American Home Shield has been good. We've had them for a while, and we've never had a problem with them. Their customer service is great. The only thing that I have an issue with is when they go up on their rate, they don't give any warning. We started out at 53 then it went to 73, and now it's 93. They should give me the option to say yes or no, if I wanna keep the policy. I don't like that they go up on their rates and they don't inform people ahead of time. Other than that, everything is great. The claims process is so easy because I can get online and put it in and they send people out. The technicians have been really good and professional, and I've never had a problem with any of them as well.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

My most recent claim was a plumbing issue, and it was very easy to submit online. The service was great too. It took a few days for the repair people to get out there, but then once they got out there, they resolved the issue in less than an hour. Everything's working fine now. Having American Home Shield is a necessity. The only negative is that the monthly cost keeps increasing. It's gone up about $20 since I started.

American Home Shield is horrible. The people they work with are a mess and I can't get anyone on the phone. It's very difficult. When they were trying to fix my dishwasher, it took them six weeks. Initially, the repair people said they can't fix it and they should replace, but then something happened and they said they think they can fix it. They kept trying different things. Eventually, they fixed it, so that's good. However, they came five times, and that doesn't make sense. It's not worth it to me. I had to take a lot of time off work, and it was just for a dishwasher. At some point, they should replace it if they can't fix it.

Horrible experience with the home warranty service from AHS. I encountered a clogged sink and a non-draining garbage disposal. AHS dispatched plumbers who conveniently claimed the work wasn't covered because they couldn't access the drainage line from my finished basement. Absolute nonsense and a clear attempt to avoid accountability for their incompetence. I had to hire my own plumber who resolved the issue swiftly. Despite AHS promising a refund for the service fee, they have yet to follow through. Their lackluster customer service has left me completely dissatisfied. I'll be switching plans as soon as my contract ends.

I accidentally pressed the clean button on my oven and something was blocking me from clearing it and closing it. I couldn't do a thing with it after that. I have never used the cleaning feature on my stove so I had never touched that button before. The tech said that when the stove was installed, the latch that locks it in place was bent. So, it clicked but it wouldn't do anything. So, he adjusted it. He did it right away and now, it's fine. He did great. He was very polite and appropriate. I've had American Home Shield on three different homes. It's a good deal if you can't fix things yourself.

The dishwasher had a smell to it that we thought were wires that had been frayed. But the person who came out to look at it said he didn't find a problem although when we still wash dishes, there's still that smell. So, we're just gonna get a new dishwasher. A carpet cleaner was recommended by American Home Shield and the gentleman seems to be very professional. Hopefully, the work will be good and I will continue to work with American Home Shield. Every time I've called, I've had good service and the person I made an appointment with has always been helpful as well as the people they've sent. I would recommend AHS.

We call when submitting a claim and we always try to speak in Spanish. The reps speaking in Spanish are always available. The techs always tell you exactly what is wrong with whatever it is. The people who came a week ago were very nice and always listened to exactly what you needed to say. They were very helpful too. I like American Home Shield and I always encourage people to have them because it works so nicely for us. They are always there for us and the price has been that amount of money for a few years. I like that they haven't raised the price at all.

The Dallas office handled the assignment of the policies and they took my policy for a five-story to eliminate it without telling me. So, I was paying a five-story cost and not receiving the benefits until a couple of years later when I tried to use it, they didn't have one. And to resolve it, I had to use the Attorney General's office and file a complaint. In general, the people I talk to in American Home Shield are mostly offshore and good. It's not 5-star but they're close to getting up there. But when you deal with this Dallas office, for some reason, that's the one who screws everything up. The service people that are sent out are not the cream of the crop. But if you say you don't like them, AHS doesn't find somebody else.

American Home Shield is a waste of money and the price went up too much, which was why I canceled it. Every time you call, you can't get a person that speaks good English and the claim took a long time because they didn’t understand what I wanted. They don’t get the work order done right. My dishwasher was replaced but it was a long process because they wouldn't do certain things and had to get somebody else to do different things on it. Also, the techs didn’t offer to haul the old one away. I wouldn’t join AHS again.

American Home Shield’s reps helped me find a service provider but that was about it, and AHS has unqualified technicians. They cut a hole in my bathroom wall which wasn't necessary and it took longer than expected to complete the job. Also, I have PVC piping and they told me I had rusted out pipes. People shouldn’t get a warranty from AHS.

I submitted a claim online and American Home Shield's website was fairly well-organized. However, it's difficult when you have an ongoing claim that's not been serviced yet. Like the one that I recently had. I had to follow up with American Homes Shield on there because after a while, it would go to a status of, “The claim has been completed”, when it actually hasn't. So I had to do some negotiating with the website to find out any type of thing I had to resolve.
I had Mr. Appliance come out and they were someone who came out as a result of someone else that didn't want the claim or couldn't handle the claim. They called us a couple of times and told us what the status was with my service claim. They stayed in contact with me as much as they could until turned they my request over back to American Home Shield. So they did a fairly good job of taking care of the things that I wanted them to. Mr. Appliance was a very good contractor, but the other contractors that I had were sometimes a hit or miss.
At the moment, I have a claim for one appliance that has been pending for over six months and I still don't have it repaired properly. I had another appliance that I had the techs come out to repair and it took at least two months for them to repair it. And while they were repairing my washing machine, the light had gone out in the laundry room and I didn't know the reason why the light went out. The electric works in that room, but the light fixture does not work even though I've tried to replace the bulb. I called back the company that came out for the dryer and they said that they didn't have anything to do with my light going out, but I thought that they did. So it's going to cost me to have to make another deposit on another claim for someone to come out to repair my light fixture.

I had a claim for the washing machine and the technicians that AHS sent out were honest. They were caring and I very much appreciated that. They recommended that certain pretty major parts and some ancillary parts that supported them be replaced. They ordered them and got them in as quick as they could. Then they came in, fixed it, and everything worked great. I had one experience where there was a miscommunication between the contractor and my husband who didn't hear well, but every other one has always been top-notch. I submit my claims online and I've used AHS many times. I'm glad that I have them and it gives me peace of mind.

We had a problem with our washing machine. The technician came in and said he couldn't fix it and it had to be replaced. But they never replaced it. We also had a plumbing claim and the techs fixed our sink in our bathroom but they had to drill a hole in the wall that went to our bedroom. And they had to knock out about a 1 foot chunk of wall off our bedroom. Then, they were supposed to send someone to patch the wall and it was never done. So all these things were going on at the same time and every time somebody came, we had to pay AHS $130 for their service fee. It was getting confusing and crazy during that time. But our problem finally got resolved when I told them I would go to our attorney general in the State of Ohio. They jumped on our problem and it was fixed within 48 hours.
Recently, we had a claim for our washer and they had it replaced. Submitting the claim online was easy and the contractors were fine. It was the follow-up that was awful. When you have a question and you talk to someone from their 1-800 number, you'd be transferred to India. You'd have some foreign person on the phone and you'd be making a thousand different messages which was annoying. But we ended up getting a new washer so it was good. All in all, the AHS warranty is worth getting but they should have better customer service directly.

American Appliance Repair replaced a fuse two different times. I had to make sure they were coming because I was not sure they were getting the message from American Home Shield that they had to come out. So, I had to call them then they would contact American Home Shield and it took a little bit. But since they came out, the appliances they worked on have been working. I usually set up my claims with AHS online but I had to call them because we had serious problems with one of our appliances not working over and over. They were kind but the deal is they're supposed to replace it if there's going to be an ongoing issue, and they didn't want to do that. So, I have had this dryer worked on six times. If anyone asked me about AHS, I would tell them that they might be better off buying a new appliance instead of having a warranty.

I put in a claim to American Home Shield for my kitchen sink that stopped up. I've been assigned to a provider almost right away. So, the experience has been good. The contractor was helpful, answered questions, and gave recommendations for how to keep the problem from reoccurring. The only thing is I don't feel good that AHS went up $25. Also, the employees, sometimes, have accents and sometimes, I can't understand them. I'm a diverse person but I think in customer service, you need to have people that can be understood by the customers.

I had a faucet leak and American Home Shield sent somebody out who evaluated it, and I ended up getting another faucet for my sink in the kitchen. So, it was a good experience. I submitted the claim over the phone. The reps are great. They got somebody out quick and they took care of business. The techs were polite and nice. They came in. They were professional. They did what they had to do. They let me know that they gave me a temporary faucet to replace the one that was leaking, and they said that that wouldn't work until they were able to get a brand-new one to put up there. So, they replaced the whole thing. American Home Shield is one of the better home warranty companies.

American Home Shield's vendors do not meet up to par. Why do they keep using the same person? I've had an experience for the last couple of years with the same vendor and they keep sending these people and they need to find some new business that can fix the device, have good professional manners, and not come in the home arguing with people over the phone and different stuff. I'm a nurse practitioner and I am professional and I know that the consumer is always right. You bow down and you do what you gotta do and go out and shut up. My device is still not fixed and this has been since November of last year. I'm trying to reach them to tell them I got two parts in and one's not in. Nobody seems to know who I need to talk to.
American Home Shield has been good in some areas though. Sears is one of the main ones they need to take off their list. Sears has got a monopoly. Sears can do what they wanna do. I've been working on my ice maker since November. One guy leapt up out of here, and told me it was fixed because him and my husband had confirmation. Another left and said they were gonna come back and bring some parts. They put out the case. I was calling AHS finding out why have they closed the case. They didn't know. They gotta reach out to Sears. Sears has not given a report of what they've done, but yet they closed the case out. It's not even fixed. My ice maker still ain't fixed. It is a brand-new refrigerator that AHS purchased for me from an old one.
I have several properties under AHS. If I could find somebody right now, as frustrated as I am, I would change. You talk to people and they say they're gonna call you back in two days or in 24 hours, and you never hear from them. I spend more time on the phone trying to find a representative that will be honest with me. If you're not gonna do something, don't tell me you're gonna do it. And every time, it's been escalated. One escalation should be enough to bring a notice when you have a concern and you have a complaint. I shouldn't have to keep calling and have somebody telling me they're gonna escalate it up the ladder. Customer service does not have the authority to move and do what they need to do. It's always going somewhere. They cannot give you a true answer.
I pay for coverage automatically every month. That's why I'm frustrated. I pay for it and I want the service that I feel like I should get on a consistent basis. When someone comes and does the work, the work is fine, but the problem is getting them here and getting reliable people and people that I say "may be knowledgeable" to the nth degree about what the problem is. The coverage is good when it works. AHS has done good work when they get good workers in here.

I like that there's protection with American Home Shield. But I don't like that a lot of their contractors don't try to accommodate you. They will take American Home Shield customers only during a certain window because you are a part of that program seemingly. A lot of times, I've had to call. It's hard to switch contractors with American Home Shield because you have to go through American Home Shield and there's this lengthy process with their customer service. Sometimes I don't like their representatives. They seem to work at home and they don't know what's going on sometimes. But once you don't have to deal with customer service, it's okay and it also depends on the contractor that you get.
I had PHD Plumbing come out and they were pretty good. They will give you good customer service. They call you right back. You don't have to wait for them to get to you. They stand by their word. But I had to fight to get switched to them. So I have no issues with PHD Plumbing. It's just that when they had to tear out the wall, I had to go through someone else and it took him a long time to get back to me.

American Home Shield has gotten better over the last couple of years. It used to take forever to get someone on the telephone and talk to them. They seem to be more responsive now than they used to be. We recently had a plumbing leak in a rental property that my brother and I own, and we asked AHS to send the plumber out to find out what the problem was. However, they didn't do a good job. The guy AHS sent couldn't find the problem and went away. He came back later and looked for it again, but couldn't find it. We just gave up. My brother and I called the plumber that we used in the past that AHS doesn't use. He came in, found the problem, and solved it in half an hour. So, I wound up paying AHS $200, got nothing out of it, and I still have to pay the other plumber’s bill.

We've had a couple of things happen since we moved into this new house and the only complaint is that sometimes there wasn't good communication. American Home Shield’s subcontractors would tell me they had ordered a part or checking on a part and I'd have to call three times to make sure that went through. It would just sit there and nothing would happen unless I called. But once I called, they were out here. They did a good job doing what they needed to do.
We're not finished yet with my air conditioning unit because it's the type of unit that will work in the winter with heat without doing the modification we needed to do. I asked them to just put it off until the spring. So, in a short while, I'm gonna call the subcontractor and get him out here to finish that. They have been doing a good job. But they are slow sometimes and let things sit. It took me 12 weeks to get my refrigerator for them to decide that they couldn't fix my old one. My mother-in-law and father-in-law live here and that bathroom is the one that they use every day so while they were out of town, I wanted to get those things fixed. I put in the claim with American Home Shield because faucets were supposed to be covered. They set up for a plumber from Hi-Tech Plumbing to come out and take a look at the faucets. But the day before he came out, I had spent a little over $300 and had my carpet shampooed. When he came out, I told him I just had the carpet shampooed so they were still a little damp and I needed him to put some booties on. He went back out to his truck and put the booties on outside in the street and then walks up to the house so they were dirty. He said they were fine and I wasn't gonna argue with him.
We showed him what was wrong and he said it was all normal. We have three full bathrooms and all the faucets for the showers and the sinks are all exactly the same. It was not normal. It was not how any of the other faucets work. He said it was because the bathroom is not used all the same as. This bathroom gets used every day, multiple times a day. So he said he'd look. Then, he said to my husband that he replaced something inside the shower faucet and on the other one, he had to put in a request to see if it would be covered.
American Home Shield called and said it wasn't covered because it was due to a build-up of calcium. The faucets are just on/off valves. Water doesn't flow through them. It's either stopped or started because of them. But the water flows through the faucet part so I don't understand how calcium would get built up. Also, the plumber used a pair of pliers on the hot water handle for the sink faucet and gouged the faucet all the way around the outer ring of it. I asked who was gonna pay for that and they told me I would have to contact the plumber. I called him and left three messages but never got a call back. I called American Home Shield and got his email address. I sent him an email and never got a response. I've used American Home Shield for several repairs around my house -- my washing machine, my dryer, my dishwasher, my garbage disposal, and send out the nicest people. They're always so accommodating and nice so it was kind of shocking that this man was so rude.

The tech that came was polite, clean, and efficient and job was done really quick. He knew what the issue was right away. It took about a week for the part to come in and he came as soon as we called him when the part came in and finished it the next day. Also, my wife really liked him and the way he approached her. He was real professional.

I had a very good outcome with American Home Shield. Over the years I've had them, I've had good luck with them. And because the companies that come out that repair things, I could at least have some kind of fallback on it. Two months ago I had a fire from my hot water heater wire thing, and the wire was all fired up in there, and the hot water heater went. The contractor came and fixed it. I had to pay a double fee because it was the water heater and the electrical that burned. The electrical burn went further than the little box that runs the hot water heater. So, what it did was burn something out of my main electric box. That's why I had to get the electrician and he had to take that and buy the electrical box. The companies that came out and repaired it were very good and timely to my needs. So, it was very good.
The contractors came when I asked them to because I couldn't take off of work anymore. They came the day I asked, and they fixed it the same day that they were here both times. Because I had already taken off because I didn't know what the issue was at first, and when I had them replaced and knew the problem, they came when I had off of work.

I had them come out for my plumbing for my water line to my fridge and it worked out okay. I was gonna do it myself but I would have had to have more plumbing tools to do what they did. The tech was knowledgeable and knew what he was doing. Every single call to AHS resulted in pretty much a quick fix, except for when I had a compressor on my AC going out. That time, they didn't have the compressor and it was the middle of the summer in New Jersey. I didn't enjoy sweating out the day because I've got two cats and I had to wait three weeks. Also, almost every single time I have renewed over the phone, my order is not correct. The last time, I asked the rep if that would be it if I send a one-time payment and they said yes. But then I get the bill and then a second bill. They should be able to stand by their employee, right or wrong.

Some things American Home Shield cover and some they don't. And what I don't like about them, I spend money for them, and certain things that I wanted repaired, "Oh, no, we don't cover that. We don't cover this. We don't cover that." I have something done with my water. So, I had somebody come out, they put a riser, put a couple of parts on the hot water heater. That didn't solve the problem, but I paid a deductible and I still have the same problem. And they would probably come up and say that, "We don't cover that." Why do they charge me for other stuff?
I'm upset with a couple of claims with them. I don't like it. When I submit the claim, I would explain to them my problem and they said, "Okay." They asked me for my deposit. I would give that to them and they would say, "We're gonna send someone out to repair your problem." And when the company would get out here to repair my problem, they would say, "They don't cover this. They don't cover that." Because they went outside, they went where they thought that problem was, and I still had a problem and I paid my money. I paid $180-some to replace for a part that they didn't cover and I still have the same problem. Also, the contractors are nice and do what they can. But the reps weren't able to answer a lot of my questions because I couldn't understand what they were saying because of the broken English.

The refrigerator quit so I called American Home Shield and they sent out a technician who replaced the motherboard. That didn't affect it and he told AHS they need to send out a qualified technician for a GE refrigerator. AHS scheduled that out with Sears. I asked the first tech when he left if I could unplug it because it was still drawing power and he said yes so I did. Then when the Sears guy was coming out, he said to plug it in the night before, which I did. When he showed up, it was working and within three hours of him leaving, it quit working again.
I called AHS and they rescheduled them out. This time, I just left it plugged in because I wasn't gonna go through this again. When he came back out, he wasn't here 10 minutes and said the compressor was bad. He left and ordered a compressor, filter, and fill valve. I called and did what I was supposed to do to let them know all the parts were here. But the next appointment got canceled because, apparently, they didn't know the fill valve was here. Then, they didn't even show up for the next appointment. I made sure that me or my wife was home all day and I got no call to cancel it or anything. I got a phone call saying they were canceled because all the parts weren't there and I called and said all the parts were here. The tech showed up but his vacuum pump went bad so he could not suck out the coolant and replace the compressor so I had to reschedule it again.
When that time came, they called and said they were overbooked. They were gonna reschedule me. I told them that unless they're rescheduling me early, I need to talk to a manager because it had been going on for almost three months. They rescheduled me for Friday instead of Saturday and the technician showed up and changed the compressor. The technician did a very good job and it's been working great since but the whole process was over three months long. I'm not happy about how long it took by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't hold that against AHS because it wasn't them. Just before the last appointment, they offered to get a different technician but I said that would just cause more trouble. It all worked out and it's nice to know that if I have a major appliance go down, I can call AHS and they'll get a qualified tech out here and get it fixed.

When it comes to minor stuff, American Home Shield is good. As far as fixing the dryer, washer, dishwasher, stove problem, no problem. They have saved me some money on those. But when it comes to major things, like HVAC, heating, cooling, air conditioning system, they would find a way not to take responsibility, even though as they advertise that they do this, they do that. I had that experience with them.
The reps are very polite. But there are times that I had difficulty understanding them. And sometimes I get upset because I would call at 9 o'clock in the morning, they would connect me to the other side of the world, and I would be like, "Why? Don't they have representatives here?" Sometimes I would have a hard time understanding the accent. I have an accent. I'm not perfect. I'm not even from this country. But as somebody who works for the company, you would want somebody standing the other line that you would understand what they're saying. There were times that we paid 100 bucks and nothing got done. And there were times that we saved money. I had an issue with the washer. The contractor came in and they fixed it. I paid 100 bucks and they fixed it. Where if we didn't have AHS, it would have cost me 400 bucks.

But I called last summer about my air conditioner. It would be blowing out cold air and then the next day, it would stop. It was so inconsistent in the summertime and it was miserable. I paid the $75 for the guys to come out and look at it but they never came. Summer is around the corner and I'm gonna have this issue again. They refunded me some of my money but there's still an issue and a problem at hand that needs to be addressed. It doesn't make me feel safe to pay the warranty price. I'm paying monthly for this for them not to come check my air conditioner. I tried to contact the contractor and I will contact American Home Shield again. My payment for my warranty is on auto pay so get their money on time every month. I expect the same type of service back. I'm just ready to go with another warranty company at this point.

We've been happy with American Home Shield. These last issues we had, they got Lowe's to do something. But Lowe's farmed it out to somebody else. And there were some problems. Since we live in Pennsylvania and the place that we have through AHS is in Maryland, it's a little rough. But that's not their fault. Maybe they don't have a lot of technicians in the same area, because the one time, they would send somebody and said they didn't have anybody. And I had paid them $100. They said I needed to find a local person. After I paid this individual $125, AHS sent Sears out. And Sears is always there, so they would have had them. They should have paid me back $100. But I never heard anything more. They could have reimbursed me the $125. That was an incident I wasn't happy about. Other than that, I like them.

I strongly advise against using AHS for your home warranty needs. In my experience, their services are unreliable and their communication is ineffective. Whenever I have had to call their call centers, I have been routed to foreign countries and no one ever follows up within a reasonable time frame. Even more concerning is the fact that AHS makes it difficult for contractors to accurately describe the problem that needs work. By limiting their options, AHS can declare most, if not all, of the work as not covered in the plan. In my opinion, this is nothing short of a scam. Save yourself the headache and choose a different provider for your home warranty needs.

They need to have an American call center, that would help. They also don't really offer a lot of vendors to choose from. It also takes too long to get replacement parts. And they keep using the same thing with COVID. COVID is in the past. It just doesn't work well. They also keep charging more and more. They're overly expensive. $127 a month and then $100 to come out. That's crazy. I can get cheaper on the outside.

I have a good experience always when I submit claims with AHS online. It's very simple. I call them on a yearly basis when they raise my fee and they usually are able to accommodate me. They have a hike every year and I'm on a fixed income. I try to get the best deal I can. Over the years, my payment has grown a little bit, but also my deductible has risen. I only ever had an issue with one contractor who was very grumpy and rude. He was a refrigerator repair guy for my ice maker. But I've had plenty of other positive experiences. For my disposal in the sink claim, they called me on Sunday and scheduled it for Monday. They were there within 24 hours and it was a great deal. I had a three-fourth horsepower and when he went to get it, he couldn't find half horsepower. So I got upgraded to a whole horsepower. That was nice. I have the Ferrari now.

My experience with AHS is okay. However, I would like to be able to better pick my own vendor. I wish they had that as an option ‘cause some of the vendors are not as good. We had a few issues with our gas and electric furnace. The initial Climate Masters they kept assigning, the guy was terrible. He was gimmicky, doing short-term solutions to things and not permanent solutions.
The claim was for a furnace issue downstairs in our basement. One time, our bill was $750. We could have gotten a better vendor. I would have preferred for the bigger systems like that to use a vendor familiar with the system, because the vendors they provide may not know the system. So, often I go outside of their network and hire my own person anyway. And it doesn't encourage me to continue it if I have to do that. I'd like to have the option, even if it means the premium is more, to pick my own vendor.
AHS is a pretty good deal. However, they should focus a little more on reviewing the policy that is purchased with the person when they first purchase it. We thought we had every system in the house covered. And the way the language read, made it sound like any issues to the water pump which you have for wells would be covered, ‘cause it said it may be covered. Then we found out it wasn't. I had to pay over $2,000 to get that repair because it wasn't covered. I was told, “You had to add that as a rider.” Nobody explained that to me when I purchased the policy. They should give the owners the ability to purchase riders right from the beginning and for people to tell them, “These are the riders available for you to purchase as an add-on.” They should have better protocols in their training for their sales area.

I had two different friends who are unrelated to each other, and they both had told me what a great experience they had with AHS, and I said, "Okay. I'll go ahead and sign up." I have not had any problems in my house in the last 10 years besides my water heater. So, I signed up for American Home Shield and it was six weeks afterward, my sump pump went out in my crawlspace because of all of our flooding. I called AHS and they had a new sump pump in there the next morning. It was that quick and easy. $125 deductible and they handled everything.
The technician came out that same day, he crawled down in the crawlspace, and I could still talk to him down there and he said, "Yeah, the pump is gone." He crawled out and said, "I've already called over to have a pump ready. It's already there at Wilkof for me to pick up. I just have to wait for approval from American Home Shield." He said, "I've already submitted the request." He did that while he was in the crawl space. He said, "When I get out to the truck, I'll finish sending that over. And they should approve it quickly." And he came out the next morning and installed that sump pump. The technician and the receptionist I spoke to at Summit were super friendly. AHS is great too. I'm shocked that they can stay in business providing this much customer service.

My last experience was with American Home Shield was awful. Sears didn't show up the one day we took off from work. The second day we took off from work, they showed up and didn't have hoses coming to repair a dishwasher. So, we took off the second day of work. Then the third day of work we took off, nobody came and they said it was because we didn't call them and let them know the parts came to our house. My husband ended up fixing it himself, but we paid American Home Shield the $150 co-pay, and we pay every month. It was infuriating. We were without a dishwasher but the bigger thing was we had taken off three separate Tuesdays.
AHS told me they were gonna refund me the $150 fee to come to the house that day and they never did. I'm fine with the pay if they would fix the appliances and do their job. Unfortunately, a lot of times when I call and speak to them, they can't even understand me. When American Home Shield does something, it's good. It gets done and it's nice, and we really appreciate some of the things they've done, but they can drag their feet at times as well. They don't take the effort to make sure something gets done. They put it on us to contact the person or figure it out ourselves occasionally. Some months back, our dishwasher broke down. We had to get it replaced, and when they dropped it off, they didn't realize until they got it out that there was some kind of attachment that needed to be added on. They did have some people drop it off, and then those people showed up, and then they said, “Oh, well, we can't do it today.” They left it there in our garage and we had to get somebody else on our own time. They did pay for that expense, so that's good, but it's like they didn't plan it out very well.
We've used AHS several times. Our air conditioning unit and our washing machine were fixed. Our washing machine is the worst one where they had us pick out the washing machine. They said, “Okay. Pick one out.” After they removed it, they said, “Oh, yeah. Actually there's a different hook-up here, which we wouldn't have known until basically we took it apart.” So then our washing machine sat down there, and it took almost a month and a half to finally get it resolved. It was not great. My wife made a couple trips to her mom's house to do laundry. It took way too long, and I felt like we were the ones reaching out to them. Overall, they have come through and they have paid us. They’re not an awful company, but I have had times that they have very much frustrated me.

I needed to have my ceiling fan and my air duct fixed. I called AHS and talked to someone who was very friendly. The company they assigned my claim to sent me emails and texts. Then, when I called them, I finally got ahold of someone. I had stuff replaced once before through AHS and when I talked to the contractor, they were super nice and very talkative. They also walked me through everything that was going to happen. But these people that I recently got, not so much. Even when I tried to explain to them that my contract states that certain things are supposed to be replaced with something equal of value, they said no and they put something up there. I should have called AHS, but I didn't because I was just happy that the fan was being fixed. But then it wasn't fixed and the company had to keep coming back out and fixing it. After the 30 days, the brand-new fan that they put up stopped working.
So I called American Home Shield because I didn't think I should have to pay another $100 deductible for the same product that wasn't even really the same quality with what I had. Then I find out they didn't even called AHS to get the verification, because I was supposed to get the option of either buyout or replacement. At first, AHS said that I had to pay the deductible again and that that was their company's policy.
Then they sent me to their escalation department and their escalation department gentleman said that he understood 100%. He said that if my claim went to the same company, they'd waive the $100 because I was right. I shouldn't have to pay that again, especially if it was the same company that came out to me. And it was the same company. So I didn't have to pay it. But so far, I'm still having problems with the fan and I don't want to have to keep calling. I also keep having problems with the bathroom vent and I don't think that that company that AHS sent out did what they were supposed to do.
I've been with AHS for a long time and I've never really had a problem with them. I enjoyed the company that they had that did the central air unit. He was super friendly and pretty fast. It was just the guy that was doing the vent and the fan. AHS also sent out another tech this time around because they said I didn't have to request the same guy that came out. And this time around, the gentleman who came out seemed to do a decent job.

We had a heat pump system go out and we made a claim with AHS. But the tradespeople that they had on their list was someone we've used in the past and have had a horrendous experience with. They were slow to find me another company and I spent two weeks to get a technician out there for my tenants. Then, prior to them fixing the issue, I called and requested service but they didn't get back to me. It was during a cold spell, so out of my own pocket, I had to pay somebody to go and do the repairs. But then the system failed again. So, I had to call American Home Shield because I didn't want to pay another $500 for another company. But it was difficult. They didn't have a sense of urgency at all and their people on the other end were very difficult to understand. They do not speak good English at all and had a heavy accent.
I've also done the claims process online, but I still didn't get the kind of response that I needed. We're pretty unhappy with American Home Shield and we've been thinking about changing companies. I wish that they cared more for quality of work than cutting corners and getting the cheapest technicians possible. If they paid better and they got better companies to do their work, the service would be much better. Also, they collected $100 from me for the service and I canceled it, but I never got credited for that.

American Home Shield offered a free AC tune-up and I had them come out to a rental home to do that. But their tune-up person who was doing it for free came back with $5,000 worth of repairs that needed to be done that were not covered. They were saying that it needed a capacitator and it needed Freon. And 95 percent of the $5,000 was for modifications he needed to make the supposed corrections. I was offended and I knew it was a scam. So I had someone else come out and look. They said I didn't need to make any modifications and I didn't need any Freon. All I needed was the capacitor. So, we had that done.
But the intent was get this free evaluation and whatever company American Home Shield is buttoned up with was just going to make a big payday on people. I also interacted with American Home Shield's reps over the phone and I talked to someone offshore. They were always very friendly but they never knew anything and they always said they were sorry. When the tech came by, he looked at it and he said he'd have to check whether the repair was covered by American Home Shield or not. So, he called somebody at American Home Shield, then he told me that everything was covered. I paid $100 for him to come over and that was the only money that I paid to American Home Shield. Since the repair, the garage door has been working fine. With AHS, I don't have to worry about a big expense out of pocket, but sometimes the problem may be a small thing and $100 is too much. Despite that, it's a great insurance to have and if you have a lot of appliances in your house, I would recommend it.

American Home Shield is usually able to send out a tech soon, within a day or two of me calling. They have a good team of reliable service techs. However, when our furnace stopped working, we had to wait three days for a tech to come out because it had to be an American Home Shield tech. But once they were here, they were very fast. American Home Shield replaced the unit and it cost us so much less than it would have without them.

I have an outside refrigerator in the garage that stopped working. And with the plan I had, I know that if American Home Shield couldn't fix it, they will replace it. What happened was before they opted to replace it, they tried to fix it. Then they gave me a whole new compressor, which runs about $3,200. It took about three weeks to get everything done, but it was worth it because it only cost me $75. So, it was excellent. The person who came out was good, pleasant, helpful, and informative. The only thing is my price went up, probably due to inflation, from 75 to 100.

My ice maker went out a couple of days ago. The motor went out and a tech came and replaced it right away because he had one in his truck. He knew right away what was wrong with it. He knew what I was talking about. So, he was well aware of the situation instead of just standing there not knowing. He was professional. I've also used the warranty before for the air conditioner. I needed it cleaned. Overall, the techs have all been nice. They come when they're supposed to, they fix the issue, then they're on their way. Everything with American Home Shield has been really good. I've never had any issues with them.

The first 10 years with AHS were great. However, in the last six years, I've had a horrible experience with them on my air conditioning unit. I've had numerous service calls and there were three occasions where the same gentleman came out. He recommended that we could install a new air conditioner because mine was 35 years old. One of the main reasons why I had gotten AHS was for that particular potential problem that I could have with my air conditioner being so old. I kept on asking about it, and AHS was saying that they didn't get a notification from the people who they sent. My air conditioner was going to cost a huge amount of money and they weren't covering a huge deal of it. I kept on fighting back. I had air, but it was very weak. I don't think I was able to get my house down to 80. It was during the peak summer hours. We had to end up buying a humidifier and a window air conditioning unit.
I was counting on AHS but I had to pull money out of my own pocket to get a brand-new air conditioner. My air conditioning unit had cost me so much. The whole time that I've been with AHS that I've had to have my air conditioning repaired, it was $3,000 that I've had to put in for it and I still spent money to buy a new air conditioner. I was very tempted to discontinue AHS because of that horrible experience and the lack of promise on their behalf. But my wife convinced me to hold on to it for another year. The only reason I'm holding on to it is in case anything with my plumbing goes wrong because we've had a couple little issues here and there. We've had a leak from the sink then we had another leak two months ago. I could have replaced it, but I had AHS. They replaced a flex pipe to my faucet.
I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience.

Up until this past time, American Home Shield was amazing. They send somebody out right away and they usually get the problem solved. Even though there have been issues with the heating and air guy that they sent out, they got that resolved after a year. But this last time was a nightmare. American Home Shield showed that they didn't care anything about me. The door on our washing machine was not closing correctly. We called, paid the $100 deductible, and they sent the man out within a day which was very much acceptable. When the guy got here, he indicated that the boot on the washing machine needed to be replaced. I'm not a washing machine guy so we went by what he suggested that it needed to be replaced.
American Home Shield agreed to repair the washing machine. The first time when he came out and replaced the door, he didn't plug the washing machine back up. He left it upon my 70-year-old disabled wife to climb on top of the washing machine to plug it back in. I contacted him and suggested that he come back out and connect it, but he wouldn't do it. A few days went by and the same guy came out and repaired the door, but he didn't replace the boot. I contacted him directly. He told us that if we wanted him to come back out to put the boot on, he was gonna charge us $300.
I contacted American Home Shield multiple times. Rarely do you get someone in the US so it's difficult to understand the reps. There's a language barrier. The representative told me that there was nothing wrong with the washing machine. I asked to speak to somebody else. He told me there was nobody else I could speak to. I said, "Put me in touch with somebody about canceling my contract." He got me in touch with a nice lady, and I told her what was going on. She wanted to try to get it resolved before we canceled the contract. Apparently, she contacted the guy who repaired the washing machine and he made it sound like we were the ones pushing for this extra work to be done. The guy not only lied to me but he also lied to American Home Shield. He tried to make it sound like it was my fault. I wouldn't have known the boot needed to be replaced had he not said that.
I told the rep, "If we can't resolve this, I wanna cancel it." She said, "We gotta go by what he says." I said, "We're on the same page. I want you to go by what he said. He said it needed to be replaced." She said, "Now, he's saying it doesn't." I said, "Let's just cancel the contract." She offered me no deductible on the next service. I said, "No. I want this resolved or I'm gonna cancel." She was very kind and we canceled. But she wanted to charge me for canceling. I said, "You're gonna charge me for your contractor not doing what he's supposed to do?"
I get a text message or email from American Home Shield three times a week wanting me to reconsider. The only way I will reconsider is if they send another appliance repair guy out here and replace that boot. If American Home Shield can stay away from Neff Appliance, they and future customers would benefit from that. I wouldn't recommend that contractor to anybody. He's a one-man operation 'cause we asked for a different person to come out and he's it.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

We've had American Home Shield for a long time and I have recommended them to people. I've used them a few times and not had any issues. I've had contractors come for a clothes washer and three times for the refrigerator. American Home Shield is usually available to send someone the next day. I don't always have flexibility when I can have them come, but it’s usually quick.
A contractor came for the refrigerator that had ice collecting in the bottom of it. The guy seemed to do a thorough job and cleaned up after himself. However, it was weird was that they wanted me to sign a claim that there would be no liability if the repair didn't work and I lost food in the fridge. He said, “If you don't wanna sign it, I'll leave and you can call somebody else.” They fixed it at least for now. The model I have is the problem. It was part of a class action lawsuit a few years ago so I wouldn't be surprised if there's another problem with it. The only thing I don't like is that if my refrigerator goes out, I don't wanna wait forever for someone to figure out if I need a new one.

American Home Shield was excellent last year. They've improved since the previous year. My refrigerator died last summer. They sent one guy out that couldn't fix it, but they got another guy right out the next day to fix it. I just had to wait five days because it took time to get it all done. It went out on a weekend which was the downside. I had to wait two days. Otherwise, it would have been faster. But it was done very well and I was very happy.

American Home Shield replaced my swimming pool pump filter. It was a huge, old style sand filter. They upgraded it and put all the plumbing in that was necessary and took care of the problem. That would have cost me about 5,000 bucks. They've also done a lot to help me with my air conditioning unit. It was lacking a part and the part had to be ordered. They had to put a urgent response on that.
Whenever I have a complaint, I call in and they make an appointment for me. If they can't answer my question, they get the answer and call me back. The office is not in the United States because the people have an accent when they talk to me. However, they've been very courteous and rapid in response to getting me any assistance that I need. They're not familiar with the geographical location so sometimes, they send people from Chandler, which is quite a ways away from where I live in Glendale. But every contractor that I've received has been a local person. They've been very professional and courteous.
If something hasn't worked, I call again and American Home Shield sends somebody else out. That contractor has to make good on the work and I don't have to repay. I'm elderly. Sometimes, if I go through a contractor that is not associated with American Home Shield, I feel I'm being cheated. However, when I work through American Home Shield, it's the best experience. Save yourself a lot of headaches and get American Home Shield. I feel more secure and safe by having this added assistance. I'm paying for it but just one replacement is worth the yearly amount. The yearly amount doesn't add up to not even 20% of what I pay.

American Home Shield sent out someone for my refrigerator and they deemed it unfixable. It was covered for $2,000, but they wanted to give me $1,300. They said I had to pay for the man coming out and for the part of the refrigerator. I declined their offer and obtained a lawyer to fight it. They sent another letter for the same amount. My lawyer declined that too and I haven't heard from them since. Their customer service was nice but they've changed. You can't get in touch with anybody that's relevant. You call and get a person that pass you to the next person that pass you to the next person. You never could get to anybody to explain your problem. You just go around on this merry-go-round. American Home Shield changed the policy unbeknown to me. They said they sent me an email but I don't have the email. It used to be a $3,000 coverage and I didn't have to pay anything. They've fixed my stovetop, and I didn't have to pay them anything except for the service call. It was unrepairable and they replaced it at no charge.

They replaced the thermostat and it started working. The service was very quick. Overall, I'm very much satisfied with them. When something wrong happens at home, I don't have to shop around and second-guess someone because I'm hoping that American Home Shield is sending the right people who are diagnosing the right problems with the right fixes. Even though it costs me $125 every time, knowing that that is the maximum that I pay for that problem gives me a lot of peace of mind. It's worth it to pay a monthly fee to the warranty program.

It's very good knowing that I can reach out to American Home Shield whenever I want which was one of the problems I had with my previous provider. You call them and be on hold on the phone for four hours. With American Home Shield, within a couple of minutes, I'm on the phone with somebody and whoever picks up the phone doesn't just pass you around to different departments. They listen to you and try to help you.
Recently, I had my water heater go out. At the time, I had an open claim for my roof that I was still dealing with them. Every time I was calling, the system kept talking about that claim, so I reached out to them online. They sent Cal-Home within 24 hours. They figured out that the heater was bad and told me someone was gonna get in touch with me. Someone from American Home Shield called me and told me I had to pay $700 out of pocket for the repair. They don't repair cables, which is weird. The worker came the next day, I gave him the money, and he fixed it.
When I started my policy with American Home Shield, I wanted the top coverage and that was what I got. If I have the top coverage why am I having to come out of pocket $700 for something as little as a water heater. With my previous provider, I didn't have to do that. If there's something wrong, as long as you pay your monthly payment, they come out. You pay the come-out fee and they fix it. They don't tell you to pay a portion. For that reason, I've been rethinking.

This is a review against NOVA LLC air conditioning business. A technician arrived at my home due to a HVAC issue on behalf of American Home Shield. They came out and reported that the motor was making a very loading noise and needs replacing after 7 years. We waited for 3 weeks for the part to arrive and ran out of patience so we cancelled the part and requested a cash out so the monies can be used towards another contractor. NOVA also tried to upcharge us 500.00 above the AHS deductible- crooks! Now since AHS declined the pay out - NOVA is now claiming that the defective HVAC is okay with just a small noise. I will NEVER deal with the lying NOVA or AHS again. So disappointed in Maryland.

I've been using AHS for a couple of years now on both of my homes and I'm a happy customer. I like their service, their website, and how straightforward it is to book a service when I need it. Also, they're very quick to respond, quick to assign a contractor, and the quality of contractors is really good. My most recent claim was when the generator broke down. The contractor came in and fixed it. The second time they came in, they replaced it with a brand-new unit. It took three days from the day I opened up the ticket to the contractor coming in and getting the item fixed. It's a convenient service, which helps me get things fixed and limit any potential financial impact from things breaking down, and I would recommend it to anybody who owns a home.

I love American Home Shield. I use them exclusively for my rental property as well as my primary home and I have four different contracts with them. I use their website exclusively to file claims and I love the website. It has a drop down box for the four different addresses that I use and it's pretty straightforward. Then, get an email saying that a technician has been assigned and depending on the time of day, if it's after 5 p.m., nobody's gonna answer but the notification goes to the technician. The next day, the technician either calls me or I call them. But this city is a relatively small city and I've yet to know if there's a backup technician to any other categories. If a plumber cannot get here because they're inundated with work, I don't know if there's a second plumber that would come into play, like a second tier person. It seems to be the same people and I was just wondering. In the summer, the ac technicians are gonna get inundated with work and it might be, “We're gonna get there when we get there.” Other than that, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

My experience is good as long as they allow me to pick the people to work on my house. I want to do business with local vendors and not somebody coming out of Houston. I'm very adamant on that. But I know how to work around little things to get the one that I want who I know is going to do the job in my opinion correctly. If the vendor is not available, I just call the vendor and they say they are available and AHS just doesn't wanna send them the business.
My most recent claim was when I had a leaking wax seal on my toilet. Will from Action Plumbing came out and did a good job. He was very personable and he's local. But the biggest problem was the air conditioning. It went down in the middle of the summertime and the contractor did patch work, unfortunately, because that was what AHS wanted them to do. The outside unit needed to be replaced and they put everything on it, but the outside coils, which they didn't want to put on. They were afraid AHS would reject the claim because the unit was so old that they might break the veins. I didn't wanna go through another summer and run the risk of burning up. I just replaced the air conditioning system and I'm blessed I could afford it. The only reason I'm keeping AHS now is I have about three or four older appliances and they gave me enough incentives to stay with them. It's good service overall.

The dishwasher was humming and smoking. No water was getting to it and I was smelling burnt rubber-like. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and there was some miscommunication with the contractor and my information. What I put into the database for the initial appointment was not conveyed to the contracting office. I never heard from anyone and I took off from work. I was home waiting. When I didn't get the call, I called to find out when the person was coming and that's when the lady explained to me that, unfortunately, they had been trying to contact me, which I found hard to believe, and said that because they had never spoken to me or gotten any information from the warranty company, they didn't know the make and model of my appliances. Nobody would be coming out and I found that out the morning of.
I gave her the make and model and that was when they rescheduled me. They knew what I was working with and I knew who I was to expect to come out here. The tech came out two weeks later and when he did, somebody had apparently unplugged the dishwasher from under the sink, which was why the water wasn't getting to it, and the humming was because it was trying to siphon water that wasn't coming through the pipeline like it was supposed to. Once he did that and cleaned out the reservoir, he cleaned the dishwasher and cycled the whole cycle for me. It worked with no problem and it's been working since. Also, the tech was really nice and personable. He talked through the whole thing to ensure I understood what he was doing and why he was doing what he was doing.
I have recommended American Home Shield to other people. Prior to this, I had them in a previous home and when I purchased this home, the people who I purchased from bought me a contract through a different company. I waited for that one to expire and then I crossed back over as a repeat customer to American Home Shield because I like the services better.

Recently, my thermostat wasn't working. I did the claim online, and it was easy to submit. Sometimes I still have to call or update it because there's not always an exact selection for what the problem, so I either try to add notes or I call. My interactions with the reps have usually been favorable, but there were a couple of times wherein I don't feel they really understood my problem and had a bit of a language barrier, so I had to get someone else. It's been a lot of years though, and outside of that, usually, I was able to get it to resolve whatever my issues were. I like the contractors. In fact, the last few ones I've had, I've liked lots of them. I requested them if it was a similar issue or the same type of product I was having a problem with.
The contractor that came for my thermostat was good. They came back because I had an issue while they were there prior to that. They were leaving and said, "Wait a minute. Let's wait a few more minutes," and the issue wasn't totally resolved. The unit needed another part. They took care of that and that's why I made sure that the next time I had an issue I asked for that same contractor. Having American Home Shield is helpful, but sometimes people have to go through the motions a couple of times depending on what the issue is, like when I had an issue with my AC unit. He was so open to answer my questions as well as so relaxed. He didn't make me feel like I was bothering him at all. The gentleman fixed the problem. However, something else happened to my water heater and he ended up coming back out and fixing some part of it. It works like a charm now. I've had hot water ever since.

I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. I used them a bit last year too on several of my rental houses and everything has worked good so far. My recent claim was a refrigerator which was not cooling efficiently in the bottom part of the fridge. Once I logged in, I filed a report. American Home Shield responded quickly with the response email, and even estimating the day and the time the technician might contact me. They had to delay that slightly. But it worked out good. They responded within three days.
I was there when the tech repaired the refrigerator. Everything went smoothly. He identified the bottom part of the refrigerator door was not closing properly. There is a possible need for a return call. I've got to determine that. My renter reported to me on email today that the refrigerator was only in the 40s on the bottom and maybe it wasn't cooling up.
When the technician adjusted the door, it was in the 30s, which is proper. I told my renter to check the door and see if the bottom left part was closed all the way, that the technician had adjusted all that and everything was worked good when he left. That was a week ago. So, I'm waiting for her to report if it has gone back to a normal temperature. If it hasn't, I would have to have him or another one come out. But I'm not gonna file that until I find out for sure.

My most recent claim would have been with my AC system. American Home Shield took my claim. They filed it. I also used them for plumbing. But I wasn't satisfied with the vendor that they sent out because they pulled my leg and were deceptive about what the issue was after I knew exactly what it was. I didn't know exactly, but I knew it wasn't what they told me.
AHS sent out a second vendor who tried the same thing. I didn't end up getting the plumbing fixed because both plumbers knew that if it was the faucet issue, that AHS wouldn't have replaced the faucet. I had done that already. And when they came, I told them that was a brand-new faucet. But they still tried to tell me that it was the faucet that was the problem. Because they knew AHS wouldn't replace the faucet, and one tried to charge me over $600 to give me a new faucet after I told them that that one was brand new yet they still claimed that the faucet was clogged, which I knew it wasn't. I'm gonna stop using AHS after I sell my house.

AHS sent somebody to inspect the water heater. We didn't hear from either AHS or that guy. That guy did not report it back to AHS. It was cold and our water heater was not working, and AHS kept telling me that, “We are waiting to hear from that guy.” If he didn't report back, AHS’ clients are not responsible. So, they should have sent somebody else and taken the investigation further. Because without the water heater in the winter, how would we take a shower?
It was more than a month before I had to fight with AHS, and I just said, “Give my $125 service fee back.” I got my water heater repaired by myself. But I've been with AHS for 13 years or more. And I've hardly had four complaints in these many years. I have three homes with them. Before, it was in California, and now in Texas. So normally, I always had a good experience with them.
I got my $125 back and I called a local plumber and changed my water heater altogether. I paid it fully. But that was a horrible experience to te extent that I just decided I would discontinue with the AHS altogether for all my homes. We have four homes registered under them. But I decided to give them one more chance. And this time, my microwave spoiled a month back, and they did a good job.

American Home Shield covers more stuff than the other ones. And the price was fair. There was a leaky faucet. I thought it was one of the lines. And it happened to be the whole faucet. Submitting the claim was fast and easy. They scheduled the repair, collected the initial fee, and let me know who the plumber would be. I requested that I'd be notified before he got there so I could make sure that I or somebody could be there. And they did. They were there on time. The plumber analyzed the problem and said, "We need to order. I don't have this part with me." And in a couple of days, they guy returned and slapped it back in. Once he had the correct part, it took him 15 minutes. That was the fourth time I've had to use them because I got a couple of properties that I live in. And they've been dependable.

My experience with American Home Shield has been okay. The most recent claim was my heat that went out and I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then it went out again a few weeks later. Come to find out it was because of a coil touching a wire. Submitting the claim was very smooth. The first one was online, and the second one was over the phone. The reps were very nice and helpful. The techs were very informative and they let me know what I could do to prevent what was going on or if anything happened.

At first, American Home Shield was great but after COVID and people are not wanting to work, they're having a hard time finding vendors in our area. Submitting a claim is always easy. They have no problem with accepting a claim and taking the $110 deductible every time. The problem is getting somebody to come and do the work after they take the claim.
I put in a work order on March the 14th. It's March the 26th and I haven't heard from them. I called them and they escalated it. I'm still waiting on them to call me back. The rep told me he was gonna call me back today but he has not. On Friday, they told me to give them 48 hours, which would have been tomorrow, Tuesday. In the meantime, I still got this problem under my sink and right now, I'm not happy with American Home Shield because when something breaks in your house, you want it fixed immediately, especially when it's a leak under your sink because there’s just gonna be more damage.
Also, at the end of last year, my oven went out and it took them so long to get it fixed. The contractor never came out. And we fixed my dishwasher and the contractor said my work was warrantied but then they just gave me the runaround. I just had somebody come fix it and left it alone. But when they get somebody out here, it’s good on most cases. The one bad experience I had was with the people that installed the dishwasher. There was a time when I would recommend AHS to anyone but due to COVID and not having enough workers, there's not a lot of vendors in our city. If they would allow us to find our own vendors, we could do a better job instead of them trying to find a vendor. We could find one and send them a bill and they could reimburse us the maximum amount that they would pay for that incident.

I could hardly understand what the American Home Shield reps say because of their lack of English expertise. And they couldn't do anything even when I do. I had trouble with them in the past, trying to cancel an order. I had to call the service provider, and call AHS. I had to call the service provider back. It's horrible. They're worthless. And their automated system is just as bad.
The cost keeps going up, and that sucks. And the coverage keeps going down. They put a lot of limits that they never had before. The problem is I don't know of another home warranty company that is any better. So, there's nothing I can do. I had had AHS for 20 years now, and when they started out, they were great. I was in Texas, but I moved up here, and the contractors aren't as proficient and professional as they are in Texas. There's nobody out there any better and I know people who have different companies that are no good either.
The people, the last time, that came out to see about my heater fixed it, and I haven't had any problems since. A couple of months prior, I had a company come out that I was very happy with. Fixed it and told me that it was old and would need to be replaced quickly. And it quit working almost immediately again, and they came out and said, “You're just gonna have to work with this. We can't find anything wrong with it.”
What it did was coming on and going off before it brought the temperature up enough, and it would shut off and stay off until it got ready to come on again, which could be five minutes or an hour and a half. This was back in November when we had that cold spell. So, it finally started working again okay, and it quit. It was past the 30 days. It was two months later was when the latest people came out. And they replaced the board on it. It didn't take them two minutes to fix that, and it has been working fine since. So, it took a little work to get there, but we did.

I called American Home Shield and reported that I was leaking water from my hot water heater in the basement and felt that the water pressure was too high. Their service call fees are too high, but their customer service rep was fine. Because the hot water heater was leaking, the hot water heater shut off. So, we had no hot water. It took a couple of days to get somebody out to the house. I got impatient and I called the local water company. They came out and told me my water pressure was too high. I needed a new regulator.
I informed the plumbing company that that was what the water company said. I got impatient and I turned the pressure down on the regulator. The plumber showed up and said, "Well, I don't see a problem here, so give me my $150 and I'll be gone." I explained to him that I had made the adjustment on the regulator, but I still felt that there was a problem. I haven't called them back but the water pressure has increased by itself again. So, I know the regulator is bad. I'm not gonna pay them another $150 for them to come out and do nothing. So, I will be handling this call on my own. The people from the company who came out were polite, but they really didn't seem to care that there was a problem. In fact, they told me to go get my own water pressure gauge so I could keep an eye on it.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

My hot water heater went out. I called American Home Shield and couldn't find nobody in the area to dop anything. Kept telling me, "We're gonna send somebody." Somebody never came, and here it's going on past the month. My husband said, "I can't keep getting warm water." I can't keep getting my grand babies that go to school doing the same thing. It was mind-boggling and frustrating. So, I took it upon myself. I called them and said, "I can't keep doing this." I didn't know that I had to call them and get approval to get somebody out there to look at it. It was hard because I'm in a rural area. It's hard to get some help. I finally got a guy and he was nice. But I did not know I had to go through AHS first to get all of this stuff done.
I went to Home Depot and purchased this hot water heater. The guy took it out and installed, and sent AHS a receipt. I thought he would send it to them. But it was too late because they said I didn't go by proper channels. So I said, "That's okay. No problem. What would you do if you were in my situation? Would you keep on warming water?" You wanna get up with warm water every morning. I said, "Anyway, don't worry about it. You don't have to give me nothing. I got my heater replaced. We've got hot water, I'm fine." I was under the assumption that you just get the hot water heater and give them the receipt and you're good. But that wasn't the case. So, that didn't work.
My furnace messed up. That was another thing. AHS couldn't find anybody to do that. I just called in a week ago to cancel the thing. But the rep told me to not cancel and she would send somebody out there to check it. But she couldn't. I told them, "You're selling services that you can't render. So, I'm sick of this." I might as well just save my money and pay for my stuff out-of-pocket. Because my experiences are driving me crazy.
I had the unit replaced. I had to pay $555 difference, and the ductwork deal. I said, "Y'all and these people, you're not concerned about your customers." Because they would tell me anything. I thought she said, "I'm gonna give you the cash." I said the contractor didn't do anything. They came out here talking about they would clean my vent, clean the ductwork. And she said, "No, we don't do that." I said, "I know you don't do it because after they told me that, they gonna call back and tell me that y'all don't do it." But I could pay some extra money and they would come back and do it. She said, "What?" I said, "Yeah, that's what they told me."
I said, "Now, what does that sound like?" So, they would say one thing, but tell something different. I said, "But y'all need to check up on these people. And they got the attitude." They bought a part out here that I paid $555 that they said AHS did not cover. And they took that new part back with them. They said it wouldn't fit. They didn't try to put it in. All I knew was they took it back with them. I called AHS and the contractor. I don't know what they did about it, but I reported it. I said I was very dissatisfied. Because I know what I paid and I didn't feel I got what I paid for.
They wrote it up saying that this is what AHS wouldn't cover. And the difference I have on that unit was 555. So on the ductwork, they told me that was the vendor that would do it. And he said, "We're gonna clean your ductwork." I said, "Okay." They came out there. They went up there and looked at it. But see, I had no idea that AHS repaired the ductwork. They don't clean them. They had me on the assumption that the people that came out there clean them. That's what they told me. "We're gonna clean them." "Okay." So I didn't have any idea until AHS told me, "Ma'am, we don't clean. We don't do no cleaning. We replace." I said "What?"
But they called me back in the meantime and said, "Yeah, they don't do it but you can pay us and we'll clean it." I said, "Hell no. I'm not doing that. I'm not paying. I paid y'all 555 and I think you got over me and them. But you think you're gonna come back and go behind me, go behind them. And come back and tell me that you'll come back and clean them if I pay you X amount of dollars. I'm not paying you a damn thing. And don't you never come back to my house."
I told them, "Don't you send them back out here? But y'all need to do something. Y'all need to check up on them, because I don't know them in my place no more." That was when the lady said, "I'll get somebody out there to come back and go back through and look at it, make sure everything is fine." I said, "'Cause I don't think they did nothing to the ductwork. They went up there with some of that foam stuff. They may have sprayed some up there. I don't know, but they didn't do anything to it. And they tell y'all that the order is complete and you believe them." I said, "I'm disgusted and I don't want anything else to do with this.
I said, "I just wanna cancel and I'll just let it go. I'm good." The lady said, "Oh, no." I said, "No, it's just too much stuff going on. No, I'll just do what I gotta do." So, that's the point I was at. When she called and told me, "You have the option to take the cash out or to get another vendor to come out there and look." So, I finally got a guy to come out hereto check it, and send me the copy. But when I did that, she said it was already closed. She said they had called and told that it was complete. So, I was, "That's fine with me then. It's complete if they say they completed it."
That's when I said, "I'm out of here. If y'all gonna believe them, okay, that's fine." Because they have not done anything to say that they had completed the job. And she said that's what they said. That was when I said, "You called me. So don't call back or send me something. I'm through with it." I'm dropping AHS. I am gonna call as soon as I get home. I'm not going through that anymore.

I used American Home Shield number of times on different occasions. They're good at assigning the contractors. The most recent claim was my dishwasher. Somebody came out. They checked my dishwasher. It was not fixable. They said they were gonna replace it. So, they sent me a list of dishwashers I can select from. I selected the one I like, and they came and installed it. The first technician was not very flexible with the timing. They gave me a window to come and check my equipment. And the window time was 8 AM to 5 PM. That's not a window. That's a whole day. They can't expect me to stay home for them from 8 AM to 5 PM. Usually, there's a two-hour window or four-hour window. So, that is something I did not like. I told him, "You have to give me a small window." He said he couldn't. I said, "Well, I don't want you, then." They sent somebody else the next day from his company.
The thing with AHS is, you have to precisely tell them each and everything you wanted to be fixed. So, I thought plumbing means they will fix everything in the plumbing, but I have to be precise, like which tap, which room, or which sink. So if I tell them, "I need an electrical work done. I need light bulbs changed," I have to exactly tell them how many light bulbs, which room, and which area. They won't do anything apart from that. I think that's just their way of working but that is something I don't like it. Overall, I like AHS. It's convenient to just give them a call, and they will have somebody over our house in a day or two, and things get resolved.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

At times, American Home Shield has been good. But they also seem to work harder denying my claim than getting it fixed. I file claims by phone. I don't do it online. Could get messed up there easily. My bathtub plug, the mechanism that drains it, went bad. The bathtub is probably 30 years old. AHS sent a plumber out to look at it. They ordered the part. Didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks so I called them this morning, to see what was going on. But they sent me back emails saying that I've had to pay for the part to put it in. It would be $250.
My wife and I have been retired for several years. But the kids never lived in this house. And there was a note on there that says because of the abuse. Who would abuse on the plug to the bathtub? The bathtub is probably 40 years old. We pay $120 a month now, plus a $75 service charge. I can understand them questioning things. But if they advertise something, they should honor their contract. But my experience with my bathtub has not been good. I don't like to have to escalate things and jump through hoops because I shouldn't have to do that.
The guy that does my pool who has been here over the last six years several times is first class. Once in a while, I would get somebody who is a little hard to understand, but it's not their fault. And I work with that. I understand it's their job. The last plumber to come, young, nice guy. They were courteous. But when he sent his note back saying the part had been abused, and I read that, all that told me was they were looking for reasons not to have to fix something. That's sad. I thought about dropping AHS lately, but I'll give them one more year.

I had a claim for my oven door that was busted. The people that came to the house were fine. However, American Home Shield refused to replace the oven because they said it wasn't natural wear and tear, although it was an internal spring that caused the door to fall. However, it broke. So, the glass shattered and they refused to. It should be replaced by AHS because it's not anything that caused it to do that other than the door itself. It doesn't make sense to me. We got a second opinion. The contractor came out, said the same thing. But AHS still refused to pay. They just kept saying, "There's nothing we can do." And they wouldn't let us talk to a manager. They were very rude. So, I am quitting with AHS here very soon.

There was something wrong with the furnace. A furnace company had come in and they turned the furnace off because of safety reasons. Then, I turned to American Home Shield and they sent out a gentleman. He said the furnace had to be replaced and they would give us a deal for a furnace and air conditioner since it's also old anyway for $5,000. We decided to go ahead and take them up on that offer and AHS paid close to $1,000. They did very well.
Last year, somebody was here fixing something else and our electric company came out because we smelled gas downstairs. He found a very minor leak in our water heater so I called AHS and the tech said the area where the leak was is not fixable. They were gonna have to replace the entire unit. When he took it out and replaced it, he said he took the water heater back to his job so that he could cut it open and show everyone what a 50-year-old water heater is. But that old water heater was a gem. If there would have been a way to fix wherever that tiny little leak was coming out of, I would have had it fixed.
AHS has been great any time we've called them. My only complaint is that they source out the phone calls to outside of America and sometimes it's very hard to understand them. I'm not expecting them to sound English but they're gonna have to work on making it so people can understand those who work in the telephone call centers more.

Submitting a claim is easy but getting it resolved is another issue. I had a claim for my air conditioning system and it took almost two months to get the issue resolved. The first contractor said he couldn't change this item because it was a difficult item to change and he's too overweight and his other worker is too old. A second contractor came and he said it was easy and no big deal. Then, AHS took forever to approve it and I had to make several calls to get it done. They need to find a quicker way to get approval done when there's an item in question or when they don't wanna spend the money. What upset me the most is I pay my monthly fee to them with no issue. I don't understand why it took four weeks to get approval on an item that two air conditioning people had already said defective and needed to be changed. My washer was making a noise and the problem was very simple. A nut through normal wear and tear backed up and loosened up a pulley which was making all kinds of racket. But the tech had the part and he tightened it up and did a quick test. He was able to fix it in half an hour. I've used the contractor once for my refrigerator, once for my stand-up freezer and once from my washing machine. The technicians were extremely polite and professional. If they couldn't fix it, they told me why. They weren't trying to sell me a new refrigerator or a new washing machine. So, it was cool. The washer is working great.
The hardest part about submitting the claim to American Home Shield was trying to figure out where the make and model number was on my washer. I paid the $100 fee and that was it cost out of my pocket. Considering paying out of pocket, that would have been a $200 visit just for that person to come out and look at it. It was $100 with my freezer. I have no idea how much the part was that they needed to swap out. But there was no surprise.

My furnace broke down so American Home Shield sent a contractor out to try to repair it. They were proactive on telling me information that I didn't know to ask. They couldn't repair it, so it had to be replaced. American Home Shield paid a certain amount to get it replaced, but I had to pay for some wiring so I decided to do the upgrade to get a whole new HVAC system. With my furnace, I also got a central air conditioning unit. Part of my electricity went out in some of my rooms, including the furnace. When I called them, they were scheduled to come out right away. I called them at nighttime when I came home from work. That time they were scheduled to come out, we had electricity and the furnace started working so we canceled the appointment. They said if it happened again, to call them and they will come out.
I've been protected with American Home Shield since 2006. I cancelled my policy twice because of financial reasons but I keep signing back up with them. It's a good thing to have. You don't have to worry if something breaks in your house and you cannot afford to get the repairs done. Since I've been with them, I had multiple claims for the central air and heating. They had somebody come right out who were able to fix it. Everybody should have American Home Shield. The only downside is I didn't realize until someone that I referred to them told me that they have a contract. They didn't have a contract when I first started.

We had issues with our fridge, washer, and dryer. The first time Advanced Appliance Services came out, they evaluated the appliances. Automatically, I already had an issue with them because the tech was on the phone and making personal calls the whole time. He didn't even wanna be there. It made it feel like he wasn't diagnosing our issues. It was like he was rushing to get out of our house, which I explained to American Home Shield.
The second time, the same guy came out with a supervisor. The guy had to explain to him what parts to order. That was another wasted day. I have had to miss work numerous times for these things. He diagnosed all three things on the second visit and said, "These fridges are horrible. We'll replace the parts, but American Home Shield won't replace your fridge until it completely takes a dump." They came out again and spent all day fixing all three appliances. My dryer was an easy fix but he forgot the lint trap. He threw it out when he fixed the dryer. We couldn't do any laundry without the lint trap so we had to wait for them to come back again for that. For the washer, he said, "It's good. Do you wanna come listen to it?" I could hear it from where I was sitting and it didn't sound bad. But then when he left, the washer filled up then it wouldn't drain. He didn't fix our issue.
We called again because the lint trap was gone, our washer was still not working and our fridge was not fixed. A guy came back out and assessed the situation. He said, "I can't get ahold of the guy that originally fixed your washer." The second time when they came out to evaluate the situation, I didn't realize it was the lint trap that was missing. My husband said it was the vent. I gave the wrong information. The guy said, "I'll stop by tomorrow and give you the lint trap." But he never stopped by. When he came back, again, he said, "We need to order the same part." He double charged American Home Shield for the same part. They fixed it but it still sounds like crap. He said, "We don't fix the sound of the machine." I find that to be utterly ridiculous because why aren't you fixing the sound of the machine when I'm paying for the service? It's only three years old so it shouldn't sound like that.
They had called me to schedule the appointment for February 22nd. I always ask to be the late appointment because I have to get my daughter at 3:00. But nobody called me and nobody showed up at my house. Nobody called me even after the missed appointment. I'm not chasing people because I'm jeopardizing my job by taking off so many days from work. On the week of March 12th, a new appliance company came out to assess my fridge. The guy was here five seconds then said, "I'll order parts and we'll come back." I don't get how they assess something in five seconds.
At this point, I want American Home Shield to replace my fridge. I've paid the deposit to have these people come out but nothing has been resolved. American Home Shield is not doing anything for me. They've called me five times saying, "We gotta call them and see what they're saying." They've told me that five times but my appliance is still not fixed. None of the reps speaks English so it's very hard to communicate, let alone understand them and get anywhere. I'm frustrated because I'm paying for this service monthly and paid $100 for them to come out.

A guy from Tristar came out for my range hood. He looked inside, took a couple of pictures, went outside and took a couple of pictures as well. He told me they'd be back. When I logged in to American Home Shield, it said the service was completed. They charged me. I kept calling and they said they were getting the fan motor. Weeks went by. TriStar scheduled an appointment for installation but they were a no show. It was six appointments that they no-showed. I work from home some days, so some days, I was taking off and making sure I was home but they weren't showing out. American Home Shield fired TriStar and kept telling me they were trying to find somebody else. Finally, somebody called me from American Home Shield and asked me if I could try to find somebody on my own. I called a couple of companies, but nobody would come out. One company looked it up and the unit's not made anymore. I even called the manufacturer. They don't make the blower motor anymore.
I called American Home Shield and told them all of that. They said, "We need someone to tell us that it needs replacing or we can't pay you out." TriStar already said that it needed to be replaced. They just called it a fan motor instead of blower motor. It's semantics. American Home Shield is jerking me around for months. I'm paying for the policy but they won't do anything. I'm looking into escalating this. From what they're telling me, there's no way for them to service me. I'm in limbo. This has been since October and we're almost in April. I'm just waiting for the day that I can cancel because this is a policy that has no value. I've requested that they send me my policy documents in the mail, which they said they would do it in 10 days but they have not yet. We're gonna review and find out how we can go to arbitration or litigation and make a claim against them. It's not my job to find services to prove to them that the things that they're covering need to be replaced.

I called American Home Shield for my heater that was not working. A contractor came out and fixed it for me. The response time was fast. The repairman went to the attic, checked it and told me the motor was gone. They ordered a new one and it took him two days to come back and put the new one in. I had an issue yesterday with a garage door and American Home Shield sent somebody. But when he came, he told me not everything is covered. I have to pay him $300 to fix my garage door plus $125 for American Home Shield. All my cars were in the garage and I could not take them out. I don't know why it's not covered. When I signed up with you them, the rep told me everything is covered in the garage door. I have another home with another company. They charge me $500 for the whole year but American Home Shield charges me $650. Other companies do the same job like American Home Shield does.

Our air conditioner died in July. I called American Home Shield and they sent Salyers out. It took them two weeks to come out. The way our system is set up, one side of our house has a heater and an air conditioner, and the other side has a heater and an air conditioner. Being the age that it was, they suggested that we get an HVAC system, which is all in one, so we did a little upgrade. The unit was finally put in in November. The guy looked at my husband when he was done and said, "It's all yours." He didn't test it. I have another issue that came up but I'm not gonna call American Home Shield on that until this one is resolved. We still owe them money and I told them, "I'm not paying you a penny until the final inspection."
American Home Shield's call center is overseas so they don't have a command of the English language. The rep never understood what I was trying to tell her. I wanted to speak to a supervisor who got on the phone but couldn't speak English either. We've had summer and August is one of our hottest months of the year. I'm in Northern California in Redding and it gets 110 in the summer. That side of the house is where the master bedroom is so we couldn't sleep in there because it was too hot.
American Home Shield's got good coverage but the issue is getting them to honor the contract. Anything that I do with them is a disaster. I should have cut them off when all this happened but they automatically take the money out of my bank account happily. They're on time with that, but they're not on time with the people that they send out. Their ads are phony. They don't take care of you right away. Also, the cost of doing business with them has doubled since they first started.

We've been with American Home Shield for four years now and we've had mixed experiences with them. On the positive side, they have replaced most of the appliances in the home in that four years. We're probably on a list where they try not to cover anything at this point. But I didn't know when I bought the house that everything was gonna break. Unfortunately, their job is to cover these things and they're dragging their feet with a lot of things. When the furnace broke, they did not take care of that and that should be covered. They claimed that that falls under fire insurance for some reason. But the furnace motor died and it's under AHS.
This recent claim is one of several cases where we've had some issues with them. I made a phone call, let them know that there was water damage on my ceiling and that I needed a plumber to come out and investigate that. They connected me with a plumber very quickly. That plumber then connected me with a water damage team. That water damage team came out within two hours of me calling AHS. My ceiling to my family room was removed. It escalated very quickly. It became an issue where they were working with both home insurance and home warranty. When the water damage crew came out, they said, "This water damage is in all likelihood from a plumbing issue that needs to be snaked in your main line." AHS had sent a crew out to fix this problem. This wax ring was what they kept saying it is now every six to eight months for four years now. Wax rings should last 10 years so there was something more going on.
AHS said, "We're only going to cover a leak because the representative defined it as a leak." I said, "I did not use those words. I used the words water damage." They said, "We will send a plumber out again to investigate the source of the water damage. We're gonna charge you another 125 in order to get that person out, but we will reimburse you within five days." It's been at least a month and a half now and I've yet to receive that reimbursement. I have called and asked about it and they said, "We never said that." I was told they record their phone calls. They were telling me they were going to listen to that phone call and issue it a second time. It is their job to the very least follow up and say, "Here's why we're not reimbursing you as we said we would." or something. It feels deceitful at this point. They were happy to take my money, but they weren't happy to help.
When a homeowner puts in a claim, they are responsible for saying specifically what the claim is for, which is why I didn't put the claim in online for this water issue. If I put in a plumbing claim online, I have to say that I know the cause of the issue. I have to be able to diagnose that. But if I accidentally misdiagnose that, then I'm out of my claim and they say, "Sorry. You put in a claim for a leak, but it's actually a blockage so we can't help you." It feels like there's a culture of deceit or finding that little loophole.

When we thought our installed microwave oven was completely gone, American Home Shield linked us up with Sears. Sears called me back the next day and set an appointment. It took a couple of visits because they had to get a part. They came out first and assessed the problem then they had to come back and fix it. We had a problem last year with an air conditioning unit outside that needed more extensive work and, apparently, it needed a refrigerant which wasn't covered at all. The freon was 900 bucks. I thought we were gonna be in good shape because we had the warranty, but I didn't understand the exclusion.

American Home Shield is peace of mind. When you have a dishwasher, a refrigerator, whatever the appliance is that could go out, and if you could have someone come and diagnose it for $125, that's peace of mind. And that's a wonderful insurance policy to have. On the flip side, because of the last experience, contractors come and diagnose but they couldn't fix it because of something that is brand new to the world of codes and homes. First, I was happy, I would just call them. It now leaves a question, "Should I call them or shouldn't I call them?"
I called AHS and they set up an appointment for our water heater with a company. I waited for the phone call. However, I had to call them. It was a plumber in the area, which I was familiar with. They said they wouldn't be able to come out. It was almost two and half weeks. So, they decided to contact AHS. They contacted the next company. The minute I got off the phone, they immediately called me. They were very polite. They immediately set up the appointment. Confirmed it. They came out the next day. But they were not able to help us.
The water heater didn't have a valve that sits on top. It's called a reserve type thing. When we bought the house four years ago, there was no such a thing. The new ones have to have this reserve tank on it. The older ones for code in this area did not. We asked our neighbors. Nobody else has it. The contractor gave us a quote of 500 and some dollars. The water heater is 15 years old so we didn't want to put $500 into it if it would go out. I understand AHS. They wanna repair it before they fix or replace it for cost. The man was super nice. Couldn't have asked for anybody better. But I just spent $125. we felt deflated. We spent the money but it didn't get fixed. And we had to fix it ourselves.
We just bought a new dryer. We've had AHS repair the dryer twice but the dryer still isn't working. We didn't wanna spend another $125. We bought a new one. But Jim checked the tag on it and the dryer was 24 years old. That's the reason why we didn't do that. We could have had the same person come out, fix it, and six months later, we would still call them again. We might as well just spend the money on a new dryer. But we've only been here four years. It's a very nice home. But people wouldn't know how old the appliances are when they purchase a home.

We had a water heater that was broken since last year. We had called a couple of times until Apollo Plumbing realized that it was leaking. Every time they came here, they would say it was fine. They kept turning it back on. After they replaced it, it kept giving us an issue. It keeps turning the heater off. Finally, American Home Shield sent an HVAC company who told us it was not a vent issue. It was the water heater. It's very frustrating to pay $70 every month and every time a contractor comes here, I pay a 125 service fee. I started with a low monthly then it went up. My husband and I were thinking, with the copay and the service fee, we could have just gotten a water heater from Home Depot and apply financing from them. It's frustrating to keep calling. I asked if there are any other plumbers that could help us but was told Apollo Plumbing is the only one that's contracted under American Home Shield in Minnesota.
You're insured and if something happens, you have a backup. But seeing that I have to pay for a copay, I have to deal with the same company. I told them that I was frustrated and unhappy with the company that they always send us. They also don't do the 24-hour emergency. Our heater broke down in the middle of winter. My daughter takes a bath early in the morning so what we did was heat water in the stove for her. We're wanting to cancel American Home Shield and get a new water heater. It was the same thing with our washer/dryer. It was turning off in the middle of a cycle but the contractor said it was fine. Why would I call?

The water heater failed. I did my claim to American Home Shield over the phone. They treated me very well and I was happy with that. I was happy with the contractor, too. They replaced the hot water heater. It was during the freeze. So, there weren't that many plumbers available because everybody had frozen pipes as their problem. I happen to be an engineer. It was leaking badly and empty. We turned off the water to the hot water heater. I had them check it. They made sure there was no gas issue and they made sure that it wasn't a slab leak, that it was truly the hot water heater.
They came out on Thursday, and turned it off. Then I was asking on Friday, "When am I gonna get my hot water heater?" It's a small company. It's not a huge company but they were very responsive and the lady that runs their office was awesome. I went without hot water for about a day and a half to two days, and then they showed up and replaced the whole thing and it was fine. As far as American Home Shield, they have a list of ready contractors that they have already vetted. Sometimes stuff isn't covered that I think should be.

The fridge stopped working and after I submitted the claim online, we got an email telling us the company that was assigned to our issue and that they would be in contact within 24 hours. But the dude from Arctic Air, Joe, called us within 20 minutes to schedule an appointment. He was awesome. He knew exactly what to do and what to order. Multiple things have taken a dump and one was a relay. I told him I bought one but it's a cheap Chinese one. He said there was a recall on these years ago so apparently, the previous owner of the house never got the recall done. The relays burn up. He said I was lucky because this is the original one from the 80s and this didn't catch fire. After he replaced the relay, he got it all powered up and it turned on. But the control board wasn't turning on the compressor. He said it was super common. The compressor seizes up and then it overheats the relay. So, he got the new compressor and the relay in.
The temperature wasn't doing what it was supposed to be doing and he pulled down the control board. It was fried also. They're special order parts because the fridge is from the 80s but those came in within a couple of days. It was on a Friday though and we were having company that weekend, so I just asked Joe to come the following week. It’s working perfectly now.
I like that with American Home Shield, I have peace of mind that if there are little things like this that go out, it's easy enough to get it taken care of, even though we live out in the sticks. But people should read the contract carefully because there's a lot of stuff that's covered that I didn't know about. I didn't know that they covered leaking faucets and I already fixed the faucets myself. The packet is available online but I don't read too well, especially online stuff. So, my wife was the one who read it. She said all these I’ve been fixing are covered by the warranty.

Our initial claim with American Home Shield was for a dishwasher that was leaking water. I called them over the phone to submit my claim. It takes a while to get a human, but that's just the way it is. There is always the wait. You put your ear pod in and you're on your drive. You just hope you get done by the time you get to where you're going. The contractor that I have is a very capable individual, but they didn't have a part, so then they had to order a part. I had to wait for that part to come. Then once it arrived, then we had to reschedule again. And then they came out and put that part in. A day or two later, the leak was resolved, but the dishes weren't being washed properly and there was this much louder noise than previous, which made me call again.
When I called again, the initial person said it was a separate call and not a follow up call. He hung up on me. So, I had to call back again and talk to somebody. That person is a bit more competent because they said, "Oh, this seems to be the same issue. We'll put it on the same ticket." Somebody else came out. Once again, they looked at it, scratched up the floor, and they took the dishwasher in and out. They looked at the part and they said, "Oh, this is a faulty part and you need a pump." So once again, they ordered the part, waited for the part to come, called back again, scheduled an appointment, went back and made another trip, and then they put it in and then they take it out, put it back, and there were more scratches on the floor.
At the end, it finally got done. It's just it took many trips and they still have some damage from getting it done. As far as AHS, I know someone's gonna come. Is it gonna be the best person? Is it gonna be the best route to solve the issue? Probably not but at least someone will get out here quickly. I feel the coverage is great. It takes a while to get someone on the phone, but you'll get a contractor. If it's on the weekend, that doesn't work unless they deem it as an emergency. It might be an emergency to you but not to them. So, if it's on the weekend, forget about it and just wait until Monday.
Outside of that, you're gonna get a contractor and someone's gonna come out. Are they gonna overcharge you? Absolutely. I had an AC issue at the same address last year and they charged me $100 for Freon. I know that some of it is covered but the contractors also know how to get money out of the client. So, it's a double-edged sword. You get somebody but you're gonna pay for it in time and money. I'd tell others that if they don't have a good rolodex of quality people that are gonna come, then they could go ahead and get AHS.Charlotte: We're recorded.

It’s pretty easy to file the request, except it always takes way too long until the company calls. I feel like AHS doesn't have enough people in my area. They send an email or text that they've assigned somebody to the case but very often, it can take a long time until that person contacts me and/or until they're actually able to come. If you have a bathroom and a kitchen issue, somebody might not come for three or four days and God forbid something happens on the weekend. It's almost impossible to get ahold of anyone. Also, it's so inconvenient to remember when my contract is up and I'll get charged if I don't end it when my contract is up.
The last time I had a problem, I have one toilet and it was completely clogged. I used the app and about an hour or two later, I got a text telling me that they had assigned a company to me and that I would hear from the company within 24 hours. But when you have a completely stuffed up toilet, you can't wait 24 hours. I called the company and the company was a guy. I don't think he had anybody work for him. He happened to be out of town four hours away and he said he won't be able to get here for a couple of days. I called AHS on the phone and the rep said she would see what they could do. While I was talking to her, she had me on hold. She talked to the plumber while I was on hold and I got a call from him saying he would come home and he would take care of it. I had to really jump through hoops.
I had another the thing that kind of bothered me. About three years ago, my water heater went and it's one of the things that’s supposedly covered, but I had to pay a lot of money because they told me that the laws in town had changed and that a different circuit breaker had to be installed for it. I had to call an electrician to put in a separate line for it. It was over $1,000 that I wasn't expecting on spending. To me, if they're gonna replace my water heater and they're supposed to pay for the whole thing, that should have been part of it. They make such a big deal out of the fact that whatever is covered is completely covered, but in this case, it wasn't.
The people they use are terrific and when they come, they're very nice. But I live in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and they seem to hire mostly contractors that are in Orlando or West Palm Beach who take care of people in the areas where they come from before they take the trip up here. They have to have a slow day to even wanna take this trip. I'm thinking about looking for another company. I have asked them more than five years ago if they were going to be getting more contractors in my area and they swore they were, but they haven't.

I wasn't too happy with my last service with American Home Shield. I've had them for 23 years and I've had several times I've used them. And this last time, I was first reporting a thermostat, and then I canceled it a day or two later. It was a washer and dryer, and then the refrigerator. I asked American Home Shield are those separate charges or is it all considered one and they said, no, that it would be one cost, the $125 to come out, and it would be one company that would be dealing with all the appliances. I've always been satisfied with them. I still would recommend to friends. I only had one bad issue with them and that was this last time I used them. American Home Shield is affordable and very easy to deal with. There's no arguing back and forth or waiting forever to get a response or to get the parts they need. If anything goes wrong in your house, it's always, nowadays, costly to get those things repaired, both parts and labor. To have a home warranty plan like American Home Shield is an investment. When we needed a new outdoor condenser unit, a contractor came out, assessed the situation and found that to be the issue. They ordered one up and installed it. They were on top of things. I'm a custom homebuilder so I know what's good and not. These guys were super good tradesmen.

A contractor came out and inspected my heat pump. They told us they were going to submit a quote to American Home Shield with the diagnosis. That was back in the beginning of February. I had reached out to American Home Shield multiple times but they never received a quote from the contractor. American Home Shield sent out another company and we were able to finally get a diagnosis. They changed our filter but we still have an issue when the temperature goes below 32 degrees. Apparently, that's normal for a heat pump. The first company that came out told us that there are multiple types of heat pumps and there is one that has an inverter, which wouldn't be able to handle temperatures below 32 degrees. That was what they were saying they were going to recommend. The next company told me they didn't have any idea what an inverter heat pump was.
I was with American Home Shield for a year. I was unaware that I had to renew the contract manually so it lapsed. I had finally realized that I wasn't paying for it. I called them and they said that it was never renewed. I renewed it again, and this happened so I'm glad I renewed it that time. But I'm not completely happy with American Home Shield. I never got a call from them with this last company that was there. I had to reach out to them two weeks later.

PJ Appliances came for the stove. That was their third time coming for the same issue in six months. I bought the house less than three years ago so everything was fairly upgraded as of 2018. I couldn't fathom as to why I had to keep calling for the same problem. I told American Home Shield, "I'll try to fix it myself or find somebody else to fix it because you keep contracting the same people. They're coming out and fixing it, but it's not saying complete. I paid for the price of the stove as many times that I had to call you to come out and pay the $100." I told them to give the cash to me so I could purchase a new stove. But we're still without a stove. According to American Home Shield, I have to have a new stove and it has to have a year warranty. I found the stove, but it wasn't a year warranty.
In September, there was an issue with the plumbing. American Home Shield contracted Brick Street Plumbing. These people came out and opened up my wall. We've been calling them and reaching out since then. They have not called me or American Home Shield back. I told American Home Shield, "After this, let's go to somebody else." I had to pay another $100 for another contractor to come out. That was unfair. It was not my fault that the contractor abandoned the job order. I'm not very pleased with what I had to endure this last year. American Home Shield should send out A1 contractors and when contractors don't return calls or abandon the job, American Home Shield shouldn't let it go past three times. After the first go-round, go to another contractor, and it should not be at the expense of the customer. Also, if I'm paying monthly, why do I have to pay 100 to have somebody to come out. I'm paying twice.

I like American Home Shield because if something happens, you pay your service fee for somebody to come out and fix it and if it's not fixable, they're gonna replace it with the same as you have. When my heater was making a banging noise, a repairman came and explained to me what he was gonna look for. When he got done, he explained to me everything that he did. They had to replace a part. However, recently, American Home Shield upped the service charge to $100 a visit. That's a little bit too much. I'm also disappointed in the plumbing situation because if I read the contract right, there are only certain things that they'll cover. They should have more coverage on plumbing.

I had an issue with my garage door and I didn't know that the protection that I had was limited. When the tech came in, he explained to me that it wasn't gonna be either replaced or repaired. He already knew based on experience that it was not gonna be covered. They replaced the full motor and I had to pay them and they didn't submit the situation to AHS to see if something was gonna be covered. I called AHS and they said I was supposed to submit first the request to see if something was gonna be covered at least or the fee and I didn't know that. I told them I paid the contractor directly because that's what they said and the rep explained to me that that was not how it works. But she said that it indeed wasn't gonna be covered with my coverage because I have a basic one but she said to call next time because I don't know if maybe something was gonna be reimbursed. Other than that, I didn't have any problems and they responded quickly. Although, the copay is a little bit high.

The service guy came out and wrote down that there was a motor in the dishwasher that wouldn't work to make it drain and there were a couple of other issues. He turned it in to American Home Shield and they said it was too much to repair. They gave me a list to pick which ones I wanted to replace it with, which was what I did. When the customer service rep called on Friday to schedule when the techs were going to bring the appliance, I was told they were gonna be there on Monday. It was perfect and I took my day off. On Monday morning, the tech called us and said they wouldn’t come out in the area on Monday and they gotta come on Tuesday.
I spoke to the manager and he apologized. He said the lady should never have scheduled that on Monday. I said making the apology was fine but it was not covering the two days of vacation I gotta take on. He said he couldn’t do anything about it, which maybe not, but I got screwed out of a whole extra day of vacation. I needed to get paid so I had to use it, which I was saving for the summer. But it is what it is. Things happen but I was pissed off. I like though that AHS doesn't cost that much but it covers a lot. The price was very reasonable. They replaced the dishwasher, which was 400 bucks, and my policy was $150. AHS is worth doing to cover all your appliances or other needs you've got in your home.

I called American Shield to set up an appointment to come look at some lighting just because I thought I was covered under my home insurance. The person that I first talked to couldn't make an appointment for me because their system was down. They told me to go to the website and where to click and they said my appointment should be good. It cost me $100 to have the tech come out here and the person on the phone told me to do that and I'll be taken care of. They came out here and the tech said he couldn't do anything because the lights are most likely not covered under my plan. Then why did he come out here? They charged me $100 to come out here to say they can't do anything and then leave. I called AHS directly after the guy left and they said it happens and they weren't going to refund me. I had to go to my bank and explain the exact same thing to my bank and they reversed the charge. It seems like AHS is almost specific on certain things or they will classify certain things to not be underneath the coverage umbrella but would seem like it. And it'll still cost you money for them to come out and just see if what you need is covered.

The claim for the garage door was done within a week. We had a good young man coming in. I was satisfied with that. I also had somebody who did a cooktop. They came in and it felt hassle-free. But we had an incident where it took too long. We put in the claim in September last year, and it was done last month. I was calling American Home Shield 100 times every day, talking to customer service almost all the time, and following up with the contractor who dropped the ball on that. The part showed up, but the contractor took three months to show up.
Four years ago, we were in another house and had American Home Shield as well. When the repairman for the water heater walked in, he met my wife, assumed my wife was a renter, and kept on saying, “I'm gonna write a quote real good that the owners of the house will have to fix for you." My wife told me, “We can't use this person because he is intentionally overpriced.” We decided to go with a local plumber. We did not use American Home Shield. This year, we had the same water problem. The same guy showed up. When my wife saw him, her blood boiled. But we let him do his work. He said, “You're out of code. I have to put you back to code.” We just bought this house in 2018. How is it out of code all of a sudden when something breaks down? He was charging us 2,000 on top of what American Shield was taking care of.
We asked for a second opinion. Somebody came and told us we were on code and there was nothing wrong with our piping. We got a local contractor to do it and it was done within 24 hours. It feels weird when asking American Shield if they could give give us cash payment for us to do it. The amount they give is peanuts compared to the service that they could have done if the contractor was good. The customer service goes to the end of what they could do but it looks like I'm paying out of pocket more while I'm paying for home warranty. I don't mind bumping up a little if I need something of quality. I pay because I'm looking for peace of mind. When the peace of mind doesn't materialize, then we have a problem. When somebody comes in and maybe takes you for an idiot, that is unacceptable.

I filed a claim using the Home Shield website and I put a clogged sink. I wasn't really sure what the problem was and it didn't let me choose multiple ones. But overall, it was pretty good. I got a name and number of the contractor via email and then, I got a text from the company identifying who the tech was by first name and that they would give me a call the morning of or the day before the actual scheduled service call. Plumbers Inc. came in and it was great.
The coverage has proven itself to be useful. I've had five or six occasions where I've used them and it's been a godsend each time. But I've had a couple of issues where they assigned one contractor and then it turns out that for whatever reason that it’s gonna be another contractor. There were a little bit of delay on a couple of claims. Also, one of the other plumbers had to tear into my wall to get to the pipes and the coverage covered putting a new drywall and painting the wall but I suggested putting an access panel there instead. From a cost perspective, it's a lot cheaper than putting drywall and doing the whole thing. But they said they couldn't do it and it's not covered. They had to do the drywall part instead and it seemed inane to me at the time.

Filing a service request was pretty easy to do, although getting through the automated system sometimes can be a pain. We've only ever had to do it twice and it was both for a water heater. There was a leak at the bottom of the water heater and the first round was due to an expansion tank. It had wore its time and they replaced a part. The second time was the same thing. We noticed that there was a little leak at the bottom and they sent someone out again. They determined that at this point, the water tank was gone and that it needed to be replaced. We had to set up a follow up with the company and they were able to come in, get old heater removed, and put in the new one without issue. The upgraded it and all the different pipes attached to it to bring it up to code. Aside from the copay, there was an additional $100 charge just because of where the hot water tank was. They had to move the washer/dryer and some of those things around in order to get the old one out. Then, they forgot to fully process the claim but AHS was easy to work with. The rep called the company right away in the morning and got it all taken care of.

The first time the contractor came out, they looked at my dishwasher. They brought the dishwasher out. It was bent and they took it back. When they took it back, they closed the claim out. I was here thinking they were gonna bring me another one. After three weeks, I finally had to call back and American Home Shield told me they closed the claim. I said, "Wouldn't it make sense to bring me another one now? I paid for that. Don't you wanna give me my money back?" I paid the extra on it to get what I wanted. The rep said, "I'll have somebody call you tomorrow." But nobody ever had called me.
A week later, they drove up here with another dishwasher. But they said, "We're not allowed to put this in. You got a leak down there." American Home Shield had to send somebody else out here. He said, "This always happens. They always do that. They always say they can never put it in." I finally got a new dishwasher but it's hard to tell me how to start it. It didn't come with a lot of instructions so I have to swing it myself.

But then they had to come back because both of the commodes were still running periodically and unfortunately, I'm gonna have to call them again because both commodes are still running from time to time. But it's so frustrating calling AHS sometimes when you have to push so many buttons. It takes a minute or two to get to a live person if you don't know to cut zero. I like the ease of convenience for the service call with American Home Shield. It is magical. The repair guy who came for the roof was lovely. He came out within a couple of days, just like the appointment setter had called me and told me he would. We got the emails and text messages that we were gonna have somebody come out. He introduced himself and said, “I'm gonna go up on the roof and take a peek. Where are the target areas?” I said, “Let me show you from the inside because I can't tell you from up there." He came in so I could show him the spots where I was hearing the leaking. He got up there, did his thing, and I met him at the front again. He let me know that they would write up a report and get back to us for an approval.
Within a couple of days, I got a phone call from the roofing company saying they had been approved the work order. We booked the appointment for that week, and it was fixed within two weeks. It was a couple of shingles that had come loose, and all it needed was some extra loving care because the roof was in good shape.

American Home Shield is worth it knowing that you have somebody to rely upon. They have always been very prompt at getting someone out here. There was a time when they didn't have anyone local. It was a pain in the neck when they had to come from Kansas. But with Kemp Heating and AC, they were here the next day. However, they said it was ductwork and not covered under American Home Shield. The repairman said it'd be about $500. The furnace was making a sound when it went off then nothing. Then it would run fine. I asked the repairman if it was dangerous. He checked for leakage and said that it wasn't showing any carbon monoxide. There also have been a couple instances where I was not covered. One was a breakage in a sewer line which was outside the house. That was $1,500. I realized that the amount of money that I pay for my policy, there has to be restrictions on what they will pay for.

We got American Home Shield when we moved to Paragould, Arkansas in 2019. It was part of the home purchase, and we were pleased with the service, so we've been with them ever since. We've interacted with their customer service any time we've had a repair, and they've always been professional and done a good job.
We recently submitted an online claim for our dishwasher because the detergent dispenser wasn't working, and the website worked well. We knew it was Sears that was assigned. In fact, we saw a picture of who was coming. The repair people were professional and knew exactly what they were doing. They were good folks. They installed the new dispenser they ordered and had in the house when they showed up, and now, it's working well.
American Home Shield saves me money. It seems like every house we’d go to, we have to have an air conditioner replaced. Our air conditioner experience in Paragould was bad, but other than that, it's been fine. I’ve told people that American Home Shield is easy to deal with and that it's 80 bucks and they're covering major repairs that way. People pay a small deductible, and there they go. The price is reasonable.

I got a call back from American Home Shield saying it's not something that they fix. I was confused about that because the tech fixed it. But I said, "I don't understand why it wouldn't be fixed because I don't know how to fix it."
The way he explained to me was how it needed to be done and needed somebody to professionally do it. But I wouldn't know how to do that. When I got the phone call saying the contractor would not be able to fix it, I was confused. I said, "They already came out and he fixed it." AHS' rep said, "Oh, okay. I wasn't aware of that." That was a confusing part. That made me question my future thing. That visit was odd to me.
Had the tech told me he couldn't fix it, I would have been upset because I had to pay the $100 upfront for him to come out here just to tell me things that they could not fix. I wouldn't have known until he came out to see. But I still wouldn't have been able to do what he did. American Home Shield sent Brick Street Plumbing to fix the toilet. They fixed two of them. The one in the middle floor was running constantly. After you flushed it, it would run and run. When you would jiggle the handle, it would stop. He fixed that. Then the one upstairs was leaking. He replaced the wax ring at the bottom. It’s not leaking anymore. He was really good. I liked him. He did a good job. As far as submitting the claim, I can either go on their website and request the service there or I can call them on the phone and request the service that way. Since I have a contract, they sent the person out, but I have to pay $100 every time they send a service person out. The contract pays for everything else though.
One time I had the hot water heater go out, and they came and replaced that. I only had to pay $100. They paid for the rest of it, and it was more than $100 to replace it. It was really good. I saved about $500. I've had AHS for 5 years, and I do like it. Sometimes I think I'm spending too much money on it because it's about $96 a month. So, that's high when you think about it, but if you had several things happen, you would save money.
They did help me fix my heating and air conditioning when that broke. They send a repairman out and if he can fix it by replacing a part or doing the repairs, then they'll do it that way. In my case, we had to replace the whole system. So, they helped pay for that but they didn't pay for the ductwork, and that was one of the most expensive parts of it. They replaced the garbage disposal, too. They're helpful if you ever have anything happen. So, I like having it. AHS covered everything I needed them to cover, but then I gotta pay the $100 fee every time someone came out. The price is not that great but the service is good. I would recommend it. I usually call AHS when I have a claim but I found that doing it online was just as easy. The times that I have used the website, I've been able to navigate it pretty easily. Then, I'm usually given, at least, the name and the phone number of the contractor and they'll call me within 24 hours. But sometimes, depending on what's going on, I'll call them before they call me, just to make sure I don't get lost in the shuffle with them. Recently, the left side of my sink in the kitchen was leaking into the enclosure underneath it.
I submitted a claim with AHS and the gentleman who came out was fairly pleasant. He was there within a week of the claim. He was able to listen to me and take a look around to diagnose the problem. He was able to get it diagnosed fairly quickly. As it seems with this house, he identified some things that either weren't done right when it was originally built or if it had been repaired or changed before we purchased it, some things that could have been done better. And he went in there and fixed it up. He did it all in one walk and was only there for two hours tops. Since then, I haven't had any problems.
Having AHS is convenient. When something goes wrong, it works out much better for me to just dish out the $100 instead of the hundreds or thousands of dollars that it may cost to get something fixed if I had to pay the vendor directly. I've also never had a problem with customer service though the price has been creeping up when we renew. Despite that, AHS saves me time and money because it's a one-stop shop and I know what my price is going to be all the time.

One of the outlets wasn't working. My husband called American Home Shield, and the claims process was easy. We've never had any issues with that. They provide who were the contractors, what company it is and, usually, the phone number. We receive information over the phone and also get an email. The service was decent. He checked it, and actually, the outlet worked. My grandson thought he had put a plug in, and he said it wasn't working. So, instead of one of us checking ourselves, my husband said, “Well, let me just go ahead and call electrician, them to come out.” The tech did repair another outlet because that was loose in the wall. He tightened it up.
I like the punctuality of AHS. The contractors that we've had thus far have been good. I just hate that even though it’s something as minimum as tightening up the outlet, $100 still has to be paid. Also, the price went up $20 last year. It used to be $54. Now, it jumped up to $74.99. Still, AHS is a great service so far. We had our washing machine repaired, and that was great. And one hour later, the same problem was still wrong with the washing machine.
AHS finally sent out a new vendor who knew what they were doing. And in 15 minutes, they fixed the problem that didn't involve any parts. They just needed to vacuum it out. We told the guy and AHS didn't listen. Their vendor for this washing machine was terrible. And we're stuck until we get a new company. Don't use AHS.

American Home Shield forces people to go with a particular vendor even if they had a bad experience with that vendor. They would say that was the only person that services your area. I pay money every month. And when I have a service request that is covered, all of a sudden, they do a review, and they would start looking for fine print to exclude the item that I needed serviced.
The technician invented problems that did not exist. So, I had to go back to American Home Shield. And they got another plumbing company that came out to take a look. I have a unique kind of system for my basement. It has a pump, to pump up sewage and take it outside the house. The first person came in and said that I needed to change all of that. But the second person that came in said that I did not need to. He looked and said I didn't need to change the pump switch. Everything was fine. It worked. So, it was obvious the first person tried to look for additional business on the side because American Home Shield wouldn't cover the additional work he said that I needed to do.

My washing machine broke. I made a phone call to American Home Shield and said, "My washer is broken. I need to have someone come out and repair it." They charged me the $100 service fee, and they said somebody would be in touch. Access Appliance came out, and I had a lot of issues with them. They determined what the problem was and said that they needed to order parts and that they would be back within three to five business days. That was on a Wednesday. I called the following Monday. They said, "Oh, no. It takes at least 10 business days. We have to order the parts.” I kept waiting. I called AHS back and they said, "Oh, well, it just takes time. They have to order parts." I said, "Well, I told you guys initially what was wrong before they even came out. So parts should have been ordered. I shouldn't be waiting on this." It took almost a month for everything to get settled and fixed.
Initially, it was fixed. AHS ended up giving me back money for the service fee because the other company failed to show up on three different occasions. I called back and said, "I want another company out." They said they didn't have another company. I said, "Well, then I want my money back. I'm tired of waiting around for somebody not to show up and not even to give me a courtesy call." So, I got the $100 service fee back. Overall, I like that AHS has a lot of things covered. I don't like when I have to try and fight the coverage. A lot of things are covered, but then sometimes when I call for something, then they're trying to say it isn't covered.

American Home Shield's pricing seemed to be okay and what they offered seemed to be all right. The air conditioner was not cooling. They got a technician out here the next day. But it wasn't the greatest experience after that. The technician tried to tell me a bunch of things that weren't needed, stated that a bunch of things had to be updated to reach code. But when I asked what the codes were, they couldn't state what. They just said, "This is how it should be done."
I ended up getting quotes from two other HVAC companies outside of AHS. They came back and looked at everything. I didn't give them a prompting on anything. And they said, "Here's what needs to be changed. Everything else is fine." When I showed them what was said was wrong, they said, "None of that is real." They said, "This is a home warranty tech, isn't it?" I said, "Yes." They said, "They're just trying to get you to do work because they get paid too little by the home warranty." And when I called AHS about it, they said, "We don't actually check that stuff. If the tech says that's what needs to be done, we just believe them. We don't actually verify if any of the work that they're saying is true or not."
So, they offered me $200 to replace an entire evaporator coil, a $5,000 job. They said, "We only pay the technician $200 to do that work. So that's what we'll give you if you wanna just do it yourself." And I didn't trust the technician. They said, "You either go with this person or you take the $200. But if you go with them, you have to do the work that they're saying, otherwise they won't do the work."
They wanted me to pay them an extra $3,800 out of pocket to do additional stuff that would have just been superfluous work. They stated things, like I needed additional emergency overflow sensors. I already have two emergency overflow sensors on my air conditioner. It was a bunch of trash. AHS said, "We don't verify the integrity of the technicians. We just trust them. So if that's what they say, that's what they say. And you can either take it or leave it."
I took the $200. I went to someone else. I got someone that I felt more comfortable with to do the work. It cost me out of pocket. And I decided I'm not gonna renew with American Home Shield after the end of this year. AHS was fast to get someone out here. But they do not do a great job vetting their network and following up afterward. They had somebody come look at it. They had an offer to get it fixed. But overall, the experience was negative.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss further.

I needed a new furnace and the contractor did not put it in. It was a very bad experience. I got American Home Shield's customer service people, but they couldn't do anything about it. I paid out of pocket for the entire project instead of Piedmont Mechanical doing what they were supposed to do. Piedmont Mechanical would charge me $1,500 additional to what they would get from AHS. I was out of the country. I had no choice but to agree to pay it. They came and looked at the job, and said I needed to move walls and get things done. That would cost me at least another $500 to $1,000. That would have been $2,000, plus AHS pays them. I got so frustrated. I was able to get the guy who maintains that place for me to go in there, put in a brand new unit without moving any walls for $2050. When I call AHS, I couldn't get any relief from them. I intend to drop my entire AHS.

I don't like American Home Shield, but I wanted to get coverage because I'm by myself, and being a single female trying to fix things in my home, it's hard when I don't know everything. So, I got the services just in case something happened. The last time I got services from them, the provider that came to my house didn't give me the correct information from American Home Shield. I didn't know to ask AHS, but I thought the people would know the information. Or they told tell me the information but they told me the incorrect ones.
People come out. They feature things. But if you have a name brand item, like I had a garbage disposal name brand, when they came out, they told me that I couldn't get that same one and I would have to pay more to get that. It just had to be the same power of the item. So, I was upset about that. I had one half horsepower. And I had a good brand from Home Depot. The servicer who came out said, “You can get the same one. You just have to pay more of the difference.” Whatever the customers have in their home, it should be replaced the same exact one instead of an off-brand which in less than two weeks, was damaged, and they had to come back to replace.
I called American Home Shield and they sent the contractor out for my washer and dryer, and dishwasher. However, the contractor scheduled me unknowingly. They automatically scheduled me, and the tech was, “We're coming to your house.” I said, “You guys didn't confirm or talk to me. You guys don't make my appointment. You guys have to contact me to make an appointment first.” I was upset about that.
It was one guy and it was his own business. It didn't seem like he knew some stuff. I saw a part that he ordered for my dishwasher from Amazon. It made me want to go to either a bigger company or to get services. I wouldn't use them. But he had to come back and rescheduled another appointment without talking to me. I said, “I have to reschedule.” Or something happened where he was outside my house, and he said, “I'm outside your house.” I said, “I'm not there.” He was frustrated, and I said, “We can reschedule, because I didn't schedule this initial appointment.” I even left a review on some app, but I said, “You have to call people in advance. If there's a big window for people to come, you still should call them, and that's what I actually requested.” I asked for them to call me 30 minutes prior to them coming.
I was 30 minutes out, I said, “You gotta let me know that you're on your way.” He said, “This is your scheduled time from 8 to 12, so you need to be here.” Every company either called me and said, “I'm on my way,” and even if I requested it, some people wouldn't request a call. But some people do it as a courtesy. But I requested, “Can you call me prior to coming, 30 minutes?” He said, “Yeah, sure.”
I don't wanna use them next time because I don't know what parts they use to replace stuff. A total of three men came to my house. One was the person that owns the company and he had somebody with him that oversaw, but looked like he was his friend. And the next time he came back to bring the part, it was somebody else that came. It doesn't look like a company to me. Also, I'm paying too much. It keeps going up every often. I might look for another service for appliances.

American Home Shield is easy to work with. The initial issue was the thermostat and it wasn't heating or cooling. The tech put in a thermostat that I didn't like. He took out an expensive thermostat and put in a cheap, $10 one. He said he cleaned the place in the main unit and that seemed to have taken care of most of it. I am getting heat now. I still don't like the thermostat, but at least I'm getting heat.
What I didn't like about customer service was I received a stupid letter talking about abuses to the system. But I never touched the thermostat. So, I didn't know what the letter talked about. Also, I'm in an area that was a new development and all the houses had some rats and mice in them. I haven't seen anything like that in more than 10 years. And I guess it had some where the rats tried to get water and the tech complained about that as well. I didn't like the way that he handled the situation. I called AHS to cancel the program. The rep solved the problems for me. So I told them, "Okay, we'll give it another try." But I thought AHS was a good company. I noticed that they are not number one anymore. There are four other companies ahead of them, which is what I would change to.

We had an LG washer that was older than 10 years and the door locking mechanism started to go bad. It wouldn’t start the load because it couldn't lock. American Home Shield got an appliance repair person to come out from ACT Appliances and it was a bad experience. The guy didn’t speak English so he was using Google Translate to communicate with me. The first time he came out, he was able to reset the machine to get it going again and it worked for maybe a couple of loads but it ended up producing the same error. So, I called AHS back and told them the washer was still doing the same thing. So, they contacted the same appliance repair company and sent the same guy out. I explained that whatever he did last time, it didn’t work. There was something wrong with the locking mechanism of the door.
Before the guy came out the second time, AHS told me they were gonna order a part to repair the door and that they would have communicated that with the repair company. But that didn't happen. When the guy showed up, he didn't know anything about a part that was ordered. And he looked at me like I was stupid and reset the machine again. I asked him to show me how to do that and he was again Google-translating and using sign language to talk to me. He said I needed to unplug the machine, let it sit for five minutes and then restart it, and it should work. We tried that but it didn't work. So, at this point, I didn't know what to do.
I called AHS back a third time and told them not to send that guy if they are gonna send another person out because he doesn't speak English, he doesn't fix the problem and he looks at me like I'm stupid. I was adamant that I didn't wanna work with the same guy again and they said that they were gonna speak to their manager and make sure someone else would come out. The machine was never fixed. I even tried to call the manufacturer directly but we just got an automated service for troubleshooting. There was no real person you could talk to. So, it was very hard to do any sort of in-person troubleshooting with that company. At this point, I don't wanna deal with it anymore because we've been going back and forth for about a month now. I have to take my clothes to my parents’ house to get them washed so my husband and I decided to get a whole new washer.
This is the first time I've ever used AHS for an appliance situation and I have read reviews that they're not as good for appliances. But we’ve used them for AC repair before and they managed to save us a lot of money. We had several AC companies come out and give us quotes on new systems and AHS was able to stretch out the use of our AC system, which is nice. But I would not use them again for general appliance repairs. AHS is quick to respond to initial service requests. They have a very good system for that. But if you're gonna submit a request for a general appliance repair, I wouldn't go that route. I would reach out to just a general appliance repair man or the manufacturer directly to see if there's someone else they can use.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

The disposal started leaking and the contractor was very responsive. I sent a video and an email and they contacted me immediately. We have not used the property for at least two weeks and when the technician came, everything was fine. But when we started using the kitchen and the disposal, it started leaking again. I called American Home Shield and they sent the technician again. He saw that the leak was coming from the disposal and he replaced it. Everything was resolved in a good manner. Submitting the claim to AHS was smooth and the only thing is that now, we need to pay the service in advance, but it's not an issue. I always refer people to American Home Shield. I like the expedited service and the manner in which the tech promptly came to the property and fixed the issue.

The evaporation coil was leaking and I called American Home Shield on March 4th. They called HD Service Company here in Kansas and HD came out and checked the air conditioner. They went downstairs and put a sniffer in there. When they turned the air conditioner off, it made all kinds of noise and I told them that it was bad. HD sent their findings to AHS but AHS did not order the replacement part till yesterday. My wife has asthma really bad and she's suffering. We had an issue with our furnace probably in February and all it cost us was a service call because the fire stick needed cleaning. The contractor came out and did that. They were very good.

The garbage disposal wasn’t working. When you hit the switch, it wouldn't do anything. The tech came out to evaluate the disposal and went under it. He put an Allen wrench under it and moved it. The second time, the tech repeated the same thing. And after he left, it never worked. Finally, the third time the tech came out, I told him I didn't know what he was doing. My wife is just like most women. If it's supposed to work, it needs to work. And when he left, we didn't even use it. We went to check it and it was not working. So it's defective. They finally replaced it after coming out and telling us to put ice down there and clean it. It was the same guy each time and he was aware of what was going on. He did his job the best he could but it was inconvenient.
I get off work after 11 o'clock and I tell them I’m available after 11 o'clock. They would call me at 9 o'clock and ask me if I could make a 10 o'clock appointment. It fell through one time doing that. Their times would change. And they don't do things on the weekend unless it's an emergency. So, it was a little difficult. But I like most about American Home Shield the ability to call somebody and they know who to call to get what I need done. I don't have to search around and try to identify whoever I need. They make it convenient.

Everything that I've had any need for was resolved in a timely manner and all the various companies who have come out for the different types of aspects have been professional and friendly. If it wasn't resolved the same day and required a part of something, I was contacted when the part became available for them to follow up and come back to resolve it. Filing a claim is easy unless you already have one that's still open and pending. It kinda gets a little confusing and I did end up having to call in. Also, when you submit a claim, they ask upfront what you're filing a claim for and they ask for that particular appliance's model and serial numbers. At that point, it should make it easier for them and they should come prepared. If I'm telling you what's wrong, I would think that you will come with the general parts for that particular component of whatever the appliance is so that they would cut down on having to "order parts" or something like that. That should expedite the service claim.
The only thing that I would have an issue with is if a contractor doesn't clean up behind themselves. When the dishwasher was repaired, my family took out the racks and once the contractor was through with the job, I guess they didn't feel they should put it back but I felt like they should because how do you know everything is working unless everything is back in place? Also, other than the monthly premium that I pay, I have to pay a $125 deductible for each occurrence no matter what it is. It could be something as minor that I could fix it myself for a few dollars.
But another good thing about American Home Shield is I could have up to three items in one claim. If the dishwasher, icemaker, and stove act up all at one time, I'm paying the 125 deductible but the technicians are going to resolve the issue with those three things. So, it's a wonderful insurance to have, especially if you're like myself -- a widow with nobody to be able to fix things, as long as you're able to afford the monthly premium and co-pay. It's better to have it and not have to use it than to be in a situation where you need it and don't have the American Home Shield service. Based on my experience with them and the whole purpose for it, I would highly recommend it to anybody who owns a home.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

My most recent claims for a heater fan and a low-voltage wire were not covered. But AHS sent somebody out to my house. I told the guy who came what was wrong with it and he was only here for two seconds. The fan wasn't covered because it supposedly wasn't normal wear and tear. I called American Home Shield to ask why the wire wasn't covered and they just kept saying it’s not run by electricity or gas. That bothered me because voltage is electricity. The reps don’t speak good English so, maybe they didn't understand me. I asked for a supervisor and the rep said nobody was there at that time. So, my last experience with AHS was very bad. But the two before that between my mother's and mine were good.
You have to be on it because AHS tries to not cover certain things. So, I usually try to figure out what's wrong with my stuff before I call. I asked my pool guy what was wrong and he told me the exact parts and what was wrong. So, I wish I didn't have to pay $100 to find out it's not covered when I knew exactly what was wrong. So, if you wanna get AHS, it's a great thing if they cover it. But do your investigation to see if it's gonna be covered and try to speak to a person and not a robot when you're making a claim and they take your credit card.

It's not that great to use. It doesn't give you a great option to describe your problem. Other than that, I was given the best contractor. That's 100% the best thing going on. They let you know when they're coming, and call you right before they get there. The service people have been very professional, fast, courteous, and kind except for the one who came and did my drain. My whole bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen filled up with water.
The tech connected the water hose, but he forgot to put the drain back in. Then I washed me a load of clothes because I hadn't washed clothes for a while because I had a drain problem. When I drained the water out of the washing machine, it went all over the floor instead of going down the drain. I had to go and resubmit a new claim. I couldn't reopen the old claim because their response was, the technician said it was fixed. But they did not charge us for the new claim. And that claim has now been 30 days since that guy was there. The part that he was supposed to order to fix it is on indefinite backorder.
I have reached out five times and my wife reached out many times. We could never get anybody on the phone at American Home Shield. I was able to communicate via the chat box and speak to a representative via the chat. Two separate times, they promised me return calls, but I never received a return call. Yesterday, I was told that they spoke with the technician and they're waiting for the technician’s report. But the technician told us that they've submitted the report three times. I have no idea what's happening and I am at the point where if this case is not resolved in the near to immediate future, I will be contacting the Attorney General's fraud division and making a fraud claim against American Home Shield for failure to pay out the policy that we have. We had a leak issue, which was what drew us to our most recent claim to American Home Shield. We changed the water valve on our water heater and it started to leak. My partner installed it, and within about a week, it started to leak again. So he said, "Well, rather than me touch it again and really mess something up, just call AHS." So, we did. The technician came in. He was really nice and focused. He listened to what I had to say. He understood what the issue was, and he immediately resolved it. The situation was that my partner didn't tighten the valve well enough. It was no longer leaking from the front of the water valve, which is where the initial leak started for us. That indicated that the unit has somehow been undermined. So, this gentleman turned it, twisted it, and moved it further into the threads, further into the machine.
He sat there for a couple minutes. He vacuumed up some pre-existing water that was on the floor and he watched it. Then he said, "Well, I'm gonna go to my truck and create an invoice for you. And then when I come back in, we'll look at it again to make sure nothing is leaking." And he did that. He went to his truck for five minutes, created an invoice, came back, got down on his knees again, used the flashlight, observed the unit to see if anything had changed, and it was completely dry. We've not seen a drop of water since.
When I called American Home Shield, I got entangled with the electronic voice control system. It was giving me a whole series of options and I kept saying, "I'd like to speak with an agent, please." The machine went through the process and set an appointment. I called because I had previous experiences with some other plumbers that AHS assigned to projects, and they weren't good. I've learned that I can't just log in online and do it electronically on my own, which is what I prefer. But for this particular situation, I had to speak with an agent, and then they can override if the system is giving them someone that I don't want to interact with. Then they can find another service provider. Ultimately, the voice automated system scheduled an appointment with the very company I never wanted to ever see again. I stayed online on the phone until I got through to an agent, and explained to them what had happened.

I needed a new hot water heater, specifically on American Home Shield's end of things. I brought out a plumber before I became insured with American Home Shield. I was told I needed the hot water heater replaced. Home Shield sent out another plumber, and they told me I didn't need one but it was clearly leaking. I called and coordinated that. I was like, "Hey, it's still leaking. They got it wrong." So, they sent out Steven A. Mills free-of-charge. They were super kind. They did accidentally take my ADT water sensor for my home security. I'm currently coordinating with Steven A. Mills to replace that, and that's been easy, too. I set up the original appointment online, but I have a point of contact here in the local area. So when things went awry, I just hit him up and said, "Hey, can you help?" So, he did. I've recommended AHS to multiple people. For the price that it is, even the 130 copay to bring somebody out, it's still cheaper than replacing the item yourself.

The heater outside had thick frost in it and somebody came to take a look at it. The tech said it was normal when it gets too cold like it did that night so there was nothing wrong with the pump. I asked him questions about my thermostat because I couldn't see an emergency heat option on my thermostat. He had to Google search to see if he could set it up on my thermostat and he said it was not an option on the kind of thermostat that I had.
A few months after Covid, there was a leak in the shower that’s connected to the master bedroom and American Home Shield sent a contractor. I have two showers, one for cold and one for hot. The guy said it was better if I had just one valve because that’s what people have nowadays. I said okay and he started giving me a quote. He said it was gonna cost $700 out-of-pocket. I said American Home Shield’s not gonna pay for that and I don't feel comfortable. But by that time, the tiles were already damaged. I requested another contractor and I didn't get charged for that by AHS. The second guy didn't seem to know what he was doing and it made a bigger mess. He didn't fix it. So, AHS called another one. On the third one, I ended up paying more than my service fee of 125.
As a lesson from that, I just learned to Google first the contractor that AHS is gonna send. I have to choose because that's my money that I'm paying them. But it's not AHS' fault. It's also my fault because I didn't complain about the second contractor. It was COVID and I could tell he didn't know what he was doing and I was afraid he was gonna lose his job. I said I'll just get another contractor. So, I had to pay another service fee. And after the plumbing was fixed, I had to get somebody to fix the tiles.
Because I live in a condo, I’ve seen plumbers’ trucks come and go. I know the ones that are on TV. The customer service representative was telling me about the different contractors before I finally agreed on one contractor and I told the rep to at least get contractors that I am familiar with. I’ve never heard of the contractors that they were saying. So, I don't feel comfortable because I don't rely on Google search 100%. I've heard that there's another company that's cheaper, but I've been with AHS for four years. Usually, companies are just cheap in the beginning and then they slowly start jacking up their rates. So I stuck with AHS. It's all gonna even out in the long run. It would be nice if the price would be cheaper, but I understand everything has gone up.

The refrigerator was getting ice underneath the bottom and leaking on the floor. The tech knew exactly what he was doing and fixed it that day. He took the whole freezer apart. He was very personable and he did a good job. It was wonderful. If something breaks, I can call AHS and have somebody reliable come out and fix it. My cousin had American Home Shield and she was very satisfied. She had trouble with her refrigerator too.

I was with another company and I've had American Home Shield for maybe two years now. Right now, my microwave is still not fixed and they’ve sent someone out three times. It's supposed to be on review regarding when it would be fixed. But AHS responded to my calls for somebody to come out here. The techs didn’t talk as much but they were professional. Even though I don't have a solution, at least they're working on trying to get a solution completed. A lot of times, people get upset when it doesn't happen. We're frustrated because they keep sending someone out and they do the same thing and it's still not working. But as long as they keep addressing our issues, then we can go from there. I don’t like though that when I called outside of 30 days, I had to pay a portion for a second service call. The microwave wasn’t fixed before and AHS sent somebody out and it happened on Day 31. It was still the same issue but they wanted me to pay.

We had little bit of water stains in the downstairs half-bath on the ceiling after a hard rain. I submitted a claim online and they got back with me right away. Their website is very easy to use. It's very professional and it worked for me. The tech went went up on the roof and did a couple of things and secured the flashing. It was fixed.

My refrigerator wasn't getting cold. I submitted a claim online and their website was user-friendly. Then American Home Shield told me what company was coming out. The tech came out and checked my refrigerator. He did what he needed to do. The refrigerator is working fine now. American Home Shield saves me money. It's a very good home warranty company.
Thank you so much for the great review! If there are any other services you need, please visit our website ahs.com.

The contractors that they've sent have been fine. But sometimes it's hard trying to get fulfillment of particular contractors. I have to make a phone call out to figure out what the status is. When I was having some issues with my washing machine, I put a request in and they assigned someone. But I didn't hear anything back for a week. I called in and said that I haven't heard anything. They tried reaching out and they also didn't hear anything. So they reassigned me to someone else. My biggest issue is making sure that the availability of a contractor is there before you assign them to a consumer. Because my impression was if I'm doing this on a Monday, I should be hearing back from them on a Wednesday. Not having to reach out now a week later to figure out why I haven't heard anything.
From start to finish, it took about two weeks to fix the problem. Once the contractor got there, it took about five days because a lot of it was ordering parts that weren't readily available. The washing machine has been doing good, so far. But when I had a claim for the dryer, I had to put out three requests in a matter of six months before they replaced the entire thing. Before they did that, they would come out and replace the heating element. It would fix it temporarily. But the heating element would go out. We had to put in another service request to have them come out. You have to pay that fee all over again because now you're outside of the timeframe. We went through that three times.
For the new refrigerators now, the manufacturers require the installers to have a certain type of valve above the floor. So we had to find our own plumber to sit there and put that valve in. Because when the contractor came out, they refused to deliver and install it because we didn't have the appropriate thing. But we were never told this by American Home Shield at the time that we were discussing it. So this last fulfillment portion for our fridge was the worst of it all because we're already paying high for the home warranty, and then we have to shell out more.
Dear Donna, I'd like to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I apologize for the difficulties you've been experiencing and would like to discuss this more. Feel free to contact me at consumeraffairs@ahs.com. Sincerely, Mariah
