My most recent claim with AHS was for heating. I did it online and it was an easy thing to do. The contractor showed up on time, cleaned, had all of his things... he knew what he was doing. He solved all my problems, took care of everything. Continue the good work, AHS!

To be fair, I've had good experience with American Home Shield, very satisfactory results most of the time. I had two homes with many, many good resolutions. So I like American Home Shield and would recommend them. But in the most recent claim I submitted for my Viking ice maker, I haven’t gotten a resolution on the issue. They sent out a representative from a company and then the company did what they did and then all of a sudden, it was taken away from them saying that they were not authorized by Viking factory. So they sent somebody else out and I’m still waiting. It’s a month later. Not right.

It was quite easy to make a claim with American Home Shield. We were faced with having an electrical issue to be fixed before we got our furnace fixed so that was kind of a surprise. When we got a hold of the people to come, there was no problem. They've been pretty on the ball especially when it came to asking the right questions when it was our heat and then they knew the temperature of the area. Its terrible when it's on a weekend for anybody. We had to wait until Monday. That wasn't so pleasant. I would recommend them but I will give it a 4.

It was last week that I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. The problem was our built-in microwave oven combination; the electronic panel wasn't working right. It went unbelievably well. It was GE Services who they sent out. They were here quickly and they diagnosed the problem quickly. Unfortunately, they said the oven had died... We've been using American Home Shield for quite a few years, and they're not always at the top of the list but they not only found a replacement, they suggested it in record time. It was exactly what needed to be replaced and it's already delivered in my garage. Wow! It's not only there, their contractor is set to be here tomorrow to install it. They exceeded any expectation I have. They were responsive and fast.

I had a problem with my washing machine. I called American Home Shield and they said that they were going to have somebody out there to do it - and they did. The technician called back and said that it needs an overhaul and it’s going to cost either 700 and something dollars or 500 and something dollars to repair it. The technician also asked if I just wanted to get another one, they can send a check with that amount. And that’s what happened. American Home Shield is very customer-oriented. They keep you informed, and everybody was really nice about it. I got my Home Shield extended.

I'm totally happy with 17 years of having American Home Shield. That should speak volumes. I'd recommend it to anybody. It's the only warranty I buy. This warranty we bought was the smartest thing we've ever done. One thing I wish they would consider is to give people that have been with them 15-plus years a lesser deductible. Each year, I know it keeps going up all the time, but for us that have been with them it started out $35-45. Give us a cut. Give us $50 instead of $75. We've proven to be loyal, why not be loyal back?

We have three properties with American Home Shield and I usually submit a claim online, which is pretty convenient. Recently I submitted one for a broken microwave and the only kind of hiccup I had was there was a bit of a miscommunication between the contractor and American Home Shield about whether or not I paid. I had to call them to straighten that out but it has been rectified pretty quickly once I brought it to their attention... Only other thing besides that was, on the third contract I set up online, where you can actually sign up completely without even talking to anybody and they send you a confirmation email telling you when your contract becomes valid... there’s something like a two-week waiting period. But when I called on the day they said that my contract became available, they told me my contract wasn't available for another two weeks.
Maybe the confirmation email had sent too early a date or there were logistical issues... but I sent them the confirmation email and said, "In black and white, you told me this is when I could use you guys." It took a couple of hours to convince them of that. The only time that happened was this past time, when I did it all online. So maybe that was what the problem was... Anyway I always recommend AHS because so far we've had some really good experience with them.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for over seven years. I've had very positive experiences submitting claims. They are very proactive and follow-up is very good. They make sure that when the order was sent out to a service provider that they contacted me. They monitor how long it took for me to be contacted and if I was happy with the service and if everything is okay when it's been done. It has all been good. I've never had a contractor that I had known before because they come from different areas, but I think that they're all perfectly fine. Whenever I call them out, my experience has been that they've been addressed and corrected accordingly. They have good follow-through, and I'm satisfied with the results.

American Home Shield reps who attended our claim was good. The contractors that came for the refrigerator were here a week and a half before that to find out what the problem was. A part had to be ordered. The man that came was not a bit friendly and he was not very helpful. And he could have gone down and picked up the part the same day and fixed it but he didn't want to. He said he'd have to order it. My husband heard him say that. After the part came in, the man they sent was different and he was very nice, very good.
A couple of times when I've called to find out the status of our request, they'd asked for some number. When I call in to make the request for service, they've never given me any number. Then when I called to find out the status, they always said well they can't give me the status if they don't have the case number. But other than that, we've had good luck with AHS.

I have been an AHS customer for over 10 years. Up until the last year or so, AHS has provided an acceptable product for the money. In the last year, the service has taken a definite turn for the worse. During a heat wave last August, the fan motor on the outside unit of our A/C went out. I contacted AHS and was told a repair service would be dispatched from a town over 120 miles away! I contacted that repair service and, no surprise to me, was told that they would not be able to get to us for 3 days! If you've ever been to South Louisiana in August... I don't need to tell you, IT'S FREAKING HOT! I called AHS back and told them this was not acceptable and they basically said, "Sorry, you'll just have to wait. The temp doesn't qualify as an 'emergency'!" I contacted a local A/C repair service and they came out within 2 hours and had the A/C up and running in no time. AHS denied my request for reimbursement (!) I sent AHS.
In February of this year, I contacted AHS and told them I was making the final payment on my mortgage and that I wanted to set up payment of my AHS service direct via credit card rather than through my mortgage escrow account. "No problem" and they took my credit card info. On April 1st (no fooling!), AHS contacted me by phone and said my contract had been cancelled and they wanted to sell me a new contract - a much more expensive contract, of course. I told the rep that my current contract did not expire until June and that I preferred to keep it in force until then; I was told that was NOT AN OPTION!
After nearly an hour on the phone and speaking with at least 3 different AHS reps, I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor. I was told a Supervisor would call me back within 24 hours. That was 2 days ago and I haven't heard anything from AHS. ADIOS, AHS! If anyone asks me, I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using AHS. They are not the company they once were.

I was happy with the outcome of everything being fixed by the contractor sent by American Home Shield. But it ended up costing me over $600 and if we had hired our own plumber to come out then he would not have charged us that much. But it's like we were right in the middle of it. And thank god, our son was a contractor here, was able to jump in and do a lot of it or it might have cost us even more. I was unhappy with the amount that I had to pay. It was because of the plumber that was sent here by American Home Shield.
The very first time I had someone come out to look at our oven, all he did was keep shooting his laser at the oven saying, "Oh, all ovens are different temperatures at different places in the oven." We didn't have anything to compare it to. So we just have to believe him. And so finally, we found out that the variances that he was giving us are not accurate at all and there is no problem with the oven. So now, I haven't been happy with the two things AHS had come out for.

When the gentleman from Sears came out, he said, "Okay, we're going to order the parts. And when the parts come in, I'll be back to fix it." Nobody had told me and all the parts got shipped to my house. And I can't remember if it was somebody from Sears or American Home Shield that I talked to who asked if all the parts were here, and I told them I had no idea. I'm not the repairman and I don't have any clue what kind of parts he ordered. And they said, "Well, you're going to receive five different parts. You need to make sure they're right." How in the heck will I know if they are right? I don't have any clue what they ordered but apparently, it was the right parts. I think somebody should have called and said, "The parts are coming to your house. This is what they will be." Even if they had told me what they'd be, I probably wouldn't have known what they were. And then, if there's anything that needs to be done, they have to call and get permission to do it. So if I had any issues, it's not with the contractors they send, it's with their whole flipping, time consuming, wasting system. They need to streamline that.

I waited about 6 wks to calm down and call back and talk w/ their auth. spec. and achieved nothing. I called the Corporate Ofc of ** and left msg for ** to call me. I'm waiting to see if he calls back before I finish this. His company mission statement states that his company's success begins w/ the customer experience. So in fairness, I'll give him a chance to make it right before I decide how to end this blog. PS: The rating below is how I rate both AHS and Efficiency Experts AC right now. However, I will be happy to possibly change this after we talk.

I have called customer service on probably 9 occasions to try and resolve ONE single problem. I first called in about an issue with the water heater over the summer 2013 and was granted an "outside authorization" to hire a plumber on my own, because they didn't have any in the area. The plumber came and made the repair on August 1st and billed “me” for the work. 4 months later, I still had not received a reimbursement check.
Here is a summary of my phone calls: Called to report problem with water heater on approx. July 14, 2013. No response from AHS after 1 week, called again. At this point, I received a call saying I was approved for outside authorization, but had no instructions on how to apply for reimbursement. I called customer service to clarify, and they had no record of me having an outside authorization! Transferred me to a rude and unhelp service rep which ultimately went nowhere. Called Corporate office and was finally granted outside authorization after threat of a BBB complaint.
Called again to clarify instructions for receiving reimbursement, where to send invoice, etc. Was finally given the correct info. Called to get status of reimbursement, rep said the check was in the mail. Verified correct mailing address. Called again approx. 1 month later, said the check was sent to wrong address. Transferred me to accounting dept to stop payment & reissue new check. Called again approx. 1 month later, rep said the check was in the mail. Verified correct mailing address.
One month later, and at this point, I still have no check. I am beyond angry and frustrated with this company. It seems obvious this is just part of their business model, to withhold reimbursements. They quite possibly have the worst customer service I've ever dealt with! At this point I advise anyone considering this company to AVOID AT ALL COST! After the investment of time just to get service or reimbursement, it makes more sense to just pay for the repair yourself.

My furnace went out. I came home from work one day and our house was cool. I didn't think a whole lot about that because I keep my house cold. I got ready to go to bed and it was still cool. I went in there and it wouldn't kick on. It was trying to kick on but it wouldn't. It had burned something off on the igniter and I got hold of American Home Shield and they got a serviceman out here the next day. I was without heat overnight but the next morning, they were here. They were very nice. They told me if I had't heard anything, to call back and I did about three times because it was late at night and it was cold.
We had an ice storm here but they got here as fast as they could and as soon as the heating place opened up, they called me and had a guy out within 30 to 45 minutes. So everything went fine. The contractor was fantastic. You couldn't ask for any better service. The men had done the job and left. The only thing I don't particularly care for but can't do anything about is the hundred-dollar deductible I have to pay. It's a little high but that's just the way life is. So far, I'm pleased. American Home Shield has got good customer service. I've been with them for 5 years. In the last two claims, I had Bullseye to fix my furnace and Cornerstone to fix the water heater. Both companies are very professional. We had a little problem years ago with the furnace people, but they switched over to Bullseye and they were very good. They came in and straightened out the problem. Most recently, I saw water all over my garage. It was the water heater. I called and they were very good and courteous. They sent Cornerstone Plumbing. They came in, took it out, replaced it, and the next day they had to come back because it had something with the air. It got too cold up here so they changed things around. The builder that put in the water heater had screwed it all up. They had to change pipes in there and rearrange everything. They straightened it all out eventually. I've never had any major problem with them at all. Everybody they ever did send over was very professional and knew what they're doing.

This is my first time working with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for air conditioning. It started probably a week or so before I called because it was hot and we had the air conditioning on. The condensation poured out onto the floor. And then we left the country and of course, the weather was cold so we just turned the unit off. We came back, turned it back on, and the same thing happened again. So then we called. I reached someone on the phone. For some reason, I had difficulty doing the online service request. Something was set up incorrectly. When I talked to them on the phone, I think they have corrected it but I'm not sure. I haven't tried it. They were friendly on the phone.
They came right away and he didn't seem familiar with the particular type of unit but he was very thorough and found what he thought was the problem. So far so good. Everything’s been fine so far. We've had American Home Shield for several years. We can submit a claim online, which I have done, or we can do it by phone. I usually do it by phone and I find them to be very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Last claim I submitted was just a couple of days ago. The water-return found in the back of the bowl never fills up with water. They came in and replaced it. It went fine.
Generally, they are very good. They’re worth the insurance. They’re worth the program. Although some of their vendors I’m not really sure about. As an example, we had a plumbing leak about a year and a half ago. Vendor came in and replaced a wax ring under the toilet seat that affixes to the pipes, and it seemed fine and he left. We had to go away and were gone for a few days. We came back and there was a major leak. What the guy had failed to do was inspect the toilet itself, and the toilet had a huge crack in it. So it leaked all over the place and we had to have a major rework done on the ceiling over the garage because the toilet sat above that.
The vendor paid for it but it was a major inconvenience and if I had to do things all over again I would take the time, which I will now do, to look up the vendor they send to me to make sure that they have good credentials as well, because they let you change vendors... We had a recent experience in our second home which was in Colorado where there was a plumbing issue also and they didn’t have anybody -- it’s a small town that we have our house in. They let me choose who I wanted to and I did and it worked out great.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield when my Viking refrigerator stopped cooling in January or February. We're hoping it's fixed now. They just came back this week and worked on it again. They came out a couple of times and then they talked with someone with Viking and they put in an inverter board. It was January the 31st. We thought everything was okay. Two weeks later, it started doing the same thing again and I called them back and they said it would be a recall. They assigned it to a different person because the first person wasn't available. It was in the 60-day recall period is what they said. On January 28, they replaced the part. We thought it was fixed. On February 21st, it started doing it again.
I called back in and they said that it was within the recall period so they assigned it to someone. It turned out to be a different person. That person was supposed to have come out and he didn't show. I called him back and he said that he was not experienced with working on Viking and decided that it was above his head. So they reassigned it back to the person that worked on it the first time. He came out on March 5th. Calls were frozen up again and he had to order the part, and he came back out Monday and put the part on and hopefully, it's working. I really like the guy who did the work. He did a lot of research. Vikings apparently are not easy to work on and there aren't a lot of people who have any experience doing it.
This fellow has apparently been in business for a long time and he did a lot of calling, speaking with Viking, trying to figure out what was going on so I was very happy with him. It took a while to get everything taken care of but I think he did the best he could. It took a while to get parts in and then he was coming from a different town. I'm still happy with the way he did things. I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

I continued this plan after a year paid for by my real estate agent when I purchased the house. The sewage ejector pump for my rental below me stopped working. I explained at the time the pump was outside. AHS initially assured me it was covered. After a "technician" came out and called AHS to explain it needed to be replaced they stated they wouldn't cover it. Apparently there is a clause in the contract stating they only cover things within the foundation and because the pump was 2 feet outside the foundation of the structure it was not covered. So read and memorize every little clause and fine print in your policy before you sign and rest assured there will be NO exceptions, even one like this which makes absolutely no sense.
I see no point in continuing with this service and will be canceling it. I would rather put the money into a savings account for repairs. Even if something major like a furnace goes, I feel pretty confident they would nickel and dime it to death and you MIGHT be able to get a bottom line replacement. If you're not willing to settle for semi-competent "technicians" (I believe they send the bottom line quality workman out), frustrating negotiations on every item, and bottom line replacement parts and appliances....STAY AWAY. The experience of customer service when I asked for explanations as to why that is in the contract was also frustrating. I was just told, "It's clearly in the contract and you signed it". And they are absolutely right, and I'm also sure there are other "exceptions and loopholes" for them to escape covering things in my home. So I am done with this company.

With American Home Shield, you would usually put in your service request and the contractor calls to set up an appointment. They set up a time and call you before they are on their way. If there is any ongoing issue and they have to come back out, then the contractor resets a schedule. In this particular case repair, I had to contact the contractor for the appointment. They did not call me before they went on their way out to do the repair, although they did it in a time frame they were going to be there and they were there during that time frame. Then they said a part had to be ordered for the repair. I had to connect with them and follow up with them time and time again about the whereabouts of the part and when my new appointment was going to be scheduled. They came out and assessed the damage by cutting a hole through my ceiling for a pipe that was leaking that they have not been back to fix yet. There are some other things they do very, very well. But I'm looking at a big hole on my first floor that they cut about four weeks ago and no one has been back out to address it. I didn't receive any response so I called the next morning and finally got a hold of someone. Finally, some contractor called and got it fixed right away. He was very good.

For our furnace I was a little disappointed they couldn't get somebody out sooner, but they did offer me the opportunity to use someone else, so that was nice. When they couldn't fix my stove, they gave me a settlement on that and I thought that was very nice. They were fair and they followed through.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield went fine, our air conditioner now works fine, but the contractor they sent wasn't very good. He didn't know what he needed to do. He didn't get the approvals correctly and had to come back. And by blowing all of the air conditioning dust all over our bedroom, everything up in our bedroom's a mess, so we had to clean all of our beddings.

The whole thing was written up wrong because the American Home Shield lady wanted to send Sears to come and look at the washing machine and I kept trying to tell her it was a plumbing problem. They got Budget to come but the man didn't bring the right things and I had to call somebody else because he said the pipe was busted outside. And it wasn't really because when this other plumbing company came with the camera, he went out and unclogged the plumbing.
If the lady would have listened to me, she would have never had Sears try to come. I ended up paying Budget and the man who came this morning who said the pipe was broken from the outside and we needed to get somebody who took pictures of pipes. So when we called the city and the man they recommended came, he didn't even need the camera because he just went out to the front and unplugged and unstopped it.

When I purchased my home 13 years ago, it came with a home warranty, what a life saver. I recommended this company to everyone including my current boyfriend who has used the service twice. In the past 4 years, I have seen a decline in both customer service and the technicians dispatched to repair your items. In one instance at my boyfriends home, a repair was needed and the technician ordered the incorrect part, after we had waited a week for him to come the first time. My boyfriend would not let them back in the house so they then sent Sears after another week and it was fixed shortly thereafter.
The next repair was on his oil furnace, which is in the contract to be covered but the service technician said it was not so we paid him out of pocket and it was still broken, here is the kicker..he was supposed to email a receipt, a common practice and we got an email from AHS saying my boyfriend still owed the deductible. The crazy thing is..the service guy didn't fix anything, not a thing. We both cancelled our policies because in trying to explain this to AHS, they sided with the technician.
I have no reason to lie. I had to actually pay someone else for the repair and I didn't ask them to pay me anything. I just did not care to continue their increasing bad service. I haven't had anything repaired in my house for years, so they have just made at least 2400 just off me alone. I never minded that for the piece of mind, but when paying for something is no longer giving you what you seek from the product and actually causing you problems why pay for aggravation? On top of that they auto renew and when you cancel, they send you collection notices, no matter what your circumstances, how dissatisfied you are, or the fact you didn't ask for the service and informed them you were going to suspend service. They are not in my opinion the company they once were, not by a long shot.

We've been satisfied. with American Home Shield. We've had no problems with the plumbers that they sent. They did a good job. The first claim, our garbage disposal went up and the man came and he said the only thing to do was to replace it so he brought two, because we said we thought we would like to upgrade. He brought an upgrade and replaced the disposal. And the next week or so, we were using our dishwasher and the water didn't empty out of it. We'd never had that problem before so we figured it was related to the garbage disposal.
We called American Home Shield and they said because it was within 30 days, we would not have to pay the $75 service charge and they would send the plumber back out. He came back out and in installing it, apparently a little piece of debris got caught in the part where the dishwasher empties into the sink with the disposal. As soon as he corrected that, we've had no problem with the dishwasher or the disposal.

I feel after trying to use my home warranty numerous times AHS to address problems, AHS dispatches the most incapable service man I had ever seen. After coming to my house and charging me, nothing, I mean, nothing has ever been fixed correctly. After contacting the company about my issues, it seems the operators care less than the serviceman. I work extremely hard for my money and cannot afford to give it away especially to a company that is suppose to have my back. Stay clear of this company. I recently had one of my HVAC systems needing repair. After notifying AHS and a technician diagnosing the problem, AHS said I would have to pay $3,255 and they would pay $569 because the coil leaked. This is because they wanted the entire system replaced but would only pay for the least expensive portion. So the warranty company I've had for 5 years agreed to pay about 17% of the cost and require the customer to pay the remaining 83%. They would only cover the system if the entire system was replaced. Something is definitely wrong with the math to me.
After doing some research, I found out that if the entire system is replaced, it falls under the manufacturer's warranty. According to the AHS contracts, customers must go through the manufacturer for any repairs when items are under a manufacturer's warranty. Thus AHS would bear no cost until the manufacturer's warranty ran out. This to me this is a dirty tactic.

American Home Shield stated they only cover the $32 dollar door opener if they go bad. I was told I could expect my policy any day. I have no real issues submitting claims with American Home Shield whatsoever. They're very easy to do online or even when I call, if there's a problem with the website. Usually the contractors are pretty decent. The last one that they sent was awesome. In and out in about 20 minutes. I've only had one issue with them, and it's one of those things that I don't think they're going to cover because of the fact that it is so hard to diagnose here in Phoenix and I'm pretty much hosed on it because they're not going to take responsibility for it. But other than that, I've been totally happy with everything they've done.

I live in Washington State and we had freezing temperatures. All of a sudden, the furnace wasn't quite working right. I set my thermostat at 68 degrees to try to keep the house warm and it wouldn't go above 63 and the furnace was running non-stop, it wouldn’t turn off. So obviously there was something wrong there. When I submitted the claim, I did it through American Home Shield’s automated phone system. I tried getting online but there’s something wrong with their website; it wasn't working right. But filing it through the phone system was really easy and simple and I got a call back within four hours from the actual service company, so it was a pretty easy process.
After they serviced my furnace, it seems to be working great. The technician knew what he was doing, it was a simple fix and he fixed it, and I’m really hoping that when it comes around, the house would be warm. Actually I've had two experiences with two different contractors all within the same week, and I have to say that they have a really great list of contractors, and the contractors appreciate the relationship with American Home Shield. It was very nice to see they wanted to make sure it was taken care of. Now this plumbing guy went out of his way to make sure that it was taken care of and resolved all in one visit, when most companies would have rescheduled. That overall is a pretty great program. They were friendly, efficient, cost-effective.
