I had two claims with American Home Shield. I had the microwave and my heater. The microwave had been broken once before and they replaced the control panel and then that's what went out again. They replaced it again. They came out about a month ago and fixed the heater. Now it's broken again. I'm waiting for a guy to show up again today. All the contractors have been good. I've had them for many years. They're fine. I'm very satisfied with them.

American Home Shield has got good customer service. I've been with them for 5 years. In the last two claims, I had Bullseye to fix my furnace and Cornerstone to fix the water heater. Both companies are very professional. We had a little problem years ago with the furnace people, but they switched over to Bullseye and they were very good. They came in and straightened out the problem. Most recently, I saw water all over my garage. It was the water heater. I called and they were very good and courteous. They sent Cornerstone Plumbing. They came in, took it out, replaced it, and the next day they had to come back because it had something with the air. It got too cold up here so they changed things around. The builder that put in the water heater had screwed it all up. They had to change pipes in there and rearrange everything. They straightened it all out eventually. I've never had any major problem with them at all. Everybody they ever did send over was very professional and knew what they're doing.

We've been working with American Home Shield for the last six or seven years. Recently I submitted a claim for the dishwasher. They took all the information and immediately got somebody to come by and service us. We had no problems with the contractor. He was quite a gentleman and knew what he was doing. They're dependable. If we have a problem, they come and scrutinize it. The only problem I had was that we've got two to three refrigerators and they said they only service one. That's in the kitchen. Apparently, they will only service one refrigerator, one stove, and stuff like that. They are good.

This is my first time working with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for air conditioning. It started probably a week or so before I called because it was hot and we had the air conditioning on. The condensation poured out onto the floor. And then we left the country and of course, the weather was cold so we just turned the unit off. We came back, turned it back on, and the same thing happened again. So then we called. I reached someone on the phone. For some reason, I had difficulty doing the online service request. Something was set up incorrectly. When I talked to them on the phone, I think they have corrected it but I'm not sure. I haven't tried it. They were friendly on the phone.
They came right away and he didn't seem familiar with the particular type of unit but he was very thorough and found what he thought was the problem. So far so good. Everything’s been fine so far. The performance of the air conditioner now is much better. The person I talked to went out of her way to make sure my problem was addressed. I just cannot express that enough.

We've had American Home Shield for several years. We can submit a claim online, which I have done, or we can do it by phone. I usually do it by phone and I find them to be very helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Last claim I submitted was just a couple of days ago. The water-return found in the back of the bowl never fills up with water. They came in and replaced it. It went fine.
Generally, they are very good. They’re worth the insurance. They’re worth the program. Although some of their vendors I’m not really sure about. As an example, we had a plumbing leak about a year and a half ago. Vendor came in and replaced a wax ring under the toilet seat that affixes to the pipes, and it seemed fine and he left. We had to go away and were gone for a few days. We came back and there was a major leak. What the guy had failed to do was inspect the toilet itself, and the toilet had a huge crack in it. So it leaked all over the place and we had to have a major rework done on the ceiling over the garage because the toilet sat above that.
The vendor paid for it but it was a major inconvenience and if I had to do things all over again I would take the time, which I will now do, to look up the vendor they send to me to make sure that they have good credentials as well, because they let you change vendors... We had a recent experience in our second home which was in Colorado where there was a plumbing issue also and they didn’t have anybody -- it’s a small town that we have our house in. They let me choose who I wanted to and I did and it worked out great.

We've been with American Home Shield for several years. We were with another company prior and it was nothing but bad luck all the way. With AHS, we are 100% satisfied and the representatives and the service people (mostly local) who come to the house are all wonderful. I have no complaints whatsoever. I would recommend them any opportunity that I have. We have recommended them to many people who subscribed because of our referral.

My most recent claim I submitted with AHS was for a plumbing problem. It had been leaking ever since I had moved into the place and it was just getting worse. The contractor that AHS sent me was very good. He didn't have the part he needed and he had to go out and get one which was fine and he came right back. And then there was still some other problem and he said he's going to have to come back tomorrow to fix that. My experience with AHS has been very good. I was a realtor for 25 years and almost all of my clients took American Home Shield.

I've had American Home Shield for years. My most recent claim was for a plumbing problem. Two days before I called, I tried to fix the clogged drain myself and I thought I'd fixed it but it kept coming back. Obviously, there was something clogging it that I couldn't clear. At that time, for whatever reason, I couldn't submit my claim online so I had to call the number. Normally, I have no problem with going online. I've had several claims before and have been happy with just about everybody that they sent out to me. The contractor they sent out to fix my clogged drain was very good. He even tightened up some stuff that I didn't know and didn't see. I was very happy. I recommend AHS to everybody.

I don't have any problems with American Home Shield. The few times that I have had to call them, they did send someone right out, and they fixed what needed to be fixed. There was one case where it was not related to what they could fix. In other words, there was a leak. But it wasn't in the pipes so it wasn't something they could fix. But they did what they needed to do, so I didn't have a problem.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield when my Viking refrigerator stopped cooling in January or February. We're hoping it's fixed now. They just came back this week and worked on it again. They came out a couple of times and then they talked with someone with Viking and they put in an inverter board. It was January the 31st. We thought everything was okay. Two weeks later, it started doing the same thing again and I called them back and they said it would be a recall. They assigned it to a different person because the first person wasn't available. It was in the 60-day recall period is what they said. On January 28, they replaced the part. We thought it was fixed. On February 21st, it started doing it again.
I called back in and they said that it was within the recall period so they assigned it to someone. It turned out to be a different person. That person was supposed to have come out and he didn't show. I called him back and he said that he was not experienced with working on Viking and decided that it was above his head. So they reassigned it back to the person that worked on it the first time. He came out on March 5th. Calls were frozen up again and he had to order the part, and he came back out Monday and put the part on and hopefully, it's working. I really like the guy who did the work. He did a lot of research. Vikings apparently are not easy to work on and there aren't a lot of people who have any experience doing it.
This fellow has apparently been in business for a long time and he did a lot of calling, speaking with Viking, trying to figure out what was going on so I was very happy with him. It took a while to get everything taken care of but I think he did the best he could. It took a while to get parts in and then he was coming from a different town. I'm still happy with the way he did things. I recommend American Home Shield all the time.

I continued this plan after a year paid for by my real estate agent when I purchased the house. The sewage ejector pump for my rental below me stopped working. I explained at the time the pump was outside. AHS initially assured me it was covered. After a "technician" came out and called AHS to explain it needed to be replaced they stated they wouldn't cover it. Apparently there is a clause in the contract stating they only cover things within the foundation and because the pump was 2 feet outside the foundation of the structure it was not covered. So read and memorize every little clause and fine print in your policy before you sign and rest assured there will be NO exceptions, even one like this which makes absolutely no sense.
I see no point in continuing with this service and will be canceling it. I would rather put the money into a savings account for repairs. Even if something major like a furnace goes, I feel pretty confident they would nickel and dime it to death and you MIGHT be able to get a bottom line replacement. If you're not willing to settle for semi-competent "technicians" (I believe they send the bottom line quality workman out), frustrating negotiations on every item, and bottom line replacement parts and appliances....STAY AWAY. The experience of customer service when I asked for explanations as to why that is in the contract was also frustrating. I was just told, "It's clearly in the contract and you signed it". And they are absolutely right, and I'm also sure there are other "exceptions and loopholes" for them to escape covering things in my home. So I am done with this company.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years and have had multiple repairs for the same heating unit with multiple companies through American Home Shield coming to fix the unit, so it has been an ongoing process with it being repaired. With American Home Shield, you would usually put in your service request and the contractor calls to set up an appointment. They set up a time and call you before they are on their way. If there is any ongoing issue and they have to come back out, then the contractor resets a schedule. In this particular case repair, I had to contact the contractor for the appointment. They did not call me before they went on their way out to do the repair, although they did it in a time frame they were going to be there and they were there during that time frame. Then they said a part had to be ordered for the repair. I had to connect with them and follow up with them time and time again about the whereabouts of the part and when my new appointment was going to be scheduled. It was an even more unusual situation than it had been in the past. I was very unsatisfied with the work done and with the process. I was not very happy with the service.

Overall, American Home Shield is pretty good. I have several contracts with them because I have rental properties. On some of them, my expenses have been very pleasant and on a lot of them, very complicated, especially if you have recall issues or if you need them to come back out to get a claim fixed. Right now, I'm having to deal with something where they worked on my primary residence. They came out and assessed the damage by cutting a hole through my ceiling for a pipe that was leaking that they have not been back to fix yet. There are some other things they do very, very well. But I'm looking at a big hole on my first floor that they cut about four weeks ago and no one has been back out to address it. I called, and they said they have to call the company and get back to me. I don't know if they called because I called the company and they said, "Well, we were waiting for the plumber to put the request order in for the parts." And evidently, he hasn't done that. A lot of things they promised would be covered, but when it comes time to use their service, the parts aren't covered. I'm very, very unhappy about the situation.

Yesterday, the ACES representative visited with my wife and said the door was fixed because it went up when you press the buttons. However, he neglected to see if the door would come down if you press the same button. He left without any explanation except to say the door now works... but he is very wrong and very sloppy in advising my wife incorrect information.

We will not tolerate this situation any further and our experience with you and Aces is very, very bad. They got Budget to come but the man didn't bring the right things and I had to call somebody else because he said the pipe was busted outside. And it wasn't really because when this other plumbing company came with the camera, he went out and unclogged the plumbing.
If the lady would have listened to me, she would have never had Sears try to come. I ended up paying Budget and the man who came this morning who said the pipe was broken from the outside and we needed to get somebody who took pictures of pipes. So when we called the city and the man they recommended came, he didn't even need the camera because he just went out to the front and unplugged and unstopped it.

When I purchased my home 13 years ago, it came with a home warranty, what a life saver. I recommended this company to everyone including my current boyfriend who has used the service twice. In the past 4 years, I have seen a decline in both customer service and the technicians dispatched to repair your items. In one instance at my boyfriends home, a repair was needed and the technician ordered the incorrect part, after we had waited a week for him to come the first time. My boyfriend would not let them back in the house so they then sent Sears after another week and it was fixed shortly thereafter.
The next repair was on his oil furnace, which is in the contract to be covered but the service technician said it was not so we paid him out of pocket and it was still broken, here is the kicker..he was supposed to email a receipt, a common practice and we got an email from AHS saying my boyfriend still owed the deductible. The crazy thing is..the service guy didn't fix anything, not a thing. We both cancelled our policies because in trying to explain this to AHS, they sided with the technician.
I have no reason to lie. I had to actually pay someone else for the repair and I didn't ask them to pay me anything. I just did not care to continue their increasing bad service. I haven't had anything repaired in my house for years, so they have just made at least 2400 just off me alone. I never minded that for the piece of mind, but when paying for something is no longer giving you what you seek from the product and actually causing you problems why pay for aggravation? On top of that they auto renew and when you cancel, they send you collection notices, no matter what your circumstances, how dissatisfied you are, or the fact you didn't ask for the service and informed them you were going to suspend service. They are not in my opinion the company they once were, not by a long shot.

We've been satisfied. with American Home Shield. We've had no problems with the plumbers that they sent. They did a good job. The first claim, our garbage disposal went up and the man came and he said the only thing to do was to replace it so he brought two, because we said we thought we would like to upgrade. He brought an upgrade and replaced the disposal. And the next week or so, we were using our dishwasher and the water didn't empty out of it. We'd never had that problem before so we figured it was related to the garbage disposal.
We called American Home Shield and they said because it was within 30 days, we would not have to pay the $75 service charge and they would send the plumber back out. He came back out and in installing it, apparently a little piece of debris got caught in the part where the dishwasher empties into the sink with the disposal. As soon as he corrected that, we've had no problem with the dishwasher or the disposal.

Stay clear of this company. I recently had one of my HVAC systems needing repair. After notifying AHS and a technician diagnosing the problem, AHS said I would have to pay $3,255 and they would pay $569 because the coil leaked. This is because they wanted the entire system replaced but would only pay for the least expensive portion. So the warranty company I've had for 5 years agreed to pay about 17% of the cost and require the customer to pay the remaining 83%. They would only cover the system if the entire system was replaced. Something is definitely wrong with the math to me.
After doing some research, I found out that if the entire system is replaced, it falls under the manufacturer's warranty. According to the AHS contracts, customers must go through the manufacturer for any repairs when items are under a manufacturer's warranty. Thus AHS would bear no cost until the manufacturer's warranty ran out. This to me this is a dirty tactic.

Usually the contractors are pretty decent. The last one that they sent was awesome. In and out in about 20 minutes. I've only had one issue with them, and it's one of those things that I don't think they're going to cover because of the fact that it is so hard to diagnose here in Phoenix and I'm pretty much hosed on it because they're not going to take responsibility for it. I set my thermostat at 68 degrees to try to keep the house warm and it wouldn't go above 63 and the furnace was running non-stop, it wouldn’t turn off. So obviously there was something wrong there. When I submitted the claim, I did it through American Home Shield’s automated phone system. I tried getting online but there’s something wrong with their website; it wasn't working right. But filing it through the phone system was really easy and simple and I got a call back within four hours from the actual service company, so it was a pretty easy process.
After they serviced my furnace, it seems to be working great. The technician knew what he was doing, it was a simple fix and he fixed it, and I’m really hoping that when it comes around, the house would be warm. Actually I've had two experiences with two different contractors all within the same week, and I have to say that they have a really great list of contractors, and the contractors appreciate the relationship with American Home Shield. It was very nice to see they wanted to make sure it was taken care of. My tenant's dryer stopped working. The contractor was good, but had a problem, however. American Home Shield has started a new policy in which they only buy parts from themselves. It is their internal system. So they will not buy parts from a supplier who has parts in the community in which they are doing business. It's not the way they were doing it before. The local supplier had the part but American Shield did not have it. And so American Shield called the manufacturer who said it would take two months to make it. And we had to go out and buy a new dryer while we waited for the manufacturer to make a new part and send it to the community in which the property was located. It was a very long process and unfortunate because the part existed in the community. Generally, they're quite good. But this policy is very restricting. And so plan A would be do we have it? If the answer is no, plan B would be to buy it from a local supplier who does have it. But they don't have that plan B in place. I don't know a hundred percent factually that it's their policy. It only seems like 85% because it has happened to me on two of my properties. It appears to me that is what they're doing.

I had a third contractor come out that recommended the same. AHS agreed to replace the air furnace. In Jan, the temps in VA were in the teens. The AHS approved contractor chosen to perform the work was rude, inflexible and would not estimate a date of repair.
When I inquired about additional out of pocket work to replace the air conditioner, the AHS chosen contractor abruptly stated they worked for AHS and they would not do any work that was not approved by AHS. When I called AHS to request, they contact the contractor to make the request. AHS said they could not nor was it possible to get another contractor assigned. My only other option given was the cash in lieu of for the repair. After the heat had been out for 6 days pending a decision, I was told the in lieu of amount would not be available for an estimated 2-5 days pending the order received.
Without knowing the in lieu of amount I accepted. I replaced the complete system out of pocket. Two days later, I was contacted about the in lieu of buy out and it ended up being $2,000 less than the actual cost to replace the air furnace. Given the freezing temperatures, I could not go without heat any longer waiting for the in lieu of payment amount. Additionally, AHS does not give an option to change a contractor once it has been assigned despite the lack of professionalism or service provided by the contractor.

I have a new washer and a new dishwasher. The first contractor sent to install the dishwasher didn't know what they were doing. They said they couldn't close off the water which was a lie. I had to pay a plumber and another $75 because the man that finally brought the dishwasher a week later said that was ridiculous. He could have turned this off. The plumber didn't change anything and just reached in and turned it off. I was really unhappy that the first guy was not capable of doing it. Of course their excuse was, "Well, they're not allowed to use any equipment." I said, "the second guy that came bent down and turned it off. That's no equipment. He didn't change anything." But American Home Shield is doing a real good job. The plumber was great and said sorry that I have to pay for this.
My experience with the second group that brought the dishwasher out was great. They cut my floor but I didn't see until after they left. That's no big deal because my kitchen floor needs replacing. I'm not complaining about that. But it took me two weeks to get the dishwasher when it should have taken 5 or 6 days. I did not call and complain to American Shield because it was out of their control at that point. I would highly recommend American Home Shield. They've worked with me on reducing the monthly cost because I only have 11 areas that need to be covered. They had a new lady who worked very well with me. It's been a good experience working with their employees.

The last time we had a problem, I was a little bit misinformed by the person that answered the phone at American Shield. It probably took a couple of days longer than I would have liked but it was during cold weather and our furnace had died. It took eight days for it to get fixed. However, they had to order a part. I called at about three o'clock Sunday morning which was when it died and was told that somebody would call me within the next few hours. However, that wasn't the case. It was Monday sometime before they called and they didn't come until Tuesday. They ordered the part Tuesday and it came Friday, and they put it in Monday. In the meantime, we lived on heat from a fireplace. This is during a very cold spell. I have no idea who it was that I talked to and she probably misunderstood my question about when they were going to be there, but the problem got solved.

I haven't had any problems with American Home Shield. They've been very responsive every time we have called. But the man that came out recently, because the thing was making a lot of noise, didn't really want to spend any time. He just basically stated that it's making a noise and the company didn't care if it's making a noise, as long as it's working. He didn't want to wait around till the noise would start again. He said, "I think it's just defrosting," but he just guessed at it. And he said, "If it quits working, call me back."

I called up American Home Shield about plumbing but just prior to that I had called about a slab leak. Initially it was a slab leak. Someone came out and did the job and then about a week and a half later, another leak surfaced. Of course I wasn't covered at that point because they had already expended the $1000 that is allotted for slab leaks. So when they put in the second request, it was for plumbing, but at that point what they did was tell me that they would send the person out to take a look to make sure it was a slab leak and if it was, that there was nothing they could do about it.
Everything about it was really good. They were courteous, they were prompt, they were informative, and patient. It was a really good experience. I'm satisfied with their quick response and their courteousness. They were professional and understanding.

I've been with American Home Shield almost 14 years. The most recent claim I made was for the dishwasher. I've had somebody out here over the years at least twice on that dishwasher. The contractor they sent out this time was fantastic. Some of their contractors are not too swift, like the one that we experienced with our refrigerator, but this guy was super good and nice and it went off really good. He also has handled my dryer and he did a super job with that. Some of these people in the past were bad. She offered another resource because the company that they initially had was already booked.
The contractor they sent out was a young guy. He knew what he was doing. He said the wires were loose. I wasn’t getting a full blast of it. He stayed a while and went over the whole system because he initially couldn’t find out what was wrong with it. And then he tested the wires, checked all the wires to make sure that everything was working properly. And he actually was able to make the heat go warmer. If they need parts, they all managed to go out and get them and bring them back instead of leaving me to wait. It's great and I prefer that. They are efficient and get the job done. Every time they come, they fix it right then and there. However, you can't request for a particular contractor. What could use some fine tuning is being able to request the same contractor because I already had this person in my home and they already know this piece of equipment. But it's a new contractor every time and that's a drawback. Other than that, they do an awesome job and even though it is a new person every time, they do well.

American Home Shield is good at fixing things. I submitted a claim with them for a swimming pool problem, which started last Friday. The ring over the hose and the filter together exploded and all the water leaked out. I called the service guy right away because he's done some other work on my pool before. I told him that it was the Jandy filter that needs to be ordered from California. He hadn't even gotten an authorization from AHS yet and he was already looking for the part for me. He got the part on Tuesday and put it on a Wednesday. Awesome! It's pretty good service there.
There's still another leak though and he has to get a part for that too. I have recommended AHS many times. The only time I ever got angry with them was when the A/C dies in the middle of summer and then they have to wait a week to get authorization. I understand that it has to go through the steps, but it’s kind of scary when people are passing out in the house because it’s too hot.
