    I had my Maytag washer for 20 years and I had a problem with it not wanting to agitate, so I called and set up an appointment for repair. When the repairman got here, he told me that he put a new belt on it. Was ready to go, he stayed here while I started my load. Then when it was to agitate, it made the awful noise again and then he told me that it would cost more to repair this old machine than to get a new one. He told me what I needed to do to get my replacement washer with American Home Shield and Wow it was just as easy as he told me - no hassle. It was not long and I had a new Maytag all paid for.     My hot water heater was leaking. I spoke with the plumber on the phone and explained the problem. When a tank leaks, it is surely in need of replacement. The plumber arrived at my home on Friday morning April 18th and said, "Yes it's Leaking. I have to get approval from AHS to replace it." Then he said that he would not be able to replace it until Tuesday. In the meantime during the night the tank burst. I could not arrange for an emergency replacement through AHS or the plumber. I was forced to make other arrangements.

    We are extremely happy with the coverage/service, with the exception of two issues - even if we know the solution due to previous visits, we have to wait for a serviceman to again evaluate the same problem and then we have to wait for the solution. The other is what we've experienced - a serviceman is coming next week for the fourth time in a few months for the same dishwasher; motherboards have been replaced. I believe the appliance should be replaced, however, we have been advised it can only be replaced if one visit exceeds the cost of the appliance. I believe the total number of calls within a specific period should be considered for replacement; AHS has spent more on fixing this specific appliance than it would cost to replace it.

    I have had to use this service several times since we purchased our home in 10/1/2013. The air con had trouble several times and you were prompt in getting service out to my home. Then I had an issue with the dishwasher, you send the repair persons out and well it took them a month and 4 times to come out but finally got it up and running, and the funny thing is the parts they ordered and I had to wait on, well they did not use any of them. They left them here. I do wish that Sears would get some better professionals to work for them. But as far as American Home Shield, Love the service and would recommend it to others.

    I have use AHS twice in one year. The first time was my kitchen sink. Because I called on the weekend they were not able to send a technician out until Monday. I had to call someone else because I was having out of town guest. To my surprise AHS reimbursed me the total out of pocket cost. The second time was within the past 90 days. My heater motor was making a loud noise. I called them. A tech came out the next day, advised me he was ordering a new motor and it was installed within the week. My cost was my co-pay.     I requested service. It took Two weeks to get the pool guy to answer my call. When he did he said he was on a roof in Montecito at "a really nice house with an amazing view." He said he couldn't help me right then and he would call me back later that afternoon. A week later I called him back and had to remind him who I was. He finally came out and diagnosed my pool issues. I paid him my $75 then got an email from AHS saying they were closing my claim because the plumber never submitted anything requesting authorization.

    I filed a complaint which prompted the plumber Tom to submit for authorization. Yesterday I called and let him know I have another pool company waiting on him to get my pump replaced. He said, "I have your new pump on my truck and I will be there today or tomorrow at the latest". That would be 4/30/14 or 5/1/14. It is now 9 PM on 5/1/14 and he has again been a no show. I have been generally impressed with American Home Shield. Not so much right now. I asked to fire this non-impressive contractor but was told by AHS I was stuck with him. Not impressed!

    Up to now your service has been great. But I called for service on my heating and air which is a water to air system. You informed me that the well motor would not be covered. This well motor is a vital part of the system and it will not work without it. It is part of the heating and air system and you would not cover same. It makes no sense to me.     I called today to cancel American Home Shield. AHS will only replace my sump pump with additional costs. Why are there always other costs when you pay $57.73 per month and a $75 service charge fee. I got nothing at all because they said my pipe to the pump needed replacement...an additional $450. This is appalling and I am awaiting a callback from your cancellation department.

    I had a multiplicity of problems with my previous home shield provider who I was with for over two years and never submitted a claim. When I needed repair work on a couple of item in my home, all I received from them was reasons why they could not honor the repair request.     I must say that I am very displeased with AHS. As a paying customer, I believe that I am wasting time with such a policy. I have over the past two years had 6 visits from technicians to fix washer and dryer. I recently asked, "At what point will this machine be replaced?" The answer was, "When we get word from the senior technician." The said technician has stated that AHS would never replace same. With my AC unit the persons said the new Freon or whatever is costly and AHS covers $5 and the customer $60-$65. Likewise the statement was "AHS would never replace your AC." I am dissatisfied with AHS and would never have friends or families buy such a policy.

    We have had an American Home Shield warranty for the past 9 years on two different homes. Our warranty was for a house in AL for 5 years and then for 4 years on a house in Texas. I would say I have had to call and schedule a repair maybe 5 or 6 times throughout all those years and I have always been pleased with not only the work done but the people who have come out to fix my issues. The very last time I used my warranty it was during the closing of a house we were selling. We had issues with the air conditioning units. Since I was out of state my realtor called a local company to find out what was wrong.

    They came out and said I had to replace both units for a price of roughly $5000.00. I told my realtor I needed to call AHS and use my warranty. The repair man AHS gave me to service the unit told me that the one unit was working perfectly fine but the other did need some repairs. I paid my fee for the service and saved myself from being ripped off by a local repair company. With AHS I have always felt confident I was being treated fairly and whatever the cost may be it is worth it for the peace of mind.

    We had a GE refrigerator that broke down back in February 2014. We had a technician come out and do a diagnosis, said the little drain in the back was iced up. He flushed it with hot water and left us thinking we were good for a long while. Well, the fridge died again a week and a half later and then again another couple weeks after that. Each time NOTHING was done other than being flushed with hit water. Each time we lost about $150 in freshly bought groceries. When we asked about the fridge being replaced, since they couldn't fix it, we got a bunch of "well, we would have to send a senior technician out..." Wait, you didn't think to do that after THE SECOND TIME??? The whole reason we had this policy was the peace of mind that if anything happened, we had this as a back up.     Receiving a replacement gas furnace was not difficult, although we were told we would receive a Carrier unit and didn't realize until it was installed that we had been sent the low end product line Payne unit. Our real problem was with the shoddy and unprofessional installation work of the contractor and the lack of interest and care that AHS exhibited in finding a remedy for us. As a result, we not only won't renew our contract with AHS at expiration, it's highly unlikely that we'll submit additional claims should anything in our home break down. The workmanship on everything we've had repaired or placed has been without exception unsatisfactory.

    Two of the stove burners on my 7 year old cooktop would not work and the glass top was cracked when I raised the top to check the burners. AHS replaced the stove with a selection of my choice.     I have a problem with my AC and AHS sent out a repair person 3 days ago. I was dissatisfied with the service the tech provided and spoke to AHS. The person I spoke to was very understanding and immediately set me up for a second opinion at no charge to me.     We've been loyal customers for years. Last year we had tried 6 months to get dryer repaired. Company kept no showing after they took initial payment. Then got electrician who left with live wires and used my toothbrush. Yes, we complained. The electrician was known by one of the repairman who was honest as he has very bad reputation. Most problems with Sears subcontractor, A & E. One man urinated all over my bathroom, literally, not missed toilet but peed on sink and tub. They said I had to have him back again. My dryer was scratched up and never came back for mechanical repairs. Washer took 5 months to get repaired, then they dropped us. Seriously?

    I paid my monthly fee every month for 5 years. We had one bad year with many repairs, but please note that we were supposed to have moved out of this house but as we were moving our new home burned down. We weren't supposed to be here. We lost our new home then things started breaking here left and right. After their electrician came, used my toothbrush, didn't have his own tools, after that everything started breaking then they didn't renew us with 2 weeks’ notice. Not happy about the fact that we had a bad year to begin with to say the least, then they drop us. Dryer repair never done.

    Installation never happened. The company I was referred to couldn't find the request. After finally them finding the request, I was asked to send pics of cabinets and new microwave. I sent requested pics. Then was told they were running behind so scheduling hasn't happened. They finally called after a week after talking to them but being a school teacher during state testing I could not answer phone. When I called back they were closed til Tuesday (4/29).     I feel "We'll Fix it" was trying to pad their bill making false claims. My water heater never leaked, they claimed it was. Their representative was very rude to my wife. She did not want him back in our home. Now to the lousy service from American Home Shield. Since We'll Fix It padded their bill I replaced the water heater myself. The first AHS rep advised he was sending me a check for the 125.00 and other monies totaling approx 430.00. I get an email from Ms. **. I replied to that email but never got any type of call or email back. So the department that handles the refund claimed called and emailed I never got an e mail.

    When I called to that dept I spoke with Mike and he said I would not get any refund unless I had a licensed contractor fix the water heater. Well I had already bought and replaced the water heater myself since the first rep said, "Go ahead, we will credit the monies back to you." At first Mike said I was SOL but he agreed to the 430.00 refund if I faxed the receipts which I have without a call back. I use to swear by AHS even when they messed up my billing last year but I am now telling everyone to find another home warranty company.

I think it is very unfair for AHS to add the cost of the Freon to the initial service call. What has changed to make the consumer responsible for this additional cost??     We have been dealing with broken central air for about a month now. The original contractor that was sent out has been back no less than 5 times in the past month (3 of those times, there was no call ahead of time-even though we were told we would receive a call 30 minutes out to make sure we were home-luckily, someone just happened to be home 2 of those times).     I have AHS on a house I own that my sick daughter lives in. I have this coverage to make things easier for her. She cannot tolerate heat well with her disease, so when the air conditioning goes out or has a problem, I get on it right away. I think it took 4 times for someone to fix the problem last summer. This past March, we called for service and it took over a month to get it fixed. First the part ordered didn't work and it was finally decided to replace the unit or at least that is what I was told.

    I just "assumed" that the old unit would be replaced with one that doesn't require freon as we were told that we had to pay for it as it was being phased out. Why would you replace the unit with one that needed something that was being phased out?     I recently had an A/C unit that was freezing up. The repair guy came out and told me that my system had a freon leak and that it was low 2 lbs. AHS only pays for $10/lb of freon.     As far as getting somebody in the house for any repairs that I need, American Home Shield has been a great help. The problem with the heating started maybe two years ago. There was always one thing after another and it was another company. It just so happened that my bill continued to grow and it went to where it was too high, about $$400. I would call the company and they would come more than 30 days after the fact. One day it could be hot; another day it could be cold. My last repair in November, the technician told me that the issue was fixed, but the next two months, my light bill didn't change.

    I called the company back but they never responded. Then when I went with a separate company, the best company that I've had, Oxford, they showed me very obvious evidence that their work was left undone and there were cables not attached the way they're supposed to be. So that led me to believe that the other company would just come into my house with more problems and make another one so I would pay them again. I was so disappointed. I did my claim over the phone and I never had any issues with American Home Shield representatives. It was just that one particular company that came to my house.

    Our hot water heater started leaking last Friday. We called the plumber Monday because we had not heard from them and received an appointment Tuesday afternoon. The plumber confirmed we needed a new hot water heater but needed approval from AHS. They said we should hear back in a day. It is now after business hours and still no contact from AHS and no hot water. We purchased the best policy that they offered at nearly $700 for the past five years but will not be renewing. We could have had Ben Franklin Plumbing last Saturday and had hot water the same day.

    I've used American Home Shield several times through the years. Most recently, our upstairs heat wasn't running. It was the blower that had gone out. The serviceman was very good and very prompt. He came in and got the job done. A few years ago, Home Shield used a contractor that didn't fix our air conditioning. They made several trips out and added Freon to the lines but that wasn't the problem at all. The upstairs unit was leaking Freon and another company came out with a leak detector and detected that so they had to replace the unit. It has generally been good. When we've submitted a claim, they've gotten somebody on it pretty quickly. I also have a policy on another house. I've used them for five or six years and if I was dissatisfied, I wouldn't still be using them.

    We haven't had American Home Shield that long and this was my first time submitting a claim to AHS since becoming a customer. I did it over the phone and there were problems with the contractor because he told me that he didn't get the fax from them, and then I had to call back and the girl said, "I don't know why he didn't get it, I sent it." And then magically, he got it!

    This service call that we had was with the heating people. They were real smart ** guys. They were making fun of anybody who would go through AHS. You could tell he was an employee for that company that came through, and I can't remember how he said it, but basically I gave him the check and he goes, "Oh another satisfied American Home Shield customer." So if I were you, I'd either replace that company with another company or I'd have a long talk with him because he's a real jerk. He's not a good fit, I think. I already wrote all this up and sent it to them.

    Well, the second AC company (3 Brothers) replaced a capacitor and filled up the unit with Freon (although AHS, like most warranty companies, only reimburses up to $10/pound and Freon runs over $50-60/pound now that it's being phased out. Ran $400). The unit cooled for about an hour then quit again. We called AHS back and the first AC company (Royal) came back out 3 days later and fixed the unit. At least AHS waived the service calls for both visits. We did get a followup call from a different AHS supervisor (the first was rude) and she gave us a direct line in case of any problems--she was great. So the unit finally got fixed but it required a lot of calls and aggressive followup on our part. I got the impression that their contractors at much less enthused to service home warranty work than regular cash business--kind of like a bad HMO that already has your money.

    We got a free 1-year home warranty with the purchase of our rental condo in Houston with AHS - we will not be renewing it. We had a water heater leak and were unable to contact AHS on their "24 hour number" that night. We ended up fixing the heater ourselves. Just this week the AC unit went out AGAIN (after being inspected and "fixed" twice by their AC contractor). We called the AHS "24 hr" number Sunday night and got a RECORDING; the AC company did call us back directly the next morning and scheduled an appt, Wed between 1 and 6 and never showed up.

    After calling the AC company at 6 - who was then closed and not answering - we reached AHS who couldn't reach the AC company and told us we should call back in 30 min. After calling back my wife called AHS AGAIN and they finally reached the AC company right away (on a second number) and told us that their AC contractor said we were "never scheduled for an appt" -- despite the fact that the AC company CALLED US to actually schedule the appt and my wife called them back to confirm.

    We are now waiting to get a call back sometime tonight from an AHS supervisor (who was too busy to talk to us so we could only leave a voice message). So basically our tenants sat in the hot condo waiting from 1-6 for no reason and now my wife has been on the phone for 1-1/2 hours. TERRIBLE SERVICE, especially at $75 a service call. And how can a "24 hour" line not get answered? I guess they don't mean 24 hours in a row...

    American Home Shield is fine. The appliance people and the air conditioner people you all send are usually very good people, and I haven’t had any problems, but the plumbers they have in Midland is terrible.

    The contractor (Israel) showed up on February the 14th and said, “Yes, your hot water heater is bad. We have to get you a new one.” They called up American Home Shield, said they have to change the gas valve and the line to bring it up to code. I said, “That’s fine.” We made an appointment for him to come back and he never came back. I called American Home Shield and then he called me and apologized. He came for the hot water heater again (took us over a month to get a hot water heater in) and left the gas leaking! It could have caught on fire and burned the house down!

    I called AHS and they told me to call the emergency line. The contractor called back two and a half hours later and I was on my way back out of state. I drove in from out of state because my wife doesn’t want to deal with him because he won’t show up and he won’t do what he’s supposed to do. So, he’s supposed to come and fix it but he never showed. I just got tired of waiting on him and turned the gas off and left.

    He called last night at 8:30, wanting to know if he could come to fix our hot water heater because American Home Shield contacted him, and I said, “No!” I said I already paid another plumbing company to fix it. I called them 3:00 yesterday afternoon. They showed up, looked at it, said they’d be back in the morning. They showed up on time, replaced it and went, and we paid them...

    AHS reps are always very nice but one thing I didn’t like is they told me they’d put him on ‘do not call’ list for us and they’d give us another plumber, and then he called us. This is the fourth time we’ve had incidents with him. I’ve told him to his face on the phone, and I’m telling you all, that he will never step on one of my properties again. I’ve told the people I talked to today at American Home Shield "to make sure that those service calls are cancelled, and I’ll still put you all on another house." But that’s not happening, and I’ve got a renewal coming up (because we have 3 contracts with American Home Shield). We’re not dealing with your plumbers anymore.

    American Home Shield Warranty gets the "we suck" award of the year! Have been in our new home less than 2 weeks and ran a load of laundry. Now have full bathtub, toilets, shower and back up onto the floor, need I say "emergency". American Home Shield Warranty never called us back in 2 hours, four hours, six hours or 8 hours despite repeated calls and then the emergency number after hours. We ended up in a motel, couldn't use our water, toilet or shower, and now today they say they tried three plumbers and no one in our area? Are you kidding me?

    They didn't bother to notify us during our multiple calls ever that they ever contacted anyone and now say for us to find a repair person ourselves! Ha! Next I am going to the real estate office that sold us this warranty. What a rip-off it has been for us! Here we sit with no help, no customer service and their lousy excuse... we're busy! They should be held accountable for this shoddy service! Where do you go to file a complaint with them? 1-800-we-don't-care, that's who! Disgusted in Onalaska, WA and sitting in a house with no bathroom/drain facilities!!!!

    This review is lengthy and could be longer, but this is a true, honest experience we have had with AHS. We have had this service since we bought our home in 2002 with a brief 6 months back in 2005 when we didn't have them. We have called them out every summer for 12 years, sometimes twice and have called them out in the winter time as well. They send someone to do patch work on the AC units. We have two units in our home and both have had issue but the main unit is the one that has issues constantly.

    This past Tuesday, we came home to a hot house. We are in Texas and it's already hot here! I called AHS and spoke to a very rude agent...I was rude too afterward. I pay this bill every month for 12 years and pay every time someone comes out. They sent a company out on Wednesday. The company that came out stated it was the coils and it would need replacing as well as leaks etc. but the coils were clean. He then gave us a sales pitch for a new unit that they could install. We have kept this service for all of this time because we knew and they knew that these units are going to need replacing, not just patching up. And by the way, our electric bills in the summer run between $400 and as high as $1000 before. Our units are 1997 units.

    On Thursday, we received a call from AHS stating that our out of pocket will be $1500 and $600 of that is the freon, it uses R22. They stated that the company normally charges $60 per pound of freon but they saved me money by only charging $50 per pound!!! I asked them what are they paying for and how much they are paying but they claimed to not have that information. And to add salt to this, they said we could do a cash out and find our own repair person and they would pay us what they would have paid the company that gave us the estimate....that amount is $620 but you only get it when you submit the receipts showing the repairs have been done!

    I asked about canceling my service because I just bought all new appliance for the kitchen and laundry so I really don't need their service if they aren't going to pay for a new ac unit. They told me I would have to pay cancellation fees and penalties....my contract end June 26, 2014! We have wasted so much money with this company. The rates have gone up every year and the service fees have too. I also didn't mention that we had them to come out a few years ago to replace our garbage disposal. The guy comes out, uses a broom. It worked all of 3 days. I called AHS back and they said they would not send anyone else out nor fix it! We let that slide thinking our home was otherwise protected...NOT!

    We've been with American Home Shield for years. We made a claim for one appliance. Our interaction with the contractor was good and bad. The contractor came in. We had two complaints: one of them was the dishwasher and the other one was our stove. The contractor came in on the dishwasher and told us that there was nothing wrong with the dishwasher, that we needed hotter water, and we needed less soap. We've tried that and it’s not working the way it should still. He didn't seem to understand how to fix it. He said there was nothing wrong with it, yet it won’t clean the dishes properly.

    The other thing was on the stove. When he came in, we had to show him the problems with the stove, and he had a hard time understanding the problem. Then when we did show him the problem and he finally got it through his head what the problem was, then we didn't hear back from anybody. And so, we had to call to find out that he hadn't turned in the request for parts or anything to you people. We more or less had to run that rather than having them do it. American Home Shield is fine. There’s no problem with them at all.

    I had to fight the last time to get some service. My refrigerator was out. It was completely out, everything was melted. AHS gave me the name of the company, and then the company called and said when they would be able to come. It wasn't reasonable, based on the problem. So I called AHS back again, and the girl was able to talk them in to coming out that day so I didn't have to wait 48 hours. I don't know why they weren't able to come prior to her having to call them back, but I was grateful that they finally came that day and solved the problem.

    So it started out bad, but it turned out okay. The representative at Home Shield got the job done. She was able to call them, and then they were able to call me, tell me what time they would be here, approximately what time they would be out that day. They wouldn’t fix it because they said the part that was out on it wasn’t an integral part of opening the garage door and we had a disagreement about that. I understand and it wasn’t something that I felt was worthy of canceling my service over. Other that one disagreement on coverage, I’ve never had a problem with them. They’ve always done what they said they would and I felt like they’ve gone above board to take care of whatever problem we’ve had come up over the years. It’s been fantastic. I’m very happy with them. And I have recommended them to everybody that I know that is looking for a home warranty service.

    The heater quit working so I submitted a claim. The experience was good. The guy came out, was friendly, good, quick and explained everything that he did. My heater works fine now. Everybody that we've had so far for all the other time periods have been very, very good. They clean up after themselves. They also recommend other things that we might want to do to prevent any further problems.

    What I like about American Home Shield is they're fast about claims, and they have several contractors that they work with because we weren't too sure who we wanted. They have a list whoever they consider the top contractor. I recommend them all the time to friends, and that's how we got to know them (somebody recommended them to us). I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

    My experience with American Home Shield was fantastic! It started a couple of days before I put in the claim. I don't remember the exact date. A couple of days, I noticed that the dishes did not come out clean. So at first I thought I was over piling - putting too many dishes in, which I know how to do because I've been here a while. But then I thought I'm putting too much soap in or something's blocking it. I wasn't sure. So after washing the dishes over again over nine times, I realized that there was a problem with the machine.

    The kitchen got filled with a bunch of dishes. I got down to my last glass and my last fork and I called Home Shield. I believe it was a Saturday or Sunday. And it was wonderful because they were able to get me an appointment. I called them on Sunday, not knowing if they were open. I believe it was Saturday and they got me an appointment for Tuesday. The guy came here on time. He did an amazing job. And he did an excellent job in fixing it. He was on time and professional. He schooled me on a couple of things that I didn't know in regards to the appliances that he fixed. He told me exactly what he was doing. He was pleasant. He told me ways to save money in regards to the settings that I was using on the dishwasher.

    It was a great experience. I just have to call on one thing because I noticed something just recently. I meant to call today. Its the part where the water comes out, there's a piece that sticks out. Every time the cycle stopped, the piece sticks up where I cant pull the basket out of it. I didn't address that when he came because it wasn't an issue, but now I noticed every time the dishwasher stopped, when I got to pull out the basket, there's a round tubular piece that comes up. It protrudes up. It looks like its stuck in a certain position that it shouldn't be. So I have to call him to make it well. Called the customer service to see if I can have someone come look back out again because I don't want someone my honey or me to pull it out and replace that. But the dishes are definitely clean and I'm very pleased with the person who came and I hope that he'd be able to come every time because he was excellent.

    I've only used American Home Shield once to look at my dishwasher. I called them up and said the dishwasher was not running through quickly. The phone representative was great. They gave me the name of this guy who works with them. I called them up. He came over and I paid the $75 visitation fee. The contractor was a very nice man. He knew what he was doing. He helped me and it was done quickly. And it wasn't even a problem. It's a new machine, very complicated because it's got all this computer stuff and I wasn't using it right. So for 75 bucks, he gave me a lesson on how to use my dishwasher. It's working fine now. It was a good experience.

    I've had American Home Shield for about 10 years or so. I recently submitted a claim for my plumbing. It was constant leaking in my daughter’s bathroom. She had put a towel there to stop the noise. I looked at it and thought I could fix it, but I couldn’t. I called American Home Shield and what concerned me was when I called and offered up the problem, the gal talked to me and said it wasn't covered on my policy. So, I got on the internet and pulled up my policy. It said that it was covered.

    I talked with another person that said that it was covered and that she had been mistaken, and that they'd set that claim out and somebody would call me. But the gal that told me it wasn't covered didn’t know that problem was covered. Initially, I wasn't very happy and if I listened to her, I would have said okay and called somebody else and paid for it. The contractor they sent me did a good job. He called, he came in, he changed it and he was out within 10 minutes.
