I called on Tuesday and I had a repairman at my house the next morning. The problem was taken care of in a quick and efficient manner. I have had an American Home Shield home warranty on my home for two years now and it is worth the money and the convenience. I highly recommend American Home Shield!

Extremely pleased with the contractor who solved our A/C problem last summer. He paid particular attention to the white carpet he had to cross for the attic access and after fixing the problem, he did a maintenance check on the outside unit without being asked. Overall, the experience was one of the best I have had dealing with contractors.

I was in contract with AHS for approximately two years and this post is to explain my experience with this company. I left this company highly dissatisfied with just about all of my interactions with the company. I had one positive experience with the company and the other four engagements were all negative. My major complaints focus on customer service when things are not going well, quality of technicians dispatched to my home for repair, quality of explanation of situation, said technicians reported back to AHS and the contractual jousting with the company to receive service or a second opinion. In the end for my family and I, we found the cost to benefit ratio was no longer favorable and we chose to leave the company. I spent a great deal of money in fees and to purchase the warranty over the two years with the company and felt as though I received very little return in service and a great deal of headaches.

My garage door broke and I couldn't fix it so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. It’s been a positive experience. Usually, I call or go put my claim online, they transfer me to a local dealer and they call me within 24 hours. My interactions with the contractors have all been positive. They've been very professional, timely and got it done quickly so I've had no problems at all. The work was done within a week or two, depending on my schedule and not the dealer’s. I have to set something up after work or on the weekends and it’s worked out well. I was actually running late and they waited on me. Now my garage door is fine. It’s working perfectly.
We are happy to know that the electrician was understanding and professional! Thank you Linda for providing the positive feedback!

I had no problem with the service when he came. The last experience I had was with a clothes dryer repairman. The only problem I had was the appointment was set for a Friday and that morning I received a call from AMS saying THE repairman was sick and they had to reschedule the call. I understand people get sick but only ONE repairman? He was rescheduled for Monday. He was on time, very pleasant and took care of my problem beautifully.

I have been paying AHS for 9 years to cover my heat pump in case anything were to happen to it. Well, it did & they didn't cover it. Every summer I have been forced to leave my home for a hotel during the hot desert heat because it was not cool enough. Every summer I have called AHS & all they do is put a "band aid" on it & didn't fix a thing. This year when the loud noises started (enough to wake me from a sound sleep) I called them to look at the unit. When they came out, I paid them $75 for the guy to put rocks on top of the unit & nothing more. He told me it needed to be replaced & that AHS would NOT pay for it.
When I dealt with the company they have every reason imaginable as to why they will not replace the 24 year old unit. They told me they didn't care what the repairman said to me. AHS is a rip off and I could have paid for a new unit with the premiums I've paid for the past 9 years. Now I've paid for it twice since I had to replace it AT MY OWN EXPENSE! STAY AWAY FROM AHS!

The only claims we've made this year with American Home Shield are on our air conditioner and our water heater. We've had issues with the water heater for the last few years and noticed that in the morning, the shower was cold. We made the claim and they came out and replaced some parts on it, but this last time when they came out, we discovered that the water was running and the bottom had rusted out and flooded our basement. So they sent people out and put a new one in.
We called and made the claim, and at 8 or 9, somebody called me and made an appointment to come out here, and replaced it the same day, so I'm very pleased. With the air conditioner, there was something loose and it just needed a recharge. They fixed it right away and it works perfect now. The contractors have all been fantastic. We've had American Home Shield for about 5 years now and everybody they've sent has been wonderful. We've had some plumbing issues in previous years, and again, every person they sent was wonderful.

I had a policy with American Home Shield and I had a water blockage back in February where I could not get any water. They sent out a plumber who advised them that I needed all new pipes ran throughout. They refused and wanted the pipes blown out but this did not give me water flow. They charged me 2 service fees and 3 months without water. I lost my new tenant. I eventually had to pay an outside plumber to do the work which cost me 5k and they refused to reimburse me anything and only said sorry but it was nothing they could do because I went with someone else. The day I called to cancel my policy the only thing they offered me to try to keep my business was one free service call. I wouldn't refer this company to anyone.

I've had nothing but bad with this company........ My refrigerator door wouldn't close two days before thanksgiving. When they came I gave them $75.00 and they said it was preexisting, so they can't do anything about it. Then my jets in the whirlpool tub weren't working. They sent a plumber. I gave him $75.00. He said it wasn't a plumbing issue, then they sent an electrician. The electrician also charged $75.00 and pressed the light button. It went on, so he said it wasn't an electric issue. Then they sent the same A.J. plumbers. I said, "Why did you send them?" They apologized and said the jets are not covered by them (news to me). Now they're saying if I don't pay the plumber again, they will never send anyone else to my house.
So my one unit air conditioner wasn't working, so I paid the bill. They sent someone again, same story, it was preexisting. Well, why didn't anyone come to take pictures of my house before I paid them $1075 for the year because apparently now I pay them, pay an extra service fee, and pay again to resolve the issue on my own........ Pleassssse beware!

I filed in a claim to American Home Shield because the blower of our air conditioner worked but there was no cool air coming out. It was all hot air. I had a fine experience in submitting the claim. I didn't have any repercussions or anything. Everybody was friendly. The contractor that they sent out to our home was the same guy who came out and checked it out and repaired it.
When we were talking, he was telling what had to be done and so forth, and that it would be almost a week before it could be done. I said, "That won't work because I'm a heart patient." He goes, "Okay." The next morning, they called me back and said that they would want to know if it was okay for them to come out. It was 6:30, Saturday morning. I said, "Absolutely." So they were out on Friday, and Saturday morning, they were there and fixed it. The contractor was very nice and very friendly. I really would recommend them.

I had an issue with my air conditioner. AHS came out, added Freon, and went on their way. A couple weeks later, the same issue. No cool air. AHS came out again and added Freon (instead of repairing the leak)... You guessed it, again, the A/C quit working... no cool air. AHS said the unit was too old and needed replacing. Great...(should have been done the first time).
Once replaced, I continued to pay my monthly bill. I received a letter prior to my year end saying they were no longer renewing my contract due to too many claims! IT WAS THE SAME CLAIM FOR THE SAME A/C UNIT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM! I had been a 4 year customer, paid my monthly bill on time and faithfully, and this is how AHS treated me.

The coolant was either out or something was going on with the thing, because the outdoor unit was running non-stop but it wasn't cooling. Submitting the claim was fantastic and very simple.
Early one morning, after not going in the house to sleep because it was so hot and humid, they immediately called and told me that the person would contact me. That person called me within 45 minutes to schedule the appointment and they were at my house an hour later, so it was great. The contractor that they sent out to my home was very professional. He was the owner of the company. I got up in the attic with him and he explained everything that he was doing. He was very knowledgeable and very informative and told me exactly what was going on and how he was gonna fix it. Now, it's perfect and works great. The repair put our day-to-day operations at home back to normal. Overall, I would highly recommend it.

Vendor was contracted to evaluate/troubleshoot our HVAC system which was installed new just over 3 years ago. While the technician was troubleshooting the system, he was relegated to calling his superiors on several occasions for advice and guidance. We were told we had a bad circuit board. Contractors in the past have immediately notified AHS and explained the resolution to us prior to leaving the premises. This contractor just told us the problem and stated that AHS would notify us of the resolution.
I called AHS and they stated that contractor had not notified them and AHS would email the contractor the next morning. We called AHS, AHS (while on the phone with us) called contractor. We were told that contractor put AHS on hold. AHS then stated that they would continue to hold for contractor and would have contractor contact us. I received a voice mail from contractor stating that AHS denied the cost of the repair to replace the circuit board and that the retail cost of the circuit board was $975.00 and they could replace it.
I called AHS and inquired as to why I was not contacted directly by AHS and as to why cost of repair was denied. The service representative stated that AHS was told there had been an electrical circuit overload to the circuit board in question. I do not feel that this is an accurate evaluation because no breakers ever tripped in my home electrical panel. AC is working sporadically in Zone 1 (downstairs) and not working at all in Zone 2 (upstairs). The only 2 circuit boards associated with the York system is a Honeywell True Zone Panel (HZ322) and a circuit board in the air handler (S1-03109156000). Price of both of these circuit boards combined are under $300.00.
I have requested a second opinion thru AHS (I am well within the 7 days limit stated on our contract). I went in my attic to retrieve something and noticed the cover was off my AC air handler, cover off my Honeywell Zone control panel, cover off one of the main damping controls and cover screws lying on the floor. I am in no way pleased with the professionalism and knowledge of the contractor or the professionalism of AHS in not following up with their customers and quality assurance of the contractors they hire. The last time I called AHS to request service was for my water heater and was told there were no AHS plumbing contractors in my area. I had to do the repairs myself, my cost and my time. I have been an AHS customer for years but definitely do not feel like the consumers pictured on your website. This is a fiasco.

I made a claim with American Home Shield because my air conditioner was freezing up. The incident occurred one or two days prior to calling it in. The air conditioner stopped cooling properly -- it would freeze up and I would have to shut it off and let it thaw out. I'd had this problem maybe 3 or 4 times previous. It seems this would pop up once a year.
They sent a technician out and he jumped in there and analyzed the problem. He presented himself as an employee of the company, and went straight to work. He knew what he was talking about, presented himself as knowledgeable, and fixed it. He recognized that it’s probably some type of a pinhole leak located somewhere within the home. He installed a product that is designed to stop pinhole leaks, and recharged the unit. He was here in less than an hour, and we've not had any further problems with it.
Now I don't have to worry about my air conditioner. But prior to the air conditioner issue, we had a water leak in our bathroom on a claw foot tub. It took 3, 4, or 5 visits and 3 different contractors to get it fixed over a period of 5 months. The last guy that came out was very professional, very knowledgeable and very courteous. He came in, analyzed the problem, and fixed it. We've had no further problems with it. It was a simple repair that the previous contractors had not put any type of sealant on the pipe fittings. He removed the problem fitting, applied pipe sealer to it, screwed it back on, made sure it was tight, and it’s worked perfect ever since. No problem since the last guy came out, and it’s been 4 to 6 weeks.

Was a loyal customer of American Home Shield for NINE YEARS. I cancelled my policy with AHS after the way they handled a particular situation with my faucet as I was not receiving any water in my kitchen sink when I turned on the faucet. They sent out a company called AZ Plumbing "Air Conditioning and everything in between." This company came to my apartment on December 16th, 2013 to diagnose the issue. The receipt I have in hand states their diagnosis as, "Need new cartridge. Not covered." AZ Plumbing told me the cartridge part of the faucet is not covered but they would order me the new cartridge for $65 and come back another day to install it which would cost another $75 co-pay on top of that. This "$65" part sold for a fraction of that at Home Depot. I told AZ Plumbing no. I went to Home Depot and bought the cartridge myself and had a different plumber come over to the house. One look at the "broken cartridge" and he knew it was not broken. One look at the line, fixed it in 20 minutes, and was on his way!
I had already paid $75 cash up front to AZ Plumbing to misdiagnosis my faucet and leave. I called AHS immediately and explained to them the situation. They promised to reimburse my $75 co-pay back in December of 2013. It is now June 20th, 2014. I have been waiting OVER SIX MONTHS for this reimbursement and every single time I call American Home Shield customer service center, I either receive a run around answer, I get put on hold for forty-five plus minutes, or I (conveniently for AHS) randomly get disconnected. I have been promised by multiple customer service representatives that they would get me an answer and call me back the next day, and I never receive a call back. One of these many representatives was Zorona who I spoke with on March 31st. She never called me back. I followed up yet again on June 9th regarding status of my reimbursement dating back to December 16th, of 2013 and I was just recently informed that American Home Shield would need to resubmit the claim again and start the process over!
The purpose of this letter is to inform people of AHS and their antics. I hope that this letter raises awareness about this company and how they run their business. All I want is the $75 back that I am rightfully owed. I was told it would take up to 21 business days! NOT 6 months! At this point it is more the principle of the matter. I would like my $75 back from American Home Shield. Thank you for your time.

I didn't hear from them. When I contacted AHS, they had really long wait times. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with their service providers and that I wanted to speak to someone in charge, all the rep did was repeat that she had no one I could talk to and she repeated the customer service number. It was a terrible experience. I did contact their Facebook page and someone helped me when I did that. I have a new problem and I must say I have no faith that it will be resolved in a timely manner. Rather than replace the coil they keep sending service people to try to patch it up. The last person came out yesterday he was very nasty and when I asked him not to turn on the A/C he snapped at me. "I'm an experienced A/C Man who knew what he was doing," turned it on anyway and the house immediately heated up. Left and on his way out I stopped him and told him to come back because the temperature had gone up to 92 degrees. He went back outside shut it off and left. In the meantime I still have no A/C and it's very hot outside. They are horrible. Sales rep will tell you that they replace like for like but when you read the contract it allows them to replace your product with "similar features, capacity, and efficiency, but not for matching dimensions, brand, or color". They are "not responsible for matching any feature of an existing item that does not contribute to the primary function of that item". So if something breaks and it cannot be fixed with the $75 service call - then they find the cheapest, crappiest replacement item with no concern about how it fits back into your kitchen, yard or room. If you don't want what they have - then they allow you to receive cash instead - but only offer you about 1/4 of what it would take to buy the right product. Don't buy into this sham coverage.

She identified herself, asked me how she could assist me, and proceeded to give me the name of the contractor. The contractor contacted me within 48 hours and gave me date and time options. Before the contractor arrived at my house, they called to let me know the name of the service person and also what time to expect them. The service person arrived on time and was very efficient. He told me what the problem was and he was able to repair it the same day. He asked for a broom so that he could sweep the floor when he finished.

My Hot water heater blew its top in the garage and was pouring out water. Of course this happened the hour after my husband was on a plane out of town. I was able to turn the main off, luckily I knew how to do that. I called AHS and they called back like 20 minutes later and gave me a time window that same day. Our hot water was able to continue with the one working hot water heater until the next day when the new one was installed. The contractor was fast, knowledgeable and very explanatory. This whole process was complete start to finish in a little over 24 hours. That's my kind of service.

The customer service while we had the policy was OK, it always took a long time for the phone to be answered and there was never same day service available. I had to call companies myself to find one and then call AHS back to tell them who it was that could make it same day. The billing CS is horrible!!!! I cancelled a policy in Feb because we sold the house. A month later I received a notice from a collection agency stating I owed the remaining amount. I contacted Transworld Systems (in house collection company) and AHS and advised that I had cancelled the policy. Turns out when I cancelled there was another department I had to talk to which no one ever told about.
I cancelled the policy again and received a conf #. About 3 weeks later I received the cancellation letter and a refund of the over payment. In the meantime I still received 2 more letters from Transworld systems. It is now June and I continue to receive collection notices. AHS says to contact Transworld and vice versa. AHS says not to worry no balance is due but then why I am still getting notices??? I will be filing complaints with the FTC on both companies. I will post this review on EVERY site I can. I work in real estate and will inform every customer about the dissatisfaction with this company.

American Home Shield was awesome. The most recent claim that I made was for my garage door. We didn't know what it was until finally, it just didn't come up at all and so we called American Home Shield. Our experience with submitting the claim was excellent and we had no problems at all. The representatives were friendly and knowledgeable every time we call. The contractors sent by American Home Shield have been awesome.
Now, our garage door opener has become excellent and is brand new again. It affected our day to day operations a 100%, since I can get my van out of my garage again. We just had an excellent experience with them. I would highly recommend them.

I later came up with the money and the repair service went to pick up unit and cancelled because their truck was not big enough (April 2014). In May, they went back and said the new unit was damaged. They went back in June and the same thing. Now it is June 16 and still no a/c. I would not recommend this company.

We bought the house last year. The unit looked to be fairly new, I don’t know what the actual age is. Anyway, we hadn't had a problem at all, except for one night, all of a sudden it started getting warmer and warmer and warmer, and there was no AC. We called that evening and they were out the next day and they replace a wire and something else. The next day it went out again, and that time they had to replace something else -- the wire had burnt again or whatever it was that was causing the problem, and they replaced that. They were very quick for a holiday weekend, and we greatly appreciate it, and we haven’t had another problem since. We also had our pool pump go out and they were very quick about that. The guy came out and fixed the pump. Even though we have a high deductible, $100, I tell my husband that it’s just wonderful that when something goes wrong, you don’t have to have a heart attack, like “Oh, my God, where are we gonna get money for that?”
I love it. I love the service and I feel very privileged to have chosen American Home Shield.

On Monday, June 9, 2014, I discovered a leak in my garage that I thought was coming from the water softener. I called American Home Shield and they sent my work order to a local San Antonio plumbing company. The appointment was set and two "plumbers" arrived to diagnose my problem. It seemed all was going to go well until the "diagnostics" part. (Water had been steady leaking all day and I had told the AHS rep and the plumbing customer service this fact). The plumbers had arrived in a small PT cruiser and stated that they were not there to fix the problem but to diagnose. Well, they disconnected the water softener and broke a PVC pipe. Water was leaking from the water heater and they saw it and wrote it up but did nothing!! They set up an appointment for the next day. At 3:00 AM, water leaked through into the bedroom. NO ONE from AHS could help. The solution was to add it to the previous work order and charge me another $100. Save your money and find another service. I am going to do that now!

A couple of weeks ago, I used American Home Shield once for service in my air conditioner because it was blowing but not getting cold. Then it just went blowing all the time, just warm. I called them and so far, it's been great. Submitting the claim was very easy, too, because I just called the number on the paper and then they set me up with someone. The rep that I spoke to was very nice and explained everything to me. She told me that the repairperson would contact me and that was what they did.
When they came in, they took off their shoes and greeted me. Then they looked at everything and they let me know what was wrong with it. They seemed to really know a lot about air conditioners because I thought it was something worse. The A/C is still working good. It's working better than it has in years. I guess it was blocked up for a long time and I didn't know it. The repair has made it more comfortable to be here and I just know that if I ever had to do it again, I'd get those same people even if I were to replace my unit. They seemed to be more knowledgeable than any other air condition people I've ever used before. Everything was effortless, satisfying, and very professional.

I was told about American Home Shield through a co-worker. It sounded like a really good plan - almost too good to be true. I called to set my account up. I was immediately helped. The agent who set my account up was kind of short and didn't seem very friendly but I thought I was doing a good thing. It would take a few weeks for the account to be effective, and I understood, that was fine. A week before my effective date I found out we have to put the house up for sale and move - job related. I thought great I can call and cancel before it becomes effective and it will be alright. I am getting the complete run around. The day I called I was put on hold for thirty minutes then I was disconnected. Then I was finally able to speak with another agent who put the report to cancel in and said I would get a call back. I never heard anything.
The next day I sent an email to ask to please confirm my cancellation via phone or email... nothing. I guarantee my account will be charged tomorrow when I check it. After getting the run around like this I have looked at other people’s comments on how their service was with American Home Shield. My biggest complaint would be how unprofessional this whole thing has been. If only someone could have called or sent an email confirming my cancellation. I have waited a whole week - they cannot be that busy.
Hello Rebecca, I have removed your payment information and contacted the cancellation department regarding this concern. We are sorry to hear about your situation and a full refund has been requested. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Anything more complicated than fixing a stuck drain and you are going to have problems with this company. We have been without air conditioning for over a month while they continue to send out their "approved" repair company to put in parts purchased and shipped to them by AHS. It's a great shell game -- AHS says they are not responsible for the timely or accurate completion of repairs, but you can't use anyone other than their repair people to do the work-- and AHS is who got your upfront money for insurance. Instead of replacing a unit they have "repaired" 10 times, they just keep "repairing" it. And now they are going to charge us over $400 for freon! They have now replaced the compressor twice and it still isn't working. They also omit things from their phone records and train their phone center staff what not to type certain things into records. Make an audio recording of every interaction with them so you have proof.

I have thrown a lot of money away on AHS. For the past three summers I have had AC breakdowns. Each time AHS sends out someone to "fix" the problem. Each time they charge me the $60-75 service fee and gouge me on the refrigerant. This March (not August) the AC went out again and the same routine. It is now mid June and we are having the same problem. AHS insists that we pay the service fee despite the recent visit. They obviously are sending out people for a quick fix (duct tape and bubble gum, basically).
Also, we had a plumbing stoppage in our bathroom a couple of years ago and they sent out two incompetent plumbers who incorrectly told me that the pipes were installed backwards. When I finally hired my own plumber, despite assurances that they would reimburse me, AHS refused to pay for the plumbers who actually fixed the problem.
AHS is the biggest scam and you should avoid this company like the plague. This is ridiculous. I would sue them for fraud but the contract has a binding arbitration clause and you can't get a fair deal when they can hire the judge.

They left my home after 5 minutes. I never received a follow up call from AHS. I made a follow up call to check the status and was told they would not be fixing my heater b/c someone had previously altered the heater. My heater had never been worked on before. I have never had an issue with it prior. AHS sent another contractor to my home and they could not figure out the issue of why it was broken but never mentioned any issue of previous work being done that would prevent them from working on my heater. Again I was never contacted back by the contractor or AHS.
I attempted to contact the contractor (Clearwater Pools) several times and my calls were never returned. I called AHS several times only to be kept on hold for no less than 20 minutes each time. I was told by several reps from AHS that they would contact the contractor and I would be contacted within 24 hours. I was NEVER called back. The contractors that they use seem to collect the $95 fee and are never heard from again. The company that was called for the repairs is not too far from St Louis... thermostat sat at 72 but inside it's 80 and outside it may be 78... the compressor constantly runs...the company has been called three times and we're still waiting. Our hot water heater started leaking...and here is when it gets really good... we pay $75 FOR the service fee... but because the hot water heater is also leaking from the intake that is considered a modification... $125... and the disposal of the hot water heater $50, so altogether to have this replaced is costing us a total of $250. And if we wanted an upgrade... $175-200 more. We feel ripped off... so what is the A/C going to cost us? This unit is 25+ years old... not a happy camper with ahs!

The following day 5/27/14, I called AHS to see if I could have another Service provider could be assigned that would be able to schedule an appointment sooner than 5/30/14. The second AHS representative that I spoke on 5/28/14 during normal business hours was very apprehensive and tried to coerce me into believing that no other service provider would be able to get to me before 5/30/14. I informed the representative to that One hour earlier a previous representative told me that you all would call around and find someone during normal working hours to check sooner availability. The representative then asked me, "so you want me to call around and check"? My answer was yes; she then placed me on hold and assigned me to ABC air conditioning.
ABC air-conditioning called me about 15 minutes after getting off the phone with AHS. The representative from ABC made it very clear that customer service was not his number one goal. He asked where I lived and told me to tell him the problem that I had in such detail as if he was trying to diagnose it over the phone. After I explained to him that I can't answer all the questions he was asking because of my lack of understanding, he then told me that by the time he gets to my house it will be too hot in the attic and he will not attempt to go in there if it's hot.
He came out to my house between the hours of 0900 and 1000 on 5/28/14. I was not present but had someone there to meet him. The One hundred dollar deductible was paid in cash; unfortunately he did not relay any information to the person at the home neither did call my number, which I gave to him for an update.
Later that evening I called him to get an update and he told me that it needed a part that he was unable to locate and he would turn the matter over to AHS. When I asked him about the part and why it was so hard to locate he stated, "I do not need to answer to you, I work for AHS not you". After ending the call with ABC, I immediately called AHS to find out if ABC had contacted them and I was informed that ABC had not did such and to wait until tomorrow (6/5) to receive an update. On 6/5. the AHS representative informed me that they had some notes but could not give me a clear description of the course of action that would be taken.
I returned a third call to AHS in regards to ABCs repairs on 5/30/14 and a pleasant representative claimed to understand my concerns and would further look into the matter for clarification and that she would be in the office until 1630 and would return my call. Unfortunately, I never received a call from her. On the evening of 5/30/14 I returned a 4th call in regards to this matter and that's when my patience had become depleted. The representative that evening was straightforward in not willing to effectively address the matter with a very non-sympathetic manner. He explained to me that there was nothing he could do as the part has been ordered and I must wait for it with no alternative. I asked him if I could speak with a Supervisor and he stated, "They are going to tell me the same thing!" I told him that was unacceptable and to please allow me to speak with a supervisor and the representative told me that one would contact me within the next 24 hours. Needless to say, that return call NEVER came. The next time I heard from AHS was via email on 6/3 explaining that the part had arrived.
The ABC repair person contacted me on 6/3 and returned on 6/4 to install the part. However, the air conditioning is still not fixed! Two weeks after the initial call and no air conditioning.

I contacted AHS on the early morning of 6-4-14 that my refrigerator had went out. I told them I had medication that had to be kept cold. They notified a contractor to come out which did not even contact me at all. They finally showed up in the evening of 6-5-14. They got back with AHS and told them the compressor was out and they could not replace it. I contacted AHS 6 times since then. They keep putting me off. They say it's under review because they can't find a contractor to do the repairs. I have contacted 8 companies and they will not replace the compressor in this unit.
Today is 6-9-14. AHS needs to make some kind of a decision right away. I cannot go any longer without a refrigerator. I am very unhappy with their service. I pay 62.83 a month to have this protection and it's not worth the paper it is written on. I just got off the phone with AHS once again. They claim a supervisor tried to contact me at 7:30 this morning, such a lie. I have been right here waiting on a call from them and no one has called. They told me they are still looking for a outside contractor to do the work.
How long should a person have to wait on them to make up their minds what they are going to do. The lady said she would have her supervisor contact me again. They claim they got no answer. That's bs but however why did they not leave a message with the status. I am sick of this. 5 days without a refrigerator is too long. I have reported them to the bbb also.

My 75 dollar deductible covers majority of the cost for the little issue I had. I realize with my experience there was no need for this home warranty company.

I live in Shelby NC and our air conditioning went out last week. I call AHS for assistance with the repairs. AHS called at company 135 miles away in Carthage NC to make the repairs. On day three, the tech arrived to assess the repairs. It took two days for the technicians paper work to reach the office and another day (day 6) before they could get pricing, and call AHS back to get permissions to make the repairs. When I called the AC company for an update on day three, they stated that it would be 5-10 business days before repairs are made if AHS gives permission for the repairs to be made.
Last year, when the fan went out, a local company was dispatched and repairs were made in a very timely fashion. Why call someone 135 miles away when you could call a local company 10-30 miles away? With the ill health of my wife, she is not and will not be a happy camper before this is all said and done. When we sell the house, that will most likely be the end of our relationship with AHS.

I just purchased a home and got the home warranty with American Home Shield. I put in a request as my shower faucet was leaking. The contractor came over on Thursday and took apart the faucet, went to several parts places and came back saying no one had seen the Delta cartridge that was cracked. However, the one parts place had an older gentleman who was on a fishing trip and probably wouldn't be back until Monday, so since the young salesmen at the parts place didn't know about the cartridge, I would have to wait. Once the contractor put the faucet back together, it was leaking even worse! Plus it was HOT water, therefore steaming up the room! I called American Home Shield and they agreed that I would have to wait to see if the parts place even had the part on Monday!
So, now I will even have a higher water bill because the contractor messed with the faucet and it's possible that the cartridge is NOT even replaceable! I spent hundreds of dollars for a home warranty which is a joke! I wouldn't advise anyone to purchase American Home Shield as they don't provide quick service and obviously the customer's issues don't matter. I feel like if I spent that much money on a service, I should get quick service especially since the contractor made the problem worse! I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against both American Home Shield and the contractor for such horrible, slow service!

The water dispenser line on my refrigerator froze. Over the course of 3 weeks, they sent five repairmen from Sears out to fix it and failed each time. The last technician didn't even bother to install the face plate all the way...it's protruding from the wall of the refrigerator. I asked them twice to use a different repair service and they insisted Sears was the only available option. When I called back, they suggested we switch to a different repair service and then denied having said there weren't any. The GE tech called me 3 days later...I was 45 minutes away...and said the tech would be at my house in 10 min. I didn't even know we had an appointment.
When I explained I wasn't home...I didn't even have an appointment scheduled, she got belligerent and hung up on me. I demanded another servicing agent be used and they tried to charge me an additional $75. When I insisted, they waive it, they assured me a different agent would contact me within 24 hours and the work would be done to my satisfaction. They never called. It's been 11 months. In all, I've had six technicians in my home, I've spent hours on the phone trying to accommodate them and their schedules and I still don't have a working water line. My most recent experience with American Home Shield was to have my garage door serviced. First of all, it was in the dead of winter with snow on the ground and the garage door would not open. I tried everything I thought was possible to apply a fix to get the door to operate. Nothing worked. I thought it was the switch on the wall that was broken and caused the door to malfunction. Therefore I gave in and called AHS. They quickly had a contractor to come out to inquire and assess the problem.
The contractor was excellent in identifying himself and repeated whom he was representing (This is a good thing nowadays with crooks appearing). It was the same information that I was given over the phone from AHS and the contractor. His time of arrival was very good and his communication with me was outstanding. After the contractor had made a determination of what the actual problem was, he told me what was needed to repair it. The problem that was determined was not covered by AHS and I would have to pay for the repair myself. The cost was nominal and I had the item replaced. Even though the option was not covered by AHS, the cost would have been a lot more had they not been recommended by AHS. Also, the service fee was waived since I chose them to do the work. I like and trust AHS to send the right type of service personnel to fix things. With the many times I have used them, they have not failed me yet.

We have been customers of American Home Shield for fourteen years. A little over a week ago, our hot water heater's pilot light continued to go out after a short time. American Home shield was notified and after a 24 hour wait, a plumber arrived to inspect the water heater. At the end of his inspection, he simply re-lit the pilot (which I had done several times before) and left the premises. By the following day, the hot water heater's pilot had gone out again. A second call to American Home Shield on Friday, required waiting until Monday afternoon before a second inspection took place. On that day a plumber arrived and a small, inexpensive, reset button was installed. The next morning the hot water heater's pilot light had gone out again. Another twenty four hour wait took us into Wednesday afternoon when a second plumber attempted to replace a part from a supplier who stated that the part required was no longer available but suggested an updated part. That part turned out to be too small to fit the water heater properly. The plumber replaced the old part, re-lit the pilot and wrote a report that new parts were unavailable for the water heater.
This morning, we awoke with no pilot nor water pressure. This has now gone on for seven days and with the weekend coming up, it looks likely that it will go on through the weekend while American Home Shield continues to seek a cheap solution to a non-functioning water heater at our expense. Further continuation will result in the necessity to seek legal means to adjudicate our problem.

They contacted an Electrical Company in Topeka, KS which is approx 30-35 miles or more from the Elec Co to my house. They never called me to set up appt. A week later I called AHS and told them about an Elec here in town. They set it up to have him come look at my elec system. He called me and said I had at least 3 code violations and three 50 amp appliances on one 50 amp breaker, with no way to add more.
AHS refused to cover any of the repairs citing E7 (exclusions) overloaded breakers. I called back for an AC service and possible repairs and also removal of a leaky toilet in my basement. They required me to use 2 different companies when the same repair man that did my elec. is also a plumber, hvac and ac repair. They won't let me use him because he is not on their list. The service rep was rude and unhelpful when I asked about how do we get him on their list and refused to answer my question. Then she hung up on me. I had AHS for several years. For the last three years, my refrigerator had been misbehaving; it was noisy and leaky. It began to get worse and worse; it went out completely three times, ceasing to function altogether. I lost three refrigerator loads of groceries, and several medications; I am on Disability and SNAP, as I informed the company. I was paying these people $47 a month just to be a client, and every visit by a tech cost another $75 on top of that. I have a sheaf of a dozen work orders for tech visits. Every time I had to make a call in this last year, I told them I think the thing needs replacement, which is their obligation under their contract. They ducked and dived a dozen times, and a tech would come out and fix THE SAME DAMN PROBLEM, which would stay stable for maybe a month and I'd have to call again. I became well-acquainted with the techs they sent from four different companies.
Finally, they caved in and sent out a replacement fridge. The techs who delivered it installed the door backwards, so if it opens, it blocks entry into the kitchen. But I'm not calling them back. I've severed our relationship at last. I not only called them to tell them so, but sent them an email memorializing my complaint in writing. Now they've had the crust to send me another bill for $75 for the replacement. I'm going to let them hear about that, too.
I saw something on the Web saying they're #1 in their field. Well, that's a sorry statement if true. AHS is a shameless, money-sucking, wretched outfit and I am SO glad to be free. Whatever is in second place has got to be better. I've terminated them not only because of their abysmal service, but because I can't afford to be charged $122 a month when I have a repeat (and futile) service call and $47 a month, when I make no call at all. Ridiculous, no? Steer clear. Save yourself.

I took a half day off work to meet the technician that never showed. Later that day, I received a phone call saying he was running late and rescheduled the appointment for May 9 2014. I once again took off work and the technician did not show, again. I contacted AHS to request to cancel my contract due to the missed appointments and I just wanted to get my A/C fixed. I was willing to pay someone else after seeing my children sweating through the night. She apologized and waived my $100 deductible fee, and I reluctantly did not cancel at that time. Later that day, the technician called me and said he would be over first thing in the morning May 10 2014.
He did show up that afternoon and I assumed that my A/C would be repaired that day. This was not the case; he found the leak and explained to me he has to get approval from AHS to start work. It was also told to me that AHS will not pay for Freon and the total will be around $400. I was told AHS or repair company would call me to make my repair appointment. After waiting a few days, I finally had to contact them and it was scheduled for May 23rd 2014. The technician did try to call me to confirm I was home. I missed the call but returned 17 minutes after it was missed. The tech said that policy is if I don't return the call within 15 minutes, he goes to the next call. He explained that his company would contact me to reschedule an appointment on Tuesday. This was my fault and I understood but Tuesday came and went.
I once again contacted AHS and explained the situation and asked if I just pay someone else to fix it. The representative told me that this would void the contract. I finally just contacted the company again and made ANOTHER appointment for June 3 2014. Keep in mind it is MAY-JUNE in Florida and it now has been over a month without A/C for my family. The company called me the next day to tell me that they needed change my appointment to June 4 2014. 4) Make another appointment once part comes in

I had an issue with a stackable washer/dryer in my investment property. This single appliance took eight visits, six technicians, a plumber hired by me and about 50 phone calls on my part to complete. I asked AHS to call me prior to technician arrival on first visit. As this is an investment property and it was early morning, I did not wait inside so as not to disturb my tenants. After waiting over an hour, I went to the door and found a "sorry we missed you" note. I called the number immediately and asked them to turn around and come fix the item. They were ten minutes away and refused to turn around as it "messed up their schedule".
The second time someone came, he did call me so I did not miss him. He had to order a part and we scheduled a follow up. A different technician returned, put in the new part but said that was likely the wrong diagnosis. The washer/dryer had the same problems the next day. AHS sent out another technician. He said it was the transmission. So, had to wait for a new transmission to come. Yet another appointment to make. I was scheduled between the hours of 8 and 12. I arrived at 7:30 AM with a plumber. The toilet needed to be removed to fully access the washer/dryer.
At 11:30, I called to get an update as to the technician's whereabouts. I was then told by American Home Shield that the appointment was made for the afternoon. Not true. I lost an entire day of work waiting for these guys. They arrived around 2:30 and left around four. When putting the washer/dryer back, they broke a floor bolt for the toilet. So, had to involve the plumber again. Another out of pocket expense for me. I called American Home Shield and asked for some compensation. Like a free month of coverage. Maybe two. I was told by every single person I spoke with: "I'm sorry for your frustration but no". This repair was on a Friday.
On Sunday, my tenants called to say the washer was having the same problem (not spinning between cycles). I called American Home Shield AGAIN. This time I told them not to send a technician from the same outfit as before (I won't name them here). They did send me a local person who was annoyed that he had to go through traffic to get to the property. He came and told me the washer needed a timer and he would order one then call me. A week passed. No call. I called him and he told me that AHS would not authorize the part. Back to the phone with AHS. I spoke to 7 or 8 people to get this part authorized. Each time sitting on hold for more than 15 minutes.
After nearly two weeks from the last technician visit, finally authorization was made for the part. The tech came and replaced the timer. Though he promised to call a half hour before coming so I wouldn't lose a whole day's work again, no call from him. I had to call him myself three times. The washer is working now, fortunately, but it took almost two months to complete along with my lost work time (about 4.5 days total) and about 50 phone calls from me. I was doing all the work yet I'm paying the monthly fee. Quality service? I think not.
I called today to cancel my contracts. I have one on my own home and one on my investment property. They told me this morning that someone would contact me to handle the cancellation. Of course that didn't happen. I FINALLY canceled these worthless contracts just now. After being put on hold for 35 minutes, repeating all my information and my story again, and last but not least, dealing with a nasty person with zero customer service skills. I've spent about $600.00 for this service in the last five months. That money would have been better stuck in the bank so I could have called on someone I trusted to handle the repair in one visit.

But to my surprise, the technician came around 1:30 PM today. By 2:30 PM, he fixed the problem and our AC is up running!!! Amazing Job - AHS!!!

They never want to cover anything. Always an excuse for why they won't pay. Use very low quality companies for repairs. Took five days to send out someone for air conditioner repair in 90-degree weather. The guy finally shows up and says it was hit by lightning (which isn't covered) and its $2000 to repair. I called someone for second opinion and it was fixed in 20 minutes. Wasn't lightning. American Home Shield would not refund service call or cover repair. Customer service has been very rude every time.
Hi Tim, I would like to take a closer look at your recent service request. Would you mind if I contacted you by phone to discuss?

We had a water leak underneath our house and the lady who helped me at AHS was awesome!! She got someone out immediately so that we wouldn't have to go all weekend without water... The contractor was out there in no time and had it fixed in the afternoon.

My experience with American Home Shield has been one that I wish I had CNN News to follow. I requested service for both of my AC units. American Home Shield serviced it out to one of their contractors who took over 5 days to even schedule to come out. I then requested for an emergency contractor being that it was now an additional 6 days. American Home Shield put a request for another contractor who stated I need a compressor. Well, another 5 days go by, no phone call or email. I have to constantly follow up to see what that status is.
Finally, another person from this second request comes out to my home and says the same thing??? You think! Long story short as a result of their lack of follow up or directions I have condensation overflow in my upstairs ceiling and American Home Shield can not get a hold of the contractors to do an emergency repair. Their response was we left several messages. I ask to speak to a supervisor to ask the question who is protecting my home from this water damage while you guys figure out who to send out? I have water stains that have went to my garage which is located underneath this ac unit, the holding pain was in an overflow.
We had a neighbor who looked at it and stated that they jerry rigged my pvc pipe with duck tape instead of cutting the pipe to let the condensation flow down, so my drains are clogged, and that is why the compressor cuts off. The last 4 years, I have called American Home Shield to fix this same AC unit and pay them 4-5 hundred dollars each year to get the same results. This is the worst service I have ever had. I pay them every month religiously and as a result, they contract to the worst contractors who say that they will call you back and don't. I plan to take full legal action as a Navy Veteran. I will make sure no military personnel use their service and looking at all of the reviews I can see why, I'm not the only one who is frustrated. I have photos of all the secondary damage that has occurred since my first phone call out of 15.

American Home Shield was very easy to deal with when I had an AC claim. The problem that I had was that with the company that they sent to fix the AC. 1. You do not have a choice in what company does your service work. 2. The service tech came and diagnosed a burned circuit board (for $70)... Ordered it and replaced it but did not check out the rest of the system or send me a work order stating that they did. 3. When asked to return only then did they diagnose another problem which necessitated a replacement of 10 pounds of AC coolant. At $20/ pound I still had a $200 bill plus the $70 service call even though I had the coverage. I do not feel it was cost effective to have the coverage. 4. I would rather pick my own contractor next time.
Dealing with American Home Shield was great but the limitation of what is covered plus the service call in addition to not being able to pick my own AC service company was the determining factors of my ratings.

My tankless water heater has been working intermittently for four months. The first two contractors AHS sent didn't know how to work on them. I called one who did, got a quote, AHS accepted the quote, but will not release the funds. I call AHS and they say the contractor must contact them. I call the contractor and they say they've tried to contact AHS, but can't get through to anyone who can write them a check. This is the absolute worst customer service at any major company that I have ever seen. I'll be contacting a lawyer tomorrow if this isn't resolved. Will update soon.
Thank you for the update Chris! We are happy to know that your issue got resolved. Once again we apologize for the inconvenience!

This was my 2nd year having AS and I had used them once before. I am a planner and try to be safe than sorry. My fan started to only go one speed and I am expecting a baby soon and needed the fan fixed asap. I live in Texas where temperature can get 110 in the summer. When the service man comes out, he flies the switch and automatically tells me I need a whole new fan. My fan is moderately inexpensive so it surprised me to hear him say the only one the company can provide will not at all match the one you have. So whether I decide to go with the change out or not I have to pay the $75 as a service fee.
I was pretty upset, so I called to confirm and ask if there was anything else that could be done. Besides waiting over 15 min on hold, I was connected to a very rude woman who raised her voice at me to get her point across. I just then cancelled my whole contract. I wish I had a better experience like others did. And the first time I attempted to use them was a faulty wire from the a/c; which caused the box to burn. The service man came in and twisted 2 wires together with a cap and that was it. He took his service fee and left. So again, I feel let down with this company. I wish I could just hire a handyman.

This is the first and last time I will do business with this company. A complete RIP OFF. AHS rep, items were covered. Sent tech for each problem, Sears was wonderful and helpful but plumbing was needed on dishwasher. Plumber showed up and diagnose problems. AHS rep calls while tech still here and says everything is covered, just need a supervisor to sign off. Will be taken care of first part of next week. Waited 4 days and called AHS to find out status. Neither problem will be covered. Says we damaged it ourselves and not wear and tear. Completely ridiculous. I want a garden hose running out my window to use cold water for washer. Called another contractor, repair is less than $400 to fix. I paid $150 for nothing AHS. Get nothing but runaround. AHS reps do not know what they are talking about. I WILL NOT RENEW NOR RECOMMEND to anyone. BAD service and contractors. Waste of time and money.

I have been paying premiums with American Home Shield for 5 years and have never requested their assistance. Three weeks ago, I contacted them one morning because I thought our AC was going out (smelled electrical burning through vents). They said assigned a contractor (who had negative reviews on various online review sites). By 2:00, I had not heard from the contractor, so I cancelled that requests, called another company and they sent someone over the next morning. Turns out it was our water heater. The electrical component on top had melted. Since the water heater is under warranty, I contacted the manufacturer, who eventually agreed to replace the water heater.
I contacted AHS to see if they could assign a contractor to remove the old one and install the new one and they said no. Yet, supposedly, if I had contacted them initially, and they had sent someone out who agreed the water heater needed to be replaced, they would have paid to replace it...supposedly. The girl who answered the phone was giggling the entire time and it sounded like she had a friend with her. Not professional. I just saved them the cost of a new water heater and just needed a contractor to remove the old one and install the new one, but they won't do that. I asked that my contract with them be cancelled. They put me on hold for 8 minutes and then hung up. I called back and spoke with someone else who said he will notify our mortgage company, though "it may take a couple of billing cycles." My next call will be to my mortgage company to ensure it won't be a couple of billing cycles.

I originally submitted a service request to get my pool fixed (we specifically purchased pool covered when we bought our home) on 5/20/14. Late in the evening on 5/20, we got a call from a pool company telling me that he could not come out until Saturday (5/24/14), which was certainly longer than we wanted to wait. When the pool company came to our home, he indicated that the problem was "electrical". AHS then assigned an electrician who said that the problem was not, in fact, electrical - the pool needs a new timer. The electrician said that he could fix it, but he suspected that AHS would not allow it. He asked them - they didn't allow it. The electrician indicated that he had prior experience with this pool company, and they claimed not to be able to do much of anything related to fixing pools... he apologized that we were getting turned back over to that company.
The original pool company called back thinking that the timer had been replaced. When I explained that was not the case... instead, the case was assigned to him so that he could replace the timer. He said that he could not fix it because he isn't qualified to do "electrical" work. AHS has now had us sitting in a queue for dispatch for almost an entire day waiting to be assigned to another pool company (which I suspect they do not have a contract with in our area). I've called multiple times asking to speak with a supervisor, and no one has called me back.
The problem is now more than a week old. Customer service only seems to look at the most recent reassignment date and then wonders why I'm getting angry. I am angry because you would not let the electrician fix my pool when he said he could. Instead, you put me back in a queue waiting to be assigned to another pool company. Apparently, I have to sit in queue for 48 hours until anyone will admit that there isn't another pool company in my area that works with AHS to whom my case can be assigned. So frustrating!

I had a terrible time figuring out what the problem was with my thermostat. I had consulted with the individual who installed it and he insisted that the problem lay with the thermostat and not a piece of electronics within my heating system. After a few months I broke down and called AHS. Within a few hours I was speaking with the technician to pick a time when he could come over and I explained what my problem was. He diagnosed my problem over the phone (my old HVAC guy was in complete denial); problem was fixed with a new sparking control unit. Very efficient, I will use them for service before next fall's heating season.

I have used AHS for many years, paying over $500/year and $75 service calls. I have only used them for my garbage disposal in all the time I've had them. When my heat pump went out, which was the lowest contractor grade, AHS would only allow the same grade and only 1/2 of my split unit (1/2 in the attic) but not the unit outside though it was rusted, horribly loud, and over 13 years old, knowing it would be going out in the next few months also. The company recommended was GREAT, but AHS refused to give permission to qualify me for a new and better system, even if to pay a portion of the cost. Instead I paid out of pocket.
Many GOOD contractors are dropping them because of their lack of concern. It's my opinion they want the money and turn a blind eye to those in need. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AHS TO ANYONE I KNOW. The least they could have done is given me what they were going to pay for the cheap unit so I could place it toward the better grade unit. Not everyone is rich except their CEOs.

I've been with AHS for over 10 years now - both in Fort Worth, TX and in Chelsea, OK where I now reside. I can't tell you how many times they've come to our rescue and aided us in dire times of need. In Texas, AHS replaced both our A/C unit and busted water heater at different times as well as meeting our plumbing needs when they arose.
Recently, however, within two weeks time, my heater & A/C unit went out and my water heater sprang a bad leak - all within just a few days of each other. Needless to say, I called AHS and they were very patient and helpful and replaced both items within a manageable time frame. Our family was so impressed that our nephew and his wife just signed up for AHS. I'm so grateful for this company and the way they have stood by us in our time of need. By and large, the companies that have come out to do the repairs have been knowledgeable, efficient and kind.
My sister and her husband have a different home warranty company in west Texas and they have never been satisfied or used their services due to such delays in getting a response team out there in a timely manner to assist them. I'm glad this has not been our experience. I would truly recommend AHS to anyone! If you are ever dissatisfied with a company that comes to do your service, AHS will find you another company with better qualified people. They truly do care about their commitment to you and the quality of service you receive.
