I was getting my air conditioning serviced and American Home Shield sent May heating and Air. I reached out to AHS online. Their website was easy to use. I like how they advertised all the promotions that's going on. The tech was professional. He talked me through everything that he was doing through the procedures. He presented me with the grade of my AC and let me know about the pressures. I like the coverage with AHS. If they're not able to fix what is broken, then they would help buy another appliance or give me a discount on another appliances.
We appreciate the fantastic review and are glad we could be of service. If you have any further needs or questions, please reach out to us again.

My experience using American Home Shield has been all right. I haven't had any issues with the contractors that they've sent. I've had issues with their evaluation and it's hit or miss based on the customer service rep that I speak with. One of the times, I had an issue with one of my appliances, and the person that I spoke with was not helpful. I asked them to get escalated. I got transferred to the retention team, and that lady I spoke with was extremely helpful and very customer service-oriented. She helped me out and got the issue resolved. Overall, AHS is very quick. Once you submit your claim, they're very quick to get a contractor out. With this particular complaint, the issue that I had took a little bit longer because I was going back and forth with the person I was speaking to on the phone before I got transferred.

I used AHS for an AC tune up that ended up costing me $100 and then that same week I saw advertisements locally for less than $100. Also, the tech said there is something wrong with my air conditioner, but that I have to wait until it went bad for him to fix it. I thought it was kind of ridiculous why he wouldn't just offer to replace the sticky valve then. I don't know if it has really benefited me, but there's a comfort in knowing I have it if something went terribly wrong.

My experience with American Home Shield has recently not been great. We had a refrigerator that broke and it took several months to get it repaired. We were without a refrigerator and it's a family of five. They sent several people out to try to repair it and we asked several times how come they were not replacing it if it's so hard to fix. It works now but that damage is done. I had to pay for a lot of food, eating out and finding different things we could do without a refrigerator -- even through the holidays. They did not seem to want to help us through that or see the urgency in that even though we pointed it out to them several times. But it didn't stop us from being a customer because I feel like at the end of the day, the warranty is worth having. If something breaks, knowing that I can get it repaired for usually relative ease and having the option to get a new appliance, although it didn't seem to work out for the refrigerator, it's worth keeping.

I absolutely love AHS. I recommended them to two other people the other day. I prefer to call somebody by phone when I submit a claim but the few times that I have done something on their website, it's been easy. Absolute Heating & Cooling came and serviced my AC and they were great. The tech explained to me everything he did and he gave credit to whoever installed the unit and let me know that they did a great job installing it.

I have two policies with American Home Shield and when signing up with them, they're very attentive. But sometimes, when you're calling in to schedule services, it's best to do it online and have them contact you to set up something. You can then make sure it gets set up correctly before they send anyone out. Using that call-in number is problematic. Sometimes, when you're asking them questions and they can't resolve it, you ask to speak to a supervisor, but they won't transfer you to anyone else to try to resolve the problem. It's that first level of call, and if that person can't help you, you're stuck. They say they will try to escalate but they may not call you. You gotta keep calling back, and hopefully, you'll get someone who's been there a while who can help you. That's frustrating for a person who pays their premium.
Other than that, I've been happy with American Home Shield. When they send people out, those people are great. They offered a maintenance call for the HVAC for free and the repairman did a good job. I also had work done on the unit when one of the blower motors had gone out on it. A repairman came out and replaced that. He had to make two trips because he didn't have the part the first time, so he had to order it which took a week.

The technician who did the annual maintenance on our unit did a wonderful job. I was very pleased with him. I asked him some other questions about maintenance and how often I should, and he was very helpful. I like that I could call American Home Shield and their contractors would come out quickly, usually. It's a peace of mind when anything goes out. Everything I've had trouble with has been covered. I've had a few times where they've come out for the refrigerator, washer, dryer, and water heater. They're excellent. They give me all the information I need to be safe. It's also a fair price, especially with all the increases that have happened. I don't think they've increased as much as everybody else has after covid.

American Home Shield is quick. They dispatch people and follow through. When nothing can be done about the issue, they always find a solution. Their contractor worked on my icemaker on my refrigerator four times, trying to get it fixed. They replaced part after part but they never could get it right. But it wasn't their fault. It was just bad manufacturer. When they finally couldn't get it fixed, American Home Shield bought the refrigerator out and let me buy a new one. Recently, Royal Flush AC came out for a preseason check on our AC unit. They went up, checked the attic, blew out the condensate line, checked the compressor and did a good job. Every time the contractors have come out, they've done a great job. They're congenial and well trained. I have had other service companies that send kids out with hammers to bang on things, but not this place. They seem to be very well qualified.

American Home Shield is very responsive. There was no heat in our master bedroom and one of the other rooms, so we scheduled an appointment with them. It was very easy, and I received an email about the repair company, their name and when they would be out. It was well coordinated by both the home warranty company as well as the repair company. They were very polite and the process was very smooth.
The repair company came out and said the air handlers needed to be replaced. American Home Shield approved it and the air handlers were replaced. Afterwards, the city of Georgetown was supposed to come out and inspect, but they didn't bring a ladder with them. The guy left and said, "Oh, well, the company will have to reach back out to you." That was really unfair to the company and it's silly that the city of Georgetown didn't bring a ladder with them for an air handler. So that part has not been done yet.

I am a little bit disappointed with American Home Shield. They refused to replace the dishwasher that had completely gone awry and they insisted there is nothing wrong with it. Ultimately, it was leaking and causing me devastation. But even after it leaked and I called them twice for it, they said there's nothing wrong with it. American Home Shield dispatched two appointments and they kept saying that the dishwasher was fine. But I brought the water mitigation people in and they narrowed it down to the dishwasher leaking. I had to toss the dishwasher away and buy a new one. Also, I had to pay for entire floor of hardwood and to have my garage ceiling fixed.
It all started with the water heater. The water heater went bad, started leaking, and then everything else that takes hot water in the house started breaking down. I had to wait days to get them to come and replace stuff and that's what bothers me most. There was no sense of urgency for that. They refused to replace and they had to put in three or four parts -- almost reassembled the entire thing, and parts took time. I stayed without water heater for over 10 days and it was in the middle of March, so it was still cold. They said there was nothing that they could do.
Also, they would not pay for my laundry. I had to take my stuff to the laundromat and the wash and fold service. It’s very expensive and I have to pay out of pocket almost $500 worth of washing stuff. They could have replaced the washing machine for 600 bucks. Had I known that going to the laundromat while they are trying to fix a washing machine in the laundry room is gonna cost me a new washing machine, I would have gone on my own and bought a new washing machine. To give them credit, when I really pushed hard and I had to escalate, they waived the $100 deductible for the washing machine. But I'm not happy overall. I would be thinking hard and twice and 10 times next year if I renew my membership. It's expensive for the kind of service I got.

But ADA Repair came out for the fridge and it was horrific. It took almost a month for the fridge to get repaired and it was the worst service I've had. The claim process is all right. It's 100 bucks to send out a technician and then depending on what they see, if they can fix it, they fix it and they don't charge me. If not, I get money depending on what the problem is, like a percentage off of whatever the total cost of repair is. I had to get a new HVAC unit and they took three grand off for the total. My experience has been okay so far, although I had one issue where they had somebody come out and I wanted them to send somebody else to fix what the first contractor did. Initially, they wanted to charge me again but I was not gonna pay to have them send somebody out to fix what they messed up. Then, they put me in touch with management and they had somebody come out and gave me a free month.
Also, their customer service department needs work. Their first-line agents are not empowered to do anything, so they just read the script. The frustrating aspect of it is I understand what they're saying to me, but they're not listening to what I'm telling them. They just repeat the same line over and over again. The second I get to a manager, he'd be like, “I don't understand why they didn't just do that for you.” That's a common experience with them.

Every time I have a problem, they fix it. The furnace blower fan went bad and they couldn't find another blower so they added a new whole unit. It cost me $600 doing it but I still saved money because it'd probably cost me $3,000 to have it replaced. Most recently, Myers Comfort Specialists came out and serviced my air conditioner for the summer. But for them to only send out Myers was hard because I live in Tuscaloosa and they only come to Tuscaloosa two times out of the week. The tech was good, though.

It had snowed and when the snow had melted, it dripped down into the fuse box. One of the fuses at the very top had trapped water and because of that, it shorted out the fuse in the box. I submitted a warranty request on American Home Shield's site. Fix It came out to replace that particular fuse. The tech said, "Hey, sorry that they don't cover this. So you'll have to pay out-of-pocket." I paid for it right there. Everything was simple. Fix It came out really quickly, and it was over and done with super fast. It wasn't a hassle. The worst. Had an air conditioner compressor go out. Sent contractor and said they would fix the a/c but my portion would be $800. No details just agree to paying $800. Did some calling and found out the extra was for uncovered costs for refrigerant. Contractor cost was 110$ per pound. Local industry standard charge is 60 per pound. Contractor cost is $14 per pound. He later called and said he was sorry but signed a lock in price contract with AHS that he had to charge that much. Of course, HS denied that. My contention was either they forced the price, or they hire contractors who inflate their price with no concern for the customer.
I settled for cash payment ($704) Which proves homeowners cost for uncovered is always more than customer's extra costs. I received an email that I would receive my payment deposited in 1-3 days. After a week and many calls, they are saying our system isn't working. Payments aren't going out. Don't know when it will go out. This explanation was after one telling me it would be 14-21 days, Another to simply wait another day. No one who can really answer questions or give accountability. All phone numbers go to a phone operators who have to reach out to their managers and get back to you.

We paid the blanket fee of $100 so the contractor could come out and do a check on the air conditioner before we turned it on. We always have it inspected in the spring and fall because ours is a combination heat and air. It was a normal check. They found this leak, fixed it and put new Freon in at the same time while they were here. I was glad that they didn't have to come back again because American Home Shield would have charged me another $100. I'm perturbed about what they're doing now since they were bought out by another company and merged with somebody else. It is not as good. And it has become more expensive.
We had the original company since we've lived here. That was nine years ago that we got them. Everything was fine. We're very pleased with the service. My refrigerator quit on me. AHS sent somebody out the same day. I did not have to pay a fee to them. I just had to pay for the part, and it was inexpensive. But nowadays, I'd have to give them $100 before they even referred anybody to me without knowing what was wrong.
I also had problems with my dryer and it quit. The contractor had to order parts for it because the motor had gone out. The tech came back twice, because the first time, he thought it was just a short. He came back with the part a few days later and said, “No. It's not that. The motor died.” So, they had to order a motor. It was a week later that they came back and put a new motor in. But these are old appliances. They were here when we moved in. And we have never bothered to get new ones because they work. If a guy has to come back, AHS wants another $100 from me every time he came. I'm not happy with that because I never had that problem before AHS got bought out. Check around and not just go with them.

American Home Shield is hit or miss. It's like pulling teeth to get answers out of them. The last couple of claims, I was able to do online. Online is painless. But the first few claims, there were some stupid hiccup thinking I wasn't closed on my house. So, I couldn't do it online and had to call in. On the phone was a nightmare. I may or may not be on hold until the end of time.
Also, AHS' customer service is a nightmare to deal with. They're popular with realty companies, so they're a big name out there. But I feel they don't have attention to the individuals that they cover. And they don't have good coverage. They have a high copay compared to other companies. The person they sent out for the keys was amazing. But the last person that was there that did a plumbing inspection was unprofessional, rude, and trash-talked the competitor. AHS is not somebody I would go back to when my year is up with them. I'm going to find a different warranty company.

American Home Shield is a bit pushy. They give me more contact than I actually need. For a while, I got multiples a week, then once a week, now once every two weeks. I know they're there. I know I can use it if I need them. But if I have a problem I'll call. The contractor came out and did the inspection, and cleaning of the condenser unit. One of the guys mentioned that there was a modification that he thought might need to be made. I looked at it and decided that it didn't look like an issue to me. But I got a proposal and forgot it. They weren't clear on what the issue was, and wanted to charge me money to have the repair done because it was a modification.
Once I recognized what that was about, I just went, "Oh, okay. I remember. He told me about that." But they weren't clear in the written communication about what they referred to. And it made me think that they were scamming me until I realized what they were talking about. But it wasn't like he said, "We'll follow up with you with an estimate on this." So when the estimate came, I was, "What is it?"

Filing a service request with American Home Shield is an easy and simple process. I've always used the online app. My most recent request was for a seasonal air conditioning checkup and the tech was professional, courteous and detailed. He explained everything that he was doing and why he was doing it. It took him approximately 30 minutes. I’ve used AHS primarily for the AC and the heater seasonal checkups. They've done an outstanding job.

Air Majesty came out recently for the free AC check that American Home Shield does. The techs were okay, but I asked one of them if the Freon was low and he was like, "Oh, it's all right, but we really can't check it good until it gets hot." I might as well wait till it get hot there, but I still wanted it checked. So, then he proceeded on telling me he could clean my coils for $325. I was like, "No, I just had my coils cleaned." Overall, I like that I can call AHS at any time and have anything done. I feel comfortable calling them if I have a problem. Once, they had to come out for something and it wasn't the right person. On a Friday, they sent the right people out, got everything checked out, and I was happy with it. I also learned a couple of things.

Generally, the coverage is good. It's nice to have the peace of mind that if one of our major appliances breaks, American Home Shield will cover, fix or replace it. But they tend to raise the prices and not give that much notification, which is annoying. The $125 call-out fee has stayed the same though. I appreciate that that hasn't gotten more expensive.
We had a minor roof leak, and the repairman for that was very courteous and knew what he was doing. The AC guy that came to check our HVAC was very good too. Until recently, American Home Shield has been good. We've just had a bad experience, unfortunately, which is sad. Our garbage disposal was defective. We paid the $125 call-out fee to have the person come. But American Home Shield decided not to cover the replacement, even though they marked it for their own scoring and reporting metrics as having been partially covered. We had to pay $300 out of pocket for a new garbage disposal, which was annoying. The plumber was also quite rude and unpleasant to my wife.

My American Home Shield experience has been good. When I pay the fee, they provide me services when I need them and the people have been fair and upfront and handle business and take care of it. I had a claim today on my ceiling fan that had gone out. The connections had gotten loose up in the inside and on the wall. So, somebody came and fixed it. They were good and professional. They gave me a straight answer on what was going on and how to fix it. Overall, AHS takes care of exactly what they say they're going to do. Once you pay your fee and the deductible, they can handle the situation. I had my air unit compressor replaced for $150.

I was happy enough with American Home Shield that I picked them again because they follow up great. There are not too many emails where it's annoying. It's enough that it reminds me to have to log into the account. They're doing the best they can for the product they're selling. We had them on the house before and I was confused on that ‘cause it was already on the app. I was trying to get the app to recognize the new house. I was worried it was gonna get messed up and they were gonna confuse it with the old one. But the claim went through and the repairman got the job done. The only hiccup we had was we're in a dead zone on the phone and he was having a hard time getting it to go through. But he handled it as best as he could, so we were pleased with that. However, when I needed an AC done, a contractor came out and said it was not up to regulation so it wasn't gonna get covered.

AHS, in general, has been good. I was having a leak in the garage and somebody came in and fixed it. Then I had to cash out. AHS gave me some money and I got another company to come and do more details on that roof. But I wasn't too happy with that last company they sent. They came in to do service on the air conditioner before the summer starts. The repairman told me the motor was running the wrong way. He turned off the main power, went in and swapped the wires around, which was weird. He told me I needed to replace the motor and if I'd call his company, they could come back out and repair it. I went through AHS again. They sent that company back out and when the guy did the work, he left the two wires hanging outside the air conditioner which didn't look right. I called that guy back up and asked if he could come back and fix that. He said, "You're gonna have to resubmit a ticket." He never came and I'm still stuck with the two wires.

The people American Home Shield sends are good. We've had a water heater and a dishwasher worked on. Recently, my microwave went out. It's attached to my oven and American Home Shield is supposed to replace it, but they haven't sent the authorization. They've sent four people out here to look at it. They've changed the part six times but it didn't work. I get that they don't wanna replace the microwave and it's stupid that the microwave is attached to the oven. The oven works perfectly. I've asked them to separate the two. They said, no, they'd have to rewire. But it's gotta be cheaper to rewire the oven and the microwave than to buy a whole new unit that's $3,000. I don't need a new oven and a new microwave is 100 bucks. They said they've got to replace the whole thing and give me back what I have now. But it's been months and I'm getting frustrated. Last week, they promised me I would get a thing by Monday.

American Home Shield sent out an AC technician to prepare for the summer. That went well. The technician was very kind and considerate. They showed me a lot of things and was good about educating me on what I needed to do to maintain the AC. But when I had something that was out of code, the lady that I spoke with kept trying to tell me that it was not covered. I continued to argue with her and let her know it was covered, that I had paid for the most expensive warranty that covers things that were out of compliance and I was supposed to receive $250 if I had to move something around. She continued to tell me I was wrong. I had to pull my computer out and found it in the contract. I had to demand somebody to speak to that was higher than her. It took her 10 minutes of continuing to argue with me before she finally let me speak to somebody else. That person finally said, yes, it was covered because I read it to her.
I talked to my handyman and besides going through the attic to redo the plumbing, I decided to run it outside. I was concerned that once I scheduled it, American Home Shield would have tried to squirm out of it because it was too big of a problem to try and get them to even understand that it was covered. I was not pleased with that at all, but I found a way to get it done where I didn't have to worry about submitting a claim, and have them try to deny it. I regret paying for the best warranty because the reason I bought it was to cover some things that was gonna be out of compliance. I'd tell others not to buy the most expensive coverage because it's not worth it. American Home Shield will try to act like things that are out of code are not covered. Buy the one in the middle and you'll probably do fine.

American Home Shield got somebody out to fix my icemaker but they're mostly difficult to deal with. You call them and they immediately wanna take your $100. They wanna send somebody out and tell you that your item isn't covered. They don't return calls or you can never talk to anybody directly. You can't talk to a supervisor. I called there and got a live person who took care of my issue immediately. But other times I've called there for other things and they find reasons that something's not covered. I had a toilet that went bad, and when the contractor came out, American Home Shield said they couldn't cover it. My toilet had automatic flush mechanisms on it and they don't cover that type of automated system. I complained about that and they credited me back my $100.
One time, I called them about my refrigerator. They determined that the compressor was bad and that it would be covered under warranty. I had to go and contact the warranty company and get the manufacturer to get that taken care of. I live in a condo building that requires certificates of insurance from the vendors, and I had a difficult time getting certificates of insurance from the vendors that I've talked to a couple of times. I'd love to quit paying them but air conditioning units in my building are about $10,000 if that goes bad. I'll get stuck with a big bill.

We had two routine tune-ups of the heating and the air conditioning thru American Home Shield. I appreciated their reminder for us to do so. Then we had a plumbing issue in the faucet in one of the showers. That was resolved very quickly. We also had a refrigerator, and we thought one of the parts was broken. It was not in the end, but we needed to replace a little canister with the cooling system that we didn't know how to do, and they did. All of the times, it was very easy to contact American Home Shield through the website. Soon after, somebody else called us from whatever company it was that they had asked to come and fix our problem, and they were all nice.
In general, we've had very good experience with them. Some of the people that they send to us to fix things have tried to offer their services independently from American Home Shield but that's not American Home Shield's problem. The biggest issue I have with American Home Shield is the price part. They charge you a yearly or monthly fee to have them as your home warranty company. But on top of that, when you call for any kind of service, you have to put $100 upfront. I could do without them and just call a plumber whenever I need one. But with the refrigerator, I called Whirlpool first, and they were going to charge me more than the $100 to come fix my problem.

The techs came out last month and did a springtime tune-up. American Home Shield offers a free tune-up in the summer, check your AC in the spring and check your heat in the fall. It’s good. It saves them and us calls, and gets your system tuned up. They can find issues early on rather than waiting until a repair needs to happen and it costs more. At a previous property, I called AHS for AC issues, plumbing issues and a leaky pipe. Sometimes it's not the best turnaround based off the providers they have in the area, but the issues have always been resolved prior to anything major going on.

In our experience, American Home Shield will delay and deny claims for big ticket items, such as AC units. Last August, in the height of a central Texas heat wave, our THIRTY year old AC unit (manufactured in 1993!) quit working. We logged a service request with AHS, but 48 hours later, not a single AHS service provider had responded. At our request, AHS then approved a local vendor to assess the unit. The vendor found it to be unrepairable and quoted a replacement unit. They attempted to reach AHS with the diagnosis in order to move forward with replacement. I tried to reach them. After probably 10+ calls over 8 days, we got through to AHS and provided them with the diagnosis. They said they needed management to approve the replacement and would let us know. We waited.
Finally, after nearly two weeks of 110+ degree temperatures, no AC, and guests arriving for the weekend, we simply had to move forward with getting a new unit without AHS's response. AHS then denied the reimbursement claim because "they had not provided prior authorization for the replacement". I'll reemphasize that this was a THIRTY year old unit, AHS had pre-authorized us to use the local company, and prior to replacement AHS had been provided a diagnosis. We were left paying for the entire AC replacement despite trying to follow their process and having been a customer in good standing for over two years.

The companies they contract for repairs are not flexible with their times and do not try to accommodate the customers' needs. I've used it before because we had American Home Shield in our previous home in North Carolina. So I'm used to either going on to the app or going on to the website and looking up the status of my claim. I'm able to input requests for them as well. The most recent time I was in there was when the welcome guy called me to walk me through my policy and all that's covered. He showed me how to navigate from the home in North Carolina and the account here for Texas.
The welcome guy also recommended an option where American Home Shield will send someone to rekey all the exterior doors of my home. A couple of weeks later, I ended up taking him up on that offer and had him set that up. It was a really easy phone call. I just called him back, and he was able to schedule it for me. I discovered that AHS doesn't like to pay out on claims that are very expensive. I have called them about my A/C compressor repair since April 16th. They never ordered the part, and was told a different story every time I called. The first representative said that they would order it, next day I called and was told the contractor would order it. Then the next day was told that they would order it. They finally ordered the compressor on the April 26th. When I asked them why it took so long to place the order I was told they had to find it. The contractor they use is just as bad as AHS, neither one of them talk to each other. The contractor American A/C in SA TX, They put in the system that I would be responsible for $150.00 dollars additional cost.
AHS said, "No. You don't have any additional charges." Ben the representative said he would talk to the contractor, never did. What they do is they don't document anything of importance that you tell them only that you called. So when something goes wrong they say we don't have any notes on that. Had to wait 30 hours for a supervisor (Pete) to call me back. He was no help, He told me that the part is not expected to come in until May 6th, this all started April 14th. So here we are waiting on a part that they should have ordered days ago and they wouldn't overnight the compressor to the contractor, even though this is their screw up. This company is not very responsive and everyone should be very careful when dealing with them.
Yesterday the representative told me that he doesn't see any notes that I wanted the repair and I could ask for a cash out option. Which I was never offered. So I told him since I am calling in every day wanting to know about the status of the repair he told me "I don't see any notes that you wanted it repaired." That you can't believe that just because I am calling every day doesn't mean anything. Today Pete told me to go and buy some window units and they would pay me back, I told him that, "I don't believe that you would reimburse me and I am not going to waste my time." He wrote that down right away that I didn't want to do that.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

Do not use AHS! This review should be -1000! I had 2.5 months of waiting for a repair. Techs making appts then not showing up, or moving apps, or sending me pictures that they showed up at an unscheduled time with a picture while driving by my house. I spent 2 days staying home all day waiting for the last 2 appts. only to be stood up again. One time I received a picture that was supposed to be my house while driving by but wasn’t even in the area I live. Too many calls, too many automated messages both text and email stating appts only for techs not to show. Too many calls to AHS customer service. Too many calls to Sears (the techs they sent out). All while paying for a service I was not receiving.
The final straw was when they did not show up on 2-15-24. I called and cancelled not only the appt since it was after the scheduled time of 8-12 pm but also the AHS Home Warranty. Meanwhile even after I cancelled, AHS continues to call me and continues to bill me. I have had to block their calls and emails. I have moved on- I purchased another washer and dryer. I will no longer purchase any Sears product. I also will no longer purchase a home warranty. If you want to play games with service calls and waste your time, this is the company for you- AHS!

AHS is a rip off! I placed an order for repair of my dryer and ice maker that's attached to my refrigerator. The guy came out and said that he placed an order for the parts needed to repair my dryer. He said he would be back to correct. He also worked on my ice maker and said it was fixed however, we waited a few days and still no ice. When the repair company called to schedule the repair of the dryer I advised that the ice maker still did not work. The last said that because they closed the order that AHS would be to place another order. I informed the repair company that I'd prefer a different tech to come out since the previous tech did not fix it.
Needless to say they sent the same tech. He did something to the dryer and left without word. Next thing I'm getting a letter from AHS saying that my dryer was no longer covered due to neglect on our behalf! Wait what! How is that possible when just the previous work order a part was needed to repair it! Now all of a sudden is due to neglect on our behalf! That is plain rubbish!!! Then they said they had to come back to fix my ice maker and 3 weeks later still no one! My order was closed out! This is a SHAME! Only for my contract to expire days later! They now want me to renew for 50% more a month! You gotta be kidding me! This is the best scam going for homeowners! BEWARE!!!

Original: One of the worst home warranty services. Home warranty desperately wants my money without neither fixed good service and or replaced. AHS has not been doing well with my dishwasher and cooking oven range since last year Oct and Nov. I have to call many times since last year. Their dispatchers PJ appliances are fraud and steal. They uploaded fake pictures; kitchen doesn't belong to me. Not my own cooking oven range. Escalation calls back request with Kate ** #** and PJ appliance 301 275-4174. We have an ongoing problem with American Home Shield as it relates to our bathroom toilet. I have made several complaints about the toilet. We originally called American Home Shield stating that the toilet was not flushing correctly. They sent someone out and he changed out a part in the toilet and said everything was fine. Later, I noticed wet spots on my floor under the toilet. I called American Home Shield again. The service tech came out and said that something was wrong with the water pressure and that I had a crack in the bottom of the toilet.
At this time my floor had began to buckle from the water damage. I called someone else to see if anything was wrong with my water pressure and they said no. I then called American Home Shield and they sent someone else out. The tech said I did not have a crack in my toilet. Because the bathroom is hardly used I didn’t know that it was leaking again and my floor is worse. I called American Home Shield again and the tech came out and said I have a crack in the toilet. Now it is the same tech that said I didn’t have a crack in the toilet. I was contacted and was told that it would cost $400 to fix it.
I called American Home Shield to find out why did we have to pay that amount? They said because the company put in excessive force to the toilet. I then called the company they said they did not put that in that American Home Shield said that to keep from having to pay to fix the toilet. I called AHS back and told them what the contractor said. I told her the stories were not matching up. So with AHS on the phone it was a back and forth until my husband and I kept giving each other the phone because we were getting frustrated. We have had several contractors come out over the year since 2016 and they will tell us that AHS is a rip off and do not want to pay to fix your items.
I do not understand why we have to pay for something that we have been repeatedly complaining about. We should not be responsible for this expense and my floors should be replaced. I made a previous review and someone from the company told me to email them. I have tried several times and I keep getting a message back saying that the email cannot be delivered. My contract does not say anything about the bottom of the toilet and a crack in a porcelain toilet.
Now moving to my washer.. The tech came out with his daughter in the car. He was here a good 5 minutes came in my house without shoe covers he was here less than 5 minutes he rambled off 3 things that could be wrong. He did not put the work order in until AHS contacted him. I have been without a washer for almost 3 weeks now minus a few days. I contacted AHS today and they were not able to reach him (I wonder why)?
Now moving to my AC unit upstairs one of 3. Last year they came out repeatedly very unprofessional. One guy from the company would come out do nothing. We would call back they would send someone from the same company. The problem would go on and on. AHS put in the wrong work order so when they would come out they wouldn’t do any work because the work order was incorrect. Last week we had the same problem the guy came out put freon in the unit it worked for 1 day we called another guy came out and said the other guy put too much freon in the unit and it overheated. Now we paid the $700 to fix the AC unit. Don’t start me on the garage and the guy asking me to left the door up and he put an hole in my wall. Don’t get me started on the regenerator. The microwave they gave me is broken but calling them to get that fixed is causing me anxiety.

TLDR; manipulated me into not getting a second opinion so that they could tell me later I was out of the time frame to request one and then lied about covering replacement of AC. Awful experience. My AC was not keep the house cool. It was blowing cold, but never cooling the home by more than 3-4 degrees. I opened a claim, and their technician came out to diagnose the problem.
The technician said the system was old, and he could not find a specific cause but after looking at run time on my Sensi app confirmed there was an issue—it was running for up to 20 hours a day. He recommended full system replacement. Three or four days later, I get notified that the diagnosis is to replace the compressor and I will be out of pocket $1,330 for coolant because they only cover $10/lb and R-22 has skyrocketed in price since it is no longer manufactured.
Two problems with that:
1) The compressor is fine, if it wasn’t it would not be blowing cold.2) There is a line in my contract that states upgrades are a covered cost if it is required to bring a system to current refrigerant standards as part of a repair. R-22 is substandard.
I ask for a second opinion, my contract states I have 7 days from diagnosis to do so. Customer service tells me that instead, they will open a case with their “escalation team” and I should try working with them so I don’t have to pay a second dispatch fee if $125 if it can be avoided. Makes sense to me. I played phone tag with the escalation team member that my case was assigned to for almost three weeks. Each time she would call while I was at work with a client. She has no direct contact number so I cannot call her back. She emails me to confirm my contact information. I email her back several times to confirm the I formation is correct and to try and schedule a time we will both be available. No reply from her.
Then, I finally get someone who will transfer me to the escalation team (previously I had repeatedly been told this could not be done). I’m fed up at this point. Well, I tried to do it their way. Once again I ask for a second opinion and am told that because I am out of my seven day window that is no longer a possibility. I challenged that because I had requested one within days of getting the diagnosis. After almost 29 minutes on hold so she can “review the notes” she asks why I didn’t want to do the upgrade and get a new unit. I was unaware they were willing to do this. At this point I start recording the conversation. She explains that my system will be replaced at no out of pocket cost to me, except for any cost of coolant to charge the new system after the $10/lb that AHS will cover.
She transfers me to another team that will help me schedule the replacement. Except, that team is a third party company that contracts with AHS and informs me that AHS will only provide a “credit” of $707 leaving me out of pocket for thousands. I call back and the cycle continues. There is not a single person you can speak to that has any interest in helping you. They all just repeat the same script like their lives depend on it. No one can do anything. No one can help me get a second opinion, no one can help me get the system replacement I was told I was eligible for. Buyer beware; predatory business practices and customer service trained to make you so upset you WANT to pay out of your own pocket just to never have to talk to them again.

I requested a repair for my HW heater on March 28. They charged my bank account the fee of $109.50 the very same day. They told me that they would notify me when they found a contractor. After a few days I called back. They said that they had not found a contractor yet. I told them that I didn't have hot water and they said they could request an escalated request. After a few more days I contacted them again. They said that they were working on it and they would contact me. Now it's been over a week and still no word. I called back a 3rd time and spoke to a lady on the phone. She put me on hold 3 times and said she had emailed 3 different contractors. To which she had no success. She apologized for not being able to find a contractor to come out.. She said they were working on hiring more contractors.
At this point I requested to cancel the request and to cancel my contract. She connected me with that department. The girl asked me why I wanted to cancel. If it was because of the HW Heater issue. I told her yes. She proceeded to tell me that they were a good company and I should give them another chance. After about 20 minutes of her not taking NO for an answer I gave in and told her I'd keep for now. I had requested my service fee to be refunded, she told me it would take awhile. (They managed to take it out of my bank account immediately and now I have to wait for them to return it.) Took over a week to receive it. Now 3 weeks & still no HW and no contractor, I decided to call back again. I talked to a guy name J, to ask if I got my own contractor would they accept that. He informed me that I had to have an open request to which I didn't have. He wanted me to go back through the process again.
I explained to him the situation that I had already done that to no avail were they able to find a contractor. He then said he could escalate the request. I told him I had already done that. He just kept repeating it over & over. I told him several times that I didn't want to go through this again and that it had already been over 2 weeks trying to get this resolved. I got frustrated and hung up on him. I continue to get calls from them. I finally got a message from a lady named Anne that the work order (request) was gonna be closed since they had not heard back from me.
I called again and spoke to a man named ERV. I explained the situation to him and he tried to convince me to request it again. I told him that I didn't want to keep it and requested that I speak to a representative to cancel my contract. He connected me to a guy named Doriel. I had to keep repeating myself over & over. I had told him I wanted a cancelation and a confirmation #. He totally ignored what I was saying & just went into his same spell. I repeatedly requested a cancelation and confirmation #. But he continued to ignore the situation. I told him I would do whatever it takes to get my contract canceled.

I had my air conditioning tune up and the rep found that one of my pieces was faulty. So we took care of that too, which saved me a headache in the middle of summer in Florida. The compressor was in rough shape. I called up American Home Shield and then they okayed it. The rep had the part in the car and swapped out the piece. He was a pretty good guy. We were candidly joking and he went right to work. He was no nonsense. He did what he was supposed to do. He didn't try to do anything more or less. He could have said nothing, and then when it died, he could have got another call again in three months. But right up front, he told me what was wrong. So that was pretty cool. He works for them only, which is good. He's not off side hustling. So he did a good job. We're very happy.
Overall, American Home Shield has been pretty fair about everything. Their website is pretty good. Once I sign in, they're pretty specific about where to go and set up your appointment and then they get right back to you. I get the things for the air conditioner and tune up for free, so I use it. They get somebody out right away. I've had my garage door things done a couple of times because the springs were broken. The guys that came out were pretty cool. I've had good luck with the company.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU LIVE IN A RURAL AREA - IT'S A SCAM! Bought a warranty for my mother's house in rural Michigan. Put in a service request for her fridge and they couldn't find anyone to fix it. Said we could look, we couldn't find anyone and paid out of pocket. Had an issue with her furnace. Called for a list of approved providers, they wouldn't provide one and we couldn't find anyone who took AHS and paid out of pocket again. Called to cancel contract and ask for full refund.
After endless script entries trying to get me to keep it, they refunded the service fee for the fridge but refused to refund the monthly premiums and CHARGED ME A $21.95 fee to cancel a contract that was worthless. This was false advertising of the highest order. AHS claimed they covered the area (a competitor wouldn't provide a quote because they were honest and said they couldn't provide coverage in her area), took my money knowing they could never provide service to her area. I have had American Home Shield for over 15 years for the same house. The service continues to be worse and quality technicians continues to decline. The last straw is my toilet I reported has a hairline crack with evidence of slow leak and the technician they assigned Dnb Home Services was the worst company to date. Not only did he refuse to repair/repair the toilet, he never made an attempt to call it into AHS to get advice on what he can do to fix the toilet. This was back on Nov 24, 2023. Mind you this is a guest 1/2 back so this toilet is not used regularly.
Today I see it with evidence of leakage with the stains around the toil and wet in the grout. I called AHS and the offshore customer service, Daniel was beyond rude. He refused to escalate and demanded I pay for another work order of $100 to get a plumber out. The risk is the next plumber might not fix the toilet again then I'm out $200 dollars with zero resolution to my problem. It is time to cut the cord and shop for another plan that actually will help homeowners maintain their home.

We only had AHS for 4 months before we cancelled due to gross mistreatment, misconduct, and lack of service fulfillment. In March 2024, we requested service on our water heater. A contractor was assigned and came to our residence. Said contractor was at my house for 15 mins, tops. All he did was vacuum around the little area and leave. After he left, the water temp went from room temp warm to ice cold. Upon seeing the contractor marked the job as “complete” and closed the ticket, I called the contractor and asked them to re-open the ticket because the job was not done. The verbal assault laid upon me by the owner of that business was such that I, immediately, called AHS to request the ticket be re-opened and assigned to a different contractor because I didn’t feel comfortable having the other one return.
I made it clear that if the first contractor did return, there would be legal issues due to the way I was treated on the phone. I was told by AHS I’d have to pay another service fee even though this was still the same issue and it wasn’t my fault that the contractor just wanted to collect a quick paycheck without actually working. After debating this fact with the AHS rep, I finally got my service fee waived and a new ticket open. I expressed my concern that the same contractor would be assigned, but was ensured there were notes for the dispatch team to find someone else. I was told to give them 48 hours to find someone else. 48 hours later, I get a notification that the exact same contractor had been assigned. I called AHS, right away, and told them to find someone else. I was informed by the rep that there were no other contractors listed so they can’t give me someone else.
I asked if I could hire my own contractor and send the bill to AHS since this was an extenuating circumstance. I was told I had to get approval for that and it would take another 48 hours. I agreed to it, but when I called back, I was upset to learn I could not get approval because there was a contractor available—the original contractor whom I, specifically, requested not to come back to my property due to the verbal assault laid upon me when I told them the job hadn’t been done. AHS pretended to sympathize with my plight and asked me to give them another 48 hours to get approval for someone else to come out. Needless to say, that cycle continued until today (the date of this review). Meanwhile, I have absolutely no hot water and have had to bathe, do dishes, etc. in literal freezing water while it’s 45° outside.
I’ve expressed these facts over and over to every single AHS rep I talk to and not one of them has actually helped me resolve the issue. I just keep getting told that I need to give them 48 hours to find someone else or to get approval for an outside hire. One rep even said he could see now why I was “behaving this way,” a statement that was not only unnecessary, but wildly unprofessional and inappropriate. I called, yet again, today—over 30 days from when the service was requested—and said this has gone on too long. By being unwilling to fulfill my service request in an appropriate capacity within a reasonable time, AHS has broken our contract. I requested to cancel and obtain a full and complete refund of our 4 months of service plus the service fee, but the rep I spoke with attempted to trap me into keeping the contract by using scare tactics such as “if any appliance breaks down [I] won’t have a home warranty to cover it.”
First of all, AHS isn’t even close to the only home warranty on the market. Second of all, using tactics like that is offensive to my sensibilities and unprofessional. When I insisted we cancel, the rep then had the nerve to say that I would have to pay a cancellation fee, which is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. If we were cancelling because we no longer wanted AHS, that would be one thing. But we cancelled because of AHS’s gross negligence, misconduct, and mistreatment of my money, my contract with them, and myself. AHS has done nothing but try to take advantage of me by allowing only one contractor to be on call, which monopolizes the industry in that regard. Additionally, AHS has attempted to bait me into keeping a hollow contract with them by promising things that never come to fruition. The primary example of this being the runaround of “wait for 48 hours” every time I called.
I have been completely betrayed and our contract should be considered null and void after the 30 day mark of no attempt to help resolve my service request. AHS owes me a refund for the abhorrent way I’ve been mistreated and strung along just so they can steal my money with nothing to show for it. AHS is nothing more than a hollow company with sinister morals, incompetent employees, and unprofessional ethics. If you value your money and sanity, steer very clear of this company. I would say that I expect AHS to respond to me with more excuses that victim-shame me, but, given their track record and lack of concern toward my very serious issue, I don’t expect them to do anything at all, which is the only thing they seem to know how to do.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I've been having issues with American Home Shield and I'm not happy. The other day, they sent me a message saying that I need to do the tune-up on my AC system because if I didn't do it and it broke down, they're not gonna be responsible. I called and paid $100 for the AC tune-up and the AC company came, checked a few things, told me everything was okay, and left. A few days later, my drain system was blocked and this system has a water tray under the filter. When the water went up, it got to the sensor of the tray and it stopped the system.
I called American Home Shield to let them know and they said I have to pay another $100 to send the company back. I told them I thought the drain system is part of the tune-up and they said they need to call the company and this and that. A few days later, I received an email saying that they would not cover the drain system. I stayed without an AC for a day because I didn't know what to do and then I did the repair myself but I damaged the filter and had to replace it which cost $50.
Before this happened, my refrigerator handle broke and they sent a company. The tech checked the handle and he said it was our fault because we grabbed the handle and we put it up too hard or something like that. Why is it our fault if the part is plastic and it's gonna break one day? I used to pay $75 and AHS used to come and fix everything and they never complained. Now, the quote went to $100 and they don't want to fix anything. They just want me to pay $100 anytime I call and they don't do the job. I'm trying to find another insurance.

I had a poor experience when submitting a claim to American Home Shield. It’s not really them. A lot of times, it’s their vendors. AHS seems to push things through but if I have a problem with the vendor and the vendor doesn't pick up their phone, I call them. I had a really bad experience with Home Shield a couple months ago when it came to my hot water heater. I'm looking for a different insurance now because of it. I needed a hot water heater. Mine started leaking in my home. I called Home Shield and they got somebody to call me within 24 hours, which was nice but the vendor itself was very complicated to work with.
I have children in my home and the vendor was unable to tell me how long I need to be out of my house because we didn't have hot water for over two weeks. It was a very complicated process, and I couldn't get any answers. I felt Home Shield, being who I'm paying a policy to, would be able to at least call the vendor for me, but they said that they couldn't. They find them and then it's up to the vendor to deal with the customer. Customer service was not awesome, and it was stressful. The lady was super rude. I tried to ask for her manager, and then when the manager did call me back, it was a week later.
The resolution took about two weeks because I had to keep going to the vendor and be super persistent with the vendor because Home Shield wouldn't help me expedite it. Then there was a concern for mold, and Home Shield didn't help out at all. They were like, “Well, you need to go to the vendor and see who's their maybe mold specialist is.” So, I was like, “What the hell am I paying…?” I had to pay $1,000 deductible, which was fine, but I was like, “What the hell do you guys do there? I pay you all this money to do, like hook me up with people I could do that off Angie's List.”
It's kind of how it's always been with Home Shield, but I've always kept it in case something big goes out like an air conditioner. But any time I've dealt with them, it's never been pleasant. A garbage disposal went out a couple of years ago, and it was just me doing all the legwork. I try not to complain too much in my life, but it was awful. As a matter of fact, I called in for my dryer. It stopped working. They didn't call me back, and I got so frustrated with Home Shield that I went out and bought my own washer because I didn't wanna deal with them. I only pay 60 bucks a month, which seems reasonable to me if something massive goes out, but I'm not getting anything for that $60. I end up having to do it all.

AHS was tue worst experience ever! Some of the assigned vendors are the worst at what they do, check the reviews before the come to your come. Worst of all AHS will quote you a price for service, make a concession to reduce the charge and then bill you the full amount. And when you call to inquire, they act like the conversation never occurred. Don’t waste your time and money. You are better off setting aside the money you pay them for a rainy day fund for any future breakdowns.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

So far, so good. I've had two of their contractors come out. When someone comes and does business with me, they say, “You should get that checked. You should call your warranty company and see if that's under warranty as well.” When someone tells me something like that, I appreciate it ‘cause they go beyond what they are out to do and show interest and professionalism in their work. My last experience was with Kyle's Plumbing. Two plumbers came out and fixed the issue. They noticed another plumbing issue and asked me if I wanted to call American Home Shield back and see if that was under warranty, which it was. They came right back out and fixed the problem for me. With American Home Shield, I've had good people come out and fix whatever it was that was under warranty.

Hornet came for my dishwasher. It wouldn't cut on. I've had the same issue with this dishwasher numerous times, and I told American Home Shield about it but they had to come back because it didn't work even after they said they fixed it. It has something to do with the drain plug. I was completely over it. It works now. The guy that I've dealt with was personable and I had no issue with him. My issue is with American Home Shield and not the contractor.
The people from AHS are robots. They don't listen. Common sense would cure a lot of the ills. If I'm showing a pattern of something with the same appliance, they should listen. I paid $85 payment four times. I could have bought a new dishwasher by it. I told them, "Go look at the records. Go look at whatever the contractors you bring out here send back to you. It's the same issue over and over. It's just a Band-Aid," but they don't listen. I'd tell others to avoid AHS.

Sears HVAC came out and they checked the status on my furnace. They found out that it was a clogged filter, and they changed the filter and then checked a few wires, then they turned it on. The tech came out on time. He's a professional and he did everything. He didn't charge me anything. It didn't cost me anything except for what I paid into my Home Shield. He did a great job. He's very good at explaining and giving knowledge on it. It was a good experience.
I did the claim to American Home Shield by phone. I set it up on a phone app. The turnaround time was accurate and quick. It was the same day service. When I put it on the app, they responded about two seconds later and said the guy would be out to check the furnace for me. I had another experience with my plumbing and I wasn't happy with that. I had my experience with my pipes bursting, and they didn't cover anything on that. And the thing is they didn't make it clear that if it's a pipe busting by weather condition, due to the cold, then they couldn't cover it. Other than that, the customer service was great. I would recommend AHS. They're good home warranty.

My roof is leaking. I have a gold plan + roof leak protection. I contacted this company almost 10 days ago but nobody has contacted me yet. I've almost spent over 5 hours on phone or chat to ask them at least give me an update regarding the case. But the only thing they say is just wait for 24 hours. The deadline is meaningless because nothing will happen and they will ask you to wait another 24-hours! They never contact me regarding their terrible service, so I have to contact them and they only say "we understand but you need to wait". They always try to buy time with different excuses. After couple days they told me they are going to change the contractor but again nobody contacted me and when I called them they told me I shouldn't have allowed them to change the contractor because they don't have other contractor available which is the funny thing! Roof leaking won't wait for them to fix it but they don't understand this!
My dishwasher was broken and it took months for them to take care of the problem. Me and my wife had to wash all the dishes by hand. At the end they offered us a limited list of dishwashers to choose but none of them were a good option for us so we had to choose a reimbursement option and had to pay for the installation however the reimbursement was not enough and we had to spend double amount for the dishwasher and its installation service out of pocket. I've saved all the chats and calls with them. Let me know if you have any questions.

I called American Home Shield for the first time. I had a leaky faucet. I turned off the water from underneath and I don't know what happened, but then water started gushing up from the bottom. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a leaky faucet and that there was a leak under my sink. When Nussbaumer came out, all the tech did was tighten the valve on the bottom and did nothing to the sink from the top. So, then I called American Home Shield. They said, “That would have been two separate claims.” I said, “No. It's all connected in one bathroom. One sink, one faucet, one drain, all of it.” So, they were gonna make me pay another copayment.
At that point, I was gonna cancel my insurance and just call a plumber but then the lady was nice enough to tell me, “Okay. I'll send them out.” The other guy that came out was Water Hole Plumbing. He was amazing. He came in. He changed the valves underneath. He ordered parts for the faucet. The guy from Nussbaumer did nothing. He said it didn’t need to be fixed and the job was completed. The faucet has been better because Water Hole changed the guts inside of it. It's just it would have been better if they would have changed the whole faucet. I was extremely happy with Water Hole Plumbing when they came out.
I like that AHS is quick about getting somebody to come out here. It's just sometimes the people that they send out will give you a timeframe between 12:00 and 4:00, and you're sitting here waiting all day. They should give you a little bit of a heads-up. They should give you the 12:00 to 4:00, but say, “Okay. It's gonna be closer to 2:00 or closer to 3:00.” That would be a lot better because you don’t have to spend your whole day waiting for them.

We had an issue with our heating pump system, and I feel like all the HVAC companies that American Home Shield uses are not very customer-friendly. We got three different diagnostics from three different companies for one issue. The first company that came said the condenser was bad on the outside unit and they were gonna charge us 3,500 for Freon. We went with another option and American Home Shield sent H&J. When their tech came out, he did his part, but then it got to a point where he said there was nothing they could do. I think there was a part that needed to be replaced and he never replaced it. Then we went to a third company and they said the heater boiler in the inside was bad. If we wanted to replace that and the outside unit, it would be 5,000. It was a whole long process.
I've dealt with the plumbing side of the American Home Shield and that went very smooth but when it comes to HVAC, all three companies that they sent to our house were not really honest. But they're very responsive and their turnaround time is fast. They're very prompt and get things done. The problem is the vendors. American Home Shield is sympathetic when we tell them about the bad vendors but I hope that there is follow-up and they are eliminating them from the circulation. I hope they're taking action on the vendors that are problematic so that other people would not have to experience the same thing.

I would give them 0 stars but that is not an option. In August 2023 I had an issue with the a/c unit. I was informed that it could not be just replaced, that I would have to replace the HVAC unit along with the a/c. I paid my noncovered part which was over 3k. The A/C unit stopped working. I made a service request. The original company Always GEO took a month to respond. Keep in mind this an approved American Home Shield Company. They came out and stated they will have have another of their technicians take a look at it. Then never heard from them again. For 6 months I have tried to contact them and never a response.
I called American Home Shield 4/8/2024. They informed me that the original was closed and that I would have to pay for another service request which is 125.00. After arguing I relented and paid for it. They wanted to assign it to Always Geo. I declined and requested that another company do the work. Gibson Mechanical was dispatched. After they examined the unit, I was informed that the install was not done properly and that both the Hvac and a/c would have to be replaced. American Home Shield will cover the HVAC and A/C but will not cover the labor cost of 1750.00. I just spent 30mins on the phone with American Home Shield's overseas Call Center that just reads off of a script. Even their supposed supervisors. Not the agent nor the Supervisor comprehend that American Home Shield is accountable for labor since I have already paid for the labor when the other Hvac and A/C were incorrectly installed.
Supposedly someone else will contact me in 48 hours. I'm hoping someone in the company reads this and makes this right. I should not have to pay 1750.00 labor costs to fix an issue created by a American Home Shield approved company. As for the overseas call center Supervisor he lacked sympathy and was unwilling to comprehend the situation. He kept repeating the same script that labor cost is my responsibility under the service contract I have with American Home Shield.

It created a very stressful situation. I called the company, and they said, "The exhaust those type of houses have are very old. American Home Shield has been good. I had a different home warranty prior to them, and they bought it. This is the first year that we've had them. When our HVAC unit stopped working, I had to put in a request for maintenance and it was quick and easy. I just went on to the website and said my heater wasn't working and I needed someone to come out and look at it. They sent someone, and the contractors were great. They had to come out four separate times. The only downside I had with the service was that it took so long. Our heater was out all of January all the way until President's Day. However, I live in Arizona, so it wasn't too big of a deal. We just use little space heaters. Still, it was a long time.
It also sounded like the first contractor that came out was a newer guy ‘cause the second person's game was all about fixing it, whereas the newer person that we originally dealt with just said, “You need a new AC.” So, I was very grateful that the second, more experienced guy came out and was able to say, “No. We just need to tighten these wires.” I don't know exactly what he did, but he went up there and he was able to fix it. I asked him, “Do you think we need a new unit because of this?” He said, “No.” Now, the unit works, and that is the most important thing.

I've had the plan for four years and my deductible costs more than what it would cost to have it fixed. My AC was a part of it. American Home Shield sent someone out recently. And the person they sent out told me that I needed a new compressor and 10 pounds of Freon. My part would be $1,600. AHS would cover the rest of it. I asked him how that was possible because I live in a condo and my unit is small. He said I should go ahead and replace the whole thing. I told him I would get a second opinion from someone else. And they would also give me a refurbished compressor.
When I called somebody else outside of AHS and did my research, my unit only holds 4.5 pounds of Freon. It's not even big enough to hold 10 pounds. And for the same price, they gave me a new compressor. I called AHS and told them I was not happy with who they sent out. They told me that they do all their research and they send out only licensed people. I said, "Not only are they taking advantage of me, they're taking advantage of you as well." They wouldn't hear it.
I asked to discontinue my service and they said I could not. I asked for a refund on that visit because it's still $100. I let it go. The next day, I called them back, demanding to cancel my service, and they said that they couldn't, but they gave me a refund. They told me I had two months left that I had to finish. They kept giving me the same script. I kept asking to speak to someone else. And they told me their supervisor was busy and that they would have to call me back. I told them that I would wait and it was 45 minutes, because I put it on speaker. I was annoyed. And no one came to the phone. It became 5 o'clock.
I called again a couple of weeks later to cancel the program and the person on the phone could not approve that because my contract was filed with someone else. I've been out of pocket my monthly fee. They refunded me that one service fee. But that was cheaper than my two months left. That's why they went that way. And they decided that they would send somebody else out. So, I have one more month. But none of this got worked out until I told them that I was dropping the program.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

My experience has not been very good. American Home Shield seem to promise coverage on everything, and when it would get down to it, their approval department somehow would find a way to say it's not covered. So, I'm not happy with them. The technicians they sent, which I paid for separately, said that the ac units had worn out over time. And they had replaced eight years ago. Now, they told me, "If it's rusted out, the insurance no longer applies." I've been automatically renewed for years.
I've been with them for 20 years and I'm very disappointed that they put in the last one, and now that it's rusted out after eight years, which is not unreasonable since we live close to the ocean in San Diego but they have not been very cooperative in sending any of the technician reports. And they told me to speak to the technician companies. I spoke to them. They said no, they already sent the reports to AHS. And when I spoke to AHS, they told me, "You gotta speak to the contractor who did the work." So, they send me in circles. I get poor quality of service and the cost is too high. I'm about to terminate my relationship with AHS.
They're misleading because they advertise the home protection, "You don't have to worry about anything," and when it gets down to actual coverage, they got four pages of fine print that is difficult to understand. And they don't me you about all the exceptions when they sell the service. Plus, I pay $175 for a technician to come. And they tend to use the low-end contractors. They come and do a little analysis but rarely do any work on it. They send the report into AHS, who would evaluate it, and only then if I met every criteria do they do the work. So, it's a poor investment.

I started to submit my claim with American Home Shield online, but I still needed to talk to somebody because part of it was unclear. So, I needed to have a conversation. Each rep was very helpful. The contractor came in, assessed the thing, and that was it. Once I realized that I would get a new oven, it was only through AHS that I found out that they would replace the oven. The contractor that they sent out never contacted me again to let me know their result. I had to go to AHS to find out what happened.

I have a great experience with American Home Shield. It’s just that sometimes, when I call the customer service rep, it could be a little rough. Other than that, they're great. The contractor had to order parts and come back. I wanted it done that day, but it had to wait another day. It was okay with me. It was just that it lasted more than one day.

Online, I would request a service and American Home Shield would find the best in the market to come and service it for me. They would call me for the scheduling. They're there to be the middleman. The last claim I did was for an issue with my dryer. But it was never resolved because it wasn't part of American Home Shield's things that they do. They just came to see what the issue was and told me that they would call us back with what they would do. But at that moment, they were just there just to see what the issue was so they could report back.
I recommend AHS still. The things that are covered, it's good. Because I don't like to spend much time on researching to different companies to fix the problem. So, it's easier to just have them find the people that they trust to do it. I let them deal with it. Sometime last year I submitted a claim for a water heater. The pilot kept going out. They came in fast, checked on it. They called us back quickly with how they would fix it. They said that they had to order the part, that they would get the part by the end of the week. But we never got a call back at. We had to follow back with them in the midweek of the next week. And they said that they had the part and would call us back to schedule a time for them to come by. That was the only issue. We were forgotten or maybe they got busy. So, it took longer than it should have been. But they resolved that.

AHS does not give an itemization of what is covered. What you do get is the total cost you owe. It’s a shock because they don’t speak in layman’s terms. They say things like “modifications are not covered”. This means that if you have an old system, you will pay for almost half of the cost of the item (such as a furnace replacement) because the system is old and things just don’t match up; they have to be modified. They pay most claims but they never give you the information about the cost of covered breakdowns.
READ and understand the non-covered breakdowns. It’s important to know that you are going to be paying much of the cost out-of-pocket, your pocket. You can request service all you want 24/7 but the service providers don’t keep those hours. You may wait for days without heat in the middle of winter with a furnace breakdown. They claim they give you information so you can budget, but without an itemized cost of what they cover or what you are paying for, it is very difficult to budget with just an arbitrary number that you owe to the service provider who they choose. If the provider they choose doesn't give emergency service (in the dead of winter), then you go without heat.

Everyone who came out to my home was nice but what I don’t like about American Home Shield is that I pay our monthly payment and then, I have to pay for the service call. Then somehow or another, in the last couple of times, I had to pay out of pocket for the parts. So, I was not happy with that. I wound up having to pay $400 for a garage door opener to be installed. If I'm paying insurance for something, it should all be covered.

The repair person from Greenlife Plumbing took forever and kept on lying. We had to wait all day long and he never showed up. I called American Home Shield many times and every time, they called and he wasn't answering the phone. Every time we sent the order, he accepted it. So, we have to keep the same company and that doesn't make sense to me. I was about to leave AHS. If this guy is not providing the service, finding another company is better. But AHS said no. I was losing money. It cost me more than that sitting at home. He finally showed up after a month and did a good job. It was an individual guy. The way he was working, you can tell. Usually, companies don’t work like that. I've never seen this kind of service. Before that, there was another issue with the lightning and I was charged. AHS doesn't cover the porch light. So, they issued me the credit after that. It was okay.
AHS replaced my regulator and I didn't even call after that because they bothered me so much. I lost so much time. I had to make numerous calls to get the service to be done. You pay the service fee and the monthly fee and then just keep on calling them while waiting at home. It was poor service. The guy missed every single appointment in the beginning but he finally showed up. I had to make a couple more calls for the service I needed but because of the stress, I didn't even wanna make a call after that. You hire these companies, so you don't have to find handy people. You just make one call and they take care of it. This is the reason we pay a service fee every month.
The ladies working for the company are nice in the way they talk. But AHS wants to keep with the same companies even if they do not want to do the service. I told them they needed to change the policy and they said it was their company policy. As long as the contractors are accepting their orders, they have to keep the same company. Even if they are not showing up, they have to give AHS the reason why.

In some things, AHS is pretty proficient. But it took them over a week to respond to my request to get our hot water heater approved to even have Dockside Plumbing come out. We went without hot water for 10 days in the wintertime and I was not happy about that. Then, Dockside Plumbing came out and was prepared to do the job, but they were prepared to take advantage of the situation. They're supposed to do it for free under the home warranty but they added all these additional charges that weren't necessary. They said they'd submit the report to AHS and when I got it, they quoted me $1,000 for stuff that was very minimal. I was not gonna pay that because I already had to pay money for AHS to send them out and I could have done it for cheaper myself, which is what I ended up doing anyway. They wanted to charge me $180 for a drain pan that cost 20 and they wanted to charge me almost $600 for some new hot and cold plumbing pipes that I bought at Home Depot for $40. There are a few things I'm not satisfied with so I'm thinking about canceling with AHS in the next little while.

Our dryer needed repair and submitting the claim was professional and smooth. We called AHS and went through their automated system. They kept us up to date with text messages and emails and then we were scheduled a contract worker to come and look at it. He did a great job and he explained things and answered a lot of questions. He gave us lots of details about what to expect. He couldn't really fix it fully, but he gave us some tips on how we could kind of make it work until he was able to replace the part that was necessary. But then during that process of waiting for the new part was when AHS decided to replace it for us. We got an email saying, "Hey, it's time to pick out your new dryer." There were lots of really great choices and we selected one that suited us. It was installed within the timeframe they said and there were no problems.
Also, we had a problem with our heat and air conditioning. AHS was really good about getting that done in a timely manner and connecting with a contractor who could get the job done well. AHS is a great value and it's really useful. I appreciate all the updates they give us as the process is going along and they make sure that we understand that sometimes there would be an out of pocket cost. We're never surprised by a bill or given a different amount and then told to pay something else. It's always very clear. It's all very efficient and well done in that regard.

The guy that came out, Brian, checked it out. Some part needed to be replaced and he said he needed to order it. It took a while and I had called and talked to Michael. He told me it had to be approved first through American Home Shield before they could go and order it. It was gonna be another few more days and I was frustrated with that part. They got the part and put it in but it happened again. They had to come a second time and clear the line. After that, it's been working fine. I was very satisfied. It took a while and a few calls, but Cali. Breeze took care of it.
A while back there was this advertised special that came on my phone. It said American Home Shield does a home inspection of my HVAC system for free once a year so I went ahead and did that. This guy came but did nothing. I know exactly what they would do to check the air conditioning and the heater. This guy would not go up and look at the heater. He did not go and look at the air conditioning. All he did was take the temperature and said everything was fine. I was very frustrated with them. They came from somewhere in Los Angeles. I live in Riverside. There are a lot of people nearby. If someone like Cali. Breeze came, I would have been happy. It could have been that if this guy did his job way back in August, he might have detected something then and not caused it. I called American Home Shield to complain but they did nothing. The heating system upstairs in the attic was not working and when I called American Home Shield, the lady on the phone was very good. But the technician who came didn't speak much so he wasn't very communicative. I was asking what the issue was and he just had very few words. He replaced the part that required to be replaced and then left. The heating system starts working but when the temperature is achieved, it normally stops. And in this case, the issue was that it doesn't. The fan keeps going all night. I called a few times and it was a long wait time for the technician. So, I texted the same phone number where I exchanged the previous text with the same company but there was no response. Then, I eventually called American Home Shield.
I called two technicians within the first month but when I called AHS, it was more than a month. And now, they're saying you pay extra call-out charges, a new claim. Eventually, I got ahold of the technicians and they said American Home Shield needs to authorize it. They are willing to authorize it but they're charging me an extra $100 for the same stuff, which should have been fixed in the first place. I'm asking that the extra $100 does not need to be paid again. It's the same issue. The only reason they're saying is I called them after the 30-day period. But I called the technician within 30 days several times. If AHS doesn't waive it, then I'll look for another service provider. I will not recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

American Home Shield is probably one of the best warranty companies because I've had experience with another one. AHS is the one I would recommend to people. But it's not perfect. There’s never emergency work. So, any time I call, I know it's gonna be two days before I hear from somebody. So, if ever I have some emergency thing, I wouldn't call them. I would call a local person. Also, I don't like the American Home Shield customer service. It's always somebody from another country that doesn't understand or you don't understand them, and they have a horrible recording.
AHS works well except when they put you on hold, they have this horrible song that they use. I've asked them to change it. I had to call them during the ice storm a couple of years ago and they had to put me on these long holds and it wanted to drive me up the wall. And they have not changed that. I've been a customer for four years and it's the same song. I almost quit the business with them because of that. It was so bad. I asked them to please change it and they laughed at me. They don't understand. They're gonna put somebody on hold and I have to listen to it because I don't know when they're gonna pick up again. But I like the contractors that AHS sends out. My disposal was broken and it was a great experience with B.B. Lewis Plumbing. They’ve come out here before. It's one of the contractors that American Home Shield uses and I like them. They fixed it in less than 30 minutes and it has been working perfectly.
There are times when I’ve had something repaired and maybe it continues to drip and they come back out because they give you a 30-day window where they don’t charge you a service fee again. I pay the company monthly for service and then I have to pay a service fee. AHS’ prices have gone up, which is kind of disappointing. I paid them 125 but it used to be $75 and they keep going up. I'm not happy with their price. And one time, they increased and didn't tell me. I almost sold my house and I just renewed but AHS makes you pay. They won't let you cancel. I didn't even sign a contract.
AHS doesn’t cover everything. They've got different packages. So, it's a little disappointing sometimes. But it is good to have especially if you don't know how to fix anything. I know enough people now. So, I could recommend it. But they're gonna pay a little bit more. You have to decide if wanna pay monthly for reassurance just like insurance and pay $500 for the year or if you wanna wait till you have some big thing happen and then pay for 500 for one thing.

I have had American Home Shield for two years and never needed to use the service until recently. It has been a total waste of money and I'm cancelling my service. I filed a claim in late 2023 because my washing machine was flooding. Despite providing the model information, AHS assigned a technician who was not certified or qualified to repair my appliance. That technician alerted AHS of its error and explained to me that AHS would send out another technician. I waited for over a month and then, without any notice, AHS canceled my claim without connecting with me. I had to file another claim on February 6th. I requested my washing machine to be repaired and my dryer to be cleaned. A technician came to my home on February 16th and did not service my dryer at all! He never cleaned the dryer nor did he service the dryer.
He diagnosed the washing machine, told my son he needed to order a part and indicated that AHS would follow up with me. AHS never followed up with me, but I have called AHS repeatedly and escalated the matter. I worked with the escalation team to schedule the service for April 5th. The technician never showed for the appointment and I've now received an email from AHS stating that my appointment has been rescheduled for April 9th - when I will be out of state on business travel. Ironically, my AHS dashboard has completely different information about my service appointments.
I have extreme difficulty connecting with customer service representatives - who are all outsourced. I cannot reach anyone affiliated with the company who is actually in the United States. There is no direct number to contact the escalation team. Each time I call I have to restate my problem - even when I'm being transferred on the same call, I have to restate my problem. My experience has been absolutely horrible. I've paid this company over $1,800 over the past two years and all for nothing. I just gave the money away. I would never recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

If there’s a choice of negative stars I would do a negative stars. But unfortunately 1 star is the lowest. AHS does not even deserve to save 1 star. I don't normally and usually review anybody but this time I have to say something because I am really upset and frustrated. American Home Shield is like any other insurances or warranty service. They’ll give promises just for you to get a policy but when you are in and you request for service(s) they will deny any big projects because it will cause them money. At this instance when I call to request for they answer their calls promptly and send the technicians promptly. But when they go to see and perform diagnostics to the problem and send the report to AHS - AHS will deny the work order.
The only thing in the report that they want to hear or see is the phrase “NOT DUE TO A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR” that’s all they need to see for them to deny the work order. And if you complain, they will offer you a second opinion but the fact remains - your claim will still be denied no matter what. All the report sent to them will be interpreted as NOT DUE TO A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.”
In short the value of this service/warranty/insurance is ZERO comparable to the premium that you pay for every month. Might as well save your monthly premium in a bank account and when things happen you have something to pay for the repair or help with the replacement. Let’s face it, it’s not every day that we need repair in any appliance in our homes. So the premium that we are paying AHS will always go down the drain anyway because they won’t live up to their promises and they won’t repair nor replace as they promised. ITS NOT WORTH IT!
Another thing - the contractors or the technicians that they use are like their puppets - they always do what AHS tells them to do. And AHS will only and always interpret any report as “NOT DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR”. So they can and will deny every claim there is. All that’s important to them is the premium that you pay every month and you do not get anything in return. Again, THE POLICY WITH AHS WILL NEVER BE OF WORTH TO YOU because AHS is not worthy to be trusted. I ended my policy today even if I had to pay the cancellation fee. Paying for the cancellation fee is worth it than continue with AHS.

American Home Shield is a complete ripoff. They tell lies on the companies that they hire. They hire contractors with a 1 star rating. They refuse to pay claims and change the work order for the company that they hire. I just got off the phone with American Home Shield and the company they hired and the company told the AHS representative that that is not what they said and they still refused to pay my claim. In all honesty this company is not worth the money.

I had the premium home warranty with AHS for 2 years, which I used 2 times for appliance repair in the first year. The customer service is awful, however I always had quick and professional service from the repairmen (that were subcontractors or contractors, from local businesses). Renewal time came with incessant calls from them each day. This year, I explicitly said that I would call them back when I was ready to renew. The 5-6 calls per day did not stop. The more I spoke with an AHS representative, the more I wanted to cancel my contract. When I finally did call to cancel, I let them know that there was nothing they could offer me to change my mind. Numerous times they came back offering me more, I was more firm with them and concrete in my decision. Each time they came back with "I respect your decision but." That is not respect, and it's insulting.

I filed a claim for a dehumidifier in a bathroom shower stall. There were no parts that the company sold so they couldn't switch out parts. They were going to try to find parts that might work and wanted to remove the fan and take it to the workshop. That was unacceptable to me because if they can't find parts approved for that particular appliance, it's supposed to be replaced. I also didn't want a hole in my shower stall ceiling where all the humidity would go up into the attic. I had to escalate and talk to a manager several times. It was very annoying, but American Home Shield finally replaced it.
Recently, there was was a bathroom sink faucet that was leaking. It wouldn't completely go off when you turned off the handle. The plumber who came was very competent and did the job quickly. He had to leave and get a part but he fixed everything that same day. American Home Shield is good for plumbing where you would spend $350 every time a plumber comes out, but you only spend your $100 co-pay and they usually can fix that stuff same day. But the amount of time you wait for major appliances is not ideal. There are things that you need like a washing machine or a dryer and it's gonna take three weeks to repair. You end up paying for it yourself because you don't have that time to wait. American Home Shield can take a while to send someone out then that part has to be ordered which is gonna take another week or two. Then you have to set an appointment for them to come back.
We slept on air mattresses downstairs in our living room for two weeks when we didn't have an air conditioner upstairs. It was 110 degrees in the summer and it would take that long to get it fixed. American Home Shield will never replace an air conditioner. They will fix and fix. During the 14 years in the house, for the most part, we would have their contractor out every month for the five months over the summer, and they would never give us money to replace it. We just finally replaced it on our own because we got so sick of dealing with American Home Shield and not have an air conditioner upstairs. The fix would last three to four weeks.

Thirty-two years ago, when we bought a house in Maryland, the owners had American Home Shield and left it as an incentive thing for the new buyers. So, it was already in place and we just kept it going. And when we moved, we set it up again. We knew how they worked. And having it for years, we're familiar with the coverage. In all those places we have lived, AHS has been able to partner with good companies who know they could get their customers elsewhere, but chose to partner with AHS to go through them. That's good because I know if they would use them, they pass muster and they're good. Recently, our AC's evaporator coil went out, and we had to pay for the coverage of the Freon and part of the device itself. But AHS picked a good company that came in. They fixed it quickly and we've been happy with the service.
I submitted the claim over the phone to have a serviceman come, and when he came, he evaluated the system and saw what was wrong, they did the filling out of, "This is wrong. This is what's wrong with their device and they need this, that and the other." They were professional, friendly people. The other servicemen, they had to order the part. And when they came and put it up in the attic, they were very professional and friendly. They put it up and that was it. It took 10 days total from the time they came to when we got the quote on how much things would cost on our end, and the company called us, had to order the part. And when they came, they put the part in.
AHS helps with the extra cost that if people didn't have it that they would have to pay full out of pocket, and they would have to run around and try to find a vendor. They're would not do half done and people would have to chase them down. I may encounter that, but at least I have somebody to go back to and say, "Make them come back out and fix it." If I was not expecting a large sum repair bill, that if it's a covered item, I don't have to worry about it.

Most recently, we had our dryer honked out on us. Prior to that, it was our washing machine. So, we've had a few claims to American Home Shield within the start of the new year. The dryer was repaired the very next day, which was phenomenal service. I was really impressed by that. The washing machine, unfortunately, wasn't able to be repaired. However, we were able to get a brand new one. So, it worked out well. There was a little bit of a delay on getting the new one, but that had nothing to do with American Home Shield. It was just because the timeframe fell when we had that bout of really bad winter weather in January. They were supposed to deliver, but there was so much snow on the ground. So, we ended up having to wait another week. Overall, AHS has always been very good.

American Home Shield's website is user-friendly but calling in is very difficult. Sometimes there's a wait. Because of the issue I had with the refrigerator, I had to call multiple times. It was very difficult to talk to someone who could help me. When I wanted to file a complaint, they told me there's no way to either email a complaint to anyone or to talk to somebody. That the representative was as far as I got. I had to do my own LinkedIn search and found their social media department. I emailed them, and finally they assigned someone to help me.
AHS contracted with a company. They came out three times and couldn't fix it. It was very difficult to schedule with that appliance company. It took them a month and a half to finally decide that they couldn't fix it. AHS wouldn't send me another appliance company. I said, "Can you replace it?" "No, we can't replace it unless this appliance company says it's not repairable." They didn't know what they were doing. They replaced parts. So, it didn't get fixed. I had to put in my own money.
Another claim I had was my heater wasn't working. AHS sent out someone quickly and was able to diagnose the problem. But that was after the issue with the refrigerator when they assigned me someone specifically to help me, someone who I could call, who would return my calls. The rep expedited everything. Everything went well because of her. After the refrigerator, she said if I needed help, I could call her directly. So, that's what I did.

I'm not happy with American Home Shield and I'm trying to find something that expands to other parts of my home like the roof. They have 24-hour access to their customer service but depending on the time, there might be a long period of hold. There's also a lot of "could you repeat yourself" depending on when you're making the call. Another thing is there was a $25 increase in my plan. It was $75 for them to get a technician. Now, it went up to 100 so I try not to utilize them because doing that I feel I'm losing $100 because they're not considering my claim. I've only utilized the services three times but they've only covered one item which was when I had a flood in my basement. But the contractors have been very professional especially the contractors for the air conditioner. They give phenomenal services and are transparent. They even warn me that American Home Shield may not cover it 'cause they see that the issue normally comes over as a non-covered issue.

He looked at it and he said, “Bad news. You need a complete new system. It's gonna be about 12 to 15 grand.” Then I remembered I had American Home Shield and I called them. Their guy came out a couple days later. I said, “Do we have heat?” He said yes. I asked him what it was. He said, “There were some critters in there.” He cleaned out all the carcasses, and the heat fired right up. So, that was a great experience. We went from 15 grand to $100. It was unbelievable.

We had another claim a while back on our refrigerator. The contractor came out, told me what was wrong with it, and fixed it pretty quick. Pro Line Appliance and Repair went above and beyond. They were better than anybody else American Home Shield has sent out. The guy, Ronald, went the extra mile to make sure that everything was working properly. The first time, he replaced my ice maker then had a similar issue to where the water was still overflowing and causing blocks of ice within the ice gaps. He completely redid the back side of it and everything has been fine since. I've had seven other people come out before him and American Home Shield kept trying to charge me another $100 because it was beyond 30 days. But it was the same problem. All the others did was make excuses to make money because they didn't know what they were doing. If I had to have anything done again, Pro Line is who I would have do it. But I'm not very satisfied with American Home Shield. I'm looking to change to another company.

I put the wooden piece back but the problem was that every time you try to close the door, it keeps opening by itself. So, all the tech had to do was come out and adjust the chain. He showed me what to do in case it happens again, and that was it. It took less than five minutes. I called American Home Shield to file my claim. They sent me the information through an email and I called them to set up a time when I was gonna be at home. American Home Shield is a great organization. They're a little pricey, but if you want the best, it's gonna cost you. They cover what they say they're gonna cover. They send somebody out that's a professional and does not fool around. American Home Shield has done some good things so I've kept them for years. I had an old refrigerator and they gave me a couple of hundred dollars for it. But they've gone from $49 to $99 a month. I don't think it's worth it to me. I'm thinking about canceling them because the last couple of times their contractor came out, they didn't fix what was wrong. I have a washing machine and it would leak sometimes. I called them and they sent somebody out who replaced some things. I thought they did a good job. But a week or so later, I noticed that it was leaking still.
I called American Home Shield again. They sent the people out again and they replaced more things. But it was leaking again. By that point, I've gone past the 30 days so I had them come out and it cost me 100 bucks again. American Home Shield has never sent anybody out that I thought was sketchy or didn't know what they were doing. With the washing machine, it just didn't fix. But they replaced almost everything on that washing machine so I don't know why it still occasionally leaks underneath. I also had a contractor come out because the lights in my kitchen over the island and over my breakfast table flicker. They said, "I don't think we can fix it because you would have to rewire. It's probably the lights, not the house itself."

I've had great experience with American Home Shield. The plan and the coverage is awesome and the deductibles, because you choose them on your own, is wonderful. I like that about them and that I'm always able to get someone on the phone. Also, getting someone out is pretty quick. It's immediate to get someone assigned and then it's up to you to connect with them and schedule an appointment, which is out of American Home Shield’s hands and can lead to a problem because being reassigned to someone is hard to do if you run into a issue or they don't have any openings.
The only issue I've ever had was troubleshooting issues between myself and the assigned contractors and resolving those issues in a timely manner. I recently had something that took months for them to resolve because the contractor was saying one thing that seemed to be contradicting what I was saying. AHS is like the middleman and it can drag out their ability to resolve a issue in a timely manner. That only happened one time, though, and I've used them for years. Also, phone calls can take long, depending on how long it takes to answer a phone. But I like calling sometimes because if I have a question or something, they can resolve it. I've had issues before and they've been able to work resolution and I didn't have to pay an additional deductible. Calling can be beneficial.

American Home Shield serves the purpose. However, there were some isolated cases last year that I sent for dispatch. The garbage disposal was clogged. The guy who was there said it was just clogged. Of course, it would clog because it could not grind anymore. He just removed the clog and I paid the dispatch fee. After two weeks, it broke again. That dispatch I had with that garbage disposal turned out to be more expensive. I did it twice but it was the same thing. I was tired of calling American Home Shield because their contractor was gonna remove the clog again and I would have to pay for the $100 fee. I ended up getting an external contractor replacing that disposal.

I set up a claim for the furnace online and it was was simple. In less than 24 hours, American Home Shield responded to me and contracted EJ's to provide the service. EJ's contacted me within 48 hours and someone came out here the following day. They told me what was wrong, ordered a part, and told me it would be 10 to 14 days and they would have someone come and install it. But that didn't happen.
After the 10 to 14 days, I called and they said they still didn't have the part. I asked if they had a projection of when the part was gonna arrive and they told me they don't have contact with the company where they received the part from. Also, I asked for a shipping number where I could track it and they said they didn't have that. I got off the phone with them and called American Home Shield and reported it. They called EJ's and then called me back and told me the same thing EJ said. The part hadn't arrived and someone would call me. This was in January when the temperatures were below freezing and I told them I had to to go to a hotel because I couldn't stay at my house. They said they understood.
Two more weeks passed and I had been calling EJ's to ask if the part had arrived. The rep said they don't know when it was gonna come in. They'd call me when the part comes in and I'd have to wait until it does. I called American Home Shield because I didn't appreciate his demeanor. I had been waiting for this part for over a month. American Home Shield had EJ's contact me. They said that according to their records, EJ's had the part. I told them I had just called AJ's and they said they didn't. American Home Shield said that they would call them and then called me back and said EJ's didn't have the part.
I called EJ's once again and they said they didn't have the part. By then, I had called two other companies asking how much they would charge me and how fast they could get it done. The other two companies said they could have it done within one or two days, depending on when I could get my appointment. I called American Home Shield back and told them I would like to find my own company instead of me constantly waiting. They said that since they had already ordered the part, they couldn't do that but what they could do was give me a portion of the money to have the part put on and I would have to fund myself any remaining balance. I said okay and how much it would be. They said they didn't know and someone would let me know in the email.
On the email, I believe it was $190. But it was 10 times that for the part and to have it put on. I said I didn't want that because then that would make me a brand-new fool to have a warranty with them but still pay for this part by myself and only get a $190 from them. I declined that and I called American Home Shield. Finally, American Home Shield called EJ's and they said EJ's had the part and they had verified it and someone would call me. Someone actually did call me and scheduled to put the part on a few days later. The tech made the appointment and he came by and put it on.
I appreciate my furnace being fixed but the wait that it took for that made me say that I would not use American Home Shield again -- the amount of time it took and the money I spent on hotels could have paid for that part. I would rather pay for the part myself instead of waiting that long. My experience I had with my washer was completely different, though. American Home Shield responded quickly and the tech came out and assessed it. He told me what was wrong with it and he said that the part would be in the same timeframe, within 10 to 14 days. It took longer than the 10 to 14 days but it didn't take as long as the heater part and they were able to give me updates. When the part came in, the tech came out and he fixed my washing machine within 40 minutes. That was a relatively good experience to me. But I didn't realize that there would be a 14 to 21-day wait time to have the item repaired when I initially signed up. That was something that I learned after signing up for it.
But the representatives at American Home Shield are excellent. They do everything they can to help the customer and I know all customers appreciate that because they don't just give you a check-the-blank answer. They actually do their due diligence to try to help you. But the companies that American Home Shield contracts with may need to be vetted periodically to see if they're still gonna use those particular companies.

I called to escalate the call and when they called me back on day 5 they told me that they are still looking for someone to come out. They said someone should call me in another 48 hours. That means day 7 and that is no guarantee that anyone will be assigned, just means that someone will call me to tell me if they found a plumber or tell me they are still looking. Once they find someone, then I have to wait for the contractor to make an appointment to come out. I am not happy.

I put a call in to American Home Shield because I had an issue in my bathroom with a faucet. They dispatched out B&L Plumbing. When I had them on the phone, I said, "Hey, since I put in this request, I now have a drain that is leaking under my sink in the kitchen." They told me that I had to call American Home Shield and put in another request. So I did. I paid the $125 twice. American Home Shield dispatched out a different company. So I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. The rep told me that they could combine it where the same company comes and fixes both of the repairs and I would only have one $125 service fee. She told me I hadn't been charged for it. But I told her that it already came out of my account. Then they said that it would be dropped off and I wouldn't be charged for it. So they came out and fixed both of the leaks, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen.
The tech did a good job. He explained to me what he was doing and why he was doing it. With the issue under the sink, he said he didn't actually have to do anything. He just had to screw something on tighter. He did the repair in the bathroom. He was nice. But I have been calling American Home Shield ever since then trying to get that refund and have not been able to get it. Dealing with the customer service is rough. They don't always follow through with what they say they're gonna do. But they are very quick to respond and communicate well. first okayed to replace my chiller. But the plumber said he couldn't work on it. So, they sent somebody else. And every time, somebody would give a different diagnosis. When I read the reviews on some of these plumbers, they were terrible. I told AHS, "I'm not happy with these plumbers and their reviews are really bad."
The last plumber that came out said, "It's a portable chiller and they will not replace it," after AHS said they would replace it. It's a home unit. It's not a commercial-type of chiller. So, I don't know what they were expecting. But in my plan it said they are covered. So, I was disappointed with that. They sent out four different plumbers and they were all incapable and non-responsive. Also, AHS doesn't respond. They never call back. I tried several times with them. I reached out to them again and said, "This isn't fair 'cause you already okayed the replacement, and now, you're reneging on that and taking that back and not replacing it."
All I could do is speak to AHS' customer service rep people. I couldn't speak to anybody higher up. They just said that they go by whatever the plumber says. So, one plumber said one thing, another plumber said another, and that's what it was. And one of the plumbers that came out moved my unit and it leaked and damaged my floor, but they're not responsible for that either. I was not happy with AHS after all these years that I've been with them.

I had a response within 24 hours and at first, the contractor wasn't sure when they could get a contractor out to my house. But their attendant on the phone told me how to shut off my water so it would stop leaking under my sink. Then somebody was out in 24 hours and the service was perfect. I really thought I was going to need a new faucet but he took it apart and just tightened up the valve thing on it. He also checked the threads, then he put it all back together. In less than 30 minutes, I had no more flooding under my sink.
The 24 hours turnaround time to have a tech out was manageable. But the fact that they helped me just stop the leaking was perfect. Obviously, when you open up your kitchen cupboard and everything is covered in water, you want somebody there right away. But my experience was seamless and smooth, and it worked. Also, the warranty costs $40 a month and it's $100 per service call. But if I would have had to call a plumber, I would have been above that.

I heard that AHS was very inclusive to different problems that might occur in the home and it was less expensive to invest in a kind of insurance, which is what American Home Shield is, to pay for problems in the future than having to pay for a problem when it took place, which normally would end up costing more than the payments we made to American Home Shield. Recently, the kitchen sink backed up. I called American Home Shield as I normally have done in the past and they assigned a work order for the company to come out and do the work. The claims process was fairly easy. The techs gave me a choice of what time and day they would be available. Then they came on at that time of day and snaked the sink. They had a device they put in the terrain and it cleared the area that was congested in the pipes. The drain has been clear since they came.

At first, American Home Shield's service was garbage. The dropped the ball on my claim for the AC unit. It went out on me beginning of the summer and they were going to tell me it was a pre-existing affair. But that was a lie. So, I was very disappointed and I had to come out of my pocket with $2,500 to get my AC repaired. I've been paying them all this time and they would not pay for it.
But the service got a little better and they came through with the last claim I had for my heater. The reps I talked to were concerned and didn't blow me off. They really took the time out. The contractor was very helpful, too. At first, the heater worked but it was cutting on and off, doing the same thing. He came out with the second time, got a solution, and fixed it. When he did, he wasn't frustrated. He was very nice and he broke it down to me in detail what he was repairing and what he was replacing. It was something about a flow system that was closed and that was why the heat wouldn't circulate. I got two thermostats and one was taking control of the other one. So, he let me know the flow system was closed on one side. Since the repair, the heater's performance has been pretty good.
