My air conditioner quit working on a weekend. I called American Home Shield to have it serviced. They told me someone would get back to me on Monday, which I didn't like as it implies a delay. When they did not respond to me on Monday, I had to call them back. They were very helpful, but I didn't think I should have to call back. The contractor who repaired the unit did a good job. He was very helpful and got it fixed very quickly. My experience with American Home Shield was very good.

We filed a claim for our oven. We've been out of the country and our daughter stayed at home and the oven was not working. She didn't know she can call in. When we came back we called American Home Shield. The repairman came, looked at it and ordered the part. We were satisfied with the service that was provided. It was prompt. Their repairman was very knowledgeable in what he came in to do and even repaired the door because it was not completely closing. He went over and beyond our expectations. We've been satisfied with the experiences we had with American Home Shield.

Inside unit was freezed up. There was a leak inside the unit and it started dripping on the floor. It wasn’t giving us any problems a whole lot prior that so at first we thought maybe this is an isolated incident. But as it started getting worse and worse, it’s gonna mess our floor, so we had to get someone to come and look at it.

I didn't have any problem submitting the claim. I filed them the claim, told them what was the situation, and when the heating and cooling air technician arrived he knew exactly what I needed. I had that contractor in the past when they did the outside unit years ago and they were very good. They came out and explained the situation. They let me know what actions or steps need to be taken to fix the situation and they would take care of it with American Home Shield. They have great customer service and never again had they have to come back for a same incident or a recurring incident. They do exactly what they promised to do and I'm happy with that.

I have no problem with AHS either and would definitely refer them to friends. Because when I get claims submitted, I don't have a bunch of backlash. I know exactly what's gonna be covered, what's not covered, and what they're gonna do. They keep me posted on a part when it comes in, when the technician should be out to handle the situation. Because the technician gets back with them and the technician gets back to me as well to let me know when they were coming out after getting the part from American Home Shield.

The last claim I had with American Home Shield was for my air conditioner. The drainage tube was clogged and it flooded the house and the hallway. The contractor they sent out was great and my AC has worked perfectly since then. So far our experience with their service has been great. The only issue I had with is that I had no way to get emergency service. My house had water everywhere and there was no way to let anybody know through Home Shield to say, "Hey, this is kind of not just a standard repair." Once I went through AHS, I had to call them directly and, it was billed the next day before they came out.

I have a rental property in Roseville where the washing machine broke. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. The contractor I dealt with was very professional. The contractor had to order a part so it took a little bit longer than usual to get it repaired. They always take care of whatever problem I have all the time. They're efficient. I have always recommended them and four people have signed up with them because of that. American Home Shield has always come through for me.

It was pretty hot and we weren’t experiencing the coolness out of the unit so we called the Home Shield folks. A local vendor came over and within probably a week, we were back in business. The contractor was a pretty knowledgeable young man. He answered whatever questions I had and went about his business in an expeditious way to get to the bottom of it and ordered the parts. He contacted American Home Shield to confirm with them what he needed. He had to put more Freon in.

Ever since the repair, the air-conditioner is working fine. It was more than I had hoped for. I thought there’d be a problem, but it was too good to be true. I was pleased with everything that took place. And I received a couple of calls from American Home Shield just to confirm different things. I was pleasantly surprised.

After that weekend, someone contacted us right away and they came out. Luckily, it was a very small fix. Everything went well from the time I filed to the time American Home Shield followed up. When the repair person came out, my husband met him. He was very knowledgeable and professional. It was a very good experience for us. It was a situation that turned out well for us and I was glad that I had someone there that I could call and get it taken care of.

I have American Home Shield for my four houses. My recent claim was for the air conditioning unit in my personal house. Joe Cool was the name of the company that serviced it and the guy was excellent. But I actually replaced the whole air conditioning system because I've had it forever. They weren't going to pay for it and it's an old system. I just replaced it before it breaks down for good. Years ago, American Home Shield has this program where they give a little money towards a whole new system or refrigerator or whatever you had covered. It's like an upgrade system so they don't have to be out there fixing it every six to eight months. They don't do it anymore but I think they should because more people would probably replace things then. But I would definitely and absolutely recommend it to a friend. They have been very good for years.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine. It wasn't wringing the clothes out. I called and they scheduled me to have somebody come out. They came out within about 3 days. The service guy looked at it and said he could repair it but if the drum was the problem, there could be more wrong with it and he would just have to come back out. They have what they called the buyout and since it was a 15-year-old washing machine, he said that it would be better that I have it replaced. He said they'll pay me so much toward a new one so that's what I did. They said I would need to purchase one and provide them with the sales receipt and they would send me the amount of money that they allow for the replacement of the washing machine. I renewed my contract with AHS because of the new additions under their policy. They've added a lot of things that they cover so they made the plan much better. I was contemplating on switching before but now I'm going to stay because of the change. Having their service is worth the money. I recommended AHS to a friend.

My dishwasher wasn't working properly. The contractor came and did something. It worked right one time then it quit working. During the second time, they changed something and it didn't work properly so they came out for the third time and replaced something else. It worked a lot better but it did not fix what was wrong. It still does not clean the dishes. What I use is the liquid in a little plastic baggie. It does not melt that. So the water’s not getting hot. The dishwasher goes through about eleven gallons of water minimum and it shows on the controls that the hot water element should be heating it up, but it’s not doing its job as it should.

The repairmen who came out were all fantastic, except for one named Mohammad. He did his job but he wasn’t as good as all the other guys. My dishwasher protruded about two inches at the bottom and he was gonna leave it like that, and he did. And when he left, I shut the door and noticed the bottom of the dishwasher was swinging two inches and I didn’t know what was wrong. I thought it was gonna fall out of the cavity where it’s installed at. I called him back and he came back and put a screw in the very bottom but it still protruded an inch. He could have pushed it in and made it a lot more in line. If it protrudes, it looks junky looking...

This is the first bad experience I’ve had with AHS. But in general it is a very good company and it does a really good job. The contractors are first class and I am happy with everything. I still have a broken dishwasher but overall it is a good deal. I thought seriously about even renewing with them. However if it was my business, I would have looked at the age of the dishwasher and if one repair has not fixed it, I would just replace the thing. They could have said, "Look, Mr. Davis, yours is 15 years old. We've put $250 in it so far and it still don’t work. Why don’t we just write you a check for whatever replacement would be and let’s just call it a done deal." They spent about $1,000 trying to fix this thing and it still don’t work. Now what that has done was it took my Saturdays waiting on a repairman four times. It took away my day off. It was a big waste of time and I don’t have time like that to waste.

I had an issue with my air conditioner a little bit back making all kinds of loud noises. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield wasn’t that hard. I just did it over the phone. When I had a few questions, I called them. I was able to reach the operators okay. They tried to help as much as they could, but the contractors themselves were the ones that were giving me trouble. The first two contractors they set me up with were garbage, but the third one was great. They tried really well, but those contractors they did set me up with, they should probably downgrade them on their list. And the one that finally worked on my air conditioner, they should raise him on their list. They should screen their contractors a little better. After the 3rd contractor repaired the air-conditioner, it’s been perfect. My experience with American Home Shield was great. As long as they listen to customer feedback on the contractors and try to take that into account whenever they set people up with contractors and future customers, they've done a great job.

I've had great experiences with American Home Shield. They've been there whenever I needed them. The latest claim I filed with them was for a refrigerator that I had and it just wasn't maintaining temperature in the freezer section. I'd just gone to get some stuff out of it and noticed some stuff were thawed out. I immediately went online and made a request for service. Sears was designated as the repair service so they contacted me and came out. The contractor was absolutely wonderful. He was very proficient and knowledgeable about the situation. He explained it to me in terms that I can understand and he showed me what went wrong and what needed to be replaced and he was able to pull up on his computer the parts that needed to be ordered. He ordered those parts at that time and gave me an estimated delivery date. They called on the day of the delivery and came out the very next day and installed everything and the refrigerator has been running fine.

I've used American Home Shield for several years now and whether I call or go online, I've always had excellent service except for the one time that I spoke with a female agent who showed a lack of concern. After she hung up on me, I called back and got another agent and received the excellent service that I typically receive from them. I'd recommend it to everybody. As a matter of fact, several family members have purchased it based on my recommendation.

It took at least 4 different service repair providers and several months to finally get these two appliances to work correctly. Unbelievable and terrible experience. On top of all this, AHS is still trying to get me to pay for a service fee which I have already paid. Poor record keeping. Now I'm having the same problem getting my Dishwasher repaired. We submitted our initial claim that our Jenn-air range was not working 5 weeks ago. The first tech came out a week later, said we needed a new control board and panel. He came back the next week and replaced it but it did not fix the problem. He stated he could not fix it and we needed to have a Jenn-air certified tech diagnose and repair the range. He communicated this to AHS. A few days later my husband followed up with AHS and was told they were locating a Jenn-air certified tech to repair our range.

A week later the second tech came out. He could not diagnose the problem and was unwilling to work on the range stating he was concerned about the first tech's work and was unwilling "to work behind him." We spoke to an AHS supervisor who stated that a request would be made for the first tech to come back out and if he was unable to repair it that it would be escalated and likely be replaced. We were also told that another dept may contact us because of the second tech stating the first tech complicated the problem rendering it unrepairable. The first tech came back out a week later, not to repair our range, but to get pictures and info to demonstrate he did not further damage the range.

At this point this is my 4th day of missed work to address this issue as the techs do not give a time but half of day window you must be available. A case manager contacts me to tell me our only option is to contact a Jenn-air certified tech, pay out of pocket and be reimbursed. She stated they do not have Jenn-air certified techs despite our being told that the second tech was Jenn-air certified. I express concern about the length of time of repair and being without a range, multiple miscommunications, time missed out of work, and the financial burden of paying out of pocket when I am paying for a warranty so, "when breakdowns happen to a covered item, you don't have to fret about unexpected costs and repair hassles." I explained that my husband would contact her to discuss our concerns and next steps. Since that call, one week ago, we have left multiple messages for her and two different supervisors with no response back. Very dissatisfied and looking into what steps we need to take next to address our concerns with the company and their service.

I called American Home Shield because I had to have a new faucet put into my guest bathroom and they did do that but then all of my faucets except for one were dripping. Someone came out on Wednesday and replaced one in the guest bathroom and one in the kitchen. He put a washer in it but it's still leaking. I have called to schedule and they'll come back out this coming Tuesday. The contractor was great. I told him to look at it because it was still gushing water out and there's another sound that comes out of my sink when the water runs out, and it tosses up in the bottom of the sink. The only thing I don't like about American Home Shield is the fact that sometimes my finances get to be a burden. I'm by myself and it used to be $55. It went up $75 plus it went up in monthly fee and I might be to the point where I can't afford it. But I like them because they cover a lot of stuff that I need.

The valve on our bath tub, on the shower faucet was leaking. American Home Shield was sent a guy out. They called in within a couple of hours after I did the claim, scheduled an appointment, came out, and put a repair kit on the valve. I submitted my claim online. I'm a realtor but I usually have my client call me. They had me put in a form but online is just very good. I have better experience with doing the claims online than I do calling. The contractor they sent was very professional and diagnosed the problem within 15 minutes. They ordered the parts, came back a couple of days later, and did the repair. I recommend AHS to all my clients. When I buy a house, I always use it and have had great experience with them. AHS is very efficient.

He always takes his shoes off outside of my front door, which was very appreciated. He works quickly and got the problem fixed for us. Now I can sit without sweating. I had a problem this month, called the gentleman and asked him if I could delay this November's payment until next month. He said yes and now I'm afraid that they'll automatically debit and my checks will start bouncing. We had a claim for our air conditioner. It was making a terribly loud noise and I got scared so I called. The contractor was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I had no problem at all when talking to their rep on the phone, too. He didn't have the part at first but came back the following week or a few days later and got it fixed with no problems, and I lived happily ever after. I have been with American Home Shield for over 5 years. Minor repairs on appliances were never a big deal. They have a service fee and can usually get someone out in a few days. Bigger issues were not so easily resolvable. I have a range that that I called about. 2 of the igniters are not working. The range has an oven built in as well. The hinges on the oven door were worn out so the door would not close. Called AHS. Tech came out following week and said 2 igniters need to be replaced and the hinges on the oven need to be replaced. They said it would take time to locate the hinges. AHS called back 2 weeks later. They said that it would take 6 weeks for the hinges to come in. They said that they can order the hinges or give us $218 towards a new range. We had a nice range, and I did not have money to pay the remainder that it would cost to buy a new one. $218 was not going to cover it so I asked that it be fixed.

The tech came out next week and started to remove the oven door and said that they are sending the hinges in so that new ones can be made. I said hold up. What does that mean? AHS told me it would take 6 weeks for the hinges to arrive. They didn't say anything about having new ones made. The tech said those are his instructions. He was going to remove the oven door for 6 week. I would not have a working oven or an oven door for that matter for 6 weeks. So I cannot use it. I said this is ridiculous. Called AHS back and they said that is the way it is. Will be switching companies.

Repairmen showed up on time and were extremely courteous. They put on protective boots so they would not track any dirt or any issues into the house and onto the carpet. They diagnosed what the issue was and then called the vendor who makes the water heater since there was a part on the hot water heater that needed to be replaced in order for it to work properly. I have no trouble with American Home Shield. Our experience has been very good. I'm a real estate agent and I sell them everyday. It's terrific. We had a local girl here yesterday at the office and got our latest updates so we're fine with it. The latest claim that we filed was the air conditioner that went out so I made a call. There were several ones that have come to the house before that we do not like so we had to wait for the one guy that we wanted. AHS offered to give us a night out at a hotel. We didn't take it because we were getting home each night late and figured that we can just tough it for one more night. They came out, fixed the problem and we had no problem since. The contractor was perfect and clean. He gets right on to it, tells us what's happening and fixes it, and out he goes. I'd renew with them again. It's something that we believe in and my children have it on their homes too. Customers and clients of ours have it also so it's something I would highly recommend.

Amy ** with AHS is the first person to listen and understand. Thank you for identifying the issue and replacing this unit.

    Original Review: Nov. 6, 2014

AHS installed a unit designed for a rooftop application. The unit installed was missing parts, no protection of coils (no guards at all). The unit was faded and documentation attached to unit was faded and had water damage. It was obvious unit was old or refurb or something. Screws missing on top of unit installed. I took pictures and pointed out the unit was designed to be installed on a rooftop not ground level residential. Unit broke within days, had to have parts installed to fix. I desire unit to be removed as is inappropriate install and appears as used or old unit. Have over 150 calls to AHS still no resolution in 6 months.

I have been an AHS customer for over ten years with a history of good experiences. However, all that changed this past summer. During the hottest part of the Florida August, my central air stopped working. I called AHS to request service and told them I have a geothermal AC unit to make sure the tech that came out was familiar with this type of equipment. They agreed. When the local company called me to schedule the service call, I again mentioned the type of system. They assured me all their techs were qualified. When the tech arrived and saw the unit he said he was not very familiar with geothermal units. He opened a panel and after using a volt or amp meter, started undoing and reconnecting wires. He then replaced a transformer. Nothing worked. He then went to the thermostat and again pulled wires, then replaced them. Still nothing. He then said this beyond what he could do and left.

I called AHS and related what happened. Again mentioned the type of unit and again was told they would pass it along. When the service company called for the appt. I also mentioned the unit. When the tech arrived, I explained what the previous guy had done. The 2nd guy also used a voltage meter, checked the breaker box and determined the circuit breaker was bad. It now became an electrical problem so the HVAC company bowed out until an electrician would come out.

Called AHS requesting this be expedited as the heat and especially the humidity were starting to affect my home. Almost 5 days passed before the electrician came out and replaced the breaker. In my next call to AHS I was finally able to speak to a supervisor (customer reps apparently are instructed NOT to transfer calls to Sups). ** was very sympathetic and promised to remove my fee and expedite the service call. By now, there was mold appearing on my walls.
Again, back to the HVAC company. Their 3rd guy came out and said he had only seen a geothermal unit once before. By the way, these units, although not overly common, are used in this part of Florida. So this tech also opens the panel and after calling someone for directions also disconnects and reconnects

wires. After a couple of hours with no progress he said there was nothing more he could do.

By the time I called AHS I was livid. It was now 15 days since my 1st call. Mold was spreading, furniture being ruined and the daily temperature in the high 90s. I had the misfortune of speaking with Ebony, a particularly unhelpful rep. I asked that another HVAC company and she refused. When the service guy called to make the appt. my 1st question was regarding his knowledge of this type of of AC. Right after he told he had never seen one I told him not to bother coming. In my next call to AHS Ebony again answered, again would not transfer me to a supervisor. Instead, she put me on a 3 way call with the service company. A manager told me he would send his very best man out.

The 4th HVAC guy came out, did some trouble-shooting, replaced the thermostat, and the AC was on. In his report he wrote, "Found system not wired right. After I rewired found bad thermostat. System is now cooling and heating upon departure". Conclusion: From the start, the problem was nothing more than a bad breaker. Each time a different tech came out and messed with the wires, they made the problem worse.

I had to call a cleaning service for my walls and furniture (one antique piece had the veneer detach from the humidity). Had to throw out pillows, food, clothes, and other items. Repeated calls and messages for supervisors (and even an e-mail to the CEO) have gone unanswered. To add insult to injury, they're still billing me for a service call. Needless to say, I am shopping around for a new home warranty company. Something changed - not for the better - with the AHS I first contracted over 10 years ago.

The girl at American Home Shield was excellent. When I called to file the claim to get someone over to look at the our refrigerator, she said “Let's get Sears on the line" because it was a Sears appliance. The girl at Sears said, "We can't have anybody out to look at it." It's going to be 10 days before they could have somebody out south. Because we were doing a three-way conversation, she told the girl at Sears "Thank you very much" and told me "We'll just get somebody else out." It was 8 o'clock at night and she called another appliance repair in Corpus where I live. She stayed on the line and made sure that we had somebody coming out to our refrigerator and to actually set the appointment for me. I thought that was really nice of her.

Anyway our refrigerator was about 16 years old. When the repairman came out he said "nope, too old to be fixed" and then called American Home Shield. Within the next 24 hours, I got an email asking for the dimensions of the refrigerator and the list of all the things that it had. I sent that to them and they got that email back to me within 24 hours saying “Here's the list of appliances that we can replace it with or you can find something else that you like and we will give you the difference or we will give you the worth that fits your refrigerator (which was $1500)." I wanted to pick out my own so I picked out my own and got it ordered. I sent the invoice to American Home Shield and they actually have the tech to me before the refrigerator was even delivered to my house... It was a really good experience. I was thrilled with it and really impressed, 100% impressed I told everybody about it.

We have an ongoing problem. We are continuing to deal with this AC unit that gives us nothing but trouble. It was supposed to be replaced more than a year ago and it's like putting another bandage and another bandage on a severely wounded person. And everybody is happy except for us every time. Either we run out of AC and sweat to hell or they will come after a short period of time and then put another bandage and then we are good for another month or so and then we are back to square one. If you ask any AC expert, he will tell you that the outside unit is nothing but a junk.

My wife called in this case and they gave her a record number and she'd been contacted or she had to contact the repair person. He couldn't come for four or five days because of heavy load. So we had to scramble and look for a solution being in the house for a few days with no AC. When the contractor came after five days or so and fixed the problem, he told us if it will repeat before the end of 30 days, there will be no another charge of $75 but that's about it. We're not a happy camper. Basically, they are trying to put patches instead of finding the ultimate solution. They are trying to go with the cheapest way that they can go with. It doesn't help the end user.

American Home Shield contacted me the next day and gave me the option to purchase a new washer or have this one replaced. I told them OK I'll get back in touch with them after I speak to my husband and we went out in search of another. I found one at Lowes. I called with the serial number and the rep. told me that I would have to purchase it through them or purchase the item on my own and send the receipt in for a refund. I told them what in the hell is the purpose of a warranty, that's so you won't have to come out of pockets with big lump Sums of money. Then she said, "well your only other option is to get the old 1 fixed."

OK it is now November 5, 2014 and I still Don't have my washer fixed because they never ordered the parts and tried to blame it on the people who are suppose to fix it. I have been with these people since August 2006 and I've never had an appliance to be replaced. Our guest house where my daughter loves had a clogged sink, toilet, and shower. We reported the issue October 24th. They sent a tech on the 27th which is quite a delay. He came to do the work and after an hour my daughter had to leave for an appointment....she asked him to call me with his findings as my elderly mother is not mobile and unable to check his work. He went to the main house and told my mother the work was done and all drains were cleared. He collected his money and left. The warranty company called me and said he had cleared the drains but had found evidence of roots so no future work would be covered and that he had shown the homeowner the roots. I asked my mother if he had mentioned roots or shown her anything and she said no. I came home and checked the drains and they were all still clogged exactly as before. I called the warranty company back and told them and they stated they would send someone out for a second opinion and is there were no roots they would fix the issue (which was never addressed originally).

After a week we called them back again (not having any working plumbing still) and they informed us they only had one plumber so they were denying our claim and would not fix the issue. They were zero help and why did it take a week and us calling them to tell us that. I question the overall integrity of them and the plumber since no work was ever completed, so how do we believe that he found roots if he lied about the fix? POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT A MINIMUM!!!

He suggested that I put the money I spend on the warranty into an investment fund and have control over what goes into my home. When I do the math, I think he is correct. I have had American Home Shield since I purchased my phone nearly 10 years ago. We have a 16 year old Kenmore dishwasher that is original to the house and they have already serviced it at least twice. This last service call, they determined that the machine needs a new control panel. They ordered the part and when it arrived, it was black. This dishwasher is white. After working with the repair company we determined it is the last control panel for this machine ANYWHERE in the UNITED STATES.

Clearly, we don't want a black panel in the middle of an all white kitchen. They will only give us two options, take the money for the part $243.00 or the black panel. Apparently, READ THE FINE PRINT - they have this clause in our contract. So, they can choose to give us a cosmetically unacceptable part as long as the machine can be made operational. They care more about sticking us with the fine print in the contract than quality customer service. The machine is 16 years old. They no LONGER make the parts to repair a white one. It's clearly a wise decision to replace the machine, but they won't budge.

Our cost to replace the dishwasher, with something comparable is more than $600. Plus installation (because they aren't replacing it they don't have to pay anyone to install the new one) and an installation kit (hose, etc.) of an additional $170. I have no working dishwasher, an unacceptable part option (the last part anywhere) and a warranty that is not willing to budge or work with me. Would it be acceptable to replace a car door with a working door, that just happens to be a different color than the rest of the car? No, it's not.

Do yourself a favor... Invest the money you would spend with AHS and have control over what decisions are being made on your behalf. Or buy the warranty on the actual appliance from the store (like HH Gregg or Best Buy). Many of those policies have a lemon law policy and they will replace anything after the 3rd service request.

American Home Shield will gladly take your money, but they don't care about customer service, customer loyalty or making smart decisions. We weren't even able to get a supervisor to return our calls. We would be happy to split the cost of the new machine and installation (at a minimum). What they are offering is ridiculous. They will have to replace this machine when the next part goes any how because they don't make them anymore. Why not work with people who have been loyal to you. Let the next customer who needs the black part have it. Let us have the new machine.

    Disgruntled and disappointed.

We’ve been American Home Shield customers for like 6 years now. We’ve had a few off and on minor things. But our first major thing is when we had a problem with our refrigerator. In the lower part of our refrigerator, there are a few containers and those are getting very, very cold - getting to freeze level. So we reported those containers and we called up Home Shield to ask for their help with that. The first repair person that came in ordered for a motherboard but he didn’t seem to be that knowledgeable. The next time we had the person who was very knowledgeable and he installed it. And then the motherboard didn’t do the job. So, the person who came in second time ordered another part. It was some kind of hinges. He came in a fourth time to do the installation. So, he actually was the one who completed the thing, and now everything’s working fine. It took a few minutes, but we were grateful that Home Shield was helpful in getting the problem solved.

We've submitted claims with American Home Shield for our appliances. One of them was for the microwave. You can't tell how many minutes to cook or heat something. The timer wasn't working. Another one was for my oven or my cook top because all the flames weren't coming on and off the holes of the center burner and there's a problem with the led light on the oven panel. Contractor came on time and figured out what he needed for the parts and then he called American Home Shield to get the approval. He left the house and then the parts came in a week after and he made another contact and appointment and then he came in and fixed it. Since the repair, the microwave has been working well and the LED on the oven is working very well.

Their representatives are always pleasant and they work very well. The only one problem I had is at the very beginning, which is through advertising, some things aren't covered or they have a hard time covering it. But once you're a consumer and you've moved in, it goes almost flawlessly. It's a great peace of mind if you don't know what you're doing and you don't want to budget it chunks of change every year.

And that was right during the middle of the heat wave. Some of the people that do the work for them may be below that to be desired, but on most hand they’re all pretty good.

After being a loyal customer of American Home Shield for years, we called 3 days ago regarding our steam heat not working properly. We were told that someone would contact us within 24 hours. Strike one: No one called. We called the company that was assigned to repair our problem only to find out that due to our home being "too far East", they only have repair visits between the hours of 10am and 2pm. Strike two: (my husband and I both work and can't take off a full day) We called American Home Shield to notify them of the issue and request a company be assigned that can offer us a morning/evening/Saturday visit. We were willing to take a 1/2 day off of work to accommodate the time. We were told by Theresa, in Authorization, that she could do nothing for us and we needed to make ourselves available as part of our contract. Strike three: for horrendous customer service.

I asked to speak with a manager and was told that no one was available and it wouldn't matter anyway, we would be told to take the day off. I was then transferred to Shalonda, who at least attempted to listen to our concerns. Shalonda agreed with her counterpart and only offered us the option to cancel the work order. I asked Shalonda if she had listened to the on hold message which states, "a technician will be assigned to make a house call at a MUTUALLY CONVENIENT time". It was clear Shalonda had to follow the same script as Theresa. It is more cost effective to call a repairman privately and have this fixed. We will not be renewing our contract next year and if asked by friends, family, or strangers, I would tell them all to save their money. This company appears to be a scam and finds a way to have you not get the service you paid for. The company can't even get the repair person to your house to tell you your problem isn't covered!

After reading similar reviews, it appears the only way to have a person with actual customer service experience contact you is to post your personal experience online. Here's hoping! If I do get a call and this is made right, I will post again to let you all know. PS - This problem was 'fixed' not even a year ago. As of this moment, Customer Service: Negative, if it were possible. Value: Zero or negative if you add in the time spent trying to get a human on the phone. Coverage: Good luck with that.

I called the customer service at American Shield to look into someone else who can be more accommodative. The agent refused to reassign the work to someone. Beginning on 8/19 I have had technicians at my home for my microwave/oven combo 9 times. I have had to take off of work for each of these visits and have at least one more to go because my microwave currently has no door. For each of these problems, there have been at least two visits, one diagnostic and one reparative, and on at least one service request the parts were received broken, requiring a third visit: fan motor making noise, control panel not functioning properly, door switches not registering properly, door not closing properly. Keep in mind, the repair guys have been super nice, friendly, professional and helpful, and have only done what AHS has instructed them to do.

Today, 11/4, I finally called AHS myself to ask for a supervisor to intervene. Olivia in customer "service" told me "That's not going to happen." After 15 minutes on the phone with her, I handed her to the technician who recommended that the appliance not be continued to be repaired, but who admitted that the individual problem was once again repairable. Olivia said he had to repair it. I requested a supervisor again and was given to **, Authorization Supervisor. I explained that I have lost at least a thousand dollars in lost work time and that I was very unhappy with the judgement calls made thus far. He spoke to the technician and even though two of the newly necessary parts are no longer available, ** instructed the tech that he needed to "do research" to see if there was another part that could be used or if the repair could just be done without the NLA parts.

After talking to me for 7 minutes and having me beg him to stop making me take off work, ** still did made this judgement call. They've put more into this appliance in time and parts than it would have cost to just call it dead and be done with it. Never mind that if they do just say "replace it" they're only on the hook for a maximum of $3000. This is how they treat their customers. They are cheap and don't give a damn about the customer.

I called American Home Shield because water started coming up in the house and we didn't know why. The representative on the phone was very nice and he told me he would help me with it and he did. He took all my information down and then they came out and checked everything. I know the contractor. He's very nice (everybody knows everybody in this small town here) and he said, “What's going on?” I said, “The water's backing up.” He said, “Let me go and take a look.” He went around the house and checked all the lines then he took my husband out there and he said, “This is the cause of it. Always make sure that you completely turned it off." It was a water shutoff valve on the back near the house. I was afraid maybe it was a busted line or something inside the house but it wasn't. So there were actually no repairs. Anyway, they're terrific. They are very, very nice people, very courteous and very understanding. Like right now I always call them to tell them "I'm going to pay this..." and they say "okay just make sure the payment is in.”

My experience with American Home Shield is usually very good but I had one bad experience that left a sour taste in my mouth. Usually when I call in for repairs, I get someone on the phone and set it up. The people who come out, no problem. But I called one time and got their automated system. I called about a problem with 2 of my three bathrooms and I wanted them to check all 3. The automated system evidently set up the order for one bathroom. The people who came out checked one bathroom which was not the broken one. They checked the good one and all they did was put a snake through the toilet. It took $75.

I was at work and I left my daughter. The other toilets didn't get fixed. They said, "Well, the order just said one." I said, "No, that's not what I said when I set it up on the automated system." So I was real kind of ticked about that because I wouldn't have paid $75 for him to put a snake down through my bowl and the bathroom that needed to be fixed was the main one upstairs and I've never had this problem before. If I had been home I wouldn't have given them $75. But otherwise, the experience has been great. It's just that I paid $75 for that and didn't get the service that I paid for.

It was in the end of August, first part of September. I was washing my clothes in the washing machine and all of a sudden my toilet bowl kept gurgling up, that's never happened before. So I called American Home Shield to find out if I was covered with that and they said, “Yes, you are. I'll have a plumber call you”. They were on it immediately. They called this plumber. He came out. He looked at it and said, “It looks like you got a blockage there so we'll unblock it and it should work." He undid that, snaked it, he called and he then said we’re all ready to go. So I said ok. September the 2nd my son and daughter-in-law flew in from St. Lewis. She took a shower and she went to go to the bathroom and everything backed up. It wouldn't even come out. So I called again and they said it's still covered under warranty. I called them back and they came out and they snaked it again.

I haven't had any problems since then but I was disappointed when they first came out because I felt like the first time the guy came out it was like “I'm in a hurry. I got to get this fast”. But the second time he took care of it, no problems so I'm with it and I'm pleased with AHS. They took care of the problem and were right on top of it. They even called me or did an email to find out how it was. So I’d recommend them. I even told my son I have this insurance, it’s the best insurance. Everybody should have that. I don't know why anybody would not pay that amount of money every month to have something like that that's going to help you like that.

They sent someone from Sears over to look at it, and upon diagnosis, they determined it needed several repairs: a new drum and something else. Long story short, it was about $700 in parts and $90 in labor. The repairs were exceeding in value, so I opted to take advantage of their new cashing program and purchased a new machine. It was great.

I've dealt with them for several years. I've submitted several claims over those years, and I have not had an issue with them at all. Every claim I submitted, they stood by. They replaced two external air conditioning unit and an internal furnace, refrigerator, washer, so they've done a fantastic job. The recent contractor that they sent was great, professional, and friendly. He came dressed in a uniform from Sears so we knew who we were dealing with. He had all the tools and knew why he was there, was familiar with the product line as well as some of the known issues. He's well trained in his job. They do what they say they would do. No I can't ask a supervisor to call since a request was done yesterday, I would have to email that person and ask them to do it again. But dispatch is looking for a company for you." "Oh well yes, this is a recall for the company to come back out, I can try and put a call in to them and see if they will come out, it could be up to 24 hrs before they do." Excuse me it's been well over 24 hrs since I called. I'm freezing and still nobody has called or came to even look at it. This company cares nothing for their customers, each one you speak with has a different excuse. Stay away from them, you are better off calling a outside source to fix it considering they say you can do that but as others have stated on here once you do they don't cover what you have done.

There was a problem with my air-conditioning, which I first thought was plumbing, and so I called American Home Shield. The representative was great and the gentleman that did the work was actually very knowledgeable and he did a very good job. But the contracting company who was doing the booking part of it had scheduling mistake. I was led to believe that they were gonna be there the next day, but they didn’t come the next day. It actually ended up being a couple days out before he got back to me. But I never had problem with American Home Shield. They’ve always been very courteous and seemed to be understanding. Even though when I’m a little upset and I wanted to do it right now and I don’t want to be put on hold, they’ve been very good about that.

American Home Shield (AHS) sent a repairman from A U.S. Air to fix my central air conditioner in May 2013. He failed to diagnose the problem and simply replaced the Freon in the unit. At this time my AHS warranty covered Freon replacement. Over the next year or so, A U.S. Air had to come out 5 or 6 more times to add Freon and the occasional stop leak but only actually diagnosed the problem after multiple follow-up and complaint calls. Meanwhile I renewed my AHS home warranty which changed Freon coverage rules in August 2013.

AHS refuses to honor the contract that was in place when the initial call was made even though all the subsequent service requests were pursuant to the initial contract and service request. The employees and customer service reps cannot possibly be as stupid as they pretend. Therefore I can only conclude they are reading from a script from which they are not allowed to deviate. My research uncovered this to be a SOP for this company and a lawsuit is required to get them to do the right thing. Even though it is not cost effective, I'll be filing a small claims lawsuit just the same.

Hi Stacy, we understand your concerns regarding contractual changes. With the contract coverage stemming from a one year term, the warranty is normally honored based upon the current year's coverage. If a customer pays for any refrigerant within the same year an issue re-occurs, then customers are covered on the cost of refrigerant. It is unfortunate that the problem returned outside of last year's coverage. I will forward your feedback to the appropriate departments. Hopefully, we can improve our coverage to fir the needs of customers that are faced with re-occurring issues in the following year.

At the recommendation of a friend, I talked my husband into getting house insurance from American Home Shield for our appliances. This is one more mistake to add to the very many I've made over the years. They sent a kid in JUNE after I requested one in MAY to come look at the AC that was not working. That nitwit said a spider web built so much pressure up in our system that it shredded a 1/4" steel cap on the freon tube. They refused to fix it after being completely rude and charging us $75 for that piece of BS.

I had it fixed by someone else for $185 in July after AHS kept us waiting that long to finally tell us their decision. The guy who fixed it told me it was on its last legs then. Then our hot water heater went out. That was another BS fiasco. We paid and installed a new one on our own. After more careful digging, I've found out AHS has been in several class action lawsuits for hiring contractors who will give reasons for not fixing things. My AC unit was classified as a "pest control issue." Now my heat is out and winter is coming on and after the way they treated me last time, I don't have the nerve to ask them to please come look at it again. This is a heads up. DO NOT GET AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. They are thieves and liars.

I have been a contract holder with AHS for a number of years. I was referred by a neighbor and I too have referred others to AHS with no reservation. I've had to two claims, one on my thermostat in 2009 and the other on my garbage disposal in 2012. Both were handled swiftly and the work performed was to my satisfaction. I started out paying via 12 monthly payments, but decided to switch to an annual payment for the 2014 contract year. This is where my problems with AHS began.

I received a renewal notice that was generated on 11/02/2013 for contract ** in November 2013 for 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 in the annual amount of $589 to be paid in 12 monthly payments of $49.08 each. The Product Name was "HomeShield" and covered: Plumbing, Plumbing Stoppages, Water Heater, Duct work, Electrical System, Ceiling Fans, Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Built-in Microwave and Range/Oven/Cook top. I called 855.569.9586 in December 2013 to switch contract ** to 1 payment, but was told it was too soon and that I was to call back in the new year before 01/07/2014.

I again called 855.569.9586 on Friday, 01/03/2014 to switch contract ** to 1 payment. I paid $589 using my AMEX card ending in **. The payment posted to my AMEX card and to the AHS system on Monday, 01/06/2014. A few weeks later, I received a call from an AHS representative telling me that I had not paid for my 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 contract. I explained to them that I made a payment on 01/03/2014 that posted on 01/06/2014. I was put on hold while this was researched. After the representative confirmed the $589 payment, I specifically asked if I was going to have any problems with this contract. I was told NO.

I received a renewal notice that was generated on 10/04/2014 for contract ** in October 2014 for the same period of 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 in the annual amount of $639 to be paid in 1 payment of $639. The product name was "3x3 Combo" and covered: Air Conditioning including Duct work, Heating including Duct work, Electrical, Plumbing, Water Heaters, Garbage Disposals, Instant Hot/Cold Water Dispensers, Doorbells, Smoke Detectors, Ceiling Fans, Central Vacuums, Refrigerators, Clothes Washers, Clothes Dryers Ranges/Ovens/Cook tops, Dishwashers, Built-in Microwave Ovens, Trash Compactors, Garage Door Openers, Free Standing Ice Makers and Built-in Food Centers. I also received a PAST DUE NOTICE statement for contract ** dated 10/06/2014 advising me of a remaining balance due of $50 and a due date of 10/20/2014.

On Friday, 10/24/2014, I called the number on the past due notice statement 866.838.3335 three different times. I repeatedly told the representatives that my contract amount was $589 and that's why that's the amount that was paid. Each time I was told that I owed an additional $50 and that they couldn't waive the amount. I did not have the first contract in front of me at the time, nor did I realize it was for a different contract number, why would it be? No one could explain to me why I suddenly owed $50 after making a payment in full in January. I finally was able to speak with a supervisor, Melissa, who told me that on 9/29/2014 the credit of $589 was moved from miscellaneous cash account to contract ** but she didn't know what that was about. It wasn't until I asked whether I was going to have the same problem in 2015 paying an annual amount and then being told months later that the contract was not paid in full, that she promised to research how the representative that I spoke to on 01/03/2014 knew to process the payment for $589 and get back to me by end of day Tuesday, 10/28/2014.

I told my story repeatedly to AHS representatives (one of whom was a supervisor). No one thought to look closely at the $589 payment that posted on 01/06/2014 to see that it was for contract **. No one questioned why the same $589 had to be moved from miscellaneous cash or how it got there in the first place. No one questioned why contract ** was renewed (created?) in September 2014 despite me saying I made a payment in January 2014. Who makes a payment on a contract 9 months in advance of it even coming into existence?

The next day, Saturday, 10/25/2014, I was able to find the first contract that was originally issued to me in November 2013, **. When I called AHS after researching all of this, Erica, the representative, was super nice. Instead of asking me for the contract number at the onset of the call, she asked me for the property address, where she was then able to see all active and recent contracts for my property address. As I explained to her my findings, she was able to follow along. She ended up providing some very useful information: She told me that contract ** was created on 9/26, contract ** was CANCELLED on 9/29 resulting in the funds being moved to miscellaneous cash on and then the funds moved from miscellaneous cash to contract **. She also told me that a cancellation letter should have been sent to me, but there was no record of one in the AHS system. When I asked why the contract amount was different for the same period, she said it was because it was for a different product that covered more items.

I asked how my existing policy could be cancelled without any notice to me, a new policy issued with different terms for a higher dollar amount, for which I was now responsible for the $50 difference. She did not have an answer for me. Erica did however take copious notes to make sure that anyone researching contract ** would know exactly what happened. I do not understand WHY contract ** was cancelled. WHY contract ** was created with different terms. WHY my contract number was changed at all. WHY I was never notified about the cancellation, WHY the annual total increased by $50 thus creating the need to send me a past due notice

This experience with AHS has proved that the AHS call center representatives do not own problem resolution. Instead, all they cared about was the fact that contract ** showed a remaining balance of $50. None of them were willing to find out WHY it was owed. One representative even went as far to tell me that if I had proof that my contract was for $589 instead of $639, then I needed to send that in because the system said that the annual amount was $639. I, a consumer/client/customer/contract holder, had to do the research myself to find out that AHS not only changed my contract number in the middle of a contract year, they cancelled my existing contract with no notice to me and reissued a new contract with different terms, also increased the annual amount and demanded payment for the difference. Had I not had the original contract that was sent to me in November 2013, I would have not been able to substantiate my position and this debt likely would've resulting in a hit to my credit score if I refused to pay it. How many other unsuspecting consumers/clients/customers/contract holders has this happened to and they just pay up?

Seems to me, that's a nice way to increase the AHS profit margin if the demand for additional funds cannot be disputed. This practice and the subsequent treatment by AHS representatives is unconscionable, not to mention illegal---it gives a whole new meaning to the term Bait and Switch. The number of opportunities for process improvement are too numerous to mention here. Furthermore, it calls into question AHS's accounting practices--such as they may be, and auditing practices if they even exist.

Supervisor Melissa never did call me back on 10/28/2014. I had to call AHS myself only to be told It's all taken care of. Mysteriously, the product covered by contract ** was now HomeShield instead of 3x3 Combo, the annual amount was $589 instead of $639 and the $50 that was overdue was now gone. No one at AHS had the decency to even call me back to talk to me, after I called AHS repeatedly to get this resolved and was promised a return call. Their mistake became my problem. It further proves my point that the vast majority of AHS call center representatives all the way up to the supervisors-- lack professionalism and owning problem resolution. It was me who had to do my own research and point out to AHS their mistake. If I did not find that first contract with the $589 annual amount, they would've kept coming after me for $50 that I didn't owe.

Overall, I am very disappointed in a company that I held in such high regard for the service they provided. The renewal and billing practices of AHS needs to be reexamined and it wouldn't hurt to train the call center representatives to look at the entire picture when a consumer/client/customer/contract holder calls in. The soloed approach practiced by the 3 call center representatives that I spoke to on 10/24/2014 as well as the supervisor tells me that owning problem resolution is not what they're trained to do. If it falls outside of the script or their comfort zone, they just can't properly perform and instead resort to canned apologies, while still demanding payment an unjustified remaining balance. This situation should be a learning opportunity for all AHS call center staff.

I had a plumbing issue in the bathroom where there was a knocking sound coming from the wall. It’s the master bathroom and it was a very irritating issue in the beginning because I didn’t know where the knocking was coming from and they didn’t seem to pinpoint the problem. I was concerned that wall would took a while before it was put back together. I ended up having to locate someone myself because they didn’t have anybody to do it. That person came out and repaired it. He fixed or changed out the valve and the sound was gone. AHS then sent me a check to pay for the repairs. It didn’t quite cover the repair but we finally got that done after a while.

Overall it’s worth it. It’s worth having a warranty in the event you’d really have some major repairs. But it can be very, very cumbersome when you have to go through very different channels and wait for a long time before someone gets back to you to do your repair. The part that I dislike most is actually trying to reach them when you have the repair person right here and it takes a very long time. Because it is very annoying sometimes when the dispatch people come out and they have to call back. That lag time, that long time to get approval to go ahead and do it, that wait time is way too long. So, a lot of the people who they send out are frustrated because they can’t get access and then there’s a million questions when they do talk to somebody. But otherwise, it’s worth having the warranty than not to have it.

American Home Shield was on a real estate transaction and the homeowner opted to renew for several years on the property. Summer of 2014 the microwave stopped working. After sending 2 different contractors on July 28 AHS provided an option to repair or pay upgrade fee to replace brand name. They encouraged the homeowner to replace the appliance with a different brand name, although homeowner advised them that every other appliance in the kitchen was the same name brand. Homeowner opted to have repaired, even though told 3-week process.

On October 14 AHS sent an email that repair's impossible, and that they would need to restart the entire process to price out a comparable brand with the same features. Homeowner opted for same brand replacement and paying the difference. After 2 more weeks with no response, homeowner called two different numbers, being put on hold with each number 28 minutes and 17 minutes, respectively. That dispatcher agreed to work hard to generate a new credit memo same day towards us replacing as discussed previously in JULY. As of November 1, no response. It is ridiculous for AHS to even consider a homeowner would replace an appliance in a custom home with a brand that differs from the rest of the appliances in the kitchen, which immediately reduces the value of the property. I am a licensed Realtor and this bad advice is a bad business practice.

I had a bad experience over my air conditioner repair. I waited for a long time to get my issue repaired. It was very inconvenient for a customer. And then, I still ended up having to resolve it or arranged for it to be resolved myself. I was without air conditioning for about a month. The contractor that they arranged to come and fix my air conditioning was not confident at all - ineffective. He was not professional and did not take the issue like it was important.

About a week before I made the call, I was traveling. I came home in between flights and the water softener was making noises and it showed an error on the LED screen. I turned it off and bypassed it because I was in between a couple of business trips so I didn’t have any time to do anything about it. I came back, turned it on and it seemed fine for about a day. And then it started making noise again, and that’s when I called American Home Shield. It was relatively fast and pretty easy. There was a little bit of confusion though of when I had to pay the co-pay to the contractor. But other than that, it wasn’t too bad. The contractor came on time, did the job pretty quick, did not leave a mess and were just great. I’m very happy.

Tech told me the pressure regulator was electrical problem not covered by AHS. But, pressure regulator is covered. Tech told me he would fix my problem with regulator for 125 dollars but he told AHS that there was no problem with regulator. I made two appointments for tech to fix the problem for 125 dollars but never showed. I bought a pressure regulator for 22 dollars and installed it in a half hour, unscrew 5 screws retaining 5 wires and unscrew nipple the total amount of work. I BELIEVE AHS does not have good techs and techs use calls to pick up business at outrageous charges.

We discovered water covering our kitchen floor and we determined this is a hot water leak. So we turned off our hot water at our water heater and notified American Home Shield. Within a couple of days, a plumber showed up and determined that it was a slab leak in our kitchen behind the stove that he was not able to work on. So within a day or so, or a couple of days, another plumber showed up with the tools to break the floor to access the leak and he repaired it at that time. Then afterwards we had another company come out to patch the hole in the wall that was created when they were trying to access the leak. So it required breaking open our wall and the floor as well. The wall was patched up and we re-tiled our floor afterwards to repair that part of it.

During the entire process, American Home Shield was right there with it. They were responsive and professional. The plumbers weren’t quite as responsive as Home Shield was, but that wasn’t their fault.

I call the AHS and they sent a contract to my house and only check a few minutes and did not find the problem but asked me to pay $100. I called AHS again and asked them to send another technician to check it. After a week's call, they finally sent another person from other contractor. The second person found problem and told me don't turn on the furnace. Because the fume will go into my house and kill us. The second day I called AHS, they said they rejected the second company's report and will send the first contractor to house again. I waited and kept calling the first contractor, they finally came back again.

This time I pointed out the big hole in the furnace and the technician took the picture and told me will send to AHS. And promised me to call me back in two days. I waited another two days but did not hear anything neither contractor or AHS. SO I called AHS again today. They said they will email the contractor and call me back. I know they will never call me back. It has been more than two weeks, the problem still there and the temperature will drop to under 40 tonight. I am very tired to fight for this and will buy one on my own. That is a result the AHS want to see it, I guess.

We’ve had fairly good experience with American Home Shield. We filed a claim for airconditioning when we first started with them. That was our very first claim and that was years ago. The recent one was with our stove. What happened was it was a 1991 Jenn-Air and the blower or the air flow vent was not functioning properly. That wasn’t a good claim because it took months going back and forth to finally figure out that they weren’t going to be able to replace that piece that was broken, and they couldn’t find it anywhere. They even had hired somebody to come out and try to make it work, rig it in there, and we were like “No, you’re not doing that”. So we ended up getting our stove top replaced but it did take quite a while.

What they generally do in this area is contract with Sears, and Sears really hasn’t worked well with us. We’re working with a company in Brownsburg, a more local company to where we live. And it was calling American Home Shield and having the people come out. They came out, didn’t fix it, "We’re gonna look for a piece that would work". Said they ordered it, didn’t hear from them for 3 or 4 weeks, called them back, “We didn’t get permission from American Home Shield to do that”, called American Home Shield, American Home Shield called them again, and then they reordered the piece. So then they came out, it didn’t work still so the guy was gonna try to make it work and we said “No, we don’t want you to force that into the metal there”, and so they took it away and then we didn’t hear from anybody for about a month again, so I got back in contact with American Shield and finally they did concede that it wasn’t gonna be able to be fixed so they replaced the stove top.

Since the repair, the stove has been fine. We’ve had other repairs with American Home Shield and that’s describing the worst that we’ve had. And when we were working with Sears, we simply never got anything done. Most of the people that came out were unable to fix anything. So it was a bad service contract; it was because it was the same gentleman that came out here every time and he was ancient and he didn’t know what he was doing. So that’s why we changed. We have a claim in right now to fix our dryer and the guy's coming out today. Overall, though, our experience with American Home Shield was positive.

And I said, "Well, I'm not surprised." He had one in his truck and went and brought it in and installed it and cleaned up everything beautifully. He was really efficient and knowledgeable. It was a great experience.

Aside from the garbage disposal, we also had the water filter of the refrigerator go out and we needed that replaced. I submitted a claim online because my air conditioner was low on Freon. I submitted the ticket and they assigned it to somebody that scheduled me for a week or two out and they wanted to charge me about five times the amount of Freon that is five times the price. So then I called AHS and had them assign it to the person who had come out last because they were the most helpful and they did great service. Guy came out the next day and fixed it. Had no problems with him. I gave him 10s all the way, all the way down on the review. And all is good now, my air conditioner was fairly new and it’s back as it was – it’s cold.

I like AHS that is why I’ve kept them. Great service, usually prompt. Submitting a claim was very simple... but I’d like some more tracking like where the ticket is. Like I said, they tried to schedule me a week or two out. I understand that has to do with the contractor’s own time. I know that has nothing to do with American Home Shield, but I felt like there was somewhere in the process, in going to the website, that all you can do is assign or cancel. So there needs to be something in the middle, like waiting for a callback from service tech. Furthermore, I don’t know whether the problem with the original contractor was a Home Shield issue or the contractor, but AHS need to check. Have a negotiated price or something.

Our refrigerator freezer started getting hot. They sent a company out. The man came out, took the control board out of it and commenced to solder something on the back of it, which didn't seem right to me, but he said this will do the repair. And he puts it back and within three days or so, we had the very same problem. The man came back. They don't charge you the deductible the second time and he replaced the card. Under a week later, we had the very same problem.

The man was very rude, really curt while he was in my home so I told AHS I don't want that company back here. So AHS made the appointment for GE to come out... a week later. But since I had no refrigerator or freezer (it was 20 in the freezer, which just won't freeze food) at that point, I called them back and said that won't work. I can't wait eight days. I then gave them the name of another company that worked on my dishwasher, I'd like them back. They contacted this other company that was there in two hours. They came and changed everything out. However about three days later GE shows up at my door. American Home Shield forgot to cancel the appointment they had made with GE (Now AHS said since they didn't cancel it properly, they would pay for his visit.) Anyway, because the GE technician already came out and was here, I said "While you're here, I'd like to have you confirm, since you're the manufacturer, that it's repaired properly." He came in, went through everything, and said everything was fine.

So I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Their personnel work very well and were very friendly. They have quick response and they are professional. They did everything that can be done. And since then, we’ve had no problem. The temperature seems to vary more than it ever did before (I'll go in and it has a display in the refrigerator when you open it and one time it will be -5° in the freezer, and then the next time you go in, it will be 0° and after we keep it set to a 0°) but it stays cold enough that everything is fine.

I filed a claim for my dryer. It would turn on but nothing would dry. It just turned in circles and the heating element wouldn't come on in there to dry the clothes. It happened from one day to the next and the day that we noticed it, that's when I filed the claim online. The one thing that always bothered me about it is that I cannot do the file online underneath my own personal account. I have to file the claim outside of my account which doesn't make sense to me whatsoever. It just seems to me that it would be a lot more beneficial if a person logs into his account, there's information in there already that could populate a same deal and then you just go on from there, but that's not possible.

But once they start the process it goes real easy. I don't have any problems with it. I know what type of information they're going to ask and that would be another benefit too. I've had to file a couple of claims so I know what's going to be asked and I get that information in advance. But for somebody doing it the first time, there's nothing in the process when you first start filing the claim that say before you start filing this, get the following information like the serial number, model number, all that type of stuff that's needed for the actual claim itself.

But aside from that, everything went perfectly. The contractor that came was knowledgeable, very clean, efficient, took care of the problem, showed me what he did and took the bad parts with him and it was done very quick and easy. Since the repair, the dryer has been working perfect. I like having the insurance. It makes life easier and things like that do happen. I'm not faced with a huge repair bill other than the visit bill.

Over the last 4 years, I've had some major claims with AHS - no issues, no problems. They did what they said they would do. All were fixed on a very timely manner. They replaced a couple of air conditioners over the last four years. They replaced a part for a stove and a part for a refrigerator. But my recent claim with them was a garbage disposal that was jammed up. I saw the casing was leaking so I called them. They responded right away and it was the next day or the day after the guy showed up. He was in and out of my house in 45 minutes.

Great customer service and they're prompt with filing a claim and getting a representative to our house to work on whatever problem we have. Recently we had a problem with our garbage disposal. It started probably about a week or two before we filed the claim. We're looking into it because it was starting to make a noise. About a couple of days later it finally went out completely which then prompted us to go to American Home Shield and get it looked at and replaced. My wife called in and submit the claim over the phone. I wasn't on the phone myself but from what my wife told me, the representative was very friendly. She didn't have any problems with setting up the claim. She was very fast and courteous. The contractor also did a good job and we have not had any problems with our garbage disposal whatsoever since he came out and repaired it. It's been working wonderful.

10/21, we contact our home warranty, American Home Shield, to send out a plumber. They schedule one to come between 2-4 on 10-22. I schedule a 1/2 day to meet them. 10/22, plumber shows up at 6:30 and asks if he can come back the next day with leak detection equipment. 10/23, plumber shows up with no leak detection equipment. He checks the valves behind the shower. He then proceeds to break a hole in the stucco outside the house to check and see if it is wet. He calls another plumber that tells me the leak must be in the slab and they have to check with AHS to see if they will pay for the isolation test to find the leak. He tells me I can call them as well and that they would be calling that evening. I call AHS and they tell me they will have to wait for a report from the plumber and that it is not my responsibility.

10/24, I call plumber to ask if they got a hold of AHS. They said they did and were waiting for a response. I contact AHS and they said the plumber never filed a report. 10/26, I contact AHS again and they said they would leave a message with plumber. 10/27, I leave a message with plumber about when they might be getting back to us. I have an engineer come out and looks over the area and he confirms the plumbing issue but says the slab is presently okay. 10/29, I contact AHS again and they said the plumber should have never knocked a hole in my exterior wall and that they would contact Alamo Plumbing and that I would receive a call today no matter what. As of 5:51 pm no call. I called AHS again and they contact the plumber. Plumber says they have been trying to get a hold of me (false) and have been unable to. They now say they can schedule me in for 11/3 at 9:00 am for a leak detection test.

Soon after we purchased our home our hot water heater started leaking and was replaced by AHS in October of 2010 by one of their contractors - Waldorf Water & Gas. The contractor told me that due to changes in code I would have to pay $460 (should have just been $60) to get the water heater replaced and inspected with the new code. As I was new I paid the amount and never questioned in. Ripped off $400. After a year it occurred to me that an inspector had never contacted me so I called AHS who then sent another company out to reexamine the work and schedule an inspection (apparently the original company went bankrupt). As the initial job would not pass inspection the hot water heater was reinstalled and inspected. This week (October 2014) the hot water heater started leaking. AHS sent out a company who inspected the hot water heater and said that it was leaking internally and that they would not work on it because it was still covered by the Manufacturer's warranty. I called AHS numerous times speaking with several different customer service reps who all agreed that they would not cover the hot water heater because it was still under manufacturer's warranty.

They would not transfer me to a supervisor and said someone would call me back. Supervisor finally called me back and said they would not cover the hot water heater. Amazing since AHS is the company that put the hot water heater in my house. I have now paid $791 in labor to have the hot water heater replaced (the warranty only covered the hot water heater - not the labor to remove the old one and install the new one). I am writing this as I sit on hold (it has been 15 minutes) trying to cancel my AHS account. On a side note - company that put the hot water heater in today said that the work done by the previous contractor was pretty shoddy - after seeing what a great job looks like I would agree. That is my other biggest complaint about AHS - they don't have good companies working for them. While getting my Microwave fixed I asked the technician how much it would have cost me if I didn't have the warranty and he told me he charged based upon how much he felt a customer could afford - couldn't believe someone would say that to a customer. If they ever answer the phone I will be thrilled to be rid of them.

So far I'm waiting on almost month to get my dryer fixed. Made a call for service, had to wait a week until someone showed up. Then they needed to order parts and in 7 to 10 days they may be in. They showed up in a week and the tech tried to fix the machine. This didn't work and we were offed a 50% buyout on the dryer or they can try again. Now more parts are on order and maybe in a week to ten days we might have a working dryer. I have to go out and buy a new dryer because we can't continue to run to the laundromat every other day to do laundry. Getting someone on the phone is almost Byzantine, apparently there are no Supervisors around, and as long as the tech says the dryer can be fixed, they will continue sending someone out. I'm getting a bad feeling about this company and seeing that there are 20% negative comments (2 stars or less aka Dissatisfied and Angry), I'm regretting not looking into them more before plunking down my hard earned cash on this deal.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield has been the best this year. I think it was my dryer that was messing up, so they fixed that real quick. It was a Sears product, so they had someone from Sears close by to do that. Now it is working good.

On the other ones, they took their time and they didn’t really have anybody that was close by that can repair problems that we had. One of them was with our air conditioning. We submitted the claim, and I thought they were supposed to call us back within the next 24 hours, but every time we called they said they didn’t have anybody in the area. It was in the middle of summertime and we actually had to wait ten days before it got repaired when they actually found somebody. We live in a small town in Texas and there are stuff not available to us. It may have to come from a bigger town and that really takes time. But my experience with the company is overall fair.

The gentleman that came to my home was very outright and informative, and communicative also. He gave me a lot of information that I didn’t know, little issues that could cause problems, and helped me out for preventative maintenance. It got repaired but a couple of days later, something still wasn’t right; it had a leak. And when I called them back out, they discovered a whole mechanism in the little door on the bottom had to be replaced, so they ordered the part. They got it back quicker than expected, so it was repaired earlier than I anticipated. Now it’s just as well as like new. And I wasn’t inconvenienced as much as I thought I was gonna be. That was a good thing.

I have been a customer since 2008. Over the years, the service with the company has gotten decreasingly worse. Case in point this last year. Back in February, AHS sent a plumber to check a leak. He came out and stated there was no leak and left. A week later, the leak began again. AHS told me I would not be charged another service fee. I was. I was told they would reimburse me. I have never seen it. Said plumber shows up and in a matter of SECONDS locates a quarter sized hole in my pipe the first plumber failed to see. They repair said pipe. Now here it is October and the pipe is leaking AGAIN! I called AHS. They sent another plumber out. I am WITH the plumber when he calls in and he states "the pipe is cracked and I do not know what caused the defect."

AHS calls me minutes later and states, "the plumber stated it was cracked due to a frozen pipe. This is not covered by your policy." The plumber said "I never said that!" No fix. AHS then calls and tells me they will send another plumber out for FREE for a second opinion. FOUR days later, they call me and state they don't have another company working for them. Sorry, we can't fix your plumbing. FOUR days with NO kitchen sink! Money upon money spent in service calls and my pipe STILL is not fixed. NO ONE will talk to me at AHS or help!

Carbon monoxide leak in the furnace in the attic -- something cracked or something within the furnace, so the gas company came out and they had to shut off the gas in the attic. I called American Home Shield and submitted the claim. I also asked them to look at the air conditioner when they came out because it wasn't cooling down as much as it normally did. The claim went through fine. They assigned it to someone who came out and looked at the problem. They were saying that it's not covered under the policy, so that was a problem for me.

I called them and they said what they could do is they would have another company come out and get an opinion of what's going on with the property. That's what they're doing at this point. But in the meantime, the air conditioner ran out completely. It started making loud noise and it actually went out. So I'm still waiting on them to call me back regarding the second opinion. I haven't heard back from them yet. I did receive letters from the first opinion stating that the furnace and the air conditioner wasn't to the right tonnage or whatever specs and it wasn't covered. I owned the house since it was brand new, and that was what the builder put in, so in order to pass the state inspection, they had to have the right equipment in there; I would assume that an inspector wouldn’t pass something that wasn’t correct. I've been paying on the policy for 20 years and it was disappointing to hear that now when I finally need it, they said that it wasn't covered.

I have American Home Shield on both of my properties and I have had them come out for difficult reasons and it's always been satisfactory. They came out and fixed the problem or they helped me with whatever the issue was, so I've never had a problem with it. I always felt secured in paying it. I have recommended them to some family and friends. But now I'm angry that they felt that way. This experience could change my mind but all the other experiences I've had with them have been really good. This is the only bad one that I've had so far.

They show up on time, completely explain the problem/solution, and, if needing parts, they give us an estimated time to expect them back and often is sooner than later. All are pleasant and knowledgeable and even request them back if we have other problems, i.e., electrical.

We had a plumbing leak that they found when they were installing the new dishwasher. I went online, filed the service call information and then they reported back what the problem was and resolved it. Their contractor was fine. We've already used him twice. We've never had a problem with anyone that they've recommended. And when our previous dishwasher was not able to be repaired, they reimbursed us and we purchased a new one. AHS is definitely a good program to use.

I had a leak in my rental property. They sent a plumber that looked around for 5 minutes and said I needed to silicone the bathtub and left and that he doesn't do that. I hired an outside company and siliconed the tub. That was not the issue. The leak was still there. I called them to come back. They kept me waiting almost a month and sent me the same plumber that said I have to remove the kitchen cabinets and break the wall to find the leak. They won't do it and won't pay for the removal or reinstalling and fixing any damage. I basically have to destroy my kitchen for them to come look at it.

I don't trust AHS or the plumber they use. I told them I wanted to cancel my service, they said I can't. Even though their contract says I can cancel anytime. I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR OVER 8 YEARS for 2 PROPERTIES. This is how they treat a loyal customer. When I finally need their service they give me the runaround. I will never recommend AHS to anyone. I will also file a complaint with the BBB. This company uses the worst contractors and their customer service is atrocious. I waited 45 days and they did not resolve anything, and will not let me cancel my contract. The plumbing company they sent was J and C Plumbing from Bergenfield, NJ. I asked for a different plumber and they sent me the same company and the same plumber. They said that was the only plumber they have in NJ.

Submitting a claim was very easy. The representative was excellent. The contractor was timely and they got back to me right away, and came through when designated, when they said they would. I had a drain problem. They opened up the drain and it was fine. I've been satisfied with the type of service I've got. I've recommended them to several people.

The contractor made it out to my house within 2 days after I called AHS about a plumbing problem. The problem was identified quickly and repairs made in a timely manner. The contractor cleaned up after himself and took away the defective parts. I feel that I get my money's worth when the process works that well.

American Home Shield is absolutely horrible. It's almost impossible to get through to anybody. I have to do it online. I had a problem with the pool motor that they had put in, and I called them and they had to come back out because the capacitor was bad. It kept throwing the breaker. Then we got into it about the billing processes. Their customer service and billing department sucks. I don't have any problems with the contractor that they send out but the pool motor is still not functioning as far as I know.

I am very happy that we chose American Home Shield (AMS) warranty for our home. Each time we have needed a repair that was covered in the warranty we received exceptional service from both the contractor and AMS. I highly recommend the warranty and the peace of mind that comes with it!

We have had AHS for the last 16 years and every time we have had an item to go out, they were there the next day to fix it. The people on the phone were great and the techs that came to the house were very professional and did a great job. We can't imagine how we could have fixed some of the items that went out with AHS.

Experience went pretty good. I only had the one thing to get checked out. But paying a $100 deductible, with the work ahead of me done, it wasn’t worth it.
