My refrigerator quit cooling on November 9, 2014. This was called into American Home Shield. On November 11, 2014 Lott Appliance out of Sumrall came out on a service call. I'm being told the sensor board is out. They picked up the service fee on the same day. The part was not ordered until November 14, 2014. After NUMEROUS calls to American Home Shield and the contractor it is now November 21, 2014 & they have yet to repair the appliance. I'm being told there is nothing they can do other than refer this to someone else. I will be purchasing a refrigerator tonight. I would not recommend American Home Shield or Lott Appliance to anyone!! This is beyond unacceptable.
Hi Sonia, I would like to have a case manager contact you in regards to the delay in getting your refrigerator serviced. Is that okay?

Recently I submitted a claim with them when my oven wouldn't reach the desired temperature. It’s fourteen years old and they found a place that would repair the motherboard in it, so they took the motherboard out of it. Which means I have no stove whatsoever. Anyway, the contractor they sent out has worked for us before. He's a really nice guy and I really like him. The only problem was he could not find the right circuit breaker. Our circuit breaker in the house is not marked and he's an appliance man, not an electrician. The only way that he could get it to shut off was to shut the whole house off, but we couldn't go without total electricity for three weeks. So he had to call in an electrician to come out and find out how to turn the circuit breaker off. We waited almost a week before we got the electrician out here.
As of now, my stove isn't fixed yet. This Friday, it will be three weeks with no stove. But I'd still give AHS five stars without a question. I’ve had them forever and they’re wonderful. AHS reps have always been very polite and wonderful with me. When my heater blew up, they were wonderful. They had my new heater in in two days!! :) I'd absolutely recommend American Home Shield. As a matter of fact I have recommended them to my brother across the street and the neighbors next to them. They all have American Home Shield because of me.

I was getting a lot of leaks, drippy faucets, and someone suggested maybe my water pressure was up too high or it might have had a bad pressure release valve. So I called American Home Shield and someone came out and they told me it was very, very high and they changed it. But recently my water pressure has been very low so they sent somebody out again who told me it was right where it needed to be, but make it any higher, it would cause the same problem again. So that's been somewhat of an issue. Anyway everybody at AHS was pleasant. They took the information and sent someone out.
Another claim I submitted was for my a/c. My air conditioner was leaking. When the guy came out, he cleaned up the coils. He said there was a lack of backup in coils. It was nothing major and haven't had any problems with the air conditioner since then. The guy did tell me that I should get it checked each season. He gave me a lot of good advice on how to maintain it so that I wouldn't have any issues.
Overall I would recommend American Home Shield. I've been satisfied with it. In fact, I've been trying to get my mom to get it.
Thank you Shirley for sharing your experience with us! We are happy to know that you are satisfied with the overall experience of your warranty. We look forward to taking care of your future service needs!

My toilet clogged up. So, sometime back in August, I called them up and this is the first time I had used them. I signed up with them in March of this year. I called them. They sent the guy, and he’s a nice fellow. He’s my age so he’s kinda old. First thing he told me is, “What is it that I’m supposed to fix?” And I said, “You’re supposed to unclog my toilet.” And then he said, “You know, they always send me these things. I’m an electrician and an electronics repair. They always send me on plumbing calls.” His name is **. He hand me his business card. He’s actually in the phone book as electrician and repairing odd jobs type of thing, electrical jobs.
He worked on the toilet for about an hour and a half and he got it unclogged by using a roller router or whatever. He was a nice old man, and he cleaned up, and I paid him $75 and I paid an extra $5 because I felt kind of sorry for him. Because I don’t want to be like him doing the same thing actually. It sounds goofy but it’s how I felt. Anyway, that was in August. It’s our second bathroom. So we use it probably maybe 5-10 times over the next month. We went on vacation in September, we came back towards the end of October. We’d had some friends in the house who stayed with us. And so they knew that the toilet was slow in going down whenever they flush it. They had to use another toilet most of the time we were here.
So in my next call to American Home Shield about getting my bathroom spa thing fixed I also told them “I don’t think my toilets working real well either. Can we get somebody named other than Mr. **? Because he’s not a plumber. He really isn’t.” That was in October. I haven’t heard back from them. So, I’m here now. Now it’s early November. And the toilet just won’t flush. There’s nothing down there clogging it, but it’s just clogged up. When you flush it, it doesn’t flush. The water comes towards the top of the bowl, slowly recedes back down again. So I called the lady about it again last week, and she said, “Well, you’re now past your 60 days so we can’t do anything. It’s got to be a whole new service call.” I said, “I don’t think that’s right.” I did tell them about it within 60 days. That I tried to make another service request in 60 days. It was August 25th when Mr. ** came out. I remember that date from the check. I called back on October 14th, 15th, or about 16th.
The lady got very nasty so I asked to speak to a supervisor. She left the phone, she came back and said “Our system to contact the supervisor is deferred. The supervisor would have to call you back within 24 to 48 hours.” That was either on Thursday or Friday of last week. I understand it’s the weekend so I haven’t received a call back from them. So that’s my sad story about the bathroom at my address. I’m really upset with them. They did respond about the pool tub thing. They can’t find anybody for that but I think they probably tried their best to do something on that.
Hello Tom, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for your recent experience and would like to assist you regarding your plumbing issues. I will have a case manager contact you back for a resolution.

I called American Home Shield (AHS) on Oct 29th to request service on my tankless water heater. They sent a technician out on Oct 31st, who diagnosed the problem, but said he did not have experience working on a tank-less heater. AHS called a second technician who came out on Nov 2nd and gave the same diagnosis. AHS confirmed that the entire repair/replacement was covered under my contract. However, they failed to authorize the replacement water heater until Nov 10th after multiple calls from me. They never explained why it took so long to authorize.
The part arrived on or about Nov 12th, but the tech said he could not come out until Nov 17th. I asked why so long, and he said that he lives and works in Modesto, a town that's about a three hour drive away. When I asked AHS why they didn't pick someone closer they told me that they don't contract with anyone in my "area" that fixes tank-less heaters. I told them I live in silicon valley, there are hundreds or even thousands of experienced plumbers near me. The rep replied, "But not that WE contract with".
The technician finally came to perform the repair on Nov 17th. He soon realized he had the wrong part, and reported he would not be able to complete the repair. I called AHS to see what they would do next, as my family had been without hot water for 3 weeks already. The first time I called I was told that their records show that the repair is "finished". I told them that "no, it was not." The next time I called they said someone would call me back. No one did, so I called again and they said they need the tech/plumber to order a new part, but when I called to speak with the tech/plumber, he said that AHS needed to Authorize the order and that he could order anything without their authorization, which they HAD NOT given.
After calling AHS a few more times, I finally got a hold of the first truly helpful person in the "Autho" department, who said she would have the part ordered and sent to my home ASAP. Hooray, right? Not so fast. I called the owner of the plumbing company and he told me that "a lot of my guys are on vacation now" and that because we live "so far away", I would have to wait another WEEK before they could come out unless the part arrived by tomorrow on 11-21-14. I called AHS again to report this and they said they would call me back. Now I am waiting to see what will happen and wondering if my family will have to spend thanksgiving, our 4th week, without water.
Hi Lea, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for the delay in getting your water heater replaced and would like to get a case manager involved.

We came home from our vacation and our freezer had quit. So we contacted American Home Shield and it took them a while to get a repair person because I don’t think that person works for American Home Shield, he was a private contractor. He’s come and worked on my refrigerator before, but apparently they had to go through their process to get it authorized. Anyway, apparently the air compressor quit, it had water in it and so it quit. So the guy had to come and put a new air compressor in and then they had to put a new filter in, then they had to clean out the line... So, it’s quite a while.
With American Home Shield there’s a process you have to go through and sometimes it seems so stupid because the thing obviously isn’t working, but you have to go through this process. And it just takes forever sometimes. And it gets really frustrating for my tenants. The time before this, I have a rental home and the refrigerator quit working. I was in Europe when this happened. So, I requested service through the internet. They chose somebody who apparently didn’t do repairs. Finally, I just told my tenants to go rent a new refrigerator. So, they did that and for a while the old refrigerator that didn’t work and the new refrigerator were both in the kitchen until they found some people to help move the old refrigerator down to the garage because it didn’t work anymore. So it was in the garage and we had the rental upstairs. Well, American Home Shield said that they would not pay to have a technician come there and check the refrigerator in the garage to verify that it didn’t work because it wasn’t in the kitchen.
I tried to explain what has happened and I’m in Europe and they have to have a refrigerator. But they just refused and said it was just not gonna happen. "It’s in your contract.” So just I went ahead and bought a new refrigerator. And of course had to throw the old one away. I just gave up. They have some really ridiculous rules. Anyway, that’s the frustration. It usually works out okay.
Hello Mary..... Thank you for your feedback, I apologize for your past experiences that you experienced that were not so good with AHS. Yes, it is a process and I understand that the lengthy time frames can be frustrating and appreciate your patience. If there is anything else we can do for you please let us know.

I joined AHS in August of 2014 because a friend of mine had used them and really had success. That being said I think that is possible. What I will say after my first experience in using them it has been a disappointment. Just to express how anal I am, I read the "sample" contract, made notes, called them, went over everything and felt I had a very good understanding of their product and because of that and the recommendation and the positive reviews here felt it was a safe bet.
So my first experience was plumbing (leaking faucets) related. Because it was my first run I did the initial request online but their website was throwing errors so I called on Monday to firm receipt and the process. Didn't want to be any issues and wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. I asked a lot of questions but got different answers along the way. Not real comforting, but everyone was friendly. Of course the first frustration is the phone menu system and LONG wait time. That's just crazy, use technology please, online chatting could have covered most questions and issues but then there would be documented correspondence.
The contractor they sent out was on the money. No issues with them luckily. The issue that annoyed me was that the faucet needed to be replaced, OK I had been told that I could easily upgrade and pay the difference if I wanted. Now that's when I was talking to sales.... flash forward to time of need. No, that's complicated on so many levels. Basically, they push the "cash out" method to deal with anything like that. You would think that the cash out method would cover labor and materials cost for you to go and do whatever you want. That is Not the case, you end up paying a lot more and they don't cover labor costs at all. So at the end of the day you pay the trade fee for someone to come out and not do the work $100.00 in...then you can pay the person for his "regular" rate not the AHS rate and the "regular" price of the faucet not the AHS rate....so you see this adds up very quickly. And you will NOT be net ahead after it's all said and done! Also, if you cash out, they pretty much say you are on your own if there are issues. Which made me ponder if I had any future service calls for a leaky faucet, would there be an issue?
This all felt like a total misrepresentation of what was sold to me. But I'm in for the year so I'll see how any future service requests go and of course post reviews accordingly. What did I do, I sucked it up, got what they offered which isn't what I wanted and will eventually have to lay out the money to get what I want but learned a very valuable lesson!
We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with your warranty service. Thank you for sharing your service experience Darlene. Upgrades are not covered, so if choosing to upgrade, then the cost is related to the contractor's retail rate. We apologize for the confusion in coverage. Customers are supposed to receive a contract to ensure they are aware of how the coverage works. If you need a copy of your contract please let us know.

We had five different issues. Because we had so many issues, I understand from American Home Shield that if you give them you should give them all of the issues that are going on. So, if you have five plumbing problems, you need to give them all five plumbing problems. My understanding of that is because they don't want a plumber coming out and then finding five different things when you only called about one, and then he charges them back for more. So we list all five of them on the website. But when my husband went to pick a category, there was no specific category that fit exactly what he wanted done. So he wanted them to call him and they called us.
Anyway, one of issues that we had was that we kept having the smell of sewers in our front bathroom. A company came out for that and we were surprised that it was given to them. Because when I read the reviews about them, they were extremely negative. But apparently, they do all kinds of different things. My husband said they arrived on time, the guy was really nice, he looked at all the problems, and was very informative. The guy said that when the house was built, the codes have only one vent and so our bathtub, toilet, and our sink, all vent through the same single pipe. If that bathroom isn't used frequently, it dries up the water in the trap, and so it doesn't prevent the back flow of the sewer gases into our house.
It definitely wasn't covered as something that American Home Shield would fix since it was a code at the time that the house was built. But my husband thought he had really good service. So, we had a positive experience even though they weren't able to do anything about it. They are very responsive. The coverage is reasonable and we feel that the price paid for itself. Neither one of us have ever had home warranty before, and this is our first time since we bought our house. But we feel quite satisfied with their services that we actually came out for renewal, we renewed it. I would recommend American Home Shield.

During the summertime, they came out and they took care of my refrigerator as well as my stove and I was satisfied with what they did. The unfortunate thing is the stupid microwave just went out, it sizzled. It’s built into the thing so we just quit using it. And because it's been past 30 days since we had that other claim, now we would have to pay another $75, and I just can't afford it lol. We're both retired and on disability. Anyway being on a limited income, it's hard, but it's affordable to keep with the program. It's a great program to have in the end because appliances and things cost a lot of money. And if they can't repair it, they're going to replace it for you. They're awesome!

They called us immediately as soon as they got the message. Their reps have been very good whenever he calls. The whole experience has been very positive. A plumber came and repaired it. Except the first one didn’t take for some reason so I filed again. Anyway the person that came out the first time got the overview of the problem, ordered parts, and then we scheduled another appointment.
Two additional workers came out and they said that the first guy did not order the right parts. So then they had it all out and they were troubleshooting different things, etc. And then they had to order different parts so it resulted in a third visit with the correct part to fix it. Problem was corrected. My husband says that he feels it takes longer for the oven to preheat than what it used to, but I haven’t noticed it. My air conditioner broke on a Tuesday. I called the American Home Shield. They sent out A-Plus to do the work. However the contractors were not able to find the damaged part immediately when they came in Thursday. They didn't check it completely and ordered a wrong part. They came back Saturday and found out that the fan hub was the one broken, but they didn't want to buy the part from an available store, Aircode. Three days later they showed up with the part and acted like there was nothing wrong. They said we could call again if there were any problems, but we will not call them again in this lifetime.
Fortunately it wasn't super hot during the days when I didn't have any air conditioner. But it really pissed me off that my air conditioner could have been fixed on that Saturday but they didn't want to pay the cost of the part. I had to wait until their ordered had shown up. If that's the way they're treating all of the customers, then they shouldn't be a part of the American Home Shield contract. This is the only problem I've had out of the 5 repairs I've had done with American Home Shield. I've had people to order parts and the part comes in the next day and they're right there to fix it. So I have no problem with American Home Shield. I just have a problem with that contractor.

After several more visits by Bayliss I was told that the unit would not handle the cold temps we were having. I called American Home Shield within a few minutes of me noticing this noise from the air conditioning system. I requested a specific vendor that I've dealt with in the past to come out. They told me that that person was on a no-call list right now because they were too busy. So I told myself I really, really know these guys will come out for me because we've worked with them in the past. The girl I spoke to that evening had told me, “Oh yeah, we'll call them and then well make the request for you.”
When I called back the next day to make sure it had been done, it hadn’t been. It’s the first time I have ever been disappointed with American Home Shield. But the girl that I spoke to that morning was really great. She got on the phone right away with them, made the request. I had already called the vendor that morning and said “hey you're on a no-call list, please confirm” and they were ready for it. So that’s how come I actually end up calling back American Home Shield and finding out the girl the night before hadn't sent that because I have spoken with them. They called me a few hours later and they were like, “Hey we still haven't received that request.” But once it got through, they got over here right away and they checked out the whole system. At first they couldn't figure out where that noise was coming from. Later they found that there was a small leak in the system and very quickly got it all fixed up. Our air conditioning went out. It happened on a Sunday night so I called American Home Shield at 10 o’clock. The woman was nice and gave me a choice of two different companies that could come out here, Hot Boys and TSS. I didn’t know either one of them so I went with TSS. Then the next day, I called them and they said that they were down a tech so they weren’t going to be able to do it this Monday until Wednesday, maybe Thursday. That’s not acceptable in the South in August. I said, “AHS said that they had another company. Maybe I’ll go with them on Tuesday." She told me, “That’s fine... We’re down a tech so go ahead.”
They don’t want the business. So then I call AHS and they say, “No, they have 48 hours to get a tech out to you. That’s their protocol.” So even though common sense says they don’t have the staff, she calls up and then she was like, “I got an appointment for you tomorrow.” Well, the guy that they sent out (I wasn’t home, my 18-year old was) was very rude and clearly not really a tech because he didn’t know what to do. He said that he identified the part that was missing and said it had to be ordered and then went away. So that was Tuesday.
They were supposed to come on Thursday with the part but they couldn’t get the part because they don’t have a tech that’s certified to put it in, which told me that the first guy wasn’t a tech. AHS said, "We have 24 hours to find you another company. 24 hours would be 9 o’clock on Friday." 4 o’clock on Friday, I called them and said, “What happened to the 24-hour window?” Then they said, "We’ll give you Hot Boys, they’ll come out Monday 12-4. I call Hot Boys Monday morning and they said they know nothing about this thing scheduled. They have no time on Monday, it was going to be Tuesday. That guy comes out on Tuesday and say he identified the same problem and basically he needed to order that part. They made me wait until Thursday to get the part!
Another things is when I talked to AHS on the Friday and said, “Can’t this be done faster?” They said,” Oh, you mean expedite it?” I’m like, “Yeah, why don’t we expedite it?” She looks up on the computer and she’s like, “Oh, it’s 84° in Williamsburg so no,” like that was their standard rule. Under 86°, then it’snot eligible for expedite. I don’t know what her threshold was but 84° was just pleasant. Actually it was 86° on Saturday and 91° on Sunday.
It was bad without air conditioning. So I sent AHS a complaint letter. I was furious. Two pages long of the details of what happened because we didn’t get our air conditioner fixed for 11 days. It’s a series of bad things. However they did rectify it and gave me 2 vouchers for future service calls and up until then, I had no complaint. They respond. They generally cover what they say they’re going to cover. So I’m very happy with them, overall. The second tech that came did say to me, you are in the 1% of people that were mishandled. I’m going with that. I think it was just a fluke.

I love American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for the dishwasher and dryer. For the dishwasher, they had to repair the whole front dispenser because it wasn't working. And the dryer was not turning off. The contractor was very knowledgeable, very polite, and very professional. It was a very good experience. After the repair, the dishwasher and dryer are perfect. I've used American Home Shield for other things and they have been very easy to work with and very respectful of my needs. I didn't have to call them regarding an issue. They handled it very appropriately. I am very pleased.

So far everything with American Home Shield has been absolutely wonderful. I came home from work and it was hotter inside than it was outside. The people that they had me contact said it would take until Monday. Then suddenly someone left me a voic email saying they were at the house on Saturday because I had called them Friday. They left and came back because no one was home. I got their voice mail 45 minutes later, called them back and they said they can be back in that area later that day. They asked me to call them when I get home and they'd see if they were still in that area. They fixed it one day later instead of waiting the whole weekend which was a very hot weekend so I'm so happy.
The representatives on the phone are very nice and pleasant. Every contractor I've dealt with has been absolutely wonderful. The one for the air conditioning checked the thermostat, the thing outside and found the problem. He got it fixed in 10 minutes. It's the second time I had called them, sadly, inside of the month - other stuff related to small things that were irritating. Both times I've had to call and get someone to fix something, they were awesome.

They're very good. I recently had my refrigerator repaired. At the first call, American Home Shield sent someone out here. I called them to make sure they can fix a sub-zero refrigerator. They said they could. The technician came and said they could not. So, I called American Home Shield and they gave me authorization to find someone. And somebody that installed the refrigerator came and repaired it. He completed in day three and did a good job.
It's working fine since the repair. They replaced the seal. I'm not sure that there are no other problems but they corrected the problem that they were authorized to correct. I haven't received the invoice yet. I have recommended American Home Shield, however, last year my contract was $700. This year it was $1100. The only problem I have is that I didn't know why it was increased so much, but because I was pleased with what they did the previous year I decided to just go on with it.

Both times I had a broken device (A/C and garage door opener). I ended up in situation where I had to pay my deductible but did not get the service since "it's not covered by the contract". In both scenarios, I read entire contract and could not find any reference to the part AHS was claiming that is not covered, and they still refused to fix the problem. After the second I decided to cancel contract and will not go back to them anymore. Be careful, they only care about getting your recurring payments.

After speaking with 4 or 5 different reps in different departments, I had the fortune of finding a rep that looked into the history and agreed that enough had been spent fixing an old washer. The process was then efficient and fair. Our washer was a top of the line kenmore elite and we were offered a comparable washer from whirlpool.
Though I won't be throwing away the numbers of reps I spoke with from other companies just yet

Been customer for over 8 years, and our washer and dryer were the only appliances that were not brand new when we bought a new home. Our washer has been worked on repeatedly and we have been without a washer for close to a month total time. AHS will not replace it because they say it can be repaired. Washers can always be repaired due to a huge spare parts supply. They have offered us $157 as replacement cost on a top of the line Kenmore elite washer (over 700 retail) because that's what they would pay for repair. Bottom line, we have paid AHS over $4000 over the last 8 years and have cost them under $1000 in repairs AND they are completely unwilling to replace an old appliance that has repeatedly broke down in the last 18 months. Not customer oriented. Go with another company as I will be. Do some research, there are better companies with cheaper monthly rates and service fees. I have no idea how this company keeps customers. As soon as something big goes wrong they hang you out to dry...pun intended.
Hello Ryan, I understand your concerns and frustrations with the washer service work order. If it is deemed repairable by the licensed technician, then AHS will repair the unit or offer you the repair costs towards a replacement. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Our Appliance Purchasing Dept is available to assist you with your decision. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I purchased an AHS warranty with my new home. I spoke directly with the sales people of several warranty companies and chose AHS. BIG mistake - HUGE. After calling in my spa for a leak that I was assured was covered by their sales person, I was informed after a week or more that they didn't have anyone contracted for those repairs. And my only options was for them to continue to look for someone, or they could have me look and then get an estimate have them approve it and then I could pay for it and be reimbursed. Well after finally finding someone to do the work, it took them a month because locating the leak in a hot springs full insulated spa is more than a little difficult. They found it, repaired it and then repaired the heater which caused the leak. They reported to AHS, who then called me and denied the claim.
Here's why - first they fixed before informing them. Second, the only parts they cover are accessible parts (these were in insulation that needed to be removed to get to) and last the pipes leaked from freezing, which was caused by the heater going out. Now the heater would have been covered but not the repairs that were needed because the heater went out. Here's why told to by a retention agent, "It's like this, if your hot water heater goes and ruins your floor even though it was caused by the heater, it's not covered." I said "Of course not. The floor was never warrantied but the pipes were." But since speaking to the representative I have read the contract thoroughly and nowhere does it say anything about the exclusions they stated.
Basically they are trying to get out of paying on a claim. My original intention was to continually renew this coverage but if this isn't handled properly I will just have my lawyer, the BBB and my state’s Consumer Fraud Division do their jobs.
Hello Dennis, I apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced with your spa work order. The Retention Dept representative, LaPorscha, is awaiting to review your invoice. Once it is received, she will contact you. Thank you for providing us with your feedback.

The contractor was professional and courteous. American Home Shield is excellent. I got the coverage because I wanted to make sure that if anything happened I would be covered and wouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars. I live in Florida and the air condition was running but it wasn't cooling so I called them. At first when I submitted the claim, they told me that I couldn't have anyone out here for three days. If you live in Florida in the heat of summer, three days is a killer. I called back and said I can't do three days. I asked if they can send somebody at least the next day, because that's what it said when you fill out the form and purchase it. It's supposed to be next day service, especially if it's air conditioning or heating.
The second person that I talked to got them out here the next day. The second representative was wonderful. She was right there working and got it handled within a few minutes on the phone. The contractor who came out was fine. He went out there and did what he was supposed to do. He didn't dilly-dally around. He knew what was going on and had it fixed in no time. I had American Home Shield years ago when I lived in my other house, and was really pleased with it. When I sold the house I made sure that the Home Shield was still in effect for a year for those people. I love it and recommend it to people all the time. I was very pleased before and hope I really don't have to use it but I'm glad I have it.

Our basement began to flood and we realized that our sump pump had stopped and knew that we needed to get a new sump pump in right away. That's when I called American Home Shield to see if they covered the sump pump, which they did. The person I talked to was very efficient and contacted a plumber right away. The only problem was that their contact with the plumber was through an email. They emailed the plumber and the message went straight to the plumber's spam and he was not aware that the claim was made. Fortunately they sent me the email too with his name and number so I called him and he was surprised. He said, "I don't know anything about this." I said, "I got the email that they sent you." He replied, "I'll have to go back to my office and check on this."
He was a little outdone with American Home Shield but he stopped the job that he was on. He said, "If somebody had called me, I would've said I couldn't do this because I was in a project. But because your house is flooding, I'm going to stop this project and I'm going to come around and help you out." We were mopping and vacuuming for 5 hours until the plumber arrived. The plumber was fantastic. He went and got a new sump pump. I'm pleased with American Home Shield. My comment would be that whoever does the scheduling should call someone and speak to them rather than send an email that they may or may not get, which in my case the man didn't get.

The contract with American Home Shield was not my choice, but was purchased on my behalf by the seller as a condition of the sale. My realtor may have made the choice, but I do not know if that is the case. First, a copy of the contract was never sent to me, though the purchase was completed 6 weeks prior to closing, until two weeks after closing I called because the washing machine did not work. I was told the washing machine was not covered but the non-existent air conditioning, the trash compactor, and the garbage disposal were covered. When I asked to be sent a contract so that I could understand the coverage, I was told I would receive it in SIX WEEKS. (They were true to their word!)
My realtor (who is a trusted family member) told me that AHS coverage was subject to "a $75 deductible." That is false. They charge a $75 "service call fee" whether they provide any coverage, or not. A fine reading of the contract placed at the very end after pages of optional, additional expense coverage that was not applicable to my contract indicates that they can deny coverage for anything from missing parts, mismatched components, malfunction due to lack of capacity, and any of a number of other fine points. Given that AHS does not allow the contract holder to choose the service provider, it would appear that the company coaches their chosen service providers to come up with the application of an exclusionary clause.
For instance, the contract specifies that for ranges/ovens/cooktops "all components and parts" are covered, except clocks. One of four burners on my gas range would not light. I called AHS, and they sent a service technician from 40 miles away. The technician determined that the burner plate was the wrong size, and spent 10+ minutes on the phone with AHS only to tell me that nothing was covered. In spite of this, I was still required to pay the AHS "service call fee" of $75, which I was told to pay directly to the service provider, as opposed to the servicer's usual fee of $65. So, even though the company asserts that they have no responsibility or liability for the service, they assert that they have the right to dictate the service fee paid. On top of that, the servicer tried to charge me for 1/2 hour of labor, but could not explain to me what work had been done or if there was work done, why it was not covered by the AHS contract.
Further, though the contract states that the customer may cancel the policy at any time, there is a whole series of clauses regarding what the customer might be charged beyond the cost of the contract. For instance, even though they have covered no repairs, I strongly suspect, that because I have called them, they will maintain that they have "incurred service costs." This company is a rip-off. I would like to cancel my contract and apply it to a warranty with a better company, but I'm afraid it will only cost me more money.
Hi Shannon, I apologize for any confusion the contract coverage and verbiage may have caused. If you would like to discuss this further, a case manager is available to assist you.

We started having problems with our dishwasher almost a month ago. They sent out a tech who just cleaned out the inside, ordered some new wheels and said it was fine. Well, it wasn't so they called the same tech out again. He said he didn't know what was wrong but he could see that the dishes were still dirty so he said AHS would contact us. They contacted us and said another tech from another company would come out and look at it. The new tech came out, seemed much more knowledgeable but said that it couldn't be fixed so we would hear from AHS with our options.
AHS sent us a survey to find out more about our current dishwasher and then got back to us with our replacement option. They told us we could have white or black even though our current dishwasher and all of our other appliances are stainless steel. They said if we wanted stainless steel like our current dishwasher then we would have to pay the upgrade fee. We were frustrated but there didn't seem to be another option so we paid the upgrade fee. We didn't hear anything from them for a week and so my husband called and spoke with them (this was a Monday). They told us that they didn't have any way to track it but it should be there that week.
By Friday we still hadn't heard from them so he called again. They told us that we could speak with Whirlpool, who they ordered it from, to find out about it. Whirlpool told us that they had not been given the shipping address or the billing information. Gah! So he called AHS back and they said that one of their employees had called Whirlpool and straightened everything out. And Whirlpool told us that it would be here by the following Friday (that would make it almost 3 weeks since we ordered it). Again frustrating...
Finally we get a call today telling us that the soonest that they can deliver it is the Wed. before Thanksgiving. The company that is delivering it is only going to unpack it and leave it in the room we tell them too. AHS has another company that comes out to install, who won’t make an appointment until after the appliance is delivered. So I called AHS today to see if there was anything they can do. They say that there is nothing they can do but now their story is that the reason the dishwasher is late is because it was on back order and we should have been told but we weren't. The woman I spoke to was extremely rude and I was crying by the time I got off the phone with her. So now we will have a dishwasher delivered the day before Thanksgiving but not hooked up. So I will have a dishwasher that doesn't work with the new one unpacked and sitting in the living room with 40 people coming to dinner.

I have been a customer of AHS since 06/2003 and up until the last few years we haven't had any major issues. However the last three years, they have had to come out every winter to work on my heater and/or come during the summertime to work on my a/c. Last year the repairman advised me that my unit was outdated and we would continuously have this repair issue. I contacted AHS and discussed the issue with them. I was advised AHS would continue repairing the unit until it was no longer able to be repaired.
11/12/14 my unit went out again...the repairman came out on 11/13/14, told me it was fixed. Less than 20 min later my unit was running colder than before he left. I called him back and this time he advised that my unit would not be repairable. I spoke with someone from the Authorization department who advised me that instead of paying $75.00 I would have to pay over $500 in order to have my unit fixed. The representative was rude, condescending and very unprofessional. I requested to speak with his supervisor....he denied my request and stating that I could only speak with customer service. I called back and spoke with another agent and requested to speak with a supervisor again. I was told there was a 4 hour turnaround. Over 4 hours later I called back and was told there was a 24 hour turnaround for a call back.
I called back today 11/17th, spoke with another agent and again requested a supervisor...this time one called me back. Every night since Thursday has been at or right above freezing temps and I have no idea when my heater will be fixed. This has been a horrible experience and I feel as if AHS should do a better job of making sure their customer issues are resolved especially for something as important as a AC/Heating unit. I shouldn't have to call them or the repair company everyday to find out when the part needed will be received and installed.

I contacted AHS on Thursday 11/13/14 about our hot water heater. It had begun to leak and one side of it was bulging. I went through the phone prompts and set up the service call. The hot water heater cannot be used and must be replaced. I was told that all of the water heaters are purchased by AHS and it would take several days to come in. So we went the entire weekend without hot water. I waited until noon on Monday to call and see what the status is. I found out that the heater will most likely not arrive until 11/19 and that the service company will call us then to schedule the work. Anyone else can get this done in 24 hours but we are supposed to wait at least a week to have hot water and be able to shower, wash dishes and clothes in our home. I wish we had saved the money and just hired someone to do the work ourselves. It is not worth the wait time and inconvenience to deal with this.
When I asked if there was a supervisor I could speak with or a way to file a complaint, I was told that the operator could give me an address to send a letter to. Really? A letter? We should just take ice cold showers and wait for the letter to resolve the issue. AHS is just not worth it.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your situation, Jennifer. We apologize for any inconvenience and will use your feedback to improve our policies and services. A case manager is available to assist you in getting your water heater service request completed.

My experience with American Home Shield has been so far so good. We had a pool pump explode on us. It started splashing water everywhere. I called in my claim. I talked to a nice young lady and she had told me that somebody else would be calling me back. And then the same day or the next day a gentleman from the pool company called me. The people were very professional. They came out. They had to wait for the part and our pool turned green, and they came and they made it clean again before they left. So I was shocked.
Everything has gone seamlessly. On the day of the repair the repairman called me to tell me he was coming, and I told him that I couldn't be there at that time. And he said “Well I’m very busy. I don't have any other times. But the pool pump’s outside. I'll take care of it.” And I said “Well how am I gonna pay you your $225?” He says “I'll put a thing in your door” and he did, and we sent them the check and it was all good. He did an awesome job. Our grandkids were here from Pennsylvania when my pool pump burst so it was really a lifesaver.
I haven’t been a customer long. I was hoping I would never need American Home Shield. I was hoping that I would buy this and nothing would ever happen. But I'm pleasantly surprised. We had one of these once before and I cancelled it. Right before this one started, we had Sears and we had nothing but issues with them. And so I went around and around for weeks before I decided to do American Home Shield... I saw a TV ad actually and all of a sudden I thought "You know what? I better do it." I’m glad I did it now. I have to say everything I've had to deal with was positive compared to what I’ve dealt with Sears in the past. I am a very hard person to please but I am very, very positively impressed with what I’ve got. When I see their deduction out of my credit card, it doesn't even hurt me. I’m glad I have it. I've already recommended them to about five friends and they've all signed up.

I noticed water building up in the air conditioning unit and in the garage. I thought I had condensation coming from the AC. I contacted AHS reporting a problem with the AC. They in return dispatched the AC repairman to the house. He found that it was not the AC but the water heater in the next room leaking. He checked the AC for any other problems and then advised me to contact AHS and have a plumber dispatched. The plumber came and checked that it was in fact the water heater leaking and not a supply line. He ordered a water heater and came back the next day and installed it. All repairmen that have been to my house have been very professional, polite and knowledgeable.

The claim that I filed with American Home Shield was for my dishwasher and dryer. The representatives are always kind and helpful and let you know who they’re sending out. You should hear from them within 24 hours but normally you hear from them sooner than that. The contractors were professional and courteous. According to the man that came out there, the dryer needed a thermostat. And when he came out to do the dishwasher the same day, he said nothing was wrong with it but whenever I tried to turn it on, it didn’t work. But it works now. I recommended them to my mother in Colorado. Being a woman in the house by myself, and having no experience with repair, I love American Home Shield. I love American Home Shield. I’ve had them since 1989 with the house I bought and lived in. They have very well taken care of my family and my home. The recent claim that I filed was regarding my faucet that is leaking. I went online and they sent a contractor in a day or so. He was very smart young man, very experienced, very polite and very professional with what he did. I would recommend him to anybody. Since the repair I haven’t had any problem. AHS normally picks the best people. You’ve got so many people that say they can do the work, but you don’t know who you’re dealing with, what their experience and professionalism is. In the past, I had problems with contractors coming out and not doing their job. They didn’t know what they were doing and some of them acted like I was more of the problem than anything. But with American Home Shield, I haven’t had any problem that’s why we are still with them. They're very professional and very efficient.

We've absolutely loved American Home Shield. Our most recent claim was for our air conditioner that just plain quit on us. It was the heat of the summer and we thought we were going to die because it was so hot. So we called and they couldn't come right away, but they found someone to come as soon as they could and they fixed it. We visited with the contractors while they were working. They were very honest and upfront with us and told us what was wrong with the air conditioner. My husband is mechanically-inclined so he was able to see what was exactly the problem. They took the part that they needed and put it on there to make it work. Then, a fan motor was shot in the air conditioner even though it was a brand new air conditioner, maybe because of the heat here. They fixed that and he left us with a copy of the bill. Since the repair the air conditioner had been fine and have had no trouble with it.
We are really happy that they allow us to be able to pay it monthly because otherwise, we couldn't have it. That is something that we have really appreciated and we really like. We are very satisfied with them. They were very, very helpful and were able to fix anything that we needed to have fixed. The same man from Moore Air has come twice to fix our air conditioner and my husband said he is very good and does a super job. He doesn't waddle to try to take more time. He just fixes it, and he's done. My only complaint against American Home Shield is that they do not pay for the extra Freon. If your air conditioner loses Freon, you're stuck with it and that's a very expensive thing.

He say “Okay, Ma, go ahead. Get them.” AHS contractors were wonderful. The refrigerator got fixed and the garage door. But the garage door, I had to pay for everything because the guy say that it’s because it didn’t get serviced or whatever. So I had to pay for everything. That didn’t work out good. The refrigerator was fine, though -- they buy the parts and put it on, and everything was fine. Since the repair, it’s working all right, just making some noise when you have to get the ice. It would wake up anybody in the house but it’s working perfect. Our overall experience with American Home Shield is very good. I would recommend it to anybody.

We’ve had American Home Shield for a while now. It’s worth it with the $75 fee. We had an experience with our refrigerator last August and we paid the $75 plus tax. They were able to get it up and running again. That was worthwhile. Otherwise, it would have been a $300 bill. We’re pleased right now with the service. There is one thing I’d like to recommend. I was told the contract number changes each year, and if they would just send us a new book with the updated contract number on it, it would be nice. That way, the next time I call them if something happen, which is not often, I have the right number. American Home Shield is very cost-effective at this point. That’s why we keep having it.

Here is my issue: This is our 2nd season having issues with our heater. AHS refuses to replace unit, per the technicians advice that they sent to the home. History: We bought our home in April 2013. We began having issues in October 2013 when the temperatures began to drastically change. We had several service calls for the heating unit, in which they fixed the same part over and over... and over. We have read over our policy and our heater should be replaced by AHS. The tech told AHS that it was "improperly installed" and we need to downgrade to a 80% furnace from the 95% furnace.
The unit was installed prior to us owning the home. And the home warranty was in place when we bought the home and we extended upon renewal. A contractor put the unit in the home and he still states it is properly installed. The unit located in an unfinished area of our attic which has insulation all over it. And it is installed correctly. Per the tech your company sent, we have no option but to replace the unit. And we feel that based on our history with repairs, and the lack of verbiage in our contract, American Home should be responsible for the payment. We had another company come out and give us a price, which was lower than the company your office sent out.
This is the only option that will fix the problem. My husband is a disabled veteran, with a lung disorder. We cannot afford for him to get sick in the cold air. Currently my master bedroom is 48 degrees. While we have heat from our 2nd unit in the living room and main living areas, none in any of the bedrooms or bathrooms. We cannot afford to have this repair done. We have no clue where this money is going to come from this week. Not to mention we have 5 children who will continue to freeze if this is not resolved asap. The amount of the new unit with installation is $3847. It is scheduled for install on Tuesday. We are still not sure how we are going to pay for it.
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We would like to make things right. I could have a case manager contact you regarding this service request to see what other options are available..

Our garage door wouldn’t open. We called American Home Shield and they were very prompt in giving us someone to talk with, and we got with them and they came out in a reasonable amount of time and we felt the fellow who came out was very experienced. However we weren’t too fond with the lady from the garage door company. She said AHS wouldn’t warranty our garage door if we didn’t get rollers. But when we called American Home Shield, the rep we got said "No that wasn’t true. You don’t need rollers..." So then we had a three-way conversation with the garage door company. The lady on the garage door company that said we had to have rollers said that a man named Scott from AHS told her that. And this other girl, the AHS rep, didn’t know who Scott was, but told the lady at the garage door place "you go ahead and fix the door, we will warranty it." And so anyway, we got that solved and the gentleman came out. He’s very nice and knowledgeable and he did just what he was supposed to do. So as far as the work being done, we liked it. The repair was very good. We can't flaw the service. But it was a hassle back and forth, and I don’t know who to believe. And somebody probably should check in to see if they’re adding on things.
Thank you for the feedback Anita. We will check to make sure that the contractor is aware of the different warranties that we have in place.

I submit my claim to AHS over the phone or online, but I like to do it online if possible. Once in a while I'll have some problems with their website and have to call. That was more early on when they first started doing the online thing, but now it seems to be corrected and I can easily get my claims in when I need to. My most recent claim was our refrigerator, our ice maker, and we're still having some problems with it. The company that American Home Shield sent out obviously can't test an ice maker while they're here. They got to give it time to make ice. It didn't work right, so we had to call back out for a second time. The contractors were very nice people and they seem to be well versed at what they're doing but we've had to have them come back twice on at least two occasions because they didn't do it right the first time.
And now since they've been here and it is making ice finally again, on the door part of the functionality of the refrigerator, the flap that the ice drops through is freezing up. When the ice drops on there, it's not heavy enough for it to open the slot. You open the door to the freezer and you get ice fall out all over the floor, which is a pain in the butt because you know it's not the way it's supposed to work. I don't know what the solution would be to that. But I am glad we have American Home Shield. Wish the prices hadn't have gone up like they have. When we first came in we were only paying $45, now we're paying $75, so it's almost doubled. I know the cost of doing business has gone up, but at the same time, has it really doubled? AHS is not perfect but it's good and they're consistent.

What's the point of this service and payment if you cannot get a tech during an emergency? What is my need of AHM if I can get on the phone with a tech and get him right away? Sorry but I will not be renewing my services with them. Better find me another company who can handle my needs with a sense of urgency...

My last claim was for a refrigerator. I came home and all the water from my ice maker was on the floor and I opened my freezer and there was no ice. It had melted, and absolutely not cold. I opened my refrigerator door and then it wasn't cold there either so I called American Home Shield, put a claim in and then it came up LA Appliance. I said I didn't have a great experience with LA Appliance. I wanted Rick appliance. I prefer Rick because he's done some other work. He came out before on my microwave and a long, long time ago on my ice maker. I use him all the time. His service is wonderful. He always calls me, he's always on time, and I absolutely love that... Anyways the rep goes, “I’ll cancel that one for LA Appliance and I’ll put in for Rick,” and sure enough that night I got a call from Ricks Appliance.
Rick came out the next day and ordered a part. It was a compressor, something for the freezer, and he said, “oh if your freezer goes out it affects your refrigerator.” Which I had no idea. He said, “what will happen is your stuff in the refrigerator side, it’ll start getting less cold and less cold” and sure enough so I moved everything out thank God or I wouldn't have known that. That was really interesting. And he said, “I will try to get this part overnight.” I got the part the next day so it was perfect. The fridge has been perfect since the new part was installed, not one issue. Love my refrigerator. It’s like 13 years old but still hanging in there thank God, because they’re not cheap anymore.
I definitely would not be without AHS. Not a chance. They should never go out of business. I’ll be sad if they do. I’m very pleased with them. Everyone I come in contact with has been absolutely 100% wonderful. The phone reps are always polite. No complaints whatsoever. I recommend AHS to everybody who buys a home. You’re crazy if you don’t get it. Making one payment is $75, you would spend that much on any repair in your house. One part could cost you $200. My youngest is looking for a home because they’re renting right now, and I told him to have AHS when he buys his home. I've had mine for a long time since my friend recommended it when I built my home like 13 years ago. She goes “you’re crazy.” I told him, “Just do it now because if you ever have trouble and if they can’t fix it no matter what they’re gonna replace it with equal or something that’s right."
Thank you Linda for your feedback on your appliance call. We appreciate your recommendations and value your loyalty as a customer.

Our last claim with American Home Shield was for the drainage pipes underneath our house. It took 2-3 weeks to repair. The sewer was leaking, which didn’t make me happy, and I had to get on the phone with them a lot. Everyone I spoke to was good but one gal tried to back out of the whole thing by telling me “In Section D this and that, on Line I it says that we won’t cover anything that was pre-existing.” So I told her, “Stop right there. It’s a 1964 house. I’ve been paying a lot of money. I have this warranty to cover plumbing in case it’s bad sewage, septic.” We went round and round, and I finally said “I’m done talking to you right now because I’m not just gonna keep this up.” Finally it got sent over to another department and the woman over there was extremely helpful with me. She helped explain things to me and said to me “Do you want to pay it and then we’ll reimburse you from your fees, or do you want us to pay the plumber? How do you want to handle this?” She explained it to me so I knew what was going on.
What happened was it was expensive. One guy gave a bid of $4,500 because he wanted to do the drain lines and the incoming lines, but we found out that the incoming lines had already been done, there’s no galvanization. So I called AHS and said, “He’s not doing the work. Don’t send him here anymore because he's not a good plumber. He had bad reviews, not only online but with the other plumbers that were here.” They said we don’t want to give him a bad review because we go behind... and finish his work and make money? So I’m like, oh brother. Finally they did choose the plumber that I asked for and I was happy with that. He came out and finally started explaining. He was an older guy and couldn’t do the job because he was a single person. It took more than one person. Anyway, we've had AHS on two other homes and we knew this guy when he came up and did some electrical work for us. We knew that he was a good guy. So overall, we’re happy with American Home Shield. I’ve been under the house since it’s been done and we have no leaks. They may have taken a little bit of time. But they have come through, they’ve done what they’re supposed to do, and people are people like that one gal trying to argue out of it.

So it did work for about four weeks, and it started acting up again and my husband tried to adjust what he said. Still wouldn’t work, so we put in another trouble thing and they sent out a different company. The guy said it was totally something else. He fixed it and we hadn’t had any problems.
We filed the claim online and got the quickest response that we’ve ever gotten from American Home Shield. On Wednesday morning, our tenants called to report water leaking from the ceiling in the kitchen. I contacted our home warranty company American Home Shield to have it repaired. AHS sent a dispatch to the local plumbing service Rite Away Services. The plumbing contractor called to say they could get to it on Friday which was in 3 days. I told them this was an emergency as we have to shut off the water for the leak to stop. They said call AHS and get work order changed to urgent. I called AHS to get the work order changed. The plumbing contractor arrived and cut a hole in the drywall where the leak was. He went to turn on the water and broke the main shut off valve, then claimed it was broken due to extreme force. He said he would need $495 to repair it before he could diagnose the leak. The tenants did not agree to pay that so the contractor left without cleaning anything up.
We had a plumber fix the valve and again called AHS to get the leak fixed. They put in the work order for Rite Away service again. Rite away again scheduled to come out Friday between 11-3, and we again said that we needed immediate service. I called AHS again and they said they would list it as an urgent repair. Rite Away never came out either Thursday or Friday. I called AHS Friday afternoon and they now say the claim was denied and they would have a contractor call us to discuss why. AHS would not answer any of my questions and refused to let me speak to any other operators or superiors. Contractor has not called. AHS will not speak about claim or explain why it was denied. 3 days later the property is still without running water, still has a leak and now a hole in the ceiling and huge mess of drywall all over the stove. Now I am forced to call another plumber to repair the leak and also a contractor to repair the drywall too, even though I have a home warranty contract with AHS that should have covered the leak and drywall repair. American Home Shield has not upheld the home warranty contract.

I have been with AHS for more than 10 years. Several weeks ago my bank sent a new debit card. AHS is sending me emails on a daily basis reminding me to update my card info. All good right? Not really, I was on hold for over an hour and a half. So long I went onto the internet and put in a request for a quote. The rep giving quotes called within 5 minutes. Apparently, they want new business but can't take care of their current customers. I explained to the rep my predicament, she was surprised and asked me to hold. When I finally hung up I had 2 calls going. One was on hold for almost 2 hours, the other for 40 minutes. I don't believe my relationship with AHS will be continuing.
We are sorry to hear that you are having billing issues. Normally, customers can update their billing information on the website or through the automated phone system. Service calls and sales calls differ due to high call volume for winter season, however we will work to improve call times so that we can prevent customers from holding like you did. We have had an American Home Shield contract for two years. We've had many unsatisfactory experiences with the "repair technicians" who they use. We've had problems with Air conditioning repair firms who do the work unsatisfactorily, then go out of business, so there is nobody to stand behind the work. We've had five or six technicians come out to do repair work on the same problem over and over for air conditioning units, refrigerators and pool heaters. Our most recent experience, within the past week has been with a pool heater "repair technician". The man showed up, had no business card, no id, no sign on his pickup truck, no tools and spit tobacco every 30 seconds. Because he had no tools, it was impossible for him to look at the pool heater to determine what was causing a loud banging noise. He said he only had 5 or 10 minutes, kept looking at his watch and left shortly thereafter.
All he did was open the front panel by using the thumb screws on the front panel and looked at the burners for less than one minute. He did not open up the unit and look at the thermostat or the heat exchanger. He did not test the water. He did not look at the filter or any of the valves or any of the pipes to see if there was something clogging the pipes or if there was debris. He did absolutely nothing but spit tobacco and look at his watch, while he was waiting for the unit to start making the loud banging noises. He then claimed the unit had been cared for improperly and was probably corroded and not covered by warranty and left. I don't know how he could have known that since he didn't look at anything. We have our pool serviced on a weekly basis and has been done consistently for many years. They keep detailed records of Ph and other chemical levels. So, in my opinion, his claim is unfounded and uninformed as well as baseless.
American Home Shield has denied our claim to have our unit repaired or replaced due to this technician's baseless report to them. I asked to have a supervisor call me, three different times. I've emailed them. I have heard nothing from them. Further, this is the second time they have sent a "technician" to fix the same problem. Same Exact Problem Again. Different company, of course. When I asked to have a second opinion, I was told there is nobody else in my area who services pool heaters. Really? Really? This is Florida. Every third person has a pool here. If this is not taken care of by AHS, I will report this to every single agency, both Federal and State, that I can think of. I will also be contacting our attorney.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. There is already a service resolution representative assigned to assist with this pool heater issue. We apologize for the experience. Please reach out to the researcher, however they will return in the office to attempt to reach you again. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the service received on your service requests, but we would like to make things right.

Our most recent claim was for an air conditioner. It just stopped. It felt like it was cooling less and less. I owned homes for a few years and I know normally that means something's going out. So I called AHS and they sent somebody out to check it out. They said the outside unit was bad and they were gonna clean it up upstairs and add some Freon. Our air conditioner now works like a champ after they fixed it. It went out right at the end of the summer, it still will be ready for next spring I hope.
I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was very simple. I called and they got right on it. Their contractors are very good and very professional. I've been telling people about AHS because it pays off in the long run. One repair at the house would be $500 or $600. That's your annual fee.

We have had AHS for over 15 years. Last night our pilot light on our furnace would not stay lit. I put in a claim online and this morning got an email to call a company they selected to schedule an appt. The company said they had no availability until Monday which is 3 days from now. I decided to call around and found a company that could fix it today at 2pm. I called AHS back to let them know and they said they could expedite the service but it would still be 24 hours. I have small children so I need to have heat tonight. AHS refuses to accept a claim for a vendor they are not partnered with. They refuse to pay anything if I chose to select this other company. Obviously, they don't care about taking care of their longtime clients. They are all about getting their payments each month and then wanting to provide service when it is needed. With AHS you are at the mercy of their vendors. In this case, I am choosing to protect my family and kids - get heat immediately and canceling my 15 year policy with AHS.

American Home Shield finished doing work in our house a few weeks ago. It was great because I got to work with somebody I always worked with before. Initially, I had three appliances that needed repair within a week. American Home Shield sent me three different referrals which was really inefficient. I called them up and asked if I could just have one of them come out because he's somebody we worked with before. They agreed and it made my life way better. I only paid a one time fee of $78 instead of having to pay three times because it was only one person who came out to service me. It was practical, efficient and they worked with me. I've only had them for a year.

I placed a service request with AHS for two appliances - leaking dishwasher and non-lighting cooktop - both General Electric. At first I thought everything was going according to procedure. GE repair service called and scheduled a technician. The appointment was two weeks out, but that seems to be standard these days when trying to have appliances serviced. When the tech arrived, he didn't have a work order for the cooktop, but he ordered the part for the leaking dishwasher (bad intake washer, design flaw). I called AHS again to have the cooktop put on the work order for when the tech came back with the dishwasher part the following week. They claimed that they would, and even left me a message saying the service request had been updated by a GE representative and named her, and the technician would fix the cooktop on his next visit. Not wanting to waste another day off work, I called AHS two more times to confirm that the cooktop was on the work order and was assured it was.
The same technician arrived a week later with the dishwasher part, but no cooktop on the work order. At this point I must commend the GE service technician. He was competent, professional and actually seems to care, but he is not authorized to work on appliances for which he has no order. I immediately called AHS, but the telephone wait time to reach customer service was as usual over 20 minutes, and the technician had to leave for his next appointment. He explained that it really didn't matter--no work order, no work. He did however let me know that a service request had been placed for the following week. I was not ever contacted regarding scheduling this mystery appointment, and it is scheduled, of course, for a day and time that I am unavailable.
I have since tried 3 times to get in touch with a supervisor with AHS, but to no avail. Apparently AHS' customer service shies away from disgruntled customers, which should leave them with a lot of free time. The best comment I can make about this experience is that it happened a few weeks before the annual renewal of my AHS contract, and it has made my decision not to renew with AHS crystal clear.
We apologize for the delay in service on your appliance service request. I will forward this feedback to have someone from our service resolution team contact you to resolve this matter.

He said “Let’s unplug the refrigerator to let everything melt.” And when it was melted, he got the door open and gave me a call. I came back, he came back and replaced the unit and fixed it. It was done very well. Overall, we were very pleased with the service. It was prompt and fast. The problem was diagnosed and solved very quickly.

I contacted American Home Shield in August and was given a brief sales presentation consisting primarily of selecting the appliances I wanted covered under the "membership" or "agreement" and the fee for those selected was $45 per month. During the conversation the salesperson barely provided info and the gist of the conversation consisted of selected the covered items and after selecting the covered systems, I was advised that there is no obligation to continue membership with American Home Shield which I was aware of because it's stated on the company's website. At the time I thought nothing of it but I was not given any information regarding cancelling. I paid the first month fee of $45. Within two weeks I decided the cost to continue coverage was too high and when I received an email about the next month fee I decided not to pay it.
To my shock and disgust two months later I received a letter from Transworld Systems a collection agency demanding a payment of $540 - 11 months of $45 monthly fees!! I called American Home Shield and not one telephone customer service rep explained how American Home Shield can turn a non-contract over to a collection agency or how the membership works, though I was told I should've "called back and cancelled" the "membership" otherwise it is a contract to make payments each month. I never made a claim and even the welcome letter did not give instructions on "cancelling" the "membership." I contacted American Home Shield on 11/13/14 and the customer service rep could not explain the membership and put me on hold to "check" then disconnected the call!
I am filing a fraud complaint with my state Attorney General Consumer Protection Unit and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because not only is American Home Shield deliberately misrepresenting the product they sell, not giving information that is required but treat the "month to month" membership like a contract covered by the FCRA- those were the exact words of one rep I spoke to- that American Home Shield is a contract for purposes of the FCRA.
I am angry and disgusted but not surprised that so many companies in this country have become predators that prey on consumers. American Home Shield misrepresented their product to me, I was NOT TOLD anything other than the monthly cost for the ten appliances I chose to cover and was not provided information other than the bare minimum - what's covered and how much it costs per month but found out the hard way the company uses strong arm collection agency tactics in spite of providing little to no information and most of that may or may not be accurate, depending on the "sales rep" taking the call. However the end result is misrepresentations and omissions. It is a Big Problem not providing a customer enough information to make an informed decision about exactly what the consequences are doing business with them and it resulted in my credit being damaged by a collection record.
We would like to make things right Linda. I will forward this feedback to have a representative contact you regarding this matter. Please allow us the opportunity to answer any questions that you may have.

Filing claim at American Home Shield was very easy. When I had the problem, I just put a phone call in and they called a place and the place came out the next day. It was some kind of reserve tank for our water heater. They were in and out in 15 minutes so my husband had no complaint. I’m just really impressed with their service. I had my doubts especially when you’re trying to enter a contract with companies. They tell you this and they tell you that. And when something happens, there’s always this runaround, and I haven't experienced that with AHS so I’m very happy. I’d recommend them, definitely.
We are happy that everything went smooth with your request for the water heater. It was a pleasure reading about your experience.

What most people don't know about America Home Shield is that you are forced to use one their shady contractors or get very little coverage. Their contractor told us that our furnace was unsafe and he could get AHS to replace it BUT there were additional charges of $1,577 to bring it up "to code" that weren't covered by AHS. The added costs were outrageous like $175 haul away, $465 for 18' of flue vent (when the furnace is 5' from the roof line), $327 for 3' of gas line and a new shutoff, and 3 other insane charges.
AHS offered $257 to us if we chose another contractor! Said that's what they were paying their contractor because of their superior buying power! AHS initially explained that the added uncovered costs were in addition to the $3,500 they would pay the contractor for the furnace/install. Oops, which is it, $257 or $3,500? A lot of dancing and double-talk from them in subsequent conversations.
Obviously, there is an agreement that AHS pays a minimal amount to their contractor and the only way he can make a profit is to rip off the AHS policyholder for as much as they can for "extras." Actually, it's a ripoff by both of them and double-talk when you discuss it with them! AHS later in the day offered $471.81 cash-out toward a furnace with another contractor. Still ridiculous to replace a furnace for this cost. Needs negative stars and some Pinocchios! The reputable contractor we will use is charging $3,651 which includes everything up to code and permit inspection.
We understand that having a warranty can be confusing. Every warranty company has a contractual agreement with their contractors, suppliers, etc. We do value your loyalty, but we must go by the contractual coverage. Don't waste your money. You are better off just saving a few dollars weekly and self-insure. Let me tell you of my ongoing experience with American Home Shield. I submitted a request to have my KitchenAid microwave repaired Oct 1, 2014. Almost a dozen calls (on hold now) and 45 days later and AHS is still no closer to repairing my microwave. I won't even go into details about my ice maker, one catastrophe at a time. I have only received one call from the contractor and one from AHS. The short story on this is they never return or call back when they say. The travesty is that AHS portrays they will save you financially with their warranty and replace your appliance should it fail.
American Home Shield is offering to replace my $559, 2.0 cu ft, stainless steel, KitchenAid microwave with a $189, 1.6 cu ft, white, Whirlpool microwave. Obviously the two are not even close to equivalent. AHS response to this discrepancy is that their contract states, “they only need to replace an appliance based on its functions and not its size or color.” My warranty costs $500, service call $75, and difference to upgrade to stainless steel microwave $79 (one that is not equivalent). I am looking at $654 to replace my microwave, which does not fit in the cabinet space above the range. Purchasing states, “Review all specifications to ensure the appliance fits in your space provided as modifications and return fees are not part of your contract coverage,” and “It would be up to you to make modifications to the space to make it fit.”
Dwayne most customer receive several options when repairs or replacements are involved. I would be more than happy to have a case manager reach out to you concerning your request. Please reply if you would like someone to contact you.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and their response. Their fix has always been good. It has been a money-saver and time-saver for me because I work and don't have time to find somebody to fix things. I'm delighted that the service is kept up since I pay my premium. It was last year that I had a difficulty with our air conditioning which stopped working. We had to have some work done on it but it wasn't that extensive. We had to take a part and the cost of the Freon which was something I would have to pay. I was prepared for that but the most difficult thing was that the weather did not cooperate once the part arrived. We were without air conditioning due to an unseasonable rainy spell. But that was outside anyone's control. I would not say that I was unhappy with either the vendor or my American Home Shield Service based on that.
My interaction with the contractor was very limited because I have an adult son who lives with me. When the contractor came, he wasn't displeased with him. I did meet them when they came out to make the final repair because I needed to come home and pay a substantial amount to them for the Freon. They were appropriate and there were no messes. They did what they needed to do. They were pleasant, introduced themselves, stated what they were there to do and were easy to work with.

Our first experience with AHS was with the electric. Our contracted stated it would cover code violations. No small print or asterisks attached just that it would cover code violations. Unfortunately after buying our home we found out our electric box was out of code so we called AHS since it was in our contract. An electrician was sent out and immediately asked for $75 and then tells me AHS won't fix it unless there has been a defect and then left. We called AHS to tell them according to the contract it was covered yet they refused to do anything about it. I'm now going to be out $1600 to update my electric box to code. Just recently our bathroom backed up while I was out of town so I had my wife call. 9 days have gone by and we have yet to hear from any plumber or AHS until today wanting a review of service. Luckily I was able to fix the problem myself with a couple gallons of main line cleaner.
We apologize for the confusion regarding coverage Boyd. Yes, we do cover failures resulting from code violations on certain contracts. Most contractors reach out within 24 business hours, so we would be more than glad to have someone from our service resolution team to follow up.

The washing machine quit working. I went online, filed the claim through there, and that part was very easy. They sent a repairman out who looked at it, told me what was wrong with it. He said the spider had come loose in the back, which messed up the motor. But that it was a two-man job and he was only one man, and therefore he couldn’t do it. I paid the $75 fee and he left. They then sent somebody else out who essentially looked at it and told me the same thing, and said he’d file his report with American Home Shield and they’d take care of it from there.
The first contractor was friendly enough, seemed to know what he was doing. But I didn’t understand why he couldn’t submit the report, why I had to wait almost two weeks to get another guy to come back to tell me the same thing the first guy told me. Unless it was he was afraid they were gonna want to fix it and then he couldn’t do the work because of the laundry room where it was. It’s a tight fit back in there. The second fellow came out. He couldn’t believe the first guy didn’t submit the report. He then asked for the $75 payment because American Home Shield had told him that I hadn’t make the trade fee, so I showed him the receipt from the first guy showing where I had paid it, and he said “Oh okay, never mind then.”
The upshot was it had to be replaced, couldn’t be repaired. It could have been fixed but it was cheaper to replace it than it was to fix it. It wasn’t cost-effective to fix it. They sent me an email explaining that to me. I talked to the gentleman on the phone and said “Can I purchase one locally and you’ll reimburse me for it as long as I don’t exceed the amount that you gave me in the email?” He said “Sure, not a problem.” I just had to send them a receipt once it had been installed. Rep was friendly, very cordial, explained what it was they needed. So then I went to my local Lowe’s, bought a washing machine, had it installed two days later, filed the claim, and they sent me a check.
Over time, American Home Shield has been great. It’s the best investment I ever made. I have recommended them to friends, family members, anybody that’ll listen. It's extremely worthwhile. I’ve had my air conditioner repaired a couple of times, they've replaced my washing machine, they replaced a separate ice maker... For the most part American Home Shield has been very good and most of their providers, their contractors that they’ve sent out to the house, have been very competent. However I’ve had two that I wouldn’t say were really sterling. For instance, we had a slab leak and they sent somebody out to fix it. That guy was a little strange. He looked at it and said “We got a slab leak.” It’s gonna cost $3,000, whatever it was. Turned out it was a leak in the wall. It was leaking under the edge of the wall, under the carpet, that somebody else found and fixed.

I first contacted American Home Shield Around the 19th or 20th of September 2014. My oven was on self clean and just stopped working. My birthday was in 2 days, we were expecting 200+ guests so I was in a real bind! I called them to try to get the ball rolling as fast as possible because I know how slow they are and the repair companies they use are the Slowest EVER! It always takes 2 days for the companies to contact you. I think they have a 48 hour limit. The company they use always sets the appointment for almost a week to a week and a half later! They also always call you at closing time so that if you miss their call when you call back, they are closed.
The Company comes out and the service guy is CLUELESS! He's asking my son to help him get my oven out of the wall, remember? my oven was on the cleaning cycle when it stopped working and was locked shut! The service guy tells me, "I need your model number so I can order the parts plus I need another service tech to help me get the oven out"! and also "I can't open your oven door"! Then the guy leaves. I look online, google the problem and I get the door open in 5 minutes!
The service company waits another 1-2 weeks to call me and schedule another appointment and when I tell them I got the door open the lady on the phone tells me, "oh well the service tech is going to order your parts and come out with extra service techs to fix your oven." I said really? She tells me he already knows what's wrong and what parts to order. I hang up and call her right back and give her the model # and serial # so he could order the correct parts, something told me she wasn't writing anything down!
So the service techs show up on October 31st to finally fix my oven, there's 2 techs and 1 trainee. They walk into my home and I notice they don't have any parts!!! OK now I'm upset! No oven for my party and no oven for Halloween, and now we are getting close to the holidays! They come in and troubleshoot my oven and tell me they need to ORDER parts! Yes, Lie number 4 or 5 I can't keep track! The whole time I'm calling American Home Shield complaining and all they do is keep apologizing!
Now it's November 12th, I get a call from American Home Shield telling me they don't make my parts anymore and they have to be rebuilt! We purchased our oven in 2008. All of our appliances are Top of the line DCS. so now American Home Shield offers me $300.00 towards a new oven, I tell the young lady "you must be out of your mind, this oven cost me almost $2500.00 plus dollars." I tell her to fix it! The service company calls me and tells me it will be anywhere from 3 weeks to a month before my oven will be fixed! This means NO OVEN FOR THANKSGIVING! not to mention my wife's birthday is on November 25th, so that's 2 birthday's with NO Oven!
Bottom line is AHS does not know who they are sending into your home and they really don't care!!! I have been without a oven for almost 3 months now! and I have a so called warranty! I will be contacting Rip Off Report about this also! Someone needs to do something about this company, they take your money on time every month but take their time when it's time for them to fix your problem! If you don't believe me look up their reviews on YELP! You will see a Ton of unhappy customers! I am very upset and dissatisfied! The name of the company they sent out is AAR appliance repair out of Glendale, Ca....Look up their YELP! Reviews too! You will see the same Terrible Reviews!
Hi Gerald, I appreciate you sharing your experience on this oven request. This is an important matter that we would like to address. Please allow time for a case manger to contact you on today for possible options regarding the oven. Thank you. We apologize for the inconvenience and delay you have experienced.

The air conditioner unit wasn’t cooling completely. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was good on the warranty company’s part. The first vendor they referred me to didn’t go well. The contractor had promised to call by a certain time and they didn’t. When I called them back, they kept telling me that they would call. They called the warranty company back and told the warranty company that they had given me a different time, and they didn’t. So I called the warranty company and said that this thing wasn’t going well and I wanted to know if they could get me another contractor which they did. The second contractor was really good. Since the repair, it’s been perfect. American Home Shield is very consumer-oriented and they did a good job. Overall experience was good and it’s referable.

I have been a customer with AHS for about 7 years. My first problem was with my master shower. They dispatched a plumbing company and they did not fix the problem, instead they cut a large square hole in my wall which was later on poorly repaired. AHS then dispatched Duvall plumbing company. They decided to cut the laminate flooring and lift my shower to see if the leak was coming from beneath. That too was not the problem so they dispatched another plumber from the same company and he fixed my leak but my master bathroom was destroyed.
I called AHS and Duvall and told them my bathroom should not have been left this way so they dispatched someone else to fix things, NOT!! This person glued the laminate back but it looks disgusting. He glued the wood panel back but that kept falling off and my bathroom was painted with a white gloss paint and he decided to use a regular dull white. To make matters worse I had recently purchased some pricey red decorative hand towel which he used to clean up the paint and debris with and toss in my shower trash can. I contacted AHS, they pretty much said it was not their problem, they did their part so I should contact Duvall plumbing. I called them and told them I should be reimbursed or my bathroom should be repaired better or at least painted with the same glossy paint. They told me neither would be done. I was 7 months pregnant at the time so I did not pursue any further.

Our dishwasher wouldn't work. It was not very old. So we submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone. The claims rep was good, very understanding and helpful. The contractor was good, too. The dishwasher was working when he left. However, I couldn't get it to go back on the settings. I had to call GE back and had to turn the breaker off and count to 30 or something and got it back on. After that, it worked fine. This was my first experience with them and it was a very pleasant one and I appreciate their concern and their being so conscientious.
Margaret your feedback regarding your dishwasher service request is valued! We are pleased to hear that your first experience was a good one!

I've been with them for a long time but they've changed all their things, like before they cover a lot more and now they told me, "Oh, you can choose 10 things that you want to cover." I thought, "Hey, wait a minute. What is this? I'm paying more and they are covering less?" That sounds ridiculous. Also, last time I called I noticed that for what I'm paying, it's only a few more dollars that I have to pay a month, but it has been going up and up and I don't use it that often. I also noticed that the one payment whenever they come will be $75 instead of $100, but they don't tell you that when you call up. So actually you have to call as a new member. If you call as a new member, they give you that information but if you have had them for a while, they are not going to tell you anything. As of right now I pay $100 every time somebody comes to do a repair.
Aside from that, sometimes the companies they use are not very good. They are not very reliable. Recently the air conditioning wasn't working correctly. I thought it was just easy fixing, but actually they changed it and when they changed it I noticed that they ruined my ceiling a little bit. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault. It was that company they used but it could have gone back to them. But I didn’t tell them. That was my fault for not telling them, so I had to fix it myself. I brought another company to fix it. Anyway I'm not angry with them. I still have American Home Shield. But whenever the contractors they use are not good, I let them know.

We bought a house in Sept.2013 and got your services and SO glad we did so, cause in Dec. our heating and cooling unit went out and you all sent out Gra-Tak to look at our unit. The first visit the young man couldn't find the #'s he needed but said he would be out the next day to have someone else look for them. A week later still no call or look from their company so I call and get the run around like it was my fault, the #'s couldn't be read and that maybe we tampered with the unit or the previous owners had so I needed to call around and see if they had work done on the unit. I had never heard of such so I call your office and explain the problem and the next day they had another company come out and he found the #'s right away.
A little old yeah, but they're in plain site (I followed this time) and he ordered a new compressor and in a few days came and put it on. It worked for a day and then blew again. So they sent the man back out and he said it was a bad compressor so ordered another one and it too went out and blew lines and Freon out so they ordered a whole new unit. We did have to pay for the Freon but your company paid for half after the 2nd one blew and got the new one put in. It did take about a month from 1st call to last unit being put in with over $500.00 electric bills for 2 months but in the end it was worth it so we renewed again this yr.

I have had an AHS contract since purchasing our home about 3 months ago. I was so excited about the idea of having a warranty program like this. I have very much become disillusioned. Don't even try to create an online account - it has been 3 months and I still haven't been able to get anyone to help me complete it and the countless times I have tried I consistently get an error message. When you try to call the service line, there is no direct link to general customer service, nor is there an option for online support. I have sent in 4 emails via their contact us button on their website and not received even 1 reply. I am sure their service providers that come out to the house are great - it would just be nice to be able to find that out. I would schedule some service if I could get some help:(

Home sellers: It would be best if you just offered your buyer $500 than give them this shady warranty. It costs us more money to not have things fixed than it would if we took the $500 and went with your own contractors. Mackenzie and Tara, the lack of customer service reps I happened to work with, were condescending and not interested in saving their company money. I told them that my ceiling fan could be fixed for less than $20 and wanted to have the contractor sent back out on the same $75 I'd already paid for no service, but they're insisting that I replace a $300 fan for $150. And won't reimburse the minimal cost to fix the fan even with a receipt. BBB and Attorney General here I come!

Three months after purchasing our house the pool heater went out. We called American Home Shield who sent a contractor to fix. This pool heater was pretty old and they insisted that the contract replace several parts practically rebuilding the entire unit. 6 years later we have had to call for service 3 -4 times a year, the unit will run for a few weeks and then go out again. Every time AHS sends a contractor and replaces a part. Sometimes the same part over and over.
This past year the heater once again went out in May, AHS sends someone out (yet another $75 out of pocket). The contractor replaces ANOTHER part and says it's fixed. I come home from work and yet again it is not. I am told a recall will be sent but it will be 3 days. 3 Days later the contractor comes out, says he had to replace another part but now my entire pool is leaking air.
After about 5 more trips the heater is working again. But it takes longer to heat up than ever. I tell AHS this and they say the the contractor has stated that the pool heater isn't made to heat very high. REALLY? It worked great and heated just fine for 3 months when I purchased the house. Now two months later the heater will heat then cool over and over, never actually heating. Another call to AHS and now the contractor says that lizards have fried the control board and they will not cover! After six SIX years of getting the run around from this company they now will not cover repairs EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH. I am outraged and would never recommend this company to anyone. I will be canceling ASAP.

American Home Shield has finally resolved the issue and has provided me a like dishwasher.
Original Review: Nov. 12, 2014
My very basic model dishwasher stopped cleaning and drying 2 1/2 months ago and it costs $200 in the market. 2 different contractors have come at 5 different times throughout these past months. Drain pump, gas kits all around, heating element, control board, fuses have been replaced or at least receipts show that parts have been replaced. On 3rd trip Sears tech, one of the contractors, started telling AHS that this unit not worthy of repair but the AHS person lied to the contractor saying that customer insist on repairing so go ahead and repair. That’s when they changed the drain pump and O-ring. It still did not work.
On 5th trip Sears’s tech advised AHS to replace the unit and AHS told the tech to let the customer know that AHS will be contacting with the replacement option within 48 hours. This morning 48 had gone and no one contacted, so I called. I was told that tech said that he can repair the unit in $81 to AHS and no cost to customer so I could use that $85 toward the purchase. This was a lie as well because tech never said that. I have asked them to fix the dishwasher. I know that AHS is the trying to trap me between contractors and AHS because I was able to listen to these conversations as I was right there with the contractors and I could hear the person voice from AHS side through the phone. So basically AHS will say one thing to the contractor and something totally different to the customer when customer calls back.
I never asked for the replacement. I just wanted my dishwasher to get fixed so my old mom doesn’t have to stand and do the dishes by hand. Even with all the discount AHS gets from the contractor, I bet they have spent more money than the replacement but it is their decision. I just want my dishwasher fixed. If some read it, please do something to help me. I am not willing to take the option of using $81 repair cost towards the purchase. Either give me the proper replacement cost or fix it.

I called a third time on a Saturday afternoon explained the problem and stated that I did not want the same contractor sent to my home. I was told that in order to send a different contractor I would have to pay an additional $75. I refused. Asked to speak to a supervisor. No supervisor available. I was told that my information would be sent via email to a supervisor who would call me back in 24 hours. I explained that I had an 83 year old woman in the home who could not tolerate the heat and this needed immediate attention. The girl I spoke to was extremely rude and absolutely no help whatsoever. To date, no call from a supervisor. My experience is that the contractors AHS sends are incompetent and the customer service provided by AHS is useless.

Because our oven would not ignite I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and repair it. The contractor came out to repair it and charged me $125. He put an igniter in the bottom of the stove and then he left. Two weeks later, the boiler in the stove did not work. So I called American Home Shield to have the man come back to find out what the problem was. He came back and he told me that that was a different issue. It wasn't the same issue and he wanted me to pay another $125 for him to repair it. I was not willing to do that because he should have repaired it on the first visit when the stove wasn't working the first time. He said he wasn't going to do it. He called the company and I called the company.
They didn't give me any satisfaction in terms of sending anyone out until the last person I talked to who wanted to have me to call somebody to have him come out and fix it and they were going to give me a voucher in order to cover the expense. But since it is too much of an issue to be bothered with paying somebody every month, to get somebody out to fix something and they don't do it the first time, I canceled the contract instead.
It took forever for us to get to somebody to cancel the policy. The first lady I called back said, “We'll have to send somebody out.” Then I had to be transferred to someone else. Then I had to be transferred to someone else. Then I sent them an email over their website. Then somebody called me. The only person that offered me any kind of consolation was the last person that I talked with who I indicated that it wasn't working for me and we were going to cancel the contract and she said she was going to send us a letter to that effect.
We apologize for the inconvenience George. We hate to hear that you requested to cancel the warranty and hope to improve our services based on your feedback. Thank you for sharing.

I have had AHS for 3 years and they have denied half of my claims. In one instance I had a sink knob that did not work and the plumber said that the only option AHS would allow him to check was "excessive force" which would not be covered by the warranty. When I told them what the plumber said, they said that I had to call him and have him call them, however he never called me back. So I was stuck paying the $75 deductible and the cost to fix it. When I told them I was disappointed with them and that I would cancel, they said that they would be happy to process that for me. I would not recommend them and would find another company with better service.

We've been with American Home Shield for a while and so far they've been doing a good job. The only little incident was what happened here lately.
We had a faucet that they were trying to replace. They've been out three times. At first they said it wasn't leaking. Then after they left, it started leaking. So I called them again. They came back out and said, "Okay, we need a new faucet." So we put a new faucet on. But then right after he left, I said, "Well, let me look underneath to make sure it's not leaking." And when I checked it, sure enough it was leaking. I’m not sure if it’s leaking through the connection or if it’s leaking where you have the flush on top of the sink. I’m not sure if it's the little rubber thing around there or what, but it’s really leaking pretty bad. To make things a little bit worse when he replaced the faucet, he replaced it with a silver chrome faucet instead of a brass. We have a double sink and the other side of the sink is a brass type faucet! (AHS later informed me that their policy is they put exactly the same thing that you had on, same color, same everything.)
So we called American Home Shield and said, "Look, the guy has been out here three times and the faucet is still leaking. We want to get it fixed." I asked is there any way possible they would consider a different plumbing company out? Because I just want to get a new set of eyes in there, somebody new that hasn’t seen the problem before to see if he can fix the problem. And I’m hoping we could get that resolved. Because it's kind of hectic, my wife and I both work, and usually when they said they’re gonna come it’s always from 10 to 2 or from 12 to 5 in the afternoon. So when you set up an appointment you pretty much have to take the whole day off, or at least 3/4 of the day off. In my case, I usually have to take the whole day off because it takes me at least an hour to get to work...
Anyway, bottom line is we’re trying to get the plumber people to come back to see if they can fix the leak. But other than that AHS has always done a good job in the past. In fact I always tell a lot of people that I’ve talked to that we got American Home Shield, it gives you peace of mind because you’re paying your premium, and if something breaks down you can call American Home Shield. You don’t have to be looking at the phone book or looking at the computer and say, “Who can I call?” This way you just call them, they send somebody out and you don’t have to worry about that headache. And when you do call them on the phone, they usually do a good job taking care of the claim. It takes a while by the time you call and by the time they get out here. But usually it goes pretty smooth.
Thank you for being a loyal customer Edward. We hope your faucet issues is resolved. Please let us know if we need to assist. We value your feedback!

However, shortly after moving into the home we noticed our Roman Tub in the Master bathroom had a small leak in the hot water faucet. We called AHS and they dispatched a plumber. The plumber came out and indicated it required a special tool which they did not have. I called AHS and they dispatched a second plumber. This plumber came out and they also could not fix the faucet. Being Frustrated I called AHS a 3rd time and a 3rd plumber was dispatched. The plumber came a determined they could fix it with some new parts but said AHS would not cover it.
AHS indicated the warranty would not cover it. The plumber ordered the parts and requested I pay 50% upfront. Once the parts came in the plumber attempted to fix it but could not and actual made the leak worse. Now the tub cannot be used at all for fear of flooding. I have filed a complaint with the BBB on the plumber for replacement of the repair cost. They reimbursed me half but I am appealing for full reimbursement. However, I feel AHS should cover the cost of the repair and repair my faucet. I also feel AHS should reimburse me the $75.00 service fee. I have called AHS/email them numerous times(because you cannot talk to a manager directly, not a supervisor). I have been told my case was under research. AHS called me today and I felt the Customer service supervisor was very disrespectful. She finally indicated she would have a manager contact me in 24-48 hours. We will see. So far AHS has not been very responsive.
AS I said in the beginning, I have been extremely pleased with AHS in previous years until this repair. It seems AHS is not interested in attempting to resolve your situation or at least meeting you halfway. I am seriously thinking of trying a different company like CHOICE after my policy is up. Right now I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AHS to anyone but this might change depending how AHS responds in the next 24-48 hours. I may also seek other legal options... I would really like a MANAGER from AHS to call me to discuss this as according to my contract a repair for pre-existing conditions (sediment) is covered provided it is not readily identifiable which it isn't unless you take the faucet apart.
Hello Gregory, thank you for making us aware of the issue you had with the plumbing service work order. The call was escalated to a case manager, Kina, and to the supervisor Franch. I will have them to contact you if you're still in need of assistance. Please advise.

The first experience we had with American Home Shield was very negative. This was when we first bought the house. We had to have a new air conditioner installed. The service guy installed a new Carrier air conditioner but didn't install it properly. His job was red tagged twice. And since it was not installed properly, the water was not draining properly and caused a great whole of damage to my kitchen ceiling, which had to be repaired. He insisted that we allow him to do the repair because he was responsible for it. And Moe sent Larry and Curly out here to fix it. They got in to an argument over who was doing it right. That was not a pleasant experience. To this day, there is a problem with my air conditioner. I went off American Home Shield one year when they raised the prices. As soon as that happened, my water heater went out so I went back with American Shield.
The most recent claim I filed with AHS was for a leaking faucet. They came and replaced the faucet, and actually had to order new one. They told us where we could pick up the parts and we picked up the parts. Then we called them and they came in and got it replaced. I re-upped with them a couple of times since then, so overall my experience with AHS has been good. I would recommend them but I would suggest that they not use Spark air conditioning because that's the one who messed us up. He now operates under a different name but I would suggest they double check if they're using him as a vendor.

My washing machine stopped working so I filed a claim by calling in. The representatives on the phone were nice. However the contractor who came out wasn't the best. He just talked on the phone majority of the time and said he would be back to fix it but I did not hear from him for a few days so I called. I was told that the machine part just came and I had to schedule them to come back. He came back and fixed it. The washer works now and it's fine. American Home Shield has gotten the job done when I needed it.

We purchased our home a 9 months ago, and with it came a 1 year American Home Shield warranty. When our water heater started gushing water on a Saturday we called them and their automated phone service said to turn off the water to the tank and the soonest they could send someone out was Monday, with no time frame. Then, when the man comes to check out the leak he tells us there is nothing he can do because we turned the water off so he can't see where the leak is. When I offered to turn it on, he said American Home Shield told him not have it turned on, that we would need to schedule another appt. So now we have to wait another day with no hot water just for them to diagnose the problem. God only knows how long it will take for them to fix it. Felt like the only reason for the appointment today was to get my $75 dollar copay. Please don't use these people.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Aaron. We would like to have a case manager follow up with this request. I will have someone contact you to assist. Sorry for the delay!

This company is horrible and I am a contractor and try to give any company and especially a contractor the benefit of the doubt. This company sends people out to your home and fixes nothing. Then when you call because nothing got fixed they send another contractor out that has no idea what the first contractor did. I literally watched as they tried to replace the same part over and over. Then when it comes to actually replacing something they claim your appliance or equipment needs maintenance or pretty much any excuse to not pay. They lure you in with low monthly pricing but it gets you nowhere. Takes days if not weeks to send another contractor to you and even then the contractor is restricted on what he says and does and because this company would never spend more than you pay to fix anything. The whole purpose of a warranty is to protect you from the big charges and replacements not to band aid your house together until it really breaks and then deny your claim. There are a lot of good warranty companies but this is not one of them.
David your feedback is appreciated. Being a contractor, I'm sure you are aware that warranty companies rely on contractors to give their expertise on what has failed, and what it will take to either repair or replace a covered item. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the warranty. If you have an outstanding service request that you would like assistance with, you are more than welcome to provide your information for a case manager to follow up with you. Otherwise we will use this feedback to improve our services and our list of service contractors. Thank you for sharing!

I have two houses under American Home Shield. I haven't had problems with them. They have always worked good to get the people. I'm satisfied. There were a couple of times that something has gone wrong and I was told they couldn't do it so I read the fine print and it wasn't covered. The last thing we had was a problem with the plumbing. I called them and then they contacted me to let me know about the person who was going to respond to the call and that he would call us within 24 hours to set up an appointment. The gentleman called within 12 hours and set up an appointment, and he was very good. He got right to it, finished it, got it all done, cleaned up and I have no problems since then. I watched what the contractor was doing, made sure that I felt he was doing good and he was. He knew what to do and how to do it. He had a little trouble getting the thing unplugged. There was something in there that was messed up but he stuck with it, and got it done.

I am writing to express my frustration with American Home Shield in the regards of an existing issue that I've been having with my AC compressor since April 2013. First off, I have all electric in my home, therefore, my outside compressor runs year long providing both heat and AC. To begin, in April of 2013, my compressor died. I place a service call with American Home Shield. The contractor came out and informed me that the compressor to my unit had gone up. American Home Shield approved the work however, since my AC unit is old and required R22 refrigerant it would be a cost to me of $1200. So just to keep a running tally, that's $42 for monthly service plan, $100 for the service fee, and $1200 for the refrigerant. So far I'm out of pocket ~$1342. All worked seemingly well until the end of November of 2013 (of course right around the time when family and friends were in town for the holidays). I placed another service call around the beginning of December resulting in another $100. Same contractor came out, told me he hit the reset button outside my unit and that all should be fine. It wasn't, the reset button had to constantly be reset (which I know shouldn't have been the case if the unit was working properly).
He says he found some minor issues to the outside unit that he repaired (off the top of my head I can't remember what they were). January 2014, I started having issues again. Placed another service call, same repair man came out. This time he decides to take a look at the inside unit (mind you, this is the first time he has come inside). Tells me I need a new evaporator coil, which will require an addition $800 from me for more refrigerant. Now I'm out roughly $2,142 not counting the monthly plan charge of $42. He also tells me he found a small leak outside that was causing my unit to leak refrigerant. That of which he stated he repaired. I pay the money, and missed an entire day of work. All seemingly goes well until February of 2014 at around 5:30 am when I wake up to cold air blowing on my head. At this point, I'm beside myself with frustration and anger. I placed a service call yet again, around 7:00am, missing yet another day of work. I speak to a service rep who hears my plight and decides to send another contractor out to assess the work of the previous contractor. She also says that she is escalating the issue to the research department and to expect a phone call.
The new contractor comes out and is in disbelief at the amount of shortcomings of the previous contractor. One of the main issues found was the shotty work that was done in repairing the leak outside. All work is approved and repaired. March-April 2014 I begin having issues again with the same unit. I place another service call (can't remember if I paid this time or not). Second contractor comes out only to discover more issues with the inside unit that should have been addressed with the original contractor, consequently I missed yet another day of work. End of April, I have issues again, this time with the evaporator coil that was replaced by the previous contractor. To make the long story short, about 1/3 of the coil was exposed which would cause the compressor to work extra hard shortening its lifespan, causing me to miss another day of work. This issue was resolved, however, due the the stress on the compressor, it blew again in June. After spending countless hours on the phone with American Home Shield, crying and missing yet another day of work, I was told that I would have all repairs done free of charge. You'd think this would be the end of this nightmare, alas it is not.
Just this morning, I tried to run my heat for the first time this season only for the unit to not be functioning AGAIN! I placed another call with American Home Shield, I asked for a manager only to be told there is none available. I tell my story to the technician on the other end who, once again tells me that this matter will be escalated and that I should get a call within 24 hours. I told her this is the second time I'm supposed to receive a call only to never get one. I seem to have better luck dealing with the contractor first then calling my home warranty company. I'm totally beside myself with frustration at this point. I've spent a lot of money (so much in fact that I can't even remember how much). I have to wait for call backs which never seem to happen even when I'm told the situation is escalated. I have better luck calling myself or even calling the contractor directly and letting them deal with my home warranty company. Since 2013 I haven't had one season when I didn't have a major issue/repair of this same unit, and the issues are not short lived, they seem to drag out for almost entire seasons. I'm now back at square one with the holidays approaching, temps taking a serious dip, etc.
At what point will American Home Shield replace the unit? At what point do I, the customer, get decent service from the service that I'm paying for month after month? And at what point does American Home Shield stop using a contractor that is known for giving horrendous service? Just to note, I'm trying my best to revisit this timeline to the best of my ability without having exact dates in front of me for I'm at work, and will have to leave early again to be home in time for the contractor, subsequently costing yet another $100.
We appreciate your patience and feedback. We would like to ensure that a case manager follows up with this service issue. You will be contacted within 48 business hours. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The contractor you are referring to will be re-evaluated by our contractor relations department, as we expect qualified service contractors to work with our customers. Informed AHS that they have a crook in their list of contractor but never heard from AHS either. Can't get anybody live to talk to but their robotic answering service where you punch code but no call back.

Three or four months ago we had a problem with the refrigerator which is a sub-zero refrigerator. It took the repairman like a year because they were sending not certified. The people that were coming did not have enough information about the product. So that was a problem that we had. Had they sent a certified technician, the problem would have been solved within a day. Other than that, we've had good experience with American Home Shield. Recently we had a couple of commodes leaking. The AHS representative that I talked to on the phone was very nice and polite. I submitted the claim over the phone because their website is not user-friendly. It was a repeating problem and you cannot report that online. Anyway, AHS sent a company and they fixed it. The contractor was very professional and polite.

I am writing to express my displeasure with a plumbing company used by American Home Shield. They have been to my home 3 times and each time another plumber had to come out. Once another plumber sees what has been done, they say to call them, they can't touch it. Now I don't have heat, and another repairman just left unable to service me. I have paid 3 times and still nothing is working. What is so bad, when they came out the last time, they left my unit with parts unattached, paper in my fan and parts left out. I really think that AHS should check their vendors periodically. Since this is a public board, I'm not posting the company's name. That is not fair to blast them, but it's also not fair that I don't have heat after all these calls either. I tried talking to a rep at AHS and got nowhere. Therefore I'm having to solve my issues myself. I cannot freeze another night, nor pay for a hotel when I pay a mortgage. She has to go by the guidelines and so do I.
HI Dometria, thank you for making us aware of this issue you're still having with the plumbing. We will notify the assigned case manager, Vicki, to have her follow up with you until this is resolved.

The air conditioning unit went out and it was a hot week here at Troy Valley at the time - around a hundred everyday. My wife is a type 2 diabetic and has a lot of medical problems. We called one of the people American Home Shield suggested but I thought they were very rude. I was requesting the repair for Thursday but they said they could only get out by Monday. My wife called American Home Shield back and got the name of the company One Call and they were out here within a couple of hours. It was just wonderful. They were extremely efficient, very polite, very clean and extremely courteous. The representatives from American Home Shield were very courteous and knowledgeable. They're very efficient and very responsive. The only problem was the first company can only come out Monday - they didn't try and help us find somebody else.

American Home Shield has been very good. They have been very helpful when I submit a claim. They answer the phone right away and know what you're talking about. The technicians they sent have all been conscientious, clean and show up on time. Since the house was built, we get a lot of dust in the house. I changed the air filters regularly and it just keeps going on and on. We don't know where it comes from. So I asked for someone to come out and check the duct work. The man that came out was very helpful. He crawled under the house and said there's nothing wrong. He offered some other suggestions. He apologized and said, "I'm sorry I couldn't find anything wrong to fix." I recommended AHS to about eight of my neighbors.

My air conditioning unit kept going on and off because the breaker box wouldn't stay on so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I had problems getting someone out but they did tell me it might be hard to get anyone out because of the time and season. They just sent it in as a regular call. I finally got the guy to come out and they just checked it out and said that it was the breaker box. He looked at it and turned the breaker box back on and said it was the breaker box.
I had been on vacation and came in and everything was off. He said that it should be due to the fact that there had been some thunderstorms in the area and some areas had had transformers going out and it may have had a power surge that caused it. He said that it was turned on now and everything should be okay. It didn't so I called back in and they had him come back out. He told them that he told me that I should have an electrician come out and I said, "No, he didn't indicate that." I got an electrician out to look at it. He said he did not see that there was anything wrong but said I had a very good breaker box.
Everything looked good but since it had been there awhile he would replace that one and see if it made any difference, which he did and it made no difference. I called him back, he came back, looked at it and did nothing for a whole week. I kept calling but he wouldn't answer my phone calls or come back out. He finally came back out at the end of the week and never did anything else other than he just looked at the unit and saw no indication that anything was wrong. He didn't know what to do because unless he was there when it went off, he couldn't tell what was happening. We're talking 100-90 degree weather and I had gone over a week putting up with that.
I finally called back and requested someone else to come out and look at it. In the meantime, when they first came out the very first time, the guy that came out and checked out the first time, when he came out I had paid him $100. As he was finishing up, he started to walk out the door and because he kept going in and out, I thought he was going to the truck to write up the order for me. He never came back so he never even wrote what he did or what he looked at or gave me a receipt and neither did the guy that came out at the end of week. They never wrote up what they looked at or gave me anything. When the second guy came out, he went out and looked at it and immediately told me a part was burnt and said it should have been replaced when they replaced the capacitor because you can see where it's been damaged. He replaced that and another part that was next to it which he said really wasn't the right size for the top of my air conditioner.
After he replaced those, I have not had any problem with it since. He told me he would be back on a Saturday but didn't show up. It went all weekend. I called him back and he wouldn't return the calls. I finally called him on Monday and he said he'll come back out. Then I got a call back from them saying I still owed them $100 for the service done. I'm going, "No, I paid the guy when he came out. I gave my hundred dollar bill," and I said if they're saying that I didn't pay it that's not going to be right because number one he never gave me any paperwork. Overall, our experience with the American Home Shield service has been good. When I finally told them about what was going on, they immediately got someone else out here. On their part, they did everything they could. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The toilet in the bathroom kept running water so I went online to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I followed up with a phone call to make sure I did everything the way it was supposed to be done so I could get a technician to repair my problem. The person whom I spoke with checked and said that I had done everything correctly. They gave me a number to call for the people that were going to come out to do the repair. It was quick as they were out the next day. The contractor gave me a little advice on what not to do so the situation will not happen again. He was very polite, very courteous and very neat with his work. I signed the piece of paper and paid him the deductible and he was on his merry way. I haven't had any more problems with it.
The biggest thing that I like with American Home Shield is that it gives me a sense of security knowing that I won't have any problems getting anything broken in my house fixed. I contacted American Home Shield because my light fixture came apart on the wall. The fixture itself works. The electrician said it looks like somebody broke it. So I called and said I didn't break it. I have plenty of money to pay for the light fixture, and it's a strange situation. I've never seen it before or after. But I said it just broke and I don't have any way to prove it. I said I've done a lot of business with them and they've always taken care of all my stuff. The lady I talked to said they'll take care of the $75 charge. Before I had the electrician come out, I called and said this is very peculiar. I asked if I can take a picture of it. Sent it to the electrician before he comes out because I don't want to pay $75 just to have him say somebody broke it. So American Home Shield took care of the problem but I didn't have to pay $75. I will have to get a new light fixture.
The contractor came up there and looked at it, and he said it's hard to tell because he's not a metal engineer, but it is strange that it came apart on the wall. He was very nice and knowledgeable. He had to give American Home Shield the report based on what he saw. He said it looks like somebody broke it, but he didn't fix anything cause unless he had a welding kit, he couldn't put it back together. My house is more of a traditional, country type home. He didn't have any fixture choices to choose from. So I said I'll just buy my own and then call somebody out here to take that one down and put the new one up. They've always been real good and they always send good quality people out here to fix the job so I'm happy with them. They backed the insurance that I pay for.

American Home Shield has very elaborate contracts that they will use as soon as something expensive comes up. I have a plumbing stoppage in my house. The pipe is broken somewhere in the corner of the house foundation. In order to reach it, the plumber wants to dig from the outside to get an accurate assessment and fix the problem with the least damage. So because he's going to have to dig from the outside AHS will not cover. It seems that they are more focus on the fine print than providing good customer service. I have two houses with them and I came here to research a new company to switch to but I decided to leave some feedback so others don't make the same mistake I did.
Hi Rosendo, I apologize for any confusion the contract verbiage may have caused. That is correct that if it is outside the main foundation, it is a non-covered repair. If there are any further coverage questions or assistance that is needed please contact us.
Rosendo updated their star rating from a 2 stars to a 1 stars after speaking with the company outside of the ConsumerAffairs platform.
I just got an email that AHS is trying to clean their reviews and that the claimed to have resolved the issue. Not only they didn't solve the issue, but they are trying to get negative reviews deleted to get more business. My claim was not resolved and I stand by my review. Read my review and if that doesn't convince you to find another company, request a copy of their contract and read the small print. If you still not convinced call to enroll and a very nice person will answer, then call the claims department and notice the difference!

About two months before we filed for American Home Shield to come fix it, the refrigerator started freezing. We noticed ice in the back and days later, it started making a weird clicking noise. So we tried to turn the refrigerator off and let it defrost on its own. We turned it back on and it was fine for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing so we called them. I submitted the claim online and it was a lot easier than doing it over the phone. The contractor came in and was able to diagnose the problem. He defrosted the refrigerator again, took apart the components in the back and figured out that it was the thermostat that was causing the problem. He put everything back together and ordered the thermostat and came back a week and a half later. He was really friendly, professional and quick - in and out. He fixed the problem so obviously he's good at what he does. This experience with American Home Shield has been great. Anytime we've had an issue, they have fixed it. I had some issues with my AC unit. I called American Home Shield, They now currently have an actual recording so it speeds up the process, which is great because before, we had to speak to a live person. That was too difficult because the people they had there didn't really know what was going on. So going into more of a recording or an automated thing, it works a lot quicker. I got a response email within minute confirming that I will be contacted within 24-48 hours. Shortly afterwards, the contractor contacted me. They were out the next day and assessed the problem.
However American Home Shield doesn't necessarily have control of what contractors to send out. The contractors they send out have not been the best. I don't know if that's the fault of American Home Shield. It's the contractors. I'm not sure how they're compensated but needless to say it takes a few times for them to come out to get the job done. It took a few contractors to come out here. (This one right now is mediocre but they’re the best out of the three sent over.) So I’ve had to call American Home Shield and ask, "Don’t send me this contractor, they were horrible.... Don’t send me this one, they were even worse..." And when I call back to express the issues I had, I don't go to the automated systems, it kicks me to a customer service rep, and for some reason the customer service rep changes from time to time and I don't know if all the information has been documented into the system so that you can just pick up and see exactly what happened with a specific claim. There's a lot of miscommunication.
