There was a problem with my air-conditioning, which I first thought was plumbing, and so I called American Home Shield. The representative was great and the gentleman that did the work was actually very knowledgeable and he did a very good job. But the contracting company who was doing the booking part of it had scheduling mistake. I was led to believe that they were gonna be there the next day, but they didn’t come the next day. It actually ended up being a couple days out before he got back to me. But I never had problem with American Home Shield. They’ve always been very courteous and seemed to be understanding. Even though when I’m a little upset and I wanted to do it right now and I don’t want to be put on hold, they’ve been very good about that.

American Home Shield (AHS) sent a repairman from A U.S. Air to fix my central air conditioner in May 2013. He failed to diagnose the problem and simply replaced the Freon in the unit. At this time my AHS warranty covered Freon replacement. Over the next year or so, A U.S. Air had to come out 5 or 6 more times to add Freon and the occasional stop leak but only actually diagnosed the problem after multiple follow-up and complaint calls. Meanwhile I renewed my AHS home warranty which changed Freon coverage rules in August 2013.

AHS refuses to honor the contract that was in place when the initial call was made even though all the subsequent service requests were pursuant to the initial contract and service request. The employees and customer service reps cannot possibly be as stupid as they pretend. Therefore I can only conclude they are reading from a script from which they are not allowed to deviate. My research uncovered this to be a SOP for this company and a lawsuit is required to get them to do the right thing. Even though it is not cost effective, I'll be filing a small claims lawsuit just the same.

Hi Stacy, we understand your concerns regarding contractual changes. With the contract coverage stemming from a one year term, the warranty is normally honored based upon the current year's coverage. If a customer pays for any refrigerant within the same year an issue re-occurs, then customers are covered on the cost of refrigerant. It is unfortunate that the problem returned outside of last year's coverage. I will forward your feedback to the appropriate departments. Hopefully, we can improve our coverage to fir the needs of customers that are faced with re-occurring issues in the following year.

At the recommendation of a friend, I talked my husband into getting house insurance from American Home Shield for our appliances. This is one more mistake to add to the very many I've made over the years. They sent a kid in JUNE after I requested one in MAY to come look at the AC that was not working. That nitwit said a spider web built so much pressure up in our system that it shredded a 1/4" steel cap on the freon tube. They refused to fix it after being completely rude and charging us $75 for that piece of BS.

I had it fixed by someone else for $185 in July after AHS kept us waiting that long to finally tell us their decision. The guy who fixed it told me it was on its last legs then. Then our hot water heater went out. That was another BS fiasco. We paid and installed a new one on our own. After more careful digging, I've found out AHS has been in several class action lawsuits for hiring contractors who will give reasons for not fixing things. My AC unit was classified as a "pest control issue." Now my heat is out and winter is coming on and after the way they treated me last time, I don't have the nerve to ask them to please come look at it again. This is a heads up. DO NOT GET AMERICAN HOME SHIELD. They are thieves and liars.

Hi Patricia, we understand your concerns. Seems like there are not many contractors in your area in order for the service request to have been transferred to a better qualifying contractor. The contractor you refer to will be re-evaluated and we will have our management from the contractor division to ensure that we improve our list of contractors so that we can ensure customer's in your area do not experience this. We value your feedback and if you decide to place a service request in the future, please let us know if you experience any issues so that we can address them, and form a quick resolution.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim because I needed a gasket on my refrigerator door. They were very polite and cooperative. I was very satisfied with the quickness of the appointment because it was done on a Friday night and the contractor came out Monday morning. They were very friendly. The repairperson called me to know he was coming. It didn’t take him very long and he came and fixed it. It runs more efficiently now. I recommended it to someone else and they’re joining American Home Shield.

I’m not impressed with American Home Shield. At the beginning, everything was fine when I submitted my claim It was easy when my husband did it on the phone. The contractor that came in was very nice. Our air conditioner was fixed and I thought we would only have to pay $75 for them to come out. However, we got an email a day later telling us that we have to pay for the cost of getting Freon in the air conditioner. We didn’t know that. It was working well after the repair, since we pay for everything, with no real help from Home Shield.

Hi Patsy we are sorry for the confusion regarding coverage. If you do not have a copy of your contract, we would be happy to send you one so that you know what type of coverage you have. We still have to pay Freon cost and pay the technicians for their visit, so please be assured that we have covered what is covered per your contract. This feedback is valuable to help us understand what changes we possibly need to make so thank you for sharing your experience.

I have been a contract holder with AHS for a number of years. I was referred by a neighbor and I too have referred others to AHS with no reservation. I've had to two claims, one on my thermostat in 2009 and the other on my garbage disposal in 2012. Both were handled swiftly and the work performed was to my satisfaction. I started out paying via 12 monthly payments, but decided to switch to an annual payment for the 2014 contract year. This is where my problems with AHS began.

I received a renewal notice that was generated on 11/02/2013 for contract ** in November 2013 for 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 in the annual amount of $589 to be paid in 12 monthly payments of $49.08 each. The Product Name was "HomeShield" and covered: Plumbing, Plumbing Stoppages, Water Heater, Duct work, Electrical System, Ceiling Fans, Dishwasher, Garbage Disposal, Built-in Microwave and Range/Oven/Cook top. I called 855.569.9586 in December 2013 to switch contract ** to 1 payment, but was told it was too soon and that I was to call back in the new year before 01/07/2014.

I again called 855.569.9586 on Friday, 01/03/2014 to switch contract ** to 1 payment. I paid $589 using my AMEX card ending in **. The payment posted to my AMEX card and to the AHS system on Monday, 01/06/2014. A few weeks later, I received a call from an AHS representative telling me that I had not paid for my 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 contract. I explained to them that I made a payment on 01/03/2014 that posted on 01/06/2014. I was put on hold while this was researched. After the representative confirmed the $589 payment, I specifically asked if I was going to have any problems with this contract. I was told NO.

I received a renewal notice that was generated on 10/04/2014 for contract ** in October 2014 for the same period of 01/07/2014 to 01/07/2015 in the annual amount of $639 to be paid in 1 payment of $639. The product name was "3x3 Combo" and covered: Air Conditioning including Duct work, Heating including Duct work, Electrical, Plumbing, Water Heaters, Garbage Disposals, Instant Hot/Cold Water Dispensers, Doorbells, Smoke Detectors, Ceiling Fans, Central Vacuums, Refrigerators, Clothes Washers, Clothes Dryers Ranges/Ovens/Cook tops, Dishwashers, Built-in Microwave Ovens, Trash Compactors, Garage Door Openers, Free Standing Ice Makers and Built-in Food Centers. I also received a PAST DUE NOTICE statement for contract ** dated 10/06/2014 advising me of a remaining balance due of $50 and a due date of 10/20/2014.

On Friday, 10/24/2014, I called the number on the past due notice statement 866.838.3335 three different times. I repeatedly told the representatives that my contract amount was $589 and that's why that's the amount that was paid. Each time I was told that I owed an additional $50 and that they couldn't waive the amount. I did not have the first contract in front of me at the time, nor did I realize it was for a different contract number, why would it be? No one could explain to me why I suddenly owed $50 after making a payment in full in January. I finally was able to speak with a supervisor, Melissa, who told me that on 9/29/2014 the credit of $589 was moved from miscellaneous cash account to contract ** but she didn't know what that was about. It wasn't until I asked whether I was going to have the same problem in 2015 paying an annual amount and then being told months later that the contract was not paid in full, that she promised to research how the representative that I spoke to on 01/03/2014 knew to process the payment for $589 and get back to me by end of day Tuesday, 10/28/2014.

I told my story repeatedly to AHS representatives (one of whom was a supervisor). No one thought to look closely at the $589 payment that posted on 01/06/2014 to see that it was for contract **. No one questioned why the same $589 had to be moved from miscellaneous cash or how it got there in the first place. No one questioned why contract ** was renewed (created?) in September 2014 despite me saying I made a payment in January 2014. Who makes a payment on a contract 9 months in advance of it even coming into existence?

The next day, Saturday, 10/25/2014, I was able to find the first contract that was originally issued to me in November 2013, **. When I called AHS after researching all of this, Erica, the representative, was super nice. Instead of asking me for the contract number at the onset of the call, she asked me for the property address, where she was then able to see all active and recent contracts for my property address. As I explained to her my findings, she was able to follow along. She ended up providing some very useful information: She told me that contract ** was created on 9/26, contract ** was CANCELLED on 9/29 resulting in the funds being moved to miscellaneous cash on and then the funds moved from miscellaneous cash to contract **. She also told me that a cancellation letter should have been sent to me, but there was no record of one in the AHS system. When I asked why the contract amount was different for the same period, she said it was because it was for a different product that covered more items.

I asked how my existing policy could be cancelled without any notice to me, a new policy issued with different terms for a higher dollar amount, for which I was now responsible for the $50 difference. She did not have an answer for me. Erica did however take copious notes to make sure that anyone researching contract ** would know exactly what happened. I do not understand WHY contract ** was cancelled. WHY contract ** was created with different terms. WHY my contract number was changed at all. WHY I was never notified about the cancellation, WHY the annual total increased by $50 thus creating the need to send me a past due notice

This experience with AHS has proved that the AHS call center representatives do not own problem resolution. Instead, all they cared about was the fact that contract ** showed a remaining balance of $50. None of them were willing to find out WHY it was owed. One representative even went as far to tell me that if I had proof that my contract was for $589 instead of $639, then I needed to send that in because the system said that the annual amount was $639. I, a consumer/client/customer/contract holder, had to do the research myself to find out that AHS not only changed my contract number in the middle of a contract year, they cancelled my existing contract with no notice to me and reissued a new contract with different terms, also increased the annual amount and demanded payment for the difference. Had I not had the original contract that was sent to me in November 2013, I would have not been able to substantiate my position and this debt likely would've resulting in a hit to my credit score if I refused to pay it. How many other unsuspecting consumers/clients/customers/contract holders has this happened to and they just pay up?

Seems to me, that's a nice way to increase the AHS profit margin if the demand for additional funds cannot be disputed. This practice and the subsequent treatment by AHS representatives is unconscionable, not to mention illegal---it gives a whole new meaning to the term Bait and Switch. The number of opportunities for process improvement are too numerous to mention here. Furthermore, it calls into question AHS's accounting practices--such as they may be, and auditing practices if they even exist.

Supervisor Melissa never did call me back on 10/28/2014. I had to call AHS myself only to be told It's all taken care of. Mysteriously, the product covered by contract ** was now HomeShield instead of 3x3 Combo, the annual amount was $589 instead of $639 and the $50 that was overdue was now gone. No one at AHS had the decency to even call me back to talk to me, after I called AHS repeatedly to get this resolved and was promised a return call. Their mistake became my problem. It further proves my point that the vast majority of AHS call center representatives all the way up to the supervisors-- lack professionalism and owning problem resolution. It was me who had to do my own research and point out to AHS their mistake. If I did not find that first contract with the $589 annual amount, they would've kept coming after me for $50 that I didn't owe.

Overall, I am very disappointed in a company that I held in such high regard for the service they provided. The renewal and billing practices of AHS needs to be reexamined and it wouldn't hurt to train the call center representatives to look at the entire picture when a consumer/client/customer/contract holder calls in. The soloed approach practiced by the 3 call center representatives that I spoke to on 10/24/2014 as well as the supervisor tells me that owning problem resolution is not what they're trained to do. If it falls outside of the script or their comfort zone, they just can't properly perform and instead resort to canned apologies, while still demanding payment an unjustified remaining balance. This situation should be a learning opportunity for all AHS call center staff.

I was very impressed with the company that they sent out. They're very professional and very friendly. Everyone at AHS was very helpful, very attentive, friendly and wonderful. I had a plumbing issue in the bathroom where there was a knocking sound coming from the wall. It’s the master bathroom and it was a very irritating issue in the beginning because I didn’t know where the knocking was coming from and they didn’t seem to pinpoint the problem. I was concerned that wall would took a while before it was put back together. I ended up having to locate someone myself because they didn’t have anybody to do it. That person came out and repaired it. He fixed or changed out the valve and the sound was gone. AHS then sent me a check to pay for the repairs. It didn’t quite cover the repair but we finally got that done after a while.

Overall it’s worth it. It’s worth having a warranty in the event you’d really have some major repairs. But it can be very, very cumbersome when you have to go through very different channels and wait for a long time before someone gets back to you to do your repair. The part that I dislike most is actually trying to reach them when you have the repair person right here and it takes a very long time. Because it is very annoying sometimes when the dispatch people come out and they have to call back. That lag time, that long time to get approval to go ahead and do it, that wait time is way too long. So, a lot of the people who they send out are frustrated because they can’t get access and then there’s a million questions when they do talk to somebody. But otherwise, it’s worth having the warranty than not to have it.

Once AHS got finished, I knew I had a cartridge in the shower that leaked, so we ordered another one. American Home Shield was on a real estate transaction and the homeowner opted to renew for several years on the property. Summer of 2014 the microwave stopped working. After sending 2 different contractors on July 28 AHS provided an option to repair or pay upgrade fee to replace brand name. They encouraged the homeowner to replace the appliance with a different brand name, although homeowner advised them that every other appliance in the kitchen was the same name brand. Homeowner opted to have repaired, even though told 3-week process.

On October 14 AHS sent an email that repair's impossible, and that they would need to restart the entire process to price out a comparable brand with the same features. Homeowner opted for same brand replacement and paying the difference. After 2 more weeks with no response, homeowner called two different numbers, being put on hold with each number 28 minutes and 17 minutes, respectively. That dispatcher agreed to work hard to generate a new credit memo same day towards us replacing as discussed previously in JULY. As of November 1, no response. It is ridiculous for AHS to even consider a homeowner would replace an appliance in a custom home with a brand that differs from the rest of the appliances in the kitchen, which immediately reduces the value of the property. I am a licensed Realtor and this bad advice is a bad business practice.

American Home Shield is the best home warranty company out there. I had someone before and I had problems with them, but I had no issues with American Home Shield. The last repair I had was a faucet leak in my kitchen. It was repaired. Then it had a little leakage afterwards. Somebody came back on Monday and corrected the problem. I did my claim online and it was easy and user-friendly. When the contractors arrived, they were friendly and professional. The sink they repaired was working perfectly. This is the second home I have with AHS. They're excellent.

There were two guys and they were very pleasant, very nice and knowledgeable. I've been really happy with them. This is my third renewal with AHS. I think they do a good job.

I had a bad experience over my air conditioner repair. I waited for a long time to get my issue repaired. It was very inconvenient for a customer. And then, I still ended up having to resolve it or arranged for it to be resolved myself. I was without air conditioning for about a month. The contractor that they arranged to come and fix my air conditioning was not confident at all - ineffective. He was not professional and did not take the issue like it was important.

About a week before I made the call, I was traveling. I came home in between flights and the water softener was making noises and it showed an error on the LED screen. I turned it off and bypassed it because I was in between a couple of business trips so I didn’t have any time to do anything about it. I came back, turned it on and it seemed fine for about a day. And then it started making noise again, and that’s when I called American Home Shield. It was relatively fast and pretty easy. There was a little bit of confusion though of when I had to pay the co-pay to the contractor. But other than that, it wasn’t too bad. The contractor came on time, did the job pretty quick, did not leave a mess and were just great. I’m very happy.

Tech told me the pressure regulator was electrical problem not covered by AHS. But, pressure regulator is covered. Tech told me he would fix my problem with regulator for 125 dollars but he told AHS that there was no problem with regulator. I made two appointments for tech to fix the problem for 125 dollars but never showed. I bought a pressure regulator for 22 dollars and installed it in a half hour, unscrew 5 screws retaining 5 wires and unscrew nipple the total amount of work. I BELIEVE AHS does not have good techs and techs use calls to pick up business at outrageous charges.

We discovered water covering our kitchen floor and we determined this is a hot water leak. So we turned off our hot water at our water heater and notified American Home Shield. Within a couple of days, a plumber showed up and determined that it was a slab leak in our kitchen behind the stove that he was not able to work on. So within a day or so, or a couple of days, another plumber showed up with the tools to break the floor to access the leak and he repaired it at that time. Then afterwards we had another company come out to patch the hole in the wall that was created when they were trying to access the leak. So it required breaking open our wall and the floor as well. The wall was patched up and we re-tiled our floor afterwards to repair that part of it.

During the entire process, American Home Shield was right there with it. They were responsive and professional. The plumbers weren’t quite as responsive as Home Shield was, but that wasn’t their fault.

I call the AHS and they sent a contract to my house and only check a few minutes and did not find the problem but asked me to pay $100. I called AHS again and asked them to send another technician to check it. After a week's call, they finally sent another person from other contractor. The second person found problem and told me don't turn on the furnace. Because the fume will go into my house and kill us. The second day I called AHS, they said they rejected the second company's report and will send the first contractor to house again. I waited and kept calling the first contractor, they finally came back again.

This time I pointed out the big hole in the furnace and the technician took the picture and told me will send to AHS. And promised me to call me back in two days. I waited another two days but did not hear anything neither contractor or AHS. SO I called AHS again today. They said they will email the contractor and call me back. I know they will never call me back. It has been more than two weeks, the problem still there and the temperature will drop to under 40 tonight. I am very tired to fight for this and will buy one on my own. That is a result the AHS want to see it, I guess.

We’ve had fairly good experience with American Home Shield. We filed a claim for airconditioning when we first started with them. That was our very first claim and that was years ago. The recent one was with our stove. What happened was it was a 1991 Jenn-Air and the blower or the air flow vent was not functioning properly. That wasn’t a good claim because it took months going back and forth to finally figure out that they weren’t going to be able to replace that piece that was broken, and they couldn’t find it anywhere. They even had hired somebody to come out and try to make it work, rig it in there, and we were like “No, you’re not doing that”. So we ended up getting our stove top replaced but it did take quite a while.

What they generally do in this area is contract with Sears, and Sears really hasn’t worked well with us. We’re working with a company in Brownsburg, a more local company to where we live. And it was calling American Home Shield and having the people come out. They came out, didn’t fix it, "We’re gonna look for a piece that would work". Said they ordered it, didn’t hear from them for 3 or 4 weeks, called them back, “We didn’t get permission from American Home Shield to do that”, called American Home Shield, American Home Shield called them again, and then they reordered the piece. So then they came out, it didn’t work still so the guy was gonna try to make it work and we said “No, we don’t want you to force that into the metal there”, and so they took it away and then we didn’t hear from anybody for about a month again, so I got back in contact with American Shield and finally they did concede that it wasn’t gonna be able to be fixed so they replaced the stove top.

Since the repair, the stove has been fine. We’ve had other repairs with American Home Shield and that’s describing the worst that we’ve had. And when we were working with Sears, we simply never got anything done. Most of the people that came out were unable to fix anything. So it was a bad service contract; it was because it was the same gentleman that came out here every time and he was ancient and he didn’t know what he was doing. So that’s why we changed. We have a claim in right now to fix our dryer and the guy's coming out today. Overall, though, our experience with American Home Shield was positive.

And I said, "Well, I'm not surprised." He had one in his truck and went and brought it in and installed it and cleaned up everything beautifully. He was really efficient and knowledgeable. It was a great experience.

Aside from the garbage disposal, we also had the water filter of the refrigerator go out and we needed that replaced. I submitted a claim online because my air conditioner was low on Freon. I submitted the ticket and they assigned it to somebody that scheduled me for a week or two out and they wanted to charge me about five times the amount of Freon that is five times the price. So then I called AHS and had them assign it to the person who had come out last because they were the most helpful and they did great service. Guy came out the next day and fixed it. Had no problems with him. I gave him 10s all the way, all the way down on the review. And all is good now, my air conditioner was fairly new and it’s back as it was – it’s cold.

I like AHS that is why I’ve kept them. Great service, usually prompt. Submitting a claim was very simple... but I’d like some more tracking like where the ticket is. Like I said, they tried to schedule me a week or two out. I understand that has to do with the contractor’s own time. I know that has nothing to do with American Home Shield, but I felt like there was somewhere in the process, in going to the website, that all you can do is assign or cancel. So there needs to be something in the middle, like waiting for a callback from service tech. Furthermore, I don’t know whether the problem with the original contractor was a Home Shield issue or the contractor, but AHS need to check. Have a negotiated price or something.

Our refrigerator freezer started getting hot. They sent a company out. The man came out, took the control board out of it and commenced to solder something on the back of it, which didn't seem right to me, but he said this will do the repair. And he puts it back and within three days or so, we had the very same problem. The man came back. They don't charge you the deductible the second time and he replaced the card. Under a week later, we had the very same problem.

The man was very rude, really curt while he was in my home so I told AHS I don't want that company back here. So AHS made the appointment for GE to come out... a week later. But since I had no refrigerator or freezer (it was 20 in the freezer, which just won't freeze food) at that point, I called them back and said that won't work. I can't wait eight days. I then gave them the name of another company that worked on my dishwasher, I'd like them back. They contacted this other company that was there in two hours. They came and changed everything out. However about three days later GE shows up at my door. American Home Shield forgot to cancel the appointment they had made with GE (Now AHS said since they didn't cancel it properly, they would pay for his visit.) Anyway, because the GE technician already came out and was here, I said "While you're here, I'd like to have you confirm, since you're the manufacturer, that it's repaired properly." He came in, went through everything, and said everything was fine.

So I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Their personnel work very well and were very friendly. They have quick response and they are professional. They did everything that can be done. And since then, we’ve had no problem. The temperature seems to vary more than it ever did before (I'll go in and it has a display in the refrigerator when you open it and one time it will be -5° in the freezer, and then the next time you go in, it will be 0° and after we keep it set to a 0°) but it stays cold enough that everything is fine.

The one thing that always bothered me about it is that I cannot do the file online underneath my own personal account. I have to file the claim outside of my account which doesn't make sense to me whatsoever. It just seems to me that it would be a lot more beneficial if a person logs into his account, there's information in there already that could populate a same deal and then you just go on from there, but that's not possible.

But once they start the process it goes real easy. I don't have any problems with it. I know what type of information they're going to ask and that would be another benefit too. I've had to file a couple of claims so I know what's going to be asked and I get that information in advance. But for somebody doing it the first time, there's nothing in the process when you first start filing the claim that say before you start filing this, get the following information like the serial number, model number, all that type of stuff that's needed for the actual claim itself.

But aside from that, everything went perfectly. The contractor that came was knowledgeable, very clean, efficient, took care of the problem, showed me what he did and took the bad parts with him and it was done very quick and easy. Since the repair, the dryer has been working perfect. I like having the insurance. It makes life easier and things like that do happen. I'm not faced with a huge repair bill other than the visit bill.

Over the last 4 years, I've had some major claims with AHS - no issues, no problems. They did what they said they would do. All were fixed on a very timely manner. They replaced a couple of air conditioners over the last four years. They replaced a part for a stove and a part for a refrigerator. But my recent claim with them was a garbage disposal that was jammed up. I saw the casing was leaking so I called them. They responded right away and it was the next day or the day after the guy showed up. He was in and out of my house in 45 minutes.

Great customer service and they're prompt with filing a claim and getting a representative to our house to work on whatever problem we have. Recently we had a problem with our garbage disposal. It started probably about a week or two before we filed the claim. We're looking into it because it was starting to make a noise. About a couple of days later it finally went out completely which then prompted us to go to American Home Shield and get it looked at and replaced. My wife called in and submit the claim over the phone. I wasn't on the phone myself but from what my wife told me, the representative was very friendly. She didn't have any problems with setting up the claim. She was very fast and courteous. The contractor also did a good job and we have not had any problems with our garbage disposal whatsoever since he came out and repaired it. It's been working wonderful.

10/21, we contact our home warranty, American Home Shield, to send out a plumber. They schedule one to come between 2-4 on 10-22. I schedule a 1/2 day to meet them. 10/22, plumber shows up at 6:30 and asks if he can come back the next day with leak detection equipment. 10/23, plumber shows up with no leak detection equipment. He checks the valves behind the shower. He then proceeds to break a hole in the stucco outside the house to check and see if it is wet. He calls another plumber that tells me the leak must be in the slab and they have to check with AHS to see if they will pay for the isolation test to find the leak. He tells me I can call them as well and that they would be calling that evening. I call AHS and they tell me they will have to wait for a report from the plumber and that it is not my responsibility.

10/24, I call plumber to ask if they got a hold of AHS. They said they did and were waiting for a response. I contact AHS and they said the plumber never filed a report. 10/26, I contact AHS again and they said they would leave a message with plumber. 10/27, I leave a message with plumber about when they might be getting back to us. I have an engineer come out and looks over the area and he confirms the plumbing issue but says the slab is presently okay. 10/29, I contact AHS again and they said the plumber should have never knocked a hole in my exterior wall and that they would contact Alamo Plumbing and that I would receive a call today no matter what. As of 5:51 pm no call. I called AHS again and they contact the plumber. Plumber says they have been trying to get a hold of me (false) and have been unable to. They now say they can schedule me in for 11/3 at 9:00 am for a leak detection test.

Soon after we purchased our home our hot water heater started leaking and was replaced by AHS in October of 2010 by one of their contractors - Waldorf Water & Gas. The contractor told me that due to changes in code I would have to pay $460 (should have just been $60) to get the water heater replaced and inspected with the new code. As I was new I paid the amount and never questioned in. Ripped off $400. After a year it occurred to me that an inspector had never contacted me so I called AHS who then sent another company out to reexamine the work and schedule an inspection (apparently the original company went bankrupt). As the initial job would not pass inspection the hot water heater was reinstalled and inspected. This week (October 2014) the hot water heater started leaking. AHS sent out a company who inspected the hot water heater and said that it was leaking internally and that they would not work on it because it was still covered by the Manufacturer's warranty. I called AHS numerous times speaking with several different customer service reps who all agreed that they would not cover the hot water heater because it was still under manufacturer's warranty.

They would not transfer me to a supervisor and said someone would call me back. Supervisor finally called me back and said they would not cover the hot water heater. Amazing since AHS is the company that put the hot water heater in my house. I have now paid $791 in labor to have the hot water heater replaced (the warranty only covered the hot water heater - not the labor to remove the old one and install the new one). I am writing this as I sit on hold (it has been 15 minutes) trying to cancel my AHS account. On a side note - company that put the hot water heater in today said that the work done by the previous contractor was pretty shoddy - after seeing what a great job looks like I would agree. That is my other biggest complaint about AHS - they don't have good companies working for them. While getting my Microwave fixed I asked the technician how much it would have cost me if I didn't have the warranty and he told me he charged based upon how much he felt a customer could afford - couldn't believe someone would say that to a customer. If they ever answer the phone I will be thrilled to be rid of them.

So far I'm waiting on almost month to get my dryer fixed. Made a call for service, had to wait a week until someone showed up. Then they needed to order parts and in 7 to 10 days they may be in. They showed up in a week and the tech tried to fix the machine. This didn't work and we were offed a 50% buyout on the dryer or they can try again. Now more parts are on order and maybe in a week to ten days we might have a working dryer. I have to go out and buy a new dryer because we can't continue to run to the laundromat every other day to do laundry. Getting someone on the phone is almost Byzantine, apparently there are no Supervisors around, and as long as the tech says the dryer can be fixed, they will continue sending someone out. I'm getting a bad feeling about this company and seeing that there are 20% negative comments (2 stars or less aka Dissatisfied and Angry), I'm regretting not looking into them more before plunking down my hard earned cash on this deal.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield has been the best this year. I think it was my dryer that was messing up, so they fixed that real quick. It was a Sears product, so they had someone from Sears close by to do that. Now it is working good.

On the other ones, they took their time and they didn’t really have anybody that was close by that can repair problems that we had. One of them was with our air conditioning. We submitted the claim, and I thought they were supposed to call us back within the next 24 hours, but every time we called they said they didn’t have anybody in the area. It was in the middle of summertime and we actually had to wait ten days before it got repaired when they actually found somebody. We live in a small town in Texas and there are stuff not available to us. It may have to come from a bigger town and that really takes time. But my experience with the company is overall fair.

He gave me a lot of information that I didn’t know, little issues that could cause problems, and helped me out for preventative maintenance. It got repaired but a couple of days later, something still wasn’t right; it had a leak. And when I called them back out, they discovered a whole mechanism in the little door on the bottom had to be replaced, so they ordered the part. They got it back quicker than expected, so it was repaired earlier than I anticipated. Now it’s just as well as like new. And I wasn’t inconvenienced as much as I thought I was gonna be. That was a good thing.

He came out and stated there was no leak and left. A week later, the leak began again. AHS told me I would not be charged another service fee. I was. I was told they would reimburse me. I have never seen it. Said plumber shows up and in a matter of SECONDS locates a quarter sized hole in my pipe the first plumber failed to see. They repair said pipe. Now here it is October and the pipe is leaking AGAIN! I called AHS. They sent another plumber out. I am WITH the plumber when he calls in and he states "the pipe is cracked and I do not know what caused the defect."

AHS calls me minutes later and states, "the plumber stated it was cracked due to a frozen pipe. This is not covered by your policy." The plumber said "I never said that!" No fix. AHS then calls and tells me they will send another plumber out for FREE for a second opinion. FOUR days later, they call me and state they don't have another company working for them. Sorry, we can't fix your plumbing. FOUR days with NO kitchen sink! Money upon money spent in service calls and my pipe STILL is not fixed. NO ONE will talk to me at AHS or help!

Carbon monoxide leak in the furnace in the attic -- something cracked or something within the furnace, so the gas company came out and they had to shut off the gas in the attic. I called American Home Shield and submitted the claim. I also asked them to look at the air conditioner when they came out because it wasn't cooling down as much as it normally did. The claim went through fine. They assigned it to someone who came out and looked at the problem. They were saying that it's not covered under the policy, so that was a problem for me.

I called them and they said what they could do is they would have another company come out and get an opinion of what's going on with the property. That's what they're doing at this point. But in the meantime, the air conditioner ran out completely. It started making loud noise and it actually went out. So I'm still waiting on them to call me back regarding the second opinion. I haven't heard back from them yet. I did receive letters from the first opinion stating that the furnace and the air conditioner wasn't to the right tonnage or whatever specs and it wasn't covered. I owned the house since it was brand new, and that was what the builder put in, so in order to pass the state inspection, they had to have the right equipment in there; I would assume that an inspector wouldn’t pass something that wasn’t correct. I've been paying on the policy for 20 years and it was disappointing to hear that now when I finally need it, they said that it wasn't covered.

I have American Home Shield on both of my properties and I have had them come out for difficult reasons and it's always been satisfactory. They came out and fixed the problem or they helped me with whatever the issue was, so I've never had a problem with it. I always felt secured in paying it. I have recommended them to some family and friends. But now I'm angry that they felt that way. This experience could change my mind but all the other experiences I've had with them have been really good. This is the only bad one that I've had so far.

I recommended AHS to several friends. I recommend it to people who don't have a home warranty. AHS is reputable and I feel secure knowing that they're reputable.

We've never had a problem with anyone that they've recommended. And when our previous dishwasher was not able to be repaired, they reimbursed us and we purchased a new one. I had a leak in my rental property. They sent a plumber that looked around for 5 minutes and said I needed to silicone the bathtub and left and that he doesn't do that. I hired an outside company and siliconed the tub. That was not the issue. The leak was still there. I called them to come back. They kept me waiting almost a month and sent me the same plumber that said I have to remove the kitchen cabinets and break the wall to find the leak. They won't do it and won't pay for the removal or reinstalling and fixing any damage. I basically have to destroy my kitchen for them to come look at it.

I don't trust AHS or the plumber they use. I told them I wanted to cancel my service, they said I can't. Even though their contract says I can cancel anytime. I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER FOR OVER 8 YEARS for 2 PROPERTIES. This is how they treat a loyal customer. When I finally need their service they give me the runaround. I will never recommend AHS to anyone. I will also file a complaint with the BBB. This company uses the worst contractors and their customer service is atrocious. I waited 45 days and they did not resolve anything, and will not let me cancel my contract. The plumbing company they sent was J and C Plumbing from Bergenfield, NJ. I asked for a different plumber and they sent me the same company and the same plumber. They said that was the only plumber they have in NJ.

I made a claim for somebody to come out to fix my electricity. They came out on more than one occasion, usually at night. They couldn't find the problem initially. Then the second company did come out. They found the problem but they jury-rigged it. They indicated on the receipt that I might need a rewire and I never even saw that on a receipt. They didn't tell me it might need a rewire. I need an electrician out here before I had a short and the house burned down. So I wound up getting another, at my own expense. They said I could file a claim but I was so annoyed with them, I just said "I don't want you to do this anymore for me." So my bill was paid on time.

So my complaint with them is I had to get Weeks Electricity to do the job for me. And I don't have my paperwork right now. I brought Weeks out and it cost me over $850 out of my pocket to fix it. And they could have done that for me, had it been brought to my attention. I also had a claim with my air conditioning in my house in New Mexico and it was done by HVAC rep. I went round and round for weeks before an American Home Shield representative turn it over to corporate. Once they turned it over to corporate, I got a response and the people went out there and fixed the job the right away. But it took me weeks and I can’t remember how many calls. I’m not real hopeful that they’ll do anything about it; they said they would but I’m out of contract with them now, although this took place during the contract period in my house here in Houston.

I had to turn the water off the whole house. When I spoke to AHS customer service I was told there were only 2 plumbers in Broward County that worked with AHS, and they would try to get someone from a 50-mile radius. I have since spoken to at least 8 people at AHS and still no service. It is now Sunday afternoon and I am still without water. Not only have they been unable to provide service they canceled the company who was originally coming to repair my problem. I have now been told that the original company might be able to squeeze me in on Monday. Our recent claim was for the air conditioner. Submitting this claim was okay but I had problems thereafter. Iceman, the company that was sent out, replaced a coil and got the unit working. But approximately 6 days later, the unit stopped working and that same company went out again. The technician who went out, diagnosed the problem as neglect. So American Home Shield wouldn't cover the expenses to repair it because they said it was caused by neglect. That's what's puzzling me. How can it happen? Someone went out there and got it working. How can it stop because of neglect? As a result, what I needed was a new unit...

Talking to an additional company that went out, because I asked for a second ruling, the second company also said neglect which made sense. But he also told me that the company who made the unit, went out of business 30 years ago. So that unit had to be at least 30 years old and it was a freon-based unit which they don't use anymore, so what freon they can get is very expensive...

In the end I had to pay for a new unit. I got another company independent of American Home Shield who went out and did it in one day. They replaced the unit, put a whole new unit in and got rid of the old. The old unit was gonna go shortly anyway. But, once again when Iceman repaired it, replaced a coil or something of that nature, and then 6 days later it stops working, same guy goes out, it just blows my mind. It’s very confusing. So my problem now is that I really feel as though American Home Shield should be paying for this. That's what I pay them for. And I don't send repair people out, they do. They select them, they send them out, and this is what I wind up for. So it's kind of disappointing to put up with this pile.

I had a compressor put on my air conditioner, and the compressor went out within 30 days. We were having a problem with who was supposed to rectify the situation. This issue went on for 24 days without me having an air conditioner in my house, and I told them I had a health condition and I have three young kids: about 1, 2 and 5. At that time, it was 107 degrees outside so it was worse inside my house. I've been with AHS for a while and I've never been late on my payment. I've always been a good customer. I was shocked at the way it was handled.

Everybody would say something about American Home Shield, and I was the one sticking up for them. But now I understand what they're saying. I don't want to be like that because I like having that extra faith in my mind if something happens. But I just couldn't believe it when they told me to go out and purchase portable air conditioner. And I purchased them. Then they told me it wasn't written down that they told me to purchase the air conditioner. I told them that "If it wasn't written down, how would I know the number for reimbursement? How would I know this information if somebody didn't give it to me from American Home Shield? How would I know the address?" One lady told me that they'll reimburse me $100 and I said okay.

My biggest issue was that I had to wait 24 days to get a working air conditioner. I have a 2,800 square feet house. It's a two-story, so it was hot. Everybody was sick, and they said they would try and get the part. I even volunteered to go pick up the part for them because it was unbearable in the house, and my husband went out and purchased the portable air conditioners. I said "Honey, you should have went on and just bought a new air conditioner." So now I got three portable air conditioners in my house, probably totaled at $1,500 in my household so that the house could be livable during that time that we didn't have air.

I felt like no one cared. Because there's no way in the world you want to come out, sit up in a house with 100 degrees outside and no air condition for 24 days. I felt that they didn’t do what they had said in print. But before this experience, I had a great, great experience. But this last experience did me in.

I recently decided to try AHS as my previous Home Warranty company was a disappointment. My contract date took effect almost three weeks after I signed up. Two days into my contract, the motor on my blower for the furnace system started making a whistling noise. A tech came out and told me it was about to go out and would need to be replaced. He stated it was wear and tear. He needed to take the blower to the shop to have the motor pulled off and new one installed with a capacitator.

Upon his return the following day, AHS informed me that this would not be covered by my contract because it may have been deteriorating prior to the start of my contract. In theory, this is true for all HVAC systems and appliances as they age. I was told that a mechanical test could have detected that it was going out prior to my contract start date and I would be denied under section A.2.d. I pointed out that my contract states specifically that such items are covered under A.2.d. "Undetectable pre-existing conditions which are defects or mechanical failures that could not have been detected by a visual inspection and/or simple mechanical test. A simple mechanical test is defined as turning the item on and off to ensure that it is operational. While turned on, the item should operate without causing damage, irregular sounds, smoke, or other abnormal outcomes."

My AC unit and the blower were working after my contract began. Using the definition of "simple mechanical test", the part passed. Yes, being "on" may have caused damage to the motor. However, a part that endures wear and tear will be damaged over time. I was told a second tech could be sent out to my house for another opinion. If the opinion was different, AHS would replace the part and not charge me for the 2nd tech's visit. Why would a second tech not have the same opinion that the part could have been failing for several days? My tech was charging a couple hundred dollars to AHS to fix the part. Instead, I had to pay double the price because AHS did not want to hold its end of the agreement.

I am very disappointed in this Company and Home Warranty companies in general. Negative stars would be given if possible.

We had an air conditioner serviced 2 months ago with American Home Shield. It probably broke down on a Thursday and we called the claim in and it was Monday. Submitting a claim was very easy. We called and they gave us a number and they had the service company call us. They called and set up an appointment when they could get to us. So we went a couple days without air conditioning, but that’s part of it when you have that service with American Home Shield. They don't do weekends. But they came and fixed it and the guy was courteous, and came when he said he'd come and that’s all you can expect.

We've had American Home Shield in several homes. We've had it for probably 15 or 20 years. We think it's good value for what you get and you know it's good insurance. We recommended it to our neighbor there in Houston and they have it now I believe. Overall, the service has been good and we have a brand new home we just built that we've moved into. But we may see about getting American Home Shield here before it’s over with.

One issue that I had is about my membership fee. I know that if I paid the year in advance, I'd get $25 off. I did that but I kept getting the bill for $25. So I called my rep and she handled it. The customer service people were very nice and worked hard on finding a contractor. Long story short we had to wait several days before the contractor could come out. However I came home during the repair and was very impressed with the level of service, the technician not only repaired the shorted out wire and replaced the capacitor, he took the time to clean out the condenser. He checked the Freon level and installed a couple of pounds. He then came inside and checked the temperature coming out of the vents and stayed while the system cycled. I was very impressed my wife was happy because he put on his bootees every time he entered the house and cleaned up his mess every time and before leaving.

My interaction with them was good and I had no issues. The contractors that they send out were pretty good. One guy was pretty busy and it's the type of thing where they don't seem to have a lot of contractors and therefore they have to find people to come out and do it and that could take a little while but it's not too unreasonable. AHS seems to be a quality company. It's nice that they are still around after a couple of years and that it seems that they are trying to improve. They've gotten a lot better than they were in the past.

Last night, I concluded a very disappointing phone call with a very unhelpful associate from American Home Shield named Tiffany. I decided to cancel my warranty because I have taxes due on three properties come December 1st, and really need every bit of cash.

I requested cancellation via email three days prior to billing (10/21/14), and received a response, via email from a live associate of AHS named Shantevies stating I would be contacted. If my card info had been removed right then and there, I would not have been billed the afternoon/evening of 10/23/14. Strike 1 where an employee failed to do their job. I then received a voice mail earlier in the day on 10/23/14 while I was at work, from the retention department, who also failed to remove my payment information. Strike 2, second employee did not due the simple task of removing my payment info. Consequently, the transaction of $52.30 on my Visa card was withdrawn the afternoon/evening of 10/23.

Upon seeing this transaction, I contacted American Home Shield and spoke to a representative named Tiffany. I asked a number of things from this rep, who failed to do any of them:

    1. Cancel my account/provide a refund (could not/would not issue a refund)
    2. Provide an email address for the CEO/Corporate office (only had a mailing address, even though the whole global/transnational society does email)
    3. Find me a supervisor that could take my call (apparently this call center did not have a supervisor on shift)

    4. Transfer me to the retention department.

Strike 3, 3rd employee did not assist. When I saw the call was going downhill, I recorded it via my laptop, and advised Tiffany that it will be released to the national/social media to ensure no other customers get taken by this company. I also emailed the VP of Communications for ServiceMaster Peter **, but he only forwarded my email to customer service. 4 separate employees passed the buck in this case, apparently to keep my account from being cancelled, it appears this is the practice of AHS to force customers to stay.

I fully expect that Tiffany and Shantevies and the rep who called today will have their employment terminated, as this refund could have been handled at any juncture in between. I do not appreciate any kind of elongation or attempt to keep from issuing a genuine cancellation request. I will be creating a blog about AHS today, where I will post the audio of the conversation. I will also keep looking for Mark **, the CEO's email address.

Usually when you call the general line and get the general folks, they’re not quite as helpful. They don’t necessarily go the extra mile, or they don’t have as much authority to do anything. But I’ve had mostly very, very good experience with American Home Shield. There used to be Beau and she used to be in the corporate office (She’s no longer there. It’s Susan who is there now and has helped me the last time.) When I would call Beau, she would immediately take care of everything for me and her follow-up was amazing. I was actually really sorry to hear that she left recently.

Overall my experience is certainly good enough. But I’ve gone through like a rush of problems there for a while.

My recent claim was for my dishwasher that apparently just stopped working. It seems like a repeat of the problem that I had had several months prior so I was a little frustrated with that. It was doing the same thing. It was leaving water in the bottom, which was stinky, and the electrical panel wasn’t functioning properly / going through all the cycles appropriately. So I placed the claim online. It was in the evening when I come home from work. The next day I got in and they had it assigned but the contractor couldn’t come out for 4 or 5 days. So I called back and I said, “Well, I’ve used Apple Appliance before and I already called them. They can come out today. Is there anyway I can use Apple Appliance?” And they said no. “I thought you allowed Apple Appliance to come out to my home before?” But they wouldn’t.

The guy that I talked to wasn't as helpful and he didn’t really explain why they couldn’t and I don’t know if Apple Appliance wasn’t any longer on their list. He didn’t take the time to explain it. When I called back, Susan then took the time to fully explain why we couldn’t go with Apple, that there really didn’t appear to be anybody who'd come any sooner.

As it was, we just waited until the people could come in 4 or 5 days. It took longer for the repair to happen but they were able to fix it and the dishwasher seems to be working now. So I’m still very satisfied and definitely refer American Home Shield to other people and brag about it. I love them. I’ve had them now for probably about 8 years. I would absolutely continue it and plan on doing so. I definitely appreciate, being a single mom and having the comfort of knowing that at best it's $75 that way.

I am starting to wonder if this company is one massive scam. Three times American Home Shield has weaseled out of repairing the items that are under their warranty. The first time our garbage disposal wasn't working and they sent a service man. He went straight to the sink, sketchily pulled out a beer bottle cap (neither my husband nor I ever drink beer), and said "you burned the garbage disposal by putting a bottle cap in there". He quoted a large amount to replace the unit. Luckily we didn't agree to that. A few days later we discovered the reset switch was off, we flipped the switch and our garbage disposal is still working fine.

The next time the air conditioner was not working due to a fuse that had burned up. The service man noticed a small plastic pot on the side of the unit and said that the overheating was a result of storing a pot by the unit and refused to cover it. It was so hot we relented. This time our refrigerator was not working and we called them. The repair man said "Evaporator coils clogged and compressor seized due to lack of air flow, Overheated." The insurance would not cover to repair it saying "we had not maintained it" because we failed to open the back of the refrigerator, remove the cover and clean the coils inside.

Their pattern is they fix small things which are less than the deductible of $75, but when they have to pocket something for a bigger repair they come up with some questionable excuse not to repair it. I am very disappointed with the service I have got from American Home Shield lately.

A second opinion can confirm a diagnosis so that the customer will have a chance to get two different contractors out to diagnose. If the second contractor determines the first contractor misdiagnosed, then we go with the second contractor's diagnosis. Since we are not technicians we rely on their expertise of what failed and why, but never feel that you cannot challenge what they report. I have multiple houses and multiple policies with A.H.S. In many calls the repairman does not show up for days. If you have no hot water, OR Heat, you're just plain out of luck until their repairman. Keeps you last on his list. You pay $100 or more for repair but most repairs are about that. Forget about getting new equipment. They make it very hard to qualify. I have paid this company $700 a year for 13 years and when I put a claim in the guy shows up couple days or more - has to get authorization. Takes week. So you're out of a needed appliance for two weeks when local guy fixes it in 24 hours. Purchased policy for an apartment building. Hot water heater blows. Repairman NEVER shows in 4 days. Tenants angry. Had it fixed locally. Water heater ruptured. And they refuse to pay. Malus send you denial of claim With no telephone number to grieve. Get switched around to different departments, no response from email. I have paid them maybe $15,000 in premiums for three properties plus $1400 repair out of pocket service charges and they deny a Bonafide repair. Take money and put away for breakage instead.

I live in South Louisiana so it's just very hot. But other than that, every problem that I've had, I'm very thankful and have been happy with American Home Shield. The service people that they have sent out have been good. I recommend AHS to friends.

Our air conditioning was leaking. I made a claim and it was very simple. I called them up and requested a service and they sent me an email confirming that I requested a service call and it had the name of the contractor on it. Then the next morning I called the contractor myself. He was fine and on time. He then saw the problem and told me what he was going to do. He told me that if it happens again, to just give him a call. He took care of it and left. The air conditioner is working fine after the repair. He showed me how to clean it. There was something blocked and he showed me what to do so that it wouldn't be an issue in the future.

I did my claim over the phone and it was pretty simple. It takes a while to get someone to come out though. That's the only downside. They don't seem to have a lot of vendors. It took about a whole week. I wasn't pleased with the contractors. They came out and they rigged it up and said that a part would be needed. We had to call back and they had to come and fix the refrigerator twice as well as the as the washer and the washer was still never fixed properly. When you do laundry, you would normally just put it on the right settings then let it go. You have to wash it. If you use the color settings where it's supposed to be cold water, hot water comes out and if you use the setting to which it should be hot water, cold water comes out. I'm considering switching to someone else because I'm really not satisfied with the service. They don't keep in contact with you. It was tedious.

Had issue with unit, they sent out a tech. He misdiagnosed the problem and only after I asked a few questions found the evaporator coil to be faulty. Three trips later he replaced. Still not cool. AHS said we would be reimbursed $X if we affected the repair ourselves. We did and when asked for the reimbursement, they said they don't pay out like that. Bottom line is my wife suffered in the AZ heat with her MS for two weeks due to AHS not performing their jobs as per their contract with us. While she had a relapse, we were left to pay out of pocket for a new unit ($7K). My wife's health would have been better served had we not had coverage and simply had the repair done ourselves. AHS was a negative from every standpoint I can see or imagine. All we got for our money was a tech who couldn't fix the problem and lies from the company saying they would pay for repairs then saying they never do anything like that.

The only straight answer we have gotten to date is, "we will look into that". To what end? Oh and unreturned phone calls and emails - so that's something else we got for our money. They knew my wife's health was at stake and still they did nothing except to tell me they would pay a cash out price if we went out of pocket to repair the unit. Which, considering my wife's health, we did. Then they come back with, "we never do that". So they had us pay for the repair for them?!? Interesting move AHS. Your shareholders would be proud; this customer is not pleased however.

So they cleaned it out, switched out a part that was broken, and my air conditioner runs perfect. As a matter of fact, my electric bills dropped considerably after changing that part. So I'm pretty happy. The American Home Shield representatives were very courteous. It being a weekend, they did the very best that they could. I put the call in on Friday and they were supposed to come out on Saturday, but I canceled it because the air was working again. And then it froze over the weekend and stopped so I called back on Saturday. The gentleman came out, his name is Ed and he's very professional. He told me what was wrong, he cleaned it out and told me how to prevent any future dog hair from getting into the air conditioner. He came in and looked to see what filter I used; he was very thorough. He had gone above and beyond and he was quite knowledgeable in saving me an expense later in the future. Most air conditioning companies don't do that.

It was a problem with the thermostat in the oven, not anything major. AHS was wonderful, they came right away and they fixed it, and it's been fine ever since. I was thrilled with it because the fee has gone up by $5, but it's still well worth the money for the whole year for all the appliances. In three years that I've had it on this house, I've used it twice before for the air conditioning. To pay just that minimal fee and have everything fixed - and they were here right away and the people that they contact are absolutely wonderful - has just been a great experience.

AHS sends very reliable people. They know what they're doing, it's not any of these fly-by-nighters. I'm very comfortable with them, they clean up after themselves. It's just been a very pleasant experience, all three times I've used them. I tell my friends it's very important to have them because you never know when you're gonna have a problem. To pay this minimal amount, it's like $2 per day, for the whole year and for all these appliances - it's definitely worth it.

They set up a meeting very quickly with Sears because I have a Sears product. Within two days, the Sears man was out, but I have a microwave-oven combo, and to fix the microwave, he had to pull it out. He had to pull the oven out, so he had to bring an apparatus and set it up in front of my oven and pulled the whole thing out. I was a nervous wreck, but he did fine and got it out. He replaced the part, pushed everything back in. But he left with flipped breaker and the oven door wasn't shutting, so the light was on the whole time. I called right away because I wanted to catch him, but wasn't able to get a hold of him. American Home Shield gave an okay to send somebody back out, which happened very fast, but I had to wait for another technician, and it was a couple of days. AHS did fine. It was not their fault. I recently had a big leak coming through my ceiling from the second floor, and the water was running down the walls. I wasn't sure where it was coming from, but assumed it was a broken or leaking pipe under the floor since I could not locate it. I called American Home Shield first, but they could not get anyone to me until the next day. They also stated there were no guarantees of repair and they could not do anything if the problem was inside of my walls. I had to pay a local plumber over $500.00 to get it resolved that day, because the alternative would have been a ruined upstairs floor & ceiling. Because of this, I was reluctant to continue my membership. I waited to pay the bill because I wanted to discuss it with my wife first. As a result, I got busy, forgot about it, and received a collection letter in the mail. Even though it was my fault, I of course, didn't care for the tone of the letter.

On Oct. 2nd, I called the number on the letter to express my discontent, pay my bill, and cancel my account. I was able to do two of three, but was told I had to speak to the Retention Department to cancel. I waited on hold for a while, and finally left a number for a return call. Apparently, someone finally called back two days later, but I was busy at work, didn't recognize the number, and didn't answer. Today, I received another letter, dated Oct 14th asking for a 3 month payment, even though I had already made the payment earlier this month. The lady explained that only the current payment was due, even though I asked for my account to be canceled. She connected me to the Retention Department again, where you guessed it, I waited on hold for 46 minutes before finally hanging up. We live in a day and age where service is key -- I work 70 hours a week and my time is valuable. I am no longer interested in your services and would just like to cancel my account. It is impossible to communicate with AHS over the phone. There is only a number to a call center that can only take notes and that consistently always gets things wrong and does not follow up as agreed. In my case an AHS contractor did an incorrect and dangerous installation of a ceiling fan that was falling off the ceiling putting my family in danger. I called AHS to send another company that would confirm the danger and the incorrect installation and correct it. It was agreed with AHS that I would not pay another copay as the problem was created by AHS in the first place. Despite this agreement AHS keeps sending past due bills for an amount that was agreed I would not pay. Repeated calls to the hotline lead to nothing. They promise to follow up and then nothing happens.

Call center agents are incompetent. After explaining the full case they put you on hold and come back and say: "We confirmed you haven't paid yet." The entire call was about that we had an agreement that I would not pay for correcting the inappropriate and dangerous work an AHS contractor did. So the call center agent obviously does not understand the simple request in the first place. Repeatedly promised follow ups are not happening. It is not possible to escalate a case or to talk to AHS directly. I will cancel my service and can advise everyone not to contract AHS if you would want to spare yourself hours of frustration on the phone.

I have been a customer of AHS for over 10 years, but have had the need to use their services only a few times thus far.

Earlier this year (in June 2014), there was a blockage in the water pipeline leading to the shower. Though the contract lists the coverages to include 'Plumbing stoppages', the AHS representative stated that any 'repair work' related to the faucets are not covered. In order for the technician to check the water flow, the technician is required to remove (unscrew the shower head). I was told that it is not covered!!!

Other than using AHS, I regularly have the Air conditioning unit tuned twice a year (once for summer and once for winter). The most recent AC tune-up was done in early Oct 2014 through ARS. The technician who carried out the tune-up service documented the 'Air flow issues'. Earlier (in Sept. 2012), the service provider, Kozy services (through AHS), had replaced the 'Evaporator coil' in the AC unit, when they re-did the ducts. I don't believe it was inspected / certified by the city / town (I came to know about the need to have ANY AC repair work inspected / certified by the City of FM through the ARS technician).

Now (Oct 2014), the ducts for the airflow in the Air conditioning unit was giving way (a few connections opening up in addition to sagging). A technician from Kozy services (through AHS) visited my residence to inspect the AC unit, when I did mention the issue in question (related to / caused by the 'incomplete' previous work on the AC unit by the same service provider in Sept. 2012). Now, I am told by AHS representative that the duct work is not covered as it is not related to any mechanical failure!

As a common man (customer), I was under the impression that any work, as listed in the Contract is covered. However, it is not. I am very disappointed with AHS due my recent experiences. With too many catches, I don't believe it is worth their services (After having paid the annual contract fee and the service fee for the technician's visit each time). I am close to deciding to cancel my contract with AHS.

As I am writing this review, I have been placed on hold for over 30 minutes as I await to speak to an AHS CSR.

But once I called them back and told them about it, I've never seen them come back out for anything since then. The people they contract with were on time. And other than one occasion, they have been extremely professional with their work.

I have choices because I can either go on the Internet or like right now I'm at work, I do with my cell phone. I can call them from my cell phone and once I call them, it's pretty much handled. They call me back to make sure that the person came out on time and did what they had to do. Sometimes I get three phone calls from American Home Shield to make sure that the repairman did his job. They always want to know how he reacted, what was the interaction he had between us. With the price, that’s just the way I feel. That’s society these days. I'm not going to cancel them because of that. Overall, I am very satisfied. I've had them out for a number of things and never had a problem with those guys - Never. I have recommended them to co-workers that have homes and they have issues. I keep telling them, get a home warranty. Go to American Home Shield.

Overall, I have old appliances. The home warranty has proven its worth. I have had a garage door replaced, leaky shower valve (had to fix the drywall damage, but I was fine with that), washer clutch, dry fix, and new garbage disposal. I do not call for small issues (75 copay and that is not me) but my house is built in 76 with most appliances being 10yrs or older. Plumbing fixes and garage door has went well. My issue is small appliance fixes. AHS gets a great deal from Sears and sells their appliances. They turn you out in the name of discount and bottom lines.

I have a second dryer fix (9 month apart). The first I had to wait 6 weeks for three trips from Sears. The tech were great but the timeline was terrible. We have two kids and laundry piles up in a MN winter (outdoor drying not an option!). They come, diagnose, then parts and fix at later dates. I pressed them the first dryer fix but they did not have other vendors. They sent it to a plumber but after I called them they informed they do not fix dryers (wasted two days). The second dryer fix, I asked if they had added vendors and said three weeks (first available) was too long to wait to diagnose the issue. After a lot of advocating and many calls they approved an outside vendor.

I live in a city with over 100,000 people and 90 miles from a major metro. I called the four other vendors. One of them came and gave me an estimate (Bob's). D & T, Gary's, Mark ** all said they would not come out (names to say I'm not bsing). Bob's gave me an estimate but will not work with AHS. One vendor (not Bob's) told me they get nothing but headaches from home warranties (4 calls and 2 hrs of unbillable time). They call and disagree with labor rates, trip costs, use their own parts not allowing them to charge overhead to parts and take up phone time that they cannot bill for. I do not blame the small business owners.

Armed with a quote on letter head, license and bonding proof I called AHS three times. They refused to help me stating the vendor needs to call. Most reps told me their hands were tied. Waiting three weeks for Sears is the only option. I ask for supervisors, called sales and told them my contract was up for renewal. No help at all. They only escalate issue after 30 days. They rarely call back or follow their timelines. More hostility and apathy than anything, which was matched by myself. F for communication. F for call backs. F- for over policy regulated customer service that work against customers. B for Good value on old appliances. Great techs from Sears and other vendors. They lost me on appliances and customer satisfaction. I am going to try out another company.

I have not used my American Home Shield all year until my water boiler broke last month. They took their sweet time sending a plumber to my house (we had no water for over a day and I had to pay ROTO ROOTER to come to my home in an hour to make sure all plumbing was shut off). AHS assigned Plumber (BEAR), looks at it and says 'not covered', claimed it was not the 'boiler' but where the water is stored. So the big round/cylinder unit that is labeled 'water boiler' is not covered, even though my contract calls for water heaters to be covered, what the heck??? So the plumber has me and my family over a barrel because I have 2 small children and we need water. $3000 out of my pocket...

Then my ice maker in my freezer is not making ice, plumber comes out and says 'not covered'. AHS claims that since my fridge and freezer are not connected (1 inch apart), it's 2 separate units, they don't cover the freezer with ice unit. Then I alert them that I paid extra for additional refrigeration with ice maker to be covered. They still claim the freezer is not part of 'refrigeration' coverage. Well where the heck would an ice maker be but the freezer? Two calls this year and both times I felt like they absolutely rooked me. I'll pass on American Home SCAM next year.

Submitting claims with AHS has been very easy. I usually call, get somebody, tell them my problem, and it takes five minutes for them to gather information. So it's pretty flawless. The reps seemed to be very professional and pleasant. I've never had any problem whatsoever with any of the contractors. I have nothing but good things to say.
