I've only had to use American Home Shield a couple of times and they have been fantastic.
My disposal just stopped working. I was having trouble with it for quite a while, but I was able to reset it or use the handle of my broom to work it around and get it to pop and work, but the last time, it just wouldn't. It just hummed. So I called them. The representative I talked to was very nice and helpful. I was very well taken care of. He told me someone would call me back and arrange a date and time when it will be fixed. A few hours later, someone did call me back, and we agreed upon a date and time.
When the technician arrived, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. I could ask him any questions about what could have happened, could I have done anything to prevent it, and what have you. It seems the problem was that I hadn't used it enough because I was coming in and out. Now I'm here 100% of the time. But for the first two or three years that I had it, I wasn't always here, and when I did start using it, it just froze up. That was his opinion. The service that I got from the people that they sent was great.
I'm extremely happy with American Home Shield. They are responsive and very professional, and I would highly recommend them to my family. And if I could recommend them to my family, it's a good recommendation.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is extremely easy. There was a problem with my air conditioner. The representative that I spoke to was friendly and knowledgeable. The contractor was really good. I was very, very well pleased with the service because he got it back working. I've recommended them to three other people and they've gotten it.

The air conditioner quit cooling in the middle of the summer and we had a compositor went out on the air conditioning, so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. The process was easy; it always is. The representatives were always pleasant and quick. It took the contractor a few days to come out and we actually had to change vendors because all the air conditioning companies were busy. But he was good. Once he got there, he was professional, quick, handled it, and got it fixed. Since the repair, the air conditioner has been fine.
I haven't had any problems with American Home Shield. I've been happy with their work, and I would recommend them to friends. It's a good relationship; I'm not big on warranties or buying additional coverage, but I'll always have American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is better than my last experience with another company. My experience with them has been great.

On Wednesday morning, our tenants called to report water leaking from the ceiling in the kitchen. I contacted our home warranty company American Home Shield to have it repaired. AHS sent a dispatch to the local plumbing service Rite Away Services. The plumbing contractor called to say they could get to it on Friday which was in 3 days. I told them this was an emergency as we have to shut off the water for the leak to stop. They said call AHS and get work order changed to urgent. I called AHS to get the work order changed. The plumbing contractor arrived and cut a hole in the drywall where the leak was. He went to turn on the water and broke the main shut off valve, then claimed it was broken due to extreme force. He said he would need $495 to repair it before he could diagnose the leak. The tenants did not agree to pay that so the contractor left without cleaning anything up.
We had a plumber fix the valve and again called AHS to get the leak fixed. They put in the work order for Rite Away service again. Rite away again scheduled to come out Friday between 11-3, and we again said that we needed immediate service. I called AHS again and they said they would list it as an urgent repair. Rite Away never came out either Thursday or Friday. I called AHS Friday afternoon and they now say the claim was denied and they would have a contractor call us to discuss why. AHS would not answer any of my questions and refused to let me speak to any other operators or superiors. Contractor has not called. AHS will not speak about claim or explain why it was denied. 3 days later the property is still without running water, still has a leak and now a hole in the ceiling and huge mess of drywall all over the stove. Now I am forced to call another plumber to repair the leak and also a contractor to repair the drywall too, even though I have a home warranty contract with AHS that should have covered the leak and drywall repair. American Home Shield has not upheld the home warranty contract.
We have service resolution representatives available to assist when needed. We apologize for the experience your tenants are facing. I will have someone reach out to you for resolution.

I have been with AHS for more than 10 years. Several weeks ago my bank sent a new debit card. AHS is sending me emails on a daily basis reminding me to update my card info. All good right? Not really, I was on hold for over an hour and a half. So long I went onto the internet and put in a request for a quote. The rep giving quotes called within 5 minutes. Apparently, they want new business but can't take care of their current customers. I explained to the rep my predicament, she was surprised and asked me to hold. When I finally hung up I had 2 calls going. One was on hold for almost 2 hours, the other for 40 minutes. I don't believe my relationship with AHS will be continuing.
We are sorry to hear that you are having billing issues. Normally, customers can update their billing information on the website or through the automated phone system. Service calls and sales calls differ due to high call volume for winter season, however we will work to improve call times so that we can prevent customers from holding like you did. Please reply back if you would like someone to follow up with you concerning this matter.

We have had an American Home Shield contract for two years. We've had many unsatisfactory experiences with the "repair technicians" who they use. We've had problems with Air conditioning repair firms who do the work unsatisfactorily, then go out of business, so there is nobody to stand behind the work. We've had five or six technicians come out to do repair work on the same problem over and over for air conditioning units, refrigerators and pool heaters. Our most recent experience, within the past week has been with a pool heater "repair technician". The man showed up, had no business card, no id, no sign on his pickup truck, no tools and spit tobacco every 30 seconds. Because he had no tools, it was impossible for him to look at the pool heater to determine what was causing a loud banging noise. He said he only had 5 or 10 minutes, kept looking at his watch and left shortly thereafter.
All he did was open the front panel by using the thumb screws on the front panel and looked at the burners for less than one minute. He did not open up the unit and look at the thermostat or the heat exchanger. He did not test the water. He did not look at the filter or any of the valves or any of the pipes to see if there was something clogging the pipes or if there was debris. He did absolutely nothing but spit tobacco and look at his watch, while he was waiting for the unit to start making the loud banging noises. He then claimed the unit had been cared for improperly and was probably corroded and not covered by warranty and left. I don't know how he could have known that since he didn't look at anything. We have our pool serviced on a weekly basis and has been done consistently for many years. They keep detailed records of Ph and other chemical levels. So, in my opinion, his claim is unfounded and uninformed as well as baseless.
American Home Shield has denied our claim to have our unit repaired or replaced due to this technician's baseless report to them. I asked to have a supervisor call me, three different times. I've emailed them. I have heard nothing from them. Further, this is the second time they have sent a "technician" to fix the same problem. Same Exact Problem Again. Different company, of course. When I asked to have a second opinion, I was told there is nobody else in my area who services pool heaters. Really? Really? This is Florida. Every third person has a pool here. If this is not taken care of by AHS, I will report this to every single agency, both Federal and State, that I can think of. I will also be contacting our attorney.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. There is already a service resolution representative assigned to assist with this pool heater issue. We apologize for the experience. Please reach out to the researcher, however they will return in the office to attempt to reach you again. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the service received on your service requests, but we would like to make things right.

Our most recent claim was for an air conditioner. It just stopped. It felt like it was cooling less and less. I owned homes for a few years and I know normally that means something's going out. So I called AHS and they sent somebody out to check it out. They said the outside unit was bad and they were gonna clean it up upstairs and add some Freon. Our air conditioner now works like a champ after they fixed it. It went out right at the end of the summer, it still will be ready for next spring I hope.
I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was very simple. I called and they got right on it. Their contractors are very good and very professional. I've been telling people about AHS because it pays off in the long run. One repair at the house would be $500 or $600. That's your annual fee.

We have had AHS for over 15 years. Last night our pilot light on our furnace would not stay lit. I put in a claim online and this morning got an email to call a company they selected to schedule an appt. The company said they had no availability until Monday which is 3 days from now. I decided to call around and found a company that could fix it today at 2pm. I called AHS back to let them know and they said they could expedite the service but it would still be 24 hours. I have small children so I need to have heat tonight. AHS refuses to accept a claim for a vendor they are not partnered with. They refuse to pay anything if I chose to select this other company. Obviously, they don't care about taking care of their longtime clients. They are all about getting their payments each month and then wanting to provide service when it is needed. With AHS you are at the mercy of their vendors. In this case, I am choosing to protect my family and kids - get heat immediately and canceling my 15 year policy with AHS.
Caroline we understand there are emergency situations. Sorry for any delays you experienced. I can have a case manager contact your concerning the service request and questions you had about using an outside contractor. Please reply back if you would like a callback.

American Home Shield finished doing work in our house a few weeks ago. It was great because I got to work with somebody I always worked with before. Initially, I had three appliances that needed repair within a week. American Home Shield sent me three different referrals which was really inefficient. I called them up and asked if I could just have one of them come out because he's somebody we worked with before. They agreed and it made my life way better. I only paid a one time fee of $78 instead of having to pay three times because it was only one person who came out to service me. It was practical, efficient and they worked with me. I've only had them for a year.

I placed a service request with AHS for two appliances - leaking dishwasher and non-lighting cooktop - both General Electric. At first I thought everything was going according to procedure. GE repair service called and scheduled a technician. The appointment was two weeks out, but that seems to be standard these days when trying to have appliances serviced. When the tech arrived, he didn't have a work order for the cooktop, but he ordered the part for the leaking dishwasher (bad intake washer, design flaw). I called AHS again to have the cooktop put on the work order for when the tech came back with the dishwasher part the following week. They claimed that they would, and even left me a message saying the service request had been updated by a GE representative and named her, and the technician would fix the cooktop on his next visit. Not wanting to waste another day off work, I called AHS two more times to confirm that the cooktop was on the work order and was assured it was.
The same technician arrived a week later with the dishwasher part, but no cooktop on the work order. At this point I must commend the GE service technician. He was competent, professional and actually seems to care, but he is not authorized to work on appliances for which he has no order. I immediately called AHS, but the telephone wait time to reach customer service was as usual over 20 minutes, and the technician had to leave for his next appointment. He explained that it really didn't matter--no work order, no work. He did however let me know that a service request had been placed for the following week. I was not ever contacted regarding scheduling this mystery appointment, and it is scheduled, of course, for a day and time that I am unavailable.
I have since tried 3 times to get in touch with a supervisor with AHS, but to no avail. Apparently AHS' customer service shies away from disgruntled customers, which should leave them with a lot of free time. The best comment I can make about this experience is that it happened a few weeks before the annual renewal of my AHS contract, and it has made my decision not to renew with AHS crystal clear.
We apologize for the delay in service on your appliance service request. I will forward this feedback to have someone from our service resolution team contact you to resolve this matter.

My wife did that and it just went very smoothly. The contractor that came was fine. He came in, saw the problem, diagnosed it, and ultimately solved it. He explained the problem. He said “Let’s unplug the refrigerator to let everything melt.” And when it was melted, he got the door open and gave me a call. I came back, he came back and replaced the unit and fixed it. It was done very well. Overall, we were very pleased with the service. It was prompt and fast. The problem was diagnosed and solved very quickly.

I contacted American Home Shield in August and was given a brief sales presentation consisting primarily of selecting the appliances I wanted covered under the "membership" or "agreement" and the fee for those selected was $45 per month. During the conversation the salesperson barely provided info and the gist of the conversation consisted of selected the covered items and after selecting the covered systems, I was advised that there is no obligation to continue membership with American Home Shield which I was aware of because it's stated on the company's website. At the time I thought nothing of it but I was not given any information regarding cancelling. I paid the first month fee of $45. Within two weeks I decided the cost to continue coverage was too high and when I received an email about the next month fee I decided not to pay it.
To my shock and disgust two months later I received a letter from Transworld Systems a collection agency demanding a payment of $540 - 11 months of $45 monthly fees!! I called American Home Shield and not one telephone customer service rep explained how American Home Shield can turn a non-contract over to a collection agency or how the membership works, though I was told I should've "called back and cancelled" the "membership" otherwise it is a contract to make payments each month. I never made a claim and even the welcome letter did not give instructions on "cancelling" the "membership." I contacted American Home Shield on 11/13/14 and the customer service rep could not explain the membership and put me on hold to "check" then disconnected the call!
I am filing a fraud complaint with my state Attorney General Consumer Protection Unit and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because not only is American Home Shield deliberately misrepresenting the product they sell, not giving information that is required but treat the "month to month" membership like a contract covered by the FCRA- those were the exact words of one rep I spoke to- that American Home Shield is a contract for purposes of the FCRA.
I am angry and disgusted but not surprised that so many companies in this country have become predators that prey on consumers. American Home Shield misrepresented their product to me, I was NOT TOLD anything other than the monthly cost for the ten appliances I chose to cover and was not provided information other than the bare minimum - what's covered and how much it costs per month but found out the hard way the company uses strong arm collection agency tactics in spite of providing little to no information and most of that may or may not be accurate, depending on the "sales rep" taking the call. However the end result is misrepresentations and omissions. It is a Big Problem not providing a customer enough information to make an informed decision about exactly what the consequences are doing business with them and it resulted in my credit being damaged by a collection record.
We would like to make things right Linda. I will forward this feedback to have a representative contact you regarding this matter. Please allow us the opportunity to answer any questions that you may have.

Filing claim at American Home Shield was very easy. When I had the problem, I just put a phone call in and they called a place and the place came out the next day. It was some kind of reserve tank for our water heater. They were in and out in 15 minutes so my husband had no complaint. I’m just really impressed with their service. I had my doubts especially when you’re trying to enter a contract with companies. They tell you this and they tell you that. And when something happens, there’s always this runaround, and I haven't experienced that with AHS so I’m very happy. I’d recommend them, definitely.
We are happy that everything went smooth with your request for the water heater. It was a pleasure reading about your experience.

What most people don't know about America Home Shield is that you are forced to use one their shady contractors or get very little coverage. Their contractor told us that our furnace was unsafe and he could get AHS to replace it BUT there were additional charges of $1,577 to bring it up "to code" that weren't covered by AHS. The added costs were outrageous like $175 haul away, $465 for 18' of flue vent (when the furnace is 5' from the roof line), $327 for 3' of gas line and a new shutoff, and 3 other insane charges.
AHS offered $257 to us if we chose another contractor! Said that's what they were paying their contractor because of their superior buying power! AHS initially explained that the added uncovered costs were in addition to the $3,500 they would pay the contractor for the furnace/install. Oops, which is it, $257 or $3,500? A lot of dancing and double-talk from them in subsequent conversations.
Obviously, there is an agreement that AHS pays a minimal amount to their contractor and the only way he can make a profit is to rip off the AHS policyholder for as much as they can for "extras." Actually, it's a ripoff by both of them and double-talk when you discuss it with them! AHS later in the day offered $471.81 cash-out toward a furnace with another contractor. Still ridiculous to replace a furnace for this cost. Needs negative stars and some Pinocchios! The reputable contractor we will use is charging $3,651 which includes everything up to code and permit inspection.
We understand that having a warranty can be confusing. Every warranty company has a contractual agreement with their contractors, suppliers, etc. We do value your loyalty, but we must go by the contractual coverage. I would be glad to have a case manager review this service request, and contact you to answer any questions that you may have. If you would like a call back, please reply back.

Don't waste your money. You are better off just saving a few dollars weekly and self-insure. Let me tell you of my ongoing experience with American Home Shield. I submitted a request to have my KitchenAid microwave repaired Oct 1, 2014. Almost a dozen calls (on hold now) and 45 days later and AHS is still no closer to repairing my microwave. I won't even go into details about my ice maker, one catastrophe at a time. I have only received one call from the contractor and one from AHS. The short story on this is they never return or call back when they say. The travesty is that AHS portrays they will save you financially with their warranty and replace your appliance should it fail.
American Home Shield is offering to replace my $559, 2.0 cu ft, stainless steel, KitchenAid microwave with a $189, 1.6 cu ft, white, Whirlpool microwave. Obviously the two are not even close to equivalent. AHS response to this discrepancy is that their contract states, “they only need to replace an appliance based on its functions and not its size or color.” My warranty costs $500, service call $75, and difference to upgrade to stainless steel microwave $79 (one that is not equivalent). I am looking at $654 to replace my microwave, which does not fit in the cabinet space above the range. Purchasing states, “Review all specifications to ensure the appliance fits in your space provided as modifications and return fees are not part of your contract coverage,” and “It would be up to you to make modifications to the space to make it fit.”
Dwayne most customer receive several options when repairs or replacements are involved. I would be more than happy to have a case manager reach out to you concerning your request. Please reply if you would like someone to contact you.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and their response. Their fix has always been good. It has been a money-saver and time-saver for me because I work and don't have time to find somebody to fix things. I'm delighted that the service is kept up since I pay my premium. It was last year that I had a difficulty with our air conditioning which stopped working. We had to have some work done on it but it wasn't that extensive. We had to take a part and the cost of the Freon which was something I would have to pay. I was prepared for that but the most difficult thing was that the weather did not cooperate once the part arrived. We were without air conditioning due to an unseasonable rainy spell. But that was outside anyone's control. I would not say that I was unhappy with either the vendor or my American Home Shield Service based on that.
My interaction with the contractor was very limited because I have an adult son who lives with me. When the contractor came, he wasn't displeased with him. I did meet them when they came out to make the final repair because I needed to come home and pay a substantial amount to them for the Freon. They were appropriate and there were no messes. They did what they needed to do. They were pleasant, introduced themselves, stated what they were there to do and were easy to work with.

Our first experience with AHS was with the electric. Our contracted stated it would cover code violations. No small print or asterisks attached just that it would cover code violations. Unfortunately after buying our home we found out our electric box was out of code so we called AHS since it was in our contract. An electrician was sent out and immediately asked for $75 and then tells me AHS won't fix it unless there has been a defect and then left. We called AHS to tell them according to the contract it was covered yet they refused to do anything about it. I'm now going to be out $1600 to update my electric box to code. Just recently our bathroom backed up while I was out of town so I had my wife call. 9 days have gone by and we have yet to hear from any plumber or AHS until today wanting a review of service. Luckily I was able to fix the problem myself with a couple gallons of main line cleaner.
We apologize for the confusion regarding coverage Boyd. Yes, we do cover failures resulting from code violations on certain contracts. Most contractors reach out within 24 business hours, so we would be more than glad to have someone from our service resolution team to follow up.

The washing machine quit working. I went online, filed the claim through there, and that part was very easy. They sent a repairman out who looked at it, told me what was wrong with it. He said the spider had come loose in the back, which messed up the motor. But that it was a two-man job and he was only one man, and therefore he couldn’t do it. I paid the $75 fee and he left. They then sent somebody else out who essentially looked at it and told me the same thing, and said he’d file his report with American Home Shield and they’d take care of it from there.
The first contractor was friendly enough, seemed to know what he was doing. But I didn’t understand why he couldn’t submit the report, why I had to wait almost two weeks to get another guy to come back to tell me the same thing the first guy told me. Unless it was he was afraid they were gonna want to fix it and then he couldn’t do the work because of the laundry room where it was. It’s a tight fit back in there. The second fellow came out. He couldn’t believe the first guy didn’t submit the report. He then asked for the $75 payment because American Home Shield had told him that I hadn’t make the trade fee, so I showed him the receipt from the first guy showing where I had paid it, and he said “Oh okay, never mind then.”
The upshot was it had to be replaced, couldn’t be repaired. It could have been fixed but it was cheaper to replace it than it was to fix it. It wasn’t cost-effective to fix it. They sent me an email explaining that to me. I talked to the gentleman on the phone and said “Can I purchase one locally and you’ll reimburse me for it as long as I don’t exceed the amount that you gave me in the email?” He said “Sure, not a problem.” I just had to send them a receipt once it had been installed. Rep was friendly, very cordial, explained what it was they needed. So then I went to my local Lowe’s, bought a washing machine, had it installed two days later, filed the claim, and they sent me a check.
Over time, American Home Shield has been great. It’s the best investment I ever made. I have recommended them to friends, family members, anybody that’ll listen. It's extremely worthwhile. I’ve had my air conditioner repaired a couple of times, they've replaced my washing machine, they replaced a separate ice maker... For the most part American Home Shield has been very good and most of their providers, their contractors that they’ve sent out to the house, have been very competent. However I’ve had two that I wouldn’t say were really sterling. For instance, we had a slab leak and they sent somebody out to fix it. That guy was a little strange. He looked at it and said “We got a slab leak.” It’s gonna cost $3,000, whatever it was. Turned out it was a leak in the wall. It was leaking under the edge of the wall, under the carpet, that somebody else found and fixed.

A couple of months ago I filed a claim to American Home Shield because the keypad started to stop working. Submitting a claim was very easy. I did it online. They came out first time, looked at it, found the problem and had to order parts. They came back a week later when the parts came in. It's perfect now.
We appreciate the feedback on your most recent claim Gerald! Glad you took the time to share that with us!

I filed a claim with American Home Shield about the problem with the refrigerator and stove. They were able to fix both problems on the same day with the technician they sent. He did an awesome job. This was the second time we had somebody come out and fix the problem. The first time, they put a band-aid on it. The second time, they sent the right technician because he is GE technician who knew the product. The previous technician did not know. He was an appliance service guy but wasn’t familiar with GE Profile appliances so wasn’t able to repair it to our satisfaction. It cost me an additional $75 for the second visit. At least he got the issue fixed and the appliances works just fine. I tell my friends when they buy a house they should get some kind of extended warranty and American Home Shields is what I have.

I first contacted American Home Shield Around the 19th or 20th of September 2014. My oven was on self clean and just stopped working. My birthday was in 2 days, we were expecting 200+ guests so I was in a real bind! I called them to try to get the ball rolling as fast as possible because I know how slow they are and the repair companies they use are the Slowest EVER! It always takes 2 days for the companies to contact you. I think they have a 48 hour limit. The company they use always sets the appointment for almost a week to a week and a half later! They also always call you at closing time so that if you miss their call when you call back, they are closed.
The Company comes out and the service guy is CLUELESS! He's asking my son to help him get my oven out of the wall, remember? my oven was on the cleaning cycle when it stopped working and was locked shut! The service guy tells me, "I need your model number so I can order the parts plus I need another service tech to help me get the oven out"! and also "I can't open your oven door"! Then the guy leaves. I look online, google the problem and I get the door open in 5 minutes!
The service company waits another 1-2 weeks to call me and schedule another appointment and when I tell them I got the door open the lady on the phone tells me, "oh well the service tech is going to order your parts and come out with extra service techs to fix your oven." I said really? She tells me he already knows what's wrong and what parts to order. I hang up and call her right back and give her the model # and serial # so he could order the correct parts, something told me she wasn't writing anything down!
So the service techs show up on October 31st to finally fix my oven, there's 2 techs and 1 trainee. They walk into my home and I notice they don't have any parts!!! OK now I'm upset! No oven for my party and no oven for Halloween, and now we are getting close to the holidays! They come in and troubleshoot my oven and tell me they need to ORDER parts! Yes, Lie number 4 or 5 I can't keep track! The whole time I'm calling American Home Shield complaining and all they do is keep apologizing!
Now it's November 12th, I get a call from American Home Shield telling me they don't make my parts anymore and they have to be rebuilt! We purchased our oven in 2008. All of our appliances are Top of the line DCS. so now American Home Shield offers me $300.00 towards a new oven, I tell the young lady "you must be out of your mind, this oven cost me almost $2500.00 plus dollars." I tell her to fix it! The service company calls me and tells me it will be anywhere from 3 weeks to a month before my oven will be fixed! This means NO OVEN FOR THANKSGIVING! not to mention my wife's birthday is on November 25th, so that's 2 birthday's with NO Oven!
Bottom line is AHS does not know who they are sending into your home and they really don't care!!! I have been without a oven for almost 3 months now! and I have a so called warranty! I will be contacting Rip Off Report about this also! Someone needs to do something about this company, they take your money on time every month but take their time when it's time for them to fix your problem! If you don't believe me look up their reviews on YELP! You will see a Ton of unhappy customers! I am very upset and dissatisfied! The name of the company they sent out is AAR appliance repair out of Glendale, Ca....Look up their YELP! Reviews too! You will see the same Terrible Reviews!
Hi Gerald, I appreciate you sharing your experience on this oven request. This is an important matter that we would like to address. The air conditioner unit wasn’t cooling completely. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was good on the warranty company’s part. The first vendor they referred me to didn’t go well. The contractor had promised to call by a certain time and they didn’t. When I called them back, they kept telling me that they would call. They called the warranty company back and told the warranty company that they had given me a different time, and they didn’t. So I called the warranty company and said that this thing wasn’t going well and I wanted to know if they could get me another contractor which they did. The second contractor was really good. Since the repair, it’s been perfect. American Home Shield is very consumer-oriented and they did a good job. Overall experience was good and it’s referable.

I have been a customer with AHS for about 7 years. My first problem was with my master shower. They dispatched a plumbing company and they did not fix the problem, instead they cut a large square hole in my wall which was later on poorly repaired. AHS then dispatched Duvall plumbing company. They decided to cut the laminate flooring and lift my shower to see if the leak was coming from beneath. That too was not the problem so they dispatched another plumber from the same company and he fixed my leak but my master bathroom was destroyed.
I called AHS and Duvall and told them my bathroom should not have been left this way so they dispatched someone else to fix things, NOT!! This person glued the laminate back but it looks disgusting. He glued the wood panel back but that kept falling off and my bathroom was painted with a white gloss paint and he decided to use a regular dull white. To make matters worse I had recently purchased some pricey red decorative hand towel which he used to clean up the paint and debris with and toss in my shower trash can. I contacted AHS, they pretty much said it was not their problem, they did their part so I should contact Duvall plumbing. I called them and told them I should be reimbursed or my bathroom should be repaired better or at least painted with the same glossy paint. They told me neither would be done. I was 7 months pregnant at the time so I did not pursue any further.

The contractor was good, too. The dishwasher was working when he left. However, I couldn't get it to go back on the settings. I had to call GE back and had to turn the breaker off and count to 30 or something and got it back on. After that, it worked fine. This was my first experience with them and it was a very pleasant one and I appreciate their concern and their being so conscientious.

I've been with them for a long time but they've changed all their things, like before they cover a lot more and now they told me, "Oh, you can choose 10 things that you want to cover." I thought, "Hey, wait a minute. What is this? I'm paying more and they are covering less?" That sounds ridiculous. Also, last time I called I noticed that for what I'm paying, it's only a few more dollars that I have to pay a month, but it has been going up and up and I don't use it that often. I also noticed that the one payment whenever they come will be $75 instead of $100, but they don't tell you that when you call up. So actually you have to call as a new member. If you call as a new member, they give you that information but if you have had them for a while, they are not going to tell you anything. As of right now I pay $100 every time somebody comes to do a repair.
Aside from that, sometimes the companies they use are not very good. They are not very reliable. Recently the air conditioning wasn't working correctly. I thought it was just easy fixing, but actually they changed it and when they changed it I noticed that they ruined my ceiling a little bit. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault. It was that company they used but it could have gone back to them. But I didn’t tell them. That was my fault for not telling them, so I had to fix it myself. I brought another company to fix it. Anyway I'm not angry with them. I still have American Home Shield. But whenever the contractors they use are not good, I let them know.

We bought a house in Sept.2013 and got your services and SO glad we did so, cause in Dec. our heating and cooling unit went out and you all sent out Gra-Tak to look at our unit. The first visit the young man couldn't find the #'s he needed but said he would be out the next day to have someone else look for them. A week later still no call or look from their company so I call and get the run around like it was my fault, the #'s couldn't be read and that maybe we tampered with the unit or the previous owners had so I needed to call around and see if they had work done on the unit. I had never heard of such so I call your office and explain the problem and the next day they had another company come out and he found the #'s right away.
A little old yeah, but they're in plain site (I followed this time) and he ordered a new compressor and in a few days came and put it on. It worked for a day and then blew again. So they sent the man back out and he said it was a bad compressor so ordered another one and it too went out and blew lines and Freon out so they ordered a whole new unit. We did have to pay for the Freon but your company paid for half after the 2nd one blew and got the new one put in. It did take about a month from 1st call to last unit being put in with over $500.00 electric bills for 2 months but in the end it was worth it so we renewed again this yr.

Don't even try to create an online account - it has been 3 months and I still haven't been able to get anyone to help me complete it and the countless times I have tried I consistently get an error message. When you try to call the service line, there is no direct link to general customer service, nor is there an option for online support. I have sent in 4 emails via their contact us button on their website and not received even 1 reply. I am sure their service providers that come out to the house are great - it would just be nice to be able to find that out. I would schedule some service if I could get some help:(

It costs us more money to not have things fixed than it would if we took the $500 and went with your own contractors. Mackenzie and Tara, the lack of customer service reps I happened to work with, were condescending and not interested in saving their company money. I told them that my ceiling fan could be fixed for less than $20 and wanted to have the contractor sent back out on the same $75 I'd already paid for no service, but they're insisting that I replace a $300 fan for $150. And won't reimburse the minimal cost to fix the fan even with a receipt. BBB and Attorney General here I come!

Three months after purchasing our house the pool heater went out. We called American Home Shield who sent a contractor to fix. This pool heater was pretty old and they insisted that the contract replace several parts practically rebuilding the entire unit. 6 years later we have had to call for service 3 -4 times a year, the unit will run for a few weeks and then go out again. Every time AHS sends a contractor and replaces a part. Sometimes the same part over and over.
This past year the heater once again went out in May, AHS sends someone out (yet another $75 out of pocket). The contractor replaces ANOTHER part and says it's fixed. I come home from work and yet again it is not. I am told a recall will be sent but it will be 3 days. 3 Days later the contractor comes out, says he had to replace another part but now my entire pool is leaking air.
After about 5 more trips the heater is working again. But it takes longer to heat up than ever. I tell AHS this and they say the the contractor has stated that the pool heater isn't made to heat very high. REALLY? It worked great and heated just fine for 3 months when I purchased the house. Now two months later the heater will heat then cool over and over, never actually heating. Another call to AHS and now the contractor says that lizards have fried the control board and they will not cover! After six SIX years of getting the run around from this company they now will not cover repairs EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER FIXED THE ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH. I am outraged and would never recommend this company to anyone. I will be canceling ASAP.

American Home Shield has finally resolved the issue and has provided me a like dishwasher.
Original Review: Nov. 12, 2014
My very basic model dishwasher stopped cleaning and drying 2 1/2 months ago and it costs $200 in the market. 2 different contractors have come at 5 different times throughout these past months. Drain pump, gas kits all around, heating element, control board, fuses have been replaced or at least receipts show that parts have been replaced. On 3rd trip Sears tech, one of the contractors, started telling AHS that this unit not worthy of repair but the AHS person lied to the contractor saying that customer insist on repairing so go ahead and repair. That’s when they changed the drain pump and O-ring. It still did not work.
On 5th trip Sears’s tech advised AHS to replace the unit and AHS told the tech to let the customer know that AHS will be contacting with the replacement option within 48 hours. This morning 48 had gone and no one contacted, so I called. I was told that tech said that he can repair the unit in $81 to AHS and no cost to customer so I could use that $85 toward the purchase. This was a lie as well because tech never said that. I have asked them to fix the dishwasher. I know that AHS is the trying to trap me between contractors and AHS because I was able to listen to these conversations as I was right there with the contractors and I could hear the person voice from AHS side through the phone. So basically AHS will say one thing to the contractor and something totally different to the customer when customer calls back.
I never asked for the replacement. I just wanted my dishwasher to get fixed so my old mom doesn’t have to stand and do the dishes by hand. Even with all the discount AHS gets from the contractor, I bet they have spent more money than the replacement but it is their decision. I just want my dishwasher fixed. If some read it, please do something to help me. I am not willing to take the option of using $81 repair cost towards the purchase. Either give me the proper replacement cost or fix it.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. There is a case manager already assigned to assist you with this matter. They will contact you on today.

I was told that in order to send a different contractor I would have to pay an additional $75. I refused. Asked to speak to a supervisor. No supervisor available. I was told that my information would be sent via email to a supervisor who would call me back in 24 hours. I explained that I had an 83 year old woman in the home who could not tolerate the heat and this needed immediate attention. The girl I spoke to was extremely rude and absolutely no help whatsoever. He put an igniter in the bottom of the stove and then he left. Two weeks later, the boiler in the stove did not work. So I called American Home Shield to have the man come back to find out what the problem was. He came back and he told me that that was a different issue. It wasn't the same issue and he wanted me to pay another $125 for him to repair it. I was not willing to do that because he should have repaired it on the first visit when the stove wasn't working the first time. He said he wasn't going to do it. He called the company and I called the company.
They didn't give me any satisfaction in terms of sending anyone out until the last person I talked to who wanted to have me to call somebody to have him come out and fix it and they were going to give me a voucher in order to cover the expense. But since it is too much of an issue to be bothered with paying somebody every month, to get somebody out to fix something and they don't do it the first time, I canceled the contract instead.
It took forever for us to get to somebody to cancel the policy. The first lady I called back said, “We'll have to send somebody out.” Then I had to be transferred to someone else. Then I had to be transferred to someone else. Then I sent them an email over their website. Then somebody called me. The only person that offered me any kind of consolation was the last person that I talked with who I indicated that it wasn't working for me and we were going to cancel the contract and she said she was going to send us a letter to that effect.
We apologize for the inconvenience George. We hate to hear that you requested to cancel the warranty and hope to improve our services based on your feedback. Thank you for sharing.

I have had AHS for 3 years and they have denied half of my claims. In one instance I had a sink knob that did not work and the plumber said that the only option AHS would allow him to check was "excessive force" which would not be covered by the warranty. When I told them what the plumber said, they said that I had to call him and have him call them, however he never called me back. So I was stuck paying the $75 deductible and the cost to fix it. When I told them I was disappointed with them and that I would cancel, they said that they would be happy to process that for me. I would not recommend them and would find another company with better service.

When our refrigerator all of a sudden stopped cooling, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online at first, but ended up calling and speaking to somebody at the contact number. Later that afternoon, he told me who to expect to be calling. The company contacted me and told me that they were coming out, and showed up the next day. Our interactions with the contractor was good. He said he thought he knew what the problem was but it turned out not to be that. He fixed two parts and told us to try a couple different things with the plugs and where we get our plugs in. Everything was handled promptly. So far our experience with AHS has been good. They were quick, efficient, and took care of the problem. So, I'm happy.

We've been with American Home Shield for a while and so far they've been doing a good job. The only little incident was what happened here lately.
We had a faucet that they were trying to replace. They've been out three times. At first they said it wasn't leaking. Then after they left, it started leaking. So I called them again. They came back out and said, "Okay, we need a new faucet." So we put a new faucet on. But then right after he left, I said, "Well, let me look underneath to make sure it's not leaking." And when I checked it, sure enough it was leaking. I’m not sure if it’s leaking through the connection or if it’s leaking where you have the flush on top of the sink. I’m not sure if it's the little rubber thing around there or what, but it’s really leaking pretty bad. To make things a little bit worse when he replaced the faucet, he replaced it with a silver chrome faucet instead of a brass. We have a double sink and the other side of the sink is a brass type faucet! (AHS later informed me that their policy is they put exactly the same thing that you had on, same color, same everything.)
So we called American Home Shield and said, "Look, the guy has been out here three times and the faucet is still leaking. We want to get it fixed." I asked is there any way possible they would consider a different plumbing company out? Because I just want to get a new set of eyes in there, somebody new that hasn’t seen the problem before to see if he can fix the problem. And I’m hoping we could get that resolved. Because it's kind of hectic, my wife and I both work, and usually when they said they’re gonna come it’s always from 10 to 2 or from 12 to 5 in the afternoon. So when you set up an appointment you pretty much have to take the whole day off, or at least 3/4 of the day off. In my case, I usually have to take the whole day off because it takes me at least an hour to get to work...
Anyway, bottom line is we’re trying to get the plumber people to come back to see if they can fix the leak. But other than that AHS has always done a good job in the past. In fact I always tell a lot of people that I’ve talked to that we got American Home Shield, it gives you peace of mind because you’re paying your premium, and if something breaks down you can call American Home Shield. You don’t have to be looking at the phone book or looking at the computer and say, “Who can I call?” This way you just call them, they send somebody out and you don’t have to worry about that headache. And when you do call them on the phone, they usually do a good job taking care of the claim. It takes a while by the time you call and by the time they get out here. But usually it goes pretty smooth.
Thank you for being a loyal customer Edward. We hope your faucet issues is resolved. Please let us know if we need to assist. We value your feedback!

Original Review: Nov. 10, 2014
I recently purchased an older home built in 2010 and purchased a AHS policy for the home since I have been a customer for many years and have been very satisfied in the past. However, shortly after moving into the home we noticed our Roman Tub in the Master bathroom had a small leak in the hot water faucet. We called AHS and they dispatched a plumber. The plumber came out and indicated it required a special tool which they did not have. I called AHS and they dispatched a second plumber. This plumber came out and they also could not fix the faucet. Being Frustrated I called AHS a 3rd time and a 3rd plumber was dispatched. The plumber came a determined they could fix it with some new parts but said AHS would not cover it.
AHS indicated the warranty would not cover it. The plumber ordered the parts and requested I pay 50% upfront. Once the parts came in the plumber attempted to fix it but could not and actual made the leak worse. Now the tub cannot be used at all for fear of flooding. I have filed a complaint with the BBB on the plumber for replacement of the repair cost. They reimbursed me half but I am appealing for full reimbursement. However, I feel AHS should cover the cost of the repair and repair my faucet. I also feel AHS should reimburse me the $75.00 service fee. I have called AHS/email them numerous times(because you cannot talk to a manager directly, not a supervisor). I have been told my case was under research. AHS called me today and I felt the Customer service supervisor was very disrespectful. She finally indicated she would have a manager contact me in 24-48 hours. We will see. So far AHS has not been very responsive.
AS I said in the beginning, I have been extremely pleased with AHS in previous years until this repair. It seems AHS is not interested in attempting to resolve your situation or at least meeting you halfway. I am seriously thinking of trying a different company like CHOICE after my policy is up. Right now I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AHS to anyone but this might change depending how AHS responds in the next 24-48 hours. I may also seek other legal options... I would really like a MANAGER from AHS to call me to discuss this as according to my contract a repair for pre-existing conditions (sediment) is covered provided it is not readily identifiable which it isn't unless you take the faucet apart.
Hello Gregory, thank you for making us aware of the issue you had with the plumbing service work order. The call was escalated to a case manager, Kina, and to the supervisor Franch. I will have them to contact you if you're still in need of assistance. Please advise.

The first experience we had with American Home Shield was very negative. This was when we first bought the house. We had to have a new air conditioner installed. The service guy installed a new Carrier air conditioner but didn't install it properly. His job was red tagged twice. And since it was not installed properly, the water was not draining properly and caused a great whole of damage to my kitchen ceiling, which had to be repaired. He insisted that we allow him to do the repair because he was responsible for it. And Moe sent Larry and Curly out here to fix it. They got in to an argument over who was doing it right. That was not a pleasant experience. To this day, there is a problem with my air conditioner. I went off American Home Shield one year when they raised the prices. As soon as that happened, my water heater went out so I went back with American Shield.
The most recent claim I filed with AHS was for a leaking faucet. They came and replaced the faucet, and actually had to order new one. They told us where we could pick up the parts and we picked up the parts. Then we called them and they came in and got it replaced. I re-upped with them a couple of times since then, so overall my experience with AHS has been good. I would recommend them but I would suggest that they not use Spark air conditioning because that's the one who messed us up. He now operates under a different name but I would suggest they double check if they're using him as a vendor.

My washing machine stopped working so I filed a claim by calling in. The representatives on the phone were nice. However the contractor who came out wasn't the best. He just talked on the phone majority of the time and said he would be back to fix it but I did not hear from him for a few days so I called. I was told that the machine part just came and I had to schedule them to come back. He came back and fixed it. The washer works now and it's fine. American Home Shield has gotten the job done when I needed it.

We purchased our home a 9 months ago, and with it came a 1 year American Home Shield warranty. When our water heater started gushing water on a Saturday we called them and their automated phone service said to turn off the water to the tank and the soonest they could send someone out was Monday, with no time frame. Then, when the man comes to check out the leak he tells us there is nothing he can do because we turned the water off so he can't see where the leak is. When I offered to turn it on, he said American Home Shield told him not have it turned on, that we would need to schedule another appt. So now we have to wait another day with no hot water just for them to diagnose the problem. God only knows how long it will take for them to fix it. Felt like the only reason for the appointment today was to get my $75 dollar copay. Please don't use these people.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Aaron. We would like to have a case manager follow up with this request. I will have someone contact you to assist. Sorry for the delay!

This company is horrible and I am a contractor and try to give any company and especially a contractor the benefit of the doubt. This company sends people out to your home and fixes nothing. Then when you call because nothing got fixed they send another contractor out that has no idea what the first contractor did. I literally watched as they tried to replace the same part over and over. Then when it comes to actually replacing something they claim your appliance or equipment needs maintenance or pretty much any excuse to not pay. They lure you in with low monthly pricing but it gets you nowhere. Takes days if not weeks to send another contractor to you and even then the contractor is restricted on what he says and does and because this company would never spend more than you pay to fix anything. The whole purpose of a warranty is to protect you from the big charges and replacements not to band aid your house together until it really breaks and then deny your claim. There are a lot of good warranty companies but this is not one of them.
David your feedback is appreciated. Being a contractor, I'm sure you are aware that warranty companies rely on contractors to give their expertise on what has failed, and what it will take to either repair or replace a covered item. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the warranty. If you have an outstanding service request that you would like assistance with, you are more than welcome to provide your information for a case manager to follow up with you. Otherwise we will use this feedback to improve our services and our list of service contractors. Thank you for sharing!

I called them and then they contacted me to let me know about the person who was going to respond to the call and that he would call us within 24 hours to set up an appointment. The gentleman called within 12 hours and set up an appointment, and he was very good. He got right to it, finished it, got it all done, cleaned up and I have no problems since then. I watched what the contractor was doing, made sure that I felt he was doing good and he was. He knew what to do and how to do it. He had a little trouble getting the thing unplugged. There was something in there that was messed up but he stuck with it, and got it done.

I am writing to express my frustration with American Home Shield in the regards of an existing issue that I've been having with my AC compressor since April 2013. First off, I have all electric in my home, therefore, my outside compressor runs year long providing both heat and AC. To begin, in April of 2013, my compressor died. I place a service call with American Home Shield. The contractor came out and informed me that the compressor to my unit had gone up. American Home Shield approved the work however, since my AC unit is old and required R22 refrigerant it would be a cost to me of $1200. So just to keep a running tally, that's $42 for monthly service plan, $100 for the service fee, and $1200 for the refrigerant. So far I'm out of pocket ~$1342. All worked seemingly well until the end of November of 2013 (of course right around the time when family and friends were in town for the holidays). I placed another service call around the beginning of December resulting in another $100. Same contractor came out, told me he hit the reset button outside my unit and that all should be fine. It wasn't, the reset button had to constantly be reset (which I know shouldn't have been the case if the unit was working properly).
He says he found some minor issues to the outside unit that he repaired (off the top of my head I can't remember what they were). January 2014, I started having issues again. Placed another service call, same repair man came out. This time he decides to take a look at the inside unit (mind you, this is the first time he has come inside). Tells me I need a new evaporator coil, which will require an addition $800 from me for more refrigerant. Now I'm out roughly $2,142 not counting the monthly plan charge of $42. He also tells me he found a small leak outside that was causing my unit to leak refrigerant. That of which he stated he repaired. I pay the money, and missed an entire day of work. All seemingly goes well until February of 2014 at around 5:30 am when I wake up to cold air blowing on my head. At this point, I'm beside myself with frustration and anger. I placed a service call yet again, around 7:00am, missing yet another day of work. I speak to a service rep who hears my plight and decides to send another contractor out to assess the work of the previous contractor. She also says that she is escalating the issue to the research department and to expect a phone call.
The new contractor comes out and is in disbelief at the amount of shortcomings of the previous contractor. One of the main issues found was the shotty work that was done in repairing the leak outside. All work is approved and repaired. March-April 2014 I begin having issues again with the same unit. I place another service call (can't remember if I paid this time or not). Second contractor comes out only to discover more issues with the inside unit that should have been addressed with the original contractor, consequently I missed yet another day of work. End of April, I have issues again, this time with the evaporator coil that was replaced by the previous contractor. To make the long story short, about 1/3 of the coil was exposed which would cause the compressor to work extra hard shortening its lifespan, causing me to miss another day of work. This issue was resolved, however, due the the stress on the compressor, it blew again in June. After spending countless hours on the phone with American Home Shield, crying and missing yet another day of work, I was told that I would have all repairs done free of charge. You'd think this would be the end of this nightmare, alas it is not.
Just this morning, I tried to run my heat for the first time this season only for the unit to not be functioning AGAIN! I placed another call with American Home Shield, I asked for a manager only to be told there is none available. I tell my story to the technician on the other end who, once again tells me that this matter will be escalated and that I should get a call within 24 hours. I told her this is the second time I'm supposed to receive a call only to never get one. I seem to have better luck dealing with the contractor first then calling my home warranty company. I'm totally beside myself with frustration at this point. I've spent a lot of money (so much in fact that I can't even remember how much). I have to wait for call backs which never seem to happen even when I'm told the situation is escalated. I have better luck calling myself or even calling the contractor directly and letting them deal with my home warranty company. Since 2013 I haven't had one season when I didn't have a major issue/repair of this same unit, and the issues are not short lived, they seem to drag out for almost entire seasons. I'm now back at square one with the holidays approaching, temps taking a serious dip, etc.
At what point will American Home Shield replace the unit? At what point do I, the customer, get decent service from the service that I'm paying for month after month? And at what point does American Home Shield stop using a contractor that is known for giving horrendous service? Just to note, I'm trying my best to revisit this timeline to the best of my ability without having exact dates in front of me for I'm at work, and will have to leave early again to be home in time for the contractor, subsequently costing yet another $100.
We appreciate your patience and feedback. We would like to ensure that a case manager follows up with this service issue. You will be contacted within 48 business hours. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The contractor you are referring to will be re-evaluated by our contractor relations department, as we expect qualified service contractors to work with our customers. Thank you Lisa for giving us the opportunity to make things right!

The people that were coming did not have enough information about the product. So that was a problem that we had. Had they sent a certified technician, the problem would have been solved within a day. Other than that, we've had good experience with American Home Shield. Recently we had a couple of commodes leaking. The AHS representative that I talked to on the phone was very nice and polite. I submitted the claim over the phone because their website is not user-friendly. It was a repeating problem and you cannot report that online. Anyway, AHS sent a company and they fixed it. I am writing to express my displeasure with a plumbing company used by American Home Shield. They have been to my home 3 times and each time another plumber had to come out. Once another plumber sees what has been done, they say to call them, they can't touch it. Now I don't have heat, and another repairman just left unable to service me. I have paid 3 times and still nothing is working. What is so bad, when they came out the last time, they left my unit with parts unattached, paper in my fan and parts left out. I really think that AHS should check their vendors periodically. Since this is a public board, I'm not posting the company's name. That is not fair to blast them, but it's also not fair that I don't have heat after all these calls either. I tried talking to a rep at AHS and got nowhere. Therefore I'm having to solve my issues myself. I cannot freeze another night, nor pay for a hotel when I pay a mortgage. She has to go by the guidelines and so do I.

My air conditioning unit kept going on and off because the breaker box wouldn't stay on so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. I had problems getting someone out but they did tell me it might be hard to get anyone out because of the time and season. They just sent it in as a regular call. I finally got the guy to come out and they just checked it out and said that it was the breaker box. He looked at it and turned the breaker box back on and said it was the breaker box.
I had been on vacation and came in and everything was off. He said that it should be due to the fact that there had been some thunderstorms in the area and some areas had had transformers going out and it may have had a power surge that caused it. He said that it was turned on now and everything should be okay. It didn't so I called back in and they had him come back out. He told them that he told me that I should have an electrician come out and I said, "No, he didn't indicate that." I got an electrician out to look at it. He said he did not see that there was anything wrong but said I had a very good breaker box.
Everything looked good but since it had been there awhile he would replace that one and see if it made any difference, which he did and it made no difference. I called him back, he came back, looked at it and did nothing for a whole week. I kept calling but he wouldn't answer my phone calls or come back out. He finally came back out at the end of the week and never did anything else other than he just looked at the unit and saw no indication that anything was wrong. He didn't know what to do because unless he was there when it went off, he couldn't tell what was happening. We're talking 100-90 degree weather and I had gone over a week putting up with that.
I finally called back and requested someone else to come out and look at it. In the meantime, when they first came out the very first time, the guy that came out and checked out the first time, when he came out I had paid him $100. As he was finishing up, he started to walk out the door and because he kept going in and out, I thought he was going to the truck to write up the order for me. He never came back so he never even wrote what he did or what he looked at or gave me a receipt and neither did the guy that came out at the end of week. They never wrote up what they looked at or gave me anything. When the second guy came out, he went out and looked at it and immediately told me a part was burnt and said it should have been replaced when they replaced the capacitor because you can see where it's been damaged. He replaced that and another part that was next to it which he said really wasn't the right size for the top of my air conditioner.
After he replaced those, I have not had any problem with it since. He told me he would be back on a Saturday but didn't show up. It went all weekend. I called him back and he wouldn't return the calls. I finally called him on Monday and he said he'll come back out. Then I got a call back from them saying I still owed them $100 for the service done. I'm going, "No, I paid the guy when he came out. I gave my hundred dollar bill," and I said if they're saying that I didn't pay it that's not going to be right because number one he never gave me any paperwork. Overall, our experience with the American Home Shield service has been good. When I finally told them about what was going on, they immediately got someone else out here. On their part, they did everything they could. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I contacted American Home Shield because my light fixture came apart on the wall. The fixture itself works. The electrician said it looks like somebody broke it. So I called and said I didn't break it. I have plenty of money to pay for the light fixture, and it's a strange situation. I've never seen it before or after. But I said it just broke and I don't have any way to prove it. I said I've done a lot of business with them and they've always taken care of all my stuff. The lady I talked to said they'll take care of the $75 charge. Before I had the electrician come out, I called and said this is very peculiar. I asked if I can take a picture of it. Sent it to the electrician before he comes out because I don't want to pay $75 just to have him say somebody broke it. So American Home Shield took care of the problem but I didn't have to pay $75. I will have to get a new light fixture.
The contractor came up there and looked at it, and he said it's hard to tell because he's not a metal engineer, but it is strange that it came apart on the wall. He was very nice and knowledgeable. He had to give American Home Shield the report based on what he saw. He said it looks like somebody broke it, but he didn't fix anything cause unless he had a welding kit, he couldn't put it back together. My house is more of a traditional, country type home. He didn't have any fixture choices to choose from. So I said I'll just buy my own and then call somebody out here to take that one down and put the new one up. They've always been real good and they always send good quality people out here to fix the job so I'm happy with them. They backed the insurance that I pay for.

American Home Shield has very elaborate contracts that they will use as soon as something expensive comes up. I have a plumbing stoppage in my house. The pipe is broken somewhere in the corner of the house foundation. In order to reach it, the plumber wants to dig from the outside to get an accurate assessment and fix the problem with the least damage. So because he's going to have to dig from the outside AHS will not cover. It seems that they are more focus on the fine print than providing good customer service. I have two houses with them and I came here to research a new company to switch to but I decided to leave some feedback so others don't make the same mistake I did.
Hi Rosendo, I apologize for any confusion the contract verbiage may have caused. That is correct that if it is outside the main foundation, it is a non-covered repair. If there are any further coverage questions or assistance that is needed please contact us.
Rosendo updated their star rating from a 2 stars to a 1 stars after speaking with the company outside of the ConsumerAffairs platform.
I just got an email that AHS is trying to clean their reviews and that the claimed to have resolved the issue. Not only they didn't solve the issue, but they are trying to get negative reviews deleted to get more business. My claim was not resolved and I stand by my review. Read my review and if that doesn't convince you to find another company, request a copy of their contract and read the small print. If you still not convinced call to enroll and a very nice person will answer, then call the claims department and notice the difference!

About two months before we filed for American Home Shield to come fix it, the refrigerator started freezing. We noticed ice in the back and days later, it started making a weird clicking noise. So we tried to turn the refrigerator off and let it defrost on its own. We turned it back on and it was fine for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing so we called them. I submitted the claim online and it was a lot easier than doing it over the phone. The contractor came in and was able to diagnose the problem. He defrosted the refrigerator again, took apart the components in the back and figured out that it was the thermostat that was causing the problem. He put everything back together and ordered the thermostat and came back a week and a half later. He was really friendly, professional and quick - in and out. He fixed the problem so obviously he's good at what he does. This experience with American Home Shield has been great. Anytime we've had an issue, they have fixed it. They're indispensable and it's a wonderful thing to have.

I had some issues with my AC unit. I called American Home Shield, They now currently have an actual recording so it speeds up the process, which is great because before, we had to speak to a live person. That was too difficult because the people they had there didn't really know what was going on. So going into more of a recording or an automated thing, it works a lot quicker. I got a response email within minute confirming that I will be contacted within 24-48 hours. Shortly afterwards, the contractor contacted me. They were out the next day and assessed the problem.
However American Home Shield doesn't necessarily have control of what contractors to send out. The contractors they send out have not been the best. I don't know if that's the fault of American Home Shield. It's the contractors. I'm not sure how they're compensated but needless to say it takes a few times for them to come out to get the job done. It took a few contractors to come out here. (This one right now is mediocre but they’re the best out of the three sent over.) So I’ve had to call American Home Shield and ask, "Don’t send me this contractor, they were horrible.... Don’t send me this one, they were even worse..." And when I call back to express the issues I had, I don't go to the automated systems, it kicks me to a customer service rep, and for some reason the customer service rep changes from time to time and I don't know if all the information has been documented into the system so that you can just pick up and see exactly what happened with a specific claim. There's a lot of miscommunication.

We filed a claim for our oven. We've been out of the country and our daughter stayed at home and the oven was not working. She didn't know she can call in. When we came back we called American Home Shield. The repairman came, looked at it and ordered the part. We were satisfied with the service that was provided. It was prompt. Their repairman was very knowledgeable in what he came in to do and even repaired the door because it was not completely closing. He went over and beyond our expectations. Inside unit was freezed up. There was a leak inside the unit and it started dripping on the floor. It wasn’t giving us any problems a whole lot prior that so at first we thought maybe this is an isolated incident. But as it started getting worse and worse, it’s gonna mess our floor, so we had to get someone to come and look at it.
I didn't have any problem submitting the claim. I filed them the claim, told them what was the situation, and when the heating and cooling air technician arrived he knew exactly what I needed. I had that contractor in the past when they did the outside unit years ago and they were very good. They came out and explained the situation. They let me know what actions or steps need to be taken to fix the situation and they would take care of it with American Home Shield. They have great customer service and never again had they have to come back for a same incident or a recurring incident. They do exactly what they promised to do and I'm happy with that.
I have no problem with AHS either and would definitely refer them to friends. Because when I get claims submitted, I don't have a bunch of backlash. I know exactly what's gonna be covered, what's not covered, and what they're gonna do. They keep me posted on a part when it comes in, when the technician should be out to handle the situation. Because the technician gets back with them and the technician gets back to me as well to let me know when they were coming out after getting the part from American Home Shield.

I have American Home Shield for my four houses. My recent claim was for the air conditioning unit in my personal house. Joe Cool was the name of the company that serviced it and the guy was excellent. But I actually replaced the whole air conditioning system because I've had it forever. They weren't going to pay for it and it's an old system. I just replaced it before it breaks down for good. Years ago, American Home Shield has this program where they give a little money towards a whole new system or refrigerator or whatever you had covered. It's like an upgrade system so they don't have to be out there fixing it every six to eight months. They don't do it anymore but I think they should because more people would probably replace things then. But I would definitely and absolutely recommend it to a friend. They have been very good for years.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for my washing machine. It wasn't wringing the clothes out. I called and they scheduled me to have somebody come out. They came out within about 3 days. The service guy looked at it and said he could repair it but if the drum was the problem, there could be more wrong with it and he would just have to come back out. They have what they called the buyout and since it was a 15-year-old washing machine, he said that it would be better that I have it replaced. He said they'll pay me so much toward a new one so that's what I did. They said I would need to purchase one and provide them with the sales receipt and they would send me the amount of money that they allow for the replacement of the washing machine. I renewed my contract with AHS because of the new additions under their policy. They've added a lot of things that they cover so they made the plan much better. I was contemplating on switching before but now I'm going to stay because of the change. Having their service is worth the money. I recommended AHS to a friend.

My dishwasher wasn't working properly. The contractor came and did something. It worked right one time then it quit working. During the second time, they changed something and it didn't work properly so they came out for the third time and replaced something else. It worked a lot better but it did not fix what was wrong. It still does not clean the dishes. What I use is the liquid in a little plastic baggie. It does not melt that. So the water’s not getting hot. The dishwasher goes through about eleven gallons of water minimum and it shows on the controls that the hot water element should be heating it up, but it’s not doing its job as it should.
The repairmen who came out were all fantastic, except for one named Mohammad. He did his job but he wasn’t as good as all the other guys. My dishwasher protruded about two inches at the bottom and he was gonna leave it like that, and he did. And when he left, I shut the door and noticed the bottom of the dishwasher was swinging two inches and I didn’t know what was wrong. I thought it was gonna fall out of the cavity where it’s installed at. I called him back and he came back and put a screw in the very bottom but it still protruded an inch. He could have pushed it in and made it a lot more in line. If it protrudes, it looks junky looking...
This is the first bad experience I’ve had with AHS. But in general it is a very good company and it does a really good job. The contractors are first class and I am happy with everything. I still have a broken dishwasher but overall it is a good deal. I thought seriously about even renewing with them. However if it was my business, I would have looked at the age of the dishwasher and if one repair has not fixed it, I would just replace the thing. They could have said, "Look, Mr. Davis, yours is 15 years old. We've put $250 in it so far and it still don’t work. Why don’t we just write you a check for whatever replacement would be and let’s just call it a done deal." They spent about $1,000 trying to fix this thing and it still don’t work. Now what that has done was it took my Saturdays waiting on a repairman four times. It took away my day off. It was a big waste of time and I don’t have time like that to waste.

When I had a few questions, I called them. I was able to reach the operators okay. They tried to help as much as they could, but the contractors themselves were the ones that were giving me trouble. The first two contractors they set me up with were garbage, but the third one was great. They tried really well, but those contractors they did set me up with, they should probably downgrade them on their list. And the one that finally worked on my air conditioner, they should raise him on their list. They should screen their contractors a little better. After the 3rd contractor repaired the air-conditioner, it’s been perfect. My experience with American Home Shield was great. As long as they listen to customer feedback on the contractors and try to take that into account whenever they set people up with contractors and future customers, they've done a great job.

Sears was designated as the repair service so they contacted me and came out. The contractor was absolutely wonderful. He was very proficient and knowledgeable about the situation. He explained it to me in terms that I can understand and he showed me what went wrong and what needed to be replaced and he was able to pull up on his computer the parts that needed to be ordered. He ordered those parts at that time and gave me an estimated delivery date. They called on the day of the delivery and came out the very next day and installed everything and the refrigerator has been running fine.

We submitted our initial claim that our Jenn-air range was not working 5 weeks ago. The first tech came out a week later, said we needed a new control board and panel. He came back the next week and replaced it but it did not fix the problem. He stated he could not fix it and we needed to have a Jenn-air certified tech diagnose and repair the range. He communicated this to AHS. A few days later my husband followed up with AHS and was told they were locating a Jenn-air certified tech to repair our range.
A week later the second tech came out. He could not diagnose the problem and was unwilling to work on the range stating he was concerned about the first tech's work and was unwilling "to work behind him." We spoke to an AHS supervisor who stated that a request would be made for the first tech to come back out and if he was unable to repair it that it would be escalated and likely be replaced. We were also told that another dept may contact us because of the second tech stating the first tech complicated the problem rendering it unrepairable. The first tech came back out a week later, not to repair our range, but to get pictures and info to demonstrate he did not further damage the range.
At this point this is my 4th day of missed work to address this issue as the techs do not give a time but half of day window you must be available. A case manager contacts me to tell me our only option is to contact a Jenn-air certified tech, pay out of pocket and be reimbursed. She stated they do not have Jenn-air certified techs despite our being told that the second tech was Jenn-air certified. I express concern about the length of time of repair and being without a range, multiple miscommunications, time missed out of work, and the financial burden of paying out of pocket when I am paying for a warranty so, "when breakdowns happen to a covered item, you don't have to fret about unexpected costs and repair hassles." I explained that my husband would contact her to discuss our concerns and next steps. Since that call, one week ago, we have left multiple messages for her and two different supervisors with no response back. Very dissatisfied and looking into what steps we need to take next to address our concerns with the company and their service.

I told him to look at it because it was still gushing water out and there's another sound that comes out of my sink when the water runs out, and it tosses up in the bottom of the sink. The only thing I don't like about American Home Shield is the fact that sometimes my finances get to be a burden. I'm by myself and it used to be $55. I've never had a problem with American Home Shield, ever, ever. There's one thing I hate though. I don't like that they just automatically debit my account. I had a problem this month, called the gentleman and asked him if I could delay this November's payment until next month. He said yes and now I'm afraid that they'll automatically debit and my checks will start bouncing. We had a claim for our air conditioner. It was making a terribly loud noise and I got scared so I called. The contractor was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I had no problem at all when talking to their rep on the phone, too. Since it was fixed, we had no problems. AHS is very convenient.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very nice. I've only had one claim in six months. It was a broken ice cube maker, front door. I called because I wanted ice cubes. Everybody I've ever talked to from American Home Shield has been very nice and very cooperative. The contractor was serious, very professional as they always are and he fixed my machine. He didn't have the part at first but came back the following week or a few days later and got it fixed with no problems, and I lived happily ever after. It's nice that they have a plan like that so you don't have to worry that you have to buy a new appliance.
Nice experience Richard! We appreciate you taking the time to share it with us!

I have been with American Home Shield for over 5 years. Minor repairs on appliances were never a big deal. They have a service fee and can usually get someone out in a few days. Bigger issues were not so easily resolvable. I have a range that that I called about. 2 of the igniters are not working. The range has an oven built in as well. The hinges on the oven door were worn out so the door would not close. Called AHS. Tech came out following week and said 2 igniters need to be replaced and the hinges on the oven need to be replaced. They said it would take time to locate the hinges. AHS called back 2 weeks later. They said that it would take 6 weeks for the hinges to come in. They said that they can order the hinges or give us $218 towards a new range. We had a nice range, and I did not have money to pay the remainder that it would cost to buy a new one. $218 was not going to cover it so I asked that it be fixed.
The tech came out next week and started to remove the oven door and said that they are sending the hinges in so that new ones can be made. I said hold up. What does that mean? AHS told me it would take 6 weeks for the hinges to arrive. They didn't say anything about having new ones made. The tech said those are his instructions. He was going to remove the oven door for 6 week. I would not have a working oven or an oven door for that matter for 6 weeks. So I cannot use it. I said this is ridiculous. Called AHS back and they said that is the way it is. Will be switching companies.

I am now being told 5 months after premium was paid that I owe 38.00 in taxes??? Paid in full means paid in full! Do not use AHS. It has been such a headache. I have been told numerous times how apologetic they are yet they still tell me I owe 38.00. I will also be writing my bank who unfortunately recommended this company to me.
Hi Trisha after reviewing your contract, I can see where the confusion came in. We apologize for the experience that you have received. My experience with them has been excellent. I enjoy and like what they did. They sent someone out fast. I told them what my problem was when the person did come but it wasn't done the first time. I had called the people who I dealt with but they told me to call American Shield up first and they will send them back out, and they did. I like the second man that they sent out than the first. The first one was kind but he didn't do the detailed job done. The second one did.
A friend recommended AHS to me, and I would recommend them too. Before my unemployment ran out and I didn't have any money to pay my bill, American Home Shield was wonderful. My hot water heater stopped functioning. The power light would not relight. I called in, provided my information, told them what the problem was, and they got back to me within 12 to 14 hours by email with a service provider. Repairmen showed up on time and were extremely courteous. They put on protective boots so they would not track any dirt or any issues into the house and onto the carpet. They diagnosed what the issue was and then called the vendor who makes the water heater since there was a part on the hot water heater that needed to be replaced in order for it to work properly. They needed to get a replacement part at noon, ordered it, and it arrived at my home. I gave them a call and they were back the next day to install it. Haven't had any issues with the water heater since then.

I have no trouble with American Home Shield. Our experience has been very good. I'm a real estate agent and I sell them everyday. It's terrific. We had a local girl here yesterday at the office and got our latest updates so we're fine with it. The latest claim that we filed was the air conditioner that went out so I made a call. There were several ones that have come to the house before that we do not like so we had to wait for the one guy that we wanted. AHS offered to give us a night out at a hotel. We didn't take it because we were getting home each night late and figured that we can just tough it for one more night. They came out, fixed the problem and we had no problem since. The contractor was perfect and clean. He gets right on to it, tells us what's happening and fixes it, and out he goes. I'd renew with them again. It's something that we believe in and my children have it on their homes too. Customers and clients of ours have it also so it's something I would highly recommend.

Amy ** with AHS is the first person to listen and understand. Thank you for identifying the issue and replacing this unit.
Original Review: Nov. 6, 2014
AHS installed a unit designed for a rooftop application. The unit installed was missing parts, no protection of coils (no guards at all). The unit was faded and documentation attached to unit was faded and had water damage. It was obvious unit was old or refurb or something. Screws missing on top of unit installed. I took pictures and pointed out the unit was designed to be installed on a rooftop not ground level residential. Unit broke within days, had to have parts installed to fix. I desire unit to be removed as is inappropriate install and appears as used or old unit. Have over 150 calls to AHS still no resolution in 6 months.

I have been an AHS customer for over ten years with a history of good experiences. However, all that changed this past summer. During the hottest part of the Florida August, my central air stopped working. I called AHS to request service and told them I have a geothermal AC unit to make sure the tech that came out was familiar with this type of equipment. They agreed. When the local company called me to schedule the service call, I again mentioned the type of system. They assured me all their techs were qualified. When the tech arrived and saw the unit he said he was not very familiar with geothermal units. He opened a panel and after using a volt or amp meter, started undoing and reconnecting wires. He then replaced a transformer. Nothing worked. He then went to the thermostat and again pulled wires, then replaced them. Still nothing. He then said this beyond what he could do and left.
I called AHS and related what happened. Again mentioned the type of unit and again was told they would pass it along. When the service company called for the appt. I also mentioned the unit. When the tech arrived, I explained what the previous guy had done. The 2nd guy also used a voltage meter, checked the breaker box and determined the circuit breaker was bad. It now became an electrical problem so the HVAC company bowed out until an electrician would come out.
Called AHS requesting this be expedited as the heat and especially the humidity were starting to affect my home. Almost 5 days passed before the electrician came out and replaced the breaker. In my next call to AHS I was finally able to speak to a supervisor (customer reps apparently are instructed NOT to transfer calls to Sups). ** was very sympathetic and promised to remove my fee and expedite the service call. By now, there was mold appearing on my walls.Again, back to the HVAC company. Their 3rd guy came out and said he had only seen a geothermal unit once before. By the way, these units, although not overly common, are used in this part of Florida. So this tech also opens the panel and after calling someone for directions also disconnects and reconnects
wires. After a couple of hours with no progress he said there was nothing more he could do.
By the time I called AHS I was livid. It was now 15 days since my 1st call. Mold was spreading, furniture being ruined and the daily temperature in the high 90s. I had the misfortune of speaking with Ebony, a particularly unhelpful rep. I asked that another HVAC company and she refused. When the service guy called to make the appt. my 1st question was regarding his knowledge of this type of of AC. Right after he told he had never seen one I told him not to bother coming. In my next call to AHS Ebony again answered, again would not transfer me to a supervisor. Instead, she put me on a 3 way call with the service company. A manager told me he would send his very best man out.
The 4th HVAC guy came out, did some trouble-shooting, replaced the thermostat, and the AC was on. In his report he wrote, "Found system not wired right. After I rewired found bad thermostat. System is now cooling and heating upon departure". Conclusion: From the start, the problem was nothing more than a bad breaker. Each time a different tech came out and messed with the wires, they made the problem worse.
I had to call a cleaning service for my walls and furniture (one antique piece had the veneer detach from the humidity). Had to throw out pillows, food, clothes, and other items. Repeated calls and messages for supervisors (and even an e-mail to the CEO) have gone unanswered. To add insult to injury, they're still billing me for a service call. Needless to say, I am shopping around for a new home warranty company. Something changed - not for the better - with the AHS I first contracted over 10 years ago.
We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and we value your loyalty. The service call fee that you are receiving the notice for is being corrected. Please disregard the notice. Sorry you experienced this after receiving such good service in the beginning. We will forward your feedback to the contracting division, so they can re-evaluate the contractors that were sent out who did not resolve your issue. If you have any additional problems, please let us know.

The girl at American Home Shield was excellent. When I called to file the claim to get someone over to look at the our refrigerator, she said “Let's get Sears on the line" because it was a Sears appliance. The girl at Sears said, "We can't have anybody out to look at it." It's going to be 10 days before they could have somebody out south. Because we were doing a three-way conversation, she told the girl at Sears "Thank you very much" and told me "We'll just get somebody else out." It was 8 o'clock at night and she called another appliance repair in Corpus where I live. She stayed on the line and made sure that we had somebody coming out to our refrigerator and to actually set the appointment for me. I thought that was really nice of her.
Anyway our refrigerator was about 16 years old. When the repairman came out he said "nope, too old to be fixed" and then called American Home Shield. Within the next 24 hours, I got an email asking for the dimensions of the refrigerator and the list of all the things that it had. I sent that to them and they got that email back to me within 24 hours saying “Here's the list of appliances that we can replace it with or you can find something else that you like and we will give you the difference or we will give you the worth that fits your refrigerator (which was $1500)." I wanted to pick out my own so I picked out my own and got it ordered. I sent the invoice to American Home Shield and they actually have the tech to me before the refrigerator was even delivered to my house... It was a really good experience. I was thrilled with it and really impressed, 100% impressed I told everybody about it.

We have an ongoing problem. We are continuing to deal with this AC unit that gives us nothing but trouble. It was supposed to be replaced more than a year ago and it's like putting another bandage and another bandage on a severely wounded person. And everybody is happy except for us every time. Either we run out of AC and sweat to hell or they will come after a short period of time and then put another bandage and then we are good for another month or so and then we are back to square one. If you ask any AC expert, he will tell you that the outside unit is nothing but a junk.
My wife called in this case and they gave her a record number and she'd been contacted or she had to contact the repair person. He couldn't come for four or five days because of heavy load. So we had to scramble and look for a solution being in the house for a few days with no AC. When the contractor came after five days or so and fixed the problem, he told us if it will repeat before the end of 30 days, there will be no another charge of $75 but that's about it. We're not a happy camper. Basically, they are trying to put patches instead of finding the ultimate solution. They are trying to go with the cheapest way that they can go with. It doesn't help the end user.
The service resolution team is being advised of your issue Tzachi. We want to make sure we are doing the right thing. Please allow time for a researcher to look into this service request and reach out to you on today.

I made a service call on October 19, 2014 and a contractor call and scheduled an appointment with and came out on the 20th. They diagnosed the problem and told me they would report it to American Home Shield and they would be contacting me. American Home Shield contacted me the next day and gave me the option to purchase a new washer or have this one replaced. I told them OK I'll get back in touch with them after I speak to my husband and we went out in search of another. I found one at Lowes. I called with the serial number and the rep. told me that I would have to purchase it through them or purchase the item on my own and send the receipt in for a refund. I told them what in the hell is the purpose of a warranty, that's so you won't have to come out of pockets with big lump Sums of money. Then she said, "well your only other option is to get the old 1 fixed."
OK it is now November 5, 2014 and I still Don't have my washer fixed because they never ordered the parts and tried to blame it on the people who are suppose to fix it. I have been with these people since August 2006 and I've never had an appliance to be replaced. So I will be looking for a new home warranty company cause it seems they can only handle minor problems not major ones. I also called to speak to a supervisor on November 4th and yep once again they never called back, they really need to get their ** together and quit taking people's money making all the promises on what they're gonna do and when it comes time, it's all lies.
Karen it looks like parts were ordered for the washer. Sorry for the confusion. I will have a case manager follow up to ensure that once the parts are received, that the contractor returns to complete the necessary repairs.

Our guest house where my daughter loves had a clogged sink, toilet, and shower. We reported the issue October 24th. They sent a tech on the 27th which is quite a delay. He came to do the work and after an hour my daughter had to leave for an appointment....she asked him to call me with his findings as my elderly mother is not mobile and unable to check his work. He went to the main house and told my mother the work was done and all drains were cleared. He collected his money and left. The warranty company called me and said he had cleared the drains but had found evidence of roots so no future work would be covered and that he had shown the homeowner the roots. I asked my mother if he had mentioned roots or shown her anything and she said no. I came home and checked the drains and they were all still clogged exactly as before. I called the warranty company back and told them and they stated they would send someone out for a second opinion and is there were no roots they would fix the issue (which was never addressed originally).
After a week we called them back again (not having any working plumbing still) and they informed us they only had one plumber so they were denying our claim and would not fix the issue. They were zero help and why did it take a week and us calling them to tell us that. I question the overall integrity of them and the plumber since no work was ever completed, so how do we believe that he found roots if he lied about the fix? POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT A MINIMUM!!!
A case manager will be reaching out to you to discuss other possible options. I can see why you would be concerned. Please allow up to 48 hours for a call back.

I am extremely disappointed in American Home Shield. I was told by one of their own repairmen that they will patch up anything and fight hard not to replace anything. He suggested that I put the money I spend on the warranty into an investment fund and have control over what goes into my home. When I do the math, I think he is correct. I have had American Home Shield since I purchased my phone nearly 10 years ago. We have a 16 year old Kenmore dishwasher that is original to the house and they have already serviced it at least twice. This last service call, they determined that the machine needs a new control panel. They ordered the part and when it arrived, it was black. This dishwasher is white. After working with the repair company we determined it is the last control panel for this machine ANYWHERE in the UNITED STATES.
Clearly, we don't want a black panel in the middle of an all white kitchen. They will only give us two options, take the money for the part $243.00 or the black panel. Apparently, READ THE FINE PRINT - they have this clause in our contract. So, they can choose to give us a cosmetically unacceptable part as long as the machine can be made operational. They care more about sticking us with the fine print in the contract than quality customer service. The machine is 16 years old. They no LONGER make the parts to repair a white one. It's clearly a wise decision to replace the machine, but they won't budge.
Our cost to replace the dishwasher, with something comparable is more than $600. Plus installation (because they aren't replacing it they don't have to pay anyone to install the new one) and an installation kit (hose, etc.) of an additional $170. I have no working dishwasher, an unacceptable part option (the last part anywhere) and a warranty that is not willing to budge or work with me. Would it be acceptable to replace a car door with a working door, that just happens to be a different color than the rest of the car? No, it's not.
Do yourself a favor... Invest the money you would spend with AHS and have control over what decisions are being made on your behalf. Or buy the warranty on the actual appliance from the store (like HH Gregg or Best Buy). Many of those policies have a lemon law policy and they will replace anything after the 3rd service request.
American Home Shield will gladly take your money, but they don't care about customer service, customer loyalty or making smart decisions. We weren't even able to get a supervisor to return our calls. We would be happy to split the cost of the new machine and installation (at a minimum). What they are offering is ridiculous. They will have to replace this machine when the next part goes any how because they don't make them anymore. Why not work with people who have been loyal to you. Let the next customer who needs the black part have it. Let us have the new machine.
Disgruntled and disappointed.
Hi Nicole, a case manger will be in contact with you shortly to help resolve the issue with your dishwasher. Thanks for making us aware of this.

We’ve been American Home Shield customers for like 6 years now. We’ve had a few off and on minor things. But our first major thing is when we had a problem with our refrigerator. In the lower part of our refrigerator, there are a few containers and those are getting very, very cold - getting to freeze level. So we reported those containers and we called up Home Shield to ask for their help with that. The first repair person that came in ordered for a motherboard but he didn’t seem to be that knowledgeable. The next time we had the person who was very knowledgeable and he installed it. And then the motherboard didn’t do the job. So, the person who came in second time ordered another part. It was some kind of hinges. He came in a fourth time to do the installation. So, he actually was the one who completed the thing, and now everything’s working fine. It took a few minutes, but we were grateful that Home Shield was helpful in getting the problem solved.
We appreciate your feedback, Saqib! We aim to provide the best home warranty options and are delighted to hear we've achieved that with you. We've submitted claims with American Home Shield for our appliances. One of them was for the microwave. You can't tell how many minutes to cook or heat something. The timer wasn't working. Another one was for my oven or my cook top because all the flames weren't coming on and off the holes of the center burner and there's a problem with the led light on the oven panel. Contractor came on time and figured out what he needed for the parts and then he called American Home Shield to get the approval. He left the house and then the parts came in a week after and he made another contact and appointment and then he came in and fixed it. Since the repair, the microwave has been working well and the LED on the oven is working very well.
Their representatives are always pleasant and they work very well. The only one problem I had is at the very beginning, which is through advertising, some things aren't covered or they have a hard time covering it. But once you're a consumer and you've moved in, it goes almost flawlessly. It's a great peace of mind if you don't know what you're doing and you don't want to budget it chunks of change every year.

After being a loyal customer of American Home Shield for years, we called 3 days ago regarding our steam heat not working properly. We were told that someone would contact us within 24 hours. Strike one: No one called. We called the company that was assigned to repair our problem only to find out that due to our home being "too far East", they only have repair visits between the hours of 10am and 2pm. Strike two: (my husband and I both work and can't take off a full day) We called American Home Shield to notify them of the issue and request a company be assigned that can offer us a morning/evening/Saturday visit. We were willing to take a 1/2 day off of work to accommodate the time. We were told by Theresa, in Authorization, that she could do nothing for us and we needed to make ourselves available as part of our contract. Strike three: for horrendous customer service.
I asked to speak with a manager and was told that no one was available and it wouldn't matter anyway, we would be told to take the day off. I was then transferred to Shalonda, who at least attempted to listen to our concerns. Shalonda agreed with her counterpart and only offered us the option to cancel the work order. I asked Shalonda if she had listened to the on hold message which states, "a technician will be assigned to make a house call at a MUTUALLY CONVENIENT time". It was clear Shalonda had to follow the same script as Theresa. It is more cost effective to call a repairman privately and have this fixed. We will not be renewing our contract next year and if asked by friends, family, or strangers, I would tell them all to save their money. This company appears to be a scam and finds a way to have you not get the service you paid for. The company can't even get the repair person to your house to tell you your problem isn't covered!
After reading similar reviews, it appears the only way to have a person with actual customer service experience contact you is to post your personal experience online. Here's hoping! If I do get a call and this is made right, I will post again to let you all know. PS - This problem was 'fixed' not even a year ago. As of this moment, Customer Service: Negative, if it were possible. Value: Zero or negative if you add in the time spent trying to get a human on the phone. Coverage: Good luck with that.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make things right. A case manager will reach out to you concerning this matter. However, we do not set appointments so if the request is passed along to the next contractor, we would hope that they work with your schedule for your convenience.

I opened a ticket with home shield early this week to fix a plumbing issue. They assigned a contractor and the contractor called me next day and offered me on another day to come and look at the issue. He was not open with his availability. I called the customer service at American Shield to look into someone else who can be more accommodative. The agent refused to reassign the work to someone. Basically her approach was to take it or leave it. I have signed a contract with American Shield for a year and I don't know if I can cancel it and take my money back. I feel like I wasted my time and money with them.
Hi your concern with wanting a different contractor is important to us. I would be more than happy to have a case manager call you if you would like assistance. Please provide us with more information so that we can reach out to you. Thank you.

My most recent claim was with my water heater. It started leaking. Basically, I just called in so submitting the claim was easy. I didn't use the website because it's a little hard to navigate on the American Home Shield website. I called in and the representative took the claim and immediately submitted it. Fast and easy. Everybody was professional. The contractors explained the issues real good and I was very pleased. Since the repair it's been great. I didn't need to call back in to get the inspection done. I'm thankful that I got American Home Shield. They've been a real help, making me feel that all of the appliances were running whenever I needed them to be.

Beginning on 8/19 I have had technicians at my home for my microwave/oven combo 9 times. I have had to take off of work for each of these visits and have at least one more to go because my microwave currently has no door. For each of these problems, there have been at least two visits, one diagnostic and one reparative, and on at least one service request the parts were received broken, requiring a third visit: fan motor making noise, control panel not functioning properly, door switches not registering properly, door not closing properly. Keep in mind, the repair guys have been super nice, friendly, professional and helpful, and have only done what AHS has instructed them to do.
Today, 11/4, I finally called AHS myself to ask for a supervisor to intervene. Olivia in customer "service" told me "That's not going to happen." After 15 minutes on the phone with her, I handed her to the technician who recommended that the appliance not be continued to be repaired, but who admitted that the individual problem was once again repairable. Olivia said he had to repair it. I requested a supervisor again and was given to **, Authorization Supervisor. I explained that I have lost at least a thousand dollars in lost work time and that I was very unhappy with the judgement calls made thus far. He spoke to the technician and even though two of the newly necessary parts are no longer available, ** instructed the tech that he needed to "do research" to see if there was another part that could be used or if the repair could just be done without the NLA parts.
After talking to me for 7 minutes and having me beg him to stop making me take off work, ** still did made this judgement call. They've put more into this appliance in time and parts than it would have cost to just call it dead and be done with it. Never mind that if they do just say "replace it" they're only on the hook for a maximum of $3000. This is how they treat their customers. They are cheap and don't give a damn about the customer.
Hi Joy, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have a case manager reviewing this service request issue. They will be contacting you shortly on today. We apologize for the inconvenience. We rely on the technicians to tell us what the best solution is to a failure on a covered item. Sometimes we give the customer options when there are multiple repairs. Your case manager will be contacting you with resolution.

I love having American Home Shield but don't like that they raised their deductible. I've had them out a few times and like the response time that I get. It's very quick and easy. I've actually brought them up to a lot of people.
Laura, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. We look forward to providing you and those you've recommended with the service you desire.

I called American Home Shield because water started coming up in the house and we didn't know why. The representative on the phone was very nice and he told me he would help me with it and he did. He took all my information down and then they came out and checked everything. I know the contractor. He's very nice (everybody knows everybody in this small town here) and he said, “What's going on?” I said, “The water's backing up.” He said, “Let me go and take a look.” He went around the house and checked all the lines then he took my husband out there and he said, “This is the cause of it. Always make sure that you completely turned it off." It was a water shutoff valve on the back near the house. I was afraid maybe it was a busted line or something inside the house but it wasn't. So there were actually no repairs. Anyway, they're terrific. They are very, very nice people, very courteous and very understanding. Like right now I always call them to tell them "I'm going to pay this..." and they say "okay just make sure the payment is in.”

My experience with American Home Shield is usually very good but I had one bad experience that left a sour taste in my mouth. Usually when I call in for repairs, I get someone on the phone and set it up. The people who come out, no problem. But I called one time and got their automated system. I called about a problem with 2 of my three bathrooms and I wanted them to check all 3. The automated system evidently set up the order for one bathroom. The people who came out checked one bathroom which was not the broken one. They checked the good one and all they did was put a snake through the toilet. It took $75.
I was at work and I left my daughter. The other toilets didn't get fixed. They said, "Well, the order just said one." I said, "No, that's not what I said when I set it up on the automated system." So I was real kind of ticked about that because I wouldn't have paid $75 for him to put a snake down through my bowl and the bathroom that needed to be fixed was the main one upstairs and I've never had this problem before. If I had been home I wouldn't have given them $75. But otherwise, the experience has been great. It's just that I paid $75 for that and didn't get the service that I paid for.

It was in the end of August, first part of September. I was washing my clothes in the washing machine and all of a sudden my toilet bowl kept gurgling up, that's never happened before. So I called American Home Shield to find out if I was covered with that and they said, “Yes, you are. I'll have a plumber call you”. They were on it immediately. They called this plumber. He came out. He looked at it and said, “It looks like you got a blockage there so we'll unblock it and it should work." He undid that, snaked it, he called and he then said we’re all ready to go. So I said ok. September the 2nd my son and daughter-in-law flew in from St. Lewis. She took a shower and she went to go to the bathroom and everything backed up. It wouldn't even come out. So I called again and they said it's still covered under warranty. I called them back and they came out and they snaked it again.
I haven't had any problems since then but I was disappointed when they first came out because I felt like the first time the guy came out it was like “I'm in a hurry. I got to get this fast”. But the second time he took care of it, no problems so I'm with it and I'm pleased with AHS. They took care of the problem and were right on top of it. They even called me or did an email to find out how it was. So I’d recommend them. I even told my son I have this insurance, it’s the best insurance. Everybody should have that. I don't know why anybody would not pay that amount of money every month to have something like that that's going to help you like that.

I had a claim with the air conditioner on my rental home. The problem was reported to me by my tenant. I've pretty much called the service the day after my tenant told me about it. I've had this same issue every two years and every time I've used American Home Shield to come and service it. I generally try to do the filing online, but sometimes the website doesn't work so then I have to call in.
Everything went perfectly fine and smoothly. I asked them to give me like a 4 hour window and if they could give me a call when they're 20 or 30 minutes out. They were definitely amenable to that, so I appreciate it. And then the service showed up on time and did its thing. Quality and reliable service.
Quality and reliable service is important! It is a good thing that your tenant received great service on this rental property of yours Brian. We are glad that we could take care of your warranty needs! We will work on improving the company website. Thank you for the feedback!

I called American Home Shield yesterday to complain about one of the vendors that they sent. I asked them to send me another vendor out because I didn't think this was a good quality vendor. They said they could not do that, it's computer generated. I've had stuff over the years but I don't have any problem with American Home Shield. I've had a couple of outlets that needed to be replaced and the guy that came in here, his work is great, excellent, over and above. I would have preferred him to come back but they said "No, we got a different appliance man." Overall, American Home Shield is fine.

We had our central air conditioning go down on us in July, on a Thursday night, and they couldn't get anyone out here till Monday afternoon, but that's normal. All I could do is complain, but any other company would do the same thing. In actuality, they all did a good job and it's well worth the money.

I’ve always been pleased with the service at American Home Shield. Every time I called, they either send somebody out the same day or next day. When I had problem with my dishwasher, they asked what the problem was and the brand of the dishwasher, gave us some dates when a tech would be available to come out, and went from there. The contractor that came to my house showed his uniform ID to us. He had a good idea of what was going on and showed my wife how to flush the line. Haven’t had problem with it after that. It was good experience.

My most recent claim was in August and it was an issue with our washing machine. It was making a really, really loud sound. So we called American Home Shield and had them come out. They sent someone from Sears over to look at it, and upon diagnosis, they determined it needed several repairs: a new drum and something else. Long story short, it was about $700 in parts and $90 in labor. The repairs were exceeding in value, so I opted to take advantage of their new cashing program and purchased a new machine. It was great.
I've dealt with them for several years. I've submitted several claims over those years, and I have not had an issue with them at all. Every claim I submitted, they stood by. They replaced two external air conditioning unit and an internal furnace, refrigerator, washer, so they've done a fantastic job. The recent contractor that they sent was great, professional, and friendly. He came dressed in a uniform from Sears so we knew who we were dealing with. He had all the tools and knew why he was there, was familiar with the product line as well as some of the known issues. He's well trained in his job. They do what they say they would do. I swear by them and will recommend them to anyone.

We filed a claim to American Home Shield for a stove repair. The burners were starting not to work right and eventually we had two of them that weren't working so I had to call it in. I just gave a call and they set it up with the people and within a couple days, they were here. We had a very good experience with their claims rep. They were very professional and just handled everything the way I would expect it to be handled. The contractor they sent was pleasant, came in and did what he needed to do. However, the stove started acting up again and I didn't call in time within my warranty time. So that was my fault, I should have called them back in time. But it wasn't quite right. They had fixed part of it, but not the whole thing. But overall I've been pleased with the service and the promptness, and I'm glad I have them. I've recommended them to others. It's a good value and provide good protection.

Let's see, repairman came to my home - this was second time for my ac unit. AHS sent them. While at my home I questioned my heat works right, he says to me "yup turned it on, it smelled horrible." He claims it is normal. Ok I took his word for it....he leaves. Well few days later we get a freeze warning so like anyone I go to turn on my heat since the outside temperature was in the low 40s. I wait about a hour, not any warmer in my home. I go to my vents, cold air is coming out. I call AHS. This is Friday and they said "we will expedite this call and get someone out there." Saturday comes, called again - "oh let me have a supervisor call you." He calls to say "let me go to dispatch and see what's going on. I will call you in 20 min." Still freezing, no call. I call again Saturday night, now over 18hrs since first call. I get told, "well we have it in here, we are looking for a company to come out, it should be soon." Sunday - still no call, no repair.
I call now over 28hrs since first call. I get told "dispatch is looking for someone, that's all we can do. No I can't ask a supervisor to call since a request was done yesterday, I would have to email that person and ask them to do it again. But dispatch is looking for a company for you." Oh and wait, girl tells me how she has no heat at home either so she can relate. Here it is Sunday night going into lower 20s, I'm elderly disabled - no heat, no call. I try calling one more time. "Oh well yes, this is a recall for the company to come back out, I can try and put a call in to them and see if they will come out, it could be up to 24 hrs before they do." Excuse me it's been well over 24 hrs since I called. I'm freezing and still nobody has called or came to even look at it. This company cares nothing for their customers, each one you speak with has a different excuse. Stay away from them, you are better off calling a outside source to fix it considering they say you can do that but as others have stated on here once you do they don't cover what you have done.
