Had a problem with my furnace. I reported the problem and the AHS rep I spoke with was polite & professional. They gave me an appointment and the folks came out and fixed it. They replaced the furnace. They have good service so I've been happy with American Home Shield. Otherwise, I wouldn't renew my contract every year.

It's been good every time I've called Home Shield. Our hot water heater and the relief valve was leaking so I called AHS. The contractor came to the house, I went out and greeted him and he knew basically what I had told Home Shield was wrong. So he came down and looked at the units and said that he needs to replace the valve. He went out to his truck, got the valve, put it in, and he was done in less than an hour. This is my 4th home that I've had with them and I've never had any problems at all. Although there was one contractor in Alabama that Home Shield had that I had to call them about. But they got them out there, riding around with an air conditioner unit in the back of his truck instead of bringing it to the house. AHS have always done what they said they would do.

We recently called American Home Shield about our AC unit. Water was coming from a spill in the attic instead of out of the drain. The drip pan was overflooded. The representative that I talked to over the phone was very professional. He got somebody out as quick as he could. The contractor was also good and he explained what he was gonna do as well as what was the cause of it, and he took care of it. It all worked out really good.

AHS is a great company and exactly what you want when you buy a home warranty. When our air conditioner died, we called AHS and they sent somebody to look at it. The technician figured it was the condenser. Since we bought an older house, the air conditioning was also an older system and we understand what its lifespan should be. I said to the technician, “Let me ask you a question. By doing this and the repair, am I just delaying the inevitable? Am I just putting lipstick on a pig?” He said “Well, to be honest, kind of yeah. It’s an old system.” So I called American Home Shield and I said, I called American Home Shield and we came up with a win-win situation that we end up buying a new system and they refund us for the condenser. They're awesome!

In the beginning of January we started having issues with our GE Profile refrigerator. The freezer would stop working causing the items in it to defrost. We contacted the customer service number and were told we would be contacted in two business days to schedule an appointment for service. We were contacted within those two business days by the company that would be preforming the service call. They informed us the earliest appointment they had was 2 weeks away. We accepted the appointment not knowing that AHS's policy states they only have two days to resolve the issues after calling us.

The following week our freezer completely stopped working. Naturally, we lost a lot of food due to the lack of a functioning refrigerator. We contacted to customer service number once again to speak with a representative about the issues. We informed them we were scheduled for the service call the following Tuesday and that was the earliest the company could come out. The representative informed us that we should have received a call to schedule two business days later and that the issues was to be resolved two business days following the call to schedule. We informed the representative that this was never told to us and that because we were unaware of this we accepted the appointment. The representative was able to get an emergency call scheduled for us and they were to contact us to schedule a time.

We asked the representative about being reimbursed for the food that had gone bad that we had to throw out. They informed us they would turn our information over to someone else and they would be contacting us. We never received any correspondence from this group. We never received a phone call informing us of the time frame for our service call. Instead, we received a call from the tech telling us he would be at our house within thirty minutes. We both work and do not work close enough to make it home within that time frame and informed the service man that it would be at least an hour before either one of us could get home. He told us that was fine, that he would see us in an hour.

Breanna was able to make it home within forty-five minutes after receiving the phone call and remained at home the rest of the afternoon. The service man showed up close to three hours after she arrived home. When he came in, he did not remove his shoes or place booties on his feet, instead walked on our carpet with his dirty shoes. After looking at the refrigerator, he noticed that a part had gone bad and was able to exchange it out then and there. When he looked at the computer unit to make sure the temperatures were set correctly he noticed it was malfunctioning. He informed Breanna that he would have to order the part and come back to install it. Once the service man left, Breanna noticed he left all of the wire clippings on the floor under the refrigerator and in the floor around it. We have a two year old that puts things in his mouth, this is a huge safety risk and should have been cleaned up instead of being left.

Later that week, Joey received an email from American Home Shield stating "It has been determined that your refrigerator is non-repairable and will be replaced under the terms of your contract. Included are the details on the suggested model replacement for your refrigerator which has similar features to your current unit."

We had limited options on what we could choose to do. One of which was to select a different refrigerator and pay the difference between the one sent to us by American Home Shield and the one we choose. We selected a different one that was actually cheaper than the one suggested to us. The one we proposed was a GE Profile series instead of a GE Caf. The reason we suggested GE Profile was because that was what was already in our home. We were then informed it would be $905.26 for us to order that refrigerator. We then started researching the model number that was suggested to us due to not wanting to pay more money for a refrigerator that was less expensive. We attempted to look at the refrigerator in person but no stores carried it.

This forced us to look at it online. When viewing an appliance online, it is very difficult to see if it is something a person would like in their home. Even though it is possible to enlarge the pictures, it is not the same as seeing it in person. We reluctantly agreed to the one suggested since there was no compromising with American Home Shield.

We were contacted by the delivery group and informed the delivery would take place on a Friday. Breanna called and asked to reschedule on Saturday due to both of us working full time. The delivery company informed us that it would be delivered between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM that Saturday and we would receive a call thirty minutes before delivery. At 2:45 PM, we had not heard from anyone about the delivery of our refrigerator. Breanna called the delivery company and was told they did not know what was going on with our refrigerator that they would call us back to let us know. After waiting forty five minutes, someone finally called us back. They informed us that the refrigerator was placed on a different truck that was not working that day. They said they were unsure what happened that they would contact Breanna on Monday when they got back into the office to investigate what happened.

When Breanna did not receive a phone call by late Monday afternoon, she called the delivery company to find out what happened to our refrigerator. Teresa, a representative from the delivery company, informed Breanna that the refrigerator had been placed on a truck Friday morning for delivery but didn't make it back to their warehouse until Monday of the following week. Breanna asked where the refrigerator was while it was not at their warehouse. She was informed that the drivers have their own trucks and that they take them home when they are not working.

Teresa then said she would reschedule delivery for the following Saturday. Breanna asked if she was sure it would be delivered, undamaged, and the correct refrigerator since who knows what happened to it while it was not in the warehouse and at the driver house. She was told everything would be fine and there would be no issues with it. They scheduled the appointment for Saturday and it would be the first delivery of the day.

We were extremely unhappy with the entire process in which we had gone through so far and called the customer service line to speak with a supervisor. Breanna was told there was not a direct way for the representative to transfer her to the supervisor but they would put in a request for one to call her and also allow her to leave a voice mail. We waited twenty-four hours for a phone call back and never received one. Breanna once again called the customer service line and spoke with a representative. They informed her that they put another request in for a supervisor to contact her back as soon as possible.

When the supervisor finally called back, Breanna was in a meeting for work and unable to answer the phone. She later called the number that was provided back and left a message asking for a return call including her work number so the supervisor would be able to reach her. It is now a week and a half later and we have still not received a call back from the supervisor.

On Saturday, the refrigerator was delivered first thing to the house. It was covered with black streaks and glue. It took us close to an hour to completely clean it up and while we were cleaning we noticed differences in the refrigerator from the one we were told we would receive. The model numbers did not match: CNS23SSHSS was the model we were supposed to receive and CNS23SSHAFSS was the model that was dropped off. When I called customer service I was informed that the purchasing department was who I needed to speak with. I was also informed that they were closed on the weekends, and that the representative would leave them a message stating we received the wrong model number. I told the AHS representative it now looks like we have a cheap refrigerator in a $400,000 house and that does not match any of the other appliances in our house.

On the following Monday morning, Breanna contacted the department and was informed the only thing we would be able to do is file a written report that there was nothing they were able to do since the refrigerator was delivered. When I was contacted later that afternoon, I spoke to the representative and told her it now looks like we have a cheap refrigerator in a $400,000 house and that any of the other appliances in our house. I was also told the only way to resolve the issue with the unsatisfactory refrigerator was to file a complaint via mail.

Breanna also called the delivery company to find out if they knew anything about the model numbers not matching. Breanna was informed that the model number to the refrigerator we received was pulling up as a part and not a refrigerator when she searched it in her data base. The delivery representative said the model number on the box was the one American Home Shield had said would be delivered. We never saw the box for the fridge at the time of the delivery and we did not receive the instruction manual for the new fridge. The only things we received were the product registration flyer and the filter insert. We have sent a letter to the complaint department on 2/23/2015 and are waiting to hear from them.

It is very convenient and instead of paying the full price payment of every repairs, plumbing or electrical that I need I pay only the deductible so it's very helpful. However, sometimes the vendors are not available. Because the people were not available they’re not getting back to me and I have had to wait a couple of times. Eventually, they have fixed the problem though the guarantee time of 48-hour response has not been met in a couple of times.

My furnace is making a noise. Something is wrong with the motor. It is wobbling or it is loose. So I called it in and the technician came. He looked at it and said the motor is wobbling and needs to be replaced. When he called American Home Shield, they said "no the furnace actually has to be broken before we can do anything with the motor". So what it meant is that this motor noise is not going out. It is still not being attended because the technician still has not come. Now the only thing that can happen is the motor is going to get worse, either it will catch fire or it will just shut down when the temperature is minus 40 degrees. And then I will have a conversation with AHS again. I hope they can imagine my frustration right now.

I had seen on Facebook one of the people I knew was talking about American Home Shield - how it's a great policy to have for your home. So I looked at the AHS website - at that time, our drier wasn't working - and I thought nothing's to be lost by trying it. I called the company and they talked us through the process of applying for their policy. After we get it all done the next day, the repair company called and came out the day after that. I was really happy with their service because it wasn't anything really major - I have a feeling if I had called any other appliance repair would have soaked us for a whole lot more money. My dishwasher also decided to die so I put that in as well for a claim - it turned out to be the control board panel. The representative that AHS sent out showed me how he tested it and said we'll have to order the part and that it might take a week or two. But it took only about four days!

The repair people we've had have been phenomenal - honest, very clean, and explained everything to us. My husband and I were talking in general about the very fast service that you get with American Home Shield. In fact I've talked to quite a few of my friends and even my daughter in Texas, and told them AHS is something to look into. I really trust American Home Shield - I've never had a problem with them, never had to wait forever and a day to get a repairman out here, and I don't feel like they're doing something that isn't necessary just to get paid.

Worst Company Ever. I have had AHS for many years ~ but no longer. I was on hold 1 hour and 20 minutes this time only to get a representative who hung up on me. (FRAN) In order for Fran to solve the issue some research had to be conducted on my account and she told me due to high call volume someone would need to call me back and I said no ~ I have waited 1 hour and 20 minutes myself, I deserve to be taken care of. The heater isn't working again. I was having yet another air/heating unit problem (3 service calls in the last couple of weeks) and at least 10-15 service calls on the unit itself (of which I paid $75 each time). That is A LOT of money (along with the monthly fee).

Anyways, I am in my 30 days since the last heater repair and according to the rules I shouldn't have to pay for this recall ~ however Fran says I owe $225 in service fees and she cannot dispatch a technician until paid. I ask Fran "How can that be?" On my last call I owed $150 (supposedly for 2 previous service calls). Now, I paid the service bill (for sure) and a technician came out and fixed the heater (again). Now remember they won't dispatch a technician if you owe a service bill. How did I go from $0 to $225 when I haven't called? Fran said it would take some time to research ~ I said OK this needs to be resolved ~ she hung up. I called back and was disconnected after 45 minutes. I am calling again.

If this was the first time this has happened I would be more patient, but it happens every time. Once I had a plumbing issue and the technician said I had a broken line $20,000 to $30,000. I called another company who snaked out the drain. I paid their service technician a service fee and AHS said I didn't pay ~ so along with paying twice in service fees, I also paid another plumber who snaked out the drain. I have many other plumbing stories and air/heater stories too. Now AHS will never send you a bill God forbid a customer have anything in writing from this company. Isn't that part illegal? You can't charge someone a bill and not be in writing? Right? I guess the question here is why did I put up with them for so long? No Longer and I will dig through all my phone records and bank statements and credit card payments and have them in order for when AHS is sued again and I will participate.

The only work that can be done is during business hours. Someone should have told my furnace that. It's now late Friday night, and the contractor does not answer their phone (no answering machine or voice mail available) and AHS has yet to answer the phone. My furnace is not working (and yes it is cold outside) and we had agreed (with the contractor) to have service during the required business hours, but no show, no answer. I am on hold with AHS as I type this, over 2.5 hours so far and waiting....

(UPDATE as I was typing): AHS representative FINALLY answered the phone and said there was nothing I could do and the technician has 48 hours to answer... business days. They can CANCEL my request and submit another one, but I would have to wait until next TUESDAY for service. Meanwhile my house is getting colder as the outside temperature plummets.... There is nothing they can (WILL) do. HORRIFIC customer relations, and the service person on the phone had POOR communication skills, just reading a script. My next call is to the BBB.

My compressor outside was making some really strange noises, and when I touched it, it was very warm, to the point of being hot. So I called AHS and the gentleman came out and checked it all out. He determined that the coils in the house are the ones turning hot and he said that is normal. What will happen when the coils get a hole in them and lose their Freon that it will make the outside units stop working. It will not let the motor run because it's not working properly. When we looked at that coil in the inside unit, it looked pretty shocked.

So he took the coils out because we had a leak and they took it back to the office to check it. They found that there were several leaks in it and when they tried to repair them, it was not repairable. That coil was probably going on 16 years which is pretty old for a coil. He said that the policy is you try to repair it first, and if it still is not fixed, then you have to put a new one in. It comes to a point where repairing it is not really the best thing for the customer. You could repair it today and tomorrow it brings another leak because the thing was in pretty bad shape. But apparently that is American Home Shield's policy that you have to try to repair it no matter what the condition is. I can understand the policy in newer equipment but when something gets that old, they should just fix it right instead of pushing it down the road to another time. That's the only problem I had.

So in the case of an air conditioner, I have to basically buy the Freon to go back in there which gets pretty darn expensive. They brought a new coil out, put that in and had the Freon and got it working fine. Overall, I was happy with the service because it appeared as though that thing is gonna last. They were very prompt as they were here within 45 minutes after I called AHS. The contractor fixed it all out that day. It was raining but he still was able to get it done even though he had to do some of the work outside. They did an excellent job and I would recommend them.

We've had a couple of claims with American Home Shield. First one was with the dishwasher. We submitted the claim and AHS sent somebody out the next day to repair it - it turned out to be a stuck float. It was fixed and it's been fine since. The only issue we had was earlier this week; we had a plumbing problem. We called for a plumber due to what we suspected was a broken water pipe. They couldn't get out 'til the next day, so we called an independent contractor to come out and fix it because I really didn't want to flood my house. We cancelled AHS but they showed up anyhow the next day. So I've got one good and one bad experience. However, overall, AHS has been relatively good. They're not as responsive as I'd like them to be, but I know that they have schedules to maintain too.

My heater stopped working on the first week of February 2015. I contacted the company, who sent a guy that really did not want to be there doing what he was supposed to do: fix my heater unit. He examined the unit and indicated that it was the compressor in the outside unit. I asked him to check the half unit inside the house because the night before it smelled as it was burned. He replied that it was not necessary but I insisted. So he complained that his tools were already in the car and he needed to go and get them. I told him that it was necessary. He came back and checked the heater strips, which are almost falling out of their place, and he indicated that they are supposed to be like that. When I asked about the burning smell he said that it was part of the system.

I did not feel that he did a thoroughly review of the problem so I had my son, who is a HVAC licensed contractor, contacted American Home Shield. (His company does not contract with AHS.) After several attempts to make the company aware of the problems with the unit and with their unsatisfied responses and lies, they agreed to send another contractor, who visited my house on 02/13/15. This gentlemen clearly indicated, and reported in our invoice, that the compressor is gone as well as the heating strips in the inside unit.

Today, 02/19/15, I received a call from AHS indicating that they have decided to go with the first contractor's opinion and that the second contractor was UNAUTHORIZED. THEY FIRST LIED INDICATING THAT THEY DID NOT RECEIVE THE ESTIMATE OF CHARGES FROM THE 2ND CONTRACTOR. THEN, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY WERE NOT AUTHORIZED. AHS IS the one who sent the 2nd contractor to my house but now they want to cash me out, something that I did not request, and denied ever authorizing this second contractor.

This is so frustrated because I still without heat and the temperature's supposed to drop to 19 degrees on Friday. I do not have the energy anymore to deal with unscrupulous company such as this. They can keep what they have already got from me. I am done with this company and their lying ways. Every time I called, they have a different lie. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I have paid my premium every month and the only thing that I was asking is for them to properly fix my heater. I have been without heat for two weeks and they do not seem to care. I have called them multiple times only to realize that they love to change stories, do not take responsibilities for their actions and blame each other departments for what it went and is going wrong.

I still without heat and will have to pay from my pocket to have this fix before Friday. I will recommend any customers to check out this fishy company. Their customer services representatives are careless and are being trained to lie. I am so sorry I ever trusted this company for my house needs. I will never recommend them to no one.

AHS has been nothing less than awesome. I've done claims with AHS probably eight or nine times over the years, and every single time it's been excellent. I've never had an issue ever. Filed a claim for my heater recently as I smelled a gas leak and was worried about it. We smelled it for about a week before I called about it. Then the contractor sent by AHS came out and it turned out we had a little pinhole leak in one of the flame blowers. So he replaced the flame blower. Everything was excellent, from start to finish. And it always has been. That's one of those things that I continue to renew each year. I told my wife, even if we don't use it for three years, it's been more worth it every year.

I knew that stuff is going to break sooner or later so 15 years ago I signed up for American Home Shield. Our home is now 18 years old. The first ten years I had them, I never filed a claim. And then the last three years I've had probably ten claims. Whenever I make the call, they call back usually that same day and then the repair guy then calls and sets up an appointment. One time with the dishwasher, it would have been $400. With the garage door, it would have been $600. I've had the garage door opener worked on three different times, each time has been different, and the last time they finally replaced a part. The issue was fixed and I was very satisfied with the repair. This time it's with the AC -- the freon is completely drained. We're thankful because without the warranty, it would have been over around $2500. AHS product is doing exactly what I hope it would when I need it!

In December 2014 our tenants made a complaint that their refrigerator was not working properly. We quickly called American Home Shield to submit a ticket to have the fridge repaired. The problem was intermittent and the temperatures would vary- going all the way up to 75 degrees and causing all of their food to go bad. After a repair in December that took almost a week to complete and my husband and I having to replace a full set of food to compensate for everything they lost- we thought the issue was resolved. Shortly after the tenants told us it was not working again and we quickly reopened the ticket.

The second ticket was less than 60 days from the 1st ticket so we were told that we didn't need to pay the deductible since the issue was the same. That was done on February 1st- as of right now we have had 2 different repair companies come out (the 1st one quit after no success getting AHS to replace the appliance) We still have no resolution- I have called daily since the beginning of February to get updates since neither the repair company or AHS are calling me and providing updates.

Today after calling on my way to work I was told that the ticket was closed out by the escalation team with no progress being made, meanwhile my tenants are still without a refrigerator. I was promised that someone from the escalation team would call me by close of business today and its 9PM and of course they have not called back. This company has provided the worst service I have ever received in my life. I have never written a bad review on a company but I am beyond frustrated and have even considered taking them to court. If you are looking for a warranty company they would 100% be the last company I would ever do business with. The will be losing all of our warranty packages because at this rate I would rather save the hassle and frustration and just pay out of pocket.

Within 24 hours of placing a claim, AHS has somebody calling and trying to set up an appointment. They usually get here when they say they're going to and they tell you if they can fix the problem or if they need to get the parts. You pay them $75 and then they call you they got the parts. We only had one problem with them and that's with the guy that had fixed our sink. Being without a kitchen sink is a real bummer and the guy ordered the wrong part. And there was a time when one of the contractors came out and we paid them the $75. A week later I got a bill from American Home Shield saying I never paid the $75. It was the contractor that screwed up and they called right away. They sent me an email saying “You owe us nothing” and that was that.

On Jan 6 I had a problem with a crack in my geothermal refrigerant line. I called AHS and they sent a tech out. What a clown he was! He brazed the refrigerant line shut at the txv valve and blew the compressor up and left. AHS then sent out another tech which was great! He told me that the guy basically blew my unit. He gave AHS a quote to make a complete fix. AHS then wanted a second opinion and called another tech out. Ha, what a joke. The guy came out and looked at the unit. A few days later he called me to ask what refrigerant was in the unit and I told him 410A and he told me I was wrong. I then sent him a picture of the service tag and it was 410A. I haven't heard from him since.

Today is Feb 17 and still no fix! I have been running on emergency heat for over a month. Here in PA over that last month it has been freezing cold! Many of days being in single digits with a real feel in the negatives! I got my electric bill for last month which only has maybe two weeks of running on emergency heat and the bill is almost 7 times as high than normal. This is crazy! Nobody should have to go through this experience! Need bills paid and fixed right! Need help!

Updated on April 1, 2015: I wrote a review previously about my geothermal. Just to give a update and hopefully help other people out to avoid this from happening to them. It's been freezing cold in PA and I still haven't got this resolved. It has been 3 months that I been running on emergency heat to heat my house. Which means electric bills have been through the roof!! The original fix was quoted at $600 dollars to fix. The contractor that came to my house that American Home Shield called out had no clue what he was doing. He blew up the compressor and txv valve while messing around. He tried to cool down the compressor by turning the ac on. It was in the teens and snowing out. He dropped my house to 48 degrees and after a little went home. He came back the next day and walked out again.

Another two companies came out to give quotes. American Home Shield is now trying to makes us pay a lot of money and cash us out. With this being said we need to find a lawyer. This is a poor company! Very poor! They won't work with ya at all and send clowns out who don't know what they are doing or over charge. I have learned my lesson and should have just paid the $600 out of my pocket. I'm now looking at thousands to get this fixed correctly. I will never use them again - it's a complete scam. I hope I can help!! Good luck!!

American Home Shield has a process where it takes 3 days to receive the equipment. I then inquired about a Cash in Lieu option. The customer service agent told me she would submit my request and I would be able to call the next morning and find out the total cost (this conversation occurred at 6 pm). The following morning I called and no request for Cash in Lieu of Service had been submitted, and I was told I would have to wait 24 hours to gain that information. I spent a total of two hours on the phone with American Home Shield.

On two occasions I asked to be informed of the process in terms of what information was needed by American Home Shield from the contracted service company in order to expedite the process. On both occasions I was told I was not allowed to know that information and I had to wait 24 hours for a response. I find it difficult to understand why I am required to pay my bill on time and yet American Home Shield can take days to respond and provide service. I have also spoken to several different representatives and gotten different information each time.

Hello Brian, We appreciate your feedback that you have provided. The cash in Lieu is a option given to customers to have the repair taken care of with the company of your choice. That process goes to another department and calculated, someone calls you back from that department and that process can take up too 24 to 48 business hours. I apologize for any confusion and inconvenience this has caused. Please let us know if you need anything else.

Our dishwasher wasn't washing dishes as well as it should be and it completely just stopped drying altogether. It was the second time I used AHS and it's been real quick doing the claim online; the only hard part was trying to figure out what model my dishwasher was. The contractor came out and the only complaint I have was all he really did was have a meeting to redo the claim because he just came and cleaned it out and said that we were using too much soap. He didn't fix the drying problem and then he told us that if it wasn't drying to call back but we just never got around to it. I wish he just didn't look at it the first time and said "Hey, stop using too much soap." It’s the contractor that I had the problem with but I'm happy with American Home Shield -- it was easy filing the claim and they got someone out immediately.

We are extremely upset with AHS and very disappointed with the whole experience. The request for shower valve repair was submitted on Dec. 31, 2014. Now on Feb 16 we are still playing back and forth game between us and AHS. The contractor (plumber) they sent did not do a thorough assessment of the repair and looks like he did not submit a correct estimate to the AHS. I had to force him to make a picture for an appraisal. He told us right the way that AHS will not pay much and suggested that we buy our own valve and he will install it. Our understanding was that the contractor makes an estimate of repair, send to AHS, then after the approval, comes back and completes the repair. This was confirmed with AHS through several phone calls.

After he submitted the estimate to AHS, he notified us that they approved only $125 for parts and labor yet he charges $250 for installation. He also said that if the wall needs to be opened, the closure of it is not covered. Our Waterfall Shower Faucet Thermostatic Mixer Valve with Body Massage Spray Jet System is worth a whole lot more than this amount. Plus installation. How is this possible that they could approve only $125? After many phone calls to AHS, we can't get anywhere. They offered us a check for $25 in consideration that another $100 is our deductible in order for us to find our own contractor. We can not get through to their management and can't make them to send us a different contractor that is qualified to make a correct assessment and complete a repair. This shower is not working for 1.5 months now and the question is: why do we need the policy with AHS.

I read the reviews before signing up with AHS for my duplex. I contacted AHS because of my tenant's complaint about the heating system. I was able to place a service request without a problem. I understood they had 48 hours to have a service tech contact us, and 72 hours to have a plan. Here we are over 72 hours, and no service tech has made contact. I did get an email from AHS (within a half hour), that a company was assigned to us, a hundred miles away! I contacted them as soon as I saw the email. They verified the info I had. Then nothing. I have not been able to get them on the phone again.

My tenant has called to complain again. I spent 25 minutes on hold with AHS this morning. They said they would find out what was going on and call me back in 2 to 3 minutes. 4 hours later, nothing. I am again on hold more than 20 minutes, and waiting. The message says my call is important - really? My contract says if I call someone else, I'm on my own. So what good is AHS if they don't provide the service I am paying them every month for?

However, the new dishwasher did not clean or dry the dishes. AHS sent a technician to check the new dishwasher and no problems were noted. He offered a few suggestions on how to possibly solve the problem. However, the dishwasher still does not clean the dishes even when the suggestions were followed. Currently trying to resolve the problem with AHS. When we were getting the dishwasher replaced we asked about getting different dishwasher than the one AHS offered but we would have to pay a difference of $389 to get the different dishwasher even though there was only a $19 difference in the suggested retail price of the dishwashers. Was told this was because of the volume discount AHS got for the offered one. Still trying to resolve the problem.

I purchased a home warranty program from AHS for my mother's home. She is 93 years old. Her furnace went out in the middle of a 20 degree night. I called AHS at 8:00 the next morning and filled a request for service. Five hours later I got a call from the man they had assigned the job to - A one man band not a company of servicemen. He informed me that he was on his way to Indiana and would not be back until the next day. Of course the next day a snowstorm and even colder temperatures were predicted. He suggested I call AHS and ask to have the case reassigned.

After waiting on hold for 30 minutes to get a person I was told that they would not reassign the case. I explained that this was the home of a 93 year old who had no heat. They could not have cared less. It is now 25 hours after I placed my service call and I have been on hold, so far another 30 minutes, listening to the recording telling me my call is important to them. What a load that is! I have tried to reach contractor but I guess he is stuck somewhere in Indiana. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I do not think ethical contractors will work with them so you are stuck with the bottom of the barrel.

Dealing with their representatives has been positive for the most part. Their contractors are also pretty good, but there's just a couple of times that I wasn't happy with the work. I had a plumber come - the one that fixed my leak in my kitchen - it took him almost a month to repair it. I wasn't really happy with what they did because I ended up replacing the faucet that they replaced with another one that I bought on my own, because the one they brought me just was not good.

Also, the last time we had somebody out to do the water heater, they had taken some part of the water heater and then didn't put it back together. We didn't know until later, like a month or so. My son happened to go up in the attic and noticed that something was not in the way it's supposed to be. But as far as the parts that was replaced, I hadn't had any more trouble. Again, other than these instances, I've had no problems with their work. Though I'm bothered that their price is going up every year, but nevertheless, I'd still recommend AHS to a friend.

After living in the house for a month, we realized that some outlets were acting strange. Lights were going dim and then bright - randomly. As we used the outlets, this got worse. I contacted AHS and asked that they send someone to check this out. The electrician was quick and came the next day. He determined that one of our electric panels was arching and was a fire hazard.

AHS contacted us within a couple of days and said this would be covered. We paid the contractor $150 for the permit a month ago. The contractor's office has done nothing but lie to us. I have spoken with the City, the permit is waiting for them to send in their Worker's Comp certificate. It has been ready for more than a week. I have the City calling the contractor daily and they continue to lie to them. I have called AHS and spoke to a customer service person. She told me that we cannot have a different electric company and that if didn't hear anything by 2/10 to call her back. I have done that, left a message and have heard nothing.

Today is 2/13 we cannot use any of the outlets and some light now. We also suspect that our pool pump is either damaged or cannot work due to this issue. We are scared to sleep in our home because of this fire hazard that no one seems concerned about. On top of this, our home owners insurance is threatening to drop us because of the problem. I am so disappointed that I am getting nowhere with anyone. Can someone please help?

We would open the cabinet and saw this tub of water. So I called AHS and filed the claim. They assigned a plumber. The first plumber that they assigned ended up losing the appointment and didn’t show so I had to reschedule. The claims representative was really helpful. When I called and said something they immediately assigned it to a new company. And that company called me within an hour or so to confirm the appointment. So everything went great. The plumber came out and confirmed what I thought, that basically it was time to be replaced. It's a 10 year-old unit. It lasted longer than it usually do.

I appreciate the service. They've been really good. They've always responded when I needed it. I used to have individual contracts for my appliances. But since we’ve had the home warranty, it’s been great. It takes me countless times on the air conditioning to bring someone out. And I had a furnace issue and a fridge issue and they've repaired them spot on, so they did a great job. I can't find a reason to complain.

Since my husband was laid off from work, they saved us a lot of money for the repair. They put in the air conditioners and did everything they say they would do. We're 100% pleased.

Refrigerator broke on 24 Jan, was initially assigned a company that would not come out on a Sat. Second company identified the problem and stated they didn't do the work. After an additional 3 companies declined to do the repair, I was reassigned to the first company Moonstar Appliance Repair. I was told by AHS the parts were ordered on 2 Feb. Well it is 12 Feb and my refrigerator is still broken, it seems they can't locate one of the parts. FedEx says it was delivered. AHS keeps saying to work with the repair company and it seems they really don't care about it. I was finally told today my problem has been sent up to another department and I should be hearing from them in 24 to 48 business hours, and with Monday being a holiday, I may not be hearing from them until Tues 18 Feb!!! What kind of service is this???

The new policies they offer don't require you to select the ice maker as an add on but my policy type was so old that it does. They never informed me of this and guess what - the new policies actually cost less. They refused to honor my claim even after my long term commitment with them. Canceled my contract and there is actually a penalty for early termination. Total rip off.

We had no problem at all in submitting a claim to American Home Shield except for the hold time that they put you on. But once they answered, we put the claim in, and within 48 hours someone calls, they come out, we pay our deductible, and the rest is history. The contractors were knowledgeable and professional. It's nice to see that they had a badge on themselves so we knew who they were.

We can't understand, however, that there were so much parts that needed to be replaced on our most recent claim. The time they got to replace all the parts, they could have given off an allowance to buy a new washing machine instead of repairing the old one. I think they spent over $700 on parts where they could have very well given up for $400. We could have gone out there and put the difference and buy another machine. But it's not bad, it's still working. Since the repair, the washing machine's performance went from bad to fair. We're still glad that we have it.

Thank you for the feedback Lou. We actually only spent wholesale for the appliance and did not pay the amount as high as you believe. We will work on improving services concerning decisions on whether to repair or replace items. Normally, options can be given on any service request, so in the future if you have concerns about whether going with a repair is the right thing to do, then ask for other options that way you are completely satisfied with the experience.

On Feb 2, 2015 my heat pump stopped working, AHS assigned Pride Air Conditioning and Heating Services Co., Inc of Manassas VA for diagnose. Pride Heating and Air Conditioning representative spending hardly 5 minutes, submitted wrong information to AHS to make me do the repairs by paying $1020 from my pocket by saying "negligence in maintenance" by which AHS denied my claim without checking their records.

Since my preventive maintenance was done by AHS under their own preventive maintenance contract on March 20, 2014 by Sunn Corporation (less than a year ago and passed) I requested second opinion done by SUNN Corporation of Damascus MD, on Feb 3rd SUNN Corporation proved Pride's report totally wrong by AHS paying all the expenses including 2nd opinion copay on Feb 3, 2015. Due to the severe cold weather I have to take my elderly father to a local hotel and took off two days from work due to a wrong diagnose and decision. I strongly suggest AHS to have qualified contractors and check all the facts before your final decision.

Recently I submitted a claim because I wanted to make sure my furnace was in working order before winter. When I called in, this person said it's going to cost me $250 and up so I actually got someone else just to clean my furnace. Later on it didn't work and I called again and one of their guys came out. He said, "She didn't know what she was talking about. It is $75." I did three claims all at once a long time ago. We have five units, so that was the first time that one had been broken. I used to be able to submit a claim online. I had a lot of trouble doing that, but I just called them and I'm held for a little while then got them and told them what was going on. And the next day or two, the contractor called me and told me he was going to be up. He looked at it and told us what was wrong with it, which I really can't remember. My husband probably would, and he had ordered the parts and they got a guy to fix it. These are not the people that would normally come to work on it. This guy was not quite as good as the guy that normally comes and works on it. We got it hooked up for a couple of weeks and they called us and they said "Now, we'll go ahead and send this other company." I know, the other guy was a little bit better but I wouldn't say they were bad.

We have a house that's for sale with a different company. The realtor does a different thing and I don't like them as well. They're not as near as good. You have to remember that the people who work for American Home Shield, sometimes come out when they're supposed to and sometimes they go, and I get all that. What I can say about all that, though, is it's still worth the money even though it's a little more headache than what I would normally put up with. It has saved me a ton of money so I'm okay with it. I recommend them all the time. In fact, I have two friends who just got it last year based on my recommendation.

We filed our most recent claim because the ice in our ice machine would clump together and we couldn't get single ice cubes out. So we called American Home Shield and they sent someone out from A1, they said that one of the parts of the ice-maker needed to be replaced. The water fills and then empties into the tray. The guy from A1 came back a second time and he put the replacement part in. Then the A1 guy came out a third time since we kept calling because we still couldn't get any ice but then what was happening was the refrigerator started making a horrible noise.

We finally got Fidelity out here through AHS. Their guy looked at it and said, "This part is misplaced...It has been put in incorrectly." So he fixed it and we've been able to get ice cubes now. It turned out that because the A1 guy had put the part in incorrectly, the water slid down the back of the freezer and was freezing, and the fan was hitting these icicles and making this horrendous noise.

It took over a week to fix. We thought that the refrigerator was breaking but it turned out it was just that the way the A1 guy had put in the replacement part was wrong. So it wasn't taken care of. So I would not recommend A1 to use as a service. I don't know how AHS picks these people out...if someone actually experiences the service provided by these people that come out to homes to fix things...I don't know how that is contracted. But somebody at AHS should have known the quality of their service before or else they should have consulted somebody. At the beginning, with that first group, it was bad...A1 was horrible. But now we're completely satisfied.

At 12:30pm I called AHS to put in a ticket for a plumbing emergency. I asked them to expedite the ticket since we had to shut the water off to our whole house. I never got a call so I called back about 2 hours later. I was on hold for about 20 minutes and finally got someone on the line who said the ticket was entered incorrectly as a 'recall' on a previous ticket. I explained that was not correct and we needed to get a plumber out right away. He said he had to email the original AHS rep to confirm that this was not a 'recall'... Of course I would imagine since she is the one who thought it was a recall, she probably would have told him that it was a recall. Ugh.

He assured me someone would call me back shortly. No call back. I called again and was on hold again for another 20 minutes and got someone on the phone who said that at this point, they would need confirmation that Dr Drain was unable to make the appointment. I called Dr. Drain rep myself and he said he was very sick and had already called AHS to let them know he couldn't make it. I called AHS again, again was on hold, got someone who said that now it is a 'transfer' and a dispatcher would be calling around to find other companies that could come out.

I asked how long that might take and was told they did not know. I asked if I could call people and find someone and was told I could not do that until their dispatchers were allowed 2 hours to find someone and that I would have to call AHS again to get an 'outside auth'. I explained my frustration and the rep assured me that I would be called within half an hour. No call back. In 2 minutes I googled 'Raleigh Plumbers' and found Roto Rooter, who could come out tonight by 7pm. I don't understand why AHS 'dispatchers' can't do this. But of course, I needed the outside auth number. Since I had yet to hear back from AHS, I called AHS and was on hold for 45 minutes. I explained the whole thing again to a new rep who finally gave me an outside authorization number.

By this time, I had lost the appointment with Roto Rooter so now no one can come out until 8am tomorrow. We have not been able to use our sinks, toilets, showers, etc. since 12:30pm today. I am so angry at AHS and do not plan to renew my contract with them. For over 6 hours I tried to resolve this situation and even though I was reassured numerous times that an AHS rep would call me back, this did not happen all day.

I called like on a Thursday and it was Tuesday of the following week or Wednesday before anybody came out, so they authorized me to call another person that wasn't in the network. He came out immediately and checked it out for me. He spoke with them and got the authorization and everything they want. It was the claims girl and the representative that I spoke to. Everything was great and perfect, very glad to have the service. I have recommended it to several people that if they don't have the home warranty, they should look into it because it's very well worth the money that we paid on our premium each month since we had it. We're just very glad to have it.

I've got six properties that are covered with American Home Shield. I've had good experiences and I've had bad experiences. The last time I had a problem I had a slab leak. I called and I was given a contact number. When I called, there was no answer on the contact number. It was New Year's Eve and I can understand that but I couldn't wait any longer. It was impossible for me to wait because there's water coming out.

So I went ahead and called a plumber and the plumber came. The plumber told me that it was a specialized situation because it was a slab leak and he couldn't fix it. And he gave me the name of another plumber. So I called the other plumber, he came out and fixed it. So when I called AHS back, they said that because I didn't use the plumber that they guys sent me that never contacted me, that I didn't have a claim. Unfortunately it happened twice that no contractor showed up: once with the air-conditioning and once with plumbing.

On January 3rd, I contacted AHS to request service for my LG washer and dryer in addition to my Wolf oven (that only needed a hinge). An appointment was scheduled with All Desert Appliances on January 7th. All Desert identified the parts for all 3 appliances that were needed and the serviceman told us the company would order parts and call for a follow-up appointment. After several weeks of calling All Desert Appliances to find out what happened to the parts, they proceeded to tell me that they were unaware that they needed to order parts for the oven or the washer, but they would make an appointment to repair the dryer (only). Apparently, they had the dryer parts for some time but forgot to call me.

In the meantime, they installed the dryer parts, but my dryer still can't be used because it’s making very loud screeching noises when I turn it on. I have called AHS numerous times to ask for your company to intervene and help me resolve this but after waiting hours on hold, nobody seems to care to help me. I just spoke with Deshawn/AHS who told me the parts for my washer are not in and they don't know when they will arrive. Apparently they were not ordered until January 21st.

On Monday, February 2nd, after waiting on hold for almost one hour, I asked the AHS representative if I could speak with a supervisor and explained the situation to her. She told me a supervisor was not available but I would receive a call back within 24 hours. I never received a call from anyone at AHS. On Tuesday, February 3rd, All Desert Appliances called me to schedule a service appointment on the 4th. I took off work and they never showed up, then called to reschedule for today (Feb 6th). Today, I stayed home from work again and the service person only had parts for the oven and he knew nothing about the washer/dryer repair. I called All Desert Appliances this afternoon and they told me they are no longer handling my washer/dryer servicing because someone cancelled the service. I never canceled service. Did AHS cancel?

I am now on hold with AHS (51 minutes) and Deshawn is telling me that All Desert Appliances is just waiting for parts. AHS is telling me one thing and All Desert Appliance is telling me they are no longer servicing me. Bottom line, AHS has not delivered on their commitment to me and I deserve better! I have two service contracts with your company. Please check them: ** . I have been on hold for 1 hour and 15 minutes waiting for a supervisor and just got disconnected. PLEASE HELP ME.

Our furnace went out yesterday and we immediately submitted a request through AHS. Given that it's February in Michigan (I think our low was 7 degrees last night!), we needed this problem taken care of quickly! You get an email almost immediately with the contractor's information, so after I received my email I pro-actively called him to see about an appt. He told me he would get us on the schedule first thing in the morning.

When I woke up this morning, I checked in with him again and he said he'd be at our house before 10 am. He showed up at 9:15 am and was able to quickly diagnose the problem. He needed a part to fix it, so he left to go find the part and was back in under 30 minutes. Once he returned with the new part, the furnace was fixed in under 5 minutes. Our contractor was very polite and completed his job quickly. The paperwork at the end was a breeze (most of it electronic, which I love) and we were able to make it to our morning plans that I thought for sure we'd have to cancel.

We asked for a contractor who can fix our water heater ASAP in 24 hrs...was told that's the only contractor. We waited for thursday; listed on the contract was my wife's number. So I called the contractor at 12:30 pm to tell them to use this number (number I'M using to call) to call me whenever the repairman is on his way. 3 pm -- nothing happened,

I called the contractor and was told they called my wife's number; expectedly they weren't answered as my wife's at work. I insisted that I called them earlier to tell them to call my number; the receptionist said, "I overheard your conversation with another receptionist; it was not me." Then I got mad for no matter who I talked to but they are in the same company...I was charged as rude. I called ahs just to slammed again by a customer service representative as rude to their contractor, "That's what happened. You cannot get the service you want if you are rude to the contractors." If you are a customer or a prospective buyer of a home insurance; I would not recommend this kind of unprofessionalism and a company without concern to their customers but to their contractors. Now another 5 days of without hot/Warm water.

Honoring the reputation, the call was not serviced. Even after I requested to change the Service Vendor to AHS, a very rude customer representative flat denied to change the vendor. Kept on insisting to reschedule appointment.

Explaining in good polite way that "I can not wait for another 5/6 hours in workdays after having taken 2 half-days off already", does not make any difference. Seem the AHS Rep was taking the Vendors side throwing all the rules. It was very frustrating and helpless situation. But when you're dealing with food and your refrigerator and freezer, you can't wait three days. My contract is clear in that I am only responsible for the deductible and does not include paying tax on service calls. When I contacted AHS they told me that I had to contact the contractor. As I did not select the contractor chosen by AHS to do the service and have no affiliation with the contractor I have no responsibility to pay more than what is in my contract. Two different technicians have tested my water pressure and both of them find the pressure to be within a normal range (95 psi). One of them wrote that "95lbs of WP will not cause a tank to rapture...." They are tested at 300 psi and rated for 150 psi. I asked AHS for second opinion, but they are saying that they could not find a different technician to come and reassess the problem, so they are sticking to the assessment from their former technician.

Can't they find any technician in the whole of Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, OH? This is an unethical practice that should be stopped. I am filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau, and possibly seek a legal recourse. Original Review: Feb. 3, 2015

I've been a customer for three years now, and this is my first time to seek assistance with a repair. My gas furnace stopped working Friday, January 23. I immediately called in the service request. Despite the freezing temperatures, it was four days before a repairman arrived. He ordered a part. It's now been a week since he visited, and I've heard nothing else. (I'm not very surprised, since he came from a city 125 miles away, which I wouldn't call "local" by any stretch of the imagination).

I called American Home Shield earlier today to request a status update. I was told they would call back. They haven't. It's now 27 degrees outside, and about the same temperature inside the house. Terribly cold. But after eleven agonizing days and nights of no heat at all, I'm about to get accustomed to it. You can learn to live in extreme discomfort if you set your mind to it. There's evidently no hurry or urgency involved in warranty repairs. I never dreamed an essential heating repair could drag on for so long in extremely cold weather. Hopefully it will get resolved soon.

    Updated review: April 1, 2015

Since I posted a negative review, it's only fair to provide a complete update once the situation is resolved. So, I have a new wall oven now --- a lovely Whirlpool model that works wonderfully. The wall oven was installed three months after AHS first agreed to replace it.

I appreciated that AHS responded on this site --- you gotta respect a company that's trying to protect its brand --- so I decided to take a few days off from the situation and then head back in. A few more e-mail exchanges later and I began to reach conclusions and was able to determine that this is how it works: AHS pretty much decides how much they're going to contribute to the cost of a replacement appliance. They then source one appliance at that price and offer it to you. If you don't want that appliance, you can apply their contribution to the value of the one you want and pay the difference. You also have to find the other appliance and give them the model number. When you use this Upgrade Program, it doesn't cover removal of the old appliance but, to AHS' credit, the rep who contacted me once the new wall oven had been ordered, let me know this well in advance.

Now that's clear, but I had to piece that together from a series of rather unclear and incomplete e-mail communications. Once I summarized this in an e-mail to AHS, they then confirmed that was the process. AHS needs to work on fixing that. I'm not sure if the Appliance Replacement Team has scripted text that they cut and paste, or if they're coming up with the language themselves, but the communication needs addressing.

I also believe that AHS should make a better effort to (1) source appliances that actually fit the cutout dimensions and (2) source more than one appliance. I still believe that it is foolish, and a lack of customer service, to source one appliance model only, and to source one that doesn't fit. At the bare minimum, AHS should source an appliance that fits even if it finds only one model. At least give the customer that. Anything short of that just creates unnecessary annoyance.

Now, there's definitely more than one model that fits, and in my situation that was true. I found three. However, it was only after a series of emails that AHS provided the names of the companies they have wholesale agreements with and I had to search for compatible models myself. One of the three was rejected because AHS then said they had no agreement with Frigidaire. (They earlier said they had an agreement with Sears, and I found the Frigidaire and Whirlpool ovens on sears.com, so I logically assumed it'd be covered. One more thing to clarify, AHS!).

Once I provided brands and model numbers, it took only one business day for AHS to provide the cost assessment and my share of the cost. Top marks there! But I wonder why they couldn't have just done this in the beginning, especially because they know which brands they'll purchase. It comes back to the fact that if the initial communication (1) offered an appliance that fit the space; and (2) explained why I wasn't being offered an appliance that didn't fit --- truly, I still don't know ---- the issue wouldn't have taken three months to resolve. I suggest a sample e-mail:

"AHS is willing to contribute $XXX towards a replacement wall oven. We have sourced a compatible product but cannot find one that will fit your dimensions for the $XXX price. The models we found were X, Y, Z, but they are either too wide or too deep. In order to assure you receive an oven that meet your needs, we offer our Appliance Upgrade Program option. With this program, you are to find a suitable wall oven using our vendors A, B,C. These vendors may provide a discounted price. AHS will apply the $XXX contribution to the cost of the wall oven. The remainder of the cost will be yours to meet and you will pay us directly for your share before the appliance is delivered. If you would to use the Appliance Upgrade Program, please provide us with the model number(s) of the wall ovens you wish us to price. We will provide a cost breakdown and you may select which one you prefer and call us with your credit card information."

That tells me everything and doesn't offer me an oven that doesn't fit without explanation.

So, I'm increasing my rating because AHS gets a star for (1) timely responses; (2) timely followup and clear information after I selected a wall oven; and (3) paying attention to review posted to Consumer Affairs and responding to them in a professional matter. I took away a star for (1) poor communication in those timely responses and (2) initially offering an unacceptable product without explanation, even when explanation was requested.

All in all would I stick with the company? Yes, because those two communication and customer service issues can be easily fixed and I hope they'll do so.

I've had AHS warranty service for about six years now, and they have usually provided good service and repairs are handled properly. Then my wall oven needed replacing and I've been going in circles with them for months. A contractor came out in May, said an electronic component needed replacing and despite my repeated calls for follow-up, I received no movement on the issue for months. The contractor kept insisting they were waiting for AHS to agree to the replacement order and AHS kept insisting they hadn't been contacted.

This went on from May until November and finally an AHS representative agreed to send out another contractor. The second contractor came out and put through an order for the electronic component. AHS decided to replace the oven and offered free replacement but the wall oven they offered was too large for my cutout area. I had 30 days to make a decision. I did some research and found another oven (with a retail price about the same as the one AHS offered). AHS responded by saying that it would cost over $900 if I wanted the wall oven that fits the cutout space. I went back and forth with AHS about how they could offer an oven that doesn't fit the space or the size of the defective oven.

They insisted that my contract doesn't require them to match the cutout size; they're only required to match the features but not dimensions (Section A, Item 4 of contract). The contract does say that but I assumed that it meant that it may not be the exact same size but would at least fit into the actual space created by the home builder for the appliance. The space can accommodate an oven 23-25 inches. It doesn't make sense to say that they will provide a wall oven that is actually too big for the cutout space and cannot be securely installed into the wall. "Not having to provide an oven of the same dimensions" doesn't mean (IMHO) providing one that doesn't fit at all and cannot be safely installed in the space without violating codes.

The oven AHS is offering is three inches too big. It will require a modification to the actual walls of my kitchen and garage to accommodate the extra inches to enlarge the cutout space --- a cost of hundreds of dollars. I've been pushing back on AHS and now they've stopped responding to my e-mails. I am absolutely confused as to why AHS is behaving this way, and interpreting their own contract in such an illogical fashion. This after months of calls to even get this oven repaired and back in a usable condition (it shuts off after one hour of use, making most cooking impossible). I'm now having to review the arbitration process because it seems I may have to go that route. An unfortunate end to what I thought was a decent relationship.

Our furnace quit working on a Saturday in January, in Illinois, where the weather was hovering from around 20 to 40 degrees. Upon contacting American Home Shield, they informed me I would get "expedited service with 24 hours." The contractor they chose never called, and after I called back again, they found a new contractor who finally came out on Monday. We had been without heat for 2 nights. I would also like to note that I was 9 months pregnant at the time, due in 10 days. American Home Shield was informed of this, and informed of what the temperature was. The contractor checked out our furnace, and said they would order a part and would be out the next day to put it in. The next day, after they did not show, I called the contractor almost a dozen times before they picked up, and then was told the part would not be in until Thursday.

When they came out Thursday night about 8:00 pm, we had been without heat for 5 nights. We had bought space heaters to prevent the pipes from freezing. The contractor put in a part, determined that our furnace was fixed, and left. About 24 hours later, we realized the furnace was not fixed. While it was running and putting out some heat, it was not blowing it throughout the house and the thermostat was barely hitting 60. We called American Home Shield again, who again told us the contractor would be out to our house Saturday afternoon. As the day progressed and no one showed up, I called again and again and was told repeatedly that we were "next on the list" and that he would show up. He never did.

At this point, we had been without heat for a week, and the forecast called for a blizzard the next day with temperatures dropping to 0 degrees. I'm 9 months pregnant, and this is a serious health and safety issue. I called a local HVAC contractor, who immediately came out and fixed the furnace. AHS's contractor has never called. In summary, American Home Shield left me without heat in January in Illinois, 9 months pregnant, for 8 days. They are receiving the bill for the contractor to fix my furnace, though I imagine they will not want to pay. We are also considering legal action against them for Breach Of Contract and Negligence of Health and Safety.

I continually get lip service from AHS, I am sick of being told one thing and then doing another. They do business with unreputable businesses, and when the contractor can't get there for 2-3 days they think that is ok. When I contact them to see about doing business with reputable companies they have nothing to say. I have used them twice in the last 6 months, the first time I had to hire my own contractor (reputable) to respond to a sewage issue that was spilling out into the home. According to AHS a response time of 48 hours was acceptable, they told me their contractor could not respond before that. I contacted a reputable contractor and he responded within hours. I am running into the same thing time after time. I had to pay out of pocket because they continue to do business with unreputable companies.

American Home Shield was built into the purchase contract on a house that I bought in Florida. My latest claim was for the clothes dryer. The clothes weren't getting dry. I called American Home Shield and they lined me up with a local plumber or appliance repair company, and they came out. We paid the $75. They had to order parts and get a new thermostat for the dryer. They came back in about a week, put it in, and we're good. It worked fine.
