I had a problem with our refrigerator. It was leaking water so I called AHS and they came within several hours to remedy the problem. They were very prompt, very efficient and very courteous. I'm very satisfied with them. The contractor knew immediately what the problem was and had the replacement part on his truck and was able to replace the defective part immediately. AHS paid the repairperson directly. All I had to pay was the copay on the service call and that was the negotiated price ahead of time so I knew exactly what it was going to cost me. Since I've been a participant in their program, I have been entirely satisfied.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield's system is easy to do even though it's recorded now. Even the contractor they've sent was polite, quick and efficient. He got right to the job, fixed it and off he went. Excellent service and job well done.

Our dishwasher wasn't working very well. It took a little while for AHS to get it done and then the person had to come back again, but it got done eventually. The contractor sent by American Home Shield was very informed and very nice. He got everything done well. Since the repair, the dishwasher is better but it's not working fabulous. We want to get a new one but they weren't willing to trade it out. They would give you money for it but they were not going to replace it. So that was a disappointment.
Hi Lydia, Thank you for providing feedback about your experience! Per the contract verbiage, if the item is repairable per the technicians diagnose, we will repair it. Once it is determined to be non-repairable, AHS will replace the item. However, if you're not wanting the item repaired, we can offer you a cash in lieu of the repair costs. We apologized if this caused any confusion. We appreciate the opportunity to improve our products and services.

For me, AHS is a very exemplary company and organization and I've referred a lot of friends and clients to them. The claims process was quite simple and was quite direct and very expedient. I haven't had any major issues or problems with the contractors they send. They show up at the time that they're supposed to show up. There's many occasions where they have had to repeat the process but they come back out very willingly. It has always been worth the money that I spend to have the service that I get out of the benefits they provide.

I had plumbing issues and filed claim with AHS. The people were out there the next day and did a good job. They had to replace the toilet and the repair guy answered all my questions. He's very polite, very respectful, and he knew what he was doing and he got it done. I haven't had to call him back since there are no problems after the repair. I'm always happy with AHS and there hasn't been an instance I'm not. It has worked good for me so far.

American Home Shield has been wonderful for the most part. They’re very efficient. When we call in and we need a repair, they usually get the people to call us back within 24 hours. The repair people have always been very reputable. So the one problem we did have, they ultimately dealt with and fixed. We have recommended them to people.

I needed a plumber because I had a broken valve that required me to turn off my water to the whole house and I could not get them to find me a plumber sooner than 24 hours. I have children and had to live in sub standard conditions for 24 hours. The plumber wanted to charge me 195.00 to come sooner than the 24 hours. When I contacted American Home to tell him of this bad business practice they would not get me a new plumber and told me it is within his guidelines and I was stuck having him fix my problem.
Hello Diana, Thank you for sharing your experience about your plumbing repairs. We apologize for the delay and pride ourselves in trying to locate services within 24hrs. If you're still in need of assistance, I can have a case manager contact you.

When I was having a problem with my oven, I filed a claim with American Home Shield. My interaction with the representative was very good. They were very timely and having me contacted by a service provider, and the service provider was very timely in contacting me, making an appointment and coming out. They were very courteous. Once they diagnosed the problem, they explained to me what it was and what needed to be done. And then they proceeded to do the repair and resolved the problem. The performance of my oven since the repair has been very good.

It was pretty smooth when I submit claims with AHS but I was disappointed with the plumber they sent for our water softener since he did not show up immediately. When he showed up he said he doesn't work on those things. So essentially, we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it replaced. A very poor representation of the company. He was saying that our water softener is about a $2000 to $3000 water softener, and then he said they're going to replace it with about a $307 water softener from the local hardware store. He recommended trying to get some cash, and then just building on to it to buy a better one on our own. We had a similar problem with the garbage disposal that AHS replaced for us. It was very low quality. We had to wait a long time. I could have actually did it myself cheaper.
Hi Scott, if you're still in need of assistance we would like to help. We apologize for the experience you've had with your water softener service request. Your feedback will be used to better our services.

Working with American Home Shield, working with their representative has always been positive. They have always been very helpful. But my experience with some of the contractors that has been sent to fix things has been less than a good experience. Once they send out certain plumbers and they have to go to my rental property to fix things, that's when I run into some issues with things not being fixed appropriately, having two or three service calls for the same item. But other than that I think that it was a good idea for me to sign up. My experience with AHS as a company overall has been a decent one.

I’m not a real big fan of American Home Shield. Our house came with a home warranty so we didn't pick them. We never received an actual contract from AHS either. Every time they come out, we had no say in what type of plan we have and who they picked. So there's a $100 fee no matter what every time that somebody comes out. For instance with our refrigerator, people have had to come out four times and we've owned the house for a year and a half. I called and I got someone who was pleasant on the phone. She was the most helpful person I've dealt with. She was very good and sweet and we spent 15 minutes on the phone and her going over everything. She told me that they won't give me a new fridge. I will get a prorated amount.
And then she said most times, people do the buyout and they just take whatever money they would have for the repair and they will just take that money and go put it towards a new appliance. I think that's crazy. What is the purpose of having a home warranty then? I feel it's a little deceiving in a sense. They are very hard to work with. They do give you the option to pay for it out of pocket and get reimbursed but there's a good chance that you probably won't get what you paid.
I am thinking our refrigerator might need to be replaced and it's going to cost me more out of pocket. But it tends to be when you do the math, it would be probably less expensive for us to just hire a contractor to come out and do a repair than it would be to wait. So I have a refrigerator right now that isn't working and I had to go out and buy a temporary fridge and they don't pay for all the food you lost because the refrigerator stopped cooling. And so it's been a two-week thing. The parts are still not in because they have a policy with the manufacturers to only get them from the manufacturers.
The biggest problem is they don't have contacts over here in Massachusetts except Sears and Sears is always booked. I called Sears to just pay for it out of pocket for my fridge because I lost all my food. So then I had to go to Home Depot and buy a fridge. I just bought a temporary fridge because I figured my fridge is gone, the condenser is gone. I'm going to get a replacement refrigerator. My refrigerator still isn't fixed. We're still waiting on parts. And then when the parts come in, I have to get rid of a bunch of my freezer stuff because I have to unplug my fridge for two days. And I've been trying to get my icemaker to be repaired by them which was my first issue.
The other is being in New England and they're from California. They don't have a lot of contacts out here. So when it came to like an electrical problem, they couldn't find anybody in our area. We live in Shirley, Massachusetts and they couldn't find anybody in our area who was willing to work with them. When our furnace started to have an issue, they couldn't find anybody that was willing to work with them because they don't have established contacts here and that's frustrating.
Another thing, can you imagine paying $100 for someone to come out and say, "Oh, yeah, your dryers clogged inside, internally. You just have to take the four screws out and clean it out." A hundred dollars for someone to tell me that. And he didn't even clean it. I had to clean it. I have not had very good experience with them. I make my husband take time out of work now so we lose money so that he can be here to deal with them because I also find that the people they do hire are just rude.
We went five months without smoke detectors in our house because they couldn't find an electrician. The town kept coming here because they're all hardwired so when one goes off, all 11 of them go off. And the neighbors kept calling the fire department and the fire department was furious because three towns over, there had just been a fire where people lost their lives because their smoke detectors weren't working properly. Of course, we were put on warning that they were going to condemn our home if we didn't get this situation taken care of.
In the state of Massachusetts, they only have two electricians. And the first one that came out came out in a horrific van with a half-flat tire who missed two appointments before, was a no-show for two appointments before, didn't know what he was doing, had to call another person and ask them what to do. I was horrified. At that point, I was told my husband, "You need to just deal with this. I can't deal with it." And then they got another electrician. It took them over a month and a half to find another electrician that would work with them.
He came out. He was very good. But still, the problem still remains. He has replaced all of our smoke detectors. He fixed part of the wiring and there's still a problem. The rest of the detectors work but the one in the living room doesn't. So let's hope that no fire ever starts here because we're not going to hear it until it gets to the next thing and that's sad. But I can't afford to keep having them come out and not do the job right. And I still have a house that's not 100% safe.
It's just unfortunate but in Massachusetts, which is where I live, they only have two accounts with electricians. How can you in good faith sell a warranty to someone, it doesn't matter who bought it, I didn't purchase them, but how do they do that in good faith when they can't even take care of what they're charging us for? They're supposed to be able to service all of these things inside my house and yet they can't even provide us with someone to do it. That's not fair. And they wonder why people aren't happy with them.
If you ask to speak with a supervisor or manager, you're not allowed to speak to a supervisor. They take your information down and then within a few days, the supervisor will call you. That bothers me a lot. I think that if you're not satisfied with the quality of service you're receiving, you should be able to speak to whoever the manager is on the floor, but they don't work that way. Because of this I don't recommend them to anybody. If I had known what I know now, I would never have renewed my warranty because you figure you're paying almost $700 a year and then $100 every time you need someone to come out. With that $700, I could have put towards a new fridge if necessary.
Hello Jodi, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for your recent experience and would like to assist you if you're still having issues with your repairs.

Our garage door didn't open and the electrical unit had popped off. When I called the contractor that AHS gave me, they asked me to send a picture which I did. When they saw it, they said the spring was broken and not covered. When I read our policy, it just says electrical is covered, not the springs. The contractor that came to do the work was marvelous and efficient. They came exactly when they said they would, did it very fast and the unit is working perfectly after. The people that AHS send are very good but I am dissatisfied that the issue was not covered.

My huge clothes dryer unit (less than 2 year old) stopped working so opened a case with American Home Shield (AHS) on 2/22/15. After technician assigned from AGO appliance by AHS visited my home I was told a wiring harness need to be replaced and it takes 5 business days to order it. After the part came back AGO found part was defective and didn't bother to call me. I called to find out and was told they re-ordered same part and gave me 2 to 3 business days estimate. Few days later I was told part is back-ordered. So I can't get my unit fixed at least 4 weeks from my originally reporting the problem to AHS. Don't know how long I have to keep loads of laundry outside and keep paying. I asked AHS to assign some other company such as Sears to fix such problem quickly but the request was denied. I wish miracle can happen here as my dryer is still not working!!

I just don't think the repairman they sent was professional. They tell me that he'll call me 30 minutes before they're in the area. So if I live in another city and he's already in the city, he's only going to give me 30 minutes to get there. I didn't think that was right. The repairman just came in, didn't say anything, and just did what he had to. He gave me the paperwork and then in a second he was gone. He assisted me but for some reason he turned me off. It's just like they're wishy-washy. I didn't like that so I called AHS back if they had anybody else and they always told me it was going to be 3 to 4 days. When a termite inspector came, they told me I had water dripping under our house. This led us to filing a claim with AHS. Their repair guy was all good. He found out that it wasn't a pipe under the house that's leaking but a piece of water heater instead. He took care of it as well as the one in the bathroom. He did most most of the repair work but then he had to come back and redo it once it leaked again after he left. I haven't had any problem with American Home Shield. I’ve had a good experience with them. In fact, I've recommended them already to this couple I talked to. I had a heat pump problem and called AHS for a service request. They sent out a contractor. After they came out twice and didn't fix it, and they changed the thermostat twice - they gave me a cheaper thermostat - I requested a different contractor be sent out but they insisted in sending out the same contractor but with the manager. The manager came out and took a circuit breaker off of my heat pump downstairs where the unit is and spliced the wires together to bypass the circuit breaker.
A couple of days later, my main circuit breaker in the house blew. I was at work at the time. My son called me and said he smelled something burning. So I called the manager and asked him to come out. He did come out but my wife didn't know he was coming. I tried to get a message to her. She didn't let him in and she had no idea why he was there because she didn't know the breaker had blown.
I told my son when he called to make sure the heat pump breaker was off and turn the main breaker back on and that worked. My wife wasn't even aware of the whole situation when she got up. I wasn't home and the manager thought my wife was rude so he just left. I tried to call and left a voice mail for him and at the office for them to please call me. I wanted to explain about what happened that morning and then ask him the question about the heat pump, what had happened but he didn't call me back. It was real cold. The weather was bad and we didn't have any heat in the house.
I called a contractor of my own and he came out on a Saturday and found the wires in the heat pump in the inside unit had come loose, shorted, and blew the circuit breakers. Also, it melted the insulation on the wires which I saw for myself and some electrical tape was melted. He repaired that and then diagnosed my original problem that I've called for in the first place. He diagnosed that in about 20 minutes and demonstrated what it was to me. It was something outside on the heat pump defrost board and what the manager had done to my heat pump was dangerous. It was totally improper to splice aluminum and copper wires together because they move. If they don't have a good mechanical connection, they have a tendency to move and come loose. I am angry right now!

I am a property manager who manages over 200 properties and puts in work orders on a regular basis with many different vendors and companies. This warranty company is the worst to deal with and has left my tenants hanging for 1 to 3 weeks without A/C, Hot water, Heat, and now Plumbing. Calling in a work order is like pulling teeth trying to get 1 of their representatives to listen to you or answer a question and then they refuse to let you talk to a supervisor. Their vendors (most of the time) require extra payments above the service call fee to make repairs. 3 years ago I would have recommended your service because you were the best. Now I always recommend anyone else to anyone who asks and when the contract comes up I try to get my clients to switch.

I've purchased a home recently and as per my Realtor advice, I got AHS insurance. I moved to my property on Feb mid (till that time I was staying in a rented apartment) and I took warranty on Feb 15, 2015 and the policy got effective from March first week. Last Thursday I found a leak from the water heater and contacted AHS. The service representative came promptly and I appreciate it. After an hour the claim department called me and said they denied the claim. The reasons are: less history with AHS and pre-existing condition. I told the representative that I bought the property on January 2015. Before that I was staying in a rented apartment and I have the inspection and bank appraisal report. After hearing this they changed the status of the claim to "Research."
I called the claim representative "n" times and left a lot of voice messages. Finally I escalated the issue and he responded to my call and said: the home inspector is not responding to his call. I said I'll call the inspector and add him to the conversation. He threatened me, "I will hang up the call, if you do so. The only option you have is I'll send a person for second opinion and we will go from there." The second service person came and he gave us a copy of the report and in that he mentioned, "The water heater is damaged. May be due to a flood so your insurance company won't replace it. If you pay 1150$, we will replace it. Please note: from 04/15 water heater prices are going 30% up."
My point is, I have both bank appraisal report and home inspection report. Both says, "The water heater is original 2007 model and it is working as expected." The HVAC system is 1996 model. It requires yearly tune-up. So today, I called cancellation department, waited 35 mins, and talked with a representative and cancelled the contract. I requested her to put these issues in my cancellation report and she said I'll only receive a generic letter.

I only have one bad experience with American Home Shield and that was with my refrigerator and it is still not right. I'm really angry about my refrigerator and they were saying that the cooling coil was gone in it and they called Sears to come fix it first. They had to order a part and then it was a big mix-up of who was supposed to fix it and they put the cooling coil in there but the refrigerator and freezer still doesn't cool like they were supposed to do. So my husband turned everything way up and then our vegetables in the vegetable bin froze. You have to be careful about making sure stuff doesn't get close to the wall of the freezer because it freezes up. I'd say they should replace the refrigerator but they replaced the cooling coil and it took them forever to do it. I had to eat out for two and a half weeks to get my refrigerator fixed.
But other than that it's been good. American Home Shield pretty much get back to us pretty fast. We'll submit the claim and then the company will contact us. I was fortunate to have another plumber take a look and correct the problem (not associated to AHS). Unfortunately, I received a bill for $75 from the first plumber for his "analysis" of the problem. I’ve done claims submission both ways via phone and online, and didn't have any problems. I've had AHS for fifteen years. Their representatives have been fine. As for the contractors sent, I've used plumbers, and heating and air. I had one instance where the heat kept going out and they kept sending Myers Electric out. Myers kept telling me it was dirty. I said it's broke and I was paying to have them come out. It went out on a weekend and they didn't consider it an emergency because I have an upstairs unit. So I called another company outside the warranty. They came out and it was broke like I thought it was. They replaced the part for $175 and I've never had a problem since. But one thing in fifteen years is not bad at all.

Most of my experiences with AHS over the past 8 years have been pleasant. However, the plumbing company came out as scheduled, collected their fee upfront, only to come back to my door to tell me that my request was denied by AHS. There should have been more prompts to allow me to describe my issue and/or AHS should have followed up BEFORE assigning someone to come out. I still have to get a plumber to come out. Their process needs to be enhanced for online users with busy schedules. I called to file a complaint and requested a refund of my service fee. I sure hope that is granted as I would like to continue with AHS.

The guy showed up in a car driven by his mom) they sent A Rapid Repair did not bother to put the bottom front panel back on and my husband could not find the screws. The dryer has again stopped working when I called for service. I had to provide proof I paid the last deductible because A Rapid Repair said we didn't pay. Provided a copy of the cashed check and they sent out Sears tech. He said that the bottom of the dryer off could be deadly and I have a young crawling baby!!! He refused to service my dryer and said it was not repairable. I've been waiting almost a week for AHS to let me know what to do. I have a large family's and this should be taken care of in a more timely matter. I have paid more deductibles than a new dryer would've cost. Lesson learned a little late.

We always get a very quick response from AHS when we file claims. We've been using them for 8 or 9 years so we're content with them and 99% of their contractors have all been great. We have one bad experience about 6 years ago. But all in all we're pleased with AHS and it seems to be a good value for what you pay for. They're quick and expedient.

I was just told that in order to renew and have the SAME coverage we have had since 2005, we would have to pay a $535.00 INCREASED premium. I was so mad, I forgot to ask how much they were going to increase the per service fee. That is a 64% increase. Are they crazy or just don't want my business anymore? NOT HAPPY and am now forced to shop for another warranty company.

We have a condo that the HVAC unit went out in the hottest month of Summer. It was a Friday and I called AHS w/ their outgoing message stating go Online to submit Service Requests due to High Volume of calls. I did so and stated it was over 100 degrees in the condo & an EMERGENCY SERVICE CALL. They did NOT RESPOND FOR 5 DAYS! The AC Repair Vendor called to SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 4 MORE DAYS WITHOUT COOL AIR! We have NEVER HAD A REPAIR NEED IN OVER 2 YEARS PAYING FOR THE WARRANTY. We called & found a AHS VENDOR to come HELP US because we couldn't afford to continue staying in a Hotel because it was too Hot in our condo. This Vendor ASSURED US AHS WOULD PAY FOR WORK & our HVAC had to be replaced.
We had to charge over $3000.00 on a credit card & submitted it for reimbursement. AHS DENIED OUR CLAIM STATING WE DID NOT GO THROUGH PROPER CHANNELS, yet AHS Vendor did the work!! We turned it in as an emergency & not 1 call for days when outside of Houston is HOT AND HUMID. I have a baby girl too & everyone was miserable. We pay for the warranty and always on time and AHS DENIED COVERAGE!!
Hi Jayme, We apologize for the experience you had with your a/c service work order during the middle of the summer. Unfortunately, online requests does not support Emergency services. They are generated as normal work orders. To get expedited services, you must speak with an AHS customer service representative. The decision to not reimburse is due to contract verbiage of proper procedures to follow for reimbursement. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, a case manager can contact you.

Our dishwasher was repaired and AHS credited the service fee because we had to wait so long for the repair.
Original Review: March 13, 2015
Our dishwasher began malfunctioning and we filed a claim with American Home Shield online. We were given a time when a repair person would come to repair the dishwasher--"Friday," which meant we had to wait two days. I was not happy waiting for two days because we had guests arriving and entertaining and providing meals for others without a dishwasher- was going to create a major inconvenience. However, we seem to always have to wait a couple of days for an American Home Shield repair, so I accepted it. Today--the Friday that we thought the repair person was going to show up between 8 am and 11 am--the repair person did not show up. We called and discovered that the appointment had been scheduled for A WEEK from Friday, meaning a repair person was going to show up to do the repair 1 1/2 weeks from the time the dishwasher ceased working. Of course, it could be longer if the repair person has to order parts.
We called American Home Shield and complained about the length of time it was going to take for the first repair visit. We spoke to a very helpful person who discovered that there was an appointment available on the Weds. of the following week (one week from the date that the dishwasher stopped working). We had to wait on hold while the original appt. date/date was verified and then more time on hold while she spoke to her supervisor. We asked her to try to find another repair option that is sooner. She agreed to work on it and call me back so I wouldn't have to continue to hold. My impression was that she tried really hard to get the repair expedited for us, but her supervisor would not approve it--so she was stuck. We are left with waiting more than one week for the first repair visit. That is unacceptable. Our contract is up for renewal in a few months and I am likely not to renew. I've had it with delays.
Hi Ann, we apologize for the scheduling and repair delays you had with your dishwasher service work order. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We regret to hear that you may not renew your home warranty with us. A case manager is available to help if you're still in need of assistance.

Furnace was ordered and installed on 3/11/15 around noon. On 3/12, my son & I came home after work/childcare and noticed a strong gas odor in the house.
Then I had to take my 4 year old son to the emergency room, because he had an allergic reaction to gas; I called the Fire Department, who called BGE. Both Agencies noticed a strong odor in the house and a leak on the gas pipe that was not screwed tight. BGE said that it’s very common that contractors don't screw the last valve. I am extremely unhappy with the services I received. Both my son & I could be dead if my son didn't have an allergic reaction. The doctor said that because my son had asthma, he was more sensitive to gas than me.

When I came home one particular day, I go to the Somerset to turn the heat on because it was the coldest day in Alabama. I go into the bedroom and I started smelling something like it comes from a lawn furnace, like rubber burning so I couldn't figure out. I thought I had done something and the house was on fire. I started running around looking and couldn't find anything, and then I realized it was coming from the attic where the heating unit is at. So I went back down. I got on the stairs and then I turned the system off and I was afraid to turn it back on.
I called American Home Shield and the people were really nice on the phone. When I got off the phone with them, it may have been 20 minutes at the most that I was getting a phone call back from the company that they have. They set the appointment. I briefed them on what the other heating company that I previously called had told me but then I was fearful that this is going to take a couple of days to get done, but they said, "We'll be there first thing in the morning," because by the time I got to the other company, I think it was 11:00 in the morning.
So they said, "We can't come now but we'll be there at 7:30-8:00 in the morning," and they did. The good news was when they came, the guy went up. He checked the system out, did everything that he could do because he was trying to rule out problems. Then finally he realized that that was actually what was wrong with it, and then I'm thinking, "Well, no. He's going to tell me he's got to go order a part." He said, "No, I got the parts in the truck." So the guy had the parts that he needed and he did what he needed to do. He'd been here about two-and-a-half hours because he had to rebuild the blower motor but he went back to his truck and put the system out there.
I have also recommended to other people that they get Home Shield. I'm going to transfer my Home Shield in my new house but I'm thinking I've got to work out something with my realtor so the realtor can recommend that the new homeowner can get Home Shield when I sell the house to them.

Everybody from American Home Shield all the way down to the repair guy that came was outstanding. I had a claim with the heater part of the air conditioner, which continued to blow out cold air. The repair guy ordered a part and it was here in 48 hours. He spent quite a bit of time and couldn't fix what was wrong with the heater. However, he was able to get it partially working until the parts came in, and that made a whole lot of difference with cold temperatures at night. He made sure everything worked real well.

Both AHS and ARS Plumbing are in collusion to commit fraud by charging excessive amounts for items that are not broken. AHS sent ARS Plumbing (Houston) to fix a hot water heater that was not working properly; I own two hot water heaters, one was 3+ years old while the other 20+ years. The one that was 3+ years old had a problem with kill switch and thermocouple, while the older was totally fine and only flaw was its age. ARS saw big dollar signs and tried to address the older water heater by replacing it when that was not required. They ignored the problem with the water heater that was giving me issues.
Since last December, I'm having the Hot Water challenges and it has yet to be fixed. Finally this week, AHS had sent another plumbing company to address the ills and fix the kill switch. However, I'm in contention with the old hot water heater that was fraudulently addressed by ARS; I have spent $703 to ARS and another $300 to a roofing company, all for a heater that wasn't even broken. Both AHS and ARS are throwing their hands in the air, harassing me to pay another $750+ to get the overdue on the not-broken water heater they replaced. I have worked with both companies diligently to no avail. This is definitely fraud: they are trapping consumers into something that was not required for them to do. They are too quick in finding ways to charge the customers and too slow at fixing the issues. I would not recommend either AHS or ARS Plumbing.

American Home Shield sent a different contractor this time who found that the original contractor had installed the wrong thermostat. American home Shield made us pay again even though the issue was caused by their contractor. The AHS rep on the phone refused to even listen, just saying over and over again "Read your contract." This rep was quite rude and condescending. My wife asked to escalate our concern to a supervisor, but he refused, just once again saying "Read your contract." AHS has failed us again. It is over 85 degrees outside and our air conditioner has stopped working-- AGAIN. Their solution is to refer us to United Air Temp, who cannot get out to our home for 5 days, and even then, cannot give us a range of time when they can arrive. For 5 years, AHS has been sending a/c companies to our home who charge us a small fortune to put coolant into our a/c system. They are not "shielding" our home from problems because they refuse to acknowledge that our a/c needs to be replaced. They send us to a vendor who cannot provide service in a timely fashion.
When I complained to AHS, here is the (utterly baffling) response: "Unless it is 100 degrees, we cannot send another company to your home. It must be UAT." Whaaat??? When I pay for service, I expect SERVICE. I expect action when a failure has occurred, just as AHS expects payment from me in exchange for a promise of service. They fall short of their commitments by contracting with dubious providers. I discourage ANYone from doing business with either AHS or United Air Temp.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 8 yrs. and have used them maybe once or twice for minor repairs. Well this year my refrigerator failed so I reached out to the company for repair. The company has set up 5 service calls so far and still over a month later I have no refrigerator and I have not received not one call back from a manger for help. I have left over 10 messages for a manager to call me back. You will only get customer service reps on the phone who are scripted to say that they will leave a message for a manager to call you back.
Here are the repairs so far: replaced the board, replaced the board again, replaced the fan, replaced the thermostat, replaced the compressor. I have explained to customer service that I have lost a lot of money in food because after each repair I am told that the fridge is working and it is not. The company states that they will replace the appliance if they can't repair it and please know that this has yet to happen after over a month without my refrigerator. I sincerely recommend that you shop other companies and ask questions prior to purchasing home insurance.
The first would be a test call to see how long it takes for a manager to return your call. This company has no other numbers available on the web but customer service and they have trained their service reps to keep calls from getting to managers. This has been a very ridiculous and stressful time. This company will not respond and you will be stuck dealing with customer service reps who are not qualified and do not have the authority to make decisions outside of ordering repair services. I encourage you to do your homework and make test calls prior to purchasing home insurance and if you take my advice I am 100% sure that you will decide that AHS is not offering the customer service promised to customers.
Hi Lea, if you don't mind, I would like to have a case manager contact you to resolve the ongoing issues you're experiencing with your refrigerator.

The water heater stopped heating, and it had stopped heating for a couple of weeks before I had enough money to pay for the service call. It was leaking on the floor and we weren't getting hot water. When I submitted the claim for it, it wasn't as great as usual. Usually it's very seamless but I was on hold for 15 minutes before I got to talk to someone. I had two questions and by the time I had the second question ready to ask, she hung up so I had to wait on hold for another 17 minutes to ask the second question.
It was two days til they got somebody assigned to make the repair, and then it was another two days til he came out which was partly my fault because he had an opening available, but I had an appointment so I had to wait a couple days til he had another opening. Good thing the repair was covered. The guy that came was absolutely fantastic. He did the job and was clean, polite, professional, and he knew what he was doing. And now the new water heater is great!

The heat wasn't working so I called up their agent. He put the process in, got everything processed within the hour, and within an hour or two, the service provider called to schedule the appointment. Their contractor was excellent, on the ball. The person that came out was able to diagnose it quickly, ordered the part the same day. He came back the following day in the afternoon, replaced the part, and everything worked fine. He knew what he was doing and that's very nice as a consumer to know that whoever comes out, they know exactly what to look for to take care of the problem and gets it fixed the first time. Plus the entire claim was painless and very pleasant.

I've been trying to get my water heater replaced since March 6th, 2015 when my water heater broke down. AHS supplied me with 2 contractors, one that never answered their phone all afternoon & the second came out on Sat. This contractor assessed that I did need a new water heater but refused to service it or call it in for authorization. I finally got authorization this morning to get it replaced and the contractor is charging me $1,049 for "modifications" and AHS won't pay for these as these are required according to this contractor to install my water heater. The contractor refused to give me a list of what these modifications were. AHS finally gave them to me over the phone & changed one of the items but kept the original price.
I called the original contractor that installed my water heater - he quoted me $1,200-$1,300 to replace and install it including any modification required. He confirmed that I am being ripped off and I'm telling everybody about this! This is the short version of everything AHS put me through this weekend. I still don't have hot water!

Took a while to submit a claim as we got recordings, I guess they were busy answering high volume calls, but you can do it online so we ended it up doing it online, automated type thing. The contractor took a couple of days to get in touch with us but the problem wasn’t life-threatening, not a heater or air conditioner, just a small item. He was polite and knowledgeable and he explained things to us so everything went well.
I would recommend AHS to most homeowners. It's well worth the money. It is wise to have a warranty on your home and your appliances because you just never know when it will come in handy. It saves you from spending too much.

I woke up one day at 3:00 in the morning and the house was cool. I went down and the furnace wasn't running - the temperature was below zero outside and I needed my furnace running. So I called AHS and filed a claim without any difficulty. I simply called the service department and they told me who the vendor would be, when they would be calling me, and gave me their number should they not call in a timely fashion. That went well. It took a couple of days but other than that, I have no complaints. The technician who they sent initially couldn't resolve the problem but he was a very professional young gentleman, seemed to be very knowledgeable, and we got along quite well.

We had just returned from an overseas vacation and I was a bit under the weather with a cold and wanted nothing more than just to be in a nice and warm bed. But due to the lateness of the hour that we returned I simply went to sleep, being so weary and ill. I woke up late again the next day but decided to go online and request service via the AHS website. We had a fire in the garage back in 2007 but since then it had been fixed. We hadn't had any issues with that particular outlet, and it wasn't related to that outlet that caused the fire. My husband got up one morning and went out in the garage, he plugged the heater in to warm it up out there, and the outlet tried to catch on fire so he immediately unplugged everything, and it blew the breaker, so the breaker was off.
I made the call and put in the request for a technician to come out and do the repair. I really like being able to go online and file claims because it is easy but after I filed the claim, the company did not call me right away until I called and they found out what the problem was. They called me right back and decided they were going to come right out since it was possibly a fire hazard. So the only suggestion that I have is there should be options on the type of electrical issue being claimed. Putting some way in there to give a brief description of what the problem is would be helpful. That aside, the contractor they sent out was wonderful and the outlet's working perfectly ever since.

The experience with the folks that I deal with has always been pretty good. But I’m frustrated with the claims process because it seems to take forever to get something done and nobody’s willing to completely fix the problem. I've had problems with my heat and air unit for the last three winters. The unit is probably 22, maybe 23 years old, supposedly covered under the warranty but certainly just keeps getting band-aids put on top of it.
The problem is American Home Shield don't do the service and they hire that out to somebody else. I wish AHS had more options for people if they have issues with the company they send. I have humongous issues with the company that they choose to use here in the Nashville area. I don’t have any confidence that the last set of repairs that were done will last for any length of time. I know it can stop working at any minute.

Hi Robby, When adding new services to a contract outside of the renewal time frame, the process is to cancel the existing contract and start a new one. At that time we were charged $490 in freon costs because AHS only pays $10 per pound of the old style freon. Fast forward to now March 2015 same unit is down, already have a $300 larger electric bill, all the freon has leaked out because of at least two different leaks. I recently notified AHS that my hot water heater went out. They dispatched a plumbing company to come out (which took 3 days). It was then discovered that the existing hot water heater was the incorrect unit for LP Gas. Previous owner installed a Natural Gas Unit for LP gas use. So obviously the whole unit needed to be replaced for safety and code concerns. AHS immediately denied the claim, stating that they are not responsible to put a new unit in due to improper installation of the previous unit.
My argument was the unit is not working and would need to be replaced anyway, so not replacing it due to previous installation makes no sense. I am not asking AHS to fix the existing unit, (which is non repairable) however just proceed on replacement with a new unit just as if the original unit was installed correctly. At the end of the day the unit is broken and needs to be replaced. This is the second time I have had a denial from AHS. I am cancelling my contract and will never utilize this service again.

But he did finally fixed it and it is working fine now but it took longer than it should have. On the other hand, we had no problem with the person sent in for another claim for our heater.

Have used AHS almost 20 years. Have deleted many/many/many times their e-mails, basically to give me homeowner tip AND upsell me. For the 1st time today I engaged their offer for savings on new appliances via their e-mail to me. 1st...the phone agents follow a script and CANNOT answer consumer questions...and don't really care. 2nd...once I gave them vendor model #'s, they would quote me their SPECIAL AHS prices.
3rd...Gave them top rated consumer reports top picks of washer/dryer by vendor model numbers (Maytag/Whirlpool & Sears). 4th...Price they give you includes your states sale tax (tx.=81/4%). 5th...Since I am tax exempt, was told they would have to still charge me sales tax. Logical question is WHY, if you are tax exempt. No need to belittle two separate people in the AHS appliance purchasing dept..but dumb.
6th...I ask if they could calculate a price for me and was told she didn't have a calculator. Ask could I speak w/ someone else...was told they would have to call me back!!! Am interested in spending around $4000 with these very deceptive people. Bottom line I would of saved almost $25 on the most expensive units for sale. Agent told me they offered up to almost 50% on some models...However she would not tell me the models that I could research w/ the big discounts. THIS IS A VERY DISHONEST AND SHORT IN INTEGRITY DEPT.

Just recently in February I placed an order and went over it with their customer service. I said to her the light in my kitchen keeps going out. I said it’s not the light bulb because I keep my light bulb okay and my husband went to try and put a light bulb in another time and it shocked the heck out of him. I also told her, “When your service person comes out, they’re gonna need to bring an extra tall ladder about twelve or thirteen feet.” Then I said "Could you repeat my request back to you?" She did.
Then the guy ** from Switch Electric came. I was at therapy and my husband called me. The guy didn’t bring a ladder and never went up there. He just said it’s the light bulb. I’m going no, it’s not. Nobody change four light bulbs every week. That’s not normal. So I called them back. He called American Home Shield, and I don’t know what he said to them, but they sent me an email saying that “we don’t do light bulbs.” And I went what? I didn’t ask them to change no light bulb. I could have got a grandson to do that. But now every time you try to screw the bulb in you get a shock. My grandson could’ve got shocked and killed, and then we would really have a problem.
If they’d written down my service request the way she repeated it back to me, none of this would be happening. When I called back to find out what happened, the person that took the order said “well I forgot to tell him.” I said “but you repeated it back to me, what you wrote down for the request on my order.” So she said “yeah, well it’s my fault.” I said “Well you know what? I’ll buy a ladder. That’s not the problem. I need to know if there’s an electrical shortage or something going on up in here. If I’m up here by myself and I had a short, I’m just burnt toast.” So she said, “Well I’ll have him to call you.” So I went out and bought a 12.5 foot ladder so the next time he came he would have a ladder. But I didn’t hear from him.
I had another issue with Switch Electric before. Two years ago when I had them to come out and do something, they kept saying, “We ordered the part.” Come to find they never ordered the part. So when I said I’m calling Consumer Affairs, all of a sudden they show up. “We just gonna give you some new fans.” It took you that long? I first made my request in March and they didn’t finish the work until July 22.
I was with AHS from my house in Pittsburgh to Antioch to the other one in Antioch, and now here to Oakley. AHS used to be good but now I don’t even think that they interview the service people that they hire. I just think that they look for people that’s willing to accept how they pay things or how they do things. Because if they interviewed some of these people or their references where you find out what’s going on in the loop, they would be more careful about the people that they hire. Then they started raising their prices. They don’t tell you they're supposed to raise their prices. They just go up and you're getting a less of a quality of service.
Now the one good service technician they have is called A to Z Appliances. That man came out here and told us “This is what I’m replacing. Do you want me to take these parts? Do you want to discard them yourself?” He also told us “Well you know eventually you’re gonna have to get you a new refrigerator. You've had this one for a while. But this is a fixable item.” He made sure my husband knew what was going on. They did my washer and my dryer too. They’re very good. That’s not how I felt about Switch Electric.
When I called in February I also told the person that takes the order in customer service, in my master bedroom the fan comes with the remote and the lights thing wasn’t working. I couldn’t just go out and buy another remote, I had to buy a whole new unit and program the remote. I said I had a stroke so I can’t do that. My husband told me the guy from Switch Electric never went into the bedroom to check the remote. So my husband ended up having to put some paper behind the remote and tape it up in order for us to turn the light on in the bedroom and use the fan.

Anyone thinking of buying a Home Services Contract with AHS needs to really think twice. Are you trying to buy peace or stress? Here is what happened. Kitchen Faucet handle came off which was fixed by first plumber sent by AHS. Due to faulty installation, the second one came and further messed up and caused a HUGE LEAK! Rather than fixing the issue, he ordered a replacement from MOEN because it was free but he did it by ground shipping without checking with me, the home owner. I would have paid the expediting fee of $20 had I been informed.
All this while, I had a HUGE leak in the kitchen which we used to clean up everyday despite emptying a bucket kept under the sink to try and contain the leaking water. During this time I kept calling AHS customer Service (takes on an average 20 mins to 30 mins to get them on the call) to try and get the issues resolved urgently but they kept saying to wait for the replacement faucet. When I finally received the part from Moen, AHS informed that the plumber is busy for next 7 days!! How ridiculous is this? AHS expects a customer to wait for 2+ weeks with a broken kitchen faucet which further damaged the cabinets due to the leak! Do they have only one plumber in the town?
Then customer service advised me to get the job done on my own for which I paid $220 (I have the receipt). AHS is now offering a refund of only approx $62.50 for getting this faucet repaired on my own by calling another plumber! There are another 2 faucets which still need fixing and will cost about $300 as per quote from plumber. So as against a total expense of $520, they are willing to pay only $187! When I complained to them about this and told them that I would report them, they said, I can do what I want! Conclusion: Issue reported on February 9th was only resolved by calling my own plumber on 2/28/2015! Choose AHS if you want to have similar experience.

My heat went out and I called American Home Shield and they sent Bailey's Appliance over here. They diagnosed the problem, it's been the bad condenser and they called me two weeks ago and said that they went to order the parts, he'd let me know when they come in and they would set up a date to repair. Well, I haven't heard a word. So I called back American Home Shield and they put me on hold for 30 minutes.
Everything has been great until now and I've been very well-pleased. Every time AHS sent somebody out, whoever it's been, they've done a superb job, but Bailey's Appliance, I'm not pleased with them. Bailey's is not doing the job that they should be doing. AHS needs to get better providers.

We got American Home Shield as part of the purchase of our new home. We had a water leak in our kitchen and called in to have service call. We explained the urgency of the matter and the representative said they would escalate the issue to have service immediately, but our service call was never put in. I was only told about this when I called in the next day to confirm. We put another service call in and it would take 3 days! We were forced to live without water for 3 days until someone came out. This back and forth went on for days. The company that the appointment was scheduled with gave us a 3 hour window in the morning, but ended up coming to our home 5 hrs late! at around 8pm. Once the leak was repaired we found out that because of the delay in service that the water damage had spread through our whole kitchen and AHS would not help cover any of the damages...
We ended up paying an addition $10K to repair the damage to our kitchen. We could have just kept our annual fee and called an emergency plumber and avoided the whole damage. We have had other bad experiences with AHS contractors not showing up, showing up late, our service calls not being captured. We had one contractor come to our home and would not even perform the services that they were called out for! He wouldn't even speak to me - he made me call the office and the office manager would speak to him on another phone!
BE AWARE! We paid for the policy upfront which is a huge mistake! When we sold our condo after only having the policy for 3 months we were told that they would not reimburse or prorate the charges or even apply the unused months to our new home. We basically lost the whole amount we paid. Definitely pay monthly. We have switched to a different company that provides the same service, their service rate fee is lower and the contractors they use are much better. I honestly don't even know how this company is in business.

I went through their automated system and everything went really smooth. About 15 minutes later after the call, the contractor that was doing the work called me to set up an appointment. The contractor was okay. He flooded my garage three times because he can't get that thing from the walls right (he was new) but he got his supervisor. I wasn't upset about it. Things happen but they are professional as far as doing the work. It was really, really fast. It has always been super easy with AHS. I pay my premium and when I need them, I just call them. I went online and put the request in, and the rep called me the same day, schedule to come by a couple of days later and arrive like 45 minutes before he was due here. He texted me if I have time, but I was outside and that I could come back later, which I thought was awesome. The guy was was very professional, explained to me what the problem was, showed what it was and it took him maybe 15 minutes to fix it. We bought an older house and we've had a lot of things done with our swimming pool, and we've always had good results.
The only complaint I have, however, was we had one guy working on our pool ever since we've been here. We have been a part of American Home Shield for ten years and have had three needs for service. One was for service on our air conditioning unit that was solved quickly. The second was an issue with our clothes washer. The washer was putting grease on our clothes. The service man came quickly to check it out. The washer was serviced then and two more times to no avail. Our service man contacted American Home Shield to let them know that it was not repairable. AHS got the ball rolling and we were blessed with a new comparable clothes washer in just a few days, installed and working as promised.
The third instance we needed service was for our microwave installed above our range. It was shooting fire and making tremendous noise. We contacted AHS and they sent out the same great repairman that solved our clothes washer dilemma. He took the microwave into his repair shop, did diagnostics, and found that it was repairable. The same great process was done as with the washer. The repairman contacted AHS to tell them that it had gone to the great microwave heaven in the sky. AHS made the informed decision to get us another microwave with all the timers, heat settings, etc. as the old one only newer! It was received a couple of days later. The serviceman came to our home and installed the new microwave, hauled off the box and cardboard etc. We were very happy.
Every time we have needed American Home Shield, they were there ready to solve our problems. Always We are very, very pleased with them. Always the servicemen have been neat and clean, prompt, knowledgeable, caring, and would tell us about everything that was going on. We have recommended AHS to all our friends and family. Then I've had an issue with the microwave. I called it in, paid the $75 fee, told them to tell the contractor to call the tenant, not me, to schedule. Yet they called me. Other than those issues, it's been a very positive experience over the years before they switched to an automated system where you are put on hold for an hour if you wish to talk to a human being, and this ticks me off big time. Our air conditioner wasn't working. It stopped cooling the air about a month and a half ago. When I filed a claim, American Home Shield has been great but my experience with the actual vendor went bad. The contractor was on time, friendly, knowledgeable. He told me that the compressor had to be replaced, could not be repaired and it would take five to seven days to get the part. About two weeks later I didn't hear anything from anyone so I called the contractor. They said they didn't know what was going on and didn't have any record of the part being ordered.
We have two air conditioners at our house. It's like a split type of situation where one air runs one part of the house. When we first moved in the house, we had a lot of problems with the main air conditioner. We had a completely different vendor and we never had issues like they would come out, they would do their thing, never had problems. And then we ended up just replacing the unit on our own. Then the last couple of times when we've had air problems we had this other vendor come out for our other unit and that's when we started experiencing the issue.
I made calls to American Home Shield; we discussed possibly replacing the unit. So I got some quotes and called back to American Home Shield. I said we're not going to replace the unit, we're just going to fix it and continued to wait. It was a month before the air conditioner was actually fixed because the vendor was not proactive in getting the parts and doing what they needed to do. It took six phone calls on my part so I was pretty pissed off.
AHS does a pretty good job for the service they're providing and we've had them since we moved in the house eight years ago. This vendor is the only time we've really had a problem and what happened wasn't completely the fault of AHS. But they need to be more careful on who they hire to do their work because these contractors reflect on them. I know I'm not the only person whose had an issue with this vendor because I looked them up online after I was having the issue and there were multiple people who were having the same problem that I was. I specifically ask that they not be assigned to me ever again. I didn't want to deal with the vendor anymore but they made me continue using them until the problem was fixed and I felt like they should have allowed for a different vendor to come in and make the repair rather than make me continue to use that vendor through to the end.

The claim process of American Home Shield is always very simple. On one of my claims, the problem started back during the summer and all I did was the usual: I called the 800 number, scheduled an appointment, and someone came out to look at it. I happened to go on a vacation after they came out to look at it but they did definitely come and fix the problem once I returned from vacation.
The contractor that came to my home was probably the least impressive aspect as he was a lot more casual than professional. Although he did fix the issue, he seemed more concerned with showing off the fact that he knew what he was doing rather than just fixing the problem. He wanted to make sure I knew exactly what he was doing, which was nice, but then he also wanted to make sure that I knew exactly how simple the thing that he was doing was, how complicated the machinery is and he just made it seem a little slow. I already recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people just because it's a great service with a great price and really you can't go wrong with it. I used to get a new appliance which would cost you hundreds to thousands of dollars more. It's just a steal.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield is typically a pretty easy process by phone or online. The contractors they send are fine but I have a problem with one of them as they’re having a problem figuring out how to fix an issue in their communication. It’s not great but overall I’d been happy.

If I can I usually file my claims online. The service rep calls, I ask them if they can come at such and such time, and they're usually on time, maybe 15 minutes off but they always give me a call and give me a 20 minutes heads up. They come in, do the job, clean up the mess, and off they go. I've had American Home Shield for at least 12 years. That should say a lot right there. They're Class A.
Janet, thank you for the positive feedback and we appreciate you being a loyal customer! It is good hearing that we are providing Class A service through the warranty.

My heating unit failed 2-23-15. Your service company responded quickly but then everything went sour. I have been without heat during the coldest days of this winter. The service company ordered the part but DID not inform me of this till I called them. Now it is 2-27-15 with no part and UPS will deliver it tomorrow. The problem now is the service company says they will not install it till Monday. I have never had such sorry service and have had no one that really cares if we have heat for the weekend. I would not recommend anyone buying this service. My next move is to call the public service commissioner for the state of Louisiana and get them to call AHS. By the way if you call them you get a call center that can do nothing to help with the repair company.

American Home Shield got my information mixed up when I filed a claim in their website. They sent the technician to the second property which is the wrong property address. Fortunately, I knew the technician and he personally called as he thought he was in the wrong place. On the other claim I had them repair my father's heating unit and I got excited that I only have to pay $75 and I can continue to call them until it was fixed. But I'm not that pleased. They took four to five service calls to get it fixed.
It's a good thing that their contractor, Cliff's Heating and Air, is phenomenal. Their staff was adamant about getting the unit fixed when there was an issue. The lady there rescheduled and she worked with me because American Home Shield won't pay for stuff that's under warranty. She worked with me to get it overnight done for flat $20 fee. This is probably the best contractor that they've had and I've been with American Home Shield for about three years.

It's a comfort to know that AHS has my back in maintaining my home and if disaster strikes. My Air Conditioner went out and the repairs would have cost me over $1000 for parts and labor. Instead it was just the $75.00 service fee. Repaired in just two days from notifying AHS. The repair man was very knowable and had the replacement parts on his truck.

I have been with American Home Shield for nearly 20 years and have received expert service on every occasion I've called. Very professional service personnel have come into my home and treated me with respect and courtesy. The service men's uniforms were neat and when asked, they covered their shoes to cross the carpeted areas of my home. I am a serious neat freak and we do not wear shoes inside my house. I called for service on a Sunday and the plumber showed up right away and unstopped the drain from the outside. One other call was to service my refrigerator which resulted in the purchase of a new one paid fully by AHS. That was a pleasant surprise. Needless to say, all the repairs were completed to my total satisfaction.
When I sold my home and moved to another area where I purchased my condo, I rejoined AHS without delay. I encouraged the new owners of my house to continue with AHS and after I told them of my pleasant experiences, they did not hesitate to get their plan started. They did not even consider any other contractors. I will continue to be with AHS for as long as I am in need of home appliance repairs.

Last time we had a claim was in October. Our refrigerator went out and it was horrible because we had 18 people in our home. I kept trying to call American Home Shield. They kept putting us on hold and we didn't have any time. It was getting late on a Saturday afternoon. We had to drive into the next city and go buy a refrigerator because I have a freezer full of fish. And then we were told when I put a claim in that it won't work, that they didn't give us an approval to do that. I said I had a house full of people and the refrigerator crammed full of everything. We noticed water all out on the kitchen floor as well and we opened up the freezer door and everything was melting. The kids love it because they got to eat all the ice cream we had left. But that was it -- they told us they wouldn't cover it. Before, they've taken care of us but this last claim was horrible.
Deborah sorry to hear about this issue. We do not show a property where a refrigerator request was placed. We would be happy to have someone reach out to assist if you still need it. Please provide the covered property address that this is concerning, and I will have someone give you a call concerning this matter. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!

I have been waiting 8 weeks to have my washing machine repaired by American Home Shield. I called the last week in December to request service. It took 6 days for the "repairman" to come out. He diagnosed the problem, said he would order the part and call to schedule an appointment with us when the part came in. He comes back a week later, puts the part in the washing machine and 2 days later, we are back to square one. Machine malfunctions. Tried calling him for several days to get him back out but he wouldn't return our phone calls. Called AHS, waited on the phone for 30 minutes only to be treated very disrespectfully by a representative. Hi Monica. Basically she did nothing to help. I finally get thru to the voice mail of a supervisor. She calls me back and I fill her in on what's going on. She was very nice and I start believing at this point that my washing machine is going to be fixed.
She gets the "repairman" on the phone and we do a conference call. "Repairman" tells her he has called me numerous times but I haven't returned his calls. LIES. He sets up an appointment with me to come out in 2 days between the hours of 2-6 pm. My husband and I waited and at 5:30, I call him just to make sure he will be here by 6. "I will be there." He comes at 6:05. Looks at the machine and asks if we have the owner's manual. Looks at that and says he knows what the problem is now, has to order the part and will call us when it comes in. 8 days go by and we don't hear anything from him. Call him, he sets up a 4-hr window for 4 days later. We sit home and wait and wait and wait. He never shows up. I called and left a message on his voice mail. No return phone calls from him.
Called numerous times the following day... He finally answers his phone and I asked him why he didn't show up. He tells me that my husband had called him and told him not to come. What the heck?!? LIES. Then he tells me that the part didn't come in. Well if the part didn't come in, why did he make an appointment to come back and fix it??? Then he tells me he got me mixed up with another customer with the same last name. Something is seriously wrong with this man so we decide we do not want him doing the repair. I call the supervisor at AHS and fill her in. She says she doesn't blame me for not wanting him to do the repairs, she said he got very angry with her on the phone. She told me that she will call the project mgr. to get permission to have another repairman assigned to us. Several days go by and a representative from AHS calls me and says we cannot have another repairman so we have to either use the original "repairman" or "opt out."
There was no way we were letting that man back in our house. So they said someone would call us in a couple of days with an offer for us to opt out. Another week goes by and we don't hear a thing. Several days ago, we get a call from the original "repairman." "Guess what? Your part came in, I will be out on Monday." Are you kidding me??? No way are we #1: sitting home for 4 hours waiting for you, only to be stood up. #2: letting you anywhere near our washing machine. #3: coming into our house, you scare me!!!! I call the supervisor at AHS and ask why nobody has contacted me about opting out. She didn't know why but said she would have them call me back by last night. Guess what??? No phone call... Surprise, surprise.
I am so done with AHS. I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB and the Atty. General's Office. I'm also looking into contacting a consumer reporter who would do a feature article on Home Warranty Companies, namely AHS.
Sorry to hear about this delay in service! I would be glad to have a case manager follow up with you concerning this matter. We apologize for this experience and will forward this information!

We had AHS once before when we lived in Dallas and used them and we're happy with the results we received when in Dallas. We moved to Needville Texas a little over a year ago and when we purchased our new house it came with a different homeowner's policy company. We never used it and when it came time to renew our policy after the first year we decided to go with AHS because we used them in the past and we're really satisfied with there services offered. Anyway we asked the person who we contacted when we called to get a new policy on our house here in Needville and specifically asked about the coverages on our Water Well and Septic Systems. They told us EVERYTHING we were asking to be covered WAS COVERED. My wife verified by asking the plumbing for the septic was covered from the toilet to the field lines out in the yard and the person said "YES everything is covered we were asking for."
Unfortunately we do have a septic problem at the present time and when we called AHS to have someone come out and see what was happening with our septic tanks (water was coming out of one of our tanks) the guy who came out sent his report back to AHS and they DENIED the claim. We were lied to by the sales person for AHS and now we have had our county health inspector issue us a notice to have the problem fixed within 30 days or else. We do not have 10-12K to repair our system and now must decide - what to do?
We paid 200K for our house and planned on staying here till we died but it looks like we might just have to leave the house and let it go back to the bank and try to start over somewhere else. Whatever we decide to do you can bet your last dollar American Home Shield will not be who we choose for anything in the future. We were mislead and lied to by the person on the phone when we signed up for this policy. Thank you for letting people know how AHS treats people when they don't want to help them.

Our first call with AHS for service after having them for a year and half was an okay experience. However, the 2nd call has been a nightmare. We had a routine kitchen drain blockage, we got assigned a contractor and it seems all okay. But after waiting for 48 hours without a call from the contractor (we even tried calling them, but they had no answering machine and no one ever picked up their phones) we cancelled the service call hoping to fix it ourselves by snaking the drain.
Well that didn't work so my wife opened another ticket a week later. Again, they assigned the same company despite their previous lack of response. We kept calling AHS multiple times a day without any resolution. AHS customer service twice promised to call us back within an hour... but never did. On our 4th call on day two they said since it's been a while we can just get our own plumber and they will reimburse us (after of course the $100 service fee). We felt that was a good option but we didn't want to deal with having to file a claim just yet... and they said they would try the assigned plumber again by "expediting the service call". Again, we never heard from AHS or the plumbers and the day passed. On day 3, we called AHS one more time. We were again reminded of the option to call our own plumber... and that was all.
So after another 3 days we hired our plumber and got a bill $171. Unfortunately the problem came back after a day and we called AHS to not only get the $71 difference, but also for them to (hopefully) send someone to fix the problem, because the contract says the same issues if not re-mediated after 1st attempt are fixed without another service fee with 60 days.
Anyway, the rep this time told me I didn't do the self-hiring properly, and that my plumber needed to call them to authorize the repair!?! So no reimbursement and no new free service call. That was it, that is where I decided to be done with them. I have realized that if you call more than once a year, they will make it hell for you to get any worth out of the plan. Shame on AHS.

I didn't know that on the fine print, American Shield has 48 working hours before you had to be contacted about the plumber, electrician or whatever. I thought if you called in on a Friday, somebody would call back on a Saturday. Now I'm really thinking seriously because I think a homeowner cannot wait 48 hours. They are excellent when you call to get something done during working hours and get immediate response I would recommend AHS because they have an excellent customer service but would just tell somebody that there's a 48-hour wait before a service comes. I purchased a shield essential home warranty on recommendation of my realtor. 4 days prior to settlement on the home, the outdoor condenser unit on the heat pump outside sprung a leak. I called AHS and was told someone would contact me from American Team. American team called and set a appointment up and they arrived on time. The service man checked out the Heat pump and condenser unit and told me someone would call me the next day. Then he asked for the 75.00 fee.
I gave him check and asked for a receipt. He replied that everything was electronic and did not have any way to give me a receipt. The service truck was un-marked, and he had no business card. The next day I received a call from AHS and they explained that there were a few charges that they did not cover from the contractor. Their few charges totaled over 1500.00. I asked AHS to send me the quote from their contractor and they told me that is not their policy.
The charges were way over inflated so the contractor could make some money because I am guessing the Warranty company dictates home much they will pay the contractor. The only thing they were replacing is the outside condenser unit. Some of the over inflated charges were A wire whip 295.00, a plastic stand 150.00, Adapt the lineset 295.00 on and on and on... I asked the service man if the leak could be fixed and he told me "NO, the unit must be replaced."
I got a Quote from another HVAC contractor to repair the unit and guess what, only 900.00. If the warranty company is on the up and up, why must you use there contractors? I would never consider the purchase of a home warranty from American Home Shield. I think it is on the edge of Fraud... It's Just NOT right! I have never written a review on any business before but I can't sit back and not warn other buyers and sellers of this rip-off! I understand that a business needs to make a profit to stay in business but that is not what is going on here. The only one making money is American Home Shield.

A few years ago, they sent me a person out to fix my AC who told me that the whole indoor unit had gone out and they would have to order the unit. After a week I didn't hear anything from them. They then told me that they were waiting for the insurance and after a week came with the part. But then the guy who was going to install it was different from the original and told me, “Ma’am, I don’t think it’s your indoor unit. Have they looked at the outdoor unit?” I said, “Yes, sir.” He said, “Well, would you mind if I looked at it again?” I said, “Most certainly, you can go out there.” He walked out and he looked at it, and then he said, “Ma’am, it’s not your indoor unit at all. It’s the starting capacitor.”
He walked over to his truck, got a standard starting capacitor that they all carry, and had the air conditioner running in about 10 minutes… I had to wait about a week and a half dying here! Then there was one time that they sent a plumber out since our toilet was overrunning. I was at work and my son was here. I had a toilet overrunning so the smart thing if you ever had a toilet overrunning is pull the handle down on the wall next to the toilet, you turn it off. Anyway, the man comes here, greets my son, and said, “Your toilet’s overrunning.” My son says, yeah. So the plumber goes to the toilet, (now the handle is off), turned the handle all the way on, flushes it and it just didn’t start to wash as the toilet's overrunning, and flooded my bathroom down my hall!
I called up and told them the whole flooding deal. I said, “Only a moron would do this, right?” The guy said, “Ma’am, I don’t know. That’s one of my best guys. I’ll send somebody out.” So the next day two guys came out. One got this little tool that keeps the water from flooding the house while the other one worked and within 30 minutes my toilet's done, unstopped. So I called the guy. I said "This guy unstopped my toilet. I don't see why I had to take a day off for this..."
Anyway, AHS does have a good contractor (Greenway) who does AC and does plumbing. So I called up and told them that's who I want. Since then they've been consistently sending Greenway and I've had consistent good results. So for the most part, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield and that's why I keep them. They're good at making appointment for 24 hours and I can request certain people and they're good with that and they come out as competent and professional. However I'm now having a problem with them copping out, "no we don't fix that" or "we don't cover that."
I've got things broke in my house and they aren't covered. For example, if you’ve got an outlet inside the house that don’t work, they come fix it, but an outlet on carport, they don’t fix it. You get a lighting problem inside your house, they’re gonna fix it, but if it’s out on the carport, they don't do that. This is a safety issue. This is Memphis. I need the damn light on, okay??? They irritate me on bailing on the outside. Aside from that I also have an issue with my deductible. I know the economy and things are going up, but when I first started out it was only $55. Now they're up to $75 and I'm paying almost $600 a year.
For the longest time I’ve held on with American Home Shield because I’m a single working mom, I don’t know how to do plumbing, I don’t know how to do air conditioning, and I can’t afford to take a thousand dollar hit. But there’s a new company that’s been advertising and when my contract comes up in November, I will be looking at the two of them two side by side. I’ll ask this other company what they cover, I’ll ask them if they have Greenway. If they’re cheaper and they have Greenway I may go with them.

Based on email and phone conversations, all the systems for my pool are covered. My pool maintenance company notified me that the pop-up pump motor is broken and needs to be replaced. I made a service request to AHS online so they can fix the part. In my service request, I specified exactly the part that it was defect. Service fee costed me $75.00. Contractor called me to schedule the visit and get details on what is broken. I reiterated again the part and what is wrong with the pool. They knew precisely that the pop-up pump motor is broken. When the contractor (chosen by AHS) came to my house, they told me that AHS is not covering that part.
False advertising, representations and misleading in providing services. AHS has never provided any specification about that part not being covered. Possibly being hidden in fine prints that is very hard for a regular customer to identify when the customer is not specialized in pool services. Note that in my email/phone conversations, they specifically mentioned that "ALL" systems are covered for the pool. Never heard of any exceptions. AHS did not verify the service request. AHS received an email and a ticket request with the exact part that is broken. Instead of notifying the customer that the part is not covered, they went ahead and scheduled the visit. The contractor (chosen by AHS) did know in advance the issue with the pool and the part being broken. They still came to the house only to charge the service request fee of $75.00.
AHS did not want to answer any of my request over the phone and did not want to help in addressing any of my concerns, or admit fault. Requested a refund for the $75 and it wasn't addressed - they denied any requests. All their customer representatives seem to be trained to deny any refund or address any of the customer complaints. Overall experience with the company has been very disappointing and it seems to use all possible measures to charge over $800 in annual fees from customers, only to deny requests and pick and choose parts that are added into the fine print as not being covered.

After two and one half hours, called and asked if someone could stick around as they were running late. Now I am learning it is up to me to find out serial number and call that number into them so they can ordered the part? Why was this not done on the very first visit? Hi, I've had American Home Shield since 1999 in two houses. Through those 16 years, the cost of their service has increased, including the service visit fee. The number of things they're willing to cover has decreased, there are frequent website issues (including no way to reach tech support), and today, I had my second fine print phone call from them that an item wasn't covered. In the first case, a lizard committed suicide on my central air conditioning compressor (not covered - pests) and today, a leaky faucet wasn't covered (because it was a faucet). Many of the service contractors who they subcontract with have told me that they will pay for the cheapest possible parts to fix the problem, even if only temporarily.
In total, I paid them substantially more than I ever got back in return. Take your monthly fee, calculate the money you've put into service visit fees, and squirrel that away into a saving account to pay for repairs yourself. You'll come out way ahead in the long run.

They have joined the AHS family also. AHS has saved us lots of money on repairs and if they are unable to repair the appliance, they will replace it with no reservations. They have made our life stress-free where we do not have to worry when our appliances break down. We just pick up the phone and call AHS, they contact the service providers and the service providers contact us - it's usually done within 1-2 days. We would never go without it and I suggest you don't either.
