At 11am Sears called could not do job for week or so. Called Home Shield told them, and told them it was not acceptable. They said "we cannot find anyone." They would be back with us in 24 hr. My first ever problem ever, am I happy? Far from it. Will I let other people know? Every chance I get. Very poor service to say the least.

I submitted a claim for service on our pool pump last week. A vendor was sent out to do the repair on Friday of that week 4/17. The company was unable to fix the problem and notified your company. Your company then arranged repair with a second vendor who could not come to evaluate the problem until the week of 4/27. Your company offered me authorization for an outside vendor but then reneged on the offer. That was done subsequently by **, then **, then **, and finally ** a floor supervisor. The vendor told me specifically that he told your company on Monday April 20 that he could not come to my home to assess the problem until the following week - 4/27.

I have been given the runaround, been denied access to a supervisor by your associate **, have repeatedly been told that "yes, this situation is outside your service guideline," but basically oh well. It has taken multiple phone calls, too many minutes on hold and much aggravation to basically be denied the service (according to your own guidelines) that I am paying for. I don't see how I can renew my contract with your company or recommend you to anyone else seeking this type of coverage.

My heating and air conditioning unit just went out. I called for service. American Home Shield sends a repair company out and tells me my unit is missing parts. I told them it just went out, how can it be missing parts? I asked for a second opinion and they sent someone new out. The second opinion tells me my unit has been opened and water has gotten in so it's not covered. If the only people who went up to my unit and opened it was companies sent by American Home Shield, should it not be covered? I am really frustrated. Will not do business with a company like this again.

I contracted AHS for my elderly parent's home in Sept. 12. It was a $729/yr policy with a $75 service fee. The policy was paid in full and we used it once for the dishwasher. I chose not to renew the policy. I received an email saying they didn't have a current card on file for "reoccurring" charges. I let them know it was a one time contract. Dec. of '13 my parents started getting collection calls and letters from Transworld Systems Inc., a bloody collection company. My 85 year old father was about to pay it. I am disgusted with their tactics. Do not use them for the sake of other who might fall victim.

My most recent claim with American Home shield was about my leaking washing machine. I called and requested service and got it. Their initial reply was that it would be a week before service but we're a family of four that needed laundry. They found an alternative and got a local service agent out here instead of the original company, so it was great. The claims representatives and the contractors were very good and very professional. The contractor was also very personable and broke down exactly what he was doing, what time frame we could expect. He had to order a part and gave us a shipment date. Everything was great and we will recommend American Home Shield! We’ve been customers for years and plan to continue.

My A/C (Condenser) went out on Wednesday, April 15th. It was late in the evening so I submitted a claim via the web and was assigned a contractor. I called the contractor that evening and left a detailed voice mail explaining what the issue was. Thursday rolls around and I hear nothing, so I emailed and called the contractor again still getting the voice mail. I started to get concerned so I called AHS and informed them of what was going on and requested to be reassigned to a different contractor.

Friday morning I finally get a call from the original contractor and they said the earliest they could fit me in would be Tuesday of the following week (Today). This was unacceptable in my eyes so I called AHS and the best they said they could do was reassign me to a new contractor. The new contractor they assigned me to had been out to my house before and did great work and they were able to come out a day earlier (Monday). The new contractor came out yesterday and figured out that I had a bad compressor and said they would work with AHS to get it repaired.

The next day (Today) AHS called me requesting that I pay, get this, $880 for 11 pounds of R-22 (Freon). Question: Why would a 2.5 Ton system need 11 pounds of Freon (My recharge is 4.6lbs)? I requested a second opinion and AHS honored it and will send another contractor out Thursday to diagnose. Question: Why doesn't AHS validate the recommendations of their contractors (Protect your customers)? AHS, Please protect your customers by doing some due diligence. Don't always assume the contractor is doing what's right.

AHS, your Customer Service department needs work. When you say you'll call someone back, DO IT. If you don't know the answer, just admit to it and find somebody who does. I can go on, but I think you're already aware of the areas that need improvement. Question: Why does it take 24-48 hours to speak to a supervisor or manager? Oh, by the way I still have NO A/C and summer is approaching quickly. Someone Please HELP.

We have been customers of AHS for several years, and although we have had some problems, this time we are looking for a new home warranty company because the treatment we have received has been unacceptable. We first put in a call for a plumber on April 10th, the plumber finally came yesterday after canceling twice -- my husband took off two days of work and the plumber was a no show/no call both days.

When he (MOORE'S PLUMBING) finally did come yesterday it was hours after promising he would be coming to our house as his first stop, and he came in complaining as soon as he walked in. He was completely unprofessional in every way, and he could tell my husband was annoyed. When he called in the problem to AHS, he didn't report the problem accurately -- which was a leak in the pipe -- he said it was a blockage, which (coincidentally) is the one thing that AHS doesn't cover. It was completely untrue and my husband spoke to the AHS rep and insisted on getting a second opinion, which is our right under our contract.

He was told that we would have to pay another service change of $100 and he said that was fine; then the AHS rep said he could not get a second opinion because "AHS does not have another plumber who services this area." This is absurd since we live in Monmouth County, NJ, in a very populated area, and there are hundreds of plumbers around here. Therefore it is ridiculous for AHS to say that they didn't have another plumber to send.

Obviously, the plumber who was here did not want AHS to send anyone else out here double-checking his "diagnosis" because they would see that there wasn't a blockage at all, and his call to AHS claiming there was a blockage and not a leaking pipe wasn't based on anything except a desire to get out of doing anything other than collect the $100 service fee. Now we are stuck with our plumbing problems and took all those days off of work for nothing. Waste of money to pay for AHS every month but when you need it they deny you coverage!! We are canceling and going with another company!

A few weeks ago, my laundry tub filled up with water and wouldn't drain properly. I called AHS, and a plumber came out. The plumber came out and said, "Well, we can't fix this without a main cleanout. That needs to be installed." $75 check written, and I still had a problem. I received a call the next day that AHS would not cover the cleanout installation; it wasn't under warranty terms. When I asked to have another plumber come out and get a 2nd opinion, they said over and over again, "A cleanout install isn't under warranty."

Not what I am asking -- I just would like a 2nd opinion on a possible, different solution. Apparently, this went off their script...and couldn't respond. Now let's think about this reasonably -- if you were told you needed to have brain surgery, insurance denies it, so you ask if you can see a different doc for a 2nd opinion...and they just repeatedly say, "WE WON'T COVER THAT SURGERY!!" Do you think you would lose your temper? Bets are...you would. Listen to understand, people...not to respond. So, I am having a different plumber, on my own dime, come out to assess it. $75 check was worthless.

Next, my oven stopped working. Called AHS again. I explained, "I have an older oven...not every technician will work on them." Sure enough, they request a technician who said, "Oh goodness! Glad you called and mentioned that. Yeah, we don't work on O'Keefe and Merritt...You need a specialty service." Called AHS again. Let's see how this goes.

I had a problem with a refrigerator that died. First problem was getting the first service call. They made the appointment but it was a no show. I called back and was told that that company could not service a closed system. They told me they were having trouble finding someone who could. As it was a Sears fridge I called them myself and arranged for the call. Turned out it was a bad compressor. A part was ordered and I waited several days for it to arrive and the tech to return. About 3 weeks has elapsed.

The same day after the tech replaced the compressor it started making the same noise it did before. I Called in and another call was placed. I waited another week for the tech to return and finally I was told it was a bad compressor. Now 6 weeks have passed and am trying to feed a family of 6 out of a 40 qt ice chest. After several days of calling back and forth I was told there was nothing they could do until it completely broke. So rather than buy food and take the chance of it all going bad again, we are still using the ice chest for anything that might spoil and only keeping drinks in the fridge. The noise is getting worse but still not dead yet. I canceled my contract and am having to buy a small, used fridge for now. Don't trust this company to follow through with their promise of good service or anything else.

I paid for the systems warranty on my house for 5 years and my A/C unit needed service this last week. The system is older, which is one reason I have the warranty. They have a clause to not pay for the coolant on older systems which meant they replace the part and I am stuck with a $900 bill. The AHS warranty is therefore pretty much worthless on older systems. Since newer systems are typically still covered under manufacturer’s warranty the warranty is basically worthless. Service calls are $75 through AHS. Going direct to my local A/C company a service call is $65. Most other items covered by AHS like ceiling fans or garbage disposal, the items are less than a service call or very near. If they replace a fan you don't get to choose from whatever you want. They will replace with a similar quality, but whatever style they have, so again, might as well self-insure and not bother giving away your money for no actual benefit.

I opted for the cash out on my A/C unit as I didn't want to spend almost $1000 on my 15 year old A/C unit. They have not told me how much I am going to be getting for the cash out. They closed my service ticket. I asked for an email stating that they will be contacting me or giving me some sort of cash out and they will not send any written communication. They assured me the call was recorded, which does me absolutely no good. I expect fully that AHS will drag out this process until my contract is up in 36 days and just drop it or send me near nothing if I am lucky enough to actually get a cash out.

Awful service. Awful product. Too much money wasted for nothing. Expensive lesson learned. Hopefully this post will help some people save some money. Self insure!

My experience with AHS is generally very good. Submitting it online is very easy and quick and then I immediately get a response from them and the local person they choose so everything works great, except for one small detail. When you get online to submit a claim, they list a bunch of things that might be wrong with your house and you have to choose one from the list. There are several items that they cover that are on my contract but are not among the choices that they present. So I just have to pick something at random that is as close as I can get.

Also, it's nearly impossible to tell them what my problem really is. They intend for my submission to them to explain what the problem is but it's really hard to do that. I wish they would make it easy. I realize this is probably a big programming problem, but I wish they would look at my contract and see what's covered and give me the choice of everything that's on my contract, not just the 15 most likely things that everybody calls about, which is what they apparently do now.

If they were to make the text box such that it didn't include very many spaces like Twitter, then they wouldn't have to get a whole lot to work. I can explain my claim in a few words. The request would have to be reviewed by a human and I'm sure, currently, it's all automatic. I say I have a leak and they send me a plumber, and when the plumber calls, I have to tell him what the problem really is. So I don't know if the text box would be fine, though I bet they will say "No, we just can't do that." The better thing would be to add 10 or 15 new items to that list and maybe they'll hit me more often.

One time I had a ductwork problem, but that's not an option on their list. So I had to figure out that a duct is in the AC system and the only thing they have to do with air conditioning is 'air conditioning isn't working'. So I just have to choose that. And if they could just expand that to include some of the other common things, then they could still do it automatically. They wouldn't have to have a human, but that would be more likely to hit me and when they do hit me, then it's extremely easy. When they don't, I just have to go through that whole strange step of figuring out which one is going to get me the right service professional and tell him what the real problem is. But other than that, the process is great.

I had AHS for 2 rental condos that I own. I called January 27, 2015 to cancel both. I noticed that my credit card was charged on February 2, 2015 for both. One charge was reversed on February 12, 2015 but the other one wasn't. I called back and informed the CSR that I was charged but I had cancelled the plan. The CSR said that he didn't see that the plan had been cancelled but would cancelled it. I inquired about the February 2, 2015 charge being reimbursed. He said someone would be calling me back to handle that. I never heard back from anyone.

Then, March 2, 2015, I was charged again. I waited until March 24, 2015 to call because I thought maybe it was talking some time to process. The first CSR that I talked to said that she could see that I cancelled in February and that the March payment was being refunded but it takes some time to process. The refund was approved on March 12, 2015 (or something like that). She said she couldn't do anything about the February payment because she didn't have a record of the cancellation request. She said I would have to speak to someone in retention.

I spoke with a CSR from the retention department and gave her the history. I informed her that I requested this to be cancelled at the same time that I cancelled the policy for another unit. She reviewed the notes for the other unit and said that there was nothing in the notes about cancelling for this unit. At the end of the call, she informed me that I would be refunded for the March payment and that it was processing but for the February payment, she would have to have the call rebuild to verify that I made the request. She said it could take up to 2 weeks. I gave it almost 4 weeks.

I called back today, April 20, 2015 and the CSR told me that according to the notes, I am not due a refund for February and March because I did not cancel before February and March. I informed her of what I was told before and asked for a manager. She took down my contact information and said someone will contact me within 24-48 hours.

We called AHS for our AC and the service tech came out and said our AC coil has gone bad and that the coil we have is obsolete so they will have to replace the coil with another coil. If they change the coil they have to also change the outside unit in order for it to work and that it would be our responsibility to pay for the unit. I have spoken to several people including a case worker in the complaint department. But what no one can give me a satisfactory answer to is why have I paid insurance for 10 years and our system is now obsolete and they can't replace it without replacing the AC, how is that truly our responsibility? Our contract clearly states that if for any reason the AC unit needs to be replaced, it is covered. It does not say if the parts are obsolete then it is the homeowners responsibility. My next step is the news and a lawyer.

AHS dispatched a plumbing contractor (F-rating with BBB) to fix our water heater. The plumber has no water heater inventory and doesn't know when they will. Also they claim they are not responsible for any damage to my home when replacing the unit. The contractor wants over $800 to bring the water heater "up to code" which other plumbers have indicated is a scam - this is a 9-year old house. I tried explaining this to the person handling my ticket at AHS, but this fell on deaf ears. AHS will only cover $335 to have an outside vendor replace the unit. You can't purchase the tank for that amount, let alone begin to cover the labor costs. This too fell on deaf ears. We are very disappointed.

After finding out the contractor AHS was sending out to service my AC unit, I called by and went thru the automated system until I was able to SPEAK TO A LIVE PERSON. But this is where my problem started. The woman that I spoke to told me that "I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THIS VENDOR SERVICE MY SYSTEM".

I explained to the woman the issues I had with this contractor and that I did not want them in my house ever again. She then told me again that "I HAD NOT CHOICE". No matter what I said to her about this contractor and the problems I had, she still told me "I HAD NO CHOICE". She could not change the service contractor because that is whom the SYSTEM SELECTED. If this contractor could not service my issue in the allotted time (Today is Friday and they have until Tuesday) then I could CALL BACK and they would select a different contractor. As long as the contractor stated they could service my AC unit by Tuesday of the following week "I HAD NO CHOICE". I don't understand, I am telling her I do not want the contractor the SYSTEM SELECTED in my house but that did not matter.

The last words she spoke to me were "They worked on your Heating System last time and this is your AC system. Maybe you will have BETTER LUCK WITH THEM THIS TIME". I waited a few hours and called back hoping to get a different person. I did, but was told the same thing: "I HAD NO CHIOCE". This woman went as far as calling the contractor and had us on a 3-way call to make sure they could service my AC unit on Tuesday as stated. The contractor said that they could but would put me on a cancellation waiting list. I have been with AHS since I purchased my house 17 years ago and have NEVER received service like this. Apparently it does not matter what the customer wants, it's who the SYSTEM SELECTS that matters. My rating for customer service, value and coverage is solely based on the way they use to do business before the SYSTEM SELECTION take over. My rating for the service I received today is -3 STARS.

I called AHS re a stoppage (water slow to drain in tub). Plumber would not work on it because there was no "clean out". AHS said the estimated cost to build a "clean out" between $700-900. After that, the plumber would use a snake to unclog the tub. I gasped at the cost and AHS said I could get a free second opinion but if I did that, I would then be obligated to have the work done if that 2nd opinion agreed with the estimate.

I've been well treated by AHS in the past (I don't call them if I can help it) and they have been prompt, efficient and well-qualified. I guess "p traps", "waste overflow", drum trap, "clean out" are the pipes and fittings located under the tub. I'll have to research those things and find out what I'm paying for.

I am an AHS customer since January 2015 and so far I have made 2 claims and both of them have been just a miserable experience. The first claim on a refrigerator, took their vendor about 5 visits over 2 months and seems like they have no clue as to what's wrong with it and so they are doing a trial and error process and the vendor also wanted to charge me a second trade fee. AHS send multiple messages to the vendor to send in a senior technician but it is always the same technician who comes in! The last visit by the vendor was yesterday and hopefully this visit has fixed the issue-will wait and see!

My second issue was with a duct out of my bathroom exhaust being broken-a bird got into the attic and broke this and when I called AHS, I told this to the representative and he filed the claim and assigned the work to an electrical vendor. When that vendor called me to schedule an appointment, I explained the issue to him and then they said this is a duct work issue and then AHS scheduled a different vendor who came in and saw the broken duct and said this is a plumbing issue! But I had to pay half of the trade fee since he was there! but he said when the plumber comes in I will not have to pay again.

I called AHS while the vendor was still there and they confirmed it. Next day morning I got a call from the vendor and AHS saying that my claim is denied since it was caused by a bird and that is not covered under the policy! I called back and explained that I had mentioned that it was caused by a bird when I made the claim in the first place and so they put my claim in for a dispute and said a supervisor will look into the claim and call me back in 2 days.

They did not and I called AHS, they said they are working on it and I'll call back within 24 hours. Today (4/17), it is 8 days since I made the payment and 7 days since I disputed the claim and nobody from AHS called me back even once. So I called them again today morning (my 3rd call this week for this issue) and they want me to wait again for 24 hours and would not let me talk to a supervisor and after a 20 minute call send me to a voicemail and I had to leave a message. I worked all my career in customer service and I just can't believe that this is happening but as of now I am still waiting for that call!

AHS contacted me and after reviewing my story and my invoice, have agreed to pay the full cost for the external vendor. The representative I worked with was great...I am thrilled to have this resolution. Still a little sore I had to go through this all to get a toilet fixed but happy they stepped up in the end.

    Original Review: April 17, 2015

Oh AHS, you let me down. I own a 1 bathroom condo unit with an older model toilet. This toilet started leaking. I called AHS and they assigned Vendor 1. Made arrangements for him to come out the next day. Took the day off of work and waited. He showed up only to tell me he couldn't fix my model toilet. AHS assigns Vendor 2. Vendor 2 gives me an 11-2 window for the next day. Take off work again. Vendor 2 never shows. Remember, ONE toilet in my unit. I call AHS. Because Vendor 2 promises to come out the next morning, there is nothing they can do. Take off work day 3 for Vendor 2's 10-12 window. He shows at 2:30, starts work, and randomly leaves without saying anything to me and doesn't return.

After an hour, I call Vendor 2's boss who tells me the plumber injured himself and won't be completing the job. They had notified AHS an hour ago and no one called me. The kicker? Vendor 2 had disconnected my toilet so now instead of a leaking toilet, I had nothing. AHS tells me they are attempting to find some else to come out. If they can find anyone in 2.5 hours, I am authorized to get an outside vendor and be reimbursed. I hear nothing and call an emergency plumber who informs me Vendor 2 royally screwed things up and now my job is going to be twice as expensive. During this repair, AHS sends me notice they found a vendor... which turns out to be Vendor 1, the guy that couldn't fix it three days ago. Now, I’m told I can submit for reimbursement and see what they grant me. They damage my toilet, waste 3 work days, and cause countless headaches. I will be cancelling my warranty.

AHS claims no responsibility for anything to do with the repair after they contact Sears. In fact they refuse to follow up with Sears for any reason and claim that if Sears is late or a no show or repeatedly fails to fix the problem that they (AHS) has nothing to do with it. In fact when I called AHS and asked to speak to a supervisor they refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor. My call last week to AHS went unreturned as well.

It was a painful process when I submitted a claim with AHS. What they do is even though you make the payment of the co-pay, their system will continue to bill you even though it is taken care of. The bookkeeping is sloppy between the contractor and Home Shield so I'm not impressed with that. They kept hunting me for almost a year and a half of a co-pay that I had already paid. When once the thing gets hung up in the system, even if you have a new repair issue, they won't even allow you to make a reservation to have the contractor come until you pay that, which was very, very sad for me and I had to literally go through them saying "I have paid. I have paid."

I even gave them the proof of payment with my VISA card. It just took forever, and meanwhile, the repair that's supposed to have taken place to fix the toilet clogging they never showed up until it was cleared and it was all due to the fault of the contractor and American Home Shield not getting things properly entered into their system, and that caused me a lot of problems. Furthermore, there was also an unpleasant instance that I had with one contractor that despite my repeated request to call me back with when he can go and fix it, he never returned my phone calls and I had to call American Home Shield which is even tougher to get hold of with too many voicemail prompts and voicemail messages. It's very difficult to deal with these people but once they do it, they do it okay but I'm not very happy with them.

My experience with AHS has been really good or really bad. We've had two really good experiences after the first really horrible experience. So it's a little bit of mix. First claim, AHS sent a plumber from Plumb Genius who was just horrible. It was the first after we moved in the house. We had three faucets that were leaking. They came in and didn't even look at the faucets. They didn't touch the faucets. They went back out to their truck and sat in their truck for almost an hour.

They came back in because I had another guy here installing a hot water heater at same time and they said "We've talked to American Home Shield and your request isn't covered because you turned it in too soon. If you had waited a few weeks..." Our policy was in effect. There's no question about that. They would have covered it but they're not really good on plumbing.

At that point, I was ready to cancel because we had paid about $100 for a couple of months of coverage only to be told that you can't turn something in as soon as your coverage is in effect, because I had turned in the hot water heater as we were moving into this house and it was leaking into the floor and gas was leaking from it. There was no problem with replacing it for $1,100 but I've still got two faucets leaking from that first experience. I don't know whether, since it was turned down originally, that it would be covered if I turned them in again. I don't know what to do about that but until now I’m still blaming the plumbing company, not AHS.

Second claim was when we needed an electrician. He was wonderful. There was a mistake made with him regarding the bill. We need to pay the $75 for him because he fixed everything. He had an email on his phone that said he wasn't supposed to collect from me. I had a check ready to hand to him but he said no. That's been a while ago and we never got a bill or anything until yesterday and I'm going to pay that. The third claim was a heating problem. Our heater wouldn't stay on. The pilot ignition was bad but the guy who came was wonderful.

Calling for claims means you have to be on hold for a while but the only problem we ever had with that was the electrician. That was another part of the confusion because I called in and told the person that the hood over the range, the light, and the fan weren't working. The cust service rep and I both couldn't decide whether it was an appliance call or an electric call. First we talked about an appliance and then I said "No. I think it's probably the electricity. There's probably some problem with that." So they sent out the electrician and he fixed it.

Then I got a call from some appliance people and they were kind of upset because they thought they were supposed to come out and I said "No. That was supposed to be canceled." The rep said she would just cancel that. So then we got a call later saying we owed $75 and I thought it was for the appliance people that never came out. So I disputed that. I just called the electrician and talked to him and he went through his records. We got that straightened out.

I have been, what I thought was reliable customer for over 10 years, filing very few maybe not even 6 claims with AHS, & just days ago when I needed them when my a/c went out, the authorizations dept. denied out claim due to me having pine straw on my outside unit. It sounds to me like they are just trying to deny the claim instead of fixing the problem, like their policy states. The worse part is less than a year ago an awesome company came out to add freon & they stated all was well, so this time around we requested the same familiar company & service and were told that we couldn't use them.

Now the new company which barely speaks 10 words to me, tells AHS, they think it is on us, due to lack of removing pine straw from around the unit. Now I'm not asking for a new unit, but I just want mine to work. Why can't AHS, just comply with their policies. So folks who are complaining of an appliance like a dryer, remove your lint trap, because if lent is found they would fix or replace due to debris. But maybe if I added up the hundreds we've paid every year since 2000, AHS, would realize they already got paid to buy us a new unit.

Our clothes dryer has been non-functional for almost a month (3.5 weeks). It is still not working. Placed initial call on March 18. Tech came out within a couple of days, said diagnosis needed parts ordered. Tech was supposed to come back on March 26. Tech never came out (I had taken off work). Tech came out March 27 instead (another day off work). Claimed he fixed the issue, and ran the dryer before he left for a few minutes. I advised the tech that the dryer had a burning smell and he said it was normal.

Within 30 minutes of the tech leaving, the dryer broke again. I called the company and they sent another tech out on April 8. The new tech stated that the dryer was not properly diagnosed the first time, which caused not only the parts that were replaced to break, but additional parts now had to be replaced. They are now placing an order for the additional parts, which are expected in sometime next week.

After the parts come in, they will call to schedule an appointment. By then it will be a month without a clothes dryer. Not only are we paying the monthly premium, but we also paid the $100 deductible for this call, and have spent close to $100 at a laundromat over the past month. Each time I have called the reps over this issue, they sound uncaring, rude, and start reading me my contract, stating that there is nothing more they can do for me. I asked to have a different company come fix the dryer and they refused. I asked how long they would let this go on and they said indefinitely.

Our water heater ruptured. We called early in the morning but did not see someone to evaluate it until about 9 PM, even though we were told this is a priority issue. The service tech did not exactly push to get the new unit ordered, and in fact, deleted a message telling him to move the project along. In trying to contact Union Plumbing in Las Vegas, their phones are busy, it is not an easy task. The original replacement project was not truly acceptable in that the recirculating pump was put in at an angle, not a professional job. The circulation pump then froze up, another service call. That tech told us he would submit the claim and get back go us. That has been at least 1 week with no reply.

I then called the AHS office and was told that I would contacted the next day. That was about 3-4 days ago, no reply from that person, **, and as I have spent an entire day trying to talk to someone, nobody other than the automatic recordings answer. It sounds like there is either nobody working, they can see my phone number and will not reply, or they are out of business. This is service that is about as poor as it can get. AHS does not live up to its implied contract of service. I'm going to take matters into my own hands, perhaps that will move someone of their backside.

The most recent claim I had with AHS was the water heater. It was original and always kept in the garage. The service date they said was much longer than what they expected it to last. It doesn't really take much maintenance. It's just when they burst, they burst and that was it. It was a smooth transaction the whole way through. I really enjoyed having somebody who was knowledgeable with what they're doing that actually came to the house. As far as ease, it is extremely user-friendly. The only thing that I could recommend is that once it is submitted, they call a little quicker. I think most of the service requests that I have made, it’s been at least 24 hours before somebody had contacted us, whether the claim was made in the evening or in the morning. And that typically, for me I would like it to be a little shorter. But I understand that that could be a little out of the ordinary as well.

I have used AHS for many years and never had a problem. I recently called because my AC compressor broke. The contractor that they sent out tried to tell me that I had an electrical problem that needed to be addressed first. I called Center Point Energy who came out immediately, determined that there was nothing wrong with my electrical box and that the AC compressor was tripping the breaker.

The contractor then came back out, admitted that I do NOT have an electrical problem, and attempted to address the problem. They tried to hard sell me on an entire new system for $13,000! Then they tried to tell me that I had a leak and all of my Freon had leaked into the ground and it would cost a minimum of $780 to repair the compressor and charge the unit.

Without moving one blade of grass? When I tried to report this to the authorization rep, **, he got belligerent and argued with me that the first contractor was correct. I 'm deeply disappointed that the company rep refused to allow me to speak to his supervisor and laughed that he would never tell me how to identify him when I complained about his unprofessional behavior!

We had an AHS contractor come to our home to look at our central air and heat. To summarize, he recommended that the interior unit be replaced, then did the installation incorrectly. He flood the evaporator, which ruined our exterior unit on our home. Of course, we didn't realize this and called him back due to the unit malfunctioning. He then recommended that the exterior unit be replaced, which cost us over $500. But the new exterior unit was ruined for the same reason as the first. After getting nowhere with AHS customer service, I posted a negative review. At that point, I was contacted by a case manager who finally began to help us resolve out issues. We requested that another AHS contractor take a look at the work that the first had done. At that point, he explained that the initial installation was botched and caused all of the damage and cost thereafter.

AHS did pay 100% for all further repairs, and agreed to refund the service fees ($75 x 2) we had paid the first contractor to come back and attempt to repair his botched installation. However, I've only ever received a refund for one of the service fees, and AHS refused to refund the cost of having to replace the exterior unit ruined by their contractor in the first place. The case manager actually recommended that I try to have the contractor who ruined the unit reimburse me! The case manager that had been so helpful has since stopped returning phone calls, and the customer service department, who stated that they would have to get with the case manager and get back with me within 24 hours, has failed to follow through as well. Overall, I would say that customer service is beyond poor.

I had paid extra in addition to my contract to get my refrigerator covered when I started my contract. Well I called because my refrigerator stopped working the representative told me it is not covered and there was nothing they could do. So I dug out my contract and called back and talked to someone else who told me "yes it was covered." So they sent someone out to look at it. The contractor said they needed to order some parts.

To make a long story short I have wasted hours on the phone and got no good answers and have been with out a refrigerator for 10 days now and have no idea when it will get fixed. As soon as it does I am canceling my contract with AHS. I have found that their competitors are much cheaper both annually and on service calls and have better reviews. If you are considering AHS go another direction you will be glad you did.

Updated on April 14, 2015: I have already written a review so this is a follow up. After the contractor sent the part for refrigerator that needed to be ordered to American Home Shield, American Home Shield did not order it for what ever reason and conveniently have no record of the request for the part, (although I have confirmed with the contractor that American Home Shield had been informed days ago).

I have contacted American Home Shield almost daily who keeps pointing the finger at the contractor but never followed up with them even though the work order is over 2 weeks old and no progress has been made. Not to mention the part costs $9.95 and I can get it 1 day shipping from Amazon. But on principal I pay American Home Shield over $700 dollars per year for over 7 years now I will not stop until they do their job. One more thing I would like to mention is after my first post on consumer affairs American Hone Shield replied and said a customer service manager would be calling me right away to straighten out the problem. I provided my number but no one ever called "can't say that I'm surprised."

The answer was no, and we were told to take it or leave it. During the hour we were on hold, we googled the vendor and found that he had lost his BBB accreditation due to complaints. We asked to speak to a supervisor and got hung up on. Called back and again asked for a supervisor to discuss refunding our entire account and were told that we would be contacted within 72 hours. 4/9/15 12:51 - I am going to do a real time experience with AHS; might be good or it might be bad. Today is 4/9/15 at 12:30 PM. I just called AHS to request service on two units that were repaired last summer. I requested a specific repair technician that I have had good results with in the past. Was informed that someone else had to make the repairs but I told them that I only wanted Climate Makers (JT Business group). The operator quickly arranged it. Climate Makers is on their approved list of contractors.

I am writing this real time report because of the terrible experience last summer having two HVAC units repaired. It took about 4 months in the heat of the summer to finally repair the units. The first contractor never finished the job. The second put in the wrong size air handler, a 3 ton instead of a 5. The third contractor, Climate Makers, finally installed the system correctly. I must have made 50 or more calls to AHS over this issue before it was resolved. Also, don't hesitate to ask for AHS customer affairs for help (if you are having trouble), because the operators will just keep saying "I am sorry you are having trouble". Even after my horrible experience last year, I still recommend AHS to my customers because I think they are the best of the group of home warranty providers; they just need to work on follow up and customer satisfaction.

I've been a customer for two years and have had a passable experience in my few other minor service requests up until the last three weeks when my refrigerator broke. Since then it has been a complete run around. Despite knowing the type of refrigerator they sent an unqualified technician out the first time. He said he needed to order parts, but then 3 or 4 days later called to say he wasn't licensed to fix it.

On to technician number 2. He came out, thought it was likely one problem then finally determined on the third visit that the problem wasn't fixable as it was a leak in the refrigerator wall. Then it turned into a three ring circus of no accountability and miscommunication. They created hoop after hoop that had to be jumped through with reports, requiring the tech to come out for photos and some other seemingly useless confirmation that is was still broken. They've claimed not to get the technicians reports and then claimed the 2nd technician wasn't qualified to do the work and that the service company recommended someone else come out to take a look.

I immediately followed up with the service company and was told this was not true. After several contentious blood boiling calls they finally relented on sending out another service company, but of course had to send the case back to another department for review. The customer service people you can get on the phone are not empowered to actually solve a problem and the issue at hand is consistently in someone else's court. Countless phone calls, crazy amounts of hold time, no results and worst of all no refrigerator. Easily the worst customer service I've experienced.

After three weeks it was suggested to me to contact the manufacturer because they might take care of the problem. Really, then what did I pay you for? The refrigerator is out of warranty from the manufacturer and AHS is seemingly attempting to skirt their contractual obligation to replace my appliance. I'm probably having one of those nightmare scenarios, but these situations are what you're trying to cover yourself against and it hasn't been worth the headache.

That information was also sent to me via e-mail from AHS. As instructed, I tried to place a call to the vendor but was sent to voice mail where I left a message. Fast forward to 4/6, I am still waiting to hear from the vendor after numerous attempts to call them. My latest call to AHS ended with a customer service representative telling me that there are no other vendors in my area and that there is nothing they can do. WHAT???

It is unclear to me. Do I wait forever for a call that will never come from this MIA plumbing company? Why won't AHS contact a local plumber or have me contact a local plumber and reimburse me, under AHS warranty conditions, for their services. Seriously, the call ended with a "so sorry, nothing we can do" resolution. What do I do now? I am clearly out for my yearly warranty fee and the "commitment for service within 48 hrs." is not only a "not happening" but a smokescreen for a company that does not fulfill the service language in its contract. I honestly feel I am being scammed. A shame since this was my first contact with the company for a service request. By the way.... After waiting in excess of 10 minutes each call attempt to speak to a AHS representative, it took only one ring for an AHS agent to answer to sell a new policy when I tried that number out of curiosity.

Thanks to American Home Shield, we've been without a water heater for over a month now. We still have no idea how long this will go on and nobody at American Home Shield does either. They have provided the worst service I can imagine. We have numerous promises of call backs and follow ups and they have broken all of them. It's a clown show with no accountability or actual customer care at all. I recommend you avoid this company unless you want to spend a lot of money and get nothing in return.

Working on the work order with AHS was perfect and I had no problems with the vendor that came and did the work. The response was very quick, better than what I was expecting. My experience is great. But the only thing that I do have a problem is that when I first purchased Home Shield and I wanted to ask them a question on Saturday and Sunday, they never responded back, not even to an email, and I had to wait more than two or three hours on the phone and I didn't get nobody till I hanged up on a Sunday or on a Saturday. And I did ask the representative is that the way and he said, "No." The calls are more busy. If I have a problem and I have a person at home that's an elderly, am I gonna have that same problem? Because if I'm not here because I'm always out of town and I have nobody at home, if they're gonna be like that, you have to wait. That’s my only question. Everything else was perfect.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was actually easier than I anticipated. I expected it to be a pretty difficult claim and this wasn't--it was so easy I thought I did something wrong. We have solar and we usually don't have an electric bill and we ended up getting an electric bill and we're like 'What the heck?' That's when we figured out that our fan on our AC unit had been running the entire time and figured that our AC was broken. My wife dealt with the contractor who came whom she said was very helpful, professional, and came in and did his thing and that was it. It was a good experience.

We have been receiving statements for a charge that is not owed. It is incorrect. We have tried to correct with their customer service staff but after dozens of hours on the phone over months... we finally cancelled the service we have had for over 30 years. We have paid them well over $30,000 in that time and they lost a customer over $75. We should have cancelled years ago as they continued to raise their prices for both the monthly cost and deductible charges for each event. But the worst of it, is the lack of a system that values a customer's time and proper training to ensure that customer service staff does just that..."customer service."

AHS has been outstanding. We had our whole air conditioner replaced inside and out the garage, the handler and the furnace, and it was an excellent experience with the Family Heating and Air. It does make a difference on who gets that job. Sometimes if something goes wrong with a house, Contractor X will come out and he's not as good as Contractor Y and that's the only variation. Their service is excellent but it's a matter of who comes out and does the work where we sometimes see differences.

This company has an ABSOLUTE policy that everything will be repaired rather than replaced unless repair is absolutely impossible. This includes systems which are critically outdated. My 17 old AC required condenser replacement plus ALL Freon. 3 other companies recommended replacement due to the system is no longer compliant with federal regulations. AHS refused to replace and would only pay $600 toward the $2000 repair as they only cover $10 of Freon. The AC vendor they sent, tried to sell me a bottom of the barrel replacement system, even refusing to tell me the brand of equipment. They also repaired a 17 year old range top which had 2 out of 4 burners which had quit functioning. On at least 1 occasion I had to insist they honor their commitment to service within 48 hours (they wanted me to wait a week).

The heater went bad on the pool, and the first person that American Home Shield sent out here to give an estimate on what it would cost to replace it had a problem with the estimate so they sent a second person out. We're talking way back in December. The second people came out and said what their cost would be, but they said they wouldn't do the work because they were too backed up and it was just too much work for them to take on.

Somewhere along the way, American Home Shield sent a check to them as if they had completed the work, and they called me and said they had only sent an invoice and they clearly stated they wouldn't do the work. Then they got into how they had stopped the check with them and so on. In the meantime, I had to cover the pool and gonna have to get it ready for the summer. It's just been a complete mess for months and months and months. I don't understand why everything just went like it went.

On Monday 3/30/15, I discovered a significant leak coming from the bottom of my hot water heater and immediately made provisions to stop the damage by cutting off the cold water feed and draining the tank. I contacted American Home Shield [online] and received a contractor's information instantly. Since it was late [11:45 pm], I couldn't do anything else until the following morning. On Tuesday 3/31/15, I contacted AHS [8:00 am] to see if the online information went through. The AHS representative said that it did and that I should call the contractor or wait for the contractor to call me. I waited a few hours and then contacted the contractor. The contractor was rude and acted as if I was doing him a disservice by contacting him and informed me that he "would try" to squeeze me in for a visit. I immediately contacted AHS again and asked if they could transfer me to another contractor [which they did]

**Sidebar: I had a previous experience last year with AHS involving my furnace repair. The contractor that was chosen for me showed up at my home inebriated. I contacted AHS to complain and they sent out another contractor the following day. So I'm very leery of their choices from my past experiences. [End]

On Wednesday 4/1/15, a plumbing contractor ** of Rod Plumbing of Philadelphia, PA showed up to "diagnose" my hot water heater. He showed up @ 10:40 am and left @ 10:47 am. He did not do anything but look at it and diagnosed a bad expansion tank. I tried to ask questions about what would cause that and he "fast-talked" me that it could be corrosion around the top or inside the tank, but the tank is bad. I then asked him, "What happens now?" He gave the impression that AHS would not honor this repair because I'm going to make sure that my diagnosis is a bad expansion tank. He was more concerned with me writing out the $75.00 check than answering my questions. All of this happened in 7 minutes. Before he left, he stated that I should receive a call this afternoon from AHS.

At about 4:30 pm that afternoon, I received a call from AHS informing me that my repair claim was denied because of "Secondary Damage" caused by a failed expansion tank. I immediately ask to speak to a supervisor that started a 24 hour wait [through 4 phone calls by me] for a response. On Thursday 4/2/15, totally frustrated and tired of me and my family taking cold showers, I contacted an area licensed plumber who ordered and installed the heater for me today [Fri. 4/3/15].

As he was prepping the old heater for removal, I asked him to examine it and give me his professional opinion of why it failed. He opened the element panel and took out the bottom element and showed me a significant amount of white, gravel-type dirt, and informed me that the water heater was corroded. He asked if I noticed any decrease in water temperature lately. I informed him that we did. The hot water would run out within 5 minutes while taking a shower and this has been going on since January. He stated that the problem could have started by a number of things inside the tank including bad thermostat, and elements, and that the corrosion/sediment exasperated the problem.

I thanked him after the job and paid him $832.00 for parts, labor, permits. I will not renew my contract with American Home Shield when it ends in July 2015 and I will advise, family, friends, and constituents to avoid at all cost. This is not good business and I honestly believe that AHS encourages their contractors to find anything other than the truth to deny their paying, contracted customers' repair or replacement of damaged items. One last note: The contractor [Rod Plumbing] spent no time in cashing my check. It was deposited on Wed. 4/1/15. I guess that was the reason he left my home so quickly. He went right to the bank. A Scam if I ever saw one.

The contractor didn't show up until after 6pm Monday (supposedly within AHS guidelines) and claimed AHS put the request in as a clogged drain or pipe. He said he would place order Tuesday and likely have water heater on Wednesday. He asked me to make sure I don't give him a bad review because it's not his fault.

I received a call Tuesday after dinner from AHS saying the work had been approved. I called the contractor Wednesday and this morning - no response as usual. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited until this afternoon to call AHS. They contacted him directly. Long story short they claim they sent authorization to him but he says he didn't get it. No one seems to be able to tell me if the new water heater has even been ordered yet. I'm stuck in the middle and don't where to turn. I bought this home warranty when I bought my house. Shortly after closing I had an electrical issue that turned out to be a feeder line underground and about 8 feet away from my house but still on my property. American Home Shield would not cover it. They said they only cover issues under the roof of the house. Next I had a minor roof issue. Same thing, only under the roof of the house. Finally I had a furnace issue. I thought finally this scam of a warranty might help me. They sent out an HVAC guy who found that the furnace had not been installed properly so he fixed it. A week later I got a call from American Home Shield telling me that the work could not be covered by them because they decided it was a modification and not a repair.

Sure enough, three weeks later American Home Shield sent me a bill for the repairs. Three times I called and three times they were no help at all. The phone reps barely speak English and each call was an excruciating ordeal trying to figure out what each rep was saying. Also they have my address wrong and two times I tried to get one of these reps to change it but it remains wrong. And they called last night and they sent a guy out this morning to fix it cause I told them that I reported them to the Better Business Bureau because it's not fair what they're doing to people. As a matter of fact, they just called me a minute ago to see how the job went, and if I didn't have the money to pay this trade fee that they'll bill me, I could pay them later. I've been with American Home Shield, close to five years, and I've never really used them. And then the time I need to use them, they're gonna tell me that's not wear and tear. Any pipes in your house is gonna have some wear and tear after 20 years.

I wouldn't pay the service fee because they were gonna charge me the $75 for the trade fee and then they were gonna charge me another $75. I'm 68 years old and I'm on fixed income. I pay them faithfully every month. They get their money faithfully without a problem. So then I called the corporate office, and they called me back, I told them that I had reported them to the Better Business Bureau because this is crazy and they need to be investigated. So they had someone from their corporate office to call and say that this time they were gonna do it and someone was coming out. I didn't know they were coming this fast. They called me this morning at 8:00 and say "We're at your gate. Can you buzz us in?" I was like wow, that was quick. But in the end, I won't recommend them to nobody.

I needed a plumber because my hot water heater broke. Due to the leaking water heater we had to turn off my water to the whole house and I could not get them to find me a plumber sooner than 24 hours. I have children and had to live in sub standard conditions for 24 hours. The plumber wanted to charge me extra at my own expense to come sooner than the 24 hours. When the repairman came, he told us it would be 500 dollars extra (our cost) because our house was OLD and we needed new pipes. (My house is only 22 years old so that is not true at all).

I called my brother who in turn called the plumber at my house to ask what the situation was. Once he figured out my brother knew a lot about plumbing, he told my brother that he had to upsell every service call because AHS doesn't pay him enough. When I asked him to leave, the repair man was real ignorant to me and my family, shout obscenities. When I contacted American Home to tell him of this bad business practice they would not get me a new plumber and told me it is within his guidelines and I was stuck having him fix my problem. I declined and my brother drove 3 hours to fix the water heater that night (not one pipe had to be replaced) for a total of $285.00 which is the cost of the new heater and Teflon tape.

Now AHS will not cover my new heater because my brother is not a licensed plumber. He is a licensed appliance repair man and refrigeration tech though and knows what he is doing as I have not had a problem since (2 months strong). Thanks AHS... we will be replacing you for lack of customer service and employing people who bad mouth you.... and then you stand behind them. I recently bought a home and this warranty was included in the purchase of the home. I have the combo plan that should cover most major things I would think for the cost. I have had significant plumbing issues since purchasing the home and very little help from AHS. My 1st experience was a main drain clog where I had NO services to my home at all and it took 4 days for a plumber to come out. I would call AHS each day to complain and ask if they could expedite and they would say well we can try to get another company but it will only delay. Now that the request has been placed the only way to change the request and to cancel the request and start a new one which would put me at the end of the queue again. I can't believe when a person can't flush a toilet or run any water, (it is a health hazard) to make a customer wait 4 days and there just being no way to change a request to expedite.

The plumber they sent was not good, they complained the entire time that they won't do a main drainage clog again. To make matters worse they don't bring any plastic or drop clothes. They needed me to provide that protection, so I put a painters' plastic drop down to protect my NEW carpet I have. When they were done they left my house a mess. The carpet was literally ruined. They left CHUNKS of waste and toilet paper on the carpet, there were black stains all over. The carpet was soaked through. I had to cut and rip the carpet up. When I brought this to the attention of AHS, they basically said it is up to that company to handle this but that they are claiming the damage was already there! No one would fix or be responsible for that. And AHS was dismissive of the problem and apparently doesn't care if one of their vendors handles business that way so to me this is a direct reflection upon AHS.

Fast forward another month or so later I have the same problem yet again, they send my request to the SAME plumber that I had the issue with before. I waited 4-5 days, calling repeatedly... AHS would say I will call them and will call you back and no one would call me back. The next day I would call, AHS would say 'ok let me put you on hold and I will call them directly,' they come back on the line and they tell me that a supervisor from the plumbing company is going to call me back.

Again no one called me back and I still have NO appointment scheduled. And again AHS says they can't re-route or change the request or it would only delay even MORE. I went days upon days with NO services to my house yet again. I mean no appointment scheduled nothing! I called the plumber directly myself of course and they said they don't have the equipment available to do a main drainage stoppage. So why did AHS put a request through like that? AHS should be calling around asking who can assist quickly with this type of emergency and only processing these requests once they have found a company that can assist. To just put it through to someone when they don't even have the equipment to do the job and make me wait days upon days is completely unacceptable.

This last time AHS finally gave approval for me to use someone outside the system but of course none of the ones they approve of are available so I had to resort to paying out of pocket. I found a great plumber that guarantees same day service without extra fees. And they warranty their work so once they cleared my main clog if it clogged again they would come out free of charge to fix it. Now this is a company that AHS should be partnered with.

I have had 4-5 plumbing issues since moving and the last time it was affecting just one bathroom out of the whole house. The clog was above the main drain line so the ONLY way you can get that out is to remove the toilet and snake from there because if you go through the main drain line you will be below the clog and you won't be able to reach the clog. I mean there is truly no other way to remedy this problem, well AHS will NOT cover any stoppage clearing if a toilet is removed. So you better hope you only have main drain stoppages if you have plumbing issues and that you are ok waiting 4, 5 or more days to have services restored when using AHS.

To me with all of these experiences I am finding them completely worthless. My basement has been ruined and I blame AHS. This very last experience was another main drain stoppage and it backed up in the toilet in the basement and flooded the basement. Now had a plumber diagnosed and handled this properly 2,3 or 4 times ago, this damaged wouldn't have occurred. My new carpet ruined. I wanted my money back but they refused. I will not be renewing this and would never recommend to anyone.

The reps were very good and responsive and they get back to us pretty much the same day to schedule an appointment. The people show up on time. They're effective and they take care of the problem. It's been very, very worthwhile for us and we have actually mentioned American Home Shield to other friends and family members, recommending that in situations like this, where we're in a vacation condo right now and being separated by a 5-hour flight, it's nice to know that if something happens, it can be taken care of.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield went okay, but I would rather prefer to talk to someone instead of all this punch-this and punch-that, and try to decide which one is the right one to punch. So that's my concern but it still goes through and we get a quick response from the call to have someone come to the house, depending on the problem.

We've had them now for four and a half years, and we only had one issue and that was this year that I told them "Don't let those people come back again." Their contractors did not bring what they needed. It was just unreal. And then we had to have someone else come and literally replace the exhaust fan. So that's the only time we've had a problem. But I don't mind telling American Home Shield if I'm not happy about something. They'll hear it. I had them put on our account so they don't send those people anymore.

AHS did not have a well pump contractor to dispatch, waited 24 hours, had to contract my own. Got outside authorization from AHS and because the contractor completed the work without calling AHS, they have denied this claim. Get different stories from different representatives. No calls, no letters received. Wouldn't know what was going on unless I called repeatedly to see what the status is, which all they tell me is denied, even though they had me have the contractor call them AFTER THE FACT to "check the block" for authorization?!? Long hold times. Much fun especially when it's below zero, you have no water in your house with small kids. So waiting 24 hours for AHS to do nothing. Was well worth it so they could deny payment in the end. You also can't cancel your account unless a representative "sends an email" to another department and wait for a call back, but they will faithfully deduct your monthly fee without error.

The claim was for a thermostat, and I had a technician come out last week which would be March 23rd. Well, during the time that he was fixing the thermostat and connecting the common wire, he noticed that there had been a repair done on the control board. So when he completed the job, which was completed to my satisfaction, he wrote up a report telling me that the control board was unsafe to use because of a bypass that was connected on a fan relay for heating and cooling. He said to me, "You really should not be using that, that's a temporary fix." And I said, "Well, I don't know." So I went back through my records and I found that I had an American Home Shield repair done Sept. 6 of 2011 when the fan relay was replaced because there was no air.

So I was very concerned because here I was facing one thing and being told that a previous repair was not safe. And so that kind of affected my feelings about American Home Shield because I had a technician and I was very concerned that this gentleman was telling me that. And it's actually written on his work order that he submitted to me for payment when he left, and it has not been resolved. The thermostat has been resolved but I'm not happy that I have this unsafe situation. It's currently working but the problem is that he's told me that he's made American Home Shield aware that this work that had been done is not safe.

This morning I got a quality review and so I made a note on there. But I'm not really sure who to talk to about it.

We are brand new customers with American Home Shield. I was referred to them by a family member who has had such high praise for the service. We unfortunately had to make a claim when one of our ovens (double oven) went out. We called American Home Shield and after several days they finally dispatched Sears to our home to inspect the oven.

The Sears technician informed me that the parts are no longer available for our oven and that we would need to contact AHS for a replacement oven. The technician had pulled the oven about halfway out of our wall and left it that way. In fact he left us without the use of the only working oven we had (the upper one still was operational). I called AHS and was told that they were waiting for the Sears technician to transmit the diagnosis to AHS so they can determine what to do next. I explained to them our scenario of not having any oven (with a family of 4) and that their contracted tech left us in a lurch. They did not show any empathy and stated they could not do anything for us until they received the diagnosis from Sears.

This went on for nearly a week. After calling AHS many times and speaking with multiple people---I was finally told this last Saturday that the Appliance Purchasing Dept. would be contacting me. Of course that call has still never come and I tried reaching them tonight and was told they are closed. I manage a team of customer service reps every day. I would never allow this type of service (or lack of service) to be delivered to any of our customers. Shame on you AHS!!!

Called AHS to get a contractor out to fix my heating/cooling system - thinking it's just the thermostat. The contractor called me shortly thereafter, but I couldn't make the appointment until the following week, as that would be my day off. Contractor refused to schedule one - kept telling me they would call me the day before. Why couldn't they schedule the appointment?? Very confused, so called AHS twice, and they finally told me that it is in my contract that I have to work around the contractor's schedule and be there when they tell me to be there. Huh? Isn't it supposed to be a mutual thing? So, guess what? 5 o'clock the day before and still no word from the contractor about tomorrow. What am I paying for? Guess the only dumb one is me.

Updated 9/25/2015 - Just wanted to follow-up to my previous post of I think, March of 2015. So, afternoon of the day that I had hoped we had an appointment, but couldn't get anyone to confirm. The heating company who AHS insisted that I use, calls me and wants to come out. Well, I had already made other plans for the remainder of the day and certainly, did not want that company working on my issues, as I had decided to check on them via Yelp (very negative reviews). So, both the heating company and AHS called me several times, after I posted reviews; but no one seemed to care at all, when I kept my issues to myself. Just saying.

AHS could not care less to expedite the service call. All this was due an incompetent tech that installed the wrong boiler hardware that could have caused fire due to late ignition. I had no working toilets in my house because AHS could not make a timely decision on if the work is covered or not. In the end the work was paid for. Meanwhile we had to stay in a hotel for 10 days! Hotel bill paid by me.

I had my house without hot water for 8 days. I will spare the details. Once again, AHS could not care less to expedite the service call to replace a hot water heater. I had AHS back in 1999 and cancelled because they kept giving me the runaround. Recently starting real estate investments, and a friend said that AHS has improved. THEY HAVE NOT! I was told that I could call back anytime if I had questions, or to cancel before March 3. After several calls at different times of day, each which I was on hold for more than 15 minutes and still no answer, I sent AHS an email to cancel my account. No response. Received a welcome email, so I called again, and was on hold for more than 20 minutes before they answered. They said they would cancel the account, and said nothing more.

A week later, I received another email, called again, and this time the hold was only 10 minutes, but found that they had not cancelled the account. Waited on the phone until the person went through my account and cancelled each of the 3 properties. He said that everything was cancelled, but that their Retention Dept would call the next morning. A week and a half goes by, and no call/voice mail, then late on a Friday afternoon, they call MY WIFE and tell her that "the account isn't really cancelled until I speak with the Retention Department."

Called this morning (following Monday), waited on hold for 39 minutes, and finally someone answers that talks slower than I have ever heard, and is still unclear. He didn't ask me WHY I am cancelling, just wanted to confirm my telephone number, email address, and property address, and read a statement that a cancelled account cannot be reinstated. Unless you enjoy wasting your time, I recommend that you NOT enter into an agreement with AHS. As far as I'm concerned, AHS owes me payment for 2 hours of my time.

I had problems a couple days with plumbing which AHS didn't want to cover. AHS sent out repairmen and they did some real shoddy work. They replaced the faucet in my sink in the kitchen. But they used really, really cheap material, and the spray nozzle hose ended up breaking. And when I called American Home Shield, they told me it had been longer than three months or whatever it was. Long story short, I ended up buying it and replaced it myself with a quality piece of equipment. The piece that they put on there was so cheap, it was just ridiculous.

Overall it's okay, I was glad they come out because I was having problems with the furnace and when I turned the heating on, the outside air unit kept coming on. So I had them come back out, and the repairman told me what happened was the last company AHS sent out actually hooked the thermostat up wrong. The one in the hallway was hooked up wrong. American Home Shield was trying to get me to pay them for the return visit. And I'm like, "Wait, wait, wait. You installed it wrong."

I have another problem with my air conditioning unit, and I've been trying to work with them for three years now because it keeps leaking freon, and they couldn't find the freon leak. I've talked with their customer service several times, and now what they're telling me they finally understand I need a new air conditioning unit. But they want to give me the old, I think it's R22, which basically is outdated now. You can't even buy those anymore and they want to put that in and then charge me like 700 bucks to put that in. So again, I'm just gonna go with outside source and go out of pocket and pay for it myself, it's cheaper.

When I called Home Shield again with a problem with my dryer, they sent out a new contractor because I requested the first guy to be off my list. The second contractor was okay. He knew what he was doing and he got it fixed.

Then I called Home Shield to get my first $75 back. They wouldn't pay it because it was too long a time. So I'm a little upset with Home Shield on that one because it's not my fault. They are the ones sending the contractors. But I'd still give them a high rating because they listen to what I tell them and they do what I ask in the end. They have kept their rate pretty minimal. I have invested over $12,000 over the years with AHS and only had minor repairs done and AHS reps have recharged and repaired this same unit without comment about exterior blemishes or the normal wear and tear. ** at First Time came and made no attempt at repair and just reported to AHS that there was damage and it was NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR (AHS contract language) and they voided their contract obligations.

On appeal, ** with All About did not even remove the cover or look in the unit. He wrote that it was damaged and NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR on a 24-year old A/C. I hired a HVAC company and they came, charged the system and the house cooled down. He agreed the unit was in need of replacement in the near future due to NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR of a 24-yr old A/C. I would not count on AHS for anything over $200 in repairs because they apparently instruct their reps like First Time and All About to write opinions in the words of their contracts which voids the customers rights. I would not let ** or ** in my home and you should not either. In my opinion, none of these companies are honorable or Christian as advertised, and neither are their technicians. BEWARE OF AHS, First Time and All About Comfort in Oklahoma City.

We just had our hot water heater go bad and scheduled to have a service man come. The heater needed to be replaced and since the plumber had called to set up a time to come... and he came when he said he would, he had brought a new heater with him if needed. In about an hour we were back in business. The A-1 Haney Plumbing owner and his helper were very thorough, quick and professional. The operator I dealt with at AHS was kind, helpful, and took care of everything quickly. Great Job!

The repair took longer than I expected -- it possibly took a little over a week -- because they had to get the part needed. But once they got the part, they came in and it took about 5 minutes to install it and it was done. It was great and my washing machine has been working perfectly.

When I bought the house it came with American Homeshield (AHS) for the 1st year. When it expired I continued with the plan for over a year now. Since then, I made two service calls. First was about air condition that didn't cool the third floor. The contractor came, spent about 5 minutes and said he couldn't do anything because the central air was not installed properly. $75 service call charge. I called a few times trying to inquire how and how much to fix the problem. No answer, no solution. I had to purchase four window units to replace central air.

The 2nd call was recently. The water heater stopped generating hot water in a cold winter day. It was an emergency call. It turned out that the pilot was dirty and needs a little cleaning. However, It took many frustrating phone calls to AHS and their contractor and 5 days for someone to show up to fix the problem. It's not worth the frustration of waiting and the $75 service call. I called to cancel the contract right away and the representative said she would submit my complaint to another department and someone would contact me, but my contract was canceled as of now. A couple days later, another AHS representative called and left me a message saying that she couldn't cancel my contract without talking to me. I called and left a message, still waiting for her to call me back.

I know AHS is stalling for a couple more days to auto-charge my credit card by the end of the month. I just check my credit card and found out AHS had raised their monthly charge by $8.50 since Jan. 2015. Another surprise for me. I have signed up for Choice Home Warranty. Much cheaper. But how is their service? Wait and see.

I called in a service request to see why the kitchen faucet's hot water had very little pressure when the faucet's handle was turned all the way over the hot. The FIRST repair appointment was 2/20/15. Repairman was unable to fix the problem because the faucet's parts had seized up. I gave him all the information on our faucet: the manufacturer, make, model # and product catalog where he was able to get part #. I have a copy of the work order. The SECOND appt. was 2/27/15. Same repairman was unable to install new part, afraid he will break line underneath. I have a copy of that work order. The THIRD appt was 3/6/15. Different repairman this time. He brought same part back and tried to install again. Same outcome as before, the faucet was seized. He said we needed a new faucet, one handle with spray. I have a copy of the work order.

Fourth appt was 3/11/15 between 2 & 6 pm window. Same repairman as last time arrived around 10 pm. We were not in the kitchen when he installed new faucet. He finished and called us out to kitchen. My first reaction was OMG! I told him the replaced faucet was unacceptable. It's not close to being comparable to the faucet we had. We asked him to remove it and put our old one back. He said he couldn't because he cut the piping. I asked if we could keep our old one, he said no, it had to go with him. I asked him to document on the work order how unhappy we are and I wrote faucet unacceptable, not comparable and I wanted an explanation. I have a copy of the work order. Here is where I needed the assistance of AHS.

3/12/15: Called Polar Plumbing, explained the situation. She will get with technician when he gets in to see if he still has our old faucet. If he did someone could drop it off to us. She assured me someone will call me back today, probably the service/parts manager. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/12/15: Called AHS, customer service rep was rude and said she will send email to supervisor to call me. I called back to speak to another rep. This rep was much better. She looked up my last call and no email was sent. She also said that the tech/repairman should have given me 3 options, I said nothing was offered. I explained the differences and she agreed that the faucet was not even close to being comparable. She said she was going to take this straight to her manager and call me back within a half hour. She also said there is no reason why we could not keep the faucet that night. NO ONE CALLED BACK!

3/17/15 Called Polar Plumbing, had to explain to entire story again. She transferred me to the parts dept. Spoke with a guy who was familiar with the situation. He will call tech/repairman and call me back with an answer today. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/17/15 Called AHS, rep pulled up my file. I asked her if AHS is willing to give up $1,200.00 business, this year. We would add a new home warranty making it 3 contracts later in the year. We discussed the faucet's

features and their differences. She will discuss this situation, what I have gone thru and possibility of losing us as customers with her manager. She brought up the 3 options we were suppose to be given and we weren't. I will receive a call back today. NO ONE CALLED BACK!

3/18/15 Called Plumbing co: I was immediately transferred to parts dept. Left a message for a call back. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/18/15 Called AHS: spoke with an excellent rep. who read my claim file. He apologized for the very bad support and follow up by supervisors/managers. He placed me on hold and was able to get some answers for me. The plumbing co threw out our old faucet. Plumbing co was rude to him as well. He kept me on the phone while he did the email to his manager. He also put me thru to her voicemail and I left the message for her to call me back. NO ONE CALLED BACK! Our old Faucet: Price Pfister single control, high arched spout, side soap dispenser, side spray, stainless steel. Price $259.00 bought at Lowe's. New Faucet: Project Source 2 handles, almost flat spout, no soap dispenser, side spray, metal. Price $38.00 at Lowe's.

    Updated on 06/12/2015

I filed a complaint on 3/25/2015 regarding our kitchen faucet and no one would call us back. Well it seems that customer relations is no different. We finally were called back on March 31, 2015. A female customer relations rep spoke to us about the situation. Listed below are the topics discussed:

    1. She apologized for the lack of courteously and poor knowledge from the customer service reps/service reps.
    2. She said we purchased the best policy, and should have received a comparable faucet replacement to begin with.
    3. She agreed, we were to go out and purchase a new faucet, like our original.

    4. We were to fax her the new faucet receipt for reimbursement.

On 4/19/2015, we purchased our new faucet. (I am disabled and cannot drive. I was sick and housebound so my husband waited until I was able to go.) Many times I tried to reach all our customer relations rep with no success. However, I did leave a message every time. Stating we have the faucet and who will you send to install it. We did not want Polar Plumbing!!!! ----Not One Call Back!!---- from all those messages I left.

On 6/05/2015, we faxed the new faucet receipt to her direct fax number. By faxing the receipt we were hoping for a call back saying she received the fax. ------No Call Back!!!----- I started leaving messages again in hopes our reimbursement check and installation of faucet are currently being processed. ----- Again, No Call Back!!!----- AHS is hypocritical, they manage to call their clients when contract renewal time is near but once our yearly contract payment is made, it's client who, we'll get back to you.

We have had some issues as far as Freon was concerned - the Freon was leaking. But that was the only thing. We haven't had any other problems with the air conditioning unit until it just started getting warm here in Houston and we tried to turn it on. It was blowing but it was not producing any cool air. It was blowing hot air. So that's when we called and made the claim with AHS. It was actually a very good experience we had when submitting a claim with AHS. The person I spoke with was really friendly and got the company out here as soon as possible. So I didn't have any problems or complaints with American Home Shield at all. We've just got it repaired on Thursday and it's been working just fine.

Everything went smoothly. The only thing is if they could explain why the Freon is extremely expensive. American Home Shield only paid for $10/lb of the Freon but the company charged us $70/lb? Because of the compressor that we had replaced, the only thing that we had to pay besides the service call fee of $75, was for the 9 lbs of Freon, and it is extremely expensive because it's not regulated. American Home Shield paid the first $10 so we ended up having to pay $60 times how many pounds of Freon he put in, and it was almost 9 lbs. They explained it to us and my husband understands it perfectly. The repair itself should be the biggest cost of things but for the actual Freon, that was obviously expensive. But that's the only complaint I have.

Around about 2/15/15 the digital display began to malfunction on our drop-in-stove. The repair people sent out to look at the stove didn’t even examine the unit, but made the diagnosis of a failing digital display unit based solely on the description of the problem; this cost $75.00 for them to do nothing!!! We were later given the choice by American Home Shield of waiting 3 weeks for them to order the part or the cash price of the part so we out of our own pocket, could get a new stove.

Well I don’t know where to get a new stove for under $400, so we went for the repair. Cheapest units we could find were about $1,000 on sale. Our thinking was that the range still worked perfectly and we could deal with having to reset the oven once in a while, while the part was ordered. But this is not what happened. The repair company showed back up and removed the part. Upon further communication with the company we were told that they never told American Home Shield they could order the part. Ordered parts take only 3-4 days, but that the part had to be sent out for repair. And that it could be 10 days, three weeks, maybe more before the part would be fixed. In the meantime they turned off the power to the unit so we now have no range at all!!!

Now we have to eat out a lot which is costing more money. And since there was never any examination of the drop in stove, there is no certainty that this is even is the problem, as there are other electronics and circuit boards inside that may be failing. The last digital display lasted nearly 10 years. The part being replaced only lasted about 4 years, leading me to believe that the problem is more systemic.

Considering that we have been with American Home Shield for several years, I would think that it would be time for the company to just replace the unit, without putting us through the hardships of endlessly waiting to see when the part will arrive. Again I agreed to the part being ordered, not sent out for repair!!! Everyone we speak to about this sees the difference except American Home Shield.

As of this writing we have been without a working range and oven since 2/27/15 which will be 4 weeks on Friday!!!! As Landlords, I know that not having a working range and oven for this extend period of time would make the home considered, under California law, uninhabitable for tenants! But what about homeowners?

For us the heart of the matter is this: if every time an aged system fails and a part cannot easily be sourced; if American Home Shield can then force a buyout of the unit through consumer inconvenience, by way of perceived hardship to the consumer by waiting for the part to be ordered or repaired, by only offering the value of the needed part for the unit in full; it makes the warranty paid for near useless, as most systems if not all, will always be valued much higher than the sum of its parts.

We apologize for the inconvenience Brian. But as a warranty it is our duty to repair or replace what has failed. If the item is deemed repairable, then we will repair it or offer options so that the customer can do what they want with the item. The only time we replace is if it is deemed non-repairable. We understand the amount for the part is not enough to cover cost to replace the item, so I can have a case manager reach out to you if you wish to speak with the resolution department. The purpose for the repair money was for repairs, and if we were to give the cost for replacement, it would be at the cost of the warranty not retail. I will have a researcher give you a call to see if they can assist.

However, our current situation with our washer is completely unacceptable and still unresolved after more than 6 weeks. The washing machine will go through the wash cycle, but then won't drain or advance to the spin cycle. The first contractor came several times and replaced parts but never got it working. He apparently gave up on it without telling us. He just stopping coming and then we got an email notice from AHS that a new contractor was assigned to us. The new contractor again came several times and replaced more parts too. I have lost track of all the things they have replaced: transmission, pump, motor, etc. This second contractor finally declared it a loss and said we needed a new washer.

On a side note, I expect more professional service from these contractors. They didn't bother to drain the standing water in the washer for so long it started to stink up the whole house. We had to drain the water manually ourselves the first time. After the second contractor attempted repairs I insisted that they drain the water out. They also left our laundry room a mess after every visit. I expect contractors to leave our home in the same state they found it.

Now even after the second contractor declared it loss, AHS says they will take another week to "review" our case and perhaps replace some more parts. What are they thinking? They have probably sunk more cost into contractors and parts than a new washer already. Also, do they never think of providing a timely repair for their customer? We have to take hours every week to haul all the laundry to a laundromat and pay all the associated costs. Are we getting reimbursed for 2 months of laundry expenses?

Another problem is the lack of response from customer service. After almost 2 months without a working washer we are trying to escalate this case and get it resolved. However, after a number of calls that almost seems impossible. The people answering the phones always say they will have a supervisor call you back. Of course, that has not happened. We are still waiting to hear from AHS.

I'm perfectly happy with American Home Shield. They've done really well. We've called them twice, once to replace an attic fan and once about the heating and air conditioning. AHS is excellent and really fast in handling claims. They sent someone to look at the heating and air conditioning, and he came out and the problem was just a loose wire in the attic. It's been excellent since the repair. I will renew when my contract runs out.

I've had no problem with the service that AHS have provided us concerning our few problems. However, when I had a problem with my garage door opener, the contractors sent by American Home Shield attempted to replace the circuit board but wasn't able to. They have to come back several times before they finally got it right. I just went out and bought another one and replaced the whole unit. They were trying to fix something that wasn't fixable, which was a pain in the neck because it took more time than what it should have.

My recent claim with AHS was about our air conditioning unit not blowing. It was on but it wasn't doing anything. They had someone out here the next day. He was very knowledgeable, pleasant, got right to work, and we didn't have any problems at all. We like the contractor that came out very much and would like to use them again should something else come up. AHS gets the problems fixed.

I filed my last claim with American Home Shield because my garbage disposal was leaking from underneath. I had my son-in-law, who is my garbage disposal expert, look at it and he said, "It looks to me like it's in the motor." When the repairman came, that's exactly what he said and so he did replace it. He was wonderful. He did a good job, cleaned up everything. The repair was fine.

But I feel like the replacement is not giving me the same service as the one I previously had. I don't think it's as good. It just didn't seem like I got a strong garbage disposal. There's no markings on it whatsoever. It doesn't give the brand. It doesn't say how many horsepower it is. I have an orange tree in my backyard and if I'm going to grind up those orange peels, I have to let that thing go forever, so I was concerned. My husband recently had a stroke so my life has turned upside down and I am a busy, busy girl. So I never called about this but that's my only concern.

The contractor did give me a warranty on it. He gave a book but there was no name so I have no idea what brand this is. He did tell me that the one I had was an InSinkErator and he said that sometimes the no-name, cheaper brands are better than the InSinkErator, and he may well be right. But I'm just a little disappointed that orange peels -- and these are fairly soft orange peels -- would have just gone by the wayside in there. So lots of times I don't even put stuff in it anymore. But that's my only complaint.

Service was great. The contractor was here as soon as AHS notified him, then he notified me immediately and he was able to come. The service has been quick so that's good. Everybody has been really great and fast. I would definitely recommend AHS. But I would maybe check out what's the replacement. That made me wonder -- If our water heater goes or if there's a major problem with an appliance, air conditioner or furnace, what's going to happen now? Am I going to get a cheaper replacement or will I get the same as or more of what I had before? But as far as service went, everything was good. The contractor was very good. Everybody was good and my overall experience with AHS has been awesome.

They say they did not have anybody available until Monday, but they would mark it urgent, and to call back in 4 hrs. For this same problem, I left BPG and a contract with AHS and have the same problem. This is my first time using you, but if this continue, I would not wait to cancel.
