I've been using American Home Shield close to 15 years with my transactions as a realtor. And since my personal house was getting older, I also got AHS for it. When I submitted a claim with them, it was extremely easy. When our dishwasher went out before we got AHS, we had to deal with the appliance company and the manufacturer itself...it was a horrible experience and it took three months. I told my wife that if that happens again, we'd be calling AHS instead of them. Since then, AHS has sent us technicians who've been friendly and good. They knew what they were doing and they got the job done.

I submitted the claim on Friday for a refrigerator which had quit running. Putting the claim online was very easy and I got a thing saying Sears was going to call me. Over the weekend, Sears didn't call but I figured it's the weekend. On Monday, I tried calling Sears and they said that they needed a number from American Home Shield. I called AHS and was on hold for 45 minutes, back and forth, trying to get this number. Finally, I got it. The representative was going to transfer me straight to Sears but that didn't work. Then I gave the number to Sears. They told me they couldn't come out until the 14th. I called AHS back and talked to a lady. She was trying to figure out because that's out of the 48-hour window to get another repair person. While she had me on hold, she disconnected me and never called me back. I know she had my phone number.
I had to call back and go through the whole rat maze. And then finally, I got Affordable Appliance Repair. They were wonderful and were out the next day. I'm waiting for them to come today. They had to order a part so it's still not fixed. It's been two weeks. I've had American Home Shield since we bought the house 10 years ago. I love it, I tell all my friends about it. But just the frustration of trying to get the number Sears wanted from AHS was a nightmare - being disconnected and not at least called back. But this was the first time that it was totally frustrating, any other time I've called them, it's been great.

My daughter had American Home Shield and she had a very good experience with them, so I looked them up and signed up with them too. I've only used them twice. The first time was when I had a blower that was out of balance on one of my other air conditioners. AHS got out here and took care of it. The second time was when my air conditioner quit working, so we filed a claim with AHS, and their reps were super responsive. The guy who got here was very prompt, and he found out that the fellow who mows my grass had clipped the control wire outside, so the problem was repaired very quickly. AHS treated me very well, and it’s good value for the money so I'm going to renew my warranty with them. They're great.

Quick response and problem was solved. The service calls do have a 90 day warranty. I wasn't aware of that and ended up having to pay an additional $75 service fee for an issue that was a result of my first service call on the dishwasher. If I would've just called when I first had problems with it again, I would've saved myself the $75. I do know it for future reference and am extremely happy with the service.

AHS comes as soon as possible to check what I've reported, and fix within the possible time if fixable. If not, they replace them. I really like the claims submission process. Also, their technicians have been pretty good so far. The people living in our house before us recommended American Home Shield, and we've been recommending it too.

We have had American Home Shield for 2 years. The evaporator coil in the AC has a leak and needs to be replaced. The contractor that AHS sent out has parts listed as necessary for the replacement of the evaporator (new hanger, new drip pan that is the size of the evaporator coil, etc.). AHS puts these items in the "correcting code violations" category of which they only cover $250 of.
I have double checked with the contractor. How can a properly sized drip pan, that keeps water from dripping onto my ceiling, not be part of the AC system? My contract states that "All components and parts of the following air conditioning systems: ducted central electric split and package units" is covered. They are saying the hanger, seal, and drip pan are not covered even though they are necessary for the proper function of the AC system after a new evaporator coil is put. RUN AWAY from this company. If you think you want a warranty from this company, call them and have the automated system send you to the status update prompt. See how long it takes before you can talk to a person (who would not help you if you do have a problem).

We went through the automated process in submitting the claim with AHS. They assigned us to a company at Florida from Georgia and I googled them while I was still on the call and there were terrible reviews on these people. Apparently, there was foul language and aggressive behavior and I would not have the employee in my house. I waited for an operator to have it reassigned and because it was the heat of summer, there were some difficulties in having it reassigned. But the person that I spoke with from AHS was very good about following up and finding other availability for the work that needed to be done. The new company they sent was extremely professional and friendly. They needed to use a garden hose to clean some air conditioning related outside and put everything back exactly where they found it, even rewound the garden hose.
I very often recommend AHS, but I wish that they would be more careful about screening the companies that they are assigning us to. They should do more research on who they're sending to their customers. It was the one thing that left a bad taste on our mouth since they were assigning us to this company and obviously had not done a research on them.

The ice maker of my refrigerator wasn't working and American Home Shield sent their contractor to fix it. The contractor was nice and prompt. They called me 30 minutes ahead of time before they got here and made sure that someone was here. They came out and they did well of what they're supposed to do. Everything worked out okay. But I guess it's not solved because the ice maker will make ice for a little bit and then it won’t. I didn't report it anymore because it's still not working even if they had to get an additional part. But AHS did good and sent someone out when I submitted a claim. I will recommend them to a friend.

I had a few plumbing problems, submitted my claim to AHS and got a call from a plumber very quickly. We made an appointment. The first plumber submitted his bid and as it turned out I needed a whole lot of pipes replaced but also a new water heater. The bid for the water heater from that plumber was accepted, and he replaced my water heater. He did a great job, cleaned up, was friendly, explained everything to me, and answered all my questions. However, AHS told him that they wanted a second opinion on the bid he put in for the pipe so another plumber came out from a different company. He was also very professional and helpful. He submitted his bid, and that bid was accepted. I was happy with both of them and really pleased with my experience.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for our faucet to be replaced a year ago. It was an easy process, they were friendly and were able to answer my questions. The contractor they sent was very good. I don't even remember his first name but he really was fantastic. I would recommend his services to anybody. He knew what he was doing, what normal costs would be for different parts, other options that would have been available, etc. But it's kind of sad. The contractor replaced my previously high-end faucet with one that was not at that level of cost. But this works just fine and it had stayed working since then. We're satisfied with it.

My refrigerator was running and dripping water out of the bottom. I called AHS and they sent somebody to look at it. And then they sent somebody else with a second opinion. They both said they can't fix the part, it's too old. They said they couldn't get the part and would probably order me a new one and then would let me know. So they emailed me the next day and said they were going to give me a new refrigerator but then I never heard back from them. And I waited 3 weeks.
I finally called and it takes forever to get through to them. And when I finally got through the appliance department, I said to the girl, "Well, when am I getting my new refrigerator? Because there's water leaking all over the front part and I'm constantly putting paper towels all over." And she goes, "Oh, it wasn't ordered yet." I said, "Well, they told me it was ordered." So then she ordered it, and I got it the week later. It took them from June 20 to August 5 to get me one. I also was not very happy with their customer service department. Either they're just too busy or they don't have enough people to answer the phone.

I've had an issue with the hot water heater so I called AHS. They referred me and the company called to set up an appointment. The contractor who came to my home was very pleasant and professional. However, he couldn't repair it and he said that there's a lot of sediments in the bottom of the tank that's why it's not working properly. It needs to be replaced and American Home Shield doesn't do that until it goes completely out. If it completely goes out, it's going to flood my home and they don't cover any damages since they just cover the item. I can't afford to have that happen but American Home Shield didn't help me in this situation so I'm going to have to replace the hot water heater at full cost.

We've been with American Home Shield for so long but our most recent claim was a bad experience. Although the contractor fixed our dishwasher and did what they had to do and we have no problems with it since then, I had to keep calling them just to get results. The people from American Home Shield were acting like they weren't being honest and forward with us. We called and they said the part would be in the next day so two or three days later, the same thing, over and over. They said they'd be there tomorrow, they would call, and it weren't true. I feel like we got the run around for a whole week and that was really terrible. The dishwasher was rental property and we were trying to get it fixed before somebody buys the house. It shouldn't take a week. We want everything to be in working order. I know I shouldn't be expecting or anything but after paying the man $75 cash, we want some answers.

Whenever I call, their reps who answer are very professional and respond to my claims - they get me the right people, check back with me and see how everything went. Recently, they sent someone to come and check on our air conditioning unit. Like their reps, he was professional and clean. But he would have to come back out again because the AC comes on even though we don't want it on. It does it early in the morning, around 3 am, and we don't want that. For my last claim with American Home Shield I had an issue with my refrigerator. They dispatched a company which determined where the problem was but unfortunately, it had no capabilities to address the issue. I had to call AHS again and they dispatched another company which took care of the problem, except that it took 2 weeks for us without a refrigerator and it was very inconvenient. But so far the refrigerator now works. The one who came out happened to be the owner of the company so he knew refrigerators in and out. I’ve been very pleased about that so, if ever this refrigerator starts acting up, I will request this particular company.
The only thing is that there's a little bit of breakdown in communication. I paid the first company that came $75 for the visit which I know was my deductible. Then the second company came and I told them that I already paid their predecessor $75, and the gentleman said, "Oh, that's okay". After my refrigerator was fixed for a couple of weeks, AHS called asking when I was going to pay $75. I said, "Excuse me, I already paid that" and again, I asked them to check. Indeed, the payment was received and there was no issue.
But for some reason, the default company is the first one. AHS dispatched that particular company two years ago to address a dishwashing issue, and even though they are trying, they always find excuses why they can't fix it. Calling AHS again takes care of the problem. I've had decent interactions with their reps who were fair, polite and they try to help. I already recommended quite a few people to use American Home Shield. Not many people know about this type of warranty and it was an occasion for me to recommend and I have no problem with doing so.

I had an air conditioner problem and American Home Shield handles their claims very good. Their problem sometimes is the contractors they hire are not reliable. When my air conditioner went out, I called American Home Shield and right away they got somebody. The contractor called and gave me a confirmation number. Two days later the contractor called me and said he couldn't take the call. So I called back American Home Shield and they got somebody else. Again, the contractor called me and gave me a confirmation number. A couple of days later I called to see when they were coming, and they said that it was out of their area.
So the third time I called American Home Shield they got somebody in my hometown that morning and that afternoon they came and did the job. So satisfied with American Home Shield - I've been with them for years and I'm going to stay with them. But I'm dissatisfied with the people they use to work on the air conditioning. I was very perturbed with these contractors that didn't have the decency to call me to tell me they couldn't make it.

I called the supervisor to find out why they didn't tell me and asked if they would give me the service fee of $75 back. The supervisor told me that he would follow up within 24-hours to let me know if they could credit me. My latest issue was there's no water coming into the washing machine. We were sure it was something from the water spigot to the washer, but the rep said they will send a plumber out first if there's any question. My wife and I didn't think there was. It turned out that where the water enters into the washing machine, they sometimes go bad. There was a filter down there and the second group replaced that. First one was a plumber and he said, No, it’s not plumbing.
The contractors were excellent. They were in and out in probably 45 minutes or less. So far we don't have any complaints. The only problem we've ever had is with me having asthma. We've had air conditioning trouble once every 3 or 4 years and it takes really long to get anybody out because obviously it's in the summer time and there are probably 8,000 people or 8 million that have the same problem.
We have ours checked in the fall and the spring. That would be the only thing for people like me who have health problems like asthma, it’s very difficult. You can't just open your windows in the summer time and breathe in all the pollen so it would be nice if they could get someone out for air conditioning problems faster than they do if they have health issues. But American Home Shield has been good and I would recommend them.

I live in NJ and have a rental property in Corona, CA. I have been using AHS over a year and this is the first time I have needed their assistance but they are not there. The AC broke down and the property manager made and requested for a service help, then, I got an email saying that a contractor should contact us to schedule an appointment. Since no one contacted us we tried to call the contractor a couple times but no one ever answered the call. 48 hours had passed and nothing happened.
The tenant had to deal with a high temperature between 103-108f without a AC. We (incl. property manager and myself) started calling the AHS. Every time we had to spend at least 30 minutes waiting and waiting to speak to a LIVE person. Most of times we were put on hold and yet there was no assurance for the service. Yesterday I was told that they were trying to expedite the service to locate another contractor to do the service and said I should receive a response within 4 hours.
The AHS said that I can call other contractor to fix the AC at my own cost. My tenant was so frustrated for the non service. I was so helpless and I had to ask a handyman I knew for help at my own cost. He had to drive 80 minutes to the property to check the AC but he could not fix the problem. Another 10 hours passed, still no response from AHS. It is a disappointed to pay the monthly premium and yet receive no services. This is unacceptable. This morning I called again and was put on hold and waiting, I was told they are still trying to locate the contractor. It’s too early to call the local contractor. Even they find a contractor and we will still need to schedule and wait for appointment.
I believe AHS claims on their ads for their 7 day 24 hours service. At this time I was given the permission to find and use an outside contractor who can do the service. But the service technician must call this 800-2511608 for authorization for the diagnoses and cost. I then immediately called and found a local contractor who can do the service this afternoon. The technician went and check the AC, found the problem and tried to call the 800 number but no one answered the phone. While he was still fixing the AC my property manager called and again over 20-30 minutes no one answered the phone. After we paid the service guy so he could fix and leave. After that we called the 800 - still no response, just ended up with music forever. I am very disappointed with this AHS. I called the customer service and they said the serviceman must call or they will not reimburse me.
I ask to speak to the manager and was put on hold and told me, their staff, had no manager who could speak to me. I then ask if the manager can contact me? I will wait and see. I am honestly frustrated by my experience and from it feel like I have been paying the premiums to receive nothing in return, not a reliable service at all. Please do not bother with this company. You just waste your money and precious time plus big disappointment. It is not worth it. Everything I said is true and I am willing to testify.

I checked the contract and it said AHS didn't pay to access repairs, EXCEPT plumbing and ductwork.
I then checked the plumbing section of the contract and it say "Where covered repairs require access to plumbing systems, AHS will only provide access to plumbing systems through unobstructed walls, ceilings or floors, and will return access openings to a rough finish." The repair I needed was on a naked wall with no obstructions to it. I called AHS back and brought this to their attention. I was told that "unobstructed wall" meant a block wall so they would not cover opening or closing the wall.
I argued that an unobstructed wall was exactly what I had as there were no obstructions to the wall. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was sent to that person's voicemail. I never received a call back. I called back again and went through the same garbage and again requested to speak to a supervisor. This happened 2 weeks ago and still haven't received a call back. Would I recommend AHS, NO. They hide behind their contract when it suits them and create new meaning to words..

My water heater was leaking water and we called for service. We were told immediately by the repair team that the water heater had to be replaced. The technician also informed us that American Home Shield does not cover any additional upgrades that would be required in order for the water heater to be brought up to code. We did need some minor upgrades, like a larger diameter vent pipe, and a new gas valve. In addition to this, we inquired about having a pan installed underneath the heater. According to the technician, our additional fees should cost less than 200.00 (including the pan which was 40.00), however when we received a call from the repair company we were informed that the repairs were going to cost us over 600.00. When asked why, we were told that the permit was 250.00, the pan was 100.00, etc.
After calling my township and discovering that the permit fee was only 50.00 and the pan cost 20.00 at a local building supply store I called American Home Shield to tell them that we were being taken advantage of by the repair company and that we would like to request another company to do the installation. American Home Shield said that they are unable to assign another repair company to the job. Our only option was to go through them or to find a licensed/insured plumber on our own and we would be reimbursed through their cash options department. American Home Shield would not even recommend another repair company for us or give us a list of the companies they use. They also said that it would take the "options department" 48 hours to process the claim and tell us the amount that they reimburse.
Of course this conversation took place on a Thursday, which meant we would not the figure until Monday, meanwhile our current water heater was leaking all over the floor. We decided to hire a contractor to complete the job in hopes that American Home Shield would cover the amount. Having had a water heater replaced in my last home for 1,200.00, I had a pretty good idea what the job was going to cost. On Monday I received a call from Home Shield saying that they would cover 509.00. Once again I priced out a 50-gallon water heater from a local building supply store and the cheapest I could find was for that exact same amount. That didn't include the installation, and we all know how much certified/insured plumbers charge an hour. So in the end, we ended up paying 691.00 for water heater installation that was supposed to be covered under a home warranty!!!

When I've called AHS about it, they said I could pay another $75 for them to send out someone else. No way! I'm not paying them another cent.
Their phone staff is incompetent and have no understanding of customer service. When I called to check on the status of my claim they told me it had been denied. No one had called to tell me and it had been a week since I'd originally called. I told them I wanted to dispute it and they said they'd take care of that for me. Again, it didn't happen. I called again to dispute and see what was happening. When would I get my sink fixed?? I've called 3 times just trying to dispute it and find out what's going on and no one can answer my questions or help me at all. Both AHS and the plumbing company, Hodges Plumbing are horrible companies!

The fee that we pay for them to come out is reasonable but we had a water heater that went out and it took a week to get it fixed, because they determined that it was not that they could fix it but they needed to order the parts.
We had the same problem with a new furnace that we got. We went without heat for 8 days or more, so with regard to timeliness, they get right back to you. The question is whether or not they are going to try to fix the item or try to buy a new item for you, and then that takes time and having no hot water for a week was not easy. This happened 2 winters ago, but they made good on their promise to get us either a new furnace or fix it. We're going to keep the product however. It was quite the process to get this repair done. It took two weeks. The washing machine was not spinning the water out and was giving me an unbalanced load error code. I submitted a claim online and I got an immediate response that they had assigned Sears to do the repair. American Home Shield says that they will contact me within 48 hours, but I lost two and a half days just waiting on Sears to schedule an appointment since I submitted a claim. Most of the companies call back same day.
I spent much of the time getting through to the right department. For each call I made to the 800 number that AHS's voice mail gave me, I had to go through the whole story again and I was left on hold for long times and then was transferred to a different department. I finally got somebody that could help me and schedule the appointment for September 1st which was more than a month away but was not gonna work. I went back online on AHS to figure out what to do but I found no way online to submit and get a different provider so eventually I decided to call again, was again put on a long hold, but I found out they indeed reassigned the repair to another company which called back the same day to come and look.
The repair guy came out the next day and looked at my washing machine, but then said they had to order the part. When the company called me, they didn't even ask me what was wrong with it. They just said they had to look at it. I still suspect if they had asked me what was wrong with it, they likely could have brought the correct part to fix it but they didn't even want to know. They just wanted to come and look. Now it's been a whole week since that Friday that they've looked at the washing machine. I expected them to call Wednesday at the latest to schedule their return for the repair but I've heard nothing from them at all so I called them Wednesday morning and they told me the part is still on order. It's supposed to come tomorrow, on Thursday, but their truck doesn't come until after 2:00 so the repair was scheduled between 11:00 and 1:00 on Friday. But they finally came Saturday.
My definite impression was Sears just didn't want to do warranty work with AHS because of the reaction I was getting that I had to talk to at least four people for more than a month before being told that they couldn't give me an appointment. If I had called Sears and I was paying them to come out and do it, they would have come out. They seemed clueless and didn't want the work.

Day 1, Monday, August 10, 2015: I opened a claim for my air conditioning unit in Florida not functioning. I was told a contractor would contact me within 24 hrs. Since it was in the middle of summer I wanted to see if there was a way to contact the company and pay extra for an emergency visit. The company said they would not be able to get out to the property until the following Monday 7 days later. I called back into the servicing department and after being on hold for 45 minutes they stated there was nothing they could do. I attempted to escalate to a supervisor and was told there was no supervisors to assist that they would submit a form and have one call me back. Now 5 pm in the afternoon and still no calls. Called back to their servicing dept and after being on hold for another 45 minutes I was able to get a new company assigned.
Day 2, August 11, 2015: The tech from the second company who was very responsive called me back immediately and said he could be there between 11-1pm ET. The tech arrived when he said, diagnosed the problem as a bad compressor. He mentioned he had to call American Home Shield to get permissions to fix. He had the part and could fix immediately. After a conversation with a servicing rep he was told he should not fix and they would order the part for him.
Day 3, August 12, 2015: Still no word from American Home Shield. Called their servicing center again, this time on hold for 57 minutes and the rep stated she would have to send an email to the parts department for a status. No call back again, so after sitting on hold for another 45 mins we told the parts dept was closed and there was nothing they could do today. Day 4, August 13, 2015: Still no callbacks from American home shield after several calls and again waiting on hold for 45 mins. We got a rep who actually followed through on a callback. She mentioned they still had not heard from the parts dept but she would place an expedite on the order.
Day 5, August 14 2015: Still no callback from American home shield. After calling in at 3pm when the parts dept was still open was told another form was submitted and there was nothing they can do, and they could not hold because parts dept had a long hold time. It's now 5pm on a Friday. After another lengthy 45 min hold, I was hung up on.
Called back in and after a 62 minute hold a rep answers. I continued to explain the situation and asked for them to give me a tracking # and ETA for the part to be delivered, the rep said "I don't have that information in the system." I asked for her to call the parts dept and she said that a form was submitted and couldn't. After pressing the conversation a little harder I asked to call them and she said "no they are closed." I then asked to speak to a supervisor and she said "no there are none here." I continued to ask for one and she said "no they are all in meeting and can't take a call." I continued to insist to speak to one and she said "hold on, I'll transfer you", and sent the call to a voicemail.
Day 6, August 15 2015: Still no call from American home shield. Called back in only a 20 minute wait today. The tech said "sorry the parts dept is closed till Monday, nothing we can do." I asked if a supervisor could verbally give the company permission to replace the part and was told no supervisors available to do that. Ask to speak to supervisor, told no need to submit form. I said "already submitted form." Placed on hold and supervisor said she wouldn't get on phone to send an email.

American Home Shield, up until today, has been excellent. I've had general satisfaction from them, but now, I would summarize my overall experience as fair. Basically, they've adopted a new policy that any home warranty item that you contact a vendor for, instead of getting it fixed right on the spot, the vendor has to jump through hoops to call them for authorization. It can delay it up to two or three days and that's just not acceptable. That's a shame because I would say they were probably the best in the market, as far as home warranty companies go. I got a renewal coming up next month, but now I'm actually thinking about it.

I placed a service call with AHS over two weeks ago. The first time, the repair co. didn't call me to set an appt. I ended up calling and leaving messages but still no response. Finally a week later, the repairman called that he was at our house and wondered where we were. He didn't even look at the hot tub. The electrical is messed up. He told AHS it was "sand in the filter" which has nothing to do with our issue.
We asked AHS to send out someone else. They said they'd send the same guy again. Again, no calls and we have to chase him. We set an appt and he doesn't show up. It's been extremely disappointing. Lots and lots of calls, long long wait times (over an hour and half) and no repair work done. I wouldn't recommend either AHS or this repairman to my worst enemy.

AHS is using unlicensed contractors. In Oklahoma it's that law that a technician hold a Oklahoma construction board license applicable to his/her trade. AHS called all comfort solutions out to my home. Their technician doesn't even hold an apprentice license for Oklahoma. This is illegal in every way. He performed maintenance and charged me for his work under false pretenses. Meanwhile my family is without air conditioning for three days and continuing over this weekend. I asked for them to get me transferred to a contractor I know is certified and they said they wouldn't do it. Please check your contractor's licensing before you let them do work on your home.

Freezer still not working so had the tech came back out on August 4th and found no freon again. Found a blockage, drained freon, replaced a dryer and refilled with freon. Freezer still not working and now refrigerator is out. Called AHS, on hold for 45 minutes, they reassign to GKB Services. Appointment set for August 11th. Tech shows up on time, looks at system and says both compressors are defective and they will have to order. Call GKB to check on parts August 14th and told they are on hold with AHS for approval. 10 minutes later, receive an email from AHS that the service order has been assigned to a 3rd contractor. Call AHS to find out why, on hold for 35 minutes. Ask to talk to a supervisor and am transferred to voice mail.
Call back, on hold for 35 minutes again. Ask for a supervisor and am told one is at her desk, I will be transferred. Get voicemail. An hour later I am still waiting on a call back, and new provider can't come until August 18th. Have been a customer of American Home Shield for 20+ years, this is the worst customer service I have ever received, and I cannot seem to get an explanation. After looking at reviews on the first two providers, both are terrible, and not sure why AHS is using them other than they must be cheap.

I purchased my home in March of 2015, my wife and I first home by ourselves. Air was broken upon arrival so we put in a claim to AHS. It is now the dead heat of August in Pennsylvania and still have not had my air replaced fixed. Have had 3 separate companies out here and quality air conditioning has cancelled 4 times. I have had to take off of work 4 times and they cancelled due to weather or emergencies with other customers. Go to another home warranty company because if I could curse on here, this message would be a whole lot different. Stay away from both companies.

I initiated a claim when my oven stopped working. The repair contractor was fairly quick to respond, the next business day and was able to schedule within a couple of days. He was unable to fix it and had to try to order a part that was no longer available. AHS never called me to let me know they would be replacing my range. I called to check as to when the repair would be completed and was told by the contract company that 5 days prior they were advised my unit would be replaced. I was then told what unit I would be getting which was too big to fit and was the cheapest model available. They would not offer another so they said I could get $922.54 credit towards a new unit I would purchase.
I had no choice as I was told I was responsible for ensuring the unit would fit prior to acceptance. Thankfully I found a great sale and was able to replace it with a similar unit for $700 above what my credit was which is better than the full $2800 for a stainless steel slide in gas range. It's been over 3 weeks and I'm still waiting for a check which I called about today and was told it would be 10-14 more days. Again, I received no correspondence from AHS as to receiving my receipt or verifying all the information was correct.

I’ve liked several of the providers that American Home Shield sent out to the house. The main bad service that I've had was with the company that came out to look at our air conditioner unit. I didn't like their advice - they said I had mistreated or abused the A/C which is not true. I didn't care for their diagnosis so I ended up having somebody else come out, charged me a hundred dollars, and it's been working perfectly for three years. Other than that, everything else has been fine.

However, the new pool pump is a bit defective, so they have to come back. They came out yesterday to take a look at it and they're ordering new parts for it. AHS is a good investment, however, it would be nice if they make it more clear on what is covered, and they haven't done that to me. In the past, it seems whenever I called over items like the fridge or dishwasher, they would tell me it isn't covered.

What’s a good time and day to come out?” They then look into whatever I need to get done and we get it fixed. The last guy I had was for our garbage disposal, and amazingly, he had a replacement in his truck. It took him about 30 minutes and I think 15 minutes of that was ** because he had been here for another problem with our upstairs shower drain since it started leaking. They don't do between the floors and he told me what I needed to get and how to do it, and boom, I did it.

We had to have our dishwasher replaced, but American Home Shield didn't tell us that we could buy through them at a lesser amount. Instead, they just sent us a check for what the estimated repairs were going to be to the old one which wasn't worth repairing. Then, when our microwave went out, they told us about that. When they said "Well, this is what we'll replace it with," my husband asked, "Well, what if we wanted to do stainless steel?" They told us that we could go through them, purchase at their price, and pay the $92 difference between the white and the stainless steel.
The claims reps were very thorough. However there was one tech that they sent out that we were ready to escort out of the house, and we even filed a complaint. But the same guy was sent out again for another issue, and ever since then we have been on first name basis and he has been like a part of the family. Apparently, he was just having a bad day the first time. So overall we've been very happy with them. We have already used American Home Shield for another home we owned in Bakersfield, and my in-laws have used them for years too.

AHS has done real good but I had put in for the third time a claim to fix my ice maker and I never heard from the company. And a week passed, I had to redo the order. They're supposed to come out Tuesday for the third time to see if they can fix it but we're still waiting for them to show up. Another thing is I almost filed criminal charges on the air conditioning tech that AHS sent. He did damage to my box on my coils. He opened it up to the top of it, bent it back where air was going out into my attic. So my air conditioner was cooling but it wasn't cooling well enough. It was actually making my house hot and the contractor was trying to pressure me into purchasing a higher dollar unit. He didn't even check. So if I had gone along with their little scheme, I would have bought something I didn't really need and they had to come out again for my air conditioner within six or seven months and repair the right thing or replace my whole unit.
Once I told AHS about it, I didn't care about the option they gave me and I just paid it out of my pocket. AHS probably had a bad contractor. The contractor, the owner of the company did right by reimbursing me what I was out but the fact was that he had somebody come out here that was trying to scam people. Who knows how many people he has scammed? But up to that point about the air conditioner and the ice maker, AHS been good about getting reliable people out to fix the problem. And they've replaced a refrigerator and one other appliance so it’s paying for itself.

I contacted AHS on July 27, 2015 for a service appointment for my built in microwave and my electric stove oven. The first available appointment was August 6. On August 6th a service repairman from Sears came to assess the problem. He ordered parts that were to be delivered to my address. Today, August 13th I received a phone call from the repairman inquiring about the parts that I should have received. As it turned out, the parts were never delivered because a wrong address was entered for me so UPS was unable to make the delivery. I attempted to contact the repairman with no success. I spoke with Sears customer service who advised me that no work order was in the system and I should call AHS because my contract is with them. I called AHS, provided a detailed summary of what has occurred. She contacted Sears to see what the status was on completing the service request.
She provided Sears with the corrected address for the delivery. I was then given the tracking number and was told to follow up to see when the parts would be delivered then call and reschedule for the repairman to come back and install the part. My reply, "That's why I have paid for a service contract from AHS. Can't you do that?" And I was told "No, I can't. There is no way for me to check, and if I reschedule you will have to pay another service fee." The big problem is this. This stove serves a single mother with five small children that depend upon her stove to cook hot meals for her family. This has resulted in excessive expenses of eating out on a person who lives on a fixed income. From July 27- Aug 13, Is 3 weeks waiting for a simple repair. I purchased this service agreement a year ago and this is my first time using it. It is hard for me to consider renewing my contract. I am thoroughly disappointed!!!

American Home Shield has created a huge misconception of what customer service is. There is none! I repeat, there is no customer service. THREE days ago I placed a service call for an inoperable A/C unit in my home. I was informed that the service company would contact me and schedule an appointment. This did happen but they would not be able to come to my home because it was too late and could only make it the next day between 2-4PM. I INFORMED THE PROVIDER AT THIS POINT THAT IT WAS 110 DEGREES.
I was informed that that was my choice - "take it or leave it". I grudgingly accepted. Immediately thereafter I called AHS and asked to speak to someone to expedite matters. I was told that there was nothing that could do. When I asked for a supervisor I was told "we don't do that" and after insisting I was eventually (35 minutes) passed to a supervisor who informed me that "an emergency is when the temperature is over 104." I pointed out to her that the temp was 110 and she informed me that that did constitute an emergency and therefore they would expedite the call but they had 24 hours to do so. There was nothing to do but wait.
The following day a technician from JUST ONE CALL came by, charged me 75$ and told me that he could find nothing wrong. Later that evening when I got home the a/c unit was literally in pieces. The unit had vibrated itself to a horrible untimely death. The service company promised to call me back by 12 noon and even after call from AHS to confirm they never did. It is now 4:15 PM and I have been on hold with AHS for an hour and 19 minutes and still no resolution in sight. The agent got back on the phone finally and informed me that AHS has a policy to NOT LET YOU SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER UNLESS THEY SUBMIT A REQUEST. When I told her that I had never had that kind of response from any company I had ever dealt with I was told that "I had not dealt with AHS" and that was how they do things. I am done and I will now inform the 2 parties who I recently referred to AHS NOT TO USE THEM.

I purchased this policy (very expensive) to make sure I would be covered if any problems occurred. Unfortunately, they did. I filed three claims at one time. The phone line is a 20-30 wait and when you finally get a technician they tell you they don't know when a vendor will call, that they do not have a vendor in my area. I have never been called by a vendor or AHS about the electrical issue. Keep in mind that I work with all local vendors daily and have for 30 years.
I had a problem with my Viking range, asked that they make sure the vendor could work on Viking... Well they sent someone who was told I had an AMANA and AHS forgot to tell them the ice maker in the refrigerator wasn't working. The Vendor reported it while at my house and AHS asked him to collect Service Fee anyway. I still have not heard from AHS or a Viking Vendor. Lastly, my salt water pool that is beautifully maintained developed an issue and I had to cut the breaker off. Four days later, I wait through the phone line again, only to be told that they didn't know when the vendor would get there. I called the Vendor myself, he said he had never received a request and didn't really work on salt water pools. I have waited two days now for AHS to follow up or to hear from more Vendors. Nothing!!! My details are compacted. The long story is worse!!! I want my money back and I will not sell another policy for AHS.

They would always want a quick fix and they wanted us to spend hundreds of dollars for something that would break again at the end of the summer. So my husband and I decided to replace it out of our pocket and paid over $5000. But we decided to stay with AHS in case of any plumbing issues. Our kitchen sink does cause headaches at time.
But on Tuesday (8/11/15) our sewage ejector tank in the basement was leaking water into our basement and we called AHS. We first thought it was a sump pump and we were wrong. The plumber that came out was super nice and informed us we were wrong and it was actually a sewage ejector tank. He did say it needed to be replaced and he would contact AHS and we could schedule an appt to get it replaced. Once he was off the phone with AHS he said unfortunately AHS would not cover it and the cost to replace it would be $850. This is another item in our home which AHS would not replace. They told me that they could fix my washer, but it took a lot longer than I would have liked for it to take. They had been messing with it about two months, trying to get it fixed. The part for it would cost $275. So I chose for them to just pay me the difference and let me get a new washer. So I paid the difference for a new washer and then they were shipping the washer to me. They told me that was the only way I could have bought it at Lowe's but it would've been more expensive.
They shipped it to me from Dallas which is about two hours away since we live a hundred miles from Dallas. It took over a week the first time and they sent it to a residence in an 18-wheeler. So we had to hook onto a trailer to go to a location where we could meet them to get it. But I did not accept it because it was damaged -- the front of the washer caved in. So it took over a week before I got the new one which is working good. So it has ended up okay, but it took a long time.
The people they recommended to do the work the first time were from Sears. And Sears gave me a date that was 10 days in advance. I let them do that the first time because, at that time, it was my refrigerator that had a problem with the icemaker, which I could do without. But on the washer, they got a local person because when they would call me, they would give me dates that were a week and a half away. So for the rural areas, they need to use more local people so that the dates to get them repaired are closer.

April 2015 AHS sent Total Air Care out. Unit not cooling. Was 5 hours late and totally misdiagnosed the issue. Said evap coil was impacted and needed to be pressure washed wanted 360-ish to do that. I removed the filter to increase air flow. $150.00. April 2015 my local contractor came out. Said he would pressure wash the coil for $150.00. Upon inspection he said the coil did not need to be pressure washed but there was a leak in the system. I observed ice and holes on the coil. Added Freon. $150.00. More on this below 8/6/2015. 6/19/2015 unit not cooling again. AHS has 60 day warranty on work, so outside the scope of warranty. Orders a second opinion. If it's determined that it's a recurrence of the prior issue, no charge. If it's a new issue, $75.00. Jack from Alpha tech mechanical (**) comes out. Nice man, very knowledgeable. Adds Freon, $38.00 (no $75.00 service fee due to same problem).
I spoke with AHS about my displeasure about having to have Freon added twice in 60 days and was told a supervisor would call me within four hours. 6/25/2015 supervisor FINALLY calls me (5 days after I was promised). Janice **, direct line **. Said that if the problem occurred again to call her directly and she would order a leak test. 7/31/2015 unit not cooling again. Left voicemail for Janice. 8/5/2015 unit still not cooling. Left voicemail for Janice. 8/6/2015- called to schedule service and was transferred to Recall. I related the sequence of events and was informed that if I used an outside contractor (as I did in April) that could void my warranty. Total ** attitude. My guy diagnosed the problem correctly; AHS contractors STILL haven't. Was told that Alpha tech (from 6/19) has not filed the report as to what was wrong with the system.
I informed the customer service rep that an AC system is a sealed system and should not have to have Freon added twice in 4 months. There is obviously a leak, as reported by my local guy in April. Was informed that Alpha tech would have to come back out (the recall) and then get authorization to do a leak test. No charge for this visit. (Deb) 8/6/2015 email confirmation of request received. Original contractor (Total Air care) assigned. Should have been assigned to Alpha Tech another mistake by AHS. 34 minute phone call to get it reassigned to the correct contractor. Spoke to Carolyn. 8/11/2015 as of writing this, I still have not received a call from the contractor to schedule or call from the supervisor. Pathetic.

Our a/c condenser went out so we submitted a repair ticket. American Home Shield sent someone 2 days later to diagnose the problem. I live in Tucson, AZ and our temperatures have been 100-110 degrees and a/c is not a luxury but a necessity. We were told that the replacement condenser would have to be shipped to Tucson by AHS and that would take 7-10 business days (17 calendar days from the night I submitted my ticket).
Two business days and 4 calendar days of being in heat (that is frankly not safe) later, we received a call that our claim had been approved and that our repair will be completed in 7-10 business days from today. So 21 days after my a/c breaks in the middle of summer in the desert I may have my a/c fixed. How is this good customer service??? How can this company let customers live without a necessity for so long? In an emergency situation like this I feel like the repair company should authorize our local repair man to use a part that is sourced in town.

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!! I can not stress this enough. PLEASE READ! If you are considering get AHS, READ THIS FIRST!!! I have never had such an awful experience in my life!! We have a contract on our 1930 home. We had to call in for our first service call last week. Our thermostat wasn't working and we couldn't get it fixed. After waiting most the week for a call, we finally received a confirmation call for the next day. The lady was apparently at home making calls because I could hear what sounded like small dogs barking and a TV in the background. No biggie. More than likely a small company and I usually like the little guys!
Technician gets there, asks me what's going on. I explained the thermostat is not working. TAKE HEED NOW!!! This is where it really gets lovely... He turned on the fan and said, "Oh. That works. Let me check outside." Came back in one minute later, said my coolant was two units low and needed to be replaced. I also found out AHS only covers $10 per unit. He told me I needed a NEST thermostat. He said it was the best for old homes. Went back outside, filled coolant, came back to my door with a bill for $179. Said it should be working in a few minutes and left VERY abruptly. That was it. I have a simple unit. He didn't go in the basement and check that part. Didn't come in to see if the air actually became cool... NOTHING.
So I bought a $200 NEST, had my husband install it, only for it to not work. Called Nest, they were beyond helpful and pleasant! They had me send photos, asked numerous questions, and did everything to help. They informed me the wiring was shot and needed to be updated. I called AHS to inform them of all of this. Their solution... Have me pay another $75 for another service fee. They refuse to waive it and basically I'm stuck forking out the bill to get it corrected... My thermostat isn't going to be reimbursed because the tech didn't send the orders in as he was suppose to. So now I am out close to $400, need to update all wiring, and still am sitting in a 90 degree house.
I am canceling my contract tomorrow and will report AHS to the BBB. I will also inform my real estate agent who referred me to them to never refer another client. This is the worst customer service ever. I can't believe I fell for it and now I have to try and get this fixed. Thanks for nothing AHS. Oh! And AHS, why not try contracting out your jobs to people who aren't trying to screw others over.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Jamie. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you had with AHS. We'll schedule someone from our team you to form a solution.

I called on Monday, 8/3 to report a problem with my AC unit. It wasn't cooling properly. I live in San Antonio where the temperatures were right around the century mark. The American Home Shield (AHS) agent gave me the name and phone # for Quantum Mechanical in Boerne TX. After hanging up, I immediately called them to provide my name and number and asked them to contact me my house was already at 85 degrees. I then called them several times Tuesday morning and left several voice mail messages. I finally got through Tuesday afternoon and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday.
In the meantime, I called AHS to complain about the lack of a response from this vendor. I was on hold a total of 1 hr, 11 mins of which 38 minutes was to wait for a supervisor. At this point, I had requested a new vendor since the one I was appointed would never answer the phone and would not even return a simple phone call. Your supervisor explained the contract to me and the fact that it was not an emergency because the Weather Channel showed San Antonio temperatures at 96 degrees and it had to be 105 to qualify. I asked her what the temperature was inside my house and she could not answer.
On the next day Wednesday, Aug 5th, Quantum Mechanical repaired a portion of my AC problem and got the system cooling somewhat again, and leaving open a work order to recharge the unit with freon. The tech said he would be back on either Thursday or Friday to complete the repairs because he came out with an empty can of freon (oh, and I gave him a wire nut because he came without those as well). During the next couple of days, Quantum made no attempts to contact me about that follow-up visit. I called Quantum many times on Thurs and Fri only to get the answering machine on which I left several messages. Not once did anyone call me back.
During this time, I called AHS three times for help. Each time AHS was able to contact Quantum on their first attempt (they didn't answer my call but answered AHS call, how weird). On Saturday, Aug 8th, I again called AHS. And again the AHS agent was able to speak to Quantum who stated to AHS that they would contact me within 30 minutes to schedule that follow-up appointment. That phone call was never happened (they know how to play your game).
I finally talked to the owner at Quantum on Monday, 8/10 at approx 7:50 am. He said he would schedule me for Tuesday, 8/11 between 11 and 3 p.m. I asked him to call me 30 mins before arrival so that I could meet him at my house and let him in. I waited until 3:30 and tried to contact them without any luck. Then I called AHS for the 5th time on this matter. I told the agent of my issue and history of my case, and asked that she contact Quantum. Once again, she was able to get right through to the owner who told her that he had told me 2 - 6 pm. (He told me 11-3 pm.)
I asked the agent if someone could follow up with Quantum at 6 pm this evening since I had this history with Quantum and she said NO. Then I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she said there weren't any supervisors available and that she couldn't guarantee that someone would even call me later today. I guess your staff is extremely busy and don't have time to simply follow up with someone that you have hired to represent your company, especially after all of this.
As a result of having to contact you 5 times and spending over 2 hours on hold for one problem, I will be canceling my contract after 20+ years at the end of the current term. Your customer service agents and supervisors have no compassion for the concerns of your customers as is evident in this complaint. I have told 4 of your employees that Quantum does not represent AHS in a positive manner and that went in one ear and out the other. I researched many online reviews on Quantum Mechanical, many of which had the same problem as I. Hard to reach, would not return phone calls, did not show up when they promised, etc. etc. etc.

I received a bill of $75 on 6-14- from AHS requesting my service fee. I called to correct this. AHS called to verify with the company they sent that I paid. The customer service rep mentioned she would put in a correction form and not to worry. 7-14-15 I received a final notice requesting my $75 service fee I call again and they told me the same thing but that the previous rep had wrong dispatch number and that she would correct.
I call again on 8-2-15 to verify. "This is taken care of." "NO it was still delinquent." I escalated to a supervisor who claimed he took care of this. I call again as well as check my account online 8-6-15. Nothing was done. So I took upon myself to find the number to their regional offices and got through without any hold time. She took my information and even gave me her extension. Told me she would get with accounting department. She even told me to call her Monday to verify it had been taken care of. 4 days later. I called AHS because I was having problems with my hot water heater. It would turn off automatically so I would never know if I had hot water. The plumbing co came and resolved the problem temporarily. Few weeks later again the same issue. The plumber was sent back again. Four more times to resolve the issue but each time they wanted a service fee for the same persisting problem. Not only that, they claim there's one service fee if you have an issue related to plumbing at same time the serviceman is at your home. Although there was a service request put in for another plumbing issue with my shower which was never taken care of while they were here they want to charge me again for a service that should have been taken care of at the time they were here but never completed. I'm outraged! I pay them a premium of over $100 a month plus $75 service fee. If I paid the plumber directly it would be more reasonable.
Each time I call AHS I'm on hold for at least half an hour to speak to someone. The reason I'd rather speak to someone is so I can explain the circumstances of why I shouldn't be charged a service fee each time for a problem that was never resolved. Today, I was on the phone for one hour and 20 minutes only to hear from the supervisor because I was away on vacation and sixty days has passed my service is not referred to as a recall and so I have to once again pay a service fee. This company has been a joke. I've had the worst experience with them.
A few months ago I had a problem with my sub-zero fridge. AHS claims if they can't fix it they will replace it. They first deducted all the costs they incurred for trying to fix it which took more than 6 months of back and forth. Imagine six months without a working fridge. Then they said they have a limit as to the cost of the replacement. I finally had to give up and purchase one without them. Very, very disappointed in their services. I purchased insurance for peace of mind but American Home Shield had only caused me nothing more than stress, money and aggravation.

AHS sent out an air conditioner guy and he cleaned up our unit really good. He was wonderful, nice, professional and did a good job. The year before, AHS sent out somebody else and they just loaded the A/C with freon and left. Our A/C is currently working great. As a matter of fact, we can’t turn it any lower than 72 degrees because it’s so cold. Before we got it fixed, we had to put it down 65 degrees to make the house cool.
When something goes wrong and we call AHS, they send somebody out. The turnaround time is awesome and the people call immediately. All of the contractors that AHS sent out for the different claims we had either fixed the problem permanently or tried to do something else. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with everybody that came out here but this last air conditioning company that they sent out was awesome. But I know that AHS don’t really have any control over with what the contractors do once they get here, so it's been really great overall.

I had to wait almost two weeks until I got the new compressor which was bad when he tried to install it. I had to wait two more days before they got the new compressor and I had called the air conditioning guy back because it rattles like a lawnmower. He told me to keep an eye on it. We went to Europe since then but since we've been back, the air conditioning has got all the rattling noise when it kicks on. It then runs okay again and when it stops, it sounds funny too. The insurance company didn't do me no favor when they got that company to install my new compressor and it's still not to my liking.
He told me that kind of compressor they put in that was ordered from the insurance company was the one they have problems on. I had a Python and they'd supposedly put a Python in again. But no and I'm not very happy with that at all. The way it looks and the way it sounds, I'm sure it's going to break down again within the next five or six months and I’m stuck with the heat. My most recent claim with AHS was for a water softener repair. The water softener was completely not operational, the control was not working and the water could not be set off. I had to cut the pipes off and install caps myself. Submitting the claim was simple. I called AHS and they got hold of somebody. I live in the Rio Grande Valley and I understand that they don't have a large choice in vendors. It'd be nice if they had another one on water softeners but it is what it is.
It was a simplistic repair, AHS probably paid three times what it was worth. I felt bad about it, but that's their business and I'm not supposed to manage that for them. Since then, the water softener has been running. I hope keeps that way, but I don't even know how to reset the timer on it. I don't know how to do anything because my information experience is with a mechanical control and I just think this one is a different animal. I also have no operating instructions for the system at all.
Prior to that claim, I also lost a water heater in December of last year. AHS sent a company and after the usual standard complaining back and forth, they sent the people out with a new water heater to replace the one I put in when I built the house, a computer-controlled one with a 10-year warranty on it. What AHS sent out was a $150 piece of junk that wouldn't last two years and they refused to do anything about it. They said they would pay me $256 and I could do whatever I wanted.
I spent $700 replacing the water heater but I never sent the bill back to them, and I never got my $256 from them as well. To my understanding, the contract calls for them to replace the heater in-kind. My other experiences with them had been very good. They've made quite a few repairs and replacements, and for the most part, we've been satisfied. But I was very disappointed with this water heater claim and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. If I get another one like that, I'll be looking for another home warranty company.

Have been having problem with the a/c for the last 6 months. Repeated service calls and no one fixes it. Finally one a/c expert tells me the unit is shut, needs to be replaced. It has been 100 degrees here and we have an elderly person in the home. They tell me they need one more opinion and they will replace. They send the guy who was there three times, and he states it is not the a/c. Some ridiculous beam is rotten and the a/c is tilted. Meanwhile it has ruined a piece of my ceiling. I know this is not true since I had two professional home inspections done in the last two years, one as recently as June 2015, and I called that inspector. He unequivocally says, this is not the case. I have been on the phone at least 5x, waiting for hours, and can't get thru to talk to anyone, meanwhile, no a/c and this person is suffering. Currently on the phone for over 60 mins, and still no answer.
UPDATED ON 08/10/2015: After repeated calls to fix the a/c. We finally got to the root of the problem with a contractor we called ourselves. But all this time, when the a/c shut off, it was due to the drain valve not working. Because it was backing up, it rotted the platform it was sitting on and leaked onto the ceiling of my 300-year-old house. By the time the problem was identified, the a/c had to be removed to build a new platform. Of course, AHS claims no responsibility. But, how could I see the problem when it is in the attic accessible through a crawl space! Their final vendor said the a/c was shot. Now, I had to make the choice. Put it back on the new platform and repair it by AHS or put in a new A/C, because my vendor was adamant it was done.
Now comes for one of their tricks. They acknowledge the repair that would be needed, but will not take the estimate provided by my vendor who is a certified good vendor. So, they will only allow $425 for the work they claim could have had the unit up and running. FYI, this all happened during the most steamy hot weather in Charleston. The temperature in the house was 100+ for days. So, they would send someone out, he would empty the water that was unable to drain and reset the a/c. Once it started going as soon as the drain filled, it would cut off.

I have been with AHS for over three years and have made 4 total calls so far. Only one of these calls had a satisfactory outcome - related to the fan going out on the inside unit of the HVAC system. The last call has been particularly trying and frustrating for me. My AC started to go out in mid-Jul with intermittent cooling and towards the end it totally died on me. I placed a request on Friday (Jul 25, 2015) and didn't expect to hear from them until next Monday based on their policy of "someone will contact you within 24-48 business hours." So we suffered through the weekend and were hopeful when the contractor actually came by the house before end of Monday. Turns out the outside unit fan motor had gone bad. They tried to swap with an after-market motor which ran for a short time and died. I was told they would need to get an OEM fan motor for the outside unit.
Today it's over three weeks but I cannot get a straight answer from either the contractors (American Air Conditioning) or the AHS about when the part is going to be available. The AHS is ready to defend the contractors with excuses for their incompetencies, and not ready to take remedial measures while our family with small kids are suffering during the peak of Texan summer. I am beyond angry and frustrated. I am paying premium to AHS to stand up for me and ensure proper service from contractors but instead they act like bystanders. I cannot take up the matter with the contractors because AHS is the intermediary. Is this kind of service to expect from AHS or any home warranty company??? Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Lawrence. We apologize for your recent experience and would like to assist you. Someone from our team will be following up shortly to assist you with a resolution.

I filed an online request for service on Saturday, August 8, to repair my broken A/C. It's my understanding that I will receive an email response from a service provider within 24 hours. It is 11:31 am on Monday, August 10, and I have not received email notification regarding my request. I called the American Home Shield office at 8:00am this morning, was on hold for 20 minutes, then disconnected. I have not been able to reach them by phone. I also contacted them through their website, requesting a phone call, and I have not had any contact from them.
When I check my account status for repair online it says "unavailable." To say I am extremely disappointed would be a gross understatement. I have dealt with several home warranty companies in the past that were awful, but they at least responded to my request for help. I contacted an A/C repair service near my home, and my A/C is now repaired. I will now look forward to trying to get reimbursement for the repair fee less the $75 service fee charge. Wish me luck.

My air conditioner was making a noise so we filed a claim with AHS. It was terrible. The contractor just told me that they don't take care of noises, and that was it. I called AHS and left them a message but I never heard back from them. So I called the contractor again and let them know that the AC was still making the noise, and that I needed to remember that my coverage doesn't cover noises. The contractor went and rattled a few things. The AC made a noise for a few more days and then it stopped. So I haven't done anything else about it. My past experiences with AHS have been better and I'd still recommend them. However, I've had a couple of their contractors tell me that I shouldn't have AHS and go instead with Old Republic since they cover more.

My 85 year old mother has been without AC for 4 days in 105 degree weather. Service dept. did not request expedited/emergency service. Said they had 4-24 hrs. to contact us regarding this. By the way - weekends are not included in the 24 hours. Would not waive the fee for a REAL 24/7 service to come out. Talked to service 6 separate times. Emergency service is for NON-CONTRACT only customers on weekends. What are we paying for? Had to request a Manager who also has another 4-24 hrs. to return call (no weekends). I am furious. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Did you notice how hard it is to get to the reviews?

I've had AHS for about 15 years and my brother has them too since I suggested he get it. However, he said the earliest he could get an answer was 20 minutes on the telephone which is terrible customer service. They advertise it on television and they're getting a lot more business and they don't have the personnel to handle it. I would give them a perfect rating but with the stipulation that they're going to do something to handle extra business. Moreover, the deductible is going up to $75 and it was $45 when I started with them. That is a little high and I used to pay somewhere around $500 for my premium, but it's now almost $700 a year which is also high.
In fact, my brother just switched to another warranty company because of the pricing with American Home Shield. I've read some terrible write-ups about the other company and I've never had a problem like that with American Home Shield. Service-wise, other than one instance I had years ago, the last dude that I had was great.

Everything was easy with American Home Shield. I had a very good experience with them and there was no problem whatsoever.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. The contractors are excellent - very professional, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. They diagnosed the issue and if they don’t have the part, they tell me that they have to order it and stay in touch with me if it’s gonna be a couple of days late. I currently have three properties insured with AHS, and I have recommended them to a lot of people.

Despite having honest and straightforward contractors, I'm not satisfied at all with the service I've been getting from American Home Shield. Submitting a claim online is relatively easy, but by telephone, it takes too much time. And I'm definitely not satisfied with the increased pay for the last year. My current contract is due to expire in December and I have every intention to switch to another home service warranty company which charges $60 to $75. I've been with American Home Shield for years as has my mother and my son, but I'm just totally dissatisfied at this point.

I find American Home Shield’s website a little challenging when submitting a claim, but the process isn’t too bad on the phone, just a long wait. I think they’re trying to force everybody to the website. The contractors they send have all been very pleasant, but it takes anywhere from 2 days to a week to get somebody to call. It may be due to the season and the amount of work being done, but I assume they’re low bidders, so they simply don’t have the staff to come right away. Overall, AHS gives good service over the years. It’s just that at times, their contractors are swamped and slow to respond.

There is not really a resolution to the issue, but the company replied and I responded. It is the best warranty company out there as far as coverage. Not everything will be covered, so don't expect that, but it covers stuff and helps you not to worry when times are tough. Its way better than another company I tried, but like I said, you get what you pay for. This is an insurance plan and I have to tell you, some of the things in my house, have been completely replaced because of AHS.
However, these companies started to restrict what they covered or the parts they covered. One company, for example, only covered ONE part on a Hot Water Heater. Everything else was not covered, but they list it in their brochure. You have to read the fine print on these things and understand not everything will be covered or fixed immediately. You may have to wait for a part. But with AHS, they covered more than most..so check your books when you get them and know what you are paying for.

I placed a complaint with AHS and cancelled my contract after 11 years, actually. I loved that company, having a single parent limited income, they helped me sooo much when my kids were growing up. It just so happened that around 2010 or so, they changed. I do not know why but less things got fixed. There were less repairmen available and sometimes they were poor or didn't fix anything as it wasn't a covered repair. I was so disappointed in them... BUT TO BE FAIR they did try to contact me about this and I never got the message or saw the note on here. So I cannot say they didn't try to speak with me and they were at their worst a much better company than another company I tried for a short time and let go after a LITTLE OVER A YEAR. Choice... horrible. Stick with American Home Shield and try to work it out. You get what you pay for.

We have been member for several years. Have always gotten things fixed somewhat easily - always minor repairs. Our master bath jacuzzi tub motor stopped working and I called for repair. AHS sent their contractor, Arsenal Plumbing. Arsenal came and removed the motor, saying it had blown and that they would be back the following week with a repaired motor.
In the meantime I slipped three discs in my low back and had to get an epidural - making it hard to stand in the shower. Was not able to use bath tub because the motor had been removed and we were told not to turn on water. I called Arsenal 2 times per week for 3 weeks straight. They kept saying they would call me back. NEVER called back.
Tried AHS several times and after being on hold for 40+ minutes each time, after I finally got a person, s/he would say that Arsenal hasn't updated the status of the repair and that someone would call me back from AHS within 24 hours. NEVER got a call back from AHS. My husband called AHS, got a hold of a person after being on hold for over 40 minutes and was told the repair was approved and that Arsenal would be in touch to complete the project. Never heard from Arsenal. Called 3 times and asked for a manager to call me.
Finally got a hold of Arsenal - they told me AHS only approved the motor repair but not the "motherboard" repair (the two apparently go hand-in-hand) and that I needed to pay $1,100 to complete the repair. This is completely unacceptable and we have been without our bathtub for a month. Not one person from AHS ever followed through with the promise to get back to us and not one person from AHS informed us of this $1,100 co-pay. We are NOT renewing our contract with AHS and I highly suggest you look elsewhere.

We were having problems with our shower drain. It would back-up and then it would release. So, we called American Home Shield, and they've been great. They hook me up with somebody who came out and helped me figure out what is going on, or fixed what the problem is. They're very dependable, and I know that I can count on them to come and get things taken care of. I would recommend them.
