Overall, my experience with AHS has been wonderful. Everything was great with them. In addition, my son just bought a new home and I think he has AHS now. He was going to get AHS himself if it wasn't already purchased by the seller.

I've always had a fine experience with AHS. Recently, I had my air conditioning fixed. They were supposed to come one day and it was very hot and the AC was out but they overbooked and there was a weather issue. They had to reschedule the last hours and I wasn't too pleased with that but it wasn't AHS' fault. After the repair, the AC has been fine and I have no complaints about that.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for almost seven years and initially submitting a claim was tough but now it's a lot better. With the website access, we haven't had any problems scheduling any appointments. I have had mixed reactions with the technicians. It all depends on the trade. A lot of times I can have a plumber who knows what he's doing. After the repair it's pretty much a done deal. I've had some problems with the AC. They've recently asked for recalls but unfortunately there's only so many qualified contractors on the list.

The biggest thing comment is for AHS to try to get some approved contractors into the actual program, some of the bigger names, bigger chains, because a lot of the contractors are obviously small businesses who haven't really been in the field that long. What happens with that is, for example, I had an issue with my HVAC system and they came out with the air conditioning and then they had to come out subsequently three more times, and then that ended up costing me three or four trade calls, and that was the same contractor. So obviously if they would have caught the issue before, I wouldn't had to pay several trade calls, and this is all within a week.

That's the kind of experience I've had this year. It was for us a little frustrating. My wife was frustrated we didn't have an AC at one point. If they have the right people coming out, they won't have that many recalls. I've told people I've have good, bad, some ugly experiences, but overall I do recommend the company to several people, all my peers, friends and family. Everyone's in the same situation once their house stuff starts breaking down.

A friend of my friend recommended AHS to me. It's really easy to submit a claim and just one click to ask for an appointment. It will be nice if we get an appointment sooner from them. There was leak on weekend and they came on Thursday, so I had to keep the tap closed for that long time. Unfortunately I had submitted claims four times within this year, but it was really good. The technician I had yesterday was a good person and handled everything. The only problem was I have two sinks in the bathroom and now both taps are different. The technician said they will not cover the same kind but when I insured, it says that insurance is whatever type I have.

You can never get a hold of anyone over the phone unless you wait on the phone for at least 40 minutes before you can speak to someone. I even filled out the website response stating they will have someone call me but I never got a phone call. This company charged me twice (deductible) for the same appliance and they never repair them. I wanted to cancel my service because I was not a satisfied customer and they couldn't even confirm the cancellation. They said that somebody else has to call me regarding cancellation. If I ever receive this phone call.

Our property managers shared to us that the issue was handled by American Home Shield in a timely manner. We didn't have any complaints from our tenants. Everything went smoothly. But my only complaint is that for both of our air conditioning repair and water heater replacement, AHS did not give us information about who the contractor was and those who did the repairs did not leave information about the product that was put into our home. We are now back in our home, so it's no longer rented. We appreciate everything that AHS has done for us in the past year that we've had them as a home warranty service and I would recommend them.

I've used American Home Shield services three times now. They've been absolutely amazing every time I've needed them. I, however, found out that not a lot of people are associated with them so I had limited people that are able come out when my air conditioner and plumbing backed out. It took 10 days before the air conditioner could get fixed and to wait 10 days is not fun. It was 115 that week in California so we had to buy a $300 room air conditioner. I have three small children and our oldest has a medical condition so there was nothing I could do. But we made it though and I have a room air conditioner now, and we haven't had any problem with the air conditioner since then.

I've also had them fix my garage door. The spring busted and I couldn't open and close it, and within 20 minutes it was fixed. They're fantastic. I'm glad that I have them. I would always recommend them to everyone else I know that purchased a home, since we purchased ours because you may not use it that first year but you could use it the next. You'll never know.

We had a claim filed in February and it went great. After we submitted the claim online, we were contacted by the repairman within a few hours and they were out here the next day. They found the leak and replaced the garbage disposal. We tried to renew our policy which was up on September 2nd. Twice, my husband did it online and we used the credit card. It said that it was successful but we never saw the charge on our credit card. We had several calls from someone saying they're from American Home Shield and wanting our credit card number but since we did not initiate the call and we thought that we had already renewed, we did not give them that information. Then we got on to American Home Shield website which is new and improved, and we couldn't even log on. We finally found an 800 number and called. We spoke with someone and got the policy renewed but she said that they have had many complaints about their new and improved website and to let someone know. The claims process of AHS seems to work fine and I like the contractors they sent out majority of the time. Their quality of work is pretty good. However I'm trying to renew my warranty and set it up like I paid it last year which is 12 monthly installments. They sent me a bill, I paid it. The people I talked to kept telling me I can't do it that way anymore. They wanted a check so they could deduct it from my checking account. Well, I don't want anybody in to my checking account except me but she insisted "that's the only way we can do it." I wasn't happy that she would not work with me and try to help me re-enroll in their service. That's not very encouraging. So I told her to let me talk to their supervisor and she couldn't connect me to her supervisor but her supervisor gave her a number.

She gave me the number to call billing and payments, and I tried this 1-800 number and it took me nowhere. I wasn't happy that I got a number that didn't work. So then I called back and got another gal on the phone, explained the same thing to her and she was very helpful. She said, "Well, all we need to do is get a debit or a credit card for the first monthly payment so you're renewed, and then we'll start and set it up like we did last year," and we were done. So there was a way to do it.

They sent someone out and the guy fixed it but after 2 weeks, the noise is back. I called AHS again and they sent another guy. He was the one who also fixed my washer the first time. They sent him back and he fixed the dryer - we haven't had any problems with it so far.

My garage door started malfunctioning after I had AHS for 5 months. I paid my $100 service fee to have a contractor come out. The contractor indicated that my springs were too small and this caused/contributed to my garage door opener malfunctioning after several years of service. Neither AHS nor the contractor they hired sent me an estimate. I was only advised that it would cost over $600 to replace the springs and fix the motor. AHS denied my claim and indicated that the garage door opener was "secondary" damages (much like water damage from a leaky fridge) however the garage door opener is the "covered item". AHS has never sent me a denial letter.

When another AHS rep followed up a week later, they agreed that my claim was improperly denied however they were going to deny my claim for a different reason. Again, I requested a denial letter and inquired about their arbitration clause which costs more than my claim to file. Everyone at AHS claims they have no idea how arbitration works or if they pay part or all of the filing fee. Long story short, it takes over 30 minutes to reach anyone at AHS, they don't understand their contract and they refuse to send anything in writing and I'm left paying a $100 service fee for no "service" and not even an estimate.

Today, Aug 29th, 2015, is our 16th day without central air conditioning in our home. Two weeks ago yesterday, I placed a service request by phone. Easy enough. I was told an a/c contractor, Advantage Air in Panama City FL, would call. The owner called, said he could not come until Monday unless we paid out of pocket $200.00. Monday, technician came but a thunderstorm was passing and he left saying he couldn't work in the rain. Rescheduled for next day. Next day, Tuesday, said part had to be ordered. Followed up several times with AHS customer service. Each time they were very courteous, but I still have no a/c.

Finally after 6 days of rude encounters with their contractor, he said part came in and would be out Tuesday. Tuesday, after 6 hours technician left... I won't go into detail here but I was forced to pay him $210.00 or he would remove part he put in... Six hours later a/c stopped working. Requested AHS to send another contractor due to my troubles with first one. They sent another who reported damage done by first. AHS refused to authorize their recommendation and said #1 cont has to come back. #2 contractor called AHS to "go to bat for us". That was yesterday. Haven't heard anything since.

By the way, customer service said they flagged us as priority because my husband has severe lung disease which makes breathing difficult in heat/humidity. We had to spend $450.00 for portable A/C to cool parts of house to somewhat bearable temp. AHS customer rep did say they will reimburse $125.00 toward that purchase. Will see how long that takes when I send reimbursement request. 16 days and counting.

The American Home Shield rep came into our real estate office and I purchased home warranty service from them because of what she shared. My most recent claim with them was for my air conditioning system. I came home one day and it seemed a little warm in the house. I went to the pool in the community where I live, and when I came home, it was even warmer and humid in the house, even if the AC system was running. So I called AHS and they made arrangements for a tech to come out. My experience with the AHS rep was good. My only disappointment with them was when the first appointment that they were able to get me was a week later. I was under the impression that if I was without AC and live in Orlando, Florida, and if I call the local service company to come and do a repair, AHS would get me an appointment quickly.

Nevertheless, the contractor that was sent by AHS was fantastic. He checked everything and knew exactly what was wrong. Apparently, from what I understand with some of these warranty services, they don't like to make repairs or fix things, and the contractor knew how to word his report to AHS to ensure that the part that didn't work would get replaced. My AC works perfect since the repair, so I am very happy with AHS. To this point, I am satisfied.

There's one plumber that is just very crooked. They sent him out twice and he didn't do anything. It turned out I paid him cash and he said I didn't pay him. And when I went and showed that I drafted out the money, his boss waved at me and said I paid it. But everyone else has been very good, very professional. They should screen a little bit better.

We have received a number of things from them as a result of problems that took place - most recently, they replaced our dishwasher. While it's not at the same level as the one we had, it is still a fine dishwasher that's doing the job. When we moved into our house years ago, AHS was the warranty on it and I've kept it ever since. But submitting claims to them can become very confusing sometimes. It's because everything they do will depend on what the technician reports back to them after he comes and checks things out. I had a crappy situation with one of the technicians that they sent out to check my dishwasher. He said, "Oh, the reason it isn't working is because you plugged it all up with food and soap." I said, "Excuse me, we've never put an ounce of food in the dishwasher in the 19 years we've lived here." But he said that was his diagnosis and AHS took that. They said, "You could get another opinion, but if they say the same thing, then you'll pay for another service call."

So because the dishwasher wasn't working, I bought a brand new one. When the technician pulled out the old one, he said, "Well, I hate to tell you this but this one would still be working perfectly." It turned out that a mouse chewed through one of the three wires. All that had to be done was to replace the wire. I don’t even want to get into my experience with my air conditioning which turned into a complete nightmare. It took us a month to get that straightened out from the time that they originally said that my air conditioner was gone and it had to be replaced. I have to blame part of it on the engineering firm that was doing it. But the biggest problem is where AHS is located. There's a three-hour difference from California and they don't have anybody here that we can contact.

After a service request for an air conditioning leak got "lost" and the tenant never got a call, I called the contractor myself. After two calls to them, and the contractor claiming the call was never made to them from AHS I was able to finally schedule an appt. No follow up by AHS nor the contractor after the visit. The tenant had to text me advising me that the contractor had come and not fixed the problem. 24 hours later... NO call from AHS nor the contractor to me. When repeatedly calling them and being put on hold FOREVER, I got two versions from AHS and the contractor about additional work needed. The contractor AHS used basically left the tenant "stranded" with no air conditioning telling them not to turn the unit back on yet offered no solution to ME, the homeowner.

A whole week later, I finally got fed up after getting differing stories about the work needed after having to repeatedly call both AHS and Greenway Services (the contractor) and called another private contractor. Overlooking the bogus information AHS and the contractor AHS sent gave me, the private contractor simply unstopped the condensation line and the leak STOPPED. We got the carpet cleaned from the leak, and the tenant says it has not leaked since and it's been 7 days since our contractor fixed! AHS entrusts incompetent contractors, does not seemingly have a system to follow up on customer satisfaction, and based upon misdiagnosis from the contractor, the paying customer is left helpless to their own devices to fix the problem. This is not customer service and is USELESS if this is used to satisfy rent paying tenants.

Updated 10/12/2015 - I have documented calls made to American Home Shield regarding a "leaking air conditioning unit." After the contractor FINALLY came out to the rental property, two days later I got a text from the tenant that nothing had been done. Over the next 7 days, I made countless calls to AHS, was promised 'callbacks' and got nothing. Finally, on the 7th day I talked to the contractor and AHS. I heard lame excuses about "bad sheet metal on the evaporator coil" and "missing parts." Long story short; it was a misdiagnosis.

Through all the calls (on hold with them for what seemed like FOREVER every time I called) I ultimately felt like I had no voice, no help... only rhetoric with two different companies (AHS and the contractor) telling me different things. Long story short - the contractor told the tenant to simply, not use their air conditioner. It was the end of August. NOT an option. I got fed up and called another licensed HVAC company out. They came and unstopped the condensation line. That is all that was wrong just as I suspected in the first place.

Summation: AHS and Greenway services (the contractor) gave me (what I feel to be) a runaround. It has been a month and a half after my paying out of my pocket for ANOTHER licensed contractor to simply blow out the condensation line. We paid to get the carpet cleaned as a result of the leak. A month and a half later, there is no leak still! FIXED! Greenway did not collect the payment for services at the time they came out because they knew they hadn't fixed anything.

Yet... lo and behold I get a $100 invoice in the mail from American Home Shield. For WHAT?! A/C is leaking. They send out a contractor. The contractor and AHS give conflicting stories regarding why they can't fix it. I hire somebody else at my expense. They fix the problem in MINUTES on the SAME DAY. I get a bill from AHS AND my account is marked with a past due maintenance fee. Really? My account needs to be (at the least) credited immediately! Why would I pay a service fee when I had to pay someone else to fix the problem that was misdiagnosed?!!!

We have three properties with American Home Shield and my experience has been positive overall. It's a wonderful insurance policy. If you don't know who to contact, especially being new in one property, you can get your laundry list of good quality craftsmen through them. For the most part, my interactions with the technicians have been fantastic. What's challenging is to get all parties to agree that it is indeed a failed product. But once it's agreed upon that a certain product has failed, then it's easy.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my air conditioning system. I did it online and it was so easy. I missed out on the first appointment because there was a little confusion. Either they didn't get the message or they had the wrong number for my account because they had my old number, which was actually my home number that isn't working. I had them use my number but they never did. But the contractor was really good. They came out and did the repair. Overall, I'm very pleased I have American Home Shield.

It’s easier now to submit a claim with AHS when I do it online than it was before. Most of the time, we’ve been very pleased with the technicians they send. The only thing we wondered about is that they had to replace the air conditioner and the person that came out had done some things wrong so they sent somebody else and had to correct what the other person did. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t have sent the same company. It's just that the person who hadn’t done it properly would have been the one to do it again. But other than that, they got the job done.

My experience with American Home Shield has been, in one word: terrible. I would have found them better if they fired that service company they sent to repair my refrigerator because I understood that it was going to take a little while for the company to call me and schedule an appointment. However, my fridge died in the late afternoon of the 16th and the tech drove out here just 10 minutes today and told me my refrigerator should be cold in about 2 hours. But it's not acceptable in this part of the country (and me being a senior citizen) to get up in the morning everyday and run down the convenience store to buy a box of ice for my ice chest.

When I called AHS for the claim, I was told to wait 24 hours for the service company to call. I finally got a call to schedule the repair past noon and told them that I wanted the repair scheduled as soon as possible as I don't have a refrigerator in the meantime. They scheduled it for Thursday, 9 o'clock - a good 4 days from the scheduling call. It was late in the afternoon when the tech finally showed up and told us it would take a couple of days to get a new compressor for the refrigerator. Considering the urgency of getting somebody a refrigerator in their house, I thought somebody could have overnighted that compressor.

They finally called me yesterday to schedule a time they could come. Then they called back because they can't get here on the time frame they originally gave me. I understand that they needed a 2-hour window since some jobs take longer than anticipated. However, they called once more to reschedule again so I had to reschedule some things for my day since I didn't want to put out toward the weekend to have this job done. The tech finally arrived here at five minutes to twelve today and it was well after noon before he got his tools and parts in order and got started.

I haven't been happy with that experience but I've had excellent service from AHS in the past. Once we needed a new condenser fan for the AC. Another time, with a recent AC problem, the guy was here the next day. The issue turned out to be minor and he was able to take care of it but it took him a long time to figure out the issue. I also needed a new hot water heater several years ago. I understood that the tech got to diagnose the problem and that he doesn't have a bunch of water heaters lying around in their truck so it took a couple of days to get back out here with a hot water heater. Fortunately it was rather temperate, so I didn't have to take a cold shower in January which would have made me upset.

I appreciate getting the new range so much and I never thought I'd be able to, so the company and everybody has been great. I was thrilled because I almost did not get home warranty when we bought the house in April, and because we had some extra points or credits, our realtor took it upon herself to pick it up for a year for us with what we had left over. Otherwise, I'd never gotten a new stove, which works great. I would recommend AHS to anyone.

I just call them, pay $75, and I'm good. I got a claim in right now with them for my air conditioning.

Prior to this, my claim with them on my plumbing was a good experience -- it got fixed. I went online and selected "plumbing." They had a breakdown in terms of having various selections to choose from before. Now they would only have "plumbing" and other general categories, so it was difficult to select and be specific. Nonetheless, my claim went through. AHS knew what I needed and submitted it to the plumber. The contractors sent by AHS were cool, came on time, did what they had to do, and fixed the problem. Since the repairs, the performance of my plumbing has been excellent. Their repairs helped and solved the problem that we were having.

He was very professional, courteous, and willing to help. It was a quick service call and once the refrigerator was cleaned and something was adjusted, there was no additional noise. I was just concerned it was more of a major problem than what it was.

AHS has also helped me in the past. I had a major repair a year or two ago with my A/C unit and the claim was found to be outside of their policy maximum. I bought into a policy from AHS, more than 10 yrs now. It is responsible for making home repairs in certain appliances, or plumbing, for a regulated fee, depending on the policy you buy. Anyway, when I bought this policy 10+ yrs ago, I added my Well System in it specifically because we are totally dependent on it for water, and it can get expensive. Well, today our water went out and finding water rushing from under the well house cover. I can't remove the metal blue cover in it to see what is happening, however, it leaves our household without water, and had to shut it down for now to stop the flow of water.

When calling about getting a repairman to come fix the well, am being told they don't cover plumbing outside of the residential foundation. I don't know of anyone whose well, is within their residential foundation. Like I told her I don't know that it isn't a pipe inside the well that has busted, but I specifically added my well coverage for any and all reasons that my well is not working properly. It is our water source, and it is not pumping to the house. I'm not sure if she understood what I'm telling her. She is focused in telling me, they don't cover plumbing outside of the house. But I would think that anything under the cover of my metal blue well is a part of it and therefore would be covered. That's like saying we do repairs but we don't supply the tools to fix it.

I'm not talking about the pipes running to the house, or even the ones standing beside the well. I'm talking rushing water from under the well cover that I can't see where it is coming from, causing the well not to perform. I didn't like this kind of shabby coverage. Too shady for me. I've had issues in the past with the company and I've read a lot of questionable negative things lately. I think it's time to change services. I will update in how this turns out tomorrow, but I don't like this uneasy feeling they have placed in me right now. I shouldn't have to worry if it's covered, when I've been paying for coverage for about 15 yrs now.

We submit our claims online and it was easy. The only complaint we’ve ever had was when we’ve had to have work on our furnace. The contractor that they sent out is not competent. Usually they send him out first and he always has some funny little story to tell us and eventually someone else has to do the repair. The unit was replaced and everything has been performing fine.

I called a representative with American Home Shield for my water heater, and the contractors that they sent to my home were fantastic. I thought he was going to say that I need a new heater and it would take a few days, but he had one in his van and immediately replaced my heater that was leaking. It’s worked fine now since the replacement, and I haven’t had any problems. I was very happy, and I had an excellent experience, however the only thing I was upset about was when I had a problem with one of the air conditioning unit during the winter months here. My AC kept turning on and off every 30 seconds, and AHS said that there was a 48-hour response time before they get to the unit. My understanding was if it’s an emergency, it would be within 24 hours that they’d come and service my appliance, and I could be wrong but to me it was an emergency.

I called AHS and they made an appointment. They showed me something about resetting the unit, and I did it. I called back to let them know that it was taken care of, and they wanted to send somebody out to take a look at my AC and I said I didn’t want to do that since at that time my AC was already running for a day, and I let it go for a day because AHS said I had 48 hours, and my unit cleared up. My AC had a deductible, and I’ve got to pay for it if the servicemen would come out and my AC was working okay. Despite this, I have recommended AHS to a couple of my family members.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the air conditioning. My husband tried to submit the claim on the phone and it was all automated. He's from England and has an accent and the voice recognition does not understand him. The contractor that came out immediately figured out what was wrong and had the parts that we needed in the truck. He fixed it and explained to my husband what had happened. He was in and out of there in about 15 minutes. And we were just getting ready to go into 3 or 4 days of 105 degrees so that was really helpful. Every time we've had to have someone out, they've always been good and knew what they were doing and fixed the problem. We didn't have to wait a long time for them.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a refrigerator. The representative was very cordial and courteous. For the contractor, he came out about three times and on the first time, he looked at it and recommended that I get something new. I don't think that they make the type of refrigerator we have now, so I actually filed a claim to get the repairs. He was very patient and didn't rush the repair. Had a few little items that didn't go right and he came back and recalibrated the compressor

Overall, I had a great experience with his service and the refrigerator is doing awesome since the repair. It's hard to say if it was working like it was before but with new parts, I'm thinking it's just as efficient. So overall, this wasn't one of those things wherein you get in a snag, call for a service and you have to wait on the contractor. In my situation, I requested service on Thursday or Friday and I needed them to come quick. But the first service contractor wasn’t available until the following week so I was given a different contractor. He then came out on Monday, so it was quick.

The more expensive American Home Shield gets, the less I'm satisfied. I’m a realtor but it’s very hard for me to recommend it when I’m having so much trouble in my home. You will be on hold for at least half an hour if you call them to talk about something. If it gets submitted on the web and not choose your contractor or the time, hopefully that contractor that they have will call you.

The last contractor that they send out was terrible. He was very concerned about getting his $100 check-in amount, and the first thing he says when he walks through the door, “I need you to write my check. I need to get my check. I’m really supposed to get it right when I walk in the house.” That’s a very bad first sight but I said, “Okay, fine, I’d be glad to go get my purse and write you a check.” I had to tell him what was wrong, and he agreed with me, and then he said, “Well, that’s not covered by American Home Shield.” It was fine with me and I told him to see what they would charge to fix the problem. But they never called me back.

I have three American Home Shield warranties and I used to be a satisfied customer. I find American Home Shield's service is getting worse. Every time they come out to do repair, you have to call them back two or three times to get it right. And usually if I had a problem, I would call the company representative and she’s not there anymore. I’m not impressed and it’s gone very expensive. Most of my service calls are $100, but it was $65 per contractor when I first started.

I called again and the next contractor said they didn't have the experience to work on our unit. I called again and got the run around where they pushed me off to dispatch to find another contractor. I even asked for a supervisor and was told that they didn't have one and that I would get the same response. I was told that they put an emergency request on my account. I didn't hear anything, so the next morning I called again, and was told that dispatch was working it. I pushed and finally was told if I didn't hear anything to call back. My most recent claim from American Home Shield was for my refrigerator. The problem was that the filter was not put correctly. So the first guy that looked at it told me that it needed a new filter, so I got a new filter. The second guy that came installed that filter and said that the other one wasn't right. But in the end, it turned out to be a good experience. The water was tasting yucky and there was a lot of noise at night, so it was the filter that wasn't right, but it's doing fine now.

I've paid my contract because I had a credit card on file and that credit card got switched because I went through Home Depot and I didn't change it with their guys. So, there were a couple of credit card things that didn't go through. But I called in and made the necessary payment to pay out the contract. After that, the rep I was talking to researched it and said it was fine.

Then the next time I called, I asked for the supervisor. That time, the guy would not let me speak to the supervisor. He took the information. Then the third time, I did speak to the supervisor. She researched and said that I still owe money and that she was going to send the information to me. I said I needed to see the actual billing where my account has been credited with the date. I need to see it in writing, but I never got that. So somebody else called me again. Of course, I'm upset. I called back this time and spoke to a rep who told me that I still owed two payments to satisfy that contract.

Anyway, earlier this week or last week, I finally got a written copy and it said that my account was not past due. It was paid up as of May. But in between that time, I got a phone call about renewing. I wanted to renew it because it expired in August. So they told me in order to renew it, I had to pay the two billings, which they were saying were past due but I knew I didn't owe. And I was right. So overall, the services are fine, but the billing is crappy. I was upset about signing up again because of the billing. It's like they had two separate accounts. One person looks here and one person looks there, and they come up with two different conclusions. But I know what's the truth. So that's my deal, although I have already recommended them to a friend.

I think that for the number of claims that you put in, it might be a little expensive. I'm not really pleased with my experience with American Home Shield. I called in June and I was having problems with my air conditioner. They came out and they put a compressor. Then I called back again because I was having problems. I didn't know if the air conditioner had leaked or one of the air ducts was mildewed on the outside. They came out but he called my brother before he got here to ask what do we think the problem is. My brother said that they were the professional and that is why they came here. So when he came out, he looked. He really didn't do anything. He didn't go into the attic and he didn't check. I paid $100. See, I work out of the country so I have to have people to come here and check. So he came in, I paid the $100. He said he was going redirect the service call. That took a while.

I called AHS. I called them to see if he had redirected it, to see if it the was the air conditioner or whatever. They said they never received it. Every time I would call, I would be holding on the telephone. I'm in a rack holding on the phone for over 45 minutes. So then when I came home this Saturday, my air conditioner was not working. So I called American Home Shield again. They sent one out. This time I was shocked because they answered the phone quickly. The guy came out. He said that he had to submit his work request to AHS and he said he needed to call. Now, he said I had to pay $1600. So my question is, if I'm paying a monthly fee, and every time they come out another $100 whether they do anything or not, and then I got to pay additional $1600, why should I have a service plan?

I submit my claim to them every time over the phone. They representative handled it as best as they could, other than waiting the whole time. But the last person, she said that she hadn't had it. They were supposed to redirect it but she said I was going to get a phone call. I never got a phone call back to see what he redirected. I still paid $100 and they didn't do anything. I had the services since 2011. So, I got to pay $1600. Well, I already got another air conditioning company, I went on and paid to have my air conditioner fixed. So I just cancelled my AHS and I'll just deal with my stuff directly.

I'm angry with the situation. As a matter of fact, I had three people, which before this incident I had, joined the policy and I just called them and told them the bad experience and told them that I cancelled it. My neighbor behind me had joined. So I told them, it's up to them if they want to continue the service. I joined this service by word of mouth. I've been in the service since 2001. I have never had any maintenance problems other than my air conditioning this time. Because normally, it's just been quick stuff that they come in, pay $100. And I said, okay. But this time, I just cancelled.

I have been 100% satisfied with American Home Shield. They are fast, efficient and a wonderful company. I have them in my home and two of my homes that I had owned previously. All of my children have AHS in their home and anybody that I see who says they're having air conditioning problems, I tell them "When you get it fixed, then call American Home Shield and get insurance on it so you don't have to have that big expense again." One or two of my houses are in the Ferriday, Louisiana area, and there are hardly no service people down there, but they have treated me totally great.

I live a hundred miles north of where this house is so I'm not down there to see that the work is completed and that it's done right. I have to rely on the renter to tell me that everything is working. Once, I was told that the air conditioner wasn't working even after the man fixed it. So after the renters moved out, we moved down there and found out that it actually was working. They just didn't want to turn it on because they thought that it ran the electricity deal up. I was complaining to AHS just because of what the renter told me. So right now it looks like the last person who worked on it didn't fix it, but he actually did. American Home Shield works great with me when anything like that happens.

However, when the 1999-model microwave broke, the repairman that came out was on the phone with a representative and said, "Well, even though you can't get the parts anymore, you have to send the motherboard in for a repair." That was more money than a new microwave. I had to wait two weeks and the repairman said they won't be able to fix it. American Home Shield may have wasted some money and certainly wasted my time in waiting to have it replaced. With something that old and with no replacement parts, it would've made more sense to go right to a replacement.

Other than that, everything else has been great anytime we've made a phone call in, especially when I submitted a claim regarding my air conditioning. The young man they sent was amazing. I’ve been with American Home Shield for years, and submitting claims was an easy task. Their technicians were good and they do their job. AHS gives you the service you need and they always follow up with you. I never had to complain about the repairs they’ve done, and I couldn’t be happier with the company. I recommend them to a lot of people, since I own a vitamin store and I always tell my customers about them.

The air conditioner went out so we called American Home Shield. I told the representative what my problem was. I also told him that my wife is a heart patient and we're stuck on a weekend with 114 to 116 degree temperatures. The representative got busy on it. The contractor got out here Saturday morning and confirmed that unfortunately, our AC was gone. They juggled their schedules and did the best they could to get it done within a few days which they did, on the next hottest day in Arizona on a Friday afternoon. Working with American Home Shield was what we expected. My wife used to work for American Home Shield as a rep years ago so were very familiar with them. We're both retired real estate brokers and we've been around American Home Shield for years.

American Home shield was very good. I was out of town when I had some stuff done and I told them I have to get it done because I can't live without the air conditioner, and they took care of it. Submitting the claim was okay but it didn't cover the whole thing. I still had to pay. They came and looked at it and they said I need a new motor and it cost me about $250 extra.

Please be accurate and fair with your comments. Remember, you are responsible for what you write. See our Review Guidelines if you have questions. I had AHS for over 10 years when I lived in Texas and the service was always great. So when I moved to Okla I took out the AHS service. Sat 8/15 I called AHS about 7PM because our air conditioner had gone out and we had a person here recently diagnosed with cancer and could not make it through the weekend in a hot house. I explained this to the lady that answered the phone and she said she would schedule someone to come out but it may not be until Mon or Tue.

After the work order was scheduled I called the company they selected and got essentially the same answer. I called AHS back and asked if I could have other names of companies AHS have contract with so I could call them and see if they would make a late Sat service call. I was told by the lady that she could not do that. Once the service call is let to a company they can't change it to another company unless that company does not perform. Sooo, I called around and found a company that came out and repaired my air conditioner at 9PM Sat and charged me $100. I think that AHS could have been a little more flexible in helping to find someone for a late night weekend service call.

I submitted a claim for the dishwasher and the stove and I had a pleasant interaction with the technician that American Home Shield sent. I asked him what he was doing, what the problem with the appliances were, and he was more than willing to explain to the best of his ability. Everything is good. I will recommend them.

I recently submitted a claim for the water heater and the process was easy. Their contractor who came to my home was friendly and answered all my questions. However, there's a lot of red tape to go through to get something done sometimes. He brought the water heater out to fix it and they didn't want to fix it just then. Ultimately, we ended up replacing it which was better for us but it took days for them to figure that out.

I had one service order I’ve placed with American Home Shield and it went smoothly. Their techs were fast to work. One of them tracked in some mud, but he went back and cleaned it up, which I appreciated. I’ve rarely interacted with them which for me is great, and that it means I’ve had no issues. But it’s been a great experience as far as they were easy to get ahold of when I needed them.

I had a refrigerator, and washing machine problem. In submitting claims to AHS, waiting on the phone is difficult, so I gave up and started working on the computer which is a lot faster. Their technicians have been wonderful, and I'm very happy with AHS. The deductible, however, could always be cheaper but that’s only because I don’t have much money and I don’t have any idea whether it’s reasonable or not.

AHS was very responsive in dealing with whatever issues there are. I called to submit a claim regarding plumbing. Their staff was good and the contractor that was sent out showed on time. I described what the problem was and he went on and took care of it. They provided excellent service and were very knowledgeable about the policy I have with them. Since the repair, there have been no problems. I would recommend them to a friend.

I usually do everything online when submitting a claim. My recent claim was when I had my bathroom all clogged up. My son was using those wipees instead of toilet paper and that's what clogged it up because they weren't even going to the sewage... they were getting stuck in the toilet itself. The contractors were fine, came out and did what they had to do, and were done really fast. The toilet's been good since the repair.

I've not had any problems with AHS. My other house in Maricopa where my mom lives, I have AHS there for many years, and I love it. AHS is very highly recommended by me. Any chance I get, I mention them to my coworkers which majority of them opened up an account. Hopefully, one of these days AHS will give me a discount.

The air conditioning didn't work so we had to call AHS and my experience with their reps have always been good. I've never had any issues with anybody and any negative customer service at all. The technician they sent came over and the AC worked a little bit but that wasn't perfect and kept being dysfunctional. We've put up with it for a couple of weeks and made my way through to make it work as best as I could but I had enough of that. I called them again and they came out, did more diagnosing, and found more things that were wrong. It hasn't been fixed yet but rumor has it that the parts would be checked out here today or yesterday and then they can install it sometime after that point. One of the things on my to-do list today is to call and ask the repair people if they got the parts and if they did, I was going to schedule the repair which might be nice since it's hot in Texas.

The only issue I have with American Home Shield is that there's always a long hold time to get into the service. It might be 10 or 15 minutes, sometimes longer and that's not good or bad. But what other companies that have long hold times do is that they have a system in which you just type in your phone number and they do a callback that day usually from another service. I didn't have to sit tied to my phone hoping somebody will talk and I could do other things and that's a lot more productive. Other than that, they've been good and everybody has been very accommodating and helpful.

On the 29th of June I called American Home Shield regarding my heater - there was no heat. I didn't have any problems with the rep I talked with and the guy they sent out was fantastic. He is from Parsons Heating and Air out in Ballinger. I live in Coleman which is 30 miles from him, but he's good. He was prompt, came in, replaced the fan motor and something else, and got the job done. Now, the heater's working better than before. AHS has been exceptional, I've got zero complaints. Kind of unbelievable because I've used them several times. I've had them for my air conditioning and once for my dishwasher. They've been so good that I even told my friends about it and some of them have contacted AHS and got the policy.

Refrigerator compressor went out and American Home Shield dragged their feet for about ten days before finding a part. All the time, I was living out of an ice chest. I can't understand why in the United States of America, they can't find a part for ten days. I filed a claim online and spoke to a representative, and they feel like they had the ultimate authority, and I could just do what they said or not call again. The contractor was wonderful and did great service, but again, they're handled and controlled by AHS. Even though I'm paying the money for the contract, I'm still not considered a customer. I'm angry with this experience.

My air conditioner went out again. I prefer to speak to a human so I used the telephone to submit the claim, and they had someone call me. The contractor was supposed to have been here between 10 and 2, but I got a call at 1 saying he'll be a few hours late. He came at 8 o'clock at night, but it got fixed and now it's working as normal. They, however, replaced the same part they replaced two months ago, so I'm not sure if I got a bad part or they're using seconds. We'll see how long this one works. Nevertheless, AHS works fine.

American Home Shield has been good so far. When I submitted a claim for my air conditioning unit, the contractor came on the time he said he was going to. He didn't have the right part so he had to go back and get that. He then scheduled another time, and now it's doing great. AHS is a good insurance.
