Our air conditioning was leaking so we called American Home Shield to get someone sent out to try to fix it. When we called in for our claim, it was a very long wait followed by a brief time of answering two to three questions, and then the representative said they were going to send someone out. But the people that was in charge of scheduling dropped the ball and didn't tell me that someone was being sent out. Luckily I was home when the contractor came out. He was great and fixed everything within 10 minutes and our A/C didn't have any issues again. I don't feel that American Home Shield cares about my business a whole lot, but they get the job done.

My husband was present when the contractors American Home Shield sent out fixed my dishwasher, but I didn't have any issues or concerns, and they took care of my problem smoothly. The only problem I had with them was that there was a situation last June. I have ended my contract because I was upset with the solution. I had an air conditioning problem at that time, and when AHS sent a person, they didn’t resolve the problem and I ended up having to pay somebody else on the side extra even though I was paying for American Home Shield. That was over a year ago, so it was disappointing. Then initiated to contract again with AHS, this time, it was a different problem and it was fixed quickly.

The contractor that was sent came out and tested the unit, had an idea what it takes to fix it, then ordered a part. It took a couple of weeks just to get the part verified and make sure it was okay with the warranty. Finally about 3 weeks in, they tried to fix it but they didn't fix the problem so they went back and tried again. The guy called me and was supposedly at the house last week. I told him I wasn't going to be there but he knows where the problem is and he said he'd take care of it. I never saw him but he might have come while I wasn't here but it's still not fixed. He didn't leave any note or anything that he had been here.
I called them on Saturday because I thought he was able to come and do it. I just left a message and said, "Hey let me know what happens." I want to make sure something's going on so I asked him if he could keep me updated yet I haven't heard anything. I'm thinking of calling them again because they don't follow up on anything or tell me when they think things are going to happen such as when they would come. That's all I want. I don't know where we are right now and I guess they're not going to fix it anymore. But there was no problem with American Home Shield. It's not their fault that the guy or the company handling the claim don't do a good job with communication. As far as having somebody call me and the claims that I've made, everything has been really good. So I would recommend them.

The last service that we've had with the electrician that AHS sent out went fine. Not just with that one, but all the guys that have come here have been great. I usually call them to submit my claim and their reps go above and beyond in providing customer service. In fact, this company is one that still gives the customer the service they deserve. I have nothing but good things to say about AHS and would recommend them to others.

My most recent claim with American HomeShield was about plumbing and they were prompt about it. The gentleman that came in to do the work did a good job. There are no problems at all and so far, the performance of the unit is good since the repair. In general, we have been very pleased with AHS. If there is a difficulty with the problem that was not taken care of, they would usually send someone out. We've been with them since 1997 and continued because of their good service. The experiences have been very positive and I have recommended them out quite a bit.

My refrigerator that American Home Shield serviced will have a compressor installed the second time, and this has happened within a three month period. I’ve lost all my food, so it’s a costly repair for me. The repairman put a rush order trying to get the compressor fixed, but I’m still without a refrigerator. Living on social security, this is hard to deal with and I wonder how many more times this is going to happen to me. I know it’s not American Home Shield’s fault but I don’t understand why we keep fixing the thing and keep losing money. Currently I’m living out of a little cooler trying to keep my insulin cold because I’m a diabetic. I’m frustrated and this isn’t a good experience.

We've been with American Home Shield for many years and they've always taken good care of us. All of our stuff is under them, and so far we're satisfied with them. Recently, we called to have some electrical work done and didn't have any trouble with the contractor they sent - he was good. Now, everything is working fine. We also need something done with our washing machine and dryer, but I don't know what AHS would do since they're both getting old. We've had the washing machine since 1993 and it's getting to the point where it's not taking all the water and soap out of the linens. I don't know what to do whether it needs a new component unless somebody comes to look at it.

We contacted AHS and asked for a plumber to come in the house and check on leaks from our restroom. Compared to the the earlier work order I submitted, this one was easy. The plumber showed up right away. The one prior to this, we had some difficulty because we submitted the work order through the website and then after 30 days, we didn't hear anything. Since we had the phone number and name of the plumber, we called three times. Every time, there was no one - it was just voicemail. We couldn't reach them to have a schedule. It wasn't until 30 days later when someone finally called us saying there were some issues with their email system and they didn't get a notice. But it's been resolved. So far, with the exception of that experience, we've received quick response. The technicians who came were professional and got the job done in the amount of time they said they would.

The air conditioner went out so we called American Home Shield. I told the representative what my problem was. I also told him that my wife is a heart patient and we're stuck on a weekend with 114 to 116 degree temperatures. The representative got busy on it. The contractor got out here Saturday morning and confirmed that unfortunately, our AC was gone. They juggled their schedules and did the best they could to get it done within a few days which they did, on the next hottest day in Arizona on a Friday afternoon. Working with American Home Shield was what we expected. My wife used to work for American Home Shield as a rep years ago so were very familiar with them. We're both retired real estate brokers and we've been around American Home Shield for years.

Please be accurate and fair with your comments. Remember, you are responsible for what you write. See our Review Guidelines if you have questions. I had AHS for over 10 years when I lived in Texas and the service was always great. So when I moved to Okla I took out the AHS service. Sat 8/15 I called AHS about 7PM because our air conditioner had gone out and we had a person here recently diagnosed with cancer and could not make it through the weekend in a hot house. I explained this to the lady that answered the phone and she said she would schedule someone to come out but it may not be until Mon or Tue.
After the work order was scheduled I called the company they selected and got essentially the same answer. I called AHS back and asked if I could have other names of companies AHS have contract with so I could call them and see if they would make a late Sat service call. I was told by the lady that she could not do that. Once the service call is let to a company they can't change it to another company unless that company does not perform. Sooo, I called around and found a company that came out and repaired my air conditioner at 9PM Sat and charged me $100. I think that AHS could have been a little more flexible in helping to find someone for a late night weekend service call.

I recently submitted a claim for the water heater and the process was easy. Their contractor who came to my home was friendly and answered all my questions. However, there's a lot of red tape to go through to get something done sometimes. He brought the water heater out to fix it and they didn't want to fix it just then. Ultimately, we ended up replacing it which was better for us but it took days for them to figure that out.

The contractors were fine, came out and did what they had to do, and were done really fast. The toilet's been good since the repair.
I've not had any problems with AHS. My other house in Maricopa where my mom lives, I have AHS there for many years, and I love it. AHS is very highly recommended by me. Any chance I get, I mention them to my coworkers which majority of them opened up an account. Hopefully, one of these days AHS will give me a discount.

The air conditioning didn't work so we had to call AHS and my experience with their reps have always been good. I've never had any issues with anybody and any negative customer service at all. The technician they sent came over and the AC worked a little bit but that wasn't perfect and kept being dysfunctional. We've put up with it for a couple of weeks and made my way through to make it work as best as I could but I had enough of that. I called them again and they came out, did more diagnosing, and found more things that were wrong. It hasn't been fixed yet but rumor has it that the parts would be checked out here today or yesterday and then they can install it sometime after that point. One of the things on my to-do list today is to call and ask the repair people if they got the parts and if they did, I was going to schedule the repair which might be nice since it's hot in Texas.
The only issue I have with American Home Shield is that there's always a long hold time to get into the service. It might be 10 or 15 minutes, sometimes longer and that's not good or bad. But what other companies that have long hold times do is that they have a system in which you just type in your phone number and they do a callback that day usually from another service. I didn't have to sit tied to my phone hoping somebody will talk and I could do other things and that's a lot more productive. Other than that, they've been good and everybody has been very accommodating and helpful.

He was prompt, came in, replaced the fan motor and something else, and got the job done. Now, the heater's working better than before. AHS has been exceptional, I've got zero complaints. I filed a claim online and spoke to a representative, and they feel like they had the ultimate authority, and I could just do what they said or not call again. I had a very disappointing experience with AHS. I called them because I had no hot water. However, they did not ask me anything. They didn't want to know what was wrong, so they could not make an intelligent selection of a contractor or they didn't know what their contractors' abilities were. So, when AHS contractor called me, I told him that we have a Noritz which is a tankless water heater. Unfortunately, he said that he doesn't know anything about that.
It happened on a Friday and I've got out-of-town guests staying with us. So, I also called the plumber that I do use all the time, who installed my tank with water heater. We made arrangements and he came out. Apparently, the circuit board of the water heater went dead, and we were able to have it overnighted to our house. Then, the circuit board was installed by 11 o'clock Saturday morning.
Then, the other plumber, AHS contractor, called and said that he couldn't be on our house for another four days. I said "Well, forget it. Cancel the warranty call." I wrote this on the email. I was also requested to make a comment and I did. But I didn't get a response because I said, "How about paying the $475 that it had cost me to have this done?" Aside from that, I have another problem that is covered by AHS and needs to be done by weekend. And since I cannot trust AHS to do anything in that short period of time, I'm having a private person do it. So I'm not that crazy about AHS right now. I'm so much angry with them and with the person who took the call.

We had a plumbing issue that AHS fixed. Claims submission was a good process - you go online and set it up and then they will call you, come out, and then work with you. The plumber they sent out fixed what we needed to be fixed, so he did a good job. Some of the plumbers they sent out didn't do a very good job prior to it. AHS was a good deal for us because when we bought the house, the realtor requested that the seller buy the policy and cover any repairs required, so we spent almost a year fixing everything that was wrong with the house that we moved into. AHS is satisfactory and above average, depending on the contractor - some are good, some aren't too good. The whole process, however, is good as far as going online and getting your ticket set-up and all that.

I had no hot water and the people came out and said that it couldn’t be repaired - it was too old. I needed a new one. Sears couldn’t get parts anymore so I was getting jerked around between American Home Shield and then the repair guy. AHS kept saying “Well no, he hasn’t called us” and the repair guy replied repeatedly with “Yes, I have.” I told them it can’t be repaired. This went on for over a week. Then they put in a cheap hot water heater that’s really noisy. You can hear it upstairs when it’s heating up water. I was not happy and there’s nothing I can do about it.
After the hot water heater incident, I was supposed to get a $100 credit. But when I had another issue, I never got the credit, and the same thing went on. The provider said "they didn’t give us any extra money to pass on to you," and then American Home Shield said “Oh yeah, yeah, they’re supposed to give you that credit. But go ahead and pay them first and then I’ll give you the $100 back ‘cause we’ll pay them.” I still never saw it. But other than that and based on overall experience, I think American Home Shield warranty is a great policy and coverage to have.

In the winter I called AHS. My plumbing had stopped from a clog. Having a family of 4 this was a terrible inconvenience. I waited almost 48 hours and when no one called back I fixed the problem by taking a day off work to repair it. Not exactly cost effective. Then most recently my dishwasher broke. I called to set an appointment on the computer answering service but it didn't take and I received no receipt so I went online and did it for a second time. When no one called me in the next 24 hours I tried calling AHS three days in a row and waited over a 1/2 hour each time only to hang up and give up as I work for a living. I cannot devote 45 minutes a day to get through to my warranty company. When I did the contractor was rude and finally showed up basically telling my 82 year old mother she could have cleaned it out herself (REALLY?)
Once he left I came home tried the dishwasher and it still did not work. Oh and did I tell you they knocked the door off track and it wouldn't close adding more work for myself? So glad I purchased a warranty so I wouldn't have to be bothered!! As of today it is still not fixed. They told me they would be out Saturday and today is Monday and I haven't even heard from anyone. Oh wait except their survey on how it went. Needless to say I blasted them and I will be switching to CHOICE HOME WARRANTY once this issue is resolved. The only thing they have done for me is raise rates like clockwork. How do these people still exist?? PLEASE DON'T USE THEM. I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else!

I’ve used American Home Shield twice on my air conditioner and it's been great. I originally submitted the claim online but had to call back in and let them know that I needed the air conditioner and get them to put a priority as my wife is handicapped and she can't breathe real well if she didn't have it. The representative has helped me very much on it. The first time, the contractor spotted the problem real quick, it's with my heater and it has a blown fuse. He checked it out, replaced the fuse, tested and retested it, then fixed it for us in a very short time.
The second problem was that the drain had stopped up on my air conditioner. The man came out and he looked at it. We kept talking about what it's done and he said “Well, it could be your thermostat,” it shows on there that it's in recovery (mode). It's trying to go back to move to a different point than what it’s at and if it's in recovery so it's been running. Then I suggest – off the top of my head – "Do you think the drain could be stopped up?" And he said "That's a very good thing."
So he went in there and fixed the drain but he didn’t warn me that I needed to put something over to cover it. The drain went from the conditioner to the bathroom sink and when it blew the pressure out of it, it went to blow it back up to the sink. I had stuff all over my bathroom and all over me. The first time he did it, it didn't move much. But the third time he did, it blew all that stuff out and so it went everywhere. But after that, we were okay and it worked fine, he did me a good job. Now, the units have performed perfectly. So far, I've been extremely satisfied though it's a bit hard to get a hold of customer service sometimes as they are extremely busy. But other than that, I haven’t had any problem. I'd definitely recommend them.

Their claims process has been painless ‘coz you just call them and tell the situation. They come out and look at it, then they either fix or don’t fix it. The last one I called them, they didn’t fix because the problem was far too comprehensive to their ability. But all of them have good personality, hard workers, willing to explain anything they’re doing, why they’re doing, and point out to you what it is, how it happened or how they think it happened, so they’re really fantastic.

Our contractor came out to resolve two issues: a dishwasher not heating, and a stove-top burner not working. He was knowledgeable on both appliances, and fixed the dishwasher readily. A part needed to be ordered for the stove-top. When he came back at a later date, he fixed the stove-top as well. These repairs were non-trivial, but our contractor made them seem routine. He was polite and efficient, and was respectful of our time and home.

I submitted a claim online for a water leak on our main water line coming into the house. Everything worked out fine because it turned out not to be a problem. The person that informed us of the water leak was mistaken. There wasn't actually anything wrong. My experience with the other claims have been fine although we did have a problem with one plumber that we had used with getting a hold of him and everything scheduled. They weren't showing up when they said they would. They wouldn't return phone calls. So we contacted American Home Shield to get a different plumber which was fine.
All the other contractors that they sent for any of our other claims, they've all been fine. They've been generally in and out to take care of the problem. Since the repair, everything's been running fine. I'm very thankful we have American Home Shield. It was definitely a good investment and we plan to keep renewing as long as we can. It's been a great experience. It's been very helpful and it saved us a lot of sleepless nights.

Our most recent claim was for the air conditioner unit and it was our second time with the same AC company. I can't say enough good things about American Home Shield. Everything has been top notch. Once you've been with them for long enough, you know which air conditioner or appliance company to ask for, and they honor your request asking for that specific vendor. You get phone calls, in 24 to 48 hours at the longest, from the vendor to make an appointment. They come and take care of it. If they can't, somebody else is sent out. There has been a number of calls we made to American Home Shield in since 2013 - the garbage disposal froze and they sent a plumber out, we also had a problem twice with our KitchenAid big refrigerator and they sent someone to take care of it. Every one of them has been a 5-star experience.

The most recent claim I had for AHS was for the dryer. I had to call because they actually submitted with a second call about the dryer. They submitted it to Sears, and I actually have a complicated situation. My ex-husband's second ex-wife's name is Michele (the first one is Martha). Apparently, she had an account at Sears. So every time anything get sent to Sears, for some reason, they tag it to her, and I have missed the original phone call about setting up a time. So when I called back, I spend 30 minutes on the phone with Sears arguing with them that I was not Michele, I was Melissa and they told me that I didn't have a record. Then I had to call American Home Shield back and then they actually had to book it.
Then the guy came out and he rewired what was wrong with the dryer, but then when I use it, it got extremely hot. It smelt like it was on fire, so I had to unplug it. When I called back Sears, it would take them three weeks to be able to come back out. So I actually had to pull that dryer out of that home and put in a different one in there. When I called American Home Shield to let them know what I did, because I'm not trying to rip anybody off, they told me that since I had pulled it out, they would have to cancel the recall on it because I removed it from the house, which makes sense.
The contractor that they sent out to repair the dryer was really, really nice. I don't think it was of any fault of him. We ended up having to go and fix it ourselves because they wouldn't, because they couldn't send anybody out because we removed it. The dryer works wonderful now that we spent 150 bucks to have it fixed on our own. Overall, I still recommend American Home Shield, that company is great. I felt that it wasn’t ethical to offer notice with the renewal of the bill and then to turn them down when I wanted to use the service. I wanted to continue my membership with them because I liked the plan but I think that it’s not right to offer somebody a plan and the party sent in their payment, and then when you want to use the plan they penalize you for it. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield has been easy when they send somebody out. However, currently I’m having a plumbing problem, and when they do something, they say it’s only for 60 days. To me, it’s not enough because we have a plumbing problem or an air conditioning problem, and it might be three months down the line. Some months ago, I had some plumbing done. I knew they had put in a toilet and they said it was done on June 17th. I called in yesterday, so being a couple of days past that day, I got to pay an additional $100 and it got me upset a little bit. Some months back, they had unstopped the tub in that same bathroom.
I’ve also been dealing with air condition in this house, and several days I’ve been over the weekend for them to come out or whatever they might do. Then I have to suffer however long because it’s been hot, so it’s been one thing after another. The technicians have been nice and seem to know what they’re doing, but it seems like I’m still having a problem and I want it fixed. If I have any more problems, I’ve got to pay more money for them to come out, and I believe that when you do something, you need to make sure it sticks. I shouldn’t have to call back and call back. I’m reaching my limit at this point but I understand because I used to work with a company and I try to be patient and understanding.

They sent a plumber out on Wednesday to look at what was causing the leakage. By the time the plumber came out the ceiling started leaking and it was partially exposed where you could see the pink fibers hanging down from the attic. Water was dripping everywhere. Anyway the plumber said it was an AC issue and he could not do anything. So I sat on hold with AHS and the next day they sent an AC tech out. He blew the line out and said it was leaking because of the condensation line being blocked and after he blew the line it would stop.
It did not stop leaking and now my AC unit is leaking water on my hardwood floors which are now buckling due to the water. AHS sent both guys out again and now the water has drained into another area which has the wall damp and the carpet soaked in my master bedroom. But the worst experience was 2 months later when our hot water heater broke and leaked water everywhere. We drained the hot water, cut the water off to the heater, and waited SIX days for AHS to come out. They confirmed we would need a new hot water heater and would order one.
Nothing special about it, just a standard 50 gal. electric hot water heater in stock everywhere. We were then told it would be another week before they could schedule the replacement. No matter how many times I called AHS or the contractor, same answer. I asked if I could hire a plumber to do the work and send in for reimbursement and was told no. One person I talked to at American Home Shield apologized and when I confirmed that I already paid the $75, said that they're going to refund the amount. Nevertheless, the contractors were wonderful and good. The AC has been fine. No problem whatsoever.

When the compressor of our built-in refrigerator went out, I called AHS to submit a claim. The AHS rep said that she would send a message to the repair firm and told me to expect a phone call from them in the near future. The technician they sent out was professional and courteous. He then analyzed the issue with the refrigerator and noticed that it needed a new compressor. So, he went back to his place, ordered the compressor and when he came in, he installed it.

I have two policies with American Home Shield, one for my home and one for my rental home. The last call we had was for the air conditioner problem in my rental home. Submitting the claim was always an easy process. I’ve been a customer of AHS for seven years and have had a few glitches, but overall I’ve had a very good experience with them. There are some contractors that I’m happy with, but when I have a bad experience, I always call and let AHS know that I was uncomfortable or not pleased with the contractor, and they find me another.

We found out through visiting my son in Yuma about the Home Shield and they showed us what had been wrong and how they took care of everything. We didn't even know what type of insurance it was but we went ahead and did it. Every time we've had a problem and someone came, they certainly send the people that know what they're doing, and we're very pleased. I had told my grandchild that if they needed a good plumber or for the heat and air, this company sends out exceptional people.

I'm waiting for my air conditioner to be fixed today. Two days ago, I asked them to come out and they said they'd be here between eight and twelve. I left both my phone numbers to them and I've been here. The contractor called at nine this morning. He lied and said that they had called and nobody answered. I informed American Home Shield this morning and then now they put me off to come sometime between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. My whole day is ruined. I told them I would not allow strangers in my home with my children after dark in dinner hours and could they get somebody else, and they said no.
Before that, I have had good things and they have been helpful. American Home Shield staff on the phone were nice. However my payment for the last service call was not yet updated so I had to pay in advance to make a work order. The contractor I paid didn't notify American Home Shield so I called them to prove my payment and then basically to get a reimbursement. I'm not saying that it's bad , but I'm not really excited right this minute. We have only had them for half a year and I've had no problems. I'm hoping I won't have any today.

We have an old home so we expect problems here and there, and in the past two months, we've made three claims to AHS. The first time, I called because I wasn't around a computer, but the last two times, I did it over the computer. Doing it through the computer is a little easier because I literally just click three times and that's it. And so far, we have not had problems submitting our claims, talking to anyone, or getting them to come out. The people who came out here were also very good. Since the problems we've had were always due to plumbing, we've had the same companies come out and service us which I think was nice because we get familiar with the people.
They came here three separate times and they've been pleasant, very polite and informative. While they were looking at stuff, they sat and explained piece by piece what was wrong. Their repairs were also good. Since the repairs, we've had no further issues. My most recent claim to AHS was about the leak in our tub and it was determined that it will not be covered under our policy. So far, AHS has been helpful to us. In early March this year, a buildup started at the back of our refrigerator, around the condenser. American Home Shield sent out a contractor and he was great. He explained everything to me step by step. He worked with me and I worked with him. There was no negativity. He told me what to do and what the possibilities were. He said that the hose which should have been circulating cold water for the refrigerator was so small that it would freeze up and not let any other condensation get in. He tried to replace the hose and it was discovered that everything was bad. The last time the hose froze, the whole unit froze. There was no replacement, and to me it seemed there was history with Samsung refrigerators doing that. So I ended up getting another refrigerator.

Then I heard it's going up again and I don't like that. I bought my house in 2005 and everything is in good condition. It's still basically new so I am not foreseeing any kind of major breakdown where they will have to replace an appliance. Water was leaking from our swamp cooler so I called American Home Shield and they came out. Back in the corner, the technician played with this thing - he kept pushing it down and letting it come back up, and pushing it down and it stopped leaking. He closed it all back up and he said the problem was that the pads needed to be changed out, and it looked like the water was running off - like it has gotten old. We put new pads in last year, but we didn’t put new ones in the beginning of this year since we had our first pad for three years and they were fine. So I didn’t think you have to change them every year. The swamp cooler didn't leak again for almost a week, but then it started dripping again - so the pads really are bad.
When they fixed our microwave, they gave us a receipt for all the parts and everything they had to put into it and all of that added up to way more than $400. Submitting a claim with AHS was pretty easy. Except when they put me on hold, I'm on hold for freaking ever. And it’s always due to a storm in another part of the country, or due to excessive electrical demand. My daughter has their policy, too and she’s in Virginia. She’s on hold for over half an hour and then the problem doesn’t get resolved. There’s a lot of them going to call her back.
However the service and repairs are always done well. I haven’t had any problem with that. But as far as being on hold and if they can’t take care of something, it might take a couple of days or three or four more phone calls to get it taken care of. An example would be when my daughter has Viking appliance in her house and they've had trouble getting someone to service that. They have to go through a rigmarole before they’ll allow her to get somebody to come and fix it.
The technicians they sent have been very pleasant people and have fixed the problem. I’ve had three homes with them and I’ve only had one person come that could never go to my house again. He pretty much called me a liar. My sink was leaking and he said “Well you’ve tried to fix this.” I said “I’m 58 years old. I pay for this policy. Do you think I’m gonna try and fix it myself when I can have you fix it? Are you out of your mind?” He went “Well look at this and look at this.” He didn’t fix it. But that was just that one guy so it wasn’t terrible. For 13 years with AHS, I've had to speak to a supervisor twice and they were very responsive. I have recommended AHS to friends and they have all been happy.

AHS simply does not care about service. I am a landlord and have had issues with my HVAC system. I contacted AHS to get repairs and they did send a vendor to check out my air conditioner. The vendor they chose made up some story that my repair (although covered under the AHS warranty) would cost an additional $900 for various fees. I would not pay it and contacted AHS to explain. They simply did not care - they have no review process whatsoever for these vendors. I ultimately had to do to my own vendor who charged me $650 for the repair without any so-called warranty at all.
I kept the warranty anyway since I had been paying the premium for over a year. And again another similar issue comes up with my air conditioner (but related to a different part). They once again send a vendor to check it out but the vendor couldn't get on the roof because they didn't have a ladder. WOW! AHS sent a second vendor WITH THE SAME PROBLEM! I had now been waiting 5-days to get the AC fixed for my tenant in 100 degree weather. Again, AHS simply does not care about you or the quality of their vendors. I've had my air conditioning in my new home and my rental property both fixed this past year. They replaced the unit at my rental property, and it was really a smooth good experience. The lady who handles all the communications for the company that worked on the air conditioning system called and they decided that they would send in a unit to replace the one that had dud. She kept me apprised of it the whole way until the job was completed. And I really liked that kind of contact because I knew what was happening as to how long it would take. It had stopped working during the hottest part of summer. I knew I'd die if I didn't have air on some of these hot days.
The unit here in my home was fixed really quickly. So everything was great and I'm so thrilled with it. If I have a problem, I call my agent, and she calls me with everything set up, and within a couple of hours, I'd either get somebody here at the door or a phone call notifying me when they would be here at the door. I used AHS for home inspection, where they will inspect yearly your AC. I used that plan, and within 30 days, there was a problem with my unit. They just came out and took care of it. They waived any of the $75 that I normally would've paid because it should have been caught on the inspection time frame. That impressed me. A lot of companies won't do that.
I had told so many people that AHS is the type of insurance they need. Since I am single, I cant go around fixing everything that breaks. I'm also new to the area that I'm living in, so I would not have a history with any repair people, so I rely on my agent sending out the best. And if there's a problem, they'll come back right out and fix it at no additional charge and I've had really great interactions with the contractors. I'm into my third year with AHS and I love them. They're fabulous.

I've been trying to call American Home Shield for months. It's hard to get them on the phone. You get put on hold for long periods of time, 30 minutes or more. The contractors are good about calling to set up their appointment so they're fine except for the last contractor who came here whom we called because of a bad light switch. They came out and the guy said, "It's not your light switch. It's your fixtures." There are three train switches in there. I'm an ex-home builder, I know about some of these things and I said, "No, it's just the switch." He said "Oh no. Everything's fine."
Then he wanted to come back out with another guy, take the fixtures down, keep them for however long it took, send them to someone who specializes in light fixtures and fix them. I declined and I got another electrician out here who used to be with American Home Shield. They looked at the switch and they said, "Yup. This is the problem. It's burned out." They showed me where it was burned out - a whole 9 yards. They replaced the switch and then they replaced the bulbs and the light fixture, and that was that.
I had to pay not only for the affiliate who came out here, but I also had to pay them to make a repair which was a couple hundred. American Home Shield also keeps sending me bills that I owe their company: $75 for coming out here, giving me the wrong diagnosis, agreeing to nothing, and doing nothing. They sent a subcontractor who didn't know what he was doing. That's been a little aggravating because I had two different people from the main office say "We're going to look into this and we're going to take care of this," but I keep getting bills that are not mine.
We went through the same thing when we replaced one of our water heaters. We weren't getting hot water and they said it was because we have such a big bathtub. But we've been living in the house for two years and have never had a problem before. So they sent someone else out. They said the same thing, there wasn't anything that could be done about it. I got a third person out there and they said that when they put in the new water heater, there's a connection between the 2 water heaters that's like a valve. So that when 1 water heater empties out its hot water, the water from the one next to it begins to pour out. That valve needed to be replaced. That's all it needed.
Bottom line: AHS doesn't have good contractors. They're ripping people off. I'm a home builder. I know what's wrong, I just don't want to fix it. That's why I have American Home Shield. When they come out here and give me a line of bull, I know it's a line of bull. I guess they assume most home owners are stupid, or don't want to follow up, or just throw up their hands and say, "Whatever. Here's your money." I would not recommend them to a friend. They're bad. I'm still trying to resolve the situation where they're trying to hang me with a $75 bill to a contractor who wanted to take down my light fixtures and charge me thousands to fix them. That's criminal.

I kept the mop in my hand because I couldn't wash dishes, take a bath, or do my laundry. Everything was blocking up in that sewage drain. I called AHS and they referred the case to Discount Contractors LLC. The lady from the company called me, and I couldn't reach her when I called back one hour before their closing time (I tried to reach her for 30 minutes).
Meanwhile, I sent her an email telling her I was going to cancel and going to another company - which I did. About 30 minutes later, she emailed me back. She apologized and said she had a 3:00 meeting that's why I wasn't able to get a hold of her. But I've called American Home Shield to cancel the request, and they said they had 48 hours to contact me. After that, I decided that I wasn't gonna deal with it anymore. This is my second time filing a claim with them and it wasn't a good experience at all. I also had a problem with my air conditioning back in the early part of the spring but I didn't have any problem with that. In fact, I was very pleased with the service as well as with the company and the technician that came out.

I'm not really happy with Sears. The employers are good but they don't schedule it. And they're supposed to call to let us know, but the guy shows up when we're not here. We check our phone, he never calls. And he didn't say anything about calling. Every time AHS sends Sears, there's just no communication between the technician and the office. It's a total screw up. But the guys that come out are real good and know what they're doing. We've been recommending AHS to all our neighbors, kids, brothers and sisters in law. We tell them that if they have a problem, AHS will take care of it.

I filed a claim with AHS over the phone and their reps were efficient. They evaluate the claim then they call me back and confirm that they would get somebody out to take care of it and I was happy with that. It's simple. There's nothing complicated about them and that's what customer service should be. My most recent claim was with the air conditioner. We got 113 or 114 degree heat and you want something working well. Whoever had the house before didn't get everything properly checked out but AHS got the right contractor who corrected the problem. They brought the part and they fixed it. It works perfectly since then. I would recommend them.

I liked what American Home Shield had to offer: a bigger plan for the price, and they had good reviews. The technicians that they sent out to our home have been fine, except for the one person that I still don't have an itemized receipt from. We ended up upgrading. AHS and their techs do their thing, and we are responsible if we want to do anything other than the work originally contracted for. We would pay for the additional work, so when we did that, the other guy took advantage. But I haven't had any issues with AHS itself. In fact I have already recommended AHS and somebody signed up yesterday.

My experience with American Home Shield is sometimes good and wonderful and sometimes bad and terrible. I don't to submit claims online. I call them in. The representatives and contractors they send are 95-98% wonderful, great and terrific. My recent claim is about the plumbing, which has always been a good experience. Since the repairs, the performance of the plumbing is wonderful.
If there's something in doubt, they are extremely difficult to deal with. You can never depend on their callback. You can never rely on their efficiency. When we did have a problem, "Oh, well get in touch with you tomorrow". Tomorrow very seldom ever came for them. I did have a problem with a microwave and it's still kind of pending up in the air, but we'll get it resolved one day. Overall, my experience with them is very good. I would recommend them.

When our home warranty contract with Old Republic ended, we researched several different companies and found that American Home Shield was the best bang for our buck. They covered more in what was available. That's why for the last four years, we've used American Home Shield. So far, 80% have been good experiences. There have been a couple of bad experiences but for the most part these were not directly because of American Home Shield, but because of the contractors they used. So we've continued to stay with them and use their services.
This year, I found out through customer service that we can pay less premium if we increased our service call. I was unaware of this because we've always paid $75 to the contractor. Since we need someone to come out and service our air conditioner every year, we decided to bump up our service call to $125 and pay only $500 for premium. We like this because we do the upkeep of the house and only use American Home Shield's services a couple times a year. But having that home warranty is a security blanket for us in case something does happen. I'm glad that the customer service of American Home Shield had gone above and beyond to tell us about that option.
My overall experience with American Home Shield has been very good and I hope that continues. When I have an issue with a contractor, I give the company a call and they would get me another contractor right away. They'd have someone else come out right away. When our air conditioner went out a year or so ago, somebody came quickly to fix it. I was very thankful for that because Texas summers are very hot. Unfortunately we had to pay more than $300 additional fee. American Home Shield covers $10 per pound and I don't think other home warranty companies cover more than that.

It's all been good ever since I've had AHS. I've had them for quite a few years and wherever I've lived, I've had good experience with them. The last time they came out was to fix the air conditioner. When filing that claim, I first tried calling on the phone. I couldn't get through so I went online. They came back to me right away and gave me the name of the service company. I waited a couple of hours and then called the company to see if they got a work order, and they did. The company rep then came out the next day to fix the AC. He was very thorough, clean, and personable. The AC has been working fine since the repair.

So far, American Home Shield has answered every call that I've made to them. My experience submitting a claim has been very easy. I've gone online to get help and I haven't had any problems with that. So far I've had technicians come twice, for the refrigerator then for my garage door opener. With the garage door opener, it was not working, and all the technician did was pull the handle, and it worked again. The problem is if it does it again, I am too old to get up there and pull that lever again. So I'm not sure whether he was able to solve my problem or not, but I haven't had any bad experience with AHS.

There was some kind of pumping inside our air conditioner that wasn't treating the water right, and the water was dripping on the floor. I filed a claim on it online with AHS and I had no problems on that front. We had trouble getting the technician out here at first, however. He eventually came out and told us what was wrong, but then it took him forever to come back again. Other than that, he fixed it fine - it's working great now. My last claim with them was for my kitchen faucet and the contractor they sent out was able to repair it.

AHS has been great. They've been polite, helpful and everything you can think of. The only problem that I had was when I called last time when my washing machine gave out. The guy that came out to fix it said, "I'm going to fix it but it's going to run about $2300." He said they'll replace it and that it was the smart thing to do so they agreed. They had called me one day, told me this is what they do and he was really nice too. He said that they would call me and let me know when one was coming and it wouldn't be long. But they called when I was out in the yard, and I'm not one of these people who have my phone glued to my ear. So they left a message to call back and I did. Here's the problem: I called them and had to start from point zero. The person that I'm talking to can't help me so she transferred me. But other than that, they'd been very courteous every time I call.

I am a tenant of a house in Loveland, Ohio. The dishwasher broke 8 weeks ago and my landlord has a contract with American Home Shield, so she started the process to replace the dishwasher. I had to go through 100+ phone calls for 1) A professional adviser to approve the replacements, 2) an order to be placed with AHS, 3) a shipping company to receive the appliance from GE, 4) the shipping company to deliver the appliance, 5) the installation company, 6) a technician who told me this is the cheapest dishwasher in the market and apartment rated and can not be installed in a house and returned it, 7) all the process from scratch and at the end, notice that AHS will only provide this specific cheap type. And all of this had to be done through AHS, with long wait times of their customer service. And now we just passed 8 weeks and I still do not have that same cheap dishwasher installed!!!

I had some drawbacks in submitting claims with AHS. I know in the fineprints what they are only obligated to. If you read it you can figure out pretty quickly that they're not gonna pay for the basic. But overall, they all did what they all said they were gonna do as long as they buy into all the fineprint that seemed like it was pretty much what they were obligated to do.
For example, a microwave had gone out and it had just a basic little Frigidaire stainless steel package. It wasn't expensive, but they were gonna replace it with a basic white and I couldn't accept that so I had to take the payout and I just went ahead and bought a new small one and didn't catch the sale price. They explained to me that I have to buy just regular-price. That won't work for me, because I don't want to put a white microwave in a hole where there is a stainless oven and refrigerator. That was a bad deal because I had to take whatever they allowed, it would've cost me twice than how much I spent on it, and then I had to go out in traffic and train and get the stainless microwave.
We also had a disposal that went out and they also allowed for a basic disposal. I put one of the high-end Evolution disposals and we wound up doing that but I paid the difference, between what they're gonna allow ($75 or $80) and I wound up paying about $180 for the high-end disposal, which was all right. It's just the difference. But on the microwave, I wound up just taking a payout because I couldn't get anybody to work that. For the disposal I was able to get somebody to just let me pay the difference. I also had a commode claim and they were able to work that out where they all paid for a real basic commode; It's $100. then co-sale for about $180 so I wound up paying the difference.
