We filed our recent claim with AHS for our air conditioner. It was taken care of very quickly. They had a gentleman work on our air conditioner and got it started right back up. The gentleman was very good, personable, and efficient. We had two different contractors come out and both were very professional. The unit seems to be working well. Same with the water heater. Everything came out okay. I would recommend American Home Shield. They were very efficient the last trip.

I submitted a claim online for my washing machine problem and got a phone call a day later. The company that was going to service me was Sears. I've got a stackable washer/dryer, and the washer stopped working. They asked for the serial number and I said I cant access it because it's in a closet. They said okay but nothing happened. Then I got a call again about two days later asking me the same question and I gave the same answer then never heard from them again. I had to go out of town for a week so instead of calling them back and trying to resolve it, because it takes a couple of days, I decided I'd call them when I get back. I got back yesterday and I've not retried to call them so it hasn't been resolved. Other than that, I've had other claims like the air conditioning, plumbing and electrical that have been fine.

I've used American Home Shield several times, but there was one time when I didn't like the way things were handled. But even then, the actual work was done well. Every time I used them, other than that one time, they gave a very quick response and they do what they say they were going to. It brings peace of mind to know that if something breaks, all you have to do is call them and it gets fixed for a set price. Overall, AHS has been excellent.

When I submitted a claim for my water heater, the first AHS rep that helped me could not find anybody that can take care of the problem right away. Even though I said that my room is flooded, the vendor that they sent me could not be in my house right away. I have to wait for a couple of days. Since the water damages were getting more, I called back the customer service and finally got another rep who was able to help me find someone that can go in my house right away. The second rep said that they were going to cancel the appointment with the first vendor and I didn't have to do anything. However, they ended up not cancelling the appointment with the first vendor. So, two vendors showed up in my house and both of them charged me $75. The first vendor claimed that nothing was cancelled on their end. Despite that, I still like AHS and I'd recommend them.

When I submit my claims, I usually call American Home Shield and they charge me $100 even though they didn't touch anything, which isn't fair. I pay it but I think it's not right because I have full contracts with them on four different units - a house in California, and a house and two condos here. I love AHS but I have two more complaints in addition to this. One thing is it's impossible to talk to a human being, everything is either automated or you have to wait for half an hour to talk to someone. I had questions about the billing and I had to wait for twenty minutes for somebody to get on the phone.
Another thing is even though I'm on automated pay, sometimes they keep on billing me and tell me "You owe money, otherwise your service will be cancelled." I had to get on the phone and tell them, "I'm on automatic credit card payment, why are you sending me these bills?" Although they apologize for it, it's not acceptable for a big company like American Home Shield. I monitor everything online I see everything has been paid correctly every time. I have the full year registered. I check my credit card almost everyday and I see whatever they charge have been processed. If they can rectify these, it would be great.
Other than these things, I had a good experience with them on a plumbing issue I had before. They came and tried to take care of it but they were not able to fix it. I had to call them again, they came back and fixed it. My most recent claim was last August. I was out of town and there was water in front of the utility to all of the air-conditioning units when I came back in August. I thought it was leaking from the air-conditioner so I called American Home Shield. The repairman came but told me it's not that. Based on my overall experience, I'd recommend them.

Submitting a claim was fairly simple. I did it with the phone buttons, and didn't have to speak to anybody. I had to cancel my latest claim with AHS because I got the air conditioning fixed with another vendor. It was during the Labor Day weekend. It went out Saturday and I didn't want to wait until Wednesday to have it fixed.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years and I always have good experience with them. Recently, my bank account had been compromised and it stated that I hadn’t paid, but I was able to straighten it out with both the bank and American Home Shield’s rep that I talked with. I have been with American Home Shield for almost 30 years and I wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world. My most recent claim was a central air problem and it happened last week. I called, then a local vendor called me back and showed up the next day. An hour later, it was all done. Every time I've called American Home Shield, everything has gone perfectly smooth and fast. It's been great. I've recommended them to several friends who I care for and those who have joined us at AHS have been more than happy with them.

I recently submitted a claim for my garage door with American Home Shield and they were really good. The contractors they were suggesting to call us called right away, and I explained to them what was wrong. They diagnosed the problem over the phone, and explained that they’d verify it after. However it’s not covered and I’d be the one responsible to pay for it, and they explained to me the parts that were covered and the ones that were not.
When they arrived, they were very professional, quick to respond, and did everything. I’ve never had to question what they think, or worry that they’re trying to rip me off. True enough the spring wasn’t covered which is no big deal. I paid for it, and everything was fine. They also came out a couple of times for my AC and fixed it. It’s been great every time, and I’ve never had to call back and say that they didn’t do it right the first time. I've been very satisfied with AHS. I keep renewing the warranty every year, and I plan to do so again.

The claim submission process has been okay. Most of them have gone pretty good but I've had 1 or 2 bad experiences with plumbing. A couple companies didn't meet up, like the last claim with the bathroom. Someone came in to change the hardware out, and now I have the bathroom shut back down because we're still having issues where the toilet continuously runs, and now my water is a hundred dollars. They pulled out the hardware out of there. I need to call them to have them come back out, and I need to find out what's the policy.
The problem with American Home Shield is that when it's time to do the repair work, they don't replace it with the quality that we had in there. They buy the basic minimum, and some of the service techs have verbalized that. Like when they replaced the faucet on the sink in the kitchen because it was leaking, the tech was like "Well, sir, we're just gonna go and buy the cheapest one we're gonna find."

Let me preface this post with stating that I have never before posted a negative review of a company on any social media outlet or public forum before. Having said that let me explain the absolute worst experience I have ever received with American Home Shield. We are new homeowners and asked that the sellers purchase a home warranty because many of the units of the home were of significant age. Upon purchasing the new home the inspection company notated that the AC unit was 20 years old and these units tend to have issues after that length of time. They recommended we ask for a home warranty to help cover any pre-existing conditions or the various amounts of issues that occur as these units age. Well, just as many of you may expect, the AC unit began making loud noises and our house was not cooling within only days of occupying the home.
After filing a claim with American Home Shield, my wife spent many days in the home in 90+ degree heat sweating and listening to the booming noise of our AC unit (not to mention the neighbors who we had just met also had to endure this). American Home Shield Upon sent out a technician from Eagle Air that said the blade and motor (that are 20 years old) needed replacement. No reason of the cause was given to my wife at the time of diagnosis other than that he would "need to contact the warranty company". 2 days later we received a call from Michael at American home shield who had perhaps the worst customer service skills I have ever encountered (I've worked in the retail industry for 8 years at a senior leadership level and never would this type of sarcasm and rudeness be tolerated at our company).
Michael proceeded to tell me that this is not normal wear and tear and that they would not cover the repair despite the fact that we had just moved in and this was clearly a pre-existing condition. Trying to remain professional despite his terrible attitude I read back to him a few excerpts from his company's website... American Home Shield claims "their real estate plans protect your house so you can focus on making it your home by gaining confidence and comfort knowing that your hard earned investment is covered by an industry leader... and that consumers should stress about potential undetectable pre-existing conditions (like lack of maintenance and mismatched systems. They're covered". Well, they are not covered in case you were wondering.
Not only was Michael's Customer Service the absolute worst I ever experienced, but the 3rd party contractors American Home Shield does business with seem to be incentivized to refuse claims. I say this because after spending 3 hours on the phone during my work day with American Home Shield I decided to call Eagle Air to understand their diagnosis. Upon speaking to their staff I received a different diagnosis than what American Home Shield said they received from the technician. American Home Shield said that the blade on the machine was bent and that was not normal wear and tear (once again, we've been in the house 6 days at this point and no major weather had come through nor was there any objects other than leaves in the bottom of the unit that I could see with a flashlight).
Eagle Air told me this was not what they communicated to American Home Shield but instead that they said the fan was "off balance" and not "bent". Knowing some folks in HVAC I then took the time to contact them and they came over within an hour to take a look at the unit. Upon looking at the unit they stated they cannot believe that they diagnosed the issues as a fan blade being bent or off balance. The real issue is the shaft in the AC unit is violently moving because the pre-existing wear and tear on the bearings is so badly worn. They stated this was blatantly obvious and that there is no reason why a professional HVAC company could miss that (even though there was no mention of worn bearings from American Home Shield or from Eagle Air.
So not only is this appear to be normal wear and tear for an older unit, but it is also a pre-existing condition. Both of which American Home Shield tells the public they provide home buyers "confidence and comfort" knowing they cover these scenarios. Needless to say, it was absolutely a horrific experience that has yet to be resolved, and as a consumer I have completely lost faith in this company's credibility, standards, and any values that portray to be important to them. I do not recommend doing business with this company unless you have a flexible schedule that allows you to spend countless hours on the phone with them jumping through hoops and arguing semantics of their coverages, you have an extremely high level of patience to speak with unprofessional staff members that handle their claims, that you can accept their 3rd party technicians are not competent in their diagnosis.

My tenant complained of a plumbing stoppage last April 2015. I called AHS and it sent us a plumber to look into the problem. Plumber told us that AHS do not cover such stoppage repair. AHS do not have customer service to follow up on the status of service repair calls therefore I paid the plumber his full service fee in the understanding that AHS will not bind us to the $100 trade service fee. I tried to dispute this with their customer service unfortunately the matter cannot be resolved unless I pay the $100 trade service fee for the stoppage.
I paid the $100 fee and called to cancel the contract since I am not happy with the way AHS handled their business. I was put on hold for more than an hour and never get a response back from the company. It seems like I am forced to pay our monthly fee even though I am unhappy with their service. The cost of repairs never even came close to what we paid and they do not cover most of the cost of old freon (which they state, just beware). The A/C unit in our rental house went out, of course over a weekend. The company came out on a Monday and fixed it. No problem there, until the unit went out a month later on a Thursday. Even though it was a repeat problem they had two business days to respond, which they took and scheduled a Monday visit. Since it was a rental house we told them we would have to meet them at the house, they said that was fine and they would call 30 minutes prior. I got there within 20 and waited an hour. When I called they told me the technician had already been out and left since I wasn't there. No one called to say "You are not here" before leaving.
We were told by the company that they were not sure when the technician could come back out and if we weren't happy they would be happy to cancel the service call. I waited 3 hours. American Home Shield was no help and insisted we stay with the company. We cancelled afterward. A month later the unit went out again. We had our own guy fix it within 12 hours. On top of that it took three calls (total wait time over 25 minutes per call) and one extra payment to get our policy cancelled. They were suppose to call us twice and never did. The third call they told me the cancellation was never processed.

When my garage door had messed up, American Home Shield sent a guy and fixed it quickly. They were also able to fix my garbage disposal and the water dispenser on my refrigerator. Everything else has been pretty good service until I had a problem with my water softening system. It’s been the worst that I've ever had with them and it’s still ongoing. They sent a guy who looked at it. I paid him the $75. He told me he’d be contacting me but I never heard from him. So I called American Home Shield and they said that they would try to get in touch with the guy. They never called me back too.
Another week went by and I called them again. They informed me that according to their notes in the computer, the guy was still waiting to hear from RainSoft which is the manufacturer for my water softening system. They said they'll call me when they already have an update from their contractor. Again, they never called me back so I called them once more later on that week.
They're sending now another company and they're scheduled to come this Thursday. We’re going on three weeks now. We’ll see what happens then. I don’t know how long that process will take if they have to order parts. I've been going back and forth and off work trying to wait on folks. I still got water leaking in my garage out of the water softener system. I sweep it out everyday because water doesn't disappear very quickly. I think American Home Shield needs to screen or track the contractors a little bit better.

I opened a service request on 5/1/2015 for my cooking stove which stopped working and it was easy to open the service request over the phone. That was just my 1st call with many more to come. Who knew? AHS sent first vendor after few days and he said it can't be fixed. Now I call AHS and they said "Well, we will send another vendor - MMAB Appliances." These guys were the real issue. They came after 2 weeks and then ordered parts to replace. After 2-3 follow-up calls with vendor and AHS they finally came after another 2 weeks and said "Hmm maybe it requires one more part." They ordered again but this time they never showed up for more than a month. In the meantime AHS never even had a courtesy to check on the service status. I called them again every 2-3 days but they kept saying "We will contact vendor."
After I got frustrated, they finally gave me to their supervisor on maybe 15th call. She said she cannot solve this issue and she is sorry for this and will escalate to vendor retention dept and they will call me within 48 hours and take care of the stove. It's been more than 4 months now - the only call I received from them is for collection of their monthly cost from me, which of course I stopped paying. Please let me know if someone can help me how to get them to the consumer court.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was for a leak to an air conditioner vent. Although submitting a claim online was easy, it is not yet resolved. When the contractor came out last Thursday and took the grating off the air conditioning vent, he recommended that the aluminum housing and the pan inside be replaced. His company, Air Pro Master, would find out how much the part was then would call American Home Shield to secure the approval to replace it. I didn't hear anything from them so I called to touch base on the status. I was transferred to their customer service reps who said my file was closed out because American Home Shield denied the claim, which is impossible since the unit is a covered item.
The contractor got the claims messed up. They said that the air conditioner is in a casita, and things like cabanas and detached buildings may not be covered. The air conditioner is in an attached part of the home but in Las Vegas, they call it a casita. And now Home Shield thinks that it's in a pool cabana or an out building. The customer service rep didn't care much and got a little defensive saying their company dind't do it and that Home Shield doesn't know - I wasn't really impressed.
The rep finally called American Home Shield but it would take several hours to get something from them and get back to me. I'm still waiting if my claim, sitting here with a broken unit, and I can't run my air conditioner. It's in a bedroom and a bathroom so nobody can be in them because even though it's raining, its still hot there. I'm not happy with my experience and AHS is uncaring and impersonal.

American Home Shield is a great company until you actually need to use their service. I have had them for almost 3 years and the first 2 years I did not have a service call. Unfortunately this year I had a leak in my kitchen ceiling and it took 2 weeks and 15 hours work of phone calls and 3 contractors to resolve issue. I still had to come out the pocket $300.00 to fix issue. I was not please at all and some of contractors they use for plumbing are not that great at all! They told me one things and then tell AHS a completely different story and AHS won't pursue the issue any further. It appears the contractors and AHS work together in coming up with a story on parts that the consumer has to pay for and not part of the covered part in contract.
The final straw that did it for us was our water heater issue. There was a knocking noise coming from our water heater immediately after the technician. I contacted the technician. He stated it was probably due to house creep. He stated sometimes houses just make noise. Me and my spouse was dumbfounded because we never had a noise like this before. We paid to have a independent plumbing come out and do a water heater inspection and flush. This technician stated the noise was definitely coming from the water heater due to sediment build up and being that the water heater was almost 15 years old it was due for replacement. He also stated that the anode rod was bad and if I wanted to replace that I could for now until I could afford to replace the whole unit.
So I called AHS to let them know my findings and they sent their original tech back out here and I told them what we were told by the other company and he basically stated that we would need to get a new water heater due sediment buildup and that eventually I will have very limited water due to sediment issue if not replaced. He stated he would contact AHS and let them know his findings for replacement.
I called AHS the next business day and was advised that the technician stated there was nothing wrong with my water heater and it was working normally. They also advised me there was nothing else they could do if the technician stated nothing was wrong with water heater. So the technician told us one thing and AHS something totally different. So we are going to have to end up replacing the water heater out of pocket. Goodbye AHS, what a scam company! They do not replace water heaters and their technicians do not know how to fix anything!

Initially called for service on 8/26/15 for a leaky fridge. It took 7 days to actually have someone come out and attempt to fix the problem. On 9/4/15 we placed a second call to AHS for the same problem that its vendor did not correctly fix. The fridge is still leaking. We have left several messages for Christian Appliance to call us in hope of rescheduling a visit to permanently fix the problem. Since they did not respond, I called AHS again today 9/9/15. The customer service rep told me that she called Christian Appliance and that they would be calling me today to schedule a repair visit to my home. I then immediately called Christian Appliance after hanging up with AHS and they told me that they told AHS they would not be able to come out until Monday 9/14.
So what happened to the 24-hour service turnaround time as stated in my contract? This is false advertising and AHS is failing to accomplish its contractual responsibilities to its customers. Due to the terrible customer service and terrible vendor partners I will not be recommending this company to anyone else, rather the opposite, informing everyone to stay away. The 24-hour window turns into a 7-day process, consistently. As soon as my contract expires, I'm finding another home warranty company.
Updated on Sept. 23, 2015: Christian Appliance came back and identified the leak to be one of the blue cables behind the fridge that facilitates the water dispensing. They cut a 1 foot piece in the blue line that dispenses water and patched a new 1 foot cable in its place. As soon as they left, the same cable sprung another leak in another area, about a foot above the original leak. I called American Home Shield and Christian Appliance and they came back a week later (9/14/15) to fix it. Guess what they did? You guessed it, instead of replacing the blue cable which probably costs 50 cents, they patched it again. It is now 9/23, and guess what? Another leak in the bottom of the blue cable. This is becoming absurd at this point. JUST REPLACE THE BLUE CABLES IN THE BACK OF THE FRIDGE.

I am on hold right now, both cell phone AND work phone, during my conference, and my cell phone says I've been on hold for 29 minutes. UNACCEPTABLE AHS!!! I want this issue fixed ASAP. Last November our oven died, and it took AHS 2 MONTHS to replace it. I am looking into possibly getting a class-action lawsuit started against AHS for their HORRIBLE response time, inability to stay on top of their clients' issues, and length of time they fix their issues. And if anyone can do it, I can.

I called and American Home Shield told me what to do, and I went from there. Everything falls right in line. I needed something put in my air conditioning unit that they replaced because it was not pumping the water off, and they came out and did it in a day. The unit is performing like new. It’s a great service, and I’m very happy. All of the contractors American Home Shield sent to my home were good. They do what they said they’re going to do.

I am happy with American Home Shield except when I needed a compressor. AHS decided that they have to replace our compressor. They said, "we have to remove all the freon from there and then we have to put new freon." They sent a company over and they were charging me $300 for 6 lbs. of freon. I told them that I got my own jug of freon and that they can use it. They refused. I called AHS and told them about it and that I didn't want to pay for it. They said "well we cannot do anything if they are charging." I had to pay $300 from my pocket which I never liked. Plus, why should I pay 6 lbs. for $300 while a whole 30 lbs. jug is only $200?
Most of the time also they try to deny the claims. With one of my properties, I paid two years and I never called AHS for a single time and then once I called them, they denied the claim. They said that the coil inside is bad and that there is some kind of abuse there. How can there be an abuse if everything is fully covered and I don't open it, just change the filter? They also said that somebody worked it. Why would someone go in there and mess around with the coil? They denied the claim so I had to pay $1100 from my pocket to change the coil.

American Home Shield is good but there's a lot that they don't cover. According to different people and providers, they're late on their payment sometimes, and very stingy so it's hard for them to find people that are in this area that will cover, especially plumbing. I've had plumbing problems before and it took them a while to find someone who would come out. But otherwise, they're fairly good. They have saved me a lot of money on a lot of things. My air-conditioner broke down over the weekend, but the tech's going to try to get AHS to replace the whole unit because the compressor's been replaced once and he says "it's just really hard to work on this one because it is so old."

I found the breaker box to the house to find out there is a short in the electrical wires connected to that bedroom. We called AHS and the next morning someone was out to check the breaker. They quickly found the issue. It was a burnt out breaker that was causing the short. They immediately changed the breaker and everything was up and running in that bedroom. They were very nice, friendly and got right to work. I have another issue going on with this house we are working with AHS about. I informed her when I joined AHS I was told my deductible would be $55, not $75. She stated that was not accurate and a bunch of other things. I requested to speak with a Supervisor which only lead me to be placed on hold again for another 43 minutes only to be hung up on which of course was frustrating.
Immediately I placed a call right back to escalate my concern. After 33 minutes of hold time, finally I get a very nice lady who truly felt my pain. After informing her of my previous experience, she attempted to transfer me to a supervisor which was a HORRIBLE Experience. I had to explain why I wanted to speak with a Supervisor before one would approve her to transfer my call. Upon being placed on hold again to wait for a Supervisor to come to the line another 49 min pass only to be equally let down by this Supervisor as I was by the previous agent (Teah)!
The Supervisor only took a mere 45 seconds to hear my complaint to which she stated if I wanted, she could transfer me to the Cancellation Dept. I informed her I understood why her agents are rude, because they learn from their superiors and she replied just as coyly, "okay." Please if you have the time to do research, look around before you commit to this Company!!! They are not worth your time, or money!!! I hope this gets posted as they are requesting an order number, but I was not provided with an order number so they might not find my account.

It took a month before he brought it back and it worked one time and broke again. Still no word on when it will be fixed. The AC contractor caught a mistake made by the first guy who had ordered the wrong unit. A month went by they show up with the new units and the air handler was damaged during shipping, so couldn't be installed. It is going on 3 months and in some of the hottest weather and we cannot get a straight answer as to when it will be repaired.
Every time we call it is over an hour wait time and no one gives a straight answer. Each. All is a different story and still no working stove hood or AC units. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received with American Home Shield (AHS). I started having problems with my air condition unit in May of this year. Today is September 8th and it is still not fixed. This is my 8th attempt to get my unit repaired with AHS. I live in Maryland and we've had upper 90 degree temperatures almost everyday. I have made every attempt to get my complaint resolved with American Home Shield. I spoke with a manager at AHS and asked if they could send another company.
Vendor Name: M & G CLIMATE CONTROL COMPANY. The first company made the problem worst. They sent a second company out and I was told that they had to order a coil for the air condition and apparently they are still waiting for the part. This was in July 2015, 2 months after the initial service call. I was told by the manager that it was my responsibility to make sure that they were aware that the air condition had not been fixed the 2nd time around and that the service people never came back with the coil. I have made several calls to them about this issue to no avail since July 2015. I was told that my problem had to be escalated to member services division and that I would hear something back in less than a week.
That was over a month ago, in August, that I was told this. The 1st service company came out in May. The service person got his AC's company salesperson on the line while he was at my house so that I could make an appointment with him to come and talk with me about buying a new unit. The salesperson called me several times afterwards until I told him that I was still trying to resolve the repairs with AHS and was not interested in purchasing a unit at this time. AHS charged me $75.00 a piece for both service calls. They apparently cannot resolve my issue. If my unit cannot be repaired, then it needs to be replaced. I feel that I have not gotten the service that I paid for in the contract agreement. As a real estate agent, for 28 years, I have on numerous occasions recommended AHS to my clients. This is my 1st time using them myself, this year and am finding out that I have been making a huge mistake. Hide.

Since I was within the 2-month warranty period the service rep found they had overcharged the unit and they bled off one pound of Puron and told me there was no service charge of $75.
When I had a different problem and contacted AHS, I was told I owed AHS $75 and they would not process my service request until the $75 was paid. So I paid and then contacted AHS to request the refund. I was placed on hold while the service rep said she needed to do some research. After over 20 minutes I gave up. In January I set up a home warranty for a rental home. The salesman was very thorough and asked many questions about the home like whether or not we had a jetted bathtub, pool, Jacuzzi, was the Jacuzzi attached to the pool, etc. I remember him asking about the layout of the home which includes a 350sf casita/guest house. On July 7th, I called in a service request for the AC in the casita that wasn't running cold. The AC repair guy came out the next day and called me to collect the service fee and told me that the AC was fixed. Sept 1st, my tenant called to say that the AC still isn't working well. I called AHS to please reopen the file because the issue had not been resolved from July. The customer service person called the AC repair co and found that there were no notes on file. AHS reopened the file from July 7th and I appreciate AHS doing the right thing. Things went South from here.
On Friday, Sept 4th, the AC repair person was scheduled to come to the house. The representative did not show and when my tenant called to ask on the status of his arrival time, she was told that he can't do any work because a guest house isn't covered. I got a voicemail message to call AHS authorizations. I called and was on hold for over hour. When I spoke with the person I was told that the service cannot be authorized because I don't have coverage for a guest house and that I need to call sales. I called AHS sales and after another on the phone, I was told that AHS needs to pull my call from January to see if I mentioned that I had a casita/guest house. She said it could take quite a while due to the 3-day weekend.
I do recall discussing the guest house but just in case I didn't, why wouldn't that be a question that the sales person is required to ask so I can have proper coverage? I would have been and am happy to pay additional premiums to ensure I have proper coverage. I had no reason to believe that I wasn't covered. If the sales people are not required to ask, "Do you have a detached Casita or guest house?" then that's deceptive marketing and/or sloppy. Meanwhile, my tenants have an AC that isn't functioning and we are all left hanging. I will update this post when AHS makes this right!

My claim was denied for the reason that the system was not properly installed 34 years ago. I explained that according to the US government the average central air unit lasts 15 -20 years and my has lasted 34. I don't know what the rules were 34 years ago, which is older than the person who claimed the unit was not installed correctly, but I think lasting 34 years is an indication that the installation was not a problem. Not happy paying all these years and now being told that this unit would never be covered.

I showed the contractor where the problem was and he fixed it in less than five minutes. The bulk of the time was the paperwork and there was little sociable conversation, but he was very nice. Our second repair - Our central air conditioning unit kept shutting off and at times would not power on. The service tech came in and said he had fixed the wires and had the unit blowing cold. However, almost immediately after he had gone, the air stopped and would not turn back on no matter how often I tried. I called AHS and they advised me the tech would come back out. Two hot days later he did and again said it was repaired. Again, the air stopped. I called and was told two more days for the rep to come back!? Really?!
Finally, out of sheer frustration from living in an 88 degree house for nearly a week, I contacted the manufacturer of the central a/c unit and requested a repair manual. They had limited data since the unit was manufactured over 25 years ago. I then spent two days studying the unit. Once I had memorized the internal components and was confident I could at a minimum, put it back together, I began...
Two additional days later, I had repaired the a/c and installed a new digital thermostat (which the service tech had told me I couldn't do because the wiring didn't support the touch panel thermostat - that was completely untrue! It supports it just fine but you had to bridge the wires. Anyone that knows anything about HVAC repairs should have known this). Finally we were up and running. Perhaps this wasn't all AHS, but any tech that they send is a reflection on their company. They should make certain they use the best technicians they can find.
Third repair - The pool pump plastic housing had cracked due to an unusually cold winter and lots of snow. They immediately said they would not cover it because of damage due to the weather. Frankly, I had grown to hate the filter they had previously swapped out the first time that I had called them because I had figured out soon after the install that they used a sand filter and a pump that was severely under-powered for an in-ground 28000 gallon pool!
I still am not certain why they replaced our DE filter with a sand filtration system, but I'm guessing it was significantly cheaper than the DE system... Same for the pump. It needed a minimum of 2hp to filter the water properly - they installed a 1.5hp pump. It seems to me that the pool people should have known this. Anyway, I didn't feel like arguing the point any longer, so I purchased a brand new DE filter and a 2.5hp pump, read the manuals and installed then myself. Total cost for that project was $1380.00 of my own money and of course I still had that monthly payment to AHS even though they did nothing!
Fourth repair - This is the one that sealed the deal and ultimately the reason I left AHS. Our washer had broken. It wouldn't drain, spin… Nothing but noise. I called, paid the tech his $75 and he told me that the washer parts had to be specially ordered and it would take about 4-6 weeks. I replied with, "It's a GE washer. It's a basic, standard cycling washer… That's why I purchased it. Parts shouldn't take that long for the most common brand in America!" He said, "That's how long it'll be."
I called AHS. The tech gave an estimate of $297 to repair. I advised them how long we were going to have to wait. The rep was apologetic but said she couldn't do anything. Finally, after ranting for over an hour, she gave me the option of purchasing a new unit BUT they would only write the check for $297 since that is the repair estimate. So, I went to The Home Depot and found a basic "Whirlpool" washer for $488.00. Had to pay the entire purchase price myself until I could fax in the receipt and warranty information.
First they told me that they didn't receive it. I forwarded the confirmation info and resent. Again, they said they hadn't gotten all of the paperwork. Specifically the warranty card. I resent and within two weeks they had issued a check. At the end of the day, they made around $3183.00 bucks on us after I deduct the cost of the warranty services they had provided over the years. I could have saved the $2500 and simply purchased new appliances on my own. Or I could simply have done what I've been doing, read the manuals, maintain the units myself, get comfortable with electricity and fix it!
Save your money… While I understand the desire to avoid unexpected expenses, the logical and most cost effective thing you can do is stash whatever fee they charge you monthly in your savings account and forget about it ‘til you need it. You will never see your return on this monthly investment. Save your money, save your time.

My most recent claim with AHS for my air condition went well. I didn’t get what they repaired but everything was responded to and the problem was fixed. I was not home when the contractor came but he was professional and courteous as per my son who was here. They were timely and I have no complaints. Plus my unit has been working without any hiccups since the repair.

I fill out a claim through my computer and get a response back in a bit. The contractor will call and tell me that he’s got the claim and he needs to come out to fix my problem. So far, it’s worked out great. We like all of the suppliers AHS has contracted to work for them as they’ve done a great job. We appreciate what AHS does for us and the contractors they have.

American Home Shield is excellent if you can get through to a live person without having to go through their automated system which doesn't understand English half the time. It's just getting through the automated system that is a problem because it's hard to understand and it takes forever to get someone live. Once, I had a combined issue with the heating and air conditioning and the system didn't understand that stuff. But once you get to talk to someone live, they assign somebody right away and give you their phone number. Furthermore the people that they assigned call you right away 90% of the time.
However, you never get the same person with AHS when you call back. One time they had to replace something. I had to get transferred to a department that told me to measure the inside of the unit and they'll find something compatible with it. The wait to get through to that department was as long as the wait when getting through their automated system. I received a call from a guy who gave me a website to look up to see if the part they have is okay and told me to call him back. I didn't get him when I called back so I had to explain everything again to the next live person I talked to. Nevertheless, I've been with AHS for a long time and they did everything to my satisfaction, no matter what it is. We recently got a new microwave put in through them and even though our interactions with the contractor were few, they were very good. They called me, told me to let them know when the microwave was delivered, then they sent someone out to install it.

I see the value and benefits of having American Home Shield. They've saved us money since the cost of repairs would have put a nice dent in our pockets. Recently, I submitted a claim to them regarding my air conditioner. The process was okay, I had no problems with the contractor and their work's been fine. The only thing is it sometimes takes a while for the company provider that's going to do the work to respond. This is depending on the issue. But overall, it's been fine so far with AHS.

I called American Home Shield recently because our toilets were overflowing. They were sending us to a company that couldn't get here for five to six more days. It's horrific when you have toilet overflowing and somebody's not gonna come out for five or six days. So I had to call a plumber myself and pay for it out of pocket. They've had to come out three days in a row to clear the line then the toilet started bubbling again. So I called American Home Shield and they sent out a different plumber than the first one. The guys from the second plumber came out and saw nothing wrong because the other guy had cleared the line, and so they left.
However, the toilet backed up again. I called American Home Shield because it still has the third-day warranty from the time I paid them $75 to do nothing. The plumbers came and told me that there are broken pipes under the house that were hitting mud. I told them I've been telling AHS that for 2 years but the plumbers said there's nothing more they can do. They gave me an estimate for fixing the pipe but could not run the camera throughout the whole house to see if there are more broken pipes - I don't want to repair one thing and not everything. American Home Shield then said that they can email me a check for $500 or deduct the same amount off of services that would have to use one of their plumbers. I asked them to send me a check. They were supposed to get back to me in two or three days but I heard nothing, so I'm not happy.

I called American Home Shield for my dryer and their contractor came out the next day. He told me what the problem was, and said that he could fix it. He had to go to the truck to get the piece, brought it back and then he was in and out before I even had to leave for the day. It was perfect timing because I thought that they were coming later, but he came earlier than expected. I recently had a claim for a couple of plumbing items. One was for my kitchen where there was a leak underneath the cabinet and it turned out to be the faucet itself so the technician that they sent out replaced that. And then I had a problem in my shower where the water wouldn’t shut off properly and the tech just had to replace the cartridge. I also asked them to look at my hot water heater because someone had told me that it needed replacing because of corrosion. It was another company and they said "no it doesn’t, it’s fine. They’re just trying to sell you a product." So I was appreciative that he was honest with me about that, and everything working fine after the repair.
However, I encountered an issue with American Home Shield when I had a problem with my air conditioner and they said it wasn’t covered. They were trying to say it was considered routine maintenance. But it wasn’t routine maintenance because it was a place out of the way that normally wouldn’t be cleaned. But it all got straightened out.
Also, sometimes it's hard to submit a claim. I had an experience where I already put in a request for my air conditioning unit and it was never serviced. But then AHS closed the claim because they thought the company that I was dealing with was going to handle it as a routine maintenance thing. I told them, “No. I don’t know why they closed the claim.”
I called the contracted company to find out what the status was and then I called AHS back (you couldn’t go back in online and put it in another request because you just had a request recently). But what if something else breaks on it? I ended up calling several times. It is hit or miss depending on how long you’re going to get somebody on the phone and sometimes it takes an hour. But overall, the contractors that they sent out had been fine, and I'm satisfied with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has good customer service. The most recent claim we had with them was to have our air conditioning checked for the summertime for preventive maintenance. Since we've been going to the same company for as long as we've had them, we normally call the contractor. They person they sent is great and we love him. He comes out, does the job, and then he files the claim. We pay him the fee and takes care of it. We've never had any problems with it and everything is working perfectly after the repair. There was a glitch in the service two years ago, but we got that squared away and they took care of it without any additional problems. Other than that, they've always been prompt to send somebody out. The service contractors have been good so far.

We have three different policies with AHS. One is for a house that we have where our son lives in, and that wasn't a good experience. There was a problem with the air conditioner at that house and the person who came to look at it said he needed a part or something. It was over two weeks before we heard what the decision was going to be. In the meantime we then had to go out and buy window air conditioners.
We ended up not even dealing with American Home Shield. Every time we called in, American Home Shield would say, "We're waiting to hear from the contractor." We also called the contractor and they would say, "We're waiting to hear from American Home Shield", so it was back and forth between the two of them. I felt like we were in the middle of a tennis match and neither one of them was giving us a sufficient answer. All they had to do was say, "No, this isn't covered", and we would have said, "Okay, let's replace the air conditioning". We could have done that in one or two days.
We ended up having the whole unit replaced. It would have been out of pocket anyway but it was just the way that we were treated and that they didn't give us an answer. The contractor was here and sent the report and I called American Home Shield the next day and they said, "Nobody has given us a report." It was so vague. The receptionist for the company that they contracted out was very rude too. She was almost like she was playing a game with me. We had to get something done at that house because mold was starting to form already as there had been some previous flooding.
We've had AHS for a long time and we've given them a lot of business and we haven't had a lot of claims too. It's not like we have them to replace everything at no cost to us because we've had many things where it's been out of pocket for us. We have had our beach place where we had to pay out of pocket for our air conditioning there too. It's not a cover-all project or insurance and we understand that, but we expect courtesy and we expect people to be dignified and to be responsive at the very least. In this case, they weren't. Nevertheless, it is very easy submitting a claim to them and we don't have a problem with it. I either go online or call them, and I usually hear back fairly quickly about who it's assigned to within a day.

This is the worst home warranty experience I have ever had to go through. Whoever is looking for a reliable and professional home warranty, do not get mislead by American Home shield's claims about reliability, professionalism and efficiency. We had a major air conditioner problem at our house so we called and initiated a claim. The technician who contracts with American Home shield came and checked out the situation and his recommendation was to change the entire AC. The temperature at our house was 95 degrees on that day and our 1 year old boy was sick with acute respiratory viral infection. The technician said that he will send the report to the company and get this fixed within the next 24 hours. Despite our daily phone calls to the technician who was assigned this job, he never answered his phone for 3 days.
The 4th day after his visit and while our baby was struggling with our home temperatures between 85 and 98 degrees throughout the day and night, we called American Home Shield and they said that they can't reach that technician. They had not even received a report about the diagnosis 4 days later! Knowing that our home temperatures were unbearable and there was a major health risk on our baby, American Home Shield could not offer any other alternatives before a long Labor Day weekend. I requested that a manager calls me twice and she never did. I am not even mentioning that I had to wait 28 min and 32 min on the line each time I had to talk to their useless customer service representatives. They kept saying that they can't do anything and they have to stick with their "guidelines"! Despite knowing how urgent the situation is!
American Home Shield does not have an urgent backup plan for urgent situations that may happen. Please do not be mislead by their claims that they have 24/7 service. This is absolutely not true. We are now enduring unbearably hot temperatures at our house throughout Labor Day weekend despite the fact that the AC problem was identified 7 days ago! Completely unreliable and untrustworthy. We had a similar experience in the winter time about our heater and it took American Home Shield 10 days to repair the problems during the coldest days of the year. Nobody deserves that! I do not recommend anybody to pay their hardly earned money to this company that does not have any respect to its customers.

I was contacted by AHS after the plumbers left as a follow up. I shared my concerns with that rep and tried to explain the issue was within my warranty. He asked me to send a photo of the pipe in question and he would get back to me. I sent the photo and I've not heard back from him. I called AHS and spoke with ** who was very confrontational, at times speaking when I was speaking, and very argumentative (customer service rep). I asked him if I could send the photo to him and replied "no". They don't go by photos, just the word of the company. Why did the follow up rep ask me to send a photo? We said, "Well, let us research it and get our own machine", and we did.
The new machine had problems and was fixed through Maytag. The first man sent out said it needed recalibration but he didn't fix the problem. The second man was really experienced and he knew the machine inside and out. He turned it upside down and figured out what the problem was and repaired it. It was very satisfactory. I have this service for more than 3 years. Paid close to $2K over this time. I had my first appliance (washer) breakdown happen last month. AHS is an hand-off service. The money paid to them is a waste. We had to pay $75 for every technician visit. They contracted the work out to a local company that took more than a month and 4 visits and still did not get my washer fixed. Let's be honest guys - a washer costs around $400 to $800 depending on the brand and features. I had stay home for a total of 8 hours over 4 visits and spend $150+ as technician visiting fee. So a total of worth of $500 spent (Time Value for my stay home and deductible) so far without a working solution to my problem.
This insurance is farce. They gouge money upfront and don't deliver on promise. I totally will NOT recommend this service to anyone. I need to keep this until I get value for my investment. Kind of stuck in this. That is what they expect from you.

Complaint against American Home Shield for poor business practices and non-compliance with their policies or advertisements. I have a policy for my major appliances (AC, Water heater, ductwork and such) which unfortunately I was talked into a policy with the purchase of my house ILO monies toward the repair/replacement of the AC units. I have had three service calls over the last year with the last service call being for the AC units not cooling my house.
After it taking a week to get a repairman to show up and look at the units, I was told he could not repair the units. Over the next week I found out that they did not know why the AC wasn't cooling the house and that they were not going to repair or replace the units. I hired my own repair company, they inspected the unit, said though the units would run, the equipment was just plain worn out and not able to cool and needed to be replace. The past owners stated that they never had a problem with the units cooling the house and that their electric bill never got above $200 to $250 per month.
AHS advertises that if they cannot fix an appliance (AC units are considered an appliance), they will replace it. This is clearly not the case and in talking with the repair service company (AHS approved Company) it was stated that AHS will not replace AC equipment and will only approve to do only band aid fixes. Should your equipment not be heating or cooling, AHS will state that the equipment is running (though not heating or cooling), and there is nothing more that they will do. This is what happened with me.
I'm rather upset over AHS's poor performance and the fact that I had to go to great lengths to deal with them to finally reach a verdict that they weren't going to do anything. I have one more year left on the policy and have asked to cancel the policy to which they offered me $72 for a policy that cost $900 for two years. While I understand that there are costs on their part, I feel that out of $450/yearly cost there should be more monies to be returned to me. Ultimately I would like for AHS to reimburse me for the replacement of the AC units (to the part of what they should be responsible for, I did upgrade over the original). To save aggravation I'd settle for a reasonable settlement in refunding the balance of the policy. $72 of a $450/year policy is insulting.

American Home Shield has been very good and I've been very satisfied for the most part. Somebody ask me about the company and I did recommend them. I had a recent claim called in for my air conditioning unit. I got a company from AHS, I called that company, we scheduled the service visit, and they came out. Unfortunately, it took probably a little longer than it should have because the AC unit had multiple problems. The repairmen didn't recognize that at first, but I didn't have an issue with that too much since they found the part that was bad and fixed it. However, they assured me that everything was okay but then the next day, I had the same problem. After they fixed it the second time, it has been great - sometimes you just have to fix one before you can find out the next problem. So I think they did a good job.
The only issue that I have had is sometimes they want to fix just the immediate problem, and it doesn't necessarily fix the overall problem. I had an air conditioning unit issue in my other home and for the first time, they put refrigerant in it (which they only pay $10 of its $60 cost) and then it was broken a month later. So they had to come back out because it had a leak. They only again repaired the minimum part to fix the leak. The unit is fixed right now but that's only gonna last so long since the unit that it's attached to is old - that needs to be fixed as well. Eventually I'm going to have to call back again to get that addressed (hopefully not).

American Home Shield is great. It has helped us out a lot whenever we have to get something repaired and don’t have the money to do it. We only have to pay that little service fee and somebody comes out and takes care of the problem. The last thing we have repaired was the hot water heater. When I called in to submit the claims, I spoke to someone who was very cordial. The rep asked me if I wanted them to go through the process for me but I’ve used AHS enough that I didn’t need them to do that. They asked me what appliance needed to be repaired. Then told me who would be coming out to repair it, and that they would be calling me. They gave me a time frame as to when they would call. The person from the repair company called me a few hours later. And from then, even the people that were repairing the hot water heater were really cordial.
When the repair guys came to the door, they tell you what company they’re with and that they have a service request. They’re really professional when they come to the door, and you don’t have to guess who they are. And then the tech came in and did the repairs in little or no time - it didn’t take him that long. Before they started, they told me that there was a $75 fee which I knew already. But they did the work and then they explained what they had done and gave me a work order. And the hot water heater has been working very good since then.
When I call in for a repair, AHS usually tells me that someone's going to contact me within 12 or 24 hours. But once I hung up, it was maybe half an hour, the company calls me. That was impressive. They called right away, set up an appointment, and came when they said that they were coming. AHS has been professional and reliable, and I have recommended them to other people already.

When they called, they said that it was not covered by American Home Shield, period, end of discussion, nothing.
This is the third claim I've made and the two things that I called about weren't covered. I called about my garage door, the little buttons in the car that you can put the garage door up and down, and the keypad in the garage door at the south side of our garage. Only the buttons were covered.. When I spoke to the person I signed up when she sold me this, she didn't say 90% of the things aren't covered.
I told them on the phone that I was unhappy and would drop this and stop paying for it. She told me I can do that now and gave me a number. I called the number immediately but I was on hold for at least 20 minutes. I was so angry I was on hold for long, I hung up. I'm very upset about it. They sold me something that when you call in, is not covered. When they sold me the plan, one cover was the garage door but the spring and the key entry weren't covered which doesn't make sense as that's how to get in and out of the garage. I described it and said that I was positive I needed a new garbage disposal. She then said she'd send somebody to see if that was the problem and somebody did come out the next day. He was a pleasant guy who knew what he was doing and he fixed it properly on the spot. We haven't had any problems since then. The people from American Home Shield were very helpful. My experience couldn't have gone any better than it did and I was pleased with the service.

The only issue I had was the amount of time it took between making the appointment and the contractors showing up. Thank God, it wasn't an emergency.

We turned to American Home Shield when we needed to repair my air conditioner. I called in my claim and the representative I spoke to was excellent. This was Friday and at first, she gave me a contractor that couldn't come out til Monday. I called them back coz this is Bakersfield and it was supposed to be over 100 degrees. She gave me another number and that contractor came out Saturday morning, diagnosed it, had the parts and did an excellent job. And since then, it's worked perfect. I have nothing but the highest praise for American Home Shield. I've recommended them to friends who got it. They're exceptional! I've used the word a bunch of times with them, and it's not a word I use often.

AHS uses HVAC vendors that do not do the job they charge for. And they really don't care. Then AHS refuses requests to send a different HVAC company out unless you pay them another trip fee. Since this review is not about the HVAC company that came out and stated they did work (that will be another post), even providing a receipt of the non-work they did, it is about AHS' lack of quality control of their vendors and overall lack of care about their customers they charge a nice monthly fee. Just today, I had to request AHS open an investigation and prove the HVAC vendor actually did replace the evap coil like they said they did.
Look at the pictures attached, and tell me if this HVAC vendor replaced the drip pan and associated pvc connections. And I am to believe these people actually replaced the evap coil inside the unit that no one can see? What I did see, while I happened to be outside at the time, is one of the workers putting, what appeared to be, a brand new coil in the back of his work truck. If I allowed this HVAC vendor back out, it would be the 4th time this vendor has been back out to the house. The conduit from the outside is still freezing up like a glacier and inside it is not blowing cold. And these guys replaced my evap coil? Yeah, right. One of the times they came out, they pulled the filter out of the unit in attic, and said that was the issue. The filter was new, and one of the cheap ones that lets air through easily! Again, AHS doesn't really care. They are pushing paper - there is no customer service.
Bottom line, outside of HVAC, AHS may have good vendors, but I guarantee AHS is making money on you on any HVAC repair; and I'm sure that means hiring vendors that can do the repairs (or say they did repairs) at the absolute minimum price, in turn, charging the consumer considerable out of pocket costs. At no point was I ever contacted by AHS after placing service recalls to see if everything was OK. They and their policies, simply don't give a damn. Take a good look at the photos. When you do, think of American Home Shield (AHS) quality!

However when the contractors came out, everything went perfectly and the guy was super fast, efficient, and I had no problems.

For the past three years, every year the same contractor (Heating and Cooling Experts) comes out to our house for a $75 service fee to tell us that our A/C does not work due to low R-22 and wants to refill 5+ pounds for over $75 per pound. AHS only covers $10 per pound of R-22, so this is where HVAC companies can make up their money off of customers. After 3-4 service calls over the years, I demanded a new HVAC company come out to look at our system -- especially after we were without A/C for over 5 days before Heating and Cooling Experts could come out in 90+ heat. The next company to come out (LA General Contractors) missed 2 appointments, showed up and diagnosed 2 service valves as leaking last week.
LA General Contractors told me that they would have to come back this week to fix the valves and that he would refill our R-22 without charge during the process. Our R-22 has completely leaked out every day this week and have had to call to try to get him to come out every day this week, but has not done a system check for leaks or replaced the valves. Now it is Labor Day weekend and our house is 101 degrees... and we have an infant! After over 3-4 hours on hold with AHS and countless calls/complaints, we finally have ANOTHER contractor that is supposed to come out, but they do not have availability tomorrow, nor have they even received the work order request from AHS. Until they get the work order request they cannot even get us on their schedule.
Bottom Line: AHS will not fix your A/C, they will refill R-22 countless times and make you pay for it. They do not care about the health and safety of the children in your home. You will be on hold for at least 30 minutes each time you want to talk to someone and receive no resolution to your issue. We have spent $700+ on a home warranty, $75 per service call, and over $200 in freon. We'd have been better off spending the money on a new unit. Avoid this company. They are a scam! THEY MAY FIX YOUR A/C UNIT, BUT IT WILL TAKE SO LONG THAT IT IS NOT WORTH IT. 15 days no A/C this summer in 90+ heat.

American Home Shield replaced the outside air conditioning unit. Submitting the claim wasn't difficult, although we've had confusion on getting everything handled. I didn't have any problem with the contractor they sent. He came in on call and examined everything and made some phone calls. When the needed parts came in, he called me and came out the next day to put these parts in. Once he got the parts, the installation took only a couple of hours. My AC has been working fine since the repair. The American Home Shield guys have always done what they said they would do and they've always honored their responsibility to the contract that we've had. I recommended them to a couple of people in town and at least one of them contracted with AHS because of my experience.

I recently had a service call done on my dryer and I’m waiting to be reimbursed by American Home Shield. I wasn’t too happy because normally, everything goes fine but when I called in, they couldn’t locate anyone to come, and so I asked if I could get someone to come on my own. I was then told I had to wait 48 hours but the rep had sent a dispatch in and they would be contacting me the next day. I didn’t hear anything the next day so I called back again. I was told again I got another 24 hours to wait, so I called and then they told me they couldn’t locate anyone and everybody was on hold. I got the permission to call my own contractor, but then 5 days had passed, and so it took me a week. I called one on Thursday afternoon, late after I talked to the representative at American Home Shield. They were booked for Friday but they did come on Monday, and it was great because I used Melton’s out in Pryor, and they are always good.
The contractor told me when he got here that they have a contract with AHS. I had asked American Home Shield's customer service rep if Melton’s Appliance Repair in Pryor, Oklahoma had a contract with them and I was told no, and that’s the only problem I had. I got my unit fixed and then I sent in the bill the next morning, but I haven’t heard anything back. It seems that AHS are getting low on trying to get people in. I know one of their reps told me that they put themselves on hold when they get a lot of calls, but I thought that if I had any more problems with an appliance before I call in to AHS, I will call and ask Melton’s if they’re on hold or ask if they would come to my house because we used them years before we had American Home Shield. That way, I can tell the representative, "You may show I’m on hold, but Melton’s said they would take care of us if I call them."

Horrible company! ZERO STAR. STAY AWAY! I have a rental property 6 hours away in Florida and 2 months ago the tenant called me that the AC stopped working and was leaking water from the bottom. When I called AHS it took me 40+ minutes to speak to somebody who does not even know the basics of home systems. I knew it was a clogged drain line. They referred my order to a local AC contractor that contacted me to go the next day. I was not present so I did not check the quality of the repair which is as basic as blowing air to the line and running a cleaning rod at the termination. Two months later the line clogs again, the AC is down and we are in the middle of the summer.
I called AHS and again waited over 40 min to speak to somebody. They referred the service to a company in Virginia that contacted me a few hours later to tell me that they can't send anyone until 5 days later because it is Friday and the day of the service call and weekend does not count for the 48 hours that AHS promises. After multiple calls they still insist that Tuesday afternoon of the following week is the earliest they can come. The temperature in the house is reaching 100, the tenant has small children and she is saying that she is going to a hotel if I do not fix the problem. I ended up hiring a local contractor that sent a technician in less than 2 hours and fixed the problem.
AHS now refuses to pay even after I pay the $75 incident fee. They claim that I violated the contract because only them can authorize work but they do not mention that they violated the contract twice: The first contractor that they sent 2 months ago did not provide the right service otherwise the drain line would have clogged so quickly. They failed to fix the problem in a reasonable time (5 days without AC in the summer heat in Florida is even dangerous for my tenants' health). Again: anyone considering this company: STAY AWAY FROM THEM.

However, on the last claim we filed, we had Sears to repair the refrigerator and it took 3 weeks from the time we called and got a hold of Sears until the time it was fixed, which is absolutely unacceptable. Run away from this American Home Shield, AHS. They claim to fix anything under your roof. I bought the higher plan (System option) for about $42.83 a month (from 2011 to Aug 2015) for many years. We got two breakdowns, the gas burner (two out of four burners on the Thermador Range) and the other was the garage door opener. On both occasions, we had to spend $75 in home estimate. On both claims, AHS denied our claim requests because our broken stuff is the exception listed found on the contract fine print. We had to spend the repair cost ON TOP of the $75.00 in house estimate. Right after the two repair items, our air conditioning broke down during the sweltering heat. We decided to forget about AHS, which will find every way under their fine print of their contract to deny our service.
RUN AWAY FROM AHS. We are a long-term customer. None of our request was ever fixed by them. It's very upset knowing AHS will turn down the service request yet we still have to pay the $75 in home estimate. We have been a customer for 4 years. We thought buying AHS service will make us worry less, but we were so upset at their refusal to break we have ulcers instead. I'm now on the phone to cancel the AHS service, and was on hold for 25 minutes, and counting... After talking to someone finally, when they found out I cancel the plan, they asked me to be on hold again so I can be transferred to the Retention Department! My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for an air conditioning issue. Submitting a claim was really good as well as the contractor that they sent. It's rare that I find that when things are scheduled, people come out in the timeframe that they commit to. I have found a lot of times that vendors for AHS put customers as a low priority. If they get other calls you'll end up waiting until 8 o'clock at night -- if they come at all. But this guy came out and fixed it on the first try and no problems after that.
I have recommended American Home Shield to people, but not every experience is great and a lot of times it's the vendor. The most frustrating part of it is when somebody comes out and say, "Okay, we've got to order a part, we've got to do it through American Home Shield." There ends up being a lot of cooks in the kitchen trying to get one simple thing done for me, that if I had called the vendor on my own, they'd be able to resource the parts relatively quick. Sometimes having to resource parts through AHS adds one more layer of things that you have to do and sometimes, that had me waiting as long as a month to get something fixed. But overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield so I'm sticking with them.

I had a recent claim with AHS as regards our plumbing. I called it in and very easily filed the claim via their automated phone system. The technicians they sent out were very professional and our plumbing has been fine since the service visit. AHS is awesome and I promote this excellent program all the time.

I submitted claims online to American Home Shield because of my stove and my refrigerator. It was an easy process and they sent out contractors from Sears. They came on time, were very knowledgeable, found out what the problems were, and fixed them.

Unfortunately, we are still in the middle of it because no one’s been able to fix it yet. But it’s in process and everybody’s doing everything they can in getting parts.

When I first purchased a home warranty from AHS, I was a bit apprehensive about how it would work - not knowing if I was wasting my money or if it was money well spent. But after having called for repair for 2 different problems, I am more than ready to recommend homeowners purchasing warranties. The contractors in both instances were very polite, professional and knew what they were doing. They arrived in the arranged time frame and each of them took the time to make sure there were no additional problems with the units they were working on. And never leaving before making sure everything worked properly. I am someone who asks questions about everything and the contractors enjoyed teaching me about what they were doing. I was very pleased with all the work that was done.

My experience with American Home Shield has been pretty good. I had a couple of air conditioners worked on that started in June 26 but it's been a lot of trouble with the first contractor I had. He was a big deal. We finally got rid of him and got somebody else who just finished the work today. Which was almost two months later. But things happen and I'm not going to blame anybody.
I got the right phone number however I had some issues for a little while because I'd call somebody and got a hold of somebody in Georgia and then I'd get another representative from Tennessee who was supposed to call me back but never did so I called the next day and got ahold of the one in Georgia. We played phone tag for a long time then I got a phone number from the new contractor and he gave me a phone number for the escalation department and that really helped.

Submitting an online claim with AHS was very simple. I had running water in the toilets and had no hot water coming from one of my shower head. The contractor was good and prompt. Since the repair, things have been better than before. It was a very good experience and I'm very satisfied.

I called in to submit a claim with AHS for my hot water tank and the rep I spoke to was very cordial - we had very good service from him. When their contractor came, he said that the hot water tank was fine and it just needed to be cleaned which he did. He flushed it for us, but we purchased a new water softener from him which was fine since we wanted to do that too. However, we asked him about replacing our kitchen sink and he quoted us a price of $650 which did not include the sink and I was upset by that because that is very out of line cost-wise. Other than that, we've been very pleased with any other service calls that we've had.

The water heater went out so I called AHS to submit a claim. I left a message for them to call back, but they were calling my home phone number which I had already told them that I didn't have anymore. When they called my old telephone number, of course somebody answered saying that they didn't call them and they don't need anything. I waited for three days and I called back and I told AHS that they need to call the contractor and give them the right number.
As far as the people that worked on the stuff, they were good, but I never had anybody harass me so much as their billing person. He was telling me stuff and I didn't know what he was asking money for. Different things were charged that I didn't think was needed, but I didn't know since I'm not experienced with that. They also had other people come out, which was the same company that told me my walls are all wet so I had to have a lot of work done. Overall, I've always had a good experience with AHS other than the last time and I would never have those people again.

Our dishwasher went out so we called AHS to submit a claim. The problem was they tried four times before they finally got the dishwasher fixed. They kept sending people out that obviously didn't know what they were doing. One guy came in and said something about buttons and said that it was a matter of how we push the button. We still had to pay $100 for that which wasn't fair since he could have said it over the telephone. However, they've been here the time they said they'd be here, but I wish they'd be tighter with their time schedule though I understand that they get tied up in places and have to finish. Overall it's been what they promised and they do what they say they'll do which is fine since it's what we pay them for.

My AC unit decided to stop working. I called AHS and set it up. Two days later I got the call from the work guy. I live in the boonies so it's easy to get lost but he finally got to the house and came to find out the circuit board was bad so they had to order it. He came back out and it was fixed. It was quite quick. The contractor was nice and explained everything because I asked a bunch of questions. Since the repair, my AC has worked great. Now, I keep it on most of the time. AHS has been easy to work with.

My most recent claim with AHS was for my air conditioner three weeks ago. However, they couldn't find anybody to fix it, so we had to find our own person. We had to get an okay from them, but we couldn't get through to them, so it was a real process to try to get a certain number that we need. I was on the phone a total of 4 to 5 hours waiting for somebody to come on to take my call, then talking to various people trying to get numbers but people not calling back. We had to fax some information and nobody called us back on it. Finally I found a fellow and I said that I was not getting off the phone until I get the approval number. He said sorry and he was real happy to get that for me right then. He knew that I was upset and he got me the number and we have gotten a reimbursement for the work that we've done.
We've had the company policy for seven years, and we've only used it twice, both times for the air conditioner and there were only minor problems with it. The first time that we had somebody come out was very quick and it was no problem. But this time, it was very hard. He did apologize and said that they were overwhelmed with calls and they just couldn't handle so many calls that were coming in, but we did finally get it resolved.

My last claim with American Home Shield was the garage door opener. I called them up and they called me back and said they were going to send a guy out. The contractor came out, looked at everything, and called AHS back. Then AHS said that the part they have to fix -- it wasn't the motor itself, but the spring -- wasn't covered under warranty, and I read from the warranty book that AHS and the contractor were right. But the contractor did fix the problem. He was very professional and told me everything that he was going to do, and I enjoyed talking to him. I did say on the side that what I had was a double door, and he suggested I might want to get the other door fixed at the same time. So I told him to go ahead and fix it too, and he said, "Okay, no problem." The unit has been working excellent and fine since it's been repaired.
There was something on TV a couple of nights ago about someone having a problem with AHS. But I would suggest to other people that they consider my experience with AHS too -- I've had a good experience with the people that AHS sent out a couple of times. I've had no bad experience with AHS so far, and if I could do it all over again with them, I would. In fact, AHS used to have a program or plan about air conditioning, and they had so may good responses that they got overwhelmed and had to stop it.

The worst home warranty ever! I have three properties with American Home Shield and I have nothing but the worst experience with this company. Every time I called regarding an issue for one of my properties, the technician and plumbers they send were unprofessional. They have no knowledge of what they doing, and they don't want to even work and never fixed anything. The technician they sent was always trying to make every excuse in the book to get out of fixing the problem. And every time I tried to call customer service it would take me at least 45 minutes on hold to be able to talk to somebody and they were never helpful, very unprofessional, and have no knowledge of anything. I've had so many problems with them that I finally decided to cancel all my contracts and take the loss and move on. I would never ever want to deal with them again. I will never recommend them to anyone.

The sinks were clogged up so I called AHS and the representative was good. She gave me the name and the phone number of the one they were going to call. They were prompt and called me back that day. They sent a plumber over. I showed him the shower and they put the snake and then I told them about the kitchen sink and he says that the reason why it keeps doing it is because it is an older house and the pipes are smaller. It would take a while for the stuff to go down. Its not actually clogged. Now that I know that, I won't call again for a long time. Since the repair, things have been good. He just put the snake down there and that was it.
However, I had a disagreement with them about three years ago. They sent a plumber over and said they couldnt get in there. There was something obstructing the pipe in my bathtub. I said they couldn't fix it so I called Roto Rooter. It was a hairball that clogged it. I called AHS back and said there was no obstruction there, just hair. I had it in a bag in case they wanted to fight me. And I sent a picture of it through the computer to the girl and she reimbursed the Roto Rooter price of $100. They're pretty cool. I would still recommend since it was the plumber, not the company's fault. I'm happy with AHS for they help me.

We put in a service request on Thursday, August 27th because our air conditioner stopped working. On Friday we were told no one could come out until Monday. When we called to say we are in Phoenix with temps over 100 degrees, they said they would expedite the request. My husband called to verify it was being handled and was told everything was all set. We never heard from a service company. When my husband called the company listed in the email, he was told they said they could not come out earlier than Monday and told AHS this. AHS never contacted another service provider. I called on Sunday to see about getting service sooner and I was told our file was never sent to be expedited. We were on day 4 without A/C. We were then told someone would call in 1-2 hours with the name of a service because they now had to "personally call each company." I never got a call.
When we called later to check, we were told our service call that was scheduled for Monday was cancelled so now no one was coming until Tuesday. Fortunately, my husband called the service company and the guy came out Monday afternoon. He said the compressor went, but he cannot give us a part because it has to come from an AHS distribution center which is backed up. He can't get a part until Friday even though he personally has the part... We will be over a week without air conditioning. Our house is close to 100 degrees inside. I am very upset with the lack of professionalism on AHS' part with the failure to follow through with the service request. We always had good service, but this current request is horrible.
