AHS is wonderful. Every time I’ve had a problem, I call them and they fix it. My most recent claim was for the kitchen sink and toilets. The toilets weren’t flushing properly and water trickled out of the hot side of the kitchen sink and it was a little more on the cold side. The technician had to snake it. He was very good and knowledgeable. He put on booties to come into the house and then carried on a conversation. Since the repair, everything's working perfectly.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and it was easy. The problem was with their contractor, LA Appliance. They were less than helpful and it took them four times over the course of the month to actually get our drier fixed. We called them because the dryer is still not working even if they've just been here an hour ago and it would take them another week to come back to our house. It was very inconvenient for us because we don't have a line dry so we had to improvise or go to the cleaners for that. I talked to American Home Shield and they explained the process - I had no problem with them. It was LA Appliance that was less than caring, so I was not very pleased with them. The dryer has been fixed but our experience was not good.
The first time was for our washing machine. They sent a contractor, fixed it and it worked perfectly fine the same day. I had no problem when I was talking to them and I like the concept. I figure it’s a different company then that came out. But if they say it's LA Appliance, then they can send somebody else next time. We've had AHS for over a year now and will continue with them. I recommend them to a lot of people.

I've been with American Home Shield for almost 3 years and they've been doing real good. They do all my needs. I got no complaints with the people who they referred their service to. Most of the time, the contractors are fast. They set an appointment and call all the time. They're there at the time when they say they will be. American Home Shield is the best.

I called AHS because we had a couple of outlets that were burned out. There was a problem with scheduling because the electrician had an emergency the day he was supposed to come and had to spend the whole day putting in a whole new thing. They scheduled it for a week later and we didn't mind since it wasn't an emergency. The AHS representative was very communicative and told us what was wrong. There may have been somebody in the past who had plugged in a heater that might have burned it out. Everything's working after the DFW electricians fixed it. AHS have been prompt and responsive, too.

I filed a claim for our refrigerator a few months ago and when I called AHS, they gave me a number to call and confirm that an appointment was being scheduled. Within three hours, I had it confirmed and the guy showed up the same day. When he was finished, he explained to me what the problem was and that he had fixed it, so everything went fine. I gave him his check, then he left. I told him I'd recommend him to other folks and since then, I've also recommended American Home Shield.

I already stopped our American Home Shield membership because our house is pretty new. I am really happy with them but I don’t need it. But one time when we were with them, we had a problem so I called them. They were quick to respond. The technician was very efficient and experienced. He replaced what he needed to replace, and we were satisfied with the work done. What I wasn’t happy about was when I told them that I want to stop our membership, and they kept charging my card until I kept calling and said that I already stopped. It took them four months. The second person that I spoke to was very accommodating and said she did it.

A few months ago, I called AHS and they set up someone. They called me the next day and came but we weren't home at the time the technician could have come so it took a little longer than we would have liked but it was not really his fault. I like the security of knowing that I have coverage on parts that could break down and they do the screening of technicians. I feel a little more confident knowing that I have something protecting my home. It's been a very positive experience with AHS. Most of the time, things have worked out well, so it's been helpful.

I went online to submit a claim for our ceiling fan which was great and very easy. I'm pleased with doing it with the recording because it helps. Instead of waiting to talk to someone, I can tell them what the appliance is and then they'll send me an email which is a great follow up. I've been with AHS for some time now and I've told a lot of people about them. The person comes out to see me and then I get another one asking me to rate the other person. People from AHS are very knowledgeable, professional, customer-oriented and take care of everything.
The contractor who fixed my air conditioner was very professional too. He came in and puts stuff to cup their shoes because I have a light carpet. The ones who did the garbage disposal, oven and the ceiling fan were also doing good. I'm still waiting though for the ceiling fan because they didn't make that model anymore. I will continue to renew the contract. I'm very excited with it and I don't feel the need to change.

I don’t have any bad experience with American Home Shield. They’re pretty good and the few times I had problems, they get on it quickly. The people they sent know what they’re doing. My most recent claim with them was my washer. I called somebody and within 24 hours, somebody came in here and it was repaired. I paid my deductible and everything is okay. The contractor they sent is very professional, explained everything to us, gave us an appointment, and showed up on time. It’s been working just as it was working when it was new.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the washing machine and I submitted it online. Minutes after I submitted it, they sent me an email giving me the name of the company that they were going to send out with their phone number. Within eight hours, I received a call from the company and they made an appointment to come in. They checked to see what the issue was, ordered parts through Home Shield, and came back in and corrected the issue. They were very professional. I liked the gentlemen that came in and worked on the washer very much. And since the repair, it’s been working great. As a matter of fact, there’s a load in there right now.
Every once in a while, with some other issues, sometimes it takes a little while to get a repair because they would prefer to provide the parts because it’s less expensive for them and sometimes it takes a little while to get the parts shipped here. I’ve been with them in a lot of years and I get the better deal with them than some of the other companies that are out there.

I have seven homes on American Home Shield. There are times when I've had to get second opinion. They have a tendency to find a reason that they can't fix something. They went out to fix a plumbing issue at one of our rental properties and it has been repaired already. However, a lot of times they have issues with water pressure because in this area, the water pressure's too high but I called the water company and they said that's the normal water range for this area. They want me to pay 500 and some odd dollars for them to put some kind of special valve in. That irks me because it has been that way for the last 30 years. I don't mind things that make sense but when things are illogical or arbitrary, then, I'm not happy. I'm almost 80% satisfied with AHS.

My air conditioner was faltering. The first time AHS came to see it and they worked it out for a month. On the second time, the coil died. I called them back and they came on time and fixed it. I disagree with their Freon prices but it’s not the company. I'm a very happy camper, and satisfied with the claims process. Great company.

I've had three different air conditioner people say that my air conditioner needs to be replaced because it's old and is losing Freon but American Home Shield wants me to keep putting Freon in, and they only pay $10 for it. My last bill for Freon was $900. Someone finally said, "I don't think you should put any more Freon in here. I think you should put that money towards a new air conditioning system.” So now, we're going to have somebody put a new air conditioner in and I'm waiting to see if AHS is going to cash out or pay for it, but I haven't heard back from them.

I've had my pool worked on with my recent claim with AHS. Submitting the claim was a difficult process. It's hard to get a hold of anybody because they're under-staffed so it takes forever. I was on the phone one day for an hour on hold which was ridiculous. Then I had to go to a different stage because they had nobody in my area but nobody bothered to call me and tell me this. They had 24 or 48 hours to answer me but I never heard anything from anybody to tell me why. I just sit there and wonder. Also, when I went through the Home Buyer, I didn't seem to have a problem but when I went into it by myself, the price went up and now I have problems with them. However, the contractors were very knowledgeable, personable and nice. But they need to staff up.

I'm glad that American Home Shield is my warranty company. My sister has them and my realtor wanted me to have AHS as well. A couple of weeks ago, I called them but I went ahead and cancelled that work order because we weren't ready to have someone come out. The only other claim I had with AHS was a plumbing claim back in May, and everything was great. I went online, filed the claim and got a response from the contractor in no time. It was on that same day. Within a couple of hours, they were able to come out and take care of the problem. They were very professional and courteous. There weren't any complaints. Although the guy could not find the cleanout on the front or back of the house even after taking off the toilet seat (an extra charge out of my pocket), I can understand the guy's issue.
We have an older house and it was extremely hot out that day. It was muggy and there were mosquitoes because it had been raining. Up to this day, I've not been able to find the cleanout. So he and I would have probably been looking for it forever. Other than that, I went ahead and kept the contractor's number. I wanted to ask for that particular company in case I call AHS again for a plumbing service. AHS is the only home warranty that I've had and I'd recommend them to anybody.

August 24: Called AHS to request repair on my ref. Sep 1: First contractor came to my house and said he didn't work on KitchenAid appliances. Sep 8: Second contractor came to the house. Diagnosed as a bad control board. Said he would be back in a week with new board. Sep 15: Returned without a control board. Claimed he would have to pull the existing board out and send it to be rebuilt. Estimated time to rebuild: 4 weeks. I called AHS and stated that four weeks without a ref. was unacceptable. They told me that they would give me a cash in lieu offer.
Sept 22: Offer never came. I called back and they said they would buy me a new ref. Sept 24. This offer also never came. I told them I wanted resolution. They offered me $60 for a dorm rental. I told them to give me my money back (the $125 service fee) and I would fix it myself. Sep 25: I told them to cancel my account and never charge it again. They told me a retention specialist would call me back. Card was charged for $34 for another month same afternoon. Every time I have called I have had to be on hold for 45 min plus. And I still haven't been able to cancel yet. Over a month later... no resolution yet. Just wasted time and money with this awful company.

He looked at the unit in the back, came back in to look at our filter, and said that our filter was plugging up the air conditioner. We didn't believe him too much, but he got it to blow cold air again. Two days later, it was back to blowing hot air. We called American Home Shield back and they sent the same company out but through a different man. I've had American Home Shield for 11 years and I've kept it because I had such good results with them up until this year. I don't know if AHS changed ownership. It seems that they put you through more. When we filed a claim because of our air conditioner, it took the contractors three to four times to fix the problem. I've never had this kind of problem before. After the first visit, they had to come back and told us that AHS required them to only try the quick fix, which didn't work. They put some kind of sealant they thought might work or might not. I've had both of my ACs go out this summer. I'm 72 years old and I'm in pain a lot. We had temperatures of 90 to 98 degrees. The last time the contractors had to fix my AC, it took them almost two weeks because a part had to be ordered and it took that long to get it in. So it was bad summer for us.
The problem was fixed eventually, but it took a long time when it could have been done the first time around and the people really knew the problem. I've never complained about them before. One of my daughters is with another company while I had my other daughter get AHS. She's had a terrible problem with them and it happened this year too. I know something is different.

They had what they needed in the vehicle and it didn't take them very long to fix the problem, around 30 minutes. The problem was with the gas valve of the water heater. They removed the bad one and put in a new one. I couldn't go out and buy the part that they needed myself but wanted to make sure that it was a certified item and that it would meet code restrictions. They were very efficient and courteous too
The only thing was there was an upfront fee of $100 aside from the monthly fee that I've already been paying. I haven't dealt with any same type business so I can't compare it and don't know what anybody else pays upfront each visit. I'm on a fixed income so being able to save money directly or indirectly is paramount. When I saw AHS' advertisement, I figured they would take care of it. My air conditioning system went out. It wasn't blowing cold air so I called American Home Shield. They said they had three or four different people in my area and none of them could come to my home. They weren't answering my phone calls. They said because of the hot weather in California, they were backed up for days. I told them it was an emergency. My house is 101 degrees, I can't sleep, can't do anything, and I felt almost sick. Finally, a contractor called me back but they told me that they don't work on manufactured homes so they cancelled their appointment with me. I had called the contractor three or four times but no one would ever answer the phone. I left messages but nobody would call me back. So when I called AHS, one of the representatives gave me a second number that was listed as an emergency number.
I called that number and the owner answered the phone. He was very nasty. He got mad at me and said, "Who gave you this number? This is my personal cellphone number. Don't you ever call me on this number!" I said American Home Shield gave me his number and he said AHS shouldn't be giving out his number to anybody. Then he told me that he had a lady at his place and hung the phone up in my face. When I called him back on the same number, he didn't answer. A few minutes later, he must have called his office because a lady called me up and told me they don't do manufactured homes and that my unit is different from other units.
I called American Home Shield back and told them what happened. They found another company who told me they work on manufactured homes but told American Home Shield otherwise. I went back and forth with them. Finally, I did a three-way call with them a lady said, "Well, here's the deal, we normally don't do them but we will come out to see what we can do but we can't make no guarantees. And if we come out there and we can't do it, then we can't do it. If you just need the coolant, then yeah, we could give you the coolant. But if it's anything more than that, we won't be able to do it." What if it's something else? Then I have to pay them $75 for nothing?
So now, I got all these people involved. I've made about eight or nine calls to American Home Shield. I talked to a guy and I asked him for his supervisor. The supervisor never came to the phone and never called me back and. I asked for supervisors twice but and they never gave me one. Then a guy told me, "I'll tell you what, here's what we're going to do. You can hire somebody on your own that's non-authorized." I had a guy who I used to keep when I first bought the AC unit. I called him up and see if he could come. He told me the soonest he could come would be the next day.
AHS told me that the outside contracted vendor had to call their non-authorization section for them to approve him. He was reluctant to do it because he said he worked with a lady in the past and AHS could never get it approved and it was back and forth with them, too. I said, "Well, I talked to them. I gave them the name of your company. They said that you were not on the list that they would not approve. You would be fine but you need to call them." He finally called them and AHS approved him. He came out and my bill came to $530. Of the $530, I'm only going to get reimbursed $370.
Everything that I've done with AHS was great but this recent incident was horrendous. It was very frustrating and disappointing. It was extremely stressful and was the worst experience I ever had in my life. In the end, they offered to reimburse me $125 for a fan. I was in the house for a whole week at a hundred degrees. I wasn't sleeping for two nights so I went to a hotel the third night and paid $85 to stay around the corner in a hotel. I went to four stores but fans were all sold out because of the season. I ended up buying a ceiling fan but I couldn't get anybody to install it because I don't have any electricals in the ceiling. They'd have to do it which would cost me $500. Nonetheless, my unusual situation turned out good because they provided remedy for it. Finding out that they contract with people who don't work on manufactured homes after I signed up the policy with them was the problem.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the disposal. It's easier to make the claim online but we did it by phone which takes longer. But whoever answered the phone was helpful, so it was perfectly fine. The contractors said they called the same day that they received the work, then they managed to be here the next day and ended the same day. The technician was also good. I'm a real estate agent and I always recommend AHS to most of my clients.

Our bathroom was clogging up continually for about a month. I called and explained it to the AHS rep. Union Plumbing came and said, "Well, it's not clogged now. There's no problem," and left. They never fixed it. My son and his wife came down from California and they took out the toilet and replaced it and they found that there was something stuck in the thing - that's why it was constantly clogging up. AHS charged me $75 for Union Plumbing coming to tell me that there was nothing wrong with my toilet when there was and I can show the receipts of having to put a new toilet in. I'm very unhappy with that. I would recommend AHS, but they have to be careful because sometimes, the people that they send don’t do their job.

I am still waiting for the repair to get done because they had to order the part, so we have to keep the water temperature up high so that we have hot water. But overall AHS has been excellent. I have been with American Home Shield for a long time and each time, they have always been good about fixing whatever was wrong. However, the last claim ticked me off. It was for my air conditioning unit. I didn’t know what was wrong with it, it was only blowing but there was no air coming from it. I was thinking it needed some freon. I can’t talk to anybody when I call them. I’ll be on hold over the phone forever and nobody ever comes, so I quit trying to call them and went on to see if I could find somebody else. But while I was online to do the claim with AHS, it said that I had no coverage for it. The month before that, I called them and they sent someone out to check. It was making a noise and they fixed it. I thought they must have cut it off after that because I had air conditioning before. After I saw that my coverage for it was unavailable, I wrote them a letter. Then someone called me so they can come and check it out.
At that time, I had talked to my sister and where she worked, their air conditioning unit was doing the same thing mine was doing. She said I should cut it off and let it sit for a while because it freezes up. I had never heard of that before but that’s what I did. We burnt up two days but it worked. So when the people called to come see it, it was already working. I found out that must be what the problem was, it has frozen up. It did it again so I cut it off and let it all day without using it. Then I turned it back on and it was working again. It’s been working ever since. Although it wasn't AHS that fixed my AC unit, I love them and I’m not thinking of cutting them loose right now.

My most recent claims were for a garbage disposal which stopped working and a plumbing issue. I had a stoppage in the toilet, it was backing up and stuff was coming out of the pipe in the front yard. I did the claims over the phone. The representatives who take the call and the plumbers they sent were fine. They decided to replace the garbage disposal but American Home Shield wouldn't cover the plumbing issue for the toilet stoppage. The company would charge $1700 to fix it. That was a little painful so I had somebody else to fix it. Although they have long hold times, I love American Home Shield. It has been an awesome experience with them.

The people that do the claims for AHS were professional although sometimes it’s frustrating getting through because they're so busy and it takes a while on hold; but once I'm in to the process and I've made the report to the person, I’ve had excellent results. I couldn’t be happier. ] why I kept them. I had both Choice Warranty and American Home Shield for about a week. And I made a decision and cancelled the home program with Choice Warranty and kept American Home Shield because of my experience that I had with them. I had a claim for my water heater and they sent out a repair person that was kind of off-the-wall. I have a guy that I use for that kind of stuff so I had him put the water heater in. AHS was stellar. They paid for it, and then it covered the cost for having it put in. And it worked very well.
The only issue I have with AHS was there was some extra coverage that they told me they could put on my policy and there wouldn’t be a charge for it as a courtesy. And then when I called up to have it put on, they told me they couldn’t do it because the year had started already or something. Also, they are more than expensive - almost a hundred dollars. They're more expensive than what Choice Warranty is giving to me before. They've got a higher deductible, too. Choice has $40 deductible when I signed up for a three-year contract and their rate was $400 and with AHS, it's $500. But I kept AHS because of the results that I’ve had in the past with them. They've done a good job and I'd recommend AHS.

Everything went smoothly but they wanted to charge twice for the same repair and I noted that because the repair wasn’t done correctly the first time, so there’s no reason that we should have the service charge for the second time. But that got remedied and everything worked out fine. Overall, they are efficient and have good customer service so I would recommend them.

I've been a real estate agent for 20 years and have always used AHS and had good experience with them. When I submitted a claim to them regarding an electric board on a Jenn-Air Range that needed to be replaced, the experience was great. The contractor they sent out was outstanding. He came in and assessed the situation. He called in to make sure the part was available and approximately how long it would take to get it delivered to his office. After he found out, he scheduled the return appointment to install it. When he came out again, there was a little difficulty at first because it wasn't exactly like the one he took off. It took him around 10-15 minutes more to get it to work properly. But it's been completed today and it works great.
The only thing is I went online and did the reviews on the one that AHS found to do this job and there were quite a few negative comments. I went online and even called AHS to get it done, but I couldn't. I thought it was kind of odd because you certainly wouldn't want someone who's doing a job that was rated low. But it turned out that my experience was good with the company. On the whole, I would definitely recommend AHS.

My most recent claim with AHS was for my frost-free refrigerator which was full of frost. What ended up happening was a mix-up with the girl at the appliance repair place. AHS set it all up then the girl called to set up the appointment with me. She said they can't get to me until four days later and I wasn't really happy about it. I told her that it was my refrigerator and that I just bought groceries. When the service guy came, he had no clue that it was a refrigerator. He told me, "In this particular instance, when it’s a refrigerator, that’s an emergency. Had I known this, I would have taken care of this because a dishwasher, a washing machine, they could’ve changed their appointment. She could’ve cancelled one of theirs and moved it to the day that your appointment was and we could’ve come out and fixed your refrigerator that day."
He got it fixed then said, “If for whatever reason something happens, you guys start building frost in that freezer again, call me back because I’m going to order the part. It has not come in but I’m going to come and replace your condenser.” And sure enough, I called him back two days later and he says, “I’ve got it. It’s on the truck. I’m in that area today, I will swing by. I’ll take care of it and this should fix the problem.” And I have not had a problem since. He also came out and fixed my washing machine for me. He’s a very honest guy and very thorough. We’ve been pleased both times with the two claims that we’ve made that he’s fixed. I can have clean clothes now and my food’s cold and it’s just wonderful. The contractor that came out was really good. He diagnosed the problem fairly quickly and got the system up and running like it should be, then it started going bad again.
The problem was the air conditioner was ice-balling which meant it needed to be defrosted every few hours. For the first month after he did the repair, it worked flawlessly. Didn’t need to de-ice it. Then it slowly devolved back into needing to de-ice it every three hours. The person that came out to fix it was really sharp on what was going on with the system. My most recent claim with AHS was for my air conditioner and it was an easy process. However, I did have a claim with American Shield that I am not happy about. It was when my water softener went out and American Shield denied the repair because the repair person that came out said it needed to be replaced but they didn't. Their thing was my policy was fairly new and that the repair person said it was out prior to me reporting the claim, which I told them it was not. So I put in a claim with them for follow up as to why they denied my request and they said it was simply based on the fact that I was a new client. I’m still in grievance with them about it.
I took out the additional coverage for my septic tank and some other things that was not covered and under the policy with American Shield so I’m paying a little bit more but as a consumer, perhaps they didn’t receive enough money from me in payments in order to justify them replacing my water softener. So I am probably going to cancel at least the water softener coverage with them if they are not going to replace it for I’m not happy with them regarding that issue. I've also read similar complaints online. I am okay with their service except for the issue with the water softener.

I have been an American Home Shield Customer for almost 2 years, but I am cancelling my contract with them. They do not have enough agents working their toll free phone number, so you end up on hold for very long periods of time (sometimes between 45 and 60 minutes), and their contractors are as hard to reach and very slow to schedule your service repairs. We have had to wait 4-5 days on at least 2 occasions to have our A/C fixed. We live in Jacksonville, FL, and during the summer months, that is a long time to be without AC!
The latest issue, which caused me to terminate AHS and to write this review, involved our water heater. In mid-July, we called and reported that our gas water heater was not working. AHS assigned the repair to their plumbing contractor. The plumber they sent out initially misdiagnosed the problem, and he took the valve/thermostat apart, but that did not fix the issue. He left to order a new thermostat, but came back in a few days and checked the exhaust vent, which was blocked by a wasp nest, and once it was cleared, the water heater began heating the water. However, we began to smell propane gas in the garage, where the water heater is located, and called AHS again. They had the same plumber come out and he found several connections that he had not tightened where gas was leaking.
Within a week, we were smelling gas again, called AHS again, and they assigned it again to their plumbing contractor. They sent a different plumber this time, but he could not find a leak, and only re-tightened the connections in the hope it would stop the leak. Again, within a week or two, we started smelling gas, called AHS and this time the master plumber told us we would have to contact our gas company to find the leak, and if they found a leak, they would possibly "red tag" the heater, which would mean it would have to be replaced. I told him that the gas company would charge me $143 to come out, and he said I would have to discuss reimbursement with AHS.
The gas company found a leak where the gas supply line from the valve goes into the burner, and the gas company technician indicated the leak was probably caused by the plumber when he originally removed the valve. I had not had a gas leak before the plumber initially came out to "repair" the water heater. When I called AHS, they assigned it to their Customer "Relations" Department (what a misnomer), and a Bill ** from that department called me. Mr. ** informed me that AHS would not reimburse me for the gas company's service charge and that I would have to pursue it from their plumber, as that is what the contract provided. When I protested and stated that I did not have a contract with the plumber, and that AHS chose and required me to use that plumber, Mr. ** reiterated that their Agreement clearly states they are not responsible for secondary damage caused by their contractor.
Mr. ** was unfriendly, lacked any form of customer service, and AHS should not have a Customer Relations Department that is so unhelpful. Our water heater ended up being replaced this week (2 months after the initial service request), but I had to pay a $75.00 service fee to AHS, the $143 to the gas company and another $425 for "repiping" to the plumber. I highly recommend that you do NOT use AHS for your home warranty needs.

American Home Shield has been a pathetic disappointment. I have been without a refrigerator and kitchen water for over a month. My refrigerator stopped working over a month ago. The ice maker had stopped working two months before that. I called AHS and they scheduled an appointment in 10 days. At that scheduled appointment time a Sears appliance technician came and began work on my GE fridge. He worked for several hours before telling me he needed parts and would get them and return. Within the next week four separate boxes of parts arrived at my door. I had to call AHS several times (I recall at least two) to have a technician come to put them in.
Six days later a man from Gulf Appliance (Chris?) came to my door to finish the job. He asked me for the $75 fee. I told him I wasn't going to pay until it was fixed. He poked around for a while then told me there were other things wrong with the unit and it would need other parts. After taking all the parts that had been delivered, he left, telling me someone would be back. The next day another man from Gulf Appliance came to fix the ice maker. He also asked for $75. My response was the same as the day before. He told me that another repair service would come to fix the refrigerator as that is a separate issue and it would cost an additional $75. Before leaving, the technician turned off the water in my kitchen sink so the ice maker/water dispenser wouldn't leak.
A week later I still hadn't heard from any technician or AHS and it is extremely difficult to get through to them. I finally spoke to a woman named Virginia and she offered me $175 toward the replacement of my $2000 refrigerator. I told her I either wanted mine fixed or a new fridge. She said she would get back to me. She never did. It has now been 33 days. I have no kitchen water and an ice chest on the floor. My freezer (separate cooling systems) has since gone out and all my frozen food has gone bad.
I called this morning and spoke to a man name Courtney. He was rude and dismissive. I asked for a supervisor and he told me there weren't any available and Virginia would call me back tomorrow. When I asked Courtney if he was allowed to work without a boss, he told me all the supervisors were busy and someone would get back to me within 24 to 48 hours. They only received one call from AHS. That was a request to renew my contract! Ha! I will now attempt to contact AHS president, Mark Barry at the corporate office. 889 Ridge Lake Rd Memphis, TN 38135 - HQ Phone # 888 429 8247.

I think some of the contractors get frustrated with them because they want to fix it correctly but their funds are limited and that's when I've had to complain this one guy. I had the air conditioner fixed by American Home Shield several times and people kept coming out but they kept band-aiding it. It worked for a while and then it quit, so I had to start all over again. But finally they sent out a guy who refused to do a band-aid job, fixed it and it has worked beautifully ever since. Now, he's gone with them because evidently, it costs them too much money to pay him even though he was very reasonable compared to most of them. Maybe some of their people don't improve their repairs and some of them weren't legit. But then again, the consumer pays for that.
I'd recommend American Home Shield to people because it's better than nothing. They do respond within 24 hours and they do try to help you more than some. I know there's some troubles every once in a while but I would never quit using them because they still do try to help (everybody's kind of tight for money right now on every end of their spectrum). It's sad when they really do get people who know what they're doing, the ones that fix it correctly, that sometimes they give them a hard time.

My tenant called American Home Shield for the dishwasher, and got a number for a representative from Sears who was supposed to come out but nobody did. So then I called the Sears number that was given, and they said that they didn’t have any documentation for an appointment. I called American Home Shield back and they fixed that and had somebody come out within 24 hours. The rep from Sears was a little bit late but they got everything taken care of.
I appreciate having the service from American Home Shield because they’re very prompt overall. My only concern with the house being in Florida is that sometimes I’ve had problems getting a technician out in a timely manner when I have air conditioning issues, because American Home Shield tend to send somebody out within two or three days. That’s not appropriate when it's in the middle of summer, and sometimes I’ve had to call outside vendors. But otherwise, they’ve been great and I really have peace of mind having American Home Shield knowing that they’re going to be able to help me take care of anything that goes wrong with the house. I recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner.

Our central air unit’s compressor wasn’t working recently, so we submitted a claim with American Home Shield, which was a very difficult process. I’m getting told one thing, and then when I speak to the contractor, they were in another place doing something else, and didn’t know if they could get here that day. We’ve been without air conditioning for about a week before getting someone here, and it went for another two weeks before they finally got the compressor in. We have a three bedroom house and we had to stay somewhere else because it was so hot without our unit. However the contractors were great, and customer service were very nice and reasonable. We never had a problem with AHS before, but this last time was very difficult. I’d still recommend AHS however, since there’s good days and bad days, and I can’t say that the whole business is bad because it’s not.

In 2003, I couldn't make a claim when I wanted to because they said my appliances weren't covered. They were only covered for a year. I've been paying for 12 years and I used it once in 2003, just after I moved into this house and I haven't made a claim since. But I'm covered in case. My most recent claim was when my air conditioner went on the fritz which was two months ago. When I called, it was supposed to be a five-day wait but it's really hot here and everybody's air conditioner was going kaplooey.
The first person that AHS contacted, I contacted them too and they were way backed up. So I called AHS and they gave me another carrier who came within two days and did a good job. He was really good and fast. He knew what he was doing and was very helpful. He fixed it and we got cooled off because we were roasting here. My major appliances were covered but not my other ones. I did not understand in the beginning that I paid this amount of money but I had to renew it every year on the small appliances which I already did in July after the contractor explained things to me. I hope if I have to make a claim on a small appliance, they come out and don't say "Oh you're not covered" because I'm paying $20 more a month for that insurance which I hope covers my washer, dryer, fridge and stove.
Another issue was that they had my zip code wrong for the longest time so I never got my mail. I'm right on the borderline of the county and so they think it's the code for the next two blocks over. That's why I got stuck with paying my own repair because I had no idea that I wasn't covered. That went on for years but they finally got it right. They got to be more specific when signing up for the first time that we got to renew that home appliance thing every year because that was not explained. I thought I was set for however long I paid this insurance for whatever they said they covered in the beginning but that wasn't the case. But I found out the hard way. But so far, so good. I'm not changing.

I have been frustrated with this company since my first claim. They came to fix my AC only to fill my unit with freon so it could all leak out again in 3 months. They didn't do a thorough investigation of my unit, they took the easy way out since the fine print said I had to pay for freon ($100 per pound - $500 total). I know they took the easy way because when I had the unit replaced on my own, the technician said the coil was severely deficient and worthless. (I saw it with my own eyes).
So I filed a claim to get reimbursed at least to recover some of the money I had to pay out of pocket. Come to find out my address was mysteriously not in the system, even though the email I got from them when I signed up was accurate. And they only had a record of service requested on a water heater, which I never requested. So I don't know if I'll ever get reimbursed. About a week later, my water pressure went low throughout the whole house, so I don’t know if that’s 30 days of being on the warranty. I had a gentleman come out. He looked at it and said that it would cost me about $1500 to have everything replaced because of something outside that is required to make it work. It's plumbing on the outside of my house. When I called a man to see it and told them what was going on and that it was still less than 30 days, they tested everything outside and found out that in the garage they had to turn off something. Calcium had built up which caused water to stop flowing in the whole house. So, all that is supposed to cost me $2000, I only paid $75. They have been reliable.

We received a one year home warranty as part of the closing on our recent home purchase. After getting recommendations from our realtor and researching online, we chose to buy the warranty from American Home Shield (AHS). Little did we know that we would be testing out the company less than two weeks after moving into our home.
On July 24th I called AHS to obtain a pre-approval and schedule a service call. I told the lady who took the call very clearly that I was calling about a window air conditioning unit. My words were something like "it is a window unit that is installed into a wall because there is no window there." The lady stated that this would then be a wall air conditioner which was in fact covered. She took the rest of the information and told me someone would contact me soon to schedule an appointment. Fortunately the repair company was able to schedule a technician for the following morning.
After checking out the issue, the technician came to me with his phone and stated that the unit was not covered under the warranty. I assured him that it was because I had called the previous day. He then handed me the phone and I spoke with Patricia. She explained that a mistake had been made in stating that the air conditioning unit was covered. In fact, it was not covered because it was a window unit. I shared with her the details of my call to AHS the previous day for pre-approval. She stated that she was sorry but that person had provided incorrect information. At this point I indicated that I understood the error but stated that I did not feel that I should have to pay the service call fee since the error was AHS's fault. Patricia agreed and stated that she would cover the cost of the service call fee and I ended the call.
A few minutes later the technician again came to me with the phone because he was having difficulty getting the authorization number from AHS to cover the service call fee. I replayed the entire conversation with a man whose name I failed to write down. At the end of our conversation he asked to speak to the technician. He then provided the technician with the authorization number. It seemed that everything had come out fine and that the company had honored their promise but unfortunately, my relief was premature.
On August 19th I received a bill from AHS for the $75 service call fee. I immediately called to dispute the issue. Mike answered my call. He reported that there were no notes on my account indicating that Patricia or the next person I spoke with had agreed to cover the service call fee. Now remember, the second person had to have given the technician an authorization number to pay the fee because that technician would not have left my home without payment of some sort!
The phone conversation with Mike devolved into a discussion of internal procedures for the dispute which, not being an employee of the company, I found hard to follow. After a lengthy conversation Mike told me that a supervisor would have to pull the tape of the call I had with Patricia in order to find out if my report was true. I also suggested that he have the supervisor listen to the initial call for the pre-approval. Mike told me that the supervisor would call me after listening to the tape.
The supervisor never called back. Today, September 23rd, I received another bill from AHS. Obviously the 30 minutes I spent on hold waiting to speak to Mike and the subsequent conversation had done nothing to resolve the issue. I am now resorting to posting a negative review in the hope that someone from the company will actually return my call or contact me via email. The bottom line is that I can afford to pay the $75 service fee but I should not have to do so due to the error of an AHS employee. My concern is that this may have happened to other consumers.

On our request to give our money back because of lack of professionalism they are reviewing our call for more than 3 weeks already!!! Every time I call them they are saying "we have to contact supervisor" and "he will call you back." Guess what? No call. It is not about the money, at this point it is about principle. I would never recommend this company to anyone, even they would be for free.

They tell me to go online but that's something I don't like to do because I know their whole time is forever. Sometimes they don't get back to you, but they're getting better.
My first experience was when I first got the insurance and a guy came out from them to check my ceiling fan which started making noise about three months ago. The person let me know that his company was 15 miles from here and this was too far for him - he didn't want to come down here - and that was not his problem. He told me the ceiling fan doesn't make any noise. I told him it's the company that called him, not me. Nobody in a business would speak to a customer like that. He was the owner of his business and if that's something he says to a customer then he's got problems. They never sent him back so thank goodness. I wouldn't want his services anyway. 24-hour service is only for someone to come and take a look, not repair. Repairs may take weeks. They take their own time to review, search, authorize, and order the parts, that come via snail-mail. Their contractor will point out some issue which is written in fine-lines in the contract as 'uncovered' (you need a lawyer to interpret them) and they will charge you additional money. In my experience about $200 to $400 for water heater, $1000+ for A/C etc.
In case unit is expensive, they will delay it so much that you cry. Then they will offer a Cash-In-Lieu option, which takes another 3-4 days to authorize. The best bet for them is that you give up, purchase your own and get replaced, and they will reimburse you half of that. Their operators will keep apologizing that they can't help, but will never connect to the supervisors. There is no way to escalate the issue. Supervisors will call back in 24 hours. If you missed it, you are back in line for another 24 hours call back.

It's a great and wonderful program because everybody's appliances age down through the years and AHS is able to step in and relieve you of a lot of the problems that you would have with home ownership. It's a great experience and I'd recommend it easily to anyone, to family and friends.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a water leak and they came out and was able to fix it on their first trip. It depends on the contractors who have come out on different problems. Some take care of it quicker and better than others. AHS must stay on top of it and if the contractors aren’t up to standard, they replace them. One contractor was very rude and didn’t speak to me very kindly and was accusing me of things. He didn’t even have the right customer. He thought he was talking about a different one. I reported him and American Home Shield got right on it. It all worked out okay.
As far as American Home Shield themselves - they do follow up, make sure the problems been taken care of. I’ve been satisfied with American Home Shield since I’ve had them for 5 years and I plan on going to continue staying with them. I put a claim in for the evaporative cooler and my sister was at home when the contractors came in. The contractors said that they could not fix it the way I was asking because there was a part missing. So, it's functioning but how do you miss a part? I can’t get the contractors to answer me because they said they were waiting for American Home Shield to respond to them. And I never heard back. It's a brand new unit but I think it wasn't working properly so I called American Home Shield and these contractors came out. They've come out here before but this is the first time they told me that they can't fix it, and it would cost me because there's a missing part. But the part was there. It was not like I'm in the habit of jumping on my roof and taking parts off.
Overall, I would still recommend American Home Shield because there’s no proof that the contractors got in touch with them and said, “We won't fix this. Although they haven’t replaced the dishwasher yet, we’re in the process of doing that now. What I like about AHS is that I don’t have to go searching for specific professionals. We have been with AHS for 14 years with no major problems. Our air conditioning unit needed repair from time to time. In May of 2015 it was determined it needed to be replaced. It was replaced with a unit not compatible with the air handler. After many visits from repairmen that AHS selected, they finally agreed to replace the air handler. The Air Conditioning folks forced us to dig a trench on the opposite side of the house where the original trench is located. We complied and in turn they submitted a ridiculous bill to AHS of additional charges totaling $1600.00. AHS is requesting we pay the air conditioning people without checking the validity of the charges. The Air Conditioning folks made it clear to us they were not getting paid enough from AHS.
That is what is upsetting. It is obvious they are padding the costs to make more money. What is the point of a home warranty if they do not advocate for their paying clients. At this point we have spent the entire summer in our home in South Carolina without central air. We had to invest in portable units. Here it is the end of September and there is another block. We are completely frustrated with this company and their antics. After spending 14 years with AHS and this is the way they operate when you have a major appliance that needs replacement, speaks volumes about this company. At this point they have us between a rock and a hard place because they are not willing to get another opinion on the excessive charges. Now AHS want to offer us a buy out.

So they put in the required amount of a new type of Freon (they don't use regular Freon anymore), turned it on, and it works fine now.
They also did some work with the heating and cooling unit inside the house. But my wife wasn't too happy about that because they did things that were unnecessary, in her opinion. We didn't need any of that. But the machine is working fine now. It's getting hot outside. The outside machine is working just fine and we've got no complaints otherwise. Our water heater broke on April 19. We called AHS to have it fixed and were told that the Water Heater was not on our contract. I told the person that I had asked for it to be included but never saw the contract as they never sent me a final version of it. A supervisor called me that evening and told me that the best they can do is review my original sales call from that previous August and if I did ask for the Water Heater - they would cover it. I asked him to look into it. He told me it would take a couple of days to get the info. Thank goodness I have family within a mile so my 5 yr old could take baths and we could shower there.
A few days goes by, I call back and am then told it can take a week to pull a call! So I ask "What should I do?" They say "Buy a water heater and get reimbursed." So we do. And a week later my call still hadn't been pulled. No reason as to why... I tell them to stop charging me until they pull the call because things are seeming "NOT RIGHT". I call every 2 weeks for a couple of months in hopes of getting some answers and getting some of the $1300 reimbursed for the water heater. I sent a full letter about my problems in June in hopes of getting a response (no phone calls, no response). The people you call just say "We aren't sure how to help you. We'll have someone call you." Someone calls me in July and I am hopeful - but nope they just wanted me to know that I owe for my contract! I explain what happened she looks at the notes in my file and is shocked and says she will look into it (never hear back from her).
In August I call as I get a statement saying I'll be canceled at the end of the month if I don't pay (I just want them to pull the call!!!). I finally get someone who has the call pulled and tells me I'll get a call in 45 minutes (yep - no one calls me back!). 2 days later I call back to find out that they canceled me and that the call was pulled but they couldn't make out what was said. They'd have someone call me about it. I filed with the BBB... the only response I got from that was that my contract did not have a water heater on it which was what I was asking them to look into to begin with.
This company does not care about service. You can't get a hold of the right people to get things fixed when they are screwed up. I'm thankful that we had extra money to pay for the water heater - I'm not sure what people do who don't have that kind of cash. I really feel like the company is a scam... no one seems to know what is going on. You just get someone different every time you call and you get the same answer - someone will call you back but no one does. It took 4 months to get my call pulled. I asked them to pull it because I KNOW what I requested and in the end they still could not say that I didn't ask for it they just chose to say NOTHING. Do yourself a favor and DON'T use this company!

This is my first time dealing with a home warranty as I have lived in apartments thus far. I just moved into my new home and noticed that water was leaking in the floorboards of the hallway right in front of the hallway bathroom and decided that I needed to call American Home Shield (AHS) to have it looked at before it ruined the floors. Called the day before. Used the "automated service" that generated a contractor for the job who would call to make an appointment. After getting off the phone with AHS, I researched the servicing company who would be coming out and noticed really bad reviews about the company, even stating that the company was sent out by AHS and they had to have it re-serviced by another contractor.
I tried to call AHS and speak to an actual representative to discuss if I could choose the contractor who would service my home and she stated that "After you request a service repair, the next available vendor that we contract with is given to you". I asked if I could choose one of the vendors they contracted with and she said, "We are unable to do that because the next available vendor is given to you when you request a service repair". I then asked if I would receive a refund of the service charge if the company they choose was unable to get them done. The customer service representative (CSR) then proceeded to HANG UP ON ME. Bottom line, I was unable to figure out why the vendor had to do a poor job before I could use another more preferred vendor for the job of fixing my first home. Second, I have never had a CSR hang up on me. It's likely that we will not be staying with this company for long.

I was concerned that the contractor wouldn't be somebody who worked on high-end products. Fortunately, he was used to working on a Sub-Zero, knew exactly what was wrong and was very efficient too. In fact, the refrigerator is working great after the repair; however, the six-burner stovetop is still having the same issues - some of the burners still don't work. It’s the whole process of trying to get someone, then to telling him/her what we need, and then contacting the right person we need to talk to. That’s annoying. We would prefer it if we call, someone answers and tells us what we need.

I’ve had a house for 27 years and have had American Home Shield in that house that whole time. They’ve been good through all those times. Nothing ever happened and I keep paying them. But I had some problems with them regarding the AC unit of the house. Since the house is a rental property, an old lady used to stay there. She went through some discomfort because the heating and air conditioning weren’t working. The air conditioner is 40 years old and it keeps going on and off. In a month or two, AHS sent people from the same company out there six times to fix it. I got lucky a couple of times because it went out before the 30 days that they had come out on their own.
Since the last time they fixed it, it hasn’t broken down yet. But if it happens again, there’s only going to be another band-aid that’s going to go on it and it’s going to keep happening. Companies like that get paid for making such calls. I don’t know if they give any information back to AHS. AHS doesn’t tell me anything. But each time the people from the company came, they wrote on the bill that the unit needs to be replaced. They also wrote at the back of the bill what it would cost to replace it. The thing is, they are all from the same company, but they wrote different costs for the replacement. That’s not a nice game. Whenever I call AHS and tell them what I need, they say, “Okay, we’ll send somebody out.” I tell them to give me an advance notice because it takes me a few minutes to get there from where I live.
But this time when I called AHS, I said to the rep, “You keep sending the same people out to the house. I don’t want them to come back because I’m having problems with them. They take too long to come out and they don’t do a good job. A week later that thing is down again.” I wanted them to send someone different – the guy that takes care of the air conditioning in this area and not from the same company that they send every time. I also wanted them to do an evaluation on whether the air conditioning needed to be replaced or not. The woman said yes, but noted that I had to pay for the service call of $75. I said I had no problem with that. She then asked if the unit was still running.
When I said yes, she said, “We don’t normally send somebody out if it’s running.” But since I wanted an evaluation, she said they’ll send someone out. When a man came out and noted that it was running, the woman said, “We’re not going to do anything about it.” I raised hell with AHS. I told her that I’m not going to leverage with AHS and will start looking. I have six different houses with them and I cheated and went to their competitor because of this problem. I have people in the house and I have the responsibility to make sure that the stuff there works. I just got another house and that went another route. One thing is for sure, there’s a $10 difference with the competitor. It’s $65 for them to go out.
I have a lady who’s bedridden in another house. When I called about problems with the air conditioning, the competitor company called someone who was not in their payroll and set up the repair for me. A guy came and looked at the problem and told me that the cost would be $950 to fix it. The insurance company told me I’ll have to pay for it and then they’ll reimburse me. After that, it’s all in the books. After three weeks, I got the bill. They had taken care of the service call. I paid the bill and they reimbursed me for it. That was giving me service. I don’t get that from AHS with my house of 27 years. I pay all my bills with AHS for preventive maintenance. I paid the money for all those years and nothing happens. I didn’t have to have AHS, but that’s why it’s called insurance. I still have AHS on my house but my bill hasn’t come up yet for renewal so I did test the water with another company.
I’ve recommended AHS to other for years, but this thing with the air conditioner has gotten so far out of control. AHS kept sending people and I kept paying $75 for all that to go round and round. They could have just replaced it. They neglected and would not care for it. I don’t understand why companies would not take care of an issue like this. So, no, I wouldn’t recommend them now.

First, trying to reach American Home Shield has just been extremely difficult. I gave up a couple of times after waiting for more than an hour. They estimated the wait time to be about 10 minutes and it appeared as if after about 45 minutes, I was transferred to another line and then put on another hold. That was just really bad. Now the plumber is out here and had a company come out to detect the leak but the leak where they marked it is not where it is. It appears to be some 3 or 4 feet away from where it was. The contractor still hasn't been able to find the leak for more than three hours now, after they said they will just dig but wrongly placed the leak in bathroom and then the hallway where they had to bust the tiles up. It isn't pretty and it's unnecessary.
The base level of my house now has dust all over and tiles that's gonna have to be replaced. We're gonna have to re-tile the hallway. I have to get someone to help me come and clean the house with dust. They're now having the leak detection company come back out again and I was initially told that it would take an hour and a half for them to come, then now it's Monday or Tuesday until they're able to get other people out here to do this and get the work done and that's unacceptable.
The service before has been decent, but I can't say it's good. I have another property and there have been some problems. I didn't appreciate that the person who came out was very insulting to my daughter who was there. I was about to call the CEO of the company because I'm not pleased with the service. The other thing was when I paid for the contract this year, they had promised that the first service visit would be waived. Why would the customer have to pay to remove the sink?
So we got back to AHS and they mentioned since the pipe enters through tile it cannot be repaired. They told us to remove the tile so they could repair the pipe. Ultimately they gave us another option. They asked us to repair it and they would pay us 175 dollars to repair the pipe. This seems rather ridiculous. When they have to pay out it costs only 175 dollars. I do not know any plumber who will repair a pipe and fit it back for only 175 dollar.

I went online for my most recent AHS claim for our pool heater. I've had good experiences with them all along. I'd recommend AHS, it's a good safety net.

I have been waiting 3 weeks to get my central air conditioner repaired. A service representative came to my home initially 3 days after I first asked for service from Tri's AC out of Alexandria LA.. He tried to repair the system with a board that he had in his truck, but was unable to do so. The part had to be ordered. 1 week later they called to reschedule a service call. I asked that if I could be flexible on the day if they could promise to make me the first or last appointment of the day. The company they sent was unwilling to accommodate me on any level despite the fact that I work in a hospital. They called on Thursday to say that they could send someone on Friday, the first appointment of the day.
I took the entire day off to wait for the service rep. At 11AM I called them and was informed that I would be the last appointment of the day, not the first and that it would be around 4PM. No one showed up. At 7PM I finally got a call and the first question out of the mouth of the service rep was "did I have the part needed to repair my AC?" As you can imagine, I sort of lost it at that point. It is now Monday and I have not received a call of apology or any promise to repair my AC. If this does not get resolved today I will be cancelling my contract with AHS.

I like American Home Shield. When I submitted my claim, the people I talked to were great. I had a problem with a tankless water heater and the gentleman that came out was very good. He also came back a second time to fix something else with it. On the whole, if it was something that AHS covered, I would hire them. They have excellent people.

The water company came to our door and said that we were going to have a big bill and we might want to find out why. We were using so much water, so I submitted my claim for plumbing. We've also had some issues with the refrigerator and some other things previously. Submitting a claim both through the phone or line was very easy. One time, I called because I wasn't sure which option to select online but if what I need to choose is clear, I'll do it online. The contractors that they've sent out have all been very good personality-wise. If they can't do something, they'll let me know or let us know what to do next. We've been very happy with AHS and I would definitely recommend them.

Submitting my dishwasher repair claim with American Home Shield was an easy process, and I’ve had no problems at all. I always ask for All Appliance as my contractors since I think they’re the best, and over the last 20 years that we’ve been using AHS, we’ve primarily used them. They’re a model, and they’re great! The guy comes in, fixes my unit, 1, 2, 3, he’s done, and that’d be the best, so I have no complaints. However, when I initially called in for service, AHS wanted to assign Sears to me. I called Sears and they told me they can’t get out here for 3 weeks which is ridiculous, and so I was able to get AHS to switch to All Appliance. They guy came out in 3 days - There’s a huge difference. If only everything was like All Appliance, I’d be real happy. Other than that, AHS is terrific, and I’ve no issues whatsoever. I’d recommend them.

My most recent claim with AHS was for the plumbing. Their contractors were very professional, polite and answered my questions. However, they had to come back a couple of times and I had to pay even after 2 weeks from when they initially fixed it because the problem happened again.
