I will recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield has been as advertised. They've done everything that they said they're going to do and it's been great so far. My last claim was for my ice maker and submitting it was an easy process. AHS set me up with Sears, but they were going to be out in 10 days and I didn't want to wait that long so I called them back. They rescheduled another contractor who would come out sooner and that worked out great. I also previously submitted a claim for my pool heater. I couldn't tell how long it was not working since it's not something I use all the time, but as soon as I called AHS, they came out in a respectable time period and handled the issue in one day.

I've submitted a claim with AHS for a running toilet and I think I might have a valve problem in one of my sinks in getting the water to the bathroom. Typically it only takes a couple of minutes to get back a confirmation email. Sometimes it's a little bit longer to get a phone call or a response from the contractor. Then they usually show up a day or two after that depending on what they're doing. However, the contractor now hasn't come yet and I'm still waiting for him. But typically, it's a good turn around and they seem to have good contractors. We've had a couple of duds but for the most part, they have been very good who try to get the job done.
Every once in awhile there's a hiccup but in the end, using American Home Shield has helped us tremendously in just balancing what we need to do with repairs of the house and everything else. To me $800 a year on the insurance is more than worthwhile given what has and can go wrong. I've already recommended them several times. It's the best that I've had advertised.

American Home Shield has been very responsive and they've done a good job. Our most recent claim was with our water heater and submitting the claim was fairly easy. Contractors have mostly been very good except one group who we wrote in to them and complained about. They were trying to get extra money out of us for all sorts of things, all the time. That's the only issue we've had.

We've used American Home Shield for a few years now. We have 2 homes that they cover. Several times I've had people come out and they've always been good. We're very pleased with them. Our recent claim was with the washer. We submitted the claim over the phone. The next day we received a call back from the people who would do the service and I called back. They arrived on time, within the window they gave us, and repaired the washer. Our interaction with the AHS rep was to make it convenient for him to get into the laundry room and watch what he was doing. The contractor who came out was a gentleman and did a very clean and efficient job. He explained what was going on and what he had done. The washer's fixed now.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. I would recommend them. We had to check the performance of our air conditioner because when the power went out it wouldn't come on and didn't cool the house. Submitting the claim was very easy and the contractor they sent out made sure everything was fine.

The upper portion of my refrigerator stopped and the temperature would not cool and so I contacted American Home Shield. They told me to contact Sears, as Sears would take care of the problem. When I did contact them, I was told that they couldn’t come to my house for at least six more days and that was not satisfactory because I had medication kept in the refrigerator.
So I reported this back to American Home Shield. The lady that I talked to was very professional, polite and explained everything to me. She wanted to see my problem resolved immediately and said that because there were medications being stored, it constituted an emergency situation and she was authorized to go to a second source. I filed that away for future reference should I ever have this problem again. Half an hour after I got a call that another repair team would come to my house the very next day and fix everything. I couldn’t be happier with the responsiveness of American Home Shield. It's very easy to get coverage and they're a superior service provider. They make sure everything is understood when talking to me on the phone. For what we pay for them, they're outstanding and a great asset.

I was pretty much dissatisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. Making the claim for my HVAC system is relatively simple, but trying to get somebody out here because we were rural, was like chewing nails. It took over a month to get somebody out. We had to make four phone calls just to make that happen. When the technician finally came, he was highly knowledgeable and very thorough. He fixed what the problem was. Once he got the assignment, it took him two days. He was very good and has a lot of integrity. I would highly recommend him anywhere.

I had an excellent experience on my recent claim for my air conditioning with AHS. It was very easy to submit the claim online, very accessible and not hard to understand. I submitted a claim for my water heater and the AHS representative explained very well. The contractor was fine. It took one day to order but he got it in and the water heater has been working fine ever since. I'm happy with AHS. With the house being 10 years old now, it's a great comfort knowing that I'm not going to have to pay a couple of thousand dollars on a moment's notice.

I sent out a claim for my toilet. Out of all the contractors who had come out, the one that they sent was by far the best one. The contractor came out there 2 or 3 times because he thought he fixed the problem the first time. Two days later, the problem came back. But ever since he came and replaced the toilet, it looked good.
However, trying to call to submit a claim was hard (going online was easy). It took me 25 to 30 minutes just trying to reach somebody, but it was pretty good when I was able to. Aside from the long wait during calls, they got a little pricier because I thought it was expensive every time somebody came out it was 75-dollar charge. I put in almost 50 bucks a month.
Also, when I called once before for my refrigerator, I thought that everything was fixed, but they didn't fix it. They just patched it up. A couple of months later, the seal of my refrigerator came back loose. I came back home from a trip and my food inside my house went bad. My insurance company couldn't carry that for me. But I tried to call back AHS but they told me I was gonna have to go back and do a new contract, so I was like "Forget it."
Hi Antoine, I do apologize for the delay with getting in touch with someone from our customer service department. It is our peak season so call volume is higher than normal. Please let me know if you are still in need of assistance. Thanks! ^CW

I have always been pleased with American Home Shield. I've used them for 25 years and I don't have any complaints against them. Generally, if there's ever a problem, they attend to it in a timely manner and take care of it. We worked through it and everybody was happy in the end. My only problem has been with the contract and I can't get them to reply. It says on the contract that they charge a sales tax, which was not passed in the state of Texas. I've never gotten anybody to get back to me and adjust that part off of the contract.

We live in Alabama, but my home is in Louisiana and we have had great experience with American Home Shield. They respond in a timely manner. They've been a godsend being that we can't be in the same state with our property. My husband was in the military for 25 years and one of our biggest issues is that we didn't want to move and leave our property without a warranty on it. And so we kept the warranty and it paid off because we know a lot of people that were in the military and had problems trying to manage their house without a warranty from a foreign country. Also, we've heard too many horror stories. People would pay property managers, even recognizable ones, like real estate companies and Handyman to take care of their property, and it would still be a pain in the butt.
It's been over two years now and we have not had to really have tons of stress over owning property out of state because American Home Shield has taken that burden off of us. And we can't just spring down there every time something's wrong. So when the tenants call us, we call American Home Shield, and they call the tenant and set everything up, and everything works pretty good. So when we do buy again, we will definitely get this company as our home warranty company. We had a couple of hiccups here and there, but nothing to where our tenants were really upset. I could only imagine if we didn't have them.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for an HPAC issue. We've had that issue for three different times in the last year with this house which we bought two years ago. The contractor was very good. It was a matter of time before the unit finally bites the dust but he was able to revive it and keep it working. I am very happy with him that's why I was trying to use him.
However, American Home Shield could improve on the service to the customer upon calling for repair. It took me 5 days and holding on line for an hour at a time to get a hold of a representative to okay using that contractor. I would wait on the line and then they would say they can't make the decision and a supervisor would have to do it. Then they would put me on hold again and transfer me, and the call would drop. I would then have to stay on the line for another hour to get a representative and go back through it again.
It was terrible and aggravating. Although we got it taken care of and I finally got to where I needed to go, it took a week and hours at a time for myself. And it's the time I'm employed, and luckily, I was off that week. I spent every freaking day of my my week off doing that. It was horrible and I wasn't happy. It's very frustrating. If there was an easier way for me to keep using the same AC guy or the same plumber, I'll be a whole lot happier. We have to keep trying new vendors and sometimes they're not good.

I have had an ongoing claim with American Home Shield for our refrigerator. The contractors have been great. They're very polite. They do call their GE engineers when they don't know what to do. I'm not an electrical person, but the technicians are really good. The scheduling team is pretty good. They call me and give me different times. However, it's extremely time-consuming and frustrating working with AHS. Whenever I had tried to call to schedule, it was not quick. It's unacceptable that I have been on hold from anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour. I understand it's no emergency but 45 minutes to an hour? I have talked to them multiple times now and obviously, they are really busy. They need more customer service people. I've been hearing them and then I get disconnected or get transferred to the wrong department. It's been not a very good experience.
The refrigerator is about 7 or 8 years old and the GE technician has come in at least 5 times. We have had to bend over backwards to get them in our schedule to have them come in and service the refrigerator. They have changed 4 different parts and still it's not working. We're at a complete loss on what to do. We're frustrated in spite of all the time commitment and scheduled changes that we have done to accommodate them. We don't have a functioning refrigerator, and AHS just keeps saying "Oh we'll call them again and have them come again." Since the repair the fridge might be performing a little better but the two major problems we have identified during the first service have not been fixed.

I called AHS because we had a faucet in the kitchen that from the time we bought the home was not working properly. No matter what we did and it didn't matter how we turned the faucet handle, we still got hot water. And it also leaked at the base. They contacted a local plumber who very promptly contacted us and made an appointment. He came over and took care of the problem. We had other issues, though, that we felt were a little more important so we took care of those first and then we took care of this last one. It was totally to our satisfaction and we had a new faucet put in.
The same plumber also helped us correct a couple of things in the home we sold and we moved into this one. We’re very happy with them. We also had to have some work done with our air conditioner right when heat came into our area. We did that before we worked on the faucet. Again, AHS pick the contractors – we’ve been in this town a long time so we knew AHS were picking good people to come and service us. We were very happy with that, too. We think we have everything corrected.

I called in a claim to American Home Shield a few months back to have my washing machine and dishwasher repaired. Prior to that claim, I had a not very good experience with the company that contracted the people out. So from that point forward, I decided that submitting the claim online was not the way to go. I had to call in to do it. The last claim that I had, the experience went well with Home Shield and the company they contracted. I called about 3 claims in since I've moved into my house in June, and each time the call wait has been over 10 minutes to get a representative. This time was no different but once I got an individual to speak with, they were very helpful and gave me the phone number, confirmation and the company that would be notifying me of the date and time they would be out.
My boyfriend was there to meet the contractor who was only there for about 10 minutes. The contractor did what he had to do and left. Since then, I've had no issues with either of the appliances. Everything went well. Overall, American Home Shield is a good warranty company, especially for a first time home buyer. Their rates are competitive. However, as far as customer service goes, one thing they could touch on is following up the claims better than just automated email.

Had a service ticket opened, since 09Aug, to fix exhaust fan. After the electrical contractor, Budget electric, scheduled a service apt, they did not show up. After I again called the contracting company, they scheduled for another day. The contractor showed up, took the $75 service fee, and said the unit needed to be replaced. He said they would schedule another apt., after they have the parts. Waited for over a month, but did not get a call back. So I again called up the contractor. The contractor showed up without any parts. He dismantled the unit, and left it in a disassembled state, and said would give a call back once he know when he can get the parts. Did not hear back, so called up the contractor again, and receptionist said she would contact the technician that visited our home, and call back.
Did not hear back, so called AHS, called them daily for almost a week, and each time was told that they are trying to get in touch with the contractor. Have still not received an ETA on when the repair will be made. And today, I noticed that, without my authorization, they renewed my contract, and charged my credit card. I had only authorized charging my credit card on a monthly basis for my existing contract, not to renew future contracts.

After I really got upset, they finally sent somebody over and they fixed it. Apparently it's fine after the repair. We had two very bad experiences and I have four homes under the American Home Shield plan.
I couldn't believe it because I know we had problems with one of the homes we have in South Carolina and they were super. The technicians that they sent were on time and did a great job. If something had to be replaced, they were there within the next couple of days, they have parts and replaced it. So on one hand, they did a great job, but not on the one in Philadelphia. My experience was still great, in general. I know they can't control some of the people that work for them or the people they contract to, but they took care of a lot of other problems that I had at different locations. I can't knock them out of the park just because of one.

They even offer me windows units to use until mines came in, although I have window units they didn't know, so I told them thanks.
When the blower came in Lane's came out and fixed the unit and he even cleaned the coils outside. One of my co-worker about a year ago told me about AHS and had it since. Having the policy from AHS is a form of savings when something breaks. However, how quick they can get someone to respond depends on the problem. But it's not their problem, it's whether the contractors can get to you immediately or you have to wait a week. But in my most recent case, I didn't have to wait. There was water leaking in my AC. Something had frozen and it was causing the water not to be able to go down into the pan. I submitted a claim and the AHS representatives helped me and I got quick service. He told me I would have to pay extra for it. Other than that, it was OK and I was satisfied.

Contractor analyzed the problem and ordered the part to repair. Part was sent via common carrier and follow up appointment by contractor was established and he was on time. Work completed, dryer repaired, very satisfied with the results.

I had a problem with the washer. I called them up and after two days the Magic Appliance came to check on it and they said, “Okay, we need to order some parts.” It was supposed to take five days and they told me that the ordered parts didn’t come yet so the days have already gone and nothing happened. I kept on calling here and there. I asked, “What is going on?” They said, “Yeah. We already have the part. But, I don’t have an appointment for you until Thursday or Friday.” That was Monday.
Then I said, “You know what? I’ve been waiting already for too long, so give me the first appointment in the morning.” Then they told me that the 5 PM is available so I said, “No. I have a doctor’s appointment. Nobody’s here. You got to accommodate me for a morning appointment. I cannot be leaving work and doing this and that and nobody is here. And I’m waiting.” So I had a bad experience with Magic Appliance and I told American Home Shield on that and I requested somebody else.
Then they sent me another company and the guy was very nice. He checked and he said, “You know what? There's one that is not good. I have to order a part. Probably two days.” But then, he called saying that they don’t have the part anymore. And so finally, talking with American Home Shield, they told me that there are no parts. Then they said, “We’re going to give you a new washer.” They asked how much they would get so I did go and buy a new one, something that I wanted and they're supposed to reimburse me the money. I didn’t have to wait for that long. Finally after a month, they took care of the problem with the washer.
I also called them before for the air conditioning and they came the following day. The guy knew what he was talking about, what he needed to do. He did it in about two hours and things worked. I’ve been with them for about 30 years now and they’re pretty reliable. Whoever they send, they always help me right away. But the washer this time, it was a mess and I was angry with the experience. Even though it happened, I do recommend them to friends. They’re good.

Our refrigerator was leaking on the inside so we put in a request to AHS online to have someone come out and take a look. I did have an issue when I tried to schedule with a third party because they were asking for some kind of code from AHS, which I didn't have and so I called AHS but they were able to resolve that fairly quickly. She got on the phone and I gave her the number of the third party and she put us on a conference call, and was able to give them the information they needed.
That was the first time I had ever had one of the vendors actually asking for a code but scheduling with AHS was easy and I really like being able to schedule online. Also, maybe AHS could tell us what we might need or what the contract might need from us. So for instance, not too long ago we had an issue with our washer and we didn't know until the contractor called to actually schedule that we would need the model and things like that. If we could put that on the AHS site right away, that might eliminate some time for the contractor. But other than that, we haven't had any problems.
The contractor that they sent for my refrigerator was great. When he came in, he was very neat and he cleaned up anything that was dripping down right away. Before he left, my house looked just like it was when he arrived. He was very personable and very knowledgeable because I had asked him some other questions about other refrigerators that we might purchase in the future and he was fantastic. Also, he got everything working and told us what we needed to do. And since the repair, I haven't had any problems at all. It's been good experience with AHS and I would recommend them.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was when I had my garage door fixed. Before that there was an issue with my dishwasher. Submitting a claim was fine. I just went online and indicated the issue that I had. One time I got a prompt response. But for my dishwasher it took a little while for someone to finally get back to me. That person wasn’t very good because several months later, I have to call them again and have some work done on my dishwasher. I was having problems with the water just sitting in the dishwasher and not flowing out.
When they put me through to Sears, it took a very long time for Sears to finally contact me. So I called American Home Shield. They reached out to Sears and I finally got an appointment. The Sears staff that came was quite good. He was very, very thorough and fixed the problem. They’re working fine since the repair. So it all worked out. Overall, I think it’s a good service. I like it. I would recommend a friend to American Home Shield. I had a convenient experience.

There was something wrong with the washing machine - water was splashing and there was water on the floor. American Home Shield responded fairly quickly with our claim but we were unhappy about the result. We were charged $75 but he didn't do anything. He was a very nice young man except his explanation was that it's an old machine and that's what they do, which I find hard to believe even though I'm not the original owner of this house.
He said the water just splashes over the tub and it's been doing it for some time and there's nothing you really can do about it but live with it. When he left, he forgot to pick up the check. We just assumed he figured "Well, I really didn't do anything." But they did call and asked for it the next day. It seems like you call and you got insurance, and they don't do anything about it. The machine's very old, and probably there's no parts. I'm living with it for the time being and I just got a towel on the floor. It's a little disappointing that it couldn't be fixed.

One time, they said they'll fix our outdoor fan so they sent a guy and it cost us $75, only to find out they don't fix outdoor fans. They didn't do it now even if they've done it before. There was also another time where we were charged another $75 for something they didn't cover. So they tell us they’d cover but once the contractor gets here and they submit it, they just deny it. AHS costs almost $60 a month. We're retired and I can do a lot with almost $800 a year and repair our own stuff. Our air conditioning and heater are old, they'll just keep trying to repair it and charge us service charges. I understand that they'll limp it along and not give us a new one or help us with the cost of a new one. So I don't know what we're gonna do.

We like American Home Shield or we wouldn't have got it this time. Everything is really good with them. When we lived in Bend a few years ago, we had a trash compactor that broke. They came out and finally, on the third time, they said they didn't know what to do, so they ended up putting a motor in it. That was a better motor than what was in ours which was a heavier motor. Then we used them on our microwave when we lived in Bend and that was a brand new house too.
So when we sold our house in Bend last December, we told the people that bought our house, "You need to get this warranty because it's really good and it covers everything." We've been trying to tell our kids how they should. They've been in the house up here since 2005 and they have replaced the dishwasher three times and the washing machine twice. That's ridiculous. My daughter buys one that's not a really good quality, trying to save money, but I keep telling her it's worth it to go ahead and get a good one to start with.

Our refrigerator went out recently and American Home Shield was wonderful. But we were not satisfied with Sears, their service provider, because it took them three weeks to get out here and assessed that they had to order a part. It was going to be four weeks more before they could come and put the part in. That was unacceptable. I got on the phone with American Home Shield and they also agreed that that was not acceptable and sent a repairman out here and fixed our refrigerator in three days. I was more than happy with that. We also had a problem with our garage door and my husband took care of that one. The contractor did above and beyond. Not only did he fix the garage door, he tightened it up, did all kinds of extra assorted things and tuned up my whole garage door and the opener. And it works great.
I'm keeping American Home Shield. It's just sometimes it's a little hard to get hold of them. When the refrigerator went out, I immediately went online and reported it but when I followed up with a phone call the next morning, they had not gotten the online request. However, I've had a recent issue with my septic system and it took three phone calls with American Home Shield to actually clarify what was the problem. The service company that they tried to send out was willing to come out and take my hundred dollars, but he actually did not know anything about the type of system I had so I had to make several phone calls. That was the only downside to it but my other experience with them had been fine. AHS is responsive and fast. I used them for a while for maintenance for my air conditioner and furnace. I would recommend them if somebody had a need for their service. AHS offer a good service, if a person is looking for a program that would help them with what they're trying to accomplish for maintaining their household appliances.

The interactions with the technicians were good and satisfactory, but the quality of work they did with my Kenmore washer is deplorable. They would come out and repair it, and then the next 3 months, it would break down again. So that necessitated me paying another service charge. I was also not advised until after my Sears call that I could’ve had Kenmore come out to service the washer. Then they told me I would have to wait 3 weeks before Kenmore could come out to service the washer. But I don't need that so I waited 2 weeks and decided to buy a new washer.

I have one experience with American Home Shield that happened a few years ago that was looked into. I had a hot water heater not warming and the people that were recommended replaced the hot water heater and charged me $80 to remove the old one. The guy put it in and then in the end, "Hey, you owe me $80 to take the old one out". I think you have a standard American Home Shield service call fee which I paid. And I didn't want it in the basement so I paid $80, so that service call cost me about $160, because I paid the 75 plus the 80.
When they made the appointment to replace it, nobody told me then that there'll be an $80 carry out fee. That's all that I'm pissed off about. But, it's my fault I didn't get right on it right then. I should've called American Home Shield. Also, the service fee keeps going up. I was recommending them to a friend and they're paying the same rate I'm paying. We totally understand that. I'm in tears and it has to do with American Home Shield and the people who are trying to do what they're supposed to. The problem has been going on for about 4 weeks. When I called on Labor Day, two service people were sent out. They said that they would have to order parts. They returned about 5 days later and appeared to be replacing the parts and doing their job. I checked on them periodically to see what they were doing and everything seemed to be all right. It was Friday at about 4, I turned around to ask a question and they were gone. They did the equipment but they did not do a test to see if it would work.
I had to go somewhere for 30 minutes and when I came back home, I knew I had problem. The pool was emptying out and I did not know what was going on. I quickly went to the pool house and turned the machine off. There was a white line showing in the pool. I called my son and he came over. Evidently, when the two men were working on the other problem, they knocked the hose loose so the pressure is on and water is coming out of the pool. I called in and the representative said she would send somebody out. I said, "Do not send those two people, send somebody else," which she did.
The technician and I looked at the pool and we decided that my son had done a fairly good job in taking care of the problem. The technician went inside his truck and I went back in the house. I was cleaning up in my bedroom, I looked out the window and there's water coming out of the pool again. So, I ran out to the truck, knocked on it, and I said, "Come on. It started again." He came and saw that it was separated and we're getting all this flood again. He turned the equipment off and he replaced the coupling on the Polaris. It was supposed to take care of the problem. I was at where I got my chemical and was talking to the guy there. He said, "When the spider which is on top of the big tank with the sand in it goes bad and you have a leakage, it could be a bad gasket." I said, "Okay, that's good. I'll call them back and tell them."
I called them up and told them to check the spider. They sent somebody out and he took the top part off, brought it to me, and said, "Yes, this is bad. Gasket's gone, I have to get another piece." I said, "Okay," and he left. The next day when he came back, we were walking towards my pool and I heard the motor was running. It doesn't have the top part because he's got it. I told him, "Listen, it's running." Now, again, my pool is putting all this water out into the yard. He turned it off and put the top on. He said, "I don't have the right screws. I'm going to put the same screws back. I'll bring you some new screws." He explained the possibility of it being underground to me. I accept that but everything that I'm trying to do to test on gets screwed up - not leaving the water in for a certain amount of time and see how long it takes to go down, etc.
After more than a week, I decided I'd call the lady up. She kept saying it's probably on the ground. I asked for their basis but I didn't get an answer. I do understand that American Home Shield is responsible for the equipment and not the fact that they have to find out what the leakage is, but I still think that I can ask what their basis is because that's another thing. I called yesterday and asked her, "Okay, where do we stand with American Home Shield? What do I do? Do you have a contract? Do I have to sign something?" She said, We don't do leaks. We don't have that kind of equipment." I said, "That's not what I'm talking about. I know you don't. Exactly what does it cover? What do you tell American Home Shield? Where do I stand?" I also told her, "By the way, the guy never did change the screws. I haven't seen him." "Oh," she says, "Well, I'll get in touch with him."
The guy called earlier today and said, "I have your screws." He was not happy with me, he was very angry and I was angry, too, to a certain extent. He said "I'm here to put the screws in." I said, "Okay." I went with him, he put the screws in, packed his little bag, got on his truck, and left. I had company and as they left, I decided I would go out and check the pool, the pool house, and the equipment. He turned the winterizer on and not filter which was wrong so there is no PSI pressure on the gauge. The water level is going down and it's leaking again. Now, I don't know if I should turn the filter on. I've lost water and my water bill must be atrocious. I'm not satisfied. The job is not complete.

I started with American Home Shield in '86 and I have renewed it every year. One negative experience several years ago was when they sent an AC person out and they did not do the drainage part correctly. It leaked through my upstairs ceiling and it cost me over $800 to have it fixed. I was not pleased with that but other than that, they normally do a good job because now I have learned to select the people who come to my house. I'm not letting some technicians come when they don't know what they're doing.

One of the water pipes broke in one of the bedrooms, and it flooded the ceiling and bed so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. The plumber that they contracted came out, cut a hole in it, found the leak, and fixed it. He was very professional, always on time, and when he said that they had to order a part, he called me when the item arrived and asked when he could come and put it in. He even gave me the part that sprung a leak so I could at least show it to the insurance company in case they wanted to see it. However, we had to go to our homeowner’s insurance to pay for the redoing of the ceiling since AHS didn't cover that part. Other than that, I’d recommend AHS to anyone.

Over the last year, I have had difficulties getting qualified technicians on my rental properties in Gloucester and Williamsburg, VA. Generally, I do not receive a call from the service provider or they call to schedule appointment and do not show up. I have to make repeated calls and then contact AHS to contact the service provider. I had service provider come for the initial visit but never returned calls or returned for repair. I have made 4-5 attempts (emails/calls) to get AHS to remove the service charge for that visit from my account. As of today, it is still on my account.
I made a call on Monday for a rental unit in Gloucester. After two days I hadn't heard from provider. I contacted him and he indicated he hadn't been a service provider for months (he had never been paid for his services except for the service fees paid by customers). I contacted AHS on Wednesday to notify them of the problem. They indicated they would remove him from the list and assign another provider to my service request. It is 3 days later, I've not heard back from AHS. I decided to put in another service request online and was assigned the same service provider. The service provided by AHS has deteriorated over the last year. It appears they are unable to get qualified service providers.

Called 3 months ago to open a claim for a plumber, they sent out an AC repairman. Called again, they sent out a plumber to replace a toilet that had cracked. Covered on our policy, he said that he had to order a toilet and would call when it came in. One week later, he called and said American Home Shield would not cover the toilet but he would replace it for $350.00. We call AHS back and asked for a second opinion, they are telling us the crack is not normal wear and tear yet my toilet is porcelain which means it is from the glass family and a small chip can cause a run.
They did send out another company. Same thing, he would replace it himself for $350.00. We asked AMS to written notice as to why they would not repair a covered item. 3 months later, we still have not received notification as to why they will not repair an item covered under our policy. They are able to mail us invoices requesting their $75.00 fee, that type of mail they can certainly send out but not a claim denial that is a covered item. We had the toilet replaced for $150.00, such a small claim for a large company to pay out.
Hi Jane, we are sorry for this experience. Our records due show that the toliet was denied coverage and also a second opinion was ran. The second opinion shows that it as well was denied. We had family visiting from out of town and sewer stopped up, this was on Sunday. The quickest the service company could get there was the next day at 7:00 am. I rented a sewer clean out from Home Depot and fixed it myself. The root cause was a broken pipe on the cleanout, which means just a matter of time before it stops up again. I called American Home Shield to let them know it was fixed but they were already closed, so I took off work the next day to meet the plumber and show the broken pipe. They called before they came out and I told them the sewer was now working but the cleanout pipe was broken so they said they would still look at it to see what needed to be done. They looked at it and took pictures and said they didn't think that repair would be covered but would send it in and I still owe the $100 deductible. I said if there was no work done I would not pay.
Now AHS sent me a bill for the $100. I continue the warranty after the first year from buying the house, unfortunately I used a credit card and it automatically renewed another year before I remembered to stop it. After all of this I am cancelling it ASAP. I have had some repairs done in the past using them, about 50% worked out good. The problems are the response time on emergency items and they keep trying to repair items that really need replaced. Save your money on buying warranty, then use with good service agents when needed.

There was one time in which we were billed by the vendor as well but when I pointed it out to them, they corrected it quickly and without any problems.
We only had one time with our washing machine where the guy had to come back three times. He didn't have the part the first time, they sent the wrong part the second time, and the third time, he brought it in and fixed it. So I was a little unhappy because I had to take off work 3 times but he got it working and they were nice about it, and I didn't get charged for the second or the third time. So he was very quick to determine that it needed to be replaced and he did it right then and there.
We're relatively satisfied with AHS. I don't think we've had anything of a serious nature like an AC requirement and we do a routine service because we're out here in the desert. We had a plumbing issue with the sinks plugged up in the kitchen so I called American Home Shield. Getting a name of someone that would be coming out was easy, but the problem was that they couldn’t come out until the following Monday and it was Wednesday. We just brought my daughter’s baby home from the hospital, so I called AHS back and asked if we could use a different company that might be able to come out sooner, and the rep wasn’t able to do that. She said that with my contract, the company has to give them 48 hours before they can use a different one, so I ended up paying for a private company to unplug the drain.
We also had a fan that went out and an AC problem. The AC people that came to fix it took a long time to come out too. Days went by, and they came and sprayed a sealant in the unit due to a possible leak. It lasted only for about six days, then they came again and said it needed a new coil since there was a leak in it. It was bad timing because it was right before a holiday weekend, and it took a week before we got our AC restored. I had to buy a tiny air conditioning unit that’s portable since my daughter has preeclampsia so it was a high risk pregnancy, and I hated it. However, the first time when we had a fan incident, it was a good experience since everybody that AHS sent out was nice, on time, and they ended up replacing my fan because they were not able to fix it even though they tried, but the two major problems I had (AC unit, plumbing issue) didn’t work out as well.

I had a busted faucet and it was leaking, so I needed it to be replaced. I had a diagnosis done and already knew what the problem was. When I called American Home Shield, they advised me that they don’t cover it, and I said “Okay”, but I had already set it up over the phone. When the contractor called, I told him that it’s not covered, but I only needed the faucet replaced since I already know what the leak was. So he came out and replaced the faucet which I bought at Home Depot. I paid him $95 because I thought it was off contract - I didn’t realize anything different. I thought I was asking the contractor to do the job as a plumber, not part of American Home Shield.
So a few days later, I received a billing mail from American Home Shield for $75. When I asked them what the bill was for, they responded with, “Well, you have to pay for the contract” that I used. They said because I used the contractor that called the house, I had to pay them $75 in addition to the $95. We went back and forth on it, and I didn’t understand the rationale for that because to me I paid twice and they continued to tell me I had to pay the bill. American Home Shield have direct access to my account, so I imagined that they took the money out of my account because I no longer received another bill. That didn't make me feel very well. My husband could’ve changed it and that could’ve saved the problem because he did start to change it but he had to go to work and I need my kitchen. It cost me almost an additional $100 for no reason.
This is the first incident that I had a problem with American Home Shield. It was just a fluke, and they’ve always been great to me. I've been with them for three years now and I'd still recommend them.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield because my water heater went out. Submitting the claim wasn't a problem, but the first company that they sent out told me that they couldn't get the water heater safely out of the attic. I live in Texas and the water heaters in our homes are up in the attic. I mentioned to him that that was the second water heater that's been in this house, so obviously the first person was able to get it out and put a new one in. He wasn't able to repair it but I still paid a service charge of $125.
I called American Home Shield about it and they said I needed to get a second opinion. So they sent a different company out and the young man was very nice. He said that he and his partner could get the work done and we scheduled a day for them to do it. But he told me that they had to put a different type of water heater in because the one that was up there was called a 50-gallon short and he said that they needed to put a 50-gallon tall in. I questioned why and he said it would have to do with the fact that the new 50-gallon shorts are wider than the old ones and it wouldn't fit up there. I certainly understood this so I agreed for them to put the tall in.
Unfortunately, American Home Shield only pays for the water heater and a few other things. They had to configure a lot of stuff up there, so bottom line it cost me 600 bucks of my own money plus the service charge that I had already paid to get the new water heater put in. And it took a week to complete everything. I'm a realtor and I've had some good experiences with American Home Shield. In fact, when we bought this house we took an American Home Shield warranty and absolutely loved it even if it was a little bit more expensive than the rest of them. I went with another company before to save a few dollars and it was a nightmare. So I went back to American Home Shield. This year I've filed three claims with them where two have been nightmares and one has been okay.

I've had Home Shield for about 20 years. I had them in Texas and I have them here again. I've never had a problem with them. Submitting a claim is easy and effortless. The most recent one that I had was when I needed some Freon for the air conditioner. The contractor put it in and that took care of the problem.

My experience with American Home Shield has been great. The latest claim I made had something to do with my air conditioner. My wife called them and they got somebody out here who checked it. Then they came back to complete the repair. It did take him about a week to get back, but aside from that, I have no problems with AHS and the AC system all summer. I've recommended American Home Shield to several people I know.

I made my decision to purchase a "combo" systems and appliances warranty from AHS on the basis of the reviews I read on this site and I can tell you that something is wrong. At this point I'm pretty irritated and I'd like to explain why: I have spent at least 6 hours on the phone with AHS at this point (totaling well over a dozen calls) and boy do they take their time to respond. My last call was exactly 2 hours and 26 painful minutes of which I was on hold for probably 95 % of that time before I finally had to hang up and decided it would be more than fair to write a review. It's really frustrating and disrespectful to tell people "I'm just going to put you on hold for a minute," only to leave someone hanging up or stall you to the point where you give up. If you ask for a supervisor their strategy is to just put you on hold indefinitely. Read on...
Here's what's happened: A major problem was discovered with my furnace and the technician (not from AHS) said for liability reasons that he would have to shut the furnace off. He also informed me that I'd have to call the gas company so I did and he also agreed (guy from the gas company) that there were issues so he actually had to shut off the gas line to the house for liability reasons as he explained. My next step was to contact AHS (for the first time to have them fix it). I informed them at that time that I no longer have gas to heat the house, or to cook and I'd appreciate them sending someone soon.
The first contractor AHS sent was entirely clueless and said someone else would need to come to make a "further diagnosis." This was after I paid him my deductible of course. The second guy (despite multiple calls to the contractor and AHS) did not come until three days later and while he 'appeared' to know more he was basically rude, lacking the tools he needed to properly confirm/make repairs and clearly not up to the job. Apparently, AHS doesn't care about the quality of the contractors they hire. In the meantime, I've had to speak with two private contractors (people I got through personal contacts) who clearly explained the problem and also showed evidence of the issue via a camera tool that they inserted into the furnace to show what was damaged.
Yes! - I've gone to pains to explain all of this to AHS again and again and this is the predicament I find myself in. I'm now going on 7 days without heat, hot water or a stove (it runs on gas too) so I will quite literally have to move home or hire someone and pay out of pocket to fix the problem. After I submit this review I'm going to call the Virginia Insurance Corporation to make a complaint and the better business bureau.
Here's my advice. Do yourself a big favor and do not do business with this company. All they do is stall and stall and stall only to send incompetent contractors. If I could give them a lower rating I most definitely would and they would certainly deserve it. The fact of the matter is that they really don't care despite the fact that it is an obvious priority that has already been clearly diagnosed. Now you've got the full story. My advice - save yourself the warranty cost and use it toward repairs to your house as they come.
Hi Joshua, we are sorry to hear about this delay and we would like to help! We will assign a case manager to your claim who will follow up with you directly! Thanks!

They repair it, but my only complaint is that we're talking about 15 service calls. Making a claim with American Home Shield was an easy process. My only concern is how many times they have to come out on an appliance. I was going to call them today because I've had Freons recharged this year and last year and it's not the norm. It seems to indicate a leak but they fill it and then go. This has been a problem and I wanted to talk to them about it because there's no reason for me to recharge that AC unit in 2 years in a row. That doesn't sound right. Other than that, the folks they send out are always different. I understand that the agencies rotate and I just want to make sure that they're getting top quality so we'll have top quality as well.

I like to be able to talk to somebody about what's happening, not just punching buttons and hitting submit. My experience with them has been usually good, but right now, it's not going well. They were supposed to be getting in touch with the plumber. We did it for weeks. I tried to call them yesterday, and they said they were going to connect me with somebody because the person had already been to the property and nothing has happened yet. I couldn't tell if the call connected so I waited on hold. Usually, they'd give advice and nothing's happening so I hung up, called the plumber and left a message. Air conditioner broken... again. Previous experiences with the contractor sent out from AHS in the past was miserable. They were incompetent, rude and irresponsible. So we told AHS we didn't want that particular contractor to work on our A/C again. This contractor was apparently the ONLY one locally that worked for AHS. One of the customer service people was nice enough to QUIETLY tell me "You know, if we don't have someone in your area, you can pick your own contractor, pay for it yourself and AHS will reimburse you." I asked her when someone was going to tell me that and she said, "We don't normally offer that information." REALLY? I have been a customer with AHS for over 10 years and they weren't going to tell me that?
Ok, fast forward. I found out from AHS what they needed to make this happen. They said they would issue a dispatch number, I would find my own contractor who needed to estimate the job and call it in before he began the work and they would give him an authorization number. Done, done and done. I mailed in the receipts with my name, address, dispatch number, authorization number, phone number, etc. AHS has returned the invoices to the contractor stating they cannot locate the customer!! I called AHS and got two rude customer service reps who said they couldn't help me. Sounds like a game to me -- the old runaround to keep from reimbursing me the $494 minus $75 deductible they owe me. Once this is over, I will be canceling my policy.

There is one thing that needs to get addressed. I didn’t get a discount. My sister didn’t get it either because she doesn’t have a computer and I feel that’s unfair. I’m 59 years old, I’m old school. Not everybody wants a computer and not everybody’s computer literate. AHS needs to take that into consideration. Other than that, AHS is very good and I'm satisfied with them. We've been relatively happy with American Home Shield. It's been 30 plus years but it is difficult when someone has anything to do with plumbing. If they want to send people from out of our area up to the High Desert, they try to triple charge. I've had to tell a couple of the people to go away and to not keep our name in anything because to fix a little broken pipe in the kitchen, they wanted to tear my entire kitchen apart and put in new cabinets, upper, lower, etc. It would only cost about $100 to fix it but the contractor wanted to charge us over 1,600. Prices in the High Desert are different than down below which we call LA. They're ridiculous. I've gotten to the point where if I have a plumbing problem, I will call a direct plumber and not even mess with them. They argue with me and say, "No, that's who's next on our list." I tell them to forget it because I'm not doing it. Other than the plumbing issue, we're happy with it.
