First contractor did not show. Second contractor came out and for 2 weeks I called to get the results and finally had to have AHS call and he said he doesn't service ductless heat pumps. AHS sent out first guy and said he does service ductless heat pumps. He walked in and said they said nothing to him about it being ductless and he doesn't service it. Called AHS and told we could get our own contractor and if approved, we would be reimbursed our out of pocket cost. I asked if there was something in writing about the process and told no. Got a contractor who gave an estimate and told they had to call AHS. They did and AHS was very rude and told our contractor she did not know what she was talking about and so she gave the call to her boss. AHS said he has to tell them the cause of the problem and he went into the technical issues and AHS kept saying he wasn't saying the cause and the conversation went nowhere.
I called AHS and was bounced around and put on hold about 1/2 hour and finally gave the phone to my husband who was then bounced around for 2 hours and given the same script over and over and told there was nobody else he could talk as no manager was available nor would be available. No additional information except AHS needs to know the "cause" which was given over and over by our contractor. We asked our contractor to call AHS back and now it will take a few days as he is not real motivated to be treated unprofessionally again. So, after 2 months, taking 3 days off from work, we are still at ground zero with AHS and very unhappy customers.
Hello Beth, I apologize for any inconvenience and regret the experience that you have had. I will schedule a case manager to contact you soon.

American Home Shield is very good and it's easy to submit a claim. My husband was in the day their contractor came and everything went smoothly then. Our AC is working well now. The only thing that bothers me is when you live in a very hot state and your air condition goes, they would tell you they can't come until the next day. They really should try to make it within a couple of hours where people live in hot states that are ridiculous. They should hire people who could do that. They're asking somebody to wait an entire day or night before they can fix the AC and that's not comfortable. They need to change that.

Been a customer of American Home Shield for almost 20 years. Many disputes over their making repairs, but usually they came through with satisfactory results - after the fight! Last week, instead of requesting a repair online, I telephoned the request so that I could make sure the item was covered under my policy (had an exterior leaky faucet). I was not allowed to talk to a "live person", but explained in detail what the problem was. The next thing I know, there was a call from a plumber who said he was in the area and would be by in 30 minutes. I told him what the problem was.
When he arrived, he looked at the faucet and said he would have to call the company to make sure it was covered. That alarmed me as I could not understand why they were here if it was not covered. He said that was what they did and if it was not covered, I would still owe the $75 fee. He called the company and came to the door and said it was not covered, but that he could fix it for $295. I slammed the door in his face and called the company and cancelled my membership. This is a terrible scam from a company I have recommended to hundreds of people in the past (I was a top producing realtor for over 30 years and made a practice of giving a membership to AHS as a gift to new homeowner). DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS COMPANY!!!
Hello Nancy I sincerely apologize about your experience with your service. I do regret the experience that you have had.

I'd recommend American Home Shield. I called my claim in and went through prompts which went very smoothly. Then they called 30 minutes before the time frame and the repair was done well. It was just like a friend coming over which is very nice. Also, there's follow up or there's some surveys. There are call backs to make sure things are fine. There were no issues and everything was very professional. I've even renewed with American Home Shield for next year.

I called about my dishwasher and American Home Shield came out right away. The guy was a gentleman, very professional and nice to deal with. He had to come back because he had to get a part. He came back within a couple of days and fixed it. It's working fine. Also, the woman I talked to was very helpful and she scheduled this so, it was a very good experience. I would recommend them and I've already told other people. I have a girlfriend who has gone through American Home Shield. She did not know she was able to do that, and she's very pleased.

My water heater was the reason I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. A nice gentleman from AHS processed my claim, and ever since the repair was done, I haven't had any problems with my heater. They gave me a new hot water tank. Overall, I know that AHS has always been good and my experiences with them have been great. They've been prompt, although a long time ago when my air conditioner went out, that took a while, but that's normal. They're great, and if they weren't, I would have searched for someone else.

I've only had one claim with American Home Shield. I had a bit of trouble with my air conditioning and they called me immediately, first thing the next morning, and got everything done very quickly and well. It has been fine since the repair. I was asked, "Why did you choose Home Shield?" My answer was because everything is old in this place that I just bought. I can't expect things to last forever but if AHS can hold it together to last a few more months, that'll be fine with me until they have to be replaced. I don't have great expectations but it's still working very well.

My washing machine went out and couldn't be repaired so AHS gave me another one. In the 10 years that I've had their policy, the only problem I've ever had was when my dryer was not working and AHS sent out a repairman from Sears who said he wasn't licensed so he could not touch the machine, but I still paid $85. He gave me some suggestions what I could do, but it's something that I did, not him. However, I wouldn't have known unless he came, so I'm truly satisfied. A year ago, AHS sent out a gas company and they found out that my furnace was emitting bad air so I had to get a new furnace. AHS was Johnny-on-the-spot, somebody came out and put one in right away. I wouldn't have AHS if I wasn't satisfied with their service.

American Home Shield has an easy claims submission. Anytime that my husband had to call over anything, it's never been an issue. Someone always responds. Someone comes the next day, and if that's not possible, then as soon as possible they come. And people that have represented Home Shield, like the plumbers, are always very considerate, very polite. Recently, our hot water tank went out. It was just the flame thing that went out, and it was back up and going within minutes. They don't sit and dally around like some people do. They come in, do their job, and go. I'd highly recommend American Home Shield as they do efficient and outstanding work.

The last time I called AHS during the summer when our air conditioning unit wasn't working, I was on hold for 45 minutes. No one ever came to the phone so I got off the phone and put my claim in on the computer. I got a quick response online but I didn't like the idea of holding for 45 minutes. I prefer using the telephone as opposed to doing it by computer and a lot of times I don't have access to a computer. Everything else was excellent including the performance of the air conditioner since the repair. The service was great.

I called American Home Shield recently about my pool plumbing and their claims process was extremely easy. Their technician called me back within an hour and got out of here the same day. By the end of the week, it was taken care of. I've also spoken to one AHS representative about my previous policy and that was because the technicians weren't getting my trash compactor fixed. As soon as I got in touch with an AHS representative, I had a specialist that took care of it and it was taken care of and done within two weeks. They got me a new one. Everything was very good. I recommend American Home Shield all the time to anybody I know that has any problem with anything. I have nothing but good experience with them. I was with them for the first year that I moved here and I renewed with them, and now I'm moving again once I get my place built and after the initial warranty is over, I'm definitely calling back.

I called American Home Shield because we were having trouble with the air conditioning unit. I told them I was having problems. I requested service and they immediately told me they would contact someone and that they would get back in touch with me. In just a couple of hours, D&G called me and scheduled an appointment for somebody to come by. He came by the very next day and was very professional. On the day of the appointment they called before they came to the house to let me know that they were on their way. He came in, looked at it, discovered what the problem was and took care of it. He told me that the service visit was good for 30 days and said if I have any additional problems with it within that time, that there would be no additional service fee. My unit has been fine since the repair. It was a very good experience.

I had a problem with some of my pool equipment. I called in a service request with American Home Shield and it was fulfilled by Summit Pool. They came out initially and did an evaluation as to what needed to be done. They determined that a multiport was defective, but they didn't have it on their truck. It would have to be ordered which would take a number of days and they told me approximately how long it would be.
We made a tentative appointment, they said that they would coordinate with their scheduler to firm up the appointment date and they collected the $75 service fee which is what's under my contract. They were very professional. They called me in advance to coordinate the schedule and they sent me an email. I got everything with a confirmation number and points of contact. They followed up with the service appointment, gave me an estimate and what was going to be done and the work was done per the schedule that we set up. They were on time, cleaned up and there wasn't any problem after the work was done. They were very courteous in both appointments and everything was all done very professionally. I would certainly use AHS and Summit Pool again. I've been very satisfied with the work they have done.

I've had a problem with the heat pump of our air conditioning. Apparently, one of the fans was either powered up in some way but it was making a high pitched noise that went on and on. AHS contacted a very helpful company for the job. Instead of jumping out here and giving me a hundred dollar bill for nothing, the contractor simply called to figure out what was going on with the heat pump. He worked the problem through. He said he'd keep a ticket open and if that hadn't resolved the problem he'd come, but no more help was needed. He was great, just like the first contractor I've had from AHS before.
The first contractor was sent for a problem with the water pump in the water well. The guy came out and found out there was an undersized breaker in the panel outside the house that had been installed. He replaced the breaker and checked things out. He was very professional and we are pleased to have had him. I'd recommend AHS to others. Their contractors have been very good.

Submitting the claim for the air conditioning was easy to do. I put the claim in, got my confirmation number, and received a phone call within a day from the guy setting up the appointment. When the contractor came out, I asked some questions about what was going on and he explained things to me. In a prior visit almost a year ago, the fan had to be replaced and I used American Home Shield for it - they came out, and did the fans. The contractor told me that during that visit a year ago, they probably should’ve taken and done the capacitor at that time also, because the two capacitors were not in sync. One was on its way out, and the other one was gone already, but they should’ve done both of them. But I can understand it, and I was satisfied with the interaction with the contractors that American Home Shield sent out. After the repair, the air conditioning is performing well, and so far, American Home Shield has met my expectations.

The ceiling in our garage fell and all I wanted was to have it checked out to make sure that it was not damaged. I had also submitted a claim for the fan vents in our two bathrooms, and I wanted to pay them rather than just getting the information on the garage door opener. The one that came out last time for the garage door opener didn't like that idea, and he wanted me to pay him $75. They wanted the insurance company to call them or they were going to call the insurance company and talk to them about it. That's the only thing I've had that is negative so I would definitely recommend AHS.

My dishwasher went out so I went online and American Home Shield didn't have my brand of dishwasher so I clicked "other." It went through the automated process and they ended up selecting a service provider that didn't service ASKO which was a pain. I had to call them and do it manually and that made me go jump through hoops to get it done. The contractor was good. Since it was ASKO, they had to order the parts and that took a week but they did good work, got here on time and fixed it right. It's working now.

Normally we don't have any problems with American Home Shield; however, there was a delay in our most recent claim with them. It was about a blocked toilet. We got sidetracked for about three days and I had to give them another ring to make sure that the plumber would be notified. It turned out someone made a mistake and had forgotten to pass a message. It was a communication problem between AHS and the plumber. It might have been the plumber's fault. But that same morning that I rang, the plumber contacted us straight away within ten minutes. He drove down our house within half an hour, sorted it all out, and that was done within an hour. It's been fine since then. On the whole, though, it has been an excellent experience for us with American Home Shield.

The furnace was making a loud noise so I submitted a claim online. It was easy except for the fact that it was a repeat issue and there was nowhere to indicate that online so I ended up having to pay twice. It's an ongoing issue because the furnace part is fixed but their contractor said that there was some pipe leaking now because of what was happening with the furnace. And the plumber was gonna have to come out but I have a problem with the plumber. They sent the same plumber a few times and they do a terrible work. So I didn't want them and I can't get through to anybody else.
I called to get a refund for that double payment and American Home Shield wont give it to me. My biggest issue is not being able to speak to anyone at customer service. I called and asked for a manager and the manager took 4 days to call me back and then never left a phone number for me to get a hold of her. If I can't get a hold of a manager or somebody who's in charge to explain the further circumstance of what happened, I don't think it's worth it. They double charge me and then they want to have another charge for the plumber to come out. I'm not gonna pay $300 for something that's supposed to be covered by my warranty. So, at this point, seeing that I'm gonna have to double pay for it and I don't seem to be able to get my money back, I would not recommend them to anyone at all.
Hello Rebecca, I appreciate the time you have taken to make us aware of this experience. Our records indicate that a HVAC company has came out and did work on your unit and did request that a plumber needs to come to your home. The contract does state there is a service fee per trade, since the plumbing is a seperate issue/trade than the HVAC there would be an additional service fee. I do understand the frustration with this and if you are still in need of assistance please let me know. Thanks! ^CW

He called Home Shield and Home Shield said "We do not cover it" and so he left. He was very polite and professional. The problems that we have experienced with American Home Shield are a little bit prohibiting. One, its extremely hard to get through to somebody. If we want to cancel an appointment because something came up or we wont be physically present at the time that the service man has sent out, there's no way. It takes 45 minutes, sometimes they put you on hold. We've been on hold for a very long time and there's no way to cancel or adjust an appointment once its been cancelled. They're somewhat responsive online to file a complaint but if anything else needs to be addressed about it, you need to speak to a person that's extremely difficult to get through. That's the most significant thing that we've been experiencing.
The second thing that we've experienced is that one service person that we've experienced so far has said that they were licensed to work on something so we requested to American Home Shield that they don't send that service person. And that service person contacted us personally and there was little bit of harassment. That service person is related to another service person that they tried to send us. So it got to be like very uncomfortable situation in our home. And then, to say that we didn't want that person to come to our house was a very big deal.
They shouldn't have done that. It is dangerous in our part. They know where we live. They know the information. We felt that was really not ethical for them to do that. And then the people that we said we didn't want to come, filed the bill saying that they came for a service call which they did not. So, that was disputed. But they won. We ended up having to pay for them. Cause we had another issue and they wouldnt send another person out to fix another issue without that getting paid. It showed up as a balance. So we paid it.
With regards to the repairs, everybody else that they have sent has come promptly and we do benefit from having American Home Shield. We want to absolutely continue the service and we think its a wonderful thing. The problems are quite frustrating and I hope that American Home Shield can work through some of that. Whether they hire more operators or just a little, but should be more careful about some of the complaints. Or even put a place to file the complaints on the website, that might be a little more interactive. We have recommended them to a lot of people. Just hoping they could straighten out the communication issue cause I know several people have had that same problem.

I had a problem with my furnace under the house so American Home Shield sent a company and the guy crawled under there and came out with more excuses than a pregnant nun. “Oh, it’s flooded.” “Oh, your duct lines have been knocked down.” That doesn’t have anything to do with anything but that’s what they said. “We’ve got to send another guy.” So another guy came down, said they have to order a part and disappeared. Then came the third guy, and said “Oh my god, it’s flooded and it’s all terrible. I can’t work.” So I called them up and I told them and they sent a guy down from Oxford. Oddly enough, the company that finally got the furnace running asked me if one of the companies was named Oxford and I said yes. He said, “We’ve always heard they’re pretty bad.”
In the meantime, I had got the duct lines flipped back on. I’d had it checked for water and there wasn’t any. It was dry under there. And this guy pokes his head under there came out and told me, “To tell you the truth, sir. You’re going to have to put a lining in there on the dirt floor.” I expected him to request fluorescent lighting and an air conditioning unit however I got fed up with all of this. To get the duct lines put on it cost me 400 bucks. I had some pipe tore out of there just in case it was leaking and replaced that and it cost me about $200. I used to be a chief engineer for Courtyard and Holiday Inn so I called them. And they come under and got the heater running and that cost me another $250. In other words, American Home Shield did nothing.
Moreover, I had billing problems with AHS. Why all of a sudden, “I cannot take it no longer out of your bank account.” So I sent them a check and I can see on my computer it’s been taken out of my bank account. Then I got a paper bill in the mail about a week later for the same thing. So I send them an email letter and I said “What are you doing? Which is it?” And I’ve never gotten a reply. Now that was just lately. In the past I haven’t had that much problem with them.
I always had a bit of a suspicion about the people they send down. There’s this time when my stovetop needed gas and replacing. They came in, the guy said, “Oh the pan underneath is all rotted out. We won’t replace it because of that.” “My god, do you mean while boiling water it overflowed and went into the pan underneath like it’s supposed to and that got rusty? Oh, horrors. Let’s not have that happen.” I had to pay for it myself. But I go ahead and keep hoping for the best. I’m not really thrilled to death with AHS’s service lately. I’m going to get rid of them. Just one more time I call for something and I get that kind of stuff where it ends up costing me 800 bucks out of my own pocket. Because every time they send this clown I’ve got to give them 75 bucks.

My latest claim with American Home Shield hasn't been fixed yet. I had to postpone one time and yesterday, it was difficult for them to get someone out at the only time I could be home to get the job done. They said they were going to come by today instead. I have some further concerns with my air conditioning system. That job went on for maybe 2 weeks and I thought AHS could have done more to promote urgency to get this job done. The guy that came out was okay, but he came out one time with the wrong equipment and AHS had to give me another appointment. It wasn't pleasant.
I also think the copay is too high. I spent two to three hundred dollars beyond the copay for the air conditioning system service call. I had to pay for the Freon - they paid me the first $10 and then we pay everything else and they were charging me about $70 a pound as well. I think that's putting too much on the customer and AHS needs to take on more. They charge too much and they don't give the time and customer support needed to be received by the customer. I also think that if the contractor's not doing what they're supposed to be doing, AHS should be able to call them and tell them to get on the job. But in my experience, what I got was that contractors have other customers. I don't pay AHS for that, I pay them to get me someone to get the job done expeditiously, especially if it has something to do with the air conditioning and the temperature is about 300 degrees.
I tried to reflect on what do I really have in American Home Shield. I pay $50 every month and hardly ever use their services. Then when the contractors come out, I got to pay another $70-75 even when sometimes I don't get good service. I'm sort of cool on American Home Shield at this point. If I could find someone better, I'd probably drop it.
Hi Edward, I am sorry to hear about this experience. I do understand that is frustrating and I am glad that you have taken the time to make us aware of this. We will use this feedback to better our products and services. If you are still in need of assistance please let me know. Thank you! ^CW

American Home Shield is great! I'd recommend them. So far, any claims I’ve had, everything’s been taken care of properly. Submitting a claim is very easy. Our most recent claim was for a plumbing problem in the kitchen, there was a leak in the pipe under the sink and it was taken care of right away. The contractor they sent was very knowledgeable. He explained to me what he was doing and what he found and he did the job within a very short period of time. Since then, I haven’t had any problems whatsoever. On both American Home Shield and the plumber they sent out, an excellent job was done.

Our air conditioning went out and I had a technician repair it. I had a previous contract and they gave me an estimate but it was something that was totally wrong. The American Home Shield contractor came by, diagnosed something different, and fixed the problem. The contractor was outstanding and professional and knew exactly what he was doing and took care of the issue in 5 minutes. Everything is working now. I'm putting in to AHS to get the heating system checked up and inspected and to make sure they’re okay for the winter.

They will find a way to wriggle out of paying for the big ticket items. We've had 4 appliance repairs denied and when one technician sides in your favor they will send out another who will back them up. I have filed a complaint with the California Insurance Dept. $75 dollars each time for someone to come out and tell me "it's not covered" – I could have bought new appliances for the cost of this "service".
Hi Antony,I am sorry to hear that the items that you have had serviced has not been covered. The service fee is due when the technician comes out to diagnosis. If you would like I can look into the denials to see what other options there may be? Please let me know if you would like assistance. Thanks! ^CW

We came home from vacation and the air conditioning was out. It was a late Friday night event. When I called in the person at American Home Shield said, "It's Friday night, no vendor will be contacting you until minimum, sometime in Monday." I said, "It's 90 degrees here in Florida. We can't do that." So on Monday, she went ahead and submitted it. That Monday the first vendor called and said that they would be happy to work me in the following Friday so my air would have been off 7 complete days. I was most unhappy with that, called back American Home Shield, talked to a second person who was most kind and very sympathetic to what has happening.
She put me on hold and called vendors in Orlando until she could find one and they came out that day. So I was most happy with the second person from AHS and she needs to be commended. She went above and beyond to help us out. I was not happy with the first one. There was no effort on her part to give me any assistance on Friday night unless I wanted to pay the emergency call rate while the second person completely helped me avoid it because we already had to wait 48 hours and had then learned we were going to wait another 5 days. The bad taste in my mouth from the first one is somewhat gone but I don't think it should go unnoticed. Then we got an excellent repair company, Air Doctor. They had been here before and they were most accommodating. They worked us in and they were excellent. The air conditioner since then has been working fine.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the water heater, and a service guy came out on a Saturday to take a look at the water heater and prepped it. Then on Monday, all the service guy had to do was come out, pull the old one out and put the new one in. A neighbor of mine had mentioned that we needed to have an inspector come out and inspect it, and it was our responsibility to take care of that. So my wife and I said, “Well, I don’t know if we want to do that or not.” But then American Home Shield called and says they’ve already scheduled an inspector to come out, which was something that they did, and it was awesome. The inspector came out but he red tagged it due to some new ventilation code. So as soon as we found out it was red tagged, we called American Home Shield back and they were out the next day to fix it. Overall, American Home Shield did a fantastic job.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a second attempt to fix a blockage in a line that was backing up into the house. I was a little frustrated that they didn't fix it the first time, but I had a good interaction with the contractor. On the first attempt, he called me to know some stuff. But on the second time, he got busy and didn't call me back with any feedback. So, I called him, and he said that he found something like feces when he snaked the drain. So there possibly could have been a blockage but he wasn't sure.
Everything seemed clear from the house to the main drain for the first month. However, it happened again and again and the only thing the contractor said he could do is to figure out a way to fix it. Hence the issue is still unresolved right now, and we would have to wait for a third episode to actually do something about it. I think it's BS.
Hi Eric, I am sorry to hear about this and if you are still in need of assistance please let me know! I would be happy to look into this further if there is a current malfunction. Thanks! ^CW

Our AC claim with AHS was a good experience. My only gripe with them is that it is nearly impossible to get anybody on the phone from AHS. Apparently, they don't have enough operators. If you don't do everything online, if you have a question, which I did have, to speak with somebody at some point and it was very difficult. I was on hold at least three times for at least 15 to 20 minutes. One time I was on hold for about 35 to 40 minutes. Another time it was 20 to 25 minutes. Neither of those times anybody picked up, and I just had to hang up and go. In another time I finally got somebody holding on for about 15 minutes.
The contractor we had was very good though. He had to come back and I had to open up another ticket, which went fine as I wasn't charged for it. I had another experience where I had a plumber come where he put a new garbage disposal on my sink. The next day, I was using the dishwasher and I had water and stuff coming back up into the sink. I called and he came, and it didn't seem to be a problem anymore, but there wasn't supposed to be a charge for that call and then I ended up getting a charge. I sent a letter to American Home Shield and got a call from a girl saying that they had waived the charge. That worked good and I'm happy so far with everything.

My experience with AHS was all right although their customer service representatives dropped the ball. Because on my renewal this year, if I don’t use a free service call which I was granted on last year’s renewal, it does not carry over to the next year. In other words, I can’t make it have two. If I don’t use it within the year, I lose it. So I had another one this year when I re-upped and the lady says, “Now, you have one free service call.” Okay, that’s great. So I put in the service request for the air conditioning repair. The guy comes out and says, “Hey, you’ve got to pay $75 service call.” “Whoa, wait a minute. I had a freebie.”
I called back and the customer service representative initially failed to inform me that I have to call in before I make the service call to say, “I’ll take my free service call, $75.” So we finally got it squared away, had the air conditioners fixed. What do I get in the mail? I get an invoice for a service call for $75. It wasn’t paid. Their right hand and left hand are not working in concert. But, the contractor was great and did a fantastic job. Had nothing to do with the contractor, has to do with American Home Shield. They need more customer service representatives. Every time I have called I have waited, on an average, 15-20 minutes to get in touch with someone. That’s absolutely unacceptable. I even wrote to their parent company in Memphis but nothing’s changed. They need a lot of improvement.

I called American Home Shield to repair my Maytag washer. I was not pleased with the extent of time that it took to get it done. I made the first call to them on September 4th and I was given some advice to check a couple of elements of the washer, and it did start to work. Maybe the next couple of days still, I was experiencing the same problem which initiated with an LD light coming on which means long drain.
I called back and with the company that they outsource to, which is ASI Plumbing - the tech came out and this problem I have is intermittent. One day it will be there and the next day not. When he came out he adjusted the drain a little bit or the hose and within 24 hours I was calling them back. From that point, they were delayed. The delay stemmed from the day the tech was to come back. He called from his truck and said, "Oh, there was a pump that I needed to put with it and I'm going to have to call American Home Shield to see if the pump is approved and I'll call you back." I didn't hear from them and there was a week of time between that conversation.
I called back. That's what I didn't like because he said he'll call me back, but I called back in a week. The company contacted the tech who then called to see if the part had come in and the company told me it had not come in, but he would call me back. I had to call back and that's when the operator put me on hold, called the tech, and to my disappointment the tech was now going to call and see if the part was in. In other words, my call initiated their follow up. They did come in and they did come out and replaced a pump and the panel or the board. I have a list of 7 itemized things that the washer was doing and he said that that would take care of all but one of the items which was where the inner tub wobbles a bit could not be fixed. That's a general flaw or fault with that type of machine.
That's it in a nutshell. There were two things that I didn't like. I have to call to have them follow up and there was another time the tech said he was here but he actually had just called me. The main complaint was I was without my fairly expensive washing machine for at least a month. That's my report of that. He was just here last Tuesday and it seems to be working well now. This is the first time and I do believe in giving people second chances so I'll give them a second try.

On October 6, 2015 I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) for a broken microwave oven. A service technician was promptly assigned and Dale from Pac Tech Services came 2 days later and advised that there were 3 major issues with it. And that it would likely be replaced as it was not cost effective to repair it as IT IS OVER 17 YEARS OLD. A new replacement over-the-stove microwave would cost around $200-$240 online or at any of the big box stores. Oh yeah, this is the second repair on this microwave in about a year, so I'm now $200 in deductibles into it myself. Imagine my shock when I was advised by an AHS rep that it was scheduled for repair "because" the technician had listed what it would take to repair it and "did not" recommend replacement.
On Oct 10 I was then assured that I could expect a call-back from AHS offering a replacement on the microwave. NO CALL-BACK. I contacted AHS again on Oct 13 and after a short conversation was AGAIN assured I would receive a call-back that day for a replacement offer. NO CALL-BACK. On Oct 15 I was contacted by Pac Tech stating they were scheduled to come repair the microwave. I then contacted AHS AGAIN and was advised that I was NOT authorized for a replacement now. I am very upset over the deceptive promises made by AHS representatives who were likely well-meaning. It makes no sense for myself to spend $200 on a 17+ year old microwave, nor for AHS to spend hundreds of dollars on the same! I was told on the 15th that I could indeed expect a call-back in reference to my concern in the order in which my call was received... Still waiting.

You can easily put in claims online but when you need to have an answer from a human being, the call-in number is close to impossible to get through. I have sat with my phone on speakerphone sometimes for 45 minutes and then given up. I called American Home Shield because I had a refrigerator that wasn't working. They gave me a name but then because they couldn't come right away, they called a second one. He came but I don't think he knew what he was doing. He looked at it and said it might need a part. So he goes and comes back two days later and says he got some parts for it now. I put everything in and it's gonna take at least 5:00 that night before it's running well. That was is in the morning. I said okay. In the meantime, I still don't have a refrigerator.
Well, 5:00 came, the next day came, and at 6:00 Saturday night, I heard one ice cube go down and the rest of it never worked. So they said they were gonna give me a new refrigerator. I said, "Fine. I've been looking at refrigerators just in case." They said "No. We want one that's as close to what you own." I said, "Fine. Perfect." So I told them about that one. I have saved all my information papers. I told them the exact GE model and that I want a black one.
They did send me a model that was close to the one that I had except that it's stainless steel, not a black one. It's sitting on the driveway. I have to make a decision whether I wanna keep it or not because they took it out of the box on my driveway. I thought, if it took them 3 and a half weeks to get this, I better keep it. For the other times I've had them, they've been great. But this is unreal - three and a half weeks without a refrigerator. It's a good thing I had a little one in my garage. Every time I wanted something, I had to go out to the garage. I didn't eat well during those three weeks.
In the first place, the first guy who came should have known that the fridge should have been replaced and not had its parts replaced. I should have had a fridge within 3 or 4 days. They told me they were gonna get me a unit as close to my unit as they possibly can. And my unit was a very expensive one. I would have picked one out cheaper and they would have saved money. They don't have many great people to send but I've always been happy with the different people that come even though they'd come from far away. In fact, when I had a problem with my garage door, they said they'd send someone from Houston and that's an hour drive. So I've been happy. I would tell friends to go with them, but I'd say, I'd be careful.

Worst company I have ever dealt with. They are scammers and wouldn't recommend anyone to buy a warranty from them. Here's my story... I purchased a new home and my realtor recommended getting this company due to in anything goes bad, it would be able to get fixed. I called them 7 months after my services had started to tell them I needed a contractor to check the central air flow because it wasn't hitting my one room enough. They sent over a company that looked like it was run by 13-yr old kids and they had no idea what they were doing.
An hour into working on my air blower system, they told me they couldn't figure out why it wasn't getting air and left. 20 mins after they left my whole first floor airflow shut down!!! Called American Home Shield back to complain and they sent out another contractor who wrote a report stating that the original contractor tried to play with ductwork and rewired my unit. (I still have the work report from them.)
American Home Shield refused to fix the problem and said it's not their fault the original contractor messed the system up so bad. A small problem, maybe a $50 fix now turned into $3800 since I have to replace my entire unit since they basically fried the motors and other things. We currently spoke with an attorney and will be dealing with these scammers!!! Stay away from them - if you're smart, you're better off just getting a reputable contractor to do the work. Oh and they charge me $125 for each service call so I basically paid $250 for my unit to be broke.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield about our evaporative cooler. Submitting a claim was always easy but the problem this time is I have waited on the phone for two hours and that’s a lot of time. The technicians that came for the repair worked very well. They’ve checked the frame of the cooler four times but when they repaired it, they thought it was okay but no. About a week later, the wind blew and the frames climbed up. We had to do by ourselves, we had to climb to the roof and we used some tapes as a temporary fix. I asked for a service call and somebody told me that I have to pay which I did not agree. Because when somebody came to repair my cooler, they should at least help me to fix it or let me know what had to be replaced. I should be 100% satisfied with their work first.
There was another thing that I was very angry about AHS. Their contractor already came to my house a number of times to repair my appliances and I always pay the reconnection fee on time. But one time I failed to do so because I was not at home. I told them that I was working and requested to send me the bill and I’ll pay. Then a lady called me when I was driving on the freeway. I told her to call me after 15 minutes because it’s very dangerous. She then called me again at lunch time. Unfortunately I was very busy that day and I told her to call me again an hour later. But then a man was talking to me, telling that he will send me to collection because I have to pay the recon fee. I explained to him that I was busy with work. He replied to me by saying that I don’t want to pay the fee. He talked too much. I'm not like what he's accusing me of.
I am not avoiding any payment of fee or costs that I have with AHS. That was the first time I was very angry on them. Their representatives should be careful when talking with their customers. I understand English much but my vocabulary is not enough to explain what I am doing with my work. I was also driving when they first called. I am just requesting for some time then. I love American Home Shield. I love them because they take very good care of their customers. I just have some complaints about their employees.

We filed a claim on Friday because of an air-conditioner that started to leak and water ran out on the floor. The temperature went up and the air-conditioner fan wouldn't stay on. American Home Shield couldn't get anybody out here and everything straightened itself out eventually. But I called this morning because someone called to schedule to come out when it's working fine now. I talked with Claudia and explained to her that on August 21st, they sent 2 vendors out here, an air-conditioning person and a plumbing company for the same problem. They did the same thing in June, and we've had problems prior to that. She said she didn't see anything that said we've had any problems prior to June but said she would turn the problem over to the diagnostic department so that they could see what’s going on and see what might be the best way to proceed.
Since the problem was temporarily solved, there was no need to send anybody out here right now. We would wait until we have the problem again. American Home Shield has always responded favorably but we don't have what they used to do for us over the years. Hope they'll give us the credits if we’d already paid 3 times for the same problem. We always recommend them to a friend and have had good experiences. We’ve had washer, dryer, dishwasher and other items that have gone bad that have been replaced. We’ve been members for a long time.

American Home Shield is a great company to work and be associated with. They've always come through and repaired what needed to be repaired. We're completely satisfied with it. I submitted my claim for a leaking pipe online, as I always do, and then got a call the next day from the company who will make the repair and everything went well. It came to a point where I might have to have those pipes replaced, but they repaired them every time. We've had three or four repairs along those lines and everything's working now. I've already recommended AHS to many friends.

They are good in making follow-ups and they always have been very prompt. The repair work that they’ve done was always exemplary. There was one exception and it wasn’t the fault of the individual. It happened to be something that existed, and he thought he had it accomplished and he didn’t, so it just upset my lady very much. It’s more the emotion than anything else.

I recently submitted a claim for the washer and they set up the appointment for the serviceman to come out. I have a bedroom I don't use often and I had company in it. When they did close the door that night, it was just hot in there and I couldn't figure out why. I called American Home Shield because of that. I suspected it must be something to do with the dock work. I remembered that they put some plastic under my house and put it in sump pump. I told the guy and he went under there and in no time, he came back out. He had found that that particular vent had a lever on it that open and close the vent because it was the closest one to the heating system. It had evidently gotten not closed or almost closed during that work under the house they were doing on that sump pump. He said it was right over the sump pump, so he just opened it up and that's all.
Submitting a claim was very easy. I've had a good number of things done including a new furnace put in, a new heat pump, and an air conditioner. One time, the heat went off. This is before the new furnace. I called and they told me it's going to be three days before somebody will get out here. It's 20 degrees outside and I said, "Oh. Three days is so long. I don't know if I can handle that." The contractor said, "Well, wait just a minute." In about one minute he came back. He said somebody will be there in a little while. They were there in 30 minutes. It just so happened somebody was working, they probably work overtime. The company was in Charland but they were in town.
Also, I've had a garbage disposal that stopped and a microwave-oven combination wherein the microwave stopped working and the dishwasher wasn't washing dishes good. They took that out and repaired that. It's old but they fixed it. I've just been real pleased with the service, the politeness of the guys, and the knowledge. I have had really pleasant experiences with all of the workmen. They've done a great job quickly and, they've gotten back to me quickly. I've recommended them to a lot of people.

I've had 2 different service requests and with each request, I haven't been pleased at all with the type and level of service that I received from either vendor. It’s having to take time to do all of that, which doesn't set up well for a very favorable customer experience.

I had a good experience with the electrical guy that AHS sent but the plumber was the nightmare. I filed a complaint with American Home Shield. I talked to a representative and I sent an email to the company that the plumber worked for and he got back with me and responded and apologized. What happened was he was really rude and sounded like he was angry when he called to set up the appointment to come by. He said he was somebody from whatever plumbing and he said, “What you got going on over there?” Those were his exact words and I was like, “I don’t know. I think that’s why you’re coming to tell me.”
He said, “Well, I’ll be there in 15 to 20 minutes,” and then when he got here and I opened the door, he just walked in and told me that he was the plumber and I said, “So where do you want to start first?” And he said, “I don’t really care.” He talked to me like he knew me, and was very unprofessional. He went through and looked at the problem and didn’t really assess it and what he told me was wrong. He told me the problem I have was the toilet in the other bathroom was a foundation issue and and that was not something that was covered onto my warranty.
My complaint is about the whole demeanor and I have been at home at this same house for 45 years and there were many service people I’ve had in and out of here, but I’ve never had anyone that treated me that way, that was that unprofessional ever. And when I told him that, he said, “Well, I wasn’t rude and you have a nice day ma’am.” He was that abrupt, left and didn’t even give me a chance to pay him, which I was happy about because I didn’t think that he deserved to be paid.

I did not hear anything for 3 days and finally called AHS. They said Barnett Air Conditioning stated that this was a pre-existing condition and would not be covered. I asked for an explanation of how they determined it was pre-existing.
After putting me on hold, she stated that I would have to ask Barnett about that, maybe the system was dirty. Sigh... I knew then they were not interested in good customer service, only making money. I cancelled my contract. I would not recommend AHS unless you are elderly. This may be good for older customers, that call for every little thing, and pay a $75 fee for toasters, garbage disposals, ceiling fans, etc. But if you call for anything major, "Houston we have a problem."

My first service request was far from satisfactory. My plumbing was backed up and draining very slowly on the Friday before Labor Day. I submitted my request and received the name of the company who would be calling me. I waited several hours, and then called and left a message with the company to see when they would be coming. After another hour, I called them back, and a woman answered the call. I told her I was checking to see when she would be sending someone. She replied that they would not be able to come until the Tuesday after Labor Day! I asked her how I was supposed to do laundry or anything over the long weekend. She said that was the best she could do.
So, I called another company and they came out immediately. So, I ended up paying a service call along with my monthly fee to AHS! I called AHS to cancel the service request and told the operator of my disappointment. She didn't apologize or ask if she could transfer me to someone. She just replied that the service call had been cancelled. I recently sent a request to cancel my contract, but no one has called me back.

But then when I had my most recent claim for my icebox (where I had to pay another $75), I had to pay a total of $150 worth of co-pay to pick up the first $75 that I didn't pay before. I don't think that was right because I was told that this separate place would be covered under the plan that I have with AHS, but apparently it's a separate big claim. I purchased a home from a builder, it was completely remodeled but had an old A/C unit so my realtor offers to buy a home warranty to get me to buy the house just in case the air stops working. I agreed. I was living in my home for a month and I get a huge arc in my basement at the A/C ductwork. I shut the main breaker off and researched what had caused the sparking (almost a fire) it burned a large part of my ductwork. I go to tape up the burned area and I get shocked! I called AHS and explained what happened. They send out an HVAC guy, he looks around and says this should all be replaced, he also says my warranty covers pre-existing problems (as did the email I received from AHS). He says "I'll write up a report and send it to AHS and they will contact you so we can come back and fix everything."
I get a call from AHS two and a half weeks later, the representative informs me that the spark was caused by a faulty switch and therefore none of the ductwork is covered under the warranty. What??? So I had to pay that HVAC guy $75.00 for a service fee of which he did absolutely nothing. I also had to pay an electrician $75.00 to replace a $2.00 switch that apparently was faulty going to the radon fan. So I dropped $150.00 for a $2.00 switch to get replaced. Then I call AHS because my drains are gargling, they send a plumber to my home. He says he can't find the vent outside so he had to leave and he told me he wasn't going to charge me the $75.00 service fee since he didn't do anything. I called the PA Sewer Dept. and they found the vent (it was covered by some dirt during the construction). The plumber never returned my calls or came back. Next thing I know I get a bill from AHS for $75.00 from that plumber.
I called AHS and explained what happened, they put me on hold and come back and tell me the $75.00 is still due. After this I was very upset and dissatisfied with AHS service and customer service. I contacted the BBB and logged a complaint. Long story short... AHS ended up "letting" me cancel the contract. They stated it was cancelled as of June 1st, 2015... This warranty was purchased on May 18th, 2015 for $450.00 from my realtor on my behalf. I expected a full refund. They sent me a check in the amount of $26.00. So I had this "warranty" for a half of a month and that cost me $424.00 plus two payments of $75.00 for an HVAC guy and an electrician. And I had to pay to have all of my ductwork repaired on my own. I think the only thing they really intended to cover under the warranty was the appliances... But all of my appliances are brand new with their own warranty.
All of the AHS representatives I spoke to over the phone were unprofessional and had no interest in doing the right thing. I asked to speak to a manager and the one woman said "They just gonna tell you the same thing" then I was put on hold for 17 minutes until I got disconnected. I was not treated fairly and I am totally unsatisfied with AHS customer service and relations. I would not recommended this company to anyone.

My most recent claim was for an air conditioning repair. I called American Home Shield, and they came right away and fixed it for me. Every time I called, they've always been nice. I never had any major issues except for one bad experience with a company that they had sent out before for an air conditioning repair. I spent about a month and a half without air conditioning. The guy was using used parts and as soon as he turned the corner, it was back out again. They kept sending him out and each time I had to wait for an extended period for him to get back to me. I've told them not to send him back and they haven't. Other than that, my experience with AHS had been great. I don't have any issues with them and I recommended them to friends at work.

My garage door keypad opener wasn't working and made the claim online. I immediately got a response back confirming it, that a local repair person would be in touch with me in which they were right away. They worked with me on the time convenient to get them to my house. When they arrived, they were polite, professional, did the job, explained what they were doing, and were out in a reasonable amount of time. So far, American Home Shield's superior and they've been really good.

My most recent claim was our air-conditioner. I submitted the claim online and had to speak to someone eventually but it was very simple. I was very happy with the results. The American Home Shield representative was very pleasant and took care of everything. They had scheduled one company to do the job but it was Monday before they should get out. So, they cancelled that one and sent another company that could come out at least for $12 but I really appreciated that. It was a Saturday when we called and I was like, "Oh no, not Monday!" That can't happen and it was in the 100's at that time here in Texas.
The contractor came on Sunday and got the job done and did it quickly. He knew exactly what was talked about and got it taken care of within a few minutes. However, he could've been a little more professionally dressed. My AC bill has gone down since the repair. Apparently, my AC was having to work overtime when it spins a lot making my bill extremely high. Overall, the experience was fantastic.

I was having trouble with my washer and dryer and a man from AHS' contractor company came on Monday and figured out what was wrong with both of them. He had to order parts and he said he'd call me in the afternoon to let me know if the part was in stock or not. I never heard from him so I called again on Wednesday and the girl on the phone was real snippy to me. She said they have the parts but they could not come for the service until next Tuesday since the technician was going to be out of town over the weekend and they don't have any other technicians. I called American Home Shield and spoke with one of their ladies who was the nicest person ever, and she called contractor directly. As a result, the contractor is supposed to contact me about coming tomorrow.
We love American Home Shield, they have always been very good to us. I have recommended them a few times already to others. I've been very happy with the other contractor AHS sent in the past since their technicians knew what they were doing. It was just the contractor that I couldn't understand - they had the parts, my laundry's piling up, my machines are going crazy and for me, they should just come and fix it.

They said the same thing that our other AC people had said last year - our AC unit is on its last leg but it still has its knees on up, it's still functioning and not ready to be replaced. They were very good and we were satisfied with them. We gave them a check and they went home. Nothing else was involved. We asked, they came, we were happy. There are two things that American Home Shield did and the hot water heater was one of them. That was a change out because it was rusted out at the bottom and leaking. We had some stool problems and they fixed a stool too. Everything went through them fine. I didn't have any problems at all with submitting the claim because it's handled between the plumber and American Home Shield. All we did was sign the voucher when the work was done. I don't have any complaints at all. Everything went smooth.
I had one bad experience with American Home Shield though, and that was quite a while ago. We were supposed fix something as the furnace went bad. It didn't have any extra heat strips in it. They were needed and I never pursued it, but if we have a cold winter we'll never keep up. It was just enough to protect the AC. It should've been a board in there. I expect the board was in the other one to fire a couple more heat strips so that it could warm the house up whenever it got down. The company bought the thing and sent it here to be installed, and it just didn't match the existing. I always thought it should, but I never pursued it. I would like to be able to get those heat strips in that furnace, but I don't know what it costs. Overall, everything went fine and it's the best thing that could happen except for the one experience on the furnace that was replaced and the company replaced, shipped it and bought it. That was a screw-up.

So unhappy and so frustrated of the service offered by AHS. Take money is always easy but make customers happy is another thing. I've been with AHS for more than 5 years. I've requested very few services as my house was built in 2005, and I bought it in 2010 and also bought all my appliances new at the end of 2010. All the money I've paid to AHS is much higher than the services I've requested, but that's fine, because I just wanted to have the service rendered correctly to the money I've paid. Unfortunately, AHS really turned me down this time.
09/22, I submitted a service requested for my washer. 09/24, a technician (Home Appliances Services) came to my house to diagnose the problem and end up ordered a new lock. 10/01, the technician came back, changed the lock. It hasn't worked. So he believed that the motor was bad. So he ordered a new motor. The only thing was that to order the part, he had follow AHS's procedure, and couldn't order where he wanted. And I was informed that the part was back ordered and might be available on 10/14, but nothing was sure. Home Appliances Services told me that they could order the motor easily elsewhere, but AHS hadn't let them do that. And AHS hasn't cared about how I did with my dirty clothes. No solution, no offer have been made to me, and I have to wait at least until 10/14.
10/05, I called AHS to ask for option cash out. I thought with this option I could go faster and get the money and buy a new washer. But no, I have had to wait until the cash department calculated how much they could offer me for my washer. Today is 10/11, no news from cash department!! Of course, they wanted to wait until 10/19 to withdraw money from my account until finding another easy solution for them, but not for me. Conclusion: I really hate this company, and will never, never recommend to anyone. And of course, I will not stay with company any longer.

AHS insists they only contract with licensed repairmen. In February 2015, they sent a technician to service my refrigerator. He told me the ice maker needed to be replaced and was not covered under the warranty. He charged me $477 to replace the ice maker. It did not solve the problem, and he refused to return to my home. I hired someone else on my own and found the problem was a frozen water line in the rear of the freezer, which should have been covered under the warranty.
I called the ROC and learned the technician AHS sent was not licensed. AHS insists the technician was licensed at the time they dispatched him, but they could not provide me with his license number. His invoice does not include a license number or even a business address, and the website listed is bogus. I recommend checking the ROC's website to see if the repairmen they propose to send are licensed before making an appointment to let them into your home. If the technicians tell you the item you need fixed is not covered, pay them the $75 service fee and hire a certified technician from the manufacturer because you are about to get ripped off.

American Home Shield used a local vendor for my most recent claim which was for a washing machine. However, what should have taken 5 days took over a month. The vendor claimed they had to order a part which would take 5-7 business days. I waited patiently, called them, and left messages after messages but they never returned my calls. Since I couldn't get a response from them, I checked with American Home Shield two or three times and found out the part had never been ordered through them.
When American Home Shield got in contact with the vendor, they told AHS that the part was on order and that it should be here on a Friday. That Friday rode around but the part wasn't here. I left messages to the vendor again and called American Home Shield back. They said it would be here a week that it had been shipped. At that point, I asked them to check to see when it was ordered because I didn't feel like it has ever been ordered. That's the runaround. We were over a month without a washing machine for one part. The same company had worked 8 years ago on my refrigerator which never did get the part needed. It ended up with American Shield replacing the $5,000 refrigerator but I had a problem with the replacement because it was unnecessary. This company did not do what they should have done with the refrigerator and I feel the same with the washing machine.
Nevertheless, I'd recommend AHS to friends. Submitting the claim with them was not a problem but it's very frustrating having a vendor like that. I called AHS and told them I don't want that vendor back in my house because they did not do what they were supposed to do. Another thing we found out is that the vendors that they’re sending out are not following through with things that need to be done and they want to extend their exorbitant charges. I just had a water heater claim. We can buy a hot water heater for around $400 and they wanted almost $500 for it and things that needed to be changed around the hot water heater. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was a built-in microwave. Submitting the claim on the web was easy but scheduling was a pain in the butt. They first pushed it to a contractor, which was Sears, who couldn't even get out to look at it for two weeks. I had to call them back and talk to a representative and say, "Hey, look, this is not acceptable." So they pushed it to another contractor. In the meantime, I went ahead and scheduled with Sears in case there was nobody else. Then I called the representative. They rescheduled somebody else who still took a week to get out to look at it, but better than two weeks. In the meantime, they never closed out the call with Sears so I get a phone call from Sears saying they were going to be at our place tomorrow and so I had to call a customer rep recently back again to have them cancel that service request with Sears.
The interaction I had with the service rep was good but the contractors were not able to fix the appliance. They looked at it and had to order some parts, which they might not find because it's quite an old microwave. There appeared to be a disconnect with the service provider and American Home Shield. I called in to try to find out what the status was after a week because I talked to the guy and he said the parts were going to be ordered. So I called customer service and asked them about my service request. They called the company and evidently the wires got crossed with the company because they said that there were two parts or that parts had been ordered and received. That's what was told to the customer service representative and what was relayed to me, that they were going to be out next day.
I had not heard from the servicing company so I called them and said, "Hey, I hear you're coming out to my place tomorrow." They said, "No, we're still waiting for approval from American Home Shield on the parts." There was a little bit of a disconnect. I found out what the issue with that was. The service company had two people with the same last name when they tried to resolve the inquiry by American Home Shield. But once we got past all that, things went well. They couldn't find the parts. So they agreed to replace the microwave, which they did. I got a call from the company who was going to deliver the microwave and install it. It was delivered and installed and that part of it went smoothly. So the first part of the claim was not so good, but the last part of it went well.

I only had one claim with AHS. I was very pleased with the response and the action that was taken and the company that went and serviced my place. The contractor was very good. He was very prompt. He called me within five hours and he took care of it. I will recommend them with anybody.

Every time I submitted a claim to AHS, everything had been fine. However, I didn't care for the plumber who came the last time. He was different, a younger guy who owned part of the company. He came when he was supposed to, fixed the stuff, and did the work fine but he didn't have a good attitude as all the other people we've ever needed. He was a young smart aleck trying to come up in business. Other that, I'm satisfied with the company and will continue to use them. I've had good luck with American Home Shield. If not, I wouldn't be intending to get them on my next house. It's a home out of state and when I close the deal, I give them a call to have it set up for that house.

We've had American Home Shield for many years and they were awesome. Our most recent claim was about our central heater and it has been excellent since the repair. The contractors they sent were good. We're very happy with them and would definitely recommend them.

I've had some good and bad experience with American Home Shield but the last one, for my washer, was good. I called via telephone and within 24 hours got a response from American Home Shield. At first, I was assigned to another company but they were not responsive so I called back to Home Shield and they referred Murphy. I prefer somebody local like them. Since the repair, the washer has been excellent.

We submitted a claim about our furnace a month ago to AHS. Customer service was amazing and they got it fixed. My husband liked the contractor that he dealt with. He said the guy explained everything well. We’re still debating if we want to change over our furnace to do gas, so most likely we’ll use that company again, so exceptional. We'd recommend AHS.

It had been easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. The last time I had them was for an electrical work on my fan. Their representatives were very nice and the guy they sent was very good. I thought I needed to buy a new fan but no, he brought out a little switch and fixed something. He was excellent and I was very pleased with him. He's a very smart guy and knew exactly what to do. He came out and got it all fixed perfectly. My experience was very good.

The latest work we had done by American Home Shield was the AC unit. The man that was sent out diagnosed it very quickly and had the equipment on board to fix it. It was all done within an hour or two. They were prompt, very good and courteous.

American Home Shield recently fixed two toilets. During claim submission, I called and was on hold a really long time to speak with a representative about what I needed. I know I could have gone online but I don't go online. But it was fantastic after that and they did a great job. The contractors were very good and service was quick.

My air conditioner went out and I called American Home Shield and they sent someone to take a look at it. He said that it was because of the blower on the outside unit. He didn't have one exactly like it with him then so he said he'd have to go back and get one. But later on he said, "No. This is close enough, it'll work." He went ahead and hooked that up and put it in there. There was another one after that and it was the same guy. He got it going and everything worked fine but I had a whisk of water coming out of the overflow for the central units outside the house. They came back and cleaned that up and was unstopped. He got that fixed with no charge because they were just here not too long before that. They're pretty prompt and the people that come out most of the time actually know what they're doing.
I did have a bad experience though. I had a leak in the bathroom about six months ago and they sent out a plumber that obviously didn't know what he was doing. He checked it and said the problem was due to the shower pan that was leaking. So they put this balloon-like down in the drain and filled the pan up with water and then leave it to see if the water level goes down, and it did. But he was entirely wrong. I told him I suspected that it was the plumbing underneath the shower in the master bath. I tried to show him where the leak was, that it's around the drain and not the shower pan. I said I caulked it once and I think the caulking does not hold it any longer. He looked there and still said that it's the shower pan. I ended up paying $70 for nothing because he didn't know.

I called American Home Shield when our air conditioning went out. We suffered through the weekend because it always goes out on a weekend. It took several days because of the weekend but when I called the representative, she said, "We'll try to get it done, but I don't think we can because it's a weekend." She called me back and told me it would be in a couple of days. In a couple of days later, early in the morning, they called and made an appointment. When they got here, the young man was very good, he went upstairs and checked it. He cited that the filter was really plugged, which I didn't realize because we changed it not very long ago. He took it out and we put new ones in. He went outside and checked on it and it was working fine, and it has worked fine ever since, so it was a very positive experience. Except for the time waiting for them to get here which they probably don't have any control over, it was great. They were wonderful.

I haven't had any problems with American Home Shield. I rent my house out and my tenants in there had problems with the commode in the hallway. AHS had a local plumbing company worked on it four months ago. About two months later, the problem reoccurred. So we had called out a recall on the toilet. At the same time, I also have an issue with the washing machines getting stopped up. AHS sent another company to work supposedly for the washing machine but they did the toilet instead. They got it flushing and everything was fine. We got it all mixed up. It worked out really good for me because I didn't have to pay the charge. AHS are very dependable and reliable insurance. I get everything done.
When I first bought my house, about a year later my interior air conditioning and heating unit wasn't working so AHS had to replace the whole unit, doing extra work to modify it because of the retro modifications that were required. That only cost me about $300 when the whole thing would cost about $3700 to replace it, so that was a good deal. The following year, the outside air conditioning unit went out and AHS replaced it too. That was about $3,000 or $4,000. Now, I got a brand new AC system inside and outside. If I didn't have AHS, I would've been in trouble because I was running out of my spare bedrooms in that house and it would've been a disaster. That definitely stands out. I know that there are other places that are cheaper but I worry about whether or not they would do the kind of things that AHS does. I've already recommended AHS to a lot of people and I would definitely recommend them again.

Our refrigerator started leaking water and ice, not a good combo. The tech came out, diagnose the issues. He ordered the parts told us what we needed to have done for his next trip. When the parts arrived, he took the inside of the refrigerator apart and put in the new parts. All totaled he was here about 45 minutes including clean-up time. He knew exactly how to make the repairs and install the new parts. Our kitchen was left as nice as it had been before the tech's visit. Very satisfied. I have just renewed our policy.

My most recent claim with AHS was for my air conditioner. Submission of the claim was automated. They let me know when the contractor was coming and the contractor gave me a 30-minute heads-up. The contractor was professional and prompt. He came and did his job and was very nice and pleasant so I didn't have a problem. No muss, no fuss. The AC was fine until a few days ago. Nevertheless, it was a very pleasurable experience with AHS.

I like American Home Shield. When I have a problem, I prefer to go online because it's easier than calling. I don't have to do much of anything. I go online, identify the problem and then I'd get an email stating who my provider would be. Everything gets taken care of immediately. I filed a claim for our water heater about a month ago. The heater had given out a year ago and again a year later, and it's only a year old. When I called the provider that AHS gave, they said somebody would be out within half an hour. Sure enough, he was there. The gentleman determined that it was a manufacturer's defect and he arranged to get us a new one from the manufacturer. I waited for three days to get it since it had to be authorized, and everything's been fine since. My AHS experience has been excellent overall.

I previously never got AHS to do anything, so we left them for about ten years because we hated it, but they've been good with our current go around. What happened back then was we couldn't even get a hot water, and everything that went wrong, I ended up replacing myself. My bathtub gets only one hot bath for my two kids and AHS came in with a certain formula and said "No, you are getting enough hot water." I said it was not enough hot water and I had to replace the hot water more than once myself. And then the people they hired for my air conditioner was not around so I hired my own air conditioning guy. Then he told me "Whoever you hired did a horrible job. They wired things that shouldn't be wired and shortchanged." So back then, I had wall after wall of problems.
But I like them now. It's just that I have not been able to get back with them. What happened was they came out several times and they couldn't fix the oven so they said they're going to replace it. They were here a long time ago and they gave me a replacement that would fit in a small spot; a GE. But when I looked online to look at all the data, comments, ratings and reviews, people said it takes a long time to preheat this oven. So I'm trying to but I don't know how to reach them back to tell them to recommend something else.
Submitting a claim to them has been a very good process now. The technicians have been very knowledgeable. They're more knowledgeable than the people ordering the parts back at their company because they already know that it's not going to be a part yet they go through this process and they try to put in a part, and the part doesn't work just like the tech knows it won't work. Then they get to concluding it will be a replacement.

In early August 2015 my air conditioning stopped working. I called American Home Shield for repair. I have had AHS services for over 11 years and this was maybe the 4th time I EVER called for service. A repairman came out that day, replaced the motor and let some of my freon out as he said there was too much. My air conditioner had not been serviced in over 11 years, so I was very doubtful about that. My air conditioner continued to fail, it would blow out slightly cool air and would not cool my house. When it was 90 degrees outside the inside of my house with the central air going full blast and a window air conditioner I had to purchase to try and stay cool going full blast and 4-5 fans going, my inside temp was over 80 degrees.
I called AHS a second time in late August to report the air conditioner continued to fail. They set up an appt. with the first company that came out. Those people never showed up for their appt., after I had taken off work. We set another appt. for the next day and I took off work again to met them. When they did not show, I contacted AHS by email and by phone. They reported to me that the vendor would call and set up a third appt. The vendors tech did show up and state he would be back when the receptionist set an appointment. When the vendor did NOT call, I called them. The receptionist was VERY rude and stated to me that they would NOT be coming out today and what day for another appt. would work? I then called AHS and stated I did not want that vendor out after the rudeness, problems with keeping appointments and failing to fix my air after two tries.
AHS finally sent out another company, which stated the coil and outside unit needed to be replaced as it could not keep up and continued to fail. I sent AHS a few emails conveying my dissatisfaction with the entire process. I was contacted by phone by AHS, who informed me they were just going to replaced the entire unit. I was surprised because the vendor had told me only the outside unit and the coil needed replaced, but I was happy it would finally be taken care of. Over the next 7 weeks, I continued to call AHS and the vendor to see when they were going to replace the unit. I was not getting return phone calls and when I called in to see what the problem was, they always said "we will call you back." There was always a problem - they had not received the paperwork from the vendor, we are waiting for the new unit to be delivered, they didn't get the estimate.
After I called every 2-3 days they sent out a third company for a "second opinion". It is now mid Oct. and of course my unit keeps the house cool when it's only 68 degrees outside!! I believe they purposely were deceitful, waiting for the temps outside to cool, so they could reports it functions. I have taken days off work, had out of pocket expenses buying a window unit and paid additional utility bills for running everything. I am very frustrated with the way this had been handled and just wanted to be cool. I have a medical skin condition that gets very bad in the heat, so I needed my unit fixed! I know next summer when it heats up I will be replacing it because it does NOT function properly. I would not recommend this company and I will warn friends and family about my experiences with them. They sure didn't mind taking my premiums all these years, but when it came down to it refused to honor their contract.
Hello Tracy , Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you have had. I will schedule a case manager to contact you regarding this matter.
