    I'm happy with American Home Shield. I've had it a lot of years and I haven't had a problem year in year out. I have never had a need to call them back. My AC unit's drain pipe clogged up once and it was taken care of. The technician that came out had been here before and pretty much knew what was going on. He did a complete service job. Earlier this year, he took the air handler out and cleaned it. Most recently I had AHS come out and look at my AC and do a more seasonal, preemptive kind of thing.

    The technicians that they've sent out have been all good except for one. They sent one bad guy and another repairman came in to help me fix the problem because it was one bad repairman’s fault. But other than that I like them. Recently I had trouble with my heat pump. I filed a claim and it worked out good. They came in and fixed my heat pump.

    Sending the claim for the leak I had in my tub was a pretty easy process to get through. The contractor came out and fixed it. Generally, I haven't had any problems with the technicians. They've been fine. The only issue I had was when one contractor came out one time for my air conditioning service and never came back and AHS had to send another contractor to fix the problem but I had to wait some days.

    I really enjoy having American Home Shield because it helps in an emergency or if something like a plumbing issue comes up. All you’re going to do is pay $75 for the payment and then the rest gets covered pretty much, than having to pay the whole amount which will probably cost you a lot if you have a big leak like the one we had to submit a claim for most recently.

    American Home Shield replaced an electrical contactor on my furnace. The company that I had with my yearly inspection in spring and fall for my air conditioner and furnace were with AHS so when the service man came out to check out my system before winter, he found we had a bad contactor. He then told me to call AHS. I gave them a call and within 30 minutes after I talked to them the company called to make an appointment to be back out to exchange the contactor. They came the very next day and repaired it, and everything has been great since.

    I'm very well satisfied with AHS. I had a problem with one of their other contractors for my air conditioner because I could not find out when the repair was going to be made. AHS took them off the list for coming to my house and the new company is fantastic. I've been with AHS for several years and had quite a few repairs and they've helped me out.

    I called AHS for svc to my heater as it was not warming. They gave me the number to Island Breeze HVAC. I had a recent surgery which made me a high risk for pneumonia and I could not wait for them to come as I had the hospital appt that date and would not be home. I explained this to the company and to AHS. I was on the phone literally for 2 hours with AHS asking them to send a different company because they could only service me 2 days later (at which date I had to return to the surgeon). I spoke to several people at AHS whom were all rude and unhelpful and just kept putting me on hold. Rachel (supposedly the Manager and the ABSOLUTE RUDEST of all) kept repeating the same thing, in essence "we can't send a different company because they are willing to come within their 72 hour window and because you called to request rather than request online." I don't know what else she was telling me I should've done.

    Hours on the phone, I then asked for some type of compensation for all the hassle and land their inability to service me. It was a straight out "NO". I hung up from Rachel and immediately called the Island Breeze because I knew they were busy and it was the first cold snap. I wanted to free them up for another service call. I spoke to Donna again and told her to cancel the service call. She repeated "you want to cancel" and I replied yes. She said okay and I asked her for a cancellation confirmation number, she said "there isn't one because there will be no service".

    Fast forward October 5th. I receive a service charge fee of $75.00. I call AHS and explained. I was transferred to 4 different people, on hold for more than an hour, and everyone said the same thing, Island Breeze says you never canceled and you didn't SAY the word "CANCEL" when you spoke to us, you have to pay". I asked to speak to another Supervisor, after 38 minutes Thomas came back on the line and said "Rachel will call you back, she's in a meeting, and that's the same one you spoke to last time when you wanted to be compensated for us not being able to send a different company". AHS is a RIP OFF and Island Breeze (Donna) DO NOT TELL THE TRUTH! Steer clear of BOTH!

    For the most part, it's been good when I've used American Home Shield. We did have one issue with them regarding a leak on the sink. I work until 3 and they seem to have a problem having somebody come out at that time. Then they got Plumb Perfect do it. The guy came, looked at it, said that there's no leak and then left. He was here for 5 minutes only. I've heard several other people that I've worked with that they didn't like Plumb Perfect too. I paid to have someone, regular rate, to come out and fix it because it was a leak. Other than that, I was most surprised when American Home Shield replaced the motor of a nearly 20-year old dryer. It's still working fine until now.

    I had issues about my furnace so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. It was uncomplicated, quick and easy. The contractor was very nice but because it wasn't solved, he had to come back. The part that I need had to be approved and ordered so he came out by my schedule two days later since I'm only available on Sunday. I made the earliest appointment possible so I wouldn't tire off my off day, and he kept the appointment time.

    He was very professional, straight to the point and I have no complaint. He was also real clean and I was impressed that he thought enough to do that. Everything's fine now. As a matter of fact, when he came out we were having a cold spell and then the day after that it was almost 80 degrees so I didn't need a furnace. But everything's been working fine. So if I needed to call them for anything, I would definitely call them again.

    We have had AHS for nearly 8 years and have found the technicians do a good job; however, my compliant is about the manner in which AHS does not assist their customers in getting a technician out on a timely basis. 24 hours is MORE than enough time for any company to contact an AHS customer --- not 48 hours!!!!! Our Air Conditioning unit upstairs has been out now more than 24 hours and I am being asked to wait another 24 hours before AHS will put in a request with another company. This is totally unacceptable!!! This has happened so much over these last 8 years that in many cases we have just cancelled our request and have paid for repairs out of our own pockets.

    Then WHY have AHS???? We are now asking that question AGAIN!!! I know that a company has to have some guidelines, however, yesterday I was told by the AHS customer service representative that if we had not heard from the assigned air conditioning company by this morning that she would re-assign our claim. The AC company did call me about 20 minutes yesterday after I called AHS. However, I was in the bathroom and missed the call. Since then I have had my phone glued to myself. I have called dozens of times and sent them an email, but have received no response by phone or email thus far. How can I ever give your company a good recommendation when this is how you do business. Some of your guidelines need to be changed in order to assist the customer better.

    I am very happy with American Home Shield. We have been getting what we wanted, and we’ve had no problems or issues. Our water heater just broke down and they replaced the whole thing. We only had to pay $75 coming in and $107 for the connection of our cover. We're very happy because I have two little ones and we couldn't live without hot water for too long.     The contractor showed up as scheduled and work was accomplished. They replaced the Freon in the air-conditioning, which fixed the immediate problem but went out again about 5 weeks later.     I called AHS July 2014. The plumber they sent was very unprofessional. He took my 75 trade fee to inspect the repairs and said he would come back. He never showed up again. Called AHS several times. AHS said they were trying to get a hold of the plumber and would call me back. They never did. Filed complaint in January 2015. AHS sent out another plumber that did not complete the repair. I have water leaking on my floors and at this point I have damage to my tile and hardwood floors. I have many emails proving our discussions for any that doubt this is real.

    The last conversation was when Anterial ** from AHS sent me an email stating she was working with the 2nd plumber to get a cost to just give me a cash out to fix the items myself. That was in Sept 14th, 2015. I have emailed and called Anterial many times with no response. It's absolutely ridiculous that a company is more than happy to pull money out of my account and not honor their agreement. If you want to donate money buy a warranty with AHS. If you want your home fixed I would buy somewhere else! Very frustrated.

    I had a claim with AHS for 2 things, my washer and microwave. My washer got clopped up and the conduction oven of my microwave blew up after I moved in the house. Sparks were coming out and black stuff are flying out of it. We got a contractor to come out right away and they told me what was wrong with the units. However they took a couple months to finally give all the information to AHS for me to get the money to buy new ones. The delay wasn't AHS' fault though.

    I've been customer of American Home Shield for almost two years and we have used them several times since we had them. Every one of the contractors they have sent to us have been timely. We had a problem with our water heater tank and they had people come here quickly to fix it. Their service is worth the money that we've spent and we're very pleased with the service people that they've sent.

    We had two recent claims with them. One was regarding the control panel on my swimming pool and the other one was regarding my cooktop. We have remote controls for our swimming pool and the control panel part of it, the circuit, blew out in one of our wonderful thunder and lightning storms here in Florida. I talked with the American Home Shield representative by telephone and it took a few minutes. They sent out the Norbert Pool company to service and do the repair. The contractor called later in the afternoon to say that he'd be available between 9 and 12 in the morning of the next day to come and check out and see if he could find out what was wrong with the system.

    The contractor came by the very next day. He was here at 10 after 9 in the morning, spent about 20 minutes going through various things on the control panel, and explained to me what needed to be replaced. Then he said that he would have one of his service people back the next day, sometime between noon and 3 in the afternoon.

    Within the promised time period, the contractor and his technician were here. They even told us we didn't have to be at home, but I was at home then. I stuck my head out back and asked them to let me know if there was anything that they needed to let me know. He knocked on the door when they finished and asked me if I was familiar with how to use the controller. It was a duplicate controller so there was no problem. They were in and out within 40 minutes of arrival to fix it. Since the repair, the performance is a 100% and it's the way that it's supposed to be.

    Then we have another claim with the cooktop right now. What keeps holding up the repair is that GE has a lot of parts, so we're collecting them as they come in, and then we'll have the service people back in to fix the cooktop. But that's the only thing that we've had to play with. With everything else, they've been fast in getting things done.

Said it was unfixable so they didn't make any repair. They ended up replacing it. Their representatives were very courteous. They didn't take a long time for them to put my claim together. Their contractor, Greenway air condition service, are very knowledgeable. The two young men they sent out to install my unit were great. It didn't take them a long time to do it. Even though I haven't used it frequently, I know it's gonna be very beneficial for next summer because it's an energy efficient unit. That will probably gonna cut my utility bills tremendously. I like doing it online and the contractors they contract with usually call me right back, within a few minutes to schedule an appointment. I like the service. It's very valuable and everyone should have it. I always tell people that I talk to that they need to get it. It makes one be at ease.     It's a problem that I keep trying to get my items fixed but they don't seem to have the people to fix it. This is the third time I've had a company come out and the people that they are working with don't know what they're doing or they can't fix it, it's not their scope of products. I'm paying these people to come out for a product that they say they can fix then covered under the warranty. But every time, the American Home Shield somehow finds a loophole or, "Oh, that part is not covered." It's a big runaround and I'm pretty dissatisfied.

    American Home Shield is very good except they keep raising the price. It started $40 a month, then $45 and so on until it's now $75. Recently, they did my microwave oven. I called them then they got it fixed and cost me $75. A month later, I called them again and the guy said that the microwave couldn't be fixed. It cost me another $75. He said he would contact AHS and they would give me credit towards a new microwave, which I had to purchase a new microwave. But on a positive note, I had a problem with my air-conditioning unit a couple of years ago and they fixed that with no problem. They replaced it and I haven't had an issue with it since. And AHS do respond. You call them and within a couple of days, they have somebody come out.

    Overall, I'm 74 years old and live on a fixed income and it's nice that when something goes wrong with the appliances, it'll only cost you x amount of money to have somebody come out. But again, every time somebody comes out, it's a minimum of $75 plus it costs me $52.50 or $55 a month for my enrollment with AHS so I spend $600 a year if nothing goes wrong, and that's tough for a senior citizen like me. When you get to be in a fixed income and appliances do go out and problems do happen, I think they ought to give some reasonable thing for a senior citizen.

    I've had American Home Shield since I've lived in my house, around 20 years. I called them recently because of my washing machine. It was very easy submitting a claim to them. I don't do the automatic because I like to talk to people, and it was excellent with their reps. The man they sent was also very good. He came and found the problem. It wasn't the machine. It was something that was stuck between the machine and the inside. Since he left, the washing machine's been excellent. Now it's full of water and clothes.

However, it took 12 days to replace the water heater and I thought that was too long. I was not happy with that. Normally, a plumber repairs those around in their trucks and can do it the same day. But for some reason, the contractor had to get the water heater from AHS. I guess they had to order it from some place. But since the repair, it's been working okay.     My recent claim with AHS for my washer went very well. However, I chose to use as a repair person because everybody else was on contract hold. I had to wait 2 weeks for them to get to me but when they came, they did a good job. They repaired the washer within about 5 minutes and it's been working fine so far. I was very dissatisfied with my claim for the air conditioner though, but that was because of the contractor. There was not anything that AHS did other than not solving the problem quickly enough. It took me from July until two weeks ago, with two lousy contractors, to really get the air condition to what it was supposed to be. It was the worst experience I've had since having American Home Shield for 11 years. AHS should do background work on their contractors before getting them.

    I've had AHS for years. I've had dishwasher and refrigerator repair, and then on a ceiling fan that caught fire. I only had one experience with them that wasn't particularly bad - the repair man did not repair my air conditioner properly. When I called back, a supervisor came out and picked up on it. I eventually had to get a new unit anyway. I also had to have new faucets one time that the repairman said that they don't cover. I had to hire another plumber to come and put them in, and I was a little sad about that. Some people don't like paying that monthly fee and not using it. I started with $50 and it has gone up to $75 now. But I think, "What would a dishwasher man charge me to put a new motor in?" So it makes a difference. AHS covers almost everything and I would never do without it.

    I have worked with and loved AHS in the past on other homes that I owned. This time I do have a complex issue it appears but there is no way to get any assistance. I cannot order service online because I have an existing order. 3 plumbers have been dispatched to find & fix gas leak behind stove. None have been able to do any work on this. Today I was on hold for 1 hour with the gas company and then 2 hours with AHS trying to get in touch with a supervisor. Finally talked with a supervisor who promised to help me and to call me back after he talks with his manager. No call yet. Another day has now gone by with NO repair. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Updated on 1/27/2016: Just an update regarding my experience with AHS. "CW" was kind and attentive when we first spoke about the matter. And, she did what she promised to do. I received a very small (4%) check from AHS toward my almost $20,000 bill for repairs. I ended up going 3 weeks in total with no gas service to my home. The first week was spent waiting for some/any assistance from someone at AHS. To be honest, I was frustrated almost to tears while calling them each & every day then waiting for a S "Supervisor" to call me back. I finally received a call from "CW" because of my review on this website. So - it is good to know that AHS is monitoring the reviews on this site.

    As it turns out, the house had major leaks in the gas lines everywhere and almost every gas pipe under my entire home & out to the main gas line in the street was replaced. I hired a great plumbing company on my own and they spent 6 days working 12 hour days to get this done. This included busting up my driveway, tunneling to the house, installing all new pipes in the crawl space & replacing my Hot Water Heater with a Tankless system. You can imagine the labor charges. The old Water heater was leaking gas so badly that it needed to come out. I chose to replace it with a tankless system. That did cost a bit more & I expected to cover that portion (about $5000). Total repair bill was nearly $20,000.

    AHS agreed to about a 4% reimbursement that has now been paid and I am grateful for that & for CWs reassurances. It turns out that because some of the work was out in the front yard connecting to the main line & gas meter out near the street that this is not covered by AHS. Socalgas says It is the homeowners' responsibility to repair any pipes on the house side of the gas meter. It was not under the house itself so not covered by AHS. (if I understand it correctly). So - Yes, this has been resolved in that I have gas service to my home, And I received a small reimbursement for the work done. I have a very large bill to pay off.

    However... My initial concerns about how this entire ordeal was handled by AHS still remain. Soon I will need to decide if I will purchase future coverage from AHS. (1st year was paid by seller of the home) I don't know how I should have handled this differently & what the process is for elevating an issue to upper management at AHS. How can 3 different plumbing companies be dispatched to my home that had no idea what to do or how to do it. How can I go for days with no call backs from AHS supervisors. So what should I do now? Do I purchase future coverage from AHS?

    The washing machine was leaking. I don't have access to Wi-Fi where I was at that time so I had to turn in the claim over the phone, and there was a ten-minute wait. I'm doing construction work and I didn't want to wait so I called the president's office and they took care of it there, because there was another issue. The service provider had not submitted the payment for the last one and it wouldn't let me submit my service order because it said that I owed money. The next morning I had a call from the repair people and they were able to schedule and come out the following day. The contractors they sent were great and very personable. They were able to answer my questions and explain to me what went wrong. They troubleshoot my air conditioner quickly and were in and out in less than an hour.     I’ve not had a bit of problem with American Home Shield. They're responsive and professional. The AC contractor that came out most recently, Myers out of Birmingham, is a really good outfit. AHS needs to hold on to them. The other one that I had was okay. Only problem was they started a preventive maintenance program where you could buy into it and get two inspections on your air conditioning a year. I guess it was non-profitable for them so they quit it. But I went with Myers. They offer it now and I do enjoy that because a pound of prevention is worth an ounce of cure.

    There's a drain when the air conditioner runs and then the moisture fills up from the evaporator where it overflows outside a house. In my air conditioner's case, the drain was plugged up where it wasn't draining to my drain lines in the house. What American Home Shield found out was once they put a Nitrogen bottle to clear out the line, that's all it was. But the water was coming down because of the slope - it came down in my ceiling and it was dripping inside the hallway. It turned out to be not a major repair, but I was happy that they were able to figure it out.

    Since the repair, we've had a lot of hot spells and haven't had any moisture coming down the walls so everything is good. Also, their contractors sent were awesome. They were more like a family-owned business and they were professional, and I was happy with them. My experience with American Home Shield, the times that I've had to use it has always been great.

    American Home Shield has been good to me for many years. I recently had my backyard Jacuzzi heater fixed. They gave me the person I had requested right away. It was who they had given me about a year ago when I had a problem. It got taken cared of. AHS called me to ask me if it was done and I said yes, "It was." They use reputable people. If you don't like the people they use, they'll send somebody else out. If you like the people they use, they will recommend them again if something happens to that product and they will make sure that they come out to your house.

    Their prices are a little outrageous. Their premiums are a little outrageous especially for people who have their policies and don't have one or two calls a year out. They've increased their prices over the years from $50 to $60 to $70 a call, on top of the premium that you pay. Their premium is a little pricey, but if something goes wrong in the house, you'll be glad you have them.

    My most recent claim with AHS was a nightmare. We had three separate vendors, and it took almost a month to fix my washing machine. The first guy did not know what he was doing, was very rude, and didn’t get close to fixing the machine. He said to me, "You can't watch me while I repair your machine because it makes me nervous." He should be in a different business. Then they sent another guy who had fixed some things for me before. He was a really sharp, really smart guy, but he missed it, and didn't get the right thing that was broken. He replaced the drum in the machine and some other parts, and it worked when he tested it. But as soon as he left, I put a load of wash in, and it didn't work. Then his brother died and therefore he left for three weeks, so we couldn't call him back.

    We then called American Home Shield back and they sent another vendor, who misdiagnosed the first time and it didn't work. Then they said that they have to take it out, so they took our machine to their shop and they kept it for two weeks. In the meantime, we had to rent a washing machine because our dirty laundry was piling up. When they finally brought the washing machine back it was working fine. I was unhappy with the fact that it took so long and it was a critical piece of equipment, and we had to rent one that cost us 70 bucks, which I thought my policy should cover, but did not. Overall, I had a very good experience with AHS, and I recommend them to people all the time. The policy and the product has been exceptionally good, with the exception of some times when I get bad vendors.

    I've been with American Home Shield for probably 18 years. They had a provider that he first time they came they took an awful long time working on my air conditioning. And I did have to pay extra because Home Shield only covers $10 per pound of freon and they charge like $55 or $65. I ended up paying $200 extra. The air conditioning worked for a few months, and then after 90 days, the unit was not working again. And so they sent the same company out. The technician was up on the roof for 2, 2 and a half hours in a 110 degree thing trying to do something. I don't know what he was doing. Finally, he concluded that the freon was leaking again. And I said I put enough freon in both units when they were off the first time, but he said it need some more. So I ended up paying another $225 extra for the extra freon fee.

    I was spending $500 on freon within 3 or 4 months. And that was very aggravating to me. The guy could not even fix it because it was only working one day. I called him back and they couldn't send him out for 4 days. So I was without air conditioning for 4 days on one of the units. I have 2 units - one on the bedroom side, one in the front. I had to sleep in the living room, and my husband was very uncomfortable. The guy came back after 4 days because it was over a weekend. He came out and spent another several hours and couldn't fix anything. He said he think there's this leak that he couldn't find and that we have to send out another company. So while he was still here, I called American Home Shield, and the lady said they have to send in a report in order for them to send out another technician.

    Of course, he didn't send the report on the same day. He sent it on the next day. So that took another several days for them to send out another company. When the service man came, he spent not more than 10 to 15 minutes on the roof and came down. He said, "Your compressor is shot." I said fine, so then he said "They will call you from American Home Shield and give you the quote. You have to pay." So I ended up paying the fee. But what really got me was that I paid $500 for the freon and I had to pay another $300 for the new freon that they put on the new unit that they put in.

    The company who was here were very professional. They were very fast. They ordered the air conditioning unit. They brought in the crane, and everything was fine. But what bothered me is that I had to pay twice. I can understand the first one because it worked for 3 months. But then the second one, the guy came out twice within this one week, and he was not qualified to do anything. I called American Home Shield and said I really feel like I shouldn't have to be paying the second time when the guy came and charged $225 for this freon that never was in there and never even worked. And they said they only covered $10 and that's some kind of state law. They did not cover that. One lady said I will be getting reimbursed, and then they sent me a letter that I wasn't getting reimbursed. So it was just very upsetting to me.

    Before, I never had any trouble with them. This was the first time that I really had trouble. Except one time when I had to have a new faucet, they only cover the chrome faucet. I didn't want the shiny chrome. I said I paid the difference to upgrade it to stainless steel, but the lady says "No, you have to pay the whole price. You can't get just the upgrade, you have to pay the whole price. If you want the nickel faucet, you have to pay for the nickel faucet." So that got me annoyed. I said it would have been better if I just paid the upgrade instead of paying for the whole different kind that the only option I had was the nickel one. So my experience has been a little bit stressful.

    They really let me down. I told them I don't ever want them to sent out that company again. I do not want to have these guys come out because these are not qualified people. And it was a new company that they had. But the second company that came that installed it were very nice and very professional. And they knew what they were doing, so I had no trouble with them. There were actually two incidents with the first company. I had a plumber out, a lady plumber, and she was here before so I knew her. She was here and she had another guy with her who she was training. And I gave them the $75 check. She called me and said the check flew out their car window and they lost it. But she said "American Home Shield will bill you" but I never got a bill. I had to call for the air conditioning and the guy said "You owe $75 for the last thing." I said they never sent me a bill for it. I had to put a stop payment on the check.

    Luckily I used to work for the bank so they don't charge me. It would've been a $30 fee for a stop payment. I didn't have to pay it. But the company should be responsible for that because that is not fair. I had them charge my American Express so I could get service for the air conditioning. That company caused a lot of trouble. They're really stubborn. In my 16-17 years with them, this year was the first one that I had trouble with them.

    I would still recommend AHS to a friend because I don't want to say that they're not a good company based on this one experience. I think they're a good company, but they happened to hire somebody that's not as qualified. They've always been very helpful. All the other service people I had always did a great job and I didn't have any trouble with them.

    Our AC (Geothermal) went out in July. I opened a ticket, got a quick response. That is where the experience goes south. The company they assigned to me did not contact me, so I contacted them. They plainly said they were too busy to make it to my location. So I called AHS and they verified what I told them with the company. They could not find anyone else for a GT system so I offered the company that installed it in 2004.

    The company did not like doing work with home warranty companies so I got approval from AHS to have them do the work through their Outside Authorization process, and have the reference number to prove it. This is essentially where I pay the bill and AHS pays me up to the limits on the repair. This was a two week process in the heat and humidity of July/August when temps inside the house were running 95 degrees and literally hours on hold. The bill was roughly $2,900.00. I sent in the invoice with the reference number to the specified address they gave me. I have heard nothing since. I have contacted them twice through the web page with the reference number, phone number, and email. No response at all. Tried to call CS once, but hung up after 30 minutes of hold. I would like a response from them email or call.

    Updated on 11/27/2015: I have to post a new review as AHS will not answer the last one, and I wanted to inform everyone on the situation. They have decided that I am not entitled to reimbursement because they say the contractor did not contact them. However, the contractor says they did. The thing that really gets me is it is a covered part and they had NO contractors in my area they work with. So although I got the authorization from AHS, they informed me that they have decided to deny my claim as they cannot approve a repair that is already complete. Perfect catch-22 situation. Buyer beware!

    Worst Customer service and care experience I am having with this company. It is one of the expensive home warranty plan I took assuming that the service will be in accordance with the price and advertisements. My Service issue is not being resolved and it's me who is following up again and again. I filed this claim for my Dishwasher on Aug 17th and since then there are total four technician visits - that too upon my following up (looks like they don't care unless you follow up). On first visit, I got the 'expert' advice of adding vinegar to wash cycle. Which I followed but nothing happened. Then on second visit I was told that some part needs to be replaced. One week later the technician came back with the part and tried to replace but gave up saying that it will damage the property!

    Again I did not hear anything from AHS and called them, this time spoke with supervisor after being put on looong hold. The supervisor scheduled another technician visit and this new technician came and said "Machine is too old. Try changing your detergent"! Which I tried but it did not help either. I waited for AHS's call but as usual no one called for any follow up so at last I called them again. This time they said that Technician filed the report that machine can be repaired and they advised to change the detergent! I asked the associate to transfer my call to the supervisor, she said she is transferring my call and put me to listen to some music hold... I kept waited for 20 minutes in anticipation that my concern will be addressed by supervisor but it was not answered... I had to hung up... WORST HOME WARRANTY COMPANY AS I EXPERIENCED.

    AHS sent a water heater contractor out to our house and he was foul, spoke bad and had a big chip. He told AHS that he wouldn't do it for the money AHS was paying him and he wanted 470 dollars more. AHS told us that they were paying him 375 to do the job and supplying the water heater. After paying AHS for 13 years at 48 dollars a month and never having a claim, they send this company out and I have to pay another 470. AHS refused to send another contractor out, so I am cancelling and going to Lowe's or Home Depot and getting them to install because they will stand behind their contractor. I hope my insurance company will get some money out of AHS. I will put my 7500 dollars that AHS doesn't appreciate into a savings account with interest.

    Updated on 11/23/2015: I do not wish to write a private response to American Home Shield. I want everyone to know that after 13 years and never a claim once, I had to ask for a water heater replaced. And they said "NO!" Yes it is covered but they insisted on a plumber known in this town for overcharging the home warranty companies and AHS knows this and tells me that they will not use another plumber that does a good job and does not overcharge for items not needed. They insisted that I find another way to replace my water heater by giving me 375 dollars and to cancel my insurance with them. I am to go to my home insurance company and tell them that the plumber contracted by AHS did damage to my property and they will have to subrogate against AHS for the damage and the 2 weeks loss of use of my home.

    I am to go to Lowe's or Home Depot and open a no interest credit card with 20% discount to buy the water heater and hire their technician to install it so it will be covered by their insurance if the contractor makes a mistake. I have to take the 375 dollars from AHS and apply that to the cost and then use the insurance money to pay it off and while I wait for that to come in use the 48 dollars I would pay them to make payments on the credit card. That is AHS solution! They have my 8 thousand and are ready to say 'see you later sucker; on to the next sucker'. Folks this is their solution and I suggest you read this good. Start now saving your money in an account you control and do not give it to this company. If something happens they will not provide a good contractor and they DO NOT stand behind their contractors, read that again. The rest of the plan is a ok.

    My motor in my heating and air unit caught on fire so I put in a claim with American Home Shield. I called them on a Friday night, so I didn't get anybody out till Tuesday. The contractor they sent was very nice and polite, and knew exactly that he had to replace the motor. I really liked him. He went upstairs and said "This is your problem. The motors burned up." I had bought a new digital thermostat to go upstairs and he put it on for me which was sweet of him. They apologized they couldn't come before Tuesday but he was right on time.

    I had a problem with the refrigerator and if I had known what was wrong, I could have fixed it myself. But I didn’t know what was wrong ‘cause I didn’t know how to take the part off. The techs came out when they said they were going to come and they were quickly able to diagnose the problem and tell me how to fix it. It was really simple. This is the second time I’ve had somebody come out, but for different things, and both of the contractors were very polite and fixed everything very fast.     All the interactions I've had with AHS have been okay. The only thing that was a surprise to me was when I had to call a plumber out before and it was an additional $200 if they have to dig. They sent a letter confirming the fact about the digging that had to done to replace the pressure valve outside and referred me to the section of my contract. I wish I had been told when I called that it was an outside issue and that they have to dig. I wasn't prepared and I had to take some money from somewhere else to pay. I don't like financial surprises, and for the amount of digging they did, I could have gone out there with a spoon and dug it up.

    But other than that, the main thing was them getting in here and getting that leak contained in the ceiling because they did some damage. Before I let the plumber touch anything, I said "Now do you have to remove that cabinet? Cause if you do, I need to know now. Cause I don't want any financial surprises." Because they said something about access to the area that has to be fixed but he was a nice plumber. He came and said "No, I don't have to take that cabinet down." I appreciated that. It went from home warranty to homeowners insurance and it was a good experience. I'm glad I had the home warranty. Then a couple days after that they came back to do a rough patch in the ceiling and it was definitely a rough patch because I had to have some work done in the kitchen and the contractor was not happy with the way that rough patch looked and it all worked out good. I have recommended them to people.

    I had called American Home Shield out to fix the air conditioner, it was a capacitor and they fixed it promptly. I was happy with what they did, it was done properly and efficient. Then I called PG&E, they were putting in free blowers on the air conditioning unit. They came out but they said they couldn't put it in because the heater didn't work. And I thought, well the capacitor, it's a dual pack unit so it does both. I called AHS back, making an assumption that it was still going to be covered because it's still the same unit. But it wasn't and it was kind of disappointing. The funny thing was that AHS wouldn't fix the heater because they said they were separate things and it wasn't connected to the air conditioner, while PG&E wouldn't install the blower because they said the heater didn't work and they were connected.

    It was one of those stupid things that made absolutely no sense to me logically and yet I couldn't get what I thought I should get. But both things were handled quickly, prompt and efficiently since they were all fixed but I thought it was kind of strange that PG&E would think one thing and say one thing and AHS would say just the opposite. They just said, "Hey we can't fix it." They said they don't have any control over, and that's what AHS says so they don't have any choice. But other than that, they were very good, efficient, and pleasant. The work was done properly.

    Majority of the things that AHS contractors have repaired have been very good. However they have a few contractors that I've had to put my foot down and won't allow back on the property again. One destroyed my pool pump and left the equipment unhooked, so I had a geyser when I got home flooding the neighbor and debris left around. I complained about this contractor three years in a row every time AHS tried to send them. I had to fight AHS over this last time, but we got through it and it worked out in the end. I also hate AHS' automated call line since it cuts me off and will not let me through to a customer service representative. It assigns a contractor without giving their name, only the telephone number. I don't have internet at home. Nevertheless, I always recommend AHS.

    American Home Shield is great. I have two rental properties covered by them. The first one I had to have the hose on the washing machine fixed. It was and they were wonderful. But I had trouble with the ones that dealt with the air conditioner. I was upset because they called me on the phone saying that they’re going to take $100 co-pay out. I said: “Okay. That’s $100, right,” but they took $160. If they charged extra for the refrigerant, I wouldn’t have minded that but they should’ve told me they were taking $160 out, not just do it and not tell me. Another problem is they’ve been out to the house twice and still didn’t fix the problem and now they have to come out again. It’s just that one contractor I’m having problems with.

    I put in a claim with AHS because I had a stucked-up drain line. I called and made an appointment and I was contacted by a plumbing company. Then, the plumber came out the next day. They did a snake and they tried to clean out or unclog the problem. Then, they said they couldn’t fix it, that they would have to access it through the vent and that they were not authorized to do that. Then I got a call from AHS telling me that our contract agreement stipulates they cannot go through the vent - that it’s not covered. But okay.

    Then I called my own plumber and he came out a couple of days. He didn’t have to go through the vent. He just went through one of the drain lines, did it in 10 minutes, and it’s fixed. So I was out of $145 dollars to AHS. I have submitted a letter to the complaint department. The plumber who came out here was either incompetent or didn’t really want to finish the job. Once he got his $125, I don’t know what the case is, but didn’t help me, honestly, and I had to pay $120 for another plumber to come and it took him less than 10 minutes to fix the problem.

    Our water heater needed a part. It took almost 3 weeks to get the part so I had no hot water. Every time I call, I'd get the runaround from the plumber. They'd say, "We got it" but then they didn't show up and didn't have the part. It got very frustrating. So I called American Home Shield to complain. It took almost 3 weeks to get it fixed. The problem is the contractors have to contact American Home Shield to get authority to get the part. They don't expedite the part so it takes a long time. But claims submission is very easy, and the contractors were very good.

    We've had very good experiences with all the claims we've done over the years. My most recent claim with AHS was for the water heater. A very nice young man came and he was a veteran because he was really pleasant, fast and got all taken care of. After the repair, the water heater is working good.     We haven’t had any problems with American Home Shield. We’ve used it 2 or 3 times and it’s been good service. The automated system to set up a service call without having to be on hold is good because sometimes the hold time is kind of long just to talk to an agent. And they give you the name of the company that they’re gonna send out. So that's good if you want to contact them on your own before you hear from them in case they’re too busy.

    I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my air-conditioning. I called and they said somebody would get with me within the next 48 hours. The service was fabulous. The air-conditioning unit has had very good performance since the repair. The only thing is the warranty which we pay for on an annual basis where they restrict a dollar amount for Freon, which is ridiculous because no place in the country can one get what they allow on American Home Shield. It's like seven times the amount. It seems like they have restrictions that other companies don’t have. They are restrictive but fair.

The freon limit is mandated due to the Enviromental Protection Agency phasing out on the most commonly used refrigerant (r-22). For futurue references you can always cash out for what we would cover for (the 10$ per lb) and use it to get your own company who may charge cheaper to do the work. But when I submitted a claim for my refrigerator, it was very difficult because we had to have several visits out here to get it done. The refrigerator had a multitude of problems.     We've used American Home Shield for a long time and it has always been very easy to submit claims. We submit the claim, get a call back, and hear from the contractor. Last time, we had an electrical plug in the floor that was loose. American Home Shield had an electrician come out and work on it. He did a great job and got it taken cared of. Now, it's working great. Every time we've dealt with them, they've been very good. It's hassle-free. They get the people out here and take care of the situation

    I recently submitted a claim for my ac and the performance has been good since the repair. Submitting a claim with AHS was easy and all their contractors are good. I would recommend them but the only problem is they don't work on Saturdays and Sundays. When I called they can do Monday through Friday. So if something has to be fixed urgently I don't how it will be done. Other than that, I like AHS so far and I have not had an issue with them.
