    I had to have an electrician come and fix my ceiling fan and light. The guy AHS sent out was right on time, answered all my questions and showed me what was wrong and fixed it.     The contractor came out and replaced our water heater because it was leaking and breaking. Submitting the claim was perfect. We call and the contractor came a day or two later, and then made an appointment, and he came right when he was supposed to. He's very nice and he did a really good job. The performance since the repair is fine. He set it at a good temperature and we're just thrilled to death because we had to pay the 75 plus a couple of another hundred dollars or so, but that's still cheap. We are very happy with this insurance. I'd recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

    I have a side-by-side freezer refrigerator. The ice maker was operating okay but the part on the door where the ice from the reservoir down to the dispenser had a quip in the flap. That allowed moisture to seep in and form thick frost. It clogged it up and I couldn't get any ice out. I contacted American Home Shield and in a short while, I got a call from the person that was assigned to repair it. He made an appointment and he was right on time.

    He looked at the refrigerator, observed it, told me exactly what was wrong with it and said he'd have to order a part. He made an operation by taking a cloth and towel and pushed it down in the throat where the ice could not fall all the way through and it blocked any air from going up in the ice maker and kept the frost down. He said if I leave that towel in there then I could lift up the reservoir and reach the top of it to get ice out. It'd be a little inconvenient but at least I could get ice while he was getting the piece mailed to him to repair it. Once he did that, I went ahead and paid him the $75 that I was supposed to pay. He ordered the part, told me he'd call me as soon as it got in and make an appointment to come back to put it on and that's exactly what he did. I was completely satisfied with AHS.

    We had two claims with American Home Shield around the same time, and I've been talking to customer service by phone. We set up the plumber for the leaking master shower then I called back with the second claim because our kitchen sink fell in, and I was informed that the plumbing would be covered but not the sink. I ended up calling back a third time because when I was researching online trying to find someone to help with the kitchen sink, I found that the plumbing company that they had signed to come for the shower was badly rated. I called back to express my concern and they said, "It doesn't matter what other people say. These people are contracted with them and that's who you're going to get."

    The company who did the master shower was fine. Despite the really bad ratings, I didn't have any hassle with the service man at all. The thing that was a little odd was he had to collect the $75 service fee before anything else. We had them come and do other things, they did all the repairs and then we pay the $75 at the end. This guy describes it as, “We collect the $75 first, we see what needs to be done, we have to call AHS, tell them what we found and get their permission to do the service.”

    I am happy with them. They've been very good with the other stuff that we've had done. We bought the warranty through the realty company when we bought the house, and it sounded everything is going to be covered. I've paid a whole lot of money for this insurance and I have to admit I almost fell over when they told me the sink was not covered because the sink fell off. It's an under mounted sink and it fell off of the granite countertop that it was attached to. On Tuesday, I paid a plumber $650 to reattach it. I don't understand why a sink coming off of a counter would not be covered by a home warranty. That left a really bad taste in my mouth for the experience.

    I was pleased with American Home Shield. It all went very smoothly and timely. They did recently our swimming pool equipment – the pump went out. Submitting the claim was easy. Sometimes it takes a few days to hear from the contractor through AHS but on this instance, I got contacted the next day. Then they took care of it and it has been good so far. The contractor was great and would probably hire them if we needed some other work done. It was a good experience.

    The toilet was stuck up so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I called and told them what the problem was, they put me on hold for just a couple of minutes to get someone to come out here, and they came back in the line with the phone number of the service representative. They told me that the service representative would call me within 24 hours to make an appointment, which they did. The contractors did a great job, and the performance of the toilet has been good since the repair. I have had several claims with AHS and all of them had been remedied.     I recently submitted a claim with AHS for a swimming pool and it is the first time that I've ever had a problem. The company that they sent out was horrible. Their office and customer service was awful. Something else happened to the pool and I had to get another company. American Home Shield and I didn't get along on this one because I requested a particular company that I knew was a service provider. Long story short, they sent JT Ultimate Pools, the company I originally wanted, and the pool was fixed with one visit. They were awesome. The guy explained so much to us and even told us how to take care of the pool better. He was wonderful, so I had no complaints with that company. Everything else has been good. Now, the pool is great! I love American Home Shield.

    The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was for a hot water heater that continues to go south. Submitting the claim is easy. Everybody's been nothing but nice, professional, responsive and listen to me complain for a little bit and then get on to fix the problem. So I got no issues with anybody that I've spoken with. I've had the same gentleman out twice and it'll probably be the same guy that comes out here tomorrow. He's thorough, he leaves no stone unturned. He's done everything possible to bring the hot water heater situation to resolution. Unfortunately, it's still not working correctly but no fault of his own. He's done everything he can. But the guy is always really respectful of our house, professional, nice, conversational and cracks a joke once in a bit. We like seeing him although we'd rather not but if we do, better it be somebody like him.

    American Home Shield has been good to me at this point. They are prompt, professional and descriptive. They're very thorough in letting us know what they're doing. They've left the door open saying, "Hey, if there's any additional questions, just give us a call and we'll come back out."     My disposal stopped working. I had gone to American Home Shield and they brought out a plumber. The plumber came and said, "It's not a plumbing problem. It's an electrical problem." He never opened it up and did anything. The electrician then was called through the company. The electrician came out and said, "Well, it was the vibration. It was at the bottom of the disposal, the wires had just come loose from vibration." He rewired it and it worked. The reason that I called in the first place was because there was liquid on the floor in the cabinet under the disposal, a considerable amount at the time. That's what caused the original call to the plumber. After the electrician left, I couldn't get it to drip anymore, so I called anyway. The plumbing company said, "Just watch it for a little bit."

    Ironically today I was underneath there and all that moisture was back, so I called the plumbing company early this afternoon and they are coming tomorrow. So bottom line is I've gotten very good response. I haven't gotten the problem totally solved, but at least everyone is willing to work on it. The electrical part of it is fine. It's still dripping so I still have a problem, but hopefully will solve that.

    My wife called American Home Shield to submit claims for a washing machine, a dishwasher, a stove, and a microwave. The guy from the appliance repair was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was very friendly and easy to get along with. He did what he said he was going to do. He was very professional, I'd get him again if I had to.

    He was more than happy to help and gave us the reason when he couldn't do something. On the washer, he said American Home Shield would probably deny it because it wasn't totally broken. The problem had to do with the transmission, and the machine was making a lot of noise. I don't agree with it, but it is the way it is. He also showed us some things on the dishwasher that made the difference. We were concerned that things weren't getting cleaned. He pointed out that since our water heater was upstairs, we run the water first and make sure we click on hot water. That made some difference. He also detected the problem on the microwave and the stove which he fixed, and we haven't had any problems then. Else, I wouldn't use their service that I did.

    The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was regarding my kitchen sink that was stopped up. I did it over the computer. They have choices and none of them really said exactly what was wrong. I didn't know if it was my dishwasher or if the sink was clogged or both. I couldn't put in both claims because it wouldn't let me do that. So I just went with the plumber and got the sink unplugged and that was better. The contractor they sent was really nice, really good. He was very thorough and fixed things. Since the repair, I think I may have to have somebody come out in another month if my sink doesn't start acting better. I don't know if it's something I'm doing or the garbage disposal is not working right or what, but it's still draining now. We tested it when he was here but something else must be going on. I haven't been here long enough to have somebody come out and do it again. Nevertheless, I've recommended them.

    Our experience with American Home Shield is usually very good. They've been terrific and everybody's been great. Recently, the tenants at my house thought there was a leak in the ceiling of the bathroom. It turned out that the shower head sprang into the ceiling. The contractor called and said, "Well, I got good news and bad news. Bad news is you still have the service charge and the good news is there is no leak coming through the ceiling." That's what we got for $75. I made the repair instead. I bought a new shower head on because I'm going to complain if the shower heads are replaced by the company. I've had that happen before and I replaced them. The shower heads that are allowed are pieces of junk so they should be upgraded.

    I love American Home Shield! I called them before because I had a broken pipe out on my water heater. Their representative was excellent. She set up the appointment, told me that she had somebody contact me and the next day she called to find out if they had called me and I said, "Oh yeah.They set up an appointment."     The most recent time we used American Home Shield was for our garbage disposal and everything went very well. It was very easy submitting the claim online. It was an item that was covered so it was on the list. I just had to click the list and hit submit. It wasn't a problem at all. AHS sent people from Clearflow who came early. They told me they'd come between 12 noon and 5 pm, but they told me around 11 o'clock that they were on their way. I wasn't at home that time and I had to stop what I was doing and get home. I was a little inconvenienced, but that wasn't much of a problem. They were prompt, courteous and they got straight to the business. They knew what they were doing and had the garbage disposal replaced in half an hour. They were in and out very quickly, which was good.

    In total, the experience with AHS has been fine. We used them back in 2001 as well to replace a furnace because the furnace company put the wrong style of furnace for our location. That's still running. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed with that service back then. But everything in the other times I've dealt with AHS has been fine.

I've used it twice and within five minutes, the company called me right back and they were actually willing to come out at 9:30 in the evening, so I was very pleased with the company as well.     About 2 years ago I had AHS come out for my pool heater not working. The control board had shorted out and the serviceman replaced it. I was happy. Fast forward to today--pool heater not working. Service man came out and said control board was shorted out. AHS refused to repair it this time blaming insects for the failure. They said they do not cover damage caused by insects. Have had a plumbing problem with a toilet that needed a new flange on it and they would not cover that because it rusted. They just try everything they can to not give you proper service. I have cancelled my contract with them. You are better off saving the money you would spend on the contract and apply to needed repairs. You will definitely come out ahead. Clark Howard who has a consumer radio and internet program says that home warranty products are not good. Wish I had listened to him.

    We didn't have any problems with the claim we submitted to AHS regarding our air conditioning system. We called the office in Little Rock and it was fine. It went through fast. One time we caught a representative, and on another instance it was an automated one. I'm not sure why but it was nonetheless easier than I thought to put the claim and information in. On the two occasions that AHS had to send technicians out, same guys have come. They're knowledgeable and professional. It didn't take long for them to get a system fixed. It was cool that they had parts on hand too. Since their repairs, it's been fine.

    We were also thinking about trying to add appliances, but it was explained to us that with American Home Shield, we have to purchase the actual appliance and then they'd reimburse us. But the thing is, if we're going to wind up having to save money for appliances anyway, we'll buy the appliances and not add them to the program instead.

They haven't given me the estimate yet and they had to check on the part. But other than that, the workmanship on my most recent repair was fine. Before, I could tell AHS more about the problem and the model of the unit that I have. That's not there anymore.     The last claim that we had was for the water heater. The contractor, AM PM, called us and they came out, looked at it, and replaced the whole thing. They came the day after because my husband was going to the hospital the next day. They were wonderful. One week after the repair, we called AM PM. They sent one guy out and found that the problem didn't have anything to do with what they did. There was a spout which is connected to an ice maker somewhere in the house. Our ice maker on our refrigerator had been redone probably a year ago and so he thought that was an incidental one. That was the only ice maker we had hooked up, so he turned it off. A couple of days later, it's still leaking so Tom turned it off even more. It has been fine ever since.

    They have been good with another repair but covered plumbing is really not covered since they only have one plumber in my area near Boston and that plumber does not even return their call. I have called dozens of time, talked to nice AHS employees who are not empowered to help. They have to turn it over to another department that customers cannot talk directly to and that for weeks have not resolved the problem. I have been doing dishes in a bathroom sink and cannot get any resolution. They are either grossly understaffed or just do not have anyone capable of handling it when their contracted plumber fails to respond. AHS told me they would replace my covered faucet with the same model but later said they would only replace the same features with a faucet of their choice. They promised repeatedly to call me back and never do. Be wary!

    I just moved into a new condo in April and there was a water damage that affected my furnace. The furnace went off completely. I was frantic when I heard about it, but my realtor reminded me that I had American Home Shield. Thank goodness. However, it did not go well with the first person I talked to. She made the process confusing, I couldn’t understand her. She kept asking me to repeat the same things over and over. I got upset and had to speak to someone else. Once I did, everything was fine. American Home Shield acted right away. They called the local heating service in Pittsburgh that they use and they were out the next morning.

    It took a couple of days to order the furnace, but when they came right out, they put my whole furnace in within about four hours. I was very well pleased with them. I knew them because it was the same company that came out to do some work on my furnace in my old house which I sold. They couldn’t have done a quicker, cleaner job. It was a very good experience.     My most recent claim was our freezer. It had a water leak in it and American Home Shield took care of it right away though they had to come back. Prior to that we called on the air conditioning unit because it wasn't working and the guy came out and replaced the capacitator and it started working, and then two weeks later which was just recent, it happened last week, it stopped working again. And they called the same guy out who fixed it a couple weeks ago and they said that I wouldn't have to pay an additional fee because it was within 60 days. So then he came out. He checked a couple of things. He said the air conditioning issue was an electrical issue and that he would contact American Home Shield to have an electrician come out because it wasn't getting power to the unit.

    That was in Thursday. So I stayed home all Friday waiting and it was Friday morning he came out. So I stayed home Friday afternoon waiting to hear if an electrician was going to come out and I never heard from American Home Shield and so Saturday morning, I had my husband call American Home Shield to find out what the disposition was because what the guy said was wrong. My husband said he had never heard of anything like that before and my husband has been in the construction business or the construction world for all of his career or associated with it. Anyway, I never heard from the electrician. So my husband called American Home Shield to find out when the electrician was coming and American Home Shield said they had no record that an electrician was needed. They were waiting still to hear from the air conditioning guy.

    In the meantime, before my husband called, we have a friend named Greg, a personal friend who's an electrician and he came over that morning because he and my husband were going out to a football game. While David was getting ready, I told Greg what the problem was and he took my husband's electrical tester and pulled the cover off our big fusebox and tested. And there was electricity coming out of the box to go outside to the air conditioning unit. Then he went outside to the air conditioning unit box and he checked if the electricity was coming in and it was hot. There was electricity going into the box outside and then he tested coming out of the box, outside that would go into the air conditioning unit and tested it out, and it had plenty of electricity coming out of the box to the unit. So it wasn't an electrical issue. It was an air conditioning unit issue.

    American Home Shield called the air conditioning company back that Saturday morning because my husband told them it's not an electrical issue. It's an air conditioning issue and the guy called me. They worked until noon and he called me like at 11 AM so he came on out and he told me basically that it was an electrical issue. I told him no and I told him what our friend had done. So he took the side off the air conditioning unit that he did not do on Friday morning and he looked right at it. He said 'Oh, there's a burnt wire.' So he went to his truck and got the replacement part and came back and fixed it. I'm in

    Miami, Florida and the rest of the country's getting cold but it's still hot and everything down here so air conditioning is very important.

    As soon as he replaced the wire and started the system back up, everything has worked fine. But he didn't quite do the full diagnostic when he came out on Friday to make sure it wasn't like a burnt wire. He said there was no electricity getting to the unit so he just assumed it was an electrical instead of it was because there was a burnt wire inside the unit. And the unit was getting electricity because there was a low buzzing sound. What he told me then was it was getting low voltage but it wasn't getting enough to run the system.

    Previously, we've had work on this air conditioning unit since we lived here for 18 months and we had multiple visits having it worked on through American Home Shield. And this is a new vendor they're sending here. The first time they came out and changed the capacitor, I said, 'Do I get a receipt?' after I gave him my check for $75. And he said 'American Home Shield will send you a receipt by email like within a week.' I said 'Really? I always get receipts from the vendors when they come out here. When I pay them they give me a receipt.' He said that that's how they do it. So he's real new with them and he's not up on their procedures and this is our third house with American Home Shield and so I'm very familiar with how they work. So I don't know if he is less expensive and that's why they've gone with them.

    I don't know what the situation is. He was responsive and then he came back out Saturday morning. But we were just fortunate that it hadn't become noon time or he wouldn't have been out before Monday for sure. I'm not frustrated with American Home Shield. They've always been good and responsive to us. But this vendor is not quite up to their or has not been up to the standards that I'm used to. I've only had one bad vendor the whole time I've ever used American Home Shield and that was here in Miami as well within the first week of moving into this house. But I already told American Home Shield I'll never do business again with that vendor so American Home Shield will never send them back out here.

    Other services and stuff with them have always been really well. It's just this one that's very bad, frustrating. But he's just new and don't know what he's doing. American Home Shield told me on the phone that I don't have to have a receipt and I said I had always gotten one in the past. I know everybody has to be cost-efficient but American Home Shield need to make sure that they have qualified people to work, to represent them. I'd still recommend them to a friend.

    I submitted claims for my stove and for our refrigerator. The stove would not stay lit and the refrigerator was icing up inside the refrigerator compartment. The contractor fixed them both on the same day. He looked at my stove and it was because I had put a piece of foil in the bottom of the stove to keep drips from getting on the stove itself, and in the process I covered up a ventilation hole so the way he fixed it was he removed the foil. I got real bright on that one.

    Then my refrigerator was a little more difficult. There was a drainage plug that had frozen over so when the refrigerator went into defrost mode, the water never drained out. It just formed the sheets of ice so he cleared that. It worked great for like a day or two but then I called them back because the icicles were starting to form again. He came back and he made some adjustments on the temperature gage. He checked some things and said that there was air getting into the refrigerator because the door was slightly bent so it wasn't sealing properly and building up moisture. Then he also checked the door of the ice dispenser and he said that it wasn't a tight fit so he adjusted that too so that it fit tighter. Everything's running great now and I recommend AHS all the time.

    So far, American Home Shield is the worst I've ever had. I had my appliance looked at to fix it. I've had to call three times to get somebody to respond. First, it took forever for the guy to come out here. But once he got here, it got taken care of. Then he submitted a report two and a half weeks ago and I've had to call American Home Shield. They said they would get back to me by yesterday with the model number that I'm going to get. I've not heard from anybody, so I'm a little upset. When the contractor came out, he said that it needed to be replaced. I called him back and asked him when he would send in his report. And he told me when so I called American Home Shield. They said they didn't have it so I called him back. He sent it in. I called them again and they said "Yeah we got it." The contractor is great. It's American Home Shield that's been the problem.

    There are six people in this house, so I'd like to get my washer back. How can I be satisfied when I had gotten nothing from them, no responses or anything after I was told I would get a response by yesterday. They say it's 24 hours to contact the warranty department or whoever it is that they contact to get the washer and figure out which one they're going to replace it with. I've heard nothing. I got nothing but lousy service with them.

    American Home Shield came out and took care of our water heater. They did a good job for us. Submitting a claim was easy. We had a water heater that started leaking and we got a problem because we just had a wood flooring put down and we're about to have it warped. So we drained that water heater and started immediately mopping up the water, every hour, all night long. I didn't even go to sleep and I just went out there and kept mopping up the water that was sitting at the bottom of the water heater and we don't know where the holes were. It won't leak because it takes such a long time to leak through that sediment but you had to go out every hour and mop that up or it's going to damage the new floor.

    It took a couple of days for them to get out and take a look at the water heater but when they did they agreed with us because it was dry when they came out but they said they knew that particular type of heater was bad. It doesn't have a very long use life. They said they'll take care of it. Sure enough, they put in everything on the truck and were rushed for time. They knew exactly what they were doing. They had their electrician do his part in a few minutes. Both of the technicians were well-rounded and knew what they were doing. We didn't get our e-copy of the bill after the service. They were going to call or message me. We did a follow-up on it yesterday to see if in fact we had got it. Maybe we just didn't put it in the right folder at the house but we haven't got it. We'll get it maybe in the next day or two.

    Previous to that, we were disappointed with our first claim which was our dishwasher. It didn't work at all when the guy left. We still have that dishwasher, but we're going to have it replaced. The guy told us, "We're going to replace it. This was really not a good one when it was brand new. I really can't much improve on it." He made it crystal clear that it is what it is, and we understood. We didn't like it but it was true - it wasn't anything that he could've fixed. We took that for what it was. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

    Our experience with AHS was exasperating. We're out in the desert and we are old people. We're at senior complex, huge, about 2,000 houses, so if your air goes down you're dead. And you have to go to a hotel or to somebody's house because it's so darn hot. It doesn't even cool down at night in that chair. So when our air conditioning went down six times this year, we had to make plans six times and it always happens on a Friday or a Saturday. We never even get to see anybody usually until on Monday then they have to get it approved and order the equipment so it's five or six days before anything happens and it's 109 outside. So that's the rub.

    AHS needs to get better contractors because we've had some idiots over here. We've had everything changed out that if it goes down now, it's got to be a whole new unit. We've also had a guy from Aldco Air Conditioning who was excellent. He went up there, looked at everything and found that it has been leaking liquid. Nobody ever checked that stuff but he went in and worked it. So my piece isn't necessarily with American Home Shield, it's with the people who are servicing the plan. They need to weed these people.

    I had one glitch with American Home Shield in the beginning. I said I was going to sign up if they'd send me a packet which they claimed they did but I never got it. So, I called back and finally got it, but it was a long drawn out procedure, much longer than I thought was necessary. Also, my sister begged me not to go with Home Shield because she had had a terrible incident but I found out it was because the contractor in her town felt that since he was the only one there, he could do the customers any way that he wanted. He said he did not have the money to buy the parts to fix what needed to be fixed and that he had to wait for the money to come from Home Shield.     I had American Home Shield come out to get my heating unit ready for the winter. Upon inspection, the technician realized that the whole unit was shut. He took the panels off and showed me that the drain pan was not functioning correctly. It leaked water onto the elements and rusted out the whole inside of the heating unit. He did all the paperwork for me. I signed it and they sent it to American Home Shield. The very same day, I got a call from American Home Shield and they told me that the claim had been approved, let me know what my out-of-pocket expenses would be and have somebody out. It happened on a Tuesday and by the following Monday my new unit was installed.

    The best thing about the process was I didn't have to do an extensive amount of paperwork. Everybody I spoke with was really helpful. The guys from the company that AHS sent out and did the work were two of the most professional and polite guys that I've had the pleasure of dealing with.     I've had two claims with American Home Shield for the refrigerator. One was on the ice maker. Sears couldn’t come out at that time so AHS had a local vendor from 15 miles outside Birmingham do it. I had a problem with some parts that were replaced and with air releasing around. I can blame myself for it though. I should have called American Home Shield, but I called the local vendor back. He said he'll order new parts and take care of it. This went on for three months, but he never came back to fix it. I called American Home Shield and Sears came out and fixed it. They were sharp and knew what they were doing. They always did the best job of anything they ever do.

    Shortly after that, I had another problem with the temperature in the refrigerator going down all of a sudden. I called American Home Shield and they put Sears on it again. But they were fully booked because it was going to be about two weeks before they could get out. I was afraid stuff in the refrigerator was going to fall so I reduced the temperature on everything to the maximum levels.     I've had wonderful experience with American Home Shield in the past. But at this point, my experience with them is not good and I'm very dissatisfied with the job and cleaning done on my heater recently. This is the second time I've had to wait, but never this long. My heater turned up cold so we definitely needed heat. When the contractor came here to fix it, they turned my gas off because they said I've got something cracked and they tried to order a part for that thing. Then they charged me $400 to clean the thing. This was on the 21st. American Home Shield said they didn't receive the ordered part until the 23rd.

    I called Myers and Myers and said, "It's not right to keep me waiting. You guys turned this in on the 21st, but submitted it days after. I want to know, what's the hold-up?" Myers and Myers said, "All I can do is tell you to call them because we have put the order in and we don't know what else to do. They're waiting on bidding a price on this part." That's when I started getting in touch with American Home Shield because Myers's hands are tied and there's nothing they can do.

    So I told American Home Shield, "If you can't get that part, then my contract calls for another system." My heater's not working, and nobody can give me an answer. A girl named Samantha is working on it and I told her, "If you don't have an answer for me, then you can have your company vice-president or president call me. I'm not having this. This isn't right for me to sit out here and be without heat." I want this fixed.

    Not only do I recommend American Home Shield, but I sell them everyday. I have a farmer's agency. But right now, I am not selling anything from them because I'm not going to have my clients upset with me. I even told the American Home Shield rep, "We're going to hold off and tell what's going on here. If you don't get my stuff fixed, I'm going to cancel every one of my contracts." I hope they do call me.

    I went online to submit a claim for an air conditioner repair. Within an hour, they sent a confirmation email stating that the claim was approved and they had us signed a repair company. The repair company wasn't able to get out until the following day, but since the repair, the performance of the air conditioner has been great.

    American Home Shield has been our extended warranty since we've owned our home and this isn't the first time we've had an air conditioner issue. One thing that is inherent to extended warranty insurance claims with different companies is that it takes exponentially longer to get replaced in repair parts under this program than it would be if we just paid our rate. Even after AHS approves the claim and approves the repair part, the repair company takes so long to get these parts. I asked the repair person why it takes so long and he said it is because of the insurance. I would recommend them because we've had very favorable experiences with them. Unfortunately, it's been about two weeks since the time we called and nothing's going to happen for another week and a half. We're without ice for that time period.     For our heating air conditioner (its ductwork had a hole in it), the first contractor called within hours to set up an appointment. They didn't have the exact piece that they needed. They patched it until they could go back to their shop and get the piece. They came back within a few days and got the AC repaired. On the other hand, everything with the plumbing job went well. The first plumber that they had on their list gave me the runaround for a few days so I called American Home Shield back. They set me up with a new plumber. I received the new e-mail confirmation with the contractor's name, then they called within 24 hours. They came and saw what the problem was and it all went well. We had to make access for him to get to the plumbing leak. We scheduled the time with them. They came out, fixed it and completed the work.

    Both contractors were really informative. They explained to me what the process is gonna be, showed me what they were going to do. Everything went through me. The performance was great since the repair. We've had to use the heating and air system a little bit but we could tell it had better performance since the ductwork didn't have a hole in it. Everything should be good with the plumbing too. We had to put a new floor in when we checked it out. We haven't quite got it back up but the contractor tried it out. We ran water down where the leak was to make sure the leak was repaired. We will take AHS up on our new house that we're purchasing.

    I called American Home Shield for a service provider so that if something was wrong with my furnace, I would not have to call yet another person out to fix it. And they did send someone out. It was very easy. I've not had any problem with any of their contractors and I've used them several times with different contractors. I've been very happy for the most part. My biggest issue with American Home Shield is sometimes they spend enough money on appointments and still refuse to replace an item when it's obviously costing them more money to pay for the repairs. They do everything possible to not replace anything. They bring it back to working condition so I can't say that's shady because it's not.

    I've had my furnace for 13 years now and the block has cracked twice. One would think that's the most expensive part of your furnace and after the second one, they might think about replacing the furnace, but they still did not. So they probably spent $1,800 to repair it twice. But my furnace is running and it's fine, so they did what they said they're going to do. They fixed it and it cost me $75 for a call. I would recommend it if you're buying a house that you're not sure about your appliances and the other things that are in it - your furnace, air conditioner, plumbing, all those kinds of things - because they will bring it back to working order. It's an insurance for peace of mind.

In fact they already did and the guy they sent is very knowledgeable. He explained everything that he was doing and what needs to be done.     Submitting the claim was very easy. I called and they told me someone would be calling me within 24 hours, and they did. The contractor that came for the garbage disposal was very prompt. I had asked him a couple of questions concerning the garbage disposal because it was a new home that I moved in and I couldn't understand why after two years the garbage disposal went bad.     We like American Home Shield. Our latest claim was for the freezer. The ice maker in it was broken again. AHS sent out the contractor and the freezer wasn't fixed after their visit because our ice was melting and there were silver flakes in our ice. The contractor had to come in again, realigned the flap and corrected that. They said that should be better. My husband was there and said we had just had our water filter changed and they said, “Well, that’s probably what it is.” No, that’s not what it was because we had had our water filter changed plenty of times before that. Plus, I’ve never had flakes come when I’ve changed a water filter. It only happened after they were done. The contractors said if it continues to happen over the next week or two to give them a call. They may have to change the entire line.

    It kind of sucks when I'm trying to get ice and can’t actually use the ice maker. I have to still go in and open the freezer and get the ice out of the door because I have to watch to make sure there’s no nasty stuff on top of it. The contractor should’ve just changed the line while they were working on the freezer instead of trying to make an excuse. But overall, I'd still recommend American Home Shield, though they should lower their price. They change my contract and I never know. AHS said, “Well, we mailed it to you.” But half the time we don’t get mail anymore like that.

    American Home Shield has a good, solid and quality customer service, and a good contractor base which makes them reliable. I recently submitted a claim online for the electrician to come, and it was easy. After I submitted my claim, somebody answered me back a little bit later that day and told me how soon they could come which ended up being in a day or two. The contractors were here at the time specified - they even got here a little bit earlier than their time which was fine. They fixed the problem quickly and they were very professional and friendly.     I submitted a claim for my dishwasher and the experience was one big nightmare I wouldn't want to have to go through. Then after two weeks we submitted a claim for our swimming pool and my only big complaint is it takes forever to get a real person on the phone like sometimes I have to wait for 30 minutes. But the contractor for our swimming pool was great. Our pumps had gone out and I called in a Tuesday morning, and they called me back within two hours to schedule an appointment. They scheduled it for Thursday between 10 and noon, and said the guy would call before he came. Thursday came. I got a call about quarter after 9 from Mike, the service technician, and he said he was running early and he was wondering if it would be okay if he came over. I said sure. He arrived before 10, had a pump on his truck, and he wasn't here half an hour to have it all fixed and going.

    It was a fine experience I had with American Home Shield and there were no problems. My most recent claim was in reference to some plumbing. They called me less than two hours after I put the request in online. Then the contractor came out and did the repairs the next day, so it couldn't be better.     I had a leaky toilet and kitchen faucet so I claimed for them with American Home Shield. Submitting it used to be terrible, but now it was very easy and I like it so much more because they have it online now. The contractor they sent to fix them was very nice and thorough. He was very good at explaining to me what he needs to do, and he even found a problem with my toilet I didn't know I had. I thought it was just the valve part of it but the steel between the tank and the toilet itself had gone bad. I'd probably ask for him if I called again and that company was assigned.

    It has been a pretty easy process to submit a claim. No problem at all with AHS reps. Technicians have been very knowledgeable and professional. They got the job done pretty quick.
