The contractor was very friendly, provided the requested 20 minute notice and arrived on time. He was knowledgeable of the equipment but It does not seem the issue was resolved and we requested a 'recall' service request. I believe problems are most often the most simple answer, and this appeared to be the case. However, three weeks later, the issue has persisted. It seems that the contractor will come back out to further investigate the issue.

I've requested American Home Shield's service about three times and have no issues. I get good service every time I call them and they give me options. When the company they initially gave me to fix my garbage disposal took too long, they gave me another one and it was quick. The second company fixed my garbage disposal and it was awesome. American Home Shield is good and I always recommend them.

I have heard many great things about American Home Shield. Everyone that I talked to before purchasing my home warranty told me how great it was. Unfortunately that hasn't been my experience. I've only had ONE contractor to be pleasant and accommodating. Every other contractor has been extremely rude.
I have called American Home Shield and shared my experience each time I've had issues with the contractors they are sending to my home. I am concerned the experiences of the customers are not being considered and nothing is being done about it. Each time I've been assigned a contractor, other than the ONE experience, I've read reviews on Yelp and other reviewing websites and have seen some very horrible reviews. Many reviewers shared the contractors were assigned through American Home Shield and they have had the worst experiences. I am concerned as a American Home Shield customer. If these are the vendors they are going to continue to use I will have to cancel my home warranty. The idea of a warranty is awesome but I will not continue to deal with vendors that are unprofessional, nasty, and very nonchalant about service delivery.

The technician tried to repair it but couldn't get the parts until March so American Home Shield decided to buy me a new refrigerator, which was great. I've already received the check. Submitting a claim wasn't difficult at all. The only time I talked with the contractor was whenever he called me and said he was having trouble finding the parts. American Home Shield sent over a vendor when I had an issue. I was so impressed with the contractor's work that I decided to get a maintenance contract with AHS. Originally, I had the vendor come to take a look, see and make sure everything was good for the wintertime. They found a problem that I suspected so I called AHS and told them that there was an issue. We waited for the service request number and then they performed the service.
I've had AHS for all my four houses and I keep renewing the contract for 20 years. I have been very happy with who they send and if I'm not, I tell them and they send somebody else. In some of the instances, even if it wasnt covered, because I had faith that American Home Shield had selected a premier vendor, I had them fix it anyway and I paid for it out of pocket. I like that AHS gives you both options to set an appointment through the web or by placing a call. For the most part, I find the agents very friendly and accommodating. I am very satisfied.

I sent in a claim for my garbage disposal. In a span of two weeks the grind got stuck up three times. Two of the times it stuck up on Friday. I had my five grandchildren living in the house with me and can't live without a sink with them here so they got one contractor here and he was very, very sweet. But the next time, there was just no way they'd have anybody here before Monday, so I got on the phone and called somebody and just paid for a visit that time. But the next time they had someone here and I was very pleased. It happened on a Thursday. I don't expect unreasonable service. They can only do what they can do. They can't make plumbers work on Saturday or Sunday, and I understand that, so I was not irritated at all at having to pay other than the fact that I hated to pay but that was it.
The representatives from American Home Shield are always very helpful and friendly. They were all very, very nice and I felt like the problem was I had a 17-year-old putting things in the garbage disposal. Overall, they are dependable, communicate well and know what's going on. They're all that I expect a home warranty program to be and I have recommended them to neighbors.

Do not waste your time or your money with these people. If you call them for service or to cancel, expect to wait at least 20 min to speak to someone. You'll also get hung up on a lot because they claim to have "phone issues". If you are calling to buy something, you'll get someone right away. The contractors they send take a week to get to you (and usually drive unmarked work vans--that's comforting), then they either "order a part" (I have been waiting for a "part" for my refrigerator for more than a month) or try to sell you something that isn't covered. Read the fine print too. They don't cover much. They'll also tell you something is covered when you sign up and tell you it's not when you file a claim. BEWARE!!

Stay away! American Home Shield has some of the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. The only company worse than them is their A/C repair company they contract with in Topeka, KS. In May 2015, my A/C broke and a tech was dispatched to my home. I was told my A/C was leaking and it was the result of a coil (not an A/C expert). Coil was fixed but the company was dispatched again when the a/c starting leaking again causing damage to my drywall. The contractor told me that the leak was the result of a crooked pan. Finally, in August of 2015, the contractor contacted my property management company (I'm in the military and had PCSD at that point) who told me to finally fix the A/C (fix had been temporary until now, go figure no one told us), the A/C would have to be lifted/moved because it was installed incorrectly when the house was built.
The beginning of Sep 2015, I contacted the contractor, HD Service Co. and asked them if I need to do anything as the homeowner to get this repair complete or if they were handling it direct with AHS like they had since May and if it was covered. I also asked if I could get a summary of repairs and to write out that the cause of this repair is an improper install (I was hoping I could take this to my homeowner's insurance company and have them cover the drywall damage).
After no responses and a couple runarounds, I finally call AHS in the beginning of October telling them I cant get a straight answer from their contractor and that I also needed a summary of repairs. They informed me they would submit my complaint to their contract specialist (people who deal with their contractors) and that I would get a response in a week. The rep also told me they can't directly email me a summary of repairs and that it had to be submitted to another department so they can email it to me.
After ONE AND A HALF MONTHS and one phone call/email a week from me, I still had no response! At this point, my family and I had changed duty stations again but this time to Japan. I finally call them to cancel my contract (about a 15-minute call at 87 cents a minute) and it was at this point they told me the repair was not covered and that they could have sent me a summary of repairs at any point. I cancelled my service. The sad part is that even if they had simply called or just emailed saying, "we are still looking into this" or had just told me that the repair was not covered back in October, I would have stayed with them. Any company that doesn't have the decency to at least respond to inquiries doesn't deserve my money. Oh, they didn't care about continuing to collect my money for October and November.
Hi Daniel, I am sorry to hear about your recent experience. I appreciate the time you have taken to bring this to the companies attention. We will use this experience to better our products and services. Thanks! ^CW

He said that our range needed to be replaced and turned this info into AHS. We received an email the second day asking for more information which I provided.
Our range was in two separate pieces - one on the right side of a counter and one of the left side. The AHS person found a range that looked like it would work. In a few days, we had the range sets delivered, however because the place for the ranges had to be enlarged, he could not install it. We have a grandson who is a former electrician and he enlarged the spaces and installed the ranges. We are very pleased with the new ranges and with the AHS service. In August of last year our washer broke. It took AHS 2 months to finally agree to replace it. In that two months there were about a dozen service visits to try and fix it, even though the repairman who kept coming for the repair continuously said he recommended that they replace it. They made me wait 2 months for a working washing machine. 2 months of dragging all of our laundry to the laundromat and paying about $25 a week to use the laundromat! All while I paid them my monthly fee!
I placed numerous calls to them to complain during these two months, especially the second month. Because of those complaint calls they kept giving me a free service call on my account for a future repair. I had racked up three or four of these free service charges. That was in October of 2014. Just recently (Nov 2015) I had to call for service on my stove and I informed them that my service charge would be free. "No" they said, because those expire in one year!
Wow what dirty little trick! Those are what shut me up a year ago while they took 2 months to replace my washer! 2 months of ordering parts and waiting for parts to come in, two months of that's a repairman coming over and over and over again! At that time they refused to reimburse me for what I was continuously putting out at the laundromat and also their monthly fee that was being automatically charged to my credit card. Wow! So I get nothing! All that aggravation last year and I get absolutely nothing! Wow! They could have taken as long as they wanted to repair or replace my washer and just kept giving me these meaningless free service calls! After all, how many could one possibly use in a year??!! I didn't even use one! Amazing! What a big disappointment... AGAIN!!

And so when he called, I was out but I was on my way back and we just so happened to meet at the same time but he came right in and started kicking it. He said he was real familiar with this Trane unit. But he's real sharp guy and he was on his way, he wants to get it fixed.
I told him that I've got on for several times that it wasn't kicking on. When I set the thermostat it went gliding and what he found was that it probably had an electrical of some kind and he was real knowledgeable. He was telling me that by pulling the filter door open, a lot of times it will reset it but he went through a couple of times making it kick on. He showed me what takes place when it's to fire the furnace. Anyway, he didn't have to replace anything; he was just able to reset the unit. He was really professional.

I had a horrible experience with AHS. We had family in for the holidays. Our water backed up downstairs in the bathroom. I called Tuesday afternoon. Somebody came out Wednesday afternoon when it’s 6 o’clock in the evening. They didn’t do anything but complain and they sent in a statement to American Home Shield. American Home Shield declined to have them do any work because of what the contractor said. And then after that, I called back for them to get me maybe an outside source to come and they only had one contractor for this area and that was the one that came out Wednesday. They refused to come back out and I told them I really didn’t want them to come back out. I had to go another day or two before they finally said, “Okay, we’re going to authorize you to go to an outside source.” The outside source came yesterday and they repaired it.
I really don’t want to talk about it because every time I talk about it my blood pressure go up. And we had guests from out of town for Thanksgiving holidays and with my brother downstairs pumping water out the tub as fast as we take a two-minute shower. It was just a horrible holiday and weekend. I was really dissatisfied with the service. I hope I never have to go through this again. It made no sense that a company the size of American Home Shield don’t have but one contractor for the area that I live in.

Our home here in Kingwood area and some rentals that I own are under American Home Shield. I recently submitted claim for my stove. And they’ve been just really timely and when we call with concerns, they try to address those for me. So they're good. I like all their contractors except Sears and a couple that we put on our list that we ask them not to have come out again, but the Sears here in the Kingwood area is fine, but when you go out in the Bryan area Sears want to charge you taxes and everything else in addition to the $75. So we don’t want Sears out there anymore.
I would recommend to some of my friends, which I have already done. My friends are saying that they didn’t think that it was worth it, but I do think otherwise because they don’t have anything pressing or needing to be done whereas with my rentals and my home I do need to have the coverage. We want to keep them. I'm satisfied with them.

I'd recommend American Home Shield but there was one instance where I wouldn't recommend it even to a dog. I submitted a claim and I couldn’t get any of their contractors out here for a week because of the heat of the summer. I had heat pump problems and it quit altogether completely. I had to find an outside vendor. And the thing about the vendor that I found was, they installed it and it leaked in the inside and they came here two or three times because it would blow out a circuit. So after 40 years in electronics, I had to tell them I had to fix it so it wouldn’t do that. And after that it’s been working great ever since. AHS wouldn’t pay but $2500 and the bill was $6500 so I had to eat $4000. But I’ve had really good experiences with AHS although that one was horrible. Luckily, I had the money in the bank to cover it. If I hadn’t had the money, it would’ve been a nightmare.

Each phone call to them has been handled professionally by their call center representatives, giving us a false sense of security when in fact there is absolutely NO follow-up on anything. Every time I call, I'm told that it's being worked on and to wait 48 hours for this or that. It has been incredibly frustrating. Their contractor was also very challenging to get to come back to do the work. He took the trade fee and seemed like he would have never come back if we hadn't called over and over. Just the leaky faucets took over a month to replace and we've waited now an additional 4 weeks for the washer drain after which AHS says they can't find a contractor to finish the job. Lovely.

As a first-time homebuyer purchasing an older house, a home warranty with AHS put me at ease that I'd be better equipped to handle repairs within the first year. On the contrary, it added an enormous amount of stress to my first few months in the house until finally, out of exasperation, I cancelled the contract. I would not recommend a home warranty with American Home Shield to any homebuyer. A month after moving in, the fridge that conveyed with the home was no longer maintaining a stable temperature. No problem -- I liked the ease of using AHS' online interface and quickly requested service. Unfortunately, that's where my positive experience ended.
First call to schedule service said no one could come out for TWO weeks. That essentially meant two weeks of no fridge -- it was too warm to keep food in. I called back and was able to find another contractor, #1, who came out the very next day, spent <5 minutes in the house, and determined a very major repair or possible replacement was necessary. I paid the $75 service fee. It then took several more days and calls from me to AHS to find out next steps. Contractor #1 did not want to do the repairs, so contractor #2 was called to follow up. Contractor #2, who has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau, called to say I would have to wait another week and a half before they could get out. The devastating floods in SC had recently happened and were keeping all local contractors busy, so I OK'd another long week without a fridge.
Contractor #2 eventually shows up, spends another <5 min examining the fridge, and comes to the exact opposite conclusion of contractor #1, suggesting that all the fridge needs is cleaned coils. In addition to showing up with absolutely zero prior knowledge that contractor #1 had already been there (or perhaps because of this), contractor #2 demands a SECOND $75 service fee from me. I knew this was incorrect, as I'd already paid the $75 service fee for the same repair request, but I assumed AHS would refund me and right the error.
At this point, I'd been close to a month without a working fridge. The stress of living in a new home without a refrigerator, of scheduling and taking off work for service calls, and of the impression that I was fighting AHS for a more reasonable response at every turn was no longer worth the money saved. I could not wait any longer for their agonizingly slow repair process, and in fact even wondered if they ever intended to repair the fridge at all. I bit the bullet and cancelled my entire warranty with them, and requested my second $75 service fee be refunded. I was issued the pro-rated warranty refund promptly (and I'll note that over the course of this process, I spoke with several excellent reps by phone, who are the reason for two stars instead of one), but a month and four calls later, I have still yet to be refunded my $75.
In summary, the inconveniences I encountered at every single step of the AHS home warranty process might have seemed unfortunate coincidences if taken separately. But taken all together, it seems impossible that I had unrepresentative bad luck with AHS. I can only assume it's part of their business model to make repairs so exasperating that a homeowner gives up the idea of getting their help with needed repairs. As a postscript: I put my AHS refund toward a fantastic new fridge and have finally been able to settle in and feel at home in my new house. Sometimes the hassle is just not worth the money saved.

It was not an emergency because I was able to turn on the heater again, but they responded very efficiently and they changed it. I was really happy with the submission of the claim because it was very easy. They respond very easily and three hours later I received a call from the organization and then few hours later a call from the company that was going to check up my heater, and we agreed about the time and the visits. It was really good.
The contractor did a good job. One can tell that he knew what he was doing. He looked at the heater and he made a call. He explained to me what happened to the heater, what was that issue and how to prevent it in the following years. I told him that as an outsider myself, keeping up with a house is so different in other countries. It has been such a hard time for me to learn the hard way like when stuff stop working. He was very nice, very kind and answered all my questions. I've had no problems since the repair. The only thing that I had was that last week, I received a text message that I have to set an appointment for the inspection from the heating but I was not told immediately so that text came late. I just have to call and make an appointment for the review from the heating, but I hope everything is fine.
I used to have this type of insurance before but then I cancelled some years ago because my son was living with me. It's okay when one has somebody around who is a handyman husband or a son. This year, my son left and I was alone so I decided to get this type of service again because one never knows. The need came pretty fast so I was very happy with them. When I was shopping around, I didn't go straight with the company that I used to have because I was looking for the best price and the best deal, and American Home Shield turned out to be the best option. Everybody was always very nice, answered all my questions, and even understood my accent which is a big deal.
I try to recommend AHS to everybody but sometimes this type of service is not something that people are eager to have. Almost everybody has these contracts when you buy a house, the seller wants to buy it but a lot of people doesn't feel that they need to have it by themselves. If you have a handy husband or a kid, no problem. But I am alone and an old lady so I need somebody who has my back especially with this type of issues. I'm very happy to have this service and I would recommend it to everybody, but not everybody feels like they would spend that kind of money.

My most recent claim was for my furnace. I think it had to do with the temperature not being regulated correctly. When the maintenance man came out, he was very thorough but a part had to be replaced and he had to leave to get it, then came right back. I think that would be my only thing is maybe they should have service vehicles so they can run out to the truck and get a part instead of having to go back to the office. That would be my only "complaint" and it's really not a complaint because he was very honest with me, "I have to go get the part."
When he replaced it, I've had a little issue with it. I haven't had to call him back out and it seems to be doing what it's supposed to be doing. Matter of fact, the temperature from the thermostat reading is generally more what I expected. It's been perfect. In this particular case it wasn't below freezing so they couldn't up me to an emergency status even though it was cold enough, it was like 35 that night. But they explained the policy to me, so as long as they explain stuff like that to me, I'm good. For two years I had different mechanics out here and nobody ever caught it until this guy. Nobody called us back until that Tuesday, and they said they had put the work order in and, of course, we didn't hear from anybody. We called the GE, and they didn't have a contract number so they didn't know anything about it. We called American Home Shield again and they said okay, they'd put it all through again. On Monday, they were supposed to call us back, then Thursday and Friday and nothing.
I got a phone call yesterday saying that the only time that anybody could come out here would be on December 8th. Now, I don't have a machine for three weeks. And I said, "You've got to be kidding me. You can't come out here until December the 8th?" And she said, "That's right." And I said, "Well, that's just not acceptable. Why do I have to wait this long?" She said, "I don't know, ma'am, but December the 8th is the only time I can come out there." And I said, "I'll take it up with American Home Shield."
My husband called American Home Shield again yesterday and said, "That is not acceptable, and if you can't get somebody out here to fix my washing machine, you can just send me my money back because we just paid the deposit." And she said, "Oh, no, no, no. I'll have somebody come out." She called this company and said that they couldn't come out until the 8th. There was no way they could do anything. So Home Shield cancelled it and said they would send us somebody else. As of today, we've heard nothing. And to me, this is unacceptable to have to wait three weeks to have my washing machine fixed. If this is what Home Shield is going to do to me, I don't need them.

When I asked a repair maintenance company what's the best company that they deal with, they referred me to American Home Shield. I’ve had experience with other home warranty companies and they’re horrible compared to the service that I got from American Home Shield. Recently, we had our dishwasher worked on. When we submitted the claim, they answered the phone on the first call and scheduled an appointment. The contractor arrived early and even called me to tell he was on his way. He was very thorough and went through the entire dishwasher to make sure everything was running straight and make sure I understood how to prevent the problem and what to do for future maintenance. We have been doing the tips he gave us and it has made a huge difference. The unit is now at 100%.
American Home Shield for us is security in an unknown environment. We never know what's going to happen, but knowing that they always have our back and everything is always covered, and they answered their phone on the first call, I feel more safe in my own home and my home purchase.

Well, I AHS (American Home Shield) because of the non-biased surveys of home warranty insurance companies. AHS is rated online as an industry pioneer, the dominant market competitor, and customer ratings of service, price, and quality of vetted contractors. I felt like I was the only customer they had because everybody was extremely efficient and effective, throughout the process. This includes the online AI for submitting the claim, the personal follow up by the contractor, the communication and customer education of the technicians, as well as the fact that the tradesman or technicians were skilled masters or journeymen of their trades. The plaster patch in one of my two claims this year was a true artist and more than willing to give me surfacing and painting tips. If I were J.D. Power I would give them an overall rating of best in the industry and 5 stars out of 5, but unfortunately I am not J.D. Power.

We have been impressed overall with our warranty. Having to wait for original parts to be shipped and then installed has sometimes been a hassle but knowing that original parts are the replacement is reassuring. The first year we have used this warranty was well worth the price as we used it for several plumbing problems, replacement of the central air conditioning system and appliance repairs. We do wish there more contractors closer to us. Each technician has had acceptable hygiene, appropriate behavior and did the work as quickly as possible and left the site clean.

I had some repair difficulties. The lights in the closet hardly ever came on and the exhaust fan in the second bathroom quit working so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. I had no back talks. They took the information and started the ball rolling. Then the man that came out to fix the problem was very polite and friendly. He knew the items that he needed, went down to Home Depot and picked them up. I don't think there was another one that would do something like that. They'd normally come back three weeks later or two weeks with the part. However, I'm not referring to American Home Shield but that's what I've experienced. He did a good job, took care of the business that same day and left.
Since the repair both appliances are working. The fan motor, which is small, that he replaced now works every time we turn it on. And the lights in the closet where he had replaced the ballast now works fine. Every time we go to the closet, the light comes on. I put in a claim and apparently, appliances are all covered under one visit. AHS sent out Dan who was wonderful. He brought in the parts for the dishwasher and fixed the freezer. We had to wait a week on a part for the dryer, but they did come back and fixed it. It's well worth it having the peace of mind that if things break, I don't have to worry about who I call and who's trustworthy. All I have to do is type it in on the website, they take care of it, they call when they said they're going to call, they show up and do what they say they're going to do.
We didn't have the upgraded American Home Shield package and had to go through someone else to get the ice maker fixed and we paid $300. It worked for about two days, and then it didn't work. We've been without ice through the door for a year and we had it fixed twice outside of American Home Shield and it still never worked. American Home Shield has been good. I'm having an issue with the air-conditioner which I think is leaking Freon. Steve, who came out two weeks before, was awesome. He checked it , explained and took time to show us everything. He put in Freon. A couple of weeks later, it leaked again. I called AHS again and explained to them what was going on. And I said, “I really want the same guy back out here instead of starting with another company again,” and they said, “No problem.” They were very nice. They sent out the same company. Unfortunately, it was a different guy. I talked to the people from Iceman and asked specifically for Steve but that didn’t happen.
They sent somebody else out who was reluctant to give me information. And the ball got dropped there. There seems to be a lack of communication. There have been four different companies out putting Freon in my air-conditioner. And I'm saying, "Listen guys. This is at $75 every call plus American Home Shield only pays $10 of the cost for Freon and Freon is at $75 a pound. So every time you come out, it's a couple hundred bucks," and I get half-answers from a lot of them.
It's not Home Shield. Every time I've called, they've been great about getting back to me. They took care of their part of the game. When we first moved in, I called about a problem with the furnace that took three different companies to get it fixed. We had a thousand-dollar copper faucet that was leaking hot water into the cold water lines so we had steaming hot water coming out of the cold water lines around the house. And so I called American Home Shield. They sent a plumber who says we need to replace the faucet. But he couldn’t get the faucet apart because the handle was stuck in place. And without damaging this expensive faucet, he said, “We'll get you a new faucet.”
The unfortunate part was that the replacement faucet from American Home Shield was a cheap plastic faucet whereas ours was this thousand dollar copper brass with a brushed nickel finish. So my wife wasn’t up for the plastic faucet so we ordered a Hansgrohe faucet. And then I called the plumber back and he came and put it in but I think that I'm not really done with American Home Shield yet because I haven't gotten any check from them. But I think they're going to only pay us for the cheapest possible faucet, which was a hundred dollar faucet - the plastic one.
So that wasn’t a really great experience. But the plumber was a nice guy, he was good and seemed confident. And the two previous experiences we've had with the garbage disposal and the furnace fan worked out a lot better. The furnace fan guy came out. He had the fan motor in his truck, put it in, and we're done, and I just had to pay the $75.
Before that was the garbage disposal, which wouldn't work. The plumber for that repair said, “You need a new drain plug because this is magnetic.” It turns out the garbage disposal was so old. It was not a magnetic drain plug. It had a switch underneath the lip and I can't get parts for it anymore, and so the garbage disposal wouldn’t work. So we ordered a new KitchenAid disposal. And again, they wanted to supply their InSinkErator, which sounds like a monster under the sink when it runs, and the KitchenAid is very quiet. I know that because my daughter has an InSinkErator at her house and it sounds awful.
In our case, the way this house is laid out, the kitchen is in the center of everything, and it's a house built for entertainment sort of. And so they let me order my own garbage disposal, but in that case, it came out with the same price with the one that they would have selected so all I had to pay was just $75. So I've had two good experiences with AHS and the kitchen faucet was the only bad experience that I had with them. Maybe the next repair I get will be better.

It's been a blessing being with American Home Shield. Paying that one charge of $75 for the trip has saved us a lot of money. A recent claim was for our refrigerator. We have the in-the-door ice and water dispenser and one day the water wouldn't work, so we called them. The first fellow came out and checked the filters, and the filters were fine. He thought it was a plumbing problem so he left. Then the plumber came. I wasn't home at that point but I heard all about it. There was some black mineral build-up at the faucet and the water worked when that got cleaned out. Today's call is for our ice maker which quit, so we've had no ice since the water came back on, and that's our most recent claim. But we had one claim before that when our dishwasher needed a new control panel. That got done and everything's fine with our dishwasher.
The only problem we've had was with a miscommunication. The fellow who repaired our dishwasher didn't communicate well with the American Home Shield office because the office told us that he would be out here on a certain day and we waited until five that day then called the office. He must have been contacted by their office because he called right back and said that he wouldn't be here that day, and hadn't picked up the part yet, so he would call when he had the part. But the part was in and he only had to go get it and come and do the repair.

AHS is a very deceptive company. Whenever I try to call them to report a problem and fill a service request, I am on hold for more than 10 minutes. Often times you are not sure if your issues is covered or not under contract, so you want to talk to someone before you place a service request (costs $75). But they make it so difficult to talk to someone that you are stuck with using an automated line. Most contractors then come and say "this is not covered" and ask for $75. It is a scam to discourage calling in for warranty repair.
In my one case I had an external drain clogged. I wanted to ask them over the phone what is considered external; and I never got to a service personnel even after 20 minutes. So I placed an automated request. The contractor called before he came, and I also told him it was an external drain issue. He did not say anything about it not being covered. As soon as he came, he called some direct line to AHS and told me it is not covered and asked for $75. Would never take their warranty coverage again, and do not even take it if its free during a real estate transaction. Ask for $100 instead, that is more worthwhile. They also exclude most important issues a new homeowner may come across.

It was my understanding that is what these policies are for. When I complained, they told me there was another policy they would allow me to purchase for a lot more money. Evidently, they do this to people on a regular basis and have a back-up policy. No, thank you American Home Shield. You are expensive enough already. I'm a little disappointed with the time factor involved and I don't know if it's their fault or that of the plumber doing the work. But aside from the time issue, everything else has been good.

It's good peace of mind to not have to worry when something breaks. American Home Shield can fix it and try to figure that all out.

My washing machine was making noise and the contractor they sent ordered stuff so I had to wait. When it came, they came back, took the washing machine apart, put it back together and it was horrible. He ran the washer but he didn't run it long enough to hear the grinding noise. I tried to call them back and they never answered. They made it worse than before, so I ended up buying a new one. But AHS has been good. They had fixed my air conditioner before and the guy did a dynamite job. It was my thermostat that wasn’t working. It's much cooler now so I didn't have to turn it up as high as I used to before. The people at AHS are very friendly, nice, easy and quick to respond.

One of the control items in the electrical box was running hot. I called American Home Shield and they couldn't find someone to come out right away because it was a Muslim holiday. That upset me because it could've turned into an electrical fire. It already burned that plug out and was smelling. Eventually, they found someone who would come out the next day to fix the problem. I had to take a chance on something catching a fire until the next day. The person came and found out that it was electrical, the fuse completely burnt out. He did okay, the lights and everything all worked perfectly. I checked it after he left and check it every so often and it still runs hot. But as far as the service was concerned, they did replace the item.

Recently, I filed a plumbing claim. Their contractor came on time. When he finished working on it, I called his office to pay the copay and he left. It turned out that they never got a pre-approval for the job. American Home Shield called me after the contractor left and gave me an estimate of what I'm supposed to pay. They should've done it before the work was finished. Then the contractor's office called and threatened to sue me if I don't pay them. I called American Home Shield and told them about the threat, they told me that the contractor shouldn't have done that and they're suppose to give an estimate before working on the job. They assured me that they will call the contractor and will update me on the status of this problem but I never received any call back until now.
They performed the work professionally, only to find out that some parts were not covered. Three weeks have passed and I never heard anything from them. I called the plumber's office and they told me that they understood who's fault it was. Ive been working with American Home Shield for so many years and I never had this problem. I hope this will be resolved and I'm still waiting for their call.

I was pleased with the work they did and the professionalism of the technician. Everything works real good, I have no complaints. I feel that the contractors that performed my air conditioning service were competent and informative. They explained the issue and reasoning that my unit was not working properly. It turned out that my compressor had gone out. I was able to get a new compressor through AHS which was great but I had no idea that they only covered a very small percentage of the coolant that had to fill the new compressor. What I initially thought would be just my deductible, ended up costing me over $700.00 by the time it was all over. I do wish that AHS had made that fact more clear from the beginning.

We recently bought a home where the seller provided, via their broker, an American Home Shield (AHS) home protection plan. Now, 4.5 months later our hot water heater has a leak and flooding our basement. AHS send a plumber within 24 hours and he determined that the water heater needs to be replaced. He collected $75 and left. Next thing, AHS send us an email that they will seek 2nd opinion since they think it may be due to lack of maintenance. However, out contract clearly states that lack of maintenance (and it did not fail due to lack of maintenance) is cover and is not an exclusion. Not the 2nd opinion plumber is not available for another 2.5 days.
Bottom line: We will be out of hot water heater and hot water (two adults and three kids) for at least 4.5 days and likely longer. Also our basement is still getting flooded from the 80 gallons still in the tank even though I have turned off fresh water supply. Terrible service. I guess AHS is denying us service by prolonging and hoping that we would give up and get a replacement water heater at our own expense.

We received a contract with American Home Shield as part of our home purchase. After running into issues with our septic, we figured out it was caused by a leaking toilet. This was very easy to do with a dye test. Figured I would give them a call and get the issue repaired. Tech never called me. I had to call them over 2 days to get the initial appointment, which was for the next week. They arrived on time, came in, ran the toilets and immediately said there was no problem. I tried to explain the problem to them, but he would not listen. He then starts saying "well that wont be covered under the warranty." I tell him I am calling AHS to see about it.
Woman on the phone with AHS says it is covered, and notes that the tech (who was on the phone with them as well) was making notes that he would fix the problem. When he finally comes back to the door he randomly says "Well I guess you are wanting another contractor?" I said "no I would like to get the issue fixed." He yells "there is no issue."
I'm a contractor myself. I'm not a dummy. I know exactly what the problem is and exactly how to fix it. Just thought I would try the service out to save some time and money. Turns out that was a mistake. Now trying to get a supervisor on the phone for the last hour to see if I really have to pay 75$ for someone to come to my home, be rude, and refuse to fix the problem.
Hi Cory, I am sorry to hear about this experience. I appreciate the time you have taken to bring this to our attention. Our records indicate that we were able to send a 2nd opinion out who was authorized to do the repairs. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Thanks! ^CW

My recent claim with American Home Shield was for plumbing, but I had a pain-in-the-butt time because my computer doesn't like to work all the time so I had to call them. The call was in a nonstop "press 1" for this and "press 7" for this, and I just wanted someone to come fix my toilet. And when the one time that I got through someone, the rep was very polite. However, I'm not on their paperwork so they wouldn't let me do anything. Jean had to do it on her computer at work.
They sent the contractor to fix it. It was the same guy both times and he was awesome. He told me what he could and couldn't do and what needed to be done. Because we have an older house, the pipes were probably paperwork or cardboard left so he said it may just be an obstruction and all we did was poke a hole in it and it'll probably fill back up and cause a problem again. But, he was able to fix the plumbing. He was polite and funny and we sat here chatting when he was done. We liked their service, and have already recommended them to my stepson.

The ice maker in my freezer was broken. It was leaking and there was ice everywhere so I called American Home Shield. The only problem I had was that it took so long for them to send somebody here. Originally when I called they said, "You're going to hear from him within 24 hours". However, within 24 hours, I didn't hear anything. So I called the number of the contractor. They didn't even answer the phone and the recording said, "No one is here to take your call". That's not encouraging at all.
So I called American Home Shield and told them what happened. They called the number and they got the same thing. She said, "If they don't answer us within 24 hours, we're going to take a different action". So 24 hours went by, it's two days now, and then they said, "Who would you like us to call?" I said, "Well, how about Sears? You've always sent Sears before and they've done a good job". And she said, "Well, Sears is packed up and they won't be able to be there for like a week or so". I said, "Then that's not good". I said, "This is a GE product. Do you have anybody with GE?" And they said "Yes". So they got a guy from GE. It took a day for this whole thing to congeal and they sent him.
When this guy walked in the door, he took one look at this thing, knew exactly what the problem was, and had it fixed in less than an hour with no problem at all. He was polite, friendly and I was very happy with him. Eventually, they got their act together, got the right person here, and he did a wonderful job. I told them, "You know, what if this was my heating system and it was the dead of winter, how long will I have to wait for you to send somebody?" And I got sympathy from them but that was about it. It wasn't the end of the world. It's just an ice maker and it's working fine now. I'm going to sign up with American Home Shield again and give them another shot because in the long run, it's cheaper to get AHS to send somebody than it is to call the repair service and have them come here. They're going to charge a lot more money.

Our latest claim with American Home Shield was for the air conditioning unit. The compressor went out and the guys came and checked it. They charged less than $100 for the visit and explained to me that the compressor was going to be replaced. The compressor and labor cost me almost $315 for the 8 pounds of Freon they put in it and the $100, so the whole thing cost me $415. When I checked, it would be equivalent about $1,400 to call someone to come and do it so I had a really good experience. The man who did it was very professional, on time and worked the entire time and checking the temp in the house. It's cooling to the proper degrees and it works really well, so I couldn't be more pleased.

I had a leak. I did not know exactly if it was coming from the toilet or from a pipe in the basement. So I had called a guy from American Home Shield who did my earlier claim, which was another leak under the kitchen sink, and asked him to come back. And he said "Well you'll need to call this in because its in a different area." So that's what I did. He initially made contact with me and he said "I'll try to get there by this week." I called on a Thursday and then he said "I'll try to be there by Monday." He didn't call me back on Monday so I kept calling the office number and I spoke to a little girl. I don't know if it's his daughter or secretary or whatever. But she said "Well he's gonna be really busy this week. He's not gonna be able to come, so I'll get up and then find out when he can come." And I said "Okay fine."
And then I waited until Thursday of that week and I called back to his office number and I said "When do you think hell be able to come?" She said "Well he's really, really backed up so probably it's not gonna be until sometime next week." So I said "Can you tell me what day it might be? Cause I do have something going on on Tuesdays and Thursdays." She said "I really don't know. I have to ask him when he'll be back." He eventually did, after me calling again another time on Monday or Tuesday this week, calling the office again and really putting her on the spot. I said "Look, let me know what's up with this. If he's not able to do it, just let me know. I can understand that." And she said "I'll definitely let you know what day he can come but it will be 5:00 this afternoon at least." So he did call me in the afternoon about 4:00 and let me know he wasn't coming.
My issue with all this has been that I don't mind if people have pressing work. I understand that. They're not always able to get to the job. But if they had just called me every couple of days to say they would be unable to come, then that's fine with me. As long as I'm not having a flood in the basement, I can handle it with a bucket. That's okay with me. I dont mind that. Just communicate with me and let me know. And then if I can't deal with their plans, then that gives me an opportunity to call American Home Shield back and try to get somebody else.
I've never had this happen before with anybody that's worked on my house from American Home Shield. I think I've only had like four or five claims in ten years, and every one of them has been an excellent outcome. They've called me right away. Like for a heating problem, they needed to come and they were there in 24 hours. They worked it out. We had the problem solved in two or three days. And that's fine with me. It's always been a good experience.
And this gentleman that I filed a claim to is an earnest gentleman. He does his work. I think he's just kind of over-booked. And he did a lot of extra work for me. I spent a great deal of money because there were other things that he felt needed to be addressed and I agreed with him. I thought they needed to be addressed. He did do that work and so far it's been satisfactory. But I feel like if they're going to go that extra mile and do extra work for somebody and charge them the going rate for that, then when the customer has another different problem in the future, they should be even more responsive to that customer because that customer has paid them that money.
I'm not able to use the toilet till 5:00 tonight because he wanted to let the seal that he put around it and the caulking settle and harden up. The major problem that caused the leak was the toilet was not level and it was rocking back and forth. He said something was broken and because of that, the toilet was moving. As far as I know its probably gonna be okay. I really wouldn't know until tomorrow whether it was perfect or not. I really wouldn't know because I'm not gonna use it until that's been fixed.
I would say that overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been worth recommending. I've never experienced this problem before. This is like a one-shot deal. So I would definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend and I do recommend it to my friends. I think if you're buying a new house, you're crazy if you don't get it. I pay a considerable amount of money for American Home Shield but it's always there when I need it. And as a single person who's not very handy, it's well worth the money.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was when they changed out my gas furnace. You call them and they set up the company that's gonna come out and service you. And then that company follows back up and makes the appointment. That's how it worked for me. I've had interactions with the contractor multiple times. Every time they've called me back within 30 minutes to set up the contract. And every time they sent anybody out, they've just been outstanding. They make sure they don't make a mess in your place. They get right to it. Then they explain everything that needs to be done. They explain to you what's covered, what might be an exception to being covered, if there's an exception.
They have a rep from AHS call you back and explain the deal to make sure you understand it before you do any more. They are always on schedule and have always been great. I stand behind them. We're selling our home but when we buy our next home, we'll have them again. We've had three or four homes with AHS. We don't even consider anybody else because the service has been so good with them.
