During the hot Florida summer our air conditioner stopped cooling. One call to American Home Shield was all it took to get someone out to check the system. Cotie was courteous and thorough. Unfortunately, the system needed a part that had to be ordered and it was a Friday afternoon so they put a rush on the order and he returned Monday morning to install it. Having the peace of mind of a quick response for anything that breaks or needs repairs is worth the cost of the policy which is reasonable and affordable. Thank you AHS for being the best in customer service!

Stay as far away from this company as possible. I thought that they were good originally, but that was because I didn't know about other companies out there. I absolutely hated losing an entire day of work because their techs they only work Monday through Friday 9-5. You have absolutely no flexibility in what company they give you to... and I swear everyone that sent was incompetent and NEVER fixed a single problem. I had to have additional techs come out on my own dime.

When I cancelled my plan I had one last service done and was told by the retention and the tech that I had 60 days to get the item looked at again. Here it is 45 days later and I call to have them come back out, because immediately it wasn't fixed. I just didn't have time to get them out due to holidays and birthdays. So I call and they tell me they can't help me because my contract has ended... whatever happened to honoring your work. Stay away from them. I got a cheaper home warranty saving $200 a year, and $30 less deductible. Bump you AHS. You suck!!! If I could give you no stars I would!

My contractor called immediately and let me know what was going on. He had two calls that were large and ahead of mine but because the weather was threatening lower temperature, he would get to me even if it was after 5:00 pm. He showed up apologizing as he got to work, found the problem and got it fixed and out as soon as possible. He has worked on my heating/cooling before and was familiar. He cleaned up and explained what he had done.

Warning: Stay away!!!! I canceled my renewal in January 2016, but I still got charged. They sent me a letter where it's said that the actual contract was terminated on 01/05/2016. I called the company and the lady said that the actual contract will expire only in February. I told her then "Why did you terminate my contract on the fifth of January?" I have their letter in front of me. They just want it to charge me once more. I will have to take them to BBB and with a good lawyer maybe I'll get my money back. Stay away from this company. No business with them.

I first contacted AHS around Dec 22. They sent out a local repair person for electrical issues. That was about a week later, so it wasn't too bad. He looked at our stove and said it could not be repaired and he was going to submit for it to be replaced. He began working on our wiring issue, then all of a sudden had to leave. 3 weeks later I called AHS for a status since I had not seen or heard from him. They had not received any information regarding our stove.

The service man came out finally and completed work on the wiring, then submitted the information on the stove. The next day I was contacted about the replacement, then last week it was set up for Sears to deliver it today. I was to call Sears last night after 6:30 to get a 2 hour window. I called and they did not have that window. I called today and was told they're not even delivering it. I called our local Sears delivery and they said it's there, but they don't have an order to deliver it.

So, overall, my issue isn't necessarily with AHS. It's with the serviceman that they contracted with and the appliance center they contracted with. Once AHS had the information, everything was processed quickly. My chief complaint with AHS is that I called them for one electrical issue that suddenly turned into 2 issues that I wasn't aware of and I logged into my account to see that my warranty would be terminated if I didn't pay a second $75 service fee. The electrical issue, I could have fixed for about $5. I was not aware that I was paying an additional $75 for it. I'm very thankful my stove is being replaced, but not very happy that it's taken almost 6 weeks of not having a stove/oven to do so.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield since 1977 and up until about a month ago, I had two properties with them. It’s been a long time and most of the time we've been satisfied. There was one experience we had about seven years ago that was absolutely horrific and unfortunately, we had no resolution but we just let it go.

My latest claim with them was when we had a blockage in our kitchen sink. I called in, described the situation, and asked for Mario from American Plumbing because I've had experience with him several times before, which they gave me. He is a wonderful contractor and has always done excellent work for me. He takes the time to explain what's happening and is able to troubleshoot and fix the problem quickly. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The contractor sent was professional and knew what he was doing. He did a good job but the repair is still incomplete. He needed to get a pulley and it took a week to get it. He put it in yesterday and then found out there was another part needed. So overall, the system works but it's piecemeal. It's tedious but I understand it’s the way all system is and we’re willing to work with it.

Purchased an older home in November and bought the American Home Shield warranty plan. Had the furnace inspected right away and it was found to be in excellent condition but after about 3 months it quit working. Naturally it was 7 degrees outside with a wind chill way below zero. We requested service through the AHS website and was given an assigned contractor appointment. The contractor was then supposed to contact us directly for an appointment time per the website. The next morning when we had not heard from them, we called and they said they had no work order from AHS and even if they did they were too busy to get to us for days and days.

We are elderly people and my husband is a disabled veteran. To wait for days in the cold was not acceptable so we called a local servicer and they fixed it the same day. To date, weeks after, we have never heard from any servicer through AHS... no call, no appointment, no nothing. And when we contacted them to reimburse us for the work and point out that the assigned contractor was unavailable to do the work, they told us it was all our fault and they would not reimburse anything at all. In my opinion their "warranty" is a total fraud.

Contracted technician showed up on 1/4/2015 to look at my Maytag washer that I reported as becoming very noisy and coming up with what appeared to be unbalance codes and stopping all too often. Contractor made some adjustments and was trying to say that it would be ok but I then reminded him about the noise. He inspected the unit again and determined that the stator unit needed replacement and he would have to order the replacement. I then asked him about the bearing possibly needing replacement based on the noise and the more than evident dust/grime left on the floor. He insisted they were ok. So he then gave me a return ETA of 1/21.

He showed on this latter date and within minutes I heard him call to consult with another tech who informed him that he should order the bearings. Needless to say I was not happy to hear this. I then asked him to provide me an ETA on acquiring this additional part as soon as he found out. I never heard back from him. I emailed the local contractors office, United Services of Arizona, at the email address noted on his invoice (myrepair@live.com). This was sent on 1/26 and once again I’ve yet to hear from them. I then called the AHS number and spoke with ** and informed her of all the above. She assured me that she/they would get in contact with this contractor and follow up with me and provide an update. Well I regretfully report that I’ve yet to hear anything at all from anyone concerned.

I have been paying for this warranty service for years and this is the first time I call for their services and I am very disappointed. By the way I responded to the initial services survey that was emailed to me, but not until after the return visit, with all the above info and that obviously fell on deaf ears. So as you can see I’ve made more than enough attempts on getting someone at this company to respond but they have failed drastically. We have been without a properly operating washer for almost a month now and completely inoperable going on 2 weeks after the return visit on the 21st of this month as he left it in this state. Very disappointed to say the least and I will consider terminating this contract.

We have had a warranty with American Home Shield for the past three years. Our experience is that the quality of their service providers is very low. For instance, the company that they currently have assigned to us for a plumbing problem is rated F by the Better Business Bureau (BBB.org) and has similar reviews on Yelp. Our personal experience with the service provider they assigned us is awful. It took over a week for the company to come to service our plumbing issue. They came, took a picture of the part they needed to replace and then called back the following week to make an appointment another week out. On the day of the appointment they called after the scheduled start time to tell us that the repairman had called and they needed to reschedule for the following day.

On the following day the repairman himself called to say that he did not have the correct part and would have to reorder and won't be here for another 5 days. He also indicated that he had not called in the day before. So we were lied to. I called American Home Shield about the issue but their response was that there was nothing they could do since the part was on order. With as many negative reviews as this company has I believe there is something American Home Shield could do... They could not contract with this company in the future.

In December we decided to purchase a warranty for our rental home as we work out of the country and have our house on the market. We thought this would give us peace of mind and enhance the sale. Last week our tenants called and stated that the hot water heater wasn't working. As they have a special needs child we knew it had to be dealt with immediately. We called Home Shield and they sent a service technician out the next day (Friday). On Monday morning we called to find out the status and were told that the parts had been ordered and the technician would get back to us within 24 hours.

That evening the technicians phone had been disconnected so we called Home Shield back. Seems he no longer worked with them but they failed to inform us. So they sent out another technician on Wed. night at 8 pm. He spent approx. 3 mins there (in the rain) only to inform us that he didn't know when it happened and couldn't fix it without knowing exactly when it broke. Now Home Shield wants to send out a third technician, one who also doesn't do gas hot water heaters. They are also saying that the second tech indicated there was a lot of rust. The technician never told us this and neither did the first tech, and this is a whole new story. What is wrong with this company? For the third day in a row my husband is spending the entire day on the phone with these guys. It seems like they will do anything to get out of a contract.

First of all, we think AHS is better than Fidelity. So last year We purchase AHS again based on our experience but it turns out bad this time. We have a problem on garage opener. So we request a service call online. And then one contractor response so quickly in that morning. Later, one man came and starts to say we should not deal with this issue (garage opener) with warranty because AHS won't cover that. Also, he has same issue last year when he purchased their home. I told him that I think AHS is a good company. They always solve our problems. I show him our problem for opener. It has the sound from the motor but the door couldn't be opened.

He called the AHS later and told them that we need to replace a new opener but AHS refused to replace it. The reason is we didn't take good care about our garage door??? We didn't use the right size of the motor and the door is too heavy??? What is that about?? We purchased our home 2 years ago. How could we know that the opener is not the right size for the door???? The opener already used for more than ten years... We live here just around 2 years... Everything works fine until last week. Isn't that warranty for to help us deal with this unexpected problems??

I purchased a Home Warranty from American Home Shield for my condo. In the summer I noticed that my furnace was spilling water on the floor while running the AC. I called AHS and they sent out a service technician who said the problem was caused by the evaporator coil icing over due to a "KINK" in the copper tubing between the unit outside unit and the coil. The technician also said the evaporator coil looked like new. That sounded ludicrous to me since the AC operated fine for weeks. Unfortunately, American Home Shield refused my claim.

I called an independent contractor who replace the coil and the unit has run fine since then. No supposed "KINK" in the copper tubing was repaired either. Bottom line, it cost me many months of paying my premium to AHS, a service fee to have their technician come out, and another $1000+ to have the evaporator coil replace. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Check with your utility companies who have similar plans. I purchased one from them and have been very happy with their service.

I contacted AHS in regards to my heat pump making a loud noise. A tech was sent out and stated that I needed a new unit and my unit was 16 years old and that it required a new compressor. I called AHS again after a week from not hearing from them and they stated that due to tech notes the heat pump was not covered under my policy. I asked them to send another tech out for a second opinion. This tech came out and said the unit needed to be replace due to old age and did not agree with the previous tech diagnosis. He did state that it needed a compressor but the unit was old to repair. I called AHS and they stated that they were going to repair the unit even though it's going to cost me 580.00 out of pocket on top of the 75.00 service fee. I put 380.00 into the same heat pump 2 years ago. For the price that I keep paying to repair this old unit I could be getting answer one.

I have had AHS for over 8 years at 700.00 a year and on top of all the money I have paid I could've brought several heat pumps. At some point you would think that they would work with the customer and be willing to replace an older item if you have had several issues and two techs have confirmed the unit needs replacement. I am putting out several hundred dollars in repairs and I have no heat. I think they need to take into consideration all the money people pay through the years when making decisions. Now I am putting a band aid on a problem that eventually isn't going to run. After this issue I am going to cancel my warranty after all these years. I only kept it for the heat pump and now that I know the games they are going to play when it comes time to replace a unit. This warranty is a waste of money and I am very disappointed.

Working with American Home Shield on a recent furnace replacement was an absolute nightmare. In Minnesota, in the winter, having a furnace go out is a pretty extreme situation. Their process was convoluted and inefficient. The contractor immediately recommended it being replaced but they were unable to actually replace it for 3-5 days. Ultimately I decided I just couldn't wait that long and opted for a cash out option. It took 2 days just to get the amount of that option, which only came to 1/5th of the actual cost for the work. I find it very hard to believe that they are able to replace a furnace at 1/5th of the cost with anything of remotely high quality. They are unable/unwilling to move quickly on critical issues and, in my opinion, they do that on purpose to force you into making decisions like I did, to keep my pipes from freezing and destroying my home, and take a much lower payout.

American Home Shield was quick to respond when we submitted the claim for our plumbing. Their representatives were good and AHS took care of the situation right away. I notified the people who contacted me and I was happy with it. The contractors that they sent were prompt, friendly, did their work well, then cleaned up after themselves. I was satisfied with the repairs and everything’s been fine ever since.

We have been with American Home Shield since 2006 and I was so disappointed with the service I got when my water heater broke. We called AHS and they sent a very unprofessional company to do the work. The water heater broke on Thursday and the company wanted us to wait until Tuesday for them to replace the water heater. This company shut off the water in my house and expected me to go 5 days with no water. We called AHS and explained that our son had just had surgery and we needed water to keep his wound clean. After about 10 calls going back and forth with AHS because they would not help us by sending another company to repair the water heater, we called Home Depot and they had a person that same day go to our house and fixed the water heater the following morning. AHS would not even reimburse us for the cost of the water heater.

Unfortunately, the repair company that came stated that it would cost too much to repair the washer and that it was better to replace it. I got it replaced - AHS gave me an option to either have it replaced with whatever unit they have, or give me a certain amount of money to purchase a new unit.

I called to give some feedback to sales rep on the inflexibility of their plans thru buying it for a buyer for a real estate closing. They have a different plan and was so inflexible in getting feedback and arrogant. He kept saying "we are the best" and I as a Realtor was trying to give feedback that it would be nice to be able to order the same plan with flexibility as they see on the regular site. He kept saying "this is the real estate division and not the online division" like they were separate companies. He was not interested in feedback or concerns. I will not be suggesting this warranty to my clients/buyers anymore. Very inflexible and kept quoting that they are the best.

Calling American Home Shield for service was very easy, but we felt that the supervisor at LA Appliance Repair has been trying to nickel-dime us for the situation with our refrigerator. They’re supposed to come out again on Monday. Also, we were told by AHS that if we referred someone, after two months we would get a $25 Amazon e-card as well as the person who we referred. We still haven't gotten it. I have called a lot about it and I always get the same, old run-around, and get passed on a supervisor. A supervisor called me back and said, "If this person doesn't get you an e-mail, call in." I haven't because I've been too busy then I remember later on at night. I'm very disappointed that a company promises something and they don't do it.

Submitting the claim for the washing machine online with American Home Shield is as easy as it can be. Sears came to my home to fix it and this wasn't their best. The first call was during the week around Christmas, so it took four days between the time I've placed the call and the time they came, which is what they told me originally. But then that's longer because normally, it's 24 hours. They needed a part, placed an order for the part but got the wrong part. Luckily the washer wasn't broken and was still usable. However, Sears is a big company and I expected more of them than of the smaller local repair companies so it wasn't great.

One of the best things was AHS sending me the renewal. I asked them for a discount and they offered that, which I didn't realize they had a separate price. I didn't have five of the items that were covered under my contract and they reduced my contract amount because of that. Some of the suppliers are better than others but I'm happy with American Home Shield right now.

We had a repairman come out and look at our microwave. He needed to order a part so we had to wait a few days for it to get in. The one glitch in the repair was the repair man had a hard time removing the microwave from our built in cabinet. He said if he removed it he could not guarantee putting it back in. So he left without it being fixed and it took another 5 days and several phone calls to get another person to come out and finally fix it. Once the second repairman came out he replaced the part in about 15 minutes. Overall we were somewhat satisfied with our experience but we wish it would have been faster.

I have had the AHS insurance for several years now. I have had multiple problems with my Heat/AC unit and have contact AHS for repair. 1st repair needed freon to totally fill the unit, this was 11 lbs. I thought this would fix it as the did not seem to see any additional issues. Roughly 6 months later it happens again, no cool/heat (package unit, heat strip). Now the CSV valve has gone out, complete fill of freon, another 11 lbs. Roughly 6 months after this repair no heat/cooling. Call them. Now they notice the coil has several leaks. The service tech that came to repair noted on the service document that I signed as the coil being non-repairable!

Several days later I received a call that they were going to attempt to fix the un-repairable coil. I spoke with both companies to see where the disconnect was as to why I was told it was un-repairable and now being repaired? Each company continued to point the finger at each other. Nevertheless the coil was repaired and another 11 lbs of freon placed into the unit. Guess what... this last problem was in May and now having issues again... Another 11 lbs of freon? What a joke and this company is only out to make money and not help!

I submitted a statement in somewhat of this manner to the BBB and received a response that had no concern for the customer service but that their company acted and completed all business correctly and nothing negative was completed. They advised that the contract clearly states they will on cover $10/lb of freon. Now I have not now or then said anything about the cost per pound of freon but when you are replacing 11 lbs of freon every 6 months and now debating to call now or cancel this membership. It is costing more money than it may be worth! I feel that they are out for your money and not to protect the consumer. This problem should have been resolved the first go around when 11 lbs of freon just disappeared! Unsatisfied Customer.

I had a leak underneath my shower so I submitted a claim, which was very easy because I could go to the AHS website and choose a series of drop-down menus to get the process started. AHS sent a contractor and he clarified with me what I thought the problem was. In the end, he did not repair it because it required a replacement of a whole shower pan. The problem is not that big so we left it alone. I'm in the process of selling the house, so I left a note for the buyer that it might be something that she would want to look at long term.

It would be a great improvement for AHS if it were easier to get to somebody to ask basic questions or a follow up on a claim because the pathway of getting through a person is not easy to find. I understand that part of the efficiency of the system is that they do a lot of the interface through the web, but they don't promote an easy access customer service helpline and I find it frustrating.

One week ago our furnace made a loud squealing noise, was on, but blew no heat and we weren't able to shut it off. I called AHS and got someone to come out a day later. Two men from Weathervane h/c came out, went downstairs to our furnace, told me they didn't need me down there and proceeded to take off the blower. They told me that it needed to be replaced and it would take about two weeks as the furnace was no longer made and they would have to hunt up parts. The left and about 1 hour later I got a call from AHS stating that they were told by Weathervane that because he had never seen this kind of break, that we must have done it on purpose! While he was telling me this, the Weathervane guys showed up and the guy sent his helper in with the part (coward) and I said to have him come in as AHS was on the phone.

After a few minutes he did and between AHS and the Weathervane guys, they tried to say each other meant that it may not have been me... but for sure somebody! I was in tears! Never have I been so humiliated and had my or our character disparaged like that! I was given the opportunity to have a 2nd opinion and I took it. The 2nd guy came, had me watch him while he took things apart and took photos. He opened the heat exchanger and found THREE cracks! He said that if the first company had tried to replace the blower and we turned it on, we would have DIED from carbon monoxide poisoning! Babies and all! Also said that he could tell that the Weathervane guy didn't even check that part out... WHAT?!! For the last week, AHS has told me several different stories, promised to call us back, but never at any time did! I caught them in three different lies today alone!

Every time I spoke with them, I would call the company they said were going to put in a new furnace... the company never even heard from them! So for a week, in 12-degree weather, several of us, including young kids and a baby are getting sicker by the day, and still NOTHING is happening with regard to the heating! AHS either has no moral compass or they have a staff of ignorant people!

I contacted American Home Shield before Christmas to fix an electrical problem with my house. Lights were turning themselves on and off, indiscriminately at all hours of the day and night. Electric Express LLC came to my house the week before Christmas and stood in my foyer and looked at one switch and said he would have to get authorization to replace the switches. We counted the number of switches and he left in less than 5 minutes. He did not troubleshoot anything or look for control boxes, test the switches to see if they were operating properly, etc. He told me within two to three days I would be contacted. I was never contacted by either company and over two weeks transpired.

I called American Home Shield and the agent told me "the switches were operating correctly". I told him "I have owned this house over 8 years and this was only a recent problem". I explained to him that lights were waking me up at all hours of the night and I'd like a second opinion, as I had the impression from the Electric Express person that he would get authorization to repair and would replace the switches. The American Home Shield agent told me they would request a second opinion from another vendor and would contact me within the next 48 hours. Another week goes by and I contact American Home Shield to see what is going on and they state my customer file is being accessed by another agent and they are unable to do anything.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and none are available. I asked to be contacted by a supervisor and days go by with no supervisor call. Saturday 16 January I get a bill for $100 from American Home Shield with the explanation Service Fee Invoice from Electric Express LLC. I call American Home Shield and try to tell them that I don't see how I can owe a service fee when no service has been provided. I was never informed of the repair status by either company. I again asked to speak with a supervisor and all the supervisors were busy. I asked to hold till one was available and I'm told they can not allow me to do that. This appears to be a scam to me and I don't know what to do at this point.

Neither company appears to represent me and yet I have to pay them both? I can't speak to an American Home Shield supervisor. I contacted the Electric Express today Jan 18th and the person told me the switches were operating properly and that equipment was missing from my system? How would he know that when he never looked at anything? So why do lights go on and off in my house at will? Why did he give me the impression the switches needed to be replaced if they are operating properly? Why was I never contacted by either company as to the status of my claim? Why are supervisors never available? How can my customer file be unable to be accessed for days at a time? How can American Home Shield charge me monthly premiums, charge me for a "SERVICE" call, never update me on the status of my repair and never intend to provide any services?

I have since called the switch manufacturer and obtained information on replacement light switches. I went to Home Depot and purchased switches and spent an entire day replacing some of them myself. I have since cancelled my services with American Home Shield. I believe my $100 bill should be refunded/cancelled and any premiums that I have paid to American Home Shield should be refunded to me.

The most recent claim I had with AHS is for my range hood on my kitchen stove. I'm still waiting on somebody to come and take care of that. My interactions with their techs have been good and my experience with them is adequate so far. There was confusion a couple of times, but they're out here working today and they’ve been out here four times on this one.

It was worked on in November, around Thanksgiving so it was good timing. Everything now is working good. I'd recommend them.

I used the online service request and received a response within 48 hours if I remember correctly and the technician was dispatched 4 days later. The technician troubleshot the problem and ordered the needed part and had it shipped to my house. A new appointment was made for the next week and the technician came and fixed the problem and the dishwasher is now working.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a washing machine. We filed the claim partially online. We set up the initial appointment online, and then it was through a representative after that once we had to go through several other steps. The representatives whom we spoke with were always very friendly and courteous.

The only problem we had was we had to call three different times to take a charge off. I owed $75 when somebody came out initially to look at my washing machine. Then American Home Shield made the choice to send out someone for a second opinion and they made it clear I did not owe them for that. But they accidentally charged me for it and I got a bill for it. Trying to have this corrected took three phone calls to three different representatives, who were all very friendly and helpful, but they didn't take the charge off correctly. So it took more effort than it should have, although everyone was very friendly.

The contractors sent by American Home Shield were also all very nice. They seemed to be tremendously knowledgeable. It turned out that the washing machine needed to be replaced rather than repaired, so we didn't go through the repair process but got another washer. Our new washer has been installed and everything's good because its performance is definitely better than the one we had before. I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield to a friend. In fact, I got my mom started on them and she's going to get American Home Shield as well.

Our heat pump broke on Christmas Eve. I knew repairs would be delayed - no problem. On 12/29 vendor arrived and diagnosed a leaking evaporator coil. He removed the coil and said he would attempt to repair and pressure test for 24 hours. I called the next day to follow-up. Vendor said they would call me back. No call. I called the next day - same response, same results. I called AHS. they left a message with the vendor. I called AHS back again and they said no call back from so AHS called again while I waited. Vendor advised the repair failed so they ordered a new part which was reason for delay but part was "on the truck" and should be available for install in next couple of days.

Two days later vendor called to schedule install and said they had REPAIRED my part and were ready to install -- 2 days out. I was not pleased and questioned vendor. They state they never advised AHS of replacement. I called AHS and got on conference call with Vendor and AHS. AHS transcript states replacement as repair not successful, but then they advised me that if vendor was ultimately able to repair then I would have to accept as it was warrantied for 90 days (This vendor repaired the same unit 5 months ago for a freon leak. Now I have to pay for freon again and hope that I don't have another leak after the 90 day warranty).

Anyway, I ask to speak to a Supervisor-none available will call in 24 hours. No call. I call again and request a Supervisor, none available, will call in 24 hours-no call. Vendor calls and says 10 minutes out. I can't make it there in that time frame -- too bad for me, 48 hours for next appointment - no timeframe either, just have to be available when they want to show up. I call AHS again, request Supervisor again, NONE working, will be 24 hours for call, 72 hours later no call. AHS seems to support vendor rather than their paying customer.

The mechanics and technicians who are called upon to help me do so within minutes, sometimes, and always within the hour, with a phone call to set up an appointment.

I am convinced by those who have worked on my projects that they appreciate AHS and make certain they handle those issues ahead of other things. They are always professional, neat, efficient and friendly. I tend to keep their contact information to share with others who either don't have the money or the wisdom to get a Home Shield Contract. As a policy holder and a Real Estate agent I was initially very pleased with my Home Warranty. Although being on hold for up to 40 minutes or more to talk to a representative was very frustrating. Once I was able to talk to a representative my problem was scheduled. I was originally very pleased but quickly learned that some of the technicians may not have had the experience or training to repair my appliances. They would continually put a "band aid" on a problem instead of addressing the fact that the appliance should be replaced. I did have on two occasions the ability to replace my microwave and then my dishwasher. They gave me a model number to replace the appliances I had with ones that were of less quality and had bad reviews. I opted not to go through their services to replace my appliances.

Last year when my renewal came, it dropped my original coverage, gave me a coverage with less options and increased my monthly fee by almost $30. When I called they couldn't tell me the reason. I recently received a notice that they were not renewing my policy. This is the thanks I get for recommending AHS to my buyers, sellers, neighbors and friends. No More!

They sent a company and assured us the company would be at our home that first night. No one showed, and when I told AHS they said it wasn't their problem. Since then, our furnace has still not been fixed and every person I have talked to has been rude, hung up on me, told me a supervisor would call (who never did), and they are sending out a "second opinion" contractor because the first didn't meet their standard in some way. The first contractor (Palmer HVAC) has also had a terrible experience with AHS. I wish our home warranty had never been purchased through this company.

Almost four weeks and washer repair has not been resolved. On Dec 19th my washer failed to operate. Being a member of American Home Shield I entered a repair request online. Monday Dec 21 I received a e-mail from AHS stating they were aware of the problem and was dispatching a repair rep. On Tuesday Dec 22 not hearing from the company rep I phoned them, to set a time. The rep and I agreed to a time of Dec 23 morning 8am-11am, with my wife and I both working. I had my father drive 40 miles to "house sit" waiting for the service rep. I called my father Dec 23 around noon to find the rep had not shown or called. I called AHS to find out the status of the repair. I was informed he was running late and would be at my home late that evening. At 5pm I called my father again to find him still waiting.

Once again I called AHS, who stated the rep would be out late that day. With my father 40 miles away from home, I chose to leave work so he could head home. Once home I waited to 9pm still without service or a call. I again called AHS to find that the rep would not be out to Dec 24 morning 8am.-11am. Again I had my father drive (40 miles) to meet the rep, which showed up around 10:30am. He stated that the motor had failed and would need to be replace or the whole washer which was up to AHS. He told my father that I would have a answer on the repair by Mon Dec 27. Once Monday Dec 27 had come and gone no contact from the rep or AHS was to me. ON Tuesday Dec 28 AHS was contacted to find out how the repair was going to be handled and when. I was informed by AHS that they had not received the information from their rep. but would find out and inform me.

Wednesday Dec 29 once again AHS was called to find the status of the repair. It was stated that they still had not received the information from the rep. The AHS customer service rep stated she would forward this matter to a supervisor which would contact me within 24 hours. Thursday Dec 30 without receiving a reply I contacted AHS trying to find the status of the repair. The AHS rep was able to reach the repair rep who told her that a motor was being ordered and that he was forwarding the information to them (WEEK LATER). I ask to speak to a supervisor or manager and was sent to a mailbox where I left a message. Was never called back by anyone.

Called again on Jan 4th & 5th questioning when my washer would be repaired. I was told both times that a motor was ordered and waiting shipment. Called again Mon Jan 11th still don't know when the repair will be done! I'm still waiting on a call as to when my washer almost four weeks later will be repaired. They receive my money on time, I would like the same when it comes to their service. Would not recommend this company to anyone!!! I could have paid for a cheap washer (4 weeks) in what I have spent in laundry cost.

There is only a checkbox, and I would have had to do two reports rather than have everything checked at one time. Because of that, my last provider wasn't aware that he was supposed to be checking two systems. By then, he could only check one because that’s the only thing that they had lifted on his service order. Once he realized it was two systems he was supposed to be looking at, he ended up leaving. He didn’t come back and do anything. He advised me though that I'd rather talk to someone than do it online, even though that is much more convenient. Nevertheless, it’s a good service. I have been making referrals and have got someone who’s probably going to sign up with AHS very soon.

They came out four times to fix the HVAC system on our rental home in which we paid $75 per visit. It was determined that we needed to replace the compressor and we would have to pay 1100.00 for 'freon replacement'. We decided to replace the system instead of paying that on a 14 year old system. We have waited one week for them to make a decision on how much they would have paid on a compressor. They keep saying they need to 'talk to the technician'. Don't waste your money on this warranty. When you call they do nothing but give you the runaround. We are still waiting.

Hello MaryAnn, we appreciate your taking the time to bring this to our attention. There are non covered items sometimes that come along with replacing HVAC units. We would cover for the compressor however, the freon would only be covered per the terms of the contract $10.00 per lb. You can opt for the cash in lieu fo the repairs and I see that you are awaiting that calculation. I tried to pull up your info and was unsuccessful. If you are still in need of assistance let me know. Thanks ^CW

I signed up for home warranty from AHS and had to cancel it within 6 weeks. My water softener needed repair. Service request was filed on Dec 8, 2015 and it took them over a month to come back and say they will not fix it since the technician said the softener had been broken for over 6 months and so was broken before contract started. I have been using the softener (it was working fine) and I know it broke after I signed up for contract. I called the technician contract company to ask how can a technician know it was broken for 6 months. They said it was his judgment and they cannot help me further. AHS give me option to choose second opinion and that I will have to pay the service fee again for second opinion. I said "No thanks" and instead choose to cancel.

Even during the month of delay I inquired why there was a delay and they said technician was not able to service since tenant canceled on him. I called the plumbing company and they said it was it was actually the technician who canceled and not the tenant. The customer service person at AHS was just rude. When I asked to connect to supervisor, she said supervisor is on vacation and she will send him email to call me. And of course I never heard from any supervisor. Anyway, I have had enough time wasted on this company. Gonna try some other company that cares about their customers.

The customer service for this company is horrible! It is a great idea to have a home warranty unless you actually have to submit a work request. If you submit a request, be prepared to wait 30 min or longer. This last call I held for over an hour just to get someone on the other end that was not so pleasant or understanding. My issue was initially with the vendor they had assigned to the work request. The vendor was not able to work with my schedule even though I had given him a week in advice. I called into AHS to see if they could assign a vendor that could guarantee service for the day that I was going to be home. The first representative end up putting me on hold to call the vendor. I was hung up on within 30 seconds. I called back again, waiting 30 min, this representative became upset when I just simply ask her to repeat what she had said because she was talking so fast.

In total I ended up speaking with 4 different reps and still was told I need to call back in the next day to speak with yet another person. I think I am not asking much to have a time appointed for someone to come out. I work a very full time job. I just expected not to be called at 7am in the morning for someone telling me they are in town and can come now. The vendor should be able to work with me with my schedule instead of me having to work around their schedule. I should be able to call in without the attitude to accomplish this task should I need to. I pay yearly for this service and honestly it is a hit or miss with the vendors but the customer service is always awful. I would not and will not be referring anyone to this company. BEWARE of customer service and the vendors they assign.

Submitting the claims was very easy and everyone I've ever dealt with was very friendly and customer oriented. They have provided me with information, submitted my claims and came out in a timely manner. But I didn't like one of the companies that they have referred so I've expressed to AHS not to ever send that company again.

The company came out but never looked at my garage door opener by the time they got finished. Then they told me I needed new garage doors, wrote me up an estimate that was going to be around $3,000 to replace doors, new openers, etc. But I found out it was really simple to fix my garage door. But aside from this, I've always had pleasant experiences with American Home Shield. Otherwise, I wouldn't still be with them if I was having those kinds of issues that will make me want to leave AHS at this point.

Service personnel came on Dec 31 later afternoon-evening. A part would need to be ordered. To date there was no more contact until I called AHS. They knew nothing about a part. I had to call the service company myself. The part is ordered. The service repair is now set for Jan 8. Will the part come or not? I spoke with an AHS supervisor that says all is out of her control. What I want as a customer of AHS for over 10 years is customer service.

Where is the "wow" factor? Why can't you track a washer part like FedEx or UPS or even the U.S. Postal service? Why doesn't a service industry pride themselves in Exemplary Service? I am out of a washer for almost 3 weeks so far. What if the part comes on Friday and the washer gets working? I am canceling my policy. I want a service company that actually cares about the customer. As the review with microwave that was left unprepared for 1 month. If I need to buy a new washer I will and I could have done that 2 days after it stopped working! Not waiting for 3 weeks to have a part hanging up the repair that should have been done right the first time on Dec 22.

I said, "Wait, how can it be a wrong installation because it's a brand new system and no one did touch the system?" Then, the technician came and I asked how can it be wrong. He said, "Oh, they put in a different amp. It's supposed to be 50 but they put in a hundred amps." I said, "Hundred amps? The whole house only takes a hundred amps. How can it be?" Hence, it's a wrong system. So they replaced the system, but I was charged for the parts. I should not be charged for a service call because it's not my mistake.

I am a real estate agent in the Greater Boston area and as a measure of protection to my first time home buyers I generally will purchase a home warranty for my clients through American Home Shield on their home or condo. Most recently, I purchased a protection plan at a cost of $350 and when my client reached out to your company to have his heating system serviced his claim was denied. The contract I am holding in my hand states that the warranty covers "insufficiently maintained equipment". When I contacted your company on my clients behalf I was told, the cleaning of an insufficiently maintained system was not covered as it was still operating.

Should this have been the first incident, I might be able to give you a pass as my failure to read the fine print. Rewind 12 months. I purchased the same warranty for another client who had a catastrophic failure of his boiler system in the middle of single degree temperatures. In a hurry he called his local oil distributor who did an emergency boiler replacement for him. When he filed the claim with AHS, it too was denied as he failed to call AHS first. The boiler replacement was $7,000 and he did not receive a dime toward replacement from your WARRANTY company. I sell anywhere from 10 to 15 homes per year. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in your failure to honor these warranties. You have not only done clients a disservice, you have not only compromised my reputation as the realtor of choice in my market. I recommend not using this company unless you like throwing your money away.

I have been with AHS approximately 9 years. Over the last 2 years I have noticed a decline in the level of customer service provided. They made a couple of mistakes that caused me overdue stress (billing mistake, not following up on repairs, etc). However, we worked through the issues and I continued to patronize the company. Until now!! I just received a letter stating I am up for contract renewal and to contact the company (this has never happened before). Was told the plan I have is no longer available and the plan they are offering me (the only plan I am being offered) will be almost 3 times the monthly cost!!

They claim it was because of usage!! What!? There were some years I never used the service and yet I continued to pay the monthly fee. I was curious so I logged into my account and found they documented 6 visits to my home for 2015. Ok, that's more than I have used the service in the past. But wait!! Two of the visits were return visits because the prior contractor didn't make the proper repairs!! I even paid for one of the return visits!! Call me crazy, but an increase of that magnitude because I actually used the service last year doesn't seem fair. So long, AHS.

After having a contract with AHS for over 4 years we had a serious issue with our plumbing on Dec. 31st 2015. We managed to get the water turned off and opened a ticket with AHS. They claim 24/7 service so we called to follow-up after opening the ticket online and received a message that they were only available from 7am to 7pm central time. So much for truth in advertising.

Then started the process of actually trying to get things fixed. We had to call the plumbing contractor, Allstate Plumbing, twice before we were able to get an idea of when they would be out to look at the problem. When they finally scheduled the appointment, we had to wait for yet another day. At this point did not receive a call back for over 5 days and then were told that the problem was not covered. At which time I called customer service, this is when things went from bad to worse. Spent 15 minutes on hold and after a few minutes of discussion I asked for a supervisor at which time Jontay told me she could not do that because she was not available and my only option was to call back.

Then I asked to resolve the coverage issue and she tried to transfer me to a "specialist" then I was on hold for another 5 minutes when she came back and informed me she was not allowed to be on hold for this long and I would have to call back again later. At this point I asked to cancel my contract and she hung up on me. I have now spent over 3 hours on phone calls without any resolutions. I do not know if this is indicative of all the customer service representatives, Jontay was having a bad day, or just bad management. Anyway, for a company that claims great customer service, 24/7 availability, and great coverage, I have yet to experience. As a short follow up, I did talk with customer retention and they were of great service. Samantha was very helpful in resolving our issues.

Sadly, I have had three plumbing problems in the past three weeks that have resulted in no water to the house. AHS has been both slow to respond and completely unwilling to get a contractor out in an expedited manner. A service request can go in at any time, but AHS gives the contractor 24 BUSINESS hours to schedule a repair, which is 4 days, 48 BUSINESS hours to initiate repairs, which is 8 days, and in Virginia, 72 BUSINESS hours to get a plan for repair in place. The contract I signed had no indication that the hours were anything other than elapsed. There is nothing in the contract that specifies "business" hours. For four days, I have been without water, hauling it in to water my farm animals when I could have called my normal plumber and gotten it fixed the same or next day. I won't have water for another two days, six in total. Unacceptable and in my opinion, fraudulent as this was not explained in advance of signing.

On December 24, 2015 AHS sent out Bacon Plumbing to our home for a minor sink leak and to repair our garbage disposal. At first everything seemed like it was going well. AHS had someone out fast to repair our leak under the kitchen sink and repair our garbage disposal. Before ever placing the service request to AHS we made sure to check whether the issues were covered under our home warranty and sure enough, AHS said they were. After Bacon Plumbing arrived at our home, he took a look at the leak under the sink and said that it would be covered and of course I thought this was great! Unfortunately, he said the garbage disposal wouldn't be able to be fixed and he needed to replace it. He then continued to say it wouldn't be covered. And I didn't really understand why but I agreed to pay the extra $150 and decided that it wouldn't be too bad since AHS was going to cover the leak.

A few minutes later after the plumber installs the new garbage disposal, he then tells me that AHS was going to be calling me because now all of the sudden out of nowhere this leak he said was going to be covered, now isn't. He now has all of the plumbing taken out from under my kitchen and there are broken pieces to our existing plumbing work on the floor. And he says to me that it's going to be another $175! I was shocked and confused as to why all of the sudden nothing is covered and now nothing works under my sink! It is an absolute mess. I had no other choice than to let him fix it because if not, I would have a kitchen sink that had no plumbing underneath!

After he starts fixing the plumbing under the sink, I notice that he is using very cheap and thin piping. I could literally bend it by squeezing it with my hand. I am disappointed because Bacon Plumbing/AHS misrepresented the coverage and damage during the diagnostic service with intentions to get more money for service. I do not plan on renewing my home warranty because I could have gotten cheaper and better service using my own plumber.

They automatically assigned the contractor and the next day contractor called me and scheduled the time they'd be available. They were good and very professional and they fixed the plumbing. I've had no complaints and I'd recommend them to a friend.

We've only used them once and so far I'm satisfied. Our air conditioner wasn't blowing out any air. Normally if I were to call somebody from the air conditioning place right here, they would charge me a lot. But with American Home Shield, it saved us a lot of money. I was upset with the first time because there was confusion with the conversation. I made an appointment with the air conditioning people directly. Then I called the air conditioning, and the original appointment got cancelled for some reason and they didn’t tell me. It was really hot during that time and I had to wait another week. But they finally came and took care of our problem. They did what they're supposed to do and they were thorough. They explained everything and my AC is in good condition after the repair.

I have had my account with AHS for 1 year. I pay my trade fee in advance so my tenants don't have to. I paid the trade fee and they entered it into the wrong category so in a month they locked my account so I couldn't order repairs online. Every time I call it takes 35-45 minutes before I get to speak to a rep, they tell me they see what the problem is then tell me they sent the correct form to correct the problem and it doesn't correct the problem. I have been dealing with them since October 2015. I asked to speak to a manager and am told there aren't any available. Do yourself a favor and do not buy a warranty from them.

I submitted a claim with AHS online and they set up an electrician from Turner Electric right away. The electrician called and set up the date and their guy who came was so courteous and checked stuff. We did it together and it turned out to be a ground fault interrupter. He spotted it and fixed it and he came on Christmas Eve too, so I was very happy. Every claim I've had, AHS got somebody out here immediately. They're up and up and fair. It's a $75 fee, but that's not a big thing. I'm satisfied with AHS.

I had an element went out in my oven. It's an older stove so it took us about a month to get the part in. A lady electrician came and she was really nice, very educated, knew what she was doing, and she got in and out of there. Then I had one plumbing issue AHS helped me with where they had to unplug a pipe that got plugged up in the bathtub.

Claim submission is very easy and user-friendly in how they do it. They were quick to respond to get your feedback. We had one date changed on the electrical part on the stove and they communicated it right away. With the contractors, I'm a personable person, so I was just talking to them while they were putting their stuff in. I was working from home, so I was a little distracted but I let them do their thing and stayed out of their way. Since the repair, the drains have been working properly. The contractor actually had to replace a section of the drain all the way to the P-trap. It's all functional and then the stove is fine too. Everything's good and 100%. AHS sent reputable contractors to put the parts in, and the deductible was reasonable as far as what you pay out of pocket.

I called AHS on Nov.12 to report that my dishwasher was not cleaning my dishes. First contractor wouldn't come until Nov.23 so I requested different contractor. AHS assigned 2nd contractor who came Nov.13. 2nd contractor couldn't/wouldn't repair it, so AHS assigned it to a 3rd contractor. 3rd Contractor finally on Dec.1 who said it needed new motor. New motor arrived, was installed badly. 3rd contractor had to come and re-install it. Dishwasher still didn't clean the dishes, exactly the same as when I first called about repair needed. 3rd contractor came back, verified dishwasher not washing properly, said it needed to be replaced. AHS said they needed that "diagnosis" verified. AHS sent 4th contractor, who came on Dec. 8, and said it needed a "new impeller". I didn't hear anything from the contractor or from AHS, so on Dec.18 I called AHS.

AHS said 4th contractor never reported any "diagnosis" to them about a "new impeller" so AHS called the contractor while I held on the line, and the contractor said he had forgotten to report the "diagnosis" and would do it right away. I still didn't hear anything, so I called AHS again on Dec.28. AHS said contractor still had not reported any "diagnosis". AHS called the contractor again while I held on the line, then came back on phone and said they couldn't contact the contractor and would put in a "contractor relations" ticket and I should hear something from "contractor relations" in 24 to 48 hours. On Dec. 30, I called AHS and they said they saw the "contractor relations" ticket, and they would put in a reminder and I should hear something in 24 hours.

Today, on Jan. 2, 2016, I called to see if "contractor relations" had any solution for me. AHS said no, could not see that anything had been done regarding "contractor relations" and he would put in an "internal" form. And that is where this stands. Also, AHS rep said there is no way for me to put in a complaint directly with AHS. So that is where this stands. I had terrible service from an air conditioning/heating contractor last summer through AHS also (almost 2 months of no air conditioning in July and August in North Carolina). I have recommended AHS to many homeowners over the past 20 years of handling home loan closings, but I certainly never will recommend them again.

In June the water in my refrigerator quit working and a electrical outlet in my bedroom was not working. The refrigerator guy came out fixed the issue. However, 6 months later the exact same thing has happened and AHS wants me to pay another service fee for it to be fixed again... which I feel is very unfair since it's the exact same issue and everything should still be under warranty. The electrical guy came out and had one heck of an attitude. He acted as if he was bothered to come out here. He fixed one light switch however, the outlet he said wasn't covered and he would write a diagnosis and submit it to AHS.

Waited a bit and heard nothing back so I tried calling him and he did not return my calls. I called AHS and they said they were waiting for a diagnosis and would call me back... which they never did. I called AHS a couple weeks later. Was told the same thing however; I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told a supervisor would call me back which never happened. I was so upset, felt this company was a scam so let it go until my fridge issue happened today. Called AHS and was told the diagnosis was never submitted but the work wasn't covered. How do they know without a diagnosis of what the issue is.

They offered to submit another work order to get a diagnosis but I would have to pay the Service call again. I told them I refuse to since that was included with the first service call which was never completed. I went round and round with them and finally asked for a supervisor, was put on hold for quite a while and was told a supervisor would call me back within 24 hours. Since today is Saturday and if no one called today would someone really be calling me on Sunday which was within that 24 hr time frame? I was told they weren't sure how that would work. I truly feel once they got their 600.00 in pocket they really don't care what happens afterwards.

Buyer beware! I bought this contract based on internet experiences for our new construction home and within a year of buying the home our a/c condensate drain line kept clogging. The company sent various a/c and plumbing contractors and all would do the exact same thing for $75 blow out the line and advise the line installed was not wide enough and the drain run was too long for the a/c unit. The company is calling this an "upgrade" to swap out our line for a wider one.

However, a working a/c unit in Florida is hardly an upgrade. The company is hiding behind the contract and forcing me to hire a lawyer to argue this point and the wording of the contract (which I believe to be in my favor but I am waiting for the Company to do the right thing here). The contractors the company uses are certainly not first rate and just scheduling the appointments were hassling and time consuming. I had several vendors confirm and not show up and one time after they discontinued use of a vendor they literally had no one in my area for a repair!!! Good luck if you choose to go with this warranty company!

We had a plumbing issue and a valve that was not functioning thus, we submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was easy. The issue was getting someone out to service the claims. We had an issue that went on for a week. The way they positioned it was, within a day, they’ll send a vendor out to the home but that was never the case. We found that with regards to plumbing – it has taken at least three to five days, if not a full week, to get someone out and it's very frustrating because you're paying several hundred dollars a year and then you have to wait. In my experience in the 10 years we've had the service, we wait way too long. The reason we have AHS is because we wanted to make sure that if we had some catastrophic issues pop up, we could get them addressed quickly especially when working and having two small kids at home. However, their service was disappointing.

We never got the response in 24 to 48 hours, except for one time our air compressor capacitor blew out and they got somebody to us within 48 hours. They replaced the capacitor, but that person who replaced the capacitor didn’t do the job correctly. I had it serviced by Bay Heating and Cooling, which is a local company, and he solved what the issue was. It was fine since the repair. The guy from the vendor was very nice. He took care of the issue, 100% knocked it out, no problem, replaced the two valves. He did a thorough job, so excellent. Another issue we've had is that I'm still getting billed from a separate plumbing issue that we had this summer where they had to call out a plumber who didn’t have a big auger to clean the mainline so they had to bring in a secondary plumber who had the right size to clean it.

And they're still sending me the $75 co-pay for the second guy so we've got a little bit of nuances like that. I would not recommend them to anyone else. If I had a similar situation and we had to move tomorrow, I wouldn't get a home warranty through them. I would probably get it through some other vendor. I just wouldn't wait a week when you had water running within the sink. There's no way for me to shut the water off. I could replace the pieces in the faucet I need to replace and it’s an easy job. I literally ended up – once the guy replaced the valve, I replaced this little piece in 90 seconds. So only four minutes to do what I needed to do but it took a week to get somebody to come out to shut off the water so the water just continued running. It was ridiculous and I'm paying six something upfront. It's like your fire and your police force, when you need them, you need them.

I have been with AHS for a few years now. My microwave suddenly stopped working beginning of DEC 2015. I have called AHS and submitted a claim for a Microwave on DEC 7 2015. AHS then created a dispatch and assigned a service request to a local company. I waited for the company to call but nobody called. I emailed that company but email went to invalid department in Canada. I called them on their phone which was listed on the email that I got from AHS but the phone was always answered by answering machine.

Later I was able to get hold of the company and they told me that they don't service my area and then later AHS redispatched my service request to another company (who is rated as D+ on the BBB). That company took some time to respond and they finally scheduled an appointment. Tech came and looked at the microwave and he said part is bad and need to be replaced. He said part would come in couple of weeks. After couple of weeks tech came (this was their second visit) with part to my home and discovered that it was not the right part. He said he is not sure if the microwave company still supplies the part that is needed and said he would send the diagnosis info to AHS. The company failed to submit information within agreed timeframe (24 hours). I had called AHS several and every time I was waiting for 30 mins to speak to a AHS rep.

When I was finally able to reach and talk to AHS rep, he/she said they will have to involve contract relationship department to get the company to submit the diagnosis information and it would take another 24 hours. I waited another 24 and called AHS again and AHS rep said diagnosis info came back with parts on order and it would take another week to get the part. I am not sure if the problem will be resolved anytime soon and it is causing lot of inconvenience to my family as microwave is really very critical component of the home. It will be a month soon and still no outcome. Without this warranty I would have walked into Home Depot/Lowes and bought the microwave. These are very cheap these days (few hundred dollars).

Once this issue is resolved, I will be terminating my contract with AHS as I don't think they really care about inconvenience faced by the customers. They just want to follow their processes. I don't understand how economical/affordable it is for AHS to have the company visit customer few times for a single service request when the cost of the appliance (microwave in this case) is really cheap.

Updated 1/6/2016 - I have submitted a separate review for my microwave issue recently and someone from AHS replied stating they would assign case manager. Couple days now I have not heard from the company. Bottom line stay away from this company. They don't care about any inconvenience caused to the customer.

    Original Review: Jan. 1, 2016

To start off, my 3 year old has cancer and those of you who are familiar with the situation can understand that when it's 100 degrees in your house and you have a child already fighting for her life, the air quality and coolness is a huge factor. Our AC broke in July 2015. My husband, daughter and I just got home from 5 weeks of staying in Boston for a clinical trial for our then 2 year old. Our AC wasn't working correctly. Wasn't blowing out air, or cool air at that. And the temp inside kept rising. Called made a claim. Came out "fixed" it. Shortly thereafter, within a week it broke again. Obviously same issue. Made another claim. They came out and fixed it again. Same thing happened almost every 2 weeks from July to October.

My daughter was in and out of the hospital quite a few times in that time frame. Her cancer had the majority to do with it but the heat in the house didn't make it any easier on her. She has a rare cancer which her tumor is wrapped around her heart and has collapsed her left lung. So when it's hot, you sorta pant. Well, try panting while only having one lung doing all the work. So you can understand my frustration of my AC not being fixed the first time. By the end of October the AC was finally fixed. But I got a 75$ bill, now I paid the service fee in July. And considering the unit was never fixed in all this time, I wasn't understand why I had another bill they wanted me to pay. Apparently it was a different part that was on the last call. But the fact of the matter is it took them 5 months to figure out what was wrong. Kept leaving my house saying "it's fixed" and it stop working within hours of them leaving.

So I'm stuck with a bill that I refuse to pay because of the longevity of the situation and the fact they could care less when I told them how this could all affect my child. They didn't seem to care my child had cancer. They didn't seem to care the importance of the situation. I shouldn't have to pay a bill for something that as never fixed after I had paid the first time. Believe me, if my daughter wasn't sick I wouldn't be this upset. I would probably pay the same fee for the second time. But my daughter is sick and she's fighting for her life yet you send out a ** company who doesn't know what they were doing. And after the 4th time I wanted a new company to come out because obviously they were missing something. I'm very dissatisfied with this company. And I guess I'll be on the hunt for yet another home warranty company, this was supposedly the highest ranking which is why I came to you.

In my opinion, the most crooked company I have ever had to deal with in my life. Took them 3 months to replace the thermostat on my furnace. They sent out a couple of kids to install a microwave for me -- that was a joke. I had to hire a handyman to install it correctly. Now after 6 weeks and visits from two marginal pool technicians, AHS has decided that it will not cover repair of my pool heater and control unit "because the controller has an electronic board inside." What doesn't today? Every furnace, water heater, dishwasher, washer, and dryer has an electronic board inside.

After I called to cancel my useless contract, a woman from AHS called and said if I canceled, AHS would never offer me a warranty again. Like I would ever deal with them ever again. After I canceled my contract, AHS charged two months of fees to my American Express Card without my permission. As I said previously, the most crooked company I have ever had to deal with. Beware!!

I have had to pay for busted pipes, a busted furnace, and a busted garage door opener - all of which I was assured were covered when I purchased home shield. They are happy to hook you up with a repair person (If they can find one. They often cannot!!) because you pay for that (and the service call fee is usually more than what those repairmen charge anyway so loss to home shield customer right off the bat). They will also insist on having a different person for each "issue". For example, they were going to require me to have a different person come and check on a furnace, a pipe issue, and a water heater issue even though one professional with the appropriate certification can handle all of them. This is part of what they do. The aim is to make it so frustrating and costly for you to use your 'home shield' that you essentially give up.

The contractors whom I have met who are sent by home shield also cannot stand them. The garage door opener guy told me "they make you pay me more than I charge for a diagnostic visit and then, 9 times out of 10 they say the problem is something that isn't covered". People in customer service immediately assume a war stance when dealing with any kind of claim. You can tell they have been extensively trained by corporate and their mantra seems to be "do and say ANYTHING to avoid paying on a claim". In short... Look elsewhere. American Home Shield is a scam. They have never paid on anything they said they would cover. They have cost me additional time and money (and incredible frustration) as a consequence.

I do not want what we experienced to be experienced by anyone else. Our dishwasher had a seal break so we contacted the company. They were very pleasant and had a contractor call us within a day. He was out and assessed the problem immediately. He said he needed to order a part and would be back in about 10 days once the part comes in to repair. We paid him $80.00 for a $75.00 service call. He informed us that he would bring back the $5.00 on the next visit. Well, weeks went by and we did not hear anything back. So I then called American Home Shield to inform them of the problem. They got the contractor on the phone and confirmed that he would be out the following Tuesday. Tuesday came and went...no contractor. He was a No Call, No show.

So we called American Home Shield again and they contacted the contractor. So, they said that the contractor would reschedule, again. I repeatedly asked to be assigned to another contractor since we have had so many issues. They said we need to follow protocol. So we did. On the next appointment day, we received a call that the contractor had to cancel. So I called American Home Shield again. They said they needed to follow protocol and that they would reschedule the appointment again. I asked multiple times to be connected with a supervisor. I finally was and left her a message. I was assured that I would receive a phone call by the end of business. As expected, No call and still NO Resolution. Once this Company has their money, they do not care if they fix your items.
