Great service! For years I have had items fixed but I really wanted to test the replacement feature of our contract. Finally a need came to where we had repaired our stove 4 times and there were no other options and AHS did exactly what they said they would do - replaced it! Great service, quick replacement and easy process!

American Home Shield is always responsive. My furnace went out last year so I submitted a claim online and they couldn’t do anything because there’s nobody there on a weekend. I had a phone number of the vendor that they used, so I called them and he wasn’t supposed to do anything until he got a control number. I told him that I’ve got an 80-plus-year-old mother who is disabled. I said, “I can’t have a house that’s freezing. If it were just me, I wouldn’t care.” He was very nice. He came out on Sunday and fixed my furnace, and he said he would just get the number on Monday when they call. He didn’t have to and that was pretty thoughtful. All the people AHS picked have been really good. It's a good choice of vendors.

AHS is really good and I’ve never had a problem. One thing though that I wish they are still doing is the complimentary pre-summer and pre-winter check of everything, somebody to come out to check and make sure everything was fine. They stopped doing that, and that would have been nice. Right now, I got to pay for somebody to come out and do it, out of my pocket versus through them. It’s not a really big deal. There’s a lot of places that offer that now, but that was a nice little service that they used to do. That's the only thing I miss.

The gas water heater in my garage would not heat the water. American Home Shield sent out a contractor to look into the issue. The gas control was found not working. The contractor from J & K Plumbing discovered the problem and said he had the part in his truck to replace it. Within 30 minutes, the water heater was up and running. Thank you!

We bought a home in April of this year and paid an additional $340 to add "pool and spa equipment" to our home warranty plan. This covers "above ground and accessible working components and parts of the heating, pumping and filtration system, including: pool sweep motor and pump - pump motor-plumbing pipes and wiring." Our pool pump stopped working three weeks ago and we called AHS. They sent a contractor out, who stated the circuit board was not working and the pump needed to be replaced. He told us there was water damage, which could have been caused from anything (it's a pool pump, which circulates water). AHS denied our coverage entirely because they only cover "normal wear and tear" and "water damage" is not covered.

I asked for the contractor's report and they do not get written reports - only verbal, and would not provide me anything in writing with an actual professional report by a licensed contractor. In other words, they hear what they want to hear. My question: how can you exclude water damage for outdoor pool equipment? It circulates water, and if anything goes wrong with the pump, it will get water into it. We have our own contractor's opinion now and plan to take them to small claims court or have them pay the $1500 business-paid arbitration fee to dispute this refusal to cover under the warranty. I just had to be sure I told the public NOT to presume you are covered by home warranty when you buy your home. They will deny, deny, deny and give you no documentation to support their denial.

First initial contact easy and fast. The actual technician that made first service call was nice, professional and very helpful. Came out on Christmas Eve. AC is out and it has been near 80 with near 100 percent humidity. Floors are sweating, doors and windows not opening or closing well due to humidity levels. It is absolutely miserable. We were told it would take 3 business days to receive part. Should have been ordered same day but wasn't ordered until Monday. Still trying to be patient, but called service company to see if there was any way to rush. A friend had found the coil about an hour's drive from our home so we wanted to offer to drive and get the part. For some reason the company that was assigned to us was from another city over an hour away.

When we called him on Monday, 4 days after initial service call, he said "Are you one of those warranty things"? He had no idea if the part had even been ordered yet and said he would call back after five. When he called he said it was ordered that day and would be 3 to 5 days for them to receive the part. So we are looking at another week at least with no air. The contractor, assume it was the owner of company, was completely hateful and basically told us we were stupid for thinking our floors sweating and door frames swelling could be caused from no air conditioning. It is so warm we have to open windows to be able to stay in our home. He yelled when I offered to go get the part for him and said he does not conduct business that way. He told me that I should get someone else to do my repair.

After contacting AHS multiple times and asking for help from this rude contractor I was told it would stay with that contractor and the part had been ordered. They had no interest in correcting the situation or our family's discomfort. We are currently on the road to stay with family 4 hours away until we can have AC repaired. I would not recommend the AC company or AHS to anyone. Customer service is a complete joke with this company. If everything goes smoothly they are fine, but if there is a problem with contractor it's your problem.

The issue was resolved, as the dryer will be getting repaired early next week.

    Original Review: Dec. 29, 2015

As first time owners, we were told to get American Home Shield so we could have peace of mind. When our dryer broke, we called, paid the $75 service fee and a technician came to our home. After the technician diagnosed our dryer, he reported back to AHS right in front of us so they could let us know if the issue was covered under our insurance. This occurred three weeks ago.

We have been calling ever since and every time we call we get the same response, "We don't know what is going on because this is handled by a different department, oh and the technician that went to your home is now on vacation so we are unable to know what is going on." We chose AHS because it was recommended to us by friends but this has been the worst customer service I've seen in awhile. We're disappointed in how this has been handled and who knows when we will have a functioning dryer.

I pay about $90/month for AHS protection and insurance services. They sent me a company - Excalibur Heating- to repair my heat on Dec 21, 2015. 9 days later and I still have had no communication from AHS or Excalibur. I waited on hold for over 30 min TWICE with AHS just for them to tell me they will not pay for the repair (big surprise!) and they are washing their hands of the situation and I need to deal with the company directly. I explained that Excalibur does not respond to my calls/msgs and they have not contacted me and they have taken my $100 service fee/consultation charge and disappeared. AHS couldn't care less and they said there's no recourse for me, they cannot help me. They wouldn't even send me out another repair company! Isn't that what I'm paying them for?!

I have no choice but to pay out of pocket $400 for the repair, but I cannot get any help from them for this Excalibur who disappeared with my $100 and left me with no heat in Dec for over a week already, with no information on how long it will be until it is fixed. Don't I have the right to assume that AHS researches these service companies to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen?! AHS is ok to take my money for this "warranty protection plan" but as soon as something breaks, AHS just says "sorry we can't help you". I am so frustrated and angry at this low level of service, they did not fulfill their end of the contract, and my house is still cold!

On December 20, 2015 I placed my first service request to American Home Shield for a malfunctioning garbage disposal. The process to submit a request was easy. In no time I had a work order number and the name of the contractor who would be in contact with me. On Tuesday December 22, 2015 the contractor SDL Plumbing came to my residence to assess the problem. The contractor walked in, I showed him the problem areas to which he looked at for about 5 mins and then he stepped outside for about 20 mins to call AHS.

The contractor came back in and informed me AHS would NOT cover my repair due to the fact that it violated the contract because it was a pre-existing condition that should have been visibly detectable upon my own inspection. He told me that water "had to have been leaking from the disposal for an extended time" because of the peeling from the bottom of the sink cabinet. I informed him that the water was recognized 4 days ago and the cabinet is made of laminate and composite material not real wood so the slightest contact with water would cause it to peel. Then he said it was rust on my disposal, which he would not or could not point out to me. He took pictures of the job to what I assume to prove his case to home shield. When I asked for further information he told me that AHS would be in contact with me.

I took the matter up with AHS first the authorizations department, who after a 20 mins conversation the lady told me she couldn't help me and wasn't able to answer my questions. I called a second time and got more of the same. After the second call I asked that a lead or supervisor call me back. I did have a lead call me and during this conversation I asked if they would share the pictures of the rust that would justify my denial and she said they didn't have pictures and they go solely off of the contractor’s word. I asked if they could get the pictures from the contractor and she said they would try but there was no guarantee.

In the midst of waiting for action from the authorizations department, 2 days later I get a voicemail from someone saying they cancelled my contract. I had not authorized a cancellation. I called back for support to rectify this additional issue and the customer service rep stated that they could not help me. I asked to talk with a supervisor who based on info from the customer service rep refused to take my call because they couldn't help me.

Their customer service is extremely poor and you can never get to a layer of management that seems to care about the customer. No one could explain the cancellation process to me nor how I would be charged for a whole month yet only allotted 11 days of service especially since I had a pending claim dispute. On top of that the rep basically implied I was lying about how my account to was cancelled when I have a voicemail to show that no one spoke to me prior to cancelling my contract. This has been a nightmare. It has been a cycle of long wait times, customer service reps who take their titles lightly that have no desire to actually help and an inability to reach out to management or anyone for that matter that would take the time out to talk to me like I was actually a paying customer.

I didn't have any problems submitting a claim for my stove. AHS have used this guy before who's very good and excellent. The service provided was very good. On the other hand, when my toilet was stopped up, the man who came out to unstop my sewer wasn't a very nice man. We had a lot of going back and forth and he didn't get his job done. I called him today and asked him to waive his fee because I had to pay someone else to finish what he started. That was a horrible experience. AHS' plumbers are not good and almost every time, I've had to get somebody else to come out here and finish something that they were supposed to do. I've done it twice in the last six months. So I don’t give many good points for half of the plumbers they’ve sent out to my house.

Call AHS to take care of and they do not have a satisfactory mechanism in place to take the lead and resolve an incompetent contractor. They turned my case over to another department who I was assured would stay on this and resolve. Over a week later still no call from anyone. American Home Shield needs a better alert system for unhappy customers. 5 weeks and still have broken appliances is not acceptable by any standard of a home warranty.

I've got a plumbing problem and it was a basement clog. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was pretty easy as I called them up and got a call that same day from a plumber in the area to schedule. He wanted to go the next day but I couldn't make it so I told him to meet me Friday and he showed up on time and checked the plumbing line. He explained that I had an older house and the way the drain worked down there. He seemed pretty knowledgeable and gave me a card so that if I had any questions I could give them a call if I needed something else and they'll get back out. I paid $75 at the time to the plumber but I didn't know that there was a tax amount so I got a bill from American Home Shield for $10 to cover tax - a state thing that they had nothing to do with. At any rate, I'm satisfied and would renew American Home Shield. I have an older home and I think it's worth it.

We did have other toilets in the house but the point is that one is stuck and I couldn't see anything. The way that the master bath is built there is no door between the bath and the bedroom so I couldn't sleep in our bed the whole weekend. It became a value proposition point for us because we thought we were paying all these money and normally, we could just call somebody ourselves and get them here right away. It was their procedure that really stunk. I was very dissatisfied with their timing. But since the repair, we've had no issues with it. In fact, it was fine that the contractor came back and it worked out very well with a few other things. But with that incident, it made us think if we want to keep it. So far, they've been pretty good.

They were pleasant and helpful. 11.25.2015 Dan with Service First called, came and determined that it was just leveled wrong, made some adjustments which included straightening the top rack took my $125 and left.

Before he was out of the drive, I began to load the dishwasher and the top rack broke completely - it fell down to the bottom rack. So I ran out and brought him back in and then he determined that now I needed a new top rack. But I could still use the dishwasher, bottom rack only. Well the next day, the door would not stay closed again (original problem). I called Dan (Service First) and left a message explaining that the dishwasher was inoperable. Knowing we were in a holiday weekend, I was not expecting a prompt call back and resolved it would be the following week.

11.30.2015 I called Dan (Service First) and left a second message explaining again in case he missed the first message. 12.1-3.2015 I called Dan (Service First) and left a THIRD message explaining again in case he missed the first and second message. In this message I asked that he at least call me back and let me know if I wasn't supposed to be calling him or if was getting messages.

He called in the second week of December to schedule putting the top rack in, I asked him if he had received my messages, he said yes, but felt no need to call me back - HIS WORDS. Well OK. And by the way he needed parts from the top rack of which was just luck that I didn't throw it away because it wouldn't have fit in the trash that week! So he replaced the top rack and adjusted the door again and left. AND YOU GUESSED IT the door won't stay shut and the dishwasher won't complete a cycle.

12.13.2015 So I called AHS and explained to them that I was calling them this time as their service provider felt no need to return calls to the customer. AHS was pleasant and Dan called and came by and adjusted something else that made the door nearly slam shut when you let go of it (as long as it would run I was ok with it). But that only lasted 2 days and now the door won't even shut at all.

12.17.2015 Knowing that calling Dan, Service First would do me no good, I called AHS. This time frustrated, I asked at what point will we do something different so my dishwasher could be fixed. AHS informed me that THEY WILL JUST KEEP SENDING THE SAME MAN OUT (WHO AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS HAS YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM). The only way they will change vendors is if he doesn't show up. He has 48 hours to respond to a request from them (not from you). I have no redress, I can not get my money back. They will try to call him for me though. Yeah, that's helpful. And they will send an email to the AHS vendor relations department for me? What? What does that do for my dishwasher? Or me, whom I thought was their customer but no not really. After a month of run around they will send an email to a different department in their own company that's it. Yea.

12.20.2015 PAST 48 business hours later, I call AHS and ask what shall we do now? They suggest I call back later that day. They put me on hold and try to get Dan on the phone themselves but they had to leave a message too. 12.20.2015 LATER that day. I called back and asked them to read through the drama on my account (I am so tired of telling each new person I talk to my address, my phone, my problems from day one. Each and every detail again and again banging my head against the wall at this point. Well she says true it is past the 48 hours, she'll send an email for me to her other department and she'll leave another message for Dan?!?

I asked for a supervisor. He reads of his screen the same prompts. 36 minutes on this call alone and he has no other way to help me, there is no one else to talk to, there is no changing service company, there is no complaint process - he can do nothing. He will however send an email to that other department. Yea ok. So now I want to cancel. After holding for 5 minutes to cancel my service he tells me he can't transfer me to the Retention Department because they are closed, I'll have to call back tomorrow.

12.22.2015 I see a missed call from Dan on my phone. A single ring, NO MESSAGE. I called him back immediately and it went to his voicemail. I left a message. 12.22.2015 (today the day I am typing this out) So during my call AHS to cancel my service, after I have held for 16 minutes I finally got a human and then I see it's Dan calling! So I ask AHS to hold a moment. Dan, very matter of factly informs me he will be in my area between 12-2. I simply respond with OK. He hangs up. I switch back to AHS and tell her (AHS) that he (Dan, Service First) just called and he will come today. So. she doesn't know what to do and I say I just want my dishwasher fixed and this guy so far hasn't done it. She says she can refuse the vendor so I can get someone else. Really? Wow? Since this whole month and many AHS personnel I have spoke to never gave this option.

12.22.2015 Dan (Service First) was just here. Now he says it's my floor??? This house is 15 years old and all of a sudden the floor is too slick and he can't fix it. What? But Dan (who has the actual power, who is AHS customer not me as I have figured out) will now put in a request to send someone else. It seems to me that AHS true customer is the contractor. They really don't care about the consumer, they are just a funnel for the contractor who may or may not be any good. So Know what you are paying for. Slick! You are paying a company to funnel your business to another company. I intend to update this when my dishwasher drama resolves. Hopefully AHS will decide to actually get the appliance fixed. Stay tuned.

We had a stoppage in our drainage line. We could not use any of our plumbing, including toilet. AHS expedited the service to fix in 24 hours. They didn't have any contractors to fix it until 2 days later and claimed that was the best they could do. Based on the contract they must reimburse the repair if they cannot provide the service. I had to get it fixed with another company and asked to be reimbursed. After spending countless hours on the phone and sending numerous emails there has been nothing done to rectify the issue. I am very frustrated at their lack of accountability and poor customer service. I would expect the opposite from a company that is in the service industry.

MY advise - look elsewhere. DO NOT USE AHS. Here is my story. My Central Air broke three weeks ago. I called American Home Shield since I have a home warranty. The contractor came, was in the home for five minutes first telling me maybe it isn't working because of the filter or maybe needs the drain line cleaned. Except that the air conditioner is not functional and mechanically doesn't even turn on! So I don't think the filter is going to make it start. Anyway after the first visit, he reset a switch and it worked for a bit and then broke and still is broken. I called AHS and they told me I have to use the same vendor that I used two weeks ago (That didn't fix the issue) or else the warranty is not valid. So I call him and he tells me to call the next day.

So here I am waiting to call him tomorrow to see if he can show up to tell me the filter needs changing even though no air is coming on (It is 80 degrees inside the house). And the clincher is that if he doesn't answer his phone (He only has a cell phone) then I have to wait two days and start the process again with someone else. So I will be without air for a week when I could call someone and have them here tomorrow if not for AHS. Merry Christmas to me!

I had been calling AHS for the last month regarding having to replace my dishwasher. It was easy submitting a claim to them. I didn't have a problem apart from the day I missed their call and had to call back as when I did, it was in the afternoon and I had to wait about 45 minutes on hold. But as far as them doing the job, they do it very efficiently. The guys that came to look at the dishwasher realized the part was not being made anymore and realized they were gonna have to replace the whole unit. But they did call to see if they could get the part, then referred me back to American Home Shield, and it went through very smoothly. They delivered the dishwasher today. It was nice that when they pulled the first dishwasher out, they asked me if I'd like to clean before they put the other one in. After they got it all in, they showed me how to work it and that was very helpful.

Two things happened during our most recent claim. One, our fire area needs work and we had that repaired. I think it was $265. And the water started backing up in our sinks and bathtubs. We called Brothers in to examine it and discovered that there was a pipe burst down under the house, and they replaced that. I've spent $2,400. I wasn't aware of the warranty. When after this was all over, my wife told me that we had a warranty and that she has monthly payments for that. When I discovered the warranty on the house in terms of different works we've done, we opened it up and I called AHS. When I called them, they said that we should fax it to them. Initially, my wife faxed it in and she used a wrong number, so I faxed it in yesterday to see what can be done (Some type of reimbursement or what have you).

The service that AHS got for us was very good and they were very helpful. Brothers came in and did all the work for the plumbing, and Fireside came in and we had to work with them about three times to get them to get the right piece to start the fireplace. As far as the plumbing is concerned, it's been very good. With the fire people, we're having problems right now because all of a sudden, my wife is trying to turn it on yesterday and it wouldn't work, so we called them to come and repair it again.

I have been a client of AHS since August, 2015 and this was my first encounter with this company. It took them two weeks to set up an appointment with a plumber for my emergency. Two weeks with no shower so far and counting. My appointment with the plumber was today at 2 pm. At 2 pm I called AHS to make sure that a technician is on time, and they informed me - only then when I called myself - that he will be a little bit late. A little bit in their terms is 1 hour.

To cut long story short - 16 calls to AHS and 4.5 hours of wait later - plumber never came. In these 4.5 hrs nobody could give me a definite answer whether he is still coming at all, and what time if he is. Three times I asked to connect me with the supervisor, after which girls just dropped the calls. One time I was transferred to the supervisor's answering machine and had a chance to leave my phone number. Nobody called me back. One time the AHS customer service employee promised me to call back and never did. One time they actually gave me the service company's phone number after I asked for it 4 times, and that was already after working hours - so nobody answered.

I am completely frustrated, my shower is not working, the plumber never came, I don't know when he is going to come, nobody in AHS is giving me answers. And nobody is apologizing. I lost half a day from my work, 500 usd of income, 30 usd on phone calls with AHS. And I don't have no result or promise of it. The worst customer service experience in my life.

The service on my Bryant heat pump has been lousy. AHS cannot get a vendor. I finally had to go find a vendor cause nobody would work on it for AHS' rights. Every time I said it's a two-speed compressor, everyone backed up. Everybody had every excuse in the world. This is not the first time I've dealt with this problem with AHS. They need to get their plan together and up their game. This was a replacement unit for my wonderful Trane that they couldn’t fix. If they're going to recommend a unit, they better have services for it, but they don't. They always give me the caveat, "Yeah, we'll come work on it, but we'll have to wait until our lead tech has time to come look at it. So it may be a couple extra days." That's better than no days at all, but I am very disappointed in this.

Everything else I have done with AHS is pick up the phone, place the call, they send a vendor, the vendor comes out and takes care of it. Just like when the Will Pump died. I placed the call, the vendor called within an hour and within 5 hours, they were on site. An hour and 15 minutes after that, they were finished. This is the service I expect. It took me a month and a week to get the problem resolved on my air handler on my Bryant. But overall, AHS is a good company to work for. This one thing, I cannot seem to get it through their heads.

My most recent claim has been fixed. Miller Pools has been taking care of my pool pumps. I've actually had them out twice and they were absolutely wonderful. They were prompt, courteous, and they took care of the problem. They're experienced and they knew what they were doing. I have an ongoing problem with one of the providers and Home Shield has been working on getting that taken care of. They sent out another provider, and they were very quick in adding somebody else to the problem. Submitting a claim to them is easy, and they seem very easy to work with in taking care of issues quickly. The only thing I don't like about their coverage is that if you have an issue where they have to go through a wall or tile, they don't cover that. I didn't realize that until I had an issue where they had to do that, but otherwise they're fabulous.

When I was sold this warranty, I asked the sales guy if when I have a claim will my products get replaced with what I have or will they be sub par? I was told they should replace with the same as I have. That's why I chose AHS. Well my hot water started leaking. I made a claim. Plumber Am Pm plumbing here in Phoenix came out. He diagnosed the problem and then charged me 100.00. I asked how long will it take. He said "No we can't fix it. We have to order yours in. We will call back to reschedule." A bit upset said ok.

Well he shows up with a sub par faucet. It was plastic and chrome with a non stainless tank. My faucet is stainless steel and had a stainless tank. I was told American home shield will only warrant builder grade by the plumbing company. Total crap. Now what I already paid and was told no refunds will be honored. American home shield is a fraud.

I requested service for some plumbing issues in my house. The contractor was prompt in calling me the first time to set an appointment and I asked that they call ahead before coming so that I could be sure to be home because they gave me a 4 hour window. They did not call and they came in the middle of the window. They looked around at the issues I named and when I showed them a particular issue the woman said, "I've never seen this before, I'll have to get with another technician." That didn't give me much faith. She said she would call AHS to verify whether the items were covered or not and get back with me. This was on a Friday. Monday came and no phone call. Tuesday I called to ask to get back on their schedule but there was no mention of the items not being covered, which I found out later through an AHS rep calling with a message.

I was scheduled for another 4 hour window from 10-2 today (Thursday) and asked that they call ahead of time so that I could be sure I was home. No phone call came and by 3:00 no one had shown up so I placed a call to AHS who then called them and received the answer that someone had come by but I was not home. Again, no phone call was ever placed to me to let me know they were on their way and I had even called around 12:30 to get a status on when they should expect to arrive. I told the AHS rep to cancel the request -- not that they would have showed up anyway. I'm disappointed with the choice in plumbing contractors as I had a "not-so-great" experience earlier this year with another plumbing contractor. All other types of service have been great.

I submitted online, clicked through things and it's done. The contractor who was sent to our house was a nice guy. He sat there and talked the whole time he was working on it. He explained what he was doing. That was good. But the contractor took a while to come. They've been waiting on a part for quite a while now, about a month or so, to come back and finish repairing it. I like the technician and he seemed very knowledgeable. But the time it's been taking is quite long. So my experience with them is kind of mediocre.

The contractor was excellent, informative and took his time to explain things especially the cold upgrade that we were going to need and the things that would be done wrong on the initial installment which may have caused it to go wrong. We had two service contract companies tell us that this was a normal condition, caused by heat condensation. AHS stated it was most likely caused by rainwater. This is a sealed area; rainwater CAN not enter. AHS refused the claim. Their contract stated that if the units could not be repaired a nominal fee would be paid. I see legal action in the near future. There are 450 other complaints at other websites.

Then when the part numbers they said they ordered didn't make sense, they said they ordered a Carrier, a lesser quality but acceptable to us. When the repair company showed up to install, they had a Bryant, the cheapest option. Totally unacceptable in terms of quality, but too late to do anything about it. Whether it was telling us what they ordered, when it was ordered, when it was delivered to the contractor or anything else, we never got the same (or a correct) answer twice from their customer service. While polite, they were either incompetent or deceptive, I'm not sure which, and then supervisor was of no help. I would NOT recommend American Home Shield to anyone. Pay a little more to another home warranty company, and hopefully they will be honest with you and not like AHS.

I submitted a claim for my dryer repair to the AHS website and the company they contracted came to assess the situation. They said that I was missing a gasket on the door which had to be replaced. They put the claim into Home Shield. The repairman was thinking that Home Shield would tell me that they would replace the machine considering what a new dryer costs. We were without our dryer for almost 3 weeks. But they put in the claim and the guy came out on a Friday, replaced it, and then subsequently another piece of the machine broke. I put in another claim, and they came out. The newer belt shredded one of the wheels of the conveyor. The new belt broke like the old plastic drum belts. So then, he put in another claim and this time it was $350.

At this point, it was almost $800 to have it repaired and of course, Home Shield would approve it. It didnt seem like the smartest business decision on their part. To put $800 into an old machine when they could have cut their losses and just said, "Hey, we'll get you a new one or replace it, or give you something." I know sometimes that Home Shield would say basically, "We'll pay for a new one." Sometimes they don't replace top of the line models but they would replace with a dryer and they might say, "We're gonna spend $400 for a replacement for you. But if you want to upgrade, you would pay the additional." I would have been fine with that but that option was never made. I found it strange that they had put $800 into an old machine. Because it's an older machine, it breaks down more and the parts themselves become expensive because they're not readily available.

I had a problem with the garage door spring and although it's easy to submit a claim, to get the job done is a joke. I'm the one who always takes care of any service calls and all of a sudden, they say that I'm not permitted to do so and my wife had to permit me, but she'd already done that two years ago. As I explained to the AHS person, all she had to do was to look at our previous service calls and she would have found out that I was the one she had spoken to.

On the other hand, the contractor AHS sent was fantastic, and so does the garage door. He told me what it would cost and that he could get it done. He stood, waited and made sure that our door was going up and down when he left. We paid him directly because apparently, garage door spring isn't covered. He also explained that American Home Shield prefers to use rebuilt parts versus replacing them. I'm the one that called twice on our pool pump because the first one that had been put in was rebuilt which went out after three months. On my second call, a different contractor came out and laughed because I knew what happened. AHS uses band-aids on their stuff and so the guy who was here the last time reiterated that fact and told me to go to a different company. Our policy is over and we will go shopping.

Most of my time with AHS had been a very good experience. They are very service-oriented and provide highly satisfactory work. Recently, our toilet was clogged and the toilet seat was leaking. The plumber came after a seven-day period and fixed it. However, I wish that he could have come earlier but maybe they were busy they could not do it earlier. Otherwise, the work done was very good. It took him forty minutes and he was gone. I have another house with a different company but I prefer American Home Shield so I may have to change them and switch.

I had AHS a couple of years ago when I used to own another house in Hot Springs, and it helps and is worth paying the extra monthly payments because it will cover whatever problems I have under the policy. That's why I got AHS again when I got another house. So far, they've been working fine for us. We had a claim about our AC unit and the person that came from Little Rock found the problem right away. It was the relay that went out so he replaced it. It took only around 30 to 45 minutes to fix the problem.

I called American Home Shield before for the garbage disposal. It was difficult because we couldn't get anybody on the phone, it just takes a while for them to get to the phone. It's always busy or we have to wait. In fact, we waited for days to even get somebody to answer the phone However the contractor they sent out was really nice. We had no problem with the company. Once they got the message that we needed them, they came really quick.

The garbage disposal that we called before was fixed perfectly while our other claim re plumbing was good too. I don't have a problem with the contractor. I will call them again, even if I didn't have insurance because we thought it was something worse but it wasn't. He could have charged a lot of money, but he didn't. We only had to pay $75 but American Home Shield could have paid a whole bunch of money. He said he's seen the problem before and to let him know if it doesn't work, but it has been fine ever since. They're fabulous. Excellent service.

On Nov 8, 2015, I made an online service request to AHS for servicing on a gas cooktop which has a glass top that shattered while cooking. A local contractor was assigned and after I followed up they immediately came and took pictures and promptly informed AHS the need for replacing the part or the equipment. I was told to contact AHS after 4 - 5 days if I do not get a response from their customer service representative. I called on Nov 16 and received different answers from different people. Finally I was directed to the appliances division where the representative was not very pleased to answer my questions. I was told that I could go ahead and purchase a new cooktop and AHS will reimburse 420 dollars towards the cost which is equivalent to the cost of replacing the part.

I opted for the part replacement at which time she stated it will take 10 to 15 days. I requested to speak to a manager and she told someone will contact me in 48 hours. After many more calls to AHS, my call was forwarded to a supervisors line to leave a message which I did. I got two calls from customer service division stating that they were supervisors and apologized for the delay. I got a call from the escalation unit representative who did the same. I told that I was to talk to a manager, she again stated that someone will call within 24 - 48 hours. On Nov 23, a lady called on my home phone number and left a message apologizing for the delay and like the other three assuring that the part will be ready for delivery and installation on Dec 03, 2015.

I called on Dec 04 and few people gave me different stories. One customer service representative said that AHS has approved replacing the cooktop and I need to again contact the appliances division. This morning (Dec 07, 2015) the representative in appliances division stated, as per the staff in the parts department, "the part was in back order till 12/03/2015 and it was taken off from the back order on Dec 03, 2015. Now it is ready for shipment and it will take 5 to 7 business days to arrive and install." The staff also stated that replacing a new unit including installation with similar specification would cost the company 700.00$. To save less than 200.00 dollars AHS is willing to let the client in the limbo for over a month and running.

It has cost me several hundred dollars purchasing food that is not good nor healthy. To add insult to injury, the lady offered me a reimbursement up to $50.00 towards purchasing a small stove, skillet or griddle. This is NOT REASONABLE SERVICE IN REASONABLE TIME. Meanwhile me and my family continues to wait to hear from a manager or to find a resolution. Their advertisement is a hogwash.

I waited long enough to have enough facts to be able to conclude what a horrible management AHS has and how this one star represent their failed proper delivery of 2 separate repair order I had placed. 1. Water heater broke down, had to be replaced. I learned they only covered $1,500 as the hot water was a dual system to heat. So I authorize them immediately to proceed, and provided payment method to the plumber for the remaining charges of $1,882. I was out of country and I called 2 days later to make sure they had placed the order. Only to learn that they had not proceeded to place the order. I called 5 more times to provide only to provide the same authorization (customer service and checking status, plus the plumber) as each time AHS stated they didn't have records of my authorization. The 2-3 day delivery of the Water Heater ended up 14 days later.

At some point, AHS had dropped the ball and had not placed the order. Only after my 8th time call, they told me they had just placed the order. This is in the East Coast, late October, and my tenants didn't have their water heater for 15 days. They requested for credit for their rent. I was very frustrated to hear from AHS that a delay in parts is not our responsibility. However, this was not a part delay, it was negligence to coordinate and follow up. My out of pocket loss was much higher than what AHS paid. This was simply due to their negligence and mismanagement. By then I had spent $50 on overseas and crediting my tenants after over 10 days delay.

The 2nd repair, according to my tenant, the washer had a gas smell and started making noise when turned on. We placed the order through AHS. First technician from PRO APPLIANCE SERVICES came, didn't see anything wrong, and turned on the machine and left. However, didn't test to see if it is properly functioning. After he left, the tenant tried to use it, but it wouldn't drain. I placed a recall for him to come back. The technician came back and after a week without any notification, we followed up with AHS learning that his diagnosis was a plumbing issue not appliance. This time a plumber came, but he also said there is no issue with plumbing. It is appliance problem. Keep in mind that each time there was a wait to schedule a time for their visit and many calls to follow up. I had called AHS, the Appliance Technician and the plumber to find out why it is so hard to fix this Maytag washer.

I told AHS, their responsibility is to send a technician who knows how to fix a brand. This time they sent another technician (from ATECHDMV) who diagnosing that the pump needing replacement. Then again had to wait for parts. Now we are into the 4th week. The part arrives on Nov 27th. However, on Dec. 1st. when I called AHS and the appliance Tech. neither told me that the part had arrived. In fact, AHS stated that the part is schedule to arrive Dec 2nd (the following day) and the Technician had not returned my call.

The next day (Dec 2), we didn't hear back about the part arrival, my tenant followed up and asked if he can schedule a time frame ahead of time (place holder) in case the part would arrive later that week. Then after several calls and investigation, my tenant learned that the part was indeed delivered on Nov 27th. However, no one let us know. Therefore the installation is still set for next week, delaying this repair for 5 weeks. I called AHS, they have no justification. Each representation has his or her option, and mostly putting the burden on the homeowner. I am again to provide credit towards my tenant rent, due to inconvenience of not having a washer for 5 weeks.

This is a good washer. All the other owners in the building have them. So, it is just the fact that AHS failed to have the right technician to come out from the beginning, plus not following through with the parts. I am still hoping that the technician will be able to fix it with the part. In conclusion, I am very dissatisfied with AHS services. It has been a lot of headaches, and wasted time, plus I have paid tenant to compensate for AHS delays. It has been nothing but hassles to follow up.

They came 10 days later to supposedly fixed the leak and I said that because they didn't. After a week or so, I noticed the wall and the hardwood floor on the back of the shower wall showed water damage. I immediately report to AHS and told them I would preferred to have a different company assigned since the 1st one SWG didn't fix the problem and now I have water damage all over. AHS told me that can't be done because it was a recall so I had to accepted the same company SWG otherwise I had to pay a 2nd service fee of $100, guess what? Same guy came for the 2nd time.

I told him that apparently the leak continued after one hr. He said fixed it was a drain leakage and I asked "why you didn't check for that the first time" and his answer was "because the faucet was leaking and I assumed, it was that the only problem." And I said not, "I told you at that time that there was a slightly water damage on the back wall and you hesitate to look." Anyways, I just got off the phone with AHS and explained to them that as per this company negligence I now have water damage in my house. AHS told me they are not responsible on what the company do or does, even if they break something it is that company responsibility. This is so unacceptable so WHO AM I PAYING? The original service request was 1 Nov. 4 different contractors have been assigned over the course of 30 days and I still do NOT have a working fridge. Every representative I talk with has a different story on why it's taking so long. They don't take the time to review notes, nor do they adequately input notes. The last rep blamed the previous reps for not doing proper note taking. I have made nearly 20 phone calls. I request supervisor when I call and I am told one is not readily available but "an email will be sent for someone to contact you in 24 hours." 24 hours pass and no call or follow-up. Finally, after my 20th call, I am told my case has been sent to the research department and "the research department will call you in 24 hours." 24 hours pass no call. I called the department on 2 & 3 Dec with only a promise my research agent will call me back.

Today, 4 Dec, I am told my research agent has a sore throat and can't talk and she's leaving at noon today and will not be able to get back to me until next week. I ask what is needed to make a decision on allowing a new refrigerator, I am told the last contractor assigned must submit his report. I spoke with the contractor today, 4 Dec and he stated he's been unable to get through to AHS; however, he is recommending replacing the same parts that were replaced by the 2nd contractor. I am going into the 5th week without a refrigerator, with no resolution in sight. I have not had a working refrigerator for over 5 weeks and AHS is passing my case around. The last time AHS came out here was to work on my washer. I submitted the claim but didn’t hear back within 24 hours, so I had to call back. The girl I talked to was rude. This was the first time I was unhappy with AHS. She was not the nicest person and maybe she was having a bad day. So apparently, they had originally sent the claim through Sears when Sears was packed out for two weeks. I couldn't wait that long and was wondering why they would even leave it scheduled with somebody that was two weeks out. So I requested to have them schedule it with somebody else. She scheduled it with a local private business and they were out the next day. The contractors were in and out quick. Came in, looked at the washer, figured out what he needed, went out and got it, came back in and fixed it. Very polite and professional.

Although the homeowner's plan did not cover all, so we had to pay a little extra. But we're still happy that it all went smoothly. I would recommend them.

American Home Shield is awesome and we've had them for years. They come out promptly and their technicians are always professional. If they have to get a part, they let us know where they stand and they make contact with us as soon as it's available and when they will be able to come back out and replace it. That's what happened with our water closet. We've had no problems at all and I've recommended them to a couple of people at work.

On October 26th, I contacted American Home Shield regarding a non-working wash machine. A technician was dispatched from MISS Appliances on October 28th. He diagnosed the problem and said he would order the part and that it would arrive in 3-5 business days. Five business days passed, I call them to schedule the installation of the part. They said the part was not in, but it would be in on Monday, November 9th. Monday comes, no contact from them. I call and e-mail them - no response. I call again on Tuesday, November 10th (13 days since they came to check out the machine) and they say the part is not in and will definitely be in on Thursday, November 12th. Thursday comes and goes, my e-mail and voice mail attempts to contact them go unanswered again.

This continues every few days until I call AHS to find out the problem. They said the part was ordered and it should arrive in their warehouse the following week. The part comes in 3 weeks after the technician came to the house. I make an appointment for the next evening to have it installed. The technician calls me at 7 pm saying he is over an hour away and can't come until the next evening. So, he shows up 1/2 hour late the following evening (November 20th) and installs the part and it doesn't fix the washing machine!!! He says he will let his company, MISS Appliances know it is not fixable and should be replaced.

On Friday, November 20th I logged into my AHS a/c online and it says the job was completed. So I call MISS Appliances and was told that the technician who could not fix the washer told them it was fixed. I submit another request for service on the washing machine online on AHS's website and get an e-mail that a different contractor will give a "second opinion."

So on Monday, November 23rd I call them to schedule a technician to come see the washing machine and the first appointment available isn't until Friday, November 27th! That means I have had no washing machine for a month now. So the technician comes out, figures out there's a problem with a lock sensor and says, "here we go again, the part should arrive in 3-5 business days." Now it is 6 days later, December 3rd and I call to check on the status of the part. The response from Affordable Appliances is that the part isn't in yet and I should talk to AHS directly.

I call AHS, get transferred to three different departments to be told they are "researching" where to get the part. After speaking with three different representatives, I'm told that nobody knows when they will make a decision to replace the washing machine if they cannot find a part to order. I requested to speak with a supervisor and the representative was very rude before transferring me yet again to another department where the on hold wait time estimate was 10-15 more minutes. I've had no washing machine now for 5 weeks - warranties are worthless if they do not respond to needs in a timely manner.

I recently submitted a claim for my heating and AC. Claim submission is no problem. I can do it online or with a representative. I like speaking with a representative myself because sometimes there's more to things than just being able to click a couple boxes on a computer screen. The contractor they sent was called First Response Heating and Air Conditioning, and they did a good job even though the young man looked like he was barely 18.

One thing I don't like about AHS is that I never see the same vendor twice unless I have a problem. If I have a vendor come to my home that I really like, I can never get them again. If they come and didn’t fix the problem within 30 days, then they come back. We should be able to request contractors all the time because there are particulars about every piece of equipment. We've got a pretty complicated system in our house so it makes me feel more comfortable knowing that they're going to be able to send somebody that’s worked on my unit before that understands how my unit works. Then I don’t have to go through the whole process all over again of trying to educate somebody that’s supposed to be a professional anyway.

I do not like American Home Shield’s automated phone system when submitting a claim. I want to talk to a service rep. I had one bad experience with them several years ago when my water heater went out. They called a local plumber to come in and they short-wired it. The little man reconnecting the electrical parts of the hot water heater nearly electrocuted himself. I had filed the appropriate forms with American Home Shield and they took care of the problem.

Then I had an electrical problem with the ceiling fan where the switch was broken. The electric company is top gun when they came out. Thank goodness, they had enough experience to know, or to bring, anything that they thought might be a problem. The technician brought all the repair parts he thought he might need other than having to replace the fan itself. He was really great. I like their response, too. When I call in for a repair, I get a response that they have contacted their repair person or repair service and they'll be contacting me, and I usually hear back within 24 hours. Most of the time, the appointment is made the same day and usually, they're out within two or three days. If it's an emergency, they come right out.
