My recent claim was for the air conditioning. I did it over the phone and it was all automated, which I found easier and fast because I used to have to wait on hold for a very long time. I had to do the appointment with the contractor because I'm in Houston and with the flooding going on, they weren't able to come out. But they're coming tomorrow.

When the hot water tank broke, AHS approved installation for a hot water heater that did not fit in the space and suggested we contract with our own HVAC specialists to raise the foundation so the hot water heater could vent properly. We live in Denver, a large city. Not one HVAC specialist we called would come in behind someone else's job and finish it, we were told. If AHS replaced the broken water heater with one that, the installation could have been completed. Instead, we had to buy the bigger hot water heater on our own (another $500) and hire someone to install it. Time without hot water = 7 days. Unacceptable.
If you have an option, take the cash payout and do not let AHS send a contractor to do the work. The payout option was not offered to us upfront but we were told later by AHS representatives we should have asked for the cash payout. We initiated an appeal and the appeal was denied (no surprise there). Customer service representatives were rude. We spent more money managing this single repair than we did to purchase the warranty.

I trusted American Home Shield to provide me with a reliable vendor to repair my hot water heater. I've been waiting since SUNDAY for someone to address the situation. We have had ongoing issues with our hot water heater since October and American Home Shield refuses to replace the unit. I've been given the runaround by 3 different departments (customer service, authorization, and customer retention). I have a vendor that refuses to return my messages. Finally after three days of nothing I had to give up and seek my own vendor to replace the unit at full cost.
60 hours without hot water is not a reasonable way to handle an emergency situation especially when a child is involved. I made myself fully available for the vendor, took time off work, and did everything I needed to do to ensure prompt service and was only met with road blocks, vague time lines, and a complete lack of customer service. Had I called any other vendor I would've had the issue repaired on Monday morning. Do yourself a favor and cut out the middle man and save yourself the premium and deductible which will only get you a cold shower.

American Home Shield has been good. It's easy submitting a claim and the quality of the service has been great overall. Except one time I was a little dissatisfied because AHS charged me because of the warranty itself. My concern was that the repair guy was already out here and could have fixed both of the issues I had at the same time but then AHS tells me that the contractor's specialty might not be whatever was needed at that time. Also the people that do the repairs have to come out two or three more times and I got to call AHS two, three more times before I can get a new product when they know in actuality if the product is or isn't fixable.

I had a little bit of experience with American Home Shield last year and everything went smoothly. I needed the dishwater so I submitted a claim. The contractor came, put the thing in, did his job and left. I’m perfectly satisfied with their services so I renewed my warranty. I have told a few friends about AHS.

My parents just purchased a home and as part of the settlement the sellers provided them assurances that the house and its contents were in good operating condition by purchasing a home warranty from AHS. Problem was that the policy and documentation was not provided at settlement so my parents had no idea how to submit a claim or call for service. It was only after my parents reached out to AHS that they were provided with the policy at least a month after settlement and after they had to make electrical fixes to the house to avoid a hazardous condition.
When they attempted to call and have the work covered after realizing they did not follow the correct procedure they were given a complete run around. No supervisors to speak with and no calls back from supervisors. Instead of being able to speak with someone they were told they need to submit a mail. I am assisting them in stating their case in a letter but my suspicion is that the company makes you jump through hoops and will ultimately ignore any letter provided the same as they have done for the phone calls.

My most recent claim with AHS was for the water heater. I submitted it over the phone, and the people who came out to look and fix the heater were very good. They actually had to replace the heater and were quick about it. The contractor was really pleasant. They had to come back because they didn’t have a certain tool, but once they were back, they were finished very promptly – faster than I thought. We’ve had no problems with the heater since. We’ve also called on one other issue, our garage, and so far the service has been excellent.

This complaint is being filed against American Home Shield of Virginia, Inc. (“AHS”) regarding a breach of contract related to a home warranty policy. I purchased a home warranty contract known as the “3x3 Combo” plan which became effective on March 23, 2016. Under the 3x3 Combo plan, both residential home systems and appliances are included as covered under the policy as of the effective date. The appliances covered include garbage disposals under the policy. Under Section A.2 of my policy, it states the following:
Insufficient maintenance, rust, corrosion, or sediment; Improper installations, repairs, or modifications; Mismatched systems where the indoor and outdoor units were not property matched to each other in capacity or efficiency for proper operation; and Undetectable pre-existing conditions which are defects or mechanical failures that could not have been detected by visual inspection AND / OR simple mechanical test.
"A visual inspection of the covered items verifies that it appears structurally intact and without damage or missing parts that would indicate inoperability. A simple mechanical test is defined as turning the item on and off to ensure that it is operational. While turned on, the item should operate without causing damage, irregular sounds, smoke, or other abnormal outcomes.”
I moved into the residence covered by the AHS 3x3 Combo plan on March 24, 2016 after having visually inspected all systems in the home prior to closing on March 21, 2016. Prior to obtaining the AHS warranty policy, I confirmed with AHS that no special inspection would be required by AHS and that all systems covered under the 3x3 Combo plan would be covered under the policy as of the effective date of the policy.
Between March 24, 2016 and April 17, 2016, the systems and appliances in my home worked flawlessly; however, on April 17, 2016, I noticed a small leak coming from the bottom of my kitchen, under-sink garbage disposal. This was the first time a leak had occurred, and so I proceeded to file a claim under my AHS policy. On the morning of April 18, 2016, AHS sent a firm called Total Plumbing, Inc. to my home to repair the garbage disposal. The technician for Total Plumbing Inc. opened the doors to the kitchen sink, and without even turning on the water or the garbage disposal, said, “This is not covered. This is not going to work out for you and I have to call your insurance company.”
Without even establishing that there was a leak or where the leak was coming from, the technician said there was a crack in the garbage disposal that, “must have been there before we moved in.” Per Section A.2(d) of my policy, the garbage disposal worked through a simple mechanical test when it was turned off and on with no leaks. Further, Section A.2 of my policy notes coverage of normal wear and tear “following situations prior to and during the contract term.”
The very nature of a garbage disposal is that it vibrates significantly in shredding food debris put down a kitchen sink. AHS is denying the claim on the opinion of a technician who looked at it for 30 seconds without even turning on the water or the garbage disposal and said it must have happened before we moved into the home. AHS has no grounds to make a definitive claim as to when a crack would have occurred in the unit given the mechanical nature of a garbage disposal, and even if there was a pre-existing crack in the disposal, the fact that the unit operated without leaking based on a simple mechanical test per section A.2(d) of the contract provides that the disposal would be covered due to a malfunction that occurred only after the policy covering the appliance became effective.

My rental property suffered a little bit of roof damage resulting in a leak, and an interior ceiling and wall water damage. Submitting the claim at American Home Shield was remarkably easy. I got very helpful people to get that part going. The only problem I had was the adjuster who came out did not notify me he was going to be at the site. I contacted my tenant, and apparently, the adjuster was in and out in less than 15 minutes. I don't know how much of the roof he actually saw but he didn't go up there or do anything else. My tenant and I did the interior repairs because the allotted money for the claim did not cover what the roofer needed. So the roofer repaired that section of the roof and basically used all of the money I got from American Home Shield, plus several hundred of my own.
I also provided the Sheetrock, the labor. My tenant, who enjoys painting, was kind enough to paint the interior, and it came out looking great. But cost effectiveness was not quite as good as I would've liked. I don't want to make a profit on a little quirk of nature but the estimate was way lower than the actual expenses turned out to be. But overall, I've used American Home Shield for ten years, and I've highly recommended them to people.

We had a furnace that failed and AHS handled our claim for that in a timely manner. I made the phone call using their 800 number and reported it. Shortly thereafter, I got a phone call from the vendor who came out and inspected it and found that it wasn’t repairable. They did their job of reporting it to American Home Shield. AHS called us to inform that they would be replacing the furnace and has ordered the replacement. In about a week’s time, the vendor came and installed it. I was very pleased with the initial contractor who came and inspected the existing furnace. He spent time explaining what was wrong with it. And then the people who came that actually installed the new furnace were different people, but did a fine job. They didn’t leave a mess. I’d have them come back.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very good. The contractors that I prefer have been perfect and everything has been top-notch when it comes to the repairs which they did. However, I need a choice of who to pick to do my work. When I call, I don’t get a real live breathing person. They always assign Advanced Appliance and I have to call back and cancel it. I will never use Advanced Appliance again in my whole entire life. It would be awesome if American Home Shield would let me talk to a live person and say "Okay, these are the three people you can choose from, who do you want?" But they don’t. That is a problem, but I've learned to live with it. It would be perfect if they could change that though.

I had no problems with the contractor from AHS who came a year ago. The cost of fixing it was not worth repairing it. AHS gave me the option of fixing it, an adjustment or buying a new one. They weren't involved in installing the replacement. I took care of that. Some of the repairs AHS did for me were very good. One, in particular, took quite a while to get parts and get the repairman back out here. Nevertheless, it has been a fairly good experience with AHS.

We've had claims with American Home Shield and they've been fine in the past, but there was one incident that was tough on my family. I had two recent concerns about my AC upstairs. On the first one, the compressor went out. When they went to get the part they said it wasn't what they had so we had to wait for a minimum of two and a half months. They also told me the other option was to buy a new AC unit. I didn't have three grand to drop on it so we just had to wait and had my kids sleep downstairs a lot on cots. When the part came I thought they would be able to compensate for that time we were out of AC, but they said they can't because they're just a warranty company. But the last one they handled very well. I like Gino, the guy that came out. He assessed the problem and was able to fix it right away. It worked out well and the unit has been fine since both repairs.

But everybody was calling because everybody was having heater problems. Submitting a claim to them was easy. The four times I've used them, they've been fantastic. It wasn’t that long ago that we had a claim with American Home Shield. It was the air conditioner. It’s not a problem to file a claim. That’s always easy to do. I did it online. The tech that came was a young man who was very nice. We liked him. He was professional and neat. That’s not always the case with people that AHS sends out, though. We've had some that we don’t want back in the house. The work done is usually great. The only problem is that AHS doesn't always want to replace items with the exact ones, but we always work something out. When we had our water heater replaced, we really wanted a Rheem or whatever it was that we had before. We could have gotten it by paying the difference. We got a generic water heater instead.

American Home Shield send in an agent. Charged the usual $100 fee to diagnose the problem and gave an estimate of 10 days for repair. At the end of 12 days since no response was noted, called the contractor assigned who told me that they are waiting for parts to be delivered by American Home Shield. Called American Home Shield again and I am told that they received no information from contractor to order parts! Called the contractor back who states that the order was send!!! It looks like I am getting no response and no one is taking responsibility. Plan to discontinue the contract if it is not repaired in the next 10 days as promised AGAIN!!
"Resolution update 5/7/2016:" I wrote a negative review of the service by Home Shield a few weeks ago because of the delay. I am happy to say that the service was completed to my satisfaction even though it took 4 weeks to complete. I think that if the response to critical appliances repair is faster and if the customer is kept abreast of the process rather than having to call frequently, it would be welcome and make a happy customer.

My dishwasher broke and it turns out it was some sort of thermal fuse. It was very easy filing the claim with American Home Shield. I can do it by phone or online. Most of the time I call them. I’m in my 60s. I like to talk to people and not machines. Afterwards, American Home Shield contacts me immediately. They’re great about that. This time, they got Sears to come out. They assessed and fixed the dishwasher. However, within 10 days of the part being replaced, the same part goes out again. I had to wait seven or eight days in between the breakage for AHS to get someone to come out. My wife was not very happy at all about this.
For the second visit, American Home Shield authorized Sears to only put the same part on again. A couple of days later the dishwasher didn't work. The Sears technician came out and told me he thought it could be fixed with other parts and he said it’s going to take 10 days to two weeks to get the parts in and reschedule an appointment. I didn’t want to wait and I told him to scrap it. I didn’t understand the American Home Shield policies. When they called to make me an offer, they would only offer me the price of the parts as the buyout. I didn’t know what "parts buyout program" means, but now I do and I will never do that again.
I told American Home Shield that I get this is my fault because I wasn’t listening carefully enough. I told them, “Just cancel that. Go ahead and you tell Sears to order the parts and you come out and fix it again.” Only when the technician says it’s no longer serviceable will AHS allow me to replace it. I have had a lot of learning experiences but right now I’m going on about two weeks without a dishwasher. I’m still waiting on the parts to arrive, which should be FedExed to my house. Once they get to my house, they estimated they should be here by the 20th.
The other irritating part is I know the dishwasher’s going to break again because they actually said they thought it was going to. In my mind American Home Shield will have paid because I only had to pay the first deductible because it’s a repeat service all the time for the same thing. This is costing American Home Shield as much money if they were to take and do a buyout on the dishwasher and then let me go get a new one. But besides that, everything else I’ve ever asked AHS to do has been fantastic. They’re a good insurance company. It's been excellent with them but I need to pay more attention in the future.

Several appliances went out at about the same time. AHS sent a qualified technician over who was very professional, was able to show me what had happened and how to troubleshoot in the future. He did an excellent job in repairing the refrigerator and dishwasher. The washing machine was deemed un-repairable so they gave me a fair credit on what the value was worth so I could replace it. The AHS reps were helpful. They tried to charge me a $75 call four times because there were four different items that went out almost all at once but when I complained about that, they fixed it and put it all under one call which I was very appreciative of. My policy is up for renewal and we do plan on renewing. My only issue with it is that the renewal price is substantially higher than it needs to be given the age of the home and the appliances, but overall, AHS has been very good.

We have two Viking Appliances covered under an AHS Warranty. They broke last August (2015) and they are still not repaired as of April 2016. AHS has sent contractors out ~10 times with no success. They keep trying to fix them due to the replacement cost. After 8 months of working with AHS, today I was told they are still reviewing what to do the two appliances. I have ~ 20 calls into AHS on this issue with no solutions. Same story every time, "we will talk to the contractor" or "we will get back with you in a few days". Horrible experience. The company uses a delay, deny, delay tactic and will do anything it can to get out of paying a claim.
Updated on 4/20/2016: I posted the follow review last Friday and the company disputes the claim. The company has reached out, but neither issue has been resolved. The appliances that have been broken since last August are not repaired. The company is unable to repair the dishwasher and is making us once again reach out to find another contractor of which will be the 3rd time we have had to look for a contractor on our own because no contractors in the area will work with the company and we have to personally guarantee payment to the contractor. The last contractor to attempted to fix our Viking dishwasher no fewer than 7 times with no success.
Since the company is switching gin contractors again, we will once again need to pay an initial service fee for another new contractor out of pocket. Our Viking Microwave is also still un-repaired after 8 months. The company has offered to replace it, but at half of the $1,500 it originally cost to purchase the original item. I have disputed this with the company and am awaiting a response. 8 months is too long to wait on both items. I am not sure how anyone could am wait this long for something like a heater, AC, water heater, etc.

American Home Shield sent out an HVAC Outfit to check my AC system, which is a covered system in my plan. The technician found the system to be near empty and said it would need to be charged to check for a leak. They wanted $1020.00 for the freon gas (12 lbs). YES, that's ONE THOUSAND TWENTY, for just the gas, which American Home Shield would pay only $120.00 of this fee. That's $85.00 per pound, a total rip off. I'm involved with the industry, myself, and offered my own freon; the same r22 they were going to use. They said they couldn't use mine!!!
American Home Shield wouldn't help me. This is also after I paid 125.00 for the field visit. I've canceled my plan. The compressor is no good, which I told them, and the new system needed, doesn't even use the r22 gas. The field tech also told me I needed a new evaporator coil because mine was no good and MISSING PIECES. I took it apart and had it tested. There's nothing wrong with it.
Hello Sal, I am sorry to hear about this service experience. I can understand how frustrating that is and I appreciate you taking the time to give us that feedback! I called AHS and put a claim for my dishwasher. Their reps have been fantastic. They wrote everything down and contacted the company which got back with me within a couple of days. The two young technicians who came out were extremely knowledgeable in what they were doing. They pulled out the old appliance and put a new one in. They replaced some old tubing and did more improvements. I liked that they simply didn’t throw something in and use old stuff after they knew that was going to break apart.
I also purchased an extra electrical cord because my dishwasher was 17 years old and they weren’t sure what kind of hookups I was going to have. Then I was told that I didn't need it so Home Depot should reimburse me for the extra cord that I had purchased. They couldn't have said anything about that and charged me, but they didn't and that was good. They were also very nice since they cleaned up after themselves. Does not matter the cost of the repairs may be $50 less than getting a new appliance they are always going to repair it. The current complaint is our AC, while it works fine, every year we pay to have someone come out to service the unit, and every year they find something wrong with it. The unit is about 28 years old and just won't give up. So they will piece it together to keep it going rather than put a more efficient unit on the house. It pains me that with the cost I have paid AHS I could have paid for a new unit by now. But as soon as I cancel or do not renew that AC will then die.

We only had to use American Home Shield once last year and the experience was very well for us. I had an issue with an air conditioning unit at a home that I lease. I called them about it and they sent out one of their representatives that they have for taking care of the claims. They fixed the issue and all was taken care of in due course. American Home Shield is very beneficial to myself and to the tenant.

I have multiple properties that AHS covers for me and as far as I'm concerned, I haven't had a problem with them. The process for submitting claims was fine. They got a lot of call volume, so I was on hold for a while. But other than that, once I get somebody on the line, they do get something done. Their rep was very nice, courteous, and knowledgeable. The contractor who came out recently haven't come back yet to complete the problem but they told me one time that they’ll call me back and tell me they're going to try to get out today, maybe tomorrow to do the work. But they haven't done anything yet.

I had another home warranty company before and didn't like them because I put in a couple of claims that they disapproved, saying the units that were failing were too old, so they wouldn't replace them. So I contacted a couple of people that I know and they gave me a couple of references to people who have AHS. I contacted these people and they said they're more than happy with AHS. They had no turn-downs and AHS never said anything about the appliances being too old. That's why I went with AHS. I would recommend them.

Both contractors that were sent to our home were professional and did a good job. Since the repair, they've been working great and I would recommend them.

About a year ago, my air conditioning died so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. After six or seven service calls and three weeks without me having air conditioning, they replaced it. They didn’t want to pay for it initially and as a consumer, I had to be persistent. They messed around so much and eventually, it ended up costing them more money than it should have. Nevertheless, having American Home Shield gives me peace of mind.

Back in Jan. 2016, I contacted American Home Shield because we had water pouring down in my son's closet from our upstairs bathroom. The representative was pleasant and advised - they would send someone out ASAP! Three days later a plumber from Discount Contractors came to our home. He cut a huge hole in the ceiling, climbed up into the ceiling and said "You have a pipe missing from your tub" (how is that even possible?). The plumber called AHS and they denied our claim but wanted their $125 deductible. The plumber then goes to his car to call Discount Contractors and get some tools and then tells us in order to repair the leak it would cost $550+. We call AHS back and they said there is nothing they can do for us. So we pay the man, then he says he can't fix the big hole in our ceiling, AHS will do that!!! Then 2-3 weeks later after calling 3 times, AHS sends a guy to patch and I do mean patch the ceiling.
Now on April 9, 2016, our son comes yelling that his closet is raining water again. Upon inspection we notice the water is coming from the same spot that was supposed to be fixed. Now the fun begins. I called AHS and was told there was nothing they could do, we have to deal with Discount Contractors. DC said we had to deal with AHS! After calling several times I finally spoke with Carmen a rep from AHS, who apologized for the way we've been treated and is sending a new contractor to our home ASAP at NO CHARGE (received an email confirmation with $0 cost)! Great. Tuesday morning a gentleman from Plumbright Plumbing INC comes to our home, cuts another hole in our ceiling and informs us that the problem was never fixed (you think). After fixing the problem, he calls AHS who tells him that our claim is denied and we must pay Plumbright's fee of $125.00!
After calling and speaking with 7 AHS reps and leaving a voice message for a supervisor (who never called back) each rep stated that I was never told there would be no cost (but I have the email) and I need to refer to my contract agreement. We are now out over $600.00 and another big-ass hole in the ceiling! Dealing with both American Home Shield and Discount Contractors has been a nightmare and I will NEVER use either company again and strongly advise others to beware!!! RIP-Offs.

This is the third home we’ve had American Home Shield, and we’ve been satisfied. We call in to submit a claim and they say that they would send it to a service representative. And they'd call in and would fix within three to five days. Sometimes they need parts so it takes a little longer, but overall it’s been satisfactory. Our most recent claim was for the air conditioning and they sent people out to fix it. Their reps are professional and some of the contractors had been professional but one or two haven’t, so we'd request another one and AHS would do our request. I submitted a claim to AHS for my water heater and it was a bit challenging. I tried to call and the lines were busy for a couple of hours. I couldn't get through so I went to their online process, then the online wasn't very easy to navigate. I ended up calling again and I finally got through to them via phone. Our water heater kept breaking down and I kept insisting to American Home Shield, that the water heater needs a replacement because it's over 10 years old. When I got a hold of someone in the department, the person who answered the phone said that I need to move it up to a supervisor. And when I talked to a supervisor, I explained I have four children, had no hot water for two weeks and needed to get somebody out immediately. The subcontractor at that time had told me it was going to be another week so I told AHS to do something to expedite the process but they would not. They said it's up to the subcontractor.
When I called the subcontractor, the buck got passed back and forth. At one point in there, I called out a private handyman to come out and look at it, who confirms to me that it does need a replacement. So that was out of my own pocket to call that party out and then I ended up calling one of the owners of Sundance, one of the companies that came out to me. I explained to them the problem and what American Home Shield was doing.
He totally understood and told me he'll make it happen. And he ended up calling this person that was off that day, to come over and try one more thing. They put in another part that was working, but the heater still failed. So they said, "We're going to get you a new one right now." Sundance did make it happen and got me a water heater that day and not made me wait another week. I've used AHS in the past for other things and things went well. This is my first poor experience with them. They’ll get the job to happen but they won’t push for anything to be expedited.

Until now, I have been a very satisfied American Home Shield customer. However, now I am disappointed and livid. On 3.12.16 I called to report that my heat pump was not working. The service person couldn't fix it. AHS sent a contractor for a second opinion. I told them that the contractor they named was located 5 hours from my home, but they explained that he had a local office. From 3.15 until 4.8, on the many occasions when I called for a status update, AHS told me that the contractor needed to call them, and the contractor's receptionist told me that AHS needed to call him. Each party promised to call back but never did. Eventually, AHS said parts were on order. The contractor said AHS had not contacted him. On April 5th, finally the contractor's receptionist told us he was in town, and he did call back -- to be quite rude, and say that he was only supposed to do a second opinion, not the repair.
I called AHS and was told that he had indeed refused the work. No alternative solution was offered; I had to ask, "Then, how will it get done?" I was told contractor relations was looking for a replacement, and I would get a callback that day. I received no callback. Today I called AHS again and asked to escalate my call. Until this point, I have to say that everyone I spoke to was pleasant and acknowledged that a month without heat would be difficult. Today, one day short of a MONTH since I called for service, Tamika, a supervisor, told me that I just have to wait until contractor relations finds a new technician, and that no one can give me any kind of time frame, that no one from contractor relations will call me, that I just have to wait. I was also told that the contractor reported that no one lives in my home, a falsehood.
AMERICAN HOME SHIELD is not honoring its contract with me, and is essentially just saying, "Too bad, you cannot do anything about it and we will take our own sweet time." I am sorry that they are having issues with their contractors, but that should be their problem, not mine. The contractors represent AHS. A reputable business would find a way to supply service, not tell the customer, "You paid for this, and we promised in our contract to provide a service, but too bad, you just have to wait for some period of time." And, per Tamika, there is no way for them to offer even an estimate of how long that time period might be. No service, and no apologies, just a "Take the nothing we can provide or leave it" attitude. Fortunately, I live in the south -- it is 55 degrees inside my home, not 35 degrees. It is chilly, but pipes are not freezing.

The last technician they sent out knew exactly what it was, how to fix it, and took care of it so we were very pleased. The contractors sent were all very polite and professional. They cleaned well and it was impressive that they cleaned as they were coming in. They would put things like mittens over their shoes to not make a mark. The claims representatives over the phone were very courteous and helpful. We're very happy and satisfied. I usually submit a claim over the phone because every time I go online and put my cellphone number in there, it's always confusing as I have two homes. So I find it better to call and talk to a human being. My most recent claim was about my air conditioner. So far, the contractors they've sent have all been terrific. I haven't had a problem with any of them. Usually, if it's not fixed, they figure out what part they need and they're usually back within a day or two. However, I had a bit of a problem with them last summer when it took us a month and a half to get my pool heater all corrected which eventually got replaced. Other than that, it was effortless.

I recently had no heat on my heater and put in a claim with American Home Shield. I picked up the phone, talked to a lady, then she sent their guy out, and the heater's fixed. Very simple and easy. The first contractor that they sent was not a nice person. He left all his garbage all over the floor. And, after two days, the heater blew up again. The guy put whatever he had to put in. He crossed the wires so it burned up. So again, I was with no heat. I called AHS back and relayed the whole thing. They sent out Value Heating Service, and I highly recommend them to anybody that needs heater service. They were so sweet and nice.
The second heater guy said that unfortunately, American Home Shield still uses the previous contractor because he had gone behind them from five to six times to repair what they had screwed up. So AHS needs to sometimes think about who they send or examine their vendors better. Other than that, everything's working now and we have heat. We've had AHS for 10 years now and I don't want to switch. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And when it is broke, they fix it.

But there was a $310 offset that the company put in there which eliminated any refund that I might have gotten, and I don't understand what that $310 charge was for. I made request for the repair of a gas and a water leak in my basement. AHS referred a plumbing contractor that made the assessment and called AHS to confirm coverage. Because the water leak was reported as 'sprinkler line' (even though the water leak in question was inside my basement, within the concrete walls and not outside the house and not in any of the lines under the lawn or in any of the sprinklers in the yard) it was denied.
I called AHS, spoke to 4 different AHS reps and was given different arguments for denial: 1. "Limitations include the fire sprinkler system - ???" 2. "Must be installed within the confines of the structural walls..." which I explained over and over but could not make clear enough the leak was INSIDE the walls of my basement. 3. "Your contract does not cover any sprinkler outside your home." - Again, could not communicate that the leak was in a copper pipe inside my basement, and the best: 4. "Your contract does not cover solar items, systems, and components - ???"
I requested the refund for my out-of-pocket expense when asked the plumber to make the repairs but was, I would not be refunded because of lack of covered items. I called one last time to cancel the remainder of my contract but the "customer retention office" is closed at 6 pm CST. I will call again tomorrow to cancel and will talk to all my friends to be wary of AHS; I will also make a point with anyone buying a new house or thinking about getting a home warranty to not contract with AHS.

About two weeks ago, AHS came out to work with my microwave. They had to put a new part in about a month before, but apparently, two wires were stuck and went out. So they fixed it, and it was good for about two weeks, and it went out again. They're supposed to be coming out again on Friday to see what's up with it. My microwave is about 12 years old and may be on its last legs. Most of the time when they fix it, it's fine. But if you're dealing with an old appliance, you put in a part and another part will go out. So I don’t assume it’s their fault.
I call in for service and then AHS sends a technician out. They used Sears for most of the repairs that I've had. The technicians come out and they'll either fix the appliance or if it's too old and they can't fix it, they'll replace it. The process isn't too difficult. Two years ago, they were slow coming out, but the last year, they come out within five or six days after you call in to say that something's broken. Sometimes they have to order parts and that will take another week, so you could be without what you were dealing with for two weeks. You pay the $75 fee for the technician and that's all you pay until they get your problem fixed. The contractors that were sent were very nice guys and usually the same one comes. He's a nice fellow.
AHS has improved. When I got my dishwasher replaced, instead of them having to send people out to install it, they shipped the appliance and I got my own repairman because I live out in the country. So that's much better. They then sent me the money for the repairman. It's been good, overall. If technicians can come the next day, it would be better, but you don't expect that when you live where I live.

Every time I call AHS they give me the runaround blaming it on the appliance repair company. Multiple excuses - repair company didn't order the parts correctly, repair company cancelled the work order, AHS needed to get a second opinion (repair company refused to work with AHS), parts are on order, parts are backordered, repair company needs to reschedule, etc. I've heard them all but they're just trying to avoid having to replace a $2500 stove.
What's more, I sit on hold for 20-30 minutes each time to get same BS. Just looked at my cell phone bill for last 4 months - 32 phone calls to AHS and repair company, 1,008 minutes on the phone - majority time on hold. Let me start by saying this is probably the single worst experience I've had when it comes to customer service. There is no accountability to what this companies reps say and absolutely no follow through. This all started back in Sept 2015, I contacted AHS because my refrigerators ice maker wasn't making ice. A simple request I thought but has turned into a nightmare. This first scheduled appointment Sears came out and attempted to fix the issue, they determine they need new parts to fix the issue so ordered the parts and then schedule a new appointment to install the parts.
The second appointment they came, installed the parts and told me that they could stick around and wait for the ice maker to make ice but that should have fixed the issue and if it doesn't to call AHS again and let them know. Well the replacement parts didn't fix the issue so I contacted AHS again and they had Sears come out again to check on the issue. The Sears repairman said that the only thing left to do was a hard reset and if that didn't fix the issue I would need to talk AHS about replacement. The repairman can't stick around for 4-5 hours waiting for ice to be made so he left me with those instructions. This is where it gets frustrating... As the ice maker never works after the Sears repairman leaves.
So two days later I call AHS to inform them of the situation and what the Sears repairman said. The AHS rep reviews the account and says that according to them the repairs were complete so she need to reach out to Sears to see what was going on. She attempted to reach Sears with me on the phone but wasn't able to so she said she left them a message and they would get back to her within 24-48 hrs. 3 or 4 days later I still had not heard anything from AHS so I called in and the rep said they still have not heard from Sears but she would try to reach them again and should receive a response within 24-48 hrs. I called back 3 or 4 times over 5-6 weeks receiving the same exact runaround.
Finally I get fed up and talk with a rep about my frustration. She says that she will try one more time to reach Sears and if she doesn't hear back in 24 hrs that we can then talk about replacement of my fridge/ice maker. Well life happens and I'm unable to follow up promptly like I would like, mostly due to long hold times. AHS never calls me back and so 3 months pass before I finally make time to call again. When I speak to the next rep she says that there is no way we can talk replacement at this time and that she must assign the case to her research dept and they will be reaching out within 24-48 hrs to discuss the case and replacement.
At this point since AHS has never called me back when they have promised. I'm very uncomfortable with this step but reluctantly agree once she tells me I can call back and get the research dept members direct phone number if I don't hear from them in 24 hrs. Well a week goes by and crickets so I call in today. The rep I spoke to said that now that's been over 60 days since the first request, we will need to schedule another service request and pay our $100 service fee again. I just about lost it but calmly informed her what her previous colleagues had told me. She look in the account and said that my case was never referred to the research dept and that there is nobody for me to contact at the research dept. She then told me the only way to proceed is to have another service call and fee.
I was livid at this point and let her know there is no way I'm paying another fee because the only reason this has been dragged out this long was due to AHS and Sears lack of communication. This rep then puts me on hold for 5 mins, comes back and tells me that she will waive the fee. Still not satisfied because this has taken so much of my time and energy and I've been promised multiple times that we would talk about replacement of my fridge/ice maker I demand to talk with a manager because having another service request cut into my day is absurd at this point. The rep tells me she can request a manager call me back but we all know how call backs go so I refused knowing this was just a tactic to get me off the phone.
The rep repeats that no manager is available and continues to try and get me off the phone. I made clear that I need to speak with someone now because I have no confidence that anyone would call me back. She finally puts me on hold and gets a manager on the phone. The manager picks up and I recap the entire story, again. The manager then proceeds to inform me that not only was her prior service rep correct in we need to have another service call but that she is no longer waiving the service charge and will be billing me the $100 fee. Within 5 mins that changed. I confront the manager about the previous reps that said we would talk replacement, she ignores that and just repeats that we need to have another service call and fee because we are 60 days past the original service date request.
So not only is she not honoring what I was told from other reps, she is disregarding the fact that I called in multiple times before the 60-day window was up, and disregarding that I was told not 5 mins earlier that if I did have another service call that the fee would be waived. After arguing for probably 20 mins I get her to agree to waive the fee and have another service call setup... We'll see if that does anything but at this point I'm just chalking the $100 up to a loss and will NEVER do business with AHS again. They are clear trained very well in stall and avoid tactics to avoid living up to the commitments in their contract and just hope you go away... Buyer beware!

American Home Shield (AHS) has horrid customer service. I was up to date on all payments for a home warranty and I called them for a plumbing issue for my home in the Los Angeles area. The first plumber they sent took three days to call to set up the appointment. They showed up and found a bad Whirlpool motor. They said they would take it and return with a repaired motor in 2 to 5 days.
After a week and a half I called and they said they could not fix the motor and would order a new one. After another week and a half I called again and they said it just arrived. They installed it while I was away from the house. I did not check the work and after a time I found that they had installed the same, broken motor. I called AHS and they said the motor was under warranty but I would have to pay again for a service call. This time the next plumber (I did not want the first guy back) did not show up and called after the fact to say the truck broke down.
I called AHS and requested a new plumber. They said one would call me within 1 business day. I waited two and a half days and did not receive a call. I spent almost 2 hours over the next two days on the phone (mostly on hold) with AHS to request a refund since they could not honor their contract. They said that they were due a 30 day office fee for any cancellation and since I was on a month-to-month contract I would not get a refund. This is one example of my typical experience with AHS. You are better off finding a tradesman on your own based on local Yelp reviews. It is cheaper and more reliable.

We’re really happy with our most recent claim with American Home Shield. I had a couple of them going and one was for the dryer. It all worked out great. Submitting the claim was an easy process and I did it by phone. It was very good with their rep and we were happy with their contractor. The dryer's working wonderfully. It was a very satisfactory experience. We checked out our contract on this house and we're very pleased. We'll be renewing it at the beginning of next month.

American Home Shield is great and I love it. I just go online to request for repair or whatever I needed, then they send the person out here, and I pay the $75. That's all I do. Recently, I filed a claim for the repair of the garage door opener but my husband wasn't happy with what the tech said about what's wrong with it. So they sent a second person out, who diagnosed it right and fixed it. Other than that first guy who gave the wrong diagnosis, every other contractor who came out here has been great.

I have been a consumer of AHS for a while. When I called in because my spa pump went out tech came to the home (I paid the service fee). He then informed me I wasn't covered. So I called AHS back and asked, "Am I covered for my spa yes or no?" Attendant said, "Yes. I will send Tech out again" (within 30 days). Again Tech said I wasn't covered. I called AHS back and asked again... "Is my spa covered??" (Again I was told yes.) I pay extra for spa coverage. Frustrated by now I called out a local company to diagnose the problem and was told the pump burned out... I thanked him and called AHS. Again... Today I learned that AHS considered my spa a Jacuzzi And it's not covered, and they insist I pay for the second call out of the spa Tech... No. I do not feel I am required to pay since each time I called AHS to ask if I was covered and each time I was told yes. AHS will lose this customer due to misinformed sales personnel.

Terrible vendors, terrible office support (on hold 1 hr 45 min) to speak to supervisor. Vendors they use are unreliable. We have had 8 visits in 4 months on same appliance. They show up hours after scheduled appointment time, they assess problem, say they have to order part which is usually 10 days later, then they call with part and then tell you they can't make it for a few more days to install part. After that, you now set up another appointment to repair and they still show up anytime they feel. After numerous repairs our dryer still breaks down every two weeks!! They will not honor warranty and replace the dryer. We have had AHS for 4 years and have never needed anything and now that we do, a need a new dryer, they won't replace! If you are approached by AHS, RUN as soon as you can. I like to state facts, so I will keep this one simple. FACT 1: Dishwasher leaking and request placed online 3/21/2016. FACT 2: Technician from GE arrives, turns on nozzle. States nothing was wrong with the dishwasher. FACT 3: Ran the dishwasher on 3/27/2016. Leak turns into a flood. FACT 4: Placed another request over the phone 3/27/2016. I was told that a technician would not arrive until the follow week. FACT 5: On 3/28/2016 kitchen is completely flooded. Service request ticket now placed in escalation status by AHS. FACT 6: Technician #2 from different vendor arrives 3/29/2016. Says cost to repair too high, and the dishwasher should be replaced. FACT 7: Technician #2 turn nozzle on to dishwasher, cabinet and kitchen flooded again. FACT 8: Called American Home Shield 3/31/2016. They have not received any information from the technician.
FACT 9: On 4/1/2016 given another number from AHS to call to order a new dishwasher. Was told while I was at work that MUST be home to provide them with the dimensions of the old dishwasher before they could order the new dishwasher. They stated that they could not use the dimension provided by the GE technician or the second vendor they sent out. FACT 10: Measured dishwasher, and was told my dimensions were incorrect. My dimensions were sent to another department and someone would call me back at a late time. FACT 11: Received a 4/4/2016 from a GE technician #2 that said he fixed my dishwasher. LOL!!! FACT 12: Received a call from technician #2 on 4/4/2016 stating that they had a replacement but could not give me a date or time for the install. FACT 13: After several emails, several phone calls, and several days missed of work my dishwasher was finally installed on 4/5/2016.
These are the steps AHS uses to repair your appliances. If you choose this company BEWARE!!! You will lose time from work, forced to make multiple phone calls, and send many emails before your issue is resolved. I have cancelled my contract after one month of using this company, and switched to another company. Like the saying goes Cheaper is not always better.

After many, many phone calls to American Home Shield I finally got service. The tech spent less than 15 minutes making the repair. I was beyond irate. Claim 2. Kitchen faucet repair. Tech was out the next day and couldn't have been any nicer. Claim 3. Called in a water leak. It's been 18 hours with no running water and I am still waiting to get an appointment. I called American home shield and they say "the tech tried to reach you 4 times and was unable to leave a message". BS. Beware however... when it comes to your AC and heating, they will not even consider repairs unless "up to code" which most are not. IMO, they do NOT want to pay for AC repairs! I paid thousands of dollars to them in my years with them, mostly because of wanting my AC warranted. I got out, and am now looking for a new provider.

I had a claim on the air conditioning last summer with American Home Shield. I received one call from the rep and she explained what they would pay, and that was fine. The contractor that came finally found the problem and fixed it after about three years of coming out here every year having to put refrigerant in it. Their contractor said I should think about replacing it, but I’m not just going to go with them. I’m going to get estimates from three or four other people in the area. Moreover, it was 90 degrees in Oregon last week and we had to turn it on then. Now, it’s working fine because we turn it on at night to keep the house really cool. And when we leave, we turn it on to make sure it stays cool in here because it’s a mobile home and it can get hotter.

I had a plumbing issue and submitted a claim to AHS. They were quick to get someone out here. Once I showed the contractor the tub, he agreed that there was a hole going through the brand new tub and that's where the leak was coming from. It took him about five minutes to do that but he couldn’t fix the tub, and I had to get somebody else because, as I've been told, plumbers don’t fix fiberglass tub. So, I paid him his fee and he went on his way and then I called somebody that I knew who could actually fix it.

One day in middle of a particularly hot summer we heard a loud POP outside and our AC system died. We called American Home Shield (AHS) and arranged a service call through them. A local AC repair company arrived and recommended replacing this 30+ year old Borg Warner system (which appeared to be the unit which originally came with the house when it was built ca. 1979). I called AHS for authorization to replace the system, but they stated they would only reimburse the cost of repairing the defective unit, which according to the AC repair tech would simply be a band aid fix that would be needed again in the near future.
I asked AHS point blank whether they would allow the same downtime to occur repeatedly (even mentioned my wife having a heart condition that could be impacted by a lack of temperature control), but they refused to offer more than the cost of repairing the old unit. I accepted this, then dropped my contract with them and spent the money to replace the entire system (fortunately local county rebates saved me some cash by doing a package deal). Aside from covering the cost of some appliance repairs, I think eliminating AHS as the middleman was the best decision. In addition to infuriating me by suggesting my wife's well being is less important than their bottom line, they impressed me at the end especially as more of a scam than a useful service. Would not recommend.

We took him out of the house and called American Home Shield, told them we didn't want to see him again. He was removed from their list. Despite that, having AHS has been absolutely fantastic. When I filed a claim for our water heater, the callback was very rapid, within the next day. AHS representatives have always been more than gracious, very interested in our problem. And the guy was out the day after the call. He diagnosed our problem and said he would replace it. He fixed it like he said he would and took the old water heater, which we didn't have to dispose of. His work was quick and efficient. We're very satisfied with them that I recommended them to a neighbor just the other day.

The guy was an expert with what he was doing, did it as quickly as he could, and did an excellent job. So it was a good experience. I submitted the claim over the phone and it was very simple. However, I've had three experiences with them and there was one guy that wasn't great but two of them were excellent. Also, I didnt like how aggressively they came after me to renew the contract. It was just over-the-top renewal information, starting way before the contract was up.

I have been under contract with AHS since 4/12/2002. 4/2/16 woke up to water heater leaking in garage. Plumber recommended by AHS, found on Angie's List, wrote on receipt that Heater is in "good" condition, but recommended repair of piping not covered by contact. AHS representative advised heater in "good" shape and the cost of non-contracted repair is $350. I declined. Plumber turned water off to house, apparently unsafe to leave on and left. Called Hiller Plumbing, who immediately showed me the corroded Water Heater, advising replacement immediately. I am legally blind and very disappointed that AHS would co-sign with a unethical company, once again. Had a similar experience with AC repair and AC still doesn't work! Will be calling that one in Monday. Complained to AHS there - looking up a plumber to give a 2nd opinion. If they agree w/ first guy I pay another $75.

It’s been a while since we’ve had to make a claim with American Home Shield. So far, I’m extremely pleased with them. Submitting a claim is easy, and most of their techs have been very pleasant and professional, but there are two that are never allowed in my house ever again. One was a business out of Harris County, Harris County Appliances. I had some extra washer parts at my house and I told them they could use them to repair my washer if necessary. Instead of giving me back the parts that I have paid for that they did not use, they took those with them. The other one was a gentleman who did appliance repair on washers as a side job, but it was hard to schedule for him to come to the house and he still asked me for a tip. They're not welcome here anymore and I don't care if there's nobody else in town. But other than that, Green’s Appliances, the plumbing company, was extremely professional, polite and on time. I had no trouble with them at all.

Living in FL where air-conditioning is heavily used, we thought having a home warranty that covers our air-conditioning units would be beneficial. Unfortunately between paying the $75 service call fee, sometimes having to wait 48 hours (in sweltering summer heat) for the service repairman to show who would then patch it up for another year when really it should have been replaced. After several "repairs" we were told that we would have to pay for the replacement freon, which had completely leaked, & would amount to approx. $1000. At that point we elected to replace it, at our own expense of course.
The company that AHS has a contract with came in at several thousand dollars above 2 other estimates. We've been stonewalled by AHS when just trying to retrieve the service call fee since no repair was ever made, plus we were told by the original service provider that AHS would put money toward our replacement air conditioner, not much but a few hundred dollars. Well nothing came of that either. We'd been with AHS since we moved into our house 7 years ago, and at best I figure we've broken even on years that we've required an appliance repair. We won't be renewing our contract this year.

The latest claim I submitted with American Home Shield was with the water dispenser. The water wouldn’t come out at all, and they had to put a heater element in because the tube to the water was freezing. They tried one thing the first time and it didn’t work, so they came back with another part and it’s been working since then. I’ve been using this particular repair service. When AHS tells me I have to wait a week with Sears, I ask if I can use the other repair service and they let me go ahead. AHS has been great. They notify me by email and a written letter, and I pay for the deductible.
I first had AHS two years ago and I had some issues with the dryer and refrigerator, and they got them fixed so I opted for the third year. They used to do a nice service with my air conditioner. They cleaned and threw some Freon in, but they discontinued that. I’m a single female, and I don’t have anyone to help me that’s why I pay a lot of money to have a warranty to have peace of mind. I don’t use it a lot, and I don’t know if I really get $600 worth out, but I’m disappointed that they pulled away a particular service which was very helpful.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was the blower inside of my heating unit. I called them and went through the prompts. They gave me a telephone number and the name of the company that they would be sending out to make an appointment and repair it. The subcontractor who came couldn’t fix it and had to order a part. Then I had to call the subcontractor company twice because the first time, the person put me off and I gave them time. I left messages and they never would talk to me. I got the impression that they were not a very well managed company. They were going through some flux either with technicians or routing, and they weren’t here from the city.
But it was starting to get hot, and so I called again and talked to the supervisor then they escalated my request and eventually they called me back a couple of weeks later. They finally ordered the part, which the guy never ordered in the first place. The part showed up at my door through UPS. Then I talked to American Home Shield because even though the part was here, nobody showed up to install it. It took another three weeks and American Home Shield did move on it, not the subcontractor.
American Home Shield got somebody else from there but they didn’t send the same technician. The technician who came finally fixed it. I knew this guy was more informed and a better technician because he knew about the high and low fees while the other person never did. Once he got it in, he calibrated everything. The blower's a little quiet and I don’t even hear it when it’s running. He set it up beautifully and I haven’t had a problem since. The performance had been fabulous since the repair.
I’ve been with American Home Shield since I’ve owned my home in this city and I was a little disappointed that it took two phone calls. I thought that I should have been able to resolve it in the first phone call. But then the second person who I did talk to moved it forward so I’m grateful for that. I’ve also let the thought of it go away. I already sent in my payment for this year’s re-upping, and I did hang on to a lot of disappointment because I realized it wasn’t American Home Shield--it was the people that they were subcontracting to. These people weren’t as reliable as some of the others who have shown up at my door.
I’ve heard of some stories from some of the contractors that were doing business with American Home Shield. The quality of the people they’re hiring is a lot less than what it used it be is what I’m getting at. When I first got here in this city, the type of technicians or the companies that showed up at my door for anything were A-rated in the city. One could see them all the time, the advertisements, Better Business Bureau. It's not only me but up and down in the area where I live at. I knew it was from American Home Shield and they were great.
Then all of a sudden, they went through a revamping and the quality of the companies went down, and the technicians were not as experienced. I also felt that as the prices go up every year, I wouldn’t be dissatisfied if the company they sent is of good quality. If I'm paying more money for something that I'm getting less of, then there’s a little bit of problem there. But they resolved my issue and I’m not totally dissatisfied with them.

Finally when somebody came out he was extremely unprofessional and my daughter ended up calling American Home Shield and telling them she does not want them back in her house.
The second contractor that came out and gave her a price of $805 in order to put it in stating that these were extras that were needed as in a earthquake strap, a pan, and if you other things that they said were within code. If you're contacting outside plumbing company and having them look at it they said that those charges were asinine. That she didn't need any of those things and the prices that they gave that were gouging. We were told by AHS it would have to wait until Monday but under the circumstance at hand we couldn't wait. So I went to our Lowe's and bought a replacement hot water heater and removed the old one and installed the new one. We sent in a request for reimbursement and they are refusing to reimbursement because we went out of network.
My family couldn't afford a motel for 6 people, because we had no water and it was cheaper to fix it ourselves than pay for 3 motel rooms for 3 nights until it was fixed. I have tried to call and discuss the issue with management but they won't budge. So buyer beware. No service on weekends and they don't care if you have water to bath or drink for my Grandkids.

You get put on hold forever and they promise to call you back (this happened SEVEN TIMES) and they never do. The plumbing company that eventually came out said this is the worst company and their goal is to find ways to determine why the event is not covered. The plumber capped the pipe and left and we never heard from them again. Again another round of unanswered calls to AHS. We were without hot water for SIX weeks. AHS could then not find another company to put in the replacement heater. We gave up and paid for the service ourselves. AHS promised to reimburse a token amount (they promised to send us a check that amounted to 1/3 of our cost). 2 weeks later they send us a letter that then reneged even on that promise. I have only used my policy a few times in almost 11 years and expected to be treated much better as they tell me I am a valued customer.

Broken promises. I called to get a service on a stoppage and the company the chose for me did not bother to call and let me know they weren't showing up. I found out by calling them. When I asked if they would send someone else they said, "Yes. The same company on Monday" (3 days later). I asked for another company but that put me in the same boat. I asked to speak to a manager but no one bothered to call ever. I had to pay for my own plumber instead. When I called back and asked about another problem stemming from the original call (I have a leak and no water) I was told it would be 3 days before someone calls me. But it's not an emergency if you have NO water in your house for 3 days. I tried canceling my service but when they transferred me, that department was closed. Very frustrated!

We had a stopped up sewer line and because it was the main line, the whole house was blocked up. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield on a Sunday but I didn’t get a confirmation email until the next evening. The next afternoon, I hadn’t heard from AHS or the plumber so I called my own plumber and they came out and fixed the line. We were really inconvenienced and that experience with AHS was aggravating. But, I won’t blame it on the plumber because AHS was late in getting the work order.
I sent them an email about what I thought was bad service for that call. Then, we got a call from a guy who wanted to renew the contract. He told us he won’t send in our bill and they would look at a reimbursement for that. We haven’t heard anything yet but it appears AHS is trying to work it out so we re-signed with them. The past few calls we’ve had through them has been pretty quick. Pricewise, AHS is about the same as anybody else and they cover about the same things.

Ten days without air is hard in Miami! I have, supposedly, an agreement with American Home Shield. They sent to my home a service called "aaa All Brands Appliance". The owner, Johnny and his brother Rafael, have different excuses, but my apartment does not have air! They have problems to find the first piece, the compressor, but also they have bad luck (me also), because the fan in that moment burned suddenly! Now, after 10 days, they are trying to connect by Internet to ask the piece but their Internet is not working! At the same time their truck burned itself! I asked to American Home Shield to send me other service without inconveniences like aaa All Brands, but the employee told me "You are under contract, you have to wait for them." I tried to speak with the supervisor, is not available! How long do you believe I am going to wait?
Updated on 3/30/16: Yesterday the supervisor Maureen from Tennessee promised if the AAA did not find the solution today at noon, she personally would send someone else. Today the answer from AAA All Appliance (what a name! ) is: They don't have the piece. Maureen is not present and Yesenia, her substitute, answered. I have to wait until this Friday, 15 days after the beginning of this affair. I want to ask, does not exist other service? In what part of my contract I got marriage with this incapable "service"? American Home Shield: THIS IS A SHAME and a BAD JOB!

My first claim with AHS was place on November 2015, when my dryer stopped working. I will agree with the majority of the reviews that their customer service team is very polite and professional, however it is now almost April 2016 and I am still without a dryer. In Nov 1st tech came out and diagnosed the heating element needs to be replaced. Part replaced in Dec. Dryer stopped working two weeks later. After the holiday tech 2 came out and said the thermostat needed to be replaced. One week later unit stopped working. Feb tech 3 from same company came out and said unit needs to be replaced. Called in to customer service who scheduled for Sears to come out for "a second opinion". Sears came March 1 and said motor is shot, need new unit. Stated the report would take 24 hrs. I placed at least 10 -12 calls to customer service who quoted the same, "We have not received anything from Sears". Called Sears who stated "We sent it."
Never seems to be a supervisor or manager available to escalate the problem. March 25 I received a mail from Sears with the diagnose report they sent to AHS. I immediately called AHS who continue to quote the same thing, "We have not received the report yet." Again no mgr to talk to. Throughout this situation I never received an email or phone call from the company. Going into April I am now preparing a letter to BBB and looking for a number at headquarters. This is my first and lady claim. I plan to cancel my acct.

I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS about my electric water heater. I've always had a good service from them but the contractor came unprepared. His multimeter's battery was dead and he didn't have a spare battery. He said it was an electrical problem that has to be referred back. But when I called the company up to find out if they were gonna come, they told me they don't do electric for repairs, even though they have a department, they only do it for an install. He also lied to them and said he used a wire with a live bulb on it but I had one of those testers, so he wouldn't be needing it when I had one.
I was without a hot water from a week ago this past Thursday until this Friday and I was taking cold showers. But I have to give it to AHS when they did try to make an appointment the next day on Friday. However my wife had doctor's appointments and we couldn't cancel them. And the technician came Tuesday. Also, it was fixed and it was just the circuit breaker that was slightly off but the contractor didn't know it himself when he came. But AHS is good and I'd still recommend it to a friend.

They stated it would take 1-2 days to process. Coordinated replacement of my air handler rather than paying hundreds of dollars on one part on a unit >10 years old. Called Monday. No information on completion of cash in lieu. Called again Tuesday to AHS, no update. Called AHS again Wednesday, was told they would call me right back-never called back. Called again Thursday, the lady stated they had not received the price on the part to complete the cash in lieu option, she stated she would fix the issue and call me back-no return call. Called Friday, customer service agent told me my part was in??? I said I went with the cash in lieu option, she stated the part was ordered on Monday (after I agreed to the cash in lieu option) and that my only option was repair.
I explained I had already paid for and coordinated replacement of my air handler rather than replacing one part. She transferred me to a manager Courtney ** who's only response repeatedly was that I was not offered a cash in lieu option and that the part was ordered. I explained AHS called me and offered the cash in lieu option last Friday. She would only repeat over and over they would not honor that and that my only option was repair. Buying a new home we decided to get American Home Shield Insurance for our new house. After about 6 months our kitchen sink started to drain slowly, so we called American Home Shield. The first plumber came out. We had to first pay him $75 before he trashed our kitchen and really plugged up the drain. Said it was tree roots. (Not true.) The second plumber could not clean it out either and said he would be back with a bigger auger. Said it was grease. (Not true.) He never call us to come back. So I called AHS to hear what was to happen next and they said they do not cover grease in kitchen drains. We went round and round w/o any help from them. We were on our own. It has now been 20 days w/o a kitchen sink. We called Roto-Rooter and they discovered that a elbow pipe in the house had corroded and came apart. In 2 days we were fixed and had our sink back working. AHS turned their backs on us.

For the most part, my recent claim with AHS worked out well. Submitting a claim started out easy. I call the number, tell them the problem and they send out a service man. We had one problem with our central heating; it's a heat-air combination. They came out and then it was rusty inside the appliance, but they shut the door and said that they were done and weren't fooling with this. When I had a local service man come up, all the problem was that the drain pipe for the AC when running was stopped up. He unplugged that and the problem was gone. That little episode cost me quite a bit of money but other than that, it's been pretty good. The techs that came have been fine. It's an older house and the AC's an older unit, but they've kept it running.
They had misconstrued one of the service guy's words. AHS have a pre-conceived notion of what's gonna be wrong and they're not open to hear anything else. I'm not about to drop them and go somewhere else, but they need to listen to what the customer has to say because the customer is neck-deep in whatever the problem is so only the customer knows. Other than that, I pay the premium each month and when a problem arises, AHS come in. It's definitely paid for itself and I would recommend the company.

American Home Shield denied the claim (after paying our $75 copay and waiting weeks for a response from them). They denied the claim simply because our ice and water dispenser still functions. Since everyone else seems to be having such great luck with AHS, please tell me what I am doing wrong. In 2012 my tankless water heater burnt up. It took over 1 month without hot water for them to finally decide to replace it. In 2014, it once again burnt up. This time they told me that the electrician did not have it wired properly. It was their electrician. So once again they made the repairs but I was without hot water for 2 weeks. Now again in 2016, it has burnt up again. They are telling me that the wiring is not up to code so they are not responsible for replacing it without additional fees incurred by me.
It has been 13 days since I made my initial complaint. No one has even been out to look at it yet. They asked that I send them a photo which I did and that is how they determined it was burnt up because of not being up to code. Their electrician wired it in 2014, so how is it my problem that it is not up to code??? How can you have the same issue 3 times in less than 5 years if someone is not doing something right along the way? Also, I pay my payment on time every month... never late as it comes out automatically. So why am I waiting for 2 weeks to even have anyone come out and look at it?

What's frustrating was the aggravation of trying to get somebody else on the phone. Furthermore, I'm retired and I will be 80 years old next month. I don't have any more money coming in and I don't see the need to pay $56 or $36 a month when I've already replaced the refrigerator and the stove as soon as I got here. I went to Home Depot and Lowe's and did my own negotiating. So most of the things that I would need home service for are taken care of. My experience with American Home Shield has not been as good in the last year than it has before. It seems like submitting claims online isn't always possible, and when I call, the people that I talk to don't always know what's going on. In one of my claims, I had one person who sounded like he was high on drugs, it was scary. Then on the recent claim I made, someone came out, so I guess that one went through. The contractor checked the garage door and tried to, in a lecturing way, tell me that I don't know what I had supposedly not done. I had just purchased the house. He kind of admonished me that there was some maintenance I should've taken care of and if I didn't do it immediately, then there would be problems and the garage door would break.
What he was telling me that needed to be done wasn't covered in my policy. And when I said, "Well, I'd like to get some quotes on that first", he said, "Well, if you don't do it right now then I have to submit a note telling them that you didn't accept my advice". It was very threatening, but I ended up having him do it. He, of course, charged me extra. I've been a customer of AHS for about five years and it seems like the service level has declined.

This was a Friday night, and by the time the first tech came on Tuesday, my pool was looking bad, so I shocked it. Well little did I know is that they check the water and if the chemical are not within specs they deny. I tried to explain to them that I had just shocked it earlier that day. Additionally the first tech told me that it was an electrical issue on both parts of the units that never touch water. This was confirmed by a second tech they sent out, but the same thing, water was not within spec. He also told me it was an electrical issue, but tested the water also, and that's what they went with.
I also contacted Hayward, the maker of the pump, and heater, and they told me that water has nothing to do with my issues, as they were electrical in nature. I was also told by a close friend and pool tech that this a common practice to deny a claim. This really disturbs me that I have been a loyal customer for over 5 years and they use this flawed process to deny my claim. I'm now on the hook for almost 5K in repairs myself. Why did I even bother to continue my warranty? Very sad in FL. :( Not to mention being on hold for 45 min, and then another 30 to talk to the right person.

Recently I've started having issues with my outdoor ac unit where the fan wasn't turning. I called AHS for someone to come out. A tech came out from Myers Comfort Specialist and fixes the issue and was gone and I had the $75 trip fee. Well that following Tuesday it was the same issue so I called AHS and scheduled another service call. The same company Myers Comfort Specialist came out with the same tech yesterday and now we're being told my dog caused the issues so the warranty will not cover it.
My issues is the tech never wrote in the work order what causes the problem the first time but the second time it's the pets causing the problem. I feel like maybe the tech saw the the dog may have chewed but was able to fix and when he came back he realized he shouldn't have it which puts him and the company at liability. I don't feel like AHS is doing their job to investigate because Myers Comfort Specialist will protect their workers. Now I have to spend another day in a hot house until someone is able to come out. Considering I chose to renew my warranty with this company, this is poor customer service in my opinion. AHS is a complete joke and I think the tech is just trying not to lose his job because he was trying to help.

I’m from the old school so I like to talk to people when filing a claim. I call and state my problem, and the claims rep gives me a claim number. I wait for them to call me back with a repair person. The repair person calls me and we make an appointment. They come, I pay my deductible, and they do their thing. The repairmen American Home Shield send are absolutely superb. They do what they need to do and are very professional. I recently filed a claim for the ceramic stove top, and it was repaired. I also had an issue with a garbage disposal, and the repair person tried to repair it once and then when I called the second time, which was six months later, he told people that it had to be replaced and they put in a new one.
I wish that American Home Shield's fee is based on usage. I’ve been their customer for ten years and it would seem to me that they should somehow prorate the fee that I have to pay upfront with the amount of time that they had against the number of claims they have had in my property. It would be more equitable.

My last claim was for the dryer repair. I submitted it online first but the repair company called me back and said that they wouldn’t work on that specific brand even though they’d been assigned by American Home Shield. So I thought it would be easy to call American Home Shield and let them work it out from there.
It took about a week for them to come out though but they came out right when they said they would. And they were here and diagnosed the problem right away, but then they didn’t have any parts. So we waited over another week for them to get the parts and then come back in and actually make the repair. The other thing is the vendor was confused where they were supposed to get the parts. He identified the parts he needed but he wasn’t sure where he was supposed to get them. They didn’t know if they were supposed to order them or American Home Shield was gonna order it for them, which I think delayed the repair. But it works fine now after the repair.

I’m happy and everything worked out great.
AHS is a great company to sign up with. I was kind of leery about it but I had a nephew out of state that had signed up with them and he had a great experience with the company. And they have been outstanding. I’ve used them twice since I’ve had my contract and I’ve never had any trouble or argument with them about getting anything fixed. They don’t question what I’ve asked to get done. They’re a Johnny-on-the-spot. I have told other people about them and had some friends who had signed up also.

To be frank, you will be better off saving your money and paying for the home repair out of pocket anyway. I should have known the first month when it took them 6 times (yes and 6 service fees) just to fix my air conditioner. Just like they "monitor and record calls for quality assurance" I do too, and the lies, rude attitudes, over talking, outstandingly long hold times, and overall customer service are egregious with this "company". I have the call recordings to prove it. AHS plays off the subconscious fear of homeowners genuinely concerned for unforeseen circumstances happening in your home, just to conveniently throw a curve ball and tell you "We do not cover that repair" after you have paid a multitude of mandatory service fees.
The service fees are understandable, but every person they send out for a service is conveniently "not covered in your policy". I precisely describe the prior to the service being scheduled and I was assured multiple times: "Yes, that service is covered in your policy" not only by American Home Shield, but by the service provider, only for them to come out, take my money and tell me "Sorry, we don't cover that." When I called to complain that the $225 in fees I paid were a waste, I was transferred to the retention department who re-assured me 1 of my fees would be refunded after 14 days. I called back in and was rudely notified they would give me a coupon, not a refund, and it would take an additional month. This is a fear mongering of the homeowner scheme, no sense in paying double.

My A/C went out in a rental unit for cancer patients. I called AHS and they referred me to a very poor A/C repair service. Their contractor wanted over 500 dollars upfront. A week later AHS called me and said they would need to cut a hole in the wall 2 flights. At that point AHS OFFERED me a buy out 350 - service calls. I accepted and I found a contractor who fixed it without tearing up the wall. Now AHS is changing the rules for the buyout.
Updated on 3/27/2016: This office continually required me to use their chosen contractor even though I complained. The contractor could not fix the AC problem, but wanted to sell me a total new unit. I complained to AHS and they did nothing other than bill me for the contractors service call. By the way, I had it repaired by a contractor of my choice out of my own pocket. I know I'll receive the same programmed answer from AHS, "We apologize, etc."

I contacted American Home Shield because of basement toilet backup and sewage entering shower in basement. American Home Shield service Plumber comes out and unable to locate "accessible clean-out" for main sewer line. Plumber nor I am sure whether the house, due to age, have one. American Home Shield Plumber recommends pulling the toilet to access the sewer line for clean out. American Home Shield DENIES the service request because of the act.
My home was built in 1968 and of course building codes changes. Due to age and when I brought my home, over time renovations occurred. We came to the conclusion that the main sewer line was behind a wall somewhere in the basement. Although American Home Shield cover toilets, toilet mechanisms and toilet wax rings (which the toilet sets on and connects to the sewer line), they refused to pull the toilet and access the main sewer line for unclogging.
American Home Shield also suggested that I pay the actual cost 475 for the plumber to pull the toilet and unclog the main sewer line. Keep in mind that the plumber service "NO GUARANTEE ON ANY STOPPAGES." Go figure! American Home Shield Authorization personnel (Felicia) told me that I can have someone come out, and install an "accessible clean out" for the main sewer line. I could place another request with the $75 service charge and they will come out and unclog my sewer line. Rather also due to the age and when I brought my home renovations.

I have been an AHS customer for about 7 years. Over that period of time, the company has turned into a disaster. The primary reason that I bought the service was to deal with HVAC issues. Initially, freon was included in service calls. The company now only pays $10/lb which is absolutely absurd for anyone who can actually afford to pay for AHS. I had a heating coil replaced just over two years ago that has failed again. As I recall the company used, it was a mom & pop company (minus the mom) that used a cell phone as a contact number. There wasn't even a company business location. It is not surprising that the unit has failed. I received a call from an AHS rep to inform me that the freon refill will be 10 lbs and that I am responsible for the balance ($750). This is as a result of faulty parts/work done by a subpar vendor that happened just over two years ago.
This is the 2nd time in 3 years that I have had to do so. What makes it even worse is that the rep on the phone had the audacity to tell me that AHS did not do the repair and simply wanted me to know that they would not be covering it. If you are in the market for a home warranty company, please do your homework. There are many more qualified, caring companies out there that would put this poor excuse for a home warranty company to shame.

We’ve had several calls over the year and they’ve all turned out to be very satisfactory.
I never had any problem getting a hold of AHS or them getting someone out to take care of our stuff. On the other hand, my son had a terrible experience because he couldn’t get them to call back. I've been with American Home Shield for quite some time now. I got in them because they offered me an opportunity to cover not only electrical but all other different areas like plumbing and various appliances. They had to replace my heating and air conditioning unit, and once worked on my dryer and water heater. It's easier to go through the website when filing a claim. I've spoken with them on the phone and sometimes it's easy for an initial claim, but it's a bit harder when trying to check on a claim. One time I was on the line for a long time before I got them, but after that there's no problem and they called to check back. They also send the emails out real quick in terms of informing who's supposed to call and who's been assigned on the claim.
All of the contractors were courteous. They work on whatever they're assigned to do and if they have to go further than that, they send information to AHS to say when the unit had to be replaced. AHS would then call me and say they're going to replace it. When they had to replace the air-conditioning system, they had to pay extra for the freon. For the dryer, I had to call back when it wasn't taken care of and having some problems. But everything else that had been worked on has been working better than before. It's good having AHS. I will recommend them to a friend.

I went without hot water for 2 weeks. This time I went without water 4 days, they scheduled a time to be there.
I was out of town so I scheduled someone to sit at my house all day to wait for them. They went to the wrong address. I found that out and called them back and they said they would be there or call me back. Never showed up and never called. American Home Shield apologized and said they would get it handled and call me back. They also never called me back. How can such incompetent companies stay in business??? Just warning you too. It waste your money on a home warranty with them because they do not care how long you are inconvenienced and neither do the bottom of the barrel contractors they hire to do their work for them!!

But I had a problem with the contractor that was sent. I explained to them that the air conditioning is not working. I could feel the air blowing but it wasn't cooling. He checked it and said that it's just old which I don't buy. I put it on at 3PM and the coolest it got was 79. I told him that it won't go any lower than 79 and sometimes it's higher than that. He said AHS won't cover it unless it's not working. I told him that it's not doing what it's supposed to do. He said that the problem may be the ductwork is seeping up. I asked if he can look at it up in the attic but he said he can't go up there.
He said that the air conditioning was working when he came in the afternoon and he set it for 69. But I said that it's possible that he just turned it on and got it all up. It's been off since 1pm. He made it sound like I was lying. It was a bad experience. He said he didn't wanna do anything because he doesn't want to get fired. I almost terminated my coverage but I decided not to. Yet, everything else about American Home Shield is positive.

AHS offered to replace or upgrade my appliance because repair parts are unavailable. If I upgrade using their upgrade service, AHS reduces the amount that they will pay towards the upgraded appliance and installation versus what they will spend to buy and install an equivalent appliance by over $500. I have provided AHS with an accurate analysis demonstrating this point. To date the AHS Customer Appliance Support has not responded to my request to correct their CIL amount. It is not logical that AHS will spend more money on an equivalent replacement appliance and then not spend that same amount towards the price of an upgraded appliance. This does not make good business sense or reflect good customer service. I agree to spend the price difference and extra sales tax to upgrade, but should not be penalized over $500 for using their upgrade service.

Part shows up on our doorstep and is again the wrong part. Not only did the wrong part show but the plumber is a no show knowing that we desperately need hot water. It's been two weeks without hot water and when we call American Home Shield they tell us they will not do anything except call the company two days from now and check the status. We debated about getting it fixed or replacing, but in the end, called AHS. We put in the repair request, then heard nothing for several days. I called them back, and requested Sears to come out. The first vendor they set us up with never called.
Sears was great and informed us that one of the parts was no longer available, and AHS would do a search for it. We heard nothing for a week. Called a few more times to be informed that they would be replacing it. We have stainless steel appliances, but the comparable replacement offer was for black or white, would not take into account the price difference for stainless. We decided to upgrade to a double oven, and we gave them the model number. We paid the difference for the new range on March 1, and was told we would be contact within 7-10 days for delivery.
I called yesterday (day 10), and the only thing they told me is that it was being held up by Whirlpool, Maybe we would hear next week. My husband called for additional information and was told we would have it delivered by April 1, a full month after we paid for it. No explanation as to why it is taking so long, no offer to find a replacement. Luckily, it is just a stove, and not a water heater, furnace, or AC. It would have been faster to purchase on our own, and to be reimbursed. Seems like someone should be investigating the hold up and giving some real options or answers. Not happy with our first appliance replacement experience.

You submit a claim, you call them three times, and then they tell you everything is covered except what you have a problem with. I have rentals and a lot of houses with AHS. At the end of the day, it takes about a month to get anything resolved and I always have to pay a huge out-of-pocket close to $1,300 to repair the damage because AHS is not going to pay for everything. It's never a smooth and easy process to get anything fixed through them.
I've had their service for the past nine years, and after much complaining and talking to their high level management, I did notice a minor improvement. If they had a grade of like 30%, now maybe they're 35%. I still have to threaten to get anything done. The repair by the contractor is fine. I don't think AHS hires topnotch companies. The companies are overwhelmed with the same problem of too many calls especially on ACs coming in the summer. Nobody has time or parts.

My pool has rust everywhere in it and is not useable due to it. American Home Shield said the heater could still heat the water so technically it still worked. They did not care the pool was not useable due to the rust in the water. The heater makes a crazy sound due to the manifolds being rusty and makes the pressure in the filter go up due to the blockage. So my pool guy said not to use the pool or hot tub until the manifolds get replaced or a new heater gets installed.
For this company to say the heater still worked even though sitting in rusty water is a health risk boggles my mind. No one should use these guys. They are not an honest company. An honest company would have said "yes, your pool heaters manifolds are rusty and causing serious issues and need to be replaced." Shame on American Home Shield... Paying customers should not be treated this way.
Hello Jason, I am sorry to hear about this experience. I can understand the frustration however, if the item is still working per the terms of the contract AHS would not cover to repair or replace the item. I do apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused. Thanks ^CW

I had a problem with my central air conditioning system so I made a request online to American Home Shield and it was very easy. The response from the contractor was immediate and when he came, he sought out the issue, which was eventually resolved. Since the repair, the AC has been as good as new. As long as the air thing goes well, I’d be very happy. I’ve been with American Home Shield for several years and anytime I’ve called, their responses have been very prompt and the problems that existed were fixed. I certainly appreciate this service. As a matter of fact, there are several members of my church that I recommended the service to and they’ve taken advantage of it.

I submitted a claim for our washer. I called American Home Shield and they assigned the vendor. They came, checked the problem, and then fixed it. If they couldn't fix it, they would replace the item.

My latest claim with AHS was for our garbage disposal, and it took 2 minutes of my time once the guy finally got here to have it repaired. That was one of the good experiences except that I had to pay a $75 fee for something I could have done if I had the right size of an Allen wrench. On the whole, my experience with them has been good and I’m satisfied. I usually get a callback within 48 hours and an appointment is set for some point in the future and the contractors generally show up when they’re supposed to. However there has been a couple of things that I’m pretty disappointed about. I had a claim with them for a leaking toilet and they sent some guy out who has no plumbing license to try to solve the problem on three separate occasions, and that was a bad experience.
I get that AHS is in this business to make money, the only thing is that they seem to hire contractors that nobody else will hire. They hire the least expensive contractors they can possibly find to come and do the work so frequently. They have contractors show up that aren’t very good at what they’re doing. They need to find higher quality contractors, find out if they’re qualified like they say they’re qualified and what their reputation is within the local community, which is very important.

Submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for my air conditioning and it was very easy. Their service was fabulous. The gentleman called me right the next morning after I've submitted my claim and came out on a Sunday which I thought was fantastic. He corrected the problem in no time so I was able to go right on to church. He also corrected an issue that may have been wrongly installed by a previous technician.

We have loved American Home Shield ever since we purchased our first home in 2007. It was nice to know that there was always someone there when and if you needed them. Had 2 small claims over the course of the last 9 years, all handled beautifully. Then the fridge happened. We reported to them, they assigned a contractor, contractor turned out to be incompetent, got my fridge mixed up with someone else's fridge, gave them my part then informed me they would have to reorder mine. My fridge had been overheating to the point that it was cooking the food in the fridge. It took over a month for the contractor to come with the wrong part, at which time we were using a neighbors fridge.
When I phoned AHS to tell them the contractor had mixed up my fridge with someone else's I was told the contractor had told them that I had refused to let them install the part. (He had brought a gasket to stop a leaky water dispenser, my water dispenser was fine. Only after refreshing his memory did he remember that mine was the one heating up.) End result - never got fixed, and after many discussions with AHS and then being told it would be another 2-3 weeks, with the same contractor, we ended up buying a new fridge. Not impressed. We had been great clients for years, had referred them many times, then, when we really needed them they dropped the ball. Very disappointed, as we really had thought they were a wonderful company.

I have an induction motor on my furnace that is making noise which means that it’s going to fail fairly soon, but American Home Shield refused to replace it until it fails. Since it’s the heater, it’s a rather stupid myopic way to look at it. It's going to put me in an untenable position if it goes out before the winter is over.

If you have a single HVAC sending air to multiple floors, beware!!! The air dampers are not covered. If one goes bad, forget about getting your floors close to evenly heated. The real surprise...American Home Shield does not even consider air dampers an essential part of the system!

American Home Shield deceives its customers when describing their services. In middle of January 2016, I contacted American Home Shield for repair services, notifying them that my washing machine no longer worked. On January 27, 2016, American Home Shield sent an unqualified technician to determine what the issue was, and all that the technician was able to discern was that "the transmission was bad." The technician informed me that he would provide American Home Shield his report and I would be contacted by American Home Shield for follow-up steps.
After not receiving any further follow-up from Home Shield, I contacted them again on March 1 to check on next steps. American Home Shield notified me that they needed to conduct another examination and contacted another repair service company. The second examination was to take place on March 7, 2016. After rushing back to my house from the office, they saw that I have a dog and refused to conduct the service while my dog was on the premise, even if the dog was tied to the leash and on a separate floor from where the washing machine is located. Without any further explanation they left. American Home Shield neither informed me of pet restrictions nor notified me that their contractors could refuse service and not make an effort to reschedule.
I called American Home Shield and reported this type of incident could have been avoided if I was notified that dogs were not allowed on the premise or if they had provided me with an adequate technician in the first place. American Home Shield then informed me that they don't have control over the qualifications of the technicians they hire to perform services and that these technicians were not American Home Shield employees. In other words, American Home Shield said that they don't have a duty or responsibility to find an adequately skilled person to evaluate the problems you have.
Not only is this poor service, but it is a stalling tactic by an insurance company to frustrate its customers and ultimately discourage them from making a claim and using the services they charge their customers for. American Home Shield deceived me in offering competent service and assured me that my washing machine would be fixed in a timely manner.

I have had this policy for three years and received a notice in the mail that my account has been under review and my policy will not be renewed. A number was listed for further questions. I called the number and the answer I received was to refer to the letter which said nothing. Very dissatisfied with this company and I know that I deserved better treatment than what I received from American Home Shield.

I seldom take the time to write a review but sometimes it is so bad you feel obligated to help others out. My experience with American Home Shield has been just that. I called Dec 27th for a service call for a broken range. They came out immediately, were polite and professional but could not fix the problem. The next week, AHS called and said it would take 4-6 to get the parts in for repair. I put it on my calendar to follow up in 8 weeks. When I called back I was given the runaround, promised follow up phone calls that never happen. They are incapable of handling complaints via email to provide any documentation forcing you to deal with their terrible phone support with long wait times and rude knowledgeable staff.
It is now March 7th, the problem is yet to be resolved but they keep billing me for my monthly premium. I have never dealt with such poor customer service and would never sign up with American Home Shield again. Insurance is only as good as the service when you need it. These guys have not only dropped the ball they have kicked it off the field.

The first time we used AHS didn't go well because of the situation with the house which I'm not dealing with anymore. For our recent claim, we filed for the refrigerator and microwave. Their representative was very helpful as well as the technician. He fixed one part of the refrigerator and surprisingly he had the part needed for the microwave, so he fixed that as well in no time. He took care of 95% of the problem but we're waiting for a part to come in so he can complete the repair on the refrigerator. The microwave, from being totally dead when I called it in, is now working fine.

American Home Shield was great. I had two different claims, one for an air conditioning problem and another for a plumbing problem, all on the same day. I am an AHS customer and a contractor as well. As a contractor, I know how I expect me and my employees present ourselves when we’re working for a few customers. The people they chose to send to our house were excellent. When I submitted the claims, I just called it in and they’ve sent two people out which I’m aware of, and they were really helpful. The performance of the A/C and plumbing was excellent since the repair. I knew I had to pay for two different co-pays because the two claims didn’t have anything to do with one another. I have recommended them to other people.

I am American Home Shield customer for several years. In my experience if something costly involved, they will find the reason to blame the customer and refuse to fix it. My water heater stop working. No hot water. Called the AHS (American Home shield). They assign a plumbing company whose name start with Discount contractor. Plumber came and told us, "Need parts, which will be ordered and the office will contact you." I called their office next day to find out how long it will take to get the part. I been told by plumbing co that American Home Shield will not pay for the part because, listen to this "THERE WAS IMPROPER INSTALLATION." Parts will cost 700 dollars and if you want to buy new one it will cost 1800 dollars.
I called American Home Shield and ask them how it could be improper installation. We using this water heater for 10 years. Last time we had problem in 2014. Same plumbing company came and they did not mention any thing, about the improper installation. I called three other plumbing company to get the estimate. All of three plumbers said the same thing, there was no improper installation. Similar thing happen when my air conditioner broken. American Home Shield find the reason not to fix the air conditioner. I was without air condition for several days in hot weather. Now I was without hot water for a week in cold weather. I was surprise to see so many 5 stars by other customers. It make me wonder if the American Home Shield have something against me.
