AHS is great! Making a claim was very easy. The gentleman that recently came and fixed our dryer was awesome. It's better than it's ever worked. Their contractor was courteous. When we first moved here, we happened to get him the first time and he fixed our microwave, dishwasher and oven. He was very prompt and polite and clean about everything he did. We just couldn't ask for anybody better than he is. For any kind of repair in our appliances, we definitely have his name. We're hoping to get the same person. Maybe we will request him if it's something that he can take care of.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling. I called American Home Shield and they contacted somebody. With my experience with other home warranty people, it can take up to three, four, five days to get somebody out. But the contractor of AHS was prompt. He came out within a day or so and fixed it. He was friendly, knowledgeable and knew exactly what was going on and repaired it. He was here for 20 minutes and that was it.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield regarding my washing machine and the process was very easy. I did it over the phone and everybody was very helpful and polite. I think the guy who came to look at the washing machine was polite as well. But we chose to buy a new washing machine because the cost to fix it was quite high and we’re disappointed with the brand we bought since it crapped out for the remainder of its life. And I know of the way AHS operate. If I choose not to have it repaired, they will give me the repair cost towards a new purchase. AHS explained that very clearly.

Made the call to American Home Shield late in afternoon after 6pm. Contractor called the next morning and the tech arrived that afternoon and checked out the entire unit and everything was working fine. He said it might have been a leaf or some another debris that made the noise, but the A/C checked out fine. Very good day.

My realtor recommended AHS after purchasing a flipper home. After several calls to AHS where the hold lasted over 40 minutes each call, I finally got my service set up. They were supposed to be there 8 am-12 pm. Despite several calls during my wait, they never showed during their allotted time period and no call. Around 2:30 the "technician" showed up with no apology, no excuse and was quite rude. I had 4 separate leaks happening. He said he fixed two, the next one he spent an hour on the phone with his boss resulting in him being too nervous to try to fix it and break it, and the 4th and largest leak I was told was too difficult to get to. "That was it," he said.
After leaving, I googled the contractor that AHS hired to find out that they are one of the poorest rated plumbers in our area with tons of bad reviews. I called AHS and let them know what happened and they dispatched another plumber who never contacted me in the following days. One leak was so bad that I hired my own plumber to fix it. Once there my own plumber discovered that the two leaks the AHS contractor said he fixed were still leaking and never fixed. So I missed an entire day of work to have NOTHING fixed and AHS is still attempting to collect their $75 service fee. I am now disputing the fee but assume they will not correct this situation as I have now spoken with two reps who have directed me to supervisors who will not return my calls. DO NOT USE AHS. The frustration of dealing with them and their unprofessional and inexperienced contractors is NOT worth it.

My last experience was great - the contractor (Kevin from Miss Appliance) was actually early, very helpful, knowledgeable, diagnosed my appliance almost immediately, and got the replacement ordered. However, to get to this contractor, we needed to deal with 2 others (including one from his same company), who either diagnosed but didn't code correctly to fix or claimed they couldn't find an issue, when water was pouring out the bottom of my washer. We were without a washer for 2 months while people paraded in & out without fixing it, before we got to someone who could/would.

I've submitted claims with American Home Shield both online and via the telephone, and both were easy to do. I placed one for a leaking shower drain and I got a response from the plumber within a day. The guy who came out did an excellent job. He could have just pieced it together but he went to the hardware store and got a part. It was only a couple of dollars, so that it was done right. In every case that I've dealt with them they've fixed the problem and did it correctly. I've had very positive experiences with other contractors last year. However, they aren't very good on emergency service. The typical response for a pipe burst is a day or two, so I wasn't able to use them and I just called somebody else.

I called American Home Shield for my toilet bowl tank. I got a response from the vendor, and within a day, if not the same day, the repair person came out. It was not an emergency but he came out and fixed it. The tank is now absolutely better than before. We've had good success with American Home Shield on our two homes. They've been generally very good.

The technician that American Home Shield sent for a plumbing issue could not do the job because of other problems with a clean out valve, but it was due to no fault of his own or AHS. But I did file a claim earlier this year for a heating issue with my HVAC system and I was very pleased. I didn't have any problems with the service at all. The businesses that AHS deal with are reputable. The only thing is that they've gone up on their price for this upcoming year. Other than that, it was a good experience and I'm getting what I paid for.

When I had an issue with my air conditioner, American Home Shield got me in contact with one of their partner companies and they had somebody out within two business days. The contractor was very knowledgeable and informative. With the whole refrigerant policy that they have, it's weird that I still have to pay out of pocket for the freon. They have a dealer and they only pay for $10 of each pound and the stuff is $45 a pound. Also, AHS don’t pay very much - they pay 20 bucks out of $100 worth. Other than that, my experience has been convenient.

Our toilet flushes by itself, and I tried to schedule an appointment today for it with one of the companies that American Home Shield uses. I was told by this particular company that they can only schedule five days in advance. We're going out of town and won't be back until later in the month, and the day they wanted to book me out wasn’t available. That’s not their fault, so it's fine but I hope I don’t get penalized by AHS because sometimes if you don’t keep an appointment, they penalize you. Additionally, this would be the third time that this particular company has come out, so I'm not sure if they're using the correct device. They're also trying to get me to add something to my watering system, which I don’t want, but I have the option to say no.
Also, I had a garbage problem in the beginning of March and AHS sent out a guy who worked very hard, but he was an alarmist and told me I had to dig up my sewer that went to the lateral sewer line. I had someone come out and give me a second opinion more recently, and he said my sewer was fine. It's old but it hasn’t collapsed as the other guy said so. Moreover, many years ago, I needed my ceiling fans fixed. I had to go out of the system and pay on my own. I tried to have AHS reimburse me and they wouldn't, although, part of that could have been my fault. I'm staying with AHS and I keep paying the yearly rate because I have some older appliances that one of these days will die on me, and I'm hoping AHS will cover them.

I had a plumbing issue where my washer drain was clogged in. Submitting the claim was a very good experience. They came in the next day and arrived before the time that they had set up, which I was surprised because they usually show up at 4:45 in a window between 3:00 and 5:00. I talked a little bit about plumbing issues with the contractor and he was very reliable and resourceful. He took care of the problem and unclogged it within half an hour. I haven't had any more problems since the repairs have been made.

I called a local air conditioning company to do a maintenance on my A/C and the person they sent told me that there's water up in my attic and that the Freon in my A/C unit was low which was dangerous. I called AHS and they sent a contractor here who said that the Freon was fine and that the moisture the local person found in the attic was just evaporation from rain from the roof and it was on the wall not on the ground. The contractor took pictures of it and showed it to me. So I was very happy to find out that I didn't need a new air conditioning unit which the local person was trying to sell me. It's certainly worth the extra $125 to know what was going on and not having to buy a new unit. In the long run, it saved me a lot of money and I was pleased with the company AHS sent. It’s been a month and the air conditioner is working fine. I’m so thankful that I’ve got a good company like AHS to back me. I've already recommended them to three neighbors.

He gave me his information and highlighted it for me on the invoice. He wasn't going to be out to our house 'til the day after because he had other calls. It took me nine weeks to get a washer and dryer fixed because American Home Shield sent the dumbest people on the planet out. First of all, they kept telling me the washer was overloaded. I said, "With one bath mat? I guess it's normal for a washer to jump all over the utility room." I complained about that and asked for another company to come. Then I complained again the next week and they kept telling me the same thing over and over. The first contractor couldn't fix the dryer because he kept ordering the wrong parts and wouldn't listen to me. I have a Bosch. A Bosch has a reset switch in it, but he told me that it didn't.
When I complained about them, American Home Shield did absolutely nothing about it except document it in my record. They did not pass it on to anybody or take any action on it when I requested a second party to come out and re-evaluate the washer and dryer. They had already handed it out to a company, and they could do no more for me until it was completed by that company, who in the end never completed it.
I finally got a decent man to come out there only after I gave AHS one on a survey for the vendor and American Home Shield. That somebody from American Home Shield finally called me and took some action on that. And then when I finally got somebody out there, there were two broken shock absorbers in the washer. The man that finally came out there said, "Ma'am, your dryer is fixed in about 30 seconds." And I said, "What did you do?" "I had this reset switch back here." I will never renew with AHS. They are the worst company in the world and they have no customer service. You can't even improve it because there is none that exists.

The contractor that was sent by Home Shield was fine. I went over the problem with him, and he knew what I was talking about. The heater has been working fine since the repair.
I also had a claim for my air conditioning and have been very pleased. AHS sent some people out to check it and once they knew what the problem was, the contractors contacted Home Shield who then called me and told me what my out-of-pocket expenses were going to be and what was going to take place. Everything happened exactly like they said it was going to happen.

I did my claim to American Home Shield online. I submitted the work order for my circuit breaker and a young fella showed up. He said he'd check with his boss about the circuit breaker, but he wanted to get paid without having done anything and I refused to do that. He never came back and never called back. Then I got a bill for the unfinished job and I told AHS I was not going to pay for it since it was not completed. They got a hold of the contractor and chewed their foot out.
The electric company finally called me back and we set everything up. The second guy that came was excellent. We had a safety breaker and he put a regular breaker in there. He knew his stuff and the job was done properly. He was in and out of here in a half hour’s time too. The electric company was not very good, though, and I was upset because they didn't fix the breaker the first time. That aside, the circuit breaker has been fantastic since the second guy's visit. I’m happy now but I wouldn't recommend that electric company.

I had a problem with the air conditioner and the contractors AHS sent were very professional. I'd like to have them every time. However, I'm still waiting on my range and dishwasher to be fixed though, which has taken an extremely long time – two years. The last time a contractor was here for the problem was three weeks ago and I haven't heard back. They kept coming out saying they're going to order parts but I never heard from them. And six months later, I call them back, they sent somebody else out and it was the same old, same old. I'm not happy with that. Other than that, having AHS has been good. Our garage door was not opening properly and it turned out the electronic eye was not aligned properly. We called American Home Shield and they sent out a contractor. It took him a minute and it was fixed. It cost us 75 bucks for that so live and learn. But it was good, everything worked out fine and it's like brand new now. The contractor and his assistant were very nice people and that's the first time we've had them over the house to work on our garage. We had a problem with the garage door before where one of the springs broke and a young man came out and fixed it. It took him 30 minutes to have the whole thing fixed because when you get a broken spring in an automatic garage door, you can't replace one, you have to replace both sides at the same time so it's really expensive.
Sometimes it's hard to file a claim with American Home Shield because you have to talk to a robot and they never know what you're trying to say. So it takes about 15 minutes just to tell the automated teller what you want, they keep asking you questions and it takes forever to get a real person. That's the only downside to dealing with them. More and more of those automated services are coming up and it's poor customer service and you need to talk to a person sometimes to be able to understand what's going on. But with that aside, we're very satisfied and happy with their service. I've also talked with the reps in the past and they're always really nice and willing to help.
Reviewed July 4, 2016
American Home Shield has very poor customer relationships and response times. I'm put on hold for at least 25 to 30 minutes--I almost wonder whether they're wishing I would go away--commonly to talk to anybody and the classic thing is, "Oh, were experiencing incredibly high call volume, right and we just can't talk to you right now. But if you'd like to go to our website which is..." and then they give the website. It starts to get to be a little bit much when you've heard it for the 10th time. What I do is put them on speaker phone and go about my duties for the rest of the day until somebody comes along the line.
They’d eventually come around to give you what you are owed, but you have to really work for it. You have to pay upfront to get somebody to come and agree that something is a problem for them to allow you to get what you're owed and that's very frustrating, especially when you've already had a repair person out there saying, "Yup, the dryer is dead or the washer is dead." And you know it's a covered item. That when they have their person come out which is then a week or two later to say exactly what you've already known, then they want to be the ones that decide what kind of model you're gonna get and they are the ones that provide it which is usually some cock rate discount price.
The last claim that we had was a dryer and they were going to provide a GE dryer which was fine as it was a covered item. However, GE dryers aren't very good, but anyhow they have to do what they have to do. When this GE dryer is gonna be delivered, the delivery person said, "Well, you'll have to take it off the truck." I have a bad back and I can't do that. So then they had to look around for another delivery vehicle and that took another four days. They then finally found another delivery vehicle but they wouldn't deliver GE, so they changed it to a Whirlpool dryer which is more expensive than the GE dryer. They go through all these tirades to save money but in reality they end up spending more money through all these calisthenics that they put themselves through.
Meanwhile, the place we have is a second home and we're not there all the time. We have to coordinate when we're gonna be there so that we can open the place up and have the delivery and the installation done. They can't tell us until the day before when they're gonna be there. The dryer arrived on a Thursday as planned, but it's damaged and dented. The guy that's delivering it said, "well you don't need to accept this. We'll just tell them to send you another one." I asked them when that's gonna be, and they told me two more weeks, and only that they've got an installer. The guy took pictures of the dented dryer, validated it, and authenticated the fact that it is damaged.
I asked them, "well the internal workings of it still work?" He says, "Well, in all likelihood yes." Then we’d have to accept this damaged deal because we're not gonna be out here in two weeks and we've already got an installer come in the following day. We've got all these people lined up to take care of their end of the bargain, and sent us damaged goods. So then I told them to put the dryer in. And while the installer put it in, the guy turned around and said, "Well you owe me $80. But I can try and get that through American Home Shield?" I told him while we paid AHS the $75 initially for the upfront thing which is what in the contract, we also have to pay the initial service charge and I didn't know why we're being charged again for that. He said, "well yeah that's a good point. I'll see what American Home Shield says."
Then another time, they replaced our pool heater that was dead. The pool people came by, started things up in the summer, and confirmed it. So I called American Home Shield as it was a covered item. They said, "well we're not gonna accept the fact that your people say your heater's dead. We have to have our persons come by and tell us that." So that's another two weeks before that person's able to come from Tulsa, Oklahoma, we're in Grand Lake Oklahoma, and that's about a two hour drive. Our pool people is 15 minutes away and they have been servicing ours for 20 years.
Then American Home Shield confirmed the claim and authorized that the pool heater gets replaced. That's what the contract's supposed to do. I told them that I have a pool heater that I can put in little match, everything that they need for this pool stuff that my pool people have. They said, "no, no, you can't use your pool heater, we're gonna send you one." So that's another two weeks. They eventually send the pool heater that is larger than the one we had before. And then to make things even worse, the propane line that went to the previous pool heater which was the normal size for that pool didn't fit.
Now because they sent the wrong pool heater, it had been the courtesy cost to get the propane line fixed. I called AHS a number of times, went back and forth with them instead this is your problem. In fact, their pool guy openly stated they sent a pool heater that's far bigger than what we need and that's the reason why we needed a larger propane line. We then had to incur the cost of a plumber to come out which was another two or three weeks. They wouldn't pay for the plumber nor the new pool propane line.
Prior that, they've placed three toilets. They've done their job, but having to go through to get things done is unbelievable. This place on Grand Lake is about 30 years old and some of the toilets weren't cycling properly. So we had a plumber came by, tried to jury rig and work with them. Finally, he threw his hands up in the air and said, "You need new toilets." We incurred about an $800 water bill with the one had been leaking in the period of one month because we were gone and that toilet continued to run. AHS finally told me that they’ll get me a new toilet, and that was about another three weeks’ worth the work.
Then the other two toilets started to go in the same direction as well. The plumber came by and he agreed that they need to be replaced. But then AHS said, "Oh, we won't listen to your plumber. We have to have our plumber come out.” So again, another week down the road. Finally their plumber's able to come by and he agreed that the toilets didn't work. They’re old toilets and the mechanisms in them didn't even exist more, and he can't fix them anymore as well. AHS need to do two new toilets.
Then AHS told him that they’ve already replaced one toilet there. The guy told AHS that the place is a large facility and these people have six bathrooms in it. The other two toilets are no longer workable and need to be replaced. AHS asked the guy if he has any tpoilet on site. He then drove about 20 miles away to the warehouse, was able to get two toilets and put them in.

I don’t believe in warranties, but when I bought my place, the previous owner had American Home Shield and had two ancient furnaces and two air conditioners dating from the early ‘80s when the place was built. At the time I bought the house 12 years ago, my inspector said the furnace needed to be replaced upstairs. But American Home Shield said they were fine. So I brought my own furnace company that I've had for 25 years. They said the furnace needed to be replaced and so it was done. That made me feel good about American Home Shield so I kept it on.
But I've had lots of difficulties with my air conditioners and furnaces, and American Home Shield doesn't ever replace anything. They try to repair, but for a number of years now, I've had leaks in the Freon. Instead of fixing it, the technicians come and put Freon in. Then American Home Shield changed their policy and they charged me $300 when they put the Freon in. I did that several times, and this has gone on and on. The problem was the technicians came out for my typical spring situation where I needed Freon. They didn’t fix anything, but they put something in which was some sort of leak stop. I waited a while and then I called them back and said that this has been going on 12 years and that they needed to fix my equipment since both air conditioners leaked Freon.
American Home Shield sent somebody out and he checked. His diagnosis was that I needed a new piece of equipment in the upstairs furnace. American Home Shield said they would replace that but there was some additional work that wasn't covered, and that would be $300 in addition to the $75 they charge when they come out. Some years ago, it used to be $55 and then they changed it to $75. The other thing that the technician reported on the second visit was he was sensing leaks out in my ground behind my house where the pipe leads to the air conditioners with the Freon. He was getting leaks inside downstairs near the furnace, and he said there had been digging out there.
In between the technician's two visits, I had a fellow come in and clear out all the growth behind my house and the garage. He may have used it and dug a little bit. But the message I got from American Home Shield was, “We'll fix your upstairs evaporator coil. We'll replace that but it'll cost you $300 and we can't do anything about downstairs because there's been digging. Not covered.” So I had independent people come in to check on what American Home Shield was not covering.
I have not cancelled American Home Shield yet because if the independent contractors find that there's no damage done to the copper pipe and that I only have the usual leaks, then I'll be back to American Home Shield for another contest. I'm very disenchanted with them. When I needed something done and American Home Shield always farms it out to their various contractors. There are no contractors that said anything good about them. They said that I was never going to get anything replaced and that American Home Shield will only keep patching things. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have paid American Home Shield thousands of dollars over the last 12 years. It's been a terrible experience. It was frustrating and not worth the price.

There was no problem during the installation of the garbage disposal. But it took a while to prove that the deductible had already been paid. Once it was done, there was no problem. Then for the sink faucet, we weren't sure what's the difference between a cash out and another term. So AHS processed it as a cash out when in reality, we wanted for them to do the work. What we assumed was a cash out was they would offer us $100 on a $150 unit and all we do is pay them $50. But a cash out for them is they just give $100 and then we're responsible for everything else. It was a terminology problem, but we're okay once we figured it out.

I consider my most recent claim with American Home Shield a disaster, which is unusual for them. My husband doesn’t know how to change a washer in a sink, so I have to have somebody. I had them out for the washing machine around the first part of June, because if I put in a load of clothes in it, it doesn’t spin out again when the washer stops. So I called, and the first company that I dealt with was Accord Appliance, had three visits from them and the same guy came every time. He wasn’t my personal choice, but he got my $100. He set it over on the second spin and it spun out, but he could never get it to do it again, so he replaced the clutch and out he went. This happened again 2x thereafter and the same guy came back out, played with it, got it to spin again, stayed through another cycle, and when it didn’t spin again, he finally said he doesn't know what else to do with it. And out the door he went.
I called AHS and told them to send somebody who understands a Kenmore because the previous guy doesn’t know how to fix my Kenmore washing machine. The AHS rep was really nice and gave me Bear Creek. The guy came and he thinks it is a timer issue. His paperwork says that it could be timer getting stuck on the rinse/spin. In other words, it went all the way through the cycle. He said he'll try to get AHS to put in a new timer and since he has dealt with them before, he doesn't know if they'll do that or not. He said he'd give me a call if they won't okay it and advised me to call AHS to tell them that I want an authorized Kenmore repairman in order to get to this problem because he can't get it tucked up. He called me on a Sunday and told me that AHS will not give me a new timer. Although he can't positively say it's a timer, but in his years of experience, that’s what he thinks.
So I called AHS again and they gave me All City Appliance Repair. They called and the technician was here at 2:00 pm the same day they called. He was very nice and very knowledgeable but it wouldn't do it for him either and out he went. We had some health issues happening here at that time and I told my husband that I've exhausted myself with this now. For the first two and half weeks, I was taking my soaking wet clothes across the street at my neighbor's, washing and drying over there. The last guy showed me how to get the water out. So now I know how to get the water out, but I shouldn’t have to do that. I didn’t know how to handle this. AHS has always said in their ads that they'll either fix it or replace it, and that’s what my husband keeps saying. Where’s the fix it or replace it thing?
I'm not sure though if I really should be replacing it. Everything else seems to be working. It could just easily be the timer. I don’t know if the timer’s the most expensive thing in the washer but the repairman from Bear Creek felt that AHS wasn't going to replace it. I can't get it to go through the spin cycle and get the water completely out of there. I know how to figure that out and do that, but I shouldn’t have to do that. The washing machine should just go through the cycle. If I put the washer on, I shouldn’t have to get out of bed in 45 minutes and put it through another spin cycle. In summary, not all repair service companies are knowledgeable.

I purchased a warranty through AHS and will be shopping for a new company. This is the first time using the service which is a nightmare. I've been waiting for 3 weeks to have my refrigerator repaired. They first sent out a company that was unable to fix it. They then sent out Sears who never look at the refrigerator because they said the note in their computer said it was not under warranty. The repairman attempted to contact AHS who after 15 minutes on hold told me they couldn't help me unless I paid for it. I have spent 3 days trying to get this problem resolve. The main issue is that you will be placed on hold for 45 minutes to an hour. Once you finally get through there's never a supervisor available. Right now, I've given up. AHS continues to tell me they're waiting for a diagnosis from Sears, who never looked at the refrigerator so they couldn't possibly know what the problem was.

I'd recommend American Home Shield. Our air conditioner was not working so we submitted an online claim with them. The contractor had to come out three different times to replace the compressor. They were very courteous, very knowledgeable, and took care of everything that needed to be done. However, we need to call them back because there's still a minor problem. The fan starts running and the compressor doesn’t kick in at the same time as the fan does, and it should be doing that.

I've been in Texas for more than a week without air conditioning put in to my house. It's easy to submit the claim with American Home Shield, but then, it took three days for the contractor to get on the site. And then, they had to come back twice before they realize that the little parts they were placing aren't the issue; it's the compressor. With that, it's going to take me until July to get the part and fix the AC, so it's frustrating.
The contractor has been as responsive as AHS to a great extent allowed, however, I'm not pleased with their initial analysis. As of last Friday, they learned that my compressor needed to be replaced. On Monday, they submitted the approval, and that night, they’re told that they are allowed to order the part. They then ordered the part on Tuesday. There are two angles for how they get it. There is a fast angle which would cost more money and a slow angle which cost less money. They were told to go to the slow road, so rather than having it fixed this week, I'll have it fixed by next week. In that sense, the problem is not the contractor - it's inventory and parts. In fact, the contractors were wearing an insignia and identified themselves. It's a professional company that came to the door so that part was a pleasing experience.
I've called to see what it would cost me to pay somebody to do the work and between the out of pockets and the two fees I paid for the contractor to show up, it would cost me $500 more, which is a substantial 50% savings, however, I'd be able to use two-thirds of my house now. To sum it up, my experience has not been positive.
Hi David, I am sorry for this experience. I can understand that it's frustrating. I will be in touch wtih you soon to assist you. ^CW

Then when the dryer messed up again and I called for service, they refused until I paid that $75 that I had already paid. They charged me twice for that service and I was highly upset about that. Since then, they don't get cash from me anymore. They only get a check. Nonetheless, I would recommend AHS.

I like American Home Shield. I've had them for years and overall, they're good. I do recommend American Home Shield especially to people who are single or don't have a very handy husband. Their home warranty is worth the money. I recently filed a claim with them to have something repaired in my kitchen and it was very easy to do and it's been fine since the repair.
Unfortunately, the first contractor who came out assessed the problem but apparently, could not fix it. They had to send a second contractor and I had to take two different periods off work to get the problem fixed. I had no idea that the first contractor was not able to fix the problem till the second contractor came. Both of the contractors were very professional and nice and appeared to be knowledgeable in what they did. But I did not like the product that the second contractor wanted to install. So he asked me what product I would prefer, and I said, "Let's go to the store," to pick out another product, and so we did and that was fine.
There was a bit of a glitch in the first contract. I paid the first contractor just as my agreement states. When the second contractor came, he was aware that payment has been made. But American Home Shield contacted me to ask for payment and I didn't like that very much because I had already paid. They're investigating the matter.

Initially, we thought it was the soap dispenser that wasn't noticing that it needed to release. So the gentleman replaced the soap dispenser for us and took apart the dishwasher. There were some things caught in the motor which wasn’t allowing it to run properly. He was here probably for about an hour and was very good, professional and helpful in fixing our problem. He was also very clean that nothing was left behind. I felt very comfortable with him being in the house. We're very grateful to have the service because my husband is not a handyman. With a newborn baby and a toddler in the house and temperatures pushing 100+ degrees, our upstairs air conditioning went out. We called American Home Shield since this is under our home warranty, and they contacted us relatively quickly to let us know they are backed up and are providing outside authorization. They provided us a detailed list of criteria we need to meet in order to get the outside authorization. Our HVAC service company met all the criteria and then spent two days trying to get through to American Home Shield as they required.
After finally getting through and providing all the required information, AHS left a message for my contractor the following morning letting him know they decided they wanted a second opinion. By now it had been 5 days without air conditioning in our house. I asked them to expedite this second opinion since this has been going on, and I was denied without any real explanation. The company requested the second opinion on a Friday before a holiday weekend and told me their contractor had until Tuesday (48 business hours) to come perform the inspection. They told me if their contractor couldn't come Tuesday (within their guidelines), then I could call them back and we could find another contractor.
I received a call today from their contractor that they wouldn't be out until Wednesday afternoon/evening, so I called AHS like they told me to, and now they are telling me Wednesday is actually the day that is within their guideline period, despite four different people confirming Tuesday was the day. All of this run-around is only happening in their attempt to save a buck on the cost of replacement of the A/C unit, the majority of which we will be paying out of pocket anyway.
I fully understand this is an insurance policy and they'd prefer not to pay out on it, but the fact that half a dozen representatives have read to me from the same script, all of them unwilling to stop and think critically about what it means for a newborn baby to try to sleep in a home that is 90 degrees, shows me that this is only about the money for them and not at all about the service to the customer. What a terrible disappointment this home warranty has turned out to be.
Hello Keren, I can understand your frustration with this work order. Your feedback is important to us. Per the terms of the contract AHS has the right to request a 2nd opinion at our costs. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Thanks ^CW

We have had a home warranty for years, but are stopping this service after this most recent experience my Mother-in-Law had. She is 79 years old. Her central air conditioning system stopped cooling and we called for an American Home Shield (AHS) Service Request. It should be noted that she lives in Florida and the outside temperature in the day time was 93 degrees when her A/C stopped cooling.
AHS called a local contractor, Burleson's A/C Service from Orlando, FL. It should be noted that AHS has a policy that a local contractor has up to 3 business days to respond to the call. So if you call on a Friday, it can take until the following Wednesday for them to show up. In this case it took two full days. The service rep found that the compressor was seized and said the freon had leaked out. He also told us that in addition to the service call trip charge (by AHS), she would have to buy 10.4 LBS of freon (not the old R22, but the new freon). This amounted to an additional $500.00. The service rep told her that if she paid for the freon that moment, it would speed up the repair. That was our second mistake. She paid the money ($625.00) up front. This was on Tuesday June 14, 2016.
From this point on, we had ZERO calls back from Burleson's or AHS unless we generated the call. All calls to AHS took a minimum of 20 minutes to get a live person. And Burleson's was busy as well and seemed as though they were ducking our repair. We called each day for an update on them "finding the parts". By Friday, June 17, 2016, we still had no word other than Burleson's telling us that their one parts "guy" had things going on in his personal life that kept him from working. This was unacceptable.
I then called around and found a new compressor IN ORLANDO that was available and contacted Burleson's to let them know we had found one. Still no word. At this point, and because we listened to the service rep whom had told us that if we paid for the freon upfront we would get faster service, we were not able to change contractors.
When we asked AHS about changing due to poor service from Burleson's they told us the three business day rule would start ALL OVER again with another company. So we were stuck with Burleson's. On Monday we called again and no word. On Tuesday, June 21st, a full 10 days since we had opened a ticket with AHS, we called Burleson's and they told us they "found the part". BUT, they could not install it until Friday June 24th.
Now a few years ago AHS told us that the elderly were protected in Florida and that services needed to be performed ASAP on residential A/C systems. Seems that went by the wayside. Burleson's had scheduled the service rep to arrive between 8AM and noon on that Friday for the install. Then on Friday am, called and said it would be between 9AM and 1PM. Guess what? The compressor installation guys showed up at nearly 5PM. They were nice installers and did what appeared to be a good job. But they also told us that all of the freon was still in the system (had not leaked out). They then told me that they had to put new freon in as the old was contaminated by the compressor. Sounded good I guess.
But I also recall a service call from Burleson's on our A/C unit and that service rep told us that the reason they charge $55.00 per pound for freon is to repay the feds for environmental issues due to the leaking of the freon. So since none leaked out this time, why charge so much? And AHS only covers $10 per pound charged. I found from other local contractors that they buy the stuff for $3.50 per pound. So the cost of having a "AHS Contract" along with the freon charge and trip charge basically paid for the repair. No savings here. And, AHS does not factor in the Florida heat and where a person can live for nearly two weeks as you cannot live in a house here without AC especially when 79 years old with health issues.
So the displacement costs for her along with the "AHS Contract" cost her the same if she had called a local company to come out and replace her ENTIRE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE SYSTEM. Needless to say why I have written this complaint and plant to upload this message to every network out there that can post a review. Unacceptable service AHS and BURLESON's. Shame on you both for jacking with the elderly.

I placed a claim with American Home Shield in September of last year and it was very convenient, inexpensive and quick. We needed to have our existing air-conditioning system replaced in our home. The condenser, the feed line and the evaporator, the entire system was replaced. They got us a good deal. It's $4,800 until the applied discount, and the installation was great. From the time we started looking and made the arrangements via the American Home Shield website, it was six hours in total, and everything was done within four days. Good local company. It was a very good experience all the way around.
We've had other $75 service calls for maintenance of the heater and the air conditioning system, plumbing issues, leaks, and the contracted services that American Home Shield sends us were always great and very knowledgeable. They answer our questions. They always bring everything to do a full replacement, just in case. For our sink's food disposal for example, we had just a small noise in it but the guy bought a brand new one. It was a $250 food disposal and replaced it at $75. It's awesome.

We cannot reach anyone at AHS to answer an important question about our service request, completed online on a Friday night - the beginning of the weekend. After placing a request online and receiving confirmation details for a service provider with overwhelmingly bad reviews regarding service on yelp who is located nearly 300 miles away, I placed a call to the 24-hour service line. I held for 52 minutes for a representative to answer the line before I gave up and hung up.
A little additional detail - We live in Florida. On July 1 our a/c stopped working, meaning it's hot inside our home. We need a/c addressed on the weekend. The service provider assigned to us does not list weekend hours on website, is located about 300 miles away and receives overwhelmingly bad reviews online for shoddy or incompetent service. I need to speak with someone about securing a competent service provider to address a situation that could be a health hazard during the weekend.
I would be willing to give AHS the benefit of the doubt and give them more time to prove they can resolve a problem when needed, but this is a critical situation. Based on reviews of AHS and my attempt to reach them, my confidence in their service is on the fence at the moment. And I need a solution, I've paid for the warranty for three years. Now that I need help, I have not yet received it. By current appearances, I am not confident that I will.

Our AC went out Sunday afternoon, June 26th. We put in a call to American Home Shield. When we hadn't heard from anyone within 48 hours we attempted to call American Home Shield back. While we were on hold trying to reach them, someone from Total Air Care was actually trying to call through to schedule the appointment and we missed the call. They left a voice mail. When we called back within 5 minutes we were told they were closed for the day. The next morning we were finally able to reach someone from Total Air Care. The earliest appointment they had was for Friday (today). The technician arrived around 11:30 and was here about 15-20 minutes. She determined that there was a pin hole leak and the ac unit needed 2 pounds of Freon. She said she put some leak seal in the system to stop up the leak. She said the ac unit was now running fine and left.
At that point the temperature inside the house was 82 degrees. I set the thermostat on 76 degrees and left the house. When I returned two hours later the temperature was still in the 80s and the air coming out of the vents was only slightly cool. At that point we tried to call the technician back on the phone she had used to call us and confirm her arrival, but her phone was not receiving calls and would not go to voicemail. After being on hold for over a half an hour we finally reached a scheduler for Total Air Care named Tyler. We explained that it had now been almost three hours, the house wasn't cooling down, and asked that the technician be sent back out. He told us that was not possible, and a repair call would have to be rescheduled. Since this was on a Friday (today) before the 4th of July holiday weekend it was unacceptable for us to wait another 4 days to get our AC fixed.
When we asked to speak to a supervisor or manager concerning the issue, we were first told that there was no supervisor or manager there to speak to. When we pressed the issue Tyler admitted that there was a manager there, but that he was too busy to talk to us. When we said this was unacceptable customer service he said he would try and get someone in customer service that we could talk to. We were put on hold. When Tyler returned he said they were all busy and someone would call us back shortly. No one ever called us back. This evening, with the temperature in the house still not going down below 80 degrees, we attempted to contact American Home Shield.
After being on hold for over an hour we finally got a customer service representative. They said there was nothing they could do. We had to submit another request for repair, which would then to forwarded to Total Air Care, who would then schedule us for another repair visit That we might have to pay for!!! When we asked to speak to a manager or supervisor we were told there was no one we could talk to. When we asked if she would make a record of our concern and complaint for someone higher up to review, she said no one would see any notes that she was taking. We insisted she make a record of our complaint anyway. She also took a request for another service call to fix the ac correctly, which she informed us we might be responsible for.
We also called the customer service number for Total Air Care and requested that they call us at the earliest time possible when they open again on Tuesday, since they did not return our call today, so that we can get someone back out to complete the repairs to the ac unit. We have had a home warranty policy with American Home Shield for ten years. Any previous repair work has always been taken care of promptly and correctly. This is the first time that they have sent someone from Total Air Care for service we have requested. Before it was always someone from Piedmont Mechanical, and we never had problems like this with them. I hope we do not have to deal with Total Air Care after we get this mess straightened out, or we may need to find another home warranty company with better customer service.
Updated on 7/5/2016: I posted a review over the weekend of the experience I am going through trying to get my AC fixed through my American Home Shield warranty with a company they use - Total Air Care. The review was apparently posted or sent to American Home Shield. Yesterday morning I received a reply from American Home Shield. "Hello Bill, I am sorry to hear about this situation regarding your services. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that our customers may have. Thanks, DB."
I immediately replied privately to DB requesting help resolving the situation, since he/she asked for the chance to resolve the issue. Twenty-four hours later I still haven't heard back from DB about what we need to do to resolve the situation and get our AC fixed. In the meantime I called Total Air Care first thing this morning, rather than wait for them to get back to me, to see if they had received the referral from American Home Shield to come back out to fix the problem they failed to fix correctly the first time. I was told they could have someone come out in two days (on Thursday). I explained this was unacceptable because they failed to fix the problem last week and we would be almost another week without AC by then.
I requested to speak to a manager or supervisor. I was put on hold. After 20 minutes on hold I was disconnected. Since hold times for Total Air Care have been between 30 minutes and an hour each time we have tried to contact them I am now trying to call American Home Shield for help getting Total Air Care out earlier than Thursday. Hold time for American Home Shield has been similar to Total Air Care. I am on hold now with American Home Shield trying to get the assistance that DB offered but has failed to follow through on.

It’d be nice to streamline someone that’s not a provider currently, though. I had two things done by American Home Shield. One was an issue with my pool pump that broke. It wasn’t as smooth as the transaction before because the local pool place that I wanted to use was not one of their preferred people. I had to pay for everything out-of-pocket first and wait. There was a little confusion on what needed to be submitted to get reimbursed. It was a little bit above the ordeal, but it's not terrible. I’d recommend AHS. The cost benefit is of having them is definitely there. If I didn't have them, I'll pay a lot more money out-of-pocket with the issues they cover. That’s why I continue to keep AHS.

The prior owner of our house had American Home Shield and he said he was very pleased with their service, so when we bought the house, he converted his plan over to us. I have submitted a claim via phone, and the AHS rep was very professional. She took the information down and what the problem was, gave me a timeframe for when the people would be getting in contact with me, and followed up afterward to make sure that they had contacted me and the problem was resolved. It was very good.
The gentlemen who came out for the repair were very professional. They came in and did their job. They explained what they were doing, what they found wrong and what they were going to do to repair it. One of them was a repair on the refrigerator and they had to get a part so one of the gentlemen had to come back the next day. He was here promptly in the timeframe that he said, he repaired the problem and we were done. Our experience with AHS has been quick and efficient.

My husband and I have been very pleased with American Home Shield. We've always gotten quick responses and not had any problem when we called. One of the things I've liked is they cover so much like electrical systems and refrigerator compressor problems. I usually call them to submit claims. Everything I've called them about, they have sent somebody out as soon as possible and it's not been a problem.
American Home Shield sent someone out promptly in my most recent claim for an electrical repairing and we got it done. It had to do with wired smoke alarms that start going off in the middle of the night. They got somebody out later in the next day who repaired them and tell me and show me some things needed to be done. The contractor was very knowledgeable and professional. The alarms worked since the repair and I didn’t have any problems. I would recommend American Home Shield and I have already recommended them to a sister as a matter of fact.

I submitted a claim on my dryer to AHS online. They are quick and easy to get a hold of, and the appointments remain pretty quick, too. However, the contractor that they sent needs to have better time management. He came over late and then figured out that there was a part that needed to be ordered. The part was ordered and then he said he would come that Friday. He never came and never called. So then I called and that following Monday, he called and apologized that he had a family emergency. And then when he finally came over, it only took him literally 20 minutes to put it together. He could’ve just come over like he said, and it would have been done. But I had to wait an extra week for a part in my dryer to be fixed.

Tell me they will pay only for the air conditioner compressor which I agreed even though I was replacing entire system. Came to an amount they said their guy could do it for since they wanted me to wait for 2 weeks for him to look at. I'm in SC... 99 degrees and humid. I opted to get my own guy so I wouldn't die. They approved my outside hvac guy but said they would only pay their cost of a guy to come fix compressor only. Got a check today for $4. Send receipts 3 times. This place should not be in business. I waited so long each time for someone to answer phone so I clicked that I was a realtor button and guess what... they picked up immediately but hung me up when they found out I was just a person looking for my reimbursement.

My a/c just quit working in the middle of the night so I placed a service call with AHS. The AHS contractor couldn't come out until the next day and I couldn't allow my family to sleep in sweat so I called another contractor out who came within 30 minutes. Paid him $100 to tell me that my compressor was out, he said they "might be able to get me back up and running again by 2am if I paid an after-hours warehouse fee and the $1400 - $3900 it would cost to replace the unit depending on the warranty status. Who has $4k laying around, right? So we waited to see what the AHS contractor had to say and sure enough, he confirmed what I already knew. Here's the kicker... he said he wouldn't be able to fix it until maybe the following Wed. This is Friday which means I would have to wait 5 days in the South Texas scorching heat.
So here I am with the holiday weekend in front of me and a 95-degree indoor temperature. I'm out $175 so far and trying to decide if I want to cancel AHS and put that $80/month payment in the bank and just handle my own repairs that can get completed within a reasonable time or wait for them to come out on Wednesday and take the chance of them "deciding" that the whole thing was improperly installed to begin with so they aren't going to pay a dime. American Home Shield does not take care of their customers. They keep you on hold for over an hour just to upset you with the bad news that there's really nothing they can do. I'm very disappointed and will be canceling my service unless they can get my AC fixed within the next 24 hours.
Hi Stephen, I am sorry to hear about this experience and I appreciate your feedback. When the cost of repairs exceeded the amount of copay the AHS came up with ridiculous reason to refuse the service - claimed that the HVAC ducts were intentionally broken (and also that they covered in asbestos, which was promptly removed by a company I hired within a few days of the notice from AHS). After I explained that the HVAC compartment was always locked and inaccessible for others and that I certainly wouldn't benefit from breaking it myself, the AHS changed their stance and claimed that the ducts are completely inaccessible for the repairs contradicting with their first statement.
After that I called AHS and argued that it does have access to be repaired. Then the AHS changed their mind again back to original claiming it was intentionally damaged. By the way, the statements I got directly from the repairmen do not claim that the ducts were intentionally damaged. Visually the ducts do not appear damaged, just disconnected due to improper installation - absence of any required fasteners (which is a covered reason).
On top of that, when I call AHS it takes between 30 minutes to well over an hour to wait on hold to reach a representative to check the repair status or discuss the situation and the representatives are not helpful. It's been over a month. AHS collected their $75 copay fees. I spent countless hours on the phone calling AHS and no repairs were done at all while it is blazing hot in southern California.

I contacted American Home Shield about our tenants defective A/C unit. The waiting time for each call is at least 30 min. Yesterday more than 1 hr waiting time, today 45 min wait... This was my fifth call to try to close the issue and I have spent more time waiting than getting the problem resolved. When I finally got an agent the service request was sent out and the service company (Three Brothers) came out the following day. Within 24hrs, per contract terms. Unfortunately in Houston heat that meant one night with really bad sleep of course...
The quote for repair came up to $1100 for out-of-pocket costs. Work to upgrade to code (drain lines, flood switch, drain lines even for a unit that is only 8 years old) is not covered nor is the main part of $40/lb for 14 lb of freon. AHS would only cover the coil replacement and $10 per lb for freon. I am unhappy with the service especially the horrendous waiting time on the phone and will probably not renew my contract with them. At this point I would not recommend them.

Another call 6/10 on hold for 66 minutes, call again 6/20 and was on hold 57 min., call again 6/22 for another 59 min. on hold. Long story short AHS has been giving me the runaround. The compressor has failed in my heat pump and the heat pump needs replaced. I had the technician come out that they recommended and he could not figure out the issue. Nice guy, but just could not find the problem. I told him I had another company already come out and found the compressor was bad and the heat pump needed replaced because they do not make that compressor anymore and R22 is not a viable option.
AHS requested a second option. I called back several times and they could not find someone to service my heat pump. They suggested I get my own contractor to come in and take a look. I did have a contractor come out and they said the same thing...THE HEAT PUMP NEEDS REPLACED... AHS did not like this and sent out the original technician they sent out. The technician agreed with the company that I had come out and said all the readings point to the compressor valves. AHS will not do anything according to him.
I am currently on hold with AHS and have been for 1 hour and 15 min. so far. I told AHS that the company I had come on site charged me 79.00 and they told me that they would not pay because the technician did not call them. Who has time to sit on hold with a company for this long? I just got disconnected after being on hold for 1 hour and 16 min. I am not on hold again. Next call at 9 am 7/1 will be to the corporate office and if that gets nothing done my next call with be to an attorney. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

I had a little problem last year with the air conditioner, and that was at the height of the summer. The provider got in contact with me within 24 hours as specified in American Home Shield’s policy, but they didn’t have anybody available for nearly two weeks. Once the provider came out, they were able to fix it quickly. I have recommended American Home Shield to people. I've also talked to providers that have dealt with more than one such company and they tell me that American Home Shield was the only one that was really reliable.
I've had them come out a lot of times through the years and they have always repaired or replaced the things. There was a process involved in replacements and that takes a certain amount of time as they’ll have a second provider come by to verify and get a second opinion on it. One time there was an issue with the refrigerator, it had been misidentified. They had as about 20% smaller box and they wanted to replace it with what they thought was a comparable one, and I told them that it's not the correct one. They explained and I came in and read the model number off of the old box and they said, “Oh well, we had it as the wrong size.” They got it corrected and the replacement went smoothly.

The transaction beyond that became very easy. Then we had an issue with our washer and we called them in. The claims process was a smooth experience and we had great service. We’ve gone back and forth quite a bit with American Home Shield. When we call, make appointments, and when they get someone out there, they were great. But with their coverage, they have decreased things so much and we are not happy with that. When we first started with them 12 years ago, the coverage was amazing. We’re now at a point where we almost think that American Home Shield is not worth what we’re paying because of what we have to pay to fix the things when their technicians come out given what AHS doesn't cover.
It’s been the last several years that we noticed this. The price and the deductible keep going up. They’ve raised our price but we’ve not changed the package we have which is the max thing, however, it covers us less. An example is a coolant for our air conditioner. They used to cover the majority of that. But the last time AHS sent technicians out, we had to pay $500 out of pocket for that because AHS didn't cover the coolant being added to it. For what we’re paying yearly, it doesn’t make sense ‘cause we’re also having to also pay their deductible. We’ve been on the look for someone else to go with because of this change. But as far as the people that AHS contract and work with, we have absolutely no complaints. They have been wonderful.

I had an issue with my microwave/oven combo unit and the microwave part of the unit will not work. The display on the unit works fine but the microwave keeps on giving the message "Door" upon pressing the start button. Upon some research, it looked like the door sensor(s) (it have 3 sensors) is malfunctioning. I did open a service request with AHS few months ago. The contractor showed up and told me that this is a 2 person job and he is authorized for only one person. He never worked on the unit, collected the 75$ visiting fee and left. Upon checking the website for the service status, it kept on saying In-Process for few weeks.
I called AHS and they gave me an explanation that they are still awaiting for some response from the contractor. Couple of weeks later, the service order was closed. Upon multiple communication with AHS, they told me that the contractor is saying that the circuit board stopped working due to the power surge and power surges are not covered under my AHS contract. I did explain the situation to the customer rep and they issued me a 75$ credit on my account (they refer this as a coupon). The did send another contractor with same experience - Contractor mentioned that it is two person's job and he wont work without per-authorization. AHS closed the case one more time.
I did follow up with AHS One more time on last saturday (24-jun-16) and the AHS rep scheduled another appointment with Sears and assured me that I will not be charged for the 75$ fee. I got an appointment for tuesday (28-Jun) and A&E technician showed up. He demanded for 75$ upfront and when I showed him my AHS email with 0$ fee, he refused to budge and left the house.
I called AHS again and they scheduled Sears/A&E again for today 30-Jun. The A&E guy showed up and said that there is no issue with the circuit board (as other part of the unit works, along with the clock, oven etc) and that the door switch is bad. When he tried to get an approval for the work from AHS, it got denied. The AHS Customer Rep said that it is denied as it is not covered under warranty. I explained the situation and history to him one more time and he said that he does not see such information in the system and will have to check with his supervisor.
The issue here is: AHS using sub-par contractors who are out for the money and not to fix the issue. AHS can not coordinate with its subcontractors. Every time some one shows up, gives some excuse and leave the property without fixing (and many time even without looking at the issue) the problem. Every time that happens, the homeowner has to figure out a way to be available at home for the next visit. AHS customer service is a joke - each time I have tried calling them, the wait time is at least 50 minutes or more.
AHS system issue/ Customer Service training issue? - As a home owner I had to explain the situation every time I talk to someone. They first refuse to believe the information I was providing such as the 75$ coupon etc. Every time I asked the customer service person to get hold of the manager so that customer's concerns are heard, the response is always that they are busy and that they will get back to me in "few" hours - Which never happened!
After all this back and forth, I am still awaiting for AHS to provide me an update on the next step. When I bought the protection plan about a year ago, I was expecting adequate support from AHS. Unfortunately, it looks like they are looking for a reason how to deny the service when their customer needed it the most. Stay away from AHS!

The number is designed for service but it doesn’t seem to have smooth link to someone in sales so it took a little while on two occasions when I tried to contact them to inquire about upgrading.

I’ve had American Home Shield on one of my properties for 14 years. I’ve got it on a couple of rental properties too for about seven years. I’ve really enjoyed it. Everything is detailed out in the contract and it’s been great. The last work order that I did have on them was about three weeks ago. It was on my pool equipment. The pool pump and pool sweep motor were leaking. I called AHS and they sent a technician out. It took a little while for the technician to call in the diagnosis because it was peak season.
I understand that American Home Shield is nationwide and everybody’s air conditioner was going out, plus they have other problems. It took them a little while to get into the authorization department to it get approved. They were able to do it and they replaced my pool pump. That type of pump isn't made anymore so they gave me a better brand. All in all, the overall cost would have been about $1,500 for both of those but I paid $75 so I’m very happy with it.
I was previously without a home warranty to help me out. Before, I went through the phone books to find somebody. If I had a problem like with the air conditioner going out or not cooling properly, I would call somebody up. If they were busy then they’d say, “Well, it’ll be next Tuesday or next Friday before I can get out.” If I tell them I needed somebody sooner, they'd tell me straight up to call somebody else. But with American Home Shield, I like the fact that I have one number to call and they have a timeline that they have to have the technicians out to the home. It could be no more than 24 to 48 hours on it. I get faster service, plus the fact they send me an email with the name and number of the company. I can go ahead and call the company to schedule my appointment. I don’t have to wait until somebody calls me. It's unlike before where I talk to a secretary who doesn't know when the technician is going to be out.
Also with American Home Shield, I know what I have to pay. Even if there are any extra costs on any kind of modifications, I'm still getting something brand new. I recommend American Home Shield to all my family members. My kids have grown and bought their own house. I pushed the home warranty on them because I know that it saved me. It's stupid for a homeowner not to have some kind of warranty.

I submitted a claim online about my dishwasher that had quit working. AHS had someone call me within just a few hours. The contractor came and evaluated it. He told me that more than likely, American Home Shield would not fix it because the unit was old and would suggest a replacement. He put his information in and within maybe a couple of days, somebody from AHS contacted me and said that they were not able to repair it but would want to replace it and they’d need a list of possible replacements. I went online and picked the one I wanted and contacted them. AHS said they would arrange for that and the company that would be delivering it would contact me.
American Home Shield has been excellent. The company that was supposed to deliver it, however, did not contact me. All of a sudden, at 6 o’clock on the night before, I got a telephone message that they were coming the next day. I got in touch with AHS and they got in touch with the delivery company. The next day, the delivery company wouldn’t take any phone calls and were supposed to contact me before 5:00 on the day before the delivery and arrange delivery. They did not. I arranged to have someone here for the delivery, and when they got here they just said they were supposed to deliver and dropped it and left and didn’t set it up.
As soon as I found out I was on the phone again with AHS and they were immediately on the phone with the delivery company. AHS and I were not happy with the delivery company. They said that we refused for them to do the setup, which is a lie. AHS had someone out there the next morning immediately and he installed it and took care of everything just as quickly as he could and everything’s been perfect since then.
We have AHS for 10 years and have never had a problem with them. It’s a very good deal. When we need it, it’s there, because the house is 50 years old and I am sure it’s not going to be long until some of the bigger things start going. The warranty has paid for itself and it’s cheaper than calling someone just out of the blue, to call AHS and let them find a technician. And if it’s not done right, they will take care of it for us. I do not have to worry about that.

The pool pump had to be replaced and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online. The process was easy and they normally call within the same day or the next day. They've provided good customer service and the contractor they sent seem knowledgeable, but they don't go above and beyond besides replacing what's immediately broken. All they did was replace the pool pump and did not look at other possible things that were causing it to break. It works for a while, but it did eventually go out again. So I have to call them again and they've come out for the third time in two years to replace it.

I had a plumbing problem where a galvanized pipe under my house was ready to burst. I've already replaced the one coming into my house and it cost a good bit of money. Then when I got American Home Shield, I thought that they cover things like plumbing. I thought that just meant hot water heater or dishwasher, but when I checked into it, they do the piping, so I called them out to check the pipes but that has never happened yet. They've been going back and forth. Finally, I called and got the plumber to come back out but he didn't do anything because they're still questioning that $100 from when I paid the first time. Then I was told that coming back out, they would waive that $100 fee. It's in the notes on the computer under my name because I remember hearing whoever it was I talked with, I heard him typing. I don't have a rate yet because I haven't gotten my estimate or anything from AHS.

To date we have been relatively satisfied with our experience as an AHS customer, however our most recent experience has changed my mind entirely on the company and contract. We had a broken dishwasher several months ago and had a repairman out to fix it after paying two service charge fees of $75, which was expected. When it was still not fixed, I called AHS to have the gentleman come out and fix it one more time and they offered to waive my charge. Fast forward 5 months, we have an issue with our stove and I go to place a service order only to find that I have a past due charge on my account, that has accrued interest, and I cannot place a service request until resolved. I have spent the past 3 days on hold for over an hour each day attempting to reach a Customer Service representative to no avail. Good luck getting through to anyone at AHS if you actually need their service! Would not recommend.

They ended up replacing the unit because our compressor went out, and American Home Shield only pays a certain amount towards replacement freon and it was gonna cost us a lot of money. Also, our system used an older type of freon, so we ended up going with a new heating/air unit, but American Home Shield didn’t pay a dime.

We had AHS for over two years. All is well if they don't assign a company called "GREENWAY HOME SERVICES, LLC." We suspect this company own or have strong handle on AHS. We had three extremely bad experiences in the past with this company and complained to AHS but absolutely to no avail. This company has the ability to fake expensive charges that AHS do not cover. AHS will assign Greenway on all service requests that deal with AC, water heaters, appliances, etc. The customer has no right to refuse this company and request another one!
Today we tried to place a service request and we faced the same problem. We insisted to have somebody else to deal with our request. It took more than 30 minutes on hold on the phone to speak to an associate who refused to assign another company. We requested to speak to customer service and this took another 30 minutes on hold just to hear the same refusal to assign another company. We asked to speak to somebody who has authority and the lady was even more rude and said there is nobody we can talk to!
We advise people who have contract with AHS to check the credibility of their service and their suspicious relationship with Greenway. We are going to give one-star rating because they deserve much lower rating but unfortunately there is no way to assign lower than this rating. We are going to cancel our contract and seek another warranty company (they are plentiful in the market) and have better reviews.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. It gives me peace of mind as a homeower that it will protect me from catastrophes that I'm not prepared for when it's covered. I put in a request online for my garage door opener and it's very easy. I got a message and a call from the contractor within 24 hours. It turned out that I didn't have an issue.
I heard the noise again as Mark, who was with the contractor, was leaving. He double checked something and tightened a part. I appreciate him being patient and not brushing me off as crazy, and saying it was just something simple. I told him, "I know you're gonna think I'm crazy but it sounds like the thing is gonna fall apart. My husband has used a whole can of silicone. There is something wrong. How do I know?" He took extra time and he attended to my concerns like how will I know if the garage door was going because my house is 15 years old. We went through it together and he demonstrated it. I have some friends that have nightmare stories about the service contractors in this area but I do not, so I'm very happy with the contractors that American Home Shield uses. They've all been very nice and answered any extra questions I have.

American Home Shield recently came out and the contractor was awesome. I had a plumbing issue and a running plummet. The plumbing issue was running my water bill up extremely high. I called in and I used the automated system in the beginning and made my appointment but no one had called me in three days, so I called back and spoke to a customer service rep, who said that she didn't know why the claim didn't go over to their provider, so she re-sent it. Then I called and waited about three hours. Since I haven't heard from the provider, I called them, they researched the claim, and saw it. Then I was told someone will be out the next day and I was given the time frame.
The contractor showed up on time, was professional, and did a great job. He had to dig a few feet in the ground and go where the pipe was. Then, he showed my husband and myself the meter and it was no longer spinning, so the repair worked. He told us what happened in the repair. Our line was apparently cut by the neighbors who already called out for their plumbing years ago and that he just had to repair that. He took care of everything that he was supposed to do and was out of our house within two hours.
I like the fact that when I put my claim in, AHS was concerned about it and they made sure that they sent someone out. Then when they said they sent the claim over, they did exactly what they said. I don't know if I trust the automated system anymore but I appreciate their customer service as the rep took care of it. And when she took care of it, everything worked out fine.

Come to find out, they had to order a new water heater and it took about a week, which was a problem. AHS needed to let us know that they were ordering so that the renters weren't sitting there without a water heater for a week.
When we got back to American Home Shield to complain, they were unaware that all this occurred. They should check and see that customers are getting a faster response from the company they refer us to. With the water heater, there was nothing they could do since it was already at the ordering stage. We were stuck in the middle. The contractors showed up five days later and it’s been good afterward. We filed a claim to American Home Shield about the icemaker on the refrigerator, and the technician was absolutely outstanding. The refrigerator icemaker is working very well now considering that it is already 11 years old, so we're very happy with that. In the same day but on a different claim, I had parts falling off of my microwave. The same technician looked at it. He said he'll ask AHS to replace it and AHS agreed to that, and the new microwave has been installed. However, it took an inordinate amount of time from the time that we made the claim to replace the microwave until it arrived and was installed. But once it arrived it's been fine. Their technician was very friendly, quiet, knowledgeable, cooperative and easy to work with.
I usually submit my claims via the phone because I like to get a person to talk to. The only bad experience I had with AHS was about my broken fan blades. I called AHS to see what could be done. They sent a technician that was very rude. He said fan blades don’t break off of the fans before he even looked at it and that he can't fix it because we didn't save all the parts. He was asked by my wife to take a look but he didn’t want to so my wife kicked him out the door. He thought she was lying. That was a very bad experience and I almost quit AHS after that. But any other time that I have called on them under my contract, I've been very, very pleased.

We’ve always had a good experience with American Home Shield. Having an extra insurance is really better because on our first house our air-conditioning unit went out. Without AHS, we would have been out of a whole lot of money that we couldn’t afford to pay for a whole new unit. We’re going to be in bad shape if we don’t have it so it’s not worth not having them. In these homes, there are a lot of things that go wrong and break down.
Not long ago, we had to replace our washing machine. They came out and looked at it. They discovered they didn’t even make the part for the washing machine we had, so they replaced it with a new one. We also have so much problems with our upstairs air-conditioning that every summer it wouldn’t cool up there and every time, they would come out until eventually it took them about 4-5 years. Eventually they found out what the problem was and we haven’t had that problem anymore. We’ve been with AHS for 27 years and we’ve never thought about getting rid of it, not as long as we own a home. We have a policy with American Home Shield, and have tried to use it to cover our pool equipment. We already have a service take care of our pool weekly, and they saw that there was a crack in the water filter, allowing water to spew out of the side of it continuously. They quoted $1400 to replace it, so we contacted AHS to see how we were covered. They wouldn't use our pool company's diagnosis, and said that we had to schedule an appt. with their contractor, and pay them $75 to get a diagnosis. We called, but they hadn't received our "case number" yet, so they couldn't schedule an appt. They asked us to call them back in 24 hours. Another day went by and we called back... they still hadn't received our dispatch number... and our filter is continuing to spew water.
We had to throw in the towel and just have our pool company order a replacement. We had no idea how much of the filter would be covered, because it's not specified at all in the paperwork from AHS... so whatever they told us we would have to believe. Between the filter leaking large sums of water, the $75 service fee, the time it was taking for anyone to even get the dispatch number, let alone who up to diagnose the issue (that we already had diagnosed) and the lack of specification around what would even be covered, it made more sense to just get it fixed. WILL NEVER BUY THIS COVERAGE AGAIN!!! It would've been much better off just saving my $1k to put towards the new pool filter.

How on earth would I know that! Then he left saying he will come back after the motor cools down. Next day, he came back and said the Freon is low and I need to pay from my pocket to add Freon. I asked him why the coolant is low and if there is a leak; he just turned around and said rudely "you talk to the warranty company man" and left. I tried contacting AHS; after 45 minutes wait, I was able to talk to the rep and appraise her of the situation. She said I did the right thing by asking about the leak and then calling them about this issue. She asked if it's ok for the same company to come back and do the work. I said it's ok as long as I don't see the exact same rude technician.
A week passed; nothing happened. I checked the website and it was updated as completed. I called customer service again; after 48 minutes wait, was able to get through, explained the situation, she put me on hold indicating she will review the notes and get back, after a few minutes, call got disconnected! Looks like back to square one. Trying to call them again and on hold for about 15 minutes... Will update once the service request is actually completed.

The contractor came out and evaluated the problem but did not have time to actually complete the repair. After waiting 5 days for the contractor to call in for a authorization, I was finally given a approval for the repair, only to have to wait an additional week to be scheduled. My appointment was today, but it's raining and I have been rescheduled for another week. The contractor is offering to come out and charge the unit tomorrow until the line can be repaired but they could have offered that on the 17th... or the technician who came today could have done it, but instead I am consonantly inconvenienced.
I spend 72 minutes holding on the line for American Home Shield, only for the rep to call the company back and get the same information that I already had, I could not speak to a supervisor, I could not speak to her Manager- everything is a call back in 24-48 hours. I am not only receiving horrible customer service from D&T heating and cooling. I am also receiving the worst service from American Home Shield! The customer service representative was unknowledgeable- she offered me a cash out to have the repairs completed myself. I asked for the amount - and the response is - "I will have to email that department and this may delay or cancel the appointment you have next week. Then they will get back to you in 24-48 hours with a cashout offer..."
This is TRULY insane. This has been the WORST experience. I have had no air for over a month, and I have a small asthmatic child who is having trouble in the HOT house. I have no options. I now must sit and wait another week and hope that the weather allows them to make the repair next week. My home warranty company certainly did not advocate for me! There is NO way this should have taken 30 DAYS!!! AND IT'S STILL NOT FIXED!

I called AHS and they gave me the name of the contractor but I'm not happy with their rating so I contacted AHS yesterday to see if I could be changed to someone else. I asked for someone specifically but they don’t work with that company, so I'll just wait to see if this company would contact me. If they don’t, then I'll contact who I need to.
If I have an issue with AHS people, I let them know and they get it taken care of or I'll write a letter to make sure that it is taken care of. AHS has been fair in dealing with me. Previously, I had a claim on a microwave issue but AHS ended up letting the contractor go because they came and got my service deposit but never ever took my calls. They never came back to do work, or ordered the parts that they needed through AHS and didn't submit the information correctly. Overall, their customer service is okay but telephone wait time is too long.

I called American Home Shield because my air conditioner went out. They previously serviced a combination furnace air conditioner. It's a piece that runs the air-conditioner and runs the furnace. They fixed the blower but the air conditioner is not working now so they're coming here. Submitting a claim has been okay. It took a long time for a rep to come on the phone but other than that it was fine.
The contractor for a previous claim of mine called to let me know that they were gonna be late. They called when they were two minutes away. He fixed whatever the problem was and came back a second time for it to get some parts. Everything was working when they left. However, there was some confusion that I thought they had cancelled the service provider but they didn't because they still showed up.

The process of submitting a claim with American Home Shield, either online or through phone call, works well. I've had good experience if I had to talk to their customer service person. I had somebody look at the air conditioner and it worked out fine. I also had a person out to do the heater on the spa on the pool during wintertime.
The contractors are good 99% of the time. They’ve been able to fix everything so it was satisfactory. I never had any follow-up problems in the cases when we had them work on something. There was one contractor who couldn't do what needed to be done and AHS arranged for somebody else. They would never send that contractor to me again. We've been working with AHS for a number of years so we've been happy with them. Year to year price changes haven’t been too dramatic or drastic so they have been reasonable from when we started.

I had an issue with some part of my heating system and American Home Shield couldn’t get anybody out to the location. I had to make numerous phone calls and they didn’t bother to tell me. It was almost three days and they finally said, “Well, you get somebody out there and have them give you an estimate and have them call us and then we will approve or disapprove.” That’s a little tough to do when we’re talking about outside help to ask them if they’ll pay for it. It turned out that the people that I did get to fix it had dealt with them before and had no problem. They fixed it and said that the AHS representative paid the bill.
However, it was a month down the line by the time they got any stuff done. I would call after 24 hours and say that I haven’t heard anything. Then they said that they told me it could be 48. They should have called us If they can’t find anybody, and we’ll get somebody else out there faster than 48 hours. Also, we would have to wait a long time to get them to answer their phones. But they eventually paid it once I got a little angry. I got somebody else on the phone and they started to explain things better. I’ve got three contracts with them, and this was the first contract I had to use. I’m still with them six months later so I can’t be that disappointed. They paid the claim so I’ll let it go, but they were not easy to deal with.

We had an outage so I filed an electrical claim with American Home Shield and some electricians came. I spoke to a rep over the phone and she got the claim through. She was thorough and knowledgeable as to what I needed. The electricians showed up about four days later and were absolutely awesome. They had to come out twice since they didn’t get it the first time, but they eventually got it. Their company is always timely, they call, and they are knowledgeable.
In addition,My only bad experience is that the plumbing company that AHS uses in my area does not always work with us. They are the only vendor for my area which then causes an issue because we cannot have a second opinion on the plumbing side. It gets problematic if we're not in agreement with their verdict. So AHS should have more vendors on the plumbing side of the house than what they have now.

The home we purchased came included with this warranty company. We had an issue with our heat pump package unit and called them to have someone out to look at it. First time they came around it was diagnosed with a bad compressor. Second time they came out it was diagnosed with parts going bad and supposedly parts missing. The unit was working without them before hand and would have continued to do so afterwards. The amount to replace the parts amounted to $1,300. I refused to put that money into a 16 year old unit that has a phased out refrigerant with high energy consumption.
I told American Home Shield that it was illogical to put this kind of money into the unit and that the more logical thing was to replace the whole unit. They did not want to do that and the cash out process took weeks to complete with the lady on the phone not knowing exactly how to go about it. The only reason I have them is because they are free, but I definitely don't plan on keeping them after the year. I replaced my package unit myself (oh yeah did I mention that I also do this for a living) and with the cash out money I still ended up paying about $2k. Which is not bad for a 4 1/2 ton package unit on roof.
Final Thoughts: Customer service wasn't very well trained. They lacked the knowledge to get me to the right departments and to really understand the needs of the home. They do not care for the lies of the vendors they use even though they impact the customer greatly. Their logic is disappointing. No one wants to put $1,300 into a 16 year old unit just to have it go bad in the following years. Would not recommend to friends and family.

They thought maybe they hadn't, and they hadn't, but they didn't come back. Also, it was raining when they came out and one of the problems was that the pump was leaking. One of them said in the rain he couldn't tell if it was leaking so he would come back. However, in about 10 days he also didn't come back. We must have called 20 times but there was no answer from their phone. Then we called AHS and talked to them twice about it but nothing was ever done. I am so frustrated with this company. Our refrigerator kept freezing everything and we called them to fix it. They came out and had to order a part so we had to wait. They came back and supposedly fixed it, but it kept freezing everything. Eggs, mustard, etc. We called them back they supposedly fixed it again and it still kept freezing items that wasn't suppose to be frozen. We just dealt with it. Well, it finally went out. We called on a Monday and they said no one can come until Saturday. I called back to see if someone could come sooner. It was changed to Friday. Yay! I was trying to update my payment information online but forgot my password. I hit the forgot password and enter my email. It said my email isn't a registered email, but when I call that's the email they have on file and the email I receive emails from them.
Yesterday, the guy said it was a glitch and I should log off and back on. I did, it still did not work. I tried today and it still did not work. I called them and the recording said I would have to wait 10 minutes. I waited 35-40 minutes. When I told the new guy what was happening, he said it was a glitch and people have been calling in. I said, "If people have been calling in then the glitch should have been fixed." I have been waiting on this phone for 35-40 minutes for the same issue and he hung up on me. Whatever happened to good customer service.
I'm too tired to call back or I would call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. I'm just going to pray they can fix or replace my refrigerator Friday and we won't have to wait any longer than we already have and that the person who comes provides better customer service. Update: the refrigerator is still not fixed. They had to order a part so now we have to wait until Tuesday, that's if the part comes Monday. How many times and how much money will they spend before replacing an item. You would like it would be cheaper to just replace. My food spoiled and I can't go shopping until the refrigerator gets fixed. Very frustrating!

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy. I could make a phone call and put in a request and they assigned a contractor, and the contractor was to call me back. And typically, they don't call right away so I'd call them. I keep a log in my notebook of when I call and the response time and who I used, and whether I'm satisfied or not because I often have more than one plumbing problems in different times during the year, and some of the plumbers have been good and some were not.
So I had a plumbing claim and when I called them on my faucets on April 26th, 2016, they sent somebody out within a day and that was lovely. The problem was he never got back to fix it until June 24th, 10:00 AM. The contractor that was sent was very professional and I thought he was good, as well as their office. What I don't understand is why it took them so long to come back and resolve it. So they're not always the best in terms of response time. They might be very responsive at first that they come out and they need a part or they need something else. Then I got put on and taken off the schedule, and it got a little messy. That's quite a long time for repairing a washer. I knew that the contractor tried to schedule and American Home Shield doesn't circle back and ask for satisfaction. I'd call and I make it known to them and they'd take it down.
Most of what I call for are things that typical homeowners may know how to do - fixing washers in tubs and stopping leaks. That way, I thought it's costly, but I'm a single homeowner and didn't have the skills for any of it. However, the performance has been fine since the repair and I have not had any issue with it. I've had them for several years and I'd say they were okay overall. What I tend to find is that they are using contractors that may not be the best and a little substandard. It'd also be nice to have a loopback from them, even if it's an email like "Were you happy? Were you not?" That kind of a thing. I always hate having to call and say, "I wasn't happy."

My most recent claim with AHS was for a Freon check. Back in March or April, AHS had recommended the air-conditioners be checked before the season began. I submitted the claim online and within less than a day, they responded and got somebody scheduled out for the next couple of days. It wasn't an emergency. However, they still reacted very quickly. The technician came out and looked at both the air-conditioners and determined that there was a Freon leak and fixed it. So the service was fantastic. The peace of mind to know that the air-conditioners are not going to go out in the next two months or so before the season ends is very important.
Also, I called AHS when my microwave stopped working as well as when I had an electrical shortage. At both instances, they resolved the problem within the next couple of days. They replaced the microwave with a more appropriate model since the old model was probably 10 years old. The warranty has been great. It's an easy way to maintain my home and it gives me peace of mind. I'm very happy and do recommend them to others.

We never had any problems with AHS reps taking our information and putting a claim in, although, almost every time we call, there is a long time to get through on the 800-number. We recently called them for our dishwasher. We made four different calls and had different contractors. The most recent one was very good and did a great job. We also had people come out for the refrigerator and the garage, and we had some difficulty with one of them. They said that something major needed to be replaced, and AHS said they’re going to send out someone else, which they did, and the refrigerator was repaired. But we already paid the first contractor the $100 deductible, and when AHS sent out someone else, we continuously got billed for that $100. I continued to call them, and they finally took care of it but it was frustrating.
Another problem we had was when our air conditioning went out. We live in Palm Springs wherein it is extremely hot in the summer, and it took them a couple of days to get someone out here, which to me is unacceptable because it’s impossible to stay at home without the air conditioning when the temperature is above 110. That was also frustrating, and I expected them to be out to address it that day. Overall, they addressed the things that we’ve called them out to do. We didn't have to fight for claims. I've been at my home for many years that I knew the immediate symptoms so it didn't cause any problems. The guy fixed it and everything went well. He blew the lines out, explained a lot of stuff to me, looked at the dates and told me how old my equipment was. I knew everything had been here forever and I'm expecting it to go out. So after my next endeavor with American Home Shield, it'll probably be a very big job on this AC. If I have another AC problem, I want to request the same company. The tech was great and I liked him. Most of my claims with AHS have been good. The last one was a plumbing deal where they had to replace the plumbing in the wall and they tried to blame that on scratches on the faucet on the outside which weren't scratches. It was tarnish and I've been here 25 years. The handle broke and that's all that was wrong with it but it cost me $900. I wasn't happy about that because it had nothing to do with what was in the wall. I didn't accept the assessment from their rep because she didn't want to replace it because of the broken handle. The plumber came out here and was nice about it. He told them they had to replace everything in the wall and it's very expensive to do that.
We've had air conditioners go out and AHS has been good about replacing those. I also had pumps go out on the swimming pool and there was no problem. Overall it's good, but sometimes, you get these people on the telephone and they're looking at a picture they can't tell anything about and trying to make a decision. They don’t always have somebody else come out and look at it too, but I pay another $75 every time someone comes out. A lot of times, they get people that don't want to fix it and want to make a big claim.

We wanted to upgrade our heater from the 40 gallons to the 50 gallons. The technicians were willing to work with us in trying to figure out the best approach to the upgrade. However, there was a bit of back and forth because they weren’t sure how much American Home Shield would cover. That part was a little bit frustrating because in my mind American Home Shield would pay so much and we would pay the difference. We weren’t using the correct terminology, so they kept saying they didn't know what we were talking about and they couldn't do it. This went on for about a week. It was the local contractor who said we needed to do the cash out option.
I called American Home Shield again and once we got to the correct department, they knew what we were talking about. It was very professional and very efficient. It was taken care of immediately at that point. Once I got talking to the correct people to have the process approved, they sent a check out and said it would take 10 to 14 days to get the check to us. In the meantime, we changed the water heater. When we get the check, we will use that to reimburse ourselves. We're glad that we have American Home Shield insurance. I had my central AC broken for last 7 days. I contacted AHS 6 days ago. They scheduled vendor after 3 days. Technician came to my house and said he cannot fix the issue. I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) and they assigned another vendor. On day 5 new vendor contacted me and say they cannot provide me the service because it is their out of service area. I contacted AHS again. It took me more than 40 min to get hold of associate, and said they try to assign another vendor and if AHS cannot find any vendor with 24 hr then I can go to my own vendor and AHA reimburse the cost. Up to now I have not received any call from AHS and I am going to call AHS again. NOW it becomes my daily routine to call to AHS and talk with hope. I am sure by day 30 my AC will be fixed so I still have to survive with southern California heatwave with my three small kids.

I have been having problems with my air conditioner. I have called and they stated they would have local company come out. Well the first one is 1 1/2 hours away should be here between 1-5. Well 5 came by. I called company and he say very rude "It probably be another 2 hours." Well he didn't show up until 10 pm stated he couldn't get to it and will have to reschedule it - wouldn't be for another week. Called insurance. They set me up with another company. This one is 3 hours away - would be here between 8am-12. Well that time came and went and they showed up the next day while I was at work. Had to pay for someone to give my sister a ride and he never went inside. I had to call the technician. He said it is on. It was a grill on it. I told him it has always has started but does not get cold. Now my sister came outside and told him it was not cold. He told her it will needs time.
I get home at 8 pm and my house is 81 degrees - still on. Where I put a window unit was kind of cool if you stay in front of it so I called them - left a message. They say they can't come back out and would need to reschedule until over a week away and would be able to put me on a list if an appt cancels. Called American Home Shield and all they say they can't do anything and hang up on me. Well what the heck am I paying them for?

I had a very good experience with American Home Shield. The pipe in the bathroom was leaking and a guy had to cut it and stopped the leak. So I was very satisfied. I would recommend AHS. Their contractors were very professional and did their job in record time. I cancelled my contract because I sold my home. I bought a new-build home and don’t need warranty at this point. I told AHS that I will come back to them after this first year when I have to get my own warranty.

I had a garbage disposal replaced through American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online which was easy and the contractor was pleasant and very courteous. He had to come back a second time because he had to order a part but he was pretty informative and let me know what was going on throughout the process. It's been a great experience. I have no complaints.

I called American Home Shield because the drain hose that comes off of my furnace was clogged and there was water all over the floor. The furnace was replaced after we moved in there and I thought that they had replaced that hose too. However, the contractor told me that Home Shield won't cover that. He blew out the hose but it's still in terrible shape. When I asked why the hose wasn't replaced when the furnace was replaced, he said that AHS doesn't cover hoses. Somebody should have said something to me at that time. He also told me that the hose will cost me over $200 and I know I could buy it cheaper than that somewhere. For me, the contractor was not friendly. I'm trying to find a hose that will work to take care of it so it won't happen again.

We had a claim from American Home Shield for our garage door opener. It needed adjustment, but the main problem was that the power outlet is not working. So we need a send out for an electrician to come and look at the outlet. There was no follow up after the inspection. It seems that we have to do the follow-up and not the people doing the work. We have to chase their guys down in order to make sure that they send an electrician out to look at the outlet. It is also infuriating to go through the whole thing of not talking to a human, but talking to a prompt machine. But other than that, the contractors were very nice.

I've had two claims to American Home Shield that happened at the same time. One was at my permanent residence which went fine and the other was at my rental property in California which did not go smoothly. My daughter lives there and she has two small kids. The refrigerator condenser went out and AHS didn’t approve it at first. I didn’t hear back from the contractor as well. I had to wait forever to try and talk to somebody. I finally talked to a manager at AHS who said that they don’t know why my claim was denied. They approved it and the contractor came out again to say the same thing that he said the first time.
It would be almost three weeks before he was going to be back to fix it. I did a cash-out and I had to go and buy a new refrigerator because we couldn’t wait that long for this to get resolved. There needs to be stronger protocols in place when a customer service rep denies a claim, doesn’t communicate that back to the customer, and that turns out to be a mistake to begin with. There was a lack of communication and a lack of a lot of things.

My air conditioner wasn't working. I went online and submitted the claim with American Home Shield, and it was pretty easy. When the contractor sent by AHS first came out this past Friday to work on the AC, he was friendly, and seemed to be efficient and to have done a good job. The AC was fine when he left. But about two hours after he left, it broke again that night and both AC units went out. So the person who came out to repair the AC did not work well on it, but only fixed it temporarily.
I called to resubmit the claim and get somebody to come out again. However, the person from AHS I talked to was very rude and told me she couldn't do anything because it was a holiday weekend, and they'll have somebody out on Tuesday. It has not been comfortable in the house on a nice, hot weekend with no breeze and no air conditioning. I was very disappointed. I talked to the contractor. They called me Friday night after calling AHS. They said they couldn't get out until Tuesday. Then somebody called yesterday to schedule, saying they'd be out today between noon to five.

American Home Shield came out in a timely manner. I had them recently worked on my refrigerator. The gentleman who came out to perform the maintenance on it seemed to have a good knowledge of what was wrong with the refrigerator. He was able to get the part ordered shortly and get the refrigerator back up and running relatively quickly. He was professional and did what he was asked to do and he moved on. The experience was a positive one so I was pleased.

I had a microwave repaired by AHS and submitting a claim for that was easy to do. The contractor was very amenable to my schedule and was nice when he was in my home. He did a good job and the microwave has been working fine ever since. It was a good experience. I had American Home Shield on another home before and it was a good experience too. I had other available home warranty companies, but I went with American Home Shield based on my prior experience with them.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for an air conditioning unit at one of my tenant's place. The people at AHS were very pleasant and they gave me an appliance guy who was very easy to work with. He knew the complex really well. He got there before me and he was already checking out the outside unit. He was making sure it was okay right out there. I asked my tenant if everything is working well, and she said everything is working great. Additionally, when we claimed for a stove with burners that were not coming on, AHS sent me a guy who was very pleasant, prompt, efficient and also easy to work with. AHS has been really good and very prompt in helping me to get the repairs done to the appliances. My experience with them has been easy peasy, and I would use them again.

I've not had any problems with any of the claims I filed with AHS. The most recent one I did was a month and a half ago for a shower valve that had been stuck and wouldn't turn off. I gave them a call and they responded on time. AHS contacted a contractor and called me back. It was also good that the contractor kept their appointment.
The contractors came to analyze the shower valve. I anticipated a serious problem but it actually turned out to be very easy from the contractor's standpoint. It was handled very expeditiously, they were in and out in less than an hour. They knew exactly what and how to do it, and they got it done. There was no mess, no fuss, and they did good clean-up. I'm happy with AHS and would recommend it.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my dryer. My son was here when they came out to check it. They said they had to order a part and would call and try to be back the next day. He did call me and tell me that the part wasn't coming in until late afternoon and it was very courteous on his behalf to have the gumption to call and tell me that. Then he went well and beyond by coming in that same day to fix it, and the dryer has been working fine since the repair.

I submitted a claim online to AHS and it was quick and painless. Later that day, the contractor called me and scheduled me for the following day because they were really booked. So I had to wait an extra day. The contractor was very smart and good at what he did but he wasn’t really a happy, people person but not angry either. He was able to find the problem and fix it within 30 minutes. Everything’s fantastic but overall, I am not pleased with the customer service of AHS. There was a problem I had last year where it took them six months with several emails/requests to fill a hole that they had cut to replace a pipe.

We've only used AHS once and it went fine. We had a hot water leak, so we submitted a claim over the phone and it was easy. The technician was very professional. He said we needed a new water heater and then put one in. Since it went as well as it did, I decided to renew my policy.

I recently purchased a home and was provided a Home Warranty. Had a water leak that was not covered. The plumber they sent out could not find the leak and after the bill got to $600, he suggested I needed another plumber with special equip. My 79 year old father in law and his 80 year old brother came out found the leak within an hour of the plumber leaving, had it fixed within another hour. The subpanel on the AC unit burned up which caused problems with AC, called for service. 2 days later AC guy calls for an appointment. In the time it took for him to call I discovered the subpanel was the problem. Electrical contractor has never called. I called them and asked if this was covered and he stated no. I am a Realtor who has referred 4 families to AHS over the past year. It is not worth it, nothing is covered. Not a good experience. I will not refer anyone to them.

My last AHS call was to request a different plumber. AHS kept calling the same company out and that contractor only showed up twice out of the four times I called. They didn't really fix the problem and AHS wants me to pay the $75 fee again to get a new one sent. Customer service isn't helpful so I typically use the automated claim submission but I called this time to make sure they didn't send the same contractor again. I've had AHS with other houses in the past, they have a good concept but poor execution.

Don't let AHS send Rite-A-Way Services Inc to your home or business if you have a service call. See their Yelp review... extremely low. A horrible company used by AHS. We have been loyal customers of AHS for over 20 years, but will likely cancel next renewal period. They are so slow to respond. Just spent 30 min on hold this morning then another 20 min (mostly additional hold time) to have them take steps to resolve our problem.
