I’ve had some air conditioning repairs in the last year. I have used two different contractors that AHS sent to my home and they were both good. However, when submitting a claim, it’s usually not easy to reach someone. I have to stay on the line while the music plays and I stayed on as long as 15 minutes before somebody picked up. The last time I called, it wasn’t quite that bad since it was only about five minutes but still I dread calling because it takes so long. But the people are very efficient once you get a hold of them. The person I talk with knows what I need, takes care of the claim and tells me who will be sent here in Texas, and so that speeds things up. I’d still recommend AHS.

I always get excellent service from American Home Shield. I'd call them up, they handle the issue, and give me the individual. They always give me an expert in the field, so if it's an electrical problem, I get an electrician. They also give me the company name and the phone number just in case that company doesn't call me within 24 hours. Five years ago, a plumber said he couldn't fix my water heater and left. It was the coldest day that we ever had down in Texas and I had to call them up and have them deal with that because I'm an old lady and I can't tolerate freezing to death. Although that wasn't American Home Shield's issue, they were very prompt and had somebody up in my system fixing it right away.

However, the man who put a new motor in when he was fixing the heater forgot to put some type of switch that was supposed to be flipped when readjusting stuff, so I couldn't get my air conditioning running. I had to have another person come out and that's when I found out that the previous guy didn't finish that part. The new guy finished it, so everything got recycled okay. Generally speaking, AHS is always very courteous when I call them. As a matter of fact, I've recommended them to someone who had no idea about a maintenance service.

I submitted a claim for a swimming pool pump replacement and it was effortless. American Home Shield responded by sending a gentleman out to diagnose the problem. He went back to American Shield, told them that we needed a new pump and about two days later, we had it. It was wonderful. Everyone’s been positive. Their subcontractors are conscientious and have done a fine job. Overall, they’ve been very good and fair that’s why I still have them.

I have been a AHS customer for many years. Their service got worse. I have a range hood fan that makes loud noise for last 3 months. So loud, we can not hear anyone in kitchen or bear it everytime we cook. I opened a service request with AHS, their answer was that noise is not covered under warranty. That is a ridiculous policy and looks like they are just trying to avoid paying for repairs. Will the car dealer refuse repair if the car's silencer pipe is defective while under warranty? This call took months for them to give me a response. Service technician visited and AHS would not update me on the status. I called them twice and they don't give me an answer and always say they will get back to us. Finally they said after three months it is not covered. Who would have time to follow-up this many times for a simple home appliance repair? I don't see a reason why you would want a home warranty that does not pay for covered repairs when needed.

Claim submission was complicated. The claims reps were totally unbending and strictly stuck by their rules. The service provider had to come four different times and I finally refused to let them into my home because every time they came, something else was broken. I got five different estimates for what was wrong. The first guy who was sent by Total Air Care put the capacitor in backwards. The system did worse. The second guy said the first guy had put the capacitor in backwards and may have burned up the motor. Then there was a leak in Freon when there hadn’t been a leak until they started to run over the system. I was told that I had to pay from $35-$75 a pound for Freon. It finally got repaired and it cost me $300.

As American Home Shield's customer, when a service provider does not do the repair properly, the warranty company should back me and say, “We’ll get somebody else sent there.” They just kept sending back the same clowns that kept messing the system. I’m looking for another home warranty company.

I called about my garage door opener and they had a repairman out in just a day or so. It didn’t take long. The contractor that came was prompt and did an excellent job. I would wish to have him back again if I ever have another problem with my garage door opener. Since the repair, it has been working excellently. I would recommend them to anyone interested in that type of a service.

We love AHS and always recommend them. But the last claim we had was for our washing machine and they still have not finished it. It’s driving me nuts because they screwed up the wall and they haven’t come back to fix it. I need to call them and have them come and fix it but nobody has called me and it’s been three weeks now. Calling in was always a problem. I have to wait long times, sometimes 40 minutes before somebody would answer the phone and it was a pain in the neck. Now AHS has changed it so it’s an automatic answer even though it’s a problem with the automatic answering, I still get somebody and I appreciate the fact that they have tried to change it.

When we call in at AHS and we get the auto-answer to give messages, it doesn’t work right. It asks for the information but then it skips the sound and it doesn’t finish the sentence. For instance, if you’re looking for claims information, hit the number 1 button. If you want to find out a current claim that you’ve already gotten, hit the dial number 2. So you don’t know exactly what you’re supposed to do. Then because you don’t know what you’re doing, it says, “I’m not receiving a correct answer.” So then it starts all over again. Then when it starts all over again, it completes it correctly so you make it all the way through. I have multiple houses and because of this, if I do not have my contract number in front of me, I cannot get it to the correct house. So I end up with people calling me and trying to make an appointment for my house instead of the appointment at the house that I need the help at. It’s a requirement to have a contract number.

I have contracts on three different homes with American Home Shield. I've been with them quite some time now, and I've had good support out of everything up to date there. I had an instance a couple years ago. The lady of the house was about 10 months pregnant and in the middle of a hot summer, something happened to the air conditioner. American Home Shield responded and when I called them I said, "I can't take this for the whole weekend." They gave me authority to go out and contact a local company that normally doesn't deal with them and have them come out and they paid the bill. It was a Saturday and I was able to get somebody who was working half day. But that's the only drawback, that sometimes it takes a bit longer to get service when you got to go out of the norm. When you're dealing with sub-providers, you're tied to their schedule and they don't sit around waiting for American Home Shield to call them.

The eight weeks of jumping through hoops and begging for service for my stove have put me off with American Home Shield. End-to-end, the process was a flipping nightmare. I filed my first claim on April 6. AHS sent MIS Appliance and their guy said the problem was the control board. He said they have to order one and when it comes, they'll come and fix it. They called me two and half weeks later and said they got the part and they'll be at my home right away. The guy came with a part that is not the control board, he then took the whole stove apart and said it's broken and they can't fix it. Before I only did not have a range, but after he left I didn't have a stove top or an oven. He said he'll tell AHS it's dead and will get it replaced.

The next day, I got an e-mail from AHS that said, "We've opened a new ticket for you". Why did they do that? I don't need another repairman. The guy said it was dead, right? So I called and I spoke to somebody and she said, "Oh, no! They said that it's beyond their ability to repair." The repairman just told me it was plain dead. So the second repair guy came in, didn't take anything apart, only looked at it and said, "Yup, it's the control board. We're gonna order the part. It will be here in a couple of weeks. I'll call you when it's ready."

Three weeks went by and the part finally came. They came back and replaced it but it's still dead. They still can't fix it. So it took them from the beginning of April until a week ago to say it really is dead. I am trying to feed my family of four with a crockpot, a microwave, and a toaster oven because AHS did not handle the problem properly and it's incredibly expensive out-of-pocket. After many days of calling and exchanging e-mails with AHS, I finally got somebody who called me and said, "We're gonna replace your stove."

This problem has been a royal pain in the neck and not being able to get a straight answer out of everybody, apparently the first company that said it's beyond their capabilities. If they're like that, then why MIS Appliance is in business? If they can't fix a stove and they don't want to admit that it's dead because I assume they get graded by AHS on how many appliances they declare dead, I'm the one who gets cooked. In the meantime, I have AHS telling me that I owe them another $75 for the second repair guy who came when the first guy couldn't get it right in the first place. My only consolation was their quick action about replacing the stove. It took them only a few days to have it delivered and installed. They took the old stove outside my house as I was told they would.

I should've checked beforehand, but our new home came with 1 year free warranty from A.H.S. So I decided better safe than sorry so opted to continue the warranty after 1 year ended. So, $75 per tech visit + $600 deductible per ANYTHING needing fixed. Sucks, however in the event something major needs fixing it might be a good thing to have on hand. But even so, the fine print ruins my hopes of having coverage with AHS. Most every plumbing issue, which is our major problem right now, is NOT covered under their warranty. In fact, almost everything that's gone wrong thus far here I've just gone and fixed myself to avoid spending the $675.

The builder of our home left wet concrete in the sewer line while pouring the bathroom shower downstairs. Which just so happens to be where EVERYTHING plumbing related in the house connects into and runs out to the street. But AHS states that it doesn't fall under their Plumbing/BLOCKAGE coverage??? And most estimates I've found were as high as $2-10,000.00. Not very happy at all.

AHS does not make repairs over weekend. Because my kitchen faucet broke on a Friday night, I have been informed by AHS that it will be Tuesday before a repair person will be at my house. That is 4 days before I will get a repairman out here. If a part is needed, it could be longer. They do not consider it an "emergency" because I am able to shut off the water and do not have an active leak. Further, it takes 24 hours to escalate to a supervisor and the "retention" department for accounts is not open on weekends. As a consumer, I am stuck to wait 4 days because I mentioned I could shut off my water. False advertising.

They were nice enough but didn’t give the information that I needed. They assumed that I knew and I didn’t know what information to ask for because I’ve never done this before. I looked for the contract and was told that I would be offered the option, but not until I asked. Before, we’ve had appliances that they'd just work on and fix. We never had to have one replaced.

I was on hold and transferred to four different members to get to the right person one day. I was on hold for 40 minutes, waiting to talk to someone. AHS is a good company. We’ve dealt with them before when my husband and I used to live in a Baptist orphanage wherein we had to have walk-in freezers with all the kids and the mouths that we fed. I was not involved with it but we got those freezers right away and they came and put them in. The repairman came the next day. He checked the refrigerator which has a Freon leak. It is so old that the parts and the type of Freon that it has, they don't use any more. So he said it would just have to be replaced. He told us that they would get back in touch with us in 48 hours but never did until I called them after a week. And then, I have to go through five different sets of being put on hold until I got to the right person which was a little frustrating.

It has been a little over two weeks now that we have not had a working refrigerator. They called Monday last week and gave me a model number, the cost of it with the tax and delivery and the one-year warranty. I have not been able to find any place in Texas that carries this type of GE refrigerator so that I could go and look at it. They didn’t tell me that if we wanted to purchase our own, we would have to do it.

So, I finally called them back yesterday because I’ve not heard anything else. I was told that we would be given the option of taking the refrigerator that I have found that’s comparable to the one that we have or that we could find the one that we want. And she said, “Yes. That’s what you were told.” And I said, “No, it wasn’t. I was just given the model number and it was a GE and how much it costs and that you would pay for tax and delivery and had a one-year warranty. But nobody told me that we had an option that we could purchase our own until I called back yesterday.” She said, “Well, when we gave you that model number, that’s what you were supposed to do. You can either take that or you can pick your own.” I said, “But nobody told me that. How was I supposed to know that?”

After two weeks, I just found out yesterday that we can purchase our own and we have to send the copy of the receipt paid in full, has to have a one-year warranty, a FAX number, to American Home Shield. Now, I can’t cook because all of my frozen food is being stored at my brother’s house. So, I don’t have anything in the freezer or in the refrigerator that I can cook. So I have not been satisfied at all.

I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my hot water heater and it was very easy. They were out here for another issue and that’s when it was discovered. I went on the website, submitted the claim and followed it up with a phone call. The lady I spoke to was very friendly and knowledgeable. She knows the end of the call center. For the equipment, I can’t expect her to know all that stuff, but she knew who to contact and made sure I was taken care of. She told me who they would be sending out, so I called them up. They sent somebody that day to take a look at what needed to be done, and then the following day, they were out and they replaced my hot water heater.

AHS is the best thing that someone has ever recommended to me. When I first bought a house in 2005 here in Georgia, part of the sales contract was that my saleslady made sure that she put in the requirements, so they had to pay AHS for a year. And within four months of buying the house, I had to submit a claim. It was taken care of and paid for. After that, I tell everyone I knew who was buying a house to make sure to have a home warranty. If they don’t go with American Home Shield, at least make sure they get one because that’s the best thing they could ever do if they own a house. I am happy with American Home Shield. The prices have gotten a little high, but that’s the nature of the business. As time goes on, things are going to cost more. AHS has taken care of me. They’ve done a good job. In fact, it's the best peace of mind I’ve ever invested in.

I recently called American Home Shield (AHS) for the first time with a service request regarding a problem with my home air conditioner. When the contractor (from Metro Air - Atlanta, GA area) came to my home, I had explained to him that I had just added refrigerant into my unit a week prior, and it was something I had done at the beginning of every summer for the past few years. Unfortunately this time the refrigerant had leaked out within 2-3 days and began blowing warm air again. Therefore, I explained to him that there must be a leak and that I had spoken to a couple of HVAC repair guys that I knew and they suggested that we probably needed to replace the coils and/or the condenser.

He then apparently used some type of "dye" to identify the leak, but after about 45 minutes later he proceeded to tell me that he could not find the leak and it probably just needed refrigerant (which of course AHS no longer wants to pay for, and did not let us know this until we filed the claim). I stated that there was no way that I had just spent almost $400 a couple of weeks ago adding refrigerant and would spend more money to add more refrigerant when it was just going to leak back out again.

He stated that he understood, and I thought that he was actually a pretty nice guy, but apparently he went back to his office and reported to his superiors at Metro Air that I "refused to have my unit repaired" by not agreeing to add and pay for more refrigerant. Which of course was not the whole story, and in turn, they reported the same untrue statement to AHS. In addition, he also told me that his office would contact AHS that afternoon and that someone would call me the next day (a Tuesday, as he was at my home on a Monday).

Tuesday came and went and there was no call from anyone. On Wednesday, I called the Metro Air contractors office to get an update as to what was going on. No one answered my first call, so I hung up and called AHS. When I spoke to AHS, they told me that they had not heard from Metro Air (keep in mind that the weather on these particular days in Atlanta was high 80's/low 90's). :-(

As a result, I called Metro Air back and spoke to a guy named Troy. When I asked "Troy" (I will refrain from using his last name which I do have), why hadn't they called AHS on that Monday as I was told, he gave me a very rude and nasty response "We've been too busy," and his overall tone was nasty and extremely disrespectful! Of course that set me off, and I will definitely admit that I proceeded to rip into him, sort of speak. After hanging up on that moron, I then called AHS back and told them that I wanted to report Metro Air and "Troy", and I that could not understand how they could have a contractor that treated their customers like this. I also requested that they send out another contractor and that I didn't want anyone from Metro Air in my home ever again.

They actually sent a new contractor out the very next day; Air Design AC & Heating. I explained the same situation to the service technician from Air Design regarding me just having paid almost $400 for refrigerant and this guy was sincerely sympathetic and totally understood. More importantly within 20 minutes he not only found the leak, but also showed me exactly where it was (actually let me hear it from a tool he was using), and needless to say he told me that the coil needed to be replaced. Exactly what I told the first guy from Metro Air! Please keep in mind that at this point it's about a 8-9 days now without AC in 80/90 degree weather. He also stated to me before he left the same thing as the first guy - that he would report back to his office, they would contact AHS, and someone from AHS would contact me the next day.

Well I actually heard from AHS the next day via a voicemail message from them informing me that I would have to pay over $600 out-of-pocket to repair my AC and that over $400 of that amount was for refrigerant alone! Of course, I was extremely upset and called them right away, as I am trying to understand how I have been paying them monthly for years for a warranty repair/replacement service, but when I finally use them, it costs me over $700 (including the initial visit fee) on top of the monthly premiums I have been paying for years.

When I spoke to the AHS customer service representative she really didn't have an explanation other than stating the policy that "AHS no longer covers the full amount for refrigerant." I then proceeded to ask her what was the total amount of my repair (to determine how much AHS was actually paying vs. my out-of-pocket amount). She told me that she could not share that information with me and that this was between AHS and their contractors. Are you kidding me??? Obviously at this point I am really feeling scammed, as I can only assume I am paying more for this repair than AHS. :-(

Anyway, as a result of this experience, I will go ahead and get my AC repaired. But once repaired, I will drop AHS and find a more fair and honest competitor home warranty service. In addition, I will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Of course I am writing this review here, I will also write the AHS CEO, Mark Barry (even though I don't expect a response) and most importantly, I will tell all my neighbors, friend's, family members, business colleagues, and pretty much "everyone" I know not to ever use AHS, as I really convinced that they are just ripping people off!

Finally to AHS; as I know you have someone read these reviews, please don't send me one of those canned responses/comments that you usually do in this forum, like: "Hello Joe, I am sorry to hear about this situation. I value your feedback and the chance resolve any issues that you may have." I have read several of these you posted (like people are stupid and won't know these are canned/scripted responses since most of them are very similar). If you want to resolve my issue, send me all my monthly premium payments back from the past few years so I can use that to get my AC fixed or simply provide what I paid you for all these years!!!

My dishwasher was broken. The rep I spoke with was as sweet as she could've been. It's the only reason I've stayed with American Home Shield and kept paying. The last gentleman that Sears sent out was a delight to have in my home. I felt bad though because when he ordered the part that his machine told him was wrong, it was bad. But unfortunately, there were two other things that were bad too and you couldn't tell until the part is put ahead. So we had the pleasure of the tech's company three times. But it was nice because we got to know him and we like him. We were really pleased.

American Home Shield has gotten better with age. At the very beginning, we had a couple of people who weren't pleasant. But most of them on the whole have been very pleasant. I don't like Sears and told this to the lady that I talked to and she said to call them back immediately if I didn't like the technician. But no, even my cat likes him.

He had a service where AHS comes out and checks the AC like a routine maintenance type of deal. The AC was working fine but then somehow when they were doing their routine check, the system went completely down. It seemed weird because the thing was working fine for years and now it doesn't work at all which resulted to him having to pay out of pocket. AHS covered some but he also paid for some other stuff. But other than that I never heard anything else bad about AHS. I'm the one who recommended it to him, so I felt bad for letting him know about this company and then for that to happen.

The repairmen AHS sends seem less qualified than those you could blindly simply pick from the yellow pages. I wish I had not continued this service with the full one time payment. These issues should have been easily fixed with one or two visits. And now I can look forward to another new (warranty covered) water heater to maybe last maybe 2 years. I will look for another warranty company and steer clear of AHS.

The contractor comes to fix the issue, and I pay them a $75 service call fee - we're not responsible if there's anything else, American Home Shield pays for it. Last summer, we had a sand filter replaced in our pool and within a week, the parts were ordered and it was up and running. Three weeks ago, one of our air-conditioning units was not cooling about three weeks ago. American Home Shield called the normal vendor that has been dealing with it. It was a Freon issue so the vendor added more Freon. It's been a good experience dealing with AHS. In my next home, I'll definitely have a warranty with them as well.

I submitted a claim for a combination microwave conduction oven. The microwave still works but the convection oven had apparently an extremely unusual problem. Wolf said that in all of these units that they had sold, we were the third complaint of this nature and they had to find the guy who had handled the first two to figure out how to fix it. We had one contractor come out and tell us that it couldn’t be fixed. Then, we had another contractor come out and order a new part after a new part after a new part saying that it would fix the problem but it didn't. Finally, he threw up his hands and said it was fixed and that we weren't using it right.

American Home Shield was responsive to our stories about the contractors they sent out. They found Mario and he sat on the kitchen floor on the phone with Wolf and within 10 minutes had the problem diagnosed. He did have to order a part and during the process, he kept in contact with us and let us know how things were going, which in my experience and at the risk of sounding completely sexist, is very rare for men to do. It might be that they take care of everything very well, but they're not big on keeping you in the loop.

I'm more used to having to chase men down and say "hey, what's going on". With Mario, he let us know when the part was ordered. Then he called us back and told us that there had been a delay with Wolf. He kept after them until he got the part. When we found out that he was coming to fix the microwave convection, we were absolutely overjoyed. He is head and shoulders above anybody in any house I've ever owned who’s ever come out to fix things. With the first guy, American Home Shield paid for parts that never fixed anything as well as paying this guy for each one of his trips. He didn't go into it with the intent to steal, but he was incompetent and he thought that if he eventually replaced every part on the stove it would someday work and it wasn’t that at all. It was the programming error that he himself created when he shut down. It was incompetence run amuck. I went through a Christmas and a Thanksgiving with no oven.

Then I found out that the last guy who was out here countermanded what I had said and said "oh no, I've been back. It was fixed." American Home Shield thought that they really had not heard the last word from me. He did that because he wanted to keep American Home Shield’s business and I'm sure there are things the guy can fix, but on the other hand he was so over his head with this and he never once made a phone call. He never once pulled out a manual more so travels with like this little portable library and its track of manuals for different manufacturers.

Mario didn’t make up a bunch of stuff. We live in a community and we have a newsletter. We put him out there as absolutely reliable, trustworthy, the best we've ever interacted with. He’s a price. AHS should be aware that they have gotten magic in their possession with him. He’s wonderful with customers and his work is superlative. He’s incredibly intelligent and astute, knows his stuff and how to cut through problems. He gets the back number for every company so he can talk to somebody immediately who will know rather than going through loop after loop after loop.

He told me that my freeze-on was a little low. So, I had American Home Shield come out and I had a good experience with the contractor. He said, “No, your freeze-on’s okay.” The guy that was here did a good job and charged me $100 for not doing anything but I was happy to pay him.

I gave him my credit card number which was a big mistake. The next day, that number was used fraudulently for two purchases. American Express called me and immediately I had them put a stop on it. I called American Home Shield and told them. I also called the company which is what American Express told me to do, and called the contractor that was there and let the office know. His office didn’t want to take any responsibility and that was a bad experience for me. It took a while to straighten out my credit card number being used but thank goodness American Express handled that for me.

My problem with them is that their contractors are not always reputable and I’ve had horrible luck with the ones that they send. One was a crook that came out to look at my garage door opener. Also, their customer service department is horrible to get through. I'd call them and I've been put on hold for 25 minutes at times. They need to work on those two things. However, when I did the service call, the claims representative was very courteous and nice, and I’m not having issues with the air conditioning. It's been a good, bad and ugly experience.

In purchasing our home (a foreclosure through Freddie Mac HomeSteps) we were given a $500 credit towards a $560 home warranty through AHS. Knowing the bank/owner wouldn't pay for any repairs prior to closing, this was a great deal. As a requirement of our mortgage and contract with HomeSteps, we had a home inspection prior to closing. We called AHS regarding a corroded pipe (repaired with duct tape), a leaking water pipe (NOT on the home inspection - also there are mismatched pipe materials - should be covered), and a running toilet. The plumber advised that at least the leaking pipe should be covered.

ALL SERVICES WERE DENIED as pre-existing. I called to understand this as no responsible homeowner will buy a house without an inspection and it's a requirement for a mortgage. I was told that if the damage was visible or identified on the inspection, they were considered pre-existing and that there is no appeals process, that I could get a second opinion and if they still agreed, I'd have to pay the $100 service charge a second time. I have read the contract and it states it would cover repairs found in the inspection if the repairs were performed prior to the contract effective date to AHS standards (so you'll reimburse me for repairs done before I'm covered??? But the bank would not repair anything, so this is an impossible statement).

I believe this warranty is a scam, that nothing is truly covered under warranty when you buy a foreclosure, and that AHS has no interest in doing right by the customer. I have reported this complaint to the Better Business Bureau and to my local news. I am highly dissatisfied with the coverage and the level of customer service being provided.

AHS is a bargain for what I pay for every month for it and what I did so I'm extremely happy.

The first time he went, he didn’t do it right away because there was another problem with the part. He said that they'll order the part and I thought it would take a week or two. He came the next day with it. I’m thinking I still got issues. I never hear the pressure stop. Still, the insurance program is awesome and I saved a lot of money with the repairs.

During the sales process, my pool equipment, type of heater and such a big-ticket exclusion was not brought up and I can't help but feel 'ripped off'. Upon attempts to cancel my 'lack of coverage', I was told I cannot make changes or cancellations after 60 days. While I feel this is deceptive and unfair, this is likely how the entire industry operates to make a profit. If you're thinking about buying pool equipment coverage, buyer beware!!

Been a customer for almost a year, my air conditioner recently broke and the claim is resulting in over $1200 in non-covered incidental expenses to me - refrigerant and duct work not covered (mostly because they are fixing a 26-year-old AC/heater that uses a very expensive refrigerant instead of replacing it with a new one, and if something similar happens again w/ the old unit I could have to pay this again according to the policy/contract). Beware if you think the home warranty will protect you from all expenses when something major goes wrong.

At this point I'm having to do the arduous task of getting quotes for paying for a replacement unit vs. the $1200 fix, when I thought I'd never have worry about this again once I got the home warranty. Very disappointed. They are fine for small repairs that barely exceed the deductible amount though - used them once for a plumbing leak and they came and fixed (of course a regular plumber on my own may not have cost much more).

Then, they ordered another part. It was months that I don't have a refrigerator but AHS kept it going and ended up getting me a new refrigerator.

It was that service company that took them awhile. I think they saw what the refrigerator was and the problem that it was having. They should have just replaced it back to the initial visit. Nevertheless, AHS were prompt on calling me and letting me know what was going on and who they had gotten in touch with. They had easy access on the internet for watching what was going on. It was a little slow just in the ordering parts and my work schedule and getting them to the house but it all ended up good. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I'm normally on hold for only a minute until somebody picks up. Their representatives have always been friendly and helpful answering all my questions.

The contractor that came out for my heating unit had to come back a few times but it wasn't really their fault, first with replacing parts and then being that it was an older unit, there was a couple of parts that failed after they had replaced those parts. They were really prompt and I didn't have any problem getting hold of them. They understood how important it was to my family to have heat on for the winter and did everything they could to get it rectified as soon as possible. After a couple of trips out, one of which was on a Saturday evening, they ended up replacing the unit. It's been six months since the unit was replaced and it worked great all through the winter.

NOTHING HAPPENED UNTIL FRIDAY.

We made several phone calls to technician and AHS, all we were given is 'we are still waiting for technician's/AHS input.' Finally, Friday we called AHS and got a response - 'AHS WILL ONLY COVER WITH $320 limit'. There is NOWHERE IN THE CONTRACT SAYING THERE IS A LIMIT for water heater replacement. Even their customer service says there is no limit for the replacement per contract. And $320 limit coverage is all we got, after paying them $350 bucks! It is such a joke. They are lying on contract. We are so frustrated that we are considering of getting a lawyer regarding the contract BS that thrown at us. I will never buy AHS again. It is at least 48 hours and God forbid if it's on a Friday. Don't expect to hear from them until Monday no matter what the emergency is. I had a plumbing leak that took 4 months to resolve. I finally had to use outside sources to get it fixed. I am STILL waiting to be reimbursed the $850.00 it cost.

There was no consideration for the other $400 I had to pay because they ripped off my ceiling. I was charged $125.00 for a recall (there is not supposed to be a charge if they are recalled within 60 days of first visit, it was their 3rd visit) which also took 3 months to be reimbursed for. Their ads sound great and it makes you think that they will do WHATEVER it takes to make you happy and to repair what is broken. They do not do this. I have just cancelled my contract with them. I have had AHS since 2009. Dealing with them has never been a picnic, but for what you get for the cost I thought it was a good deal. The first few years I lived in my condo, I had to call AHS at least once. The first year I got charged multiple times within 60 days for the same issue. I asked to have this looked into, and I never heard anything back nor did I receive credit. Time was more important, so I let it go. Other issues have been dealt with have been ok, but not great.

Fast forward to today. I have tried calling AHS at least 5 times in the past 14 hours due to a broken AC unit. Each time the recording has started it would take over 10 minutes to speak to a person. I submitted a claim via the horrible automated system (let me press numbers instead of talking). I haven't done this before, but I thought it would ask if this was a call that needed quick attention. I received a call the next day informing me no one could come to my condo until Monday.

So, I called AHS yet again, and this time waited the 10+ minutes to talk to a person. We talked for maybe 2 minutes. 45 minutes later, I hear nothing. The woman said I would hear silence and then music. The music never came. This has happened to me before and the phone call was actually dropped. I didn't want to hang up hope and the call, so I let it keep going. I opened a chat at about 38 minutes on hold (at least this is what I was hoping), and waited at least 10 minutes to chat with someone online. At 47 minutes, the woman finally came back on the line to tell me she was trying to find a company to come to my home.

I would also like to add that this is at least the 5th time they have been out to fix this unit. At the third time, the company that came out suggested it be replaced instead of fixed and would only cost $800 more. AHS policy is to fix if it can be fixed. They have now spent more than $800 fixing the same unit. We each could have saved money at this point.

After an hour on the phone, the woman couldn't help because the chat woman (that I was able to contact sooner) transferred it to the dispatch department. Unfortunately, I used two routes to get a problem fixed and shouldn't have. This was my mistake. I didn't fully understand that the chat woman's work would stop the woman on the phone from helping me. Again, this was my mistake. They are supposed to contact me once a company has been found. There is no time frame or any other option. Since they only contract with a certain amount of companies, it is difficult to find companies that fill requests that need to be completed the same day. So part of this review is offer advice. If you do need service help just wait on hold on the phone because that woman was actually calling companies for me instead of just transferring it along like the woman on the chat. DO NOT USE THE CHAT FUNCTION!

Either way we got that sewer pump fixed but next day Sump Pump stopped working and the basement got flooded. After calling AHS, big big disappointment! They are not taking any responsibility whatsoever just by saying we don't cover third party damage. It is not even a third party damage.

The plumber they sent did not fix what he was supposed to. It is his fault and AHS as well as that company (M&E Plumbing) should take responsibility for flooded basement and damaged furniture. What's the point of having AHS insurance if it is of no use. I should've fixed it myself and would've saved some money. Jennifer from customer service received our phone call after 40 minutes and simply ignored us saying we are not responsible! Transferred to customer service but nobody picked up the phone for almost an hour. Please give yourself a favor and stay away from AHS. Save some money and headache. On 2/24/16 I made a request that two of the igniters on my stove weren't working. Not a big deal and since I have AHS, let's get it fixed, after all it's under warranty. First guy comes to fix it, just takes a look. Says he needs some new parts and that my stove wouldn't work for 6-8 weeks while they have to rebuild the igniters. A week or so later, they come back to my house to take out the parts, and send them off to be rebuilt. Parts come back in a few weeks, they install most of them and now all 4 igniters do not work. We are worse than we started. Then a few days later we are told the stove will need to be replaced. The only stove that we could use to replace my existing was an upcharge. Then they come to deliver the old stove and the installer doesn't show up. Then the installer shows up a week later, tells me he is going to charge me $60 to cut off a 1" piece of wood so that the new stove will fit. Then he doesn't install a major part of the stove.

AHS is telling me I am responsible for some additional installation that they will not cover and I need to coordinate everything. They won't even give me a recommendation of who to use. Needless to say this whole situation is extremely unfortunate. I have spent hours on the phone with AHS only for them to ultimately "deny" my claim. If I could go back in time and never call them to fix the insignificant issue I started with, I absolutely would. We don't love our new range, the old one was better, and now I am going to be all in $500+ and 20-30 hours of my time to get everything working appropriately. It just seems like AHS doesn't care and they do not have any interest in making the situation right.

He called AS and said the unit was not accessible before talking to me. When I spoke with him I told him I would level the burners off once the heater cooled and he agreed that he would return to do the diagnostic (once leveled). I then left a series of messages with him telling him that the burners were level and asked when he would return. I have never heard from him since.

On contacting AS including numerous transfers to various supervisors AS indicated that they could not do anything. I suggested that they send another contractor and although Columbia SC is the capital of South Carolina with an area population over 500,000 people AS told me that this contractor is their only pool contractor for the whole area. Now to add insult to injury they say I owe them $100 for this nonperformance. Not sure what recourse I have at this time.

Should the unit need parts God only knows how long this could be. In the meantime my son and husband are asthmatic - the pollen is out of control. Asked for a manager to call me and yet again no call. Someone is supposed to come in the AM. I have been a customer with more than one house cover by see people for 17 years. I deserve better!!!

American Home Shield contracted with an appliance repair company that informed me that my dishwasher was not broken. I showed the repairman the dirty dishes and he continued to say that there was nothing wrong. I called again and American Home Shield sent the repairman back out free of charge and he once again told me that nothing was wrong with the dishwasher. I have to hand wash all my dishes because after switching to a top cleaner, pre-washing my dishes, using the sanitizer button, and using the special dishwasher cleaner, my dishes are still filthy.

I called American Home Shield again to complain. They were supposed to have the manager of the company come out to check it and I never heard from the company again. Now, after making a 4th phone which now happens to be out of the 60 day period from the original service call they want me to pay the $75.00 service charge AGAIN. I think that the company should waive the service fee. I asked to speak to the manager and she said no. She told me there was no one else that I could speak to about this issue. I don't feel like I should have to keep making phone calls and spending money to have nothing done.

Worst company I dealt with ever. I took the most expensive home warranty from them and when my microwave broke down, it's a waiting game. Their contractor, Major Service Appliances (MSA) sent someone to diagnose the problem. It cost me 75 out-of-pocket and after that, it's just a waiting game. I call AHS pretty much daily for status and so far I have just been given misleading information. Their status went backwards from 'received the diagnosis' and 'it's in authorization dept' to 'haven't heard from our contractor'. It took more than 2 weeks to send in diagnosis. I have been 3 weeks into a broken microwave. Never got any definitive timelines about when the diagnosis would come in, when the authorization would go through, etc. I got this insurance from my realtor and would check if there is a way for me to cancel it.

My freezer on my Sub-Zero has been giving me problems for the last couple of years. Each time I call AHS they bring in an appliance company who will fill it up with Freon. Each company tells me I have a leak. Then about 6 months to a year I have the same problem again. This time when my freezer stopped working, I decided to call my own appliance company to have the problem diagnosed. The first company which is a very reputable company in our area called Caesar's Appliance (have been in business in our area for over 40 years). The technician came and said that the freezer has a sealed system failure. The technician also told me that they can diagnose but do not repair sealed system failure. In order to get a second opinion, I called Avalon Repair which specializes in Sub-Zero.

The technician came right away and confirmed that I have sealed system failure... that I have a leak in the system which is why I have to keep putting more Freon and that it is toxic for the insurance company to keep putting Freon in as if there is a leak... with heat from cooking it can lead to cancer over a course of time. The technician gave us specifics... evaporator coils, compressor, heat exchanger for freezer at the very least to repair it if repair was possible. He stated that locating leaks was also difficult depending on where it is. So I called AHS and they tried to send out California Appliance Repair. I told them that several years ago the technician (owner) was very verbally abusive and threatened me. The technician (owner) had no clue what he was doing and when you questioned him on what he was doing he started screaming and swearing. He also slammed his equipment down and started waving his hand in front of my face.

Upon renewal they promised me that they would note my account that they will never send out California Appliance Repair and asked me not to switch over to another company. I had to call 3 times for them to finally send out All Brands Appliance Repair. The technician came out on Friday 5/6/16. He looked at the system and confirmed that the freezer had a sealed system failure and everything including compressor needed to be replaced. He informed me that most likely AHS will most likely have to replace it or they will have to authorize the repair which will be a couple of thousands of $$ at the very least. He also stated that all AHS would pay him for this huge repair was $185. He said that he would call AHS on Saturday and let them know it needs a major repair that will be very costly or that it will need to be replaced.

On Monday, I called AHS to see what the status on my sub-zero was. I spoke with Yolanda in the am. Yolanda informed me that they were sending California Appliance repair. I reminded her AGAIN that I am not going to have a company who was verbally abusive come into my house. So Yolanda told me that they will find another company to come out and that they will give me a call in a few hours. It is now 5:14 PM and I just called AHS again. I spoke with Brittany and she told me that they are still looking. What I don't understand is I have 3 work order invoices – one from a company AHS sent out, stating that my freezer has a sealed system failure and have to find the leak and all the compressor etc. needs to be replaced. Yet here I am another day with ABSOLUTELY NO DIRECTION AS TO HOW AND WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO REPAIR IT or if they are going to replace it. They keep giving me the run around.

Each time I call I have to hold for 15 minutes. When I ask to speak to a supervisor they tell me that one will call me in 24 hours. Last time I asked for a supervisor to call about my freezer almost a year ago... the supervisor called about 3 weeks later!! I need my Sub-Zero repaired properly so that the leaking Freon is not in the air making our home toxic environment. They either need to repair it or replace it but they cannot keep giving me the run around to prolong the process. I am hoping that someone who reads this from AHS can assist me to resolve this. I have NO FREEZER!! I hope they do not scratch my review off conveniently "unverified". Seems like they do that many dissatisfied reviews. I am hoping that AHS will step up to the plate and honor what they say they do. I am hoping that my case just happened to fall through the cracks and that this is not how they do business.

UPDATED ON 06/01/2016: On May 5th AHS sent out All Brand Appliance Repair. They diagnosed my sub zero to have a sealed system leak which would cost $2000 - $3000 to repair. Since then AHS has not made any attempt to communicate with me. All communications have been one way... me calling them for an update. They always promise to call or escalate it to a supervisor and yet not once have they followed through.

I finally called them about 17 days ago and they authorized for me to outsource the repair. The appliance company who is going to do the repair called them the following morning, gave them all the information and his license information and had authorized. They informed him that they would order the parts and ship it directly to me and that at the latest I would have it by May 26th. It is now May 31st and I don't have any parts, no phone calls from AHS updating me, and a freezer that doesn't work. I wrote a complaint here on May 9th but soon after they tagged it with FACT UNCERTAIN. Seems like any posts that is inconvenient is tagged FACT UNCERTAIN. They also claimed to want to help resolve my problem but such has not been the case.

We purchased a new home in Florida last summer. The systems and appliances all appeared to be working well, but we requested a home warranty to cover us for the first year. This spring, when our home warmed up sufficiently for us to turn on the air conditioner, we were getting no cooling. I tested the heat and we were getting no heating either. Since the system is a heat pump, I assumed a leak in the system and loss of coolant, making the system unable to work to either deliver cool or warm refrigerant to the furnace coils. I called American Home Shield and their selected contractor was unable to get to us for three very hot days. While I was on the phone with a very polite gentleman, he said he had something he was required to read to me.

The announcement was that AHS would pay only the first $10 per pound of the cost of coolant and I would be responsible for the rest. "How bad can it be?", I thought - so I told him to go ahead and schedule us for service - our deductible is $75 per visit. A very experienced and competent tech showed up, found and plugged the leak, and added the refrigerant AT A COST OF $75 PER POUND! That sent me back to the policy with AHS. They want $1500 per year for us to renew a contract that is so loaded with exceptions it covers almost nothing.

I went to the AHS customer review site and found nothing but glowing tributes, and of course they do not allow unhappy customers who feel duped an opportunity to add this kind of review. I know nothing about this industry, but I do plan to do some research before I select our next provider, and I'm certain it will not be AHS. If the other providers don't do a better job according to their customers, I will be self-insuring, which is essentially what I'm now doing, but paying that company for the privilege.

American Home Shield thinks I should pay over 500.00 for an appliance they cover. This is the second time I have paid 75.00 and little to nothing was covered. They have very few, if any, repair people in the area. It often takes 1-2 weeks before they can locate someone to service me. I have paid 50.00 a month for the last 10 years to American Home Shield and the last two times I needed service, I paid the 75.00 fee and they would not cover the issue OR the "uncovered" is more than what they actually pay on their end.

This instance, my hot water heater died. They will pay for the hot water heater (approx. 400.00) and the installation. I pay over 500.00 because the pipes don't merely screw in, it takes a modification of existing pipes. I requested 6 times to speak with a manager, and was not allowed to. Apparently the "breakdown" of an appliance will be covered ONLY if the event happens on the 5th Wednesday of the month of the odd numbered years, AKA you are not covered.

Replacing our garbage disposal went very smoothly. We just had to place one call to submit the request and that was it (I tried making repair requests online but now I haven't tried it within the last three years because when I did, it took me in circles and I never accomplished it so I just call. But I am a huge internet online user for service and information sharing.). The contractor responded quickly, scheduled the appointment, came and installed the new disposal, and American Home Shield honored it. The contractor had the new disposal in the van so there was no reason for two trips. He said our old unit had a crack in the case, then went to the van and brought the new one in.

We've been American Home Shield subscribers for 15 years and overall it has been good. We have elected to maintain the warranty coverage and identified that among the competitors, American Home Shield is satisfactory. And because we've been with them for so long, even though the initial visit price has continued to increase (from $50 to $75) and the annual fee is steep, we plan to renew by the end of this month.

I signed up and was told that it would cover all expenses with regards to the air conditioner except the $75 service charge which would belong to me. Our air conditioner was not cooling after 11 months of it working just fine. Technicians told us that it only needed 6 lbs of refrigerant which of course they charged us $500 for and wasn't covered by American Home Shield.

The technician then proceeded to tell me there was no leak and that it was only low. I asked how it got low when it worked just fine less than a few weeks ago. She told me that someone has probably stolen it out of my air conditioner. I live in a gated community, my unit is in my backyard, and my wife is a stay-at-home mother. With those odds, it's just as likely that a unicorn made off with my refrigerant. I received a second opinion stating there was definitely a leak. As a subscriber of American Home Shield, I have been met with substandard customer service, as well as service providers. Most recently I filed a claim/case more than one month ago (third week of March) and it is still unresolved. Contacting customer service alone is a nightmare. You will hold at least 15minutes before someone answers the phone. I have been transferred from one rep to the other, which adds additional time to each call.

For my currently unresolved claim, I have had to call customer service almost weekly (or biweekly) for updates since no one calls me back, only to be given different information each time I call. It was so difficult a task that I had to begin documenting to keep up. Last week my call (and hold time) lasted more than one hour! I was informed that AHS contacted the vendor (plumber) and was told they had closed my case! How could that be when the repairs were still not done? The AHS rep told me they would address the matter personally and ensure the plumbing company would make the repair (at this time replace a toilet) and she stated she would email Contractor Services to strengthen the case, and someone would call me within 48 hours.

Yet here I am calling again today (6 days later) only to find that NOTHING was done. This time I requested to speak to the 'complaint' department or higher authority and was transferred to Courtney. Through the course of explaining my NOW immense frustration and concerns with AHS and the providing company, Courtney cut me off and told me to "stop talking over" her. What? Really?! I had the conversational floor, she interrupts ME and attempts to scold ME for lamenting about the egregious experience I've had in trying to have a home repair done that was reported six weeks ago! Clearly she is dire need of training regarding what real customer service is.

I cannot be more disgusted with this company, and am now searching through reviews of other home warranty companies, as I am done with this one. As a college administrator, I am well versed in customer service and therefore know what it looks like, and what it doesn't. American Home Shield is truly wanton in the area of customer care.

I have never written a review in the past but in this instance, I felt that it was important to share my terrible experiences with this company. A friend had convinced me to sign up with them stating that when appliances are broken, they are quick to replace them. We contacted them on several occasions. We called them initially for our garbage disposal and one of A/C units. Neither of them were working efficiently and we were told by prior servicemen that both needed to be replaced. We had paperwork to support this. However, when the American Home Shield servicemen came they stated that since the units actually "turned on", they would not replace them despite the fact that neither of these appliances worked.

The workman who came to 'service' the AC unit came by for 5 minutes, turned on the A/C, said it was working fine and then stated that I owed the company $100.00 for a visit and threateningly implied that I was submitting a fraudulent claim - irregardless of the fact that the temperature in the house on this summer day was actually hotter inside the house than outside the home when the A/C unit was supposedly working just fine. His manner was so abrasive and aggressive that my 13-year-old 20 pound beagle who is the most passive dog ever, growled at him repeatedly.

The worse experience however was with our dryer. The dryer did not dry the clothes at all - we had at least 5 different American Home Shield servicemen who came to the house and stated that they needed to try to repair it before they would replace it. These visits lasted for more than 8 months and the dryer never functioned. They finally admitted that the dryer was broken but the company that did the review never sent the final report into American Home Shield despite repeated calls from me. This was unbelievable - no dryer with 3 kids for more than 8 months. Finally, in utter frustration after less than a year, we cancelled our policy with American Home Shield. I have NEVER had this type of experience. I believe this company to be fraudulent and self-serving. What a shame that they are still in business. It's hard for me to believe that my family has had a truly horrible and negative experience with them.

I've been with AHS for over 8 years. Up until this last year, we've had reasonably fair service. But, on the last three service calls they either sent out completely incompetent or completely dishonest service companies to my home. They covered the installation of a shower drain, pan and p-trap to replace a fiberglass shower stall that had cracked. The plumber they sent out put the drain in completely crooked. It was out of level and was very difficult for the tile guy to install the floor slope properly.

They sent a plumber out to clear a clog in a bathroom sink. I informed the plumber that, due to the way the drain was piped in the wall (a hard 90* angle), the drain had to be snaked from the roof vent. The plumber refused to go on the roof, attempted to snake the drain through the wall and ended up cracking the pipe in the wall. Had to tear open a bedroom wall to repair. What a mess! A week later, the drain was clogged again. AHS sent out the same plumber and he did EXACTLY the same thing, requiring the bedroom wall to be torn open again. AHS did not reimburse me for the second drywall repair.

They sent Third Generation Plumbers (Tampa, FL) to repair a leaky shower valve. THIS COMPANY IS COMPLETELY DISHONEST! DO NOT USE!!! The tech said the cartridge was calcified and could not be replaced and had $550.00 in additional "necessary" non-covered charges on the work order. Being suspicious of this, I called a local plumber for a second opinion. MY plumber ended up simply replacing the cartridge, that Third Generation said could not be replaced. A quick and inexpensive fix that, had I used Third Generation Plumbing, would have cost over $625.00 in non-covered expenses. I complained to AHS. The operations manager refused to refund the $75 service fee. I cancelled my contract with AHS as a result. They would rather sacrifice a $480.00 a year service contract with an 8-year client than refund a $75 service fee. Stupid business decision for sure.

He left and now my oven door won't shut and the light that was not able to shut off before (that was the original problem) is now not working at all. I just called them and they said the technician said everything was fine. I left a message for a supervisor and have not heard back from anyone. I am on hold AGAIN for 29 minutes so far to complain and still holding. I am a realtor and often wondered about this warranty. I would NEVER recommend them based upon their lack in interest in correcting this experience. Obviously with how long you have to hold to complain, I am not the only one that feels this way.

He agreed and told me that I would have warranty from AHS.

After closing dates, I called AHS about upgrading the policy. The representative told me that I have a warranty from them (American Home Shield). I paid the $149 to upgrade my warranty! Last week, I received a letter from HSA warranty that I have the warranty with them! I called immediately to AHS and they told me that HSA is their sister company! I called my realtor and HSA. They said only AHS can help me to switch.

From this time, I believe all company are the same. They try get your money, not help you. I spoke on the phone 2 hours and finally, AHS representative, Christine, hang up the phone! This is our first year having an American Home Shield warranty. When our washing machine broke I filed a repair request and they quickly sent out a repair company. However, that company turned out to be incompetent; they spent the next 3.5 weeks replacing 4 parts in the washer and it still did not work; that company then gave up. American Home Shield sent out another company who fixed the washer in 5 minutes (a cable was placed in backwards).

All in all, it took us a month and over $100 in quarters and 5 hours at the laundromat to get the machine fixed; my children also had to wear dirty athletic uniforms several times due to lack of easy access to a washer. When I called to complain after the first 2 weeks of no washer, the AHS service woman was very polite but did nothing to help. I am very disappointed in my AHS experience so far. I hope it gets better. I am unlikely to renew next year given this experience. It is not worth theoretically saving money to go through this!

The contractor did a good job and made sure everything was working before he left. The AC is still working great. AHS is convenient and I haven’t had any issues with getting things fixed quick. I haven’t waited a long time. The contractors I’ve dealt with were good and have done good work. I’ve recommended AHS to my cousin who’s looking to buy a house within the next couple of months. The only thing I’ve run into with AHS is they don’t have any electricians who are insured or licensed that service my area, and there are some electrical things I need to get done.

My wife and I have been in this house since February of 2016. Everything seemed to be working well. On 4/21 at 4:45 am, I awoke to a frigid house. We live in Montana and the weather is usually rather unpredictable until mid to late May. I mention this because I awoke to a 50 degree house and an outside temperature of 29. I put in a service request. The contractor (whom I know and have worked with before) came over and found that the combustion chamber was malfunctioning and leaking CO2 into the house. The heat transfer box was clogged (and sealed, so it cannot be cleaned) and part of the air conditioning system (it is a central heat and air situation) was missing. I was, later that day, informed that the heater could be replaced after a bid had been submitted and approved.

As of 4/30, I still have no heat and the contractor is still waiting for an approval of some kind. I have yet to hear from American Home Shield in any way what-so-ever. By 4/29 I had had enough. I tried calling. I ended up in the phone pool for half an hour listening to Mrs. Elmer Fudd redirect my call and re-entering my contract and contact information over and over. I gave up on that.

Got on the site and started a chat session. Fifteen minutes later(!!!) I get a support person on the screen and ask for information regarding the heating system. I was told that they may be replacing the heater pending determination. When I asked about the included central air, I was told that they would only be replacing the heater. When I asked if I would then be turning in another request for service on the air conditioner, the person said that they would only replace the A/C unit because of mechanical failure. Huh??? You're going to remove it when you replace the heater. If it wasn't broken, it will be. The house came with central heat and air and now I have neither. Ten days in Montana with no heat... Brilliant.

To add insult to injury, on 4/28 I used that bathroom, not unusual, right... to use the bathroom in the house when you wake up... to have both toilets, two tubs and a shower back up to the point of running sewage all over the floor in two rooms. Service call placed, blah, blah, blah. Plumber shows up at 4:30 pm the next day, rips some siding off to see if he can find a clean-out. There isn't one. The house has been here 20 years and has never had to have the lines snaked. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not.

An hour later, he called in for approval. Twenty minutes after that, they said that they wouldn't cover the call because the house didn't have an external clean-out 3 feet outside the house. They still haven't resolved the problem. You know... the sewage in the house and not leaving the house. I get informed that I am now paying for the call, the resolving of the issue, supplies, etc. and am asked what I want to do "'coz it's going to get dark soon". Rather snidely, I replied, "If I wanted a house without running water, no heat and no A/C, I would have bought a cabin in the woods." Of course, I told him to clear the drains.

In the process, we found that there has been a problem for quite some time. One of the shower drains isn't connected to the shower base. It's been leaking under the house for some time. It's soaked under there. He didn't fix it so I still have a rag stuffed in the drain to keep things from coming up into the bathroom even though they cleared the line.

So I now have two huge holes under my house, no heat, no a/c, and what is looking like two huge bills I shouldn't have. And, I get to have someone fix the two holes and replace the siding, so that's three bills. This warranty isn't even enough to be a joke. Thank goodness it isn't December/January. It tends to get well below zero for weeks at a time here. I know the HVAC/plumbing tech and have no problem with him. I understand that he wants to make sure he's going to get paid for the time. Not worth it.

Tech called renter after a week, renter informed the technician that owner replaced the fridge. Tech never came back again. Many times called AHS to rectify the fridge, no one came. Their excuse was I replaced the fridge. Such a nasty company.

Sewage clogged, so I called AHS plenty of time. They did not know whether it is covered or not. Finally found covered. They created a service call and no company was there to service for next 48 hours. AHS don't care. How can a water leak can be kept for long time. I had to get permission from AHS for outside vendor and AHS never paid even after getting permission.

Again sewage clogged. Again emergency, all I know their service sucks, so had to call outside company. So I was calling AHS from 8:30 am till 2:00pm to get outside vendor authorization. No proper response. I got connected one time to customer specialist, and she asked me to call when the vendor is onsite. Also confirm me that they will approve as long as wear and tear. I called and called plenty of time. Waited for hours to call to a specialist. Total waste of time. Finally technician serviced the clog and left the site. I was able to connect to customer specialist at 4:30pm to hear that they are not approving the outside authorization. Totally waste. I pay premium monthly and I have to take care of all my issues. Our air conditioning unit was not cooling properly on April 15th. I requested service from American Home Shield, our warranty company, for the air conditioning unit. They sent me an email on April 18th saying that they would send out a contractor from a company called GREENWAY HOME SERVICES, LLC. The contractor said that there was a leak in the indoor coil and one of their specialists was going to contact me about solution options after that weekend. He said that he was going to check the outdoor coil. I noticed that he was releasing Freon from the outside coil into the air. He also shut down our entire air conditioning unit from the attic without my permission. The specialist called me that following Monday after 2 days in sweltering heat and told me that the whole air conditioning unit had to be replaced. The specialist informed me that I would have to pay $3500 out of pocket to replace the unit.

The temperature was upwards of 90 degrees inside my house. I called a local company to expedite the solution because of the intense temperature. The local company told me that my unit did not need to be replaced and that the coil was the only part that needed to be replaced. The whole process would cost me only $900 with a one year warranty included in the price and not $3500 through American Home Shield out of pocket. I contacted AHS customer service to reimburse me for the $900 bill. I was told that I would not be covered because it was not the company that they sent. It is unbelievable that even with a full warranty through American Home Shield, I was told to pay for a repair that I did not need and they refused to reimburse me after the contractor that was sent failed to be professional.

I had a major plumbing issue and water had to be turned off to both bathrooms at 7 a.m. -- not toilets or showers were usable. After contacting AHS for service, I was informed no one could get out here until the next day. I just had Breast Cancer surgery a few days before and my sister had flown from the East Coast to care for me.

At first, the person I spoke with was helpful but when she could not get someone out to my house, I asked if I could hire a plumber and get reimbursed. She stated that AHS no longer does that and then stated "...we do not consider this an emergency." So, having no bathroom is not an emergency? I asked to be put in touch with someone else and that I was cancelling my policy as of that moment. I spoke to another person who tried to talk me out of cancelling because "...you have been with us over 11 years." I got a plumber out really late in the day but got one toilet working -- the other's seal broke and had a massive water leak which involved my homeowner's insurance having to do water damage remediation. "We will give you two service calls free."

I live in the rural area so my sister and I had to walk down the road to a neighbor's house to use their bathroom. I was given a confirmation number for the cancellation and was told my auto debit was also stopped. The next day, I receive another call from AHS wanting to work things out. They would give me 2 service calls free. No deal! I verified my cancellation of my policy and auto payment stop. I also sent an email verifying my cancellation.

The next month, my account was debited. I call again and am told it was past 30 days before I called. Excuse me! I cancelled my policy! I was informed someone would be calling me within 3 business days. 30 days later, no communication at all! (I work long hours and travel over 2 hours total for work. I do not get time to call and cell coverage is spotty in my travel). The next month, my account is debited again!

The following month I get an email that my account cannot be debited and I will lose coverage! Are you kidding me? I call again and, even though the person I am speaking with is reading everything I stated in my file, she states that before I can be reimbursed, she has to talk to her supervisor to make sure I am DUE a reimbursement. I ask her to explain what she means and I am told my file has to be reviewed.

I cancelled my policy; received 3 confirmations and was informed my auto debit payment was stopped. I was informed I would receive a call within 2 days. I NEVER got a call. A month late I get a check for one month's debit reimbursement with a curt explanation that there was a service fee for cancelling my policy. Eleven years with a company that I used less than 5 times and now a "restocking fee"? There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of AHS' business ethics. This is similar to someone hacking my checking account! Plus, it cost me $1200 for a plumber, $1000 deductible on my insurance, and the master bathroom torn apart (walls cut open, floors ripped out), and dehumidifiers in the house for a week! So much for recovering peacefully from Breast Cancer surgery! My next complaint will be to BBB.

My biggest concern with this company is that if you make a service call after a certain time on Friday you have to wait 24-48 business hours before you get a call from a service technician. Meaning whatever is broke you have to go without the entire weekend. I was told if it was an emergency situation they can try and have it EXPEDITED. I find that to be ridiculous that you pay for service and it's only available M-F. I hope someone reading this would take in considerations that there is not set time when something stops working. The biggest issue I’ve had was with the heat and air, and trying to find somebody that will show up. So I called AHS and had a local contractor repair the unit and I just submitted the bill for reimbursement.

Garage Door Opener. Contractor came out. Charged me $75 for moving my sensor with his hand from one position (which is the position he put it in to a better position per him). This was a recall on the garage door opener in which they installed a new one in March. This is in fact a second recall and second problem since they installed it. I am not happy with the representative I spoke who said she had to take the contractor's word and not take what I had to say in consideration. I feel no matter what the contractor say according to her response, that AHS will side with them. He told her we had boxes in the garage which was and is a LIE and I feel I should be reimbursed for what they took from me especially when my appointment was at 1pm. He came early at 11:30 because he was in the neighborhood, (meaning it didn't cost them a thing to come to my home and move the sensor with their hands) REALLY!!!

Poor customer service, especially before the appointment was set. AHS screened the problem, set up the appointment (no one ever said, "Sounds like a sensor problem, if so you will be charged a fee"). Same thing with the contractor. If this is a problem they see happening all the time and what I said was happening matched what they see, why not exercise good customer service and say "Ma'am check your sensors blah blah blah..." If this is a new since March, install and I am having an issue "before 60 days" why find a reason to charge me when you may or may not have fixed my problem?

I live close to the airport. If it jumps off again then what??? I was feeling good about AHS until today. The mom and pops of the world they hire should not be able to take advantage of hard working citizens and then to have a reps say "Well he said this and we have to believe them" is a slap to the face. Who are we to go to for a problem with that mentality? Thank you.

I submitted a claim over the phone for a dishwasher. The process was quick, simple, and well-explained. However, the contractors had to come out twice. The first person American Home Shield sent was a little condescending and rude. So I called them and they sent somebody else who took care of the problem. I haven't had any problems since the repair and I have peace of mind with AHS.

My experience with AHS has been astonishingly bad. The final nail in AHS's coffin with me happened about 8 months ago. The service providers they had sent out to my home were consistently late for appointments and hard to schedule. I made the decision to cancel the policy, primarily due to the wait times from AHS (I have had to wait a minimum of 20 minutes to get a hold of a live person from AHS) and the poor quality of service providers they had sent to my home. When I called AHS I waited 20 minutes to reach a customer service rep who told me I needed to be transferred to the retention department. The retention department was closed on the weekends so I had to call back on Monday.

On the following Monday I waited 30 minutes to get through to a live retention rep. The retention rep offered 2 free service calls to get me to stay. I accepted the offer, figuring I would give AHS two more chances to improve. 6 months later our clothes dryer broke again. I called AHS and was informed I would need to pay the provider a service fee. As you can imagine I was very upset, feeling like AHS had essentially stolen 6 months of premium from me. The dryer broke over on a Saturday. The next day my wife and I decided to simply cancel the service call, purchase a new washer and dryer and end our relationship with AHS.

I called the cancellation number on Monday again waiting 20-30 minutes to reach a representative who told me my 2 service credits were in the system and she didn't understand why customer service would not have told me they were there. She indicated that the member service rep even noted after the call that she missed the credits. The retention rep told me she understood why I wanted to cancel and gave me a direct number to reach her once I found another home warranty company. Two messages were left for the rep without a callback. I then called back again waiting 30 minutes to reach another rep who told me she could not email any details about how long my policy would be in place for or how much I would have to pay to keep the policy in place until my service would start with my new provider. I asked to speak to a supervisor, left a message that was never returned.

Three weeks go by and I get a notice from AHS that my account is past due. Apparently AHS took my credit card off the account but didn't cancel the policy. I asked the customer service rep what I would need to pay until the start of my policy with my new provider. She told me she couldn't calculate the partial payment but I would have to pay the past due balance plus a pro-rated share but I couldn't do that through her, that I would need to be transferred to retention for that. 20 minutes on hold, get to a retention rep who tells me they don't pro-rate policies and because I paid a month in advance I don't need to pay anything else. Essentially the exact opposite of what the member service told me. I told her I wanted to speak to a supervisor to get clarification on what the real story was, she said she would have someone contact me within 48 hours.

It's now been 72 hours without a call, I have passed this off to my wife as I am completely done dealing with AHS. We have a new policy next month, that covers more while we pay a lower premium and lower service fee. I can't remember having a worse experience with a vendor of any type than I have had with AHS. I would strongly recommend anyone looking for a home warranty choose a different provider.

There were two toilet and one bathtub repairs that I filed with American Home Shield. They were very successful and they had good, friendly and very accommodating contractors that fixed it up for me. Since then, everything worked beautifully. It's a very businesslike association and I'm well-pleased with the contracts, the arrangement, and work that they've done. I would recommend them to anyone that would have any kind of problems. And on my latest route, I'm fixing to call them again as I've got two things that I need to do here lately.

In February this year, I called AHS with service issues on 3 faucets and water closet. They sent Lindsay Company on 13 Feb who fixed the closet and reported to AHS that the faucets were broken by force - all three of them (imagine that!!). While at my house, the contractor told me that they get $50 for this service and it was not worth his time to repair these faucets as it will take him a long time to order parts etc.

I updated AHS about the loose statement from Lindsay who did not bother investigating it. I requested for a second opinion and Infinite home solutions was sent on 15 Feb. They reported back that the faucets had worn out due to normal wear and tear and will need time to order the parts. This contractor unscrew and opened up my faucets and kept them open in parts as he informed me that he would be coming back soon to repair them once he gets the parts. I made AHS aware of this situation and asked them to enter this in their notes in the system.

After almost a month of no news, I called AHS who were unable to get hold of them and sent another contractor, Kintex plumbing who reported that the faucets had been opened and it would not be possible to asses them. I was called by AHS who I informed that I could put the faucets together but I will not be responsible for anything, alternatively, they could send Infinite home solutions to fix them back. AHS agreed for me to put them back so that they could send Kintex plumbing back to fix them. Kintex came back to my place on 2 April and then I heard nothing either from AHS or the contractor for a week.

I called AHS again and they sent another contractor called SWG plumbing on 7 April who fixed one of the faucets after receiving the parts for the same and reported to AHS that the other two faucets on the tub had been broken and needed access to be fixed. On inquiring from AHS, I was told that they had overturned the report from SWG for the two faucets and they would be repairing it shortly, but I would need to bear the cost of access as it was not covered. I was told to wait for the quotation from them. I agreed.

A week later SWG called me and informed me that AHS had not approved the repair of the two faucets. I called up AHS yet again who informed me that they had approved the repairs and did not understand where the confusion was and assured me that they will look into this matter. I received an email from AHS confirming that another contractor, Bailey Plumbing, had been authorized to take a look at the faucets now. Confused, I called up AHS today and was told that they have decided to not approve the repair of two faucets because these are not normal wear and tear. I argued my case as above and the fact that second opinion had reported them as normal wear and tear and even gone ahead and opened/unscrewed the faucets with the intention of fixing them. This was also the reason that a third contractor was sent to fix the faucets, when Infinite home solutions disappeared.

I think this is quite unfair, after positive second opinion, nearly 3 months of runaround, 5 different contractors, my faucets remain unfixed. Moreover, the contractor, Infinite home solutions had opened/unscrewed them, I don't know if they have broken anything in the process. I remain completely awed by how this entire thing was handled by AHS and their authorization dept. At the end I was provided with an email id, ahsclaimreview@ahslink.com and told to go and lodge my complain there. I was informed that I could not take this any further and that their decision was final. How very unethical!

I've been on the phone with AHS almost daily this week of April 26th and have asked numerous times to speak with a manager and no one ever calls you back. Also, it's my responsibility to call AHS to see about any updates, no one calls you to let you know about an issue or diagnosis. I have now had a nonworking downdraft/exhaust fan on my gas stove and the stove still makes numerous clicks when you turn on the gas. Nothing has been repaired and no updates. I always get the runaround! I'm very upset with the way AHS has treated me as a customer.

I wrote a review several years ago because of problems with AHS. Since then we have not had any problems with them, but I do have to be the squeaky wheel oftentimes. However, we are currently having a problem and they are claiming they won't fix it because they don't cover missing parts. The absurd thing is THEY ARE THE LAST ONES TO HAVE FIXED THIS BATHTUB VALVE and the plumber THEY HIRED either incorrectly installed it, or left a part out and now they are refusing to fix it.

This has resulted in a massive leak that has now gone into the ceiling in the bathroom directly below this bathtub and now we have a MAJOR issue. AHS has been out several times to fix this issue and each time I complain because it's never fixed correctly. They do the cheapest fix possible, not necessarily the "right" fix. Now we have a massive issue on our hands AND they are refusing to take responsibility. They are claiming we have only been customers for 3 years and can't see all of our records when in fact we have been customers for close to 7 years! They are full of excuses as to what is not covered. Very frustrating company to deal with.

It wasn't horrible but it was a little frustrating because of the timing that was associated, which it had to do with the holidays. The technician kept coming back, which is fine, since he doesn't have the parts. But he was rather rude about it. That was a little bit of my hindrance on it. Another thing is that I haven't got confirmation in the fact that I sent my money to renew my policy with them.

So my washing machine goes out yesterday, and I submit a service request on AHS's website. I was really impressed. I could schedule service for today, with a window of 1-5 p.m. That was important because my wife is 39 1/2 weeks pregnant and she's going to have the baby by the end of the week. So we need our washing machine when we get home.

I called Sears (AHS's chosen contractor) at 1 p.m. to confirm the appointment, which they did, for 1-5 pm. My wife and I waited at home, but alas, nobody showed up. So I called Sears at 5 p.m. and was told "Yeah, he's running late. He'll be there between 5:30 and 6." So I say that I assume they'll waive the $75 service call fee since they failed to show up, and failed to even give me a heads up that they'd be late. They tell me no, I've got to take that up with AHS.

So I call AHS, and they tell me there's nothing they can do about them not showing up, and that if I want to discuss a waiver of the $75 service call fee, I need to take it up with Sears. At which point I lose my patience. I cannot stand a runaround and to see two "service" providers point the finger at each other sets me off. So I go off on a bit of a rant about how horrible their customer service is and how if this doesn't get resolved I will take legal action against them. Admittedly, I wasn't very polite at this point, but you can't just tell your customers "too bad" when your contractor fails to show up for a job and expect them to be happy.

So we wait until 6 p.m.. Still no service tech. And no phone call letting me know when he'll be there. So I call Sears - now for the third time - and they tell me they have no clue when - or even if - the tech will be there. They say he still has two houses before mine, and they don't work overtime. So I demand a supervisor, who can't do anything for me but "submit a case" and promise to "request" that a tech show up tomorrow. No promises as to time.

So I call AHS back and tell them that this is the most abhorrent example of customer service I have ever experienced. Finally I dealt with someone willing to own the problem. Mind you, not willing to waive the fee (heaven help them if they actually offered an apology with some actual meaning behind it), but they did say Sears would be coming between 1-5 tomorrow and that they'd go to a new contractor if they still failed to show up (claiming that my contract gives them 48 hours to have someone on site, although I don't see that on their contract, and they offered an unambiguous 4 hour window when booking the appointment).

In my review of the contract, I did find something telling. Twice they say that they'll terminate the contract or refuse to provide service "In the event you threaten to harm, or actually harm, the safety or well being of AHS, any employee of AHS, a Service Contractor, or any property of AHS or the Service Contractor." Seems like a fairly common sense provision and reasonable. But what's it say that your customer service is so bad that you drive your customers to that level of frustration frequently enough that this needs to be stated TWICE in the agreement?

Of course, none of this means much because you'll probably get stuck with this contract after your realtor (who surely gets a commission on the transaction) picks it and the seller pays for it. Sure fire recipe for dismal customer service. We'll see if the tech shows up tomorrow or if they are actually able to perform the service. To say that I'm lacking confidence would be an understatement.

I have had a policy with American Home Shield for a number of months on a rental property I own and had a couple claims handled great. One was my dryer; the other was an electrical issue. The third issue I have had has been handled horribly by AHS. We had a contractor out to my rental home in November to fix the dishwasher and the guy never really fixed it. The guy told my renter to run it a couple times after his first visit and it will work. A short time later my renter contacted me telling me that the dishwasher does not work properly. After having the guy out a couple more times with the guy unsuccessfully fixing the issue I was told that they would offer me money to replace the dishwasher or they could order the parts at no extra cost. The dishwasher I had in the house was stainless steel and the amount offered would not have been enough to replace the dishwasher so I decided to just have them fix it. Apparently it was the motor.

The contractor came out once more and stayed for an hour and a half replacing parts that did not need replacing and spoke in a negative manner about me to my renter. After that the contractor dodged our requests for weeks telling us he ordered the wrong parts. My renter became so frustrated with this it started to affect my relationship with them. I then called back AHS and said "Can you offer the amount toward replacing again so we can just be done with this matter since it had been 4 months" and was told "NO". So I cancelled the request and had to replace the dishwasher myself.

This is not why I signed up for this contract and my phone calls and emails since where I have requested reimbursement for the dishwasher have been met by being told that they will not reimburse me for the dishwasher. I tried to get to a supervisor and I have been repeatedly told that they cannot send me to a supervisor. All of this because they were unable to send out a contractor that could fix the old one in 4 months' time. I live an hour away from the property and signed up for this warranty to make things easier for my rental property but after this instance I'm not so sure I want to continue using a company that makes my life more complicated than it needs to be.

Updated on 05/16/2016: I have had a previous complaint closed out without resolve stating "inaccurate information" as to which I was never contacted about what exactly was inaccurate. The way that my claim for reimbursement and the matter all together has been handled has been extremely unprofessional. I was sent out a contractor that very poorly represented your company and never fixed the issue that I requested so I had to fix it myself. Although at one point reimbursement was offered after I requested it to just be fixed the contractor never wanted to come back out. He told my renter he wasn't getting paid for return visits. This is not inaccurate information, it is what occurred. You will continue to hear from me publicly and through my 3rd request through AHS claims email until this matter is addressed properly. Thank you.

I pulled up my bank account and found where I have send them each month's checks and I was currently ahead (my account was due on the 28th I paid on the 18th). But they had no record so I had to get copies of it all and send it to them. That took them until about 6pm on the 26th to get this entered so I could finally make a claim (which they never said it was their error that they did not apply my 159.57 (3 months) worth of checks into my correct account). After all this was said and done I am now not getting service on my house until the 29th!

They are very rude and VERY disrespectful. This is actually my 2nd time contacting them on a claim. The first one was a Saturday night. My sewer backed up. Called and they said it was covered and they would have someone call me MONDAY. I told them how is that acceptable. I could not use running water and had a flooded basement and kids. They said it's not their problem. They don't do emergency. Needless to say for what you pay and how untimely this is it is not worth the money... I will be canceling this as it would be cheaper and FASTER to take care of it all myself!

The last time I submitted a claim with American Home Shield was a year ago in November and our plumbing was all backed up. I was leaving on a cruise, leaving my disabled daughter who fends for herself, but I couldn’t get them to come. They couldn’t guarantee me anything for 24 or 48 hours, and I was a little bit disgusted. It was an emergency for me because my daughter has digestive issues and we use the bathroom all the time. I couldn’t just leave her with no working toilet so I had to get an outside plumber to come in and they were there in 20 minutes. I haven’t had any repairs since.

In the past, though, American Home Shield have come and repaired my stove and replaced my water heater. They’ve also worked on my washing machine. I now have new appliances like a new washer and dryer as of Christmas time. So in general, I’ve been pleased with them, except that one time when I couldn’t get them to get back to me in a timely manner.

If you need a company to warranty your home DO NOT use this company unless you only want to cover non-essential potential problems. If you want to cover a leaky faucet or anything that you are prepared to live with for days or even weeks then you might like the services, but if you want coverage for an essential home appliance then you should look into someone else.

I, sadly, bought a warranty contract from them. Friday 4/22/2016 my hot water heater started to leak. I immediately put in a work order to have someone look at it. When I hadn't received a call from the plumbing service that they use a contractor in my area by 4/25/2016 I called the plumber because the only telephone number they give you is the normal business line and not any type of an emergency number. That plumber told me that he couldn't even look at my water heater until 4/28/2016 so I called AHS and they found another plumber that was able to come out and check my water heater that day, 4/25/2016.

The plumber came out and said that the heater needed to be replaced so he contacted AHS and they ordered a new water heater. Today is 4/27/2016 and I hadn't heard from the plumber about scheduling the replacement, so I called them. The plumber told me that they hadn't received the new water heater yet and suggested I call AHS to find out the status of the order. I called AHS and they informed me that the replacement water heater had been ordered and was scheduled to be delivered on 4/29/2016. So, this means that if the plumber gets the heater on 4/29/2016 then he may or may not install it, depending on what his schedule is that day.

So my experience has been that AHS's response time to a leaking water heater is 7+ days. I repeat, if you want to cover a leaky faucet or anything that you are prepared to live with for days or even weeks then you might like the services, but if you want coverage for an essential home appliance then you should look into someone else.

I scheduled an appt with AHS for my washer. The Tech arrived and said the washer needed a timer. In about 3 days tech came back to put new timer on. Next thing I know, he is in my breaker box. Then, he says that the new timer is defective and doesn't work. He showed me that he put old timer back on and the washer worked. The only problem is it's back to just washing in cold water. My washer was connected to a surge protector, which the tech blew when he put new timer on. Tech said he would be back when replacement part came in. A few days later, I got a call from this young lady with AHS and that they wouldn't fix my washer because her secretary and the tech got their heads together and said my washer was on an extension cord and my house was going to burn down!

Actually, I was so surprised at her rudeness and the fact that never had any of my appliances been on an extension cord! I knew by the Tech's unprofessional language on the day that the part was defective, that he was upset, but I didn't think he would tell a lie about the washer being on an extension cord. Well, then they told another lie that I had a power surge. People, hello, I have a power surge strip connected to washer and the only time my power surge strip has thrown was when the befuddled tech connected the new timer. I really think he connected it incorrectly and thankfully, I had a surge strip on it!

I requested that another tech look at it and after a couple of weeks and having to explain the same circumstances over and over, one looked at washer and came up with different diagnosis, but he couldn't find a model no and said he wasn't allowed to repair without a model no. AHS has repaired same washer before. Again, I call AHS and talked to Blake, who actually was the first nice person that I had talked to. He told me that they could do a part search just as soon as they received the second repairman' diagnosis.

That was April 15. Still waiting! I can see that they are not going to repair my washer; the story they made up about extension cord connected to appliance was totally a lie. We were entitled to the repair, but they choose to lose our business. If we were in the wrong, I could understand. We feel like we have been violated and nothing we can do but cancel our account. I have recommended this company but never again. I would never want my acquaintances and friends to suffer this circumstance. I can tell by looking at listed reviews that bad reviews are marked 'factual basis uncertain'.

It took them about 3 weeks to attempt the first repair, which failed. I reopened the issue and now it's two months in without a fix. Miller Pools doesn't return phone calls or e-mails and if by chance I can get a hold of them, they tell me it'll be a few more days, which inevitably go by without hearing from them.

I've called AHS several times and each time they try to contact Miller Pools, sometimes connecting with them and other times not being able to reach them. So then the home warranty said they needed to send out a different appliance company for a second opinion. So they came out Friday and said that we needed a new dishwasher because again everything from the motor, the pump, the heating element and the door needs to be replaced.

So now the home warranty company says they now need to send out a GE repairman for a 3rd opinion. Which last week the warranty company said after the 2nd opinion vines back saying we need a new dishwasher then we will get a new one. I now have been told that it will take a week and a half to get GE to come out. Why didn't they send out the GE person for the second opinion? My time is being wasted and 2 months is a long time for a 300$ dishwasher to get fixed. SO MAD.

Pay AHS $38 a month for the warranty. Have an appliance go out on you. File a claim, they send their "authorized repair person." He/she shows up and takes apart your appliance. Tell a few parts can be ordered but if you were to fix it you wouldn't be happy with the repair. They recommend a cashout. "Authorized repair person" now takes a check from you for $125 - his fee as part of your warranty. You then wait, wait, wait for AHS to call. They tell you "You get $225. You have to pay the difference for the desired replaced appliance. That's $240." So you pay $240. $125 for "Authorized repair person" to take apart your appliance and not put it back together and tell you to take the cash out $38 a month. This is how much the appliance cost just to buy outright. This is quite the con.

Repair person gets $125 for spending 20 minutes telling you to cash out. He tells AHS it can be fixed but doesn't tell them he told you that you wouldn't be happy with the repair and everyone makes out but you. He gets $125 for 20 minutes work. AHS only has to pay you $225. You keep paying them $38 a month and you spend over $365 for the month for this kind of service.

The contractor had a look at the washing machine and then he submitted a report that it would cost more to repair it than to replace it, so AHS sent me an agreed upon amount. I then bought a new washing machine and I don’t have any complaints about it. AHS is a good value for the amount of money I put in. It was a very positive experience on the whole.

I had an oven that needed replacing and American Home Shield did it. They couldn't get a part and so they gave us an allowance and we picked out a new one. Submitting a claim with them was easy. I initially started out online and then had a couple of conversations on the phone with a representative and they seemed professional and courteous and able to answer my questions. Then we had two contractors from different companies that came out because someone had to deliver it and then somebody else had to install it and there were no problems on their part and they were respectful and on time.

We have had a couple of other times where we have contacted them for someone to come out and the company that they would refer us to was not always great about getting back. It was different companies, but sometimes I had to follow through and make sure that the message got through and that we were scheduled for an appointment. So even though American Home Shield supposedly set it up through a company local, but that local company did not always read their messages right away.

We just had a call April 22nd. We were given the name of the repair business. When I called them, I was told that the earliest appointment they had was April 29th. I have attempted to call them back twice to coordinate a local point of contact and got voicemail with no response both times. I do not know if other home warranty companies take as long to respond to needs but I am upset with the need to wait as much as a week for repairs.

On Apr 3rd 2016 my washer malfunctioned so on April 4th I submitted a request for repair online for AHS to send someone to fix my machine. As it turns out I entered the wrong manufacturer of my machine so I called to them to update their system. On Apr 5 a technician came out and quickly said he couldn't repair it because he does not service the washer. I called back to AHS who assigned a different contractor. That contractor came out Apr 7 and said a part needed to be ordered and it would take 3-5 business days. I wanted 3 business days and call the contractor and was informed that the part was order on Fri April 8 and not the days the contractor came out and that I needed to wait the 5 business calls.

5 days passed and no contact from contractor or AHS. So I called AHS who said they could not get a hold of the contractor but someone would call me back on that Mon. No call so I called that Mon and was told the contractor was trying to secure a part. I called the contractor and they said they couldn't get the part and that AHS was going to order it. So I called AHS and was told the part is on back order and they are trying to get it via their purchasing department. Still no call so I called again and was told part on back order and not given an ETA. I called AHS again and was told there is a option on my account and needed to speak to the purchasing group. I was annoyed and called back to AHS to get a supervisor and was told it would take 48 hours. The rep then said he could get me to the purchasing department. I called that group and was finally informed that the part I needed was on back order until May 30 but I had a buyout.

I started looking for a new washer based on this and found something. So I called AHS and was told my out of pocket would be 456.20 and that I am responsible for installation and removal. How annoyed so I called AHS and was told there was nothing I could do. So I asked for a manager and explained the situation and he was unapologetic and said nothing. He explained the contract and said well then I could wait for the part. Then I reminded him that my account showed a $75 service fee and he said he would have to check with the contractor. I said I was told it shouldn't be there as I had paid the fee. He said he had to call them. I said the contractor would not have ordered the parts if I had not paid. He said he didn't know that.

At the end of the conversation I cancelled my plan and went with a different provider. I recognize that it was going to take weeks before a new part came. But NO ONE ever called me. I found this out by calling. Then the payout is ridiculous. Why would I pay $456 for something that did not include removal and installation? The supervisor provided poor customer service and he didn't even act like he understood my issue. Perhaps offer to credit me the $50.33 while I wait for the part.

The bearing on an inducer motor that goes on a furnace were worn out according to the repairman. But he said AHS will not pay for the repair because it has to be completely broke and not running. So I said I don’t need American Shield then if they're not going to take care of the repair. So, I didn't submit a claim. And it was a $425 motor. After that, he came back again and it was the same problem. It was getting worse and he still said that they would not replace it because it has to be totally broke down and it cannot be running. So I let it go at that time. When term is up for this year’s renewal, I decided not to renew. When it's the middle of wintertime, even in Georgia, it can be cold. Why it has to be completely broken and not running without heat before they’ll fix it under the warranty when the part is basically identified that it is bad, and the bearings are making a lot of grinding sounds on the motor. I was completely disappointed with them.

You don’t need to put details, since you just have to click on faucets, for example. After that, the business contacted me and then I could give some details to them. The contractors, however, damaged the faucets. There was no need to put a plier into the faucet that was middle to middle, so they scratched it. They first tried to act like, “Well, it was too hard to open,” and I’m like, “Well, you can put something in between and not scratch it.” Anyway, they ended up replacing the damaged parts. But I still wasn’t happy with the contractors. They should be just more careful handling property that’s somebody else’s. But they did what they were supposed to and things have been working since the repair.

The most recent claim we had was something about the air conditioner. They came out and said that our air conditioner was a window-mounted one so it wasn't covered. We tried to explain we weren't calling about the air conditioner, but about the electricity. They didn't help us with that one, unfortunately. Nevertheless, we have had other good experiences with American Home Shield. Their reps have been great and are very polite on the phone. They're decent and they call back to let us know what's going on. All of the contractors they've sent out here have been really good, too. When we had a problem with our furnace wherein the heat box had cracked and the furnace needed to be replaced, they got somebody out here, and they replaced it. We didn't pay the full price for that furnace. It was about a third of the price and American Home Shield picked up the rest.

I do recommend them to my friends. I just wish they had more base of contractors that they work with so that if something was wrong, it doesn't have to be one guy who can do the repair. Instead of “Well, he can't come out so it's gonna take a week,” it would be "He can't come out so we're gonna send this guy and he'll be out there tomorrow." If they had a broader base of contractors, their service would be outstanding.

American Home Shield was absolutely wonderful. I called them to submit the claim and explained what was going on. They contacted a repairman in the area and sent him out. It was very simple and they were wonderful. The contractor was also great. He was local, so he wasn't very far away. He contacted Home Shield for us, explained what the problems were, what it was going to cost to get repaired, and called us back to let us know that he had made the claim. He found out it was going to need repairs on the washing machine more than what it would cost to buy a new one, so we just bought a new one.

In fact, they did something that I did not expect. They expected the cost to repair it at $620, and we bought a brand new machine for $559. And when they reimbursed us, they sent us the $620, so it was more than what we paid for it. This was a no-brainer. They did everything for us. We have already renewed it for the next year and whatever service they have was the best I could have asked for.

My family and I are going on 3 months, 7 technicians, and over a dozen of service calls to our home to fix our refrigerator that's not cooling correctly. I am writing this necessary complaint because I contacted AHS January 2016 to looked at and repaired the refrigerator that is still not fix. AHS has only recently given us what they call "options" to replace the refrigerator at the homeowner expense or continue to request service calls until the unit is fixed by a technician approved by AHS. Another issue we have with AHS is that they had sent out a contractor to diagnose the problem with the refrigerator. And when I called AHS 3 days after the visit they stated the report hasn't came in and they would have to request another service call to our home for the same diagnosis. While on that call with AHS I requested them to call the contractor and send over the diagnostic report while I wait on the line.

After 5 minutes AHS representatives comes back and tells me the contractor added Freon and it should be OK now. I stated to AHS that is incorrect and to request the written report, not verbal information over the phone. Even though the report I have from the contractor states refrigerator not cooling, AHS insist on sending the same contractor out to do another diagnosis. After re-scheduling to come out and diagnose our refrigerator the contractor didn't show up twice in a row. And AHS want to sent the contractor and still won't replace the unit or take the report from the last visit 2 weeks ago.

Updated on 04/27/2016: This is the second review for AHS we've written for on this site. I'm noticing that AHS doesn't value their customers and will do whatever they have to do in order to keep their 5 star ratings and will dispute/remove any reviews not in their favor. This company is happy to take you money monthly and fix the little items (leaking faucet) in your home for a small service call fee ($75-$100) but when it comes down to major repairs (malfunctioning refrigerator). AHS and some of their contractors will provide the bare minimum service they see fit to make the necessary repairs, and if the repairs did not fix the issue AHS hold no responsible on getting a resolution for their customer.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a water heater. It was shaky at first, but it turned out to be really good. The shaky part was when we called in and were told we were going to have to wait for two or three days. I told them the water heater was leaking and then they expedited to get it repaired that day. We were also able to get a repair person who was closer to us than a repair person that was not even in our area. I appreciated that because it seemed ridiculous to have to wait two days when the repair needed to happen that day and we had somebody that could come that was closer to us. So ultimately that’s what we were able to do. We had to replace the water heater and AHS approved 90% of it so we were very happy with it. Both the contractors for the water heater and air conditioning claims that we were able to find that were closer in our area that AHS approved to come out were awesome and did a great job.

I just had a call the other day from AHS to remind me about my renewal. The rep took care of everything over the phone. I appreciated that they called me as a reminder to follow-up to make sure I didn’t lose coverage. They were customer-friendly and we’re very pleased with the service. When I asked why this was not clarified PRIOR TO sending a technician to my house TWICE to repair and replace my fans, the agent had no answer for me other than that I would not receive a refund of my $75 service charge. AHS makes it easy to submit a claim but very difficult to get major work completed including contractors that are questionables. It's week 4 and my higher end water heater still isn't replaced, after Spokane Falls Plumbing wouldn't come out on a Friday before his vacation (one plumber shop??), then they assigned to Snappy another one plumber shop who came out, got the approvals and bailed on the job when came time to pull permit, back to first plumber who gave me a temp fix but failed to tell me recirc pump still leaking so bad surprise when I went to check. Now Spokane Falls is states having trouble finding a (cheaper) water heater that fits without any mod. So why not order new like for like of whats in there already? Somebody doesn't like the $$$ price...

AHS or contractor incentive. This isn't transparent. Other plumbers stated it could be a next day install, so concerning AHS contractors having so much trouble. After getting finally getting a supervisor involved and 4 weeks from the service request, I am now offered buyout option to pay me directly. Tempting but remains to be seen if that is a lowball. Stay tuned. Bottom line, AHS great for small repairs, ie $75 deductible to fix your faucet and horrible on big repairs like replacing water heater, HVAV, etc, and makes the process so onerous and contractors questionable. You are tempted to just pay for quality work elsewhere. I think that is a AHS strategy.

I purchased a home and had a home warranty added. The home inspection came back that the AC was older but it seemed to be working okay. Whenever I went to the house before the loan closed the house was cool. Upon moving in the a.c. was not working. Called American Home Shield to come out. It cost $75.00 for them to tell me that it was a preexisting condition that would NOT be covered. He of course recommended a whole new unit instead of fixing it and then said it would not be covered. The repairman called AHS and they called me saying the a.c. repair would not be covered. The repairman said that it had not worked in months. Something I know was not true.

We've had American Home Shield for a very long time now. Last time we had to call them because of the plumbing, and they were very good with responding. The contractor they sent was on time, very good and professional. The issue was resolved and my plumbing is now excellent. I would recommend AHS.

Service provider was excellent. My complaint is with your referral system for services. My request relates to repair to the AC. This is not the first time that AHS has come to my home to repair the AC. No one ask me how many units. There are two. Because AHS did not ask, I was required to call, get an approval for the 2nd unit and pay two services fees, while the provider was at my home. Fortunately, I was able to get through to AHS. Both units required attention. My point is payment of two service fees was unethical business practices and wrong.

I'm a new condo unit owner so I did some shopping and American Home Shield was the best. I never had to have anything repaired, which is good. It's nice to have the peace of mind - I know that the covered things that AHS can't fix, they will replace. In the long run, it'll save me a lot of money. I like the newsletters that AHS sends because it reminds me to change my furnace filter. AHS is professional and reassuring. It's been a really good experience and I'm going to renew my American Home Shield.

Something happened with the electricity and American Home Shield came over and took care of it. I have nothing but decent things to say about the contractors they have sent. AHS does a fine job, and I’m satisfied with my experience, however, I wasn’t pleased that they’re raising my rate next year.
