My central air unit went out end of last year. I have made 5 service calls about the same issues. The central air unit does not cool & leaks & the thermostat doesn't read properly. Just to be comfortable it has to run all day and all night. This is the second time it has just gone completely out & will not come on at all. I have paid service fee after service fee & the unit is still not fixed. They send out a company named Airflow who has yet to resolve the issue. Meanwhile we are left again with no air in near 100-degree weather. They patch up the equipment for it to work long enough for the 60 days to be up then it breaks down again. They only work with 2 repair companies in my area which is an inconvenience.
The customer service reps are rude & have absolutely no empathy whatsoever. This company in my experience is only concerned about the service fee & not the customer & honoring their contract. Hold times are ridiculous!! I was on hold this morning a total of 2 hours. I would not recommend this company PERIOD! & after this service call I will be canceling my contract.

AHS is expensive and the customer service is poor. I was recently on hold for nearly an hour. Please remember that if the cost of the "warranty" is $600+ per year and each service copay is $75, then your first service call is $675+ and the cost for your first two calls is $750. And that assumes that when the company AHS chooses to send out (you do not get to choose a company you are familiar with), tells you your claim is covered.
If the company determines your claim is not covered (which can happen, I assure you), you then pay the $75 copay and the actual cost of the uncovered claim, if you allow the company to do the work. So, with the combination of high cost, poor customer service and complicated coverage issues, it is not a product I particularly like. I think putting the first $675 in my own home maintenance account each year makes more sense from me, and then I can choose my own plumber or my own AC or appliance company and just pay out of that account if the need ever arises.
After 10 years that means I would have put in over $6750 and I doubt I would have spent that much and even if I did, at least I would have gotten the high quality service and customer service that kind of money buys. Oh and speaking of quality, when you are considering AHS, ask them to explain the complexities replacing appliances or devices; and when they do replace, ask them the brands they replace with. You might prefer higher end items than they replace with. In fairness, when they do finally agree to replace (often after you have to leave work to meet them and spend the $75 copay a number of times before AHS finally agrees to replace) they will offer a cash alternative, but you have to use that cash for the product and installation and the cash alternative might not cover the product (installation) of what you think is comparable.
UPDATE ON 10/17/2018: Ok, so I had a horrible customer service experience. In order to keep me from dropping the contract, the retention department offered to write off my service charge and waive one future charge. I did make a call shortly thereafter. Two months and 5 calls later, I have not been credited for either. I am now past due and furious. This company which I hate more than any other company with which I have done business, is going to harm my virtually perfect credit rating. If you do business with this company, you are making a massive mistake. Take my word for it. I have made a 26 year mistake. I am a total idiot for doing business with them. Please don't make the same mistake.

I submitted a service call which was an emergent request. The service was for a main drain blockage in my home. I did not have bathroom facilities which created the home uninhabitable. The master bathroom and master bedroom flooded due to the clog and backed up pipes. I went back and forth for 3 days with AHS. Initially they assigned Polar Plumbing to perform the service to come out to my home to unclog a main drain. After the plumbing company failed to arrive on the day 1, they rescheduled and failed again to arrive on day 2. This company failed to perform the service. They said they were too busy and rescheduled twice which is unacceptable. The company failed to arrive at my home. They did not have the courtesy in calling me. I then contacted AHS again to ask them for assistance in finding another company to service my request. I was told I would be contact in 4 hours which never happened.
I called back after 5 hours later and was told by AHS they could find a vendor and for me to go to an outside source and find one. I did find a company (David Gray Plumbing). On day 3 I contacted AHS again when the vendor arrived at my home and was giving a difficult time about procedures and authorization from the AHS agent. I have been a customer from American Home Shield since 1997 from 2 different residences and this is how I am treated? After almost 20 years as a customer I deserve to be treated better. Now I am tasked with damaged wooden flooring in the bedroom which flooded from the main drain clog (attached photos). This all could of been avoided if my service request was taken seriously and not getting the runaround.

We had two experiences with American Home Shield on a heat pump, one of which was very unfavorable. The first vendor they sent was not even able to answer our telephone calls. We waited on them for almost three weeks, and the weather was 95 degrees outside. We reported it to AHS and they sent someone else out after two days, and within three days, we were cool again. AHS was able to resolve it by sending us another technician and in that case, it was taken care of quite well.

I normally call in when I submit a claim with American Home Shield and the recent claim I had with them went very well, although the project is still not done. It took a lot of time and was much more complicated than I thought. They had to take part of the wall to get the frame out to take one of the water heaters out of the laundry room. They ended up having to get two different sizes of water tank because they didn't have the tank size and shape. It has the same number of gallons but it isn’t enough. So, the technician had to wait hours to get the tanks. And the tanks were difficult to drain.

We've been with American Home Shield for nine years and we have been completely satisfied with everything they've done for us as far as getting people to respond and getting it in a timely fashion. When submitting a claim, it's very easy doing it online, and if for some reason my computer's down, all I got to do is call their 800 number, give them my account number, and it's done. They're very easy to deal with. Their representative on the phone was very understanding. If somebody makes an appointment that we feel is not good for us, they change the appointment time. So they're very capable of working within our timeframe. I recently called to have them come and take a look at a leak we have if it's from our washing machine or our hot water heater, and they're sending a guy in to take a look at it. The contractors they’ve been sending were professional, came well-dressed, handled themselves well and fixed what has to be fixed.

We had an air conditioner that went out and had to be replaced. I submitted a claim and American Home Shield used Myer's which I did not like. The first time that Myers came out, they didn't diagnose the unit properly so we had to wait an additional couple of days for another person to come out. Then, the tech came out with a new diagnosis.
I spoke to American Home Shield and told them that I was not satisfied with Myers’ service because they only wanted to replace the compressor. They band-aided as much as possible so that it won’t cost AHS money. It’s an old system and supposed to be part of their warranty that they fix things that have not been taken care of. They only paid for the compressor part and I had to pay for the other parts. But, I like that AHS gave me the money for the compressor versus saying if I'm not going to use their company, then I don't get anything. It took us almost a month to get everything from when somebody came out till when I was able to get my check. Overall, the issue wasn't handled very well, but it was solved.

Day 7 without air conditioning in my house. Even after I ask politely tell them that there is children and animals in the house, weather is going to be 97-100 degrees and tomorrow 100, they say no can do. Hello, "BEWARE". Let USA consumers know about this, I am a homeowner who resides in Fairfax County, VA. I am a United States of America citizen and citizen of the State of Virginia. We purchased home service agreement to protect from unexpected expense. I have never had this much aggravation in my life about anything. In my opinion, American Home Shield warranty have terrible customer service and when it comes to customer service they have hit rock bottom.
Their so-called customer service associates are extremely rude and do not offer to resolve/explain anything "very unclear as to what they will do for the consumer" giving members the runaround with no action taken. Calls, & emails requesting responses are not acted on. They have poor customer service support system of stalls, delays, confuse, pass-the-buck to all the way to non-responses. It's simply impossible to reach someone who can handle 1 simple task or to ask questions or obtain information, I have to get through bank of phones and prompts to talk to a real person. Very deceptive, shady business practices, zero customer support service. Federal authorities need to investigate this. It appears they were train to do this, constantly on hold and when you do finally get a live person, they transfer you to another department and you are on hold again.
Spent at least an hour and forty five minutes on hold 4-5 times a day for 7 days. Even lady call herself she is the CEO of the American Home Shield and she is the highest person, she said her name was Tamara after on hold/on phone for over 2 hours - she said "Ok it's 8:00 P.M. We are now closing. Call back tomorrow." Absolutely terrible customer service. I have been waiting in line to talk to a customer care executive for more than 60 minutes, this has been happening consistently for 7 days. Tamara was absolutely horrible customer service support, she keep transferring the phone calls to somebody else with non help whatsoever. She was frustrating to deal with, she did nothing to look into problems and resolved, she was very slow, her behavior was offensive, and it's outrageous, very unprofessional, antiquated which do not communicate with each other.
It's absolutely the worst possible outcome, "it just seems like there's no end in sight," (such as incomplete answers/reckless disregard) and failure to respond/resolve customer's concern promptly. I am used to poor customer service but this is off the charts. She have very poor customer service skills and they have system of stalls, delays, confuse, pass-the-buck to all the way to non-responses. It's simply impossible to reach someone who can handle 1 simple task or to ask questions or obtain information, you have to get through bank of phones and prompts to talk to a real person.
Once you talk to someone the circle starts again and possibly they are thinking this will discourages people and their contractor is trying to use up selling techniques whereby a seller induces the customer to purchase more expensive items, upgrades or other add-ons in an attempt to make a more profitable sale and get them to purchase more unnecessary products.
To me it was too late, I should've read/study/learn about this company before I purchased the product, however after reading and listening what other USA consumers are saying it appears to me American Home Shield engaged in a pattern and practice of failing to fulfill its contractual obligations to its customers, including by declining generally to provide repair and replacement service to which its customers were entitled, and by improperly denying claims in customers' home service contracts in my case the covered air conditioner compressor is the causal part which caused the leak of the Freon.
Once they collected my monthly charge (which is almost $600.00 a year) and they collected my $100.00 deductible without repairing my townhouse air conditioning or replacing what their own contractor found which covered part under this warranty which is faulty, mechanically failed air conditioner compressor which he said caused to leak the refrigerant at the same time, they stated I have to pay additional $850.00. So my original agreed deductible went from $100 to now $950.00 to replace covered part and after 36 hours of very severe painful or unpleasant experience that causes mental suffering a lady by the name of Rhonda call and said "How about $350.00 deductible and we have to order the part. Could take 10 days, we have to find the cheapest way or part to fix" while my entire family is suffering heat-related illnesses.
This severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on consumers which is wrong and as of 7/24/2016 10:28 A.M. our townhouse still have no A/C. Now I understand that they have: confusing policies riddled with exclusions and limitations or home service agreement/warranty plans with limited benefits which is defined as coverage that has "hidden or obscure" terms. Was aimed at convincing people that this was comprehensive coverage that will protect you in your time of need. It certainly did not prove to be that way.
The normal activities of daily life carry the risk of enormous financial loss. Many persons are willing to pay a small amount for protection against certain risks because that protection provides valuable peace of mind. The term home service agreement or American Home Shield warranty describes any measure taken for protection against risks. When home service agreement/warranty takes the form of a contract in an service agreement/warranty policy, it is subject to requirements in statutes, Administrative Agency regulations, and court decisions. CONCERN USA CITIZEN AND I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY VICTIM.

Recently, I have a rental property and had a leak in a bathtub. AHS sent a plumber but as it turned out, it wasn't a water leak per se. It was a leak because there was a crack in the tub, so they couldn't do anything. I did the claim online which I've done four times in the past year. It's simple, fairly painless, and it works real well. I've been an American Home Shield customer for at least five years. Before they had their website up, I would have to call in and talk to someone and they've always been really awesome. I've referred them to multiple people.
The contractors have been nice as well. However, I'm in Texas and they've unfortunately contracted a company out of San Antonio who were rather difficult to work with at one time. But for the most part, everyone affiliated with AHS is nice and competent. They always fix or replace things. I also had a rental house in Austin and the water gator went out. They replaced that very quickly and it worked great. I'm very happy with American Home Shield. That's why I continue to be a customer.

I've used American Home Shield several times and they've always been real good. I renew every year and I've never had any issue. Recently, both my hot water tanks in the attic quit working and submitting the claim to AHS was very easy. I went online, they told me who the contractor was going to be, then they came and did an assessment. They said that they weren't fixable and needed to be replaced. They replaced it and the tanks are now brand new. They told me what was needed to be done and they did it. They had to bring the tanks up to code and they told me what the difference would be. I had to pay for the code change and it was all reasonable.

I had a trouble with a plumbing fixture and American Home Shield contacted someone and I made arrangements for them to come out and look at it. Typically, the contractors would come out and inspect if the appliance is not working correctly. Whatever is covered, they either repair it or replace it. In this case, it was a replacement and it wasn’t very satisfactory. It was a very expensive fixture and what I got as a replacement was something much, much less than that. It was definitely inferior to what I had.

You said you would call, you said you would help. It's 91 inside my house. It's completely unhealthy. The only reason I'm in the situation is because one of your prior vendors put the wrong Freon in my unit and now you don't want to pay for it to be replaced. What has to happen? Is it a lawsuit, is it going to the media, Better Business Bureau, your CEO, what has to happen? You replaced this unit in 2011, it has been serviced multiple times and now I'm in a situation that is literally unbearable. All I get is lip service and no one's taking responsibility. These are your vendors I pay a premium that I paid for 15 years. I was told that you first needed to explore the issue with the vendor that used the wrong Freon. I've talk to other AC companies and apparently it's quite common for unethical companies to use old mixed junk Freon. I should not have to wait for you to resolve the issue with your vendor before my problem is resolved.
You're a very large home warranty company. I am one person. You need to take responsibility for the poor workmanship of your vendor. Fix my problem, replace the Freon, and subrogate or do whatever you have to do with the prior vendors. I pay for a policy. I shouldn't have to wind up in the hospital because you need to investigate "your vendor."

I saw a lot of bad reviews for American Home Shield but we didn't have a problem with them. My most recent claim was for our air conditioner. The main motor fan was out and then the unit we had in the house was mismatched so we took a credit and then paid the remainder for a new unit. Submitting the claim wasn’t bad. I did it over the phone and it went smoothly. The claims rep was courteous and told me the name of the air conditioning company that they used in the area I lived.
The contractor sent out was good. He told me that American Home Shield could replace the fan in my air conditioning unit. He said how old my unit was and that it was mismatched. He also said that there was a possibility that something else could happen in two or three weeks, or maybe in a year or two. Nobody knows when it would happen but he said that's a chance I'm on if I get it fixed. He told me that I may have to think about putting in a new unit sooner, so I did. They came out here and put it in in a day. The newer unit is more efficient and is actually cheaper on the power bill.

Our AC went out and submitting a claim with American Home Shield wasn’t bad. They sent some people to us and the issue that needs to be fixed was covered. However, they didn't look at where we're at and how the traffic is in Houston. We live somewhere remote, outside of Houston and they sent someone from almost 30 miles. I asked them if they have anyone closer and they said it's these people who are the next one that’s up. I told them that that doesn’t make a lot of sense when they got someone that’s 8 miles from us in Rosenberg and they’re sending someone to us all the way from Tomball.
One of the concerns I had was when they come out, they tell me all these things that need to be done and that they can do them and it will be covered under warranty. But if we do them then there’s no warranty and we have to pay for everything. The guy said the coils need to be cleaned and I told him to go ahead and clean them but then he said that it will cost me $175. I said that it is a warranty but he answered that it's only when they go bad. I didn't realize we were responsible for maintenance so I told him not to clean them so when the coils go bad, I'll pay him $69 and he'll put on a $700 set of coils instead of $125 worth of maintenance. But nevertheless, the contractor fixed our AC issue in a timely manner, did a good job, everything was cleaned and we paid about $79. I'd recommend AHS.

In the past, everything dealt with very professionally, quickly, and very well. The last experience I had with them was when our dishwasher went on the fritz. I applied for the service person through their website, which is what I usually do, and everything worked fine. I got the notice that they were sending out a service person. Then the service person called but he never showed up. It ended up lasting four weeks for us trying to make contact with him and calling AHS. AHS was very good in handling this situation. They got hold of the contractor on the line the the contractor, AHS and I had a three-way conference call, where the contractor said he would show up at 10 o'clock the next day. But we never got a phone call from him and he never showed up. There was no communication at all from this contractor and that was annoying.
After that phone call, I called again AHS, and due to their contracts with people, they had to wait so many days before they could get someone else. I did not like that we had to wait so long for this guy to keep not showing up before AHS could go off to someone else. But it was just one vendor and it was a dishwasher and that was not a tragedy. So, they finally sent out a different repair company who came out the very next day. And it was someone who had been here at another time. I did not lose signal, as I would assume the business owner did. I called the number back, which was not the same number as the office number & got a voice mail stating the first and last name of the person, which the last name matched the business last name. I did not leave a message because I thought this was very unprofessional on the company's part.
I chatted online with a representative who was very rude and informed me that the only way that I can complain on the company is via mail and she gave me a PO Box address. I called and decided to go through "sales" and not to my surprise my phone call was answered very quickly. Go figure that the only department that you can get through in a timely manner is SALES. Anyways the guy was very rude and rushing me off of the phone (guess they work on some sort of commission) after I was trying to get him to reroute me to a Manager; then I asked him to route me to the Cancellation Department and I was not on hold as long either. I spoke with a Mary **, who was very understanding and she agreed with my concerns and frustrations that I expressed to her. She went out of her way to try to help me, by even calling the company and stating to me that they could come out the next day.
I told her that I had to think about this because I have only attempted to use American Home Shield twice and the first time, I ended up cancelling my work request and paying out of pocket for my services and no one from that office acted like they cared. Now this incident, and I am very outraged over this as I have never missed a payment with these guys. Also, I informed Mary that I did not want to use that company for my repairs because I can already feel the bad experience because of their unprofessionalism.
She told me that she would search around and call me back and upon calling me back she stated that I had to use that company because that was the one in my area. Even though she is very nice and trying to help, I told her that I would sleep on all of this and give her an answer tomorrow on whether I will be keeping their company on as my Home Warranty Provider. Anyways, the chances of me staying with this company are slim to none. The worst customer service ever.

AHS has not provided timely service. I Have been 5 Days without hot water and they will not cover the complete cost of the repairs. On Sunday July 17, our hot water heater started leaking. I called AHS for service and they dispatched the request to a company. That company had no availability until Friday 7/22. AHS dispatched another company, a one man operation that uses a cell phone for his main number. He was unable to make the repairs because his "one" van broke down.
The next company dispatched also had a crew of "one" and would take several days to arrive and complete the request. The fourth and company was able to arrive in a timely manner, 4 days after the initial call. Replacement of our hot water heater was approved, however, the company is attempting to charge for "modifications" that must be made in order to install the water heater. As described by the company, these "modifications" include moving the water pipes and gas lines ends and fittings to meet the new tank. I thought that any reasonable person would call those actions "installation."
I called AHS to inform them that the plumber was attempting to add a labor charge for something that should obviously be included as the installation charge. Tried as I may there was no one listening. I called and spent many many hours on hold and being transferred to different individuals. I kept getting the same rhetoric. "AHS doesn't cover modification." I get that. My disagreement is in the use of the word. Making the appropriate connections to water and gas lines is NOT a "modification." That is indeed what anyone would call installation. For if not, then what exactly is installation? Setting the unit in place?
I spoke to a woman in the escalations department, her name is Tamara. A very mean spirited person indeed. Our entire conversation pretty much consisted of her talking over me and telling to stop talking so she could finish. She even said herself "in all my years working for AHS, we have never had a hot water heater that did not require modification." "Do you know why?" I said. "Because every hot water heater needs to be "INSTALLED!"" They call installation by the term modification in order to justify refusal to pay for it. I feel that I have been taken advantage of by the underhanded practices of American Home Shield. Not only have I spent no less than 30 minutes on hold each time I called, and not only has it taken 5 days to get any results at all, but even after all that, they won't INSTALL a hot water heater per the terms of their contract.

My air conditioner was out so I submitted a claim to AHS. My experience with them was good overall. The guy that came the first day didn’t totally address the problem. And a couple of days later the air conditioner was back out. The second guy figured out that the outflow from the air conditioner was through the wall in the house - the plumbing, so he was able to get on there and unclog it. Those guys were nice and it got done. But the first one blew up the line and some other things that needed to be done, but didn’t get to the source of the problem.
Also, it was pretty annoying when I called because I was on hold forever. I called them right away when my AC went out and I went out of town but there was a delay when it was supposed to be fixed and it wasn’t. I came back from being out of town and there was water draining through the ceiling of my garage, through the drywall. But they did get over really quick when I said they have to fix it now, so they were able to do that.

We have an outside faucet that was cracked and leaking every time we tried to use it. We filed a claim with American Home Shield, and the contractor that came out was very customer-friendly, experienced in exactly what needed to be done and performed the work satisfactorily. The first gentleman that they sent was qualified to do the repair but too big to get in the confined space that he needed to get to, so they sent out a smaller guy who could perform the repair on another day. They replaced the faucet and did a good job.
In addition, there were a couple of instances of electrical work that I had to have AHS out to perform. The vendors that they use were all good people, and they recommended the need for some additional work that the status of the home required. However, in both cases, AHS refused to do anything but the very minimum amount required to get the wiring to function. Even though the electrician said it really needs to have this done, which would be a bigger expense for them, they would only pay for having a minimal repair done. Other than that, I'm satisfied with AHS.

Recently, I submitted claims online for my air conditioner and garbage disposal. Within a second, AHS sent me an email stating who was going to do the job. I called out some agency and someone called me right away. They made an appointment and went in to fix it. The claims rep was extremely helpful. The only complaint I have is that sometimes it takes a longer time and I understand. On the other hand, the contractors were very professional. They came on time and knew what they were looking for. They also dressed well with their agency's contractor attire. They fixed the problem in a very short period of time because of their expertise. AHS is excellent and makes my life easier.

The longest time I've waited was around 20 minutes but the reps I've spoken with were very helpful. We recently had a plumbing problem because the brackets had broken around the pipes. The technician who came out was polite and when I asked him what the problem was, he told me he fixed it and he was polite. I'm pleased with the repair.

One Sunday, we had a blockage in the laundry room so I filed a claim online and the contractor (Davidson Plumbing) called me on Monday morning when they got the ticket from AHS. It was painless and quick. The technician came the next day when someone was available to be home. He asked me what the problem was, looked at it, and made sure that everything was clear and running before he left. He fixed it in less than 10 minutes. Where the blockage was happening was where our washing machine drains so AHS kept us from going to a laundromat. Moreover, their claims rep are courteous and accommodating. They’re patient too because sometimes I wouldn’t know what I’m trying to describe or talking about. I had a wonderful experience with AHS.

We've been dealing with American Home Shield since 1999 when we bought this house. Usually, I submit claims over the internet and it's been relatively easy. But one oddity is that we've had an a/c request and the selection has been removed forcing me to call in to speak to an agent. As for their contractors, they've been sending a range of people that were good and bad. Hopefully, they have a process to weed out the bad relatively quickly, and they've got to have a large pool of people to respond to all the requests.
On my most recent claim, I had a problem with our attic exhaust fan, and the first person they sent didn't want to work on it. He was just looking at it, gave an impression that there was a problem and didn't charge us but, I guess he was looking for compensation. Then a second person came out, had the right part for it, took care and resolved the issue. My wife was impressed and there were no further service problems with the fan after. Out of this whole situation, this is one service that AHS said that we owed them $100 but I think it was a dispute between them and the first dispatched person. I also think it was resolved.
There are some things AHS have done well and some that I got frustrated. We've had a lot of air-conditioning problems, which is one of the reasons why we retain our policy with AHS. They fix the problem that's reported, however, when someone has that many problems over a sustained period of time, it seems like we're fixing the symptom instead of the problem. Every time a vendor came out, we were putting money into the original system and every year, there's been a problem upstairs or downstairs and I was tired of it. Prior to our attic fan claim, we had an outage in our a/c unit upstairs. I got the cash-out option, which I didn't know there was such an option until the last year or two, which I could make a financial decision to replace my unit. If I knew about this cash out option earlier, I might have taken a different action, five years ago.

I called AHS in May about my broken clothes washer. It is now mid-July - I still don't have a fully functioning washer - am still going to laundromats. I have made over seven calls to customer service (waits of 30 to 45 minutes even on weekends). Each time the customer rep hears what has happened, promises someone will call within 48 hours - never happens. They sent out a rep from Sears who three times tried to repair the machine. Each visit required a weeks wait, a visit, send for a part (another week) another visit. Each time I have wasted hours on the phone trying to get them to repair or replace the machine. They say the problem is with Sears not sending in reports on time. That is AHS's mess up - they are the responsible ones. Last call promised that dispatch would find me a new repair person and I would hear in (you guessed it!) 48 hours. Still haven't heard.

I have been waiting nearly a month at this point to get an air leak from my central air conditioning addressed. The original request was 6/25 and assigned to JMC Quality Air. When I mentioned that I have a geothermal system after waiting nearly an hour on hold to speak to someone, they then transferred it to Ocean Air. When I mentioned to Ocean Air that I had geothermal, again they said they could not handle it and I had to call again with an hour hold time.
Finally it was assigned to Always Green, who came, said there was a leak in the ductwork and said they do not do ductwork and recommend that we get another contractor. Another hour hold time and it was reassigned to JMC who apparently does ductwork. When JMC arrived and I told them via phone where the leak was, they failed to look, removed the filter leaving the air handler without one, but stated they changed it and left saying there was no leak.
Another phone call of an hour wait to AHS prompted them to be recalled with the proviso that they will not cut a hole as they don't do that and we would need a carpenter to cut a hole in Sheetrock! I asked American Home Shield if I should pre cut the access for the provider, and they first said yes and that access holes were covered via the contract. I still waited until JMC arrived. They were nasty to say the least, insisting there was no leak. The dispatcher from JMC intimating I was lying about the problem.
They said that they would come 7/16 between 9-11 am. They came at 10:59 am despite my wife asking for an earlier time. I showed them where the air leak was and they confirmed they would need an access hole made. I started the cut and then their technician proceeded to make two access holes into the wall and confirmed a large leak. I apologized to them saying all that I want was for the leak to be fixed, and they said that all was right, there was a large leak.
JMC told me they would be back on Monday to fix it. When I called JMC Monday, they said they did not get authorization and were never set to come back on Monday. Now another call and hour wait to AHS to confirm if JMC spoke to someone at AHS about the issue. They had not. The representative then said they would reach out to them and get back to me.
Two hours later get a call back and message saying the issue is the damper lacks capacity and is not covered. I would be responsible for the whole repair. Another 1 hour wait to speak to a rep where I try to explain a damper may have a diameter but not capacity. I asked to speak to a supervisor - another hour wait. Finally get someone on the phone, ask for another opinion and want a clarification if I pay to repair the damper, they will cover the repair the access holes. They said yes, but the damper will cost $550. I asked for the second opinion (actually now a third), and told them I wish that JMC be placed on my do not call list. Also, when I reviewed what they did, there were now circumferential holes in the ductwork and the damper was hanging lower than it was held by the power wires
The next opinion assigned was Empire Heating and Cooling. I called Empire, told them the issue was with the duct work, and they said they do not cover duct work and I would need to be reassigned. Another hour on hold and they said they would need to contact the vendor to confirm and I would need to be reassigned. Two days later I was reassigned to Controlled Climate 7/20. Darnell from Controlled Climate was very pleasant and came the same day. He said that the issue was not with the caliber of the damper, but that the damper was not secured and was gravitationally pulling duct work. He said he could either mount it in the closet or relocate it to the attic. It was not a capacity issue like JMC said but a poor design and installation. He could call in his opinion but likely could not do the repair. I thanked him.
Later that day I received an email that this too is not covered. After another 1 hour phone call, spoke to a representative that said to me that first the damper was not covered and when I said the section that dampers were covered she then said zoning was not covered. When asked where was that in the contract, she informed me that it wasn't in the contract, it just wasn't covered. When asked where is this "unofficial" list I was told it just was not something that was covered. I then hung up and spoke to Darnell from Controlled Climate who told me that he was told that dampers were not covered and he could not get any further with the authorization persons because immediately he was told the dampers were not covered. I informed him that it was a covered part of the policy and he said then it should be no problem, the repair, but he could not do it.
I then spent another hour waiting for a representative from the Authorization department of AHS, and then spoke to a women who said again it was denied due to an improper installation and a zoning damper was not a covered item. When I informed her of the section saying improper installation was a covered item, she informed me but the zoning damper was not. When asked where in the contract again she said that it was not in the contract. When I said the contract seemed to be a complete document and that I would like to submit this for arbitration, I was told I could send it to an email address for consideration.
I asked for a written copy of the reason why it was denied and a copy of the "hidden coverage items" which are not on the website or in the contract prior to this submission so I could know how this determination was made. She said I could get some information in writing. I have yet to receive this. I asked if I could get another opinion to the problem, and she said I could but if it matches any other then I would have to pay $75. When I asked which opinion since now I have had four - two from JMC, one from always green, and one from Controlled Climate. Furthermore, I asked how much would it cost if I wished to pay out of pocket, she said she did not know. When I informed her the vendor could not even do the repair and I would have to hire another she said it was my problem because it was not covered.
When I was told in the past from AHS with JMC if I paid for the damper that they would cover the access hole repair, I was told that they would. This time the rude authorization rep said they would not cover anything. I again asked to escalate. Waited another hour and then spoke to David from Wisconsin who was nicer, said that dampers and plenums were covered, need to get further clarification from a manager and then would get back to me and he was in from 11:30-7. Still no response or clarification.
Tried to call authorizations to be transferred to him, and Brandy said she could not, that they were still working on it. We are now over three weeks from the initial call, countless hours on hold without any resolution on what is clearly a covered item per the contract. But AHS doesn't follow the contract - they have a hidden one that is not available to their customers, they try to deny, and waste the time of their customers with real problems via inadequate staffing, poor training, unaccountable staff, and poor contractors. I cannot discourage their use enough.

In 2015 I had a very sick daughter (may she rest in peace), my AC broke about 15x. We now fast forward to 2016. My AC has been broken for 5 weeks. At the second appt they thought they figured out what was wrong. Only to find out my compressor was shot. Both the contractor and home warranty know this. After two weeks I had to call and track down the contractor which by the way is harder than you think. This contractor is HORRIBLE about answering their phones and calling you back. I call minimum 10 times a day and 80% of those are busy signals. The rest goes to voicemail.
Anyways back to my story. So after two weeks I call them and they set up an appt for 4 days later. They come by and leave within 5 minutes bc the part is 2 inches too tall. Well it's now three weeks later, I can't get ahold of the contractor. And the best part of it is I paid a service fee in April. But I had to renew my contract June 30th. So I know when I go to make a new service request for them to come out. I'm going to have to pay another fee.
I've been with American Home Shield for a little over a year and for other issues in the house they are great. But when it comes to my AC unit I'M DONE!!! They should replace the whole damn thing since it's been giving me this much issues in the past 5 years I've lived here. I already dropped one home warranty bc they couldn't get their crap together. And this is a very high ranking warranty company. So please do my damn AC. It's been 5 weeks!!! I have two kids and it's nearing 105 outside now.

We have had a contract with American Home Shield for 3 years and used them for minor repairs and were fine with them. Then our washing machine broke. They sent a repairman who knew nothing about fixing washing machines (was on the phone the whole time asking about how to repair it). The repairman said they had to order some new parts and it would take a couple of days. I waited a couple of days and heard nothing so I called American Home Shield and was told they would be contacting me soon. They didn't.
Then I got a call one day. The repairman said he would be over in fifteen minutes (had not made an appointment). I rushed home and he replaced the parts and it still did not work, he said he needed to order other parts. Same thing happened, no call, waited 4-5 days, came back, replaced the parts and still did not work. In the end this happened 5 times, the repairman must have spent over 10 hours trying to fix it and there was virtually no communication from the repairman or AHS explaining to me what was going on or the time line.
I called American Home Shield and said I am sick of bringing my laundry for me and my family to friends and relatives houses and to laundromats, and that it's been 4 and a half weeks and this is ridiculous. The operator I spoke to told me this is a reasonable amount of time it takes to fix something and I should read my contract carefully and if I am not please with AHS then maybe I should reconsider my contract. With customer service like this I couldn't deal with them anymore. The supervisors on the phone are just as bad and in the end we ordered our own machine and spent way more money because we were on AHS than if we had not (and far more aggravation). I would not recommend at all and have canceled our contract. I couldn't believe this is a company that stays in business with its terrible customer service. You do not buy peace of mind with this warranty service, you only get aggravation and extra costs.

Their vendor contacted me the next day and the contractor came out two days after that. I had no problems with their contractors too. They showed up on time and went straight in. They found out what the problems was and found out another one on top of that. They took care of both of them, cleaned up, and they were out the door. The washing machine's working fine since the repair.
I only had one bad experience with AHS and they took care of that instantly. While my ceiling fan was running as operated, a contractor came in, did something, broke it and left me hanging with wires and everything. He said it was already broken but it was spinning when he came although it was making a lot of noise. And then he tried to have me get his company to fix it. American Home Shield came to fix the faucet which was running slow. The plumber that was sent looked at it and said there was a foreign object in the faucet. AHS sent me a message saying it was finished but it wasn't and I found out that they wouldn't cover it. I had to pay the plumber to rip everything out, so I wasn't real happy with it. Somebody could've just said they won't cover it instead of telling me it's finished and making me call them and say it's not.
I had a similar experience with our air conditioning. They came out to repair it and said the contactors were making the loud noise. So the guy came out and replaced them and within a few hours, it was back to doing what it was doing so I called. The tech came out and said it's the fan and that AHS may not cover it and may do it as a separate. So I expected that if they weren't going to cover it, I'd have a second call from them to tell me so. However, they didn't and two weeks later, I got a message in my email saying I was two weeks behind in paying for the service call. Since that time, we also had them come out for the hot water heater. So I called and asked them for which work was I behind in paying. That's when I found out that they hadn't covered the fan in the AC. They could've just sent me a message saying they're not covering it and I'd have to pay the service call for it.
Then I found out that the money doesn't go to the people that make the service call anyway. I wrote a check to the AC guy and he sent the money to AHS so I ended up paying twice for the air conditioner problem. So I'm not happy with the way they communicate. Also, I've been a customer for 20 years and the price keeps going up so I switched companies.

It had calcium deposits and the plumber they sent out said they can't fix it unless they get a special permission. So they called and that turned out not to be on our contract. We had to pay $75 to have them come out, take one look at it and tell us that they can't do anything about it. So I wasn't real happy about that and I feel like that $75 should be reimbursed because it would make people very dissatisfied with their company.
We've also had another incident where the air-conditioner stopped. They came out and supposedly fixed it but then it stopped again. We had long waiting periods too because they'd have to order something else. And this was during the triple-digit time. I know it was an old air-conditioner during the triple digits, considering that we've been with the company a long time, but we did have to wait quite a while to get that. At one point, the indoor temperature was 90 and it was six days before we can get it resolved. So I don't know if that was their fault or it was just too old. However, we had to go out and buy a new air-conditioner because I have some medical issues and I can't handle too much heat.

I submitted the claim online the first time and this time, it came back through, but with a different contractor to repair it. It was a recall so I didn't want that. My wife called them then and was on hold for over an hour but talked to somebody who allowed us to use the same contractor again. I liked the guy who did our air conditioner. He did a good job.

American Home Shield is the worst! There are prolonged waits to get contractors to fix major components to your house ex: plumbing, ac. Seems that they deal with a lot of jack leg contractors who lie about what the problem is, then they discount getting the work completing by saying it was weather related. I have had so many problems with this company and to top it all off, you have to wonder if the co. is in cahoots with the contractors to get the customers to pay out of pocket!! Please save yourself some money and look elsewhere for coverage!!!
This plumbing contractor lied and at first said, my water pump was cracked and once I questioned American Home Shield, they came up with another story that the water pipe was leaking due to the weather? Now go figure that one out! I have a simple leak where the pic pipe is connected to the pump. Plain and simple and that has nothing to do with hot weather. That's a typical problem that a homeowner will encounter over a period of time!

American Home Shield's claim process is easy both on the web and when I call them directly. Their reps were usually good. I had somebody kind of arguing if I need to get additional service and I don't think it was handled very well but when everything goes smooth, it goes very well. Sometimes the contractors were really good and sometimes not. I used one group for our pool but I would never put them on to my worst enemy. I found another one called Expert Pools and they were excellent. So now I just request for them anytime I have a pool issue and AHS is good about that.
Turnaround time is a little slower than I would like. I call in and they have two business days to get back with me, and then two days to get somebody out there. So that's slow when it's hot and I have an AC issue. I actually have AHS on four houses. My rental and my own, so sometimes it's painful. Especially when I have a washing machine that I had to have them come out for six times and finally, I said I had enough and AHS gave me some money to buy a new one. But it's based on whatever the end repair amount is. So it doesn't matter how much money they've wasted along the way and they will continue to waste trying to troubleshoot that. So if the repairman says it's just a $100 part, that's how much money we'd get and that's a pain.

We purchased our first home during April 2016. AHS was highly recommended by our realtor, lender, and friends and with this, we decided to go with AHS for our home warranty. We decided to do the monthly payment plan of $42 a month, not a bad deal. During July 2016 while I was reconciling our account, I did not see the $42 charge nor did I recall ever receiving anything in the mail from AHS other than an email during April saying my account was active and payment was received. I decided to call AHS's billing department this past Friday, July 15th, to confirm the status of my policy and I was told my initial payment had declined. Really? For $42? I thought they were kidding, but they were not.
I asked why wasn't I notified and was told they mailed me a letter. I never received a letter. Forty-two dollars. I just can't get over that. So I decided to pay the entire balance in full while I was on the phone, about $500. I asked for a confirmation number and was told a supervisor had to post the payment and it would be posted to my account by midnight that night. It's been 4 days and nothing has been deducted from my account and my AHS is still inactive. When I called Saturday, July 16th, to follow up I was told they manually wrote my card information down and passed it to a supervisor to post and to allow 3 to 4 days. Let's see, I paid on Friday and it's end of day on Monday, still nothing has hit my checking account.
I am so nervous because someone has my card number, address, and name and I still had not received any email confirmation about my account or payment. If you guys do not want our business, just tell me. I plan on researching other companies tomorrow, considering it is late Monday night and I'm exhausted from work. I am just beside myself right now and extremely upset. I never felt so insulted. Could my payment be declining because of a data entry error? And who the heck has has my credit card information and why does the billing department representatives have to manually write down a customer's credit card number, then pass to a supervisor to charge/post??? That's pretty scary.

I don't know if it was his fault or if it was Home Shield's fault but that wasn't a big deal. I understand when you got 50 million whole parts, it's hard to order the right one all the time. If I bought another house, I would buy a home warranty from AHS again.

Our most recent problem was a leak with a plastic pipe in the house that we had American Home Shield come out here for. I submitted the claim online as it seemed quicker. The techs were alright, and the only problem was on the last claim. There's a big box with all the lines running together and has what they call a manifold where the pipes run through. But the line going in on the fitting wasn’t long enough, so it leaks there. They had to cut into the walls on each side of the box, so now I have a little slot there. They didn’t repair it because plumbers don’t repair that, so it’s my responsibility to repair the walls, but it's not American Home Shield's fault. It's in the washer area, so it's not exposed all the time, but we know it's there.

But it took them a couple of days to get to us but it's summertime and people are getting installs more than repairs. They actually came out two days earlier because they had availability. The time window was further out but they were able to squeeze us in earlier. And in the past six service calls that we've had with them, we've only had one negative off that. Anyway, avoid this company as when things break they will try to avoid repairing, and often their service technicians are trying to get out of fixing things. I also have had to have second opinions come after they denied coverage. We are taking all 3 of our contracts to Secure Home Warranty. It is less expensive and hopefully better service. I had American Home Shield for 15 years in New Jersey. Then I had it on our rental property so the renters wouldn't have to bother me and they could just call AHS. When I moved to Florida 10 years ago, I immediately got AHS again. My only concern was the raise in price like it doubled for me. I went from a little under 500 to a thousand a year. I don't know if it's because they told me my plan that I had before no longer existed and instead of calling me and saying there's a change in their policy, they sent me a letter saying my policy was canceled and didn't give me a chance to understand why. If I didn't take the initiative to call and find out what the story was I would not have them. When they do a change, they need to call the customer or write them a note and say, "Please call us at your convenience. We're having changes to your policy and we want to make you aware of them." But anyway, other than that little glitch, they're fine.
Recently, my washing machine needed a new agitator and the dryer needed a new something inside and they fixed it. I submitted the claim over the phone but I held for customer service because I like a particular vendor. So from there, I had to wait for a representative and she put me through to the vendor that I like. Their customer service were very polite, cordial and I was taken care of in a matter of minutes. On automated, you just get who you get.
Then the contractor came and he was terrific, very punctual and attentive and I request him all the time. His company must have received the fax and they were on the phone to me two minutes later. I do have a good relationship with them. So when the agitator got loose, I called the contractor directly and he came the same day and pushed it down and that was the end of it. I have my washing and dryer going all the time and it's on right. It's working perfect.

My latest claim with American Home Shield was with my water heater. It wasn't completely out and was still working, but it was leaking. It wasn't hard to submit the claim to get the process going. I always either call them or do it online. I got it going, but there were a couple of problems. The first group that came out was fine. They were able to meet with me on a day I wasn't at work.
But it was really difficult with the second company that AHS needed to come out and verify everything, because they only came up from Phoenix one day a week and it happened to be on a day that I was at work, so I couldn't arrange anything with them. Finally, after we talked it over and I talked to AHS, the second company finally figured out a way how they can come up on a day I was home so I could be here. So getting that second opinion was very time-consuming and frustrating. That was the only problem.
AHS ended up replacing my water heater, but it took over a month by the time they got two different opinions on it. Furthermore, by the time they took out my old water heater, it was cruddy-looking and looked pretty bad. It was leaking up on the very top of the water heater, in an area that I couldn't even see, and the entire top and all down the side of the water heater were rusted.
The water heater has been working perfectly since the replacement. It doesn't leak. I've got plenty of hot water, which is wonderful. I didn't realize how low the temperature was. Even though my thermometer or the thermostat on my old water heater was set fairly high, I still wasn't getting real hot water because of the leakage. But I don't have any trouble at all now with this new water heater! It's set in the middle of the thermostat which is a lot lower than what my old water heater required in order to get enough hot water. So a new water heater was the answer.

When I purchased my home warranty, I did so wanting the peace of mind that I have a responsible, service oriented company to help me when something goes wrong in my home. For two years now, I have paid the monthly payment and have called on a few occasions for things like a troublesome garbage disposal and clogged toilet. Each time, paying the $125 appt charge to AHS. Instead of being connected with pre-qualified competent contractors, I have had a plumber fix a broken sink stopper who could not place the drawers back under the sink in working order after doing the job. Another service where the kitchen sink disposal which should have been replaced for repeated issues was just temporarily fixed to last another 6 months so I would be forced to pay another $125 to have another service visit.
In this case, I explained to the contractor that I needed 1st appt at 8am because I have to be at work by 9. He could only see me at that time five days later and then after waiting until 8:45am, I called to cancel since he was a no show. When calling AHS, I was on hold for over 12 minutes while on the way to work to schedule with another plumber. I gave up trying that day and spent my Sunday afternoon on hold while AHS called the plumber to verify what happened and then insisted I go with the same plumber AGAIN.
If you want to pay for meaningless coverage, long hold times and bad contractors then AHS is for you. It also helps if you are independently wealthy or work from home so you can have the flexibility to be home during workday hours to have even the smallest issues fixed. I shudder to think what my experience would be like if I had more serious, costly issues like an HVAC issue. My advice is to look up top rated home warranty services and go with one of them. I just did and can tell you that AHS is NOT one of them.

American Home Shield's contractor first came out and said that they couldn't fix the evaporator coil in my air conditioner upstairs and they needed to order a part. I had no air conditioning and it was really hot. Five days later, they told me that it'd cost me $1,200 because they had to bring the system up to code because there's no inline and a $700 in Freon that American Home Shield doesn't cover. Now we have a $1,200 bill that was going to be a $75 regular service call fee. It took them three weeks to figure out that they can't find this evaporator coil because it's not being made anymore. I'm a very unhappy consumer.
They've been AWOL for three weeks. I don't know where they or the part were. I'm so sick and tired of calling all these people. They'd worn me down so bad that I needed to get un-pissed off before I have the conversation with Home Shield. I'm being held hostage by this company but I don't want to make anybody unhappy because I need my air conditioning fixed. I'm not going to say one word to American Home Shield until they do their job. In the meantime, I lived in another part of my house that I don't want to live in. Then they came and brought the part. Unfortunately, they had the wrong part but they said they'd go ahead in replacing the internal mechanism inside the air handler and evaporator coil and it'll cost us the same, $1,200, when it's really about $3,500 for the work. So they pumped me back down with Freon.
When filing a claim, it's nearly impossible to get through to a live person with them. It's really bad and I can't stand automated phone. I really don't trust putting the service call in on the computer but lately with them, that's the way I've done it and it seems to work. As soon as I get a response, I simply turn around and call the company. And the company already had my claim in process so I've learned how to play that game.
The last time I talked to their rep I asked them at what point do they decide that they need to replace the system. They responded that the only way they will replace it is if it's not repairable and if it's that bad and we want a new system, AHS will only pay up to $1,000 to replace the system. So I'm just waiting for someone to determine that it's completely irreparable and cannot be fixed and it looks like I'm very close to that right now seeing how they can't fix it.
Their service techs were fine. It's the office that's very difficult to work with. They don't answer their phone. We have to call them repeatedly just to get them to answer the phone. This was when I was still trying to figure out when they were coming and I couldn't leave a message because I learned that they don't call me back. I dislike their selection of service providers. I've had great experience with home appliance repair and have never had a complaint. There's always been a pain in the butt for air conditioning. I had the downstairs air conditioning system stop working for me and they sent a company out that when they got there said that it is too complicated and don't even know how to work on it.

My air conditioning unit's thermostat went out on July 3rd and it didn't get fixed until the 8th. It wasn't AHS's fault though and everybody was closed because of the Fourth of July. They even told me that I can go outside of their network and call anybody myself if I need to see if I can find someone. But I just got out of the hospital that day after being in there for five days and so I said that I don't have the energy and I'll just wait until they get back on Monday or Tuesday instead of calling.
I called to submit the claim and AHS took it and started making calls to get a technician out. It wasn't difficult and I spoke to eight customer service representatives who were all pleasant and helpful as they all could be. The contractor who came out was fine and did what he had to do. He gave me what I thought was a much substandard thermostat to what I originally had so I told him that and he ran out and went to get another one and brought it back and put it in the same day. The AC's wonderful now especially that it was 106 yesterday and today.

At first I was frustrated because for the past seven years they've been patching up and repairing it, but it didn't fix the problem. It kept coming the next year. Anytime I've had any repairs to my refrigerator I was able to get it repaired and paid $75 or $80. Now I am surprised and happy that the company and the technician made the decision that the AC could not be repaired anymore.
The representatives on the phone were always nice. Virginia Heating and Air was the contractor and they're extremely nice, very friendly and polite too. I left them here and I went on about my day. I had appointments and I just told them I would leave the garage door open and I will be back within a few hours. I didn't have to stay home all day with them. I've known them. I went without AC for three weeks but now the replacement AC is working really well, nice and cool. Everything is comfortable here. I don't have any problems so far. It was a great service. I will recommend American Home Shield. I'm in the process of selling my home, so if someone puts a contract down I was going to go ahead and extend it for six months for them and pay for it and then just cancel it and have them take it up. I think once they get that, they will continue to see how large of a benefit it is to have or time to consider of having to pay out of your own pocket.

It's very easy to file a claim whether it's over the phone or online because I do it both ways and I've had already three claims on my pool this year. Their customer service reps were pleasant. We had a good experience with their contractor and it's partly the way American Home Shield works wherein they have to fix one thing to see if that fixed it before they can fix the next thing. However, it can be frustrating sometimes because we think it's fixed and then it's not, then we'll have to call them back because there's something else. But I can completely understand that American Home Shield doesn't want a bunch of parts to be replaced when only one or two needs to be replaced. The pool equipment is working, though, my husband has to tinker some.
I've had them ever since I've bought this house and I'm glad that I have them. I know a lot of people have really bad experiences but they've been a little accommodating to me. I can also be the biggest ** in the world whenever somebody's not doing it, so maybe that's the difference. But they've done a good job of taking care of our claims. American Home Shield is reliable and good. My AC had gone out right before the last pool claim and it was on Memorial Day weekend. They got the claim over right away and somebody called me. American Home Shield gave me a phone number for a plumber when I had a plumbing problem. I called the plumber Wednesday and they couldn't see us until Tuesday which was almost a week. Then that day, I called them early to make sure they're still coming as they haven't called to confirm with me or not. At almost 5:00, they then called and told me that they cannot come that day because their technician had an issue. I have a patient in my basement and it was so rude and unprofessional of the contractor to do that when they knew I called that early day to confirm with them and they told me they're still coming.
I called AHS and let them know what happened. I talked to the girl from AHS that I spoke with originally and told her to find me somebody else, but she said that they can't. I was a bit frustrated with them. However, Debra, another girl from AHS that I talked to, was very helpful. The plumbing contractor then sent somebody who was very good.

I'm glad we have AHS. It gives me peace of mind as a homeowner to know that repair costs don't need to be exorbitant. We needed plumbing work recently and I asked for the same plumber who came 2 years ago. He's a great worker and fixed our faucet situation in the exact manner we hoped he would. What a relief!

We have a very unique A/C system. We had been having issues since we bought the house about 10 months prior and the only guy in the area that AHS sent out only said each time that he doesn't know a thing about it. It was turning into a bad situation when the unit finally quit for good. After some relationship building on both my part and AHS I can say that we got excellent service and this technician has now been trained up for just this particular kind of unit, of which I'm told there aren't any others in the state of TX. So, it was an easy choice to continue coverage with AHS.

They came out here even if it was over 107 degrees and were very quick in getting my air-conditioner fixed. They took the time to explain the issue and what has been done. Then, they were right on the top to fix my cash drawer within the day. I'm very satisfied with the company.

My experience with the contractor was very pleasant. However my experience with American Home Shield (AHS) has been anything but pleasant. In the past any claim I have had with them has been minor repairs which typically covered by the $75 copay. Meaning little or no cost to AHS for coverage. I have been a customer of AHS for 2 years and this is the first major claim I have had with them.
The Mechanical contractor determined that the Zone board and dampers need to be replace on my unit. The contractor submitted a detailed report of their diagnosis. Due to the faulty zone board, two of the thermostats in the home are not working. The cost of the repair is $1,100 and AHS has been stringing me along in their denial of the repair. My contract clearly states that the AC unit and ALL of its components are covered under the warranty. The only mention in the contract of circuit boards not being covered is in reference to a home automation system.
Each time I have called their customer service department to address this matter I am on hold for no less than 45 minutes before I am able to speak to anyone. Then the explanation I get is the claim has not been denied but they need to get a detailed report from the contractor. On the receipt the contractor clearly stated the diagnosis and the needed repair. After several 45-minute wait times only to be put on hold again and again and finally told that the case was transferred to their Contract Relations Department. A department that does not have a phone number or email address. I am very dissatisfied with AHS's unwillingness to honor their contract agreement.

We called in our request to get one of the two air conditioning units at our house checked out on 7/2 as it had stopped running. A 3rd party tech visited our house 7/5 and was unable to find a solution. We made several other phone calls after that, to check status at AHS and spent at least 45 minutes each time, waiting to speak with someone. AHS simply responded that they did not have written request from 3rd party vendor that they had sent on 7/5. We also made several phone calls to 3rd party vendor to have a response. Finally AHS sent another 3rd party tech on 7/10 who said he would have to order a part for our unit.
In the meantime, with over 95 degree heat each day, our second unit also gave up. Now we have to start over this process again for our second unit while our family suffers in this heat. It is beyond comprehension how AHS can take more than 12 days and counting to take care of a small situation. Customer satisfaction is definitely NOT the goal of AHS.

Discovered kitchen faucet inoperable and water leaking from pipes. Due to it being a Sunday and National Holiday plumbers were off duty. After calling several local plumbers, finally found one willing to service the issue. For reimbursement, we provided repair documents to American Home Shield that the faucet assembly was badly corroded inside after we called their Customer Service first to inquire if the approx. $200 was a cost that we can incur in repairs by our plumber as we needed operable plumbing as we have a newborn child and other family in the home this holiday reliant on plumbing in operable condition. The representative lady acknowledged that plumbing was an item covered in our contract and gave us the reimbursement department's P.O. Box to submit for reimbursement following repairs.
A week later, we received a letter from American Home Shield denying reimbursement, that it was outside the terms of the home warranty coverage. Despite following claims procedures per the home warranty contract and calling customer service to speak to a representative regarding the repairs, in the end, my time was spent in vain. I am extremely disappointed that what I thought was doing the right thing, a fix to a plumbing problem to minimize overall amount of damage to home, health, and safety, is not the way to approach it if you want your repairs covered. As a fellow consumer, do you think that's right?

Another day passed so I called and they said that they hadn't received anything from the contractor, same thing the next day and I should mention that each time I called I had to hold no less than 45 minutes.
4 days had passed and I was getting the same answer from AHS but my plumbing issue was getting worse. I asked for a different contractor because he wasn't responding and I didn't trust what he told me to start with, but they then said that request had to go through contractor relations department and they couldn't tell me how long that would take. I have been with them almost a year with one small repair (washer lid). Now my AC Unit is not working correctly. They said it needs to be replaced, but warranty does not cover it because it is not normal wear and tear. Maybe a lawnmower hit. I said the unit is on a brick patio. They said maybe snow. It is under my under deck system. Also, the unit has been service for the past 8+ years by BGE. I have lived in the home for two years and my home inspection reads unit is working good, but it is an older unit.
I had a 2nd opinion which I had to pay another $100.00 deductible same answer no normal wear and tear, but they would give me a great American Home Shield Discount on a new unit. Why do I have the home warranty if they are not going to cover what they have said? They get away with this not normal wear and tear crap. What does that mean anyway, I did something to the unit? To me they just take your money for years and when something big break down they say not normal wear and tear. I called to cancel the policy. They said no problem. Sure they have received only $800.00 from me, but my neighbor has had them for 10 years. I would just save my money and avoid the home warranty companies.

We were misled in the purchase by American Home Shield. What we were told we were receiving when it was purchased and then what we received after it was purchased were two different things. Then I was told that they don’t fix anything other than the problem. For example, if I have a waterline leaking if you can get to the waterline by walking up to it and grabbing it, they’ll repair it, but if it's behind the wall and there's difficulty accessing it, they won't repair it. So I've had water leaks and I had to come out of pocket to repair. I've had damaged done because of these problems that they do nothing with.
I had a dishwasher which started leaking which I was told was covered by one agent. On the phone, the agent said that if it's the dishwasher, just give them a call and they'll set up a separate service call other than the waterline leaking. So when I established that it was the dishwasher and called back, there was no record of my conversation with that person. The time that it took to get my repairs done from their vendor because I couldn’t use my own, it destroyed my hardwood floor. I would never even consider using that company again. Would I consider using a different home warranty? I don’t know. Maybe. Would I use that one with them? Absolutely not.
I manage my own store and customer service is just absolutely crucial and when I have a customer who’s had an issue, I'm going to do what I can. My employees know what we can and we can't do, so they're not giving false hope or false promises, but when you're told that they have no record of your last conversation, that to me is absolutely ridiculous. The last instance I had with the company, somebody was over promising again and I can't stand that. To me that’s poor business.
I told the company that someone needs to know about this. Maybe the next person who just spent $260,000 on a home who thought that these things would be covered would be more informed on what they're going to do and what they're not going to do. I know nothing can change what happened, but if it can help the next person and then I'm all for it. At this point I have started promoting people to absolutely stay as far away from American Home Shield as they can get.

I've been with American Home Shield for a year, and back in May, both of my hot water heaters failed and they were leaking into our home. My partner called me and told me to call the plumber out to get them to come out to take care of it. I called AHS and put in a request and they issued someone a work order to come out, however, it was a Saturday and they won’t be able to get out until Monday.
I could not risk that so I had a plumber come out to look at the heaters. The plumber said both of them have failed so we need to replace them. I called AHS back at that time and they said they need to make sure that the plumbing company is on an approved list and they need to see whether or not they can actually do the work and then they'll issue an outside authorization number. The plumbing company called, got the outside authorization number from AHS and at that time they provided them with that number, which I got.
The contractors were fantastic and did a great job, but they were not on AHS' list. They did the work repair, I paid for it and then I was given an address to send all the paperwork and the invoice to AHS to be reimbursed. That was May 9th. I sent a certified letter on May 10th to AHS with the invoice showing the authorization number requesting reimbursement, and it is now July 7th and I have yet to see a check.
I have complete records of calling them now for 22 times in the last 60 days. I was told that the check was cut and going to be reimbursed once it was finally finished being approved, and then I was told that it was not going to be paid because they don’t pay on outside authorizations. Then I was told that someone would call me back, which I heard four times. I have proof of all the times I called and all the people I spoke to, so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I contacted my attorney, who is going to be sending the next letter.
Filing the claim is simple. I did it online and then when I realized I needed an outside authorization, I called and spoke to a representative who was terrible. In fact, their reps are completely inadequate in their jobs. They don’t know what’s going on. They never have answers to questions and they endlessly transfer you to different departments who can’t give the answer that you need. It’s frustrating. It's the worst experience I’ve ever had dealing with a company in my life. I want my money back, otherwise, I’m going to cancel my current policy I have renewed with them and sue them.

I am a customer of the warranty program American Home Shield (AHS) and called to have a service request on my AC unit that started to cool my home. American Home Shield sent out the company AAA All Brands located at 9426 Royal Vista Ave Clermont, Florida 34711 to my home on June 16, 2016. A contractor by the name of ** show up to my home and I told him the issues that I was having with unit and he did an analysis of my system and informed to me that my AC compressor was bad and needed to be fixed. He informed me that he had to call the diagnosis to his company who in turn had to notify AHS to see if they would authorize the repair and if they did, would schedule a follow up to fix the problem. I paid the $100 service fee as part of my contract agreement from AHS but did not receive an invoice from the company.
A couple days later, I received word that American Home Shield approved the cost of a new ac compressor and the part was on order. On June 22, AAA All Brands returned to my home with the new compressor in hope of getting my ac unit going. After about 4-5 hours, the technician informed me that he could not get the compressor to start because the breaker for my ac unit in my house would “trip” every time he would try to turn it on from the outside by my unit. He asked me if this ever happened before & I informed him that it did not and that his company was the last company to service this unit. He informed me that he replaced some of the other components in the outside ac unit in an attempt to get it working but the same problem prevailed: every time he would turn on the breaker outside, it would trip the ac breaker on the inside breaker box.
He informed me that he had to leave because it was late and told us that the inside breaker for the ac unit need to be upgraded from the 30 AMP to the 40 Amp because he said that compressor is not getting enough power and was the reason that the compressor would not turn on. He also informed me that when we got the breaker replaced, he would come back and fix the problem. I paid his company $300 for the new Freon needed and still did not receive an invoice for work completed. The company also left their trash in my yard that included: old compressor, compressor box, wires, old components, and Freon container which has to be disposed of in a certain manner. Attempts to have the company to address this problem went unanswered and from AHS as well.
That night, I had a family member replace the 30-amp breaker to a 40 amp and when I turned on the breaker from the outside unit, it tripped the inside breaker box as before. I called the contractor on his cell phone and informed him that per his request of changing the 30 amp to the 40 amp the same problem occurred. He informed me that he would come by in the morning to continue to work on this issue. On June 23, 2016, the contractor ** returned to work on the issue and after about an hour, he could not get my system up & running because the circuit breaker continued to trip when turned on from the outside and the compressor was shorted but did not give me an answer as to why it became shorted.
I finally received an invoice and when I asked him why I did not get one on the visits earlier, he stated that he had our email address in the wrong area on his handheld system. He told me that he had to talk with his company & AHS about the issue and steps going further. By this time, it has been 6 days since our ac unit was working even though it worked somewhat before they worked on it. Upon further view of my invoice, the contractor left the following notes on the invoice: “Notes: Compressor checked out on day of install. Customer had 30 amp breaker switched to 40 amp breaker. This morning my compressor is shorted and the breaker is still tripping.”
A couple days later, I received a call from the Authorizations Department from American Home Shield informing me that they would not replace or repair work on the damaged compressor because the ac company informed them that because we did not have the 40-amp breaker replaced by a licensed electrician & thus responsible for the damage to the compressor. I informed AHS of the problems the technician had in installing the system but to no avail and asked them who wrote the report to them: the service technician or the company manager but they could not give me that information. I called AAA All Brands to dispute what they wrote in that report and to request a copy of the report which I was told would arrive via email in 2-3 days but never received my multiple request via email & phone calls. I did find out however that a manager submitted the information to AHS & not the service technician.
I requested a 2nd opinion from AHS regarding this issue and was informed that if breaker issue was indeed the problem for the damaged compressor I would be responsible for paying the company a $100 service see and their decision to no longer repair my system would stand. I agreed to their terms and had them set up an appointment for another AC company to come to my home to diagnose the problem.
On June 24, 2016, Dylan from Air Doctor A/C Heating of Orlando, Inc. arrived at our residence to diagnose the work from the previous company. After an hour, the technician could not get our system to work & noted the following: No Cool. Found improper install of compressor. Wired improperly. System currently not working. Contractor who installed compressor left all their trash including old compressor on the side of the house.
I called AHS a couple days later with the information provided & informed me that AAA All Brands would have to return to the house to fs the problem as the compressor is under warranty through them and they are responsible for the problem and someone would be contacting us in couple of days to set up a visit. I requested that the work be done by some other company because we did not trust the work they did earlier and given the fact that they tried to blame us for damaging the compressor but to no avail. I was told that because another company would not want to be responsible for the work All Brands did previously, I had to allow them to return to fix the problem.
I made a call to AHS a couple days later because the AAA All Brands did not schedule a return visit. Someone from the authorizations department made a call to the company and we were assured that they would be contacting us today or tomorrow regarding them coming to remove the old compressor & replacing it with a new one. I requested that the same technician who installed the previous compressor not return because we do not trust the quality of his work. They informed me that a senior technician would be coming to our house to get our system working.
On June 29, 2016, AAA All Brands called to set up an appointment to remove & install the new compressor. They removed the old compressor on June 30th and installed the new compressor on July 1st. AAA All Brands sent their senior technician which also happened to be the same technician from before to install the new compressor but just like before, he could not get my ac system to work. The same problem is occurring again and the contractor informed me that they would have to send out an electric technician to diagnose the problem but neither the company nor AHS can tell me when this will happen. By this time, we have been with AC for over 2 weeks and nobody from AAA All Brands nor American Home Shield seems interested in resolving this problem. I requested all notes and documentation from my experiences with AHS with my many phone calls but was told in certain words that I would need a court order.
In my view, AHS has not held up their requirements as outlined in my contract as well as providing quality service from trusted, knowledgeable contractors. To make matters worse, AAA All Brands did not remove their trash or old equipment from earlier and left another box with wiring on top of my unit. American Home Shield nor AAA All Brands will not take responsibility for their actions.
Since this letter was written and my complaint filed with the BBB, AAA All brands has returned to my home on July 5th & July 6th in an attempt to fix our Ac system but just like the many times before, have been unable to remedy the problem. The primary problem is the compressors they order from Carrier which are made in Mexico. They claim that many of the parts from this company are damaged before they arrive. Regardless, we are almost 3 weeks without ac in our home. They now claim that another part has to be ordered and they will call to set up an appointment when it arrives.
In addition, I had a company by the name of Advance Electric come to my home to on a service call to check my circuit breaker in my house and my ac unit. I paid them $85 to see if our house was causing the circuit breaker to trip every time AAA All brands replaces our compressor (which they previously claimed) or some other issue. They found that the cause of the trip was improper wiring when the last compressor was installed as well as other items the previous technician replaced (a kick start) that was not needed on a new compressor. Our circuit breaker checked out fine including the 40 amp breaker a family member replaced.
Today, July 8, 2016, I spoke with Jennifer from American Home Shield for an update status on our situation and their solution to our problem and was informed that a woman named Christina from Service Support was researching our problem (mainly because of the complaint filed with BBB) and offered a $125 credit towards a window unit or a fan. This was never offered to us the weeks before and they have no time table as to when they will finish their “research” but assured me that someone will be contacting us regarding this issue.
AHS does not seem to understand that every day that goes by is another hot day for me & my family. They have no problem contacting me when my credit information changed regarding payment, they have no problem deducting their fee from my account every month, but not keeping us in the loop regarding our problem, solutions to our problems. At this point, we have no faith in the service or decision making at AHS and will be canceling our service with them when this is resolved.

We live in Phoenix, AZ and our AC went out in May. It is almost mid July and our unit is still not working. When I called to place the work order with their customer service back in May, the girl that took my call was completely incompetent and failed to answer my questions. During a 30 minute call, I spent about 25 of those minutes on hold for her to come back with a one or two word response to my questions. She finally dispatched All Star Refrigerant to my home. The contractor with this company called me to set up an appointment for the following day but then did not show up. When he finally arrived he indicated that my unit needed refrigerant and charged me $350 with the impression that everything would be fine. And because we were in the middle of construction on our home, he told us that we needed to get up on the roof to clean the coils once we were done.
Less than a month goes by and my unit is again not working properly. I have made several attempts to contact American Home Shield, their automated system indicated it was a ten minute hold when in reality it was 30 to 40 minutes before I eventually hung up. I eventually called the contractor that came to my home hoping that he could help me. He agreed to come to my home the following day to assess the situation. Well you can guess it, he didn't show up. Four days went by (Monday night at 10 pm) before I got an email from him asking if he could come on Wednesday, I agreed. He showed up on Tuesday without notice or calling anyone to advise he was coming and then called me Wednesday night (at 9 pm) to say he got on my roof and that the unit is working just fine and that was what he would be reporting to the home warranty company.
Part of his report indicated that the unit was cooling the house properly, which in my opinion is difficult to report when he didn't even enter my home. We are out $350 and nothing has been fixed. In addition, my hot water heater stopped working and they sent a technician out (charged me 75 dollars) to say that he couldn't help me because lighting it was a safety hazard. They also indicated that nothing would be covered because parts were missing from the water heater. The hot water heater was in that condition when we bought the house (in March). He quoted me $1,100 to replace the "400 gallon water heater" for my 962 sq. foot house and left us with no hot water. We ended up eating the bill for a brand new hot water heater. Overall their contractors are unprofessional and flaky. It is so good to be a new home owner and know that I am protected by my Coldwell Banker recommended home warranty.

It was Thursday, before Memorial Day weekend. My cooktop stopped working and I called AHS. The same day, the subcontractor contacted me. They said they'd be there tomorrow in the morning but did not show up. They called in the morning and said they'd be there in the afternoon but never showed up. I stayed the whole Memorial Day weekend, when I had friends over, without a cooktop. A week later the contractor called me, but I had called someone else to come and fix that and they charged me almost $400. I couldn’t get it done over the weekend as everyone was off over the weekend. But excluding that last experience, I'm a hundred-percent satisfied with American Home Shield as they are very helpful. I've been with them for over five years and have only had one bad experience.

I’ve had AHS a long time and I’ve used them several times. The one major problem I had was with the air conditioning and heating and they took care of that. They replaced the unit. Recently, I was having some plumbing problems so I filed a claim. Their claim process was straightforward. I made a call, then they gave me the name of the company who’ll be coming out and within 45 minutes to an hour, the plumber called and said they’d be out the next day. They fixed the problem and gave me the paperwork. He told me that it’s good for 30 days and if anything happened, to give them a call. Right now, it is still functioning.

American Home Shield was long on hold time to get the claim done but when I reached someone, the person was very pleasant. The person who came was very nice and respectful but he took the washing machine apart and said that he had to order a part but not sure when he'll be back. It's a mom-and-pop place as opposed to one of their more mainstreams contractors. So hopefully, he ordered it today. He's not sure though if he'll be back this weekend or some time next week. He gave a card and if I don't hear from anybody by Saturday, he said to call them, and I don't like that. I like specific answers. I can deal with them telling me it's going to be a week if they know it's going to be a week. I won't be happy but I know something about what's going on. So I can't say I'm pleased at this point but I wouldn't say that the gentleman who came was negligent either. In fact I think he was very apologetic but this is the first negative outcome.
Typically when he comes, whatever needs to be fixed was fixed but today is not that day. I hope AHS would choose the more mainstream people next time. I don't know who AHS have contracts with, but I hope that they would increase the range. I know that state location determines who they could use but I would hope that AHS would look into this a little more because contractors would say that they will work with you but once you sign up, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're qualified. Other than that, everything else that we dealt with has been good.

Our daughter is a chemotherapy patient and it can't be too hot in the house. Our upstairs air conditioner wasn’t working so we called American Home Shield. They set us up with a contractor and the contractor came out and attempted to repair it but they couldn’t. We ended up having to replace the whole system. The only issue with their claim process was the wait times, but that’s not exactly anything that they can help with because they got a lot of calls especially at summertime and people calling in about air conditioners and other similar items that eat up their phone lines. Their contractors were above and beyond professional. They also gave my wife and I information on who best to get the new system with and made sure that the system was the proper size for a house. Overall, it was a great experience and AHS is someone I would use to maintain the warranty with.

My air-conditioning went out a couple of days ago. It's been 87 degrees in my home and AHS wouldn't give me other numbers to people that may have been able to respond the same day because they were within compliance of their rules and regulations - a two-day turnaround time. So I had to pay $450 out of my pocket to get my air-conditioning fixed because I have a dog and a child and I couldn't stay in here a week without air-conditioning. One time my heat was out. Same situation, it didn't matter. It's always been the same experience, which is not good. I will ask other companies what their processes are because to me, sometimes three days waiting for something is ridiculous. I'm very disappointed and I will be looking for another company as soon as my year is up. I paid the entire year upfront and AHS did not call to say if they would reimburse even part of it. They said there’s nothing they can do for me.

I have had this warranty for about 3 months and can honestly say it is the worst home warranty company ever. Their customer service has a minimum wait time of 45 min and once on the phone they are little to no help. My air conditioner went out so I put a service request in and was directed to a company not local to my residence. They were not available to come out for 4 business days. I called customer service and they said they would need to confirm with the company to reroute. They called and the business was closed so they said they would hear back from them tomorrow and I wouldn't need to do anything. I would receive an email with the new contractors contact info. 2 days go by and I hear nothing. I call back and after sitting on hold for 55 minutes with no answer I had to hang up, lunch breaks are only so long. My husband and I decide to just pay out of pocket and have the air conditioner repaired.
Next dilemma, I wake up this morning to a puddle of water coming from my freezer... the refrigerator has stopped working. I put a service request in online and am directed to yet another company out of the area, they will not be able to come out until Tuesday (today is Saturday) as there are no techs in this area. I call customer service (48 min hold time) and am told that is an acceptable time frame as they have 48 hours and cannot redirect.
I ask to speak to a supervisor at this point. The representative emails the supervisors on staff and to no surprise nobody is able to speak to me at this time. I explained to the representative that this home warranty has done nothing but give me grief since day one. At that time she receives an email back from a supervisor wanting to know why I needed to speak to them. She responds and gets an email stating "please submit a 24-48 hr callback form as there is nobody to discuss at this time." So if you are in need of a home warranty I strongly encourage you to explore other options.

I sat on hold for over 35 minutes waiting for a "dedicated representative". I hung up. Friday I called a total of 4 times holding a minimum of 20 minutes each time. I tried the "requesting service, service status" anything to reach a human.
It is now Saturday 9:46 am and I have yet to hear from a contractor and am still on hold with AHS. At this moment I have been holding 14 minutes and still holding. I am totally disgusted. I'd like to have a way that I can talk to an operator or whoever does the planning so that I won't just have whoever is up next for a job. Because there's no place for that whether I go online or on the automated telephone. Because I've recently had Active Appliance come back for 3 times and they even waited for 3 weeks before coming for the fourth time and yet they couldn't fix my issues. They're arrogant and I'm very unhappy with them. On the other hand, I really like MS Appliance.because they came and wanted to serve. They've come for 4 times and were able to do everything, especially my washer.

I called AHS for a repair on a dishwasher. Submitting a claim is easy except usually, I have to wait a while for somebody to pick up. It took a few days for them to send a man out since we are not close enough to many of the technicians. So the technician came, diagnosed it and said that it needs a part which he didn’t have with him so they had to order the part. Because we’re not on their usual route, we scheduled a week to install the part. Right after that, I discovered that my dishwasher wasn’t draining so I called them again and they sent him out again (this was another week later) and discovered that he hadn’t set something right. It was easily fixed and he took care of it. Overall, my experience was inconveniently satisfactory. I'd give them a kind of a C+.

I used to have a really hard time years ago with AHS. We had it up in a different community we lived in and my telephone quit working. The phone company I contacted said I needed an electrician. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent an electrician. I went back-and-forth about four times before I finally got to talk to a human. I’d been without a phone for two weeks at that time. They sent him out and he had to crawl through a really old attic with all this old electrical stuff, but he got my phone fixed.
But now, American Home Shield is okay. I submitted a claim recently to American Home Shield over the phone for my dishwasher because the door is broken and the dishes weren’t getting very clean anymore. Now, when I call, I don't get a human most of the time unlike before. It asks several questions and then gives who to call to set up a specific time for the appointment. The guy who was sent out fixed the door and replaced the motor. He had to order the parts in but it was good.
However, AHS' prices are going so I don’t know if it’s going to be worth it forever. Right now, I pay $43 and some change every month and the service charge is $75. When I think about it, though, if I call the appliance dude for service, it probably would have been more than $75. So, it’s a bargain but I used to pay only $43 a month and the service fee was $40 a month. Every year, it goes up by $5 and, at some point, it no longer makes sense.

I opened a service request for my downstairs HVAC unit originally in June of 2015 along with a service request for my other HVAC unit. During that time the downstairs unit was determined that it needed to be replaced. At that time I was called by AHS to inform me that the company that had come out and recommended the unit be replaced had over $2000 of "additional fees" that I would have to incur to include spending $350+ dollars for the plastic pad that the unit would sit on. I use another local company to service my units annually so I called them and asked about these extra fees and did my own research. I found that I could purchase the pad for approx. $80 at Lowe's.
At that time I did a cash in lieu because it was blatantly obvious that the company sent to my house by AHS was trying to overcharge me. This is on my downstairs unit that I had fixed and the current issue that I have is in regards to my upstairs unit. This information becomes useful when describing the issues that I'm currently having with my upstairs unit.
During the same time-frame (June 2015) I opened another service request for my upstairs unit not cooling and a water spot on my wall from the coolant lines condensating in the wall. The same company looked at this unit (prior to my cash in lieu for the downstairs unit) and said there was nothing that they could do for this unit other than fill it up. So I spent at least $255 if not more at that time out of pocket. This was obviously enough R22 to get me through summer but in April 2016 I started to have the same issues: lack of cooling upstairs and water spot on my wall. I opened another service request with AHS and another contractor came and said the same thing: "I'm only allowed by AHS to fill the unit not troubleshoot the system." So again I paid $255 out of pocket to have him fill the unit with R22.
On June 28th I opened another ticket on the same system for the same issues described above. I reached out to AHS after the technician was scheduled to come out, via chat. In that conversation I was assured that the technician was coming out to troubleshoot the root cause of the issue and not simply to fill my unit up and leave. When the technician arrived he had not been notified nor had his office been notified by AHS that they had authorization to troubleshoot. I provided the invoice from the previous company that came out in April and that was the only way he could get approval to troubleshoot the system. After troubleshooting the system he found what everyone had suspected all along, the coil in the upstairs piece was leaking R22. He filled the unit with R22 because at that point temperatures had reached mid 90's and were expected to exceed 100 degrees by the weekend.
So again I paid him $255 for filling my unit and coming out. At that time I asked specifically if he would have to evacuate the entire system of R22 when he comes out to do the repair. He explicitly said no, that he would not have to do that. He stated that he would push the R22 down to the bottom portion of the system, cap it off, replace the coil, and he may have to top off a pound of R22. I called AHS that afternoon to discuss getting a reimbursement for the $255's and I was told that it would get sent to another department and that I would receive a callback within 24 hours. They could not get me a decision or discuss until the technician sent in his findings. That evening I was called by another representative from AHS stating that the technician had submitted his findings and that AHS had approved the repairs, however, there were additional costs that totaled more than $1000.
The technician stated he found "code issues" like the drain pan not being level, the float switch not being properly configured, and the drain line not being properly installed. These are issues that I told him about from 2010 when the system was installed by another AHS HVAC approved vendor. These issues have since been resolved by the original vendor. He also reported that he would have to add 8 lbs. of R22 (which is filling the system completely) which contradicts everything he told me when he was out at my house. Obviously this is another case of another AHS approved vendor trying to steal money from a customer. I explained all of this to the rep from AHS during this call and she was going to send this information up to the vendor's rep. I had asked that we do another cash in lieu at that time and I was assured that I would receive a call within 24 hours. I have yet to get called back on either of these issues.
I have tried to use your chat and the representatives on there when I said that if something was not going to be done about any of this then I would have to cancel my contract and I was told that she would be glad to put in the cancellation request for me. So basically AHS would rather cancel my contract instead of actually doing what they are contractually obligated to do. I called last night and after an hour of being on hold I finally got through to a rep who told me that she could not and would not issue me a reimbursement. I question this because in my previous calls I was told this needs to go to another department so how does she have the authority to tell me that I can't be given a reimbursement.
I asked to speak to a supervisor about that and before I could get another word out she put me back on hold. I waited on hold for another hour and then an automated message came over and said that the telephone system was experiencing difficulties and that my call was dropped. I've never heard of a system telling me that it was about to cut me off, it just cuts me off. This appears that AHS again is trying to avoid taking care of the contractual obligation. I live in South Carolina and for the past 5 days it has reached temperatures of 100 degrees or more. I have 2 children, a 3 year old and an 11 month old and all of the bedrooms in my house are upstairs where the bad HVAC system is supposed to be cooling.
Everyday when I get home the upstairs temperature is in excess of 85 degrees and doesn't cool off until late in the evening. So at this point I am extremely disappointed with the level of service and responsiveness from AHS representatives. I'm disgusted by the AHS approved HVAC vendors that have come out to my house in the past year, who have done nothing but attempt to steal money from me. I expect to be contacted via phone from a representative that can answer the concerns that I've outlined above. If I do not receive a call in the next 24 hours I will be forced to assume that AHS is willingly in breach of contract and I will have to take legal action.

American Home Shield was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. We recently purchased our first home and our real estate agent sold us on the home warranty in the case of any issues arising. We took the bait and are now regretting spending money that could have been spent on real contractors. When we first moved into the home we noticed a few small things that needed addressed. There were a few leaky fixtures and what seemed to be a blockage in the kitchen sink and bathtub. We were unaware of these issues because we didn't use the water prior to purchase more than seeing if it functioned. We made our first claim over 3 months ago. 2 companies and 5 stops later there has still been no work completed.
The first plumbing company made three separate stops in which they broke a drain pipe and damaged my porcelain tub while failing to clear the aforementioned stoppage. The second company identified the stoppage as a serviceable drum trap that was most likely clogged. The tech was in and out of my house in about 10 minutes and didn't seem eager to complete the work.
I got a call a day later from AHS letting me know that my claim could not be resolved as a missing part in the drain overflow "could" be causing the blockage and missing parts aren't covered under warranty. We now sit 3 months separated from our first call and have had to contact a plumbing service out of the warranty because we need work completed and to this point AHS has only created more issues than they have fixed. While I am sure that some people have found success in this, I have not seen the same success. I am a young home owner and was hoping this would provide some insurance in the case that issues would arise in our first home purchase. To this point I would not recommend a home warranty to any home owner and my plan will be to pass this word along to the many young teachers I work with that are searching for a home.

I have this ongoing issue with the dishwasher and it still hasn’t been resolved. We have American Home Shield's contractor come out six times and it's been a nightmare. The first two contractors that they sent were not reputable companies and had no business in being qualified to even change a light bulb. They were horrible and told many untruths when they were reporting back to AHS on the problem with the dishwasher. So I'm still stuck with a dishwasher that doesn’t clean since March. I've submitted claims over the phone and the wait time was terrible. Their reps were fine but when asked to repair something for six times, they don’t actually listen to the concern. They made us wait because they have to elevate it up to somebody else.
AHS is a great product to have but unfortunately, when it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t. Also, we don’t know the reps that we're talking to. They're at some sort of call center. It's really frustrating because we have to tell the facts again, and again, and again. There’s no warm handover on calls. That’s something that AHS really need to improve on. If they want to get people to have this product, they really need to step up a little bit. It's hit or miss with them. When it works, it's great. But there's no institutional sort of continuity or recall. It's really frustrating to call for so many times and have to explain the story again. They need to replace the thing already.

The first time I called AHS was on May 30th for my washer and dishwasher. The latch on my dishwasher doesn't close and the only thing that was wrong with my washer was leaking from the bottom, which I thought was just the tub or a loose hose. Since then, the contractor has ordered parts, came back, can't fix, or didn't have the right tools. I recently called them this morning again to find out what's going on and another part had to be ordered. Now they told me it'll be Friday before they can come back out and look at the washer and dishwasher. It's horrible!
This contractor seemed to be very inexperienced. He said he can't get it done and needed another wrench. The last time he came out, two other guys came out with him and they still couldn't fix my washer. Then he said he had to order another part. He fixed the latch on the dishwasher but it still didn't work. So now he's telling me that he has to order a circuit board. It looks like every time he comes out, he breaks something because he's always beating on my appliances and he has to order another part. Right now, my washer is in parts on the floor in the laundry room. Both the tub and the agitator are out.
I've talked to AHS several times, but they told me that all I could do is wait for the part. It's really disturbing and and I'm not pleased with it at all. When I talk with the reps over the phone, it's a different one each time. The first one that I complained to said that maybe it wasn't cost-effective for the contractor to keep ordering parts, and I thought that was a good summation. The next rep that I talked told me that this issue will be sent to the department that hires the contractors. I was supposed to hear from them, but no one ever called me back. That's why I called back today. I said if they don't get anything done by Friday, I'm going to see if I can get them to change contractors.
Before this, the service was great. I had a problem with the oven and the contractor came and fixed it in a couple of days. Then we had problems with our air conditioner and the contractor came and repaired it too. It's just this particular contractor that AHS sent out. I recommended AHS to one of my sisters and I called her today and told her I'm not having a good experience.

Plus, he showed up on-time, called before, and gave us plenty of notice to meet him. He was fantastic, very professional, and kind. I couldn't be more pleased with the appointment. Moreover, claim submission was really quick, simple, and few steps on the computer - I can just log in and as long as I know my phone number and zip code, it takes me right to my account. We've been really pleased with American Home Shield. We've had them for years in multiple locations, and so it's been a really good thing for us.

I had to have a broken pipe replaced. The AHS contractor did a fine job in finally repairing it, but I had to be cautious here because I said I would never let that company into my home again. I made it very clear when the serviceman came in that I wasn’t happy because they literally ripped me off years ago in the same area. The repair was $220 and they said they could do several things and got it to $1110. To replace a two-foot section of copper pipe, they did the band aid approach up to $1200 dollars. When the serviceman opened the wall up, he got in there and asked who did the repair. I said they did and he said that it's horrible. So I would never recommend this company to anybody ever. But the serviceman was very good and got it fixed.

We always had a good experience with American Home Shield and we love them. Our most recent claim with them had to do with our air conditioner where one valve had stopped. AHS sent somebody who fixed it in five minutes. But before that happened, nine months ago, AHS put a new air conditioner in our home which is working great. The contractors AHS sent always come in and call us back on time.

I like American Home Shield. I have called them at 2:30 at night and needed a technician the next day. AHS got them and they came the next day by 11:00 AM. I needed them so badly because I wasn't going to go to work that next day and all worked out perfectly. It was because they were able to get the claim processed at 10:30 at night, so I was very glad about it. The service was good too. My water heater started flooding and it was a mess so AHS got me plumbers. They fixed everything so it was a life saver. I really appreciate it. I've even told some other people that they have to get American Home Shield because they're very good.

I recently had a major component of my home's central air conditioning fail. The contractor assigned by AHS (Stockdale Service) was able to come out and diagnose the problem the next day, and repair it by week's end (because they had to order the part). The contractor educated me and helped me. While I know that my air conditioning system is aged and becoming obsolete, it is good to know that AHS is partnering with people with solid know-how to work through this. Eventually, when the system needs replacing entirely, I know that AHS will support this if it be the recommendation of the diagnosing contractor.

I have been an AHS customer since 1999. I have tolerated having to be on hold sometimes up to 1 hr and 10 minutes just to speak with a customer service rep because they have no ability via their online customer portal or via their website to email anything. I will be cancelling my home warranty with them ASAP after my last experience.
Contractor assigned comes out to my house for a water leak that initially we thought was a slab leak due to water seeping from below flooring and under walls. I saw them at street prior to coming in opening up 1 of my 2 metal meter plates and turning off valve. It was determined my air conditioner condenser line was clogged in sub basin of floor under house.
My plumber unclogged leak and left. Unfortunately, damage was already done and I have $50k in water damage to floors throughout house. In the week after they came, I noticed that my sprinklers would not come on. Could not resolve issue at panel, so called a sprinkler repair contractor. Paid a $120 service fee for them to be there for 1 hour and 30 min. prior to deciphering that my valve for water to my sprinkler had been turned off. I was livid. I paid sprinkler repair company and immediately called My Plumber to report what had happened and that I need to be reimbursed for their incompetence.
After 3 calls, I never got put through to a supervisor. Instead, the technician responded to me who was of course defensive, denied any wrongdoing and said hell no he was not accountable and that he did not turn off any valve. Then hung up on me. I resorted to calling AHS because they hire the contractors they outsource and thought I would get them to manage the issue. After 5 phone calls into customer service, over 10 hrs. of wasted time on the phone, talking with 2 supervisors and getting told the problem would be handed over to contractor relations to address directly with the company, AHS tells me that I must handle the issue directly with the company and there is nothing they can or will do.
My plumber "thought" they turned off my water. They didn't. They turned off my sprinkler. Worse yet, upon their departure they didn't turn back on what they turned off. How was I as the homeowner supposed to know what they did or didn't do. They should be accountable. Isn't that why they have insurance if they don't pay it out of pocket?
How can a home warranty company that assigns contractors to their clients not hold the contractors accountable for doing a competent job! Absolutely horrible customer service. Zero accountability. Zero ability to bypass the normal customer service procedures for pre-existing work orders or to have the ability to speak with a supervisor. They state that there is no recourse for me as the homeowner and I just have to deal directly with the company that they hired. Unacceptable. After 16 years, I will happily take my business elsewhere to another HW company. AHS is overpriced anyway and my deductible and monthly fee just keeps going up monthly. Steer clear of this company-it is evident they don't value their customers.

After paying AHS for 5+years, I had a problem with a microwave. The repair company made multiple visits and finally took the unit. I was selling the house and the microwave was the only holdup. Repeated calls to AHS and the repair company resulted in promises that parts had been ordered. At the two month mark, I went out and bought a microwave. A week later the repair company called and said the original unit was ready. I told them to keep it. AHS wouldn't reimburse me for the new microwave, although I have the right to "appeal" their decision.
After the microwave incident, the central A/C went out. The service company diagnosed it as a bad compressor. Covered, so no problem, right? Wrong. AHS will pay to replace the compressor, on a 21 year old unit, but I would have to pay nearly $1,400 to have the coil cleaned and for freon. What a joke! I'm cancelling coverage and filing a complaint with the Georgia Consumer Protection Unit as well as the BBB.

My clothes dryer no longer works, and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield in May but it has still not be taken care of to this day. I spoke to their reps and they've been very helpful. However, it has not been a pleasant experience overall. As a matter fact, I asked them to give me the complaints department and the P.O. Box because I plan on submitting an email as well as mailing it to Iowa.
One of the servicemen said that the issue was that Home Shield keeps ordering defective used parts. They’re doing everything they can to not replace the dryer. The same thing happened with my microwave. I called it in and the guy came out and said nothing was wrong with it. I kept saying that something was wrong with it. The microwave caught on fire a month later, so they replaced it.
Sears is the company responsible for fixing the Whirlpool appliance and I had three repairmen come here. The first gentleman tried to fix it but couldn’t. They ordered a part and when it came, the second gentleman came to fix it. I used the dryer three days later and it still didn’t work. The dryer doesn’t turn off. I turned it off and left my house. The next morning, the dryer was still going. I was appalled because my child is in the house with a dryer that continuously goes. The last gentleman that came in said the parts are defective, so he ordered another part. The part came in, the gentleman came back, and it’s still not working. I don’t know what else to do besides hire an attorney to get what I’m supposed to get. I pay for service, and they really don’t care so I'm very dissatisfied.

American Home Shield made the claims process really easy and I really appreciated the service. In fact, I got my girlfriend to sign up with AHS at the beginning of this year. The vendor through AHS who has done work here before took two weeks to get the issue resolved. The initial diagnosis of the problem, while it may have been a contributing factor, was not the ultimate resolution to the issue. Other than that, my heat pump has been working great. We had a contractor given by AHS come out to our home only to tell us we had to call a different contractor to get the problem resolved, after they charged us the $75 fee. We spoke with an AHS representative on the phone, explained the issue we were having and they said if we corrected the problem that the contractor stated was the issue when he came out and we were still having a problem AHS would send someone else out to fix it. We have since corrected the "original problem" as stated by the first contractor and are still having the same issue. After jumping on the phone again with a different AHS representative and explaining to them the problem they created a new Service Request. We were so excited that this issue would finally be corrected, until it came to the appointment time. AHS sent out the same contractor and we got the same result as the first time, after another $75 was charged to us.
We are very disappointed with AHS, the process you have to go through to get something fixed, and the amount of time they put you on hold when you try to call them and speak to a customer service representative. Each time you call you get a different representative and they tell you a different story. I am very disappointed in the way this company operates, it has been a huge waste of time for both myself and my husband, and we are throwing money away on unsuccessful service calls instead of actually just fixing the issue. I was forced to get this coverage when we bought our new house, but never again will I make that mistake. "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

I am VERY dissatisfied with my most recent experience with AHS. Our hot water heater started leaking about a month ago. I contacted AHS, they sent a Tech out, I paid my deductible of $125.00 and the Tech replaced a pipe. I mentioned that the unit is 16 years old and probably needs to be replaced, but I was assured a new pipe was all that was needed. A month or so later, I go down in my basement, and there is water everywhere - the water heater is leaking AGAIN. Went thru the same process as before, a different company was sent out and I was told the unit needed to be replaced - DUH! I was also told that I would have almost $600.00 in out of pocket expenses. Why I have been paying for this warranty faithfully every month for the last 3 years! I tried to call AHS to get an itemized list of these costs that were not covered under my warranty. When I called, I was on hold for an hour and 40 minutes!
Needless to say, I was livid! To make a long story short, I did get the itemized list and one of the things on that list was a drip pan which was going to cost me $140.00. I went to Home Depot and the most expensive pan there was $30.00. I knew then that I was being ripped off! I was offered a "Cash in Lieu" option because the tank that I currently have (65 gallon) they no longer carry and they replace "like for like" as I was told. We decided to go with that option. We hired our own plumber and purchased a unit and paid for it out of pocket. I called AHS about a week later to follow up on the CIL and was on hold for 45 minutes! When I finally talked to someone, I was told the most I would be reimbursed for was $376.66. WHAT??? When I just paid 5x that much... I'm done!

I have worked with Home Shield from the perspective of a contractor, and because of this I would NEVER sign up or recommend their "services". While there is some calls that we ran successfully with no hang-ups, that is not the norm. The first issue arises when discussing with the homeowner what Home Shield would or would not cover. The homeowner was not very informed about their own policies, which made us as the contractor look like the bad guy right off the bat. After that (sometimes uncomfortable) discussion, it took a half hour or more to reach someone at Home Shield to be authorized to do the work. The people who answer did not generally have a clue what we were trying to accomplish for the homeowner, so they would deny authorization. This meant that the homeowner was responsible for the entire cost of service, once again we looked like the bad guy in the situation.
So before we even began the job we had wasted in upwards of an hour explaining policy to Home Shield customers, and sitting on the phone trying to get approval to do the work. This was not only a frustrating waste of unpaid time for our technicians, it was equally frustrating to the customer who was expecting to have their issue resolved and covered by Home Shield! Occasionally the homeowner would then contact Home Shield independently and actually get them to cover the service call after the job has been completed. We were always glad to hear that for the sake of the homeowners, but that also creates a bookkeeping nightmare for our office.
Aside from all of this, I was amazed at how little cost this company actually covers. The customer's deductible is anywhere from $50-$100 dollars. So for all the trouble, you are only saving $20-$70 dollars!! Please keep your hard earned money and let local companies provide your service needs directly. We strive to meet and exceed our customers' needs and expectations, WITHOUT the runaround.

WE JUST HAD 4TH OF JULY AND I HAVE HAD NO AIR CONDITIONING SINCE APRIL. I have called American Home Shield about 25 times in the last 3 months. If I am not on hold for 20-30 minutes and do get a human being, it will be a robotic entity that can do nothing, and I mean not the simplest requests beyond take your service call.
I open my online account, but I can't make a service call online because it says (!) BIG EXCLAMATION POINT - PAST DUE PREMIUM. During one of my talks with a service rep. I was told to call my mortgage bank. Ok I did that and the bank says, "We pay that out on the first of the month." They sent me my papers to prove it. So next time I call AHS and complain, the service rep tells me I am caught up on payments. I ask why the online account is wrong. "Don't know." I ask her to notify a supervisor. I am told, "I can't do anything about that." So I ask "What should I do?" She repeats... "Wait for it... I can't do anything about that." So I say, "Listen carefully, what should I do, not you." So I get the email for the web support people to tell them about their error. This company wants customers to notify other departments about errors vs. fixing it themselves.
So I send out an email and 3 weeks later... my account still says PAST DUE PREMIUM with a BIG EXCLAMATION POINT. On to the service. When you call AHS they are given 2 business days to contact a company to fix your broken appliance. Once the contractor gets their notice, they have 3 business days to contact you. Once you are contacted, there can be several more days (3-5 for me) to schedule an appointment. Do you see what I am pointing out? Each time I called about my AC not working, I fail to get a call from the contractor. I check my online account and see the contractor has been (unable to contact customer).
Now I have a cell phone like everybody else and they all have a log of calls missed or received, just all possible calls. No calls attempted to my phone. So I call AHS and they cheerfully tell me they will call the contractor. I say, "You can try, but they don't answer phones. Not even to take new business. I tried." Who do they hire for contractors? I think the business that can't retain a customer base. I really do.
The first time Total Air Care came out the guy found burnt out wiring, a bad valve, and bad capacitor. He replaced the wiring and a capacitor. That was good for about two days of using the AC. Called again and same company comes out, new technician and this guy says I am low on coolant. Hmmm never happened before. He adds a pound and leaves. No leak test just puts it in there. Third time same company comes out - a different technician says the unit is totally out of coolant. Can't fix now, will have to come back later. I never heard from them until I called AHS a few times because one call just won't do it.
This review is getting long, but here is the important point. I HAVE HAD NO WORKING AC SINCE APRIL AND NOW IT IS THE HEART OF SUMMER HERE IN Florida. How does a company manage to do this? Easy. If calling in results in a 25-minute hold. If contractors won't fix your appliance properly, what can you do? The customer had no leverage. All you can do is call and cry or leave a bad review on sites like this.
GO LOOK AT THE AHS FACEBOOK PAGE BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR SERVICE. Let me run some numbers for you... $50 a month for service from AHS, $75 for any service call. Forget that $45 they put there, you will never get that. Every call will be $75. They will pay the first $10 for every pound of freon for AC repair - you will pay $65 for every pound. They will get your stuff fixed unless... it is something that commonly breaks. Your fridge icemaker? NO. Your knob on the washer? NO. The clock on your stove? NO. You see? They make a profit on this - on your money.
I wish I had a positive review to leave here. Wish I could say they helped me out. I feel like I need to notify people about the truth. Go read some of the reviews here... Reviews where the customer didn't get their stuff fixed but leaves 5 stars anyway. Reviews where stuff wasn't covered but 5 stars review??? Review where I sat on hold for x minutes but 5-star review??? I will be happy to revise this review when I am not sitting in a puddle of my own sweat. Ball is in your court AHS.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 5 years. I have utilized them about 6 times. Pay close attention to your contract because there a several things that are not covered. Recently I had a problem with my air conditioner unit. They sent a technician out who gave me a receipt indicating what was wrong with the unit. AHS sent another technician who added several things that needed to be fixed that the first technician did not find. Well, the second technician said that AHS said I had to pay them another $75.00. I was on the hold for approximately 45 minutes before I spoke with a customer service representative to get that taken care of. The second technician came out and AHS told me I had to pay $700 out of pocket because there were items that were not covered by my contract.
The technicians came out (3) and stated that the fan they installed broke and they had to contact American Home Shield but I had to pay the $700 but they did not even finish the work. My unit has been running for more than a week which means my electricity bill is going to be outrageous. Whatever they did caused my temperature control not to work so I can't turn the unit off. After almost a week without any communication I called AHS to be told that they had a new diagnostic. It's no telling how much more out of pocket I will have to pay. I called them and asked about the company because I didn't feel they were trustworthy. AHS will not listen to any complaints you give them concerning who they send out. It's going to be you against AHS and whoever the technicians are.
The time before this, I called because my oven was taking a long to reach the preset temperature. I called the technician came out and said I needed a new heating element. This was about 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. The technician replaced the heating element and my stove would not come on at all. After calling them several time, AHS ordered me a new stove a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I would not recommend them. You would be better off to put $51.99 a month in a household account and when something breaks down go to your account. I think that is what I am going to start doing.

I had left the door open to where the water heater is and he went ahead and diagnosed it. By the time I arrived, he knew exactly what was going on and what the repair was. Then he replaced what needs to be replaced and then protect it so that no more water could get in. He explained things well and made me feel comfortable. And I have been with AHS since 2000. In Georgetown, it's been a not such good experience. I waited six months for something to be done with the refrigerator, incompetent technicians, etc. Now it's been almost two months and the washer is still non-functional, for the same reason. The company not answering, messages being sent by AHS and they not responding, not getting back with reports to AHS, etc. Otherwise my experience with AHS has been fabulous.

When you pay for something it's appropriate that you should get what is agreed upon. We have not. Reported problems with our AC unit on or about June 15th. It's July 5th and we STILL don't have the issue fixed. We've been on hold with them multiple times for over 40 minutes - HOLD (all the while listening to a recording tell us that our call is valuable to them. Sure doesn't seem so). They've told us on more than one occasion that the service tech AHS subbed the work to hadn't done the appropriate paperwork.
All the while we have copies of said paperwork that magically appeared on their computers once we told them we had copies. It's a world class run-around if you need service for anything. Any time we actually ARE able to connect with these people, we are put on perma-hold again. IF they have service metrics, it's clear they don't pay attention to them. They are a monumental waste of time. Also - be VERY careful if you EVER decide to sign up for service. Read the small print. You'll find that, on most new agreements, they DON'T cover replacement costs for some of the more expensive items in your home.
Hello Andy, I apologize for the inconvenience of this matter. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that our customers may have. Thanks^DB

With my most recent claim to American Home Shield, I called and got someone to talk to me. The technician came and worked on the sump pump, but he didn’t fix it. That was a bad experience.

I filed a claim about the heat in the water with American Home Shield and it was handled very well. I did it online and it went like clockwork. The contractor was terrific and I was very happy.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield went good, but we've had a lot of negative experience with them. I tried to submit a claim over the phone before but they told me immediately I had to do an email. It aggravated me because with email, there's a response, “You have no other recourse. Goodbye.” That was the end of it. I never got the opportunity to speak to somebody. Our big issue has been with the plumbing side of the house where we have a leak and we have to turn the water off in our house. It takes them five days to get a plumber out and it cost me about $800 out of my pocket because I couldn’t wait and my family did not have water in the house. I put in a couple of claims against it saying I didn't think that was fair, and they told me, “Too bad because you went out of policy.” I'm like, “But I went out of policy because you didn’t expedite the problem that we had, which was a leak in our home.”
I wish that American Home Shield would have been a little more understanding of my family’s situation. One of the things that bothered me was their customer service rep after they told me on the phone, “You should’ve gotten a hotel.” I go, “That’s unfair for you to say that to me because getting a hotel would've cost me money.” So all the more I've been angry about it that I want my money back, but I can't do anything because they keep throwing the contract to my face saying, “Too bad.” I felt like I had no rights as a customer. I sell software, so for me, everything’s about customer satisfaction. Also, my wife’s a realtor and she’s afraid to recommend AHS as a product for her people that are buying homes because she doesn’t want them to be treated like garbage and then have them call her and go, “What the hell did you recommend me to?”

I had a problem with our oven and it was easy submitting the claim with American Home Shield. The contractor came when he said he was going to come and didn't make a mess. The oven has been fine since.

Our washer wasn’t spinning down. During the spin cycle, it would stop and there would be lots of water still in the washer. I called American Home Shield a few times to have someone come out and the techs came, ordered a part and replaced it, but the problem wasn’t resolved. They had to come back out and look at it again, order a different part and finally, the problem was resolved. Plus the dryer had to be totally replaced and it took me two months. I couldn’t understand why it took so long to get things done. Most of the technicians were on time except at one point when the technicians were supposed to come between 8:00 and 12:00, but they came at 3:00 while I was at the school getting the kids. But the guys hooked up the dryer and were very nice and easy-going. They came and did what they had to do.

I contacted American Home Shield for an HVAC issue. The technician they sent came on time and was very knowledgeable and courteous. He went above the scope to check and make sure we had what we needed and did more than what we were really looking for. The two most recent experiences we had with AHS have been very positive. They were able to achieve all the results that we were expecting, and I’m very pleased.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield started off on April 29th then it was finally resolved about June 6th. Trying to get through on the phone was almost impossible. I couldn’t get through on the internet as well because they didn’t recognize me, but yet I get an email from them all the time, so I have no clue why. I finally got straightened out and it turned out to be a defective part they put in. They got five different washers out of the washing machine and then it went down again with the same problem.
The first contractor that was out was a total idiot and I was very disappointed. There was one day that he didn’t show up. The other time he was supposed to be in the 4-hour time zone, and he came about two minutes left at 7:00 o’clock at night. Then they had another contractor come out because the original one was away on some family business. I could never get the first one to come out, it was impossible. But we finally got him here and he came.
And this all happens over holidays or weekends, so it just drags on. A new one came out and he diagnosed the problem as the same thing. It was just replaced. Then I finally got notification from American Home Shield that the part is obsolete and they’re gonna replace the washing machine. I had a young lady on the phone and she was fabulous. I would never have that if it wasn’t for her. I reported this all by phone verbally to American Home Shield and let them know how I felt. I've been pleased with them in the past, however, this last experience was terrible.
