I submitted a claim for my shower to AHS. I did an upgrade, they fixed it, and everything went well. The contractor explained to me what was wrong and what had to be done. They got it okayed and ordered the parts. Then they came back and did the job.

I am very dissatisfied with a recent service call I placed approximately 3 weeks ago. I had to reach out to the contractor that was assigned the work order. I had to call back in before he came for the first time. He came this week and made the issue with the AC worse than it was before he came. I paid him the service call fee as well as the additional $200 for the refrigerant. Before he came, the unit would run but the air would not cool. Now the unit will not come on at all. I texted and called him about 30 minutes to an hour after he left on Wednesday. Today is Friday and my AC has still not been repaired. I called in yesterday stayed on hold for almost an hour, called back this morning was promised a return call from the representative but never received one. Called back again, escalated to several supervisors with the same outcome... no AC. It definitely is not a feel good. This is only my second service call and I have had an issue both times.
Hi Iris, I am sorry to hear about this. I will be in touch with you soon to assist. Thanks ^CW

When my policy was sold to me, I was told that everything that needed coverage was proper and adequate. I was not asked relevant questions as to what was not covered. I was advised that my HVAC is covered. Even now on the website, the coverage does not go over the details independently. When I was sold the policy I should have been advised that a straight a/c was not covered and only a forced air furnace is covered under this home warranty policy.
As a layman how am I supposed to make the difference in their policy coverages if that is not even brought up during the sign up of the home warranty policy? I believe this is a deliberate attempt on the part of the company to make a client purchase a policy that is sold as being adequate in terms of the coverage, the client is told that the HVAC is covered as part of the other appliances in the policy. When the need comes for the claim to be made as in my case it happened after a year and a half of having had this policy. The first claim after I had this policy after a year and a half. Then American Home Shield decided to go into the nitty gritty and starts to dissect the policy and says that the straight a/c is not covered and only forced air units are covered.
I had mentioned all this to them at the time of buying the policy but at that time they failed to go into the details of the policy but when it came time, they were very happy to deny the claim because they did not want to cover it. This is a very old bait and switch tactic employed by this company as evidenced by the numerous complaints on doing some online searches. I would like to know why this was not informed to me earlier. And if this is the case then I would like a refund of all my monies paid so far, if they are unable to add this coverage and amend the policy to cover all items in the household.

I had a water closet and kitchen sink issue. The contractor was very pleasant and respectful. Every time he would say he'd do the work, he would do it before that time and would do a very good job. However, I've been having issue submitting a claim online for about a year now. I'm unable to log into my account. If I have a problem, I call to get it done. Other than that, I recommend American Home Shield.

I placed a service request with AHS for hot water heater and stoppage issues. They assigned the vendor, QUALITY PLUMBING SOLUTIONS LLC-PENSACOLA, with an Email: QUALITYPLUMBINGSOLUTIONS@AOL.COM and Phone: (800) 579-2611. I did not receive a call from the vendor at around the 24hr mark to schedule so I contacted them. Upon contacting them on (Wed), I was told the soonest available appointment was the following Monday 13th June 2016. I asked what timeframe, I was informed I would receive a call on Friday with a window. After hanging up with him I call AHS to asked if they could provide a list of Plumbers they contract with so I could call and see if someone could come out sooner.
The representative Sophie informed me she had to call the vendor and see if they could get me a sooner appointment. I told her I didn't ask for Monday and if they had a sooner appointment it should have been offered to me. I pay my dues faithfully every month and I didn't understand why I could be given another vendor. It was not fair to my tenants to wait until Monday. I asked to speak with her supervisor. I was put on hold for 25 minutes, she then came back to the phone and said she would have to take down my information and a supervisor will be calling me. I asked for the supervisor's name she said she didn't know, I replied "you don't know your supervisor". She said it wasn't her supervisor but a team of supervisor and she wasn't sure who would be calling. I have yet to receive a callback from AHS.

I started using American Home Shield as I was convinced by a friend of mine that the company is one of the best home warranties. I have had 3 claims during those times and pretty satisfied with the service and the technicians that came to my house to check up on the issues I have had. However, on 06/4/2016, I submitted an online request due to nonworking AC Unit downstairs. I was given a working order number & of course had to wait for the AC company (AM Air Corp) that I was assigned to. I live in Las Vegas and imagine the temperature we have here. I had to call the AC company the following day as I haven't received a call from them. I was given an appointment for Tuesday, 6/7/2016. The technician that came to check on the issue spent at least 10 minutes and told my husband that it was a faulty NV Energy thermostat.
He didn't even check the furnace in the attic to validate that it was not the AC unit itself that's causing the problem but was so quick to say that it was the thermostat & that they cannot touch the unit since it was installed by NV Energy. I called NV energy and explained the situation to them & a technician came to my house on 06/8/2016 to see if the thermostat is really faulty. He checked everything and even swapped the face plate of the thermostat between the upstairs and the downstairs. The face plate worked on the 2nd floor unit which means the thermostat was not the issue here. He then asked us if the technician from the AC company checked the furnace in the attic. I told him he didn't do that. The technician from NV energy noticed that the 'Cool' button has been flashing & explained to me that the AC technician should have looked and checked the furnace.
It dawned on me that it was 109 degrees that day and the AC technician just didn't want to spend time in the attic due to extreme weather however, he signed up for that job and should have been prepared for any circumstances that involve his job description. Now I'm back to calling AHS to relay to them that it was not the thermostat that was the issue here. I called AHS at least 4 times on 06/8/2016 and was on hold for over 26 minutes each time. I finally got ahold of a live person after 4 attempts. I spoke with Ashton and explained the above situation to her. I was advised that she's going to contact the AC company (AM Air) to recall the order and that the wait time is 48 hours. I asked her if she can expedite it since my 79-year-old mother lives with me. She just told me to wait for the call and if the company does not call them within the said time frame for me to initiate the call. Of course that's what I'm going to do as I've done in the past.
I usually am a very patient person but this has been a very frustrating scenario. It would have been a different story if my mom does not live with me. In the meantime, I'm waiting for them to call me. My contract is going to expire next month and I'm debating if I would renew it. I guess I was expecting this company to be more passionate or at least try to be more customer service oriented.

Wait times to talk with anyone can be well over an hour. Tried the live chat, estimated wait time at start was 8 minutes, 47 minutes later the chat started. The chat had long delays in response. Chat lasted 35 minutes and I learned absolutely nothing about my claim. I will say this. Once you get someone they are very courteous and try to help. They usually do not have all of the information needed and tell you someone will call back. That is typically 24 hours later. I am very frustrated as it is taking almost two weeks to get my AC repaired due to the delays from AHS and the scheduling from the contractor.

We received AHS warranty along with our home purchase. I wonder what state these people with good reviews live in because NJ is not providing satisfaction. We were told how great this type of warranty is if you have a problem because you get prompt service. The first contractor could do a date 7 days out. We tried for a new contractor and have not heard back going on two days. There is not an easy way to contact this company, and the email we did manage to send has continued to go unanswered. To say we are disappointed and frustrated would be an understatement. My husband is even considering making up a song and posting it on youtube.

Affordable Heating & Air through American Home Shield came out to fix the air conditioning unit. The first time, the contractor seemed to be a quiet young man but the second time, he seemed to have been mad because he just came to the door and didn't even speak. He just looked at the thermostat and then went on outside. He wasn't ready to talk for a bit when I asked him. 90% of the time he was on the telephone with somebody so he wasn't very responsive. When he got ready to leave, he said, "You have to sign this." I looked at it and I said, "You have on here nothing was wrong." What he was saying was he didn't do anything. I asked him what was wrong with it before he wrote out his report. He said a wire had gone bad so I said, "I don't see anything on here about a wire that you have replaced." And so he didn't say anything. So I said, "I'm sorry. I can't sign this until you write in your report what you actually did to the unit."
I thought he was going to his car to write it up and bring it back in. He left my door open. I was back in the back part of the house. I thought he was out there still but he had gone. A robber could have come in to rob. I never heard from Affordable Heating anymore. I called but I wasn't able to speak to the supervisor, so I left a message that the young man wasn't very friendly when I asked him to write up what he had done to the unit. But the air conditioner is working now. The house is cool but I'd say about three years, three summers, whatever's wrong with it is not properly fixed. It's patched up because it works about two weeks and then it cuts off. But usually when it cuts off, if I let it stay off for about 24 hours, it'll come back on. But the last time, when the man came out last Friday, I had to call because I had tried two nights to get it to come back on but it wouldn't come back on.
The motor would run but the fan wouldn't move so it wouldn't cool the house and so I wasn't pleased with that service at all. And also when they came to fix the air conditioner something happened to my hot water heater. I know it's independent from the air but I had to call them back because the hot water heater, which is inside the house, makes a strange sound every time the air conditioner comes on. The company needs to improve. American Home Shield really needs to get better service people. I pay almost $62 a month and then I have to pay $100 for them to come out here. I expect better service than I'm getting.

This is a horrible, fraudulent company. We have a home warranty that covers our water heater. We have had issues with the water heater for months and have had to take work off on several occasions for an American Home Shield contractor to assess the problem. We've had to take multiple days off of work for this, and over several months of not having hot water and having intermittent hot water, the problem is not fixed. American Home Shield has refused to replace the water heater saying that it works because it provides hot water. However, every contractor who comes admits the hot water is short lived and intermittent. That is NOT a working water heater, it is not functioning properly. We get almost zero hot water in kitchen so have to wash our dishes in cold water. We take cold showers, which switch to scalding, burning hot with no warning, before again turning cold. We have no option to wash our clothes with warm water.
This is NOT a functioning water heater as American Home Shield claims it is. We have taken a total of 5 days off work dealing with this, and we have called several times to discuss this matter, however each time we are placed on hold for >20-30 minutes until it disconnects. Or today, a rep Rasheylin hung up on me when I asked to speak to a manager. We are wasting our valuable time on this issue. Our water heater needs to be replaced immediately.

I have had American Home Shield since July of last year when I moved into my new home. I was excited to have the peace of mind of a warranty, but it has not turned out to be a good experience. Shortly after I moved in the central air would not work. The company they insisted I use was very unprofessional. They came numerous times, were very rude both on the phone and in person and I was very uncomfortable with them in my home. They never did fix the central air and then winter came. Now it is summer again and the central air still does not work. I put in a new order, paid a new $75.00 charge and the company came out and again did nothing to fix the problem. They told me it was a clogged air filter, but the air filter was not even on the furnace because the last company took it off!!!
I have tried numerous times to get this worked out through American Home Shield but with no luck!!! I paid to have another company come out and they state the furnace needs to be replaced and possibly the air conditioner, but American Home Shield would not even give any thought to the second opinion. They refused to send out another company of their choice and I have been very dissatisfied. I also had an electrical problem and they sent the same guy who said he was the furnace expert! When I asked about his certifications he just kept repeating he had 30 years of experience... no certifications or training in either area! I would stay away from American Home Shield. I put in a complaint (first ever for me) to the Better Business Bureau and they had a lot of complaints.

I am writing this review in the hopes that a GM or someone with some pull can help expedite the shipping of the parts needed to replace my AC. On Monday, AHS called to say that they've authorized a new compressor and Evaporation Coil (Hurray!) but that I need to pay for permits and some sort of system testing to the tune of $1010 (Big Bummer). It's 115 degrees and this unit heats 2 bedrooms, the family room, dining room and kitchen so it's miserable. I called AHS today to see if the parts will arrive soon and I was told they are due to arrive on the 14th, 8 days after I was told they authorized the work. I am shocked by the slow shipping, especially because the temperature is 115 degrees.

Had two service issues re the washer and the dishwasher. The contractor sent was not from my area. They showed up 1 hour late and did not contact me to confirm schedule - I initiated each follow-up phone call. It has taken 3 weeks and the problem is not resolved. The contractor has requested that I remove the dryer (appliance is stackable) because they only have 1 technician in my area and they cannot remove the dryer from on top of the washing machine. Second contractor arrived to service the dishwasher, recommended a replacement - again no follow-up from AHS and nothing in writing from the contractor. Very dissatisfied with level of response and project management from AHS and the service provider. Also extremely long waits to speak with a customer service representative.

Like the other reviews, American Home Shield (AHS) provides timely repairs to items covered. BUT their service fails when a covered item cannot be repaired and must be replaced. The contract provides for replacement of equipment of similar features, capacity and efficiency. The choice is not the consumer's but AHS's, and if you don't like their choice you are offered a dollar amount that is their cost from the manufacturer.
Here's my experience: my heavy duty Whirlpool clothes washer from the early 1900's froze up and could not be repaired. AHS offered a GE washer as replacement or $431.04. My wife researched this model and found that it had poor reviews and multiple consumer complaints. Instead she found a Speed Queen washer that had similar features, capacity and efficiency, was rated very well, and had high consumer satisfaction. So we bought the low-end model Speed Queen for $922.52 (tax included) and submitted the invoice to AHS. They would not pay more than the $431.04 for the GE offered washer. I've been with AHS almost since the day they were formed back in the 1990's, and now I'm wondering just what I am I paying $58/month for.

I had a faucet that was leaking and my initial call was for the dishwasher. An appliance repairman came out and said it wasn’t the dishwasher, it was a hose to the faucet. So I called Home Shield back and they were nice there. They said that they would send out a plumber. We live in a brand-new home. The plumber said he could fix it. It’s a Moen, a brand of sprayer for the kitchen. He said Moen has a lifetime warranty so he suggested that we just go to the builder and Moen will pay for it because of the lifetime warranty. The second plumber said he could replace it, but Moen might as well pay for it to have it replaced. So that’s exactly what we did. Both the guys that came out were very knowledgeable.
I didn’t have a problem with Home Shield at all because it only cost me the one co-pay. When I called the second time to Home Shield, they said, “We won’t charge you the second co-pay for the plumber,” and I appreciate the plumber telling me that it was under warranty. I didn’t know that Moen had a lifetime warranty on their faucets. The builder didn’t have a problem with it. They had the faucets right here and just came over and replaced it and it went very well. We've recommended AHS before and would still recommend them to anybody. We’ve had them on our first home and used it several times there. When we bought this one, we got them on this home, too.

Our water heater stopped working late in April. It was determined that a replacement would be needed. We got the initial approval from AHS on May 9 and was told part was ordered and that we would hear from the contracted company once they receive the part. One week later I called to follow up when it would be installed but then was told that the part hadn't been ordered all along and that it was escalated to management for approval. We went through the process again, provided all the information they asked for, followed up every day and on May 20, got another email that says it has been approved and the vendor will be ordering the part. Contractor initially called to schedule the installation for May 25th, then rescheduled for May 31st, and now I can only get weekly updates from them. Vendor told me part was back-ordered.
Today is June 7, I called the vendor at 1 pm to see if they have an update. I was told no, it was still on back-order and the next update will be on Monday next week. I call AHS soon after that to ask for assistance in getting this "backorder" moving and maybe talk about other options. The operator said that the vendor already ordered the part and that there's nothing we can do other than wait. I ask how long am I expected to wait, and was told as long as it takes because another part cannot be ordered in its place and that "THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE". I called AHS again at 6 pm to ask what brand water heater they were ordering and was told that it was never ordered in the first place, and that it was again put on hold.
Whoever is deciding to put previously approved claims on hold has not been communicating this to anybody. It is very frustrating as I am losing a lot of time waiting for a part that I am told has been ordered only to find out it has not been. We have resorted to cold showers or boiling water on the stove then transferring it to bathroom. Anyone who has a small child can attest to how scary and dangerous that can be. The customer service line has been a mixed bag. Some are very helpful while some need a lot of convincing to check into all the details of this case. History of conversations are all over the place. I asked to be escalated but am always told there's no one else who can help. I don't know what else to do. I am trying to work with this company but feel like I am not getting anywhere.

Purchased a Home Warranty 6 months ago, today was the first time we needed to request a repair for our A/C. I called (it's an hour wait to speak to a rep) - finally got through & the rep says they have NO vendors available for repairs! Mind you it's 112 degrees here in AZ, so I ask when they will have someone available & she tells me they have no idea! Could be more than 5 days' wait! I explain we are in a dire situation under extreme heat & we need help, she says she can authorize me to call someone on my own but there is a laundry list of requirement & I'd better get a pen ready because if I miss one thing they will not reimburse me.
She says there are 9 companies I cannot use & provides the list of those. She says the repairman I choose MUST call with a complete diagnosis & price before they will authorize the repair & I will have to foot the entire bill & submit for a reimbursement later. When the repairman arrives we try for an hour again to get through to a representative, when we finally do they inform us that there is no one available to authorize any repairs! They have failed us in coverage & in a very unethical way! We had no choice but to pay the entire repair ourselves and it's been explained to us that without the authorization code (which you can't get from them anyway) we cannot receive reimbursement!

American Home Shield has repaired plumbing a couple of times and my AC unit. They've also replaced an oven and refrigerator. Their reps are very responsive. I’ve had a couple of instances when we had to go back and forth when the oven was replaced because there was a difference in definition and understanding as far as code enforcement was concerned. My house was built back in the 80’s and the coding is different now. We had a conflict whether they will pay for it or I will but other than that the service has been excellent. A couple of vendors did some things that I didn’t agree with but AHS also corrected that.

The service paired me up with a company I had already requested to never work with again. They told me that they would not be able to come out for 2-3 weeks!! This is Arizona. That is unacceptable. (I have the voicemail if you would like to listen to it where they state they would not come out for 2-3 weeks!) This company is Green Valley Heating and Cooling. The last time they came to my house was in September and their repairman was very unprofessional and rude. I would suggest you look into this company and you discontinue your service contract with them.
I called on Sunday to speak with someone from American Home Shield to try to find a different company to work with and I was on hold for 40 minutes to be transferred to someone and they were unable to find a different company for me. They said they would put me back in queue... and I did NOT receive a phone call from another company today. I am VERY disappointment in American Home Shield. I will be researching other companies for my home warranty. Please make this right. I have since contacted another AC company on my own and they quickly and promptly came out and fixed my AC... However this was no thanks to your company. Again very frustrating.

We’ve had American Home Shield for 10 years and we’ve only had one bad experience - that was when we were trying to get our refrigerator last year fixed, and we couldn’t find anybody in the area that could come fix it. It took four weeks to even get somebody out here and to even figure out that somebody can come out here. We went to Sears instead. AHS gave us authorization because they couldn’t find anybody. It was COD so I had to pay cash for the whole deal which wasn’t supposed to happen. It's supposed to be just deposit. But AHS did reimburse us right away - within two weeks. Since then, we had a different refrigerator go out again and that was no issue.
My most recent claim was for my air conditioner. I made the appointment online and the guy called me within an hour. He came over within four days and did the work. It was great. Plus, the contractor was pleasant. He was very professional, knowledgeable and very considerate and made sure he got the job done. It was just one time that it was horrible with AHS. All the repairs of the contractors they've sent have been 100%. I’ve not had to have anybody come back to re-fix whatever it was that went wrong. AHS is really a good value for the money.

We were very happy and have had no further issues since. One other thing I would like to point out is that he never tried to sell us anything. All in all, if we ever had another issue with our AC, I wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

I have been a faithful AHS customer for over 15 years, sometimes with multiple homes enrolled. It has plummeted downhill. Dishwasher issue. Called service, sent company, needed part, waited 2 weeks, brought part, didn't work, ordered another part, brought part didn't work. Manager of Tavernese Repair came, said needs to be replaced. Lied and told AHS needs more parts. Have been without dishwasher for over 2 months. Repair service men dirty. Lie, no credibility at all. AHS called over 5 times. There IS NO SUPERVISOR.
Have left multiple messages for supervisor to call. No calls. Have ask for new vendor. No one can "authorize that". So if someone comes to your house, does horrible service, lies to you, AHS could care less. You have to keep allowing them back in your house. THE WORST COMPANY. There are many out there and they are all much more price competitive. AHS shamefully has become the worst. On the phone as we speak for over an hour, and no one can do anything, and supervisor will not call. AVOID THEM AT ALL COST.

I tried their chat service as well but they ask me to call the phone number where no one picks even after an hour of hold.

Frustrated with the process to request service. May 30, 2016 an online request was made for a leaking gas hot water heater. I received an email with confirmation on the dispatch number and service provider. The Service Provider, Hers and His Plumbing never called me to schedule the service and so I called them several days later only to be placed on their schedule a week from the original request. On the day of the service I was notified that the plumber was ill and the service would have to be rescheduled! After waiting a week for a repair to be made I find this unacceptable. When calling American Home Shield you wait and wait 20 or more minutes to get through to someone only to reach a voice recording. Very frustrated.

I have two accounts with AHS - one on a house outside Fort Hood which I own and then on a rental house in El Paso where I live. They didn't do rental property when I moved here in El Paso. I told them that I wanted to keep them but I was moving on a rental property. They changed the policy and now do rental properties.
Most of the time, I submit a claim online. AHS send me an email with the confirmation number, they contact whoever the contractor is and then tell me who will it be. Every time there's an electrical issue in my house outside Fort Hood, AHS would contact the same contractor which I'm not happy with. I have renters in my house and if they don't get asked for the money, they don't remember to pay it and I get stuck with another bill. It's the same thing every time with Big Bob's Electrical. But 90% of AHS' contractors do a good job of taking care of my properties. Every time we get somebody in, whether I like the contractor or not, the contractor does a good job. I recommend AHS all the time. It's a great company.

I had a plumbing problem with my toilet. At the first repair, it wasn’t complete and the contractor said to call him back again. I called back another time for another person to come out and the next person, again, tried to fix it but was unsuccessful. I was lucky the third time because it worked out. Occasionally, I still have the same little problem, but I figured maybe it's because I don’t use that bathroom often. What happens is that the water tends to have a flow during the night. It's very rare that it happens now so I was happy enough with the service in the end.
The contractors were very professional. Ever since we signed up with American Home Shield, I've been very happy and have recommended them to my neighbors. People are friendly and normally the response is very efficient and fast. The service is usually taken care of in a very timely manner. It's always been a pleasant experience and we're always very satisfied.

Bad experience with this company. I insured two homes with this company for over 2 years. When I really had a problem, the insurance is of no help. I had to spend from my pocket. First time, I called for a water leakage as the house flooded with water damaging everything including floor and walls. Immediately, I placed a call with the company. They allotted a service provider and he never call me or when I called none responded. I had to call a private contractor to find the issue and fix it. The damage caused due to this delay was more than $13,000. Thanks to my insurance company Safeco. They are covering the costs and the repairs are yet to finish.
Meanwhile, the second time I called for issue with air-conditioner last Thursday. It is 100 degrees and I need someone come and look into the issue. The contractor they assigned gave a schedule after 5, 6 days. Called the company for an early service, had an hour on phone asking for supervisor to talk to me. No, it didn't happen. After long conversation rep said that the supervisor will call me back and hung up. It never happened. Now, I have two options. Either fry in the heat till they come and fix it or engage another private contractor by paying from pocket. I pity the customer service rep who answered my call for my outburst. Poor girl, what she can do? It seems to be that these companies are only for collecting the insurance premium. When they are not helpful when we need most, why do we have this insurance? I am surprised that this company is #1 in the list.

I called the insurance company so many times complaining about the issue at no avail. I called the pool man several times and he is not taking any action to rectify the issue. He collected his co-pay, but left no invoice or receipt. For an entire week I have been calling the insurance ranging from 7:30 AM, mid-day, evening and as late as 10:00 pm and I would be placed on a waiting list for over one hour, and until I get frustrated and will hung up. What kind of a customer service is this? No one to answer the calls, they promise to take action, but no results. After waiting more than 5 days for the vendor to come for a service call, he spent 10 minutes at my home, declared it fixed and left. Three hours later, it broke again. After many many long waits to try to reach an AHS service person on the phone, I finally got a recall set up. First available was 5 days later (going on 11 days with no air conditioning now). Then, two days before the service, AHS cancelled the service call with no notice, claiming that it is a "maintenance issue" and not covered. I've been on hold for almost an hour now. There's no way all of these positive reviews are real. Just some general things first: at least 1 hour to get anyone on the phone or livechat; Customer is never right at this company; whatever you think is covered, is really not. Maybe 10% of the cost is. Now the more specific experience I had. They dispatched an AC company to fix a problem I had. I paid the $100 deductible and also for freon (AHS only covers $10/lb when Freon is close to $100/lb). That company needed to comeback in order to finish fixing the AC. In that time frame, AHS stopped working with them and dispatched a new AC company instead.
AHS now made me pay another deductible and had to pay for Freon again, even though my problem was never fixed. They kept saying that the first company said the job is complete even though I have written proof in emails and receipts saying that the problem is not fixed and they need to come back. AHS could care less about common sense or doing what's right.

There was a $75 co-pay so we gave him the check when he was done, he thanked us and went off. It was that simple – painless and effortless. However, about two summers ago, we used AHS on a home central air problem and that was a nightmare. But that was the only time we were very dissatisfied with the contractor and the service. The contractor couldn't quite understand why snaking my drain where the kitchen sink is happened to cause my toilet to flush better, but he snaked it anyway and it worked. He also made some recommendations and was very cordial and nice. Then I gave the co-payment to him and that's the end of it.
However, when I recommended American Home Shield to my daughter in her home, she was disappointed because they had a newer home and had problems with the air conditioning, and they weren't able to pay as much as she thought they would pay for the whole service. I called to get service and was given a contractor who would not be able to come out until Tuesday 5/31/2016 due to the holiday weekend. When the guy from American Team did come out, he took one look at my thermostat, told me how much he hated that brand of thermostat and that was my problem. He looked briefly at the basement part of my AC system and did even go outside to look at the compressor. Told me that he would check back with me later to give the smart thermostat a chance to charge. He did not check back, he closed the call as completed without fixing anything.
I called AHS back and they re-opened the call and when I called American Team, they refused to schedule me before Tuesday 6/7/2016. I tried American Home Shield again to complain, they transferred me to a different company that could not come out until Monday 6/6/2016. This was unacceptable so I called again and was given to a 3rd contractor that I was assured would be able to come out by Friday 6/3/2016. When I finally reached that contractor the next day, he told me that he couldn't come out until Wednesday 6/8/2016.
I called American to complain again. I was told I could not be transferred to another contractor and that I would just have to wait. When I requested to speak to a manager, I was told that there was not one available and I would have to wait 24-48 hours to speak with a manager. This is the worse service I've ever had. This is unacceptable. No one has offered to refund the original $100 service fee, no is taking steps to make sure this is being corrected. I will be complaining to everyone I possible because of shoddy service, shoddy contractors. I have never been treated so badly. I want my money back, I want my AC fixed and I want American Home Shield to make this right. The customer service department at American Home Shield is a huge back hole. Major problems with AHS - buyer beware! We have been paying for a warranty with AHS for 6 years now. The first time we have had a major issue we are experiencing that they will deny the claim for a covered item with any bogus reason possible. Our AC went out the day before yesterday. We called AHS who sent out a technician from a company called AMA AIR CORP (AHS.AMAAIR@AOL.COM). The technician who came out was Dimitri. He told us that the compressor was out and that with the age of the unit that was normal for it to go out after so long. He would reach out to AHS and try and get it fixed ASAP. Then AHS told us that they were not going to cover the service as the technician reported to them that the compressor had failed due to missing parts.
We tried to get ahold of the technician but couldn't so we called AMA directly. They told us that the AHS made the determination on their own and all they did was send pictures to them. We called back to ask for the picture so we could show someone else and they said that the pictures had been deleted. We then called AHS back and the customer service agent said that they didn't have any pictures but she couldn't give us anything via email as to the reason of denial and also refused to allow for our conversation to be recorded so we could get the stories straight.
When I asked if we could get a second opinion. She offered to send another company called Air Squad out. We are waiting for them to come out and are not sure what to do next. This has left a really bad taste. We have paid all along believing we were covered in an emergency like this. The first time we have a major issue it feels like we are being lied to and tricked into a denial. We have paid them over $4,800 in fees over the last few years which not seems like a waste.
Hello Deepak, I am sorry to hear about this experience and I understand the frustration! The option that you have is a second opinion which I am glad to hear that you are getting that done. I paid $75.00 for that service call in addition to the $57.33 cents monthly since purchasing this contract. The service man said that he had to order parts and it would take a week or so to come in. I called after 2 weeks and was told the parts were not in yet. It is now the 2nd of June of 2016 and I still cannot use my dishwasher.
This is over 2 months...I have made several online attempts to contact this company and have still no resolution. I asked to cancel the new year contract but I wanted a refund for the repair that I had already paid for and had not been completed and was told they would not refund. The most recent claim we submitted with American Home Shield was for our garbage disposal. It had a penny caught in it. AHS gave it to a company and the company came out and was able to repair it and it went fine. However, the claim with my microwave was another subject. My husband emailed them and the company that came out was Sears. Many parts that were being ordered are retail. American Home Shield doesn't pay retail and I know that. The first parts that he ordered were $800 and the microwave costs about $350 and so then we had to wait for two weeks for the parts. When the technician came and put the parts in that were mailed to the house, it still didn't make the microwave work. But he had to have those parts to be able to know that this other part was not working right. When he found that it wasn't working, they told him he had to go ahead and order the other part so that meant another two weeks we had to wait.
So this is a month and so they finally decided since it still didn't work right, I can go ahead and get a replacement. So following week, we immediately went and got the replacement and we're waiting for the check for the refund. It was frustrating to be without the microwave for over a month. This guy had them replace it because of how many parts we have to have. That was before the big part was ordered and they said no. So my husband called and spoke with them and what the man who was representing the company said was, "Well, you know, we have to make money too." But we've never had a problem with American Home Shield until the microwave problem because out of the seven years we've had them they've been very quick. They've been great. Overall, we've had a good experience with them.

But American Home Shield provided a way for me to get that handled and I appreciate them for bringing the plumbers back over because they needed to understand better what the problem was. Afterwards, a completely different company came in for the demolition, they fixed and dried everything out. Then a third company did the repairs. Filing the claim was easy because we just called them, they figured out what we needed and we paid $100 to the person who came over to fix it. They did a very good job. Called back on the 1st, after a 55 minute wait an agent picked up only to tell me that they had no explanation of why Sears did not show up and that it would be another 10 days before Sears could rescheduled. I informed them that was not acceptable and they said it would be tomorrow morning before they could confirm any other service company. AHS is not off to a good start.

I hadn’t cleaned out my husband’s pants pockets well enough and there was a penny that went through the washing machine. It blocked the drain. So I filed a claim to AHS through its automated system. It was a very easy process. So far, the contractors that AHS had sent out were really good. They came when they said they were going to come. They knew exactly what had happened and fixed it. The contractor sucked the penny out of the washing machine. He was wonderful, young and still full of energy. Overall, AHS was fast and efficient.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for many years and I’m satisfied with their product. Our recent claim to them was a plumbing issue in the master bathroom. I called American Home Shield and all their reps were quite knowledgeable, helpful and very polite. They put a request in for the plumber and the plumber called me. They came, were good and polite, and did what they could. It took them six visits in order for the leak to be found, but I was glad that it was found and there is no leak now.

Having a home warranty has saved us money many times over the years. We have always had AHS as our warranty company. The customer service has never been fantastic, but today has hit an all time low. I called yesterday and had to place my request by a computerized phone system due to high call volume. Then the company they were using for me never called.
After 30 minutes on hold this morning I finally got a very impolite person to speak with who could not help at all. I asked to speak with a supervisor, they never called. Then I got an email saying that my request had been resolved when no technician had even been to my house. Then, after a 50 minute wait time on hold, another impolite person told me that they were experiencing this and assured me the tech. would be here tomorrow. I'm not holding my breath. So I called the a.c.company and left a message with them and I'm crossing my fingers while I look into a new warranty company.

I purchased my home on 5/17/2016. An American Home Shield contract was purchased. I had to call them almost immediately, as the toilet was running constantly (plumber), the new washing machine I purchased could not turn on because the electrical outlet was not functioning (electric). The refrigerator/ice maker was not working at all (appliance repair). The electric and plumbing was taken care of quickly, but the refrigerator still does not work. The refrigerator repair was Nelson Aggregate (Apple Appliance) and they have come to look at it.
AHS approved them to purchase the parts and fix it. The refrigerator is about 11 years old, and they no longer make that part, but they do sell a part that is comparable. Apple Appliance, the repair company, claim that the part is backordered, and they will let me know when it comes in. Back order to me, means they don't have it, and they don't know when it will come in. I was able to locate the part through Sears ** and it is in stock. I wrote an email to Apple Appliance and they ignored my question about backordered parts.
I wrote and email to AHS, and they have not responded to me. I am puzzled as to what I am going to do. I have been without a refrigerator for 2 weeks. I have 2 kids here, 6 months and 2 years old. I can't go out and buy a refrigerator right now. I just finished a chat with AHS and they claim that the repair company can only order parts through AHS approved supplier. The suppliers don't have it, but Sears does. This makes no sense to me.

Vendor came out and within 10 sec contacts me and says this is not covered under warranty. I will let you know I paid for the best shield complete plan and a 75.00 service callout. I had to pay the service callout plus paid for the original policy. I believe that with both the AHS and the vendor they should have determined that it was not warrantied. The vendor should have never came out and charged me 75.00 to do absolutely nothing. I ended up replacing this myself for a total of 90.00 and feel that AHS and this vendor owe me the 75.00 I paid to the vendor that would have know just by my description that it was not warranty. Watch out. This also could be a scam to get customer to pay for something they know they will not cover!

The first visit was May of 2015. By December 2015 I had a new system and it didn't work. I had no heat in Pa in December, temps in the teens. Finally on the 4th or 5th trip he had the heat working but wired it wrong and my heat only works in the emergency setting. Now come June 1, 2016. I have no AC. I contacted the company and Christina told me there is NOTHING they will do. I had 60 days from the last of the 5 repairs to call. I was supposed to know in February that my AC didn't work? Money-wise, it wasn’t in my budget at one time, but it was great to be able to come back and it’s still the same. It’s very easy to sign up with them. I can call if I have any problems and they solve what I need done right away. If I have any questions, they answer everything that I need to know. They recently had to repair my air conditioner, and the claim was very easy to submit. A couple of times I did it over the phone and then once, I did it online. They had to come back out three times because the people that were repairing it didn’t get it repaired, so I had to call them back. They were all friendly, nice and helpful. As long as they didn’t charge me for every time they came back, we were good. Excellent company.

I filed a claim for the garage opener to American Home Shield. I did it over the phone, and they were very nice and cordial. They gave me a particular contractor who would come out and do the repair. The first guy who came said that he did not have the particular part in stock and had to order it. It would be another week. Someone would call me and tell me when it was in and they'd come out and service it. The second person who came acted like he didn't know about that and asked what was wrong with the garage. I didn't appreciate that, but he went on and repaired the garage opener. It's working fine now. The guy told me that a rubber thing that helps pull the door up and down like a wheel is eventually going to snap or break, and American Home Shield doesn't cover it.
What I don't like about the AHS is that if it's not broken, they don't fix it. When I heard my refrigerator making a whole bunch of noise, I finally said to them, "I'm going to your CEO." I had cacophony over and all this stuff. If I'm having problems with the item, they still should repair it. Because they're getting the money straight out of my account, they should honor and listen to what the customer is saying as a problem to be determined. Even if they had a board, they have to go through it. Everything is put in little, fine writing and they know the customer is not reading that. They should be able to take into consideration there are certain circumstances where they should approve a claim. If they want to send somebody out to see if a customer is telling the truth, they should do so. With what I went through for that year, I was very angry. I was really considering dropping AHS 'cause I've been with them for a while.

I recently had a terrible experience with American Home Shield. I put in a service request on Sunday the 22nd of May. The first company they sent out was nothing but a scam. I invite you to take a look at their reviews on Yelp. The name was Royal AC out of Houston Texas. I have a 2 month old son at home and the company tried to use that as sales technique to get me to overpay for a new AC unit. They said "You want to do right by your family and by going with us we can get the unit in the next day." They wanted to charge $10,000 for an AC replacement. They also told me that if they replaced just the inside unit that was broken and pumped it back full of freon it would cost $2000 in freon, which is absurd. It was Wednesday by the time they were able to come out.
The next day I spent doing my research on ACs and how much they should cost and found that there is no way it should cost anywhere near $10k to replace. I then contacted AHS and they let me know my options and explained to me what a cash out option was. I was very interested in that being that this company had just tried to scam me and I was not interested in paying that much.
At that point they had not received anything from the first company. They then said they would request the diagnostic. Being that the first company was extremely shady they sent in a diagnostic that was incomplete. It basically said it could possible be repaired or replaced, but they weren't sure. When AHS asked them to go back on and diagnose it they refused. Then AHS had to put in another service call with another company. They did this without calling me to explain what was going on. I get an email saying that a service call has been set up so I call them immediately. Of course I go look and the reviews on this company are equally as bad.
I told AHS that I didn't understand why another estimate was needed and they told me what had happened. The lady on the phone was able to find another company that could come out over the holiday weekend. I was still very frustrated because all of this could have been avoided by sending the correct company in the first place or even doing research on the vendors you are sending out.
The new company came out and sure enough they said that the evaporator coil is leaking and that it needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, they still have not sent their diagnostic to AHS and so AHS will not doing anything. I am now sitting here 9 days from when I initially sent in the request without AC with a 2 month old infant and wife at home that are confined to one room that has a window unit AC in it that I went out and purchased.
I live in Texas where in May it gets over 90 degrees. I am fed up with this company and could not be more unhappy with the service they have provided up to date. I currently believe that a Home Warranty with this company is not worth anything. I could have saved that money and put it towards a new AC unit. I currently have a company that is willing to do the work and is just waiting for me to give them go ahead. But until I get a true diagnostic I do not want to have them start or else my home warranty really was just worthless. At this point I think I'm about to chalk it up to that, and just have it fixed on my own dime.

We finally get an appointment for tech to come to house on Friday. He doesn't do anything and says we need to test for leaks. Ok, why aren't you doing so??? Of course he wanted his $75 fee. I call back to the office to find out why I have to make another appointment. I leave a message on Friday. Never hear back. Today I go into my account to see that my ticket has been "completed." They encourage these companies to "band-aid" the solution. My AC went on the blink during a hot summer day. AHS response, "We will send someone out in three days" (they said time frame is well within their policy --- forget the fact the consumer sweating to death). This is the nature of AHS. The cost charged by AHS to come out is about $125. The cost charged by the actual company coming out is $99. AHS is another company designed to charge for protection and not pay up when the item fails.

I've had American Home Shield for years and am sorry to say that it's time for a change after this last experience with them. Around April 21, 2016 a technician came out to my house to repair a refrigerator. He told me that the company had to order the part and it would take 5 days and they would come back to install it. More than a week passed so I called back. American Home Shield said that the service company could not find the part so they left it for American Home Shield to order the part. 3 to 4 weeks passed and no one has called me to tell me what's going on. When I called them back they seemed hesitant to talk to me and seemed unsure as to what was going on. I was told that the part was lost and I was told that I am suppose to call back to talk to the parts department about this problem.
Meanwhile I'm stuck with a refrigerator that is barely working, my food is kept over a family member's house, paying out of pocket for fast food and my last resort is just buying a new refrigerator when I can afford one. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone! They are truly going down and are unprofessional. I'm half-thrilled, half not happy with American Home Shield. I had three items that needed to be repaired. One, I called for a plumber because I had a problem with the toilet and the hot water heater, and that was wonderful. They had him out here fast and he did a topnotch job. We just paid our co-pay. There was no bickering about trying to get out of it cheap which was very impressive.
The other one was an electrical issue and AHS contacted us back and said they couldn't find an electrician in the area. We'd have to hire one ourselves and then go through this whole thing of while the electrician is here, talk to the authorization department. I couldn't find an electrician who would do that, so we still have the same problem. We're 70 miles outside Boston. I have an electrical problem I can't get fixed and I know they have electricians. Instead, after three days, they just left us swinging.
AHS has better coverage than anybody else because I looked at a lot of them, which gives me confidence to be with them. They also cover things like corrosion and if a contractor does something wrong but you hired the contractor, they cover it. However, I wish that AHS would give a senior citizen's discount because the warranty is expensive. We can pick from three different deductibles which affects how much you pay a month, but right now, I have the higher deductible. If they would offer me even a 5%, I'd probably go to the more expensive brand, and they'd make more money that way. AHS should also offer an add-on where people could purchase additional coverage, like the outside fixtures and septic tanks. Some providers offer them. People that have septic tanks are willing to pay a lot to ensure them.

He also said, “Well, your American Home Shield won't cover your air conditioner if you haven't had it serviced, and we've got an air conditioner servicing that we do twice a year.” I then said, “I called you out here to fix a problem with my plumbing. I didn’t call you out here to sell me service on my air conditioner.” I was a little put off by that. He was here to fix a leak in the faucet in the vanity in the bathroom. I was not thinking about my air conditioner. I planned on extending AHS on into the future, but at the same point in time, I'm wondering how much of what the first service guy told me is true - was he only trying to sell me an air conditioner service or will my air conditioner be covered if it quits.

I spoke to a representative of AHS about my air conditioner and they called and made the appointment and they took care of it. I was out of town and someone was there that worked with the contractor and they didn't give me any negative feedback. Since the repair of the air conditioner, it's working better than it was before. I've been an American Home Shield customer for 13 years now and they've always come through. They've taken care of everything. They either repaired it or put in a new one. I recommend them to everybody that I meet.

Request for water leak repair took 2 months and unreturned calls from the selected contractor's initial visit on the pretense that parts were ordered. One was never received and no explanation was given. A second request to AHS was placed since they (AHS) were aware of the outstanding issue through repeated complaint calls. Sears contractor was sent and they expeditious had the job done within a half an hour, gave guidance on usage. Still pissed at the initial contractor because having been with AHS for 3 years, this is the first bad taste of service output, others had been professional and knowledgeable.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my water softener. Their online system is easy and their emails kept me informed too. The contractors were satisfactory and they followed up so everything worked out well. They're out of the area so, scheduling-wise, I tried to get them at the first of the day or the last of the day. Because of where they're located and where their work schedule is, they couldn't accommodate that, but they did work on a compromise for it. I would recommend AHS.

The most recent claim I submitted to American Home Shield was about our dishwasher that was making lot of noise. We called them and they sent out Sears repairman. Sears investigated the problem and found out that our dishwasher was 20 years old and it did not have replacement parts. So AHS gave us choices of dishwashing machines, we picked one, and they sent it out to us. The assistance they provided to us was fairly timely. I had a very good experience and I've even recommended my son to AHS.

They set repair appointments during the normal work schedule and we people that work all day are not available at the time. I need to wait for them to tell me which tech is coming to the house and then it's according to their hours, not to when we need them or when we're available, so it was really tough and I had to cancel it because I needed to be at work on that day. Since I cannot wait and I need my washer, I've gotten the issue resolved and I paid my own. But I like the way their techs know what they're doing. It's just the timing when they're available and we need them. It's still a good service and I will recommend them to anybody.

I've had American Home Shield for many years, but these last few times, it's been very bad. The problem isn't with the people who come to the house, but with American Home Shield. They get the paperwork so screwed up. I have two houses with their warranty and I think they've taken too much and can't follow through. Also, the wait time on the phone is terrible nowadays. The last time I had a claim, I had the bill paid and the check cleared, but they said I haven't paid it, so I had to pay it twice. I just got the check back a week ago, but that took a month.
I have talked to Connie who seems to be a team leader. She's a very nice lady and I do not know what I would do without her. I'm so lucky she gave me her email address and phone number. If it hadn't been for Connie, whom I had to get in touch with regarding a refrigerator in my house in California, it would have been a nightmare. I had to go out and buy ACs myself. I got reimbursed for it. But I used to just call AHS, then somebody would come to either fix or replace the appliance, and that was the end of it.
In fact, we were ready to go on a trip, and I called AHS because my washing machine wasn't working, and the guy called me back. It was night and he said, "If you're gonna be home, I'll come and check it right now." But that was about seven years ago. It's not been that way. If I were a young person, I wouldn't continue with this home warranty. But I'm an old lady and I have to have help. I have two homes that need to be taken care of, and this is an easy way out for me.
It's bad enough to have something wrong without having the added hassle. It's terrible for people to have to go through this. I was angry and disappointed. They need to look into their follow-through and to their employees. Everybody is really nice and gushy on the phone, but I don't think they follow through with the claim. I used to recommend them all the time because I was absolutely delighted with their service, but with what's happened to me these last two years, I wouldn't recommend them anymore.

I've been pleased with the experience, by and large. I went with a different organization to save a few dollars on my Florida home, but I found that they were much harder to deal with than AHS. If I'll get a warranty on that home again, I would go back to AHS. They charge a premium, but I'd rather not have the hassle. It's expensive but good.

American Home Shield is usually dependable but has hiccups. They've gotten more and more impersonal and impossible as they've gotten bigger. It used to be they'd get to me faster. It now has become more difficult because it used to be easier to get to a live human. They added in the automated system which made it harder. That impacted me because I've had four service calls in the last two weeks because I have new renters in my property.
The first round of service calls weren't so hard. My renters came in and they determined that they felt the disposal wasn't working so I paid $100 for that. The disposal got replaced the next day. They also said the dishwasher was leaking and there was a problem. The contractor came out and worked on it. But the third service call was the difficult one because it was a Sunday afternoon when my renters called and told me they broke the outside faucet. The water was gushing everywhere. I'm out of town with no internet access and a sketchy cellphone service where I was at, so I told them where the water cut-off is and I will get AHS going.
I got on the line and I literally sat on the automated system for over 28 minutes waiting for an associate. When I got someone, they just said hello and hung up. I called back and I gave him another 15-20 minutes. My renters won't have water if I don't do something. They won't have toilets, showers, etc., so I ended up texting, "Find me another plumber that will take credit card over the phone because I'm out of town." I had to submit a claim to AHS to see if they will reimburse me because I had to pay $260 instead of the usual $100 copay.
It was hard to get someone to work on it. I had to wait for the human. I was waiting to hear and not every vendor called me back within 24 hours. I always had to follow up if they got my work order. I don't blame that on AHS. It's mostly likely on the system. They should offer a better communication because the last plumbing firm said that they did take credit cards. But when the plumber was done with the stoppage, he said he doesn't take credit cards over the phone. I told him I will call AHS and pay them because then they will pay him. It's a nice function that we can pay the copay that way. But I haven't even heard back from their claims department. I faxed them the bill on Monday. I even gave a screenshot off my phone as to how long I was on hold. There was not one word back.
AHS has gotten too big for their britches. They know that they're the best game in town, and the copays are slowly going up. I've been with them back when copay was only $60, close to 10 years ago. Now, it's $100. Mostly anything else I get was good service, but these last couple of things that I had to call has been grating on my nerves. Even if I had gotten through them, would they have given me emergency service on that Sunday? I could never get a human. I now have three naval aviators depending on stuff. They don't need to be not being able to go squared away to work the next day because of something happening at the house.

I've had AHS for many years and when I first got it, it was fine. But now, they're getting places that are inferior. They've changed contractors. These contractors are very lousy, most of them. The last contractor I had, Platinum, didn't know what they were doing. So far, I have to have them come out several times to get something done and they wanted to charge me. Plus they've gone up on their deductible. They did away with the deductible last time because I threatened to leave them because they sent the guy out twice and he didn't know what he was doing and they did not do what they were supposed to do. So they finally sent someone else out and they did it.
Right now I’m in the process because whatever he did messed up something of mine and I know I’ve got to pay another deductible for them to come out and correct it. And the other thing I don’t like was about my dispenser. I had one replaced. I’ve had the first dispenser when I moved in. I’ve had it for about seven years before I had a problem. I called them and they came out. And I had a very good dispenser, but they told me they couldn’t put in what I had. They had to put in something of a cheaper product because that’s what they were supposed to do. I went on and let them put it in. One year and one month later, it went out which they had a year’s guarantee on it. So I had to call them back out to do it all over again. But when they came out this time, they told me they couldn’t. The first time they said they had to get what they told me to give me something else.
But then this time they tell me, “We have to put in what’s already there.” Well, why didn’t you tell me that when you put the first one in? It’s just minor things that they’ve taken out of their contract that wasn’t there because they might have to pay for it like they did have in the insurance thing. I had a water heater that had to be replaced and the code upgrades were in their policy. But when this law that everybody has got to do this upgrade, they immediately took it out of their contract, so I had to pay $400. Things like that have really irritated me. And I have been looking for someone else. I went on and renewed it this year, but I’m going to see how it goes. Right now, my heater is not working. I don’t know whether it’s because when they put a new pump inside on that last one where the people didn’t know and they sent somebody out and they did put a new pump in.
Also, I don’t know if they hooked it up right because I turn my heat off in the winter time for my pool. Yesterday I turned it on because of holiday and it didn’t work. Its lights came on. It’s not a battery issue. I don’t know what the issue is but it didn’t come on. So I’m going to have to call them back out here. I told my pool guy to look at it and see if it’s just something minor to come back out and I got to pay another deductible. They used to be okay but now they’re going to the least amount of money they can spend. This is frustrating. There are dates that they're going to come or wait and wait. By the time they got here on one when they were testing the pool thing in the first place, it’s been so long so by the time they came, it works again and when they left it’s not working.
The companies that they dealt with knew what they were doing and they were right on time. Everything was taken care of. I understand going to a lesser product because as a matter of fact all insurance companies are doing that. As long as it meets the criteria of what I had, that’s what they replace it with. But for them to tell me that they couldn’t replace it with what I already had one year and then one year later telling me they have to replace it with what I have, that doesn’t make sense to me. I’m very disappointed. I used to love everything. When they sent people out, they sent people out that knew what they were doing and they don’t have to come out. Only one time somebody had to come out twice and that was on our refrigerator, but they did fix it. It wasn’t that much. But they had done beautiful work. It was cool.

I have been an American Home Shield Customer for several years and at several properties, and they've gone downhill. During this latest stint with AHS, I've had three problems and none of them have been fixed properly. First, I had a dryer stop working. A tech came out and saw it not working, so I paid the $75 copay, and they were supposed to call AHS and order parts. After a couple of weeks, AHS sent out another company who was going to find out what part was needed. In the meantime the dryer started working again, as the problem is intermittent, and the 2nd company didn't repair anything. Totally waste of my money for nothing but hassle.
Second experience was with the house furnace. The blower wouldn't come on. The company came out, saw the problem, and told me that "I" had to move a beam so that they could get to the part. I took out the beam and they replaced the part, BUT they unplugged the whole house air purifier that was attached to the other side of the unit in the attic and didn't plug it back in when they made their repair, I need to go back up and plug-in the filter again.
Now my water tank thermostat stopped working on a Wednesday. I submitted a service call request. Long story short, they could only come out the next Monday, which means that's when I'm supposed to pay the $75. Then the repair company submits a request to AHS to be covered, once they get the ok, they can order the part and then come out and repair my hot water tank, which could be next Wednesday at the earliest. This is hot water service! We depend on it every day, and not having it is an emergency. AHS' only comment was, "Sorry about your luck." I called a repair person on a Friday for myself, and they are scheduled to come on a Saturday (tomorrow) with the required part to fix my problem. I'm done with AHS! They need to take into account that there are emergencies, and fix those promptly.

Our AC unit did not produce cool air. We went to AHS website to create Service Call. The service was assigned to Piedmont Mechanical Contractor. We were very happy Piedmont called back within 2 hours and gave us appointment same day. The technician showed up within the time window given. He found out the AC unit for upstairs was covered with ice. He shut the unit down and told us the unit would need 12-hr for the ice melted and he will come back the next day. We were given another appointment the next day between 10-3 pm. We waited till 3 pm and no one showed up. We called Piedmont office and was told the technician was late but he sure would be at our home around 3-4 pm. We were happy with that.
The technician finally showed up at 4 pm. Upon checked up both AC units, he told us the AC need more freon. However the AC units were 17-yr old, he told us the freon R-22 was discontinued. Piedmont will charge $90/lb. AHS only covers $10/lb that leave us pay extra $80/lb on top of $75 service call. Total bill for the service will be $240 + $75 = $315. We were shocked with the new cost since the previous service call, other contractor charged us $30/lb. We promptly phoned AHS to complain about the new charge but told that AHS does not have control over the contractor's charges.
Since facing with the Memorial long weekend and with inside temperature at 85F degree, we have no choice but approve for the work. We feel AHS dropped the ball here. We believe that there are many homeowners out there still have old AC units. AHS could negotiate costs that would put ceiling on how much AHS allow their contractors charge customers. We later phoned another local contractor who provided AC services. They gave us estimates over the phone. They would charge $60/lb that covers everything. Total costs for similar service would be $60x3 = $180 versus $315 for AHS. With this new cost structure, we don't feel any savings by going with AHS. We will not renew our contract when the current one expired.

A couple of years ago after reading this site and others' rankings of American Home Shield, I signed up. The first time I used it for a water heater replacement and a dishwasher replacement I was very happy with the service and they replaced the water heater and dishwasher with a comparable unit. Overall I felt it was a good deal. However, after not using the service for some time, then calling to have work done on a faucet that was broken I have had the worst experience I have ever had with any company. The first plumber took a week to come out, then told me that AHS would not replace the faucet with a comparable faucet but instead a "builder's grade faucet". I said fine, and scheduled the follow-up visit. Stayed home from work, they said they would show up between noon and 4pm, but after I called them at 3:30pm they said they would have to reschedule for the next day. The next day exact same situation happened. Stayed home, no show.
I called AHS and asked for a different plumber to be assigned. They agreed, and I tried to work with the second plumber to schedule a visit, could never get them to show up. Then AHS tried to double bill me. After being on hold for 30 minutes, they assured me they would correct. On to my third plumber, over a month now. They showed up at 6pm, 2 hours after they should have been there. Then they made a mistake, flooded my bathroom, dripped down to the ceiling below. They said their manager would call back, but no response. Also, the faucet was probably a $10 plastic faucet. Not sure why they wouldn't replace with the same type of faucet ($139 at Lowe's for kitchen faucet). The next day there was still a slow leak. I ended up going out and buying a new faucet and installing myself. After 3 failed plumbers I have no confidence that they can provide good service.
Not sure why they will spend $1,000 on a water heater replacement but fail miserably at a relatively cheap faucet replacement. During this entire process AHS customer service was terrible. They would never call me. They would just suggest I check back with them in a few days to see the next steps. I literally called them about 10 different times during this process, each time being on hold for 30 minutes then waiting for the rep to read the growing list of notes. I have just filed a claim with the BBB. Maybe that will improve their response, but I have decided to take my monthly payment and put it into a savings account and I think I will be money ahead in the future.
Think twice before signing up with AHS. They only currently have a B rating on the BBB site and many complaints. And the plumbers did tell me they are one of the better warranty companies. I am not convinced Home Warranty companies are a good deal in the long run. If AHS will remedy the situation, I will update this post. Stay tuned, but don't hold your breath.
Hi Brian, I am sorry to hear about this experience. I will be glad to look into the matter for you. I will be in touch with you soon. Thanks ^CW

My furnace went out and I had to pay $900 before they would do anything about it, which I thought was very unusual. And then later, the main office refunded $200 but I was charged $700 for a somewhat unrelated work. I'm not sure if they did $700 worth of work as they were here in just a few hours. But that's the problem I have with that one. I don't know what my contract reached regarding a furnace replacement. There was this other time when we had a plumbing problem and we didn't have the right parts, so they had to come back again. And then, we got charged the second time for the service call. I had to make a lot of calls to further get rid of that charge which one person didn't know anything about.

Recently our sewer pipe was clogged. My husband does the submission of claims to AHS and takes care of it all, so, it doesn't bother me at all. But he didn't complain about submitting a claim to AHS. He made the phone call and let them know what's going on to AHS. And then, the plumber called him and made an appointment and the plumber came out. My husband said everything seemed to go really well when the plumber came out. The guy got the work done and didn't make a mess. He was real polite.
The time before that, when we moved in, we turned the handle of our shower and the whole shower head came off from the wall. They sent a plumber out for that and that guy was a little weird. I was there at home and waiting for him and he showed up in an unmarked vehicle. He looked like a little disheveled and didn't look professional. I would have preferred him at least have the company on his truck or offered me a card so I know that he's actually a professional person, not just coming in to case the joint, but he got the shower fixed.
The electricity guy was really great. It looked like the caps of the wiring were not on and he was frustrated because the one who inspected the house didn't catch that. And so, he did a whole lot of work for us that he didn't really charge for. He went above and beyond and did a bunch of stuff for free. He was really nice and spent a lot of time in the attic that he didn't have to. Our experience with AHS was easy and worry-free. We also renewed for another three years with them.

We have had issues since we bought our house. Like many others before us we had to pay the flat rate of $75 to get the technicians out. I've paid well over $1500 in R-22 fill ups. Every summer we have to dump 4-5 lbs of R-22 into the machine. Which common sense tells me it is leaking. We have had several different technicians come out and assess the unit just to do minor band aid improvement that are only short term. Today 5/25/16 we had a technician come out and immediately point out the hole that is in the unit.
I'm sorry, but after 3 summers of the same problem we FINALLY found a technician that pointed out the problem and said we needed to have the entire system replaced. I was so happy, I have a pregnant wife at home and Minnesota summers are hot and humid. So he submits the claim to AHS and guess what they deny it. They were oh-so-cool with me paying the 675 every year and the 75 fee for every technician. But once they find out the unit is broken they say it happened outside of normal wear and tear. They have an opportunity to do the RIGHT thing. What is the point of having insurance if when it comes time to use it, they deny it and make you pay out of pocket.

I've had several calls previously with AHS throughout the last three years and they’ve always come out and repaired it. The most recent claim that I had with them was for a replacement of my air conditioning unit which went great. The contractor was very detailed, nice and courteous. He explained everything as far as what was being replaced and made sure that American Home Shield had contacted me to confirm the out-of-pocket cost. The contractors came on time and even though they had a lot of work to do, they were very thorough in explaining what they were doing. They were efficient and cleaned up before they left.

The most memorable claim I had with American Home Shield was last year when I had lots of problems with it with my air conditioner. This was summer time when the air conditioner quit working. I had the same contractor but that one quit responding to my calls or emails. I asked them to send somebody else and they said they would if I pay another $75 fee. I finally convinced the supervisor that they should send out another contractor without me having to pay another fee since the person they sent out was incapable. They finally did that and they told me they were going to do something. I said I'll try to schedule the work, but then they quit responding and wouldn't answer phone calls. That was probably eight to ten weeks that we were without air conditioning. None of the three contractors AHS sent had the same remedy for the problem. One of them even lied. They said they replaced the TXV, but they did not.
I'm in construction and I hired one of my own contractors to do the work on my air conditioner. It cost me about 400 bucks to fix it. I sent a certified letter to American Home Shield with my issues. I also sent pictures of what they claim to be the replaced TXV, which was actually the original one. I asked them to contact me to talk about it, but I never got a response from them for my claim.

I had explained to them that my wife has a sinus problem and if possible, I'd like to get it done as soon as possible. So, she told me to hold on a minute and then she came back and told me that she would have somebody out there to do it the same day. I have a five-year-old LG refrigerator and door mullion is broken. So created a service request and asked for the technician visit. So technician came home after 5 days and check the refrigerator and explained to me about the issue and told me that "As this is a normal wear and tear, most probably AHS would approve the request and send you the parts." He started discussing timelines on when I would be receiving the parts and when it can be replaced. Fast forward. Two days after, AHS called me today (05/25) and left a VM that the request was denied and it was not a normal wear and tear. So called them and asked them why it was denied. So the customer rep started giving the apologies but at the same time gave me an answer that they have a right to deny the request as per the contract. So I asked them what can be considered as normal wear and tear and list of parts that they would replace in the contract.
They mentioned to me that it was technician's input to them and after lot of conversations I was transferred to Retention dept. She said she can cancel the contract and will not give my money back. I asked her why. She cited the contract again. Then she offered that they would send another technician to come and inspect the same refrigerator and give their opinion. Why I should be wasting my time with another company and another technician when they have a standard policy of denying the claim if the repair is going to cost them more.
So this is what I am planning to do. I am going to contact Texas Attorney general's office and I am going to ask them to investigate all the dollar amount on all denied claims and I am positive with enough data mining on all of their denied claims, Attorney General's office would find certainly find some grounds to call AHS practices as "unfair trade practices." I will not rest until these folks answer someone. They cannot just hide behind their contract and fine prints. Please do not purchase the service from AHS instead you would be better off donating that money for a good cause. At least you wouldn't be spending another 100 bucks for technician's visit.

A week after moving into our new home, we suddenly found ourselves with no electric service in three of our bedrooms. Luckily we have a Home Warranty with American Home Shield (AHS) that covers our electric service. We called a representative at AHS and scheduled a service call for the following day at 12:30 in the afternoon. An electrical technician showed up the next day exactly at 12:30. He was neatly and professionally dressed, he introduced and identified himself, and then after asking us to explain what our issue was, he started working to find and solve the cause of our problem. It took him about an hour and half to finish and during that time he traced and checked all of the electrical lines in the house, repaired the problem and then took the time to explain what caused it.
I think what impressed me most about this service and the individual who came to our house was his professionalism, his demeanor, and his honesty. After writing a check for the $75 dollar service fee; which in itself was well worth and cheaper than what it would have cost me if I didn't have an AHS Warranty on my house, I offered the guy a cash tip for his efforts. Without skipping a beat he politely refuse the offer by saying, "No, no thank you, that is not necessary and I get paid very well for my work from American Home Shield." He could have easily take the money and left and it wouldn't have bothered me a bit because the service was excellent and my issue was resolved without any further incidence.
It's especially rare these days to get quick response, excellent service and honesty all in one package. The cost is affordable and worth it; especially considering the fees charged by a regular serviceman would be double what AHS charges per service call just for showing up at your door. I can easily recommend any homeowner to (AHS) for a home warranty policy. It saves time, money and worry; and you can't ask for more than that.

But if your appliance or any other the repair cost more than 500 or more they are trying to refuse and give you whole bunch of reasons to get away of it. So they don't have to repair for it. I learned a lesson. I pay them too much but they didn't service well if the cost repair is more than what you pay for them. They will service you well if your cost less than 200. Then you may think that is a good deal, but finally they will drip your money. I recommended don't use any home owner warranty. You pay them about average $57 or $60 per. You multiply 12 months is around $700 dollars right there. You can save this $700 in your pocket instead of deposit to their bank account. It is not worth to deal with this. NOT RECOMMENDED TO DEAL WITH HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE. BELIEVE IT.

I have had a policy with American Home Shield since 2005. When the policy was sold to me it was specifically stated that the policy would cover the well pump for our lawn watering system. The pump was replaced in September, 2006 and to the best of my knowledge, they paid for the replacement. The pump has gone bad again and now they are claiming that they only insure water pumps that are used for the home water supply. They also claim that they denied the claim in 2006. Our complaint is that they have been billing us for covering the water pump since day one of the policy. We have asked for a refund for all of the premiums we have paid on the water pump but they refuse to do so. By their own admission they have known since 2006 that they have been charging us for something that they do not cover. They say that we should have removed the water pump from the policy but we have no recollection of ever being told to do so.
Also, if they declined payment back in 2006 because they don't cover water pumps used for non-household water, why did they not stop charging a premium for that coverage? We had one other issue with them a few years ago when they declined to pay for service on our air conditioning service. We should have canceled then but did not. We will definitely cancel the policy now and will file a claim in small claims court.
Our discussion with them today was very unsatisfactory. They are definitely NOT customer oriented. The representative that we talked to claimed to not have a supervisor. She claimed repeatedly that she was as high in the company that we could get to discuss our issue. When asked for her name so we can attempt to talk to a more senior person she would only give us her first name - she refused to give us her last name. She also refused to talk to my significant other, who I asked to talk to her on my behalf, claiming that he is not on the policy. Really? I can't have someone else represent me? At one point they said I should have my attorney contact them. Really? Hire an attorney to talk to them? Their customer service sucks!! If you have to call them, have at least 10-20 minutes to get to a person. Maybe that should have been the first clue as to what kind of a company we're dealing with? VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Our most recent claim was on a dryer repair. It was the third time we called about it and it's still not done right, because all they had to do was replace the timer and so far they haven’t worked. My wife put in some clothes this morning at 6:00 when she left to go to work and they were still running at 8:00. To me that’s a fire hazard. I haven’t called them back on it this time. It doesn’t seem to be worth the money we’re paying for. I’ve paid $275 payments on that dryer and that gets old.
I also called them out twice on a downstairs commode leak because the ring on the commode totally needed to be leveled with the commode. They got it leveled and it’s sturdy but it still leaks a little in the back when we flush it. I haven’t called them back on that one either. Moreover, the other issues I called them to fix such as extra shower because the on-and-off handle was broken, I called them twice on that but it was my nephew who fixed it. The O-ring was cut. And so we went to Lowe’s and bought a small bag of O-rings and he put one on and fixed it. So basically I’m three repairs for three and none of them was done right from the get go.

When the contractor came out, he said it was dry and that maybe it still wasn’t leaking. So he punched a hole through it and ran a camera up there and looked around, but he probably wasn’t sure that Home Shield would pay for something like that. It wasn't wet so I said "forget about it and if it got wet again, I’d call back." He charged me $75 for that. But I reached back out to AHS and it would be covered if it happens again because nothing was done.
There was also one time when the part of the big fluorescent light in the kitchen wasn’t covered so I paid my $75, the contractor left and didn’t do anything, except we called the contractor back. I have had 2 unbelievable experiences with American Home Shield. Both horrible. I will highlight them. Current: I own a single family rental property. I pay $45 a month for "protection". I have a $100 deductible. Water heater began leaking. Clearly why you have a home warranty. AHS sent a company to replace. I was told that AHS only pays for the heater and replacement. The contractor said that there needed to be new fixtures put on and the total was $350 (plus the $100). My contract says: "5. WATER HEATERS - COVERED: All components and parts, including tankless water heaters and circulating pumps, except: NOT COVERED: Auxiliary holding or storage tanks, Noise Fuel storage tank and energy conservation unit."
I had to get it replaced as it is my obligation to keep my tenants safe and the home in working order. I called the contractor and they said that was ridiculous and I should ask for a concession on the $350. The contractor even called AHS to tell them they should concede. No concession. 3 weeks later after many calls, "customer service" called and asked how the service was. I laid into them of course and they said "if we conceded $250 and sent you a check, would you be satisfied?" I said yes. Never saw the check, no notes in their system.
Air conditioner wasn't cooling so I order a service check-up through AHS. The contractor came over and said it just need 5 lbs of refrigerant. I said "great, how much?" The going rate (I called around) is $80... AHS pays only $10. The service call was $75 so after my $100 deductible, AHS ends up paying $25. I paid $350 plus $100 plus $45 a month.
My concern: people go to them to be protected for excessive charges. Their website says "It's a one-year service agreement that covers the repair or replacement of many major home system components and appliances that typically breakdown over time due to normal wear and tear." This is a classic bait and switch. The contract was so complicated that the regular homeowner doesn't know what they are getting into. I am not a plumber, an HVAC tech, or an appliance expert. We rely on a warranty company to protect us. I DO NOT FEEL PROTECTED.
Over the past 6 years, $3340 in monthly fees, $200 in deductibles and $700 in additional "non-covered" cost. I have used them twice. I called them today and spent 30 minutes with them having them basically tell me that it is my fault for not reading the contract. I am not renewing with a home warranty company. CONSUMER BEWARE.

My washing machine had a problem with the agitator in January, so I filed a claim and they gave me the service provider right away. The service provider contacted me right away to make an appointment, but they took quite a bit of time in between. They got it on and it failed again in about 30 days. I was out of town and my mother-in-law was here with my husband who was recovering from the hospital. The service provider told her "it's just your power was off", so they reset the power and left. Whatever had used the power off at the first, it did again.
When I got home I called them and said they never really evaluated the washing machine. They just determined that we don’t know how to tell if the power is off. They came out again and determined it was a part problem. They ordered another part. After at least a week for the part to get in and another to get the service provider out, they put that part in and they were helpful.
Then a few weeks, it went out again. They took them again and ordered a motor because they think that’s the problem. I waited another week and it still hadn’t come in. I was frustrated, so I called American Home Shield because I hadn’t really been calling them and I've only been trying to work through the provider. I told them my challenge and then within an hour the provider called and said that the part would be in Wednesday and as soon as they could do was 1:00 to 6:00 on Thursday this week which I took. I still don’t have a washing machine that works. But American Home Shield was very nice. The lady listened to me and I explained to her that L.A. Appliance has been very nice.
With the responsiveness that American Home Shield has done in the period of time which I've contacted them or asked to help or participate, they have done a really good job. It will be interesting to see what happens if the washing machine isn't fixed because now we had a new motor and two new major parts. I'm hoping it's working now. Overall, I would recommend AHS.

I am so glad we have American Home Shield. The contractors we've used have been phenomenal, and they go above and beyond to explain what the issues are, what they're going to do to fix them, etc. They've literally saved us thousands of dollars in repairs, and are more than accommodating. They set up appointments that actually work with your schedule, and contact you within 24 hours to set it up after submitting your request. I couldn't be more pleased with American Home Shield.

I called American Home Shield when my washing machine stopped working. It was repaired quickly and the technician even gave me hints to maintain my washer to extend its life. I cannot say enough about how positive the experience was. I would encourage anyone with a home to invest in a policy with American Home Shield. I greatly appreciate when someone does what they have promised to do!! Thank you!! Thank you!!

On my most recent claim, AHS sent out a different technician and we had a lot of trouble getting it right. It's almost a new washer but it's a LG and it has new technology. The technician, Chris stayed with me and told me he knew he had it right. Whereas the other people that I’ve had would say, “Well, that’s all I’m going to do for you. I’ve tried to do it but it wasn’t spinning out.” Chris had to come back three different times but I didn't mind since he was working to fix the problem. He ended up replacing the computer board in it and the washer has worked great since then. He told me to call him back if anything happened. I'm very satisfied with AHS' service. It took a while but we got it right.
