I had a microwave repaired by AHS and submitting a claim for that was easy to do. The contractor was very amenable to my schedule and was nice when he was in my home. He did a good job and the microwave has been working fine ever since. It was a good experience. I had American Home Shield on another home before and it was a good experience too. I had other available home warranty companies, but I went with American Home Shield based on my prior experience with them.

We've only used AHS once and it went fine. We had a hot water leak, so we submitted a claim over the phone and it was easy. The technician was very professional. He said we needed a new water heater and then put one in. Since it went as well as it did, I decided to renew my policy.

I submitted a claim online to AHS and it was quick and painless. Later that day, the contractor called me and scheduled me for the following day because they were really booked. So I had to wait an extra day. The contractor was very smart and good at what he did but he wasn’t really a happy, people person but not angry either. He was able to find the problem and fix it within 30 minutes. Everything’s fantastic but overall, I am not pleased with the customer service of AHS. There was a problem I had last year where it took them six months with several emails/requests to fill a hole that they had cut to replace a pipe.

I recently purchased a home and was provided a Home Warranty. Had a water leak that was not covered. The plumber they sent out could not find the leak and after the bill got to $600, he suggested I needed another plumber with special equip. My 79 year old father in law and his 80 year old brother came out found the leak within an hour of the plumber leaving, had it fixed within another hour. The subpanel on the AC unit burned up which caused problems with AC, called for service. 2 days later AC guy calls for an appointment. In the time it took for him to call I discovered the subpanel was the problem. Electrical contractor has never called. I called them and asked if this was covered and he stated no. I am a Realtor who has referred 4 families to AHS over the past year. It is not worth it, nothing is covered. Not a good experience. I will not refer anyone to them.

My last AHS call was to request a different plumber. AHS kept calling the same company out and that contractor only showed up twice out of the four times I called. They didn't really fix the problem and AHS wants me to pay the $75 fee again to get a new one sent. Customer service isn't helpful so I typically use the automated claim submission but I called this time to make sure they didn't send the same contractor again. I've had AHS with other houses in the past, they have a good concept but poor execution.

Don't let AHS send Rite-A-Way Services Inc to your home or business if you have a service call. See their Yelp review... extremely low. A horrible company used by AHS. We have been loyal customers of AHS for over 20 years, but will likely cancel next renewal period. They are so slow to respond. Just spent 30 min on hold this morning then another 20 min (mostly additional hold time) to have them take steps to resolve our problem.

Buyer beware. Service level is horrible. AC system went down in June. Called to start a claim. Initial wait time was 25 minutes. Filed claim. Called to follow-up on the status of the contractor being assigned as I had not heard anything in 2 days. Again 25 minute wait (online chat option had a 32 minute posted wait). Meanwhile, I called a local contractor and they could visit the property the same day. Finally spoke with a rep. Shared my story. They said there was nothing they could do and that I had to let the process work. Called their contractor directly. They had available appointments a week out.

Finally has the inspection. There was a crack in the evaporator coil, which is covered. Contractor also submitted a non-claimable repair to replace the drain pan and all drain lines for $1,400 under the guise that it was not up to code. The system was replaced 3 years ago. Had the original company AC company come out and confirm it is to code and stated the home warranty contractors frequently try to up-sell service using that statement. Most consumers just pay and move on. Shared my research to AHS. They picked the contractor - it is their representative. AHS has no concern that their contractors were committing fraud.

When I asked them to intervene, they indicated they rely on their contractors claim. That is very poor service. Regardless of the outcome. Every phone call resulted in a 25-35 minute wait. The person that answer the call is not knowledgeable about the policy nor how to read and understand the work order results coming in from the field. They are poorly trained, rude and really lack any concern for the consumer.

The morning of Sunday June 5, 2016 the compressor on our air conditioner failed on what was to be a record heat day in Southern Arizona. After checking the obvious, breakers, fuses, I called AHS approximately 1:00 pm to file a repair order. An email was sent to me from AHS with name of contractor for the repair. Called the contractor and filed for a work order. No reply from them that Sunday. I called again Monday morning and later they called back with an appointment for Tuesday afternoon.

At the appointment they confirmed the compressor was bad needing replacement and they would get back to me after they contacted AHS for approval and they could have us fixed up by that Thursday, June 9th. I called on June 8th to confirm the approval from AHS had been received only to find that AHS would be ordering the new compressor and it would be the next week before it would arrive. I called AHS and was told it was a money saving deal for AHS. I received a call late afternoon Tuesday, June 14th from the contractor saying the compressor had arrived and they would be out Wednesday, June 15th for the install.

Ten days in record heat with ASH's money saving program plus $450.00 over the $75.00 for freon that AHS didn't care about supplying to save me their customer a few bucks. AHS has not call to see if the repair was completed successfully or not. After many years with AHS and my bad experiences over this last year my AHS contract was canceled June 16, 2016.

American Home Shield is not worth **. Our ac went out two weeks ago. Now we live in Louisiana and it is summer. The temperature is 98-100 with heat index of 118. They were called immediately. Yes the technician came out next day and said needed new unit. He said they needed his approval and would be three or four days. No word, we had to call only to learn the technician had lost the paperwork he was to send in. AHS said it would be another day or two. After raising Cain they said call our own technician, send it in and they would get it done. Two days later they say they did not agree with him and want second opinion. Another two days to come out, another day or two to order parts then reschedule to come out. We have pets that are dying in spite of several fans.

My daughter has been paying them for seven years and had them for about ten or fifteen before. My daughter is extremely upset so I call AHS. I get this gal who just keep repeating like recording that they don't agree. They are in Memphis, we are in Louisiana. I keep trying to get someone to speak to that won't act as recording but can't. This gal will not even listen to reason. Yes it became heated. Because she won't do anything to help. I told her I would report all this. And she was angry. A short while later I get a call from her (recognized the voice) and she says, "** you want your daughters ac fixed" (she speaking very low) and I say yes. She continues to say, "We will never fix your damn daughters ** AC **". I hung up of course after a few choice words. Don't waste your money for service like that.

I wish I could give negative stars to this business. I cannot imagine all of these positive reviews are true and accurate. The service person sent to my home twice for a different problem was incredibly condescending to me, and actually suggested I not tell my husband something was so easy to fix. I complained about this and verified my information for the third time. Last Thursday, 6/16/16, my dishwasher stopped draining. I called AHS and was told it was a long wait time. They offered a "new, state of the art, automated scheduling system." I accepted. I put in my information. No email was sent to me to verify service.

I called this Wednesday - the first date of service available for dishwasher repair - to verify my phone number and to ask which company was coming, what time, etc. Customer service rep Aleika verified my phone number, and responded Sears would be coming between 8 and 12. She stated the technician would call me when he left his previous job. 12 arrives and no technician. I see a note on my window stating the tech came at 10:40. I heard no knock or doorbell, and certainly never received a phone call. Called and spoke with customer service rep Kimberly. She apologized but said the next possible date was Friday. And the rep had the wrong phone number. That's why I never received a call - even after verifying with Aleika at 9 am that the correct number was on my account.

After venting my frustration for almost 3 hours - the minimum I have been on the phone with this business when I call is 1 hour - they waive the $100 service fee and tell me they will be there Friday. Kimberly puts me on hold to check that they can come at 8am on Friday. She comes back and says they can come thursday between 1 and 5. I tell her it has to be Friday morning because I have pick ups and errands for my 3 children. She says no problem, they will be there at 8am Friday morning. Guess what? I get home at 6:30 tonight and there is a note on my door saying the tech was here at 6:10pm.

I call A&E factory repair to find out what is going on, only to be treated like a hysterical female because they cannot come until the following Wednesday. They never had me down for Friday after all. I called AHS and was told they would try to find someone to come sooner than Wednesday. It's been a week. The last item I needed fixed - a garage door - took almost a week to get fixed too. Please know this company does not care about its customers and find another home warranty company that cares about customers that are spending hard earned money for countless hours on hold, hours of waiting for people to show up, and there is NEVER a supervisor to speak with. I think I will send an invoice for my time, and my husband's time to them. Nightmare company. Avoid!

I had a number for my contract and they didn’t recognize it so it took a little longer than I thought. I’m waiting for them to come as the appointment is for Friday. I had a problem with my kitchen sink faucet before and AHS sent out a contractor. I did the deductible, and they came back the next day with a new faucet but it was shiny silver instead of the corrugated silver which is what the rest of my kitchen look like. I'm stuck with it and would have to live with it but at least it works and it’s not leaking. But I like the fact that AHS replaced my refrigerator when they couldn’t fix it. I was really surprised at the outcome of my first claim with American Home Shield. I didn't know what was up there in the air conditioner or how it was installed. It was leaking and I could see dust coming through my vent. Their technician stated in his report that the ductwork should have been smaller than it should have been. It wasn't covered in my policy so I was upset in that situation because I thought they might have corrected it. But I disputed that with AHS because we had Comfort-Aire come out one time to do cleaning and to make sure everything was with the AC and they never said anything about the ductwork being undersized.

I asked to have somebody check the air conditioner again. AHS said it was okay but they added that if the technician would come and say the same thing, I would have to pay the technician $125 again. I didn't want to do that and I'm disappointed with my experience. Other than that, I had no problem with the way AHS set up the visit. They did good. But the problem was with who they contracted and sent out. I’m still staying with American Home Shield and I would recommend them.

We got a brand new dishwasher, and it’s working fine. Their reps are pleasant and reliable, and the contractor that was sent was very good. We’ve used them before. Two of the drains in my bathroom are broken. A piece broke off and fell way down into one of the drains while the other drain didn't sap water in the tub and my toilet was clogged. I did my claim to American Home Shield over the phone because I had more than one thing and I wanted to make sure they were handled. The first guy that they sent took him a day to get back to me which was annoying because this is a clogged toilet and I have five people in my house. I also didn't like the guy at all as he had an attitude. He didn't offer to take his shoes off my house and I have babies. That really got me upset that my house was dirtied up. American Home Shield called me back afterwards. They couldn't unclog my toilet and they couldn't fix my drains and that those weren't covered.

American Home Shield sent a second person out but I had to wait for three days before he came. And although he was super nice and I liked him a lot, he still couldn't fix anything. He said the same thing as the first guy, that it wasn't covered. There was some kind of valve outside where the toilet goes 'cause the house is older. There's no way to flush it out externally. American Home Shield said if I wanted to have it fixed, I'd have to pay for it myself. It sucked and I'm wondering why I'm sending all those money to American Home Shield. I can't believe I paid $75 plus what I'm paying annually to get nothing fixed. I lost money to them to tell me it wasn't covered when they should've told me that before. I'm thinking of cancelling American Home Shield.

A truly horrible company. There is no need to pay for a home warranty. AHS does not replace and will take weeks to fix an issue with the hopes that you get tired of dealing with their 30+ minute wait times on the phone and 72 business hour turnaround time. Their contractors damage homes and still get business leaving their paying clients out of pocket thousands of dollars. They sent them into my home. They should ensure they pay for the damages not just shrug their shoulders offering a fake apology and telling you to move on. They still want to send this lousy contractor UNITED AIR TEMP to our home. No thank you. Still recovering from the $8,000 in damages they caused the last time you sent them out.

Typical repairs take well over two weeks time. Their response time has increased to 5-7 business days. Forget about EVER speaking to a supervisor. They have 72 business hours to respond. HA. Still waiting since February. My advice. Don't waste your money and use the premium to pay for your repairs. You will be a lot happier.

I have had a HORRIBLE time dealing with "American Home Shield". I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL. I know most warranties want you to think they are saving you money, saving you from having to pay out of pocket, and they trick you into thinking this is the BEST, thing for you all the way around. Take it from me, don't do it. Don't go with American Home Shield. I have had nothing but trouble and the blame game with this warranty. OBVIOUSLY no one wants to pay for things, no one needs or wants any added expenses. We all understand that. My problem is, when you pay close to 1,000 for a policy, and then pay another fee every time they come to your house for service you think, you would be getting just that, GOOD QUALITY SERVICE. Well, so far, I can tell you through my experience with this warranty I have had nothing but issues and all you get in return is more issues.

Complaints only go through by email, under a complaint tab... So no, don't expect a real person to speak to you other than the phone techs setting up appointments. That's it, they are all you will ever speak to. When asked if you can speak to someone they tell you to go to their email and file a complaint... Seriously??? When they do send someone out, you never know what to expect. But I will tell you this, the customer is told more times than not "I'm sorry, that's not covered (even though it states it is on your policy)."

They will some way or another figure out a way that it's your fault, and not theirs and you will pay. Trust me, you will be paying big bucks. I have spent more money out of pocket by having this coverage than if I would just call a repair service myself. I do not, I repeat, I do not recommend wasting your time or hard earned money. Being a mom of 4 and a new homeowner, I thought definitely this was a great investment. Wrong, wrong, wrong!!! Please reconsider and save your hard earned money and look elsewhere.

I am now having to again get my things replaced or fixed by me, myself calling on another source to fix what should have taken less than the 12 days it's been taking me to get through with phone calls and dealing with people who obviously are trying to save them their money rather than the consumer/homeowner... I am now already paying more out of pocket under their so-called warranty and then I still get nailed with a $1,000 bill out of pocket today for the so-called service, poor time & quality of care this warranty has. One furious homeowner!!!

I've now lived in my home for 11 months so I'm sure you can imagine the surprise of a flooded first floor when we came home from being out of town for the Father's Day weekend. In a panic, I call our homeowner's insurance and American Home Shield to try to minimize damage and get us back to "living" in our home. It's unfortunate because I would actually say American Home Shield has made the entire damage/claim process WORSE than it would have been if I had just hired (and paid) for my own contractors and service.

My water heater burst sometime over the weekend, considering the damage our guess is last Friday. American Home Shield was able to get a plumber out to "assess" the damage on Monday (fine considering I did not call until Sunday). He came to my home, inspected and basically told me the situation was bad. There was water (yes- indeed there is) and I should have someone come remove all the water before he did anything. I told him the flood specialists were 30 minutes out and would be there shortly so he said good - he does not have a solution and would come back and left.

I've now spent several hours EACH day trying to get in contact with American Home Shield. Each person apologizes and then transfers me to the next "rep" only to sit on hold for another 40 minutes, transferred to another rep, and then mysteriously disconnected. I cannot have a non-authorized plumber come because they will not pay for it and I cannot afford to continue to wait for their 0 star horrible non-BBB reviewed plumber to show up (and charge me $75), maybe give me an accurate diagnosis, maybe not, and then leave again without ordering the parts I need to stop the flooding and begin repairs in my home.

If my microwave or oven went out I suppose I could afford their 1 week (and still counting) turn around for a diagnosis and god only knows how long for the parts and repairs. Considering my hot water tank had to be drained, I am living with NO water and we're a family of 4. It is just unrealistic and I can honestly say American Shield should be held accountable for failing on all accounts for their delivery so far. I will unfortunately need to check into a hotel tonight after 5 days of waiting to have water and with the weekend in sight it looks like I will need to scrap American Home Shield and pay for all my repairs (and their new fees for these garbage contractors) to have anything taken care of in an adequate timeline before I begin the massive renovations needed.

AHS have been working on my refrigerator since April. What happened was it wasn’t cooling in the refrigerator part. All the stuff in there was falling. They sent one company out and when the company worked on it, the top and the bottom were freezing. There weren’t icicles in there before, but now I have it hanging there. Everything inside is frozen – juice, milk, eggs, vegetables. I got to take everything from the freezer part and put it in an ice cooler until they finish fixing the refrigerator. I’ve had different contractors who came to work on it, and they can’t seem to find out what’s going on. For the second time that the contractor came out, I asked why the refrigerator kept freezing up. He shook his head and said he doesn’t know. That’s why I called AHS and they gave another company. It was two weeks that I was calling, and they said that it’s not ready and not yet fixed.

This new company says that they’re gonna work me in but their schedule was already filled for the next week. I told them that the best part about it is I have a backup refrigerator. However, submitting a claim was easy. The AHS representatives knew what was going on and they were really compassionate with me for having to go through this. They did everything I asked them to do. It’s just that the company that I’m getting doesn’t know what to do with it apparently. I just wanted my refrigerator fixed.

I love the fact that American Home Shield is timely and someone always contacts us the very next day. Whatever is wrong gets fixed and we're not sitting here waiting and suffering. The contractors that they sent are always professional. They let us know what's going on and how they fix it, and I enjoy that. We recently had a refrigerant leak on the air conditioner on my rental home so they had to come out and add more freon to the unit. It was very easy submitting the claim, which I normally do online. I just click what's wrong and it's done. AHS said the way my air condition sits, because of the vibration, it's going to leak every year so my only complaint would be they aren't going to fix it until it totally breaks down. That means every year I'm getting a different crack in different places of my air condition unit that I have to have repair every single year. I find that to be ridiculous. But other than that, they do a really good job.

We had a compressor unit go down on an air conditioner. The contractors from AHS communicated well. They scheduled ahead of time and called when they're on the way. When they were doing an inspection on the AC, they found that another AC was leaking stuff, too. So we had two of the air conditioner units go out. They seemed knowledgeable and explained everything well beyond what I wanted to know. They were also extremely polite and didn't track stuff into the house. They were worried about making sure that everything was clean. Everything was done great.

I called American Home Shield for a service quote recently. My latest claim with them was for the AC. I submitted my claim over the phone and it wasn't hard, but it took a long time, about 20 minutes wait, to get through to a rep. The contractor came out and said, "Oh sorry, we didn't know that the repair was for an AC on the second storey, so they had to cancel that appointment and come back the next day, and that was foul on their part.

But then they did take a month and a half, from May 3 till June 20, before they came back to get a little sheet rod repaired for me, which was really terrible because nobody followed up with them from Home Shield. They just did a patch and I knew that's what they would do. But if I wasn't just moving into my house and I was already living in there, I would have had a hole in the wall behind my refrigerator for a month and a half which is really uncalled for. The contractor seemed to know what he was doing, but my AC is still not working perfectly. We have to call them back to make sure that it's working properly because it's still hot upstairs on my second floor.

I recently filed a claim with AHS for our air conditioning and it was a very bad experience. First time I called was in May 18th, over a weekend, and they said that the person would be here on the 20th. They called me on the 20th and said that the person coming from Glendale, California, which is approximately 110 miles away from where we live, got sick and cannot come. Why would they even send someone from so far away when we have air conditioner people here?

My husband has COPD and I just got him out of the hospital so we need air down here. I had explained to AHS the problem. I told them that the master control inside just stopped but it worked again after I unplugged and plugged it back in. But it stopped again and that's when I called them to fix the outside unit. The lady helped me find someone here - a company I never heard of before.

The first contractor guy who came took the whole thing apart and checked the outside blower, which was working. It took him just five minutes, then he took our money and left. Two weeks later, there was a flooding all over the floor, no air conditioning at quarter of 8 at night and 95 degrees inside the house. There was water in the evaporation tube of the air conditioner. Turns out that was the problem, it was clogged. I did tell the contractor before that the problem possibly comes from the inside. All he had to do was eye-glaze and there was a PVC pipe that was right above it as this problem has apparently happened before. It should have been looked at, and me as the consumer shouldn't tell the air conditioner company where to look for the problem.

My husband can't breathe so I got hold of the contractor at 7:00. He's yelling at me that he doesn't take phone calls from people that are frantic and how dare I call him. He doesn't want to have a liability on me - he was afraid of a lawsuit. I told him somebody was supposed to fix the air conditioner but there was nothing more for me to say because he wasn't going to send anybody. He was just gonna keep it dripping. Hence my wall is ruined. He said he'll come instead between 3:00 and 5:00 and that it's not up to him to diagnose everything that's wrong with my air conditioner. Isn't that what I'm paying AHS every year for? I didn't deserve to be treated like that.

I sat at home all night long at 92 degrees plus I had to find a cooling center for my husband and dog. I also get a call from my homeowners insurance since the paste is coming off the wall. At 12:00 as I'm driving down the street, the contractor said they just had a cancellation and asked if I was home. The contractor (it was the owner) knew exactly what the problem was and his attitude changed from when he reamed at me. I apologized for having to call him after hours and explained that even though it's cool that they were trying to get someone else to come out, that would be another $88 from my own pocket. Moreover, I told him that I have to work at 6:00, I had to find my husband a cooling center, and he, the contractor had the nerve to think that I was going to sit in my home all day long, in the heat of the day.

The contractor didn't even charge me the extra $100 when he fixed the unit for the second time, so he knew what he did. He was rude - he didn't talk to me or even turn on the air conditioner to see if it worked. I asked him to come by the thermostat to show me how it works and he just said to turn it on like I normally do, it'll work fine. So overall, it was a horrible experience. I was so close on going to social media about it. AHS has a really good reputation, this is why we picked them over another company. But I was shocked by this contractor they sent out.

The other issue we had was we paid the tech that day the service fee and the additional amount that we owed. For some reason, AHS kept billing us for the service fee which we already paid. I held again for 45 minutes. The rep that answered the phone that time said he couldn't find a contractor who was open because it was then after 6 pm. I told him had I my dispatch number since 2 pm, but there was nothing he could do about it. He said he would call me back this morning, but no one called.

After a very long hot night, I called this morning.... held 20 minutes... got a lady who told me a local contractor had been assigned to my case. I was given the name and phone number of the contractor. When I call the contractor, the young lady basically said she couldn't help me get help before tomorrow (day 3). Now I do have someone coming tomorrow. In the meantime, I am elderly and unable to take my dogs, cats and parrot to a hotel. My garage door has messed up twice and AHS sent the same company out. The contractor put a few more different parts in there, I paid my $100 deductible and everything was good. I've always been pleased with the company AHS sends except for the plumbing company they sent about a year and a half ago when I called about a leak near my water meter. I didn't know if I was covered or not so I asked a bunch of questions and, according to them, it was covered so they set up a contractor. I came to find out when the contractor came over that I was not covered and this contractor charged me an arm and a leg. So I called AHS back about it and they took the deductible but I still had a big plumbing bill that I could have avoided. It’s the only problem I’ve ever had with them.

I also thought the plumbing company was outrageous for what they charged for something that was very simple. I could have probably spent $200 with a different plumber but I spent $800 with this company. I called the company later, tried to talk to whoever was in-charge of the company and told him that they were gouging people, but he pretty much ignored me.

I had a water heater issue and when I submitted a claim with American Home Shield, I started on the phone as I wanted to understand what the claim was, how we could handle it, who would be doing it and what choices that we had whether we wanted to have it done by them entirely or we would take the claim settlement and take care of it ourselves. I completed the claim online and the process was very easy. The contractors came out and looked at the water heater and said it needs to be replaced. That's all that they had to do. Then the claim was accepted. What we had them do was send us a claim settlement. We handled it from there and we got the contractor in. Overall, it was satisfactory and very simple with AHS. They were careful and everything was taken care of properly.

I live in Arizona so it's obviously very hot here. My air conditioner is not working and it's 87 degrees in my house. I submitted a claim last night and I was told that there would be a 10-minute wait, but I was on hold for one hour and seven minutes before someone picked up. American Home Shield told me that they would try and put in an emergency call to get somebody out last night and that they would, hopefully, have somebody call me. They email me normally with the contractor's information.

At 6:00 this morning, I still have not heard anything. So I called AHS again and they said they were not able to get anyone on an emergency basis, where it ended up 90 degrees in my house. I waited at home because I presumed they would get somebody over. They told me that they had put a ticket in to a company this morning and that they will not open until 8:00am. I called the contractor at 8:00 and left my name, address, phone number, and the voicemail. I called back at 10:00am and a gentleman answered the phone and said he was driving and would call me back in 10 or 15 minutes. I still haven't heard anything and my air conditioner is still not working.

Updated on 01/28/2019: Hands down the biggest waste of your money! I have had AHS for years now on two separate homes and if you ask me they are thieves. I have only had two claims with them and both were absolute nightmares. First was a water heater. After having two different service people out to confirm my water heater was dead, AHS tried to replace my 75 gallon water heater with a 50 gallon. They told me I had no choice because they don’t make 75 gallon tanks anymore. Well, that was a straight up lie. While on the phone with them I had a Google search up on my computer listing dozens of 75 gallon water heaters. The problem was they didn’t want to pay for the equivalent replacement and thought they could strong arm me into a lesser replacement. It wasn’t until I threatened to sue for breach of contract that they did the proper replacement. This took days fighting with them for hours on the phone and in emails back and forth.

The second and most recent was my washing machine. I have a top of the line LG front load washer that died. Again, after two different service companies they tell me it has to be replaced. This time they sent me a list of cheap replacement washing machines that were less than half the replacement cost of the current similar machine to mine. The only other option they gave me was a cash offer of half the new replacement cost of my machine. This time I can’t even get anyone to return my calls. I have even tried two different people in their “customer retention department” and they are blatantly ignoring me. I paid for their “Top of the Line” policy which included “repair or replace with a similar unit” and I have now been offered half of what they are contractually bound to do. They thought my threats were empty but I will be taking them to arbitration for breach of contract.

My advice is be very skeptical about American Home Shield, or frankly any of these home warranty companies. They play a numbers game hoping you get tired of fighting with them for what they tell you they will do when you sign up. If you have problems you will be given such a runaround that trust me, it’s not worth it. I have spent countless hours, and days, trying to get them to do as contracted and just don’t have the time or patience to deal with them anymore. In all seriousness, run from American Home Shield.

The woman I spoke to could not answer any questions and said I had to read the email she was sending to see my replacement options. She wouldn’t even tell me what my options were. It wasn’t until I saw the email that I found out my replacement options that I mentioned above, and again, no one to talk to to dispute the replacement.

Original Review: It has been 3 weeks and countless HOURS on the phone with "American Home Shield" and I am still waiting for them to replace my water heater. The first contractor (Budget heating in MO) they sent wanted to replace my 80 gal water heater with a 50 gal and they also wanted to charge me $300+ in additional charges to install a smaller water heater. I then called AHS for a second opinion. It took almost a week to get the second contractor to come out. The second contractor confirmed my suspicions that Budget was shady and is known for up charging and poor quality work (I also had an independent contractor (3rd opinion) come look who confirmed the reputation of Budget).

AHS has done nothing to expedite the repair and even tried to get me to "cash out" for the cost of the 50 gal water heater the first company suggested. AHS has given me the run around and have done absolutely nothing to try to satisfy this customer. By the time this whole thing is done I'm sure it will be at least a MONTH before they replace my leaking water heater. To anyone considering "American Home Shield," I can only say this... Run for your life!!!

When you submit a claim online, sometimes it takes AHS a while to respond so I call them up. The way they do the claim is that they charge you one work order. They can only add multiple items to one work order if the contractor does all of those items. So if it's plumbing, AHS will charge $75 for any number of items in the work order. But if it's air conditioning, then it's a different contractor.

We did one work order to replace the kitchen faucet and water heater. The problem was when they replaced my faucet that was leaking, which was a quality Moen, they put a generic faucet which doesn't work correctly. Basically, they replaced an expensive part with a cheap part which I didn't approve of. We only have the faucet for a month or two and there's something wrong with the mechanism where it keeps closing on us. I have to call AHS and get them to replace it again.

For the water heater, they don't make it anymore. The 80-gallon that was initially installed is an internal water heater that uses circulation from the outside air. They didn't want to pay me to install a tankless water heater and only wanted to give me 2900. I had to downgrade to 50-gallon because I didn't want to spend extra just to replace the water heater. I also changed the contractor because they were trying to overcharge me because they knew it was an emergency. The contractors are bad. So I was out of warm water for almost three months just trying to find the right contractor to install a good water heater and to do it for the amount that AHS was only going to cash out. Then sometimes I have to restart the pilot when it dies because it doesn't have a fan to bring in the air for the flame to start up. So I need to call the plumber to come back in and replace it.

I can't really complain since I've only had American Home Shield for three months. I only pay 40 bucks and they paid for the whole water heater that was close to 3 grand. So technically, them replacing the water heater pays for the service for three years. I'm still keeping them as long as they don't deny the claim and they're willing to pay for it. I just wish they would swap out better parts.

I'm happy with American Home Shield's program. They have a good product and the work ultimately gets done. But the last couple of times, I threatened that if they send me somebody inferior again, I'll get rid of them. I am dissatisfied with 90 percent of the people they use to do the service work. I have no prejudice against any ethnicity, I could care less. But unfortunately they tend to use a lot of Russian contractors who are about one step up behind a goat. I had to throw a few of them out of my house over the years. I had one of them spit in my face. I told them they can't not take care of their people. When one finally gets to somebody in authority, then they help. I toyed with the idea of leaving but when everything is weighed, the product is good that if I need service I would just have to plan that it's going to take three to four phone calls and two weeks to get it done.

The last thing they fixed was a trash compactor and that took five weeks, which is unacceptable. But they do have a good product. It's one of the few companies that if something was preexisting they will cover. I've been with them so long that I have nothing but good to say about them and with them, but they need to be better. Also, they don't like to replace. For example, my brother had a problem with the air conditioning system and they sent the Russians out again and to simplify it, they "put a Band-Aid on a gash". They came back and they didn't want to do this and that and finally my brother told them he got the CEO's home address and said, "He'll get sued in the next week. They'll just deliver the subpoena to his house. I'm tired of this." Then they came out and fixed it.

Their customer service stinks, and all I'm asking is they give more. They're supposed to have an emergency service. I used to have my mother who was 93 years old. I had a problem and I told them I needed this service. The issue could be life threatening and it still took 72 hours to get somebody out. I ended up having to just call an emergency company and pay for it myself.

I have six properties with them and my brother is with them too. I have three or four properties in Florida that are already with AHS and I tried another company. I just bought that property eight months ago and there was a warranty in place already, which is due to expire soon, and rather than change it, I figured I'd wait. I'm going to add it to AHS but before I do, I will call them up and they have to put a note in my file because I won't take one more problem like I've had. I'll just dump them all and everybody in my family will dump them, which to them maybe doesn't matter because it's only 20 to 25 accounts. But when I get done writing them up on the internet, hopefully it snowballs.

My experience with American Home Shield has been nothing short of a nightmare. On May 20, my A/C unit kept tripping the breaker in the breaker box. AHS sent out a repair company (Myers Comfort Specialists) and they diagnosed the issue to be a bad compressor and proceed to tell me that it must be replaced. I agree, and then in the meantime I receive a call from AHS stating that I owe $900 for refrigerant!! I have a young child and a wife that is 8 weeks pregnant, so I reluctantly agree and pay the money. 4 days pass by at 90+ degree temps, and then the repair is made. The system works for a short time and then stops working again on 6/10. I call AHS and they send Myers out again, but this time they say it is the evaporator coil and that it must be replaced. I agree, and they advise there should be no charge since they came out less than 30 days ago to make repairs.

4 days go by (again, with 90+ degree temps), then I receive a call from AHS stating that I now owe $350 for code upgrades and modifications to the duct work. I, again, reluctantly agree. Then I am told there is an "access issue" to my A/C unit as it is under my house. There is an access door to underneath my home. I have another technician come out and advise me to cut a 3ft x 3ft section out of my deck for the technicians to get the parts in. I, again, reluctantly agree and I cut the section of decking out myself. I call the next day, and Myers advises they will send someone out that same day.

The tech arrives and advises he "cannot make the repairs" and it will "take him all day" and leaves. I call his supervisor who tells me he has to check into it and call me back. I then get a call from AHS stating that I will now owe an additional $600 for moving duct work!!! At this point, I am furious and without A/C for more than 1 week in June in Central Alabama! I call AHS back and they advise I can use the "Cash in Lieu" option which I asked for them to request.

I call today (2 days after request is submitted) and now I'm told they won't process it until 3 days from now because they are backed up?? AHS and Meyers Comfort Specialists are both dishonest, uncaring companies. AHS takes your money but makes you basically do all the follow up and leg work to get your repairs made and they hire shady contractors that just add to the cost of repairs when something is inconvenient.

We called American Home Shield (AHS) to report that our A/C was freezing over at the outside unit and not cooling the home. AHS sent out a tech who checked the freon, said it was "a little low, but not enough to cause freezing", said it looked alright, and advised us to turn it off and allow everything to thaw completely and then turn it back on. We had our wedding that weekend, so we were very busy. We turned it off, allowed it to thaw (from what we could see on the external pipe), and then ran fan-only for a couple of days. After we returned after the wedding, we turned it back on and in a matter of hours, it was frozen solid again. After Googling what could cause the freezing, we replaced the air filter and then opened the case where the evaporator coil was to see that the whole thing was a huge block of ice. We turned off everything and allowed that to fully thaw and called AHS back about sending out another tech.

At this time, AHS told us they didn't cover our HVAC because it had zones. We pulled out our contract and there is no exclusion for HVAC units with zones, and one of the primary reasons we got a home warranty was to cover otherwise very expensive HVAC repairs. We called and asked for the specific exclusion and were told, "We can't find where it says it's not covered... but it's not."

We paid a tech from another HVAC company to diagnose, and he determined it was a faulty thermal expansion valve and gave us a quote for his repair. We called AHS back to give the diagnosis and see if they would comply with our contract and send a technician to do the repair. They said they were going to send someone and gave us the name of the "company". It sounded off to me, so I Googled the "company" to find nothing... It's a mom-and-pop "contracting" set-up out of someone's home. Their "business" number went to someone named "Tanya"'s voicemail. We also found out AHS planned to charge us ANOTHER $75 to have this amateur come out and obviously find a reason to deny the claim AGAIN. We called back and cancelled so we didn't have some amateur working on our home's HVAC.

All we want is the terms of our simple contract honored. They are trying to not only pull the wool over our eyes by falsely denying a basic HVAC repair, but also send out an amateur who could potentially do far more damage (if he even actually touched it rather than just reported back to them with the denial they're looking for). AHS is trying to do all they can to get out of paying for a legitimate repair when we have paid not only for the first year of warranty after the purchase of our home, but extended for two more years. Is no one honest anymore? Are there no ethics left in any business? We have young kids who are sweating it out in June because of this, and we want it fixed. We won't rest until AHS pays, or at least reimburses, for the rightful coverage in our contract.

I'm glad I've had American Home Shield. It gives me peace of mind. I've had them since I bought my brand new house and I've been very pleased with them. Submitting a claim was easy to do and I've had them out three times - twice for air conditioning. They've found problems and fixed it. It cost me 75 bucks and I'm very happy with the money I've spent.

My brother said that my dishwasher wasn't acting right so I called them. They came out and the repairman went through everything. Something malfunctioned, but the dishwasher worked while the repairman was present. He gave me 30 days that if it acted up again, they'd come back out and would fix it at no service charge. I'm very satisfied with that. The dishwasher has been acting fine and dandy. I haven't had to call them out again. However, while the contractor eventually comes it sometimes takes a while. It takes two to three days, depending on what my claim is.

The technician came out five times and he finally took it to his shop and spent 28 hours working on it. It was beyond fixable so American Home Shield said they would give $1,500 if I would decide not to fix it. It was a pretty good deal. I’ve got a gas stove instead of an electric and quite happy with it. American Home Shield is a fine company. I’ve got more in service than I paid in premium. It had run out of Freon and my unit was completely frozen. I submitted the claim online and had an email from them confirming it within minutes. It took a while to get somebody there but they were there that day, and it was fixed and good to go. I've used the contractor once before and I have had great success with them.

My most recent claim on my water softener with AHS is still open and we’re still trying to get a resolution to it. There's no problem submitting claims to AHS and they're taking care of the claims. But it happened two days before my policy expired, so I had to renew. And they did choose to put me under another policy but it’s not as comprehensive as what I would like. It really wasn’t my choice. They said, “Here’s the policy where you’re going to be under from here on out if you choose to stay with us." And they also doubled my premium. So, therein lies the problem. But they’re still going to carry my claim on to the appendix to the other policy because it’s still open.

I’m a real estate agent and I sell these policies to my client. And I've had AHS policy for almost 20 years and because of the amount of claims that they had on my personal home, they’ve chosen to discontinue my coverage. I can’t imagine selling a product that I don’t use myself. And even the fact that I sell 10 to 15 policies a year at $500 a piece doesn’t seem to matter to them. I’m very disappointed with them as a company.

American Home Shield has always done me well. I've been very satisfied, so I would certainly recommend them unless they change the rules. I've been hearing from other people that they changed the rules and if that happens, then I won't recommend them to anybody. My son has the policy up in Weatherford and they denied every claim he made, stuff that we had gotten approved, except they worked on his air conditioner one time. It took him $350 to fix what they broke. He also said that he got a letter from AHS saying that from now on, they were going to charge him a certain amount of dollars just to bring freon. They were knowledgeable, very courteous, very professional, and very good. They fixed the AC unit. However, I was a little upset because last year, the exact same unit had the exact same problem. There was no Freon in it. They refilled it and the customer had to pay for the Freon, which is very, very expensive. The contractor was going to replace it but came up with a bunch of extra stuff that needed to be done in order to replace the air handler and had an extra $1700 worth of fees on top of what American Home Shield was going to cover. They were also wanting not to cover some of the stuff needed to be done to replace the air handler and I wasn’t too happy about it. AHS never repaired the air handler because of the extra money the contractor wanted. They ended up cutting me a $900 check for the air handler and left me with a repair bill costing about $2700 that I needed to cover less the $900.

I had AHS for six years and then I cancelled it. Then I went back on again and have had it for a year and a half now. I recently submitted a claim because my pressure release valve was leaking. The online claim submission was pretty straightforward. I placed the service request in and they came in to replace that valve. I explained the problem to the contractor and he did his job. He explained a few reasons of why the valve would need to be replaced. The problem was resolved!

My previous experience was some of the items weren’t even covered. I have a wine cooler that they don’t carry the type of brand. The one question I had was I have a couple of water heaters in the garage and they were kind of inland pipe which was really rusting badly. I was worried that it might rupture anytime and I was requesting them to try to see if they could do some proactive work but the answer was no. I rested that at that point. Also, some of the experience we had, maybe some of that is my own fault before signing up with American Home Shield for their service. For instance, the compressor in an AC is making really loud noise which even bothers the neighbor. I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out but they said while it’s still working, it’s not broken, so they refused to replace it.

But if the noise is that loud to even bother the neighbor, that to me is broken. That was my dissatisfaction and eventually I had to replace the entire unit. So my experience originally was not bad but with the air-conditioner and also the wine cooler, I may decide to discontinue the service with them. My true feeling is that if I see it’s broken and you don’t see it’s broken just to save a few bucks, that’s not a service, not some company I want to deal with. I recommended them to a few friends but they choose a different provider.

But I do have a positive experience with my sub-zero freezer that’s got two compressors. One is with a fridge, one is for a freezer. The compressor for the fridge broke. I placed a call and the man came to rebuild it. The problem was resolved to my satisfaction, but overall the way they approach it, they just rebuild it instead of replacing the broken compressor. That for me wasn’t really totally my expectation. They're trying to resolve the problem at an instant but not for a long-term solution.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield about the dishwasher and it was a disaster. There were three parts that needed to be done and they called some guy out but it was on Christmas and he wasn't going to be able to come out for three weeks. So they called and got somebody else because that's too long to go without a dishwasher. The other guy came out in four days which wasn't bad. He looked at the parts that he needed, sent it to American Home Shield and American Home Shield shipped out the parts to the first company that never came out. It was like one of those Comedy of Errors. They sent the wrong parts and they were trying to ship it around. It ended up with me having to call between these two companies to get the parts shipped which took three weeks and American Home Shield was very hands off about helping.

There was one woman that was very helpful and another woman who was very kind. But I called them no less than 10 times and the rest of them were was also kind but didn't have any idea what they were talking about nor did they care to find out. So I ended up having to do most of the legwork. Now the dishwasher is working and while the key panel was broken, it got fixed also so I was happy with the company. The contractor was very kind too but the one who calls to ask you why you're not signing back up was a hard sell lady and I felt threatened.

She called about the thing they sent us for $600 which I told her was too expensive so I didn't think we're going to renew. She said we can do this other one and they'll take $70 off. I told her it's still too expensive and she went on to tell me what we can do for our air conditioner and heater for only $400 something. I told her my husband's home and to let me talk to him before I say anything. However, she took it personal and said "You have to put half down now." I told her I can't do that, so she said "I'm closing this. You can pay the 600-dollar one in the mail if you change your mind. Thank you. Bye." I felt like I've been held hostaged! I know they're supposed to be a hard sell but it left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. It was 6:30 and she might have had a really long day, but still I was mad. So I'm very dissatisfied.

I called again to get a new service for this year but they put in that same company for the new order. I told them I didn't want those particular people and I had a bad experience with them. But AHS wouldn't change it for me so I had to cancel the service. After I canceled it, I never replaced the order and we resolved the issue ourselves. I should be calling American Home Shield when I was still having the issue but the thing is, I couldn't specifically ask for a different company. You never know which company they will send and it's very random. I also find that everyone I speak to, as far as the representatives are concerned, say different things and it's not always constant.

So I like the whole idea of American Home Shield, like if there's something wrong, for a hundred dollars they come fix it. They've also been fair but I don't like the contractors they choose. I referred my sister to them because I was somewhat happy with the whole concept of it, and she had a horrible experience with the contractors too. AHS didn't even call her back on it. When she talked to an administrator, he kept saying "I think it's ongoing, I'll get back to you," and never did because the contractor never finished. I have mixed feelings about them and I think they have to do a better screening of the contractors.

They sent over a repairman that looked at the refrigerator and saw all the things that it was missing or needed to be replaced and he says, “Well, they’re probably gonna replace your refrigerator.” Well, they didn’t. They just sent the new parts and will keep sending the same parts as they break down. What they’re trying to get me to do is go ahead and buy the new refrigerator, which I’ve done. So I’m gonna let them spend the money to put this refrigerator up to snuff and then I’m gonna donate it to someone that really needs it, which is like $1500. Then I called again because my husband has a heart condition and he can’t be in any heat, so I let them know that it was going to be bad if we didn’t get something right away. The person called me that morning and they sent somebody out by 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The contractor that they sent explained exactly what was going on, did his job and cleaned up after himself. I really like American Home Shield and I'm glad we have it. We’d love to have the contractor that they sent last time back if we need service again because the guy did such a good job.

My heat pump stopped working. It took almost three months to get the claim approved but was handled eventually. When the repair company first came out, they took out the fan to see if they could match it. And so after a month, they finally gave up on that and went back to American Home Shield and said "We can’t repair this. We probably need to replace the unit." And then there was a disagreement between them and American Home Shield as to what should be done. AHS wanted the entire heating and heat pump to be replaced but the repair company said that they only needed to replace the heat pump. So we finally got that resolved and they just did the heat pump and some type of a coil on the furnace. There was a three-week lead time to get the parts shipped but it was actually done in two. It was done during the winter months so it wasn't that big of a deal. It didn’t affect heating and cooling and I was able to maintain it.

My dishwasher panel got a jolt and it went out so I had American Home Shield repair it. Also, my refrigerator's ice maker and door flap yielded and after so many years, it went bad so they put on new parts. The contractor thought they have figured out what the problem was and fixed the ice maker, which was supposedly fixed when they first came to diagnose everything. Then one of them said, "It should be making ice within an hour", but four hours later it didn't make any ice. I called them up and the guy said they'll order a new one. He took my call on a Friday at 6:00 PM (he was at home and he was nice about it), and then he came on Monday and they ordered the parts that same day. Everything's working great.

I have used American Home Shield many times for the last several years. They give me peace of mind and they're worth paying for. I don't have to pull out a bunch of money out of my pocket to get things fixed. I slowly pay for it. I have recommended and explained AHS to some of my friends out-of-state, and some of them in Florida and other places.

On June 12, 2016, I used the AHS online service request mechanism for a broken kitchen faucet. Almost immediately, I received a confirmation of the request and assignment of a service provider. When I checked with that provider on June 14, they had not yet received a work order. I attempted to contact AHS directly, but after 30 minutes on hold I gave up. Also, the online AHS chat does not work at all. As of June 17, still no work order or vendor contact. Online AHS has no status for my service request. Writing this review while on hold (again) with AHS for 20 minutes. This experience reflects my attempts from earlier this year to investigate coverage for an ice maker. I recommend using First American Home Warranty instead.

When I first called and expressed interest in purchasing a home warranty through American Home Shield, I spoke to the customer service representative who was informing me about the warranty program. AHS customer service made it seem like it was way too good to be true. (Paying only 100 dollar deductible and nothing else for service calls unless it's kitchen appliances at that time it will be a 3000 dollar limit). So feeling unsure about how good it sounded, I asked this gentleman probably ten times if I would be paying any out of pocket expenses for AC, Water Heater etc. to the point where I knew that he was probably annoyed. He kept reassuring me that I would not pay any out of pocket expenses any more than the 100 dollar deductible. Well I signed up, and felt very optimistic, and thought that I was dealing with competent people who knew what they were doing.

Now my AC unit took a turn for the worse, and I filed a claim with AHS. They made sure they sent me an email saying that “As a reminder if the contractor determines that refrigerant is required, your home warranty plan will cover the first $10 for each pound of refrigerant needed. Any amount over this is considered a non-covered expense and is payable directly to your contractor at the time of your service along with the service call fee." So, my AC unit takes anywhere from 6-10 pounds of R22 refrigerant. I called the contractor, who was supposed to come out, and I asked them how much refrigerant costs, they told me 105 dollars minus 10 dollars per pound. So do the math. On top of the 100 dollar deductible, my out of pocket expense could range anywhere from 500-100 dollars.

Now I will give AHS the benefit of the doubt the contract does state the following regarding 10$ per pound, but what about the customer service rep who told me numerous times that I would NOT have any out of pocket expenses. Ladies and gentlemen horrible service I would not recommend this to anyone. You know they say these calls are monitored for quality assurance well they need to retrace my call to when I signed up, and take disciplinary action against that customer service rep that was completely dishonest at his job. Needless to say, I immediately cancelled my service with American Home Shield because they were extremely dishonest and didn't even try to reconcile the issue with me or offer a deal to keep my service. Bad news folks, stay away.

I contacted American Home Shield on Monday, the 13th, and requested service on our 2 a/c units at our home and guest house. I waited approximately 30 minutes to talk with a representative and finally my information was taken by a computer. I called again on Tuesday to verify there was someone coming to repair BOTH of our a/c units, and again I had to wait approximately 30 minutes, but I was able to talk to a customer service representative. She verified I did have a customer request to repair 2 a/c units, and the repair company, AirNow, from Memphis would be contacting me tomorrow. The tech called from AirNow and told me he would be there tomorrow between 3 pm and 7 pm, and we had to turn off the a/c for at least 6 hours prior to that. I questioned him regarding this due to the high heat and humidity we were having, and he curtly said that if I did not do this I would have to wait for another appointment.

He finally arrived and I told him the problems with each of the units, and he became upset and defiant because he said he only had one work order and he was "only touching one unit". I called American Home Shield to report this, and I was on hold for at least 20 minutes, and finally a representative came on and I explained my dilemma, and that we have an animal rescue and that some of the older animals depend on the a/c for their comfort. The customer service person attempted to call the tech to clear up the situation and the tech would not answer his phone, so I took him the phone and they spoke.

The a/c tech, Scott, became angry and told him he was only working on one a/c unit today! The customer service person said I ordered the service correctly, but "Scott" was only repairing one unit today!!! I told him this was not acceptable and our animals were suffering due to this, and I have been waiting for repairs since Monday, and it is now Thursday! Our second unit will not be repaired now until sometime next week! After giving Scott a check for his services today he sullenly and sarcastically said, "I'm sorry", and stomped to his truck to leave.

In the meantime I have been on hold to speak to a manager, and waited for over a hour to speak to a floor manager! He informed me I would have to have the same man come back to repair the second unit, and yes, pay him to do so. I told the manager the plight of my animals, and there was nothing he could do except give me a free visit, but not for AirNow, another visit. I proceeded to tell the manager that I do not feel comfortable having Scott from AirNow here again due to his behavior and he told me that he did not think Scott displayed dangerous behavior! Now, he does not know this person, nor did he hear our conversation and its tones. So my feelings were disqualified! I have never been so disappointed in people in my life! We have been with American Home Shield for 4+ years, and other than long waits on the phone, no problems! I am done with them!!!

I had to call the same contractor out here three times because every time, he was just fixing one piece instead of all of it. He was frustrated with me when I called him back It was 30 minutes after he had left because it was the first time we had used it after he had left. But he did come back that same day. He said that they had already closed the ticket so he was going to try to make me call American Home Shield again and I told him that I’m not paying for him to come out here again when he was just here 30 minutes ago.

Then, the people who get assigned to my claim immediately call me an hour later to schedule a visit. The most recent one I had was with plumbing. The bathtub tub faucet handle wasn't working right and a guy came out and fixed that. The valve that's underneath the sink was loose as well and he re-tightened it and was able to resolve the issue. Everything's working optimally as I expected since the repairs have been made. I've had a lot of warranty programs and this, by far, is the easiest I've ever had gone through to use. However, they need to cover some more stuff. I could use whoever they have on the back end to get people to call so promptly. I need that for a lot of other things I need to do in my house.

They put up with the leaking and not getting proper hot water, then their heater went out 7 days after their warranty expired. They called to ask if the company would still honor the warranty after it had been only 7 days but were told they had to renew at almost $700. I called because my clients have gotten very poor service and get nowhere when they call. I spoke with the very same rep named Rashelin that Nicole of Burien had reviewed about on 6-9-2016 who also disconnected me while I waited to speak with a Supervisor.

When I called back another representative had no records I called. She also put me on hold and argued with me they do not service water heaters. Talked over me when I explained the issues they were having. They have the same issue the person in Burien had. Basically they told their water heater would have to be completely broken and leak water in their home before someone could come out. One person told me they do not service anything while another told be they do. One man I spoke with actually tried to sell me a renewal warranty, quoting me $380, then $479.88, with $75 off!

We have made a few claims through them now, and even when they get the job done, the results are barely satisfactory. Our latest repair request has been a complete nightmare though. We've been attempting to get our dishwasher fixed for 6 weeks now, and AHS has run us through so many hoops that we could have paid for a new dishwasher if we were paid minimum wage for the hours we've spent on the phone dealing with their lies. I say lies because their customer service reps have consistently lied to us rather than deal with the problem.

For example, one representative claimed that it was against company policy to allow us to speak to a supervisor. Nonsense clearly because the next day we were able to speak to a supervisor without issue. On our numerous other calls, multiple representatives refused to move our request forward by making weak excuses that the contractor should be given another chance. Keep in mind that our original contractor had been dodging all our phone calls and hadn't even spoken to us in 4 weeks, but for some reason, the representatives refused to contact a new contractor without making us call back an inordinate number of times. Constant excuses of "just one or two more days" turned into weeks and now months. After our free year is up on this new house, I hope I never have to do business with AHS again.

I am a disabled veteran with ongoing medical conditions which are exacerbated by heat and humidity. Yesterday, my A/C quit working on 100+ degree day. I submitted an online request for service and was dispatched to an unresponsive contractor (I called the contractor's number 10 times in three hours and no one answered). Then, I called AHS for assistance and was told the contractor had tried to reach me but I was unresponsive. I informed AHS that my phone was by my side (like it always is) and that I had not received any calls.

AHS rep put me on hold and "magically" got through to the contractor (who of course answered for her because he recognizes the phone number and gets paid by AHS) and the contractor told her he didn't want to be patched through to talk with me because he was too busy. I then requested the AHS rep change my dispatch to a more responsive contractor (one who would answer the phone). She said she would not. I informed her it was 100+ degrees outside and 95 degrees in the house but she was not helpful.

Thirty minutes later I got an unfriendly call from the contractor and was informed they could not see me until two days later, no exceptions. Due to my medical conditions, that was not an option. At that point, I got on Angie's List and called a contractor with high ratings (who actually answered his phone) and explained my situation. He was booked solid, but said if I was willing, he would come out late in the evening. He showed up, was professional and friendly, replaced the part, cleaned the unit, and then presented the bill.

I told him of my fiasco with AHS and the non-responsive contractor, and he apologized and said that he also does contract work for AHS and that typically, they are a great company. He advised me to call back and let AHS know that I found an AHS vendor who was able to take care of the situation and to have AHS cancel the original dispatch and change it to his company. Instead of paying the total bill, he told me to pay just the co-pay. He completed the work and I called AHS to request a dispatch change. AHS refused to make the change. I am very disappointed with AHS and recommend others steer clear of them.

Year To Date - I have paid $6,500 for AHS's warranty which does not include the multiple service fees.

At this point, I feel my air unit has been band aided and no one seems to know what is wrong because it is still broken. When speaking with AHS, I cannot get any resolution and as a consumer it's very frustrating especially when you have invested money to have the protection you were told you would get. As of now, I am on my second air tech, my house is extremely hot and my family is displaced due to these conditions. Again, I trusted and valued AHS and now I feel AHS have failed me and failed to understand the situation I am in. What is a customer to do when you have done all you can. Within 2-3 weeks the problems I had called for repair, are right back to being a problem again. I can't continue to pay $75 again & again... I have been with your company over 6 yrs... I could have bought all new appliances with the money I have paid your company & the continuing increasing service call fee. I am seeking another warranty company. Your company has so many poor reviews I would like a refund for this years fees. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB if nothing is resolved & refunded.

Updated on 06/27/2016: Now I will be contacting the BBB. I was on the phone for almost 3 straight hrs last Thursday. 35 minutes just to wait to talk to them. Then requested a supervisor, waited 10 min, until original rep came back to tell me to wait again... I went off on her. I advised her that the contractor was just out 10 minutes ago, put in the new parts in my dryer and stupid Sears contractor didn't even check if it worked after that. Well, the dryer still doesn't work. I requested he come back. Ohhhh no... I have to wait another week. No one from AHS has yet called me to resolve situation, just sent this standard reply back... That they are sorry & will resolve it for me.

We have American Home Shield as a home warranty company for our investment property located in Phoenix, Az. As everyone knows it gets unbelievable hot in Phoenix during the summer months. The Ac of the property was originally making a loud noise and we placed a service call on Friday May 27th. A contractor was sent to the house on Tuesday May 31st, this property is a 2 story townhouse and the contractor didn't bring a ladder tall enough therefore he left promising our tenant he would be back within the next couple hours with a taller ladder.

Couple hours went by and we didn't hear from the contractor therefore we called the contractor and he told my husband he wasn't camping back because the power lines were too low on that street. We tried calling AHS and waited on hold for over one hour, tried to place another service online request but we were unable to because that service request was still open. On Wednesday when we finally got someone on the line they told us a new contractor would be at the property on Friday. A different contractor shows up on Friday without a ladder and once again couldn't go on the roof. This contractor was from ice man and told us he would be back on the next day. The contractor comes back the next day and tell us there is something wrong with the motor and he ordered the new part and it will be in Monday June 6th.

On Monday June 6th the Ice Man contractor comes back and replaces the part, on Tuesday the ac stops working again. Once again it's 110 degree in Phoenix while this happening. We call ice man and are told that nobody can come in before Friday June 10th. We have contacted American Home Shield several times and every single time waited on hold for at least 40 minutes, requested to speak to a supervisor several times and their customer service representatives are trained to just say nobody is available. Friday June 10th we finally get someone in the house, now it has taken so long for someone to check the ac that the compressor went out and they tell us the part needs to be ordered and AHS has approved the expense and that they will need a crane to have the compressor moved to the roof.

I called on Saturday and spoke to a CSR that tells me AHS will pay for the compressor and crane and we have nothing to worry about. My husband gets a call from an AHS supervisor on Tuesday 06/14 saying that we are responsible for paying for the crane. On 6/15 I call IceMan and I am informed the compressor is in but nobody can install it until the following Wednesday June 22nd meanwhile there is a heat warning for Phoenix.

I called AHS and asked to speak to a supervisor about requesting expedite service, the csr transferred me to a voicemail. Called AHS again after waiting on hold for 45 minutes asked the other csr to transfer me a supervisor and she refused to. This Friday will be 3 weeks since my original call and my issue is still not resolved. Meanwhile I had to spend $430 on a portable ac unit, I am giving my tenants a discount on their rent for putting up with the heat and will have to pay $250 for a crane after waiting nearly 4 weeks to have my issue resolved. Worst experience ever.

AHS never has anything in stock when I try to order. I have to end up going in a store, purchasing it myself and then be reimbursed, and it takes two to three weeks to get my money back. They also need to get more stuff in the warehouse like different brands besides GE so I won't have to go out and buy one and then wait for my check to come. I got everything mix-matched because that's the way it is in my house and I want it to be uniform.

American Home Shield is doing their part, but the people that come out to do the repair were the problem. My most recent claim was for a freezer, and I did a combo package but the service person that they sent out didn't take the measurements. And AHS never have anything in stock that I want that's compatible. Also the people that they send out never did show back up and I don't like to deal with people like that. However, I had the air conditioner repaired and they did the Freon there. That was the only good result that I had when they came out.

She gave me a number and told me who they’d be sending out and told me that they would contact me, and they did. The contractor was a very personable guy. He came in, worked, fixed the problem, and he went on his way. He knew what he was doing and he explained to me what happened to my oven, so I understood what they did. And then unfortunately for me, we found out it wasn’t fixed. In a couple of days, it ceased working again. Now that time, it took him a while to understand and they were in for another claim so they came out again and they had to order a part. It had to take us about a week. Once they got the key part in, he put it back in and everything’s working fine now.

Summer Breeze was at my house yesterday for two hours. They never came inside the house to check the thermostat or the fuse box. Nothing. When I got home after 6:00 pm I had no air. I would not recommend AHS or anyone in Metro Atlanta. Do not use Summer Breeze. The Tech crossed wires that caused the breaker to keep tripping. Dialed back and asked for the billing department and waited 5 minutes. I told her I wanted to cancel my contract as no one answered the other number. She said there was a storm in Texas and all the calls were taking longer than usual. She talked me into keeping the contract and after another 5 minutes scheduled a contractor to make the repair. She said I could call him and set up an appointment. I called him and was told he could not get out until Friday noon. I explained that the garbage disposer was not working and that the dishwasher could not drain as the sink was plugging up due to the garbage disposer not working. He said "sorry" and hung up. I spent the next 45 minutes trying to cancel that order and get another contractor but the office that handled cancellations closed at 7 p.m.

So I am cancelling my warranty and calling my own plumber which will cost me $75 plus a new disposer at $100 plus tax but I had to have my kitchen operational again. My warranty cost $40.00 and service call was $75 totaling $115.00. So I am out 2 hrs of my time and only $60 and the job done the next day. They don't need my business.

Submitting the claim to American Home Shield has not been a difficult process at all. However, they don’t have enough businesses that they deal with here that they can get somebody out ASAP. If you call on a Thursday or Friday, you don’t have to worry about expecting anybody until the following week. We have to give the people a 24-hour notice for someone to be able to come out. But if you’re paying for a service, most of the time when something breaks down, then it is an emergency and you want to try to get it up and going ASAP. They don’t seem to be very considerate of what the customer is having to deal with. They need to revamp whoever they have taking their calls. If I'm paying for a service for myself, I would like to receive a quality service. I can call any other local company here and they’ll say we have 24-hour round the clock if something happens, then they’ll come out. AHS should get with some of those people.

My contract specifically states that modifications are covered and American Home Shield is giving me the run around about why my A/C system is not working. I am familiar with A/C systems because this is what do for work.

I work on commercial systems and I just didn't want to fool with my home systems so I bought a warranty thinking this would all be handled. BOY WAS I WRONG! The people got back to us right away and stuff got fixed within 24 to 48 hours. However, I had a pump on my pool equipment go out recently, which was age related, and the pool sat there without a pump for close to a week. It took two or three calls to get a contractor to respond and then he showed up on his own time and got the pump fixed. I've talked to AHS several times about finding somebody new in the area for pool equipment and that there are several other reputable dealers, but they still seem to want to stay with STP Aquatics.

Every time I've called for the pool equipment, it's been three to five days before I even see the guy. The microwave hood before took close to a month because they couldn't find parts and then they said they'd finally do it. But once the technicians get here, everybody does a good job and everything works. Being the homeowner, I'm frustrated because I'm paying AHS to make this easier for me. If I wanted to wait a week, I can call anybody in the Yellow Pages and make an appointment. I've already started looking for other possible home appliance insurers because what made AHS different and exceptional no longer exists, at least from my interaction with them.

They have been out to fix the AC in one of my rental properties three times without fixing the problem. The heat is so bad I have had to put my tenant and his family up in a hotel.

Each time the contractor has come out there only solution has been to fill the AC unit with Freon. After the second time, I hired a local contractor come out who was not associated with AHS and they were able to diagnosis my problem immediately, which was the evaporator coil. I shared this information with the contractor and they informed me nothing was wrong with the coil. After the third trip we still have the same problem. It is so easy to request service with AHS - a simple click or two of the mouse and you'll receive an email in the next day or two; however, cancelling service is another story. I recently had to cancel service and waited on hold two separate times for 30+ minutes. When I tried the "Chat for Support" option on their website, it informed me that I would have to wait 45 minutes. The fact that a large company doesn't have a callback feature for their customer service desk is embarrassing. I have better things to do with my time than sit on hold for so long. When I finally reached a customer service rep, I asked for an email address so I could express my frustration. The rep told me that they do not have an email and that I could only send a letter through the postal service to their complaint department.

When I then asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told they were all busy and to try sending a letter. I informed the rep that I would rather wait longer so that I could actually speak to someone. I waited another 20 minutes, then finally spoke to someone. When I asked why I couldn't cancel as easily as I could set up an appointment I was told, "Because someone could cancel the service accidentally." Seriously? That's why you're forcing people to wait on hold for so long? When I asked about why they don't have a callback function for their customer service desk I was told, "Oh yes, that would be a good idea." Sigh.

They never called me back, so I called them after about a week and I asked them what was going on. They said American Home Shield denied the claim even though it was not specifically included in what AHS will cover and it was also not excluded in what they won't cover.

I thought that since it's in the house, it's electric. Even though it controls lighting that's outside the house, it's electric and inside the house. AHS is playing fast and loose with their definition. It should also be covered based on the electrician's response and they just had to order the part. I was not happy about that. It was a very expensive repair. It would have also been nice for them to have called me right back to say they weren't covering it so I could have gotten it taken care of right away. I had to wait a week and call them. I've had a good experience with American Home Shield except for this latest one. They should be very clear about what's covered and what's not before signing the agreement. Just because it's not listed as "not covered", doesn't mean that it is, so only those things that they say are specifically covered are the ones they'll cover.

I do not recommend this service. Trust me. Save your money to just pay or replace the item if or when it breaks. They take your monthly money but make you wait like a pest to get service. Answers and satisfaction is not a priority. They only want your monthly money. When something breaks or you have an issue with one of the terrible vendors, AHS just says to "hurry up and wait" basically. Please share this post and save your family from what we are dealing with for the last two weeks of waiting with no air. They just waiting for another payment, I'm sure. They suck soooo bad. The customer service is ghetto and could care less.

I've been with American Home Shield for years and never really had a problem with them. I recently submitted a claim for an electrical outlet and a light bulb. The contractor, Queen Electric, was wonderful. They had been out to my house twice and they provided great service. The repairs are holding and everything is good.
