I have a home warranty but now find out you must have total failure before they even care to assist. Partial failure where I must sit a hand fix the float each hour, they consider acceptable. Total failure with a sump pump is a flooded basement and 1000 deductible for a 400 sump pump. Don't use them. They are the worst and don't care. I paid the 400 myself as must have a working sump pump. Terrible company.
Updated 1/8/2017 - Wrote a review as worst home warranty ever... Do not buy. They came back and wrote... "Sorry for your experience and we will contact you soon." No contact ever happened, same exact response to all complaints from others and then... closed complaint as resolved. How can be resolved without speaking with me. Don't buy this warranty and definitely don't renew.

Aug. 4th 2016 it was reported that the A/C was broken. Both units since the house has two separate units were not working. It is now Sept. 15th and the 5th company is out checking to see if it can be fixed. Each company has reported that it can't be fixed, it is too old and where the problem exists (freon leak for one) it would have to be taken out of the place it resides in the house and gone through just to find the leak, let alone the other problems. Florida in the summer time is horrible with the heat. My son has multiple sclerosis, and can't get overheated or he ends up in the hospital. That was told to AHS many times, but they do not care. In fact they would drag their feet on even contacting a company to fix at least one of the units. You would think after nearly 7 weeks they could get the unit fixed. Yet all they do is send out another company in hopes that they can maybe fix it.
It never gets fixed. It is not as if it can be fixed and the people will be OK. It is a medical emergency that it gets fixed and not break in a matter of days or weeks. NO MORE BAND-AID repairs are going to fix the medical necessity of the situation. I would rate them below the stars available, but you have to do the star system that doesn't go low enough to rate the customer service, which is beyond horrible. The owner of the house was even told to go away and hung up on when he tried to see if they would send someone out. What does he pay each month for? It sure is not repairs or a warranty service. He is paying to be lied to, and taken to the cleaners. The owner has all the pertinent information about order numbers, contract numbers etc. I have the Dr's (neurologists) diagnosis and the hospital stays to verify my son’s medical condition. FLORIDA is not the PLACE WHERE YOU WANT TO LIVE IN THE SUMMER WITHOUT A/C.

Well I called AHS to put a claim because my AC is not working. They send or contract this co. Total Air Care in Florida. It has been 3 weeks without AC. I called AHS because they are the one that I have the contract with and they seemed like they don't care. I have a child with handicapped and they are telling that at this moment if I decide to change AC Co. we will have to start all over again. I feel that I have not received a great customer service. We have tons AC company here in Florida. I am pretty sure they would have help me find someone else. Now today they are saying that the part will get here today or tomorrow. I am hoping they will call me today and said the part is here and they can come today or tomorrow or will mean that I will have to go thru another weekend without AC. I just want AC in my house. Thanks.

The most recent claim we had to American Home Shield was for a plumbing problem in the bathroom. Filing the claim was very easy and we did it late in the evening. We logged on the computer, they set the appointment and everything was good. In about 8 hours, the contractor contacted me. The service with the technician that came out seemed to be fine, except for the fact that he looked at it and told me that a certain part of it wasn’t covered and it was going to be an additional $300. The plumber said it wasn't covered and I was required to pay out-of-pocket. We had him fix it because it needed to be done. But we contacted American Home Shield and they said that they would make a note of it. Outside the extra charge, the experience was fine.

I have made over 20 calls to American Home Shield since June 2016... Every single call I have made has had a hold time ranging from 1 1/2 hours to as long as 3 hours and 15 minutes. Absolutely disgusting! When finally getting a live human on the phone, they have been rude and confrontational... which evidently, based on all my calls, seems to be an acceptable manner in which to conduct business. I have had somewhere between 6 and 10 visits to my house to repair the washing machine by three or four different companies. None have been able to repair my washing machine and I have been very patient going through their attempts with zero luck and no washing machine now for over a month.
At what point does American Home Shield feel they should honor their warranty? Do they continue to make repair attempts forever??? And if you try to talk to a manager you have to wait to have one call you back... they say within 24-48 hours... we are at 48 hours and no one has called to resolve this. I am just disgusted with the service I have received and per my contract no one has been able to repair this machine and a new one should be installed. As they advertise "If we can't get it repaired, we'll replace it with a new one. It's that easy." ABSOLUTELY FALSE ADVERTISING!!!

Very disappointed. I had to paid $75 for a problem that they can't fix. I had a plumbing leak from my toilet and they denied coverage because the cause of the leak is from the uneven installation of the floor. To my knowledge, when I purchased this policy under the contract they would cover improper installation, repairs, or modifications, undetectable Pre-Existing Conditions, Insufficiently Maintained Equipment, plumbing etc. However, they would cover and blamed it on the floor. That's really upsetting as real estate agent. I won't refer this company to anyone.

We contacted American Home Shield about our freezer leaking and filling up with ice and ice maker not working. Technician eventually came out (after a few phone calls), paid him $100 service fee and he said we needed to defrost for 4 days. Eventually we rented a fridge at the cost of $150 and let it defrost. 2 months later, same problem exists. I call AHS and let them know having the same issue. They tell me because 60 day warranty has passed, have to pay the $100 for a new technician. Rather than fight with AHS that this is the same issue and 60 days was not enough time, I agree to the new $100 service fee. I ask for the same tech, they tell me he is no longer available in the network.
New tech shows up, he opens up the top, not sure what he did (is done in a few minutes) and tells me the part is defective and needs an additional (upgraded part). Next day, we get notification that AHS will not cover the repair because it is an upgrade. I call them and ask to speak with a supervisor, they say one will contact me within 48 hours (this was 5 days ago and no call from supervisor). That same night, I notice there is now condensation forming in the fridge (this is brand new). Last night, our fridge was having cooling issues so turned it up all the way, today, no cooling and $300 + in spoiled food. Seemed odd that all of a sudden the fridge would be having issues so I looked around at the vendor they sent and they turned out to have mostly 1 star yelp reviews and also customers talking about similar issues of requiring an aftermarket part that AHS will not cover.
I spoke with another AHS rep this morning and again requested a supervisor. I also asked about how their vendors could have such poor yelp reviews, the response was, "We do not use online reviews as a reference only internal customer satisfaction." Here is the math (so far), $200 in service calls, $150 in fridge rental, $300 in spoiled food (not including my time) = $650 and still ice machine not working, ice all over my freezer and now fridge not working. I will update this post as things progress.

Called on Sunday for hot water leak to put in the request. Since I had shut off the water they did not expedite the request. The contractor that was suppose to do the job supposedly called at 4:11. There was no call according to my phone. I called at 6 to talk to their answering service. So I had to wait until the morning. Called in the morning and was told it would be Wednesday. So I called another plumber out myself to make sure it was indeed the hot water heater and we were safe. Gave me a high estimate so called AHS to see if they would work with me. The representative said, "give me 2 hours. If we can't find someone in 2 hours, you are allowed to use your own."
No call so I called back 3 hours and found out that was not so. They arranged another contractor to come out on Tuesday. This contractor diagnosed the problem as a bad thermal expansion tank caused the problem so it was our problem and at our expense. I have had 2 inspections of the unit. One after we moved in and the one on Monday and no one has mentioned anything about the thermal tank being installed improperly. Now I am going to have to spend more time fighting this battle. The hot water is 16 years old - way past its time. The contractor that did it did not even bother replacing the catch pan which is still damp from the leak. To make matters worse you can be sure to wait over an hour just to speak with a representative. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
Updated on 11/15/2016: After writing up my complaint, they did respond with, "Hello Sheree, I apologize for this situation that you are experiencing with your services. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that our customers may have. I will look into this matter and follow up with you soon. We use American Home Shield quite often, and our experience has been excellent. I do my claims either online or over the phone, and usually, within an hour or so, I'll get a call back from whoever they assigned it to. We set up an appointment, they come, then they fix it. The contractors were very efficient and courteous in every instance we’ve had with them. AHS is easy and effective. Sometimes, they even exceed our expectations.

I have paid for the service. Every time I had an issue that was under warranty, they send out a "technician" that does not know what they are doing. I (or you) would never hire any of the people they send out. They were all inexperienced people that cannot get business on their own. Then once they finally agree with you on the problem/issue, you have to fight with AHS to get them to fix it.
It is a SCAM. They take your money and fight you. They make it real easy to request service online, then your deductible is due. Anytime you call, you are on hold for an hour. Then you fight. Then you ask for a supervisor, then you wait again. Then they hang up on you. Then you call again and are told that a supervisor will call you back. 2 weeks later you call back in and they tell you they will not approve the repair. The technicians will tell you one thing at your property, then "call in" with a different diagnosis which favors AHS and gives them a "contract, small print, no coverage". So you are left with a contract that actually has no coverage. You then go get a real technician to do the job right.
My advise is DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!! They are not working for you. My advise is to save the money you pay for a contract and deductible and use it on a real technician that you locally can support. Because each time you call them to send someone out, you pay a deductible. Then the technician calls in and NO COVERAGE. You're out the deductible and still have to figure out how to fix it. I have had 3 technicians out for the same hot water heater. $225 later for deductibles it is still dumping rust and sediment into my water system. AHS says it just needs routine maintenance and it is not covered, even though ALL the technicians flushed the unit and it still dumps crap into my water supply.
See the picture of the "stuff" that the Hot Water Heater is dumping into my water supply. ALL 3 technicians told me to my face the unit needs replacement (the unit is 12 years old) and the last one put it in writing. AHS says they do not use the written diagnosis but the one that is called in. So you are screwed. DO NOT USE American Home Shield unless you like giving them money, fighting for months, then have to either spend the money on an attorney to fight or just get your stuff fixed yourself. Less headaches. You can use a local respected technician that will use good replacement parts with a warranty. American Home Shield is a major ripoff!

Our air conditioning unit stopped working and American Home Shield sent someone out to fix it. Submitting a claim to them was an easy process. I went online and placed the work order. The people called me either the next day or the day after that. It was quick. Their contractor was very professional and courteous. They called, set up an appointment date and they took care of the problem. They gave us an estimated time between 12:00 and 4:00 and they came out within that time frame. Our a/c is working now as it did before. They were good and they have been wonderful to me. I’ve always had a good experience whenever I have an issue and need to have something repaired. I’ve never had a problem with them or any of the contractors that they sent out. They’re awesome.

I had a big leak in the air conditioner and it had blown out into the carpet so I had to call American Home Shield. It took them so long to answer the phone. They had me on hold for 45 minutes. Overall, AHS is worth the money but I guess I should use the online thing next time so it's not frustrating.

I have been a loyal AHS customer for more than four years on two separate properties. Typically they have been responsive, helpful and reasonably fair with their coverage. However, buyers should beware. They DO NOT take responsibility for the follow-through of their vendors. For the past month I have been battling an ongoing A/C issue in the middle of the Texas summer (97+ degree weather) and still have no resolution. One year ago, they sent a subcontractor, Royal Air, to my house to diagnose a problem. It was a second opinion after the first vendor they sent out did an improper diagnosis. Royal Air told me we needed a new A/C condenser (outside unit) and coil and charged me $4,200 for a matching Trane 16 Seer, 5 ton system with a 10-year warranty.
One year later, my home isn't cooling and the new technician, South Belt AC (fabulous), was sent by AHS to assess. While addressing the burnt out motor, the Southbelt tech informed me that the coil was quite old (2011/2010) serial number and was not at the right capacity to match the throughput of the outside unit. He also took a picture of the coil and it was in fact NOT a Trane as agreed upon and paid for with Royal Air.
Because the A/C unit was still not functioning properly, South Belt called AHS and explained the dilemma. AHS denied the claim and refused to fix the problem saying the parts were under manufacturer's warranty. The warranty filed by Royal Air was INCORRECT and INVALID (they filed an air handler instead of coil and the property doesn't have an air handler on site). During this discussion in reviewing the account with AHS, we discovered that Royal Air did not follow any of the protocols of AHS and never filed the claim or turned in a diagnosis that required the new A/C (the $4,200 expense).
Fast forward one year and neither AHS nor Royal Air are owning up to their negligence or inability to resolve the vendor management issue that caused gross mishandling of my account and an out-of-pocket expense that was unnecessary. Every day for the past week, I have called AHS to get a resolution and have been placed on hold for up to 1 hour almost every time. I've asked to speak to a supervisor, and I've been told that I can call for a second opinion on their denied claim. HELLO... Do you not realize that Royal Air is going to deny the claim because they sold me a bill of goods??? Of course the vendor is going to deny the claim when they realize they are at fault.
My last attempt to speak to a manager has given me the excellent advice that I can send a formal complaint via US mail to the AHS corporate headquarters since apparently no one in the call center, contractor complaints, or authorization departments are capable of handling a mismanaged account or customer complaint of this magnitude. I've left my name and number five times asking repeatedly for a manager or supervisor to call me since one week ago... I'm still waiting. You have been warned. Do NOT use them. When the going gets tough, they give you indefinite amounts of hold music as a form of torture for wanting them to do their darn job!!!

Our garbage disposal stopped working and the sink was leaking so I went online to submit the claim with AHS and it's easy. Initially, they referred me to a company which I had to call three or four times, and I couldn't get people to answer to even get it scheduled. If I have to call three days in a row to get someone to schedule an appointment, I don't wanna deal with them. If they don't do a good job, then it's going to be a lot of getting in touch with them. I have also had problems with a couple of vendors that AHS selected because I had trouble with the representative to switch me to someone else. So my claim was assigned to another company. But the people that I ultimately ended up with did fine work and since the repair, I haven't had any issues with the garbage disposal and sink.

I can submit online but they still accommodate me because I don't wanna deal with the computer and I'd rather talk to a human body so I know it's been done, received, and retrieved. My recent claim was when the top of our washer lid needed to be replaced. It started to crack and then it just cracked on its own all the way. Sears came out and that didn’t go too well. They came in, saw they needed to order a part, left, took my deductible check, supposedly ordered the part and I never heard back from them in a week and a half. After a week and a half, I called and they said that they would send someone else back out, but they had not ordered the part. So they had to come back out a second time, didn’t have the part, had to order the part, and then came out a third time and put the part in. But the American Home Shield rep was very efficient and professional. They did what they were supposed to and I'm satisfied with what I paid for.

It was easy to get through American Home Shield and submit a claim for my air conditioner, but whoever they tried to get to help me out took a while to do it. I am retired and I live in Louisiana, so the house gets hot and I can't wait a week. I've been with them for five years and I had a little problem with a door opener for the garage a couple of years ago and they were able to take care of it the next day. That could wait a week, but not the air-conditioner. The people they used were not even from Louisiana. They do have franchises near the town I live in, but their main office is in Kentucky and that's who it goes to. I had to call Kentucky to see what's going on. This franchise dealer put me as number one, but they want to put me off for a week. So then I called AHS back and told them what the deal was, so they found somebody within the area who took care of it the next day.

I had good customer service with American Home Shield. It was just the service provider that they had selected that I wasn’t happy with because they had to come back and do something else. I had a microwave and a refrigerator issue. Their contractor came out to repair the refrigerator. It worked for a few minutes and they had to come back out. They did come back immediately but it’s still not working correctly. But I let that go.
They called another person to come out and fix the microwave after the same person that fixed the refrigerator didn't do it right. The second person that came out said it couldn’t be repaired, so he reported it back to American Home Shield. American Home Shield called and told me that the microwave can’t be repaired according to the serviceman and that they would give me another one which made me extremely happy. So American Home Shield has been excellent, and I’ve had them now for years. I would recommend them to anyone, but I’d tell them to be careful about the service providers that they want to send.

I needed my dryer to be repaired. I filed a claim to AHS over the phone and it's much easier through that. The customer service reps were good. I like them because if I don’t have my contract on hand, I can just give them my name and whatever question I have and then they can find it right away. The number of the contractor was given to me and when I called them, a gal asked me a few questions which were really easy, and she was able to take care of an issue. Instead of sending someone out, she knew what was wrong. She ordered the parts so when a guy comes out, he has brought the needed part to fixed whatever needs to be repaired. I think that was really good because it was about time management. They didn’t have to send the guy out, see the part, write it down, go back, and then come back. Since the repair, my dryer has been working fine.
I've had AHS for probably 20 years. I discontinued them a few years back because I had an issue with an air conditioning on a rental I had and at that time they weren't doing so good. Now, I like the idea that I can set up what I need to be repaired and at the same time it's a different price. Before, there were just certain blocks and that’s it but now, I can also request what I need to be repaired and omit what I don’t need, and I like it.

I asked an expert who said the most we would need is 5 or 6 lbs. I called American Home Shield to see the alternatives, but they offered me nothing but wait for a call with the offer. I would have to wait days because they are working on the 6th of September on the same kind of deals. By then we will be fried by the heat. What a poor customer service. AHS has recently declared that it will only pay $10 towards the cost of air conditioning Freon and that the customer is responsible for the rest. Fine, except that AHS chooses the contractor who, in turn, outrageously OVERCHARGES the customer for the Freon, and the customer has no control over that. It is clear that the relatively high charges for Freon by the contractor are intended to cover for service also, which would have been fine if there was no warranty and the contractor was hired by the customer. It is clear that AHS has come up with this scheme to "share" the cost of service with the customer.
In my specific case, the technician claimed that the AC needed some Freon and quoted me a price per pound. I called a few other companies and the price varied from 50% to 60% of what he quoted me. Some of these companies stated that there would be a service call fee added to the cost of Freon, so at the end of the day the AHS contractor and the outside company cost about the same. Is this fine? Of course not because it means that AHS has not honored its warranty obligated and has passed the service cost to me under the false charge of Freon.

The people who installed my air-conditioning a couple of years ago didn’t finish the job. I didn’t realize it until I had a home inspection after that heavy rain we had in April. They were supposed to put insulation on the pipes and they didn’t. When the insurance inspector came out and was looking at the roof, he said we needed to get them back out here to do that because that makes moisture. In the summertime, it sweats and drops. So American Home Shield got them and they came back out, and finished their job with no charge to me. No hassle and I appreciated that.
However, I keep getting a bill from AHS for that service. When I found their Consumer Affairs Department and told them about it, they took care of it. I do like having AHS. I’ve had them for a number of years and I had no problem submitting a claim. Out of all the years that I’ve had them out here for a number of things, there’s only one time I had a problem with somebody and they were very rude. I told AHS about them and they never sent those people out again.

Sometimes they had to order a part, but generally the period of time involved in that was not too long. There were one or two occasions when I've talked to them on the phone where it turned out it wasn't covered under the contract so I was a little bit irritated about that. However, the last time they were here, they said they were gonna need a part, left and then came back with the part. I would have liked for them to have said that they were leaving rather than they're gonna need a part, and when I look around, they’re gone. But I figured they were coming back. I actually recommend them all the time because I've had a fine experience with them.

I recently had a leak in our bathroom and filed a claim for it. The process of submitting a claim is pretty good but it's not very specific. Some of the options that you have to select online aren’t very clear or some of them are too vague. I'm sure that it was designed that way to apply to different people who have different plans, but that’s not very helpful when you have a very specific issue. For example, there was a leak under the toilet on the upstairs and then there was a leak in the basement, but it wasn’t clear if that was going to end up being a plumbing issue or not. What if they have to get behind the wall? Wouldn't that be a structural issue and wouldn't that be left to somebody else?
On the website, I've had issues accessing my specific plans. For some reason, it won't pull my plan very easily. So in case I need to cross-reference what would be available for me to submit a claim for, I'm not easily able to do that. I'm also skeptical that the cost that I'm spending is worth the services that I'm receiving. For example, the plumbing service that was recently done didn’t take the guy too long. The service fee was $75. It would've cost me $100 to fix if I've gone through some kind of plumber. So that’s probably cheaper but whenever you factor in that I have to pay a yearly fee for the plan, I'm not sure that it's worth it.
Now, the peace of mind is worth something and if something big does break, that’s why I have continued to do it but I'm not sure if the value is worth all the time. Although I will admit that letting somebody else take care of who an appropriate service technician would be and service company would be is easier than me having to discover one. So in general, it's worth the money for peace of mind, if nothing else.

When I called AHS to submit a claim for my microwave, the built-in one over the stove, they told me that it wasn't covered. So I cancelled my membership and then out of the blue, they called and told me they were going to send someone out because they do cover it. Then one time, I called and it took them forever to send somebody out. I had to call and remind them that someone was supposed to be coming out. I wouldn't recommend my friends to them especially that I found a cheaper one because we all want to save money.

I had an air conditioning unit repaired recently. I filed the claim online and it was pretty quick. However, it took AHS almost two weeks to get somebody out because they said it was summer. It was at the height of the heating season when my air conditioning upstairs went out. But everything was fine after that. The contractors fixed whatever they had to fix, which was great. I don't have an issue with AHS per se but I do wish the response time would be a little faster. When they have a lot of calls, they don't answer the phone and it just rings and rings.

When we moved in, we knew that we're going to have two claims. It was the water heater and the dishwasher. We called AHS about the water heater first. The man that was sent came pretty soon after AHS notified me. We had a 50-gallon water heater in a little bitty space. He would have to do some tearing out of a wall to get it in there. But he measured that a 40-gallon would go and get in there just well. So he filled out his report and sent it to AHS.
AHS then got in touch with me and said that they would give me the money instead of getting the water heater and get a plumber to come out here and install it. I was satisfied with the prices they gave me. It covered most of the expense buying and putting in the water heater. I was pleased with that. When the inspector inspected this place, he said they were all right. But what happened was, when he got the water hot, the burner would go out. And that was the problem. He had to light it every time.
And then the dishwasher was worn out and needed parts. When the parts were ordered, they didn't make them anymore. AHS was notified and then gave me the choice of the unit and see if I was satisfied with it. I said, “Yes, I was.” Then, it was delivered. The people that delivered it couldn't install it because it had a valve on it that was stuck, and they don't replace valves. AHS had to send out a plumber to fix that valve and that was done. Of course, I knew that I was going to have to pay for the man that came out to do those things. Later on, AHS sent a guy after they installed it and that was free. It's been working ever since. I was really happy about the whole situation.
I've had AHS ever since I've been in Texas on the first home that we had. The only thing is when I try to get a hold of somebody on the phone, I go through their system and sometimes I was on the phone for two hours. This is the point that I didn't like about the whole thing. But once we got a hold of them, everything was alright.

I have my real estate deals and I use American Home Shield on them. I have a personal policy with them as well. There was no trouble submitting a claim. Royal Air is an excellent company and I was using them before I even had American Home Shield. The old R-22 systems are no longer made and I had the older system. The coil was leaking and it can be repaired but when you repair the system, you have to have a bunch of Freon put in. American Home Shield only pays $10 a pound for Freon. If I had it done, it would’ve cost me maybe $1300. I got a whole new system, which wound up costing me $6300, but American Home Shield only gave me $600 credit toward it, which is way off because the new coil is well over $1000. The credit that American Home Shield gave me against the new system was a little short. They’re not giving a legitimate credit toward a new system versus getting the old system fixed.

This man came out and knocked over the Radon machine and it was unplugged for a while and my kids who live in the basement got sick. It was in the furnace room so I was aware this is what happened and one of my kids checked to see what was going on.
Then the technician Josh came out in June for a refrigerator that doesn’t work then left saying he would order a part. I've called twice and they said the part hasn’t come in. Then they haven’t contacted me and I'm still waiting on the person who said she’d call me back when she found out why the part hadn’t come in. However, they were the ones who fixed the dishwasher a year or so ago and it's fine. Previously, I didn’t read the information well enough and I let somebody put a new garbage disposal in instead of calling American Home Shield, and so I had to pay for the garbage disposal and for the person who put it in, and not realize it. I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our pool pump, and it was very easy. The contractor they sent was more than professional and courteous. He did some work on my pool before, so he was a known individual. I was very happy with him. My frustration was with getting approval for the replacement. The challenge was that they’ve cut their staff who helps approve replacement parts for their suppliers, and it took over two weeks to get the part approved. In fact, the supplier purchased the part and installed it without approval, hoping that he would get approval since their ability to approve parts was so abysmal. He knew it was more important to keep me happy than it was to take care of the company. I found out eventually that they approved it, but that was at least another two weeks. It took them a month to approve to repair the parts, and I was very unhappy about it.
But the pool has been running great since the repair. I just hope that if I have a major appliance goes out, it’s not going to take that long to get an approval for a part or a replacement. They’ve done several repairs for us, but this is the first time we encountered this issue, and this is the first repair I had this calendar year. I don’t know if this is just a one-off or if it's going to be a long-term issue. If it is, then I’m certainly going to have to find someone else to take care of this for me.

Our outside air conditioner unit was squealing. At first, the noise went on and off, but then it became constant. So I called American Home Shield to file the claim. I’ve done online filing before and found that it can be problematic, so I called and the rep set up my claim. Then the guy came out and he was really nice. He took a look at the AC and found that the motor that ran the fan needed to be replaced. Within a couple of days, he came back out to put the motor in. He knew what he was doing and he worked with what he had. However, I made the mistake of not looking at his work before he left. Because the unit ran really loud, there was a lot of vibration. I looked at it and was shocked to see the appearance of the fix. There were some noticeable things that didn’t look too good.
There were two screws that were missing out of the top. The motor weighed maybe 25 pounds and it hanged upside down. The guy took the lid off, turned it upside down and put the motor on top where the holes were. When he put it back up, the threaded screws that came out of the motor were longer than the motor that they took out. They stuck up about an inch.
There were four nuts that went over those four threaded screws on the original motor. The technician reused those parts which was not a problem except for the fact that the unit was attached to the lid with two washers which were the same and having a very small bolt attached. The third threaded screw which was some thing that he put the small bolt over, threaded onto the threaded screw. The fourth one was a different type and it was not a washer, either. I got four nuts in a space of an inch and I’ve got four little bolts that hold the motor up and it’s not going to last very long.
I called the owner up and told him that it didn't look too good and emailed over the pictures of it. It took him about two or three days to get back to me. His explanation was that this was a replacement motor and it didn't have the same hardware as the original motor. But if I were to have someone over, it would look like the person who did it didn’t know what he was doing, although I know the one who came did. So I’m not happy. I’ve got weights on top of the AC now to keep the vibration noise down. It was loud enough to where my neighbor said something to me. The owner said he would send somebody back out to look at it with the explanation that this was a different motor and the configuration was different in terms of the nuts.
My wife is the one that wants to keep AHS but I want to ditch them. This year, we had a previous claim and that was a real issue. It had to do with our washing machine that was not draining. I called AHS up and told them about it. It took five days for a guy to come out. We have a utility room where the washer and dryer are. When the service guy came out, he pulled the washing machine out. He didn’t disconnect it and he was having to squeeze behind there. He marked up the paint on the walls, which was something I called out to him. But that’s not what I’m upset about so much.
He did what he had to, looked underneath there and then left. He didn't say anything to us. I didn't hear back from him so I called and I found out that the claim was going to be denied coverage because lint from our dryer clogged up the washing machine. We got into a detailed discussion and found that the reason was because he saw some lint on the tile floor behind the washing machine and the dryer.
The dryer had a vent that went into the wall through an aluminum funnel or flexed tubing. Six weeks before that, I dropped something off where the sink was which was next to the dryer on the floor. I scooted the dryer over slightly to retrieve whatever I had dropped and in doing so, it skewed probably the vent connection on the wall, which may have thrown some lint out. After they denied the coverage, I pulled the washing machine out. I could see the lint on the tile floor, but how does lint get absorbed into a washing machine from the external? The washing machine runs off water and it drains into a pipe. The dryer has nothing to do with it.
So I called American Home Shield and went through a more detailed explanation and asked them how a dryer can put a stoppage to a washing machine as they were not connected. What it was was the pump went out. They told me to reach out to the contractor so I did. That’s where I got the story about the lint and the reason why it wasn’t done. I asked AHS to give me something in writing to state what was wrong and why the claim was denied but they didn't have anything. They read what was on the transcript that somebody took down on what the contractor said was the problem. It was all verbal from the contractor and American Home Shield. The yellow carbon copy that the guy had left me was unreadable too and I told them that. I called AHS numerous times and I even talked to a supervisor who agreed with me. But they didn't overwrite their contractors.
I also brought up the scuffs on the wall but they never called me back on that. After about a couple of weeks, I realized that they were not going to pay us. So I said that the thing needed to get fixed. It was a motor replacement. When the pump motor was pulled out, I could look at it. It was an impeller and there was no lint on it at all. That came off its track and the thing was jammed. It was a pump failure. I could buy that pump online from Amazon for $59 but AHS wanted $500 to fix it so that was a gouge there. I got tired of talking to them. This was going on almost a month that we didn't have a washing machine.
At the same time, our dishwasher had a little leak and we had some little moisture coming out the bottom of it. We can do up to two or three items with the same type of plumbing so I had added that to the claim. When the guy was out here, he took a quick look at that. But we were going on to six weeks and I heard nothing on the dishwasher. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that the contractors were waiting on a pump. But when I called the contractors, they told me that American Home Shield supplies the pump and they didn't have it yet.
Within about a week, they got two guys to come out and they did something under the sink. It was the drain that went into the disposal from the dishwasher and it sat next to the sink. They disconnected that for whatever reason and then they replaced the pump motor at the bottom of the dishwasher. They were there for about an hour and a half. However, they didn’t have the right part and they had to come back. These guys were okay, though, and they came back pretty quickly. They fixed it all and a guy had cycled the dishwasher with the door open and showed me that the pump was working. But that was about a minute’s worth of it operating. After they left, I turned the dishwasher on to finish the cycle and water was pouring out of the bottom. So I called them back up and told them what happened.
They came back over, looked at it again and there was a seal that was on the door that one of them pushed back in with his thumb. It looked liked it was broken to me. He said that was the problem and left. I called the contractor and told him what happened. I told him that I was not happy and that the seal should be replaced. He said he would call that in and let AHS know, but he didn’t. I never heard back from them at all on that seal. In the meantime, when they went under the sink and they pulled the hose off, they didn’t put that on very well. I had water coming out underneath the sink when that thing was running also.
Anyway, the dishwasher’s working now and I had to fix the washing machine too. American Home Shield has referred me to that contractor every time but the contractor was useless. I was supposed to have their top technician as that was what I was told. Their head guy was supposed to call me back and explain to me how lint from a dryer would stop up a washing machine but I never got a callback. That’s when I told my wife to forget about AHS.
Another issue was when a switch on the pool equipment blew. The pump wouldn’t come on. The first guy who came out looked at everything and said that we had an overloaded circuit. He wanted $3500 to replace the panel. But about five months before that, I had put the same type of call in, about my pump not coming on, and when one of their subcontractors came, he messed with the fuse box. He put in an undersized fuse and that caused the overloading of the circuit. The second guy who came to check the pump said he hated American Home Shield. He went on and on about all the different things. In the end, he fixed the problem with the pump for $125. So the first guy was gouging me for $3500.
The deal with the electrical thing or the wrong fuse cost me $300 and something. I had a call from AHS' corporate people over that one. I had to explain that the electrician has to have a state license and the people who would come out have to be journeymen. After about a half a dozen phone calls with their normal people, I got a call from corporate and the gal understood exactly what I was talking about. She’s looked at the record and found what the issue was. Because it was their repair guy's error, she reimbursed me the whole $300 and something. So that issue was resolved in a satisfactory manner.
I also explained to her that they had a "denial department". If you get denied something, you talk to this group of people who are useless. All they do is quote what the technician or the contractor had said or what somebody had written down. The contractor doesn’t give them anything in writing about the problem. They call them up on the phone and somebody writes down what the guy said. They may have written something down wrong.
I also happened to ask a guy I do business with who he had for his home warranty. He told me he used to have American Home Shield. When I asked why, he said that it was because everything was not fixed well. I also asked my insurance guy the same thing. He said he used to have American Home Shield too, but he said that when the guys came out, they did the minimum to fix something. It was a temporary fix. Then I had somebody else recommend another company.
We bought the house 16 years ago and we retained AHS with the previous people there. Five years ago, American Home Shield was a different company and then they changed something. Their scheme is now different than it was. I’m seeing shoddy work from their contractors the last several times and I just got lucky on one or two calls that were not problematic. I’ve told AHS a tremendous amount of information about my dissatisfaction. The issue is when the customer calls and explains or asks questions about a denial, the information being returned back, which in my case, is insufficient. They’re self-serving in the sense that corporate doesn’t get the feedback from their people about how a customer is unhappy about a denial. If they don’t contact me, to me that would mean that they don't care. To be honest, I’d dump them tomorrow.

I had a pool issue so I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. AHS then contacted the pool company, then the pool company contacted me within a couple of days. It was in the beginning of the summer wherein they were really busy, but they said they're on their way. It's a really good pool company which I could follow exactly where they were location-wise, how close they were to the house, so I could make sure that I was there. Then their guy looked at the pump, said he knew what the problem was and replaced the capacitor. I signed off on it and he left. It was perfect. The pool is completely working now.
The only issue I had was when I had a problem with the air conditioner. It wasn't blowing cold enough so a contractor came out and put Freon in. When he left, the air conditioner had an issue again. So he came out again, did something and the Freon seemed to start kicking in as it's been cooling off. But on Friday, the air conditioner stopped working again so I filed a third claim. It was frustrating because when I called AHS that day, I wanted a different company to come out because I felt like the guy didn't know what was going on or he wasn't trying hard enough to figure out what it was.
We spent the weekend not very pleasantly, then on Monday he came back out and could tell I was getting concerned as it was a hundred-something weather, so he spent a longer time checking it that day and then said there may be a valve or some spot that was shut. The air conditioner never shut off so our electricity bill could be a hundred plus dollars, but other than that, we were happy with all the other contractors that came out that's why we renewed our policy with AHS. They know that they're having to uphold their end for AHS. I'd recommend AHS. Together with their contractors, they have saved us a lot of money.

AHS has a very poor communication system. If you need anything more than a common repair, you may need to call and talk with a rep. The summer hold time is usually 2 to 3 HOURS. The authorized contractors may refuse a repair if it will require a special authorization. Even then AHS will fight to not pay the bill. My AC unit needs the evaporator coil replaced. The replacement model is a different dimension and requires removing and reinstalling the whole furnace. AHS refuses to pay for the furnace removal and replacement because it requires some modifications. The contract hides this under the exclusions G. 4. b. Costs of construction, carpentry, or other modifications necessary to remove, relocate, or install equipment. In my case, this cost is $900 that they want me to pay.
When the first company declined to do the repair, I spent 5 hours on hold (hung up on when I finally got through the first time after 2.5 hours) to get a new company assigned. That company also refused to bid the repair. Then another hour on hold to get authorization for an outside company to come out and disassemble the system to bid the proper repair and replacement of parts and equipment. One company told me that many authorized companies refuse to do repairs that require special authorizations because it takes so long to get an authorization.

This is not a first or second time experience, but an every time experience. They claim to warranty plumbing and A/C, however they do not cover the work it takes to get to these areas. I would not mind if the vendor they used was not extremely overpriced. I should not have to pay hundreds of dollars for sheet rock work to get a 11 dollar pipe fixed. I will not be extending my contract. GOODBYE AHS.

It was the very first hot spell of the season and everybody's air conditioners went out that weekend, including mine. I filed a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, which was very easy to do. The rep was courteous, took my information, and told me who they would be contacting and how long it would approximately be before they got in contact with me. The technician got here as quickly as possible and repaired my air conditioner once he got here. He was very courteous and explained to me what he was doing. Since the repair, the performance of our AC unit has been perfect and it has been cooler in my house.

When I call on the telephone to submit a claim to AHS, I wait for a very long time. So the last time, I went online and it went pretty much quicker. The technicians that we've had have been great. The only thing we weren't real happy with AHS was when we had some ductwork problem. In the policy, it says "ductwork" but when I had different people out here to look at it, AHS declined very quickly that our policy did not cover ductwork. But that was the only time that we weren't real pleased with them and we'd still recommend them.

Our air conditioner wasn't working correctly and it was 97 degrees out so I filed a claim with American Home Shield both online and over the phone. Unfortunately, they don't have emergency calls on the weekends, so I had to wait till Monday. But the technician who came here was very nice. He got the call on Monday, although it was Wednesday before he got out. It was just a switch that caused the problem with the AC, and he fixed it in half an hour. The AC works and I'm thankful. But AHS is not great because they said, "We're sorry it's 97 degrees out, but we don't work on the weekend."

We have two air conditioners in the bedroom, and we noticed that one unit was not cooling. We called American Home Shield and then the contractor called us. It was Thursday and they said they were booked. They couldn't come till about Monday or Tuesday. Luckily on a Friday afternoon at about 4:30, they called because they were on a call in McAllen and they stopped by here and fixed the problem.

We had a power outage when we were out of town. When we got back in town, we had hot water. Two days later, we had none. We called and American Home Shield scheduled us immediately. The claims rep was very helpful while the vendor was courteous and knowledgeable. Everything went fine until the fact that it came down to we were responsible for that component in our hot water tank. When the vendor came and checked it, he said that the circuit was apparently scorched, so that was not covered under warranty. I mentioned that we had been out of town and we received a text from my energy company saying that our power was out but it came back on. He put two and two together and said it must've come from the fact that the power was out, came back on and burned the circuit up.
We got the warranty in order to protect our appliances in case fixing beyond our control happens and so that was beyond our control. Yet we still have to pay for the unit, the part and everything else, and I'm not happy with that at all. I said if that circuit board is part of the hot water tank, it should be covered. But they said that power surge is not covered. What is the use of having a home warranty then? However, it has been working so far, but I'm a little perturbed about the wording in our contract concerning that particular incident.

I've been with American Home Shield for several years and I also have another property owned with American Home Shield. There were no issues about communication, it's just that I have been dealing with bad products and the people assigned, too. I'd file a claim at night and I'd call them the very next day. They told me they had it and that they were gonna send someone out and they did. So it was cleared up within two or three days of my initial contact.
This particular claim was with my outside pool. My son thought that the pump was playing out. The water line in the pool pump itself required a lot of water. I submitted the claim online and I followed it up with a call because I have had communications and dealings with the people that AHS appoint to repair the pool. There are two branches and I used the Bessemer branch, which is in Alabama. They came within the same day. The gentleman repaired it and did it expeditiously. My pool is back up and running, so I'm happy with it. They also put in a conventional oven with a microwave for me a couple of months back because my conventional oven had played out, and I was very pleased with that. They were prompt so I don’t have any problems with them. Had I not been, I would not be still with their business.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield regarding my air conditioner. Submitting a claim was really easy. You could either call them in or you can go online, which is something I prefer to do, and submit it. Once submitted, someone will call you back right away. It's not an all-day thing where you're waiting for somebody to look at it and call you back. They send you an email letting you know that they got your request and that depends on what time you put in the claim. Before the day is over, someone will be calling you to set up an appointment to come out.
The guy that came out to see about my air conditioner was really pleasant and took care of the problem. However, I still had another problem and had to call a second and third time to get somebody come out. The second guy who came didn't really explain what he did. But the last guy that came out had the experience, fixed the problem and I hadn't had to call him back since. One neat thing about AHS is they sends out emails to me to let me know how to lower my bill, what I should do, different things to help me out around my home to keep things from breaking down or I can be informed on what to look for. I like that. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

The water line in the refrigerator's freezer was broken. AHS sent an individual out who was not trained, not certified on the product, and couldn't fix it after the second trip. What I’m concerned about is that I'm paying for somebody who is capable of resolving an issue in its entirety. It appears as if the first person is just able to fix the very simplest of things, which I don't think is the way I want to approach a problem. I like somebody to come out and fix an issue the first time. The next time I'll place a call, the first thing I'm going to ask is if the person is capable of resolving the problem or just identifying it. I'll make sure that it's done correctly.
But ultimately, AHS tracked down an organization that was capable of addressing and resolving the problem. I'm very happy with American Express Appliance Services. They were very knowledgeable and went the extra mile. I can't say enough about how good a job they did. They called us ahead of time, set up an appointment, and they arrived on time. They addressed the problem and had to return to get a part because it was an entire unit. The line from the spigot to the refrigerator was plastic and the technician’s recommendation is for it to be changed. He went ahead and changed that with no cost to us. It was a great idea and very thoughtful on their part. Every time I would need to call in the future, I will be requesting them. My freezer has been fine and I haven't had any issues. I'm satisfied that the job got done. I will be more cautious in the future.

I did my claim over the phone and the representative was nice and the technician too. He was presentable, showed up on time and tried his best to do the job. The frustrating part I guess is that he couldn't get it resolved, so he had to come back another day and then come back another and not be able to do it.

Submitting a claim is very easy. Either the contractor gets it fixed or if they leave and then I have a problem with the same item, they come back. They don’t charge me again, but I have always had a resolution to my problem. Last time the motor of my garage door started making terrible noises, but it stopped when it was halfway up; it would neither go up nor down. Apparently, there was a gear that’s tripped in there. I called American Home Shield, they sent someone out and they were able to repair it. It works perfectly.
However, there’s a 24-hour wait. If it’s a real emergency, they don’t deal with that. For instance, there are old people in the house and they’re gonna die if they don’t get some help. That’s not gonna happen because it can take 48 hours for the vendor to make the call. And it can take 24 hours for the vendor to set up the appointment, so that's three business days.
Overall American Home Shield takes care of claims immediately and I’m very satisfied with them. I've probably sold more American Home Shield into their service. I’m in insurance and I run into people that ask questions and I tell them if they don’t have American Home Shield, they’re missing out on something that’s important. It’s a wonderful service and I will never be without it.

We've been really happy with them and we've been using them for almost 20 years now.
My most recent claim was on my refrigerator. American Home Shield tried to get a part with GE for over eight weeks. And so they called and said that they were going to replace the refrigerator because they couldn’t get the parts for another couple of months from GE. I've been quite happy with it. I had a claim for the same fridge but American Home Shield had to send two different people for it. First one was Sears and there was a wait for them to come. The first person who was supposed to come had a family emergency so he couldn't make it on the scheduled day which was a Thursday. Then on Friday, somebody came but when he realized that it was the second fridge, he said that he can't look at it and that it would be covered by another technician. So the next technician came on Monday and he was really nice but he said that since it's an old fridge, he didn't know if he could repair it. However, he said that he might be able to do it but it needed a bunch of parts.
So I'm still waiting to hear back from American Home Shield on when he could come out again, when the parts are in or what we're going to do and it's been a week-and-a-half since I filed the claim. We had to wait and it's been a disaster but it's not so bad. It's the second fridge that we have so it's an inconvenience. We've used American Home Shield for quite some time. We have an older home and for the most part we're pretty happy with the service. We've had the them for at least seven or eight years and if we weren't happy we wouldn't still be with them.

I called him about it and also told him that the door's not closing right and it's really stiff. He said he'll look at it when he comes to pick up his things. He came to pick up his things but he never knocked on the door. So then I had another guy come and he got it fixed. It would work for about a week and then go out again. It was just a mess. Most of the technicians are pretty good though - three out of four. It’s just that service guy that we didn’t like too much. Most of the claims reps are very friendly, too. Filing a claim worked pretty easy over the phone except that I was being put on hold a while. The second one was much better, though.
The last time, I had a little issue with an air conditioning unit that went out about three weeks ago or so and it was 98 degrees. Nobody called me from American Home Shield or from a repair place until three days later. By that point, I had already called my own guy who did my regular tune-up and he came over and fixed it for me. It was a gosh darn thing because I couldn’t stay in this house as I couldn’t stand it. I was very unhappy with this experience with American Home Shield.
Depending on the nature of the type of product that one has protected and depending on the weather, service needs to be gotten in a more timely manner. If I lived up north and my furnace went out, I'd want someone there right away. If I live down here and my AC goes out when it's 98 degrees, I want someone here right now. When I called my regular repair people, they were here on 45 minutes. It turned out it was a coil that had burned, and fortunately, they were able to repair it. However, it took four, five hours to get my house back to temp because it took me a while to realize that my house was getting hotter and hotter. At this point, I have a bad taste in my mouth as a result of this last experience.

It was in June when my Bosch washing machine leaked all over my laundry room and a young man came out from Associated Alliance but couldn’t duplicate the leak at that time. He reported back to American Home Shield and I paid my $75, which is the norm when they come out. It was left that I would monitor the machine and get back to American Home Shield if things didn’t get better. The machine leaked again as soon as I put laundry in it. Associated Alliance is not taking any more appointments for American Home Shield because, apparently, American Home Shield has not been keeping up to date with their payments to the company. So I'm left with having to go directly to the company and pay for it myself because I've been now two months without a washing machine and I can't go much longer. It is a rather major issue not having a laundry machine in this weather.
I'm hoping that American Home Shield will do something about it eventually because Bosch mechanics are very limited where I live and it's just this one company involved. The first time I tried to contact them for this incident, I was 30-something in the queue. I wasn’t going to wait that long, so I tried to do a web chat and that was a 30-minute wait. So I waited for a more obscure time of the day when fewer people would be trying to get ahold of them ‘cause I didn’t want to sit for half an hour or 45 minutes on hold waiting to place my claim. That part is very frustrating and that’s very normal for them.

I called American Home Shield on Aug 19, 2016 as I'm complaining of a water leak from my bathroom down to the ceiling of my ground floor. They sent a contractor from the company, Mr. Rooter Plumbing, and a guy named "Saint" went to inspect where the leak was from, and he told me, AHS (American Home Shield) is not allowing him to do the work because he said, he cannot see any leakage at the time he went to the house. He advised me to take a picture when it's leaking again. That was Friday. Saturday morning, I called them and I told them I have the picture and begged them to send someone to help me fix my leak. No action. Sunday morning, I called them again, and this time they said they're tied up and promised me somebody will check the leak on Monday, August 22. They sent someone, but the guy said, the leak was from the A/C, not piping.
This was concluded without opening the ceiling to check where the leak was coming from, so they reported to AHS to send an A/C guy instead to check the leak. The A/C guy came from Royal Air that was dispatched by AHS the next day, and he told me that it was the piping/plumbing, not the A/C, again without opening the ceiling. AHS, sent the new plumber, named, The Plumber LLC, since I told AHS, that I don't want to waste another day with Mr. Rooter. The Plumber LLC told me that I need a carpenter to open up the ceiling to check the leak, since he's suspecting it's coming from the wax gasket of the toilet. To make the story short, these three companies, Mr. Rooter, Royal Air, The Plumber LLC, did not do any work, were useless because they still left me with my water leak.

We have a gas leak. No hot water, no heat. Called them. Took them 2 days to have someone come look at it. When someone finally got here the person said he is unqualified for this job. Had to wait 2 more days for them to tell me to find our own plumber. Found our own plumber - he called them with a quote. I called several times to figure out what was going on and couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. A lady finally called us saying it wasn't covered and she would call me right back... Never heard from her. I called back the next day and then they told me it was covered.
So at this point I don't know what the heck is going on and neither do they. I asked the girl if there was a manager I could talk to about our experience and she said "No but I can give you a number to call." Well I called the number and it was the number to donate to St. Judes Hospital! That is so rude and so unprofessional and I was already frustrated at that point. Days later I finally heard from someone saying they are sending out a check.
Every time I called you could barely understand what they were saying because of their slanged unprofessional dialect. They told me they would put us on a emergency list since we have no gas. But believe me they did not treat it like an emergency. Thank God it is summer because if this was in the Winter we would be freezing right now! It has been 2 weeks and our gas is not fixed!!! 2 weeks of boiling hot water to bathe! Insurance companies are supposed to come to your rescue when bad things happen not make them worse. It is absolutely pathetic the way this has been handled. We will most definitely be switching insurance companies when this is all over and I recommend everyone to think twice when choosing them as your home warranty source.

American Home Shield recently dealt with my air conditioner which quit drawing out cold air. I submitted the claim online and that was very easy. All I did was put in my address and picked which item has gone out on me. Then I got an email from AHS telling me who the contractor was and that they should be notifying me. AHS also gave me the contractor's phone number. I called three times but it wasn’t AHS that was the problem. It was the contractor.
It happened on a weekend but I didn’t wait for the contractor to call me so I called them on a Monday morning. The first tech that came out didn’t know what he was doing. And it cost me an extra $250 because he said that my air conditioning needed cleaning that’s not covered under my contract. So I went ahead and paid the $250 plus. About two weeks later, the AC unit went out again and the same contractor came back out the next day, on a Saturday. Their tech said “Oh, it just needed a spritz of freon” and that's what he did. Then the AC unit went out again on my son’s graduation party.
The only problem I have with American Home Shield is they only have two contractors that work in the whole Louisville, Kentucky area. I have an elderly mother who lives with me, and the temperatures were about 90 degrees that weekend. So I requested for an emergency but they could not find either their contractors to come out. They tried to find an independent contractor and all of them were supposedly busy and couldn’t make it until Monday.
We called somebody local that same day and they came out but it cost me $600. They said that the original company had wired the air conditioner wrong and it blew a transformer in there, aside from a whole multitude of things. The initial contractor also didn’t clean it properly like they said they did. The local contractor also told me that there were some other issues, but it was good enough to last us until we got back with AHS. AHS then sent out the other contractor that covers our area and he was really good. He said we needed a new cooling unit and some other things. AHS paid for those and we had him put it in but it did cost us about $150.
The AC unit has been fixed but I still haven’t heard from them about the $600 they told me I could possibly be reimbursed for. And that was back in May. That’s partly my fault because I need to call them. I have their customer service number but I have to sit on line forever sometimes. We have had other issues, and they’ve been great though. We’ve had them for plumbers and when a motor went out on our pool filter. I have no quarrels with them other than they have a terrible contractor for air conditioners.

I sent American Home Shield an email on Tuesday afternoon and Comfort First came on Thursday afternoon. I like the guy Ryan. He knows what he's doing and does a good job. In 15 minutes he told me the circuit board is bad and that it isn't communicating with the heat pump. A part was ordered the same Thursday afternoon and I told them I will pay next-day shipping to get some AC back on in the house, but they said they don't do that. So it went on and finally the guy called early this afternoon to say they'd be out tomorrow between 10:00 and 3:00. It's been over a week with no AC and it doesn't make me too happy.
Comfort First does a good job for me and most of their people are really good. I like them as long as I get the same guy. I’ve had three or four good guys, but they all seem to leave. It’s like, I get a good guy and then a new guy comes out the next time. Why can’t I just have the same guy come? Then I had one guy who came years ago three times to fix the same problem, and thank Lord he is no longer with them.

American Home Shield was efficient, polite and very responsive and gave me the company that would re-contact them and a number that I can reach that company at for my gas range-stovetop unit. Things went well and the most part of my experience was very pleasant. I have one concern, though, which is it’s very difficult to reach them on the phone. They have a message that says something about “We care about our customers. We’ll be with you shortly,” and that “shortly” turns into about 30 minutes. I’ve stayed on the phone for sometimes an inordinate amount of time before I’ve gotten a real person. They definitely need to improve shortening that length of time. Still, the technicians were all very polite, professional, efficient, and courteous. Everything is going well since the repairs have been made.

I was very pleased with American Home Shield. My AC unit wasn't working properly. I filed a claim over the phone and the AHS reps I spoke with were great. It gets hot in Texas so I was really grateful because later that day, a technician came to fix the unit. He was very pleasant and took not more than 30 minutes to do the repair. The performance of the unit has been fine since then.

We don't have any problems submitting a claim with American Home Shield and the process works well. They worked on our garage door and plumbing. Our latest claim was for our upstairs air conditioner that wasn't putting out any air and I thought that the blower was shot. We hardly ever use it and inadvertently the fan had been left on for a year or so and has been sucking air in and filling up the filter with whatever comes out of the air. I didn't think to change and when we had company, we used the AC for the guest bedrooms but it wouldn't put out air. So when the contractor came, he found the filter was clogged and then he went outside and found some problems with the compressor unit. They fixed those so it worked well.

Claim submission was super easy. The only difficult claim was when we had to get our air conditioner replaced. They had to go through so many different steps to make sure that we really needed a whole new unit instead of trying to fix it. We had the technician before, and we really liked him. There was also another company that they use but we do not care for. But overall, AHS has been very helpful because this is our first house and having that saved us a lot of money.

In the beginning, we had good luck with AHS. We had a number of things go wrong because we had bought the house and some of the appliances were old even though they're in top condition. AHS responded fairly quickly and cover things. They send good people but then about eight months ago, we had a problem with our heat pump. Unfortunately, what had happened is at the time, everybody seemed to be having problems. It was the time of year when everybody was turning it on and so the whole world was calling up air conditioning people saying, "It doesn't work."
When we called, they used a contractor that they normally didn't use that was way down in the list and he did not do what he should've. It ended up that the company called him on it and said that what he was telling then doesn't make sense. He said we needed a whole brand new unit. We thought he was telling the truth, but found out later he wasn't. AHS asked for a second opinion and they sent their guy that they normally send out who said that he didn't report it right.
They thought they could fix it. In fact, there was also a part that had been put on backwards and the end result, the second person they sent, which was their normal person, did a good job. I would ask for him every time we have a problem now because he did really well. Other than that, we've been satisfied. The prices went up this year to like $868 but we have found that their company does better in coverage more than some other home warranties. As long as things continue on the way they are we'll continue to hire them to do our stuff. There were glitches but they ended up solving it.

The most recent claim was two months ago, and it had to do with a microwave oven. Online claim submission was easy to make. I got a call that day and it was taken care of that afternoon. They typically make the response within two days so it was unusual for American Home Shield to respond that quickly but that experience was a very positive one. My only criticism of American Home Shield is that, when I get to the point that the appliance need to be replaced, I have to go through extra layers of proof, and it's a cumbersome process that I've experienced in the last two years, but I understand from talking to folks that own other home appliance warranty that it's the same thing

I had a claim to AHS about two weeks ago with my air condition and my electricity. The air wasn’t flowing correctly in the house. They sent two different technicians out for the air condition because they can't figure out what was going on with it. The first technician who came out said that the air ducts was blowing some air, but they weren't flowing heavily. He then sent an electrician out and the electrician had to change some of the breakers. And then they only had a week of recall ordered, they sent another electrician out. It wasn’t the same electrician and then they're saying that the vents need to be closed but still because of the way the house was built. So they need to check that out, but the first technician didn’t show that. He was walking out then he got that air flowing and it was fixed. It's now better than before. Now I can operate. It's cool in the house and I can sleep.

It’s a new home purchase for me, old home for the previous owner, and that’s how I got the warranty. There had been a regular outlet before and so the previous owner had to turn it into a GFI in order to close the sale, and after they installed it, they didn’t check to make sure that the light turned on and off and that the outlet worked. When I tried to do it after I took possession, it didn’t work. That’s how I ended up filing the claim. Submitting it was relatively easy. What I had a problem with was cancelling the claim. I put in a request for something and it turned out I didn’t need to have it serviced. Cancelling it was complicated because I could schedule it online but I couldn’t delete the request or cancel it online. I tried to contact American Home Shield to cancel and I ended up calling the vendor myself to cancel because it looked like I couldn’t do that through the web. They couldn’t necessarily guarantee that it would be canceled, which was strange.

The guy fixed the AC on the first time they came out but it was broken the very next day. I had to call back and set another appointment and they told me it would be one price over the phone. They came out but they had a higher price and I didn’t have enough money available. I had to reschedule for the third time but they got it fixed and it’s working fine now. I was a little disappointed though. It's not with American Home Shield but more of the air conditioning people who called me to set up the appointment. They’re the ones who gave me the amount and it was different when they came out. I thought it would be covered a little bit more by American Home Shield but I ended doing the $125 as my deductible and then the $650 so I was in at about $800.

It's been a horrible experience with AHS. I had a problem with my garbage disposal during the Mother's Day Weekend. They sent PK Plumbing out and the guy replaced it. I started having problems immediately and had some severe leakage afterwards underneath the cabinet and they sent him back out. He didn’t put the dishwasher back together so they called him back out again because I'm thinking the water was coming from the dishwasher. He put that back on, tightened it up, and it was leaking again. It turns out he should've done a pipe modification to match the garbage disposal.
AHS sent Budget out eventually and Budget said the pipes don’t match but they're supposed to do a pipe modification. AHS were going to charge me $135 for the pipes but I cursed them out and didn’t pay them anything. So they waived that for me but then I had to take it up with the company myself for the damage. The bad part about this was when I thought everything's okay and I put stuff back underneath, then it all gets wet again. This happened three times. As a result, I'm dealing with a damaged cabinet and American Home Shield doesn’t deal with third party. So now I have to remember, when using American Home Shield and somebody damages my home, they do not help the customers because that’s what I'm dealing with. I'm in the process of not trying to drop them and I'm still paying them my money every month.
The restoration guy that came today had testers to see if I was clear from mold. It's awful and smells bad. AHS is trying to follow through with the claim now because I was getting ready to see if I can file a small claims lawsuit against them. They're going to replace the boarding because it's just soaked in. I'm very dissatisfied and wouldn't recommend them to anybody. Other people that I've referred have dropped them, so I'm the only one that’s holding on. But I'm glad that they decided to pay for the pipe and not make me pay anything additional. But I feel the fee should've been waived and that they could’ve fought for me a little bit better with PK Plumbing. And hopefully, they will replace that boarding or the cabinet.

We had a claim with AHS for plumbing, electrical and service with appliances. We traditionally submit them online, but this time, we called them to make our appointment. It was an involved situation since we were now working with three different companies and two of them were fabulous. But one of them not so much and we ended up having another company replaced because everything was so bad. But everything went well on the part of American Home Shield.
We had a ceiling fan that had to be replaced because the fan was no good and eight outlets throughout the home were not working, so they sent somebody out for that particular service. They showed, but we weren't at home because we didn't even know we had an appointment. We had been waiting for someone to call us for an appointment and we had to reschedule. We told them that we have an 8:00 to 12:00 window and that they have to be done by 1:00 because my husband has to pick up our kids from school. However, they ended up showing up at 12:45, 45 minutes late, and weren't going to be done by 1:00 so they just did a quick look around and scheduled another appointment.
They came back the third time and said that we have to order a new fan so it wasn't replaced on that day. Then they said that the outlet was due to a power surge that blew those outlets out and it wasn't covered through AHS. I had talked to a friend of mine who's an electrician, about the outlets and he told us that they don't have a way to prove that there was a power surge unless they were there when it happened and it would have affected everything. I called AHS about it and they sent out another company who was able to fix it in 10 minutes. They had all eight outlets working and they replaced the ceiling fan right away.
The first company had already scheduled an appointment to meet with us the following week. When we talked to AHS and scheduled another contractor, they said that they were going to call the first company to cancel the appointment. We didn't know that the first company was still coming out and when they did, my husband and the guy lightly exchanged some words. He ended up telling us that he didn't know how to fix it. I called AHS to let them know about this but there's nothing that I can do to make sure that it went to somebody or if the girl was just listening as I vented.
It was just that one contractor and took us almost a month just to get that one thing done. It was a headache and required a lot of follow-up and then the contractor would say one thing and they would ask me to call. They said that AHS can just call us and let us know what we have to do. They were not proactive and it was very time-consuming. But overall, AHS is good but not perfect.

I knew it was time to get one when I saw some water on the floor. I had no problem submitting the claim. Just about all of the technicians we've had here explained everything to us, told us how much something would cost, and what they were going to do. Everybody was courteous and knowledgeable, and did not treat us like we were dummies. They were great service people and so is American Home Shield.

We have American Home Shield for our warranty. We have had nothing but problems with the people they send out. I just called in because we have had problems after problems with the companies not fixing it or telling us to fix it. We are still having the small problems and I do not feel I should continue to pay for someone to not do their job. I was pretty much in tears talking with the supervisor and she just did not seem to care about anything. Not even that we are planning on leaving their comp may next month to find better coverage. All she could say was "Ok have a great day." Not even try to fix the problem.
We have had to have people come for our stove, dishwasher, and toilets and they continue to not take care of the work that needs to done. They say it is all normal or I can fix it myself. A stove smelling like gas or whistling is NOT normal or a dishwasher having to be turned in multiple time to even get it to work once or toilets that continue to leak or clog even when no one uses them. This is all NOT normal and my husband and I are sick of it. We also had a mold problem due to our A/C unit and myself have become ill not long after moving into our home as well as one of my daughters and the Dr's said mold can cause a lot of the problems that we have been having. Bleeding for hours on end and having parts of your organs stop working and being constantly sick all the time since you moved in.
After rushing our daughter to the hospital for bleeding for almost 2 hours we decided we should call someone else to help us because American Home Shield had nothing for us. We had to replace our entire unit and clean out the attic from the mold. My advice to whoever reads this is find another company. They do not care about their customers or the people they send out to "fix" what you complain about. I told her I need someone to come back out and do what needs to be done on the stove and all she offered was "You can buy a new one." "Yes I can but your company was paid to fix and do what is needed for the client and all you do is tell me there's nothing you can do." So stay away from American Home Shield. Find a company who care about their clients well being not the money.

That was on a Thursday. No one called on Thursday or Friday nor the next week. I finally called AHS back on Tuesday and said that they had not called me. I asked AHS to call them and ask them to send someone asap. I have contractors outside who need to use the hose and that is the pipe that needs replacing. In the meantime, I called All States back and they said they were waiting on a part. I said "part, it is a pipe for Pete's sake!" They said that they would call me back. It never happened.
So I called AHS back yesterday and AHS said that All States would get someone here today between 7:00 am and 11:00 am. No one came. Then I get a call from All States and they tell me that they fired the plumber and he would not be back. Could they send someone next week. In the meantime my contractors are carrying out buckets of water because they can't use the outside hose. I called AHS back to ask them to send someone else and after my complaint was heard that I needed someone to do it now, AHS hung up on me and never called me back. I've noticed on this website that all bad reviews are stricken through with a generic response from AHS, so I don't have great hope this will get read. Here goes. My refrigerator has been broken since June 2016. AHS dispatched the first technician quickly, he diagnosed that the unit had a leak in the sealed system and he was not qualified to fix. AHS dispatched a second technician, who diagnosed the issue as a simple freon leak. He returned to my house at a later date, put a tap on the sealed system and recharged the freon -- his repair did nothing to fix the issue (I found out later from the GE technician that it was absolutely the WRONG repair).
The second technician was dispatched for a third time where he determined that he could not fix the issue and that I should tell AHS that a GE repairman needs to evaluate the unit. A third [GE] technician was dispatched and he would not touch the unit because of what the 2nd technician had done. In fact, he said no other technician would agree to fix the unit because of the liability created by the 2nd technician. After countless daily calls on hold with AHS for 30-45 minutes/call and back and forth with the 2nd technician, AHS finally agreed that the unit was not repairable and agreed to replace. Now I am battling with them over the substandard unit they identified for replacement. Not only is it the wrong dimensions, it is a base GE model, mine is a higher-end GE Monogram (not comparable at all).
I don't know how this company stays in business. Please, hire more customer service agents so your clients don't have to wait 30-45 for someone to pick up. Second, train your customer service agents in customer service. Every single rep I spoke to said they would call me back. None of them (except for one gentleman) did. Third, be responsive. It is now September 1, 2016 and I have been living with a broken refrigerator since the end of June. I have no faith in this company and will likely be canceling my contract and looking for a better home warranty company. The five star rating AHS receives on this site must be rigged as I see all the poor ratings have been removed. Buyer beware!!

I understand the policy limitations and I paid for the entire repair but what I do not understand, and I am very unhappy with is that American Home Shield was paid $125.00. It was my understanding that a deductible on insurance is part of the repair cost not a separate fee paid to an insurance company. I am extremely unhappy with this. If I had known that the issue was not a part of the garage door opener itself, I would have called my own repair person and not paid someone $125.00 to do that for me.

I submit claims to AHS on the phone and sometimes the wait is long. I've also had moments where I thought about giving up my service because I haven't liked some of the contractors that have come out. There was this one time when I was having a problem with my dishwasher and they sent a guy out to fix it. He was very condescending to me, instead of teaching me how to properly use my dishwasher, he was instead demeaning about it. He said that I should use powder instead of liquid for it. So I did and the whole bottom of my dishwasher ended up being totally coated from using powder (which I never had before).
Also, in the past, they try to be quick to not cover something. Sometimes I had to fight for it and sometimes I win and sometimes I lost. The contractors that come out can be a little bit rude or condescending. All of the contractors that come are foreign and so there's a language barrier and perhaps they don't mean to be condescending. They all seem to be from the same few companies so you don't get to have a choice. But the recent one was the best experience that I've had. This last contractor renewed my faith in AHS. He came the very next day and I was really impressed by that. The air conditioning was not working and it was hot outside. He said it was a bad part and he had the part and he replaced it. I contacted American Home Shield due to a leak in my master bedroom. American Home Shield sent in plumber within a week to evaluate the problem. The contractor AHS sent looked around the area and indicated that a plumbing test was necessary to determine where was the water coming from. He came back two weeks later and diagnosed the problem as none plumbing issue. I called AHS and requested a second opinion. This time AHS sent in a different contractor. The second contractor open a small hole on the wall and said that the area appears dried, therefore it seems that the leak come from other source but not from the plumbing connections.
I had not choice than to hire an contractor in town who came and did a thorough inspection; he open a bigger hole on the outside and another on the inside of the wall four times bigger than the AHS contractor did. He found damp insulations, he trace the wet trail and found the leaking pipes. Since there was a big hole on the wall from the inside thru the out of the wall I couldn't leave it open to call AHS again and proof the leakage was from the plumbing system... I asked my contractor to fix the leak and seal the wall on the same day.
I wrote a letter to AHS and attached photos of the work and the leak. I also attached the invoice and requested reimbursement for what I had paid their contractor plus what I paid my contractor for fixing the problem. Unfortunately, American Home Shield denied my claim, claiming that I had to use their contractors. I file and appeal stating that I followed all provision of our contract, but their contractors failed to do a thorough inspection and correct the problem, giving me no choice that hire somebody on my own, but American Home Shield still denied my claim for a second time.

Bought a house. A few months in, noticed the floors in my bathroom were hot. Thought there must be a leak under the flooring. Called AHS and they sent someone out to inspect. The guy who came out pretty much said I had a slab leak and slab leaks aren't covered with my house because the house was built on a tension slab. The only way to resolve was to re-route the hot water. $1800 or so, not covered by AHS.
Next issue, went on vacation, came back home and noticed my wifi wasn't working. Checked the router, all lights off - dead, no power. I checked the outlets in other areas of the garage, same issue. This time, I called AHS to clarify exactly what would be covered under the "electrical" coverage listed on my warranty. The young lady on the phone said "all electrical". Well, the electrician wasn't able to locate the problem, thinks perhaps there is an outlet that is behind a workstation in my garage but stated if it has a loose wire and that's why it's not working, that wouldn't be covered. However, for approx. $420.00, he can come back will make sure the work is completed as he will bring a special device with him that he didn't have this time around.
Meanwhile, the cabinet/panel he removed from the wall, he never replaced so that's now sitting on the desk and not sure why, for $420.00, I could get my problem solved but under my "all electrical" AHS warranty. I would not. Makes NO sense. I gave it 2 stars because in both situations, I received a prompt service call and confirmation. Aside from that, so far, NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT'S WRITTEN ON and still trying to determine WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT COVER???

The American Home Shield warranty came with the house when we purchased it. I used it a good bit the first year and decided to renew it. I've never had a home warranty so it's the first time, and for this particular area it has been wise seeing value in it because of the market here. We moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida which is much smaller than Metro Atlanta where we were living. Down here it's trouble sometimes to get people to come work on anything. The main reason I kept AHS is because they've got a list of people that will come out to address issues.
When we first got the warranty, we had an issue with the commode. It had a leak. I actually pulled the commode up and stopped the leak, and it needed a gasket replaced. We used the commode through the warranty and a guy came out and fixed everything. However, AHS said they wouldn't remove the warranty because I went ahead and removed the commode and should have waited on the contractor. That hacked me off, but since then it's been a better experience. We had an air condition drain that continues to be an issue. As far as summer down here, it gets backed up. American Home Shield got the AC person to come clean the line out. They didn't get it taken care of the first time but they came back and got it done.

I'm gonna discontinue our service with AHS and get somebody else. My most recent experience with them was not good. The rep missed the verbal agreement online about replacing a trash compactor. But it was 34 years old and the size of the compactors in those days were much smaller than the ones today. So it wasn't repairable. Our house is old enough that they don't make them the same size, so we wanted to convert to having a trash can instead of a compactor. They said it's not in the policy and that they can only pay us what we would have paid for a compactor replaced. It was $488 instead of $800 and we had an agreement, so we went ahead with it. Then all of a sudden, we get a notice from them saying they can't do that because it's not in the contract. So we had to pay the whole claim, and this was after we had an agreement with them.

I've had American Home Shield for several years. When I filed a claim once, I had requested a particular company because they've got another one that I don't care for and they always accommodate me and sent him out if possible or send, not necessarily him, but his company. Other than being left on hold a long time when I call, which I know can't be helped because they're busy, I've been satisfied.

We have a dishwasher that stopped working. Submitting the claim to AHS went smooth. I gave them a call, they came out, they told me what was needed, found a problem I didn’t even realize, and had to come back a couple of times but took care of it. It went well and I was satisfied. I got what I thought I was paying for. I’d recommend American Home Shield.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield regarding my air conditioning unit. I was on hold for at least 45 minutes, which I find ridiculous. Once I got through, the process was a little aggravating as I was waiting for a repair and it’s 95 degrees out and they say that the contractor will have to call me. However, they gave the phone number and I could contact the contractor to urge them to come out. The service contractor that they sent out for my air conditioning unit was excellent. The company was great and highly recommendable. In fact, I will call them independently. The quality of their people, for the most part, has been good. I’ve only had a few service men that were just not capable but they remedied that.
I think that American Home Shield's customer service department needs to beef up. I don’t think I should be on hold for that long. I’m also in real estate and I sometimes advise people to get a home warranty, to buy a house and to sell a house. I think AHS should be aware of their shortcomings because every system of my house is covered. I pay about $1400 a year to get coverage.

My complaints are more with one contractor, rather than AHS itself because even if customers think that it's time to replace an appliance, they say that they should do something else. I've had pretty good contractors when I call in for a claim but there was this one time where something didn't sound right. One of the contractors that AHS sent had their time frame between 9:00 and 12:00 but got here at 7:00 at night. I think that's a bit much. It happened just one time and I don't think it was a very good contractor. However they didn't call AHS before they left my house, so the call was made the next day.
The pictures that contractor took of my air conditioning unit outside were crazy. Somehow they ended up telling AHS that there was pet urine on the air conditioning unit. I don't even have a pet and I've been living in my house for the last 16 years. So I asked them to send out somebody else, and another contractor came out who said that I don't need to spend $4,000 on another air conditioning unit, but rather some refrigerant. So they replaced the refrigerant and I've been good to go. Hence, I'm still satisfied with AHS.

I submitted an online claim for a plumbing issue and it was very easy to do. I registered through the website and then it sent me an email which told me I should be expecting a call from the contractor within the next amount of days and it happened. Typically, it takes between 12 to 36 hrs for a contractor to get in touch with me except for a claim that we had which took a little bit longer. The good thing was the problem was fixed so it wasn’t that big of a deal. The contractors have been very positive and very professional. They understand how to work within the warranty system and how to give me as the homeowner the best value for my buck. My experience with AHS has been very easy and very painless. They're very attentive.

I used American Home Shield a couple of times and it seemed to work out fine. Unfortunately, it’s a little pricey, so I couldn’t sign up for another year. The good thing is that they ended up replacing my garbage disposal, which was wonderful. When the technician came and looked at it, it was just gone. So he had it replaced and it worked out well. I submitted my claim via email. The first time I sent it, it went to Champion Plumbing's president. So I don’t know who they had as a contact, but it sat there for a little bit and I had to take a second callback, then they got somebody out there. Luckily, it was just my garbage disposal, so it wasn’t something urgent. Their reps were fine. There was some issue with scheduling when they realized what had happened. Nonetheless, they were pleasant and apologetic about it.
There was a time when I forgot about AHS so I accidentally called a plumber when my kitchen sink was leaking and AHS didn’t reimburse me for that at all. But I like Champion Plumbing's technician better than the guy I had hired for my leaky sink the first time. He was very pleasant and made me feel comfortable that everything was going be taken care of and not to worry. I like him a lot. In fact, I kept his card. I now have a perfect garbage disposal since the repair. I don’t use it all the time but when I do, it’s nice to know that it’s working.

A valve in the commode got old and bad so I called American Home Shield. It was easy when I filed the claim because I called the people through the number that I have. They called me back to let me know who was coming and from what company. They took care of everything. They sent a plumber who was very nice and he replaced the valve. That was very good and I was pleased. I paid the $75 and that was it. The plumber also left his card and said that I could request a certain company if I wanted to. About maybe a few weeks before that, I didn’t realize that my policy had run out. I had to have another plumber and it was very expensive. I paid him $500 to do something and I've never paid that much money for a drain that stuffed up. I don’t ever want to quit having American Shield and I will recommend them.

We called AHS for a repair on my A/C unit. The "specialist" came out and didn't check anything but the unit outside. He said it was an electrical problem. AHS then dispatched an electrician and he said the AC specialist prob didn't know what he was doing because it was definitely an AC problem. The AC guy came back out and replaced a part needed for the unit. It took him a week to get. He took 3-4 days to come back out to replace it. Then it wasn't that either. He then replaced the Thermostat and nothing. He also changed something in the attic and after a month without A/C it finally worked! But then he fell thru the ceiling and into my bathroom!! He took another 2 weeks to fix that hole in the ceiling! Are you kidding me? This A/C guy never responded to my calls, promised he would come and then he didn't, and he didn't even care about anything.
Most horrible service I have ever had! I felt so impotent I couldn't do anything! And AHS, they didn't care either! Their customer service reps are so rude! If you can actually talk to one because they keep you on hold for 45 mins to an hour! Every single day I had to call them! Their managers wouldn't call back either! Horrible!! Horrible!! And did I receive a call from a manager or anybody to apologize?? NO! All this happened in 100+ degree weather in Dallas! Worst experience ever! And they charged me so much money! I could of gotten someone on my own for much less!

Once again, AHS has failed me. For the second time into as many years my AC has had a problem. AHS REFUSES TO HELP IN A TIMELY MANNER. We are on day 3 of our home being 100 degrees inside. The vendor they sent out JJ'S Fire and Ice said it was our compressor. But they said that AHS is miserable to get a hold of for verification. The AC unit went out on Sunday. Tech came out Monday afternoon. They didn't actually submit the information AHS needs until today which is Wednesday. Neither company can get their crap together to get it fixed. Now they need to order the part. Which still has not been done. AHS, will not get us a new vendor that already has the part nor will they let us get another vendor that is licensed and has the part to do the work. We are stuck, once again, with the spiteful vendor they picked.
Once the part is ordered, it may be a few days. And with Labor Day coming. We may have to wait till Tuesday. That's 9 days without AC in Phoenix, with the outside temperature of over 100 degrees. AHS refuses to get us a vendor that works weekends. This is beyond irresponsible, it is now cruelty. I pay AHS every month and have been for several years. AC in Phoenix isn't a luxury item. It is a necessity. And the fact that AHS cannot resolve matters like this in a timely manner again leads me to believe that they are not a company anyone should use. They are not helpful. My wife is a property manager, she has had several units with AC problems this summer. None of the home warranty companies she has used for her owners have ever taken this long to fix an AC unit. I'm so disgusted in this poor poor customer service.

I really wish American Home Shield would drop A&E as a preferred service vendor. They have been the most unprofessional service technicians I have ever encountered. It is clear that they won't put the actual time in to properly fix your appliance if it requires more than 1 hour. They must be measured on volume of calls vs successful repairs. After 4 trips out to attempt to fix our refrigerator AHS had to call an alternate service provider. When they came out they diagnosed the problem within 2 min. Shame on you A&E. You put us without a working refrigerator for over a month.

We have had AHS on our home for 8 years now with very few claims that would have cost AHS very little as compared to my premiums. In fact our most recent string of 4 calls cost me $75 each for a technician to solve a simple "I could have done that myself" fix. Until our recent call last night for a sink drain that also has our newest AC unit drain into it. The sink was found Monday night heaping full with clear cold water due to a stoppage at drain level making the sink and AC unusable. AHS sent out a plumbing co which are good and reputable. Before the technician put his "roto snake" down the drain he decided to call in due to the wear and tear of the PVC nuts (1 cracked, other light plastic separated) in order to get a "better fix" to my issue and not cause further damage.
We were put on hold to review the case and handed down a NO FIX verdict via email as AHS sent my case out for 2nd review and I got that via an email. No one called! The company they sent it out to is a LOSER company per Angie's List and google reviews, so I knew where my hope lie! I spent over 1 hour on hold trying to find out why this simple job could not be covered given my coverage. AHS want to nickel and dime you when it comes to such a simple fix! In the 4 calls this year I have probably cost them $200 of my 800 in premiums. Very disappointing to say the least! I am considering ditching AHS! Of course I could call in again and wait hours on hold, they got me where they want me!

This is my first month with AHS and I already regret subscribing to AHS. In fact, this is the worst decision I have ever made in my life. First, it has taken me 7 calls to get the work order right. Second, some of the vendors AHS contracts with (the one I had to deal with first - AAA All Brands) have really bad ratings, don't respond to your calls and don't even call to schedule an appointment. I don't know on what basis AHS picks these vendors, but after looking at their reviews it clearly shows that they pick the cheapest ones out there (which usually happen to have the worst reviews). Third, AHS doesn't do anything to understand the gravity of the service request. It treats all service requests equally. My AC and duct work have had issues for over a week now and AHS has done nothing to expedite the request (even after 6 service calls). Also, it takes forever to get in touch with their service representatives! Don't even try.

Claim submission is very easy - I can do it online or give them a call. However, submission of claim through phone is only during working hours, so if I have an issue at 12:00 at night, I'm out of luck. Nobody would be there to answer the call. But during working hours, I call them and have to sit on hold for a while. That's why I have a tendency to do the submission through the internet because I can make my claim faster.
There are things I complain about. When I call AHS, I am being on hold forever. Plus I have an automatic draft on one of my cards, so every month, it charges one of my cards. When I go into their system online, the bill shows the second of the month. It's drafted in my credit card, and my credit card payment has no issues, but they still send me three letters every three months saying, "Oh, your card's been denied." I sat on hold one time and told them, "Look, it shows charge to my card and then you all send me these three letters." And they're like, "Yeah, that's a mistake. There's something wrong with our billing system." There’s still something wrong with their billing system because literally every three months, I get this same thing: “Oh, yeah, we can’t charge your card,” but when I look at my statement, the credit card has been charged, so I don’t even call them anymore. The automatic draft is the most bizarre thing ever!
Nevertheless, the contractors have been very good. When I first bought the home, I had another home warranty people that came out a couple of times and serviced things right after I bought it, and I wasn't impressed. I thought, "Gosh, these are yahoos that don't even have a name on the side of their van." But, all the people that American Home Shield has sent are reputable.I've been very thrilled with American Home Shield and the service they provided. I just call them, and then they work it out. I'd definitely recommend them.

I recently filed a claim to AHS for a refrigerator and the process was very easy. The first contractor was not knowledgeable or was in a hurry. He came late in the afternoon. We had just bought this house not too long ago and he said the coils were dirty and that was probably what was wrong with it so he vacuumed them. So I wouldn’t say he was knowledgeable because it wasn’t that. It was the condenser. And so, we had to get someone to come back out and that time, they had to order a part. Then I got a bill from Sears, so I had to send them something to prove that I had paid it. They resolved it but it was kind of a hassle. I’m glad that the refrigerator now works but it’s always nice to get it fixed on the first try instead of having someone go here several times. If that had been our main refrigerator, that would’ve been a bad thing. But it’s not AHS that was messed up. It was Sears, the ones that they had hired.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was with my AC that's needing repair. They've come out here seven times since May, but I'm still having problems with my AC. This AC unit has been repaired every year for the last year or two, and it's still not fixed. On the paperwork, they said the AC had a leak, but they can't find it. When I call AHS, they send out a technician. The techs keep coming out, but they do the same crap. The AC works for a week or two, and then it starts getting hot in the house. I'm disabled and I can't take the heat.
They want me to upgrade. But I'm not upgrading because my AC unit worked and I never had a problem with it in all the eight years that I had my trailer. Then last year my AC had a leak and I put in a service call. They sent somebody out and I've had one supervisor call me one time, and my AC was fixed then. I tried calling her back when the problem occurred again, and to this day she has still not returned my call. Then, this year my AC lost Freon and they kept wanting me to pay for Freon. I paid $270 for some Freon which didn't need to be added. I'm paying for Freon for nothing because it's going out somewhere, but nobody wants to find the leak.
Moreover, the people that they've got working for them are just crap. The contractor who came out sent a technician that wasn't licensed. I reported to the State Plumbing Board that he messed up my floor with my water heater because he didn't change a port, which he knew was leaking because he had told AHS that it was leaking. Then he wouldn't give me his license number, which is against the law.

I wish their man was located closer to my town, the guy has to drive an hour to get here. At some point, he's thinking more about how far away from home he is and how long it took him to get there and all that. It's better if the service provider only had to come within 20 minutes. We had to wait probably for at least 45 minutes just so I can talk to someone. My wife called at least three times and had to wait that long as well. The last time I spoke to a customer representative, I told them that the wait time was unacceptable, especially since I only had a few questions to ask. The questions I asked probably took 5 or 10 minutes versus the 45 I had to wait.
The contractors for the water heater were exceptionally well. They were punctual and did a really good job. On the other hand, our experience for the claim on swamp cooler was a nightmare. It was so horrible that we actually had to call and ask for the previous contractor who did our water heater. They then came in, and were thorough in what they did, and got the job done. We had our swamp cooler replaced because it was defective and leaking all over the roof, and the unit itself was fairly old between 10 and 15 years old. It was nice to have the unit replaced and not to worry about our pocket cost, but we find it frustrating that the wait time for AHS was horrible and we're just assigned to a contractor and not able to pick who we want.

We have AHS warranty on all our appliances in our home. Our central A/C unit was 20 years old when we moved in almost 2 years ago. We never had an issue until this past July. Our A/C stopped working on June 30th. I called AHS to set up for someone to come take a look. The company they had on contract couldn't come until July 6th. It's FL and it's over 90 degrees outside, meaning our house was about 90 inside (not tolerable especially when you have kids and animals). I called every day to see if they could find another company.
On Saturday, July 2nd I got the 'ok' to use an outside contractor. They came and said the whole unit needed to be replaced because the one part that was broken (evap coil) was too old, that if they replaced it wouldn't be up to code as our compressor was using the old refrigerant. AHS said "no", they wouldn't replace the whole unit. They said we needed a 2nd opinion so they set us up with another company to come out. So by then it had been almost 1 1/2 weeks without air. The company they had come out also said evap coil needed to be replaced. AHS again only approved the evap coil.
I tried repeatedly to call the company they had come out to see when they would be able to come and replace the evap coil. This company never called me back so we decided we couldn't go without air (we were without air for 3 weeks during the summer in FL!!!) and called another company and replaced our whole unit. The company AHS had come for the 2nd opinion, called me a month after the whole incident and said they were ready to make the repair the following week! Really?? It took them a month?
AHS was only willing to repair the evap coil when it wouldn't have been compatible or up to code with the outside compressor. It makes me sick to know we pay yearly for a service that doesn't really help. Now I will say that I have other family members who also have AHS and they've always helped them however my family hasn't had to replace A/C, my brother had some work done on his washing machine and my parents had work done on their refrigerator. I am disappointed with AHS.

Now recently, I’ve had my refrigerator worked on for four times already. Everything in my freezer was iced over and vegetables stored in the refrigerator would freeze. Whenever they fixed anything, it wouldn't last long. The last person who came out, he was out here five minutes and said he had to change a part and he left. I'm not sure if he put a part in there or not (he said he did). I asked for a receipt and he told me that I would receive it via email, but never got that email. I just kept dealing with it until I saved up enough money to go and buy me one. So, last week, I had to go and buy me a refrigerator. AHS calls the lowest of the low people to come out and do the work.

American Home Shield sent Post Heating and Air to fix our air condition unit. The contractor told us exactly what was wrong and what we need to do to fix it. He even showed us how to clean the unit on the outside 'cause he said it was dirty. Not a lot of people do that and that was amazing. He tried to help us save some money. I like the Post Heating and Air and they'd be a good people to work with and use again. On the other hand, we have an electric stove top and it's cracked and broken and nobody called us back on that yet. Nevertheless, I've recommended AHS to two different people.

We chose the same one we had and so far it's performed excellently - we can't get along without it.

Wait time is always 30-75 min on hold. Customer Support 98% of the time treats you like you're bothering them and they do nothing to help you but read what the computer prompt is telling them. They lack common sense and ability to think on their own causing customer frustration. I had a wall opened by a plumbing company that was very unprofessional and neglected to tell them they cut a hole in the wall to see the pipe. Because they did not inform the AHS they would not come repair the wall. They also turned in a report that did not represent my job properly. Crown the plumbing company was also very rude. AHS did not care at all who they supply to its insured. That's just one of the problems that took Hours to deal with and now I am paying for the wall to be closed and the plumbing because they do not insure pipes not installed properly from a previous owner/flipper.
I have requested for over a month with several reps to please send me the letters so I can prove I was denied repair. It's been months and no reports. Oh Wait One showed up out of 3 and I asked for all 3 that they said they sent twice. On my call to inform them that I need them and my deadline passed so I was able to get my Lawyer to get an extension and called today and was told they will send them and then was connected to the retention department. You know the place you get to when a company wants to keep you as a customer? Well... they had a recording and the disconnected me. Guess they do not want to keep their customers. Another was I was shown their care for the customer. I could go on but I think if you read this far you get the idea that this is a really poor run company and lacks in many areas. There are better companies like this out there I have used and suggest you should as well. This is NOT a quality company!

The top issue for readers is that they will find every wiggle room to get out of paying for something that clearly states it is covered! Next... I have had maybe 4 issues within 2016! This is the over the top issue here... Our Thermador Microwave is catching things on fire periodically! They send a tech out and he literally stated on paper that he boiled water that did not catch on fire! WTF? I saw what he was doing and pointed out that was the dumbest thing I've ever heard of and handed him 4 bags a popcorn. I said, "Here... This is one setting you can get it to catch fire on!"
So he cooks 3 bags and agrees the dish itself is getting too hot and we just need to add a plate under it! So, I showed him my broken plate that was microwave safe! "Yep, I see the door burned but you just need to not cook so much bc the microwave is heating plate too hot!" So... He leaves me with only able to cook 2 bags a popcorn and writes up they decline to repair bc of damage to the door!??? So my microwave is still catching things on fire and they said they decline to come back out!!! WTH. We live in a $1,300,000 home so this is NOT a piece of crap house! I've run into sooo many issues like this. I can't list bc they limit us in letters! TRUST ME... USE A DIFFERENT INSURANCE.

This group of 18 year olds were in my house for two days, broke my dishwasher, removed my floor, and removed my kitchen cabinet doors. Then told me I had a hot water leak in my slab, and that my whole kitchen would need to be redone. No. No I don't. My hot water comes through the wall, not the slab. It was my dishwasher leaking, that they conveniently broke the door off of - no idea how. I spent 3 days with my hot water on using everything but the dishwasher... Guess what NO WATER on the floor.
This man was going to jackhammer my foundation for a dishwasher leak. I told him I didn't want him "working" on my house anymore, and since have received nothing but threatening phone calls. Everything from "that hot water leak has been there" and "I'm going to make sure no insurance will cover you", to "NO ONE COVERS MOLD". Ok? I bought a new dishwasher, hired a plumber to install it, and redid my tile floor. My cabinets? I painted them cause he took them off anyway. Really just upset AHS sent a psychopath to my house and gave him my phone number.

Before you sign up with AHS, read the contract carefully. They are under no obligation to fix anything within a certain period of time... only get someone to your house... and there's nothing you can do about it if they want to drag their feet with the repair. I called them in June with a broken refrigerator. After a month of waiting for a part to come in, it didn't work because it was refurbished. We waited again, and even with the new part, the refrigerator is still broken. After countless hours on hold, and multiple phone calls, all AHS will say is that they aren't responsible for delays caused by their contractors or suppliers.
It's now August 29th, and I still have a broken refrigerator, and AHS will only say that they will do the best they can... and they refuse to do anything but tell me to wait. Extremely disappointing experience from what I was told was a reputable company. No matter who you are, you can't tell someone that 10 weeks without a refrigerator is acceptable. They hide behind the legality of the contract, and don't care about customers at all.

I even gave that plumber a bad review and said I didn’t want to work with them anymore. I was told it's just a random number that they pick from whatever neighborhood and I was stuck with that. I felt uncomfortable because I didn’t know if they knew I gave him a bad review the first tine. Eventually, it just stopped. I called and told them that they needed to send the people back out so that they could fix my air conditioning properly like it was supposed to be. They did, but I ended up spending $300 to go and get a semi-window unit to keep cool in my room.
It took them three days to come out. They also told me that they wouldn't charge me another fee for $75. But they ended up sending me a bill anyway. So now, I’m stuck with a bill and this semi-window unit. If they did it right, in the beginning, they wouldn't have to come out a second time. I talked to American Home Shield about it and they said it was up to the company that came out. This is unfair but they kept sending me a bill. I've used American Home Shield one time and I didn't have any problems with it. I just bought an old house in December and I was concerned that I would have problems with it because of the age. Then the fan of the air conditioning system went out on the compressor. It was covered under the warranty program and American Home Shield replaced it. All I had to do is call in and tell them what the problem was. They were friendly on the phone. They made arrangements to have somebody come out and look at it. The service person determined what the problem was and got their approval replacing the part. He was courteous. It took a couple of days finalizing everything. Just the normal deal and paperwork. It maybe even fell on a weekend, which complicated the matters on getting the part and everything, but it's been working fine since they replaced the fan.
Basically, AHS went with the lowest bid. I personally would not have gone to something like this, but this was the way the insurance program worked. They research the area and find out what the lowest possible cost they can get somebody come out and replace whatever has to be replaced. By going that route, naturally, you're not getting the top-line people. It was quite evident that the guy was not a professional person that's been in the business for years. He barely had a handful of tools to work with. It appeared that he was probably somebody who had gone out on their own and was trying to make a go at it. But he did replace it and it functioned properly, and I haven't had any problems since then.
It's not like calling up a professional company and having a professional company come out and go through the system, which I ended up doing later on just to have everything checked out. But AHS got the thing working and then it was a normal charge. I had to pay some but it was very minor compared to what it would've been through just going out and getting somebody to do it. It's better than paying for just the whole service out of my pocket.

So far we haven't had any major problems but I've had to replace several hot water heaters and they've always sent somebody out and got the job done. I usually file my claims over the phone and sometimes, it will be really busy. It's just my choice to do it that way, but their website seems to be fairly easy to navigate. Sometimes American Home Shield is okay and sometimes a little difficult. Submitting claims to them was okay but they need to update their list of reputable contractors and investigate more how good, dependable, and reliable these people really are. They also need to investigate how things are going with customers because it's all about customer service and they've forgotten about that. They should not just have a list of people that they want to send out when somebody calls in and know nothing about the company. Some of these contractors are extremely busy and some parts are not available quickly. Also, the people that AHS send out are okay but some of these places are so far away and the schedule is too tight.
AHS should not use the same old people if they're not doing their job like they're supposed to because we're paying for this. And a lot of times I sit back and I ask myself what I really am paying for and if all of their customer service and getting the right people to come out are really able to get things done, and I still don't have an answer. There's a high wait time a lot of times when I call in because I know a lot of people call in at the same time and I might not be able to get around that. But it should be a little faster somehow, somewhere to get through to somebody. I would recommend AHS because of the convenience but when one gets used to convenience, it should only get better.

The contractors that AHS send come out fairly quickly and know what they’re doing. Most of the repairmen can diagnose and fix the problem if they have the parts. The only problem I’ve got with AHS is if a part is needed, it takes forever for them to get it and fix the problem. Sometimes they have to go all the way out to the warehouse. For example, I have a friend whose refrigerator went out and it took 28 days to get it fixed. And then he has a washing machine that has a power problem and it’s been out now for over two weeks and it still hasn’t been fixed. Rather than going downtown to Dallas to pick up a part that may be at $15 a part, it takes a week to two weeks to go to their warehouse in California or wherever it is. So that’s the biggest complaint I’ve got. Generally, the experience is okay but sometimes very frustrating.

This time, American Home Shield sent someone out and I wasn't home. My son was there and he said, "Ma, I don't think you should go with this man. He's asking for $500." So I called American Home Shield back to get a second opinion because I wasn't satisfied with the person that came. They sent a second person out and he looked over my system and told me that my system is not fixable. I said, "Well, somebody was just here a couple of days ago and they wanted to repair it." And she said, "There was no way he was gonna be able to repair your system, ma'am." Then AHS reached backed to me a day or two later and told me they were sending someone else out to replace my air conditioning unit. I'm the happiest person in the world.
I've been a homeowner for 15 years. I'm a single parent and I live by myself. I don't have a second income to help me out. I started out using a home warranty company, but then, eventually, I let it go. But I'm glad I've recently signed back up a year or two ago. I've never had someone that treated me as well as AHS. I had a great experience with them so they'll get a lot of positive feedback from me to other people. I know lots of homeowners and a lot of single women that are homeowners. I actually told all of my homeowner friends to join a home warranty company and I recommended American Home Shield. I pay a monthly fee to AHS. I have for about 3 years approx. It is 75 dollars for someone to come out and fix the problem. When something big (bad) happens they look for a way out. My pool pump is shot, absolutely not working anywhere near where it should. To the extent that I imagine it could be dangerous to swim in bad water. So after dealing with the pool company that came out and getting the runaround I decided to call AHS. After I told them my problem, my rep at AHS told me that the pool company had SPECULATED that my pool pump cracked because the water level was low and not due to wear and tear. So this was news to me, because the pool company that came out had told my pool guy that they had fixed the problem and it was working without ever talking to me when they were at my house (plus no signed paperwork explaining their work).
This is where it gets worse. My contact at AHS told me to read my contract because they only cover damage by wear and tear. I told her that any pool person could see that the pump is useless due to wear and tear. So I brought up the word speculate. That is an opinion not a fact. My question is why would you take a random guess as fact, and leave me the client in the loss. My contract says you will fix the pump. You tell me that the pool company’s guess is better than finding out the facts. This is a horrible company and I am dropping my service as soon as the second opinion is done. I am going to Fidelity. I have them with another home I own and they seem to be ok.
Even the pool people I talk with in the area tell me that this company is known for this. Most pool companies won't work with them because they are very cheap and not very customer friendly. I never complain on paper, but now that I have to buy another pump on my own so my kids don't get sick (900 dollars) and pay 150 dollars to have two pool companies come out plus 75 dollars a month to a company that won't honor their contract. Well sometime you just have to speak up.

I don’t really like American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for an air conditioning unit and I was supposed to deal with one of their air conditioning service contractors. However, the one that we're supposed to deal with was very busy and couldn't get out to the house until a week and a half later, so we were without air conditioning in a 100 degree Texas weather. So I started to try and find somebody else to go out here, and this other company who was taking a look and troubleshooting our air conditioner determined that I needed another air conditioning unit. They left it unplugged because it's a fire hazard to keep the unit plugged in when it's not working properly.
Later, I found out from American Home Shield that before they'll have somebody come out here, we would have to have the other company go back out and put the air conditioner back to its original configuration before they would even consider covering anything. The other company on the other hand, didn’t want to do that because it was a fire hazard. Why plug it back in again when it's not working properly? So I was pretty much stuck in a bad position. It's pretty much going to be the end of American Home Shield for me.

After the initial contact, they said that they'll be out between 8:00 and 10:00, but they didn’t get out there until 6:00 at night and it made it a terrible, terrible day. I have a 78-year-old mother who lives with us and she sleeps during the day. So for her to be in a 105-degree temperature doesn’t help. However, once the team of two guys got there, they got the AC fixed and did a fantastic work. They're smart, on point, very thorough, clear, and respectful. I cannot commend them highly enough.
