I've been waiting to have something done since March. It's the worst experience I've ever had with American Home Shield and I've been with them for about 15 years. The work was simple. I have two sinks in my bathroom. Both of the stoppers were broken and they said that I did it on purpose. They didn't approve it. There were three things I requested. I had a leak in my bathtub and I couldn't do that, so I had them come out. The first company that came out said, that it looked like I had demolished it. I asked for a second opinion and the second company came out and they said it was wear and tear and it should be covered. They submitted the request and I was waiting and waiting and waiting till April the 1st. Then they approved it.
The first company that came out was a different company. They didn't even check the bathtub. They only checked the sinks. When I tried to call them back and say, "No, you guys were supposed to check everything," they didn't come back. They didn't respond. But then they responded for the sinks and said, "Oh, yes. It's wear and tear." So they submitted the request to American Home Shield and they indicated that they were gonna take care of it and nothing out of my pocket. I already paid my fee, and it was fully covered.
On April 12th, they sent the first company back out again. The tech didn't even bring any tools with him. He didn't bring the faucet with him. My daughter called me and said, "Well, they're here and they have a proposition for you." I wasn't gonna report the company because I wanted them to do right by me. But he was trying to pull a scam on me to say that I had leaks. I've been in this house for 30 years, and I know my house. The leaks weren't in the floor. I had towels under my sink and they were saturated, but not the actual floor. They said that they could get this done but they didn't go through American Home Shield. They would go through my insurance company and then I would get a whole remodel. But I told them, "No, I don't think so."
Another young man was sent over here and I watched him do the diagnostics. The little machine he had didn't go off. So that meant that my floor wasn't saturated. The other sink wasn't saturated because I stopped using it and it hasn't leaked in over six months to a year. But he tried to say the whole thing was damaged and all the stuff they could do. He could submit the claim. But I didn't feel right about it. So I told him, no and that I just wanted my sink fixed and he said they would take care of it. But they stopped calling me. They told American Home Shield that they tried to contact me, but there were no answers. But they did. They set the appointment and I'm sitting up all day long waiting for them and they don't even come. They didn't tell me they were not coming until the end of the window. I kept rescheduling and calling.
When I called on Monday, I was so upset. I was in tears. They said, "Well, we gonna do cash out in lieu of repair." I said, "So what am I supposed to do then? That's why I'm with you guys. You guys are American Home Shield. I'm paying you." The rep told me that the contracted company didn't wanna work with me. I said, "Oh, so you guys have given me the runaround for the last two months. And this is the end of what you're gonna tell me. They don't wanna deal with me when they're the one that try to scam me?" So I told him that I was done and I would report them. I was brushing my teeth in my tub or in my shower because I don't wanna cause any damage based on what I know about what's going on with my sink.
Dear Joyce, I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss this further. Sincerely, Mariah

I sent in a claim for the stove and the microwave, and it was handled very well. The technician checked it, but he didn't have the parts right away. We needed to reschedule it for the parts, and then he went and fixed it. So the interaction was very smooth. It was good for me. Overall, the service with American Home Shield is okay. It's top-notch for me, and they are quite attentive with the request. Even when I submitted my claim online, they were able to get back to me right away to schedule someone to be able to check it. So overall, it's pretty amazing work. Customer service is very good as well. But it's a little bit still pricey for me.

My last open case is for the repair of a water heater. This claim happened on 6/7 and it's supposed to be an expedited order but it still has not been resolved and it's now officially been a week. It's due to the contracted vendor they have, which has not been sufficient or satisfactory. What makes it terrible is this happened Thursday night and I put an expedited order in but they couldn't get any vendors out to service the claim until Tuesday. I thought that was not a sufficient timeframe so they canceled that first vendor and they found the second one called GVS Plumbing, who came out on Saturday, which is the closest thing. But now, it's been unending. I told them to let me go back to the first vendor that they had assigned and I will take just anything but that can't be done until this one is finished out. The claim is still open and they can't switch midstream. I've not been happy with this.
If done properly, the claims process is not horrible but it's all, unfortunately, based on the contracted vendor they have. It works well if it's a reliable vetted vendor but if you're having difficulties with the assigned vendor, instead of just moving on to something else, it still has to fall through the whole process. I've put in multiple complaints about this guy's unresponsiveness and there's still no recourse.

Every claim with American Home Shield takes a different turn. When you call American Home Shield, the call is forwarded abroad. They use call centers somewhere abroad. The people who answer the call mainly in the Philippines are very respectful, knowledgeable, and well-trained but they only go by the book. When you take the phone call in the US, you feel there is a different flexibility when you talk to them. These guys abroad are trying to go by the book just like in a sequence. Apart from all that, the fun starts after they place the order.
The biggest concern is the contractors they network with. They are the most horrible contractors. The least contract-experienced people, most of the time, are one-man-show contractors. It's not a legit business that you have a business. Every contractor they contract with is a one-man show. It's somebody who has retired, somebody barely doing the work, or somebody doing work at their convenience.
Regardless of the reviews and feedback from customers, the contractors they network with are the cheapest ever. They are unprofessional and unethical. They come to your home. They destroy your home. They would come to fix an issue. They would leave, fixing one and destroying the other three. The biggest problem is that the contractors lie. Most of them are liars about the issue and diagnosing and reporting the issue. The bigger problem is American Home Shield believes the contractors and their say over their customers who have been with them. For example, a contractor came in, and he was rude, was swearing, and slammed the door. They didn't do a good job. They cut corners. They put cheap products. And sometimes they report different diagnoses just for them to get out of the job. You stuck with American Home Shield believing the contractors. Then you ask for a second opinion to come in. It's another challenge.
The biggest problem with American Home Shield is the contractor they network with and the coverage. Sometimes, you buy the most expensive item for your home. It gets broken and needs repair. They repair it with a cheap part, not necessarily the same brand. And if there's a replacement, they replace it with the cheapest in the market or the lowest brand. For example, you spend $5,000 on a refrigerator, and they'll replace it with a $700 refrigerator. Then the technician who comes in is unprofessional and disrespectful to you, your home, and your time. I wish that they would deal with legit companies, somebody who has a good reputation and a good presence.
Just recently, I placed a call request for a repair. The company did not call me back to schedule my appointment yet. The call was two days ago. I looked up the company. It doesn't have a website. It doesn't have an address. It's only one person and one name. It's a one-man show. He’s probably busy and God knows when he's gonna give me a call and when he's gonna come and squeeze me in between. So, it's a struggle.
In addition, American Home Shield's prices went up. Every renewal, they almost double the price on you and they reduce services. So, I'm looking to change American Home Shield because there are a lot of competitors that are offering better prices and better services. American Home Shield doesn't care about their customers because they have a large volume globally and they dominate in the market. But eventually, that's not gonna be the case going forward because people cannot tolerate this for a long time. They need to have a better selection and vetting of their contractors.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I had a homeowner's inspection done on my home and I had two wires that needed to be stripped, cleaned, and reconnected in my electrical panel. The repair guy from Silver Strand Electric showed up on time. He stripped the existing wires, which were gonna be very short, so he added a little extra length to the wire. And then, he reconnected it. I've had other issues with American Home Shield that I've not been very happy about. But I didn't have an issue at all with this particular instance with the electrical company.
I recently had AC problems and I could never reach anybody who could speak clear, concise and understandable English, even though I selected English as my option. The air conditioner company came out and told me what they wanted to do but it did not make any sense to me. I asked for a second opinion and AHS didn't want to send one out. But they finally did. The second opinion told me they couldn’t repair what was broken on my air conditioning unit. It needed to be replaced. American Home Shield called and said they were gonna repair it and I asked what the second opinion said. The rep from AHS said they agreed with the first company. But I told them I spoke with the contractor when he came out and he did not agree with replacing or repairing a cooling system. He wanted to remove it from my home, take it to their shop, fix it and bring it back, and that's just not done. I had three AC people tell me the exact same thing.
I asked if I could have the report from the second opinion and the rep from AHS told me I'd have to contact the contractor myself. So I contacted the contractor and they told me they were not asked what their opinion was. They were asked if the coiling was the problem and they had to answer yes or no. AHS did not want to replace the AC unit. What was gonna end up happening is they were gonna have to repair it and then end up replacing it because it wouldn't have worked. So I ended up cashing out with the very minimal repair and buying a new AC unit from someone else. I have a neighbor that I told about the homeowners' insurance and they went with it. But they have had an issue recently with their refrigerator. I would probably not recommend AHS to anyone.

The guy came out for the dishwasher and ordered the part. When it came in, he put it in but it didn’t fix the dishwasher. The other guy who was here said that was not the problem. He ordered a different part and it fixed the dishwasher. The techs were very nice and polite. One time I had a ceiling fan and an attic fan issue and American Home Shield sent this guy out and all he was out for was the money. He came in, said he couldn’t fix it and was out of here. I never heard back so I had to pay to get another guy to come out here because I was not happy. That's the worst one I've had so far with that company and I had to tell AHS not to ever send them out. On a future date, I told them to either change contractors or I'm gonna go somewhere else. They didn't change contractors. But I would still recommend them.
I had a prior incident with another company that was not very nice and I dropped them quickly, and I've been with American Home Shield since. Most times, you can go online and make the request. I have done it a couple of times verbally, which is easier than online. They charge you your fee upfront and send you a name. I deal with the company that was given the job and that's who I deal with most times.
The only time I had to deal with customer service was when I had to deal with that one company who I was not happy with and that was not in their custom. Once you deal with them other than taking money and getting their contractor, that's easy to do. But once you start to get into something complicated, it becomes a little less enjoyable. But as long as A to B and the contractor are fine and it all works out, then usually I have no problems. But I found out through a second contractor that AHS sent out that they clean up for this guy all the time. AHS had known that this person had less than good ratings and yet they still assign jobs to him. If you don't have a problem and the contractor is good, then you usually don't deal with anybody from the company.

The amount that I have to pay monthly is reasonable and the coverage that I have with my policy is very good. If something goes wrong, it can cost a lot so to have this security blanket in place is a big deal. Recently, I used it for my refrigerator and it was a very seamless process. Once I put in what was going on, there was a company that came out. The contractor who came was a very nice guy and very detailed as to what was going on. He immediately put in the service request for the part that was needed and as soon as it came in, they came out the next day and installed it. I was worried about it but I ended up paying $100 and that was it. In this economy, that was a life. That's why I'll stick with AHS. That was my first time really having to use it and the experience was a good one. I recommend it to homeowners.

We hesitate to call American Home Shield because they make excuses a lot on why not to fix things. So, we try to find other ways to fix them first. But I've never had any super bad things with them. For the most part, filing a request is normally quick. We recently had a spring in our garage door that popped and AHS called within a day and a half. Then, they scheduled the repair for a few days later. The service guy was very nice and got the repair done quickly. Then, he explained to us what was wrong. He said our garage door is old and the parts he had to replace will be newer. So it would make sense for us to renew the whole thing eventually because of wear and tear. There are other things they could fix but we have to pay for them ourselves. So, it'd be up to us if we wanna do them.

The exhaust fans in the bathroom stopped working and we called American Home Shield. They called a company and the guy came and ordered parts. In about two weeks, he fixed it. He was friendly. But the first time with AHS was a different scenario and we didn’t get any help. We had an air conditioning unit and we have it covered. When we called, they got somebody to come out. They realized we had mold and AHS didn't cover that. Then, the contractor said it was going to take about six weeks to get the part for our 20-year-old air conditioning. So we decided that we needed a brand-new air conditioner. That was a little messed up and it was a situation where I wasn't happy. We have coverage and we ended up paying over $8,000 for a brand-new air conditioning unit.
AHS has been good to respond. But that was a situation I didn't appreciate. I didn't like it. But we needed air conditioner. We live in Florida and it was the month of September and it was 96 degrees out there. They brought us a little unit to help us cool the place down while we were waiting for them to get the new air conditioning that we bought, and then, they put it in. We were able to sleep and cook in the house. But it was a bad experience. American Home Shield didn't do anything for us.
The last experience we had with AHS was a couple of months ago and it wasn't a big deal. It took a while to get the part but we didn't have to spend any extra dollars for that. They're not the best that I've seen but they cover a lot. They tried selling additional services the last time for renewal but we kept the same thing we had for the price. We didn't want to pay extra for whatever they were selling. We pay monthly and then we have to pay a co-payment, and the co-payment just went up.

The thermostat on the wall lost power so I had no AC in the house. I tried to YouTube how to get it off of the wall but I couldn't so I called American Home Shield. The tech from Ace Heating & Cooling came out a couple of days later, popped it off the wall, put it right back on the wall, which is what YouTube told me to do, and the AC came on. I didn't need to call them or pay the deductible so that was a waste of money. But I didn't have any issues with the contractor. The AC guy was awesome.
Submitting claims is simple. I hate to have to do it but it's not tedious, just a couple of minutes. My only issue is, unfortunately, when my stuff breaks, I'm expecting somebody to come out the next day or even the next 48 hours but sometimes I have to wait a week. Also, the price increased from when I initially signed up. They said that they notified me and I can't say that they didn't, but I definitely don't remember it. I checked through emails and things like that for the terms that they notified before sending the new contract but that never happened. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about the company. They've been providing me with whatever I need when I need them and they've covered everything that I've called them about.

I like AHS. They're great. They have flat service fee. There are no hidden payments. I picked it based off of it being a monthly payment instead of one large lump sum and that was nice. A lot of companies don't do that. They usually just want a full year flat out and that doesn't always work. AHS is very understanding and they've kept the same price. There are no premiums that have increased. They also usually get the service within a day or two at the latest. They're a great company. I'm glad we found them down here. LK Appliance came out recently for my claim and the tech was very respectful. He was thorough, timely, and he communicated well during all of it. He was in and out within an hour.

\We've had American Home Shield for about 30 years. I like the availability of contractors and the quality of their work and follow-up with American Home Shield, and the prices. We have an air conditioner that gets overheated easily and burns out the switch. In about every year and a half, we have to have it replaced. They came in knowing the history of it and resolved it right away. But I've had one situation where it was really bad because the only service company they could find was two hours away and we're out in the country. So it made it very difficult for him to be able to follow up after the initial visit. It ended up that we ordered a replacement microwave and got the voucher for it from Lowe's.

My toilet didn't flush properly. I called American Home Shield and they wanted the $125 service fee and they were not doing anything until that went through. So I went for it and they had a plumber come out. He did the exact same thing that I did, which was shove that thing down there and spin it, and manually turn it because I got the biggest one and it was about 15 feet. It did nothing for me, so I called him. The guy came up and said that I probably needed a new toilet. I asked him if he was gonna handle it from here and he said, “Oh, yeah. Sure. Yeah, we'll take care of it.” But that was the last I heard from anybody except for that $125. I reached out to American Home Shield and I got so frustrated with them that I blew it off. But they sent me an email saying that the service call was closed.
I also submitted a claim when I had a water problem and American Home Shield didn't do anything. But fortunately, I know a guy who came out and fixed my water. I had one good experience with them with my air conditioning when I first moved here. They had to do a bunch of stuff, but it was still under warranty, and they went through all of that so it cost me 125 bucks for $1,000 worth of service.

Every time we think we would quit, something big would break. We would say, "Thank God, we got the policy." Our freezer broke. I called American Home Shield. The guy came out and said, "It's broken. You need a new one." So, he put the paperwork through. I watched him. I didn't hear anything for a few days. So, I called. They said, "We were waiting for the repairman to send us info." This girl had me measuring the inside of my dual freezer, which is big, and under the refrigerator. It was awkward and hard. I was not happy with her. She was at home, because all the kids in the background were yelling. I was not happy with that. And our deductible, every time something big broke, either their monthly payment or deductible went up. But we got a new refrigerator.

American Home Shield responded. Typically, whoever they contract with for repairs showed up when stated and make the repairs and going about their business. I only had one contractor that took a minute to get out, but that was during COVID. So, people were shorthanded. I have electronics, dishwasher, washers and dryers, and I could get them repaired within a short period of time and replaced. They have replaced my washer. I called, AHS sent a repair person out and couldn't repair it. So, they put in a claim and a new service person showed up and hooked it up.

It has been tough, but American Home Shield has always come through. A couple of people could not finish the job and I argued with them, "If you can't fix it, the contract is you replace it." I don't care any of the two, but the refrigerator is starting to smell. But they came through and found somebody that was bold enough to go ahead and order and do the due diligence of getting it done. They treated me fair.
I had a problem with the roof a year and a half ago. They sent somebody over that was expensive. I advised them that he's charging them more than what the job really was. I already had two estimates for 800 and 900 and this guy was charged 2,000-something to them. I said, "I'll take care of it. Just reimburse me. Because he's really ripping you off." And they did. They were very kind and reimbursed me. It serves me well. I won't let it go unless they throw me out. It is a benefit. It's a good thing to have. Sometimes, like in any type of business, you're gonna have your back and forth. But they have always done good for me. I have a small leak in the living room and they said they would get back with me. I haven't heard from them back, but these things take time, and they have always come through.

We've been with American Home Shield for a long time. But I took on this one policy for electronics and I'm gonna cancel it because I found out it was also $100 copay. I have a printer that went out, and AHS wanted me to send the whole printer in. That's too much trouble for me. Plus, the 100 bucks. I went down and bought a printer for just over $100. Also, the computer went out. Computers are cheap now. So, I don't know if it's worth having that particular portion of the policy.
In 2015, AHS sent a plumber out, and I had just finished having bypass surgery, so I didn't wanna deal with much. I was the only one here. They ended up selling me a whole process which I hated. Cost a lot of money, and I had to pay for all of that. AHS didn't cover it. That clown sold me all that stuff. But AHS doesn't use them anymore. Other than that, I've been all right with AHS' service for plumbing and air conditioning. I phone them. They usually knew who I am by the tone, the address, and they handle it. Unfortunately, I live in Kerrville and they don't have any electricians or plumbers. They're all in San Antonio. So, I usually get an extended date for them to show up. They fixed a leak.

So far, our experience with American Home Shield is okay. Customer service is good. As far as pricing, I had a deal around $40. Now, it's up to 60, so I don't understand how it got there but it's all good. I had a heat pump situation and they didn't wanna cover it. So, I ended up getting a new one. Hopefully, they'll cover it in case something goes wrong this time. I'll suggest AHS to others and let them know it's working for me.

The experience with American Home Shield has been fabulous. The hardest part was for me to get through their system to talk to a live person. I don’t like doing things on computers. You have to push one for this, and two for that. I finally got smart and hit zero and got right through. So every time I get a live person, I give them my story and my situation, and in five minutes, they've already given me a person who's gonna come out here. I could book the appointment when it works for me, whether I need it right now or if it's convenient next week. Usually, it's within the next few days.
A couple of times, I've had to call somebody back out. My last claim was for my plumbing problem and I just called the tech directly and told him I had the problem still happening. He came right out and fixed it immediately. He didn't give me a problem such as needing to go through American Home Shield. Prior to that, AHS couldn't find the parts because my unit in the shower was very old. I tried having a handyman fix it and he said the parts were old. He called the company that sells them and it was gonna take a few months to come in. He left my house to go down to Home Depot and purchase the stuff down there and came back and installed it. I couldn't ask for a better service.
I went to another service for the first year. It was with my home policy in California and I hated them. This company is amazing. And even when I've called the people out a second time because of a problem, they never complained. I was afraid to call them and then give them a bad mark. But I called them and they came right out. They didn't even argue with me. I was a little scared coming to Arizona because Los Angeles is a bigger area with more people and more businesses. AHS was not gonna be able to find services for me. But I never had that problem. As soon as they get the person, they send you an email with a confirmation with their name, address, and phone number. AHS is great.

Plumbers Incorporated is extremely professional and their tech came and he diagnosed what the issue was and quickly resolved the issue for us. As far as submitting the claim, we did everything through the American Home Shield website. It's not too terrible, but I would prefer if they have an iPhone application. All the professionals that they connected us with are excellent. In terms of the customer service directly with American Home Shield, I only had to deal with them once and it wasn't so very great, especially when we tried to resolve some emergency situation and they didn't really quite explain it very well for the user. I would suggest my friends to get AHS, but I would tell them that it takes at least 24 hours for them to respond. So, it's not great when it's an emergency situation.

In the beginning, American Home Shield was able to fix my drainage as well as the dryer. So, I didn't have to buy a new dryer. They are usually good except for their plumbers. In the last three times, whoever they sent out was not able to unstop my drainage. The plumbers have to go to the top of my house to unstop the drains in my laundry room and all of a sudden, they would tell me they couldn’t go on top of the roof anymore. If they couldn’t, they wouldn’t be able to unstop the drain. Or they would say they need a longer snake. They don’t send anybody back. Then when I call, they would say they couldn't do it after I had paid my $100 for them to come out. So, I had to establish a relationship with a plumber in my community.
I don't even call American Home Shield. Their selection of plumbers doesn’t seem to be compatible with my problem. And my claims are always the plumbing. It's an older house so the piping gets clogged. And the water that should be running out of the washing machine backs up and floods everything. Also, the price has increased over the years without AHS telling you that it has. I'm paying $99 a month now but I started at 50. It's a big increase.

We had an AC issue and a service ticket was created for the unit. The technician came out and according to the tenant, he was very rude and unprofessional. He did not work on the unit because it was a wall unit. When I called American Home Shield, I asked the service rep why the ticket was created if it was a wall unit and that was not covered on the contract. If that's the case, I should have never been charged because the ticket should have never been created. I insisted on speaking with the manager but hung the phone up after the rep refused to present a manager. I called back and spoke to another representative who was very cordial and understanding. We were able to come to a conclusion on that problem and I told her I did not want that tech on any of my jobs moving forward. So she made a notation on the account. It was the worst experience but all my previous experiences were good.

I've had American Home Shield for one year and just signed on again. They have two plans and I have the highest plan. I have only used them twice; both were pleasant and acceptable experiences. But I also had a bad experience with the vendor they sent that was no good at all. But two out of three isn't bad. As soon as you put in a claim, you have to pay $125 upfront before they'll send a technician out. But whatever the problem is, and even if they have to do repeat visits to repair or replace, there's no additional cost. Their slogan is repair or replace. They've always been able to repair and I've been satisfied.
All the contractors were good except one. I had two problems with the side-by-side refrigerator. It's not a state-of-the-art stainless steel refrigerator but a guy's refrigerator that we don't care about. You can open the freezer door so it is straight 90 degrees out or if you have larger stuff you wanna put in there, you open it further, and it stays open all the way to the side. That was how the refrigerator side was supposed to be but it was missing a roller so it would only stay open 90 degrees. If you had to open it further than that, it would always bounce right back to 90 degrees. Another problem with the refrigerator was the temperature was not regulating. I opened it two times and it was room temperature. It had a mind of its own. You would go again and it would be cold, and you would mess around with the controls. But even at 10, it wasn't cold like it should be at 10.
I called American Home Shield and they sent this guy from Adam's Appliance that's right in my neighborhood. The guy was terrible and just went to collect money by being a vendor of American Home Shield. He showed up and said that the door was how it was supposed to be. He was lying. He also said that he couldn’t do anything with the temperature and that AHS was gonna have to send me somebody else to fix that. And that was after $125.
AHS sent somebody else and the person who came was a nice guy, ambitious, experienced, friendly and polite. The other guy couldn't wait to get the hell out of there and wasn't friendly. And then this guy came from American Appliances. He said I was missing a roller on my door and he fixed it. Then, he pulled it out and said that I needed a new part. He said he was gonna run down to his truck and get it, and bring it right up and I would be all done. And that was exactly what he did. My refrigerator is working like brand new right now. The guy from Adam’s Appliance was very unprofessional. I hope he's no longer going to be considered a vendor of American Home Shield.
The problem with AHS is all their policies are designed to protect themselves. They'll tell you they're going to protect you. But their vendors tend to deem a product needs to be replaced all the time. They always go out to people and say they can't fix it. AHS wouldn't like it to be replaced because it's costing a lot of money. So they try hard to repair it multiple times before they replace it. The vendors get a ding against them if they mark it for replacement. If it's their first time marking it for replacement, it's not a problem. American Home Shield might even send somebody else out to confirm that it needs to be replaced. If they determine that it doesn't need to be replaced and the person fixes it, the first company gets a ding against them.

They knew what they were doing and they went on and did the work. I have to buy a new unit, though. They said American Home Shield would not pay for it because my dog urinated on it. It was a part that was corroded. The air unit is outside the home, and it's got insulation around it. The insulation was damaged.
I've used American Home Shield for years and I can't say that I'm very happy because I'm gonna end up having to buy a unit myself. However, if the company they sent out is telling the truth about it and American Home Shield does not warrant that, then I understand why they're not paying for it. Another thing I didn't like is AHS didn't call me and let me know that they weren't insuring it. I waited and then I had to call them for them to tell me that.

Dealing with AHS is like a nightmare. You call them and they put you on some tech support with somebody whose job is just to fight with you. And you just fight with them, then even when they come out to do the repair, they don't do the repair completely. I recently called them for a repair for one of my pipes outside. Their warranty says they'll fix the pipe and whatever attachments there are with it. When the guy came out, he looked at it and said I needed to buy this part and replace it myself. What's the point of the warranty if I'm going to buy it and replace it on my own? But I ended up having to go online to find the part and I finished the repair myself.
I had another claim where AHS was supposed to send out someone when the air conditioning broke. They did this long spiel and I was on the phone with them for a total of five hours with multiple calls. They finally sent a technician, which I had to find on my own because their technician couldn't come in time. Then I had to send them a reimbursement and they sent some of the reimbursement. But it was a long and hard process. I'll probably cancel my policy shortly.

AHS is pretty quick about getting the service techs out here that they recommend and I haven't had any issues with them. I realize that the economy is what it is and the prices have gone up. So my service fee has gone up since I've started with them. But it's compatible to anything else out there, for what I want it for. I could go with a cheaper plan, but I choose not to because I want to make sure stuff is covered in my home. So far, the techs have been great, too. Recently, I had a leak in my pipe in my bathroom and the plumbers are coming out on the 19th. But their rep called me yesterday since they had a slot yesterday evening and she was going to try and fit me in. But we were at work. She then said she was going to try and call me today and see if she could get me in today before I have to leave for my appointment today. But if not, we still got our appointment on the 19th. So I really appreciate that going the extra mile.

American Home Shield is expensive, but we're still sticking with it. I had a claim recently where they charged the $75 fee and sent a service guy out. It worked pretty well. It was for the circuit breakers that were popping in the house and the contractor came within a couple of few days after I sent in my request. It wasn't top emergency but they responded well.
The time before that, I had two different problems with the water heater and the results came out pretty good, too. But I didn't like the company they picked because they never seemed to have parts and I had to wait extra long for the parts to come in. Other than that, everything got fixed and the technicians were all very good. The plumbers, in particular, were very nice and courteous. But they don't have parts and I find that to be troubling. AHS should make that a requirement with some of these places they contract with.

American Home Shield is a nice protection service to have. The price is a little high, but it gives some peace of mind because home repairs can be expensive. What I like most about it is that the research of finding the technician is done for you. If you're just looking online, you never know if somebody is good or not.
Recently, the garbage disposal wasn't working. The regular noise a garbage disposal makes is loud but all of a sudden, it clicked and it was like a humming sound. Prior to that, I had called three times and had different service techs come out because my dishwasher was not draining at the bottom. They had said nothing was wrong, but the issue persisted and I had to pay another service fee again. When I called and complained, American Home Shield waived it one time. This time, I was concerned that those two things were connected, but the tech said that it wasn't. The line was clear. They reset it and showed my husband how to reset it. It works now. I also used American Home Shield for my heater and it was the same thing. It happened a couple of times where the technician didn't fully fix the problem. They came out again and ended up fixing it.

Filing a service request with AHS is pretty easy. But when we had a problem with our refrigerator, it took almost a year to get the part. So it was inconvenient with the freezer not working and it seemed like the part cost more than the refrigerator. So I was trying to get them to settle up, but they didn't settle up and we still had to wait for the part to get here. Luckily, I had another standup freezer in the garage. When the part finally came in, the contractor was able to come within a week and he did a fine job. But after that last claim, AHS had gotten more restrictions on what we can and can't do. They were putting a cap on because we've had too many claims within the last three years and it was three items that they downgraded in the plan. So more than likely, I will be shopping around for another home warranty.

Our refrigerator was not working. We'd have to turn it way up high in order to get it to work, then it was hot around where the seals are. I called AHS and it was easy to submit a claim with them. The person that they assigned came out as soon as they were given the information, and we didn't have a problem with that person. But prior to that, we had some humdinger stories where we had problems with some of the providers that AHS gave to us. One time, it was Thanksgiving weekend and our toilet backed up. We had called AHS earlier that day to try to tell them what was going on. It was an emergency situation and we had a house full of people. They had gotten somebody that would call us and we waited. But nobody called. We called the phone number that they had given us and the people didn't respond. So, we had to get an outside person to come and fix the toilet. But that claim never got settled.
Then we've had several incidents where the providers had been lousy to the extent that AHS had given me a year where they didn't up my premium because the service had been so bad and I had complained about it. Also, $215 is an awful lot. Recently, American Home Shield came in and they partially replaced our furnace and air conditioning because they had been piecemealing it for 15 years. At that time, it was 95 degrees in here if we had heat and if we didn't have it at 95, it wouldn't work at all. That went on for about three months but it was wintertime, so we couldn't turn it off. Aside from that, AHS told us about one price and when we came back, it was a different price. So we ended up having to pay close to $3,000 in order to get our furnace put back in like it was. So this thing about them paying and replacing something completely is not true.
Other than that, most of the representatives that I speak with bend over backwards to take the information and get the request to the provider. In every instance, they have been able to get the information correctly and provide it to the person that's supposed to do the work. But sometimes they are foreign and I don't understand them as well as I would like to. Also, as of late, if we want something done immediately, we get an outside person. Usually, if we can get somebody locally to just come in and do it for us, we'll get them and pay them. And we don't even bother American Home Shield. So we're really paying two companies, so I told my husband that we were going to drop AHS.

When I called American Home Shield, they answered my questions. I asked if the water heater was covered. They said if it was a total repair, which it was, it was covered. The only bummer was, like any other fees, the up to code isn't covered. But it is in the contract, so no fault to American Home Shield. The plumbers that they sent out told us we've got $3000 of things not up to code. When I pressed them to list out in writing what those things were, it turned out they were lying about those things. We ended up not going with them, took the cash payout from American Home Shield, and ended up installing it ourselves. They paid it out quickly. I'd recommend them.

The workers at American Home Shield are nice. They take the assignment nicely. They are usually courteous. It's the contractors that they hire that makes me want to change from AHS because they don't have enough contractors to choose from. They do not care how they treat their AHS customers. If AHS got somebody lazy, they would just tell AHS anything so they would not have to do the work. I could call AHS and tell them what was wrong. And they could say, "Okay, we're gonna send somebody out." I could be standing right there and see what was wrong. But when the contractor would call in, what they would do is say, "I'll be back." They would go outside, call AHS and tell them what they want to tell them. And AHS would say they would not pay the cost. So when I would ask AHS what the contractor told them, I would say, "That's not true." AHS doesn't believe the consumer that's paying them.
The company the person is working for is also affected because AHS would not pay them for something they didn't do. But the companies would hire lazy people who would not want to do that job. So, they would just tell AHS what they would like to tell them. That happened several times. Even though I told American Home Shield what was going on, they wouldn't send out somebody different. They always kept sending back the same person, who would back up what they would say when they lie. I said, "I need you to put them on speakerphone. "That is not true" in front of the person. But they wouldn't send out somebody different. They would just listen to whatever that one person said. I would end up having to pay out of my pocket like I didn't have a home warranty program.
And when the plumber came, I told him what happened to me. He said, "What's the guy name?" He said he went from company to company. He got fired by that one, would go to another one. That's what he does. But AHS doesn't have enough companies representing them covering the warranty. That company would not care because they know that they would not have enough companies to represent AHS. So they know that, "Everybody's gonna come through us." They have no fear of AHS letting them go. AHS needs to hire more companies so that those companies would do a good job for AHS. But if they only have one or two representing a plumbing company, they would not feel they have any competition.
This last time, the contractor said they had to order a part, and my air conditioning was out. It took them over a month. They kept saying, "We can't buy the part" or "The part hasn't come in." I started calling around on my own and people had the part. They said they could get it to me tomorrow. I called the original company and they got mad. If they know that they don't have competition, they treat AHS customers crazy.

However, I didn't know, because I used to have AHS years ago, that they take the money out before the service is completed. I don't appreciate that. Because if the person doesn't do a good job, AHS has already taken the deductible. That must be a change in policy because the one person that I was referred to was a horrible. He put my switches in backwards. Also, the deductible is higher than the competitors. But the tech fixed the situation.

I had a couple of bad experiences. The contractor came out three times to fix the garage. And when the belt messed up and the spring got jammed three times, it broke. Last time I called them, the guy said it's not under warranty and they couldn't fix it. I didn't understand that because if that was not under warranty and they couldn't fix it, why did they come out three times to fix the garage? And I bought a whole new system. It cost me $800. But American Home Shield still took $100.
If it was on the contract to fix it the first, second or the third time, it should have been in the contract. AHS told me if they couldn't do anything with it, they would give me some of the money back to give me half on an item. They didn't do any of that. It was not fair to me that I paid that type of money for the whole new system, and they didn't do anything to compensate me where in the contract indicates that when they couldn't fix the problem, they would give a half percentage on the cost that I got to get the thing repaired. I've been dealing with them for eight years. That gave me false hope. Other than that, the techs are professional. They work with me. Most of the time that they come, it would be quick and easy out the door.

Some of my experiences with American Home Shield have been really great and some have been not so great due to the service provider or the repairperson. With Sears, I had to make four calls for them to come back. Each one missed something else. So it took me four times to get a dryer that worked. The last one finally figured it all out that the other technicians weren't doing everything they were supposed to have been doing. He told me what needed to be done. He did it, but he forgot one piece and put in a belt. It was really an inconvenience because I had to wait for so long to get that.

The claims process is cumbersome because for most of the reps that you get on the phone, English is probably their second language. So there's a language barrier and a lack of understanding which I find a bit frustrating. But that is not the concern that I have. I have another open claim with American Home Shield. I've been without a microwave since March. They keep sending the same company back to replace parts. I told American Home Shield that I don't want the company or the gentleman to come back. He was rude an unprofessional. He took liberties in my kitchen without asking me. But they sent the very same gentleman. It was just blatantly disrespectful.
I told American Home Shield that I wanted the microwave replaced. But I'm still getting text messages saying that the parts have been ordered. I don't want parts. I'm tired of dealing with this. I shouldn't be without a microwave since March. This is June. I've got a rude service man at Astro Appliances that I never ever want to use them again. So, it's been a terrible experience. I'm removing my coverage with American Home Shield. I'm looking for another provider because of this experience with Astro and the microwave. I do not wish to do business with American Home Shield or Astro Appliances anymore because they've not listened to me.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

I did three claims with American Home Shield. The claims were for my dishwasher, my microwave, and my washer and dryer. Early this year, I called American Home Shield to get the top of the frame of my dishwasher replaced, and they sent out a guy from a company. I always videotape what's wrong with my items before the repair person comes out. So I already knew what I needed to be done. The guy came and tried to Krazy Glue the frame on my dishwasher. He broke the memory board on it, then he was gonna look at me in my eyes in my own home and tell me that the installer who installed it when they built my house improperly placed it and they were the reason why it was broken. I told him, "That's a damn lie. Because I checked with them before you came and you are the one that broke it like that."
I had to get my memory board replaced. He told me it would take three weeks and he didn't have the part. He told me it would take four weeks for my struts because he didn't have the part. Early that time when he came, he was also the guy that was American Home Shield's Grade A contractor. They should be Grade 0 because they are no good.
He checked my washer earlier that day when he came after he did the dishwasher. He misdiagnosed my washing machine and said it was the struts, but actually it was the bearings. I don't know anything about that. So I didn't get the bearings replaced, but I got the struts replaced. But all that time, my bearings were going bad. So now, my washer went bad and I had to get that replaced. I had a second opinion to be done for the dishwasher and the washer.
GE came to my house and inspected my brand-new two-year-old dishwasher. They inspected for insertion and the memory board. They had the memory board with them in the truck. They fixed my dishwasher in 15 minutes. They took it out, reinserted it, and there was no issue. I videotaped it while he was doing it. LG came out and diagnosed my washer, but that was too late because the bearings already started to go bad. Then he came back out again to re-look at it and it was the bearings, it wasn't the struts.
Recently my microwave was going and American Home Shield sent out American Appliance Works. Once again, another Grade A contractor should be Grade 0 because the tech told me he didn't know anything about it and that maybe I should call American Home Shield back and get them to get another person to look at it. He kept trying to jury-rig it. He tried to force a universal part to fix it. I went on YouTube and studied it, and I could have fixed my microwave myself. But I'm paying every month to American Home Shield who's supposed to be the greatest company in the world. He could not fix it.
He kept trying to stretch the wires out. He used a universal aftermarket part but I told him, "Don't do that and you can't do that because you have to use a genuine part, the original parts." So he told me, "Well, no, that's not true." I said, "Sir, I'm not gonna argue with you in my house where I pay my mortgage at. I'm gonna get a second opinion and you're done because you're trying to force this piece into my microwave. You're gonna break my microwave." So I told American Home Shield that I wanted a second opinion. GE came out, pulled my microwave out of the inserts of my cabinet, replaced the motor with an original part, and put it back in, and it is working spectacularly now as if nothing was ever wrong. The GE guy did it in less than 12 minutes.
Everything is still working fine. But every single time that someone came out, I was upset. I was stressed out. My washer went bad over two months ago and I just received a check from American Home Shield yesterday. I had to talk to 53 people in the Philippines who kept pushing. I didn't understand what they were saying. But each time I spoke to someone in the United States, they got the ball rolling. When I tried to get back to them, it went back to the Philippines and I could never ever reach them ever again to this very day.
On top of that, the reps in the Philippines kept pushing me to go with the Grade A contractors that American Home Shield has that should be Grade 0. So I kept getting a second opinion. Every single time I got a second opinion from the nationwide vendors, they came into my house and fixed my items in 75% less time than what American Home Shield's so-called Grade A contractors were doing. Every single time one of the American Home Shield contractors came to my house, it was always anywhere from two to six weeks to wait for a part. They didn't know what they were doing. I had to tell them to leave the house.

I had American Home Shield send a contractor to fix my smoke detector several years ago. And another one broke before the contractor got out there that day. Because it was a new claim, even though it was the same thing and the tech had the parts, I had to pay another deductible when he was within 50 feet of it. I was irritated about that.
Recently, the contractor came out and looked at my freezer, washing machine and microwave. The ice dispenser was broken. Ice wouldn't come out. The dryer's light had burned out. And I had a hard time reading the microwave display. I loved the tech very much. He was a family man, and very friendly. He told me that my microwave was aesthetic. And he fixed the dryer on the spot. He showed me where to put in the light bulb and I had one of my own. And he ordered the part for the ice maker. I'm still miffed about the microwave not getting any display. But everything works beautifully. AHS has called a lot for follow-up, which I appreciate. It took a long time to get the part for the freezer. The tech thought it would be a week, but it took two weeks. Other than that, they're okay.

The refrigerator wasn't cooling. The contractor came out and they looked at something. They came to conclude that it may had been something loose and it's cooling now. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield for the most part, but there are certain things that they're real slow about getting to, like anything dealing with your air conditioning. At times, we had to call back several times for the air conditioning. On average, it would be about four sometimes a week. But it's not American Home Shield’s reaction time. It's just having the contractor come out. What I like most about American Home Shield is that when something is bad, they fix it. When something is broken, they replace it. They replaced my dishwasher and stove.

American Home Shield did a good job the first time that I used them. I would have recommended them. But with my second claim, not so much because of the frustration and nobody ever reached out to me to apologize about how long it took. Two different companies came out and I was without a refrigerator for about a month and a half. That's a long time. It was inconvenient because I got two kids and a wife at home. So my experience with American Home Shield wasn't that great. They sent a guy out and he messed with something and said, "Hey, if it don't work, give us a call back."
The refrigerator worked for half a day, and then called them back on Friday and they didn't get to me back till Monday. Home Shield had somebody else reach out to me. Overall, American Home Shield customer service reps were always nice and willing to work with me. But I had to spend over $1,000 let alone on how to eat food because I didn't have a refrigerator. So it was very inconvenient.

The service has been okay. The claim process is very simplistic. American Home Shield doesn't have electrical coverage in my area, but I pay for electrical coverage. That's something that has not been rectified. Also, the subcontractor I've been dealing with is not great. They had to come out multiple times and still haven't fixed the issue. They couldn't figure it out. They keep messing up one to fix the other and it would break. It has been a clown show.

The contractor for the refrigerator came to our house five times until I got so unhappy. I called American Home Shield and asked for another person because the contractor couldn’t figure out the issue. They were changing parts left and right and we were out of the refrigerator for seven months. It was unbelievable. Another company came over and the guy said they were gonna change the compressor, condensing unit and the evaporator again. I said it was brand-new. They just put it in a couple of months ago and he said they were gonna change all those out again. So, when I called AHS, I told them it was time for me to get a new refrigerator. I was asking if they could give me a replacement option so I could get something at least out of it. The maximum they could give was $800 and that's what I got. It was 30% of the price of the refrigerator. They couldn’t give me anything else.
We had a couple of other items that AHS fixed and they were quick. But on this refrigerator, for some reason, they were not helping me out. I was not happy with it but for the other items, AHS was good. The contractor for the clothes dryer fixed it in less than 48 hours. If the guys showed up a couple of times and were unable to fix the issue, AHS would still ask those guys to come back. Don’t waste your time and energy on it. Buy a new one and ask AHS for a cashout option. You're gonna end up paying a lot of money out of your pocket but it's better. I'd rather do that seven months before than wait seven months and then do it later.

We're very pleased with the service and happy with everything. It has paid for itself every year. We've only had one bad experience. A guy came out two years ago to do the pre-summer service on our air conditioner but didn't do a thing. He walked out in the backyard, asked me to turn the AC on for two minutes. I turned it off and he walked off. He didn't do anything and put down on his checklist that he did all those checks. We didn't pay for this. So, I wasn't upset about it.
The year before, we had a gentleman come out. He pulled the panels off the outside compressor, and looked at it while it was running. He was here for almost an hour and a half. This guy was here for five minutes. I took it with a grain of salt. Now, if I had to pay for this, I would've been upset. He cheats American Home Shield like there's no tomorrow. The one guy the year before told me that they got paid $90 to come out and do it. So, he makes $90 in 10 minutes. He probably does that all day every day. AHS said they'd look into it. Other than that, I had some roof repairs done and was very pleased with the outcome. We had our ice maker replaced in our refrigerator. It was fine. We also had a part replaced on our washing machine. It was wonderful.

I'm ready to cancel my American Home Shield insurance. I used it when I first moved in to get the key locks changed. That went okay. But my washing machine has been broken for two months. Part of it has been fixed, but it's not working correctly. The first time the tech went out was to diagnose and figure out what parts he needed. And he came out to install the part. It turned out that the part wasn't a good part. So, he had to order. There were two parts. One part worked, but the other one did not. So, he ordered it a second time. And that one came back. So, he has been here three times.
The washing machine does not fill up correctly. It puts a bit of water in there. And I would have to check it. When I raise the lid and put it down, it would add more water. So, I have to keep checking to make sure that it filled up correctly, because if the water doesn't cover the clothes, I would have to open the lid and put it down, and it would start filling up again. It does that on any cycle. It's supposed to save water, but it doesn't, because if I open it up and the water level is good, it would think that I've added more clothes. So, when I close the lid, it would add more water.
Before, there were two problems with the washer. One is it stopped when it was supposed to rinse. I would have to go in there and jiggle it. That's the part that the tech fixed. I don't have to jiggle it anymore, I have to watch the washer and keep going in there. And it waits water. He said there was nothing more he could do. It's an old machine. And there are no other parts that he could put in there because it's a simple machine. A top-loader.
I called AHS last week. I was very upset because it has been two months on the 10th this has been going on. They said, “We'll get a second opinion.” That made me mad because it has already been two months. I talked to them again. That was a different time. And they said they would call back with options. Nobody has called me. They're waiting for me to go away and still pay my monthly premium. But I'm gonna cancel it because they wouldn't give me the option of the kind of machine that I wanted to replace it with. So, it seems like a scam. They're not helpful. And they don't communicate well with each other, because the guy from JL called them up and told them all of this, that there wasn't anything else left to do, and they said that he never called. I don't believe them. I believe the guy.
When my washing machine didn't get fixed the first time and I didn't call Jim back, I went on the website to look up the phone number. There was a link in there to click on. It said, “Washer still not fixed.” So, I clicked on that and set up another time for them to come out and fix it. They wanted to charge me another service fee, $99, to come out. So, I called them and said, “You're gonna charge me each time they come out when they don't even fix it the first time? That's not right.” She said, “That's our policy.“ I said, “I wanna speak to your supervisor.” “We don't have a supervisor." “You get back to your supervisor and have them give me a call.” So, she said that she would talk to somebody and get back to me.
A day or two went by, and somebody called me. I told them, "I'm not paying two service fees." She said, “You're not supposed to do it through the website.” I said, “Your website told me to.” It's ridiculous. They still have that link on there. I told her, “Then why do you have that link on there if I'm not supposed to use it?” I'm not happy.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

I love American Home Shield. I put in the information that I needed and I got a call the next morning because I may have submitted it late. They're great. The fan is 15 years old and one of the blades flew off. Maybe one of the little brackets had gotten weak and broke off. The tech came and replaced my fan. It was super simple. Everything in my house is 20 years old so techs have come out for water heaters, my washer, my dishwasher and my fans twice as well as for another electrical issue. I also had a leak. And one day, my AC just stopped working. The tech couldn't figure out what it was. They replaced a couple of parts and found out it was a part that they couldn't see. They had to take the entire AC unit apart outside. And now, I basically have a brand-new AC unit. I have recommended AHS many times. Everybody that they sent was great.
When I bought my house, the previous owners, as a gift, gave me a year free of AHS. It was super nice. When I lived in a condo, I didn't even know about the warranty and every time I'd have somebody come out, especially a company, they would always say they couldn't fix the appliance and I would have to replace it. I like that American Home Shield will try to fix and fix without trying to sell you a whole new unit of something. My water heater is 20 years old and it started leaking. AHS said my water heater was great and replaced the heating unit. There was nothing wrong with it. A bigger company would come out and say it’s 20 years old and I need a new one. They wouldn't even try to fix it. I love that I'm not getting screwed over in the long run with people just coming out here saying my unit is too old and that they can't fix it.

American Home Shield doesn’t do what they say they are supposed to do. I've been with them for almost 10 years and they’ve sent some guys out here that wouldn't approve of work being done. I don't call these people that much either and they sent me through the runaround until they finally helped me. I'm still paying them right now but I had to go through hell to get them to fix my pool. They fixed my motor but the heater on the pool is still acting funny. It doesn’t heat up as fast as it used to on my spa and it just started happening nine months ago.
One place that AHS called came out and the tech surveyed the heater. He said it was working good but when I got home, it was making the same noise and wasn’t heating up. I didn't have much time because I was busy so I called again in two months. AHS sent the same guy out and he said it was because I broke it. Then, AHS sent some other guy. I heard that these people that they send are not gonna fix it. They were always gonna decline or reject it. The last person that AHS sent was on point but the first two people they sent to my house in Vegas were bad. They just gave me the runaround and didn't show up when I said I needed them to be here. I took a day off and they didn't show up. They showed up on the day I wasn't there and gave me a bad diagnostic.
I didn’t like the way AHS did that. They made me wait, beg and make all these phone calls, wasting my time. I pay these people a lot of money. I got three houses on them and for them to treat me like that, it wasn't okay. I got two now and I'm gonna disconnect the rest of them if they don't follow through with what they say and what I'm paying for. They offered me some incentives for a newer policy. But I'm still not sure if I'm gonna keep it.

The contractors were true professionals in every sense of the word. They did what they came out here to do and kept me informed of everything that they were doing. The first contractor who came out looked at the machine and said the repair was beyond his technical capabilities so he was gonna pass the buck and that AHS was probably gonna send it to Sears, which they did. When Sears came out, they immediately looked at it. They spun the drum and knew it was the bearing. They were familiar with the product and the complexity of the repair as well as the cost associated with trying to execute a repair of that complexity. So they made the recommendation to replace rather than repair. And American Home Shield concurred with it. The repair people were wonderful.
The first washer AHS wanted to get me wasn't the match for mine. And it was just different. But when I pointed out that it was unacceptable as a replacement, they immediately told me to find the replacement and they would buy it. So, we did. AHS provided us with the funds so we got it replaced. Every interaction I've had with them has been what I expected or more so I'm totally happy with the service. Everything has been above the board.

He let us know he was coming, showed up when he said he would, gave us a quick fix and I was very pleased with his service. Our HVAC was 20 years old and getting hard to find parts for it and inefficient. AHS offered us a deal on a new HVAC system at a reduced rate plus we could pay for it over time. There have been a couple of times we've had to get a service person out here to look at the repair and they had to get approval from American Home Shield. Then, they had to come back to install. My water heater broke and it was leaking water. Instead of just sending the guy out with the water heater and if he thinks it needs to get repaired and do it on the spot, it took over a week for that whole experience to happen. AHS ended up replacing it but there was a lot of red tape.
My rates have gone up but everything has. Other than that, it's fine. I just wish to get the turnaround time quicker from when we call in needing a repair to getting the repair done. On the average, it takes at least a week. The heating element on the stove went out and it took a while to get that part in. Then, when the guy was here replacing it, he broke the part. And it took another long time. About a year later, that heating element went out again and we told them what the problem was. But we had to go through that whole process again versus sending the repairman out with the heating element to replace it right away. So, each time we were without a major appliance for over a week.

My experience with American Home Shield has been largely good. I've had quite a few claims and the most recent claim was a stovetop fix. The best bang for your buck with American Home Shield is that if you have a small issue, they immediately get a subcontractor out there to address it, so you don't have to find one yourself. If it's a bigger issue, then it starts to lose its value. The technicians have all been great. I haven't had a single issue with any of their techs. Overall, with American Home Shield, everything is in one place. The data points as far as all the fixes that you've done are all in one place. I like that you can go to a certain fix and have a tech come back out again under the same ticket. There's good document control, which I like very much. I'm gonna renew AHS.

When D & J Appliances came out, it was one of the worst experiences I ever experienced. They came out to my house about five times. They kept saying there was nothing wrong. They came out to repair my dryer. At first, they said, "Oh, you need to have the dryer vent cleaned." I had that cleaned before they even came. Then they said, "Well, you need to have your dryer vent cleaned." I had a guy clean the dryer vent. He said, "The dryer is working. It's just fine." So I figured, the dryer vent was cleaned. The dryer still wasn't drying. So then they came out again, "Oh, there's something wrong. There is no power. There's something going wrong with the power outlet that the dryer is plugged into."
So, American Home Shield had an electrician come out. The electrician said, "This works just fine. There's nothing wrong with it. It works just fine." They gave the information to my tenant and said, "Hey, if the dryer people come back and they say that it still doesn't work, you can have them call us." So, they came out again. The guy from D & J hung up on me when I called. I said, "This is D & J?" "What can I help you with?" And I said, "Well, I'm calling in regards to Oakland Circle." "Well, I don't know what else to tell you 'cause there's nothing wrong with the dryer. The dryer works fine." I said, "Is it possible that you can come out? 'Cause you keep sending the same tech out and they're saying nothing's wrong with it, but the dryer is not working." He said, "No." I said, "Well, can y'all call me 30 minutes before?" He got smart with me. He hung up the phone.
So I called American Home Shield and said, "Can you send somebody else?" They said, "Well, if we send someone else, then you'll have to pay another deductible." I said, "No. I'm not paying another deductible. This man is rude. He hung up on me. They keep sending the same repair tech out and I shouldn't have to pay for y'all to come out again." American Home Shield was like, "Well, we can't. You'll have to..." I was like, "I'm not paying somebody." So, they sent him out there. He was supposed to call 30 minutes before he came. He didn't call. He got there. I told them to let my tenant know before they came. He banged on the door and she was in the shower. So she said, "Well, hold on just a minute. Just a second." So, she got dressed and came to the door and he was driving off. She said, "Hold on for me, hold on."
He went in there and was like, "You need to hurry up," and "What's going on?" So she said, "Well, the dryer is still not working. And the electrician said, ‘If it's not working, here's the number you can call them.’” She was handing him the flyer and he threw it at her. He said, "I'm not calling anybody." Then she said he broke the knob off the dryer and was like, "Oh, and this knob is broken," and he walked out. She said he was so aggressive that she was gonna call the neighbor next door to come over there because she was there by herself. She felt uncomfortable. I had to apologize to her. I told American Home Shield not to send him back out there because the owner was aggressive.
Finally, when the supervisor called me back, they allowed me to have someone else go out there. I said, "I'm not paying another fee. The man shouldn’t even be on your referral list." So they sent someone else out there from a different company. They were professional. The tech came in and said he had to order a part. There was something wrong with the sensor. He also had to replace the knob that the other guy broke. AHS sent this man from the other company out about five times. I checked reviews and what he did to me was what everybody talked about in the reviews. They said they come and they're not fixing anything. They never come back. They don't answer the phone. They're rude. I told AHS, "I'm looking for another warranty company. I'm never gonna deal with that again." I've had AHS for over 10 years and I've never experienced what I've been through. It was awful.

The little plug-in part of our electric stove was not working and it caught fire. So we reported it to American Home Shield. The contractor that they assigned asked me to take a picture of the inside of it and report the model number. When they came out, they had the part that plugs right back in. They were there for a few minutes and they were gone. They were so efficient. My husband was with the contractor that came out for the furnace. They went upstairs and looked at the furnace and said the issue was something with the cords. They were able to determine which one it was with the little stuff they used to test. It did not take them long either and they were done and gone.
American Home Shield's website is nice. One thing that I learned when I got ready to use it was if you had three trades within the same area, it was only one charge. You didn't have to pay $100 for each thing. I've had other home warranties that didn't necessarily tell me that. So I like it a lot. The only thing that I don't like is that they're a little bit more expensive than some of the other companies. But American Home Shield sends out quality people and when they finish, they're good. I've only had one bad experience and that was Sears.

The garbage disposal started smoking and then it didn't work. Submitting the claim was really easy. The contractor sent me a text and the tech that came out was great. He was very personable. He explained what was happening. There was a little bit of delay in finding the correct size, but he stayed on top of that. He showed back up the next day and put the new one in. American Home Shield takes pretty good care of you. I haven't had any problems and the people show up. They're nice and they take care of the issues.

American Home Shield is horrible. I'm thinking about cancelling my contract with them. When I had a problem with my refrigerator, the company that they sent out to fix it broke it. I had a service before I left for the weekend and when I came back, my refrigerator completely stopped working. All the food in the freezer in the fridge began to rot. When I got ahold of American Home Shield, they said that that was the responsibility of the company that came out to repair it, and that I needed to file a claim with them. When I got ahold of that company, they said no. I had about $400 worth of groceries in the fridge and the freezer.
American Home Shield told me I needed to talk to the company. The company that came out to repair it told me I needed to talk to American Home Shield. My fridge still wasn't fixed. When I was trying to get it fixed, they wanted to send the same company out. I said, no. So they scheduled me with a company that was here in the Coachella Valley instead of having them come from an hour away. Eventually, it was repaired. They had one little piece that they had to replace. American Home Shield is not responsive. You are calling a foreign call center. So for some reason, they didn't understand what some of the problems were.

The roof needed to be replaced. I did the claim online and the process was fine. It took American Home Shield forever to send a check to cover it, but it eventually got there. But for anything that I've called them for, it was an easy fix. Paying $75 for someone to come out and get a new replacement faucet without an issue is a great service and I would use them again when I buy another house.

We have had problems with our HVAC unit, and we’ve had another company come out that was contracted with American Home Shield about a month prior. They did not do what they were supposed to do, so I contacted American Home Shield, and they sent out Baskett’s. They confirmed that things weren't done properly and that we needed a new unit. They worked with American Home Shield to get us a new unit. Also, American Home Shield refunded us what we had paid for the previous company that came out that didn't do what needed to be done. So it was a great experience. It was fast, and they did a good job.

My experience was not good because American Home Shield sent three different people, and all three of them said that they do not deal with the brand I have, which is a Sub-Zero. That was a waste of time and a headache. Finally, American Home Shield asked me to call a local vendor to try to fix it, and they'll pay for the bill. I did not have any luck yet but I'm looking for more vendors.
The first vendor that American Home Shield sent said that they were working on it. Then they sent a second one, and it was the same thing. I called AHS again and they said they were working for another one. They tried the third one. The third one called me and asked for the brand. They did not even bother showing up. I called AHS and they said they were going to look for more vendors. And after a few days, I got a call from them and a follow-up email saying, "Sorry, we could not find any vendor. So please, you find one and try to have it repaired."
When I bought this house, the house came with the warranty. And when I had couple of issues, I called them and had a very good experience. So, I decided to keep it. Every year, I renew it. This year, I upgraded to the upper level so that I get a better service. Overall, I have a very good experience with the American Home Shield. Eventually, they get the job done and they take care of most of the issues. Sometimes, communication is the issue. The person on the other side does not speak very good English. The other problem is the three times that they contacted different vendors. What happens is the vendor comes. They schedule an appointment. They come, and then they contact American Home Shield. They do not contact me.
American Home Shield never volunteers and reaches out to me to say, "Look, the vendor did not do the job, and they are not interested. Or they do not deal with that brand. So we are working on your request. And we're gonna send another vendor." I always do not hear from them. So, I called American Home Shield and say, "Hey, that vendor came, inspected the product, and then left, and I did not hear back." If I called the vendor, they would say, "Oh, you should have received a call from American Home Shield. Because we told them that we don't wanna deal with that brand."
When I call American Home Shield, I always hear, "Oh yeah, yeah. Actually, yeah, we did." Someone should reach out to me and communicate. Once, I was waiting and waiting, and six months passed. Then when I called for one plumbing issue, they said, "Now you have to pay another $100 deductible because your deductible is valid for six months." I said, "I called you several times and you said somebody is working on it. What was I supposed to do?" They said, "Oh, no, no. But still, six months passed by and you lost your deductible. Now you need to pay $100 again so that we can send a plumber again." I was not happy at all. Other than that, they take good care of all other issues, and I'm very satisfied.

I was not happy with American Home Shield. I would not recommend them to anybody. What happened to me on one particular property was, I was led to believe when I purchased the home coverage that air conditioning was covered to a certain extent. And at one point, we had problems with the air conditioning. They sent out a contractor who confirmed that the condenser and the coil needed to be replaced. But then he added a laundry list of things that also needed to be done. It added up to several thousand dollars on top of what Home Shield was gonna cover. We didn't agree with it. And by the time I got the report, it had already been two weeks before I got the information. When I asked for a second opinion, Home Shield said, "Oh, you're past your timeframe. It's only seven days."
I said, "Well, I didn't get the information within the timeframe allotted me to request a second opinion." I hired an independent contractor, an AC guy, to come out and look at everything and get an estimate from him for repairs and what needed to be replaced. Once he gave me that, I shared with him what the other company said from American Home Shield. He said it was ridiculous. This company will have you replace things that don't need to be replaced.
I didn't renew my coverage with Home Shield. I'll never go back to them. They don't stand behind what they say. They said they would pay out the claim for a little over $1,000. A condenser is $6,000. I was misinformed when I first purchased the policy as to what would be covered. Then when I did make a claim, the song and dance about this contractor totally padded what work was needed to be done. I even let Home Shield know. They said, "Okay, thank you. We appreciate you giving us that information." They said they would inform someone, but it probably never happened. I also had them come out to my house because my ceiling fan wasn't working. I fixed it. When I tried to cancel the call, I couldn't cancel it and the guy came out. He turned the switch on, it came on, and he left.

American Water Works came out for a water heater claim. They told me one of the switches was wrong and the older one was outdated. They said for it to get a new switch, they had to order a new water heater. The guy seemed to know what he was talking about. They replaced it and it seems to be working now. I haven't had any issues with American Home Shield, but if you hire them, they subcontract and you can't use your own people. They pick the people that they use and they may not be using companies that are a 10 out of a 10. I think the client should be given a choice. But everybody that has come has been competent and they know what they're doing. It's a good service to have.

But Ambient Air did an amazing job and when it messed up again, they came back out for no charge at all. Both of the techs that came out were amazing and we've had no more problems since then. My oven wasn't working. SAVVY TECH said it had two codes, one of them could be a sensor, and one of them was the main power. So, they tried replacing the sensor and that did nothing. It didn't fix the problem. Then they said they would call American Home Shield. When I talked to American Home Shield, they didn't have the report from SAVVY. Then I got a card that they closed the case. I was going, "Wait a minute. You can't close the case. The oven is still not working." This has been going on for three months. It was a long time.
My oven was built-in. It's a wall oven and the replacement they offered doesn't fit in the hole. They said, "Well, that's your problem. Not ours." The rep from American Home Shield was kind of curt. She said, "You have two options. Because the one we offered you, you're not taking, you can get a Lowe's Home Depot card, and you can go buy one at Lowe's and have it installed or you can get the money." I said, "I'll take the money and I'll go shop." Obviously, they couldn't find one, so how am I supposed to? So they said they had 21 days, and then they would send me the money. I've never seen the money.
I don't have a lot of extra time to fool around with things. That's why I have American Home Shield. If something breaks, they fix it. I've had them for 27 years. They came with the house when I bought the house and then I paid for it. Over 27 years, they've more than doubled their prices, and they more than halved their services. For years, they were perfect. When my dishwasher went out, they put a new one in. When my refrigerator went out, they put a new one in. Now the last time the refrigerator went out, they didn't put a new one in. They sent me money to go buy one. So, what I was expecting this time with the oven was they were just gonna send me the money and I go buy one , but they haven't sent it so far and I haven't followed up on it because I got 15,000 other things to follow up on first.

I used AHS for an AC claim and it was very prompt. I got an email right away and a little while later, I got a call to confirm a schedule and then a text message. Whoever set up that process did a solid job. Greenway Home Services came out and they were professional. They diagnosed the issue in 15 minutes and the unit was filled up with more coolant in 10 minutes. I paid a deductible, but the service charge was free after that and I didn't pay anything for the coolant. The price is fair in light of what they cover -- the ratio of what I pay versus what potentially could go wrong. If I were to pay all this out of pocket, it would have been 400.

The company came out to look at my oven and they diagnosed it. I’m the owner but I rent the place out and I found out from my property management and the people living in there that the issue was gonna be taken care of. The company was ordering parts. A couple of days later, they said the parts would take about a week. I was checking my email and I got on my American Home Shield portal and it said, “Service request”. I was looking at it and it said, “Uncovered expenses.” I opened that up, which no one called me about, and it gave me some ridiculous diagnosis about having the oven left on too high. I Googled it and looked into it and found nothing about that being the case for what the techs were saying they were gonna replace.

AHS has been great and filing a claim with them has been very easy. They've been very responsive and the subcontractors that have been provided have done good work. When they came for the hot water heater, they detected the issue and it turned out that I had to get a new one. They got the new unit and put it in within a couple weeks. It had to be up to some additional code requirements that I had to pay for but they covered the actual item. The techs who came out were very pleasant, polite, and professional. Their work area was left just as they found it and they cleaned up all the mess of the installation. The new unit has been working great so far. When I bought the warranty, there was no pressure from the AHS sales rep, so I appreciated that. They explained what I was going to get and I got the value. The service has held up to what they said it would be.

The company that AHS contracted with came out to put in Freon inside my AC unit, then they charged me $900 and didn't fix it correctly. I called AHS and told them that I wanted my money back. They said that was between me and the contractor. They said the only thing they could do was send me another company to fix it. So, they sent me another company and I paid the other company $1,000. They said they had to refill the AC unit refrigerant again because the first company didn't fix it correctly. If they did put some Freon, it leaked, but they might have not put it at all. It took them six weeks to fix my AC and it was in the middle of summer. I also had to pay another contracting company to put those temporary ACs. That was my worst experience with AHS.
But they have fixed other things besides the AC. For my plumbing issue, I called them and they were going to give me the bad company that had stolen my $900, so I refused to have that company out. I don't ever want AHS to send them out, so they assigned me another one that I’ve had a good experience with and I was happy that they did that. That company came out within 24 hours and fixed my plumbing issue. They were prompt, too. All in all, AHS needs to do better screening of their contractors. But their customer service is good. Also, I use their online tools which are pretty informative and easy to navigate.

The ceiling fan quit working and the contractor took two days to contact me after I called American Home Shield. Then, it took three days to get out to my house. They seemed to be busy. It was just the ceiling fan but if it had been an AC unit, that would have been too long a wait. But the tech did a great job. He checked out the fan to see what was wrong with it. A component stopped it from working and the only way to fix it was to buy the fan. So, it was replaced. I was given choices and a bracket that AHS approved. Then I had to pick out a fan. AHS is a good way to go. They’re very easy to deal with and I don't have to talk to a lot of people. I just call and leave the recorded message. They give me some info and somebody calls me. They come out and take care of the situation.

It took so long to get somebody out here for my claim on my refrigerator. The first guy who came couldn't fix it and said that he had to order a part. So, he ordered the part and told me it would be here that following Friday. he was here on a Tuesday. But the part didn't come until the following week, then it took me another week to get a serviceman out. And when that serviceman came, it turned out that the first serviceman ordered the wrong part. It turned out that it was the freezer fan that went out. So, they had to order another part. At the time, I kept calling American Home Shield to ask them to find somebody that could fix it, so the lady, who was a supervisor, that I worked with, credited me the $99 that I paid for that service call. But the point of it was I was without a refrigerator for almost three weeks and I had to throw away a lot of food, which I wasn't reimbursed for.
Then, after I went out of town and came back within a couple of days, they sent about four boxes to my house, but none of them was the right part. So, when the last service man came out, I told him that I didn't want those parts as I couldn't do anything with them. He said he didn't know what to do with them. But I told him that he was not going to leave these boxes in my home, so he finally took them. SO my issue is with the company that AHS uses and that they don't have another backup. Other than that, so far, everything's been good.
I've had AHS techs out for a couple of other things. One was my furnace and I wasn't pleased with that experience either because of the people that AHS were contracting with. When you're without a washer, dryer, or your furnace in the winter, and you got to wait five days for somebody to come out, that's not acceptable. Aside from that, I had a guy that came out and fixed my dryer, which I didn't have a problem with.

American Home Shield is a good deal. They recently sent out Advanced Plumbing & Mechanical to work on my AC. They replaced the line and it went very well. Most of my dealings have been with Advanced Plumbing, and the plumber is excellent. There was one time when I had a problem with my washing machine and I called in. I was supposed to have a company from Hays come out and look at my machine. I was very dissatisfied with them. Every time I called them, there was another excuse why they couldn't come. I have a stacked washer and dryer, and they didn't wanna deal with it. I finally called American Home Shield back and told them I either wanted someone or for them to refund my service fee. They sent someone from Wilson that came out and looked at it.

Alchemist Pool Service was punctual. They replaced the motor that had been replaced several times by a previous company. Out of 1 out of 10, I give them a 10. The previous pool person, J & J, was terrible at fixing things. They showed up with used parts out of the back of their truck. In the end, you'll get things fixed, but most likely, you'll have to fight along the way to get it done. J & J Pools was still the first one that American Home Shield recommended until I called back and threw a fit.
I've tried to get my dishwasher fixed with American Home Shield for years. They kept sending the same repairman out. If they can replace one little part, they'll do it. Until finally, the heating element on my dishwasher got stuck and my house filled up with smoke. At that point, they finally replaced it. Over the years, the compressor on my air conditioner went out. They asked if I have my air conditioner serviced to which I told them yes. They said the person who came and serviced my air conditioner didn't put an air filter dryer on. But I happen to have a friend who owns an air conditioning company and gave him the information. He did some research and told me back when my house was built in 2001, they didn't have air filter dryers.
Some of the contractors such as Alchemist and different plumbing people have been great. But even their own contractors will tell you that they're instructed to just replace a part. With the water heater, you can't have somebody out to send just one little piece of copper in between all the other pieces that are only gonna leak the same way that piece leaked because it's made of the same material.
I left them last month. They'll do whatever they can to not fix the problem. They fix it as cheaply as they possibly can. When you've been with somebody for 20 plus years, you expect some kind of service. If a certain part keeps breaking and they keep sending the same people out to do the same thing multiple times and I've gotta pay my $75 fee over and over, there's something wrong with that. Also, when I call American Home Shield, I talk to someone in a call center from another country. It's very frustrating. We can't understand them and they can't understand us. That's terrible on both ends.

I went with AHS because they acquired One guard. One guard was a great company. I'm actually very sad that such a great company was acquired by a company that is not customer first minded. Long story short the first time I reached out to AHS is about an issue I'm having with a vendor Consolidated Mechanical Contractors. This company came to my home 3x in one week.
Tuesday Morning said everything is fixed now granted the original service order was to check to see why my zones in the home are not cooling the same. Monday evening realized my A/C isn't working at all. It's 110 outside. Wednesday Consolidated Mechanical Contractors come out, we have a leak and someone will be out on Thursday to fix. Thursday Consolidated Mechanical Contractors show up and say they think it's a coil and it might need to be repaired, possibly also a leak but not for sure but they will have someone give me a call. Well guess what no call.
I call AHS and they explained they will reach out to the vendor, who said that they will need to take the part see if they can repair it and it will take 72hrs, reminder I'm in the desert in the summer. It is HOT! Average temp 108 high 114. AHS is not about helping their customers who pay them faithfully monthly to help warranty their home. I can not wait a week for A/C this is not acceptable.
AHS is not helpful and Consolidated Mechanical Contractors I'm not sure if they are a new company but I'm surprised any home Warranty company would contract with them based on their reviews. I feel that this company either purposely caused an issue because they did not do their due diligence when they first came out to diagnosis the problem if there truly was a problem. CONSUMERS BEWARE WHO YOU HAVE COME SERVICE YOUR HOME. Lesson learned I put trust in a warranty company who did not do their homework. Do not buy from AHS. Run and find a new home warranty. This company and their vendors are ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

Don’t waste your money! It is known that AHS repair companies are incentivized to “find” issues for them to deny claims. I have had AHS for almost 3 years. My HVAC system went out at the beginning of May. I filed a claim and paid my service fee. Their representative came out and provided a bogus explanation for why the compressor needed replaced and AHS denied the repair. I had not 1, but 2, other independent HVAC companies come out who provided in writing that the AHS repair company was incorrect. I reported to BBB and AHS is still denying the claim. Plus they won’t stop charging me for service! Horrible company!

I purchased my home on 4/26/24. I called AHS because I was told they offered services for water tanks. I called to make sure and I was told by the representative yes they do service water tanks. I then signed up for the service contract. Paid $68.75 to begin. I was transferred to the service department for scheduling. They told me they DO NOT service water tanks. I said, "I do not wish to have a contract with AHS. Please refund me and cancel." They denied to refund me even though it was the same day that I signed up.
I disputed with my bank but no results. Then AHS calls me for the next month's payment. They charged me double when I signed up as you can see in the picture. I told them to use the extra payment for May's payment and they said the double payment was for MARCH and APRIL. I DID NOT LIVE IN THIS HOUSE IN MARCH! They did not apply the extra payment to May nor did they refund me nor did they cancel my contract. So right now all they keep doing is calling me for payment. Such a rip off and would not recommend to anyone! I am a new home owner and can not afford to paying double of anything at the moment which they could care less about. They got 2 payments from me for absolutely nothing.

We called American Home Shield when our washing machine had a minor leak. We paid the $125 for the maintenance people to come out. They inspected it and got whatever part it was that they thought needed to be fixed. They went in, checked it again, and it was a different part. It took them a little bit, but they got it completely fixed. It no longer leaks.
We also had a fridge compressor that went out. We called American Home Shield again, paid the $125, and the maintenance person came out and inspected it. They said that they were gonna send another person out to confirm, which was fine. We were only down a fridge for about a week. The repairman said, "We can replace the compressor, but once the compressor goes out on a fridge, you're talking all kinds of other parts are probably gonna go bad. We'll have to keep coming out and you'll have to keep spending money on it." American Home Shield decided that it was more of a value for them to replace our fridge completely so they gave us an option for a Lowe's gift card. The brand-new fridge was delivered and installed, and everything works great with it.

Active Appliance came out on Thursday. I had a good experience with them. The issue was a control panel on our washing machine. They changed it out. They did a great job. Active Appliance did a great job. But they were the fourth company that American Home Shield sent out. I was very unhappy with it. It took six months to repair the washing machine.
I placed the claim originally in November. AHS sent a company out, the company looked at it and ordered a part. It took two months for the part to come. When they came to bring it, it was the wrong part. So, they said they would order another part. A week later, I got a call from AHS that said, "That company can't fix it. We're gonna send a different company out." They sent another. That company came out, looked at it. I waited a month. They said, "Oh, we can't fix it." And we went back and forth. It took five months to fix. Eventually, AHS sent Active Appliance out. The guy looked at it, ordered the part, a week later, the part was in, he put it in, life was great.
I'd still recommend AHS. It's not an easy thing that they do and I understand some of it. Over the years, I've had good experience with them. Sometimes they get a little sneaky on me to try to get around things. But that's within their rules. The best thing about it is I could just make a phone call, get a contractor out for 100 bucks, and they would fix whatever it is.

American Home Shield's website is workable. My bigger problem is, I don't feel they look out for me. I'm about to have a faucet replaced that was a $400 faucet when it was purchased 12 years ago. It would cost $400 just to replace the part that was broken, but they couldn't get the part. All of a sudden, they're replacing the faucet with a $200 faucet, $200 today. Peerless, bottom of the line. And there is nothing I could do about it because AHS allows them a three times markup. I am very dissatisfied with AHS.
I had a plumbing issue. In order to resolve it, the contractor had to create access. That is a terrible word in home repair, access, which meant they had to come through the wall of my living room. They did, and put a craggy hole in there and said, "American Home Shield will replace this." Guess what AHS did? They gave a flat piece of sheetrock that didn't match. It's their job to match it up with the rest. Same with ceilings. They would not texture them. They would replace that piece of sheetrock, but only to cover the hole. I would have to call a private person to come out and finish the job they didn't start. I pay $100 a month for this privilege.
My ice maker and freezer were dysfunctional. A guy came out and said, "We have to replace your ice maker." I asked, "What about the ice on the back of the frost-free freezer though?" "Yeah. They'll fix everything. Clear out the refrigerator 24 hours ahead of time. It needs to thaw." I did that. A gentleman came out and installed the ice maker, was surprised that I had thawed it. But that was what I was told to do. He replaced the ice maker. He came back, said, "They didn't include it with this. I have to replace them." I said, "Okay. And that's gonna fix the ice on the back?" He said, "No. That's a bigger problem." I said, "Wait a minute. 'Cause the ice was on there when it was here before." So, they misdiagnosed it.
He put in for the part that would actually fix the problem. AHS sent me an email and said, "So sorry. We can't get that part anymore. But look, we've made a place that rebuilds them. So let us know when you want us to come and get the part. And then we should have it back in two to three weeks." So, I'm supposed to go without a refrigerator in the middle of Texas for two to three weeks. The other option was, I could replace my refrigerator, and they would give me $267 because that is what they would pay to fix the part. So I can buy a $1,300 refrigerator, and they would give me a couple of 100 bucks back. They have found a way to not honor replacing appliances. It doesn't matter the level of inconvenience to me because there is no way I can live in the State of Texas for three weeks with no refrigeration, anywhere in the country unless you live in Canada. Our society is not set up to live that way.
There was a piece of me that wanted to just go ahead and call Costco and have them bring me a small refrigerator just to put out in the garage until they could get this thing fixed just to make them do the work. And Costco would turn around and come and get that refrigerator because that's how agreeable they are. They don't even care why you don't want it anymore. Almost did it. My husband wouldn't let me do it. But I wanted to do it just to make them do the work. Instead, I'm out another $1,100, which is almost a year's worth of premiums. $1,100 to replace the refrigerator that they refuse to replace. And that is their go-to. People hate working for them. Don't do it.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Please know that I'd like to look into this further. Send your contact information to consumeraffairs@ahs.com and I'll be back in touch with you soon.

The spring broke on our garage door and we called American Home Shield. They said if the garage door is damaged, they would take care of it but the springs are not covered. So, we hired somebody to come out and it cost me about $400. Then, the garage door opener started smoking and the guy came out. We were talking to him and for some reason, my wife found out that the spring was covered. So, we got the contract out and sure enough, it was covered. So we called AHS back and they said they were sorry. I asked about giving us our money back and they said they couldn’t do that. That left a bad taste in our mouths big time. AHS sent out a guy here from GE Appliances who knew what he was doing but all the other ones were like a mom-and-pop. They may or may not know how to fix it.
We had a situation on our air conditioning units where I'd be sitting in the family room and it would get warm. The thermostat was 76 but it was on 72. That didn’t make sense. If we set it to 72, it should run until it gets to 72 and then kick off. And then if it gets to 73, it kicks on for a few minutes and gets back to 72. That's the whole purpose of the thermostat. So, we called American Home Shield. The techs never made an appointment. They said they were already in LA Grange and asked if it would be alright if they came by. We told them we were not home but we could get home in about half an hour and that he could check everything. The guy said he would eat lunch first. He came and he didn't have any sign on his car. It was an older gentleman and there was another guy sitting in the car but he did not get out.
The guy checked the air conditioning unit outside. He took the air conditioning unit apart and he came back in the house and said he replaced the solenoid and didn't charge us for that. But he put in one and a half pounds of Freon and that was gonna cost me $135. I didn't know anything about that and he said if I look in my contract, it says that AHS will pay up to $10 on Freon. And it was $145. So we owe him $135. I said I'm not hard to get along with. I'm fair. If you work and I owe you something, I'm gonna pay you. That's just the way I am. But we made this appointment and we told AHS what the air conditioning unit. You would have thought they would have said that if the tech has to put Freon in there, it's gonna cost me. And Freon is $100 for a pound. The guy put a pound and a half so it ended up costing me $135 instead of $145 because AHS paid $10.
I told the repairman it was probably my fault because I should have been out there when he put the Freon in. At least, I would have known he did that. He could come up here and say he put four pounds of Freon in there and I owe him $450 and I wouldn't know the difference. He agreed with me. I said it sucks but I don't know if he put a pound in it, a pound and a half or nothing. He could have replaced the capacitor like he said, and that has been it. We didn't argue. But he was very nice and we were nice with him. He kept going out to the truck and talked to this older guy that his boss and then, they came back in and said they were gonna call AHS. We said okay so they did.
One lady told my wife that the techs were supposed to tell us what the price was gonna be, call American Home Shield and tell them first. And they didn't do that. They just put a pound and a half of Freon and charged us. This is a little aggravating. We wrote the guy a check for $135 and we didn't scream or holler. Fair is fair. But it would have been nice if American Home Shield would have told us what was gonna happen. It'd be nice to know that. AHS seems to be good and the only problem I have with them is they send some people out here that I'm not sure are licensed.

Sometimes, they send out contractors who don't know what they're doing and don't speak English, but they end up sending out a person who is good, like a different company. Then it all ends up working out fine. For my refrigerator claim, the ice maker went bad. Another time, my claim was for a washer and they sent out a guy who said that I damaged my washer, but all I did was clean clothes in it. Then they sent out a GE technician who knew what he was doing and handled it the proper way.

I had a water pipe leak underneath my home. That wasn't covered by my American Home Shield. But after that was repaired, it caused all three of my toilets in the bathroom to have different issues. One of my toilets continuously ran. On one, the pressure had decreased. When I flush it, it wouldn't move as fast as it used to. And one of my toilets wasn't filling up in the tank. So, I had three different problems. But I covered that all under one American Home Shield claim.
I submitted for the payment. Hoosier Plumbing came out. One of the toilets that kept running, the tech repaired the toilet ring, which is under the toilet. He also repaired that contraption that is in the tank. That same contraption is what he also repaired on the other two toilets. My problem appeared to be fixed for a couple of days. But on the toilet that originally was running now, instead of not filling, it did the running thing. So, I called them back. The tech told me I needed to call AHS.
It took him a couple of days to get back to me because it was the weekend when I made the initial call back to him. And when he got back to me, he told me it was almost like the problems had subsided a bit. And he told me that if he came back out there and nothing was wrong, it would defeat the purpose of coming. So at that time, he didn't come back out again. It has been 34 days since he returned. So, I called them back because one of my toilets is not constantly running, but it runs sometimes when you haven't recently flushed it.
I called them back thinking this would have to be related to the fix or since it was fixed recently, they should be able to come back out and try it out or check it out for me. They told me they had no record of when I had initially called them back, even though when I thought I would continue to have problems and I reached back out to them. And she said because it was six weeks, but I did the calculations myself. She counted off of when I made my payment. But you make your payment and it may take them up to 48 hours to give you a call back to schedule your appointment with the actual contractor. So, the date she based hers off of was not the date that I got service. And she said she had no record of the call, where I called back to report that I thought I still was having problems. And they told me I would have to pay the deductible again if I wanted them to revisit. That was a sour experience.
It took the contractor two days to schedule me an appointment. So, with four days, past the 30 days limit. And we didn't know that it was a problem because it wasn't constantly running. It was just at some period, I may or may not be in the room to hear it happen at some periods. I would just hear the water in the toilet. Even though I haven't flushed it or haven't done anything to it. Even when I sit on the toilet, the water will run through sometimes. So, it seemed like the problem didn't start until that fix. That's why I thought that they would be able to kind help me take care of that, but not so much.
I've had water heater problems, furnace problems, dishwasher, and those claims ran smoothly. But in my most recent interaction, not so much. Even with the other interactions, the contractor would only fix what I said was wrong, but it might be other problems. They should analyze it more and be more suggestive with the repairs. Otherwise, AHS has been prompt in getting stuff scheduled and the logistics of it all.
Dear Kia, I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss this further. Sincerely, Mariah

It is easy to file a claim, and American Home Shield typically honors the warranties. It is a little slow to get the parts replaced. They will replace the parts, but it would be, “We're not gonna try to push it forward anymore. We’ve ordered the part. When the part comes in, we'll replace it. Doesn't matter how long that is.” But they will cover repairs to equipment even if you weren't the ones that put it in.
I logged in on the AHS website and clicked on “I have an issue” or “Request service,” and put on HVAC, then AC, said it wasn't cooling, and hit “Submit.” People at the office called, came out and fixed the issue quickly. However, what they did was not the permanent fix. It was just a temporary fix and it failed a month later. They replaced an electrical capacitor that fed the compressor, and it got it to keep working. But I just called for service again, and a different company looked at it and said, “The capacitor was replaced and it might have jump started the compressor a bit to keep it going, but the compressor was what was actually failing.” So, the compressor fully died and is not working anymore. It needs to be replaced. But they tried. At least they got the AC to work temporarily.

I had a short in a chandelier light in my kitchen-dining room combination. I also put in a request for American Home Shield to look at what seemed to be a short in the canister lights in my master. I thought the master was a dimmer switch, but I learned from Kelley Brothers that it wasn't a dimmer. Something was going on with the switch that needed to be replaced. So, they fixed that. There was also a breaker panel situation with the dining room light. They fixed that. They had to replace the fuse, and put in an actual new light for me to flick it on and off inside the house. And that light is on a dimmer. So when they came the first time, they fixed the light, put the fuse, but didn't do the dimmer part. They had to buy a new knob for it to dim.
We knew it was supposed to be on the dimmer, but with all the in and outside of the house back and forth, it got away from us that that light was on a dimmer switch. So I called them to say, "We forgot the dimmer part." He said, "We better come back." And it turned out I needed to replace the knob when they came back. The visit was excellent. Service was great. Everything I've needed, AHS has followed through. And the contractors they sent have been helpful. I appreciated this go-around and the renewal process that I was able to upgrade my package. I'm not certain of the difference between the plans because I just renewed, but I like that I was able to upgrade. It seemed reasonably priced and there was another alternative than the basic plan.

I like that American Home Shield covers a lot of things within my home. I noticed that it doesn't cover everything. Although I pay $100 for a deductible, in most cases, when things have to get fixed, if it's not something simple, I still come out of pocket hundreds of extra dollars. I have lost power to outlets around my house. The fan upstairs, light upstairs and one room wasn't working, outlets within the upstairs bathroom and downstairs bathroom wasn't working. Also outside, it wasn't working. The contractor just identified that the circuit had tripped in the breaker box. And because it wasn't like a normal trip-looking, they just flipped it and it's working now. They educated me on what happened and how to fix it in the future.

American Home Shield is not very quick on getting the claims handled. The contractor came out to look at my stove. The guy was very rude. I couldn't understand what he was saying because he's from another country and the communication was horrible. My dogs were in another room barking and he was mad because the dogs were barking. I wasn't happy. He didn't do much. He just said that he would have someone else call, and they called back and said they couldn't get the part. Another company came out, got the part, fixed it and that was it. Right after that, my dryer went up and I'm still waiting on a call back from the first company.

I called American Home Shield and it was discovered that I needed a coil for my air conditioner. Every time I call American Home Shield, there's a different story. Last week, I was told the part would be in on the 31st. This was the fourth delivery date. When it was supposed to come on the 31st, it was delivered to the wrong person. It wasn't delivered to the contractor and AHS tried to make it seem like it was the contractor's fault. But after talking to AHS, I realized it was on their end. They wouldn't let me speak to the manager that day.
On Monday, I called back because I never heard from anyone and it's 86 degrees in Kentucky, and my house is burning up. They said the part was ordered on the 29th and it would be in one to five days. And here we are in June and still no part. I called AHS around 6:30 this morning because being in the heat, I woke up with a bad headache and feeling nauseous. They refused to give me a delivery date. They said that they didn't have access to the information. I told them that I knew that they had access to the information because all the other representatives gave me one. They escalated it. I spoke to someone, which was when I was told a different date, that they decided to let the contractor order the part on June 4th. I was just told a few days ago that the part was ordered on June 29th.
It's obvious that I'm being told different stories because they tell me they're documenting every time I call and the guy wouldn't answer me. Then he said that I had an appointment with the manager today, which I had no idea anyone was supposed to call today. I asked the time of the appointment and they said they don't give the time. When I work, I can't just stand by the phone and hope that they call again. I haven't received a call yet. A manager did call me but I was working and I saw 10 minutes after the call that she left a voicemail. She said that she tried to call me and they were unable to reach me but there was no callback number. No one tried to call me back last week. When I called this morning, I was told that someone had attempted to call me and that they don’t leave callback numbers.
AHS reps claim that they record these calls and take notes. I told the rep to put it in the notes that if I don't answer the phone, I want them to keep calling me back so I can at least catch the call because they don't leave callback numbers. He said he would. Every time they said they were gonna put something in the note, I would always hear typing and I told the rep I didn’t hear any. He said he was gonna do it when I hung up. I told him he was gonna do it at that time because I didn't trust their company. Then I heard the keys, but I don't know if he put it in there or not. But as of right now, I still haven't heard from anyone.

The first time I had American Home Shield, they did some electrical work for me and that was not a problem. I had no issue with the person who came out and they were able to get everything done. But anything to do with plumbing was always a problem. There was a whole lot of finger-pointing. The people that American Home Shield sent out said there were things that AHS wouldn't cover and they were very limited on what they could do as far as trying to fix the problem. And the AHS people would say the same thing.
We can get a different company because they're supposed to cover it, and it would just go back and forth until I would just have to get my own plumber that I knew personally to have him come out and get the job done. More likely, when that happened, AHS would refund me back the service call fee. I pay a 200 deductible on top of the monthly amount and just having the service for a year is gonna run me about a grand. So, there's no reason for me to continue with AHS. On top of that, I'm having to do it myself anyway. But AHS wasn’t completely horrible. It’s just the problem that I have with them.
I only talked to one American person the whole time that I was with AHS. I was always talking to somebody from a different country when I called and they always gave me a runaround. Nobody ever had a manager or a supervisor type permission to do anything. They would say they could do this much at this point and then tell me to call back in a couple of days. I was always having that problem and that was something I didn’t like. I could understand them and they tried to explain as best they could. But it’s just that nothing ever got done and it was a waste of time constantly going back and forth with them. Plus, the problem wouldn't get fixed. For a plumbing issue, I would have to go to a store to use the restroom. So, I wouldn't go with AHS and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone either.

They've also installed a new ceiling fan. They've been fantastic and they've treated us like gold. The techs are all really good as well. For my recent claim, it was an operator malfunction it turned out to be. That was for the HVAC. The drain was plugged. We checked everything but right there in that one little tiny thing. But the tech took care of it anyway. He got here early and he left in 10 minutes. He was that fast and that good. They've done a lot of work on that thing all these years. However, the cost keeps going up a little bit. But when you think about it, we've paid $60 for the deductible, for the fee 15 years ago. And now it's just over 100. The customer service rep that I had talked to originally about setting up the appointment was also good. They were able to communicate clearly and gave me not a cold feeling. I was confident that it would be taken care of appropriately. The only complaint I have with American Home Shield is why would I pay them 50 something dollars monthly service and still have to pay additional 200 something dollars for somebody to contract out? I've been with AHS for 25 years and I never had a bad experience with them. If they didn't cover something, it was fair, and they would repair the items that they covered. But I was really disappointed with my recent claim on my electric stove that caught on fire when I put it on self-cleaning for one hour. The techs they sent out said that the stove was dirty and that was why it broke. But that's why I have a self-cleaning oven.
AHS said that they won't cover the repair if I don't keep proper maintenance. I told them that I've always kept proper maintenance but their rep said that if it was dirty, then I didn't have proper maintenance. That was ridiculous and I told her that I wanted it re-evaluated. I also told her that I wanted to talk to a supervisor. She went round and round and they weren't going to do anything. I then told her that I would just cancel the warranty. She said they'd send somebody out for another opinion, but no matter which way it goes, that was it. I told her that I was not paying for another person and she said they would cover it. Other than that, I would still recommend them to anybody. I can't do all this stuff myself anymore. I'm 76. I pay them 700 a year and that's high for me.
For at least five years, they only had to do one claim on me for a disposal. I could have gone out and bought that disposal over and over with what I paid in premiums, but I had the protection. what I'm saying is I wasn't one of those people. People will take out that policy when they know they have problems, and they wait a couple of days and then start getting everything fixed, and they drop them. I've never done anything like that to anybody. And I think just my honesty, they should have done me right. But they see it as I was very wrong.

My air conditioning wasn't working. It would go on, but it wouldn't cool. I called AHS and opened up a request, then they had the Air Max call and schedule an appointment. It was very easy and Air Max was outstanding. Rusty was the technician that came out and he shared with me how to maintain the AC going forward so that I didn't have the same problem happen again.
But the only plumbing contractor that American Home Shield has in my area lied and submitted a false claim to them. This happened on and on, but they wouldn't do anything. They keep wanting to send him out to give a second opinion of himself. What happened was, he never showed up but he said he was here at 2:00 in the afternoon when I was in my office 70 miles away. So I pulled all my cameras and confirmed that he never showed up. But he had diagnosed a leaky copper pipe in the wall of my house. I submitted a claim to repair it and AHS approved it. But I kept pushing back because they want to send out the same guy. He also came out a year ago and said that it was a defective water heater, but my water heater was under warranty.
So I called American Home Shield and asked how could this man diagnose this water leak inside my wall when he never came in my house. And when they got ahold of that contractor, New Tech, they stated that he had virtually diagnosed it. But I work for a technology company and there is no way to virtually diagnose a leaky copper pipe inside somebody's wall. I told AHS time after time after time, and since they couldn't even get somebody else to come out and do a second opinion, they said they would just pay me what they would have paid the contractor to fix the leaky pipe in the wall.
But I told them that I didn't know what was causing the leak or where it was even coming from. So, they said they could pay me and I could hire somebody myself. But this is something that is covered by my American Home Shield. So, if you want them to cover your plumbing in Grayson County, they don't have anybody but this one fraudulent company. Check your options.

The website forms are also excellent. It's easy to navigate and very intuitive. The repairman who came recently was very professional and went straight to work. The AC was leaking water. Apparently, one of the exits for the excess water was dirty and clogged up. He cleaned that up.
Thank you so much for the great review! If there are any other services you need, please visit our website ahs.com.

Water was leaking all over the garage. I called American Home Shield and there was no problem at all. They sent Affordable Heating and Air. The tech was very nice. He showed up a little bit before time, and there was no problem with the time that he said he was coming. He has very good customer service. There was only one thing that I would have wanted him to do that he didn't do, and I don't know if he even thought about it. I didn't tell him about it, because at the time, I wasn't really thinking about it. I was just gonna let him do his thing as the expert.
He figured out what the problem was really fast. The hose was bent so the water was coming into the house instead of going down the pipe and outside. So, what he did to fix it was he pulled it out more from inside the wall so that it could come out. The only thing is I would have told him this if I had thought about it. When we went back around and looked at it, it didn't fix the problem. The water still is coming out, but that hose that comes out from some of the external source was bent. So, I got my son to take the pliers and squeeze it to unbend it to make it more open. That was the only thing that I wish that the guy would have done. Other than that, he did a good job. He was very accommodating and nice about cleaning it out with the chlorine and all that repository thing that it goes in.
Overall, I've never had any problems with AHS. I've used them on and off for 20 years. They've always done what they're supposed to do. It'll be great if they can expand the coverages for more things. I got something in the mail saying that if I pay $3 and something in a month, I can have coverage related to the outside main line. I had an outside main line water break and that wasn't covered because they don't do that coverage at all. It will be great if they will expand into that for some people for a certain amount of coverage.

Absolutely a terrible company! It's been almost a month my dryer stopped working and the tech visited twice and said the control card is no longer available and can't fix it. I tried reaching AHS many time but in vain. Every time they give excuse that they didn't get any report from Sears Services. No resolution yet. It's very frustrating!

My dryer bearings need to be changed. I was told it will work fine but have to listen to the noise. No, I will not so you took the service fee $100 plus the monthly $69 but no services. I’m don’t, I will pay for my own repairs because now you all are a fraud business with contractors that don’t wanna work, BYE!

AHS put me in an Evergreen client status. I was on the auto-renewal program and I told them I never agreed to that. Each year, when it's time to renew, I receive an email 60 days before that then I call them to decide whether to renew because they send me the coupon stuff. This time, I didn't get any notice and I had no plan to renew until May 20th when I got my credit card alert telling me they were charging me the monthly installment. So I got on my account, then I called American Home Shield. I talked to three people and all of them told me there would be no fees and the renewal would be canceled. But in the beginning, they told me that was monthly installment because I renewed, then it changed to administrative fees because I canceled, and back to the installment fee, then back and forth.
Also, the first person transferred me to the escalation team and that guy told me that me there was no refund because that was supposed to be the first day of my new contract. But I told him I did not renew it and I did not use the service. He told me that was just how they charge. I went back to see my contract and it said that if canceled within the first 30 days, if there's no service, they will provide full refund. And if I cancel after that and if I use their service, there will fees. So I shouldn't pay. I then asked if I could talk to the manager and they refused to transfer me again. They told me that was their final decision. Last year, I was on the most expensive policy and when they renewed my policy, my premium increased too. I don't want that policy and if I did, I would consider a lower policy. But I don't want to renew anymore because it's so hard to work with them. It's a little frustrating and the fees they charge are so much.
The last time I talked to AHS, I was on the phone with them for 40 minutes just to have somebody to talk to me about the refund. I talked to a couple of people who were kind, but they were in a different department. I could understand them and they could understand me. The local and more American part of the division talking to me were way easier to talk to. One time I asked them to send somebody to patch the ceiling for the drywall. The techs had to cut a hole on my drywall on the ceiling to access the pipe and it was super hard to communicate with the AHS reps. The people at their cashing office are really easy to work with There's one lady, Judy, I called who helped me about patching the ceilings. So AHS can do better.
When I had a claim for the air conditioner, the techs replaces the coil but I had to pay lots of extra on the upfront. Then, they told me that my unit was old and that it could go out in 30 days. So, I ended up paying a lot more to replace the unit. But the claims process with AHS is easy. I would do online, then the contractor would contact me directly. But if it was a small fix, they normally sent somebody least experienced. When my thermostat went off, they sent somebody who was really nice. But when I put the heat on, the cool air would come in. So, I had to call back again. Apparently the person fixed it but didn't wire it correctly. The tech had to come back to fix it.
At another time, the roofer came here as I had three things needed to be patched. At first, they were telling me to replace whole roof. I knew the roof is old and that eventually it needs to be replaced. But I wanted the leaks itself to be fixed. They told me that the work would cost $3,000-something. But without a plan, I could find somebody cheaper to do that. If I spend over $3,000 to patch the roof, then a few months later I might have to replace the whole thing and spend another $12,000. So it is not worth it.
The idea of the home warranty is very good and it's great for little stuff. But not the bigger ones. When the techs come out for those, the first thing they tell you is to replace the whole thing and they're so quick to tell me that. One time, I had a water heater broke down and AHS sent a contractor in. The water heater would cost about $2,500 to replace but I found somebody to do that for $1,500. In the end, I just did a cashout and they gave me $400 for the water heater. I told them I couldn't even buy a water heater with that price but I still decided to do that because it was cheaper than using their contractor. The same thing happened to the HVAC system. In the end, I just replaced the whole thing.
The AHS website to access my account is fine but I couldn't see the details of my claims. If they have the contractor do assessment, they don't have the contractor's invoice to them and they only have a line saying what the contractor found. But I don't know what exactly they will do. So that part is not upfront, and that should be disclosed to the customer. Also, there's a history of repair, but it's just basic information. It's fine if there's nothing going on. But if I really need the information, I call the customer service and they don't give me information either. They keep telling me they don't have access.
I'm so sorry for the problems you've been experiencing. Please reach out to us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can discuss this further. Sincerely, Mariah

So disappointed with AHS customer service. I have been a platinum member for 3 years, my ac broke 6/2/2024, which we called and opened a work order. I informed the person on the phone who is located in the Philippines that I have someone with health concerns in the house. They informed me that the order could take up 24 hrs to be assigned. I informed them that I reside in Florida and it's 100 degrees. I called back to see if there was anyway to expedite the service call and again the call is placed outside of the United States and to the Philippines. This time the individual stated that she would send an email to help expedite to the AC company. I also was able to call the AC company and left message.
On June 3rd, the tech for Air America showed to my home at 2 pm eastern time. He stated that he could not fix the ac as the ac needed a new motor. He explained that he needed to put in a work order and submit to American Home Shield Warranty to get approval. I asked how long will this take. I called Joelle at American Home Shield Warranty to discuss what transpired with the tech from Air America. Joelle told me that “it's a process and it can take up to 24 hrs to 2 weeks for approval to happen”. I informed her that I have a person in my home that has health issues and can not be in the heat and requested how the process can be expedited. She stated for me to call back in a couple hours.
I called the owner of Air America who stated he submitted the diagnoses and is waiting for approval. I called Karen who is located in the Philippines at 9:00 pm eastern time who informed this writer that nothing was received from Air America, the AC contractor with AHS. I requested to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to Ellie who stated that Air America has not turn in any paperwork or called for approval and that it could take up to two weeks for them to get approval for the work to get done as this is the process of the company. I informed her that I have a person that resides in the home that has health concerns and I have had to put them in a hotel due to not having a working ac. Ellie stated that we do not need to have a working AC. She proceeded to argue with me and agitate the situation instead of diffuse an already stressful situation.
I WANT MY AC WORKING. I WANT APPROVAL, it’s been 48 hours without the ac working. This is unacceptable. Tomorrow, 6/4 will be 36 hrs without ac. I have been paying my premiums on time and AHS has access to my bank account and is able to pull funds out, like for today and no service was fully completed. There needs to be an easier way for this process to be completed, such as with the technology of today the technician should be able to get approval on the spot at my home to complete the job. There should not be this 24 hour to 2 week approval period for something like this. Also why is American Home Shield outsourced outside of the USA???? Bring it back to the USA.

For three years, I've paid and called every year, only to be told that nothing would be covered. Yesterday, I spent $886 on plumbing issues: air in the pipes, flushing a water heater that smelled like rotten eggs, and fixing a consistently leaking kitchen faucet—all things you'd expect to be covered. This is a scam. Save yourself the $100 monthly fee and the $125 they charge to send someone out. Put that money into a savings account instead of wasting it on this horrible service. At least you'll earn some interest.

MS Plumbing was bad. I've always asked American Home Shield for a different plumbing service and they never gave me that option. They've always said, "Well, this is the only one." The guy has come out and my tenants that live there would be like, "He's not doing what he's supposed to do." AHS has notes of me complaining and asking, "Can you please send a different company out there?" They finally did, but that was because the guy never fixed the problem. AHS sent another company out there and they were like, "Well, if they find the same issue, you have to pay the fee." But the guy came out there and he was like, "I don't see that issue that he was talking about." So, I didn't end up paying anything.
Overall, AHS doesn't listen. I have to go with them because they're the only home warranty service that supports that house in that area. Also, their customer service was very dry. At the beginning, they could never get my name associated with my house. It would be somebody else's name. I complained about that for a whole year. And eventually, one day, I talked to somebody and they fixed the problem.

One time, American Home Shield was number one but I've had problems with them where they don't wanna replace things. I've had a little problem with them as far as air condition, but they ended up fixing it. But I know some of my friends who I introduced to AHS, and they had to replace an air condition, but AHS didn't wanna pay for the whole thing. Also, AHS went up on their price so much to where they almost price people out. I pay at least $100 for the deductible when the people come out. Also, some contractors may feel that AHS doesn't want to replace certain things. They just want to continue to keep fixing, even though the equipment needed to be replaced. But those are the only gripes I have.

There are some things American Home Shield is good at. But the people who work at the call center don't understand or maybe they don't want to listen to what I say, and they just do their own stuff. So, the communication is a little harder. With my refrigerator, I kept telling them, "You need to send this particular company who was there last time when they repaired." But they kept sending another company who couldn't do all the stuff. They just pushed that one company. I don't know why. It would be nice if they sent the appropriate person so I would not have to go to many trips and they would not have to pay everybody.
I would talk about the washer or the refrigerator, they would send the same company. Maybe they're cheap or they're AHS' favorite. And the guy kept coming and changing parts for no reason just to find he wasn't diagnosing it, but just tried to change this part and that part and see if it worked. They're going to bring another part to change it. So hopefully, it would work. But this company was a little better than the other company. I guess AHS has a shortage of vendors. Also, we complained to AHS about our deductible. We just paid it and they promised that they would refund our deductible, but they never did. Other than that, they are a lot better than other companies.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

American Home Shield sent Universal 1 but they never fixed the stove. They kept coming out and they were telling AHS that they fixed it, but they didn't. The oven wasn't working. I told the tech, "I think it's the board." He kept saying, "It's igniter. It's igniter." He changed the igniter. Then the igniter went out again. Then it stopped working. I called him back and told him, "It's not the igniter. I'm trying to tell you, I think it's the board." So he said he was gonna order the board, but they never ordered it. Then they ordered this other part, and they never came and put it on. So when the part came, it just sat there for almost a year,.
I called AHS back. They sent somebody else out. I was gonna cancel my service with AHS and go with somebody else. They raised my monthly plan. So, I said I was going to cancel it. The lady I was talking to said, "Don't do that. I'm gonna put it back where it was at. And then I'm gonna send somebody else out. And you don't have to pay the $100." So they came out. He put another igniter on and he put that part on that the last company sent. Then I said, "It's the board." So he said, "All right." He went back and he was gonna order the board. He called me back and said AHS said they're not paying for the board because it's not covered. I'm just gonna go ahead and buy me a stove. I would recommend American Home Shield, but I would tell people to be careful. They fix certain things. Make sure to read the fine print before you even sign something to make sure they cover everything.

I had issues with my dishwasher, my dryer, and my washing machine. My dryer wouldn't even turn on. My washing machine wasn't washing, getting stuff really clean at all. It was barely spinning, and it was making an awful grinding noise. And on my dishwasher, the baskets were rusting and breaking off and it wasn't holding anything in place. Stuff was flying all over the place and not getting washed. I submitted the claim online through American Home Shield's website. It was fairly easy. They usually send out all the information through text or email. So, I knew exactly who was coming out and had their contact information.
Everything was great with the contractor. They did a good job. They fixed the dryer, which was my biggest concern. Then they had replaced the washing machine and dishwasher. AHS will give you either the equivalent of which is the replacement piece, which those pieces are really old. So, it was probably a lower-end unit that we went ahead and took the cash value and Lowe’s gift cards so we could match our other units that we have. We had a certain fridge, and we wanted the dishwasher essentially to match that version. So, I took the gift cards for that and just upgraded from the one that they were gonna give me and install into the one we wanted.

It is very difficult to reach out to American Home Shield because 99% of the time I reach out to somebody overseas, which is a big problem for me. Our American jobs should be here in the country rather than sourced out. That is a big downfall for me. AHS sent a contractor for the initial yearly cleanup. Something was wrong with my AC. They fixed it. The AC has been failing right after we got our initial maintenance on it. The recent contractor came out for my yearly tune-up for my AC. It went okay. They didn't clean my coils, which I thought was something they were supposed to do. And they told us, "Your coils have dust on them." I didn't say anything but I thought that was something that was supposed to be done. Other than that, they were thorough. The guy was polite.
We had a faucet issue that came up. But when we filed a claim, it was $125 for it. And we bought the faucet ourselves for a lot cheaper. And it was like, what's the point? Having somebody come out, look at it, and replace it for $125 when we could replace it ourselves for less than that. So we're starting to weigh the pros and cons.

We panicked. But American Home Shield told us who would come out. I've used AHS' website, but I would follow up with a call because it took too long for anybody to get back to me. We called May Heating and Air directly and they came out. They've been out three times in the past year. We had a water leak, they came out, but we forgot to mention there was an oil smell. They told us that they did some test and there was a gas leak in the line. So, they addressed it. The turnaround time was within a couple of days.
However, everybody that I talked to at AHS doesn't know what they were saying. We had an issue with a toilet that was leaking. We've called them for air. We also called them for something that was going on with the dishwasher. But we have liked their platinum plan and somebody would tell me, "That's not covered." And I know at least once somebody was sent out here and they were told that we would have to pay them and it turns out we weren't because it was covered under the policy.
Customer service is customer service, but it's not always an immediate response and everybody doesn't know the different policies very well. And I didn't like having to pull out a copy of it and tell them why they were wrong and that they wasted a day or two. The customer service and one side knowing what the other side is doing, it could be improved.

Some of our experiences with American Home Shield have been good and some of them have been bad. It depends on which contractor they use. I've had some good ones and some not-so-good ones. So, it's been mixed. The most recent claim experience wasn't so great. The contractor took some time to come out. They didn't offer to fix the problem, but they offered some deal to a replacement where I would have to buy something, put up some money, and get a new heater, which I didn't really want to do. So, I wasn't too happy. I thought they would just fix it. Instead, they wanted to replace it, but not for free. It was more than I wanted to pay. I just didn't do anything further.
I had other claims where something wasn't working like my water pump from the well and they sent some group that replaced it entirely and I didn't have to pay anything. They did my refrigerator, which I thought worked out okay. They just told me to contact this contractor and I got a new refrigerator delivered. They have different contractors, some of which seem like fly-by-night. They're just mom-and-pop operations and they don't always answer the phone. American Home Shield doesn't do the work. They just arrange for somebody to do it. They should try to get the best people they could in my area who are capable and well-staffed and answers the phone and come out quickly.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

We have been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and for the most part are very satisfied. Our cost per month went from 130 last year to 206 which was shocking! We just advised our son to sign up for the Shieldplatinum plan as well and his cost is about $60 a month. We found out this week that our package hvac unit needs to be replaced and our out of pocket cost is over 4000. I called American Home Shield and rep went through the breakdown of this cost but could not tell me how much American home shield is covering. American Home Shield says on their site that “you could pay thousands for a single repair or replacement -or a fraction of the cost for an entire year of coverage with American Home Shield“ but I am having to pay thousands of dollars for a new HVAC system with a AHS warranty.

I initially got the coverage when I first bought the house a couple of years ago. We only had one main issue the first year and after having that issue, it showed that the coverage was worth it. The refrigerator was having a major mechanical problem. It froze up and the ice machine went out. The company ordered the wrong ice machine and we went back and forth with it. But it wasn't their fault because it was an older refrigerator. By the time I got that diagnosis, they figured that the other issue it was having, it needed another refrigerator. So, American Home Shield reimbursed us to get another refrigerator. What we paid for the warranty paid off. Overall, the service was good so, we just kept the policy.
The repair guy for the dryer was great, very well put together and professional. I described the issue to him and he went into the garage and looked at it for about two minutes. He said he already knew what it was and just happened to have the part on the truck because some of them are universal. He diagnosed the issue immediately and fixed it, and it has been working fine ever since. The protection covers all the appliances. I could go online and submit a claim and it's a very smooth process. The reps always initially give you upfront the contact info of the contractor. The first contractor was a little bit busy, so they didn't get to us right at the 24-hour mark. But the next day, I called them. You can easily get ahold of the contractor. So, everything is very straightforward and easy to initiate. AHS is worth the coverage and the peace of mind. All the contractors who came out were good and very honest.

Submitting a claim is easy with AHS. I go online, fill out their form, then respond within 24 hours once I do my claim. But I don't like their communication. They don't have good back and forth with follow-up. A lot of times, their words that they're telling me on the phone does not equal what I'm seeing online. I would keep going online and sometimes it'd say my claim was resolved. So, I'd have to call them and tell them that it wasn't resolved or the parts were ordered. Then I'd have to call the company that has got the service to follow up on that.
I had one issue where I ordered a hood for my stove and AHS kept saying it had been delivered. But I didn't have it in. My husband's retired and he was right there when they said they attempted the delivery. But they charged me again to have that delivery come back out. Plus, I got charged $135 for the techs to put it back on the shelf. Then that took six months.
I would also tell others that going in to AHS, they should make sure that everything is covered per their contract. When our air conditioner went out last summer, even though it was part of our plan, they refused to fix it because they said the unit was too big. But that was already here when I got the warranty. The techs were going to put in a smaller unit but AHS wouldn't cover any of it. So we were without an air conditioner for quite a long time and we had to find our own service that we could afford to get it replaced.

Because for repairs that are urgent, they usually call after two or three weeks, which is unacceptable.

He immediately said “you don’t have a Clean Out”, "I don’t even know what you are talking about." It is a separate pipe under sink so lazy plumbers do not have to remove the P-Trap pipe to snake the clog. He said doubts American Home Shield will approve to fix the clog, and my claim was denied. Advance Home Services closed my request, sent an email to American Home Shield (warranty) stating the customer need to install a Clean Out (AHS does not approve) and Advance Home will charge to install it.
Contacted American Home Shield, but all you get is thick accent speaking that do not understand what you are saying. They prevent from giving you a REAL supervisor if they even exist. However, if the service contractor has a bias opinion, then why would AHS proceed with their decision to deny coverage, when AHS clearly states that item is covered in their contract.
American Home Shield does not want to pay for labor on a job if they can avoid. They accept the technician’s LIES (ignoring their own contract) and passing the job onto the Service Contractor (Advance Home Services) at the additional expense of the customer. I pay $1,068 a year to avoid high costs for household services, but the warranty company ¬(American Home Shield) tries everything they can to avoid fixing the problem by breaching their own contract.
I understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback. Please feel free to contact us at consumeraffairs@ahs.com so we can talk more about your experience.
Sincerely,Stacy
