The contractor came and fixed the bonding on our pool. It happened quickly and it was very smooth. But I don't know if I would go back to American Home Shield because they upped my price without permission and renewed my policy. I caught it the day after, and I had stopped my account. I had it set for that specific amount to come from AHS, so it rejected the payment. My dad had AHS, they doubled his payment, took the money out. They're on a fixed income so it hurt them. Luckily, it didn't do that to me. They should communicate with their customers that they are upping their annual renewals. I don't know if an email had come out and maybe I just missed it, but I don't remember receiving anything. AHS upped their renewals by almost $70. It was quite a bit.

There were times that I was satisfied with the service, but I felt frustrated a lot with it. There were also times we've had people who came and tried to fix our dryer. We would spend almost $340 for them to come out, $109 each time, because it would break 30 days after, but that first payment didn't count so I would have to make another one. I ended up throwing the dryer away, so I didn't even get my dryer replaced. The plan that I got was supposed to be the best plan to cover electronics in the house. So I figured it would be a good plan, but I didn't feel like it was done correctly on all things.

Most of the time, the service people that came out were nice. I didn't have a problem with the service once they got out here. But there were a couple of times -- especially with the dryer when the dryer broke -- that we waited and waited. And I would have to call AHS and say, “Nobody's coming. What's going on? We don't have an appointment.” So we were going to the laundromat, trying to do our clothes. I would not go back with them.

The first guy we had in here for the air conditioning unit was terrible. I would never hire them again or recommend them. They were here twice but didn't solve the problem. The first time they were here, they didn't even check with the gauges for the pressures. The second time they came, they added some freon to the system, and it was only a matter of a couple days. I can't believe that the system would have leaked that much in two days. The second guy American Home Shield sent went upstairs, went through the scuttle, got into the attic and found that the coil unit was frozen up. Once we unfroze it, the system worked fine and it's been working fine ever since.

I had AHS for at least 8 years and they are the worst. I kept using them because I thought I couldn't afford another warranty company. This company is the absolute worst. Their repair companies blame other companies or they take at least 4 trips to finally fix a refrigerator, toilets, air conditioner or my dryer. It is absolutely frustrating. My icing on the cake is when I canceled the plan they kept charging me for several months and would not credit back my credit card after calling them 8 times. DON'T USE THEM!

I had a ceiling fan that was not working properly. When I called in for the service call, I told American Home Shield exactly what was going on with it. So, they took the $75 and then they sent a service guy out here. He could not fix it because he said they didn't do that kind of work. So, I called back and I told the lady exactly what the ceiling fan was doing because it was like the blades were off and it was kind of growling a little bit. She said, “Well, the person that came out said that they didn't do electrical work. They would only fix the fan.” I said, "Well, I couldn't tell exactly what was wrong with it. I just know that it was wobbling a little bit and stuff like that.” I described everything that was going on with the fan.

What the guy said was, "Well, we don't do electrical work, so I can't fix it. It looked like it was coming down from the ceiling. That would require some electrical work. So, we don't do that." I told Home Shield, "You guys need to refund my $75 because I did not get the service that was required." They never gave me my $75 back. I wrote them letters. I wrote them emails. I did everything. Each time that I talked to somebody, they said that they were gonna turn it over to somebody and have them review it, but I've never heard one thing from Home Shield.

Overall, my experience has been okay. It's just that one thing that I was very unhappy with. They should have refunded my $75 because they didn't do anything. I had to end up calling a handyman out to fix my fan. So, I paid double for that. It was very disappointing when they said they were gonna turn it in to somebody else that can make a decision and I never heard from them. I've gotten calls before where they said, "Have you had any issues with Home Shield?" I tell them the same thing, “Still, yet, I've never heard anything from Home Shield.”

Submitting claims to Home Shield is okay. It all depends on what time of day you call. You might have to wait a long time but that's expected because everybody's busy. Sometimes, I got a callback because I waited so long. You can leave your number and they call you back. You get in line for the callback, but that's okay. They've got some really good contractors that have done a really good job. So, I'm satisfied with that. When the people come out and they can fix the product, they usually fix it. So, I don't have any complaint about the service people.

The repairs have been good. Home Shield is gonna repair it if it can be repaired because they don't want to replace it. Except for my washing machine one time, they had to replace that because the guy kept coming out. I kept calling them because I have 30 days. It wasn't working in 30 days. He had to keep coming back out. He finally said, "I cannot fix this washing machine. So, I'm gonna turn it in and tell them that they need to replace it."

The impression that I had been given was that having the policy would protect me in case something went wrong with the air conditioning unit. But the reality is American Home Shield claimed that I had somehow abused the system even though I've never physically touched it so ultimately they did not pay and did not cover the repairs that were needed.

The contractor looked at the system and saw that there was a double filter on it. Apparently, according to American Home Shield, having the double filter voided them of any responsibility, but that was the way the system was when we bought the house. We had had maintenance done by them and a repair done previously by them. Even with this supposed double filter thing that they covered and paid for, they never said to us anything about us have this setup and that if we'll have a problem, they're not gonna pay. The whole thing came as a shock. If I had had more time and energy to fight them on it, I would have fought them further on it. It was a total sham that they didn't pay for the repair.

I've heard negative things about several home warranty companies, but this was really upsetting particularly because they had boasted about having a certain dollar amount allowance specifically for air conditioning repair. That was the reason I went and reupped for the second year. To find this little caveat that they were claiming felt very shady. We were left for three weeks without air conditioning, living in the desert. Then we ended up having to pay out-of-pocket for it to be repaired.

Also, American Home Shield's price is jacked way up and it used to be that they were located in Memphis but they moved it overseas and started going downhill. I can hardly understand them and they can't understand me. Instead of calling me Cheryl, they go Sherill. Finally, I gave up and told them not to call me by my first name because they can't pronounce it. Additionally, it takes forever to get someone on the phone. It's very frustrating any time you have to call so most of the time, I make a request online. That way, I don't have to talk with them.

I've had a couple of claims with AHS and they have been wonderful. The techs came out when they wanted to and when they said they were going to come out. Then, AHS paid the claims and I had problem with them at all. Recently, my old poll heater that was 20 some years old finally went out. I submitted a claim over the phone and it was very easy. Then, the techs came out and said it needed to be replaced. They were doing the job and looking at the right thing. And they were making the right call. AHS gave me a couple of remedies and there was a pool company they recommended, but I didn't use them because they were too expensive. So, I used my own pool company and I took the cash settlement. AHS would allot $3,000 per occurrence and they paid me $3,000 for this one. Since the replacement, everything has been great.

My air conditioner unit went out, and I wasn't happy with the people American Home Shield sent out here, Myers. They suggested that we get a new unit and American Home Shield covered a lot of it, but we still had to come out of pocket quite a lot of money. I thought the policy paid for the new unit, and it didn't. My husband said installation took forever too. It was really hot, and it took five weeks or more. There was a middleman, and when we ordered one unit, they didn't have that. So, we had to go back and they had to resubmit more paperwork that we had to pick out another unit with, then they had to find out if that unit was available. It was a mess. All in all, American Home Shield is good, but we're not satisfied with the people they hire.

For my recent AHS claim, our AC wasn't kicking out enough air. When the techs came out and did the job, everything was fine. The techs were good too. They came out on time like they said they would. I thought it was the air conditioner again and they found out it wasn't the air conditioning, it was my heating system. I wound up getting a brand-new heating system. All I had to do was pay my co-pay which was only $100. AHS really did a good job. Whenever I call AHS, they're on time. The techs come right out. When I'm putting my order, within 24 hours, I'm getting a call. I also put in an order two weeks ago for my sink. My pipe kept slipping when I cut my disposal on. The techs came right out and were gone within a half hour. They did well.

I will never tell anybody to go with American Home Shield. The contractor was fine. But AHS was terrible. I could not speak to anybody except the low-grade operator that I talked to. This is the fourth visit on the same problem with the refrigerator. I've had to pay out of pocket $400 because every time I have to call AHS, it would be $100 if I wait over 30 days.

With my other home, at least AHS would talk to me and they could get me to a second level. AHS' operator said, "You have a deal where we're gonna expedite your service." I've never been called back on any information. Last time, she said, "We'll expedite this to get it out quicker." I said, "No, ma'am. Don't do that because whoever you send that to, they don't answer either because nobody has communicated with me." They said, "We're sorry. We're trying the best we can." I said, "This is ridiculous. It takes two months to get something fixed." They said, "We understand." No they don't. Because if they do, it wouldn't have taken two months.

On the first claim I put in for the washing machine, the guy said he couldn’t do it until the 15th and I told him I couldn’t wait for 15 days. He couldn’t do it within the 10 days that American Home Shield asked them to do it. I needed to call AHS back and talk to them to see if they could send somebody else out. The other gentleman came before 10 days but we had to order the part and I had to wait a week before the part came in. So it still took about 10 days. But the gentleman did what he needed to do. He was very nice and touched base with me. He let me know that they had to order a part and once it came in, he called me and came out on that afternoon, which was this past Monday. It took about an hour and a half because where the hose was located was hard to get to. But he tested it and everything worked. I've been using my washing machine since Monday and it's been working fine.

People should get the warranty from AHS but they should be aware that the fees go up yearly. AHS didn't let me know that my annual year was up. Then everything increased. I know everything is increasing because of the economy. But it's cheap and easy because I don't have extra money to buy a new washing machine at the drop of a dime.

If I could give a negative number of stars I would. This company collected premiums for months from me. When I developed an air conditioning problem I forgot I had the policy and called a local repair person in. He looked at it and said the unit is 20 years old and leaking refrigerant. You could add refrigerant but it will leak out again and that the unit should be replaced. I remembered I had the policy and called American Home Shield. They charged me over $100 to arrange to have a tech come out to evaluate my system - like I need help doing that. When the guy came out they only wanted to add refrigerant which I had to pay for that cost another $200. So what exactly am I paying premiums for? The unit needs to be replaced. They just kicked the can down the road and opted not to do anything. All costs I paid. I called and cancelled the policy since it was clearly useless. Now I am getting email saying they're going to turn me over to collections for a policy I cancelled. Negative 5 stars. Usless company. Fake insurance. You pay premiums for absolutely nothing. In the end they don't actually do anything.

My water heater went out and I called American Home Shield because I’ve been with them for two years. Home Service Corp. came out but it took them a minute to fix it. They ordered a part. So, I had to wait back in line. It took about a week for them to come back out and then, I had to reorder the part, so I had to wait another week. I didn’t like that about them. Once they get the part in, the technician should come in and fix the part, not put you back in line when the next service individual is open. It was a long wait. But other than that, they finally resolved the issue and the technician was great. I also didn’t like that I couldn’t contact AHS with a complaint if I had one. They give you a number that goes directly to a service center. I can't contact them with this information so that’s not good because I pay them, not the service individuals. Or AHS pays them because it costs $100 for them to come out.

They provide the name of the contractor or when I'm going to expect to be called by them.

But I have a lot of bad experience with American Home Shield per se, not the agents. Most of the time, they would tell me that my claim is not covered and it's like I'm paying them but they're not covering anything. So my experience with them is not perfect and I would not 100% recommend them because of that. It's not all the time that they cover what I expect to be covered as a wear and tear issue. For example, my washer is old and a lot of things would start to break down in it. But AHS would say that I intentionally break things. Why would I do that? It’s beyond my control because the unit is old.

Other than that, I've had some good things with them, mostly for the pool pump. It’s because when it was broken, I bought a new one, so every time there's something wrong, they would fix it because it's new. But for the rest of my appliances, because they're really old, if something went wrong, they always say it's not covered. The only reason why I stay with them is because they have the coverage for the pool and I haven't found any other home warranty that I could shift to. Also, when I would try to call and talk to a supervisor, I have never talked to anyone.

My Realtor recommended AHS and I decided to renew after the year because I felt that it was something that I could use. It was beneficial as a homeowner to me. The idea of having the service providers available is a benefit. Sometimes, I may have to wait a week but if I had an emergency, they could accelerate. Most recently, I had a leak and clogging in the bathroom. I filed a claim online and the contractor, T Mayes Plumbing & Heating, was pretty responsive. They had to come back though because there was another leak. It was within 30 days of them coming out and I called them out again. The gentleman who came looked at everything and explained to me what could be the cause of the leak. They were accommodating and the issue was resolved.

Here’s what to expect… Extremely Disappointing Experience with American Home Shield – No Resolution for Over a Month**. I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield (AHS) for over a month regarding a simple dishwasher repair, and it’s been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had with a home warranty provider. Despite multiple technician visits (three, to be exact), the issue with my dishwasher remains unresolved, and communication from AHS has been abysmal.

The most concerning part is the lack of accountability and respect for my time. I’ve had to take days off work, only to have the technicians either fail to repair the appliance or fail to show up entirely. Promises that parts were ordered were never fulfilled – I was even told parts had been delivered when they hadn’t, and the control board, a critical part, never arrived. To make matters worse, during one visit, the dishwasher emitted an electrical smoke smell after the technician worked on it, raising serious safety concerns that AHS has yet to address.

One of my contracts was canceled without my consent, even though I specifically stated that I wanted both contracts canceled if they couldn’t resolve the issue. Despite countless calls, emails, and promises of supervisor callbacks, I’ve been left waiting for over a month with no real solution. Each time I call, I’m met with more delays, empty promises, and zero accountability. While AHS did offer me one month of free service as a “compensation,” it’s laughable compared to the time, money, and energy I’ve wasted. I’ve had to spend hours on the phone, repeating the same information, and still, I have no resolution.

If you're considering American Home Shield for your home warranty needs, **be warned**: the service has been unreliable, and their customer service is unresponsive. The amount of frustration and lost time far outweighs the value of the warranty itself. I could have replaced the dishwasher on my own for less than the cost of my contract, and I would have had it installed the next day instead of waiting indefinitely for repairs that never seem to happen. Save yourself the headache – look elsewhere for a home warranty provider. My experience with AHS has been nothing short of a nightmare.

It took about an hour and a half and it was good to go. The AC is functioning very well now. We've had AHS for at least 10 years. We had it in California at the old house and we picked it up here in Arizona. I like that they're prompt and usually take care of the issues. The AC had just gone out and we were closing the next week. So, we needed to get it done. The first tech said that the compressor needed to be replaced. We wanted to get a second opinion because they said it was preexisting and we needed a second opinion to say it wasn't. It just happened. The seller had to have an estate sale, a garage sale inside without any air conditioning. She wouldn't have planned that if the air conditioning was out. So, we had to wait a long time. Their other house in Idaho was gone and they'd already sold it and all their stuff. So, they moved here and stayed in a hotel one night.

We kept thinking they were gonna come back with a second opinion. And they didn't. American Home Shield was dealing with this and finally, the tech came out and said all it needed was something very minor. If you did that, then it needed a clean-up kit. The tech said there was nothing wrong with the compressor. And we waited all that time with these people. It was so hot. They finally went out of town to some family's place to stay. They were beyond furious. The first person who came out told us the wrong thing, which was why it happened.

I have been with American Home Shield for probably 16 years and I refer it to my clients. There are problems with all home warranties and things happen. Not like this should have happened. But my area representative is very helpful. We tell all of our clients to call us if there's a problem. Then we get with her and she helps us work it out. But sometimes, they don't always call us like we ask them to. And we also say, if they don't like the technician, tell them they want somebody different and send him away. But these people didn't know the difference, whether what he was telling them was right or not. And other home warranty companies that had started, promising all kinds of stuff, are out of business. American Home Shield is still in business. I don't wanna refer my client to somebody who's gonna be out of business, no matter what they're promising. So, it always ends up, in the end, all right. But this time, I couldn't say that.

It's very easy and they always tell me the name of the vendor that's gonna come out and work on my thing so I can call them to set my appointment earlier if I need to. My last claim was for my washer, which they replaced three years ago. It went out. It locked and I couldn't get it open. We had to wait a week for the part and I had some pretty stinky towels in there. But the technician had been out here before and he was really good.

We've only had one bad tech in all these years. His truck was nasty-looking and then he wanted me to pay him our deductible when he got there. We didn't use him after that. Also, we had to replace our furnace and the tech came out and told us that we would have to go up to a different one. American Home Shield turned us down. I called and the rep said they replaced the rating on it and that they replace those every day. I told her the guy told me he didn't think an inspector would wanna climb behind the wall. She sent somebody else out, and we ended up getting a new furnace. They gave us $1,000 towards the new furnace because the other one was old. But that's okay. Other than that, it's still an excellent service. If I have a problem with a contractor and I just call them and talk to them, they'd send another contractor out.

Mid-South Contractors came out the initial day and told me what needed to be done. But it took forever for them to come back and do whatever they wanted do. They would call and say, "We'll be there in 30 minutes," or "We'll be there this afternoon," but they never showed up. This went on for days. I couldn't reach them on the phone to see when they were coming. I always got a recording and was leaving a message for them asking them when were they coming to fix my commode. We had one instance when the repairman said, "I had to take my wife to the emergency room and we'll be there shortly to do the work as soon as I get her out of the emergency room."

When they came back, the commode that they brought was not a quality commode at all. It looked like it was something that was bought at Walmart, but I didn't say anything because we had to have the bathroom fixed. They ended up fixing it until 11 o'clock at night. They said they didn't bring a line to place on the commode and went to several places trying to find it. They also left a baby out there in the truck running all that time. The new commode functions but it flushes slow. The seat I had in there was an oval, but this is not a contoured oval, it's just a little round seat.

If I use American Home Shield again and they send Mid-South Contractors, I'd tell them we don't want them. I've had American Home Shield at my house in Gadsden and didn't have any problem with it. Since I live here now, I wanted to make sure we had American Home Shield as well. I've used them several different times and they stand behind their word. I have told several people about them and several of them have gotten it since.

I check every year about how much I spend on my regular monthly payment as well as my deductible and I almost always at least break even. With the exception of sometimes having to wait a little longer than if I were to call someone myself, I've generally had a good experience with them.

Recently, the refrigerator in my garage was not working correctly. But I have trouble every time I log in to their dashboard to see all of my activity because, for some reason, I've got two accounts in there. Every time I log in, I have to add my other information to do it as well. It's a pain and I can't get American Home Shield to fix it.

I had a toilet that was broken around the rim from the floor. American Home Shield sent a local company out to fix it within 48 hours. They came out and fixed it but unfortunately, the repair did not last. It did not fix the issue. So within 24 hours, Home Shield sent the same company back out to do a secondary repair, and they resolved the issue in a timely manner.

As far as submitting a claim, there is not a very good option to do it over the phone. Every time I've had to call and talk to customer service people, there was no clear, concise communication with them. There was usually a language barrier when I talked to the customer service people, so I didn't get appropriate help, or the notes that were taken on my account weren't correct, so I usually had to do everything through the app. It's just a series of clicks, checks and boxes with a couple of keynotes, or just calling and talking to a customer service rep until I can get a manager. Then I can hopefully clear up the issue.

I've had quite a few repairs in the last year that I have had Home Shield, so I've had a lot of people that I've had to deal with through the company. A lot of times, I've had to go through customer service, and at times, the app left gaps in communication, and there were times that the communication failed and I had to go through the app to fix what was going on. So, it's back and forth where one works and one doesn't. Most of the contractors I've had have been really great. There was just one in particular that was horrible and I would not refer to anybody. In fact, I don't think Home Shield should work with them at all. I contacted American Home Shield about them not referring other people out because of how bad the contractor was. I don't know if they listened or if they paid attention to those warnings or not.

Overall, American Home Shield is a great company. They offer good services. I would suggest that people purchase Home Shield for having their home for the first year or two. I just think that the communication barrier with the customer service representatives needs to be fixed because it caused a lot of issues when I did have to call in. The app is progressive, but I do think that they could make some improvements on it to further break down the request instead of just doing a general, “Click this box here. Click that box here,” and not having it broken down.

Home Shield has different levels of plans that one can purchase, and they could make the app individualized. Instead of just clicking leak or plumbing, I can say it's a plumbing issue, bathroom issue, toilet issue, active leak, inactive leak, or pooling. It could be a more progressive check-the-box diagnostic tool so that they can further evaluate the urgency that needs to happen with the claim so that they can place it at either non-urgent, normal schedule, or urgent within 12 hours without people having to call and deal with the customer service and have to fight the fight with that.

I guess the adage "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is" is alive and well and applies to AHS tenfold. I learned about AHS online, It seemed like a great home warranty plan. In fact, if they truly followed their contractual provisions, it probably would be, but I learned quickly that they don't. AHS hires vendors in various specialties to handle home repairs. AHS pays them a low flat rate to vendors for their work. As a result, vendors place responding to AHS customers as a low priority. But that is just the tip of the iceberg with the AHS systemic problem. Because AHS does not pay vendors appropriately for their time, the system they have created encourages fraud. Specifically, they have vendors putting in proposals to do very standard warranty work, and to that work proposal they sprinkle in necessary related work to get the job done. AHS chooses to label this necessary related work as "modifications."

The AHS contract has a provision that gives them an out and requires the homeowner to pay for these undefined modifications. The fact is the plain meaning of modification defies their definition, but most homeowners would not be sophisticated enough to question it and they probably don't. Once AHS labels some of the work as "modifications" that gives the vendor the green light to charge the homeowner for much of their time on the job, which makes the warranty a joke.

My specific experience recently, one of several in the past year, is a great example of the AHS scam at work. My HVAC unit, which is not really that old but not under the manufacturer's warranty anymore, stopped working. It took a week to get an AHS vendor to my home in the middle of a heat wave. They came, they diagnosed the problem as a freon leak. They charged me for freon (conveniently an item excluded from the contracted) charged the unit and left. This did not fix the problem. I had to get them to come back. This took another week. The vendor then advised me that a leaking coil had to be replaced.

They put in a warranty claim to AHS. AHS took days to move on it. When they finally did, they told me that there was roughly $2,000 in uncovered services! I asked both AHS and the Vendor for details. AHS claimed they would get the information from the vendor for me in writing from the vendor, which they did not do even many days later, and the vendor blew me off for days before finally returning my phone call and only offering me a verbal description of the alleged "modifications" which were standard parts of the repair. I then brought in an HVAC repair person not affiliated with AHS, who came in a day. They advised me that the repair, as I suspected, did not require anything that would fit the standard definition of "modifications," rather it was a basic, vanilla, job.

AHS would not talk to the vendor I brought in, they would not even do a conference call with me and their vendor, basically politely telling me it was my problem, and that it was between me and their vendor, when my contract is with AHS, not this vendor. I was forced to move the repair forward without AHS's help, and I will have to sue them to get the damages. I could not play games with them because I have a child suffering from asthma at home and I could not go back and forth for weeks during record heat over the summer to get them to do the right thing, which I do not believe is or was their intention. Beware of AHS. They are in business to take your money and pay nothing out.

My claim experience was seamless. I was notified who the repairman was gonna be. It was great. He was very good, polite and quiet. He was mindful of us working from home. But he came in and took his time repairing it. That was after the parts had arrived because the initial visit was to identify the issue and order the parts and come back when the parts were available. The dishwasher hasn't failed since then and it's been running daily. I would recommend AHS thoroughly 'cause they don't question. They send out the right people to work out what the issue is. With that repair, I could have experienced them to turn back and say, "No. We're not gonna repair it." But they went ahead, authorized and repaired it.

My air conditioner was busted, so AC Wizard fixed it. It took approximately five days to a week because they were waiting on the part supplier to get the part in. They just left at noon today and I left within the hour, but within that short window of time, my AC was working fine. However, I'm a little dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I thought it would be a totally covered component. It was covered, but they said something about the repair and the install making my out-of-pocket $300 to $400. In reality, maybe I would have paid that and then some without anything, but it doesn't feel good that even when something is covered, I'm still paying $400 when I allegedly have a warranty, and that's on top of paying $100 in terms of the deductible.

I would log into my account. There would be a button to click that says, "Request service." There are some drop-downs. It asks what appliance or whatever my issue was. I picked, "This was the dryer." And there was a drop-down again that said "not working". I clicked the submit button. And it seemed automatic that somebody was assigned to me. I got a text that tells me what company American Home Shield assigned it to. The tech called us and gave me a day and a window to come out. They went out and tested some things and said he thought it was the motherboard. He ordered a new one. The part came in. He came out, installed it. The dryer worked. It's all good.

We've been with AHS for 30 years. A service call used to be $35. This year it went up to 110. It was getting to the point where it wouldn't necessarily be worth it to keep the coverage moneywise. The prices have gone through the roof. We almost canceled it this year because of that. Also, they now don't replace like for like. So I would get more of a buyout. So if my Wolf range went out, they would not replace it with a Wolf range. They would say, "You get this much money," or I could pick what they offer me online. So, it has gone downhill a bit. But if you have an older home, it's probably worth it.

American Home Shield has been awesome. The latest time they sent someone out, the freezer quit working and the fridge was working. The tech said he had to replace the compressor and one other component. Then, they had to clean something off, and then everything worked great. He was fantastic. He was friendly, courteous, and not scared of dogs. He's a good friend of ours. He loves our dog and our dog loves him. We have two boys and they're very friendly with both the boys and everything's been awesome. They've been very professional the last two times they were out. It was a failed part that they had installed the first time and they replaced it and, so far, so good. We're only on 24 hours, but I can't complain about their work.

I got a AHS warranty when during the closing on my home for $785.00. When I moved in into my home I realized that my HVAC wasn't working so I called AHS. A technician was sent out for $125.00 to come and assess my HVAC and I informed that my system needed to replaced. I spoke with a customer service representative about my HVAC problem and didn't get any satisfactory answer. I was told that they couldn't cover my preexisting mechanical condition or the insufficiently maintained equipment. I told the representative that the contract stated differently. The representative told me it was all in my perception of what I read the service contract to say.

Needless to say it's been over a month and I still don't have my HVAC working and my refrigerator died due to the 90 degree temperatures in my home. I called and cancelled the warranty 8/13 for a refund and was told by the service resolution guy that I would get a refund after cancellation but AHS had to deduct the prorated time and early cancellation fee from the amount. I was suppose to get $528.88 put back on my credit card within 5 business days. So I contact AHS today about my refund and I was told that the service resolution guy didn't turn in my information for cancellation and a refund until yesterday and I should wait to see if my money would be refunded Friday. AHS has been one of the worst experiences in my life. To have taken money and not honor their service contract. I experienced gaslighting and bread crumbing throughout the whole experience and still got not help with my issue.

They couldn't decide whether it was an electrical problem or a spa tub problem. Other than that, the claims process was okay and they only charged for one. So far, the spa tub is still having trouble and the only way we can turn it on and off is by going to a switch that's located in the closet. So it's not where it's supposed to be.

High Priority Plumbing did a good job and I was very pleased with them. But American Home Shield’s customer service is not consistent. I've been with them for five years and I’m on the edge of canceling them because of that. But for some reason, I haven't because prior experiences don't add up to my last experience. The man who came for the dryer seemed so inexperienced. He ordered some parts and it took about a month for me to get back in touch with these people because they were not reachable and the owner had gone on vacation or the gentleman was not available. It was an awful experience. I was going through American Home Shield and they couldn't tell me anything. The rep said they put in a call and the contractor should contact me in three to five days. That went on for a month and upsets me a lot.

I had a Samsung refrigerator and according to my records, I've called American Home Shield six times. I don't know how many times I have to keep calling them for the same problem. My thought was if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. There's a malfunction in the refrigerator and it is gonna cost me $3000 to replace it. It's the same problem over and over again. So, American Home Shield is not living up to their standards. I can keep the $100 a month that I'm paying them and when I have a problem, I just pay whoever I'm calling that $100. I have newer products in my house, so I'm not as needy. Overall, if you're searching for a home warranty, I'm still paying AHS.

I should have involved American Home Shield before doing the repair work since I have a home warranty. I filed a complaint with the warranty company and they quickly referred someone. But the issue wasn't covered under the warranty and had to be handled through insurance. Before filing the insurance claim, I didn't take pictures. But I asked them to do the work and they replaced the garage door. When I filed the complaint, some of the pictures didn't show the work we had done. Although I paid around $4,000, only $2,000 was approved. But I agree. I don't have any issues with AHS because I should have taken the pictures. I didn't have the proof of damage. The warranty people took all the pictures but they didn't cover it. So, I hired a contractor and then approached the insurance because my friends told me that insurance usually covers it, so I reached out to them. They paid partially, which is okay.

There was confusion about what part was covered. When I filed the complaint with the warranty, they said the door was broken because the motor wasn't functioning correctly. If the issue was with the motor, they would cover it but if it was with the door, it wouldn't be under warranty. I wasn’t fully convinced by their explanation, as I felt the motor, which pulls the door, caused the damage. They ultimately didn’t pay, but I'm okay with it. But one thing that could be improved is the repeated issues we've had with our refrigerator. It keeps failing and it's becoming a hassle to fix because we have to call multiple times and remove all the food each time. It's usually the same company that comes to repair it, but I'm not sure if the problem is due to different technicians working on it or something else. They fixed it halfway but the issue persists.

They've been coming to my house for quite a few years. I work an hour and 15 minutes away from my house, and I can call or text them and and ask if they could come in the morning or in the evening. They're easy to work with. If they can do it, they try to do it. With the other people, I have to wait a couple of days, possibly, in the middle of the day. Through the years that I've been with American Home Shield, I've had a few relationships which makes it easier to get service right away. They're consistent about their service. On 6/16/24, my freezer stopped working. I submitted a claim with AHS my home warranty company. They sent a tech (ADA) out 2 weeks later who said they would not work on my GE fridge. It took an additional 2 weeks to get a second tech out (Alpha) who said on August 6 that they would order parts and for me to call on 8/19. When I called Alpha on 8/19, they informed me that they were terminated by AHS on 8/12 - I had no idea. I was not made aware of this until I called Alpha on 8/19 to schedule them to complete the repairs. Upon terminating Alpha (they would not tell me why), AHS did not look for a new vendor to fix my freezer. It was only after I called on 8/19 that they actually said they would do so.

Last week, the fridge also died causing me to throw hundreds of dollars of food out. When I spoke to AHS today, they actually tried to re-assign me ADA for the 2nd time. I told them ADA told me to my face that they will not work on my fridge. Now it's been 9 weeks since I submitted my claim and I do not even have a company scheduled to come out and evaluate my fridge and freezer. Both are running at about 68 degrees. It will take at least (best case) another 4-6 weeks to get a 3rd company here, assess the situation, order parts and then come and repair the fridge. This means that AHS will have taken over 3.5 months to fix my fridge. This is unacceptable. The problem with AHS is they use 4th rate providers who either do not know what they are doing or refuse to work for AHS' obviously lousy reimbursement rate!

The heat upstairs was up in the 80s and the tech went in the attic. He said that he didn't see a problem and that he drained the line to make sure that everything was flowing correctly, but didn't see a problem. It was still hot, but he thought that it would help to cool it down. We waited and waited for days and it never got cooler. I tried things on my own, washing, spraying the unit on the outside, and replacing filters but it never got cooler. I called again and requested that they come back out.

It took a little while before they could come out, but they did and it was a different technician. He checked upstairs and said he did not see a problem up in the attic. He checked outside and I told him it had been a while since I added Freon, so I wanted to make sure that it wasn't that. I mentioned it to the first technician, but he never said a word about it. The second tech went outside and said I was low on Freon but American Home Shield only covers a certain percent of that. He said it would be like $200. He came back and said that everything was taken care of. He had me sign something and I wrote him a check for my portion of it. He set my thermostat to 68 upstairs before he left and it never dropped below 80. I thought it may take a little while for things to kick in but nothing at all.

I called once again and American Home Shield said that they would try to expedite it. The company called and said that they couldn't get a technician out the next day, but they would have somebody available for me that Friday. He came that afternoon, went upstairs, and said that I was out of Freon. I told him they just charged me for it 36 hours ago. He said it was the leak. The sealant that they used didn't hold. I told him he never mentioned anything about a leak. Even in the documentation that he submitted said nothing about a leak. Had he mentioned something about a leak, I would have made sure that that was fixed first before adding Freon.

He said he's gonna have to charge me again for more Freon, but that the evaporator coil also needed to be replaced. I asked if that had been the problem the whole time and he said yes. The unit is fairly new outside but I didn't bother to replace the evaporator coil and I was supposed to do both of those at the same time. It was funny he said that, because they were the ones that did it. Anything that's ever been done with my AC unit had always been through American Home Shield.

Then, he turned and walked outside. I thought he was just going out to his car to get something more to have me sign something, because he didn't have me sign anything this time. But he got in his truck and he drove off. I thought he just wasn't going to service it or anything. He didn't have me sign anything and didn't say what the next steps were. The next thing I know, I got a call from somebody, telling me what my out of pocket was gonna be and it was like $2,100. I was flabbergasted by it. I could not understand why it was so much money for the evaporator coil and he said it was because I've got to do all these modifications.

I ended up calling in my own HVAC guy. There were no modifications that were needed. He got everything that he needed and replaced the evaporator coil, but there were no modifications. Also, he took pictures of my attic and came down and explained to me what the previous tech was saying I needed to do and it was bogus anyways.

I told AHS everything and they offered me cash in lieu but that wasn't even enough to cover the evaporator coil, much less the labor. Also, I had that problem with that HVAC guy and then I had a problem with the pool technician not even two weeks later. The technicians that AHS sent out were the last ones that did anything with the filter and it exploded. And the technician that came out is one that I had asked not to ever come back on to my property again because of problems I had. He said one thing and he wrote up another. He told me that my filter had nothing to do with the work that he did the last time that he came out and that filters only last 10 to 15 years and mine was manufactured in 2014. But then he wrote up that it wasn't due to wear and tear so American Home Shield denied it. I brought in my own pool company to fix the filter.

I canceled my contract with them. The technicians that they send out are absolutely horrendous and unprofessional. They tend to lean more towards what they think American Home Shield is gonna wanna hear versus truly fixing the issue. Their representatives are quick to take action, but they're very limited on what they have the authority to do. In order to get anyone to take you seriously or to do anything, you have to cancel your contract. That's the only way that you'll get someone that is empowered enough to be able to do something that same day. The problem was I truly trusted two different representatives in the retention department and what was said, even in writing, saying that they were gonna do and it never happened and I had to cancel my service.

We had a slab leak under the concrete, which was also on the wooden floor. Saka Service of Florida came out and did an evaluation of the situation. They said that they could repair the slab leak, but American Home Shield would not replace the wooden floors. AHS was only allowing $400 toward the wood floors, which would not match what we had and wouldn't even start to replace it. I denied using them and had my own company.

This one was a little confusing because it was a slab leak. We had one two months prior and we were told then that because our house was older, once we started having those types of leaks, they were gonna continue. Sure enough, two months later, we had a second one. We didn't file a claim for the first one and we just paid for it ourselves. The second one, we filed a claim and because it was under the wooden floors, they weren't gonna cover repairing the wooden floors. It had already been suggested that we go ahead and repipe the house to keep it from continually happening and we decided to go that route.

I also used AHS before for my washing machine and although I couldn't get the washer I wanted, the front load, I did get a nice machine. I opted to buy my own and they reimbursed me. I found a machine that was on sale and I only had to spend about 50 additional dollars for the machine. I was satisfied with what they offered. I just couldn't find a particular one I wanted out of what they were offering. What I think could be improved was, it took them over two weeks to come out. Once they came out, it took 15 minutes for them to tell me that they were unable to repair my machine. That bothered me. They could have told me that two weeks before. Other than that, I like the plan and the coverage. What I don't like is sometimes when I file a claim, it takes a bit longer to get the service than if I had just contacted the contractor on my own.

I like the quickness of the people coming out to the house. Recently, we were having problems with our pipes. A pipe burst. It happened on a Friday evening so we had to wait from Friday to Monday morning for a plumber. He fixed it but there was further damage from the pipe bursting. Another pipe burst in the same area so I put in another call to American Home Shield. They had the contractor come back out for no additional charge and they fixed it right away. They came out the very next day after we called them.

When I first got American Home Shield, I didn't realize that I would have to pay an additional fee for the water heater to be installed. I wish I would have known that from the beginning. It would have been a lot smoother, and I wouldn't have gotten upset. But after a while, I understood they have to pay for their guy to come out and bring in everything. I don't get upset as much as I did when I first started. Normally, the contractors will come out and do everything. The most problems we've had here has been the water. We've had things like faucets installed and pipes burst, and most of the time, they've taken care of it and we haven't been charged anything extra.

The problem I have with American Home Shield is that they have overseas customer support. Even though they could speak English, they don't know the problems we have here. The problems that they have in other countries are not the same problems as what we have here. The laws are different as well. How I explain something to them, they might not get it. American Home Shield is trying to cut back on their costs but that hurts their customer too. State to state is different as well. The problems I have here in Arizona are different from someone who's in Florida. American Home Shield can also improve on the cost. We pay 75 bucks a month plus the service call fee which went up from 100 to 125 since we've had it but I've never received a notification about it.

If you have more than one appliance, you can put it on the same ticket. I had a small issue with my fridge, a small issue with my stove and a small issue with my washing machine. The first guy that came out told me he would have to take the washing machine apart to see what was going on with it but chose not to do anything with it because he said it wasn't leaking when he was there. It was leaking on and off for a month. Some days, it would leak really bad, and some days, it would barely leak. I put that on my ticket because it could be a bigger problem. But he chose not to address that issue though he fixed the problem with my fridge and installed a new igniter for my stove so that my broiler would work again.

My washer started leaking again so I called American Home Shield and tried to tell them that I needed a recall. They said, "Sorry. It's been over 30 days and you have to pay for a new ticket." I was trying to explain to them that if the guy would have done it the first time, then I wouldn't have to do a new ticket and pay another a hundred and some dollars for it. Long Lane Home Services came out and the repairman said, "I don't wanna have to take this apart. I can see what this is right now. You have a little hole in your seal and we can replace that." He ordered the part, came back in a week, and put it back in. My washer hasn't leaked ever since.

I tried to call and complain to American Home Shield that I had to pay an extra $100 for somebody to come out because they wouldn't make the first person come back out and fix it. That was on the ticket for him to fix the washer. All he had to do was take a look at it like this guy did, and he would have known what the problem was. It would have been fixed right away. I had to pay for no reason so I was super irritated with American Home Shield at that point. Then when my new contract was up, they told me they were gonna raise the monthly price again, and they were also gonna raise the service fee twice. That's happened every single year since I've had American Home Shield. It went from $46 when I first started to $109 a month.

Recently, when I went to turn on my shower, there was no hot water. I called American Home Shield and talked to them. I had my neighbor come over earlier that morning before I even put in a ticket. He said, "The control panel is fried. The unit is already over 10 years old. You could fix that, but you need a new water heater." American Home Shield told me they should be able to get it fixed for me within 48 hours if it needed to be replaced. They put the service ticket in to this company, but I didn't get a call from them for four hours. I put it in at 7:00 in the morning on a Friday.

I called the company and they said, "American Home Shield has sent us 52 referrals in the last 24 hours, and you're number 49. We have to call back 48 people before we even get to you to talk to you about an appointment." I said, "I'm guessing that this means that there's no way you're gonna be able to come out today and diagnose?" They said, "No and even if we come out in the next week sometime, it's gonna be five to seven business days by the time American Home Shield approves your claim."

I cancelled my service ticket and called American Home Shield. I fought with them for at least 45 minutes to cancel my contract. The lady would not take no for an answer. I told them it was the last straw with them and I was not dealing with them anymore. They make me wait exorbitant amounts of time before they help me with anything. Everything has to go through this process of five to seven business days and it's not worth it. I could just save the money that they charge me monthly and pay for my own stuff.

I had an air conditioner that was no longer keeping the coolant in it, and the unit was well over 30 years old. American Home Shield was able to not only replace it, but also do so at a much lower cost. It took a little longer than I expected, but it wasn't their fault. I was not home for two and a half weeks through it, so I delayed the fixing because of my absence. It was just really hot when it was broken, and I wanted it done yesterday.

Everything I needed was done exactly when they said it was gonna be done, and it worked perfectly. I called American Home Shield last May 18, then a week later, the service people were at the house. The service person was wonderful. He came with a helper as well, and they were both really good. It was really hot the day they came. They were both in my house as well as outside and they allowed me to give them water 'cause I felt so guilty. They were efficient too. They did what they needed to do and got the job done quickly. They knew that day I knew I was gonna get a new air conditioning unit, and they were back the day that I needed them to be back, which was my first day back from vacation.

The service people were there for about four hours that day, and that was taking the old unit out and putting in the new unit. All in all, I've enjoyed having American Home Shield immensely, and I'm glad my husband did it. Their monthly fees are great 'cause I know that they're in my back pocket if I need them, and the fact that all that I paid in a year will pay for half of what I paid for the air conditioning service, I'm ahead a lot.

Smart Choice Heating & Cooling came in pretty quickly and were there for not even five minutes. They gave me an answer as to what's wrong. But nothing was able to get fixed because American Home Shield has to order the part for them to fix the issue. When the part comes in, they'll be coming back out to fix it. Most of the people that come are friendly but it's been the same thing. They get there and are able to identify the issue but if it's a part that has to come in, we have to wait for it. Then they're able to go ahead and continue working on whatever the issue might be. American Home Shield can be beneficial but at the same time, if you have an old air conditioning unit, you might end up paying quite a bit of money if you have to replace any freon.

I would like for American Home Shield to have some consistency. With the first claim, they listened and responded well. I put in a claim for a refrigerator and a dishwasher. The people that came out repaired the refrigerator and the dishwasher so I was pleased. But with the second claim, I did not get that same level of service. They denied my claim for two water heaters. They said that the water heaters were under warranty so I needed to go through the warranty company, which I did. The company that they referred to me told me that they would call me back but never did. Normally, I got a survey but American Home Shield didn't send me a survey after the water heater. They knew it was because they didn't follow up. Also, previously, I can pay once a year but it seems they're no longer offering that. You have to do the month to month, which I don't like.

American Home Shield has replaced a lot of stuff for me and most times, the replacement was something a little more updated because my stuff is really old and I've had them a while. They replaced a washing machine for me one time, as well as a refrigerator. The refrigerator I had was old and it wasn't replaceable. So, they gave me a check to get me another one and I bought it. American Home Shield's service is good. I've been with them for about six years and whenever I have something break down, they'd be on top of it and they get it fixed or replaced. I enjoy that. I always call them and let them know what's not working. I talk to someone, and then they send someone out to check.

The last claim I had with American Home Shield was when my air conditioning unit went out and my air wasn't getting cold. The main guy from the repair company came out, and he talked to me and found out what the problem was, then he sent two of his workers out. Each one of them seemed nice and seemed to be doing their job. It took about three weeks before I got my air conditioning unit fixed because different things were acting up. They replaced one thing, then a few days later, something else went out on the unit and the problem started again. The repair people came back and got it fixed, and they explained that it was just something different. From repair, my unit has been doing good. I'm pleased with it.

I filed a claim back in June 2nd, and Extreme Heating & Air came out three days later, checked it out, and said it was a compressor issue. The guy was like, "We'll send it into American Home Shield and we will see what they say." He said they have to order a part. So, I was under the impression that once they got the information, the part will be ordered. I called back the following Friday and they said no part has been ordered. It was a mix-up between American Home Shield was supposed to order it or they were supposed to order it. I reiterated that if they would get the part ordered, that would be fine. They were like, "Okay, we'll get it ordered this Friday." I waited another week and come to find out the part still hasn't been ordered.

They finally got the situation squared away where they ordered it two weeks later. So, it took another week before the parts got here. And when it got here, the guy came out and installed it. He cut a line that was connected to my water heater. They called it a wastewater system. He cut that line. I guess he crimped it really tightly so it wouldn't leak. About three hours later, the unit stopped working again.

So, I had to set up another appointment for them to come back out. The guy came out again, and said, "Oh, nothing is wrong with the unit. It's running fine right now. Well, I can't do anything." It was about 15 minutes that he was out there. About a hour later, the unit shut down again. So, I had to call again for them to come back out. The guy came back out and said, "Oh, it was a shortage in the line." We repaired the line. The unit was working again, and then two hours later, the unit shut down again.

Another week passed, and somebody else came back out and he was like, "Well, there's a crimped line." He said that the line set was crimped really badly. They said, "We'll send it in, see what American Home Shield say." AHS called and said that they will replace the unit. So, at this point, it's been two months of still going back and forth between trying to get them to come out and replace it. I don't trust the company mainly because of what happened. I wanted to get somebody else out here to replace the unit, but that's against policies. So, I decided to take the cashout payment, but then it doesn't even cover a third to replacing the unit.

They wanted to pay to replace the unit and then they wanted me to pay $3700 for something that they did. That is beyond ridiculous. It wasn't covered by American Home Shield from what they were saying. There's nothing wrong with the drainage pipe that they wanted to replace. They just threw that in to get an extra $3700 out of me. I'm extremely dissatisfied. I'm about to cancel my policy.

I've been with them in this house for at least seven years. In my previous house, it was three years. So, it's been a while that I've been with them. If the claim is something small related, you rarely will have an issue with something being repaired, but if it's something big and there's something breaks that needs to be replaced, it's a nickel-and-dime thing. They wanna throw stuff at it and see if that will correct the issue. Then when it's time to replace it, it's like, "Well, let us think about it a little bit and we'll give you these options," where you still gonna have to pay out thousands of dollars even though you have coverage for that unit up to a certain amount. My coverage was up to $5000 to have a unit replaced. I got 2,100. So, I have to come out of pocket the rest. These days, $5000 is almost half of the replacement unit.

A repair was done on the air conditioner. I travel a lot and it took me a while to come back. When I came back, I noticed it wasn't repaired the first time. They connected it wrong. Then the unit needed freon. They were telling me somebody stole it. They sent another technician and he replenished the freon and looked for leaks. They couldn't find any leaks, but they filled it up. Every time, it's 100 something dollars that American Home Shield charge me for the service call. That is uncalled for. They should have fixed it right the first time.

The air conditioner seems to be working well for a little while then it doesn't quite cool off. It stays all night. You have to keep it at 72 and it takes a long time to bring it down to cool it. I don't know what's wrong with it but I'm tired of paying American Home Shield so I'm not gonna call again and pay another service fee. I had also called for the refrigerator but I'm still having issues with the ice maker. They replaced it but it's still making ice very poorly and still freezes some areas. They replaced the seal around the door but I'm still having cold and freezing spots in the refrigerator.

The contractors cannot quite ascertain what the problem is. They had to come back with the air conditioner three times and with the refrigerator, two times. I’m not very happy with American Home Shield and I am gonna cancel them. I have a friend of mine who has another company and they charge only $60 or $70. That's a lot less money and they have better technicians.

When I did a claim for a pool repair, a contractor showed up quickly and on time. They fixed the problem, which has not always been the case. I've had several situations with American Home Shield where I've gotten lousy contractors and slow support. What usually happens is a person shows up several days after I placed the order and almost always immediately tells me they don't have the part and have to order the part which will be another several days. It seems that's the norm. They come prepared to diagnose the problem, which means you're gonna wait again to get your remedy.

For things like air conditioning systems, my experience has been bad, with their speed and ability to fix the problem without repeat visits. I live in Texas, and it's rare that I would even get a callback within 24 hours, much less a remedy. They replaced one of my air conditioning systems several years back but it took over five visits to my house for the contractor to complete the work. Thankfully, I have two air conditioner units, so we were able to sleep upstairs.

If somebody's air conditioner is out and it's July in Texas, I don't wanna hear that they're gonna contact me in 24 hours to set an appointment. I wanna hear that somebody's gonna contact me immediately, set an appointment and get somebody out here immediately. American Home Shield is supposed to have all kinds of contractors so if one can't make it, call another one, call a third one, call a fifth one. If I'm sitting here in a 3,500 square foot house with no air conditioning, it's an emergency.

Unless you read all 50 pages of this eight-month contract and memorize it, it's always a surprise. It's rarely that you just pay for the $100 service fee. There's always some, "The new freon cost extra so it's gotta be more." When they fixed my air conditioner, I ended up being charged a little over $500 for the disposal of the coils and such from the prior unit that was broken. I thought if my air conditioner is covered, then my air conditioner is covered. Why do I gotta pay for a special removal of air conditioner coils when they cover the coils in my attic and they have to be replaced according to their technician. Why am I'm gonna pay half a grand to get rid of the stuff that's in there? Sure enough, it's in the contract.

If you're covering your pool and equipment, you would think that when they come out, they're not gonna tell you, "It's been damaged by chlorine, so we can't fix it." But there's chlorine in a pool. I've had that before where I was told, "If you have an in-line chlorine system, then it voids the warranty on your pool heater." That doesn't make any sense, but it does when you look at it from American Home Shield's standpoint.

They've clearly picked out items to give them an out in more situations, where they don't have to cough it up. If my heater is not working on my pool, the first thing the repairman does is test the water. They're doing that so they can figure out right away if they can get out of having to cover anything. I had a case where I had a pool repair done. When the contractor measured the chemical in my pool, they said, "Your chlorine is high. They're not gonna pay for this." I said, "Everybody has to shock their pool every week, especially in the summer. If you take a reading the day after it's shocked, you're gonna see high chlorine." American Home Shield is almost a necessary evil. It's better than nothing, especially if you have a pool pump that flakes out on you or a $10,000 air conditioner system that needs to be fixed and replaced. It's better than having to dump all that cash out.

The pipe that goes from the air conditioner to the ground started leaking water. My husband was convinced that we needed a plumber. But when we called American Home Shield, the rep sent out the AC people. They came in but said we needed a plumber. A plumber came out he cleaned out the pipe. He ran water in it to verify that water wasn't gonna get through it. He blew air through it and was saying that it was a buildup which happens. He suggested that every month, we pour a little bit of bleach in it. I asked if it won't hurt the plastic tubes and he said, "Because it has so much water flushing through it, a little bit of bleach isn't gonna do anything to it to get cleaned out.

American Home Shield is a good investment but the monthly fee and the service charge have gone up tremendously. When we started, it was $50 a month and $50 for a contractor to come. Now, it's over $100 a month and the service charge is $100. It's way more expensive. But at least I know that I'm not gonna have a big expense that's gonna wipe us out. We were considering getting rid of it but when I talked to one of the service providers, he said if we would have called the AC people on our own, they would have charged us to come out then we would have been charged again for a plumber. With American Home Shield, I didn't have to pay another service fee because it was the same problem.

If it's a simple fix, American Home Shield is efficient. If you have anything significant, it is like pulling teeth. You can be dealing with them for several months before you get it resolved. I'm in the middle of it with the air conditioning system that I reported on May 30th. They sent somebody out quickly but they didn't take the recommendation of the technician for what was necessary for the repair. They went with a less expensive way and provided the part. We thought the compressor was working fine because when we first checked it was pumping cold air. But after using it for a short period of time, it would only run for an hour to an hour and a half and the compressor would shut off. It wouldn't cool the room down to the temperature that was being requested by the thermostat.

The technician came back out, determined that the compressor was bad, and American Home Shield provided the compressor to the technician. The technician couldn't warranty and had to go back to American Home Shield. I've been dealing with American Home Shield now for another five weeks trying to get the compressor changed, and it's still not changed. They keep going backwards. They called me and told me they were gonna send a technician out again. I said, "For what? He's already told you what the problem is. We need to order a part." They did this on a Friday night. The weekend came and there was no more action.

I'm gonna hire another company to get it fixed and I'm either gonna give American Home Shield the bill and they're gonna pay it or I'm gonna have to sue them. It's ridiculous. We have no air conditioning in a triple-digit heat. Also, when they changed out the compressor, they told me I had to refill the whole system. That cost me $1200 to replace the freon.

The claim for the AC unit went great. It's an older unit so I thought it could be anything. The guys came out and were very honest about it. They told me what was wrong. It happened to be the fan motor that turns the fan blade which operates the whole thing. They cleaned up some different things and also replaced another little part. They happened to have a motor that they needed. Within an hour or so, they were done. I didn't know if it was covered or not but they told me it was. The AC unit has worked perfectly since the day they left. I've been happy with American Home Shield and I renewed my warranty for another year.

I called American Home Shield when the refrigerator quit working. Everything in the freezer defrosted and I lost everything. The auger in my ice maker also broke. American Home Shield let me know who was coming and when they were coming. The repairman was great. We couldn't ask for anyone better. He didn't do idle chatter. He was quick, informative, and very respectful of my home with his shoes. There was a part that they no longer could get and he deemed it unrepairable. We were without a refrigerator for four days but I have a new refrigerator now. It took three days for American Home Shield to deposit the cash into my bank account.

My husband told me American Home Shield wasn't gonna work like I think it's gonna work. He didn't want them. I was with a different company. A friend of mine lost all of her appliances due to a storm and American Home Shield took care of her. My husband said, "I'll believe it if we ever have to use them." With the refrigerator claim, American Home Shield satisfied all of my husband's apprehensions.

I have two properties on AHS and I like that there's no long waiting period when I'm having to get my services done or appliances replaced. But they're not really good at following up on order requests. I understand they use vendors, but they don't follow up with the vendors that they're using. So a lot of times you spend a lot of time on the phone with these contractors, then they have to call American Home Shield, and American Home Shield says they're going to call these people. So it's a lot of back and forth sometimes. And when you're a mother, those items are essential to running the household, so I get a little frustrated with how that's being handled. But there's not a lot of other companies out there, so I don't have a lot of choices versus just being responsible for my own.

What I'm paying AHS a month, after a year, if I was to put that in my own savings account, I can replace all of my items on my own and pay for service calls. I got the platinum package and I'm paying that for two properties. So, if I'm paying almost $200 for each property, that's close to $400 a month. Times that by 12 plus the $100 service fee charge that AHS is charging me, so $4,800. But I'm not going to be making that many service calls on appliances. So if I was to take that $4,800 and put it in my own savings, I can probably save myself some money just replacing these items on my own.

Aside from that, when my dryer went out and I needed to replace it, AHS wasn't going to replace it. They told me to look inside the dryer to get the make and model number, but I couldn't even read all that stuff inside because that information was smudged due to wear and tear. And they were giving me a hard time replacing the dryer for that. It was the same thing for my dishwasher. My contract on one of my properties expired and I'm not renewing it because of the issues that I had. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to leave my second property with American Home Shield or have it serviced by another home warranty company.

American Home Shield usually does a good job. But this time right here was horrible. I had a freezer that was icing up. So, I called to have that service. The company came out here three times. The company either had a D or F rating with the Better Business Bureau. And I noticed that most of the companies that American Home Shield uses have low ratings with the BBB. The company came out. They looked and said, "The freezer door was open." That's not true. But I said, "Okay, whatever." A week later, the freezer went out completely. It stopped freezing. So, my food went bad.

I called the contractor back. They came back out, and the tech said he cleaned something off and that should be fine. I didn't believe it. And it started doing the original thing, iced up like it did, which was the first reason why I called. Also, the person who AHS sent out three times could not speak English. The person had to use Google translate to talk. And it was extremely frustrating working with them. I called Cinch back and they said, "The door is open." Not true again. That was the third time. After that, it stopped working completely again yesterday. So, I called AHS to let them know that I need somebody to come out and fix it.

Somebody has been out there three times, but the freezer has been out. My food went bad again. And they said they had to call the company. They called the company. They did not put in a status of the repair when they came out. So, AHS said that they would give the company four hours to reply. Once the company called to say what happened, they said, "We don't service stand-alone freezers, sorry." Why didn't they tell me that when the company came out the first time? I put in that original request June 16th. It's August, yet the problem still isn't fixed.

The first company said that just the inside unit needed to be replaced with a minor repair to the outside unit. The second company said, "Yes, we agree, but American Home Shield won't replace it unless we replace the outside unit first." They ordered the part to replace the outside unit. That took a week and a half. They got it installed, told us that, "We know the inside unit needs to be replaced. Call us back in three days, tell us to replace it, and we'll let the stuff go into American Home Shield." They sent them back out. They had to wait another week and a half for parts to get ordered and delivered. Finally got it all installed and it took all the process of eight weeks.

It sounded like the second company filed a fraudulent thing because it was, "We know that there's nothing wrong with the outside unit except for this, but they won't replace the inside unit unless we replace the whole outside unit first." That sounded like a scam. They tried to get money from AHS. AHS should rely on the first technicians that they send out. The thing of having to go through two different companies to get an AC replacement is an unnecessary waste of time and expense on AHS' part.

With the combination of the $1000 that I had to pay out of pocket plus the month's rent that I had to give back to the tenant for not being able to live in the house, I could have just replaced it without having AHS. Because if you add in the $1000 that and the monthly mortgage plus the $60 a month that I've been paying them for the last five years, that would have paid for the whole replacement without the delay.

I like American Home Shield. I don't have a problem with them, and I have recommended it to others. I filed a claim on the AC. It wasn't working correctly. When you would turn on the air, it wasn't pushing out the air that it should, and my bill was high. Once they came out, my bill dropped from 200 and something all the way down to 120 something. So, they've made a difference. Now, it doesn't come on unless it has to come on, but I don't have a problem with it. I don't touch it at all. I've left it at 74 degrees and it's very comfortable in here. If something's wrong with the dishwasher or something, I usually will call American Home Shield and they're the ones who'll send out a person because I don't know anybody personally to come out. If I need something done, that's who I usually go through. I've had AHS this long. They're doing something right.

When my friends come to my house and they say, "Girl, your house is 22 years old, your stuff still work?" I say, "Yeah. If something break down, I just call American Home Shield. You need to get it. It's not expensive monthly. You gotta think about everything in the world that's going up. Everything goes up anyway." American Home Shield has been great to me. They've been a wonderful company. With anything that has gone wrong, whoever they send out has been a wonderful job. You could call the people that they send out, and double-check and make sure everything is working.

There was no cold air blowing out in our AC. I called American Home Shield and it was easy to submit a claim. They told me the name of the company. I've seen him multiple times, so I knew who it was. The service provided by AC Plus was good. It's still not functioning though. It only worked for a week. I just submitted another claim yesterday. I do not live at the property any longer. I waited for three weeks. They're sending another company out. But the unit is very old and I need a new one and American Home Shield is not willing to do that. I don't know what's wrong this time. But the same thing, there's no cold air coming out.

When I spoke with them yesterday, they straight-up told me, which they’ve never said before, that they're not going to replace the unit, and if it broke, I was gonna have to buy a new one. I said, “What is the purpose of you?” I was waiting, ‘cause I have been fighting with them for a few months now. Others should shop somewhere else.

When Sears came out, they said that I had to get a new stovetop because my stovetop parts and stuff were no longer available. American Home Shield wanted to furnish me a stovetop but they did not want to furnish what came with it because the size that I have on my stovetop and the one that they purchased for me didn't fit. Sears came out and they brought the thing to fit it but it didn't fit. I called AHS and they said that was what Sears ordered. I said it doesn't fit so I asked if they could buy the one that would and they said no because they already purchased that. They said I have to take it up with Sears and find out what Sears can do. I called Sears back and they said they sent AHS the measurement and the one that they sent was too small to fit in my area. At that point, I was frustrated. I had to call somebody to cut my grain and paid $200.

Also, they didn't order the exhaust part with it and they kept saying that Sears didn't order those parts. I asked if Sears knew that they were supposed to order this part and the rep said I would have to contact them. I told her I've contacted them and this stovetop cannot work without it. We had to purchase the piece for the exhaust. It was a nightmare. Somebody did something wrong and it was a real frustrating situation with me going back with Sears and AHS and Sears blaming them and them blaming Sears. I was very dissatisfied. It was a hot-** mess dealing with them.

They said that's not covered through insurance. They always find reasons to not cover a claim and that's what they did. I had to pay out-of-pocket almost $2,000 to get it fixed. They said it was because of a short circuit, like a power surge. But there's no way to prove a power surge. It is one of those debatable things. You could just say power surge. I thought there was a leak under my house, so I had a plumber out there first. The plumber came to the conclusion that my AC drain was draining underneath my trailer, which was what was causing the leak. So the HVAC company came out and fixed it. I submitted the service request through the AHS online portal and it worked as it should. I then received an email and a text saying that somebody was assigned to it and they'd reach out to me with the name and information of the company. The tech who came out was super professional. He knew exactly what he thought it was and based on what was relayed to him from the other company that was out there, he had it fixed in two hours. He had to run a new pipe so it would drain out from underneath the trailer for the AC drain. Since then, I no longer have a lake underneath my house.

I would recommend AHS. I've had the company for a few years now and only had to use them a few times. But every time, I've gotten something fixed and it's been right the first time. The one time it wasn't right the first time wasn't the fault of either AHS or the company that came out. It was just a lack of parts. So we had to wait for some parts to come in for my dryer. I would tell my friends that if they want to protect themselves from huge bills later on, and they got a little bit of money at their disposal income, they should sign up with AHS too.

He looked at the panel and he was very knowledgeable. He showed me how I could fix it myself in the future and gave me a couple tips outside of the scope of work. So, he was very helpful. I had Comfort Pros again out from American Home Shield for a furnace issue, which also was very fast and professional. The tech also provided guidance to not need further services, something that I could do myself at home, which was very much appreciated. So, Comfort Pros is an excellent service and I have recommended it to others.

I've used AHS four times now and the service has been worth the money. I make my claims on their website and everything is very easy. And I get as immediate a response as possible through business days. So, I'm stunned because I figured it wouldn't be as good as it is, but it has been. With each individual service call I've had, it would have been more money out of pocket to call these individual companies myself rather than using American Home Shield. The value's there.

American Home Shield sent RAM Appliances for my clothes dryer that wouldn't start. They ordered a part which they said was a motor that was defective. Before they ordered the part, I told them I had trouble with this dryer a year ago and the tech that came out had told me that there are no parts available for the dryer because it's old. But RAM Appliances said they are universal parts. When the part came, they set a schedule to repair the dryer. Supposedly, it was fixed but I was leery when the guy was forcing the part into the dryer. The next day, I tried to use the dryer, but it didn't work. When I had asked the repairman if the part was under warranty, he told me it was anywhere between 30 and 90 days.

When the dryer didn't work the next day, I called the repair service, and they said they have closed that ticket and that I needed to call AHS which I did. They set up another video call, and they supposedly ordered a part. This started in May, and we were then in July. They ordered a part which came in 10 days later. They called and set up an appointment to fix the unit but the appointment was gonna be over a week out. It was not acceptable to me. I got in touch with AHS, and they said, “Maybe they can move the appointment up.” But I never heard anything more from either one, so I went and bought a new dryer. It was too aggravating and I'm not one to love to go to the laundromat. If I were to have another issue with an appliance and file a claim, I would definitely ask not to have RAM Appliances.

I had a leak and thought the water heater was leaking, but it turned out it was a plumbing leak under the water heater. The estimate of the people that AHS sent out to repair the problem was very high so I got an estimate from somewhere else. I went with the other company to repair it. But I probably should have reached out to American Home Shield before I allowed the second people to fix it because they stopped with the claim right there at the previous people. They allow so much for certain things and the allowance on that leak was $1,000. They wound up paying $450 for the leak detector. When I was questioning the thing about the plumbing and the dryer, I had to do a chat. I couldn't get them on the phone. But I wasn't satisfied with their answers on the chat. In the past, I have recommended people to go with AHS but I don't think I'll do that anymore.

He had to order a part and it was another week before he could finish the repair. Since we got American Home Shield, we've had problems with our air conditioner leaking. It does not seem to be leaking this year but in the past, we had problems with it dripping water on the floor. Their contractors have never been able to fix that so we called someone on our own to repair it 'cause the technicians that were sent never would do it.

They said the problem was a cracked drain pan. The first guy came out and tried to repair the drain pan. Then he said it was not cracked once he took everything apart and drained all the freon. We had to pay to put freon back in it. Every other person they’ve sent has said it's a cracked drain pan or the unit is not levelled and that's what was causing the dripping. Everything is something we need to repair and nothing that American Home Shield will cover. The person we paid out of pocket said that the problem was there was so much humidity in the room that the insulation in the unit was getting saturated with water and that was what was dripping. He dried it all out and it's been fine since then. It was a very minimal cost.

I set a claim to American Home Shield up online. That was a great experience. The plumber came in and got straight to work. He was surprised I knew where some of the drainage pipes were. Once I showed him where it was, he got straight to work and completed it in over an hour. I'd tell others to get AHS because they'll never know what might happen. If AHS could fix it, they'll fix it.

American Home Shield recently repaired my dishwasher. The techs were fine this time. There was one I asked about when Home Shield sent out information about having your furnace ready for the winter. Normally, I don't use Home Shield. So, I went on and paid for the service at once. They sent some jackleg out here. That was the problem I had. This guy came out here supposedly just to clean the furnace. I don't care how old it is, but my furnace still works. But he took it apart and turned off my heat. It wasn't the dead of winter, but winter had already set in. So, my husband was so upset. We had to call around to find someone to come out here to turn back on my heat. That Friday, they came. And that young man who did that didn't know what he was doing.

I called and complained. AHS said they would send someone. It was four days later. The problem was already resolved. The company that came out went on and cleaned the furnace like what they were supposed to do. It's an older system, but it's a good system and it's still working. All they had to do was continue cleaning it. I want an established company to come out to do the repair work. We're senior citizens. We sat here in a cold house. We had to pay for that service, yet we already paid them to send someone out here and never got reimbursed.

When I had water coming up out of the yard, I reached out to American Home Shield and requested a plumber to come and check on it. It was the quickest turnaround time that I had, which was 24 hours. High Priority Plumbing was great but told me it was my irrigation system, not my plumbing. I don't like that I have to do my claims online because they just give you options to guess from and I guessed it was plumbing. I would have to talk to somebody to describe the problem. I still had to pay the plumber 125 and another 125 for the irrigation because I didn't know what the issue was. I don't think I would recommend American Home Shield. I've been waiting two months for my microwave to be fixed. They take no responsibility and keep putting it off on the company, Sears. They always tell me it's the contractor but the company I'm working with is American Home Shield.

My experience with Dockside was excellent. They replaced a garbage disposal underneath the kitchen sink and they also did a couple of things in the bathroom that needed to be done and taken care of. It was on the schedule to be taken care of. My experience with American Home Shield was absolutely horrible because there were eight things that needed to be taken care of and what showed up on the list were only three.

I spoke to an actual person that did not speak English well. I talked to her for 40 minutes explaining what needed to be done. I ended up having to call back because I got a copy of the request and it only had one thing on it, and then I called back and I talked to another person and that only took 20 minutes. It's just that the eight things came out as three things.

The gentleman showed up only with three things. I was able to get in touch with American Home Shield while he was there. They said that they would take care of it. That didn't happen. He couldn't do anything beyond what was on the current list. So my understanding is, American Home Shield wants me to pay the other $100 to have the other five things taken care of.

American Home Shield sent M & P Plumbing, and they fixed both of those issues. The techs were really nice and very professional. They unclogged the drain, and they did something to the water heater. They explained it to me. I did the claims to AHS online. I've been calling in before, but I thought I would try it on the web and it ended up being really easy to use. I was really impressed. I was given the name and contact number of the service people and I was tols that they would be contacting me.

I had American Home Shield for 12 years at my other house. I moved to my new house, and they signed me up with a different one since it was a new house but I really didn't like them. So, I switched back to AHS and I've been with them for the last few years now. They are really easy to work with and they're very responsive and they listen to the customer.

The tech who came the first time didn't do a good job. He said that he came to the house and didn't fix the issue because there was a dog in the yard. I don't have a dog, so I don't know why he said that and he never came back. So, when we let American Home Shield know that, they did send another young man out that so happened to live in my neighborhood and he was able to fix it. He gave us some pointers on what's the better upgrade to do and all that for our American Home Shield because we've been with them for a while.

AHS does automatic deductions from our account before something is even fixed. I got no problem with that, but they tried to charge me a second time and I was like, "No, you're not gonna charge me a second time 'cause the first guy did not fix the problem." The rep said, "'Cause they had to come out a second time." I said, "But that's not my problem because your guy didn't fix it the first time. He said I had a dog and I don't have a dog. My neighbor got a dog, but I don't have a dog." He was at the right place, but the houses are just that close together. Other than that, everything is going well now.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 20 years, and it does help when you have items break down quite a bit and I have had several things replaced, not having to pay all that money versus going to the store again at one time. So, I've been very satisfied with that type of service. I love AHS. It's just like I'm putting money in the bank to keep until something breaks down and it's there. I don't have to get up all $600 for a brand-new washer when I know there are certain ones that they can get. With the ones that were offered, everything has seemed to be working to my advantage and it's not a cheap brand. So, I'm greatly satisfied.

He ordered the part and the part came and then it was probably 10 times the serviceman was supposed to come and they kept canceling. And then a couple of times, they didn't even cancel, they just didn't show up. I threatened to drop Home Shield and then they sent somebody out and it was the same guy who came in the first time. He fixed the dryer. He put on the thermostat that he ordered. American Home Shield did what they were supposed to do, but Sears didn't do what they were supposed to do. I have been an AHS customer since 2017. This summer my air conditioner Lennox 12J20 started giving me problems. AHS assigned a contractor - BB Mechanical Technologies. They came, but checked only the outside unit and told me that it is very low on Freon and that there's a leak and the fix will cost me $1,200 cash, since it's not covered by my contract with AHS. I asked AHS to send another contractor for the second opinion, but they refused and sent the same one again with the same result. I had no options, but to call an independent contractor, who came right away.

The real problem was in the expansion valve inside the attic unit, which needed to be replaced. Freon was normal and there was no leak. They fixed the issue the next day. I asked AHS to reimburse me the money I paid to the independent contractor, since this issue was covered by my contract with AHS, but they refused again! I contacted the Better Business Bureau and complain about this situation with AHS. Now I have a chance to get my money back, because AHS takes BBB seriously. All in all this American Home Shield is not an honest business!

We also had a claim for our stove and American Home Shield had different contractors come out. They replaced the boiler element and that took care of it. Overall, the contractors are okay. For the most part, we've been happy with American Home Shield. But I tried to cancel it last month because our son is working for a handyman service now and he can do most of the things. American Home Shield made it very hard for us to try to get out of the contract. I was getting the runaround, getting transferred and hung up on. I had to call back and start all over. The guy was not too keen on me. He said, “I'll give you two free months." I’m too nice and I don't like confrontation so I said yes. All four of the guys I spoke to were very friendly but persistent. They were not wanting me to cancel the service.

American Home Shield has also gone up a lot in price. We have to pay every time a contractor comes out. It used to be 60, then it was 75. Now it's 100. Our monthly payment also went from 70 or 80 a month up to almost double. Additionally, we've noticed that in the last few years, they're having a hard time finding providers in the Manhattan area that are willing to work for them. They end up getting people from one to two hours away so it's taking longer to get people out here.

When our AC went out, the company they assigned us to was out of Topeka, which is an hour away. That was a pain. Earlier this year, we had some water leaking in my sons' rooms. I filed a claim but they couldn't find a plumber in the area. I ended up calling a plumber that used to work with American Home Shield on my own to come out. They came out and figured out where the leak was. But we had to pay out of pocket for that. It was five days later. There was water leaking in the house, so it was not something we could wait on. That one made me a little bit angry too. I don't think anyone in the area wanted to work with them because they make it hard to get parts. I tried submitting my receipt for a reimbursement, but I didn't even get a response back to my email.

Recently, I needed our fan in our bathroom fixed. A guy came out and he was from Wichita which is two hours away. He did a great job, but it's hard when they're coming from so far away to work around that schedule. In the past up until the last couple years, I normally heard back from a provider within 24 hours. But lately, even when I did the one for the fan in the bathroom a couple months ago, I got the name of the company from American Home Shield, but the company itself didn't reach out to me right away. I finally had to start texting them asking them if they were gonna be able to come out.

Every time that the technician would put in for equipment for them to purchase, for some reason, it wasn't available. I went through that process four times, so it was not a good experience.

The value or what they wanted to give me as credit towards that system was not appropriate. They wanted to give $600 for a system that costs over $4,000. Eventually, I ended up finding someone who was able to do it, but it was not who American Home Shield suggested. I still need to get the cash-out amount from American Home Shield at this point. I'm very disappointed with AHS. I've been with them since 1995 but I'm leaving them now. It started out to be a fairly good service that they would help repair things for reasonable prices. But over the years, the prices kept going up and the quality went down. And recently, they became very stiff on something about a warranty that we called on and refused to budge on it. We called on June 4th, about a problem with our kitchen faucet and the contract coming in said that the faucets were covered. Then they told us that they wouldn't cover it because it's not covered under the new contract which started June 5th and we called on June 4th, one day ahead.

When I asked if they'd cover it since it was just a 24-hour period, they said no and that because we called on it June 4th, on the old contract, it's now considered a preexisting problem. I tried to ask them several times about that and again reminded them that I've been a loyal customer since 1995, paying quite regularly, and they refused to work with me. Their solution to me was I could go ahead and fix it with my own money. And if I could show proof that it was fixed, then if it breaks down again sometime in the future, they might fix it for me.

This infuriated me because over the years, I've had to pay extra money out of my pocket above and beyond what American Home Shield offered. And I didn't complain. When I had to put a new double oven in, because the oven I wanted wasn't available during COVID, I had to pay extra out of my own pocket to get the upgrade for the oven I needed, plus, pay for a carpenter to come in and do the changes to wood. Also, when I had a plumbing thing, AHS had no problem paying for the guy to cut the hole in the wall to fix it, but they didn't cover the money for fixing the hole in the wall.

AHS has also been hounding us. Every time I've tried to ask about talking to a supervisor about trying to alleviate this problem and come to some kind of mutual agreement on how to work it, I couldn't get anybody to chat with me on that. Yet they call me on a regular basis to remind me that I haven't paid my monthly fee and it became quite apparent to me that they were a whole lot more concerned about collecting their money than their customer service. When I told them that I'd cancel the contract, they said they wanted to work with me. I told them to have somebody call me who could work with me but I heard nothing except for another person calling and asking when I wanted to pay and if they could get my credit card info. When I told them that I still have a problem and I need that problem fixed, I heard a click and they hanged up.

Other than that, I've talked to some people at AHS and they've been very cordial. One time when I had to talk to them, they were always quick to say that I could do do the transaction online. At another time, when I had to talk to them about a problem I had with my oven, I was on the phone for over three and a half hours waiting for somebody to get on the line. I had the phone sitting next to me while I was watching TV and it was ridiculous. Then, for this last incident, I kept getting the same runaround and the reps I talked to kept repeating over and over the same thing. There was no indication of them asking what they could do to help.

Most recently, I did a claim on our roof and American Home Shield sent Elite Roofing. They were great. They called one day and came out the next. They kept in touch with us all the time. They were like, “Hey, we're coming out this day. We're gonna do this. We're gonna do that.” We had some non-covered charges that we had to pay, which were minimal. It was like $125 and their billing department kept up and sent us an invoice, and everything was hunky dory.

It's rained a couple of times since they repaired the roof, and it hasn't leaked. We have renters in our house while we're traveling. They’re house sitters, and American Home Shield has been great. We've been able to just set it up with them to call AHS when they needed them. That way, If we're 1,000 miles away, we don't have to run home to fix something.

I was very disappointed with American Home Shield. I'm no longer with them, and I'm never gonna go back to them. They're horrible. My air conditioner broke on a Friday. So, I called in. I understand it was gonna take time for them to come out. They said, "Oh, they will come out on Monday between..." It took them a long time for them to come out, and they scheduled me from 5:00 to 9:00 in Vegas time. So, the guy didn't show up until 8:30 pm at nighttime and it was already dark. You couldn't see anything outside. The guy was on the roof for a little bit. He said, "Yeah, nothing wrong with it. It's fine," and he left.

We ran the AC all night long, and nothing happened. It was still hot. So the next day, I called them, they gave me different people to come over and I have a hard time to schedule with them. They tried to make up some different day. During that time in Vegas, it was over 100 degrees. So, I ended up finding my own people to come out. It cost me 600 bucks to repair the AC. All they did was just repair the modem. It went out. They didn't know how to do it. So, I had to hire my own guy. I'm mad. I just cancelled with them. I went with a different company.

I had a kitchen sink faucet leak. I called in to AHS because the first company didn't install it correctly and it was leaking. Then Air Pro Masters came out. They installed it, but they said that their part had a manufacturer's defect. It started pouring instead of just leaking. They came in to do the repair and ended up using a box that I asked them not to use, my ManaBloc, and that caused a leak, which caused a major issue in my home which I'm still dealing with. So I'm not very happy with Air Pro Masters.

The leak had gotten so bad it went into my walls in my kitchen. They took responsibility for the manufacturer's defect on their part, then they paid to get the wall fixed, the wood dried out, and everything that came with that. However, they didn't want to take responsibility for the ManaBloc, even though I asked the plumber not to touch my ManaBloc because I've been told in the past by other plumbers not to touch it and that a lot of times the ManaBloc that were built with these houses are not good. They usually leak if you touch them. But when the tech was here, I was in Arizona while my roommate was here with him, and he still chose to use the ManaBloc. And it really pissed me off because it started leaking from the second floor to the garage ceiling.

It's still under repair and they had to pull out carpet. My son's room is halfway destroyed and he hasn't been able to use his room for weeks. It's a nightmare right now. The homeowners insurance got involved and they'll pay for the water damage, but they don't want to pay for the ManaBloc. I had to come out of pocket for that. So, Air Pro Masters is not ever coming into my home again.

Other than that, I like that AHS is very timely in that they always get someone on the job right away. They're very kind when you call and most of everything about them is good. The only thing I think they could do better is possibly have more coverage because they deny a lot of things. But it's worth having that coverage because you have that peace of mind that if something goes wrong, you can call American Home Shield. And most of the time, they'll come out and fix it or at least let you know what the problem is.

I gave them tons of information about the serial numbers, and when he got here, he didn't know one word about it. It was three times that he had to come out because he did not get any information when he came here. The claims process also got terribly mixed up. I've had AHS since 2008 and their customer service has not been good for years. When I told them that I didn't want a specific person coming out here to my house, they've had issues with it. They weren't really wanting to follow up with that or do that because X, Y, and Z. And that happened a few times. But there was a reason why I did not want that particular person to come back to my house. In the area I was living in as an African American woman, I asked AHS if there was any African American contractors that they have on their listing and they said no. So that's a little bit concerning because everyone is not always comfortable. But AHS had a hard time accepting the fact that everyone's not going to just go along because they're sending this and doing that.

Recently, one of my outlets was not working at all. I called AHS and let them know what was going on. Then they sent me something online and I got to pay ahead of time since they wouldn't do anything until you make a payment. After that, the tech came out. All in all, AHS is okay, but you might want to look at some other options in terms of coverage for your house, apartment, or condo. You want to make sure you're getting what you want and if there's an issue with the program, you want to make sure they're listening. They had a hard time listening to a lot of things.

They told me what was going on and that it would cost more to repair than to get another unit. I had to eventually call back to Carolina Appliance because it had been a week and a half and I heard nothing. I had to keep calling. Finally, Carolina Appliance told me to call American Home Shield and tell them that I had contacted them and to put in an order. I did that, and that was what got the ball rolling. Usually, I don't have much problems with American Home Shield. But this time, it was back and forth. It was three weeks before I got a new machine. Taking as long as it did, that didn't seem professional. Also, the prices keep going up and I don't like that. I keep hearing from some people that there are some cheaper home warranty companies out there, but I don't know how the cheaper ones work. I thought I was up to $75 to pay when I call in, but now I found out it's $100, and it keeps going up. The payment each month went up as well. I could just put the $75 and the money I pay each month in the bank and save it, so when something goes wrong, I can just go ahead and fix it myself. But overall, I like American Home Shield.

American Home Shield never solved my problems. Every time I call for service, they always put a lot of excuses. I'm not happy with them or with the companies they've sent. Viking Air came out for the AC unit. I asked if it could be fixed and they said according to the company, it was missing parts that was why they couldn't get it fixed. They requested for a brand-new AC unit which was $7000 that American Home Shield wouldn't cover. The repairman wanted to fix it on the side, not through American Home Shield, for $4000. I put another request before that one and it never got fixed as well. The first time the guy went over there was in December. It was not heating and he said it was low on freon. He wanted to charge $700 for freon that was not covered by American Home Shield. I sent a friend of mine over there to check the AC and it had nothing to do with freon. It was a thermostat problem and he fixed it.

I did a claim for the filter of the pool that wasn't working. It looked terrible when the contractor took it out and started taking some of those things out. They were great people and I would use them again. American Home Shield has really improved. They've been doing a wonderful job. Back in the day, sometimes it wasn't so easy to deal with them. I had to battle every time there was a problem. Someone came out here for the faucet in the kitchen sink. He wanted to put one of those small faucets, and we had a large faucet in there. I went to Home Depot and bought my own faucet.

One guy came out here to fix my toilet, and it was an awful experience. My home is not a sloppy, run-down place. When I told him he was not fixing the issue close enough, he said, "Don't tell me how to do my business. I can tell them that the place was trashy and I wouldn't have to even finish this job." He talked down to me so bad, and I'd never had that experience before. I had my doorbell Ring fixed the other week and a guy came in and they felt comfortable. But with the plumbing company, that was the worst thing I ever had in my life and the issue wasn't even fixed the proper way. I felt so intimidated and was so upset. He told me he could get me kicked out of the service and I've been with American Home Shield a long time.

The tenant was complaining about the house not cooling down properly. A contractor with American Home Shield went out there and did some work that cost me 600 and something dollars according to our property manager, which I was unaware about. I wish I would have known about it before the repair was done. I didn't even know they were changing out anything in the house and whatever they did, it did not fix the problem because I still had to pay over $9,500 for a new AC and heating unit a month later.

There was a time when I was satisfied with the service with American Home Shield. But now, no, after experiencing the long holds, trying to get in touch with a human on the phone when I have an issue. I've waited over an hour on the phone. There have been times where communication was fine. But there are other times where I'm not being made aware of expenses that I'm gonna be held responsible for. I would think that American Home Shield would get the landlord's approval before they go and order something to get it fixed but I didn't get that. They rarely pay the claims as well.

I had some duct work up in the attic that needed to be fixed. The first gentleman American Home Shield sent out didn't catch the problem so I had to call them back up to have somebody else come out. They sent out the same company and the same person who did the same bad diagnosis. I called them back again to send out another person. When that guy came out, he told me there's a big hole in my vent. When I contacted American Home Shield, they said that particular thing is not covered under my warranty which in my estimation should be because that was part of the deal.

I've been arguing with myself whether I wanna keep American Home Shield or not. Prior to that, they've been great. I had an air conditioning unit that broke. I called them up and they sent somebody out. They decided to put a new AC unit in. Then the compressor went out after six months so I called them back. I had to pay another 125 for the guy to come out. The people who installed it contacted the manufacturer, and the manufacturer said it was a bad unit and that they were gonna me a brand new unit. They gave me a better unit. But I can't say that was American Home Shield that did that. It was the installer and working with the manufacturers.

What I found with American Home Shield is you gotta be on your toes. You're the one that's gotta be proactive. You're the one that has to push them and get them to do things. If you can get them to see it the right way, then they'll take care of it. But it's work on your part. Also, their price has gone up twice. I don't like going online to file a claim as well. I usually end up talking to a person. They answer very quickly but half the time, they don't speak English very well. I've had to call back to get somebody else to talk to.

I opened up a policy on another house, and that policy is 40 bucks a month. You would think as a loyal customer, that American Home Shield would try and make the necessary adjustments, but they won't. You have to cancel your contract in order to get a better rate. They could fix my current rate to where it is reasonable, given the fact that I have two. I shouldn't have to cancel the contract and start all the way over just for them to do something, and that's what I gotta do.

That’s important. It took about an hour to get the issue fixed. But we appreciate how AHS has helped us repair things and keep that house repaired. I’ve used American Home Shield for a long time and we've stayed with them. We are very loyal. If they didn't perform, I would have left a long time ago. I went off for one year but I decided to go back. I don’t live in Amarillo anymore which was why I decided to get AHS on it. It’s gonna be easier for our kids. AHS took good care of me and got back with me the next day after I filed a claim and had somebody coming out. AR Plumbing came out and took care of both things and I haven't had any problems since. Also, the tech did a good job. He came out when he was supposed to, actually a couple of minutes early. He replaced the disposal first and got a part for the faucet. He came out the very next day and replaced it and made it work. If you're gonna have a house, you need a good way to insure all your items and AHS is great. I've done a few other claims since I've been here, and every time, they took care of me pretty good.

Our experience wasn't great this last time. We had an AC claim and this all occurred around the 4th of July so I knew that it was gonna be a little bit of a wait, but we weren't going to be at the house. They said it would be Wednesday before they could come out so, my husband took off work and went during the hours that they said they were gonna be there and nobody ever showed up. It was at our second home, which is away from our home, and he sat out there in a hot house for eight hours waiting for somebody to show up and they never did.

We called American Home Shield and told them the contractor stood us up. They wanted to send the same company but I refused. I had to fight with American Home Shield through four phone calls and talking to a supervisor because they were refusing to get a different contractor out there. I them that they needed to get a different contractor and take that other one off of their list because nobody's gonna want to go through that. They sent a different company out but it was a lot of garbage stuff that the consumer should not have to go through.

Also, they had to put in a new compressor, and I got a notice that American Home Shield was only paying like $400 of the $2000. I didn't really understand why it was such a small amount for that compressor because the house is 13 years old and I've had American Home Shield for the whole life of that house. What's so irritating about it is we've paid in more than we've ever received on that house. We have three homes under them and there was no respect for our tenure or the fact that we have multiple properties.

My husband is really unhappy with AHS at the moment because we had someone come a month ago to fix our dishwasher and they needed to get another part, which took three or four weeks to come. The part came and they came and put in the new part, but the guy who put it in did not know what he was doing and broke the dishwasher further. My husband complained to the company and said the guy that came did not know what he was doing. When he put it back together, he threw away two of the screws and there were screws missing from the dishwasher. The dishwasher couldn't work and would have leaked, the kick plate was ruined, and all our buttons didn't work. He broke it further.

The owner of the company came back last week and he looked at it. He said there was no way the dishwasher was gonna work. He said he was gonna get us a new motherboard for the buttons that don't work and screws that were missing. He said he'd come back and fix it. He was supposed to come today but my husband and I have gotten no communication from them. When my husband called them last night, they said there was a part that was on order but he was supposed to order the part last week and come today. So if he just ordered the part yesterday or the day before, there's no way he was coming today. My husband is beside himself, not because we don't feel like the guy can actually fix the problem but the communication is so bad and the fact that the guy that he hired to come to fix it broke it further. That was the worst part of it.

We just need some communication from this company. If the guy wants to come back and fix it as soon as that part comes in, maybe my husband will be a little bit less upset. But even American Home Shield is not all that responsive as far as following up. We've been using them for a long time. Is it worth the money to keep American Home Shield if this is how our experience is gonna be every single time? If we called the repair company directly, maybe we would have gotten faster service.

We've had AHS for many years and we've had at least three claims a year. We did have another issue earlier this year and they sent someone out in two hours. We had a pipe burst in the ceiling of our kitchen and we didn't have to pay the emergency plumbing fee and that was great. I think it just depends on who is coming. It seems like the repair people are not as great as the plumbing or electrical people are. If we have a plumbing issue, there's usually a plumber who can come right away. It's more the appliance repair things are always a pain. Overall, our experience with AHS has been okay but lately, it hasn't been great.

They came out and they were very professional, did the work, and ordered a part. They came back with the part on the second day and they were on time and did what they needed to do. AHS is a very good company. One time, I came home from the hospital and my air conditioner was totally shot. I called them and they had someone out there right away. The ease of putting in a ticket and the automated process are good. I like that. The company usually reaches out in 24 hours but sometimes the contractor would come visit multiple days later and it could be a week before I see somebody. I also don't like that when somebody comes out, there's always inevitably something that's not covered. There's extra work and extra cost involved. Last time, All-out Plumbing worked on my garbage disposal, which wasn't working. It wasn't turning on and it wasn't locked up so they replaced it -- love that. But the disposal they replaced was a lower horsepower, not the same model that I had. The service is great but the output is usually not 100%. Every time the technicians came back, they were saying there was a problem with the Google thermostat. I contacted Google and got a new one. But again, the technicians were reluctant to fix it. They were saying Google thermostats are junk, and they didn't want to fix it. I have heard of similar issues from other people where a technician came and they were able to fix it, and people are using it. I don't know why these guys were reluctant. They don't want to use that Google product itself. What they did was put back the conventional one which is the Honeywell.

The main reason I got the Google thermostat was to get my power bill reduced. I spent $200. Then I had to pay American Home Shield $125 to visit, but they didn't solve the issue. On top of that, it's a lot of stress and it's time-consuming to reach out to people. The contractors who are tied up with American Home Shield don't have much technical expertise. When my AC went out, I called the home warranty company and the repair people tried to fix it, but it couldn't be fixed. They sent out a second contractor, A & C Heating & Cooling. They came, but they hardly fixed my unit. I had to be calling American Home Shield for A & C because they wouldn't just call. It was a bad headache and my AC still is not working, but I refuse to just call and stress myself out. So I didn't call back A & C. I still owe them too, and as soon as I get some money, I'm gonna pay them. However, if I have a home warranty and I was paying every month, why should I owe a contractor?

A & C has not done the job as well. Even though they know what's wrong, they wouldn't tell it to American Home Shield. When I called American Home Shield, they said A & C did not put that in their report. I thought, "So what was the sense having it? What was the sense in me paying all that money?" I paid too much for something that the home warranty company didn't do. My washer went out and I thought that they were gonna replace what I had. I had a LG washer, but they sent me the cheapest manual washer. I was pissed about that. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone and I already told them that because they're a ripoff.

I worked with the plumbers, and they were fast in coming and taking care of the issue. USAA would not cover the pipe that goes under the slab and that was where American Home Shield came in. It was around 2500 for each pipe and I was able to get back a credit of $1000 because Johnny from Second Opinion Plumbing said that once a year, American Home Shield pays for that type of pipe. For the bathroom slab, I needed a letter from Second Opinion Plumbing that stated that Johnny had done the static test and there were no more leaks under the house. That test was supposed to have been done after the foundation got repaired.

At that point, I did not have Johnny's email and he wasn't calling me or sending me an email confirming that he had done it. He had a death in the family and that was why he was not able to contact anybody. When A & M Plumbing came, they told me that they could do it, but it would not be covered by American Home Shield. They were charging around $250. Then they told me about another test which was more expensive. It was around $700. But I eventually received the email from Johnny saying that he had done the static test and there were no more leaks under the house so I did not hire A & M to do another static test.

This year I qualified for AARP discount so the price went down further. I got a notification from AARP telling me that we should get $155 off American Home Shield. I called them and they divided it per month and dropped the rate for me. I used them when my AC capacitor went out. In less than 24 hours, a repairman came in and did a replacement of the capacitor this summer. I placed the claim on a Saturday, and he was here Sunday morning. He was friendly.

Reaching out to American Home Shield has been easy. I always do it online. I'm an old guy, and it's simple. I put my order in, then they respond and make sure I know what's going on. They tell me who's coming. They'll send a text about if I need to call the company, then I should be getting in touch with them on a certain time. I've never had to wait on that certain time because they've always gotten in touch beforehand. They're good.

The only problem I had was with the very first plumber that was sent. He didn't do a good job, and American Home Shield got rid of that company 'cause it wasn't a good one. On the other hand, Patriot Plumbing has been outstanding. The people are personable. The guy knows what he's doing. He's seen some stuff in here that I needed to get fixed and helped me get it done. I would call them. I would also tell anyone that gets a house that the first thing they should do is to get American Home Shield. I've seen Angie's List. I've been over there and saw how they do. I did the right thing with American Home Shield.

It's been positive with American Home Shield. There's a monthly fee that they charge and that has pretty much remained the same. But whenever you call and make a claim, there is a service charge that's over $100 that they ask that it be paid before they give your order to a contractor. That's a little bit bothersome because you're paying a monthly fee plus a service fee. If the service charge was something like $80 per claim, that would be preferable.

But overall, it's still a good deal. When we remodeled the kitchen, we bought top of the line appliances. A year or so later, some of the appliance companies offered extended warranties that were for three to five years which added up to quite a bit of money. If you compare that to what I'm paying now for a claim and for the monthly fee, what I'm getting with American Home Shield is not a bad deal. I've had them for six years, and every year, there's always an appliance issue. If I didn't have American Home Shield then, and in the absence of extended warranties, there would be some pretty huge expenses. Recently, a contractor came out, corrected the problem, and we haven't had any problems since then.

We have AHS for over five years and we had numerous issues with them on more than one occasion. Recently, our air went out, it was in the worst heat it, and it took AHS over a month and a half to do anything. They kept saying the condenser unit was ordered, but it wasn't ordered. Then they finally let the contractor get their own unit so we could get some air. I had to fight with them to pay for a window unit that we had to purchase or we'd had to move out. But the techs were fine.

I've had American Home Shield for about 15 years. I like knowing that if anything goes wrong in my house, like my washer or my dryer, I can call them and they will send someone out and fix them. Last time, my fan wouldn't go off and it wasn't putting out cool air. The repair people had to put in two parts for that and something else, and now, everything's working good. The first tech came when my kids were here, but I didn't see him. I was just coming in the door, and then the one that really did the repairing of the air was a very good technician. I really liked him.

I called American Home Shield because my room was hot. It was easy to submit a service request for my air conditioning unit, but when tech came out, all he did was look around and make some suggestions. He said that one of the ducts going into our room was a bit too small, then he said that the outside unit needed to be cleaned. American Home Shield said they wouldn't pay for it, so I'll have to find someone else to do that.

I've enjoyed American Home Shield so far. They've been really good. I call and they send somebody out right away. The recent one was for a plumbing problem. There was a leak and we didn't know where it was, but then I found it up under the sink in my kitchen. American Home Shield sent out Ken Tyler Plumbing, and the plumber was supposed to get here about 10:30 that morning, but he didn't get here till about 1:00. He was working on another job and he delayed on it, but he kept calling me. He got here about 1:00 and he was gone about 3:30.

When the plumber was leaving, I thought he was gonna have to come back. So I asked him, "So what's gonna take place? What are you gonna have to do and when you're coming back?" He said, "I fixed it." I said, "You fixed it already?" He said, "Yes, ma'am." The plumber cut out a spot and fixed the leak and he did a good job. It's still holding. He's also been out here three other times and he's always cleaned up after himself. One time I found something that I didn't think was right a day or two later, so I called him and he came back out here and redid it. He's a good plumber.

American Home Shield's price is good with what they've done. They have to take care of some things for me though. I'm still waiting on the repair people to complete my dryer claim. They came out and put a new motor and something else on it, but I still have a part here. They haven't finished the job. I've been talking to them for about a month now, and they were supposed to schedule the service, but they never called me.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield and I've recommended them to other people. I’ve had to call in a few claims and they've always been very responsive. Recently, my wife did a claim for our heat and air unit that wasn't working. The technician who came did a good job. There was a replacement made on that unit. We've had to do a hot water heater claim as well. The bottom of it had started leaking and it was deemed unrepairable. American Home Shield had to replace it. I'm paying them $100 a month but they help to cover unexpected expenses.

American Home Shield has been very efficient executing the plan that I have with them. I've been with them for over 10 years and I got two policies with them. If I have any issues, they’re usually quick about getting them resolved. They're dealing with a lot of people and they might not have a company available that day but I don't have to wait too long for it. They would send someone out and most of the time, the companies are efficient and prompt about getting out and taking care of the issue. When they come in and do any work, they ensure that they pick up the items that they have and the area they are working on is clean. I recently had an electrical problem. The contractor called American Home Shield back and told them that they had to do some wiring and something additional. American Home Shield was able to approve it and the guys came back out later and got it done.

A wire panel had burned up and AHS assigned Red Line Electrical Services to my claim. It took them a month to come out and I kept calling and complaining. Nobody wanted to do it and they said that AHS didn't pay people. In the end, a tech came out and replaced one wire. Everything is good now with the electrical stuff. My dishwasher is messed up at the moment but I won’t make a claim on that because AHS is not going to do anything about it. Also, I initially switched to AHS from another insurance company because they were cheaper. But now they went up. Their claims process is difficult, too. I pay them money, then I got to wait three to four days for somebody to contact me back. I’d tell my friends that I got a bad experience with AHS and I’d tell them to shop around. But I have a sister that got American Home Shield in Jacksonville and she said they were really good.

My refrigerator stopped cooling, so I paid $133 for a service appointment. Unfortunately, the technician from Sears was unprofessional and unhelpful. He incorrectly diagnosed the issue, claiming that the compressor was faulty and that the refrigerator, being an LG, was still under warranty. He ordered the necessary parts, but as of today, August 13th, I have been without a refrigerator for a month with no update on when the parts will arrive. Despite numerous calls to both American Home Shield and Sears, there has been no resolution or communication regarding the delay. I purchased home insurance for peace of mind, not for this level of inconvenience and frustration. What a scam.

I have had the worst service ever. Don't bother with AHS. If I had to rate their horrible service I would give them a 10 for the worst service. Their customer service is horrible. They never call you when they say. They deny claims. They never put anything in writing. They have technicians working for them that are very unprofessional and rude. They will charge you a service fee and then never show up for your appointment but they say they did. The technician never answer their phone or come out on time. They have poor communication. They are not worth having as your home warranty company. I wouldn't even give them one star but I had to. If you have any of these problems call the California Department of Insurance and they will investigate. It's a wonder how they're still in business.
