I've had AHS in three different cities, Dallas, El Paso, and now San Antonio. My previous experience had been wonderful. However, this time in San Antonio, it was completely awful. It took three months to get my refrigerator fixed. The vendors that they referred me to would schedule appointments with no-show. I have confirmations of all of the appointments that I scheduled. American Home Shield didn't do anything to fix it.
When they moved it to another vendor, the second vendor came out and said that the refrigerator was covered under the previous manufacturer warranty and therefore, I needed to go through the manufacturer. American Home Shield still hasn't reimbursed me for the $100 deductible that I paid back in March to get my refrigerator fixed. All they did was send me a letter and told me that because the manufacturer would still cover my refrigerator that they were not going to cover it.

AHS is a good company. I recommend it. Everything was fine in my experience with them. My recent claim was for the AC. I had a power outage for 10 days. And I couldn't start the AC, so I called AHS. But when the techs came, it started working.

The air conditioning wasn't working and I submitted the claim online to American Home Shield. They sent me a text message about what the company was and that they would contact me to set up the appointment. The contractor, Airflo, did well. The coils had frozen up so the techs waited until the coils unfroze, which took about a day. Then, they put Freon in it and it’s working fine now.

The guys that AHS sends out are usually friendly and knowledgeable. They will also tell you if you need something else. AHS sent one out to me when there was something wrong with the switch in the bathrooms. He told me it just needed to be reset and everything was okay once he told me what to do. Before that, I had a claim for my air conditioner, then I found out it was something somebody worked on before and that they didn't plug it back in correctly. So, the tech didn't have to do anything, but he informed me that I'm going to need a new unit eventually. So, he was really helpful.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

I had the dishwasher replaced through American Home Shield. They replaced with a new dishwasher since the previous could not be fixed. And then, once it got replaced, over the next few months, we kept getting this error message on the dishwasher where it would randomly just stop. So, then I called American Home Shield a couple of times and then somehow when the technician came in, the dishwasher was working. I could not replicate the issue that I used to have sometimes. So, it was on and off.
When I looked up the issue online, the error message was like E1F9, which indicates that it is kind of a drain issue. I would hit "cancel cycle" and then "drain" and then it would run through the whole cycle. Randomly, it would stop. So, then, also, we saw some water outside the dishwasher. Like the wood was kind of damp. We've called American Home Shield twice, where they said, "Oh, the dishwasher is running fine. I don't see the problem. When it occurs, that's when I can see what's going on." So we could never replicate the issue while someone was here.
My husband called Maytag since the appliance was less than a year old. So, the tech came in two days ago and he pulled the dishwasher. The bottom line is the hose that connects to the garbage disposal was not connected. The dishwasher was draining on the wood floor. The pipe was leaking. We were told that it was not installed properly. American Home Shield had me call the company that installed it. So I called the person who installed it and according to him, the installation was done properly. But I see the hardwood under the dishwasher is just gone. It's fully damaged. It's all rotten. What I noticed was surrounding the dishwasher, I saw the wood was kind of getting damp. This has been going on for a few months.
We were in Charlotte for 18 years and we had American Home Shield then. We moved to Cary and the previous owners of our house had another insurance company. So, we continued with that and when that ran out, we shifted to American Home Shield. They have been amazing through all of our issues here. But this dishwasher issue was just an anomaly.

I'm happy with American Home Shield and I would recommend it for others. We had a minor leak in our dishwasher and it was replacing the seal that goes around the front of the dishwasher that keeps the water sealed inside the dishwasher. We've always had good success with AHS. If there was anything that would be a potential knock is maybe how long it takes to get the service or how long it takes to get the parts. But when they're there, the work gets done and done right.

My AC had a problem and it needed Freon. The contractor that AHS sent out who serviced it said it needed six pounds and they were charging $100 a pound, which meant that I would have to pay $600. American Home Shield was covering the cost of the repair of the particular air conditioning, but not the Freon. I got someone to replace the Freon not only in that air conditioner, but my other unit, and they only charged me $300. So I ended up paying actually $300 less to get two air conditioners taken care of. Not only that, but they did the repair. The AHS people who came out didn't even do the repairs and they didn't put the Freon in there either. So they did nothing. I had another similar incident with that where I had to pay out of pocket on something that I submitted a claim on. I'm really looking at possibly, before the end of the year, going to another home warranty.

I used to think American Home Shield was good, but the last few years, they have not fixed anything that I've called them about. It has been the last seven things that I've called for have not been covered. The last time the contractor came out they said it was the electric wiring to the pool lights. They've been out twice. What I found with American Home Shield was they work with the people that come out to fix our items. It's not like the contractor comes out and they give an unbiased opinion of what's wrong with whatever it is I called for. Because that time they came out, they said it wasn't covered, but that company could repair it for some amount, and they caught me without thinking about it. But they could repair it. I had somebody else come out, and it wasn't that at all.
They were out once before for the spa and looked at it. It was a woman and she left. She came back on my property without asking. She said that something about the water hadn't been consistently kept at the right chlorine and the other things that you have in your pool were not consistently at the right place. That ruined the spa heater, and it wouldn't be covered. I said, “Nobody keeps their pool chemicals exactly at the right place,” because after a week, they would be different. They would always be up and down. I have a pool service. But AHS didn't cover it because of that.
I went round and round with AHS about the stove. I have a four burner gas stove, and the contractor said it wouldn't be covered because it was due to wear and tear. There was some spill underneath, which I cleaned up, but it wasn't dirty. I fixed two of the burners myself by putting WD-40 on the part that you turn to turn it on, because they were tight. I left it, and kept pressing them up and down. I got them to work. There was also something with the oven and I fixed that myself as well because AHS said that wasn't covered.
If they said my stove couldn't be fixed, they should have paid for a new one. But they didn't want to give me any money towards the new one. I called and called, and they went round and round in circles with me. It was impossible to get anywhere with them. If it's obsolete or they couldn't get the parts for it, they had to pay me for a new one. But they wouldn't.
There was another thing with my hot water heater that went bad. I've asked AHS to send me a copy of my contract three times. I still haven't got one. I've given up now, I haven't asked for it for a while. Because I wanted to check this. They said that it wasn't covered because it was still under warranty. So I had to take that back, have somebody take that back to Home Depot and get a new one. But I had to pay for somebody to get rid of the hot water heater and bring a hot water heater from Home Depot to my house and put it in.

With one of my claims with AHS, it took me a while to get the money because they would not put in the right address. It took me six months to get the money ‘cause I had to call back and find out what was going on. A young lady found out what it was. It was a P.O. Box and they had to put everything together. They put PO and then Box. Then it had a period in there. She straightened it out and I finally got my money. Regarding contractors, some of them listen to you but some of them don't. Also, sometimes, some things cannot be repaired but they still wanna try to fix it. Then I'm gonna have the same problem again. They're good on some repairs, but some repairs, they're not.

Price Right came out fairly quickly. They came out after I called American Home Shield and made my claim asking for the dish disposal to be replaced because it wasn't working and wasn't resetting. The tech opened it up, cleaned it out, and then reset it and it fired back up. But it went down again within the next couple of days. I try not to create that back and forth situation, but they said once the ticket is open, they could come back within 90 days. So, he came back and took a look at it, but they didn't replace it. He went in and he said, "I think something happened in the blade." I know how to reset the dish disposal but ultimately, once it got past that day, I had to pay for it again.
I've had some not-so-good experiences with Home Shield like with my water heater that's rusted at the bottom. It really does need to be replaced. Home Shield was like, "That's fine." The company that came out to do it said they wanted me to pay for the pan that goes underneath it because the pan didn't come with the unit and I was like, "Okay." And they said Home Shield wouldn't cover the pan, but the pan is required by law to be underneath there. Home Shield will only cover the unit and not the pan. So I was like, "Okay, that's cool. Not a problem." But then they said they couldn't install the unit because they needed to lift the entire AC system up so they could put the new water tank in and Home Shield would not cover the other part. I was just like, "Okay." I can't replace my water heater right now because that's so costly.
The AC is covered, so I need another claim. They weren't clear on how to resolve the issue because the unit does need to be lifted. The AC unit does need to be lifted and it could possibly cause damage as well as we've had other issues in the house with the AC unit. So why not just use that as an opportunity to have both done at the same time, lift it, and the other one and this can come on and do that and I was gonna pay for the pan. And if there was anything extra with the AC, I would've paid that too. But to pay for that, it's almost like a $10,000 job, which is crazy. So Overall, I pay for Home Shield, but I can't always use it. It's not always beneficial to use it.
Overall, Home Shield is not horrible. They just need to choose better vendors. They did a great job of replacing my refrigerator. It has an ice machine to it and a water machine to it. The people came, just plugged the refrigerator up, replaced the stove, and left. They never connected the hoses and the ice tray. So, I got a refrigerator that has two things on that don't work. I'm gonna try to call them back to fix it. Home Shield said I need to call the vendor. The vendor never answered the phone. They did not return my phone call ever. So, to this day, I have a refrigerator that does not fully work. So, Home Shield is good as far as responding and getting the people out. I just think they need to choose better vendors to take care of this stuff.
We're thrilled to hear that you were satisfied with our services. Your feedback is appreciated, and we look forward to helping you again.

Updated on 11/17/2024: American Home Shield has been good. They send people out to fix stuff, and the customer service is good. They sent two different people out for my refrigerator when it broke. The first set of people came about five times and still couldn't get it right. They didn't know what they were doing. The reliable people came last and the guy was very knowledgeable. He was able to find the problem and got the unit fixed. After he got the parts, he put it on and everything worked fine.
Original Review: The techs of AHS have been all right. Sometimes they are dated out too much, but that could be anybody. But I haven't had any problems. For my recent claim, the refrigerator is not working. The techs said that they were giving AHS a quote on the compressor. They gotta replace the compressor. But I don't have a date yet for my refrigerator to get fixed.

My AC unit was not cooling. I filed a claim with American Home Shield through the online app, and they assigned the company in my area. The company reached out to me to schedule an appointment and 24 hours before the appointment, they told me to turn the unit off. They came on site and the tech assessed it. One of the breakers in the house tripped and the tech did the repair. I was satisfied with him. They also got there in the time that they said they were gonna get there and assessed the situation. They were professional. I've been protected with AHS for three years now and I have four other homes that I have covered on it as well. I like the ease of placing the claim, and them assigning the professionals and just paying my deductible, also the minimal out of pocket expense, other than the deductible. They've done a done a good job thus far.

We've been with American Home Shield for over seven years and we’ve paid over $10,000. Right now, we have an issue with a faucet and they wanna replace my faucet with a cheap chrome-colored faucet and I'm highly disappointed. We've been back and forth with them for over five days now so we’re having to truck in water from another sink to our kitchen so we can wash dishes.
Not only are the people at American Home Shield difficult to understand, but you can also call about the same issue three times, and every single time that you contact somebody there, you get a different explanation. So, I’m leaving American Home Shield. I'm not happy with them. We just got off the phone with another warranty company and we’re gonna be jumping over. In the future, I will not recommend American Home Shield to any of my family members or anybody that I know and using social media, I will post my displeasure. Maybe one of their representatives who's a supervisor or manager with the company would love to call me. I would love to have their ear for a whole two minutes.

My most recent claim was not a good experience. The issue with American Home Shield and Air Majesty in this case was that there was a delay in ordering parts or a delay in communication with the folks that needed to do the work that was necessary on the air conditioning. The customer service experience with AHS was okay, but the issue is their communication to the service provider. Sometimes when they say, "Oh, we're gonna follow up and have the service provider call you," it doesn't always work out. While it worked out in the end, it was a long experience in terms of timing to get the air conditioner fixed.

I tell everybody about American Home Shield. It came when we bought the house and we renewed it every year. It's not the newest house, so we're having issues with things here and there. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind that I don't have to work on the house or learn how to fix something off of YouTube. I could call them and the claim would get done. There was one time when our hot water heater went out and it took about a week to get a PO for the new hot water heater. I was having to send my kids to other people's houses to take showers. Other than that, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield. The people they send are normally knowledgeable, do what they need to do, and fix what they need to fix.

I was not satisfied with the service I received from the electrician that American Home Shield sent out. He made the issue worse. I wound up having the work done myself by a local electrician not through American Home Shield because my option was to call in another electrician who was not gonna be familiar with this area, and if he agreed with the first electrician, then I was gonna be on the hook for the cost of materials. The cost of materials for that job would have been in the thousands, whereas my electrician locally did it in compliance with code for 300 bucks. I'm upset about that last event and after that experience, I started shopping other home warranties. I've been an American Home Shield customer for a very long time. This was my first dissatisfaction with them, but it was a substantial one. They got an earful of my feedback but it did not make a bit of difference.

I had good luck with American Home Shield up until this latest claim. I called in February. The problem was my furnace. The only way it would come on was I'd have turned the electricity off back on. It's a gas furnace, but it has electricity too, and I had to keep flipping the switch off and on. So, they came and they said some of the part was wrong with it. They didn't fix it. It was a panel they said they need to put in. Then they told me that there was something else that had to be done. They had to replace some wires. I forgot what else they did. But then that didn't fix it either. So, then when the guy came back the third time, he said that what was going on was that the little door that opens and closes that has to be closed before the furnace will come on wasn't closing. So, he said he would order the parts. And then as soon as they got it, they’d put it in.
In April, I got a message that said, “Part was ordered.” But it was on backorder. I never did hear back from them again. So, I talked to the owner of Billy's AC. He said, “Well, I've got a message that it has been shipped.” I still have not heard anything from them. I don't need my furnace right now, but I will be needing it later this year. American Home Shield's reps gave fast service. The very day that I asked for service, they told me that it would be Billy's AC and that they would call me. But the last time that I have spoken with people in American Home Shield was on July 3rd, and the person I talked to said that he’d check into it. I haven't heard anything back from them either.
I did have a problem with this same company once before. My air conditioner went out. And it was during the summertime, which was the hottest part of the summer later on. It took seven weeks to get them to put that in here. I couldn't even stay at home. I recently had to have service done on my refrigerator. The guy came and checked it. He ordered the parts. A week later, it was fixed. I've never had any problem with anybody except with Billy's AC.

I'm having a hard time getting service. A lot of times, it's more aggravation than it's worth. My most recent claim was in March and it's still not resolved. American Home Shield assigned six contractors, none of which showed up for several months. They kept reassigning different contractors. Twice they reassigned the same contractor that never showed up. Then they finally authorized an outside service company who told them that it couldn't be fixed. Now I'm still waiting and it's almost four months now.
American Home Shield has very bad customer service. Everybody's nice but nothing gets done. You have to call six times about the same thing. They have great scripts, and they empathize with you, but they have no authority. When they say they're gonna follow up, it takes many phone calls to get anything done. They tell they’re gonna do something but you never can reach out and talk to the same person again. Nobody has a phone number or an email. I've called dozens of times about these appliances. It’s this company's policy to stretch things out and not to take care of things. A lot of times, it takes months and tons of calls to get things resolved. If you don't follow up, nobody there does anything. They have very poor contractors in this area. They're not competent. They only work for American Home Shield and tend to not respond to the customer at all.
I’ve had very poor experiences with the way the contractors have been vetted. I've had contractors come and put the wrong part in the dishwasher and leaked on the floor. You can't get anybody on the phone for another two weeks to come back. That guy refused to come back, so American Home Shield sent another party. Eventually, they replaced it but that took several months. Somebody needs to do a much better job vetting their contractors. None of the contractors tend to have any outside business that I've experienced in my area so they don't have any ratings.

I have a claim with American Home Shield that's been open since the middle of June. I went out of the country for two and a half weeks in the middle of it so they couldn't come back until after I returned. Then I had to wait to get another appointment. I got back right before the 4th of July so there was a short week. But they've been very good about giving me returns when the thing isn't working. The repair people haven't figured out what is wrong with it. They've replaced a couple of parts and it seems to be working but by the next day it's not. The worker who comes out here answers any questions I have and tries to explain and show me everything.
This is the first time I've had to have a callback, that somebody hasn't been able to figure out which part it is that isn't working. I've had several claims with American Home Shield and I've had no problem with any of them. When I had a garbage disposal that wasn't working, they replaced it that day. 30 years ago when we purchased our first house in Florida, our neighbor suggested getting American Home Shield and we did. We've been with them ever since. Submitting claims is easy to do. We used to call in and now, we do it online and it's quick and easy. The response time from the vendor who comes to repair the situation has been very quick, within 24 hours. Sometimes, for them to fix the situation might take longer based on what it was or getting the parts could be a problem sometimes. But as far as the people that has come and done the repairs, we have no complaints. They've done a great job and they stand behind their product.
We had an upstairs air conditioning that went out and in Mississippi during the summertime, that's not a good thing. It took two and a half weeks to get the AC put in, but it wasn't American Home Shield's fault. Once it arrived, they called and I told them that I had to be out of the house by 1 o'clock for a doctor's appointment that I could not miss. They showed up at 11 o'clock and they were done by 12:30. They did a great job and they were very professional. They got it working and cleaned up after themselves.
Also, we had a microwave replaced. It went out and wouldn't work anymore. I called them up, told them about it, and told them what model number we had. Two days later, the contractor came out and installed a new one -- exactly like what we had. We haven't called American Home Shield for a lot of things, but when we have a big ticket item such as a dishwasher or stove or AC unit or heating unit, it's very helpful to have them. What I had to pay out of pocket was $100 service fee and $1,600 for parts and labor that was not included in the warranty and if I didn't have American Home Shield, to get the same AC unit installed would have cost me $6,500. American Home Shield saves you money and it's a good product to have.
We greatly appreciate your loyalty to us and thank you again for sharing your experience.

I had an issue with a leak in the bathroom and when the tech from Pro Tech Plumbing got here, there wasn't really one. They put a covering over the shower basin and he said that the water leak that was coming out of the shower was just some residual water. Then, just last week, there was an air condition problem with a motor and a surge had blown the motor and control board. That service was pretty good and I was satisfied with. But I’ve had other services that weren't good. I was surprised that AHS took care of this because there’s been a lot of things I've done in the recent years that wasn't covered or I had to take care of myself.

It took three months for AHS to come out and fix the refrigerator and then they didn't fix it right. There were three parts that needed to be replaced on it. The initial contact was in March and they didn't complete it. They left the house a mess and there was water all over the floor. They put in the unit backwards, upside down for the shelving so we couldn't get the shelving. It was an awful experience. Supposedly, they had the parts and they were gonna expedite it but they didn't expedite it. Also, the tech was terrible. He didn't even order all the pieces timely. He waited a month and then did it week by week.
It was terribly handled and I'm very disappointed. We were trying to get information and AHS kept on transferring me to another person, another department. I called to cancel and the rep didn't complete the cancellation when I told him. I said that I was not gonna renew. Why would I renew when it takes three months to get a refrigerator fixed? They keep on emailing me and texting that I'm overdue on my payments. They aren't following through with anything.

I had trouble with A1. So, I'm not too thrilled with that company. I had a water heater thing and then the pipes that were going to the water heater were leaking. They didn't wanna fix it. I had to get angry and call American Home Shield while they were here because they didn't wanna fix what they were here to fix. AHS had to call their supervisor. A couple days later, it burst again and they had to come back out. It was not good. AHS was okay. I told them I don't want A1 coming out anymore. They wound up giving me $50 back because I had to pay $100 twice for them to come out, and I wasn't satisfied at all. I've been a customer for a very long time. I've had good and bad experiences. It depends on who I get. Some people are willing to help me. Some people could care less. I've had a couple of times where I've not been satisfied. Some of the customer service people from American Home Shield are really good, but some flat out suck. Some other people were helpful too. However, I would get a different answer almost every time from a different person. They state one thing, then next time I call and talk to them, it was something completely different or "We can't find this information in the system." It was a nightmare.
I had a service request for an air conditioning unit, and it took just over 30 days to finally resolve the issue. It took 10 days for a blow motor, and a blade. That didn't fix the problem, then the contractor decided the unit itself had to be replaced. That was an additional three weeks, and the amount they wanted me to pay out of pocket was ridiculous. It was too expensive. American Home Shield gives a cash buyout or I could go with the vendor they use, but it was almost gonna be $5,000 just for the labor. It wasn't a very good experience. I wasn't there at the time. I had somebody else there, but I spoke with the contractor and he went over everything with me. I said, "Hey, this is the third time you guys are out. And now you guys are giving a completely different diagnostic of this. Now, the whole unit needs to be replaced according to you guys." It was a very frustrating thing to deal with with these people.
The problem was, it was such a miscommunication between American Home Shield and the vendor. It got really ugly for weeks. They went back and forth, and here I was stuck in the middle with no ac. All I have been able to do so far is have a window ac to circulate the air through the living room and the kitchen. I'll probably end up switching from them at the end of the year when my contract's up.

I got bad results with American Home Shield. One of the technicians who came out was good, and they refused to let him continue doing the work. They dropped him and let someone else come out. I got four air conditioners. They didn't fix the air conditioners. I ended up calling a company that I found myself to come out and fix my air conditioner. AHS wanted me to pay about 2,300 to the company. I asked them what would they pay, and they told me they weren't paying anything. So, I'm still debating on whether I'm gonna cancel my service with them or not.
I've been with them for about five years, and that was the first time I had an issue like that. I have referred American Home Shield to four of my friends who got American Home Shield. And all of a sudden, they turned toward me because of the air conditioning that could have been fixed. They could have paid half and I could have paid half. I'm paying the warranty for them to pay, and they won't pay any of it. I'd tell others to go somewhere else.

I recently had a plumbing claim and once somebody came and repaired it, I didn't have issues after. I've had American Home Shield for 12 years. The cost is something that turns me off. Just like everything, stuff goes up but it seems like the cost goes up every year. I get labor costs have gone up and all the things that'd be passed on to consumers, but that's the only thing that has been a thorn in my side. I started off paying 50-something dollars. Now, I'm up to almost $100 plus the $100 for a service call. I use them. I've taken advantage of it. So, I always weigh if I am getting the benefit. For now, because I've had to use them so often, I feel like I'm getting the benefits. But it is something that would make me question whether I would continue with it if I stopped using it regularly.

For my plumbing claim, I was having a problem with the shower, and even though we tried changing the showerhead, it was still leaking. The plumber had to do something inside the mechanism itself in the wall. He had a bit of a problem with the showerhead, so it took him two hours to fix everything. They did not give me clear information and I needed to call other people to find out the exact model and serial number. I ordered it myself, but I also needed to follow up multiple times to fix one simple faucet in my home, then finally, they fixed it. What the customer wants and what American Home Shield says are completely different. Other than that, it's good.

I have a yard man that comes out and they said that some wires were cut by a weed eater. I had to replace that. Someone had bypass the internal switch. I'm not an electrician. Any time that unit was serviced, it was serviced by someone else. And I don't know how to go behind technicians and check and see whether or not they're doing their work right. My most recent claim was my refrigerator and I had fits with that. I've never had problems with American Home Shield the way I have had with my refrigerator. I've had several things break down over the past three months and everything has been fixed properly up until the issue with the refrigerator. It took a month. AHS subcontracted it out to Sears and they ordered the parts. It took a month for the parts to come in. So, I was without a reliable refrigerator for over a month. I would blow up on the people that I talked to on the phone because I got tired of having to deal with the issue with the refrigerator.
The first time that they scheduled a technician to come out because the parts came in after me waiting for a month, the technician didn't show up. No call, no show. I was perturbed with that also. There were several times that I had to call Sears to find out was going on because I would have things scheduled and somebody wouldn't show up or something would always come up. I called AHS and they got somebody to come out and he repaired it and there was still something else wrong with it. So, he had to order some more parts. May 29th was when I put that request in for my refrigerator to be fixed. The tech finally came out and got the rest of the parts in. Today was the day it got fixed. The tech seemed was a decent fellow. He has the personality of a rock. But he came in, did his job and got out of there.

I asked for a second opinion and American Home Shield said they couldn't have a second opinion because the water heater couldn't be fixed. So we just had to settle for the quote that we got. A contractor came out and changed a garbage disposal for me. Recently, I called American Home Shield for my AC unit that went out. After a few days, Crispy Air came out. The repairman was up there on the roof a few minutes. Then he came down and told me that I had a blown condenser, that he would have to check with American Home Shield and that I would be responsible for almost $2,000 for a condenser and 8 pounds of R-22 Freon. Every time they came, they charged me 8 pounds. But I was told it was only 6 pounds.
My unit was from 1983. I had replaced some part on it in 2019 and the AC twice a few years before. I have been paying American Home Shield for 29 years and I thought for sure they would replace my unit, but they would not. They just nickel-and-dime things and keep repairing. I called and ran to all kinds of places, but I couldn't find a condenser for less than $1,000. They're only paying me $455, which I still have yet to receive a check and I've been waiting since June.
I found another company and now have a new unit up there, which I ended up having to put on my credit card. I’m disappointed and I don't even know if I'm gonna keep American Home Shield. They're not honest. Every time I see their advertisement, they say if they can’t fix it, they'll replace it. They always manage to fix it, like my 1983 unit. That's ridiculous. It is banned in the United States of America, but it's okay to keep putting in R-22 Freon and losing it in the air. I cannot go buy an R-22 Freon. It's against the law. But a licensed electrical person still has access to it.

My son bought a house and he had a 40-year-old furnace in it. It came with the American Home Shield warranty and about a week after he bought the house, the furnace stopped working. They bought him a new furnace and that was the kind of warranty that I wanted to have. So, I bought one immediately after that. So far, I've mostly good experiences with AHS. I recently had a big claim for my refrigerator because the compressor went on it. The refrigerator has been working perfectly since the repair but it took a month for the parts to come in. When you don't have a refrigerator, that's a long time. But it was not American Home Shield's fault. The repair guy told me that a lot of these compressors are going and they were on backorder. He also told me it was going to be a while and they had a hard time getting the parts in.
Also, AHS should improve their customer service on the phone because it's really hard to get ahold of anybody and to get a person on the line that speaks English is almost impossible. I'm very frustrated with all of that because I really like to call and talk to a person. And I hate the fact that you can't do that with them. There's no number to call and talk. And if you do try to call, it goes to a different country and that person barely speaks English. And I've had them where they're rude to you. When you can call back and you get the same person, it's still in another country. When you ask for a supervisor, they tell you that they are the supervisor. And you ask to speak to somebody that can speak English and they tell you that they are speaking English when they're really not.
Other than that, the contractors have been great and I've not had one contractor that I didn't like. They're usually local people and they're nice. I had one bad experience with them when the techs kept coming out for my dishwasher and they weren't really fixing it. That was really frustrating for me. But AHS finally replaced it because if the techs come out three times and something is still not fixed, then they replace it. AHS has been great and I would recommend them to anybody because they take care of you. So far, I've had electrical and plumbing work done, then they replaced my washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave and refrigerator. I've really had good luck with them and every year, the cost of whatever I had fixed or replaced was always more than what I paid in that year.

The techs that AHS send out are good but I have another warranty in Mesa and the first experience I had there was not good. The first guy who came out didn't know what he was doing and when he got there, he was talking to his girlfriend on the phone. He was bitchy and wasn't professional. Also, he kept saying that he was on his way and he got there late. Then, he didn't fix anything so we wasted my time. I had to come back when the second guy came out and he fixed the issue quickly. He knew what he was doing. AHS should make sure that they get good people and that if I call for AC, the service should be on the same day, not three days. Aside from that, they're bringing up their prices and I'm thinking of changing to somewhere else. They have to take care of their old customers.

I bought a house years ago and it came with a home warranty through AHS. When I bought another house, I decided to go back to them. They gave me a price for two years and then after that, it went up. I normally call them if I have a claim and their customer service is very good. My most recent claim was for my oven and it's been ongoing for about three months now. They kept ordering a part and it wasn't the right part. The tech called me yesterday and said he has the right part. He's gonna come out tomorrow and finish up the job.

My most recent experience with American Home Shield wasn't that great. My husband woke up one morning, and we had a massive leak in my bathroom. There was water all over my bathroom floor to where his socks were completely soaked when he walked into our bathroom. We called it in to American Home Shield and it was a whole day ordeal to get somebody to come out here on an emergency work order to prevent my floor from being damaged.
When the worker came out here, he was rude. He told us that we were lying, that there was no leak. He changed the ring then left. He could have been more polite. I wouldn't pay $100 and waste a whole day trying to get somebody to come out for nothing. My neighbor fixed the issue for us. He put a new line on it. Other than that, we've always had great service with American Home Shield. We've had good contractors other than that. However, I've been with them for seven years and the price has gone up quite a bit. When I started, it was about 500. Now, it's almost 1,213.

I had some plumbing concerns and submitting the claim was fine. It was relatively straightforward and easy. I did it over the phone with the automated system. But it was not a positive experience with the contractor. They came out, walked around the house, and told me I didn't have a clean outlet for him to be able to clear the blockage without having to pull the toilet. It was gonna be an additional cost of $475. I informed him I do have a plain outlet drain but he couldn't find it and there was nothing else he could do unless I paid $475. He wrote it up that I needed a clean outlet and it was gonna cost $1,800. I had to dispute that with American Home Shield. I got it fixed eventually but not through them. I called my own plumber to come out and find the clean outlet. They found it in less than five minutes and cleared the stoppage.
The experience having this home warranty is very touch and go. If it's something simple that's not costly to repair, it's a pretty straightforward process and there's no problem. I had an issue with my doorbell and they had someone come out and replaced it. It wasn't a problem. But when it comes to issues such as plumbing and things along those lines, it's a lot more difficult to get a good contractor to do the work or for American Home Show to even approve. You would think it's in the contract, but the contract is very vague. They find a lot of loopholes to not have to cover what you would logically expect to be covered.

I've been with American Home Shield long enough for my fee to triple. It would go up every year. But the coverage doesn't change. Just the monthly fee. Shop around. Read their contract closely. Also, there were times when AHS didn't want to respond. They don't like to replace things. They want to fix things. Sometimes, that's not the best choice. Not that I expect to have a brand new everything, but when something needs to be replaced, it needs to be replaced. Even the repairman would tell me they don't like to replace things. So, they would stick it back together as long as they could say it's working and I may have to turn around and call them again to come out, because now it would truly ready to be replaced. But I was impressed this time. The serviceman that came was top-notch. He was very polite. He knew exactly what he was doing. And it was very fast turnaround service. The best that we've had.

My experience has not been wonderful, but not overly terrible. What I don't like is the not being able to get answers about the status. And if American Home Shield needed to replace something, the equivalent is not equal. But in general, they're responsive when it comes to putting in a request for service and dispatching a vendor. It's just that my experience so far has been lengthy. And having to speak to a manager versus being able to get decent information from the that first line of call center agent.
The most recent was my refrigerator. AHS said they could not replace the ice maker, so they paid me to replace the refrigerator, which I did. But the ice maker went out again. I called Sears since it's a Kenmore. And they still have not replaced the ice maker. AHS said they couldn't get the parts, so when it went out again, I called Sears. It was outside of their thing. But they continued my plan in June. I had a repair for my washer. It made this weird noise, and that was in April of last year. AHS was quick with the repair and I haven't had any problems since.

We had the AC replaced last year and the company that installed it also installed a thermostat. Then, we had a program here in the local area where they gave a free smart thermostat so we installed that. We had that installed by an electrician that was provided by the power company. During that time, we didn't need to use the AC yet so for a couple of weeks, everything was just fine. But when we turned the AC on, we realized that it would only blow warm air, which certainly is not great for an AC unit.
We opened the claim with American Home Shield to see what was going on and they sent Experts Heating & Cooling. The way that they communicated was straightforward and they gave us an explanation of what the problem was. The thermostat, during a power outage, reset itself and because of that, there's a key setting to set it to heat pump or regular. Our AC is a heat pump AC but the thermostat switched back to regular, which then caused the air conditioning unit to reverse from what it was supposed to do. The unit completely overheated and this big fan that is in the AC unit outside kind of got stuck because of that.
The AC company decided that it was not fixable, that the fan was so stuck that the compressor was broken, and it needed to be replaced. That would be a $2,000 charge for us because that would not be covered by the home insurance company and we were not too thrilled with that since we knew the unit was not that old yet.
We decided to reach out to the company that did install the unit in the first place and they came out and checked everything themselves. They determined that even the AC company didn't wire it correctly for the right settings. The company that we originally worked with was able to get the AC unit to work again. They said that because of the way that this problem occurred, it certainly would take a toll on the lifespan of the AC unit but they were able to get it back in working shape without replacing a $2,000 compressor. After we learned that the unit was still fixable, I got the feeling that they didn't put a lot of effort into trying to fix the AC unit. But I felt as if they tried to upsell me to use their services to make some more money on the side versus what they get from the home warranty company.
Overall, we have been very satisfied with American Home Shield. This was not the first claim we opened and the other claims were dealt with much better. Their portal to open claims and keep track of them was much more basic, the pricing structure and the deductible is something I prefer over other warranty companies I worked with before, and the time to respond to a claim I open is also pretty fast. If you own a home that's a little older, a home warranty company like American Home Shield is a great way to take care of unexpected issues. We felt that we saved money with them based on the number of jobs and the scope of the things they had to cover.

My dishwasher claim started out that American Home Shield would replace just a harness and it would last for a little over 30 days. The company that I had that came to do it wouldn't honor it. So, I would have to pay another $100 to have somebody come out, replace the harness again. I ended up with Sears. They got all confused. They figured out that replacing the harness and parts wouldn't work. They finally convinced AHS that the machine wouldn't read the newer replacement parts. So, they had to replace the entire dishwasher. It was six visits.
They introduced a new system themselves. The person that would come to do the work was great, and would apologize profoundly. But they couldn't figure out. They would ship the parts, and there was no address on it. The parts were supposed to go to a drop box. They put half my address on it. So, it would be returned. That happened three times.
I had a problem with one call-in, because I had all five parts, and I knew I could look at the screen and see that they were doing duplicate orders for these parts. The girl on the phone said, “They say that you need 10 parts and you don't have them all.” I said, “I only needed five. The man told me he was ordering five parts.” And she just thoroughly insisted that I had to wait until all 10 parts came. Sears finally got ahold of me and asked, “Do you have the parts?” I said, “Yes, I do.” The dishwasher now works fine.

I had an ice maker go out over a year ago in my refrigerator. I can't tell how many different people American Home Shield sent out. Dave Taylor was the second to the last one, and they came a few times. They came out, the fridge would work for one load of ice, and stop. It was the same thing with everybody. But initially, when it went out, Dave Taylor came on July 19th, a year ago, to service it. It was always the same thing. Whoever came, AHS provided them with the parts and they replaced the ice maker. They would come out, work on it. The last time they came out, the rep said, "I think AHS should replace the ice maker. There's something wrong with it, if it doesn't work like that, electronically or something." I didn't hear from AHS. I kept calling them.
I got a call from some woman. She said, "We have this thing called Luxury Appliance. The guy who works in California and Nevada, we can send them out. Name's Vladimir." He came out and said, "You either need a control panel or a new ice maker." When he came back from Mexico, he called and said, "I've got the part. They authorized an ice maker." He came over to install the ice maker. When he took the old one out, he said, "The other one was not a factory ice maker. That's why it didn't work." And I Dave thought the same thing. It took a year to get it fixed.
I blame AHS, wasting a lot of time. The different people they sent out, AHS said, "They're ordering the parts." I asked them, "How can you order the parts when you don't know what the problem is?" I read online that they have some weird way. Because the first couple of years I had them, they were okay. I didn't renew this year because it was such a nightmare. It's not worth my time to go through a different provider each time. It didn't make sense. I've told them that a couple of times. But I would get a lot of people there. They would say, "We don't know anything." It's too bad. I would go without a warranty for now.

He had come and did work on my refrigerator and my washer prior. I have to purchase a new one because the guy said between purchasing a new one and having this one repaired, he insinuated that the best thing to do is to buy a new one. I also had some plumbing issues that was never corrected because they said it was not within their by-laws.
The price started out at about 60 bucks and the last time they charged me was like 110. Every time I turned around, it was going up and I went ahead and played along with it thinking that if something happens, they would correct it. But AHS reneged on their deal. I was with them for almost 10 years and it didn't bother them to take my money every month. But when I came back to collect on something, they kind of said, "Oh, no, no. You got it wrong."

I wasn't happy with American Home Shield on this last go around. They contracted with Sears to come out to help me. Sears came out but didn't fix the issue. There were several re-attempts for them to come back out but they did not show up. They have a huge window of you needing to stay home from 8 to 5 o'clock waiting for them to show up. After two times of them missing their appointment, that becomes even more disgusting.
American Home Shield has foreigners answering the phone calls who their best to try to help you, but they can't. I was asking for a supervisor but was getting pushed back. I spent hours fussing with them trying to get somebody to help me. I finally got them to send me a lady who could help, but she decided to cancel the appointment with Sears for the next day, so I had to wait two weeks longer. I was able to text a video of the problem with my refrigerator, and they said they gotta order a part. I spent about 2.5 months without a refrigerator that worked. The new agency that came out fixed it but it was an act of congress to get American Home Shield to switch me to a new agency. I was told many times they couldn't switch providers. Also they just went up on me with their price, and I'm not happy about that either.

I've had this coverage even before I relocated from New Jersey to South Carolina. I've been in South Carolina almost 18 years. American Home Shield always worked for me. Even when I moved here, they covered the pool. I didn't even realize they covered some pipes as far as plumbing. That helped me a lot because I was ready to call a plumber and spend a lot of money. I like it. I hear other people complaining about certain amount of money they don't cover. I didn't care for how it would go up and up. And the contractors are not worth much to me. So, my thing is, if they increase my price, why don't I get better quality contractors? The contractors are not up to par like I've experienced in the past.
I have two friends who got rid of AHS because one got dissatisfied dealing with them on replacing her stove. I explained to her that my experience has been good. And the amount of money I have to come out with in terms of the difference in what you AHS covers and what me as a consumer had to pay it, it still saved me a lot of money compared to me not having the warranty program at all. My pool is covered and the wear and tear of the motor. The pump was replaced and I didn't have to come out of my pocket. My dishwasher, same thing. They gave me an equivalent. I had to put a couple of dollars to it, and I was able to upgrade to the stainless steel.
The contractor himself was fine. It's just the way it's all set up through AHS. I have to wait. The day they were supposed to come, they gave me a window. I waited and waited. Nobody called me, said nothing. No common courtesy call. I called back. I couldn't get them. I remember getting pissed off. I cancelled an appointment for it because I needed my clothes dry at work. I waited all day but no one called me to say they would come tomorrow or the next day. So, I don't like dealing with them. They finally came out, and it was the same issue with my clothes dryer. There was some piece of component that doesn't dry it, and they had to replace it. It has been replaced a lot of times through the years. It's working now. Something about the piece blew out.

Last year, I had a big problem with my air conditioner, and it was caused by lightning. The fan motor went bad in the air conditioner unit. It cost about $2,000 and Home Shield didn't pay for it because they said it was an act of God. That was my disappointment right then 'cause we didn't have that money. This year, I went in to American Home Shield and told them my air conditioner was not cooling like it was supposed to. It was easy. They told me who was gonna be coming and when they were gonna come. When the repair person came out, he was on the ball, doing the job he was supposed to do, and he was very personable. He came out and looked at the problem, then he was back to the front door within 10 minutes max and said what the problem was.
The issue was due to a relay that told the heat strip to cut off when the air conditioner was on. While the air conditioner was on, the heat strip was coming on for the central heat too. That's why it was never cooling. So it saved us a lot of money. I highly recommend American Home Shield, and I have recommended them to several people, namely my daughter. However, her husband's an electrical engineer, so he doesn't think he needs anybody.

I used to have the electricity coverage in the last few years, and that wasn't good. For example, I had a problem with my tablet/PC, and then I asked Allstate, but they denied that. I was so regretful of that. Besides that, most cases of my claims through American Home Shield were good, including when I asked them to fix my fridge. Their price recently increased a bit, over 10%, but it's good as well.

I would not recommend Speedy Air and Heat. They told me they were gonna order a different part for the icemaker. Then they turned around, ended the claim with American Home Shield and told them it was finished. I was waiting for the part for about a month. When I contacted them again, that was when they told me the claim was closed.
I called American Home Shield and they sent out a different company who solved the problem. I was out of town when they were gonna come in, so my neighbor handled it. They told me that they would coordinate with the neighbor, which they did beautifully. They wanted the refrigerator turned off for at least 24 hours before they installed the part that they were installing. It worked out really well with the second company and I was very happy with American Home Shield. This was the second thing that they came out for and I was very pleased with both products in the end. The price is very reasonable. I pay monthly but it's a low cost, and it covers all my appliances which is wonderful because if all of them went out at once, I would be in trouble. As it turns out, paying American Home Shield makes it possible for me to keep them up.

I don't like the fact that American Home Shield argues a lot with you when you call to make a claim. Recently, I made a claim for the air conditioning unit. A guy came out but didn't fix it. I called back and they told me I was gonna have to pay again to have someone come out and look at it even though the person they sent didn't fix it because they said it only lasts for 30 days. I told them it was never fixed but they didn't wanna hear about that. We had to pay to have someone else come out to try and fix it. Another thing that irritates me is they just read their script over and over. I wouldn't have a home warranty if I needed to go through different contractors every time a repairperson wouldn't fix it. I would just go to the Yellow Pages and do it myself.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield to fix a burner on a stovetop. A contractor came, assessed the burner, and told me it would take a week or two for the part to come in. I had to call them to keep checking to see if it came in and they realized it was there. It came in a little bit earlier than expected and they were able to schedule me quickly once they knew the product was in their possession. It was the same person that installed it and fixed it, and he was nice. However, I'm not too sure if I will keep American Home Shield next year because the copay for the appointments is a bit high. A case in point is the stovetop burner. We paid 100 bucks and the part was 20 bucks. I like it and as a female, I'm not gonna be the one to take apart a stove or a washer. But pricewise, paying the $600 for a year then $100 each copay on top of that is high.

The last big claim was a refrigerator and he fixed everything right. We've been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and we've been pretty pleased with them too. The price has gone up pretty good in the last several years but they still fix everything they say they're going to.

For the most part, American Home Shield has been all right. When they send somebody out, they usually do what needs to be done. I've only had one issue and it wasn't major and they ended up fixing it anyway. Other than that, it's been good. When our garbage disposal was making weird noises and wasn't working properly, American Home Shield assigned On It Plumbing. They knew what they were doing and was in and out and didn't bother us too much. They said they had to replace our unit with a new garbage disposal, and it seems to be working fine, so far.

We bought American Home Shield when we purchased the house. We've been in the house for seven years going on eight and we've maintained it ever since. It's peace of mind. There are things that aren't covered by regular insurance and American Home Shield allows us to budget an expense on a month-to-month basis. If something big comes up, we know that the majority of that expense has already been taken care of. They've also got good contractors that they work with and reasonable rate.
Whenever I file a claim with American Home Shield, I hear back by the end of day via text that it's been assigned and we should hear back from the vendor that's taking care of the service within 24 hours after that point. We have had service to plumbing, heating, ventilation, appliances, and every one of them has been very professional, kept the area clean, and honest. They've been very open and advising if a repair made sense and how long the repair would last. When we had our refrigerator replaced, the repairman said, "I can repair this, but it's only a fifty-fifty shot that it will solve the problem." We talked more about it and it made more sense for us to replace the unit versus the odds of having a repair not working and the expense of the repair and all the food that we had to throw out. Recently, we had a clog that was deep that was creating a backup of water whenever the dishwasher ran. The plumber snaked through and corrected the issue.

I would recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner. I am such a big fan of their product offering, and I tell all of my friends to use them. They have saved me about $40,000 over 20 years, and my interactions with the contractors have been excellent. My most recent situation was I needed an air conditioner compressor. The repair person who came told me that the last unit that was installed was too small and that's why it broke. He was able to get me the right sized compressor which cools my entire house. It was a beautiful thing. American Home Shield has replaced washing machines, dryers, air conditioner compressors, an air handler, a furnace, and a refrigerator for me. I only need one of those things to cover me for the year. Compressors cost around $5,000 to $7,000.

My experience with American Home Shield is good. I even tell the tech where the key is and I don't even have to be at home. That was how trusted he was. He would say he was there and I’d see him working. I have cameras and he's gone in 30 minutes and he's good. On the last claim I had with the air conditioner, it was hot again and I spent $400 on fans just to sleep. This is the third time and it was the capacitor. The tech took care of it and was gone. But before that, it went bad again a little over a month and that left a sour taste in my mouth. Every time, I have to put out $100 plus $89 a month. Everyone has a time limit on a 30-day thing but if after 36 days it's broken and I have to find $100, which we all don't have, it's hard. While working on it, they should know that part is going bad in 30 days.

My last claim was good. It was worth it, and I’d be needing the service again for another issue. However, I have to find out if Home Shield covers another thing that's not broken. It's more of a service request and I don’t know how that works. Other than that, Home Shield is great, and their claims submission process is okay, but I wish they did a better background check on the services they sent out. I wasn't happy with one particular service, and the second time I had somebody come out, I asked them not to send this other company out because the person was really rude. The person came out and looked at the ice maker, and he knew what to do right away. However, there was a situation wherein his attitude was really nasty.
Home Shield sent the same guy out when my electric cooktop wasn't cooperating right. He looked at it and didn't find a problem other than something that was our own fault. When I took the knobs off to clean the stove really well, I put two of them in the wrong place. They're sensitive. The different knobs on the stove cooktop work different ways, meaning there's a center, middle, and outside ring to the same burner. So it was comical that that was as simple as it was, but this guy was made us feel so stupid. We just laughed it off, but I said, “You know what? I don't want this guy back in my house.” I'm extremely handy and I could have ordered the parts and fixed it myself, but I got Home Shield for when we, as homeowners, didn't have a clue to what we were doing.

Other than that, every other time that I've reached out, I haven't had any issues. Recently, Ryco Electric came out and they were awesome. I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. I've had the policy for a while, and I have three properties with them. The last claim I had was challenging to the degree that the contractor they picked had some issues. The plumbing company, KNS Plumbing, had to send people out several times to get the problem resolved. People pass the buck sometimes, but once I got to the right person, they sent a supervisor out to fix the problem. It was a line leaking inside of the slab, so it was a serious problem. The guy couldn't seem to find the technician, so he sent a supervisor out and he fixed it. At the end, they made it right. It just took a little while to get there.
Another thing is that like any of the companies that do that type of work, American Home Shield can be more up front on what is and isn't covered. 'cause people find out that a lot of things aren't covered when they need it. Like with the plumbing problem, I still paid a lot of money out of pocket. They only covered up to a certain degree. When I figured that out, it was too late.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a garage door repair. And when the garage guy came, it turned out that whatever the issue was was not covered under the insurance. They said it wasn't covered because of the part. I had to pay the guy that AHS sent out here separately to get it fixed. It broke down after the guy touched it. I don't know if he did it on purpose, and you can tell he was not an honest person.
Garage doors have wheels on the edges, and that's what helps the garage door go up and down. There were a couple of things that we called them for. One, because the garage door opener sometimes wasn't working. And then the other thing was it was creating a lot of noise. And the guy said he couldn't see why the garage door wasn't opening because when he was there, it was working fine. So, he wasn't able to catch any of that. I told him, “Okay. Well, can you at least fix the noise?” He said the noise was not included in our contract, so he would have to charge me separately, which I said, “It's fine.”
What he said was that he recommended I buy a brand-new door. He gave me a price for close to $3,000 to buy a brand-new door, when I really didn't need a brand-new door. All he needed to do was replace those. When he was replacing them, I don't know if he did something to my spring because the following week after he left, the springs broke and the door fell down. And then a tool fell down from the top of the roll-up door. I never had any tool on top of it. So, I don't know if he did that or if the tool was there before I bought the house, but I've been in the house for 10 years and I've never seen it.
And even though the door fell down, the spring of the door broke in half. So, I don't know if he tied it down. You're supposed to have both sides even. I don't know if he changed something there. I'm not blaming him. I just wasn't happy because he was trying to sell me a door that I completely didn't need. And then after that happened, I called another door garage company and they came and fixed my spring. They said, “Hey, your door is perfectly fine. You don't need to replace it or anything.” They charged me $300 to fix the spring and made sure there was no noise and everything was great, when the other guy was trying to charge me close to $3,000.
I just canceled my membership with American Home Shield and moved forward. I called multiple times and every time I called for any service, be it the door, the garage door, the water heater, et cetera, I had to pay out of pocket. Every time, there was something that was not included. Every time, I had to pay an extra 300 bucks or $400 for them to fix something because, supposedly, it's not included in my contract. So, I just canceled it because then what was the point of having the insurance? You have to pay out of pocket every time, on top of paying the $100 deductible that I had to pay every time. They never fixed any of the stuff that I called about. Every time, I had to pay out of pocket, so I'm not even sure if the insurance is worth it. I understand they cover certain stuff and some don't. The response was fairly quick though.

I like the fact that I can call Home Shield and just pay a deductible and they fix my appliances. Also, the techs have been fine. They just have to get everything approved by the warranty company, so it always takes forever to get anything done. Every repair takes at least two trips for the technician. They gotta come and see it, get it approved, and then they come back and actually do the repair. If there's anything critical, then I end up waiting for a long time to get something done, like the hot water heater. All Brands Appliance came out for that but they didn't do anything and I had to figure out another way to get it fixed. Home Shield paid partially. That whole process took several weeks.

The refrigerator hinge was bent from the weight of the door. I submitted a claim with AHS and the tech was great. He bent it back and it's been great since then. Until it probably weighs down again. When you put so much in your door, the weight pulls it down. And it's a French door. So, you take some of the weight out and it won't do the same thing. So far, AHS has been pretty quick with getting somebody out here. Some years ago, I had AC problems and they took five days to get out here. And with our weather, that's a long time when you're in almost 100 degrees outside waiting five days without air conditioning. But other than that, AHS has been good to have. My home owner's insurance has a $1,000 deductible and if I can avoid it, I will. And with AHS, if something goes wrong, they'll pay for it.

Nobody was giving us any answers. We had to go through two different contractors, and they would not answer our calls or they kept procrastinating on coming out to the home. It was terrible.

The vent hood needed a replacement because it wasn't pulling. It was making noise and had a burning smell. I got on my phone and filed a claim with American Home Shield. The repairman they sent out had a hard time getting it up up there but did what he needed to do. He took the box and replaced the fan. The only thing that worried me was when he installed it, he was having a rough time with the vibration of it. He needed somebody to help him hold it up. It's a little louder than I think it should operate but it's doing the job. The fan comes on.
Having American Home Shield, I like that I don't have to figure out who to call. However, they could improve by using local vendors to get things done. If I knew some local, good companies for plumbing and air conditioning, I would just put my money in a savings account and use it. Everybody they send is always from out of town and you gotta sit at home all day waiting on them instead of them calling when they're 30 minutes out. That'll give you time to get home. They're not consistent too. American Home Shield should have companies that they use for a particular area. I'm in Albany, Georgia. I shouldn't have an air conditioning company this month that's different from the one next month. I understand they try to use whoever is available but they could use a little bit more consistency.
American Home Shield also needs to trust their customers. Not everybody's out to get them. I almost walked away from American Home Shield when I had my air conditioning unit replaced because they did not listen to me. I told them that I had a concrete pad down. This company that they were using who were ripping them off made it like I had to have this rubber thing so they put this rubber thing down. But when they put the unit down, it was too big. They needed to build a bigger dog house to go over the unit because the one that they had ordered to go with the unit wouldn't fit because they didn't listen to me. They didn't need that additional thick pad that they put on top of my concrete pad. Then they left the thing from up under my house and put a hole in my wall but American Home Shield didn't make them pay for it. It was awful.

The claim is submitted online, then American Home Shield assigns the contractor, then the contractor will call. From my experience, it can take from one to four weeks to get a contractor to call. They then come and tell what the issue is, and in most cases, I will be paying for the contractor to show up whether or not it is covered. That was not what I was expecting from American Home Shield. Warning AHS customers. Don’t let this company lull you into a false sense of security with thinking you will be covered in the event of a major repair expense. Look at BBB reviews. I lost count but close to 125 negative and only 4 positive reviews for July 2024. Here’s my most recent attempt at a claim. They made me tell them what my specific plumbing problem was before they would approve sending out a technician. I was given several options to choose from. How do I know whether it’s a stoppage, mainline blockage, valve or something else. There’s a limited number of options to choose from so I called for assistance 3 times and was unable to get a service request for a plumber to determine the problem. So I chose stoppage for a toilet, shower & sink & also main line.
The technician couldn’t find the main clean-out valve so the claim was denied costing me 100.00 for nothing. Ok that was written in the policy. I called a plumber at my expense. He found the clean-out valve, but still couldn’t clear the blockage. My pipes are leaking under the house & need to be replaced. I called AHS. They wouldn’t let me get a second opinion because leakage wasn’t on the original request. Remember I had to determine the problem yet I didn’t think to crawl under my house. I had to put in a new request & pay another $100. I added leakage. AHS’s outgoing automated message now says my claim has “partial approval, contact contractor for non-covered costs”.
I asked a representative how much was covered. She said it was fully denied. I asked to speak with a supervisor. When I asked the supervisor to look into the discrepancy she said “no it was denied” and I was disconnected. I have a recording of the outgoing message saying it was partially approved if AHS wants to reply to this. After 10 days without toilets or showers I paid $800.00 to have my lines cleaned with a hydro jet. I have a bid from a major plumbing company for $17,886.00 to replace all my pipes under the house. I’ve had 2 more local companies come out and say only a section of my pipes need replacement. I’m waiting on their bids. But as a single woman I got AHS so I could feel safe that I wasn’t being taken advantage of by contractors. It hasn’t helped.
I’ve been paying them for 33 yrs on my duplex and 14 yrs on my house. I do not see any value in keeping these policies. Years ago it was a much better company who sent the technician out to determine the problem and then decided if it was covered. Making the homeowner determine the problem is outrageously ridiculous. 1 star because there’s no option for negative numbers.

Fraud! All they are doing is collection people's monthly payment, if you have anything that needs service they charge you another $125 for someone to come out, then deny you any warranty claim. They only have to warranty reasons, manufacturer warranty and pre-existing issue, they will deny you for one or the other. Also to add, if your realtor tells you to buy a home warranty, fire them too! These home warranties give kickbacks to broker firms, so they are just as fraudulent. Sorry people, the world is just a big scam, most rich people are rich because they scam more people out of their hard earned money.

I had On It Plumbing out here a couple of times. I had an issue with my water heater, and then I had a water leak that they repaired. The techs I've had have been great. The problem I have is, unfortunately, with American Home Shield. I will probably not be renewing my contract with them. I called them to submit my claims and the process was not easy. Then, they didn't pay for anything and they charged me $125 for them to call On It Plumbing to come out here. Then they have not paid anything on any of my claims.
I took out American Home Shield with the understanding that the problems that I had would be at least somewhat paid for, and nothing. I had to have the condenser and something else in my HVAC system replaced. They claimed that was normal wear and tear. That's the whole reason I have an insurance company. I am not happy. I have voiced that with friends of mine who asked me, “Hey, how do you think?” I said, “Find somebody else. Don't go to American Home Shield.”
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I'd like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Please know that our team will be using your feedback to prevent this from happening again in the future.

When the washer was not cycling, I went online and it gave me options on what to choose. I chose what was going on with the washer then submitted the claim. American Home Shield immediately takes the $100 from your account then you get a text telling you that a person's been assigned. The repair person called me the next day to set the appointment up. He's really good. He's been out here several times for different stuff. He's fixed several of our appliances.
I was a little upset though, not at him. When he came out, the washer was working fine but American Home Shield still made me pay. They provide a lot of coverage, but the fees are a little high. But I've had other warranty companies and American Home Shield seems to be a little bit better. They help me a little more than some of the other ones I've had. I have recommended them. They send out good technicians and if you have an issue with them, you can call them back, work up their chain of command and they'll work with you.

I've had American Home Shield for more than a year this time. The first time I had it, I had it for three years. Both times, American Home Shield has always been good. They give me peace of mind. They give me information to tell me what they can and can't do. Their contractors always come and do what they need to do. Two of my sister-in-laws have American Home Shield as well and they swear by it. When I had an AC problem years ago, a repairman came but didn't do good. I had to call somebody and told American Home Shield not to send him back out. They sent somebody the next day who performed wonderfully. My AC right now is working perfectly. Recently, the pipe under the bathtub had a leak and it was leaking in my house. A plumber was out the same day, and she was personable and efficient. To fix it, she cut the pipe out and put a new one in. She was wonderful.

1st Choice Appliance was nice but the problem is still a little bit there. The washing machine is not 100% fixed. The tech came in and fixed it and it cleans the clothes but it's still noisy. They have to send somebody a second time. The tech looked and said there's a motor problem and it's not their fault. He said they would try to get approval again from the company and they will let us know. But it's been a week.
Most of the time, American Home Shield is good. Starting with the claims, it’s quick and easy. It's good. But they don't have enough contractors because it looks like they're in a hurry. If they take time a little bit when they come to fix the problem, then they could analyze maybe better. And they should take an interest in the problem-solving. But it looks like they are too much dependent on getting approval. I don't know why they have to depend much if AHS authorizes them to fix something. And then they come in and say they have to still get more approval. So, that’s a little confusing. They don't look like they are very in control or independent.

When my air conditioner went out, I had private people look at it and they said it was gone. I needed a new air conditioner. American Home Shield sent someone out who sent in the same report. American Home Shield came back telling me that instead of it being replaced, they said they had to do something. They made it sound like it just needed to have a little bit done to it. I got so angry at them because of the way they verbalized it. They were not having to pay to have it replaced. They were having to pay a little bit of it and not enough to replace the whole thing.
At that point, I wanted to get out of the contract but they told me that I could not. If I did, I'd have to pay some amount of what it was owed. The only way I could get out of it was wait till it was time to renew it, which would have been the following March. Very angrily, I stayed with them. I've been them for over 10 years. If I have to put out the money for a new air conditioner, I could have saved it up and done it. For what little bit I had done with them, I had paid for it several times, and they owed me a new replacement for my air conditioner. But they wouldn't do it.
I got someone to come out for a ceiling fan. When I first got into the contract, the lady said, “If you have some problems and you can manage to get by with them, wait till you have several of the same kind to report it because it'll cost less. You could get one visit then.” When I had several of the ceilings fans not working, I went ahead and requested someone to come out. My living room area has a slanted roof that goes up to a partial second floor. It's high and my ceiling fan hangs down from it. The man would not fix it and would not even look at it. He said he could not do it if I did not provide a ladder. I've never heard of any kind of repair person that didn't provide ladders for their work. I had to pay for the visit but he didn’t fix the main ceiling fan. The others were smaller ones in the bedrooms. I called American Home Shield and complained about it but they wouldn't do it. They said, “If you do not give them the ladder, they can't do it.”
I had someone come out for my dryer. It would have to be turned on several times for the clothes to finally dry. I explained this to them on the phone. I said, “I change the filter every time before I put in a load of clothes. It runs fine except it's not drying.” American Home Shield sent someone out here. The man walked in and asked where the dryer was. I showed it to him and it was running at the time. He said, “It runs. I'm sorry, ma'am, I can't do anything. It would have to be something probably in the exhaust of it.” I said, “I change that every single time that I dry clothes.” He said it probably was something up under the house and there was nothing he could do. He was here five minutes and left. American Home Shield charged me for that visit. They would not take it off. I said, “I explained to y'all that it ran and he came in here like he was surprised that it was running.”
Another thing was the shower in my bathroom. It worked fine, but the only way it would work would be if I held the handheld thing. Where I could hang it up was broken. They couldn't fix that because the particular part that was needed on that wasn't covered under my warranty. When my dishwasher went out, I elected to get the money instead of choosing one from them because nothing that they had to choose from was equal to what I had. But I was not getting the money and I was calling them. They said, "This is the date that you said you wanted it." They told me it was 30 to 60 days after that to get it. I’d wait and wait but I still wouldn't get it. I'd call them again and they’d tell me the same thing. I went through this till I finally got my check so that I could get my new dishwasher.
By the time March came, I called ahead of time because I had a date that the policy expired. I talked to somebody and said, “I want you to put this on the record that the date that this expires, I do not want to renew. I don't want to wait after it's expired and y'all tell me it's already started another year, and I can't get out of it.” They sent me through three people and I told every one of them I didn't want to keep the policy any longer. They started telling me why I needed it and I would argue with them. Finally, I demanded to talk to a manager. I talked to a manager and explained all of this to her and she said she understood what I was saying.
However, when the time came for it to renew, they automatically renewed it after I’d gone through four different people, including a manager, to tell them to write it down to make sure that it did not get renewed. I was on the phone again and all I got, again, were arguments about why I should keep it. Again, they kept sending me over to people till I finally got someone else. There was something where it had to go. It was paid automatically through my American Express card, which is the way that I paid for it when I was with it. They told me that I had to contact American Express to end it which was plain stupid.
I talked to American Express and they said, “No, ma'am. We're not the ones responsible for that. They're the ones who have to tell us so that we take it off of your account.” I went through all of it again with American Home Shield and once more, I had to go through so many people, telling them the same thing. They were refusing to let me cancel. I'm 81 years old and there is a law in Louisiana against things like that with the abuse of the elderly. I had to threaten them with that. Finally, I got my money sent back to American Express.
I tell everyone I talk to not to go with American Home Shield if they expect to get what they're supposed to be getting out of it because American Home Shield will fight them every inch of the way, trying to get out of doing what they're supposed to do. Also, every time I called, I talked to someone that couldn't speak correct English. I couldn't half-understand what they were saying and they couldn't understand what I was trying to explain to them.

We had a problem with the air conditioning at the beginning of the season and we were turning it on for the first time. We called American Home Shield and they scheduled with May Heating. They came out at earliest appointments and we were very pleased. We are nearly 18-year customers with American Home Shield and I would recommend them. As a matter of fact, when we sold our last house, we purchased a warranty for the buyer and he used it within the first year.

Well, it has been 32 days, 5 visits, and 3 motors and my AC still isn't fixed. There's also now a giant 3x3' hole where my ceiling fell in due to the AC drip pan for the upstairs unit overfilling. AHS won't cover that as it is "secondary damage" despite the fact it was caused by the upstairs unit struggling to keep up with no downstairs unit for a month now in 90-degree weather. They also charged me a second service charge to have the tech look at the hole in the ceiling. Then told me it was not covered.
After reporting them to the BBB they decided to refund the charge they conned me into as compensation. All bait and switch and they can translate the contract however they see fit. The technician ordered the wrong motor twice, and the one time he got the right one, he ran the ground wire on top of the unit and screwed it into painted metal so it fried the system. I'm lucky the house didn't catch fire. Meanwhile, AHS has been denying any wrongdoing, claiming the repair is on track to the BBB. Do not trust this company, they will not support you.
Oh, and three different AHS employees told me the hole was covered. Fourth said it wasn't but they would review calls and if I was told it is covered, they would cover it. The escalation person admitted that I was misinformed on all four phone calls and they would not be doing anything for me. Rather, I was informed they would be disciplining the four employees. I wasn't trying to get someone written up. I just want the service I paid for to actually get done.

We bought our house in 2020 in Oceanside 55 and up development. Our agent paid for an AHS policy for a year. We noticed after a short time around our toilet the flooring would discolor from brown to grey. I called AHS and they sent out a plumber and he didn't see a problem. A short time later requested another plumber and he didn't see a problem. The discoloring continued and warranty lapsed. I measured the drain off the wall and it wasn't standard and bought a 10" rough-in toilet and installed it myself and the problem was fixed.

The American Home Shield reps have always been so helpful. They're always been very informative, and do follow-up. Everything is good. American Home Shield is a good company. I'll recommend it. When I sent in a claim for my washer, the contractor that came out had to order parts, and then they thought one part was it and the other part but I told them that my washer still gets stuck on the cycle. So then, the tech said, "Oh, it's your water pump." But they replaced a total of three parts.

However, I needed to take the plumbing out from under the house and put it outside so the city water department would be able to clean out my sewage line when it needed cleaning but the plumber couldn’t do it. For the AC, 1st Choice came out at first but they wanted to charge too much money and wanted to charge American Home Shield. They also wanted to charge me extra after AHS. So, they got this other person from Florence, South Carolina and he did good. I haven't had any problem with my light bills going up high after they came out and fixed the ducts. There was nothing wrong with my air conditioner. I have recommended AHS to several people.

The refrigerator was still making a noise so the techs had to come back out but they fixed it. They told me it was also because of the age of the refrigerator. The second repair was because the capacitor on the AC went out again. It went out twice within a year. The surge of power when it comes through may have fried it. The only thing is having to pay the $100. The contractor got it quickly but I gotta wait a long time for them to come. Other than that, Brown did a good job.

I hate AHS. I had a beverage center/wine cooler that quit cooling. When I made a claim with AHS, they said they didn't do wine coolers. But my beverage center would get down to 31 degrees on one section just like a refrigerator while the other section was warmer for the wine. So I told them that it is half refrigerator, half wine cooler. When we'd have parties, I would put cold food on the shelves of the refrigerator part to help hold the overflow of space that we needed.
I even got the data from KitchenAid showing that one part of it was refrigerated and the other one wasn't. And I compared it to a wine cooler that only gets down to 40 degrees on the cold side. I told them that mine goes down to 32, so it's a refrigerator. But they said they didn't care and they still wouldn't repair it. So, I canceled my policy and I'll never go back with them again. It's a rip-off. I also had to write a $100 check to the tech who came out which was a waste. He just said it was a wine cooler and left. So he didn't even analyze it properly.

The reps at American Home Shield try to be helpful on the phone. However, I've not had very good experiences with the contractors that I've interacted with. Most of the time, I find them subpar, very lazy and difficult to work with. I feel American Home Shield gets some of the worst contractors to work with them and I've thought about canceling because of the people that they hire.
Recently, we had a repairman come out and say, “You need a new dishwasher. This one is not gonna work. I don't know what to do with it. I can just keep throwing parts on it, but it's not gonna work.” I called American Home Shield to let them know what the repairman said, and they said, “We're gonna go ahead and send out a new contractor because this one won't respond to us.” They also wouldn't respond to me whenever I called them. They stopped answering their phone. They were supposed to give a write-up about what was gonna happen, but they never did. American Home Shield had to hire a different company who now is coming out. Our dishwasher has been broken since March. They come out, try to replace the part, it works for a few minutes, then it stops working again. I'm not mad at this contractor because they said that that was all they could do. But the last one never called me back and wouldn't answer the phone.
American Home Shield used to be able to rectify the situation, but lately they just keep sending out the same guy and we keep getting new parts for this dishwasher. It's being rebuilt but it's still not working. It’s extremely frustrating. American Home Shield has waived the service fee but I want a dishwasher that works. They also sent that same contractor out to do our washing machine that failed. They didn't even talk to me about what happened. They just ignored it. Then they didn't completely ever fix it either. American Home Shield has been good in the past but I am not satisfied with this last experience. I don't feel like I'm getting good products or coverage.

Home Shield corporate is okay. But their subsidiaries are not. The companies that they had come out to my house to do repair of work over and over and over again, I don't know who's ordering the equipment or who's doing whatever it is they're supposed to do, but they are not ordered. That's the number one complaint I had. The repairman also said that he used to order all of the items for the piece of equipment he's gonna repair. He would just order it and he replaced them all. But with the current supply chain issues they have, they only send one item at a time. So that they have to troubleshoot one thing, and then go to the next thing, and then go to the next thing. So I still don't have an ice maker.
I've been without my ice maker for about four months now. To compound that, the repairman can't send anything up under the same trouble ticket. It's $100 for the trouble ticket. I paid my 100 bucks. I'm still trying to get feedback from American Home Shield so that I can speak with somebody in management and try to get my $100 back for the second claim I just filed for the same issue that I've already got. The only addition is that we discovered that the lights on the control panel of my fridge are going out. Which in the old days, the repairman would just write that up on the ticket, send it up, and everything would be taken care of. But now, you can't do that. I have to file a whole new complaint on the same item.

For the most part, American Home Shield is a reasonable and decent warranty company. But you have to be prepared to do some extensive follow-up with them. There are a couple of issues where the service to have the repair was a bit delayed even after the payment. The deductible was already paid. And that's one of the things I've expressed to them on multiple occasions, that if they would take that deductible, there should be some enforcement on their side to make sure that the repair would take place.
The contractor came out to service my unit for my outside unit that wasn't functioning properly. They did a diagnostic on it. They gave the feedback to American Home Shield. But AHS did not provide coverage. They stated that there was excessive wear and tear to the unit. So, I spoke with them, and I spoke back with Service Pro how to get clarity on that. But that still didn't help, so we had to come out of pocket for that expense. That was not a favorable experience.

I've changed warranties a few times over the years and American Home Shield finds somebody as soon as possible, although it isn't always possible to do it quickly, but at least they do eventually get it done. I had a dishwasher claim and AHS was prompt and were good at calling me after the request was made. The unit had to eventually be replaced as hard as Ninelives Appliances tried to find parts. Also, the dryer was making noises and they worked on that too.
But when we needed our washing machine replaced, I got the runaround from American Home Shield for like three months. They would say, "It's gonna be delivered this day," and nobody would show up. I'd try to call somebody to find out why and they didn't know because they didn't know who was supposed to be there anyways. I would be on hold with someone for an hour before I was helped and they would give me the wrong information or a wrong phone number to call. I remember one time my granddaughter got on the phone because I was getting so frustrated. She called and she put it on speaker phone so she wouldn't have to hold on and she never got answered in eight hours. She finally had to use her phone, so she cut it off. But that was a terrible experience and I let them know about it, but I never really heard anything back.

American Home Shield was very helpful and intuitive. They were very prompt at getting back to me. We do it online, and everything is technology nowadays, but I get an email back with the name of the company that is supposed to contact me, and the companies usually contact me within 24 to 48 hours. It’s sometimes a little tricky for scheduling purposes. The contractor came in, got right to work, talked me through it and helped me with sealing the cover for the pump to make it a bit tighter so things wouldn't get down inside the pump.
My most recent claim was a bit trickier because it was going into a weekend. I got a call from the contractor. I put the claim in on a Wednesday night. I wasn't able to get somebody out until Monday. So that took a bit longer, but it was an air conditioning, and it's 95 degrees in New Jersey, so they had a lot of demand for air conditioning repairs right now. I recommend getting a home warranty to anyone. It's worth paying the extra couple 100 bucks a month to know that you have the security for when things go wrong. I tell everybody, “I know I have somebody coming out to fix it, and they're guaranteeing that if they can't fix it, they'll replace it. It really does save you in the long run because you're not putting large sums of money out at one time.”

Up to a point, I was very satisfied with American Home Shield. They sent out techs for a couple of things and seemed to fix it right away. We paid a certain amount a month, and paid $90 every time we called and a contractor would come out. No big deal. But a few years ago, the monthly price went up by $30 and the every time a contractor came out went up. A year later, both prices went up. So, we called another company, got a price and it was better. I don't know if they do as good a job or not, but I get offended when AHS raised my rate every year.
AHS sent out a contractor to fix our washer three times. The washer would shake violently. That went on for two days before I called. And when I did a load of laundry, it didn't spin the water out. So, the clothes would be soaking wet before I picked them up and put them in the dryer, which we didn't do. We just went down the street to a laundromat. The contractor ordered parts a couple of times. It took three attempts to get the washer working. One time, they had trouble getting the parts. The next time, the person doing the work said he thought they were used parts because if AHS could get used parts that are still quality, they would use those. But that didn't work, so he had to get another couple of parts. It was inconvenient. But it all worked out.

This is the company I trusted to do my home service should I need it. When I get my claim of down AC submitted, they tried to find every excuse not to pay for my AC or get it repaired. They knew they can't repair or repair will be very costly. After weeks of frustration dealing with the customer service, I went ahead and paid for new AC from my own pocket.
Moreover, this is the company who is charging us monthly fees in Dollars but paying it to overseas call center in pennies. People at overseas customer service spend more time apologizing and trying to pretend that they care but they don't. American Home Shield exporting our American jobs to overseas when it is making money in the US. I understand this is a business strategy but this also shows how selfish they are when it comes to hiring our own US workforce. Majority of the times, overseas CS is not familiar with the high standards and urgency people expect in the time of need when AC or other major appliances fail. Anyhow, I will not recommend this company to waste your money at. Thumbs way down.

One of two AC units stopped working. The company dispatched did not fix the air. Nearly a month later still having the issue. I called and they quickly dispatched the same company to me. However, that company does not have availability for 48 hours. It's the summer time and nearing 115 degrees daily. Downstairs is approx 90 degrees and upstairs is 95+. AHS said unless I pay another dispatch fee of $125 I had to just wait for 48 hours + for this company to come out. Let's not even think about the fact they literally did NOTHING the last time they were here.. So, now we are expected to wait an additional 2 days in hopes that MAYBE they will fix it?
We have high risk animals and individuals in this home. We were told that since there is another unit, we could just sleep downstairs on the ground in the meantime. I asked multiple times for clarification on that as I am blown away at their inconsiderate nature. They are reading from scripts and NOT doing anything to help. They told me in not so many words that they did their part by making note of my concerns and making a work order request.. The rest is not their concern. They don't care that I've already paid monthly fees, dispatch fees, sitting in an extremely hot house in the summer or that BOTH units may burn up because of this failure. If the second unit goes out, it would be a minimum of $6k+ to fix, which they won't cover that. So, again, I would be out money in addition to the potential health risks involved here. There are state laws regarding ACs in homes/apartments for a reason.

Now, if I was rude, yelling, cussing, or being disrespectful, I would have understood, but that was absolutely not the case, in fact, I was in literal tears because hundreds of dollars worth of groceries were spoiling and my toddlers (and my pregnant self) needed to have access to refrigerated food. I was repeatedly not helped and given scripted lines over and over.
If you are a realtor DO NOT include this warranty in your contract. If you are a home owner or buyer PLEASE DO NOT use this company. They have been unhelpful and downright rude at this point. Find a warranty company that at least has the humanity to care about their customers. I will finish with this: This is BY FAR the WORST company I have ever worked with and I decided to sit down to write this review to hopefully spare others from the frustration of this company and their LACK of service.

I file claims by phone and go through the automated system. Most recently, I had a pool pump claim and AHS scheduled ABNation to come out immediately. It took three days for ABNation to really contact and get with us because it goes through their corporate office in Florida. But I'm happy that, when they came out, they actually fixed it. The tech emailed me and told me the time and the day that he would be out. He arrived within that time frame, parked his vehicle, came, said hello, came up, went around to the pump, looked at my pool pump, and fixed it. There's a basket in the pump and that basket got sucked down into the pump to where you couldn't pull it out with your hand. It didn't let the water filter through and come back into the pool for whatever reason why that sucked down.
He took the pump apart and there was some piece that's supposed to be mounted in there and it was disconnected inside the mechanism of the pump. He had to screw that together and undo some bolts in the bottom underneath that basket once he got it out. As soon as he fixed that, water was flowing through those jets through the pump. He said that for 30 days, it's covered under some kind of warranty. He seemed personable and like he knew what he was doing.
On the other hand, the air conditioning claim was a whole other story. The last time I had an air conditioning claim was a nightmare. I asked for a refund because the company that came out couldn't fix it and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. My son and my ex-husband figured out that it was a fuse. I sat here for three weeks waiting for a part and all this stuff with no AC and all it was was a 10-minute fix. That really irritated me. I told them not to send that company back out here because they don't know how to work on the unit.
I think the problem is when I call in to AHS, I get a foreigner and they don't understand what I'm talking about. Also, I couldn't get anybody to get somebody higher up to make them understand what was going on. I did scream at the top of my lungs to get a manager or supervisor. It was a mess and I couldn't get another company to come out. They kept sending me the same company over and over again and that company was like, "You need a Lennox-authorized technician," because they didn't know how to work on the unit. Some of the AC people that came out prior to them won't even touch the unit. I have to call back in, tell AHS what happened, they have to get their money back from the thing, I have to wait for that transaction to get revised, and then try to get another company to come back out.
It's frustrating and difficult. What that supervisor or manager told me last time it happened is to make sure they know that it's a zoned and communicating unit and that I have to have somebody that knows how to work on that type of unit and not just any old air conditioning person. But as far as ABNation and the pool, they're fine. I have no problem with them working on my pump.

I recently canceled my deal with American Home Shield. I went with a different company that I think is gonna be a little bit better for me in the long run. I became concerned about American Home Shield has had a huge amount of complaints over the last year or two, and again, a little worried about it. I didn't feel good with them. But any time I had any repairs done, they were done quickly and done well. Their pricing schedule was reasonable too, but they continually had rate increases. From the time that I started with them till I had canceled with them recently, my monthly premiums just about doubled.

Our pool pump wasn't running correctly and it was barely even going. American Home Shield scheduled us to be with Emerald Pools, and Emerald Pools, no-called-no-showed on me twice. I let American Home Shield know and they said that they contacted Emerald Pools. They said that they attempted to get ahold of me and they blamed American Home Shield for what happened. Their rep said that they tried to set up an appointment with me, but American Home Shield had given them the wrong information and they had no way to get ahold of me.
I told American Home Shield that I was not happy with it because I knew they have my correct phone number and I didn't believe that a wrong phone number was given. Also, when I read the reviews online for Emerald Pools just off of Google, they have horrible reviews and they are all American Home Shield customers that have commented. I told AHS that I didn't want to use that vendor anymore, but apparently, there's nobody in Las Vegas that they could get to come out, which surprises me because Las Vegas is a huge city.
We have a pool guy here who is local and AHS told us to have him come out. So, he came out and gave us a quote on getting the pool pump repaired. Due to the dollar amount, AHS said that they had to get a second opinion on it. But the second opinion was Emerald Pools again and it pretty much was the same thing the second time the Emerald Pools came out. They didn't come out the first time when they were scheduled to come out and didn't show up on time when they were supposed to. I kept texting the lady, asking if they were coming out, and she said that he was caught up on another call. Then they ended up having to reschedule me for another day. The tech finally ended up coming out, but he didn't bring the right parts with him. So, he had to come back out again. Also, every time I would call, nobody would call me back nd they weren't answering the phone.
The pool is fixed now, but it was a hassle working with them and I was not happy with the whole thing. My claim went on for six months and I kept telling American Home Shield that when my pool turns green, they're not going to pay to balance my chemicals and get my pool fixed. They said that was not part of the warranty and I understood that, but that was why I wanted my pool fixed because I'm going to have to cover that cost.
Despite what happened, I'm not totally dissatisfied with AHS. We had to deal with them when the ice unit of our refrigerator wasn't freezing on it. It took quite a few visits for the repair guy to get that fixed but it ended up getting fixed, so it was okay. We also had a water leak out front, which ended up not being anything that was covered through American Home Shield. It ended up being something we had to end up doing through our homeowners’ insurance. But AHS sent out Alpha Plumbing who we've dealt with before and they were fantastic. So, every person we've had to use with the exception of Emerald Pools has been good.

I've had American Home Shield for a while, and I like their website 'cause it lists everything down. Their price is right at 70 as well. It recently went up, but they also started adding a lot of new features, so I gotta look into what those are. Besides that, it's easy to submit claims. I just go online, and in the process of submitting it, it tells me who the person is gonna be and they'll reach out to me and schedule or I can call them. So far, all the people that came out have been nice. My last claim was for a leaking tub and Wade Plumbing changed the fixtures on it.
I like Wade. They've come to my property twice already. The other time was when my toilet was running. My water bill was $1,300 and the water company called and asked me if my water running. When I finally walked around the house, it was one of my toilets. When I did the claim, Wade fixed it. I also had another incident where a guy came out for my refrigerator and he was nice too.

Considering the service and the response, American Home Shield is good. However, I had a few issues they didn't cover much, and I've noticed that they raised prices too high. I'm thinking of canceling right now. My last claim was for my heater, and it never got resolved. It was the same guy that came every time. He changed this, changed that on the unit, and then finally said, "It could be the duct because it's not big enough and that's why it's making it to shut down." I was told it was gonna be 2,000 to repair it, and I figured I can't afford it right now, so I might as well leave it like that now that the summer came. I'll deal with it when winter comes.

I go online and put in a claim, and as far as appliances are concerned, I am pleased with American Home Shield. On the other hand, when my air conditioning unit went out, I had to go outside and pay to have my HVAC unit outside replaced. I was displeased about that. I thought they covered air conditioning units, but when I went back and read the policy, it doesn't cover the ones outside. Still, I would recommend American Home Shield compared to some of the others. I've been in other programs, and I prefer American Home Shield to some of the other ones. The process that I go through is easier, and American Home Shield sticks to their word.

I was with American Home Shield for five years and their prices started going up every single year where it's almost tripled in price. They've always treated me well but the fee started from $69 a month and went up to $130 a month, which was ridiculous. I had a claim when the AC wasn't cooling and when they did get a guy to come look at it, they sent out a guy that didn't know what he was doing. It was just a valve that needed to be flipped over and that guy tried to sell me a completely brand new unit that I did not need. I've been unhappy because I tried to cancel a service well in advance -- a week before it, and I could not cancel it. It was super difficult. I called and they said I have to cancel it with GE. I did and GE still came out and American Home Shield still charged me. It was so much work. I had to call and try to get a refund to explain that it was never serviced. The two companies just don't talk to each other where I'm like it's not even worth my $75 to spend any more time on this. I don't like customer service like that. But I like that I can go online and request service pretty quickly. Usually, they get somebody out here pretty quickly to resolve the issue.
My contract was supposed to renew in June of this year and back in April, I wanted to cancel because of all the bad experience. They said that if I cancel, I was gonna get charged a fee. That fee is about the price of my last month so I said I'll wait but I want them to not renew me and they said they've got it set up. But I ended up getting a charge in June for this renewal, which was my bad. I happened to have something go wrong and I thought I should keep it. But whether I did that or not, when you cancel something and you're told they're doing it, they need to not automatically renew you. I feel like that's the way people try to get money because people don't pay attention to their bills.

I wasn't real impressed with the company that came out for my last claim. I've had issues with that heater and I've had a half a dozen calls and the heating element keeps going out on it. The last guy upgraded the heating element to a more expensive part but it went out again and he was really rude. He said that my heater is too dirty and that's what keeps making the heater go out. But he was really disgusted and really irritated that he was out there doing the job. He was not very professional.
Last year, we had our air conditioner upstairs go out in June or July and they would not respond to us. We kept going back and forth with one of the repair companies and they made calls and they said they were taking care of it. It was a real joke. I kept feeling I was getting the runaround story from American Home Shield. Finally, I called the repair company and American Home Shield in a conference call so both of them would be on. We've been having a horrible experience with AHS lately. We had a claim for our fridge and our washer. AHS contractors came and evaluated a couple of the items and told us that there's nothing they can do. They got paid and I had to hire someone externally who just told me that the fix was really easy and it was less than $60 to fix it.
Also, their contractors told us that our washer needed to be completely replaced when it wasn't an issue of replacement. They told us our fridge radiator was completely burned, when it was a sensor issue. The machine is an outside fridge. And he was just telling us no, the whole fridge needs to be replaced. So I contacted Blaze, which is the maker and the manufacturer of the fridge. And I said, these are the issues. And they just send me a sensor and I changed that myself in minutes.
I'm not sure what type of contractors AHS is getting but they come out here, don't want to do the work, and say that it cannot be fixed. We've been discussing to just interrupt the service because it hasn't been a quality service and it's being more of a headache than something that is helping us reduce the stress of managing our home.

The connections American Home Shield had with companies for household-type problems were resolved quickly, effectively and efficiently. I had a plumbing issue in the house and they sent somebody out on a timely basis. The plumber came in and resolved the issue right away. It was very good experience. I just had some refrigerator issues and this is the only time that I was very disappointed. Living here in the middle of the desert and being without my refrigerator for over a month was bad and not acceptable. It was because of scheduling. I was told that the compressor was coming from outside and then, only specific people are qualified to install the compressor that has new technical things involved.
The only issue that I'm waiting on now is my refrigerator needs a new filter for the ice maker and water dispenser. It came in the mail yesterday and that's gonna be installed today. So I will see if that issue is resolved because at this point, my ice maker is making very little quantity of ice and the water that it's dispensing is very light. I'll wait to see if it was just a matter of having a new water filter that needed to be installed. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. American Home Shield has always contacted me or responded to me on a very timely basis. They offer a 30-day to be satisfied with the overall work to make sure that everything's functioning properly. But my issue lies in the price. Every month, I pay AHS and then, it's an additional $100 to get a technician to come out. I could just as easily contact someone for the appliance I have an issue with and I'm 150 bucks ahead of the game.

The contractor for the dryer was very good. They had trouble when the part that was sent to me was damaged in transit so it took two months to get everything finished because they had to resend the part. But they fixed it and it's been a couple of months. And so far, the dryer is working fine. I had an issue with American Home Shield before that with some electrical work I tried to get done and it was a huge problem. The electricity went out in a part of my house and the person that AHS was going to send was supposed to be an electrician. When he called me, he was someone I know personally through the grapevine. I went to school with him and he is not a certified electrician. He's a con man with several fraud cases against him open in our area. I called AHS back and I spoke to people who were not American and they said all their contractors are electricians and I said this man was not one. They kept saying he was and I said no.
I refused to let the man come out to my house unless he brought someone with him who could show identification and an electrician's license. But he never showed up. I had to cancel the whole claim after several months of going back and forth because I would not allow some random person to work on my electrical. He said he had someone working for him who was an electrician and he was using that man's license but he was coming and doing the work himself. That was a major fraud. I tried to report him to the Texas board but because he didn't do work on my home, I couldn't open a claim with the electrician licensing board because I didn't let him come out. But he has multiple fraud cases open in Arkansas and Texas on him. I asked several times to get someone local or get at least someone American but they just didn't understand what I was saying culturally.

I had American Home Shield once before for a home and I was really thrilled with it. This time, I don't know whether it's because I live in a smaller town, but I don't think the contractors that they've sent have been up to par with what they used to send. I have a hot water heater that's leaking and needs to be replaced but the door is too small to get it out. American Home Shield said I have to get a carpenter and I have to pay for it because that's modification. I paid $225 to get somebody to come in and open that up big enough so that the plumber could fix it. I told the rep last Friday that the carpenter was coming today and I really needed my hot water heater changed out so I wouldn't have to stress about it anymore.
The rep didn't respond to my first message and we called and left a message again. He said it was the weekend now and they got a job on Monday and Tuesday. He said it'll be in the middle of the week before they can get out here. Also, I had a leak and they had the same plumber come out to fix the sprayer hose and the leak on my kitchen faucet. It wasn't a week and a half later, the flimsy part he put on my sprayer hose busted. I bought a new thing and my son and I got it put on myself. It seems like they want to make sure that they use parts and things of the lowest possible quality, which is bad. I've been a little disappointed with that.
Other than that, the contractors have always been pretty good and real personable. We had somebody come out because we couldn't get hot water out of any of the faucets. The tech went into the shower and fixed the regulator. I really appreciated him. I'm starting to reconsider between the cost of having the warranty and then the increase of the copay. But right now, I feel like it's in my best interest to carry on with my warranty service with American Home Shield.

The refrigerator has been performing well since the repair, but I spent 2,400 out of pocket. I have the top tier policy of AHS and I thought I was supposed to be all the way covered. But there are certain things that they don't cover like inspections and ductwork. Also, I always have to call and talk to somebody because trying to do the online thing is not good.

The temperature of my refrigerator went down on it. Then, I had a dishwasher that wasn't cleaning. I submitted my claims with AHS by phone and the process wasn't that bad. Then they sent me an email letting me know when the techs would be here and they were here pretty quickly. The techs said that they had to order some parts and hopefully, they'll come back and do what they say they're going to do. I like having the security that comes with my AHS warranty and I recommended it to a couple of family members.

Our AC wasn't turning on or cooling. I opened the portal and reported the issue to AHS. It was fairly easy to do, then I got the name and phone number of the assigned contractor, Island Breeze HVAC. Once they reached out, I was able to look into it more and I was able to find an address for the place and any information I needed from there. Since the repair, everything has been perfectly fine. I recommended AHS to my best friend who recently bought a house. I told her how much of a lifesaver it is and that it has saved us a few thousand dollars. With AHS, I don't have to stress about repairs and things that could go wrong because it's easier to get things fixed.

AHS does a pretty good job but it's a mixed bag of tricks with them, depending on the appliance involved in a claim. I recently submitted claims for my refrigerator and dishwasher, then someone was out pretty quickly. They got my fridge fixed, but they ordered parts for my dishwasher and my dishwasher still isn't fixed. That was in April then I got a notification that the parts came in over a month ago. But I've not heard anything from the service company.
I also have a problem right with my air conditioning. AHS sent someone out who said he couldn't go in the attic. But that's where my air conditioning is. So I spent $100-something for someone to show up and tell me that. I'm also not too impressed with American Home Shield's reps on the phone because you get people that can't speak English and they just read the same script over and over. With my current claim for the air conditioning system, I'm trying to explain to them that I'm not paying for someone to come out again because the last guy came here and said he can't go in my attic even though that's where my system is. But they're just reading off a prompter and they're aggravating to speak to.

I had one claim with AHS and it was easy to submit it. It was for the inside of the toilet and when the guy came out, he said he didn't have the parts. He said he'd be back the next day and we set up a specific time because I had an appointment. But he showed up early and before I was enroute to my appointment. So I was trying to get ahold of him and it was very difficult. I had to jump through hoops to get ahold of him and his company. I eventually got through to them and told them the situation. And he came back later that afternoon and fixed the problem. But I was not impressed with him. I gave them the scoop as to what was the problem and I thought they would carry the needed parts when they came out.

Before my husband passed away last year, AHS sent out techs for the washing machine and they repaired it. After my husband passed, I needed to utilize the services again and the techs came out twice. But AHS went up on the fee which I was not familiar with. It was $75 and it went up to $100. Other than that, I've had no problem with them and they've been a great help to me. I have a direct deposit coming out of my account in order to utilize their services and aside from the monthly fee, I have to pay them a deductible for the techs to come out. Then I have to pay them again once the service is done. But the service is needed, so I keep it. Here in Houston, we just experienced a hurricane and I'm glad I have the service if I need it.
Aside from that, the techs I've had were very experienced and polite. One time, the washing machine and stove were acting crazy and two techs came out. But I wanted the stove to be cleaned and I was told that they don't clean the stove. Nevertheless, they came out to check it for maintenance, to make sure it was okay, and it was excellent work.

We've had AHS for a few years and we've been pleased with most of everything. For my recent claim, they've honored my request to use Same Day Air. We used them once before and we wanted to stay with the same company that came in April. But I was disappointed with the techs who came out for our garage door problem. The company that AHS chose to send out never gave us any information when or how they were coming. Then, we finally heard something, but they didn't come. So I won't know until Monday if the fault lies on the company or American Home Shield. Some companies don't want to work with AHS because they don't get paid enough for what they're doing and I understand that. I'm just grateful that we have anything to help us with the cost of the things that break down.

AHS is very reactive. As soon as you make your claim, it goes in and the service person gets back with you within the timeframe that's designated, usually earlier. Then they schedule you as quick as they can, understanding the emergency situation such as an air conditioning going out in a 100 and something degrees. This happened to me recently where I had a frozen line on my AC and it was not getting cool. I submitted a claim with AHS on their website then the technician from Air Design came out very quickly. He identified the issue, which had something to do with the compressor, and he fixed it in 15 minutes. We haven't had any issues since then.

I've been well pleased with American Home Shield up to a point. But I'm disappointed with them. It took them forever to find a contractor to start with. Most reputable contractors don't want anything to do with them. They start with (and I fell for this one time), “You go ahead and get somebody, and we'll reimburse you.” But I know how that works. They would then say, "We can't cover that so we're not gonna reimburse you.” If they can't find somebody within five days, they'll start that nonsense with you. People fall for that, but I won't.
I had an issue with my air conditioner. The guy they sent got 10 things to do that day which I understand. It's summer time. He came out, plugged it up, and said, “You need five pounds of coolant. It’ll cost you $500.” They fixed it, and it probably would have cost me a couple of thousand dollars that I did not have to pay. However, the next morning, the unit had cut off because the pan had flooded. Thank God the safety float in the pan cut the unit off, or I got it coming through the ceiling. The guy went up there and opened it up. It started working. Then he said, “I need to put a trap on the end of the line out of here in the yard.” He could fuse that trap with a P-trap beside the air conditioning unit. I don't need a trap on the end of the thing out 20 feet down inside the house. But he put it on there anyway.
When I left last week, it was dripping so I cut it all off. I called the company and they said they got my request. All of a sudden, I got a check and a message, “You have been denied, but we will replace the whole drain system and the P valve for $645.” I've already paid them 500. The drain system is not leaking. It's right. The unit where it’s tied into the unit is what's leaking. Up to this last time, it seems when you call American Home Shield, you get some gal from another country that can't speak English. They don't understand a word you're saying and you don't understand what they're saying. But that wasn't the case this time. I talked with somebody who spoke correct English and I had no problem getting through. They handled my situation with courtesy.

A repairman came out the first time within the next day and looked at the dishwasher that wouldn't drain. He had to order a part and the part came quickly. He got it done in three hours. However, we still got an issue with our air conditioning unit and we had so much trouble with American Home Shield. The guy they sent ruined my unit and did all kinds of sabotage. I tried to tell American Home Shield but they kept sending them. I'm not thrilled with that and that's cost us a lot of money. We ended up paying out of pocket and getting a new air conditioning unit, and I've been trying to get a reimbursement. But in general purposes, it is what it is. We still got them and use them.

My son was in military and he rented his house out. He got American Home Shield to protect the stuff that go on there so he wouldn't have to come and do it himself. He told me it was a good idea to get American Home Shield. I thought it would be good for me if something goes wrong in the house and it's hard to get someone to come out and fix it. I know if I call American Home Shield, I get somebody to come out and do it for me. When I call them, I don't have to wait. I have good service. If I have a problem with the people that they send, they get back in touch with them. I had that problem with Sears. The girl that works there told me she was gonna check it out, make my appointment, see what was going on, and she did. They get the job done.
Recently, I called American Home Shield to let them know that my washer was messed up. When I closed the door, it wouldn't wash. They sent a repairman out of here. He ordered a part and put it on. However, it came loose again so I just got it done last week with another company with Sears through American Home Shield. I've been with American Home Shield for five years now and I have recommend my sister and a cousin to them who joined them and likes them as well. I tell people all the time, "If you need something done, join the American Home Shield and you won't have to worry about going out on the street finding somebody to fix your product."

When I call American Home Shield, their representative helps me out. Recently, my air conditioner was not blowing cool air. The contractor who came out was very good. However, if I have some emergency and I need a technician urgently, they don't come right away. Also, they don't do anything. They come, check, and say they are not able to fix the issue. For my unit upstairs, the coils were too dirty. They weren't able to open that. They always find an excuse. I'm not satisfied with any kind of the professionals like this. They are only looking for the easiest, regular way. If the regular way fails, they say they can't fix it. They cannot think about the hard way or some other smart way. Sometimes I need to call a local technician to fix that because they can do whatever I want.

American Home Shield is a good company as far as the people that they send out. Most of the time, we're don't have an issue with anybody except the last one. When the dryer wouldn't close, the contractor had to order a part. However, it took a long time for them to get it. It was more than two weeks. Also, the part that they put on came off again. We just went ahead and bought a new dryer because the part that they ordered was plastic and it was much longer. It didn't even stay long.

American Home Shield is good when it comes to appliances. Unless you have a relationship with a repairman that's good, having American Home Shield is like having a relationship with a repairman that you can call on and pay the copay that lets you have a service call and have somebody that knows what they're doing fix the appliance. But I would not recommend them for plumbing or AC. When a contractor came out for an AC repair, they told me they could not fix it, but they would not replace it either. If they'd fix it, I'd have to pay an exorbitant amount of money. I ended up replacing the AC, which was very expensive. American Home Shield didn't keep their word about replacing it. It felt like I was nickel-and-dimed. When it comes to the AC and the plumbing, there are a lot of small things and it's so complicated that it isn't worth the time.
American Home Shield is not always reliable and sometimes, getting a repair person out takes a long time. Plus, you have to pay for a service call even if nothing's wrong or if they've already been out there. I don't think that's always right. Recently, I had a washer that was rocking back and forth and the barrel was moving. The first guy that came out tried to fix it. But that never got resolved and he also scraped my dining room table. The next person came out and said it couldn't be fixed so American Home Shield replaced it with a brand-new washer. However, some contractors that American Home Shield have had have not been that great. Astro Appliances is usually rude and abrupt. Some of them are very competent, but they don't have any people skills. TSA Appliance Solutions who came for the washer was a little bit better.

I would tell others to use American Home Shield. They're legit. The user interface for their website is straightforward. The turnaround time is 48 to 72 hours. It depends on when the request goes in because weekends are a thing. Recently, Performance Mechanical came out to address our shower. It wasn't draining properly. The plumber looked at it, went to his truck to grab a thing and it was fine.

When the unit upstairs went out, the repairman replaced the capacitor. He was very thorough. I've been with American Home Shield since 2021 and I would recommend them. They have a quick response and turnaround time. During the winter or the summer, their contractors will come out and get your units ready for the wintertime or the summertime. I have two units. One is free and I have to pay for the other one. But it'd be nice if it was both the wintertime or the summertime. Also when they schedule somebody to come, sometimes the time spans are a long time. The morning time span is 8:00 to 12:00 and the next time span is 12:00 to 5:00.
