I had an air conditioning problem where the upstairs and downstairs stopped cooling. I did an online request for service and after two days of no response, I finally called and got a representative who put me in contact with a contractor. Well the contractor couldn't come out for 5 days. I called back and got another contractor who could come out in 2 days but at the last minute called and said they would have to come later. Well come to find out the contractor would not look at both units at the house. Says he doesn't get paid for it and that I would have to have a second work order which apparently is not specified in the online request or was not mentioned by the representative that I spoke to on the phone.
After several phone calls to AHS they basically tell me it's my fault and I should have known. What makes matters worse. When I finally asked for a number to corporate, the agent gave me the phone number for another company not even associated with AHS. And all of the calls that I have made to the corporate offices based on numbers I found on the web go unanswered. I really wish I could get a number for the owner or at least a call back from someone who acts like they cared. Worst customer service experience ever.

I call them to submit a claim or do it online and then I let them know what the problem is. They give me a name and a service number, and I'm free to call the company that they have come out here. It's really simple and very quick. The AHS reps were very professional and didn't beat around the bush. They took care of the need I had and got me somebody that could get it fixed.
Recently, I was having a problem with my AC for the second time and American Home Shield had somebody come out. They found that the issue was with the thermostat. They put the thermostat in including an internal fuse because the last time they came out, there was a problem with the fuse. Then it happened again and I thought it was the fuse. I replaced the fuse myself but that didn't solve it. They came out and found that it was the internal thermostat. They replaced it without a charge. Now they have two fuses to make sure that there will be no overload. Being here in Texas in triple digits, the AC is always a good thing, and we didn't have any problems with heat or being too hot now.
Everybody that they send out here gets the job done. They're professional. I had them come out for a couple of other things before and I like that they don't take their sweet time. They come out and do what needs to be done, find out what the problem is, fix it, and they're gone. They don't waste any part of my day. They're very organized and competent, and they complete all work in a timely manner.

I submitted a claim online because my AC wasn’t blowing cold air. I had to call them to get it scheduled or to confirm because I didn't receive the phone call from the technician. It got scheduled and the technician came out. He addressed the problem and replaced the capacitor. The tech has been in our house before, and he's been great both times. Working with AHS has been simple and straightforward.

I've been using American Home Shield since we bought this house almost 11 years ago, and plan to continue using them. I've been very happy with them. They're quick and easy to work with. My most recent claim was when our upstairs central air conditioning system failed. It was Home Service Corp that they used a lot in this area, and I've been very happy with them every time. They sent the technicians out and identified what the problem was. It turned out that a roofer had put a nail through the refrigerant. However, it wasn't covered due to the nature of the damage. I like that the person who called me was proactive, professional, and understanding. What she told us was bad news, but she handled it well.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for my AC unit. Their claims process was easy and simple. Their contractor came out and took care of it. They're very knowledgeable and they did what they had to do. I don't care too much about their rates but they're the best thing I've ever seen. AHS is a good company. They pay what they say they'd pay or fix what they say they'd fix. Sometimes we got other functions that need to be done in order for them to do what we called for but other than that, they're good.

I paid $700 over the course of this year for this plan. My A/C stopped working on Monday. It blows but will not cool. It is over 100 here this week. My son has Asperger's syndrome. I called them. The first company they put me in contact with was JJ's Fire and Ice. They called and tried to schedule an appointment for Thursday. That is a bit too long for a special needs child to go with no air conditioning in Arizona. I asked for expedited service.
They called another company, Consolidated Mechanical. They took the appointment on an expedited basis, and then never called me. I finally reached out to them and they could not make it out until Thursday. I called American Home Shield. They switched my request to Sweet Mountain Cooling and Air. Sweet Mountain showed up today. He climbed up on my roof for a total of five minutes, came back down and told me that I need Freon and he will put some leak stop in the unit to stop the leak. He quoted $80 a pound for the Freon. American Home Shield covers Freon at $10 a pound. JJ's Fire and Ice quoted $60 for Freon. Essentially, my $700 paid to American Home Shield adds up to absolutely no coverage. I paid $75 for the service call and will now have to get my A/C fixed on my own.

Called AHS to schedule a service for my clogged kitchen sink. They called Ostarly Plumbing. After arriving, I was told that they couldn't service my sink. The service man told me I still owed him $125 for him coming out even after HE DID NO WORK! I do not recommend AHS or Ostarly Plumbing! Why be a plumbing company if you can't service people's plumbing issues? Why be a warranty company who can't seem to hire competent sub-contractors?

I have always had positive experiences with American Home Shield, as far as repairs were concerned. However now that I need to have my clothes washer replaced, it is another story altogether. The price on the model I want is $300 higher than I could buy it for at a retail store. I also checked into purchasing the matching dryer from AHS, but their price is $130 higher than I could purchase it for at a retail store. So much for their Appliance Purchase Program saving the consumer money! They are impossible to get hold of on the phone - I've been on hold for hours at a time! After this is settled, I will probably research other home warranty companies.

I had two things going on at the same time. I had a dryer that went out and then the stove cooktop had finally given up the ghost. Talking with the American Home Shield rep was great. I was able to submit both claims on one ticket. I didn't know I could do that until I was talking with somebody on the phone. The first contractor that came out was from Sears. He fixed the dryer and then looked at the stove top. He immediately said it was too old and couldn't be fixed, and it has to be replaced. Somebody else came to confirm that. I then talked to someone at AHS who listed my options of replacing the stove top. They let me choose the one that was closest to what I had, then ordered it and had it shipped in. It took about four days before the folks came out and installed it.
A friend of mine put me on to AHS and I'm really glad I had made that decision. The irony of it was three weeks after, the air conditioner broke. I felt almost guilty calling. I had only sent in one payment and was calling them to get service, but I'm sure glad I had it. They covered it quickly. They got right out here within two hours to fix the air conditioner. Also, when I got the contract, they told me that each time I call, I should tell them if the issue is affecting my health, because I do have health issues.

I've had 5 AHS homes under warranty for several years now. I file a claim or two per year total and usually get fairly good service. But things have changed in the last couple of years. My recent experience: I filed a claim for repair of an air conditioner on June 4, 2016. AHS promptly referred Temp-A-Cure Inc to make the repair. They showed up at my rental within a couple of days, diagnosed the problem, and said they would order the part. Then Temp-A-Cure dropped off the face of the earth. Over the course of several weeks, I called them 8 times, emailed several times, and refiled the claim with AHS. No response from anyone. I called AHS, waited on hold 34 minutes, and spoke to a rep who said she would take care of it. I confirmed she had my correct cell number and email. Never heard back.
This story repeated 4 times. On these successive calls (and similar wait times on hold) I was told that my claim had been turned over to a supervisor, but still no calls back from anyone. I asked that AHS send out a more responsive vendor. That's against their policy. I put in more calls to Temp-A-Cure. They set up a time to finish the service call, but didn't show. I called back, complained. They said they would show up the next day. Didn't happen. Repeated a third time. No show. Meanwhile the weather is hitting the 80's to 90's, and my impatient tenants have no AC. I finally called a local HVAC company, Honke Heating. They came out within a couple of days, diagnosed, ordered the part. It arrived in two more days and they installed it the next day.
I'm sending the bill to AHS, less my deductible. I'm also turning this over to the Oregon Insurance Commissioners office and filing a complaint with the BBB. And, if I get steamed enough, I'll consider turning the whole thing over to one of my corporate attorneys. It's only $500, but I think AHS needs to be held accountable. I'll keep you updated on how this turns out. And in the meantime, I've canceled 4 of my AHS policies. Too bad.

Terrible service. I submitted a claim, then called and found out that it would not be covered so I told them never mind on the claim. I guess my wording wasn't good enough because a few days later a technician showed up at my house unscheduled and I asked him to leave. Now I get a bill for the "services" rendered and 5 phone calls later (with literally an hour wait time for each call) I am still getting the run around about following "protocol" and "he-said/she-said" sob stories about why this bill is my fault and there is no way out of it. I never even agreed to an appointment! As if paying almost $500 a year for this service wasn't already a lot, now they want my money for following "protocol" to treat me like crap. I even had a representative (Reshaud) tell me that he would not transfer me to a supervisor because they would only tell me what he already said.
Updated on 8/16/2016: Called to cancel my service and receive a refund for the remainder of my policy. They told me no refund was due because of administrative costs of canceling.

Our air conditioner was low on coolant so I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield via phone. In the past, I file through the website. Even without the account number, they can pull it up just as long as I give them my actual email address. I wasn't on hold very long when I called. Their rep was pleasant and answered the phone quickly. Then she explained to me the procedure: they’ll file the claim, call the vendor who is to call me within 24 hours, and all of that happened. The contractor came out, verified that it was low on the coolant and added them. Within 45 minutes, everything was okay.
The air conditioner’s cool now but what happened was that because it was low on coolant, the actual line freezes up because it gets really cold at the beginning of the line and so there’s not enough pressure to fully move the coolant all through the line. He had to turn on the heater in order to melt the ice so it would drain properly so that when he adds the coolant, it would work. At this time of year, it’s over 100 degrees every day, so I got to have my air conditioner working.
What I don’t like about AHS is that they’ll treat the symptom but not necessarily the cause. This is the third time in three years that we’ve had to have somebody come out to add the coolant. According to the technician, there is a small leak somewhere in the system but he’s just there to repair it so that it will stay cold. But a year later, it’s going to start all over again and each time, I’ve got to pay the $75 deductible. But that’s the procedure that they have. Also, even though it’s a warranty, they’ve decided to change the amount of money that they’ll pay per pound for the coolant because these are older systems. Instead of the $40 or $50 a pound, they only pay $10. So in addition to the $75 of my deductible, I had to pay another $80 or $90 for the difference that the vendor charged for his coolant than what AHS would do.
It’s even worse for the new air conditioners because the old ones they can add to. But with the new ones, if it falls below a certain amount, they’re not able to add because it’s a combination of oil and gas. And so, they have to drain the entire system which is about eight to ten pounds of coolant so that could cost me an extra $200 to $300, and I’m not real happy about that. I have a new air conditioner in my house in San Jose, which is for my second contract. So if the air conditioner has a leak, that’s going to cost me just as much as one year’s worth of actual insurance with the company.
I had another claim before this which was for the garage door opener. At first, I had to fight with the vendor because, once again, they wanted to fix the actual immediate problem. I had called them three or four times for the opener not closing properly and what they would do is they’d come out to make an adjustment with a screwdriver which I could do. Finally, I convinced them to call back AHS to get permission to change the garage door opener motor. And since then, I haven’t had a problem. The flaw that they have is that they’re reluctant to look at the big picture. They only want the vendors to take a look at the small one. But for the money, I get good coverage. I just wish that they would cover more extensive service.

I've been with AHS for 15 years and my experience has been fine. The only hassle is trying to get a hold of a person on the phone. It used to be I just simply got on the phone, dialed, and said agents, and I can get somebody. Now, I have got to do this and that and it's really annoying, but the rest of it is gold.

In May, my air conditioner wasn't working so I called American Home Shield and filed a claim. I told them what the problem was and they sent me a message saying that I would be getting a call from a particular business. The same guy who looked at our air conditioner last time came and fixed it. It's been working fine since then. Every time I call American Home Shield, my concerns are always taken care of quickly and I never have any problems. I call back if ever I have an issue again. They've been great, professional, on time, and worth the money.

One of the electric burners on my cooktop was not working so I had AHS service it for me. The technician who came out was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to identify the problem real fast and suggest the right action, come back and fix it later on. He also gave us a lot of tips on how to maintain it and how to not have problems in the future. We've been back for three days because we're out of the country and the cooktop is working how it should.
In general, AHS been pretty good with most of our requests, except they have a lot of fine print things in between that catch us by surprise. Although they do send a 50-page document which you're supposed to read line-by-line to understand what they cover, it would probably be more customer-oriented if they can have their website also prompt you for symptoms. For example, if my AC isn't cooling, they could give a list of items that they will support and items that they don't, rather than make us pay the $75 service charge and then say that we won't be supported. That has happened to me in the past.

I could not be more disappointed in your service American Home Shield and vendor. I called for a number of plumbing issues and you sent out Rite-A-Way services to check things out on 7/29/16. Turns out all the problems stem from our water pressure regulator which is at DOUBLE the pressure it should be. We are at 140 PSI and it should be about 70 PSI. The technician said we were lucky we didn't have busted pipes or a cracked slab already. The technician told me it was a $600 - $700 repair, but it would be covered and that we would have to pay $350 out of pocket for a "pipe modification because the new part which meets code does not fit within our current piping".
When the technician left I called AHS to see why you denied this charge and the customer service rep said you hadn't denied anything. You hadn't even received the repair estimate from the vendor. SHADY. I was told I would hear back within 48 hours. Never heard back. I looked Rite-A-Way up on Yelp and they had a 2 star rating with a number of homeowners saying they caused damage that was never repaired. I also looked them up with the Better Business Bureau and they had an *F* rating. Not exactly the kind of business I want doing any repairs on my home let alone our main water line.
I contacted a plumber we had worked with in the past that I trusted and sent them a picture of our regulator. First they said that kind of pipe modification should only cost $75 - $100 IF I needed it at all. When they looked at the photo of our current regulator they told me it was not out of code, it was the preferred part from the best supplier and that NO modification was needed. The part they should be using is WATTS LF25AUB-S-DU-Z3. They quoted $475 for the entire repair (parts & labor). I called you guys again on 8/3/16 to find out why I hadn't heard anything from you or Rite-A-Way. I was told that you STILL did not have the bid. So much for your 48 hour timeline.
The customer service rep at that time told me they would investigate and call me back. NO CALL BACK. I called again on 8/5/16. This time I waited over an hour on hold while your Rep called Rite-A-Way and got the information needed. Your rep confirmed that I would have to pay $350 out of pocket. When I asked the rep what part was on the bid, they didn't know. When I asked what size regulator was on the bid they didn't know (we have 1 1/4" pipe which apparently is not exactly standard and is more costly). I asked about a buyout and was told that I would have to wait 2 - 3 days for that information. When I pressed for it to be expedited because I had already waited a week I was given the figure of $145 for the buyout which was supposed to include reimbursement the $75 service fee paid by me. So in total AHS would only be paying $70 for this repair (parts and labor) if I used your vendor.
This is ABSURD. I don't know any plumbers that even charge $70/hr without even mentioning the part which is $300 minimum. I once again asked for the part number and size listed and that information was not even included in the bid. I called Rite-A-Way Services the same day and asked for that information and I am still waiting for that. This is obviously a scam. Why am I paying out of pocket nearly the same amount another quoted me for the entire repair? Why exactly am I paying a monthly fee to you to insure my home if there is absolutely zero benefit in it and your vendors shift the costs right back to the customer??? Meanwhile I have this ticking time bomb of 140 pounds of pressure waiting to be fixed.

I have been with this company for almost 13 years. The last two years we've had some problems here on the property and yes they have stood behind them and fix them. The total amount of money that they have paid out within 13 years was $2500 and in 13 years they have made $25,740 for 13 years of service and I will say within the 13 years they have been having very bad communication with their customers. They renew my contract with them without even email or written letter and within the 13 years they kept on raising the service contracts fee without notifying us too so the biggest problem that I have with using them a couple years now they have asked made me--I have to pay them hundred $80 a month to have insurance with them. So I quit them and I'm going to a different company.

I have been a customer since 2014. I have always received good service from AHS. We recently updated all our appliances and do not feel there is a need for a home warranty any longer. Our contract is due to renew in September so I called to cancel the automatic renewal. After numerous attempts (on hold for over an hour) to talk with the cancellation department I am told that I will receive a call back within 24 hours. The return call is never made. Customer Service tells me all they can do is transfer my call. Twice, all they have done is transfer my call to another Customer Service agent. I just need the same service AHS provides in response to a service call.

It’s a little bit frustrating because it's not working properly and I'm truly not satisfied. I just really thought it wouldn't have been this much. I don't know if I would use AHS again because of this experience. I wouldn't do the insurance through them again because I pay them $125 to come out and put something in and it's still not working properly. I would have expected once they put that one back in May that I would not have to call again.

I have had my 3 homes covered by AHS. During the past 7 months, I had only 2 claims (service calls) & both were very disappointing. My last call was 2 mos. ago about the remote control for our Casablanca Ceiling fan. I made the call, a serviceman came in who had no clue about this type fans. He was trying to look it up on the internet to see how the fan works. He accused us of taking the receiver out of the fan's box (the fan was working for the past 20 years and is located about 8 feet up high)! He left without doing anything! Our claim was rejected and we were billed for the service call too! I left a msg for a manager to call me asap, for I was leaving to go out of the country in the next 2 days. Needless to say, no one called! When my husband told me we got an overdue invoice from AHS for service call on the fan, I was very upset! I called them from my mom's house (in Armenia) and explained the situation.
After putting me on hold for about 45 mins, the representative told me that remotes are not covered, and that's why our claim was rejected! Again, I explained to her that my fan only works by using the remote control (no switches), so she put me on hold again for another 40 mins, came back with a good news and said it is definitely covered! So she made arrangements for another serviceman (more qualified one) to come in! Only after an hour, she called my husband back and told him that the Ceiling fans ARE NOT covered in our contract!! When I came back from my trip, I called AHS and asked to cancel all 3 contracts and to reimburse my premium. The representative calculations were as disappointing as their service. She told me I only receive $40.00 credit back from $480 premium I paid! My contract was not going to end until next January! Her explanation was that I had 2 claims so they have to deduct the service calls!
I asked many times to talk to a manager and left msgs for a manager to call me, but no luck! I finally called yesterday and stood on the phone for a long time until I got to speak to a manager, Dane **! After wasting my time explaining the situation to her, she repeated what the other representative told me! For my first claim several months back, they only paid about $30 to the service man, and my 2nd claim was denied! So I don't see how they calculate 40 refund? I still had over 5 months left on my policy and I was told by their sales department that anytime I cancel my contract, the refund will be prorated! This company is not honest. They use unqualified service people and try really hard to deny claims. They have no clue about customer service. Their system is flawed and they put the responsibility on the customer.
As much time I wasted on the phone on hold and with them over this issue, I should be billing them! And my fan is still not working!! I have a copy of my contract where it looks to me that ceiling fan was supposed to be covered, however, they go through extended lengths to deny you, and then they still want to get paid for a service that was denied! All I want at this time is to have a fair amount of refund come back to me. I have already made my choice to go to another company, and have no intention of going back to AHS. If they don't treat me fair, I will do my best to let all my friends and family know about how unfair and unprofessional these people are! I am not a vindictive person, however, I think I owe this to make others aware of this company's practices.

Our air conditioning unit wasn't turning on, and we filed a claim with American Home Shield. It was quick and easy. We did it on the phone but we didn't talk to anybody but went through an automated system. The contractor they sent was great. It was taken care of in a couple of days, which was expected. We called on a Friday and he came on Tuesday. The air conditioning unit has been working fine so far. In the past, we had numerous problems and it took them a month to get things repaired. They're not quick and efficient, and the person they sent out wasn't the best. However, we were very happy with the most recent person they sent. So, it's a hit and miss with who you get.
In addition, they're very quick to get the service set up but they don't always spend the money the wisest way. They'll let the contractor spend ridiculous amounts of money, time, and material, rather than replacing something. They'll spend almost more than the thing is worth to fix it rather than replace it. They should give us the option to pay a little bit more, and then they can just replace something. It'd be more efficient because every time we call them to have something fixed, we pay $75, and by the time they pay and we pay, we've spent more than the item is worth in many situations.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for air conditioning that was blowing hot air. It went good, except for it wasn't escalated to be in an important claim. My husband had to sit on the phone to escalate it for an emergency service, not 48 hours because we live in Arizona and it was 116 at the time. Other than that, it was flawless. The contractor came out at the scheduled time, went on the roof, fixed the fan right there on the spot. We didn't have to wait on parts. It was a perfect. The air conditioner works so we're happy and comfortable in our house and we didn't have to call back. The repair stayed.

I have been promised multiple times that they will get it fixed. They have promised they will call back with info and they have never called me back. I can't even get a hold of their subcontractor. They have even promised to return my $75 for the service call, only to tell me later that they can't do that. I can never talk to a supervisor and I can't talk to the same person twice. I won't go into all the details, but I contacted AHS in January for service on my water softener, 2 toilets and a sink faucet that was making a loud noise even when off. AHS told me that I didn't have the water softener on my contract. I specifically made certain when I started with AHS that I had that coverage. After some discussion, the representative agreed that it was covered. They had Stallion Plumbing (Utah) come out. He fixed one of the toilets, said he had to order a part for the other toilet, and a part for the faucet. He said AHS told his company that the water softener wasn't covered, so he wouldn't look at it.
After 2 weeks of waiting for the part, I called the company and they came back out in February. By that time the toilet that he fixed wasn't working again. He took the faucet apart, and the toilet. I don't know what happened but after 7 months, I still had 2 toilets not working and a faucet still torn apart. I could have bought, at least a new faucet myself, but I have enough on my plate. AHS told me that Stallion Plumbing canceled the repairs. Stallion Plumbing told me that AHS wouldn't respond to their calls.
Whenever I talked to AHS, they were responding by reading a script they were obviously supposed to read. I finally got an attorney involved. While waiting for this to get resolved, I didn't want to cancel my service, so 3 weeks ago I had to have my washer repaired. American Appliance came out and said he had to order a part. I'm still waiting. American Appliance called me 5 days ago and said the washer couldn't be repaired, so AHS was willing to cash out a replacement value. She said they should be calling me. Their replacement value is pitiful.
Updated on 09/11/2016: When I got my attorney involved, I was told to purchase two toilets and a faucet, and have them installed, and send AHS copies of the receipts and invoice. I promptly got these to my attorney, and he fax them to AHS. I was told that by doing this I would receive a compensation check for $1,000. Not only have I not received it, neither I nor my attorney has gotten any response.
When I call AHS I am told that is being handled by their legal department. When I asked to speak to the legal department they say that they don't have the number and they don't have that information. My attorney has not been able to get any information from them as well. I was told that I could expect the check within 7 to 10 business days but I have not received the check nor any communication for several weeks. Each time I call I have to explain the whole situation after waiting on hold for 45 minutes to an hour each time. I haven't been able to pay the invoice to the contractor for the installation of the two toilets and the faucet because I have been waiting for the check. I have also incurred attorney fees, which I need to pay. Since AHS has done nothing to resolve the problem, I will be litigating for triple damages and attorney fees.

I am new with AHS. My 1st service request was electrical. Outside light would not work and in bedroom the breaker kept tripping to the off position when several items were being used. Requesting the service request was easy and got contractor's call same day. The contractor they sent, I thought was going to be a certified electrician, was just a technician. He removed the light fixture, checked the wiring and said the problem was loose wire connection. Adjusted the loose wiring and rewired the light fixture.
In the bedroom, again said was loose wiring to breaker and needed a larger breaker. Installed a 20 amp breaker, removed the 15 amp. Said all was well. Bedroom area is ok as far as I can tell, but the outside light, when I turned light on the power went off. Happened several times. Paid for a Master Electrician come and check problem. The technician wired the light incorrectly. When light switched turned on, sparks flew out causing breaker to turn off. The electrician said this could have very easily started a house fire. He found other things the technician did wrong and fixed them.
I called AHS, they waived the $75 fee and apologized. Decided to give them another chance. AC thermostat kept getting stuck, would not turn off. They gave me name of AC company number one on their list, I checked their BBB ratings and had several complaints, asked for another AC company. The AC employee came out, said thermostat needed replacing and also would need additional work possibly replace unit.
Would call AHS for approval to replace thermostat. Did not hear anything for several days, called them was told AHS denied the replacement of thermostat. Needless to say, I have had nothing but bad experience with AHS, would not recommend them to my worst enemy. And trying to call them is impossible. Was on hold for an hour the first time I called, 45 minutes the 2nd and last time I called 30 minutes. While their answering time did improve somewhat, the representative could not help me would have to transfer to another department. Very dissatisfied.

I had the hot water valve to my kitchen sink fail and some of the o-ring pieces from the valve clogged up the hot water supply line of my faucet as a result. AHS replaced the shutoff valve but refuses to fix the faucet. Why? Because it's not considered "normal wear and tear" since it is a "foreign object" blocking the line. Yes, the foreign object that is a direct result of a non-foreign, covered item, inches ahead of the faucet in the supply line. Even the plumber that AHS sent out said it was a common wear and tear issue for older homes like mine and should be covered! Bottom line is that I could not recommend AHS to anyone after watching them do all they can to avoid fully processing a claim even though all parts in question are listed as covered in our agreement (specifically sections C.3.a-e and F.4).

Three months have passed without AC, many calls to AHS and sometimes the wait time is over an hour to talk to a representative at AHS. After 3 months and many calls to AHS and the contractor the unit is still not fixed. At last AHS offered a cash out which is a pity $500 but contingent upon another provider to fix the unit and provide a paid receipt. AHS wait time and their handling of contractors they use is really bad. My complaint to AHS about the contractor did not go anywhere and at last I had to give up.

It’s very convenient to file claims online with American Home Shield, and we always get a prompt response back from the company that is required to come. We recently contacted them to service our washing machine. The knob was broken and we needed it replaced. Overall, our experience has always been excellent except for the latest one with the washing machine. They had to order the part that had to be replaced and it took some time. Washing machines are vital and I don’t go to laundromats so my husband ended up calling, and they said that they already have the part but forgot to call us. They then scheduled an appointment and came out two days later. My husband said the service guy was very nice. The washing machine is working well and we’re happy.

I had to call Home Shield two years ago for my air conditioner. A guy came out and told us all the stuff that was wrong with our air conditioner when we knew it wasn’t. So we called Home Shield and they said, “You all are being scammed and so we really don’t want to use this guy.” Home Shield was very good, and they said, “We're gonna send somebody else out, and whenever they ask you for the money, just tell them to call Home Shield and we'll take care of it.” They fought with the other people who were trying to scam them.
And then I haven't had any problems at all with my house until last month - my air conditioner was making a really terrible sound. So I had to use Home Shield for that. They told me when somebody was gonna come out. He was there when he said he was. He fixed it right then and there. I'm a fan. I even went on their website and gave a recommendation about that company and also the gentleman that came out and fixed my air conditioner. He was fast and professional. It was really nice. I also used Home Shield 10 years ago when a part of my stove went out. Someone came out and replaced the part. But the part went out again. So again, they came out, replaced it, and Home Shield did not charge me for the second guy coming out.

I didn’t call AHS to cancel it, though. They told me that once they assigned a vendor that I dealt with them indirectly. I made other claims in the past for air conditioning and some plumbing issues, and I always had good experiences with the vendors that they’ve contracted with. I filed a claim over the phone for an air-conditioning and we chose cash outs but I was a bit surprised because if we had gone to the route that they recommended, which is just to change a piece, that was going to cost them a lot more than what they were offering us as a buyout. So, I’m a little bit disappointed. I don’t understand why they would pay less for me to replace it when I am paying most of it from my own pocket. And they were willing to pay more for the system that will be obsolete.
Every time I have an issue, it costs them more to get it fixed so I don’t understand the logic behind it. So far, I've had good interactions with their reps about 60% of the time. The rest were due to their attitude like sounding angry or being impatient. The contractors were not good with repairs. I ended up either recalling or they were not providing 100% what they are supposed to. We're now considering to quit the program because it’s costing us more.

I called American Home Shield on 7/26 for an air conditioner that was not working when we woke up that morning. Everything seemed ok when we scheduled the contractor to come out and look at the AC. They could not find anyone to come out for at least two days. The contractor did not call me, so I called them and found out they do not take credit cards as payment, we finally agreed I would pay AHS with the service fee and the technician would come out. They never showed up at the agreed upon time.
I had to call AHS again to get another contractor to come out and again, it was another two days until someone could come out. Also, again, no one would call me so I would have to call the contractor myself to find out any information. The service tech did come out this time and we found out we have a blown compressor (grounded compressor) and need a new one, as well as new freon. As the technician came out late on a Saturday afternoon, he told us that the paperwork would not be put in until monday.
I called monday to AHS and they had not received the work order or the part order. At this point there was a back and forth numerous times calling AHS and the contractor and nobody seemed to know what was going on or could do their job until I finally had to guilt trip the contractor into sending the paperwork in. The reason why they did not send it in on time? The employee who does that took some personal days and no one else would do it.
I call AHS again to see if anyone else can come out and do the work but they claim once a part is ordered for a job, they cannot send anyone else out. AHS only works with three HVAC companies from what a representative told me, so I doubt they were any better. I finally got a concrete date when the contractor will come out, it will be August 10th which is 16 days after I originally called them about this problem. Apparently looking at issues involving this particular contractor and AHS, this is not a new issue and from other contractors I have talked to, nobody wants to work with them anymore.
Also, every call takes at least 40 minutes to an hour and a half to get anyone on the phone and when you do, they do not know anything. Apparently, since I pay them money, I have to do their job for them and act as a go between the contractors and their company. I have heard every excuse in the book from these people and not once did I get a response that resembled, "Let me fix that for you", "I can get that done" or anything to solve my issue of being without air conditioning for 16 days with a disabled Veteran, a 9 month old baby and a woman who has had a heat stroke in the house. I do not understand how they claimed to be the #1 home warranty company when they only work with shady contractors, have serious communication issues and cannot resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

We bought our house in 2004 and have been AHS members since then. Almost every year we have had to have one or both of the A/C units serviced as well as the pool pump. This year, we've been informed that our monthly rate has increased from $75 to $116 because the amounts they've had to pay contractors in the last year have exceeded our premiums. We have never been made aware of the costs to AHS nor were we aware that there was a threshold. We still don't know what these numbers are.
Bottom line is that we purchased this plan to help FIX our home appliances. Our downstairs A/C has been leaking coolant for at least the last 10 years. Several companies have come out to tried and fix it, and each year we have to call because it doesn't cool. Nobody has ever truly solved the problem. The pool pump they keep replacing (for which we pay extra to cover) is the cheapest on the market and about every two years, it fails. We've had no say in the brand installed. To us, it seems that AHS has approved to temporarily band-aid the problems or approved installation of bad products. Had the items been fixed right to begin with, we would not have had so many calls (which cost us an additional $75 each time someone comes out) and would still be in good graces with AHS.

I have tried to handle this with AHS with no positive results. I am at the end of my rope and will express how negating of a view I have had with American Home Shield. I have been a Warranty Holder with AHS for 5+ years. And for about as long I have encountered the same issue twice a year. At some point in the summer, AC goes on the fritz and I have to contact AHS. They send a tech out and each time they add coolant. Each time I contact AHS about this problem, I remind them that continuing to add coolant to a system that you know is leaking is a violation and illegal practice. This negatively impacts the ozone layer, but they continue to send techs out and the techs continue to "patch" the problem. I was advised by a tech that AHS only authorizes them to return the system to a functional position.
The result? Coolant twice a year for my leaky system and I have to pay at least 300 dollars because AHS only covers coolant to a certain amount. I always need more. The only reason I am still using this company is because it has been the cheaper way to handle my issue. I don't have 3k to buy a new system. That is what I pay this warranty each time. Hoping and praying that this time will be the time it finally gets fixed. Well it's been over 5 years and it has not happened yet. I hope EPA gets a hold of this comment. This got to be an Environmental Hazard and at best a breach of warranty or something. My view of AHS is they don't stand by their services. They only patch never fix and stick the consumer with the biggest part of the bill. If I could afford to not used them I would.
UPDATED ON 10/03/2016: First and foremost, I have taken the liberty of including my original complaint which AHS claimed to have resolved. THEY DID NOT RESOLVE IT! I I have a recorded conversation and a credit card statement to prove it. As a result of this company and their fraudulent business practices I have discontinued my service with them as of 10/03/2016. I will do all I can to steer business AWAY from AHS. Despite being promised by an AHS representative "Lashonda" on 08/18/2016 (call recorded) that AHS would cover the 75.00 service fee, I ended up paying the fee because it was sitting on my account as a past due balance since 08/08/2016 (Would ConsumerAffairs like a copy?).
This was the last straw for me, and proves that even when they CLAIM to have RESOLVED the issue they are lying through their teeth. They did not follow through with their promises, therefore this consumer report is justified. I want my 75.00 back!

We have had an American Home Shield Contract for almost a year. Yesterday (a Saturday) our downstairs air conditioning system went out. We called in the service request and were told a company called American Air Conditioning and Heating here in San Antonio would call us shortly to schedule an appointment. They then sent an email at 5:19 on Saturday saying the same thing. When we hadn't heard anything by 2 pm on Sunday we called again. We were told that because our house has an upstairs unit and a downstairs unit it is not considered an emergency if one of the units goes out and to expect the contractor to call us Monday morning to set an appointment for some time in the future.
It didn't matter that our daughter and her family are staying upstairs. We are expected to sleep in a 90-degree master bedroom until it fits their schedule. Thinking about a warranty with American Home Shield? Just know that their customer service is controlled by accountants who could care less about the comfort of their clients.

Most recently, my dishwasher and microwave broke down, and I contacted AHS for service. In both instances, a company called Magic Appliance came out to look at these kitchen appliances and each instance, I was told that AHS would have to approve the repairs. Unfortunately, the claims were turned down. I was told that the microwave had to be 24" inches above the stovetop rather than the current 20" as required by California state law. It was then determined by the tech that because of improper installation the control panel was no longer working.
Another repairman from Magic Appliance said there was a dent in the dishwasher that caused the appliance to leak, and I later found out that because of that problem the item wasn't under warranty. The only way I could disprove that diagnosis was by having a different company come out and by my paying a second $75.00 fee there was the possibility that the problem that caused the dishwasher's malfunction would be covered by AHS.
In short, I was had by the fine print, however, but if a microwave stops working after years of service, why would the height of the installation now matter and with the dishwasher who really knows if the dent in the inside of its door cause the leak? It's just one tech's opinion. After a number of good years with AHS, it's discouraging to strike out twice with them especially when the cost for their service has been going up every year as well as its service charge fee of $75.00 per call when it was just $60.00 a couple of years ago and that makes for a 25% increase. As for myself, I'll be shopping around for other home warranty companies beginning with Secure Home Warranty. Happy hunting everyone!

I have great respect for American Home Shield, and really appreciate their people. Most of the time, I file a claim over the phone and it's so easy. They have been very prompt and send people who come and do what needs to be done, I pay the deductible, and they are on their way. I didn't have any problems with the contractors that they send. They always send the best person in the field. There are some vendors that are better than the others, and AHS is trying to be fair with all them, however, I would rather deal with somebody I know than somebody who is new. It would be nicer if there's an option for us to select a previous vendor.
A recent claim was for the garage door opener that went bad. The repair person came within two hours. He removed the part that had the issue, I paid the deductible and it's as good as it used to since the repair. Right now, we have a plumbing issue, and the plumber came right away. I filed the claim today and within three hours he was here. There was also a time when our refrigerator went bad. They sent someone out five times, but it was never repaired. What happened was they did not select the right vendor. We had no refrigerator for three months and were living on an icebox. Finally, I had to struggle hard to convince them to give me a new refrigerator because it was so bad. That was the worst situation that ever happened to us with this company. Other than that, I am happy with AHS and I have been loyal to them.

I recently filed a claim to American Home Shield, for heating and air. I had trouble filing through the phone because I had to wait quite a bit to get through but their reps were very helpful. My first service tech was nice and very polite and worked diligently on a Friday night but he blew out my compressor so I was not incredibly pleased with the outcome of the service as my $75 turned into a $500 charge. But they came and fixed it by Tuesday. I spoke with the owner of the company about the charges and he was not very accommodating.
I had to call for a second service request and was on hold and had to wait. When I got through, we had a problem with the contract because someone had not submitted their closed work order and I couldn’t get it online but the rep was very helpful. Overall, the wait time I had was 15 mins for the first time, 20 mins the second time, and this last time it was only 10 mins. I would rather use online but I was travelling then.

We've had American Home Shield in our rental house that we lived in and that’s been over 20 years. We also keep it on the house that we bought for 18 years and we wouldn’t go with anybody else. It’s affordable, low deductible and worth the money that I spend yearly. Even if I don't use it all year long, when I do need it, it's always important and always gets taken care of. I've referred it to several friends who are in rental houses and several friends who bought houses this year. We love AHS.
Recently, my air conditioning had not been cooling right for quite a while and it was running all day and the temperature would never get low enough. It turned out that the main lines were clogged up and it was two pounds low on Freon. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was super easy. I just got online and requested service and they sent me an email and who would be contacting me. The contractor didn't contact me, so about three days later, I called the contractor and they said they had the wrong phone number. They apologized and ended up having the contractor come out the same day I called. The contractor was awesome and explained everything very thoroughly like what was wrong with the A/C and why it was acting up.

I have had American Home Shield Service for at least 7 years. EVERY summer I have had basically the SAME issue with my Central AC, sometimes once, twice or even 3 times during the summer. Coil freezing or freon leakage. Each time a technician comes out, they add freon but no one takes the time to fix the problem and American Home Shield does NOT hold the repair companies accountable for NOT fixing the unit BUT American Home Shield WILL NOT replace the unit. There should be a lemon law on how many times an item can be worked on, then they should replace the item.

Several years ago, I’ve had some really, really bad experiences with AHS. I have rental properties in Tucson and they completely dropped the ball. They let one of my houses sit in the middle of summer, for four weeks, with broken air conditioner. Finally, we went through a district manager that straightened out the problem. But dealing with whoever they are back in Tennessee or Nashville and with the contractor out here was miserable until we got the district manager involved. At another property in Tucson, I had a similar problem and had to get her involved in it, too.
I recently had my garage door repaired with American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online and it went through perfectly. The installer came out and fixed the problem. It’s been the second time he’s been here and he was great. Our experience with AHS depends upon the contractors that they have available. I’ve also used them to repair a microwave at my home here in California and the contractor was not an English speaker. There was a language barrier and we either took her appointment or got nothing.

It’s difficult to get a hold of American Home Shield by phone. I called the other day with a billing question as I wanted to change the payment date on my account just for this month and I waited on hold for 25 minutes and never talked to a person. So when submitting a claim, I do it online most of the time. Other than that, the contractors American Home Shield have been sending were professional, able to come out promptly and get our problem addressed, with the exception of the pool guy, who was busy and didn’t get back to me until end of the period.

Their customer service is great and the contractor who came out was very kind, polite and very informative. When my AC wasn't blowing cold air, American Home Shield sent out a contractor to take a look at it. It has been out for 48 hours and it's not yet done because they have to order a part which would take a few days. It's very hot here in South Texas and being a family of six, it's not very easy. So I'm waiting to hear from them to know when they're going to come back and fix it.

While one of our AC units was cooling perfectly, had an issue with standing water that appeared all around the base of the AC unit. Called AHS on Tue, said we should turn off the unit and that the local contractor would be out on Thurs. The tech determined that the water issue was caused by a clogged pipe leading to condensate pump. Contractor cut pipe and cleaned out problem and reinstalled. Since the area for the coil was opened, he felt the need to spray what he said was "cleaner" all into and around the coil. Sealed the unit back up and all was supposedly fine. Later that night, the unit was not cooling as well and when I looked at the unit, there was ice forming all around the pipe coming out of the coil? Very strange given that the unit was cooling properly before the tech came out and now it was frozen up and not cooling.
The area of the house ended up getting very warm and it was not cooling at all. Called local HVAC company back late that Friday and got answering service. Said they would let them know, but may not hear back until Monday. Advised that we turn off unit and let thaw out. Interior of house got up to over 85 degrees and assumed they would be out on Monday. Heard nothing so called them and they had no record of issue and scheduled visit the following day after providing all of the information again. Turned unit back on and the cooling returned to normal? NO ice formed anywhere this time and unit was functioning back as normal.
Tech came out on Tue and opened unit back up, then used some device that supposedly detected a freon leak. Device beeped repeatedly and tech claimed there was a leak and we needed new coil. Get a call back from AHS the next day and said that they would replace coil, but the homeowner would be required to pay for some of the services and freon. And that the coil required 10 pounds of R-22 and that the price per pound was $100, of which AHS would only pay $10, resulting in $90 x 10 or $900 for freon. Really? Then there would be additional fees (aka "junk fees" IMO) consisting of "Mastic sealant" $150, Float for "water safety" $150, reclamation and recovery of the old freon $150 and disposal of the old coil $75. Total for everything would be $1,425!!!
Told them that this was unacceptable and that we would be getting a second opinion. Called another local HVAC company out (unbiased and completely unaware of above) and they checked all of our units and confirmed that all four were operating properly, NO freon leaks and NO issues. Very disappointing to go through this experience when we have been paying for this "Home Warranty" for 4 years at the rate of $50 per month and trusted them to utilize reputable contractors. Even putting that part aside, the coverage of $10 per pound of freon is a complete joke and obvious a racket to recoup a portion of the claim expenses. As you would expect, we are cancelling our contract.

We have been loyal customers for over 10 yrs with AHS. Never had any issue. They had been prompt, punctual and courteous. For the last few months noticed the endless wait times on hold trying to get hold of them. But the break point came when we had to replace our pool pump. Which we had done before too. They sent Aqua-Brite of FL who knew nothing of pool pumps. They tried to make it an electric issue but it wasn't. They came back, placed wrong motor, opened our pipes in such a way that we had a major leak so much that if we left the motor on it would flood our yard, not to mention the pump was wrong.
This continued for 3 months with no assistance from AHS. We even told them to come and see what had happened for themselves but AHS didn't. Ended up paying over $500 to Pinch a Penny to fix our pump plus the damage that AQUA-BRITE of FL did. They gave us a write up of what had happened to our system but AHS was not interested. Really sad to see a good company like AHS go so bad.

The technician was very efficient and didn’t take a long time. He told me that my air conditioner is doing well. I am very upset with AHS for not honoring their contract to pay me the cash out payment that I was quoted on getting ($726.00). I have been dealing with this issue since July 5, 2016 after my AC unit stop working. I called to have them to send someone out, but after I did that, it took the company 3 days before they could come out. Well when they made it, the guy that came out was weird, but then after assessing the problem he did not update me. It took another 2 days for them to inform me that my coil needed replacing. So considering the fact that I have had their service for almost 3 years, and paying $125 for each call, and paying $49.95 per month. I started thinking that this service isn't worth it. Because the company that came out quoted me a price of $660.00. Now mind you, I have had to use the service for the same AC. So I started thinking instead of continuing paying to basically have this system patch I should get a new AC.
Well I called to cancel my membership and was informed I could do a cash out, where they would pay me a portion to replace the coil, and I could use any company I wanted. So I said that sound better. So the representative I spoke with was very helpful, and considerate of my situation. So she asked me to forward a copy of the invoice of the replacement cost, and they would forward me a check. So after I did that, I received an email asking me to provide proof that I had the AC and coil replace. So I sent the requested information, and the rep that requested the information has not responded to any of my emails at all. And I can't seem to get anyone to respond to me.
Although I don't want to waste anytime with this any longer. But I expect a company of this size to be more professional, and respond to their customers. And honor that part of the contract. I do intend to get an attorney in regards to should they not respond by tomorrow. And I am going let everyone know about the experience I have had with this company. Many of the techs that comes out, say they are a rip off, but in my mind I feel it is a help. But now I really feel they are a rip-off company and could care less about their customers.

First of all, had the warranty for 6 months and never made a claim. This is for an investment property that I own that has renters. Saturday morning 7/23 main breaker melts to the house and no electricity for anything for the entire house. Called AHS – surprisingly their contractors do not work on the weekend and there are no exceptions made (didn't know that when the warranty was purchased – they conveniently left it out). Tenants could not go an entire weekend of 95+ degree temperatures in Kansas City without A/C. So I called a local electrician who came and confirmed that the breaker had melted and that the entire breaker panel needed to be replaced... ahh great that should be on my home warranty. I paid that electrician a fee to get electricity back on a limited basis so at least the A/C worked, which he did. Finally the AHS contractor calls me and can't make it out until 5 days later – ok fine.
He shows up and says "Yes main breaker melted, and needs to be replaced including the breaker panel," but he needs to get approval from AHS before making the repair. Unfortunately AHS call centers do not value the time of any of their clients. They had him on hold for over an hour. The AHS contractor is unable to wait – he tries over the next 7 days 3 more times. Finally after being on hold approximately 3 hours he gets through. AHS denies the repair because of the work around repair that is in place. Mind you the work around supplies electricity to the house for lights, A/C and the fridge. The tenants are unable to use the stove, microwave, washer/dryer or even dishwasher. The only way AHS will allow repair of even the main breaker is if the first electrician comes out and removes his work around (back breaker) and installs the melted one. What kind of bait and switch organization is this.
I'm shocked that they have such a high review on this website and I question the website and the reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if AHS is paying their call center reps to write positive reviews. All I see on their twitter account are unhappy people. I voiced my concerns and anger on twitter several times and was told to email social@ahslink.com. I sent 3 different emails to the address and never received a single response back. When you call them, you are inevitably left on hold waiting to speak to a representative. The longest I've waited was over an hour. When I continued to complain via twitter, the company blocked me on the platform. I used an alternative account, which they swiftly blocked as well. I'm on my third twitter account and expect it to be blocked shortly.
The company is the absolute worst. Do NOT waste your money using them. I have reported them to the Memphis area Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission for fraud, and am writing a review anywhere I can. I demand the entire payment of premiums I have made to them back. Please stay far, far, far away from this company unless you wish to be ignored, and robbed.

They had to take my washer to their facility and then return it with the same problem. After 5 times of unsuccessful attempts to fix it, I had to call AHS to let them know I am entitled to have my washer replaced for a new one if they can't repair it, according to our contract. That call was 2 weeks ago, AHS hasn't call me back with any update. Useless to describe the 45 minutes up to 1 hour listening music as they are having a high volume of calls. I will reduce their volume by cancelling the 2 contracts I have with them. Corporations that grow so much turning their backs on their customers will regret it sooner or later.

I could not get a firm time commitment from anyone on when they would be here. First problem is very looong wait times up to and more than 1 hr sometimes. Be it on chat or phone. There is no email facility!!! I got my dishwasher repaired by a tech sent by AHS. He came first time, looked at my dishwasher, said he needs parts and when I asked him what the problem is, what is the reason, he doesn't seem to care and didn't gave proper answer. Looks like he was not interested. Then he came second time, repaired, did some tests and said "All done" and went away. After this I saw frequently the water used to stay in the dishwasher even after the cycle was done. Called AHS, they sent the same person who came. Pushed some buttons for diagnosis and finally said pump and everything is working fine. I told him, it's random for which he carelessly answered, "I don't see it." When I asked him again what should I do if it happens for which he said, "Contact AHS not me."
The same evening the issue came back. I went on chat with AHS and after 45 min wait, the lady "Denise" said, she is yet to receive the diagnosis and she will call in the diagnosis and I can contact AHS that same day evening then ask for disputing so that I can go to Sears. I asked for Sears folks to come and repair. I waited for 2 days and contacted AHS again over chat. The same name "Denise" answered. Now, I am on the phone waiting for more than 30 min at 9pm PST!!! And no answer yet. The op was supposed to call me back!!! There is no link to send email (I wanted to send the chat script asking for answers) and I didn't know where to go. I am thinking to go to small claims court to get my money back as I am feeling that both AHS and their contractor is misguiding me. I am wasting my precious time just in waiting and the minutes for my phone is wasted too.

In June of 2016, the unit is not working again and is completely out of Freon. It leaked 13 lbs of Freon!!! In a unit that is self contained, this should not happen. AHS sent contractor in June and said he could repair the coil. I tried to repeatedly call the contractor assigned and could not get in contact with them. In July I received a call from the contractor (Mindy) stating they could not locate a part. I then called AHS to ask what is going on since it's been over a month. AHS called the contractor and they changed their story and said the technician they sent was out sick and the paperwork was lost and they need to send someone else out.
I tried to call contractor many times to see when they were coming back, but can never get in contact with them. (I have phone records to show.) I just called AHS on August 4th to find out what is going on and they showed that the unit is repairable stating the contractor sent someone back to my home for a second look since the paperwork was lost. NO ONE came back to my home. The coil is in the attic and they never came into my home. Tried to call the contractor and they are not answering their phone. My first year with American Home Shield was excellent so I decided to renew my contract for another year, and my god that was a big mistake. At the time of renewing the sales person offered me a free service call. A few months back I decided to use that free service call and got something fixed with my garbage disposal. Little did I know that the fee that was supposed to be waived would be tacked onto my account as an unpaid balance, which would later become a tremendous issue. I have tried calling about this multiple times and trying to resolve it but the whole seems to be more than 58 minutes at a time or more.
A few weeks back my AC went out on me, and I paid the fee for the service call right away which was unpaid from that was supposed to be free according to the renewal of my contract and the notes of the sales agent that I spoke with. So as my AC broke down I tried to place the order through the Internet and it would not allow me to place a service call for the AC unless I paid the balance. So I decided to pay the balance and I will take it up with American Home Shield at a later time. Once I submitted the order I tried to call and follow up with the AC company. To my surprise nobody ever picks up the phone. Then I tried calling American Home Shield and the hold over there was so long that my phone finally disconnected after being on hold for 90 minutes.
So naturally with five kids at home, one being a newborn in the Texas heat, not having AC almost 3 days and not receiving a call from anybody from American Home Shield or the contract AC company, I went ahead and got it repaired myself. I kept the invoice and spoke to American Home Shield about it and they asked me to send it into claims department and that I would probably get reimbursed. I received a letter in the mail a few days ago and the claim was denied.
I really am not sure what kind of a company this is having hold times of an hour or more on the phone never being able to get a hold of somebody on the phone and finally when you do they're eager to hang up or disconnect the call. What do they seem to be charging us for? Please don't make the mistake of going with American Home Shield and shop around. Find a better company for yourself. I know I am very very disappointed with this company. Hope someone from administration reaches out to me, and rectifies the current situation.

They also sent an air-conditioning guy a couple of years ago. He was nice and did his job really great. Then when the old washer went out, they sent a man to fix it, but there's no way that he could and so I got reimbursed with the money and bought a dishwasher.
We've owned our house for over 20 years and we keep buying them because it's a good service. There is a lot of things that my husband and I can't do as we get older and it wasn't as expensive when we started it, so we would keep the insurance. My friend has American Home Shield warranty coverage for her non-working central air conditioning system in Florida. It is August in Florida and extremely hot and humid. She is living a nightmare without air conditioning in her bedrooms or parts of her downstairs' living areas for NINE WEEKS and it still hasn't been repaired.
The first service company called out was completely inept and incompetent. By the time American Home Shield was willing to call in a second company some eight weeks later ---- that's right ---- June and July in Tampa, Florida with NO AC the new company confirmed that the first company had completely botched the job and recommended a completely new system be installed. But then the new company declined to install the new system!! American Home Shield's response? My friend was told that AFTER NINE WEEKS WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING in half of her large home, "it's not an emergency that can be expedited because the temperature in your house isn't over 104 degrees". Run fast from this company.

We have had a spate of issues in the last 4 months (refrigerator, AC system, plumbing leak, washing machine, and a couple of other things I fixed myself). The AC and plumbing contractors' men were great. The washing machine repairmen were borderline rude and just wanted to get done and gone. The company the AC men came were non-communicative and just would not return calls, even after multiple emails and voicemail messages.
A larger issue, however is trying to contact AHS. Being on "hold" for an hour (!), especially when you're trying to get something done is not only frustrating. It is maddening. The CS reps at AHS are great (even if one did make a mistake and start a new request when it was a continuation of an existing request). They understand and empathize with me when I pour out my troubles on them. And the response is outstanding, usually within an hour. I have an email of a selected contractor to address the issue at hand. AHS customer service would get 5 stars if the "hold" time was not so long, and it's not their fault. AHS needs to address the larger issue there.

I submitted my request online and had a response from the contractor within 2 hours. They worked around my schedule and arrived at my home on time. The problem was resolved quickly and the issue was explained to me very professionally. I was also told that what the cost and the wait would have been had I not had my AHS coverage. I have been with AHS for over 15 years and now even have my vacation home covered.

I have had American Home Shield provide my home warranty coverage since 2010. A year ago they would have had 4 or 5 stars. I do not know what is going on with the company but the customer service and the technicians they send out are just not as good as they used to be. It started with my Washer Machine back in March. It was making a horrible screeching sound. The tech came out, looked at the washer for about 5 min, ran it without water and diagnosed it as just a start switch. When I asked about the screeching he said it was overfilled or something. It was good to go. He told me that it was fine to use for now and I could expect the parts to be in within a week.
So I went to do laundry as he said I could and not only did the horrible screeching sound happen but my washer overflowed and flooded my laundry room, bathroom and went through my walls to part of my living room and garage. I called AHS and they did a recall and the tech came out and He said he did not touch anything - its not his fault. Then he shows me what he did before he just took off the front panel. When he took off the front panel to show me I saw metal shavings. I asked them if they were there before and he said yes. Really and its just the switch? Even I know that is because the bearing is bad. He also said the sensor that tells the washer how much to fill up is bad. He also said he was not responsible for misdiagnosing my machine. Had he filled it with water to run it through a cycle by thoroughly troubleshooting it he would have found that it was going to overflow.
Also he should have diagnosed the bearing from the metal shavings he saw the first time and did not tell me about. He still claimed no responsibility. It resulted in a second tech coming out because I did not want this guy to work on my machine. The second guy said it was the switch, water level sensor and bearing. He said I never should have been told to use the washer. Not only that he said while repairable it was not worth repairing. American Home Shield as long as it can be repaired will not replace regardless of the cost.
I ended up having to put the first tech on my do not use list and because neither he nor AHS would cover the clean up of my now flooded house I had to submit a home insurance claim which cost me a $1000 deductible. So instead of paying just my $75 I ended up paying $1697 for a new washer, home insurance deductible and service fee for AHS. It took over three weeks for my house to be put back to normal with over $5000 worth of damage as my house had to be dried out, carpet padding replaced, laundry room cabinet box and other repairs from the damage.
A week and a half ago I had to submit another service request through AHS. This time for my AC. After I submitted my request I receive an email that there may be additional charges if the AC System needs refrigerant due to increased cost of R22. They assign a company and I look the company up as I was already nervous after the quality of contractor that AHS used last time. Sure enough the company had 2.5 stars - most of the bad ratings from AHS and other home warranty company customers.
I contacted AHS and asked if they could send a different contractor out or even one I had before. I was told NO. See my AC breaks every two years it seems over the last six years. Four years ago the compressor. AHS was great in that instance. Why not send out the tech if available they used then? Two years ago the Fan motor, fan and capacitor went out and I fixed it myself as I have an AC background and it did not require getting into the part of the system with the refrigerant.
Late last week finally the tech comes out and it is explained to him what was going on and the items that had been replaced in the last six years since I have had this house. The tech was not here long. He checked some things and wrote up the compressor and fan motor. I am still leery about the diagnosis because they were both replaced in the last four years. Then I get a call yesterday that it is approved for parts to be ordered but that I am going to have to $540 for 9lbs of refrigerant. I asked why they were putting new refrigerant in my unit and the company said they do not put your R22 back in ever. This made no sense to me as usually you can reuse it and due to the increasing shortage of R22 as it is being phased out I was curious and think that $540 for refrigerant is excessive.
So we called around to three other companies and they said that unless the compressor is seized or has "Blown up" it is not necessary nor is it normal practice to replace R22. I called AHS and told them about this and asked what my options were, this after the contractor company I was dealing with had been rude. AHS told me I had two options. One cash out and be reimbursed for parts only, no labor and not the $10 per pound of R22 should I need it and I can go to anyone and get it repaired. But I have to foot the bill then be paid back. My second option was to ask for a second opinion and if the second person had a different diagnosis than the first I did not have to pay a second service fee. I might still be responsible for Refrigerant if the tech says they do not reuse. If the second tech finds the same problem as the first then I have to pay an additional $75 dollars for a second service fee.
I still do not have the final outcome on this situation but what I know is that I have two young children and young dogs who have been living in the house with no AC with last week's temperatures in the 100's and I still do not have a working AC and unlike previous years this warranty is not paying for itself and is instead starting to cost me more money. I wish AHS had the same great customer service and service providers they contract as they have the first five years I had the warranty. More than likely I will be looking for a new company especially if I continue to have issues until this AC repair is completed.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for years and this last time with my air conditioner, they were absolutely horrible. The air handler was not together properly and the door was off of it which had to be re-taped. It was an older unit but it's ridiculous that every week, they would send somebody else. The first person said one thing and was supposed to write a report which he never did. So they said that they can’t do anything until they get a report from him. Then they sent somebody else to check on the first guy and he said it was something else. He said that there was water damage on the bottom which was from our sprinkler. He went to the sprinkler himself, turned them on to see they were nowhere near that. He said it wasn’t maintained properly which wasn’t true. It was really disappointing.
I called them all the time to ask when are they gonna come and fix this. It’s like 89 degrees in my bedroom. Fortunately, we have one of those roll-away air conditioners that we could use in an emergency but that was just for the master bedroom. But what ultimately happened here was, we hired our own person. He said it has nothing to do with maintenance. He also said that it's an older unit and that it’s very hard to get parts for it and the air handler. Bottom line was that we wound up buying a new air conditioner and air handler, and paying for and having it installed through Home Depot. And then I asked Home Shield if they would pay for the person that we hired to come over and they decided not to pay us for it. It was $267 out of our pocket.
Normally, I’m pretty satisfied with AHS. But I’ve had other times where they’ve been tenuous with people they send. A couple of years ago they sent somebody, one of the AC places – and I realize that not everybody is wonderful. They had worked on our air handler upstairs and they didn’t put the pan in correctly and it went through our ceiling. It was leaking right through our ceiling into our closet. They made good on that claim.

Recently, we had an air-conditioning issue and filing the claim online was easy. We’ve been fairly happy though it was delayed, but we understand. Air-conditioning issues are pretty common right now and I know all the air-conditioning people here are way behind. But once they got to it, they got it fixed very quickly and everything’s working great. The only thing is a lot of people that I know here specifically want somebody that they use and AHS can’t do that.

We bought this house and our insured home warranty was part of the purchase. There were quite a few things wrong that AHS took care of for us. We’re glad of that but we’re also concerned that they think we’re trying to take advantage of them because we’ve had quite a bit of stuff. The furnace, water heater and the air conditioner went bad. At first, they did mess up. I couldn’t understand why they got people from the Tri-cities 50 miles away when we have somebody here in Galesburg to do the work. But it all came out real well and we were very pleased with the service. The people that did the work were excellent. They replaced a big portion of the air conditioner and so far, it’s working very well and everything that they’ve done for us has been very good.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield about my air condition last week, and they sent CMR to work on it. CMR gave me a window, which was at 8:00 to 12:00. I took off work that day and waited but I had a meeting at 1:30 so I left at 1:00. 15 minutes later, they called me and said somebody was at my door. I told them I wasn't at home and they said, "Oh, well, you missed your appointment." It's just a phone call to say technician was running late. I called AHS back if they could send someone else then they put me on hold for 30 minutes. They came back and gave me CMR again. That's frustrating.
CMR called me and left a message that they're giving me window of 8:00 to 12:00. I called and told them I got their message and that the schedule would be fine for me. I didn't go to work that day, but no one from CMR showed up. I called about 12:30 and they said I didn't approve the 8-12 window time. I told them I called and the woman said they'll be having somebody come the following day.
The gentleman came the next day and he went up in my attic and asked me if I had someone work on it. I said there was somebody from CMR a year ago for the same reason. He said that that person who worked on it didn't hook back up something, maybe ran out of things and didn't want to come back. He even took a picture and showed it to me and told me it was because of this that I was having a problem with my a/c. So he hooked it back up and was here for only 10 minutes. I still paid him the $75 even though I already paid $75 for the first one who came but didn't do the job.

Additionally, their service fee to come out and the pricing through their contractor was higher than me looking independently. And in addition to that as well... my independent contact is arriving much sooner to help my 90 degree house here in Arizona. This company is a scam a far as I'm concerned. After repeated visits from the contractor that could not fix the issue I call AHS back to request someone else to fix the problem and they would not help me in any way. AHS does not care about their customers and lacks any capacity to get anything done.
UPDATED ON 08/11/2016: My AC went out so I called AHS. It took a long time to get a company to contact me. One came out and failed to find the problem. They refilled the refrigerant to get system to work. 3 weeks later the system failed again. The same company came out and diagnosed it as a faulty TXV which I told AHS was not the problem and that I wanted a different company. They refused to send a new company so my only option was to let them do the work which failed within 5 days. I spent hours on the phone once again trying to get AHS to get a new company out that could actually fix the issue but they would not because AHS will only switch if the company reports in that they can't fix the system.
I reported to AHS how horrible the company was and how my 10 month old baby has been stuck without AC most of the summer because of this incompetent company. But AHS Employees do not care about their customers. They read from a book and put no effort into finding any solution. My request was very simple - send a different company out to fix the problem. The company they sent is a horrible and AHS is getting this review because they back this company instead of backing their customer. If you get AHS Expect 20-40 Min on hold before speaking to anyone followed by very unhelpful employees. I Would not recommend AHS to anyone.

My wife contacted them and waited hours and hours on the phone. She was advised that they was way behind and would have a contractor in our area contact us for service. I was with my wife when she was told someone would be coming 2 hours away to look at our unit. She asked them to cancel the service call from a unknown contractor, then she got a email stating that someone in our area was not available. Upon arrival of the local contractor he never went under our home nor did he even look inside the unit. The unit is too big he advised without even going under our home or taking even one piece off the unit and advised us they would not pay to replace the unit with it running. However the unit works it is very old and there is no air flow. At that point we pay him the 75.00 dollars and he advised he would contact them first thing Monday morning.
I had also advised the contractor that the unit was making the lights dim, very dim when it kicks on and he said that is normal so I asked if it was a fire hazard and he advised he was just a HVAC contractor. My wife was contacted the following Monday with a lady that advised our claim was denied. Our unit was not the right size and that we had several contractors look at the unit. Now the question I have is why would we have contacted them if we had others look at the unit and why would I pay 75.00 for someone to stand and talk and walk thru the house and say "You do not have enough air flow" which was the reason we contacted them and that my wife and I did not feel safe with the lights going dim when the unit kicked on with a knock when it would shut off. I was told by the realtor that listed the house this warranty would be including in our purchase and was a great company so my wife also got additional coverage.
Here is my thoughts. Why pay someone 75.00 to go back and advise what they thought was wrong and it was not covered and I can assure you he would not be the contractor I would ever use. I thought this company was actually based out of Memphis which is in the state we live. I have heard several other people advise that this is the worst company to get anything done. With that being said for my own personal experience we will be advising others not to waste the time or money for this warranty. I am wondering if anyone has reported them to the BBB. I see all the good reviews listed but honestly I know others have had problems with this company.

During that process cs reps went as far as to cancel appts without notice to cancelling warranty without notice. The current service request is not going much better. Called on Sunday to request service - could not even get through to a person. Repeated attempts to reach a person were met with attitude of indifference. I have checked online reviews and found more good than bad. I'm sorry to say my opinion of AHS is not very high right now, but with no AC in the Texas summer with no definite resolution in sight it's difficult to be optimistic.

I purchased an AHS warranty recommended by my real estate company on a recent home purchase. 12 days into ownership I had an A/C failure on an upstairs unit with temps nearing 100 degrees. We have now been 20 days as of the writing of this and the units have still not been repaired. We have had 2 questionable contractors to the house and to date neither has completely diagnosed the issue. One says compressor is out. The other said being out of freon is causing the noise. The one who found the leak showed up as a second opinion and was not prepared to look for a leak, came back a week later and located line that has rubbed in the chassis for the outside unit over years of operation. Second tech mentioned that unit was resting in dirt and that caused the issue. Unit is on a concrete slab. Has been on a concrete slab since it was installed.
I would venture to guess but an AHS agent has decided they have something in writing they could use not to repair the rubbed line. They will not accept pictures of the unit instead they have taken the word of a 20-year-old kid who has never had any formal training other than OTJ training. Nice kid but was clearly in over his head. Had to call every step of the way to talk to a tech to find out what to do next.
As mentioned before they do not seem to use licensed and bonded contractors only the fly by night contractors. Neither so far was in a vehicle with their name on it, neither could provide ID that said why they worked for and neither so far has been able to repair this system. You can see in the picture the condensate tube has been pulled loose from the contractors working around the units, that is where the water around the units is coming from. My resolve here would be for a competent contractor to be sent out in a timely fashion and repair this unit in a single visit. Enough is enough.

They select what they’ll repair. So now I have to spend $6,000 to get a brand new air conditioning unit. When I called to find out why they wouldn’t pay for it, they kept referring me back to the contractor, who kept telling me that the compressor had been hit by a power surge. And as a result, AHS won't repair my AC. I haven’t heard from AHS as to why they won’t pay it.
I did the initial service call online and the contractor provided AHS with his diagnosis of what was wrong. And because the compression unit was hit by a power surge, it’s no good. The system is 20 years old so it’s not a matter of replacing the compressor. The whole unit has to be replaced because it has to be brought up to the standards of now. I’m just disappointed that AHS warranty didn’t cover this service. The purpose of customers getting these warranties is for situations like this. I can’t control a power surge as it is not something that I purposely did. I really feel bad the AHS wouldn’t honor the warranty and replace the system as needed in order to get it up and running.

The most recent claim I filed with AHS was the air conditioning on my downtown house. I filed the claim online and it was very easy, with the contractor getting touch with me pretty fast after the claim submission. The contractor is very nice and his response is good. I had two air conditioners and they both had problems, so he fixed both of them in one whole day. He diagnosed and fixed the problem immediately - he said the most common problem of air conditioners is that its capacitor goes out.
I used other services before, like the Mason Home Warranty, and I find AHS to be the best one. Not that the other agencies aren't any good, but particularly for Mason Home Warranty, this motto applies: the small print taketh what the big print giveth. Meanwhile, AHS covers what it says it covers. They are also very flexible. For instance, I want to replace a certain appliance for a better model - AHS allows upgrade. They'll buy the better model wholesale and I only have to pay the differential. It's a very good feature to have. I'm happy with AHS' very good and efficient service.

I submitted a claim to AHS online for my dryer to be repaired. And it took several days, no one called me. I ended up calling them. But once I got in touch with the repairer, it was not a problem. Their techs came out on Monday and the service was great. They came in, did a pretty thorough assessment of the situation and explained to me what was wrong and took care of it rather quickly. I have my dryer back so it’s a good thing. It was a great experience.

The garage door wouldn't open and close. Then, I called Home Shield over the phone. The reps were nice and then the contractor came out to fix a garage door for us. He was very nice and helpful and explained to me that the part that wasn't working on it wasn't covered. But, then, we had a keypad there that wasn't working either, and he said he could fix that and that would be covered, so, I said, "Great!" I'm very thankful to him for pointing that out because it's wonderful to have it back in use now. He's fixed the garage door too at a reasonable price even though it wasn't covered. I'd recommend AHS to others.

We have contacted American Home Shield now three times related to AC repair, and it is yet to be addressed. First is the incredible wait on the phone for a representative and then no action. Second is identifying a firm to fix the unit. Thus far both identified have not provided service for one reason or another. PLEASE NOTE: It appears that American Home Shield deals with "jackleg" repair companies, ones that cannot get any business any other way. I've asked if they deal with any of the top three in our area and the answer is an emphatic NO. One recommended was 1.5 hours away and said they didn't service our area. Apparently, American Home Shield could care less.
Third, American Home Shield says that a mutually agreed time but thus far we've been presented with the option of one of three days anytime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. I indicated that we needed a specific time as my job has me traveling and was told that was it, and if I couldn't meet their time they would cancel the order which they did. In talking to American Home Shield I asked, "Do you prefer the unit to die such that you'll have to replace that vs. just repairing?" and the AHS agent said, "That's an option." They are the worst I've ever dealt with. I consider them a rip-off and an unethical company.

They have been out to fix our AC 5 times. We live in Florida and have a 3 yr old and 10 month old twins. Every time they come out they need to order a part and it takes a week to get. Or, they say they need to order a part, don't do it and send someone else out. They have filled our freon all 5 times. It's constantly draining and bad for the environment and then they "fix" it and it works for 3-4 more weeks before breaking. The AC company they use blames AHS and AHS blames the AC company. The AC is clearly broken and they can't fix it long term but they won't give us a new one. I still don't have air. It takes the AC company 2 days to even come out and assess the problem. It is July in Florida and the kids and all of us can't sleep. Do not buy this useless warranty.

I have had two open service orders open for over 6 weeks. Unqualified service providers, keep bandaid fixes, needing of spare parts and then not having time to fix them. My complaint is the wait for both myself and the service provider. I have called everyday for the last two weeks to get updates and have waited more than an hour everyday. Then they finally pickup and you hear all the people in the background laughing and partying after waiting for over and hour. The impression I get is that there is a room full of people who know nothing about the business or could careless about the customer. They are there for a paycheck to meet a quote of calls picked up. If you ask to speak with a manager they just pass the call to the next open phone answerer, which took another 20 minutes.
I spoke with both contractors and they experience the same experiences. AHS also does not listen to the contractors. One of mine contractors recommended a replacement and AHS told them no, to try and fix and now 6 weeks later AHS has agreed to replace the unit. Also please note this is not a true replacement service. The limitations still cost the consumer monies on top of the contractor service fee and your monthly charges. No problem taking your monthly fees on time. Too bad satisfying your customer isn't as efficient.

Weird smell in house turned out to be leak in sewage pipe. AHS paid (minus deductible) for plumber, but we were out over $1200 for sewage clean up. (Please note the first plumber that came out was not qualified for the job, and a second plumber had to come out. Both plumbers required deductibles for the SAME job.) After clean up (which we, the homeowners, had to pay for) and pipe repair, the smell still lingered. We have had several people in trying to get rid of the smell.
This past week we discovered the "repaired" pipe is leaking again, and now we are responsible for another deductible and $2000 for additional sewage clean up. This is totally unfair given that the job was supposed to have been fixed at the end of May, and at the end of July we discover it was not done properly and we will have to pay twice for sewage clean up for the same situation. This is costing us over $3500 for a problem we have been trying to get fixed since April. And it is now July 31st. This has been an absolute nightmare.

My air condition wouldn’t shut off so I put a claim online. I was having trouble getting a hold of the contractor who was supposed to come out here. I got mad because the contractor called me when I submitted the claim. It was a woman from their office and told me that someone would be out in a couple of days. The only problem is no one ever showed. I ended up trying to call that office with the phone number that they had, and that was a bunch of crap. I kept getting this recording telling me, “That if you’re an American Home Shield customer push #1.” I pushed #1 like a thousand damn times. And all they kept saying on that recording was that somebody would get back to me, and nobody ever got back to me. So this went on for about a week.
And then I got a notice from American Home Shield telling me that the contractor tried to call me on several occasions therefore they were canceling that call. So I called American Home Shield and I told them, “Wait a minute. Nobody ever called me.” It all turned into mess. The rep straightened it out. He reassigned it back and got through. He was great. And I got another guy from the same company. I was hoping they wouldn’t, but they sent the same damn company out. The guy came out and said everything was fine, but I still have the same problem. It still goes into the same mode every now and then. It cost me $70 and it was never fixed. But other than that claim, I’ve always been satisfied and extremely happy with AHS. I've been with them for a long time (for 9 years) and they give good service. I've recommended AHS to many people. This is the only time I’ve had a problem where I’ve been dissatisfied with them.

Our air conditioner was not cooling very well and it was making a funny noise. I called AHS and realized it was a Sunday but they were able to get somebody out that afternoon. The guy came out and it was our fan that had gone out along with some other part. The guy didn't have the bracket that fit one fan onto our air conditioning system. The one they had was not right and it wouldn't fit. He initially said he might have to order this part. He also said, "Let me see what I can do."
He ends up working with it for about an hour and he got the old one off the back part and had put it on the new one so that it would fit. He had retrofitted it to fit my unit. He went through the extra trouble of making it fit so we wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. And I made some comment to him about working on Sunday. He said they usually don't and they'd send them out on emergencies or if somebody is sick. But I said, "that wasn't the case today." He said he wasn't doing anything. That was exceptional for the air conditioning folks to do these kinds of things. Especially when he said he thought we're gonna have to order the part, I knew it was gonna be a week or so without an air conditioner. But he was very nice, informative, and he explained to me as he went along so that I, a layman, would understand.

It works and they said it should be fine, but it has revolutions of 10 or so much less than what it was already getting and I don't know if that’s affected the amount of air that’s getting pushed to my house. Other than that, I've never had a problem filing a claim to American Home Shield. Their technicians were very knowledgeable and knew what they were doing. They’ve all been decent and good. Long story short, our first service call to American Home Shield has resulted in our air conditioner not being fixed, and our family owing the local furnace guy $700. This will obviously be the end of our subscription as a customer to this fraud shuck. I've written the fine print here, so you don't have to find it yourself: "AHS is not responsible or liable for covered item repairs or replacements when a malfunction is due to: misuse, abuse, or mistreatment, including but not limited to removal of parts and damage, by people, pests, or pets; accidents, fire, freezing, water damage, electrical failure or surge, or excessive or inadequate water pressure; lightning, mud, earthquake, soil movement, storms, or other acts of God; acts of war or terrorism; or a manufacturer's improper design, materials, or formulations; a defective manufacturing process; or other manufacturing defects."
"AHS is not responsible or liable for special, secondary, incidental, indirect, consequential, exemplary, or other related damage resulting from the malfunction of any covered item, or AHS' or a service contractor's neglect or delay in providing, or failing to provide, repair or replacement of such covered item, including, but not limited to, food spoilage, loss of income, utility bills, additional living expenses, or personal and/or real property damage." Basically it says, "We aren't responsible for anything" and "When the cheapest contractor we can find ruins your stuff, we aren't responsible for that either."

I had American Home Shield come out and do my pool, refrigerator, A/C and dryer. I submitted the claims by calling them and about eight to twelve hours or less than a day, the contractors contacted me. It was quick. The highlight would be I had work done on my pool and they came out the very next day and fixed the problem. They did a fantastic job and everything was great. They also fixed my refrigerator. They got the correct part ordered and they did that in no time. Within two or three days they had that thing fixed.
But the service for my dryer and A/C were terrible. They could never fix my dryer and they keep having to order different parts. They came out today, ordered the wrong part again for the fourth time in a row, and still not fixed. They came out about five times on my AC and never fixed it. So I ended up replacing the whole AC myself and AHS couldn't do anything until the contractor come out six times. AHS has a contract that the contractors are allowed six times to come out to correct the problem. I think that's extreme on AHS's side. If they can't handle it maybe the second or third time, they should try somebody else. But they don't give that option. So I've been dissatisfied with that especially when I got a nine-year-old little girl in the house and I have no AC, and it's 110 degrees outside.

Our refrigerator stopped working wherein it wasn't cooling. My wife called to put in a claim and talked to a rep from American Home Shield personally. Submitting the claim was not a problem and their reps have been accommodating to a certain extent. The problem, however, was AHS used a repair shop that was not a very reputable. It was a family-run business and was a small operation. I looked them up online to see what their ratings were and there were a lot of complaints about bad service, taking too long, and all sorts of things. Also, when I called to set up an appointment with them, it was quite a few days in advance and they also told me it was going be four days before they could come out and look at it.
In the past, we were connected by AHS to a company that was less than reputable like this one and we had problems with it so I decided to not even mess with it. I figured it wasn’t going to work. So I went ahead and called Sears and had their appliance service come and take care of the problem with our refrigerator. We've been with American Home Shield for 15 years and they've been good most of the time especially if when we had really big problems like with a water heater or an air conditioning unit. Meanwhile the supplier Carrier National said the part order number is not even on order. AHS will not put you through to anyone who can help you. They will continue to stall and take your money. American Home Shield is a joke! I have had this service for 8 years and have had nothing but problems over and over. The wait is so unreasonable! You can be on hold for literally over an hour at a time. When you do get through they are not helpful. Just want to make excuses. My last call was to service AC. I placed a service order and was called the next day to schedule service a few days later. Last minute with no warning it was transferred to another contractor. I had no idea it was transferred because I had actually gotten a text they were on their way to my house.
After several hours of waiting, around 8 pm I saw an email that notified of the transfer. The new contractor called me Friday morning and said they are confused as to why it was sent to them as they were a week out for calls. Tried all day to get through to AHS but like always wait time was way too long and I do have a job. Finally talked to someone at AHS and was told there is nothing they can do and I should have called earlier. I explained I did but could not get through. They will not take my word for it that the new contractor is back up. Why would I make that up especially after I had already patiently waited 3 days with the prior contractor.
Now it is Friday evening and the temperature in my house is 90. AHS is unwilling to provide me an override so I can find someone on my own and get reimbursed. I did everything I was supposed to do and still no services rendered. I cannot help that AHS cannot handle their call volume or who they contact with. But am on the losing end of it. I went to BBB for reviews and found they had an F rating and many, many complaints. I shared all of this with AHS and was told they didn't care about Internet reviews and also that since the Provider is closed on the weekend, their 48 hour support time frame was within the contract agreement. I was also eventually told by AHS that this was the only HVAC provider in my huge metropolitan area. I finally called a local provider on my own and they came that day and fixed my unit. They shared with me that many reputable providers won't work with them any more because AHS doesn't want to pay them.
Prior to this experience, I had a plumbing issue and the plumber told me my problem wouldn't be covered by my plan. He wouldn't take the payment I had ready for him for my deductible. AHS still charged me the deductible and when I contacted the plumber, he stated that was AHS policy to charge when he would never charge for not doing any work. I cancelled my contract with them and just got a maintenance plan on my HVAC unit instead.

I have had a contract with AHS for years and I pay a hefty sum for it. Since I purchased the contract, AHS has always been very timely in addressing service requests. This time it involved my water heater. My water heater is 17 years old and had never given me any problems. I was told by the plumber that it needed to be replaced. AHS immediately called and informed me that mine would not be covered because the damage was caused by a "secondary source". It is important to note that there is no damage to anything but the water heater.
I had two other plumbers take a look at the water heater and both agreed that it needed to be replaced but both also stated that the damage was due to normal wear and tear (remember it is 17 yrs old). AHS stated that the damage was due to an improper leak in the roof even though there is no damage to the roof, no evidence of a leak, etc. I guess in summary, AHS is fine as long as you only need a repair. This is the first time I have had to replace anything and they have not come through for me even though my contract covers the water heater in its entirety. When I expressed my concern to the representative, all the cheerfulness and courteousness was gone. If this is not resolved to my satisfaction, I am gone as well.

Neither has been completed to my satisfaction. For the first, the contractor told me to buy another one since it was 10+ years old. For the second, my dishwasher was not leveled and has not been for at least 6 years and it operated fine. My issue had to do with it not draining and a smell coming from it. He told me I would have to have it leveled before he could work on it. I told him it worked fine for years without being level and he stuck to his same reply.
Both cost me $125 for 5-minute visits. I'm not happy with them anymore. No contact from AHS and calls to them did not change anything. I'm currently looking for another home warranty service. AHS should call within 24 hours if there was no work done or work was not performed. This is never done anymore. Hold times are horrible for assistance.

The contractor was very nice and was good at being consistent since they had to come one time then come back to fix it, then come back a third time. My units now have been working better than they have in quite some time. However, I had to pay $750 over my warranty because of the freon. I knew it wasn’t totally covered, but I didn’t realize it took that much to fill the unit so it came out a lot more out of my pocket than I thought. But from reading the contract I understand that they did their part. Other than that, it was a good experience.

We have been loyal customers to AHS for over 12 years and as in the past, we requested to have a HVAC technician (on 6-28-16) to come out and look at our air conditioner unit (which is located in the attic of our two story home) because we began to experience water leaking from it. This job was assigned to McGovern Mechanical.
July 5, 2016 - McGovern Mechanical made their first visit and they discovered the problem with our ac unit which was that a band that holds an evaporator coil had broken and caused the ac unit to lean. This caused the leaking; therefore, the ac unit would have to be readjusted and the band reattached. However, the technician stated this was a two man job and he would have to come back with a helper to complete the job. At that point Mrs. asked if it would be the next day, 7-6, and was told they could not guarantee when they would return but at the latest it would be the 7th. Mrs. made a phone call to Mr. (who was at work at the time) and he asked the technician why it would be the 7th when they had already started the job and they already knew what the problem was and the potential solution. The tech stated he had to go back to the office to determine when another tech could come back with him.
July 6, 2016 - At approximately 1:30 Mrs. called McGovern Mechanical to inquire about the next appointment because no one from their company had contacted us up to that point. Mrs. had a doctor’s appointment on 7-7 and wanted to only confirm when they would be back. Upon making contact with the office of McGovern, she was placed on hold and forwarded to another person. Mrs. reiterated her concern and asked again when they would be back and tried to confirm that the first tech would have a helper with him. At this point this second person very curtly and abruptly (while using the first name of Mrs. without her permission) answered, “Yes ___, two people would be back to repair the ac unit tomorrow.” Then this person hung up the phone which was very unprofessional and rude.
July 7, 2016 - At approximately 1:00 the two technicians from McGovern arrived at our home. In less than 30 minutes they worked in the attic and Mrs. was told that the repairs were completed. They received the $75 deductible check, which meant to us that everything was 100% repaired and they left. With the knowledge that the repairs were completed, we ran the air conditioner as we normally would in these summer months.
July 8, 2016 - Upon awakening this day to our surprise, not only had the water returned but the leak had intensified at least two-fold. Mr. called AHS to report this issue and a new company (Best Care Home Service) was assigned the job. July 9, 2016 - Best Care arrived at approximately 2:00 one technician diagnosed the problem stating again that it was the coil and to his surprise and disbelief a book from our attic, unbeknownst to us, had been used to prop up the ac unit!!! The Best Care technician contacted his office, who in turn contacted AHS and declined to get involved at this time because of their findings in our attic. AHS communicated with Best Care Home Service that they would reassign the job back to McGovern to correct their mistake.
July 12, 2016 - At approximately 10:00 a.m., the owner of McGovern (Paul) returned to our home to take another look at the work that had been previously done by his technicians. Upon completing his investigation, he reported that a new coil, along with new drain pipes and pan, would be required in order to prevent further leakage. He further stated the he saw a book under the ac unit. He began to blame The Best Care Home Service tech and said that the strap that had been put on by McGovern techs had been detached, possibly by the Best Care tech. This timeline does not make sense because the leak had returned BEFORE the Best Care tech came to our home.
Additionally, according to the McGovern techs it was a TWO MAN job and Best Care tech was alone and was not here long enough to have done that. When we questioned Paul about that matter, he stated that Best Care is known for those less than best practices. We are NOT interested in the blame game. We only want our problem to be permanently and efficiently resolved! Paul left our home to contact AHS again to get further instructions as to what is the next thing to do. He stated it would take about an hour to upload his findings to AHS.
July 14, 2016 - We had no word from AHS nor McGovern by this date so we called AHS only to find out that McGovern had NOT submitted his findings to AHS. This is negligent on their part. AHS assured us that McGovern would contact us to complete the job. July 18, 2016 - McGovern contacted us and set an appointment (date and time). It was scheduled for July 19th between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to complete the work. July 19, 2016 - McGovern did not show up NOR DID THEY CALL! July 20, 2016 - STILL NO SHOW OR CALL but Paul Davis Company (a restoration company) came out and began to dry out the walls downstairs. They have torn down walls, uprooted part of our hardwood floor and carpet too.
July 21, 2016 - We contacted AHS to request the mail and/or phone number for Robert Gillette, CEO of AHS so this problem can be submitted to his desk.A customer service representative named “Delisha” review their records of this problem. Afterwards, she then stated she would refer it to her manager and request he/she call us back. By this point we had requested to speak to a manager several times but had not been able to do so.
July 22, 2016 - A manager of the Authorization Department by the name of “Jill” contacted us. After I explained this complex and lengthy situation to her she stated she would “see what she would do.” I stated we had been told that many times and her words offered no comfort. She stated she would contact “Contract Relations”. This was a Friday so I expressed my frustrations that we would have to go at least 2 more days with this not having a resolution, meanwhile water is further destroying our property, and the case has stalled AGAIN instead of being pushed ahead and labeled an emergency! I stated we still wanted to contact Robert Gillette but was not given his contact information. I further stated we do not trust McGovern and really do not want them back inside our home.
July 25, 2016 - Another technician from McGovern came and REASSESSED the AC unit and left saying he needed to order the parts to repair it. July 26, 2016 - “Mary” from AHS’ Authorization Department called and gave an itemized account of the parts needed and the total cost which came to $1565 would be required to pay McGovern at our expense because these parts are not covered in our policy. Feeling very dismayed, all I could say was ok. We hung up after she approved McGovern to do the job.
I realized I forgot to find out when they would come by so I immediately called back. This time I spoke with “Tracie”. She said it may be Saturday but needed to check her system to see they worked on the weekends (at my request). After checking her system she could not verify whether they worked on Saturdays so she put me on hold to call McGovern to find out. Tracie clicked back over to me after a brief hold and reported a “Terry” of McGovern stated she was going to put in the order as soon as they hung up (I thought it had been placed the day before after McGovern’s tech said he left to place the order).
Tracie also stated that she made McGovern aware (also at my request) of my window of being off work was closing. I am a teacher and we report back to work August 1st. I reiterated my frustration over all of the delays. We are to be called with an appointment when the order is received. Later we found out it was scheduled for August 1 anyway!!!
July 27, 2016 - We called AHS to request a “cash out” so we can just have the unit replaced instead of repaired. At this time (5:11 p.m. CST) we are waiting for their response. We were told it could take anywhere from 25 hours to 48 hours to reply. On this date we actively started seeking legal counsel to represent us in the matter. We feel if it had truly been repaired the first time, we would not have suffered all these problems: collapsed ceiling, damaged walls, ruined photos of our children when they were young, mold, etc...
July 28, 2016 - We called the Authorization’s Department this evening to check on the status of our cash out request and were told it would now be at least a week just to get us the information from today because they backlogged. And the leak drips on… We have pictures to prove the condition of our home, the red book holding up the unit, mold, destroyed photos etc because of the negligence of McGovern but I am unable to upload them.

I thought I was satisfied with AHS. I came from Choice Home Warranty because Choice misrepresented what they covered. I turned in a claim with AHS for my central air. The contractor that came out attempted to throw me under the bus. Really made me think the contractor worked for AHS. Based on what the contractor stated to AHS, I was told my problem was pre existing. However, if it were pre existing I would have had CHW repair the claim. I have been covered by one or the other for over 5 years. First I will never use that contractor and I was considering him for a heating and cooling yearly contract and 2nd, I am considering a different company to take care of my home warranty. There are certainly enough companies out there. I just need to find the one that works for me. I am willing to pay, I just want a home warranty where there isn't any tiny print excluding basic items.

We've submitted few claims over time with American Home Shield, normally online, and didn't have a problem with it. The contractors they've sent have been pleasant. We had an issue with our dishwasher and I think there were four visits by repairmen in order to finally get it fixed. I suppose that's because they had to try various things. Overall, AHS has been responsive to both issues that we’ve had in the past and has met their obligations under the warranties. We’ll probably renew with them again.

My last claim went as well as it could. For the most part, my experience with the AHS contractors have all been positive. We've all gotten to know most of the people that they usually send and if I had a preference in plumbers, for example, the people that come are usually from a certain company I like. We had something recently that wasn't covered that I was surprised about but I understand. Other than that, we're very pleased with their service.

I am totally dissatisfied with American Home Shied. I have been with them for almost 4 years now and this is only the second claim that I have made. In May, my air conditioner went out. I called to open a service call. AHS was prompt and efficient in getting someone to come out and diagnose the problem. The A/C people came and of course had to order a part. It was only a bracket that broke, no big or expensive ordeal. It took 3 weeks for the part to come in and of course it was the wrong one. Therefore, we had to wait another week in the agonizing heat. I was on the phone constantly with AHS and the contractor who both said that nothing can be done to rush the part, we just had to wait. We suffered almost a month with no AC, but we managed. We contemplated canceling our contract but decided to give them a second chance. Now my dryer won't come on so we opened yet another claim.
We called on 07/06 and AHS promptly sent PASSION SERVICE PRO, LLC to make any necessary repairs. Well, Passion Service Pro came out on 07/11 and of course told us that parts (the timer and an internal fuse) needed to be ordered. They said that they would call when the parts were in and set up an installation time. Two weeks go by and no one called. So I call them and lo and behold the parts have been in for a while. So they set an appointment for today the 28th. And guess what, they are completely the wrong parts. And to top it all off, when I call the PASSION SERVICE PRO office to complain and find out when they can return, they started over-talking, almost to the point of yelling at me with an attitude and blaming AHS for ordering the wrong parts. Both are blaming each other. I would not recommend PASSION SERVICE PRO to anyone and I am cancelling my contract with AHS. Two service calls screw-ups in a row is ridiculous.

Just today, I spent nearly THREE HOURS on the phone. I've been promised twice today that an AHS person would be calling me right back or would be picking up my call as I wait. DID NOT HAPPEN! I'm a tired old man. My a/c is not working. I'm in a record heat wave. The last person I talked to at AHS hinted to me that the contractor is not willing to accept what AHS "usually pays" for the required service. Interesting to me is that all hours of the day, AHS is "experiencing unusually high call volume." Tomorrow's Friday. No service in this "customer service," at least not so far.

We started having problem with our GE Profile refrigerator-freezer/fridge not working early this year 2016. It took three trips and 4 weeks waiting period before AHS techs could figure it out and repair it. Early in July the problem started again and it took 10 days after we reported the problem for a tech to come and 12 days to order parts and come back for installation. After installation the tech did not test it to see if it worked. He left and told us to unplug it for 48 hours. After 48 hours we plugged it to find out that it is not working. We called and it took them another 8 days to come and the tech said the new part he ordered did not work and asked the company to give us option.
I called the company today 07/28/16 and after hold for nearly 70 minutes they offered us $183.00 for us to add to buy a new GE Profile fridge that is retailing for $1,800.00 to $2,500.00. I could not believe that AHS could be this daft. This company is out there collecting people's money and not providing the service it is licensed to provide. It is just defrauding consumers and am reporting them to Texas Real Estate Commission that issued them license so that they may be aware what this company is doing out there in the field. AHS was very unprofessional and even hung up on us when we express frustration of having no heat with an infant in the house. The total lack of concern is disappointing for us who have been with AHS for 13 years!!! I really highly don't recommend investing in this warranty. We had called American Home Shield over an HVAC issue. We paid the $75 to have a company come out. We were having issues with our unit just completely stopping then starting again. The guy that came out was really annoyed from the start. He was mad he had to drive so far and stated that to us. He looked at it for about 2 mins and told us we need more freon. I told him the guy we had out prior said the same thing and that didn't fix the issue. He didn't really care what we had to say. This was in May, our warranty ended on June 1st. It's now July, our unit is completely dead at this point. And we now have to pay for an entire new unit. Over $5000, I'm sick to my stomach. We had 2 companies out through American Home Shield and neither fixed the problem. Now we're out of luck. Complete waste of service.

I knew it wasn't but the only alternative was to PAY for an a/c company to come out. AHS said that, if they came out and said it was the plumbing, I wouldn't have to pay a THIRD callout fee. How nice of them! In the meantime, I'm taking off of work to meet all these terrible "service providers". Of course, the A/C repair company said it wasn't the a/c and was the plumbing. The plumber came out again and said there was nothing wrong. THERE WAS WATER ON MY FLOOR AND A HOLE IN MY CEILING??? My own long-time handyman came and found the tub issue immediately. I find it easier to submit a claim over the internet. I just go online, go right in to the AHS website, put in the information, and click, click, and I'm done. I've spoken over the phone a couple of times with an AHS representative during the first year that we had the warranty and they were really nice. At the time, we had submitted a claim for both the AC and heat pump that went out. I called because it was taking a long time and we hadn’t heard anything back.
Then we had a claim back in June when we had some trouble with our air conditioning. It was working but not as well as it should have been. It was just running constantly and was not able to keep up as soon as it got very warm. The guy who comes out here from Basket's Repair is a real nice guy and very quick. As soon as he got out here, he took care of the problem right away and got it all straightened and done. The cost is a little more expensive than I would like for it to be, but we’re managing. We just don’t know what may happen with an older unit. I’m also afraid of who AHS contracts because we’ve had some shady dealings for other things.

American Home Shield then says they will repair it at a cost of $1200 to us. Replace compressor that will require all the coolest to be replaced, which is now on the customer. No right thinking company that does HVAC would recommend sinking over $1800 (our "cost" and then the compressor and labor) on an AC unit that is so old it is not worth the metal it contains. Basically, they get you to pay for a warranty, pay for a service visit, then work around doing the thing the technician said (replace the unit) by putting a ridiculous cost on the consumer. This company is fraudulent, plain and simple.

AHS contracts with cheap rate ac repair company that is so over loaded with repair orders from AHS, that you have to wait 30 mins on hold just to be able to talk to them. We are on repair #3 now. That is to say, we have had to have them out 3 times in a row. That is because the unit kept breaking, because the compressor was bad. Now, they have agreed to replace the compressor. We have been without our AC for 8 weeks and counting. At last report, after a 30 minute hold to get information, the ac contractor said that they were waiting on the new compressor on order. Which is bull crap, since any Yahoo with a checkbook can go to the local ac supply warehouse and buy one. If AHS was worth the money that we pay for coverage, they would allow us to use a local ac repair company and get this repaired in a timely manner.

Something must be happening at AHS. They used to be amazing. You would call on an issue at your home and someone would come out, check on the problem fix it and take your service check for payment and you were done. I have been dealing with an A/C problem all month. I made my service request for service on 7-4. I didn't have a service call until 7/11. It's an A/C issue. I live in Arizona. It's a little urgent. The service contractor, Consolidated Mechanical, came out and made a long list of issues that are wrong with my unit. He took my $75 service check payment and left. No fix to my problem. This technician claims there are missing parts to my unit, among other things which make it the reason why he couldn't "fix" it on this visit.
2 days later I received a call from AHS telling me it will cost $1200 to fix the unit! I had a serviceman come out last year around August for the same problem, and all it needed was a little Freon. No mention of any missing parts. This was the last time anyone looked at the unit. It was under warranty with AHS at that time too. I explained this to the customer service person that called and she stated she would get in touch with the former service company and then get back to me.
Today is July 27th and I have yet to receive a call. I have tried to reach AHS multiple times and no one has ever called me back. I have sent in a request via the website, and still no contact. I have sat on the phone for over an hour and no one picks up the phone. I have waited on hold for OVER one hour at least 3 times and no answers. I am currently on hold for the 4th time and it's been 39 minutes so far. I have had to resort to purchasing a window unit to make my home bearable and so things don't melt inside my home. It is 115 degrees outside. In the past, I had recommended AHS to family and friends, but they are having issues with them as well. I need resolve. This is unacceptable service.

I have had AHS for years and it is inevitable that if I have an issue it takes at least 60 min. to speak to anyone. Over the past 10 days we have had a broken air conditioner coil. The rest of the unit was fine. We were told that they would replace the unit vs the coil as they don't buy coils in bulk just units so for them it was cheaper; however I have to pay 1500.+ of my own money to have the unit installed which includes new ducts, drain pan and other pieces because the new unit will need new ones even though these are not broken. They are incompatible with a new unit.
They tell me they will not replace or cover the cost of unbroken things yet the unit they are replacing an air handling unit that is not broken (the motor etc is fine) just the coil is broken. Pretty inconsistent information and it will cost their customer 1500 to replace things that aren't broken because they can get a better deal on a unit vs a coil. In addition, this experience began with a 3-day wait to get a vendor out to our home plus 5 days to file the order to find out the unit would not be here for another 10 day. That is 18 days with no air conditioning where it is over 85 *F and we are expected to function with no reimbursement for the fans and blinds we have had to purchase.
I have replaced most of my appliances in a home that is 10 years old because the warranty company makes it challenging to get anything replaced (even after fixing it on numerous occasions). Lastly, they advised me that they have a new contract for me and it is not the one I have and therefore what I have always assumed I am covered for is not covered.

We had Innovative Air LLC (of Fort Worth TX) come out and they were friendly, but I quickly noticed that they were not there to fix the problem. They just wanted to get the system "back on its feet". Think of it like a Band Aid on a gunshot wound. The technician clearly said I had a leak in our coil, but "AHS would not replace my coil yet". All they did was put Freon back in the system (which AHS only covers $10 a pound for). Any other respectable contractor would have addressed the problem head on and not just "get us by for a while". So now, when the Freon inevitably leaks out again – I’ll be in the same boat. Who know when they will actually fix the issue??? I've put a call into the contractor’s office but no one has called me back yet. I would steer clear if I were you.

Another contractor was assigned (NICE AIR CONDITIONING INC) and came days later to diagnose the problem and said the condenser needs to be replaced. It took the contractor another week to contact American Home Shield with the diagnose and another two weeks to show for the repair with the wrong parts/equipment ordered on 7/14.
It has been almost two weeks now and the correct parts have not been ordered. I have been calling AHS every day after being on hold for 30 minutes with no updates on parts or the contractor's schedule. I have asked numerous times to either assign the work to a new contractor or cash out option and was told that per their policy, it cannot be done because parts were already ordered which by the way were the wrong parts. Meanwhile, AHS cannot get a hold of NICE AIR CONDITIONING and neither can I, because their voicemail is full. This week is the hottest week on record in in NY where my property is located. K&J would not return my phone calls therefore I was forced to reach them through the warranty company. The first week there was a delay getting the replacement part. For two weeks after, repairs were scheduled but no one showed up. Every time I called the warranty company a new repair time was scheduled until they finally did show up and repair the air conditioner but they charged my wife $150 more than the agreed upon price. I cannot recommend K&J Mechanical for repair of anything. They seem to be unprofessional or at least untimely and unresponsive.

First AHS sent a repair contractor not certified in Carrier Infinity systems. Two days later I called AHS to get a status update and they had not scheduled a certified contractor to troubleshoot my system. They found one when I was on the phone and scheduled his visit for the next day. The repair guy diagnosed the problem as a leaky evaporator coil. I was told that the part would be ordered and AHS would be calling to get acceptance of the repair.
3 days later I still had not heard from American Home Shield so I called again to get a status update. The AHS rep asked for the go-ahead of the repair, I accepted the terms and The Contractor (K&J Mechanical) stated that he was having trouble with his supplier for the new evaporator coil but he should have it by the end of the week. At the beginning of the next week I called K&J Mechanical, no one answered so I left a message. A day later I still had not heard back from K&J Mechanical so I called AHS. The AHS Rep called K&J and the Contractor said that I was scheduled for the coil replacement the next day between 7am and 11am. The repair guy from K&J showed up to the house without the coil. He thought he was there to look at our other A/C.
I called AHS because my call to K&J went to voicemail. AHS called K&J who said the part was on order and should be in by the end of the week. I told the AHS rep that we had already been waiting two weeks but the rep only replied that it should be repaired by Monday. It went on like this for another week and a half. I hear nothing about the repair so I call AHS, they call K&J Mechanical, and the repair gets pushed back three or four days.
Finally after almost 4 weeks I call AHS and they Call K&J and the repair gets scheduled and the repair guy actually shows up with the part and repairs it but states that he had to put more refrigerant in it than he expected so he charges $150 more than the agreed upon amount. I could not be there for the repair and my wife didn't know the agreed upon amount so she paid the bill. To their fault American home shield initially did not send out a certified repair company and didn't stay on top of the repair process allowing it to take 4 weeks to be resolved. As a policy holder with AHS you do not have any way to pressure the contractor to complete the repair.

I have been trying to reach customer service for three days. I am currently on hold for 45 mins. I had service on my dishwasher and it still isn't working properly. I've been unable to reach customer service from AHS and the repair company. I've had two companies come out, one was gentleman from All Valley Appliances. He was extremely rude and even lied about the condition of my appliance which caused AHS to deny coverage. I had to plead with AHS and they sent a nice gentleman from Active Appliance for a 2nd opinion. Needless to say I was able to get the service I needed on my dishwasher. However, I see that it is no longer covered on my plan? I'm sure this is a mistake because the parts that were ordered for my dishwasher were covered. So I need to speak to customer service for two reasons. My dishwasher is not working properly and it's also been removed as a covered item? Please help!

Trying to contact AHS is all but impossible. To get a service rep. is hours on the phone multiple times. I am questioning how effective AHS is when I am waiting 4 days for service on a refrigerator and at present waiting 7 days for ac service. My upstairs is topping 90 in the day time, AHS said that's not considered an emergency. Wondering if it's worth the money.

I had an excellent experience with American Home Shield. They were efficient and it was convenient and very thorough. I filed a claim for my air conditioning, and they ended up sending over two men and an electrician. First guy wasn’t able to do what he needed to do because it was an electrical issue that was affecting it. When the electrician came out, he said that he was going to put in the orders to have the air conditioning technician come out. It was a really smooth process. The people who came over here were very friendly. They told me I did not have to contact American Home Shield for anything and they would take care of sending a follow-up email to let them know if somebody else had to come out.

I recently submitted a claim over the internet because we were having garage door opener issues. The contractor called me first and gave me a number and scheduled an appointment. Someone came over and replaced a the circuit board, but that didn't work out, so they came in again and worked on the same issue, and so it's currently working fine.

Two weeks ago, we had our plumbing done on one of our restrooms. I did my claim to AHS online and it was an easy process. The contractor didn’t call us within 24 hours but we called AHS and the operator got in touch with the contractor. The next day they were out here to fix it and they did a really good job.

My most recent experience with AHS wasn’t very good. I had my dishwasher repaired and it's working good, but it took over a month to get it done. The company that did that sent a different technician every time. I understand that, but every time that they came for something that was not finished or was not repaired, they have to order the pipes. The pipes were not installed and they would take about a week to 10 days to get that installed. There were a couple of occasions where the parts were ordered wrong, so there has been additional delays of one week each time.
In addition to that, I believe that they may have changed parts that perhaps didn’t have to be changed. That is based on the fact that what ended up being the main part that was causing the problem was the last part that was repaired. And the other thing that I was disappointed with was that I never got a call from American Home Shield to know what was happening. I called and AHS called back the contractor, but I never got a call following that to see what was going on, or why it was taking so long.
The process of getting the contractor was good, as it didn’t take very long. The contractor after the call was made took about four to five days to get in touch with me. I was even the one who called them. But what was difficult was to get the repairman in a shorter time. I am still an AHS member (which I hope nothing breaks down in the immediate or in the near future). I'd like to give them another opportunity but that experience was not good at all.

I've been a customer with American Home Shield for about a year and it's been positive with them so far. AHS has been very good, on time, and rather quick about responding. In my most recent claim with them, part of the ice auger in the freezer section that dispenses ice for our refrigerator was broken, so it wasn't shoving the ice up. Submitting the claim was very quick and I always use the internet to do this. The company contacted me the same day and set up an appointment for when I was home. The contractor came out, went right to work and was able to find the problem within a few minutes, and took care of it. The only thing is that obviously they had to send the part off to the manufacturer to get a replacement. It's taking about a week to get it in, and they're coming out tomorrow to finish the job.

Last summer our A/C went out. I notified AHS. It was days before we got an appointment. It was more days before someone came. I think it was 8 days before our problem was repaired which I diagnosed correctly. A bad, commonly available, fan motor. Now, our A/C is out again. I got on the AHS web to report. It locked up. So, I telephoned AHS and it rang for half an hour and I gave up. I tried the web again and discovered my distress call actually went through and to be expecting a call from the repair folks within 24 hours.
It is now 24 hours. (I will now call them now). They are closed. Here we go again. I discovered before that these repair guys are not in my city of Lexington. They have to drive here from Louisville Ky which is 80 miles away! Hundreds of thousands people live HERE. The repair guys are sharp but they are swamped. There is no way they can do all the calls that are put to them.
AHS seems to me to have inadequate resources to deliver the services that they promise. Maybe that is why the website freezes up, why the telephone is not answered for over half an hour and why it takes more than a week to get an A/C repaired in Lexington KY. I called a local shop to come out 2 hours ago and they will be here tomorrow just shy of 24 hours of my call to them to fix my A/C (at my expense). Only if it requires a new unit will I fall back on AHS. Most A/C failures are usually just a $6 capacitor or a $21 contactor.
And after this is fixed, I am pulling the AHS plug. Too bad. I have been with them for ten years I guess. I even paid for it for my elderly retired secretary until she passed. They were great. Now, in my opinion, you are foolish if you give them your money. They don't deliver in my experience these days. Between AHS and these presidential candidates of Trump and Clinton I could not be more disillusioned.
UPDATED ON 08/02/2016: This is a follow up on my review last week. Still no air conditioning. We made the report on Monday last week. A technician finally came on Saturday evening. He said the compressor was bad but that AHS would have to approve the replacement. He said it hopefully would be fixed "some day next week". I emailed his firm this morning (Tuesday 8 days into no air conditioning) and they have not answered my request for some word on when we might expect relief. I am 66, having chest pains and going in to talk about a coronary artery x-ray dye test. We are expecting a heat wave this week. I asked in my email this morning to please put a health hustle on our job. No reply yet at 4 PM Tuesday. No word from the repair company or AHS since Saturday.

Our furnace broke down in September, so I called for service request and a company called AirPro and Heating came out to our house. They said the unit needed to be replaced, and it would cost us $1,600 dollars for all the items AHS didn't cover and they also couldn't install a high efficiency furnace. We called another AHS service provider and they said AirPro was ripping us off. They were charging us $800 for a 80% efficient furnace that AHS already covers. They also said they could do a high efficiency furnace but AHS would only cover $490 of the $3,400 bill.
I called AHS to see how it was possible that their cost were only $490 for a furnace and labor to install it. They said they buy at such a large volume, that apparently this is all of their cost. So I ended up paying thousands for this repair with my "insurance". Not only does AHS not cover items have no quality control over the vendors they send. Proceed at your own risk and get ready for a headache.

Contractor was American Mechanical Heating and Air. The contractor was very professional and efficient. Our air conditioning unit stopped working during one of the hottest weeks in Georgia's history. They were able to schedule a visit within the same week we called and also completed the work the same day. Our experience with the contractor and the staff who we spoke to to schedule the appointment was excellent from beginning to end.

I would like to shed a little light on Home warranty companies like American Home Shield and what you get when you believe you are doing the right things to be ready in case of an emergency. Our air conditioning unit went out on June 19th. I put in a work request with our home warranty company American Home Shield on June 20th and they assigned Carolina Air to the job on the 21st. Carolina Air came out to the house on the 23rd of June, stated the unit needed to be replaced and told my husband it would cost us $6500 to replace the unit knowing that the warranty company would actually purchase the unit. It took them until the 30th to send the diagnosis to American Home Shield and it was incomplete because they hadn’t done the load test.
Carolina air came back out to do the load test the following week (July) and it took them until the week of July 10th to get the load test to American Home Shield. According to American Home Shield Carolina Air stated it wouldn’t be until at least August 24th before they could install the new unit. In the meantime, my husband has been calling American Home Shield nearly every day to try to get a status update. It takes a minimum of 45 minutes of holding before you can actually speak to someone at American Home Shield. He asked to speak to a manager who of course had to call him back.
The first time a manager called him back, he was fortunate enough to be able to answer the phone. At this time they stated they were going to get their contract department to look into their contract with Carolina Air. We have yet to get a status on that. My husband again asked to speak to a manager and this time the manager called and he missed the call, but instead of the manager trying to call back as they left a message for him to return the call (the manager “doesn’t have a direct line”) knowing he would have to hold for a minimum of 45 minutes just to leave a message for the manager to return his call. It is my personal opinion that from the time Carolina Air initially came to the house they have been using stall tactics in the hope that we would get tired of living in a sweat box and just pay them to purchase and install a unit.
American Home Shield whom I pay monthly is not free of guilt either in my opinion. I feel that after it took 3 weeks to get everything from Carolina Air in order to order our new unit they should have been looking to find another contractor for the job. To add injury to insult Carolina Air claims that there will be a $1300 fee for “conversion” to include a concrete slab for the outside part of the unit. I understand all the fees except for the concrete slab. There is already a concrete slab that the old unit is sitting on and feel they have just tacked that on as a ploy to get more money. American Home Shield has also stated they will only reimburse us for one window unit at $75. I’m not sure where you can buy a window AC unit for 75, or one nights stay in a hotel.
We have a 2100 square foot home, my husband works from home, and I take online classes meaning we are home all the time. Had we not purchased more than one window unit we would not be able to work. We have been without our unit for a month during the hottest part of the season and it looks like we still have another month to go. I am not so sure the window units will hold up in this heat for another month. All I can think of is if I had small children in the house, it would not be possible to live in this house.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield for my drier. Their claim process is great. They usually call me back within no more than an hour if I do it during the day. Their contractors have all been great, except for one encounter with their AC technician which wasn’t great. But I don't think they use him much anymore. My drier is working perfectly now. It’s really easy to use them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been extremely good. All the claims I filed were handled well by the company. They’ve fixed anything I’ve had that has broken. When I call in, their reps were very courteous, polite and they answered my questions. They send me an email confirming who is going to call me. I have not had to call them just to find out why they haven’t called. And the techs that they call to contact me have handled it properly. They get in contact with me depending on what time of the day I’ve called to file a claim, but it didn’t take very long. If it was in the afternoon, it’d be the next morning. If I call in the morning, it’d be that afternoon. I haven't had any problem with AHS at all. They give very good service.
