My air conditioning went out. It went out last year too, but someone came and repaired it but I think they only put a band aid over it. This time, American Home Shield sent someone out and I wasn't home. My son was there and he said, "Ma, I don't think you should go with this man. He's asking for $500." So I called American Home Shield back to get a second opinion because I wasn't satisfied with the person that came. They sent a second person out and he looked over my system and told me that my system is not fixable. I said, "Well, somebody was just here a couple of days ago and they wanted to repair it." And she said, "There was no way he was gonna be able to repair your system, ma'am." Then AHS reached backed to me a day or two later and told me they were sending someone else out to replace my air conditioning unit. I'm the happiest person in the world.
I've been a homeowner for 15 years. I'm a single parent and I live by myself. I don't have a second income to help me out. I started out using a home warranty company, but then, eventually, I let it go. But I'm glad I've recently signed back up a year or two ago. The money that I pay to American Home Shield every month is worth it. I like their service. Even when I call them, I always get someone. The customer service is excellent. I've never had someone that treated me as well as AHS. I had a great experience with them so they'll get a lot of positive feedback from me to other people. I know lots of homeowners and a lot of single women that are homeowners. I actually told all of my homeowner friends to join a home warranty company and I recommended American Home Shield. I always tell them about my experience because a warranty is something that you should have. You never know when something will go out.

I filed a claim online and the process was simple and user friendly. They fixed the dual capacitor of my AC. The technician was from the company Aire Serv, a company I'm familiar with. Their tech has been out to my house a few times for unrelated issues, but now I'm a huge fan of them. All in all, Aire Serv is exactly who we want. They're timely and polite. They inform us of everything that they're doing, exactly what the issue is and they do their best to repair it in a timely manner including getting parts.

I had a contractor come out to look at some air conditioning units but it didn’t go too well. He looked at the units and said they couldn’t be fixed. It seemed like he was trying to get me to buy a unit from him, as opposed to actually trying to fix it. But I did get my refrigerator fixed on a previous call so that went well with AHS.

I pay a monthly fee to AHS. I have for about 3 years approx. It is 75 dollars for someone to come out and fix the problem. When something big (bad) happens they look for a way out. My pool pump is shot, absolutely not working anywhere near where it should. To the extent that I imagine it could be dangerous to swim in bad water. So after dealing with the pool company that came out and getting the runaround I decided to call AHS. After I told them my problem, my rep at AHS told me that the pool company had SPECULATED that my pool pump cracked because the water level was low and not due to wear and tear. So this was news to me, because the pool company that came out had told my pool guy that they had fixed the problem and it was working without ever talking to me when they were at my house (plus no signed paperwork explaining their work).
This is where it gets worse. My contact at AHS told me to read my contract because they only cover damage by wear and tear. I told her that any pool person could see that the pump is useless due to wear and tear. So I brought up the word speculate. That is an opinion not a fact. My question is why would you take a random guess as fact, and leave me the client in the loss. My contract says you will fix the pump. You tell me that the pool company’s guess is better than finding out the facts. This is a horrible company and I am dropping my service as soon as the second opinion is done. I am going to Fidelity. I have them with another home I own and they seem to be ok.
Even the pool people I talk with in the area tell me that this company is known for this. Most pool companies won't work with them because they are very cheap and not very customer friendly. I never complain on paper, but now that I have to buy another pump on my own so my kids don't get sick (900 dollars) and pay 150 dollars to have two pool companies come out plus 75 dollars a month to a company that won't honor their contract. Well sometime you just have to speak up.

We’ve had AHS since we’ve lived here and they’ve always been really good. Their reps are usually really professional. I live out in the country and not close to a really big city but they will normally tell me upfront that they have somebody in the area but it may be a little bit of time to get them out here. Recently, my air conditioner wasn’t cooling off so I logged a complaint to their website. The technician came out that day. He’s top notch and really knowledgeable. We’ve used him two years ago when he fixed something for us.

I called American Home Shield out for my pool. It took two or three days before they came out and said it wasn't covered because the water went off the house into here and that rusted it out. I gave pictures where I got a gutter over it, gutter goes down. There's no water that gets on it but there are slots or holes all over the top of the heater that lets the heat out and the water turns down in there. There's nowhere that they tell me I have to have a cover over it to keep the water out of it because it's made to be outside.
We went round and round and I wound up three extra charges to have people come out and they never fixed it. They wouldn't give me the pictures or anything on it. They said that was all because they work for American Home Shield. There's been a process of them refusing to do it and having a third company come out. But the one before that, I had the microwave go out and they put another in. There wasn't an issue at all which was a really good one. I've had one real good experience with them and I've had a bad one too.

AHS helps but does not exceed my expectations. Our air conditioner stopped blowing cold air so I submitted a claim online to them. The contractor called but didn’t give any idea of how to get a hold of them. There was no way to contact them directly because all we could do is call and leave a message. After the initial contact, they said that they'll be out between 8:00 and 10:00, but they didn’t get out there until 6:00 at night and it made it a terrible, terrible day. I have a 78-year-old mother who lives with us and she sleeps during the day. So for her to be in a 105-degree temperature doesn’t help. However, once the team of two guys got there, they got the AC fixed and did a fantastic work. They're smart, on point, very thorough, clear, and respectful. I cannot commend them highly enough. The AC is working normal now.

I'm pleased with AHS. I have good rapport with them and haven't had any complaints. When we called to file a claim recently for the air conditioning on one of our rental homes, everything was taken care of. Their rep was very helpful. And because it was an emergency and it was so hot, she said they were going to bring someone at a later day. And she was able to work something and the air conditioner people came the next day. When the contractor came over, explained everything that was going on and told us what was covered or not. The guy was pretty good.

I don’t really like American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for an air conditioning unit and I was supposed to deal with one of their air conditioning service contractors. However, the one that we're supposed to deal with was very busy and couldn't get out to the house until a week and a half later, so we were without air conditioning in a 100 degree Texas weather. So I started to try and find somebody else to go out here, and this other company who was taking a look and troubleshooting our air conditioner determined that I needed another air conditioning unit. They left it unplugged because it's a fire hazard to keep the unit plugged in when it's not working properly.
Later, I found out from American Home Shield that before they'll have somebody come out here, we would have to have the other company go back out and put the air conditioner back to its original configuration before they would even consider covering anything. The other company on the other hand, didn’t want to do that because it was a fire hazard. Why plug it back in again when it's not working properly? So I was pretty much stuck in a bad position. It's pretty much going to be the end of American Home Shield for me.

AHS fixed my water heater. But claim submission was a difficult process. It took me 45 minutes on the phone trying to get them for the first time and then once I got a number for their maintenance people, I was finally able to get through. And because of that, I am seriously considering changing. Plus, it had been difficult getting communication with the plumber. I had to try two or three different times and pay two different plumbers before they finally got there. And they want me to pay a $100 fee which I don't think is fair because I had to pay two other plumbers before they finally got there. But once they got there, they did the job.

I called American Home Shield and told them my garage door opener is broken so can they send somebody out. They said, "Sure!" They asked for my information and said that they'll have somebody out to me within the next 72 hours. They were professional, prompt, helpful, and very nice when I spoke with them. The contractor was so knowledgeable and knew right away what the problem was. But he could not get the parts because it was such an old garage door opener. So right away he said that they're gonna replace it. After the repair, it was working really good.
I sold the house and moved out, but right before I left and whenever the family was over, they were enjoying the new garage door opener. In the past I've had air conditioning problems and AHS has been able to repair it and I had a great experience with that, too. I'm building a home right now and as soon as all my warranties run out after it's built, which will be about a year after that, I'm gonna call AHS and get insurance with them again.

I've been with American Home Shield since '93 when I bought my house. I don't use them all the time but I felt comfortable having the warranty. And when I used it, it worked very well. However, this year I had a frustrating experience with them when I had a problem with my air conditioner. It just froze. Somebody came out and I asked the technician to check other things since he was the expert. He fixed the AC and got it going, but within a day it had frozen up again. All the tech did was check some wires that were burned. He said, "Oh, we had an electrical storm and that’s what probably did this." I asked if it did any other damage to anything else, and he said, "It's working. It's fine," so he might not have checked everything.
I wasn’t happy with the technician and the vendor that were used because of the way the problem was presented, or the way the tech didn't listen to me when I asked him to make sure that everything else is fine, like that the capacitor isn't burned or there isn't something wrong with it. The first contractor was a little arrogant in the way that, if I ask questions, he was saying that I need to do this and I need to do that. I said, “I know I need to do this. But this is an older AC, and I’m sure if you look at your records, I haven’t had a problem with this one for about five to six years.” They had to change the capacitor because it blew out. All of our capacitors in Austin were blowing out for that particular year.
I wanted somebody else, so I called AHS, but there was a mix-up because of that request. When I found out that I had to pay a whole other $75 co-pay because it would be considered a new situation or item, I said, "Oh, no. I'll go ahead and go with the original one." And the process in contacting AHS is very time-consuming. Every time I tried to call them, I had to wait. Luckily, I could afford to do that but it wasted a lot of time. I was on the phone for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes. If it's going to take almost 45 minutes to call, they could consider telling people to just leave a message. They kept on saying that I could go to the website and do it that way, but I wanted to know something right away, and didn't want to wait and rely on the website. Besides, I've also used the website and it took awhile, too.
The new technician was very responsible and you could tell that he really wanted to do the right thing. But he didn’t have all the equipment that he needed. He needed a motor for the fan. He said, “We don’t have one in stock right now for this particular AC. But I can get you a temporary one.” He put the temporary motor in but it didn’t work. The fan worked but it was the compressor that had messed up now. If the guy had checked how the other things were doing, it might have been okay. But the way that this company works is, they have some technicians that work on certain things and others that work on other things. So, a different crew came and put the compressor in. But the problem with the vendor was in contacting me and scheduling the appointment. It took them so long to get back to me.
The technician who put in the compressor was very good. But I never found out whether or not the temporary fan is the right fan to be used in my AC, if it's running efficiently, or whether or not the fan is pulling more power than it needs to, or if it's going to break or cause something else to break, and I don’t know if the different crews worked in unison correctly. I got the specs for the fan, so I knew exactly which motor it needed. But the techs had already installed the compressor and put the fan back in place. They said, “Even if we had a fan, we couldn’t put it in. You have to call the company." But the company never called me back.
I’ve called AHS and they said, “Well, if it works, it’s working.” I said, “But then if it goes out, then is it gonna be part of the same ticket even if it’s a year later?” They wouldn’t give me an idea. I was exhausted by that time so I just said, “Forget about it. I’ll just watch it.” They were pretty nice on the phone, but since all the whole process took a long time, I didn't have an AC for almost three weeks. I had friends saying, "Why are you using the insurance when you could just call somebody?" It was hot here in Austin, but not hot enough that I would call somebody myself. The AHS guys said, "We could have somebody there today," so it just didn't make sense the way they were doing it.
Instead of AHS saying, “This company will call you,” they could give us a category of people that we could work with, that we know from being here in Austin, that they have a reputation of doing the work right away and getting back with the customer. That would keep the vendors honest, too, because they would know that they’re not just going to get work right away, and that they’ve also got to treat the AHS customers like they treat any of the other customers that they have with other warranty companies.
So far, since the repair, everything has been working okay with my AC, and it’s cooling. I know what my usage is during the summer, so I was going to see how it compared to previous months, but I haven’t had a chance yet to look at the history. I had an ordeal with that claim, although it finally got taken care of. Then one of my problems is, if that process was documented and how it was going to be documented, such as when the guys came and realized that they had been late and it had taken them a couple of days to get to my house.

I bought my condo last October and my agent recommended that I take the American Home Shield for the first year in case there was any trouble with my appliances. But with the hustle and bustle, I didn’t read all the fine print and the program I had. I thought it covered my heating, plumbing, plus my appliances but I realized it didn’t even cover my appliances. But it was my own fault and I'm taking blame for it. So the worst scenario for me buying a used condo was the fact that the AC in it is 18 years old.
And indeed, the AC will have to be replaced soon, but I'll get through the summer with it and I'm almost out of the woods. The AC wasn’t blowing out any air and was low on Freon. It was hot, hot, hot. I called AHS and they sent a contractor who came right out and was awesome. He worked on my AC and was Johnny on the spot. He was very, very nice. Now, all I got to do is put Freon on it and have it serviced every year. It will last but it will be burning more electricity than it should. It's not the right trick and I got to take a look at it in the long run. So I called AHS and canceled. They have other plans I could get to cover everything, but it was more expensive than my budget could afford. Nonetheless, I'd definitely recommend them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been very satisfying for the fact that they're responsive and very professional. They haven't denied me too much. Most of the time, I submit my claims online and their website is really easy to navigate. Except for two, all the contractors have been very good. However, when I had a claim for my poolside, they don't do electrical, only mechanical.

My air conditioner was acting up and I had no problems filing a claim for that. I got rid of the first contractor because they didn’t know what they were doing. They misdiagnosed and wrote it off as nothing was wrong when in fact, it had major issues. Then AHS got another contractor out there that was able to troubleshoot and detect the fault and get it working properly. The performance of the air conditioner is good since the repair, though I'm having some rattling noise, but they don't cover that.
The process for claim was fairly easy and simple. It was just when I got into the fine print on the contract, there were some things that they didn’t cover and things that depending on the contract term, that they only went up to a certain amount that I wasn’t aware of, it would have caused out-of-pocket expenses that I wasn’t familiar with.
It’s also frustrating that when you start getting into the coverage and then at a certain area of the contract, you have to go to another area of the contract to find if there’s an exclusion. It doesn’t come right out. Like the air conditioner, if you have an R-22 refrigerant, it’s going to cost you $50 a pound because R-22 refrigerant is due to be phased out in 2020. Presently, American Home Shield only covers $10 per pound of refrigerant for the first pound and that’s it. So if my unit has over 10 pounds of refrigerant, I'm looking at roughly $500 to $600 in refrigerant cost if I have a malfunction with my air conditioner. Then they say that if your air conditioner messes up if they can’t repair it, they’ll replace it. But if you look at the fine print, there’s an exclusion that says they’ll only pay $2500 per contract term. You can’t buy an air conditioner for $2500.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for 17 years. My wife and I review the pros and cons of AHS each year as our contract comes up for renewal. Past years were much easier to justify than recon ones. Last month our combination microwave/convection oven stopped working. I reset the breaker to the unit. The oven returned to normal. The microwave oven did not. I called AHS to report the problem. AHS contracts with Sears for appliance repair. Sears diagnosed the issue, but claimed their database showed the part as "No Longer Available". According to the technician, his diagnosis and finding were reported to AHS. AHS found the part and sent it to me. When it arrived, I called AHS and scheduled an appointment to have the part installed. The technician arrived today, thirty days after I reported the issue AHS, and determined that the part AHS ordered could not be installed.
The technician reported this to AHS. In his conversation, he commented that a similar part from another type of microwave MIGHT work but that he couldn't guarantee it. AHS heard 'could work', and repeatedly refused to acknowledge that the technician wasn't sure, AND couldn't guarantee it, or if it did, how long the repair would last. Now, I'm forced to wait for a part that is NOT called for, and a repair that the technician would prefer not to make. A microwave oven is a common appliance that a majority of American kitchens rely upon for daily duty. Our microwave will be out of service for at least five weeks...a significant inconvenience and a sizable fraction of the annual contract with AHS. Furthermore, providing a receipt for proof is not easy.

Filing a repair order's easy, but getting the air conditioner repair done is the problem. The technician came out, made a diagnosis and said that the problem was wiring in the wall, and American Home Shield said they would not pay for it. And then I had another person come out and all it was was a relay switch and I never could get a hold of anybody at AHS that would call me back or talk to me about the problem. I ended up having to pay for the repair myself because their person misdiagnosed the air conditioner's problem.
I also had a plumbing problem at my primary location, and I was going through cancer treatment at the time and couldn't be home every day of the week at a certain time. The company that AHS sent to me, to call me, said they could only be at my house between a certain time on Monday morning. And so, I couldn't get the work done. I never could get a hold of anybody to talk to them about it because the system is so automated. It's very difficult to talk to someone. They're not replacing it which I understand but it was a big let down. It cost a lot of money. I'm on Social Security, so I don't have that much money. It never dawned on me that that would come up and that they didn't cover anything. Also, they raised the initial payment. It was $50 to come out to look at whatever, and now it's up to $75. My water heater quit and had to be replaced. I had no problem filing the claim with American Home Shield and they did very well. However, I would not invite the service man that came out back in my house. He acted like he was afraid to use any extra material and he didn't put down any floor protection for my new rug. He just placed his tools down and he even laid his dirty tools on my bed. Then he couldn't drain the water out, so he took the heater out with the water in it and dropped it out the front door and let it crash on the lawn.
He did replace the entire water heater and it seems to be doing very well. But, he didn't have the valve that goes to the water heater by itself so if I have to turn the water off, I have to turn the water off to the entire house which is a pain in the neck. He also seemed like he was in a great big hurry and didn't have time for any little stuff. He was not working professionally and I would've expected better. We were advised to get this service as we purchased our most recent home. Not long after moving in we called about the fridge that wouldn't cool. First visit the tech said it couldn't be repaired and said it would be replaced. American Home Shield insisted on sending another tech. Few weeks later, second tech agreed it needed to be replaced after attempting to repair it. Again American Home Shield refused. At that point it had been 3 months and we had to buy a fridge rather than wait for them to fix it, only after the fact agreed to pay a percentage of the cost. We called about the AC because it wasn't keeping things cool to be told it was fine. Only to realize the thermostat was the problem and replaced it at my expense (not wanting to repeat the experience with the fridge).
We also had them check out the water heater after it was working intermittently which the tech assured us it was fine. Contrary to that claim and despite the home and appliances only being 7 years old we're buying a new water heater. If you are incredibly wealthy and want to help others get wealthy this is a great company. Considering the initial cost of the coverage plus the cost for each technician, lost wages for unnecessary (multiple wasted visits you have to wait for) plus the cost to replace/repair each item it's fair to say American Home Shield is a waste of time and money. It also appears negative reviews about them are crossed out after an apology from the company so be sure to look at those experiences so not to miss what people are experiencing.

I have an Asthmatic child and we're doing the best we can to make it through. Did I mention we live in Florida. Customer service is awful especially the Georgia call center (Rep. Ciara should be banned from any employment requiring good customer service from her). I have paid for this contract for two years and this is my first time using the service. I will never recommend American Home Shield to any homeowner. I will definitely warn those in my community to go with a reputable company. Hopefully I can get the repair done soon. Well you need to have 1/2 day to call and get a representative. Then they have to call you back and that is a phone message and then the 45 minute on hold again. Then they send a workman that comes out and really is not clear about what he needs to do. Then you find out they need to send someone else. He comes and you are now 2 weeks into the repair... washing machine for my example... and they tell you they want to replace the equipment instead of repair it with a similar item. So the washer is not the same as the dryer but also was under counter and needs to fit but their proposal doesn't fit. So they will give me about 1/3 what it costs to fix or even replace the existing equipment and that is it... No place further to go. But I gave them a 3 star because they at least are offering a settlement... Good or bad... At least not telling me to go away.

A few months into being a new homeowner I noticed I'm having issues with the motor in my refrigerator. When I went online and opened a service ticket it said there is a $75 service fee. After I called into their customer service line to clear this up, the rep was incredibly rude and not understanding of my situation and complaint. I told him what they're doing there is absolutely disgusting and is blatant theft!
Best advice I can give to home sellers is DO NOT waste your money on this company and to home buyers is DO NOT think you're actually getting home warranty from this crooked scumbag of a company. They take millions in a year from hard working people who think they actually have a warranty they won't have to pay a dime for, but to the homeowners' surprise when they see a $75 fee + any other fees associated with the repair, they say "Screw this. Not worth it!"

We have two accounts with American Home Shield because we have two homes. Our rental home needed the water tank or heater replaced. The person that they sent out gave us a long list of stuff that needed to be done, and we questioned that. When we told AHS that we questioned that, that particular contractor had nothing else to say to us. They wouldn’t return the calls or do the work. We contacted AHS and that’s when they told us that we had the option to get the work done ourselves and then they would give a set amount to help pay for that. So we had to go out and get someone else to do the work. The other contractor installed it and then we had to get a reimbursement of a specific amount from American Home Shield to make up the difference.
AHS didn’t have another contractor that would do the work. They only had that one contractor for that, which I thought was limiting. We didn’t get along with the contractor personally. AHS should be able to still find some way to get the work done without me having to go outside of the plan that I'm paying monthly for. But other than that, they’ve been great in everything else they’ve done. The last claim was the garbage disposal, which failed and was leaking. I absolutely LOATHE American Home Shield and can’t wait to terminate our contract. It should be noted that after being vacant for over 1 yr, we moved into our home in October 2015 and thought we did the right thing by contracting AHS’ services. Since starting our contract, we’ve only placed 4 claims, none resulting in many costs, if any, to AHS.
More recently and unbeknownst to us, on 08/06/16 (the morning of our daughter’s b-day party), one of our sewer ejector pumps stopped working, overflowing sewage into our basement. Just to provide a picture, that means anytime we used water, i.e. toilet, shower, sink, etc. it came back up into our home – think how hard it is for a family of 4 w/ 2 small children, to not use water! We put a claim in to AHS on 08/07/16 and they contracted out Malangone Mechanics, LLC. It should be noted that Malangone’s customer service is next to non-existent, we were initially told that our plight was not that important and they wouldn’t get anyone out to our home before 08/10 or 08/11/16. It wasn’t until we had the town waste control company come out and stress that our situation was indeed an emergency that AHS labeled it so, and only then did Malangone send a couple of technicians out to our home on 08/10/16.
This is where it gets better… the technicians who were at first confused, “looked” at our pump and determined that the damage was due to the system not being maintenanced every year as the manufacturer requires and an excessive buildup of grease. AHS in turn coined the claim “not due to normal wear and tear” and denied it. Malangone then turned around and stated that they could repair the job for at LEAST $300, but they wouldn’t know for sure until they actually looked at the pump how much the costs would actually be. They further stressed that we needed to hurry and get them back out to our house because they cleaned the pump out, but we’d only have about 2 days before it would start backing up again. In addition, the $100 deductible I had given them to just come out, would not go towards the job.
Feeling the pressure, I scheduled them to come back out, but also phoned AHS that day to dispute the claim that we had somehow misused a sewer pump. That same night we had another plumber come out who not only “looked” at the pump, but also ran water, etc. to help him get an accurate assessment of the situation. This plumber refuted Malangone’s claim that a sewer ejector pump needs annual maintenance, which we were able to confirm through the manufacture’s manuals and other reviews. In addition, this plumber explained that at the most we’d probably need a new float, which costs no more than $60. He then activated on pump 2 w/ the flip of a switch, filled pump 1 (the malfunctioning one) and now has us living off of pump 2 until we’re able to get pump 1 fixed --- Malangone didn’t do half of this, only scammed to get more money out of us.
Of course I phoned AHS the following day (08/11/16) to explain all of the above, expressing my disagreement with the claim being denied, including the notion of excessive grease as we’re into our health and rarely ever cook with grease. I was eventually transferred to an Authorization Specialist, Kimone, who appeared to see my points and advised me that I was privy to a 2nd opinion, which I gladly accepted. However, while trying to locate the 2nd contractor, Kimone discovered that Malangone is the only provider AHS contracts in our area. Kimone stated that because there are no other contracted providers, AHS allows us to hire our own. To start the process he stated that he had to phone Malangone to get a verbal explanation from them, and he’d get back to me.
Kimone didn’t call me back, so I attempted to followup w/ him the following day (08/12/16) and spoke with representative, Lawanda, who told me that a new policy had been put into place that day and I could no longer be transferred to an Authorization Specialist. Lawanda stated that she’d put in a request for me to receive a call back from an Authorization Specialist w/in 24-48 hrs. I never received a return call and had difficulty making contact w/ AHS directly myself, until today (08/23/16).
Unfortunately, I had the pleasure of speaking with Kim today, Kim informed me that we actually do not qualify for the 2nd opinion option because AHS only contracts 1 provider in our area and in addition, the claim has surpassed the required 7 days… AMAZING!!! Because of her absurd statements, I requested to speak with a supervisor and was told that no one’s available to speak with me now, but I’ll be put in for a call back w/in 24-48 hrs… which I’m pretty sure I’ll never get!
In the meantime, AHS gets paid every month and my family gets taken advantage of because they only provide 1 plumber in my area… I’m pretty sure Malangone knows this as well. AHS seems more dedicated to their contractors than the customers who pay them... amazing! A great team they are! Not sure how AHS is considered the #1 leading warranty company out there other than they have a great marketing team. Lesson learned: Get a new home warranty provider and make sure this one partners with a better selection of contractors that aren’t scam artists…

They have all been good and outstanding except one. One of them had been regular and he'd been out here the last two times. He's good. Then another guy came and he was supposed to have changed my motor out. He put the wrong size of compressor and it ended up burning my condenser. The other guy came out to repair that, and told me what happened and what was wrong.
They're doing a good job. It's just a long process to get it done and find out what the problem was. They came out to fix one thing, then something else was broken and they got tied up on that one that they forgot what they had come out for in the first place. That had been going on and on. First, it was my motor running out, then the compressor going out. Now they found out it's a leak in one of the coils. The contractors couldn't do anything yet because AHS has a certain regulation they got to go through. The contractor is supposed to go to AHS and get approval to put new coils in. My most recent claim was an ongoing claim for probably over the last three years or two years. The air conditioning unit went out and the contractors sent by American Home Shield just kept coming back and trying to piecemeal everything back together. Whenever I submit the claim, they basically, took care of everything over the telephone call but it always took them a week or two to get out here. It got to the point in time of trying to reason with them and plead with them. I just had enough and I elected to not deal with them anymore. I cancelled the policy and went out and put a whole new AC unit in. I just wanted to make sure that the system was reliable and that there wouldn't be any issues going forward.
I learned that they weren't supposed to continually resupply the system with Freon and they kept instructing their technicians to do that. The funny part is the only time I really only used them over the three years that I have had the home warranty because of the air conditioning and the problem started three years ago. It was never fully fixed to my satisfaction to begin with.
The contractors were very professional and returned my phone calls. They tried to keep me informed and told me what they were doing. It also took them about four and a half weeks when they had to replace all the coils on the air conditioning unit, from the first time they were out there and said that they were going to order the parts to them to come back and install it. At that time, the contractor kept blaming American Home Shield and American Home Shield kept blaming the contractor as well. Now, I don't know who was telling the truth there or who was at fault there. It probably lies somewhere in the middle.
When you think you're buying a home warranty and I know it's their job to run a business the most effective way possible. But it's the incorrect approach when you keep trying to fix something that's broken and put a band-aid approach on it when it was 90 degrees this year and you have two small children in the house and there wasn’t a sense of urgency there. It was kind of a little bit disheartening. Things could've have been better. A lesson learned on my part. Maybe my expectations were a little bit higher than they should've been. At the end, I personally feel better that I, myself came to the right conclusion and did the right thing.

When I filed a claim for my washer and dryer before, AHS responded the following day. But for the air conditioner, they took 3 days to respond. It’s the summer season and there was probably a high volume of calls. I had one vendor that was supposed to come out and do service, but after they came and said they had to order a part and they'll come back, weeks went by and they never got back in touch with me or AHS. We left voicemails but they never called. One thing I did not approve of is whenever we called AHS about the situation, they didn’t get back with us properly at all and they had all the information in the computer. We had to do a follow-up call four days later. But AHS rectified the situation very quickly and found us another vendor which I was very happy about.

My wife has severe medical problems plus is legally blind. Our heat went out during the winter, explain it to the tech and they came right out and fixed it. During the summer our air went down, called, explained about my wife's health and they was here within a few hours. It failed a few days later, they returned, made another repair and we had air. The techs was very professional and cleaned up after the repair. They explained everything they did to our unit.

Have two warranty plans with them for two homes. On the first plan, the first issue that happened nearly after a year of contract was denied of coverage by them. Not only they charged me $75 for the service request, plus an annual fee around $350 basically for doing nothing, but also the technician gave false recommendation which would have resulted in a huge bill for us to pay. I had an independent technician come up and they identified the problem which was much more basic. I paid $100 to the second technician plus $50 for a new pump purchased and the problem was properly fixed. AHS however obviously failed to pay me back.
On the second plan, on my first service request ever, the technician was scheduled to arrive last Friday. Nobody showed up ever however. I called over the weekend and after multiple failed attempts, I spent 45 minutes on hold on the final call. Finally after 45 minutes of hold the representative hung up on me before I get a chance to say a word. Then again I called first thing on Monday, was on hold for 20 minutes and the representative said they are going to assign me to a new technician because the previous service tech originally assigned to the job was behind the schedule. The new tech calls me after couple of hours now, responding to the email that I had sent to him and tells me that he needs the co-pay to be sent to him before he can even confirm a date to show up for the service. Poor service throughout.

We have used American Home Shield for 15 yrs. We have had some problems with them replacing items but eventually, it got done. Our tenant had to go without the oven for almost six months. The repairman said the part needed was no longer offered so a replacement is a must. They fought back and forth: they said since it's an item that can be replaced so they won't replace the oven but the tech kept telling them the part is no longer available...6 months later they replaced it. Once, they even lied to me and the CSR advised me the phone call was being recorded when I became irritable. I told him I was glad so they have proof they lied. Long story short, the oven was replaced. It was the same oven they replaced just three years earlier. KNOW YOUR FACTS when calling in and document every phone call and service call!!
After having the policy for over 15 yrs, we sold our home and cancelled the policy. Because we had a repair that exceeded the cost of the policy, they refused to issue a refund. We have ALWAYS paid the policy in full without a discount, mind you. They are convenient and they find the repairmen for you however the company is hard to deal with at times. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND making MONTHLY PAYMENTS instead of paying for the policy upfront. You will not receive a refund and you will not get a discount for paying for the policy upfront. Lesson Learned! Unfortunately, with all their downfalls, they're still the best home warranty we have found. Their policy covers almost everything, even if it's an item that lacked maintenance. Otherwise, we would have jumped ship a long time ago. We just bought another home and we will continue to use AHS.

American Home Shield came through and got us good prices and we were set to go with GE Appliances when we realized it would cost us $3,000 to customize the space after they'd already been delivered to San Antonio. American Home Shield took care of taking them back for a small shipping fee and came up with Whirlpool refrigerators that fit in the space. Worst contractors EVER! In October, our AC unit had a leak. A technician came out and "fixed it". Of course, since it was October, the AC wasn't used again. Fast forward to August. The AC unit has been on for a couple of months and the EXACT same part/leak is occurring again. The company AHS dispatched to fix it was scheduled to arrive between 3:30-5:30. After 9p.m. (with no call), a technician finally showed up. He was rude, dismissive and CLEARLY didn't want to be here. He looked at the unit, collected his $75, and said there is a leak but he couldn't fix it because it was frozen. I questioned him about this because the system had been off for 12 hours in 94 degree heat. He said he needed to wait 24 hours to refill the system (last company in October 2015 fixed it after the unit was turned off after 4 hours).
The technician described the problem as the same problem we had last time (leak in shredder valve). He told us to call the company to reschedule for the next day. Obviously, the company was closed at the late hour, so we called first thing in the morning and were told that they couldn't come until Monday evening. I called AHS and asked for a new company to look at the unit, as the heat index is almost 100 degrees and I was unhappy with how I was treated. They scheduled another company to come out (for ANOTHER $75, of course), but the second company NEVER SHOWED UP!!! This is totally unacceptable. My husband called AHS three times this weekend and they were totally inflexible. Everything he said fell on deaf ears. I feel that the contractors they are using are sub-par.
We're out of pocket a large amount of money because the leak isn't getting fixed, and we're having to pay for freon re-fills (which AHS doesn't cover), when the leak should've been fixed the first time. Now we're back to the first company and a new appointment on Tuesday. IF they show up, we'll have been without AC for over 6 days in 90+ degree heat! I am actively searching for new home warranty companies. BEWARE of American Home Shield!!! Their customer service representatives and contractors certainly don't seem to care about quality service.

I had a guy who tried to sell me something which was a long time ago but for the most part, they get the job done. However, when I submitted a claim for my AC unit, I had to pay for freon. The gentleman explained to me that freon’s gotten so expensive that they sell it now for a discounted rate. That’s the only thing that was a surprise to me. Usually I pay the fee and it’s fixed but when it comes to freon, there’s a copay or a discounted rate that I have to pay. It’s not free anymore. But the gentleman was really good. He showed me the scale and everything so I felt that I wasn’t taken advantage of.

When I first moved into this house, I had some major problems. I had American Home Shield correct a water heater that had to be replaced, I had some overhead fans that needed to be looked at, and I had a water clog in my main sewer pipes that they took care of. They had good people coming out and working on my problems, and they talk to me when they need to. They replaced the water heater, but I had to pay a little bit for the sewer clean up. They weren't certain that it was on my property. If it was off my property, then it wouldn't fall under my insurance. They found that it was just outside the wall of the house, so they were able to unclog that. I also had a ceiling fan that wasn't working and they came in and looked at it and determined it worked on a remote. I just had to rewire all the ceiling fans. They took care of everything that I needed done. I felt guilty having them take care of all that but they didn't complain.
Since American Home Shield's repair, everything is going great. I haven't had any trouble with the water heater. They warned me about what would happen with the sewer. I got tree roots going through the pipes outside the house that I need to put a root killer in every six months. So they instructed me to do that and to help keep the pipes clean. I've also changed all the remotes that were inside the ceiling fans and they all work.

After we had been out of the town, we came home and my air conditioner quit working. The thermostat had been acting up. So we called American Home Shield and a gentleman came out. My call was taken very professionally and AHS called back to check on it and see how things went. They were quick to send somebody out, I didn’t even walk out of my bedroom before they did. We had a water line that came off the air conditioning unit. Apparently, I had some boxes up against it, and it shifted the direction of the pipes so that the water wasn’t draining down. It was draining back into the unit. Simple fix if I'd gotten down there and looked at it, and I probably would've found it out myself.
The contractor was very good. He listened to everything that was going on. We had an issue with an electronic thermostat that had been previously installed by the previous owner of the house. During the winter, it would shut itself off. It was programmed by the installer to give us a message saying, "Call for service" and then it would shut itself off. We already had the unit winterize last fall because it had shut off like that. The first guy couldn’t catch it doing it while he was there so we suffered all winter with that thing shutting off. I refused to call the company that installed it because they have a bad reputation. Then this gentleman that came up for the air conditioner was able to reprogram the thermostat so that it won't happen again. He went above and beyond the call of duty.

But I called the AHS rep one time because the contractor hadn't changed stuff and evidently, the claim got confused somewhere. The rep was very professional. She told me what was going on, made a phone call and in about three hours, I got a call from the contractor saying they will be out there to do the work.
The contractors were very professional. They had their badges which showed who they're working for and who they were. They didn't come in without any information, trying to get into your home. The technician said, "We're here to do the doorbell, the microwave and then the air conditioner." It was three claims and they provided email for each problem. They cleaned up what they messed up wherever they work. It was a nice, professional job. When I first got American Home Shield, they get about five other companies and they weren't what I expected. I had a lot of good reviews with American Home Shield as far as when my sink went out and they came here to fix it. But the last contractor I've dealt with, the Same Day Air Conditioning, has yet to fix my air conditioner. They were a little rude each time they came in to meet and they didn’t have any patience with me. They kept telling me that they would fix it, but they didn’t the first time.
They had a guy who came and did nothing. He told not to cut my AC on for 20 minutes, and he then said, “You can cut it on.” So I did that. Within seven minutes it had burned back out. I called them back and said that it's burned out again. He yelled, “Well, I already told you that it might not work. We got to get another piece.” I told them that I have tumors in my stomach and I can't be in too much heat, I have to be cooled. It's 100 degrees out there and I have no AC. They said that they'll do the best they can to come and fix it. That was 12 days later and it was the third time.
I called American Home Shield and told them that I'm not comfortable with Same Day Air Conditioning. AHS told me that they would pay up to $125 if I get some fans and show them the proof. So I had to buy those, otherwise, I would probably be in the hospital. AHS have to reimburse my $125 yet. I'm still waiting on that because I wouldn't have made it without these fans.
The guy comes the fourth time and he got what he needed. He’s down there for about 15 minutes and I told him to call me when he's done. He then tells me that he couldn’t fix it as the air conditioner is so old. He told me that he had to order another piece and then he leaves. He took all the pieces of the AC out to make sure nobody else can come and fix it, so if AHS wanted to send somebody here, they can't do it. My AC is just empty. It’s been eight days from that and I haven't heard from Same Day.
Then I talked with a really wonderful and awesome lady from AHS. She told me to stay on the line and she would contact them. Same Day told her that they were trying to make an appointment for me but didn't know what it is for. She asked if my AC was here and I told her that Same Day took everything out. She said that she can't do anything about it, and that Same Day should be calling me in a couple of days. I told her that AHS need to breach Same Day's contract. I'm thinking that if AHS would do that, then Same Day might come and do something to me. I'm not even safe with them. So now I'm nervous, thinking if AHS would stop them, they might blow my house up because they just want the money. They don’t care about customer service. The experience was not good at all.

I submit my claims to AHS online because it's the quickest for me, but the categories are not clear when doing it online. Like for instance, if the claim is for plumbing leak, it will just say leaking. Other than that, our plumbing contractor and our air conditioner contractor is usually the same person. I've had them a couple of times and they've been fabulous. Their response time was great and they fixed everything.
When we first moved into our house and started using AHS, I did have a problem with an air condition repair person who kept telling me that a part is needed and then it turned out that it wasn't the problem, so it was dragging on and on. Then finally, they said that I needed a new unit and so I had to wait for that again. I also had one issue where one person never contacted me and I ended up calling AHS about it and have them call me. It's a long-distance number if they call me at work and I don't answer personal phone calls and they didn't leave a message. So, they just crossed me off and moved on. On the other hand, there's one that I would love to recommend and request every time, but we're not allowed to request.
American Home Shield also don't pay for any of the things that needed an upgrade in order to fix the appliance or whatever it is to meet the current code. So, it can be deceiving when I have $1,000 bill and $500 of it is paying to get the item working. For instance, when my air conditioner went out and they finally replaced my gas heater, the gas pipe doesn't reach to it. The older unit had a shorter pipe, but the new unit needed a longer one and they're not gonna pay for it. It's a little deceiving and frustrating to me because they agreed to repair it. But for the most part, it's been great and I would recommend them.

American Home Shield sent a incompetent tech to look at a leaking AC pan. He connected a high voltage wire to a low voltage terminal in our AC unit. By doing this he started a fire which burnt out our unit on the hottest day of the year. We called American Home Shield for nine days each day we had no AC. I had to buy two portable AC units which only cooled our house to 85 degrees. Each time we called we spoke to a different person and had to tell our situation again and again. Finally we were told we would have to pay $1000 for new freon or $ 5000 to replace the unit. We had to pay to fix our system that was working fine until American Home Shield's tech blew up our AC. They kept transferring us to a different department.
Finally I asked that they just pay for damage that they caused they said they would transfer me a different department and they would take maybe two weeks to get back to us. Two weeks, it was over 100 degrees everyday and they wanted me to wait another two weeks. They never paid us a dime, not only for a covered item but a item they blew up. This company is a scam and are defrauding people everyday by not paying claims. They are not regulated by the insurance commission in Virginia. My intentions are to file a complaint with the states attorney general's office for fraud. I watch their commercial on TV and wonder how many other people will be taken advantage of today. Do not be mislead you probably do not have the coverage you think you have.

They explain what the problems are and pretty much tells me what it would require to fix the problem, and they go ahead and do it. The only thing is sometimes there’s a little problem with the scheduling. I live so far away from where I work but we generally work it out. Also, I’m not aware that there have been increases every year for $2 or $3 on my monthly fee. They may have brought it to my attention and I just didn’t notice it. The top oven door did not close completely so heat was escaping and causing the stain of our wood cabinet to fade above the door. So we put a claim in with AHS. But the first company that came out couldn't do anything since according to them, the door was fine and that's the way it was supposed to be. But I knew it wasn't, because I had to hold it tight when I first turn on the oven for it to preheat faster. The bottom oven closes completely, but this one did not. So we requested a second opinion and AHS sent out another company that was able to correct the problem, and we were pleased with that.
But we were unhappy about a claim we filed last November. It was for a pipe in our cement foundation that was cracked and allowing moisture to come up on our carpet. We waited three or four days but nobody called us. We called them back, but we couldn't wait because our carpet was getting wet, so we called another plumbing company. They told us what the problem was and that they could start to correct it the next day. But AHS wasn't happy with that because it wasn't one of their approved plumbing companies. They then asked another company to contact us and that took a couple of days. In the meantime, we decided that we can't wait, otherwise the problem is gonna ruin our whole house and carpet so we went ahead with the other company.
AHS would not accept the claim and would not pay for it, so we were not happy with that situation. It was a major work. They had to close the pipe off that was in the foundation so as to not jackhammer the whole foundation in every place where the hot water pipe was. So they cut that off and rerouted a pipe up through the attic and down the walls of every place where there's hot water - the two sinks in the master bathroom, shower, tub, guest bathroom sink and shower, laundry room, and kitchen. Then sheetrock men had to come in to fill the holes, re-texture, and repaint them.
It was about a week's project which cost $9,000. We caught it fairly quickly and the damage was only in one room. We could feel the floor hot in a lot of different areas which meant hot water was under the foundation. But there was only one room where there was moisture and water coming up in the carpet. AHS would only pay for repairing that damage, not fixing the pipe situation. So we wondered if we really need AHS.
I think there's always the 'ifs' and 'buts' with major item claims but AHS has been fine on other minor things. There may be some other companies out there that may be better though. There's also an issue with punctuality of when AHS asks someone to come out for a claim. I wish they would have called to let us know if the contractor can't be out in a couple of days so we could have gotten somebody else that AHS approved of sooner, especially if it's a matter of something that couldn't wait.

I recently contacted American Home Shield for a garage door opener. It was extremely difficult to get a hold of them, always over an hour wait just to talk to a representative. I can put them on speakerphone and go clean my house and have half my house cleaned before they’ve picked up the phone. They need to get a system for that. Even the contractor had to wait half an hour trying to get a hold of somebody to get approval for a light switch to be changed. I don't want to wait long only to be told that something is not covered.
They were getting at the bottom of the barrel to get someone to this garage door opener. For some reason, subcontractors don’t like the pay that American Home Shield gives. They had one guy come out here who didn’t even have an email account for them to send the work to. Then a week later, he never gave me a time, he shows up. Then two days later, he says, “Sorry, I can’t do that work.” So they had to bring somebody in for me from Ann Harbor, which is 90 miles away. But those guys were very professional. They did a good job, although I had issues with them and I still have issues because of my second garage door, the one that they were supposed to replace, the light still doesn’t work on it.
I have American Home Shield on a lot of my homes, and Sears' contractors has been the only one that I have ever used. They're the only one that actually says, “This is the problem. We’re going to get it fixed.” They’ve always been very professional. They’re well trained, have a good understanding of what needs to be done and they’re very efficient. But American Home Shield will only use Sears for very technical things such as ovens. They don't fix garage door switches. So it was a continuous thing that probably took me a month to rectify. I’m very determined when I think I deserve something. I go through the process, and that includes even having to call the Attorney General’s Office to get what I pay for.

We have been with AHS for over 14 yrs, in fact I liked them so much that I referred neighbors, family and friends. In early July we had a leak in our kitchen ceiling, so we called them and they sent out modern plumbing. The guy after cutting a 12x12 in my ceiling tells me that the leak was coming from the plumbing pipe located on the roof and that it couldn't be fixed by them. He said that I need to call a roofer to seal around the pipe. So, I still have to pay him the $75.00 visit fee the 15 minutes he was here and for cutting the hole and finding the leak. He then tells me, that after I have it repaired, I have to call AHS to have them setup someone to repair the hole he cut in my ceiling.
Well a week later we get the pipe sealed and call AHS, they schedule a drywall/construction company to come repair the drywall. The construction guy calls and tell me he will repair it but that it will be a really rough patch. Which means it will more than likely need another coat of drywall compound and sanding on another day. He says it has to dry and then be sanded and that ahs only pays for one visit from him. He tells me that in order to get to a smooth flat drywall finish like the rest of the ceiling, and so that it does not look like a ceiling patched there needs to be another visit! Which means I have to hire someone and pay them to come fix the AHS fixers job of fixing my ceiling. Which could cost me $250-400. The guy then tells me I could ask ahs for a payout, pay the additional cost and get someone else to do the completed job.
So I call AHS and say I would like a payout instead, so that I can have my ceiling they cut a hole in repaired. The nice lady that day told me they would start the process. Well since then we have not heard from them. So it's been over a month, I call AHS and speak with Lisa in authorization. A very rude and horrible person who tells me I have to contact the construction company and have them come out do and estimate for the patch job before they will offer me a pay out. She then says "You should have read the contract prior to the cutting of the ceiling and known that we only authorized a rough repair".
I understand that the repair would be rough, in that I will need to paint the ceiling to have it all match, but a patchwork quilt is not what my ceiling should look like. AHS should make sure contractors are clear in telling homeowner when they are in your home doing repairs that involve ceiling and drywall that if they allow them to do repairs that your property will not be back in its original smooth state when they are finished.
I call the construction company and was told that he will not come out and do an estimate but will instead just send over the price to pay. So today I call and was told they are working on the offer for pay out but were not sure when an offer would be made. It's very disappointing as a consumer when you invest in a home warranty company and feel as though you have been given the run around, being lied to and treated rudely. Before this I thought I would be a AHS member for life always telling everyone about this company. I think it's time research other warranty companies. Shame on you AHS.
Updated on 09/03/2016: Follow-up to 12x12 hole in kitchen that AHS contractor cut out of my ceiling back in July. I received an offer of $90.00 that I can use to have someone else repair my ceiling. AHS charges me $75-$80 per contractor's visit. So do they really believe that I can find a contractor to fix what they did for that? No! I really was happy with them before this, but now I know not to ever let them cut dry wall to fix anything! The sad thing is they found the leak, charge me, but didn't repair the leak. They can dispute this but we know this is shameful on their part. Shameful! I just want the repair done to my drywall smooth. I can have it painted myself! Is that too much to ask for, out of the monthly payment I've been paying for over 14 years?

American Home Shield canceled my warranty in my primary residence because I didn't pay them all the money that they requested of me. They allowed a company to come in and changed almost all the electrical light sockets then they double charged me and said that I was having them do something that wasn't authorized, which was not true. The contractor did not do what it was supposed to do, charged me and then ruined my ability to cover my house.
I'm a business owner and I cannot do some of the stuff so I just have them fully covered. But then I call AHS up to get something done and they say they don't cover it. I'll look at the contract and it says they cover it, but the small print is not clear. Their plan is not clear on the breakdown of what they do and don't cover. I'm paying all this money month after month but I don't really think I'm being taken care of the way I should be. I have AHS in case something is easy to do but I wouldn't recommend them and I would look for a different company. My sister used to be with AHS and she switched. I want them to straighten out my issue with my home policy.

I had an icemaker malfunction so I submitted a request for service online to American Home Shield and they got back, set it up and everything went fine. They were very professional. They troubleshot the problem and explained to me what was going on. Since I use mostly crushed ice it causes a build up in the ice chute. It wasn’t anything that could be fixed. The technician was very good and took the time to make sure there wasn't some malfunction. I also like it that the contractor calls when he's on his way. They give you a 30-minute window once he's contacted you so you don't have to sit around all day and wait.

I may have to call them up and ask about a circuit breaker that might have been shorted out. I don't know if that's just coincidence or not.

It was easy to get in contact with American Home Shield. They contract out to other companies and those companies were professional and had a good time frame for them to come out and do the work. I knew ahead of time what my service fee was, so it wasn't like I had to figure out how much I needed to pay. AHS lets me know what's covered and how much, and that's really good as far as communication was concerned.
Air Supply is one of the contractors that AHS use and they were able to contact me in 48 hours and fixed the problem. I've had two instances where they had to order a part from somewhere else and it took more than 4 days to get. But once they got the parts in, they came out and fixed the problem. I am not an AHS customer anymore because I sold the property in August. I like the low rate that AHS gave for months. It was reasonable, but if they could lessen the service fees a little bit, that would be great. Overall, I was very satisfied and I will use them in the future when I purchase again.

I had an issue with my water heater so I called AHS and the contractor they sent was really good. Usually, that’s not the case because sometimes I have to wait for so many days. The guy did everything he was supposed to then he had to pull a license, and went to Denton County and got the license. American Home Shield was giving me a hard time because they wanted him to pay for it but they said they would pay for it. They backed out of it once we got the estimate. It's not anything that we expect to do. I had no problem with the contractor.
We needed a whole new water heater and now, we've got to pay. That’s the way it's been going lately with AHS, that they aren’t covering what they used to especially on appliances. They always say that it’s not one of them and it’s not normal wear-and-tear. I said it's just old and things wear out. One time, the memory board on the microwave died and the contractor had to wait and order the part. For three weeks, I was without a microwave and an oven because both are attached so the memory worked for them both. There wasn't a rush. The technician came back and put the memory board backwards so it got fried. I said I didn’t want anyone but Sears because it was a higher-end microwave and oven. They said they would replace it and then once they found out that it costs $1,300, they said they'd order another memory board. I had to wait more so I was without for five weeks which was really inconvenient.
We've had other good experiences with AHS but the best experience was the water heater. Sometimes they don’t have the best installers or service so I would request for Sears because I've never had a problem when my service tech comes from them. When I request for a technician from Sears, AHS says that it will take longer but I tell them it's fine, especially when I have a Kenmore product which Sears makes so they have the parts. They’ll call and ask me what's broken and bring out the part if they have it in the store. They always have the right parts and I really liked it when AHS used Sears as the contractor because some of the other groups that they’ve used are really Mickey Mouse, and it takes forever.

AHS replaced my washing machine one year when it couldn’t be fixed and I only had to pay the $50. And then sometime this year, the washing machine wouldn’t start. There was some fuse that had burned out which they replaced and it worked again. They also replaced and fixed a piece of pipe when it broke under my sink.
One winter, the furnace went out. It was an old Lennox and the techs tried to tell the company that it needed to be replaced and the company said that if the techs can't fix it they'll send another set of repairmen. We were two days without heat so that didn’t make us thrilled. I paid to have a new furnace put in because I didn’t want it going out in the middle of winter again and not be able to get it repaired fast. Then, the doors on the refrigerator I had since 2002 had rusted through and the door handles were coming off. They said that it was still working inside and they were not going to replace it. I ended up replacing the refrigerator on my own, too. Those are the only two times that I really was disgusted. Other than that, I’m still paying AHS every month and I've kept the service. I have also recommended them to friends and some people.

Called AHS on Sunday for a clogged kitchen sink. I have out of town company and really needed my kitchen and dishwasher. They promised I'd hear on Monday. By Tuesday morning, no word from the plumber and when I tried to call myself, I was on hold for 20 minutes, then a recording came on "We're very busy right now, please call back. And it hung up on me." I called AHS again (3rd time) and finally got an appointment for Wednesday. "Rite-A-Way" plumbing came out only had a 25 foot hand snake. The guy was really nice and apologetic but his company didn't have an electric snake with a scope. So American Home Shield referred me to another plumber. I couldn't get an appointment until Friday.
When the plumber showed up, he said he had to get approval with AHS to take off the garbage disposal. They DIDN'T approve it, so my husband took it off so the plumber didn't have to. Meanwhile AHS called me and when I complained that this was never discussed with me on Sunday and why did it take so long to attempt to get a plumber to clear the sink and she replied that they had gotten someone out there QUICKLY. Really, 6 days??? Why do they contract with someone that doesn't even have an electric snake???

However, we thought the door was fixed, and then they had to come back out so we had to speak to someone at American Home Shield about it. They brought up our ticket to see what was going on and asked what repairs were made. They called the company that had come out to make sure that they could come back out to check the garage door again. The second time the contractor came out, I was out there while he did the work. When filing a claim with American Home Shield, I’ve never had a problem getting through to anybody and getting something set up. In most times, a contractor gets in touch with me in-between 24 hours after filing the claim. The contractors have all been very respectful, but I’ve had some that are of better quality than others. There was one contractor who didn't do something right and caused damage to my home's flooring, so it had to be replaced. AHS told me it would be the plumber’s responsibility so I went to the plumber and got it taken care of. The plumbing company that was sent out actually paid for the damages.
One thing that I’m learning through AHS is that it would be beneficial for them to provide to their customers some troubleshooting ideas that they can do when they call in for a job. When I called about my water heater, I said I’ve tried this and that and I think it needs to be serviced. Nobody told me to try something else. I paid for someone to show me that when I remove that panel, there is a reset button. That’s all I had to hear. I told the contractor, “I’m paying $75 to learn where the reset button is?” and he goes, “Yes, ma’am.” I know they’re in the business to make money but that was an unnecessary $75 out of my pocket.
But overall, I’ve been pleased with AHS. The plumber they sent out wasn't very careful but was not necessarily a bad plumber. I also haven’t had many service calls to begin with. I typically tell someone that if they have a home like the age of mine and it has equipment that’s been installed for a while, I would recommend AHS. Brand-new homes have most of their equipment under warranty, so AHS is for the life cycle of particular things within the home of a certain age that will need servicing. I also tell others that being a homeowner, there are things I learned along the way that doesn’t necessarily get covered. I also tell them to read AHS' policies and also to go online for their different packages, because not every package fits everybody.

The technician who came was excellent, on point, professional and knew what he was doing. He checked for leaks, put a leak protection inside the system and filled it up with Freon. They only covered a certain amount so we had to pay the deductible and a certain amount for the Freon. Then I had them follow up because there was a certain part of the AC, he told me, that if it gets really hot, there could be a problem. Tim was great. He was really nice, explained to us what the problem was, how the part had to be ordered through the warranty company and then they would let us know. We then requested a second opinion and a technician from a different company said the same thing.
I’m very disappointed with AHS because they didn’t do anything but put Freon in it. I really don’t appreciate it because we’ve been with them for years and when I needed something, they didn’t do the recommendation of the people that they sent out to check the air conditioner. I've been paying them for more than 20 years, and I’m very upset that when I asked to replace something that is needed, they wouldn’t do it. It’s not that we’re hitting them up for a new one, we need a new one.
Also years ago, I had problems with my microwave and they didn’t replace it. They just put a little sealing in it and fixed it that way. I wouldn’t recommend AHS unless they start doing better with what they’re promising after all the money I put into the insurance. This is the first time I ever had anything that really needs a replacement and they refused it. They should honor their word and replace it. In addition, the technician said that the problem with them is that they wait until the unit falls apart and I can’t wait because I live in Florida and the heat is 96 to 100. I cannot go without an air conditioner, so I expect them to come out and give me a new air conditioner.

And then Friday night, it was hot in the house again, so on Sunday, someone came out. But they couldn’t do anything because the AC unit was not powered off. They came out today and said there's a leak in the condenser. And up until now the AC's not fixed yet. I have loved American Home Shield for years. Have been very happy with them and recommended them to many people. That's why when we moved and bought our house and the seller asked if we wanted a policy, I said I want American Home Shield. We don't have many claims, but the first problem we had was with the air conditioning. I went online and put in a work order. I got a response that a company was going to be doing it and they were going to be here in a certain time and date. I went to Better Business Bureau online to check out the contractor company and they have an "F" rating. I contacted American Home Shield but it took about 45 minutes to be able to speak to someone, which was very aggravating. When I spoke to somebody and told her what I found, she said there was nothing she could do about that. And if the contractors didn't show up or if there was a problem with them, then I should call them back.
Sure enough, the contractors didn't show up. So I called back and I had to wait another 45 minutes to an hour. I'd spoken with someone and she said they didn't know why the contractors didn't show up. The rep got that air conditioning company on the phone and they said there was no work order. It turns out, I was supposed to have called them, but the confirmation that I got didn't say anything about my needing to call Sears to confirm the reservation. So I got rescheduled for the second time while I was on the phone. Great. And then, that time came and they didn't come. So once again, I had to call American Home Shield and by then, I was getting a little bit aggravated. I finally got the company here the third time and they did a very nice job. I was happy with them. The guy explained to me why they were "F" rated and it was all due to American Home Shield.
Then, something else happened after that and again, it was another 45 minutes to an hour wait. The last person I've talked to apologized and said she knew they were having lots of problems and they were trying to get more people in. These waits are simply not acceptable to me. It's horrible. So I posted it on my own Facebook and I got in touch with the Better Business Bureau recently and filed a grievance against them. AHS responded back and said they were sorry I felt that way and I certainly could discontinue my membership with them. It would have been nicer for someone from them to call me when I filed that claim and apologized and let me know what they were doing to try to improve it. That would have made all the difference in the world. But they handled that badly.
I'm all about customer service. I'm willing to pay for that and I've worked for companies where customer service was extremely important to us all. And obviously, that isn't the case with AHS. I decided that I'll stay with it until my membership expires, since it was prepaid by the owner of this house and I didn't want to go with more cost. I've told anybody I can, and I have lot of real estate friends, and let them all know not to recommend AHS. They used to be good, but they're horrendous now.

Because we were thinking about remodeling a kitchen, we thought about just buying a unit and having it here but we'll just go with the replacement and get it done. Overall, our experience was fine and we're satisfied.

I am surprised that this company AHS is rated as #1 now since their customer services is going downhill every day. Few years ago, the company handled claims professionally and using excellent reputable companies. However, since last year 2015 and this year the claims handling has been horrible and the contractors used have been with questionable Yelp reviews. I had a simple problem with the drainage motor for my dishwasher and placed a call to AHS whom assigned it to Magic Appliance Inc and after several days trying to get appointment the tech arrived late beyond the promised window of 9 AM - 1 PM and just collected my check and stated it is cheaper to ask AHS for a new one than him fixing it and left.
Few days later, AHS told me the request is denied and not covered and started telling me stories. When I check YELP reviews I figured out what's going on and tried to relate it to one of AHS supervisors whom did not want to even discuss it at all and as a remedy wanted me to try another contractor whom is worse than the other one All Valley Appliances Heating & A/C, Inc. I think we should boycott AHS and its contractors till they deliver services to us for the money we spend in our contracts.

I was having some electrical issues in my son's room and in their bathroom. The electricity was going out sporadically and then sporadically coming back on so I submitted the claim online which was very easy and convenient, then a few hours later someone called to address the issue. We set up a mutual time that we could meet at the house. The electrician came out and replaced the light switch in there and then it worked for a day or so and then it stopped working again. So I had to call the electrician back again. He came back and replaced a panel in the breaker box. The repair was superior and it hasn’t had any issues since then.
The only issue I have is the wait time whenever I have a question for American Home Shield. I'd be on hold for 45 minutes which is not very convenient, especially when I'm at work. But other than that, AHS gives me some security whenever something goes wrong in the house, that I have that freedom to call someone to get it fixed and we don’t have to go searching for someone. I have recommended them to friends.

When American Home Shield did the capacitor for our air conditioner, they were out quick because it was like 115 out here. They did a good job on that so I was really happy. However, I am disappointed with what happened with my washing machine. It took almost four weeks to get it fixed and I had to go to a laundromat once a week. It was expensive and a pain in the butt. AHS sent a guy out and then between AHS and his office, things got mixed up so I told AHS to order the parts instead of giving us the minimal money that we wanted because it wouldn't cover a new washer. But they never ordered the parts so we had to call back again and that's why it took so long.

He was very meticulous in diagnosing the problem (something 3 other contractors could not do). This contractor's level of care and concern rated above any service I have ever received from AHS... He was a 5 star contractor and along a perfect gentleman.

On June 30th, I called about the ice dispenser and the shelves in the door of my Samsung refrigerator. On July 5th they sent out Apex Appliances (Virginia). He said he knew what part it needed, and he would call to finish the job. I'm not sure what he did, but now my ice maker doesn't work. It was at least making ice before.
After about 10 days I called American Home Shield, because I hadn't heard back from Apex, nor could I get in contact with them. They reported that he recommended my refrigerator be replaced because he couldn't find the part to the dispenser I needed. My refrigerator is 5 years old. I was shocked, but American Home Shield said they would and did find the part. They said they were delivering the part to Apex, even though they couldn't get in contact with them nor I. They told me to call back July 19th, that's when the part should be in. However Apex stated in their report, that my door shelves were missing door, therefore they couldn't be replaced. I informed American Home Shield they were broken, but they were there with food on them. The customer service rep said she had to take the word of Apex over me.
The next day I called, a new customer service rep, in a new city, said she believed me, but I wasn't covered under my contract. I informed her I was, and looking at it stated in my contract as we spoke. She said I was wrong again. The next day another customer service representative, in another city, said I was correct, that it was in my contract, and they were going to add it to the order of the ice dispenser part. That's American Home Shield, every different call center tells you something different and has a different story. I've talked to them all: Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, and so on. They told me to call back July 25th, all parts should be delivered to Apex by then. Why it takes weeks for a part coming from St. Louis, Missouri to Virginia, I still don't understand.
Still no one had heard from Apex Appliances or reach them. They told me that if they hadn't got in contact with them by then they would try something different, but they weren't sure what. I called back on the 25th, and they, "We're finally able to get in contact with Apex, after 3 weeks." However they said the door shelves hadn't come in, and they were still waiting for them. Apex said they were waiting to repair the ice dispenser and maker, until the shelves came in, because they didn't want to make two visits. Cut to Apex setting up a date to repair for August 8th. However they never told me a time. I called a few times to find out what time they were coming. I was told between 11AM to 5PM. They told me they were very busy, and they would fit me in when they can.
For 6 hours, I waited only to be told at 5PM that they weren't coming. He told me that American Home Shield order the wrong part, and he wasn't coming, not even to bring the shelves. That was last Monday, and haven't heard a word since. I tried to Google Apex Appliances, to see if I could get another number to a manager. What I found countless reviews of people, saying the same thing. They come and get the $75, and then never hear from them again, American Home Shield continues to use this company, and send them to customers, even though they are cheating them and never getting anything done. Apex Appliances stays busy collecting the $75 but never has time to actually repair anything. I've received the cancelled check, but my refrigerator is in worse shape than before I called them.
I waited a week before I called Apex Appliances or American Home Shield. I think I just felt defeated. I called American Home Shield, and they told me the same line as usual - that there was nothing they could do. They would call Apex, then call me back - the usual brush off. Over the last 45 days, I have called at least 15 times, and I feel like I'm being conservative, with that number. They keep telling me how sorry they are, but there's nothing they can do, but they will call Apex, then call me back. In over 45 days no one has ever called me back! Then American Home Shield ends it with, "Is there anything else they can help me with?" even though they haven't really helped with the first thing.
I once asked to speak to a manager, I think this was Texas or Tennessee. I was given a shift supervisor. When I asked for someone higher, she told me that she wasn't allowed to give out that information, but she could give me the address of the corporate office and I could mail them a letter about my refrigerator. Her actual words. Nobody cares about me... Apex Appliances or American Home Shield. All they care about is whether my money clears. I want action - either fix my refrigerator or replace it! Apex Appliances didn't give me a receipt, so I submitted my cancel check from them.

As a real estate agent I have referred AHS to dozens of clients. I have purchased an AHS warranty for just about every buyer I've had. I myself have had an AHS warranty for many years and thankfully, like auto insurance, it's a great thing to have but hope you never need. I have needed to use it more times than I can count for my AC unit in our new home. Over the past 3 years I've had 4 or 5 calls to AHS about it and even had a company come out on my own for a second opinion. Last Summer the contractor begged AHS to replace the unit after they had spent more money in labor and parts than a new unit would have cost. AHS refused.
Fast forward to this Summer. As soon as the weather heated up in the 90s the unit stops working (again) - exact same issue as the previous times. I ask for the same contractor to come out and I'm told "It doesn't work that way ma'am. You can't choose your contractor." So they send out K and J Mechanical. #1 appointment, they're over 2 hours late with no courtesy call and after giving me a 6 hour window to wait. As soon as dinner hits the table with our 9 guests, they show up. My husband sends them away. The 2nd visit they are a no show and no call at all. The 3rd visit I'm told by the owner that I'm first on the following day's schedule. He promises and apologizes. As a real estate agent I know firsthand how crazy these guy's schedules can be. They have no idea what they're walking into with these calls and they can take 20 minutes or half a day.
Well, the next day at 11:00 I finally call and leave a VM (they never answer the phone, VM only) and tell them I'm leaving. This was my vacation week also, with 9 additional people in my house. The 1st visit to the house, the guy says to me with a straight face "It's hard for us to figure out what's wrong with a unit when we've never worked on it before and we have no idea what the other company did to it last Summer." He also said later in the same visit "How do we know which unit is the upstairs and which is the downstairs?" (They're marked.) The last visit to the house, I have to say I was mad. I told him I was and I told him to fix the unit since they were the ones AHS said I was stuck with and make it blow cold air. They showed me photos of a flooded crawl space and said the air handler needed to be replaced.
26 days later I have yet to hear back. Thanks AHS for making me pay another $100 for Freon AGAIN due to the same leak that was there LAST YEAR. So now, here I am getting ready to call AHS again and have the AC unit worked on again, because lo and behold, it's still not working. As a consumer, STAY AWAY FROM K AND J. Also, after calling AHS the day after the guys came last time, I was told I could absolutely request a specific company. FYI.
AHS is only as good as the people they send out and if all it takes is insurance to be a contractor for them. To be a contractor for American Home Shield, you must be a licensed contractor for the trades you service, carry a minimum of $500,000 in General Liability Insurance, at least $250,000 per occurrence, and provide proof of Workman's Compensation Insurance or a waiver thereof (if self-employed). In addition, you must have proof of auto insurance with limits of $250,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence. $600.00+ a year over 6 or 7 years. Nope, not worth it at all.

For example 1: water heater. This is where I give ZERO stars and had a strong argument with Wife to cancel completely. AHS continued to refuse to service or replace the funny-sounding, increasingly aging water heater. Each time we pay $75 (Service visit) for a look, they say "just wait". OK, we waited! Now the water heater has leaked over the weekend (trip to Payson, we return to find house full of water) and caused $20,000 in damage to the flooring, cabinets, walls, and of course... and then we have no hot water for 10 days, waiting for AHS to get the thing taken care of, charging us to remove it, dispose of it, etc.
For example 2, A/C. I give "Satisfied" review, b/c I should have read the fine print. We have a robust/strong, efficient, older York roof-mounted unit in hot Phoenix metro, Arizona USA. The compressor failed on Sat eve (9pm), 108F (114F high), we have an infant and grandmother at home. Immediately used phone-scheduling of A/C repair, and eventually (40 min later) spoke with a human -- nothing available until Monday. Asked for "expedited service". (Note: THERE IS NO EXPEDITED SERVICE status -- do not expect it. Do not believe anyone who says, "OK, we'll cancel your current appointment and schedule expedited.") They did this later, and we got scheduled for TUESDAY! Morons.
Booked local hotel, then called back for "hotel allowance". (Note: THERE IS NO HOTEL ALLOWANCE -- do not expect it! Do not believe anyone from AHS who says, "Yes of course -- call us back once the Service person has identified the problem.") We spent $625 during the repair days, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri.
A/C bill came to $625. Hmmm, oh YES! AHS only covers $10/lb of R-22, which is currently going at $85/lb times 7 lbs... $525. OH YES, one more thing, $100 for labor to take the R-22 out and put new in. Lastly, the "Buyout" amount to replace the A/C unit was $700, which would be put toward a $6,000 replacement (roof-top). No thanks. We prefer the R-22, even if the president's men force the price up. Overall: Simple sounding, but remember to *read the fine print*. Expect $75 each time. Expect certain strategic loopholes in payments, example: R-22, probably other items as well. And do not expect fast service for a weekend problem. They do not offer this service.

I'm very disappointed with American Home Shield. Back in June, I called because I was getting my dishwasher and my icemaker serviced. The icemaker is not working. And I’ve had six visits from Sears and six different technicians that came out. Each time the technician that comes out after the last technician, there is no record of the last technician that came out. They ordered a part on several occasions that was mailed to my house. Then a new technician would come in and put the part on and saying, “That should fix the problem.” But the problem isn’t fixed. I called in, but they’re very hard to get in contact with. Their automated system is terrible and the wait time is just ridiculous. I stood on the phone for a long time before I can even speak to somebody.
This would be the seventh time somebody come out. They had called a different company and I spoke to them. I was explaining all that was going on and they were saying that since Sears had been handling it thus far and that Sears should finish the job, which I don’t blame them because they don’t know what they have done and it should’ve gotten replaced. And I’m having brand new in part, but it’s still not working. I just spoke with them today and a representative from American Home Shield contacted Sears, and Sears was saying that the last technician that was here said that it was working. It wasn’t working. If it was, ice would’ve been coming out. I am very upset.

When I got home, it had leaked through my ceiling and the ceiling tiles were loose and the carpet was wet, and I am very unhappy with them. I had to put a call in, and it cost me $1,050 and they paid $400.
Also, when I called AHS, I spent a day on hold trying to get something done. And then, it didn't get done right, and I come home from my trip and that's what I found water dripping from the ceiling. The first two contractors that AHS sent were nice. However, they didn't do their job. And the second time they came back, the young man discovered the pan being crooked and that's where the water came from. I've been very discouraged with AHS. My sister has it too and she's had problems in the past. And we're both trying to make up our mind whether we wanted to drop American Home Shield altogether because we pay every month and then when we have a problem, we're the ones that get stuck with most of the cost.

We have utilized your services before on a property we had in Saginaw, TX. Our experience from the past was always efficient and positive service. This assisted us in choosing you for our Home Warranty choice in our new property in Shawnee, OK. Our first experience here in our new home, required our HVAC system to be serviced. The vendor contractor you choose did such an efficient job that we purchased an outside Spring/Fall MX plan with them. We found this to be a life saver on our home in Saginaw, TX as we had done the same there.
However, our last experience in our need of a plumber for a leaky master bath faucet, was not as a quality and timely service. This has no reflection on your company but on the plumber - Vendor/Contractor. He seemed negative when he came out the initial visit about our "cheap" faucet fixtures. This house had a remodel in 2012 and apparently the components to the fixtures were from a local Ace Hardware Store. It took him 2.5 weeks to get back to us as he said they were out of the part and had to order it. It seemed I always had to track them down from week to week to see what the delay was. Now, once again, we have a leaky master bathroom faucet! Very disappointing!

I had to deal with American Home Shield several times in the past always with some disappointment. After selling and buying new home I was being pushed to deal with this company once again (did not get a choice but was being forced to make business with American Home Shield). My recent experience with American Home Shield just ensure me to never, ever do business with them and take all the necessary steps to let everyone know who American Home Shield really is.
In July 2016 my ac stop working (did not blow cold air). I contact the American Home Shield to help me resolve the issue since my ac was under the contract. I was being told that they do not have anybody in my area to help me with this. I asked American Home Shield to let me find somebody and they can cover the bill or reimburse me the money paid for insurgence with them. After going back and forth (and also me contacting BBB about them not fulfilling parts of their contract) American Home Shield send a contractor out of area. The contractor did not repair the issue. Charge me additional fee for freon - but my ac did not ever blow cold air. Once again I contact American Home Shield (it took another week or so). The same contractor show up, replace part in my outdoor ac unit and left. After couple hours my ac stop working. We shut down the ac unit completely (since some parts of it like the fan in attic was still working).
My frustration reach a boiling point when we notice water dripping from my attic (it was coming from the shut down unit - I am just gonna add that we have two units in the house). I immediately contact American Home Shield and ask them to send me somebody as soon as possible due to a water leak. I was being told by somebody on the phone (which was Saturday) that they will send somebody but I do have to deal with this same contractor since he was working on the unit from the beginning (I clearly ask for somebody else).
The contractor contact us the following Monday evening and was trying to schedule appointment with me the next tuesday. I did not agree to that (because he responded to us 3 days after reporting the water leak). Due to the extensive water leak from my ac unit (due to a clog water drain pipe from that unit - which was the main issue with my ac from the beginning) I already took a steps to find me somebody who could respond to my emergency - when I need it. A local ac guy and SERVPRo were already working in my house. American Home Shield clearly show negligence and ignore my issue. Their contractor took 3 full days to contact me. In a result I was being left without ceiling (which collapse over that weekend - with all of my 5 kids being in the house), two walls and floor (the estimate damages were $5500).
I am mad with the incompetent contractor dispatch to my house but I hold American Home Shield responsible for all this. The American Home Shield send me somebody incompetent (since I had to call them several times about this same unit, and this same issue in 3 weeks period). They did not allow me to have a different contractor, they completely ignore the fact I had a water dripping from my ceiling (and it was a repeating time I had to call them), they did not do any follow ups with me whatsoever after the incident occur. They do not want take responsibilities for damages to my property (which all could be avoided in first place if the job was done right). American Home Shield is a scam. It is not worth the money paid. Their contractor did not repair the issue and cost bigger damages. American Home Shield claim they are not responsible.

I am absolutely unhappy with AHS because first of all, it takes 30 minutes to get a representative on the phone. All I do is dial the phone number and let my phone sit on the table. When I pick up the phone, it tells me how long I've had to wait. It's always been a timed period and this last time, we needed 27 minutes to get through. I view AHS as my vendor for they're the ones I pay. They in turn go out and hire other people to perform the work that was agreed upon. So those people are not my employees, American Home Shield is.
I had to have their serviceman out earlier in the year for my air conditioning. He added Freon and it seemed to work. There wasn't a day in North Carolina that hasn’t been in the mid to high 90s, and in some cases, 100 degrees. When the serviceman said the compressor needed to replaced, he said, “Okay, we should have it by Wednesday,” which was yesterday. The compressor is sitting in the shop of the repairman but he wasn’t in his shop all day yesterday. When I spoke with American Home Shield yesterday, they called the repairman and he was supposed to have called me last night so I would get an update as to where the compressor was but he did not. When I called the repairman at 7:00 this morning, I left a message for him but he didn’t call me back.
When I finally got a hold of him this afternoon, he said, “I should be out there Monday. I think your compressor is in my shop.” I said, “Wait a minute. You knew it was gonna be there Wednesday. You haven't been in your shop. Because I'm scheduling three days out in advance. I don’t have any time.” And I said to him, “I realize you don’t work for me. You work for American Home Shield.” And American Home Shield said, “Well, they don’t have to come out. It is a 48-hour window.” That 48-hour window got lost on August 2nd.
Meanwhile, it's hellacious in the house and horrible. I pay American Home Shield so they need to provide the technicians to make good on their contract promises regardless of what time of the year it is. I had and have recommended AHS. In this case, it's not their fault. More and more requests are getting into American Home Shield to fix the air conditioning but they’ve only got one guy to do it. He's only got so much time in the day and he's got to follow a procedure or protocol. They need more than one gentleman.
It cost me $225 for an $1800 compressor. They’ve saved me a tremendous amount of money for which I'm very thankful. And I know, when the unit comes in, it'll be done right because this man has done work for me before. But there's a level of service I'm accustomed to receiving that I didn’t get in this instance. I've had some plumbing issues for three days. The bolts on the tank rusted and they couldn’t get them off so they just replaced the whole toilet. They did a wonderful job on that.

My air conditioner quit cooling so I filed a claim to have someone come out to replace a coil and put new freon in it. When I submitted a claim, the people over at AHS were always more than helpful. They're pretty quick on getting a technician out and repairing it correctly. I never had any problems. The contractors were courteous, prompt, giving me a time when they'd be here. The unit has been working perfectly after the repair. AHS is a godsend and I'm so glad I had them. Home repairs can be really expensive and all I had to do is pay a $75 service fee and they fixed the rest of it for no cost. And the monthly premiums, I paid $50 something a month. I thought that was very reasonable for everything they were covering in my home.

I've been an American Home Shield user for more than 20 years. One of our system's air conditioning unit was suspected to be leaking and the contractor called within two hours after I submitted the claim online. The contractor was a company that has candidly come out to my house before and the same technician who had helped me before so I'm comfortable with him. They've always proven to be on time and reasonable in their diagnosis and suggestions. It turned out that what they came out to do was not the issue I suspected but they showed me why it was normal for the time of the year and the kind of equipment I had.
Several weeks after the technician came out, I noticed another small problem with one of my outside air conditioning units. But when I submitted another claim online, it looked like American Home Shield had locked me out. I don't know if their system does not allow to file a similar claim. Maybe they wanna speak to me first and understand if it's a recall. But it's confusing because normally, I can click online and it's a fairly short process. Whenever I had to call AHS, especially during the summer, it's very hard to get to somebody live. It's annoying when I can't progress past the online portion, which I've become very accustomed to using.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield to fix toilets which were leaking. Everything was really good. The only thing is I would love to see them work on their online presence. Like in this case, we had them come out to work on two toilets, and there's actually no way to do that online. Leaking toilets is not an option you can put and they don't give you a spot where you can type in what the issue is online. Their online website could be a little better but once you get someone on the phone, it's fine.
We've had the contractors out here multiple times before and they're just a really good company. They took care of things very quickly, very well-done. The gentleman who was here has been here twice before. He was with the same fairly large company. The toilets are now working as they're supposed to. American Home Shield is usually consistent, quick to get people out and deliver on their services as promised but there had been a couple of instances over the last several years where we've had to escalate some issues that they tried not to cover that eventually did get covered. That was a little irritating, but we worked through that. If it's really basic stuff, it's usually not a problem.

I put in an order for my refrigerator and air conditioner. I have two air conditioners and American Home Shield said the second one wasn’t covered, but it was covered. I was told that when it was time to renew my contract, I had to add it, which I did and it was already there. So I ended up having to get a new air conditioner and because I called in someone outside to service it, I cancelled the coverage. I had to pay and AHS was going to reimburse me for the $100 because of the discrepancy that I had with the air conditioner, but I haven't received it. I’ve been waiting on a refund for the last three months.
The process of getting through to them to file a claim is fine. But when they did send someone out for the air conditioner, I never got a receipt. I called AHS and they said they were going to contact the vendor. I also did that but still never got a receipt, so I don’t have proof that I had the service done, other than AHS knowing that I made the service call. But the techs who fixed the air conditioner did a good job although they couldn't speak English well. I've had AHS for a few years now and it's been a good service prior to this AC situation. Whenever I've called, they’ve always taken care of the situation. I would recommend them to someone else.

We have had AHS since Oct. of 2015. In that time, we have had to call for service with our AC units 4 times. We have poured over $800 of Freon into the two systems and had various other items that got "fixed" so that our units would be working properly. Both of our units continue to have issues and freeze up, which causes them to stop working. Friday was the last time that we had this issue. This was a follow up to the first issue that we had back in December where the condenser had frozen and backed up into the duct work.
When the air was turned back on it caused the water to drain. The drip pan sensor didn't stop it or turn it off and water overflowed. It went down through the walls and left water damage on the ceiling and walls that is not covered by warranty. At that time we put $600 worth of Freon into the system and had various other things done and it worked. On Friday, we came home to the air still running, water pouring out from the ceiling and further damage now on first floor. We were given the run around, left on the line for long periods of holding to be told that no one could come out until Monday at an unspecified time between 9 am and midnight.
We called back and were on hold again and then were told that they would escalate the call and someone would have to respond and call us back to give us outside authorization to call in another company. Contrary to this, no one called. We called back and waited over an hour on the line to get someone. That person first told us we could have outside authorization, but then said that there was a company that was going to come out and they would call us within 30 minutes. After 1 hour we hadn't heard anything and tried to call back and were on hold for 40 minutes before we finally hung up.
Saturday morning we were told there was no record of anyone telling us that this company would come out. We were given outside authorization and told how to handle that situation. The outside company came, found the situations, told us that the system is leaking Freon, the coil is rusted and rotted and not put in right, some other things are not installed correctly and we could put more freon in, but it would continue to leak, freeze and cause the damage that is already occurring in our house to continue. Their recommendation was a new unit.
We have a written report from them and tried to call AHS with the information and were told that they weren't going to listen to anything, read the report, etc. because they needed to speak to the service tech (who wasn't allowed to talk to the warranty company by their company). It is very frustrating to constantly be given the run around, to be told that we need to pour more out of pocket money into the system for Freon when we know it is leaking it.
AHS keeps trying to "patch" the problem and not fix it, which has caused us more problems in our house that aren't covered under the warranty and we have to pay out of pocket. All the while, they keep reassuring us that "they really do care" and "they want to help us." Meanwhile we are stuck with no air conditioning, two young kids and animals sitting in the hot house, and no solution in sight to get this truly fixed because we have to wait until another company can come out and look at the issues and "fix" them.

I forgot to clean the filter so the HVAC system wasn't cooling right. The reps of AHS answer the phone quickly and they’re really nice. They usually have someone out the next day. The HVAC system is working great now. I submitted a lot of claims this year because I got an HUD home and AHS has been great. I wished I’ve gotten it when we bought the home because they could’ve paid that $5,000 for the new system, but we got them too late so we’re out $5,000. We’ve been waiting for the stove, microwave, and washer and dryer to go so they can replace them too.

My last claim with American Home Shield was my hot water heater. I had an air conditioner problem before that, and the contractors were up there looking and said that the hot water heater was sitting in a pan of water and probably needed replacing. Lone Star was the company that came out and they were great. They even gave me their cellphone number in case that there was a big problem after they put the new one in. I could call them right away and they'd come right back. Everything has been good ever since. An inspector just has to come back to make sure things are at code and they have to haul away the old water heater.
The claims people were great. The only dislike I had was trying to get in to speak to someone on the phone at American Home Shield, which takes so long. One time I had to wait on the line 43 minutes and the other time 42 minutes and that was not good. I prefer to talk to a human being rather than put something down on a computer. And I know the contractors have the same problem because they have to call too. They also say they have to wait on the line at least a half an hour to an hour each time.

I had a 5 years old water heater which started to leak about a month ago. I made a service request with Home Shield and they sent a technician from ON TIME PLUMBING COMPANY. The technician suggested that the water heater needs to be changed. Home Shield warranty covered the cost of water heater but the technician who they sent to my house charged me $850 for installation + $75 service fee the total of $925 which I think was a lot but that is not the issue. The problem is that the water heater still leaking and whenever I call to Home Shield for service request for the same issue they refuse to send the technician to fix the problem.
Now I am here with $925 lost and a water heater that even leaks more than before... I have made a complaint to the supervisor by the name of Sue, and I was told that someone will get back to me in 24 hours but it has been 5 days and no one has called me back and they are refusing to send me another technician to fix the problem.

I contacted American Home Shield about my broken dishwasher on July 29th. It is now August 12th and it's still not repaired. Bay to Bay came out on August 2nd and said they had to order a part. Well they came back on August 10th and guess what? Wrong Part!!! So now we are waiting for the correct part to arrive. Of course they didn't overnight the part to make it convenient for the customer, cause we should be punished for someone else's mistake! No accountability for these companies nowadays. So who knows how long this will take and I've already paid the $100.00 deductible. Not satisfied at all. I couldn't imagine if my air conditioner refrigerator went out. Think twice before falling for this terrible home insurance company. Unless they make this right I will be dropping this coverage.
UPDATED ON 08/25/2015: Dishwasher still not fixed and now it is August 25th. They keep responding to my reviews that they will contact me but that has never happened. If you have a problem and contact their number it's always the same thing "Oh I have to transfer you to somebody else" and when they tell you something over the phone they never put it in their computer like when they said last if this second part didn't fix my dishwasher they would pay me out for it. Well I called today and of course there are no notes in the computer from a lady named Rebecca who told me she would put notes in there to pay me out if these parts were wrong. So here it is almost 30 days since my claim was put in and I am still hand washing dishes for a family of four. This is totally unacceptable. This is cost me $40 a month plus $100 deductible for them to come out. What a waste of money.
My advice to anyone thinking about getting a home warranty is to think about how long you want to wait before they fix your dishwasher, refrigerator, air conditioner. Save your money because the warranty with American Home Shield isn't worth the ink it's printed with. You will see a representative from their company I'm sure saying that they are sorry to hear this and they will look into it and contact me back. I assure you that never happens and has never happened. It's their attempt at damage control. Buy an extended warranty from the manufacturer of anything you purchase. It will be money much better spent.

I had AHS come for appliances that weren't working right. One, in particular, is my dishwasher and they've never been able to find the problem but they haven't offered to replace it. It's a noise problem and they said they don't handle noise, but they've sent three different people out. I'm not too happy about that. I can't put up with this, this dishwasher for way too long. We also had to get them for a hot water heater and that worked well but it's some of the people who contract with them, I end up spending more than I thought I should have.
On the other hand, our most recent claim worked out okay. We have an extremely high temperature, here in the Phoenix area. So all the air conditioning companies are very busy. At first, I was told I was going to have to wait a week before they could get someone here. But I had had it serviced just less than a week prior to that. So I called that company and they were able to get here the next day. It worked out fine, though it took a little more work on my part to get it happen sooner. So after the repair, I have to give them another call. It's working but we think there are some things that are not working right. Overall, I'm not dissatisfied but I was just unsure of some of the things that took place. We are wondering whether or not to continue with the insurance.

I have dropped American Home Shield. We called them out recently because the clothes dryer wasn’t drying. We paid $100 for the guy to check it out which took him 5 minutes. He said that it wasn't the dryer but the vent which is not part of the contract so we had to have somebody else come out to clean the vent. So it’s costing us more money than we had expected and we thought it would be from stem to stern, but that’s not the case. We did a couple of those kinds of things and we got the same kind of results. We still had to shell out money for extra services, that somebody else had to solve the problem. The last guy we talked to, we told him we had another problem with our ice maker on the refrigerator and he said that he thought it's not covered. So we felt that this is not the plan for us.

So he had called an electrician to come and repair that. It was kind of weird especially that I was all the way across the country when that happened. The electrician got in touch with me and he was ready to come out right then since it was an electrical issue. I told him I’m going to have him wait the next day because I was not in the state and I have to get somebody to open my house. So he called the next day to set up the time for that day. He was right on it. The performance since the repair has been fine plus I have an air conditioner to use. AHS has been responsive and easy to contact. They also contacted me about the service provider I haven't paid.

I had bought a house and within a couple of weeks, the AC stopped working outside. I contacted AHS and they got someone out within two days. When I submitted the claim, they asked me what was going on, specifically what part of it. They set up the appointment and gave me the phone number just in case and the person that I'd be speaking with and the contractor called right away. The reps were very kind, respectful and easy to talk to. I had questions about how it works, how much I had to pay and what it includes when it comes to an AC unit and they were able to explain all that as well. They were fast, reliable, and easy to work with.
The contractor who came out was very helpful and knew exactly what was wrong with it, which was great. The only issue was he didn't have it on his truck. But he called around to other people that he works with and was able to run off and get it. He was back within a half hour and fixed it with no problem. He was quick and easy. I was very happy with AHS and I've recommended them already to friends.

When I first started with American Home Shield almost 30 years ago, the payout deductible was $35 and now it's $75. But with inflation and the cost of living, $75 is pretty good for somebody coming out taking care of what needs to be done. And to me, it's worth the money because you don't have to worry. I'm one of the good ones that has had really good experiences with them. It's been awesome, mindless and hassle-free for me. I recently remarried in 2008 and my new husband didn't believe in any of these warranties. He thought that it was a mess, wasn't worth the money and would have you. However, I stood my ground and said I've had them for years and that I'm not changing. So he has come to accept it and he likes the experience.
I had a problem with a local person, and once I advised AHS that he wasn't professional, they took him off of the list. Except for that one, the contractors they sent out were pleasant and explained what they're doing. I've been very satisfied. Then in the most recent claim I filed, I had a problem with the measurements but it worked out perfectly and everything came in the way that it was supposed to come in.

He puts posted lbs in and our Air Conditioner works great. He said most Heating and Air guys don't know anything about pac Units they take a higher psi. He said the other guy was probably an amateur. They cover more, service better, have good contact with the client, and deliver.
