My garbage disposal broke and needed to be replaced. It was easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online and their website was user friendly. They're effective and professional. The techs they sent were also professional and good. They came in, got the job done and the performance of the garbage disposal was awesome after the repair. It's a pretty straightforward gig and I’ve been an AHS customer for a long time so I know the drill.

We've been with American Home Shield for about 15 years now and with my recent experience with them, I've been very dissatisfied. It started in June with our air conditioner. On June the 2nd, we called out A-1 Air Conditioning out in Heber Springs. They came out, cleaned the unit and said it needed Freon. I paid for the Freon and the service fee. Two weeks later, it quit working. The blade quit turning outside and it was 90 degrees. I have lupus and a heart problem and my husband has Alzheimer’s so I explained everything to AHS and they said they would put it on as an emergency. That was about 3:00 in the afternoon and we stayed here because it's hard to get my husband moved around, but I never heard from AHS or the company. At 7:00, I called AHS back and they said that somebody would be out the next day. It was already 8:00 so we stayed in the house.

The next day, about 2:00 somebody came out. We had some friends come and pick us up and I had to move everything to their house and we couldn't stay here. The technician put a new blade in because the old one quit turning completely and said that the air would be fine. We spent the night out because it took that long to get the house cooled. We came in the next morning and I heard this terrible rattling sound. You could hear it from the street rattling and the neighbors next-door had to sleep with it like that. I went out and took a video on my iPad of how bad the sound was. I was so angry at that point. I'm 77 and was so upset with all these. I couldn't deal with stress very well at all during that period and it was hard for me to even make decisions.

Also, the technician just used some ties to hold the blade up. I was not pleased the company. I called them and told them that my air conditioner was rattling all over the place. The technician came out that afternoon and said they don't make blades for my air conditioner anymore because it's 20 years old. He had to go get a bigger blade and put it in the air conditioner but it was too big that's why the rattling was going on. I asked why he did not call AHS and he said that was not the way it worked. He said that all he could do was file a thing and then it was AHS's decision what to do. I had been on the phone with AHS and I told him that AHS told me that I could have an air conditioner if he filed the report.

I went back and forth on the phone for seven hours off and on all day Wednesday with AHS and the contractor. The worst thing was being put on hold so much. It was 45 minutes at one time and an hour another time. I know the air conditioners are going out and it's summer, but still there ought to be some way for me not to have to be on that phone 45 minutes waiting for an answer. Their help here was as bad as that, but every person I talked to with AHS had been wonderful. They were understanding, kind and sweet. I had one girl stay on the line with me and she tried her best. She even told me she got on the phone and talked to this company to get this done while we were talking. But even though I'm complimenting on the people, the service was very disappointing. They kept saying they were going to an emergency thing too but I never got an emergency thing because it was over 24 hours when I got my service out here.

Then when the technicians were putting my air conditioner in, they broke my gas exhaust. I just happened to come back to get some clothes when they were here. I asked how things were going and the technician said they think they broke a pipe. I asked them if they were leaving it like that and they said they would be back as soon as they could to work it in as they were so busy right then.

Also, they were working outside and I didn't mind them coming in my house. But, when I walked into the house, the doors going into my laundry room and my kitchen were both open, as well as my kitchen window. I had three doors and I didn't mind my garage door open but there was no reason to have my other doors open. We have some snakes in the area and I keep my doors closed. That was another thing and it was not professional. I would not want to use them again, if not for the pipe they have to fix. They called me yesterday and they're supposed to be coming on Monday to fix that.

I didn’t know where the problem was, whether it was AHS or the contractor because the contractor would tell me one thing and American Home Shield would tell me another thing. But I was very unsatisfied. However, AHS gave me $125 to go buy a smaller air conditioner through this period since I've gone through so much. I've got good service that I could go spend up to $125 on a small air conditioning unit but I didn’t do that because I didn’t have the $100 to go out and spend. I live on Social Security and I don’t have any extra at all, but I'm thankful that they offered it to me.

I had a plumbing and bathtub faucet issue and American Home Shield has been prompt and professional in fixing the issues. I called and spoke to a representative who set up the claim and appointment. He walked me through the process and made it easy. He knew what I was talking about, gave me a bunch of details, and got my claim to the right contractor. Within two minutes after I hung up with him, I got a verification of a plumber coming. Then within three hours, the company called and set up an appointment. The contractor was right on time, very pleasant and easy to deal with. They did their job and left, and everything was perfect. If I'll buy a house, I’ll be using AHS. It's worth it.

The air conditioning wasn't cooling so I called American Home Shield and they dispatched a person out for me. The contractor was nice enough and saw the problem. But I had to contact them a couple of times because they were gonna order the part and get back to me and it was a few days more than the days that he had mentioned. So when I called, it wasn't a problem and they immediately said that the order didn't come in, but they were able to get back in time and I've been happy with the experience.

The biggest issue we've had was that we have a unique heating and cooling system that took three weeks to resolve but I still don’t think it's done because the cooling portion was not cooling. If it gets warm outside, 85 to 95 degrees, the unit comes on and it runs all day long and it doesn’t seem like it's operating correctly.

They sent out a heating and air conditioning guy the first time we called and we paid the $75 service fee and he said, “Not my problem. It's your pump.” I called American Home Shield back and they said that our pump was not covered. Then we had to call a plumber on our own and $150 later he said, “Not my problem. You need an electrician.” We called American Home Shield back and they said, “Oh well, an electrician is covered. Here’s your $75.” I said “Wait a minute, it's the same problem. You didn’t resolve it the first time, so this should be the same issue and the same ticket.”

Then they agreed and don’t have to pay $75. And they sent out an electrician who said, “Oh, not my problem. You need and HVAC guy.” We're back to where we started. I called American Home Shield back and I said, “Listen, we're going on three weeks without cold air and we live in Florida. This is not a good and happy thing.” And she said, “Okay.” Then said, “Oh, you’ve got a geothermal heat pump water to air open loop system. Your pump would have been covered. It’s our bad.”

This is not the most stellar of experiences and now I got a bill from them because they sent a HVAC guy that knew what he was doing and what kind of system we have. Although he got it fixed, they did say it is still related to the first issue. The next week, we had to call them back and they said, “Oh, this is a brand new call.” No it’s not and this is still the same issue. It's getting colder, because the guy that finally came out here did resolve two issues, but we were still having some problems. It's not getting cold enough and the unit runs all day and I still need to call them back. They said, “Oh well. Sorry. I don’t know how to tie that back to the original call ticket, so you're going to have to pay $75.” I said, “You know what, do whatever you got to do, fine, but just get somebody out here.”

They charged us the $75 and then they refunded it and were able to tie it back to the original ticket. They also sent out a guy that said, “Oh, you're low on Freon.” And he put a pound of Freon in but American Home Shield will not pay his X dollar amount and we had to pay $40 out of pocket. It’s fine because it's on the contract, but then I got a bill for the $75 service call. I need to call them back and say that this is all tied together and I don’t owe $75 again and they said, “Send me a copy of the bill for the plumber and we'll see if we can get you reimbursed,” but the email I got was not a valid email and I could never get a hold of them again.

We relocated and we’re getting unpacked and trying to get the house situated because the first three weeks, nothing got done then we finally got some portable room air conditioners. Also, our garage door doesn’t operate correctly and I haven’t called them about it yet because it put me off and I'm not ready to deal with the hassle. It really has saved us money but it has been frustrating. Our experience has been atypical but I would recommend American Home Shield. If you're buying a home you should probably get a home warranty because it does protect a new homeowner. If they're the only game in town, you're better off paying them and take your chance.

I haven't had any problem at all with American Home Shield. It's always very good. The problems we've had have not been with the contractors but with repairs. We have an older house where the main issue is plumbing, and a lot of times it's been the same contractor. They've been wonderful and great. Since the repairs, I'm very happy with the performance and I'm glad we have it. They have been professional and very thorough. We've had nothing but an excellent experience.

My refrigerator stops being cold along with the freezer, and working with American Home Shield was fine. They were very good. It was working with Miller Appliance that was horrible, and I would never recommend them to anyone. They have 48 hours from when you submit your claim to come out to your house. It was all weekend. I submitted it on a Thursday and they came on a Tuesday of the next week. I have two young kids and I was without a refrigerator and freezer for six days before anyone looked at it. And then, they looked at it and told my uncle who was there with my kids that day, that they knew what it was, and that the part would take four to five days to come in, but it'll be two and a half weeks before I could get the part installed.

Also, the person who installed the piece was going on vacation. Therefore, I was without a refrigerator for almost three weeks but they did come earlier than they said once I called American Home Shield back and they made an issue also. American Home Shield is good however, it does not pick the best contractors to work with and we've had not so great experiences before. Nevertheless, I let them know that I think they need to get better quality contractors if they want to keep people using their home warranty.

I was very displeased with the customer service (cumulative hours spent on hold) and the payout AHS decided was appropriate when my air conditioner broke. They only allowed $501 for a compressor replacement and I asked for "cash out" so I could replace the unit since it was 20 years old. Even the repairman said it would be considerably over $501 for the compressor replacement. AHS said it was because they got a discount.

So I accepted the $501 (no other choice really) and replaced the entire unit. I posted a very unfavorable review on several sites. A person from the review department contacted me and said she would look into it and see if there was a way for them to increase the payout based on my situation. She was the first person I talked to at AHS that really acted like she could help me.

After a few weeks she contacted me again and said they decided I was due an ADDITIONAL $1800, for a total of $2301. I was very pleased that they adjusted my payout but not so pleased that I had to go through so much trouble and time to get them to review the situation. I have been covered with them for several years and any small repair was handled properly although the customer service line is horrible, even for the contractors. I eventually canceled my coverage with AHS but I am satisfied with the adjusted payout. Thanks whoever you are that took care of this for me!

I have used AHS for years and they are fine for small repair work. Sometimes I would have probably saved money by calling a repairmen direct instead of paying the service fee but still ok service. That all ENDED when my 20+ year old AC went out. I have had it fixed several times, paying the service fee each time plus the overage for coolant! This time it is the compressor and I understand that AHS will only give me the cost of the compressor if I want to "cash out" and absorb the cost of a new unit which is the prudent thing to do.

I have had to call them 3 times (so far) and on hold for over an hour each time. They said I will have to pay $660 for coolant ($75 service fee) plus they will only give me "up to" $500 for the compressor even though it would cost over $1500 at a minimum to fix it. I would gladly pay the difference and get a new unit but $500 towards a new unit??? And they say I have no other recourse. Now I have to call them again 8-5 CST and wait over an hour to talk to the Options people. This is getting crazy ridiculous. They are fine as long as it is a small repair but the $500 offer for a new compressor is not fine. I do not recommend AHS.

Our home air-conditioning went out this past Thursday afternoon. I called AHS and reported the outage. AHS contacted the local vendor that would do the repair and gave them 24 hours to respond to our call. Caroline at AHS explain to me that they had 24 hours of work week business days and that is why they had not contacted me to schedule an appointment. I explained to Carolyn that we are in a part of the country that is in the throes of a heat wave with temperatures at 97, 98 and 100 degrees. I also explained to Caroline that I'm disabled and the heat is physically making me ill. She then did something that I did not expect, she told me that that is a special circumstance in that the situation would qualify for an expedited service call.

She then contacted Hurliman Air Conditioning and the service representative was at my house within an hour. I need to add the fact that this was on a Saturday. Cameron, the service tech for Hurliman Air Conditioning, was wonderful and even though he had to order a special blower motor for our furnace/air-conditioner he did it and had it installed first thing the next morning. I am so impressed with both companies I can't begin to tell you what it meant to me so yes I highly recommend both of these companies.

Our washing machine broke down at the beginning of July, so we made claim thru AHS. They sent out a sears technician as it's a Whirlpool washing machine. The tech spent about 45 minutes troubleshooting the machine and said that the parts failing on the machine were too major/expensive to replace and he recommended full replacement. He called into AHS giving them full detail of the issue and told us they should be in contact with us in the next day or two regarding the replacement process. This was on a Friday, so I figured maybe Tuesday. So, hearing nothing from them, I called and they said, "Oh, no - your machine is only 4 -1/2 years old, it needs to be fixed - we will contact Sears again and get back to you." This went on for four more days, they kept saying they'll get back to me with no response.

Finally, I got in touch with a caring Rep at AHS & he promised to get back to me by the next day with information. Someone finally called me the next afternoon (the second Friday after the machine broke) and said they would like to send another company out, because they basically didn't trust Sears or didn't want to replace the machine. So they sent someone from a local company that looked at it for about 2 minutes and said they knew exactly what the problem was & they would have to order parts. I didn't care - I just wanted a working machine - old or new. This was on a Monday and I called several times that week to find out when they would be getting back to me - they finally called me on Thursday and made an appointment for the following week. Thinking the machine would finally get fixed, I tried to continue to be patient. This was a hoax - they couldn't come until Wednesday because they needed two techs to repair the machine.

After being there for several hours, they said they needed to order another part. They got the part that FRIDAY (third Friday now) and didn't call me until Monday (after I called them) and came out the next day. After installing the additional part, the guy said the machine COULD NOT be repaired. He had done all he could and he would report this to AHS, AGAIN recommending replacement. I was so irate, I didn't call AHS in fear I might say something mean. I waited until the next day when they responded that they wanted a THIRD opinion on the machine by Whirlpool. I was beside myself - why would they send out incompetent people - apparently they think this if they don't trust their opinion? I for the life of me cannot understand why they want to spend SO much money on service calls and parts (my machine costs under $500) and inconvenience me so VERY much? This is the most ridiculous thing.

We have actually gone out and bought a new (comparable) machine with our own funds which will come on Friday. However, I'm still going to let them follow up and spend all the money they want trying to fix my piece of junk machine that is UNREPAIRABLE. I have been out five half days of work between myself, my daughter and my husband. Have not had a machine since July 5. And they want to send someone else out, see if they can fix it and order MORE parts?! I am totally done with this company after this fiasco is done. I've been with them for several years, but this has ruined their reputation for me.

The representatives at AHS are professional and kind, as I believe they are trained this way; I'm not complaining about them - I'm complaining about the Authorization department and their bad decisions. Also, HUGE complaints by the Service Techs from Sears, Whirlpool and Local Company that they have wait times of up to 1 - 2-1/2 hours on the phone to get thru to AHS with their diagnosis. This is sick.

Our water heater broke. AHS sent us a service company that never treated us like a customer and then tried to gouge us in $570 of additional costs. AHS offered no assistance in arbitrating the situation, but they would provide 100% coverage on the tank. I denied service to their assigned rep, and got cash replacement cost covering only 57% of a standard tank replacement. WHY have I been paying AHS money, who forces me to use their service reps, and then if you try to resolve it through your own contracted licensed service provider, then I only get 57% coverage. NEVER AGAIN, cancelled! Now the question is WHY would you pay them money? Set the money aside and use service providers you trust.

The rep I talked to was very professional, explained all the procedures that I was going to take for this and who the contact person was. Then the contractor who came out was very knowledgeable and gave me some tips on things to do as preventive measures. The refrigerator is doing great since the repair and I wish I had AHS to call a long time ago.

When I had a plumbing problem, I had Roto-Rooter come out and fix it. I ended up having to pay for it. I forgot I had AHS and that I could’ve had the service done through them. When I called AHS to ask if they could assist me with the bill, no one seemed to find the supervisor and help me. Other than that, their program is excellent. If they can’t fix the appliance, they will give their customer a new one. It’s a great deal and can’t be beaten. AHS is highly recommendable and important to homeowners, even those who are in apartments. I got my mom to join and my sister is wanting to join as well. But AHS need some type of incentive for a customer who recommends people to their company. I called them about it but they don’t have anything.

In my 51 years of life, I've never gone on a public forum to negatively comment on a business. But frankly, my recent experience with American Home Shield has shown me just how customer service is no longer a priority and how the best insurance policy is one that involves putting cash in a mason jar and burying it in your back yard. I'm only giving American Home Shield one star because I cannot give them anything less. After paying them every month for 10 years, AHS is refusing to pay for a/c repairs (and replacement) because their preferred technician failed to properly diagnose and repair the issue not once but twice. After the third breakdown, AHS was contacted, and AHS promised an expedited visit by another of their vendors because of health issues that were complicated by the July heat.

After hearing nothing from the promised vendor, AHS was contacted again, and we were told that they had not heard back from the vendor and did not offer to contact another one. A simple on-line search provided us several a/c companies to check with, all of whom were highly rated and offered same day service. Because of the extreme heat, we contacted one, was serviced by that company immediately and we paid the expenses incurred. That same vendor was quick, efficient, and was very candid with us regarding the life of the unit. Basically, it is time to replace the unit and now AHS is refusing to pay for the replacement because they did not authorize the vendor we were forced to look for to come out. They also will not reimburse any of the out-of-pocket expenses incurred though AHS failed to live up their promise of expedited service. A total 10-year waste of money to people who don't follow through on promises.

Emergency plumbing - not available on Most Expensive Plan. Bought a home with the highest coverage. Tried to use the online request for service but it did not register my contract number, so I called the 1-800 service number, which I believe is manned by a India call center from the broken English of the Customer Service Representative. I should have selected Spanish. The conversation may have turned out differently.

First, it took 40 mins to get to a customer service rep, then there were some communication issues. Finally, I got him to understand that my faucet to the master bath was severely leaking and water was standing in my bathroom. I just bought the home four days ago and not sure how to turn off the water at the main. I need a plumber ASAP, today. The customer service rep informed me that he needed a card to bill my deductible before he could send out someone–no problem, gave him the information. Then he proceeded to tell me that the servicing company would come out sometime tomorrow–AHS does not offer 24-hour service. So much for emergency repairs. Most of the time repairs are emergencies. This service is a scam. Don't buy into it. I lost $75.00 plus the $675 plus I am now paying full price for an emergency plumbing call. AHS is a rip off.

Our air conditioner stopped working and so we submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. However, the companies that they contract with were overloaded. And so, it took several days to get someone out, which was frustrating because it was really hot. But, once their contractor came out, they fixed my unit. Since the repair, the performance of my air conditioner has been great.

I've got an outstanding claim with American Home Shield which will be handled next week. I had a very nice interaction with the lady representative that I talked to and she set me up with a contractor. But what aggravated me was that she went ahead and took the deductible out the same day when it should have been 48 hours after the job was completed. I don’t like to pay for something I don’t have yet.

I called American Home Shield, made an appointment and asked them if they could come out and look at the air conditioning as the unit wasn't working. The contractor looked at the premise, went outside and looked at the unit. Then he cleaned the unit, got it going and left. But I had to pay money on top of the warranty fees and I don't know why. They charged me $70. But the ac works great now.

American Home Shield was easy to work with. The service tech from Myer's Electric who came to the house was cordial, polite, personable, and did a great job. I wasn't able to be on site but my wife kept me informed. The tech got me on the telephone and explained what he was going to do before he did it. We're happy and we hope the unit holds up. The tech said it was low on Freon so we're going to keep an eye on it. He ran a test for possible leakage and right now the unit is okay. But he was still concerned that there may be a leakage somewhere that's causing it to run low on Freon.

My recent claim was a water leak at my pressure regulator. I know American Home Shield is a busy place and when I call, I get put on hold. I might be on hold for a while but that's no big deal. I was able to do it on the phone and went to the automatic prompts which were okay. They did email me when they got a company that would come out to my house. It didn’t take a long time for them to get out. It took only a couple of days and they did the work. Before I also had a claim where my air conditioning unit went out, they came out the next day and took care of it.

The only concern I have this time was the fact that before, a technician will come out and you would pay them after they’re done. But now, they switched to where you have to pay by card before the technician comes out. Also, in the past, when I call for a technician to come out and if it was something that was not covered by the warranty, I wasn't charged a trade fee. This time, I told the technician to go ahead and fix the problem because my pressure regulator wasn’t covered by the warranty and they still charged a trade fee.

I called American Home Shield and explained to them that they couldn't fix it and it wasn't covered in the warranty so I paid for it out of my pocket. Then I told them that in the past, when this happens, I wasn't charged. The customer service person I was talking to said, "Well, it's up to the company or it's up to the technician. It's their call whether they charge you or not." The customer service further told me, "Well, in the future, what you need to do is call. Make sure you talk to somebody. Make sure you call and talk to a representative and tell them what the problem is. And they can pretty much tell you if we'll cover it or not before someone comes out or before you do that."

Then it goes back to the time that I have to wait just to get somebody to talk to me even if you do it online. They just ask general questions and unless you talk to somebody, you won't know if you’re covered until the service tech gets out to you. Now, I just paid $81 for trade fee and then I still had to get this problem fixed because it's not covered. I'm just glad to figure out that if I call and there's going to be a wait, I just have to wait it out until I talk to somebody. One time last year, I waited on the phone for about 15 to 20 minutes to get somebody. From now on, I'm going to have to take that time to wait until I talk to somebody. Unless it's something you automatically know is covered because they fixed it before.

Overall, I love American Home Shield. It's been a couple of times where they didn’t cover a claim but it has never been a problem. I've been with them for four years and I'm satisfied. The price is right and every year, there are no hidden things. I do recommend it to my family and my friends. When people start asking about home warranties, I tell them American Home Shield. They’re good, reliable and very friendly.

I had a sewage problem. We had some leaking going off in the plumbing in the house. American Home Shield was easy to deal with. I just called them, they sent somebody out, and that was it. The representative I spoke with was very helpful, but the contractor was horrible. They charged for one thing then again for another.

For instance, charging the tool that was in the house to clean the pipe because they couldn’t find the clean-out. But then, the next time they came out, they found the clean-out. So, you had an extra charge for no reason. A text message was received that they were on the way. I canceled it and they still came. That's when they found the clean-out. Then they tried to charge for something that wasn’t authorized. But I handled that independently with the company. I got pissed, so I opted to get it repaired by someone else and paid out-of-pocket for it. Other than that, we've had several successful claims at two different locations. The clerical side with American Home Shield was great and I would recommend them to other people.

I recently had a problem with my AC and I explained what was wrong. They said that I will receive a text, and they scheduled a visit with the AC company. The AC guys were good people. They came out and took care of it. However, they had to come back on the last one, which made it the third time they've worked on my unit. They fixed it and then it's not working. I guess one of the defrosters was ticking. They fixed that instead and it's working fine ever since. I've recommended American Home Shield to three of my friends and they all signed up with them.

They were telling me how to keep the problem from re-occurring. I had a good experience with this particular person that came out.

American Home Shield have completed my claims when needed. However, I felt some things were unfair. I had an issue with the water heater and they were telling me that there has to be some upgrades and stuff. The vendor that was going to do it wanted to charge an astronomical amount. I was able to get it done outside of that vendor and American Home Shield reimbursed me for whatever. But, I still had to pay some. It worked out all right but I felt like they should have taken care of the whole thing. It has been equitable for the most part though.

The service is below average. I got fed up and called them to cancel the contract today. They wanted to charge me a cancellation fee even though my contract is year to year with automatic renewal. I'd say they getting too big they no longer care about customer services! The lady who took my call was very un-professional and rude. I'm glad I'm out with them. Not a way to grow business. A 2 star rating is still very generous to them!

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy, I just went online and did it. Their contractor got out there and looked at the issue and said that it wasn't covered. So far, everything that I’ve called AHS for hasn't been covered. And every time their contractors come out, they want me to give them more money because they tend to say, “Well, you know this really doesn’t cover my expenses.” So far, my experience with AHS has been consistent. They haven’t been able to fix the issue, it’s not covered, and “What they’re paying me is hardly covering me coming out here so if you could pay me a little more, that would be great.” So, I’m disappointed with them.

I've got two home warranties and I was eligible for a very steep discount with Choice Home Warranty so I took advantage of that to compare it with AHS, but CHW is far superior and they cover just about everything. They sent somebody out and we thought they repaired it but they didn’t. It was more expensive than they had initially realized and so I ended up paying out of pocket to have it done correctly by a company that isn’t associated with the warranty companies.

I was not in town when the contractors came, but I had a family member over here and they thought it was really easy to deal with. They explained the problem, what they were doing and fixed it and headed out. We've been having almost 100-degree heat and the AC unit is working great since the repair. We called back again and very quickly, they rescheduled and sent another individual out. He was a very professional young man. He came, walked in with his backpack with his tools, had the part with him, fixed it, and was in and out of here in 45 minutes. We were very pleased with the performance this time as it’s worked perfectly. After all, we've been with AHS for 11 years. That says it all.

I had a recent claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning unit. When their first service provider came out, the guy was able to get the unit started and it was working fine. And then, it stopped working again and they realized there may have been a short in some parts between the unit communicating with the thermostat.

But, when they got the next guy out, he said he would call in what the problem was. Still, when he came, he didn't have the part. The next time they came out, there was something else that they didn't have. The next time I scheduled an appointment, they sent me an email changing it and gave me a time that would work with me. They came out the fifth time and got everything resolved. Still, it shouldn't take five visits for something that should only take one or two.

Nevertheless, the technicians who came out to do the repairs were very good. They were professional and did a good job. But, the communication between their office and the dispatch person, including the one that came out to do the repair wasn't there. When you call American Home Shield, you're on hold for 45 minutes to an hour before you could talk to someone. The scheduling time has been difficult too. Furthermore, you can't follow up on this kind of appointment and schedule additional appointments for the same service on the internet. Still, once I got someone on the phone, they were really helpful and they reached out to the vendor for them to contact me. While I'm satisfied with the repair, working with them wasn't a pleasant experience.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my GE microwave. Calling them up for a claim was not a problem. However, the people they sent out were. The first contractor broke a part of my microwave and checked it back thinking I wouldn’t notice. It completely fell off the second I opened my microwave and they didn't want to fix it. AHS then sent out another guy who was very nice and did what he could but he didn’t want to fix the unit either. Now I’m back to the first company and they still don't want to fix my unit. They’re affordable but they should choose better companies that they contract with. It’s been about three months and it's still an ongoing issue.

This is not the first claim I had with them. We had the motor of our garage door replaced before. However the guy AHS sent out did not hook up my actual garage door opener in my car nor did he redo the keypad. It’s standing in my garage but there’s no way I can get it out of my garage any other way. I had to have someone else come out and fix it. Additionally, three months ago, the compressor of our AC also went out. They should have known that it was low on Freon when they did the full diagnostics check on out. Two weeks later, I had to have the same company come back out and pay another fee to come back out and check it. So, it’s kind of recurring thing.

The service provider came out to check it and told us that he could do something to it but it wasn't going to repair it. It would only be a temporary fix. The next day, it was broken again so, we contacted American Home Shield. The contractor said that one of the supports wasn't the correct support on the garage door so it wasn't going to hold the door and it won't continue to go up and down. He didn't explain a lot in detail, and the interaction was very short, quick and not very customer-friendly.

The biggest issue that we had was that it was not communicated with us that they weren't going repair the door until we hadn't heard anything in a couple of days so, I had to call back. We were waiting to hear a customer service call from them saying that they got a report from the service provider and it's not covered. Also, someone had documented that they try to reach us and that was not true. No one had left a message on my home phone, my cellphone or my husband's cellphone. I had asked them to document in the file that no one had reached out to us. The person I spoke to said that they're sorry for the miscommunication and I said that it's not a "miscommunication" but it's a "no communication". It was a huge failure on their part to communicate. We ended up paying out of pocket for the garage door to be repaired.

Overall, the customer service is good in general and the experiences we've had were positive. In our recent claim, their reps have been pleasant as far as answering the questions but they didn't give us the answer that we wanted because we've been with them for so long and never had any issues. I wouldn't let that one incident negate my overall experience with them.

The reps I spoke with at American Home Shield were courteous, everyone was polite and the contractor they sent (Crites) were wonderful. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They were prompt, courteous and showed up exactly on time, if not early. Six months ago, our washing machine was not working. I called in a claim with American Home Shield and Crites came out and they determined we needed a new motor. AHS paid for that and sent a new motor. But then, we started having the exact same problem a little time later, plus there was a leak on the floor next to the machine. So then, Crites came out again and they said it was the motor and the motor parts and they again covered that.

A few months later, it started acting up again. That time, there were some parts that were very hard to find. It was almost like they got to a point where they said, “No, we're going to replace the machine.” Then a couple of weeks went by and then they said, “Oh, no, we found these parts. Now, we're waiting for them to be delivered.” And then Crites came out and put those parts in. Well then, our contract was ending but we had 30 days from the placement of those parts to file a complaint if it wasn’t working. Sure enough, once again it was not working. So, we called that in for a fourth time and they did replace the machine with an excellent washing machine and it didn’t take that long and that part went smoothly. I don't know how much two motors plus these other parts cost plus the service call, but I would think it's almost just as much or more than just replacing it. It just seems ridiculous to me to keep replacing parts on a machine that many times.

I've been having mediocre experiences with American Home Shield. I've had some successful claims with them. They've come out and fixed and replaced my garbage disposal. They've also been out to fix my washing machine, they had to replace some parts in it and it's working. But my problem with them is with my air conditioning. They had to come out and change something every summer and it has been going on for six years. They supposedly fix it but something else happens the following year. They don't replace it while it really needs to be replaced.

My recent claim on my aircon happened June of this year. I called AHS and I interacted with the contractor. He came in and told me what the problem was, and we went from there. He didn't fix the problem, he just told me what was wrong. American Home Shield told me how much it was going to cost and the extra cost and I decided not to go with them. I'm not going to spend that extra $1,000 when I'm paying every month for five years. I have fixed it on my own. I didn't have to replace it and just fixed some parts in it. I've been dealing with American Home Shield and they should fix it, and they haven't. I'm tired of using AHS.

I called AHS for service for my AC unit on. They sent the tech to my home. The tech spent more time telling me how he can do the job on the side and want me to give him more cash than the repair was going to cost me. He also took my parts and left my unit very unsafe. He took the cover of the outside unit therefore it left the edges expose, also the compressor and the r22 coolant and coils all open and expose. I do not know what danger this could be for me in the future. I inform AHS about this the very first business day. They act like it was common to do that. I dont thinks it’s common and if it is then why didnt the repair tech come prepare with a cover to protect unit until work was done. Also my unit coil was torn from the fan blade when the unit broke.

The AC tech inform me the unit should be replaced, however he would patch it up knowing it wasn’t safe. The tech gave AHS very little information about my system therefore leaving AHS with a low cost cash out to repair my unit. Broken cover, motor gone to fan blades I believe, and fan blades broke torn coils inside and AHS offer me a cash out in the amount of $311.00 bogus amount. I had to get an outside person repair/replace unit because American Home Shield was taking too long and the temperature in the house was well above 90 to 105 degrees. The people on the phone at AHS, will tell you they working on the authorization, and the next day you call to follow someone else will tell you they’re not working on it and I need to allow 48 hours. Well I had to call them every day for two weeks.

Thank God for friends and family. Whom agreed to help me with $$$ till I received the reimbursement from AHS, only to find out they not even covering half of it. I dont know why the techs didnt take pictures of the unit to show AHS that my unit was too damaged and need to be replace. AHS do not care about their customers because they do not take your word if the tech tell them different. My tech was so angry and mad at me for not giving him cash to do the job on the side, therefore he didnt inform AHS everything that needed to be fixed.

I'm going to consult my attorney, because I paid them for several years on this house and used the service very little. Now when I needed them the most in the hottest days of the years they failed me. They will tell you anything to get you off the phone. I have lodge a complaint to them about the company that was sent out. I also asked for a manager and I was inform by the lady in the auth department that she didnt have a manager. I then asked her to please find a manager and share my concerns and have one call me back. To this date no one have address my concerns. All they care about is collecting my monthly payments. They need to follow up much more when a customer complains.

My original call for service was 7/15/2017. The tech came out and that was the end of it. I waited over 5 business days and the weekend still no repairs, therefore I had no choice but to go with outside person. I inform them two days after the tech came out how uncomfortable I was with the tech and the harassment I went through because he kept insisting on me giving him cash, stating he can repair my AC unit by the next day.

I really was feeling like I was being scam, because if he could repair then why by going with AHS it would take much longer. He said because they have to order the parts. I checked with AHS and was told they do not order the parts for small ticket items just for large. So wow I was lied to by either the warranty company or the HVAC… which one... or are they in this together. I am very dissatisfied with their service for that request and another one at another property. I will update that at a later date. VERY DISSATISFIED.

They finally called to remedy my issue. They offered $500 credit towards buying the new appliance. I would be out $240, but I'd have a new unit. An hour later I received another call stating they would be paying for only $330 towards the replacement. Often times the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I'm glad at the outcome, but I not satisfied with the near 4 week time frame.

    Original Review: July 30, 2017

I've long been a fan of AHS, but lately they have declined in customer service. Over an hour wait to get someone to talk to at times. We had issues with our pool, requested service and they sent the bottom rung of pool service pros. The tech made things worse and wired our pool pump incorrectly and created a hazard. I called AHS and asked for another company to come fix their shoddy work. They then arranged for the same company to come out, ignoring my concern and instructions. Another company came out and replaced the pump as it was destroyed by the previous tech.

Subsequently, our trash compactor needed repair. The tech came out, identified the part and requested it via AHS supplier. Two weeks later said part is on backorder with no estimate on when it will be available. AHS has no time frame on when they have to have your appliance repaired, when they cover a replacement (unlike Choice Warranty), who is looking very attractive at present.

After getting approval from AHS I had the work done by an outside provider. I submitted all the necessary paperwork in order to be reimbursed by AHS.

I called AHS on 6/22/17 to get the status on the cash out and was told 2 checks had been sent out, one on 6/13/17 and the other on 6/20/17, I also confirmed the address the checks were mailed to was correct. Since then I have made numerous phone calls to AHS to get the status of the checks and have been given numerous excuses such as the check was sent to the wrong address and needed to be voided and reissued, to the check was sent back to AHS by the post office for some unknown reason, to the accounting department has been waiting to get an address confirmation before reissuing the check, and over and over again I've been told the checks are in the mail.

On several occasions I've asked to speak to a manager, each time I'm told they are in a meeting or at lunch. It is now 7/30/17, to date I have not received the reimbursement checks. I've spoken to the Customer Service Dept, the Ops Dept, the Cash Out Dept, and the Research Dept. The Accounting Dept., which is getting blame from the other departments, does not take phone calls. It never ceases to amaze me how a business can get away with these kind of practices.

We received the home warranty when we purchased this home in Spruce Pine NC April of this year. Turned the HVAC on July 24th. The next day went in the room where the system is and saw the unit was leaking from underneath pretty bad. Called American Home Shield. The wait time was approximately 48 minutes. This was on a Friday. We received a text from Pyatt Heating and Air a HVAC company located in Marion NC approximately 25 miles away said we would hear from them within 24 hours. By Monday we never heard from them.

I called them to find out the status and was rudely informed they don't come to Spruce Pine. Called American Home Shield back to tell them Pyatt rejected our request. The wait time is no less than 48 minutes of music. We had to call them every day for 5 days straight to see if they found someone to fix our HVAC. Now every day was no less than 48 minutes. I called one day checked the time I was waiting for someone to answer, some arrogant young guy told me he could not help me to find out the status of my claim. I told him I waited almost one hour for someone to answer. He arrogantly told me I would have to call back.

I was so mad I wanted to say the hell with American Home Shield. But I needed the HVAC fixed and being retired just relocated from another state I don't have that kind of money. I called back and the young girl told me they found someone. She asked me if I had heard from them and I said no one has contacted us at all. It took 7 days to get someone here. The problem still isn't fixed.

One or two hours after the repair guy left we checked the system and there was leaking all on the floor. The guy said he needed to get a part when we called him. I will never recommend AHS!!! The service is awful, the employees are young and inexperienced and not helpful. The whole ordeal is exasperating. I cannot provide an order number because I never received one nor a receipt.

They sent out First Home Quality Homes and they're great. The guy who comes and fixes it has become a really good friend of ours and even built a barn for us, so we like that it's him who comes out. One time they sent somebody else out who said they can't repair and then, First Home came out and the repairs have been good.

The last claim that I had with American Home Shield, I basically told them that I did not want to deal with it anymore. They kept on sending the person that I did not like, and he basically did not do the service when he came. He went out back to the car and wrote the same thing that he last wrote on the previous time that he came. Then when he came in, he didn't do anything. He just stood in my living room and never even went to the kitchen. That guy had been servicing my house at the time, but he had probably been in a bad mood these last two incidents.

He also demanded the $75, so, I complained to them about the issue and the girl was supposed to have fixed the issue by waiving it. Though, I ended up paying it because they did explain to me that it was still due. However, they keep on making it seem like I'm late even though they've taken bank drafts out of my account. It was disappointing because I'm never late on any payment. I've been a customer with them for years and the payment only lapsed one time when I had a renter here. The girl said she was going to do a follow-up, investigate everything, and then they had a word of proposal that she was going to fix the situation. I don't have a problem paying the $75, but don't make it look like I'm not a paying customer if they're drafting it out of my account.

American Home Shield did get somebody out here to replace the garbage disposal that the man supposed to have done, and the person that they re-sent out here did a great job. AHS is still a good company, but I don't want it to continue happening. I'm in the process of purchasing a new home and I don't have time to keep going back and forth with a company that can't handle their business properly. Eventually, I'm looking for another warranty company if they can't get their situation straight.

As far as the technicians' quality and being qualified go, they have been very good about that. My only issue with AHS is trying to contact them and talking to an actual person when an issue is not as simple as just going online and typing something. I've had an AC technician come out twice for the same problem and I wanted the same technician to come out since he was familiar with my unit. I tried to call just when I had it scheduled so they can put it into their notes to have the same guy come out.

It took three days and about eight calls, six out of those I sat on hold for 45 minutes and then I hung up. So on the seventh call, instead of dialing as an existing customer, I called like I'm a new sign-up client and they picked up with 30 seconds and it pissed me off. It was such a disparity between calling as an existing client, hitting prompt three times versus hitting prompt one as a new sign-up client. I still have an issue with my AC unit, but it's not due to any kind of deficiency on the technician’s part. It's just a perplexing problem we had.

We had a technician come out to complete service on our garage from Tuff Garage Doors. The technician/owners name is Hamilton **. Mr. ** confirmed to us that the $75 service fee WAS included as part of the total $150 repair on site. AHS ends up charging us for the $75 service fee. My wife and I called in to the tune of 1+ hour hold times several times, and AHS verified with Mr. ** by phone again that, in fact, the $75 service fee was included in the total repair cost. AHS then claims that the "$75 will not post to our credit card" and "if it does they will promptly reverse it". Both of these claims were false. AHS fully charged our card for the $75, and it was never reversed.

My wife and I have called about this issue around 4-5 times all to the same tune of 1+ hour hold times, being randomly transferred around, and many the agents were unprofessional by phone seeming to downplay the issue not taking any ownership at all. All agents are telling us to "not worry about the charge, extensive notes were put on the account". Now AHS has simply re-billed our online account because we disputed the charge with our bank. Our bank rightfully reversed the $75 we already paid after providing proof of payment, and AHS has no right to re-bill our account, period.

AHS overall seems to have gone down the drain over the past several years. Their claim process is very easy online, but it is an utter disaster anytime you need to contact them by phone regarding a claim. The wait times are ridiculous, lack of ownership or knowledge their agents seem to have about ANY question or issue, and they always say they are "shorthanded".

How about you actually hire some people to staff your call centers because every single review here complains about the same issue? We left this negative review as a last resort because the people monitoring these reviews "seem" to at least want to try to help, but there is a disconnect here to the people working when you call in. At this point, we need the $75 removed from our online account. We've already proven we paid the $75, and so did AHS.

The drain valve is on the bottom of it and it was leaking constantly. I noticed that was on a Saturday. I called in and finally got through to the sales representative some time around 3:00 in the morning of Sunday. The rep sounded like he was pretty tired. But other than that, the call went pretty smoothly. They had somebody out on Tuesday and the water heater was constantly dripping and getting all over my basement down where the laundry room is at.

I was at work and I got an email saying that the contractor was on his way. I told my wife about the contractor. They were there on time and the contractor helped her out pretty good. They fixed the water heater the day they came out. The water heater was like brand new and it's not leaking anymore. The contractor wanted to keep Teflon valves in there and he had to put in a shut off valve at the top which he didn’t have. The repair didn’t cost me anything. I just paid $75 and American Home Shield came out and took care of the issue. I got a year warranty with them if anything goes wrong. It came with the house when I bought it.

So when I had an AC problem and I called again for a claim. It was on a Monday, but they came out and actual work was done on a Thursday. But this year they sent out Myers out in Montgomery, Alabama and the technician took me outside and showed me exactly what they were supposed to be doing but they never did. He tightened up all of the fuses and I haven't had a problem almost a month or so. We've had American Home Shield for the nine years we were in Hawaii and the five years that we've been here. It's a great service and a great company.

I’m having the biggest issues with American Home Shield and repairs. I have an AC issue with my central air and it is now over a month and a half, seven business later, enclosed incompetence all the way around, lousy customer service from American Home Shield, pathetic contractors. We managed to diagnose the issue on Google.

The most recent call today was Eagle Air which is a contractor they're using. They seemed to think that it was finished despite the fact that I have a direct line to AHS who verified that he had talked to the contractor on Friday. I guess the rep is on vacation and he contacted the contractor and supposedly they had to order some parts. And when the parts would come in, they’d come back and repair but nobody anywhere assumes to be able to tell me that in this century.

There was an intermittent problem. The AC was coming on and coming off and it wouldn’t blow cold air. The problem has not changed even with different contractors. One contractor literally stopped by on its third visit saying he got to go to Home Depot but he never came back and contacted us. The fact of the matter is it doesn’t matter who the contractor is, that’s part of the American Home Shield system. It's the worst experience ever. I'm not going to renew AHS and I'll be going out my way on social media to amplify my poor word of mouth.

My air conditioning unit was freezing up. I called American Home Shield and it's easy submitting the claim. They got the information up and they took care of it. The rep was excellent and the process went smoothly. The next day, Mike, the technician, was out and diagnosed the problem in a matter of minutes. He had to order the fan and pick it up, but he fixed it that day. He was great and very friendly, too. It's been hot in Arkansas the last few years and my air conditioning unit has been excellent since the repair. Everything AHS advertises on their website is true. They were courteous, on time, quick to respond and professional. They were awesome and I'd recommend them.

Their representative was fantastic as always and within 24 hours, I had contact from the subcontractor who was going to do the work for me and we had it scheduled. The contractor knew what he was doing. He was in and out in 20 minutes. Everyone was super-fast and easy to deal with. It was fabulous.

Our dishwasher broke a month ago and we called American Home Shield. An appointment was scheduled five days later. The repair company said they needed to order a part which took two weeks to come in. Today they were scheduled to repair our dishwasher but never showed up. I tried to call AHS but the call wait time is 30 minutes. The repair company doesn't answer their phone and it's Friday.

If you are looking for a home warranty plan, DO NOT use American Home Shield. Why... I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. In the last two years I have become very dissatisfied with AHS's customer service. Wait times to talk to a representative range from 45 minutes to an hour, service contractors are incompetent, and they lack the interest in supporting a loyal customer base. Below are my most recent experiences.

A service call on my refrigerator was not resolved due to technician's incompetence (i.e lack of knowledge that the problem was a known issue with that model Samsung refrigerator) and now we are having to call back and have the repair done again. Because the labor done failed after the 30 days of the original repair AHS is not taking responsibility for the fact that the technician was incompetent. I am having to pay the service charge for a 2nd time. After requesting to speak with a supervisor (not available) and a promise to call me back in 24 hours (which didn't happen); I called back and waited another hour (no kidding) to get a representative on the line. Then I was told again that a supervisor would call me back in 24 hours. When I was told that didn't happen the first time, a supervisor came on the line. No resolution was reached after I talked to the supervisor.

I was finally told I could cancel my contract after all pending repairs are finished, and she seemed perfectly happy for that to happen and even offered to do it right then!! What really got me was on the second service call on the refrigerator, it has taken almost a week for them to authorize the parts to fix the refrigerator and now the second visit must be scheduled. This second tech was here 15 minutes and knew exactly what the issue was and which parts to order! My issue is -- why didn't the first tech that was sent out know this. I am beginning to wonder if this isn't AHS's strategy? Do an initial repair requiring no parts, knowing that it will fail after the 30 day warranty and then AHS can charge you again. Their solution was for me to go back to the original contractor and dispute it with them. That is not acceptable!

In addition to the refrigerator, our 26 year old hot water heater went out. It has taken over a week to get a technician out and all they are going to do is diagnose and see if it can be fixed. Really! They are going to fix a 26 year old hot water heater! If it is determined that it must be replaced, it will have to be authorized and then ordered and 2nd visit rescheduled!! Another week of no hot water!! A few years back AHS had achieved a bad reputation regarding these same types of issues. After it was all over the media, the service was very responsive. Over the years they have made a boatload of money off my payments to maintain this contract. It is discouraging that AHS is not valuing their customers again.

No thanks to AHS and their contractors before I did what I should have done originally and just called my local AC company and had it fixed within two hours. Now AHS is still charging me for a service fee for a service that was never provided. This has quite literally been the worst experience I have ever had with a business. It took me a day and a half and a total of 2.5 hours on the phone to talk to someone. During that time I was hung up on. When you call the customer service line your minimum wait is 30 minutes or more. I tried several times before I could stay on the phone for over an hour to talk to someone. The customer service person said she would have to refer this case to their Contractor Relations Dept. because the contractor assigned to my work order was not responding. My toilet recently began malfunctioning and I reached out to AHS. Their email stated someone would reach out to me within 24 hours. Well it was on a Saturday night. So, I expected someone to get in touch with me by Monday morning. No one contacted me until Monday evening. The agent told me the name of the company that would be reaching out to me. They called the next day which was Tuesday and said no one would be out to fix our toilet until Friday evening. I said no way. That was too long for 3 children and 2 adults to not have a functioning toilet. I contacted my own plumbing company and they came out the same day to fix the toilet. I then tried to call AHS and waited on hold for over 1 hour for 2 days in a row.

I finally tricked the system and called stating I wanted to start new service with AHS and someone was on the phone within minutes. The customer service agent realized what happened and placed me on hold for 15 minutes. I did speak to a customer service agent who was not apologetic and got me over to retention. The retention department was very nice and took the time to understand my concern. She said she cancelled the work order. I also asked to speak to her manager. She told me she would call within 24 hours. The manager did not call me until the following Saturday. She was also very nice and apologetic. She even gave me a $100 credit. I pleaded with her that I wanted to go back to my old company because I was having too many issues. She reassured me everything was ok. 2 weeks later the plumbing company called me stating that they were on the way. I said I have already had the issue resolved.

Now here we are a month later and I am being charged for this $100 work order that was never completed. I cancelled the work order directly with AHS with 2 different individuals and even the plumbing company. Also, what happened with the $100 service credit. I was very upset to see that I was charged for a service that was never rendered. Today 7/28/2017. I called to tell the customer service agent that I had been billed erroneously. She took the time to understand my concern and placed me on hold. 30 minutes later as I type this I am still on hold. She did apologize as she was trying to figure out why I was charged. I have since realized that going with the best price isn't always the best. I will not be recommending AHS for any future business.

Never spoke to a supervisor phone disconnected. When I finally called back for the third time the customer service representative stated the provider they contracted to do the repair didn't call in their report. I tried to explain to the representative the company told me they did call in and explain they couldn't fix the problem. The representative from American Home Shield stated, "Mam you can believe what you want. I don't see anything in my notes."

The representative also went on to say if they called in it would be in my notes. I basically felt she was saying I was lying. The representative was very argumentative and rude. After several minutes going around in circles she finally decided she would call the company. But of course since it took me over an hour to get through to anyone at American Home Shield the company was closed. She claimed she left a message for the company to call in their report tomorrow on 7/27/17. I have used American Home Shield in the past but I will never pay for another warranty again. We have five people in the house and one of the two bathroom toilets recently backed up. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the rep was friendly enough. That was on a Saturday and they came on a Thursday. The contractor showed up on time, put a snake in the toilet, cleared the toilet and he left. He spent some time there with these questions about taking the snake out and putting it in the plastic bag.

About a week later, the toilet backed up again. So, they sent out another representative and it took four days for them to come out. I told AHS I didn’t want anybody from there but they sent one anyway and the second gentleman spent a lot more time and stayed here for almost a half hour. He made certain that the toilet was working properly and we hadn’t had any trouble with it since. If I have another problem, I wouldn’t mind having that second technician come out. The experience with AHS was pretty good and they did what they were supposed to do.

Water was leaking through an overflow tube from my water heater and into my backyard. I have the American Home Shield site downloaded to my computer and it was very easy to submit the claim. I just went in and my information was already preloaded. I clicked on what I needed, which was a plumber, and then I got an email from them letting me know that I would receive a contact from the vendor in less than 24 hours.

The next day someone called me and identified themselves as the contractor and said that they had gotten an order from American Home Shield. They wanted to know what the problem was and I explained it to them over the phone. Then he said he'll be there next morning and that he'll call when he's on the way. That next morning he called me and said he was on his way from Conway, Arkansas and that he’d be here within 30 minutes.

He showed up and said he knew exactly what was wrong. He did an adjustment on the top of the water heater and the water stopped running. I didn't see any water leak out of my water heater anymore. But then it was just my backyard that got really wet so everything was good. I’ve had American Home Shield the whole time I've been living in Arkansas, which is about 12 years and they’ve replaced several things at my house. I also get newsletters via email to give me little tips on how to maintain things around my house so it's been really good.

We've been trying to get the air conditioner fixed and the first people they sent out here did a terrible job. Every year in the winter time, the defrost board wouldn't do its thing and they replaced it and then every summer, it leaks Freon. They came out and tested it and it was blowing Freon again, but they keep telling us that it's not low enough to get replaced so we had to pay for more Freon. We pay every month to have American Home Shield and we pay a $75 fee for them to come out and look at the problem and then they charge us again for what's wrong.

We had one company that came out to fix a small air conditioner that we have upstairs and that guy charged us for Freon, but it started leaking again on the inside. Then when the big air conditioner wasn't cooling, they wanted to send the same people that came to do the upstairs. We told them that we don't want them. So, they gave us somebody else and he also charged us for Freon which I have to pay, but he was very nice and very informative. So, we still have yet to get the one upstairs taken care of. We've had American Home Shield for 13 years ever since we've been in the house. They did replace a hot water heater for us, but we're tired of having to fix the air conditioner every year and there's not enough wrong with it for them to give us a new unit.

I called American Home Shield and they got a serviceman from Carolina Air out of Red Springs to come and look at it. He was knowledgeable and personable, and he answered all my questions. He was like a neighbor and not a technician. He determined that we were low on Freon. But he said, "There's a reason you're low on Freon. It's leaking somewhere." He found the leak, got the equipment and fixed the leak, and it's blowing cold air.

I'm very impressed with American Home Shield and with the people who came and did the work. I was talking to somebody at the barbershop and I said, "If you don't have a home warranty, if you think about it, you ought to have one. And AHS would be the people that I would use." I'm very pleased with the service. I was leery when they started talking about providing me with a home warranty. But it was the best $52 a month I'm spending after my experience with them with my air conditioner. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody who asked me.

While I was in the hospital in February, the power outlets in the kitchen stopped working and I found out about it after I was brought home from the hospital and was a little more coherent. I asked my mom about the coffee pot and she explained that the outlets weren’t working but they had been working before. And she had a power strip running from another outlet. I steam a lot of fresh vegetables and I couldn’t use my ninja board and KitchenAid mixer because I had no place to plug it in that worked. I wasn’t also allowed to do some cooking for a while and a lot of the things that I did eat was yoghurt, plus I still had no sense of smell and very little taste but some of it is coming back. So if it wasn't yoghurt, I was eating a whole lot but I would heat things up in the microwave, like cups of Quaker Oatmeal, because I was not quite ready to touch the stove.

When I was getting to the point where I could use the stove or oven and I’m going to cook myself but I can’t plug in my steamer and things, I said that I needed to get this taken care of so I made the claim with AHS. Everything went very well. Their representatives were helpful and tried to get me a contractor within a few days and they called to let me know they were on their way. The contractor was friendly, talkative, was joking around and very nice. I was joking also with them and the whole experience was very good. They found out that one of the plugs has the reset button, the black and red button thing, and it was all in his top and he’s tripped the other one so the other one didn’t work so they just changed them out. They worked wonderfully and efficiently, and they also tried to get things done as quickly as possible for me. The overall experience was wonderful, especially knowing that I was here by myself.

Our refrigerator’s compressor was going out and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. It was very easy. The contractor has been out here before. They made a diagnosis very quickly as to what the problem so that part went smoothly. But it was a little bit disappointing that it took them five days to get out here. The freezer wasn’t keeping temperature. They finally made it out and then they said the compressor needed to be replaced. After another five days, we finally heard from American Home Shield that they do not replace those but they replace refrigerators. I was disappointed that it took that long for them to notify us.

But it was nice that they have the ability to purchase this type of refrigerator which is quite expensive for a significantly reduced price. However, to get it installed was really a challenge. American Home Shield doesn’t help with that and we were left to do that on our own. I called a company that makes the refrigerator and they gave me a few recommendations but on Angie’s List, they didn’t score well so I didn’t pursue them. I finally found somebody that’s going to do it but it took two weeks. The good thing though was the refrigerator was delivered in a very short period of time, which surprised me.

A thing that could use a little bit of improvement with AHS though is there isn’t always good communication when you submit a repair issue with them on their website. They say the contractor will get in touch with you within 24 hours but that rarely happens. They might but if they do, they tell you, “We’ll be out in a few days so I want to know what’s going on or how urgent this is.” There’s no way to personally communicate with them and say, “We need you now.” Other than that, I’m happy with my experience. AHS has a user-friendly website and the personnel that I have interacted with were helpful.

American Home Shield - This company was referred to by them and I cannot get any help to get my money back or service provided. I continue to get the run around and each time I call I am on the phone for (no joking) 2 hours to get a representative on the phone. Funny thing is, if you call to obtain a homeowners warranty with the company they answer on the 1st ring!!! I'm waiting now, which is why I have time to write this long review! Southern Comfort Heating and Air (Zebulon), stole my money!!! I have been attempting to contact them since 7/12/17 and always waiting for "Darryl" to return to the office. They have been out to my home several times. I was told that I needed a compressor which would cost approximately $800.

The technician came out after I waited all day and lost wages to tell me that the prior technician misdiagnosed the issue and that I did not need a compressor. He also informed me that the previous technician had been fired. The technician stated that he would provide Freon and some vent and that would be all that is needed. The technician instructed me to contact the company for a refund. I attempted to be patient and wait for them to contact me but lo and behold the air conditioning is broken again!!! It has been two weeks. I called my home warranty company who stated that this company informed them the compressor had been replaced (my receipt says otherwise). AHS stated that the company would call back within an hour to reschedule and fix the issue.

When I called today because they had not called I was informed that AHS stated that I would not be refunded for non-covered charges!!! So basically I gave them $775 to be exact and they did not provide the service I paid for or given me my money back. I received ~ 2 weeks of air conditioning for that price! When I asked about the technician, I was informed that he was fired! I wonder why??? I will write a review everywhere that I can and everyday. I never like to write bad reviews because I know how that can impact a business but I do not like to be robbed, especially without a gun!

I have AHS for last year or more. AC was broke last year. They came add Freon and they said they fixed the leak also. Anyways I paid for Freon. This year it broke again. I have called them. They said coil is leaking and need to replace it. I have to pay for PVC ($130) and for Freon. Total they said $1285. I have their voice message. I got agree with that. A technician came in to fix ac at 8:00am and I have called AHS at 9:41am to confirm the amount and to who I need to give a check. They said $1285.

I just got a call from AHS (technicians are here and half way done) is asking me to pay additional $300+ as they got the wrong part and they don't have correct part available for next 6 weeks and because of that they will replace something else with coil. She started screaming as I refused to pay because they have done without my permission. I already paid $100 for their first visit where they have decided was is wrong and how much out of pocket cost will be.

I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years and they’re very nice and efficient. I recently filed claims with them for the kitchen sink and for the bathroom upstairs that was backing up and not flushing right. I called AHS and had a very nice interaction with the rep. But the contractor was saying that since it was the weekend, he couldn’t come out till Monday, and that if he came out that weekend, I would have to pay him extra. Anyway, the contractors came and took care of all the problems on Monday. They were on time and very professional, explained the issues and repair to me, and did the job. Everything’s been running fine since then.

When you call AHS' 800 number, you don’t talk to a live person. It's always a recording. But you say what you need, they say they will send you an email if you have an email or call you back with the name of the person that will be coming out. Then they will give you a date that the person will come out. It was pretty easy. When I filed a claim for my air conditioning unit, the technicians AHS sent fixed it and it was pumping. They were very professional. But my system started leaking in the inside and it was all over the floor in my hallway. I had to call AHS again and I have an appointment for a technician to come out tomorrow. We wanna see where the leak is coming from and I might have to eventually get a new unit. I have recommended AHS to a friend.

I always submit my claim to American Home Shield over the phone and it's easy and very well-done. With my recent claim, I simply told them what it was and they dispatched the same HVAC technician. I have a relationship with them already, so everything was done to my satisfaction. It was for a heat pump coil in the attic that’s 10 years old and it is expensive. It's $1,400 and it's the gut that works the unit, and when it doesn't work, you don't have any air conditioning or heat. They last 15 years and when they go out, they're done. They have to be re-attached and replaced. The problem was the part was not in stock and I had to wait a week for the part to come in. But once it was ordered, they called back quickly and they put it in within 48 hours.

The contractors knew what they were doing. Everything was done right, professionally and timely. They also didn't mind me watching them. None of the contractors are professional communicators nor sales people. They are blue collar people and they’re not going to be as polished as someone who works on the phone all day long. But given what it was, they were good and they are a different breed. I work with contractors on a daily basis, so I knew what I was getting. Overall, I didn't have any issues with them. It was done to my satisfaction so everything is good. I'd recommend them.

The contractor called as indicated by American Home Shield and then they said what time they'd be there. They came out and did the work. It was perfect and the air conditioning has worked fine since the repair. The overall experience was painless and efficient.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was what we thought was the plumbing issue. We were smelling some mold in the house and couldn’t really determine the source. We called AHS, the rep said they would send a plumber out, figured out what works for our schedule and found a company that matches that. From there, I received a confirmation email from them saying about the company and when they’re coming and to reach out if I had any questions. Everything from there went as it should’ve. The plumber came out as expected and everything matched that.

But the experience itself was not enjoyable. We ended up having a plumber that was not on it. He came out and he was doing a nice job or so we thought. The plumber came out one time, told us everything was what it was and didn’t actually do anything but said that we needed to get our homeowner’s insurance involved. So, we went ahead and did that. Then, he came out again two weeks later and we got an email saying he came out. He told us we had to open a new claim because it was something different, even though he had still yet to do any kind of testing to support what he was saying. We had to pay an additional $75 for that.

After that, we had two or three emails from American Home Shield saying that the plumber came out but he never physically came to the house. When I confronted him about that, he said that American Home Shield was behind in their emails but that wasn’t the case because we had received an email every time. It’s kind of shady on his part. He was submitting to American Home Shield that he was coming out but he wasn’t. We didn’t really feel comfortable with that so, we reached out to that family friend who was a plumber and told him what we had been going on and he led us to the outside of the house, which was where the source of everything was happening.

We would’ve blindly trusted this plumber. He was saying it was definitely a huge leak every time we flush them after toilet and that was coming from something in our slab and that he was gonna have to break up the walls, remove part of the flooring, and dig through the slab work to fix all of that. And then, we would have to repair all of that. So, it was gonna be multi thousand dollar ordeal. Now, we're it fixing ourselves. My husband cut a hole in the drywall, and we removed the insulation, and it looks like there was an animal, probably a mouse, and it had climbed in through that hole and had been living there, and so, there was some urine and fecal matter in the insulation causing the smell. We’re drying all of that out and we’ll be repairing that. But that wouldn’t have been covered by anybody anyway so that’s when I had it did some investigation.

We ended up contacting American Home Shield about it. I said I really don’t want this plumber, one, destroying our house when it’s not necessary and two, for American Home Shield to continue to use this company because they’re obviously not trustworthy. They listened to everything I said, immediately refunded our money for the second claim and put that particular company on a “Do not serve” list and they were 100% on our side. That was really refreshing. They were always super helpful throughout the whole process.

We also had a situation with our air conditioning unit, had some questions, they sent somebody out and they were awesome. It's so easy to use them and they’re so reliable. As soon as you have an issue with the contractor, they’re so quick to respond and say they’ll put him on their Do not serve list. So, even though we had a horrible experience with the plumber himself, we know it’s nothing American Home Shield could’ve done. We have had them for a little over a year and we just renewed our contract. We love them. Being able to make one phone call or log on to one website and talk with somebody to figure out what type of person you need to come help fix your situation is a great resource.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield to get a new water heater and the process was fairly easy. However, when I talked to American Home Shield, I was under the impression of one thing, but it was different when it came to the company doing it. It seemed that nothing was communicated between the two of them. The contractors were nice guys, though one of them was Mr. Know-it-all. Our experience was a mess but it wasn't totally American Home Shield's fault. Other than that, the new water heater is doing pretty good.

I had a problem with the air conditioning and I wasn’t sure exactly what part of it was wrong. I submitted a claim online to AHS to have a guy come out and take a look at it. I talked to the contractor on the phone while he was at home because I wasn’t there, although my wife was, so our communication and interaction were good. He explained exactly what the problem was and did a full cleaning. The actual AC seems to be performing well after the repair but it’s a little noisy and there’s more wind noise than normal, which might have been the fan. But beyond the repair, the tech saw other issues that could have been creeping up on us and decided to fix those.

However, I wish that AHS would clearly define and list down exactly what is covered and what is not covered on houses that have a septic tank. I also wish they would go back down on the price to $75 per visit instead of $125. The price for the call out is pretty expensive and it jumped right over $100. I do a lot of the work myself and I don’t call them too much. If I do, it’s for something really serious. For example, I didn’t call them when the sewage system underneath the house needed a new $250 pump. It's a separate part that’s sitting on the slab, which is plugged in, so I didn’t know if it would be covered or not. But if AHS were to cover that, it would have cost me only $125. So I could've saved money on something that probably was covered had I known it was covered. This time, I called them out for the AC and they ended up replacing the start capacitor, a $40 part which I could order online and replace myself.

The only claim I've submitted with American Home Shield was in June when they needed to come out to service the air conditioner. I did it online and they couldn't get somebody out so a second claim was started. The first person given the contract would not be able to come out for a while so they cancelled that and sent it to somebody else. They fixed it on their end and everything went smoothly. The contractor that came out was great. He looked at it, had the part, fixed it, and was done. It didn't even take an hour. The unit is now working fine, and I'm satisfied.

On two separate occasions I have attempted to use AHS for an AC outage and second for a washing machine repair. My AC went out over a weekend (Sat PM) at the beginning of summer (keep in mind I live in Houston, TX). I ended up having to call out my own local company because I couldn't wait past 24 hours to get it fixed. Plus I had my 3 year old daughter in the house to worry about. I actually did not get a call from the company until that Tuesday, and they wanted to come out 2 days later. The AC company they contracted told me they didn't work on the weekends. Are you serious, so wait 5 days without AC in 90-100 degree Houston heat?! I was appalled that AHS would actually think that this was acceptable.

2nd attempt was for a washing machine. Clearly not as dire as an AC repair, so I was more lenient. Waited a couple of days, technician showed up later in the day, assessed the situations, told us that he will check with AHS for repair or replace. Week later, they called the said repair, and they had to order a part. Another week goes by. I called the repair company and they said that they dont work past 5 pm and dont work on the weekends. They told me that I would have to take off from work for them to service my washer. Strike 2. I bought a new washer that night.

The last straw was today. I received an email stating I still owed them a service call. I called and explained that I dont feel that I should still have to pay for something that was never completed. The customer service rep was yelling at me and berating me, as if this was my fault... She never agreed to waive the service call charge, I hung up. Is this how these companies make their money? Dont they want to keep me as a customer? It's really sad that this is how they treat people. Talking with them does no good, they only care about themselves. ATTENTION PEOPLE! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS OF THIS COMPANY.

They confirmed for me twice over the phone that everything was fine with that, but it was still showing up online 40 days later. That past due thing was blocking me from submitting a claim online without calling. I had to go through a 10 minute conversation on the phone. They've gotten that fixed though. The tech came out almost the next day and he had a new part, but it was an out-of-box failure and there was nothing anybody could do about it. Otherwise, everything has been fine and dandy.

After 2 months and 2 days I am still without a working refrigerator. First, AHS sends a tech who was unqualified to repair but said it needed a compressor. The tech also told me I needed to call LG to ensure the part was under warranty. I did that but did not hear from AHS so after a week I contacted AHS only for them to tell me that this tech was not certified to do the work and that they had to get another company.

AHS never gave me a call to tell me what I had to call them to hear. That took another week for that co. to come only to say the same thing the first tech said "It needs a compressor." However, neither tech checked the front panel to see if it needed to be replaced. I continued calling AHS to get a status and each time I called, I had to tell my story again and again until I asked for a supervisor.

Now 1 month has passed and he offers me a dorm size refrigerator but I have to purchase and then get reimbursed. It is summer and therefore I have to buy ice daily trying to keep basics stuff like water, juices, tea, mayo, margarine, etc. cold (you get my point). So at this point, I find a web page and state my complaint and within an hour Ms. **, supposed to be from corporate office calls me to say they have found the compressor and it will be delivered on July 4th (WTH). No business is going to deliver on that day and I check with the co. it is to be delivered to and it did not come.

I contact Ms. ** again to tell her that at this point AHS should have had the part delivered EXPRESS. She tells me it will be delivered BUT I am going on vacation until July 13th. Anyway, the tech comes w/ compressor (with attitude) and when asked if he was having a bad day, he tells me "I don't like working on LGs!" Bottom line, he cannot fix the refrigerator.

So now after 1 month and 25 days, AHS offers me a replacement that will not fit into my home, they want me to buy one (with what $$) and they will reimburse me. WTH, with the customer service I have received, I doubt getting my money back in a reasonable amount of time. So I shop to find one that will fit into my home with an allowance of $2280.57. Bam, I find one on sale for $1800, and they tell me they only buy from Sears and to get the one at Sears. I will have to cough up $600. Damn, for the inconvenience of waiting this long for some resolution, they would either waive the $600 or just send me the check for the $2280.57 and I can buy it myself.

So needless to say since May 24, 2017, I am still waiting (2 months, 2 days) for AHS to resolve this issue - a company that can go into my bank acct every month and get its money faithfully but cannot trust me enough to purchase an item for MY home. I am about to get sick from not eating properly during the hot days of summer and I cannot continue to keep buying prepared food (high in sodium). And let's not forget the cost of 20-40 lbs of ice daily because it is so hot (I do not have central air). CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!

I requested service from AHS on Monday, July 17, 2017 to have someone come out to check my AC and from that day until today my experience with this company has been hell. I spoke with at least (6) different representative and with (2) supervisor which gotten me nowhere. They all sound like computer reading a script and refuses to listen let along address your concerns accordingly without taking it personally. I was contacted by ACS Absolute on July 17, 2017. Service was set up for the next day. A worker from ACS inspect my AC, inform us we had a leak in the AC Evaporator Coil which lead to our AC needing Freon. His estimate cost was $1150 on top of the work that needed to be done on the AC evaporator coil.

After confirming with the worker the overall ordeal, he stated to the AC evaporator coil needed to be replaced with a new one. We asked if the work could be done on the AC evaporator coil only, he stated no. We had to have the entire job done or he wasn't able to fix it at all. My husband asking him for something in writing and for a receipt for the $100 service fee, he stated, "An email receipt will be sent to you" and left upset.

I contacted AHS on 7/19/17. The answering machine stated there will be a 10 hold time instead I waited for 57:32 minutes before the call was disconnected. I called back on 7/20/17 waited on the line for 1:37 minutes before an agent answer. I expressed my concerns about not receiving a phone call ahead of time to inform me about the service agreement with ACS which at that time I could have stated to the agent what my expectations to avoid an angry service man coming out to my home.

I was told they don't call beforehand, the company just comes out to do the job, the Company will send AHS an invoice. Well I'll be! I ask if an invoice was sent to them from the company, I was informed no then was transfer to another department. I spoke with Ashley in Tennessee to inquire about the outcome. OMG that conversation went horribly wrong. I was over talked, she put her phone down 3 time to tell her co-workers she wasn't dealing with me and that she wasn't the one to be played with. Yep, I heard everything she said because again she put her phone down, instead of putting me on hold. I was literally on this call for 2:12 minutes. Requested to speak with a supervisor or Manager. She refused for a few long minutes before transferring me to her Manager voicemail. Tara her Manager did contact me back on 7/21/17, listen to my frustrations without interrupting me and assured me Ashley will be coached.

I contacted ASC, was told by so call Manager an invoice was sent on Wednesday, AHS should have contacted me. I informed her of the employee behavior and requested for him not to return back to my home. I wanted to know what was did his invoice stated. He wrote the AC evaporator coil can be fix instead of replacing the over could. I guess by us not having the entire job done he felt the need to say something totally different once he wrote up his invoice. AHS offer me $210 to have my AC evaporator coil weld base on the worker invoice, ASC wanted me to pay them $1150 for Freon. That's $1360. Come on are they serious? In a couple of months if not weeks we will be right back at square one. Paying someone to come out to fix this problem that could have been fix the right way from the beginning.

I called AHS again today, spoke with another Ashley in Texas, explain to her my concerns. She provided me with information that had nothing to do with my call. I became frustrated again and asked for a Manager because I knew she wasn't able to rectified the phone. She got upset, refused to transfer me to a supervisor, put me on hold without informing me. When question why she stated, "I forgot to tell you." Once I was connected to a Supervisor Karina she basically acted as if she was another representative with any remorse. I ask for a corporate email or address to address my concerns. Karina told me to go to their website to retrieve that information, she wasn't entitle to provide me such information. Really?

I still haven't received an invoice from ACS Absolute as of today for my service fee of $100. My AC is still broken and all I am told is that you have to take the amount that was offer to me for $210 or else stay hot basically. I will address this matter with someone in a higher position at AHS and just maybe my AC will get fix.

We have used several home warranty companies over the past 20 years as we have lived in 7 different states. American Home Shield is the worst in my opinion. This has nothing to do with the contractors or their performance, rather the American Home Shield process and customer service. We paid the contractor that performed the service and the contractor has sent the info to American Home Shield but we still show a past due. We have offered to provide invoice and cleared check. While this $75 was showing as past due, we were unable to request another repair online.

Once we finally were able to speak with someone, the rep explained that we could in fact submit another request but there was now a new system in place and for them to dispatch the service provider, we paid the $75 service fee by credit card before they dispatched. The service was performed but again we are reflecting a past due although it posted to our credit card. So now although I have a check that has cleared my bank 60 days ago and a credit card charge that posted a month ago, our account shows $150 past due. American Home Shield has sent me invoices reflecting past due and when I inquired, they said it would take up to 2 billing cycles to correct. That is inefficient and unacceptable.

If you file a claim using the web service, it won't be a problem, but if you need to talk to somebody, it’s not gonna be pretty - their phone menu is not good and they’re understaffed. Every time I tried to call to speak to somebody, I had a 45-minute wait.

We haven't had any problems with the contractors AHS sends but there's one time they had someone from Sears come in for the dishwasher. They give you the four-hour window and for whatever reason, the first time they set up the guy got hung up on other jobs so they couldn’t get to us that day. Instead of working us in the next day which is what I think they should have done, they gave us the next available appointment which was five days later. I also had to take half a day off to wait for them.

American Home Shield was prompt but the techs that came out don't know a whole lot about their job. The first service guy got the refrigerator part working the first time. It's cold and my freezer works but it's not making ice. I can't understand why. An AHS contractor came out and took a piece off the refrigerator that was clogged with ice. He stuck his finger in and said it's getting water. The water that came through was the extra water that was left in the hole. He left thinking that was fixed.

Whoever took the initial call did not mention the icemaker. When the service guy came out, his invoice said, "The refrigerator was not getting cold." But I said, "It's not staying cold and the icemaker is not working." They didn't look at it because the water had stopped working for a minute. The first guy who came had to pinch the line to turn the water off so he could put a water valve on it. However, he didn't turn the saddle valve long enough. I called back and the lady kept insisting that the service man told her that I needed a plumber because something in the wall was not working. But I was getting water to the refrigerator. When the plumber came out, he got stuck on a job somewhere but he called to say he was running late but he will come. He checked the refrigerator and he said everything was working fine, including the saddle valve. My freezer actually works, but it’s just not making ice.

Then I called in and spoke with a customer service rep who seemed to know what she was talking about. But then she told me she would call the serviceman that came out and tell him what the problem was. She also mentioned that she would tell him to call me. However, my icemaker is still not making ice and I've not heard from anyone. I've been buying ice and I'm fed up with that.

All the people on AHS' end have been super. They said they're going to find somebody immediately which they did. On the seventh of July, the technician came out and said I was low on Freon. He put Freon in and said that was what we needed. So, everything was good.

It's a second home so I wasn't there, but I went back there the next week and find out that it's not cooling. I called on the eleventh and got the tech back out there on the twentieth. He decided that the compressor was out. This was on a Thursday and that Friday, I was told by the tech's boss that he had ordered the compressor. But on the twenty-sixth, I called the boss and he said that he would check on the order but that the compressor had not come in. I called AHS late that afternoon because I had not heard back from the boss and they said he had just ordered the thing that morning.

Then, I got a call from a very nice lady. She said that they had ordered the compressor and that it would be in. She didn't know when it would be in but that it was going to cost me $350 for the new Freon. I said I've already paid for Freon one time and it didn't fix it. She said they're going to have to go back to the contractor and see why they weren't informed of that. It didn't cost AHS and the insurance didn't really help me at all on that. I'm frustrated about it.

It's very recent and it's still not resolved. I tried to go online and find out what was going on because I could not get the contractor's boss or the contractor on the phone and when I call their service number, generally the wait is very long. I was on the phone four different times and a couple of times were in excess of 30 minutes, one was almost an hour and the second time I got through at 45 minutes after I'd been on hold that long. That's way too long. But it's also really hard to do online because I put in all my information and it keeps on the reset on appointment. I couldn't find a way to get the status and I couldn't talk to anybody. Where it says to chat with a representative, it says that nobody is available and I could leave a message.

Also, when I asked to speak to a supervisor because nobody could tell me anything, I was being very nice but they said they don't know. I asked how do I go about getting to somebody to complain about what has happened because I had been without an air conditioner since the fifth of July. If this is the way this insurance is going to work, it's no good for me. It's almost as if American Home Shield wants to wait me out and I would finally hire somebody else to do it.

Which I did on the garbage disposal on the Memorial Day weekend. I called and they gave me a contractor who was in north Alabama, a plumbing company. I called the plumbing company and they said they'll be down here the following Wednesday. But I can't wait 'til Wednesday. I've got a house full of people and I've got to have a garbage disposal. I can't run the kitchen sink so, I ended up having to go buy the garbage disposal and install it myself. Which I've got no recourse to go back to AHS and say they owe me a garbage disposal.

It's the same thing with this air conditioner. It's going to get to the point where I'm going to have to fix it myself. Then, there's no way to complain. The lady gave me an address I can mail a complaint to. I've been without air condition since the fifth of July and for me to put a letter in the mail today, which might get there tomorrow and get opened on Monday or Tuesday of next week, is not a very good avenue for a quick response. But I've had an ice maker claim that the tech was pretty quick.

If I were running American Home Shield, I would at least make the system to where you could find out what the status is and if you're not happy with the status, you'd be able to file a complaint or try to get an update from somebody who can help you. The second thing is, this contractor who's doing this is a very nice guy and very confident in his technician but he's in Lanett, Alabama. That's five and a half hours away from me. If I don't get this thing resolved quickly, I don't think I'd be a customer of AHS again because I feel like it is a way to wait somebody out and let them fix it for themselves. I guarantee that if the people who are the principals of American Home Shield's air conditioner went out, they would not be near as patient as I have been. I would not recommend them at all but I have recommended them to a bunch of people. I've always had good luck but this hadn't worked out at all.

I had submitted claims for a garbage disposal and a washing machine before. Recently, it was the water softener, which wasn't working. It was older and needed to be replaced. Submitting my claim, the reps answered my questions and set me up with the contractor. It was excellent and I was called the same day. The contractor was good and he accommodated my work schedule. I drive a truck so I'm a little on different hours. Everything’s been good with my water softener since then. I'd recommend American Home Shield to anybody who's looking for a home warranty because they're really friendly. They get the contractor contacted and they get their service done within a timely manner.

I recently had a claim with AHS for air-conditioning. They’ve always been nice and I absolutely love them but their air conditioning guy was the best. I built a new house 10 years ago but I’ve lived here for 27 years. We have in this area called Blaylock Heating and Air. I hate them. They’re idiots and are horrible. I’ve never found a good air-conditioning man. When I called AHS and got this contractor, I love the guy. He’s wonderful and so nice plus he’s really been good. I’ve always had different and stupid problems before and he fixed it so much better. He also fixed the one upstairs that has gone out and would not work two summers ago.

Every year, I had to have it serviced and put more Freon plus there were leaks and he fixed it. It was amazing because it's now working great. It's old but I like it. What’s funny is, I’ve got another company calling me. It’s not American Home Shield but it’s the other one that’s on TV. He went on and on about how there’s a lot of complaints with AHS and I said, “Well, I’m okay. I haven’t had one.” I'm very satisfied with them and I recommend AHS all the time to people.

And then, I got a call the same day from the company that was coming to fix it. The technicians were there within two days and they were great. I was inconvenienced for a couple of days but it wasn’t too bad. I've started with AHS five years ago and it has always been a great service.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield is on my air conditioner that went out. It was easy to go online, fill out a form and fill the claim. After that they sent me a text of their independent contractor to come out. I did it on a late Thursday evening and on Friday I stalked the contractor to get him to come out quickly. He came out on Friday and told me that the problem was the compressor. He had to contact AHS to let them know that they had to order a part. A week went by and I didn't hear from anyone so last Friday I contacted AHS and was unfortunately put on hold for an hour until the customer service rep was able to speak to me. When I spoke with her, there was no information given from the contractor to American Home Shield about ordering a part.

I also called the contractor on Friday and told them that there is something wrong and that AHS is not showing any information. I asked them to help me out to contact AHS and make sure they are ordering the part but I did not hear back from him. Additionally, I was posting on Facebook about the fact that I was on hold for a long time and there's no information and AHS asked me to email them my contract number and the information. I did that on Friday as well and I have yet to hear back from them either.

I'm a week without air conditioning in Northern Arkansas and in the 90's all week, this week too. We ended up having to go out and purchase a $300 window unit that we didn't need. There are fans everywhere and my electricity bill is running 24/7 so I'm sure that this is going to affect me a lot more financially. My previous claims that have happened went a lot better. It was on my oven and it took them a week to get the part. There was also communication. They'd call and schedule when they came. I don't know if this was just a one-off but their reliability has been inconsistent.

I submitted a claim over the phone for the stove and a dishwasher to American Home Shield. The representative I spoke with was pretty straightforward, easy questions and couldn’t get much simpler. The contractor they sent was good. The only problem I really had was the part for the oven. It was on back order and that wasn’t really the contractor's fault. There will have to have been two service calls. The first call, he couldn’t fix it on his own. There was a computer part and that’s the back ordered part but he did as much as he could on the first time. Other than that, it was timely. I need to make another claim pretty soon because for some reason the AC is having some problems now. And having American Home Shield has been worth it so far.

My overall American Home Shield experience has been a nightmare. My air conditioner that failed at a property in Oak Drive, Long Grove, Illinois. It's our first claim and we submitted it by calling in. Filing the claim wasn't hard, but they dragged it out. The person came and fixed it. Within a week, there was a recall because whatever fix they did was only for a day, then my tenant said it's not working. After the recall, the company that came out in the first place couldn’t come out for at least eight to nine days. They were very busy. AHS then gave us an outside authorization to call somebody else whom we knew, so we went ahead and called Air Blue Heating and Cooling who normally we use for our rental properties and for our home. They came and looked at it, and they told us that the unit is 23 years and we shouldn't try repairing it and replace it instead.

We submitted the said recommendation to AHS and they wanted a second opinion. All of this happened when Chicago was going through very hot and humid weather, like in upper 80s and 90s. My tenants have two little kids, one five and one two and a half, and an elderly mother. They were not happy about it. The second opinion guy came out and when I asked him what does he think, he told me that he would recommend replacing the unit and that it's too old. I thought that’s what AHS is going to do, replace the air conditioner, but then they came back to our surprise and recommended a convoluted repair where we had to pay $480 out of pocket on top of paying the deductible of $100. That was completely unacceptable to us because by now, it has been almost a week into the whole thing and my tenants were very restless.

They were saying they're going to move their family to a hotel, and it was unacceptable. It was a nightmare situation. I was contemplating getting temporary wall units to keep but it's a big house, 3200 square feet house. Finally, they just wouldn't replace the unit. They said they will leave the condenser as it is and only change the compressor inside, and that they will flush out the refrigerant and replace it with a substitute. That would be six pounds. They also told us that according to our contract, they will only pay $10 per pound, and that we have to pay for the $480 then they will replace a coil inside the house by the furnace. We told them that that is unacceptable. First of all, they're trying to do patchwork on a 23-year-old unit, and they want us to pay for $580 including the deductible for that. They told us that we could take it or leave it.

Ultimately, they did a buyout and they put in a new air conditioner. We paid $3,825 out of pocket after a lot of negotiation with Air Blue Heating and Cooling. Then AHS sent us a check for $1,572. They paid less than half the cost of the unit, which they should have replaced. They shouldn’t use loopholes like the refrigerant. They were trying to force us to replace it at our cost and making us pay for it. Going forward, they would've spent too much, but we bought the new air conditioner where they wouldn't have. Although it's on coverage, they would never have to do anything for at least two years.

They made it sound like they are doing their best and all that, but they put a big price tag. They knew, for such an old unit, we wouldn't want to spend $580 and rather replace it. So they forced us to replace it but made us pay for it. If it was our house, we would somehow manage with something, but we don’t want the tenants suing us, saying that their elderly mother fainted or something happened to their kids. We were really worried about the situation so we canceled the policy after we got the check.

My air conditioner was not cooling properly, so I called American Home Shield. Their reps were very good and the only bad thing was I had to wait forever before they finally answered. The turnaround time was very good though. AHS was very thorough and prompt in getting people out. They called the contractors that, in turn, called me the same day. I filed the claim on a Friday, so the contractors said they’d come out on a Monday, which was fine. If I did this on a Monday, they would have been out the next day.

When the repairman came out, I was told that AHS doesn’t pay for Freon and paid around $10, but that’s about $80 for each pound of Freon. My experience with AHS was fine but their coverage wasn’t in this case because I wasn’t willing to put Freon in to have it leak out again in two weeks, and then put Freon in again. The repairman would have to come back and see where the AC was leaking, so that would be another service call. The guy said my furnace was so old that if it was the condenser on top of the furnace leaking, it would have to be replaced, and that was the only thing that AHS would cover. So, I just paid the $75 to have the gentleman check my AC out and decided not to go further with AHS on this claim, and instead I went ahead and fixed the AC on my own.

This claim wasn’t a good one for me, but we’ve had other issues where I made a claim and AHS sent someone out and everything went fine. They offered very good service, did everything they said they’d do, and followed through with what they offered. They were also very good at explaining what I had to pay. I canceled the services of AHS though because I now have new items of everything they cover, such as a brand new stove and refrigerator, so, I don’t need to use them.

I was an AHS customer from January 2006 to February 2017. They were good for making small repairs, etc. However, last summer (2016), our upstairs A/C unit stopped working and the downstairs A/C unit began making extremely loud noises. It took 2 months for AHS to repair them, which is an eternity in the Oklahoma heat. They were incredibly un-responsive and dismissive. I had to wait on hold for no less than an hour each time I called just to get updates. In the end, they wouldn't replace the units, instead opting to wait several weeks for parts that were no longer available from the original manufacturer to become available elsewhere.

The final straw was in September of 2016 when we had a toilet quit on us. They sent out a contractor who erroneously stated that the malfunction was due to "improper installation" notwithstanding the fact that this toilet had worked fine for 10-15 years. It defies logic that a toilet can operate just fine for that long in spite of "improper installation". Had to pay out of my own pocket to have it replaced. AHS said they would refund the service fee. They never did, of course. Terrible company with awful service.

We had an a/c leak that was inside the house (in the air handler) that was leaking onto hardwood floors. We called and a tech was sent out within 24 hours. He came and never opened the a/c unit and never found the actual leak, he proclaimed the problem was a build up of water in the drip pan; caused by lack of a pea trap on the condensation line (and if it wasn't that it was because the unit wasn't level). I tried to get him to explain how it was leaking on the high front side and the "unlevel" pitch was to the back. I also checked the drip and there was no water in it. Within 30 minutes of leaving the a/c began leaking again. We called both the repair company AAA Appliance and American Home Shield, which we were on hold for over 45 minutes for both. The repair company said they were not coming back out because it was an issue with the levelness of the unit.

Upon looking up reviews of the a/c company they have a 2.8 rating with the BBB, which is really hard to be that bad, and most of the poor reviews were in relation to the AHS home warranty. AHS said they had to wait to receive the diagnosis from repair company. We pleaded with them that regardless of the diagnosis the original leak was still happening. We were told that they had to get the diagnosis and then that would go to some other department and then a new a/c company could be dispatched. Each step would take 24-48 hrs, so another 3-6 days before a new repair company would come.

At this point we paid for our own a/c company to come out on an emergency diagnostic, he found the leak immediately upon opening the front panel of the unit. At which point he found the main coolant line was touching the front panel and not over hanging the drip pan. He pushed it back some and it reduced the dripping tremendously. He did not do a full repair because we were determined to get AHS to remedy the problem. Upon speaking to 2 different representatives of AHS we were told a new company could come out to check but if the diagnosis was DIFFERENT we would have to pay another service fee.

At this point I demand a supervisor who called us 24 hrs later, and explained that both reps were wrong, if the diagnosis was the same we would be charged. A new a/c company was dispatched, found the exact same issue as our private company, main coolant line over hanging drip pan. He fixed the problem in 15 minutes. I asked him about the levelness of the unit and he checked and said it was perfectly fine and no chance that was the issue.

AHS should be ashamed to use a company with such poor ratings, (the 2nd company had a 4.4 rating). AHS should also be ashamed that when the customer tells them that the original problem was not resolved their response was we need to wait 3-6 days to get someone else out. They stood by and backed their repair company vs hearing the customer who is paying for the service. This is why we will be switching home warranties.

I did complain because it came to $200+. AHS was gracious enough to lower the amount. Also, the contractor was 1/2 hour late to the appointment.

I am currently going into my third week with no a/c. My house is currently 90 degrees. It takes too long once a call is made to get service, it takes a week. When trying to call to get service I am on hold for a minimum of an hour. So after finally getting service the technician isn't able to fix it. Then I have to call and be on hold for another hour to put in another service request. I have two small children.

At first, the owner/tech that answers to the phone number #832-257-4367 took a long time to get to my house to service my unit - 3-4 days. I had to keep calling him and he said he was busy, to call him back, so I kept calling until he finally showed up. Then he had to order parts to get the unit fixed.

Once fixed he sent me a text (I have the text) and he lied and said that my condenser outside needed service, needed cleaning and needed refrigerant and that he would charge me $250 for that maintenance service that American Home Shield didn't cover. My husband had just had the A/C unit serviced (annual cleaning service) and the condenser was checked including the refrigerant, therefore he LIED, and when I told him that we had just serviced the outside unit he said, "Well, I just looked from above and seemed like it needed service." Please do not ever send that company again to my house.

I've had a pending AC service issue yet to be resolved by AHS since June 9. Finally after 2 months with a broken AC and numerous visits by the service provider they find that it's the AC lines which are not covered under the policy. We have an infant and it's been 90f+ in Florida. The service provider is incompetent in that they couldn't figure it out the first time. AHS doesn't help. Each call into them to speak to a manager involved on average a 2-hour wait time. Managers are not readily available, they do not follow up with call backs as they themselves promise. AHS should send loaner portable AC units to their customers who have AC issues where the service provider is unable to resolve the issue.

I am still waiting for a manager to call me. If I could receive a dollar for every minute on hold with AHS or wasted by the inefficient service provider by now I would have been able to purchase a new state of the art 3 ton AC unit. There is better service provided by companies in the poor third world than what I have experienced. If you are ever assigned the service provider AAA All brands appliance LLC out of South Florida Office: +19548660665. Email:** (operator: Alice). I suggest you tell AHS to assign Another servicer. The aforementioned servicer is also notorious for scheduling and confirming appointments and not showing up. I have left work (without pay) waiting on their "confirmed" tech several times to find out I wasted my time and lost money because I left work. What a failure.

No other way to reach them is my problem. Failure to fix in timely manner is my problem. If case of a part delay, the customer simply waits, uninformed. This level of service should be unacceptable. They told me it is normal. Unless this business changes dramatically, they deserve to fail, and surely will. If you are ever offered AHS insurance, run away quickly.

The latest claim I had with American Home Shield was for my toilet. It was my second claim on it, and the problem was the same. It was rocking and making noise, even if nobody was sitting on it. The rep that I had talked to was fine. The second contractor told me that the first one should have done something to it and that the first one should have done what he did. The second contractor used a little rubber thing, not a snake, to go in there and get the hair out of the drain, the sink and the bath tub. It had a little hook on it and he stuck it in there and then pulled the hair out. The toilet is now fine but it's starting to make noise again, but not like before. I haven't worried about it too much. Overall, I'm pleased and I can recommend them.

I live in an older home and it's been remodeled but I’m sure things will break down, so I bought a warranty. We were out-of-town the first week of June and when we got back in, I discovered that the drain line in the AC system was backing up and leaking in my garage. I filed a claim with American Home Shield and it was all automated. The contractor was professional. He explained to me what he was doing and told me that once a month to go down the drain to keep the line from building up and backing up. Since the repair, I haven’t had a problem with it.

However, I had an issue with AHS back in February. My warranty was coming due in March. They called me and wanted me to do it over the phone and I will get a lower rate. We took off something and added my garage door opener. Then when it came due, they took $85 more than what they told me. It was supposed to be a $100 discount. I've been frustrated with that. I've called numerous times and I have not heard back from them. They kept saying they see it and they’re investigating. It had been months ago and I get emails to give me quotes about more warranties, but that’s all I've ever received from them. I have recommended AHS, but at this point, I'm not sure if I'll continue with them or not.

We were satisfied on one claim with American Home Shield but the other one has been a nightmare. The person who fixed the stove did a good job. I waited a long time to get it done because of a part and it was not their fault. They were very professional. However, I’m dissatisfied with the experience with my KitchenAid dishwasher. The contractor that came told me that several expensive parts had to be replaced and the bad news was one of them was not available. When I asked what’s next, he said that they would call me and offer options, but they never did. We were waiting on whether we would put out a lot in an old machine or use the money toward a new one. We would prefer to get a new one but to pick it out ourselves, even if the part could be replaced.

I called many times at different dates and talked to many different ladies. They were all very nice and professional. They would listen, call options or another department that would say they would get back with me within a day or two. We were waiting with a broken dishwasher since April 21st. By June 6, we felt we needed a dishwasher, so we bought one and had it delivered on the 9th. On the 12th, the contractor called to say that AHS found an available part elsewhere and I told them that since I didn’t hear back since April after I reached out to try to get options, we went out and bought a dishwasher. Then we were waiting again to hear what would happen from American Home Shield.

On June 17th, we called customer service to tell them that we still didn’t hear back and that we were having an awful experience. The lady eventually got to someone in Authorization and asked us to send my invoice in with my dispatch number and contract number, so I did, but I neglected to include that the lady who spoke to Authorization said this was not done in the proper order but to just submit them. By this time, I was taking so many notes and we were so thankful it was coming to an end until it went to the reimbursement center.

On the 22nd, I got a letter back saying they denied the reimbursement request but I should contact them if I had additional information that I would like to have reviewed to support my request and I’ve been trying to do this letter for hours and days, telling them of the things that happened. It’s been very stressful and it’s taking so much time out of our lives.

But over the weekend, I received the bill saying that I owed $75 for Sears. Other than that, submitting the claim was fine. Before him, I had somebody else to come out to repair our socket and I've never had any problem with AHS at all except for that one time. They have been good and I have relied on them to do my repairs. They send out good people to do good work and I've been satisfied with results I've received. I would recommend them to a friend.

The contractor called and wasn't going to come out as fast as we wanted, but when I explained to him that every few hours we were Shop-Vacing and we were trying to keep it from overflowing, he moved some things around and came out faster. He got out that day, figured out what was wrong and fixed it. The air conditioning is working fine now and we're very happy with it. I got what I paid for. I've seen people that have these warranties where they couldn't get the guys out and I was very pleased with the way it all came down for me. I've also recommended AHS to others.

I bought this house a little over a year ago. My husband passed away last year and this is all new to me. The tank where the hot water heater is located has water in it and a pipe. When it overflows, the water will come down the pipe. When I was coming in the house last Friday, I saw the water then I went downstairs and one of the two hot water heaters was leaking. Instead of overflowing and coming through the roof, it has a pipe that runs through the garage.

When I saw it, I called American Home Shield and I got a voicemail. I left a message and then somebody from A&S called me back and made an appointment for today between 12:00 and 5:00 -- they haven’t made it, it’s 10:00. But the first time I called, they came on out and did the job. When American Home Shield came out for the air conditioner, my son was here. It was okay. He didn’t have any complaint. The air conditioner is working now. I’m satisfied.

Our most recent experience with AHS wasn't a good one. Our air conditioner went out and we called them on a Tuesday. They told us the earliest that somebody could come out would be Thursday or Friday. So, we made an appointment for Friday. They called us and told us they were on the way. Bu they never came. Because they’re not open on weekends when I called in they said that they would send somebody out the following Thursday.

The first claims rep seemed like a normal customer rep that would try to answer all the questions and see what she could do. It wasn’t until I talked with the second person that I felt like she really cares. She was really interested in trying her best to get us help and get somebody out. She even went and got her supervisor and they both worked on trying to get somebody to us together. And when they said they would come on Monday, they came an hour before they were supposed to come and they were apologetic. She even called back to see that everything worked out and if they showed up on time and if we got the problem solved.

We eventually got the air conditioner fixed. It turned out we needed some Freon in our air conditioning system. The contractor was awesome. He figured that problem out so fast and fixed it so fast. He had the air on before we even knew that the air was on. We’ve had American Home Shield for a long time, so I was baffled that they did not give us a good experience. But that was the only time I’ve had that issue with them. All the time we’ve had them, they normally come out when they say they are and do what they say they’re going to do.

I’m in the middle of selling my house and the contract stated that I will get an American Home Shield warranty on it. I did that and lo and behold, on that same week, the AC quit working. Submitting the claim was terrible. I sat on the phone literally for 45 minutes with that elevator music going and waiting for someone to answer my call. That was on a Saturday and it wasn't that big of a rush but I was headed to the beach. We were leaving on Sunday and we were gonna be gone all week. When I got someone on the phone, I told them I wasn’t gonna be available immediately.

When I called AHS on Monday morning, they set up an appointment with Myers but I have never heard from Myers to set up the appointment. I ended up calling AHS that afternoon and again, waited 45 minutes on the phone waiting for them to answer. When finally someone came on the phone, they looked it up and they had canceled the appointment. I asked why and they said that it was not an emergency. It’s not an emergency because no one’s home but my AC still has to be fixed and they scheduled it again. They scheduled it for that Thursday and I said no because I had to come home that day because I've got some business to take care of and it had to be fixed before Thursday.

AHS ended up calling the second one on the list, Trinity Heating and Air, and was scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday. I told AHS my next-door neighbor would help them get in the house. They came and got it fixed. They had to replace the capacitor and the AC has been fine since then. The service from Trinity was really good and they were very nice over the phone. Then, I had to call AHS again because the pilot light of my hot water heater will not stay lit. I just had work done on it two or three weeks before. I called the gas company and they replaced something before I even had the warranty. It worked for several weeks and now, a week and a half before I’m closing on the house, it’s not working again. AHS was better in responding to that call. But I would definitely not recommend them right now

Let me begin by saying that if I could give zero stars as a review, I would. I have been a customer of this company for over 7 years and have rarely used the service. When I first started with the company, they were responsive to service requests and provided great service. The last several times I have made service requests, AHS has been absolutely worthless and I have had to secure and pay for service on my own.

Twice, I have had problems that could have potentially caused great damage to my home, but the contractors with whom AHS set me up could not schedule me for several days. One was an electrical problem that had a high probability of causing a home fire. The soonest I could get an appointment was 5 days later. Obviously, I called an electrician on my own, who happened to come out the SAME DAY (and on a holiday, at that) to fix the problem. This latest issue was a plumbing problem. I have water seeping up through my bathroom tiles. The soonest a plumber could get to me was three days later. Again, to avoid serious damage to my home, I had to secure and pay for a different plumber, who has given me an appointment for tomorrow (one day after the service request).

When I called to complain, I was on hold for 58 minutes. When the representative finally answered, I informed her that I would like to cancel my active service request and cancel my account. I was placed on hold for an additional 10 minutes. I cannot believe the terrible customer service. For the cost of the warranty (over $50 per month) the service and response time should be much, much better. I will save that monthly fee and use it to pay for quality service from providers who are actually responsive to their customers. If you speak to reputable contractors, they will tell you that they refuse to deal with AHS for the same reason... Poor customer relations and sub-standard service.

16 July 2017 we turned in a claim on a defective hot water heater. Service provider came out and inspected hot water heater and turned in info to American Home Shield. Claim was denied. Called American Home Shield and asked why. They sent out another technician to inspect water heater. He sent info to American Home Shield and they stated it was definitely covered. This was 3 days later on 19 July 2017. No contact from American Home Shield, so I called them on Friday 7-21-2017. Spoke to person at AHS and she stated the claim was covered and would be repaired.

I asked when. She stated it would take up to 48 hrs to get claim handled. I asked to speak to supervisor. I was then transferred to no one. This call lasted for 1 hour and 16 minutes. I finally hung up as there was no one picking up. Nothing. It is now 7-24-2017 and still no call back from AHS. The original service tech called me on 7-22-2017 and asked if I wanted to pay for claim in full, if so he would come out and install heater. I explained AHS had stated it was a covered loss. He said he would contact AHS and get back to me.

As of this date (7-24-2017) still no call back from anyone. It has been 8 days since claim was filed. This company only cares about getting their premiums paid and apparently doesn't care about actually covering a claim. The person I spoke with last Friday reprimanded me for being upset in my tone of voice. (Her condescending tone apparently didn't make any difference).

I explained I was quite upset and would like to have some service instead of a reprimand. That's when I was transferred to nothing. Dead air. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If this is the service they provide, it is obviously quite poor to say the least. I am at this moment on hold on the phone for 32 minutes and counting, still waiting for a person to answer.

I'm leaving this review to hopefully help other consumers make an objective decision with a home warranty company. I pay quite a bit of money for an extensive home warranty coverage plan (roughly $740 a year). AHS has been pretty good for the last four years we've used them, until recently. First, the hold time to talk to someone at AHS is horrendous, but when they finally answer they are professional and courteous. The last event that took place where I needed their coverage was an issue with our dishwasher not closing properly. The contracted appliance repair company they chose (CPR Appliance) out of Garland, TX was slow and incompetent.

It took several days for them to do the repair (more than the 48 hours promised by AHS). They came out and did the repair, but caused more issue after repairing. The dishwasher subsequently began leaking water, after CPR did their work on it. CPR Appliance claimed the appliance was installed incorrectly, but here's the rub... The dishwasher never leaked in the 4 years we've lived here until CPR came out. Now American Home Shield refused to replace the appliance based on CPR's call notes. I even asked to speak with a supervisor at American Home Shield and they have failed to reach out to me and help resolve the issue. I hope this helps someone make an educated on their next home warranty company they choose.

We called American Home Shield on July 15 because our AC had stopped working. They sent out Cote's Mechanical on July 17. The contractor tells us that our damper motors was completely missing and that he didn't know what was wrong with our AC and that they would have to bring in a specialist to repair it at $2000. I called AHS and spent over an hour and a half on hold and never got to speak to anyone. I called back Tuesday morning to AHS and was told that the contractor never submitted the diagnoses for our unit. They called and told them about the issue. I called Cote's Mechanical and was told by them that they submitted the issues and it would take 48 to 72 hours for approval from AHS. So I called AHS and was told that the statement was not true and that it cost of the parts was under the price that needs approval.

Cote's calls me back and says the parts will be in Thursday or Friday. I didn't receive a call back from Cote's so, giving the benefit of the doubt, I called and left 3 messages as to when we could expect them out on Friday. My calls was not returned. So again I call AHS and spent over an hour on hold to find out that Cote's had not received the parts and that they would be out Saturday. I never received a call Saturday so I called late Saturday evening, spent close to an hour on hold and was told they hadn't received the parts and to call back Monday morning. As I type this, I called this morning at 7 am when they opened only to find out they have not gotten a hold of Cote's but would call me back in two hours. It has now been 4 hours and I still have not received a phone call. This has been going on for 9 days. At what point is AHS in breach of contract?

Last summer I submitted a request for service, paid the service fee twice, and was told by one company they sent that they couldn't find the parts needed to fix because of the age of my unit and another said that I did not need a new unit (mine was 40+ years old) but rather there was a leak someplace in my walls. I went around and around with AHS who told me that I had no recourse. They were rude and condescending. I bought fans to get through the rest of the summer.

In May I decided to try one more time and submitted a new request for the same service. This time my condenser and blower were replaced. I was told by the service reps that for someone to say I needed anything else was ridiculous. The contractor that finally fixed my problem was wonderful. AHS promises delivery of quick and expedited service, both in locating a contractor and having quality control around the contractor showing up and work order completion. AHS failed on both aspects. Re: My HVAC, I was assigned a contractor immediately through their online system. The contractor has been completely unresponsive to scheduling (JMC Quality Air in New Jersey). Repeated calls (in the middle of a heat wave) to JMC, I took up the issue with AHS. The AHS response has been dissatisfactory - I asked to be reassigned to a new contractor. They are now asking for me to find my own contractor and follow procedures for authorization. Violation of promises of what AHS promises it delivers its customers. Anyone have similar issues with AHS?

It took a bit of work but in the end all electrical issues resolved and the pool pump was totally replaced.

I have called your company for repairs on two separate occasions. It takes a long time to receive service from you. You are really not a good company. We have been waiting for a air condition repair since July 16, 2017. Some sorry company came out and partial fix the air condition and never came back or called. We are elderly people and to be in a house with no air for over a week on the hottest days of the year is not accepted. We thought you would be a great fix for us and realize this was the worst move we could have made. The long holds on line and the refusing to answer your phone is really annoying.

I would like to let people know if they are thinking about a contract with you please don't do it. It's only throwing your money away. Get rid of those no good contractor and give the people what they deserve. By the way we had to pay $100 just to get them out here, do you really think that's RIGHT!!!! American Home Shield has been recommended by our family members. So we signed a contract with them. They are very nice people and we love to work with them. The water heater stopped working. And we told AHS that for some reason, the water is cold and it's not heating. The water heater is working fine now. We recently did not have problems with them but in a previous time, we did because they forced us to purchase something which was absolutely not necessary.

I called our regional home inspector from our government and he sent me regulations to show that there was no need for this item and we were forced to pay. And I talked to a supervisor from American Home Shield and I explained that we have well water and the pressure is not so high. And so, if we would need it, inspectors would tell us when we build the home. And when they installed the first water heater, they did not say anything. Then when they installed the second, suddenly, they said we have to have it. So, that was very odd. But we've been recommending them to our friends here.

The house that we bought is 22 years old and we've been in it for seven years. We got a policy from American Home Shield and we've used it for things. We had plumbing leaks and last year we had our water heater replaced. Recently, we had submitted a claim for our central air conditioning and it has been going on since late June. Our units are 22 years old and I have one downstairs and one upstairs. I could keep the house at about 72 if I keep the thermostat at about 66 for the one downstairs but it was mid 80's upstairs during the day so it was warm.

I had two visits from the first company and five from the second company that American Home Shield sent out. The first tech told me the reason we're having problems was because we had our bedroom doors closed. We have a bedroom that we’re remodeling and we close the door and shut off the vent. I said that the door was closed for about two years and we didn’t have the problem last year. So he went and said my condenser was dirty. He cleaned it then he left but nothing changed. I called American Home Shield back and told them that the tech didn’t fix anything. The next guy they sent came from the same company and told me that the filters that I was using were preventing the air flow. He also told me to change the filters which I did. We even opened all the doors and made sure all the vents were open but nothing changed.

On the third visit, the tech put refrigerant into the AC unit downstairs which cost $165. He said that the AC unit upstairs was fine so I asked why was it not cooling. Also, part of the problem that I encountered was that I live North of Little Rock and at the beginning of the summer it was relatively cool. We had storms most of the days when these techs showed up so the temperatures were around 80 and it wasn’t as hot in the house as the techs deemed sufficient to do any fixing. They would come in, point their little gun at my vent and say that it’s blowing cold air. I took pictures of the thermostat and I had a spreadsheet which I showed to them to let them know the temperature inside and outside, but they didn’t care and didn’t want to see them. They said that as long as the AC were running there’s nothing they can do.

On the fourth visit, the tech adjusted the pressure of the flow and my system that had been limping along now didn’t work at all. He left at about 3:00 in the afternoon and by 5:00, the temperature had risen seven degrees downstairs. I called his company and asked the tech to come back and undo what he did but he did not return my call. I called American Home Shield and it has been frustrating with them because I can open a new service request online but I can’t recall an existing one. I had to call them and I consistently had wait time of an hour or more before I get a person. I also had one person who was extremely rude to me because they were sick of hearing from me but it was because nothing was happening.

The tech who did the adjustment and made things worse was the owner of that company. He came back the next day, stood on my front porch and said that I've been flagged by American Home Shield and that his company was not giving me a new system. I said that I didn't say anything about a new system and I just wanted this one fixed. I asked him if he can undo whatever he did but he said that I was so disrespectful and his people didn’t want to work with me. But I never swore at anybody, called anybody names or slammed the door. He said that I pointed my finger at him but I told him that it was my eighth service call and I was frustrated because my AC units were not doing anything at all.

He wouldn’t even come in and look at anything. He said that what he did was by the book and he's calling American Home Shield to report me. It’s taken everything I had not to get on social media and blast him. He said that I can't threaten him then he got in his truck and left. We went the whole weekend with no AC. I have a good friend who lived here in town for a long time and she’s got a really good AC tech who doesn’t work with American Home Shield. We had him come out and diagnose the system. He told us what was needed to be done and we paid him $140 to do that. He was so much better and so much nicer.

Then American Home Shield sent out a new contractor and I showed the ACs to them. They were very good about getting in there, looking at things and taking all the information that I gave them about what was happening. They have busted their butts not only on the work that they’ve been doing but in terms of being my advocate to American Home Shield about getting the system fixed. They could have band-aided it but they said that for the age of the system, something else is going to break so they got the new system. They replaced my downstairs unit this past Monday and they are planning to replace the upstairs unit this coming Monday. I had to pay $190 because when they took out the old system, they had to pull out all that old coolant and dispose of it.

But if I want to sell my house in a year or two and people want to know the age of the ACs, I don’t have any kind of paperwork that says their brand, year and tonnage. The techs just assured me that it was all the same with others and it’s not that I don’t trust them, but somebody might not take my word for it a year or two down the road so I’m a little nervous about that.

While I am happy that I’ve got a new system, the length of time and how much aggravation I had to go through were very stressful. I’m on disability because of health issues and stress really impacts me and this has been really horrible. We had to put down my vat last week, and it was added stress, plus the fact that I really felt like I was trapped at home because I had to call American Home Shield and wait for them to tell me who they’re going to send out. Then whoever they’re going to send out had to call me and make an appointment, so I was always home waiting for either a phone call or a technician. This went on for about six weeks and I’ve got it all documented.

Also, when contractors come out they tell me that the things that they're coming out for are things that AHS wouldn't cover anyway. Why would AHS put me through the process if they don't cover water pressure issues? I've been showing out the deductibles on all incidents only to find out it would have been cheaper if I called somebody myself in the beginning. As a matter of fact, I paid twice the last time since I ended up paying the deductible to the company that came out and AHS also deducted it to my account. Fortunately, AHS was able to refund it but it's not as good of an experience as I had hoped. I'm very dissatisfied with them. I feel I'm wasting my money paying for American Home Shield.

The only thing was he took my filter out and I don’t know how to put it back in. I didn’t think to ask him where he got it from though. Other than that, the unit has been very good. I also had my air water heater done back in the fall and with that, they came up with all kinds of things where it came up to $455 which makes no sense. Overall, I would always recommend AHS to a friend because that's insurance you can’t beat. I wouldn't recommend some of the contractors though.

Our AC was not working. After our initial service request, we were informed that we needed to contact a company on our own (as AHS service companies were booked too far out). We had a company come out and the claim was denied as AHS wanted to get a 2nd opinion. We did not find that out until we called to check the claim status (nobody informed us). When I called to check on the initial claim, I was kept on hold for nearly 60 minutes. The person who answered said she didn't know anything and that the supervisors were in a meeting and that they'd be right with me. After another 30 minutes, I was told that I'd need to call back the next day, it that the claim was going to be sent for a second opinion.

When I called the next day, I was informed again of the 2nd opinion, but no other information, including the reason for the initial denial, was available. The entire process took a couple of weeks, before our AC was repaired. My biggest frustration is the lack of proactive communication on behalf of AHS... I spent entirely too much time following up when AHS should have been informing me of the situation. The hold times were unacceptable.

We signed up for AHS in March. It has been a total nightmare! The Central Air went out on a Saturday morning earlier this month, and we immediately called. We were told about the ease, comfort and reliability of AHS, so we were not concerned. After 98 temps and no AC for 10 days, we had to pay out of pocket, to get relief. They sent incompetent, unprofessional tech from 3 different companies, 5 different times, and nothing was fixed. The techs complained about calling in for authorization and waiting tirelessly on the line for hours with no avail. We were doing the same thing. One of the calls had us on hold for 5 hours! Sounds unrealistic and exaggerated, but it's not.

The techs from the 3 separate companies only argued with each other, and began a bashing AHS party in my side yard. They talked about delayed payments, no payments and a warehouse where they get can get parts but takes 7-10 days, and they don't like working for AHS!! We were forced to pay for the visits, without reimbursement and when we called in, the manager never called us back! We were told they would call within 24-48 hours and it's been 3 weeks!! We called to cancel and they didn't even care. Didn't ask about why, or if they could help, just said, "We figured that's why you are calling"!

The company is a huge rip off and if customers wanted to pay out of pocket, they would not have had a warranty!!! This company is by far the worst in customer service! Never give them your money, keep it and keep your sanity! They expect you to pay for it out of pocket, and hope you stop calling as the wait times are intentionally set to at least 1 hour holds at a time!!!

We've had to go through iterations of getting my 24-year old air conditioning unit serviced every year for the last five or six years. At one point, the contractors had put a new e-coil in it and then they put in two pounds refrigerant 21, which is about $120 a pound. But, American Home Shield won't pay for that refrigerant anymore. So, I had to stand the cost of that $260 plus, plus the $75 co-pay fee, for coming out. The unit worked for all three or four weeks and then it just went out. I put in the call and then they came out and looked at it and they said that the compressor was completely shot and it needed a new whole system. So, they said they were going to submit to American Home Shield to replace it.

The process getting through all of that took a little bit longer. It was coming out of Dayton, Ohio, but the contractor didn't know where it was. So we had to be calling and tracking it to work it out, which took over a week. Then the paperwork had to come from the installer and then American Home Shield must have some place where they get a cut rate in the unit and that had to be shipped in. Then, in the end, there was an additional co-pay with the new unit that was around $560. But, overall, it turned out good. The installers were out here in short order and they did it in less than three hours. I've had that company before on different things and they're one of the better ones that I've had to do service.

I've been down the road with AHS on a number of different things. But there was another company that I switched out two that had lower monthly things, but they were horrible. They didn't live up to what it was so after five or six months, I went back to American Home Shield even though their rates had gone up. But for the most part, the AHS reps were knowledgeable, friendly and were able to hook us up with a contractor.

We had a claim for our air conditioner on the main floor and the experience was horrible. I tried to submit it online and I got a message indicating that I couldn’t. I had to call customer service which took forever to do. And when I finally got someone, she told me, “Oh, your policy is cancelled.” But I have been deducted monthly and went on a credit card. She said that we were dropped because of over utilization and that they sent us a letter which we did not receive. Also, I've read my contract and I haven’t seen anything in there that says, “You could be potentially dropped for utilization.” And we're paying AHS if services are needed.

We had a high-end GE Profile refrigerator and for about a year and a half, they’ve been sending guys out for repairs. And to me, that was AHS’ fault because they should have at a certain point assisted and said, “Do we need to replace it?” But they’ve sent about nine different vendors out to try to fix that one refrigerator and I feel we're being penalized for it. It was for an ice maker, which is something fairly simple, but nobody could get it right. And I think that was the utilization because the other thing the rep argued was we had to do the washer and a refrigerator downstairs. AHS wouldn’t pay for the ref and would rather pay a vendor. We have been customers for a while and I'm really disappointed. In the end, I'm a duplicate customer because my mom died, so I still maintain her condo. I have services at another property too. It's horrible. I will not do business with them again and I'm going to be looking for something different.

American Home Shield has been fantastic, really easy to deal with and their services were provided quickly and efficiently. When I called, they sent somebody out. I’ve also used their website one time and I've been very happy that’s why I renewed my contract. But my recent service call ended up getting messed up with Sears who was provided to fix the stove. When the gentleman first came out, he wasn’t sure what the model number was. Also, the appointment was 08:00-12:00 but he got here five of 12:00 and didn’t leave until 01:30. But he found the problem then he made a schedule on a Saturday and gave me a print out of the appointment.

I left my vacation early to come and be here on Saturday but no one showed up. I called Sears and they said someone rescheduled me for Monday. I told them they can’t reschedule me without asking me if I was available on that day. I was not happy with the situation and they were really unprofessional. Everyone I spoke to gave me the runaround. But we rolled with Sears and I took off work Monday morning because the stove has not been working for a while and I wanted to get it fixed. The tech who came out said that sometimes they get really busy on Saturdays, they only have so many people and the technicians just reschedule people without asking. I said it would have been nice if they called me on Friday, said they’re overbooked and asked if they could do it Monday or Tuesday. But I didn’t even get a phone call.

Also, Sears kept confirming if I was with American Home Shield and I asked them if it had something to do with them not showing up. I even asked them if they treated the customers of American Home Shield differently than customers that come directly to them. For them not to show up was really frustrating and it really irked me. But the panel where I push the oven on is working really well after the repair.

They fixed that but they told me that they were waiting on the parts for the washer and it should come in anytime. And I had to call back because it was a week and a half later and I still hadn’t heard anything from the contractor. He said that he saw in their notes that the person had already taken the parts for the washer elsewhere. He thought everything went at one time and it actually didn’t.

The contractor called to let us know in advance that he's on the way. He always called to double check and make sure that I got it. He was really good, he explained everything and came on time. He also did the dishwasher and there was something that was off-track on it. I was mad about that because I have been going a month without it, but he fixed that in two seconds. He also came out for the washer. What I liked is that it was the same guy that they send out who was really knowledgeable of what was going on with those, because sometimes they send somebody then they send somebody else and I have to start all over about explaining for the other. The performance had been going really well since the appliances had been repaired.

The only thing that happened in the past that at one point I was going to actually switch was the fact that I had a stove that was messed up. And what happened was they kept ordering the same part over and over and it kept going out. They did that for over a year and a half and nobody ever did the research. They kept putting all this money to the same part and kept replacing until they almost replaced every part on the stove. And then we still have problems.

I would have to go months and months without a stove. I would think they would have counted. Why would I pay this kind of money? They could have bought a stove three times. I got it for my mother. She's disabled and so she has to have her meals so that's the part they would frustrate me like I had to have somebody come out every week, and then they’ll say, “It would be three weeks when your part gets in.” Then finally, they replaced the stove and that’s the part I didn’t understand.

But whoever I talked to the last time with American Home Shield was so on top of it. They couldn’t believe that these people kept ordering this part either. They did what they did and I haven’t had any problems at all. I really like American Home Shield if I talk to the right people. Whoever their contractors were, I thought they’re different people and were really good. Overall they’re great and I would recommend them to someone.

I have had AHS for 10+ years. The service has diminished greatly. Every time I try to contact them I have to wait in excess of one hour. The wait time for outside authorization is the same and service providers will not wait to get an authorization code. I recently had an emergency as my well pump blew after 10 years. We had no water for three days and AHS was impossible to contact and when I did get through impossible to deal with. I eventually had to pay the $3000+ myself despite paying extra on my premium for this coverage each month. I am convinced this is a scam. I'm an attorney and intend on fighting this in court. They deliberately create a situation in bad faith that makes it nearly impossible for any contractor to get through to them for an authorization number. The contractors they send are incompetent thereby creating a need for multiple visits. This is a horrible service and waste of time and money.

I have always had horrible experiences with American Home Shield Home Warranty. I had a Kitchen Faucet which was leaking in Oct 2016 so I requested a repair. The assigned contractor came and broke the faucet. The insurance replaced the faucet and charged me $125 in addition of $75 deductible for modification. First of all, it was broken by their contractor and then they weren't able to find the same faucet so they had to do some modification for which I had to pay. I paid it anyway because it was creating a lot of inconveniences. The whole process took more than a month to get resolved.

Fast forward six months, the same faucet started leaking again and now it needs to be replaced again. They don't want to take any responsibility for that and asking me to pay for the visit again. Every single time I call them, I have to wait for at least an hour on the call to speak to a representative. Their representative will promise to call back but would never call back. There is no concept of customer service at all. I am not sure how are they still in business. I am very very dissatisfied with their service and would never recommend anyone to use American Home Shield again.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 17 years. They provided fast, easy repair services. I have not requested service for the last couple of years but have been paying my bill monthly. Not sure what happened but the response time is really long, the hold time on the phone is 40 minutes + every time I have called this last week - to get my service request resolved. I placed my service request online, no response for over 24 hours. I had to call - they have no email contact at all - waited over 30 minutes, rep told me there had been an error so she then placed my request.

Then I talked to the contractor who told me they could not help me until after August 1 - I placed the service request on 7/17. I called AHS again, waited for over 1 hour. Nice rep, he said I could use an outside contractor but that contractor would have to call in the AHS for the repair to be authorized. I don't have time to find a contractor, which is why I used AHS, and I really don't want a contractor to have to deal with these hold times, etc. The rep did give me a special #, so the contractor wouldn't have to wait so long, but I don't know if that's true.

Anyway, called back today, 7/22, waited over 50 minutes and the call got disconnected. Called back, waited about 40 more minutes, I think I still am maybe going to get service from the original contractor at some point. VERY frustrating. Can't even get a simple question answered without waiting over 40 minutes. No other contact info is available that I could find, not even a number or email address to call to cancel. You have them ranked as #1, I think you should revisit this. Used to be good, not anymore.

On or about MAR 2017 my property manager called AHS due to A/C issues at my rental property. The company sent out by AHS reported that the A/C failed due to lack of maintenance and would need to be replaced entirely. Then AHS refused service. The HVAC company provided an exorbitant quote to put in a new A/C (thousands of dollars). My property manager called another HVAC repair company to ascertain what had occurred given that the system had received periodic maintenance. The HVAC company that came out reported that components from my A/C had been stolen.

Given that the other company sent by AHS did not report missing components and had in fact provided an entirely different report (that the A/C was in a state of permanent failure due to lack of maintenance and would need to be replaced) we arrived at the conclusion that the company sent by AHS had in fact (1) attempted to scam us, (2) stolen components and (3) provided a false report. The replacement of the stolen components and repair cost me $555.40. The A/C has been functioning well since being repaired.

Upon calling AHS to register the complaint they expressed that it was not their issue, they could not refund the service fee, and that it was between me and the company. They had the audacity to impugn the veracity of my claim since my property manager had been unable to follow up–which is unsurprising given the lengthy (1 hour plus) wait times to reach a customer service agent. I simply requested that they refund the $75.00 service fee and they refused. When I asked to speak with a manager I was told none would be available.

Keep sending repair company to repair a part the company has already told us and AHS is not available -- backordered from manufacturer with no plans to recreate. Since the repair company has had to come out numerous times already, have requested appliance replacement. AHS says the THREE small of the 4 burners work, so it's technically not unusable. No concern that only the large NON WORKING burner has enough btu to boil water! At least 45 minute hold time to speak to live representative, and I've often tried several times of day. Very disappointing considering the cost of the warranty.

Our air conditioning unit needed repair, which is covered by our policy. First of all, it always takes >60min to get an agent on the phone. Once AHS was able to arrange a technician to look at our AC unit, he noted some possible damage to our compressor that may have been caused by rats. He recommended to replace the unit with a new external AC unit.

We learned a week later from AHS this service would not be covered, as it was categorized as "pest damage." We paid for a private technician to look our unit. He completed a thorough evaluation of the unit, and noted the compressor was 100% intact. The possible rat damage was superficial and unrelated to the malfunction of the AC unit. Instead, it is normal wear-and-tear damage, requiring further leak search/repair and Freon recharging. AHS is fighting us to the bone, as they dragged their feet long enough to allow our policy to expire before we could have an AHS-sponsored technician reevaluate our unit. I cannot recommend against this company more strongly. They are extremely difficult to work with given their universal phone wait times >1 hour (no matter day of week or time of day). In addition, they seek out loopholes whenever possible to avoid paying for required repairs.

At first the response to my online request was quick and someone was out first thing the next morning to check it out. That's where the communication died. Over the next 5 days I had to initiate calls and online chats to find out what was going on. I finally got an answer on Friday (this happened Saturday morning) that the water heater cannot be fixed and it was going to be $735 to have it fixed. Feeling cheated I asked what the cash out amount would be to have someone make repairs myself. They said that would be 2-3 days and I have to wait until someone calls me. Granted no one has called me from AHS since this started. I am doubtful they will call. I will probably be on hold with customer service another 90 minutes in a couple days to see where things are.

I'm usually that person that does like to write reviews even after I've been cheated... I usually just let it pass and leave it to God, but I've reached my limit!!! I can't do this anymore. So here it goes... I've had AHS for about a year now. At first had wonderful service. I have coverage for both of my properties. This past winter I used them for both my properties. The technician that serviced my rental house was awesome. He called me prior to his arrival and after. He made sure I understood everything that he did and explained the same to my tenants. I was very pleased.

Then my heater went out at my own house a few months later, again had a very pleasant experience. In April my both my AC units at my house stopped working. I immediately called American Home Shield. I was on hold for over an hour before I got to speak to a rep. It was over 96° in the house and both my son and I are asthmatic. They immediately sent me a text with the contracting company's name (United Home Temp), a phone number and told me they'd call me to set up an appointment which they did. On the phone both AHS and United Home Temp asked for the location of both AC units. I told them the heat pump was up in the attic, the other unit was in the utility room in the basement and outside systems were both in the back yard. The man came early in the morning the next day.

Upon arrival, he wanted to see the indoor units. I showed him and went on about my business. I gave him full access to the house. After about 20 minutes he was ready to talk about cost. He never made it up into the attic to check out the system because he said I did not provide a way to access it. I was confused. I showed you where it was and assumed just as the previous tech had done you'd use a ladder and get up there. He then told me it was my job to provide him with a ladder. So since I didn't he couldn't go up there but he knew what was wrong with the system. He told me that my downstairs unit needed about 2lbs of freon and the system upstairs needed 12-13lbs which would cost about $1300. RIDICULOUS!!!

How does one run diagnostic tests on a system without even seeing it? And how does one expect a person to write them a check for 1300 without a diagnostic test? I allowed him to repair the downstairs unit while I went digging for a ladder in my garage. When he came around and saw the ladder all of a sudden he changed and he refused to go up there unless I first paid him $1300 for the freon. I refused. I said I'd call AHS first because he refused to go properly test out the system and wanted to double check on the price per lb.

He then said that the downstairs unit is now working but not at its full capacity unless I pay him directly another $250 for a chemical clean. When I asked why I was paying for that and not the AHS he said because the system doesn't need it. Puzzled... I asked well if the system isn't running at 100% without the chemical wash doesn't that mean that it does need it and AHS should know this was part of the problem and should pay for it. He said no. He cleaned it with water and that should have it work at about 80%. He then told me that when I do call them about the freon price I shouldn't tell them what we talked about. I should let him speak to them first.

I think the real problem was that this man was thief and a scammer. He was too large and could not fit in the attic opening. I called AHS and explained all this to them and they said that he said the work order was completed and closed out. But I told them he never even looked at the other unit. They said he reported that I refused service to that unit. This was a lie! I refused to pay for 13lbs of freon without his diagnostic test. Another thing the unit he did fix never even worked properly. I needed them to return and fix it and look at the upstairs unit. I also wanted a certified tech to return instead of that lazy man they sent to my house.

The next day I called about it and I was told to deal with the AC company directly because they probably won't be able to come out on a weekend. I called the company and left them a message. That Monday I got a call from United Air Temp. I explained all that had been going on. They said they'd send the same guy out. I told them I didn't want that guy back at my house and to send another tech out.

Finally after going back and forth they agreed but only had a very large window on a weekday morning. I asked that they send someone out in the evening or a weekend. Because I didn't have any more leave to take and they had already wasted the one day I had taken leave. The lady said they'd call me back when they had a better schedule.

I then called AHS and asked for another contractor. They said the only way they'd do that was for me to pay another service fee. They said the tech did his job. How is that possible? He flat out refused to go into the attic. I requested to speak to a supervisor and of course no one was available. They now claim that 2 supervisors called me and left me a voice mail... That's another lie. No one has ever called me back. I've been waiting over 5 weeks to have this problem resolved. I've tried to call a dozen times and each time I've had to wait anywhere from 1-3 hrs to get hung up on.

Yesterday I reached my wits end. I called... waited for over an hour to speak to a rep who told me I refused the 60 day warranty and that I owe a service fee that somehow never processed. I asked when they would have someone come to repair the AC and they told me I had to start all over again because too much time had passed.

I requested a supervisor and after a 30, minute wait, I spoke to some lady who refused to give me her name or ID and also refused to transfer me to her supervisor and eventually hung up on me. She was rude and basically called me a liar. She said they have to take the word of the technicians over those of the homeowner. She went on again about me refusing to pay for the AC inspection. I tried to explain what happened and she just would not listen. She clearly had her mind made up on me being stupid and a liar. I once again asked her for her name and told her I would report her company and their affiliates and she hung up on me. I called back and was on hold for 2hrs!!! I spoke to another gentleman who basically gave me the same runaround and said that he'd have his manager call me and patched me to his voice mail.

This is the worst company on this planet. They lie about the service they provide and they send untrained people to people's homes and never own up to their crap. What planet do we live on that a person expects payment in hand for a made-up diag. If there was a leak and as a result the freon has leaked out... shouldn't he fix the leak first? When I questioned him about this and expressed my concern he said that I'm refusing his service. When I provided the ladder he refused to go up to the attic claiming that was a waste of his time. The real problem is that he knew he was too large and couldn't fit in the attic opening and counted on me not having a ladder.

They wanted to charge us a whole lot more for the work that they were going to do than what was really necessary so we were able to ask American Home Shield for a second opinion. They sent a second person to discuss it with us and assess the situation. Even though it came back with the same results as the first company, they gave us the option of what they call "Cash-in-lieu" and it enabled us to get our own contractor which I was happy with. In the end, they disagreed with the contractor that I hired. Other than that, the process was successful and I was very satisfied with how it was handled. They decided that they were going to pay up to a certain amount to get the heat pump fixed. Once I get it repaired, I'll send the invoice and they will send me the repayment. Overall, it's been a good experience.

Yesterday makes the sixth time over a period of several years that we have tried to use our American Home Shield policy. Two of our claims were totally rejected. Two of our claims required an American Home Shield representative (referred by our realtor) intervening on our behalf before approval was finally received. On the other two claims, we were sent technicians who did not know anything about the appliance requiring service (today the appliance was a tankless hot water heater). We therefore were forced to seek and pay for service outside AHS. YESTERDAY, AHS SAID WE DID NOT PERFORM MAINTENANCE AND WOULD NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING ELSE.

Today, we received a second opinion who said the problem could be the gas control. We will now call Rheem to speak with their technician to determine a solution. Even when we called AHS to complain, we got nowhere. Completing their survey and asking for a call to try and resolve the problem brought NOTHING! Our experience with AHS is that they are most willing to accept our money but are not willing to pay out. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. I had a dryer that needed repair and American Home Shield sent out a serviceman. I paid the service fee and it was repaired satisfactorily. The contractor had to come out a second time because they had to order a part. It was rescheduled within a week. The dryer is drying the clothes now. But I noticed that when I had the dryer on, the small laundry room was getting hotter than how it was working previous to the repair. Maybe because that part improved the performance. It felt like a sauna in there and I had to open the door. It’s going to increase my air conditioning bill and I was quite concerned like they repaired it too well and it might explode.

I was a little bit disappointed with one service call. I wanted to downgrade my plan and I ended up doing it, which was fine, but I didn’t realize that when I downgraded it, it didn’t include plumbing. I wasn’t looking for the major systems in the house to be covered, but when I downgraded it, it only included the appliances and not any plumbing issues. Since then, I had a little bit of a plumbing issue. Then when I called to put in that service call, I was told that it didn’t cover it, which was disappointing to me because I’ve had to hire someone on my own when I’m paying for this plan. I’ve had the toilets serviced before and AHS said I won’t able to add back on that service until the anniversary date. Other than that, my experience has been average overall.

When my A/C was not cooling the house, I submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. Their reps were nice and always friendly on the phone but at this time of the year, everybody’s A/C is messed up and it’s a pain to get a hold of anyone at AHS. But it wasn't anybody's fault. It’s the way the system is. Initially, the technician who came out in June was supposed to be dispatched but AHS found out that he's on vacation. They transferred my claim to some other company and they told the tech but didn’t notify me about it. I called in and got that information but I never heard from that company until on a Sunday night. I was also a little confused on who was supposed to come out because I called AHS before and they said that normally, they have to give the contractors 48 hours to respond before they can cancel the work order from that company.

I told AHS that since the gentleman that was supposed to come out originally was back on vacation, it’s fine with me if he’ll fix the A/C. And that’s what took place. The gentleman came out, diagnosed the problem, and contacted American Home Shield. He said that the piece would be ordered and when he gets it, he will bring it out and replace it. I like AHS but they’re unorganized and everybody's not on the same page. It's like going to a doctor and getting different answers from different people. It may save money having AHS in the long run but it's not going to save time.

We had 18 wonderful years with American Home Shield, but the last 30 days with them was the worst. I had an issue with my stove and the electric panel. The request for service went perfectly well. I put the call and waited two days for the old repair guy to come here and he determined it was electrical. Then I waited another two days for the electrician to come in - the electrician came July 3rd. It’s not American Home Shield’s fault, though. He did not fix the electrical problem and he even broke my ceramic top. I immediately called American Home Shield and explained the situation and they took a note of everything. I also called the electric company and told them what the technician had done. American Home Shield said they will call on Wednesday because Tuesday was July 4th.

In almost 20 years that I’ve been with American Home Shield, it was the first time that I called Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I was on hold for about 45 minutes at a time. We never could get through. But, ironically, I got through to sales. So if I wanted to buy an American Home Shield warranty or if I was a real estate agent trying to buy warranty for my client, I can get through. But of course, the sales department can't do anything. I found the phone number of corporate on the internet on Sunday. I called and left a message about my situation, that I've been calling for five days, and that I was being on hold forever. On Tuesday, I got a callback.

I didn't want to call back the electrician company when they already knew that the technician had broken my ceramic top without seeing what American Home Shield had done on this week. The rep from corporate told me that she had called the electric company already and that they never called her back. The corporate lady was nice. I told her to wait for another two days. However, I didn’t get a callback. I tried to call American Home Shield again and I got on hold. I didn’t talk to a live person. American Home Shield has just one phone number to call. They do not have email so you cannot send a message. All you can do is request service.

Finally, the rep called me back and told me that the electric company claimed that they have never been to my home. I said that’s ridiculous. So, I resolved my issue with the electric company. They sent what they call an expert because they were trying to blame the American Home Shield installer that it was his fault. He installed my stove wrong. So, I do not have my stove yet. I have heard from the expert who came here that the electric company will pay for my stove top. But I got an email that my issue was resolved. I could not reply and say, "No, it was not" because it's a no-reply email. Also today, I was trying to locate the phone number of the expert. I can't call American Home Shield.

I'll call tomorrow again during business hours to ask the electric company when are they going to pay for the stove. They have to come replace my ceramic top. Next Friday, it's already a month. My barbecue grill is charcoal only and I can't eat Chinese food anymore. I am not happy with American Home Shield because they were incompetent in a sense that the lack of answers to their customers is bad business. Especially if sales answers but customer service doesn't. I strongly suggest that they should have a send a message or an email feature.
