We had a plumbing issue so we submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone. It took so long for AHS to get to us, but the contractors they sent out were good and answered all the questions we had. Things have been great since the repair. And overall, we had a good experience with AHS.

American Home Shield has saved us money because there’s a lot of the stuff we’ve had done since we’ve had the home warranty and it definitely helped us out. We’ve had a couple issues recently and one we’re still trying to deal with. We had a leak underneath our sink and they had to replace the pipe ‘cause it was an old iron pipe that was rusted through and it was leaking. It got the drywall on the back of it and the back of the underneath the sink wet and they had to pull that out in order to replace the whole pipe.
I’ve done some of the claims online, but this one was tied to the other and we were told that we should not have to pay the service fee, and so we had to go through a different way. There’s no other way to communicate with them except to put in a service request, which charges you another fee. It’d be easier if we had another separate e-mail we could contact them about something like that or another number. But, when my husband asked about a different contact information, they didn’t have any to give him.
We’ve had to try to contact AHS to replace the drywall and we’ve had to wait on the phone to reach them. We’ve tried to call and had to wait for an hour or more for them to get on there and then we were told, “Oh, we’ll call you back.” It’s taking days to get a callback or we’ll have to call back and we’re not too happy with that right now. Other than that, the reps from AHS have been pleasant and we haven’t had any issues with them. It’s the wait time mainly but I know that there’s a lot going on too ‘cause they said something about all the hurricane and I understand that going on.
We tried to call the plumbing company. They said, “Oh, no. You have to call them.” We called. We had to wait and then they were like, “Well, we have to find out because they didn’t say anything about this.” They had to go back to have the plumber come back out and measure and call them back and this has been for a few weeks we’ve had to deal with this issue. Now they don’t have anyone in the area that can do the drywall for us so they told us we need to find someone and we have to pay them and then they will reimburse us.

I was waiting on the phone forever when I submitted a claim with AHS for my air-conditioning unit. It took two weeks for them to get somebody out here to fix it and I almost got an air problem for about two months. Also, the contractors came here six times to fix it. When they first came out, they said they needed to go back to American Home Shield to get them to approve the repair. When they came back to fix it, something else was going on and they said they had to get AHS to approve that too. My AC is finally working now but not 100% and my room is not that cool like before.
In the past, AHS has been pretty good. I used to call them and they sent somebody out who fixed things right up. But it was different with my last claim and this is the second time I had to get my air-conditioning fixed. Last year, the same thing happened. I had to get the same service where they had to get Freon to put in there.

We love American Home Shield and we've been with them since 2007. They take care of us and give us peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong with the house, they're there. So far, we have filed claims for a microwave oven that acted weird a few years ago, a furnace problem, and water heater issues five years ago, and all of them were very positive experiences. Recently, our air conditioner had gone out so I submitted a claim with AHS online. It was simple to do. I just go to their website and click the right button. A technician was sent out to the house within 24 hours and he was very professional and courteous. He was also very respectful to me, my house, and my family. He knew what he was doing and the repair was perfect. He took the air conditioner out and showed it to me so I could exactly know what he had done. He was topnotch and it didn’t take long for him to fix the problem.
Dale,
We are so glad to hear how your expectations with friendly and professional service were met regarding your a/c and previous service request. American Home Shield takes pride in providing great customer service, especially in a timely manner. My hot water tank wasn't getting hot and it kept breaking the circuit where to click on and off. I called it in with AHS and they came out the next day and were able to get another hot water tank within 48 hours. The contractor was very knowledgeable with everything that he was doing. He let us know that we caught the problem just in time because it was on the verge of bursting, where it would have caused more damage than what we had originally. He was explaining things and answered all my questions because I was clueless on the way the new hot water tank looked than the one I had. He brought it to my attention that over the years the models had changed. He even called back to check on everything. It was an excellent experience overall. I would definitely keep American Home Shield on my team and try to recruit other people to come aboard because the service is great.

We filed an online claim with American Home Shield for our air conditioner but I didn’t hear back from anyone until I received a call from them while I was at work. I couldn’t answer but they left a callback number. So I called back and was on hold for 45 minutes before I spoke with anyone then gave them the information. I was told they will call me back to tell me who they got. I haven’t heard from them so I called again that afternoon. This time, I was on hold for 2 hours only to be told that they couldn’t find someone to service my air conditioner and I will have to look for somebody to service it. I was being transferred to another department when the call got disconnected. When I called back, the wait time is more than 1 hour so I just waited until the next morning to talk to them.
I was on hold again for 45 minutes before I was able to talk to someone. They said, "We're still trying to find someone. We'll call you back within the next few hours and let you know." They finally called back and said, "We can't find anyone, so we have a program where you can find someone and go through the process of pre-approval. And then, you pay the bill, and we'll reimburse you. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in?" We have no choice. Now, I'm trying to find someone to come to my house to fix the air conditioner and it's been five days without air conditioning. And I'm very unhappy about paying the monthly fee and getting crap service. I'm certainly not going to recommend them to anyone. It’s disappointing and irritating.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since December 2016. They have great coverage, but just enough to be inconvenient and the price of the service call is affordable. However, AHS only provides band-aid fixes. They do not ensure long-lasting repairs. My most recent claim with them was for my HVAC unit. It’s been a problem ever since we bought the house and this most recent service call on it makes the fourth since December. Different technicians had come out to service it, but we've all gone through American Home Shield. The last contractor who came was wonderful and since the repair, the unit has been exemplary.

We’re new homeowners and we've had American Home Shield for a month. We had our water heater replaced and it was very easy to file a claim online. The contractor was a very friendly and approachable person, even humorous at times and it was the nicest part of the whole thing. As far as I can tell, everything about the repair seems good. All in all, American Home Shield is freaking reliable.

For my last two calls, I've used the automated calling service and that’s super easy. I usually filed my claims by automated services and online because it's difficult to get a person. AHS calls within 24 hours, but they come out within one to five days. The contractor explained everything, even prior to telling me what he was going to do and what he was going to submit. Even after he came back, he explained everything and showed me the parts. He was good and very clear. Whoever the contractor that they contract with, they're very knowledgeable. They're clear on what they're doing and they tell me prior to and after what they’ve done. They keep going up on my yearly payments, but that’s to be expected. Otherwise, I'm fine with them. They're an excellent company to work with all the way around.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my refrigerator door that was rotted out on one side. It got rust on the door and water coming out of it was not clean. It needed to be replaced but AHS will only replace the door. It took me a long time to submit a claim. They don’t answer the phone. I hold at an average of 40 minutes. If they call, they transfer me to somebody who might be the wrong person or from the wrong department. They even may not pick up the phone and then I have to hang up and call back and wait for another 40 minutes. If I don’t get it online, I won’t get anybody. The contractors sent by AHS came and said what they needed to say, just like the man who came out for the refrigerator. He knew that it needed to be replaced. But he can’t tell me that because he needed to hear what AHS was going to do and which was what he was going to report to me.
For someone who doesn’t have anybody who could repair stuff, having AHS gives me a fair chance of getting ripped off because if I do the contract in the street, I wouldn't know know anything about it and I can't reach back to them. But I have been with American Home Shield since 2006 and I can pay for a new refrigerator with all the money I paid them. As soon as I can, I’m going to discontinue with AHS. I’m done with them.

American Home Shield sent a company that was not up to standards to repair our air conditioning. The repairs they did were completely the opposite of what would be to my satisfaction. I had to call American Home Shield back multiple times and notify them of our dissatisfaction. But the regular reps that I talked to did not listen to me. I kept on telling them that we live in Florida where it's very hot, we don’t have AC and that the repairs that were done here were not adequate. I had to escalate the matter to the president's office and one of the president’s assistants answered, their people started listening to us.
Finally, they called another company out, which came and repaired the AC the way it was supposed to be repaired. Corrections had to be made and parts needed to be replaced to make the AC work efficiently again. AHS also reimbursed us a little bit of cash for some Freon that was used in the repair. The whole ordeal took three weeks. I've had three homes with AHS which spanned a timeframe of 25 years, but I have moved my account with someone else because I'm not prepared to go through what I experienced again. I’m not recommending them to anyone either. I used to recommend them to everyone and I was very satisfied with them until this experience happened.

There were multiple appliances on my work order and when the agent set up one call for one company, they set up for one appliance. When the company came out, they said they didn't get the other two appliances, so they couldn't work on them and I had to call American Home Shield back. I submitted a claim for a microwave and it's not clear on my policy that the countertop or the built-in is covered. Since I had a countertop unit, the company recorded it as a countertop and AHS did not approve it for repair. On the same work order, I also had two refrigerators that needed to have ice makers repaired and the disappointing thing is I called in and stayed a long time because when I book a service trade online, I can't specify the number of units, the issue or anything else.
If there was a problem with my claim, the dispatch person should have told me that upfront, but American Home Shield approved the work and the contractor came out and fixed the two ice makers successfully. However, AHS called and said that I have a $157 bill due for payment on one of the ice makers. It's been very frustrating for both contractors and homeowners. The service provider said it took AHS too long to respond to their question and there aren't any other means other than to call them. When I sent an email through their customer support line, no one ever responded and every time I call, it takes an hour and a half to two hours. Plus, one call is insufficient because the documentation isn't thoroughly done and I have to call back multiple times for the same issue. I had to call in three times to make sure AHS knew that the microwave was being fixed and two refrigerators have been fixed.
I've been complaining to American Home Shield about their services. I paid double on our policy because the size of our home means that we have two kitchens and I'm having so many problems with AHS. They're charging me stuff that should not be charged for coverage and I have to dispute with them all the time. It's really a stupid company, and that's how bad it is. I came to the point where I can't recommend them or where I want to sue them for negligence. They have the worst system, customer service and followup and they are incompetent. As an owner or contractor, I need to have this policy for my homes so that I can sell it to customers. I'll start looking for other home warranty companies.
Mr. Nguyen,
Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention at American Home Shield. We hate to hear that your overall AHS experience was less than satisfactory. We would appreciate the opportunity to help you! A social media specialist will follow-up with you directly to further assist soon. Thanks!

Took me 2 hours to reach somebody, and when got them they just admit they do not know better and no way to talk to their manager or somebody else. No possibility to discuss and repair if you do not agree with their decision. In my case a previous service done through Home Shield (by previous homeowner), did not tie correctly one of the taps (I find out this later on) and AC were losing gas. When I called for service same company send a tech. They deemed that AC has to be replace and try to sell me a new AC, and Home Shield waive all their responsibility as pre existing condition, refusing to cover the service. So I called another AC repair for second opinion, in just few min. they find the leak at the tap near to compressor, just tie it (I was watching him during leak detection and repair) and filled the gas, and everything start working.
Mr. Mohammad,
We are glad to hear that you have an operable a/c unit. We will be reaching out to you to seek additional feedback in regards to your experience and answer any questions you may have about coverage. Thanks.

I was very satisfied with the contractor that AHS sent for my AC repair. They were very quick and knowledgeable. They also explained what they were going to do, everything that they were doing, and what they did. Since then, the AC’s working fine. I had some leaking coming through my vent before, and it's not happening anymore. I've been with AHS for 10 years now and I'm glad that I have them.

The ice dispenser in my refrigerator wasn't working, so I filed a claim with AHS online. The tech called within two hours and he was here the next day. He came in and fixed it and it was very smooth. We also had a faulty furnace, so we had a new furnace installed. This time, it was a different contractor who took the job. It took a little longer because he is a one-man operation. It took close to two weeks before we had service done on it. That process could have been a little quicker in my estimation, but once we're in contact with him, he did an excellent job. AHS provides good service overall. I’ve been with them for two months and I’m very happy with it so far.

We recently filed a claim with American Home Shield a month ago and it went pretty good. The contractors they sent were great. The bad side of it was we’d requested a plumber and we finally just got so pissed off with American Home Shield not sending somebody out that we just got screwed and we paid for that out of pocket ourselves. Though AHS somebody, they wouldn't respond. Our overall experience would have been better if they just had more reliable contractors working for them.
Mr. Nihiser,
We are delighted to hear that your most recent experience with American Home Shield was good. It sounds like you didn't have the same experience for your plumbing work order in May. We have our lake house insured with American Home Shield for appliances and the experience has been frustrating, time-consuming, terrible customer service. If I call in a claim, I wait a minimum of an hour to talk to an agent. They make us wait and it's intentional. I usually just leave them on the speakerphone and they always have the same recording saying they have unusual call volume and it has been that way for the last two years. They leave the same recording on and try to wear people out to the point where if I was not determined as I was, I would never make a claim. I plan on 5 hours from start to finish for every claim. Even though I can spend many hours, there tends to be some type of resolution once I get in and work through the system.
There have been times where American Home Shield performed as expected. But most of the time it's a service issue where it comes from the customer service department or part of their protocol that has the hoops. They do not make it easy and they do not want people to make a claim. There are other times that they've been fair. But their customer service stinks because of the long wait, the response, failing to call back when they're supposed to, and that people fail to show up when they're dispatched.
I have complained before about them and all they said was, "Gee. I'm so sorry." They claimed it was because of a wave of calls that come in. And recently, they say it's because they have had a huge number of people that are affected by hurricane Harvey, even though a lot of the people don't even have houses left. But if people would call their customer service number, I guarantee that they'll wait a minimum of an hour to talk to a person. I know other people that had the same problems.
Then if I go online and start to request, AHS randomly assigns a contractor. I can't designate even a known good contractor in our area that's part of their group. People have to randomly take who AHS assigns. It's Sears on a rotational basis and AHS claims that it's because they're up in the queue. But I'm suspicious and maybe it's some agreement between the two of them. Sears' appliance division is terrible and they overcharge for parts and for the service calls.
For our last claim, AHS sent two individuals out. One was Sears, which we had cancelled the service when we found out they were coming, and the other was the appliance company that we've dealt with for the last two years who does a good job. We ended up with two service call bills and when I called to complain, they said they didn't know how it happened and then tried to say it was for a different appliance. We've had issues on more than one occasion where they sent multiple contractors out, and then tried to charge us multiple times for two contractors for the same appliance repair. Also, we've had appliance issues where they guarantee the replacement of the appliance as the part can't be found or due to the age. And we've had several experiences where even though the appliance was only eight years old, they couldn't find the part and we ended up settling for a used part put into the unit, which may or may not last a long time.
Michael,
Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your concerns. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your overall experience. A social media specialist will follow-up with you as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience.

The recent claim I had was disastrous. I was without air for 12 days and I ended up buying an air conditioning unit. I called in and made a claim and American Home Shield sent out Air Time. They came out and got the air-conditioning working. 31 days later the air stopped working. I contacted them and I was put on hold for a long time. I finally got a hold of them and they sent another company. The guy came out and while the unit was frozen, he told me that there was nothing he can do now. He left and didn’t say when he was coming back. We found out that the unit was a block of ice that melted all over my floor. I had to call them back and I didn't want this original company back so they gave me a new company, United Air.
United Air came out and the guy said there was a problem from whatever the previous guy has done. He said we needed a part. I am Facebooking them because it seems when I reply to them in Facebook they don't like that so they're more inclined to respond. Each day I would go and remind them of the days passed and I would be told, "Well, there's nothing we can do." They’ve ordered the part and they would not pay for the expedited service. I was told that was not part of their agreement. I waited five days. It happened on a Friday and the guy said we'd have to order the part at 1:30. He went in and out of his car because the house was now measuring 90 degrees. I couldn't stay in the house and I had to move with my dog to my son's house. I had to make arrangements to travel back and forth to work from my son's house.
Called them Monday morning to find out what the status was on the part. They couldn't order the part on Friday at 1:30 and it would have to wait till Monday to be delivered. Again, no air. American Home Shield would get an update from me daily. I found a nice little Facebook page called "I hate American Home Shield." I got the number of a local rep and called her and she suggested getting an air conditioning unit. Her name was Teri and she told me to put the unit in one window and just stay in that room. My unit is in my bedroom with the leakage coming out of the unit because there was a crack in the pipe under the floor which American Home Shield would not cover. The water had been leaking from behind there to the point where the base boards peeled away from the wall. I was told this was secondary damage that it's not covered.
It took long for the part to come in but American Home Shield wouldn't pay for that expedited part. The guy from United Air came and told me to put Freon in there. American Home Shield pays $10 a pound. The rate for Freon for that machine was $150 a pound and I had to put three pounds in there. So with their nice little $50 discount, I had to pay $420. The latest call from American Home Shield was that I owe them $75 service charge which needless to say I did not pay. They called and said looking into their records, I would be responsible for the $75. Now they have not returned that call to ask where the payment is. I take it they got the message that they're not getting the $75.
I was told they would not replace the unit and the tech that came out said the unit is 15 years old. The whole point of keeping American Home Shield the last 11 years paying the annual fee is that when something like this would happen, I will be covered. As long as the unit can continue to be band-aided, they would not pay for the new unit. What ended up happening was I had to purchase a brand new air conditioning unit that they would not cover. Also, their customer service was horrendous. It's an oxymoron to call it customer service. Their phone calls were put on hold for 25 to 50 minutes. I would hate for anyone else to purchase a home warranty from them. I would not recommend them to anyone.

I saved up a number of plumbing stuff before I called AHS. I had a drain and three faucets that were being a problem. I also had a serious leak in a separate pipe. Submitting a claim has not been easy. I spoke to representatives and they’re good. The contractor came out quickly in the instance of the emergency pipe leak, but they missed site and then caused a lot of problems. They finally came and fix it, but things would’ve been a lot better if they got it right the first time. But the company is not user-friendly at all. They don’t want me to talk to anybody, request anything and communicate with me.
The company often told me that they won’t serve me anymore because I am persistent and annoying to them on the phone. They’re kicking me out and won’t let me renew my contract because I used them. I waited long enough on the phone over months, got them to fork out $1,000 for my broken refrigerator and they wanted me to go away. In general, American Home Shield is not easy to deal with and it’s impossible to get people on the phone. However, I’m not exactly familiar with the process of what they do cover and if something like that has to be completely replaced. I’m still a bit foggy about that. From a general perspective, my understanding was that if something breaks and it’s not fixable then they would replace them and in my case, they weren't going to cover very much of it. I'm not happy with American Home Shield and I have been trying to get in touch with them. My shower was leaking and every time I flush the toilet, the shower would drip. It's a 30-minute wait time to talk to somebody. Nobody picks the phone up. I get emails from them about their service being complete and I respond by saying, “Call me at this number” but no one calls. The contractor did fix the leak adequately, but I would like somebody to call me so I can get my wall repaired. This is the first time I submitted a claim which I did online. I called American Home Shield for a repeat visit for my washing machine. The person that I talked to and the contractor were excellent. However, the contractor hasn’t fixed it yet. He said he needed to order a part so he's got to come back out. I also had an AC unit repaired last year. They didn't replace the whole unit. They just replaced the compressor. So, now, I got a new compressor in there with the other parts. The actual unit is old and the compressor is the most expensive piece which didn’t really make a lot of sense to me. And then, the compressor went out again this year and there was only a year warranty on it. So now, I'm pretty much back where I started. I got to seek American Home Shield's approval to order a new AC unit before it gets hot again rather than to replace the compressor again. But the overall experience with AHS has been pretty good.

American Home Shield is not as responsive as they used to be. You have to hold a very long time even when you call back. There was one night that I held for over two hours. And then when I finally got somebody, they hung up. So, then I asked the rep the next day if that call was logged and she said it wasn’t. And then they encourage you to use the website, but it doesn’t explain every issue, so you still have to end up calling for a customer service rep.
I wish they would answer the phone a little faster and that the website would be a little more intuitive. Also, communication is hard on the front-end, but the contractors are fine. With that, they could train the agents. Even if they look up the problem, it takes them about 20 minutes to get back on the phone. And it's not like they're looking for a ticket or the next available vendor. They're just overwhelmed with phone calls. But they are very friendly once I get a hold of them.

We had a plumber come out and fix some faucet under the sink. He came when he said he would and he did what he needed to. The faucet has been good since the repair. That was the first time we've had any experience with American Home Shield and it was very positive. American Home Shield was efficient, reliable and cost-effective. I would certainly recommend them to others.

We had a microwave incident and there’s this one company that AHS used and I tried to get AHS not to send that guy because he was supposed to repair my microwave but he never came and finished putting in the parts for the microwave. And the battle went on for over two years. Finally, I got to close it in and I bought a new microwave. They sent another company that finished the repair. My dishwasher was the same way, so I finally bought a dishwasher. I’ve also had work done on my air conditioner and had my washing machine replaced. The latest incident was I had a sink garbage disposal that was not working properly and a company came in and said it needed to be replaced. They replaced it, and they also fixed a leaky faucet, which was terrific.
However less than a month later, the disposal was not working correctly. I called AHS and the company came back out. They said that it was not working and that American Home Shield authorized them, to replace it again even though everybody knew that it was not working correctly. Apparently there were too many peels in it. It’s a garbage disposal and it’s supposed to have them, so if it’s less than a month since it was installed and it’s not working correctly, then it would seem like it could be replaced again because they are giving faulty equipment. But when the person from AHS called and when I told her what happened, she said it didn't make sense. She called me back and said they won't replace it. The contractor said AHS won't pay for it, but if I get the contractor to fix it without the AHS coverage, it’s gonna cost $500. I said yes.
When I explained this to my husband, he said that’s insane because many years ago, we paid $100 for the disposal and then $80 for the plumber to replace it. Whatever the charge back system that American Home Shield is using, apparently it’s making these folks overcharge or try to make up what they have to charge. I'm paying AHS to help me not have ridiculous costs, not to have contractors who are nickeling and dimeing me so that they can make up for whatever system AHS is using. I know somebody else who has AHS as well and her air conditioner was out altogether and the unit replacement that the AHS contractor gave her was $500 more than somebody else she got.
AHS uses this veiled threat of not covering the issue and I'll have to work with the folks who put it in, and these folks are giving me a better price and a guarantee. My other issue is how long I have to fight with AHS about my system and equipment. Once it’s worn out, it’s worn out. If they send a repair guy five times to fix my dishwasher and it’s still not fixed, there comes a point where it’s over even if the people keep saying it’s just terrible. But I've been with AHS for several years and the contractors have always been wonderful and professional. They've done really good work, even the plumbing guy. It was just one crazy incident about the garbage disposal, but everything else he did was wonderful. The air conditioning guy was great and the guy from the washer and dryer was really interesting. I've had good experiences and bad with AHS. The good is good and the bad is horrible.

When I first called AHS, they sent out a company and it took a week for them to get here. The girl that did it, spent 10 minutes fixing or putting some capacitor on the unit. That didn’t fix it. I called again and it was another week before another guy came out and he was a Lennox salesman. He was trying to sell me a new unit for $8000 and I said that I’ll think about it. I’m a 100% disabled veteran on social security and VA money, and I’m taking care of three grandkids. So, he said that he’ll have his secretary call me with a plan but he never did. I called AHS back and told them that they still haven’t fixed my AC and it’s been three weeks now. So, they sent a guy out and he knew what he was doing. He fixed the air conditioner. It was working good for a week and then it just quit. It started making this squeaking and howling sound on the unit outside.
So, I called American Home Shield again and for the fourth time, somebody came out. There are two guys who came out from a different company. They said that the problem is I have a three-ton unit inside and a two-and-a-half-ton compressor outside. The compressor is working twice as hard than it should be. If it was reversed and we had a three-ton compressor outside, a two-and-a-half-ton unit inside, there would be no problem. With the law changing in 2020, if we go ahead and put the new type of freon in there, it would be counterproductive because come 2020, they’d have to change it anyway.
So, they asked what kind of credit I have. It was pretty good and so they called and I was approved through my Wells Fargo, American Home Shield. They come in here with the new unit which was three times as big as the one that was outside. They took the old one out, put the new one in, hooked everything up, started the unit up, and you can immediately feel the difference in the temperature. It wasn’t like any and it wasn’t suffering. It was pumping nice, cool, air.
The lady from AHS who took care of me was absolutely professional, kind and knowledgeable at what she was doing. They didn’t make me feel like I was just paying money out to get some half service. They were genuinely concerned. I’ve been with AHS for a long time. I was paying $40 a month for a $40 service call, then it went to $50 and now it’s $75. They also fixed my microwave, electricity, plumbing, replaced my refrigerator, replaced my washer two times. I have nothing but praise for American Home Shield. It’s cost-effective to keep my house running smooth. I couldn’t do it by myself, without their help. I’m very pleased. At first, it was difficult but they resolved the problem very professionally.

I'm having a great difficulty reaching and talking to somebody from American Home Shield. I wanted to ask them what coverage do I have towards a replacement of a new unit. I have sent emails to them and sent a letter to their main office in Memphis, Tennessee, but I got no response. I also couldn’t talk to a live person. When I called, I was put on hold for 40 minutes. I've done this at least about five times and I've given up.
I signed up for an annual contract with American Home Shield. It covers appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, washer, dryers, and etc. I haven’t had problems with any of those except for the air conditioning in the upstairs area. I called American Home Shield when the problem started. They said they would send a representative out and he would give me a call before coming. He never called, so I contacted American Home Shield and they assigned me another service contractor.
The second contractor came and did a nice job. They were a very reputable family-run firm. They were professional and courteous too. I was pleased with their response and their knowledge of how to correct the situation. The air conditioning unit worked for about eight months before I got a problem with it again. I called American Home Shield and they sent the second contractor out. Apparently, there was Freon leakage. They took care of that and the air conditioning worked fine again. But I’m concerned that in the long run we might need to replace the unit because of its age, that’s why I wanted to know about my coverage with American Home Shield.

Everything has to be done online, which I don’t like. But once I get through, the service is good. I needed help with my garage door, and the technician that came was great. However, I’m wondering if he realized that I really needed a door because here it is, a month later, and I have to buy the door. Overall AHS was prompt and even though they couldn't get to me for a couple of days because they were backed up, they told me upfront and I appreciated that.

I turned in a request for a washer to be fixed and AHS was unable to process a request within their timeframe. After several phone calls and 3 days later I only have a appointment schedule for a repair TWO weeks after the initial request. Unacceptable! AHS was able to take, process and deduct my payment for the service fee with NO problem but unable to actually have a contractor here. Every time I call I receive different information from customer service about the same questions. I have gone as far as finding a vendor who does work for AHS but they are unable to find contractor in my area.
Sadly, they are 10 miles away from my home address and refuse to look into this. I will NOT renew my contract with this company. I also requested to speak with the manager and was told that there was not one there. In order for me to speak to one, they had to submit a request via email. I have never heard of anything like this before. I do not have any hopes to hear from them and will continue to keep calling. Thank goodness my contract is almost up!

The most recent claim we had with American Home Shield was about a defect in the air conditioning pump. The AC unit was working but there was a problem with a leak. Apparently, the previous owner of this house had done some work to redirect the drain from one of those machines. They had put a little pump and opened a hole into the pipe that was draining the water out of the house. But water was backing up through that hole and, since the machine is in the attic, a leak was created in the ceiling and came through to the second floor bathroom.
Filing the claim was very easy to do through their online system. But AHS wasn't very clear about their sending a second tech for a second opinion and they didn't tell us that. So, when the second tech showed up, we thought he was from the first company coming in to make the repair, but we found out that he was from a second company. Other than that, the techs were fine and very professional. The first company actually sent a text message saying they were on their way and gave me an estimate on when they were going to be here. The second tech said he was coming on Wednesday morning and he showed up as he had said, and that was very good.
When the tech came in for the repair, he showed us what he was going to do and how he was going to do it, and he was very thorough about that. I was in a conference call for work so I couldn't go up to the attic with him, but he took a picture and showed me what he had done to fix the leakage. But he said that he had only put a temporary fix on the problem. We were to have the situation inspected and it would not pass inspection.
He said that the source of the problem is that the pipes were clogged and he was going to leave the claim open with AHS. What we want to do with AHS now is pursue the next step which would be for somebody to come and unclog those pipes, but I haven't heard about that from them. Nevertheless, they've been very good overall, although the communication process could be better. They're hard to get a hold of and there are usually very long wait times. But once you've talked to somebody, they're quick to take action and do something about the problem.

Our microwave went out. I submitted the claim online and the process went pretty smoothly. There was a little bit of a problem with the installation though. I recently had some kitchen work done and got some backsplash retiled. The vendor was gonna put the microwave in and backsplash tile wasn’t shaved down enough to fit the microwave. They said we could just install it ourselves or call back and they would come back out and do it. We had to bring the tile guys back out to shave the tile down and the vendor eventually came back and it all worked out.
I used to be pretty prompt about getting stuff done and it’s pretty easy through the website. Even though the cost for me is not necessarily justifiable, I have peace of mind. Being able to just call and have the problem taken care of is nice. So, American Home Shield is a good service and I’m keeping them every year. I would recommend them. They’ve taken care of all my stuff and they’ve done what they advertised they would do.

Our air conditioner quit working so we called in. When I was trying to call in my air conditioner problem in the terrible heat, I had to be on hold for one hour and 24 minutes. I didn’t give up because we needed to get an air conditioner. The next day, AHS expedited it. They got somebody out on a Thursday. They determined we either had to have a new compressor or a whole new unit. Either way, we’re going to have to pay quite a bit of money. If we got the compressor, we had to pay about $400 for Freon. If we got the new unit and paid to get the old unit taken away.
Friday, midday, they called to say we were going to be getting a compressor. However, it’s going to take about ten days to get the new compressor. I said my husband has had a quadruple bypass and really can’t deal with heat. We’re in Wichita, Kansas where it’s very hot but no sympathy for that. We still have not heard or seen the new compressor.
The previous claim we had was on the hot water tank. I had paid my $75 directly to the company and they did not hand it over to American Home Shield. I had proof that I paid it but they still debited it out of my account. Other than that the companies that they have sent out all seemed to be pretty good and took care of what needed to be taken care of. But American Home Shield has been very uncaring about our situation.

We’ve been with American Home Shield since July and had a couple of claims filed online recently. One was for our AC. Any time the temperature got over 90 degrees, the AC would trip the breaker. American Home Shield sent someone out, and they tried to fix something in the AC but it ended up not fixing the problem. So they had to come out again and reviewed it real quick. They said that it will have to go to an electrician to verify some further things because it is not the AC unit itself that's tripping. The electric people are coming out on Monday. So, it's been pretty quick turnaround for anything. I have really liked the contractors AHS sent so far. And my overall experience has all been pretty good.

The freezer fan of my refrigerator was making noise and there was ice at the back of it. I filed a claim with AHS online and didn’t have any difficulties. The contractor was great. My only complaint was my refrigerator was beeping and he said that the beeping would stop as soon as the freezer came up to temperature. But it beeped for several hours and didn’t stop. But as soon as I called and said it was still beeping, the tech came out immediately and played with it a little more to make sure it stopped beeping. Since then, it’s been fine.
A previous claim I had with them was on my stove and it was the third time that the same thing had happened. The first time that it happened, the contractor said that it was a design flaw in this stove and didn't even know if he could get the part. The second time it happened, I was told the same thing but they found the part. The third time, they still went after the part. The part was more expensive and was right on the borderline of replacing my stove.
This was over the course of three years that this problem happened. The third time it happened was this year and it took three times of them coming out, doing different things and trying to fix it. The error would only happen when the oven first heated up so after they did a repair, they couldn’t check to see if the repair had done anything. I had to wait until the stove cooled completely down and I turned it back on again. But it was something similar from the previous two years and they were being told that it’s a design flaw in the stove. Knowing that it was going to continue happening, I was surprised that American Home Shield had a repair person come up three or four times, trying to find something else wrong with it before they finally agreed to replace the stove. That was a waste of time, money and frustration.

We recently submitted a claim online with American Home Shield due to a water leak that was causing damage. Getting a claim service was easy, what’s hard was getting it expedited. When I talked to the plumber, he couldn't come in 24 hours. But he could come if we expedited it through American Home Shield. That would mean I’d have to call. And unfortunately, with American Home Shield, I’d be on hold for about an hour and a half.
About an hour and a half, while I was on hold, the plumber pulled up to my driveway. He already put me on the schedule once I talked to him and just said I needed to contact American Home Shield. So right then, I got through and we got everything situated. The leak was coming from the bathroom on the second floor, we thought that was it. Something was wrong with the tub and he fixed it, then he left. Two hours later, I went back downstairs in the garage and we could see the leak coming again. So I turned off the water, contacted him and he came back again the next day. He then figured out where it was and got it set.
My contract with American Home Shield says that they will cover or contract with someone to cover up the walls or put a new drywall on it to fix up the holes made during the plumbing repair. They are to have it in a ready position so I can just paint over it. Now, I still have a few holes in my garage ceiling and a hole in my bathroom. I called AHS back after it was all set and I’m still waiting to hear from them to get everything finalized.

I submitted a claim for my AC with American Home Shield. Everything is automated. So, as soon as I called, they assigned a vendor and then, they called me and fixed an appointment. The contractors, they don’t interact much. They detect the problem and take it from there. The most recent issue was for the AC. There was one contractor assigned, he came and fixed it and took some money saying that it won’t be covered. I paid out of pocket. But it was not fixed. I called American Home Shield and they sent another contractor. And, again, the same thing continued. He fixed it and then it didn’t help. So, he had to come back again. I hope it’s fixed today, otherwise, I have to call.
I would like to think American Home Shield has taken care of this AC especially because they assigned different contractors. I wasted a lot of money and it was a lot of trouble. It could’ve been handled with more efficient guys like Sears. AHS is good with certain items like showing guidance but most of the items are not clear looking at the contract. Most of the items may be covered by basic plans, but in the details, we may not know.

Several years back, my water heater busted. It was almost 20 years old and American Home Shield had some people come out. I found out from the tech that American Home Shield actually owns this plumbing company. I was told that the tank wasn’t drained because it had rust coming out of it. I didn’t live here for the last 18 years and when rust starts, it doesn’t stop no matter how much it's drained. That cost me thousands of dollars because the plumber had to expand some tank in it and put the water heater in, all that on my dime 'cause American Home Shield didn't do anything. The lawsuit was brought against American Home Shield and they still came back and denied it.
Then, an element broke, so I called out American Home Shield and they take their fee that I agreed to, but the tech comes out and it takes forever. They put a new element in but in less than a couple of months, it busted again. I then went to a repair service, ordered a new element, put my own element in and saved more money than I would have if I paid my little deductible to them.
Recently, we had a pipe under the concrete break. American Home Shield sent a company out and I got a $2,600 quote to fix the leak, and AHS was only going to pay $500 out of it. The contractor company gave me the option to re-plumb the entire house 'cause there was polybutylene underneath, but that was $5,000. I decided to go ahead and spend the five grand because it's polybutylene, but AHS didn’t pay a dime.
Then there’s the air conditioning contractor. I paid my $35 and the contractor did whatever they needed to do with American Home Shield. In the beginning, they covered everything and then I reduced to the air condition and plumbing. I'm waiting for this 1990 air conditioner to go out and hopefully they'll cover it. Every year, I get a company out to do a service. If American Home Shield clients don't do that every year and if they’re not knowledgeable of that, American Home Shield will say they didn’t maintain it, and AHS won't pay for it. So, I'm maintaining it, paying them extra money, plus I'm paying them for this warranty. They never seem to cover anything. It's been a horrid experience.
The only reason that I'm staying with American Home Shield is that I had paid them for 13 years. The house came with the warranty and we kept AHS thinking that the air conditioning is going to go out. And by not backing out, I’d be able to recoup some of my money back when that air conditioning goes out and AHS covers it. As much money as I pay AHS, I could have put it in the bank, gained interest and have some leftover to pay for that. Overall I would tell others to not ever go with a home warranty company.

The most ahs would offer as to replace my refrigerator was $2800. This was far less than they led me to believe they would pay when I purchased the policy. That said they were able to use their buying power to purchase the GE Monogram fridge that would normally sell for $10k for $5,800 so my net cost was about $3,000. I would now rate them a 3 star.
Original Review: Sept. 6, 2017
We have a GE Monogram refrigerator and it wasn't cooling. AHS sent a technician to work on it then the technician thought they fixed it but it still wasn't cooling the next day. It needed more thorough work than the other guy could do so AHS sent a different crew which was actually GE's repair group itself. But when they came out, they couldn't do it and said they needed parts. They told us they had to order the parts which were going to be shipped to us. We then told them when the box of parts came and we arranged to spend a day at home because it was a long job.
When they came back, they told us there were still missing parts and they had to order the parts again. So now we've wasted three days trying to wait around to get this thing fixed. Then the parts were on backorder for at least three weeks and we've had no refrigerator for at least a month. Every time we called up, they said it’s backordered until Monday, then if when we called Monday, they said it's backordered until Wednesday. When we called Wednesday, they said it's back ordered until Friday.
We're using a GE service person for a GE fridge who's trying to get GE parts and they can't seem to be able to find the parts. So I asked them at what point will they decide that we need a refrigerator if the parts are not available and backordered this much. Even though one day, they theoretically fix the fridge when these parts are available, it's not reasonable for someone to pay $1,000 for insurance and be out of a refrigerator for over a month when they have kids and school. So, we're totally frustrated with them.
It's also so annoying because every time we call, their reps tell us that they care so much about us and that our call is important to them, but it will be over a 30-minute wait. Then we have to wait for 45 minutes to an hour. If we do something else, we have to start all over again. They also said to try the chat option next time because it's quicker. But when I tried to chat, they said I was 8th in line and someone will be with me in 36 minutes. So, even with chatting, I had to wait almost 45 minutes and it's upsetting.
They also place the blame on hurricane Harvey but I've been calling them for a month about this and there was no hurricane the first three weeks or the last week of this problem. Their convenient excuse is now in Houston. But an insurance company should be prepared for something like that and they should get more people. I had my last conversation with them when I waited an hour yesterday and until now, our fridge is not yet fixed. Overall, their reps are nice people and are extremely well-trained in empathy but they suck in terms of service. If there's anything more that we don't want to hear is how much they understand how frustrated we are, but that's all we hear from them and they're very good at that part of the business.

I submitted the claim for the air conditioner online. The original provider we had would not get back with us. But once I contacted American Home Shield, they switched to another provider very quickly. The new one got back to us the very next day and it was very smooth. Whenever I had to change the provider, I called AHS. It was a little different but it was still a pretty simple process. AHS takes care of the hassle like comfortable home ownership.
Bryan,
We are not happy to hear that our original contractor did not follow up as needed; however, we are delighted to know that we made it right very quickly. This morning, I called 'cause our toilet needs repair and the experience in submitting claims is generally fine now. But I had a problem twice before where their little automated system wouldn't accept my credit card. Although they wouldn't bill it until after the service if I wanted, I just had to give the number to start processing the service request and there was some automated glitch in it. I also had to hold for a really long time until I got to a person, but once I did, there was no problem. They've responded quickly and got the service provider organized. It was all scheduled and very seamless. The contractors came when they said they would. They also fixed things and if they didn't fix the whole thing, they would come back and do a follow-up without charging extra. Overall, the warranty has been useful and American Home Shield has been fine by us.

I hate calling American Home Shield. It always takes at least an hour to get them on the phone and sometimes, an hour and a half. It was good when I got someone on the phone though and they sent a technician right away. When I filed a claim for the water heater, someone was sent within 24 hours and the water heater was replaced.
My HVAC experience with them was just pure hell though. A contractor came out right away but he was really in a hurry and he said that I needed a leak test to even get me to file a claim because that was demanded by AHS so I said okay. He went out, opened the garage door, closed it, came back in and charged me $160 plus the $75 totaling $235. He wouldn't let me look for my checkbook so I gave him cash and he was out of the door. I ran after him because I wanted a receipt and he said it's on the counter. I ran back and it was only for $160. By the time I ran back, he was gone.
I called the company immediately and they said the technician was in the field and that they'll take care of it tomorrow but I never heard from them. I called them several times during the week, discussed it with them, and finally discussed it with the office manager. She said they'll send me back my $75. By then, I found out that American Home Shield does not require a leak test. I just had Freon put in there and I told them that. They said that I would get that back too. But she decided because I didn't go with them and I was really nice about it, to subtract the $75 because I didn't have proof that I paid for it.
She subtracted that from the $160 and sent me a check for $65 which didn't even make sense. I called back to discuss it with her and she said they would never charge that much for a leak test and they didn't have to refund me anything. When I asked how much the leak test was, she said $60. I said that it doesn't add up. After a month, she sent me another $20.
Also, I only got $1,600 from AHS even though my unit was 12 years old and it would require a different kind of Freon gas. Everything I read said to replace it but there was no replacing it. AHS was simply trying to replace the part. I have a friend that just did that and it's already not working. So, she had to go through that whole thing again.
I was out of air conditioning for 15 days in the hottest 15 days of the year and it was terrible. I had just moved in and I haven't had anything done. I didn't want to go through that experience again so I worked out the money, got a different contractor and got a new unit because I didn't want to go through that hell again. Otherwise, they'd be paying again and I'd be going through the experience again.
I understand that now that they have suspended this vendor from being a vendor for them but they've never notified me after I talked to them about this. The communication is horrible. I didn't want to call them back because that would mean at least an hour and a half on the phone. They also keep sending me something that says I owe $75 on my account for the service fee which I'd already paid twice to the HVAC company. After holding an hour on the phone to put in my claim for the water heater, they said I have the $75 hold. It wasn't paid at the time of service but I said it was. They said they now have a new policy. That's when I had to call the HVAC company and asked them to release that because they'd already taken that out of my check. So, I paid them twice and so, they did.
In addition, because I knew I wasn't going to deal with that contractor, I asked for a payout and that was on a Tuesday. I had to call back Thursday and Friday to see what was going on and they said I was in the queue. It would take another day or two. I called back Monday and find out that I'm not even in the queue because I had to wait to see what I was going to get for the payout before I could hire somebody else to do the job. So, if they put me in the queu, I could have gotten that probably a week earlier and had air conditioning a week earlier. The people that I was dealing with about that were horrible and incompetent.
My experience with AHS overall has not been good but it's getting better. The girl yesterday was very helpful. But I would never use this company again and would never recommend anybody to use it. If you don't have an HVAC problem, maybe it might be worth it if you still have that kind of time to spend on the phone. The customer service is very cheap. Minimally, they could get some customer service and they can have somebody answer their phones.

I had a few claims with American Home Shield until it finally came to a point that my air conditioner needed to be replaced since the Freon leak kept on coming back. Submitting the claim online was better than calling them, where the minimum hold time was one hour, although the representatives were professional when I spoke to them. With one contractor, I had to put them down for being dishonest, gouging me on prices, and not returning my calls. I told them that I never want to use them again, however, when I submitted another claim, I cannot believe that American Home Shield scheduled the same people to come out even after my complaint. But other than that, the AC is completely replaced. It’s fine now and I was pleased.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the plumbing situation and for some electrical stuff which happened at the same time. For the electrical stuff, my ceiling fan went out and I had problems with my electrical bill but I got that taken care of. Also, my front porch light was starting to mess up and I was told that I could get that repaired. However, somebody called me and told me that I couldn't because it wasn't inside the house which was very disappointing.
I also had problems with the hot water tank. They sent this tech out from Buser Plumbing and I've never heard of him before. He came out and he told them he didn’t see anything so they did a second opinion with Budget Plumbing. They came out and they found the leak. They were telling me before that they couldn’t install a new hot water tank and that I will have to get this pressure regulator put on my water because the pressure was reading over 80. But then, they said that I needed a new water and gas line to heat everything before they would even install and the prices were so astronomical. The contractor said that I have to pay for it and American Home Shield will only cover for another hot water tank.
American Home Shield was really no help at all in that particular incident. They told me that they'll give me the money and I can buy my own hot water tank. But before they give me the money, they said that I have to go get the tank, submit the receipt to them and then they’ll reimburse me. I’m on disability and I don’t have $600 laying all out. I’ve run into two home warranty places and they told me that the price will never change. I need somebody that’s going to be there to help me and not to try to hinder me.
They’ve been okay in the past but when it gets down to something that seriously needs to be done, they bail out. I know a master plumber and he’s been one for 40 years. He told me that he’ll help me and he won’t charge those extravagant prices. But, American Home Shield said that if I got somebody else to do the work and nobody that they recommended, then I would still have to go ahead and they wouldn’t let the people come out and put my hot water tank in because all the work is needed to be done by them. He said that’s just to make more money and that’s what plumbers do. It’s really not that expensive. All it is, is you get the part. It made me look at American Home Shield in a whole different side. I wouldn’t even recommend them. I’m paying every month faithfully and then $75 even for the service call to come out. I've been a long-time customer of AHS, and once again, I've been pleased with their coverage and service. I had a toilet that unexpectedly broke in the middle of the night, cause unknown, probably due to wear and tear or an existing flaw in the porcelain. AHS set me up with a contractor within 24 hours, and my toilet was replaced for no more than the cost of my service call. The contractor was great, courteous, professional and timely and did a wonderful job. Without this coverage, my cost would have been at least $500 or more. For $100, everything was replaced, I got a brand new toilet and both AHS and the contractor did an excellent job addressing my concerns.
I've had other home warranties in the past that were virtually worthless, had no contractors at all to serving any type of issue, and the one time I was able to obtain coverage (dishwasher was no longer operational), they simply sent me a check for $170 (after already paying the service fee). This was for a high-end stainless steel interior Whirlpool dishwasher. Essentially, after deducting the cost of the service fee, I received $70 to replace a $600-$700 appliance, rather than even attempting to repair it (the water pump simply needed to be cleared of calcium deposits). AHS by comparison has been easy to deal with, I've gotten more than my money's worth and I certainly wouldn't be without it.

We have been operating our air conditioning unit since the house was built in 1989. Then in 2011, the collection pan overflowed and caused one spot on the dry wall. We called American Home Shield and they sent Piedmont Mechanical in Loganville. They supposedly fixed that but they fixed the wrong thing. Then they kept making appointments and cancelling them. They also told American Home Shield that they were here but nobody was here. They started lying as well and tried to collect money from American Home Shield for work that they didn't do. So we've asked American Home Shield never to send them out here again and that’s how we ended up with AAction. They’re prompt and a little better than Piedmont.
For a while, nobody was living upstairs and we stopped using that air conditioning unit for a number of years until I came back in December, 2015. Last year, it overflowed again and started damaging the dry wall so we called AHS about three weeks ago. The reps we dealt with were courteous and professional. We had somebody else come out here to take care of the problem. They had to clean out the drainage line but it clogged again because of the same leakage. They repaired the clogged line and adjusted the fan that’s rusting out. The unit seems to be working alright now and so far, so good.
But we're trying not to push it too much for fear of having it overflow again. That pan is not supposed to overflow in the first place and it’s just in extreme cases that it doesn't have any condensation in it. So it's a problem with the unit itself. Also, it should not be a normal occurrence to have water in there but it turns out that pan’s busted. Overall, we're fairly satisfied with American Home Shield but now we get to worry about how we're going to repair the damage to the dry wall. As far as I know and based on our past experience, that's not covered by American Home Shield.

The pool pump started making a lot of noise so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. The technician came out bright and early the next day and he was very professional. He replaced the pump motor of the pool filter system, but he also checked the whole system and made sure that was the only thing that was wrong. He was excellent and it’s now performing as it should. It was a great relief that we had AHS in place ‘cause they took care of it quickly and provided excellent service.

When I first contacted American Home Shield, it was for an air conditioning problem. They sent an air conditioner guy from Myers. That company had an app in which I could track the technician on the phone. The app also showed if he’s waiting and how many minutes were there until his arrival. It was really neat. Everybody should use that. However, the tech ended up saying that the problem was not with the air conditioning but was an electrical issue. He said, “I think it’s a problem with the breaker panel because I can get it started, but then it will shut off.” So, I set up a service call with an electrician.
When the electrician came, he checked the breaker panel and found out everything’s fine. He went to check the air conditioner upstairs and saw that the switch that was on the panel was causing the problem. There’s a pressure twitch so when the panel was pulled up, it started to get down. Because the air conditioner guy did not find that, I ended up having to pay the $75 price. But everything works fine now. Also, both servicemen were very professional and pleasant. They handled themselves very well and were well-spoken and articulate too. Still, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield.
Don,
Although your service request was transferred to a different technician to further assist, we are happy to know that your a/c issue was resolved. We, at American Home Shield, are also glad to hear that newer technology helped track the vendors' location, especially so your services were not delayed. Thank you for sharing your outstanding experience with us!

My AC wasn't working and my friend who was then sitting the house submitted the claim with American Home Shield. We made our holiday short because we felt worried about our house. It took almost a week before anybody came to take care of it and the reason given was that it kept raining, but it didn’t rain all the time. When the contractor came, he fixed the unit immediately and now it's working fine. My experience with AHS normally has been very good and I'm happy being with them, but it wasn’t really satisfying that the contractor took so long. They could’ve made a better effort to hit one of the times when it wasn’t raining.

I had a problem with the air-conditioning unit. A mold messed up on it and it went bad. AHS got it straightened out and the contractor they sent seemed nice and real good. It also seemed like they knew what they're doing. Since the repair, the AC has been better. We don’t have problems all the time, but whenever we do, we call on AHS and everything’s been working fine with them. I’d recommend them.

My AC was leaking. The water was backing up and causing the kill switch to turn on and kill the unit, and then the water was in the pipe so water was leaking out. I had to walk in from work and it'd be 85 degrees in my apartment. I live in South Louisiana, so it was really hot and I had to get American Home Shield to come out and take a look at it. So I went online and submitted a claim for the first time. Their website is easy to use and they were on top of it.
I claimed on a Friday and the contractor came on a Monday. He called me and told me that he was 15 minutes out and that he was on his way. He knew exactly what was going on and he went in there and blew the water out. Then he reconnected the PVC pipe and the AC started working fine. He said that what happened to my AC is pretty common in South Louisiana. He was probably out of my condo for about ten minutes and I haven't had any issues with the AC since he came. He was very professional and knowledgeable, which made the process a lot easier. Everything went great and I'm satisfied with my American Home Shield experience.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years now and the most recent claim I filed was for our dryer. It would come on but it would not cycle. I submitted it over the phone and I had a very long wait time of about 25 minutes and I wasn’t happy with that. But once I got a hold of their reps, they were very nice and polite to me. The contractor was a nice guy too. He met every appointment that he said he was coming. He also did what he was supposed to do. He put in a couple of different parts and thought he had the problem fixed but it wasn’t. He was persistent though. He then put in a computer board, but it wasn't still functioning right as the dryer would come on and then would shut back off.
He ordered another board. He said sometimes those boards come in and they could be bad. After the latest board was put in the dryer has been working fine. The repair took about three weeks because the contractor had to order the part each week and it would come in the next week. I’ve had other people sign up with AHS because I’ve had good experiences with them. Some of them haven’t had such great experiences as I've had but I've had good luck with AHS.

I recently had an issue and it took a while for a supervisor to call me back on it and I did not really appreciate it. Every time American Home Shield sends somebody to my house, I pay $75. And with a warranty, I feel like that shouldn’t have to happen. I was trying to get a repair on some electrical work and the person that they sent out had to rush through the work order. They have things they have to do too and a lot of customers, but I’m a customer also. The person should have tried to help resolve the issue that I was having right then and there. All he did was walk in my house, fix one outlet and then left and then they wanted to charge me $75 for it. I don't think it was worth $75. And then, they said I didn’t pay them. I’m trying to at least talk to somebody through customer service but it takes so long to get people on the phone. I tried to pay through their automated service and it won’t take my card. I’m still trying to pay it.
I have further electrical issues, so I had to reschedule another appointment with them and wait, and that was an inconvenience for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor. And it was supposed to be a 48-hour period for the supervisor to call me back and it was a week later that it happened. I should not have to wait a week when I pay with a yearly deal. Next year, I might reconsider AHS.

They've gotten worse over the years. I bought my first home in 1999 and I've had American Home Shield forever. They were great in the beginning. Now their clientele has grown and they are not able to service their clientele. They suck from a service standpoint. Based on my ridiculous experience the last time I had a service call, submitting a claim online was extremely easy but when I called them, I can't get anyone on the phone. I was on hold for over an hour which was ridiculous. And no one ever came to the phone so I eventually hang up.
Since I can't get AHS, I also tried reaching the contractor and it turned out to be a joke. They had a voicemail that was full and I couldn't leave a message. No one answered the phone and it was two hours later before someone called me back which was crazy. The last resort I had was try to do the chat so I logged in and no on ever came to the chat window. It doesn't make any kind of sense. Then the request stated that the service provider tried to reach out to me, which was not true. I've been sitting all day and no one called me or came to my house. They were just updating their system and they tried to reach me unsuccessfully.
I'm single and I can't fix things around my house. So they kind of had me in a situation and I didn't have an option but to deal with American Home Shield. At the time, the house was 110 degrees because my AC went out and it was out for 3 days before they got it fixed. But since the repair, there were no problems with its performance. Having said all that, I am still happy with the service and would even recommend them to people. I am satisfied because when things do go wrong, I'd rather pay for a $75 service call versus the $2,000 replacement fee for it.

Like other negative reviews - AHS took a long time to answer phone calls. Some were nicer than others. I bought a house knowing that the AC unit was broken and could use AHS to help fix it (per previous homeowners) but when I called & got an open work order because AHS didn't have any AC companies to suggest in Maui, Hawaii. I called several AC companies and as soon as I told them I have AHS they said no. They said AHS requires the worker to be on the phone before they can work on it, but that worker won't know how much it would cost. Another company said they didn't get their money AHS from another customer so they will not work with AHS. They were willing to work with me.
I called AHS at least 3 times telling them that no one wants to work with them. I asked if they could suggest other companies that I could call (they provided no one). And lastly they said I can fix it myself and submit my receipt and possibly they might reimburse me. I don't want to be possibly reimbursed. I strongly recommend you need to have more support, more companies that will work with you in all states that you sell your warranty to. If you are a Hawaii resident, I strongly advise you to call companies and asked if they would work with AHS. I even had my realtor call an AHS sale representative but he/she did not answer my call. My realtor will not suggest AHS to other customers now. AHS might be good for other states but not in Hawaii. Do not buy AHS. Very disappointed customer!!!

Seven years ago in December, right before Christmas, my refrigerator went out. I called American Home Shield and they sent Sears out. Sears came out and checked everything and told me that something in the back hadn’t been cleaned. I was supposed to pull the refrigerator out, take the back off and clean it out using a vacuum cleaner. I said, “That’s the reason why I have American Home Shield.” I was not going to pull the refrigerator out. But American Home Shield didn’t cover it. and I lost all my food. That was the first time I had a problem with AHS.
Then in November of 2016, my heat wasn’t working. So I called American Home Shield, put in the work order. the guy came out and checked the furnace. He told me that the furnace needed a part that he had to order. Two weeks later, he came back and put the part on. The heat worked fine all winter. Then at the beginning of summer, my air wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield again. They sent another company out. He went down and checked. He said that I have a lot of rust up in my furnace. He advised not to use it when winter comes.
Turns out the guy that put the part in there rewired something incorrectly. That’s why I wouldn't get any air. So the guy did whatever he had to do for me to have air. Then I called Laclede Gas Company out because they check your furnace for free. So the Laclede Gas came out. They took pictures of the inside of my furnace. The furnace had two cracks in it. I know these cracks didn’t just happen within November to April or May when I turned my air on. So he wrote the paper up. He showed me pictures where the crack was. I called American Home Shield again and told them what was going on. They sent the same guy that noticed the rust in the furnace. I showed him the papers that Laclede Gas had written up. They reattached my furnace. So he said, he had to get an authorization from American Home Shield.
The guy that came from the gas company was telling me about Superior, which was the company that does the work for them. So I decided to go with Superior. Superior came out, put a new furnace in. Before they came out, the air was working fine. The next day when I got up, the temperature in my house was almost 80 degrees.
So I called Superior back. They came out right away. The guy checked everything. He told me that I had a leak in my coil and that there’s no Freon. I mentioned that the air is working fine before they put the furnace in. He said it was nothing that they did. But somebody had to do something. So I asked if the leak can be repaired. He told me that my air conditioner holds seven pounds of Freon and each pound cost $100. Then he said something else. And it totaled up to $1,800. I said no, so his advice to me was to go and get a whole new system. I asked how much would it be if they put in a new central air unit. He told me $3,000. I said, “Oh, no. No, no, no, no.” So I called American Home Shield back again, told them what was going on. They send another company out the guy came out and looked at it. He told me that it can be repaired and repaired it.

I went online to submit a claim on a leaking faucet in a bathtub. I like how they set it up where I pay online for the trade fee because before I had to pay when the contractor came. It's good because I'm renting out my properties, and it was horrid trying to get the tenants to pay the trade fee and then reimburse them. I like that they made it easier. The contractor was good. When they called me, I explained to them that I was the landlord, but it was my property, and I gave them my tenant’s information and phone number. They contacted my tenant within 30 minutes of me giving them the information and then they set up the time with my tenant. They then went out and did the repair and they sent me a letter, letting me know what was done and when it was completed. Since then, the faucet’s not leaking anymore and everything is great.
American Home Shield is a great company. I've had the home warranty for at least five years and I haven’t had any issues when I needed services. It's a fantastic relationship and it gives me peace of mind knowing that by me living in a whole different state from where my property is located, I can count on AHS when something goes wrong to handle it accordingly. All around, it’s a great experience.

Dealing with American Home Shield is so bad. The last time when I had a claim, I timed it and I waited an hour and 11 minutes on the phone. They also want account or ID numbers and I don't have it handy when making a call. And then, I had asked to speak to a supervisor and when they transferred me, I got a machine. And I haven’t called them that many times, but every time I called, I get the same problem. It's either there are too many customers or they don’t have good management in handling their telephone calls.
One time before, I was charged with about $123 but they didn’t repair the problem so I had to call back. Another time, I finally canceled a service. It was too much trouble and I was able to get somebody else to fix it. But, the electrical problem in my air conditioning couldn’t get fixed without having somebody come out and they sent somebody to do that. The people that came out were super and did a good job. I signed something and I assumed I was signing and paying for the service which was $75. I talked with AHS and I asked how come I am paying full if they have an automatic draft. They said that it was for something else. They also told me that the $75 was for the call.
At that point, I wanted to wait until I got my bank statement because I don’t have a good feeling about American Home Shield. I've talked to some neighbors and they have not had good experiences. Some were the same to what I'm experiencing. They're not a company I could recommend to anybody. I'm stuck with them until my contract is up but I'm definitely going to go somewhere else. They don’t deserve my business. My experience with AHS is so bad that I'm amazed they’ve been able to fool enough people and keep dealing with them.

When our dishwasher needed a repair, I submitted the claim with American Home Shield. Their representative was very professional, but getting through to them is difficult at best. There are times that the hold times are absurdly long. Many times, they exceed 30, 40 minutes which is extremely frustrating. We have a special number that we can call because of the association that we have. My wife and I are realtors but it doesn't matter what number we call to reach them. The least amount of time that their recording said was 30 minutes. It takes a God-awful amount of time and I'm not going to sit on the phone for that amount of time waiting for somebody to answer my call.
We have a representative who deals with our office. I've taken upon myself to call him directly and he's been very responsive, but he even told me that getting through to American Home Shield is difficult, too. Apparently, success has gotten to them and they've gotten too big, too fast and they need to staff their call centers because we can't get through to them if you have a question. It was even further frustrating because they don't do the repairs themselves. They have contractors that do the repairs.
The first contractor that came wasn't really proficient at repairing dishwashers. He told us and we naively accepted his diagnosis at first because we're not technicians. They simply wanted us to change the detergent we used so, we did what he told us to do. When they came back, we still have the problem. In addition, the dishwasher was leaking on the floor, ruining our hardwood floors and then we found out and we paid them their $100 upfront, then we had to pay them another $100 a number of months later because the fellow who came knew what he was talking about and he diagnosed it properly that that part was needed. Now granted a dishwasher is not a life and death situation, so we do have the capability of washing the dishes ourselves, but we were paying for the home warranty and we were given misinformation by their contractor.
We were caught in the middle because the dishwasher was old and its manufacturing was discontinued so, the part that was needed to repair it was not available. We didn't find that out for an additional two to three weeks. That became a prolonged situation until we finally found out from American Home Shield that they were going to replace the dishwasher because they could not repair it. We've gotten it replaced. My wife and I have made it very clear to them that we weren't really happy with trying to communicate with them. Their program seems to be okay except that they also have some work to do. They're selling a lot of their policies and they have to spend a little bit more time vetting the vendors that they use to make sure that they're more capable and more professional. I'd also like to see them add more agents so that communicating with them is more efficient.

My air conditioner was 15 years old and I had to call American Home Shield because it was leaking and just quit cooling. The contractor came in and they had to order some stuff which took a while. They got it fixed it but it went out again. They came back out and it was something outside that needed to be replaced. They opened it up and it was totally gunked up and rusted. They never came or called back after that so I called them. And they finally came back out and fixed it and I hadn’t had any problem since. They did an awesome job.
However, if I want to talk to a representative about anything, it's at least a 30-minute wait. That’s ridiculous. When we first started with AHS around 15 years ago, it was fine. Now, it's just getting harder and harder. I waited for about 48 minutes the last time I called. If I didn’t renew, it would be for that reason. Customers are frustrated about something not working and it makes people mad to have to sit there and wait. And then, I'm sure reps are rude to the people and it just makes for a bad situation.

Our old conditioner blew up and I filed the claim to American Home Shield by telephone. However because of our harsh schedule, it was two weeks by the time we got somebody else here. The contractor was from Muskegon and he was courteous and very informative. My husband asked him a lot of questions and he answered them all. He explained things and what he was doing, and also showed us what was wrong and what had happened to it. He was outstanding.
He had started working on the air conditioner but then he said there was nothing he could do and it had to be replaced. It was very hot when that Haier went out but we made it through it. The AHS representative called after she got the report from the technician and told us that we could choose different brands. We got the new Payne air conditioner put in. It worked out well and we’re very pleased with the home warranty.
American Home Shield is a great company. In fact, I am a realtor and I have sold so many of these home warranties of American Home Shield. I get a little card from Steve and he would tell me what my client had replaced and what kind of problem it was. So then I always call him and my clients have all been very happy with American Home Shield.
A couple of times I've had AHS on my house. It would last then I would sign up again. My daughter also bought a house in Cincinnati and I put an American Home Shield home warranty on it. She bought it near her birthday and every year for her birthday I always ask her what she wants. She wants another home warranty so we keep the home warranty up for her every year. I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for the dryer. It stopped working but we didn't realize what the cause was. Submitting claims varies as it sometimes comes right on the phone and sometimes I have to wait an hour to get somebody to come answer the phone. But once I get to the claims reps, they're really nice. They got all the records on the computer. However, it would be so much easier if they would do like what Delta or T-Mobile do, where I call in and if somebody can't get to me, I'd give them my number and they'll call me back when it's my turn. The contractor then came by the next day. He knew what the problem was. It was the door which wouldn't shut. He had the part on the truck. He fixed it in 20 minutes and left when done. The only major thing about them is that sometimes if they had to order a part, it may take an extra week to get it and to get it rescheduled. Overall, I'm happy with it.

The only thing that was confusing was I thought someone from Anytime Plumbing would be coming out. The van of the guy who came to the house didn’t say Anytime on it. It said A&D Plumbing. My Sub-Zero refrigerator was not working well. It's so difficult to submit a claim with AHS. Every call, I have to wait about an hour before I can get through and after that, they'll find a repair company that's not familiar with Sub-Zero refrigerators. The company sent the same people three times to my home, so every time I'm working with them, I have to stay home just to wait for them. The first time, they did something, and after they left, it was the same situation. So I had to call American Home Shield just to tell them it's not working so, I had to wait for an hour. When it finally went through, they sent the same guy again so, I complained. I said that the company wasn't familiar with how to repair this kind of refrigerator but they didn't care. They sent the same guy again in two days. He did something again, then he said there shouldn't be a problem.
After he left, the same situation persisted. I have to wait to report to American Home Shield again. For that, it took 10 days. Then they sent the same person again to my home. I asked them if they could find somebody who's familiar because the person already came twice. Then a person came and did something but it's still not working so I had to call again and waited for another. I told them to not send us the same person to my home for the fourth time. They finally said they'd find somebody. Somebody called then in a couple of days, I had to call again.
Finally, I asked for the supervisor and said, "This is messed up". I talked to a supervisor but two weeks had already gone that I couldn't use my refrigerator. They got somebody who's familiar with the refrigerator and they came yesterday. The guy said that he knew what happened and that he had to order some parts so, that would take another week to wait for the part. If the part comes, then at least it will be put in the same week.
I had a problem with my air conditioner before but that was very quickly fixed so, it depends on the company. They don't have a reliable company in a certain location so, that created the problem. I also have a rental home so, I have two contracts with them. Each time I called them for the service, I had to pay $75. Now, they add $8 for tax. The other one right now, it comes over $100 per service call. I told them that I never changed the contract but they said that I have to wait for another year to make sure it goes back to the $75.
My rental home also has a Sub-Zero refrigerator. For the last two weeks, my tenant complained and said that the refrigerator was not doing well. For that refrigerator, AHS found a person who specializes in Sub-Zero but for my refrigerator at my home, they couldn't find the same person. They found a person who's one hour away who came three times. I asked them how come they're able to find a specialist for my tenant's house. They said that when they put my address in, they couldn't find a vendor so it's a mess. It's very disappointing. The problem is psychological and you cannot handle it. When something goes wrong, it will go on forever. You have to make all these calls and it will take weeks to finally solve some problems.
Ganru,
We do understand how important a refrigerator is needed in the household. It appears we are currently still working to get this issue resolved. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will follow-up with you soon to ensure this is followed through to resolution. Thanks!

The electrical was the last service call we had. We live in an old house so switches started to not work properly. The chandelier in the stairwell would only turn on with one of the two switches and the other one would sometimes turn it on. We dealt with it for a while until we finally decided to do something about it. It was easy to do the claim online and American Home Shield communicated promptly. The electrician that came out found that there's a bad three-way switch, and he resolved it. There was another chandelier that wasn't working properly but he couldn't get into the chandelier to check the wiring, so he couldn't fix it which was fine. He was very polite and made me feel very safe. He did a good job.

I found an appliance man from Cape Coral and he’d come here a lot for me so I’m debating with myself since I haven’t restarted the American Home Shield yet. I don’t know what’s the least expensive membership I can get. I took it because I have an 11-year-old refrigerator. The problem is the ice maker because that’s what’s causing the water on the floor. And one thing after another’s happening to my dishwasher. I put a lot of money this year and I had the repairman come out four different times for the refrigerator and the dishwasher.
Carlos is a good appliance repairman and he’s very knowledgeable, pleasant and neat. He always manages to get them going. I don’t know what he charges to come out but I know what it costs when he comes with AHS. Most people in Sanibel charge an extra $60 to come out here because they’ve got to pay the toll and it takes them longer. Carlos was very nice about that. He was here so many times for the microwave that it finally got replaced. I don’t know how many more times I have to go on the refrigerator and the stove.
I’m trying to figure out what’s the most economical way because I don’t know how bad it has to be before you replace it. I’m not trying to gyp out of anything because if he can fix it, then I don’t have to buy another one. If I don’t have the service and I have to go to the store, it’s going to cost over $1,000 for each of them that’s why I’m in a debate about what to do about it.
Before I sold my house up north, I ordered it because I was afraid that my appliance would go out and buy a brand-new appliance just as I was leaving. I was very happy I ordered it for the least amount of time. I told the new owners that they can use it and extend it if they liked it. It’s my best choice and I would recommend them. Other people say it’s the least expensive way to go because, by the time you call someone, you pay them by the hour. I have to add it up and see if the prices have gone up and what it costs this year as opposed to last.

The first experience with AHS was positive. We bought the home on a Friday and our air conditioner went out on that Sunday. It was a weekend so we couldn't find our account online but AHS was able to find it. We called that 1-800 claim number and submitted a claim. We called at 11:30 night time and waited not more than 10 minutes. And then their rep told us who to call or who was going to call us. But he ended up calling the Recap Home Services because we hadn't heard from them within 24 hours. Nevertheless, Recap Home Services responded back and came out within a day. The contractor was there for an hour, listened to the unit and was good at keeping us updated. The AC has been working fine since the repair. I dealt with other home warranty companies before and it wasn't the best experience, but with AHS, it was good.

I had a plumbing issue and called American Home Shield to file a claim. It was quick and their rep helped me in a good fashion. The first contractor kept on putting me off, so I called back American Home Shield and within a couple of hours, I had a new one. The contractor called me and the plumber came, got on the problem and did a good job, which was not an easy repair. All in all, it's easy to contact AHS whether I use the phone or online. I also like the fact that they were able to easily switch me to a more efficient contractor.

Since they repaired my fridge, I’ve had no problems. I hope it lasts another 100 years. Ticket#1: Issue not resolved (Feb to May): My refrigerator gasket went bad on Feb. Some Vendor installed Gasket in Feb, but it did not work. We followed up multiple times and we were told to keep trying. Nothing worked! Ticket#2: Same issue reopened and still not resolved (June to Till date): Eventually I called AHS in June stating prior service did not work. I was told new ticket should be created for this time (since prior service is more than three months). New ticket was created and new vendor service (universal) person came in June and mentioned Gasket which was installed before was incorrect. They placed order for Gasket and told it is on backorder and it will take few months to get gasket.
We waited patiently and they finally arrived on 08/30 to install. But now they are saying the refrigerator they placed order for is different. They sent me few photos of fridge for which they placed order. It is NOT my fridge! We waited for 3 months for absolute no use, because they placed order for some wrong fridge which is not ours. They are claiming that we changed our fridge, which is incorrect. We have fridge with bad gasket since Feb - nothing changed from our side.
Confusion inside AHS Customer Service: As next step, I called customer service (waited for 1.5 hrs to get someone) yesterday evening (8/30). They told me to call Appliance Purchasing Department in morning. After 1.5 hours of wait again, I was able to reach Customer Service in morning. Now I was told I shouldn't reach appliance purchase, because there is no work order for purchase. Wrong information from AHS agent - I am confused! I told them I am done waiting and I would like to cash out for gasket. They forwarded to Cash out Dept stating I am all ready for cash out...
Now Cash out dept says they cannot cash out, until the confusion/issue with vendor is resolved - Wrong information from AHS agent - I am totally confused! I frustrated baby sitting this process. In Nut Shell: AHS just acts as portal for linking people. No escalation path for confusion. No ownership for resolving issues. NO defined SLAs for fixing issues. I paid 75$ twice for vendors to fix my fridge and waited for 6 months. Result - absolutely nothing!!! Now I placed an order for refrigerator myself outside. Such a waste of time (6 months) and money (150$) with AHS!

American Home Shield was offered to us when we purchased our home. The contract was for one year. We didn't research any other warranty companies and continued to renew with American Home Shield for the last six years. We had a recent claim on our air conditioner and I had called to cancel my contract because I had gone through a lot of annoyances dealing with customer service, and being passed around, and no one giving me a sure answer. Then I spoke with a lady in the retention office to help me out and put me in contact with someone. If it hadn't been for her taking care of that matter, I would have definitely cancelled my contract. A different contractor came out that day and took care of my problem.
It was hard to get contractors out here because they were so busy with contracts. It would be weeks at a time before they could come out. Heat and air have been the two main problems here. I have three small children and when it comes to the air condition or the heat, that needs to be a priority. What's frustrating is that the air conditioner has had so many problems, and AHS won't condemn it. They just continue to piece and put new parts on it until it wears out. We keep showing the money to get that over and over again. The unit is as old as this house, so it's going to keep breaking down. It would save everybody time, headache, and money in the end if they’d replace it. I was told by their customer service representative that there were no other contractors in our area who would fix the AC, and that was not true.
Also, I was paying the older contractor on the spot when he was finished with the job. But, they were not reporting to AHS that it was paid. So, I received multiple emails and harassing letters, stating that they’re going to cancel my contract. Several times I had called AHS and was treated very ugly by the customer service representative, and even hung up on. It's very frustrating. I have multiple neighbors who have dealt with the old contractors that aren't happy as well. That is something that needs to be looked into. The new contractors are excellent, though. I called and a man came out in 10 minutes and took care of my problem in less than 45 minutes. But overall, it hasn’t been a good experience with American Home Shield.

We had an AC problem and submitted a claim to AHS. Their claims process was easy but most times, an issue took them five days to get it fixed, then they come back three times to get it right. I talked to somebody there every time and there's not really a resolution. The AC is working fine now. But the first time, the vendor said something was caught up or wasn't moving and he did something. It worked for two days, and then it started blowing out again. Then they came back out, and I asked out what it was, said some type of sensor. It worked for a few days and then it went out, and then they finally fixed it.
After a week or two, it's not blowing as cold as it was. It was still cold but it wasn't keeping up. They found something was leaking and fixed it. It’s very frustrating getting repairs done, it takes multiple times all the time, back and forth. They should get more competent contractors. Like with the appliance, they sent out some dude who doesn’t speak English very well. It took about five times to fix it. But overall, I like the service and it’s good to have.

I called AHS about the freezer late at night and I got to them very quickly, but they did not have anyone who could come out right away. I told them I was concerned because everything was going to spoil and the rep checked and got permission to send the job to somebody else. She gave me their dispatch number and their name and their phone number and said that that person would be calling. I called the contractor the night before but he made it that day and he came in. He opened the freezer, took out the top rack and turned it around, put it in and then he closed the freezer. He said the freezer wasn’t closing because the top rack was put in backward. We were new to the house and whoever cleaned the freezer put the top rack in that way. It took the contractor two minutes to fix the problem and I had to pay him $75 but it’s worth every penny.
For my plumbing problem, I had to wait a very long time on the phone calling AHS, and it was very frustrating. Due to visual problems, I just do the phone, but I ended up hanging up and trying to call back again. AHS did send a plumber and the contractors from J & M Plumbing have been really sweet people. I had a couple of clogged drains that they did very quickly and very easily. I also had two toilets that had problems with flushing and the contractors also looked at those. One of the toilets needed a new part but the contractors had everything that was needed in their car and they were able to take care of both of those things as well. Also, the shower piece was leaking out where the water comes out. When I turn it from the shower tub to the shower head, I can turn the water and it will go up to the shower head but it’s still coming out of the faucet part.
The contractor was able to fix that problem by tightening something but there was a diverter needed. He didn’t know if the diverter would be covered given the expense of getting it in that particular color. If they did get it in that color, they’d have to order the part and it wasn’t something they could do that day so they had to come back. They called me back and they did end up getting approval from Home Shield for that. I was very happy because it’s like a copper kind of color. They came back another day and they’re very good about the timing, letting me know when they were coming and not just showing up and sticking to the window of the thing that was scheduled. The diverter was like a big piece that had to be changed but, again, they were very professional and they did a great job.
There was also some jiggling in the shower pole itself and the contractors said that in order to fix the jiggling and the shower pole, it would have required someone else to cut into those walls in order to be able to access the stuff and then to have it made look pretty after it was fixed. That wasn’t something that they could do as plumbers. I was concerned about its jiggling because I was afraid it would end up breaking. The contractor was really clever and he used a dark colored plastic tie that wouldn’t show with this color piping. He held the piece to the wall and he put his plastic tie in really tight and he held it in place. He said the tie might hold the jiggling for a while, but it’s been holding the shower pole ever since. He said that if the tie ever loosens up, I just have to tighten it again. They clipped it so you don’t even see it and it was a very creative, ingenious fix. I was really impressed with the service that was provided.
I had a plumber in from J & M Plumbing for something that AHS would not cover before I had these plumbers in. It was a different shower head that had a crack in it and it was found on the inspection of the house. My understanding is, if it’s found on inspection, then it won’t be covered so I was kind of bummed about that. The sellers said that what they did was functional and it was fine but it was a do-it-yourself thing. Another thing that came up on the inspection was that our gutters not only needed cleaning but also some downspouts which were missing. I had someone in because the air conditioning needed regular maintenance and, like the gutters, that’s not covered by Home Shield. The people that came to do the regular maintenance on the air conditioning also did plumbing so while they were in the house, I had them look at these things that were and weren’t covered by Home Shield.
With the price quotes that I got from the contractors, they would have charged me a lot more money to do the things that Home Shields covered. I sort of do a cross comparison. If I had to pay for a plumber to come in and do the things that were covered, it would have cost me actually a few hundred dollars and instead, it cost me $75. I knew when I called Home Shield that that $75 on the plumber was going to be worth it. The $150 on the two calls that I had them come for, saved me more than $150. So the $650 or so that it cost for the policy all total, I’ve saved quite a bit so far. There have been some things I knew that Home Shield has not covered but I was really happy that they covered everything that they did.

American Home Shield has been doing fine, except for one of the contractors they sent. His and Her Plumbing was to put in our water treatment system and they charged me $300. They brought it out in an unmarked box. There was no paperwork and when I asked for the warranty, the person they sent said I have to go online and get it. They were able to put in the water treatment system and then the container that holds the salt. But it had a 60-degree angle so I’ve had the contractor out.
The four times they came, all they did was dig a little bit around it enough to where they could get it up straight. Then they take a little bit of rocks to stack around. But as soon as the first rain comes, it’s back to the same angle. Every time I called His and Her Plumbing, they send someone and still get the same results. They don’t seem to be interested so I got tired of calling them. I already found someone who’s going to fix it for me. While I’m very dissatisfied with the water treatment system contractor, American Home Shield was pretty good on other things they have sent out a contractor for. My wife also said the claim submitting process is no problem. So far, we’re satisfied with AHS and anything from regular plumbing, I’d recommend them.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield was my air conditioning, which went on the fritz in the first part of May. We went without air conditioning with 95 degrees in our house from May until August 1st. AHS sent out seven different people on May 20th that could not fix the problem, so we requested that they send out another air conditioning company. They sent four different companies, and not one could solve the problem. They were all saying that it was our ductwork up inside our ceiling, and they wanted us to cut holes in our ceiling to find out where the problem was in our ductwork. I refused and told AHS, “How about you let me get an outside company to come in and see if he can find the problem and fix it.” American Home Shield agreed, so I called the person that we usually get to fix our air conditioning. The tech came out here and within 15 minutes, he had it fixed.
The repair had nothing to do with our ductwork. The problem was one of the companies put a fan motor that goes on the compressor. He put it on backwards and It was turning backwards. So there was no way he was going to get any air flow coming through the vents because it was pumping the air out of the house back into the unit. Now our air conditioning is wonderful and we have had no more problems with it. However, American Home Shield is supposed to reimburse us $325 for what our air condition guy charged. They said we would have it within a week to ten days, and we haven’t received it yet.
American Home Shield was good to fix my washing machine. We were also having a problem with some plumbing and they got it fixed the first time. But overall I would not recommend any of their companies for air conditioning. There are better ones out there than what American Home Shield is. I never talked to the same person at American Home Shield twice. They would say they would call us back, but they never returned our call. We always had to get on the phone and call them back. And a lot of times, we were on hold. And some of them would try to help us while others would just transfer us.

In my recent claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning, the contractor and I had some trouble figuring out what the problem was. It took five weeks to resolve. They said it was a part that took some time to order and when it came, they went back here. It was leaking again and they put more freon in. That didn't work, so then they figured out a part might have been installed wrong. Then it got cold. When it broke down, it was on a Friday afternoon and when I was calling AHS, I had to call back two of the three times. I had to wait all the way until Monday to get anybody to answer a call, even though they said that the person that was coming out to service was open on Saturday. Nobody ever returned my phone call. I've had American Home Shield for quite a while now and I'm happy with them. My most recent claim with them was my kitchen faucet. A plumber came out and he was just here for three to five minutes. He just opened the sink and looked under it. He took out his iPhone and took a picture. He showed me a picture of looks like the seal in the faucet. He said that we have to order the part and he'd have to get it approved from AHS.
AHS called me and said that the plumber had to make modifications to the pipes in order to fix the faucet. The plumber didn't even tell me about the pipes and there's no pipe that goes to the faucet or connects to it. I just didn't understand that at all. It would cost me $175 to modify the pipes and the faucet was $50. So I told them not to do it. I called my cousin and we went to Lowe's and bought the faucet that was exactly like the one that was on the sink for $50. We came back and put it on. We didn't have to modify anything and just replaced it with exactly what was on it. This particular experience with them it was not good.

I was on vacation when my central air broke down. My golf partner does heating and air conditioning. I didn’t call him because I have American Home Shield. A First Response was the first company to come out and they are the worst company in the world. What the technician told me was the reason why it happened, why my lines froze up, and everything stopped working because I ran low on coolant. He said, “Listen, I’m not going to fix the leak. I’m not even going to look for the leak because if I find it, chances are it’ll be in an inoperable area where I’m not going to be able to fix it anyway.” So he told me he'd put in the sealant which by the way was pretty much insurance fraud because I didn’t know if he did that. He charged me $107 for it. So, it was a $700 something bill and he said, “ A First Response will pay for $10 of your coolant, but after that, it’s up to you. It’s $50 per gallon.” He didn’t ask me how much I needed.
My best friend, Dave, who was three doors down me called me and told me paying the technician $50 per gallon didn’t seem right. I looked at it and he’s up to 11.82 pounds. When I first bought the house two years ago, my best friend came over and put in an R22. He put in three pounds and it was full, and everything worked. I let the technician keep working and he told me I was set. My best friend was here and said, "They said you’re all set, but there’s still no cold air coming out of here." A First Response blamed it on a bad belt. So I went and got a heavy-duty belt, paid $20 myself, and left it there for the technician to put in. But they put in a starter belt and said I was all set again.
Then, my fiancee and I were sitting in my living room and all of a sudden there was smoke pouring out of all my vents. We started running all over the place trying to find what was going on. I went upstairs and I realized it has got something to do with the central air. So, I shut my thermostat, both switches, to off and I could hear the air. All the smoke stopped coming out of the vents, but I still could hear an engine running upstairs in the attic. I ran up to the attic and sure enough, there was smoke everywhere. So, I ran out back to my basement and shut the power breaker off. I was so disgusted. So I called right away to complain and they took it like it was no big deal.
And not only that, the second company, Malangone, came out and as soon as the first technician looked at it, he said, “I can’t work on this.” It came to be a faulty power breaker. I didn’t know what A First Response did. They wired stuff from the thing with the arc in it. I went to open the panel to my unit and sparks were flying off my screw driver. I got the panel off and looked at it. There were supposed to be three capacitors in there, one capacitor was the size of a Pepsi can. They’ve got metal touching a hot lead coming out.
So, what A First Response did didn’t fix the problem. Not only did they not do their job correctly, they almost burned down my house. Malangone said they can’t work on it because even with the power breaker off, there was still power coming through. They said they needed an electrician out before they did anything. Before they got to that power circuit, they took the test and said it’s totally overcharged. There was 6.5 gallons in there. Some of what I paid for the $700 was the coolant which overloaded and totally fried the system. It was an old system, but it worked perfect until that one problem that A First Response said was low on coolant.
And then American Home Shield called me again to confirm an appointment. They also said that the second company, Malangone, found the bad parts that A First Response did wrong that almost burned my house down, and that they were sending A First Response back out. A First Response called me and I told them I didn’t want them in my house ever again. I then I called American Home Shield back and they said, “Nope. You have to take them and you have to let them correct their mistake.” I said, “Listen. I don’t want them in home again. My daughter could have died up in her bedroom. We were going to leave for the night. And that’s not how you do things. Everything they touch, they wreak.” American Home Shield looked into more paperwork. My fiancée called to say it was unacceptable and also told them she was going to sue if it doesn’t get fixed. It’s been a nightmare all summer long. There was no central air. I bought my own window units and American Home Shield is going to refund me $100 at some point for those.
My electricity bill shot up, and though we're finally at the point where Malangone is putting in a new unit and Malangone has been nothing but great, I’m absolutely dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I can’t believe they tried to send out that A First Response again like they’re going to fix their mistakes. And what pisses me off even more is that I didn’t hire A First Response, I called American Home Shield. They hired them and they won’t even help me get my money back from them. The cherry on the top of it, Malangone took all those 12 gallons. They had to suck it all back out and put it into a jug to bring someplace else to resell it. I just paid $600 for that coolant that they're sucking out and go give it to somebody. They said they charge $120 per pound and I only paid $50 a pound.

Our air conditioner broke down and the company that American Home Shield sent to work on it did a terrible job. We had to get it repaired but trying to get service was a problem since we’re in Tuscaloosa and nobody in our town and in the town closest to us will contract with American Home Shield. I called six different companies and when I finally got one that would come and look at it, they weren’t affiliated with American Home Shield. So I had to pay extra money out of my pocket to find out what the guy had done that didn't work right.
A coil was set inside the system and it had to be replaced. AHS said that they could let the contractor that they used before work on it, but I wouldn’t have that contractor back to my house because when he came the second time, he left the whole unit apart. And when I got home from work, I didn’t have air and it was ninety degrees inside my house which was hotter than the temperature outside. My dog and I got sick, too. So AHS said they could do a payout but it would be for $800 only and I have to call some other company to do it.
My air conditioner is 12 years old and I have the old R-22 Freon that needed to be put it. When I talked to local companies, nobody wanted to put that Freon in because they want to try to upgrade me to a new unit. They also said that if they replaced the coil at $1,200, I still have to $1,000 for Freon. Then I'll have to upgrade in a few years so I'm already going to be out of pocket $2,500. They said they would give me a $1,000 trade in but when I asked American Home Shield for a new unit, they told me that they won't give me one. So right now, it looks like I'll have to replace my whole air conditioning system myself and pay it out of my pocket.
I have AHS for over 10 years and I didn’t have any problems with them before. This is the worst time and I don't want to deal with them anymore. I still have them for this year to March and I will not be renewing my contract. I’m disappointed in who they contracted with and I'm not satisfied that they can't have a contract with someone in the local area. The people in our town would contract out of Birmingham and they're only in Tuscaloosa three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so even if I met them for any repair on my air conditioner, I still don't have a 24-hour service. All they've been trying to do is sell me a unit but I told them that I'm not buying one from them. I'm going to buy it from somebody locally that would service it and that would be here if I need it. I'm not going to be at their discretion.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the hot water heater. The contractors were decent but it took a couple of weeks for them to get it squared away. I’ve been with the company since ’96 and they were great but what they've done decreased quality. They used to come out and repair the problem the same day. If it went beyond a week, they replace the item. But now, the contractors come to our house to do an evaluation and if there are parts needed, they have to take that information back, enter it into a computer and then American Home Shield orders the parts and sends it to the contractors. So, the contractor is at the mercy of AHS to get the part to rectify the problem and that's taken up a lot of unnecessary time.
Right now, the cooktop, a washing machine, and a dryer are all down and they’re on the same ticket. We need to take all these clothes to the Laundromat and I hate going there because we have a washer and dryer at home. And then we’re using a hot plate to cook. It all gets convoluted in the process. AHS needs to visit their process or they’re going to lose a lot of customers. I have friends that have home warranties and they tell me about these other people but I stayed with American Home Shield. But, this being loyal to a company doesn’t work anymore. They were a company that I recommended to friends and relatives all the time across the country, but I couldn't do that now.
People that control the money at American Home Shield needs to understand what they did in the past worked. We had a refrigerator and we paid good money for it. And then the algorithm dropped out of the microprocessor and the refrigerator went wacky. They came over and analyzed it. There was something wrong with it but they said they couldn’t fix it. They asked me to give them $50 and they'll replace it with a new one. Three days later, a brand new refrigerator was put in our home and they took the old one out. Otherwise, their customer service in the office is excellent. They're very gracious and they take care of me.

I submitted my claim with AHS online. I tried on the phone but because of these problems down in Texas, there was an hour wait. They were very prompt with the repair and it was very well done. It was a pleasant experience, a little cumbersome in the beginning, but I would chalk that up to the problems down in Texas.

I've had American Home Shield for 4 years ever since we've been in our house and I only had to use them three times. When our air conditioner stopped blowing out cold air, I called them and submitting the claim was fast and easy. The rep I spoke to was great. AHS responded immediately that time and someone called me back immediately. The contractor who came out was very cordial and friendly. When I told him what was going on, he knew exactly what it was. He also had the part with him, which was very unusual to me, so he was able to fix the AC and it's been running fine ever since. American Home Shield is a great company. I was very pleased with them and I would recommend them to someone else.

Our ice maker stopped working 5 months ago and is still not repaired! We have had 2 different service companies and 6 attempts to repair the ice maker. The first repairman damaged our trim trying to move the refrigerator. He attempted to hide the damage by gluing the trim back to the floor board, leaving a sloppy mess. Each repair person has a different diagnosis, yet none of worked.
Trying to get someone on the phone with this company is almost impossible! Plan on at least 45 minutes just to reach a human being - who then does nothing but put in yet another work order. The refrigerator obviously needs to be replaced - there isn't a part left that has not been replaced, but the company refuses to do so! Stay away from this company!!!

Overall, I am satisfied with the work that was completed fixing my garbage disposal. However, the repair indicated that the blades will likely bend again and this will be a repeated problem. I would have liked a more proactive response from American Home Shield instead of me simply having to call each time the blades aren't properly working.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for our AC and I requested the same company that serviced it in May because they knew of the existing problem. AHS said they were going to send that company and they ended up calling another company, so I had to call them back to straighten that out. They gave us priority service and they fixed the problem with the AC that day. So far, everything’s been fine. It was a very satisfying experience.

I had an air conditioning unit that was frozen up due to lack of Freon, so I called American Home Shield and it's relatively difficult. The wait is long when you call but once you get a hold of them, they're very responsive. It was a 112 heat index on that particular day, so they classified it as an emergency and they were out within three hours which was remarkable. Their rep was fine and the contractor was a knowledgeable young man and fixed the problem immediately. I know the call load must have been heavy with temperatures like that.
However, in the past, I had a couple of problems with one of their contractors. I had to have my thermostat replaced but the contractor said the only one he had on his truck was the plain thermostat and I have a programmable. I refused to have them put that in and I said, "No. I want it replaced with a programmable." He said, "Well, I don't have one." So, I had to call the company and they were very responsive again. They talked to the contractor and he did bring me a programmable thermostat. I know they take the contractors by bid but my only complaint is that every once in a while, I get a contractor that is not the most congenial but 75% to 80% of the time, they are.
Also, I had to have my dryer replaced last fall. We went through that a couple of times and American Home Shield offered me something. I looked it up online and they didn't have the options that my previous one had, so they made me another offer. We finally settled on one and they were very good about that. It was delivered and installed like they said it would be and everything was up to standards. Overall, I'm pleased with them and had very few problems. When they tell me they will do something, they do follow through and get things done.

I had a back-to-back claim for a dryer because it wasn’t working. I signed in to American Home Shield and filed a claim online. It was self-explanatory and you can be done in two or three minutes. I really like it and that it's a lot better than it was four or five years ago. I got a text and an email from AHS saying that they will call within a certain timeframe. Apparently, the contractor had changed the person that was answering the phones so it was a little hard to get in touch with them. The technician from Jones Family Appliance Repair has been out on the last three or four calls I've had and he’s been wonderful. He fixed my dryer, my microwave, and my dishwasher on three different occasions. I like the fact that it's the same person because I've used AHS a lot of times, more than I thought they probably would want me to but I don’t always get the same person every time but I have for my heating and air. I don’t think they recognized me, but that’s okay.
The dryer was fine. However, my heating and air don't heat in the winter at some point and I can't get the heating people over to diagnose the problem. The problem is they’ll come two days later and the low for the day would be 40 instead of 22. It has to be really cold for my heating to go out, which is frustrating. If I would hire somebody to come out and look at it, they would fix the part, but because they can't diagnose the part without showing AHS, that does make me mad because they're wasting everybody’s time. It feels like they're trying to skirt the issue. Also, I didn’t like it when the heating and air people came from a town that’s 25-30 miles away and it took them a long time to get here. I would prefer somebody local.
Other than that, everything had been fine and everybody had been timely. It's been a lot better than if I hired somebody on my own. It's a lot simpler. The contractors were paid upfront so they don’t have to collect the money. I don’t know if they got strung out on their payments. I've heard a bit of complaint from them, but I don't know how bad it is. If I pay AHS before the guy comes, I don’t know if they immediately release the money or let it sit for 30 days. I have a small business and that irritates me when people get paid and they don’t pay me for a while. Nevertheless, AHS was showing improvement. They really ticked me off with the way they handled a few things when we first got them, but it's gotten a lot better.

When I was shopping for a warranty company, American Home Shield had a lower number of bad reviews than their major competitors. But I found out that AHS is absolutely horrible. I've been a customer of theirs for a couple of years now, and they won't pay for anything. Recently, I had two things coming. One with my plumbing, and another with my air conditioner. And there's a problem with one of my drain lines coming from my laundry room. They're not gonna do anything about it. They're not gonna fix it and they don't cover anything.
I've had two of their people come out for my air conditioner. Both of them have told me that the system needs to be replaced. But American Home Shield will not replace it, They keep trying to send people to fix this or that, and nothing is fixing anything. I've had to pay $345 for some guy to come out and clean out its coil and put more Freon in. It's been going on for two months now. And so, I've had to go out and buy window units just to keep my house cool enough where it's tolerable. I fully expect them to tell me they're not gonna fix it when this is all over. I got the guys coming out Monday morning to assess the system again, even though it's been assessed five times. So I'm very, very, very unhappy with American Home Shield. I would not waste my money if I had it to do it over again. I am sick to death for American Home Shield. I would never ever recommend them to anybody.

I had somebody come out and fix my air conditioning. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was easy and I did it by phone but I could not get them to come out any earlier. They gave me an appointment but the contractor was four days out. He was pleasant enough and he tested the AC but the air seems to be coming out fine. I had to explain to him that I've had a leak previously but he did not seem to be interested in checking out a whole lot more. I thought maybe I had a hole in the duct work or there was something else further back in that system which would be the reason why my AC has trouble keeping up. I ended up having to call another company to come out and fix it and I paid out of pocket for it.

The air condition people came out, re-checked the AC unit and said that there's something wrong with the ductwork. They sent it over to AHS so that AHS would send somebody else to do the ductwork. However, no one from AHS contacted me back yet. I called and submitted that claim three weeks ago and they left me without air condition all this time knowing I have asthma. My brother-in-law came to the house and found out that the grates were squished so he popped them back up. We fixed the AC but it’s not fixed that well so AHS should contact me right away. I’d seen on the news that somebody had a problem with American Home Shield because they left her without AC for weeks at a time. That’s what AHS planned on doing to me and they didn’t care if I died from not having AC. I’ve never had hardly any problems with AHS until now.

I had three claims in the last month, which two of them were repeat claims. The dishwasher has taken over 60 days but still not resolved. A tech came, took 10 days to get a part, and fixed the problem, but the same thing broke again after using it for two days. I had to go through the process again. Four days later a guy came and then another 10 days for the part. When he got here to put the part in, he said there's another part that's broken and he has to go get it. We had to call AHS and they told us they'll send the part and it would take 10 days. That's when I got mad. I’ve been into this for over 30 days now. It costs $300 for the dishwasher and they could replace it for less than it's taking them to do this process. AHS said as long as it can be fixed, they’ll just fix it.
It doesn't make sense. They pay $800 to fix it instead of paying $400 to replace it. Three days later I get an email from them asking for more information. I got a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher and they wanted to give me a GE. If I want the model I have, I have to pay an extra fee, which seems to be the whole thing. I'm paying an extra fee for every time I do something with them. Not just my copay. I paid $87 more just to get the style of dishwasher that matches what's in my house. Also, to haul the unit away is another extra fee. They can get the dishwasher at Home Depot but they said they had to get it from the manufacturer and will be the 15th of September before I get it.
This was two weeks ago. J.B. Hunt called today to say they're delivering on the 30th. I asked who will install and they said it's not their problem and I had to call AHS. I called AHS an hour on the phone today waiting. I spend 45 minutes on them on hold every time I call them. The lady told me to call them again when I have the dishwasher. To sit on the phone another 45 minutes and then wait another 5 days for them to install. J.B. Hunt told me they’re going to deliver it on Wednesday. Why can’t we set up install on Thursday?
I had an air conditioner problem and they had to come back three times to fix it. I ended up paying a bunch of money just because I had to bring it up to codes. I also had to pay $1000 for Freon. I also had a water heater go out. The guy who came and put it in was fine, but it took forever to get the approval to get it done and again pay several hundred dollars for changing the lines and soldering. I pay them money to have it covered but I end up paying junk fees.
The problem is I can’t get pass one level in their company. Everybody stonewalls you and is unresponsive to the customer. They do not have adequate people to handle the problems as well as adequate procedures to resolve a problem when it exists. Once I sell my house next year, I don't know if I’ll ever use American Home Shield again. I've had them for 25 years in the houses I've had and they make me feel like, "Your stuff will start breaking. Let's see if we can make him quit American Home Shield, so we don't have to pay anything."

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for our air conditioner and I had to wait about an hour for a representative to come on the line. It was ridiculous. They should get somebody to answer the phones quicker. The first time, the mechanic Johnson came and he charged my husband $80, aside from the $75 service fee, because he said the air conditioner had a maintenance issue and that the coil needed cleaning. Everything was done and he checked that my air filter was working. He said it was okay and he put it back. However, the system didn't need cleaning because I've only had it for about a year or so and it was a fairly new system. I got back home by 8 that night and the air conditioner still wasn't working.
I called American Home Shield back and Johnson came back. He told my husband we needed Freon when we didn't. I told him the air conditioner still wasn't working and he told me everything was fine. He couldn't figure it out so he got back in his truck and left. So I called American Home Shield and they said they were going to bring Johnson back but I didn't want him back out and I told them to give me somebody else. However, they said I had to stick with Johnson because they haven't got his report back and they couldn't send somebody else until then. But I didn't care about the report and I didn't want him back to my house because I feel like he ripped my husband off because my husband has Parkinson's.
When they got the report, they called me back and Johnson told them everything was fine but I told them that wasn't true. They sent out Myers out of Birmingham and he told me the house was not getting air circulation because Johnson had put the filter back in wrong. The system outside was running fine as well and it didn’t need any Freon. I asked him what it was that Johnson cleaned and charged my husband for and he pointed out the coil which was the vent that sticks out. It's outside all the time and that's what he cleaned out. He blew it out and charged my husband for it. American Home Shield couldn’t give my $80 back but they reimbursed me the $75 service fee. It took me five days to get my air conditioning fixed and it was hot, but it is running fine now. It was great when the problem was solved. I'd recommend American Home Shield and they shouldn't go up on the service fees anymore.

I have been giving American Home Shield a very poor rating over the last 2 years. Because of issues we had with them that cost us over $1,000 out of pocket. No one at American Home Shield would give us the time of day, be sympathetic, or even look into this issue. Until finally a gentleman by the name of Dinkard **. He listened, and got in touch with me and got the issue resolved. We received a check for $700 which is short of the $1,000 we had to pay out of pocket but better than nothing. So after 2 years of this battle he got this result for us thank you so much! Would I go back to American Home Shield, never. But at least he helped us resolve this and I thank him for that.

I do not recommend American Home Shield to anyone!

I have someone else living in my home and she raved about the contractor and said that he was the best one she's ever had. The air conditioner is now working fine since the repair. I like the convenience of the plan. It’s nice to be able to call and just to know that you’re going to pay that deductible for whatever the problem is. The downside is if it’s something minor and it wouldn’t have normally cost that much. I've also had visits before where the contractors weren’t very nice. But otherwise, I haven't had any problem. I've had American Home Shield since April . My air conditioner stopped working on Sunday. This is my fourth time submitting a claim for that AC because I keep having trouble with it. Submitting a claim with AHS was not an easy process and it was very time-consuming. I didn't get a call from them, and I called and stayed on hold for an hour on Monday. I was getting ready for work and took a shower and did everything I could while on hold. They may have figured that it was me on hold because that was when I was called by the contractor. I've had the same contractor every time. The claim has been resolved and the unit is working now, but it was hot for three days because the earliest the contractor could come out was on Wednesday. The contractor recommended a new compressor, but we haven't begun on that claim yet.
I've also sent an email to AHS about another AC problem that we had. I put the message in through email because I can't speak through the system when online. The system doesn't allow me to and I have to communicate via email or write to AHS. This time, I had to go to a plumber. However, the plumber never showed up, but I still was charged, and I couldn't see why I was charged for service that I didn't receive. I want a refund. I've gone through my emails from AHS to see if I got a receipt for that service call, but I can't find the receipt and that just means that I never received any service, and I want to call somebody at AHS about that matter.
When I talked with the guy from the plumbing company, he said that he couldn't do the repair and he had knocked on my door and he didn't want to get back there. But I told him how could he have done that when I was literally sitting there at the door waiting for him. I will recommend AHS, but the communication with them is definitely horrible.

I just bought a house and that's how I got American Home Shield. Recently, I tried to get them to come out to look at the installation of my hot water heater. They're supposed to cover improper installation but they said that the warranty doesn't cover the venting. They said they wouldn't come out so they refunded the $75 that I paid. It happened with my first claim too. I called a plumber to look at the refrigerator. It's also called an improper installation so they were going around the things that they don't cover. I've called to file a claim but it's easier to get a hold of them online. But, I've had American Home Shield warranties before with another house and a condo that I purchased and they used to go better if you call them on the phone because you don't go through paying $75 for the service call. Then, you'll find out that it's not going to be covered. So, I'll always call from now on.
I had only one technician that come out there and he explained all the things that he couldn't do. He talked about all sorts of different things but he couldn't fix them. However, he was all right, fine, very nice and knowledgeable. He fixed a leak under my sink even though he wasn't supposed to and that seemed to be fine. The one before was cancelled and nobody ever came.
The thing about home warranties is that they have so many different little packages. When I bought my house we requested for them to get a home warranty up to $600 and they chose the cheapest package they could get. It only covered major things like the heat and air and the water heater, which was brand new. It didn't cover tons of stuff. There were also some other things you can add on so it's too confusing. A few years back, it was not quite so pick and choose but now, you choose and pick too many things.

One of the faucet stuff on the toilet popped off and broke while we were at work so when we got home and walked down the hallway, our shoes were covered in water. We panicked and did an emergency call to Montgomery Water Works. They turned the water off in order to do the repair, and we were cleaning and getting a wet vac as well. So we had done a lot before thinking to call the insurance company, but when I called American Home Shield a couple of days later to put in the claim, it was very easy. They had someone come out last Monday to check the water damage, and a contractor is coming out tomorrow, Friday.

My husband and I have been faithfully paying American Home Shield monthly for more than a year now, but our experience with them was horrible. I am very disappointed with the company for several reasons. My AC wasn’t working and AHS sent someone to fix it. This gentleman looked at it and said everything was fine but I insisted that it’s 87 degrees upstairs in my house. He said that he turned it off and turned it back on and everything’s working fine. Two hours later, it was still 87 degrees in my house.
I told him to come back and he did after two days. He then said that we needed to change the filter. So we went to Home Depot to buy new filters. We came back and put them in but it was still 87 degrees in my house. The same guy returned for the third time. He went to the attic and back outside and said we had some cross wires and that’s where the heat was coming from. I then asked why he wasn’t able to get it figured out the first time. He tried to explain, but by then, I no longer understood what was going on. I told him that he goes home and has a working AC while I have to suffer. He then told me that he got the AC working, but two days later, it went out again.
I was really pissed at this point and called American Home Shield. It didn’t help that they’re very hard to contact, so it’s also hard to get them to reschedule and get somebody to back in here. I had to wait on the phone for 30-40 minutes and if I hang up, I will miss the queue. I would then have to start all over again. It also took them two to three days to come back to my house.
When I finally got hold of them, I said that the gentleman from the company they sent wasn’t doing anything to fix the problem. In addition to the $125 that we paid for the service call with the first company, the guy said that we need to have the unit serviced. So my husband paid an additional 200 dollars to that person. I asked AHS to get me somebody else but they told me that it will be another $125 which wasn’t fair because it’s not my issue. I told them I’m paying a certain amount of money every month and if the provider they are sending cannot fix the problem, then I shouldn’t have to pay another person to come to my house. American Home Shield didn’t take my calls for another three days and I couldn’t get them to call me back. When they finally called my husband, they were insisting that they have been trying to call me.
Meanwhile, the second company called on a Monday said they couldn’t come out until Saturday because they were having a lot of issues with ACs. At this point, I’ve been dealing with this air conditioner issue for three weeks. I told them that I totally understand. The lady said they got my appointment between 12:00 and 5:00 and I told them I’ll make sure to be home. That Saturday, I got a text from American Home Shield at 6:18 in the afternoon that the contractor canceled my scheduled appointment.
I got another phone call while visiting my son in Denver. After introducing who they were and trying to schedule an appointment, I learned that it was the third company from AHS. So I asked if they could come the next day because I was not home at that time. The gentleman came and now, he’s telling me about all these water that’s in my reservoir. He asked how long it has been there, and I said from day one when the first person who looked at the air conditioner came. He then asked if the person never came upstairs and sucked the water out from the pan. I said he had done nothing.
It wasn’t the first time I had this experience from American Home Shield. We had a broken pipe before and someone came. I paid $125 for that person to walk around the house only to tell us that they don’t do exterior pipes and that we have to find somebody else to do it. But what really upset me along with everything that was going on was that there was no feedback and no one calling to check, plus the mere fact I was on the phone for an hour and five minutes listening to that stupid recording but nobody picked up the phone.

American Home Shield repaired my water heater. I had a fine experience dealing with them. They were able to help me get a technician quickly. They had to order a part. It took them about three days to get it but there was no problem. The water heater was still working so there wasn't any problem at all. I've had American Home Shield for about 5 years now and we've had several claims with them and they all worked out real good. I really enjoy having them as a contractor and I'd highly recommend them.

The air conditioner stopped working this summer and submitting a claim with AHS was frustrating. I couldn't get back to anybody because we didn't know who they were going to send. Then the people they sent were supposed to come out within 24 hours, but they didn't come out for about 72 hours. They were fine once they got here though. The end result was good.

My ceiling fans were making an awful noise and I couldn’t get two of them to come on. So I called AHS and the guy they sent out was very professional. He was one of the better technicians that had ever been to my house. He explained what the problem was and what he was going to do to rectify the problem. Once he got the ceiling fans done, he made sure that we went to each and every room to show me what he had done and the part that he had installed that corrected the problem. After the repair, the ceiling fans' performance was A-1. I was very satisfied with that recent service. Overall, American Home Shield is a great company and I like them.

We recently completed a claim last week to have a replacement washing machine put in. The worst thing is getting through to American Home Shield because one could be on hold for as long as 40 minutes and that's not a good thing. I've been with them for years and we've never had that experience before. But once you get someone on the line, it's fine. The technician who came was very good. There was some disconnect with the person that we had contracted with, so it took about six weeks to get this done versus a couple of days. They dropped some files or didn't code it properly so we had to call, but it's all done. We also had a dryer that we got fixed right away. It's doing good and it's drying the things that weren't drying before. Overall I would use American Home Shield again.

My AC's fan blower went out so I submitted a claim for it. I did it online and it was very easy and stress-free. The website was easy to navigate. The contractors that AHS sent out were very professional and knowledgeable about what needed to be fixed. They didn't have the part, but as soon as they got it, they came right out and fixed it up for us. Since the repair, the AC has been excellent. I hope I don't have to use them again but I'm glad they're there if I do.

My experience with AHS was very nerve-racking. I've been in this house 17 years, used AHS for 15 to 17 ‘cause I never even heard of any home warranty when I first moved in here and I've never had a problem with them until now. I had plumbing issues and it's funny because of this one company they sent out. When they left, my other toilet was dripping and right now, my roof is stained from the water. I called AHS and made another claim but I went with another company, I wasn’t too happy with the first company that they sent out. This first company went to fix my leak in my master bedroom. The technician came out and told me that my bowl was cracked and had to be replaced. He showed me some pictures but I couldn’t see what he was trying to get me to see.
I went out of town but before I left, he told me that AHS will be in touch with me. When I came back, nobody had called me so I called AHS first. They called the contractor then American Home Shield called me and told me that they couldn’t replace the toilet bowl because it wasn’t from normal wear and tear. I had no idea what she was talking about and she made it seem like I was responsible for breaking or cracking the bowl. I was so disappointed with this particular plumbing company. American Home Shield was supposed to send something out where the other company would come out and look at it, but they never did that.
Then another company came out and they were working on my other bathroom. I like them including the guy that came out. He was very professional and courteous with everything. AHS called me and wanted me to do a follow-up. I said that I got this other guy that they sent me and I'll have him to look at it and tell me what's what. He looked at it and said the only thing that he's seen there was a little crack. When the other company put the new bolts in, it cracked it. He said whoever put it in, they put it in too tight, and that’s what cracked it. Still, I couldn’t see any crack, but I'm going by what he tells me. He said it didn’t have to be replaced. Some other lady from American Shield called me and we got into an argument because what I was getting from her was that I was responsible for the crack on the toilet seat and ended hanging up on her. I'm through with American Home Shield.

Something went wrong with the garage door and I submitted the claim over the phone. The contractor asked for a very high price. He wanted $300. He said the sensor and the motor were not working and that American Home Shield doesn't cover the garage door motor. I asked how come there was electricity if they were not working. Sometimes the contractor American Home Shield sends out just tells people something to make money for their pocket. I called somebody else and he fixed it and he only took $75 service fee. We found out that the part was covered. Also when I called I was on hold for an hour and 15 minutes till they answered. But the rep was nice and she apologized for the wait. So overall they're good. I recommend AHS.

I used American Home Shield on a kitchen microwave repair and the claim submittal was flawless. It went quick even though my senior executive adviser told me to expect a long hold online or on the telephone. Two gentlemen from Sears Home Repair came out and they were very friendly. One was an office worker that was just out on a ride along and I told them what I thought the problem was. The young technicians went about fixing and the office worker was mostly talking to me and my wife. He's just been bringing the microwave down and putting it back up. But something happened during that period. The office worker went out in front of the house outside to get better cell reception. He must have called back to the office. We had to go so we told them to put the microwave back together. They put it back on the wall and we thought they had fixed it all.
But then hours later we found out that the microwave didn't work when we went through it. The internal light was emanating from areas that it should not be emanating from. I had to call back to American Home Shield and to Sears Home Repair. I told them that they didn't put it back together properly. That was 4th of July weekend. We had to wait over a long weekend before somebody could come back out. Then someone who was knowledgeable came out and he identified that the shield over the light was not replaced properly without pulling the microwave off the wall. He fixed everything and he was in and out.
I'm happy with the call center people that I've interacted with. I talked to a young guy a number of times after the first visit and he was conscientious about taking down every word that I said of the situation, what was wrong, and what hasn't been done. I would recommend AHS but with some caveats. I'm cautiously optimistic that we will continue to have an overall positive experience going forward.

American Home Shield took forever to get somebody to come out to my house when something went wrong. They don’t have somebody in the area that can service me or the people that can service me are three days backed up. I couldn’t get anybody on the phone so I had to submit a claim online for my air conditioner. I then called back and spoke with somebody. I waited on hold for 30 minutes before I got to a live person but once I did, they were nice. The problem is that they either don’t have enough contractors that work for them or the contractors they have are not from the area and they had to drive in to get to the area.
The contractors were very nice and courteous. They ended up fixing my problem but it’s always in the summer when the air conditioner is broken and it takes five days for somebody to come out. It’s nerve-wracking when something like my air conditioner breaks and I’m in Georgia in a 100-degree heat. There isn’t a sense of urgency. They were great with the other issues I’ve had. My disposal broke and they got somebody out and fixed it. The part they sucked at was the heating and the air conditioner and it happened two years in a row. Both times they didn’t have a contractor in the city so I had to get somebody outside the city. I could never get anybody to call me over the weekend or in the evening and it was frustrating.

They speeded it up because it was my water and someone was out here within 24 hours so the experience was great.
I want to use that service personnel again if I ever have any problems. He was very professional and accurate. He was anxious to get the heater fixed to ensure that I had hot water by the end of the day. Even though I have an older pump, he was able to find what he needed. When my AC unit backed up again, it leaked to my ceiling. We had to get people to come dry the house out and I had to call my son’s company to get that taken care of. But no one from American Home Shield ever came out. Nobody called me back and I called again, put in the work order and still nobody came out. My husband was very upset because we had water everywhere from the AC backing up. We had to have our AC and we could not continue to wait on AHS. So he called someone else to take care of it. The AC is now working but he had to pay.
In my history with AHS, the technicians were out all the time about the AC but they never fixed it correctly. I'm a breast cancer survivor and I can't be in the heat, but every time we called someone out for our AC, AHS continues to send people who don't know what's wrong. The AC keeps backing up and it's been a mess. One guy put up a thermostat and didn’t even know how to show me how to use it. My house went up to 94 degrees inside when he left. I didn't have a good experience with the technicians except with the one named Mike. He's the only one who's been able to fix the problems or give us some type of relief when something happened. I've had a great interaction with him and I really appreciated him being honest and taking care of the problem.
Also, some of the young ladies at AHS are rude. About a couple of months ago, I had to keep calling them because nobody was calling me back saying that I'm scheduled with anybody. I wasn’t getting any information from the air condition place and they also didn’t know what I was talking about because they had not received the call from AHS. So I called AHS back and the young lady at customer service was very rude and I was very upset with that. I've had American Home Shield for 10 years and I'm not pleased with the service that we've been getting recently. We've been thinking about cancelling and going with another warranty company.

I did American Home Shield's automated phone system for my leaking hot water heater and the contractor that they sent out was nice. AHS sends out good and reliable contractors. We've been a member with them for at least six years and we've hardly had any issue with somebody not showing. My only issue with them is that our rate increases every year. It has gone up about $200 since we have first started with AHS which is a tremendous amount. AHS raises it $5 to $10 every time. The renewal does not say that they had increases in time. If I was a new customer I could probably get it cheaper than I could as an existing customer. That's aggravating because loyalty should play a part.

The first time we called American Home Shield was when the refrigerator went out, and the scheduler was not very nice. Dealing with some of the people on the phone was not pleasant. We've had four calls with AHS already, and I just found it's easier and faster to go online than to call on the phone. But all the service people have been great. We've also had a garbage disposal replaced because it was leaking in the cabinet and the washing machine was leaking inside. Recently, our air conditioner was leaking on the garage so we filed a claim with AHS, and it works fine now. The pipe was just clogged with algae. Overall, AHS is fine. Unfortunately, it's not the same when I can call somebody on my own. A lot of times I get somebody local and they come right out. But when I have to go through AHS, it takes four or five days.

American Home Shield's hold times are insane. We'd be on hold on the phone for 45 minutes before anyone picks it up. That's definitely something that AHS should change, although the reps tried to be helpful to the best of their ability. I had some plumbing issues and the plumbers had to come to my house three times because of a computer mess-up. They were not great but they got the job done.
The people who worked behind the scenes and the contractor were not nice. I did not want them to continue with the service, but since they had already been contracted and had started on the job, AHS wouldn't change them. They were rude and kept telling me that AHS quoted wrongly, but they wouldn't call AHS to ask for a correct quote. They could just have sent over an email to AHS to fix the quote, but they refused to do that and instead wasted a lot of my time. Everything needed a phone call and I had to make four calls, wait 45 minutes each time, and stay home from work because AHS couldn't get things right.
But the service person who came to my home to do the repair was very pleasant and courteous. He wasn't just in and out but really went the extra mile. After he did the job, I noticed that the color of the part was wrong and it wasn't the same as it had been before. He had actually tried to change the color to the correct one, but that didn't work well with the piece, so he changed it back. He went out of his way and really tried, and I appreciated that he wanted to make me happy. Everything's back to normal since the repair and I'm glad it's done. Apart from that, AHS has some service providers who are nice to work with and with whom I'm very happy, and when I have regular appliance issues I always request the same ones. All in all, the experience we had with AHS wasn't such a big hassle and I would recommend them.

They really worked hard to steer you toward online but when I finally got to a computer it was easy enough. Once you get through the claim the rest is wonderful. The only issue we have with American Home Shield is that they're very hard to get a hold of. It took me two days to get a hold of them. You only have so much time when you're working because you're on hold for minimum 45 minutes to an hour to get a live person. The online thing works great, though. We went online and set up the appointments but they set it up with a contractor that didn't service our area. They were nice enough to call me, though, and show me that.
I understand that summer is busy but I had a water heater leaking. When AHS finally got the right plumber to do the water heater, they were wonderful. Also, I loved the air conditioning contractors who came to our house. As soon as AHS found somebody in my area, they came right out and then fixed my appliance the very next day. They were wonderful but they didn't get paid for a long time. Because AHS took the first contractor, they never paid the second contractor. They were sending me emails and notices but that was never my call. Overall, my experience with AHS has been positive for the service but negative with the communication.

I purchased a home, air conditioner leaked, they sent out a vendor that wrongfully told the insurance that there was something missing in my air conditioner. The tech wrote on his documents that the air conditioner was missing an outlet receptacle. Well, if you don’t already know, all hard wired air conditioners don’t have a receptacle or a cord with a plug.... that’s why they are called hard wired. Then calling in to get service was the worst. At least 45 minutes or longer every time I called. Nice to see that you can file your claim online… but when your claim is wrongfully denied you have to talk to someone… good luck. These guys are crooks. If you want a home warranty, look somewhere else. BTW: this warranty was tagged on to my escrow somehow… it wasn’t my choice.

They try to find a technicality within your contract to make it not covered. I am beyond frustrated with this company. I have a specialty item at my home they try to not cover because it is not inside the four walls of the home. It is illegal in my state to have this item inside the home. They have covered before. They have sent multiple companies to my home to work on it. It is attached to the home. I am again advising to find any of Home Warranty company. It is not worth the aggravation of the last 3 weeks of saying one thing, then doing another.

We have had 4 repairs that were needed. Three were for the A/C. One for the washer. All took over a week to repair. Two we paid out of pocket to get fixed because it was so delayed in being fixed. We need A/C in July in Las Vegas with little kids. The first repair was poorly done and repairman had to return two extra times to fix it correctly. He installed the fan backwards. Lol. We requested a new company but they send the same one.
We needed a new control panel for the washer and it is going to take more than two weeks for AHS to order the part for the company doing the repair. I waited on phone for over an hour for someone to talk to at AHS just to find out our part was going to take another week to get. Very unhappy with the service. I will be canceling my service. You aren't allowed to talk to a supervisor. They say someone will call me back in 24hrs. We'll see if that happens. For all the premiums I've paid plus the 75.00 copay and 50$ to go to the Laundromat for two weeks this is ridiculous. Don't waste your time or money on this company.

As I'm starting to type this review, I am currently on hold waiting to talk to a representative with American Home Shield. Timer says 44 minutes right now. This is normal. If you need to talk to someone, expect to wait 45 minutes or more. If everything goes smoothly, and repairs get done on time and if they get done right the first time, then you don't need to call. Don't need to speak with a representative. You can request service online, then the local contractor will contact you. However, there have been some issues where I have needed to contact customer support. I've had to call maybe 10 times since I've had the warranty. Including calling for this one issue four times. (Later in this review I will explain my current issue.) I've been with American Home Shield for over a year now. We pay our monthly contract dues (around 50 bucks), then pay $100 for every new issue that requires service. Is it worth it? Maybe.
Financially it has been worth it for us. We live in an older home. The warranty covers a lot of things, but we've run into things that it didn't cover. For instance, if you need an older refrigerant in your A/C, they only cover a small amount. For another instance, we had a water heater go out. The warranty paid for the water heater (yay) but didn't pay for the work that it took to get up to current code. We ended up paying 7-8 hundred bucks, plus the $100 service call. But for most things, I think it is good that we have had this service. I'm thinking about changing to another company though (56 minutes and still waiting on hold). What am I calling about now? We had a plumbing leak in master bathroom sink. I went online to request service. For some reason, the plumber could not get to me quickly.
I thought leak was coming from air conditioner upstairs, and that it was leaking into our bedroom through the walls, as we have had that problem before. Anyway, by the time the plumber could come out, our carpet was soaked (no, the carpet was not covered under the warranty). So the plumber fixed the problem, but he had to cut a hole in our bedroom wall to get to the pipes. Repairing the hole is covered under the warranty. A different contractor is supposed to come out to repair the hole. We waited a week and nobody contacted us or came. So I called American Home Shield (yes, and waited nearly an hour to talk to someone). They said that they had to have a report of some kind from the plumber, and that they would reach out to the plumber to get the report. They told me that I didn't need to do anything else, and that the next communication I would get would be from the new contractor coming to fix my issue.
Well, two months later, and four phone calls later, we have not received word from anyone about the issue. I keep getting assurances that the matter will be handled, but as of now, OVER TWO MONTHS LATER, the problem is not resolved. So I am calling again. (Currently one hour and five minutes on hold.) So unacceptable. Especially when it is THEIR FAULT that my issue is not resolved. The onus should be on them, not on me to keep calling. I bet if I was calling to purchase a home warranty my call would have been answered in no time. I started out this review giving two stars. I'm reducing to one star. Having to wait on hold this long for a customer service-oriented company is just not right. Anytime. But this is not an anomaly. This is what I have to put up with anytime I need to contact them. One hour and 11 minutes, and still on hold, waiting to speak to a rep.
Updated on 10/17/2017: American Home Shield disputed my claim about them, even though we were still in active communication about my issue that is still unresolved. When they disputed it, my one-star rating for this company disappeared, and now, instead of my one-star rating, it says "No Response Received." That is simply not true. Now that my one star was taken away, the company has not responded to me as they promised they would in their last message to me.

The part didn't work, turned out the fix was going to require pre-approval from AHS. I have not received a call, email or text from AHS since. I have spent 1-3 hours on the phone each day for them to tell me the job will be escalated, and that I will hear from someone the next day. Then I don't. I understand that the hurricane exacerbated the availability issue, but 7 days after a repairman visitor and we have NO PLAN to go forward? I'm in Georgia, it's August. Are we talking months? I NEED TO KNOW. The lack of communication is unnecessary and it's starting to look like extending my warranty next year will not be of benefit AT ALL. So, I thought I'd share as a warning to others.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and back in June parts had to be ordered for my air conditioner and condenser. When the contractor came to fit it in I was told I was going to pay extra for Freon which was fine. It would have cost me about $400 out of my pocket but he asked if the Freon could be taken out of my air conditioner because it's still good. He said it could be done and it was good. He took it out and put it back into my unit. However about a week after the unit started making a rattling noise. As it continued it got worse and worse to the point I thought it was going to blow up outside. I called the people that worked on it and they said I have to call American Home Shield so I did.
The little girl that talked to me was very helpful. She got on the phone with her supervisor with me put on hold and came back and said that it was guaranteed. The problem was the way they had situated my air conditioning unit on my concrete slab. The copper wiring was vibrating against the copper. If that had continued it could have destroyed the copper so he got that fixed. And I noticed that the other night so I went out and just moved it slightly to make sure the pieces weren't on the concrete rattling, vibrating. Ever since I did that everything seems to be fine.
The only problem we had was when I called back on the second one for them to recall it. They tried to assign me to somebody that's four hours away. So I called back and asked why they would change the people that worked on my air conditioner who are 15 minutes away. The rep just put me on hold, put it as a recall with her supervisor and then everything was fine. So they need to learn to look at their location. I have to wait to get through them and then happened to stay on hold for quite a while before I get through again. Otherwise I'm fine. They usually take care of me.

My air conditioning unit was not working entirely and I told my wife to contact American Home Shield. Everything went well and the air conditioner has been working fine since having it repaired.

I've had American Home Shield for about 19 years and I've had a good experience with them. But, of late, things aren't going so well. It's harder to get through to them on the phone with the one-hour wait and many times, the norm is at least 30 minutes. Also, I have an issue with them that I couldn't get resolved and I was told that it was, yet nothing has been done. I had a service repair when my air conditioner quit. I went online and put my debit card on file so that they can take the copay deductible when they come out. While waiting for them to come out, I had another service request and they sent the same servicer to do both. He repaired the air conditioner and looked at my ductwork insulation. My paperwork said ductwork was covered but I didn't know what part of it. He took pictures and said, “If they authorize it, I'll come back and fix it." After about a month, when we checked the paperwork, we found out that ductwork insulation was not covered.
I had to put $75 to ductwork against that repair as well and they had done nothing but look at it. I called AHS and asked if I’m supposed to pay $150 for one service call. A man named Tyler told me that I shouldn't have to pay $75 two times when they only came out once. He also said I’ll get a refund, but I got nothing. When I called back, a lady named Karen said that there's no record that I’ll get a refund. I've been on the phone for about an hour and it's hard to find that out. American Home Shield should improve their customer relations and show me that they wouldn't do this just for me. Having someone to answer the phone quicker would help. They should also be straightforward and tell me if they’re not going to refund my money because $75 is not going to make or break me. If I shouldn’t have to copay twice then they should refund me the money and not give me the runaround. All in all, that last claim experience was not very good.
Chuck,

I had a problem with the control panel for my dryer so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I did it online, but they wanted a credit card and I don’t believe in that so I called. They still wanted a credit card but I said I wasn’t giving it over the phone. So, they found somebody that would come out and take a check on the service call, but it took three to four days to send a contractor and another week for the part to come in. However, they were courteous, and the technician was excellent.
Also, I've been with them for 10 years and in the beginning, it was a little difficult but it has gotten better. I had several claim experiences and one of the repairs was AC work and they didn't want to fix it. So, they offered us a buyout but the price was not good. Once I even called them and they came for refrigerator repair but never showed back up, so I had to call them again and they got somebody else to do the repair. Overall, AHS is good when they're needed.

American Home Shield is a great company. They're a lot better than Choice Home. Our most recent claim with them was for our refrigerator. It would cool a little and then stop. And then finally, it just quit cooling. Submitting the claim wasn't too bad. We called AHS to check the refrigerator out for us. The service guy who came out was a local business man and he was fabulous. He found that the part needed was no longer available. So, he researched to see if an after-market part would work. It took us a bit but it wasn't the service guy's fault. He was able to fix the refrigerator and he's done a good job. We had a refrigerator in our boat house at the back of our home. Because the refrigerator has been repaired, we don’t have to walk down there to get food.

I have only used the warranty twice and the contractors were really nice and professional. But both times American Home Shield did not cover whatever the problem was. The latest claim was for a leak in my yard, which I think is coming from the meter and has been there for a while. The contractor unclogged some drains in the house, which helped, but that was it. It's been frustrating and disappointing. American Home Shield sucks and now I’m looking for a new company.

My air conditioner went out. It took a while for somebody to come because it's summer in Alabama and busy. But the contractor that AHS sent was very nice and professional. He called and told me that he was on his way and it was around 9:00 at night. He got here at 9:45, fixed it in 30 minutes and then he was on his way. He was very good and I would use him again. The performance of the unit has been excellent since the repair. American Home Shield sent somebody who knew what he was doing and got it fixed. So, I'm happy with the experience.

I had a leaking faucet then I had blockages in the air conditioner and it was leaking. I submitted claims over the phone to AHS but I can't speak to a human anymore every time I call the phone service. They had also changed the way that I pay and I now have to pay them for the service fee upfront. But then when the man came, they charged me a service fee because they said they didn't get any messages for it.
When I called American Express, the rep said that I shouldn’t have given them the money so she had to call the people back to come and bring my money back then said she was going to call me the next day. But she never called back to clear anything up. It was very frustrating for a long time. Then the same thing happened with the next person who came the next time, but that time I didn't pay them and they worked it out with AHS. AHS should put the information in time for the people who would do service. Other than the service fee issue, I've got no problems with the contractors and they've all been good.

I hate to have to call American Home Shield. I've been on hold twice in a row for over an hour and I hung up because I couldn't wait any longer. Their online service sucks and they need to put more people to answer the phone because having a customer waiting to talk to a person is just ridiculous. But in general I had a good experience with American Home Shield. My washer was not draining properly and I filed a claim online. The service was very good and I was very pleased with the contractor that came here. He fixed the part that he could fix and then he had to order another part. I got a phone call today from the company saying that the parts have been ordered and will be here within three to five business days.

My air conditioner was not working and with American Home Shield, if something is not working, they send somebody and they fix it. The people at AHS were friendly. The only drawback is that they're very busy and the waiting time during calls is too long, but contacting them is easy to do online. The contractors and I had a very good interaction. They give me a range of time so they're always on time. The air conditioner is working fine since the repair and they fixed whatever was going wrong. Overall, the experience with AHS was all good.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim because my central air unit wasn’t working. Interactions with the reps were good. The contractors were nice and they did a great job on the repair. I like American Home Shield although I used to have a problem with it.

I had a great experience with the contractor American Home Shield sent for my air conditioner. My AC stopped working so I submitted a claim online. I already figured out what’s the issue before the contractor came out and I wasn’t getting voltage down to my meter. It ended up being a fuse in the transformer that was bad on my air conditioner and the guy got it back up and running. He was in and out.

I used American Home Shield for my faucet leaks and heat tap problems. The heat tap started three days before they came and the faucet leak had started about a week before. I just can't get around to calling AHS. The contractors who AHS sent were good. I was very pleased and I have no problems with everything that they fixed. I'm happy that the people who came are qualified for the problems that I had. AHS is accommodating. They're a really good company.
