I filed a claim over the phone to American Home Shield for our clothes dryer. Their representative was knowledgeable this time. The contractor was great and didn't stay long but she said she would have to order a new part and would be back about a week when it was shipped to our house. She came back and installed and my clothes dryer has since been working fine. I’ve had some problems with AHS in the past but they end up fixing everything.

I've had American Home Shield for 14 years and the person that helped me get started was excellent. They followed up when I needed an issue addressed or taken care of. Overall, I've been happy with their service except for the problem with the plumbing. I placed a call for a plumber and I'm given the runaround, nobody is showing up at all. It's been three months now.

The refrigerator stopped getting cold so I submitted a claim to AHS online, which was easy to do. The repair guy called a couple of hours later after I put my claim and he came out the next day. He looked at the refrigerator, assessed the problem, and told me what he was going to do. I'm still in the process because it hasn’t been fixed yet. We're waiting on two parts that he ordered to come in. He came out last Friday and said that it would take a couple of days. He temporarily got the refrigerator working and told me he would call me yesterday, but he did not. The parts were supposed to be in yesterday but I haven't heard from him yet. But so far, the experience has been fine. I'm not going to give them the fit because it hadn't been that long now. Maybe they didn’t come in yesterday and come in today, or maybe they're going to call me tomorrow. If he would not call me by Monday, then we'll start getting a little worried.

Just today, I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a faulty wire that’s hooked up to my oven. Everything went smoothly. But the first claim was absolutely horrible. We purchased an older home about a month ago and had a two-year home warranty. Trying to get resolution, we waited on the phone for an hour every time we called. It had me wondering that if the coverage was actually a sham and if it was worth the money. And they could care less about customer service. Some of the women that I spoke with were absolutely horrible, they acted like they hated people.

Then the plumbers were absolutely horrible too. The ones they partner with here in Birmingham always fail in rating if you look at the Better Business Bureau. And the guy that came out to do the plumbing, he recommended a solution that would’ve flooded my house. And so, I ended up getting a second opinion which I’m paying for. They contacted a company that they had a relationship previously and I’ve still got to get reimbursed for it. Though I’m not sure I’ll get it. I haven’t had the time ‘cause when you call into their number, you’re going to be waiting for 30, 40 minutes to get a hold of some neurotic fellow.

AHS need people in customer service that actually have customer service skills and understand that, purchasing their product is the reason that they have a job. Being without the use of your bathroom for a week, that’s unacceptable. And they got no compassion for getting anything done. Also, look at the people they partner with. If you partner with somebody that’s flunking on the Better Business Bureau, I’m not having them into my house. So, the coverage for me is actually useless because I’m not having some guy come in that is not properly trained and would cause more problems than he does correcting them.

I had an AC situation and submitting the claim to American Home Shield was pretty easy. I called the phone number there and it took me to a bunch of prompts that were quick. There weren't tons of numbers. You just got to talk in plain English and tell them what your problem was and then they take you out where you needed to go. At the end of it, I was told that a contractor would be calling within 24 hours. I’ve had two contractors out here for the AC and they’re all good guys. Since then, our AC’s been running well again.

However, when I was trying to get ahold of somebody there to ask a question once, I couldn't get in the prompts. When I finally did, my wait time was gonna be 45 minutes so I never really got ahold of anybody at that point. I hope there was an option to speak directly to a person. My wife got ahold of somebody through email though so that was the best way. Other than that, I've been satisfied and would be a repeat customer.

I had a problem with my air conditioner. The service people came out, looked at it, said that the outside condensing unit needed to be replaced, and they have to contact American Home Shield to let them know. They suggested we do the "buy out" where AHS would pay a certain amount towards the unit. I talked to American Home Shield two or three times. They said that we needed to talk to the people at the vendors. I told them nobody was there. They've got the information. They came out even the second time to look at it to be sure they had the full information on what type it was. I even called them once to see if I could browse them up a little bit. I was on hold and the lady came back on the line a good bit later and said, "I haven't gotten anything yet but just hang on because we're going to get in touch with them today." But that's the last I've heard of it and that's when I wrote the whole thing off.

AHS never completed the repair. I got another company to come out and replace the whole unit after waiting three to four days. They owe me for some vile amount for an air conditioner because it was covered at the time of the problem. I did all I could do to make sure they're managed but they dropped the ball and I've been given the runaround. But he air conditioner is working great now and I'm happy camper, no thanks to American Home Shield.

We were leaking underneath the sinks and I didn’t know if it was the actual sink, the disposal or the connection, so I called American Home Shield. My husband wasn’t answering the door when the contractor came so I told the guy to use the garage door. Within five minutes, the leak was fixed and he just had to lock the door when he left. It cost me $100 for a $5 job, but the gentleman that came was wonderful.

We had a bad experience with AHS on Christmas when we had a leak out to underneath our refrigerator. We had called them and they sent out a company who spliced the refrigerator line instead of replacing it. Six months later, we had flooding in our bedroom that we thought was coming from outside until I made my husband dig up some landscaping. It was Christmas Eve so we had this restore company called NWA Restore-It come out because we thought it was from the rain coming in. But it wasn't from there so the guy from NWA went around in the kitchen, pulled the refrigerator, and found out the refrigerator line was spewing water. We put in a claim with our insurance but then we really felt like that company sent by American Home Shield should be charged. We contacted our insurance company and told them we want our $1,000 homeowners fee. We never put in a claim in the 30 years we’ve been married so we had a $1,000 deductible.

The contractor came back for that a week later. They ended up replacing another part on our refrigerator, not just the one that was leaking. But because they replaced another part too, our insurance company didn’t feel they have any recourse to go after that company. They ended up okay with all the settlement from our insurance. That was a bad deal so I called American Home Shield and complained. They said it was the same company that came out both times for that particular problem.

I’m afraid to cancel my contract with American Home Shield because my husband does not fix anything. We’re not mechanical and my husband’s disabled and I don’t have the time. It’s worth it for me to have the peace of mind to have American Home Shield but I need to know that they are reputable people. I don’t have much confidence in American Home Shield that they’re going to stand by me. They seem like they want to protect their people that work with them. Overall, I’m fine with using American Home Shield because they can get somebody out right away.

On the other hand, I got a phone call telling me that because it was maintenance, it wasn’t covered, but they covered it. The whole purpose to me in buying American Home Shield as a new home buyer was for protection. I have no control of whether or not the previous owner maintained it or not. I don't know why that even was an issue. Other than that, as a realtor, I recommended their service a few times. It's worth the investment.

I was having some issues with my air conditioner and it wasn’t turning off for some reason. The outside unit would turn off, but the inside would not. Also, the fan's set on, but it was constantly cold and freezing. So I called AHS up, did the claim online and paid the copay. It’s awesome that I could just click, click, click, click, click when I'm on the computer, put the claim and it’s done, instead of having to call them since I'm constantly busy because I'm a firefighter and also prefer not to speak to people very often and the only interaction I had with them was getting set up. Then the guy called me the same day, made an appointment and came out also the next day then fixed it within the hour. He told me exactly what was wrong, showed me the part he replaced and he was real nice. The air conditioner has been perfect since then and working like a charm.

We had a spa pump problem and American Home Shield sent a very inexperienced plumber out. Actually, I doubt that he was a plumber. He was probably a repair man. It turned out that it was the pump that tripped the outlet and a reset is easily done on the wall. But when this young man saw the switch on the wall that you can reset for the saw pump, he ignored it and told us that the switch was broken and that the pump caused the switch to conk out. And when he realized it was only tripped on the wall and could easily be corrected, he didn’t admit his mistake.

He even crashed through a piece of tile to look at the pump and he told me it was $20 and very cheap, but it cost $200 and that tile could've been pulled off. So there was a lot of chaos with that and I’m very disappointed in the fact that Home Shield was gonna let this happen with this rationalization that had no sense at all if you knew plumbing, mechanics and electricity.

This young man said the pump was well enough and that it wasn't the problem but the outlet, then my husband pointed out that he hadn't even run the pump to make sure it was working. The plumber said he turned it on. He ran our pump without water and the system was breaking down during the cycle of running. When my husband and I checked it after he left, we had an electrical problem that filled three rooms of our house with electrical odor. That's when we had a real meltdown and decided it needed to be taken care of properly. The outlet was certainly not the problem, it was the pump. We had to bring in another plumber from another company and had to stand our ground so that Home Shield would pay for a pump that was obviously broken.

We have paid $120 every month for eight years, waited an hour and a half to get an answer on a phone call and had to argue our point with them. Their system is broken. When their people come out to fix our stuff and call AHS, they’ve also gotta wait on hold to get a repair done. If you call first thing in the morning before anybody else is up, you can get through to Home Shield but if you call during the day, they will put you on hold so I had run around and done all my work and I just kept dialing with my phone in my pocket until they decided to pick the phone up. Customer service is poor.

We really didn’t have many things for American Home Shield to do before, but as we started getting our house ready to be sold, we came up with a few things that we must do before we have people come through. This company has not supported us and that’s why we’re disappointed. I know so many people that have gone with American Home Shield and I have one friend out of all the people that I know who hasn’t ran into a problem yet. But then she had a central air unit problem and there was a back and forth whether AHS was gonna replace it. They told me AHS wasn't and then they came with a new unit the next time in. That’s American Home Shield for you.

So when we sell this house, we are done with Home Shield. You might make a mistake once but you don’t turn yourself into a fool by doing it twice. They are more frustrating than what they are worth. And the reality is, the contractors out there know about the way things are handled in American Home Shield and their contractors. They need to send qualified people out here and that’s where my problem lies.

This company has even repaired old appliances over and over again when they need to be replaced but they’re not gonna put their money out to replace the item. I’ve got a stove that was gonna be fixed and it was gonna cost $600 yet that stove was only worth $2000 and it’s almost 20 years old. They were gonna waste $600 just to fix the clock portion to repair it so that it’ll run again and I can’t do that with the next house.

We've had several claims with American Home Shield because we've had them for years and everything in our house is older. We're kind of disenchanted with them and we have thought seriously about going to another company if we could, but all warranty companies are probably the same. When we had some problems with our washer and dryer, they came, fixed them and we didn’t have to pay anything after that. But when we got the air conditioning fixed the first time, the tech said he had to replace the concrete underneath of it and he had to do that extra. When we had someone else come in and look at it, he said that none of that was needed to be done and everything was fine on that area.

Our air conditioner also broke in the worst time of the summer. This unit has been replaced years ago through AHS and they put in an inferior brand. I looked it up and Consumer Affairs rated the air conditioning they put in as one of the worst. I knew it was going to break and a part broke in it after not that many years. It should last longer than it did and we feel like we're trapped to continue to pay for it. We also went without air conditioning for almost 10 days because AHS said that we would hear from somebody but we didn’t. I had to call the people they assigned us to and they were nice but they said that they couldn’t come out for three more days.

The tech who came out was nice. My husband was here with him and he said that the tech was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what was wrong. He said that he was going to see if he could get the part overnighted because we've already been without air conditioning for four days. He told us that he's going to call but we never heard a word and we waited for about four more days. Finally, somebody called the following Tuesday and said that the part was in and asked if they can come on Friday to fix it. When the tech came, he fixed it and the air conditioner was working right away. This time, it only cost us $75.

We also had several issues a few months ago when our hot water heater rusted at the bottom and was leaking. I went online, put the claim in and AHS assigned us to someone. Then the tech came and picked up the water heater immediately without getting our approval if we were taking the cash buyout or having it fixed through AHS. He was all right but the bill he gave us was going to be $900 which was an outrageous amount of money. AHS was going to pay $400 and we were going to have to pay the rest. The tech also said that he couldn’t replace the unit with the same size unit because they don’t sell them anymore, so he had to redo all the piping.

After finding out that it was going to cost us that much money, we ended up finding someone that could do it that was licensed. This gentleman went right to a local store and bought the exact same size that we had and it cost us less than the amount given by the tech sent by AHS. In effect, that tech lied to us so that he can make more money. We informed AHS that we'll be taking the buyout from them of only $400 and the replacement only cost us $200 more. But the unit had to be brought back to us and AHS called and told us that they were going to charge us for that. I spoke with a lady who was the rudest I've ever spoken with there at AHS and I made sure they knew. She gave me incorrect information.

The next woman whom I spoke with said that the first rep should have never said that. I said that it's not our problem and that they're reducing the amount of money that they're giving us because the tech already picked up the unit. That’s not our fault because they never approved it with us to have it fixed. Overall, we're not satisfied with AHS. We've had too many things that happened that should not have happened the way they did.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was for my AC unit. The first contractor that was sent out was horrible and not customer friendly at all. I couldn't even contact them. The second guy that came out was at my request because I wanted somebody else. He was an excellent, professional, thorough, open and honest guy. The performance has been fine since the repair with no follow up required but someone came out two times as courtesy to make sure that everything was in working order. However, they're not completely honest when it comes to their program and what is offered. They say it's a repair or replace and that's the bottom-line but that's really not how it works. In over the years, it would have been even more expensive to repair it than to just replace it. They didn't do that. It costs more to do what I want to do. I pay these people a monthly fee to do that and they are not doing it. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with my experience with AHS.

    Kenneth,

American Home Shield believes in making accurate decisions for when a replacement or repair is needed on an item. The decision is determined once a system or appliance is deemed non-repairable meaning no longer working, it is then replaced and covered by your AHS Warranty. We would love to speak with you! The hot water heater was done a couple of months ago. Someone from AHS came out here and said he needed a few parts to fix it. But he told us that it couldn't be fixed, which I knew was not true because I had somebody here three months earlier, privately looking at it for me, and he said he couldn't get the parts. We called up the other company about three months later. They came out and the guy had the hot water heater working within 10 minutes. It was up and running. He did say there might be a problem and they were going to take care of it.

The first company called me and my wife a liar. I am really not too thrilled about that. I know what was said even though I was in my bedroom and sick. My heater was right outside my bedroom window and I heard the whole conversation. He said that the system was too much to fix, that it was open to the elements and could not get all the parts. He verified it again with his boss after he spoke to us and the boss stuck with the employee. I got diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks ago and if it wasn't for that, something would have been done with these people already. But, the second company was really professional and unbelievably great. Another thing is that the jet stop stopped working but that's a nothing deal. It's just an adjustment with the line because my pool guy came out here and did some things.

Other than that, AHS has been absolutely 100% great. Every time we have them come out, the problem was resolved. I needed new knobs for my stove but because they couldn't get the knobs for my stoves anymore, they put a whole new stove in my house instead, for $100. So, I can't beat AHS with a stick and I am trying to get people to join up. I keep telling everybody we know, it's the best policy I've ever had in my entire life. It covers my whole entire house. I've used electricians, plumbers, pool guy, all the appliance guys and they were excellent.

My wife submits claims over the phone and she gets assistance. She knows what times to call up and what days. If she calls up on a Sunday, she's in there within 10 to 15 minutes, but Monday is the worst day to call because everybody is waiting since the weekend. Overall, AHS is the greatest company on the planet. We've had a couple of these and AHS are the most professional out of all of them that we've dealt with.

We've had several claims with American Home Shield. The contractors they sent have been very good for the most part. Every so often we have had a problem. In the process of selling the house, we had the insurance on my wife discovered that the dishwasher was not working. We’d come back after having done tests about three years. We called them and they checked out on a very timely basis. The tech looked at the dishwasher, observed or identified what was wrong with it, ordered parts, was back about a week later, which was too long than we'd like, but it was still well within what to be expected, and he made the repairs.

We also had a technician who came and checked out the air conditioning. He did a great job and there was one concern, but it turned out that the problem was communication between us and the lady who’s buying the house, this realtor. I ended up spending $3200 from the air conditioner. It's an older home and we've had a number of repairs done on it and in every case, American Home Shield and the people they refer have done a good job and we've been very happy with it.

The only thing was that about two years ago we had a contractor come out and replaced the garbage disposal on the house on Hogan Drive and about a week later, the tenants called us and said that the dishwasher was flooding. It turned out that the contractor who installed the disposal had knocked out on the dishwasher drain and I found out about it a couple of months later. I was really disappointed and it's kind of upsetting, but considering this job we had to pay an extra $100 for another service call that the first contractor should have taken care of while he was there. But then he came in the house with his boot on so as not to mess up the floor. So, we've been very impressed with the contractors except with that one occasion with the disposal.

We have a second contract on our house in Springville and last fall we had a problem with our thermostat there. A neighbor who first checked on the house said that it's 95 degrees in there and that our thermostat was locked in heat. AHS was great to work with. Their contractor worked with the neighbor and got a hold of the neighbor to let him in and it worked very well even though we were 1500 miles away at the time and weren't able to be there when the contractor came. So that was another very positive experience.

Then every once in a while we would get a rather long hold waiting for the phone to be answered, but we just deal with that because it was on a Monday morning and the reps are busy. Once we finally get a hold them, they're always helpful. It also paid off in spades and we are so glad we got AHS on our house on Hogan Drive which is a rental and it was wonderful. They had been prompt and they're doing the work with us. We've had a pleasant experience and we recommended them.

I put in a claim last week for my dryer and they haven't come back up yet. It's the second time I'm getting the same dryer fixed for the same issue and I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I need my dryer because I have four year old twins and a 16 month old baby. I submitted the claim online and I got a response within 48 hours. The first time the contractor came, he was in and out because my dryer only has a small issue and he just used a heating coil. I haven't heard from him since then. I called them and the one I talked to said that someone would come next week. She was very rude and acted like I was bothering her by calling.

AHS needs to get better contractors that come out and service. I had more of an issue with the people who are coming out than I do with AHS. My refrigerator was serviced a couple years ago and it took about six times before it got up and running the way it needed to when the last person got it right. But I also got my central air fixed and the people they sent out went awesome. They came really quickly and fixed everything and they were really professional that I had no issues.

Hours on hold and numerous calls and we still have raw sewage in our house, cant use the shower, toilets, sinks. Plumber came out but couldnt use a snake without authorization. They sent it in via computer and 4 hours later NOTHING. We called and after an hour on hold were given horrible customer service and authorization may not be until Monday. No concern that we have raw sewage or that we cant use toilets, showers, etc. Unacceptable. Asked for a supervisor and was told couldnt speak to one. They would call us back within 48 hours.

How is this okay?? What are we supposed to do all weekend without functioning plumbing?? We cant leave because we have pets not to mention the expense. NOT OK especially when the plumber was here but could not do repairs because of your poor systems and customer service. FYI we let our real estate agent know who escalated it and their agency rep was on hold for 2 hours and had to hang up due to other appointments.

For starters, this company has the minimum phone staff working, the wait times on hold are 30-40 minutes every time, ONLY TO BE DISCONNECTED WITH NO RETURN PHONE CALL after finally speaking to someone!!! TODAY'S HOLD TIME WAS 2-1/2 HOURS, WITH 3 DISCONNECTIONS. The company works with A/C vendors who DO NOT WORK WEEKENDS (I'm in Florida), seriously?!?! AND, the vendors they DO contract with are NOT local companies, they are usually 50-60 MILES away. There is no expediting of orders if you're stranded, stuck, broken down, etc.

The way this company operates and the manner in which they treat their "customers" is shameful. I had to provide the PHONE NUMBER & etc. for the vendor THEY USE, leave messages for their vendors, basically do their job for them to get anything serviced. I'm getting this recent issue fixed, and then seriously considering leaving this "plan" behind. Very unhappy with each service experience I have had (3 SO FAR TO DATE) using this company, and my "warranty". Buyers BEWARE!!!

I purchased my condo and a home warranty plan on June 27 2017. I had a home inspection prior to my purchase, and everything worked fine but the inspector said the appliances were past their life span and could go at anytime. I decided to buy a home warranty plan because of this. I called in July because the air conditioning was not working up to par, it was blowing cold air but it just didn't seem strong enough. They sent out their contractor to check it out. I waited two weeks before I called to find out if they were going to repair it. That's when they told me my contract did not start until July 27, even though I had purchased it on June 27. Never did they tell me this. If this was true why did they allow me have a repair man come and fix my AC.

Now they are saying that I am responsible for a new AC unit. I purchased the home warranty to protect me in case an appliance failed. Just like their advertising says to do. This company is dishonest and has no integrity.

The last claim we had with American Home Shield was for the microwave oven. It’s very easy to submit a claim with them, I just push the buttons on the phone or go online. If I have to speak to a representative, it's a very long wait time. Their reps, however, were always very friendly and most of them were knowledgeable too. AHS called Sears in and they had to order a part. It took a week for the part to come in and then they repaired the microwave oven. The repair guy was perfect and on time. Also, he cleaned up after himself when he finished the job. The oven is working fine since the repair. The warranty with AHS is a good plan. You think it's something repaired for $75, which sometimes it's $75 for them just to walk through the door. But after it, you repair something.

I recently had an electrical issue and it was super easy to submit the claim to American Home Shield. I did it online where I put in a couple things they ask, punch it in, select what kind of problem it is and submit it. I didn't even have to know my account number. Then, they text message and email me with the contractor who's coming out and some information. They'd be in contact with me and they'd call, schedule it and text me whenever it's finished asking if I was satisfied or not. The other people they have sent out for issues we've had in the past were ranked really high on Google. But the contractor that recently came out didn't get good reviews on Google and I was concerned. One review was to not let this guy come out if my home warranty company sends him out.

I tried to call AHS back to ask for a different contractor when I read that review but I had a hard time trying to get a hold of them on my phone. It told me the estimated wait time was over 30 minutes and there was no other way to contact customer service. A lot of people now have a thing where you call and they say to put in your phone number and they'll call you back in a little bit so I was disappointed they didn't have something like that. So the contractor finally came out for us and he was professional and courteous. Overall, AHS is a good home warranty company and I'd recommend them.

If there’s been a problem with what’s been repaired, whoever the contractor was, came back and with no charge. Recently, I filed a claim for our air conditioner. The service was fine but it needed two pounds of freon and AHS doesn’t cover freon. So, I had to pay the fee for that as well as for gas which wasn’t covered too. Nevertheless, the contractor was good and the repair was fine. Overall, my experience with AHS has been very good.

American Home Shield needs a little improvement but overall, it’s a good service. We had an air-conditioning issue where it was blowing air but wasn’t cooling the house. So, I made a claim with AHS. The only real difference in this last one over my previous experience with them was that now we have to pay our co-pay upfront. Their system is incredibly frustrating as far as actually getting a hold of someone. I’m always going to double tap because if I call in and do the automated route, I then have to speak to a representative, to make my payment. I don’t know if I’ve already got a claim in there or if my claim doesn’t start until I actually speak to the representative. That bit is a little confusing.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time so I’ve had plenty of contractors come out. The one that I had the most time with was when I had a washing machine that kept going out of balance. They sent the same guy three times. Issue kept happening so they turned around and sent out a different company. The second contractor who came fixed it, no problem. We had zero issues. So, I wasted three service calls which are $70 a piece with a guy that was essentially just perpetuating the problem. But that is not the norm with them. Usually, I got a one-stop shop where I call with an issue and they send somebody out to fix it.

Also, another thing is the timeliness of the contractors. Whenever I call American Home Shield, I already know that I have to reach out to the contractor because that contractor is not going to reach out to me. That has been the case, no matter who the provider is, what the appliance is, or what time of year it is. AHS would say that somebody’s gonna reach out to me in x amount of hours. And if I wait, I’ll end up prolonging my problem because nobody calls me. I have recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people, though, because in the long run, it’s a money saver. There are some issues but in the long run, I’m still saving money so I’m not going to get rid of them.

Then I placed a call to American Home Shield and after we did that, my wife noticed some kind of goop around certain parts of and around the bowl itself.

The contractor called the day after I placed the request and we got an appointment. It was a very reasonable response and the gentleman came. He inspected everything and the toilet was not in good shape. He drained it and the bolts were completely rusted and causing some seepage. He showed me what the condition it was in and it was not a simple fix. He had to replace the various mechanisms inside in order to fix it and he did a great job. He was great because not only did he fix the immediate problem, but also because fixing it required more than I would have thought. He had everything he needed with him and was very thorough. My last claim concerning my heating and air was cancelled. I'm in Atlanta where it gets very, very hot and my wife works from home, in the upstairs part of the house and sometimes it gets a little warmer so I called them to be proactive. The AC is still working. However, I have the service. The agencies that they have sent for this garage door and washing machine have done good work. So the most that's going to cost me is the service fee. So why not get the AC looked at? For this claim, I did it online, but typically, I usually would call and get a live person and they will set it up. Their reps have been courteous and they've taken good care of me. In less than 24 hours, someone from the company will call me and set up an appointment.

I got a call indicating who would be coming but no one came. I didn't make it an issue because they typically call first. And for some reason, I was balancing my budget and I noticed I had a pending charge for a visit that never happened. Typically when somebody comes by, they will do the work and you would sign that the work has been accomplished. In the past, we used to pay them directly when they came. But American Home Shield changed it now where they give you the option to pay it upfront or after the service is done. I chose to pay it after the service was done. But in this particular case, there was never any contact, action or notes about the ACs outside.

Initially, I was trying to convince myself to let it go and do my next service, anyway it was already paid for. Worst case scenario, they may have said nothing was wrong and it was just doing the best it can, or that I needed a new AC or Freon. But because I've used them quite often, I wouldn't have had any problem with the service fee if they told me something, even if it's just "We didn't see anything." But none of that ever happens.

I decided I would call and complain but I felt like I was going to have to jump to some hoops to get my refund back. They were going to debit it and then I could submit some forms and then they would send me a check back. They told me they came by. However, if they hadn't done anything, why was AHS taking it in the first place? I asked whether the contractor told AHS that they did something, and if that's what they said, who did they see and what did they do? They had nothing to give me. So it wasn't evident. Eventually, they retracted that fee but it was only through some persistence by me.

I learned from this issue, but I will use them again. Overall, I'm somewhat satisfied with my experience and I would recommend them. It's still a great service to have when you need it. You pay a monthly fee and you may not need it for six months or a year but if the garage door opens and goes down, it would cost more than that to find someone at Lowe's or Home Depot to come over and do it for you. If you can do that, you're going to work yourselves. Besides, there have been cases when I'm sure it cost more to fix the situation than the service fee. If you can afford to pay the monthly fee and then pay the service fee, it's worth it to have it.

So I called AHS and our plan covered it. I submitted a claim online which was easy. I told them my problem and within minutes we had a referral of who was coming out here and it was good. The technicians fixed it and we were very happy. They were great and American Home Shield was good. The internal wiring has been good because they fixed it all. But our air conditioners weren't covered by AHS and band aids were put on them for years. It’s hard to get new plans though so I forget about it.

We’ve been with AHS for about 30 years. Every home we've owned we've had them. My only complaint is that the rate for the service fee keeps going up. 30 years ago it was $30 but today it's $82. They're charging sales tax now which they never had before, but everybody gets their taxes either way overall. We've always been pleased with AHS. They’re professional and speedy.

It was a fairly routine submitting a claim with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim online regarding a dishwasher and they had somebody come out and look at it. But AHS didn't look to see if they could find parts and decided that they couldn’t. I called AHS and the first person I talked with who was going to help me chose a replacement, didn’t know what she was doing. She didn't know the product that we were dealing with and recommended to me a far inferior product as a replacement. I went out on the internet and found out that it wasn’t a match and called back.

The second time I called, I got someone who had been with AHS for a while and understood the difference between a very basic GE product and a more basic but superior KitchenAid product and she said the first person I spoke with didn’t pick the right product category for me. The second person then took a few minutes and found KitchenAid product, which was something that's more in line and made that an offer. I ended up turning that down not because it was not a decent offer but it so happened that when all this was happening, KitchenAid was having a sale on their products and I was able to buy from them a dishwasher. I then asked AHS for the cash, the equivalent of the replacement, instead. And now, I’m waiting on the check. From that perspective, I’m happy with the services.

I got the machine from Home Depot and had them deliver and install it because AHS doesn't do the installation. Otherwise, everything American Home Shield has offered me and done so far has been good. I have used AHS for over 20 years even though my company recommends another company. I am a real estate agent and when I feel that a home warranty is warranted, I recommend it to my clients. There are other companies but I know what my clients and I are going to get with AHS. It would be nice though if AHS would recognize a real estate agent that brings them a client, some other companies do.

I needed to have something done to my AC unit. The guy AHS sent out told me what the deal was and how much it was going to cost. I didn’t know that I had to pay $130 for a gallon of Freon and I wish I did. That means I would have to come up with $800 right off the bat and I didn't have that kind of money. So I was not happy with that. I had to call AHS to say that I would go outside and have the problem taken care of. Once the technician was gone, I got a phone call from them saying that I can have my own private person to take care of it and they’ll reimburse me up to so much. It took them four days to call me back. I was already out of AC for about seven days and I had to wait another four days before somebody came. That was too long and I had to take care of the issue myself because it was almost two weeks and I was down with no AC.

It was the hottest time of the season and I have a daughter who has asthma, so I needed to do something right away. I had to take it out of my own pocket instead of dealing with AHS. They waited too late to get back with me and I needed some air and it was just too hot for us to be waiting. The person I hired to take care of the unit took a look at it really quickly, fixed it, had me up and running within a half an hour. He also only charged me $300.

However, what he did was not the same with the guy AHS sent out. It wasn’t the problem that he determined and that’s not the problem he fixed. I asked the lady from AHS if I would get a refund of my $100 fee, since I didn't use the service, and she said that they couldn't do that. I just take that as a loss and chalk it up for next time. The overall experience was not bad, but it took way too long in between days to hear back from them.

Kudos to American Home Shield Account Executive Carina ** for going above and beyond the call of duty in response to a dire need for our family! Recently the water heater at the home my wife and I purchased in April went out. With minors and an aging adult - who had only days before returned home from a short hospital stay, any extended period without hot water was an unacceptable scenario.

We knew we had an American Home Shield warranty set up as part of our purchasing agreement, but were unaware that we had to use a pre-designated vendor. The vendor would have to come assess the malfunctioning heater, determine if it was in need of repair or replacement, and the over all process could take 1-2 weeks. In stepped Carina, who exhibited an understanding of our plight, comprehended we needed to immediately address the circumstance with a local vendor, and found a means to offset some of the cost of our emergency with empathy, and dedication to premium customer service. We're extremely appreciative of the extra effort made by Carina on our behalf, and highly recommend American Home Shield for homeowners as a result of her value added accomplishment.

The AC broke again in November, which I didn't have the money to call them out. When I finally got them out in May when it started to heat up a lot, their vendor said I had little gas, then said I had none, and that I needed to pay for a full refill. They said the fix was for the coils and needed to add gas again.

So it broke again in July, and I'm still out of an AC, which the inside and outside unit comes on, but no cold air. The gas is gone!!! This is what was supposed to be fixed, and AHS keeps trying to get me through the same process, which I don't trust. I asked that this be escalated, and was told someone would be in touch in 24-48 hours.

Five days later, I finally received a message. I have returned the call nearly two dozen times, and the employee 'Porche' does not answer or return messages. I have also sent two online email inquiries, with no response from there as well. Not sure why I'm paying for an insurance, when a job isn't getting done correctly the first time, they have little to no accountability with the companies that they send out, and there is no initiative to get things right.

So for my two kids that have been enduring the Florida heat index of over 100 on most days, I decided that others should know of my experience. Not right that I pay them monthly, trust in their repairs, but some of their companies (specifically AirBoss) just are not worried about doing a thorough job, and getting things right on the first attempt. So now I'm on my 3rd repair in a year, and I'm expected to pay the $75 and pay $600-$800 again for the gas. They are not interested in any other solution. I have also not been able to get into contact with anyone from AirBoss either.

I pay monthly for my home warranty so when the replace filter indicator on my refrigerator stopped working, I made a service request and paid my $100 service fee. The indicator is essentially a timer that tells you five months after being reset that it's time to go buy a new water filter and then it tells you at six months that you need to replace it. So there is no way for me to ask for a "recall" within American Home Shield's 60 day period to send the technician back out without having to handover another $100. I can understand this policy if the homeowner has a reasonable way of determining that the repair has not been successful. In this case, it is impossible to know for five months and I should not be charged another service call fee. That's part one of my aggravation with AHS.

The other is the AHS call center where you wait on hold to speak with someone for at least 20 minutes and then get a disconnect before being connected. This has happened to me on six out of eight calls in the past two days and it matters not whether I'm calling from my cell or a landline. I'm not going to say that it's intentional, but it's certainly one way to frustrate customers. I have finally gotten through to a person at AHS who insists that 60 days is 60 days, irrespective of my inability to know whether the repair was successful for 150 days after it was made. This is a very difficult company to deal with. Plan to spend a lot of time on the phone trying to resolve simple issues.

I have had American Home Shield for the last three years, as well as 2 year previously when I first bought the home. Our AC unit went out on our home on 7/13 and after 2 hours on hold trying to get through I hung up and attempted again the following morning, once again after an hour on hold I had to hang up and go to work. My husband ended up doing an on-line work order and they sent someone out to look at the unit (this is not 3 days without AC in the Florida heat). The guy that came out did a few things to the unit and said that the unit was old and this repair could last 2 days, 2 months or 10 years. Approximately 2 weeks later the unit started not keeping the place cool and would run non stop.

We tried calling again and never got through. So we once again did a work order. However the heat was getting unbearable and we have an 11 year old daughter in the home that is a recovering cancer patient and very heat sensitive. We decide to go ahead and just replace the unit. I took off work this morning so I could wait on hold for however long it takes today and was told since we did not wait for American Home Shield to come back out and try look at it again American Home Shield is saying they will won't cover the unit. They said when it went out the second time we should have called and escalated it so they could send someone out ASAP and not have done the on-line slip.

Besides from us having no idea that was how we were suppose to do it for return visits, we both work and do not have 2 hours a time to sit on the phone waiting for someone to answer the call. The AC guy that we had come out and look at the unit and is now doing the replacement said that the company not only possibly fried the system they caused the system to lock in heat mode and now our AC unit is blowing hot air. Which potentially could have caused the fire. The AC guy I had come out to do the install/fix until a new unit was installed did get it back working temporarily and now American Home Shield says if they sent someone out they would see the unit is working and not cover the new unit anyway.

The contractor who called me from Hers & His Plumbing was really nice and professional and their technician came out earlier than expected and gave us feedback on how to upkeep things. Everything was finished on one appointment and since the repair everything has been working properly.

We recently had American Home Shield send us a plumber to repair a leak under our bathroom floor. It was Chesapeake Plumbing & Heating and they were very professional, quick, efficient and courteous. They even did a little bit more than they actually were supposed to do. And so as the other contractors sent by AHS, their quality of work has been fine, cleaned up after themselves. Also, the AHS reps have always been courteous, prompt and right on the spot. Whenever I have to submit a claim I usually try to do it over the phone unless I keep getting their recordings over and over. Then when I get frustrated I just go directly online. As a matter of fact, AHS is better than my homeowner's insurance.

We have two accounts with American Home Shield and we still have them. Their claims representatives were wonderful on the phone. I loved AHS when we had it in our first house except the fact that when I called them, we ran around trying to get our oven door replaced. The oven technician up in Florence was very nice but it took forever to get it done. Nevertheless, they have been good in everything else. We also got them when we bought the beach house down in Florida but it took 10 weeks in order to get the dishwasher replaced after they sent technicians out here five times. I did not like the dishwasher technician. He was the first one that came up several times, was rude and was using nasty language in front of my grandbabies. My daughter told him that if he can’t stop that, he can just leave. He was frustrated like we were but he shouldn’t talk like that in front of little kids.

We called and he’d be very frustrated on the phone. He would say he has just been here and I told him that he needs to stick around for a while as we’ve been trying to tell him. We’ll run it and then I’ll show the damage. I know he was getting frustrated himself so I can’t fault him. My daughter was here and she kept telling them what happened and saying that it’ll work for 10 minutes then it totally stops. It took 10 weeks before AHS finally said that we’re going to get a new dishwasher. Thank goodness they sent a different technician out that installed it. He was different from the one that came out several times. And then, it’s not even hooked into the cabinet because they said that they’re not allowed use granite on the counter tops. So, every time we open both doors, the whole thing wants to fall off the cupboards. Other than that, we’ve had a good time with them, they had really been good and we've been really pleased.

I'm not very happy with AHS at all. They really absolutely suck. My only claim with American Home Shield, I have a crapped out, 29-year old AC unit. Instead of replacing it, all they want to do is throw a Band-Aid on it and they want to put a compressor in. I opt not to use the company that they brought out because I had another company that had come out on my own and looked at it and said, they were totally wrong in their diagnosis and the outside unit need to be completely replaced. And I'm going to take the buyout money because I wouldn't let the people they come out cut my grass, let alone put an air conditioning unit in for me, which there wasn't going to be an air-conditioning unit. All it was going to be was a compressor.

The experience I had submitting a claim was lie, lie, dance, dance, dance. Nobody's going to tell the truth. We got to go by the rules. I've never heard and I've talked to a rep from American Home Shield who contracts various vendors to go out for and he says, what they're telling me is not really the truth. I can have a second vendor come out for another $100 and I could gamble on whether or not they're going to be just as bad as the first one. I need somebody that knows what they're doing.

The contractor they sent out was good. I just don't think he understood. I guess he understands because I think his quote was if I come out here and say, I need a whole new unit, American Home Shield is going to send out five vendors until they get one that says, that they won't. So when it froze up for the second time, I didn't even know what he did the second time even if he tried to fix anything. I don't know if the condenser wasn't working on the second time. And the third time, they sent somebody else out and he came out with his little sniffy thing and said, the compressors leaking.

According to American Home Shield, if you have an R-22 system, they're only going to pay $10 a pound in my nine-pound system, is curiously jumped up to 12 pounds at a $100 and something per pound of R-22. I elected to say, "Screw that. Just give me the money. I'll get somebody who knows what they're doing. I'll put it in and I'll buy a whole new unit myself."

I got more bang for the buck because it was $100. I broke it down to $33 per service call because normally, it should have been $100 and they should have came out and fixed it. So I came up with a diagnosis that was really going to work and they answer is, no, no and no. I'm going to bite my tongue for a while because I got a certified and inspected system that's going to get put in tomorrow. And the other thing too is, here's your great American Home Shield, I say, "Why can't I pick my own vendor?" Total Home Protection allows you to take your own vendor. Everybody else does but not them, no.

They said, "No. The best we could do is to bandage him first and can be second and that would be another $100." You know, by the time I get done, American Home Shield has been the biggest disappointment, period, of anything I have ever done. I usually make pretty valid decisions. I'm actually embarrassed by the fact that I went to the higher program that didn't cap off at $1500 so American Home Shield can do what they could to keep it under $50.

I hope AHS goes out of business. That'd be the highlight of my day. I hope somebody gets off and piss off at them and actually sue them and get done with the game and just say, Come out and fix this stuff. It's a 29-year old unit. It's going to cost me $1100 in R-22 even if they did put it in, just to put in a compressor and then, I can get the buyout for $850.12 minus whatever service fees and I paid $100 at the services and everybody else that comes out charges $85. I'm sure, there's going to be some scam charge on that too where I don't get the whole $850. They're going to say, there's some hidden fee somewhere with the hidden scam, American Home Shield scam. As you can see, I'm not excessively disappointed. I'm disappointed at myself that I believe American Home Shield really was a decent company and they are not.

Bottomline is if they want to be a company, just eliminate the air-conditioning aspect of what they cover. Just take it off their map because they're not going to be honest about it. I want all my premiums back, is what I want, for the five years that I've paid because they lied to me. They lied to me. They did not do anything that they said that they would do. They did not offer me any type of choice of any vendor. I was told that more than once and if it was, they would pick the next vendor. Everybody else offers choice of vendor. They don't. They sent one rag after another until they can get one to get the cheapest Band-Aid to get it out the door. They're horrible. I can't be more disappointed any decision I made other than my first wife that would even compare to this.

We've had a few claims with American Home Shield and the most recent one was with our washer. I spoke with a representative to submit the claim and they had someone come out and look at it. But the washer could not be fixed, so we bought a new one and they reimbursed us. This was a quick replacement and it was easy because we just submitted the receipt and they sent us a check. But it has been incredibly hard to speak with a representative to submit a claim. Last time, I tried to call AHS at least five times and waited on hold for about an hour and a half. There was also another time when I waited on hold on the phone for a very long time, only to be told by the rep that her computer was down, so she could only send a new claim but I was calling about the status of a current claim, so she said I had to hang up and call back, which was ridiculous after having spent that long on hold.

Other than that, they're usually able to resolve whatever issue I'm having. One time, Sears came for the washer and they were really great. But there was another company that came to repair our stove and fridge which both broke at the same time and they were absolutely horrendous. They were most unprofessional and we had to have them back two or three times. One of these times, the tech was supposed to get there at 6:00 PM but he didn't come till 9:00 at night. I said, "Don't even bother. Plan another time," but he said, "We're right around the corner. It will be quick." This was on a Monday night and he had me unload all of the contents of my fridge and freezer because he had to fix the wheel on the bottom.

That problem with the wheel started when the tech tried to fix the defrost timer in the freezer before and the wheel broke, so I had to have him come back. I told AHS to send out two techs because the tech can't touch a wheel at the bottom of the fridge without someone's help. But they only sent out one guy and I had to convince him that it was the wheel that had a problem because he thought that my floor was not leveled. I even had to take out a level to prove that it wasn't my floor that was not leveled. He was going to tilt the fridge forward and have me hold it while he fixed it but I said, "I don't think so.” I've called AHS a few times and put in a couple of reports about how they should not work with that company anymore. These issues we've had have been a pain, but everything seems to be working fine now and we're happy overall.

Our central air heat was giving us a problem. We called American Home Shield and they sent Southern Comfort which told us the problem was the default wire. They all did the same thing so we called AHS back. Then we had an automatic circuit tell us to wait for 10 minutes. We then waited for 48 minutes on the phone, which was ridiculous. It makes us want to hang up and we're scared to hang up. We thought the wait time would only be ten minutes. Also, we never know when we’re going to get chosen. We feel like we couldn’t leave a contact number, but we just got to hold on.

Southern Comfort came the following week and they checked everything like they wanted the first time. They told us that the thermostat needed to be reprogrammed. They did that but it had the same results. So we had to call AHS again and we waited for 45 minutes. Southern Comfort came the following week and the person who came told us we had an electrical shortage. But we only got the unit for five years so I couldn't understand that. We told our rep that we wanted a second opinion and he told us that that would be an additional $75 which was no problem. We also got an e-mail telling us that the cost was a little bit more for coming back out. AHS then referred us to H&M and that took care of the problem on the first try.

It was fine submitting a claim to American Home Shield. However, I agreed to take the higher deductible and pay less per month, so that was on me. But next time, I will take the lower deductible because my repairs have been minor things. First was my dish washer and all the guy did was ask me a few questions. He was very nice and polite. He came in and told me he’ll get it working for me in a minute. He put a key in it, turned it and it came on. But I had to call him back again because it's not working. And this service man who was totally different told me that I have a very low-power garbage disposal. He’s very honest. The garbage disposal is for minor stuff and nothing heavy so that’s okay. He said it's not working properly and he would check if they can get me another one. And so, they agreed to give me another garbage disposal for the cost of this one, which was $60. But I wanted a higher powered one, so I had to pay the extra, which was fine.

Then, a guy comes in to fix the dryer and he says the knob is broken and he said I need a new one which is true because he had to use pliers to get it going. So I said okay. I asked him how much a new one is going to cost me. He said he needs to see if it is covered first. I told him the knob had better be covered because they’re going to have a problem with me if I paid a $100 deductible for him to come here and tell me my knob needs to be replaced and I got to pay for it. And he called them and said they're going to pay for it.

There are some things that they question paying for which reminds me of something I saw on TV, about a home protection program where the lady's refrigerator needed to be replaced. She paid her deductible and they aren’t going to give her a certain amount for a new refrigerator. She has to pay the ref. I hope that's not the cost of this company. So, I’ll call to check on that with AHS. I hope I don't have the problem. But the service people I’ve met are very polite. They come in, do their work and don't tarry. It’s been a positive experience.

Our house in Florida had an AC issue, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I called on a Friday morning but the first company we are hooked up with wasn’t available until Tuesday. It was two weeks before we moved out and that’s not going to work for an AC in Florida, with two babies. The representative said if that’s not satisfactory, we have to cancel the first order because I already have somebody coming Tuesday. I ended up spending an hour on the phone cancelling the first order and placing the second order. I get that everybody’s AC is breaking in the summer because we are using it nonstop and weekends are weekends, but it was frustrating. I was on hold for 45 minutes and I couldn’t do anything online so I had to call. However, it went perfectly fine. They were able to get somebody that day and the contractor fixed it within an hour. They said it wasn’t a huge issue.

We also bought a house in Pennsylvania and I’m glad it had the home warranty, because we had a leak. It happened Friday night around 7:30 or 8:00. The girls were having a bath and it started leaking into the kitchen. So, we didn’t add any more water and let the tub drain, and suddenly water pour through the ceiling. One guy came on Saturday morning around 9:00 but had to come twice because it was a two-man job. He tried to find another guy on Saturday but couldn’t. So, they came on Sunday and fixed the plumbing. And they were great.

I would definitely recommend buying from American Home Shield. I understand that I have to go through the process of calling, waiting on a plumber, etc. But it turned out to be a blessing and it was worth it in both instances. An older lady bought our house in Florida and so, there's peace of mind that if something happens with the house, she can just call related to the package that we purchased. Also, our home in Pennsylvania is 50 years old and I'm thankful the homeowners got the warranty like we did with our Florida house. Because that would have been a nightmare. I wish we didn’t have to use it but it's always nice to have it when you need it.

My most recent claim was the one with the bathroom toilet and the experience with American Home Shield has been great. But unfortunately, the technician they have assigned is horrible. It's probably the worst experience I've had and I'm still going through that. In the month of March, they submitted a request for a service for a part of the master bathroom toilet which is very important for us. The technician came in and he said the flap for the toilet bowl was not right so he changed the flap.

However, this was the third time I'm calling for the same toilet in the last one and a half years so I told the technician that it's not just the flap and they can't keep changing the flaps every three months. There had to be something else so he looked into it and he said there was something wrong with the design of the toilet bowl and I needed to order the part for something inside it. That made sense and I said okay. He charged me $75.

But every time I've called him since March, he has said the part is in back order but it's coming. However, the last two times, he had stopped taking my calls. It's been four months and when I complained to American Home Shield when they called, the rep confirmed that the part is still in back order but he was going to work with me for any backup options. This happened on Tuesday and he was supposed to call me on Wednesday but he never called me. American Home Shield also told me that they will call me on Thursday to check if the technician has called me and they never called me as well.

It's a water leak and I am paying so much extra money monthly for this water leak in my bathroom for the last five months and it's way more than the $75 which I've already paid. Plus, it's a master bathroom and I have two little kids but I had to shut the water off to save my water bill. I'm definitely not very happy with the technician they have assigned and that American Home Shield is not taking my complaints seriously. They're trying to do a follow-up with the same technician and not updating me with anything. Forget the repair, I'm still waiting for a phone call to even tell me what is going on.

On top of that, I've noticed these last three years that there's been a significant increase in the monthly price every year so I'm definitely not very happy with that either. I've been with American Home Shield for the longest time and I have them in my three other properties as well. I even talked to the customer service and asked them if, since I'm such an old customer, they could give me a better price or a discount with multiple units. They said there was nothing they could do.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was very good. A pump went out on my air conditioning unit. I submitted the claim online and it was all automated when they sent someone out. They'd tell you online who is going to call you. Then they randomly find whoever they have a contract with. The heating and cooling company had really good people, and it worked out fine. Their people were very nice. They met with me at lunch and they were on time. They were quick and professional. The first guy found the problem and then the second guy came two days later after they got the part, and he fixed it within an hour. The performance of the air conditioning has been excellent since the repair. I would definitely use that company again and recommend them. This was the only time everything was good. I got lucky and I couldn't be happier.

The first time I filed a claim was for my built-in microwave oven that died. That's a Bosch and there were only a few people around to fix it. When AHS sent someone out, the tech couldn't fix it. Then they sent another person, but he couldn't fix it either. They then told me on the phone that at this point, they couldn't fix it because they should replace all the parts, that I should just go buy it myself and then they'd reimburse me. So I found the unit and I ordered at Sears. I brought it in and installed it myself with a bad shoulder. Then they said that they didn't tell me to do that and that they will only give me a certain amount. Then they gave me $300 or $400 for it, but the unit was $700.

They said that I can't prove what they told me, so they didn't believe me. Then they said something about looking into the contract that I signed. I went online and tried to dig deeper to try to find something that they were talking about, that they would only pay so much on it. I told them that it was not in the contract that I signed, but they said that it's online, which I thought was a bit shady. I have friends that have used them but never had a problem with them. I would not recommend them to anyone else, but my house is eight years old so I'll probably keep the contract.

We ended up paying the company that responded $400.00 to repair the issue. So, at the end, we paid $525.00 since AHS still charged the $125.00 to make that call. That was an expensive call!!!! Calling AHS was to no avail. Basically I was told its cost of $125.00 for them make the call to a company which charged us $400.00 --- actually to be correct, their charge was $399.90. I feel we got screwed by AHS. We should have received some relief since we had to pay for the repair.

My first experience with AHS was excellent but my second experience was not. I had a pipe burst in the basement so I called to submit a claim and the rep I spoke to was very polite and helpful. AHS sent a plumber who's very polite but he told me that the pipe wasn’t covered so I asked why AHS didn’t tell me that. He said that it's because I ordered it online, but I never submitted online because that creates confusion. AHS lied to him and I had it repaired out of pocket. AHS has been responsive and my experience with them has been good except for that incident.

We called about our washer defect on June, 2017. On June 28th a technician was sent to our home. The technician ordered the parts, then came back to fix the washer. It did not work still. So we placed another call. A technician was sent again. The technician told us that there is nothing he could do with the washer. So, we did not have access to a working washer. We reported the problem on July 27, 2017. We called nearly everyday since then. The wait time was averaging between 50 minutes to 70 minutes. Once you got hold to an associate, they kept telling you the same thing. They claimed that they need a diagnostic from the technician.

Everyday, they told me the same thing. They promised me that they would call me and let me know about the progress. Nothing happened. I have been paying the fees for many years, but until now, I am not sure that they plan to replace, repair or going to help us with the defect washer. Looking for advice. I thought this company has a good reputation, but unfortunately it did not look like they plan to fix or replace the washer or help their customer. Not even a callback.

American Home Shield is horrible to deal with. They were happy to take my money when I purchased the policy, but two months ago my microwave died and they are making excuses to avoid replacing it. When we reported the problem they sent out a contractor who took several days to come out. He ordered a new fuse (which took a week), then came out and replaced it (we were charged for the service call). The microwave worked... for a few weeks. We called again and they sent the contractor out again (again, we had to wait several days with a dead microwave for anyone to come). When the contractor finally got here he looked at the microwave then called American Home Shield and told them that the 13 year old microwave needed to be replaced, but they instructed him to put in another fuse (as if that would help). It took several days to order it and several more for him to come put it in. Again it worked... for a few days.

We called again and out came the contractor again (after a week of waiting). He called American Home Shield again and again told them the microwave is too old to repair, but they would not authorize a new one. This time they told him to put in a new circuit board. Another week with a dead microwave. When the board was finally installed it worked... for only a week, just like the contractor told them. Clearly the microwave is shot, but they are intent on replacing one little part at a time instead of just doing the right thing and replacing the microwave. The contractor is dumbfounded that American Home Shield is putting us through this. But tomorrow he is coming back to look at the microwave. He already told us that he will just call American Home Shield AGAIN when he gets here and tell them it needs to be replaced.

I fully expect them to instruct him to replace some other random part. It will then take him 3-4 days to order the part that won't fix the problem, another 3-4 days to get back out to install it, a few days for the microwave to function before it dies, then we will start the cycle all over again. This is so unfair and frustrating. It feels like American Home Shield is dragging this out in the hopes that we will just give up and buy the new microwave ourselves. We paid for the warranty, we paid for the service and they provided nothing but frustration in return. Not to mention the fact that every time we call them we are on hold at least 50 minutes. I am amazed that a company that cares so little about their customers can remain in business. How can it take two months to figure out a microwave needs to be replaced!!!

I have requested that the same company, Ecco Tec Services, that put the unit in return to fix it so she made sure that the same people came and took care of the problem. I was satisfied with their response and getting someone here quickly to resolve the problem. Once the contractor came back, I was able to schedule and do the things I had scheduled for that day so, I’m pleased with that. The contractor knew what was going on and it didn’t take him that long to unclog the line. I’m satisfied with the repair and I haven’t had problems anymore. AHS has been very professional, efficient and they listen to what my problem is. I’m pleased with them and I will continue to be their customer.

I had an issue with plumbing so I called American Home Shield's number but I was on hold for 40 minutes. Nobody answered their phone and I couldn't talk to anybody, so I put a request in their website. They said the company would text me, but they didn't want to deal with me and they wouldn't come out until Tuesday which was six days after the fact. It got to the point where I was going to cancel my registration. Also, I had a hot tub that should be covered years ago but I found out it wasn’t. They came out four months ago and said “Sorry, we don’t cover it” so they charged me $75 on top of my $75 a month.

However, their contractors were okay, but it depends. Some were absolutely the worst and they are contractors who cover icemakers. A year ago, I called to get my icemaker fixed and the guy said “That's not covered, but we're not going to charge you for it." But he demanded to write him a check and I didn’t, so American Home Shield charged me. They charged me for a work not done so I went after them and I contacted the Better Business Bureau. When I had another issue with the refrigerator, I made sure that company doesn't come back. They were tough to deal with and a lot of females had problems because they were intimidated when these guys came to their house. I ended up with another company that sent out a guy and explained to me that people have also told the police on them.

Overall, I have been a customer for 17 years and I've referred them to multiple people, but about three or four years ago, they switched. Now, I would turn those people away and say "Just go on your own and get somebody else, because you don't deserve this kind of treatment." Having referred these people, I’m amazed at how they’re not going the extra mile for me. It was unsatisfactory and cruel.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was on my kitchen sink. I did an online request and they came out the next day. They did it in a timely fashion. Everything was repaired and the technician was really nice. But the one before that was the worst, and that was with my washer. The technician came out on the 20th of June, diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. But, they didn’t have any open slots until July 12th so he didn’t come back out to finish the repair until then.

I called back to American Home Shield and they said it was the policy. When I was on the phone, they initially told me that it would be the 5th of July but they sent me a confirmation that said July 12th. I told them that Sears offered me a $50 laundry coupon to wash my clothes on a laundry mat, but what is $50 going to do for a family of four? With all the towels and washcloths, $50 was going to be a waste of my time. But it’s all right now. It just took me a month of waiting with no washer.

I'm very glad I have American Home Shield. They're reliable, competent and comforting. I'm a widow now so whenever I have a concern, it's very convenient to be able to just call one person and they'd send out people who are reputable. When I submitted a claim regarding an air conditioning, they were prompt about calling me and letting me know when they were setting up the appointment. It's been good with the AHS' representative too but I had to wait so long, over 30 minutes, to submit my claim, maybe because it's summer and a lot of people have air conditioning issues.

But the contractor came out and they were courteous and considerate of my home. They had to take off their shoes and they tried to perform their duty. I have an older unit and they kept working until they got it fixed and anytime the problem comes back, the contractor would also come back and fix it. Everything went well and I'm satisfied. Since the repair, my unit seems to be working well. There's additional charge for Freon. But other than that, I know how much I'm going to have to pay, and I appreciate that.

My experiences with American Home Shield were very nice, but I wouldn’t recommend them for any kind of plumbing problem. At first, I had no hot water and AHS sent out two men. They said I needed a new water heater so I had to buy a brand-new one. Then, I had a problem again and they came back. They said I needed some parts so they put some parts in and I got hot water for a while. I didn’t have it for over a week and the plumbers said the repair wasn't part of their job and that if I wanted them to fix it, it would be over $300. I didn't understand any of it, then I talked to my son and he took it from there so I have hot water now.

But then, neither of my two toilets would flush. And even in the kitchen sink, the water wouldn’t go down for quite some time. In the beginning when I had a problem, I had to wait three days for a plumber to come out. I understand they’re busy and one toilet would be stuck up so at least I had the other toilet to use. But this time, I couldn’t use either toilet. I couldn’t flush both toilets for over a week. They sent out a different company, Drain Go, and they said they needed an outside access but there was none. My son had to cut the pipe on the outside and get something wide so they had access. Then we called them back and they drained and fixed that but they said there’s either a clog or a crack somewhere in the line.

We didn't know if these plumbers knew what they were doing and what kind of experience they've had as plumbers. They said they’ve been doing plumbing for over 20 years and that they knew what they're doing. But it didn't look that way. I’m on city sewer and now they’re saying I have to take off half my back porch and dig up the ground to find out where the pipe is going and where the blockage is.

The problem still has not been completely solved. Although I have hot water and I could flush the toilets, but for how long, I don’t know. They’re also telling me I’m going to have to pay for the city service, but I’m paying AHS monthly for the service which they're taking automatically out of my account. I also had to pay the $75 deductible twice and now they’re saying this is not their problem. But they didn’t even know if it was the city or if it was septic. Besides, my son said the city is not responsible for it even though I pay the Leeds Water Department and these plumbers don’t know what the heck they’re talking about.

Our air conditioner stopped and it was scorching hot. We were sleeping in somebody's house because it was too hot inside our house. My wife is diabetic and she couldn't stand the heat. We called AHS and a guy came out. He fixed the air conditioner but it was only for a day and then it went out again. I figured maybe it was just the heat. It was after about 15 days when we couldn't take it anymore. I called AHS back and they sent another crew in. The guy was so knowledgeable and professional. He checked to see if the freon was good and went upstairs in the attic. He found whatever the problem was and fixed it. My house is cool now. It didn't get cool until the next day because the house was so hot, but the next morning, we felt the house getting cool. It's still a little bit hot during the course of the day, but it's better than what we got when we first started out where my kids couldn't come because they couldn't stand heat.

Additionally, I was very happy that I didn't have to pay for the second guy who came out. I'm more than satisfied with AHS. I wasn't satisfied with my other warranty because when I call, they didn't want to respond when I had a problem with my plumbing. And all weekend, I couldn't use my bathroom because it was flooded. I had to move to my daughter's house for a while. But with AHS, the phone was answered when I called and they replied kindly to my questions. The only thing is they don't work on weekends. But the contractors were on-time. When they said 8:00, they were here at 8:00.

They have a credit card on file. The contractor came out on the same day and my husband showed him what we thought the problem was. The leak was behind the mirror that was on a little recess wall. He had to cut a piece out of there and my husband told him to leave the mess because it wasn't anything he could really do anyway but he didn't make a big mess. The issue has been fine since then. AHS was sold with the house I got. When I had a leak in the air conditioning and water was all over my wood floor, the contractor from Comfort something came out quickly the next day. He told me it was the condensation pan that was cracked which was not anybody's fault, but it's not covered. I asked him to give me a price on it and in the meantime, I also had a problem with the thermostat which the contractor said needed to be replaced. He would get me another one and a price on it. That was three weeks ago. I called the company and nobody answered the phone left messages so I had the AC fixed. Also, every time I called AHS, I was on the phone for 50 minutes. The last time I called, I was on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes. They told me to hold and that they'd transfer me to somebody else. They transferred me to Comfort and I was livid they did that. I tried to call a supervisor and they just kept me on hold. It was the absolute worst.

The technician told me they are the best ones to have. If they're the best I couldn't even imagine what the worse would be. They were the absolute worst. It would have been three weeks and my floor would have been ruined. I paid $550 to have my air conditioner fixed which was wrong but I did it because I had to. But I'm glad I didn't have the contractor fix it because I don't know what he was capable of doing.

I was in the retail business for 30 years and if I ran my departments like AHS does, I would have been out of business in two weeks. I was appalled. It was so bad of an experience. I could deal with the fact that my claim wasn't covered, but they also never called me back when I wanted a price and I was going to pay. Also when I first talked to the woman, she was just downright rude. I even called and blocked my number so she wouldn't know it was me. But she doesn't even answer the phone. It's like a half a man operation. AHS is hounding me to renew with them by the end of September but I won't be giving them a red nickel.

My furnace was cycling and shutting off, and also sparking so we contacted American Home Shield back in March to come out. Submitting the claim using the application online was fairly smooth. I described the problem and there was a quick response from American Home Shield. The problem was fixed in June, however we had to go through cycles of sending out different technicians from the same company until we found one who could actually do the service.

I didn't really like the first contractor Rich. He came out to my home and the first thing that he did was to clean the lighter stick with a dollar bill. The furnace came on and he left, but a day later, the furnace went off again. I called American Home Shield and made a complaint. They sent Rich out again and this time he came out with an attitude. He made it seem like it was a user error and he did the exact same thing. I told him that wasn't working and he disregarded my comment. Since the furnace came on before he left, he figured he had resolved the problem.

I contacted American Home Shield when the furnace went off again and this time when the company contacted me, I gave them everything that was happening and the demeanor of Rich. However, they did not do anything about it. They simply called the company and asked them to come back out. I had no charge and that may be an American Home Shield issue meaning that they don't get involved, but they did not help to mitigate the issue. I had to go to the company myself and actually write the owner of the company to have them resolve it swiftly and send out someone too. They tried to send Rich again but I sent videos of the furnace going on and stopping seconds later. I myself have tried to clean the lighter stick so I also sent a video of doing the exact same thing Rich did and the furnace cycling going off. So I asked them not to send Rich because his solution was not working.

They sent another gentleman named Charlie. It took him 20 minutes to assess the entire furnace and he did a very thorough job. He found out it had to do with the motor, water bagging and the system. He checked the pipes leading out from the system outside the home. I was very pleased with his thorough assessment and he diagnosed that I needed a new motor so he put an order in for one. And it was still under warranty.

To install the motor, they sent another gentleman out. His name was John and he went further than simply installing the motor. He actually replaced the motor board and fixed a couple other things that he thought would deter the motor from working appropriately. Now it's performing as it should and running the air. Whatever he did actually improved the way the furnace was working prior to the service call so I'm very satisfied with John. But in my experience, American Home Shield just provides access to various technicians at an affordable price.

Number two, I had a company that said that they charge to refill the freon, which is fine. According to the contract, that’s not a problem. However, what was very upsetting was, they charged an exorbitant fee.

I contacted another AC company for the same product and it was more than five times of what they charge. Plus, I have a neighbor who lives just right across the street from me. He has an air conditioning business and he said that the way this company was charging was ridiculous. So, I asked to change the company and AHS did it. In this case, they handled it very well. The other company did a good job to resolve the issue. I have been with AHS for 3 months now and, overall, my experience has been okay.

I call AHS to request another company and the agent told me to try them. When I asked again for another company, she put me on hold - I had been on hold for over an hour - then after another half an hour or so after she said she was looking in to it, the phone went dead. Didn't bother to calI me back. I figured I'd give this company, Red 1 appliance repair, a chance - also could not afford to waste more time on the phone waiting.

They were scheduled to come between 1 and 5 pm today. At about 3, I called Red 1 appliance to find out if they were in fact coming (and the reviews came true). Nobody answered and they did not return my message. I called AHS and was once again on hold for over 30 minutes - finally got to an agent who told me that he was going to call the company - left me on hold for another 45 minutes or so - then the phone went dead. Also, didn't bother to call me back. Sure enough, I got a call at 4:20 pm from Red 1 appliance to say that his truck broke down YESTERDAY and could not come and haul the dishwasher away so he wasn't going to come at all.

I asked him why he didn't let me know yesterday when his truck broke down so that I wouldn't have had to waste the whole afternoon waiting for him not to show - totally unresponsive and couldn't care less - I called AHS about 45 minutes ago and wanted to speak to a manager - want to find out why since I believe I am paying for decent service and AHS is hiring unprofessional vendors - am still on hold for a manager (56 minutes waiting now). I am looking around for another warranty company - it's amazing how they take my money with no waiting every month - but my time is worth nothing to them. DISGUSTING customer service!!!

I recently purchase a home warranty through America Home Shield. Prior to moving to my home, (homeowner) the washing machine and toilet were working prior to moving in. A couple days later the washer started dripping and wouldn't turn (spin). They called out Vertex home services out for services. They cancelled on me twice, 30 mins before service. Very unprofessional. They came back out today and stopped the drip but noted the spin was irreplaceable due to normal life expectancy and noted the home warranty would replace it.

I received a call from Teresa in the complaint department from America Home Shield and noted they couldn't replace it! But it clearly states in the contract that it is replaceable if it can't be repaired. She was very rude and unprofessional, evidence by cutting me off in conversation. I asked for a manager and she communicated that it wasn't no supervisors around. My AC went out 2 months ago. After about 2 weeks a technician from Xtreme Air came out they told me that it would be over $1000 to repair on top of my $75 deductible. But they recommended that I replace it, even though that wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Obviously I was shocked. The unit is 18 years old, and one of the main contributing factors to me purchasing a home warranty. The technician also told me that the issue was a result of a previous faulty repair, so the warranty company probably wouldn't cover it anyway.

Of course, the last repair was done through the warranty company, so I call them and tell them what the technician told me. They re-dispatch the last company (Consolidated Air) that repaired the unit the last time and told me that it was up to me to get them to fix the issue if they caused it. They also tell me that unless the unit cannot be repaired, they won't replace it, regardless of how old it is or the state it is in. On top of that there is fine print in the contract that they cover $10 per pound for coolant.

As a typical consumer I have no idea how much coolant costs. They proceed to tell me coolant is $30-120 per pound because it has been banned by the EPA, depending on the technician they send. But that they don't ask the companies ahead of time, you just have to pay whatever price is quoted. I was again shocked, how can they be responsible for picking the technician, and not know how much the repair would cost and not pick the one that has $30 coolant vs $120 coolant?

So I wait another week for Consolidated Air to come look at the unit. At the time, they tell me that they have diagnosed the problem, but will need to have their parts department get back to me with an estimate... After a couple more weeks I finally connect with the parts person (who had been on vacation) and am told that it would be $850 to fix it. I tell them what the warranty company told me, that they were responsible for the repairs... They said it wasn't their issue. After a long conversation, I finally agreed, I need it fixed, so just come on Monday and I will pay the fees. Monday comes and I get a call from them saying they are not coming, and that I need to call the home warranty company.

Now that it has been several weeks, when I call them, I then ask, can you replace the coolant with the "new" kind that isn't banned by the EPA? They tell me to talk to Consolidated Air to see if that would be possible and if so I could get $150 toward the repair. So, I call Consolidated Air, the guy tells me that it makes perfect sense to him, since the "old" refrigerant will be banned in 2020, that replacing it today would be "like putting new tire that you were going to sell"... and tells me that the parts guy would call me back. That was over a month ago. I have repeatedly called and no one has returned my call. I was told multiple times that the owner would call me. It has never happened.

In the mean time I have contacted AHS multiple times to tell them about the situation, and finally told them I would not be renewing my contract because this has been such a nightmare. I did ask if I did not renew would this repair still be covered, they said yes. They also told me if I hired a third party to fix the unit they would "try" to get the actual cost covered. The contractor who is fixing it tells me that it is a waste of money to repair this unit and that he can't believe any other contractor would recommend that. There is hail damage to the condenser, loose wires from the previous repairs, etc. etc.

I called AHS to ask them why they didn't just replace it, and they basically told me if I still had a contract, they might be able to do something, but since I didn't renew, I was on my own... I asked them if I renewed now would they repair and there was nothing they could do. Very long story to say, I do not recommend American Home Shield. I have used other warranty (BFS, 2-10) companies in the past that have been very good and had much better customer service.

There is no chat, no email, no way to reach them. It is totally unacceptable and abusive. Most working people cannot sit on hold for 1 hr plus. They owe us money for appliances we had installed because of their horrible selection, and you cannot reach anyone to find out the status. Their self proclaimed "state of the art" website is of no use at all and is anything but state of the art.

We've been with American Home Shield for five months. At the time we made the settlement, it was just brought to my attention that American Home Shield was there before and the point of their price was okay. We've put in a few calls for them on different things, they sent people out, and resolved the problems to our liking. When I call them, it's reassuring. I submitted a claim over the phone for an air conditioner, and my discussion with the rep was good and reasonable. The contractor came in, and evidently has been at this residence before with the previous owner and knew exactly what the problem was at the time. He went right to it and fixed it. It was straight to the point, and now everything's working as it should.

Summarizing what follows: Wait time for contractor appointment: unacceptable. Wait time for actual repair: unacceptable. Wait time to talk to a customer service person: unacceptable. Company policies are inefficient and need revamping. This company doesn't care about service, they care about the bottom line. We plan to cancel our policies with this company.

We have two policies with this company on two properties. And we have used them about 5 times. The first two time was for a broken cooktop. It took over a month (I think 8 weeks?) to finally fix the problem. And that was after multiple technician visits and harangues to the warranty company. However, they did replace the cooktop which is about the only plus I would give them. I wished I'd written a review then, but have forgotten the details of that painful experience.

Forgot, the only other positive thing I have to say is when you request service, it can be done via phone tree or website. Not a hassle. However from there things go downhill rapidly. I think policy for contractors is they have 48 hours to contact the client. However, I've seen other reviews that indicate contractors aren't so responsive or even competent for that matter.

Response time: If you are fortunate and get a good contractor, they make an appointment within a day. That's not my experience, though. Our first contractor for our present issue made an appointment for 5 days out. That was unacceptable, so I called the warranty company (on hold waiting for them to pick up for 50 minutes) and they gave me another company that was 3 days out. Once they come out, they analyze the issue. They don't fix because they must get approval. They must submit a request for parts or permission to fix to the warranty company. Once that is approval is accomplished, they then make an appointment to return. All this takes time, and if you are like us who have tenants or paying guests, you can't afford waiting a week or more to fix a problem. And that is my experience with this company.

We have ended up calling a repairmen outside of the warranty company to fix the AC issue ($200 out of pocket) and fixing the last issue ourselves (my husband ordered the part online and installed it himself ($75 out of pocket + $75 for the tech analysis visit) due to the fact we can't wait for the warranty company response.

Communication: Communicating with this company is a complete hassle. You get someone on the phone immediately if you are buying a warranty. However if you need to talk to a customer service person, to do anything other than purchase a warranty, you wait for someone to answer for a long time. I've never waited for under 30 minutes. My last call to them was a 50 minute wait. And I've had to call them several times. I've read other reviews where the person waited 2 hours or more!!!

Since we fixed the current problem ourselves, I wanted to cancel the technician's return. I talked to the contractor and they let their technician know, but she tells me I have to cancel through the warranty company. Ok, I face the prospect of calling the warranty company or going to their website. The website has a "cancel" button, but when pressed, it says you have to call them. Oh no! Everything you need to do means getting on the phone with them. And there is no option of leaving a message for a return call. I have to talk to someone and I'm not Looking forward to that hour + wait on the phone.

Approval for other repair people outside of their permitted list? Non-existent. So you can't get someone who can respond immediately and submit a repair bill to the company afterward. All contractors must be already on their approved list. Bottom line: this company sucks and we are cancelling our policies. That's more than $1000 a year they will lose from us.

We had a bigger water bill and we assumed there was a leak, so I called American Home Shield. They lined us up with a plumber, but we were a little frustrated. He didn’t do leak detection and was just going to start tearing up our yard so we said no. They set a new appointment with another plumber who did leak detection and found that the problem was not an underground leak, but the toilet. The contractor also went above and beyond and took care of the problem within 20 minutes, so my wife was very happy with it.

Every experience I had with American Home Shield was fine. The only issue I got is every time I call them, I’m on the phone for 45 minutes waiting to talk to somebody. They said it’s the only way they can do it and I doubt it. I usually call in and I haven’t used the online. Other than that, I have no complaints. They handled all my service claims for the last 5 years and overall it was very good.

Two and a half weeks passed and we didn’t receive a phone call, email or notification that our claim was denied. They said there was an electrical surge from lightning, but we didn't have any lightning and no other appliance was fried in the house. I’m considering leaving American Home Shield and finding another company. They needed to fix my air conditioning and it was a rough road. My air conditioning broke on a Saturday and the heat index was 95. AHS told me that it wasn't an emergency and that they wouldn't attend to it until the following business day, which was a Monday. Also, they could only refer me to one particular company which couldn't come out to my house until Wednesday or Thursday. They said that unless it was 90 degrees, it wasn't considered an emergency. I asked them about this and they just replied that it was their attorney who decides that. That sucks. There was no concern. The heat index was 95, so it was hot and very humid and I felt there was no empathy. There was no sympathy and though they had a policy of the temperature, the heat index matters.

AHS couldn't refer me to another company because they had already referred me to one, so I had to wait until they had time. This is not humane. I've slept somewhere else for a couple of nights and when it cooled off by day four or five, I've slept on the air mattress on my first floor. I've been paying these people for ten years and that's all they had to offer. When I finally got a quote from the company which AHS gave me, the AHS lady on the phone was very nice and told me that if I want to pick a different company to work with, I can get the quote, pay and then they’ll reimburse me up to a certain amount. I told her no and that I just want to get the repair done. She replied that it wouldn't hurt for them to send the information to me. So I replied that it’s fine and they can send me the information.

I made arrangements with the original company that they gave me and didn't have any issue with that. This was day 9. My AC broke on a Saturday, they came out on a Wednesday or Thursday, and then they were scheduled to come back and fix it the following Monday or Tuesday. A day before they were supposed to come, I called them to make sure that they were still coming but they said that my appointment got canceled. They said that American Home Shield told them that I wanted to find my own company and get reimbursed. I told them that I declined this offer but they said that it was put in as my preferred option. I didn't even know it was an option. As for the company that AHS referred me to, they gave me a discount because they saw that they listened to AHS when I was the one who had set the appointment with them and not AHS. I appreciated how they handled it.

I am completely displeased with AHS. They've raised their price almost every year. This coming September, I would have been with AHS for 11 years. That's plenty of money. I’m looking at a couple of different companies right now because when you really need some help and the people you've been paying for years don't help, they don’t deserve your money.

I filed seven claims on two air conditioners. The problem with American Home Shield is that if I have multiple air conditioners in my home and I have parallel failures. There's no way through their automation site that they can record that or report it. Those claims are submitted individually. I had one AC unit go out downstairs and one upstairs. Going by what the receptionist told me when I signed up for American Home Shield initially, she said that if I have a claim to call their automated site and I can wash my complaint there to be recorded and they'll get back with me. So, that's what I did.

However, when the guy came out, he only looked at one air conditioner. I told him I had parallel failures in my air conditioner but he said that he can't look at the other one because that would be another $100 service fee. He was already here and already knows that both the air conditioners are bad. So from the time I reported the initial fault to the time they actually repaired both my air conditioners ran over 14 days. I'm totally unsatisfied. I had to keep calling American Home Shield and every time I call, I ask to speak to a supervisor. The person sounded honest that they would advise the supervisor with my complaint. That didn't happen until a supervisor called me back after the eighth day. If there was something that I would say that needs to be revised, it's the automation process.

I'm a software guy and I understand. It doesn't take long to revise an automated process for reporting a homeowner's repairs. There needs to be a method for a homeowner to call in a parallel complaint. Both are unserviceable and I need to be able to report that claim otherwise the only option American Home Shield would give me on average is a 55-minute wait to talk to a human on their automated line. I know this because I called there four times.

That's totally unfit for the volume of money that American Home Shield is collecting from homeowners across the United States. American Home Shield can't tell me they can't reduce that call time to 50 minutes in average but that was my only option because I needed to tell someone I had parallel air condition failure. I had to go back and submit a work request for my second air conditioner and for some reason I'm supposed to wait a couple of days for them to call me back. But American Home Shield never called me back so I wound up calling them instead.

Their process is not working. It's just not the way they brief it as a brand new customer. I've dealt with American Home Shield before because I used to have it on my rental properties. It wasn't a big issue at that time because the owner reporting a single failure was always captured. But if I have multiple failures, how am I supposed to know that I need to actually call and talk to a human to have that complaint recorded. As a customer, it wasn't briefed to me. I'm a military vet and stretchered. American Home Shield tells me what to do and that's what I execute. If they don't tell me that, then they'll leave me out there trying to guess what the process is, maybe it's right or maybe it's wrong.

In this case, I got it wrong because the guy showed up and he wanted another $100. To fix the air conditioner, the air conditioning company would have been some great information that they do not accept credit cards. They only accept cash or certified check. So I had to have $1,200 on hand and then $800 for the second repair. Cash money is what they would like. These are some details that a customer should know in advance. I did not have a good experience, overall.

I had a leak in my pipe in the laundry room that ran through the attic. We called American Home Shield and set up an appointment. The contractor called before coming and arrived on time. He pulled in his truck into the driveway and got right to work. I checked and it seems to be fixed as there is no more water coming through the ceiling.

I also got American Home to look at my AC unit twice. It could be the lack of insulation in my home. My air conditioner is still not keeping things cool enough even after putting R-36 insulation in the attic. It needs to be replaced, but I don't think that they're going to do it. First time they filled up the Freon, and I was charged for more Freon. The one thing that I didn't understand is this: I know there's a way that they can recapture the Freon. There's something in the unit itself that's in the attic that looks like a radiator that they took out and replaced, and they did not show me the part. In my opinion, as a consumer, service people should always show you the parts that are being replaced. However, that's not the company, itself. American Home runs pretty smoothly through their app online to send somebody out, and their specific timing and their briefing are good. Their contractors are a little slow sometimes, though. Overall, it was a fairly simple experience.

I had two claims with my central air condition unit: one with the condenser and another with the evaporator upstairs. American Home Shield did a good job. But my problem with them is the waiting time period. I have to wait forever and sometimes, I'd be on the phone for hours before someone even come on the phone. But other than that, they're doing an excellent job. Their representatives were very knowledgeable and helpful as well

Another problem is with the independent service that was going to work for them who didn't seem to be knowledgeable on a few occasions. They told me that they couldn't do this and that because they weren't allowed to by working for AHS and I came to find out they were lying. I needed Freon in my unit and they said they got to charge it. Why didn’t they include it the first time? They're going to charge the unit and wouldn't do any pressure check and try to check the line to find out where was it leaking from, so I had a problem with that.

They came out two different times and I said they need to at least check and see if they can find out where it’s coming from. They went up the attic where the evaporator was, took a look at it and said it's not leaking there. But it was and they ended up changing that. Some of those people don't know what they were doing, refuse to do the work or just want to do the bare minimum. I asked for them to change contractors and it took me almost all summer to get it done but the unit is working as normal and the new one is working better than the old one. Everything is fine now and it was overall a good experience.

I have had several claims with American Home Shield in the last month. Currently, I have an ongoing claim for my AC. Submitting a claim over the phone always involves a long hold time. On average, there is an hour or more hold. While I've submitted some claims online, I have to call in if I want any kind of update or escalation. When I get to an AHS rep, they say that they're going to document and advise. I've found that 50% of the time, they don't do what they say they're going to do. Once, I called the next day to follow up on what their person was supposed to do the previous day and there was no indication that the previous conversation even took place.

Also, my interactions with their contractors vary. The plumbing people have been good. However, the people who have been doing their AC repairs have horrendous reviews on Google which say that the only reason these contractors stay in business is because AHS gives them business. Furthermore, when I talk to their agents and say that their contractors aren't living up to any SLA agreement because they aren't returning my calls, they say they have some title that manages that kind of service level agreement. Still, if they were managing it, they wouldn't have complaints that are over a year old. AHS is not holding their contractors accountable.

The contractor told me what the problem was and had him talk to my husband on the phone from right here in my living room to explain to my husband what the problem was. When he submitted it to American Home Shield, it was written differently from what he told us the problem was and American Home Shield said they don't cover that.

We got back a hold of him and I said he told me it was a condenser issue and asked why he wrote the work order as being a compressor issue when American Home Shield doesn't cover compressors. His exact words to me were that it was what they're told they have to write up which really ticked me off because that means they're told to write up what AHS doesn't cover. I told him somebody's going to contact me and talk to me about this issue because if they're telling me one thing and write it out as something else, that's not fair to me. We're paying for this warranty. But they worked it out and they agreed the unit was so old that they were going to replace the whole unit. American Home Shield covered the first thousand dollars of replacing the central unit like the paperwork says they would do and then we paid for the balance.

That's the first time that's ever happened with American Home Shield and I thought it was funny that they would tell a person how to write up what’s actually wrong with something so that they’re not responsible. But other than that, I love AHS and we've always been very satisfied with them. They decided they would do something and do the right thing and that's all that mattered.

I had two claims with American Home Shield in the last couple of months, one for HVAC system and the other one for electrical. I submitted one online and another on the phone and the service was nice. My only problem is follow-through. I paid contractors the service fee but American Home Shield didn’t have a record of it in their system. So they sent me annoying messages and emails about me owing them $75 which I did not. The contractors asked for payment so I wrote them a check as I always do. I even asked American Home Shield, “Can you tell me if he came back out and fixed the light on the outside of my house? Because one of them is not working.” The guy said they put the sensor on but the light still stays on 24 hours so that issue hasn’t been resolved. The electrician who came was excellent but I just don’t know where the failure is. I’ll call them back and find out what the response is.

Then on the furnace, the HVAC system, they sent an inexperienced technician out. This inexperienced guy looked at the problem, told me that I had a warranty and that AHS was not going to pay for them. He said I had to get the replacement part from the manufacturer. I wasted my time trying to do this only to find out that that was what AHS was supposed to do. Tracking down the system and finding the old receipt when it was done was just a little crazy. I had to pay $500 out of pocket for somebody to take the condenser out, to go over and get the new condenser. That was ridiculous and I am very upset about that. I was told AHS will reimburse me for my money but then they called me to say they have the part and they’re coming out. They told me I had to go back to the retail where I got the part from and have them to make the claim. It was just a long, laborious process as I was sitting in the house with no air conditioning for four days.

Those two are just tragic incidences. The best force they sent out was the electrician because he did what he was supposed to do. I haven’t filed a claim with AHS in years so for me to finally need them and have that experience, it's not a very nice one. So, I began looking at other home warranty companies with better service and I can work with. I just bought a plane in the summer for my mom who’s 87 years old. She can’t go through what I went through because that’s not good, so I called the other day to cancel both of my AHS policies. They’re trying to convince me to stay with them but I said no. I went with another company because I need service. I’m paying for service because that’s what I need.

While I was still on the phone talking to AHS, they already sent me the name of the plumber who would contact me, and I was like, "You're kidding me." Also, their representative explained everything. Tom from White's Plumbing came and measured. He ordered the hot water heater, picked it up and put it in. He cleaned up thereafter and put my doors back up for me. Since the repair, I have had hot water and the heater is working fine. I checked and it's not leaking. I've been really pleased with using American Home Shield.

It occurred during a terrible time of the year to be without air conditioner because of the heat and people being off for the holiday to process things. But it was wonderful. They followed up to let me know when the appointment would be kept and the tech was there at the scheduled appointment.

I asked the technician a couple of other questions regarding the heating and cooling and he was very knowledgeable. He also had a lot of sensitivity to the fact that it was mid-July in Alabama. He seemed to try and take care of the problem as quickly as possible. Overall, they were outstanding. I have worked in customer service for several years, so I always try to maintain reasonable expectations when I contact any company. That being said, my first experience with American Home Shield last week was, by far, the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Our AC stopped working some time in the night last Wednesday night. I logged into my AHS account online and requested service first thing Thursday morning. I knew right away, from viewing my account, the name of the vendor who would be coming out. I called said vendor just after 1:00 since I had not heard from them to see when they could come check on the problem. I was told they could not come until Monday afternoon and they recommended that I call AHS and ask for a different vendor.

After just over an hour on hold with AHS, I finally got to speak to a human being. I explained the situation and confirmed my address and phone number with the CSR. She said she'd be happy to help and offered to put me on hold while she called around to see if someone could come sooner. Somehow, she disconnected our call at the 1 hour and 16 minute mark. I assumed she would call me back since I had verified my contact information with her prior to being disconnected. I kept checking my online account to see if the vendor name had changed. No change and NO CALL BACK. Meanwhile, it's 90 degrees in my house and I still don't know when we'll have relief.

Three hours passed with no word, so I called another heat and air company on my own and set an appointment for the next day (Friday). Then I proceeded to call AHS back, since there is no other possible way to contact them - no live chat - no email address - just a phone number and the longest hold times I've ever experienced (all while listening to a pre-recorded message over and over and over... About how important my call is to them). At 1 hour and 17 minutes into the call, I was connected to a live person.

She seemed well aware of the excessive hold times and was eager to explain to me why her co-worker couldn't have possibly called me back, even though she had my number. She then informed me that they couldn't change the vendor because Monday afternoon was within the 48 hour window of service response. She made a snarky comment about our inability to endure the TX heat until that time (wow, that was a nice touch). I asked if there was any other way to contact them, besides phone, as I could not find another way on their website. She replied that she was not familiar with the website because she had not been trained on it. As I expected, she confirmed that if we went with the vendor we had called on our own, AHS would cover none of our out-of-pocket expenses. If they couldn't possibly change the vendor, what was the first rep doing when she disconnected me? She SAID she was finding me a new vendor.

Our AC was repaired on Friday by the company we had contacted on our own. We are out $400 for something that should have been covered by what may very well turn out to be a useless home warranty. I called the original AHS vendor and cancelled our Monday appointment. She said that if we changed our minds, to just call her back "because I know it can be difficult to get through to AHS."

We just purchased this home with the warranty through AHS, so we are stuck with them for a year. I hope someone there is reading all of the negative comments and actually formulating a plan to better service their customers. You are clearly understaffed and undertrained and there are easy solutions to both of those problems.

Our most recent claim with AHS was very nice. They had to come in and had to put a new mechanism in our oven that had caught fire. The AHS representatives made the arrangements for the technician to call us and so we followed through with what they explained to us to do and that was fine. The only thing is that when the fellow that was gonna do the work had made an appointment with us, somehow a piece that they were gonna put in got put on another truck so we had to reschedule and it happened to be during a time when we were having a bunch of medical appointments so that was kind of inconvenient. But the technician was fine and capable. He was here for not more than 20 minutes. He had to pull the stove out and everything but he left everything fine. We’ve been using the oven since then.

They did really good with this claim but the claim we had with the dishwasher was a fiasco. AHS had sent out Ram’s Appliances which was totally incapable. They kept coming out here trying to replace the seal on the dishwasher but they did not know what they were doing. They were just running up bills with the warranty company. So, we told AHS that we will not have those people back in this house. They finally got somebody who was capable to repair it and it took us four months to get our dishwasher replaced. There were three different companies that came out for that claim. Finally, they realized that the dishwasher was not repairable. I called the corporate office to get something done and that’s when AHS said they would replace the dishwasher after they had paid a bunch of money to people who were ignorant in coming out here. That was really hard.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, their phone choices don’t let you get there easily. They have to make you go through the entire phone system and it will ask you to say what you want but then they do not recognize it. It’s not very efficient and very difficult to reach somebody. I've done other claims online but used the phone recently. When we get a wholesome interaction with the representatives, it’s efficient, quick and they are able to respond. Usually, it’s to tell them what’s broken or what’s wrong, give them an idea of what we know about it because of the sounds it’s making or whatever happened to make it go out and give them information.

I had an AC unit that wasn’t working properly and from the time I filed the claim, it took two days for the contractors to come. They were efficient in coming out when they said they were going to. They were able to get an opening earlier in the day and they called and came out early. They knew what they were doing and it didn't take them very long to make a repair. It’s a pretty good experience but there’s always room for improvement. So far, AHS has been reliable and provides a good coverage that's needed from a warranty perspective.

My water bill was really high at $100. It's been like that for two months but I couldn't get straight what was going on with it. Earlier this month, I put dye in the toilet and I saw that the toilet kept running. I called American Home Shield and told them that I wanted to get somebody to come out and look at the toilet. There is usually a long wait on the phone if you submit claims that way and they give customers the option to go online, but I prefer to call and the reps are usually okay. The rep scheduled a time for their service people to come out and that took three days. Generally, the customer is not going to get the repair done immediately. One time, the AC wasn't working and I had to call someone else to get it repaired because it's not something that I can wait for three days to get fixed.

The issue that I'm going to have to call and speak to AHS about is the payment. They charge a $75 deductible fee when the tech comes out for a service call. If it's the AC, they charge extra for Freon if this is needed. There are also a few things that they have an extra charge for, like the hot water heater, but this is in the contract. But the thing that they started doing differently was the $45 monthly fee. I'm now paying $45 a month and $75 whenever the service people come out, regardless of what the issue is. Also, once I file a claim, they now want me to pay the $75 deductible upfront. But how can I give them $75 upfront when the service people haven't even come out?

When I first called and this happened, I called back and canceled the job because they weren't able to do the job in a timely fashion. But I still got charged although the service people didn't even come out. I called AHS and they rectified that. The second time I called, AHS suggested two options — my paying the deductible fee upfront or they would go ahead and bill me automatically three days after the tech comes with whatever credit card I have that pays the $45 monthly fee online. But they didn't bill me the $75 three days after. The service people called me back and said that they didn't get the payment from AHS yet and AHS told them that they would pay three days after. The service people asked me to pay, but I said that AHS told me not to pay the service people that are coming out.

This is something new that AHS started within the last month or two. AHS wants to bill their own way but they need to iron out how they're going to do it, if they're going to bill me automatically after they come or if I pay them upfront. But I wouldn't agree to do the latter because the service people might not come and I don't agree to paying for something before they get the item repaired. But the contractors are always fine and I'm prepared to pay them when they come.

Everything is okay. A $75 deductible is the going rate that most service people charge to come out, look at the appliance, and repair it. But once they repair the appliance, the cost is going to go higher if they have to order a part that I'd have to pay for. I'm also paying $45 a month which is good for the big ticket items like plumbing issues since I don't have to pay the usual amount to get the problem fixed. AHS was just trying to make some changes with the $75 deductible payment and paying $45 a month is not too bad. They do what they say and I get my appliance repaired without having to pay a lot of money. AHS is a good company and the system works.

I had a well pump that is the primary source of water for us where the pipe exploded. I called them on a Friday night when it happened. I called them and they said they’ll put a call in. I then found out about their 24-business hour perspective to get someone to respond, not necessarily to fix. It was a big expectations gap that I had. I called on Friday and they dispatched it to a plumber who doesn’t work on weekends. I called AHS back to say I can’t wait until Monday for this guy. They said they’ll try to escalate it within their network to within 24 hours and if they can’t find someone, I can use my own provider, pay for it myself and they will reimburse me. I was going to cancel the claim when they couldn’t find someone but they said no.

Then the guy comes out on Monday to say he could do the work Tuesday and that it’s gonna be $450 for me to do the work because the warranty doesn’t cover it. It covers the pump, not the pipe coming out of the pump. We’ve got to first fix it, then see if there’s a problem with the pump. His quote was ridiculous so I got my own guy who charged half of that and was done with it Monday night. Then I had call back to reschedule the claim. They issued it to the same guy who took 48 hours to come back out. It ended up being a two-week period by the time the guy came out and actually did the work after which he had to come back out two separate times to redo what he had done because it was not fixed properly. It was a timer switch that’s what’s was wrong and I told him about that from the beginning.

I sent a photo to prove that I had gotten the work done and paid for it separately so that the pipe was fixed before they release him. Every time I called AHS, I am told that’s just how it goes. They kept saying someone would call me but and then no one would. I went online got escalated to the online customer service manager who did make an outbound call, took in all this information, and finally dealt with it. She followed up with me personally but the call center was a disaster as with the contractor. This one here was probably the worst possible scenario in every step of the way. I wanted to cancel my contract but with AHS, but I’ve already paid for the year so I’ll make that decision next year when it renews.

I had another claim right behind that where I had an issue with the fan right above my stove top. They issued the contractor that’s been out for all my GE appliances. The guy was out in 24 hours, went above and beyond, fixed it, no problems the way I’ve had every other interaction with AHS go. I use my home warranty quite a bit over the four years and every one of them has had no problems and the contractors have been great. Overall, I gotta give them credit for four good years versus one that was really bad. AHS is pretty good enough and I would recommend my friends to it every time.

Our first claim with American Home Shield was done at the end of June. We went through the process of calling three different times to get our AC repaired. The first two claims were done by Intertech, and then Precision did the actual install of the unit due to timing restraint. The first two times that someone came out, they just blew in some chemical and added Freon, and neither times did that work. It was a little frustrating because it took us over a month to get our AC finally repaired the correct way. The third time we had a company come in, it was Precision, and we ended up being highly impressed with them. Intertech was okay. But this one-man show of Precision AC for Little Rock area did a wonderful job. The tech communicated, called, and told us every step of the way, what was going on, and just had great customer service.

From an American Home standpoint, I was a little disappointed with their company for customer service reasons. We spent the better part of our several hours on the phone trying to get someone to communicate with us on this last time that we needed help with our AC. One day, I spent close to three hours, trying to talk to someone there and no one has time for that. No one should have to do that. My husband also spent two hours on the same day, trying to contact someone. We also attempted to communicate online. My husband tried twice and was told he needed to call their representative, so that wasn't fruitful as well. We tried all aspects and got nothing.

We never got a clear response on whether someone was coming the next day, or if we were getting a company to come. The only time that we got confirmation was when the company that was coming called me two minutes before they were showing up. We never got any confirmation that all of our hard work on calling had ever yielded any benefit, and so I'm very disappointed with American Home Shield. We won't be recommending them to anyone. We are thankful our AC has been replaced and taken care of, but the amount of time that we had to spend to get our repairs accomplished was ridiculous. It was a disappointing experience, and there needs to be lots of improvement in the customer service.

They came out three times. When they initially repaired it, it gave air for a couple of days but I had to call them back. When they came back the second time, they put too much coolant in so it wasn't cooling. They had to let some out. Then everything's fine when the tech came back again. My air conditioning is now much better. I'll keep the company and I'll refer it to someone else.

I filed a claim with AHS for both my refrigerator, commode and dishwasher. The people that I've spoken to have been really nice. A replacement refrigerator will be brought tomorrow and the repair of my commode was excellent too, but the dishwasher hasn't been resolved yet. The first technician they sent didn’t get out the driveway and the water was running, but he wouldn't stop either so I called them. That was not American Home Shield’s fault though. Sometimes they have a hard time trying to find a contractor to come out. The technicians have been nice but it was only that one technician that I called and he had forgotten that he came out so he had to do a follow-up on it. But he did so many in one day so that's understandable.

So far, AHS has sent two people out to check my dishwasher and they’ve kind of been patching it up, but it still doesn’t work. They were looking for parts for it, but so far, I haven't heard anything. It should have been replaced a long time ago. American Home Shield people are very friendly and very apologetic but the process is slow. If I've been out on the appliance more than once, there's a problem. However, their techs assess it and it needs to be really fixed because I'm going to pay $80 or $90 for a service call. If they come out three times, I can go buy the washer with what I paid for them to come out. Other than that, I can't complain.

American Home Shield is a fiasco and nobody is able to service you. It’s very difficult to get through customer service and once you do and schedule an appointment with their technicians to come for whatever issue, they never show up. In my recent claim, the contractor had an excuse every time I called him. The last call was on Monday and he told me he forgot all about it. I called American Home Shield today to cancel the service and after waiting for about 36 minutes on the phone, somebody finally answered. But she's unable to cancel the service and had to send it to the cancellation department. She gave me the phone number and I dialed but gave up hope about 25 minutes into the phone call as it only rang. American Home Shield is not worth it and I do not recommend them.

We have had AHS warranties on 5 of our homes for over 5 years. We hardly ever file claims with AHS. One of our beachside properties has had A/C issues for several years and AHS sends out the worst rated companies and puts "band aids" on the problem. If you need to call them, you will hold for a minimum of 45 minutes to 90 minutes (actual times I had to hold). They are rude and do not properly repair as any other non-AHS contractor would recommend. Attached are the photos of the A/C unit that runs but does not cool.

The first company they sent said it was physical damage (as you can see it is due to age). The second company bold face lied to me and told me they were recommending it be replaced but submitted to AHS that "The homeowner just wants it replaced." I wasted two weeks trying to deal with this sham of a company. I have cancelled all of my policies and learned a very valuable lesson about thinking they will honor their warranty when something breaks. I would NOT recommend AHS to anyone!

My daughter Michelle who lives in Dallas submits the claim to American Home Shield for me and she does it online mostly. A month and a half ago I had a leak in the wash and dry area and in my sunroom. I didn’t know what it was so AHS sent somebody and they replaced the hot water heater. We found out later on that there was something else when I washed clothes and it leaked again so we called AHS. They contacted a different contractor who came back, finally worked on the leaking on the washing machine and got that done. And now it's working good.

AHS has taken care of the problems that I’ve had over the years and it’s been good. Most of us are not able to pay lump sums of money when something goes bad. Over the years there have been some things like water heaters, garbage disposals, dryer and air conditioner that they have replaced. So it’s been a good experience for me having them.

I asked AHS to send out another plumbing company who can finish the job. They refused to do it so I was stuck with the bad plumber. Instead I took a cash-out and found a competent plumber on my own. However, the cash-out was not enough money to cover the expenses I incurred to finish the job.

Recently I filed a claim for some electrical issues and was assigned a local Electrician. I waited to hear from then and when I did not I finally called them. The man on the phone said they were not doing work for American Home Shield anymore until they get paid from them.

I promptly called AHS and after several hours of different calls and being left on hold at one point for over an hour their solution was for me to find my own electrician and pay them out of my pocket. Then they would refund the cost to me; but wait they did not pay the electrician so will they really refund the money?? Oh and they have a list of electricians in the area they will no longer work with (I wonder why) so I have to find one other than them. Isn't the purpose of insurance to take care of problems that arise so the homeowner does not have to come up with thousands of dollars all at once to get it fixed??? THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

There was a stoppage in my plumbing, and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I had to leave a voice mail and went online, and my experience with them was good once they got out there. The contractors did a good job. There's no more stoppage, bubbling toilets, and backing up in the shower so, to me, it’s great. Also, I have a door on a dishwasher that has some trim around it, and in my contract, whoever services it should be able to take care of that. However, I still haven’t had that fixed because the contractor that was going to come out to service it does not do the trim, and they said I had to call AHS and get somebody else. That's been a headache but at least I didn't have them come out or waste a trip.

I had a conversation with AHS about my contract that that should be covered and the providing company said they can't. AHS obviously knew that that service didn't happen and so rather than me having to chase them back down, I wish they had been proactive to ask what happened and follow up to find out why, instead of just letting it go. This issue has been a grey area because I wanted AHS to interpret the contract and they agreed that that should be covered. Other than that, it's been a good thing to have American Home Shield.

It was really easy submitting a claim with American Home Shield. I made one for my AC. It stopped working. I did the claim over the phone and the wait time was not even 5 minutes. It was nice dealing with the AHS rep, too. The contractor's service was good. They came out and did a temporary fix because the motherboard went bad. Thank God they got my AC to work because I had my daughter and it was 100 degrees in my house. They got it where it would work and then, once the part came in, they came back the next day and fixed it.

My AC has been working great after the repair. It worked better when they put the new motherboard in. It's constantly going and shutting off instead of just running. Now everything's back to normal. I've always heard of people having bad experiences with home warranty companies. But everything went really smooth and simple with AHS. It wasn't like a big headache and it wasn't like in some places, you make 300 questions to have to do everything. I've already had a couple of people get a home warranty after the issue I had.

My experience with American Home Shield wasn't great. My first issue was the electrical problem I had with the house when I moved in. They sent a dude out who said he'd put a new breaker in and that's fine. What’s causing the issue was the ground wire up top that was leaning against the air-conditioner vent. I had Reliable Heating & Air come out and they fixed the problem $250 later.

Another issue I had was the air-conditioner. First, they said it was a leak around the nozzle where you fill it and supposedly fixed it. Obviously, it wasn't because I went through $500 worth of Freon. The next time, the guys said there was just a lot of debris around the condenser outside and cleaned up. But that wasn't the problem either. The third time, they still haven’t fixed the issue because they kept sending out the same people from Piedmont Mechanical. It took them two days to get back to me and some of their contractors are less than reputable, I think. I would never buy another one.

I had a horrible experience with American Home Shield up until my most recent experience. They sent some incompetent air-conditioning firm out here that could not fix my air-conditioner. BestWay Mechanical came out here three times. They looked at it and disappeared. For two weeks, I didn’t hear from anybody, and I kept calling AHS. I said, “I have a heart condition. I’m in here without any air-conditioning. What is the problem?” So AHS called the contractor, and the contractor claimed that there was a leak in the coil but they never showed me the leak. They said they want $1,100 and wanted to know if I was going to have it fixed. So I said, “Go ahead and do it.” I assumed they were reliable. So, they came out, fixed it and I paid $1,095 plus $75. But it wasn’t fixed. The thermostat said it was 78 degrees and it was set at 50 to get it to cool.

So I called AHS again. The same contractor came out and said “There’s nothing wrong with it. When the humidity is high, it’s not gonna cool the way you want it to cool.” I called AHS again and they said they would ask for a senior person to come out. But they sent the same person out. But this time, he came out, didn’t even do anything and walked out the door, and I never saw him again. I called AHS again and told them they sent the same person out, and he didn’t even touch it. Finally, they sent another company out and the man from the other company said that it just needed to be cleaned. So he cleaned it and it was fixed right away. They got it fixed the first time so I was very satisfied with them. But overall, this is the first time I’ve had a bad experience like this. AHS is using BestWay Mechanical but it seems no one is satisfied with them when I looked on the web under their company name and their reviews. I was cheated out of my money.

When I ask for service from American Home Shield I get good contractors but the problem is their billing. I had South Tampa Pool & Spa late May or early June and they did a great job of fixing the filter on the pool pump that wasn’t working which they had to replace. They have come here before and it was the same thing, they send the email, you go on the email, click on PayPal and you pay the $75 service fee. Then later about three weeks I had another service issue and when I went online to put in my service it said I owe a service.

I called and it took 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone. Then I had to hold for another 30 minutes while they figure it out and they eventually got in touch with South Pool and they said I have paid. Since then I’ve gotten two other letters. I just got one in the mail showing me 90 days delinquent for the same $75. I called South Pool Tampa myself and they said I’ve paid and that they’ve told them a million times. I have done about five calls just getting them to straighten that out.

And in between that I’ve also had three more service issues. One time the girl told me they were aware of the problem and so they are changing the issue. So she's going to take my card and two days after the service is finished they'll automatically bill me for it so I no longer pay the service guy. Then the guy from Sears came and he said I need to give him $75. I told him I gave the girl the card and she said I no longer pay to them because of the problems I'm having. They have problems like that and they have changed the system. The guy from Sears said he doesn’t know anything about that and that he can’t do anything until he gets a new service order. So I called and again and I was on a 30-minute wait. He’s standing there so he called and he got through. They gave him a new service order showing that I paid the $75.

Then two weeks ago I was trying to put in another service order and again it said I'm a delinquent. I called and wasted another 30 minutes. It's a good thing I work from home so I keep working while I put down the phone. I don’t know if they only have five people to serve the world and I said to her that maybe it's their billing issue that they are having so many calls and people have to wait so long. She took awhile and then she came back and said that they have confirmation that I have paid the $75. But it’s not gonna clear that I have paid until August. I don’t know if I’m going to sign up with them again. This is ridiculous and annoying. I’m really upset with them and I would not recommend them. No customer should have to call more than four times and still have the same issue.

We just dealt with the whole AC unit situation. The American Home Shield people were trying to do their best, but the first company they sent out didn’t know what they were doing though I tried to explain it to them on more than one occasion. We ended up calling the people that installed the AC unit because we didn’t trust the first contractor initially. We have two different units and the first time a tech came out, there was a leak coming in the master bedroom. He checked one of the units and all he did was look at the drip pan which I had already dried so there was no more leak. He ran some air into the drainage line and asked when I last had my unit serviced. He said he would service the unit so that I won't have any problem. I told him to go ahead and I paid an additional $180 for the service fee. He didn’t bother to look at the other unit.

We had to get on a plane to El Paso the very next morning and when we came back, the house was still piping hot so I called AHS who said I should do a recall. When I did that, the same company came out and the guy said that’s not the unit he serviced and I had to make a separate call to AHS so they can put in the request for him to come back out again. So I paid two service fees which took over two weeks to get it straight because the first time AHS put it in, they put it as a recall. The company refused to come out because they knew they weren't going to get paid for a recall, so back and forth with the phone on the line. They finally cleared it out and put a new one in.

On the second visit, he said the problem was a power surge and they need a compressor and a transformer. This doesn't make sense and AHS is not going to cover any of this. So my husband called the company that installed our unit, they came out, and in two hours, they had our stuff fixed. They said it was a bad transformer and it cost us $286.00. When I finally got to the supervisor of authorization, she understood my frustration. At the end of the day, AHS made it right because the supervisor approved the outside authorization and they're going to reimburse us.

It was almost a month that we were without air and it was tough because it’s the downstairs unit where the bedroom is. I would recommend AHS to friends, but they’ve got to get better at their customer service and their ridiculous call time wait. And when we called in the first time, we got the email about the vendor two days after I called. I got their information so I called them directly and asked when are we on their list to come out. They told me we're on the list for next day. But a few days later, AHS was still awaiting a response from them. Unfortunately, they were having problems submitting their trouble ticket to AHS but they didn't tell us. AHS is a great warranty company but the vendors are what's making them look bad.

Our AC unit initially had water in the ductwork and the water started leaking between the doorway. It started dripping, almost like a little pour, up to the point, where we had to put a bucket. Home Shield sent someone out to check what was going on. The first that came out looked around and said he didn't see any water so I told him it's in the duct work so he won't see it. Then he saw there was water but he said he didn't know if he could repair it or not. I said it wasn’t a problem and Home Shield will send somebody else and surely, they did. The other company basically didn't understand why the first man didn't fix it and was trying to point fingers by saying that the last company put it in wrong.

Another company was sent out, which said the problem should’ve been taken care of because all that water needed to come out of the ductwork to see what's going on with that area. Home Shield sent the same company back and they repaired a little something saying it was an elevation problem, but it still didn't fix the problem. They told Home Shield that we needed to buy about 15 pounds of Freon and we were going to have to pay $40 a pound 'cause AHS only paid $10 a pound. My husband said he wants a second opinion because the guy told me he didn't know what the problem was. I don't want to pay $600 if we didn't know what the problem was.

The last man that was sent out was good. He went up, told us what was going on, suctioned the pipelines, put a little cap or tubing on and from what we can tell, the ductwork has been dry so far. Overall, AHS doesn't have a problem taking my money, but they have a problem responding to my claim. I’m very dissatisfied and I wouldn't recommend to anybody.

My experience with AHS was excellent as it has always been.

We had an issue with our AC unit that went out and so we called American Home Shield. A technician was dispatched and he was extremely professional. He kept us in the loop on when he was coming because he was running a bit late. He called us to let us know that he was still on the way and that he had a couple of calls which ran longer than expected. The technician came in and looked at the AC. His initial diagnosis was correct. It was the capacitor that had gone out. As soon as he hit the fan on the AC unit, it started. And so, he changed the capacitor. All in all, it took him 20 minutes to do the repair. He got the problem fixed and everything has been working fine since.

AHS is good at collecting your money but not good when it comes to servicing. I called them once back in May and then again on 8/5/17. Each time the wait to talk to a customer service rep was over 45 minutes. When I called for service in May, I was told that refrigerator is not covered but the fans are. The rep advised me to remove fans and add refrigerator which he did. I scheduled service for refrigerator online. I had to call the shop multiple times just to come out and look at the refrigerator. It took over a week to come out. When they did, I was told they have to order the part. It took them 3 weeks and multiple reminder calls to get the part and fix the refrigerator.

However, what is more upsetting is wait times to talk to accounting and/or customer service. When I spoke to AHS sales team on in May, they did something which triggered an invoice of $291. They have continued to charge my credit card for monthly payments and denying service stating I have not made monthly premium payments. I had to send them copy of my credit card statement to show that charges have been made on my credit card. Today, 8/5/17, I have been on the phone for good 4 hours with AHS already and still no resolution. Billing is telling me that Sales needs to fix the issue of billing of $291. Sales is saying it's not their issue and billing has to fix it.

I've had to call American Home Shield twice, once with the dryer and then with my air conditioner. The two companies that have come out have been professional, they fixed it and we were on our way. I've nothing but good experience. There was no problem submitting the claim when we had an issue with our air conditioner. The contractor came when they said they would be there, the contractor identified the problem and the air conditioner was working within an hour of being diagnosed. The guy thought it was a lightning surge that got a capacitor severed.

I'm going to continue to have the service but I was disappointed that it's not a weekend thing as well. I did not know that they respond in business days, and our air conditioner went out on a Friday afternoon so it was a long weekend. But once they got the claim that Monday they had someone there the next day. A dryer won't be a big deal, but it was hot. I have two buddies that have signed up with American Home Shield since I've done it. The monthly cost is a minimal investment for home protection and I'm very happy.

I submitted a claim for a Whirlpool bathtub pump replacement. American Home Shield took care of it but it took a while. I had to go out and find a contractor myself because American Home Shield couldn't find one. There were people in the area who were willing to work on the pump, but American Home Shield did not know about them. They didn't have a database of local contractors here. I found a guy and had to get the authorization. But after that, the guy decided not to do that job. He didn't want to go through the paperwork.

Before that, American Home Shield put me in contact with someone out of Atlanta, which is an hour and a half away. The appointment was all set up and ready to go. However, the contractor didn't show up. I had to call American Home Shield and then they called him. The contractor set another date but didn't show up on the second date as well. And then, the contractor decided not to come at all. So, it was an ordeal getting someone out here. I had to do a lot of the work myself.

We went back to the original contractor that AHS had me contact here in town. They said they didn't do pump replacement. They only worked on the plumbing in a spa. So, that went out the window. Then, we started getting all these other contractors who didn't show up. And then, I went over and actually talked to the first contractor, Ridge Plumbing. I got a hold of the owner of the business and I showed them what needed to be done. He said it was a simple job and I just persuaded him to take the job. So, it ended up being the first contractor, but originally they didn't want to do the work.

It's a good idea to have the home warranty when you purchase a new house but I didn't want to renew it. This is a renovation project in the house and all appliances are going to be replaced. The hot water heater has already been replaced and that wasn't under warranty. Also, most of the things are going to be under warranty from their original manufacturer. So, there is no need for the home warranty.

We had an issue with our central air conditioning unit but dealing with American Home Shield was a challenge. I called them and they sent a third part contractor out. He did what he needed to do but he could not fix the unit and the unit needed to be replaced. He explained the issue and he said that he would write everything up and submit it to American Home Shield.

We replaced the unit but American Home Shield didn’t cover it. The technician submitted his report to American Home Shield and what he said was that the unit had failed. In the report, he indicated that it looked like a rodent had chewed some wires. Because of that, American Home Shield refused to cover a replacement. They said, “Well, a rodent chewed it, so we're not covering it.”

I have the contract and it clearly states that they don’t do pest. But if my unit has been full of bugs, I would have understood that but I can't control those circumstances. It's not like we abused the unit, we protected it and had it covered. We had a very semantic heated discussion over the word pest versus rodent. It escalated all the way to the executive level but they said “Look, we don’t have to cover it if we don’t want to. We can refuse any claim any time for any reason.”

I have a new AC and we had to pay for it out-of-pocket because they closed out the claim. I'm not going to renew and I haven’t sat down long enough to cancel my coverage with American Home Shield. I'm not going to do business with them if they're not going to cover anything that happened. There are just so many stories out there and I'm one of those many where they just want to collect premiums but they don’t want to pay anything out. My furnace failed in 2012 and American Home Shield did cover that. It's one of those things when it magically stops working, they’ll cover it.

It's almost smarter for a consumer to not use them because it doesn’t make any sense. They’ll cover it, but if there's any cause for a failure, then they're not going to cover it. I have been paying monthly premiums for almost six years now and they hide behind legal language and they can refuse any claim at any time and they have no problem telling you that. We didn’t seek them out to do business with them, the home warranty came when we purchased our house and we just continued to renew. They really don’t cover a whole lot and my word of advice is if you don’t use them within the first year, don’t renew.

I don't typically write reviews. But as I sat on hold for 30+ minutes waiting for someone to pick-up my service call, I thought what better way to use my time than to write a complaint (there was no readily apparent option to send written feedback on the AHS website. They seem to select only positive customer service reviews to post on their website.)

We requested service several days ago. The company that was identified to do our work called the next day but we did not hear the phone ring. 30 minutes later, we attempted to call back both the number in which the call came in as well as the call back number left in our voice mail. No one answered either. There was no option to leave a message. On the call back number, we several times received a message that stated "Busy". No one ever called us back. I don't completely blame AHS for this initial miss. What I do blame AHS for is exceedingly poor service recovery.

I called AHS for a status update, gave my info to the automated system, and then was transferred into limbo. I hung up and called again, this time requesting new service. Here I wait. There is no place on the AHS website to send a note stating that we have a customer service issue. You check these things out carefully when sitting on interminable hold for a representative. To be fair, when you request AHS service online and it works, it is an extremely smooth process. Like a bell curve, sometimes the repair people are excellent, sometimes just okay. By and large it is acceptable. However, when it doesn't work, the customer is punished by having to spend (now 40 minutes and counting) to get through to a customer service representative.

So, advice to AHS management. Make sure your status update service works pristinely. Because when someone calls for a status update, it means they're not getting service. Now you're taking both a customer service delivery and customer service recovery hit. Tick tock. So, now 50 minutes on hold. A voice message comes on every 5 minutes to tell me "Your call is important to us". Well, if I were that important, you would either have more people working your customer service line OR like other companies ask if you would like me to leave a message with my phone number and you can expect a call back in ## minutes/you won't lose your place in line. But no.

On a positive note, at least their hold music is not cracking and giving me a headache. They switch to a new song about every 2 minutes. But getting some repeats now that I'm paying attention. Definitely an instrumental loop every 10 minutes. And yes, now 60 minutes on hold. Their customer service reps must get ** mints as a benefit. If I wasn't writing this review, I'd be ready to tear someone a new one. Tick tock. Dang, a pause without music but now it's back. What a tease. Now 70 minutes on hold. Well, this review might serve as both a great example of AHS customer service quality as well as a case study in passive-aggressive review writing. Tick tock. Not to disappoint, I will stop when someone picks up. 75 minutes and someone picked up.

AHS has the worst customer service. We moved into our new house, had the vents cleaned and the furnace cleaned. Furnace had two broken parts. AHS said they were pre existing and would not cover them since (and we have heard several excuses) because "they were broke before you bought the house" even though the home inspector had the furnace running just fine. IMPORTANT if you buy a house in the summer and find yourself in a similar situation, DO NOT call them. Wait, because if we had waited until fall and then called I feel they would of covered it. But since we just moved in I believe they think we are trying to pull a fast one on them. Not the case.

Let me tell you about their customer service. Good luck getting someone who knows anything about customer service. Snotty, clueless and not at all educated about any of what they are suppose to be talking about. When I asked about my concern about the furnace guy checking for carbon monoxide the lady I talked to had not a clue what I was talking about. She could barely pronounce it and when I asked her if she knew what I was talking about she said no that her boyfriend probably takes care of it. Yikes. Educate and train your people AHS.

ALSO... if you are buying a home warranty be careful because it is a real racket on what they say they will cover and what they really cover. There is no urgency to get out to your place to fix anything. That was obvious when we had a gas leak and they wanted us to turn the gas off and someone would be out to fix it in 4 or 5 days. Really... give me a break. We paid for that one by ourselves because we were so frustrated and gas leaks are serious to us, normal people, not AHS people. JUST SAVE YOUR MONEY IN A OLD PICKLE JAR FOR REPAIRS VERSUS SPENDING MONEY WITH THESE FOLKS.

I’m a long-time client and I had trouble with some of the repair people AHS called several years ago. One guy came to fix a leaky toilet and the toilet was still leaking when he left, so AHS sent somebody else. This summer, American Shield sent someone to fix my air conditioner. They decided it was a leak in my line from my air conditioner to my house. I paid $400 to $600 to have that fixed and the Freon refilled. The next time I turn my air conditioner on, it still wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield and they called that repair person. He would not come back, so they sent someone else who came in and said my condenser needed repairs inside. I spent a couple of weeks in a hot house, but they fixed it and I spent about $1,000 in all. AHS gave me credit for the first repair, which I appreciated. They gave $10 a unit in credit for the gas that air conditioners need. In St. Louis, it’s $85 or $95 a unit.

I got a new policy number, so on June 12 I called to make sure it’s going to be on my credit card going forward to keep my monthly bill up ‘cause I pay on a monthly basis. However, when I needed them in an emergency situation, I could not get any help. I had a drain line from the house that was backed up and I couldn’t flush the toilet. It was over 100 degrees and I had company coming, so I needed a sewer guy to fix it and called American Home Shield. I was on hold for 35 minutes. I gave up because by then it was 5 o’ clock and I had to get somebody. I went online to American Home Shield, and they said my policy had been closed and no longer effective. I got the billing number, got offline and called. It said my policy had been cancelled for non-payment and I owed $600 plus.

I put in the number to talk to a representative to tell them I called a few weeks ago to make sure they had my credit card number. If they go back to June 12, they will find a recording that I gave my credit card and told them to charge it every month to make sure I had continuing coverage. I was on hold for 10 minutes. By then, I was afraid I wasn’t ever going to get anyone to unplug my line from my house that night. I hung up and hired an outside sewer guy that came and spent several hours here. It cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket that I shouldn’t have had to spend because American Home Shield would not pick up and because they had canceled my policy even though they had my credit card.

I saw an email that asked about my most recent experience, but I didn’t respond and assumed they were talking about the air conditioning problem, not the time I was trying to reach them when I needed them. They have poor customer service and I’m not happy with American Home Shield right now. I’ll find another policy or I'll pay going forward. I would have liked to have kept it if they had a better response time this last time, but when you’re in an emergency in your house, sitting on hold for 35 minutes is unacceptable. If they want to call and talk about fixing my problem, I would consider a discussion with them.

I called AHS back and they said whatever the electrician says, it’s the right way to go. Another time, I had AHS come out to fix the toilet and the guy they sent said he fixed it. But they he said they didn't cover the wax ring on the toilet even though it was loose so I had to pay extra for that. It’s ridiculous and a scam. I’m not happy with AHS and I’ll never use them again even though I paid for it. They're not worth the money. They don’t know what they’re doing and, if they do, they’re sending people out here anyway, even though they know the claim is not covered. So I have to pay them plus the $75 fee. I'm very dissatisfied and I wouldn’t recommend AHS.

Our sump pumps went and American Home Shield took care of everything. All I had to do was call up, push a couple of buttons on the phone, and they got back to me via email and text, and I scheduled everything. It was really easy. The contractor that came out was great. We haven’t had any problems with the sump pump since the repair.

I had an issue with my air conditioner and the company that American Home Shield had, Comfort First Heating and Cooling was outstanding. I called them and they were here the same day. I was expecting that it would be a little bit because I live in a rural area. I had to take off and leave work to go home and meet them that same day, which was very nice because it was 90 degrees in those days. The way the young man, AJ, described it to me was I had gotten some loose wire and it grounded itself. His father was the owner and he was the supervisory individual because he took several calls while he was at my house from his other employees which did not bother me one bit. I'm a businessman as well so I understand.

He went through, took his time and diagnosed it. He found out that my capacitor wasn't working at 100 percent so he went ahead and replaced it. He then took it step-by-step of what could it be. He was concerned and ended up being able to fix it properly. However, AHS only cover $20 a pound of Freon and it is $85 a pound. For no fault to them, it’s their policy. If it would have been a compressor, I was told it would have been covered. But to recharge a new system, we need 10 pounds of Freon so I paid 650 bucks and that have been expensive on my end paying all that. Also, they replaced the capacitor because he said it was underperforming. He checked it with them, got a monitor and it should be working at 10 but it was only working at 4 so he went ahead and replaced it. Then he said that it's not the issue because the AC didn't kick on so he kept digging and digging and finally found the issue. But we need not pull the compressor out.

I was very, very, very pleased and anything dealing with Comfort First Heating and Cooling has been working fine. Everything is running professionally. I would recommend both companies especially AHS to my friends after things like this.

I've had some successful claims with American Home Shield but I had a horrible experience with them. My most recent claim was on my hot water heater that was leaking from two valves. I called for it to be repaired. I submitted my claim online and I found their website to be fine to navigate. There wasn't a lot of interaction on the phone. I went online, requested service, waited 24 hours, then somebody called me from whoever they assign my case to. This occurred during near the weekend so we had to wait over the weekend for that. We had water from the hot water heater because the valve was failing when it would build up pressure when you use the hot water heater. It was flooding a corner in our garage.

I would go out four times a day and sweep the water out so that we don't damage to our drywall or floorboard in the garage while waiting for our appointment. But then 24 hours before the contractor came out, we stopped using the hot water heater so that it wasn't flooding. When he came out, we didn’t have a flood. The contractor was great and wanted to make a repair. I think he diagnosed it correctly. He wants to replace the two valves. When he reported back to AHS, I talked to somebody who left a message who condescendingly said that the valve is a pressure valve and that's what it does. I then told him that it's not supposed to flood my garage. The contractor argued with him for about 25 minutes in the truck and I stood there watching while they did that. AHS said they would not pay the claim. After a week and a half of fighting with AHS, I went out and bought a new hot water heater that I did not need to buy.

Another claim we had was for our refrigerator. It was aging and started failing. AHS told us that the part we need was not available anymore, and insisted that they take the unit for 6 to 8 weeks to fabricate the part and solve the problem. It was not a good solution and we did not allow them to do that. I told them I can't afford to lose my refrigerator for such a long time and I'm going to lose my food. I told them that they should be replacing something if they can't fix it, but they go out of their way not to replace anything. We told them that we'd buy a new one and we went to Sears' scratch and dent. However, they wouldn't allow us to do that. We had to go buy a brand-new one or they wouldn't cover it. It’s just we didn’t care if it had a scratch on the side, but they wouldn’t cover it then if we did that.

So, I'm not happy with them. But that’s how AHS works. I've had them for years and on three different houses. One rental, one investment property, our other house we just sold our house last year and bought a different one. I’ve had them for years. They go out of their way to not pay a claim. That's their way of working. I already sent them a letter and they've already responded to it. I don't think it's going to help them improve. It's very silly to go out of their way to not pay things because of all the people who scam them. I have a home we bought for my parents to live in when the market was good.

We've had AHS on it for 10 years. Since we found it, I've never turned one claim in on that. I'm not a thief but there are people out there who scam them and I'm the one who gets punished for it. They make it so difficult to have a claim because of the bad people. We're not big claim abusers. If it's something simple, we just go take care of it ourselves. It's a lot of pain. I have them because I think it's necessary. I dread having a problem. I wish they were interested in paying valid claims.

The refrigerator was freezing up and the condenser unit fan had busted. The tech knew what it was as soon as he got here but had to order a part which took four days. Nevertheless, I’m highly satisfied with the repairs. Also, the contractors were always professional. I know who it is before they come and I’d get a call usually that day from them. AHS charged my credit card on file for $75.00 without my knowledge. Called twice to AHS. No help. I can get same repair done probably in $100.00 without AHS service contract. I am really disappointed with dealing of AHS.

I have had AHS in the past and I have had a very good experience. However recently after having renewed my coverage I am very disappointed with the service, especially when calling to request service. Whenever I called I was put on hold for longer than 45 minutes. This is unacceptable! When I made my request (freezer was leaking) it was on a Sunday... I was told the earliest will be on Tuesday between 8-12 noon. Well Tuesday by noon no one showed up. I called AHS and was told that the service call was for a week from Tuesday between 8-5pm. Again, unacceptable. I told them I need someone out immediately. They sent another contractor, they came out, figured out the problem and now waiting on parts.

While waiting for more than several days I found out that I didn't have coverage for my appliances. Well I would think that your representative would have told me that instead of overriding my contract and taking $75.00 out of my account. I called the corporate office several times and I will be getting my money back via check. Needless to say I canceled my contract with them. I will not recommend this company to ANYONE!!! For this company to be considered #1 (although I don't know how this is) there should be no way you should be on hold for no longer than 5 minutes. I had to cool down before even writing this review... otherwise this would've been a lot harsher in word usage.

My God, where do I start? Well first of all, if you ever call in, expect to be on hold for 30 minutes minimum and may last over an hour. My biggest issue with this so called highly rated company (self-congratulatory lies), is that their customer service reps NEVER do what they say they will do. I had a plumbing issue where I needed to have the same plumber come out for the same problem within a week of the initial visit. I was tired of waiting on hold forever, so I decided to create another service request online. Gigantic mistake! I was told that would create a new work order and a new service fee. I quickly realized this and called back to correct the situation.

All of the following has been thoroughly documented: First Rep named Gwen says she will erase new work order and put back on previous work order so I would not get a new service fee. **!!! AHS sends me a notice that I forgot to pay the new service fee!!! I call the second rep named Lawanda (guessing on the spelling), and she tells me that she will send a email to the plumber to correct this. **!!! No email is ever sent because I keep reminder notices that I need to pay new service fee. I call a third time and spoke to Tamika and told her to speak to Marcy at Mr. Rooter to clear this crap up. Tamika calls Marcy and the situation is resolved supposedly. Tamika says that she will issue a request from her billing dept to take off this new service fee. Tamika says it will 2-3 days. **!!! Two weeks pass and guess what, the new service fee is still on the account.

I call a fourth time and ask to speak to a manager, and this rep named William tells me there are no managers! What kind of call center is this that has no managers = PURE MAJOR CRAPPY CUSTOMER SERVICE INDICATOR!!! He proceeds to tell me that a manager will call me in 24-48 hours. Guess what, **!!! I never get a call. So all my calls, all of me waiting for hours on the phone, all of my explaining has amounted to ZERO EFFORT from AHS. All their reps basically tell you ** lies to simulate customer service, but in reality do absolutely nothing. I have everything documented and recorded (yes in Texas it is legal), and I will use this in court if I have to. I have everything documented but none of the reps keep notes on any conversations or basically ignore previous notes (sparsely noted).

If you look at this company's rating at BBB you will see many complaints. The only high reviews on the web for this company is from home warranty review sites which are all bogus and are self-perpetuating their bogus claims of good customer service. To all people who read this, do yourself a favor and read the complaints. There is an accumulation of evidence to corroborate my story here.

I am calling them for the 5th time today and if the situation does not get resolved I will quit them for sure (however, almost all home warranty companies are about the same = you pay service fees, monthly fees, and get mediocre service and repairs in return). If my situation doesn't get resolved, I will go to many review sites as possible and leave very negative reviews about this company (this review was written to alleviate some of my frustration, short of driving to their call centers and screaming at them). It is the least I can do for all the time and effort that I wasted with this company. Be forewarned potential AHS customers, you will suffer!!!

This company will send cut rate contractors to damage your house and then charge you for the privilege! Caveat emptor, any insurance scam like this should be illegal but in this day and age it is up to the consumer to smell a rat like AHS and avoid it. My wife and I bought a house in January and were forced to buy a home warranty (NC state law) so we went along with it. Then we found a rusted out pipe under our sink was leaking so I called American Home Shield to try to get it fixed.

They sent Sam from Home Services of the Triad, he proceeded to break the drain out of our sink, waste 2 hours trying to fix that damage (it leaked afterwards) and cracked the drain pipe elbow in the wall. He then asked how I wanted to pay... Now the home warranty company wants $75 for a "diagnostic fee." This is effectively theft, they stole money from me after promising to fix plumbing/electrical problems. When I called to complain my only recourse was to get $40 back out of $465 I paid them 7 months ago. TLDR; save your money and learn to do your own plumbing work or call someone that you trust.

I recently signed up for American Home Shield (AHS) as a precautionary for my home that house my family and I. I called and spoke with "Jerry" who assured me that my family's property would be protected and I would have no stress in making any repairs or any account adjustments. He said all I would have to do is call customer service line or wait my 30 days waiting period to initiate a claim online and then we would have 30 additional days from that "activation date to cancel and receive a full refund.

Well lo and behold, with the storms that have gone through the midwest, my family's backup sump pump is failing (water powered and is leaking and at times spraying). So I logged in online to submit a claim on 08/01/17 at 1:17 PM, received a notification a contractor would contact me within 2-24 hours. I am sitting here on my laptop at 11:30 PM and have not received a notification or contact from the IWIG Plumbing contractor as clearly texted to my phone (Evidence). Sump pump still leaking and getting very aggravated.

When I have attempted to call AHS approximately 13 times now at all given numbers listed by BBB, the email received to confirm we had a contract, AHS.com (which has a contact section, that briefly displays a section "let us contact you" form that disappears in seconds of opening the link), Consumer Affairs, Yellow Pages and have been on hold for up to 2 hours and then disconnected by AHS!!! That is enough to make a content person go insane.

That hours of my life spent trying to have faith and rectify a problem that has kept me from family time. This is very wrong for a home insurance company to not be reachable by its consumers. I will be putting all efforts into canceling this so called "insurance" and getting my refund. Still have a service request that will now be on my family, which has just had a new addition to our family. Thanks a lot AHS for being another company that takes and not gives two cents about its clients! American Home Shield, should you be reading this, someone needs to call me so that we can cancel my contract and get me a refund. You have failed to hold up to the contract that verbally arranged and agreed upon, this is what is called breach of contract and extremely bad customer service.

Yes, my claim with American Home Shield has been resolved outside of ConsumerAffairs. A representative from the company called me yesterday. The insurance claim has been resolved and all personnel I had dealings with at American Home Shield were pleasant. The representative has assured me that the company is working to rectify the extremely long telephone wait times in the call center and the inability of consumers to get in touch with the company for services. Should the issue at the call center be cleared up, I would provide a new star rating of 4.

    Original Review: Aug. 3, 2017

Reason for review is broken air conditioning unit. My experience was horrible. It took me three days in the hot Louisiana heat to get through to customer service with call volumes so high that the minimum wait times during the day and early evening hours were over an hour. What was interesting is that when I called the sales line in hopes of getting another call in number, there were no wait times for the sales department. This company is sure to staff up and sell the home warranties to people but they don't staff up to service the issues that people are having with their homes.

Even more interesting, is that the sales people - a) always suggested that I call after 10pm (which was still a minimum 30-minute wait time); and b) could not provide me with any other contact numbers to complain about the inability to get service. I don't think this company realizes that people can't be expected to call them in the evening for service when we have jobs to go to in the morning!

To add insult to injury - Once my air conditioner was serviced for the FIRST time, they sent out an inexperienced tech and the gentleman couldn't find the A/C leak so he ultimately decides to just put a liquid 'leak fix' in the unit. Not even a day later, I am now on round two of contacting the customer service department with American Home Shield because the unit is still broken. And once again I was told earlier today by the sales people that I needed to call this evening after 10pm. I just got a second visit set up, but this has to be unethical for a company to sell more policies than they can actually service??? This company has no concept of what the words "customer service" mean. I'd love to know their call abandonment rate, their average time to answer calls, and their customer service satisfaction rate for service calls.

American Home Shield is a complete waste of money. The definition of insurance is to transfer risk. When purchasing our home a little less than a year ago, we bought insurance to transfer this risk of potential problems including plumbing. After discovering a leak in the upstairs bathroom, we paid the $75 deductible for the contracted plumber to fix. The plumber cut a hole in our Sheetrock and looked at the problem. The trap is an older trap and apparently not up to current code. American Home Shield denied the claim as to repair the problem is "bringing the home to code" which is not covered in the legal ease of the contract.

So, after sitting at the closing table with the realtors a few months ago concerned about these potential problems we were sold on a warranty which would cover these very such repairs. Then an issue arises and the company hides behind contractual language. If this isn't a bait and switch, I don't know what is. Feel free to pay good money for something that doesn't exist especially if you enjoy wasting money. It's like any insurance company that will screw you at the first opportunity possible.

I do not know what company your southern US customers are referring to, but AHS out here in Arizona sucks. It is not the repair companies and individuals who come to do the service. They are generally very polite and competent. It is the AHS headquarters system from getting something scheduled to getting it approved for repair to getting it repaired and/or getting reimbursed.

Right now it took a couple of days to get the repair scheduled. Then the repair company told me they had to order a part, not sure how long it will take to get it or install it. It is 105 degrees here in Phoenix. Plus this is the third time this company has been sent out to repair this unit this year! This is unacceptable. Trying to talk to a live person is difficult, and, usually disappointing. The last time I was on the phone with the customer service person for 45 minutes, asked to be switched to a manager three times. Finally was told a manager would call me back the next day. That was over a week ago. Today when I called to see if I can expedite the AC issue, the system said I would be on hold over an hour! Need I say more! I hate to go the lawyer route, but customers must speak up to get the respect they deserve.

Our air conditioner wasn't working very well so we called American Home Shield and their claims rep was very helpful. It was the day that we qualified to file a claim and the gentleman that took the call went in details and made sure that we were taken cared of. It took about 12 hours or so for the contractor to call me and then set up an appointment. Unfortunately, it was really hot and it took a couple of days for them to be able to come out and look at the problem.

But the gentleman that they sent out was very, very thorough, went above and beyond, and took care of us. He didn't just put some Freon in the AC and call it good, he also found all kinds of problems with the system and then he ordered parts. It took a good two weeks or so before we are really up and running because the parts needed to be ordered and shipped. He stayed very late working on things and he wanted to make sure that things were done right and thorough. So, I was very impressed with him. The AC’s performance has been wonderful since the repair. It's an excellent service and we're very happy and pleased.
