We're very happy with American Home Shield. We moved into the house in 1996 and built it to be our retirement home so, as much as we could afford, we got top-of-the-line. I've had this KitchenAid wall oven since then. A month and a half ago, something happened and we couldn't see how to set it. Regardless of what we were cooking, it kept coming back telling us that we need to put in the meat probe. I got information from the technician that there are two boards in there. He checked them and both boards were bad so we couldn't see the display. However, they don't make the parts anymore so right now, we're working with American Home Shield to get a replacement oven, one that we're happy with.
In my experience with American Home Shield, had we decided on what we wanted or gone to look at it immediately within a week, it would have been installed. They've already made some suggestions and after reading up on it, it looks good but my wife wants to see it and touch it if possible. Right now, my wife is ill and she just got out of the hospital this Saturday. I'm waiting for her to get on her feet, so we can go look at what would be the replacement oven or choose another brand if that's what we wanted. I talked to American Home Shield and they told me I had till September 1st to get this done.
Aside from that, the contractors they've sent have been outstanding. There's only been one case when Sandra called and told AHS not to send a particular company if a particular device went down. We've always lived in a nice neighborhood because I've always had a job that allowed me us to do so. However, there are people in this world who, when they walk through your front door and see the color of your skin, are not very nice and this particular individual was not very nice. It happened so infrequently that my wife was very surprised. I'm a little bit more sensitive than she is and she got another contractor come to repair it.
We've had four things go bad in the last six months and I'm going to have to wait for the next month for all four things. We have a three-story so we have three air conditioning units and two of the three went out and two separate contractors came to work on it. We also have claims for the counter basement, the stove and the water heater, and American Home Shield has been doing great.

The recent claim with American Home Shield was done online. The experience was disappointing. A technician was scheduled to come on Tuesday to repair the garbage disposal. He called saying he was on his way but he never showed up. I was charged the $75 service fee saying he came and nobody was at home but I was at home. I had to reschedule again and had to pay another $75. It took time until I got the disposal fixed. He came the second time and resolved the problem. Contractors that they sent were courteous and knowledgeable however, they should advise the contractor that if they don’t find anybody, they should call and not just leave. I have to pay $150 for just one service call. Their service needs improvement.

My most recent claim was when my air conditioning unit went out. I didn’t have great experience with American Home Shield but I’ll mention about my recent claim. We realized that something was wrong with the air conditioner two months ago when my husband and I got home. We immediately called AHS and they placed the order. I waited the next day to get a call but no one called. They told me about the company and I called the company to find out that they were fully booked and they would not be able to get to me till the next week. It was almost 100 degrees. It’s unacceptable since I pay monthly and I should not have to wait the next week to get something fixed.
I spoke with a lady at Home Shield and told her that it was unprofessional and I pay too much money. I've been with AHS since I purchased my home back in 2006 and having no guarantee that they will get me Monday of the following week. She said she would try and see if she could get somebody. I called them back and told them I’m gonna call the corporate number that I found on the website. I will express my concern on my service, pay every month and that I don’t feel I should wait more days in 100 degree weather same as what it felt for their service. The representative made some calls to check and came back saying that everybody’s booked and she can’t get anybody. I told her that I’ll still call corporate but she tried to call another place.
I understand they are trying to get contractors however my husband and I are both retired so instead of waiting for a week, we can find somebody else to fix the unit. The $75 that was prepaid and I could have put that to whatever I had and get a company to come and look at my unit the next day. The representative came back on the phone and informed us that she got somebody and that they will be coming the next day. I couldn’t believe it and found it unusual that from no one being able to come fix my unit to that they’ll be sending somebody the next day.
Two men came but I had no interaction with them because they were supposed to come at a time and they ended up coming at a different time. My husband had to leave work and see them do the work. He said they were nice men and very professional. The air conditioner is working very well now. But we’re having problems with it every year. I told my husband that we are putting money into fixing something that costs $50 or $60. This time, the fan wasn't turning so they had to replace the motor.
Before this incident, I called Home Shield because my microwave went out. They set me up with a company and I chose a microwave online. It took them two months to get me the microwave and they sent the wrong one. They drilled holes for the new microwave and left the drillings all over my stove, kitchen counter and on the floor. I was so irritated. After we cleaned up, the microwave didn’t fit and they had to call whoever and reorder a different microwave. We have to wait so I called Home Shield and told them about the situation. They got me a microwave back but they had to redrill more holes. After that, the microwave starts rattling, they didn’t secure it properly so they had to send somebody back to fix it because it had been within the area of time for them to come back if something wasn't right. They came back and said it wasn’t placed properly.
I’m not happy with Home Shield and have had frustrating experiences. I once spoke with the sales associates because they told me that my warranty wasn’t covered. My husband had to research to find out it did cover it and have to replace it. I had to go through the argument with the sales associates to let her know that it was included in the warranty. It ended up being replaced. For years, I had to deal with Home Shield a lot. It’s thin unprofessionalism of their sales reps/customer service which is unnecessary when you pay a lot of money monthly for service. Overall, they’re not a bad company so I would recommend them but they got a lot of work to do.

I submitted my recent claim online and it was easy. The claim was for an air conditioner because it wasn’t working correctly. The contractors they sent took about a week because there were only three times that the contractor had. After the repair, the air conditioner has been working properly. American Home Shield and I have a good relationship.

American Home Shield has been very good as far as getting people out here. They do the job. However, based upon the service that’s going on with the air conditioner claim, I can’t recommend them to a friend. The first company that they sent out did not perform the job properly. I’m not an air conditioner person so, basically, all I knew was that they came and sucked the water out. They were cleaning the line. That’s what they’d told me. But apparently they installed the drain pan incorrectly and the water sits in the drain pan.
I called AHS back that day and provided the information. The rep said, “Okay. We will have to get the provider who did the installation to come back out.” So of course, I waited. But nobody called me. The young lady told me that there was nothing documented. And I told her, “What do you mean there’s nothing documented? I spoke to a person on this date.” She put me on hold for about 45 minutes and then she said, “I am going to document. And I will reach out to the company we sent out for them to give us the invoice stating what needed to be done. And then we will follow up.”
The second contractor who came out was fantastic. He said, “Ma’am, I see the problem. And this needs to be addressed ASAP. I’m so sorry that I can’t do the work myself because I would love to. Because this should not have happened. This was laziness.” I need air conditioning because it’s hot. I’m hoping American Home Shield take the initiative to get this done and fixed.

It's been a positive experience with American Home Shield. It's been useful. Since I've gotten the service, I had my AC go out and issues with garbage disposal and plumbing. It was much more affordable to get those repaired having a service as opposed to not having the service because I knew what to expect in terms of payment. In fact, with my most recent claim, I had AHS send a plumber for some problems we were having with the drain in our sink and our toilet. It was easy submitting a claim. I did it online and they were accommodating to my schedule.
The contractor who came out had to replace the stopper of the drainer in my master bathroom sink. He also changed out a flapper in my guest bathroom because the chain wasn't working and the water kept running. He did everything that he was called up to do. He advised us that the toilet tissue that we use was too thick and that we can use a less expensive one. The toilet has been doing fine ever since the repair. Back in January and February, I asked for the billing date to be on the 15th because that was my pay date, but they told me that they couldn't accommodate me and what I could do was do two months, after reset, and I did that. However, they still ended up charging me and I still ended up getting a negative balance. It took me until April to get things figured out with them. At this point, I still need a different date but I had to make some adjustments.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Although our claim has been approved, it took 4 phone calls that each had a 60 plus minute wait time before getting reaching a live individual. This is after attempting to submit online failed. Needed 2 assessment appointments - They first sent out a service company that they have received 100s of complaints regarding their performance and misdiagnoses. With the approval, we have to accept an oven that may or may not fit and that is black instead of the stainless steel model we currently have. If the replacement, priced at $1649 doesn't work, we can choose an alternative, but will only get a $758 credit towards the replacement. I guess something is better than nothing, but when it contradicts what the salesperson told when we signed up, there is a problem. SEEK AN ALTERNATIVE COMPANY.

The only way to communicate with American Home Shield is by phone or by request repair form on website. The minimum wait time on the phone was 45 minutes no matter what time of day you call. The communication was horrible for repair request. Made a repair request the first of July and it is now the end of August and there is still no resolution. Cannot continue to call and wait more than 45 minutes to speak to someone. No one ever calls back. I will be cancelling this service immediately.

I have been an American Home Shield for over 10 years and I have noticed some changes in customer service. For one thing, they were easy to contact by phone in past years. However, most recently it is extremely difficult to get a representative on the phone. As recent as yesterday, I was on hold for some 30 minutes, and still couldn't get someone on the phone. The subcontractors they use, don't show up when scheduled. I had to call them repeatedly to reschedule the appointment. Very dissatisfied with the way they do business now.

I’ve been a member with American Home Shield for many, many years now and it appears that every time I need something, I wait on the line forever. If I want to argue a case, it goes to the second supervisor right away and I'm still waiting. When I get the supervisor, they try to find any way to deny it. I used to have them on both my primary residence and investment property. I’m encouraged to go online to place a service and when I do, it does not inform me of the nature of the deal. It asks what the problem is in general and that’s it. It says I will be contacted by whoever is going to work on my claim and gives their information.
In my case, it was for my air conditioning. The gentleman appeared, came in and said he won’t be able to work on it since I had a problem with two units and the claim says it was only one. That was too bad because I took the time off. I asked what I needed to do and he said I had to call American Home Shield, so I did. They wanted to charge me another $75. Had it been a person I talked to, I would have said exactly what the issue was and that would have been only one $75 one-time fee. After a lot of back and forth, they agreed to waive the $75 fee, but it still did not take away the inconvenience of booking another appointment a week after, which happened to be right before the 4th of July weekend.
They came in before the 4th of July weekend and we needed to order a part, so that dragged and dragged. It could have been done a little easier had there been a very good communicative tool to tell exactly what the issue was. They waived the fee supposedly, but I got a letter from them saying I’m delinquent and that I have to pay. Again, I call and wait to talk to a person only to be told that for some reason the other representative I talked to did not process the whole thing through. I asked if I needed to call again and the rep said he’d try to take care of it. I didn’t hear back from him and I’m assuming everything is fine.

Someone called within an hour and they were out here to repair the next day. The tech who was sent was great. I have only been with American Home Shield for not even six months and I haven't had any issues. My overall experience was also great and I would recommend American Home Shield.

The first time we had issues, we submitted our claim with American Home Shield by phone and we got a response immediately. And the second time was online. We had some issues with our AC and we contacted them and within a day or two, the contractor was here. He saw and explained what the problem was and had it solved. It was a good experience and overall, AHS has been punctual and has done good work.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was with my air conditioner. When I called to submit the claim, the rep helped me out. Seabreeze Heating and Air came out and put a new compressor inside the AC unit. It stayed cool for approximately eight hours and then it started going on and off, then it went out. So, I called back and AHS had another contractor come out. The second contractor put a thermostat in the AC but it still wouldn't cool. I called again and they came back out, saw the leak in the AC, and fixed it. The second contractor did a good job and now my AC is getting cool and working fine. The first time I called AHS, though, I had to wait an hour. But other than that, everything's good so far and AHS did a good job with everything they've done for me.

AHS's contractors are very professional and they usually use these companies called J&R Appliance and Sears and they’re both fantastic. Their contractors guided us through the problem, ordered the parts and they delivered what they said they will deliver. When we went and called J&R Appliance, they came, were very professional and got the repair done. The contractors were responsive were responsive in getting here but the bigger problem is that they're not training their people properly. AHS doesn't recognize that people have multiple houses and they get the accounts all screwed up. Their back end support is not that good. I would definitely change the background work because they don’t have their data correctly. Data integrity is really important to me but not to them. Plus, the wait time is extremely long. It could be anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour and 40 minutes.
My last experience with them was when I was overseas. I had to call them which cost me $4 a minute and I was on the phone for almost two hours and that's $480. I explained to them that I needed this to speed up and get done with. Even though they agreed that it will all get fixed, I found out today that it was all wrong again. Other than that, I’ve recommended AHS to a ton of people before and everyone I’ve recommended them to has used them because their service providers are phenomenal. But now, I’m thinking about swapping over to another home warranty company because the last two experiences I had with them was not great. AHS was sending the wrong appliances with the one service to the wrong houses.
Max,
We appreciate your patience when attempting to get through to customer service. I can imagine how frustrating an excessive wait time can be especially being overseas. I had to submit a claim with American Home Shield to get my AC repaired. Submitting a claim was fine but my AC still hasn’t been repaired despite the fact that they have sent people 8 times. My biggest complaint is that they pretty much send the same person we’ve had or the same group although we find this understandable if it’s the only contractor in the area.
Without the AC functioning the way it should I ended up biting the bullet and buying a window unit for my room. My room has been our refuge but for the most part if it gets above 85 outside then it’s going to be somewhere between 78 and 80 within our house outside of our bedroom because of the window unit. AHS says they’re going to get somebody out as soon as they can and people came out to look. We had comprehensive service and we've got our compressor replaced. It's just that the unit is not cooling. I’d say I had some decent service but they got to make sure things are fixed. I'm at a point now where I’d have to call back just for them to come again and take a look.

Our refrigerator’s ice maker wasn’t working. I called AHS and I'm very pleased with the way it went. They responded very quickly. They sent me a text and within 15 minutes and I knew who was coming out. The technician was out within the next day or two and he was very knowledgeable and courteous. He just went to work and it wasn’t very long that it was repaired. He also took the time to give me a few tips on key prevention measures to help me out not having these things happen. When he left he told me, “Just give it a couple of hours and you’ll have ice.” I’m working at home quite a bit late and my office is not very far from the kitchen. And because the bin was empty I could hear ice cubes dropping. Everything went smooth. It was a very pleasant experience and I was satisfied with it.

It's been an excellent experience with American Home Shield. We were having problems with our air conditioning unit and submitting a claim with them was very good. My husband called AHS and explained to them that I'm disabled and being in the heat wouldn't be very beneficial for me, and they were very responsive. We had an excellent interaction with the claims rep. AHS sent out a really super contractor who explained to us everything that was going on and how he'd be able to repair the AC unit. He had to file something with the main office, then he was able to come back and continue the repair. The repairman that came out was an excellent representative of his company as well as our warranty provider. He was professional and a very nice person, and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Since the repair, the AC's performance has been excellent and we've had no problems with it. Now it’s nice inside even if it's hot and humid outside.

We have two different houses covered by American Home Shield. We had moved into our new townhome and the first time we turned on the washing machine, it overflowed one of the toilets in the house. I thought there may have been an issue with the drain out to the sewer system. And so, we filed a claim for a plumber to come out. The plumber came over and we paid the $75 fee in advance. However, he was unable to replicate the problem. So, whatever had happened, it did not do it again when the plumber was here.
The plumber then suggested to my wife that it would be best if he did a scope on my line to see if there was some kind of blockage. He called AHS to get authority to use the scope and they declined because the problem was not occurring when the plumber was here. And so, he asked my wife if she wanted to pay the fee. It was the material amount of money that he would recommend doing. She opted to do it and so he did a scope. He found there was a bit of distortion in the line. Thereafter, he told us to be careful in using too many water devices at one time. Fortunately, we did not have the issue reoccur. I think using a scope is part of the diagnosis process and should have been covered by AHS' warranty. And so, I was disappointed that it was declined when the plumber called in for permission to do it.
The problem that we had I didn't pursue with AHS because we could not get to a person. I've been on hold for as long as 45 to 60 minutes. They seem so understaffed that you wait on hold for eternity. Furthermore, they have no way to provide feedback or ask questions on their website. You can only either file a claim or check on an existing claim that you've already filed. And so, I had no choice but to call and have a very difficult time getting a live person.

My agent picked American Home Shield and paid for the home warranty, so it was part of buying the house. I’ve only had one claim and I waited over an hour to talk to somebody. It was horrible. They have all these options on the machine but sometimes, they don’t fit like saying what the problem is. I couldn’t say garbage disposal and leak. The recording said I can go to the website and I tried but that wasn't any better. So I called the number to sign up like I wanted to buy and got to talk to somebody. That was easy but trying to deal with getting service was horrible. The rep told me that they were in the process of hiring more people, so they know what the problem is.
The tenant in my rental house said there was a leak under the sink and thought it was the garbage disposal, so I told AHS about it. When I talked to the company that was gonna come out, they said they can’t fix the issue if it’s a leak and it’s not the garbage disposal. It had to say leak. So I called back, waited to talk to someone and they put "leak". AHS set up one company to come, which I wanted to use, but then, they gave the job to a different company and I had given the credit card to the first company. I had put in was 300 and something dollars, so with $75, it was well worth it. But about two or three weeks after the company serviced us, I got an email saying they haven’t been paid. The first company never switched it over.
The guy also said he'd call me 30 minutes before he got there and he didn’t. The tenant called, said the guy was there and he was practically done by the time I could’ve arrived. All in all, the company that did the service was good, but trying to deal with American Home Shield to get service was horrible. I would not recommend them to anybody.

I've had American Home Shield for years and I know that they stay busy all the time. Getting in touch with them is the biggest problem, and I wish they had more lines available open to calls. I recently had a water pipe break, and it was very hard to get an appointment with them. It took 30 to 40 minutes at a time, sometimes an hour, to try and get through to them over the phone. They seemed fine when I got through but overwhelmed. I had a couple of incidents like a hot water tank break, and the guy that they sent out didn't do what he should have done and created some problems. Additionally, I had a renter in my house and she said she had all kinds of problems with AHS. In fact, she refused to use them the next time we had a problem and I had to pay out of pocket. AHS was something that was highly recommended by my realtor as part of buying a new house and it may even be required where I now live. And so on the purchase of a new home, I had to do this. But there are so many stipulations and limitations at what they do and don't cover. I had an air-conditioner unit and the evaporator core was leaking. Submitting a claim to AHS was straightforward as far as what I needed to do to get things rolling. The contractor that came was a very helpful guy. He definitely tried to do everything he could to repair the situation. Since the repair, the water leak is gone. The only challenge was that the water leak caused my ceiling to cave in which American Home Shield did not cover and that's frustrating. But as far as my experience with AHS, it's okay but I'm not sure if I would do this again.

My washer was malfunctioning. It would go into a spin cycle and it would jump all over the floor. American Home Shield sent a technician out to troubleshoot it. A week later, I called them and come to find out they had decided that it was not repairable and it would be replaced. The washer choice is a webpage where you can equal out exactly what your own washer was worth or you can add money to it. I replaced the washer with one that was more expensive and I hate it. I went too fancy. When I first got the washer, I contacted American Home Shield. I told them that there’s an issue with it. They told me that I have to contact GE's warranty company. I did that and I had them troubleshoot it.
GE told me that there's nothing wrong with the washer and that it's just the way it is. However the technician insinuated that he's had issues with this particular washer before. So, I contacted American Home Shield back and told them that I don’t want the washer. I’d rather trade it in and do a replacement with cash and then I’ll just go to the store and buy my own washer. But they told me that that’s not how this works. Once the unit is delivered, the claim is over. So I’m stuck with the washer until I just want to abandon it. If I had gone to Best Buy and gotten a washer I would have lost 25% of the cost of it, but they would have taken it back.
AHS should also hire more call center reps because calling them at any point in time in that particular claim required me to at least set aside half an hour of being on hold before somebody would actually come to the phone. But once they get on the phone, it’s all fine. They’re cordial. They do their job properly. I understand that they can only do what the company allows them to do but the amount of time that a person has to wait to get a person is somewhat unreasonable.

And that’s when I found out they had sent me an email saying that they needed more information.
I had to resubmit the information, like twice because they were saying that the contractor’s number wasn’t on there, which wasn’t stated the first time I talked with them. It has its address, the statement and the amount that was charged to me for the work. Then, I had to resubmit it with his certificate number. I sent them the information through fax which I wasn’t sure that they had gotten. I had to call them to make sure because I didn’t get an email saying that they got it. After that, it was a week that I received the refund.

Last Wednesday, 8/16/17 my AC on the house I am renting went out. My property manager called American Home Shield to have a service call entered and was informed someone would be out Monday, 8/21/17. This is in the Phoenix market with temperatures above 100 degrees so he reach out to a business manager to get earlier service. They had a company sent out on Friday, 8/19/17 at which time it was diagnosed the compressor was bad. Today I get a call stating the warranty was covering the replacements but service company informed American Home Shield it would need 15 pounds of Freon. They charge $50 per pound but American Home Shield informed me they only cover $10 per pound and I am responsible for the $600 difference.
I stated this did not make sense and if they could get a second company to quote a cost per pound of Freon. I was informed no, this could not be done and if I was unhappy with the cost they would send me the money from the quote to replace the compressor and I could find a company to complete the fix. If I wanted to do all the work I would not be paying a home warranty company for this service. $600 for a $2000 fix just does not seem like a warranty to me. First I am paying 22% of the total cost of the repair plus paying the $75 service all and $60 a month for the warranty program. This is not much a warranty program in my opinion and cannot believe they would not assist in finding a possible cheaper solution. This does not seem like a warranty plan working as a warranty should work.

I absolutely love AHS, and would tell people how they stand behind their customers. I am sad to say that they have been nothing but a headache for me for the last month and half. My boiler hot water ran hot for only 15 minutes. I put in a request for the boiler and AHS sent me someone to fix my air (which was not broken). I had to take off from work the next day so that the boiler guy could come. When he did he arrived from E**O T**H company at 3:30 pm he had a pair of pliers and a screw driver (and mentioned that he had just got the call and he was on his way home). This guy proceeded to look at my boiler summed it up and said "aquastat is what you need." My husband said, "did you check everything." Man comes back and proceeds to fiddle with boiler again. He took my washing machine hose hooked it to my HOT BOILER and ran water in it. Noises were made clinking and clanking and then water was everywhere.
The technician then started yelling I need a broom to clean up the water. He then took off fast and didn't want to say anything to my husband or myself. I called AHS immediately and told them that the guy really BROKE the boiler. I began to call that company and was told a BIG FAT LIE. (The tech said my hot water was NEVER working and that when he arrived the boiler was leaking. Next thing I know this company and AHS says I need 8,000.00 to replace the boiler. I asked for a 2nd opinion, from a reputable company and unfortunately my boiler is now cracked and it will cost 6,000.00 to replace it.
I should not have to pay for this due to the fact that AHS sent this company to my home that has REALLY BAD reviews of breaking and messing people's property up. When does AHS take responsibility for the companies that they contract out to when helping their customers? When does AHS back their customers and help them in situations like this? I have called AHS so many times I can't begin to count. I'm always placed on hold for about 20 minutes so they can review "the notes" then I asked for a SUPERVISOR, in which I never get to speak to one. As they will ALWAYS call back --- and NEVER do.
OR they tell the customer service rep to review it and then they will call me. I am sick and tired or going in circles with AHS. Should I now proceed to call a news company to help me get some answers? Because I still DO NOT have hot water. Mind you winter will be here soon and the boiler also run my heat. I guess my family means absolutely NOTHING to AHS. I'm pretty sure AHS employees are happy because they have hot water. PS. This is the 2nd time AHS has done me wrong being that when my air was actually broken, the company assigned guy quit and took my fan motor with him. In the heat of the summer I had to wait exactly 1 month to finally get some air.

The company is so unbelievable hit or miss and the call hold time are insane. I have had great experiences with some things and would sing their praises. Other days there are not enough bleeps to control my rage! I have been with them for over 10 years. They are the best of a HORRIBLE industry. Their hold time are the stuff of nightmares. IF you get through, IF get a rep that can walk and chew gum, and IF you have good contractors in your area you will have great experience. If not... good luck sunshine.
I spent 3 weeks trying to get a diagnostics and still didn't get an educated opinion. They had already denied the claim for it based off of something... without a diagnostics. It took 4 calls and a lot of yelling to even get a supervisor. We now have second opinion coming. This is the third time I have had to get a second opinion for three different issues. The first two times saved me $100's and I am hoping this one will too. I would love to edit this later and say it was good. I will not change that 2 stars based off of repeat calls, hold times, miscommunications, and poor contractors.

My AC went out about a month ago and I filed a claim with AHS. I got ahold of them and they assigned my claim to the local contractor who I got ahold of that same evening. The contractor came out the next day and he diagnosed right away. He told me what was wrong and fixed it right away so it worked really great. He did a good job since the AC's been running fine. I've been with AHS for a few years now and I had one issue about three years ago with trying to get somebody out and then the contractor we got out didn’t do an adequate job. But other than that one occurrence, I haven't had any major issues with them. It's been going well so I've stayed with them. All in all, it's been a good experience and they stand by the warranty agreement with repairing or replacing broken items.

American Home Shield’s contractor was here yesterday for my air conditioning system. I got a text yesterday saying that someone was going to come between 2:00 and 6:00. The guy called at 12:30, said he was on his way. So, I said. “Okay. I’ll leave work early. I’ll come and meet you there.” Then I got an email or a text a couple of minutes later saying that he was going to come at 12:00. And then, another text after that, telling me that he was coming late. It was very bizarre. They’re not a very organized company. But my issue is not that. It’s more that they do absolutely everything possible to avoid actually fixing the real problem as long as they can go the cheap route of putting band aids on something. So, I’ve had no less than over a 5-year period, 15 to 20 times that they’ve been out on the same air conditioning system where there’s a leak and they’ve never found a leak. So, it’s just a constant battle.
The company yesterday was Total Air Care. They had three visits in the last two weeks. The first visit, the guy came out at night time and started to work on the system. Then he was outside on the condenser and it started to rain and he said, “Oh, I can’t work on it if there’s lightning and rain because it’s dangerous.” So, I believe it’s company policy, so he left. The guy came two days later because now my ceiling starts leaking from the upstairs unit and through the actual sheetrock of the ceiling. A guy comes two days later and goes, “There is a drain pipe here that was not connected,” and shows it to me. And I said, “Wait a minute. That was connected before.” He goes, “Yeah, there must have been someone working on your air conditioning system because this was clearly disconnected recently and that’s where it’s draining from.” I said, “Well, it was your company that was there two days before.”
Now, I didn’t claim and I’m just fixing it myself. But it was just carelessness. So, the guy then reattaches the drain pipe and said, “Okay, everything is fixed.” I said, “Well, but that still doesn’t fix the air conditioning. Nobody’s fixed the issue.” He goes, “Well everything looks fine to me.” then he left. Then a guy came yesterday because a couple of days later, the air conditioning was not working again. He said, “Well, I really can’t find the leak until the pressure goes down further. So, you’re going to have to kind of wait until it starts to malfunction the worst, then call us back.” So, there’ll be a fourth visit sometime in the next week, rather than them actually spending the time to try to figure it out.
Before, there also was one contractor that AHS sent and that was horrific. They said they had to put in Freon. And he was going to charge me two and a half times with the market rate to buy Freon. He said, “Well, we do that because we don’t make any real money from American Home Shield from the service call. So, this is how we make our money. It’s off the Freon." I said, “So, let me get this straight. I buy a home warranty and then I pay $75 for you to make a visit. Since that’s not enough money for you, you bilk me and overcharge me for the Freon that goes into my system. No way. I’m not going to do that. I’ll pay someone else to put the Freon.”
“Well, you can’t do that. That’s just the way it is. If it’s under the home warranty, it invalidates the home warranty.” So, essentially it was fraud. And I challenged it and I ended up disputing 50% of the charge of my platinum card and won the case and got it removed. But it was $1,000. And the guy was like, “Well, yeah, that’s just the way it works. That’s our business motto. It’s the only way we’d survive being one working for American Home Shield ‘cause they don’t pay us.”
What I’ve had to do twice in the last month is to call another company in the middle of the night to come out and do an emergency call to pump in Freon. The bigger issue remains, which is figure out the leak. Contractors were there for 30 minutes. And they go, "It’s a lot of work.” And then, half of them will try to talk you into this idea of, “Well, this is an old system. You really should replace it. We have a deal that if you buy a new system from us, it would have cost this amount and the energy efficiency.” but not through my home warranty. So, they’re trying to sell me something on the side.
I’ve had AHS on other things. Had to come out to our pool system where the contractors have been honest and said, “Listen, they would do absolutely anything to not replace a piece of equipment. So, I’m going to have to really write this up and send pictures and show that there’s no other way but to replace this.” It’s a very frustrating thing. And whenever I call and wish to talk to one who has some authority, it’s almost impossible. You get the run around, get transferred to 12 different people, get promised call back but they won’t call you back. You really have to work hard to be able to get to somebody who’s going to be able to give you a straight answer.
My experience with them has been frustrating and challenging. It’s too much work for the price. But the problem is, when you own a home, especially if the home is 16, 17 years old, you buy the home and you get a home warranty because you don’t know which is going to go wrong. I would rather pay more for better service and know that someone’s actually going to take care of it without me having to battle them every time than to pay the price that I do and to have the frustration that comes with fighting them over everything. I wish they had a premium package where they’d charge 50% or 75% more and if something comes wrong, come quicker, fix it better and replace things when they need to get replaced. I’d sign up for that tomorrow.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a problem with the air-conditioner so we contacted American Home Shield and they sent an air-conditioning company out. They were very efficient, they told us what was wrong and they got back to AHS. The whole experience was all very good and AHS eventually replaced the air-conditioner. Before that, we had to be without air during a very hot time for about five days. It wasn’t anybody’s fault. We were new to AHS and they got to a new site. If they repair it and spend on the unit and it goes again, it’s going to be a problem. So, AHS agreed among themselves that the unit needed replacing. So, as far as the service goes, they were really great.
The contractor that came took a good look inside and outside and they were adamant about what the problem was. They came out when they said they would come in and they were very nice and very efficient. The unit’s been working now, it’s blowing cold air and we're happy. The insurance is there and you hope you never need it but we needed it and we’re covered so we're grateful that we got it. We had to wait that the unit and the parts were right because there's nothing worse than coming out and finding that they couldn't do the job. They’re very professional and they did everything they said they would do so I can't ask for anything more than that. Everything was fine.

I’ve had a contract with American Home Shield for three years and I’ve used it about twice a year. I’ve dealt with one or two contractors they sent out and had a mixed experience. Half the time, a vendor comes out, fixes my problem and it’s a week long. It's typical with American Home Shield contractors to order parts or reschedule. I had a vent motor go out, submitted a claim online and the site was easy to use. The contractors who came out fixed the vent motor and left, which was rare, and the best interaction I've had with AHS.
We had a hot water heater go out about six weeks ago. It took several days for the vendor or repairman to come, then it was going to take almost two weeks to order parts and another week to install them. By that time, we were without hot water for over two weeks. I called AHS but I didn’t get any answer. I called somebody else and they came and fixed our hot water heater the next day. After this, I called AHS again and they said I should’ve requested a new vendor ‘cause they weren’t going to cover it. I paid for the repair out of my pocket.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and I can't really define what's wrong online. I've had this happen several times where they said that you can't give enough information on that website. Because if you just check a bunch of boxes, like say your air-conditioner isn't working, there's no place to specify which floor. They would say, “Well, no, we have to be exact. We can only do what’s on American Home Shield’s work order.” They have contractors that complain they don't get paid. It takes some weeks to get parts and most people say they can get it in a day if we just went with them and not Home Shield. So I don't know what the truth is because I have nothing to compare it to.
I noticed on my dryer since it took them two or three times to actually fix it that they didn't have any visibility into the first fix. My complaint with the dryer was that it sounded like cars crashing and when the bins bump it was so loud and you couldn't do anything else in the house. They fixed the motherboard but it didn't stop the problem. When the second person came back they said, "Well if the motherboard was broken it's got nothing to do with the bin." And I was like, "What the heck. The bin is the problem."
I phoned in but by the time they came it had stopped spinning altogether. So my husband and I thought that it must be some kind of a mechanical issue because it sounded like grinding and crashing and then it just quit working. They came back to do the fix. It was a giant piece of silt that wrapped around the bin. They brought the part with them and fixed it that second visit. The company was quite nice
We bought the house with this warranty so we've kept it up because you always worry that something huge will break in an older house. So we just want to bank on the warranty. We've been thrilled with the service. It's just kind of the way it goes. They're hit-or-miss and they did charge either way. You have to be vigilant about taking vendors off the list of people that are allowed to come to your house. Because for instance we had a company come to fix our washing machine a couple of years ago. I called AHS and said, “Just don’t have this company come anymore because they don’t come when they say they’re gonna come. And they said they were coming back in a week to fix it with the part. They never showed up.”
When I finally got somebody on the phone, they said ”American Home Shield should have called you and told you that they don’t want us to fix it at all. They want to get you a new washer.” And I’m like, “No one has called. No one from Home Shield has called. Nobody. Nothing.” And I kind of didn’t believe them, anyway. And then, when I talked to Home Shield, like two weeks later, after somebody finally called me back, they said, “Oh well they haven’t even turned in their estimate the day you talked to them.”
So we went three weeks without a washing machine. That’s why I don’t recommend them. They don’t do things in a timely fashion. They seem to always remove the coverage from that one little thing that you’d think they would have covered. Then I had to pay shipping and I have to pay something else too. That new free washing machine cost me over $200, which is not very much for a washing machine but I could’ve gone out and bought one of my own for not much more than that.

I called American Home Shield for my air conditioner. Usually, we call them to file a claim and get an authorization. And then, they send one of their contractors over to the house. The interaction with American Home Shield is very professional and I don’t have any complaints. Nine out of ten times, the contractors are very good. But I wasn’t too cool about the one that they sent this time. He was trying to get more money for something when the girl has authorized everything to be done. And he even asked me, “Who authorized to do this, and this, and this?” And I told him that I called American Home Shield and I told the representative what was happening. Then she went ahead and authorized it. And then, he says it should have been separate. But he’s not going to charge me for it. And I looked at him and I said to him, “Oh, okay. No problem.” But I forgot to call American Home Shield to let them know about that.
The performance of the air conditioner is fine. I never had a problem with AHS. This is the first time because they used to have this company they call Amen. Every time I have a problem with the air-conditioner or the heating, that’s the company that they send. But this time, they sent somebody different. And I even asked the girl what happened to Amen Air and she said that they’re not with them any longer.
I didn’t care too much for this one. He tried to pull a fast one on me but I’m, uh-uh. American Home Shield is always very helpful that they kind of walk with you. They make sure that what is supposed to be done is done. But I would like to have more flexibility sometimes with the contractors. I usually use AHS because my contract covers the motor for my pool and it went. But the person that cleans my pool has been with me for 10 years and he also does repairs. So, when I call and ask them if they can give me an authorization for that, they said no. When I asked them if I can use him, pay him and then, for them to reimburse me, they told me, “No.” I let them know I was very skeptical because they’re gonna send somebody to my house that I don’t know versus a person I’ve known for 10 years.

Earlier this year - Apr 2017, we contacted American Home Shield as our AC was making loud noises on the external unit. Their contractor (Total Air Care) promptly came out and evaluated the system and determined that the compressor was failing so they suggested it be replaced. Within 5 days the compressor and motor were replaced - we were charged close to $700 to replace the refrigerant. System seemed to be working good although I thought it was still a bit noisy outside. Exactly 4 months later our system died completely!
We live in Florida and are in the depths of summer (average temps the past few weeks have been 96! - Not to mention the 'feel' temps over 100+!). I called American Home Shield immediately and asked that they come out ASAP to evaluate and repair. Next day - no call back as of yet so I reached out and after about a 30 min hold got in touch with customer service. She authorized the review by a technician and sent out a request for Total Air Care to contact me. I had to contact Total Air Care to get the ball started as well. I explained that we had just had a repair done about 4 months ago and she said that it wasn't their problem since the repair was only covered for 60 days. She was able to schedule someone to get out the next day so that was a plus!
I ended up having an emergency surgical procedure the next day and called Total Air Care to see if there was a way they could jump start the review before I went to the surgery center. I explained at that time that it was going to be detrimental to my health to come back to a hot home - temps inside were averaging 95+. (I was on hold with Total Air Care for over 30 min before I could actually speak with anyone). She wasn't able to expedite it but assured me they would get out there that day to get it started. Tony came out and worked with my dad and husband to discuss the repairs needed - explained that the compressor had gone bad and that the system was so old (12 yrs) that we are going to continue to have a need to replace this compressor.
He suggested that we contact American Home Shield and ask that they look to replace the AC unit entirely since replacing the compressor was just like putting a band-aid on a broken system over and over - expecting it to hold on but it'll continue to go bad. He noted on the work order that the breaker was being tripped over and over and he replaced the starter kit and the pump tripped it again. Came home after the surgery to no AC - husband did his best to find ways to keep me cool and had to buy a portable window AC (another $500 spent). Next day I called American Home Shield - per the technician and was on hold for over 40 min. Finally got in touch with a very caring service rep. She understood the situation and got me in touch with her supervisor.
Supervisor was less than friendly and told me: A) No idea why a tech would tell me such information and B) There is nothing she can do about this. All of a sudden I felt as if this entire thing was our fault. I explained to the supervisor, as the technician had explained, that we will have put over $1500 into this (between April and Aug repairs) plus the cost they are putting out to replace this compressor now twice and we could have put that money to a new unit. I was told that if the compressor is the problem part - American Home Shield will not have to pay anything as that part was just replaced in April so it has a 1yr warranty for them. HOWEVER, although they have a one year warranty - we still have to pay: A) the deductible and B) the cost for new refrigerant, AGAIN! And this is NOT their problem. If I had more issues with this - I can wait for the authorization dept to call me.
48 hours later the authorization department called me (at 4 pm on a Friday!). Authorization dept advised they were approving for the compressor to be replaced and Total Air care would contact me but that I would still need to pay another $605 for refrigerant. I explained to the gentleman that called us that our concern was, as the technician explained to us, that we were putting a band-aid on the bigger problem with the compressor going down again. I reiterated that the cost that we've outlaid plus the cost that they have put out would equate to a new system. He reviewed the details and was in agreement with this, only problem was that the technician didn't put this detail on the work order. He said he would reach out to Total Air Care and would contact me back first of next week or someone else on the team would be in contact.
By Tuesday afternoon we heard nothing more so I reached out to American Home Shield. After waiting 40 min, I was able to speak with customer service to get status on the claim. She explained that the claim had been denied on Friday and was communicated to me (?!?), I shared what happened on Friday so she read more of the notes and reiterated the claim was denied and that the gentleman we spoke with on Friday left a message for Total Air Care to get more information and so far they haven't received more info to process this. I was flabbergasted that this was in denial mode and nothing was being done. She said I would have to speak with the authorization department to get more details so she transferred me (blind transfer!) - on hold for another 25 min before speaking with someone. Explained to the new rep what was going on and she immediately said - the work order is scheduled to be complete by Friday, 8/18.
I asked what is it that will be completed because I haven't authorized anything yet because we were in conversations about exactly which way we're going with this!?! She said that I needed to give this some more time and it would be complete by Friday. I reiterated I had a surgical procedure and sitting in this hot house is not doing me any good! She then wanted to debate and argue with me on why I was even transferred to her department to begin with. I asked that she stop talking about this because I was not in the mood to debate or argue over why I was transferred to her or what the previous rep explained to me. I just simply wanted to know the progress on getting our system fixed.
She continued for a bit longer and I wouldn't entertain the conversation, she finally put me on hold a few times and then came back and said she would need to contact Total Air Care herself to figure out what was being done and what was said. (Thank you!) After being on the phone now for a total of 85 min now --- she returned to explain that she's not sure what the technician told us or why he would have said that but that the only reason the compressor needed to be replaced was because it was tripped. She reiterated that they would not have to pay anything for the compressor because it is within their warranty period but that we would still be responsible for the full charges.
That afternoon we received a call to authorize the repair with Total Air Care and again I reiterated I needed this done ASAP. The next day (Wednesday) Total Air Care called me to schedule repair and the earliest they could come out was on Friday afternoon. Technician came Friday afternoon (it was a monsoon-pouring!). He would not start anything until the $605 had been paid. I questioned if he would be able to complete the work with the rain, he said he hoped to but he'd have to wait to see if it let up. He took my credit card charge and proceeded to go back to his van and sit. I was hugely nervous that he was going to leave. I never was given a bill or anything - just a demand for my credit card.
Finally at 6 pm the system was fixed. We asked if he fixed whatever was tripping it and he said that is not something he would handle and we would need to get an electrician out here (???). As far as he's concerned, we have a Cadillac system at this point and nothing more can be done. We said we hoped the compressor doesn't go bad again! So what I learned with this is: Wait times to speak to a live body both with American Home Shield and Total Air Care are horribly long. No urgency is put to anything - no matter if their customer is sick or not, which I explained on numerous occasions! American Home Shield is protected by manufacturer warranty but the consumer is not!
Total Air Care technician may explain one thing to you verbally but won't stand behind it unless it's in writing ---- so if they say something, confirm it's in writing on the work order! Total Air Care needs to be more forthcoming with what they are actually doing. They led us to believe there was one problem when in fact it may not have been the source to begin with. They also messed with our system and weren't very clear with what was done. It makes us question exactly what was done with our system but alas we are at their mercy since they contract with the warranty company.
Janet,

I have had AHS for as long as I have had my townhouse. I have only had to call them 4 other times prior to this new problem. In the past, I have had no problems. Service providers came out to the house, made the fix and all was good and I paid the service fee. Yes the service fee increased $15 about 2 years ago, but not bad for the time I've been with them. Then my mortgage discontinued the option to pay AHS through them and informed me that I had to pay directly. Not a problem!! I received a letter from AHS "To avoid a lapse in coverage, please call us now at (phone number) to set up an alternative payment method. If you have already made arrangements to continue coverage, no further action is required." Knowing the unbelievable long wait time when you call (at least 45 mins), I went online to see if I could "set up an alternative payment method". Indeed I could!!!
I completed the process of inputting my credit card information and clicked submit. I immediately received an email "Your payment method has been updated." I did this one month before the deadline. Three months later I go to the AHS website to see whether my policy has been paid. Upon looking at past payments, I was up to date in payments. Two months later, I realized I need to call for service because my HVAC unit is leaking. I tried to request for service online, but couldn't so I called AHS. After the hour wait, I was informed that my policy had been cancelled 5 months ago due to nonpayment. WHAT!! Remind you the site on my policy showed up to date payments beyond the date my policy was "cancelled". After 3 weeks of talking with over a dozen people, I am being told that I should have called instead of provide a credit card online because I was getting a new policy. WHAT???
Nothing in the letter from AHS stated that I was getting a new policy, it only requested an alternative payment method! After having a revolving policy for 16 years why would I let that lapse! They finally approved the repair to then inform me that I have to pay $250 plus the Freon for items not covered. The total cost to me was $970. If I had gone without AHS, my cost would have been $1100. What have I benefited with AHS these 16 years; $130? Not to mention they also went up on the service fee $25 more with this new policy!
I am disgruntled because I was treated as if the lack of payment was my fault. Even though in their system, they also saw updated payments beyond the cancellation date. The service call fee has almost doubled in the past 3 years to then have to pay 75% of the repair! I have found a new company through a referral who knows how to treat loyal customers. You will not eliminate sudden high cost of your appliances with AHS. Expect to pay a high cost out of pocket to fix your old appliances while AHS pays pennies.
Leslie,
We do apologize the inconvenience you faced to set up a new policy. We want to help! Please look forward to a follow-up call an American Home Shield social media specialist to connect with you directly. We appreciate your patience.

I had a problem with my air conditioner recently. We have two AC units and one unit was operating in the lower level of the house while the other unit wasn't working and wouldn't come on. I called American Home Shield to file a claim and they followed through on it, and the process was very seamless. I talked with the contractors and showed them around, and the guy installed a new switch and a cord. My AC has been working fine since the repair. That was the second time that I had the opportunity to use AHS. I had used their service late last year and using them again later this year worked out fine as well.
Normally, AHS sends me an invoice for my deductible for the service call and I was expecting to get an invoice, but this time they went directly into my account and took the money out automatically, which was unusual. Then they charged an overdraft, even if the bill has been paid. I have the overdraft protection and I was surprised that this happened. Also, I don't use that account to pay bills on a routine basis because I use another account for my payments. The first time I used AHS, I also got an invoice but I paid through another account. I'm a minister and they charged the church's account, and I don't pay personal bills on that account, so that was puzzling for me. I had to do something to get that corrected so I called AHS and reported the matter. Other than that, my experience with AHS has been very good overall and I have recommended them to several friends already.

The air conditioner was old in the house that I bought. There would be a part of the air conditioner that would break and they'd fix it, and another part would break and they'd fix it again. Everything has been fixed on it except the motor, which seems to be doing well. American Home Shield responds in a timely manner and they set me up appointments as soon as they could. However, they're not open on the weekends. So when the air conditioner once quit on a Friday, they couldn't get to me until the following Monday and we went on a weekend without air. It was hot in the house and was a little uncomfortable, but I opened the windows and had a fan going and so I made it through it. The company I had on another house before came on the weekends but they charge triple the normal price, so I would've waited anyway if AHS did that.
Other than that, the service was good. I had two different contractors whom they sent out and they've been out here for three or four times. They had to come and see what's wrong with it. Then they send the order in for the part that needs replacing and then they come back and put it in. I'm familiar with a couple of them and I even told the last repair guy who was out here that he was the first one I would call if it breaks again. But, the performance of the air conditioner has been good since the last repair.

A plumbing problem with our toilet was my most recent claim with American Home Shield. There were a lot of difficulties in submitting that claim but it had to do with the phone system. They were having problems with their home. They also came out for other things. The contractors they send out have been fine and the items that have been repaired have performed better after the service.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was done online, the website was easy to navigate. I requested somebody to come and check on a slab leak in my house. I signed up for email and text notifications so I am informed who they’ll be sending and their phone numbers. When I knew who was being dispatched, I called them directly so they can get here within 24 hours. When you got two inches of water in your house, you tend to be proactive.
Interaction with the technician was good. But what hampered the situation a bit is that it would have been quicker if warranty folks were not involved in the whole process. They have certain technicians within the warranty program and we had issues with the leak detection people and who will come. It took two weeks to get it fixed which I think is a little excessive. I don’t know if they work for American Home Shield or a subsidiary / secondary partner. However, the people at American Home Shield are nice, the process and how it works, understanding as a consumer that it's a warranty and insurance business.
Same thing happened with our previous claim. When the technicians knew it’s under warranty claim, the timeliness to get the job done changes that. They realized they are not getting paid as much as it was for a normal request. Our prior claim was for the air handler of our air conditioner. The drip pan gets clogged and it overflows. We’ve claimed more than once with the same company. Last year, HVAC company sends out the same crew and the float switch they placed didn’t work. They came out this year and mentioned that it would really help if we’d sign up for a buy-in maintenance contract with them. My husband said he’ll decide on getting the maintenance contract but he wanted the problem fixed first since they were the same people that placed the faulty switch which caused the damage.
The claim to get our new drip pan that would cost $150 and another $100 or $150 for labor was declined. The warranty company said it was based on poor maintenance of the unit. I mentioned that they are the same people who come out and they are supposed to do the maintenance of the unit. I am not a licensed HVAC technician, so I would not know what else to do other than what they tell me. It seems that when we did not agree with getting the maintenance contract, they made sure that we did not get the work done. That for me is unethical.
I have been paying for 17 years and I just need something replaced based on age of the equipment. I don’t think that the technicians should determine whether I get my claim handled or not. Not in that respect. I wouldn’t discourage the company but they should not have your hands tied since you pay them every month. The people at American Home Shield when you call, you could wait couple of hours, but when you finally get to them they are all very nice and are just doing their job.

One of the three air-conditioning systems was not cooling so I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I waited on the phone for about 56 minutes but the rep who answered was very nice. He fixed the minor issue but he has to put a part in so I have to call and make an appointment, but I needed to call for when I have a day-off because I don’t want to have him wait like I did before. Overall, it was a good experience and for me, for the first time, it was very professional, honest and they got the job done because my air conditioning is working. It was a good experience and I have no complaints.

The most recent claim I had was for a microwave problem and I was assigned the best vendor in the ten years that we've been members of AHS. He was great, and I was able to do a cash in lieu of repair. It was probably the quickest turnaround AHS has ever responded. Unfortunately, it was right before I was moving. To find out that he was HVAC as well as being able to repair appliances was very disappointing because I have tried to get another HVAC vendor for the four and a half years that we lived in this house and I've been told time after time that the one that had to come an hour away to fix anything that had to do with my air conditioner was the only one, which I'm very dissatisfied with.
I'm dealing with a situation now wherein a work order was canceled and it still went to my credit card. I spoke with someone in retention the other day and it was probably one of the most heated conversations I had regarding it. She wasn't able to give me the cancellation number, which my credit card company had told me is important and to be sure that I get it. She said there was no such thing and that there would be something that would come in the mail. Their note would be what was used to track when you cancel.
I brought up the fact that when I was dropped by American Home Shield the end of 2016, I received a letter saying that they would no longer be able to service me. I had two different houses, one of which had multiple work order. I did not renew that one but I was getting ready to sell my house in 2017 and I wanted to have a safety net there. A salesperson called me several times from American Home Shield trying to get me to return. They were raising my rate by $30 a month, but then I thought I've only got a few months left and might as well do it.
This was in February and I found out they billed for two months because my initial contract renewed in January. It makes me nervous that because American Home Shield has my credit card number, I'm not sure what's going to happen as well as not being able to have a number to track the fact that I canceled this. Then when I went to give my new address, they said they have it. I don't know how they have it, which was disturbing to me too.
I also am beginning to think that the call centers are not manned to the capacity that's necessary to serve the customers. Any time I called in the last few months, I'm on hold for up to an hour. We're getting ready to buy another house and I'm sure to use other warranty companies out there because I have had so much trouble just getting in touch with American Home Shield on the phone. The contractors do the work that's necessary but it's hard to get them. It was having to wait, sometimes up to a week, in the middle of summer. Fans running in the house when it's 90 plus degrees is just not going to cut it. So this last time, I just figured out who AHS were going to send and so I canceled the work order so I could use somebody local and then just pay out of pocket.

If I'm trying to call and talk to someone at American Home Shield to submit a claim, it takes too long. I can do it online, but I can't do everything I need there if I have more than 1 air-conditioning system issue. Then they only had one company for one big area so there's a lot of wait time. They've been to my home about at least four times for the same issue on my air conditioner. But it's repaired now. Eventually, the job got done and it's okay.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is very easy and it works whether I do it online or over the phone. The customer service is fine and I have no issues with them. I called in my most recent claim for my air conditioning and the contractor they sent was very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. The AC has been working fine since the repair but it’s still making a whole lot of noise because it’s an older unit. The only issue I have with AHS is the turnaround time. My hot water tank went out last year during the coldest days of the season and it took AHS a week before it was even put in. For the AC, they took 2-3 days to get somebody out and it was hot. Still, the AHS people and the contractors are nice, awesome, do a great and thorough job, and polite.

I had recent claims with American Home Shield for my pool and air conditioning. I bought a lemon and so I got stuck with a lot of things in this house. However, AHS is at the mercy of the companies that they use. The pool company that they used refuses to call, text or email me. I finally called them and then they just lied. They said they came and checked my problem but they didn't. I feel like a fool because it’s my word against theirs that I've been trying to do everything I can. They also refuse to change my salt cells out and so my pool is turning green. That's definitely under the warranty. Now, I can't even swim in it.
On the other hand, what happened with the AC was that water ended up sitting up in my attic and then became mold. I have a two-story ceiling front room. Now I have had to cut out my whole ceiling which AHS is not going to pay for. I have scaffolding in my front room and dust all over my house from cutting out the ceiling because there was water left up there from a month ago when the air conditioning company was here.
In both instances, whether it's the AC or the pool, all the phone calls, e-mails and the time that it takes to talk to them makes the problem worse. I told the guy at AHS, Jeff who is the higher-up service rep guy, that the longer this problem sits, the worse it gets like what happened to my ceiling. $3,000 later, I still have to fix it and it's not money I'm going to recoup from American Home Shield.
AHS wants to help but they also have to rely on servicing and if the people servicing aren't the best or honest, then these problems persist. Now I'm bitter but I have no choice but to use them because it's warranted. But it's getting worse. If I have to call AHS and make a new claim, I can go online, make the claim and have no problems. However, if it's an issue wherein I have to re-call, I have to put the call on speaker because it could be 45 minutes at least before I speak to someone.
I spend my day trying to chase down American Home Shield or their contractor to see if they will help me. When I talked to higher ups and told them about my problems, they don't say anything. They only want to make sure that someone came out. It's frustrating because I know if I just call the company that changed my salt cells out, they would do that. But it doesn't seem to be convincing enough to whoever comes out or whoever barely comes out or lies that they came out.
Also, it's frustrating to get service. If the contractors who come out have to order a part, they have to go through AHS. The pool company guy kept saying that we had to re-call. I had to call three times and it was 45 minutes every time I called in to get AHS to re-call. Thanks to AHS, I have a new motor in my pool though. But after the motor broke and the salt cell broke, they were totally different. They saved me money on the motor but also led to a lot of expenses. Also if I had hired my own air conditioning company, maybe I wouldn't have had water up in the ceiling or had my ceiling caving in.

I called American Home Shield when one of our air-conditioning units wasn't operational and it was easy to submit a claim. They were very friendly and helpful in being able to remedy the situation and getting somebody out to us as soon as they could. Unfortunately it took a few extra days to schedule somebody to come out because they had a previous heavy call volume of activity, so we were in the queue with other customers. The technician who came was great, professional, knowledgeable and diagnosed the problem right away. He had to order a part and we had to wait a few more days for it to arrive. He told me the upper limits of how long it would take to get it and that was helpful to know. The unit is working now and we're very happy about it. Overall, AHS was accommodating and worked with us to secure a company that we felt comfortable and could work with us.

My AC went out so I called American Home Shield. They said they were sending out Hudson Bridge Heating and Air that kept saying they were coming, but never showed up. Also, my wife got an email saying the problem was being diagnosed at that time, which was a lie. The contractors were telling a story about it 'cause I know nobody’s diagnosing the problem. It was hot and I needed someone to come through, so the rep said okay. The next day came, and the contractors still didn't show up and then they said they were coming about 7:00 o'clock, 7:30. I waited, they never showed up. I called Home Shield again, and they told me that they were going to send out Metro Heating and Air instead. In the meantime, Hudson Bridge said they were coming out and I told them AHS already assigned somebody else. They said they weren’t informed, so I called Home Shield, and the rep did a three-way. She called and talked to them.
I informed the rep about them sending the email to my wife that they are diagnosing the AC. She said that's not true 'cause she monitored the call, recorded it and laid it for him. Hudson Bridge said they called me six times on Tuesday when it went out. The next day, I called them more than that, which was when they told me they couldn't come till Friday. By this time, the rep was already looking for someone else, which is Metro Heating & Air. Because there was so much going on and so many people with air conditioning units breaking down, they wouldn't be able to get to me till 6:00 or 7:00 o'clock. I said okay because I had dealt with them before. I couldn't get my furnace to stay lit and they sent Tommy out. He's very good at what he does and he came and did that for me in the winter. This summer, Tommy came at the time he said he would and got the AC working instantly. With Metro Air, I had quite a fantastic end result, and that was fine.
I had a clog with my floor line, and AHS sent A&A plumbing. They ended up telling me that the problem is not in my line, but in the toilet itself. There was a lot of grease and hair over the period of 10 years that I've been in the house. That's why it got clogged and wouldn't move. I was told it wasn’t covered in my warranty and it ended up costing me $675. I want to know in detail how much of a coverage does Home Shield cover. Other than that, I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. I'm glad I have them and I would still recommend them.

My A/C went out today in 95+ degree weather. No problem I thought, this is why I purchased home insurance! I phone, go through every possible automated system choice with absolutely no way to speak with a live person. I go to their website, see an option to phone them! Utilize it, same thing! I see an area to chat with a representative, I choose this option. I get an error message, "There is no representative available to speak with you." Seriously??? My original contract states they are available 24/7.
I schedule a service call online. I receive no confirmation other than I will get an email confirmation. Which I never got. I also never got an estimated time frame. No, we will get back with you in an hour, tomorrow, the next day? I go to Facebook. Message the company there, get a response stating that due to higher volumes turn around is longer than anticipated. But again no time frame. I ask, today, tomorrow, longer? I was not answered accordingly. The response was, "We apologize for the delayed response, someone will contact you as soon as possible." I respond with, "Right! Is this today, tomorrow, longer?" I was told it would not be prior to the next 2 days!
So here I am, with a paid service, a broken air conditioner, in 95+ degree weather with thousands of dollars of saltwater coral dying due to increasing temperature (hence the insurance that is proving invaluable), 3 young children, 2 long haired standard poodles. I'm now out $600 in window units to attempt to make it through. Still no response from anyone! Unacceptable. I should at the very least have a phone call within 6-12 hours explaining how this would work, the time frame of any delays. Not 48+ hours.

We had an air conditioning problem in our upstairs unit, so we called American Home Shield to have somebody take a look and figure out why it wasn't working. I submitted my claim online and the process was great and easy. I had a message right back and the rep told me when I should expect someone. AHS had my cell phone number and they would text or email me with updates, so I felt like their communication was outstanding. I also heard from the technician when they'd arrive. The technicians already had another appointment out in this area, so when they finished, they came straight here. They've been sent by AHS here before and we love them.
However, the technicians needed a new coil and they had to order a part and get approval. Then they came again and replaced it. Now, it's all fixed very well and taken care of. Our only complaint was we didn't have to have some Freon put into the unit. AHS sent us a letter saying they're only paying $10 a gallon and we needed two gallons. We paid $200 for the freon and they only paid $20 which was only a small part of the charge for the freon. We also paid a $75 service call fee for them to come and figure out what's wrong with it. Other than that, AHS has been very proactive and that makes a big difference.

The vendors that Home Shield hires are shady. We just had our air conditioner replaced, after 7 call outs. One technician worked on it, left and had to come back and told us someone reversed the wiring after his work. No one went near the unit after he worked on it the first time. The owner wants to charge for parts that weren't used or needed. He signed the bill at the end of the project and said he would refund 200 plus dollars but it looks like we are going to have to dispute this with the bank. We had to give him our credit card number before he started work. He wanted to charge 200$ for a permit which cost 35$, the original estimate was 2900$. It came down to 1300$ after our discussion. I've been in the const. trade for over 35 years, he thought he had another pigeon. Do not hire Argo. They are dishonest, and they work for Home Shield and I believe Home Shield does not care.

I've been an American Home Shield customer for five years but I have already asked their rep about cancellation. I find some of their procedures to be wrong. The most recent claim I had with them was for my washer and dryer. Submitting the claim was easy but the follow-up is not as good. The problem starts after they have assigned a contractor. AHS will tell the customers that the repair person will call them in 24-hours to schedule an appointment but that may not happen. So customers will be waiting but they don't know when the repair person will call. Both the home phone and mobile phone numbers were given to the repair person but they never bother to call the second number.
Another problem ahead is that 9 out of 10 times the repairman who comes doesn’t have the part needed for the repair. So now, they have to order the part through American Home Shield. AHS will order the parts and then it's sent to the repairman. Then they will call and schedule an appointment whenever they see fit. What happened to me was, my washer quit, I called AHS, and the assigned man came out. He’s a wonderful and very experienced repairman. He's the one I'd always want to use if I had any more problems. He ordered the part and told me he'll let me know when it came in. It went on for six days and I never got a call. I called and was told by AHS that they just got the order that day. That was a lie. I watched the repairman as he ordered the part when he was here in my house. And he showed me the documentation. He came back when the part arrived and got the washing machine fixed.
While we were waiting for the washer part, my dryer quit too. I called American Home Shield and they sent out another guy. It was another four days before he came out. The guy said he's seen one of these before. And that gives a lot of confidence, but then he had to call his buddy by Facetime to find out what's wrong with it. Then he orders a bunch of parts and AHS said the parts are back order for two weeks. He came back and worked on the dryer from 2:30 to 8:00 o'clock at night on a Friday. The thing works and he doesn't check it out. So I called the washer man and he told me what was wrong with the dryer. It took a month to get the washer and dryer fixed. But they’re performing now and working like a champ.
Both contractors have great demeanors about them. The dryer guy just hadn't been doing it that long. But the washer man, Joe, has been doing it forever and is outstanding. He knew exactly what he was doing. He tried to fix it without ordering a new part. But he said, "I'm sorry, I'm just going have to order this part." He tried for 30 or 40 minutes to get it to work. The AHS reps on the other hand, they’re less than a customer service type person sometimes and need more training. But they're very good sometimes. When I had this thing with ordering the parts for the washing machine, the rep was curt and she tried to put the blame on the repair person. I'm American Home Shield's customer, not the customer of the repairman, and he's their contractor. I pay AHS and I will always check with them, not with that contractor.
AHS can streamline a lot of things. They want to order parts because they get them cheaper because of the volume they order and the repair people have to go through them. I've been told by repair people they have the part on the truck but they can't put it on because they should order it through AHS. That's not good. If they got the part on their truck, then they ought to be able to fix it in one trip. Look what that saves everybody. They should also look at having closer distribution centers or part centers. Like, I live in Birmingham, Alabama, my center should be Atlanta, not New York or California. That would cut down the waiting time.
Another thing is that it’s as if customers have to take all day long to wait for a repairman. The repair people can't tell in a three-hour span when they're going to arrive. And customers take off work. Then all of a sudden, the repairman doesn't come or there's something comes up or they get delayed. I understand getting delayed. But they should have the decency to call.
Mr. Hayes,
We do appreciate your patience regarding the timeframe for parts to be ordered rather it be through your warranty or the company themselves. We would like to connect with you in detail regarding your overall experience. A social media specialist will follow up with you soon. Thanks!

Our kitchen sink issue started a week before I called American Home Shield. I called them when I couldn't fix the sink myself and the response was timely. Everything was smooth. They contacted me before I had a chance to contact them to set up an appointment. The contractor came by, assessed the situation, realized that it couldn't be fixed and had to be replaced. They showed up with a new replacement three days later. They were polite and professional. They knew what they were doing and they educated me well. Everything was not right when we can't use our kitchen sink. Life seemed to be much better once they fixed it. American Home Shield is a great company to have for things that are unexpected.

I've had American Home Shield for years and I've always been very satisfied with them. I had a plumbing issue six months ago. The toilet was stopped up, so it wasn’t flushing. I submitted a claim, they contacted me within three hours and I set up the appointment. The guy came the next day and he was done in half an hour. It was a very uncomplicated process. The AHS representative and the contractor who came out were very friendly. It’s a rental property and I’m getting it ready to be rented in the winter. We happened to use the second bathroom, and my husband said it's not flushing. So that’s when we called them. Since the repair, it’s working. AHS is very reliable.

I submitted two claims online with American Home Shield. One was for my air-conditioning and another for a hot water heater. AHS replaced the air-conditioning. They gave me a credit for the amount of the repair that they would have charged me. They did not replace the hot water heater because at the time they would only fix the problem. But the hot water heater was not the real problem. The hot water heater was really old too and it was going to go so I just went ahead and replaced the hot water heater and not fix the expansion problem because I got a new expansion valve put in. So both items got fixed but it was because I ended up just buying new equipment for both. But the AHS contractors came out and they were prompt and very professional. They explained everything they were going to do and it was a good experience.

My most recent claim was the plumbing and a problem with a faucet that was continuously leaking. I've been with American for four years and the plumbing contractor has been the same so I know the folks with the plumbing company pretty well. AHS has been quick and professional and it's a nice insurance policy for someone if you're on a budget with a house.

We're dealing with a plumbing issue right now and we are on our third plumber through American Home Shield. We paid for the first one and they paid for the second one they sent out. However, they really need better companies. The first company told us all of our pipes were up and it couldn't be a plumbing issue. And so, we called American Home Shield back and they sent out a different company. I had to have someone go to my house for this because I can't take time off work. I've already taken off too much for this situation.
The second company came out and assessed the situation. We called them almost every day for two weeks and they kept telling us that they were waiting on AHS to approve for them a contract with someone else because they didn't have cameras for our type of issue. My husband called American Home Shield because nothing was getting done with the second company and when they called, the company said that they couldn't fix our issue. After two weeks of us dealing with them, they told us they couldn't do it.
Today we have our third plumbing company coming out and I really hope we're not paying for it. It's been a month since we started this process. While we've had our refrigerator and dishwasher fixed before and every other contractor has been great, the plumbing service has been terrible for the area that we're in. It's been so bad that we're thinking of hiring our own plumbing company. We are at that point wherein we just need to get it done. Also, we have water under our tile so I really hope it’s not molding because that is an even bigger issue.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for the garage door opener a month ago. The rep I spoke to was professional. When the contractor came, he was good and polite and the work was done effectively. My garage had been working since he repaired it. I’m glad I actually got them. We’ve had a couple of experiences that were not so good with the contractors that came out for our air conditioner about three years ago and I was very disappointed with how American Home Shield handled that. But since then, everything had been good. I've also recommended them to somebody.

I had an excellent recent experience with American Home Shield. I had a stuck-up kitchen sink because I put some pasta down my garbage disposal and it didn’t work. I tried a lot of home remedies to unstick it and it wouldn’t unstick, so I knew I needed to get a plumber to come in. I called American Home Shield and they sent the gentleman. He was very professional and very knowledgeable. He did what he needed to do to unstuck my sink. I have nothing but the highest praise for him.
Submitting a claim was fine. I really rather do it personally, but the day was ending and I knew that they were going to be gone and I wanted to get it in. So, I just got off the phone and went online to submit the claim. It worked pretty well and I was surprised. We've had American Home Shield for a long time and they have been excellent and worth the money that we spent over time. They saved just a fair amount of money.
I had an experience with one of their vendors, though. I'm not sure if they do background consumer checks on all their vendors. I went to the Better Business Bureau online while they were here and they got bad ratings and found out later that they were being investigated for fraud by an insurance company. I am disappointed that American Home Shield did not do extensive enough check on one vendor because what that vendor did was refer me to a kitchen supply company and that they were going to redo my whole kitchen and I just knew something was off. They were there within 30 minutes after the plumber had left and I was not pleased by that. I just don’t think they do an adequate job.
I now vet the vendor with the Better Business Bureau before I say yes to them. It should be unnecessary as much as I'm paying American Home Shield the monthly charge. But overall, my experience has been quite good, with just some questions about how they vet their vendors because they need to do a more extensive job of that.

We used American Home Shield a few times recently. The most recent claim we submitted was for our pool and it’s been a bad experience. AHS set us up with a contractor and we called the company. However, the contractor didn’t service our area. It took me an hour to get AHS back on the line. We had to do that twice before somebody would come out.
It took a week to finally find a company that services our area. They came out and repaired the pump of the pool. We hired somebody from Angie’s List to clean the pool. When the pool was opened, the pump wasn’t working right. So again, we had to call AHS and put in another request. Of course, their first thing to ask was, “Oh, we fixed it. What are you talking about?” We had to argue with them to get them to go back out there and check it. And it turns out, the contractors didn’t repair it completely. They had to add some more parts and they’re still waiting on one more part that’s coming on Tuesday. We put in the original work request about a month ago now. We just moved out and we had promised our kids the pool. And then the renters who moved in had planned a pool party, so it made us look bad because they plan on using the pool when they move in.
Overall, AHS' customer service is good. But they’re not doing what they’re supposed to do because we still end up with the same problem—calling back the contractors ourselves and going back and forth with AHS because the contractors don’t service our area. Also, each time I called in, I had to wait almost an hour before I can talk to somebody. Though once I’m on the phone with somebody, they have been polite and they try to take care of us as much as they could.
Our service with AHS wasn’t working good. It’s like they’re leaving us in the middle. We’re paying them for a service. We went online to use a service that’s free to find a person to clean the pool and that took us five minutes. And within the next 30 minutes, we had three people calling us. As much as it has been a bad experience, a lot of it too has something to do with our area and the contractors. But I’ve already looked up other similar companies with AHS because of the bad experience we’ve had with them.

I filed a claim online to American Home Shield for the repair of my AC. It was in the height of heat so I followed up with a call on Sunday and had someone by Thursday. They were pleasant, efficient and responsive. The first technician wasn't communicative and couldn’t explain what happened. He used an industry term that I had to google so that I’ll know what he was talking about. He did not explain anything to my sister-in-law who was in the house while I was on the phone with him. He said something about internal heat and the timer which had been out a few days before. The experience wasn’t good enough so I called again American Home Shield and told them I didn’t want that technician back and I needed somebody else to come. They sent someone by Tuesday. He went up the attic and checked. He ensured it was working and got back the cool. After that, I didn’t have a problem and it’s still working.

Through online though, I got a response quickly, however, they said that the AC guy would be out there on Tuesday. This wasn’t good enough for me. Tracy, our account representative through Watson, helped to accelerate the job. She got them there on a Saturday morning and the AC got fixed the following afternoon, instead of Tuesday. The tenant was happy with the company that did the repair job, Total Air Care. Since then, I haven’t had any complaints from her. Except for the difficulty of calling in, everything was great with AHS. We’d use them again.

I bought this house a month ago and I had a septic trouble within 48 hours of buying it. I got two septic tanks and the bottom was backing up. It has been a nightmare. When I first called American Home Shield, I got somebody within a minute and they hooked it up right then and there. I called the second time because I had a question and it took about 30 minutes on the phone to get somebody, it must be during a high call time. But once I get somebody on the phone, they took care of it.
KNS Plumbing's response was quick. If they called on a Monday, they would be there between Wednesday to Friday. Their technician explained everything to me and did his job. He went down there and got the Roto-Rooter, popped it and basically got the block out. But we think that the septic tank might still be full because it's still backing up. So, we are going to have a septic company, ATC come down.
With ATC, I waited about a week but they never called. When I called them up, the lady said she didn’t tell Home Shield that it's going to take three or four weeks for them to get out here. I told them I want to make sure it was actually in the process. She responded that the 21st will be the best window to get here. I do not know who they contracted that time but they never called to set it up with me. I had to call them about a week and a half to make sure that it is going through the process. They may have been busy and must have slipped their mind. And I'm not holding that against them. But if contractors are supposed to call within a certain time limit, AHS should make sure the contractors understand they need to do that. Overall I didn’t have any problems with the claim I made with American Home Shield. They had prompt service and were easy to get in contact.

The garage door worked better when he was done than it has ever worked and it was fantastic. The whole experience was excellent. We also had an AC problem a couple of months ago. I had been told that it needed to be replaced by a company about a year ago, but it ran and I didn't have any real problems with it. But then it started making a funny noise, and the technicians came out. It was all a Freon issue and a dryer thing. They were also quite entertaining because they had a good sense of humor. They did a good job professionally, and that gives them an A plus as well. All experiences I had with AHS were excellent. I started recommending people to them and I most certainly will continue with them.

American Home Shield is a convenient service and they generally produce good results. It's nice that I can get online quickly and set up an appointment, and I get the service guy out and I don't have to track him down. Recently, we submitted a claim online and had a service for our refrigerator. We had a leak and we had to turn the water off, so we couldn't dispense water or make ice cubes. But it took two or three days to get the appointment set up and the contractor took a couple of days to come out. It would have been better if he had been 24 hours faster.
But once the contractor came, he did a great job and fixed the refrigerator. The contractor was there for only 20 minutes and he found the problem quickly. We pulled the refrigerator out and he inspected everything, and he found that there was a hose that had kinks. He took apart the right things and got the job done, and we were happy with what he did which was aboveboard and transparent since he showed me everything that he was doing. We had a handle on the refrigerator break, too, but that part is no longer produced by the manufacturer, and the contractor told us quickly that he couldn't do anything about that. He also gave me a bunch of contact information for him in case there's a future leak. The performance of the refrigerator has been excellent since the repair.

AHS is a no-brainer for a homeowner. They’ve been great and their service has been phenomenal. We've had lots of other home warranty companies throughout the years by selling houses and I wouldn’t want to go with any other warranty company. We had two recent claims with AHS, both of which involved our air conditioner. One of them was we were having a problem with a circuit fuse and it blew up the circuit board in our AC. It caused arching and used a lot of power which caused our power bill to be $1000. It made the unit go crazy, but because it didn’t flip the breaker, it stayed on because it still had a power source to it. It's supposed to use 4 kilowatts and it was using 20. The unit had also been running warm and not running to max efficiency.
I submitted the claim over the phone. It was automated and quick. The contractor who came was phenomenal. We live 45 minutes away from their area and they told us that they service our area three days a week, which is convenient. There was another air conditioner issue where the electrical part of the AC went out. AHS sent out the same contractor to fix the problem that they didn’t identify when they first came out. But the reason it wasn’t identified is that there's a big hidden problem for it. They replaced that on the spot and fixed it.

We submitted a claim for our washer to American Home Shield and confirmed online that it had been submitted. It worked out well. We got a call but it took several days to get scheduled which always seems to happen because we're in a rural area. It’s a little discouraging and we actually had to ramrod that before. But the washer wasn't hyper critical. The guy came out was fairly local and once he was here he had been alerted to what was going on with the washer. He didn’t have any trouble keying in on what needed to be repaired, had the part on the truck and he took care of it on site.
He had to change some little rubber friction on it that drives the washer drum and it wasn’t easy to do. We had to correctly dismantle the entire washer to get down to the base where it was. He probably was here an hour and a half, knocked through it and placed everything together then it worked fine ever since. He explained everything well and we were really happy with him.
He did an outstanding job and we were gonna request him by name again in the future because he’s one of those guys that you like having to work in your home. If you’re gonna have somebody working you want somebody that’s careful with stuff, doesn’t kick the walls and bangs things around. We’ve been with AHS for 10 years and we’ve had to wrestle to find appropriate parties to do repairs but we’ve had great service.

I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for my air conditioning that was leaking water into my ceiling. I was spending twice everyday racking out 30 gallons of water off the pan. That went for 6 days before I was seen because it didn't submit as an emergency for whatever reason. I attempted to call them to tell that it was urgent but it took so long to get through that I gave up and thought that at least they were coming. We've had AHS for five years and that was the first delayed response I've ever had. Then the contractor who came was good and in and out in less than an hour. That second person really helped out a lot and he erased the first one for me in my head. The claim was for the air conditioning for both times and I went with the same people. It’s working okay now and within two degrees of the thermometer in the house thermostat. Integrity A/C was very good. When I spoke with the representative of AHS, she did well. It was on a weekend. By the time my husband noticed it was sort of too late because it did start leaking to where his clothes are in the closet so we had some water damage. But the gentlemen came immediately the next day and he fixed it. And then two days later he came and put something so that if that happens again it would shut the unit off completely. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for a washer. I did it over the phone and it was easy. The representatives were good and they were immediate. The technician was courteous and professional but I have a problem with their service because after almost a total of five weeks, the repair's not yet done. It took a week before they got out here to even check my issue. Then they had to order a main board which I thought would be here in about two weeks.
I called several times and I didn't appreciate the individual who answered the phone. She seemed to be an older woman. She said things to me, a consumer, that I didn't think was very kind. In fact, when I was trying up the phone by calling, she told me that it's not going to make the technician move any faster. She also said the main board should be in this coming week but that's what she told me last week. I told her that I'm a caregiver for my mom and that the washer is important to have. She said that unfortunately, the people that they’re ordering the board from don’t care about that. She could be a little more tactful. But the technician who came was very pleasant and he knew his job.
So far, I'm still without a washer. They only said that the technician doesn't get paid until the job is complete. So they want to complete the job as soon as possible and they may get an advise next week. Everything was done by computer and that's the way it is. That's what I was told. I'm hoping that I don't get this kind of experience with the air-conditioning or with whatever goes with American Home Shield. They seem to have a lot of other companies out there but I'm not pleased with this particular company that's fixing my washer. The company shouldn't be talking to consumers this way. They need to at least empathize with the people that they're dealing with. I won't be doing business with this company again.
It's unfortunate because with a 92 year old person, there’s a lot of laundry and it has to be done on a daily basis. I've had to track out to a laundromat as I don't keep laundry here. I don't blame Home Shield because in the past, they have been very timely on fixing some appliances here. They took care of everything. In the beginning, it's fun. They were very nice to some issues we had in the kitchen area and they were very prompt. They kept me up to date, called and let me know through my email that they were working on my claims and when they expect the appliance to arrive. So I appreciated that and that's what made me add more to the partial contract that I had with them. I started to pay more because I was very pleased on how they had completed the job. They're a professional company and they respond quickly when I was calling them.

I have been a customer of AHS for over 5 years! I placed a service call online on 8/15/17 for a electrical outlet problem for the microwave, and a bathroom fan not working. I paid $125 online for the service call fee in advance. It took over 24 hours for a company to call me. I called AHS and asked if my service call to be routed to a company that can come by the next business day! The electrician arrived on 8/17. He explained that in order to repair the problem with the microwave so that it will work consistently is to rewire the electrical wiring so that it doesn't short out.
The electrician calls Sabina in the AHS Authorization department and she refuses to pay for the covered repair which costs about $500 or so. She used a lame excuse that she just sent them to my home to "assess" the problem and that they will not authorize a repair because they consider it to be a "modification"! Any repair to a electrical wiring system can considered a "modification"! They always use weak excuses to try to get out of paying for the repair. I want my money back!! The entire $486 that I had to pay the electrician! AHS only paid the electrician $95 of the $125 I paid previously! The electricians had already taken down my microwave off the wall and other things in anticipation of completing the repairs the next business day
The customer service agent with AHS was nonchalant, rude, and really could care less. I asked repeatedly to speak to a supervisor and I was denied or told it will be in 24-48 hours. 48 hours from now is Saturday! What is supposed to happen in the meanwhile? My repair should have been paid for and I want to be reimbursed the $486 that I spent on repairs that should have been covered! I will NEVER recommend them to a friend or family member ever again!

I just bought the house and a 25-year old air conditioner came with it. It’s leaking water over the ceiling because it’s on the second level and my kitchen ceiling is falling but I cannot fix it until I fix the leak. I called AHS and they were friendly. The technician who came was fine but he said he cannot help me because the equipment is working. He said it’s good but I have to replace it.
Then the second time, I had to wait until Monday because it started Friday and the same people came in and said that the air is falling through the hole but they cannot do anything because it’s not the air, it’s the platform where the air is. The water that is leaking out of the air corroded the wood and they said they'd cover the ceiling but cannot take the air out. So I asked how are they going to fix the ceiling without fixing the air and they said that I have to go with somebody else. I then called another person, paid $7000 so he can come and replace my whole air, then I could fix the ceiling and the whole thing cost me now $10000. It has been a different and weird experience.

I needed my air conditioner to be looked at since it was not cooling as per our tenant at home. I called American Home Shield and it was not easy but not difficult. It was the wait to talk to a representative. When I finally had someone on line, I asked for a specific vendor and they were not part of their contractors so we went with somebody else. That was fine. She put in the request and that part was easy.
One technician never showed up. They were unable to contact me or my tenant so it was up to us to contact the vendor which we could never get anybody on the line. I called American Home Shield on the weekend and they told us that their vendors are not required to work weekends. They could cancel the order and redo it and give me somebody else but it would still be another 48 hours before the new vendor would contact them which I found was unacceptable. My tenant was left without AC over the weekend so he ended up fixing it himself. I am not too thrilled with the representative I talked to and definitely not their choice of vendor.
I've not had any complaints after my tenant fixed the air conditioner but I called AHS again, which was another lengthy wait and have them reassign me another local vendor. The technician is on his way there to double check everything. The vendor that I spoke to seemed nice enough. Overall, my experience was frustrating and dissatisfying. But two of the three representatives I spoke to were great and I know it’s not their fault, the representatives can only do so much.

I had a plumbing issue and called AHS to make a claim over the phone. I got someone on the line and they asked me what the problem was so I told them. They said that someone will be in touch with me shortly then someone did and scheduled an appointment. The contractor came by and did the repair. He was very courteous, clean, well-mannered and took care of everything. He did very well and everything worked perfectly. It was a positive experience and I’d recommend them to a friend.

We had a transformer problem. I had two things that burnt out and so I called American Home Shield. However, I was on the phone for hours. I kept holding the whole night because they kept on saying, "We appreciate you waiting for us. You have to wait in line." I needed to talk to somebody. The next alternative was to go online and setup appointments. The next day, I called them again and I was made to wait for three to four hours. Finally, I was able to contact somebody on Wednesday after waiting for half an hour to talk.
Yesterday, they sent me an email that a payment didn't go through for the service of my dryer. The guy who came to repair the dryer didn't have access to my credit card. I called and again, I was kept on the phone forever. Finally, I went online and updated the credit card number which was the same. However, I want to know why the payment didn't go through if AHS has my card. The monthly payment towards AHS was taken from there but the payment for the dryer was not.
Nevertheless, the technicians who came out to our house were very nice and reasonable. When I did get customer care, their reps were very nice as well. They said they were very sorry and that they were very busy. They said they didn't know why my long wait happened but they were looking into it. Still, I called a month later and had the same issue. We were with another company and we switched to AHS. They said they have 24 hours service but then no customer service person speaking on the phone. AHS doesn't meet the standards they have on their website and it's very disappointing.

We've been with American Home Shield for too long. A couple of weeks ago, our air went out. We called them on Monday morning and it was Thursday before they got out. Before that, we had to get to a hotel because we were getting sick. I have an 85 year old mother who's bed ridden and we had to get her out of the house as well around Wednesday night. I think they should have to pay for that. But then they got the AC working.
Now the toilet has a little leak and then the bathroom sink's broken up where it's turning the water on and off. Also, the kitchen sink is messed up and it needed a new faucet too because the handle is broken off. They sent the plumbing people out and they're supposed to order some parts. Then the plumbing people called and wanted to know the same thing and I said, "No, I don't have it finished. You supposedly ordered the parts." So I have to call American Home Shield and I'm getting really frustrated.
It's hard to get in touch with them. The minute I get on the phone, I finally have to put them on speaker and it's hard to do. I don't have time to sit and hang onto my phone and be right by it. But the representative and the contractors were very nice. They said they'll replace it. And if they don't, I'm going to cancel. My father-in-law has a service through another company and I'm just thinking about switching. I'm extremely disappointed and unsatisfied with them.

My air conditioner had a problem, so I called AHS and they sent a real nice gentleman to fix it. He took time to explain things to my wife that we didn’t know about like how we're supposed to have bleach or cider into a pipe drain across the pump. The air conditioner worked fine ever since. Everything was handled just like it should have been. When we filed claims, we had good guys many times so it’s just wonderful.

The most recent claim I had with AHS went exceedingly smooth. I called in and they sent me an email saying that somebody has been assigned. The contractor who came was very nice and very easy to talk to. I only have one real problem with American Home Shield. Back in December, my microwave had problems and it took three months and more than three visits from various contractors to determine that it needed to be replaced. It was lengthy, but it was all very pleasant.
We kind of knew early on that it was not going to be able to be repaired. It wasn’t that old but it had some major electronic error that various persons who worked on it said they didn't know what it was. The good news is I got another microwave. They determined how much they would give me and the one that I actually wanted was worth $50 more and I paid that. But it was worth it because I got new one. I tried to convince other people to have American Home Shield warranty on their house.

I've been with American Home Shield for a very long time and I've had a lot of stuff repaired. And recently, I've had a dryer, air conditioner, water leak and an electrical claim done. Submitting claims has been okay but sometimes, it takes a little too long for you to get somebody out. Also sometimes the waiting process is a little too long. Their reps are always very pleasant though and the contractors have always done a good job. The fee that you pay when the contractors come out went up and sometimes things get a little hectic, but they've always taken care of the problem. When things get worse or stop working, they replace the value that they have to. I'm pretty satisfied with them.
I checked on my neighbors, and they were with other home warranties, and they said, "Don't do it. Just stay with American Home Shield.” So, I stayed with them. My husband's in the Air Force, so we moved around. We got the home warranty because we know we could be out of pocket for an enormous amount of money if we don't have something to help us. Even though there's a monthly fee, sometimes it’s big ticket items that they're replacing. I've got a brand-new microwave because they couldn't fix it. If they can't fix it, they're replacing it. So, that's a pretty decent deal. Having American Home Shield is a good deal for the money. It's worth it and for the most part, everything has been good.

I had a plumbing problem and AHS sent a polite and efficient contractor. He dresses nicely, lets me know when he's coming and comes on time with everything he needs. After almost two months, the issue seemed to re-appear. The sink was clogged up and I couldn't wash dishes. Submitting a claim sometimes is hard to do unless I want to do the automated thing. The first time, it was okay. But the second time, I needed the same company to come back because it was a return visit and therefore, I wouldn't have another service charge. I called but unfortunately, I waited an hour and 20 minutes to get through and talk to someone.
I particularly wanted the young man that AHS sent the first time but they were booked solid, so the return visit was over a weekend. I've been happy with most things with American Home Shield. I had a refrigerator problem within this last year and I ended up being without a refrigerator for a very long time. Luckily, I had someone who had an empty freezer and somebody else who had a big ice chest and we did okay. The contractors ended up rebuilding the refrigerator and it's working fine now.

We’ve had about five claims with American Home Shield after we bought this house and the most recent one was plumbing related. We were fully satisfied with the service. The contractor did a good job but there was a piece of our sink that he thought was not needed and he took it. We didn’t think it was a big deal until we tried to replace it and couldn’t really find an acceptable replacement. We had contacted them to try to get that small piece back to no success. And there’s also a little bit of hard pressure tactic to try to get us to renew at a price that doesn’t seem economical.

I had a problem with our air conditioning unit in July so I contacted American Home Shield. It’s a central heat and air and was not blowing cold air. They put Freon in but soon after that, it stopped blowing cold air again. I contacted them back, which is very hard to do and I told them that my mom is elderly and I need the day when I was going to be at home for them to come out. They couldn’t arrange that so after I ended the call, they put me on a date and sent me an email to that effect. I then called them back and asked them to cancel. Their connections are great and the people that they sent out are good but their customer service in trying to get a good date that works for both myself and the technician is almost impossible. Also, I cannot get them to answer the phone and it’s hard to stay in contact with them, but they don’t have a problem with sending a text or an email asking me to rate them on the internet.
I wish to see shorter hold time to get in contact with them, as far as actually speaking to a person. If we can’t speak to a person, a better system to be able to select the appointment would be good. Also, they should get vendors who are not busy. Making an appointment for a week or week and a half out is too long for a person to be without their air or heat. American Home Shield wants the people who have already worked on my air-conditioning to come out and clean up their mess but I can’t get them to work with my schedule. So our air-conditioning still is not working and it may not get to work for the remainder of the summer.

The company that came out was very professional and did a good job. We were so happy with the epic service so we're considering hiring them for regular maintenance, about twice a year, to make sure everything's working fine. The AC is working fine now and the technician went above and beyond because he let us know that there was a different unit upstairs that needed a filter change. He went ahead and looked at all the units while he was there. The salesman that came out was very professional, knowledgeable and timely, so we're very happy. All in all, we find the service to be valuable to have.

My air conditioner was out for 5 days before the service call appointment, not acceptable when the heat index is above 100. Ended up hiring another company to fix the air conditioner, resulting in out of pocket expense. Had the same issue with a hot water heater, took over a week to replace it.

First off, I have learned that, if you want to be a responsive Landlord, never get a Home Warranty. They are so s-l-o-w and your tenants will be unhappy and leave and that's not a good thing. However, that's the least of my frustrations. Secondly, every time I call, I am expected to wait 15-30 minutes to speak to someone. I can see why their phones are always busy. They have a lot of unhappy customers to deal with. Thirdly, I had a 1982 dryer that should have been replaced, but they sent someone out to fix it. The repair man said it should be replaced. The repair would not hold. He left because of the smell of gas in the basement and has not been back. I had to pay a plumber to fix all the leaking gas problem.
The problem with the dryer began July 4th and as of August 17 it is still not resolved. Finally, I called 3 times to cancel my account and was told someone would call me back within 24 hours to help me with that. Of course, no call back. Eventually I had to cancel my credit card to stop them from charging me every month. I will never waste my money on a Home Warranty again. Better to self-insure.
Nina,

I have been fighting to get AHS to repair my home heat pump system since May (over 3 months) and still with no resolution. The issue has been the cost of the repairs, as my Fujitsu system is older and outdated, so parts are harder to locate. Since the main unit is outdated, both the main unit as well as the 'heads' in the home need to be upgraded, which my contract with AHS clearly states they will do. The contractor they assigned to repair my system has found the parts, but AHS will not allow him to order or supply the parts, as they state they can obtain the parts at a lower price. After almost two weeks, AHS finally sent the contractor the parts which were completely incorrect and would not work.
The contractor called again and repetitively explained his warehouse had the parts available, and could supply them within 24-48 hours. Again AHS declined, and told the contractor that he (the contractor) would have to convert the system to a different brand (Carrier), which would require not only retrofitting where and how the heads mount, but a complete retrofit of all operating hoses, lines and fittings and that would be at my expense! In repeated attempts to call AHS and speak to a supervisor, I am either told 'they are in a meeting', or leave me on hold for extremely long periods of time, obviously in hopes that I will give up and hang up.
AHS is not honoring their contract and in fact are even completely in breach of their contract, and taking advantage of consumers who cannot afford to bypass them and have repairs done which they profess in their written contract to cover in good faith. And now I am being told that even if they install the same system that is a direct fit, it is also considered an 'upgrade' since they say 'We dont match brand or style' and I still have to pay $3000 - what a SCAM!!!

The first contractor that American Home Shield reached out to took two days before we contacted him, and he said that he didn't have time to get to me 'till six days later. At the same time, I've also let AHS know that I was having secondary damage. I had water that was leaking and it was getting on my carpet. So for three days of going back and forth with AHS, I requested for a manager to call me and I never received a phone call yet about that issue. I'm disappointed. But the interaction I had with the contractor was pretty good although I wish they sent out a different company. It's been a fairly good experience. I called back to AHS asking for someone else but they don’t have somebody else in the area so they sent the same gentleman. He came in, supposedly fixed it again, and it wasn't 'till the next day when he got it corrected. It took him about a week to get it done. It interrupted the operations a little bit because I'm trying to keep the pool from turning green, especially with the heat. But now the pool pump is fine.
Since AHS got bought out, their performance has definitely deteriorated and it's frustrating. It’s very hard to get a hold of anyone to talk to and it's really a long wait, sometimes 45 minutes. Furthermore, Drain Masters don't answer their phones after 5 o'clock and our calls go directly to an answering service.
Once we had a major leak in our garage and we told AHS that we needed somebody immediately. However, Drain Masters would not come out because it happened to be a weekend when our problem occurred. We reached out to American Home Shield to have service on our water valves. We were unable to turn off our water since the valves were rusted. AHS sent RG Plumbing and they replaced the valves so that we could turn our water on and off. But after they left, we noticed a reduction in water pressure, especially the hot water in the master bathroom. Since we didn’t know how the process goes, we just reached out to the plumber a couple of times and got no response. I called back to AHS and they said they had to schedule a recall. They did that and sent the plumber back out. Although, there were a couple of weeks going back and forth to get it rescheduled for a recall.
However, when the plumber came back, he would not diagnose or do any repairs on a recall. He said it was going to be a new service order and it wasn’t covered. So, he packed up and left. When AHS was going to send out another plumber, a different service from a different company and had that scheduled, RG Plumbing called us back and said that AHS was unable to transfer the service to another plumber and that RG Plumbing had to finish it themselves. RG Plumbing was very nice and scheduled a different technician, with more experience, to come out and tell us what was going on. So it was the same company but a different technician came out on Friday. He diagnosed and assessed the situation for us and it was resolved. AHS was great in handling even a technician that wasn’t as great and that was coming from one of their companies.
Since the repair, the performance of the water valves is satisfactory. It gave us more sound of mind. The water valves were improved and now we know that if we have a leak, we can turn off our water valves ourselves. Another thing is that the wait time on the phone was about 45 minutes to an hour and that was the only downside to getting in touch with someone. But their online portal is very user-friendly if someone's just initiating a claim. Their follow ups and customer service were great. All in all, it was a positive, easy and quality experience. It's what we would expect.

I'm am currently seeking to cancel my service and I've had to call back three times back to back because either customer service had me on the phone while I can hear their conversation with someone else. Or, I spoke to someone in sales and they sent me to a number that no one answer. So now I patiently wait over 30 mins for someone to cancel my account. I hope AHS the best in improving their customer service they provide in addition, consider their customer's input in regards to company's that poorly service their home.

I normally don't write reviews no matter how dissatisfied I am but I am at my wits end with AHS. Worst experience ever with any service company. If I could terminate my contract I would but my husband just renewed it early this year. I am impatiently awaiting when our contract will expire. If you know what is best for you, NEVER use this company. Find other home owners insurance companies out there please. I am currently researching other companies.
We have heard AHS for 15 years and every year, their service keeps deteriorating. On July 3rd, called them because my dryer and dishwasher stopped working. They sent out a technician from Pro-Appliance Services LLC. The guy came out and only spent 10 minutes at the house. He said he has to order parts for the dryer and he will come out once parts arrive within 7-10 business days to fix the dryer and dishwasher. He then took the $75 dollar payment from us and left. 11 days passed, we never heard back from the technician so I called his company and left a couple of voicemails within a span of a week. He never called back. Finally, we received an email from American Home Shield that our service request was completed and the job was done.
I called them and told them the dryer and dishwasher were both still not repaired, how can they say it was repaired. I now narrated to them what happened. So they calling Pro Appliance Services while I was put on hold. Of course, they never answered as usual so AHS said they left a voicemail. Next day, Pro Appliance Services called me back and said they were waiting parts and the parts are to arrive within next 3 days so they will call to schedule time to come out. I never hear back from them again after that. I have since been calling them and AHS and no one is responding. I have contacted AHS several times and all they can do is call the company to contact me which they haven't apart from the one time above.
Right now as I speak, I have been on hold for the past hour to speak with AHS. Right before I called American Home Shield (AHS), I called Pro Appliance Services, as usual no one is there to answer calls, you only get voicemail and they never return calls. This ordeal started on July 3rd and today is July 26th, almost one month later. I have requested AHS to cancel my service request ticket with Pro Appliance Services, and they have refused. So I am just suppose to wait around for how long until they decided to send someone to complete the repairs. Moreover, calling AHS is like pulling teeth, you can't hardly get hold of them without waiting over hours. By the way, remember I said above, I am on hold with them, and hour 15 minutes later, am still on hold. RIDICULOUS!!
Mind you after all this wait, someone will come on the phone, only to insist they will call Pro Appliance Services and I will have to just wait till they contact me. Now, you see my frustration?!? What an awful company. AHS has no customer service etiquette. They treat their PAYING clients like crap (excuse my French). Moreover, they need contract with good companies, not individuals who collect money without doing the repairs/job. I am highly unhappy, dissatisfied and disappointed with AHS. If I could terminate my contract this very second, I would. I am fed up and tired of dealing with American Home Shields. If you value customer service and your time, stay away from American Home Shield and Pro Appliance Services.
P.s....well, I finally spoke with an AHS rep after the long (over an hour) wait on the phone. As I had guessed, not much AHS could do. The rep called Pro Appliance Services but they had closed for lunch (1:18), so the company was left a voicemail to call me back. Really!?! Someone wake me up from this HORRIBLE NIGHTMARE. WORST company I have ever dealt with, don't waste your time using them.
Today is August 14, 2017 and I am still dealing with the same issue. Pro Appliance Services finally came out on August 8th and as of today the 14th of August, dryer is not working again. I have been on the phone waiting to talk with someone for the past 1 hour 30 minutes. Now, tell me anyone has such time to waste. I can't wait for my contract to end so I can move on to another company.
Mrs. Simon,
Thank you for being a loyal customer with us for 13 years. Since our call volume is starting to decrease, our hold time is beginning to do the same. Please allow a social media specialist at American Home Shield to follow up with you to ensure your issue seeks resolution. Thanks!

This company has figured out every way to prevent communicating with a service assistant. Your phone holds are so long they know you will hang up before anyone ever speaks with you. Their internet site provides no means for resolving a problem as you are forced to choose from other selections only. Their service appointed people for my area and problems of the past are not good. My first experience was as bad as it gets. The heat pump compressor failed. It took over 10 days to get the part from AHS then put it on. This was in October and cold at nights. No heat for almost two weeks!
My second nightmare just began on July 25, 2017. The heat pump fan burned out. A service tech arrived a couple days later but had to obtain the part. He was a nice guy, no problem with him, but the part they replaced was fitted with an incorrect part. They installed a 1/2 horsepower motor but the unit calls for a 1/3 HP motor. I was advise of the incorrect part by another company that normally services the unit twice yearly. I contacted the company that performed the repairs but they stated that I would have to contact AHS to have them return to correct the error. At that time my nightmare intensified!
Somehow I must figure out how to contact a human at AHS to resolve this problem but no one ever answered my calls. I also had tried to cancel my warranty after my first negative experience but no way to ever do that. Again, this must be done with an "associate" that does not exist to take calls. There is no cancel contract form on their website either. To sum up, this company is worthless and will become your worst nightmare when it comes to actual service! Stay away from AHS! The service sucks and support does not exist and a timely manner. But if you need to get your blood pressure up, this company will do that easily.

I had a ceiling fan that went out and a clog in my Thermador cooktop so I filed claims to AHS. I have made the two claims close to each other but the Thermador was the most recent one. I submitted the claims over the phone and the experience was very easy. Their rep was very helpful and the contractor they sent was very nice, efficient and quick. The fan and cooktop are now working super and the same as before they broke. The repair made life a lot easier to use them again. We also had a difficult time finding someone that would service the area where I live, but AHS didn’t say they can’t find anybody in our area and checked on till they did find someone. They were very diligent and efficient about getting someone to do the job. I'm very satisfied and I renewed my contract with them.

We have home appliance warranty through American Home Shield (www.ahs.com). We had problem with plumbing system in our home. We called AHS to open a service call. They sent the R. E. Willard Plumbing to our home. This plumbing company has worst reviews and is advised to avoid be at all cost. AHS DOES NOT CHECK THE COMPANY'S PROFESSIONALISM AND CREDIBILITY. The problem is NOT fixed and we were charged $100. AHS did not do check the company's capability to fix plumbing problem and collected $100 from us.
R. E. Willard Plumbing should be avoided at all cost. Very rude and unprofessional service. The technician did not know what to do and made us do work. The problem is not fixed yet. After the technician's visit when we tried to call their office for 3 hrs., we got answering machine. This company should be banned to do business.

Before you start a service, here are facts:
2. They'll send you the technicians with bad reviews on Yelp (because they are cheapest).
3. For a simple fix like an AC outlet pipe blockage which is a 5 min job you have to pay the out of pocket fee (mine was $125).
4. Once you signed up you are stuck in a year contract and have to pay cancellation fee.
5. Expect to talk to rude employees when canceling.
Bottom line it's more wise to call outside tech of your choice and get a decent job and pay for it (which might be a lot cheaper) unless you have really broken house which you expecting something major will break and you can accept a low quality fix.
Allen,
Thank you for notifying us of your concerns. We will be more than happy to address them with you soon. A social media specialist will be in contact with you to help resolve these issues. Thank you kindly!

My air-conditioner backed up and wasn't draining properly so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was easy. I prefer to call AHS as I do not like the online service. I am just much more comfortable with their excellent service advisers who are professional and informed. At first, they could not immediately set me up with the person that I wanted because he had a full schedule and couldn’t accept calls until the next day. So now at midnight, the other guy’s queue was accessed and they assigned me to the wrong company.
I got an email and text at midnight saying that the wrong company was going to contact me and they did. I wasn’t about to deal with it and I said that there had been an error. I contacted American Home Shield after and they immediately got me in touch with the right contractor. He scheduled me for a visit as soon as he could and he came out very timely. He fixed the problem and everything was done within a few minutes.
There is an AHS contractor whom I've had issues with before and do not want back in my home. I feel they're unsafe and so I don't want to be exposed to them. At first, they told me there wasn't any problem. In truth, they installed my furnace wrong which could've killed me. But the contractor who came for my air-conditioning is somebody who I would definitely want to come back to my home again. He was very professional and knowledgeable. Also, he answered lots of questions and knows his stuff. Now, my air conditioner works like it’s supposed to. I’ve been your customer for 17 years and I’m very grateful for the services.

The people at American Home Shield are sometimes hard to get a hold of when you call them on the phone. I waited 45 minutes one time to contact them before I finally gave up. But they've done a good job when being able to get hold of them. I've had two claims with them, and one was just to fix the door on the refrigerator. I wasn’t there because the house was covered as a rental and it’s in Florida while I live in Colorado. The renter told me that they fixed it fine. Prior to that, it was air conditioning, and I was there at that time. They had major parts replacement and the guy that came did a good job of replacing the copper coil. The air conditioning Freon had been leaking so they took care of that as well. I talked to the repair guy and he explained everything he was doing while I watched him. He worked hard and did a nice job.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield with my refrigerator. The compressor went out and it was leaking Freon. It costs more to repair than it would be worth repairing, so the technician recommended replacement. We all agreed to that. The make and model that was to replace mine, which was 12 years old, was at $1099. I wanted to upgrade, so I went and found the one that we want to upgrade to, purchased it from Sears, and put it on card. I took picture of the receipt and sent the PO. They cut me a check for $1039, sent it to us and we applied that to the card and then paid the balance of $300-something off of my checking account. So, we were very happy with the way we were treated, with the quickness that the claim was handled since it was a refrigerator, and we needed a refrigerator.
The reps were great but we just didn’t like that there's a lot of hold time calling out. The technician they sent out was excellent. I recommended him to my mother. AHS also replaced my dishwasher after having it repaired three times. With our furnaces however, it took them a longer time to replace them. It was dead of winter and we were six days without any heat in the house. Other than that, we've been very satisfied with everything that they have followed through. We’ve had excellent service from them. For the most part, they’re very efficient in getting things replaced when they need replaced, and repair it when they needed repaired. The guy I talked to for American Home Shield has been very informative, knowledgeable and going out of the way to get our problem taken care of.

I was out of town on business and when I arrived home, the water heater was not working. I didn’t have any issues submitting a claim online, however, I never received the phone call within 24 hours and when I called the contractor to see when my appointment was going to be scheduled, they said they don’t service water heaters and they already responded back to American Home Shield and they should have assigned a different person. I had to reach out back to AHS and they assigned a different company. I don’t know how that disconnect happened, if it’s a system error, because when I put in my request, I said it was a water heater. The process was easy to do online but I would have rather been able to talk to a person, which I was able to talk to one once I called about the issue. The contractors that AHS sent were great and very professional. They were also very knowledgeable of AC unit problems. They came in on time and from what I described, they knew where to go. They went directly to the problem and cleared it up. They made sure that everything was working before they left. They also cleaned up after finishing their job. We recently had a claim with American Home Shield for our microwave oven and AC. I submitted it over the phone and it went fine. The reps were great and the contractors were all good. However, I had to buy my own microwave and then I had AHS reimburse me, and that was not fun. I would have thought they would just replace it with something that would be equal in cost and equal in what was broken. But they basically made me buy a GE and then send them the documentation with the bill. And then they paid me the amount. So that was kind of crummy, because every bit of my stuff in my kitchen is KitchenAid. It's $200 more but they should have just said, "Okay, no problem. We'll just take care of that one." But they didn't. They insisted GE's the only one they're going to pay for. I didn't really appreciate that whole microwave situation.
I've got a lot of appliances in my house so it could be a necessity to keep AHS as a back-up for problems that I have, and they've done a good job. We have four air conditioning units and one's always got a problem. Over the years, they've done what they should have done in most cases. Other than the microwave thing, it's been worth it.

I filed a claim for my AC recently. I did it online and it was easy. When the contractor came, he told me that I needed to pay an additional $150 for the Freon, which was on top of the $100 copayment I made online. So the entire trip cost me $250, which I could have gotten the same thing a little less. I was a little annoyed because I didn't know about that. The $100 should have come off of that and the $50 would have been paid out of my pocket. Then he said if I called an AC company just for coming out, they would charge me. If I would have called them and they worked, they would not charge me the service fee to come out so I was a little upset.
I called AHS while he was there and I was on hold for more than 30 minutes. He had to leave since he had other appointments so by the time I got somebody on the phone, he was already gone. They explained that it's one of the things that's not covered in the service plan. They only cover a small amount and then I'm responsible for the rest and that my service call fee did not apply towards that.
I was very satisfied with AHS before that experience. I have submitted other claims and I never had an issue, but after that, it was a little disappointing. One, the amount of time it took me to get ahold of someone and two, I was kind of misinformed. The contractor was saying the service fee goes to AHS but AHS said it goes to the contractor. There's a big misunderstanding and I was getting two different stories. The contractor wasn't knowledgeable of the process and there's lack of information provided. That's terribly frustrating. If he had explained it to me, I would not have to call and stay on the phone for 30 minutes. I always did everything online and it's the first time that I called.

They wanted to do it on a Friday, but I wasn’t going to be home so they made the appointment for Saturday between 12:00 and 4:00. At 4:30, I called customer care to find out what was going on because I couldn't get them. He put me on hold and got in contact with somebody and they said they set it incorrectly and I was supposed to be 1:00 to 5:00. But they were late and I didn’t get a call from them saying they were coming or not. Then the guy showed up at 5:00. It took 4 days from the time I submitted the claim until they showed up to repair. I made a phone call to American Home Shield about our washer and they said that they would call me in two days to set up the appointments. Two days later they had nothing on the record so I made the scheduled appointments, then they said someone was gonna call me in two days to talk about it. Two days came and they still did not have it in their records. On my third call, I had to speak to one of the top supervisors and explained my case and then they finally got on it. So the initial customer service and the call center person were very poor.
The contractor was excellent though. He was on time, professional, and clean. He gave us ideas on the cost and advice if we needed a replacement. Then American Home Shield gave us a cash out option and that covered the new washer. And when they said they would send us a reimbursement check in 10 days, it arrived in 10 days. Although they assigned it, it was out of the technician's footprint, so I had to call them again, waited another hour and it happened again the following day too. There was a lot of back and forth and it was a little rough to do that phone call three times. The reps apologized a lot for having to wait and tried to address things very quickly.
The contractor they sent was knowledgeable. They had to call in to let AHS know what the scope of the work was and there was an issue with what was covered. They didn’t have the spring part covered even though within the contract, it said that the springs were covered. There was a lot of back and forth with the American Home Shield representative who wasn’t too compliant with what the contract was saying. The AHS reps have been good except for the fact that they don’t understand that I have three kids and I'm paying $60 something a month, so they should've expedited that washing machine being sent to my house. He came out an additional two more times and again, the issue was not resolved. I then requested to get another level and they sent out a different company. They replaced a few components within the refrigerator but unfortunately, it just kept kicking. They would fix one issue then something else goes wrong and finally, it stopped freezing. It was a mess. My refrigerator was a Kenmore and I had it for a few years and they ended up replacing the refrigerator altogether.
The total number of times that people visited was three times for each contractor. As soon as we thought everything would’ve been perfect, the original part that was fixed in the very beginning blew again. So I think that the refrigerator is a crappy appliance. I’ve used American Home Shield excessively. I’ve had them for a long time and when things come up, they are very timely and corrected the situation. They’ve always held up to their agreement but when I’m trying to file a service request, their hold time is excessive. Typically, I’m on hold for at least 30 minutes and that can be frustrating. I think it's a staffing issue.

On Friday, August 11th, I completed a service request online for a leaking hot water heater tank. I then tried to call and stayed on the phone for 1:10 without ever connecting to anyone. When I checked online, it stated my assignment was pending.
On Monday, August 14th, after having not received a call or update, I reached back out to American Home Shield. I waited on the phone for 1:03 minutes with no one ever connecting. I called the billing department and she gave the excuse that they've been extremely busy. I called again this morning, Tuesday, August 15th at 8:30am. I waited for 30 minutes for someone to answer the phone only to tell me that someone was "currently working on my profile," that she couldn't get into my profile, but that I should have this resolved today. I waited until 4:20pm today and had not gotten any update on my issue. I called again and waited for 43 minutes with no answer.
I then called Billing to complain and to find out if my payments were not made because I was being treated as if I have not paid for this warranty. Finally, this young lady in Billing, Sabrina, has tried to resolve this. She now tells me they can't get a service rep in my area. I have "authorization" to seek an outside company who then has to give me a quote, call them back to get authorization to complete the work, and after I pay the company to do the work, wait an additional 10-14 days to get my money back. No showers work inside of home as well and 2 days later on a Sunday they send a Plumber who takes a picture of broken water heater, and leaves because American Home Shield has to approve fix. Still not showers in home for family. American Home Shield customer service was very poor and they decided not to fix problem based on analysis from plumber claims it was a detectable pre-existing problem.
This plumber has never previously been in the home prior and would have no knowledge if it was or not. I have lived in home with water heater working great until it broke. It was a problem that was undetectable as I had a home inspection that was done prior to prove. Now I will need to file a Lawsuit to cover costs as I had to pay $500 to have it fixed as I was not going to let them string it out any longer and have my family suffer. They still will not provide me with any report from the plumber as to what was said and they don't provide any e-mail contact or any way to reach someone to address.

Set an "AFFORDABLE" HVAC tech out to fix A/C. I had turned it off. I turned it on and it started working. His report said (he did not let me read it or sign it) 1. Unit had sunken into ground... Truth it was at proper ground level, dirt had built up because of three days of rain... Clear in 5 minutes. 2. Yellow Jacket nest in condenser... On door of condenser, sprayed and killed by me. 3. Contacts covered with spiders and webs... A lie, there were cobwebs and dust no spiders, cleaned in one minute. He left. 10 minutes later the unit stopped working again. I called for a return. 3 1/2 hours later he comes back.
Say I know what it is, it's the contacts but American Home Shield won't cover it because of the spiders. I said there were no spiders. He took the unit apart and said I have to charge you for fixing it, the contacts are bad. I said no, asked him to leave and I was going to call someone else. He got pissed and refused to put the unit back together. I called a "THOMPSON" HVAC tech. He was there within a half hour. Did some tests and said it was the solenoid. I told him what happened, he said a good tech would have seen it because it was blown and swollen. He check the contacts and they were fine.
American Home Shield and "AFFORDABLE" was a scam just to get extra money for the call. The tech never ran a test and was very unfriendly and rude. I have requested my money back because they only got paid 4 days ago and will reject the $100 service fee. It was a complete farce. The solenoid worked and the house finally dropped from 87 degrees to 72 overnight.

We purchased a home warranty with American Home Shield. Our air conditioning wasn't cooling our home, we set the temp to 77 and it's 88 in the home. To make a very long story short, I'll put in bullet points. 1: 7 visits by technicians from two companies (rude and unprofessional) didn't fix the problem. 2: Sucker... Was talked into spending $1800 for additional insulation, because they said that was the issue. 3: Average of at least 1 hour on hold every time you call American Home Shield... adding it up, I've wasted days on hold with them. 4: Tech shows up at 9:15 at night, wasn't supposed to be there. 5: Manager of one company stated they will never say the AC needs replaced, but if we pay them directly they'll be more than happy to replace the unit.

There was a problem with our air conditioning unit and the contractor took six trips out trying to repair it. They were replacing different parts each time and I had been asking about replacing the whole thing but they had to go through the whole process. They were blaming American Home Shield and American Home Shield was blaming them. There was a back and forth and that's why it took so long.
When they came the first time, they found the bad part. They replaced and fixed it and it was working when they left until an hour later when it quit and started having the same problem with warm air again so I called them back. They found another part that was bad, replaced it and it was working but it only worked for a day and I had to call them back again. One time it worked a week, but every time they fixed something, it worked for a short time, and then the problem happens again.
Then I got in touch with the local representative. It was on a Friday and he was leaving for the weekend but I wasn't able to make a decision to get cash in lieu until I've talked to another contractor. Then, on Monday, July 24th, I called him back and told him I wanted cash in lieu. He told me it would get here in ten days and the contractor is hoping it gets here too because he's waiting to be paid. I still haven't got the cash.
It was quite frustrating to have to go through such an ordeal to get it replaced. In my mind, a home warranty is not just to repair things. It's repair or replace. However, AHS was saying it runs before the contractors leave so AHS couldn't replace it but the contractors were saying that if it were up to them, they would replace it. So there ought to be some method built into their system that lets them replace it more easily if that seems to be what the contractor believes would be best.

We have had air conditioning problems as our house has not been cooling properly for the past 3 summers. Every year we file claims through AHS and have spent countless amounts of money to refill our unit with freon. This July, AHS was contacted to have a HVAC contractor assess the same problem that we have been experiencing the last 3 summers (home not cooling properly, my wife and I assumed that we needed to add Freon to the unit again). The contractor that came out to our home ran multiple checks, reporting that we should not have to add Freon to our unit every summer and assessed for a leak. The contractor was able to find that the evaporator coil was leaking and it needed to be replaced.
The contractor was unable to find a compatible evaporator coil that matched our outside unit and filed a claim through AHS that recommended replacing the evaporator coil and the outside condensing unit. I was told by AHS that they would only pay to replace the evaporator coil and we would have pay to replace the outside unit (over $3,000).
Even though the outside unit had to be replaced due to the malfunction of the inside evaporating coil AHS refused to cover the replacement cost. When asked for another contractor to come out in order to get a second opinion, AHS said that they could not do it as the initial HVAC company was contracted for the work. AHS claimed that they are able to do this because this situation is not covered under our contract as it is required by state law that the evaporator coil matches the condensing unit but they were not able to tell me the code number that justifies their claim.
Essentially we were not able to have our AC unit replaced under our home warranty, even though we have been customers ever since purchasing our home in 2014. Additionally, we have spent money every year having Freon added to our system by AHS contractors as they have never been able to identify the underlying problem. I am very disappointed in their service as I feel the cost of the AC replacement should have been covered by the company.

On 7/26, I had a tech come out to check my A/C unit. It was running, however, there was a large amount of cold air being blown outside the unit, outside the house. The tech determined that it was a duct issue, took photos and contacted his boss. The service company immediately asked for repair authorization from AHS. AHS has failed to respond to them (current date 8/14). I called AHS, put on hold for 20 minutes, then the agent hung up on me without speaking to me. I, immediately called back, informed that I would be put on hold for over an hour.
I hung up and started sending AHS messages through twitter. They always thanked me for my concern but never followed up. Today, another promise of a follow-up, today, another broken promise coming from AHS. It is hot in AR and AHS doesn't seem to care about customers. I can't seem to get their attention. But they're more than happy to take my monthly payment. I definitely could use some help.

Contractor assigned to us ripped us off to the tune of $3000 in additional cost because, the contractor tells us AHS provides the AC unit. We have to do upgrades to make it fit. AHS would not pay for a unit that fit properly because they buy train car loads of units cheap and that's what you get. 4 houses and dropping them all from this rip off company.

We've had American Home Shield on our home in California for the last 16 years and we never had any issues with them. But we moved to Alabama and it’s been a challenge getting reputable people out. When my husband tried to submit a claim online, they weren’t accepting our account number so he ended up having to call them. Our most recent one was for the washer. It took my husband three calls to get a hold of a live person. When the order was put in, we told them that we had water that was causing damage to the floor but they told him that the claim was just for the repair. So, when I called the contracted company, they stated that they were told it was just a repair. When they got to it, I said, "I got water damage happening to my walls and everything else. How can this just be a regular repair?" We had to call American Home Shield back and tell them that it was doing damage to our floor for them to get somebody else.
Also, the gentleman who came was very pleasant but his company could not get the parts. It took two months for them to get the parts in and get the washer repaired. They got the parts twice but both times, those weren't the problematic parts. Finally, they got the board in but he said it wasn’t any good. So, they had to reorder another board. The repair only lasted for a month and I got rid of the washer. I now have a brand-new washer. Apart from the Alabama experience, I recommend American Home Shield but it would be nice if they make sure that they have people that understand English. Sometimes, my husband would get someone who didn’t understand what he was asking.

We love American Home Shield. It's helped us several times in pricey stuff. I'm legally blind and it was very easy submitting a claim over the phone. However, it takes forever to get them on the phone. They are so busy that the phone just rings and then they would put you on hold for a long time, but their reps are very polite and professional. All the contractors they've sent have been very professional too. Everything's wonderful.
I had a refrigerator that was dead and they couldn't find the parts, so they told us to go ahead and get a fridge and they'll give us a replacement amount for that particular one, so that was great. Then recently I file for an electric issue. AHS sent a contractor out who identified the problem. I had too much on one circuit so I needed separate circuits for the things in the garage. The contractor worked up a price for me to do it and unfortunately, the repair wasn't on my coverage with AHS but at least I know what's going on and I can repair it properly. AHS is definitely worth using and keeping on contract because they can save us so much in the long run.

I've talked to American Home Shield numerous times and the wait has been unbelievable in the first time I called them. Sometimes I have to wait 35 minutes and that's very bad customer service because we pay a yearly fee for that. That's been going on for five months and it's not getting corrected. They could do better on customer service in answering their phones.
Our recent claim was to have a new evaporator-cooler installed, which was finally done last week. The first company that came out from another town only put some Freon in there and the Freon leaked. The guy should have checked the unit but he never did and that's again very bad customer service. I told AHS about them and had another company come out. The second company came out and wanted to charge me for the Freon again. I didn't want to do that since I've just had it put in three weeks ago, so they waived the Freon, gave me a new unit, lowered the price on the Freon and didn't charge me for that. They came out twice and were very helpful. The guy was a hardworker, wonderful, and did his job. I'm very happy with the second company and I would ask them to come out again.
But then, 2 days ago, I noticed that the ice came up the pipes in the basement. I knocked the ice off that time and it's worse today than it was before. I don't know what's causing that ice to go up the pipe and that happened to us fifteen years ago in our other house where it had gone all the way into the attic and up to the whole entire house. Also, the hotter the weather gets, the worse the ice gets. So I have to get the problem fixed immediately and I'm ready to call AHS again.

In terms of getting something done, I previously felt good about American Home Shield. But now I'm dissatisfied that they haven't handled my recent claim on my AC and heating unit properly. When the appliance first started acting up, there were a number of incidents that were crazy and inhibited things from moving forward to an upgrade to a new unit. But based on my history of dealing with American Home Shield with this AC and heating system, the unit was completely worn out and shut. It came to a point wherein I wished to get the old unit changed out to a new one. But the installation of the new AC and the heating unit has been a little up and down. For the most part, it went back and forth for about a month and it’s hard on people at this time of year to be dealing with the AC problem.
Their reps were courteous and knowledgeable and I didn't have to ask for supervision to discuss my claim. But I was getting piecemealed my out-of-pocket-expenses and the technicians tell me one thing then I find out that it’s not the case. It's been a a very agonizing process and I told the contractor that the way my claim is being handled was unsatisfactory. It's also being said that I need to all of a sudden shoulder something to get the AC working and that’s craziness and totally unprofessional. I'm dealing with Brian on this last issue and I'm supposed to get a callback from a Melissa in authorization to tell me what they’ve come up with in resolving this last hurdle to get my AC on and working. All in all, the install for the new unit came out okay and it's coming to a closure. However, what I had to go through brought down my whole feelings about AHS. The effort it took and their efficiency now seemed to not be in line with what I experienced before.

I've been with American Home Shield for quite a few years in my other two homes before this one and I never had a problem. I like doing business with them. But when I call in, they’re busy. I could be hanging on the line for 45 minutes and that’s not good, so they should have a way to call back. Hoping to find a cheaper home warranty, I shopped for a company like AHS. When we first moved in December, this other company said that they had the best ratings and it looked like they were on the internet and that they're a great company to do business with, and we went with them.
We were in the house for 60 days and the ice maker went out. I had the ice maker covered with their protection so they can get somebody to come and service it. But they said, “You just get it fixed and send us the bill. We’ll refund it to you.” I said, "I've never had to do it like that before." I cancelled with Select Home Care and went back with AHS. The service of AHS costs more money as far as the deductible, but it has worked out fine.
Recently, we had a central air conditioner problem and I called AHS to submit a claim. But I had to wait a long time for somebody to answer my call and I should have done it online. The contractor couldn’t come for four or five days, so I called AHS back and said, “Hey, I’m a heart patient. I need somebody to come quicker if you could get somebody.” So they found somebody else and the contractor came, and it was a wonderful experience. The guy that came for the vendor was out-of-sight. He checked and double-checked to make sure that the appliance was fixed like it should be, and it’s been fine ever since.

We had my air conditioning cleaned through American Home Shield and submitting the claim online was relatively easy. Their website was very simple. There were 2 appointments and the contractors who were sent out were exceptional, took care of the problem, and I haven't had an issue since. Everything has been good.

Once an appointment is lined up with AHS, the contractor texts the client when they’re on their way, which is what they did when we had an air conditioning claim. They texted my husband and said that they would be there 24 minutes later. My husband immediately texted back saying that he was about 40 to 44 minutes out and asked them to please wait. It was a Friday at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and the guy did not wait. My husband stood there and waited, not realizing that there was a note on the door. It’s a rental property so our neighbor had seen the guy show up and come and go.
So when my husband realized that the guy had come over already and not waited, he called the company immediately but it was after they had closed already for the day and he came home. We were very angry and that company did not call back until six days later to reschedule even though my husband left multiple messages on Friday and the following Monday. I contacted their reps for American Home Shield who was on vacation but her office called and scheduled us with a different company.
The second company came and did a good job. They gave us a timeframe and my husband waited. The guy was two hours late but he did show up. It was dark so he said he couldn’t do much at the time so he had to come back. Supposedly he was going to put Freon in but we didn’t want that. It would feel like a band-aid to us because we already had put Freon in. So the guy was kind enough to come back and check again. He was willing to not band-aid the problem, replace a piece and now the problem is resolved. It took three visits for my husband to get this claim done, with two different companies, so I was not satisfied with American Home Shield. The hard part is, I’m a realtor and my company is affiliated with them so I have to sell and put them in my offers.
I hate to hear that you've had less than satisfactory experience with AHS. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible.

I'm thinking about dropping American Home Shield but not because of them. AHS provides excellent service. Every time I call, a technician is sent out in a timely fashion and I either get a text and a phone call. However, my house was built in 2003 and every time a tech comes here, I am told my stuff is not up to code. I've already paid a $75 service call and now I still got to pay out more money to get stuff done. That's the purpose of me having a warranty. The same thing happened with my hot water tank and air conditioning unit. The AC had to be brought up to code and there's an additional $700 expense for me. For the hot water tank, I was given a $1000 quote that I would have to pay in addition to what AHS would pay.
Then I found another company that had done some work for me before who was licensed and bonded as well, and they did the job. I wish I would’ve used them because I would have gotten my hot water tank put in a lot sooner. But they were not a vendor. AHS did pay me $400 for the hot water tank, so at least I did get some money back. It should be in the lingo about this code stuff before people sign up. For the money that I'm spending monthly on the warranty, I could just be putting it in a savings account so when I need stuff done, that’ll be my money. I'm frustrated.

One morning, my refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling but we were actually leaving on vacation and I have the second refrigerator in the basement so I emptied everything out of the refrigerator. I went online and submitted my service request to AHS before we left, and the people who were supposed to service it called me on my cellphone while we were on the road. They could have come that Monday, however we were going to be out of town so I scheduled it for the following Monday and my husband was here. They came and determined that the repair needed a part. They ordered a part, which got in on Wednesday, but they couldn't come put the part in until the following Tuesday. Everything up until the day that they got the part was great. But why did I have to wait a week to get it to put in? But that was the only thing they could do. Anyway then they had fixed it.
I have a digital thing and the refrigerator temperature started going up again last week. I thought that maybe the door was left open so I made sure everything was tight. I went back in half hour and the refrigerator had cooled a little bit but then the freezer temperature was way up so I thought it was going bad again. I immediately called the service people thinking it was under warranty since they were just here. But they said I had to call American Home Shield and they would do a follow-up. However, overnight, the fridge stabilized so I canceled that service call. I called the service people but they said I also had to call AHS to cancel. I had never canceled an appointment online so I actually called and was on hold for 45 minutes just to say I didn't need the claim.
The contractors they've sent out have generally been good. They're very good at responding generally to come out and see what the problem is. The delay is if they need a part. If they're ordering in a part and the part will be in in two days, they should put me on schedule before the part comes in instead of making me wait until the part comes in.
I also had the most horrendous experience in the end of last year and almost cancelled my American Home Shield. The week after Christmas my washing machine died so I called. They sent a company out that had been out here before and I liked those people. It was the week between Christmas and New Year, but they came out within the first few days and said the problem was the motor. They ordered a part which came in the next week. They came out and put the motor in, but then said the control board wasn't working and they couldn't tell before, so they had to order that part. I had been out of washer for two weeks and at that point and I asked if there was another way they could expedite the part. They said they had no control over that. So I got on the phone again and had to wait 45 minutes to get somebody at AHS to try and expedite the part. But at the very end of the day, they wouldn't help me.
When they got the part, they came out but they either ordered the wrong part or AHS sent the wrong part. I don't know who it was but they should've been able to expedite the part, but again, they wouldn't and that was another three days. Finally, the third time the guy came out with the part but he said the washer is shot and I needed a new one. Again, that's what American Home Shield is for so they reimbursed me the money for the washer but I literally was out of a washing machine for a month and a half.
That was an unreasonable amount of time to be without something and they should have made accommodations for that situation only. When I told the story, my neighbors couldn't believe I was dealing with that. But I had wonderful neighbors who would love me to come do my laundry at their homes. They gave me keys to their houses when they were not here so I was literally hauling my laundry through the neighborhood. To me, it wasn't the fault of the guy who came out 'cause you can't tell certain things are wrong when so many things were wrong with it.
The idea of having to call AHS to talk to them about anything is really bad and that's over the years. I've been a customer for nine years. You don't have to do that often, but when you do, you're usually at a point where you don't want to be waiting an hour and a half and you're already probably angry about something else. The first time, I asked if they had a record that I'd been holding for an hour and 20 minutes. The rep said yes, but they had a very bad snowstorm and a lot of people didn't come in. When it was all said and done, I was going to call them, cancel and really rub some of that. But once I had my washing machine back, I let it go. That was by far the worst, but up until then, I hadn't really had a very bad experience. All in all, I've been a satisfied customer.

I’ve had four things replaced through AHS in three months. Everyone was polite but they don’t call me back, ask me any questions or give me any details about my claims. When my air conditioner went out, nobody told me that it had been called in, how long it would take for the parts to come once it was called in, what unit I was getting or if I could upgrade. They think that I should know these things but I don’t. I only knew about that when the item got here. And the reason that it finally got here was that I called and told them that it's been 10 days already. I asked them if my unit arrived and they said it did. They said they’d call the service provider and see if it was at their shop. But the shop people didn’t respond for three more days so I called AHS again. Then the shop people called to ask if they could come and it was fine with me because I work from home and I didn’t go out that day.
I also had my heating unit go down in February and nobody called me or told me I had a space heater. So I sat and froze in the middle of winter in Minnesota with no space heater. Nobody told me I had an allowance to go get one at the Home Depot or that if AHS would be sending me one it was going to take 10 days to two weeks. There has got to be some better system for AHS to know how many days it will take for a part or unit to arrive or if the techs have called me up here. AHS could also have those guys get the parts themselves and be reimbursed or at least make it possible in inclement weather states like where I live in because to ship something from the farthest of the country is absolutely ridiculous. There’s no reason for that especially in December when it’s freezing and I have no furnace.
Both my water heater and air conditioner went out the same day within each other. But I paid for two service calls and had different guys to work on them because I knew how long it will take to get a guy that could do both and I wasn’t going to wait or risk that. Two extra days might have taken me to go into a hot front and not having air conditioning. Also, my biggest fear was having the two guys work over each other because the two appliances were right next to each other, but I didn't have to worry about that. The people that came for the water heater carried the unit right to my house and put it in. They came right away and got it done. It was part of the reason I chose them, I didn’t have to wait and they didn’t have to order their parts. That was the best and I don’t know why it was different with that contractor.
When somebody asks about home warranty companies, I praise AHS. Also, every person I talked to that’s come here always say AHS is the best they've worked with even though there are stuff and hoops they have to jump through. They told me to stay with the one I have, so I’ll stay with AHS. I’d recommend them to a friend but the waiting part in inclement weather could be detrimental if somebody had small children or pets.

I submit claims through the automated system. I call their 800 number and doing it through the phone and using the voice recognition have always been good for me. After I gave the information needed, they would route me to this particular company and give me the name and the number of the company. They would also tell me that the company will contact me within 24 hours. And it’s done. But the website is useless to me because it’s not user-friendly.
The reps from AHS were nice people. However, since AHS is a large company, it’s hard to get anything done. They’re trying their best, but the problem is that they have small, independent contractors that work for them. For example, the people that did the work for me did a good job, but I ended up having to pay the service fee directly through them, not through the actual service with my renter. It’s not a big deal, though. But I think that they’re offering to not make people pay the service call but still have to work on. In my case, it was $350.
For the most part, the contractors are good. They’re prompt, and very professional and courteous as well. They call back and sometimes they call back within an hour. It depends on how small and how important my business is to that contractor. The contractors are willing to help and even go the extra mile. They clean up after they finish the job too. The only complaint I have is the price. It’s a little steep. I had my air conditioner done for $425 and that’s not counting the active contract that I had to pay every month. But AHS is efficient and satisfactory. It’s nice to have them because I don’t have to go looking for someone to do the work. All I have to do is make one phone call and AHS will take care of it.

American Home Shield was prompt and courteous, and they showed professional service. When my central AC stopped working I called AHS and they gave me the name of the vendor that would contact me. The process took five minutes and the vendor was there the next day. He was competent and his work was excellent. AHS got the job done.

I purchased a home warranty through these folks Back in June. In July I had my main A/C unit stop working. It took a couple of days after contacting them online to get a company which is over 40 miles away, to come and find my problem. I never received exactly what they were gonna do till days later and from my understanding, they are asking the repair company to replace my coil system and refrigerant that is not meant for my system. I was also told it would cost too much more to replace the entire unit.
I have tried multiple times to contact via phone and the hold time has never been less than 30 minutes which eventually turns into over an hour before I hang up due to my hours at work. I was finally able to get someone to chat with me online and she was suppose to have someone contact me via telephone within 24 business hours. That was 5 days ago. If you want my opinion, I would RUN from this company. They overpromise and underdeliver. I give this company only 1 star.
UPDATED ON 08/17/2017: Today at 12:00pm. Life without A/C in the South. It appears that AHS does not mind letting their CONTRACT holders go without A/C for weeks and apparently months on end. It is closing in on a full month without A/C. I contacted AHS and it took a couple of days to get someone to come and diagnose my problem. It appears we have a leak in our inside air handler coils. THAT IS IT. Once they told AHS what was wrong, they authorized the repair service to replace coils and refrigerant that IS NOT compatible with my unit. AHS has been asked as well as the repair company to produce an itemized repair order weeks ago which they have not given. What's funny is even the repair company will not contact us now. I have called and held many hours to get AHS on the phone to see if we can get this work order agreed on and fixed.
Finally The 14th of August, I was finally able to get them on the phone after holding for 1hr and 10 minutes. This was a short call as the young lady put me back on hold to look at the repair order (I was told she wasn't transferring me to another department) but it appears that she did transfer me and another 45 minutes on hold and they answered again only to agree with my response of the repair being incorrect and that they would get back with me the next day and correct the repair and schedule it. They never called to my surprise (NOT REALLY, I EXPECTED THIS BY NOW).
I then went online and submitted a few reviews and immediately they responded and said their Media Response team would like to help me get this resolved. That was all for show. Once I answered their response, they said someone would contact me shortly. Now I am not sure what their definition of shortly is but I can assure you that MY IDEA is NOT 3 or 4 days later. But it has been that long and no return call from the company! NONE from ANYONE including their CUSTOMER ADVOCATES< MEDIA RESPONSE< AHS< NOBODY. If there are any ATTORNEYS out there that would like to see the time logged calls, and the transcripts of the emails, text, and facebook messenger, I believe this is a CLEAR BREACH OF CONTRACT and this has been the worst experience I have ever had. RUN not walk from this company.

I have been an AHS customer for 10+ years. We purchased our warranty plan when the house was newly developed and we hadn't yet created a complete list of reputable contacts to handle the problems experienced with home ownership. For years, we received good response from AHS to our service requests and the vendors dispatched were timely and equipped to handle the issue. However, over the past couple of years we have seen a degradation of service and have been increasingly displeased and frustrated at AHS. We have experienced lack of organization, timeliness and follow through in order to address basic service calls when dealing with the assigned contractors. Most recently when we experienced a major plumbing issue and contacted AHS, we NEVER received a contact from either AHS or the assigned plumbing company over a 24 hour period.
Because we had an active leak - we had no choice but to go outside the network and contact a local company and they dispatched a plumber within the hour. AHS failed us. This recent issue not the only negative experience, but don't have the space to run them all down. So, my words of caution - before you enter into a contract with AHS, evaluate if you have the resources and contacts to manage yourself. They have grown too large to handle the demand so both the customer and often the contractors that they contract with are impacted by their organizational challenges. We will be reevaluating our contract at the end of this cycle. They are no longer a “value” to us and need some serious restructuring and improvement.
Cindy,

1992 Whirlpool Refrigerator Compressor: My claim for refrigerator repair or replacement was denied, because AHS stated that the compressor could not have failed during my contract period, but had been failing for a long period of time. I purchased the refrigerator new in 1992 and in the original home, but AHS implied that I had purchased a broken down refrigerator, and that I should have visually inspected the compressor and the refrigerator to determine that it was no good. I took out the insurance because some of my appliances are old, but under AHS criteria, I cannot expect to use their insurance. I have canceled the policy.

Had a very awful experience. When you call them to buy a product, they answer your call under a minute. Once you buy the product and call for customer service, I was on call for over 30 minutes before they answered to tell me that they cannot accommodate my request. I had an issue with the refrigerator for which they set me up with a company who had terrible reviews. I asked them I do not want to get serviced by this company but they said that's all they can do. After reading the reviews, I knew before that my appliance is not going to get fixed and my deductible will go down the drain. After the service, same happened!! Will advise not buying warranty through them.

We have been with AHS since 2008. Initially it was a completely satisfactory relationship- we had occasional need for a repair. We called them, they sent out a repair person, all was good. Over the past several years, we have seen deterioration in their level of service, to the point that we will not be renewing. They demonstrate no respect for their customers' time or inconvenience.
This morning I was on hold for 1.5 hours (!), to straighten out a problem of their own making. They were told by the repair shop 3 days ago that parts are not available (we have talked to them twice), but AHS does not acknowledge this, blaming the repair tech for not informing them. When I insisted on proceeding to replacement of the appliance, the rep made believe that she could not hear me (I could hear her fine, I was on a landline, not cell phone) and then disconnected me. She made no attempt to call me back. I'm now on hold for another 40 minutes as I type this. If you value your time, look elsewhere.

Pity that as returning after many years as customer, AHS is not even the shadow of what used to be. I do blame the leadership for allowing the quality of the business, and poor knowledge of its associates go to the negative scale as far customer expectations is concern!!

I renewed my contract in October 2016 with AHS after the warranty that was purchased by the homeowner's expired and I've received terrible customer service as well as results from service orders which were placed. My most recent experience 8/10/17, was when I needed a plumber to check on 2 toilets that continued to run, and my kitchen sink was leaking. The initial company which was dispatched had a 2 day wait before they could get to me. Once they finally arrived, the gentleman did not check under my kitchen sink, he simply stated you need a new faucet. I questioned this as he never got under the sink to see why it was leaking.
I then took him to the 2 toilets that were running constantly and he looked and said that the guts would have to be replaced inside both. He advised me that he did not have the new faucet and would just come back to do the service order once it came in. I questioned again why would we wait to fix the toilets? You are here now and the water is constantly running causing my bill to go up. At that point he replaced the inside of the toilets, he asked where the PRV was located and I advised him that I was not sure. He went to the street to locate it, and returned indicating that he could not locate it and could install one due to mine reading higher than required. He went on to say that would be approximately $700.00, he contacted AHS to advise of this and was told that they would not cover either item (sink nor toilets) because of escalated pressure.
I ended up having to pay $150.00 to the company for the toilets as he had already replaced the items and it was no longer running. I called AHS to advise of the horrible customer service and spoke with a young lady named Tiffany in authorizations (she was the most friendly and helpful representative I've ever spoke with since having service with the company since Oct 2015), she scheduled a second opinion due to the issues which I had encountered with the first plumber. The new company which was dispatched was very helpful, and knowledgeable (Drain Go). The gentleman surveyed my sink to see why it was leaking and discovered that there piping which was loose due to general wear and tear and it needed to be tighten to solve the problem.
Now after paying the first company a 75.00 service fee for a poor service assessment, as well as 150.00 for services which should have been covered under my contract, I'm having to go back and forth with AHS to refund my money given that the second opinion advised that one had nothing to do with the other. The wait times are horrible just to get a person on the phone with AHS and consist of wait time of at least 45 mins to an hour!!! This is the 3 issue I've had in the last 8 months with AHS. I requested my contract be cancelled and it was never done and the auto debit continued to come out of my account. It's like AHS cannot get anything do correctly!!!

As an AHS customer you should expect to: be on hold for 45 mins to an hour regardless of when you call, never receive a call back when they tell you they will, receive below quality work from the companies they contract with to repair your appliances, pay upfront for services you have not received and that sometimes doesn't happen, be given the run around for a week to a month about major issues, be told about fine print that does not exist in your contract.

This is my first time using AHS, I live in Las Vegas and the temperature has been over 100 deg for 2 months. My AC went out on Wednesday. I requested service online. Initially I was paired with a company that wouldn't be able to service my until the following Monday. I called the 800 # and requested an alternative vendor. AHS then referred me to a second vendor that scheduled an appointment on the weekend (Ice Cube Air) No extra charges for weekend hours! The guys arrived on time, fixed my broken fan motor and my house was cool within 30 min! Great customer service all around. Plus it's great to pay the deductible directly to AHS incase there are issues with the vendor.

Submitting the claims went pretty smoothly but there were discrepancies between what I reported and the work order of the contractor. The communication does not seem to be available and I found out that the AHS rep I talked to was not listening to me. I told him something but he told the vendor another thing. So when one of the vendors came, they said there was a clog and they did not change the issue at the insurance company. But after the repairs, everything was okay.

American Home Shield gives excellent service. I needed a plumbing job at one of my rental properties. So I submitted my claim online then I scheduled the job, and told them what the issue was. They had the plumbing company notify me and I gave them the details. It was a quick and good experience. For plumbing job, it normally takes 1 to 2 days after speaking to AHS for the repair crew to show up. In my recent claim, both tubs were slow draining. So they had to remove the piping from both tubs and drain them. Then they had to clear and reassemble the piping. The job isn’t completed yet, but it’s good work. Overall, I’ve had good service from AHS. I’ve had them fix my air-conditioner before. And I don’t recall ever having an issue with AHS or the vendor that they sent out. If there are any issues, they’ve been quick to resolve them. I’m satisfied with them.

I’ve had American now for 11 years and I’ve had some bad experiences, but for the most part, they’ve been good. I have recommended them, but my whole experience in submitting a claim with AHS for a bunch of appliances was horrible. I grouped together a claim for a stove top, refrigerator, garage door opener, and water heaters into a single one. AHS charged a fee for every item. My experience with the garage door opener and water heaters was excellent. It was fine with the refrigerator but the stovetop is still ongoing.
It took them a while to determine that the stove top couldn’t be fixed. The contractor was very difficult to work and communicate with. I couldn’t get him to call me back and it took him days to call me to schedule. I couldn’t get through to a real person. When I call him, I get voicemail and they never call back. It’s bad that I had them put on my “never send again” list. Stove tops are a little different now and it’s my responsibility to make sure that what I get fits my countertop. Now, everything is off by about an inch and I’m trying to find someone that can do modifications to a granite countertop.
This experience was really bad. The appliance was shipped out and if I keep it over 30 days, then they’re not going to take it back. Also, it’s difficult to find somebody to cut granite. The installers that American Home Shield used don’t do any modifications. They said, “This won’t fit. Nothing we can do.” When I do get it cut, AHS won’t pay the cutters to install my stove top. I have to call another installer. This has really been a nightmare.

I've had several claims with American Home Shield and they hold true to their word. If they can't fix the problem, they will replace the thing being repaired. They have replaced a couple of items for me without any issues. But my last claim with them and which was regarding an AC unit has not been a very pleasant experience. The process of submitting the claim online was simple but I've been going back and forth trying to communicate with them to discuss how to move forward and get the claim resolved.
The customer service rep has been ridiculous too. I've been calling for two weeks and waited on the line for more than two hours. I've had an opportunity to speak about the same issue with three different customer service reps and two of the reps were very pleasant while the other one didn’t satisfy what I was trying to discuss and wasn’t listening to my concerns. This last claim was really rough and the repair turnaround time was limited. I've been dealing with this issue for a month now and our unit isn't repaired yet. But my experience with AHS has been good for the most part. But the aspect where they send contractors out especially when dealing with AC issues needs to be improved drastically.

I had a dryer go out and American Home Shield dispatched Sears repair services to work on it and I had an absolutely terrible experience. They came out on three separate occasions and each technician who came told me the same thing. They stayed for 20 minutes and said there was a problem with my thermostat on my dryer. They said it's fixed but ultimately that was not the problem.
When the second guy came out I told him point blank that the first guy who came out here told me the same thing and the thing worked for a total of five minutes after he left. He said he would guarantee that it was going to get fixed that time, then he got it going, jumped in his car and left. Once again, five minutes after he left, it was gone. When the third person came out, again, I told him that they had sent two people out before but the thing was not working. Once again, the only thing he did was to place that same part that the first two people did and left it.
I left work for the visits and it cost me three days because I had to wait for all these people. At least they showed up on a time frame that they said they were going to show up in but their repair services were terrible. Not only was the diagnosis incorrect, they saw no reason to correct that diagnosis on three separate occasions. After that third time, I told American Home Shield not to send Sears out again and to send somebody else. I was tired of messing with them and they weren't doing anything right. I was very dissatisfied with Sears and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.
They wound up sending me another technician from a totally different company. He told me he saw what the problem was and that he had to order some parts. A week and a half later, he came back with a lot of parts and replaced everything in my dryer and there hasn't been a problem since. Why couldn't Sears have done that to begin with? The claim took over a month and a half. Once you turn in a claim, American Home Shield tells you they would have somebody get back to you within 48 hours, and not necessarily book an appointment to come to see you in 48 hours. Somebody will call you 48 hours later to tell you they'll be out some time in the next week. Plus the time that I spent wasted on going to the laundromat, I could have just bought another dryer.

We had a problem with our air conditioning unit which is in the attic. Condensation was forming into that drip pan and it overflowed. So, we called it in and American Home Shield sent out a technician who looked at it and claimed that he fixed it. And for a couple of days, everything was fine and then, about a month later, the same problem occurred again. The problem manifested itself by water stains on the ceiling in the room beneath where that air conditioning unit is. So, we called them again. And the second technician came out, found the problem that the first guy had not fixed and repaired it. And since that time, the problem has been fine. But they've charged us two service calls.
We're unhappy with the fact that we had to pay for two service calls because the first guy didn't fix it right. Then the second guy got the job done, but he can only come after business hours. So, we're a little bit inconvenienced by the whole thing. Plus, it was difficult to get through to get our claims. It’s pretty terrible because when I call I had to sit on the phone for an hour waiting for somebody to take it. But once it gets through, it's okay.

I’m glad to have AHS in case something should break down. Some years back, my washing machine conked out on me and it was a little difficult for me to have it repaired. It was a 20-year-old machine and American Home Shield spent enough money on it. Instead of just replacing it, they kept adding parts to it, then finally, they ended up replacing it. Another time, they also replaced my air conditioner and that would’ve cost quite a bit of money out of pocket if I haven't had AHS. I also had a claim on it about a resistor. The contractor took the old one out and put the new one in. Recently, I also filed a claim for my air conditioner over the phone. It was easy and the rep was cordial. The contractor they sent was quick and repaired the air conditioner in just a few minutes. He was professional and courteous. After the repair, the AC is back to normal.
