I had a problem with my shower where one of the faucets had broken off and it was stuck. I called American Home Shield and they sent the plumber over. He needed to get some parts and he took care of all of that. It took a while for the faucet to be fixed but he did the job completely once the parts came. Now, we have no issues with the faucet since it was fixed. Having AHS has been worth it so far. We pay a monthly premium but we’ve had a few issues with the house recently and it really helps us out.

My hot water heater went out and American Home Shield was quick to get a change approved and got the contractor out the next day. They were really fast and on top of it. They were able to change it out in two hours. After the repair, the water heater has been working great. I'm really happy with American Home Shield's service.

It was my first claim with American Home Shield. I called on July 10th for my AC unit and I thought everything was okay and then we went to the next step. They said the part would be ordered and it would be in on the 17th but no one showed up on that day. When I finally got ahold of somebody, they told me that they forgot to order the part. I told them, “I'm in the trucking industry. I can have one of my trucks stop and pick it up." But of course, we had to do it the way they wanted to do it.
I ended up losing four days of work without pay because of promised things that never came through. I have an autistic child and he doesn't take kindly the people coming in that he doesn't know so I needed to be there when it was put in. It was not until the next week when it was done and it seemed like ever since we put it in, it's cooled off dramatically.
I have no complaints about the guys that did the service. They were wonderful. I stayed in touch with the owner and we worked together. They were very professional. I can't say I'm dissatisfied because we do have the unit. It is in, everything is working great now. The only complaint I had was there in the beginning when somebody didn’t order the part when they said they did.

Back in May, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield because my air conditioner was not working. It's not working again and when I called a week ago to submit a claim, I was on hold. I went to bed since it was 10 o’clock at night and my mom picked up for me and took over until she had to go to bed at midnight. We didn’t get anybody for at least five hours. We ended up going online and it was quick. We requested the same contractor and he’s coming out on Monday. Everything was great except for waiting on the phone that long.
Rebecca,
We appreciate your patience when attempting to reach customer service and glad that you were able to request service online instead of holding. American Home Shield is working to improve hold times for a better customer service experience for our customers. Thank you for sharing this experience with us!

One time, American Home Shield came in and did the electricity problem in our house because the boxes were broken and weren’t working. The company came and I paid them $100 but I had to pay for the boxes because that wasn’t covered. Prior to that, the company that American Home Shield had came in to do my air conditioner in July (when it's hotter than hell) for 10 days but did not come for three or four days. I had to hire someone else to come in and put Freon into the air conditioner. The third time, my washer went out and it took them 10 days to replace that washer. It was a great inconvenience since my wife washes every day.
They realized it was such an inconvenience so they gave me two free service calls. I did use them both but it was harder than hell to get them to actually pay for the second one. They kept sending me bills and telling me I owed them $100 but they eventually cleared that up. I won't use American Home Shield again because it's a terrible company and I wouldn't recommend them.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the contractors took 2 days to come out. They were both professionals and did a good job. They gave me a better heater than I had before and I was surprised by the quality of the repairs. It was an excellent service.

My water heater started leaking and American Home Shield replaced it. I called in to file a claim and it was pretty easy. The contractor who they sent out did a good job and since then, the heater’s worked fine. The only issue is, because the water heater was under warranty, I had to pay an additional $75 on top of the $75 for the service call. But if they went someplace else and got a different brand water heater, it would have been covered. Overall though, I like their service. This is my third year with them and they’re simple to work with.

Something with the drum of my washer was wrong and this rep told me, "They'll probably offer you $400 or I can fix it." So I called AHS the next day and I get this idiot on the phone that tells me she has no manager that I can speak to although I know she's lying to me because everyone has one. By the end of the conversation, she says, "Well, yeah. But they're busy." The conversation went on for 50 minutes. This girl kept saying they have to order the part to diagnose the problem. This girl would not let me talk to anybody else and she was like a parrot. "We have to order the part to fix the problem." The guy already knew what the problem was and if I opted for the $400, he would have been stuck with that part if it was ordered.
I was trying to find out they were going to give me a buyout offer because it's right after Labor Day and Best Buy is having a sale but they are only going on for two more days. When I finally got a hold of somebody, he says that he can't tell me and it has to go to another department. Then that department couldn't tell and I had to go another department. It was a very bad experience. I had to take my laundry to a laundromat, and these fools were telling me it's going to be two weeks before a decision could be made. And then another 10 days, if they didn't give me the buyout, to order the part on top of that. So I'm supposed to go 24 days without a washer? I had bed sheets, blankets, hospital clothes, everything backed up and I couldn't wash anything.
So then, they eventually offered me $420, which I took. But that was after I bought the washer, had it installed and had them take the other out. So if they weren't going to offer it, I was stuck with this bill. I've been a good customer of theirs for 12 years. What's going to happen when the next big appliance goes? What kind of run around and rigmarole am I going to get? Their customer service is the worst I've ever had in my life.

We're quite pleased with American Home Shield. My central vac had quit working and submitting the claim for it online was very easy. The guy AHS sent out replaced the unit. He had searched the unit a couple of times, and it kept shorting out. But he fixed it. He was in and out here in an hour and was very courteous, efficient, and professional.

I've used their service 3 times. The first service call was for blocked sewer line. I was satisfied. It was a very easy and professional experience which was completed quickly. That is then. This is now! Not sure if the company changed ownership or was bought out but my recent calls have been nightmares. Like my first experience, I arranged for my service through the web client. I quickly get an email saying this repair service will call and schedule a service call. The second job was for my air conditioner. It was a heatwave and it stopped working altogether. AHS doesn't give you 2 or 3 possible repair services. You're at the mercy of the ONE repair shop. I am disabled and have asthmatic attacks from dust allergies. The repair people call and say they cannot come out for 3 days!
I call AHS customer service and am put into a queue. The queue gives you an approximate wait time, BUT THEY LIE! They recirculate the queue without warning! I'm on hold 30 minutes, suddenly the phone rings and you think it's your turn BUT it auto answers saying how important your call is and says your approximate wait time is 45 minutes! They should have a more modern queue that asks if you'd like to be called when you're next. NOT HERE! I hung up, contacted the repair shop and told them about my health condition and had mercy enough to send someone the next day.
My 3rd, current and probably final use of AHS is as follows. I called 9/13/17 for a leaking spigot in backyard. I mean a steady water wasting fast drip! Same as above but worst! I set up a call for a plumber on the website, they send me a vendor's name, and I'm contacted by them and they give me an appointment, 5 DAYS LATER! I call AHS, same terrible lying phone queue, 50+ minutes I get a representative on the line. I told the support Rep about my leak, the long 5 day appointment and if there was someone else who could expedite the house call. At the time I did not remember the repair company's name but you would think the support representative could see who was contacted and they could then contact a DIFFERENT company. No, after waiting 50+ minutes she says, "Okay I will recommend this company, they can get to you earlier."
I said, "Thanks", hung up, checked my email, and BAM! It was the same company. I'm pissed and decide a high blood pressure stroke isn't worth it so I wait 5 days. That brings us to today, 9/18/17. Around 9:30 am the repair Guy calls saying he is on the way. In less than 10 minutes he goes, "oh, you have stucco around the pipe. That's not good. In order to replace that I'm gonna have to get AHS permission to break away the stucco". "I'll come back maybe later. Maybe tomorrow once and if I get permission". GONE! Water and money still dripping! My contract alllows for the repair person to cut away the stucco to make the repair! I go on the AHS website looking for a contact number for their support again. I noticed it said that the job was completed. I'm angrier now because not only did I have to wait 5 days to get a leak repaired, nothing happened and it appeared as if the work was completed!
I'm lied to in the queue, AGAIN! I'm told 30 min. Queue, after 35 min. puts me in another 30 min cue. Finally I get a representative. I talk to him for 10 minutes. I tell him "for a leak, my service call should have been expedited"; "I wasted time in the queue hoping to get service faster through another repair company only to be sent back to the same company! (BTW, I live very close to San Diego, CA. They contracted a repair company from Riverside, CA; Over 2 hours away!)"; and "is there a way for a manager to call that company and authorize them to do the repair?" The representative says, "Let me get a supervisor", and he hangs up on me! 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES GONE! I know he had my phone number but he doesn't call back!
I start all over again! This time the lying queue says 10-15 minute wait. After 12 minutes it lied! It sent me back in the for another 30 min. I get another Rep on the phone, go over the whole ugly chain of events and they just don't give a damn! I finallly speak to a supervisor who is more of parrot than human. I'd ask him a question, rephrase it 3 times and he still spat out the same canned response. He just couldn't help me! Their customer support program doesn't automatically create a history record of each phone call. I asked the manager if he could reprimand that support Rep who hung up me and didn't call back. He said there was no record of an earlier call. How do you know if these people are positively representing your company?
I asked why didn't they send a repair person more local. He replied, "It's possible there is only ONE available there". I couldn't believe it! San Diego doesn't have one plumber working with this warranty service? I'm a disabled veteran. I made a VA hospital appointment 3 weeks ago for 9/19/17 @ 1:40 pm. I cannot miss this and now because of this unprofessional service, I might have to go 7 or more days without getting my plumbing leak fixed. Yes I am angry and you can think I am exaggerating or really trying to hurt this company. I'm not though. In fact it is so much more frustrating than I could adequately put down here. I pay for this service monthly for years. I may not ever use it but when or if I do, I expect it to be there for me and it has failed.

I've been an AHS customer for years but have never been so disappointed with the service I received when I needed them for something major. I've used them for small things like my garbage disposal and never had an issue. The entire process was seamless. This time my air conditioner compressor needed to be replaced. Instead of allowing the contracted company to order and replace it in a timely manner, AHS insisted on ordering the part from who knows where that took more than a week. It was also sent to two different places before arriving at the HVAC company. When I called AHS customer service, first I was on hold for 64 minutes waiting to speak with a person, then the representative was extremely curt and unsympathetic to my issue. There are several other home warranty companies available to me. I'll definitely be looking at them before renewing my contract with AHS next time.

We have been a member for several years, refrigerator went out 7-28-17, called in, on hold almost hour, hung up & filed a service request online on 7-29-17. Tech called within a short time & set appointment & came out 8-1-17. When he got there he checked refrigerator and called in to American Home Shield and was told - IN ERROR - by their rep refrigerator was NOT covered. When I had time a few days later I read my contract & refrigerator(s) are in fact covered under our plan. I called AHS a few time over next couple weeks to talk to a human & hung up after 30-45 min on hold. Finally I committed to stay on line until someone answered and after over one hour on hold finally got to speak to a customer service rep. She confirmed they had made a mistake when tech had called in & in fact multiple refrigerators are covered. She said would send the tech a message that they needed his diagnosis, give them 48 hours. No response.
I sent message from their contact us on their website 9/6. Auto reply someone will contact me soon as of 9-18-17 NO RESPONSE. Called in again 9/13/17 & someone actually answered after about 15 minutes, said still had not heard from tech, would send another request and escalate. Now 9-18-17 and no response from anyone, I am currently 54 minutes on hold at their customer service # waiting on a rep to answer.

My range didn’t work so I thought it broke down, but the appliance guy said that it’s an electrical issue so I had to call the electrician. He came and he just had to change the fuse box. The range performs very well since then. And it was a pleasant experience but I wish I didn’t have to pay for the appliance. Both guys who came made it out. Other than that, everything is good with AHS.

I called American Home Shield concerning a gas hot water heater. I could light the pilot light and the burner would come on. It would work fine for a couple of days and then for no reason at all it would just go out. I would have to go back and light the pilot light and I did that twice in one week. When they called me I specifically told them that I have relit the pilot light and it was currently working but I felt like there was something wrong with it and it needs to be checked out.
When the service man came out he just looked at it and said, "Oh it's working. I can't work on it while it's working." And then he left. They knew that before he came out but he just left and I got billed $75 for nothing. It may have been a misunderstanding, but he did nothing. Luckily since that time the pilot light has not gone off again so it’s weird.
But with the first call I had with AHS I had no problems at all. It was an electrical issue with a couple of receptacles that didn't have power for some reason. An electrician came out and fixed that -- no sweat and no problem. I'm totally new to AHS and this is the first time I ever had a home warranty so it's a new experience for me and overall the service has really been prompt and there has been no problems with getting someone to respond at all. I would still recommend them to anybody.

I made a claim with American Home Shield about my air conditioning unit. There was some water that was dripping down and I needed them to look at it. The contractor that was sent out was prompt and seem to understand what he was doing, and the problem was resolved. AHS is very good but they need additional help with answering the phones. I went to call one time and it took forever to get through to somebody. They put me on hold which took about 40 minutes of wasted time. Once I did, they never got back on the line. I had to go to an account representative to find out what the deal was and it turned out what I was told was covered was not actually covered. That was the first time. Then the second time I did it, it was much smoother. Other than that, my experience has been very good.

The first request was on a Friday and that took a while. But on the second one I put in, they called me the next day and were out the following day. The contractor was awesome. He fixed the problem easily and explained what was wrong as well so I could understand what was going on. Overall, it’s an easy process and it went really well. American Home Shield is an easy service and is worth it for any problems you have with your home.

I did not like the company that American Home Shield had sent out because the representative told me that he can do one or two things: charge me $1,300 and put more refrigerant inside the unit which is probably going to leak out anyway, or tell the company that outside condensing unit needs to be replaced because there's a leak. Common sense would be to get the unit replaced if the leak is something that you can't fix, so why would he even offer me to put more refrigerant in for $1,300? The rep took the dirty filter out of the furnace which was a stupid because I don't have another one to replace that. When I contacted American Shield, they said the furnace is about $1,100 in change and cost that’s not covered. A few days later when I called to schedule, they were like, "Oh, now it's another $150 for a permit as well."
When AHS called me to schedule, they were very rude and very unprofessional. The rep was telling me that I needed to pay them $1,200 on Monday so they could buy the part which I thought AHS was paying for, together with the cost of labor. I don't know what kind of company they’re running there, but everybody knows once the work is done you pay whatever associated cost you claim and then this new condensing unit put in. When I submitted the claim, the representative had an attitude and was getting annoyed. I thought that was the whole point of customer service representative: to answer the questions of the customer.
I wanted her to explain to me why I was paying all those charges and why I was paying for the condensing unit. She said I wasn’t paying for that unit, and the $75 charge was for the repairman to diagnose what was wrong and, usually, that cost more than that but AHS was paying the rest of it. She was very nonchalant and she really didn't care. I had concerns and she wasn't making me feel like I made a good choice with AHS. I may sound young but I've been a homeowner since I was 25 years old and I'm not stupid. I didn't like their attitude at all so I don't want them doing anything for me. I said I'll find a company that I want to fix it and then I'll do the cash-out. She also said that once one company gives an estimate that's who they have to go with, and that's ridiculous. Other well-known companies with the Better Business Bureau or with Angie's have done a great job.
I told her I'm not satisfied with that company that they sent out and I don't want them coming to my house at all. She said, “That's your choice.” This has been going on for almost two weeks now and I've been going back and forth. I had to wait for four days for somebody from AHS to give me a callback and then they receive their monthly payment for the service call. It's like all I'm doing is wasting money but nothing is getting done. It makes me almost hesitant to put in another claim for something because right now, I'm having a problem with my refrigerator where the water and ice portion is not working even though I change the filter. If I called and put in another claim, they're going to charge me maybe $1,000 to get a new refrigerator.
My aunt told me that I should have never even gone with AHS because she's heard bad reviews in the past that the company’s a rip-off. Maybe I need to cancel with AHS and not even deal with the hassle of paying a company each month if something was to go on and when something goes on, I'm still coming out thousands of dollars. When I first signed up with AHS, the gentleman rep was very courteous and he made me feel like I was making a good decision. I'm not going to say the company totally sucked because I'm not out with this first claim. If I got another company to do the job and they paid me out, maybe I will feel okay with recommending AHS to another person that I know. The end result was I got what I wanted and the AC is fixed, but I will not recommend anyone to AHS because I think it's a bit of a rip-off.

When we bought the home in 2006, the people here bought us a home warranty, American Home Shield, for one year and we've kept it since. The claims process with AHS is very simple. I can do it online or call them and talk to a representative. But it's easy to do it all online, put what is going wrong, then the fee, and it’s all done. I usually get a call from the company within 24 hours.
When the dishwasher went out, we bought our own dishwasher because we totally forgot about the home warranty. However, the new dishwasher didn’t drain correctly, so the company that put it in came back out and fixed it. The owner of that company ran a family business and he was very rude, but we finally got that taken care of. The time came when my wall oven’s heating element blew up while my son was baking me a birthday cake. The wall oven was there ever since the house was built in ’58. Sears came out first and said they couldn’t find an element so they recommended it to be replaced. American Home Shield went through another company that they were contracted with. That contractor came out and said that they can replace the element and so we all ordered it.
However, my birthday came and I hadn’t heard anything back. So, I called the company and they said that it’s an old element since it’s an old oven but they've got it ordered and it will be here. They would contact me when it comes in. November came, Thanksgiving, and I had no oven. I went out and bought multiple electric roasters so I could cook Thanksgiving dinner for my family. After Thanksgiving, I called again. They said that they would have the element for me for New Year. But I didn’t have it for New Year either. It took them that long to get the heating element and they finally got it put in after New Year. It was four months without an oven. I had a double wall oven and when the heating element blew, I couldn’t use the other one because as soon as I turn the oven on, the circuit would break.
They put an element that did not look like my other element. There was a shelf guard that goes over the element so when it drips it doesn’t hit the element and anything that runs over doesn’t hit the element as well. They said that they don’t need that and that these are different elements. And then, the element blew within three weeks of them installing it. AHS called them back out again and the company said that they would have to order another element. I called AHS very upset so they sent Sears out and ServiceMaster. The guy walked in the house and said that he remembered the wall oven and he’s not working on it, so he called AHS, sat out there for 45 minutes, discussed it with AHS.
Sears said that there’s an issue with the oven and it's up in years. With that being said, I needed a new oven. Then AHS did what they needed to do. They contacted me and showed me an oven that was similar but a little bit bigger. I had to go and do the carpentry works to get it into the spot. We had to run our own electrical work up because the original electrical was at the bottom of the old wall oven but with the new oven, electrical was at the top. For $75, I got a new double wall oven that will probably last until the day I die. In the end, it all worked out.
We also had our water heater fixed recently as it kept blowing heating element. It was an old water heater and not very efficient. So, AHS replaced it since the water heater had been repaired three times. The company that repaired the dishwasher and changed the elements of the wall oven called and said that they were going to set the water heater up. I called AHS and told them that I don’t want that company back in my home. I'd rather wait than have that very rude guy. I knew that they had other people so somebody else came out and even though it took three extra days, AHS accommodated me since it was such a nightmare dealing with the other company. The water heater that was used was a much better brand than the one that I had and I was happy with that. But if something goes wrong, it will be covered under warranty, but I have to pay to have it taken out and a new one installed. That is standard with water heaters.
Another thing is that we have two central air units since we have a quad level home. One unit does the upstairs and then the other unit does the main floor, the basement, and then the sub-basement. In 2015 the central air unit that operates on three floors went out. A person came out but all he did was charge me for the extra Freon. This year, the upstairs air conditioner went out. AHS was very helpful on the phone. It does take a little bit longer, but the representative was able to pull up all my history and she could give me dates of when I called in the air conditioner. A contractor came out and they checked for leaks and everything else. He said that if I ever had charged my air conditioner, there was a leak and whoever did it should have checked for leaks instead of doing a streamline in it.
I called AHS to find out which company did it and it turned out to be the same company. Right now, that same unit is getting ready to get worked on and they're going to replace the coils since that’s where it's leaking. However, the company can't pay it because everything gets processed through AHS. So I called AHS but they talked to me about the recent claim with a sump pump. I had put that claim since I knew I paid for it on my charge card, but they don’t actually take it out until people filed that it's completed.
AHS is a wonderful company that works on it, but they wait and submit three months’ worth of claims all at one time. So, two months later, I got this notice that they're taking out an amount of money for this claim. Although I paid for it, I couldn’t find the charge. But then, they explained the process. That company finally had turned the claim in, that job has been completed and they narrowed the fee. Everybody has been very professional and very timely. AHS has a very good team of people working for them, except for one local business here that I wouldn’t recommend to an enemy. I recommend AHS to people all the time. I'm very happy with American Home Shield.

We found out that the pipe that hooked to the faucet couldn’t withstand the pressure of the water. It blasted and water went everywhere so we called American Home Shield. The process was fairly quick. My husband gave them the rundown on what happened. Then they took our information and said someone would be calling us back. That was really late at night. It happened on a weekend, but they were able to get somebody during the week to come out. We had two sinks in that bathroom and the problem only affected one sink, so it wasn’t a big rush.
The contractor who they sent was very professional, very knowledgeable, and explained everything. He kind of took it to a one-on-one level for me to understand what it was that he was doing and wrote down exactly what it was that he needed to do and what I needed to look for at the store which was a faucet that would withstand pressure. The problem also had something to do with the valves. I called them back after I found the faucet, got the serial numbers, and told them exactly which faucet it was. Then they got it on their own, and then came back and did it. It was an easy experience, and I'm glad that we have American Home Shield. I've already recommended them to my mom.

I've used American Home Shield more this year than I have before. I had a water heater replaced earlier in the year and it was fine. There was a previous provider that hadn't done what they were supposed to do because I had to call American Home Shield back for an air conditioner problem. The techs came immediately, checked it and discovered I needed a new coil. Unfortunately, it took about a week to get that. I ended up in the ER due to too much heat but that was partly my fault. Anyway, they got the part and got it fixed right away with no problem.
I recently discovered that I use 9000 gallons of water in a week. I called American Home Shield to file a claim. You have to wait a while to get there. When they got the call it has worked fine. They're pleasant and answered all my questions. The plumbers were here within a couple of hours. One plumber started the work and another one was called. They had to dig up a section of the plumbing tubing. They worked at it and got it done in a hurry. I was pleased with how quickly they've gotten here. All of the repairs have been done well.
Marilyn,
We are grateful to hear how satisfied you are with services at American Home Shield! As your home warranty company, providing prompt and quality service within a timely manner is very important to us. Thank you for sharing this experience!

I had two claims with American Home Shield: one for the dishwasher and one for the air conditioner. My claim for the dishwasher was great. The guy came out quickly, chatted with us about all kinds of things and he was good to work with. He assessed the problem, ordered the part, was back and replaced it, and they were timely. However, the air conditioner was another story. They came out and assessed it and determined that the air conditioning unit had to be replaced. They contacted American Home Shield and ordered a new condenser for it and said that once they got that part, they would schedule the installation.
They got the part and scheduled the installation, but there was a delay because the contractor ordered the wrong coil. They didn’t expedite it so we were without air for almost a month which was wholly unacceptable for me. And when they got the part, it took them a while to get us scheduled in because they were too busy. I understand it's summer, but I felt like they should have prioritized it and they didn’t. Also, I looked recently and there was water leaking somewhere from the air conditioner and the lights flickered now when the unit kicked on. So, there were some things that were not right about the installation and I had to have them come back out which I was not happy about.
I understand that that’s a policy of American Home Shield, but I didn’t feel like this company was up to the quality that I request of a contractor. They were not very professional and the woman I dealt with was very rude. If I was paying for it, I would never go with them but since Home Shield was paying for it, I'm stuck with them. Home Shield sent them a message and I had to call the contractor to get the appointment scheduled. They were supposed to call me within 24 hours, but they didn’t.
I made complaints with the person I spoke with on the phone and Home Shield said they would refer to contractor relations, but I never received any information from them. Also, it's very difficult to call them because it's at least a 45-minute wait. I waited, but at the same time did the web chat with them last time to get the contractor back out. They waived the technician fee which should be because it wasn’t my fault that the product that got replaced was not functioning in some way.

When we had a leaky pipe, American Home Shield very promptly sent somebody out to look at it. However, it turned out that it wasn't resolved in that visit because it was a very much bigger situation. Instead of a leak, the pipe between the second and third-floor sewer pipes was split. So it was a long involved thing. The insurance company for the building came out and provided plumbers that traced the leak and fixed it. Recently, I had a plumbing problem and needed a new faucet. So I called American Home Shield and then a plumber called me. He came and I went out and got the faucet. Then he came back and installed it. The problem was solved within hours.
American Home Shield is enormously helpful and I'm so happy that I have a contract with them. I've gotten quality responses every time I've had to call them. Their claims reps were very pleasant and knowledgeable. They were friendly and very efficient as well. Their contractors were wonderful. I've had contractors that I continued to see afterwards.

My garbage disposal quit working and there was leaking all over. I also had an electrical issue. I called American Home Shield and submitting my claims was easy. Their reps seemed knowledgeable and they told me that I'll be getting an email on who would be coming out. But I didn't know that the electrical issue was not covered until the techs got here. I live in Coburg so I spent $75 to find out I'm not covered and that was not fair. They replaced my garbage disposal with a new unit though and I've had a good experience with them.
But when I filed a claim for my dryer that went out, I had a problem with their delivery of the replacement unit. I've got two working guys in the middle of winter bringing up the dryer in a box. They measured the front door and the steps but they couldn’t deliver it past the front steps. They had to take it down in the box and it wouldn't fit so they just left it out there on my front steps. I called AHS that I couldn't roll it over then I finally had help from a friend who got home from work. He took it right in with no problem. Other than that, AHS has delivered prompt, dependable and reliable service. They also offered certain money back to take care of issues and since the house is well over 50 years old, I will stay with them. We can't expect everything to hold up and if things go out at the same time, I don't have the money to cover that.

I like the fact that American Home Shield sent me emails, letting me know when the guy was showing up, and another one as a reminder. Since the repair, the plumbing didn’t have any problem. But I have had some issues with them not acknowledging that I paid the vendor and they changed my credit card. I did have something taken out of my checking account that I don’t understand from them for $65 but, all in all, I’m very happy with AHS. The performance of the people that they sent and the way they handle the claims were excellent. I’m very happy with Tenny Plumbing too. I trust them all the time. Over a 10 year period, I've been impressed with the quality of service of American Home Shield. My primary home is here in Jersey and we bought a house in Pennsylvania. This past year, I got a policy from AHS for the other house. I used AHS for that house and I was so pleased. It has been very easy to submit a claim with AHS. They were somewhat difficult to get a hold of on the phone but their website was very easy to use.
However, I had one incident this year when I ended up canceling the job that the contractor, Rubber Duck Plumbing, was coming out to do. The guy from there came once and said that he’ll come back. That ran for almost a two-week period and he was not showing up, so I called American Shield and canceled the job. I paid $100 for this guy to come but he never got the problem fixed.
Then I called in a plumbing firm from here and they came the next day, fixed and replaced everything, got everything done, and they charged me $180. What ticks me off about AHS is that when I sent them the bill from this other company, they said that they don't pay other bills if we get somebody else or if we cancel. They listed on the sheet what the first plumber said, that he was unable to make a connection with me, which was totally false. I kept a copy of all the text messages and voice mails that I had with the first guy who showed up once, constantly jerked me around, and did not come back. I still get my blood pressure up thinking about him.
But that was the only time in 10 years that I ever had that kind of experience with AHS. I've had one or two claims a year with AHS on plumbing, electrical or appliance issues that I've been very pleased with, so I keep my AHS policy on both houses. I know that I'm going to pay a service fee and AHS is going to hold their fee to the fire until they get my problem fixed, so I generally don't have to worry about who's coming. Two weeks ago, the pump on my pool went out and AHS sent a contractor over that quit on fixing the pool at one juncture because they didn't get new parts. But then they came in again and put a new pump in, and I was really pleased with that.

There was water spewing everywhere in our storage room. It was coming from the piping and was shooting all over the furnace. I went online and filed a claim to get a repair. It didn’t give me an option of putting what the problem was, so all I did was put down that it was my water heater and what floor it was on. In the past, when I’ve put in service request, it would ask what the problem was. When they told me who the contractor was, their office was already closed, so we had to shut our water off. They could not get anyone out until the following day. It would be better if we could indicate a level of emergency and describe what the problem is. Then if American Home Shield deems it to be a problem, they’re going to get someone out a little quicker than us having to wait.
I called them in the morning when they opened and explained the problem. They sent somebody out, but unfortunately they have to contact American Home Shield and explain that the tank needed to be replaced, and then they had to wait another day before they had the proper unit to come out and do that. So it took two days which was not bad. The contractors were awesome and professional. It’s the first company I’ve had come out for something that did not try to upsell me. And since the repair, the water heater works wonderfully. We’ve always had a good experience with American Home Shield. They've been straightforward with the copay and the process.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was relatively easy. However, it was Friday when I submitted a claim to them for the water heater and I didn’t hear anything back from the company. So, I called and it happened to be a weekend, so they didn’t consider it as a workday. I don't know if there’s a way to be able to make that more clear because when the water heater goes, other things suffer such as showers and dishes. It would have been nice to know if that’s the case. If it happens on a Friday, you’re not going to hear anything from somebody until Monday. So, you prepared for two days without it.
The contractor who came was good, though. He came on a Tuesday, found a water heater on Thursday and wanted to install it on a Friday afternoon. He then ended up coming early because another person had not responded to his call, so he decided to come in and do ours first, which was nice. The only downside of doing AHS is you have to wait, compared to paying a plumber out of pocket wherein you could get them a lot faster to change out the hot water heater. AHS was a good program to have and I benefited with the hot water heater, but from now on, I’m just going to pay out of pocket. It was unnecessary overall.

He said that I needed a part. I said that’s also what the other guy said. He said, "Well, maybe they're just double-checking and making sure." And he said, "Well, I'll order your part." My AC is leaking at the bottom and although that's fine since my basement is not finished so the water goes straight to the drain, I just can't let the water keep doing that. I called American Home Shield and submitted a claim. The people are great, but the hour and 34 minutes I waited to talk to a person was bad. That was the first when we got it all set up. Then I had to call back for some reason and I waited 58 minutes more. Their customer service is off the charts terrible. I've had three things break in the last six months and each time, the wait time was over an hour. It was enough to make me want to cancel them. It's ridiculous.
I called on a Sunday and heard from the contractor on a Tuesday. He came out and told me that my AC has a crack on its condenser fan. He couldn't fix the problem without putting an A coil in. I had to go through their approval to have that, which took a week. Then they called back and told me that it has been approved and that it's going to be $900 out of my pocket. I didn't think I'd pay, I thought AHS would. I already got $100 into it. A guy from work came by my house today and I found that for another 600 bucks, I can have everything brand new so I'm thinking of doing that. But the lady from AHS said he had to be bonded but my buddy isn't. But if that's the case I'm still going to go on and let my buddy do it and I'll just pay him. He's licensed to do this. I'm also probably going to cancel with AHS over this.

My AC went out and they sent out three different companies and my motor had to be replaced and the unit. We’re in Tampa, Florida and yesterday it was 89 degrees in the house and didn't cool down until about midnight. The AC would be off and on and then the motor was bad so it would run, go out and then come back on. The first time I filed a claim, I did a chat online and it was very speedy. The guy they sent out thought he fixed it and then it went out like a week later so I resubmitted a claim with American Home Shield. The guy came back out but he didn’t know if it was the motor that’s wrong.
I called American Home Shield because they need to send out a second opinion and then it took a week or two to for the second person to come out and it wasn't even a company. It was a guy and his wife in a van, and they were horrible. They smoked on my front porch and they came in and were there for five minutes. This contractor needed an access hole for them to be able to fix the AC unit because they couldn't get to it the way it was facing. I called American Home Shield from that date for about 15 times and spoke to at least 10 different people, and the ball completely dropped. They told me the things that were covered in my contract but once they finally got to the approval they would say that it's not. Had I known that AHS wouldn’t send out a company like they said they would, I would have done the access hole a month ago.
So finally, they did that and I was told several times that they would call me back. My first claim was July 14th and it just got done today.AHS said that they never received the report from the second company or the pictures. I sent pictures and information to AHS but they still said they never got it. I started posting stuff on their website, trying to get them to react but I was actually worried. Even after all of those, I asked to speak to a supervisor and they still haven't contacted me and every time I call, I was on hold for at least an hour if not more before someone actually came to the phone. My dad who has American Home Shield recommended them and he said he's always had a great experience with them but I had a terrible one.

I called American Home Shield to have a dryer looked at and submitting the claim went very well. The response was very quick from AHS and from the appliance company that was scheduled to come out and repair the dryer. When the gentleman first came, he knew exactly what to do. It seemed like he had it working. So, I did a bunch of laundry and I started to use the dryer again and my clothes are wetter than wet. It took four times to get any kind of wetness out.
So I called them back and said, "Something's up with the dryer." He came back the next day, which is really nice and we had it opened. There was a bunch of different things in there. I said, "You know what, you vacuum that out now, you'll be fine." I come to find out my dryer vent, exhaust, flexible hose, was ripped. So it wasn't acting like it should. It has to be suctioned back in. So he said, "You got to replace your line." I said, "Well, do you do that?" He said, "No. I don't do that." Then he mentioned that normally, it would be another service call, another $75 but since I got a hold of him, he can take care of it but there's nothing that he did then and I ended up replacing the whole hardline pipe in.
What he replaced might not have even been the issue in the first place. So I gave him raving reviews when he first came. He's not a bad guy but he should have done a little more research in diving into the first day. I'm a realtor and we've always used their product but this is actually the first time I had to personally use their product. Their service from the call in, the setup, even the appliance guy getting back to us quickly, was great but the workmanship was a little questionable. Nevertheless, I'll recommend AHS all day long.

I filed my claim over the phone and the contractor that American Home Shield sent didn't change anything. He said that nothing was broken. He just said it was hot and it was upstairs and we'd needed to keep it at a certain temperature so it would perform better. Overall, it's good typical service.

We filed a claim online with American Home Shield for our sink and bathroom and they were easily fixed. The contractor was friendly and informative on what he was doing and what he's going to do on the house. So far, they’re working good and it was a very satisfying experience.

I've had three claims with American Home Shield but they were all recalls from the first one. I called them out initially because I had multiple leaks throughout the house. The contractors came, they fixed those leaks, and everything was good. One of the areas that had previously been leaking was still leaking, just not as significantly, so the contractors came out again, they snaked the drain, and everything was great. That's the main drain for the entire house and after they snaked it from the basement to the road, it clogged above where they snaked it. So, they came back out, they snaked it again, cleaned it really good, and it's been fantastic.
The first time I submitted the claim, I did it over the phone through the automated service and that was very easy. Then when I spoke to the people that scheduled the claim, there were two different parts to it. So, I had to call back to make sure that those were submitted under the same claim because they're two different areas. Calling was extremely difficult only because I had to sit on hold before anybody answered the phone, and that's been every time I've called. Anytime I needed to speak to somebody, I couldn’t do a recall through the automated service. To sit on hold for an hour to get something in your house fixed is a little ridiculous, and I've done it three times now. But other than that, once you're on the phone, they're very professional and very kind.
The contractor that they sent out was called Choice Plumbing and I have had the same guys sent all three times. I spoke to the same woman on the phone a couple of times and then a guy on the phone another time, and they're all great. The technician showed up within five minutes of the beginning of the two-hour window and he was always done before the end of that window. So, they came here for the three claims: First time was for fixing leaks, second was for plumbing, and the third time was for snaking. I’ve been with American Home Shield since June when I bought the house, so the house is just working out the kinks. Everybody at AHS has been really awesome and friendly other than the hold times.

We got an air conditioning unit that turned out to be too big for our house and the coil in the unit isn't even the correct size coil for the unit. We've had a couple different services to come out and try to fix the same problem. The unit will never work if they can’t fix it. According to the policy, AHS is supposed to replace it if they can't fix it, but they're not going to fix it. Submitting a claim online was a very convenient process. The technician they sent out was very helpful, nice and he took his time. But the warranty is not going to cover it even though it's the warranty when we purchased the house. It frustrates me a little bit.

I was having problems with one of my toilets in my house so I filed a claim with American Home Shield. Their rep was very pleasant on the phone. Then the contractor they sent was okay but has not sent the $85 or $89 check yet because we've purchased our own toilet. They said it would take a few weeks but it has already been over a few weeks. Still, the young guy was phenomenal. He was in a bad shape that he couldn't turn his head but he still put the toilet in and did a great job.
The toilet has been working like it should be since the repair. It makes things easier for my wife because the bathroom is adjacent to her office and so she doesn't have to go to another room. I've been with American Home Shield since 2007 and they did great works. Every once in a while, I get a contractor who sometimes doesn't do everything he is supposed to do. But for the most part, everything has been good with them. AHS stands behind their words and they covered everything that they said they're going to cover. I've recommended them to my sister-in-law, my brother, and sister who all owned homes.

My refrigerator was leaking water on my floor. American Home Shield sent out several companies and they could not get the refrigerator fixed. They were ordering parts and realize they weren't qualified to even put the parts in the refrigerator. I had to escalate a call because I was dissatisfied that I’m paying for a yearly service plus paying $75 a service call and my refrigerator was still leaking. They ended up sending me to another company. But then, the said company told me that they'll order the parts. A month passed by and I was still looking for the part. I then found out that the contractor who came out has been fired from his company, so AHS sent me to another company. The company then told me that they're going to order the part for me.
After a month, AHS called me and asked me if my refrigerator has been fixed. I told them that it's not and they called the company. The next day, I get a call from Sears who told me that they have a service call set up for me the next week. I told them that I have another company. However, when I called AHS, they told me that their company was not qualified to put the needed part. Finally, Sears came out and found out that it was just the drain and that there was a clog at the back of the refrigerator and had nothing to do with the inside. Every time AHS sends someone out, I had to empty everything out the front of my refrigerator so they can unscrew the back of the refrigerator to get to the electronic part of it. This went on for six months and finally, it was resolved last month.
I also kept getting notices from AHS saying that I owed them a service claim, which I didn’t. I had already escalated it to the escalation team and they were supposed to give me two free service calls. I’m still getting the notices and I’ve called them several times about it. I paid AHS $700 for the year and I don't owe them money. I’ve carried them for about 6 years and I’ve never had this problem with them in the past. I always pay in full for the year. But this year, I don’t understand what their issue is. Also, when I call them, they set me on hold for over an hour. I want my $700 back from them because they didn't resolve my issue in a way that they should have. They told me that they can’t give me back my money and that they can’t refund me any service calls. I was very dissatisfied with it. The experience has been lousy and I won't be renewing next year with them.

I've been trying to get the air conditioning system from overflowing, leaking and running onto the floor. It was a major problem because it was a stuck up drain. It's a problem with a regulator or the valve that's sliding out. I always hear horror stories from people telling me American Home Shield's representatives won't talk to me but they have been nice and they responded well. I got my answers right there when I asked and talked to the ladies.
World Service out of Orlando has been knowledgeable. My wife is Japanese and I asked the contractor if he could put booties on and he said, "No problem. I can put on booties, whatever you prefer." They were professional and my wife appreciated that. They have tried everything in the world but they're still working on my issue. The valve has to be replaced and we're trying to get that organized. I told them that I'll wait for the hurricane to pass and they have been prompt.
Also, when my refrigerator had a gas leak that was non-repairable we put in a claim and American Home Shield sent out a repairman who told me that they had it replaced with the exact model and number. They came back and gave me a comparable cost or they would replace it with what my wife would like. They've been decent and they took care of us.

At the beginning of August, I filed a claim for a water heater repair and American Home Shield sent out a plumbing company. However, the two guys they sent out did not even look 20 years old and they had never ever in their life even looked at an electric water heater. These guys didn't even know how to take a resistance rating on heating elements and I had to tell them how to go about that but this was after they had already tried to almost blow up my house. They tried to take the voltage rating off of both positive wires when the positive and the negative laid on a voltmeter and thinking that they were going to come up with 240 somehow. They created sparks by my water heater and almost blew up the house, but thankfully, it wasn’t a gas water heater. They ended up replacing a couple of heating elements and left. They said it would be working but I checked it an hour later and it wasn’t working.
I called the company back up and the supervisor came out. He looked at it and tried to tell me that he doesn’t really know much about it. From what he said, there's not a lot of electric water heaters in the north area and he ended up doing nothing. When he left, it was sort of working, but it would still trip the high limits reset button on the thermostat. They ended up dry-starting the top heating element, causing it to basically blow up inside the tank. So the top heating element doesn’t work anymore and every time I've called, he has told me to reach out to the reset button and reset to 180 degrees which trips it again.
When I called them back and told them it wasn’t working, they said it's an electrical issue and that’s not something they can deal with. So I called up my electrical company, Lytle Electric, which happens to also deal with American Home Shield and I had them come out. They gave me paperwork showing that it was not an electrical issue which is exactly what I knew. I called up American Home Shield to send them the paperwork and they sent out another plumbing company. However, that plumbing company was too busy and couldn’t make it. AHS sent out a third plumbing company and that company said that they don't replace parts, just the whole water heater so they couldn't do anything for me either.
I've been pretty nice about it and I haven’t chewed the crap out of them, but I've had two weeks of dealing with it, having three plumbing companies and having the electrical contractors come out twice because I paid them to come out once and then American Home Shield had them come out a second time and they still confirmed that it was not an electrical issue.
Two of three times now, they've told me they've exhausted all of their resources and that I could pay to have a plumbing company of my choice come out and have it done, and then they would reimburse me. However, that doesn’t help if the whole point in buying a home warranty is, and they have it plastered all over the website, “Why pay for a contractor to come out and do the work when you pay us cheaper?” Why am I paying somebody do it and then get reimbursed a few months down the road? I called around eight different providers that told me they would be more than happy to take the credit card over the phone for payment, but they weren’t willing to invoice American Home Shield so AHS said that I had to pay for it upfront and then they’ll reimburse me. That’s not going to happen.
I've also been told eight times now that every time AHS sent a new contractor out, they applied charges to my account for $75. I paid for the first service call which hasn’t even been resolved yet and after the first two weeks of having to deal with this, I wouldn't let them charge anything else. I've seen that they tried to pop out on my account but it was going to be charged on a certain date. When I called them, they said they were going to remove it but they never did. So I went ahead and changed the account information and because they couldn’t charge it to the account, it's just a pending balance now. I've also gotten people tell me that those charges are going to be removed but every other day I still get an email telling me that I owe them $225.
It's been a month now and the issue still is not fixed yet. Every time I've called AHS, everybody has had an attitude and they've done nothing but say they would expedite it to a supervisor and send emails. Yet, no supervisor has called me back and whenever I call back in, they tell me they don't have a record of me requesting for a supervisor. Each time, I've told them the person before them had said, "Oh, there's no record of that, but I'm going to go ahead and put it in now.” Plus, I've recorded every conversation that I've had with them but I don’t really know what to do at this point.
On the 15th of this next month, I'm not renewing my monthly contract with American Home Shield. It's taking me a month to get hot water on again and I can't imagine what's going to happen if I had a circuit go out for electrical or if I had a roofing issue. Replacing an electrical circuit could cost us anywhere between $500 to $1,500 and it's only $300 to get the water heater issue replaced or working. If they can't handle something small like that, what's going to happen when something big comes up? I'm not going to be waiting a year for that.
Edward,

And I said, “No. You have to send somebody else because it’s not cooling.” They send another person and I had to pay another $100 and he said the same thing, “I don’t really see anything wrong with it.” And I said, “Is it just because my contract’s up in three weeks?” I’m not happy about.
I just wrote a letter about that other incident. AHS is very difficult to get in touch with. They never answered their phone and when you get through they put you on hold for about 45 minutes. They don’t have an email and they have absolutely no way to get in touch with them which is another reason I’m not renewing. Everybody says the same thing about them. And then, we got another one brought in and now, we’re finding that the new refrigerator, the freezer is not quite cold enough. My wife has called the helpline for the company, GE, and they told us to do some stuff but I don’t think it’s cooling enough. We might end up to get another one, on the GE warranty. But the Home Shield folks have been terrific all the way through. They have responded and reviewed the warranty several times. One time, I was on the phone with them for one hour 36 minutes and some seconds, and then I had to hang up. But the contractors have been nice and pretty good. They usually don't have to do a follow-up, but they did with my dryer. Two people had to come out and when the second one came out, he did good but the dryer broke again. He came out six times and did something different every time he came out, then he'd say "I got that fixed now." The AC runs when he's present, but 15 minutes after he's gone it was back to heat again. Those were days when the temperature was in the 90s in my area. He couldn't find anything wrong with the AC so my wife called AHS' office and told them to send somebody else out. We filed a claim for the air conditioner on a Wednesday at 10:00 PM and the house was over 85 degrees and American Home Shield wasn’t able to get anyone out to us until Monday. When the technician who AHS sent came he said that the motor needed to be replaced and he would have to return on Wednesday. That made it a week. When he came on Wednesday he told my wife that he replaced the motor and if she had any questions or if it stopped working, give him a call. Not even a minute after he left the property the unit didn't come on.
We had to have another company come out and it was Friday when the other company came, which put it at a week and three days that our problem has not been resolved. The new technician who came out mentioned that the initial technician never replaced anything. He pulled out the old original motor which was about 25 years old that was said to be replaced.
The second company called me on Sunday and they came out to our home and fixed the air conditioner and I haven't had any issues with my air conditioning since. Once the second company got everything fixed all my troubles were taken care of. Three dogs, one of which was 15 years old could have died. AHS should change their emergency procedures from 105 degrees down to 80 degrees like most home warranty companies do. But other than that everything's fixed.

They cleared out the line and went on their way. The claims representative have been responsive. The contractors have been good too. They range from those that are just deployed and work for somebody and others of the same job, a little bit higher level of concern.
There was one time where it took maybe two or three times to come out so it works for a while and then it didn't hold. It was within their callback period so they did come back. And then we've got one particular case where it took a third call and then after that with a different technician it was resolved. But we have always had resolution. We used AHS because we didn't know anybody in the area so it wound up being a way for us to get the service that we needed without having to go through trial and error of independent folks. We have recommended AHS to people. It's been a valuable service that we do use.

Every time, I have contacted American Home Shield to speak with an associate the wait time is not less than 30-45 minutes. The answering service will tell you to go to the website for assistance. This is unacceptable for a paying customer to have to wait so long to get any type of assistance. I have called in the morning and evening (holding right now for 25 minutes). Additionally, the warranty company does not hold Sears accountable for repairs to appliances. My tenants have been without a working refrigerator since 24 AUG 17.
Sears has sent someone to diagnose the problem and order parts- still inoperable. Contacted Sears to request an emergency repair work order and was told to contact American Home Shield to get an appointment for an emergency? Requested to see the policy on emergency work repairs and spoke to three different people that did not know the process for emergency repairs. The people working for Sears taking calls are clueless and not very helpful at all. My recommendation for this warranty company is to get rid of Sears as their contracting source.
Ms. Yancey,
Thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention. We want to ensure that we properly address that your tenants have not had a working refrigerator for almost a month. Getting my air-conditioner fixed was not a good process. I cringe when I have to call American Home Shield because I know I’m going to be on the phone waiting for at least half an hour. It's been awful. Part of that may be temporary, from what I understand. They were a little overwhelmed with the amount of calls they were getting. But that's my opinion. So I don't feel they're very customer supportive at this point. However, interacting with them was fine once you get them on the phone.
My AC wasn’t cooling. I had a company come out two or three times to "fix it" and a week later it would be bad again. There was a one-week period where it was continually 85 in my house. So after three tries, I called and said I wanted a different company to come out. And they came out and fixed it. I know it's an intermittent problem and those are difficult to pinpoint. One of the service people said, "I can't do anything if it's not malfunctioning right now. So you'll have to call me when it's malfunctioning. But then if you do, it's probably going to be two days before I can get to you." The people who come out are always very nice, however, they aren't always successful in fixing things. But once they fixed it, it's been doing great.
They have a discount plan when you buy an appliance and get information from them or get it through them. That's one of their benefits. I tried to get a hold of the department that helps with that and I was never able to get through to them, ever. So I went out and bought some stuff. I stay with them because of the feeling that if something goes wrong, I know who to call. I call them or I go through them and they find somebody to come to my house and do what's needed. I’ve been with them for years and years and I plan on continuing to be.

Upon return from vacation, our air conditioner stop working on our three year old system. We called AHS for the very first time on Sunday 7/16/17 when it was HOT as hell. I re-paid my $125 deductible to AHS. They contracted a company to my home who showed up the following day to diagnose the issue. The contractor stated that a part needed to be replaced and once the part comes in they would contact me. I was told the part would only take a few days to come in. Mind you I have two little boys in a hot second floor condo in the summer!!! I was contacted a few days later on 7/19/17 by AHS stating that when the contractor came out to my home to complete the work, I needed to pay an additional $105 for refrigerant (the excess charges that they would not be paying). Okay where's the part?? I was told by that same representative that the part was in and to contact the contractor to schedule a date to complete the work.
I called the contractor on 7/20/17 and of course no answer so I left a voicemail. The next day, I left another voicemail. No callback. I called AHS every day that following week and the week after taking hours being on hold before reaching a live person to find out what I have not been contacted/work has not been completed after paying my deductible already. I was told by several different representatives something different every time. The first rep was unable to reach the contractor and sent an email. No follow up. Second Rep said, "You need to contact the purchasing dep," transferred and then hung up. Third rep, "I will call you back with additional information..." Nothing. The fourth attempted to investigate but after being on hold to reach the rep for two hours... There was no hope to get in contact with anyone at that hour.
She returned my call however the following day and then I finally received a call from the contractor scheduling to come to my home that afternoon. I received another call from the contractor stating that they went to pick up the part after being contacted by AHS that it was there and warehouse has no idea where it is. The job cancelled. The following day after three and half weeks of trying to get air conditioning to my home was fixed. I can't even blame the contractor because I believe it is the responsibility of the AHS to reach out to me whom I pay faithfully every month. And then the next month August... My premium goes up a dollar without notification. Why I have no damn idea but I for sure will be canceling. I should have called long ago but I after working to help people with their own issues all day and to have to be on hold for hours to resolve an issue, I have no energy. They have truly lost respect and a customer.

The one claim that I had the biggest problem with American Home Shield was for a leaking shower. They called Mounts Plumbing and it took about a week for the plumber to come out. The shower was leaking a little bit and after they came in and "fixed it" and were about to leave, I went in there and it was still leaking. I had to call them back in because they were getting in their truck, and they came in. The plumber could see and hear that it's leaking so he said the problem couldn’t be the filter, the O ring, that they replaced, and that they would have to come back out and replace the entire system. So the cartridge, the handle, does everything, but they would have to turn it in for the claim to make sure it would, and they did that.
So, my boyfriend and I have called AHS and I don't remember the exact number but the fee was like $527. The number that American Home Shield told them was different than the number that AHS told us. The contractor kept saying it'll be a different amount and that American Home Shield would only pay $14 and we have to cover the rest because it was outside of the total amount. It didn’t make sense since the contractor messed up, and the only thing that they did was put the handle on upside down so the hot is now cold and the cold is now hot. When we asked them to come back and fix the handle, they refused to do it. They said it was outside of the warranty and they couldn't come out until American Home Shield approved it.
After going back and forth, I didn't trust these people to come back to my house and fix it when they broke it, to begin with, so I hired my own plumber who came in. He looked at it and he said that the plumber from Mounts had damaged the actual pipe. The cartridge should have fixed it and the O ring should have made the leak stop, but in the process, they damaged the pipes in the wall. I had to spend over $1,000 for my own plumber to repair the damage when he could see, visibly, that another plumber had been in there and had damaged it. It's brass, so there's no way one can damage that and it doesn't happen naturally.
We called Mounts and we also tried to ask them before going through American Home Shield since the experience was so bad. We're told them, "Can we just have you come out to the house as Mounts Plumbing and we'll call it even or we will pay you out of pocket-- a discounted rate and we won't go to Better Business Bureau. We won't say anything about your company." They refused to do that, too and they kept claiming they did nothing wrong. We called American Home Shield and my boyfriend talked to them for probably four hours and I've talked to them for many hours. Every time we called, they didn't have any notes from the previous conversations and they kept saying AHS only hires insured contractors like Mounts, so we would have to go through AHS.
Mounts is then saying that because we had another plumber in there, they can't prove that that plumber didn't do the damage and not them. The only option I would have is to take Mounts to small claims court, which I don't have the money to do when I just paid over $1,000 for the plumbing. During this whole process, every time I call AHS, I'm transferred to another person and they're denying. I didn't get a choice on plumbers and this plumber that AHS chose is horrible. I feel sorry for anybody else whoever has this plumber go out to their house.

I’ve had a good experience and didn't have any problems with American Home Shield in the 6 months I’ve been with them. It was fairly easy submitting a claim for my AC unit, and I didn’t have to wait on hold for long. The rep was polite and called the contractor to come out for me. He came out within 24 hours. He was polite and showed us what was wrong with it, as well as how to fix it the next time. It was that simple. He did great work and my AC is still working fine. I'll probably renew when it is up.
Tonia,
We look forward to you becoming a long-time customer with American Home Shield. I hope that the first six months has instilled confidence in our ability to serve your home with high standards.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about five years. I was with a different company before but they went out of business for this area so I had to pick another home protection policy and I picked American Home Shield. I called them yesterday morning for a claim on the refrigerator that just stopped working. I got a hold of a lady and she told me I would have more than a 30-minute wait time and I did. I stayed on the line but that was ridiculous. After telling her I have a Maytag refrigerator, she told me she’ll have a Maytag repairman come on Thursday between 8:00 and 12:00. It was a Tuesday morning when I called and I told her 8:00-12:00 is fine but Thursday won’t do as this was an emergency. I am a senior citizen, I have medicine and I got to have ice. But she said that’s all she could do for me so I didn’t have a choice.
Then the service people called yesterday evening and I asked if it would be okay if they moved me up to this morning, Wednesday. I told them I sure would appreciate it. So he is here right now working on the refrigerator and that made me feel better. But I have never had an AHS rep like that. Generally when I call them, I get very receptive reception. I've also had my hot water heater go out which was leaking through the ceiling and when I called, AHS had somebody come immediately, unlike how that rep acted on my claim on the refrigerator. The tech who came out said one more day and my whole house would have burned down because the heater was going to explode.

Last August, our dryer was not heating and it was a disruption when it happened. The contractor that American Home Shield sent out was on time and worked right at the problem. He was very efficient, pleasant and friendly, so it was a great experience. My wife said it was tough without the dryer, but once it got fixed, it's been fine. The repair really went well. We've been an AHS member for years and we had them in two different places. We've had good experiences in our main home in New York and we could have stayed with them there because it works out well. However, we haven't had good experiences with the contractors in our second house in California, and we're evaluating that all the time.

My air conditioner wasn't working right, so we filed a claim for it with American Home Shield. Submitting the claim online took long so I did it over the phone. The contractor they sent was good. He answered all the questions and explained to me why the air wasn’t coming out of this unit. He was proficient. Then I had to get some Freon. He told me that I have to pay for that. But other than that, it was good. I didn’t have any problems with them.

Being with American Home Shield has been convenient. I’ve had them for 17 years now. Around the 15th of August, I had a stoppage plumbing issue. Submitting the claim was fine. However, I had to wait an extremely long time to get someone to come to the phone because their system continued to indicate that I had an outstanding balance owed for a non-paid service which was incorrect. This was from my service back in June. A ticket was put in but it still has not been resolved. So I couldn't do the claim online because I assumed it will charge me for that, in addition to the service call that I was placing, which was why I had to call. I didn't want to lose my place, so I held on the phone and transferred it to my cell phone when I had to leave and continued to hold for two hours. But their representative was fine and the contractor was great. We have not had any more plumbing issues since the repair.

I submitted an online claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning. The contractor who came out was easy to deal with. He came in, took care of business and he was gone. Although I haven’t had problems dealing with AHS, one of the companies I used before this last one was pretty slow. I have the worst service since I've been with home insurance. I am not happy at all. I'm looking for a different company to switch from American Home Shield. I have a problem with my cooktop for over two months and still, my problem is not solved. I called over 10 times and was told every time that they will call me back but they never did. I had to call back again.
One of the parts of the cooktop got burned so they ordered it. They assigned a technician who came three times to my home. He was a good guy but every time he comes, he has the wrong part. At one point, because they could not find the correct part, I was told when I called that American Home Shield will replace my cooktop and then I was told that they are not going to replace it so they will have to search for the part. I don't know how long it will take them to search for it or to find out if it's available or not. I will not recommend them to anybody.

I had a water line breakdown in my basement. I called American Home Shield and told them what’s going on and the reps were very courteous. The contractor was out the next day. They got everything out of the room, dried out the carpet and put in huge fans. Then they put everything back down and put the quarter round back around the carpet. The people they’ve got lined up have always been excellent and got the job done. I've never been disappointed in who they sent out here. Certain things like if they come in, they’ll take their shoes off or put their little booties on their shoes, those little things and it's always been that way. Also, I had to replace the dishwasher and I got the same as what was in there with a different model. They came out and hooked everything up, and it was a good deal. The service was fantastic every time I've called them. I got American Home Shield when we moved in and I kept renewing.

We have had AHS coverage the first year after purchasing each of our homes and only used it for the very first house. We have never renewed our coverage, and was surprised when I received a call trying to get us to renew. The saleslady was friendly enough. She dove right into her sales pitch as soon as I told her we were not planning on renewing. She gave the normal doom and gloom scenarios anyone selling insurance is going to give, and I'll admit caused me to pause and reconsider my position.
After putting together a quote I asked for an email so I could discuss with my husband... as he has every right to be involved with financial decision-making. The first negative experience happened here as she proceeded to tell me she could but my husband wasn't going to be happy with the monthly fee. Problem #1... she doesn't know my husband, and the fact she tried pushing me into making a decision without talking with him was rude and disrespectful. Despite the comment I ensured her that we would discuss and she could call me back the next day.
Fast forward to today and Problem #2... when I answer the phone she is pleasant, until I tell her we are not going to renew. She proceeded to be extremely pushy and talked down to me. Listening to her you would expect our 25 year old house to crumble to dust tomorrow. I tried giving her more explanation than she deserved that we were making an informed decision. After her pushy tactics I finally told her we were not going to renew and nothing she was saying was going to change my mind. She responded "I guess you will have to learn the hard way." I'm disgusted that any company would allow its employees to use such tactics to try to gain business.
She was rude, insulting and didn't listen to me at all. I refuse to do business with any company that tries to get me to make decisions behind my husband's back. I refuse to do business with any company that stoops to wishing negative experiences on me just so I can "learn the hard way". I hope AHS takes a good look at their customer service department and discourages this type of behavior. I wonder how many people have been bullied into buying coverage.

This is a fraudulent company. Over $700 was paid for this warranty for my home... however, after I moved in I've had so many problems in my home and this warranty is a total nightmare. They keep you on hold for several hours at a time, hang up on you, do not return calls and charge you $75 for every item you have trouble with never repairing anything. Always looking for an "excuse" to wiggle their way out of not covering anything in your home... Even the plumber they sent out said they were a scam and a dirty operation. Impossible to reach them by phone or by email or on their website. They hope that you get tired and give up yet they're pocketing millions of dollars illegally.
It will all catch up to them trust me. My pipes leak... I get no hot water. They will not help me whatsoever. I have spent over 14 hours on the phone over one week trying to reach somebody and every time they take my information nothing is done or they get it absolutely wrong and nobody ever attempted to call or anything. I filed a claim with AHS because I had to get something done with my air conditioner. I really liked the contractor who came for my AC. They were very knowledgeable with what they're doing. The AC was up and running and that was the best part of all the whole situation I went through. The process was complicated only because of the companies that American Home Shield deals with were not really reliable. Also, everything was fine with their representatives. The one that made me uncomfortable was the person that I had to speak with when I cancelled. He said, "You can't come back anymore. You have to start this all over again." It was not necessary to do all that talk to me because I'm a customer. That's when I completely said that I'll never come back with American Home Shield.
AHS should think of change and verify backgrounds of people that they do business with because it’s not only me. When you look at the references of some people, the attitudes are bad and the services might not be good. They have to look on one to the next just to see if they do the work correctly. With AHS, you should always get a second choice, look at the ratings and verify the experiences with other people you know.

The process of making the initial call to this very moment was absolutely painless and effortless on my part, even remarking to my wife and neighbors how very much I appreciated it. The contractors were not local. The local plumbers are very high-priced and don't afford themselves a very good reputation. I feared that I would be in contact with one of the local people that I would not want to do work in my home. And instead, it was someone I didn’t know from a neighboring town. They replaced some old damaged pipes with new ones. It was done so quickly and there were no issues at all. It was absolutely wonderful. Because I had a problem for a couple of years, and I finally thought I’m going to buy a new unit because nobody could fix it. But the last one that came out from Mr. Fix It, fixed it. They got another provider to come out and they did a good job on the dryer. They are called the Appliance Connection and I was very pleased with the young man that came out. But we’re still waiting for his next visit once the transmission part comes in for the washer. The representatives have all been very nice and helpful. My only complaint is there is usually a long wait before you get to an agent. And I’m talking an hour. Overall it’s been generally a good and satisfactory experience working with American Home Shield. I'm really disappointed with my most recent claim with American Home Shield. One guy came in and he said the problem with the ceiling fan was not their fault and they were not going to fix it. We got a second opinion but I never heard anything from the second guy who came in and yet they're charging me $100. That is unfair because they did not fix it and I'm not going to pay for it. They're also supposed to be more pleasant in getting back to me considering the response from the electrician. On the other hand, the contractor who worked on the dishwasher was very professional and the dishwasher has been good since the repair. American Home Shield is an excellent company overall and I would stick with them.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield for my dishwasher was not very good. The number one reason was the time I spent waiting. I called and I was told I would be on hold for an hour and this was early in the afternoon. I called three more times and gave up that day. The next morning when I called I was immediately told I would be on hold for an hour but in ten minutes they answered and it's ridiculous. I've got a feeling that AHS wants me to go through the computer and not the phone but I'm computer illiterate and I have dry macular degeneration so I'm not seeing as well as I used to.
AHS first sent Sears service call and the man came out and he said I need a plumber. He worked for over an hour and replaced some things under there and did all he could. When I went to write the check he said there's no charge but I owe $75 service fee. It says right on the receipt, “no charge" so I didn't pay him. Then AHS sent out the plumber and again he did an excellent job. He was here for about an hour, got it all fixed and that's running great. Then I got emails from AHS saying I owed $75. I called Sears and I said that there was no service charge and then I called AHS back and told them that.
AHS said there was a charge but they’ll check on it. Then they called me back and said I was right and that I didn’t owe anything. It was just a horrible hassle. After 20 years as a member of AHS, I've never had trouble like that. They’d always get someone out here right away, they’d fix the problem, and I’d pay my fee and everything's great. I've had a microwave, two ceiling fans, a refrigerator and now my dishwasher. They fixed the refrigerator and replaced the microwave and the two fans. In my old house, they replaced the furnace and I've just been so pleased with AHS until this one time. But my dishwasher is working perfectly now and the service people were great. They were here on time, they're polite, thorough and experienced and I love them all. Overall my experience with AHS was mostly excellent. I had a bad experience but I'm happy.

My most recent claims experience was for the washing machine. The repair guy didn’t explain a whole lot but dealing with Home Shield was great. The claims rep helped me with all my questions since I was new to them. She was very good, nice and friendly. At first, the repair guy thought he was going to have to bring somebody else in and that he wasn’t going to be able to do the job himself. Then he decided that he could. Eventually, he decided that we needed a pipe from where the city is and then where it came into the house. That helped but he didn’t explain much while he was working. We had to spend $3,000 to get a pipe brought in and replaced from the city into the house, and that was the one part that Home Shield didn’t cover. We had an issue with our air conditioner so we submitted a claim for it online. AHS got back to us pretty quickly but the contractor that came out had a questionable behavior. He was very quirky, kept telling me things that didn’t make sense and not explaining it in a way I could understand. I was really glad I wasn’t in my house alone as it was not a comfortable experience. The company that initially came out was wanting to do a lot more stuff even though they fixed the initial problem. They started telling us that if we didn’t do what they're saying, our home warranty won’t be covered.
So I called American Home Shield to tell them about our experience and they were very slow to respond. I have spent in excess of 30 minutes on hold before I got to talk to anyone, and several times I had to hang up. But when I finally connected with the gentleman by the name of Darrel, he asked me lots of questions and talked me through everything that happened with our initial experience. He recommended that we get a second opinion. I agreed with him and told him that we will stick by whatever the second opinion is. If they say it needs more work, then it needs more work. If it doesn’t, then we’re done. So, I was very happy that they made that recommendation and overall, I felt protected with American Home Shield.

We had a dryer problem so we called American Home Shield and they arranged to have ProTech people to come. The ProTech came and did a couple of things, but when they left we still had the problem so we called them back. They told us that they need another part and have to order it. We went back and forth for three weeks and they kept saying they were going to come back but they never did. They were rude, incompetent, and kept making promises that they had no intention of keeping. Then every time I called Home Shield I got to wait in line and wait until I finally get through, and then they go through it. They finally realized that repair people were not going to come back and repair our dryer so they arranged for a Sears repairman to come out, which he did.
The Sears technician knew what he was doing and he fixed the dryer. But the same time, our washer was not working properly and we asked him to take a look at it. He determined that it needed a part and it was old so it would not be replaced. We needed to get a new washer. Now, everything seems to be working fine as we got a new washer and the dryer is fixed. We had to pay the two service fees with just $275, which is appropriate because one time was a washer, the dryer the next, then the washer after that.
American Home Shield would make it better if they were more careful with their subcontractors that come and repair. They should have had someone who knew what they're doing in the first place. Also, if there was a better phone service, we'd get through quicker. I understand they have a backlog and I got to wait in line a little bit but a couple of times, I waited 45 minutes just to get through to somebody. That is much longer than I feel it should. Still, American Home Shield is a good service.

He was right on time, knew what was wrong, got the air up, and took care of it. He called me after American Home Shield got in touch with him. He explained everything to me on what he was doing and how he was going fix it. It was working fine since I got it fixed.
However, previously from this incident, I had called for my garage door. The person they sent out didn’t know what he was doing. I called back and said that the guy didn’t fix the problem. Then they sent him back out again. He didn’t fix it the first time, what do I think he’s going to do the second time? Then they said, “We can’t send anyone else out.” The second time they sent him out, he still didn’t fix the problem. I said, “Look. Don’t send him back out to my home anymore.”
So, they finally sent someone out and said, “Hey. What this guy did was nothing. He didn’t do anything. He took a screw loose, put it back, that’s all he did. You need a new garage door opener.” This time, I really shouldn’t have paid for the service because the girl that I talked to was supposed to give me my deductible back, but it wasn't in the system so I had to pay another deductible. I had problems with American Home Shield and I'm not very pleased with them. They take my money but then they don’t give me the service.

I had a claim with my air conditioner not working so I was told that I would be contacted by a local company within 24 hours. I finally got in contact with a company that they were coming out to take a look at the problem and get it resolved. I let them know that it was on a workday so I would not be home but my daughter who was over 18 would be there. I told them exactly what the issue was. They acted like they understood it completely. The technician who came out was there less than two to three minutes. He did not go down to my basement where the unit is. He went outside, looked at the outside unit for a second, said that it looked fine, came in, told my daughter to just put the temperature down and it would start cooling off. There didn't seem to be any issue and he wanted a $100 copay.
So my daughter gave it to him. I was on the phone right as he was leaving so I told my daughter to make him stop because nothing had been resolved. He left. I tried calling the company. It was closed because it was a Saturday. One can’t get through to American Home Shield unless they're willing to wait at least an hour on the phone because that’s the wait time. It’s really ridiculous. I don't know how many attempts I did before I finally got in touch with someone. I explained everything that happened. They told me that they would send that company out again. I said I didn’t want that technician in my house because he did nothing and knew nothing.
No one contacted me so I again went through all that effort to make contact with American Home Shield, all to learn that they gave my problem to another company because the company that had come out when I said that I didn’t want that technician back at my house is the head technician so they didn’t have anybody else to send. So American Home Shield contacted another company and sent them out. That company came out with the clear understanding that I was not paying another copay. The technician assessed the problem and within five minutes he found out what the problem was. He corrected it and within less than 30 minutes he was on his way.
I spent another hour on the phone with American Home Shield the first time I got an invoice and I explained the whole thing. The rep said it was an error on their part that it was sent out. She told me to disregard it. So since then, I have been getting e-mails and invoices with a delinquent bill for the $100 copay for the second company that came out to the point where I’m ready to cancel my contract with American Home Shield. They are not a good company. They’re horrible.
Ms. Voyton,
American Home Shield strives to fix the problem the first time. It doesn't sound like we accomplished that on your recent a/c work order. We are delighted to hear that you now have an a/c that is working properly. We will be contacting you soon to correct the billing issue, as we don't want you to have to call in and hold again to discuss the situation. We are going to take care of you!

I’ve been with American Home Shield for over 20 years in different houses. I submit my claims online and it’s been easy. They’ve sent me some good contractors but some of them are one-man operation and it takes a long time to get service sometimes. I recently filed a claim for a fuse on the stove that went out. The guys that they sent were good but I’m disappointed that they don’t have access to quick parts, so they’ve got to order parts and it took five days to get the thing fixed.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for my washing machine. I'm old-fashioned and I like to talk to a person and not a machine but don't like the wait time when I'm trying to call in. I've started submitting online because it's a lot faster and setting up an appointment online is cool because it is easy. AHS sent a contractor and I tried to explain to them that they needed to order the control panel, which is the LED screen that was cracked. But they ordered the cover to the control screen, which is a big plastic piece. I told them that that wasn't where the crack was and it's not on the exterior plastic part but in the actual LED screen. I had to wait five weeks for that to all transpire until they got the right part. They didn't listen to me the first time but they were fine as far as the personality.
One of the things with American Home Shield is that I don't feel like that I should have to pay the $75 if the guy comes out and he says that there's nothing wrong with my appliances. If there is something wrong then I'd feel more justified in paying the $75 fee. I get that American Home Shield is trying to run a business but I feel that's a little bit unfair because I already pay a monthly premium.

The reps were professional and courteous when I called to submit a claim, and the process was easy. My son dealt with the contractors and he was able to tell me exactly what happened. If a 16-year-old can tell me everything that went on, then the contractors did pretty well. Later we had something else that went wrong with the dryer, but they came out and fixed it and it's been great since then. Overall it pays to have American Home Shield.

We’ve had American Home Shield for about a month now and when we had a problem with the toilet, I went online and filed a claim. Their website was easy to use. The plumber then called and set up the appointment. He came out within 24 hours and fixed the problem. It went very smoothly. We also had a refrigerator issue initially and it was the same thing. The technician got back to us at that same day. He needed a part, came back the next day and fixed it. My AHS warranty has worked great and I appreciate having it.

I had two claims at the same time with American Home Shield. One was to fix the dishwasher and the other one was to repair the faucet in the master tub. AHS handled the initial call really well and both contractors were good. The guy who did the dishwasher had missed some stuff in the pump but he came right back and took care of it. AHS covers plumbing and the only thing I was concerned about was with the bathtub. If you take the faucet off, there's water gushing everywhere, so it's got to be part of the plumbing. But they wouldn't cover it and it cost me a ton of money. But everything works well since the repairs. And overall, AHS has always been quick to answer the phone and to handle whatever issues we had. They've been a good company to work with.

Our air conditioning stopped working in the middle of summer during 90 degree days. A tech came out the day I requested service and identified a bad heat exchanger on the furnace and recommended a full replacement. 3 weeks went by and the tech did not receive parts from American Home Shield. When I called I requested to speak with a manager. They said, "A manager will only speak with you by calling you back within 24 hours." 48 hours later and still no call. I had to call back and they tried to sign me up for another manager call back.
Even after telling them I'm still waiting for a call back they refused to let a manager speak with me. I told them I would hold until management was available. An hour and a half later they hung up on me. I am currently still waiting for replacement furnace. I highly recommend not using American Home Shield. Seems like a scamming company to me. I threatened legal action and still no management correspondence. Will probably sue company over family welfare.
Mr. Smith,

I called American Home Shield to have a hot water tank fixed and the rep scheduled the appointment. Then the plumber contacted me for the dates that he would actually be coming out. The first time he came, he just did an observation and then had to come back with the parts. It's been great since the repair. That said, I don't like the fact that they come out and then have to come back. I’ve already told them what the problem was.
When I called about the hot water tank, the rep asked me, "Was the water coming out of the top of the tank or the bottom of the tank?" I said, "The bottom of the tank.” They knew that it had to be replaced. I'm a woman and I knew that. But why did you have to send this man out here? Also, it cost me $475 to replace this tank. Why? What's the purpose of having this issue after I paid that kind of money?
Another thing was when I had things breaking down one thing after the other. I was really frustrated because I called them about my ice maker leaking water. If you are an appliance person, you automatically know that the ice maker needed to be replaced. So, why didn't they just bring an ice maker that day? They send someone out and then they have to come back and me being a self-employed hairstylist, I don't have time to keep changing appointments. All in all, though, it was a good experience.

My programmable WiFi thermostat has been having issues that caused the air conditioner to stop working. I called to file a claim to American Home Shield and I had a very professional interaction with the rep over the phone. It took them a day or two to send someone out but that was at a time when it was hot here and air conditioning was in high demand so it didn't surprise me. The contractor who came was very professional as well. He called ahead to let me know that he was running late and when he arrived, he did a pretty good job of explaining the problem. I was a little skeptical but it turned out he was right.
He made a temporary repair while he circled back to get approval to put the same type of thermostat that was back in place. That was very convenient that he was able to restore the AC on his first visit. When he came back the second time, he essentially replaced the WiFi thermostat with one of equal quality. I was pleased he was able to do that. I had an American Home Shield contract at a previous home and that was a good experience there as well.

My experience with the AHS reps was better, but they're also abrupt.
The insurance company said they're not going to cover the first claim, so I paid $5,000, while they covered the second one for a long time. For the third one, they said it's the gas and I have to pay it, so I paid it. The gas was leaking again the next day and I have to call AHS back. The claim is still open and the tech hasn't been back since a month ago. Overall, it took much longer to get my air conditioner fixed than I could have on my own. The sinks are running slow in my house on Park. There's some stoppage and there's regurgitation up into the toilets and the showers. Raw sewage is coming back up into the shower. Yesterday, the plumber came, looked around and wasn't able to find a cleanout access. He explained that without cleanout access, American Home Shield wouldn't cover it. He then left and I called them back because I talked to somebody here who told me that there is a cleanout access on the south side of the house. I called the plumber back, his name is Spencer, and he was going to call me back but I haven't heard from him yet. This problem is now getting to be two months old.
Submitting a claim, originally, was very easy but I placed the order back in July and nobody ever called me. Interestingly enough, I have two properties with American Home Shield and had put in claims for both properties. The plumber who came out for Twelve Oaks was not the one that had been assigned to Park. Yesterday, it was the plumber from Twelve Oaks who came. So Spencer and I recognized each other and then went from there. Also, I called earlier this week because the air-conditioning went out on Park. I called for a referral to Harkins AC Heating and Controls because they know the house and they know the system and they are members of American Home Shield. So, AHS sent the dispatch to them and I called on Tuesday morning. They sent somebody out Tuesday afternoon.
My experience with American Home Shield has been great. My concern is that there wasn't any follow up as to whether or not the official contractor has even contacted us. The two plumbers that I talked to were unfortunately sent to two different addresses. The one that came to Twelve Oaks to fix the water heater is the one who ended up showing up yesterday at Park for the plumbing issue, which was not the original assigned plumber. I would definitely recommend AHS, though. This now makes my third home with them.

Sunday night 9/10/17 our water heater went out. Wife initiated contact with AHS via internet. They arranged for a local plumber to contact us. The following morning 9/11/17, plumber was able to come out and assess the problem. Was told the water heater was old and beyond repair, leaking water etc. no longer working (it was 12 years old), needed to be changed with a new one. I agreed.
As the repair person waited a great length to contact AHS and advise them of the problem, I looked online at new water heaters. The repair person had said that AHS gets the water heaters at Lowe's/Home Depot and that I would have to get a smaller capacity tank, they no longer have any over 50 gals. for residential use. The bigger ones are for commercial use and very expensive. I saw that both Lowes/Home Depot had water heaters that would fit into the space I had for my old water heater. Several brands (A O Smith and Rheem) some with a 6 year warranty and others with a 12 year warranty. I went out to the plumbers truck while waiting on hold with AHS and told him that I guessed AHS would get the cheapest model for replacement and that I would be willing to pay out of pocket for the better water heater with the 12 year warranty. He said I would need to talk with them about that.
I went back inside and waited. After some time he finished the call with AHS and came back to the house. He said that AHS would contact me about the water heater and left. After several hours I called AHS and waited for 90 minutes for them to come on the line. I told them I was being proactive after having not heard back from them about the repair/replacement of my water heater. I was told that the repair person had said I didn't like the model they would provide and wanted a cash out so I could buy my own and then pay for the labor fees for installation myself. NOT TRUE. The outside dimensions of the cheaper tank 6 year warranty or the Cadillac tank 12 year warranty were the same. Both would fit in my space provided without any upgrades or changes. Bottom line, because I wanted to pay for the better water heater, it threw the repair into [suspense].
Would be several days for them to review and act on this, meanwhile, NO hot water for my family. I just wanted to get a better model that may provide enough hot water for my family since the larger capacity water heater was no longer available. AHS said they have no idea when the plumber could get the water heater and/or install it. I told AHS that every time I had used their service warranty contract, some snafu had come up.
Wait time to get them on the phone, horrendous. Them locating someone to repair the problem, especially with aerobic septic systems, horrendous. They don't care about the homeowner/policy holder or how much inconvenience you may be experiencing. Bottom line, I went and bought a water heater on my own. Contacted another plumber and set up a convenient time for installation on my own. Canceled my warranty service agreement with AHS. Save yourself the hassle and frustration. Shoddy company.
Mr. Kirkpatrick,

I was mislead to believe that my home warranty would cover all repairs to my home, the only out of pocket would be 75.00 Service fee. They sent me confirmation of the warranty but never sent me any other documents. I am a realtor and was encouraging people to use this since I had been explained that it was great coverage. I was never told that there was a limit to bringing the home up to codes requirements which since my water heater went out 2 days ago I found out they cover that up to 250.00 only and the contractor says that's going to cost 400.00. So out of pocket that's 150.00. Plus the other items one totaling 75.00, the other 325.00, and 185 for copper pipes to be added to the home. Out of Pocket 335.00 plus the 75.00 Service fee for a total of $410.00. I am not a happy person that I was lied to by the sales department.
With them lying to me I have had one of my client's purchase the warranty on their home. Now, I am going to appear like I didn't give them the correct information. This part makes me angry as I have a passion for my career and I love helping my clients in every way I can. Now, it appears I did something I did not mean to by giving my client the wrong information. Now, going through the process, I now learned how this is and I was about to order another policy for a buyer this week and now looking at other companies.
You cannot expect for me to refer anyone to this company because they mislead me to believe something that is not true. I was never sent the contract and I was the realtor and the buyer on my home. I still don't have a copy and its nothing they have you agree to or sign. Just to include being on hold for an hour before speaking to anyone on the phone about this issue. It's still not resolved. Cant speak to a supervisor due to the hurricane. Their were only 3 people there today. They were just like, "Oh well get over it and pay it." That's not what I was told and I finding this frightening. What else were they hiding. I wish I would have went with the other company. I compared them two now as I have a friend state they have done everything they told him they would do.
Mr. Simpson,

I got American Home Shield when I closed on this house on August 1st and we've had five claims since then. Three of those are individual claims and the others were just following up on issues that needed resolution. It’s relatively easy to submit a claim. The only issue that I ran into was when I had a claim that hasn’t been marked as complete on their end and I needed to call them out for something. I couldn't go online and submit a request. I had to call and the wait times were ridiculous.
One day I had to call three times because I’m a traveling nurse and I spend a lot of time on the road so I would call while I was driving and I’d be on hold for 30 minutes to an hour. Then I would get to where I was going and have to hang up, and then I would have to call back and start all over. I’ve also tried calling at different times of the day and it always takes a long time, but I understand that they probably have people calling them from all over. But once I finally got in touch with somebody, it was a positive experience. Other than that, I had some coverage issues for things that weren’t covered but I understand that they can’t cover everything because then they probably wouldn’t stay in business with the amount of money they'd have to shell out for that.
My most recent claim was for a leak I noticed not long after I moved into the house, but I think it had been an ongoing issue that was ignored. I called American Home Shield and they had to come out a few times ‘cause there were a couple of things that were missed initially but they made up for it. The owner of the plumbing company that represents AHS in my area is a really nice, knowledgeable and helpful guy. I wasn’t too happy with a couple of the people that he sent out but they ended up fixing this most recent problem and I think that they stepped up their game. They did a good job and they were nice and friendly too.

We were not able to rectify the problem but the contractors were responsive and they're still working on my pumps. However, there needs to be a better understanding of what's covered under their contract and how they determine what that coverage is from a consumer's perspective. But, the experience with AHS has been pretty good.

We had a vendor from American Home Shield come out for the toilet. It was a plumbing incident and we felt it was an emergency which it was. The toilet started to flow causing contaminated water to go from our bathroom to our master closet. It created damage and we couldn’t get it to stop. The American Home Shield rep on the phone was there but was unsupportive of what I was trying to tell her. She told to tell me that they didn't do emergency claims. I told her where the last time I filed an emergency claim, somebody called and got somebody on the phone for me and handled the situation. She was not willing to do that. She would just leave a message for the vendor and they’ll call me back within 24 hours.
The vendor was nice enough to call me right back and I told him the situation. He came right out and did a great job, but there was no help from American Home Shield. They were useless. Once the vendor got the contaminated water stopped, we ended up spending more money to correct the situation. I had other incidents that I wasn’t pleased with, but I've dealt with it because of my laziness to research other options. At this point I've been with them for 10 years or more. I haven't gotten around to cancelling them yet but we've been searching for another direction to go as far as home warranty people.
I also got people that work in my office who have them and they said they're leaving them. One said he's leaving because of the way he was treated and that AHS didn't even render a service yet, but they wanted him to pay upfront. That’s not cool with me so I'm done. AHS has changed over the years. It's not customer-friendly anymore but more vendor-friendly. It's now more contractor-friendly.

And they answer all our questions about that. We've been trying to fix the AC every summer like two or three times and it's always been solved.

I just had American Home Shield out for my air conditioner. I can't ever get them online and that's my only complaint with them. I have to leave it on hold and let my iPhone sit for an hour or so. I submitted the claim by phone and they were good. I called and left the speaker on and I did it when they answered. They suggested a local person. I looked him up and I did not want him out to my house. I called back and requested another guy. I asked them if he was on the list and the rep said, “Oh, yeah,” so I’m very happy with that. The contractor who came was very good. It was Delta Mechanical here in Marion. They’re very high and reputable. My air conditioner has been good since the repair. It just needed freon. I’ve been pleased with American Home Shield.

He was great and very efficient.
We had another issue with overflow of our hot water heater. A friend of ours recommend a plumber that came out and helped us find the regulator that wasn’t working. It was buried in the yard and he was able to find and replace it. So now we’re good to go. American Home Shield talked us through the issue and they were able to get a guy out here. But they need to get more contractors to work on appliances because they have only used one in the Birmingham area.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 10 years and I recently had some issues which I called them for. My initial complaint was the toilet and then a few days later it became the sink in the bathroom. I went through their automated system and it assigned a sewer company. Because of the bathroom, they thought it was a sewer issue. I called and spoke with a live person and she went ahead to send the sewer company out. I told her that I was concerned as to whether they were sending the right person but she told me that whatever I needed to have done, that company would be able to take care of it. When the guy came out, he told me he is not a plumber. He ran the auger down the toilet and didn’t get anything. That was the most that he could do and told me I needed a plumbing company. I called back to AHS and told them that.
AHS sent Certified Plumbing & Drain Specialists and they're a wonderful company. They got really good people who did outstanding work. There was something wrong with the toilet and the guy fixed it. They also noted of another issue which they referred to as the stack in the basement. It’s the sewer line that goes from the bathtub and everything else and goes to take the sewage outside of the home. He did an inspection of that and took photos which he submitted and AHS has approved to have the toilet seat replaced.
I was very disappointed as far as calling in and having to schedule the claim with my computer. It took me a while to do that as well as to get to a live person. When customers are calling in, it’s probably best for us to speak with a live person to make sure that AHS is not sending the wrong resources out. But in my case, as soon as they learned that they sent the wrong guys, they sent the right person out and they got the job done. I’m very satisfied with the service, the price, and with American Home Shield overall.

I purchased a home and got the American Home Shield warranty with it. We had a pressing issue about a leak from the piping into the basement so I contacted AHS and filed a claim to get that problem fixed. I did it over the phone and it was fairly simple. They gave me a couple of options to pick from. They asked me if it was taping or some other issue and it was easy to decipher exactly how to put it to them so that they knew what they were coming out to look at.
However, the first contractor was very unprofessional and was a nightmare. I talked to American Home Shield about that and they were actually really great at resolving the issue for me. They sent out a new contractor, who fixed everything when they said they would and I haven’t had a problem since. I had also spoken with Kendrick, who was a great representative for American Home Shield and I would give him recognition. He was very much a gentleman. He took care of the problem and went above and beyond my expectations for it. He was very effective, especially at communicating and making sure I also knew what he was putting into effect. He also followed through with what he said and I received an e-mail just like he told me I would. Plus, he told me I could call if there was something more he could do to resolve the situation.

I had American Home Shield when I had my house before. This is my second house and they're no longer the same. I had a main drain stoppage and I submitted the claim by phone and online. I thought doing it online would help make the claim quicker but it didn’t. American Home Shield called a couple of people out but the plumbers couldn’t get out the next day. My whole house was stopped up and it was three or four days before AHS finally sent Myers out to unstop my main drain. The plumber was very professional though. He took care of what I had to get taken care of and everything is back to normal now.
American Home Shield is a good company, but they need more improvement. They need to have somebody on standby at all times for emergencies. They don’t have a lot of vendors that stay on call for 24 hours and it would help out a lot if they had more than two plumbers who do. My experience with them could have been better.

I’ve had American Home Shield for four years now on a condo that I am renting out. I've been pretty happy with the service up until the incident we had in May with the air conditioner. They sent a contractor who said that due to American Home Shield's policy, the first thing that they have to do was check the coolant levels. If they see those numbers are wrong, they would fill it and charge at a discounted rate. And so we did that. Then they said I should call them back if there’s any problem. Two months later, the air conditioner was not blowing cold again. I called and they came out, found that there was a bad part and they had to replace it. And then, I got a call and they were asking for $125 for service call. I told them I’m not going to pay yet because there are things I don't understand.
So I went back to American Home Shield and told them what happened, they said I’m a few days over the 30-day window for recall policy. But that’s because the guy had to follow their policy, he didn't look at anything else except the coolant numbers. He could have identified what was wrong had he not been limited by what he can do. And it doesn’t make sense because the coolant level could be low because there's a bigger problem. Then, if it's just outside of that 30-day window, even if there’s a leak somewhere, coolant can get you through 30 to 60 days or whatever the callback time is. The rep said there's nothing I can do and there's probably nothing the supervisor's going to do but she still asked me if I want a call back and I said I would. That was a couple of weeks ago and I haven't gotten a call yet.
So now, I'm paying the HVAC company the $125 plus the coolant charge. And they want another $125 because they found a different problem, which they could have found if they had taken a full diagnostic look at the system. The air conditioner is for my tenant who’s an older lady and I haven’t received any complaints about it so far. But now we're in cooler weather and she only started complaining when it was getting 100 degrees here in St. Louis.
Apart from this recent one, my claim experiences with American Home Shield have been fine. I've done the claim online and through the automated voice, and both were pretty easy. They’ve sent out contractors who were helpful and friendly. I had a furnace go out before, which was probably a $4,000 expense, and I wouldn't have had four grand to replace it. It ended up costing me only five hundred bucks out of pocket because I had American Home Shield. So, they've done well in the past, just beware of the fine print.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about four years now and I tell people about them all the time. If there’s something that needs to be repaired, they will come and fix it. If they can’t repair, they will replace. It’s also a good thing that the customers have the option of upgrading and paying the difference. I filed a claim with them because my old refrigerator went out. I called on the phone at first and then my daughter helped me to do it online. The repairman came and he couldn't fix the refrigerator. He said the parts of that fridge, and even the actual fridge, were not being sold anymore.
Their reps told me how we’d go about the issue and where the replacement fridge would be delivered from. They gave me an approximate date too. They also had called from where the fridge was coming from and gave me the time. It was a pleasant experience talking to their reps, who were able to answer all my questions as well. The delivery guys were also on time and courteous. In a matter of a few minutes, they were able to take the old fridge out and put the new fridge in. I told them, "When you know what you're doing, it doesn't take very long." I love the new refrigerator, it’s just taking a little bit of getting used to.

We received the home warranty when we purchased our home. Within a month, the dishwasher was no longer working correctly. After submitting a claim online (August 5, 2017), we waited over a week and didn't hear anything from American Home Shield. So we called multiple times. Finally, we were able to wait long enough to get a representative on the phone. We waited on hold for OVER AN HOUR. The contractor assigned to the job NEVER contacted us.
We called American Home Shield back, again we waited over an hour. Finally, the job was rescheduled with a different contractor. The contractor came out, my husband verbally described the problem, the contractor never turned on the dishwasher or even examined it. He took a picture of the product label. He said we needed some kind of part based on my husband's description. He ordered the part. A week later he returned and replaced the part. The dishwasher is STILL not working.
We've called the contractor and American Home Shield and have left messages but NOTHING. We've waited on hold for HOURS, literally. Our messages have not been answered and our dishwasher is still broken. This has been a terrible experience. Then we received a notice last week from American Home Shield that said the claim had been completed. It's NOT complete and it's been over a month since the claim was submitted.

My family had American Home Shield at their home and it helped them out a lot. So they pressured me to go with American Home Shield. It's a lot of money upfront that I almost secretly hope something's broken already and I get my money for it. I recently had a claim with American Home Shield to fix a stovetop. That was pretty smooth. The technician arrived on time. He had to scrape away a lot of old dirt from the stovetop. He was quiet and polite, and did his work. It's still not perfect but he fixed it. It was a very quick experience.
Then I tried to do a different claim but I wasn't sure if it fits the contract. For the second situation, I had an inspector at the house for an electrical thing for something separate. I was told I had to get a new outlet because it was unsafe. Now, I didn't know if it's counted as broken or not working. The person on the phone the second time wasn't very helpful because he wanted me to spend a $100 co-pay with the possibility that it wouldn't be following the contract and then I would be spending a $100 for no reason.
I wish the person who picked up the phone had a technical background. It was just someone copying down what I said. In the end, it technically wasn't broken according to the contract, but I was trying to find out before I spend the $100 co-pay. So I canceled that second claim. I just wanted a clear answer and I felt very uncomfortable that second time around. Except for this instance, it has been quick. Right after I do a claim, I get a text right away and I'm pretty impressed with that. I'm satisfied with it overall, it's an efficient system. I just wish it was a little cheaper.

I have American Home Shield for several years now. I usually make a call to submit a claim and within a day or so, I hear from the company and the company will decide on the next few days what’s going to be a convenient date and time for them to come out when I’m going to be home. I called AHS recently to submit a claim on my lights. I have two lights on each side of the garage and one light that hangs right over the front door that works with one switch. Something was not right with the switch and it wasn’t about changing the bulb.
The first company told me that they would come out the next day but I had to work so I asked them if they had anything in the morning. They said that they could come out between 8:00 and 9:00 and gave me only an hour window so I stayed at home even though I had to work at that time. At around 11:30, I hadn’t heard anything, so I continually called. The company informed me that the technician was at the first location where he ran into some issues and was going to be late. I needed to work so I needed to have an idea when they’re coming but they said they can’t give me that and that the tech will call me when he’s on his way.
I called American Home Shield since I wasn’t going to play games and I told them that I had to cancel it. They, in turn, said that that was very unsatisfactory to what they guarantee their customers and cancelled it. Then they got back with me and gave me a new company to call. This man called me immediately. He was a very nice gentleman, but when he learned what my address was, he said that he didn’t know why American Home Shield gave me over to him because I was way too far out of his jurisdiction and it would not be cost-effective for him to come out.
I then got referred to another company and this company gave me what the contractors always do, a four-hour window. It was the first window in the morning, 8:00 to 1:00, but by almost 4:00 they were still not here and I got no calls so I had to cancel the appointment. I had somebody else come out and a gentleman resolved the issue. He was very nice and he came within his window.
But I called American Home Shield and told them that for what I went through, I didn’t want to pay the $100 deductible. I expected them to pay it. But getting them to do that was a nightmare because initially, AHS told me that it can't be done. They were also sending me bills telling me this $100 is past due. I had to call them again and remind them that in 2010, this happened to me too and they paid my deductible. I also threatened them that if they don't pick up my deductible, I will never come back to AHS once my contract is up. So finally, after 20 calls, the problem was resolved.
I was also so annoyed because every time I called AHS, I had to hang on to the phone for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get to a real person and it’s horrifying. The only time I’ve gotten through at a normal rate was some holiday that most likely everybody was enjoying and I decided to call American Home Shield.
I had a problem too when I called AHS for a garage door opener repair. The contract confused me so I asked several questions, and this young lady told me that it was covered. But when the contractor came out, he informed me that it wasn’t. Since I needed to have the issue fixed, I paid for the repair and when I called American Home Shield, they told me that they had to research to find out who I spoke with. They found out that I was telling them the truth and that their rep indeed informed me that it would be covered. So instead of reimbursing me for whatever that part was, the next time I called American Home Shield there was a credit on my account and they picked up the deductible. I also had an issue with my washer and they replaced it but I’m not happy with what they gave me. It does the job, but it is the noisiest, craziest washer I’ve ever seen and I don’t like it.
My mom who’s in Ohio has American Home Shield too and she has never had problems like these. My sister is also thrilled with her AHS policy and she’s in California. As for me, overall, when they have come out, the repairs have been good and the warranty has benefited me. But it has had some huge issues and it hasn’t come easy. So I would tell somebody to get a home warranty since it’s a good idea but I wouldn’t recommend AHS.

We've had a couple of issues but American Home Shield hasn't covered anything for us. We just kept getting charged with the $75 service call. They came out for the dishwasher months ago and the thing never worked. They came back out a couple of weeks ago for that and this guy said he ordered all the parts for it. He also said that he's going to be back to fix it but we haven't heard from him and that was four weeks ago. Then we had a guy come out for a plumbing leak. He was trying to say it was coming from the ceramic tile but it's not. It's coming from the drain pipe. Then he said it was coming from the shower and left telling us it wasn't covered. Then somebody came out for the double oven and also said it wasn't covered in the warranty. So I got irritated, ripped it out myself and put a new one in.
We've given AHS nothing but money. We paid five service calls at $375 and our monthly dues, plus we paid the year in advance last year. It's been a mess and the companies they sent out were awful. They spent two minutes in the house, took the $75, and they're out the door with no resolution. We would like some help but we're getting nowhere when we call AHS. We wish they’d at least come and fix the dishwasher. We already had two techs come out for it and it's still not fixed. So overall, it's not the greatest experience.

I work quite a distance from my home so I'm always given a window of time that the contractors will arrive. And they arrive within that window.

I let them know I’m frustrated. We got the repair order, the contractor came out, did his business and left.
Half an hour after he left, when my wife put the laundry, the dryer went back to doing what it was doing before. I wasn’t trying to phone again. I got online with Facebook. I posted on American Home Shield page what happened and at 15-minute turnaround, they’d answered it. It’s the biggest improvement over the rest. I’ve had three claims total, so far, since I’ve been with American Home Shield. One on the refrigerator and twice on the condenser and air conditioner with a heat problem. And all three times I’ve had nothing but fantastic service from them. The most recent claim was for my air conditioner. They set me up with an air conditioning company. The contractor had to come back on it because he said the air handler, condenser, and the outdoor unit had leaks in it. It was going to cost around $1,500 to fix it as it was in pretty bad shape. American Home Shield replaced the old unit and it’s working fine right now.

My AC went out and the fan kept running but it was getting hotter. I wasn't sure what's going on until we noticed that the AC outside was just not working, so I filed a claim with American Home Shield like I always do. I used their automated system and it went through fine, but it happened on a Friday and I didn't want to wait for the delay because I have young kids. And so, I contacted a different provider that American Home Shield used and often helped us out. I asked if they could come in sooner at any time because I've got kids and I can't have them sleeping in this weather. And he said that was fine, so we tried to work that out.
I really like American Home Shield. I've never had any issues with them, but I had a very hard time getting a hold of someone on the phone. Every number I called was experiencing extremely long wait-times, over 30 minutes. And I waited for like an hour one time. I've had them for several years and that was just the recent occurrence. It's never happened before so I don't know what's going on. It's difficult to transact by the phone if I needed to really speak with someone about my billing or the situation that I had, where I needed to get a different vendor from the one they had given me already. The phone tree only works for the basics, if you have a service problem or want to cancel. But when I got to the rep, the interaction was fine, he transferred me over to the vendors. And then, the vendor who can come early called me and told me when they’re gonna come.
The contractor who came was Laney and he’s great. He actually owns the company and has 20 plus years of service. He assessed the situation right away and I got to have a brand new unit. Installation took about three hours and everything was fine. I'm actually surprised that I don't get more push back, because like with any warranty company, the customer is subject to limitations. But I have 12 items that are covered and if something breaks I call American Home Shield and they send somebody out. They've been really great and very helpful, so other than the long wait-times on the phone, I have a positive experience with them. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had some plumbing issues in my house so I called American Home Shield's 1800 number and set up an appointment for one of their vendors to come out which was K&S Plumbing. The typical turnaround time is a couple of days so that was expected, but when the person came out, he stayed for 20 minutes on the telephone and then he spoke to my husband for a little while. My plumbing was backed up and the plumber mentioned that he couldn't run the line because American Home Shield would only cover a portion of the line to be run, which was 100 feet and it needed to be more. He said it won't be covered but they could charge us $600 to have somebody come out and blow the system out like a pressure pump so the plumbing would start working again.
At that point, I couldn't use any of my plumbing so obviously the repair was a matter of urgency. I asked when was the earliest available time and he said he was going to call. However, I was going to have to wait five days before he could even get the truck out to use this service and I couldn't even go elsewhere. Plus I have kids and I have to run water and take baths.
He also told me he found something else that was wrong while he was looking. The gauge was off a certain number than what it was supposed to be, but I decided I would call somebody else on my own. I was not going to sit there and wait five days for somebody to come out. Besides, if it wasn't going to be covered under American Home Shield, I probably needed to call somebody else anyway. When the new contractor came out, he told me that the distance and the cord that he needed was 40. He didn't even need the whole amount of what the first plumber said and the repair would have been covered. Plus when the guy checked the little dial for the gauge, it was actually exactly where it needed to be because I bought that part two years beforehand.
So K&S Plumbing was going to charge me $600, yet I ended up getting all of it done on the same day for $250. It didn't take their plumber very long to figure out that he couldn't do the job either, which was to say, he really didn't check. It sounded like he just tried to make some money on his own. Unfortunately, the company that American Home Shield chose to come out was not very trustworthy. An older person or somebody that didn't know what to do or who to contact wouldn’t have wanted to deal with that. Some people would wait five days for the plumber to come back out. It was that emergency type of situation and people would have paid them the $600. I was not happy to say the least.
My husband suggested I call and take it up with K&S Plumbing but I felt like American Home Shield should have had it right to begin with and I was not giving them a pass to get it right. The plumber was a liar from the beginning and American Home Shield needs to screen whoever they choose to use. It was such a headache. It was a Friday afternoon at that point and it was so completely uncalled for. On top of that, the guy was even smoking. I don't care if somebody smokes but don't smoke outside of my driveway. It’s my home and it was very unprofessional.
AHS didn't even need to be working with K&S Plumbing. I work in real estate and AHS is somebody that I work with. I send their number to clients of mine most of the time and this would have happened to my clients. Then my clients would be getting mad at me because I referred AHS. The situation could have been prevented based on my previous situation when I called American Home Shield and the same company came out. The person who showed up was the nicest guy ever, although he had painted tattoos all over his face and his body, even on his eyelids. He was hard to look at and if my little boy would have been there, he would have been terrified. I hate that though, because he was very helpful.
Also, I paid the $75 on top of the $250 and I didn't feel like having to deal with the inconvenience of having to call someone else or any of that. I had to wait additional three days since if I didn't have the home warranty, then I would have called that second contractor anyway. I was not going to pay the $75 and I needed to get my money back at that point. They did take care of that, so I appreciated that, but they haven't given me all of it back yet.

American Home Shield is overpriced. You don't really get anything for what you're paying for. It gets sold as more coverage than what it actually is. What I see is that there are no preventative measures. The measures are reactive. So everything has to be broken in order to be covered. I was moving into my property, which is a pre-owned resale, and the items that I was trying to get repaired aren't covered until they are broken through. The most recent claim I had with them was for the toilet. I was trying to be proactive in having them rechecked because it had a leak. I put some sealant on it and I thought that it would work, but it was still leaking when I checked. I filed the claim online but I had to go through the phone to discuss all four toilets because when you do something online, you can only do one claim at a time. The details also aren't there and when you select something, it darkens out where you can't select another thing.
When they made it here, miraculously, it wasn't leaking again. The guy who came tightened a bolt and that was the repair. I basically paid $75 for the guy to tighten the bolt. So, that experience was not good for me. Now, I'm gun-shy to call them for something so simple. I wish I could find a more quality insurer that will consider to personally call.
Clayton,
With your American Home Shield warranty, repairs and replacements will not occur unless there is a mechanical failure with the item. We would love to connect with you regarding your experience so that you are clear of your coverage. A social media specialist will be in contact with you soon to discuss further. Thanks!

I had four appliances that needed repair - my oven that had a broken handle, my oven range hood that had a motor that wasn't working as well as it should, an ice maker that wasn't making as much ice as it should, and a washer that was leaking water when it was washing comforters. I had a guy come out within 48 hours and he identified all the parts that needed to be done. He was able to repair three of the four appliances with parts that were still in stock. Except for the oven, which the handle, unfortunately, was discontinued, even though the oven was manufactured in 2004 or 2005. The oven was operational, just no handle.
At that point, the appliance guy didn't finish the job and it was handed off to another vendor that's more responsible for replacing ovens. American Home Shield elected to replace the oven and it would cost me to have something of equal and like qualities. The initial claim was made in mid-August and it was finally replaced in around September 2nd. I'm not going to bellyache about it because I only had to pay $75 deductible for the entire process. I got a whole new oven that had Lowe's retail value of $1200 to $1400 depending on where you shop. It was super fantastic. I pay $55 a month and it was worth it. I would very much recommend them.

I called the 1-800 number for American Home Shield to file a claim when we heard some noise coming from the air conditioner while we were doing some remodeling on the house. It was a really long wait time so I had my wife do an online service request that went smoothly. According to my wife, the guy that came out was professional and courteous and knew what he was doing. Now, the AC is working fine. I would like to add that they say it takes 24 hours for them to call once you make a claim so I was just wondering if it could be faster for something urgent. Other than that, everything’s smooth and I’d definitely recommend them to a friend. We’re actually having some plumbing work done today through American Home Shield and we’re paying $75 for a service call – a very good value for a warranty that was paid by the seller of this house.

I just moved into my house on June the 28th and I had to put my first claim on our sewer ejector pump with American Home Shield on July the 1st. I've put the same claim in five times in a row in the last two months. Getting their reps on the phone was awful. I would sit on hold and there were a few times I stayed on hold for almost an hour before someone answered my phone call. Most of the people were polite though, but there were some times that I felt like the employees didn’t work at the same company because they were not on the same page. One employee would tell me one thing and the other employee would tell me something totally different about my coverage. One lady even said, “That’s new to me. We haven’t been trained on that yet. I didn’t know that.”
They keep sending out a plumber from K&S Plumbing and I don’t recommend that company because the plumber came out multiple times and told us it was the same issue. I then called my own plumber and got an outside authorization and my plumber said I had a major problem. My pump was burned up and the piping was messed up. He had a diagnosis compared to the other plumber who never fixed the problem. The last he came out, it was on a Tuesday afternoon and he did something to the pump and it worked for three days then on Friday, it went back out. I had to call AHS back and file another claim for the same issue.
I got charged the first two times a $75 service fee which I didn’t feel was right because the problem never got corrected. And the first time the plumber came out, it was the 4th of July weekend. The lady I talked to from AHS said she couldn't find a plumber to come to our house that week. But it was an emergency because we had no use of our bathrooms or our water. The sewer was backing up in our house. She said I could get an outside authorization so I called the plumbing company near me. They can't touch the problem until they were preapproved for an outside authorization and I told them that. The plumber gave AHS what he thought it would cost without even touching the plumbing. They came and pumped it out, but the problem never truly got fixed.
The work also ended up costing the plumber more. They charged me $525 and I paid for it. I sent AHS the final invoice but American Home Shield only reimbursed me $225 for the amount that it cost to get the stoppage undone. I was not happy about that. I called back and asked why I was only getting a check for half of what the service cost and the lady said that that was the initial quote that the plumber gave them so they were not going to cover the rest of it. I told her that was not right because the plumber didn’t know as he didn't get his hands dirty yet. He was just guesstimating. But I ended up eating that other charge which I felt was very unfair.
I looked at AHS' policy online and it said that I shouldn’t have to pay a service fee if it's been within 60 days of the same problem. When I called and asked about being reimbursed, no one even offered and said that they could reimburse me for that or that they were sorry that that happened and that it was a glitch. No one even tried to help me with that. When I talk to people, I feel like they don’t even care. Not being able to go to one's own restroom and not being able to shower and wash dishes is a huge inconvenience and it's frustrating for the homeowner. And to have someone on the other line that doesn’t even really act like they care sucks.
Yesterday, the plumber that actually diagnosed the issue came out to the house and he replaced the sewer ejector pump and it cost $2,600 out of pocket to replace it. But the lady that I talked to yesterday said that they would only cover $500 of that which is unreal for me. So I had to put it on the credit card because I don’t have $2,600 just laying around. But the pump's fixed as of yesterday.
Also, if I called American Home Shield on a Friday night, I wouldn’t hear from them until maybe Saturday night and then they would say that they've contacted the plumbing company and we should hear from them within 24 hours. But two days pass by and I hear from the plumbing company. They then have to put us on their schedule. Overall, it was a difficult experience.

I've had the same issue about my air conditioner and this is the seventh week of my summer in Florida at over 100 degrees with three small children and without air conditioner. American Home Shield didn't handle the situation properly and the problem was the terrible company that they sent. There was a human error so I was so upset. It could have been solved but out of four appointments, the technician only showed up to two with no notice. If my appointment was at noon, they would show up at 8:00 at night without calling me and they never answered the phone. They called to tell me they're coming in for two hours at noon the next day and that's the last time I heard from them.
I called American Home Shield everyday and they insisted on this company. Later on, they gave me authorization to go with someone from outside the network but each day was one more day that I didn’t have air conditioner. So I called another company and after they came, I sent American Home Shield their plan and prices but AHS said it was too expensive. By then, they had left me with no air conditioner for one month and then they sent me a third company which was a different story. It was a very decent company. They picked up the phone and called me every couple of minutes to tell me the technician would be there 10 minutes late. They wouldn’t leave if my air conditioner wasn’t working.
However, two weeks ago, the air conditioner broke again. I asked for the decent company to come but American Home Shield told me no. They said the first company needed to come because they were the ones who started the thing out. It was a joke. But I did not sit and wait for people to decide anything. I called them every other day twice a day because I knew they didn't care. I tried to get American Home Shield to transfer everything to the decent company and they finally accepted it yesterday. However, they were not doing what they were supposed to do. Depending on who I got on the phone, some reps were a little bit more helpful and some were not. They just repeated things that I didn't need to hear. It's been a terrible experience and they know how upset I am. I had been screaming to them on the phone everyday.

I didn’t notice for a month that my toilet, you could hear water surging every now and then so it had been going on for a while. I tried looking in it and adjusting the little bobble thing myself but couldn’t solve the problem. So I called American Home Shield to see if someone could come out. Sometimes it’s hard getting through on the phone lines of AHS to reach someone. But after you get someone, they’re pretty quick. Within 48 hours, you’ll have someone call you back and give you the claim number so you know what’s going on. Then they’ll call you back and have someone set up an appointment to come out and work with you. I'm a nurse and with how I work, it’s really important that they're here if they tell me they’re gonna be here at a certain time ‘cause I'm on someone else’s time and they’ve been pretty good about that so far.
I’ve had bad experiences in the past with a contractor and have asked AHS that they not be sent back. They’ve been really good about not sending that company back. They have certain people that they work with and it’s just who you’re getting, what day it is, and what kind of mood they’re in. But as a whole, interactions with the contractors were good. I've stayed with AHS this long and I’ll be with them longer. I’m pretty pleased.

He fixed the issue with my air conditioner. He was very thorough.
When they fixed my furnace some years ago, I was shocked because the contractor had to come out twice. The first time he came out, he did a quick fix. Then the furnace broke again. I called back and the same contractor came back the next day. He said, "Well, I saw this issue yesterday." He was waiting for a piece to break and he chose not to fix it or he was limited by the policy when he came out the first time not to fix the problem. I had to go through another night being cold in the winter. That was a little frustrating. I also don't like the delay dispatch of the service. If you called on a Monday, they probably can't send anybody out until Wednesday or Thursday. It's definitely frustrating. We had a leak and a faucet needed to be replaced. The plumbers came as expected and the two guys were fairly young but very knowledgeable. They explained exactly what would happen and because my house is not very new, the work that needed to be done required a part which they would order and then they would call me back to set up an appointment to install. They called back, came in, replaced the part and walked out and it was a very nice experience. Another time, the humidifier on my furnace was dripping. The contractor looked at it. He said there was no leak and that I just didn't tighten it enough. He did that extra little thing and made life a little bit easier. They were fabulous and very nice. And once the air conditioning contractor was able to come, he did highly professional work and he was very courteous and polite.
But for a 24 hours service, same day service is almost impossible. I feel like there are enough contractors out there that if American Home Shield could contract with more people, that same day service could be possible. Also, I had to do an appliance replacement during one of my experiences with AHS and I found it to be very hard impacting on me. It was very easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. You just do it online. However, speaking with them online was not easy. I had to call them a few times about different things and the wait time was about an hour. They need more people because it's ridiculous to be held up that long. American Home Shield doesn't pay their contractors enough to get the best.
My washer was leaking and then the door switch was broken. The tech came to fix it and he said that he didn't know why the door switch was broken. He said that he never had trouble with the door switch. And then, he couldn't get the door open and then they sent the wrong door switch. Whoever they get the parts from it wasn't American Home Shield. Other problems developed and the tech had to come back a few times. I've never had somebody come back so many times with some issues in the 35 years that I've been a homemaker. It took three weeks for them to fix everything. But the tech was good, communicative and pleasant to deal with. We have another issue that we're working on and they don't have any contractors that work on our type of heat system. So, they're giving us permission to use an outside contractor.

My daughter-in-law spoke very highly of AHS. They've ended up having their dishwasher replaced and had worked on their furnace. I filed a claim when my burner went out and I'm a little disappointed that they can't get here at least by the next day. Waiting a couple of days, to me, seem a little long. Maybe they need to hire more people. It could be a lot of things and I'm not going to discontinue it because it takes two days for them to come out here. Also, I think $100 is a little much just to come out and look at something.
The contractor seemed to know what he was doing. I have laid my arm on the burner. It gets pretty hot. Another thing is on each side of the stove on the front panel, there are two little red lights that indicate that either the burner is on or the burner is hot. They fell down, somewhere where the timer is. I was going to ask him if he could just pull them back but I think he misunderstood it. Since it wasn't in the work order, he couldn't. But overall, I've been satisfied and the only thing is I wish they could narrow the time frame down a little bit.

Our most recent experience with American Home Shield wasn't the most positive. We had scheduled to have plumbing problem fixed and I paid for the warranty. When they came out to do the service, they didn't do everything they were supposed to do at their first visit. I called to ask for them to come back out, but somehow the appointment got cancelled and so did the payment. It was like a whole big mix-up. Then a couple of days later, I rescheduled and they came back out. Needless to say, it took quite a few days and it turned out that I had a leak that had been going on for a while. My husband said that when we had a problem with the toilet a month ago, the guy that came out twisted some little thing to have more water and put new flappers in. But one of the toilets, he didn't clean the old debris from the other flapper. The old flapper was what's causing this to leak a little into the tank.
I called on a Thursday, and I was going to have to wait until Tuesday for somebody to come. I kept asking the plumber saying, "I understand that you're going to take time to come, but there's a lot of damage still going on. I need this water shut off." She told me that she was going to have somebody else call me and never called. We thought we could turn it off because we turned a valve, but then when we came back, we saw the water was still running. Then they had called on Saturday to say that they will come on Sunday and that they would send somebody else out to help turn the water off. It took a lot of doings and then finally somebody came on Sunday.
I've got all this damage there that could have been avoided had they just sent someone or told me where to go or what to do. It was kind of frustrating and I wasn't happy. There was another leak in the toilet in the same part that they replaced when they came out the first time and they replaced it again. So I paid quite a few $75 fees because it's just the way their system is set up. I just feel like I've been paying a lot of fees and not getting good service. But it seems to be working fine now after the repair.
Also, the first time I submitted a claim I did it online not knowing that they don't give anything to you and don't have any place to write anything extras. So I wrote on there that it was a toilet. I didn't put toilet and plumbing at the same time. So when they came out, they said that the plumbing wasn't on the work order, so they would only address the toilet because I put it in on the computer. From then on, I would have to sit on the phone 45 minutes or more waiting to speak to someone because I realized that I can't do anything online even if it's for a quick fix. The claims reps were courteous and professional though. But they should try to make the website a little bit more user-friendly so that you can put more information on there, and won't have to sit on hold for so long.
Also, with the service vendors, I would like them to be able to work directly because the people that came out the second time were awesome. If I would have another plumbing problem, I'd like to be able to have the same person come back, but from what I understand, that's not always the case. You have to go by whatever is in their system.
