My most recent claim to American Home Shield was some electrical work on an outlet. The process was really easy. My wife called and made the claim. They were very helpful and connected us with the electrician. Then the electrician came out and did what he had to do. We paid the amount of money that was agreed upon and the problem was fixed. My kids can use the outlet to charge their tablet, so they're happy. It was great. We've called before and it's always been a positive experience. It's a good service out there to get insurance program especially when having a house that’s 20 years old, things are going to start going out and it's nice to know we have them to fall back on. It's something that we'll keep for years to come.

We called American Home Shield due to an air conditioner problem but their contractor didn’t show up. It wasn’t on AHS though as there was a little glitch with the actual contractor. And AHS was very accommodating when we told them about it. Their reps have been very good. After that first glitch everything went smoothly. The contractor covered part of the cost of the refrigerant that had to be put in the air conditioner. And so far the quality of work is good. Air condition's still working.

Our air conditioning and furnace unit quit operating and submitting the claim with American Home Shield went well. The folks from this company were exceptional and I got a call within 30 minutes. We knew what the problem was and we had to blow our motor out. Tim, the tech who came out, got the air conditioning fixed and running but it went out again the next day. We had a bad motor out of the box so the contractor had to put another motor in. We got it done and things are great.

I talked to someone from American Home Shield to make a claim for an air conditioning problem. Everything with AHS has been great and wonderful, they're good people, and even the guy that came in. I've had nothing but great service out of the technicians that have been sent to my house. But my favorite people of all is Integrity Appliance, those guys do a great job. However, my only complaint was having to hold for 30 minutes to be able to talk to somebody. Also, I hung up the other day because I held for almost 45 minutes and still didn’t have anybody. The hold time is unreal to talk to a person. Sometimes I have a problem that I can't tell the computer how to do it because it doesn’t ask me the right questions so I need to talk to someone and it would be a great, great thing if they can do that. Other than that, I'm very happy with what they all do.

Our air conditioning unit stopped working and so we filed a claim online with American Home Shield. Filing a claim was pretty simple and easy. Their contractor called before he came. He was very professional and told me what was wrong with the unit and how much stuff he was going to put in there. I was pretty pleased being that it was the first time that I had to use it.

My garage door spring broke and I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. I was told who to look for. Then the repair person called me and he came out to fix the problem. When I called, he was out within 24 hours. He was very nice and cleaned up after himself. He fixed the garage door and it didn’t take him long or an hour to do it. I haven't had a problem since the repair and I'm glad I purchased from American Home Shield.

My experience with AHS was quick and easy. I’ve never had any problems with them. They had Sears come out to fix my refrigerator. They have to come back a few weeks later, though, because something was supposed to work but didn’t. But my fridge has been pretty good ever since. I also recommended AHS to two other people.

I had two claims with American Home Shield in the last couple of months, one for HVAC system and the other one for electrical. I submitted one online and another on the phone and the service was nice. My only problem is follow-through. I paid contractors the service fee but American Home Shield didn’t have a record of it in their system. So they sent me annoying messages and emails about me owing them $75 which I did not. The contractors asked for payment so I wrote them a check as I always do. I even asked American Home Shield, “Can you tell me if he came back out and fixed the light on the outside of my house? Because one of them is not working.” The guy said they put the sensor on but the light still stays on 24 hours so that issue hasn’t been resolved. The electrician who came was excellent but I just don’t know where the failure is. I’ll call them back and find out what the response is.
Then on the furnace, the HVAC system, they sent an inexperienced technician out. This inexperienced guy looked at the problem, told me that I had a warranty and that AHS was not going to pay for them. He said I had to get the replacement part from the manufacturer. I wasted my time trying to do this only to find out that that was what AHS was supposed to do. Tracking down the system and finding the old receipt when it was done was just a little crazy. I had to pay $500 out of pocket for somebody to take the condenser out, to go over and get the new condenser. That was ridiculous and I am very upset about that. I was told AHS will reimburse me for my money but then they called me to say they have the part and they’re coming out. They told me I had to go back to the retail where I got the part from and have them to make the claim. It was just a long, laborious process as I was sitting in the house with no air conditioning for four days.
Those two are just tragic incidences. The best force they sent out was the electrician because he did what he was supposed to do. I haven’t filed a claim with AHS in years so for me to finally need them and have that experience, it's not a very nice one. So, I began looking at other home warranty companies with better service and I can work with. I just bought a plane in the summer for my mom who’s 87 years old. She can’t go through what I went through because that’s not good, so I called the other day to cancel both of my AHS policies. They’re trying to convince me to stay with them but I said no. I went with another company because I need service. I’m paying for service because that’s what I need.
Linda,

We had a problem with our central air conditioning unit and it was pretty bad. We were almost two weeks without air conditioning. We called American Home Shield and it's good with their reps and the contractor. The contractor told me what the problem was and had him talk to my husband on the phone from right here in my living room to explain to my husband what the problem was. When he submitted it to American Home Shield, it was written differently from what he told us the problem was and American Home Shield said they don't cover that.
We got back a hold of him and I said he told me it was a condenser issue and asked why he wrote the work order as being a compressor issue when American Home Shield doesn't cover compressors. His exact words to me were that it was what they're told they have to write up which really ticked me off because that means they're told to write up what AHS doesn't cover. I told him somebody's going to contact me and talk to me about this issue because if they're telling me one thing and write it out as something else, that's not fair to me. We're paying for this warranty. But they worked it out and they agreed the unit was so old that they were going to replace the whole unit. American Home Shield covered the first thousand dollars of replacing the central unit like the paperwork says they would do and then we paid for the balance.
That's the first time that's ever happened with American Home Shield and I thought it was funny that they would tell a person how to write up what’s actually wrong with something so that they’re not responsible. But other than that, I love AHS and we've always been very satisfied with them. They decided they would do something and do the right thing and that's all that mattered.

We recently filed a claim to American Home Shield concerning our leaking pipe in the bathroom and my husband submitted it online. They came and did what they are supposed to do and everything was well taken care of. Their contractors were always very friendly and very pleasant. They always send two contractors, which I find interesting, but I’m sure it’s to make things easier for them. They get to work, get the work done and leave. Everything was working fine since the repair and the deductible is reasonable.

My hot water heater went out and so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. While I was still on the phone talking to AHS, they already sent me the name of the plumber who would contact me, and I was like, "You're kidding me." Also, their representative explained everything. Tom from White's Plumbing came and measured. He ordered the hot water heater, picked it up and put it in. He cleaned up thereafter and put my doors back up for me. Since the repair, I have had hot water and the heater is working fine. I checked and it's not leaking. I've been really pleased with using American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for our air conditioner right after the 4th of July. It occurred during a terrible time of the year to be without air conditioner because of the heat and people being off for the holiday to process things. But it was wonderful. They followed up to let me know when the appointment would be kept and the tech was there at the scheduled appointment.
I asked the technician a couple of other questions regarding the heating and cooling and he was very knowledgeable. He also had a lot of sensitivity to the fact that it was mid-July in Alabama. He seemed to try and take care of the problem as quickly as possible. Overall, they were outstanding. I called a couple of places and they were very knowledgeable in giving me the information I needed to make the decision to renew my AHS warranty.

There was a leak in the bathroom ceiling's fan heater. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and someone called, worked with me on the schedule and set up an appointment. However, I wasn't quite satisfied because it wasn't being resolved as I expected. The contractor put just another cover to the fan, but I ended up having to do something else with someone else on the roof of the house to prevent any water leak because they said that was not within their scope. Nevertheless, the contractor guy was good and I'm satisfied with him. So far, the performance was okay and my experience was good.

We've been with AHS now for several years and they have been very good in working with us. We had our bathroom toilet replaced recently through them. We wanted to upgrade and it took us a few months to finally get around in selecting what we wanted and have it installed. Initially, we talked to them on the phone and I've been very happy with the people that I have handled directly. My husband submitted the paperwork and they submitted the difference. We would pay for the item and they would pay us what they would have paid if they actually purchased it for us. We were very pleased with the contractors that AHS sent out and the response had been good. After the repair, the bathroom toilet has been fine. Overall, it has been really good and we've been happy with AHS.

Then, the technician came and arrived within the window he said he will come in the email that he sent when he left the office. He was friendly, courteous, professional, knew what he was doing and didn't make a mess. He was an electrician but the problem was not electrical. The issue was the motor of the fan and he doesn't replace motors. It's running now but it's going to go down again. He said he will submit that information to AHS and they should contact me to let me know what they're going to do. I'm very satisfied with the technician. I recently filed a claim for my air conditioner and the plumbing for my sink. I did it over the phone and I didn't have any issue with the American Home Shield representative but nobody notified me of a change. Usually I pay the person the $75 fee when they come here but now it’s automatically taken out of my account. I tried to pay each service person and they said no. Then I looked three days later, the fee came out of my account. That’s ok with me but it’s information that I would want to know. The contractors were great and the service was good but I had an issue in the past where something happened on a Friday and nobody was able to come out until Monday. It's just from time to time, we get a person on the phone who doesn’t know what the hours of operations are and if they can get weekend help or not. So it's a hit or miss whoever you get on the phone when you call there.

I have worked in customer service for several years, so I always try to maintain reasonable expectations when I contact any company. That being said, my first experience with American Home Shield last week was, by far, the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Our AC stopped working some time in the night last Wednesday night. I logged into my AHS account online and requested service first thing Thursday morning. I knew right away, from viewing my account, the name of the vendor who would be coming out. I called said vendor just after 1:00 since I had not heard from them to see when they could come check on the problem. I was told they could not come until Monday afternoon and they recommended that I call AHS and ask for a different vendor.
After just over an hour on hold with AHS, I finally got to speak to a human being. I explained the situation and confirmed my address and phone number with the CSR. She said she'd be happy to help and offered to put me on hold while she called around to see if someone could come sooner. Somehow, she disconnected our call at the 1 hour and 16 minute mark. I assumed she would call me back since I had verified my contact information with her prior to being disconnected. I kept checking my online account to see if the vendor name had changed. No change and NO CALL BACK. Meanwhile, it's 90 degrees in my house and I still don't know when we'll have relief.
Three hours passed with no word, so I called another heat and air company on my own and set an appointment for the next day (Friday). Then I proceeded to call AHS back, since there is no other possible way to contact them - no live chat - no email address - just a phone number and the longest hold times I've ever experienced (all while listening to a pre-recorded message over and over and over... About how important my call is to them). At 1 hour and 17 minutes into the call, I was connected to a live person.
She seemed well aware of the excessive hold times and was eager to explain to me why her co-worker couldn't have possibly called me back, even though she had my number. She then informed me that they couldn't change the vendor because Monday afternoon was within the 48 hour window of service response. She made a snarky comment about our inability to endure the TX heat until that time (wow, that was a nice touch). I asked if there was any other way to contact them, besides phone, as I could not find another way on their website. She replied that she was not familiar with the website because she had not been trained on it. As I expected, she confirmed that if we went with the vendor we had called on our own, AHS would cover none of our out-of-pocket expenses. If they couldn't possibly change the vendor, what was the first rep doing when she disconnected me? She SAID she was finding me a new vendor.
Our AC was repaired on Friday by the company we had contacted on our own. We are out $400 for something that should have been covered by what may very well turn out to be a useless home warranty. I called the original AHS vendor and cancelled our Monday appointment. She said that if we changed our minds, to just call her back "because I know it can be difficult to get through to AHS."
We just purchased this home with the warranty through AHS, so we are stuck with them for a year. I hope someone there is reading all of the negative comments and actually formulating a plan to better service their customers. You are clearly understaffed and undertrained and there are easy solutions to both of those problems.

I had a well pump that is the primary source of water for us where the pipe exploded. I called them on a Friday night when it happened. I called them and they said they’ll put a call in. I then found out about their 24-business hour perspective to get someone to respond, not necessarily to fix. It was a big expectations gap that I had. I called on Friday and they dispatched it to a plumber who doesn’t work on weekends. I called AHS back to say I can’t wait until Monday for this guy. They said they’ll try to escalate it within their network to within 24 hours and if they can’t find someone, I can use my own provider, pay for it myself and they will reimburse me. I was going to cancel the claim when they couldn’t find someone but they said no.
Then the guy comes out on Monday to say he could do the work Tuesday and that it’s gonna be $450 for me to do the work because the warranty doesn’t cover it. It covers the pump, not the pipe coming out of the pump. We’ve got to first fix it, then see if there’s a problem with the pump. His quote was ridiculous so I got my own guy who charged half of that and was done with it Monday night. Then I had call back to reschedule the claim. They issued it to the same guy who took 48 hours to come back out. It ended up being a two-week period by the time the guy came out and actually did the work after which he had to come back out two separate times to redo what he had done because it was not fixed properly. It was a timer switch that’s what’s was wrong and I told him about that from the beginning.
I sent a photo to prove that I had gotten the work done and paid for it separately so that the pipe was fixed before they release him. Every time I called AHS, I am told that’s just how it goes. They kept saying someone would call me but and then no one would. I went online got escalated to the online customer service manager who did make an outbound call, took in all this information, and finally dealt with it. She followed up with me personally but the call center was a disaster as with the contractor. This one here was probably the worst possible scenario in every step of the way. I wanted to cancel my contract but with AHS, but I’ve already paid for the year so I’ll make that decision next year when it renews.
I had another claim right behind that where I had an issue with the fan right above my stove top. They issued the contractor that’s been out for all my GE appliances. The guy was out in 24 hours, went above and beyond, fixed it, no problems the way I’ve had every other interaction with AHS go. I use my home warranty quite a bit over the four years and every one of them has had no problems and the contractors have been great. Overall, I gotta give them credit for four good years versus one that was really bad. AHS is pretty good enough and I would recommend my friends to it every time.
Mr. Laria,
Your well-pump work order did not work out as it should have & for that, we sincerely apologize. Thanks for allowing our online chat and management team to make it right. In spite of this incident, your 4-star review is an indication that while not perfect, your American Home Shield plan has proven to be beneficial for protecting systems in your home and the homes of the family and friends you have recommended. Thanks for four good years; we look forward to continuing our relationship!

Our most recent claim with AHS was very nice. They had to come in and had to put a new mechanism in our oven that had caught fire. The AHS representatives made the arrangements for the technician to call us and so we followed through with what they explained to us to do and that was fine. The only thing is that when the fellow that was gonna do the work had made an appointment with us, somehow a piece that they were gonna put in got put on another truck so we had to reschedule and it happened to be during a time when we were having a bunch of medical appointments so that was kind of inconvenient. But the technician was fine and capable. He was here for not more than 20 minutes. He had to pull the stove out and everything but he left everything fine. We’ve been using the oven since then.
They did really good with this claim but the claim we had with the dishwasher was a fiasco. AHS had sent out Ram’s Appliances which was totally incapable. They kept coming out here trying to replace the seal on the dishwasher but they did not know what they were doing. They were just running up bills with the warranty company. So, we told AHS that we will not have those people back in this house. They finally got somebody who was capable to repair it and it took us four months to get our dishwasher replaced. There were three different companies that came out for that claim. Finally, they realized that the dishwasher was not repairable. I called the corporate office to get something done and that’s when AHS said they would replace the dishwasher after they had paid a bunch of money to people who were ignorant in coming out here. That was really hard.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, their phone choices don’t let you get there easily. They have to make you go through the entire phone system and it will ask you to say what you want but then they do not recognize it. It’s not very efficient and very difficult to reach somebody. I've done other claims online but used the phone recently. When we get a wholesome interaction with the representatives, it’s efficient, quick and they are able to respond. Usually, it’s to tell them what’s broken or what’s wrong, give them an idea of what we know about it because of the sounds it’s making or whatever happened to make it go out and give them information.
I had an AC unit that wasn’t working properly and from the time I filed the claim, it took two days for the contractors to come. They were efficient in coming out when they said they were going to. They were able to get an opening earlier in the day and they called and came out early. They knew what they were doing and it didn't take them very long to make a repair. It’s a pretty good experience but there’s always room for improvement. So far, AHS has been reliable and provides a good coverage that's needed from a warranty perspective.

My water bill was really high at $100. It's been like that for two months but I couldn't get straight what was going on with it. Earlier this month, I put dye in the toilet and I saw that the toilet kept running. I called American Home Shield and told them that I wanted to get somebody to come out and look at the toilet. There is usually a long wait on the phone if you submit claims that way and they give customers the option to go online, but I prefer to call and the reps are usually okay. The rep scheduled a time for their service people to come out and that took three days. Generally, the customer is not going to get the repair done immediately. One time, the AC wasn't working and I had to call someone else to get it repaired because it's not something that I can wait for three days to get fixed.
The issue that I'm going to have to call and speak to AHS about is the payment. They charge a $75 deductible fee when the tech comes out for a service call. If it's the AC, they charge extra for Freon if this is needed. There are also a few things that they have an extra charge for, like the hot water heater, but this is in the contract. But the thing that they started doing differently was the $45 monthly fee. I'm now paying $45 a month and $75 whenever the service people come out, regardless of what the issue is. Also, once I file a claim, they now want me to pay the $75 deductible upfront. But how can I give them $75 upfront when the service people haven't even come out?
When I first called and this happened, I called back and canceled the job because they weren't able to do the job in a timely fashion. But I still got charged although the service people didn't even come out. I called AHS and they rectified that. The second time I called, AHS suggested two options — my paying the deductible fee upfront or they would go ahead and bill me automatically three days after the tech comes with whatever credit card I have that pays the $45 monthly fee online. But they didn't bill me the $75 three days after. The service people called me back and said that they didn't get the payment from AHS yet and AHS told them that they would pay three days after. The service people asked me to pay, but I said that AHS told me not to pay the service people that are coming out.
This is something new that AHS started within the last month or two. AHS wants to bill their own way but they need to iron out how they're going to do it, if they're going to bill me automatically after they come or if I pay them upfront. But I wouldn't agree to do the latter because the service people might not come and I don't agree to paying for something before they get the item repaired. But the contractors are always fine and I'm prepared to pay them when they come.
Everything is okay. A $75 deductible is the going rate that most service people charge to come out, look at the appliance, and repair it. But once they repair the appliance, the cost is going to go higher if they have to order a part that I'd have to pay for. I'm also paying $45 a month which is good for the big ticket items like plumbing issues since I don't have to pay the usual amount to get the problem fixed. AHS was just trying to make some changes with the $75 deductible payment and paying $45 a month is not too bad. They do what they say and I get my appliance repaired without having to pay a lot of money. AHS is a good company and the system works.

Our first claim with American Home Shield was done at the end of June. We went through the process of calling three different times to get our AC repaired. The first two claims were done by Intertech, and then Precision did the actual install of the unit due to timing restraint. The first two times that someone came out, they just blew in some chemical and added Freon, and neither times did that work. It was a little frustrating because it took us over a month to get our AC finally repaired the correct way. The third time we had a company come in, it was Precision, and we ended up being highly impressed with them. Intertech was okay. But this one-man show of Precision AC for Little Rock area did a wonderful job. The tech communicated, called, and told us every step of the way, what was going on, and just had great customer service.
From an American Home standpoint, I was a little disappointed with their company for customer service reasons. We spent the better part of our several hours on the phone trying to get someone to communicate with us on this last time that we needed help with our AC. One day, I spent close to three hours, trying to talk to someone there and no one has time for that. No one should have to do that. My husband also spent two hours on the same day, trying to contact someone. We also attempted to communicate online. My husband tried twice and was told he needed to call their representative, so that wasn't fruitful as well. We tried all aspects and got nothing.
We never got a clear response on whether someone was coming the next day, or if we were getting a company to come. The only time that we got confirmation was when the company that was coming called me two minutes before they were showing up. We never got any confirmation that all of our hard work on calling had ever yielded any benefit, and so I'm very disappointed with American Home Shield. We won't be recommending them to anyone. We are thankful our AC has been replaced and taken care of, but the amount of time that we had to spend to get our repairs accomplished was ridiculous. It was a disappointing experience, and there needs to be lots of improvement in the customer service.

My last issue was with the ceiling fan and my experience has always been good whenever I've had to call in a claim. I generally get service whenever I've had to contact them and I haven’t had anything they haven’t addressed. I understand that you can’t get that instantly, so, I think the service is rather prompt.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the air conditioning and I submitted it over the phone. I waited for almost 15 minutes before the rep answered the phone, yet it has been wonderful and I was really pleased. I hate that it takes so long for the call to go through but I like speaking with a live person. Then I was also really pleased with the contractor they have sent and with the work that was done. They came out three times. When they initially repaired it, it gave air for a couple of days but I had to call them back. When they came back the second time, they put too much coolant in so it wasn't cooling. They had to let some out. Then everything's fine when the tech came back again. My air conditioning is now much better. I'll keep the company and I'll refer it to someone else.

I filed a claim with AHS for both my refrigerator, commode and dishwasher. The people that I've spoken to have been really nice. A replacement refrigerator will be brought tomorrow and the repair of my commode was excellent too, but the dishwasher hasn't been resolved yet. The first technician they sent didn’t get out the driveway and the water was running, but he wouldn't stop either so I called them. That was not American Home Shield’s fault though. Sometimes they have a hard time trying to find a contractor to come out. The technicians have been nice but it was only that one technician that I called and he had forgotten that he came out so he had to do a follow-up on it. But he did so many in one day so that's understandable.
So far, AHS has sent two people out to check my dishwasher and they’ve kind of been patching it up, but it still doesn’t work. They were looking for parts for it, but so far, I haven't heard anything. It should have been replaced a long time ago. American Home Shield people are very friendly and very apologetic but the process is slow. If I've been out on the appliance more than once, there's a problem. However, their techs assess it and it needs to be really fixed because I'm going to pay $80 or $90 for a service call. If they come out three times, I can go buy the washer with what I paid for them to come out. Other than that, I can't complain.

American Home Shield is a fiasco and nobody is able to service you. It’s very difficult to get through customer service and once you do and schedule an appointment with their technicians to come for whatever issue, they never show up. In my recent claim, the contractor had an excuse every time I called him. The last call was on Monday and he told me he forgot all about it. I called American Home Shield today to cancel the service and after waiting for about 36 minutes on the phone, somebody finally answered. But she's unable to cancel the service and had to send it to the cancellation department. She gave me the phone number and I dialed but gave up hope about 25 minutes into the phone call as it only rang. American Home Shield is not worth it and I do not recommend them.

The contractor was professional and he explained what to do to when it happens again to kind of prevent the problem from happening again. There have been no problems since the service. Overall, American Home Shield is a valuable service that our homeowners should look into getting for their home. My experience with them has been great, so far.

We have had AHS warranties on 5 of our homes for over 5 years. We hardly ever file claims with AHS. One of our beachside properties has had A/C issues for several years and AHS sends out the worst rated companies and puts "band aids" on the problem. If you need to call them, you will hold for a minimum of 45 minutes to 90 minutes (actual times I had to hold). They are rude and do not properly repair as any other non-AHS contractor would recommend. Attached are the photos of the A/C unit that runs but does not cool.
The first company they sent said it was physical damage (as you can see it is due to age). The second company bold face lied to me and told me they were recommending it be replaced but submitted to AHS that "The homeowner just wants it replaced." I wasted two weeks trying to deal with this sham of a company. I have cancelled all of my policies and learned a very valuable lesson about thinking they will honor their warranty when something breaks. I would NOT recommend AHS to anyone!

My daughter Michelle who lives in Dallas submits the claim to American Home Shield for me and she does it online mostly. A month and a half ago I had a leak in the wash and dry area and in my sunroom. I didn’t know what it was so AHS sent somebody and they replaced the hot water heater. We found out later on that there was something else when I washed clothes and it leaked again so we called AHS. They contacted a different contractor who came back, finally worked on the leaking on the washing machine and got that done. And now it's working good.
AHS has taken care of the problems that I’ve had over the years and it’s been good. Most of us are not able to pay lump sums of money when something goes bad. Over the years there have been some things like water heaters, garbage disposals, dryer and air conditioner that they have replaced. So it’s been a good experience for me having them.

On 3 different occasions, I was put on hold for at least 30 minutes. No representative ever came to the phone each time. AHS sent out a plumbing company that did not finish the job. I asked AHS to send out another plumbing company who can finish the job. They refused to do it so I was stuck with the bad plumber. Instead I took a cash-out and found a competent plumber on my own. However, the cash-out was not enough money to cover the expenses I incurred to finish the job.

I insisted on having a Home Warranty included in the purchase of my home last Sept. and ended up with American Home Shield. Recently I filed a claim for some electrical issues and was assigned a local Electrician. I waited to hear from then and when I did not I finally called them. The man on the phone said they were not doing work for American Home Shield anymore until they get paid from them.
I promptly called AHS and after several hours of different calls and being left on hold at one point for over an hour their solution was for me to find my own electrician and pay them out of my pocket. Then they would refund the cost to me; but wait they did not pay the electrician so will they really refund the money?? Oh and they have a list of electricians in the area they will no longer work with (I wonder why) so I have to find one other than them. Isn't the purpose of insurance to take care of problems that arise so the homeowner does not have to come up with thousands of dollars all at once to get it fixed??? THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

My experience with American Home Shield wasn't great. My first issue was the electrical problem I had with the house when I moved in. They sent a dude out who said he'd put a new breaker in and that's fine. What’s causing the issue was the ground wire up top that was leaning against the air-conditioner vent. I had Reliable Heating & Air come out and they fixed the problem $250 later.
Another issue I had was the air-conditioner. First, they said it was a leak around the nozzle where you fill it and supposedly fixed it. Obviously, it wasn't because I went through $500 worth of Freon. The next time, the guys said there was just a lot of debris around the condenser outside and cleaned up. But that wasn't the problem either. The third time, they still haven’t fixed the issue because they kept sending out the same people from Piedmont Mechanical. It took them two days to get back to me and some of their contractors are less than reputable, I think. I would never buy another one.

There was something wrong with the air conditioner unit downstairs and we were not getting any air. Two contractors came out. One gave us more Freon and the other installed the replacement part, so the unit is working very well now and we’re happy. Both contractors were very informative, knowledgeable, and even offered us information if we wanted to upgrade our system. I’ve had American Home Shield for a couple of years now and they’re usually very professional and prompt. I called them out to service about twice a year. They schedule with the service company that I request within a 24-hour period, and then the company responds to me within two days, so I’m very pleased. Overall, it was good to have. I feel like I’ll be paying a lot more without it and the service providers are very reputable companies.

I had a horrible experience with American Home Shield up until my most recent experience. They sent some incompetent air-conditioning firm out here that could not fix my air-conditioner. BestWay Mechanical came out here three times. They looked at it and disappeared. For two weeks, I didn’t hear from anybody, and I kept calling AHS. I said, “I have a heart condition. I’m in here without any air-conditioning. What is the problem?” So AHS called the contractor, and the contractor claimed that there was a leak in the coil but they never showed me the leak. They said they want $1,100 and wanted to know if I was going to have it fixed. So I said, “Go ahead and do it.” I assumed they were reliable. So, they came out, fixed it and I paid $1,095 plus $75. But it wasn’t fixed. The thermostat said it was 78 degrees and it was set at 50 to get it to cool.
So I called AHS again. The same contractor came out and said “There’s nothing wrong with it. When the humidity is high, it’s not gonna cool the way you want it to cool.” I called AHS again and they said they would ask for a senior person to come out. But they sent the same person out. But this time, he came out, didn’t even do anything and walked out the door, and I never saw him again. I called AHS again and told them they sent the same person out, and he didn’t even touch it. Finally, they sent another company out and the man from the other company said that it just needed to be cleaned. So he cleaned it and it was fixed right away. They got it fixed the first time so I was very satisfied with them. But overall, this is the first time I’ve had a bad experience like this. AHS is using BestWay Mechanical but it seems no one is satisfied with them when I looked on the web under their company name and their reviews. I was cheated out of my money.

My dryer went out. It was working but then it stopped and wouldn’t work again. I submitted a claim with AHS, which was easy to do and had a great experience doing it. I called and told them what’s going on and they took care of the rest. Their rep was very helpful and very friendly. The contractor they sent was great as well. He called me that afternoon and then he was out here at 8:30 the next morning. Our washing machine was also temperamental ever since I got it. It would run continuously if you didn’t unplug it. So, since he was here, he went ahead and added the washer to the ticket and fixed it too. He fixed the dryer and the washer within 30 minutes and was gone. I used both of them last night and they're working great after the repair. The washer has been plugged in ever since and hadn’t turned itself on. It cost me $81 to get the washer and dryer both fixed. I’d recommend AHS to anybody who owns a home.

There was a stoppage in my plumbing, and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I had to leave a voice mail and went online, and my experience with them was good once they got out there. The contractors did a good job. There's no more stoppage, bubbling toilets, and backing up in the shower so, to me, it’s great. Also, I have a door on a dishwasher that has some trim around it, and in my contract, whoever services it should be able to take care of that. However, I still haven’t had that fixed because the contractor that was going to come out to service it does not do the trim, and they said I had to call AHS and get somebody else. That's been a headache but at least I didn't have them come out or waste a trip.
I had a conversation with AHS about my contract that that should be covered and the providing company said they can't. AHS obviously knew that that service didn't happen and so rather than me having to chase them back down, I wish they had been proactive to ask what happened and follow up to find out why, instead of just letting it go. This issue has been a grey area because I wanted AHS to interpret the contract and they agreed that that should be covered. Other than that, it's been a good thing to have American Home Shield.

It was really easy submitting a claim with American Home Shield. I made one for my AC. It stopped working. I did the claim over the phone and the wait time was not even 5 minutes. It was nice dealing with the AHS rep, too. The contractor's service was good. They came out and did a temporary fix because the motherboard went bad. Thank God they got my AC to work because I had my daughter and it was 100 degrees in my house. They got it where it would work and then, once the part came in, they came back the next day and fixed it.
My AC has been working great after the repair. It worked better when they put the new motherboard in. It's constantly going and shutting off instead of just running. Now everything's back to normal. I've always heard of people having bad experiences with home warranty companies. But everything went really smooth and simple with AHS. It wasn't like a big headache and it wasn't like in some places, you make 300 questions to have to do everything. I've already had a couple of people get a home warranty after the issue I had.

We just dealt with the whole AC unit situation. The American Home Shield people were trying to do their best, but the first company they sent out didn’t know what they were doing though I tried to explain it to them on more than one occasion. We ended up calling the people that installed the AC unit because we didn’t trust the first contractor initially. We have two different units and the first time a tech came out, there was a leak coming in the master bedroom. He checked one of the units and all he did was look at the drip pan which I had already dried so there was no more leak. He ran some air into the drainage line and asked when I last had my unit serviced. He said he would service the unit so that I won't have any problem. I told him to go ahead and I paid an additional $180 for the service fee. He didn’t bother to look at the other unit.
We had to get on a plane to El Paso the very next morning and when we came back, the house was still piping hot so I called AHS who said I should do a recall. When I did that, the same company came out and the guy said that’s not the unit he serviced and I had to make a separate call to AHS so they can put in the request for him to come back out again. So I paid two service fees which took over two weeks to get it straight because the first time AHS put it in, they put it as a recall. The company refused to come out because they knew they weren't going to get paid for a recall, so back and forth with the phone on the line. They finally cleared it out and put a new one in.
On the second visit, he said the problem was a power surge and they need a compressor and a transformer. This doesn't make sense and AHS is not going to cover any of this. So my husband called the company that installed our unit, they came out, and in two hours, they had our stuff fixed. They said it was a bad transformer and it cost us $286.00. When I finally got to the supervisor of authorization, she understood my frustration. At the end of the day, AHS made it right because the supervisor approved the outside authorization and they're going to reimburse us.
It was almost a month that we were without air and it was tough because it’s the downstairs unit where the bedroom is. I would recommend AHS to friends, but they’ve got to get better at their customer service and their ridiculous call time wait. And when we called in the first time, we got the email about the vendor two days after I called. I got their information so I called them directly and asked when are we on their list to come out. They told me we're on the list for next day. But a few days later, AHS was still awaiting a response from them. Unfortunately, they were having problems submitting their trouble ticket to AHS but they didn't tell us. AHS is a great warranty company but the vendors are what's making them look bad.

When I ask for service from American Home Shield I get good contractors but the problem is their billing. I had South Tampa Pool & Spa late May or early June and they did a great job of fixing the filter on the pool pump that wasn’t working which they had to replace. They have come here before and it was the same thing, they send the email, you go on the email, click on PayPal and you pay the $75 service fee. Then later about three weeks I had another service issue and when I went online to put in my service it said I owe a service.
I called and it took 30 minutes to get somebody on the phone. Then I had to hold for another 30 minutes while they figure it out and they eventually got in touch with South Pool and they said I have paid. Since then I’ve gotten two other letters. I just got one in the mail showing me 90 days delinquent for the same $75. I called South Pool Tampa myself and they said I’ve paid and that they’ve told them a million times. I have done about five calls just getting them to straighten that out.
And in between that I’ve also had three more service issues. One time the girl told me they were aware of the problem and so they are changing the issue. So she's going to take my card and two days after the service is finished they'll automatically bill me for it so I no longer pay the service guy. Then the guy from Sears came and he said I need to give him $75. I told him I gave the girl the card and she said I no longer pay to them because of the problems I'm having. They have problems like that and they have changed the system. The guy from Sears said he doesn’t know anything about that and that he can’t do anything until he gets a new service order. So I called and again and I was on a 30-minute wait. He’s standing there so he called and he got through. They gave him a new service order showing that I paid the $75.
Then two weeks ago I was trying to put in another service order and again it said I'm a delinquent. I called and wasted another 30 minutes. It's a good thing I work from home so I keep working while I put down the phone. I don’t know if they only have five people to serve the world and I said to her that maybe it's their billing issue that they are having so many calls and people have to wait so long. She took awhile and then she came back and said that they have confirmation that I have paid the $75. But it’s not gonna clear that I have paid until August. I don’t know if I’m going to sign up with them again. This is ridiculous and annoying. I’m really upset with them and I would not recommend them. No customer should have to call more than four times and still have the same issue.

Our AC unit initially had water in the ductwork and the water started leaking between the doorway. It started dripping, almost like a little pour, up to the point, where we had to put a bucket. Home Shield sent someone out to check what was going on. The first that came out looked around and said he didn't see any water so I told him it's in the duct work so he won't see it. Then he saw there was water but he said he didn't know if he could repair it or not. I said it wasn’t a problem and Home Shield will send somebody else and surely, they did. The other company basically didn't understand why the first man didn't fix it and was trying to point fingers by saying that the last company put it in wrong.
Another company was sent out, which said the problem should’ve been taken care of because all that water needed to come out of the ductwork to see what's going on with that area. Home Shield sent the same company back and they repaired a little something saying it was an elevation problem, but it still didn't fix the problem. They told Home Shield that we needed to buy about 15 pounds of Freon and we were going to have to pay $40 a pound 'cause AHS only paid $10 a pound. My husband said he wants a second opinion because the guy told me he didn't know what the problem was. I don't want to pay $600 if we didn't know what the problem was.
The last man that was sent out was good. He went up, told us what was going on, suctioned the pipelines, put a little cap or tubing on and from what we can tell, the ductwork has been dry so far. Overall, AHS doesn't have a problem taking my money, but they have a problem responding to my claim. I’m very dissatisfied and I wouldn't recommend to anybody.

AHS is good at collecting your money but not good when it comes to servicing. I called them once back in May and then again on 8/5/17. Each time the wait to talk to a customer service rep was over 45 minutes. When I called for service in May, I was told that refrigerator is not covered but the fans are. The rep advised me to remove fans and add refrigerator which he did. I scheduled service for refrigerator online. I had to call the shop multiple times just to come out and look at the refrigerator. It took over a week to come out. When they did, I was told they have to order the part. It took them 3 weeks and multiple reminder calls to get the part and fix the refrigerator.
However, what is more upsetting is wait times to talk to accounting and/or customer service. When I spoke to AHS sales team on in May, they did something which triggered an invoice of $291. They have continued to charge my credit card for monthly payments and denying service stating I have not made monthly premium payments. I had to send them copy of my credit card statement to show that charges have been made on my credit card. Today, 8/5/17, I have been on the phone for good 4 hours with AHS already and still no resolution. Billing is telling me that Sales needs to fix the issue of billing of $291. Sales is saying it's not their issue and billing has to fix it.

The guy thought it was a lightning surge that got a capacitor severed.
I'm going to continue to have the service but I was disappointed that it's not a weekend thing as well. I did not know that they respond in business days, and our air conditioner went out on a Friday afternoon so it was a long weekend. But once they got the claim that Monday they had someone there the next day. A dryer won't be a big deal, but it was hot. I have two buddies that have signed up with American Home Shield since I've done it. The monthly cost is a minimal investment for home protection and I'm very happy.

I submitted a claim for a Whirlpool bathtub pump replacement. American Home Shield took care of it but it took a while. I had to go out and find a contractor myself because American Home Shield couldn't find one. There were people in the area who were willing to work on the pump, but American Home Shield did not know about them. They didn't have a database of local contractors here. I found a guy and had to get the authorization. But after that, the guy decided not to do that job. He didn't want to go through the paperwork.
Before that, American Home Shield put me in contact with someone out of Atlanta, which is an hour and a half away. The appointment was all set up and ready to go. However, the contractor didn't show up. I had to call American Home Shield and then they called him. The contractor set another date but didn't show up on the second date as well. And then, the contractor decided not to come at all. So, it was an ordeal getting someone out here. I had to do a lot of the work myself.
We went back to the original contractor that AHS had me contact here in town. They said they didn't do pump replacement. They only worked on the plumbing in a spa. So, that went out the window. Then, we started getting all these other contractors who didn't show up. And then, I went over and actually talked to the first contractor, Ridge Plumbing. I got a hold of the owner of the business and I showed them what needed to be done. He said it was a simple job and I just persuaded him to take the job. So, it ended up being the first contractor, but originally they didn't want to do the work.
It's a good idea to have the home warranty when you purchase a new house but I didn't want to renew it. This is a renovation project in the house and all appliances are going to be replaced. The hot water heater has already been replaced and that wasn't under warranty. Also, most of the things are going to be under warranty from their original manufacturer. So, there is no need for the home warranty.

I live in San Antonio and my AC has been broken since 14 Jul 17. I have called AHS no less than 7 times and spent hours on hold to get an authorization to fix my system. Tonight I requested a supervisor, was on hold for 2.5 hours then told they were forwarding me to a supervisor and they sent me to a voice mail box. It is 8 PM and 90 degrees in my house. We had an issue with our central air conditioning unit but dealing with American Home Shield was a challenge. I called them and they sent a third part contractor out. He did what he needed to do but he could not fix the unit and the unit needed to be replaced. He explained the issue and he said that he would write everything up and submit it to American Home Shield.
We replaced the unit but American Home Shield didn’t cover it. The technician submitted his report to American Home Shield and what he said was that the unit had failed. In the report, he indicated that it looked like a rodent had chewed some wires. Because of that, American Home Shield refused to cover a replacement. They said, “Well, a rodent chewed it, so we're not covering it.”
I have the contract and it clearly states that they don’t do pest. But if my unit has been full of bugs, I would have understood that but I can't control those circumstances. It's not like we abused the unit, we protected it and had it covered. We had a very semantic heated discussion over the word pest versus rodent. It escalated all the way to the executive level but they said “Look, we don’t have to cover it if we don’t want to. We can refuse any claim any time for any reason.”
I have a new AC and we had to pay for it out-of-pocket because they closed out the claim. I'm not going to renew and I haven’t sat down long enough to cancel my coverage with American Home Shield. I'm not going to do business with them if they're not going to cover anything that happened. There are just so many stories out there and I'm one of those many where they just want to collect premiums but they don’t want to pay anything out. My furnace failed in 2012 and American Home Shield did cover that. It's one of those things when it magically stops working, they’ll cover it.
It's almost smarter for a consumer to not use them because it doesn’t make any sense. They’ll cover it, but if there's any cause for a failure, then they're not going to cover it. I have been paying monthly premiums for almost six years now and they hide behind legal language and they can refuse any claim at any time and they have no problem telling you that. We didn’t seek them out to do business with them, the home warranty came when we purchased our house and we just continued to renew. They really don’t cover a whole lot and my word of advice is if you don’t use them within the first year, don’t renew.
Hi Susan.I hate to hear that you've had less than satisfactory experience with AHS. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible.

They called to schedule it and called again to say that they would be here within 15 minutes. They arrived on time and the plumbers were very nice and professional. After the repair, the faucet worked better than before and I can wash my dishes. American Home Shield is convenient and reliable.

I called them up, the automated line asked a few key questions, put me through to a live person, I explained my situation or what I needed, and they took care of me. I was very satisfied as they understood my needs. The contractor was top-notch too. They came out quickly and were really professional, introduced themselves, figured out the problem right away, did their job, and didn't waste my time. The process was terribly easy. I've only had one little hiccup, but it was an older unit and it was an extremely humid day so I think the thermostat was just confused. We recently purchased a home which unfortunately has had some unforeseen issues. Luckily, we thought, we had a home warranty from American Home Shield. Each phone call is a minimum of an hour. The 48 hour service call took more than a week. Claims over a certain dollar value will be rejected, followed by several more hours on the phone. I don't typically write reviews. But as I sat on hold for 30+ minutes waiting for someone to pick-up my service call, I thought what better way to use my time than to write a complaint (there was no readily apparent option to send written feedback on the AHS website. They seem to select only positive customer service reviews to post on their website.)
We requested service several days ago. The company that was identified to do our work called the next day but we did not hear the phone ring. 30 minutes later, we attempted to call back both the number in which the call came in as well as the call back number left in our voice mail. No one answered either. There was no option to leave a message. On the call back number, we several times received a message that stated "Busy". No one ever called us back. I don't completely blame AHS for this initial miss. What I do blame AHS for is exceedingly poor service recovery.
I called AHS for a status update, gave my info to the automated system, and then was transferred into limbo. I hung up and called again, this time requesting new service. Here I wait. There is no place on the AHS website to send a note stating that we have a customer service issue. You check these things out carefully when sitting on interminable hold for a representative. To be fair, when you request AHS service online and it works, it is an extremely smooth process. Like a bell curve, sometimes the repair people are excellent, sometimes just okay. By and large it is acceptable. However, when it doesn't work, the customer is punished by having to spend (now 40 minutes and counting) to get through to a customer service representative.
So, advice to AHS management. Make sure your status update service works pristinely. Because when someone calls for a status update, it means they're not getting service. Now you're taking both a customer service delivery and customer service recovery hit. Tick tock. So, now 50 minutes on hold. A voice message comes on every 5 minutes to tell me "Your call is important to us". Well, if I were that important, you would either have more people working your customer service line OR like other companies ask if you would like me to leave a message with my phone number and you can expect a call back in ## minutes/you won't lose your place in line. But no.
On a positive note, at least their hold music is not cracking and giving me a headache. They switch to a new song about every 2 minutes. But getting some repeats now that I'm paying attention. Definitely an instrumental loop every 10 minutes. And yes, now 60 minutes on hold. Their customer service reps must get ** mints as a benefit. If I wasn't writing this review, I'd be ready to tear someone a new one. Tick tock. Dang, a pause without music but now it's back. What a tease. Now 70 minutes on hold. Well, this review might serve as both a great example of AHS customer service quality as well as a case study in passive-aggressive review writing. Tick tock. Not to disappoint, I will stop when someone picks up. 75 minutes and someone picked up.
Ronald,

AHS has the worst customer service. We moved into our new house, had the vents cleaned and the furnace cleaned. Furnace had two broken parts. AHS said they were pre existing and would not cover them since (and we have heard several excuses) because "they were broke before you bought the house" even though the home inspector had the furnace running just fine. IMPORTANT if you buy a house in the summer and find yourself in a similar situation, DO NOT call them. Wait, because if we had waited until fall and then called I feel they would of covered it. But since we just moved in I believe they think we are trying to pull a fast one on them. Not the case.
Let me tell you about their customer service. Good luck getting someone who knows anything about customer service. Snotty, clueless and not at all educated about any of what they are suppose to be talking about. When I asked about my concern about the furnace guy checking for carbon monoxide the lady I talked to had not a clue what I was talking about. She could barely pronounce it and when I asked her if she knew what I was talking about she said no that her boyfriend probably takes care of it. Yikes. Educate and train your people AHS.
ALSO... if you are buying a home warranty be careful because it is a real racket on what they say they will cover and what they really cover. There is no urgency to get out to your place to fix anything. That was obvious when we had a gas leak and they wanted us to turn the gas off and someone would be out to fix it in 4 or 5 days. Really... give me a break. We paid for that one by ourselves because we were so frustrated and gas leaks are serious to us, normal people, not AHS people. JUST SAVE YOUR MONEY IN A OLD PICKLE JAR FOR REPAIRS VERSUS SPENDING MONEY WITH THESE FOLKS.

The second contractor that I requested was great because they did what they said they were going to do on time. They were able to get the pool filter fixed and repaired.
One of the past experiences I had with American Home Shield was with a pool heater. They replaced it and it subsequently failed. They tried to use a vendor out of Orlando and it took almost three months to even have the thing done. It was not repaired successfully so we had to switch vendor. That was the same vendor they tried to send me the second time so I said that there is no way I was going to do that. They said it was covered because the electrical source was coming from the house but the electrician said it wasn’t covered because it’s outside. I called AHS back and they said whatever the electrician says, it’s the right way to go. Another time, I had AHS come out to fix the toilet and the guy they sent said he fixed it. But they he said they didn't cover the wax ring on the toilet even though it was loose so I had to pay extra for that. It’s ridiculous and a scam. I’m not happy with AHS and I’ll never use them again even though I paid for it. They're not worth the money. They don’t know what they’re doing and, if they do, they’re sending people out here anyway, even though they know the claim is not covered. So I have to pay them plus the $75 fee. I had an issue with my air conditioner and the company that American Home Shield had, Comfort First Heating and Cooling was outstanding. I called them and they were here the same day. I was expecting that it would be a little bit because I live in a rural area. I had to take off and leave work to go home and meet them that same day, which was very nice because it was 90 degrees in those days. The way the young man, AJ, described it to me was I had gotten some loose wire and it grounded itself. His father was the owner and he was the supervisory individual because he took several calls while he was at my house from his other employees which did not bother me one bit. I'm a businessman as well so I understand.
He went through, took his time and diagnosed it. He found out that my capacitor wasn't working at 100 percent so he went ahead and replaced it. He then took it step-by-step of what could it be. He was concerned and ended up being able to fix it properly. However, AHS only cover $20 a pound of Freon and it is $85 a pound. For no fault to them, it’s their policy. If it would have been a compressor, I was told it would have been covered. But to recharge a new system, we need 10 pounds of Freon so I paid 650 bucks and that have been expensive on my end paying all that. Also, they replaced the capacitor because he said it was underperforming. He checked it with them, got a monitor and it should be working at 10 but it was only working at 4 so he went ahead and replaced it. Then he said that it's not the issue because the AC didn't kick on so he kept digging and digging and finally found the issue. But we need not pull the compressor out.
I was very, very, very pleased and anything dealing with Comfort First Heating and Cooling has been working fine. Everything is running professionally. I would recommend both companies especially AHS to my friends after things like this.

I’m a long-time client and I had trouble with some of the repair people AHS called several years ago. One guy came to fix a leaky toilet and the toilet was still leaking when he left, so AHS sent somebody else. This summer, American Shield sent someone to fix my air conditioner. They decided it was a leak in my line from my air conditioner to my house. I paid $400 to $600 to have that fixed and the Freon refilled. The next time I turn my air conditioner on, it still wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield and they called that repair person. He would not come back, so they sent someone else who came in and said my condenser needed repairs inside. I spent a couple of weeks in a hot house, but they fixed it and I spent about $1,000 in all. AHS gave me credit for the first repair, which I appreciated. They gave $10 a unit in credit for the gas that air conditioners need. In St. Louis, it’s $85 or $95 a unit.
I got a new policy number, so on June 12 I called to make sure it’s going to be on my credit card going forward to keep my monthly bill up ‘cause I pay on a monthly basis. However, when I needed them in an emergency situation, I could not get any help. I had a drain line from the house that was backed up and I couldn’t flush the toilet. It was over 100 degrees and I had company coming, so I needed a sewer guy to fix it and called American Home Shield. I was on hold for 35 minutes. I gave up because by then it was 5 o’ clock and I had to get somebody. I went online to American Home Shield, and they said my policy had been closed and no longer effective. I got the billing number, got offline and called. It said my policy had been cancelled for non-payment and I owed $600 plus.
I put in the number to talk to a representative to tell them I called a few weeks ago to make sure they had my credit card number. If they go back to June 12, they will find a recording that I gave my credit card and told them to charge it every month to make sure I had continuing coverage. I was on hold for 10 minutes. By then, I was afraid I wasn’t ever going to get anyone to unplug my line from my house that night. I hung up and hired an outside sewer guy that came and spent several hours here. It cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket that I shouldn’t have had to spend because American Home Shield would not pick up and because they had canceled my policy even though they had my credit card.
I saw an email that asked about my most recent experience, but I didn’t respond and assumed they were talking about the air conditioning problem, not the time I was trying to reach them when I needed them. They have poor customer service and I’m not happy with American Home Shield right now. I’ll find another policy or I'll pay going forward. I would have liked to have kept it if they had a better response time this last time, but when you’re in an emergency in your house, sitting on hold for 35 minutes is unacceptable. If they want to call and talk about fixing my problem, I would consider a discussion with them.
I am one of the social media specialists at American Home Shield and I would like to follow up with you in regards to the AC work order that was placed in April. I understand that you have canceled your contract due to the lack of service and out of pocket expenses.

I've had some successful claims with American Home Shield but I had a horrible experience with them. My most recent claim was on my hot water heater that was leaking from two valves. I called for it to be repaired. I submitted my claim online and I found their website to be fine to navigate. There wasn't a lot of interaction on the phone. I went online, requested service, waited 24 hours, then somebody called me from whoever they assign my case to. This occurred during near the weekend so we had to wait over the weekend for that. We had water from the hot water heater because the valve was failing when it would build up pressure when you use the hot water heater. It was flooding a corner in our garage.
I would go out four times a day and sweep the water out so that we don't damage to our drywall or floorboard in the garage while waiting for our appointment. But then 24 hours before the contractor came out, we stopped using the hot water heater so that it wasn't flooding. When he came out, we didn’t have a flood. The contractor was great and wanted to make a repair. I think he diagnosed it correctly. He wants to replace the two valves. When he reported back to AHS, I talked to somebody who left a message who condescendingly said that the valve is a pressure valve and that's what it does. I then told him that it's not supposed to flood my garage. The contractor argued with him for about 25 minutes in the truck and I stood there watching while they did that. AHS said they would not pay the claim. After a week and a half of fighting with AHS, I went out and bought a new hot water heater that I did not need to buy.
Another claim we had was for our refrigerator. It was aging and started failing. AHS told us that the part we need was not available anymore, and insisted that they take the unit for 6 to 8 weeks to fabricate the part and solve the problem. It was not a good solution and we did not allow them to do that. I told them I can't afford to lose my refrigerator for such a long time and I'm going to lose my food. I told them that they should be replacing something if they can't fix it, but they go out of their way not to replace anything. We told them that we'd buy a new one and we went to Sears' scratch and dent. However, they wouldn't allow us to do that. We had to go buy a brand-new one or they wouldn't cover it. It’s just we didn’t care if it had a scratch on the side, but they wouldn’t cover it then if we did that.
So, I'm not happy with them. But that’s how AHS works. I've had them for years and on three different houses. One rental, one investment property, our other house we just sold our house last year and bought a different one. I’ve had them for years. They go out of their way to not pay a claim. That's their way of working. I already sent them a letter and they've already responded to it. I don't think it's going to help them improve. It's very silly to go out of their way to not pay things because of all the people who scam them. I have a home we bought for my parents to live in when the market was good.
We've had AHS on it for 10 years. Since we found it, I've never turned one claim in on that. I'm not a thief but there are people out there who scam them and I'm the one who gets punished for it. They make it so difficult to have a claim because of the bad people. We're not big claim abusers. If it's something simple, we just go take care of it ourselves. It's a lot of pain. I have them because I think it's necessary. I dread having a problem. I wish they were interested in paying valid claims.
I am one of the social media specialists at American Home SHield and I would like to follow up with you in regard to the water heater repairs.
Thank you,

Have usually had a good experience with American Home Shield but definitely not this time. Septic system has been clogged/backed up since Saturday. Can not flush toilets or take showers. Have been waiting for AHS to find a company to help us since Tuesday. It’s been 3 days and have had no help. Horrible service, would definitely not recommend.

I have had AHS in the past and I have had a very good experience. However recently after having renewed my coverage I am very disappointed with the service, especially when calling to request service. Whenever I called I was put on hold for longer than 45 minutes. This is unacceptable! When I made my request (freezer was leaking) it was on a Sunday... I was told the earliest will be on Tuesday between 8-12 noon. Well Tuesday by noon no one showed up. I called AHS and was told that the service call was for a week from Tuesday between 8-5pm. Again, unacceptable. I told them I need someone out immediately. They sent another contractor, they came out, figured out the problem and now waiting on parts.
While waiting for more than several days I found out that I didn't have coverage for my appliances. Well I would think that your representative would have told me that instead of overriding my contract and taking $75.00 out of my account. I called the corporate office several times and I will be getting my money back via check. Needless to say I canceled my contract with them. I will not recommend this company to ANYONE!!! For this company to be considered #1 (although I don't know how this is) there should be no way you should be on hold for no longer than 5 minutes. I had to cool down before even writing this review... otherwise this would've been a lot harsher in word usage.
I am one of the social media specialists at American Home Shield and I would be glad to speak with you in regards to your ice maker service requests.

My God, where do I start? Well first of all, if you ever call in, expect to be on hold for 30 minutes minimum and may last over an hour. My biggest issue with this so called highly rated company (self-congratulatory lies), is that their customer service reps NEVER do what they say they will do. I had a plumbing issue where I needed to have the same plumber come out for the same problem within a week of the initial visit. I was tired of waiting on hold forever, so I decided to create another service request online. Gigantic mistake! I was told that would create a new work order and a new service fee. I quickly realized this and called back to correct the situation.
All of the following has been thoroughly documented: First Rep named Gwen says she will erase new work order and put back on previous work order so I would not get a new service fee. **!!! AHS sends me a notice that I forgot to pay the new service fee!!! I call the second rep named Lawanda (guessing on the spelling), and she tells me that she will send a email to the plumber to correct this. **!!! No email is ever sent because I keep reminder notices that I need to pay new service fee. I call a third time and spoke to Tamika and told her to speak to Marcy at Mr. Rooter to clear this crap up. Tamika calls Marcy and the situation is resolved supposedly. Tamika says that she will issue a request from her billing dept to take off this new service fee. Tamika says it will 2-3 days. **!!! Two weeks pass and guess what, the new service fee is still on the account.
I call a fourth time and ask to speak to a manager, and this rep named William tells me there are no managers! What kind of call center is this that has no managers = PURE MAJOR CRAPPY CUSTOMER SERVICE INDICATOR!!! He proceeds to tell me that a manager will call me in 24-48 hours. Guess what, **!!! I never get a call. So all my calls, all of me waiting for hours on the phone, all of my explaining has amounted to ZERO EFFORT from AHS. All their reps basically tell you ** lies to simulate customer service, but in reality do absolutely nothing. I have everything documented and recorded (yes in Texas it is legal), and I will use this in court if I have to. I have everything documented but none of the reps keep notes on any conversations or basically ignore previous notes (sparsely noted).
If you look at this company's rating at BBB you will see many complaints. The only high reviews on the web for this company is from home warranty review sites which are all bogus and are self-perpetuating their bogus claims of good customer service. To all people who read this, do yourself a favor and read the complaints. There is an accumulation of evidence to corroborate my story here.
I am calling them for the 5th time today and if the situation does not get resolved I will quit them for sure (however, almost all home warranty companies are about the same = you pay service fees, monthly fees, and get mediocre service and repairs in return). If my situation doesn't get resolved, I will go to many review sites as possible and leave very negative reviews about this company (this review was written to alleviate some of my frustration, short of driving to their call centers and screaming at them). It is the least I can do for all the time and effort that I wasted with this company. Be forewarned potential AHS customers, you will suffer!!!
I would be glad to speak with you in regards to your most recent experience with American Home Shield. I emailed you and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

This company will send cut rate contractors to damage your house and then charge you for the privilege! Caveat emptor, any insurance scam like this should be illegal but in this day and age it is up to the consumer to smell a rat like AHS and avoid it. My wife and I bought a house in January and were forced to buy a home warranty (NC state law) so we went along with it. Then we found a rusted out pipe under our sink was leaking so I called American Home Shield to try to get it fixed.
They sent Sam from Home Services of the Triad, he proceeded to break the drain out of our sink, waste 2 hours trying to fix that damage (it leaked afterwards) and cracked the drain pipe elbow in the wall. He then asked how I wanted to pay... Now the home warranty company wants $75 for a "diagnostic fee." This is effectively theft, they stole money from me after promising to fix plumbing/electrical problems. When I called to complain my only recourse was to get $40 back out of $465 I paid them 7 months ago. TLDR; save your money and learn to do your own plumbing work or call someone that you trust.
I would be glad to follow up with you in regards to your most recent experience on the leak service requests.

I recently signed up for American Home Shield (AHS) as a precautionary for my home that house my family and I. I called and spoke with "Jerry" who assured me that my family's property would be protected and I would have no stress in making any repairs or any account adjustments. He said all I would have to do is call customer service line or wait my 30 days waiting period to initiate a claim online and then we would have 30 additional days from that "activation date to cancel and receive a full refund.
Well lo and behold, with the storms that have gone through the midwest, my family's backup sump pump is failing (water powered and is leaking and at times spraying). So I logged in online to submit a claim on 08/01/17 at 1:17 PM, received a notification a contractor would contact me within 2-24 hours. I am sitting here on my laptop at 11:30 PM and have not received a notification or contact from the IWIG Plumbing contractor as clearly texted to my phone (Evidence). Sump pump still leaking and getting very aggravated.
When I have attempted to call AHS approximately 13 times now at all given numbers listed by BBB, the email received to confirm we had a contract, AHS.com (which has a contact section, that briefly displays a section "let us contact you" form that disappears in seconds of opening the link), Consumer Affairs, Yellow Pages and have been on hold for up to 2 hours and then disconnected by AHS!!! That is enough to make a content person go insane.
That hours of my life spent trying to have faith and rectify a problem that has kept me from family time. This is very wrong for a home insurance company to not be reachable by its consumers. I will be putting all efforts into canceling this so called "insurance" and getting my refund. Still have a service request that will now be on my family, which has just had a new addition to our family. Thanks a lot AHS for being another company that takes and not gives two cents about its clients! American Home Shield, should you be reading this, someone needs to call me so that we can cancel my contract and get me a refund. You have failed to hold up to the contract that verbally arranged and agreed upon, this is what is called breach of contract and extremely bad customer service.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you received due to the contractor taking longer than 24 hours to contact you. Also, I understand that you canceled your contract, but I would be glad to speak with you in regard to the situation.
Thank you,

Yes, my claim with American Home Shield has been resolved outside of ConsumerAffairs. A representative from the company called me yesterday. The insurance claim has been resolved and all personnel I had dealings with at American Home Shield were pleasant. The representative has assured me that the company is working to rectify the extremely long telephone wait times in the call center and the inability of consumers to get in touch with the company for services. Should the issue at the call center be cleared up, I would provide a new star rating of 4.

Reason for review is broken air conditioning unit. My experience was horrible. It took me three days in the hot Louisiana heat to get through to customer service with call volumes so high that the minimum wait times during the day and early evening hours were over an hour. What was interesting is that when I called the sales line in hopes of getting another call in number, there were no wait times for the sales department. This company is sure to staff up and sell the home warranties to people but they don't staff up to service the issues that people are having with their homes.
Even more interesting, is that the sales people - a) always suggested that I call after 10pm (which was still a minimum 30-minute wait time); and b) could not provide me with any other contact numbers to complain about the inability to get service. I don't think this company realizes that people can't be expected to call them in the evening for service when we have jobs to go to in the morning!
To add insult to injury - Once my air conditioner was serviced for the FIRST time, they sent out an inexperienced tech and the gentleman couldn't find the A/C leak so he ultimately decides to just put a liquid 'leak fix' in the unit. Not even a day later, I am now on round two of contacting the customer service department with American Home Shield because the unit is still broken. And once again I was told earlier today by the sales people that I needed to call this evening after 10pm. I just got a second visit set up, but this has to be unethical for a company to sell more policies than they can actually service??? This company has no concept of what the words "customer service" mean. I'd love to know their call abandonment rate, their average time to answer calls, and their customer service satisfaction rate for service calls.
I am one of the social media specialists at American Home Shield and I would like ot speak with you in regards to the AC repairs that were completed and the delay in service that you received.

American Home Shield is a complete waste of money. The definition of insurance is to transfer risk. When purchasing our home a little less than a year ago, we bought insurance to transfer this risk of potential problems including plumbing. After discovering a leak in the upstairs bathroom, we paid the $75 deductible for the contracted plumber to fix. The plumber cut a hole in our Sheetrock and looked at the problem. The trap is an older trap and apparently not up to current code. American Home Shield denied the claim as to repair the problem is "bringing the home to code" which is not covered in the legal ease of the contract.
So, after sitting at the closing table with the realtors a few months ago concerned about these potential problems we were sold on a warranty which would cover these very such repairs. Then an issue arises and the company hides behind contractual language. If this isn't a bait and switch, I don't know what is. Feel free to pay good money for something that doesn't exist especially if you enjoy wasting money. It's like any insurance company that will screw you at the first opportunity possible.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I do not know what company your southern US customers are referring to, but AHS out here in Arizona sucks. It is not the repair companies and individuals who come to do the service. They are generally very polite and competent. It is the AHS headquarters system from getting something scheduled to getting it approved for repair to getting it repaired and/or getting reimbursed.
Right now it took a couple of days to get the repair scheduled. Then the repair company told me they had to order a part, not sure how long it will take to get it or install it. It is 105 degrees here in Phoenix. Plus this is the third time this company has been sent out to repair this unit this year! This is unacceptable. Trying to talk to a live person is difficult, and, usually disappointing. The last time I was on the phone with the customer service person for 45 minutes, asked to be switched to a manager three times. Finally was told a manager would call me back the next day. That was over a week ago. Today when I called to see if I can expedite the AC issue, the system said I would be on hold over an hour! Need I say more! I hate to go the lawyer route, but customers must speak up to get the respect they deserve.
I understand that concerns that you have with AHS due to the delay in service you have experienced during the 105-degree temperature. I would be glad to resolve the issues and follow up with you.

The air conditioning wasn't cooling so I called American Home Shield and they dispatched a person out for me. The contractor was nice enough and saw the problem. But I had to contact them a couple of times because they were gonna order the part and get back to me and it was a few days more than the days that he had mentioned. So when I called, it wasn't a problem and they immediately said that the order didn't come in, but they were able to get back in time and I've been happy with the experience.

I had a plumbing and bathtub faucet issue and American Home Shield has been prompt and professional in fixing the issues. I called and spoke to a representative who set up the claim and appointment. He walked me through the process and made it easy. He knew what I was talking about, gave me a bunch of details, and got my claim to the right contractor. Within two minutes after I hung up with him, I got a verification of a plumber coming. Then within three hours, the company called and set up an appointment. The contractor was right on time, very pleasant and easy to deal with. They did their job and left, and everything was perfect. If I'll buy a house, I’ll be using AHS. It's worth it.

The biggest issue we've had was that we have a unique heating and cooling system that took three weeks to resolve but I still don’t think it's done because the cooling portion was not cooling. If it gets warm outside, 85 to 95 degrees, the unit comes on and it runs all day long and it doesn’t seem like it's operating correctly.
They sent out a heating and air conditioning guy the first time we called and we paid the $75 service fee and he said, “Not my problem. It's your pump.” I called American Home Shield back and they said that our pump was not covered. Then we had to call a plumber on our own and $150 later he said, “Not my problem. You need an electrician.” We called American Home Shield back and they said, “Oh well, an electrician is covered. Here’s your $75.” I said “Wait a minute, it's the same problem. You didn’t resolve it the first time, so this should be the same issue and the same ticket.”
Then they agreed and don’t have to pay $75. And they sent out an electrician who said, “Oh, not my problem. You need and HVAC guy.” We're back to where we started. I called American Home Shield back and I said, “Listen, we're going on three weeks without cold air and we live in Florida. This is not a good and happy thing.” And she said, “Okay.” Then said, “Oh, you’ve got a geothermal heat pump water to air open loop system. Your pump would have been covered. It’s our bad.”
This is not the most stellar of experiences and now I got a bill from them because they sent a HVAC guy that knew what he was doing and what kind of system we have. Although he got it fixed, they did say it is still related to the first issue. The next week, we had to call them back and they said, “Oh, this is a brand new call.” No it’s not and this is still the same issue. It's getting colder, because the guy that finally came out here did resolve two issues, but we were still having some problems. It's not getting cold enough and the unit runs all day and I still need to call them back. They said, “Oh well. Sorry. I don’t know how to tie that back to the original call ticket, so you're going to have to pay $75.” I said, “You know what, do whatever you got to do, fine, but just get somebody out here.”
They charged us the $75 and then they refunded it and were able to tie it back to the original ticket. They also sent out a guy that said, “Oh, you're low on Freon.” And he put a pound of Freon in but American Home Shield will not pay his X dollar amount and we had to pay $40 out of pocket. It’s fine because it's on the contract, but then I got a bill for the $75 service call. I need to call them back and say that this is all tied together and I don’t owe $75 again and they said, “Send me a copy of the bill for the plumber and we'll see if we can get you reimbursed,” but the email I got was not a valid email and I could never get a hold of them again.
We relocated and we’re getting unpacked and trying to get the house situated because the first three weeks, nothing got done then we finally got some portable room air conditioners. Also, our garage door doesn’t operate correctly and I haven’t called them about it yet because it put me off and I'm not ready to deal with the hassle. It really has saved us money but it has been frustrating. Our experience has been atypical but I would recommend American Home Shield. If you're buying a home you should probably get a home warranty because it does protect a new homeowner. If they're the only game in town, you're better off paying them and take your chance.

We've been with American Home Shield for about 15 years now and with my recent experience with them, I've been very dissatisfied. It started in June with our air conditioner. On June the 2nd, we called out A-1 Air Conditioning out in Heber Springs. They came out, cleaned the unit and said it needed Freon. I paid for the Freon and the service fee. Two weeks later, it quit working. The blade quit turning outside and it was 90 degrees. I have lupus and a heart problem and my husband has Alzheimer’s so I explained everything to AHS and they said they would put it on as an emergency. That was about 3:00 in the afternoon and we stayed here because it's hard to get my husband moved around, but I never heard from AHS or the company. At 7:00, I called AHS back and they said that somebody would be out the next day. It was already 8:00 so we stayed in the house.
The next day, about 2:00 somebody came out. We had some friends come and pick us up and I had to move everything to their house and we couldn't stay here. The technician put a new blade in because the old one quit turning completely and said that the air would be fine. We spent the night out because it took that long to get the house cooled. We came in the next morning and I heard this terrible rattling sound. You could hear it from the street rattling and the neighbors next-door had to sleep with it like that. I went out and took a video on my iPad of how bad the sound was. I was so angry at that point. I'm 77 and was so upset with all these. I couldn't deal with stress very well at all during that period and it was hard for me to even make decisions.
Also, the technician just used some ties to hold the blade up. I was not pleased the company. I called them and told them that my air conditioner was rattling all over the place. The technician came out that afternoon and said they don't make blades for my air conditioner anymore because it's 20 years old. He had to go get a bigger blade and put it in the air conditioner but it was too big that's why the rattling was going on. I asked why he did not call AHS and he said that was not the way it worked. He said that all he could do was file a thing and then it was AHS's decision what to do. I had been on the phone with AHS and I told him that AHS told me that I could have an air conditioner if he filed the report.
I went back and forth on the phone for seven hours off and on all day Wednesday with AHS and the contractor. The worst thing was being put on hold so much. It was 45 minutes at one time and an hour another time. I know the air conditioners are going out and it's summer, but still there ought to be some way for me not to have to be on that phone 45 minutes waiting for an answer. Their help here was as bad as that, but every person I talked to with AHS had been wonderful. They were understanding, kind and sweet. I had one girl stay on the line with me and she tried her best. She even told me she got on the phone and talked to this company to get this done while we were talking. But even though I'm complimenting on the people, the service was very disappointing. They kept saying they were going to an emergency thing too but I never got an emergency thing because it was over 24 hours when I got my service out here.
Then when the technicians were putting my air conditioner in, they broke my gas exhaust. I just happened to come back to get some clothes when they were here. I asked how things were going and the technician said they think they broke a pipe. I asked them if they were leaving it like that and they said they would be back as soon as they could to work it in as they were so busy right then.
Also, they were working outside and I didn't mind them coming in my house. But, when I walked into the house, the doors going into my laundry room and my kitchen were both open, as well as my kitchen window. I had three doors and I didn't mind my garage door open but there was no reason to have my other doors open. We have some snakes in the area and I keep my doors closed. That was another thing and it was not professional. I would not want to use them again, if not for the pipe they have to fix. They called me yesterday and they're supposed to be coming on Monday to fix that.
I didn’t know where the problem was, whether it was AHS or the contractor because the contractor would tell me one thing and American Home Shield would tell me another thing. But I was very unsatisfied. However, AHS gave me $125 to go buy a smaller air conditioner through this period since I've gone through so much. I've got good service that I could go spend up to $125 on a small air conditioning unit but I didn’t do that because I didn’t have the $100 to go out and spend. I live on Social Security and I don’t have any extra at all, but I'm thankful that they offered it to me.
Hi Wadie. I hate to hear that you've had less than satisfactory experience with AHS. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible.

Our air conditioner wasn't working very well so we called American Home Shield and their claims rep was very helpful. It was the day that we qualified to file a claim and the gentleman that took the call went in details and made sure that we were taken cared of. It took about 12 hours or so for the contractor to call me and then set up an appointment. Unfortunately, it was really hot and it took a couple of days for them to be able to come out and look at the problem.
But the gentleman that they sent out was very, very thorough, went above and beyond, and took care of us. He didn't just put some Freon in the AC and call it good, he also found all kinds of problems with the system and then he ordered parts. It took a good two weeks or so before we are really up and running because the parts needed to be ordered and shipped. He stayed very late working on things and he wanted to make sure that things were done right and thorough. So, I was very impressed with him. The AC’s performance has been wonderful since the repair. It's an excellent service and we're very happy and pleased.

My refrigerator stops being cold along with the freezer, and working with American Home Shield was fine. They were very good. It was working with Miller Appliance that was horrible, and I would never recommend them to anyone. They have 48 hours from when you submit your claim to come out to your house. It was all weekend. I submitted it on a Thursday and they came on a Tuesday of the next week. I have two young kids and I was without a refrigerator and freezer for six days before anyone looked at it. And then, they looked at it and told my uncle who was there with my kids that day, that they knew what it was, and that the part would take four to five days to come in, but it'll be two and a half weeks before I could get the part installed.
Also, the person who installed the piece was going on vacation. Therefore, I was without a refrigerator for almost three weeks but they did come earlier than they said once I called American Home Shield back and they made an issue also. American Home Shield is good however, it does not pick the best contractors to work with and we've had not so great experiences before. Nevertheless, I let them know that I think they need to get better quality contractors if they want to keep people using their home warranty.

I was very displeased with the customer service (cumulative hours spent on hold) and the payout AHS decided was appropriate when my air conditioner broke. They only allowed $501 for a compressor replacement and I asked for "cash out" so I could replace the unit since it was 20 years old. Even the repairman said it would be considerably over $501 for the compressor replacement. AHS said it was because they got a discount.
So I accepted the $501 (no other choice really) and replaced the entire unit. I posted a very unfavorable review on several sites. A person from the review department contacted me and said she would look into it and see if there was a way for them to increase the payout based on my situation. She was the first person I talked to at AHS that really acted like she could help me.
After a few weeks she contacted me again and said they decided I was due an ADDITIONAL $1800, for a total of $2301. I was very pleased that they adjusted my payout but not so pleased that I had to go through so much trouble and time to get them to review the situation. I have been covered with them for several years and any small repair was handled properly although the customer service line is horrible, even for the contractors. I eventually canceled my coverage with AHS but I am satisfied with the adjusted payout. Thanks whoever you are that took care of this for me!

I have used AHS for years and they are fine for small repair work. Sometimes I would have probably saved money by calling a repairmen direct instead of paying the service fee but still ok service. That all ENDED when my 20+ year old AC went out. I have had it fixed several times, paying the service fee each time plus the overage for coolant! This time it is the compressor and I understand that AHS will only give me the cost of the compressor if I want to "cash out" and absorb the cost of a new unit which is the prudent thing to do.
I have had to call them 3 times (so far) and on hold for over an hour each time. They said I will have to pay $660 for coolant ($75 service fee) plus they will only give me "up to" $500 for the compressor even though it would cost over $1500 at a minimum to fix it. I would gladly pay the difference and get a new unit but $500 towards a new unit??? And they say I have no other recourse. Now I have to call them again 8-5 CST and wait over an hour to talk to the Options people. This is getting crazy ridiculous. They are fine as long as it is a small repair but the $500 offer for a new compressor is not fine. I do not recommend AHS.
I am one of the social media specialists at AHS. I understand your concerns with your most recent AC service requests and the customer service you have received. would like to follow up with you and help get the issues repaired.

Our home air-conditioning went out this past Thursday afternoon. I called AHS and reported the outage. AHS contacted the local vendor that would do the repair and gave them 24 hours to respond to our call. Caroline at AHS explain to me that they had 24 hours of work week business days and that is why they had not contacted me to schedule an appointment. I explained to Carolyn that we are in a part of the country that is in the throes of a heat wave with temperatures at 97, 98 and 100 degrees. I also explained to Caroline that I'm disabled and the heat is physically making me ill. She then did something that I did not expect, she told me that that is a special circumstance in that the situation would qualify for an expedited service call.
She then contacted Hurliman Air Conditioning and the service representative was at my house within an hour. I need to add the fact that this was on a Saturday. Cameron, the service tech for Hurliman Air Conditioning, was wonderful and even though he had to order a special blower motor for our furnace/air-conditioner he did it and had it installed first thing the next morning. I am so impressed with both companies I can't begin to tell you what it meant to me so yes I highly recommend both of these companies.

He called into AHS giving them full detail of the issue and told us they should be in contact with us in the next day or two regarding the replacement process. This was on a Friday, so I figured maybe Tuesday. So, hearing nothing from them, I called and they said, "Oh, no - your machine is only 4 -1/2 years old, it needs to be fixed - we will contact Sears again and get back to you." This went on for four more days, they kept saying they'll get back to me with no response.
Finally, I got in touch with a caring Rep at AHS & he promised to get back to me by the next day with information. Someone finally called me the next afternoon (the second Friday after the machine broke) and said they would like to send another company out, because they basically didn't trust Sears or didn't want to replace the machine. So they sent someone from a local company that looked at it for about 2 minutes and said they knew exactly what the problem was & they would have to order parts. I didn't care - I just wanted a working machine - old or new. This was on a Monday and I called several times that week to find out when they would be getting back to me - they finally called me on Thursday and made an appointment for the following week. Thinking the machine would finally get fixed, I tried to continue to be patient. This was a hoax - they couldn't come until Wednesday because they needed two techs to repair the machine.
After being there for several hours, they said they needed to order another part. They got the part that FRIDAY (third Friday now) and didn't call me until Monday (after I called them) and came out the next day. After installing the additional part, the guy said the machine COULD NOT be repaired. He had done all he could and he would report this to AHS, AGAIN recommending replacement. I was so irate, I didn't call AHS in fear I might say something mean. I waited until the next day when they responded that they wanted a THIRD opinion on the machine by Whirlpool. I was beside myself - why would they send out incompetent people - apparently they think this if they don't trust their opinion? I for the life of me cannot understand why they want to spend SO much money on service calls and parts (my machine costs under $500) and inconvenience me so VERY much? This is the most ridiculous thing.
We have actually gone out and bought a new (comparable) machine with our own funds which will come on Friday. However, I'm still going to let them follow up and spend all the money they want trying to fix my piece of junk machine that is UNREPAIRABLE. I have been out five half days of work between myself, my daughter and my husband. Have not had a machine since July 5. And they want to send someone else out, see if they can fix it and order MORE parts?! I am totally done with this company after this fiasco is done. I've been with them for several years, but this has ruined their reputation for me.
The representatives at AHS are professional and kind, as I believe they are trained this way; I'm not complaining about them - I'm complaining about the Authorization department and their bad decisions. Also, HUGE complaints by the Service Techs from Sears, Whirlpool and Local Company that they have wait times of up to 1 - 2-1/2 hours on the phone to get thru to AHS with their diagnosis. This is sick.
I understand your frustration with the service requests that was placed on your washer. I will be contacting you to follow up.

Our water heater broke. AHS sent us a service company that never treated us like a customer and then tried to gouge us in $570 of additional costs. AHS offered no assistance in arbitrating the situation, but they would provide 100% coverage on the tank. I denied service to their assigned rep, and got cash replacement cost covering only 57% of a standard tank replacement. WHY have I been paying AHS money, who forces me to use their service reps, and then if you try to resolve it through your own contracted licensed service provider, then I only get 57% coverage. NEVER AGAIN, cancelled! Now the question is WHY would you pay them money? Set the money aside and use service providers you trust.

My refrigerator was draining, it was freezing at the bottom and water was dripping on my floor. I called AHS and submitted a claim for that which was easy. The rep I talked to was very professional, explained all the procedures that I was going to take for this and who the contact person was. Then the contractor who came out was very knowledgeable and gave me some tips on things to do as preventive measures. The refrigerator is doing great since the repair and I wish I had AHS to call a long time ago.
When I had a plumbing problem, I had Roto-Rooter come out and fix it. I ended up having to pay for it. I forgot I had AHS and that I could’ve had the service done through them. When I called AHS to ask if they could assist me with the bill, no one seemed to find the supervisor and help me. Other than that, their program is excellent. If they can’t fix the appliance, they will give their customer a new one. It’s a great deal and can’t be beaten. AHS is highly recommendable and important to homeowners, even those who are in apartments. I got my mom to join and my sister is wanting to join as well. But AHS need some type of incentive for a customer who recommends people to their company. I called them about it but they don’t have anything.

In my 51 years of life, I've never gone on a public forum to negatively comment on a business. But frankly, my recent experience with American Home Shield has shown me just how customer service is no longer a priority and how the best insurance policy is one that involves putting cash in a mason jar and burying it in your back yard. I'm only giving American Home Shield one star because I cannot give them anything less. After paying them every month for 10 years, AHS is refusing to pay for a/c repairs (and replacement) because their preferred technician failed to properly diagnose and repair the issue not once but twice. After the third breakdown, AHS was contacted, and AHS promised an expedited visit by another of their vendors because of health issues that were complicated by the July heat.
After hearing nothing from the promised vendor, AHS was contacted again, and we were told that they had not heard back from the vendor and did not offer to contact another one. A simple on-line search provided us several a/c companies to check with, all of whom were highly rated and offered same day service. Because of the extreme heat, we contacted one, was serviced by that company immediately and we paid the expenses incurred. That same vendor was quick, efficient, and was very candid with us regarding the life of the unit. Basically, it is time to replace the unit and now AHS is refusing to pay for the replacement because they did not authorize the vendor we were forced to look for to come out. They also will not reimburse any of the out-of-pocket expenses incurred though AHS failed to live up their promise of expedited service. A total 10-year waste of money to people who don't follow through on promises.

Hold times of 30 minutes to over an hour. We have been trying to get our washer and dryer repaired for almost 6 weeks. AHS sent Lafayette Services out 6 weeks ago. We were told parts had to be ordered for both machines. Lafayette came back 2 weeks later and said they fixed the washer but had to reorder the dryer part because it came in damaged. The washer still did not work. We have called AHS 11 times in the past 3 weeks only to be left on hold for 30 minutes to over an hour. They keep saying that they are trying to reach Lafayette. They also told me that no part had been ordered for the dryer. I have asked for another repair company and for a supervisor to call me and neither has happened. There is a class action suit being started against this company.

Emergency plumbing - not available on Most Expensive Plan. Bought a home with the highest coverage. Tried to use the online request for service but it did not register my contract number, so I called the 1-800 service number, which I believe is manned by a India call center from the broken English of the Customer Service Representative. I should have selected Spanish. The conversation may have turned out differently.
First, it took 40 mins to get to a customer service rep, then there were some communication issues. Finally, I got him to understand that my faucet to the master bath was severely leaking and water was standing in my bathroom. I just bought the home four days ago and not sure how to turn off the water at the main. I need a plumber ASAP, today. The customer service rep informed me that he needed a card to bill my deductible before he could send out someone–no problem, gave him the information. Then he proceeded to tell me that the servicing company would come out sometime tomorrow–AHS does not offer 24-hour service. So much for emergency repairs. Most of the time repairs are emergencies. This service is a scam. Don't buy into it. I lost $75.00 plus the $675 plus I am now paying full price for an emergency plumbing call. AHS is a rip off.
I would be glad to follow up with you in regards to the service requests that was placed on the leak. I will be contacting you soon.

The contractor looked at the premise, went outside and looked at the unit. Then he cleaned the unit, got it going and left. But I had to pay money on top of the warranty fees and I don't know why. They charged me $70. But the ac works great now.

Our air conditioner stopped working and so we submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. However, the companies that they contract with were overloaded. And so, it took several days to get someone out, which was frustrating because it was really hot. But, once their contractor came out, they fixed my unit. Since the repair, the performance of my air conditioner has been great.

I call American Home Shield to submit my claims and it has been good and easy to do. When you call, they ask you what type of problem you're having. I recently had a problem with my AC and I explained what was wrong. They said that I will receive a text, and they scheduled a visit with the AC company. The AC guys were good people. They came out and took care of it. However, they had to come back on the last one, which made it the third time they've worked on my unit. They fixed it and then it's not working. I guess one of the defrosters was ticking. They fixed that instead and it's working fine ever since. I've recommended American Home Shield to three of my friends and they all signed up with them.

My air conditioner wasn't cooling and the fan wouldn’t cycle on auto. That's my most recent claim with American Home Shield. I called and submitted the claim and I immediately got a date set for the contractor to come out. They came on the date and they were able to fix the problem. They gave me a lot of training. They were telling me how to keep the problem from re-occurring. I had a good experience with this particular person that came out.
American Home Shield have completed my claims when needed. However, I felt some things were unfair. I had an issue with the water heater and they were telling me that there has to be some upgrades and stuff. The vendor that was going to do it wanted to charge an astronomical amount. I was able to get it done outside of that vendor and American Home Shield reimbursed me for whatever. But, I still had to pay some. It worked out all right but I felt like they should have taken care of the whole thing. It has been equitable for the most part though.

I had a sewage problem. We had some leaking going off in the plumbing in the house. American Home Shield was easy to deal with. I just called them, they sent somebody out, and that was it. The representative I spoke with was very helpful, but the contractor was horrible. They charged for one thing then again for another.
For instance, charging the tool that was in the house to clean the pipe because they couldn’t find the clean-out. But then, the next time they came out, they found the clean-out. So, you had an extra charge for no reason. A text message was received that they were on the way. I canceled it and they still came. That's when they found the clean-out. Then they tried to charge for something that wasn’t authorized. But I handled that independently with the company. I got pissed, so I opted to get it repaired by someone else and paid out-of-pocket for it. Other than that, we've had several successful claims at two different locations. The clerical side with American Home Shield was great and I would recommend them to other people.

American Home Shield was easy to work with. The service tech from Myer's Electric who came to the house was cordial, polite, personable, and did a great job. I wasn't able to be on site but my wife kept me informed. The tech got me on the telephone and explained what he was going to do before he did it. We're happy and we hope the unit holds up. The tech said it was low on Freon so we're going to keep an eye on it. He ran a test for possible leakage and right now the unit is okay. But he was still concerned that there may be a leakage somewhere that's causing it to run low on Freon.

My recent claim was a water leak at my pressure regulator. I know American Home Shield is a busy place and when I call, I get put on hold. I might be on hold for a while but that's no big deal. I was able to do it on the phone and went to the automatic prompts which were okay. They did email me when they got a company that would come out to my house. It didn’t take a long time for them to get out. It took only a couple of days and they did the work. Before I also had a claim where my air conditioning unit went out, they came out the next day and took care of it.
The only concern I have this time was the fact that before, a technician will come out and you would pay them after they’re done. But now, they switched to where you have to pay by card before the technician comes out. Also, in the past, when I call for a technician to come out and if it was something that was not covered by the warranty, I wasn't charged a trade fee. This time, I told the technician to go ahead and fix the problem because my pressure regulator wasn’t covered by the warranty and they still charged a trade fee.
I called American Home Shield and explained to them that they couldn't fix it and it wasn't covered in the warranty so I paid for it out of my pocket. Then I told them that in the past, when this happens, I wasn't charged. The customer service person I was talking to said, "Well, it's up to the company or it's up to the technician. It's their call whether they charge you or not." The customer service further told me, "Well, in the future, what you need to do is call. Make sure you talk to somebody. Make sure you call and talk to a representative and tell them what the problem is. And they can pretty much tell you if we'll cover it or not before someone comes out or before you do that."
Then it goes back to the time that I have to wait just to get somebody to talk to me even if you do it online. They just ask general questions and unless you talk to somebody, you won't know if you’re covered until the service tech gets out to you. Now, I just paid $81 for trade fee and then I still had to get this problem fixed because it's not covered. I'm just glad to figure out that if I call and there's going to be a wait, I just have to wait it out until I talk to somebody. One time last year, I waited on the phone for about 15 to 20 minutes to get somebody. From now on, I'm going to have to take that time to wait until I talk to somebody. Unless it's something you automatically know is covered because they fixed it before.
Overall, I love American Home Shield. It's been a couple of times where they didn’t cover a claim but it has never been a problem. I've been with them for four years and I'm satisfied. The price is right and every year, there are no hidden things. I do recommend it to my family and my friends. When people start asking about home warranties, I tell them American Home Shield. They’re good, reliable and very friendly.

I have been with them 8 years! Very few claims and always paid $75 service fee, sometimes twice to get the same problem fixed. I can say that based on the value provided this is a waste of money. The service is below average. I got fed up and called them to cancel the contract today. They wanted to charge me a cancellation fee even though my contract is year to year with automatic renewal. I'd say they getting too big they no longer care about customer services! The lady who took my call was very un-professional and rude. I'm glad I'm out with them. Not a way to grow business. A 2 star rating is still very generous to them!
I would like to thank you for the years of patronage that you have given to AHS. Also, I would like to follow up with you regarding your most recent experience.

I had a plumbing issue and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy, I just went online and did it. Their contractor got out there and looked at the issue and said that it wasn't covered. So far, everything that I’ve called AHS for hasn't been covered. And every time their contractors come out, they want me to give them more money because they tend to say, “Well, you know this really doesn’t cover my expenses.” So far, my experience with AHS has been consistent. They haven’t been able to fix the issue, it’s not covered, and “What they’re paying me is hardly covering me coming out here so if you could pay me a little more, that would be great.” So, I’m disappointed with them.
I've got two home warranties and I was eligible for a very steep discount with Choice Home Warranty so I took advantage of that to compare it with AHS, but CHW is far superior and they cover just about everything. They sent somebody out and we thought they repaired it but they didn’t. It was more expensive than they had initially realized and so I ended up paying out of pocket to have it done correctly by a company that isn’t associated with the warranty companies.
I am one of the social media specialists at American Home Shield and I would like to follow up with you regarding the stoppage service requests. I see that the claim was denied due to the diagnosis being noncovered.

Usually, the first step is to know that it wasn't the coolant. Anyway, we had to pay for the coolant because that's standard procedure. We called back again and very quickly, they rescheduled and sent another individual out. He was a very professional young man. He came, walked in with his backpack with his tools, had the part with him, fixed it, and was in and out of here in 45 minutes. My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my GE microwave. Calling them up for a claim was not a problem. However, the people they sent out were. The first contractor broke a part of my microwave and checked it back thinking I wouldn’t notice. It completely fell off the second I opened my microwave and they didn't want to fix it. AHS then sent out another guy who was very nice and did what he could but he didn’t want to fix the unit either. Now I’m back to the first company and they still don't want to fix my unit. They’re affordable but they should choose better companies that they contract with. It’s been about three months and it's still an ongoing issue.
This is not the first claim I had with them. We had the motor of our garage door replaced before. However the guy AHS sent out did not hook up my actual garage door opener in my car nor did he redo the keypad. It’s standing in my garage but there’s no way I can get it out of my garage any other way. I had to have someone else come out and fix it. Additionally, three months ago, the compressor of our AC also went out. They should have known that it was low on Freon when they did the full diagnostics check on out. Two weeks later, I had to have the same company come back out and pay another fee to come back out and check it. So, it’s kind of recurring thing.

I had a recent claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning unit. When their first service provider came out, the guy was able to get the unit started and it was working fine. And then, it stopped working again and they realized there may have been a short in some parts between the unit communicating with the thermostat.
But, when they got the next guy out, he said he would call in what the problem was. Still, when he came, he didn't have the part. The next time they came out, there was something else that they didn't have. The next time I scheduled an appointment, they sent me an email changing it and gave me a time that would work with me. They came out the fifth time and got everything resolved. Still, it shouldn't take five visits for something that should only take one or two.
Nevertheless, the technicians who came out to do the repairs were very good. They were professional and did a good job. But, the communication between their office and the dispatch person, including the one that came out to do the repair wasn't there. When you call American Home Shield, you're on hold for 45 minutes to an hour before you could talk to someone. The scheduling time has been difficult too. Furthermore, you can't follow up on this kind of appointment and schedule additional appointments for the same service on the internet. Still, once I got someone on the phone, they were really helpful and they reached out to the vendor for them to contact me. While I'm satisfied with the repair, working with them wasn't a pleasant experience.

Good luck finding customer service over the phone with at least 30 to 60 minute wait time. We have been a customer and paying our dues to American Home Shield for more than 5 years. Unacceptable. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Please try all other companies before you sign up with AHS.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced. I would be glad to follow up with you and help get your AC unit repaired.

I called AHS, waited on hold for 30 minutes and no one ever picked up. Emailed AHS and have received no response. Our oven has been broken since May.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for an air conditioning and I waited on hold for 45 minutes or more. The person was not knowledgeable and they didn't show up when they were supposed to. Also there's always a dispute like, "We're not going to pay for this. We're not going to pay for that." We had three different contractors and we got different opinions. Then finally we got somebody who fixed it. The repair done is okay for the time being but it doesn't last very long. American Home has really gone down on their customer service. Their people are polite but not knowledgeable and have no ethics or ability to change the outcome. Also they don't have enough people servicing the line to provide excellent customer service.

American Home Shield is a wonderful company to deal with. We've had them for several years and I have been very happy with them that's why I continue to use them. The last claim that we had with them was a replacement of the waste pipe on the bathroom. It was about a year ago, somebody came by and evaluated it. They hired somebody, did it promptly and they did a good job. Their representative works very well and knows exactly what to do. The contractor was a good guy. I enjoyed having him at the house and he did a good job. The bathroom waste pipe now works fine.

We were having issues with the opening and closing of our garage door opener. The service provider came out to check it and told us that he could do something to it but it wasn't going to repair it. It would only be a temporary fix. The next day, it was broken again so, we contacted American Home Shield. The contractor said that one of the supports wasn't the correct support on the garage door so it wasn't going to hold the door and it won't continue to go up and down. He didn't explain a lot in detail, and the interaction was very short, quick and not very customer-friendly.
The biggest issue that we had was that it was not communicated with us that they weren't going repair the door until we hadn't heard anything in a couple of days so, I had to call back. We were waiting to hear a customer service call from them saying that they got a report from the service provider and it's not covered. Also, someone had documented that they try to reach us and that was not true. No one had left a message on my home phone, my cellphone or my husband's cellphone. I had asked them to document in the file that no one had reached out to us. The person I spoke to said that they're sorry for the miscommunication and I said that it's not a "miscommunication" but it's a "no communication". It was a huge failure on their part to communicate. We ended up paying out of pocket for the garage door to be repaired.
Overall, the customer service is good in general and the experiences we've had were positive. In our recent claim, their reps have been pleasant as far as answering the questions but they didn't give us the answer that we wanted because we've been with them for so long and never had any issues. I wouldn't let that one incident negate my overall experience with them.

The reps I spoke with at American Home Shield were courteous, everyone was polite and the contractor they sent (Crites) were wonderful. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They were prompt, courteous and showed up exactly on time, if not early. Six months ago, our washing machine was not working. I called in a claim with American Home Shield and Crites came out and they determined we needed a new motor. AHS paid for that and sent a new motor. But then, we started having the exact same problem a little time later, plus there was a leak on the floor next to the machine. So then, Crites came out again and they said it was the motor and the motor parts and they again covered that.
A few months later, it started acting up again. That time, there were some parts that were very hard to find. It was almost like they got to a point where they said, “No, we're going to replace the machine.” Then a couple of weeks went by and then they said, “Oh, no, we found these parts. Now, we're waiting for them to be delivered.” And then Crites came out and put those parts in. Well then, our contract was ending but we had 30 days from the placement of those parts to file a complaint if it wasn’t working. Sure enough, once again it was not working. So, we called that in for a fourth time and they did replace the machine with an excellent washing machine and it didn’t take that long and that part went smoothly. I don't know how much two motors plus these other parts cost plus the service call, but I would think it's almost just as much or more than just replacing it. It just seems ridiculous to me to keep replacing parts on a machine that many times.

The contractor guy they sent was amazing. They had to come and check out another one in our apartment and it was the same person and he remembered me. He was very nice, quick, and he did a great job. He fixed the washing machine as we were selling the house and it worked perfectly right after it was done. Then we sold the house and I haven't heard any complaints from the people who bought it so it's good. I'm really satisfied with them and happy with the whole thing.

He's been here before and he's great. But I've had several incidents where the appliance should have been replaced and AHS tried to fix it instead. Then the problem reoccurred and it's still not replaced.

I've been having mediocre experiences with American Home Shield. I've had some successful claims with them. They've come out and fixed and replaced my garbage disposal. They've also been out to fix my washing machine, they had to replace some parts in it and it's working. But my problem with them is with my air conditioning. They had to come out and change something every summer and it has been going on for six years. They supposedly fix it but something else happens the following year. They don't replace it while it really needs to be replaced.
My recent claim on my aircon happened June of this year. I called AHS and I interacted with the contractor. He came in and told me what the problem was, and we went from there. He didn't fix the problem, he just told me what was wrong. American Home Shield told me how much it was going to cost and the extra cost and I decided not to go with them. I'm not going to spend that extra $1,000 when I'm paying every month for five years. I have fixed it on my own. I didn't have to replace it and just fixed some parts in it. I've been dealing with American Home Shield and they should fix it, and they haven't. I'm tired of using AHS.

I called AHS for service for my AC unit on. They sent the tech to my home. The tech spent more time telling me how he can do the job on the side and want me to give him more cash than the repair was going to cost me. He also took my parts and left my unit very unsafe. He took the cover of the outside unit therefore it left the edges expose, also the compressor and the r22 coolant and coils all open and expose. I do not know what danger this could be for me in the future. I inform AHS about this the very first business day. They act like it was common to do that. I dont thinks it’s common and if it is then why didnt the repair tech come prepare with a cover to protect unit until work was done. Also my unit coil was torn from the fan blade when the unit broke.
The AC tech inform me the unit should be replaced, however he would patch it up knowing it wasn’t safe. The tech gave AHS very little information about my system therefore leaving AHS with a low cost cash out to repair my unit. Broken cover, motor gone to fan blades I believe, and fan blades broke torn coils inside and AHS offer me a cash out in the amount of $311.00 bogus amount. I had to get an outside person repair/replace unit because American Home Shield was taking too long and the temperature in the house was well above 90 to 105 degrees. The people on the phone at AHS, will tell you they working on the authorization, and the next day you call to follow someone else will tell you they’re not working on it and I need to allow 48 hours. Well I had to call them every day for two weeks.
Thank God for friends and family. Whom agreed to help me with $$$ till I received the reimbursement from AHS, only to find out they not even covering half of it. I dont know why the techs didnt take pictures of the unit to show AHS that my unit was too damaged and need to be replace. AHS do not care about their customers because they do not take your word if the tech tell them different. My tech was so angry and mad at me for not giving him cash to do the job on the side, therefore he didnt inform AHS everything that needed to be fixed.
I'm going to consult my attorney, because I paid them for several years on this house and used the service very little. Now when I needed them the most in the hottest days of the years they failed me. They will tell you anything to get you off the phone. I have lodge a complaint to them about the company that was sent out. I also asked for a manager and I was inform by the lady in the auth department that she didnt have a manager. I then asked her to please find a manager and share my concerns and have one call me back. To this date no one have address my concerns. All they care about is collecting my monthly payments. They need to follow up much more when a customer complains.
My original call for service was 7/15/2017. The tech came out and that was the end of it. I waited over 5 business days and the weekend still no repairs, therefore I had no choice but to go with outside person. I inform them two days after the tech came out how uncomfortable I was with the tech and the harassment I went through because he kept insisting on me giving him cash, stating he can repair my AC unit by the next day.
I really was feeling like I was being scam, because if he could repair then why by going with AHS it would take much longer. He said because they have to order the parts. I checked with AHS and was told they do not order the parts for small ticket items just for large. So wow I was lied to by either the warranty company or the HVAC… which one... or are they in this together. I am very dissatisfied with their service for that request and another one at another property. I will update that at a later date. VERY DISSATISFIED.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you received on the AC service requests. I would be glad to follow up with you in an effort to resolve the ongoing issue.

They finally called to remedy my issue. They offered $500 credit towards buying the new appliance. I would be out $240, but I'd have a new unit. An hour later I received another call stating they would be paying for only $330 towards the replacement. Often times the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. I'm glad at the outcome, but I not satisfied with the near 4 week time frame.

I've long been a fan of AHS, but lately they have declined in customer service. Over an hour wait to get someone to talk to at times. We had issues with our pool, requested service and they sent the bottom rung of pool service pros. The tech made things worse and wired our pool pump incorrectly and created a hazard. I called AHS and asked for another company to come fix their shoddy work. They then arranged for the same company to come out, ignoring my concern and instructions. Another company came out and replaced the pump as it was destroyed by the previous tech.
Subsequently, our trash compactor needed repair. The tech came out, identified the part and requested it via AHS supplier. Two weeks later said part is on backorder with no estimate on when it will be available. AHS has no time frame on when they have to have your appliance repaired, when they cover a replacement (unlike Choice Warranty), who is looking very attractive at present.

I did not have confidence in the service provider American Home Shield had assess the plumbing issue at my home. I had 2 other service provider assess the issue and give me their estimates, the AHS provider prices were higher, the recommended scope of work was excessive and on the estimate the AHS provider was going to charge me for items that should be included in the price. After getting approval from AHS I had the work done by an outside provider. I submitted all the necessary paperwork in order to be reimbursed by AHS.
I called AHS on 6/22/17 to get the status on the cash out and was told 2 checks had been sent out, one on 6/13/17 and the other on 6/20/17, I also confirmed the address the checks were mailed to was correct. Since then I have made numerous phone calls to AHS to get the status of the checks and have been given numerous excuses such as the check was sent to the wrong address and needed to be voided and reissued, to the check was sent back to AHS by the post office for some unknown reason, to the accounting department has been waiting to get an address confirmation before reissuing the check, and over and over again I've been told the checks are in the mail.
On several occasions I've asked to speak to a manager, each time I'm told they are in a meeting or at lunch. It is now 7/30/17, to date I have not received the reimbursement checks. I've spoken to the Customer Service Dept, the Ops Dept, the Cash Out Dept, and the Research Dept. The Accounting Dept., which is getting blame from the other departments, does not take phone calls. It never ceases to amaze me how a business can get away with these kind of practices.

We received the home warranty when we purchased this home in Spruce Pine NC April of this year. Turned the HVAC on July 24th. The next day went in the room where the system is and saw the unit was leaking from underneath pretty bad. Called American Home Shield. The wait time was approximately 48 minutes. This was on a Friday. We received a text from Pyatt Heating and Air a HVAC company located in Marion NC approximately 25 miles away said we would hear from them within 24 hours. By Monday we never heard from them.
I called them to find out the status and was rudely informed they don't come to Spruce Pine. Called American Home Shield back to tell them Pyatt rejected our request. The wait time is no less than 48 minutes of music. We had to call them every day for 5 days straight to see if they found someone to fix our HVAC. Now every day was no less than 48 minutes. I called one day checked the time I was waiting for someone to answer, some arrogant young guy told me he could not help me to find out the status of my claim. I told him I waited almost one hour for someone to answer. He arrogantly told me I would have to call back.
I was so mad I wanted to say the hell with American Home Shield. But I needed the HVAC fixed and being retired just relocated from another state I don't have that kind of money. I called back and the young girl told me they found someone. She asked me if I had heard from them and I said no one has contacted us at all. It took 7 days to get someone here. The problem still isn't fixed.
One or two hours after the repair guy left we checked the system and there was leaking all on the floor. The guy said he needed to get a part when we called him. I will never recommend AHS!!! The service is awful, the employees are young and inexperienced and not helpful. The whole ordeal is exasperating. I cannot provide an order number because I never received one nor a receipt.

All we do to submit a claim is call and tell American Home Shield what the problem is, then they send everything else through text. The last claim we had was when we had problems with our septic. It was coming out through our shower in our downstairs bathroom and it was pretty nasty. This was the third or fourth time that it's happened and the same company comes out to fix it. They sent out First Home Quality Homes and they're great. The guy who comes and fixes it has become a really good friend of ours and even built a barn for us, so we like that it's him who comes out. Submitting a claim with AHS was a long process since I had to give away 45 minutes of my day to submit a claim but the rep was excellent and she was really nice. She handled the situation. And the contractor was good but I wish they would have done a validation on the overall work because I had to call back and they were out on vacation. The last claim that I had with American Home Shield, I basically told them that I did not want to deal with it anymore. They kept on sending the person that I did not like, and he basically did not do the service when he came. He went out back to the car and wrote the same thing that he last wrote on the previous time that he came. Then when he came in, he didn't do anything. He just stood in my living room and never even went to the kitchen. That guy had been servicing my house at the time, but he had probably been in a bad mood these last two incidents.
He also demanded the $75, so, I complained to them about the issue and the girl was supposed to have fixed the issue by waiving it. Though, I ended up paying it because they did explain to me that it was still due. However, they keep on making it seem like I'm late even though they've taken bank drafts out of my account. It was disappointing because I'm never late on any payment. I've been a customer with them for years and the payment only lapsed one time when I had a renter here. The girl said she was going to do a follow-up, investigate everything, and then they had a word of proposal that she was going to fix the situation. I don't have a problem paying the $75, but don't make it look like I'm not a paying customer if they're drafting it out of my account.
American Home Shield did get somebody out here to replace the garbage disposal that the man supposed to have done, and the person that they re-sent out here did a great job. AHS is still a good company, but I don't want it to continue happening. I'm in the process of purchasing a new home and I don't have time to keep going back and forth with a company that can't handle their business properly. Eventually, I'm looking for another warranty company if they can't get their situation straight.

I had an AC issue and American Home Shield has been good in sending technicians out. They sent out the people that they said they were going to send out. As far as the technicians' quality and being qualified go, they have been very good about that. My only issue with AHS is trying to contact them and talking to an actual person when an issue is not as simple as just going online and typing something. I've had an AC technician come out twice for the same problem and I wanted the same technician to come out since he was familiar with my unit. I tried to call just when I had it scheduled so they can put it into their notes to have the same guy come out.
It took three days and about eight calls, six out of those I sat on hold for 45 minutes and then I hung up. So on the seventh call, instead of dialing as an existing customer, I called like I'm a new sign-up client and they picked up with 30 seconds and it pissed me off. It was such a disparity between calling as an existing client, hitting prompt three times versus hitting prompt one as a new sign-up client. I still have an issue with my AC unit, but it's not due to any kind of deficiency on the technician’s part. It's just a perplexing problem we had.

We have been with AHS for many years. Recently we had our central air conditioner go out and it was a nightmare dealing with them. When calling them, which I had to do several times to try to get someone to come out and fix it, I was on hold for over an hour each time I called; one time it took over ninety minutes before I got a representative. I was told it would be taken care of within a week.
It has been over two weeks with going back and forth and arguing with AHS. We finally had enough of such horrible service and canceled our warranty because of being treated so poorly by AHS and the owner of the company that they were going to send out to fix it was very rude. After all the ordeal we went through and the awful service, we had to pay to get out of the warranty. They used to be a good company but we cannot recommend them anymore. We had a technician come out to complete service on our garage from Tuff Garage Doors. The technician/owners name is Hamilton **. Mr. ** confirmed to us that the $75 service fee WAS included as part of the total $150 repair on site. AHS ends up charging us for the $75 service fee. My wife and I called in to the tune of 1+ hour hold times several times, and AHS verified with Mr. ** by phone again that, in fact, the $75 service fee was included in the total repair cost. AHS then claims that the "$75 will not post to our credit card" and "if it does they will promptly reverse it". Both of these claims were false. AHS fully charged our card for the $75, and it was never reversed.
My wife and I have called about this issue around 4-5 times all to the same tune of 1+ hour hold times, being randomly transferred around, and many the agents were unprofessional by phone seeming to downplay the issue not taking any ownership at all. All agents are telling us to "not worry about the charge, extensive notes were put on the account". Now AHS has simply re-billed our online account because we disputed the charge with our bank. Our bank rightfully reversed the $75 we already paid after providing proof of payment, and AHS has no right to re-bill our account, period.
AHS overall seems to have gone down the drain over the past several years. Their claim process is very easy online, but it is an utter disaster anytime you need to contact them by phone regarding a claim. The wait times are ridiculous, lack of ownership or knowledge their agents seem to have about ANY question or issue, and they always say they are "shorthanded".
How about you actually hire some people to staff your call centers because every single review here complains about the same issue? We left this negative review as a last resort because the people monitoring these reviews "seem" to at least want to try to help, but there is a disconnect here to the people working when you call in. At this point, we need the $75 removed from our online account. We've already proven we paid the $75, and so did AHS.
I would be glad to speak with you in regards to the service fee charge that you had already paid to the technician.

American Home Shield is a good thing to have. It definitely helped me out. My most recent claim with them was about two weeks ago. It was for the water heater. The drain valve is on the bottom of it and it was leaking constantly. I noticed that was on a Saturday. I called in and finally got through to the sales representative some time around 3:00 in the morning of Sunday. The rep sounded like he was pretty tired. But other than that, the call went pretty smoothly. They had somebody out on Tuesday and the water heater was constantly dripping and getting all over my basement down where the laundry room is at.
I was at work and I got an email saying that the contractor was on his way. I told my wife about the contractor. They were there on time and the contractor helped her out pretty good. They fixed the water heater the day they came out. The water heater was like brand new and it's not leaking anymore. The contractor wanted to keep Teflon valves in there and he had to put in a shut off valve at the top which he didn’t have. The repair didn’t cost me anything. I just paid $75 and American Home Shield came out and took care of the issue. I got a year warranty with them if anything goes wrong. It came with the house when I bought it.

They would fill it out with Freon and American Home Shield only pays so much and so they charged me $277 for it. Also, it's hard to get to an individual representative from them. I always get that automated system. When I get to an individual representative, I keep telling them that Gilley's has been robbing me and them of their money every year, but they told me they had to send the first person that they get in in contact with.
So when I had an AC problem and I called again for a claim. It was on a Monday, but they came out and actual work was done on a Thursday. But this year they sent out Myers out in Montgomery, Alabama and the technician took me outside and showed me exactly what they were supposed to be doing but they never did. It's been hot in Arkansas the last few years and my air conditioning unit has been excellent since the repair. Everything AHS advertises on their website is true. They were courteous, on time, quick to respond and professional. They were awesome and I'd recommend them.

The most recent claim I had with AHS was a garbage disposal that was leaking and submitting a claim was quick, easy and painless. Their representative was fantastic as always and within 24 hours, I had contact from the subcontractor who was going to do the work for me and we had it scheduled. The contractor knew what he was doing. He was in and out in 20 minutes. Everyone was super-fast and easy to deal with. It was fabulous.

I’m having the biggest issues with American Home Shield and repairs. I have an AC issue with my central air and it is now over a month and a half, seven business later, enclosed incompetence all the way around, lousy customer service from American Home Shield, pathetic contractors. We managed to diagnose the issue on Google.
The most recent call today was Eagle Air which is a contractor they're using. They seemed to think that it was finished despite the fact that I have a direct line to AHS who verified that he had talked to the contractor on Friday. I guess the rep is on vacation and he contacted the contractor and supposedly they had to order some parts. And when the parts would come in, they’d come back and repair but nobody anywhere assumes to be able to tell me that in this century.
There was an intermittent problem. The AC was coming on and coming off and it wouldn’t blow cold air. The problem has not changed even with different contractors. One contractor literally stopped by on its third visit saying he got to go to Home Depot but he never came back and contacted us. The fact of the matter is it doesn’t matter who the contractor is, that’s part of the American Home Shield system. It's the worst experience ever. I'm not going to renew AHS and I'll be going out my way on social media to amplify my poor word of mouth.
I am one of the social media specialists with AHS and I would like to speak with you in an effort to resolve the AC issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

Our dishwasher broke a month ago and we called American Home Shield. An appointment was scheduled five days later. The repair company said they needed to order a part which took two weeks to come in. Today they were scheduled to repair our dishwasher but never showed up. I tried to call AHS but the call wait time is 30 minutes. The repair company doesn't answer their phone and it's Friday.

If you are looking for a home warranty plan, DO NOT use American Home Shield. Why... I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. In the last two years I have become very dissatisfied with AHS's customer service. Wait times to talk to a representative range from 45 minutes to an hour, service contractors are incompetent, and they lack the interest in supporting a loyal customer base. Below are my most recent experiences.
A service call on my refrigerator was not resolved due to technician's incompetence (i.e lack of knowledge that the problem was a known issue with that model Samsung refrigerator) and now we are having to call back and have the repair done again. Because the labor done failed after the 30 days of the original repair AHS is not taking responsibility for the fact that the technician was incompetent. I am having to pay the service charge for a 2nd time. After requesting to speak with a supervisor (not available) and a promise to call me back in 24 hours (which didn't happen); I called back and waited another hour (no kidding) to get a representative on the line. Then I was told again that a supervisor would call me back in 24 hours. When I was told that didn't happen the first time, a supervisor came on the line. No resolution was reached after I talked to the supervisor.
I was finally told I could cancel my contract after all pending repairs are finished, and she seemed perfectly happy for that to happen and even offered to do it right then!! What really got me was on the second service call on the refrigerator, it has taken almost a week for them to authorize the parts to fix the refrigerator and now the second visit must be scheduled. This second tech was here 15 minutes and knew exactly what the issue was and which parts to order! My issue is -- why didn't the first tech that was sent out know this. I am beginning to wonder if this isn't AHS's strategy? Do an initial repair requiring no parts, knowing that it will fail after the 30 day warranty and then AHS can charge you again. Their solution was for me to go back to the original contractor and dispute it with them. That is not acceptable!
In addition to the refrigerator, our 26 year old hot water heater went out. It has taken over a week to get a technician out and all they are going to do is diagnose and see if it can be fixed. Really! They are going to fix a 26 year old hot water heater! If it is determined that it must be replaced, it will have to be authorized and then ordered and 2nd visit rescheduled!! Another week of no hot water!! A few years back AHS had achieved a bad reputation regarding these same types of issues. After it was all over the media, the service was very responsive. Over the years they have made a boatload of money off my payments to maintain this contract. It is discouraging that AHS is not valuing their customers again.
Hi Ms Anderson,
I would like to speak with you in regards to your refrigerator that needs to be replaced. I will be contacting you tomorrow.

I had a terrible experience recently where my AC went out in the middle of the summer in Louisiana. It was out for 5 days. No thanks to AHS and their contractors before I did what I should have done originally and just called my local AC company and had it fixed within two hours. Now AHS is still charging me for a service fee for a service that was never provided. This has quite literally been the worst experience I have ever had with a business. I am shocked that they haven't been investigated for some form of misconduct. I will forever dissuade every person I come in contact with from getting a home warranty through AHS.
I would be glad to speak with you in regards to the experience you encountered with your AC service claim.

I submitted a work order because my Microwave quit working. The online tool said I would be contacted by a contractor within 24 business hours. No contact was made with a contractor during that 24 working hours (3 Days). I called AHS to follow up on the status of my request. It took me a day and a half and a total of 2.5 hours on the phone to talk to someone. During that time I was hung up on. When you call the customer service line your minimum wait is 30 minutes or more. I tried several times before I could stay on the phone for over an hour to talk to someone. The customer service person said she would have to refer this case to their Contractor Relations Dept. because the contractor assigned to my work order was not responding. We are now on day 5 and no response from anyone. Might have to cancel my contract and go with someone else.
Hi Mr. Perry,

My toilet recently began malfunctioning and I reached out to AHS. Their email stated someone would reach out to me within 24 hours. Well it was on a Saturday night. So, I expected someone to get in touch with me by Monday morning. No one contacted me until Monday evening. The agent told me the name of the company that would be reaching out to me. They called the next day which was Tuesday and said no one would be out to fix our toilet until Friday evening. I said no way. That was too long for 3 children and 2 adults to not have a functioning toilet. I contacted my own plumbing company and they came out the same day to fix the toilet. I then tried to call AHS and waited on hold for over 1 hour for 2 days in a row.
I finally tricked the system and called stating I wanted to start new service with AHS and someone was on the phone within minutes. The customer service agent realized what happened and placed me on hold for 15 minutes. I did speak to a customer service agent who was not apologetic and got me over to retention. The retention department was very nice and took the time to understand my concern. She said she cancelled the work order. I also asked to speak to her manager. She told me she would call within 24 hours. The manager did not call me until the following Saturday. She was also very nice and apologetic. She even gave me a $100 credit. I pleaded with her that I wanted to go back to my old company because I was having too many issues. She reassured me everything was ok. 2 weeks later the plumbing company called me stating that they were on the way. I said I have already had the issue resolved.
Now here we are a month later and I am being charged for this $100 work order that was never completed. I cancelled the work order directly with AHS with 2 different individuals and even the plumbing company. Also, what happened with the $100 service credit. I was very upset to see that I was charged for a service that was never rendered. Today 7/28/2017. I called to tell the customer service agent that I had been billed erroneously. She took the time to understand my concern and placed me on hold. 30 minutes later as I type this I am still on hold. She did apologize as she was trying to figure out why I was charged. I have since realized that going with the best price isn't always the best. I will not be recommending AHS for any future business.
I understand your frustration with the issues you encountered with the service claim on your toilet. I would like to speak with you and help resolve them.
Thank you,

I have spent over 1 hour each time I phone into American Home Shield to discuss my contract refrigerator repair. I also spent over hour to speak with a supervisor. Never spoke to a supervisor phone disconnected. When I finally called back for the third time the customer service representative stated the provider they contracted to do the repair didn't call in their report. I tried to explain to the representative the company told me they did call in and explain they couldn't fix the problem. The representative from American Home Shield stated, "Mam you can believe what you want. I don't see anything in my notes."
The representative also went on to say if they called in it would be in my notes. I basically felt she was saying I was lying. The representative was very argumentative and rude. After several minutes going around in circles she finally decided she would call the company. But of course since it took me over an hour to get through to anyone at American Home Shield the company was closed. She claimed she left a message for the company to call in their report tomorrow on 7/27/17. I have used American Home Shield in the past but I will never pay for another warranty again. This company needs customer service training and new providers.

My air conditioner stopped cooling and it needed a part replaced. I contacted American Home Shield and they fixed it. They also fixed it rather quickly, which is great for rental property. I scheduled an appointment online and then I got a text message with the number of the people that actually came out and did the work. I called them and they told me they moved to the next step, then my unit got fixed. The contractor was a good and a hardworking man. He showed up at 7:30 at night and got it done the same night. I think he was having problems all day that was backing him up, but he did a good job. He kept his work and his obligation. I’d praise him for that. I don't know how much it would have cost if I hadn’t had the home warranty, but the AHS warranty took care of my problem and I liked it. I'm pleased.

I had an air conditioner that kept cutting on and off. It would be on every five minutes and run a minute or two, and then cuts off. It didn't sound right. I called American Home Shield and they got a serviceman from Carolina Air out of Red Springs to come and look at it. He was knowledgeable and personable, and he answered all my questions. He was like a neighbor and not a technician. He determined that we were low on Freon. But he said, "There's a reason you're low on Freon. It's leaking somewhere." He found the leak, got the equipment and fixed the leak, and it's blowing cold air.
I'm very impressed with American Home Shield and with the people who came and did the work. I was talking to somebody at the barbershop and I said, "If you don't have a home warranty, if you think about it, you ought to have one. And AHS would be the people that I would use." I'm very pleased with the service. I was leery when they started talking about providing me with a home warranty. But it was the best $52 a month I'm spending after my experience with them with my air conditioner. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody who asked me.

While I was in the hospital in February, the power outlets in the kitchen stopped working and I found out about it after I was brought home from the hospital and was a little more coherent. I asked my mom about the coffee pot and she explained that the outlets weren’t working but they had been working before. And she had a power strip running from another outlet. I steam a lot of fresh vegetables and I couldn’t use my ninja board and KitchenAid mixer because I had no place to plug it in that worked. I wasn’t also allowed to do some cooking for a while and a lot of the things that I did eat was yoghurt, plus I still had no sense of smell and very little taste but some of it is coming back. So if it wasn't yoghurt, I was eating a whole lot but I would heat things up in the microwave, like cups of Quaker Oatmeal, because I was not quite ready to touch the stove.
When I was getting to the point where I could use the stove or oven and I’m going to cook myself but I can’t plug in my steamer and things, I said that I needed to get this taken care of so I made the claim with AHS. Everything went very well. Their representatives were helpful and tried to get me a contractor within a few days and they called to let me know they were on their way. The contractor was friendly, talkative, was joking around and very nice. I was joking also with them and the whole experience was very good. They found out that one of the plugs has the reset button, the black and red button thing, and it was all in his top and he’s tripped the other one so the other one didn’t work so they just changed them out. They worked wonderfully and efficiently, and they also tried to get things done as quickly as possible for me. The overall experience was wonderful, especially knowing that I was here by myself.

We have five people in the house and one of the two bathroom toilets recently backed up. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone and the rep was friendly enough. That was on a Saturday and they came on a Thursday. The contractor showed up on time, put a snake in the toilet, cleared the toilet and he left. He spent some time there with these questions about taking the snake out and putting it in the plastic bag.
About a week later, the toilet backed up again. So, they sent out another representative and it took four days for them to come out. I told AHS I didn’t want anybody from there but they sent one anyway and the second gentleman spent a lot more time and stayed here for almost a half hour. He made certain that the toilet was working properly and we hadn’t had any trouble with it since. If I have another problem, I wouldn’t mind having that second technician come out. The experience with AHS was pretty good and they did what they were supposed to do.

Water was leaking through an overflow tube from my water heater and into my backyard. I have the American Home Shield site downloaded to my computer and it was very easy to submit the claim. I just went in and my information was already preloaded. I clicked on what I needed, which was a plumber, and then I got an email from them letting me know that I would receive a contact from the vendor in less than 24 hours.
The next day someone called me and identified themselves as the contractor and said that they had gotten an order from American Home Shield. They wanted to know what the problem was and I explained it to them over the phone. Then he said he'll be there next morning and that he'll call when he's on the way. That next morning he called me and said he was on his way from Conway, Arkansas and that he’d be here within 30 minutes.
He showed up and said he knew exactly what was wrong. He did an adjustment on the top of the water heater and the water stopped running. I didn't see any water leak out of my water heater anymore. But then it was just my backyard that got really wet so everything was good. I’ve had American Home Shield the whole time I've been living in Arkansas, which is about 12 years and they’ve replaced several things at my house. I also get newsletters via email to give me little tips on how to maintain things around my house so it's been really good.

My grand baby might have put something down the toilet and I could never figure out what it was and so I called AHS. However, the actual company never showed up nor called. I never heard of this company before. All the other companies that I used in the past were reputable ones and were outstanding. When I called AHS and told them about the company, I resolved the issue myself and told them that I no longer need the service call. Besides that last claim, everything else was pretty much on point.

We've been trying to get the air conditioner fixed and the first people they sent out here did a terrible job. Every year in the winter time, the defrost board wouldn't do its thing and they replaced it and then every summer, it leaks Freon. They came out and tested it and it was blowing Freon again, but they keep telling us that it's not low enough to get replaced so we had to pay for more Freon. We pay every month to have American Home Shield and we pay a $75 fee for them to come out and look at the problem and then they charge us again for what's wrong.
We had one company that came out to fix a small air conditioner that we have upstairs and that guy charged us for Freon, but it started leaking again on the inside. Then when the big air conditioner wasn't cooling, they wanted to send the same people that came to do the upstairs. We told them that we don't want them. So, they gave us somebody else and he also charged us for Freon which I have to pay, but he was very nice and very informative. So, we still have yet to get the one upstairs taken care of. We've had American Home Shield for 13 years ever since we've been in the house. They did replace a hot water heater for us, but we're tired of having to fix the air conditioner every year and there's not enough wrong with it for them to give us a new unit.

Our refrigerator’s compressor was going out and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. It was very easy. The contractor has been out here before. They made a diagnosis very quickly as to what the problem so that part went smoothly. But it was a little bit disappointing that it took them five days to get out here. The freezer wasn’t keeping temperature. They finally made it out and then they said the compressor needed to be replaced. After another five days, we finally heard from American Home Shield that they do not replace those but they replace refrigerators. I was disappointed that it took that long for them to notify us.
But it was nice that they have the ability to purchase this type of refrigerator which is quite expensive for a significantly reduced price. However, to get it installed was really a challenge. American Home Shield doesn’t help with that and we were left to do that on our own. I called a company that makes the refrigerator and they gave me a few recommendations but on Angie’s List, they didn’t score well so I didn’t pursue them. I finally found somebody that’s going to do it but it took two weeks. The good thing though was the refrigerator was delivered in a very short period of time, which surprised me.
A thing that could use a little bit of improvement with AHS though is there isn’t always good communication when you submit a repair issue with them on their website. They say the contractor will get in touch with you within 24 hours but that rarely happens. They might but if they do, they tell you, “We’ll be out in a few days so I want to know what’s going on or how urgent this is.” There’s no way to personally communicate with them and say, “We need you now.” Other than that, I’m happy with my experience. AHS has a user-friendly website and the personnel that I have interacted with were helpful.

American Home Shield - This company was referred to by them and I cannot get any help to get my money back or service provided. I continue to get the run around and each time I call I am on the phone for (no joking) 2 hours to get a representative on the phone. Funny thing is, if you call to obtain a homeowners warranty with the company they answer on the 1st ring!!! I'm waiting now, which is why I have time to write this long review! Southern Comfort Heating and Air (Zebulon), stole my money!!! I have been attempting to contact them since 7/12/17 and always waiting for "Darryl" to return to the office. They have been out to my home several times. I was told that I needed a compressor which would cost approximately $800.
The technician came out after I waited all day and lost wages to tell me that the prior technician misdiagnosed the issue and that I did not need a compressor. He also informed me that the previous technician had been fired. The technician stated that he would provide Freon and some vent and that would be all that is needed. The technician instructed me to contact the company for a refund. I attempted to be patient and wait for them to contact me but lo and behold the air conditioning is broken again!!! It has been two weeks. I called my home warranty company who stated that this company informed them the compressor had been replaced (my receipt says otherwise). AHS stated that the company would call back within an hour to reschedule and fix the issue.
When I called today because they had not called I was informed that AHS stated that I would not be refunded for non-covered charges!!! So basically I gave them $775 to be exact and they did not provide the service I paid for or given me my money back. I received ~ 2 weeks of air conditioning for that price! When I asked about the technician, I was informed that he was fired! I wonder why??? I will write a review everywhere that I can and everyday. I never like to write bad reviews because I know how that can impact a business but I do not like to be robbed, especially without a gun!

Based on past experience with the contractor I ask to have another contractor work the work order and was informed the #1 R&R ELECTRICAL ALLSTAR were the only authorized contractor for my zip code. As before the contractor showed up a day later, reason they drove to the wrong location; I reside in Palm Bay FL, but the driver drove to Palm Coast the first time then Palm Beach??? Once the contractor was on-site he looked at the ceiling fan and as before provide me details on the fan.
I was told the motor was defective and the fan would probably have to be replaced with a new one because this ceiling fan has been having problems with the motor and he did not believe the parts were no longer available, I was told he would have an answer for me within 48-72 hours. It has been a month. NO REPAIR, NO REPLACEMENT. Each time I attempt to contact the contractor, I am either place on hold for >30 minutes and informed someone will contact you shortly.
I received an email recently stating the work has been complete, when I reached out to AHS, the representative attempted to call and was on hold for over 30 minutes. I was then told that AHS would reach out to the contractor and someone would contact me and provide me a status on my work order. Two week later, still waiting for a callback. Yesterday reached a representative who informed me once again an email will be forwarded to the contractor's manager to get the problem resolved and someone will reach me by COB, that was Monday. It is Thursday no callback. I am at the point where I am about to cancel my contract and go elsewhere for Home Warranty Service.

But you say what you need, they say they will send you an email if you have an email or call you back with the name of the person that will be coming out. Then they will give you a date that the person will come out. It was pretty easy. When I filed a claim for my air conditioning unit, the technicians AHS sent fixed it and it was pumping. They were very professional. But my system started leaking in the inside and it was all over the floor in my hallway. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was what we thought was the plumbing issue. We were smelling some mold in the house and couldn’t really determine the source. We called AHS, the rep said they would send a plumber out, figured out what works for our schedule and found a company that matches that. From there, I received a confirmation email from them saying about the company and when they’re coming and to reach out if I had any questions. Everything from there went as it should’ve. The plumber came out as expected and everything matched that.
But the experience itself was not enjoyable. We ended up having a plumber that was not on it. He came out and he was doing a nice job or so we thought. The plumber came out one time, told us everything was what it was and didn’t actually do anything but said that we needed to get our homeowner’s insurance involved. So, we went ahead and did that. Then, he came out again two weeks later and we got an email saying he came out. He told us we had to open a new claim because it was something different, even though he had still yet to do any kind of testing to support what he was saying. We had to pay an additional $75 for that.
After that, we had two or three emails from American Home Shield saying that the plumber came out but he never physically came to the house. When I confronted him about that, he said that American Home Shield was behind in their emails but that wasn’t the case because we had received an email every time. It’s kind of shady on his part. He was submitting to American Home Shield that he was coming out but he wasn’t. We didn’t really feel comfortable with that so, we reached out to that family friend who was a plumber and told him what we had been going on and he led us to the outside of the house, which was where the source of everything was happening.
We would’ve blindly trusted this plumber. He was saying it was definitely a huge leak every time we flush them after toilet and that was coming from something in our slab and that he was gonna have to break up the walls, remove part of the flooring, and dig through the slab work to fix all of that. And then, we would have to repair all of that. So, it was gonna be multi thousand dollar ordeal. Now, we're it fixing ourselves. My husband cut a hole in the drywall, and we removed the insulation, and it looks like there was an animal, probably a mouse, and it had climbed in through that hole and had been living there, and so, there was some urine and fecal matter in the insulation causing the smell. We’re drying all of that out and we’ll be repairing that. But that wouldn’t have been covered by anybody anyway so that’s when I had it did some investigation.
We ended up contacting American Home Shield about it. I said I really don’t want this plumber, one, destroying our house when it’s not necessary and two, for American Home Shield to continue to use this company because they’re obviously not trustworthy. They listened to everything I said, immediately refunded our money for the second claim and put that particular company on a “Do not serve” list and they were 100% on our side. That was really refreshing. They were always super helpful throughout the whole process.
We also had a situation with our air conditioning unit, had some questions, they sent somebody out and they were awesome. It's so easy to use them and they’re so reliable. As soon as you have an issue with the contractor, they’re so quick to respond and say they’ll put him on their Do not serve list. So, even though we had a horrible experience with the plumber himself, we know it’s nothing American Home Shield could’ve done. We have had them for a little over a year and we just renewed our contract. We love them. Being able to make one phone call or log on to one website and talk with somebody to figure out what type of person you need to come help fix your situation is a great resource.

I had a thermostat issue. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was a simple process. I just called and they set it up. My interaction with their rep was professional and smooth. The contractor called as indicated by American Home Shield and then they said what time they'd be there. They came out and did the work. It was perfect and the air conditioning has worked fine since the repair. The overall experience was painless and efficient.

I always submit my claim to American Home Shield over the phone and it's easy and very well-done. With my recent claim, I simply told them what it was and they dispatched the same HVAC technician. I have a relationship with them already, so everything was done to my satisfaction. It was for a heat pump coil in the attic that’s 10 years old and it is expensive. It's $1,400 and it's the gut that works the unit, and when it doesn't work, you don't have any air conditioning or heat. They last 15 years and when they go out, they're done. They have to be re-attached and replaced. The problem was the part was not in stock and I had to wait a week for the part to come in. But once it was ordered, they called back quickly and they put it in within 48 hours.
The contractors knew what they were doing. Everything was done right, professionally and timely. They also didn't mind me watching them. None of the contractors are professional communicators nor sales people. They are blue collar people and they’re not going to be as polished as someone who works on the phone all day long. But given what it was, they were good and they are a different breed. I work with contractors on a daily basis, so I knew what I was getting. Overall, I didn't have any issues with them. It was done to my satisfaction so everything is good. I'd recommend them.

We bought the house in March. I asked my realtor for advice on home warranty and he bought American Home Shield as a gift. The only claim I've submitted with American Home Shield was in June when they needed to come out to service the air conditioner. I did it online and they couldn't get somebody out so a second claim was started. The first person given the contract would not be able to come out for a while so they cancelled that and sent it to somebody else. They fixed it on their end and everything went smoothly. The contractor that came out was great. He looked at it, had the part, fixed it, and was done. It didn't even take an hour. The unit is now working fine, and I'm satisfied.

I had a leak and so I used the app to submit a claim with American Home Shield and then they called me back. It was really easy to submit the claim, but the reps were rude over the phone. But the contractor they sent out was very nice and thorough. He told me there was no leak and then they charged me $75, and it's alright now.

I had a problem with the air conditioning and I wasn’t sure exactly what part of it was wrong. I submitted a claim online to AHS to have a guy come out and take a look at it. I talked to the contractor on the phone while he was at home because I wasn’t there, although my wife was, so our communication and interaction were good. He explained exactly what the problem was and did a full cleaning. The actual AC seems to be performing well after the repair but it’s a little noisy and there’s more wind noise than normal, which might have been the fan. But beyond the repair, the tech saw other issues that could have been creeping up on us and decided to fix those.
However, I wish that AHS would clearly define and list down exactly what is covered and what is not covered on houses that have a septic tank. I also wish they would go back down on the price to $75 per visit instead of $125. The price for the call out is pretty expensive and it jumped right over $100. I do a lot of the work myself and I don’t call them too much. If I do, it’s for something really serious. For example, I didn’t call them when the sewage system underneath the house needed a new $250 pump. It's a separate part that’s sitting on the slab, which is plugged in, so I didn’t know if it would be covered or not. But if AHS were to cover that, it would have cost me only $125. So I could've saved money on something that probably was covered had I known it was covered. This time, I called them out for the AC and they ended up replacing the start capacitor, a $40 part which I could order online and replace myself.
