My air conditioner was 15 years old and I had to call American Home Shield because it was leaking and just quit cooling. The contractor came in and they had to order some stuff which took a while. They got it fixed it but it went out again. They came back out and it was something outside that needed to be replaced. They opened it up and it was totally gunked up and rusted. They never came or called back after that so I called them. And they finally came back out and fixed it and I hadn’t had any problem since. They did an awesome job.
However, if I want to talk to a representative about anything, it's at least a 30-minute wait. That’s ridiculous. When we first started with AHS around 15 years ago, it was fine. Now, it's just getting harder and harder. I waited for about 48 minutes the last time I called. If I didn’t renew, it would be for that reason. Customers are frustrated about something not working and it makes people mad to have to sit there and wait. And then, I'm sure reps are rude to the people and it just makes for a bad situation.

Our freezer's ice maker wouldn’t work. The gentleman that AHS had come out was absolutely fantastic. He was really nice and helpful. The ice maker now works and that’s all that matters. It was great overall.

Seven years ago in December, right before Christmas, my refrigerator went out. I called American Home Shield and they sent Sears out. Sears came out and checked everything and told me that something in the back hadn’t been cleaned. I was supposed to pull the refrigerator out, take the back off and clean it out using a vacuum cleaner. I said, “That’s the reason why I have American Home Shield.” I was not going to pull the refrigerator out. But American Home Shield didn’t cover it. and I lost all my food. That was the first time I had a problem with AHS.
Then in November of 2016, my heat wasn’t working. So I called American Home Shield, put in the work order. the guy came out and checked the furnace. He told me that the furnace needed a part that he had to order. Two weeks later, he came back and put the part on. The heat worked fine all winter. Then at the beginning of summer, my air wasn’t working. I called American Home Shield again. They sent another company out. He went down and checked. He said that I have a lot of rust up in my furnace. He advised not to use it when winter comes.
Turns out the guy that put the part in there rewired something incorrectly. That’s why I wouldn't get any air. So the guy did whatever he had to do for me to have air. Then I called Laclede Gas Company out because they check your furnace for free. So the Laclede Gas came out. They took pictures of the inside of my furnace. The furnace had two cracks in it. I know these cracks didn’t just happen within November to April or May when I turned my air on. So he wrote the paper up. He showed me pictures where the crack was. I called American Home Shield again and told them what was going on. They sent the same guy that noticed the rust in the furnace. I showed him the papers that Laclede Gas had written up. They reattached my furnace. So he said, he had to get an authorization from American Home Shield.
The guy that came from the gas company was telling me about Superior, which was the company that does the work for them. So I decided to go with Superior. Superior came out, put a new furnace in. Before they came out, the air was working fine. The next day when I got up, the temperature in my house was almost 80 degrees.
So I called Superior back. They came out right away. The guy checked everything. He told me that I had a leak in my coil and that there’s no Freon. I mentioned that the air is working fine before they put the furnace in. He said it was nothing that they did. But somebody had to do something. So I asked if the leak can be repaired. He told me that my air conditioner holds seven pounds of Freon and each pound cost $100. Then he said something else. And it totaled up to $1,800. I said no, so his advice to me was to go and get a whole new system. I asked how much would it be if they put in a new central air unit. He told me $3,000. I said, “Oh, no. No, no, no, no.” So I called American Home Shield back again, told them what was going on. They send another company out the guy came out and looked at it. He told me that it can be repaired and repaired it.

Dealing with American Home Shield is so bad. The last time when I had a claim, I timed it and I waited an hour and 11 minutes on the phone. They also want account or ID numbers and I don't have it handy when making a call. And then, I had asked to speak to a supervisor and when they transferred me, I got a machine. And I haven’t called them that many times, but every time I called, I get the same problem. It's either there are too many customers or they don’t have good management in handling their telephone calls.
One time before, I was charged with about $123 but they didn’t repair the problem so I had to call back. Another time, I finally canceled a service. It was too much trouble and I was able to get somebody else to fix it. But, the electrical problem in my air conditioning couldn’t get fixed without having somebody come out and they sent somebody to do that. The people that came out were super and did a good job. I signed something and I assumed I was signing and paying for the service which was $75. I talked with AHS and I asked how come I am paying full if they have an automatic draft. They said that it was for something else. They also told me that the $75 was for the call.
At that point, I wanted to wait until I got my bank statement because I don’t have a good feeling about American Home Shield. I've talked to some neighbors and they have not had good experiences. Some were the same to what I'm experiencing. They're not a company I could recommend to anybody. I'm stuck with them until my contract is up but I'm definitely going to go somewhere else. They don’t deserve my business. My experience with AHS is so bad that I'm amazed they’ve been able to fool enough people and keep dealing with them.
Mr. Mason,
We do appreciate your patience regarding our call volume to help assist with your concern. Although there are benefits that are included with your warranty, there are restrictions that may apply as well. When our dishwasher needed a repair, I submitted the claim with American Home Shield. Their representative was very professional, but getting through to them is difficult at best. There are times that the hold times are absurdly long. Many times, they exceed 30, 40 minutes which is extremely frustrating. We have a special number that we can call because of the association that we have. My wife and I are realtors but it doesn't matter what number we call to reach them. The least amount of time that their recording said was 30 minutes. It takes a God-awful amount of time and I'm not going to sit on the phone for that amount of time waiting for somebody to answer my call.
We have a representative who deals with our office. I've taken upon myself to call him directly and he's been very responsive, but he even told me that getting through to American Home Shield is difficult, too. Apparently, success has gotten to them and they've gotten too big, too fast and they need to staff their call centers because we can't get through to them if you have a question. It was even further frustrating because they don't do the repairs themselves. They have contractors that do the repairs.
The first contractor that came wasn't really proficient at repairing dishwashers. He told us and we naively accepted his diagnosis at first because we're not technicians. They simply wanted us to change the detergent we used so, we did what he told us to do. When they came back, we still have the problem. In addition, the dishwasher was leaking on the floor, ruining our hardwood floors and then we found out and we paid them their $100 upfront, then we had to pay them another $100 a number of months later because the fellow who came knew what he was talking about and he diagnosed it properly that that part was needed. Now granted a dishwasher is not a life and death situation, so we do have the capability of washing the dishes ourselves, but we were paying for the home warranty and we were given misinformation by their contractor.
We were caught in the middle because the dishwasher was old and its manufacturing was discontinued so, the part that was needed to repair it was not available. We didn't find that out for an additional two to three weeks. That became a prolonged situation until we finally found out from American Home Shield that they were going to replace the dishwasher because they could not repair it. We've gotten it replaced. My wife and I have made it very clear to them that we weren't really happy with trying to communicate with them. Their program seems to be okay except that they also have some work to do. They're selling a lot of their policies and they have to spend a little bit more time vetting the vendors that they use to make sure that they're more capable and more professional. I'd also like to see them add more agents so that communicating with them is more efficient.

I’m out in the country on a little lake, Sanibel, and it’s not easy to get appliance people to come. They have to come from a long way so it costs a lot. I found an appliance man from Cape Coral and he’d come here a lot for me so I’m debating with myself since I haven’t restarted the American Home Shield yet. I don’t know what’s the least expensive membership I can get. I took it because I have an 11-year-old refrigerator. The problem is the ice maker because that’s what’s causing the water on the floor. And one thing after another’s happening to my dishwasher. I put a lot of money this year and I had the repairman come out four different times for the refrigerator and the dishwasher.
Carlos is a good appliance repairman and he’s very knowledgeable, pleasant and neat. He always manages to get them going. I don’t know what he charges to come out but I know what it costs when he comes with AHS. Most people in Sanibel charge an extra $60 to come out here because they’ve got to pay the toll and it takes them longer. Carlos was very nice about that. He was here so many times for the microwave that it finally got replaced. I don’t know how many more times I have to go on the refrigerator and the stove.
I’m trying to figure out what’s the most economical way because I don’t know how bad it has to be before you replace it. I’m not trying to gyp out of anything because if he can fix it, then I don’t have to buy another one. If I don’t have the service and I have to go to the store, it’s going to cost over $1,000 for each of them that’s why I’m in a debate about what to do about it.
Before I sold my house up north, I ordered it because I was afraid that my appliance would go out and buy a brand-new appliance just as I was leaving. I was very happy I ordered it for the least amount of time. I told the new owners that they can use it and extend it if they liked it. It’s my best choice and I would recommend them. Other people say it’s the least expensive way to go because, by the time you call someone, you pay them by the hour. I have to add it up and see if the prices have gone up and what it costs this year as opposed to last.

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for the dryer. It stopped working but we didn't realize what the cause was. Submitting claims varies as it sometimes comes right on the phone and sometimes I have to wait an hour to get somebody to come answer the phone. But once I get to the claims reps, they're really nice. They got all the records on the computer. However, it would be so much easier if they would do like what Delta or T-Mobile do, where I call in and if somebody can't get to me, I'd give them my number and they'll call me back when it's my turn. The contractor then came by the next day. He knew what the problem was. It was the door which wouldn't shut. He had the part on the truck. He fixed it in 20 minutes and left when done. The only major thing about them is that sometimes if they had to order a part, it may take an extra week to get it and to get it rescheduled. Overall, I'm happy with it.

I had a plumbing issue and called American Home Shield to file a claim. It was quick and their rep helped me in a good fashion. The first contractor kept on putting me off, so I called back American Home Shield and within a couple of hours, I had a new one. The contractor called me and the plumber came, got on the problem and did a good job, which was not an easy repair. All in all, it's easy to contact AHS whether I use the phone or online. I also like the fact that they were able to easily switch me to a more efficient contractor.

The first experience with AHS was positive. We bought the home on a Friday and our air conditioner went out on that Sunday. It was a weekend so we couldn't find our account online but AHS was able to find it. We called that 1-800 claim number and submitted a claim. We called at 11:30 night time and waited not more than 10 minutes. And then their rep told us who to call or who was going to call us. But he ended up calling the Recap Home Services because we hadn't heard from them within 24 hours. Nevertheless, Recap Home Services responded back and came out within a day. The contractor was there for an hour, listened to the unit and was good at keeping us updated. The AC has been working fine since the repair. I dealt with other home warranty companies before and it wasn't the best experience, but with AHS, it was good.

I called in a claim for my washing machine and the person I talked to was very professional. I was going to reschedule for a couple of days out because I was out-of-town, but she ended up getting me the next day, which was fine. The contractor was very prompt. He did his job and left. The service was within the time-frame that they had. Since the repair, the washing machine has been fine and working. The only thing I noticed is that they had gone out on the price for the monthly fee. The last time I paid was $15. Other than that, the experience with AHS was fine and they were very pleasant. I'd recommend them to some more people.

My water line and the motor in the bottom of the refrigerator were out so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. The representative was very kind and patient. They recommended two persons, and I picked Sears. The contractor did an excellent job and he knew his craft. I'm always pleased with the people they send out and their service too. Since they repaired my fridge, I’ve had no problems. I hope it lasts another 100 years. I’ve always had an excellent experience with American Home Shield, they always send top people out to do the job and it's always done effectively. I would highly recommend their service.

I filed a claim on the phone was for the AC. The first contractor was very professional and he came at a decent time and his truck was marked. He was very thorough with his inspection and explained everything that he could, but he couldn't fix the AC. He said that the AC needed to be replaced so we had another contractor come out through AHS because they wanted a second opinion, and that contractor was horrible.
The second contractor didn't tell me when he was coming and he just showed up. He came on a car and he was very unprofessional. He came in, didn't even look at the AC unit itself and went out. Then he put Freon in the AC when he wasn't supposed to, and he left. After that, I was waiting for the service representative to call back but then, that was right around the time that the hurricane came. I tried to call AHS two or three times about it and I kept getting wait times of over an hour. The problem is still unresolved and for this issue, I'm dissatisfied.

We've had two great experiences with American Home Shield. We called the plumber and electrician to come out and they were nice and easy. Our problems were solved and the service fee was only $75. The electrical was the last service call we had. We live in an old house so switches started to not work properly. The chandelier in the stairwell would only turn on with one of the two switches and the other one would sometimes turn it on. We dealt with it for a while until we finally decided to do something about it. It was easy to do the claim online and American Home Shield communicated promptly. The electrician that came out found that there's a bad three-way switch, and he resolved it. There was another chandelier that wasn't working properly but he couldn't get into the chandelier to check the wiring, so he couldn't fix it which was fine. He was very polite and made me feel very safe. He did a good job.

My Sub-Zero refrigerator was not working well. It's so difficult to submit a claim with AHS. Every call, I have to wait about an hour before I can get through and after that, they'll find a repair company that's not familiar with Sub-Zero refrigerators. The company sent the same people three times to my home, so every time I'm working with them, I have to stay home just to wait for them. The first time, they did something, and after they left, it was the same situation. So I had to call American Home Shield just to tell them it's not working so, I had to wait for an hour. When it finally went through, they sent the same guy again so, I complained. I said that the company wasn't familiar with how to repair this kind of refrigerator but they didn't care. They sent the same guy again in two days. He did something again, then he said there shouldn't be a problem.
After he left, the same situation persisted. I have to wait to report to American Home Shield again. For that, it took 10 days. Then they sent the same person again to my home. I asked them if they could find somebody who's familiar because the person already came twice. Then a person came and did something but it's still not working so I had to call again and waited for another. I told them to not send us the same person to my home for the fourth time. They finally said they'd find somebody. Somebody called then in a couple of days, I had to call again.
Finally, I asked for the supervisor and said, "This is messed up". I talked to a supervisor but two weeks had already gone that I couldn't use my refrigerator. They got somebody who's familiar with the refrigerator and they came yesterday. The guy said that he knew what happened and that he had to order some parts so, that would take another week to wait for the part. If the part comes, then at least it will be put in the same week.
I had a problem with my air conditioner before but that was very quickly fixed so, it depends on the company. They don't have a reliable company in a certain location so, that created the problem. I also have a rental home so, I have two contracts with them. Each time I called them for the service, I had to pay $75. Now, they add $8 for tax. The other one right now, it comes over $100 per service call. I told them that I never changed the contract but they said that I have to wait for another year to make sure it goes back to the $75.
My rental home also has a Sub-Zero refrigerator. For the last two weeks, my tenant complained and said that the refrigerator was not doing well. For that refrigerator, AHS found a person who specializes in Sub-Zero but for my refrigerator at my home, they couldn't find the same person. They found a person who's one hour away who came three times. I asked them how come they're able to find a specialist for my tenant's house. They said that when they put my address in, they couldn't find a vendor so it's a mess. It's very disappointing. The problem is psychological and you cannot handle it. When something goes wrong, it will go on forever. You have to make all these calls and it will take weeks to finally solve some problems.
Ganru,
We do understand how important a refrigerator is needed in the household. It appears we are currently still working to get this issue resolved. A social media specialist from American Home Shield will follow-up with you soon to ensure this is followed through to resolution. Thanks!

What originally started out as a clogged toilet seemed to have transformed into a bigger issue with the sewage line. So, when it was just the toilet, I called AHS on a Friday. They were booked and couldn't come out until Monday. On Monday, they unclogged the toilet and everything seemed fine. We found out later that there was a sewage backup in the basement as well. When I called back to report the sewage problem in the basement, they said that it was close enough and that they would just reopen the ticket. The contractor who came was a nice enough guy. The only thing that was confusing was I thought someone from Anytime Plumbing would be coming out. The van of the guy who came to the house didn’t say Anytime on it. It said A&D Plumbing. What we found out was that this A&D Plumbing does not have a great reputation. But overall, though, AHS was helpful and fast.

Ticket#1: Issue not resolved (Feb to May): My refrigerator gasket went bad on Feb. Some Vendor installed Gasket in Feb, but it did not work. We followed up multiple times and we were told to keep trying. Nothing worked! Ticket#2: Same issue reopened and still not resolved (June to Till date): Eventually I called AHS in June stating prior service did not work. I was told new ticket should be created for this time (since prior service is more than three months). New ticket was created and new vendor service (universal) person came in June and mentioned Gasket which was installed before was incorrect. They placed order for Gasket and told it is on backorder and it will take few months to get gasket.
We waited patiently and they finally arrived on 08/30 to install. But now they are saying the refrigerator they placed order for is different. They sent me few photos of fridge for which they placed order. It is NOT my fridge! We waited for 3 months for absolute no use, because they placed order for some wrong fridge which is not ours. They are claiming that we changed our fridge, which is incorrect. We have fridge with bad gasket since Feb - nothing changed from our side.
Confusion inside AHS Customer Service: As next step, I called customer service (waited for 1.5 hrs to get someone) yesterday evening (8/30). They told me to call Appliance Purchasing Department in morning. After 1.5 hours of wait again, I was able to reach Customer Service in morning. Now I was told I shouldn't reach appliance purchase, because there is no work order for purchase. Wrong information from AHS agent - I am confused! I told them I am done waiting and I would like to cash out for gasket. They forwarded to Cash out Dept stating I am all ready for cash out...
Now Cash out dept says they cannot cash out, until the confusion/issue with vendor is resolved - Wrong information from AHS agent - I am totally confused! I frustrated baby sitting this process. In Nut Shell: AHS just acts as portal for linking people. No escalation path for confusion. No ownership for resolving issues. NO defined SLAs for fixing issues. I paid 75$ twice for vendors to fix my fridge and waited for 6 months. Result - absolutely nothing!!! Now I placed an order for refrigerator myself outside. Such a waste of time (6 months) and money (150$) with AHS!

American Home Shield has been doing fine, except for one of the contractors they sent. His and Her Plumbing was to put in our water treatment system and they charged me $300. They brought it out in an unmarked box. There was no paperwork and when I asked for the warranty, the person they sent said I have to go online and get it. They were able to put in the water treatment system and then the container that holds the salt. But it had a 60-degree angle so I’ve had the contractor out.
The four times they came, all they did was dig a little bit around it enough to where they could get it up straight. Then they take a little bit of rocks to stack around. But as soon as the first rain comes, it’s back to the same angle. Every time I called His and Her Plumbing, they send someone and still get the same results. They don’t seem to be interested so I got tired of calling them. I already found someone who’s going to fix it for me. While I’m very dissatisfied with the water treatment system contractor, American Home Shield was pretty good on other things they have sent out a contractor for. My wife also said the claim submitting process is no problem. So far, we’re satisfied with AHS and anything from regular plumbing, I’d recommend them.

I had a recent issue with the ice maker in my Frigidaire refrigerator. I called AHS and filed a claim for it and it was easy. The representative simply asked about the problem and the model number. They assigned a claim number and within 24 hours, the service company called and set up the appointment. Since the repair, I've had no issues with the ice maker. American Home Shield is a professional organization. Their contracts are easy to read and they follow it to the word. There has never been a hesitance on their part to say, "No, that's not covered." Also, I've had various technicians and 90% of them fixed the problem the first time.

We had an AC problem and submitted a claim to AHS. Their claims process was easy but most times, an issue took them five days to get it fixed, then they come back three times to get it right. I talked to somebody there every time and there's not really a resolution. The AC is working fine now. But the first time, the vendor said something was caught up or wasn't moving and he did something. It worked for two days, and then it started blowing out again. Then they came back out, and I asked out what it was, said some type of sensor. It worked for a few days and then it went out, and then they finally fixed it.
After a week or two, it's not blowing as cold as it was. It was still cold but it wasn't keeping up. They found something was leaking and fixed it. It’s very frustrating getting repairs done, it takes multiple times all the time, back and forth. They should get more competent contractors. Like with the appliance, they sent out some dude who doesn’t speak English very well. It took about five times to fix it. But overall, I like the service and it’s good to have.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield was my air conditioning, which went on the fritz in the first part of May. We went without air conditioning with 95 degrees in our house from May until August 1st. AHS sent out seven different people on May 20th that could not fix the problem, so we requested that they send out another air conditioning company. They sent four different companies, and not one could solve the problem. They were all saying that it was our ductwork up inside our ceiling, and they wanted us to cut holes in our ceiling to find out where the problem was in our ductwork. I refused and told AHS, “How about you let me get an outside company to come in and see if he can find the problem and fix it.” American Home Shield agreed, so I called the person that we usually get to fix our air conditioning. The tech came out here and within 15 minutes, he had it fixed.
The repair had nothing to do with our ductwork. The problem was one of the companies put a fan motor that goes on the compressor. He put it on backwards and It was turning backwards. So there was no way he was going to get any air flow coming through the vents because it was pumping the air out of the house back into the unit. Now our air conditioning is wonderful and we have had no more problems with it. However, American Home Shield is supposed to reimburse us $325 for what our air condition guy charged. They said we would have it within a week to ten days, and we haven’t received it yet.
American Home Shield was good to fix my washing machine. We were also having a problem with some plumbing and they got it fixed the first time. But overall I would not recommend any of their companies for air conditioning. There are better ones out there than what American Home Shield is. I never talked to the same person at American Home Shield twice. They would say they would call us back, but they never returned our call. We always had to get on the phone and call them back. And a lot of times, we were on hold. And some of them would try to help us while others would just transfer us.

In my recent claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning, the contractor and I had some trouble figuring out what the problem was. It took five weeks to resolve. They said it was a part that took some time to order and when it came, they went back here. It was leaking again and they put more freon in. That didn't work, so then they figured out a part might have been installed wrong. Then it got cold. When it broke down, it was on a Friday afternoon and when I was calling AHS, I had to call back two of the three times. I had to wait all the way until Monday to get anybody to answer a call, even though they said that the person that was coming out to service was open on Saturday. Nobody ever returned my phone call. It was a tedious experience.

I've had American Home Shield for quite a while now and I'm happy with them. My most recent claim with them was my kitchen faucet. A plumber came out and he was just here for three to five minutes. He just opened the sink and looked under it. He took out his iPhone and took a picture. He showed me a picture of looks like the seal in the faucet. He said that we have to order the part and he'd have to get it approved from AHS.
AHS called me and said that the plumber had to make modifications to the pipes in order to fix the faucet. The plumber didn't even tell me about the pipes and there's no pipe that goes to the faucet or connects to it. I just didn't understand that at all. It would cost me $175 to modify the pipes and the faucet was $50. So I told them not to do it. I called my cousin and we went to Lowe's and bought the faucet that was exactly like the one that was on the sink for $50. We came back and put it on. We didn't have to modify anything and just replaced it with exactly what was on it. This particular experience with them it was not good.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield for my refrigerator. I called in and got the service request created. But before that, I have tried submitting a claim online, which is how I prefer it done because it’s so much easier, but I couldn’t get the website to work, it would not submit. Anyway, the contractor then came, and they were professional, courteous, attentive and worked hard to resolve the problem. Overall, the service works well.

We experienced our air condition unit to start not getting cold. It happened four days and we called American Home Shield. It was easy to file a claim with them. They scheduled an appointment with an AC group and about four days after we made the appointment, they sent the folks out to assess the problem and suggested that our AC was just short on Freon. The guy who came out was nice, explained everything to us and got the AC working well. Everything was perfect. AHS works really well, we like the experience and we’re happy with them. In fact, we tell people about them all the time.

American Home Shield was offered to us when we purchased our home. The contract was for one year. We didn't research any other warranty companies and continued to renew with American Home Shield for the last six years. We had a recent claim on our air conditioner and I had called to cancel my contract because I had gone through a lot of annoyances dealing with customer service, and being passed around, and no one giving me a sure answer. Then I spoke with a lady in the retention office to help me out and put me in contact with someone. If it hadn't been for her taking care of that matter, I would have definitely cancelled my contract. A different contractor came out that day and took care of my problem.
It was hard to get contractors out here because they were so busy with contracts. It would be weeks at a time before they could come out. Heat and air have been the two main problems here. I have three small children and when it comes to the air condition or the heat, that needs to be a priority. What's frustrating is that the air conditioner has had so many problems, and AHS won't condemn it. They just continue to piece and put new parts on it until it wears out. We keep showing the money to get that over and over again. The unit is as old as this house, so it's going to keep breaking down. It would save everybody time, headache, and money in the end if they’d replace it. I was told by their customer service representative that there were no other contractors in our area who would fix the AC, and that was not true.
Also, I was paying the older contractor on the spot when he was finished with the job. But, they were not reporting to AHS that it was paid. So, I received multiple emails and harassing letters, stating that they’re going to cancel my contract. Several times I had called AHS and was treated very ugly by the customer service representative, and even hung up on. It's very frustrating. I have multiple neighbors who have dealt with the old contractors that aren't happy as well. That is something that needs to be looked into. The new contractors are excellent, though. I called and a man came out in 10 minutes and took care of my problem in less than 45 minutes. But overall, it hasn’t been a good experience with American Home Shield.

We called AHS for a leaking toilet and a bathroom. Submitting a claim was easy. It took a couple of days for the contractor to come out and then the job was finished. We've had them for a number of years and they're responsive to our needs. If something's wrong with one of the contractors we let them know and they find somebody else for us. We've always been very pleased with the service and the quality that we've got. It's a bargain for the price that we pay.

The American Home Shield interface was easy to get in. I just logged in, put the information and things happened. When I turned in the claim, everything was fixed. We were at our rental house the following weekend after the fix and things seemed to be working okay. AHS's service worked as advertised.

I called AHS about the freezer late at night and I got to them very quickly, but they did not have anyone who could come out right away. I told them I was concerned because everything was going to spoil and the rep checked and got permission to send the job to somebody else. She gave me their dispatch number and their name and their phone number and said that that person would be calling. I called the contractor the night before but he made it that day and he came in. He opened the freezer, took out the top rack and turned it around, put it in and then he closed the freezer. He said the freezer wasn’t closing because the top rack was put in backward. We were new to the house and whoever cleaned the freezer put the top rack in that way. It took the contractor two minutes to fix the problem and I had to pay him $75 but it’s worth every penny.
For my plumbing problem, I had to wait a very long time on the phone calling AHS, and it was very frustrating. Due to visual problems, I just do the phone, but I ended up hanging up and trying to call back again. AHS did send a plumber and the contractors from J & M Plumbing have been really sweet people. I had a couple of clogged drains that they did very quickly and very easily. I also had two toilets that had problems with flushing and the contractors also looked at those. One of the toilets needed a new part but the contractors had everything that was needed in their car and they were able to take care of both of those things as well. Also, the shower piece was leaking out where the water comes out. When I turn it from the shower tub to the shower head, I can turn the water and it will go up to the shower head but it’s still coming out of the faucet part.
The contractor was able to fix that problem by tightening something but there was a diverter needed. He didn’t know if the diverter would be covered given the expense of getting it in that particular color. If they did get it in that color, they’d have to order the part and it wasn’t something they could do that day so they had to come back. They called me back and they did end up getting approval from Home Shield for that. I was very happy because it’s like a copper kind of color. They came back another day and they’re very good about the timing, letting me know when they were coming and not just showing up and sticking to the window of the thing that was scheduled. The diverter was like a big piece that had to be changed but, again, they were very professional and they did a great job.
There was also some jiggling in the shower pole itself and the contractors said that in order to fix the jiggling and the shower pole, it would have required someone else to cut into those walls in order to be able to access the stuff and then to have it made look pretty after it was fixed. That wasn’t something that they could do as plumbers. I was concerned about its jiggling because I was afraid it would end up breaking. The contractor was really clever and he used a dark colored plastic tie that wouldn’t show with this color piping. He held the piece to the wall and he put his plastic tie in really tight and he held it in place. He said the tie might hold the jiggling for a while, but it’s been holding the shower pole ever since. He said that if the tie ever loosens up, I just have to tighten it again. They clipped it so you don’t even see it and it was a very creative, ingenious fix. I was really impressed with the service that was provided.
I had a plumber in from J & M Plumbing for something that AHS would not cover before I had these plumbers in. It was a different shower head that had a crack in it and it was found on the inspection of the house. My understanding is, if it’s found on inspection, then it won’t be covered so I was kind of bummed about that. The sellers said that what they did was functional and it was fine but it was a do-it-yourself thing. Another thing that came up on the inspection was that our gutters not only needed cleaning but also some downspouts which were missing. I had someone in because the air conditioning needed regular maintenance and, like the gutters, that’s not covered by Home Shield. The people that came to do the regular maintenance on the air conditioning also did plumbing so while they were in the house, I had them look at these things that were and weren’t covered by Home Shield.
With the price quotes that I got from the contractors, they would have charged me a lot more money to do the things that Home Shields covered. I sort of do a cross comparison. If I had to pay for a plumber to come in and do the things that were covered, it would have cost me actually a few hundred dollars and instead, it cost me $75. I knew when I called Home Shield that that $75 on the plumber was going to be worth it. The $150 on the two calls that I had them come for, saved me more than $150. So the $650 or so that it cost for the policy all total, I’ve saved quite a bit so far. There have been some things I knew that Home Shield has not covered but I was really happy that they covered everything that they did.

I was on vacation when my central air broke down. My golf partner does heating and air conditioning. I didn’t call him because I have American Home Shield. A First Response was the first company to come out and they are the worst company in the world. What the technician told me was the reason why it happened, why my lines froze up, and everything stopped working because I ran low on coolant. He said, “Listen, I’m not going to fix the leak. I’m not even going to look for the leak because if I find it, chances are it’ll be in an inoperable area where I’m not going to be able to fix it anyway.” So he told me he'd put in the sealant which by the way was pretty much insurance fraud because I didn’t know if he did that. He charged me $107 for it. So, it was a $700 something bill and he said, “ A First Response will pay for $10 of your coolant, but after that, it’s up to you. It’s $50 per gallon.” He didn’t ask me how much I needed.
My best friend, Dave, who was three doors down me called me and told me paying the technician $50 per gallon didn’t seem right. I looked at it and he’s up to 11.82 pounds. When I first bought the house two years ago, my best friend came over and put in an R22. He put in three pounds and it was full, and everything worked. I let the technician keep working and he told me I was set. My best friend was here and said, "They said you’re all set, but there’s still no cold air coming out of here." A First Response blamed it on a bad belt. So I went and got a heavy-duty belt, paid $20 myself, and left it there for the technician to put in. But they put in a starter belt and said I was all set again.
Then, my fiancee and I were sitting in my living room and all of a sudden there was smoke pouring out of all my vents. We started running all over the place trying to find what was going on. I went upstairs and I realized it has got something to do with the central air. So, I shut my thermostat, both switches, to off and I could hear the air. All the smoke stopped coming out of the vents, but I still could hear an engine running upstairs in the attic. I ran up to the attic and sure enough, there was smoke everywhere. So, I ran out back to my basement and shut the power breaker off. I was so disgusted. So I called right away to complain and they took it like it was no big deal.
And not only that, the second company, Malangone, came out and as soon as the first technician looked at it, he said, “I can’t work on this.” It came to be a faulty power breaker. I didn’t know what A First Response did. They wired stuff from the thing with the arc in it. I went to open the panel to my unit and sparks were flying off my screw driver. I got the panel off and looked at it. There were supposed to be three capacitors in there, one capacitor was the size of a Pepsi can. They’ve got metal touching a hot lead coming out.
So, what A First Response did didn’t fix the problem. Not only did they not do their job correctly, they almost burned down my house. Malangone said they can’t work on it because even with the power breaker off, there was still power coming through. They said they needed an electrician out before they did anything. Before they got to that power circuit, they took the test and said it’s totally overcharged. There was 6.5 gallons in there. Some of what I paid for the $700 was the coolant which overloaded and totally fried the system. It was an old system, but it worked perfect until that one problem that A First Response said was low on coolant.
And then American Home Shield called me again to confirm an appointment. They also said that the second company, Malangone, found the bad parts that A First Response did wrong that almost burned my house down, and that they were sending A First Response back out. A First Response called me and I told them I didn’t want them in my house ever again. I then I called American Home Shield back and they said, “Nope. You have to take them and you have to let them correct their mistake.” I said, “Listen. I don’t want them in home again. My daughter could have died up in her bedroom. We were going to leave for the night. And that’s not how you do things. Everything they touch, they wreak.” American Home Shield looked into more paperwork. My fiancée called to say it was unacceptable and also told them she was going to sue if it doesn’t get fixed. It’s been a nightmare all summer long. There was no central air. I bought my own window units and American Home Shield is going to refund me $100 at some point for those.
My electricity bill shot up, and though we're finally at the point where Malangone is putting in a new unit and Malangone has been nothing but great, I’m absolutely dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I can’t believe they tried to send out that A First Response again like they’re going to fix their mistakes. And what pisses me off even more is that I didn’t hire A First Response, I called American Home Shield. They hired them and they won’t even help me get my money back from them. The cherry on the top of it, Malangone took all those 12 gallons. They had to suck it all back out and put it into a jug to bring someplace else to resell it. I just paid $600 for that coolant that they're sucking out and go give it to somebody. They said they charge $120 per pound and I only paid $50 a pound.

Our air conditioner broke down and the company that American Home Shield sent to work on it did a terrible job. We had to get it repaired but trying to get service was a problem since we’re in Tuscaloosa and nobody in our town and in the town closest to us will contract with American Home Shield. I called six different companies and when I finally got one that would come and look at it, they weren’t affiliated with American Home Shield. So I had to pay extra money out of my pocket to find out what the guy had done that didn't work right.
A coil was set inside the system and it had to be replaced. AHS said that they could let the contractor that they used before work on it, but I wouldn’t have that contractor back to my house because when he came the second time, he left the whole unit apart. And when I got home from work, I didn’t have air and it was ninety degrees inside my house which was hotter than the temperature outside. My dog and I got sick, too. So AHS said they could do a payout but it would be for $800 only and I have to call some other company to do it.
My air conditioner is 12 years old and I have the old R-22 Freon that needed to be put it. When I talked to local companies, nobody wanted to put that Freon in because they want to try to upgrade me to a new unit. They also said that if they replaced the coil at $1,200, I still have to $1,000 for Freon. Then I'll have to upgrade in a few years so I'm already going to be out of pocket $2,500. They said they would give me a $1,000 trade in but when I asked American Home Shield for a new unit, they told me that they won't give me one. So right now, it looks like I'll have to replace my whole air conditioning system myself and pay it out of my pocket.
I have AHS for over 10 years and I didn’t have any problems with them before. This is the worst time and I don't want to deal with them anymore. I still have them for this year to March and I will not be renewing my contract. I’m disappointed in who they contracted with and I'm not satisfied that they can't have a contract with someone in the local area. The people in our town would contract out of Birmingham and they're only in Tuscaloosa three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so even if I met them for any repair on my air conditioner, I still don't have a 24-hour service. All they've been trying to do is sell me a unit but I told them that I'm not buying one from them. I'm going to buy it from somebody locally that would service it and that would be here if I need it. I'm not going to be at their discretion.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the hot water heater. The contractors were decent but it took a couple of weeks for them to get it squared away. I’ve been with the company since ’96 and they were great but what they've done decreased quality. They used to come out and repair the problem the same day. If it went beyond a week, they replace the item. But now, the contractors come to our house to do an evaluation and if there are parts needed, they have to take that information back, enter it into a computer and then American Home Shield orders the parts and sends it to the contractors. So, the contractor is at the mercy of AHS to get the part to rectify the problem and that's taken up a lot of unnecessary time.
Right now, the cooktop, a washing machine, and a dryer are all down and they’re on the same ticket. We need to take all these clothes to the Laundromat and I hate going there because we have a washer and dryer at home. And then we’re using a hot plate to cook. It all gets convoluted in the process. AHS needs to visit their process or they’re going to lose a lot of customers. I have friends that have home warranties and they tell me about these other people but I stayed with American Home Shield. But, this being loyal to a company doesn’t work anymore. They were a company that I recommended to friends and relatives all the time across the country, but I couldn't do that now.
People that control the money at American Home Shield needs to understand what they did in the past worked. We had a refrigerator and we paid good money for it. And then the algorithm dropped out of the microprocessor and the refrigerator went wacky. They came over and analyzed it. There was something wrong with it but they said they couldn’t fix it. They asked me to give them $50 and they'll replace it with a new one. Three days later, a brand new refrigerator was put in our home and they took the old one out. Otherwise, their customer service in the office is excellent. They're very gracious and they take care of me.

Each repair person has a different diagnosis, yet none of worked.
Trying to get someone on the phone with this company is almost impossible! Plan on at least 45 minutes just to reach a human being - who then does nothing but put in yet another work order. The refrigerator obviously needs to be replaced - there isn't a part left that has not been replaced, but the company refuses to do so! Stay away from this company!!!

When I was shopping for a warranty company, American Home Shield had a lower number of bad reviews than their major competitors. But I found out that AHS is absolutely horrible. I've been a customer of theirs for a couple of years now, and they won't pay for anything. Recently, I had two things coming. One with my plumbing, and another with my air conditioner. And there's a problem with one of my drain lines coming from my laundry room. They're not gonna do anything about it. They're not gonna fix it and they don't cover anything.
I've had two of their people come out for my air conditioner. Both of them have told me that the system needs to be replaced. But American Home Shield will not replace it, They keep trying to send people to fix this or that, and nothing is fixing anything. I've had to pay $345 for some guy to come out and clean out its coil and put more Freon in. It's been going on for two months now. And so, I've had to go out and buy window units just to keep my house cool enough where it's tolerable. I fully expect them to tell me they're not gonna fix it when this is all over. I got the guys coming out Monday morning to assess the system again, even though it's been assessed five times. So I'm very, very, very unhappy with American Home Shield. I would not waste my money if I had it to do it over again. I am sick to death for American Home Shield. I would never ever recommend them to anybody.

I had an air conditioning unit that was frozen up due to lack of Freon, so I called American Home Shield and it's relatively difficult. The wait is long when you call but once you get a hold of them, they're very responsive. It was a 112 heat index on that particular day, so they classified it as an emergency and they were out within three hours which was remarkable. Their rep was fine and the contractor was a knowledgeable young man and fixed the problem immediately. I know the call load must have been heavy with temperatures like that.
However, in the past, I had a couple of problems with one of their contractors. I had to have my thermostat replaced but the contractor said the only one he had on his truck was the plain thermostat and I have a programmable. I refused to have them put that in and I said, "No. I want it replaced with a programmable." He said, "Well, I don't have one." So, I had to call the company and they were very responsive again. They talked to the contractor and he did bring me a programmable thermostat. I know they take the contractors by bid but my only complaint is that every once in a while, I get a contractor that is not the most congenial but 75% to 80% of the time, they are.
Also, I had to have my dryer replaced last fall. We went through that a couple of times and American Home Shield offered me something. I looked it up online and they didn't have the options that my previous one had, so they made me another offer. We finally settled on one and they were very good about that. It was delivered and installed like they said it would be and everything was up to standards. Overall, I'm pleased with them and had very few problems. When they tell me they will do something, they do follow through and get things done.

I had a back-to-back claim for a dryer because it wasn’t working. I signed in to American Home Shield and filed a claim online. It was self-explanatory and you can be done in two or three minutes. I really like it and that it's a lot better than it was four or five years ago. I got a text and an email from AHS saying that they will call within a certain timeframe. Apparently, the contractor had changed the person that was answering the phones so it was a little hard to get in touch with them. The technician from Jones Family Appliance Repair has been out on the last three or four calls I've had and he’s been wonderful. He fixed my dryer, my microwave, and my dishwasher on three different occasions. I like the fact that it's the same person because I've used AHS a lot of times, more than I thought they probably would want me to but I don’t always get the same person every time but I have for my heating and air. I don’t think they recognized me, but that’s okay.
The dryer was fine. However, my heating and air don't heat in the winter at some point and I can't get the heating people over to diagnose the problem. The problem is they’ll come two days later and the low for the day would be 40 instead of 22. It has to be really cold for my heating to go out, which is frustrating. If I would hire somebody to come out and look at it, they would fix the part, but because they can't diagnose the part without showing AHS, that does make me mad because they're wasting everybody’s time. It feels like they're trying to skirt the issue. Also, I didn’t like it when the heating and air people came from a town that’s 25-30 miles away and it took them a long time to get here. I would prefer somebody local.
Other than that, everything had been fine and everybody had been timely. It's been a lot better than if I hired somebody on my own. It's a lot simpler. The contractors were paid upfront so they don’t have to collect the money. I don’t know if they got strung out on their payments. I've heard a bit of complaint from them, but I don't know how bad it is. If I pay AHS before the guy comes, I don’t know if they immediately release the money or let it sit for 30 days. I have a small business and that irritates me when people get paid and they don’t pay me for a while. Nevertheless, AHS was showing improvement. They really ticked me off with the way they handled a few things when we first got them, but it's gotten a lot better.

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for our AC and I requested the same company that serviced it in May because they knew of the existing problem. AHS said they were going to send that company and they ended up calling another company, so I had to call them back to straighten that out. They gave us priority service and they fixed the problem with the AC that day. So far, everything’s been fine. It was a very satisfying experience.

I had three claims in the last month, which two of them were repeat claims. The dishwasher has taken over 60 days but still not resolved. A tech came, took 10 days to get a part, and fixed the problem, but the same thing broke again after using it for two days. I had to go through the process again. Four days later a guy came and then another 10 days for the part. When he got here to put the part in, he said there's another part that's broken and he has to go get it. We had to call AHS and they told us they'll send the part and it would take 10 days. That's when I got mad. I’ve been into this for over 30 days now. It costs $300 for the dishwasher and they could replace it for less than it's taking them to do this process. AHS said as long as it can be fixed, they’ll just fix it.
It doesn't make sense. They pay $800 to fix it instead of paying $400 to replace it. Three days later I get an email from them asking for more information. I got a Whirlpool Gold dishwasher and they wanted to give me a GE. If I want the model I have, I have to pay an extra fee, which seems to be the whole thing. I'm paying an extra fee for every time I do something with them. Not just my copay. I paid $87 more just to get the style of dishwasher that matches what's in my house. Also, to haul the unit away is another extra fee. They can get the dishwasher at Home Depot but they said they had to get it from the manufacturer and will be the 15th of September before I get it.
This was two weeks ago. J.B. Hunt called today to say they're delivering on the 30th. I asked who will install and they said it's not their problem and I had to call AHS. I called AHS an hour on the phone today waiting. I spend 45 minutes on them on hold every time I call them. The lady told me to call them again when I have the dishwasher. To sit on the phone another 45 minutes and then wait another 5 days for them to install. J.B. Hunt told me they’re going to deliver it on Wednesday. Why can’t we set up install on Thursday?
I had an air conditioner problem and they had to come back three times to fix it. I ended up paying a bunch of money just because I had to bring it up to codes. I also had to pay $1000 for Freon. I also had a water heater go out. The guy who came and put it in was fine, but it took forever to get the approval to get it done and again pay several hundred dollars for changing the lines and soldering. I pay them money to have it covered but I end up paying junk fees.
The problem is I can’t get pass one level in their company. Everybody stonewalls you and is unresponsive to the customer. They do not have adequate people to handle the problems as well as adequate procedures to resolve a problem when it exists. Once I sell my house next year, I don't know if I’ll ever use American Home Shield again. I've had them for 25 years in the houses I've had and they make me feel like, "Your stuff will start breaking. Let's see if we can make him quit American Home Shield, so we don't have to pay anything."

I had a claim last week with American Home Shield for the ceiling fans, exhaust fan and a hard-wired smoke detector. I submitted it over the phone and it took me a long time to get through. I waited for about 30 minutes before they answered and I’d never want to do that again. But when I got them on the phone, it went well. The contractor they sent was Mike and he's a very receptive guy. He did his job and he was closer. After he got the fans fixed, they are good as new.

I submitted a claim to AHS for our air conditioning over the phone and it was quick. But I've had to go through a couple of other experiences wherein they didn't repair the air conditioning properly. It took them three weeks and they still didn't repair it. I was angry and I called back for a final service. I love the last company that came out. They did a good job. The guy took 25 minutes to do whatever he had to do. I like American Home Shield and I'm glad I have it. Both of my children have homes and they both have American Home Shield on my request. I just wish when we have a problem or something didn't go right with the situation that I can get in touch with somebody that I can speak to.

The air condition people came out, re-checked the AC unit and said that there's something wrong with the ductwork. They sent it over to AHS so that AHS would send somebody else to do the ductwork. However, no one from AHS contacted me back yet. I called and submitted that claim three weeks ago and they left me without air condition all this time knowing I have asthma. My brother-in-law came to the house and found out that the grates were squished so he popped them back up. We fixed the AC but it’s not fixed that well so AHS should contact me right away. I’d seen on the news that somebody had a problem with American Home Shield because they left her without AC for weeks at a time. That’s what AHS planned on doing to me and they didn’t care if I died from not having AC. I’ve never had hardly any problems with AHS until now.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim for our air conditioner and I had to wait about an hour for a representative to come on the line. It was ridiculous. They should get somebody to answer the phones quicker. The first time, the mechanic Johnson came and he charged my husband $80, aside from the $75 service fee, because he said the air conditioner had a maintenance issue and that the coil needed cleaning. Everything was done and he checked that my air filter was working. He said it was okay and he put it back. However, the system didn't need cleaning because I've only had it for about a year or so and it was a fairly new system. I got back home by 8 that night and the air conditioner still wasn't working.
I called American Home Shield back and Johnson came back. He told my husband we needed Freon when we didn't. I told him the air conditioner still wasn't working and he told me everything was fine. He couldn't figure it out so he got back in his truck and left. So I called American Home Shield and they said they were going to bring Johnson back but I didn't want him back out and I told them to give me somebody else. However, they said I had to stick with Johnson because they haven't got his report back and they couldn't send somebody else until then. But I didn't care about the report and I didn't want him back to my house because I feel like he ripped my husband off because my husband has Parkinson's.
When they got the report, they called me back and Johnson told them everything was fine but I told them that wasn't true. They sent out Myers out of Birmingham and he told me the house was not getting air circulation because Johnson had put the filter back in wrong. The system outside was running fine as well and it didn’t need any Freon. I asked him what it was that Johnson cleaned and charged my husband for and he pointed out the coil which was the vent that sticks out. It's outside all the time and that's what he cleaned out. He blew it out and charged my husband for it. American Home Shield couldn’t give my $80 back but they reimbursed me the $75 service fee. It took me five days to get my air conditioning fixed and it was hot, but it is running fine now. It was great when the problem was solved. I'd recommend American Home Shield and they shouldn't go up on the service fees anymore.

I have been giving American Home Shield a very poor rating over the last 2 years. Because of issues we had with them that cost us over $1,000 out of pocket. No one at American Home Shield would give us the time of day, be sympathetic, or even look into this issue. Until finally a gentleman by the name of Dinkard **. He listened, and got in touch with me and got the issue resolved. We received a check for $700 which is short of the $1,000 we had to pay out of pocket but better than nothing. So after 2 years of this battle he got this result for us thank you so much! Would I go back to American Home Shield, never. But at least he helped us resolve this and I thank him for that.

We had American Home Shield for over a year when our air conditioner went out. We live in Phoenix. The temperatures were well over 100 degrees. It took them 10 days to fix our air conditioner! In the meantime we had to move into a hotel and eat all of our meals in restaurants. The expense was unbelievable! They did nothing to try to expedite or to help us. I do not recommend American Home Shield to anyone!

I recently submitted a claim online with American Home Shield for my air conditioner. I did it on a Friday and the contractor called me on Monday. I have someone else living in my home and she raved about the contractor and said that he was the best one she's ever had. The air conditioner is now working fine since the repair. I like the convenience of the plan. It’s nice to be able to call and just to know that you’re going to pay that deductible for whatever the problem is. The downside is if it’s something minor and it wouldn’t have normally cost that much. I've also had visits before where the contractors weren’t very nice. But otherwise, I haven't had any problem. I have referred American Home Shield to other people.

Once he got the ceiling fans done, he made sure that we went to each and every room to show me what he had done and the part that he had installed that corrected the problem. After the repair, the ceiling fans' performance was A-1. I was very satisfied with that recent service. Overall, American Home Shield is a great company and I like them.

I was picking up things to give my grandmother a surprise party. We stopped by the house and I was the one surprised. One of the faucet stuff on the toilet popped off and broke while we were at work so when we got home and walked down the hallway, our shoes were covered in water. We panicked and did an emergency call to Montgomery Water Works. They turned the water off in order to do the repair, and we were cleaning and getting a wet vac as well. So we had done a lot before thinking to call the insurance company, but when I called American Home Shield a couple of days later to put in the claim, it was very easy. They had someone come out last Monday to check the water damage, and a contractor is coming out tomorrow, Friday.

Because I could not get off from work, I got my neighbor from across the street. She called me when they got there and called me again when the job was completed, which was less than 20 minutes. She told me that everything went like clockwork and it was quick. Everything went well and it was lovely. The air conditioner went out a year from when it last went down. That first time I had to be out of my house for four days and wait for the repair guys because nobody local was available. Now, I'm perfectly happy, satisfied, and fine as long as I got air when it's 108 degrees.

I just bought a house and that's how I got American Home Shield. Recently, I tried to get them to come out to look at the installation of my hot water heater. They're supposed to cover improper installation but they said that the warranty doesn't cover the venting. They said they wouldn't come out so they refunded the $75 that I paid. It happened with my first claim too. I called a plumber to look at the refrigerator. It's also called an improper installation so they were going around the things that they don't cover. I've called to file a claim but it's easier to get a hold of them online. But, I've had American Home Shield warranties before with another house and a condo that I purchased and they used to go better if you call them on the phone because you don't go through paying $75 for the service call. Then, you'll find out that it's not going to be covered. So, I'll always call from now on.
I had only one technician that come out there and he explained all the things that he couldn't do. He talked about all sorts of different things but he couldn't fix them. However, he was all right, fine, very nice and knowledgeable. He fixed a leak under my sink even though he wasn't supposed to and that seemed to be fine. The one before was cancelled and nobody ever came.
The thing about home warranties is that they have so many different little packages. When I bought my house we requested for them to get a home warranty up to $600 and they chose the cheapest package they could get. It only covered major things like the heat and air and the water heater, which was brand new. It didn't cover tons of stuff. There were also some other things you can add on so it's too confusing. A few years back, it was not quite so pick and choose but now, you choose and pick too many things.

My husband and I have been faithfully paying American Home Shield monthly for more than a year now, but our experience with them was horrible. I am very disappointed with the company for several reasons. My AC wasn’t working and AHS sent someone to fix it. This gentleman looked at it and said everything was fine but I insisted that it’s 87 degrees upstairs in my house. He said that he turned it off and turned it back on and everything’s working fine. Two hours later, it was still 87 degrees in my house.
I told him to come back and he did after two days. He then said that we needed to change the filter. So we went to Home Depot to buy new filters. We came back and put them in but it was still 87 degrees in my house. The same guy returned for the third time. He went to the attic and back outside and said we had some cross wires and that’s where the heat was coming from. I then asked why he wasn’t able to get it figured out the first time. He tried to explain, but by then, I no longer understood what was going on. I told him that he goes home and has a working AC while I have to suffer. He then told me that he got the AC working, but two days later, it went out again.
I was really pissed at this point and called American Home Shield. It didn’t help that they’re very hard to contact, so it’s also hard to get them to reschedule and get somebody to back in here. I had to wait on the phone for 30-40 minutes and if I hang up, I will miss the queue. I would then have to start all over again. It also took them two to three days to come back to my house.
When I finally got hold of them, I said that the gentleman from the company they sent wasn’t doing anything to fix the problem. In addition to the $125 that we paid for the service call with the first company, the guy said that we need to have the unit serviced. So my husband paid an additional 200 dollars to that person. I asked AHS to get me somebody else but they told me that it will be another $125 which wasn’t fair because it’s not my issue. I told them I’m paying a certain amount of money every month and if the provider they are sending cannot fix the problem, then I shouldn’t have to pay another person to come to my house. American Home Shield didn’t take my calls for another three days and I couldn’t get them to call me back. When they finally called my husband, they were insisting that they have been trying to call me.
Meanwhile, the second company called on a Monday said they couldn’t come out until Saturday because they were having a lot of issues with ACs. At this point, I’ve been dealing with this air conditioner issue for three weeks. I told them that I totally understand. The lady said they got my appointment between 12:00 and 5:00 and I told them I’ll make sure to be home. That Saturday, I got a text from American Home Shield at 6:18 in the afternoon that the contractor canceled my scheduled appointment.
I got another phone call while visiting my son in Denver. After introducing who they were and trying to schedule an appointment, I learned that it was the third company from AHS. So I asked if they could come the next day because I was not home at that time. The gentleman came and now, he’s telling me about all these water that’s in my reservoir. He asked how long it has been there, and I said from day one when the first person who looked at the air conditioner came. He then asked if the person never came upstairs and sucked the water out from the pan. I said he had done nothing.
It wasn’t the first time I had this experience from American Home Shield. We had a broken pipe before and someone came. I paid $125 for that person to walk around the house only to tell us that they don’t do exterior pipes and that we have to find somebody else to do it. But what really upset me along with everything that was going on was that there was no feedback and no one calling to check, plus the mere fact I was on the phone for an hour and five minutes listening to that stupid recording but nobody picked up the phone.

I've had American Home Shield since April . My air conditioner stopped working on Sunday. This is my fourth time submitting a claim for that AC because I keep having trouble with it. Submitting a claim with AHS was not an easy process and it was very time-consuming. I didn't get a call from them, and I called and stayed on hold for an hour on Monday. I was getting ready for work and took a shower and did everything I could while on hold. They may have figured that it was me on hold because that was when I was called by the contractor. I've had the same contractor every time. The claim has been resolved and the unit is working now, but it was hot for three days because the earliest the contractor could come out was on Wednesday. The contractor recommended a new compressor, but we haven't begun on that claim yet.
I've also sent an email to AHS about another AC problem that we had. I put the message in through email because I can't speak through the system when online. The system doesn't allow me to and I have to communicate via email or write to AHS. This time, I had to go to a plumber. However, the plumber never showed up, but I still was charged, and I couldn't see why I was charged for service that I didn't receive. I want a refund. I've gone through my emails from AHS to see if I got a receipt for that service call, but I can't find the receipt and that just means that I never received any service, and I want to call somebody at AHS about that matter.
When I talked with the guy from the plumbing company, he said that he couldn't do the repair and he had knocked on my door and he didn't want to get back there. But I told him how could he have done that when I was literally sitting there at the door waiting for him. I will recommend AHS, but the communication with them is definitely horrible.

I used American Home Shield on a kitchen microwave repair and the claim submittal was flawless. It went quick even though my senior executive adviser told me to expect a long hold online or on the telephone. Two gentlemen from Sears Home Repair came out and they were very friendly. One was an office worker that was just out on a ride along and I told them what I thought the problem was. The young technicians went about fixing and the office worker was mostly talking to me and my wife. He's just been bringing the microwave down and putting it back up. But something happened during that period. The office worker went out in front of the house outside to get better cell reception. He must have called back to the office. We had to go so we told them to put the microwave back together. They put it back on the wall and we thought they had fixed it all.
But then hours later we found out that the microwave didn't work when we went through it. The internal light was emanating from areas that it should not be emanating from. I had to call back to American Home Shield and to Sears Home Repair. I told them that they didn't put it back together properly. That was 4th of July weekend. We had to wait over a long weekend before somebody could come back out. Then someone who was knowledgeable came out and he identified that the shield over the light was not replaced properly without pulling the microwave off the wall. He fixed everything and he was in and out.
I'm happy with the call center people that I've interacted with. I talked to a young guy a number of times after the first visit and he was conscientious about taking down every word that I said of the situation, what was wrong, and what hasn't been done. I would recommend AHS but with some caveats. I'm cautiously optimistic that we will continue to have an overall positive experience going forward.

I waited on hold for 30 minutes before I got to a live person but once I did, they were nice. The problem is that they either don’t have enough contractors that work for them or the contractors they have are not from the area and they had to drive in to get to the area.
The contractors were very nice and courteous. They ended up fixing my problem but it’s always in the summer when the air conditioner is broken and it takes five days for somebody to come out. It’s nerve-wracking when something like my air conditioner breaks and I’m in Georgia in a 100-degree heat. There isn’t a sense of urgency. They were great with the other issues I’ve had. My disposal broke and they got somebody out and fixed it. The part they sucked at was the heating and the air conditioner and it happened two years in a row. Both times they didn’t have a contractor in the city so I had to get somebody outside the city. I could never get anybody to call me over the weekend or in the evening and it was frustrating.

My experience with AHS was very nerve-racking. I've been in this house 17 years, used AHS for 15 to 17 ‘cause I never even heard of any home warranty when I first moved in here and I've never had a problem with them until now. I had plumbing issues and it's funny because of this one company they sent out. When they left, my other toilet was dripping and right now, my roof is stained from the water. I called AHS and made another claim but I went with another company, I wasn’t too happy with the first company that they sent out. This first company went to fix my leak in my master bedroom. The technician came out and told me that my bowl was cracked and had to be replaced. He showed me some pictures but I couldn’t see what he was trying to get me to see.
I went out of town but before I left, he told me that AHS will be in touch with me. When I came back, nobody had called me so I called AHS first. They called the contractor then American Home Shield called me and told me that they couldn’t replace the toilet bowl because it wasn’t from normal wear and tear. I had no idea what she was talking about and she made it seem like I was responsible for breaking or cracking the bowl. I was so disappointed with this particular plumbing company. American Home Shield was supposed to send something out where the other company would come out and look at it, but they never did that.
Then another company came out and they were working on my other bathroom. I like them including the guy that came out. He was very professional and courteous with everything. AHS called me and wanted me to do a follow-up. I said that I got this other guy that they sent me and I'll have him to look at it and tell me what's what. He looked at it and said the only thing that he's seen there was a little crack. When the other company put the new bolts in, it cracked it. He said whoever put it in, they put it in too tight, and that’s what cracked it. Still, I couldn’t see any crack, but I'm going by what he tells me. He said it didn’t have to be replaced. Some other lady from American Shield called me and we got into an argument because what I was getting from her was that I was responsible for the crack on the toilet seat and ended hanging up on her. I'm through with American Home Shield.

The worst thing is getting through to American Home Shield because one could be on hold for as long as 40 minutes and that's not a good thing. I've been with them for years and we've never had that experience before. But once you get someone on the line, it's fine. The technician who came was very good. There was some disconnect with the person that we had contracted with, so it took about six weeks to get this done versus a couple of days. They dropped some files or didn't code it properly so we had to call, but it's all done. We also had a dryer that we got fixed right away. My water heater wasn't working and I called it in. After the contracted company called me and I told them the problem, they told me that I might need to call American Home Shield and put an urgency on it. When I called AHS and spoke to a live person, she said that she would take care of it and that it wasn't a problem. They speeded it up because it was my water and someone was out here within 24 hours so the experience was great.
I want to use that service personnel again if I ever have any problems. He was very professional and accurate. He was anxious to get the heater fixed to ensure that I had hot water by the end of the day. Even though I have an older pump, he was able to find what he needed. He should be commended for his effectiveness and his efficiency. Gold stars all the way. Whoever that company is, I would like them back on my list anytime I have that problem. It's been a few weeks now and everything's been working fine. I had an excellent experience.

I did American Home Shield's automated phone system for my leaking hot water heater and the contractor that they sent out was nice. AHS sends out good and reliable contractors. We've been a member with them for at least six years and we've hardly had any issue with somebody not showing. My only issue with them is that our rate increases every year. It has gone up about $200 since we have first started with AHS which is a tremendous amount. AHS raises it $5 to $10 every time. The renewal does not say that they had increases in time. If I was a new customer I could probably get it cheaper than I could as an existing customer. That's aggravating because loyalty should play a part.

When my AC unit backed up again, it leaked to my ceiling. We had to get people to come dry the house out and I had to call my son’s company to get that taken care of. But no one from American Home Shield ever came out. Nobody called me back and I called again, put in the work order and still nobody came out. My husband was very upset because we had water everywhere from the AC backing up. We had to have our AC and we could not continue to wait on AHS. So he called someone else to take care of it. The AC is now working but he had to pay.
In my history with AHS, the technicians were out all the time about the AC but they never fixed it correctly. I'm a breast cancer survivor and I can't be in the heat, but every time we called someone out for our AC, AHS continues to send people who don't know what's wrong. The AC keeps backing up and it's been a mess. One guy put up a thermostat and didn’t even know how to show me how to use it. My house went up to 94 degrees inside when he left. I didn't have a good experience with the technicians except with the one named Mike. He's the only one who's been able to fix the problems or give us some type of relief when something happened. I've had a great interaction with him and I really appreciated him being honest and taking care of the problem.
Also, some of the young ladies at AHS are rude. About a couple of months ago, I had to keep calling them because nobody was calling me back saying that I'm scheduled with anybody. I wasn’t getting any information from the air condition place and they also didn’t know what I was talking about because they had not received the call from AHS. So I called AHS back and the young lady at customer service was very rude and I was very upset with that. I've had American Home Shield for 10 years and I'm not pleased with the service that we've been getting recently. We've been thinking about cancelling and going with another warranty company.

I had an AC problem and called American Home Shield. The first time I called, nobody picked up and for the second time, I was able to reach them but they put me on hold for a very long time. They sent a technician over and the first time he came in, he didn’t take the time to check the AC. He said he can’t do an electrical and left. He never tried it for the switch. We had to call somebody from the electrical to find out what it is. He came and found it out. Then the second guy came in and was able to fix it. It was very simple. He didn’t do much. He just turned the AC on and off. My AC works better now. American Home Shield is good once you reach them.

The first time we called American Home Shield was when the refrigerator went out, and the scheduler was not very nice. Dealing with some of the people on the phone was not pleasant. We've had four calls with AHS already, and I just found it's easier and faster to go online than to call on the phone. But all the service people have been great. We've also had a garbage disposal replaced because it was leaking in the cabinet and the washing machine was leaking inside. Recently, our air conditioner was leaking on the garage so we filed a claim with AHS, and it works fine now. The pipe was just clogged with algae. Overall, AHS is fine. Unfortunately, it's not the same when I can call somebody on my own. A lot of times I get somebody local and they come right out. But when I have to go through AHS, it takes four or five days.

American Home Shield's hold times are insane. We'd be on hold on the phone for 45 minutes before anyone picks it up. That's definitely something that AHS should change, although the reps tried to be helpful to the best of their ability. I had some plumbing issues and the plumbers had to come to my house three times because of a computer mess-up. They were not great but they got the job done.
The people who worked behind the scenes and the contractor were not nice. I did not want them to continue with the service, but since they had already been contracted and had started on the job, AHS wouldn't change them. They were rude and kept telling me that AHS quoted wrongly, but they wouldn't call AHS to ask for a correct quote. They could just have sent over an email to AHS to fix the quote, but they refused to do that and instead wasted a lot of my time. Everything needed a phone call and I had to make four calls, wait 45 minutes each time, and stay home from work because AHS couldn't get things right.
But the service person who came to my home to do the repair was very pleasant and courteous. He wasn't just in and out but really went the extra mile. After he did the job, I noticed that the color of the part was wrong and it wasn't the same as it had been before. He had actually tried to change the color to the correct one, but that didn't work well with the piece, so he changed it back. He went out of his way and really tried, and I appreciated that he wanted to make me happy. Everything's back to normal since the repair and I'm glad it's done. Apart from that, AHS has some service providers who are nice to work with and with whom I'm very happy, and when I have regular appliance issues I always request the same ones. All in all, the experience we had with AHS wasn't such a big hassle and I would recommend them.

The only issue we have with American Home Shield is that they're very hard to get a hold of. It took me two days to get a hold of them. You only have so much time when you're working because you're on hold for minimum 45 minutes to an hour to get a live person. The online thing works great, though. We went online and set up the appointments but they set it up with a contractor that didn't service our area. They were nice enough to call me, though, and show me that.
I understand that summer is busy but I had a water heater leaking. When AHS finally got the right plumber to do the water heater, they were wonderful. Also, I loved the air conditioning contractors who came to our house. As soon as AHS found somebody in my area, they came right out and then fixed my appliance the very next day. They were wonderful but they didn't get paid for a long time. Because AHS took the first contractor, they never paid the second contractor. They were sending me emails and notices but that was never my call. Overall, my experience with AHS has been positive for the service but negative with the communication.

We had a storm come through and it took my main breaker. Me and a friend could not get it back so we thought it needed to be replaced. We called American Home Shield and they came out and fixed it right away. Submitting the claim though was kind of a pain in the neck. I’d prefer to call but then you will have to wait. They really worked hard to steer you toward online but when I finally got to a computer it was easy enough. Once you get through the claim the rest is wonderful. AHS is convenient and it is a broad service at a great price. It would also be great if they will add a mobile app -- just something to make it easier.

I purchased a home, air conditioner leaked, they sent out a vendor that wrongfully told the insurance that there was something missing in my air conditioner. The tech wrote on his documents that the air conditioner was missing an outlet receptacle. Well, if you don’t already know, all hard wired air conditioners don’t have a receptacle or a cord with a plug.... that’s why they are called hard wired. Then calling in to get service was the worst. At least 45 minutes or longer every time I called. Nice to see that you can file your claim online… but when your claim is wrongfully denied you have to talk to someone… good luck. These guys are crooks. If you want a home warranty, look somewhere else. BTW: this warranty was tagged on to my escrow somehow… it wasn’t my choice.

So here I am again... American Home Shield tries to wear you down in order to not cover anything on their home warranties. They are dishonest. They try to find a technicality within your contract to make it not covered. I am beyond frustrated with this company. I have a specialty item at my home they try to not cover because it is not inside the four walls of the home. It is illegal in my state to have this item inside the home. They have covered before. They have sent multiple companies to my home to work on it. It is attached to the home. I am again advising to find any of Home Warranty company. It is not worth the aggravation of the last 3 weeks of saying one thing, then doing another.

We have had 4 repairs that were needed. Three were for the A/C. One for the washer. All took over a week to repair. Two we paid out of pocket to get fixed because it was so delayed in being fixed. We need A/C in July in Las Vegas with little kids. The first repair was poorly done and repairman had to return two extra times to fix it correctly. He installed the fan backwards. Lol. We requested a new company but they send the same one.
We needed a new control panel for the washer and it is going to take more than two weeks for AHS to order the part for the company doing the repair. I waited on phone for over an hour for someone to talk to at AHS just to find out our part was going to take another week to get. Very unhappy with the service. I will be canceling my service. You aren't allowed to talk to a supervisor. They say someone will call me back in 24hrs. We'll see if that happens. For all the premiums I've paid plus the 75.00 copay and 50$ to go to the Laundromat for two weeks this is ridiculous. Don't waste your time or money on this company.

As I'm starting to type this review, I am currently on hold waiting to talk to a representative with American Home Shield. Timer says 44 minutes right now. This is normal. If you need to talk to someone, expect to wait 45 minutes or more. If everything goes smoothly, and repairs get done on time and if they get done right the first time, then you don't need to call. Don't need to speak with a representative. You can request service online, then the local contractor will contact you. However, there have been some issues where I have needed to contact customer support. I've had to call maybe 10 times since I've had the warranty. Including calling for this one issue four times. (Later in this review I will explain my current issue.) I've been with American Home Shield for over a year now. We pay our monthly contract dues (around 50 bucks), then pay $100 for every new issue that requires service. Is it worth it? Maybe.
Financially it has been worth it for us. We live in an older home. The warranty covers a lot of things, but we've run into things that it didn't cover. For instance, if you need an older refrigerant in your A/C, they only cover a small amount. For another instance, we had a water heater go out. The warranty paid for the water heater (yay) but didn't pay for the work that it took to get up to current code. We ended up paying 7-8 hundred bucks, plus the $100 service call. But for most things, I think it is good that we have had this service. I'm thinking about changing to another company though (56 minutes and still waiting on hold). What am I calling about now? We had a plumbing leak in master bathroom sink. I went online to request service. For some reason, the plumber could not get to me quickly.
I thought leak was coming from air conditioner upstairs, and that it was leaking into our bedroom through the walls, as we have had that problem before. Anyway, by the time the plumber could come out, our carpet was soaked (no, the carpet was not covered under the warranty). So the plumber fixed the problem, but he had to cut a hole in our bedroom wall to get to the pipes. Repairing the hole is covered under the warranty. A different contractor is supposed to come out to repair the hole. We waited a week and nobody contacted us or came. So I called American Home Shield (yes, and waited nearly an hour to talk to someone). They said that they had to have a report of some kind from the plumber, and that they would reach out to the plumber to get the report. They told me that I didn't need to do anything else, and that the next communication I would get would be from the new contractor coming to fix my issue.
Well, two months later, and four phone calls later, we have not received word from anyone about the issue. I keep getting assurances that the matter will be handled, but as of now, OVER TWO MONTHS LATER, the problem is not resolved. So I am calling again. (Currently one hour and five minutes on hold.) So unacceptable. Especially when it is THEIR FAULT that my issue is not resolved. The onus should be on them, not on me to keep calling. I bet if I was calling to purchase a home warranty my call would have been answered in no time. I started out this review giving two stars. I'm reducing to one star. Having to wait on hold this long for a customer service-oriented company is just not right. Anytime. But this is not an anomaly. This is what I have to put up with anytime I need to contact them. One hour and 11 minutes, and still on hold, waiting to speak to a rep.
Updated on 10/17/2017: American Home Shield disputed my claim about them, even though we were still in active communication about my issue that is still unresolved. When they disputed it, my one-star rating for this company disappeared, and now, instead of my one-star rating, it says "No Response Received." That is simply not true. Now that my one star was taken away, the company has not responded to me as they promised they would in their last message to me.

After owning home one week the HVAC went out. Called AHS, they had a repairman there 2 days later. He made a quick diagnosis, left to get a part, was there that afternoon, installed part. The part didn't work, turned out the fix was going to require pre-approval from AHS. I have not received a call, email or text from AHS since. I have spent 1-3 hours on the phone each day for them to tell me the job will be escalated, and that I will hear from someone the next day. Then I don't. I understand that the hurricane exacerbated the availability issue, but 7 days after a repairman visitor and we have NO PLAN to go forward? I'm in Georgia, it's August. Are we talking months? I had a leaking faucet then I had blockages in the air conditioner and it was leaking. I submitted claims over the phone to AHS but I can't speak to a human anymore every time I call the phone service. They had also changed the way that I pay and I now have to pay them for the service fee upfront. But then when the man came, they charged me a service fee because they said they didn't get any messages for it.
When I called American Express, the rep said that I shouldn’t have given them the money so she had to call the people back to come and bring my money back then said she was going to call me the next day. But she never called back to clear anything up. It was very frustrating for a long time. Then the same thing happened with the next person who came the next time, but that time I didn't pay them and they worked it out with AHS. AHS should put the information in time for the people who would do service. Other than the service fee issue, I've got no problems with the contractors and they've all been good.

I've had American Home Shield for about 19 years and I've had a good experience with them. But, of late, things aren't going so well. It's harder to get through to them on the phone with the one-hour wait and many times, the norm is at least 30 minutes. Also, I have an issue with them that I couldn't get resolved and I was told that it was, yet nothing has been done. I had a service repair when my air conditioner quit. I went online and put my debit card on file so that they can take the copay deductible when they come out. While waiting for them to come out, I had another service request and they sent the same servicer to do both. He repaired the air conditioner and looked at my ductwork insulation. My paperwork said ductwork was covered but I didn't know what part of it. He took pictures and said, “If they authorize it, I'll come back and fix it." After about a month, when we checked the paperwork, we found out that ductwork insulation was not covered.
I had to put $75 to ductwork against that repair as well and they had done nothing but look at it. I called AHS and asked if I’m supposed to pay $150 for one service call. A man named Tyler told me that I shouldn't have to pay $75 two times when they only came out once. He also said I’ll get a refund, but I got nothing. When I called back, a lady named Karen said that there's no record that I’ll get a refund. I've been on the phone for about an hour and it's hard to find that out. American Home Shield should improve their customer relations and show me that they wouldn't do this just for me. Having someone to answer the phone quicker would help. They should also be straightforward and tell me if they’re not going to refund my money because $75 is not going to make or break me. If I shouldn’t have to copay twice then they should refund me the money and not give me the runaround. All in all, that last claim experience was not very good.

So, they found somebody that would come out and take a check on the service call, but it took three to four days to send a contractor and another week for the part to come in. However, they were courteous, and the technician was excellent.
Also, I've been with them for 10 years and in the beginning, it was a little difficult but it has gotten better. I had several claim experiences and one of the repairs was AC work and they didn't want to fix it. So, they offered us a buyout but the price was not good. I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield and back in June parts had to be ordered for my air conditioner and condenser. When the contractor came to fit it in I was told I was going to pay extra for Freon which was fine. It would have cost me about $400 out of my pocket but he asked if the Freon could be taken out of my air conditioner because it's still good. He said it could be done and it was good. He took it out and put it back into my unit. However about a week after the unit started making a rattling noise. As it continued it got worse and worse to the point I thought it was going to blow up outside. I called the people that worked on it and they said I have to call American Home Shield so I did.
The little girl that talked to me was very helpful. She got on the phone with her supervisor with me put on hold and came back and said that it was guaranteed. The problem was the way they had situated my air conditioning unit on my concrete slab. The copper wiring was vibrating against the copper. If that had continued it could have destroyed the copper so he got that fixed. And I noticed that the other night so I went out and just moved it slightly to make sure the pieces weren't on the concrete rattling, vibrating. Ever since I did that everything seems to be fine.
The only problem we had was when I called back on the second one for them to recall it. They tried to assign me to somebody that's four hours away. So I called back and asked why they would change the people that worked on my air conditioner who are 15 minutes away. The rep just put me on hold, put it as a recall with her supervisor and then everything was fine. So they need to learn to look at their location. I have to wait to get through them and then happened to stay on hold for quite a while before I get through again. Otherwise I'm fine. They usually take care of me.

And then finally, it just quit cooling. Submitting the claim wasn't too bad. We called AHS to check the refrigerator out for us. The service guy who came out was a local business man and he was fabulous. He found that the part needed was no longer available. So, he researched to see if an after-market part would work. It took us a bit but it wasn't the service guy's fault. He was able to fix the refrigerator and he's done a good job. We had a refrigerator in our boat house at the back of our home. Because the refrigerator has been repaired, we don’t have to walk down there to get food.

I used American Home Shield for my faucet leaks and heat tap problems. The heat tap started three days before they came and the faucet leak had started about a week before. I just can't get around to calling AHS. The contractors who AHS sent were good. I was very pleased and I have no problems with everything that they fixed. I'm happy that the people who came are qualified for the problems that I had. AHS is accommodating. They're a really good company.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was with the air track system. They work like an insurance company. You submit what the request is and all you pay is $100 or depending on which type of contract you have. So you don’t get charged more than whatever you signed up for. I do it on the internet and I get a follow-up call from the vendors who end up calling me and then scheduling. There have been occasions where the contractor did not know what they’re doing and that sometimes create an issue. Also, the contractors have a hard time getting in touch with American Home Shield. I end up calling them for the approval of the repairs and that sometimes take multiple hours and I'm just waiting to understand what the disposition is. But for the most part, It has been a positive experience.

I’ve been having problems with my AC for a couple of days now and so I called American Home Shield. It's very hot in Nevada and with your air conditioning getting worst, you don’t hesitate to call. Submitting a claim this time is very easy compared to a previous call where I had a lot of problems. The contractors they sent were excellent because they were on time within their window, courteous, and solved the problem very quickly. The booking of appointments is very easy and a painless way to do it. Usually, the follow up from the contractor is pretty quick. I don’t have any complaints. I've been a client for many, many years and usually very happy with them.

The performance of the pool pump has been good since the repair and our overall experience with AHS has been easy.

American Home Shield is responsive. It's in the 90s in Huntsville, Alabama and the air conditioner quit working one afternoon. I called AHS to submit a claim and they sent somebody out. The contractor was friendly, knowledgeable, and worked pretty fast. He checked out the system and the freon was okay but the capacitor had failed so he replaced that. I paid my $75 deductible and the rest was covered. The unit has been working really well until we came with another hot day. This time, we turned it off, waited all night, turned it on the next day and it worked.

My husband submitted a claim for an air conditioner. The contractor came and told us what was wrong with the unit and fixed it. At one time, American Home Shield was good about the people that they sent but we’ve had to tell them a couple of times not to send certain companies because their service is not good. I have thought about canceling my contract with them and going with somebody else because I’m paying them this money every month and then when I call, I’m being told I can’t get somebody here for a week or at least two days and then they send me somebody that can’t fix the problem right away. Also, stuff is covered but it’s not covered all the way and I've been paying them for years, so I’m kind of on the fence with them. They’re not worth the money.

I've been out of air for the past two weeks. The first guy, Christian, came out and he asked me nicely. The second time I called, the other guy came out late about 12 or 1 and I told him about the air that still wasn't cooling. It's so hot here. He was too late so I wanted to call somebody else. The guy, Tim, came out and he'd been working on the air and told me that they ran out of a part. I've been waiting for the past two or three days. He got to the warehouse and they told someone else that they got the part. He said that I don’t need to call AHS.
I called that morning and I didn't get anything. He told me he didn’t know what was going on and who picked the part. So I called American Home Shield again that morning and the guy by the name of Eric said they didn't sign anybody to the order because he still was going to order. I was told that maybe they must have signed someone else to the order because he didn’t know who picked up the part that's supposed to go to the air conditioner unit that will come and fit. It was going back and forth. They were trying to find out who came and got the part. He mentioned he didn't care what time it was but he's going to get the part. I called back and I got no answer.
American Home Shield had been doing their job. They worked nice and asked the guy to get someone to come out the next day. The problem came from the people that worked the air conditioner. I'd recommend AHS because they do step up when you ask them, then get someone in your home who had an air conditioner problem. They were good.

On August 23, 2017 I called AHS and had to wait 45 minutes to be connected to an agent. I reported that my A.C. wasn't working and it is unbearable in our Arizona home where the outside temp is 105. I explained that we have a geo thermal unit and in the past AHS would send techs that could not work on the unit and I wanted to avoid the same mistake. She took note and confirmed that she saw that had occurred in July of 2014 and it took 5 WEEKS to repair the unit due to totally MISHANDLING the case.
CURRENTLY they are doing the same, they called on the company that can't work on the unit and cancelled the service call. I called Aug 24 & 25 waited an hour to get to an agent and asked to speak with a supervisor since the rep was rude and defiant and clearly wasn't concerned with resolve. I was told it would be moved up to "escalation" and I would be contacted. NO ONE has called and the inside temp of our home is 92 degrees. It should be unlawful for a service company to collect fees and ABANDON customers, this isn't about being "inconvenienced" - it is unsafe. I would be very skeptical and ask yourself if it is acceptable to live in intolerable conditions because AHS operates on their time without any concern. I am unsure if I will stay with AHS. Still says PENDING ASSIGNMENT and I have been on hold for 35 minutes.

I have been a member of American Home Shield since my family and I moved into our home August 2015. Since then, we've called them twice for help with issues in our home. Our first problem was when 3 plugs in our kitchen went out. We requested a service and were sent an email stating that someone from an electrical company would be calling us to set up an appointment within 24 business hours. They gave us the electricians phone number. We waited 4 days before we called someone else, apparently outside their network. I called AHS back and told them we still hadn't heard from their electrician vendor and so we had to go with a different electrician.
The first lady I talked to was very rude and told me that they will not pay for any repairs being done by that electrical company because they weren't on the vendor list. I told her we'd been waiting for a call from their vendor and haven't heard a thing. She said I had 2 choices, I could pay the electrical work myself or I could request another service action and pay an additional $75 to have someone come out. I was dumbfounded. I asked her why I should have to pay again when the first service request is still open. They have yet to help me. She told me that was what she could do and if I didn't like it, I could pay for the service myself. We've been having American Electricians come out to our house to fix our problem and they are the best!
I finally called AHS back and asked to speak to a supervisor, and this lady told me they could cover the cost since none of their vendors would go out as far as I lived?!?! I asked her why I was just now being told this and she said she didn't know, it was in our notes 2 days after the electrician never called us. I told her I spoke to a different lady 4 days after and that lady never said a word about it. I have since had to have my home owners insurance take care of this for me. Our latest issue is our hot water heater. We put in a service request on Wednesday night (the 23rd of August) and still hadn't heard from the vendor we were told would be contacting us.
My husband just spoke to the plumber that we were given the phone number for. He told us that he informed AHS we lived too far out of his district on Thursday and they should have called us back with a different vendor. We have yet to hear from AHS. I've been on hold with AHS for the past 38 minutes as I write this review. I was told my expected wait time would be 15 minutes. We've already paid our $75 to request this service.
I really hope AHS comes through for this issue instead of making us wait like they did the last time. I've seen all the reviews where they've given great service but it must be for people who live in populated areas. We live in the mountains and I'm not sure AHS is the right home warranty company to handle our needs. They should look as bringing in vendors who CAN service small towns, or at the very least try to find a vendor who has no problem coming out to help their current clients regardless if they are in network or not. I feel like I've been the one doing the work that AHS should be doing. Otherwise, what am I paying for each year?

I called American Home Shield twice and had a really good customer experience with both claims. I filed the claims through their website and it was very easy. All the services I have under my contract were there, so I selected the area where I needed someone to come. In one of the occasions, I paid through the website but the other time, I had to pay in cash once the contractor arrived in my house. The first time, the contractor was able to come out quickly the next day, and he was knowledgeable and very nice. There was a problem with my garage door and it was fixed within a couple of hours on that same day. I haven't had a problem again since then. On the second time, there wasn't really a need for someone to come but I got a call immediately the same day, asking me for more specific questions about the issue. When I explained the issue, it wasn't under the contract, so I ended up calling a different person.

I always call AHS to submit a claim and their representatives are great. But when I call them, I'm on hold for at least 45 minutes to an hour every single time. Other than that, I love everything about them. The contractors sent are also great. I've only ever had one person in my house whom I didn’t like and I told them and they never sent him back again. Also, I can request a specific company I like and they will send that company. We had our air conditioning fixed last year and we had it replaced this year. AHS is going to pay for a portion of it. I tell everybody they should get AHS, especially when something is going on with their house.

I just signed up with American Home Shield in March. I had another warranty but I wanted something cheaper so I changed. I had my first claim in June when I called for my air conditioning because it stopped working. I got a hold of someone easily and she put in the claim for me. I was then called the next day and was told when the tech was going to come out for service. The technician who came was good. He checked outside and inside to make sure, and then told me what the problem was. He said he was going to repair the problem and did it in one day. The air conditioning has since been working excellent.

I called American Home Shield the day the air went out. There was almost an hour's wait on the phone, which was ridiculous, but their reps were friendly and knowledgeable. Then it took the contractor a week to come out and I even called back again too, but they said they were full and they couldn't get me on schedule. Myers came out today and he was really nice and got the air conditioner fixed. However, we have two units and he only checked one. We assumed the upstairs unit was fine, but my daughter said it became warm once they fixed the bottom unit. Now, I would have to pay another fee because both units were not checked.
AHS should improve getting to us in a timely manner or in at least a couple of days. I had another claim for the garbage disposal and the tech also came out after a week. I also have AHS with my other house and I never had a problem with techs coming out since they came out the next day. This was the first time I ever had this type of problem so I was shocked but I will still recommend American Home Shield.

It took the service company three times to diagnose my air conditioning issue and then American Home Shield was trying to charge me for the recall because they diagnosed it wrong. I still have my problem and has to call somebody to come back out. I've called American Home Shield to get this settled and they told me that they were going to reach out to the service company. However the service company is saying that I still owe them money. Dealing with American Home Shield reps is pretty nice. They really want to make sure that you're satisfied. However I felt like I was being told what I wanted to hear and nothing was done. So I don't think there was follow-through on what I was told. It also takes too long to get through to a representative. I'm on hold for an hour. I've had them for four years now and it didn't use to be like that.
Now, I'm not even prepared to call them and continue to dispute. I also called the service people. The first two calls seem easy to schedule with but the person who came out the first two times clearly didn't know what he was doing. He told me it was just the dirty air filter and to go buy new air filter on the second time. It would be fixed for a day but then the next day, I wouldn't have air conditioning again. My time was wasted because my problem wasn't fixed. Then the third time, somebody else came out from the same company. He stayed for two hours trying to diagnose the problem. Then he finally figured the problem out and repaired the unit. It took them two weeks to get my new compressor. I'm lucky that my compressor wasn't completely out because that's the second time my compressor broke. It took them three times and about two months to fix it. My unit should have been replaced. Two years ago my air conditioning unit started on fire. All AHS did was replace the capacitor. They wouldn't replace the unit.
I had mediocre air conditioning because otherwise, I would have been in middle of summer with no AC for two weeks. At that time, I was showing my house trying to sell it so I'd have to keep all my curtains closed and keep my house as cool as possible right before showing. It was just ridiculous. AHS is not always like that. However they change companies every summer. One contractor was amazing and took care of me. They always did their job and I never had problems. But the company that they're using right now for air conditioning, AHS had them the first year I had them but I didn't have a problem with the same company back then. AHS painfully does the job and they do what they said they're going to do.

I have two claims which aren’t resolved right now. I got a dishwasher with a motor that needs to be replaced and a refrigerator with a door that doesn’t close. American Home Shield mailed the parts of the refrigerator here and they're supposed to be come this week to fix it. I have no idea on the dishwasher. The same thing was repaired on the refrigerator a year ago and it's back. My dishwasher works but it's very noisy and sometimes you have to press the control pad a few times for it to start.
I initially filed my claims online but I made a mistake at first. I said it was both Whirlpool and they assigned it to a Whirlpool service company. Then I realized the next morning that my dishwasher was Kenmore. I called them so they assigned it to somebody else. That somebody else called and said that they don’t work on Kenmore and only work on Whirlpool. I ended up spending more than an hour on the phone holding on for a representative. Finally, I got somebody and told them my issues. They finally said that they will try to find me a company. That person ended up not being a Kenmore service company. So then they finally put Sears on it. Sears had two different technicians, one who worked on the dishwasher and another who worked on the refrigerator. So they sent them in two different trips.
As far as the dishwasher is concerned, the technician came in and listened to the sound. He told me what I need but also told me that none of the Sears technicians are going to touch the dishwasher because of the copper water pipe. If they touch them, they’ll leak all the time. The dishwasher is usable but it takes a few times of pressing it. The motor is extremely loud and the guy said it’s telling me that it's about to go. So the motor needs to be replaced.
The guy for the refrigerator was helpful too. I waited a week for the refrigerator guy. He came and realized what parts were needed. He ordered the parts and gave me an appointment after two weeks and he'll come back and replace it. My refrigerator works but the door stays open. No matter how many times I nudge it, it comes right off. Because of that, my food in the back is getting frozen and the food in the front is getting warmed.
American Home Shield used to be much better than it is now. This year has been the worst experience I've had. In average, I spend an hour waiting for someone. Even then, I don’t feel that the service is up to par. This is the reason I haven't had the chance to call them back because when Sears said that they wouldn't be able to touch this for the dishwasher, they assigned it to the same vendor. The second person doesn’t know why they sent it to him.
This summer, I had another request opened for a plumbing issue. The bathtub was choked up in my daughter’s bathroom. The water was accumulating a couple of inches if she was in the shower. At the same time, my son’s toilet gets clogged more often and it has gotten progressively worse. I needed to have someone come for my daughter’s bathroom and might as well have them look at the toilet also.
I opened up the request for two things. A guy came in and he said that my son’s toilet needs to be replaced but American Home Shield can't cover it because he dropped a foreign object in there. I said, “How is this possible he dropped a foreign object? It's been progressively worse. We've been here for eight years. My kids are extremely responsible with things.” Then he said, “Yeah. Well, your daughter’s bathroom, I need to snake it but I don’t have the right size tool. I have a bigger one and I need the smaller one for that, so I'll come back for it.”
American Home Shield called me and I said I'm not happy with this because this doesn’t make any sense. I said, “This is his own assessment without opening anything. He walked in without a tool in his hand. How did he know there's an object in there?” American Home Shield asked if I would like a second opinion. I said yes so they sent somebody else in. The second person said that there's nothing wrong with my son’s toilet. Nothing fell but we do need a new toilet. I have Kohler in this house and they got lifetime warranty. I should be able to get the toilet on my own through the warranty. Then American Home Shield will send the same person to replace it.
Then that guy for the bathtub said that it’s getting choked up because there's a wrong size pipe underneath it and the pitch is wrong. They had to go through the wall but it's a code issue, so American Home Shield can't cover it. It'll cost me $1,200 to replace the bathtub. A 16-year-old girl’s bathroom is going to get hair caught in there. It just seemed like one guy said, “This part won't be covered, but this will,” and another guy said, “Well, that will be covered but this won't.”
American Home Shield said they will send the first guy back for the tub. He came in literally with that one snake in his hand. He knew exactly where to go because he had been here before. He was up there for two minutes. He unscrewed the thing, put the snake through and pushed it in. It's been working fine since. I don’t know what that pitch and the whole code thing was about. I am extremely disappointed lately because I had not been more persistent. The guy would've broken my wall and I end up paying $1,200.
I wasn’t going to pay $1,200 just because I knew that it was just something that had gotten bad in the last month or so. But it just takes a lot of time and we're career people who are too busy. My husband and I were talking that it's just not worth of our time. It's easier to just pay somebody to come in and get it done because it seemed to linger on for two months now. If I end up spending four hours on doing something like this, I'd just lose a couple $100 of my time.
In the past, they had a two to three-day window. They would come and take care of it. This year, it's been a big disappointment on American Home Shield. I have three different systems for air conditioning and heating in my house. I called them because my upstairs unit is right outside my master bathroom and I could hear it whistling. It's always broken at the worst time. They sent somebody and said that nothing’s wrong with it. Then another time, it stopped working. So somebody came in saying the conductor was loose. He had to cut this wire off and do this and do that. He put a new conductor and it should work. Now, it completely ran out.
I called and said that this unit has been problematic. The house is 14 years old. We have three units and two of them are fine. This particular one was something that they replaced five years ago. It went bad again and they sent somebody in and said the compressor is gone. They will cover the compressor, but they no longer cover the Freon. So it's going to cost me $1,100 out of my pocket to put the Freon and they'll pay the $600. The equipment they put in last time was not a good quality. That’s why it went bad when my other two that are 14 years old are still working right. So I went ahead and replaced the full system on my own. I've been very disappointed.
More and more vendors do not want to accept their warranty. The ones that are, feels like American Home Shield is telling them to find reasons they shouldn’t be covered. It seems like that to me and maybe there's an incentive for them to do it.

We have two air units and our claims have always been over them. With our first claim, they were very quick to respond. One part of it was broken but it's an old unit so I was pushing for them to replace the whole thing so that we would be starting with a clean slate, but that didn't happen. They replaced something and it's working fine now. But my concern is we had to pay $1,500 to fix that and six months down the road, the unit is going to go out and by then it would be out of their covered period. Hopefully, if it goes out again, they will replace it at that point.
The second claim happened over a weekend, but I had to reach out to them that Monday afternoon because no one had called us. They came out two days later, but the good thing is the guys did come out. We also thought it was going to be something a lot worse, but it was a tiny fix for some kind of a clip and they were able to fix it so it was good. We also had a recent call a couple of weeks ago with the second unit and they were timely again. They came out and fixed everything. With these contractors, you never really know who you're going to get 'cause it's never the same company and everything’s always a little different, but we've been very pleased with them so far.

I got a response from the air conditioning company at around 9:00 AM. They were out in my house by 2:00 PM and the air conditioning was fixed by 3:00. The contractor was very polite and professional. While there were a couple of scraps left behind, it was no big deal and he made an effort cleaning it up. So far, the air conditioning is working perfectly fine. That was by far the best experience that I’ve had with American Home Shield and I have been absolutely 100% pleased with the turnaround and response time. I’ve had them for about 10 years and there have been times when I’ve actually gone with another contractor because of delayed response or the denying of the claim. Recently we submitted an air conditioning complaint with AHS and we had to wait a little bit. We submit our claims over the phone and most of the time the reps are good but occasionally we get someone who is not helpful. Also we've been happy with the contractors except for the contractor who serviced the dishwasher. It took about two weeks to get it fixed because he was in a hurry and did not do an adequate job of assessing what was wrong. But he was able to own up to the mistake and apologize. We were still two weeks without help but they tried to fix it and that’s always better. So far American Home Shield has been a service that we will continue for the time being and that we feel has been a good thing.

However, I called a week ago, was trying to speak with someone and I stayed on hold for my whole drive from work in Atlanta traffic all the way home, and still didn’t get anybody, so I just hung up. AHS has a lot of customers, so it’s hard to get a person on the phone and it’s a good problem for them to have but not so much for me. But I’d try again another time.

I've got someone from AHS coming in a few minutes to look at my refrigerator. They give me a lot of run around when I submitted a claim. All they do is come out and look at things three times and every time they come, they want $100. It's just terrible. Like with my air condition, it lasted about 30 days and went back out again, so I had to call them back. One came yesterday to look at it and the unit's working now. Their contractors were all right and very nice guys. But I wouldn't recommend them because people don't have $100 every time they come. And I still got a broken dishwasher. I'm going to have go out and buy my own dishwasher because I'm tired of dealing with American Home Shield.

We recently moved to Florida and my daughter is currently living with us, and all of her furnishings and belongings were in the garage. We started to have a leak from our furnace which was going into the garage and it was potentially damaging to her furniture, boxes, and everything else that was in there. It was a big problem for us and we ended up renting a U-Haul and moving a bunch of the stuff out of the garage and into a storage unit temporarily, just to keep the things from being damaged.
We submitted a claim for the repair of the leak with American Home Shield. The claims reps were friendly. The second person I spoke with was professional, but wasn’t able to help on the time frame. I was also on hold for 30 minutes when I called. The hold time is expected, but they should shorten it. I do not have time to sit on hold for half an hour and nobody does.
The contractor that came out was a nice, young man. He identified the problem right away and fixed it fairly quickly. I was happy with the service, but there has to be a way for them to identify issues that are more of an emergency. There was leaking right at that moment into the garage and we were also concerned that it would go as well into the house and start causing damage to the drywall. But both times I called AHS, I was essentially told there's no chance that they were going to get a contractor out here before Monday to do the repair. This was early in the day, not midnight, on Saturday. They should find a way to address weekend issues.

The modular burners on my kitchen stove burned out so I called American Home Shield. The people I talked to were okay and I had very little wait time, five minutes the most. However, the only issue was that the contractor was supposed to call me 30 minutes before they go because it’s a rental house. I wasn’t sure if the renter’s going to be there and I’m about 45 minutes away from the rental. They tried to call but either my phone wasn’t working right or was turned off and when I found out that they were already on the way, I called. I was on the road but I was going to be a little bit late and we had a discussion that he would wait for me to get there. I was upset about that and we argued a bit, but it was no big deal. We got it worked out and since the renter was there, the contractor went right in and got it started. He was excellent.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine as far as the work. Usually, if something breaks, they send technicians out who's pretty good and they fix it. I called them for my oven and they sent somebody. The one who came said the oven was old and couldn't be fixed so they had to check with American Home Shield. They couldn't find the part so they ordered me an oven. I didn't have my computer with me so they sent me pictures of what I could get and I told them to order me one. Somebody delivered the oven but they don't install so I hired somebody else to put it in. He said that since it’s a brand-new oven and that he wired it right, then something's wrong with it. The GE man came and he said the oven's fine but not wired correctly and he can't wire it because he wasn't certified so they had to get an electrician. In total, five different people came.
When I called about the bill, the lady I spoke to documented it and said I only owe $175 charge. I don't have to pay one for everybody who came so I asked why I still keep getting billed for them. She said it usually takes seven to 10 days for it to go off, but she can see that I only owe $175, and I have paid that. Now, I got another bill for the GE people. The first one was for SNS Appliance. When I call, I have to sit on the phone 30 minutes to an hour, depending on what time I call, and that's a hassle. The only problem I have is trying to get this straight but other than that, I've been satisfied.

Absolutely Terrible!!! The wait is always long and when you finally get through the technician typically seems to be following a script so they have no idea how to help you. Today after waiting to get through for over 30 minutes I was on line with the young lady for 53 minutes. She put me on hold at least seven times and then was hung up on. I called back again, had to wait to get through and asked to speak to a supervisor and it appears that they do everything they can to keep you from speaking to a supervisor. As I was on the phone with the tech she was apparently communicating with the supervisor, but the supervisor could not speak to me. I am now waiting for a supervisor to contact me. This company is making it very difficult for me to keep my business with AHS.

I've never had any problems with American Home Shield. They always do what needs to be done. Recently, water was coming from the shower. I submitted the claim online and the process was pretty easy. They sent a plumber out. He called and came on-time, but then he discovered that it may be a slab leak so he said he's going to have to transfer it over to leak detection. It just went blank after that. I called them back yesterday and they said they found a guy with the equipment but I haven't heard from whoever that person is supposed to be.

We had an issue with our air conditioning unit and we dealt with American Home Shield. We followed all of their policies and procedures, put a call in, and then we had the company call us back. AHS was fine but we had major issues with Total Air Care who kept sending out multiple technicians and cannot resolve the problem. We went five and a half weeks without air conditioning. It was all of July and part of August. We would wait for the technician, they were there for hours and we had to rearrange our schedule multiple times for them to come. It was a major headache.
I called AHS and our customer service rep, Tracy, was very attentive and kept in touch, as well as Caroline and Cindy who were the other two people that I spoke with. They were all accessible and able to try to expedite somebody coming out. Unfortunately, it was the service people who were not qualified to fix the problem. They said we could have a second opinion and we had someone from United AirCare come out. They diagnosed the problem in 15 minutes. Then five days later, they had the correct part. Since the repair, it's fine and we're very happy. We paid our $75 service fee and we also paid $400 for the Freon piece because of the part that wasn't covered. AHS covered all the expenses and we never paid another penny after that. It was a huge inconvenience but AHS tried their best to resolve the issue. It was a little out of their hands. And overall, they were polite, professional, and courteous.

Three weeks ago, I had problems with the air conditioner. American Home Shield came out and fixed it. Then I had my house for sale and the worst thing that could happen is being across from the person at the closing table when the air conditioner goes out and that’s exactly what happened. It was fine the day we did the walkthrough but when they went into the home after we closed, it was not working. My realtor called me and said that when the buyers moved their things in, there was no air conditioning. I said I just had it fixed.
I called American Home Shield because the buyers didn’t take over the policy yet. It was still in my name until the end of the August. I explained that the problem that was fixed maybe wasn’t the main problem so I got them to come back out and fix it. The first time the contractors came out, it was fine. It took about 48 hours for them come out, which is always very difficult here in Florida with air conditioning but once they got here, they were absolutely wonderful.
I called American Home Shield and told them to no longer take the address on my account and gave the information for the buyer to go ahead and take over the contract. Then I contacted my realtor and said that if they want American Home Shield without waiting 30 days, they need to go do it. I had American Home Shield for six months and I would rate them very good. I would definitely have American Home Shield again if I owned a home. If my stove went off, it’s no big deal but it's tough when it's an air conditioner and it's 100 degrees. I would definitely always have it. It gives me the peace of mind that everyone should have.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been very efficient and I haven’t had any problems. I’m glad I have the service. This way, I don’t have to deal with people who don’t have a business or contractors. I can deal with a legitimate company. If there’s any type of problem, I have some type of recourse. On my recent issue, I had to do a recall for my AC unit. The technician who came was okay. Once he left, he thought the issues have been resolved. But right after that, I started having the same problems again. So, they’re supposed to come back out again. They gave me a window from 10 to 4 so, I’m waiting for someone to come out.
There have been no issues with the contractor or any type of problem as far as anyone having an attitude. This is my first incident where I have to recall. It’s a good service. A friend of mine has had it for over 20 years and they’ve had it transferred from wherever they’re at. They always have it in so, it came highly recommended to me. Sometimes, you’re reluctant about paying that monthly fee every month and you know that there may not be the issues but at least you have that peace of mind.

We just bought the house a few months ago. We got home Saturday before the 4th of July and came home after being out. That was 79 degrees in the house, something was not right. So I called American Home Shield for the AC unit and a guy came out on July the 3rd. The morning of the 3rd. I reported back to AHS that the control board has failed. Mostly rust, corroded and AHS denied it. I went back to AHS that Friday for a second opinion, a different contractor came out. Compared to these guys, the first contractor was more organized and professional yet my claim was denied. But with the second contractor, my claim eventually got approved and they got the AC replaced. It's in working order now and I like the end result.
The contractor, Tradewinds, was a little strange to deal with. The guy was supposed to come on Friday 5:30 and then I got a call, ended up being there at 11:00 o'clock on Saturday morning. We weren't supposed to be charged the service fee, yet we were. The guy put two pounds of refrigerant in it, he was talking R-22 and then he's loading it up with 407A and then charged me a total of $215. And then he still gets cash for it. He said he's writing a check to the company, which was a little sketchy. That guy hot wired the control boards, it was running. That's on Saturday morning. And then Saturday night, the fan started making noise, it was banging up so bad. I went to check them down because I didn't want electrical fire down there.
It was recommended that the unit be replaced because it was so ancient, everything was worn out. AHS called me to tell me that the replacement was approved and that the equipment would be available on Friday for the contractor to pick up. We should have it installed some time in a window between the following Monday and Wednesday. I ended up chasing the contractor to try to schedule it. I kept getting the runaround. It was really unprofessional. I finally ended up getting the things scheduled. That's supposed to be on Friday but they didn't show up till 8:30 at night. They worked for three hours and then they said that they’ll be back on Sunday.
So they showed back at 8:15 Sunday morning and worked up to 4:00 in the afternoon and got the thing going. I realized that I didn't get any paperwork that time. A work order, receipt, warranty papers or any owner's manual on in it. So I called the guy back the next day and asked for something to document the date that it's actually installed, things for my record. They said they’ll get that for me and I haven't heard from them. Anyway, all-in-all, I like the outcome with the second contractor but it was far from being a well-oiled machine. There were too many things about it that were sketchy. It was not a speedy process and it definitely took tenacity. But I understand that's the way it is with most home mortgage companies. Nonetheless, the people that I spoke with were terrific. They’re very helpful and very cooperative.

The freezer of my refrigerator was not working recently, but it was very difficult for me to reach American Home Shield to submit a claim on the phone. I waited on hold for an hour, then when I called back it was another 45 minutes. I have issues with trying to get communication to them and from them, and I don’t like the communication between AHS and me as a consumer. Anytime you ever have to call AHS to speak to a human being, you have to jump through hoops. It's horrible to try to get in touch and talk with a customer service person at AHS. Sometimes I get through quickly, but for the most part I'm on the phone for more than 20 minutes before I ever speak to a person and I'm actually on the phone for 45 minutes or longer.
They want you to make your appointments and claims online, but I needed to make sure that they were not sending out a certain contractor. I also can't file a complaint with AHS online and all I can do online is set up the service call. The AHS reps said that the volume of their phone calls is high. But if their phone volume is high and their wait time is 45 minutes to an hour, then they need to hire more people, or they can make their website more user-friendly so consumers can flag and put in comments that they do not want some company at their house again, because their website automatically kicks such information out in the computer.
At one time, I was on the phone for two and a half hours trying to call AHS about a contractor that showed up drunk and two and a half hours late, and then stole from us. But the AHS reps acted like they couldn't care less. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but the reps said that they needed to handle this issue because it was holding up other people. I had been on hold for 55 minutes, but I still couldn’t talk to a supervisor because the supervisors were busy. I could have called the police, but I didn’t. Luckily, my husband was home.
I've had issues with some contractors that they've sent out to me and there are three bad contractors that are not allowed to come back in my house. But the rest of the contractors have been great. More than 75% of the time, the contractors have been fine. AHS usually sends Appliance One and they're awesome, wonderful and really good. The contractor that AHS sent out recently for the repair of our refrigerator was good, too, and we had a great experience with them. What AHS does is generate and bid out the jobs to the contractors, whereas it would be more streamlined if they would send the same contractor out to your property.
When I made my recent appointment with a contractor for the repair of my refrigerator, they made me pay over the phone. But I’ve never done the payment that way because I’m used to writing a check for the service fee to the contractor and giving this to them. I told the contractor that I have not gotten a notification that the payment process has changed. The contractor said that they’ve been doing it that way for a month, but I had two contractors out to my house in the last three weeks and I wrote a check to both of them.
I called and then emailed the person who manages the electrical part of our contract, but I never got a response. When I finally got in touch with someone at AHS, I said that I needed an electrician to come because I had two, separate electrical problems. My central vacuum system had a problem with the electrical switch and I had a light fixture that was not working. But they did not send out an electrician. When I called about this issue, the reps said they were going to send out House of Vacuums. I told them that House of Vacuums can work on the problem with the central vacuum system, but they won't be able to fix the problem with my light fixture, but they said that this company will be able to do that. But then I got a phone call from an employee of House of Vacuums the next morning, saying that he has a contract and there’s a light fixture on it that he couldn’t fix.
So I called AHS back and again that took an hour, and when I asked to speak with a supervisor, the reps said that they will try to help me. I told them that House of Vacuums can't fix the light fixture, and since I'm already paying the service fee for the House of Vacuums, then I wouldn't be paying anymore for the electrician that they'll be sending out to my house, and we agreed on this. They’ve already got an order for an electrician and they've got the job tagged to another contractor, so I can't go in and use another one.
I asked the rep what kind of company they would send out and she said that all their contractors are bonded and insured. So, I told her that the contractor they sent last night stole from me. I asked her, "How would I know if the contractor is credible?" But it turned out that this company had already been to my house previously and they were reputable and good. Other than the issues raised, I'm 90% pleased with the whole process. For the most part, we're very pleased with the company and the contractors. Prior to the stealing, I was highly satisfied with my experience wit AHS, but not so much since that happened.

Everything has been fine with my American Home Shield experience, except for the last claim which has been the only big one I've had. We had a washing machine go out and I was not pleased that they would not replace it with a like model. They said they would replace it with a unit that had the same features as mine. But it was a different model and a different physical size, and it would not fit in the hallway where it had to go. A door comes in from the garage and there's only so much space between the wall and where the garage door starts. The washer they wanted to give me was going to stick out to where the walk through door wouldn't open. It would've hit the washing machine, so it was impossible for it to sit there. I had to get one that was physically a little smaller so I got the same type model as the Kenmore that I had. And since they wouldn’t match it with a like Ken, I had to pay the $165 difference in the price.
I was told it’s their policy and that’s what it's going to be. I sent them a letter protesting that. It was a nice letter, I was not rude to them, but I explained my feelings. I said, “I always thought that you would replace a product with a like product.” They said, “Your definition of a like product and our definition of a like product is different.” As long as I had my account with them and they keep raising the monthly cost of it, I wasn’t real pleased with that. But that’s the only time that I have not been satisfied with what they did. They’ve been pleasant and no one has been rude. Their contractors have also been fine. Other than that one issue, I've only had a few other issues over the years, which were just repair stuff. I've always received very timely service. The people they sent out were qualified A plus type vendors who took care of the problem and were very polite. I'd recommend them to a friend.

After filing a service request for an AC outage and explaining that there is an infant in the house, they said they would escalate the issue and someone would come out in 24 hours. Their vendor called and they said the first available is not until 3 days later. Vendor also stated that they never escalated the issue. Be ready for a 30-45 minute wait when you call into their phone line. After escalating to a manager for their mistake, they state that they can only get someone out there tomorrow, and it's now been 3 days with no ac in Florida.
Their vendors that they use push you behind any normal paying customers. Still waiting for a next level manager call back to file a complaint with the company that will take another 24 hours, but after talking to the last manager, they really didn't seem to care that they screwed up and would not provide an acceptable resolution. Would highly recommend not to use this company as I could have just called an ac company directly and got better service and less hassle. I've been paying American Home Shield for years and on multiple houses and spent hundreds of dollars on their plans. When I needed them, they failed me and the family that rents our home.

I purchased AHS when I sold my house and the lady who I bought the house from purchased one that was a little more expensive that covered the heating and air. I have a deck above the garage and the first thing I called them for was a leaking into the garage. They said they had a plumber come out. Now, there are other drains that drain out besides the one that is leaking. And the plumber said that they used a toilet flange and the bottom seal part of that had been leaking. It blew my mind when they won’t pick it up because the guy said it wasn’t installed properly. AHS is what I thought would offer a little security when buying a house. This house is 47 years old and I also have my other homeowners insurance.
I’m very, very disappointed and I was completely floored. They’ll fix the ceiling where the guy had to go in to check it out. At first, I thought they didn’t cover it because it’s like a roof deck above the garage. It’s also not leaking bad and it almost seems like the seal on it needs to be sealed up. But what was really odd is, the same plumbing company that they used came out the following week for another issue. I’ve done a major renovation and I need to have the plumbing switched over to a more current because I was having the one bathroom tiled. So I called them up and I like the guy that came out. I said, “Well yeah, if you could just let me know what you guys would charge to fix this leak or how are you going to remedy it and how much is it going to cost.” But they never got back to me.
So when they came out for the other issue, they thought they were repairing it and I said, “Well, no. You guys never got back to me to tell me what you plan on doing to fix it.” So, this guy came out with the supervisor and the guy must be fairly new. I told the guy that they never got back to me and it was switched out to the plumbing. I kept calling so many times and I got to know the girls on the phone well. She said to switch out the faucet would be anywhere from $150 to $200. And I said that it was reasonable. And my contractor even told me, he would do it but he said, “God, a sole job for that, that’s reasonable. So yeah, go ahead and have them do it because I’m pretty busy.” So when he got up there, then they wanted $400.
I asked, “What happened to the maximum $200?” “Oh well. You must’ve been confused. This is what we charge.” And then the foreman guys said at that time said, “Well, it might not be so much that they used the wrong thing up there.” It could be that I’d be better off just calling a roofer. I haven’t even moved in yet and the garbage disposal went out. It was leaking bad, so I called the 1800 number and they said “No. It’s 12 years old.” So then, I called AHS back. He took the garbage disposal out immediately. He had that thing changed and he was gone within 20 minutes. It was excellent and great. But I was asking the girl if they’ve updated the home and have all new appliances and have a warranty on those issues, they didn’t even check to see.
I can have a 50-year-old dishwasher as my grandmother did that went on and on and on. It seems ridiculous that they wouldn’t put something on it like the age of an appliance compared to just overall, generalized work that wasn’t done right. AHS is a big company and I don’t understand how they could get away with it or did the agents just offer it because the homebuyers feel secure having that home warranty? Good luck. And the girl said, “Well if you wanted, you can get a second opinion.” But then, I have to pay another $75 to get a second opinion. If it’s the case, it seems absurd. Things are going to happen but when I’ve owned a home for 23 years and I never had one of those in my house.
I had lots of things happen that I had to pay for and my dad was saying that those things are useless. I told him that the buyers wanted it when I sold my house and it was already put here when I bought the house. But mine was $450 and this one was $600. So I felt like saying to them to give me the $600 back and I can put it towards my repair. But at least they did get the garbage disposal out of it so it would be $300 by the time I get a new one and get it installed. I feel better about it but I still have a little tarp over my leak and I haven’t dealt with it yet. They can explain it to me a little bit better because I don’t know how they could even sell them under that condition because that would be a red flag for anyone.
I also had an inspector come out. But even inspectors were $450 for me to have my house inspected, on top of another $1000 or $600. And they can’t guarantee things that are on the wall. They can’t get in there and look. They can just write up a report. Also, they don’t get up on your roof but they get up as high as they can, while I had my ceilings, all the popcorn stuff taken off and they found two leaks. So, it was only $180 but I’m thrilled that they found them because it could’ve turned into something much worse. And I even asked them about the roof. And he said, “Oh, it looks fine. You can probably get at least another 10 years”. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t pay an inspector. What I might do is hire an HVAC guy, heat and air, and then a roofer because those are the things that really end up costing the most money. Especially if you do have new appliances because I am going to have the warranty.
I’m going to call in a roofer because I can tell that they did a lot of work on this deck as far as water proofing. And I was going to even go to the expense of putting some type of decking material on this deck but you also have to do it in a way where the water drains. The only thing is, calling and getting through was a nightmare. The one time, I was on hold over an hour. In addition, when I called the plumbing company, she suggested that I call back and say, “Could you please expedite this?” Because they weren’t going to be able to come out until a week. So she suggested it to me and I would’ve never thought about doing that. So then, I called back. Then they call the plumbing company back and say, “Okay, you have our okay.” And then they make it a top priority.
But they’re not going to make you a top priority especially if they’re busy. The other person, as far as the plumber for the garbage disposal, it was a different company and they are not as busy or got added on to their list to something. Nevertheless, I had planned on calling both realtors because I want to know what they know. They don’t blindly sell it. But, I also learned and the whole thing’s a learning experience.

We had two different claims a week apart and the techs were here to take care of both of them. In both cases an old central air conditioning failed and I was extremely disappointed that after paying American Home Shield all these years, their idea of placing an air conditioner does not include $800 worth of just normal installation job. I don’t know how you replace an air conditioning core without connecting to the ductwork. So we ended up paying the techs about almost $1700 out of pocket for the two systems. One of them was $890 and the other was $830.
Also, it takes a couple of days for AHS to say what they're going to do and then a couple of days to let the techs know. So we ended up being hot for two weeks and spent $200 out of pocket. Everything the contractor did was great and they were easy to work with. They explained that these are the things that they have to do and AHS makes them list them and they get to decide what form it wants, so I can't complain to them about the $800. AHS gets to decide what is normal installation and what's not and what brand they're going to replace with, and that’s exactly what the contract says.
I'm not sure I'm going to renew because I have my kitchen appliances covered and when AHS chose to replace my air conditioner with the cheapest brand available, not with an equivalent frame, I am thinking if my KitchenAid wall oven and microwave fails, are they going to replace it with a KitchenAid or with the cheapest thing they can find? It’s going to be a big problem if I pay all this money every year and I have to have a new microwave or oven and they’d go all the time.

My air conditioner went out and American Home Shield sent out a repairman from a local AC place to look at it. He deemed that the condenser was going out and then they denied the claim saying that the condenser was damaged due to a power surge. However, this air conditioner is on a duplex. There's another air conditioning unit sitting right beside it and nothing else has been damaged, inside or outside the house. Now, I'm going to collect the information from the heating and air conditioning place because they're the ones who wrote that the damage was due to a power surge.
Every time I try to contact American Home Shield, I'm on the phone on hold for 45 minutes to an hour. It doesn’t matter what time of the year, there's always an extremely high call volume and it's ridiculous. I've got to sit down and plan to take two hours out of my day to make a phone call, and then they act like they don’t even want to talk to me. Their customer service is terrible. They should hire some more operators then.
I also had one claim about a year ago with a water heater that went out and AHS replaced the water heater for a certain amount of money. But I was going to have to pay almost the same amount of money, about $1200, because they said that they would have to run other water pipes and vents to max the hot water heater. I asked them why don't they just put a water heater in the same size so they don't have to do all that and they said that's not what they do. So I ended up just getting them to pay me what they would pay me, which were pennies on the dollar, and having to get it done myself. American Home Shield is doing their best to rip people off.

I have some plumbing issues and I called AHS. The contractor was able to fix a couple other things. Everything is fine except he had to order some parts and I have not heard back from the company again. And when I called because my AC broke down it took almost two hours before I was able to talk to a representative. The interaction was fine but the waiting time before you talk to a representative is always long. It’s never less than 30 minutes.
When I had my commode fixed I called the contractor because AHS usually sends me a text or email of the assigned contractor. I scheduled the appointment and the guy they sent, Joe, was on time and he did a good job. He was not able to fix the commode properly so I called him and he came back the next day, early in the morning. They have to do something so customers are able talk to their customer representative quickly and they also need to have a better range of contractors because some of their contractors are not efficient.

The air handler was leaking and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. When the contractor came out, I showed them what was going on and it was pretty obvious so he got ready to work. I also asked him about the other unit but he said that he couldn't check the other unit for Freon because AHS had called him in specifically for that unit and that was fine. He fixed what I called about and it's now back to normal. The claims process was efficient and really good, so I appreciate it.

AHS has a very easy process to get through for submitting claims, and the reps are always really polite and get the job done. All the contractors have been very professional and have taken care of the job. They also call in advance to let me know that they're on their way and give me a heads up again when they're 20 minutes out.
For my most recent claim, the contractor came and looked at our refrigerator. He tried to repair it and saw it wasn’t repairable, so AHS bought us another one out. However, it was the refrigerator that Oprah gave us when she came to town and we were a part of Oprah's Favorite Things show. They could not replace it identically and although they did give me an equivalent one, it didn’t have a TV. It wasn’t as good, but I settled. Other than that we're pretty much satisfied on everything. When I've had other situations, where I was thinking about moving somewhere else, they made sure they took care of me, so I can stay. But they're really good and I've had a great experience all the way around. We like American Home Shield a lot.

Everything has been the way they said it was, but this last time was an issue for me because my AC went out and coming back from vacation, I called American Home Shield. I got the email saying who the case was assigned to, who the repair people would be and that they will be out or someone will contact me within 24 hours. On the day someone was supposed to come out from that company, someone called hours before and said they were overbooked. The technician couldn’t get to me that day and they had to reschedule going into the weekend, which was more of an inconvenience to me. The contractor said there was nothing they could do, so I called American Home Shield and expressed my concerns.
Overbooking happens, but that should never be communicated to the customer when they're expecting someone to come out on that day. I ended up calling the corporate office to get someone out sooner and I got someone out of the network as an exception. Everything went well after that point, but getting there was a little bumpy. When someone got there, I was informed to ask American Home Shield because they were dealing with me and the contractor to keep me in the loop. They did that and everything was handled okay. Everything was the best, but they should be careful with the language they use with the customers. Overall, they did all right, so it's a good experience.

The most recent service I had American Home Shield do was for my air conditioner. Submitting the claim online was very easy. I originally wanted to do it over the phone, but the wait time was going to be 30 minutes to speak with someone. I placed two requests online and I wanted to cancel one and it takes so long to get someone on the phone. Doing it online worked out well. But it would be nice to be able to talk to someone if I had to. I was kind of nosy and I stayed around. I wanted to watch what the contractor was doing and he was okay with it. And he explained to me what he was doing as he was working and he got the air conditioner working again.

My downstairs air conditioning was freezing up so I had to call American Home Shield. It was the first and only problem I've had to call them for and it was an extremely easy process. Everything was paid online and their website was also really easy to navigate and get to. The technician came out and charged up my ac. But I would like to be able to choose who my provider would be. I had it charged on my own two months prior and I could’ve gotten my guy back out there and done the exact same things. But it seemed that I needed to start the process. I've recommended American Home Shield to two people.

My wife and I have used American Home Shield for approximately 6 years for multiple homes. They performed in a marginally acceptable manner with the exception of Air Conditioning. When it comes to all items they strive to remedy the problem with the minimum of cost which makes sense. After having multiple air conditioning calls for service over the last few years we again had a problem this year. The contractor "Eastern Air" came to and fixed a coolant leak followed by a recharge of coolant at the cost of close to 500 dollars with the coolant charge of just under 400 dollars. Within three weeks the ac was again broken. Our ac at this point was around 20 years old and needed to be replaced. When the tech returned from Eastern Air I was informed the ac would need to be replaced. This would result in a new ac unit (approximately $2500). I was ok with this given the age of the ac unit.
In the case of replacement AHS would max at $1500 and we would need to commit to approx $1000 minus the coolant warranty from the first visit. The following day I was informed by an AHS rep my out of pocket would approx $525, which made sense to me. I called Eastern Air to pay that amount and schedule an appointment to install the new unit. Eastern Air informed me my out of pocket was not $525 but $2500 due to a number of repair line items. I questioned this but received no answers. I again called AHS. The rep agreed that this was quite high but informed me that the contractor had reported the problem as a repair not a replacement. I again questioned that if it was a repair wouldn't they have to cover my max of $1500 for this service.
I was then informed that these were not "repair" items but "modifications" which were not covered (isn't that convenient - the contract mentions only "repair or replace" items). The rep agreed to document the incident assuring me she would have her supervisor call me within 4 hours. So here I sit, no call back, writing a complaint to no one. Luckily we have some lawyers in the family. I will not tolerate these type of people who do not live up to the contracts we sign or shroud them in bs. STOP STEALING you THIEVES. I'll hound them until they do the right thing and honor their commitments.

The vendor states they sent request to AHS that morning. I ask both companies who is going to follow up to resolve this problem. Both AHS and the vendor said they've done all they could. Since July, every week, I've had somebody out to my house. I've had ARS heating twice now and then the Air Design came out once. My air conditioner went out on a Saturday. They called on Monday, but they didn't come out until Thursday, the following week. The problem was that the air conditioner keeps cutting off. They said the water fills up and it cuts off. So, they pumped the water out and the air conditioning would work until it filled back up again, then they'd come back out. They did this for about three weeks. I finally got an independent contractor on my own. He said that the fan was not working properly to cool off the coils, so the coils got heated up, which bursts the tray, causing the water to leak over and then shutting it off. I ended up paying him $1,000 or more to fix it.
I kept telling American Home Shield that whatever is wrong with my air conditioning, they were just coming here to put a band-aid on it. They're not fixing the actual problem because they shouldn't have to come out here every week. If they would have found the problem and fixed it, then I wouldn't have to pay that big bill, but they didn't. According to the last person I talked to, I can get it fixed by an independent contractor and send them the bill, and they would pay their part of the bill, all but the Freon. AHS had been good for two years. They came out and did what they needed to do. But this year, I had problems. Overall, the experience with them was very disappointing this year.

It was absolutely ridiculous and that was the biggest problem that I had with them. Another thing was that there was a mistake because certain things aren’t covered in terms of when I have to pay a service call and AHS had that incorrect with me. They're in the process of looking into the issue and refunding me. But the contractor they sent was fine and everything works fine now.

My recent request for service from American Home Shield was a problem from the beginning. AHS hired a new contractor for electrical and it has been a nightmare for me. The contractor came over to assess the work need and promised to submit the information to AHS the next day. After several calls to the contractor I began calling the customer service for AHS. I have called them 10 times in the last month and a half and have received various levels of poor service. Every time I call, AHS calls the contractor and gives them 48 hours to respond. (They've done this 7 times now).
They have transferred my case to 'contractor relations' and yet again they are giving the contractor 48 hours to respond. I've asked twice to speak to a supervisor and was told one was available and they didn't know when they would return. I've asked twice for a callback but have never received one. I've been told numerous times that there are no options for me other than to keep giving this contractor '48 hours' to respond. I have no options to have my issue resolved and a useless warranty. Very unhappy with AHS and would NOT recommend them at all.

Service to Air Conditioner. Saturday, July 22, 2017 The air conditioning was not working, a malfunction error come on the screen at our home. My husband called HSA/American Home Shield to have it serviced. Monday, July, 24, 2017 Air Pro Heating & Cooling came out at 1:45 pm. Looked at our air conditioning and identified that the compressor was out and need replaced. However, he noted on the document that the home warranty company needed to send out a Carrier Infinity Dealer. I paid $75.00 for his visit. Called the HSA/American Home Shield and told them what the provider indicated. That I needed a Carrier Infinity Dealer. Customer Service identified that they would have to hear from them directly in order to move forward with another provider. If they could not provide anyone to me within 24 hours, I can then go with my own provider.
I received a call from another provider. We were reviewing details on my issue and where I was located. He then stated, “Do you have the Carrier Infinity System?” I stated, yes. Provider, “I told the Home Warranty Company, I am not a certified dealer.” I asked, if he could follow up with HSA/American Home Shield, so I could have another provider. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 I received a voicemail for Komfy Kozy about coming out to service my air conditioning unit. I called, back. Asked, if they were able to service my Carrier Infinity unit. They said, not a problem. We scheduled an appointment for Wednesday, July 26th. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 Komfy Kozy identified the same issue at Air Pro Heating & Cooling. We needed a new compressor and Freon. He told me that it would be 5-10 days for the compressor to come in. I paid, another $75.00 for his visit.
Thursday, July 27, 2017 Received a call from a supervisor from American Home Shield. He asked, if I have had service provider out. I confirmed Komfy Kozy came out and I paid another $75.00. He said, I should have had to pay and he would correct that issue. Friday, July 28, 2017 Komfy Kozy called to inform me that the compressor had arrived and scheduled a time to come out on Monday, July 31st. Monday, July 31, 2017 Komfy Kozy came to replace the compressor and Freon. Four and half hours later, the work was finished. As we were wrapping and I was writing him a check for his service ($500), we started to talk about the service. He was shocked that the first provider (Air Pro Heating & Cooling) did not accept the work. I said, “They were not a certified Carrier Infinity Dealer.” He said, “I am not. But I was able to find directions on how to install the product.”
I then asked, “You are not a certified dealer?” He said, no. I then asked, how long am I covered for his services. He mentioned 7 days from him and 30 days under HSA/American Home Shield. I had to sign for everything via his electronic device. I never received a receipt for his services and I can no longer sign in to my HSA account, since HSA was bought out by American Home Shield. Friday, August 4, 2017 When we returned home from being at work and noticed the house was hot and the air conditioning unit was not working. We called HSA/American Home Shield to start a new claim. Komfy Kozy was scheduled to come back out on Saturday and I was given the window that he would be there between 10:00am -12:00pm on Saturday.
I did ask Customer Service that I wanted to speak to a Supervisor and was told that could take up to 48 business hours to hear back from a supervisor as there are never any supervisors available to speak to. Saturday, August 5, 2017 I called HSA/American Home Shield – I had to endure being on hold for 40 minutes to then be disconnected maybe a total of 3-4 times (2 ½ hours before I was able to speak to someone selecting the option existing claim). I was calling to one, report that Komfy Kozy was not here, when I was told they would be, and two, to have a Carrier Infinity Dealer look at my unit. And check the work that had be done. Once I was connected with the Customer Service Representative got on the call. If my call is recorded. You will hear my begging to send out a Carrier Infinity provider to check the work that he has done.
The Representative told me, they had to send out Komfy Kozy to look at it, but they would see if could find a Carrier Infinity provider. I asked, if they could see in my notes, that my request for a supervisor was there to call me. She confirmed, it was. Monday, August 7, 2017 Komfy Kozy came back to install another compressor. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 No call was received by a supervisor. 8:30 pm My husband received a call from our neighbor indicating there was a lot of smoke outside our house. He asked, if we were home. My husband responded, no, but should be within a 1-2 minutes. My husband meet my neighbor in the back of the house at the air conditioner unit. Our neighbor pulled the outside breaker. My husband called me to inform me, what had just occurred. I called HSA/American Home Shield to report the fire. No supervisor was available to take my call, but a message would be passed along.
Wednesday, August 9, 2017 4:15 pm A supervisor from HSA finally called me. She could care less about what occurred and how my family was impacted. I asked her several questions about my account that she had to follow up with me about. As of today, August 23, 2017, and I have yet to hear back from her. My am very upset. Not only did I beg the representative to send out a Carrier Infinity provider to check the work of Komfy Kozy – what if this all happened, when we were sleeping? The air conditioner unit is beside my son’s room, who is 5 years old. My family was endangered by the service provided by Komfy Kozy and American Home Shield for not providing the correct service provider. We have two small children in my home. My son is now so frighten by fireworks and thunder. He has been completely traumatized by this situation.
Now, that I have gone through this process. I now see Heating & Cooling companies with the Carrier Provider on their trucks. American Home Shield has no interest in my family and our current situation. It is impossible to get a solution, with not being able to speak to supervisors who are there to support their customers’ needs. I refuse to waste my time to maybe get a call back from a supervisor. We are not trying to take advantage of the service we have. We were simply trying to get the proper service for our air conditioner. We elected to keep our home warranty and pay a monthly fee for extra protection. When we were customers of HSA, we were never placed on hold or were disconnected after being on hold for over 40 minutes. The service was sent out the very next day, 7 days a week. I doubt we would be in this situation.

My air conditioner went out in the middle of the summer. AHS' representatives were great. When I called them, they answered the phone right away, set up an appointment with the contractor and then sent me a follow up email to let me know when the appointment time was. Everything was done right away and they followed up with me on a regular basis. I called on a Friday and that Tuesday, the contractors were out and looked at the air conditioner.
The contractor was good but the only problem I had was the amount they charged for refilling the Freon. My system has 410A which is the newer Freon that they used and as a consumer, I can go to Amazon and get a 25-pound tank of that for $190. That's less than $10 a pound but they won't use the tanks that I had already. I talked to the contractor about it and he told me that they don’t even get the 410A for what I got it for, but it's not like it's a different kind because I had the same brand that they were using. I understand that they don’t know where it came from, but the reality is that theirs was way overpriced.
So, I got charged $75 a pound and it was $500 for nine pounds. That's in addition to what American Home Shield charged us, which was $10 a pound. It's crazy that the contractor was charging the same for 410A as R-22, which has gone up in price and is very expensive. On the other hand, American Home Shield themselves explained to me that the Freon was on the upcharge. The contractor also had to order the compressor. Initially, they said it would take up to two weeks but they were back within a week and that was amazing because it was the middle of the summer. The contractor replaced my compressor so the air conditioner works great now.

I have several experiences with American Home Shield and my biggest plight is the wait on trying to call them. You have to wait 35 to 45 minutes to get them to answer the phone. I have a rental house and I have the policy on it and I have a four-year-old washing machine. And so, it broke and the maintenance guy who I've used for years that they worked through on different stuff said that it would be better to replace the washing machine because he thought I was working on one problem after another. AHS was great with that but they're only giving me $548 to replace it and I don’t feel like it is enough to replace it for the quality that I bought. I just got it yesterday and it took a long time because they failed to communicate with me.
And finally, I called my service guy and asked why my washing machine is being fixed. And he said, “Well, they told us that they were going to call you and say you have the option to either replace it or to fix it and this is what they were going to give you.” They haven’t called and it's been a month so I got on the phone and called. And the girl picked up within five minutes which was a miracle. But then she transferred me to another department and I was on the phone for 45 minutes waiting. It's a little aggravating.
Also, I have requested that they not use a particular air conditioner company because they screwed me. And sometimes they’ll pop up. So, I have to call AHS and tell them, “I don’t want to use them. Please recommend somebody else.” And then, AHS is going to fix the air conditioner again. The air conditioner is 27 years old. And I just didn’t want to keep having to do that. I ended up using the company they recommended and the guy ended up charging me about $1000. It was really kind of messed up and I didn’t want to fix my air conditioner anymore. And AHS did.

My girlfriend, Julie, had a garage door issue and when the tech came out, he said it needed a new sensor and everything went smoothly. However, she also has a $10,000 built-in refrigerator that stopped working and she had to wait until she could get on Sears’ schedule days. American Home Shield sent Sears out for the diagnostics and they said they have ten days to research the part. We had to add another 5 days, but the part is discontinued and not available anywhere. They were going to look into refurbishing the part and the technician was going to take a week to arrive. Plus, it would take another six weeks if they decided they will refurbish. I've been on the phone for three hours and they said to call back in two hours for an answer.
When I called back, I had to wait on hold for another hour and a half and I was told they haven’t gotten to it yet. Julie is on the phone for hours every time she calls. She has been on hold for up to two hours and finally had to hang up because she had a meeting. The whole time is unbelievable and she’s talked to appliance people that she had to drop dealing with them, because even the Sears guy said it’s hard to get in touch with AHS. She’s been patient, considering she’s been living without a refrigerator for about a month. They were going to offer her a payout amount and she was willing to accept as long as it was fair. On Friday, they said they’ll work up the offer and get it to her, but they never did.
One Monday morning, Julie called and someone picked up the phone within five minutes. She wasn’t transferred around, but they wanted to go through this whole thing with another company. It should have been fine if they've done that from the beginning, but they had lapsed and wasted all their time for the contract. They wanted to send someone back out and when I called after 24 hours, we were canceled in the system, and then the Hays technician was three hours away. Overall, American Home Shield’s customer service is in the toilet and our experience has been terrible. Apparently, realtors buy a lot of these policies for homeowners to make them feel safer and have a little peace of mind going in. They act like it's a big deal and from what I saw so far, it's worthless.

My air conditioning went out and American Home Shield was able to get me somebody out the same day to look at the AC. I first set up an appointment online and then I spoke with a couple of representatives to get a technician out there the same day. The contractors worked on it and the next day they finished up with another part. It has been good ever since. I got a pregnant wife who is due in about ten days and American Home Shield understood the urgency to get air conditioning and made everything possible to get a technician out to come look at it.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my doorbell through a representative, and it was great. However, the electrician they first sent me was not good. They came to my house, took my doorbell down and their rep told me that he was going to come back. He canceled two appointments without even calling me, so I called him but he did the same thing. I called American Home Shield and told them "I'm not dealing with the electrician's company anymore. Send me someone else." So, they sent another and they were good.

My house was new and I was surprised that the AC unit went out. I've been with American Home Shield for about six years and this was first time that I used them. The claims representative was prompt and everything was clear. They connected me with a contractor right away. The contractor was good. They were in and out, and the AC has been working great. I'd recommend American Home Shield to everyone.

My air condition was making a noise. I called American Home Shiel and they sent a mechanical out who told me it was the fan and they will have to check with AHS. We had to go to Auburn which is about three hours from Madison where we live and when I got back, the air conditioning was not doing anything. I told American Home Shield and they told me that the mechanical was not accepting any more calls and they would send another vendor.
So another one came out and said that the problem was not the fan. It was the compressor. The contractor said he would call again and let me know what AHS say ‘cause he seemed to know what he’s talking about. Then I got a call from American Home Shield and told me that the call from the second vendor was a second opinion. But that’s not what I was told when I called to find out what was going on. I was surprised that it caused big problems ‘cause in April we had to have a trick or treat replaced and I paid $600 for freon at that time. So now, they would tell me I had to pay for freon again and it was $50. So I said fine and I told them to fix it.
I appreciate American Home Shield that they replaced the compressor but having to buy that freon again that quickly was a little impossible. I was hoping they might have done something better with the price on that. The finished product was great. It’s working and it’s not making a noise. But I should’ve been given a little more of a price breakdown. I’m a real estate agent and when I sell a home, I always pay the buyer a fee for a home warranty which has always been American Home Shield and they’d never let me down. But this time, a few months apart and having to pay that again bothers me. But other than that, I’m satisfied with American Home Shield and they helped me out once again.

When I had a plumbing issue, I submitted a claim on the phone with American Home Shield and the process was easy. It's generally pleasant as well when speaking with the representatives. The service was for the home being rented out and the contractors who came were easy to work with as far as redirecting them to talk with the tenant to make the arrangements. They had to come back and when they did, it was in a reasonable time. They fixed the problem and the tenants were happy with the service.

I’ve been a member of American Home Shield for four years and never had used them. One of my air-conditioning units wasn’t cool so I went online to make a claim and they sent a person from one of their contractors, BestWay Mechanical, out to look. They said, “Okay. You need a new coil, you need some kind of switch, and then like six pounds of refrigerant.” And they said that AHS will pay for the coil, but I have to pay for everything else. It’s 800 some dollars but I agree, and they said they can be back in two to three days. But I never heard anything back for about a week and a half so then I tried to contact the contractor several times. I left phone messages and emails to the business and this went on for almost a month. And so I get on American Home Shield's website, call their number, and also get on the website to do the Chat Now.
The Chat Now took me 27 minutes to get somebody on there so I got it before I got to talk to anybody on the telephone. While I’m talking to them, saying, “Hey, I’ve not heard anything from these people. They won’t return my calls or anything,” they tried to contact the company twice but never hear anything also. A couple of days later I still haven’t heard anything back, so I went ahead and got a new contractor and had the thing replaced. Georgia in the middle of the summer is not the place to be without air-conditioning. BestWay called the day after I had somebody else come out to fix it. Then I tried to send stuff to American Home Shield but I couldn’t get in touch with anybody from them. I’m very dissatisfied with AHS. One of my friends went through the same thing with AHS over their air-conditioning and also ended up paying somebody else to come out and fix it.

I had a plumbing problem which I had to file a claim for with American Home Shield. I submitted it online and it went fine. I got a good response back from service within a couple of hours. It was for my rental property so the technicians actually talked to my tenant. The only issue is that the part that they needed, it took about a week for him to come back. There was once before that didn't go so well with the air conditioning company. It’s in my rental property and they ended up putting the fan on backward. I had to call another company to come out there. But overall, I've been quite happy with American Home Shield.

Our air conditioner was messed up on Saturday, so we went online, entered the order, and we got the confirmation numbers. It was very hard to get anybody to answer the phone at American Home Shield. They dispatched a repair service that called and made an appointment twice, but they were no shows both times. The people from Piedmont Mechanical called on a Monday to make a delivery appointment the next day. It's 90 degrees in Atlanta so if it gets too hot we could go to a hotel. This was a piece of machinery that can be fixed and not a big deal.
But the worst part was, the guy that made this appointment to come at 3:00 o'clock called at 6:30 to say that no one was there yet and to ask if they could leave and go to McDonald's first. Meanwhile, I was getting hits on my phone saying, "Your technician has completed the task. Rate how he did." That was like rubbing salt in the wound. I just had to laugh even though I wasn’t happy with that experience.
Since those guys didn’t show up, I called AHS to ask when they could grant me permission to go outside of their service network and pick up the Yellow Pages and call. I had checked around with some local air conditioning and heating places and we got a guy who could be there that afternoon, but it's going to be X amount of dollars and I was already paying to be part of that deal. I got a hold of another person from AHS who sent me some instructions that I had to follow.
But everybody that I contacted in the Yellow Pages in Atlanta said that if they send their technician out to us, they’re going to send us the bill, and we’re going to pay. None of those places that I called wanted their technician’s hands tied by this home warranty that we’ve got. It was frustrating, so that’s why I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend American Home Shield, even to my worst enemy. The fellow that came out took care of the problem after about a week of dealing with that.
Another claim that we had was for our ice maker. That all went just as smooth as pie and that was a good experience. Then we had a gas stove malfunction. We called in and they promptly came out. It took a week to get the part needed but they fixed it. The people on the phone are just entering something in the template and getting feedback information. You would be better off just telling people to go ahead and do it online, and not even offer an 800 number. Also, being put on hold for 40 minutes with the same little jingle jangle song that repeats itself can be irritating. I would not want to jeopardize my friendship or relationship with someone to refer American Home Shield because you’ve got to have thick skin to deal with them sometimes. Overall, my experience with them is poor. It's a pain in the rear end and it's an inconvenience, like a flat tire. But this shall pass.

Reported our air conditioner leaking summer last year (2016). Service came out to level the air handler, paid $500 for our part of the service. Temperature got cooler so no leak. Summer 2017 the air handler started leaking again as temperatures rose. Took two weeks to get someone on-site. The vendor said the service call had been cancelled. Not by us I assure you. Finally got a technician onsite... vented the work the other service provider was suppose to manage and that we had to pay out-of-pocket over and above what AHS would cover.
Air handler still leaking, called service provider... no response. Called AHS, they contacted service provider, a week later got a voice message from the technician. Called back, left a message, called back again when I didn't get a call. Talked to someone and scheduled and appointment. Appointment time came and went... no show, no call. Called AHS next day, waited 55 minutes on hold to report the situation again. Colossal runaround! AHS will only work with the vendor they originally dispatched. So here we go again... Poor customer service from AHS and poor service from the heating and cooling business (because they don't consider us a true customer). My advise, don't waste your money on a home warranty, especially with American Home Shield. Just save the $$ you would throw away on a home warranty in an emergency maintenance account and save yourself the headache.

I filed a claim over the phone and had a good interaction with the rep, but I initially got connected with a plumbing company. The plumbing company then called us and told us that we need an AC person. I tried to call American Home Shield back and I was on wait so I hung up at an hour and 40 minutes. It was like that again for my wife. I had to call the plumbing company that called me and asked them to get in contact with AHS. The rep called me back after five minutes and said they got it set up and I will have an AC guy. Also, we got charged twice by mistake but that was taken care of. Other than that, it was a great experience. The contractors were good and the air conditioner has since been perfect.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield (AHS) for more than 15 years and this one instance I was provided extremely poor service. After my pool had pumped over 15,000 gallons of water due to a cracked volute the Service Contractor needed the pool to be filled before they would conduct any repairs. The pool was refilled and the contractor was notified and advised it would be four days before they could show up. (What happens when a pool doesn't circulate for four days - turns green). They determined that the volute was cracked due to pool chemistry (what?) and the plate seal was leaking due to stop switch being removed. They informed AHS of their findings who then denied the repairs. The contractor gave an estimate of over $1100 for repairs (actual cost of repairs just over $600).
After maintaining the pool from its installation in 1996, I'm disappointed to hear a contractor implied that the customer (me) did not maintain the pool properly. To crack the volute due to pool chemistry the water would have to be SO corrosive that the entire pool plumbing would have dissolved. (Contractors first misleading statement). Implying intent to cause damage to MY pool by stating... "the stop switch being removed" was the reason for the plate seal and motor overheating (Contractors second misleading statement). The plate seal leaking and motor over heating was due to the volute cracking and something that should have been cover by the service contract.
After speaking with two individuals at two different levels at AHS and pointing out the inconsistencies in the contractors diagnosis they said that "they were bond to the diagnosis of the contractor and that repairs were denied." AHS has done good by me from the beginning but this one instance along with what I would call a less than reputable contractor has now cost me 15,000 gallons of water, volute, main pool pump, a thorough pool cleaning and three weeks of down time from the pool.
AHS should have asked the customer if a second opinion was necessary or recognized the bad diagnosis and got a second opinion themselves but most of all stood by the customer and tried every means to repair those items needing repair/replacement. Their homepage asks the question: What is a home warranty? A home warranty is a service contract that covers the repair or replacement of important home system components and appliances that break down over time. A home warranty can help save you money. In this instance they failed miserable.

I had a bad experience with American Home Shield. They have been trying to help me but the contractors working for them were extremely awful. I needed an air conditioning service and there is an air conditioning company that I’ve worked with in Madison, Alabama. The two units I have are American Standard, the one unit was not running and the other one upstairs was dead. The air conditioning has a fan and everything is connected for it to work. The gentlemen came, very cordial and nice. I brought him into my house upstairs, he proceeded to go into the little unit, unscrewed it, then he unscrewed this other little panel that had wires connecting to these other adjacents that looked like a little fuse box. What he did was to cut the wires and hook wires together. He told me that he had to get the fan to work.
He proceeded to go into one of the bedroom and had this little remote control heat sensor. He placed it to the vent section and took a reading of the heat which is at 95 degrees. He tried hooking things together and got the fan hooked on. The fan should be able to shut on and off but now it’s running 24/7, I know he did something wrong. The fan is going to burn out the motor. I don't need to pay extra $100 dollars every month for my electrical bill, that's one downfall. That unit should have been taken cared of otherwise I’ll ask for a work order and send it to home warranty. If they approve it, they get materials, fix it in the house. But what happened was they first got my money.
I went through all this crap and this mechanical service company hadn't helped me. Those people need to be shut down because the guy should have never cut any wires unless he had what he needed to hook it back up correctly. I called their company and asked if they have the work order but there wasn’t. They promised to call me back on Friday but I did not receive any. The lady doesn’t even know what is going on. I called Home Shield and told them about my situation. I told them I had this air conditioning company that was supposed to fix my unit. They needed a part that was to go through AHS and they are going to come back and fix the unit. I even called Home Shield network and they didn’t do anything either. I called again and the lady I spoke with was awesome. I talked to her and she's going to look into it. I’m still not getting feedback from anybody and the air conditioning company still hasn’t helped me.
I also had a problem with the electrician and he fixed partial of what I needed to be done. I need this home warranty and I paid a whole year in advance. I paid for the pool and extra money each time I called facilities to fix my home. It’s $125 each time they come no matter what. I paid $250 and I still have things that aren’t working. I want something resolved because if the air conditioning goes down, I was looking online from American Standard platinum which is $3,999. That's just to buy the unit and not to have it installed. It’s really frustrating because you got to pay for the unit and if you need repairs. I’m avoiding all these big expenses. I want to keep things in a nice way so the next person won’t have troubles.

I have been having problems getting my water heater replaced for the past week. When my husband first filed a claim on a Sunday night, they sent a company that was scheduled to come by the house at 12:45 on Monday. The plumber did not show up until almost 6pm. Both my husband and I took a half day to be there for the appointment. We did not hear back from the plumbing company and American Home Shield. I asked my husband to call to find out that they do not cover modifications and that we need to pay $610 out of pocket to bring it up to code. I called and spoke with authorization dept where I was notified by an associate that we can only cash out. We then contacted another reputable company with a 5 star rating and we were advised that we do not need the modifications that the home warranty sent out.
I contacted home warranty and notified them of the findings and was told that we have to work with the company they sent or cash out. I called again on Saturday asking for the cash out amount and was told that the department handling that is closed and was behind, that I should hear from them by Monday or Tuesday. On Tuesday someone left a voice message letting us know that the cash out value is less than $270 to replace and install a water heater. I then called and was on hold for 50 minutes. When someone finally picked up, they hung up the phone without speaking to me. Again, I called and was on hold for 45 minutes. I spoke with a Kim from the authorization department and I explained to her everything that has been going on. It seems like they do not read the notes they have in file when you speak with them because she kept on asking me the same questions.
I requested for a second opinion and for a second company to come out to my property to replace our water heater. The lady told me that we cannot request for a different company to work on our water heater and that the only other option was to take the cash out value and pay for a company we choose out of pocket. To replace a water heater, install an expansion tank and cost of installation is over $1400. The lady did not want to listen to me and I asked for a manager. She then told me that she is in the escalation department and that they handle these kind of calls and that they do not have managers.
I told my husband that I've had it and refused to speak with this woman. My husband asked for a supervisor and she then proceeded to tell my husband that she is the manager and the supervisor. My husband told Kim "the manager/supervisor" that he can't continue to speak with her any longer because she was not listening and refuses to help us. Apparently we hired American Home Shield Warranty to lie to us and disregard any of our complaints. I've told 3 associates since Friday that I am very unhappy of their service and will not be renewing our contract and make sure not to refer anymore business to them. We do not appreciate being lied to.

I could understand their side of it. Overall, I have no problem with them. I've been with them since they started at $48 and now it's up to $68. I submitted a claim for my AC to AHS and usually, an AHS representative that I know helps me expedite things. She’s excellent and she makes thing better for me. This is a bad time of the year for air conditioning around Georgia because they're breaking right and left but since the repair, mine's working okay. It's old and it's been patched down and patched down. I'm hoping that every time I have a little problem, they come out and patch it and if I get into having any freon leakage, I will just replace it myself and not pay for that and I won't have American Home Shield anymore. Some of the contractors they send are good but some are not so polite. I didn’t expect them to be the most polished of people who do that work, but anybody can be polite.
I've had this policy for years and I've never gotten much. I've maintained my house so nicely but my house is 16 years old and I've had very few claims that were very big. I've never had a single year where I've made my premium. Also, AHS provides for roadside companies and they need to put that whole policy on the brochures rather than telling people to go online and read it. I'd like to be able to provide it because my company has been with AHS and we did have that basic policy during the listing period. I want people to know what they're really getting and what it covers because it gets disappointing when you find out, “Oh, no you don’t get this, you don’t get that.” So, this information would be good on those brochures that AHS uses for realtors. AHS needs to put the various policies and see what the ins and outs of it are.

When I called American Home Shield the first time, the automated system picked up and I was shown the options. I had no choice and they were busy so I could never get through. The automated system was excellent though. It sets you up and the only thing is I can’t tell it that I have multiple units and when the company comes out or when they call to make an appointment, I'd tell them and they'd say I got to call back and let them know that there’s more than one unit. I'd have to call early in the morning because if I don’t, I'd have to manipulate the system by hitting “status” and when I get status, they’ll send me somebody. One of those days, I waited for 15 to 20 minutes to get through.
When the technicians came out for my other property, they were outstanding. The first company, Ayers, was the first claim I had. They came out and they were professional and interested in what I was trying to tell them about what was going on. They jumped right on it and they explained a couple of things to me like what was taking place. One was low in Freon and maybe the wires were getting little a bit shaky and they did the wires which I didn’t even realize. They were willing to do whatever I ask them.
Stockbridge was my last claim that they came out for and that guy knows his stuff. He was older, very professional, offered me some suggestions, was honest with me and he fixed the problem. He had to come back out because it’s being cut off but that was because there was some water in the attic and the flow was cut off. I had two good experiences with him and those last two were really good. It made the 20-minute wait worth it.
I won’t have anybody else. When it’s hot, people want things done on time but I’m a different type of guy. It takes effort, at least, but at the end of the day, I just like people to come out that’d be willing to listen to me or try to create situations when it doesn't really have to be and I didn’t have that problem with AHS. I know some are complaining about other types of stuff but when I get a rep on the phone, they’re always nice and willing to listen to me. I get the best from them no matter who I talk to. They’ve been trained well. Some better than others, no doubt but that doesn’t mean that the others are not qualified. No matter what my problems might be, they’re going to try to address and deal with it. I have also referred them over the years.

My AC unit constantly runs my electricity bills so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Something is not right with the AC and my bill should not be $400. I stand underneath the vent but I don’t feel any cool air coming out. It was 89 degrees last night until 2:00 AM and I’m trying to get it 76 or 77, but it won’t reach. I had somebody clean the air vent and change the filter every month but it didn’t help.
The problem has been going on for two or three years now and we have somebody come out two or three times every year. I tried to schedule them after 12:00 so they see how hot it is. But every time an AC man comes out, he says there's nothing wrong with our unit and it won't get to 75 degrees. It will just keep running until it tries to cool it down but it doesn’t make any sense to me. Other people have theirs down to 74 but he says we need a bigger unit. It just gets worse every summer.
We also had a situation with our refrigerator. When we bought the house, there was a 26 year old refrigerator but we had to put duct tape in the refrigerator seal. So, I called American Home Shield and it took five days to send somebody out. The guy said the refrigerator is 26 years old and even if we find the parts for it, the seal has been broken. So, it's compromised and it will never work properly. They sent him here to fix the refrigerator instead of replacing it. They wanted me to wait another week for the parts, living out of the cooler when I have two small kids and my milk was going bad. Also, the parts cost more than what the refrigerator was worth. I'm not happy with it and we are going to cancel. They're awful and I'm not the only one. A lot of people are complaining about that.

We file our claims with AHS over the phone and we wait hours. Several times my husband has hung up because the waiting period dragged on and on and on. We’re very dissatisfied with that. Also, we filed a claim for our air conditioning to AHS and it has been for three years and it has had the same problem each year. It had a leak and apparently, the leak has not been repaired. For three consecutive years, three different companies and what they have done was add more freon.
Last year, the contractors indicated that they had fixed something but my husband later found out that all they did was just cut the wire and it was not connected. We had two different air conditioning companies come out and with the first one, our unit was just almost out of warranty. When they called, a recording played, "If this is a new claim it will be $75 and we can commit to an agent at this time to help you." This company thought we were still under warranty so they didn't go that route.
That's how we finally got someone through the American Home Shield, pay another $75 and have someone come out. That may be their policy all the time. This year, we went up and paid for all appliances and everything to be under the warranty too. We did get help and do have air conditioning now so I don't want to jinx anything. I don't know if we will re-up next year, though. The age of our house and everything that we've got is getting to the point that they need to be replaced. I don't know if we'd ever get to that point with them and if anything would ever be replaced or not. It just felt though, it's a different company each time. Eventually, we got help but contacting them is a headache. The same people never come out, so if you have a problem then, it's like you're starting all over again.

The guy who AHS sent for my air conditioning issue was efficient and he was able to fix the problem. I had to wait for about four days for this, which was good because at that time they were backlogged. Everyone was backlogged at the time. Most air-conditioners were breaking down and the guy who came did the job for 20 minutes. I’ve used AHS for the past two years and every time I had issues, they came quickly and fixed them. If I’m not satisfied, I call them back and they say that they’ll put a follow-up, call the technician, and make sure it’s working efficiently, which is so far, so good. I’m happy with AHS. They’re efficient and they mean what they say and say what they mean. They’re a legit company to me.
