I filed a claim with AHS because I had to get something done with my air conditioner. I really liked the contractor who came for my AC. They were very knowledgeable with what they're doing. The AC was up and running and that was the best part of all the whole situation I went through. The process was complicated only because of the companies that American Home Shield deals with were not really reliable. Also, everything was fine with their representatives. The one that made me uncomfortable was the person that I had to speak with when I cancelled. He said, "You can't come back anymore. You have to start this all over again." It was not necessary to do all that talk to me because I'm a customer. That's when I completely said that I'll never come back with American Home Shield.
AHS should think of change and verify backgrounds of people that they do business with because it’s not only me. When you look at the references of some people, the attitudes are bad and the services might not be good. They have to look on one to the next just to see if they do the work correctly. With AHS, you should always get a second choice, look at the ratings and verify the experiences with other people you know.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for them to fix a leaking pipe for the air conditioner. I like being able to set it up online. However, I have to put in my credit card number and the payment comes out, but a lot of times the contractor is not aware of that. I constantly need to make sure and let them know I've already set it up online, but it's not a big deal. Their customer service is great and I got the email immediately. Then I got a call from the contractor over the weekend to confirm. He was very timely and great. So far, the air conditioner has been working perfectly. My experience with American Home Shield has been excellent and I have recommended them.
Gloria,
Thank you for being a valued customer and making us aware of your overall customer experience. We are glad to know at American Home Shield you received exceptional service and appreciate our business. Thank you!

I needed a plumbing repair. I received excellent service from the plumbing contractor that was provided to us by AHS. The process of making the initial call to this very moment was absolutely painless and effortless on my part, even remarking to my wife and neighbors how very much I appreciated it. The contractors were not local. The local plumbers are very high-priced and don't afford themselves a very good reputation. I feared that I would be in contact with one of the local people that I would not want to do work in my home. And instead, it was someone I didn’t know from a neighboring town. They replaced some old damaged pipes with new ones. It was done so quickly and there were no issues at all. It was absolutely wonderful. Everything was expeditious, very professional and it did save us money. I would highly recommend their services.

I spoke with an AHS social media rep Kima, on 9/25 & reached a very satisfactory resolution. The co pay that was billed in error was removed from my account, she gave me a credit for a future co pay (should the need arise), she explained the measures that AHS is taking to ensure that the company is hiring & training more reps to reduce customer wait times when calling for assistance, & in general, all around ensured that I was happy with the resolution. Im impressed with the time and results of Kima personally working with me for a resolution, & has restored my faith in AHS.

I had a claim with my air conditioner not working so I was told that I would be contacted by a local company within 24 hours. I finally got in contact with a company that they were coming out to take a look at the problem and get it resolved. I let them know that it was on a workday so I would not be home but my daughter who was over 18 would be there. I told them exactly what the issue was. They acted like they understood it completely. The technician who came out was there less than two to three minutes. He did not go down to my basement where the unit is. He went outside, looked at the outside unit for a second, said that it looked fine, came in, told my daughter to just put the temperature down and it would start cooling off. There didn't seem to be any issue and he wanted a $100 copay.
So my daughter gave it to him. I was on the phone right as he was leaving so I told my daughter to make him stop because nothing had been resolved. He left. I tried calling the company. It was closed because it was a Saturday. One can’t get through to American Home Shield unless they're willing to wait at least an hour on the phone because that’s the wait time. It’s really ridiculous. I don't know how many attempts I did before I finally got in touch with someone. I explained everything that happened. They told me that they would send that company out again. I said I didn’t want that technician in my house because he did nothing and knew nothing.
No one contacted me so I again went through all that effort to make contact with American Home Shield, all to learn that they gave my problem to another company because the company that had come out when I said that I didn’t want that technician back at my house is the head technician so they didn’t have anybody else to send. So American Home Shield contacted another company and sent them out. That company came out with the clear understanding that I was not paying another copay. The technician assessed the problem and within five minutes he found out what the problem was. He corrected it and within less than 30 minutes he was on his way.
I spent another hour on the phone with American Home Shield the first time I got an invoice and I explained the whole thing. The rep said it was an error on their part that it was sent out. She told me to disregard it. So since then, I have been getting e-mails and invoices with a delinquent bill for the $100 copay for the second company that came out to the point where I’m ready to cancel my contract with American Home Shield. They are not a good company. They’re horrible.
Ms. Voyton,
American Home Shield strives to fix the problem the first time. It doesn't sound like we accomplished that on your recent a/c work order. We are delighted to hear that you now have an a/c that is working properly. We will be contacting you soon to correct the billing issue, as we don't want you to have to call in and hold again to discuss the situation. We are going to take care of you!

My most recent claims experience was for the washing machine. The repair guy didn’t explain a whole lot but dealing with Home Shield was great. The claims rep helped me with all my questions since I was new to them. She was very good, nice and friendly. At first, the repair guy thought he was going to have to bring somebody else in and that he wasn’t going to be able to do the job himself. Then he decided that he could. Eventually, he decided that we needed a pipe from where the city is and then where it came into the house. That helped but he didn’t explain much while he was working. We had to spend $3,000 to get a pipe brought in and replaced from the city into the house, and that was the one part that Home Shield didn’t cover. But the washing machine is working good now with better water pressure. It still takes a long time but that’s just the way the product is. Overall AHS was very helpful.
Patricia,
Although there was an out of pocket expense involved, we are glad to the know the repairs made by the company resolved your issue. American Home Shield sets high standards for quality service with our contractors and we are happy to know all was helpful for you. We appreciate your time in sharing your experience!

We’ve had American Home Shield for about a month now and when we had a problem with the toilet, I went online and filed a claim. Their website was easy to use. The plumber then called and set up the appointment. He came out within 24 hours and fixed the problem. It went very smoothly. We also had a refrigerator issue initially and it was the same thing. The technician got back to us at that same day. He needed a part, came back the next day and fixed it. My AHS warranty has worked great and I appreciate having it.
Kelly,
Thank you for sharing an expected experience given from our service providers! Making sure your appliance needs and service are taken care of professionally is very important to us. We appreciate being your Shield at American Home Shield!

I filed a claim with American Home Shield over the phone for my washing machine. I'm old-fashioned and I like to talk to a person and not a machine but don't like the wait time when I'm trying to call in. I've started submitting online because it's a lot faster and setting up an appointment online is cool because it is easy. AHS sent a contractor and I tried to explain to them that they needed to order the control panel, which is the LED screen that was cracked. But they ordered the cover to the control screen, which is a big plastic piece. I told them that that wasn't where the crack was and it's not on the exterior plastic part but in the actual LED screen. I had to wait five weeks for that to all transpire until they got the right part. They didn't listen to me the first time but they were fine as far as the personality.
One of the things with American Home Shield is that I don't feel like that I should have to pay the $75 if the guy comes out and he says that there's nothing wrong with my appliances. If there is something wrong then I'd feel more justified in paying the $75 fee. I get that American Home Shield is trying to run a business but I feel that's a little bit unfair because I already pay a monthly premium.

We had one air conditioner that was running but not putting out cold air and the other one had a bad filter. American Home Shield fixed it both at once but they overcharged us and we were supposed to be getting a refund. I filed a claim online and it was very easy. The technician was very knowledgeable and helpful. He knew what he was doing and fixed everything. The only negative is that he had no idea how to charge us based on the home warranty thing. Also, he was late about 30 to 45 minutes and I called because my husband had to go to work. They told me that the technician had to get back to the company store to get some parts that's why he was running late. But he cleaned up after himself.

Once they arrived, she explained the problem to the plumber. It was a great visit and they handled the problem in a short amount of time. Everything is working out fine right now and we haven't had any problems.

The reps were professional and courteous when I called to submit a claim, and the process was easy. My son dealt with the contractors and he was able to tell me exactly what happened. If a 16-year-old can tell me everything that went on, then the contractors did pretty well. Later we had something else that went wrong with the dryer, but they came out and fixed it and it's been great since then. Overall it pays to have American Home Shield.

We had an issue with our air conditioner so we submitted a claim for it online. AHS got back to us pretty quickly but the contractor that came out had a questionable behavior. He was very quirky, kept telling me things that didn’t make sense and not explaining it in a way I could understand. I was really glad I wasn’t in my house alone as it was not a comfortable experience. The company that initially came out was wanting to do a lot more stuff even though they fixed the initial problem. They started telling us that if we didn’t do what they're saying, our home warranty won’t be covered.
So I called American Home Shield to tell them about our experience and they were very slow to respond. I have spent in excess of 30 minutes on hold before I got to talk to anyone, and several times I had to hang up. But when I finally connected with the gentleman by the name of Darrel, he asked me lots of questions and talked me through everything that happened with our initial experience. He recommended that we get a second opinion. I agreed with him and told him that we will stick by whatever the second opinion is. If they say it needs more work, then it needs more work. If it doesn’t, then we’re done. So, I was very happy that they made that recommendation and overall, I felt protected with American Home Shield.
Sheryl,

My air condition unit went out and I submitted the claim online. The representatives got back with me. Their contractor was absolutely wonderful and they need to always keep him. He was right on time, knew what was wrong, got the air up, and took care of it. He called me after American Home Shield got in touch with him. He explained everything to me on what he was doing and how he was going fix it. It was working fine since I got it fixed.
However, previously from this incident, I had called for my garage door. The person they sent out didn’t know what he was doing. I called back and said that the guy didn’t fix the problem. Then they sent him back out again. He didn’t fix it the first time, what do I think he’s going to do the second time? Then they said, “We can’t send anyone else out.” The second time they sent him out, he still didn’t fix the problem. I said, “Look. Don’t send him back out to my home anymore.”
So, they finally sent someone out and said, “Hey. What this guy did was nothing. He didn’t do anything. He took a screw loose, put it back, that’s all he did. You need a new garage door opener.” This time, I really shouldn’t have paid for the service because the girl that I talked to was supposed to give me my deductible back, but it wasn't in the system so I had to pay another deductible. I had problems with American Home Shield and I'm not very pleased with them. They take my money but then they don’t give me the service.

We had a dryer problem so we called American Home Shield and they arranged to have ProTech people to come. The ProTech came and did a couple of things, but when they left we still had the problem so we called them back. They told us that they need another part and have to order it. We went back and forth for three weeks and they kept saying they were going to come back but they never did. They were rude, incompetent, and kept making promises that they had no intention of keeping. Then every time I called Home Shield I got to wait in line and wait until I finally get through, and then they go through it. They finally realized that repair people were not going to come back and repair our dryer so they arranged for a Sears repairman to come out, which he did.
The Sears technician knew what he was doing and he fixed the dryer. But the same time, our washer was not working properly and we asked him to take a look at it. He determined that it needed a part and it was old so it would not be replaced. We needed to get a new washer. Now, everything seems to be working fine as we got a new washer and the dryer is fixed. We had to pay the two service fees with just $275, which is appropriate because one time was a washer, the dryer the next, then the washer after that.
American Home Shield would make it better if they were more careful with their subcontractors that come and repair. They should have had someone who knew what they're doing in the first place. Also, if there was a better phone service, we'd get through quicker. I understand they have a backlog and I got to wait in line a little bit but a couple of times, I waited 45 minutes just to get through to somebody. That is much longer than I feel it should. Still, American Home Shield is a good service.

I had two claims at the same time with American Home Shield. One was to fix the dishwasher and the other one was to repair the faucet in the master tub. AHS handled the initial call really well and both contractors were good. The guy who did the dishwasher had missed some stuff in the pump but he came right back and took care of it. AHS covers plumbing and the only thing I was concerned about was with the bathtub. If you take the faucet off, there's water gushing everywhere, so it's got to be part of the plumbing. But they wouldn't cover it and it cost me a ton of money. But everything works well since the repairs. And overall, AHS has always been quick to answer the phone and to handle whatever issues we had. They've been a good company to work with.

Our air conditioning stopped working in the middle of summer during 90 degree days. A tech came out the day I requested service and identified a bad heat exchanger on the furnace and recommended a full replacement. 3 weeks went by and the tech did not receive parts from American Home Shield. When I called I requested to speak with a manager. They said, "A manager will only speak with you by calling you back within 24 hours." 48 hours later and still no call. I had to call back and they tried to sign me up for another manager call back.
Even after telling them I'm still waiting for a call back they refused to let a manager speak with me. I told them I would hold until management was available. An hour and a half later they hung up on me. I am currently still waiting for replacement furnace. I highly recommend not using American Home Shield. Seems like a scamming company to me. I threatened legal action and still no management correspondence. Will probably sue company over family welfare.

Also, the contractor they sent was okay but I don't know what they did about my water heater because I bought my own water heater and I paid my own person to come in, put the water heater in and do my wiring. They said that I need to have my wiring redone before they can repair it. The company that they sent out want to charge to repair it along with me paying for the service fee. It's ridiculous. They are not willing to pay part of the rewiring of the house where I did everything down myself. I'll probably end up cancelling them because it's not beneficial for me lately. My programmable WiFi thermostat has been having issues that caused the air conditioner to stop working. I called to file a claim to American Home Shield and I had a very professional interaction with the rep over the phone. It took them a day or two to send someone out but that was at a time when it was hot here and air conditioning was in high demand so it didn't surprise me. The contractor who came was very professional as well. He called ahead to let me know that he was running late and when he arrived, he did a pretty good job of explaining the problem. I was a little skeptical but it turned out he was right.
He made a temporary repair while he circled back to get approval to put the same type of thermostat that was back in place. That was very convenient that he was able to restore the AC on his first visit. When he came back the second time, he essentially replaced the WiFi thermostat with one of equal quality. I called American Home Shield to have a hot water tank fixed and the rep scheduled the appointment. Then the plumber contacted me for the dates that he would actually be coming out. The first time he came, he just did an observation and then had to come back with the parts. It's been great since the repair. That said, I don't like the fact that they come out and then have to come back. I’ve already told them what the problem was.
When I called about the hot water tank, the rep asked me, "Was the water coming out of the top of the tank or the bottom of the tank?" I said, "The bottom of the tank.” They knew that it had to be replaced. I'm a woman and I knew that. But why did you have to send this man out here? Also, it cost me $475 to replace this tank. Why? What's the purpose of having this issue after I paid that kind of money?
Another thing was when I had things breaking down one thing after the other. I was really frustrated because I called them about my ice maker leaking water. If you are an appliance person, you automatically know that the ice maker needed to be replaced. So, why didn't they just bring an ice maker that day? They send someone out and then they have to come back and me being a self-employed hairstylist, I don't have time to keep changing appointments. All in all, though, it was a good experience.

The sinks are running slow in my house on Park. There's some stoppage and there's regurgitation up into the toilets and the showers. Raw sewage is coming back up into the shower. Yesterday, the plumber came, looked around and wasn't able to find a cleanout access. He explained that without cleanout access, American Home Shield wouldn't cover it. He then left and I called them back because I talked to somebody here who told me that there is a cleanout access on the south side of the house. I called the plumber back, his name is Spencer, and he was going to call me back but I haven't heard from him yet. This problem is now getting to be two months old.
Submitting a claim, originally, was very easy but I placed the order back in July and nobody ever called me. Interestingly enough, I have two properties with American Home Shield and had put in claims for both properties. The plumber who came out for Twelve Oaks was not the one that had been assigned to Park. Yesterday, it was the plumber from Twelve Oaks who came. So Spencer and I recognized each other and then went from there. Also, I called earlier this week because the air-conditioning went out on Park. I called for a referral to Harkins AC Heating and Controls because they know the house and they know the system and they are members of American Home Shield. So, AHS sent the dispatch to them and I called on Tuesday morning. They sent somebody out Tuesday afternoon.
My experience with American Home Shield has been great. My concern is that there wasn't any follow up as to whether or not the official contractor has even contacted us. The two plumbers that I talked to were unfortunately sent to two different addresses. The one that came to Twelve Oaks to fix the water heater is the one who ended up showing up yesterday at Park for the plumbing issue, which was not the original assigned plumber. I would definitely recommend AHS, though. This now makes my third home with them.

A co-worker was talking about American Home Shield one time and I checked into it. I have been with American Home Shield since 2006 and I continue to use them. When I had to get an air conditioner fixed, I filed a claim through the internet on a Friday and it was pretty easy. By the following Monday afternoon, I got a phone call and the technician came on a Tuesday afternoon. He diagnosed the problem, fixed it and he was gone in about an hour. So far, everything AHS fixed has been great. They always fixed whatever needed to be fixed as long as it fell within the policy that we had. But sometimes, you think something is going to be fixable but they point it out to you that it's not. If I just read my policy, I would understand that that wasn't covered. Other than that, everything else is good.
Jay,
We appreciate your loyalty with us at American Home Shield! You are one of the reasons we strive to be the very best at what we do! We appreciate your feedback and look forward to servicing your appliance/system needs soon! Thank you!

I’ve had American Home Shield before and I got them again when I moved. I have them for about four years this time and I'm glad I have them because they’re very good. I recommend them to everybody. I recently had to do a claim because of my dryer. I used their online submission and it was perfect. Everything went very well. They sent a guy from Sears and I was surprised by that but he was very good. He was also nice and he knew exactly what he was doing. My dryer would keep running and the timer wouldn't shut off so they put a new one in and it's working fine now. But the switch in the door is no good. They've replaced it twice now and I've given up on it. So I put a piece of paper on it and now it works.

Sunday night 9/10/17 our water heater went out. Wife initiated contact with AHS via internet. They arranged for a local plumber to contact us. The following morning 9/11/17, plumber was able to come out and assess the problem. Was told the water heater was old and beyond repair, leaking water etc. no longer working (it was 12 years old), needed to be changed with a new one. I agreed.
As the repair person waited a great length to contact AHS and advise them of the problem, I looked online at new water heaters. The repair person had said that AHS gets the water heaters at Lowe's/Home Depot and that I would have to get a smaller capacity tank, they no longer have any over 50 gals. for residential use. The bigger ones are for commercial use and very expensive. I saw that both Lowes/Home Depot had water heaters that would fit into the space I had for my old water heater. Several brands (A O Smith and Rheem) some with a 6 year warranty and others with a 12 year warranty. I went out to the plumbers truck while waiting on hold with AHS and told him that I guessed AHS would get the cheapest model for replacement and that I would be willing to pay out of pocket for the better water heater with the 12 year warranty. He said I would need to talk with them about that.
I went back inside and waited. After some time he finished the call with AHS and came back to the house. He said that AHS would contact me about the water heater and left. After several hours I called AHS and waited for 90 minutes for them to come on the line. I told them I was being proactive after having not heard back from them about the repair/replacement of my water heater. I was told that the repair person had said I didn't like the model they would provide and wanted a cash out so I could buy my own and then pay for the labor fees for installation myself. NOT TRUE. The outside dimensions of the cheaper tank 6 year warranty or the Cadillac tank 12 year warranty were the same. Both would fit in my space provided without any upgrades or changes. Bottom line, because I wanted to pay for the better water heater, it threw the repair into [suspense].
Would be several days for them to review and act on this, meanwhile, NO hot water for my family. I just wanted to get a better model that may provide enough hot water for my family since the larger capacity water heater was no longer available. AHS said they have no idea when the plumber could get the water heater and/or install it. I told AHS that every time I had used their service warranty contract, some snafu had come up.
Wait time to get them on the phone, horrendous. Them locating someone to repair the problem, especially with aerobic septic systems, horrendous. They don't care about the homeowner/policy holder or how much inconvenience you may be experiencing. Bottom line, I went and bought a water heater on my own. Contacted another plumber and set up a convenient time for installation on my own. Canceled my warranty service agreement with AHS. Save yourself the hassle and frustration. Shoddy company.
Mr. Kirkpatrick,
Thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention. Although you were not able to speak directly with a live agent, we will be more than happy to help resolve your concern. I was mislead to believe that my home warranty would cover all repairs to my home, the only out of pocket would be 75.00 Service fee. They sent me confirmation of the warranty but never sent me any other documents. I am a realtor and was encouraging people to use this since I had been explained that it was great coverage. I was never told that there was a limit to bringing the home up to codes requirements which since my water heater went out 2 days ago I found out they cover that up to 250.00 only and the contractor says that's going to cost 400.00. So out of pocket that's 150.00. Plus the other items one totaling 75.00, the other 325.00, and 185 for copper pipes to be added to the home. Out of Pocket 335.00 plus the 75.00 Service fee for a total of $410.00. I am not a happy person that I was lied to by the sales department.
With them lying to me I have had one of my client's purchase the warranty on their home. Now, I am going to appear like I didn't give them the correct information. This part makes me angry as I have a passion for my career and I love helping my clients in every way I can. Now, it appears I did something I did not mean to by giving my client the wrong information. Now, going through the process, I now learned how this is and I was about to order another policy for a buyer this week and now looking at other companies.
You cannot expect for me to refer anyone to this company because they mislead me to believe something that is not true. I was never sent the contract and I was the realtor and the buyer on my home. I still don't have a copy and its nothing they have you agree to or sign. Just to include being on hold for an hour before speaking to anyone on the phone about this issue. It's still not resolved. Cant speak to a supervisor due to the hurricane. Their were only 3 people there today. They were just like, "Oh well get over it and pay it." That's not what I was told and I finding this frightening. What else were they hiding. I wish I would have went with the other company. I compared them two now as I have a friend state they have done everything they told him they would do.
Mr. Simpson,

We had a vendor from American Home Shield come out for the toilet. It was a plumbing incident and we felt it was an emergency which it was. The toilet started to flow causing contaminated water to go from our bathroom to our master closet. It created damage and we couldn’t get it to stop. The American Home Shield rep on the phone was there but was unsupportive of what I was trying to tell her. She told to tell me that they didn't do emergency claims. I told her where the last time I filed an emergency claim, somebody called and got somebody on the phone for me and handled the situation. She was not willing to do that. She would just leave a message for the vendor and they’ll call me back within 24 hours.
The vendor was nice enough to call me right back and I told him the situation. He came right out and did a great job, but there was no help from American Home Shield. They were useless. Once the vendor got the contaminated water stopped, we ended up spending more money to correct the situation. I had other incidents that I wasn’t pleased with, but I've dealt with it because of my laziness to research other options. At this point I've been with them for 10 years or more. I haven't gotten around to cancelling them yet but we've been searching for another direction to go as far as home warranty people.
I also got people that work in my office who have them and they said they're leaving them. One said he's leaving because of the way he was treated and that AHS didn't even render a service yet, but they wanted him to pay upfront. That’s not cool with me so I'm done. AHS has changed over the years. It's not customer-friendly anymore but more vendor-friendly. It's now more contractor-friendly.

I got American Home Shield when I closed on this house on August 1st and we've had five claims since then. Three of those are individual claims and the others were just following up on issues that needed resolution. It’s relatively easy to submit a claim. The only issue that I ran into was when I had a claim that hasn’t been marked as complete on their end and I needed to call them out for something. I couldn't go online and submit a request. I had to call and the wait times were ridiculous.
One day I had to call three times because I’m a traveling nurse and I spend a lot of time on the road so I would call while I was driving and I’d be on hold for 30 minutes to an hour. Then I would get to where I was going and have to hang up, and then I would have to call back and start all over. I’ve also tried calling at different times of the day and it always takes a long time, but I understand that they probably have people calling them from all over. But once I finally got in touch with somebody, it was a positive experience. Other than that, I had some coverage issues for things that weren’t covered but I understand that they can’t cover everything because then they probably wouldn’t stay in business with the amount of money they'd have to shell out for that.
My most recent claim was for a leak I noticed not long after I moved into the house, but I think it had been an ongoing issue that was ignored. I called American Home Shield and they had to come out a few times ‘cause there were a couple of things that were missed initially but they made up for it. The owner of the plumbing company that represents AHS in my area is a really nice, knowledgeable and helpful guy. I wasn’t too happy with a couple of the people that he sent out but they ended up fixing this most recent problem and I think that they stepped up their game. They did a good job and they were nice and friendly too.

We were not able to rectify the problem but the contractors were responsive and they're still working on my pumps. I purchased a home and got the American Home Shield warranty with it. We had a pressing issue about a leak from the piping into the basement so I contacted AHS and filed a claim to get that problem fixed. I did it over the phone and it was fairly simple. They gave me a couple of options to pick from. They asked me if it was taping or some other issue and it was easy to decipher exactly how to put it to them so that they knew what they were coming out to look at.
However, the first contractor was very unprofessional and was a nightmare. I talked to American Home Shield about that and they were actually really great at resolving the issue for me. They sent out a new contractor, who fixed everything when they said they would and I haven’t had a problem since. I had also spoken with Kendrick, who was a great representative for American Home Shield and I would give him recognition. He was very much a gentleman. He took care of the problem and went above and beyond my expectations for it. He was very effective, especially at communicating and making sure I also knew what he was putting into effect. He also followed through with what he said and I received an e-mail just like he told me I would. Plus, he told me I could call if there was something more he could do to resolve the situation.

I’ve had American Home Shield for four years now on a condo that I am renting out. I've been pretty happy with the service up until the incident we had in May with the air conditioner. They sent a contractor who said that due to American Home Shield's policy, the first thing that they have to do was check the coolant levels. If they see those numbers are wrong, they would fill it and charge at a discounted rate. And so we did that. Then they said I should call them back if there’s any problem. Two months later, the air conditioner was not blowing cold again. I called and they came out, found that there was a bad part and they had to replace it. And then, I got a call and they were asking for $125 for service call. I told them I’m not going to pay yet because there are things I don't understand.
So I went back to American Home Shield and told them what happened, they said I’m a few days over the 30-day window for recall policy. But that’s because the guy had to follow their policy, he didn't look at anything else except the coolant numbers. He could have identified what was wrong had he not been limited by what he can do. And it doesn’t make sense because the coolant level could be low because there's a bigger problem. Then, if it's just outside of that 30-day window, even if there’s a leak somewhere, coolant can get you through 30 to 60 days or whatever the callback time is. The rep said there's nothing I can do and there's probably nothing the supervisor's going to do but she still asked me if I want a call back and I said I would. That was a couple of weeks ago and I haven't gotten a call yet.
So now, I'm paying the HVAC company the $125 plus the coolant charge. And they want another $125 because they found a different problem, which they could have found if they had taken a full diagnostic look at the system. The air conditioner is for my tenant who’s an older lady and I haven’t received any complaints about it so far. But now we're in cooler weather and she only started complaining when it was getting 100 degrees here in St. Louis.
Apart from this recent one, my claim experiences with American Home Shield have been fine. I've done the claim online and through the automated voice, and both were pretty easy. They’ve sent out contractors who were helpful and friendly. I had a furnace go out before, which was probably a $4,000 expense, and I wouldn't have had four grand to replace it. It ended up costing me only five hundred bucks out of pocket because I had American Home Shield. So, they've done well in the past, just beware of the fine print.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 10 years and I recently had some issues which I called them for. My initial complaint was the toilet and then a few days later it became the sink in the bathroom. I went through their automated system and it assigned a sewer company. Because of the bathroom, they thought it was a sewer issue. I called and spoke with a live person and she went ahead to send the sewer company out. I told her that I was concerned as to whether they were sending the right person but she told me that whatever I needed to have done, that company would be able to take care of it. When the guy came out, he told me he is not a plumber. He ran the auger down the toilet and didn’t get anything. That was the most that he could do and told me I needed a plumbing company. I called back to AHS and told them that.
AHS sent Certified Plumbing & Drain Specialists and they're a wonderful company. They got really good people who did outstanding work. There was something wrong with the toilet and the guy fixed it. They also noted of another issue which they referred to as the stack in the basement. It’s the sewer line that goes from the bathtub and everything else and goes to take the sewage outside of the home. He did an inspection of that and took photos which he submitted and AHS has approved to have the toilet seat replaced.
I was very disappointed as far as calling in and having to schedule the claim with my computer. It took me a while to do that as well as to get to a live person. When customers are calling in, it’s probably best for us to speak with a live person to make sure that AHS is not sending the wrong resources out. But in my case, as soon as they learned that they sent the wrong guys, they sent the right person out and they got the job done. I’m very satisfied with the service, the price, and with American Home Shield overall.

If they can’t repair, they will replace. It’s also a good thing that the customers have the option of upgrading and paying the difference. I filed a claim with them because my old refrigerator went out. I called on the phone at first and then my daughter helped me to do it online. The repairman came and he couldn't fix the refrigerator. He said the parts of that fridge, and even the actual fridge, were not being sold anymore.
Their reps told me how we’d go about the issue and where the replacement fridge would be delivered from. They gave me an approximate date too. American Home Shield is a good company, but they need more improvement. They need to have somebody on standby at all times for emergencies. Finally, we were able to wait long enough to get a representative on the phone. We waited on hold for OVER AN HOUR. The contractor assigned to the job NEVER contacted us.
We called American Home Shield back, again we waited over an hour. Finally, the job was rescheduled with a different contractor. I have American Home Shield for several years now. I usually make a call to submit a claim and within a day or so, I hear from the company and the company will decide on the next few days what’s going to be a convenient date and time for them to come out when I’m going to be home. I called AHS recently to submit a claim on my lights. I have two lights on each side of the garage and one light that hangs right over the front door that works with one switch. Something was not right with the switch and it wasn’t about changing the bulb.
The first company told me that they would come out the next day but I had to work so I asked them if they had anything in the morning. They said that they could come out between 8:00 and 9:00 and gave me only an hour window so I stayed at home even though I had to work at that time. At around 11:30, I hadn’t heard anything, so I continually called. The company informed me that the technician was at the first location where he ran into some issues and was going to be late. I needed to work so I needed to have an idea when they’re coming but they said they can’t give me that and that the tech will call me when he’s on his way.
I called American Home Shield since I wasn’t going to play games and I told them that I had to cancel it. They, in turn, said that that was very unsatisfactory to what they guarantee their customers and cancelled it. Then they got back with me and gave me a new company to call. This man called me immediately. He was a very nice gentleman, but when he learned what my address was, he said that he didn’t know why American Home Shield gave me over to him because I was way too far out of his jurisdiction and it would not be cost-effective for him to come out.
I then got referred to another company and this company gave me what the contractors always do, a four-hour window. It was the first window in the morning, 8:00 to 1:00, but by almost 4:00 they were still not here and I got no calls so I had to cancel the appointment. I had somebody else come out and a gentleman resolved the issue. He was very nice and he came within his window.
But I called American Home Shield and told them that for what I went through, I didn’t want to pay the $100 deductible. I expected them to pay it. But getting them to do that was a nightmare because initially, AHS told me that it can't be done. They were also sending me bills telling me this $100 is past due. I had to call them again and remind them that in 2010, this happened to me too and they paid my deductible. I also threatened them that if they don't pick up my deductible, I will never come back to AHS once my contract is up. So finally, after 20 calls, the problem was resolved.
I was also so annoyed because every time I called AHS, I had to hang on to the phone for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get to a real person and it’s horrifying. The only time I’ve gotten through at a normal rate was some holiday that most likely everybody was enjoying and I decided to call American Home Shield.
I had a problem too when I called AHS for a garage door opener repair. The contract confused me so I asked several questions, and this young lady told me that it was covered. But when the contractor came out, he informed me that it wasn’t. Since I needed to have the issue fixed, I paid for the repair and when I called American Home Shield, they told me that they had to research to find out who I spoke with. They found out that I was telling them the truth and that their rep indeed informed me that it would be covered. So instead of reimbursing me for whatever that part was, the next time I called American Home Shield there was a credit on my account and they picked up the deductible. I also had an issue with my washer and they replaced it but I’m not happy with what they gave me. It does the job, but it is the noisiest, craziest washer I’ve ever seen and I don’t like it.
My mom who’s in Ohio has American Home Shield too and she has never had problems like these. My sister is also thrilled with her AHS policy and she’s in California. As for me, overall, when they have come out, the repairs have been good and the warranty has benefited me. But it has had some huge issues and it hasn’t come easy. So I would tell somebody to get a home warranty since it’s a good idea but I wouldn’t recommend AHS.

My family had American Home Shield at their home and it helped them out a lot. So they pressured me to go with American Home Shield. It's a lot of money upfront that I almost secretly hope something's broken already and I get my money for it. I recently had a claim with American Home Shield to fix a stovetop. That was pretty smooth. The technician arrived on time. He had to scrape away a lot of old dirt from the stovetop. He was quiet and polite, and did his work. It's still not perfect but he fixed it. It was a very quick experience.
Then I tried to do a different claim but I wasn't sure if it fits the contract. For the second situation, I had an inspector at the house for an electrical thing for something separate. I was told I had to get a new outlet because it was unsafe. Now, I didn't know if it's counted as broken or not working. The person on the phone the second time wasn't very helpful because he wanted me to spend a $100 co-pay with the possibility that it wouldn't be following the contract and then I would be spending a $100 for no reason.
I wish the person who picked up the phone had a technical background. It was just someone copying down what I said. In the end, it technically wasn't broken according to the contract, but I was trying to find out before I spend the $100 co-pay. So I canceled that second claim. I just wanted a clear answer and I felt very uncomfortable that second time around. Except for this instance, it has been quick. Right after I do a claim, I get a text right away and I'm pretty impressed with that. I'm satisfied with it overall, it's an efficient system. I just wish it was a little cheaper.

The upstairs AC unit was no longer working in my home so I contacted AHS to come out and see what's wrong, and repair it. They were very quick to come out, diagnose the issue and repair it right the first time. The claims reps are always very helpful, informative and friendly. Explaining what my level of coverage is and what I can expect from the vendor that they're going to send to me for the repair. The interactions have been very seamless which is helpful for me. I work quite a distance from my home so I'm always given a window of time that the contractors will arrive. And they arrive within that window.
I had someone in the home the next day and it was something minor that could be repaired and didn't require to order a part so within 30 minutes at maximum the gentleman was done repairing the AC and on his way. Even the vendors that come to me are very, very informative, letting me know what needed to be done. They also to gave me preventative measures for whatever the unit needs to be repaired.

We've had a couple of issues but American Home Shield hasn't covered anything for us. We just kept getting charged with the $75 service call. They came out for the dishwasher months ago and the thing never worked. They came back out a couple of weeks ago for that and this guy said he ordered all the parts for it. He also said that he's going to be back to fix it but we haven't heard from him and that was four weeks ago. Then we had a guy come out for a plumbing leak. He was trying to say it was coming from the ceramic tile but it's not. It's coming from the drain pipe. Then he said it was coming from the shower and left telling us it wasn't covered. Then somebody came out for the double oven and also said it wasn't covered in the warranty. So I got irritated, ripped it out myself and put a new one in.
We've given AHS nothing but money. We paid five service calls at $375 and our monthly dues, plus we paid the year in advance last year. It's been a mess and the companies they sent out were awful. They spent two minutes in the house, took the $75, and they're out the door with no resolution. We would like some help but we're getting nowhere when we call AHS. We wish they’d at least come and fix the dishwasher. We already had two techs come out for it and it's still not fixed. So overall, it's not the greatest experience.

My AC went out and the fan kept running but it was getting hotter. I wasn't sure what's going on until we noticed that the AC outside was just not working, so I filed a claim with American Home Shield like I always do. I used their automated system and it went through fine, but it happened on a Friday and I didn't want to wait for the delay because I have young kids. And so, I contacted a different provider that American Home Shield used and often helped us out. I asked if they could come in sooner at any time because I've got kids and I can't have them sleeping in this weather. And he said that was fine, so we tried to work that out.
I really like American Home Shield. I've never had any issues with them, but I had a very hard time getting a hold of someone on the phone. Every number I called was experiencing extremely long wait-times, over 30 minutes. And I waited for like an hour one time. I've had them for several years and that was just the recent occurrence. It's never happened before so I don't know what's going on. It's difficult to transact by the phone if I needed to really speak with someone about my billing or the situation that I had, where I needed to get a different vendor from the one they had given me already. The phone tree only works for the basics, if you have a service problem or want to cancel. But when I got to the rep, the interaction was fine, he transferred me over to the vendors. And then, the vendor who can come early called me and told me when they’re gonna come.
The contractor who came was Laney and he’s great. He actually owns the company and has 20 plus years of service. He assessed the situation right away and I got to have a brand new unit. Installation took about three hours and everything was fine. I'm actually surprised that I don't get more push back, because like with any warranty company, the customer is subject to limitations. But I have 12 items that are covered and if something breaks I call American Home Shield and they send somebody out. They've been really great and very helpful, so other than the long wait-times on the phone, I have a positive experience with them. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield but they said I hadn’t been with them long enough to replace my roof. It was easy to file but nothing came of it after they outright refused my claim within a few minutes. AHS called me back a couple of days to tell me why they refused and I paid for the roof out of pocket. I'm not officially canceled with AHS until my agent does something formally. Half an hour after he left, when my wife put the laundry, the dryer went back to doing what it was doing before. I wasn’t trying to phone again. I got online with Facebook. I posted on American Home Shield page what happened and at 15-minute turnaround, they’d answered it. It’s the biggest improvement over the rest. I just moved into my house on June the 28th and I had to put my first claim on our sewer ejector pump with American Home Shield on July the 1st. I've put the same claim in five times in a row in the last two months. Getting their reps on the phone was awful. I would sit on hold and there were a few times I stayed on hold for almost an hour before someone answered my phone call. Most of the people were polite though, but there were some times that I felt like the employees didn’t work at the same company because they were not on the same page. One employee would tell me one thing and the other employee would tell me something totally different about my coverage. One lady even said, “That’s new to me. We haven’t been trained on that yet. I didn’t know that.”
They keep sending out a plumber from K&S Plumbing and I don’t recommend that company because the plumber came out multiple times and told us it was the same issue. I then called my own plumber and got an outside authorization and my plumber said I had a major problem. My pump was burned up and the piping was messed up. He had a diagnosis compared to the other plumber who never fixed the problem. The last he came out, it was on a Tuesday afternoon and he did something to the pump and it worked for three days then on Friday, it went back out. I had to call AHS back and file another claim for the same issue.
I got charged the first two times a $75 service fee which I didn’t feel was right because the problem never got corrected. And the first time the plumber came out, it was the 4th of July weekend. The lady I talked to from AHS said she couldn't find a plumber to come to our house that week. But it was an emergency because we had no use of our bathrooms or our water. The sewer was backing up in our house. She said I could get an outside authorization so I called the plumbing company near me. They can't touch the problem until they were preapproved for an outside authorization and I told them that. The plumber gave AHS what he thought it would cost without even touching the plumbing. They came and pumped it out, but the problem never truly got fixed.
The work also ended up costing the plumber more. They charged me $525 and I paid for it. I sent AHS the final invoice but American Home Shield only reimbursed me $225 for the amount that it cost to get the stoppage undone. I was not happy about that. I called back and asked why I was only getting a check for half of what the service cost and the lady said that that was the initial quote that the plumber gave them so they were not going to cover the rest of it. I told her that was not right because the plumber didn’t know as he didn't get his hands dirty yet. He was just guesstimating. But I ended up eating that other charge which I felt was very unfair.
I looked at AHS' policy online and it said that I shouldn’t have to pay a service fee if it's been within 60 days of the same problem. When I called and asked about being reimbursed, no one even offered and said that they could reimburse me for that or that they were sorry that that happened and that it was a glitch. No one even tried to help me with that. When I talk to people, I feel like they don’t even care. Not being able to go to one's own restroom and not being able to shower and wash dishes is a huge inconvenience and it's frustrating for the homeowner. And to have someone on the other line that doesn’t even really act like they care sucks.
Yesterday, the plumber that actually diagnosed the issue came out to the house and he replaced the sewer ejector pump and it cost $2,600 out of pocket to replace it. But the lady that I talked to yesterday said that they would only cover $500 of that which is unreal for me. So I had to put it on the credit card because I don’t have $2,600 just laying around. But the pump's fixed as of yesterday.
Also, if I called American Home Shield on a Friday night, I wouldn’t hear from them until maybe Saturday night and then they would say that they've contacted the plumbing company and we should hear from them within 24 hours. But two days pass by and I hear from the plumbing company. They then have to put us on their schedule. Overall, it was a difficult experience.

I had four appliances that needed repair - my oven that had a broken handle, my oven range hood that had a motor that wasn't working as well as it should, an ice maker that wasn't making as much ice as it should, and a washer that was leaking water when it was washing comforters. I had a guy come out within 48 hours and he identified all the parts that needed to be done. He was able to repair three of the four appliances with parts that were still in stock. Except for the oven, which the handle, unfortunately, was discontinued, even though the oven was manufactured in 2004 or 2005. The oven was operational, just no handle.
At that point, the appliance guy didn't finish the job and it was handed off to another vendor that's more responsible for replacing ovens. American Home Shield elected to replace the oven and it would cost me to have something of equal and like qualities. The initial claim was made in mid-August and it was finally replaced in around September 2nd. I'm not going to bellyache about it because I only had to pay $75 deductible for the entire process. I got a whole new oven that had Lowe's retail value of $1200 to $1400 depending on where you shop. It was super fantastic. I pay $55 a month and it was worth it. I would very much recommend them.

I've had the same issue about my air conditioner and this is the seventh week of my summer in Florida at over 100 degrees with three small children and without air conditioner. American Home Shield didn't handle the situation properly and the problem was the terrible company that they sent. There was a human error so I was so upset. It could have been solved but out of four appointments, the technician only showed up to two with no notice. If my appointment was at noon, they would show up at 8:00 at night without calling me and they never answered the phone. They called to tell me they're coming in for two hours at noon the next day and that's the last time I heard from them.
I called American Home Shield everyday and they insisted on this company. Later on, they gave me authorization to go with someone from outside the network but each day was one more day that I didn’t have air conditioner. So I called another company and after they came, I sent American Home Shield their plan and prices but AHS said it was too expensive. By then, they had left me with no air conditioner for one month and then they sent me a third company which was a different story. It was a very decent company. They picked up the phone and called me every couple of minutes to tell me the technician would be there 10 minutes late. They wouldn’t leave if my air conditioner wasn’t working.
However, two weeks ago, the air conditioner broke again. I asked for the decent company to come but American Home Shield told me no. They said the first company needed to come because they were the ones who started the thing out. It was a joke. But I did not sit and wait for people to decide anything. I called them every other day twice a day because I knew they didn't care. I tried to get American Home Shield to transfer everything to the decent company and they finally accepted it yesterday. However, they were not doing what they were supposed to do. Depending on who I got on the phone, some reps were a little bit more helpful and some were not. They just repeated things that I didn't need to hear. It's been a terrible experience and they know how upset I am. I had been screaming to them on the phone everyday.

I had some plumbing issues in my house so I called American Home Shield's 1800 number and set up an appointment for one of their vendors to come out which was K&S Plumbing. The typical turnaround time is a couple of days so that was expected, but when the person came out, he stayed for 20 minutes on the telephone and then he spoke to my husband for a little while. My plumbing was backed up and the plumber mentioned that he couldn't run the line because American Home Shield would only cover a portion of the line to be run, which was 100 feet and it needed to be more. He said it won't be covered but they could charge us $600 to have somebody come out and blow the system out like a pressure pump so the plumbing would start working again.
At that point, I couldn't use any of my plumbing so obviously the repair was a matter of urgency. I asked when was the earliest available time and he said he was going to call. However, I was going to have to wait five days before he could even get the truck out to use this service and I couldn't even go elsewhere. Plus I have kids and I have to run water and take baths.
He also told me he found something else that was wrong while he was looking. The gauge was off a certain number than what it was supposed to be, but I decided I would call somebody else on my own. I was not going to sit there and wait five days for somebody to come out. Besides, if it wasn't going to be covered under American Home Shield, I probably needed to call somebody else anyway. When the new contractor came out, he told me that the distance and the cord that he needed was 40. He didn't even need the whole amount of what the first plumber said and the repair would have been covered. Plus when the guy checked the little dial for the gauge, it was actually exactly where it needed to be because I bought that part two years beforehand.
So K&S Plumbing was going to charge me $600, yet I ended up getting all of it done on the same day for $250. It didn't take their plumber very long to figure out that he couldn't do the job either, which was to say, he really didn't check. It sounded like he just tried to make some money on his own. Unfortunately, the company that American Home Shield chose to come out was not very trustworthy. An older person or somebody that didn't know what to do or who to contact wouldn’t have wanted to deal with that. Some people would wait five days for the plumber to come back out. It was that emergency type of situation and people would have paid them the $600. I was not happy to say the least.
My husband suggested I call and take it up with K&S Plumbing but I felt like American Home Shield should have had it right to begin with and I was not giving them a pass to get it right. The plumber was a liar from the beginning and American Home Shield needs to screen whoever they choose to use. It was such a headache. It was a Friday afternoon at that point and it was so completely uncalled for. On top of that, the guy was even smoking. I don't care if somebody smokes but don't smoke outside of my driveway. It’s my home and it was very unprofessional.
AHS didn't even need to be working with K&S Plumbing. I work in real estate and AHS is somebody that I work with. I send their number to clients of mine most of the time and this would have happened to my clients. Then my clients would be getting mad at me because I referred AHS. The situation could have been prevented based on my previous situation when I called American Home Shield and the same company came out. The person who showed up was the nicest guy ever, although he had painted tattoos all over his face and his body, even on his eyelids. He was hard to look at and if my little boy would have been there, he would have been terrified. I hate that though, because he was very helpful.
Also, I paid the $75 on top of the $250 and I didn't feel like having to deal with the inconvenience of having to call someone else or any of that. I had to wait additional three days since if I didn't have the home warranty, then I would have called that second contractor anyway. I was not going to pay the $75 and I needed to get my money back at that point. They did take care of that, so I appreciated that, but they haven't given me all of it back yet.

American Home Shield is overpriced. You don't really get anything for what you're paying for. It gets sold as more coverage than what it actually is. What I see is that there are no preventative measures. The measures are reactive. So everything has to be broken in order to be covered. I was moving into my property, which is a pre-owned resale, and the items that I was trying to get repaired aren't covered until they are broken through. The most recent claim I had with them was for the toilet. I was trying to be proactive in having them rechecked because it had a leak. I put some sealant on it and I thought that it would work, but it was still leaking when I checked. I filed the claim online but I had to go through the phone to discuss all four toilets because when you do something online, you can only do one claim at a time. The details also aren't there and when you select something, it darkens out where you can't select another thing.
When they made it here, miraculously, it wasn't leaking again. The guy who came tightened a bolt and that was the repair. I basically paid $75 for the guy to tighten the bolt. So, that experience was not good for me. Now, I'm gun-shy to call them for something so simple. I wish I could find a more quality insurer that will consider to personally call.

I had a problem with the vent so my husband submitted a claim online. American Home Shield sent out somebody who couldn’t work on the vent since it was a component of our furnace. But as soon as I called them and said what was going on, I explained that it was an oil and not an electric furnace, they sent somebody else and that person took care of the problem. Overall, AHS makes things really easy. We haven't had any problems with them. They answer questions when we have them. They also send out really nice guys.

I called the 1-800 number for American Home Shield to file a claim when we heard some noise coming from the air conditioner while we were doing some remodeling on the house. It was a really long wait time so I had my wife do an online service request that went smoothly. According to my wife, the guy that came out was professional and courteous and knew what he was doing. Now, the AC is working fine. I would like to add that they say it takes 24 hours for them to call once you make a claim so I was just wondering if it could be faster for something urgent. Other than that, everything’s smooth and I’d definitely recommend them to a friend. We’re actually having some plumbing work done today through American Home Shield and we’re paying $75 for a service call – a very good value for a warranty that was paid by the seller of this house.

My water bill had increased significantly to $85 and my water bill is never that high. I didn’t notice for a month that my toilet, you could hear water surging every now and then so it had been going on for a while. I tried looking in it and adjusting the little bobble thing myself but couldn’t solve the problem. So I called American Home Shield to see if someone could come out. Sometimes it’s hard getting through on the phone lines of AHS to reach someone. But after you get someone, they’re pretty quick. Within 48 hours, you’ll have someone call you back and give you the claim number so you know what’s going on. Then they’ll call you back and have someone set up an appointment to come out and work with you. I'm a nurse and with how I work, it’s really important that they're here if they tell me they’re gonna be here at a certain time ‘cause I'm on someone else’s time and they’ve been pretty good about that so far.
I’ve had bad experiences in the past with a contractor and have asked AHS that they not be sent back. They’ve been really good about not sending that company back. They have certain people that they work with and it’s just who you’re getting, what day it is, and what kind of mood they’re in. But as a whole, interactions with the contractors were good. I've stayed with AHS this long and I’ll be with them longer. I’m pretty pleased.

We had a leak and a faucet needed to be replaced. The plumbers came as expected and the two guys were fairly young but very knowledgeable. They explained exactly what would happen and because my house is not very new, the work that needed to be done required a part which they would order and then they would call me back to set up an appointment to install. They called back, came in, replaced the part and walked out and it was a very nice experience. Another time, the humidifier on my furnace was dripping. The contractor looked at it. He said there was no leak and that I just didn't tighten it enough. He did that extra little thing and made life a little bit easier. They were fabulous and very nice. I've used other contractors before, but AHS should definitely keep these ones and continue to work with them. We could not ask for any better. All in all, American Home Shield has always been very good and has always pulled through.

My air conditioner needed a capacitor and I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. The guy who came to fix it was nice and he did a good job. Our AC kept us cold since then. But I didn’t like that when the guy came out, he said that the thermostat wasn’t clicking off to idle and I have to file another claim. I’m not going to file another claim for that because it’s another $120. Other than that, I’ve recommended them to other people.

We thought we had an electrical wiring problem so we called American Home Shield’s 800 number around the 19th of August. The power was out for the refrigerator, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. He's very professional and was able to diagnose it and figure it out quickly. Right now, I am happy with the service and I don't have any complaints. They're customer-friendly and efficient.

My air conditioner was leaking recently. I looked through my contract with American Home Shield to make sure that it was covered. I called, spoke to a representative, and they booked me an appointment. It was my second time using American Home Shield and the contractor who came out was really professional. He fixed the issue with my air conditioner. He was very thorough.
When they fixed my furnace some years ago, I was shocked because the contractor had to come out twice. The first time he came out, he did a quick fix. Then the furnace broke again. I called back and the same contractor came back the next day. He said, "Well, I saw this issue yesterday." He was waiting for a piece to break and he chose not to fix it or he was limited by the policy when he came out the first time not to fix the problem. I had to go through another night being cold in the winter. That was a little frustrating. I also don't like the delay dispatch of the service. If you called on a Monday, they probably can't send anybody out until Wednesday or Thursday. It's definitely frustrating. I've had American Home Shield since 2009, and that hasn't changed over the years. Nevertheless, they have excellent customer service.
Romesha,
Thank you for expressing this feedback to American Home Shield. We are glad to hear your overall customer experience with our representatives and contractors were satisfactory. I had this refrigerator for only two weeks and the motor in the icemaker was gone. Their rep was very helpful in giving me timeframes about when the contractor would get out and when the icemaker would be replaced. The contractor assessed what was going on and he got the parts ordered. It took about five to seven days for the parts to get in and he came right out and explained what he would be doing. Then he gave me suggestions on setting it and he set it for me. He also told me what possible other problems could happen and how to avoid that from happening by setting it on certain temperatures. He was very nice and he talked through everything.
I’ve been satisfied with American Home Shield. Everybody who I talked to was very cordial and very helpful. American Home Shield has been really working with me on items that I've had. We had an air conditioning leak. We found submitting the claim to be challenging because it was truly an emergency call but American Home Shield was not able to get anyone to us within the same day. But the reps were friendly and I felt they were putting all effort necessary in trying to get someone here. And once the air conditioning contractor was able to come, he did highly professional work and he was very courteous and polite.
But for a 24 hours service, same day service is almost impossible. I feel like there are enough contractors out there that if American Home Shield could contract with more people, that same day service could be possible. Also, I had to do an appliance replacement during one of my experiences with AHS and I found it to be very hard impacting on me. If I look back a couple of years ago, I made 15 to 20 phone calls trying to get my appliance purchase situation resolved. And while it ended well, I felt like American Home Shield part of it would be better in accommodating their client.

They will not replace my inside 2600.00 and I can't pay that so they won't replace my outside. I am stuck without air. I had to buy a window unit to try to stay cool. That is why I purchased the plan. Not happy at all. I have contacted the Attorney General. I paid my deductible but still no air. :(

American Home Shield has saved us money because there’s a lot of the stuff we’ve had done since we’ve had the home warranty and it definitely helped us out. We’ve had a couple issues recently and one we’re still trying to deal with. We had a leak underneath our sink and they had to replace the pipe ‘cause it was an old iron pipe that was rusted through and it was leaking. It got the drywall on the back of it and the back of the underneath the sink wet and they had to pull that out in order to replace the whole pipe.
I’ve done some of the claims online, but this one was tied to the other and we were told that we should not have to pay the service fee, and so we had to go through a different way. There’s no other way to communicate with them except to put in a service request, which charges you another fee. It’d be easier if we had another separate e-mail we could contact them about something like that or another number. But, when my husband asked about a different contact information, they didn’t have any to give him.
We’ve had to try to contact AHS to replace the drywall and we’ve had to wait on the phone to reach them. We’ve tried to call and had to wait for an hour or more for them to get on there and then we were told, “Oh, we’ll call you back.” It’s taking days to get a callback or we’ll have to call back and we’re not too happy with that right now. Other than that, the reps from AHS have been pleasant and we haven’t had any issues with them. It’s the wait time mainly but I know that there’s a lot going on too ‘cause they said something about all the hurricane and I understand that going on.
We tried to call the plumbing company. They said, “Oh, no. You have to call them.” We called. We had to wait and then they were like, “Well, we have to find out because they didn’t say anything about this.” They had to go back to have the plumber come back out and measure and call them back and this has been for a few weeks we’ve had to deal with this issue. Now they don’t have anyone in the area that can do the drywall for us so they told us we need to find someone and we have to pay them and then they will reimburse us.

My hot water tank wasn't getting hot and it kept breaking the circuit where to click on and off. I called it in with AHS and they came out the next day and were able to get another hot water tank within 48 hours. The contractor was very knowledgeable with everything that he was doing. He let us know that we caught the problem just in time because it was on the verge of bursting, where it would have caused more damage than what we had originally. He was explaining things and answered all my questions because I was clueless on the way the new hot water tank looked than the one I had. He brought it to my attention that over the years the models had changed. He even called back to check on everything. It was an excellent experience overall. I would definitely keep American Home Shield on my team and try to recruit other people to come aboard because the service is great.

Our most recent experience with American Home Shield wasn't the most positive. We had scheduled to have plumbing problem fixed and I paid for the warranty. When they came out to do the service, they didn't do everything they were supposed to do at their first visit. I called to ask for them to come back out, but somehow the appointment got cancelled and so did the payment. It was like a whole big mix-up. Then a couple of days later, I rescheduled and they came back out. Needless to say, it took quite a few days and it turned out that I had a leak that had been going on for a while. My husband said that when we had a problem with the toilet a month ago, the guy that came out twisted some little thing to have more water and put new flappers in. But one of the toilets, he didn't clean the old debris from the other flapper. The old flapper was what's causing this to leak a little into the tank.
I called on a Thursday, and I was going to have to wait until Tuesday for somebody to come. I kept asking the plumber saying, "I understand that you're going to take time to come, but there's a lot of damage still going on. I need this water shut off." She told me that she was going to have somebody else call me and never called. We thought we could turn it off because we turned a valve, but then when we came back, we saw the water was still running. Then they had called on Saturday to say that they will come on Sunday and that they would send somebody else out to help turn the water off. It took a lot of doings and then finally somebody came on Sunday.
I've got all this damage there that could have been avoided had they just sent someone or told me where to go or what to do. It was kind of frustrating and I wasn't happy. There was another leak in the toilet in the same part that they replaced when they came out the first time and they replaced it again. So I paid quite a few $75 fees because it's just the way their system is set up. I just feel like I've been paying a lot of fees and not getting good service. But it seems to be working fine now after the repair.
Also, the first time I submitted a claim I did it online not knowing that they don't give anything to you and don't have any place to write anything extras. So I wrote on there that it was a toilet. I didn't put toilet and plumbing at the same time. So when they came out, they said that the plumbing wasn't on the work order, so they would only address the toilet because I put it in on the computer. From then on, I would have to sit on the phone 45 minutes or more waiting to speak to someone because I realized that I can't do anything online even if it's for a quick fix. The claims reps were courteous and professional though. But they should try to make the website a little bit more user-friendly so that you can put more information on there, and won't have to sit on hold for so long.
Also, with the service vendors, I would like them to be able to work directly because the people that came out the second time were awesome. If I would have another plumbing problem, I'd like to be able to have the same person come back, but from what I understand, that's not always the case. You have to go by whatever is in their system.

We filed an online claim with American Home Shield for our air conditioner but I didn’t hear back from anyone until I received a call from them while I was at work. I couldn’t answer but they left a callback number. So I called back and was on hold for 45 minutes before I spoke with anyone then gave them the information. I was told they will call me back to tell me who they got. I haven’t heard from them so I called again that afternoon. This time, I was on hold for 2 hours only to be told that they couldn’t find someone to service my air conditioner and I will have to look for somebody to service it. I was being transferred to another department when the call got disconnected. When I called back, the wait time is more than 1 hour so I just waited until the next morning to talk to them.
I was on hold again for 45 minutes before I was able to talk to someone. They said, "We're still trying to find someone. We'll call you back within the next few hours and let you know." They finally called back and said, "We can't find anyone, so we have a program where you can find someone and go through the process of pre-approval. And then, you pay the bill, and we'll reimburse you. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in?" We have no choice. Now, I'm trying to find someone to come to my house to fix the air conditioner and it's been five days without air conditioning. And I'm very unhappy about paying the monthly fee and getting crap service. I'm certainly not going to recommend them to anyone. It’s disappointing and irritating.

I was waiting on the phone forever when I submitted a claim with AHS for my air-conditioning unit. It took two weeks for them to get somebody out here to fix it and I almost got an air problem for about two months. Also, the contractors came here six times to fix it. When they first came out, they said they needed to go back to American Home Shield to get them to approve the repair. When they came back to fix it, something else was going on and they said they had to get AHS to approve that too. My AC is finally working now but not 100% and my room is not that cool like before.
In the past, AHS has been pretty good. I used to call them and they sent somebody out who fixed things right up. But it was different with my last claim and this is the second time I had to get my air-conditioning fixed. Last year, the same thing happened. I had to get the same service where they had to get Freon to put in there.

My daughter-in-law spoke very highly of AHS. They've ended up having their dishwasher replaced and had worked on their furnace. I filed a claim when my burner went out and I'm a little disappointed that they can't get here at least by the next day. Waiting a couple of days, to me, seem a little long. Maybe they need to hire more people. It could be a lot of things and I'm not going to discontinue it because it takes two days for them to come out here. Also, I think $100 is a little much just to come out and look at something.
The contractor seemed to know what he was doing. I have laid my arm on the burner. It gets pretty hot. Another thing is on each side of the stove on the front panel, there are two little red lights that indicate that either the burner is on or the burner is hot. They fell down, somewhere where the timer is. I was going to ask him if he could just pull them back but I think he misunderstood it. Since it wasn't in the work order, he couldn't. But overall, I've been satisfied and the only thing is I wish they could narrow the time frame down a little bit.

It was very easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. You just do it online. However, speaking with them online was not easy. I had to call them a few times about different things and the wait time was about an hour. They need more people because it's ridiculous to be held up that long. American Home Shield doesn't pay their contractors enough to get the best.
My washer was leaking and then the door switch was broken. The tech came to fix it and he said that he didn't know why the door switch was broken. He said that he never had trouble with the door switch. And then, he couldn't get the door open and then they sent the wrong door switch. Whoever they get the parts from it wasn't American Home Shield. Other problems developed and the tech had to come back a few times. I've never had somebody come back so many times with some issues in the 35 years that I've been a homemaker. It took three weeks for them to fix everything. But the tech was good, communicative and pleasant to deal with. We have another issue that we're working on and they don't have any contractors that work on our type of heat system. So, they're giving us permission to use an outside contractor.

American Home Shield sent a company that was not up to standards to repair our air conditioning. The repairs they did were completely the opposite of what would be to my satisfaction. I had to call American Home Shield back multiple times and notify them of our dissatisfaction. But the regular reps that I talked to did not listen to me. I kept on telling them that we live in Florida where it's very hot, we don’t have AC and that the repairs that were done here were not adequate. I had to escalate the matter to the president's office and one of the president’s assistants answered, their people started listening to us.
Finally, they called another company out, which came and repaired the AC the way it was supposed to be repaired. Corrections had to be made and parts needed to be replaced to make the AC work efficiently again. AHS also reimbursed us a little bit of cash for some Freon that was used in the repair. The whole ordeal took three weeks. I've had three homes with AHS which spanned a timeframe of 25 years, but I have moved my account with someone else because I'm not prepared to go through what I experienced again. I’m not recommending them to anyone either. I used to recommend them to everyone and I was very satisfied with them until this experience happened.

There were multiple appliances on my work order and when the agent set up one call for one company, they set up for one appliance. When the company came out, they said they didn't get the other two appliances, so they couldn't work on them and I had to call American Home Shield back. I submitted a claim for a microwave and it's not clear on my policy that the countertop or the built-in is covered. Since I had a countertop unit, the company recorded it as a countertop and AHS did not approve it for repair. On the same work order, I also had two refrigerators that needed to have ice makers repaired and the disappointing thing is I called in and stayed a long time because when I book a service trade online, I can't specify the number of units, the issue or anything else.
If there was a problem with my claim, the dispatch person should have told me that upfront, but American Home Shield approved the work and the contractor came out and fixed the two ice makers successfully. However, AHS called and said that I have a $157 bill due for payment on one of the ice makers. It's been very frustrating for both contractors and homeowners. The service provider said it took AHS too long to respond to their question and there aren't any other means other than to call them. When I sent an email through their customer support line, no one ever responded and every time I call, it takes an hour and a half to two hours. Plus, one call is insufficient because the documentation isn't thoroughly done and I have to call back multiple times for the same issue. I had to call in three times to make sure AHS knew that the microwave was being fixed and two refrigerators have been fixed.
I've been complaining to American Home Shield about their services. I paid double on our policy because the size of our home means that we have two kitchens and I'm having so many problems with AHS. They're charging me stuff that should not be charged for coverage and I have to dispute with them all the time. It's really a stupid company, and that's how bad it is. I came to the point where I can't recommend them or where I want to sue them for negligence. They have the worst system, customer service and followup and they are incompetent. As an owner or contractor, I need to have this policy for my homes so that I can sell it to customers. I'll start looking for other home warranty companies.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since December 2016. They have great coverage, but just enough to be inconvenient and the price of the service call is affordable. However, AHS only provides band-aid fixes. They do not ensure long-lasting repairs. My most recent claim with them was for my HVAC unit. It’s been a problem ever since we bought the house and this most recent service call on it makes the fourth since December. Different technicians had come out to service it, but we've all gone through American Home Shield. The last contractor who came was wonderful and since the repair, the unit has been exemplary.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my refrigerator door that was rotted out on one side. It got rust on the door and water coming out of it was not clean. It needed to be replaced but AHS will only replace the door. It took me a long time to submit a claim. They don’t answer the phone. I hold at an average of 40 minutes. If they call, they transfer me to somebody who might be the wrong person or from the wrong department. They even may not pick up the phone and then I have to hang up and call back and wait for another 40 minutes. If I don’t get it online, I won’t get anybody. The contractors sent by AHS came and said what they needed to say, just like the man who came out for the refrigerator. He knew that it needed to be replaced. But he can’t tell me that because he needed to hear what AHS was going to do and which was what he was going to report to me.
For someone who doesn’t have anybody who could repair stuff, having AHS gives me a fair chance of getting ripped off because if I do the contract in the street, I wouldn't know know anything about it and I can't reach back to them. But I have been with American Home Shield since 2006 and I can pay for a new refrigerator with all the money I paid them. As soon as I can, I’m going to discontinue with AHS. I’m done with them.

Even after he came back, he explained everything and showed me the parts. He was good and very clear. Whoever the contractor that they contract with, they're very knowledgeable. They're clear on what they're doing and they tell me prior to and after what they’ve done. They keep going up on my yearly payments, but that’s to be expected. Otherwise, I'm fine with them. They're an excellent company to work with all the way around.

Took me 2 hours to reach somebody, and when got them they just admit they do not know better and no way to talk to their manager or somebody else. No possibility to discuss and repair if you do not agree with their decision. In my case a previous service done through Home Shield (by previous homeowner), did not tie correctly one of the taps (I find out this later on) and AC were losing gas. When I called for service same company send a tech. They deemed that AC has to be replace and try to sell me a new AC, and Home Shield waive all their responsibility as pre existing condition, refusing to cover the service. So I called another AC repair for second opinion, in just few min. they find the leak at the tap near to compressor, just tie it (I was watching him during leak detection and repair) and filled the gas, and everything start working.

The ice dispenser in my refrigerator wasn't working, so I filed a claim with AHS online. The tech called within two hours and he was here the next day. He came in and fixed it and it was very smooth. We also had a faulty furnace, so we had a new furnace installed. This time, it was a different contractor who took the job. It took a little longer because he is a one-man operation. It took close to two weeks before we had service done on it. That process could have been a little quicker in my estimation, but once we're in contact with him, he did an excellent job. AHS provides good service overall. I’ve been with them for two months and I’m very happy with it so far.

I saved up a number of plumbing stuff before I called AHS. I had a drain and three faucets that were being a problem. I also had a serious leak in a separate pipe. Submitting a claim has not been easy. I spoke to representatives and they’re good. The contractor came out quickly in the instance of the emergency pipe leak, but they missed site and then caused a lot of problems. They finally came and fix it, but things would’ve been a lot better if they got it right the first time. But the company is not user-friendly at all. They don’t want me to talk to anybody, request anything and communicate with me.
The company often told me that they won’t serve me anymore because I am persistent and annoying to them on the phone. They’re kicking me out and won’t let me renew my contract because I used them. I waited long enough on the phone over months, got them to fork out $1,000 for my broken refrigerator and they wanted me to go away. In general, American Home Shield is not easy to deal with and it’s impossible to get people on the phone. I only used them because it’s who we had when I bought the house, but I’m going to find another warranty company. I’m very dissatisfied and I wouldn’t recommend them.

We have our lake house insured with American Home Shield for appliances and the experience has been frustrating, time-consuming, terrible customer service. If I call in a claim, I wait a minimum of an hour to talk to an agent. They make us wait and it's intentional. I usually just leave them on the speakerphone and they always have the same recording saying they have unusual call volume and it has been that way for the last two years. They leave the same recording on and try to wear people out to the point where if I was not determined as I was, I would never make a claim. I plan on 5 hours from start to finish for every claim. Even though I can spend many hours, there tends to be some type of resolution once I get in and work through the system.
There have been times where American Home Shield performed as expected. But most of the time it's a service issue where it comes from the customer service department or part of their protocol that has the hoops. They do not make it easy and they do not want people to make a claim. There are other times that they've been fair. But their customer service stinks because of the long wait, the response, failing to call back when they're supposed to, and that people fail to show up when they're dispatched.
I have complained before about them and all they said was, "Gee. I'm so sorry." They claimed it was because of a wave of calls that come in. And recently, they say it's because they have had a huge number of people that are affected by hurricane Harvey, even though a lot of the people don't even have houses left. But if people would call their customer service number, I guarantee that they'll wait a minimum of an hour to talk to a person. I know other people that had the same problems.
Then if I go online and start to request, AHS randomly assigns a contractor. I can't designate even a known good contractor in our area that's part of their group. People have to randomly take who AHS assigns. It's Sears on a rotational basis and AHS claims that it's because they're up in the queue. But I'm suspicious and maybe it's some agreement between the two of them. Sears' appliance division is terrible and they overcharge for parts and for the service calls.
For our last claim, AHS sent two individuals out. One was Sears, which we had cancelled the service when we found out they were coming, and the other was the appliance company that we've dealt with for the last two years who does a good job. We ended up with two service call bills and when I called to complain, they said they didn't know how it happened and then tried to say it was for a different appliance. We've had issues on more than one occasion where they sent multiple contractors out, and then tried to charge us multiple times for two contractors for the same appliance repair. Also, we've had appliance issues where they guarantee the replacement of the appliance as the part can't be found or due to the age. And we've had several experiences where even though the appliance was only eight years old, they couldn't find the part and we ended up settling for a used part put into the unit, which may or may not last a long time.
Michael,
Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your concerns. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding your overall experience. A social media specialist will follow-up with you as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience.

The bad side of it was we’d requested a plumber and we finally just got so pissed off with American Home Shield not sending somebody out that we just got screwed and we paid for that out of pocket ourselves. Though AHS somebody, they wouldn't respond. Our overall experience would have been better if they just had more reliable contractors working for them.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my air conditioner. They got our financing done and got it replaced. The contractor sent was good. However, I’m not exactly familiar with the process of what they do cover and if something like that has to be completely replaced. I’m still a bit foggy about that. From a general perspective, my understanding was that if something breaks and it’s not fixable then they would replace them and in my case, they weren't going to cover very much of it. Still, my experience with AHS was good.

The recent claim I had was disastrous. I was without air for 12 days and I ended up buying an air conditioning unit. I called in and made a claim and American Home Shield sent out Air Time. They came out and got the air-conditioning working. 31 days later the air stopped working. I contacted them and I was put on hold for a long time. I finally got a hold of them and they sent another company. The guy came out and while the unit was frozen, he told me that there was nothing he can do now. He left and didn’t say when he was coming back. We found out that the unit was a block of ice that melted all over my floor. I had to call them back and I didn't want this original company back so they gave me a new company, United Air.
United Air came out and the guy said there was a problem from whatever the previous guy has done. He said we needed a part. I am Facebooking them because it seems when I reply to them in Facebook they don't like that so they're more inclined to respond. Each day I would go and remind them of the days passed and I would be told, "Well, there's nothing we can do." They’ve ordered the part and they would not pay for the expedited service. I was told that was not part of their agreement. I waited five days. It happened on a Friday and the guy said we'd have to order the part at 1:30. He went in and out of his car because the house was now measuring 90 degrees. I couldn't stay in the house and I had to move with my dog to my son's house. I had to make arrangements to travel back and forth to work from my son's house.
Called them Monday morning to find out what the status was on the part. They couldn't order the part on Friday at 1:30 and it would have to wait till Monday to be delivered. Again, no air. American Home Shield would get an update from me daily. I found a nice little Facebook page called "I hate American Home Shield." I got the number of a local rep and called her and she suggested getting an air conditioning unit. Her name was Teri and she told me to put the unit in one window and just stay in that room. My unit is in my bedroom with the leakage coming out of the unit because there was a crack in the pipe under the floor which American Home Shield would not cover. The water had been leaking from behind there to the point where the base boards peeled away from the wall. I was told this was secondary damage that it's not covered.
It took long for the part to come in but American Home Shield wouldn't pay for that expedited part. The guy from United Air came and told me to put Freon in there. American Home Shield pays $10 a pound. The rate for Freon for that machine was $150 a pound and I had to put three pounds in there. So with their nice little $50 discount, I had to pay $420. The latest call from American Home Shield was that I owe them $75 service charge which needless to say I did not pay. They called and said looking into their records, I would be responsible for the $75. Now they have not returned that call to ask where the payment is. I take it they got the message that they're not getting the $75.
I was told they would not replace the unit and the tech that came out said the unit is 15 years old. The whole point of keeping American Home Shield the last 11 years paying the annual fee is that when something like this would happen, I will be covered. As long as the unit can continue to be band-aided, they would not pay for the new unit. What ended up happening was I had to purchase a brand new air conditioning unit that they would not cover. Also, their customer service was horrendous. It's an oxymoron to call it customer service. Their phone calls were put on hold for 25 to 50 minutes. I would hate for anyone else to purchase a home warranty from them. I would not recommend them to anyone.

It was pretty quick and everything has worked perfectly ever since. It was well worth $75 because I’m sure it would’ve been way higher to have to pay somebody to come out. The sellers of the house actually bought the home warranty and I’m glad they did.

It's a 30-minute wait time to talk to somebody. Nobody picks the phone up. I get emails from them about their service being complete and I respond by saying, “Call me at this number” but no one calls. The contractor did fix the leak adequately, but I would like somebody to call me so I can get my wall repaired. This is the first time I submitted a claim which I did online. I've done this at least about five times and I've given up.
I signed up for an annual contract with American Home Shield. It covers appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioning units, washer, dryers, and etc. I haven’t had problems with any of those except for the air conditioning in the upstairs area. I called American Home Shield when the problem started. They said they would send a representative out and he would give me a call before coming. He never called, so I contacted American Home Shield and they assigned me another service contractor.
The second contractor came and did a nice job. They were a very reputable family-run firm. They were professional and courteous too. I was pleased with their response and their knowledge of how to correct the situation. The air conditioning unit worked for about eight months before I got a problem with it again. I called American Home Shield and they sent the second contractor out. Apparently, there was Freon leakage. They took care of that and the air conditioning worked fine again. But I’m concerned that in the long run we might need to replace the unit because of its age, that’s why I wanted to know about my coverage with American Home Shield.

We had a microwave incident and there’s this one company that AHS used and I tried to get AHS not to send that guy because he was supposed to repair my microwave but he never came and finished putting in the parts for the microwave. And the battle went on for over two years. Finally, I got to close it in and I bought a new microwave. They sent another company that finished the repair. My dishwasher was the same way, so I finally bought a dishwasher. I’ve also had work done on my air conditioner and had my washing machine replaced. The latest incident was I had a sink garbage disposal that was not working properly and a company came in and said it needed to be replaced. They replaced it, and they also fixed a leaky faucet, which was terrific.
However less than a month later, the disposal was not working correctly. I called AHS and the company came back out. They said that it was not working and that American Home Shield authorized them, to replace it again even though everybody knew that it was not working correctly. Apparently there were too many peels in it. It’s a garbage disposal and it’s supposed to have them, so if it’s less than a month since it was installed and it’s not working correctly, then it would seem like it could be replaced again because they are giving faulty equipment. But when the person from AHS called and when I told her what happened, she said it didn't make sense. She called me back and said they won't replace it. The contractor said AHS won't pay for it, but if I get the contractor to fix it without the AHS coverage, it’s gonna cost $500. I said yes.
When I explained this to my husband, he said that’s insane because many years ago, we paid $100 for the disposal and then $80 for the plumber to replace it. Whatever the charge back system that American Home Shield is using, apparently it’s making these folks overcharge or try to make up what they have to charge. I'm paying AHS to help me not have ridiculous costs, not to have contractors who are nickeling and dimeing me so that they can make up for whatever system AHS is using. I know somebody else who has AHS as well and her air conditioner was out altogether and the unit replacement that the AHS contractor gave her was $500 more than somebody else she got.
AHS uses this veiled threat of not covering the issue and I'll have to work with the folks who put it in, and these folks are giving me a better price and a guarantee. My other issue is how long I have to fight with AHS about my system and equipment. Once it’s worn out, it’s worn out. If they send a repair guy five times to fix my dishwasher and it’s still not fixed, there comes a point where it’s over even if the people keep saying it’s just terrible. But I've been with AHS for several years and the contractors have always been wonderful and professional. They've done really good work, even the plumbing guy. It was just one crazy incident about the garbage disposal, but everything else he did was wonderful. The air conditioning guy was great and the guy from the washer and dryer was really interesting. I've had good experiences and bad with AHS. The good is good and the bad is horrible.

I called American Home Shield for a repeat visit for my washing machine. The person that I talked to and the contractor were excellent. However, the contractor hasn’t fixed it yet. He said he needed to order a part so he's got to come back out. I also had an AC unit repaired last year. They didn't replace the whole unit. They just replaced the compressor. So, now, I got a new compressor in there with the other parts. The actual unit is old and the compressor is the most expensive piece which didn’t really make a lot of sense to me. And then, the compressor went out again this year and there was only a year warranty on it. So now, I'm pretty much back where I started. I got to seek American Home Shield's approval to order a new AC unit before it gets hot again rather than to replace the compressor again. But the overall experience with AHS has been pretty good.

American Home Shield is not as responsive as they used to be. You have to hold a very long time even when you call back. There was one night that I held for over two hours. And then when I finally got somebody, they hung up. So, then I asked the rep the next day if that call was logged and she said it wasn’t. And then they encourage you to use the website, but it doesn’t explain every issue, so you still have to end up calling for a customer service rep.
I wish they would answer the phone a little faster and that the website would be a little more intuitive. Also, communication is hard on the front-end, but the contractors are fine. With that, they could train the agents. Even if they look up the problem, it takes them about 20 minutes to get back on the phone. And it's not like they're looking for a ticket or the next available vendor. They're just overwhelmed with phone calls. But they are very friendly once I get a hold of them.

When I first called AHS, they sent out a company and it took a week for them to get here. The girl that did it, spent 10 minutes fixing or putting some capacitor on the unit. That didn’t fix it. I called again and it was another week before another guy came out and he was a Lennox salesman. He was trying to sell me a new unit for $8000 and I said that I’ll think about it. I’m a 100% disabled veteran on social security and VA money, and I’m taking care of three grandkids. So, he said that he’ll have his secretary call me with a plan but he never did. I called AHS back and told them that they still haven’t fixed my AC and it’s been three weeks now. So, they sent a guy out and he knew what he was doing. He fixed the air conditioner. It was working good for a week and then it just quit. It started making this squeaking and howling sound on the unit outside.
So, I called American Home Shield again and for the fourth time, somebody came out. There are two guys who came out from a different company. They said that the problem is I have a three-ton unit inside and a two-and-a-half-ton compressor outside. The compressor is working twice as hard than it should be. If it was reversed and we had a three-ton compressor outside, a two-and-a-half-ton unit inside, there would be no problem. With the law changing in 2020, if we go ahead and put the new type of freon in there, it would be counterproductive because come 2020, they’d have to change it anyway.
So, they asked what kind of credit I have. It was pretty good and so they called and I was approved through my Wells Fargo, American Home Shield. They come in here with the new unit which was three times as big as the one that was outside. They took the old one out, put the new one in, hooked everything up, started the unit up, and you can immediately feel the difference in the temperature. It wasn’t like any and it wasn’t suffering. It was pumping nice, cool, air.
The lady from AHS who took care of me was absolutely professional, kind and knowledgeable at what she was doing. They didn’t make me feel like I was just paying money out to get some half service. They were genuinely concerned. I’ve been with AHS for a long time. I was paying $40 a month for a $40 service call, then it went to $50 and now it’s $75. They also fixed my microwave, electricity, plumbing, replaced my refrigerator, replaced my washer two times. I have nothing but praise for American Home Shield. It’s cost-effective to keep my house running smooth. I couldn’t do it by myself, without their help. I’m very pleased. At first, it was difficult but they resolved the problem very professionally.

The most recent claim we had with American Home Shield was about a defect in the air conditioning pump. The AC unit was working but there was a problem with a leak. Apparently, the previous owner of this house had done some work to redirect the drain from one of those machines. They had put a little pump and opened a hole into the pipe that was draining the water out of the house. But water was backing up through that hole and, since the machine is in the attic, a leak was created in the ceiling and came through to the second floor bathroom.
Filing the claim was very easy to do through their online system. But AHS wasn't very clear about their sending a second tech for a second opinion and they didn't tell us that. So, when the second tech showed up, we thought he was from the first company coming in to make the repair, but we found out that he was from a second company. Other than that, the techs were fine and very professional. The first company actually sent a text message saying they were on their way and gave me an estimate on when they were going to be here. The second tech said he was coming on Wednesday morning and he showed up as he had said, and that was very good.
When the tech came in for the repair, he showed us what he was going to do and how he was going to do it, and he was very thorough about that. I was in a conference call for work so I couldn't go up to the attic with him, but he took a picture and showed me what he had done to fix the leakage. But he said that he had only put a temporary fix on the problem. We were to have the situation inspected and it would not pass inspection.
He said that the source of the problem is that the pipes were clogged and he was going to leave the claim open with AHS. What we want to do with AHS now is pursue the next step which would be for somebody to come and unclog those pipes, but I haven't heard about that from them. Nevertheless, they've been very good overall, although the communication process could be better. They're hard to get a hold of and there are usually very long wait times. But once you've talked to somebody, they're quick to take action and do something about the problem.

We recently submitted a claim online with American Home Shield due to a water leak that was causing damage. Getting a claim service was easy, what’s hard was getting it expedited. When I talked to the plumber, he couldn't come in 24 hours. But he could come if we expedited it through American Home Shield. That would mean I’d have to call. And unfortunately, with American Home Shield, I’d be on hold for about an hour and a half.
About an hour and a half, while I was on hold, the plumber pulled up to my driveway. He already put me on the schedule once I talked to him and just said I needed to contact American Home Shield. So right then, I got through and we got everything situated. The leak was coming from the bathroom on the second floor, we thought that was it. Something was wrong with the tub and he fixed it, then he left. Two hours later, I went back downstairs in the garage and we could see the leak coming again. So I turned off the water, contacted him and he came back again the next day. He then figured out where it was and got it set.
My contract with American Home Shield says that they will cover or contract with someone to cover up the walls or put a new drywall on it to fix up the holes made during the plumbing repair. They are to have it in a ready position so I can just paint over it. Now, I still have a few holes in my garage ceiling and a hole in my bathroom. I called AHS back after it was all set and I’m still waiting to hear from them to get everything finalized.

I submitted a claim for my AC with American Home Shield. Everything is automated. So, as soon as I called, they assigned a vendor and then, they called me and fixed an appointment. The contractors, they don’t interact much. They detect the problem and take it from there. The most recent issue was for the AC. There was one contractor assigned, he came and fixed it and took some money saying that it won’t be covered. I paid out of pocket. But it was not fixed. I called American Home Shield and they sent another contractor. And, again, the same thing continued. He fixed it and then it didn’t help. So, he had to come back again. I hope it’s fixed today, otherwise, I have to call.
I would like to think American Home Shield has taken care of this AC especially because they assigned different contractors. I wasted a lot of money and it was a lot of trouble. It could’ve been handled with more efficient guys like Sears. AHS is good with certain items like showing guidance but most of the items are not clear looking at the contract. Most of the items may be covered by basic plans, but in the details, we may not know.

Our air conditioner quit working so we called in. When I was trying to call in my air conditioner problem in the terrible heat, I had to be on hold for one hour and 24 minutes. I didn’t give up because we needed to get an air conditioner. The next day, AHS expedited it. They got somebody out on a Thursday. They determined we either had to have a new compressor or a whole new unit. Either way, we’re going to have to pay quite a bit of money. If we got the compressor, we had to pay about $400 for Freon. If we got the new unit and paid to get the old unit taken away.
Friday, midday, they called to say we were going to be getting a compressor. However, it’s going to take about ten days to get the new compressor. I said my husband has had a quadruple bypass and really can’t deal with heat. We’re in Wichita, Kansas where it’s very hot but no sympathy for that. We still have not heard or seen the new compressor.
The previous claim we had was on the hot water tank. I had paid my $75 directly to the company and they did not hand it over to American Home Shield. I had proof that I paid it but they still debited it out of my account. Other than that the companies that they have sent out all seemed to be pretty good and took care of what needed to be taken care of. But American Home Shield has been very uncaring about our situation.

The freezer fan of my refrigerator was making noise and there was ice at the back of it. I filed a claim with AHS online and didn’t have any difficulties. The contractor was great. My only complaint was my refrigerator was beeping and he said that the beeping would stop as soon as the freezer came up to temperature. But it beeped for several hours and didn’t stop. But as soon as I called and said it was still beeping, the tech came out immediately and played with it a little more to make sure it stopped beeping. Since then, it’s been fine.
A previous claim I had with them was on my stove and it was the third time that the same thing had happened. The first time that it happened, the contractor said that it was a design flaw in this stove and didn't even know if he could get the part. The second time it happened, I was told the same thing but they found the part. The third time, they still went after the part. The part was more expensive and was right on the borderline of replacing my stove.
This was over the course of three years that this problem happened. The third time it happened was this year and it took three times of them coming out, doing different things and trying to fix it. The error would only happen when the oven first heated up so after they did a repair, they couldn’t check to see if the repair had done anything. I had to wait until the stove cooled completely down and I turned it back on again. But it was something similar from the previous two years and they were being told that it’s a design flaw in the stove. Knowing that it was going to continue happening, I was surprised that American Home Shield had a repair person come up three or four times, trying to find something else wrong with it before they finally agreed to replace the stove. That was a waste of time, money and frustration.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. I’ve been with them for almost two months now. Three weeks ago I had a problem with a high frequency thermostat that went bad. I submitted a claim online and it was extremely easy. It took me two steps and everything was handled electronically which was a breeze. AHS also made it easy to schedule the service and I appreciate that. The service person that came out to do the service was excellent because you never know who you’re gonna end up with and it’s not always a good experience. He gave me notice that he was coming to make sure that I’m also there. He was on time and very professional, polite and patient too. He answered all my questions, gave me his analysis, and explained the mechanisms and workings. He got the work done extremely quick and the dryer so far has been doing good.

My refrigerator went out so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone but the first contractor they sent out didn't complete the work. The contractor told American Home Shield that they didn't get paid. That was weird so that made those contractors shoddy. It took us tons of calls to call AHS and let them know no contractor ever goes to anyone's house, does the job and doesn’t get paid. That's about a month and a half and AHS got it resolved but it was agonizing. Other than that company, all the contractors that have come out so far have been okay. AHS is one of the best and I'll continue to carry them over my property.

We’ve been with American Home Shield since July and had a couple of claims filed online recently. One was for our AC. Any time the temperature got over 90 degrees, the AC would trip the breaker. American Home Shield sent someone out, and they tried to fix something in the AC but it ended up not fixing the problem. So they had to come out again and reviewed it real quick. They said that it will have to go to an electrician to verify some further things because it is not the AC unit itself that's tripping. The electric people are coming out on Monday. So, it's been pretty quick turnaround for anything. I have really liked the contractors AHS sent so far. And my overall experience has all been pretty good.

I run a call center for one of the largest companies that provides rental homes in the US. If it is 90 outside we are there in 24 hours not 5 days. Now I am currently on hold for 50 minutes. I attempted to use the chat feature and was told no one was available. I called the 800 number. 30 minutes later I am still on hold and try the chat again.
This time I get through. The person whom I chatted with told me that they were looking for a new company as the one it was originally assigned to said it was out of their coverage. That company is 6 miles from my house. I said that was fine, when will I be contacted with the new company. The representative told me she had no idea, it would be when the dispatch found someone. The most ahs would offer as to replace my refrigerator was $2800. This was far less than they led me to believe they would pay when I purchased the policy. That said they were able to use their buying power to purchase the GE Monogram fridge that would normally sell for $10k for $5,800 so my net cost was about $3,000. I would now rate them a 3 star.
Original Review: Sept. 6, 2017
We have a GE Monogram refrigerator and it wasn't cooling. AHS sent a technician to work on it then the technician thought they fixed it but it still wasn't cooling the next day. It needed more thorough work than the other guy could do so AHS sent a different crew which was actually GE's repair group itself. But when they came out, they couldn't do it and said they needed parts. They told us they had to order the parts which were going to be shipped to us. We then told them when the box of parts came and we arranged to spend a day at home because it was a long job.
When they came back, they told us there were still missing parts and they had to order the parts again. So now we've wasted three days trying to wait around to get this thing fixed. Then the parts were on backorder for at least three weeks and we've had no refrigerator for at least a month. Every time we called up, they said it’s backordered until Monday, then if when we called Monday, they said it's backordered until Wednesday. When we called Wednesday, they said it's back ordered until Friday.
We're using a GE service person for a GE fridge who's trying to get GE parts and they can't seem to be able to find the parts. So I asked them at what point will they decide that we need a refrigerator if the parts are not available and backordered this much. Even though one day, they theoretically fix the fridge when these parts are available, it's not reasonable for someone to pay $1,000 for insurance and be out of a refrigerator for over a month when they have kids and school. So, we're totally frustrated with them.
It's also so annoying because every time we call, their reps tell us that they care so much about us and that our call is important to them, but it will be over a 30-minute wait. Then we have to wait for 45 minutes to an hour. If we do something else, we have to start all over again. They also said to try the chat option next time because it's quicker. But when I tried to chat, they said I was 8th in line and someone will be with me in 36 minutes. So, even with chatting, I had to wait almost 45 minutes and it's upsetting.
They also place the blame on hurricane Harvey but I've been calling them for a month about this and there was no hurricane the first three weeks or the last week of this problem. Their convenient excuse is now in Houston. But an insurance company should be prepared for something like that and they should get more people. I had my last conversation with them when I waited an hour yesterday and until now, our fridge is not yet fixed. Overall, their reps are nice people and are extremely well-trained in empathy but they suck in terms of service. If there's anything more that we don't want to hear is how much they understand how frustrated we are, but that's all we hear from them and they're very good at that part of the business.

Several years back, my water heater busted. It was almost 20 years old and American Home Shield had some people come out. I found out from the tech that American Home Shield actually owns this plumbing company. I was told that the tank wasn’t drained because it had rust coming out of it. I didn’t live here for the last 18 years and when rust starts, it doesn’t stop no matter how much it's drained. That cost me thousands of dollars because the plumber had to expand some tank in it and put the water heater in, all that on my dime 'cause American Home Shield didn't do anything. The lawsuit was brought against American Home Shield and they still came back and denied it.
Then, an element broke, so I called out American Home Shield and they take their fee that I agreed to, but the tech comes out and it takes forever. They put a new element in but in less than a couple of months, it busted again. I then went to a repair service, ordered a new element, put my own element in and saved more money than I would have if I paid my little deductible to them.
Recently, we had a pipe under the concrete break. American Home Shield sent a company out and I got a $2,600 quote to fix the leak, and AHS was only going to pay $500 out of it. The contractor company gave me the option to re-plumb the entire house 'cause there was polybutylene underneath, but that was $5,000. I decided to go ahead and spend the five grand because it's polybutylene, but AHS didn’t pay a dime.
Then there’s the air conditioning contractor. I paid my $35 and the contractor did whatever they needed to do with American Home Shield. In the beginning, they covered everything and then I reduced to the air condition and plumbing. I'm waiting for this 1990 air conditioner to go out and hopefully they'll cover it. Every year, I get a company out to do a service. If American Home Shield clients don't do that every year and if they’re not knowledgeable of that, American Home Shield will say they didn’t maintain it, and AHS won't pay for it. So, I'm maintaining it, paying them extra money, plus I'm paying them for this warranty. They never seem to cover anything. It's been a horrid experience.
The only reason that I'm staying with American Home Shield is that I had paid them for 13 years. The house came with the warranty and we kept AHS thinking that the air conditioning is going to go out. And by not backing out, I’d be able to recoup some of my money back when that air conditioning goes out and AHS covers it. As much money as I pay AHS, I could have put it in the bank, gained interest and have some leftover to pay for that. Overall I would tell others to not ever go with a home warranty company.

It was all scheduled and very seamless. The contractors came when they said they would. They also fixed things and if they didn't fix the whole thing, they would come back and do a follow-up without charging extra. Overall, the warranty has been useful and American Home Shield has been fine by us.

I hate calling American Home Shield. It always takes at least an hour to get them on the phone and sometimes, an hour and a half. It was good when I got someone on the phone though and they sent a technician right away. When I filed a claim for the water heater, someone was sent within 24 hours and the water heater was replaced.
My HVAC experience with them was just pure hell though. A contractor came out right away but he was really in a hurry and he said that I needed a leak test to even get me to file a claim because that was demanded by AHS so I said okay. He went out, opened the garage door, closed it, came back in and charged me $160 plus the $75 totaling $235. He wouldn't let me look for my checkbook so I gave him cash and he was out of the door. I ran after him because I wanted a receipt and he said it's on the counter. I ran back and it was only for $160. By the time I ran back, he was gone.
I called the company immediately and they said the technician was in the field and that they'll take care of it tomorrow but I never heard from them. I called them several times during the week, discussed it with them, and finally discussed it with the office manager. She said they'll send me back my $75. By then, I found out that American Home Shield does not require a leak test. I just had Freon put in there and I told them that. They said that I would get that back too. But she decided because I didn't go with them and I was really nice about it, to subtract the $75 because I didn't have proof that I paid for it.
She subtracted that from the $160 and sent me a check for $65 which didn't even make sense. I called back to discuss it with her and she said they would never charge that much for a leak test and they didn't have to refund me anything. When I asked how much the leak test was, she said $60. I said that it doesn't add up. After a month, she sent me another $20.
Also, I only got $1,600 from AHS even though my unit was 12 years old and it would require a different kind of Freon gas. Everything I read said to replace it but there was no replacing it. AHS was simply trying to replace the part. I have a friend that just did that and it's already not working. So, she had to go through that whole thing again.
I was out of air conditioning for 15 days in the hottest 15 days of the year and it was terrible. I had just moved in and I haven't had anything done. I didn't want to go through that experience again so I worked out the money, got a different contractor and got a new unit because I didn't want to go through that hell again. Otherwise, they'd be paying again and I'd be going through the experience again.
I understand that now that they have suspended this vendor from being a vendor for them but they've never notified me after I talked to them about this. The communication is horrible. I didn't want to call them back because that would mean at least an hour and a half on the phone. They also keep sending me something that says I owe $75 on my account for the service fee which I'd already paid twice to the HVAC company. After holding an hour on the phone to put in my claim for the water heater, they said I have the $75 hold. It wasn't paid at the time of service but I said it was. They said they now have a new policy. That's when I had to call the HVAC company and asked them to release that because they'd already taken that out of my check. So, I paid them twice and so, they did.
In addition, because I knew I wasn't going to deal with that contractor, I asked for a payout and that was on a Tuesday. I had to call back Thursday and Friday to see what was going on and they said I was in the queue. It would take another day or two. I called back Monday and find out that I'm not even in the queue because I had to wait to see what I was going to get for the payout before I could hire somebody else to do the job. So, if they put me in the queu, I could have gotten that probably a week earlier and had air conditioning a week earlier. The people that I was dealing with about that were horrible and incompetent.
My experience with AHS overall has not been good but it's getting better. The girl yesterday was very helpful. But I would never use this company again and would never recommend anybody to use it. If you don't have an HVAC problem, maybe it might be worth it if you still have that kind of time to spend on the phone. The customer service is very cheap. Minimally, they could get some customer service and they can have somebody answer their phones.

When I did, I said they should come up with something where they don’t put you on hold, that they call you back when you’re next in line. There’s been a couple of times where maybe it was around 20 minutes but the majority of times, it is a very long wait. Even so, AHS is very reputable, cost-efficient and every time I’ve had them, they’ve done their job. I have recommended them to quite a few people.

I had an air conditioning issue and when the technicians came out, they were professional and courteous. However, they had to come out multiple times because they did the wrong thing each time, but the air conditioner is fixed now and it has been fine. Overall, American Home Shield has been easy to work with and worth the money.

I have a leak in my swimming pool. I filed the claim with AHS over the internet and their site is very friendly. I go and next thing I know, I get a text saying that they got a company that's going to notify me within 24 hours. But the contractor, Three River Pools, never did for five days. So, I called them and they said they never got a notification. I called American Shield to notify them again. When it got through, the Three Rivers Pool guy showed up unannounced. He didn't call anybody to let us know he was coming. My wife was here and she didn't know what was going on. I was out of town. It's been a mess and he didn’t do what I needed him to do. He just came here, said that we need to this and that, and left. AHS did the air-conditioner for me, though, on my first call. That worked out just fine. They had an AC person come out, find the issue, clean it and put it back together. But overall, it was a difficult experience.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for the plumbing situation and for some electrical stuff which happened at the same time. For the electrical stuff, my ceiling fan went out and I had problems with my electrical bill but I got that taken care of. Also, my front porch light was starting to mess up and I was told that I could get that repaired. However, somebody called me and told me that I couldn't because it wasn't inside the house which was very disappointing.
I also had problems with the hot water tank. They sent this tech out from Buser Plumbing and I've never heard of him before. He came out and he told them he didn’t see anything so they did a second opinion with Budget Plumbing. They came out and they found the leak. They were telling me before that they couldn’t install a new hot water tank and that I will have to get this pressure regulator put on my water because the pressure was reading over 80. But then, they said that I needed a new water and gas line to heat everything before they would even install and the prices were so astronomical. The contractor said that I have to pay for it and American Home Shield will only cover for another hot water tank.
American Home Shield was really no help at all in that particular incident. They told me that they'll give me the money and I can buy my own hot water tank. But before they give me the money, they said that I have to go get the tank, submit the receipt to them and then they’ll reimburse me. I’m on disability and I don’t have $600 laying all out. That’s the whole reason behind me getting a home warranty program. Right now, I’m in the process of checking out some other home warranty companies because I might have to drop American Home Shield if I find something better. Then their prices go up every year. I’ve run into two home warranty places and they told me that the price will never change. I need somebody that’s going to be there to help me and not to try to hinder me.
They’ve been okay in the past but when it gets down to something that seriously needs to be done, they bail out. I know a master plumber and he’s been one for 40 years. He told me that he’ll help me and he won’t charge those extravagant prices. But, American Home Shield said that if I got somebody else to do the work and nobody that they recommended, then I would still have to go ahead and they wouldn’t let the people come out and put my hot water tank in because all the work is needed to be done by them. He said that’s just to make more money and that’s what plumbers do. It’s really not that expensive. All it is, is you get the part. It made me look at American Home Shield in a whole different side. I wouldn’t even recommend them. I’m paying every month faithfully and then $75 even for the service call to come out. The emergency was due to the fact that I had an infant and the weather outside was 105 degrees. The service technician showed up the next day and diagnosed that the AC unit had to be replaced. It has been about a week since the initial diagnosis was done and I am yet to get a status update from AHS. They say that they are still waiting for the diagnosis from the service tech. Meanwhile we have had to endure a week without any AC in the scorching 105 degree heat.

I have unfortunately had to place several calls regarding no cold air from air conditioning unit. Each time I have had to wait over an hour to speak with a representative. I am not being serviced properly as a customer should. I have had 3 companies come out to assess the problem and have had no results as of yet. It’s been 2.5 weeks and am still without a/c. When I asked to speak with a manager they tried to send me to the escalation department but no one was available to speak with me. I was then told that the department was closed. (On a Tuesday at 11am). The best the representative could do for me was to submit a form and have someone call me back within 48 hours. I live in Phoenix and AHS is unable to supply emergency services. Call centers are understaffed with no concerns for their customers.

Being without working a/c in a timely manner is unacceptable and not what we want our customers to experience. At American Home Sheild, we would like to rectify this issue for you. Please allow for us to turn this negative experience into a positive one. We will look into this and follow-up with you to take care of your concern. Thanks!

I've been a long-time customer of AHS, and once again, I've been pleased with their coverage and service. I had a toilet that unexpectedly broke in the middle of the night, cause unknown, probably due to wear and tear or an existing flaw in the porcelain. AHS set me up with a contractor within 24 hours, and my toilet was replaced for no more than the cost of my service call. The contractor was great, courteous, professional and timely and did a wonderful job. Without this coverage, my cost would have been at least $500 or more. For $100, everything was replaced, I got a brand new toilet and both AHS and the contractor did an excellent job addressing my concerns.
I've had other home warranties in the past that were virtually worthless, had no contractors at all to serving any type of issue, and the one time I was able to obtain coverage (dishwasher was no longer operational), they simply sent me a check for $170 (after already paying the service fee). This was for a high-end stainless steel interior Whirlpool dishwasher. Essentially, after deducting the cost of the service fee, I received $70 to replace a $600-$700 appliance, rather than even attempting to repair it (the water pump simply needed to be cleared of calcium deposits). AHS by comparison has been easy to deal with, I've gotten more than my money's worth and I certainly wouldn't be without it.

I had a problem with the air conditioning unit not cooling properly and when the technician came out he found that there were ants crawled up into the switch. They went right to work and it was taken care of within 30 minutes. Since then the air conditioning unit has been performing fine. I've had American Home Shield for a while and whenever I've had issues they take care of it right away.

We have been operating our air conditioning unit since the house was built in 1989. Then in 2011, the collection pan overflowed and caused one spot on the dry wall. We called American Home Shield and they sent Piedmont Mechanical in Loganville. They supposedly fixed that but they fixed the wrong thing. Then they kept making appointments and cancelling them. They also told American Home Shield that they were here but nobody was here. They started lying as well and tried to collect money from American Home Shield for work that they didn't do. So we've asked American Home Shield never to send them out here again and that’s how we ended up with AAction. They’re prompt and a little better than Piedmont.
For a while, nobody was living upstairs and we stopped using that air conditioning unit for a number of years until I came back in December, 2015. Last year, it overflowed again and started damaging the dry wall so we called AHS about three weeks ago. The reps we dealt with were courteous and professional. We had somebody else come out here to take care of the problem. They had to clean out the drainage line but it clogged again because of the same leakage. They repaired the clogged line and adjusted the fan that’s rusting out. The unit seems to be working alright now and so far, so good.
But we're trying not to push it too much for fear of having it overflow again. That pan is not supposed to overflow in the first place and it’s just in extreme cases that it doesn't have any condensation in it. So it's a problem with the unit itself. Also, it should not be a normal occurrence to have water in there but it turns out that pan’s busted. Overall, we're fairly satisfied with American Home Shield but now we get to worry about how we're going to repair the damage to the dry wall. As far as I know and based on our past experience, that's not covered by American Home Shield.

They've gotten worse over the years. I bought my first home in 1999 and I've had American Home Shield forever. They were great in the beginning. Now their clientele has grown and they are not able to service their clientele. They suck from a service standpoint. Based on my ridiculous experience the last time I had a service call, submitting a claim online was extremely easy but when I called them, I can't get anyone on the phone. I was on hold for over an hour which was ridiculous. And no one ever came to the phone so I eventually hang up.
Since I can't get AHS, I also tried reaching the contractor and it turned out to be a joke. They had a voicemail that was full and I couldn't leave a message. No one answered the phone and it was two hours later before someone called me back which was crazy. The last resort I had was try to do the chat so I logged in and no on ever came to the chat window. It doesn't make any kind of sense. Then the request stated that the service provider tried to reach out to me, which was not true. I've been sitting all day and no one called me or came to my house. They were just updating their system and they tried to reach me unsuccessfully.
I'm single and I can't fix things around my house. So they kind of had me in a situation and I didn't have an option but to deal with American Home Shield. At the time, the house was 110 degrees because my AC went out and it was out for 3 days before they got it fixed. But since the repair, there were no problems with its performance. Having said all that, I am still happy with the service and would even recommend them to people. I am satisfied because when things do go wrong, I'd rather pay for a $75 service call versus the $2,000 replacement fee for it.

When I first contacted American Home Shield, it was for an air conditioning problem. They sent an air conditioner guy from Myers. That company had an app in which I could track the technician on the phone. The app also showed if he’s waiting and how many minutes were there until his arrival. It was really neat. Everybody should use that. However, the tech ended up saying that the problem was not with the air conditioning but was an electrical issue. He said, “I think it’s a problem with the breaker panel because I can get it started, but then it will shut off.” So, I set up a service call with an electrician.
When the electrician came, he checked the breaker panel and found out everything’s fine. He went to check the air conditioner upstairs and saw that the switch that was on the panel was causing the problem. There’s a pressure twitch so when the panel was pulled up, it started to get down. Because the air conditioner guy did not find that, I ended up having to pay the $75 price. But everything works fine now. Also, both servicemen were very professional and pleasant. They handled themselves very well and were well-spoken and articulate too. Still, I’m very pleased with American Home Shield.
Don,
Although your service request was transferred to a different technician to further assist, we are happy to know that your a/c issue was resolved. We, at American Home Shield, are also glad to hear that newer technology helped track the vendors' location, especially so your services were not delayed. My AC was leaking. The water was backing up and causing the kill switch to turn on and kill the unit, and then the water was in the pipe so water was leaking out. I had to walk in from work and it'd be 85 degrees in my apartment. I live in South Louisiana, so it was really hot and I had to get American Home Shield to come out and take a look at it. So I went online and submitted a claim for the first time. Their website is easy to use and they were on top of it.
I claimed on a Friday and the contractor came on a Monday. He called me and told me that he was 15 minutes out and that he was on his way. He knew exactly what was going on and he went in there and blew the water out. Then he reconnected the PVC pipe and the AC started working fine. He said that what happened to my AC is pretty common in South Louisiana. He was probably out of my condo for about ten minutes and I haven't had any issues with the AC since he came. He was very professional and knowledgeable, which made the process a lot easier. Everything went great and I'm satisfied with my American Home Shield experience.

I recently had an issue and it took a while for a supervisor to call me back on it and I did not really appreciate it. Every time American Home Shield sends somebody to my house, I pay $75. And with a warranty, I feel like that shouldn’t have to happen. I was trying to get a repair on some electrical work and the person that they sent out had to rush through the work order. They have things they have to do too and a lot of customers, but I’m a customer also. The person should have tried to help resolve the issue that I was having right then and there. All he did was walk in my house, fix one outlet and then left and then they wanted to charge me $75 for it. I don't think it was worth $75. And then, they said I didn’t pay them. I’m trying to at least talk to somebody through customer service but it takes so long to get people on the phone. I tried to pay through their automated service and it won’t take my card. I’m still trying to pay it.
I have further electrical issues, so I had to reschedule another appointment with them and wait, and that was an inconvenience for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor. And it was supposed to be a 48-hour period for the supervisor to call me back and it was a week later that it happened. I should not have to wait a week when I pay with a yearly deal. Next year, I might reconsider AHS.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years now and the most recent claim I filed was for our dryer. It would come on but it would not cycle. I submitted it over the phone and I had a very long wait time of about 25 minutes and I wasn’t happy with that. But once I got a hold of their reps, they were very nice and polite to me. The contractor was a nice guy too. He met every appointment that he said he was coming. He also did what he was supposed to do. He put in a couple of different parts and thought he had the problem fixed but it wasn’t. He was persistent though. He then put in a computer board, but it wasn't still functioning right as the dryer would come on and then would shut back off.
He ordered another board. He said sometimes those boards come in and they could be bad. After the latest board was put in the dryer has been working fine. The repair took about three weeks because the contractor had to order the part each week and it would come in the next week. I’ve had other people sign up with AHS because I’ve had good experiences with them. Some of them haven’t had such great experiences as I've had but I've had good luck with AHS.

Like other negative reviews - AHS took a long time to answer phone calls. Some were nicer than others. I bought a house knowing that the AC unit was broken and could use AHS to help fix it (per previous homeowners) but when I called & got an open work order because AHS didn't have any AC companies to suggest in Maui, Hawaii. I called several AC companies and as soon as I told them I have AHS they said no. They said AHS requires the worker to be on the phone before they can work on it, but that worker won't know how much it would cost. Another company said they didn't get their money AHS from another customer so they will not work with AHS. They were willing to work with me.
I called AHS at least 3 times telling them that no one wants to work with them. I asked if they could suggest other companies that I could call (they provided no one). And lastly they said I can fix it myself and submit my receipt and possibly they might reimburse me. I don't want to be possibly reimbursed. I strongly recommend you need to have more support, more companies that will work with you in all states that you sell your warranty to. If you are a Hawaii resident, I strongly advise you to call companies and asked if they would work with AHS. I even had my realtor call an AHS sale representative but he/she did not answer my call. My realtor will not suggest AHS to other customers now. AHS might be good for other states but not in Hawaii. Do not buy AHS. Very disappointed customer!!!

Our old conditioner blew up and I filed the claim to American Home Shield by telephone. However because of our harsh schedule, it was two weeks by the time we got somebody else here. The contractor was from Muskegon and he was courteous and very informative. My husband asked him a lot of questions and he answered them all. He explained things and what he was doing, and also showed us what was wrong and what had happened to it. He was outstanding.
He had started working on the air conditioner but then he said there was nothing he could do and it had to be replaced. It was very hot when that Haier went out but we made it through it. The AHS representative called after she got the report from the technician and told us that we could choose different brands. We got the new Payne air conditioner put in. It worked out well and we’re very pleased with the home warranty.
American Home Shield is a great company. In fact, I am a realtor and I have sold so many of these home warranties of American Home Shield. I get a little card from Steve and he would tell me what my client had replaced and what kind of problem it was. So then I always call him and my clients have all been very happy with American Home Shield.
A couple of times I've had AHS on my house. It would last then I would sign up again. My daughter also bought a house in Cincinnati and I put an American Home Shield home warranty on it. She bought it near her birthday and every year for her birthday I always ask her what she wants. She wants another home warranty so we keep the home warranty up for her every year. This has been going on for years now and it’s such a peace of mind. She’s very happy with American Home Shield too.

I went online to submit a claim on a leaking faucet in a bathtub. I like how they set it up where I pay online for the trade fee because before I had to pay when the contractor came. It's good because I'm renting out my properties, and it was horrid trying to get the tenants to pay the trade fee and then reimburse them. I like that they made it easier. The contractor was good. When they called me, I explained to them that I was the landlord, but it was my property, and I gave them my tenant’s information and phone number. They contacted my tenant within 30 minutes of me giving them the information and then they set up the time with my tenant. They then went out and did the repair and they sent me a letter, letting me know what was done and when it was completed. Since then, the faucet’s not leaking anymore and everything is great.
American Home Shield is a great company. I've had the home warranty for at least five years and I haven’t had any issues when I needed services. It's a fantastic relationship and it gives me peace of mind knowing that by me living in a whole different state from where my property is located, I can count on AHS when something goes wrong to handle it accordingly. All around, it’s a great experience.
