My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the repair of an air conditioning unit. The interaction with the contractor was great but the interaction with American Home Shield was not. They denied about a half of the claim and I was transferred to their customer care center, who then promptly hung up on me. So, we came out of pocket about $500 on a repair because it was air conditioning and we needed to have that done. I’ve been with American Home Shield off and on for about six years but if I can avoid it, I would.

We tried our AC right away when we moved in but it wouldn't get cold. So we submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor they sent was good, and since the repair, the AC has been working well. Everything was good and the people at AHS were friendly and effective. They got all the work done in a timely manner.

I've always had good service with American Home Shield. The AC was leaking. When it started, I called right away and the reps were very pleasant and very efficient. When the first contractor came out he gave an estimate and I questioned. I called them again and then I called the insurance people again. And they took my questions seriously and pursued it and came up with the second contractor, which actually did the service. AHS should keep doing what they're doing especially when I dig questions to the first contractor. I was very happy with them. Most places don't listen to you but they did. The rep took a while to get back to me but she did get back to me.
The contractors were there right away after the questions were brought forward. They were very efficient in the evaluation. It took them quite a while to even get it done but then they stuck it out. They were very pleasant and no time was wasted. Afterward, they explained some of the difficulties and what was wrong. And then I asked them what I could do to improve the efficiency. He taught me what I could do and that was it. So far the AC is working fine.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield through the automated system and they let me know who was coming through my cell number. Two techs came and they were very good, professional, friendly and quick. The tech said that if it has been a big leak it might not have made much damage. But because it was a little leak and it was behind the wall we didn't know it was there so everything had to get soaked before it ran downstairs where we found it. It was a mess and we had to get our home insurance to work on that. But everything worked well. We’ve used American Home Shield so many times and we are really thankful that we have a home warranty.

The AHS reps were efficient, very professional and knowledgeable when I had the pump replaced on my washing machine. The tech was good too and he got the job done right the first time. AHS was timely and they kept me informed of what they were doing and what needed to be done. I’ve been with them for a number of years now.

I recently had a garbage disposal replaced. I was able to get American Home Shield with a phone call and submitting the claim was easy. What I usually do is I have a preferred vendor and I just call the vendor. I’ve had a few problems with American Home Shield in the past because my preferred vendor went off that program and American Home Shield wouldn’t let me have them. I was able to get that resolved by talking with the manager though and I have not had a problem with American Home Shield in recent years. They send a company out here for all my appliance repairs and the HVAC work and they always do a good job. American Home Shield is prompt, efficient, professional.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was in reference to our kitchen sink being clogged up. We scheduled the appointment through them and they sent out a contractor. The contractor came out and cleared the clog but I noticed that it still drained very slowly. We called to schedule their return and it turned into a bit of a nightmare when they came back. They were supposed to notify us 30 minutes in advance before they would show up but instead we had about a 10-minute notice. The tech came to the house and son answered the door. The tech asked for my wife but she wasn't there and he said, "Okay, they're going to have to call us." My father got there right as the technician was backing out of the driveway so he was able to stop the tech. The technician told my father that he went in and flipped the the garbage disposal switch and that we have to call the electrician.
The garbage disposal was never the issue plus the man never came in the house. He lied all the way around. I called the company and told them they needed to send the tech out back and that the garbage disposal had nothing to do with the the kitchen sink draining slowly. I went back and forth with them for about two hours and ended up leaving work to go home and take care of it. I finally got another woman on the phone and she sent somebody totally different out. He came out, re-ran the line and the sink drained. We hear gurgling in the pipes now which we never heard before but the sink drains. I'm satisfied that it's fixed but I'm unhappy with the unprofessionalism of the first contractor.

Horrible!! Horrible!! Horrible!! Horrible!! Horrible!! I am absolutely appalled by this company! It is the weekend and first "freeze" of the year. We got into the 30's last night and my heater never kicked in. The house got down into the 60's and it has barely heated up during the day. I submitted a work request online that said went through and apparently didn't. I called later the morning and got a ticket made from the call. The company they assigned us was closed at the time my ticket was opened and wouldn't be in till Monday. I called to have our ticket reallocated to another vendor and was told by Raven out of Georgia, that my situation didn't meet their criteria for escalation. The www.weather.com shows current temp outside as 59 degrees and the low's tonight will be 36 degrees. My house is 66 degrees at the moment.
Raven said she could put in for a call back (which takes 48 hours) - that makes no sense because we can't stay in this house tonight - or tomorrow night, and Monday a technician will be out. They say our situation doesn't warrant an escalation. I have no heater and the temperatures will be freezing tonight. I can do without an AC in heat, but not without a heater in cold. My child is too young to wrap in blankets. This is absolutely unacceptable. This is not the way to do business. Completely horrible that this company would refuse to transfer me to a manager, refuse to escalate, or do anything other than offer a 48 hour call back which puts us into a business day! Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!! If any management of this company isn't appalled by this and how they treat their customers they need new management!!

I was warned about this company. Now I know the truth. RIPOFF. We purchased a home, with pool. Pool pump motor not working, supposedly covered with extra premium for their deluxe pool coverage, so we paid the required $75 service call. I had heard their contractors will do anything to avoid covering a claim. TRUE. Pool contractor said he ‘thought’ wiring might have been chewed on by rodent. Called and sent pic to someone, came back and said yes, they ‘think’ it was rodents! And, what do you know, excluded on policy! RIPOFF. I will be following up with Dept of Insurance.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a very long time and I’m happy with their services. Every once in a while, I’ll get a service provider and they’re not in the control of AHS. I had an issue with my freezer when water from somewhere leaked into it and it started creating a big ice block in the bottom. I filed a claim online and it was very easy. However, the tech couldn’t fix the freezer the first time out. They diagnosed it and said that they'd come back but they didn’t. I needed to hunt them down to come back and it was frustrating. But I got it fixed and it’s finally done. For the most part, the people that AHS sends over are top notch. They fix what they say they're going to fix, and they're kind and courteous. I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend and I’ll continue to use them.

I have AHS for several months now. I've had their warranty before, then it lapsed and I just resumed service. I got a plumbing problem that started a couple of weeks ago and it got progressively worse. So I made the call and submitted the claim online. I requested service and almost immediately I got some kind of reply back. Then a service appointment was scheduled in less than 24 hours. The contractor who came out was professional and their reps came at the time that they said they would. Then they did the job, cleaned up after themselves and left. They cleared the drain and stopped the leak. So, they did what I needed them to do.

We had a sink that kept backing up and the toilet kept running so they're both plumbing but they're two different areas of the house and when I went online to submit the claim, that wasn't one of the options. We need to be able to select multiple issues so American Home Shield needs to fix that. I was afraid to submit another claim and then get charged the second time so I ended up doing over the phone and with that, there's a real long wait always. Then if I forget something and have to call back, I can forget it. The rep was very nice but American Home Shield definitely needs more people answering.

AHS couldn't help with my AC's issue. The company they sent couldn't find the cause why my AC's Freon disappeared and their suggestion was to put in $1,000 worth of Freon. I refused since I didn't know if it's going to stay in there. I decided to go ahead and change the unit out. We've been dealing with the problem for a long time. Plus, I was supposed to get a phone call back from a manager, because I wanted to have a pressure test done, but never heard back from anybody.
Finally, I got this nice guy and he set up to get the pressure test done. I didn't like the people who came out and I wouldn't use them. They weren't really interested in trying to find where the answer is. They said that someone stole my Freon. At the end of the day, that's what their diagnosis was. Luckily, I had a friend who has an AC company. I had him come and he said, "We're not seeing where this is coming from." So I'm just not going to put a lot of more money into the AC unit, with it being so old. I paid $800 for a service that didn't help me. I won't be using American Home Shield again after this year.
I would like to speak with you and help resolve the experience you recently encountered to have your AC system repaired.
Thank you

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my AC and they had someone come out last July or August to look at it. I came home from work and the AC was broken in my upstairs unit. They fixed it quickly though. I also submitted a claim for a washer machine the other day. This is the first time I've had that issue and they have to go look at that next week. The contractors they've sent have all been very professional and good. They explained what they're going to do and I've never had a situation where somebody was not qualified. It's been a good experience. They communicate well and send you emails. When you file the claim, there's usually an email sent to you right away. Plus, my issue gets resolved quickly each time. I will renew when my contract ends in April. It's certainly worth the money, especially on an older house.

I've had a leak in the garage coming from underneath the hot water heater closet. The leak was not a fast leak, but it was consistent and persistent. Sometimes it would dry up for about a day, and then sometimes it would not dry up for several days. When I explained that to American Home Shield, they said that if it's coming from underneath the hot water heater they should send out a plumber. The plumber came out and his assessment, which didn't take long, was that the hot water heater was leaking. I asked him to show me how he could see that and he said that there's a gap on the hot water heater floor.
Where the heater actually sat, he said that there was dampness there. He wanted to drill and dig that floor out and put in a new floor. And then he said that the pressure of the heater is going to make it worse. He allowed me to touch and feel it, but there was no give-way there and it was not soft. Also, I'm a heavy lady, almost 200 pounds, so I told him we don't need to go to that extent. I said that we can reinforce the floor if he wants to buy and put in a layer of Hardie board, which he agreed on. I had to have it tiled and I had some big, 15’ x 15’ sheets of porcelain tiles. I allowed him to put them underneath the heater and he was okay with that. He proceeded, gave us an estimate of $900 for the installation, and part of that included a $200 permit for an undeveloped permit for the inspection of his installation. We settled, gave that to him and went away.
It was the middle of August when he installed that heater but the leak never stopped. My husband and I were too busy at work to spend a whole lot of time with it. I kept calling the plumber back, even leaving voice messages and text messages, but there was no response. I told my husband that the plumber didn't say that there was going to be an inspection, so someone has to be getting in touch with us. I started calling and trying to get the inspection myself. But when I got to the people that do the inspection, they told me that they cannot come until the permit has been filed or pulled. He also said that there was no permit that has been pulled for any work at our house.
I asked for some instructions on how to proceed with the leak issue. They said to call our plumber back and tell him he needs to process that. I asked how much time do we give the plumber to allow him to do that. They said that it doesn't take long and that the plumber should be familiar with the process, which is usually within 24 hours. They should have the permit before they do the work, but sometimes, it's 24 to 48 hours after. So, I told them that it's been a couple of weeks, but I'll reach out to him. I started calling the plumber about the permit deal. I was initially calling him back about the leak still leaking, but no response. Then I started calling him back about the permits and still no response.
So now, I called AHS again and I told them water is still leaking. They sent out another plumber because the initial plumber was not available and not responding. The plumbers that came out to the house were not in a truck of any professional marking at all. My husband told me that there were two guys driving down toward the house, and asked me if I’m expecting anybody. I told him not today but tomorrow. They were not in uniform and so I just had to believe that they were who they said they were.
I didn't let them in the house. Instead, I let them in through the garage. One plumber says that my AC condensation to the pipes is clogged. My condensation is pooling in the pan and the pan is running over and this is why I see some days that it's dry and some days that it's not. Some days, you get more water than others. However, he's a plumber and I needed an AC person. They agreed with their assessment, which was a good thing. But they were having a personal test about something. They were having a conflict to the point of calling each other names.
A few days go by, I finally called American Home Shield out. They sent out another contractor for the AC and sure enough, that cool expert was the contractor. Automatically, he went right to the problem and he removed some doors off of the AC so he could look deep. He pulled out his flashlight, and he showed me the problem. True enough, it was the condensation tubing or pipes. He also showed me where the water was pooling underneath the floor, which is the reason why it was leaking out into the garage.
The AC unit is a great structure. I'm glad it wasn't leaking in the house then there would be more damage. Water has been leaking for about three months now and I'm surprised the house didn't start sinking. He was able to vacuum that water out and clean the tubing. Before he left, he actually poured water in the condensation pipes and he showed me that it was coming out in the proper place, which is on the outside of the house. He charged us $100 for that, which I would have paid that initially.
Now, I have a new hot water heater. It's just that the installation has not yet been inspected and I'm nervous about that. I wanted the installation inspected so I called the development company again, the man that oversees the installation and he still has not pulled the permit. So, they gave me some information on how I can find out if his contractor’s license is valid or not. I asked the rep at AHS if the contractor that they sent to my house has a valid license and they said that the last time they checked, he had a valid license. I told them that I did not want to be charged another service fee for this contractor.
So far, the service that I'm getting from American Home Shield is dwindling. It was not near what it used to be. I've had them for 20 years. They used to be a part of my mortgage. So, when I pay my mortgage, my mortgage company automatically paid American Home Shield. It was totally invaluable to me unless I need it. It's just now that I've been in my house for 20 years that there has been something going wrong.
I would not recommend AHS to others since they're not checking their contractors and that's a problem. Another thing is that every time I've called, my wait time has been over an hour. I get a warning that my wait time could be over 30 minutes or over 45 minutes. So, what I do is I put my phone in my pocket, walk around with it, put it on mute, and have my conversations while I'm at work or after I get a hold of them. Also, through landline, I put it on speaker phone and do what I need to do. My husband and I were thinking to go to another home warranty company where I may not have to worry about the contractor.
I'm beginning to wonder if I want to take the money that they're taking from my account every month and give it to another company. I would like AHS to take the ownership of having that contractor, pull that permit so that I can have that installation inspection. But they've clearly said to me that they're not responsible for the permits and all that. That's a crossroad since they should be responsible for that or have some type of enforcement. The pride in terms of services that they once had to offer is no longer there.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting the leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

We had a whole system backup at the trap and American Home Shield was able to send somebody out. The guy fixed the plumbing and everything worked. He was professional. It happened on a Friday night and I submitted the claim via the web portal. But the only way I was able to make it an urgent ticket was I had to call and sit on hold for about a half hour. The rep was good though. He immediately knew that we were in an emergent situation and made sure he could get in touch with the plumbing company that was supposed to be coming out and also made sure they had somebody scheduled out. After making sure the claim was in correctly, everything went smoothly.

I needed a water heater replaced recently and the interaction with the contractor was fine. But we did extensive work, beyond what we anticipated. I hope it was done well since it was also replacing the unit, bringing things up to code and filing permits to do so. I would expect that they did all of that. One of the reoccurring problems that I have with AHS is that they don’t route the service request to providers that actually do the work. The last two times, I had to call them on more than two occasions to resend the request. There should be an opportunity to set up more criteria in their system so that they don’t have that happening. They should also have better clarity on the front end so that a customer does not need to call multiple times and then be put on hold for an extensive period of time. But other than that, all the people that I've been on the phone with were extremely courteous and tried to do their best. Overall, AHS is relatively good.

The contractor got out there Monday and he was professional and prompt. He was very considerate, too. The problem was something simple and it was an easy fix, but I didn't think it was. He flipped the switches, the amps, the switchboard, the thingamajigy. I had already done that, but I guess I did it wrong or maybe missed one. My only complaint is they don’t work on weekends, but AHS provides excellent service.

I was with American Home Shield a couple of years ago, then we had to cancel. I then decided to reinstall again. So far, American Home Shield is okay but I have an oven that has ongoing problems and a cooktop that doesn't work well. First, they said that they’re going to replace it then they decided they take the parts. They said it’s going to take six weeks to be fixed so I don’t have an oven for the past six weeks. Since last week they’re saying the part is coming. I talked with the contractors and they were nice but it’s very hard to get in touch with them. They’re supposed to come today but they called and they said they cannot come due to an emergency. They were supposed to replace those two but they're still not working well. Right now I can turn them on somehow but I when they come back I hope they bring the oven and the cooktop because it’s the holidays now.
Furthermore, the customer service is very difficult to get through. There were a couple of times when I called and I was just on hold for more than one hour. That needs to be improved. Every time I called I was told something else about the oven. First, they said, "We’re going to replace your oven so call back on Monday because we are waiting for the contractors to see how much they’re going to charge us to put in the new oven for you." So I called on Monday and then they said, “No, who said that? No, we are going to fix your oven. You’re attached to your Thermador.” When did I say that? I was willing to change it especially for the holidays. And then the lady said, “No, I’m not listening to that. I’m from that department. I’m just filling in for customer service today. There’s no such a thing. We’re not going to replace it.”
The computer wasn’t working well and now I understand that they’ll refurbish it. It’s going to take another six months to get down again. I’m surprised that American Home Shield made a decision like that. Nevertheless, AHS is good. I had so many problems and they really did the job very well but I’m hoping that I still get the problem with the oven solved soon.

When I first submitted the claim online with American Home Shield, I never got a notification that the contracting company wasn’t going to do the work because they didn’t service the brand of appliance we have. I logged in and saw that the claim had been canceled. I resubmitted the claim and American Home Shield sent it back to the same company again, so I called them. The rep looked at the claim and said, “It says they serviced that here.” I said, “If you look at the previous claim I opened, the notes in there say that they don’t service that brand of equipment.” She looked and then told me, “You’re right! I’ll see if I can find somebody else.” AHS finally dispatched it to somebody else.
I was contacted within 48 hours and we set up the service call. It got submitted back to American Home Shield for approval. It took about six weeks before somebody came out for service, which I was a little disappointed with. Also, although this is not American Home Shield’s fault, it took more than a month for the part to come in. But once Appliance Wizard, the company that came out, did the service, it was great. The problem has been resolved and I'm happy.

American Home Shield replaced the evaporator on my air-conditioning unit. Over the last three years, their contractors came out four times and added Freon to my air-conditioning unit. They did it at the beginning of the season, at the end of season, and at the beginning of next season, it was out again. And they never checked the evaporator. They had rerouted my drain so the water came out on the side of the house because the pan on the evaporator has rusted out and was leaking on to the drip pan below it. One of the guys last year made the pipe go back the drain of the house to circumvent the rusted out evaporator but didn't replace it. Nobody ever checked if the evaporator was leaking Freon. Because they kept on replacing a little valve or didn't find any leak. They just said that the Freon is low but they're talking about three or four pounds low on a unit. I got to pay an extra $100 because it’s my Freon.
The guy from Greenway told me that I needed a whole unit and that I was wasting my time spending money on more Freon each time. Then he tried to sell one for $6,000 and told me that he'd finance it for $150 a month. I told him that the reason why I got Home Shield was so I don't have to pay $6,000. But then it came down to $4,000 and told me that I should cancel American Home Shield and just pay $100 a month for an air-conditioner finance. I said, "I'm not going to finance my air-conditioner." Then the Greenway salesperson was absurd and finally came back in and said that they have a new unit out for $2,500. But I insisted for them to replace the evaporator and that Home Shield is going to pay them for it. My payment was taken out of my mortgage payment for the last 15 years. And then last year, Wells Fargo stopped taking the payment out so I just went direct.
I paid $675 back in May and now I spend another $1,000 because I had $700 worth of Freon that I had to put back in the evaporator. They should have fixed it right the first time because it doesn't just rust out. Now, it's routed right in the drain and everything is. The air-conditioner would work when they fixed it, but it kept on leaking out Freon. It's working now, but we'll see if it holds Freon 'till next season.
I've had AHS for 16 years in this same house and everything has been done by Greenway. They were trying to sell me a new air-conditioning unit and telling me I didn't need to be spending my money on American Home Shield. AHS should refund me my money from my last repair and shoul fix the unit permanently instead of putting a little band aid on each little part.

My water heater stopped working. The pilot light would not stay lit and could only get it on for just a couple of moments. It shut everything down for a day and a half. I can't shower, can't clean, and can't do everything. I tried to do submit a claim online and had great difficulty. It didn't take me to the right area. I then submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. Good thing I was able to talk to the claims reps. They were friendly, attentive and not assuming. They also sent a contractor who was amazing. His name was Josh and he was up to code. Since the repair, my water heater has been working wonderfully.
However, before that, I've had other contractors from American Home Shield and I found them absolutely horrible. The one for my refrigerator was very rude to me and my daughter but was kind to my son. He had to come out four times and we've lost hundreds of dollars of stuff because it wasn't keeping it cold. But overall, AHS has been helpful, consistent and easy to deal with. I had American Home Shield before when I had purchased another home. So whenever I was asked who I wanted to go through, I automatically chose them just because of the quality of the people they send out is typically very good.

I have had American Home Shield a couple of times recently and they were very efficient and they got the job done in a timely manner, so I was really impressed. They didn’t make me wait around forever and I’m glad. The glass door of my oven got shattered and I called it in and the rep was favorable. I had to wait too long on the phone but she called to see how I was and I didn’t even want to complain until she had somebody at my house. She told me to call a certain number and so that worked out fine. I've had American Home Shield for a long time and I've been very happy with it. They have been on time, they followed through and they fixed the appliance.

I've only used American Home Shield twice since I've been enrolled with them and the first job was done well but a few months later it's not working. I had an electrician here at the beginning of the year and he replaced a part. It’s the holidays and we’d like to put some decorations outside but the outlet still doesn’t work. And then recently I called American Home Shield to file a claim and the call was short and easy. I told them what I needed done. The shower was leaking badly to the point that we weren’t using it for a while because when my granddaughter takes a shower, she takes two hours so, it was dripping water all the way down to the kitchen. When the plumber came in, he found the problem and told us how to fix it. He did not fix it at all, we did.
My husband called me at work because the plumber told him what to do and he asked him to buy the caulking to put on the pipe and a spray because he didn’t carry any of that stuff in his truck. My husband was disappointed and since he is 59 years old he couldn’t do it. We had to get one of my children to come and do it for us. So I paid $50 somewhat a month and then I pay somebody to come and fix something for me and charged me $100 and doesn’t do the work. We were not satisfied with that at all.
Thanks for your feedback Josie. We would love to hear more about your experience in an effort to resolve your issue. A social media rep will follow up with you soon.

I noticed that the hot water heater had slowly stopped putting out hot water and it was getting annoying taking cold showers. American Home Shield was provided when I purchased my home and I’m glad to know that. When I first called, it took an exorbitant amount of time to actually get on the line with a representative. Getting a hold of a representative sometimes at peak hours is not ideal.
The gentleman that I dealt with was extremely professional. He asked questions that really went beyond the scope of his job and at the time he was actually training somebody but he was able to answer all of my questions and complete the tasks within the minimum amount of time. The contractor was really knowledgeable and it seems like they knew the task at hand. They found out what needed to be done and they were in and out very quickly. It’s a great company and after this whole experience, it really made me think whether I wanted to continue with them. I’m probably gonna continue on with them for homeowner’s insurance.

I opened a service request via online and the technician scheduled the service appointment immediately. However service contractor (Whirlpool) diagnosed that my washer is very old and parts needed would require authorization from AHS as cost to repair would be more than the value of a new machine. Since then I have not heard anything from either of them. Whenever I called, I have put on hold queue for 45 plus minutes. Once I got hold of someone to talk to me, then told me that somebody will call me back to follow. It's been 4 days since that promise was made but nobody called yet.
The online service request feature is really good to open a ticket but status is never updated nor anyone bother about following up with the customer. I had really good experience with AHS in the past for few service request but this time I am really frustrated. I have had a few experiences with AHS. The hold times for this company are just ridiculous. The rep has no authority to do anything. I have a contractor that is supposed to fix my boiler. They never showed for the appointment after confirming with the office staff that morning for an 8 am to 12 pm. They never showed and when I called back the lady thought she talked to me 5 minutes prior. I called and had to get a supervisor to request another company because the rep is not allowed to do so. The case was switched to another contractor at that point.
The next day the original contractor called to address a new ticket. It was another gentlemen who had no idea about the appointment Monday. He was kind enough to tell me how to reset the boiler and it worked for a few ignitions. I then called and cancelled the call. A few days later the boiler will not stay lit. I went into AHS to start a new ticket but the original is still open and the original contractor is not returning my calls or texts. I am now on another hour long phone wait just to get something done. I am not sure the rep will even be able to do anything. I am about to cancel this service and just pay a local tech to come out. This company deals with very unreliable contractors at times and the customer service is not very helpful with what they can accomplish if something goes wrong.

Called to get charge reversed and also requested a different contractor and when the rep couldn’t give me an answer I requested a supervisor, then I was told it would be a 45 minute wait. WTH??? This is why I will be looking at competitors when my contract expires. Now to add insult I told them to put on record not to ever assign this contractor to my house due to the no show, and soon as I requested another call I get the same company. Lately, I had claims with AHS concerning the air conditioner and dishwasher at our house. They had to come out a couple of times for the air conditioner. Initially, they thought it was fixed, and it did seem fixed, but it wasn’t. Then they tried really hard and finally got it fixed. For the dishwasher; the people from Sears had to order a part and the part came so they are coming back out here next week.
When filing claims, it's very hard to speak with someone from AHS. They also try to just assign you to someone and I’ve been assigned contractors that I really don’t like and don't fix things. These contractors just try to sell me something. Even when I file a claim online, I couldn’t request what company I wanted. I could, if they accepted American Home Shield and if I go through all that, but AHS should have more people responding to the calls. Also, some of the contractors that come out only tell you that your appliance couldn't be fixed, has to be replaced and they don’t want to put anything through American Home Shield.
So I had to be on hold for a very long time, about an hour, in order to talk to someone at AHS and get a contractor that I wanted and that I knew would usually fix the problem the first time. The contractors that I picked were very professional and I have no complaints. You have to have a lot of determination and persistence to make it work with AHS. It isn’t the easiest thing in the world to deal with them, but it can work.

American Home Shield has always been cooperative with everything and their reps have always been polite and prompt. When we called in our problems, they would either give the name of a contractor or they would send the job out to the contractor. If I didn't hear from the contractor, I contacted them and we usually get the service within two days. After the hurricane, we couldn't get through so we submitted a claim online. My husband got it right away and didn't seem to have any problem with the website. Recently, we had AHS replace our worn out garage door opener and they did that promptly. Then our AC went out and was also replaced. The repair people who came out did all in a professional way. We've been with AHS for quite a while and we've been very pleased with them.

American Home Shield definitely sent competent folks out to do the repairs. In the year that I've been with them, I've had two contractors come out and they both repaired what we needed to be repaired. The last time I filed a claim, I had some things that weren't working and I called AHS, and the contractor came out within a reasonable amount of time to check on the issues but they had to come back. But the contractor was a different company this time and they said that I had used them before. The other contractor seemed to be a little slow in calling the consumer once AHS gave them the referral. I had to call this contractor myself because it had been several days since I submitted the claim and they said, "Oh, it was in our inbox," and I didn't know if they hadn't checked their inbox or they didn't care. It was five days before they were able to come out.
But it was with AHS and not with the contractors that I had a problem. Whenever I called AHS, I was on hold for at least 40 minutes every time. As far as getting in touch with AHS, I tried something. I called AHS and pressed the number to file a claim, and it took 40 minutes before I could talk to a rep. But when I called back and pressed the button to open a new account, the rep answered the phone right away. I said, "So, you guys really care about opening new accounts. But when someone's calling with a claim, we have to be inconvenienced for 40 minutes." This was ridiculous and it definitely made me not want to have a warranty with them. I hated calling AHS since they were very slow in picking up my call and I'm already shopping for another warranty provider.
I would like to apologize for the hold time of over 40 minutes that you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

The sink in my bathroom wasn't draining and AHS couldn’t fix it. The tech said they tried to clear out the drain line and they couldn’t do it. The guy told me the snake wasn’t long enough. In the meantime, American Home Shield had called me saying this isn’t part of the contract and it is my responsibility to get this fixed myself and that they would not be able to come out to do anything to drain the line.
AHS sent out Lone Star and they said it would be $450 for them to do it. I said okay and we discussed this with my husband and see what he wants to do. I got it done for $100 from another plumber and he is a certified plumber. He was here in 10 minutes and he did the job. We needed a really long snake and he cleared the whole thing. They sent me a letter and the rep from AHS told me on the phone that it wasn’t from American Home Shield and that was not part of my contract to get the drain line cleared, it was my responsibility to find somebody to do it other than Lone Star.
Another thing was with a guy that AHS sent came to fix my washing machine. The motor had gone, so he goes out to his truck. Everything was taken apart. It was all over near my kitchen. Then he goes out to get the part anyway and realizes that the part is not the part that he needed so of course, he can’t come back. He then comes back the next day to me. They should ask you what type of the washer or dryer you have, what’s the model number, et cetera, so that they can bring the right parts and this time, they didn’t.
Before, we used to pay the contractor when they came out. One time, it went up to $81.65 so I called AHS and they said that’s an increase and that’s tax. I said, “What are you talking about tax? We don’t pay tax. It’s the flat fee of $75.” I went back and forth with them and they did nothing. The next time I had somebody out, it was $75 again. Also, when you try to get on to American Home Shield, it takes an hour and a half to get through and they put you on hold. One day, it took two hours to get hold of them, so it’s very frustrating with them and I have a lot of friends who complain about the service.
I'm also not a fan of having to pay before the service is done. I said there’s a website you have to go to and you can put in your credit card or pay after the service, which I’ve chosen pay after the service many times and that’s where I have to go through the regular number and wait an hour and 30 minutes to two hours waiting for them to approve me and say, “Well, yeah. We’re going to take your credit card anyway and we won’t charge your credit card until the job is done.” But, what if I don’t like the job? They’re still going to charge my credit card. I preferred the system where you write the check when the guy comes out and then that’s it.
They've also seemed to use the same contractors and I’ve had some come out. I’ve complained to them about it and I said do not send me these contractors again. It’s like they’re on a training mission and they’re not really qualified. They go up and down the stairs and it takes them forever to do stuff and I have to clean up after them. I’m not happy with American Home Shield. They need to up their game and they need to get companies that are reliable and companies that are efficient and professional.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

I sell AHS to sellers and buyers since I'm a real estate agent. It's a benefit that I offer to them. I also have AHS for my home. I've had a policy with them for two years now. I live in a nine-year-old home and my AC went out recently. Unfortunately, it happened on a weekend, a Saturday, but I made the claim online and I was fine. I could tolerate it 'till Monday. The response time was very quick. They gave me the name of the contractor that I would hear from. I had somebody come here on Monday and it was repaired swiftly. I was very happy with the contractor that came.
We have an AHS representative in our office, David. I called him to make sure he knew about my claim since they said they were going to respond in 24 hours. But the 24 hours brought it still to the weekend, being on a Sunday. I called him to ask a question and he answered right away. He offered to purchase an air conditioning unit for me or pay for a hotel if I needed it but I said that it was unnecessary and I appreciated it. He goes over and above his job to take care of the agents that sign their clients up for these benefits and he does a great job. The technician was great. He explained everything and what he discovered. He made the repair, came in and explained a little more about what he had done. He was clean as he made sure he took his shoes off before he walked in my house. I was very pleased with the contractor. My experience with AHS overall was exceptional.

They initially sent me an email that a charge was taken, but I haven't received an email about the refund taking place. Other than that, the experience was pretty easy.
When something was clogged up in the outside fan of my AC, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out was very professional. I've been with American Home Shield for two months. Recently, the drainage line was clogged. Submitting a claim with AHS online was fast and easy. The website was good and if I went through it, the claim process was smooth, straightforward and fast, and the issues were settled very easily. But if I had to call AHS, the wait times were crazy. I've waited from 30 to 40 minutes and got no response, so I was frustrated if I had any questions and called in. I got bounced around from one rep to another. The reps were courteous and tried to help, but they didn’t have the knowledge nor the authority to do anything, and the issues didn’t get solved.
On the other hand, the contractors were good in general and my interactions with them were good. But I had specifically told one of the contractors that I had to work with for my air conditioning to call me before coming in since I wasn't home then, but they didn’t call. They came and left without letting me know, so I had to reschedule the service appointment and that was frustrating. Also, the service people that came initially didn’t seem competent enough since they were making excuses one way or the other. Then AHS sent out a different contractor that was able to fix the problem the first time they came and the drainage line works fine now since the repair. But right now, I wouldn't recommend AHS to others since calling in to them wasn't very easy.

So, they worked as fast as they could for us, which was nice. I had nothing but fine experiences every time I've spoken to them. On the other hand, we had several people come out to fix the AC. It was a long ordeal, but it ended up getting resolved.
The first person that was sent out said that it was electrical. He wasn’t authorized to open up the panel, so he said that he was confident that it was the breaker or that we needed to get a new switch. Then when the electrical guy came out, he tested it with a machine that tests it and he said it's 100% fine. It's an actual problem with the AC then he came back again and told us that the breaker kept tripping. He was very nice. For about a month, every time we went upstairs, it would just trip. We made sure that the breaker wasn’t tripped then it started to get so bad and it was tripping all the time.
We called him back again and it ended up being the condenser having the problem. We had some guests that were coming to stay upstairs so it was frustrating at the beginning. Everyone kept saying it wasn’t their deal but ultimately, everybody worked fast for us. My husband had to stay home for a couple of hours from work on the day that they came to fix it. Also, it was expensive and hopefully, it will last. Other than that, we had an issue with the garbage disposal and it was resolved, too. AHS has been great.

Again I call them and they told me that the previous person did not do it properly and again for the 2nd time I updated it after waiting on the phone for 50 minutes. So on October 24th I am getting another email that my payment was rejected and I call them again after waiting for them for 50 minutes on the phone, so the customer service rep tells me that the other person forgot to click on the ok option.
I was like furious and told them whose was to be blamed and she said that it not her fault the other person did not do it properly. So I told her that I need to talk the supervisor at this point as this is totally unprofessional and worst customer service I have seen. After 3 months and 4 service calls, the heater was not fixed and AHS referred me to another company. On 9/1/2017 AHS send another out of area heating service company. After 2 visits and multiples new parts, they could not get my heater to work. The second company has been requesting AHS replace the heater. As of 10/25/2017 AHS will not authorize replacement after 2 repair companies could not fix the heater, multiple new parts installed, and 5 months since I first requested service. They want to send the same repair person out to troubleshoot the heater again. Do they think he can perform magic after spending hours on two previous calls, installing multiple new parts, and informing AHS he is not able to repair the heater?
I would like to tell you how difficult it is talk with AHS customer service. The wait times are extremely long and they are limited in their ability to help. I called customer service representative Devon on 10/12 to report the problems I was having with AHS in getting my heater fixed or replaced. He was pleasant but kept telling me to be patient and he would notify contract relations of my problem. I asked to speak with a supervisor but none were available. He assured I would get a call within 48 hours from a supervisor or contract relations. It has been two weeks and no calls have come from AHS supervisor or contract relation.
It is almost winter and some days it's 60 degrees in my house. AHS does not seem to care about their customers and the hardship they created by not fulfilling their agreement. They have caused me hours of frustration and the heating company advising them the heater needs to replaced not troubleshooting it again that will only prolong the inevitable. I feel 5 months of trying to fix a heater is long enough. It needs to be replaced.

American Home Shield has sent contractors to my house to fix my air conditioner three times now but the unit is still not repaired. They also take forever to get somebody out. I have a pending claim with them but the system isn't very clear on how to bring somebody back out without us having to pay all over again, since you're not supposed to pay within the six-day window. Also, when you call, their system doesn't give you many alternatives as compared when you're talking to a person. However, getting a person to talk to is terrible. But once I got a live person, my experience was good. American Home Shield should hire a few more people to talk on the phone. They should also update their system as to where you have a few more choices. And if you can't get the system to answer your question, must get to somebody quicker. Otherwise, we're wasting 45 minutes to talk to somebody.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced to have your air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.

American Home Shield provides peace of mind for my home and the service has improved to completely replace the negative feedback they received several years ago. I went to their website and submitted a claim for our water heater. It was easy and within an hour to two, I received a text message that the vendor had been identified and will be contacting me within 24 hours. However, I wasn’t happy that at one point I had to call in twice because I was given numbers to contact a vendor which AHS should be able to do. When the rep hung up, I had to get right back and be on hold an hour or so trying to get in. We tried to reschedule with the original vendor, ran into a lot of back and forth trying to get back on a schedule, and it became very difficult.
I followed up with AHS and their queue was very bad on a Friday. I was on hold for a long time. American Home Shield needs to improve on their staffing to minimize the call wait time. The gal I was able to speak to was able to quickly identify a back-up vendor though. They were supposed to arrive on a Saturday, but they arrived that Friday evening to restore service. They brought back the hot water and I was very pleased.

The repair was completed about an hour and the garage door worked better than it did after.

It was extremely easy to place a claim for our air conditioner with AHS. I got online, put in my zip code and address, and my policy popped up. I clicked request service and within 15 minutes when we submitted the claim, somebody was out. We've had a local air conditioner guy come out twice and he resolved the problem. We also had a plumber come from Montgomery, which is an hour away. He was at our house for three hours, did more than he was supposed to and did an excellent job. Everything was done well and our experience has been very easy and excellent.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my range and washer issue which started a week before I called. Their claim process was so easy and painless. I got a call from the repairman the same day and he was out the next day. He was very knowledgeable. My range was acting up and he fixed it in 10 minutes. And he said that he knew what the problem was with the washer and that he was going to try ordering one part first and see if that works. If that doesn't work, then it's going to be the control board.
When the first repair didn't work, he said he's going to order the control board, and I ended up getting an email saying that they were going to replace it. I'm now trying to purchase one and then get to reimburse the cost. From what they said, they have a set number and if I go over it, it's on me so I'm hoping that this part goes just as smooth. I'm happy right now and very satisfied. It has been a seamless experience and they've been very quick in their response.

I've had nothing but good experiences with American Home Shield. They sent out someone to fix my garage door recently and it was exceptional. The guy who came out was was pleasant, polite, efficient and knowledgeable. He was on time, explained why the unit wasn’t working and fixed what I needed to have fixed. The only problem with them is getting a rep on the phone since it's a long wait. But with all the fires and hurricanes over the country, I bet they are busy and my dishwasher and my garage door and my disposal are minor compared to what some people are going through.

We had a slow pinhole leak in our kitchen. We filed a claim with AHS and it was pretty easy. We submitted it online, received a call within 12 to 24 hours, then had something scheduled for the next day. The contractors they sent did an initial scheduling call, a quick visit to fix the pipe and a follow-up call the next day to make sure everything went well. They managed to fix the leak and that's all that mattered to us.
We've had AHS for about four years now and we've had several claims for older things that really don't have any business being fixed. But that's the only thing American Home Shield will do, that is, to fix rather than replace an appliance, as long as it could still be fixed. We have to make the decision to actually go ahead and replace it because it's the right decision to make. Then American Home Shield will only cover whatever the cost of the repair would have been, like a couple of hundred dollars instead of the whole $5000 that it cost to replace the busted things in the house. It's frustrating but it's the way the business works. Other than that, we're satisfied with the four years we've been with them.
Thanks for your feedback Ethan. We would love to hear more about your experience in an effort to resolve your issue. A social media rep will follow up with you soon.

We had the fan motor of the compressor at the house that we were selling start to make loud noises and it wouldn't quite cool as well as it did before. The noise was so loud, it could be heard all over the neighborhood. So, I called American Home Shield and said that it wasn’t working efficiently, and that I thought that there was something wrong with it. AHS called the company, who came out pretty fast. They looked at it and said that there was indeed a problem with the fan in the motor. That was the reason why it was making all that noise. and it needed to be replaced. He said that they’ll do it for me, and asked me to turn it off because if I kept running it, the pieces that are working well could be damaged.
Another guy came back in about four days and had the part and replaced. It ran and it sounded great and it's very efficient. Before we sold the house. We ran it and it cooled really well. So, they did the job. The technicians were very respectful and good company. However, it took them about five days. If I still live in the house I would I would have wanted them to fix it faster than they did because it would have been hot. As for American Home Shield, we bought another policy for our new house.

I recommend American Home Shield. I called them to report that my washing machine was not working. The rep who I talked to was very nice. They had a company call me and set up an appointment to come. I called on a Friday and the contractor called on Monday. The contractors, who were a husband and wife duo, then came to work on the unit and they did a great job. I was really pleased with them.
The husband explained what he was doing, answered my questions and did everything. I really appreciated that because I'm one of those people who will stand there and ask questions. I thought my unit has cratered and he told me too, at first. But he explained that if he could get it working and do what he thought would be a good job to where it would continue working, because some of the older machines are better with some other parts, it would probably keep working longer than a new one. And he worked on it and got it to break loose. The washing machine is now running really smoothly.

American Home Shield Home Warranty, DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! It’s a SCAM. I’ve been a customer for 4 years with no claims. On Sept 20th I filed a claim because my refrigerator was not cooling or freezing. Standard is they hire someone to come out and service. That contractor has 24 hours to contact you and set the appointment. Contractor’s first availability was the following week, diagnosed it and they needed to order a part. The following week’s scheduled appointment deemed the part defective, and had to reorder. I asked THEN for a 2nd opinion and AHS said it would be out of pocket. The following week the part came in and once again had to get on schedule for repair. That part also didn't work and after 3 hours of further diagnosis AHS now wants a 2nd opinion. This is after 3 individuals have been to my home and diagnosed the problem, and said refrigerator needed to be replaced.
In the background over the past 5 weeks (now starting my 6th), I have been trying to communicate with AHS. They have a 1.5 hr hold time PER call and PER person you need to speak to. So, if you need customer service and they need to transfer you expect a 3-4 hour call minimum. DO NOT ask for a supervisor, you’ll be told they are unavailable and will called back in 72 hours, and that call never comes. DO NOT request them to listen to the recorded calls to support your inquiries, they won’t. I have been told they are “a service repair company” not an insurance. There is nothing they can do to expedite service calls.
Customer service conveniently disconnects with request for a supervisor. Promised my deductible would be waived but still charged my CC. Escalations promised I qualified for cash in lieu only to have another rep tell me that person didn't have the authority to do such. Customer service Supervisor told me fridge could be replaced only to be told a week later that the supervisor didn't know what she was saying. Consistently being told promises, making me believe they are helping me to only document untrue statements to CYA of the extreme opposite in their notes.
I have taken 3 days off of work to accommodate their repair people. I have been eating out for the past 6 weeks. By now I could have bought a new fridge and be money ahead! Instead, I’m still waiting…on endless hold...for no answers. The WORST customer service. They make it as difficult as possible to get the coverage you've paid for and will not put the customer first.

2.5 weeks ago, I put in a claim needing my washer fixed and my dishwasher fixed. After waiting 1.5 weeks for parts for the appliances it was determined my washer was not able to be fixed. They "fixed" the dishwasher and they would call me in 1 business day to get my washer replaced. This was Friday, October 20th. Well today is Wednesday, October 25th. I still haven't gotten a call from AHS, I spent an hour on hold to speak to a representative, who then put me on hold while he made phone calls. At about 1.5 hours on hold, I was disconnected. It's been 2 hours now, no callback from this person working on my file. So now I have been hold for another 45 minutes to speak to someone about when I will get my washer replaced.
Now my dishwasher. I told them it was working. The person they sent out said it was fixed and turned it on. Well it turns on, great, it did that before too. But the problem of the water not draining when you finish a load is still there. Since the guy replaced the motherboard and didn't report the issue of the water not draining. I have to pay another $100 fee to have it fixed. This is ridiculous. They are quick to sign you up and take your money but the customer service sucks. It is always an hour plus wait to talk to someone and God forbid you get disconnected they never call you back. And even when they schedule appointments to call you back... THEY NEVER DO. This is a ** company and I regret ever doing business with them. STAY AWAY.

Our microwave and refrigerator broke, and we are up to three weeks with no repairs because there is no one to service our area. On October 8, 2017, we called American Home Shield (AHS) to report our broken microwave and place a repair request. On October 12, 2017, we called American Home Shield again to report our broken refrigerator and have it serviced under the purchased warranty. My husband and I have called the company multiple times between the 12th and today, the 25th of October. We have been told multiple times there are no vendors to service our area, but we can call a vendor ourselves with an outside authorization number. So, we tried that. When we called all appliance repair companies within a 40 mile radius, they all said they will not work with AHS and cannot help us. We've called AHS back to inform them that no vendor in our area wishes to do business with them and therefore will not help us.
The AHS operator and "Service Specialist" again told us today what we have been told each time we called, as I described to you above. They told us the only thing they can do is keep our repair need open and wait for a vendor to pick it up. Despite explaining to AHS that this is an unreasonable and absurd amount of time to wait when we purchased a warranty that guaranteed service in our area, and it is not our job to do their work. We have made very reasonable attempts to look for vendors ourselves as instructed by AHS, however, we continue to be told they are unable to help us and there isn't nothing we can do but pay for the repairs ourselves. We have been living out of ice chests since this happened, and there's is no end in sight. Living without the microwave is inconvenient, but not a crisis. It appears that we were sold a warranty without good faith in mind from AHS, and appears to me that we purchased a fraudulent warranty.

Currently, I have a home warranty contract with American Home Shield (AHS). The contract is identified as a "3X3 Combo" meaning it covers my appliances, plumbing, electrical issues, etc. AHS was notified by one of their plumbing contractors that my water heater needed to be replaced - that was back on 10.13.17. I was told that they would cover the cost of the water heater but not the "modification" cost that the plumber would charge. The plumber (Grade 'A' Plumbing) wanted to charge me $400.00 for "modifications". As a result, I asked for AHS to send me check, which is my option as a customer. Per AHS, the "cash out" option is suppose to consider the cost of the water heater and labor. On 10.18.17, AHS told me they would send me a check for $403.91 after I submit an invoice for the replacement of the water heater.
Section 'A' of my contract glowing list everything covered. However, Section 'I' talks about these "modification" cost that are the responsibility of the customer. I take responsibility for not adhering to the "buyer beware" rule. But, I don't think any customer should: 1.) Be kept on hold for an hour, yes, I am not kidding. 2.) Be told different things by representatives of the company. 3.) Have to present an invoice when they opt out of using AHS services to repair an item because of additional inflated cost demanded from an AHS contractor. And, what is the purpose of submitting an invoice when AHS derives at a predetermined amount they will pay anyway? 4.) Not be permitted to speak with a managers or supervisors, no matter how many times requested.
5.) Be told that a "cash out" offer will cover the cost to replace an item as well as the cost of labor to replace that item; 40 Gal water heaters on average start at $439.00 and good one starts at $600.00. Even receiving a contractors discount the amount AHS wants to send me in 4-6 weeks, that's right, I was told after complaining about the need to submit an invoice to prove repairs were made, that I would be extended and I quote, "a one-time courtesy" of having the check sent to me between 10.26.17 and 11.15.17.
On top of that at the onset of this entire painful experience with AHS, an AHS customer service representative told me that back in March 2017, my water heater was replaced by the same plumbing company AND I received a "cash out" payment. WHAT? The notes in the system are always wrong, the communication is poor and, this is only my opinion based on my experience with AHS, this company works like an insurance company. When you submit and claim and they have to replace an item they increase your premium payments. Buyers Beware?

I called American Home Shield because I liked to know what it costs but they refused to tell me because that was between them and the contractor.
Then something happened to the filter where the water goes through. It was leaking and there was a pinhole in the tub. The same people came out again and said that they needed to replace it. They also said it's made in Australia and they'll order it and ship it right away within the next day or so. And they did. But they additionally charged me $190 for the plumbing. Now, it didn't take a plumber. All that took was a guy who put the filter in to cut some pipes and glue them together. So, that worked again. But that was a bad omen there for me to have to pay. Also, when I called them, it took forever for somebody to answer. That's very irritating to call and wait on the line for an hour. That's inexcusable to me. They weren't responsive in the manner which I thought they should have been. And a couple of people I spoke to were rude, so they're done in December. I'm going to Select Home Warranty.

I had my account number so it was easy to just click and submit a claim.
Somebody called me to set up an appointment right away, even though it was a busy time after the hurricane. The appointment was set a week and a half later, which was fine and doable. The previous owners had American Home Shield and they told us that they liked it and explained to us what it was, so we continued with them and it's been over 16 years that we've been with them. However, it has changed since then. When my microwave broke down, they had to get it fixed. We called them about three times in one year to get it fixed and they wanted to fix it again, so we told them that it’s costing us more to get the microwave repaired than have it replaced. We kept paying $75.
Before, when a unit has been repaired and then it was not fixed, they would replace it and we would just pay $75. Now, they don’t replace the unit and they would give you less or what it’s going to cost to get it fixed and then you pay the rest. That’s not right since we’re paying for something that they told us before and then it changed. Although they’ve sent us in the mail what the changes have been, it’s just a lot. With the number of years we’ve been with them multiplied by how many issues we had and how many things they have replaced, I don’t think we have gotten our money’s worth.
Nevertheless, I would still recommend American Home Shield. They are efficient and I pay $75 for something that might cost us $300 to get fixed which is still a good deal. It’s been a great experience as well. We filed a few claims last month wherein the most recent one was the leaking dishwasher. My husband called and he had to wait on the line. It’s usually too long. I called in April to have a water tank checked since it was leaking. It was replaced it and the manufacturer of the tank took responsibility for it. But last month, the tank started leaking and flooded the first floor of the townhouse the day before closing. Trying to get anybody on the phone is a nightmare as the wait time was over an hour. So, the only way to submit a claim was online and their website was pretty basic. All I needed to do was log in and then tell them what the problem was. Then they have sent the same people for plumbing and they had been very great so I've had no problems with them.
One of the things I don't like was the emails and text messages generated were not matching. For instance, with the plumbing issue, we asked them to check the water pressure and do some of the repairs on the house. I got emails and text messages that American Home Shield got so-and-so and had been scheduled to come out at this time. But nobody contacted me to see if I'm going to be available for it. Previously, I would get an automatic response saying that I put in the claim and this is the company that's been assigned to and then the company would call to say that they can come on this day. Then lately, I've had to call the company to know if they are coming. They've either gotten the claim and they've not scheduled it yet or they have it scheduled and nobody notified me. Their communication has gotten worse. Overall, American Home Shield's process sucks but they're beneficial to have.

I’m not happy with American Home Shield because they refuse to pay anything. I had claims for my washing machine and AC. Submitting claims is easier to do online but sometimes I had to do it over the phone and make follow-up calls where I’m placed on hold for a long time. The last time was an hour. And also when I get a hold of somebody they go down a list of what they pay and what they don’t pay. They tell me what they find and that’s it.
The washing machine was messed up after we moved here and it took almost three weeks before we got it fixed. It had two service visits where three different men came out. It took an hour and a half to fix it but it would have been less than $400 to replace it because it’s just an old GE top motor. So it’s just been really frustrating. If I had a different warranty place to go to I might go with them. It was unfair for them to say in trying to sell this product, “We will repair or replace.” I learned from the first set of contractors for the washing machine that if they don’t make any money off American Home Shield, any home warranty works. They stretch it out to get the most money they can and that’s what the three people and the extra time was all about.
We lost power for 12 hours during the hurricane. I cut the power off to everything because I was told to. Then in the final day when power was hooked back in the area we heard what sounded like gunshots and I cut the power off again and put it back on and everything seemed to be working fine. Several days later the compressor blew up and lost all the Freon. The technician came out the next morning and he just said that it was a power surge and if he fixed it it would be $15,000. So then I was making calls to try to get it expedited and I was told that since it was a power surge they wouldn’t pay anything.
I guess the technician didn’t want to do that work so he blamed it totally on the power surge. And then they told me I would have to pay another $75 for a second opinion and if they decided it was a power surge then they wouldn’t pay still and I would be out $150 dollars then. Also my friend had his guy come and he said “With the compressor blown up, you can’t say it was a power surge.”

A lot of times it’s not fun having to call an 800 number, talking to someone and having to be on hold so it was nice to be able to do that online. AHS and the electrician reached out to me directly so it was very easy on my part. It was quick and painless too. The gentleman who came was very punctual and informative about the process. My air conditioning went out and very simply, I filed the claim online. Because I work, I really like the fact that I can go online and then they would call me back to ask what days were available and the contractor would come out. It’s convenient. We have an older home and our air conditioning is on top of the house and I didn't go up there with them 'cause I figured everything was okay. But it still wasn't working. Josh came back and he was totally honest. He was training another guy and the trainee fixed the wrong air conditioner. He apologized and he did whatever he could even though he didn’t have the part that he needed. He pushed the part in for our breaker because that was what it ended up to be in the breaker ‘cause it was making a circuit blow. He had put the lowest wattage he had and said he would be back in a couple of days once he had the part.
He also saw that I had children and since we live in Vegas and it was the peak of the summer, it was really hot. He could've lied or said anything crazy but instead, he even went further as to give me his personal number and ask me to call him immediately if an even worse issue occurs that night or if the breaker breaks. I really appreciated that and everything is working now.
I also had some issues previously but the plumber came out again and they cleared that up. Then this time with the air conditioning, I was wondering if this was what American Home Shield was known for. But I'm paying for the service and as long as my issue is resolved, I’m cool. At one point, my garbage disposal kept going out and my husband said he would go YouTube stuff and try to fix it but I said we have American Home Shield and he should just use it. The guy came out and he felt nothing was wrong with it but then it went out the next week. I kept the receipt and I called back. He came back and brought me a new one, no questions asked. I am overall satisfied and I have recommended them.

I did a claim online and American Home Shield's website was easy to navigate. The contractor sent who I've also had before was very good. They had to order the parts and because AHS didn't allow them to purchase parts elsewhere, it put me out of my refrigerator for an additional period of time that I didn’t need to. The part was available through a vendor that was in Jacksonville but because of the price difference, those are things that AHS wouldn’t have covered, so that’s the bad thing about it.

We were customers with American Home Shield for 2 years. When we actually did have an emergency and tried to contact them they wouldn't return our calls due to the fact that our emergency happened on a Friday early evening. Our sewage pipe collapsed on a Friday evening and they expected us to wait until after the weekend to find assistance. When we finally did get a hold of someone it was Tuesday! So make sure if you have an emergency that it doesn't happen over a weekend and you're left sitting in a **! I warn everyone I see not to go with this company. Horrible customer service and they're just out to take your hard earned money!!!

I have tried three times now to contact someone about repairs needed at my home. Each time I have been on hold for over an hour and on one occasion was disconnected. When I book a technician online, I get charged the $75 fee, someone comes out to look at my appliance, they tell me they need a 2 person crew (in the case of my stackable washer/dryer) or that someone else needs to evaluate the whirlpool tub, and then... I never hear from them again! The $75 fee always gets taken though. I am shocked by how terrible this service is and am currently trying to find a way to cancel.

Every time I've called American Home Shield (including a call at 12:00 AM because I had a pipe spraying water everywhere in the basement), I have had to wait on hold for at least 45 minutes (at 12 AM, it was a full hour). Although you can submit a request for service online, there is absolutely no mechanism by which to contact them about that service except for the phone. There is a chat line, in theory, but it's never available. Most recently, our water heater has stopped working and there is no hot water in our home. The company that was contracted to come out originally told us they'd be able to provide service today. Then I got a call just an hour or two later saying there was an emergency and now they can't come until 2 days from now, making a total of 3 days without hot water.
I called American Home Shield and waited on hold for 50 minutes, only to be told that another company couldn't be assigned because the original company had 48 hours to come out. Ok, but it's over 48 hours if they come out between 1-5 on Thursday, but... ok. That situation is frustrating enough, but the hold times every single time I call being between 45 minutes and an hour is the most annoying and frustrating thing. From a customer service perspective, that amount of hold time should be the exception, not the rule!
It's unacceptable to me that every time I call for assistance, I have to hold for close to or over an hour. Even the hold times for technicians that come out can be excessive. One technician that came to our home had to wait on hold for over 30 minutes to get authorization to provide the service. They can't perform the service until they get that authorization, so they almost left without providing service (AHS couldn't provide a contractor within the time frame so we needed to contact a company outside of the warranty company contractor group - they were really close to refusing to serve us due to how long the hold time was).
Shauna,

It's the worst company to reach! Every time you call you have to wait at least 35 minutes to talk with a representative and they never can solve your problem. I have to wait for 4 days to a call back from the finance department and they called me to say that they sent a LETTER to explaining the situation. A letter was sent to solve a urgent problem. The website is really bad, not useful after you open the claim. You can't check anything in there. You don't have access to the quotes, description of the job done, or anything else related to the claim. You can't solve anything online. You have to wait forever to talk with a representative and this one will send you a letter! The price that they pay for your appliances are disrespectful totally under market. The company that came to fix my furnace doesn't have a office.

The past two times I've had to submit a claim through American Home Shield, they have failed to properly deliver their work orders to the company being hired. Each time I have had to personally hunt the company down and wait well over a week before anyone comes to look at the problem I'm having. Both times, the issue at hand involves my furnace. My family (including my three young children) have had to endure roasting in 100+ degree weather in the summer waiting for someone to fix my air conditioner, and now, will freeze at 40 degree and colder temperatures this fall waiting for these companies to learn how to communicate with one another.
If it was a one time problem, I would have chalked it up to a one-time mistake, but since this happens every time I call them, it's definitely a problem. The companies hired always say they never receive the work order from AHS until I hunt them down myself. These warranties are not cheap - the least the company could do is confirm these businesses are getting their work orders properly! And when they fail to do their job, they should at the very least refund the service fee paid by the customer. I do not recommend AHS for homeowners. I plan to find a different company to go through as soon as my contract is up.

Although I've been a consumer for 30 years, I have never written a review about a company until now. AHS is the worst company I've ever worked with except for Comcast. I was their customer for 11 years only because it is hard for me to take time to change plans, and being a single parent I can't afford to go without a home warranty. The AHS online service request process is very poorly designed and I could never use it because there were certain companies I had to ban from my property due to past incompetent performance, and there was no way to add any kind of comment in the online service request. So I always had to use the phone. Once a service request is logged, you are supposed to be able to look up the status on the internet site, but this rarely worked when I accessed their site.
The phone wait times were extremely long - commonly 30 minutes and sometimes up to 1 hour to the first contact with a representative. This was a multi-year pattern. After reaching a representative, a high percentage of them were not competent in their roles. This too was a multi-year pattern. The last service request I logged (within the past 2 months), I was on hold for 30 minutes and then the representative was so incompetent it took another 30 minutes to log my service request because she kept telling me things weren't covered that were definitely covered.
I was on the phone more than one hour for a simple service request. At one point I asked her to let me speak to a supervisor since she was struggling, and she told me it would be more than 1 hour wait to speak to a supervisor. Over the years, every time I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told every time that a supervisor was not available or that it would be a one hour or more wait.
In August, the contract I had been on became "no longer available." When I called to investigate and arrange for cancellation, the man I spoke to told me that the contract I had been on was still available, just not to me. He said (and this is a quote) "I don't know what you did, but the underwriters have changed your contract and raised your premium." My premium was doubled. It went from approximately $50/month to $100/month. I told the man I wanted to renew only for a month or two while I found another warranty vendor. He said, "No problem, there is no obligation. It is month to month and you can cancel any time." He NEGLECTED TO TELL ME that they charge a "convenience fee" when you cancel: approximately 1 month's premium.
I canceled it today and learned that I now must pay them $92. That same man that explained how they were gouging me also told me that AHS has new owners and they recently started over with a whole new call center. This validates the many complaints of long wait times and incompetent representatives on this and other websites. My experience with AHS was so bad that I simply don't believe the positive reviews on this website. But I'm logging this negative one anyway, in hopes that it might help someone else avoid the bad experiences and losses I have suffered from being their customer. I would also like to know if there is some way to get them to waive the "convenience fee." I am a single working parent and $92 is painful for me financially.

I ripped the carpet to know exactly where the force of the water is coming from. It's a big leak so there must be something. But I don’t know what it is and they just came and did not charge me. We called for someone else to come over and check it again. The second guy came and didn't do anything. They don’t know where it's coming from, and they just want me to wait for another leak. So do I have to wait for another one and then call again? Are they going to charge me again? I don't know what's going to happen that’s why I'm a little bit frustrated. American Home Shield refers me to another plumbing company but they are charging me for something that’s not done. Until now, I can't figure what the problem is.

The turnaround time was good. AHS sent me the names of the people to call but we had to call them to set up an appointment for them to come out. My husband dealt with the contractor. He came in and assessed the problem then came back in two days because he couldn't fix it. He said we needed a new one so he picked up a new heater and brought it back to install it.
He was supposed to come back end of September to put on the faucet but the guy hasn't shown up. We never heard from him until my husband had called him and he said, "No. I know I'm supposed to come back." After that, I had someone from a different company come to repair my dishwasher. The guy checked it out and saw that it needed a new part. So, when the part came in, he came back and installed it. AHS gets somebody to come out or accommodate you whenever you get them.

They call to confirm the appointment to make sure you're satisfied. When the contractors say they're coming when they're scheduled to come within that window, they're coming. If not, before then. Then, they keep you posted. My time isn't wasted.
During a hurricane, my air conditioner wasn't coming on and I couldn't understand why. I called American Home Shield and they told me what I could do to try to save me from paying the deductible. I did the switch and everything, and didn't know what else I could do. So I told them I was going to have their contractor come out. Sure enough, a guy came out there. He found where the problem was and he fixed it. He also showed me how I could maintain it myself, which was how to clean and flush it, how often to change my filters, and how to clean out the outside after I cut my grass. I wasn’t rinsing the air conditioner system out well with the water, and they did a little extra time to spend with me to help me with that and I appreciated that a lot. I heard about it but I wasn't sure how to do it.
They had to come back out a week later. They asked me what was the best time for me. They went with my schedule, and I liked that a lot. It was the same problem with the air conditioner but this time, they needed to reset the fan. Then I never had any more problems. They didn't charge me the second time either when they came out. I was really satisfied and I would recommend my family member to American Home Shield.

It's absurd and infuriating to hear their cycling recording on how much they value me as a customer.
I attempted to use the self service mode when I started the call - nearly 90 minutes ago! - and after using the voice recognition prompts the call ended with my being assured I would hear from an HVAC company to address my issue with my "air condenser" - which is not what I requested as I am having an issue with my sprinkler system! I've been in my in my place for four months when I signed up for AHS. They sent a guy out because the water wasn't coming in in my washing machine. He fixed that but didn't let the washing machine run. I ended up with the water coming in fine, but when the washing machine gets to the spin cycle, it jumps out of the bathroom. This has been going on for four months now since I've been in and out of town working. I called and a guy came by and told me I needed shocks. I waited for three weeks before the guys from Universal came back to put the shocks in. A couple of days later, I go to unload and when I pressed the button nothing works. Universal came out again and said I needed a timer panel. They told me to call AHS and see if the part could be expedited.
When I called, their rep said that I've been passed off to someone else. I talked to those people today and they're supposed to come out tomorrow to assess the situation. They keep setting people up, but they're not following through. I heard all these good things about them. However, they couldn't care less about my lousy washing machine. I've never heard from the contractor within the 24 hours they're supposed to contact me. I always had to follow up like I did today. They wanted me to wait til next Thursday, but I asked them to squeeze me in some time else. They set me for tomorrow, sometime between 10:00 to 6:00 so I have to wait around all day.
AHS did pretty good for the last three visits. I was supposed to pay $75 per visit but they haven't charged me for them because they didn't fix it. Then there was one time they sent an electrician to fix a switch that we're using, and he was really good and helpful. He was in and out. AHS is okay but, this particular case with the washing machine is getting out of hand. Moreover, when calling them up, be prepared to spend about an hour on the phone waiting.

I don’t have any problems getting through them and having them set up a date for a contractor to come out. If we hadn’t gotten performance from them in the past, we probably would’ve changed. But so far, it’s worked out. They’ve been mostly timely, and every time we’ve called them, they’ve gotten the job done. Recently, we had the pool pump go out, and the contractor had to come out a couple of times to get the whole issue taken care of. The first time, he didn’t quite get it right. However, I was going to call on the performance of my dryer since the repair because I’ve been hearing a noise in the dryer that I normally would not hear prior to. The sound is like putting the old-fashioned timers for cooking that you wind, set time and makes a ticking noise. The young lady that I talked to that time was very nice and professional. But the last time I called AHS I was on hold for 20 minutes.
The problem wasn't fixed the second time though. My house is ten feet so the guy couldn’t figure out where the leak was coming from and we had to try a couple of things. The technician was thorough and he took off the shower face, the drain face, the shower head and he took pictures off the wall to make sure there was no leak inside. Overall, it took three visits to fix the issue. The technicians were nice, professional, and looked like a plumber though. They gave me the 10:50 window and one of the things I liked was that they called before they came, I was not just sitting waiting.
Now that the problem is resolved my daughter doesn’t have to shower in my bathroom. We’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now, on and off. I've been with AHS since 2000 to 2017. I have not used them that much, but when I need them, I expect to get good service. American Home Shield started well but deteriorated in the last seven years. First of all, in the last six months, it took a long time to get anybody on the line. I've been on hold for hours. I don't know who they've subcontracted out to, but I'm assuming they have someone else. Secondly, they have sent people to do repairs who were not able to do the repairs and didn't understand what to do. They had to send other people out. Plus, they gave me the runaround. Finally, someone told me that they're not going to do the repairs. They just didn't want to tell me. This was after I had a supervisor call me to set it up and someone said they would do the repairs.
I had an overflow with my AC condenser. I had water all over my floor and had to stop it up with towels every day. I finally had a plumber come who could unstick the plumbing, where nothing has changed in 17 years, to cut a line to, so at least the water could run into a bucket. I dealt with this for four months. When they finally sent someone new out, the new contractor told me they were not able to fix it but were happy to give me a new air conditioner. The other AC people that came said that they don't know what to do and that I need $200 worth of Freon. Finally, I just got my own person to come do it. They said that American Home Shield would not do the amount that they gave me. We're talking about several thousand dollars.
I have no confidence when I asked AHS about the caliber of people they were sending. They said they were trying to give the little guy an opportunity. One of those little guys had a beater car that was very unprofessional and left oil in my driveway. I do not consider them to be giving good service. I don't know what changes they've made and nobody was able to tell me. I'm waiting for some kind of explanation. They're not doing a good job and they don't care. I don't know if I'm going to renew when it comes up because it's getting to be too big of a hassle.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced to have the leak related to your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.
Thank you,

I have my bedroom, walk-in closet, a little area for the kids to have a playroom, a full-size bath, and a very small utility room in there. It has a square footage of approximately 800 square feet. I put my wash in at 8:30, then I sat in my room and watched TV. At about 10 o'clock, I decided to get ready to go to bed and close the dryer. I went into my laundry room and it was flooded. Not only that, the washer's tub was still two-thirds full of water and the blinker is still going on. This is an hour and a half after I started the machine. I haven't heard any noise and the base and the top of the machine was dry.
All I can assume was that the water is leaking, the hose wasn't attached properly, and that the water never hit the sensor cause the water doesn't turn off. It quietly flooded for 90 minutes. I have a $600 painting bill and a $1,795 water reclamation bill. Plus, they still have a rug to pull up and there's a $3,500 drywall and painting bill.
I can't get hold of American Home Shield because they're not open and when I call, I'm usually on the phone waiting for at least an hour and have to make multiple calls. I called my homeowners insurance and told him he can subrogate. I don't want a deal with American Home Shield insurance because I'm dealing with their contractors. I called the remediation people at 11 p.m. and they were here at 8 a.m.
The next day, I'm on the phone for an hour before I got hold of American Home Shield again. I had to wait another five days before they sent somebody. The remediation people tried to get me to say it was my machine's fault, that it was my fault that it flooded. I told them that the guy replaced the belts, the agitator, the basin, and almost all the hardware that was in my machine. It's not my machine's fault. AHS sent the same guy out and he sees the damage. He looks under the machine for 10 to 15 minutes, then he says there's nothing wrong with the machine.
I think the hose was loose and he did not want to admit it. I have to wash clothes so I started using the machine carefully. I watched it and didn't leave that machine alone. I had four loads to be done, but it broke again. This time, when I called American Home Shield, I got somebody who was sensible and was actually listening. I said not to send GE and send somebody else. The contractor came out and he looked under it. The belt was broken again and the pulley mechanism was bent and unrepairable.
The guy replaced the whole interior inside the machine but he never addressed the basic problem, which was the pulley mechanism that had sheared the belt again. This is the third belt that the pulley mechanism had sheared, the original one and then two others. Now I got the machine to death. It hasn't been two weeks yet since I put in the materials. I went out and got a better machine. American Home Shield offered me $487 for my replacement value. I bought the machine from a recommended area and had it replaced professionally.
I've spent $730 and I have submitted it to AHS. They have another week to respond with my check because they said that they take 10 to 14 days. I went on to their website and I got hold of somebody there. I went through the messenger and I sent a copy of my check through there. I also sent a copy of the letter that AHS sent me and a copy of the receipt. Now, I'm waiting to see if I get paid. The machine was seven years old and I know they have to pay the replacement cost since that's in their contract. I expected an offer from 200 to 300, but they offered me $487. It is a good and equivalent offer.
They should have fixed the machine within so many calls. Plus, they need to change the tech without having someone complain if the same contractor visits five times without fixing the machine. GE repair refused to send a different technician and said if they send a different technician, they'd have to charge an additional fee. They are the ones that made the mistake but they are covering themselves.
I have used American Home Shield on a few other things and it takes forever to get them on the phone. Once you get them on the phone, you've got a 50-50 chance of getting somebody who is knowledgeable and who really wants to help you. If you get the right person, it could be handled fairly decently. I've had my water heater replaced by them. Plus, My daughter just had her dryer fixed by them. I had no issues with either of those things. My daughter's washing machine broke last year and it took over three months for AHS to resolve the issue.
My water heater also went out, in the middle of the night and I had a plumber. I couldn't go without water for a few days so I told AHS that I had to get my plumber out here. They okayed it, but they took forever and it was not an easy fix. And when he fixed it, he put a new one in and they paid him. He came and checked it out. He got a hold of American Home Shield and ordered the part. He was back the next day and within three days, I had my water heater back.
My daughter just had her dryer go off. It took them three weeks to get the dryer issue fixed and part of that was because the repairmen ordered the wrong parts and had to reorder. The dryer is working now though. American Home Shield has three basic problems. One, answering the phone and being able to contact them in a reasonable amount of time. Two, the people who they train are catch-me-if-you-can. And three, the contractors they use for whatever reason are inept. I'm retired and I could sit here on the phone with them. I can take the time and sit there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Somebody who has to work won't be able to. Their premiums are good but only go for this company if you have time to sit and wait for people to come.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting your washer machine. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

We had two problems but one of them seemed to have been there since we moved in and it wasn't as noticeable until recently. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was very good and very easy to do. I was told every time that the tech was going to come and who was going to come and I really appreciate that. The contractors that they have sent were very knowledgeable, helpful and knew what they were talking about. They even checked another thing that we had supposedly added to the claims at first, which maybe we didn't and they came back later so that was very helpful. American Home Shield has done a good job and they're very clear in their invoice as far as what they covered. I was appreciative of the cost of everything and then they broke it down to how much they covered. It has been a quick and easy service.

I was trying to be proactive in the hopes that I would not need American Home Shield but it turned out that I needed it. It has been a convenient service for me to get for unexpected repairs like when all of a sudden my icemaker stopped working or when my AC got repaired every summer. When I thought it was the final time, it happened again this summer.
All three contractors by AHS were professional and they knew what they were doing, got to the task at hand, within minutes knew what I needed and ordered whatever needed to be done. They told me the expectation of when the part or replacement would arrive too. It was really nice to have text messages from AHS that told me when the second appointment was so it was convenient to schedule my day and not have to stay home and wait for the repairman to show up. Recently I submitted a claim online for the drain to my washer and it was very easy to do. Everything’s working in order and I've been telling my family and friends to get American Home Shield.

Our experience with American Home Shield has been pretty much ugly. We were given the home warranty from the former owner when we purchased the house a year ago. When we moved in this past August, we started having flooding problems with the air conditioner. They sent us out someone who took about five minutes to say it's clogged. He blew something out and went away. Then the flooding continued and we finally got them out there two weeks later again. The guy said it was a clog problem, and then he went outside and said our condenser needs Freon. So he put Freon in it and then he said there was rodent damage on the outdoor condenser. I asked if a rodent chewed through the condenser, and he said it was the problem so he made a recommendation.
We waited for two weeks but we didn't hear anything. Every time we called, we had to stay on the line for a minimum of 30 to 75 minutes to talk to someone. I spent so much time on hold only to be told someone will look into it, and then nobody would call me back. I finally threw a fit enough to get a young lady to send me someone else with a second opinion. The last fellow that came out was very good. He was very professional and he was very thorough and he wrote everything up. He said that the coils were sitting just about on the ground and when they hit the ground, the unit will be gone. I thought his report was pretty conclusive, but he was waiting to hear from American Home Shield.
I called him back a couple of weeks later and he said that American Home Shield never ordered him to do anything. I called American Shield again and they said he didn't make any recommendations, although I have a copy of the report that says the condenser is no good. It has been two months with no resolution and I’m still waiting.
In the meantime, the water heater went out. We called it in and American Home Shield had a fellow come right over. That very day, he replaced the water heater and we were done. So I don't understand what the problem is for us to have been waiting since August 8 for a resolution on the air conditioner. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that an air conditioner costs more. Every time I called, someone said they'd look into it. Still, from the last time, we haven't heard anything back. I don't know where the ball keeps dropping, but I think it's on the part of American Home Shield. My partner wants to renew it only because he's afraid that we're going to get stuck if we don't, and we're in mid-process with the air conditioning situation. If we continue with them, it will be out of someone holding a gun to our head, not the fact that we’re happy with the company. My experience with them hasn't been the greatest.
I would not recommend them to a friend unless they have nothing to do but sit on a telephone all day. From what I understand from the contractors that were sent out, they have the same problem calling American Home Shield and trying to get through because they told me, "Don't take it personally. We have the same exact issue when we're trying to call in with our reports and stuff." Their customer satisfaction rating must be very low. All the way around, their communication skills need work, both with us and with the contractors. The contractors are saying that AHS is very big and they're all over in the United States and that you're never getting the same office when you're calling because it's an 800 number. So, one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing, the way it was put to me.

I've been with AHS for 11 years. I called them about my oven and I had to do a recording but they got back to me the same day. The guys that came out were professional and on time. There were follow-ups made due to parts. With my dryer, they couldn't decide what was wrong with it. They came out once and said they had to get a part and they'd be here the next day. It was the right part, but it didn't fix the problem. They ended up not being able to fix it and we were without a dryer for weeks. They replaced the dryer but it was not an equivalent dryer. From what I've heard from other people, AHS is as good as any other home warranty place out there. But they could also work on having somebody actually answer the phone.

I had some air conditioning issues with one of my units. And then I went through some papers and found out that I had a warranty with American Home Shield. So I thought of submitting a claim. Once I did someone called me within 48 hours to set up an appointment. After that the ball was in their court. It was expedited except I had issues with my family. The technicians wanted to get started but I was kind of a holdup for them. Other than that they set up everything and they took ownership and from there it was uphill.
My air conditioner had capacitor issues and they had to replace that. But the technicians didn’t all come out just to fix it. They came to educate me too about preventive maintenance and other things I should be looking for since I was a first time home buyer. Since then my unit has been doing doing excellent. I had an awesome and seamless experience.

I had two first-time claims that I filed by phone with AHS because I wanted to make sure that they were going to be covered and that I talked to somebody. The reps I talked to were great and everything was good. One of the issues was with the dryer which started a month ago but we kept kind of nursing it. The catch on the door where the door goes into was cracking so they fixed that. After that, the dryer looked new for a while though it was getting old. The other problem I had was with the plumbing as some of the toilets were not flushing properly. The guys came out and replaced all the innards, three of them, and a couple of little tubes at the top. Before the repair, we had replaced one of the toilets completely and we’re super happy that we didn’t have to replace a whole toilet this time. It saved us money for a while. The toilets need to be replaced because they’re awful, but we’ll just wait.
It is crazy to have something like that which could be frustrating and inconvenient but American Home Shield made our life easier and working with them has been a really great experience. The only thing is, I got a notice saying we're past due on our bill. All this kind of scares me as no one has ever billed me. I got online and tried paying it but the payment wasn't going through. So I called their 1-800 number but I still think there’s an outstanding payment that I need to make with them. Other than, overall, in my mind, they're still very good.

We had a problem with the lights and there were some outlets that weren't working, so I called the 800 number. American Home Shield got me somebody, and within 24 hours, I had somebody at my house to look at the electrical. For us who live in the rural areas, I like the fact that we’re able to talk to a person on the phone, not just an automated system. That’s really important because not everybody has access to email, or you may ran out of power and won't have any access to email. It's been painless with American Home Shield. One time that I had a problem with the contractor, I called them and they immediately took care of it. They sent somebody else out so I was very happy.

My real estate agent suggested American Home Shield so I started last August and I bought the yearly package. We got a leak underneath the sink and water in the shower. I told my real estate agent and she helped me to submit the claim online. I paid AHS the money and AC Plumbing came out. They said they had to assess what was needed then they got back to me a week later. It's now three weeks later and I'm still waiting because they are scheduling the appointment and I work. I've been trying to get somebody to speak with AC plumbing but I've been getting the runaround. I would ask who's off to come and be there but they're not showing up at that time. For the last appointment, I took half the day off from my job and then they claimed that the plumber went there and my gate was locked so they took a picture and left. But why didn’t they call me?
It's becoming ridiculous because people are taking time off. I've asked my son and his fiancée. In fact, my son has been at my home since eight o' clock today, waiting for the plumber. He texted me that the plumber is not there yet and now I'm on my way home on my lunch break. I can't totally blame it on American Home Shield though because they do have good benefits but I hope the experience would be better.
I hate to hear that you've had less than satisfactory service with AHS. A social media rep will reach out to you shortly. Thanks.

I got a phone call later that day from the service people saying that they had somebody in the area that afternoon and it was all on a Sunday. The service people were excellent. They came out that day and were very knowledgeable. I was quite impressed that everything got fixed so quickly. I’m very satisfied and everything was great.
My experience with American Home Shield has been very convenient, easy, and quick. I also had an issue with my AC, a mouse had ran into our capacitor and so when the AC unit was trying to start, the capacitor wasn’t helping it to start. When it got hot, it wasn’t running and when the guy came out and opened it up, there was a mouse fried in it. They replaced the capacitor and it starts up nicely now.

The air conditioner pipe was leaking by my front door. The problem was it was by an electrical socket. When I originally called and made the appointment, the rep from American Home Shield gave me a company that told me they wouldn't be able to see me for a far day away. I told them I was concerned because I have an electrical socket right there and we got a potential fire hazard. She said they would find me another company that can get there sooner so I appreciated that because originally she was pushing back. They need to listen to the customer a little bit and slow down before they respond with a no, and understand what the customer is asking for and why.
She saw me another company and this company came out. The technician fixed the problem so it worked out good. He was very nice and very informative. He taught us about a few things - why it was happening and why he was doing what he was doing. That was great customer service. And he was definitely on time. He also called ahead of time to let me know what time he's going to be there. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Our refrigerator stopped working, and from the time we called American Home Shield to the time that it was fixed, it was nearly two months. There were two different contractors and there were five different visits, four of which were from people that were completely unqualified and were all from the same company. The first guy was randomly replacing parts and he had no clue what he was doing. He actually burned our cabinet with his torch while he was replacing something that wasn’t even required to be replaced. We had to pull the cabinet door off and send it out to a painter to get that taken care of as well. Finally, the fifth person that came out was great to deal with and the refrigerator is working now that he has fixed it. We have four kids, so you can only imagine the misery that the problem with the refrigerator caused in our house. American Home Shield stepped out too and they were useless.

We made a claim for two separate plumbing issues and only one thing got put on the ticket. So when the techs came out they were only allowed to pick one thing and we wind up having to pay another $75 to get the other thing done. It seems that it’s a common thing that American Home Shield would go after the lowest bidder and send contractors that don’t trust that the warranty company would pay them for all the things that need to be done. And then we get caught in the middle where now we’re going to go back to American Home Shield and they would get somebody out who neither has the qualifications, skill nor proper insurance to do whatever work is required.
This has been frustrating because it’s like why don’t you just send somebody out who can do their job and not just the bare minimal. They contact different people and they hold them under strict rules of what they can and can’t fix and a lot of times it causes delay. What happens is the folks will come out to the field and say, “Okay, here is what we see is wrong.” But then American Home Shield gives us somebody else to fix it. And so those folks say, “I can’t do anything for you.” And we wind up neither having to the decide do we pay those folks or not pay those folks? We’ve had American Home Shield now for about two years and I’d say that happens about 40% of the time. We always wind up getting everything fixed but in the end we always get a result that is not efficient.

I didn’t get anything back within 48 hours so I called the company they gave me and they set it up and they were able to see me that day.
I just hope that next time, if it’s a weekend when people are off, the claim must be resubmitted again on a Monday, or e-mail back to the originating company in case they do not get it on the weekdays. However, they gave me all the information and the claim number so when I called the company, they had the claim and they said, “Yeah, we can get somebody out there today.” The technician was really helpful and knowledgeable and he handled the issue really well. When I have a problem with electrical or plumbing, we're never quite sure exactly where the problem lies and it could be multiple issues. To date, the contractors have been very professional and on-time. They come when they’re supposed to and the gentleman who came out for the plumbing was very good. However, Home Shield could expand their repair services. I have a generator that I don’t know who to get for repairs. Having American Home Shield works well. I had a leak under the kitchen sink so I filed the claim online. But I still had to make a phone call to the people and I waited about 20 minutes to get a person on the phone. I would appreciate having a section online where one could describe what the problem was. The contractors are good and they fixed the issue where I had no water in the dishwasher. But there is still a problem with the flow of water in the sink, where the water flow valves go to the dishwasher, so they’re coming tomorrow to try and fix that.

The air conditioner wasn't working and we called American Home Shield. I had to wait on the phone for over an hour every time I call to get an appointment. It's a painful process and they need to figure out a way to get people to answer their phone faster. I think they do it so that you don't want to make the appointment because it costs them money every time they have to do something. So they sent one person out that was not a reputable contractor. My husband has booked the two unit with someone else. They had a clue of what was wrong, but the guy wouldn't listen. He tried putting Freon in the unit, which wasn't the issue and we knew that because we already had Freon put in the unit. But he didn't want to hear it. So, he charged it and we had to pay it. Then he wouldn't close up the service tickets so I could get somebody to come back because the air conditioner still wasn't working.
After many hours on the phone with American Home Shield, I was finally able to get somebody else to come out. They again put Freon in the unit. Then it wasn't working so we had to call back. The guy was supposed to come back but never showed up. Again, I'm not sure if it was a reputable contractor either because I don't think they use reputable contractors. They eventually ordered the part that I've had to pay all the extra money for the said service which is terrible and the worst thing ever.
My air conditioner is still not working right. Plus the weather's turning cool so I can't test it. Reputable contractors would go a long way. If AHS uses reputable contractors then they might not have their issues. Their guys show up and they're dirty, they don't have any kind of marking on their trucks and they don't have a uniform on. They're fly-by-night. I've looked up a couple of them, they are one-man-show working out of the basement of his house. My husband lost interest in the contract or I would have been right out of it. I have told everybody I know to never get involved with AHS.

The electronic ignition for our gas range wasn’t firing up properly, so I gave American Home Shield a phone call and reported it. AHS then submitted it to the local repair people. The contractor who came out was pretty competent. He looked at the issue and he had to order a part. He left and then about a week later, the part came in, and we scheduled him to come back. He came back out and replaced the part. He did a good job. He met my expectations and it was a good experience.

I had a pipe that was leaking in the ceiling in my attic and initially, I submitted a claim online. Then, I followed up once American Home Shield sent me who the plumber is and although they scheduled the time, I called the plumber directly and spoke with him. He came the next day, found the leak quickly and fixed it. There has been no problem since then but I had another claim. I contacted them through phone this time and they’re having somebody come out tomorrow. Overall I have read a number of negatives on the online situation about the warranty, but my experience with AHS so far has not been that way and its service is worth the price.

We've been with AHS sometime in August when we put the house on the market. When the buyers made an offer and had an inspection, they said that there was too much differential in the temperature of the house. So, we had someone come out to check the unit. I submitted the claim over the phone, and it was easy. The rep, as well as and the contractor were good. We've already had a motor replaced on the AC unit in May and they added Freon to it this time. Since the repair, the AC is cooling great now and everything is good. When we're going to pack up a house and moving, it keeps everything cooler. AHS had prompt service and took care of the issue.

The sign-up process with American Home Shield had been easy. Their rep even told me everything was covered including the small fridge. Once I’ve signed the contract, I called for the claim over the phone, the rep told me, “Oh, you’re not signed. Your fridge is not covered. The small fridge is not covered.” My contract only covered one fridge but not the small one. So, I told them that I explained to the lady that I have two fridges. She said, “Okay, yeah. That’s covered, the small fridge.” But they showed a different contract and AHS was not able to help me. I even called to cancel the warranty but a nice guy called me and said, “Why do you want to cancel it? I mean, stay with us.” So, I said, “You are a nice guy. I will stay with you.”
Then, I called to have the pool pump, filter and the electrical fixed at the same time. The guy cancelled the pool pump but fixed the filter and the pool is falling down. He took a picture of the pump and told me that it needs to be changed because it’s not safe that way. They could have worked on it since it’s still working although it’s scratched. But they said, “No, when it stops working then you call us then we’ll fix it for you.” The guy who fixed the pool sent me an estimate to change the pump which was out of the American Home Shield warranty. He wanted to charge me $1,200 for him to fix and give me a new pump. I even have the email from him.
So, when the powers started shaking and it turned off, I asked the salesman on the phone specifically if the electrical is still covered and he said it was absolutely covered. But before I called up, the contractor who showed up was asking me to pay him $100 since the electrical was not covered. I thought why do I need to pay him if it’s not covered but I paid him the $100. I called back and AHS told me that they will refund it. I’ve been waiting for one month for them to call me back regarding the issue. I will cancel from AHS because once you lose the trust, it’s hard to gain it back. I’ve had the worst experience and I will be going with Fidelity Insurance.
I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered in getting the pool filter and electrical repaired under your AHS contract.
Thank you,

I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. We lived 10 years in Phoenix and had a great experience with a home warranty company there. They were prompt, courteous, and fixed things in a timely manner. When we moved to California, we had to go with another home warranty company because the other company was only for Arizona, and we chose American Home Shield. When our 8-year-old washing machine broke, I called AHS with the expectation that we would have a good experience. They sent a technician out in a timely manner. The technician was professional - no problems there. However, after the visit I got a call that the technician said that the problem was due to overloading the machine, and that they don't cover that. I was stunned, because I felt that we hadn't overloaded it, especially because we bought a heavy-duty machine that handles bedding.
They said we could get a second opinion, which we did. This time, I was with the technician 100% of the time. He put his hand into the machine, moved the drum a little to the right and to the left, and said it was the bearings. He said that Samsung machines were awful and that they break all the time. I got a message from AHS a few days later saying that the second tech confirmed that the problem was due to overloading the machine. I was just stunned. I was with the man 100% of the time and all he did was put his hand in the machine and move the drum back and forth a little, and he can somehow say that the problem was due to overloading?
I called AHS back and talked to several people, and finally we got a man from the technician's company on the line. I recorded all of this with their permission. He said he agreed with the tech that the ONLY POSSIBLE THING that could have happened to cause the problem was that we overloaded the machine, and that this is a valid conclusion based on the tech putting his hand into the drum and moving it back and forth a few inches. He said that there was NO other possibility. I feel strongly that I was scammed and that they just want to get the service call fees. How can it be that there is NO other possibility of ANYTHING else causing a problem besides overloading, and that you can figure this out by moving the drum back and forth a few inches? This is not right, and I'm going to contact the president of AHS.

Frustrating to wait 3 months for a $25 discount and having to write consumer affairs just to get this done. However after this review my issue was resolved, but should have never gotten this far. A companies customer service agents (phone reps) say a lot about a company and phone reps should give the customer correct information. Discounts should be applied as soon as the contract or service is started not months later.

Back in July I renewed my policy and was told I would get $25 concession fee ($25 off) for the yearly contract. This $25 has become a negative experience. From the 5x I have called I was told this fee would be processed by next billing cycle, 3-5 days (3 times told this btw), 7-10 days, that it's a different call center so they need to contact the "other" call center and my favorite, "My supervisor is working on it," even though they never patch me through to a supervisor.
I have had to wait 30+ minutes each time. Finally, almost got a supervisor to be "disconnected." I believe they are instructed not to put customers through to a supervisor. To date the 3-7 days has now been 3 months. Don't understand how getting a concession fee has turned into a 3 month wait. If this happens again next year I will not be a customer.

I had a very huge frustration in trying to submit a claim for an AC. I could not get to them to tell them I have a claim. I was on hold for an hour and forty-seven minutes and then got disconnected. Then I was on hold another hour. Their website kept knocking me out and their email stated I wasn't part of their program, but I was. Luckily, my real estate agent knows their district manager.
AHS argued with the people I had doing the work. The AC unit and the furnace were 18 years old so when I bought the property, I also bought the warranty knowing that this could happen. Due to the mechanics of the heat pump, you can't do the air-conditioning without the furnace. I've had to pay for the furnace out of pocket which really makes me mad. They covered the air-conditioning part of it but not the furnace part. I'm disappointed that I had to put up $1,700 for a furnace because they can't acknowledge the reality that they can't work without each other. Though it’s better than $3,400, I was not pleased with the experience at all. But I love the people that AHS used. They didn’t use a fly-by-night operation, they used someone that was decent. They're really good people and they argued with AHS and fought for me.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting your AC system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.

I have contacted American Home Shield and they sent out Third Generation Plumbing. They're nice people and the guy who has come out twice has been great. However, at first they supposedly fixed the water heater but it was not fixed and I was still bathing in cold water. It works but it would shut off. It was kicking the internal breaker of the water heater so I called Third Generation Plumbing, but I didn't have a call from American Home Shield so they have to schedule everything with them. I called them, went online and put in a request for them to come back out. They came back out and the guy briefly set an oil-filled thermostat. I don't have to reset the water heater anymore but now I'm just having a couple of minutes then it gets cold again.
I called them again to let them know and request another time for them to come out and I waited until the plumbing company called me back to let them know what was going on because if they would take the time to let me explain what was happening they may be able to fix it instead of just keep coming out. Then I talked to other plumbers. I am in the construction business but I decided to get AHS because I thought it would make things easier but I ended up having my own plumber come out and he just needs to know all of it. So I am just going to tell the guy from the plumbing company to let them know and for us to figure out what was wrong and hopefully it will be resolved.
I'm having an issue with my pool pumps but I don't want to contact AHS so I have my own electrician coming out. After I added the pool pumps I thought I should call them, but it takes so long to get somebody out because I submit the things to them, then nobody calls until the next day and they can't get out for another week. I needed somebody out tomorrow and do it myself. It's been great so far just because it's not the cost that I have to worry about. I'm getting a little bit of hot water so at least I get to take a shower. It's not like when I used to get a lot of hot water, which is convenient, but that's something I can deal with. But I decided to do the pool pumps myself because it's not something I can wait on because my poolside is already turning green.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

The contractors were very good but I would like to invite them back on Saturday. They could bring some liquid to remove the molds inside of the pipe because this air gives out filth and pipe looks like it was clogged. It seemed this connection between the heater and the water condenser can go to the tenants then go to the sewage system.

On Sept. 21, 2017 our AC went out. We have American Home Shield (AHS) so we put in a repair request and received a notice that Total Air Care (TAC) would be handling. I immediately called TAC and got an appointment for the 25th. Tech came out, we need new coils. In the meantime, my husband has had a heart attack and just out of the hospital so I request AHS to make this an expedite call. It took TAC one week to get the paperwork to AHS for approval, and when I would call AHS they said they are waiting for TAC. On the occasions when AHS would call TAC, they would have to wait for very long periods of time. Who lets their contractor treat them like that? The part was finally ordered but could not get an installation date until Oct. 6th. The technician arrives with the wrong part.
No one can come out until Oct. 9th with a different part. I was promised that due to what happened on Friday a technician would be at my house at 12:00. 1:30 arrives and no technician so I called. The young lady said there were notes that no part is available but it said technician is scheduled, so she said she needed to straighten it out and call me right back. By 4:00 I still had not heard so I called again and was told the part wasn't available until the 10th and a technician would be out between 2 and 6. I explained that my husband had an appt. with the cardiac specialist and must leave the house by 3:00. So, they said they could move the appt. up to 10:00 - 2:00. At 1:45 I received a call from the technician that he was running late and couldn't be there until after 3:00, so I explained the situation and asked if he could come over after 5:30. He said he would check with the office.
Next call I get is scheduling to reschedule for the 12th of Oct. I asked why the tech couldn't come back later since he had the part on his truck and I was told they don't do it that way. I should have waited for the technician. Again, I explained the situation and what I was promised. I asked for a supervisor, Marie, or Maria **, who was extremely rude. So that I wouldn't crawl through the phone and strangle her I accepted the appt. for the 12th and called AHS again. They were of no help. They tried to call TAC but was told no one available and AHS accepted their response. Technician arrives on the 12th, works about 5 hours, we had AC until 1:00 on the 13th. Called TAC, they said no one could come out until the afternoon of the 16th. Again, I argued that they had to send someone on the 14th but I was basically hung up on.
Called AHS, they called another company to come out the morning of the 14th. That technician said the part was installed incorrectly and TAC has used the wrong Freon, which is against EPA rules, he couldn't touch it. Called AHS again, they wanted TAC to go back out. I told AHS I did not want this company back in my home. I was told that the contract liaison would look into this and get back to me. I still have not heard from the contract liaison. Tech arrives on the 16th, said it wasn't the coils but the compressor that is leaking. On the 17th I called AHS to tell them what transpired, they would look into it and have TAC expedite the paperwork. I repeatedly asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor told the lady to handle it and would not speak with me.
I called back that evening and was told a supervisor would call me the next day. TAC did not expedite the paperwork and I have had to call AHS and TAC every day, sit on hold for up to 52 minutes at a time, that was the longest wait time but usually over 30 minutes for both companies and never heard from AHS supervisor. Spoke with AHS on 10/19 since I had not heard from AHS or TAC. AHS had just received paperwork, I was told they were suppose to call in the order to expedite, but submitted online instead. AHS did not want to take responsibility at all for the company they contract with. When I would ask questions I was repeatedly told I would have to ask TAC, well they either lie or tell me to talk with AHS.
Finally got a call from TAC today, the 19th, saying it would be the 23rd before they could come out. Needless to say, I demanded to speak with the manager or owner. Supervisor came on and could reschedule for the 20th. My concern is about the Freon at this point. Back in Aug. they said I had to use R22 Freon because of the type of unit I have, but on the 12th of Oct. they used 407C Freon, much cheaper and they did not clean out my system to use a cheaper Freon. If they can use a cheaper Freon why was I not offered this option in Aug.? So far, no response from TAC and AHS says I have to deal with TAC, even though AHS sent this company to my home repeatedly.

This is my first time doing a claim with American Home Shield and I am not too pleased with them. I heard reviews and results that they do great with prompt service and stuff getting taken care of, but my experience has been runaround after runaround. I've had issues with my heat and air unit. It didn’t feel like my air was cooling my house efficiently. I called American Home Shield and let them know of the problem. The first contractor who came said my air was fine but my heat unit side was bad. They were going to condemn it where they had to take the unit back to their shop. But the ductwork definitely needed to be repaired, if not, replaced. American Home Shield called me and said, “Well, if you're not pleased with it, we can send another to give a second opinion.” Another company came out this past Monday and did a second look. They did nothing because they were trying to say it didn’t qualify to do the work.
Since then, nobody has come out and did anything. I called American Home Shield yesterday and they’ll be emailing the second company that came out. It seemed that American Home Shield and the contractors are contradicting. It’s either they come out and see the issue themselves to get the true appraisal or make sure they are on the same page with the contractors.

American Home Shield is a great service and it covers things that would be pricey if I had to pay out of pocket for repairs. But as far as their customer service, it is not great. They can be difficult to get a hold of if one needs to talk to somebody in person. We have had past experiences with other contractors that have not gone well, and I sat on hold for hours trying to get a person through them to get that situated. Yet our most recent experience has been easy and wonderful. There was a part broken on our air conditioner and the contractor who came out was really nice and on time. He was able to fix it without even coming in the house. He walked me through it over the phone and he didn’t have to wake my husband up, which is really nice because he works third shifts. So the A/C was unplugged from the wall, the piece was screwed, the broken part was replaced, and the A/C was fixed. The A/C has worked out well and it was perfect.

We purchased a contract with American Home Shield a few months ago. The day I called and purchased the policy, I dealt with a person who was very helpful over the phone. We had one service call out to a rental property that we own. The tenants reported a plumbing issue, and I contacted American Home Shield. The plumbers who were assigned to do the job called me to arrange an appointment to go out to the property. I referred them directly to the tenant to set that up, and they did. They went out and diagnosed the issue very quickly and turned the heat back up. The repair was silly. Probably one of my tenant's children had turned down the thermostat on the water heater, which is why they weren’t getting any hot water. It was 35 bucks I would rather have not spent, but it’s saved me from having to go out and do it, which is kind of the whole point.
Submitting the claim online was super easy to the point of probably being a little too simplified. There should be a box that allows you to put some comments in. Right now, the way it pops up, it says which system needs servicing - air-conditioning, heating, plumbing, blah blah blah. You click one of those, and that’s the only input you get to give. I would have much preferred to be able to click the box and also have a place to put some comments in to say exactly what the problem is. Nevertheless, Having the American Home Shield policy has brought us great peace of mind.

I told her that's none of my concern and that I've already paid but my tub was not fixed and my sink was still leaking.
She told me she'll call me back within 30 minutes and when she did, she said she ordered the part I needed. She told me I needed to call Home Shield and tell them that the contractor didn't fix the tub. She also told me that they'll call back as soon as they know when the part was coming. They called and scheduled the following day, a Friday, between 8:00 and 12:00. The guy called at 10:30 to say he'll be here in 45 minutes. He arrived at 11:30, walked in and said he could fix my tub. I told him not to forget my kitchen sink because it's still leaking. He replied that he didn't know anything about that. I told him that I called AHS for a recall and he said that he'll check.
Then he went to his truck, came back, and after 20 minutes, he said he had fixed my tub. I asked about my sink and he told me he didn't have the right tool to fix it. I told him to come with me outside since I probably had what he needed, and I did but he couldn't get the top off. I tried to help him but I also couldn't do it. He told me that it must be stuck and that he couldn't fix it. He said he'll have to call someone. But I had to leave and he also left.
At about lunchtime the next day, while I was eating lunch, I got a phone call from American Home Shield. The rep said that he was trying to okay a charge that KNS Plumbing submitted that was outside of the scope of what was called in to start with. He told me that I have to pay another $75 but I told him no. I had this guarantee and I was supposed to get this fixed. I told him to just forget it and that I was not going any further with that. He told me about a program where I could pay the money in kind and get it fixed. I told him to check on that, let me know and I'll see what I thought.
The next day I got a call from someone who was very business-like. It's like she thought I was trying to cheat somebody. She told me they could okay $250 for me to get my own plumber, but I have to pay the plumber first and send them the bill. I told her to just forget it. I also have not heard from KNS Plumbing. So I was very disappointed and I certainly was not impressed with AHS. But I have another plumbing problem and they're going to send the same people.

It was really hard the first time I submitted a claim with American Home Shield because I was on hold for over an hour. But that was the same time everything happened in Houston so maybe they had some issues there and that’s where one of their call centers are. But after that, on the second or third day, I tried and got a hold of everyone. It went pretty smooth. Everybody was very professional. I had a water leak and the contractor was good. We can definitely use the plumber, that's for sure. He’s done a really good work and we are very happy with his work. It’s been amazing since then. I am very satisfied.

My freezer had some issues and I filed a claim with AHS. However, it takes forever to talk to somebody on the telephone. It's not uncommon to sit on the phone for an hour or an hour and a half before being able to talk to a live person but they are fine once you get through them. They take a bit of info then have you assigned to a certain company and inform you that you'll be hearing from them within 24 hours. When the contractors give you an appointment and show up, it goes very well. They take care of the job. The last time, my freezer had several different issues that weren't related to each other. They fixed the leak and ordered a part. However, my fridge wouldn't make the noise that it'd been making, so he told me that when it made the noise, to record it on my telephone.
He gave me his personal cell phone number so that I could send the video to him. At which point, the technician responded almost immediately giving me guesses to what he thought it was and told me to contact his company the next day, and they would set up a recall for me. I did that and I didn't hear back from them. I called and left at least a couple of messages. When I got somebody live on the phone, they told me that because it was a recall, I had to call American Home Shield back to make sure that they acknowledged there's a recall and that they didn't charge me again when they came out to service the appliance. I did that and there was an hour and a half wait on the phone again.
AHS told me I would be hearing from the contractors within 24 hours but I didn't, it took several days. They called me and ultimately scheduled an appointment for today to come out and look at my appliance between noon and 5:00, but I got a phone call this morning telling me that their driver's truck broke down and that they have to cancel today's appointments. The next available appointment for me will be Monday, October 30th.
I asked for assurance. The day I took the video of my freezer making the noise was September 25th. Now, it won't be until October 30th before they're able to come out and address the problem. When I asked about that, they said that American Home Shield was well aware of how busy they were. I told them okay and that I will be home between 8:00 and noon on October 30th. Hopefully, nothing will go wrong with my freezer between now and then. However, with that annoying noise, something is going out. Hopefully, it doesn't go out and we'll move forward.
A couple of years ago, the very first time I had a problem with my refrigerator, it died. I don't remember the part they had to replace, but I lost food. The refrigerator wasn't that old. I also asked about some door baskets inside my refrigerator that had cracked. At first, they told me it was not a covered item because it did not affect the actual operation of the refrigerator. I countered it and told them that yes, it does because the way the refrigerator freezer is set up, a good portion of my storage is on those doors. If the little plastic pieces are broken to a point to where I can't comfortably use them, I'm losing a lot of square footage in my refrigerator. They still told me that it wasn't covered, so I took it upon myself and I researched it. I found out that I didn't have to replace the entire basket. I could just order the little clear plastic inserts. They pop in and out of the front portion of the door baskets.
I ordered them online at a fraction of the cost that the appliance company told me. They had told me an amount very close to a couple hundred dollars. Through my research, I found out I could replace them for $68. I did that and within a couple of days, I got a phone call from American Home Shield telling me that they had reevaluated the situation and agreed that it did have an effect and that they were going to cover those costs. At which point, I shared that I had found this good deal and it wasn't going to cost them a couple $100. I asked if they could they reimburse me for the $68. I submitted information to them a couple of times and was never reimbursed for those parts. I finally gave up.
I also had issues with my stovetop and they deemed it dead. It's too old and they can't even find the replacement parts to fix it. They told me an amount that they would reimburse me to replace it. My husband and I decided at that point that we wanted to convert from electricity to gas. We are still working on that process. I'm hoping and praying that there's a notation on my account for the day that I call and tell them that I've replaced my stovetop and that have a receipt for them. I hope that they're going to honor it. Last time I talked to them, somebody confirmed that that was still open and should not be a problem. Generally, they come through. However, if my husband worked in town more than he does, I wouldn't have this policy. But, since my husband is gone so much, I don't want him to have to take care of all these things in the little bit of time that he is home.
I deal with it, however, the number of hours that I put in to sitting on the phone and making repeated phone calls back and forth is very frustrating. The average person would not have the time for it. Even if it goes as smoothly as we've had it, they wouldn't have the time to be as persistent as I am. They're trying and it's becoming more automated lately. It used to be that when the technician showed up at your house, you wrote them a check for $75 for the copay. Now, American Home Shield takes it from my credit card the day the technician arrives. I don't know if that's a way of guaranteeing they get their money. For this current instance, when this is supposed to be a recall, I'm hoping they don't decide they need to draw another $75 out of my account for the same issue.
I understand that you encountered some issues to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

American Home Shield works pretty good. The reps who I spoke with were nice and they had me on hold for quite a bit but other than that, I'd end up going on a long time, each time I called. I know they get a lot of calls every day and eventually when I got someone, they were very helpful. The first problem I had was my stove and the contractors ended up getting the part that I needed and fixing it.
The second thing was a washing machine. They ordered parts for it, thinking it might have been an electrical or digital issue. Then they realized they couldn't fix it. They tried to find the parts and ordered them. After they found the parts they could find, they replaced them. But the ones they couldn't find were the ones that they really needed so they had to replace the machine. It took about three or four months but they eventually replaced it. They were very knowledgeable and patient with me because I asked a lot of questions. They were really nice people I didn't have a problem with. Everything's working fine now. I'm satisfied with the service that's why I continue to pay my money on my warranty. I don't have a problem paying as long as I'm getting what I need. All in all, the experience was timely and effective.

I've had American Home Shield for a long time and my experience with them was good. They have sent contractors from other companies and they have all been nice. Recently, I had an air conditioner compressor issue. The company they sent out to fix it, didn't fixed it completely. The house never cooled up. They had to send somebody back out there a few days later to get it fixed correctly.

Our swimming pool heater was not functioning correctly, so I contacted American Home Shield for repair and they sent out a guy who came to be incompetent. He allegedly ordered parts and then he told me he wasn’t available for the weekend. When the following week came, I called the tech and he said that he still hadn’t gotten me a schedule so I became upset because the problem I had involves a medical situation. And so, I called American Home Shield and they sent out someone else who identified the same kind of problem that the first tech identified. However, they said they couldn’t do any work until I contracted with them for four weeks.
They told me it’d take two weeks for them to go through their review. They have a process for sending money versus completing the claims themselves, which took another two weeks. They sent me the money and I’m taking care of the repairs myself. And then, they also told me, for them to cover anything in the future, I need to have the work done by somebody certified and licensed, and I need to send proof that the work was done, which is another irritant to me because there are a lot of people qualified to do the work that may not have the license. As far as I’m concerned, they can send someone out to see that everything’s operating. But I got my money from them so I’m going to switch to the other home warranty company. They have a very poor customer and product service, very slow response, and they don’t pay attention. They don’t even support the Americans with Disabilities Act.
I would like to apologize for the delay in service you have experienced with getting the pool heater repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

We’ve been with American Home Shield for about 15 years and we’ve been very pleased with them. We have recommended them to plenty of people and they were very pleased using them too. My most recent claim with them was for my new air conditioner that didn’t work. We’re in Texas and we get hot. I called Sherrell Air Conditioning and Heating because that’s the company I like and if I’d call AHS, they would send anybody out. Sherrell said they couldn’t file a claim for me. I haven’t had filed a claim since we pay in advance. So Sherrel called AHS and then AHS called me. I told them that I wanted Sherrell. In a matter of hours, Kim, the guy from Sherrell, came right out and he did a great job. The AC has been wonderful after the repair and I slept nice and cool.
Years ago, every once in a while AHS would have sent out bad-looking people that I was a little afraid of but now, everybody we deal with is very nice. When I call to put in an order, I’d get a text or an email or both that says who’s going to call me in a matter of how long. Sherrell would also call ahead of time and give a 30-minute notice which I like. I have a maintenance agreement with them too. They’d come out in October and about April to check things out and make sure things are running okay.

I've been submitting claims to AHS online since last year and their website has been pretty easy to navigate. Their reps have been very good and all of their contractors have been nice. They call 30 minutes ahead so I can run home. I recently had an electrical problem where I had some switches that went out. Then I had one lighting fixture that was blowing bulbs all the time and another one that got a short. But only one thing was repaired and I paid for something else to be done. The guy told me that the fixtures aren’t covered by the warranty, but when I looked it up it said it was. I'll need to call AHS and find out about it. Other than that, I have been with AHS for 10 years and they've done a good job.

I honestly do not know where to even begin. Having to work with AHS over the past 4 years has been incredibly aggravating and I would urge anyone considering signing a home warranty contract with AHS to run the other way. Besides being a complete waste of money, AHS contracts the absolute worst (unqualified, rude, destructive, not punctual, etc.) vendors imaginable.
My first experience with an AHS vendor was to fix a clothing dryer when my contract began about 4 years ago. The vendor who AHS sent to my home could not figure out what the problem was and required multiple visits – during one of those visits, he broke several floor tiles (in my 1-year old house) when he insisted on beating the front panel of my dryer on the floor (with a hammer). AHS finally sent someone from GE to fix the clothing dryer and it was a very quick and easy repair for the GE person.
Fast forward to almost 4 years later… Although over the past 4 years I had learned that it was a lot less costly and much less of an inconvenience to just hire repair people outside of AHS for repairs, I decided to use AHS to fix a garage door opener this year (it seemed like it would be a simple repair and wouldn’t be a problem). AHS sent a repair person (who we were not even able to verify if he was a valid business owner and was licensed) and, instead of trying to fix the garage door opener, proceeded to try to sell a very expensive new garage door system to us (which was not covered by AHS). He did not even bother to look at the existing garage door opener. He was basically using AHS to sell his items and services. For the sake of brevity, I am not including all details, but I assure you that the repair person was a complete con artist and AHS was not much better.
AHS is probably not the best home warranty company for you, if you do not enjoy: Holding on the phone for 1+ hours to speak with an AHS customer service rep about an issue, and then following an extremely lengthy hold, speak with a complete idiot who does not have the desire or knowledge to assist with an issue. Having your personal property destroyed by incompetent repair people. Having your time wasted while waiting for repair people who either do not show up on time -or - require multiple visits for something that should not require multiple visits. Having repair people attempt to scam you for services and equipment that are not necessary. I have since changed home warranty companies and I assure anyone considering AHS, there are less expensive options out there with much better service and more qualified technicians.

I had an issue with the other company that I had so I went back to American Home Shield. The reps are always decent and nice when I call in my claim and I’ve never had any problems with them. They get somebody out right away and I don’t have to wait a big amount of time. I also like that American Home Shield sends people from a notable company versus that other place who sent me somebody in a beat-up van and didn’t know what they’re doing in the first place.
I've had problems with the refrigerator twice now and the first time, a fellow came out and replaced the thermostat. It started doing the same thing again, but it was our fault because we had some stuff up in the freezer that was blocking the vents which was causing the freezer to freeze up and kept the refrigerator from cooling. That was taken care of with no problem at all and the fridge is working good now. I was caught by surprise because I didn’t have to pay the man the deductible when the technician came out and they simply added it to my bill. I’m okay with it and it’s better that way. I’d definitely recommend American Home Shield.

In the seven years I've been with AHS, my overall experience has been positive. Sometimes I get a great experience but sometimes it's a terrible experience. It all depends on the contractor. Getting my AC unit repaired was a disaster because the first six times, AHS sent me a terrible contractor. By the time the contractor finally said he cannot handle the unit, he didn't know what to do whether it needs to be replaced. By that time, the air conditioning upstairs wasn't working well for over a month in the middle of summer.
I called AHS a number of times and they contacted the contractor. The contractor confronted AHS that he was going to call in a replacement for the unit. But when he called, he requested for another contractor. But the second contractor was great. He was able to repair the unit but he actually had to change almost everything in the unit. The first contractor was completely not up to the job and AHS was not managing their contractor well. And the main problem with AHS was that it's very difficult to reach them. They should put in more reps to answer the phone. I had to reach them about this specific issue many times, and every time it took over an hour. But once I reached them, it was a good experience and most of their reps were very helpful too.

My latest experience with AHS was good. I submitted a claim online for a dishwasher problem. They sent a repairman but he needed to order a part. After waiting for three days for the part to come in, he came back and fixed my dishwasher to my satisfaction. However, back when the dishwasher first stopped working, I called them and they sent somebody to fix it. The guy came out and Sears said it was fixed. However, it was not fixed. I called AHS and the lady I talked to said she'd call Sears to see what was going on. The ticket was still open online. I was holding on the line when we got cut off. I thought she'd call back. Five days later, no call and the ticket is closed.
We only found out that it still wasn’t fixed when my wife filled up the dishwasher and cut it on before going to bed. Then my wife wakes up and asked if I smelled smoke. We went down and saw that it was the dishwasher, so we cut it off. My wife was upset with me. I called AHS and told them I talked to a lady but never got a callback. I told them that the dishwasher wasn't fixed and yet the ticket is now closed. The person I was talking to was nice and calmed me down. She told me that they're going to send someone else out here and won't charge me for it. She gave me the tech's number and told me that if they can't get to me that day, then they'll get to me by the next day.
The techs called that same day and told me they'll get to me the next day and that's exactly what happened. They came out and checked it. I gave them the whole story. They put in a new part, but then told me that that it's something with the voltage thing. Their specialty was not the dishwasher so they were still missing some parts. They ordered what they needed and put it in. When I cut the dishwasher on I saw the water running and it was fixed. We had a little hiccup but they raised their game up to satisfy us here. I own a business myself and I understand that every once in a while you have a little hiccup. They're not perfect but when I told them what their mistake was, they fixed it. Right now, I'm happy and satisfied with their service and I would tell somebody to use them.

Then they took the money out of my account, which I already knew, but the order was closed without the plumbing issue getting fixed. It’s still doing the same thing it was doing before the technician came out. He just said, “Oh, it’s probably this.” It really wasn’t.
So now, I have to submit another claim. I will have to pay another $125, which I’ve been calling to make a complaint, but I can’t get through. I’ve been calling three days. It’s just frustrating. I’ve been to lunch, came back, it’s still on hold. By the time I get through, it’s like, “Okay, your hold time will be seven minutes.” And then it’s on hold and then they hang up when they get to the phone. And once I got the email, I called them and the representative took care of what I was asking for and got me set up pretty quickly with an appointment from our contractor. I've been with AHS since July when I bought the house. I’ve had two claims with the dishwasher and that was fixed. Last week, I made a claim on a refrigerator that is still in progress. The reps were good when I spoke with them on the phone. The only complaint I have is that when the guy came out today to try to fix the fridge with the parts, he ran into an issue. It has been two and a half weeks since my fridge went out and I’m probably looking at another two weeks without it.
The contractors have been amazing, been very upfront with me, very truthful, very organized, except for the first contractor that I had with the dishwasher since I couldn’t get in touch with them. The guy from that company pestered me for about a week, trying to come out and see it when I’ve already rescheduled. Another thing, it has been extremely hard for me to get in contact with AHS through the phone. Each time I called, I waited over an hour. Also, getting the replacement part or the new appliance has been a headache. And I’m not being informed what their decision is until a few days after.
On the other hand, DK Appliances has been coming out the last three times and I love them. The guys that they’ve sent out have been amazing. They came out once for the dishwasher, once for the initial visit for the fridge, and then came out again today to do the replacement part. I’m extremely happy that we decided to go with American Home Shield. We were going to go with another warranty company. Besides the few complaints that I have, everybody that I talked to has been very helpful, very informative and very understanding.
