I called American Home Shield because my toilet was leaking in my small bathroom. In the big bathroom, my grandson tried to put my sink on, but he messed up the pipe, so we couldn’t take it off. I figured somebody stronger could take it off.

The contractor came, and he was very courteous and nice. He showed me what I did wrong because I put the toilet tank myself. He let me know that I put the bolt on upside down, and that my sink in the small bathroom didn’t have a pipe on it. The toilet in the big bathroom has a bottom seal that keeps the smell from coming up, and he said the bolts were off. He had to get the approval from the company to fix all of that.

The only thing he fixed was the tank. He put the screws in it right side up. It’s perfect. He couldn’t fix everything else because they didn’t give me the approval to have it done. He said that the bolt on the toilet was missing and my tank didn’t have the pipe on it. If I had known they couldn’t provide that, I would have been happy to get it because I had everything. But I didn’t know until he got there. They sent me an email that only the toilet that he repaired was covered.

I’m getting older, and I can’t do what I used to do. Back in my day, I did everything for myself. If it’s something that I couldn’t do, I hire somebody.

I’m paying monthly, then I have to pay again when the contractor gets here. I read in the contract that each time they come out I had to pay $125. The representative told me that he would not charge me. But I went on and he had taken it anyway.

I would tell a friend or a family member to go somewhere else or check it out very closely and see what American Home Shield will do and not do. When people give me their words they’re going to do something, they’re gonna do it. Once I lose my trust, it’s not going back.

I don’t want them anymore. I’m not very satisfied with American Home Shield’s service.

We had a recent claim with American Home Shield for the washing machine. Sears said they were going to come out and they didn’t come out four times. I called and was very upset with them. I don’t know what’s going on. I kept calling AHS, and they said they could change the service company.

I really like Sears, the way they do their work. I have gotten really good service. AHS had this other contractor, and I didn’t get good service from them, but they keep coming back out. Finally, Sears came in and fixed the problem with my microwave one time. But as far as this service with the washing machine, it was pretty bad.

AHS called Sears, and Sears said somebody cancelled the service, and they don’t know who did it. It just shows that it was cancelled. Somebody dropped the ball on it, apparently. They did not tell anybody that it was cancelled. I wonder how it can be cancelled when I’ve been calling about why they are not coming out. They had taken $100 out already, but then they cancelled it. I didn’t understand that.

I have two homes under them. I have put a claim on my dryer because it was making a lot of noise, and the washing machine from my son’s house was not working. I opened two claims. So I don't know if that was an issue because they had the same phone number, and that’s what I kept trying to ask them, and they said no.

I don’t know what happened, but it was horrible. It was almost a month before we could get it fixed. My son's wife was without a washing machine, where she had to go to the laundromat and wash. She also did a little washing here at my house. She’s got three kids, and then her husband works. I was pretty upset about that.

She just said it’s just too much. That was a big issue there. I was very unhappy with the service for that. As for my dryer, everything went the way they said it was going to be. There’s times it’s just that I can’t get things done through them.

The customer service gives you what you want to hear, but it doesn’t follow through. It falls through the cracks. They're fine, but it'd be nice if they could follow through with the claim to make sure it's being addressed and getting it done, instead of answering the phone, just taking notes, and throwing it to the side. They should close it out, not the serviceman.

I have been with American Home Shield for three years because it was a good price, and all of a sudden, it got hiked up even higher. They hike everything back up if you use them. It's like a bad thing to use them. I just used them this one time, and now I’m paying almost $30 more.

When they hike up, they don’t hike up a little. For example, if I was paying $69, they went up to $117. I guess I’m paying back for what they did for me. I don't get it. I only use them if I need to, and my appliances were almost new. I just did it for my protection.

But I like them. I like the protection that if something breaks down, they come out. I don't have to pay $100 just for them to come out. Then the parts, another $300 and all that good stuff. I like the service and peace of mind.

I had an issue with my oven display quitting, so I set up a request online through American Home Shield, including a picture of the malfunctioning display. They responded with initial troubleshooting within a couple of days, and then they had to wait for parts to arrive, which took the better part of a week. During that time, they told me to go ahead and schedule and gave me an option to pick a date and time, and within a couple of days, the technician came out and fixed it.

I’ve had AHS off and on for years. My last house purchase included it in the agreement, and when I sold that house, I offered the coverage to the buyers. Then, two years ago, when we bought our current house, the seller agreed to put it on our house, and I’ve since extended the contract for an extra year.

I would definitely recommend American Home Shield for a new purchase because you don’t know the condition of the house, the appliances, the roof, or the plumbing. They’ve taken care of me every time I’ve needed them.

My first claim since coming back to American Home Shield was my washer and dryer. It was horrible. The tech that came out and assessed it was very polite and knowledgeable, but they needed parts to fix it. American Home Shield got some of them, but not all. We waited for over 30 days. They kept sending the technician back when I didn’t have the parts. It’s a waste of my time and the technician’s time because they don’t have all the parts they needed. The reps were very apologetic, but it wasn't helping because I’m missing time from work.

The communication was terrible. I talked to seven people and got escalated. They never told me they were sending parts or they sent parts to my house. I was out of town. That was very stressful for me. I finally called and asked them for a reimbursement for a brand-new washer and dryer. I don’t know what they want me to do with the parts now. I don’t really care for them anymore.

I went online and set up the request for service. We were not getting hot water in one of our bathrooms. We just needed them to take a look at the water heater to make sure it was okay. They were responsive right away. American Home Shield turned around and told me who the company was that was going to be making the service call. It was a couple of days. They scheduled it and told me when they were gonna do it. They showed up ahead of time, which I wasn't ready for. But they came back at the appointed time. They looked at the problem. They figured out a few different things. Fortunately, I had a spare part in my garage that fit that particular thing. And they were able to install it. The first time they tried it, it wasn't working. But then the plumber turned around and tried a different method. And it worked. They were able to fix the problem. Fortunately, it wasn't an emergency situation, so that was the good part about it. I was a little hesitant at first. Because it wasn't an emergency situation, and it turned out that they were able to respond within a day or two.
Once I had a bad leak, I needed somebody right away to come in and try to repair the problem. And they couldn't deliver or get somebody to come. They literally told me it was gonna be a week. Obviously, I can't go a week without water in the house. And so I was not very happy. But I decided I'll stick with them anyway, just in case. It was a one-shot deal. It did cost me at the time. And that's where I really thought, “Is this really worth it or not?” So back then, I almost really considered canceling it because I'm paying this money. I've only used them twice. But the one time that I really needed them right then and there, they couldn't deliver on what I needed.

That's where my concern with American Home Shield is, whether they would be able to respond in a timely manner to be able to fix the problem that I have. And I would have thought that the whole purpose of this was that if something broke that was critical, they'd be able to provide me with the service that I need right then and there. That’s what I would have assumed that it was about, how this is supposed to work. But I've only had that one experience. That one incident really disappointed me. I would hope that if there was any consolation to that, they would improve that aspect of what they're doing. I originally bought it when we got the house. And the time when it ended—fortunately, I didn't have to use it during the initial period that I got it. I really considered not following through with it, but maybe I should stick to it.

I had an issue with the hot water tank, so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield over the phone, and I found the process to be easy. I really enjoyed working with McKean Plumbing. They were very responsive. I am not a trusting person. I think all contractors are shady. I’m a landlord, and I have AHS through another, so I deal with contractors all the time.

This particular contractor was very responsive. He returned my calls right away, was punctual, and came over when he said he would. I have even kept them in my notes as a future reference of someone that I would call back. He was really good.

What I like about American Home Shield is the minimum wait time on the phone to get an agent. Normally, I was able to get a person within a couple of minutes. Even though the automated system said my wait time would be up to 10, it was never that long. I made multiple calls, and it was always under 5 minutes, which was great.

Since this is my first claim, I did notice a slight language barrier that I had to kind of navigate through. I know they outsource a lot of these to call centers. Every time I called, they were extremely nice, but it would be helpful if there were a few more American-speaking people.

I used them before at another place. I had one guy come over to snake out my drain and pull out a couple of little tree roots. At the end of the day, I love the fact that he walked out, and I didn’t give him a dime. Everything was paid for. I felt I could have done what he did.

But I’m paying a monthly payment to Home Shield, so I said I’m going to call and use them. So it was fine. I got the service done for free, but I almost could have paid $300 to someone else. I feel like once they get a contractor and sign up with Home Shield, there's no way to monitor what some of these people are doing.

They’re coming over and doing the least, but their money stays the same. I feel like they need to be accountable. AHS needs to make sure they’re doing what they say they’re doing, because they’re going to come over, spend 20 minutes, walk out the door, and they’re going to call Home Shield and say, “I’m done. Send me my money.”

In terms of the price, there were a lot of things I had to pay. I still have to pay out-of-pocket. I got a hot water tank, but I still have to pay $500 for non-included items, but it was still less than that. So, I got to watch that little fine print and make sure I know exactly what I’m getting. I like to use Home Shield for major things that are really broken that’s going to cost me a lot of money out of pocket.

The guy said to give it 24 to 48 hours. I gave it 48 hours, and it still didn’t work. And then I received a notification from American Home Shield that the ticket was closed. And we called back Authorized Services and said that it’s still not working, and they said that I need to go back to American Home Shield. AHS did not have anything on their prompt to say if you need to reopen a ticket. So, I kept getting in a loop on their dial thing, and it took a while to find the right place to go to.

We had AHS for years, and then we broke up. I dated around, and then I came back. We’ve been in our house for almost 20 years.

But honestly, AHS is easy to work with. We’ve had some past experiences where we had to actually find our own resources, but that wasn’t enough to deter me from going back to them or sticking with them. But overall, it’s been an easy process. Their price feels pricey since we don’t have a lot of tickets, but for this particular incident, it may turn out that it’s worth it.

    I wasn’t that impressed. They’re not a 5-star deal.

There was a leaking drain in an upstairs bathroom sink, so the technician told me he would replace the drain mechanism. After he left, I went upstairs to see the sink, and this big black plastic replacement drain that he put into the chrome pipes under the sink was totally visible.

I did not ask him to show me what he had done before he left, so that was my fault, and I can’t blame them for it. I did send pictures to Emergency Plumbing & Rooter and also reached out to American Home Shield, and it was the technician’s manager who said it was fixed and that it doesn’t matter about the aesthetics.

I had them come out for other plumbing issues. The water in our clothes washer backs up out of the hose when we do the laundry, and we figured that there’s a block somewhere. The tech said the P-trap was under the floor and should be above the clean-out, but he didn’t want to mess with it because we have old pipes. We were gonna get the house repiped anyway, so I said that was fine.

I also had a leaking toilet. My husband thought the wax ring needed to be replaced, but the tech said it’s a loose tank. He tightened only one of the screws, so the tank is now a little crooked. He also tightened a loose handle on one of my faucets.

For my dishwasher, I can’t put the little pod into the door because the lid won’t close and hold it there. The control panel at the top has a little piece of it missing and another part that looks worn. American Home Shield argued with me and determined that it was all physical damage, not wear and tear. I let it go because the washer is 24 years old, and it still works.

I’m not a picky guy who calls for every little thing, and the one time I do call, they should have covered it and they didn’t. I would absolutely not recommend it to anybody.

I had two appliances that had issues and didn’t get a positive resolution. One appliance was my washing machine, which had a leak and was making a sound. The other one was the oven with malfunctioning digital controls.

American Home Shield does cover regular wear and tear, but when the guys came out, they looked at everything and said both will not be covered because the washer broke due to overloading and the oven was badly handled.

The strange thing is the washer was a high-end Speed Queen for industrial use and the only way to overload it is by putting rocks in. It wasn’t new nor old, but those machines should last 20 years.

I did call back American Home Shield and they sent out another person to look at it, but I ended up buying another dryer and throwing that one out.

As for my cooktop, the guy said one thing when he was here, and then on his report, he said another. Something’s changed in the company because the way that they handled both claims seemed like they didn’t want to take responsibility of that. This could have been an easy, inexpensive fix, and they would have kept a happy customer.

It’s actually the second time they came out. The first time I used their service about a year and a half ago, it was okay. It wasn’t great and took a long time and a lot of phone calls. This time I told them I would be canceling my service.

If they would have held up what the agreement is, then I think the price would be very reasonable, but considering that they held up on nothing, even $10 is expensive if its $0 return. At least they answer all the time. I get an answering service in India or one of those, but they can’t really assess and/or help. The call center, they have yes and no questions, and then they go down the line and whatever the answer on the bottom is, it is that. I still would like somebody to explain to me how an industrial washer that is within its lifetime can be overloaded.

I've been managing properties for three decades. When something goes wrong, I could call five or six vendors to get quotes every time. I could do that and spend my time doing that. But if American Home Shield will do that for me, and they have some people I trust, it makes life a little easier. I'd rather pay them to do it. They also dispatch good contractors. We like that they help us manage our multiple properties.

However, we could all be a little more efficient and maybe they could have more English-speaking people. They do about as well as the rest of them. However, when I have an issue and call them, I get somebody reading a script. When the problem is not on their script, then it becomes a challenge. Their monthly prices also keep going up. Overall, I still think they're probably the best home warranty company you can find and a great help to manage properties.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield because I had some heating issues. It took a week for the contractor to get scheduled to come out. When they came, they had to order parts and come back. Everything’s functioning now like it should be.

My experience was not bad. The only negative I can say is that the call center is full of foreigners, and I don’t know exactly where they’re from. At times, they’re very difficult to understand and have to repeat themselves quite often for me to get what they’re saying. I also think that their deductible is a little bit high in comparison.

AHS has been good. I don’t always care for the companies that they employ. I’ve had issues, like when I called in for a dishwasher repair. That particular company really screwed me over. I was extremely mad at them, and I was going to go out, give them my two cents, and they got on the ball right after that.

They did the repair, but the repair was not satisfactory. My machine was still damaged, and I just didn’t want to go through the process again for another repair and deductible. So I just pulled that dishwasher out and bought a new one.

They have done nothing but take our premiums and service fees. They wouldn’t even replace a $20 part for the microwave and instead the technician “cleaned” the old part and two weeks later sparks flew again. We bought the $20 part ourselves on Amazon and no problem since but paid $125 for the first service call. Next was the dishwasher. Said it was fixed and put back and was going to leave and I asked why water was still leaking from the bottom. Oh I didn’t mop it up sorry. Mops it up. Still leaking and he had to open it all up again and suddenly found a broken part. Wow. Now my oven door shattered after I used the broiler. All I did was open the door and turned around to grab something and I heard a pop like a rock hitting your windshield. I looked back and the door was completely cracked.

AHS sent someone out who said he’d try to get them to cover it. Nope - they said it was user error and something dropped on it. Uh no! We called and complained and they sent another company out. The guy ordered a new oven door but AHS denied it again. So now we are out the service fees and the door is still cracked. We could have just replaced the door ourselves. Silly us to think our insurance coverage would cover repairs. Canceling and never ever doing business with them again. Better to put the premium money into your own emergency fund instead.

I had a washing machine problem and the contractor from AHS had to replace some parts.

I learned the hard way, when my water heater had a problem, that if I go online and have a situation that's pretty dire, I can't express that online. Once I submit a ticket, that's it. They can't change anything about it.

It took two weeks to get hot water. It was horrible. They wouldn't do anything to expedite it or to escalate it or to change anything about it. They wouldn't even let me retract it and resubmit it as one of these emergency tickets. So, I only call now so that I can talk to a person and tell them specifically how urgent it is and hope that they do something to help me out. It's not just the hot water heater.

There was another issue too, where I had a water leak and they wouldn't come look at it for a week. I had water leaking for a week and they would not expedite. They said because I had submitted the ticket online, that they could not create any sense of urgency about it because the ticket already existed and it didn't express the urgency of it, even though the ticket did say it was a water leak. There's water gushing out. I turned the water off to my house to stop it. And so, I had no water in my house for 10 days. It was a very long time. And they did nothing to try to expedite that. It was horrible.

The washing machine thing wasn't as big a deal because I just had to go down to the laundromat to do my laundry. And that got done in a pretty reasonable time. It took about a week. But when you don't have hot water or you don't have water, those are urgent situations. And they handled that really poorly. So, I learned that if you do submit a ticket online -- which they had recommended that I do, every time I call in to submit a ticket, they recommend that I do it online. And I have to tell them I've gotten burned twice doing that.

I hate that I have to deal with AHS. They don't care about their customers at all. They're the worst. And they've been so horrible to deal with that I would just go get another company. But I haven't. I'm just hoping I don't have to use them again.

The quality of work is good and the price is competitive, but I did have one experience with a plumber that was not good. They should never recommended that particular plumber. He came in and broke the water line when he was trying to fix it. That was crazy. And then he had to fix that and he left a huge mess. I try not to get into it with them too much, because the couple times that I had a real serious problem and I tried to escalate it, they will not escalate problems. They'll do anything in their power to shut you up and have you just accept whatever's happening. It's crazy how bad they are.

American Home Shield covers the parts and labor, but not the gas, so they’re good value within limits.

The air-conditioning unit that I had Efficient Air Systems come out for was not operating on the heat pump. It was only doing emergency heat.

I reached out to AHS online. The website is pretty intuitive. It took me a little while to get familiar with it and to go around, but everything was readily available once I looked around. I didn’t need to call anybody and didn’t have any questions. It was all good. They got back within 24 hours.

The gentleman who did the initial troubleshooting said the control board was the problem, and he verified that the pressures and charge on the system were all good. But the quote from American Home Shield I got was for the control board, as well as for 2 lbs. of gas that I didn’t need.

I told AHS and Efficient Air, and the lady from Efficient Air said she will investigate. I never heard from her again, but the tech did show up and installed the board, but did not put in any gas. He checked the pressures, and everything was good.

AHS is gonna save money in most instances, but not all. Be aware of what those limitations are. I didn’t pay for it. We bought the house and the sellers paid for it, but if I were paying for it out of pocket, I would rate it a good solid B.

I wouldn’t recommend American Home Shield to anybody. I’ve had times where it was awesome, like that time a bathtub was stopped up. But in my 12 years with them, one experience put them at the bottom of the barrel because it took three months, and they didn’t resolve the case.

I had an electrical outage and put the claim in on Jan. 7. I called AHS and they sent down a guy, who arrived later than the window he said he would. He looked at it and said it wasn’t something that could be fixed right away, and that he was gonna come back to do a real diagnosis. We rescheduled, and again he was late. He hung around, looking outside, taking the light fixture down and doing a few things, then said he was going to get somebody to help him.

I called American Home Shield and they contacted him, but he never showed up for the next three rescheduled dates. I asked them to get somebody else but AHS said they can’t until he submits the paperwork of what his diagnosis is.

By March 7th, I’m pleading. Somebody finally agreed to send somebody else out, but that contractor did less than what the other guy did. He said the house needed rewiring and that he was going to send it back in to get that approved. I gave it about four days. By the time the lady I talked to said I had to call a number to get that work approved, I asked them to cancel my service.

I ended up calling an electrical company to come out to my house, and they charged me $225. All he did was go upstairs and reconnect a line in the attic where a squirrel had gotten to it, and I had power. With AHS, I spent $500 in three months, with no lights to use.

To this day, we don't have a working washer. It just shuts off mid-cycle. And the last time the contractor was out here, he told me to try and use it to fix with a 50/50 shot, and that it would work or that it wouldn't work.

I tried it as soon as he left, and it still shut off mid-cycle. It wouldn't drain out from the bottom of the washer. I called him back and he said, "Well, I don't have an answer right now. I'll have to do some research and give you a call back hopefully tomorrow. But if not tomorrow, then hopefully, Monday." I’m still without a washer.

I spoke to AHS this morning and they said that they reached out to the contractor and that he's supposed to be calling the manufacturer of the washer to see why they would be getting this, but it's just been a very long, drawn-out process. Every other claim has been very good. Good contractors. Open and closed out very easily with fixes.

Our hot water heater was working, but the water capacity was reduced so it wouldn't fill a bathtub. You could shower effectively, but you could not fill the bathtub. So, my husband went online and submitted the claim and then they called. He explained the issue. When the workmen from Murray's Plumbing and Heating got there, they suggested a $400 repair. It wasn't necessarily going to fix the problem because it was a water capacity issue, not a water heating issue.

So, we went outside American Home Shield, and got an independent opinion. And he said that the silt in the water heater was so much. That's what was creating the capacity issue. We ended up spending more and putting in a new water heater. But the $400 that they wanted to charge us for a repair, we could at least put towards a new water heater versus a repair that wasn't going to correct the issue.

I called American Home Shield and told them that the requested repair didn't make sense and we had an independent plumber come out. And that it was verified that it's a capacity issue, not a heating issue–it was the age of the water heater. And although it heated still, there was so much silt or buildup in the bottom of the water heater.

The other claim was for the dishwasher repair. It was less of a waste of money and more of a waste of time. The guy came out and told us to replace our dish detergent, so we replaced it. But it didn't correct the problem. We had to call them back out again. And we requested someone different. The person identified the problem immediately and ordered the parts. However, it added another three weeks on to our downtime of our dishwasher.

He replaced parts–the dishwasher seal and the spinning thing on the bottom that shoots the water. So, the second time they came out, it corrected the problem.

The contractors are very responsive–usually within 24 to 48 hours. Except for this instance. If the guy had come and identified the issue correctly on the dishwasher, we would have had two weeks of downtime versus having to call again, bring someone out, and then have the two-week part-time and then calling to schedule, to tell them that we have received the parts so they can schedule the visit.

We have AHS in Colorado. And we had excellent vendors that came out. So, when we moved here, we waited a year because of financial priorities. We had replaced all the appliances and decided that we should have the same warranty to reduce the unexpected cost. However I think there is a difference regionally in who their contracted parties are. Either we got lucky in Colorado and had exceptionally good vendors or it’s just we had a run of bad luck on plumbers here.

The coverage of AHS is good however the vendor selection could be improved. It could just be the two that we had. Because there were more plumbing issues versus something else. And it was interesting that they gave us two different vendors for plumbing issues. There should be consistency in assigning one vendor to an account.

If our experience with American Home Shield weren't good, I would have canceled. The contractors are sometimes less than knowledgeable. But they've been fine.

I'm an advocate for Home Shield. All my buddies that just bought a brand new house are like, "Y'all are stupid if you don't get Home Shield, at least just for the AC unit. Never mind the appliances. You could pay for your own appliances. But for the home one, no." I love Home Shield. For all the big stuff, it works 100%. It's very convenient.

For my plumbing issue, the plumber came out late. He stayed from 8:45 to 10 o'clock. The only thing that sucks is when I called, I had two bathrooms that I needed fixed, but when he came out, he was like, "No, we're only allocated for one." But he did help. He did fix both of them because he came late. So, it all worked out. It was great.

American Home Shield is reliable in terms of coverage. I have it on this property for two months now and I have it for my other property for around two years already.

I usually file over the phone because the website is confusing to me. It used to be easier. There was a time that I couldn't see my second property on the site, so I called them and they updated it. Then when I was in the middle of the claims process with the washer, I had to call them to show the name. They had to update it and I had to check later.

Their contractors are perfect for me. When the service guy couldn't fix the washer, He filed a report and we received the cash. We already got a new one. Everything was perfect.

Overall, submitting claims is simple and easy to use, and I usually don’t ever speak to anyone because it’s all online. Then, they send someone out within 24 hours, and they’re knowledgeable and quick to figure out what's wrong with the issue and fix it. As for the warranty price, it is a little higher than it used to be, but everything rises.

When I first called, I told American Home Shield that my fan was going in and out, and the evaporator coil up there might need to be replaced or cleaned because air wasn't coming in properly. So the guy from Royal Flush came. He checked outside, but never went up there. He automatically told me that it was a compressor and that was it.

I didn't get a bill handed or signed. So I looked at my email, and it said that it needed 14 pounds but the crazy part about it is that I just got my AC serviced the previous year. They were the same company that came out. That time, they told me that my AC was fine and they did what they needed to do on their part. They never said anything about my compressor. They said my Freon was good.

I called American Home Shield and told them something is not right and asked if I can get a second evaluation. They went ahead and got a 2nd evaluation. They told me that it was not the compressor, it was just a wire harness. It was a totally different evaluation. And these people went upstairs and checked the coil. The guy said that there was a little leak right out where the valve was, and that needed to be welded. It was just a small thing, but it was probably what was causing the air not to come through properly.

I didn't have to pay for the American Home Shield for the second visit because it was a totally different work order. The other guy who came through gave me a work order sheet, a piece of paper that told me what was needed. And I signed on it. Royal Flush didn't do that. The compressor was fine, but Royal Flush said I needed a completely new one, but that wasn't even the problem. It was just a wire harness that was burnt out.

AHS’s customer service is good. Their price went up a little bit more, but I've stayed with them. I like them.

I had a problem with the dishwasher door. It flopped open, that if I was standing in front of the dishwasher, the handle will hit the top of my foot and hurt my foot. We called American Home Shield, and they sent a gentleman out. When he got here, I told him not to open the door all the way. He actually did, and the door slammed down. Now I got a little indentation on my hardwood floor. That did not make me happy. He looked at it and saw that a clamp for one of the brackets in the back rear was not holding it in place.

He went to Home Depot and came back with a quarter-inch aluminum bar that he measured, cut, and anchored at a 45-degree angle and some sheet metal screws out. He put it on the bottom frame connected to a vertical bar. In short, he jury-rigged it instead of replacing that part. He was very nice and pleasant and, I’m assuming, knowledgeable. He tried to make do with the easiest, quickest, and cheapest solution and fixed it to where it doesn’t slap on the floor. But it’s not the way I felt that it should have been taken care of. He said American Home Shield doesn’t cover that. To me, that was part of their promo where they said, “If we can’t fix it, we’ll replace it.”

I’m assuming it’s fine now since no one’s complained. But when we first got it, we could open it up to 45, 50, or 60 degrees and it would stay there. Now, it does not flop anymore but it will still open to 90 degrees. It doesn’t open slowly or stay in a position. It’ll just continue to open until it’s open all the way.

I had another issue in January when I called about a dripping faucet on a deep tub. The faucet comes out of the wall, and it has a constant drip. The plumber didn’t have a key to take out the center core of the water handles, so he had to order that. It has to pass through about six different hands before they would get it. That means I’ve been waiting since January to get this fixed. I was getting ready to call American Home Shield and tell them that I want my money back and I’ll go get my own plumber.

Not too long ago, there was leaking by the hot water tank and I didn't know where it was coming from. It was such a small amount. It sprayed and slowly came out. I called American Home Shield and Ohio Hydrojetting came out. They found it was a pipe right next to the water pipe that was leaking. The guy who came out was very friendly and professional, and I couldn't have had anybody nicer. He fixed it fast, too. He took the pipe and the shutoff valve was broken as well. He had to go into town to get that part. Also, every time he goes out of the house, he comes into the house and puts these little booties on his feet so nothing gets dirty. He had to turn the water off, which is clear out by the road. He was fantastic and I'll be very happy to have him come back again. I would recommend AHS.

The only funny thing was that I didn't know if they were coming. AHS said he'll be there. We had contact through text but it was a little obscure. I was thinking between 12:00 and 8:00 but I thought was a long time to know if Ohio Hydrojetting were actually coming. I had gone to the dentist and was thinking if they will really gonna show up, then the guy called and said, "I'll be there in half an hour. I'm almost there." I was really surprised. Also, it happened on a Saturday night and nobody would come on Sunday. I don't know what they can do about finding people on a Sunday. That’s impossible everywhere.

American Home Shield gives you the name of the contractor, but they don’t get into whether they are licensed, bonded, or insured, nor into experience or specialties. It’s just calling a plumber a plumber. Is it plumbers who do water heaters or electricians? There’s not nearly enough information.

For older appliances, it’s probably a worthwhile cost. I pay a fair price. I buy what I buy, and the service should live up to whatever the initial expenses are. I got an old home, and I’ve utilized their services.

The only issue that I ever have is the timeline for acquiring parts. That’s always a process because of the unknown origin from which the part is being ordered. Not to blame the technician, but the manufacturer. When Appliance Repair Guru came out for a refrigerator, it was a bad fan motor. The technician was very knowledgeable and a pleasant gentleman, and he explained what the process was and went to work. He put the new part in after one was ordered.

I submitted the claim through normal channels online, as I always have. As far as being intuitive, the site takes a bit of doing. It needs reading and paying attention to get through it.

The same issue was with the kitchen faucet. I’ve had a series of weirdness happen. Northwest Sundance Services replaced the kitchen faucet, which was amazing and I’m super happy about that. Then the toilet in the guest bathroom wouldn’t stop running. But, all of the situations that came up were handled well. Everybody was knowledgeable, fast, and got things done. And the quality of the contractors is excellent.

I call to submit claims and I talk to someone, then they will text me back and I’ll hear from somebody right away. It has been much easier with American Home Shield than it was with the other home insurance agency that I was with for 10 years.

I like their knowledge and affordability, and they seem to have adequate staffing. They’re very thorough like when I call to make an appointment, they would ask if I had anything else that I needed help with. The other company I was with for a much longer time didn’t do that. Each item had to be separated. So, I thought that that was efficient on their side and my side. Nobody wastes anybody’s time. Also, AHS says that if they cannot fix an issue, they will replace the problematic item. I have sold AHS to about five different people already. It’s an absolute necessity if you own a home.

I used the American Home Shield app to file a claim for the exhaust fans of my three bathrooms. However, there's no way I could input the three bathrooms on the app. I assumed that under one technician, all three bathrooms would be checked because it's the same type. I spoke to another person a couple of weeks ago, and I can't explain that there were three bathrooms with the same issue. Thirty minutes before the estimated arrival time of the technician, I called American Home Shield just to inform them of my three bathrooms. I didn't get a hold of anybody, so I left a voicemail

The technician came with his ladder that only went up a certain height. My ceilings happen to be high, so he actually had to stand on the highest step and it just felt dangerous. This guy wasn't very tall himself. But the ladder that he brought just showed that he actually was not completely prepared. In the end, he wasn’t able to fix the exhaust fan because there was a plastic object behind the electrical outlet, which nobody knew about.

When he was leaving, I told him that there's two more bathrooms to look at. But he said that the other two were not on the claim given to him. I told him about the app. He explained that he works with a lot of different warranty services, they only do whatever is on their file. He told me to call American Home Shield. I didn't have a good experience with him from the moment he showed up. I don't feel like he was prepared with his ladder and his unwillingness to work with me.

When I called back to explain the issue, the guy was understanding, and even acknowledged where the app went wrong. But I never had trouble reaching customer service except from the time I called before the technician came. Still they have good customer service, because they call back.

However, American Home Shield marked my claim as not normal wear and tear because of the plastic object that was behind there. I'm not a handyman, so there was no way I would have known that the reason why it wasn't working was because of that paper for that plastic thing. Since they've already listed it as unable to be fixed, they're not gonna come back for free. In order for them to come back, they wanted me to file a new ticket which costs $100. They were saying that if I want to argue it, they could come back and reassess. But if they found that it's still my fault that there was a plastic thing, then I have to pay another $100. I was frustrated because I have the highest warranty plan with American Home Shield, and it became so complicated to fix something. In the end, I had to have another electrician come to fix all three of them.

I feel confident having a condo because we have American Home Shield. My husband and I are not repair people, so it’s very reassuring to know that you don't have to have a handyman on call at all times. It’s nice to know that I have somebody who can come over and take care of an issue if we have one at the house. I feel that the price you’re paying is worth having the security of knowing that if something breaks down, they’ll come over and fix it.

I had Automatic Control Corp. come over to check out the air conditioning and make sure it was all set. I submitted my request online, and most of the time the site is pretty user-friendly. I've used it a few times, but I did have a couple of issues because it wouldn't give me the option for a central air conditioning unit for some reason. But when the contractors came to the house, they were able to take care of the issue. American Home Shield provides you the company’s name, and then the company calls and says what time they’ll be here. The contractors they’ve sent out were all very good. I've had no issues with any of them.

The only thing is, I had to have a couple of things replaced when I first moved into my condo and American Home Shield put in kind of cheaper stuff. I had a dripping faucet and they replaced it, but it was with a cheaper model. Same thing with the thermostat, I would have liked to have had a programmable one placed in and I would have paid the difference, but that was never an option. It’s just whatever’s there, they just replace it as opposed to being able to upgrade.

I’m on a fixed income and I pay every month, but most of the time we don’t even have problems. I was getting ready to cancel because this is money going out that I could be putting toward a car instead. I feel like I’m wasting my money. I could just save it and wait until something happens to take care of it myself.

The Sears technician came out. He showed me what the problem was and then he fixed it. Everything about our interaction is great. American Home Shield provides great service. Although their price expensive, they have good online tools and they are very dependable and prompt.

I had a claim for a heating issue, and it went great. So, I sent the request in, and they called me within a few hours and then sent somebody out. It was cold, and so that was good. And then the technician came, and within half an hour, he had everything going. It had something to do with the spark igniter. So, everything worked well. It was wonderful. I had to pay $125 for service calls, and I don't know what it would cost for that. But other than that, it was good.

My experience with American Home Shield was mildly disappointing. Recently, I had a leak at an outside faucet behind the wall, so I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield. The service from the guy at Dave’s Plumbing and Repair was excellent. Unfortunately, they called AHS, and AHS denied the claim. Dave’s Plumbing was very helpful, but AHS did not resolve the claim.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about two years now. I thought it was a reasonable price and coverage. I’ve only had one claim, but they need to be very clear about what is covered and what is not covered so that I don't pay a fee to get a technician out here only to have the claim denied, and now I've wasted my fee and still have to pay the plumber to do the work on my own. They need to be very clear at the point you put in a claim if it is covered or not covered before you pay the fee. Unfortunately, since I did it online, we only talked after the fee was paid and after the plumber was here and I called them to ensure that it was a legitimate claim.

The AC's thermostat just turned off and the AC just turned off. AHS sent out a tech and he fixed it. It was working fine for two weeks at the most, then the same thing happened again. He came back out and he said it was the same thing. And the thermostat's battery worked, but the AC still wouldn't turn on. So he fixed it again and said it was due to a loose wire in the furnace. He also said that I had to pay another $125, that I had to do another ticket. But I told him that I thought there was a 30-day guarantee. He said it was for only a few days. But that didn't make any sense.

My husband told me to just pay the money because it was the AC but I told him that you're really not supposed to pay again. The tech already came out for the same thing and if he didn't do the job right, he needed to fix the problem and not charge me again. If you're not going to fix it completely right and it's going to break and make the person pay again, that's kind of like a scam almost. I also told the people from American Home Shield about it and that I was not going to pay again for the same thing. They just said they understood and it was somebody from overseas. So they said they would be making a note of it. Then a local guy came out and fixed it.

I've had American Home Shield for many years. I use them and I liked the service. I liked the fact that, if anything happened, you can just call. I know a lot of realtors use it too. My daughter did real estate, so she knew a little bit about it too. The only thing I didn't really like was my experience when I had some plumbing issues one time. They sent a very young plumber out and I didn't feel really comfortable, since he said he had only been doing plumbing for a year.

I also had a problem when I had an issue with my refrigerator and my microwave. They charged me the money and the techs they assigned were very standoffish on scheduling times. I wanted them to come in the evening time but at 8:00 at night but they asked if we could meet up with us around 2:00-ish. So, we couldn't get a time and a day scheduled. Then, I wanted to meet around 2:00 on a Wednesday or a Monday, and they didn't want to meet up at that time. So, they got paid the $125 to do nothing because the refrigerator got fixed on its own when I defrosted it.

For the microwave, they never came back for that and it's still broken. All they did was get paid. So I don't ever want to use those people again. We felt like they put us on the back burner because they were not making as much money as they would if they were doing the service on their own. It seemed like we were not priority. So, I would wait to see how AHS would respond to me for the next year and so far, I wouldn't recommend them 100%.

I joined American Home Shield in September. I always try to have a home warranty, and I saw AARP recommends them. Their monthly rates are lower, but the $100 service fee is supposed to cover everything. I’m finding out with these companies, they don’t really cover stuff. This now is extra money I gotta pay out.

Actually, the job is not finished. I had a clogged sink line that worked fine for one day, then the next day, I had water leaking in the basement and part of a ceiling. It’s supposed to be a pipe in the wall that rotted out. My sink is clogged, I can’t use my kitchen, so it is like an emergency, but they don’t have nobody you could talk to. I usually get in touch with someone, but I can hear dogs in the background barking. They’re not putting you in touch with the real people. It’s just a phone answerer.

The person from Water Control came out and he diagnosed the problems, so that’s good. But he was tied up with some more jobs. He said, “I’ll call you back later today,” but I haven’t got that call back yet and I’ve made a couple calls. As of now, I haven’t heard. I’m on hold. I don't know when this is going to be fixed. I have a co-pay, but American Home Shield wants me to pay more too. They say that’s not covered with this. With all of this that’s going on now, it’s not covered.

I’ve only paid the $100 service fee for the first call, and they sent me an invoice that say I owe $100. Because I paid when I called in first with the credit card, I just disregard it. It’s important to have a home warranty, but until you really use it, you don’t really know. I think I would want a company that has emergency service, that you could talk to somebody.

I’ve used American Home Shield before with everything. I was just in such disbelief because we never had this problem. They’ve been out and worked on the knobs on the washer. We had our air conditioner replaced with them and the thermostat, and we just never had this problem. But this right here was almost like a deal breaker. I really thought about just cancelling it, and my husband said to just wait and see if anybody responds. I started out paying $70 something, and now I pay $128 a month. As much as I pay, I probably could have bought a new dryer every month with this.

My washer would not go into a drain cycle. It wasn’t drying the clothes out to where you could put them in a dryer. The first guy stated he couldn’t fix it because it was a stackable, and nobody told him it was a stackable. Then he said the drain pipe needed cleaning, but we tried it again and it didn’t work again. American Home Shield sent another guy out, and then he said that the drainpipe just needed changing. It needed a new drain pipe. He changed that, and then it didn’t do it, it still didn’t go into the cycle. Home Shield sent him back again, and then he said it was some kind of motherboard that needed changing. So he said that they would order that. When the parts came, they said that they would come back that Wednesday, but the repairman cancelled that day. Then Saturday, they cancelled. Then Monday, he cancelled. That right there, that’s a lot to take in.

He finally did come back and put that motherboard thing on. After he had left for about 10 minutes, I put a load of clothes in and it started making this real, real loud noise. I was on the phone with Home Shield while the guy was listening to it. I’ve had a knee replacement and I said, “I’m trying to get this thing off because I don’t know, I don’t want it to cause a fire and we can’t get out of the house.” They said they couldn’t send him back that day because he had to go on to another thing. I said, “Well, they didn’t have no problems cancelling my visit when I was having problems.” That’s all I got was cancellations. And then another guy came to actually fix the issue. But that started on March 19th and it didn’t end until April 5th.

I was very upset. I’m a nurse and I have a knee replacement. I had to pay other people to do my washing because I couldn’t go to the laundromat. You only draw on short-term disability, you get 66% of your salary, so that was another added expense. I would have felt better if the technician would have said, “I do apologize for the cancellation. And I know that that might have made a hardship on you. But I did have some unforeseen things that came up.” Because I know things do come up. But can say the coverage of American Home Shield was great because I didn’t have to pay any additional or anything.

The appliance stopped working, and the technician didn’t know how to diagnose the problem. He came back with a part he thought was right, but it wasn’t. Then Axis Appliance sent out another technician who also didn’t know how to diagnose the issue. He ordered a part that didn’t fix it either. The appliance is still broken, and it’s been over four months.

Axis Appliance didn’t know how to fix the Maytag washer. They told American Home Shield that it needs to be replaced because they can’t fix it, and that part is true. American Home Shield says they’re waiting on Axis Appliance to officially tell them they can’t fix it, and that’s where things stand right now.

And for the last three weeks, that’s been the routine. Axis Appliance keeps telling American Home Shield that they can’t fix it. American Home Shield keeps telling me they’re waiting on the report from Axis Appliance so they can send it to their purchasing department to replace the washer. And this has been going on for four months now.

My recommendation is not to mess with American Home Shield. My contract doesn’t end until October, and I’m trying to figure out how to get out of it without paying them any more money. I’ve lived up to my end of the contract, but they haven’t lived up to theirs.

I’ve had some plumbing issues, like the toilet, and they sent a plumber who fixed it. I also had minor leaks under the kitchen sink, and contractors fixed that too. But when it comes to appliances, no. While I was away from home, the gas company emailed me saying they detected a low‑pressure issue and shut my gas off.

American Home Shield sent a plumber from F6 Plumbing. They wanted $550 and said I wasn’t covered from my house to the meter. They didn’t check for any leaks inside my home. My contract says the service call is $125 and some change plus 8.25%. My previous contract said $100 plus 8.25%. Both contracts read the same, and says nothing about tax.

I signed up for a plan that cost $50 per month. Nine months later they bumped it to $76 without notifying me. When I tried to cancel, I had to call, and the computer would not understand "cancel the agreement' or provide that option. Once I got a person, I had to be transferred to the "Resolution Department." One call was dropped while waiting for 10 minutes. I went through this again. The resolution person kept ignoring my request and tried to sell me on continuing. Then I lost her. The third time I managed to cancel.

I’ve been here in this house and I’ve made about five claims. The process is easy and I would rather do it online than to call and speak to an operator. But from my last experience, I’m gonna call them and speak to an operator because I ended up spending more money. It was a mix up in how I made the claim.

I had an initial issue of not having any hot water. When I submitted a claim online, I had to go through different categories and I had to click on hot water. And then up under water heater was “no hot water”. I don’t know what the problem was but it ended up being a leak. When NC Plumbing came out, they flushed it and they changed the elements. When they left, I still didn’t have hot water.

I ended up having to make another claim and pay more money. When I called AHS, they said that the people that came out the first time fixed the issue so I was having a different issue. It has already been a week without no water at all. I didn’t want the water to be running so I went out there and cut my water off.

I had called back because I was gonna cancel my services with them. I feel like in customer service, the customer is always right or they should at least try to listen to the customer and see what they’re trying to say. But this one rep was talking over me and wouldn’t let me talk.

When I went ahead and paid for the second claim, I thought I shouldn’t have to pay. So I called back and the rep that I talked to understood and refunded me my money. But then when NC Plumbing came out that day to fix the problem, the tech said it was something leaking up under the house. I tried to explain to him I had no leak before they came out and did what they did the first time. But then when they left, I still didn’t have hot water and now something’s leaking up under the house.

He called AHS and he put me on the phone with them. The rep kept saying I had to pay for another claim so I just told them to charge the card. Then I thought about it again. I called back again while the tech was here because I wanted to get a refund and nothing was ever given.

I got to the point where I was actually fussing with the representative on the phone. I was trying to explain to them my problem or why I shouldn’t have to pay another claim because the issue that I put the claim in for was not rectified in the first place.

The rep said that she would put in a ticket and a supervisor would call me back. I talked to them 6 times going back and forth. I ended up paying again and I was tired of it. The man had left and I was just glad that my stuff was fixed. I took it as a loss and kept on moving. The supervisor did call me back but I was over it. I did let him know I will be looking for another warranty company.

Whenever I buy a house, I make sure to take inventory of my appliances. My house isn’t that old, but I know my water heater is getting old. I hadn’t had it serviced at all since I moved in two years ago, so I figured I needed to get it checked out. I put in a claim with American Home Shield, and someone named David came out and was able to help me. He was awesome.

Nothing was wrong with my water heater, but I still had to pay $100 for someone to come out and tell me that. I wish there were options, like if it’s a maintenance thing, they could consider voiding the fee or lowering it to 50% or a $50 fee. I would consider that. Because appliances get old, and if they need servicing, I don’t want to have to pay out of pocket for it all.

I had American Home Shield for all my rental homes and had them for at least five years. I like American Home Shield except that they charge me $100 every time they do something even though I pay $80 a month for their service, which is pricey. I also don't like that every call goes out to someone who doesn't understand English or their communication back to me isn't really well. But other than that, AHS stands by what they say they're gonna do and that's important.

True Home declared my refrigerator was bad so I had to replace it, but they’re reimbursing me. I'm waiting on a check. The guy True Home sent out, he didn't put in his paperwork with the refrigerator until Monday. I’m in a family that has kids, and we were without a refrigerator for seven days. He could have turned in that paperwork on Friday afternoon, and they would have look at it and say, “We're gonna reimburse you if you get a refrigerator.” They told me the refrigerator they're gonna send me would take 12 days to get there, or I can buy it and they’re gonna give me this amount of money. We can't wait 12 more days so I went and bought one. Because of this guy they sent out, I wouldn't use True Home again. I know AHS uses them, but they can't be responsible for what that repair guy did.

Hello Michael. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review of your service experience. I'm glad to see that your overall experience with us has been a positive one.

I understand the concerns you have regarding pricing. AHS' pricing is subject to market forces, so unfortunately there may be price increases over time. However, our executive team does take care to price our service in such a way that it is still competitive with similar home warranty services. In addition, AHS offers a far wider degree of options and vendors than any other home warranty company, ensuring that we can best meet your home warranty needs.

I apologize for the delays that you experienced with this service request. AHS works to assign a vendor who can diagnose within 48 hours of the initial call, which you have likely experienced many times over your 15 years with us. Unfortunately, however, there may be times when there is a delay in having a vendor come to service. We do work to minimize these occurrences.

My microwave was not heating up. When I turned it on, it would go through its cycle but things came out cold. I went on the American Home Shield website and put in a claim. There is a link that I see on their website and I click on that. I go in and put in my username and password. Once you say you wanna submit a claim, they have different categories. If the items are in the same category, then you can submit multiple claims and pay the one-time deductible of 100 bucks. I went through that. I specified what the issues were and then I paid.

I got an email back that Ace Appliance was gonna be the contractor. Ace Appliance called me later on and they said they were going to order a part. They didn't have it in stock. It took them almost three weeks to get the part in. And then a gentleman came and he was okay. He was professional and we both shared a few jokes. He asked me where the stuff was and I showed him. He installed the part and the microwave worked. It's been working fine.

I've had American Home Shield since I purchased this home. Three years ago, I started having a lot of problems with my heating and cooling. I would put in a call and a contractor would come in and fix it. But about two to three months tops, there would be another problem. A guy who came to do the AC told me that with what he had seen and for his evaluation, I was going to need a completely new system for both the AC and the furnace. I said, “Well, you are a contractor. You can write that report.” He said okay and then left. He never came back.

American Home Shield sent someone else from a completely different company. When this person came, he did his evaluation. I told him about the guy who came before. That was when I realized he was from a different company. I said, “The guy who came before said I needed a new system. And that is what we are doing. There's so many little things. There was some leakage somewhere, all that kind of things he was explaining. So, he recommended that you replace the thing.”

This guy told me that American Home Shield was never going to replace this system for me. I said, “But it’s stated in the contract.” He said, “Yes. But they will never do it.” If he sent that report in, he wasn't going to get the chance to do that job and American Home Shield was going to give the job to another person.

A couple of weeks after, these people from this company called me to try and get me to buy a complete unit from them. Initially, I thought of doing it. I was very far along in the process. Finally, my wife was like, “If anything at all, if we were going to do this, we shouldn't go through them.” They are contracted to come here and evaluate my product when I put in the support. If a new one is needed, they need to be able to present that to American Home Shield. If they are not willing to do that but they want to sell me new equipment from them, then we should go with somebody completely different because we couldn't trust them. It was really last minute. We had things set up. They were supposed to come on a Tuesday, but I called them on Friday to say I didn’t wanna do it anymore.

My coverage with American Home Shield, up until this finance issue came up, was fine. With the furnace issue, I called them. Sometimes, depending on who you got on the line, they were very nice and receptive. Other times, you get someone and the call goes completely south. Someone would come in and fix something, but either the same issue or something completely different comes up after three months. You call back and they tell you it's past a month. If it's past 30 days and something else occurs, you have to pay that 100 bucks again. I wasn't too happy.

Dear Harold, Thank you for giving us a review. I am glad the vendor was able to repair the range on top of the stove. I do apologize that you had a part delay; however, that is something beyond the control of AHS, as to where and when parts are available. We do want to get parts as quickly as possible and repair your covered items to good working order as quickly as possible.

As far as your heating and cooling issue you had three years ago; AHS does repair if the unit can be repaired; and also three years is too far to go back at this time. Please reach out to AHS immediately when you have concerns at the time it is happening.

But in the last five years, the service and what they cover and what they're supposed to cover has changed and not for good. I'm looking for another company to switch over to. Because the last five times I've called to get service, it's been declined.

I filed a claim online for the leak under the sink. The company that came out for the sink is a company I don't want to use. They sent them out five times and I've never liked their work. And every time I see them, I get irate. And I forgot to call American Home Shield and tell them not to send them to my house.

We use MOEN for our faucets and has a lifetime warranty. Something had broken off the MOEN part under the sink. And they called and told us that they were going to reach out to MOEN and get a new faucet because MOEN doesn’t make it anymore. I got on the phone and called MOEN and within two days, I had that part and we fixed it ourselves. The contractor company told us to call them back if we got the part but I never did. And they got the $100 for just coming and telling us a lie. Our warranty is expensive as it is already, and then they send companies like that out. For me, it's not good practice.

Hello Lisa. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. I apologize for the problems that you encountered with this work order. I'd like to address some of the issues that you raised with your post.

I understand your frustration with the vendor and with us. You mentioned that you already had reservations with this vendor. Please be aware that we can place any vendor on your refused vendor listing, meaning that they will not populate for the remainder of the contract term for any service calls in that trade. Also, any time you have a lifetime warranty with a service provider or with a manufacturer, that warranty will override the coverage provided by your AHS warranty.

The lights on the side of the refrigerator were out, and they denied that part of the claim. But they did replace the ice maker. I also had an issue with my stove, the digital display for the clock and oven temperature had lights out. I couldn’t tell the time on the stove, so we had to check the microwave instead. We also weren’t sure what temperature the oven was set to because some of the display lights were out, and they did replace that.

I feel like I deserve a replacement, which was supposed to be part of the option when you signed up, but the technician keeps fixing it instead. Since they get paid every time they come out, there’s no incentive for them to say the fridge is broken totally and can’t be fixed. There's no reason for them to tell AHS it’s time for a replacement.

Even when I called AHS to request a different contractor, since replacement is not going to work, they said no. I even joked about capping it at 20 visits, just to have some end in sight, but they wouldn’t do that. They still want the same people to come out again. The last time, they even said that Accord Appliance said I refused service, which I didn’t. I was simply saying, “Can’t you communicate onto them and ask for a replacement?” and they construed that as me refusing service.

It is unacceptable that it's been four months, and I still have a refrigerator that isn’t working properly. It has issues and leaks, and food freezes in the drawers, which I have to throw away.

I had a leak inside the basement, so I called my local plumber. They came out, took a look at it, and said that they could fix it. But I said I have to call American Home Shield first to get approval for them. I called American Home Shield, and they said Hero Plumbing would come out and do it. I went with that, and they charged me a $125 fee.

When Hero Plumbing came out, they said the break was due to frost on a pipe and the leak was inside the house. AHS said they wouldn’t cover that, so I ended up paying the bill to Hero Plumbing. Because of that, I want to get a refund for the $125 fee because not only did I have my own plumber come out and pay him, but I also had to pay $125 for Hero Plumbing to come out and $359 for fixing. So, I felt like I should be getting back that $125 fee.

I have five different policies with five different properties with American Home Shield. I told them if they didn’t refund the $125, I was going to cancel all five of them. I was hoping that would get their attention because I'm paying $50 bucks a month for those other ones. I’m very dissatisfied.

The only reason I went to AHS was because I have five other policies in Walla Walla. I thought I should add my house. My personal home is 20 years old, so I thought it’s a good idea to have a policy to cover any appliances or plumbing leaks inside the house.

If I got my $125 back, I’d be happy. But I don’t think they’re any good because they don’t respond. They did refund the first time when I had the same situation about two years ago, and they refunded the $125. So, I expected that to be the same case. I wasn’t really happy about it.

It’s been about a month since I’ve been waiting for the refund. A guy called me to tell me they would not refund my money. I climbed all over him like I normally would if I didn’t feel treated properly, and he didn’t do anything. I just said, screw it, and I’m probably going to cancel all five of my policies if they’re not gonna play ball.

I’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for about four years now. The issue I’m having is that it feels like the companies they work with aren’t properly vetted. As a result, many of the vendors they send are subpar. For example, I’ve been trying to get my AC or electronic furnace fixed since February. Now it’s April, and it still isn’t fixed, even though I’ve been reaching out to both American Home Shield and the vendor.

I’ve been handling all the follow-ups and calls myself. Ideally, as the policy owner, you call for a dispatch, and everything should be managed in the background. Instead, I’ve had to actively follow up with both the vendor and American Home Shield.

For the most part, I would say some of these vendors aren’t really the best. They drop the ball and don’t prioritize the customer. What should have been handled the same day ends up requiring me to make 10 calls between the vendor and Home Shield to get it done.

On top of that, one thing that made us go even longer, because when I requested a vendor change. I was told that because I had called and American Home Shield only sent an email to the vendor, it didn’t count as a reason to escalate. It had to be an actual call. To me, that seemed shady. If I’m calling to get something resolved, it should be resolved. After my fourth call, you’d think they would recognize the need to escalate to the next level.

I'm not sure if it’s policy to keep issues at the lowest level, but I called American Home Shield four days straight, twice a day. They still haven't fixed the problem. I need to know the next steps now. My wife is pregnant and due soon, and in Florida’s heat, I need this resolved. As a husband, I don’t want her to be uncomfortable.

I actually argued with them over a unit last year, and they just said, “All we’re sending you is $1,196. That’s all we’re gonna pay.” We’ve been with them since December of 2001 when we bought this house, but I really hate to say this, I wouldn’t recommend them anymore.

They just keep raising their fees every month, and it comes out to about $2,400 a year. If you don’t have any major breakdowns, or if they’re not going to pay much on a big one, you’re better off putting that $2,400 in the bank to pay for things yourself. Now they’re getting to the point where they want the gravy and nothing else. They don't even fix well pumps or water softeners anymore.

They don’t really use local people now, either. The first repairman they sent was dumb as an ox, so I ended up getting a local guy. They did work on the oven, but they couldn’t fix it, so they replaced it. When it got here, it was a little too big for the hole, so the boy couldn’t install it and we did it ourselves. I like that they get it started right away, but if it's anything major, which is really what you pay for, they’re just not as good as they used to be. I’ve debated every month about canceling.

    Good afternoon, Randall,

Thank you for giving us a review. Thank you for being a valued warranty member since 2001. American Home Shield has made changes over the years to keep up with the changing economy, and to help better serve our customers as well. I do understand the exclusions and limitations can be frustrating; however, there is still good value in the warranty. You may want to reach out to Customer Sales at 800-247-4749 to see if they have any promotions, or can otherwise assist you with your coverage and premiums. I believe there are a few contracts that do cover water softeners, if you want to ask about that. Well pump is an add on option for many plans as well. I apologize about the appliance not fitting; however, appliances, water heaters, and HVAC equipment have all changed in sizes over the years, due to energy efficient efforts, beyond the control of American Home Shield. Thank you again for being a valued warranty customer over many years, and providing a feedback for us. Please reach out to Customer Service Sales to see if they can fit you with a plan that works better for you. Take care now.

I'm not fond of the company American Home Shield sent. I had service and their guy put the door in. He said when he left, it was fine. But the door didn't close properly. He was full of crap. That was a couple of weeks ago. I called the company and told them that the door didn’t close. I was in the hospital at that time. They said, "Fine. We'll set up an appointment." A guy was sent. He said, "Well, that's a $90 service charge." I said, "You've got to be kidding me. You have the warranty." I spent 500 and some odd dollars to put that stupid thing that he put up. It was just horrible.

On top of that, the door wasn't closing. I went inside to write him a check. I wanted to get rid of him. When I went back to the garage, the door was closed. I said, "What's that?" He said, "Well, I made an adjustment." I said, "You wanted to sell me the motor." He says, "It's shot." So far, the garage door is working fine. But I need a company that's honest. The guy told me that something was not working and he couldn't adjust it properly. But after I went inside to say, "Okay. Here's the $90," all of a sudden, everything worked. I don't care about the $90. It just pissed me off. The company is not trustworthy. I was very dissatisfied. Just in case, I got a new company for my warranty.

There were several parts on the dryer that were bad, including the belts and a few other things. The technicians had to order parts and replace them, and I was very happy with the service. It was wonderful. The first technician who came out was exceptionally friendly.

The second technician was nice as well, just not as friendly or talkative, but both of them were excellent. The technicians came out about a week apart after the parts arrived. The parts were shipped to our house, and then the second technician came to finish the repair.

My townhouse is 17 years old, including the appliances, so I decided to try American Home Shield. I really can’t complain about the service. It’s been pretty good. They respond quickly when my wife calls. No complaints.

We’ve been very happy overall. The first time our washing machine went bad and couldn’t be repaired, American Home Shield gave us a credit. We added a little money and bought another one, and we’ve been happy with it.

We had a water leak and Trophy Plumbing came out and took care of the issue in a timely manner. I reached out to American Home Shield by phone and it went perfectly fine. If you are concerned with major appliances and things like that going out, you might want to consider having AHS. However, it has gotten quite expensive, and I’m not sure how much longer I can afford to keep it because they don’t do more than they absolutely have to. If your dryer dies and you have to replace that, they have to replace the dryer. They are not going to go out of their way to help you find a good dryer.

Right now, I still have some 300 dollars on a Home Depot card while I try and find a dishwasher that I could afford on that amount of money. I cannot even afford to bother with it because the installation and all of that are extremely expensive. It’s rather outrageous. I don’t know what I’m going to do because I don’t think I’m allowed to do anything else with that money sitting on that card. Apparently, it’s good forever, but it’s only good to get a dishwasher. It is not feasible for me to spend at least three times they’ve allotted me for my old one to get a new one.

American Home Shield sent three different people out, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. They fixed one thing, and then that wasn't the thing. They fixed another thing, and that wasn't the thing. They just kept fixing things, which prolonged the whole experience. It’s very long and drawn out to get anything fixed as far as the appliances are concerned. In the end, they're going to replace out the entire unit, which should have been done sooner, and would have saved a lot of time and money. They’ve also come for a couple other things that they said the appliance was misused and abused. I’ve had the appliance for over 10 years, not having a problem with it, so I don’t think it was misused and abused.

With the most recent claim, American Home Shield is gonna send a replacement, which is gonna take some time, but I’m happy about that. I thought they were gonna keep going back and forth trying to fix it. As far as customer service is concerned, they’re good. They did increase the price, and I ended up canceling with them, but after they replaced the thing, I'm considering redoing my contract with them.

The plumber came out the same day instead of the usual next day service. It didn't end up being a major issue, a pipe just did not have a cap on it and that's what was causing the smell. It was probably like that since the day we bought it and they took care of it.

Every time I call on American Home Shield, none of the issues ever gets fixed the first time around. My refrigerator hasn't been fixed in over a month. I went from one company to company ‘cause they couldn't do it in a timely manner, and it's been a fiasco. At Bay Appliance recommended that I get a cash out, but American Home Shield denied that, so they're coming back out again to try and fix it.

American Home Shield needs to Prioritize and fix issues in a quick manner. They can’t have families waiting for months before any of their appliances are fixed. And customer service is horrendous. I've been on the phone at least 10 to 12 times at this point. And when you have someone that comes out and things don't get resolved right away and don't get fixed properly, you kinda know American Home Shield went with the lowest bidder, and I pay so much money for the service, and they're not performing, so I'm canceling my membership, assuming this refrigerator issue is resolved.

I sometimes call and sometimes submit a claim online as the online’s very easy. I just tell them what I need and what’s wrong, then they get back to me. No mess, no fuss. I told my brother he needs to call American Home Shield right now and sign up with them.

They have replaced my entire heating system. The man said I needed to come up with an additional 700 that they wouldn’t cover. I didn’t go into why and what exactly what it was. I just paid it. They have also replaced my hot water heater. I was not getting hot water, and so they came out and their technician said that I’m lucky because that was something they cover.

I do have a complaint about the plumber who came before. For some reason, my house is falling apart all of a sudden and all at once, so I’ve had a few men out. There was a plumber that came out for leaking sink. It took him at least a week to 10 days, and they didn’t even get back to me. I had to call them because I got a text from American Home Shield saying who was going to cover it. That was annoying, but the Sears people came out the next day or the day after that.

I opened the door, and he was wearing a Sears uniform. I invited him in and led him to the kitchen and pointed where the dishwasher was. I sat down at the kitchen table while he was taking it apart and fixing it. He had to take it out from under the counter. He was fiddling around and changing this and doing that, and then he said that he had to order a part. He put the machine back in and set an appointment on the 25th. But he said that if the part comes in before then, to call them and let them know to see if they have somebody who can service it faster.

I received the part in the mail and I didn’t have to call Sears because Sears got ahold of me, saying that they had gotten notification that the part had come to my house and that they had scheduled somebody early, which was nice. A different individual came back wearing a Sears uniform on. So the same routine happened where I showed him where the dishwasher was and I sat down at the kitchen table to watch him. He took it out, did a bunch of stuff, shoved it back in under, and said that it should work just fine now.

But now, my sink on the same side that he worked on is not draining properly. I was thinking if it has been a month already and if I should call the man back. It’s so much trouble because I don’t wanna pay for the same problem again so I’ve just been putting it off.

My experience with American Home Shield was wonderful. It was so easy to get the referral to the plumber, and they responded so fast. I just went on the website and put in a note about my kitchen sink not draining water. It was a very simple claim process. They sent me the name of the person to contact, I called Patriot Plumbing, and they were at my house within two days.

The two gentlemen who came out were very personable. One was being trained, and the other guy explained exactly what was happening and what had caused the issue. I thought it was the garbage disposal, but it was actually a grease clog in the drain. They snaked it and ran a lot of hot water through to clear it, and they weren’t even there a half hour. It’s been working ever since, and they even told me what to do to prevent it from happening again.

The only thing that could be improved is the communication about me having to call the plumber to set up the appointment. I was a little confused about whether they would contact me or I had to contact them. Also, I was told it was a $125 fee, but the plumbing person said they get paid through American Home Shield. I haven’t received a bill so far, but it’s definitely worth the monthly fee.

We have used American Home Shield in the past, but it was the landlord’s relationship with them because we were just renting. So this is really our first time as direct clients. We’ve had them since we bought the house in October of last year.

My husband called to file a claim because our shower was not draining properly. The water was collecting really quickly. They had it fixed within 30 minutes, so it was very quick.

It's going very well and easy. But our previous experience was not good. We did use them repeatedly before in our last house. There were times when parts had to be ordered, or they really couldn’t fix the issue, or they would put a band-aid on it, and that would continue to be a problem later. When they replaced things, it was not the same quality. It wasn’t as nice as what we originally had.

But I wasn’t in control of those situations. We would deal with the technician. But mainly, the landlord was responsible for that. So I was willing to give them another shot, that’s why I signed up with them. This time, it was great.

But AHS has few companies that I don’t agree with. I have had issues with another company where the technician didn’t wanna do his job. So I requested AHS to send somebody else. The other company did exactly what it was they were supposed to do.

Overall, AHS is okay with approving work. But I’ve had several times where they did not approve something that I felt should have been approved. In my book, they don’t have a great approval rating for actually getting work done. They’ll turn you down more times than they actually fix it. However when they do fix something or when they can’t fix it, they have actually replaced the item and that was good.

M&E Plumbing Service did the best job ever of any of the folks that American Home Shield has sent to my house. They're the best plumbing company that I've ever had.

They came out a couple of weeks ago and said they would be there on day one, at 11 o'clock. And they were there just like they said. They had to order parts for the other parts, and said they would be back the next day between 8:00 and 11:00.

They called me back that evening to confirm because they had the part. And the next morning, they came at exactly 8:00, like they said they would. They fixed what they could fix, and I haven't had an issue since. They need credit.

Well, something else has happened at another house. It has a plumbing issue, where there might be a stoppage. Like they might have to ride it out, and the plumbers are saying they can't fix it because they don't remove toilets.

However, one of the jobs that M&E did was to replace the toilet wax ring. So one company is saying they don't do certain jobs, and the other company is saying that they’re there to help, and they do it.

I'm probably gonna have to elevate it. I live in California. So I need the best support I can get. And so, I have my sister there. And she's my eyeballs in Illinois, there in Joliet.

Right now, she called me and said, the plumbing company wants $400 to remove the toilet, and then they could ride it out from there. And I told her that I never heard of that. I mentioned M&E and said that they just came to Pico St.

These houses are literally around the block from each other. And so, we're gonna have to call American Home Shield and say we need a different plumber.

The guy said he'll be back because my sister wasn't present. So the tenant let the guy in. He was so confident, he left his tools there because he wanted to get the 400 bucks.

I thought that would be part of the home warranty because it has been for everyone else. So that's what's going on with that one.

My problem with American Home Shield, unfortunately, is that if I get the wrong person, then they just side with the guy. So they tried to send this guy back, but he wouldn't come back. And so, I had to wait for them to assign me someone else.

When they assigned me to the other guy, the guy came in, and he was able to repair it. In that case, he fixed it. But the one guy, don't even send him there because he doesn't wanna fix anything there. And I don't want him to fix anything there.

I did that twice, where the person who was the contact that I had to call in and deal with, like the mechanic or the plumber, was always right. I had a guy who fixed a refrigerator at the very house that you're talking about.

The very first thing he did was the dryer that wasn't heating up. So this guy came out there and took some of the things apart. Then he gave his opinion on how to fix it.

When I got on the phone with him, he was saying it was old. I asked if it's under warranty no matter what age it is. And the next thing I know, he had hung up.

American Home Shield kept allowing the guy who was screwing it up to continue to do it. And to be honest, that happens even out here in California. I have a First American Home Shield here and here.

I had a guy, I literally waited from the weekend before Thanksgiving till after the first year for him to fix the furnace. California isn't that cold. But it's the coldest time there.

He kept saying he had to get the part, and he didn't fix it until the new year. And I was calling them. That's just a new thing where the contractors feel like.

Look to have some sort of home protection service. American Home Shield is one of them. I’ve been satisfied with it. We’ve had it on this particular location for six years to help mitigate big, expensive repairs.

What I like about the service is that it provides comfort. I would always like to have a better price and cheaper coverage. They could also improve the information online about the policies and coverage, which aren’t always very clear.

I have not engaged too much with customer service. A lot of it wound up going directly with the contractor once it was initially established. When we had a cooling issue with the AC, I went through AHS and submitted the claim online. The site is pretty good and seems easy enough to use. I received a message that said the contractors would be contacting me within 24 hours, and they did. They called to schedule a couple of days later, a Saturday, and they showed up within the timeframe they gave me.

The technician from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas Ltd seemed great. He was polite and very conscious of keeping the house clean and working well with me as they tried to get the solution. He checked on the unit outside and up in the attic and looked at the refrigerant. It’s working now, so I have no complaints about the contractor.

My refrigerator’s compressor went out, so it was not getting cold and it melted everything. A Town Group came out and fixed it. The microwave, on the other hand, when you turn it on, it smelled like something was burning. It was also them who came out. When the guy left that day, he said that the microwave was good to go. He said he tested it, but he tested it again today and it is still doing the same thing.

On the day he came to fix the refrigerator, he replaced the nozzle that used to go bad on the microwave. So today, he put a cup in there and turned it on, and then the smoke and the burning smell was still there. He said it was some adapter that went bad on this type of microwave. He then said he was going to submit to American Home Shield his other diagnosis.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since I bought my home four years ago. After the year was up, I left and then I decided to get it back. When I recommended my lady boss, I explained how you have to pay your service fee and, 9 times out of 10, you may have to pay out your pocket with certain things. Still, a lot of stuff is covered by AHS. Overall, the experience has been excellent, and I’m satisfied with my coverage.

I've had two claims with American Home Shield. The first repair request was the furnace wasn't heating. The technician came out and identified the issue to be a fuse that burned out. He had the part in his vehicle and promptly replaced it and the unit was working the same day.

The second issue was for a free AC tune-up. The technician came by to assess the system, determined that the condenser capacitor needed to be replaced. and ordered the parts. He then came over, replaced the capacitor, and everything's functioning.

Both technicians were courteous, professional, friendly, and on time. I was very pleased. I would highly recommend American Home Shield. I would insist on using them for my future property purchases and I would gladly refer them to any friends and family in need of a home warranty.

American Home Shield helped file a claim for the ice maker in my refrigerator that wasn't working. I submitted the claim over the phone. The call was automated and I did not speak with a live person, but it was easy to get it taken care of.

The contractor came right away. He said what was wrong with it and it wasn't anything that could be replaced because it was a defect of the fridge. I would have to get a new refrigerator. The refrigerator is fine, it's just the ice maker that is not working. I can make ice myself in the freezer. I'm not going to get a new refrigerator at this time. But I've worked with American Home Shield now on several different items and they've all been very good.

My washer wasn't doing anything, and American Home Shield sent out Ace Appliance Repair when I submitted my claim. The technicians came out about five times over nearly two months to fix it. I had different technicians because they kept sending someone else to figure it out.

Communication was terrible. When I talked to AHS after the third or fourth time, they called Ace Appliance, and they told AHS that they were going to put in a recommendation to replace it because they’d been out so many times. But then the next thing I know, they're scheduling another visit to fix it.

I called AHS back, and they told me that it was a misunderstanding, and the company decided not to replace it because they said they could fix it. This experience was very aggravating and frustrating, and is probably my worst experience since I've had AHS. My wife kept saying that we should cancel.

The tech from ANB was great. He was good. The issue turned out that besides the toilet that he fixed, we also had a pinhole in the pipes. That wasn’t discovered until we had the restoration crew out who had to take off tiles in the bathroom. We already had scheduled to have all of our pipes replaced next week, so the company that is doing that sent a guy out to fix the pinhole temporarily.

In filing claims, I would do it over the phone, but my husband would do it online. Whenever we have to speak with a rep, they have always been helpful, and they put the claim in. Sometimes, however, it can be annoying depending on what the issue is. If you place it, they put it in, and then you have to wait for whoever is supposed to come out to give you a call back. And if you have something like water damage, you don’t want to wait. In those cases, somebody could come quicker. You don’t want to wait for two days for somebody to come by.

Everything was good with American Home Shield. I’ve never had any problem with anybody who was sent out. They’ve always taken care of the problems. And I hate it when people say not to get American Home Shield because they don’t cover anything. Because I have never had any trouble with them. I think they’re great.  Being a woman alone, and even my daughter, I’ve got hers, it’s great because we don’t have to find somebody to do the work. So, it’s a good insurance plan for us.

I’ve tried submitting claims online and over the phone. The last time, it was on the phone. And before that, it was online. And whenever I called in, the representatives were really good.

The only thing that happened was last Friday, we called to say we needed somebody back out because the AC was starting to leak inside, and that wasn’t even a problem before. But then it dawned on me over the weekend, after I made that call, that the technician commented that the drain was clogged. And I don’t remember him going in there and clearing that drain. So, I had a friend look at it, and he said the same thing. So, he put some Clorox in to clear it, and everything was fine.

So, I called AHS and canceled because we fixed the problem. And maybe the technician just got sidetracked and didn’t do it. And then what really questioned when I called was they are dispatching a different company. It wasn’t gonna be Comfort Air. And I thought that was weird. But we canceled it, and everything’s fine now. But I’m glad I remembered what that could be, and it ended up being the problem.

I’ve had American Home Shield for many years, and I’m not too happy with them. One hand doesn’t know what the other is doing, except they do maintain a file. They can go back in the file and tell you what happened at a certain date. The companies that they send out tell me it’s difficult to deal with them. The other companies that don’t use them say they want them to work too cheap.

My pool pump quit working, and I called them. The company came out and said they couldn’t do it because electrical requirements were upgraded by the county. I had to get an electrical company to upgrade it out of my own pocket. The first company then came back and put the pool motor. But it was dragged out for probably two weeks. Somebody even called me and said they’re gonna keep me informed, and I never heard from him again. Down here in Florida, if you don't have a pool pump, in two weeks, you’ve got a yellow pool that costs a lot of money to clean up.

The electrical upgrade that they told me to get, it’s code, but they only do it in new pools. For existing pools, the maintenance people don’t ever even do it because there’s no inspection by the state. The pool company told me I can resubmit the claim and they can take care of the pool pump for $400 and I don't have to get it upgraded. That’s hypocritical of them since they're the one that refused to do it the first time. I don’t lie for $400. That pool company wasn’t too legitimate. I ended up paying for the upgrade and spent over $200 on chemicals. Had they moved like they should have, it wouldn’t have happened.

I was also dissatisfied with them about the fans. I have matching premium fans in two rooms that cost $400 each. One of them went out. The guy came out and said they’ll replace it. It turned out he bought a fan from Home Depot for 50 bucks as replacement. I just took the cash out and bought my own and hired my own company to put it in. I still paid the $135 monthly fee and the $125 service fee. It’s not worth it financially. It’s better to pay for my own maintenance. I won’t recommend them, and I’m fixing to cancel them.

It was a good experience. I’d been having trouble with my refrigerator, and technicians came out twice for the same issue. They needed to come out a third time, but by then it was past the 30‑day window. The personnel on the phone told me I’d have to pay another $100. I said I wasn’t paying another $100 and asked to speak to a supervisor.

I explained that it was the same issue, and they were very nice about it. They waived the $100 fee, and Sugar City Appliance came out. So far, so good. They had to order parts and come back. All in all, it took about three weeks because parts aren’t coming into the country very fast right now. Overall, I was satisfied.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years and had some terrible people. Sometimes, they give me someone, and I look at their reviews. Some of those reviews are horrible. I had someone come out who did absolutely nothing. There was another person who came out here all the time from a company. They would say that American Home Shield doesn’t cover the issue, and they’ll charge me $300 to $500 to fix it. Another time, a young man came out for my garbage disposal and asked me for a rag. I gave him one of my towels, and I told him he should have his own rags. When I got the towel back, it was terrible that I ended up throwing it away. He left and didn’t finish the job. An older gentleman came who was really nice and got me a new garbage disposal instead.

Still, even with the issues I had, I kept the warranty with American Home Shield because years ago they were actually good with replacing things. I had problems with my refrigerator and stove, and they helped me. Recently, when I had the plumbing issue, everything went right. The appointment came through immediately. I was so shocked someone called and they were pleasant on the phone.

The young man who came out was professional and very well organized. I was very pleased with him. He called and let me know what time he was planning to arrive, and he did. He told me exactly what it was, where the problem was and some things that he could see that I couldn’t see. He even took a picture of where the leak was. He also told me the drainage had stopped up. He pumped it out, and there was hair that clogged it. I really like that company and I would use them again if I had to. A lot of times, I don’t run into someone like that with American Home Shield. Everything was great for a change, and I was really happy.

Truly the most disappointing experience I've ever had. AHS refused to cover for the furnace repair claiming it was due to a pre-existing condition when they had proof in their system that the furnace was in good/working condition with no issues. I had my furnace looked at by a dispatch service that they had sent 6 weeks prior. They also put the blame squarely on the dispatching company. I've spoken to the companies they dispatched to my house directly and they all concurred how blatant AHS is in their unfair refusals to pay for repairs. All they do is read a script and say that the problem was existing. Do not pay fall victim to this scam. Please stay away!!!

The vent and the kitchen sink was making a really weird gurgling sound. There's a problem with the sprayer. It was dripping on the back. So, it was a vent drain and a sprayer problem. I put it in the claim notes when I filed the claim.

The process has always been okay. Sometimes from the dropdown menu, when you have to select a reason, there's not enough offerings. I had to choose plumbing leak, and then go in the text box and enter the description of the issue. I will get an email which tells you the contractor and who's going to contact you. I also tells you when the call is actually scheduled. It tells you when the serviceman is on the way. It gives you good information.

The technician they sent out was very good. He told me what he had to look at. He explained what he did and what he found. It's working okay after that. As I'm trying to log in, I didn't know if I had something on the call to pay the claim. When you file a claim, it used to be 75 bucks now it's $100.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a long time. I had it since 2005. The reason was because we bought a used house. It’s effective to have. The coverage has always been good. When we've had covered items go out, we file a claim. Service provider comes out, diagnoses it and fixes the problem.

AHS can be improved with the timeliness. It took a long time to get someone here and they were not the first one to come. Also, outsourcing their call center is the most frustrating part of the entire experience.

We had a plumbing issue. I called in for this because I didn’t feel that anything online would capture the urgency. It’s easy to connect with someone but not someone that could understand what I needed. They’re not familiar with the policy. It was very evident that there was a great distance, not just physically. I was asking a very specific question and I didn’t want to waste their time. If it was in no part going to be covered, I didn’t have to call them.

For example, someone said they will get back to me within the next business day. It was urgent and I needed to get someone. The next rep said they will expedite it and that the tech will be within 24 hours. But it was the same thing and they didn’t expedite anything.

By the time I was able to get them to understand, I already had somebody at my house from another company. Thankfully, all I did was have them shut off the water. For this company, I was able to communicate with them and they came out the next day. As for AHS, the urgency was not there for what I needed in the moment.

American Home Shield is fantastic. I sell real estate, and I give customers the first year as a gift -- That's how much I appreciate AHS. I’ve sent them eight new clients in the past three months.

The prices are great. They’ve gone up, but I know everything in this world has. I give my customers the $650 plan, and I think there's only one better, the $810 that I'm giving to some customers selling next week.

Third Generation Plumb was awful. They're not professional and did a terrible job. The jets in my tub were leaking into the guest bedroom, and the technician said they’re not gonna do anything for me. I went to Kohler online and had the part number within 5 or 10 minutes of when this guy left. They weren't even going to look and tell me that.

I called my contact at American Home Shield and told them about it, and they fixed it. After they organized a second opinion, a fellow came out today, and he was very professional and polite. He said I needed a new tub because the jets have disintegrated.

AHS called me this afternoon and said they’ve approved it. They're awesome, but I know they're only as strong as the vendors that they hire. They need to know when somebody's not representing them well because it's a reflection on them. They should fire that company immediately.
