I had two claims. One was a repair of the microwave and the other was for the replacement or the repair of the garbage disposal in the toilet. Submitting my claims went seamlessly and there was no problem. Two different companies were here about two weeks ago and both were extremely polite, interested in finding out what the problems were, diagnosed them and took care of them. They both did an excellent job and I appreciate it. Everything's good since the repair.

My air conditioner went out. Filing a claim over the phone with AHS was an easy process. The rep was very pleasant and knowledgeable, while the tech was very professional, courteous and on time. The AC is good right now and I'm satisfied with AHS.

We have a good experience all the time with American Home Shield but the waiting time sometimes takes 45 minutes. It’s very busy but the staff is very good as well as the crew. They try to solve the problem but they need to add more people because of that waiting time. People try to go online but I always like to call. That’s the only problem with AHS but the rest of the other things is the best. We called regarding the air conditioning and we also called for the electricity. They schedule people right away and if I have any problems, they try to reach the company. Plus, they are very nice when you talk to them. I’ve had American Home Shield for almost 10 years and I highly recommend them. I use them for my rental and my personal home and we’re very happy.

I had a pleasant and professional experience with American Home Shield. It was easy submitting a claim over the phone, the contractor was positive and I enjoy the service. I liked it when we just paid the contractor set up. I've been with AHS for years and so far, I'm satisfied and am happy with it.

My dryer's fuse went out. I called American Home Shield and they notified Sears. Sears called me and made an appointment which was two weeks out. That was my only issue. We were out of a dryer for two weeks and it was hard to wash any clothes. But the technician who came out got everything done within 30 minutes. He checked everything, found the fuse, and put the new fuse in. Everything was done to my satisfaction, and for some reason, he didn’t charge me the $75. I also had issues with my garage door opener recently and AHS took care of it, too.

I have family members who were satisfied with American Home Shield so we went with them as well. And we’ve been with them for several years now. I had a plumbing issue that I recently claimed for. I’ve had other claims with them over the years but it was the first one for this particular plumbing issue. I submitted the claim online and whenever I speak to somebody, they’re always very friendly. Also, 99% of the technicians that they sent were excellent. They usually get things fixed the first time. They always seem to meet my needs so I’m satisfied. It makes me feel comfortable and makes me sleep with ease knowing that if I had an issue, they’re going to help me pay for it. It’s the best.

I like American Home Shield a lot. I like the customer service. They work with you and I really appreciate that. It goes a long way. It's also up for 24 hours. I'm glad that I was referred with them. They call to confirm the appointment to make sure you're satisfied. When the contractors say they're coming when they're scheduled to come within that window, they're coming. If not, before then. Then, they keep you posted. My time isn't wasted.
During a hurricane, my air conditioner wasn't coming on and I couldn't understand why. I called American Home Shield and they told me what I could do to try to save me from paying the deductible. I did the switch and everything, and didn't know what else I could do. So I told them I was going to have their contractor come out. Sure enough, a guy came out there. He found where the problem was and he fixed it. He also showed me how I could maintain it myself, which was how to clean and flush it, how often to change my filters, and how to clean out the outside after I cut my grass. I wasn’t rinsing the air conditioner system out well with the water, and they did a little extra time to spend with me to help me with that and I appreciated that a lot. I heard about it but I wasn't sure how to do it.
They had to come back out a week later. They asked me what was the best time for me. They went with my schedule, and I liked that a lot. It was the same problem with the air conditioner but this time, they needed to reset the fan. Then I never had any more problems. They didn't charge me the second time either when they came out. I was really satisfied and I would recommend my family member to American Home Shield.

We got up in the morning and took a shower and there wasn't any hot water. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a problem with the water heater. They said they'd set me up with a plumber and gave me his phone number. I called the plumber and they came the same day at exactly the time they said they would and they fixed my heater. They had the equipment in their truck, they went and looked at the water heater, and then they went back to their truck to get a little tube. They came back in and had it fixed in 20 minutes. They did a good job.

I had an excellent and quick service with American Home Shield. We went online when we submitted a claim for the air conditioning unit. Then there was another part that went out the second day and so the second time, we did it on the phone. They gave me a different phone number. And then, they came when they said they’re going to come and fixed what they said needed to get fixed and I have no complaints.

I submitted a claim with AHS by phone for the microwave, the washer, and the dishwasher. Their reps were friendly but the contractor they sent was slow. They had to order parts but they weren't calling me back and letting me know that they had to that. But once they got the parts, they fixed the appliances. The microwave looks great and the washer's working fine. But for some reason, there is leaking in the dishwasher since they left and it wasn't leaking before so I'm going to call the company and ask them about that. Other than that, it was a good experience overall.

Since moving in to my new house, I have had to make contact with American Home Shield on three different occasions. Each has involved ridiculous amounts of time sitting on hold waiting for an agent. I am going on 41 minutes as we speak (not to mention this was after the call was disconnected in a prior attempt!). It's absurd and infuriating to hear their cycling recording on how much they value me as a customer.
I attempted to use the self service mode when I started the call - nearly 90 minutes ago! - and after using the voice recognition prompts the call ended with my being assured I would hear from an HVAC company to address my issue with my "air condenser" - which is not what I requested as I am having an issue with my sprinkler system! Think twice about giving business to American Home Shield!

I've been in my in my place for four months when I signed up for AHS. They sent a guy out because the water wasn't coming in in my washing machine. He fixed that but didn't let the washing machine run. I ended up with the water coming in fine, but when the washing machine gets to the spin cycle, it jumps out of the bathroom. This has been going on for four months now since I've been in and out of town working. I called and a guy came by and told me I needed shocks. I waited for three weeks before the guys from Universal came back to put the shocks in. A couple of days later, I go to unload and when I pressed the button nothing works. Universal came out again and said I needed a timer panel. They told me to call AHS and see if the part could be expedited.
When I called, their rep said that I've been passed off to someone else. I talked to those people today and they're supposed to come out tomorrow to assess the situation. They keep setting people up, but they're not following through. I heard all these good things about them. However, they couldn't care less about my lousy washing machine. I've never heard from the contractor within the 24 hours they're supposed to contact me. I always had to follow up like I did today. They wanted me to wait til next Thursday, but I asked them to squeeze me in some time else. They set me for tomorrow, sometime between 10:00 to 6:00 so I have to wait around all day.
AHS did pretty good for the last three visits. I was supposed to pay $75 per visit but they haven't charged me for them because they didn't fix it. Then there was one time they sent an electrician to fix a switch that we're using, and he was really good and helpful. He was in and out. AHS is okay but, this particular case with the washing machine is getting out of hand. Moreover, when calling them up, be prepared to spend about an hour on the phone waiting.
Sounds like you had quite the ordeal in getting your work orders taken care of. I do apologize for your overall delays. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further assist.

American Home Shield sent contractors who were friendly and helpful but there was a matter of communication that it got confusing if my dryer was to be repaired or get a replacement cost. The follow-up is one of the fine things that American Home Shield does so the miscommunication was resolved. However, I was going to call on the performance of my dryer since the repair because I’ve been hearing a noise in the dryer that I normally would not hear prior to. The sound is like putting the old-fashioned timers for cooking that you wind, set time and makes a ticking noise. Overall, AHS is reliable since they do what they say they're going to do, though you have to be patient with the process. I will always have them for appliances and will always recommend them to everyone I know.

We’ve been with American Home Shield since we bought our house. We’ve had about five claims over the 18 years that we’ve been with them and they have taken care of our claims thoughtfully. I don’t have any problems getting through them and having them set up a date for a contractor to come out. If we hadn’t gotten performance from them in the past, we probably would’ve changed. But so far, it’s worked out. They’ve been mostly timely, and every time we’ve called them, they’ve gotten the job done. Recently, we had the pool pump go out, and the contractor had to come out a couple of times to get the whole issue taken care of. The first time, he didn’t quite get it right. So, I had to call him back to come out and fix what didn’t get fixed. It finally got taken care of so we’re pleased.

I've been with AHS since 2000 to 2017. I have not used them that much, but when I need them, I expect to get good service. American Home Shield started well but deteriorated in the last seven years. First of all, in the last six months, it took a long time to get anybody on the line. I've been on hold for hours. I don't know who they've subcontracted out to, but I'm assuming they have someone else. Secondly, they have sent people to do repairs who were not able to do the repairs and didn't understand what to do. They had to send other people out. Plus, they gave me the runaround. Finally, someone told me that they're not going to do the repairs. They just didn't want to tell me. This was after I had a supervisor call me to set it up and someone said they would do the repairs.
I had an overflow with my AC condenser. I had water all over my floor and had to stop it up with towels every day. I finally had a plumber come who could unstick the plumbing, where nothing has changed in 17 years, to cut a line to, so at least the water could run into a bucket. I dealt with this for four months. When they finally sent someone new out, the new contractor told me they were not able to fix it but were happy to give me a new air conditioner. The other AC people that came said that they don't know what to do and that I need $200 worth of Freon. Finally, I just got my own person to come do it. They said that American Home Shield would not do the amount that they gave me. We're talking about several thousand dollars.
I have no confidence when I asked AHS about the caliber of people they were sending. They said they were trying to give the little guy an opportunity. One of those little guys had a beater car that was very unprofessional and left oil in my driveway. I do not consider them to be giving good service. I don't know what changes they've made and nobody was able to tell me. I'm waiting for some kind of explanation. They're not doing a good job and they don't care. I don't know if I'm going to renew when it comes up because it's getting to be too big of a hassle.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced to have the leak related to your air conditioner system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.
Thank you,

I had some air conditioning issues with one of my units. And then I went through some papers and found out that I had a warranty with American Home Shield. So I thought of submitting a claim. Once I did someone called me within 48 hours to set up an appointment. After that the ball was in their court. It was expedited except I had issues with my family. The technicians wanted to get started but I was kind of a holdup for them. Other than that they set up everything and they took ownership and from there it was uphill.
My air conditioner had capacitor issues and they had to replace that. But the technicians didn’t all come out just to fix it. They came to educate me too about preventive maintenance and other things I should be looking for since I was a first time home buyer. Since then my unit has been doing doing excellent. I had an awesome and seamless experience.

A leak in our faucet upstairs started a week ago and it had been leaking for two weeks. The AHS website was easy to navigate when I filed my claim and they were responsive. But the first time the technician came out, the problem was not resolved so I called American Home Shield and they sent another order out for the contractor to come back. The young lady that I talked to that time was very nice and professional. But the last time I called AHS I was on hold for 20 minutes.
The problem wasn't fixed the second time though. My house is ten feet so the guy couldn’t figure out where the leak was coming from and we had to try a couple of things. The technician was thorough and he took off the shower face, the drain face, the shower head and he took pictures off the wall to make sure there was no leak inside. Overall, it took three visits to fix the issue. The technicians were nice, professional, and looked like a plumber though. They gave me the 10:50 window and one of the things I liked was that they called before they came, I was not just sitting waiting.
Now that the problem is resolved my daughter doesn’t have to shower in my bathroom. We’ve been with American Home Shield for a while now, on and off. They're very kind and they want to get you taken care of. I didn’t feel like I was just a number, I felt like they were concerned about resolving my challenge. American Home Shield is my first choice. They give me the security and the comfort, knowing that there’s somebody out there that will be responsive to my needs.

It was somewhat difficult filing a claim with AHS over the phone. I'm not a fan of their automated system. It just keeps spinning on a loop. When I finally got through, the contractor contacted me that morning, maybe about two hours later and they got here on the same day. Part of it is because of my work schedule. I wasn't available when he's readily available. When he did show up, there were no issues. He was very professional, polite and did a great job. It took him a while to finish but he was fine. I've had issues with AHS in the past regarding their automated system and billing, but all in all, I'm satisfied.

We had two problems but one of them seemed to have been there since we moved in and it wasn't as noticeable until recently. We submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was very good and very easy to do. I was told every time that the tech was going to come and who was going to come and I really appreciate that. The contractors that they have sent were very knowledgeable, helpful and knew what they were talking about. They even checked another thing that we had supposedly added to the claims at first, which maybe we didn't and they came back later so that was very helpful. American Home Shield has done a good job and they're very clear in their invoice as far as what they covered. I was appreciative of the cost of everything and then they broke it down to how much they covered. It has been a quick and easy service.

Our experience with American Home Shield has been pretty much ugly. We were given the home warranty from the former owner when we purchased the house a year ago. When we moved in this past August, we started having flooding problems with the air conditioner. They sent us out someone who took about five minutes to say it's clogged. He blew something out and went away. Then the flooding continued and we finally got them out there two weeks later again. The guy said it was a clog problem, and then he went outside and said our condenser needs Freon. So he put Freon in it and then he said there was rodent damage on the outdoor condenser. I asked if a rodent chewed through the condenser, and he said it was the problem so he made a recommendation.
We waited for two weeks but we didn't hear anything. Every time we called, we had to stay on the line for a minimum of 30 to 75 minutes to talk to someone. I spent so much time on hold only to be told someone will look into it, and then nobody would call me back. I finally threw a fit enough to get a young lady to send me someone else with a second opinion. The last fellow that came out was very good. He was very professional and he was very thorough and he wrote everything up. He said that the coils were sitting just about on the ground and when they hit the ground, the unit will be gone. I thought his report was pretty conclusive, but he was waiting to hear from American Home Shield.
I called him back a couple of weeks later and he said that American Home Shield never ordered him to do anything. I called American Shield again and they said he didn't make any recommendations, although I have a copy of the report that says the condenser is no good. It has been two months with no resolution and I’m still waiting.
In the meantime, the water heater went out. We called it in and American Home Shield had a fellow come right over. That very day, he replaced the water heater and we were done. So I don't understand what the problem is for us to have been waiting since August 8 for a resolution on the air conditioner. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that an air conditioner costs more. Every time I called, someone said they'd look into it. Still, from the last time, we haven't heard anything back. I don't know where the ball keeps dropping, but I think it's on the part of American Home Shield. My partner wants to renew it only because he's afraid that we're going to get stuck if we don't, and we're in mid-process with the air conditioning situation. If we continue with them, it will be out of someone holding a gun to our head, not the fact that we’re happy with the company. My experience with them hasn't been the greatest.
I would not recommend them to a friend unless they have nothing to do but sit on a telephone all day. From what I understand from the contractors that were sent out, they have the same problem calling American Home Shield and trying to get through because they told me, "Don't take it personally. We have the same exact issue when we're trying to call in with our reports and stuff." Their customer satisfaction rating must be very low. All the way around, their communication skills need work, both with us and with the contractors. The contractors are saying that AHS is very big and they're all over in the United States and that you're never getting the same office when you're calling because it's an 800 number. So, one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing, the way it was put to me.
I apologize that your service request was never resolved. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to assist in resolution.

My washing machine broke on July 19th and AHS sent a contractor. The first visit was on July 24th, however, my washing machine wasn't condemned until three weeks ago. Today is October 12 and I did not have a washing machine from July 19th until three weeks ago. Over the course of that time, I have had nine visits scheduled but the contractors only came seven times. I had two no-shows and five out of the seven visits were from the same contractor. One time, the contractor said that the washing machine was fixed, but it broke before he walked out my driveway, so I called him back. He said he needed parts and ordered it.
He came back when the parts arrived, but they didn't deliver all the parts. Then it took two weeks for him to come back after we got the parts and there were huge boxes sitting around. I had a wait time from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, but he showed up at 5:30 p.m without calling. He was there until 8:00 p.m., and he fixed the machine.
I live in a townhouse and the bottom part of it is considered a basement. I have my bedroom, walk-in closet, a little area for the kids to have a playroom, a full-size bath, and a very small utility room in there. It has a square footage of approximately 800 square feet. I put my wash in at 8:30, then I sat in my room and watched TV. At about 10 o'clock, I decided to get ready to go to bed and close the dryer. I went into my laundry room and it was flooded. Not only that, the washer's tub was still two-thirds full of water and the blinker is still going on. This is an hour and a half after I started the machine. I haven't heard any noise and the base and the top of the machine was dry.
All I can assume was that the water is leaking, the hose wasn't attached properly, and that the water never hit the sensor cause the water doesn't turn off. It quietly flooded for 90 minutes. I have a $600 painting bill and a $1,795 water reclamation bill. Plus, they still have a rug to pull up and there's a $3,500 drywall and painting bill.
I can't get hold of American Home Shield because they're not open and when I call, I'm usually on the phone waiting for at least an hour and have to make multiple calls. I called my homeowners insurance and told him he can subrogate. I don't want a deal with American Home Shield insurance because I'm dealing with their contractors. I called the remediation people at 11 p.m. and they were here at 8 a.m.
The next day, I'm on the phone for an hour before I got hold of American Home Shield again. I had to wait another five days before they sent somebody. The remediation people tried to get me to say it was my machine's fault, that it was my fault that it flooded. I told them that the guy replaced the belts, the agitator, the basin, and almost all the hardware that was in my machine. It's not my machine's fault. AHS sent the same guy out and he sees the damage. He looks under the machine for 10 to 15 minutes, then he says there's nothing wrong with the machine.
I think the hose was loose and he did not want to admit it. I have to wash clothes so I started using the machine carefully. I watched it and didn't leave that machine alone. I had four loads to be done, but it broke again. This time, when I called American Home Shield, I got somebody who was sensible and was actually listening. I said not to send GE and send somebody else. The contractor came out and he looked under it. The belt was broken again and the pulley mechanism was bent and unrepairable.
The guy replaced the whole interior inside the machine but he never addressed the basic problem, which was the pulley mechanism that had sheared the belt again. This is the third belt that the pulley mechanism had sheared, the original one and then two others. Now I got the machine to death. It hasn't been two weeks yet since I put in the materials. I went out and got a better machine. American Home Shield offered me $487 for my replacement value. I bought the machine from a recommended area and had it replaced professionally.
I've spent $730 and I have submitted it to AHS. They have another week to respond with my check because they said that they take 10 to 14 days. I went on to their website and I got hold of somebody there. I went through the messenger and I sent a copy of my check through there. I also sent a copy of the letter that AHS sent me and a copy of the receipt. Now, I'm waiting to see if I get paid. The machine was seven years old and I know they have to pay the replacement cost since that's in their contract. I expected an offer from 200 to 300, but they offered me $487. It is a good and equivalent offer.
They should have fixed the machine within so many calls. Plus, they need to change the tech without having someone complain if the same contractor visits five times without fixing the machine. GE repair refused to send a different technician and said if they send a different technician, they'd have to charge an additional fee. They are the ones that made the mistake but they are covering themselves.
I have used American Home Shield on a few other things and it takes forever to get them on the phone. Once you get them on the phone, you've got a 50-50 chance of getting somebody who is knowledgeable and who really wants to help you. If you get the right person, it could be handled fairly decently. I've had my water heater replaced by them. Plus, My daughter just had her dryer fixed by them. I had no issues with either of those things. My daughter's washing machine broke last year and it took over three months for AHS to resolve the issue.
My water heater also went out, in the middle of the night and I had a plumber. I couldn't go without water for a few days so I told AHS that I had to get my plumber out here. They okayed it, but they took forever and it was not an easy fix. And when he fixed it, he put a new one in and they paid him. He came and checked it out. He got a hold of American Home Shield and ordered the part. He was back the next day and within three days, I had my water heater back.
My daughter just had her dryer go off. It took them three weeks to get the dryer issue fixed and part of that was because the repairmen ordered the wrong parts and had to reorder. The dryer is working now though. American Home Shield has three basic problems. One, answering the phone and being able to contact them in a reasonable amount of time. Two, the people who they train are catch-me-if-you-can. And three, the contractors they use for whatever reason are inept. I'm retired and I could sit here on the phone with them. I can take the time and sit there from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Somebody who has to work won't be able to. Their premiums are good but only go for this company if you have time to sit and wait for people to come.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting your washer machine. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

I've been with AHS for 11 years. I called them about my oven and I had to do a recording but they got back to me the same day. The guys that came out were professional and on time. There were follow-ups made due to parts. With my dryer, they couldn't decide what was wrong with it. They came out once and said they had to get a part and they'd be here the next day. It was the right part, but it didn't fix the problem. They ended up not being able to fix it and we were without a dryer for weeks. They replaced the dryer but it was not an equivalent dryer. From what I've heard from other people, AHS is as good as any other home warranty place out there. But they could also work on having somebody actually answer the phone.

I was trying to be proactive in the hopes that I would not need American Home Shield but it turned out that I needed it. It has been a convenient service for me to get for unexpected repairs like when all of a sudden my icemaker stopped working or when my AC got repaired every summer. When I thought it was the final time, it happened again this summer.
All three contractors by AHS were professional and they knew what they were doing, got to the task at hand, within minutes knew what I needed and ordered whatever needed to be done. They told me the expectation of when the part or replacement would arrive too. It was really nice to have text messages from AHS that told me when the second appointment was so it was convenient to schedule my day and not have to stay home and wait for the repairman to show up. Recently I submitted a claim online for the drain to my washer and it was very easy to do. Everything’s working in order and I've been telling my family and friends to get American Home Shield.

I had two first-time claims that I filed by phone with AHS because I wanted to make sure that they were going to be covered and that I talked to somebody. The reps I talked to were great and everything was good. One of the issues was with the dryer which started a month ago but we kept kind of nursing it. The catch on the door where the door goes into was cracking so they fixed that. After that, the dryer looked new for a while though it was getting old. The other problem I had was with the plumbing as some of the toilets were not flushing properly. The guys came out and replaced all the innards, three of them, and a couple of little tubes at the top. Before the repair, we had replaced one of the toilets completely and we’re super happy that we didn’t have to replace a whole toilet this time. It saved us money for a while. The toilets need to be replaced because they’re awful, but we’ll just wait.
It is crazy to have something like that which could be frustrating and inconvenient but American Home Shield made our life easier and working with them has been a really great experience. The only thing is, I got a notice saying we're past due on our bill. All this kind of scares me as no one has ever billed me. I got online and tried paying it but the payment wasn't going through. So I called their 1-800 number but I still think there’s an outstanding payment that I need to make with them. Other than, overall, in my mind, they're still very good.

We had a problem with the lights and there were some outlets that weren't working, so I called the 800 number. American Home Shield got me somebody, and within 24 hours, I had somebody at my house to look at the electrical. For us who live in the rural areas, I like the fact that we’re able to talk to a person on the phone, not just an automated system. That’s really important because not everybody has access to email, or you may ran out of power and won't have any access to email. It's been painless with American Home Shield. One time that I had a problem with the contractor, I called them and they immediately took care of it. They sent somebody else out so I was very happy.

My real estate agent suggested American Home Shield so I started last August and I bought the yearly package. We got a leak underneath the sink and water in the shower. I told my real estate agent and she helped me to submit the claim online. I paid AHS the money and AC Plumbing came out. They said they had to assess what was needed then they got back to me a week later. It's now three weeks later and I'm still waiting because they are scheduling the appointment and I work. I've been trying to get somebody to speak with AC plumbing but I've been getting the runaround. I would ask who's off to come and be there but they're not showing up at that time. For the last appointment, I took half the day off from my job and then they claimed that the plumber went there and my gate was locked so they took a picture and left. But why didn’t they call me?
It's becoming ridiculous because people are taking time off. I've asked my son and his fiancée. In fact, my son has been at my home since eight o' clock today, waiting for the plumber. He texted me that the plumber is not there yet and now I'm on my way home on my lunch break. I can't totally blame it on American Home Shield though because they do have good benefits but I hope the experience would be better.
I hate to hear that you've had less than satisfactory service with AHS. A social media rep will reach out to you shortly. Thanks.

We made a claim for two separate plumbing issues and only one thing got put on the ticket. So when the techs came out they were only allowed to pick one thing and we wind up having to pay another $75 to get the other thing done. It seems that it’s a common thing that American Home Shield would go after the lowest bidder and send contractors that don’t trust that the warranty company would pay them for all the things that need to be done. And then we get caught in the middle where now we’re going to go back to American Home Shield and they would get somebody out who neither has the qualifications, skill nor proper insurance to do whatever work is required.
This has been frustrating because it’s like why don’t you just send somebody out who can do their job and not just the bare minimal. They contact different people and they hold them under strict rules of what they can and can’t fix and a lot of times it causes delay. What happens is the folks will come out to the field and say, “Okay, here is what we see is wrong.” But then American Home Shield gives us somebody else to fix it. And so those folks say, “I can’t do anything for you.” And we wind up neither having to the decide do we pay those folks or not pay those folks? We’ve had American Home Shield now for about two years and I’d say that happens about 40% of the time. We always wind up getting everything fixed but in the end we always get a result that is not efficient.

I put the request on a Saturday and somebody was out here on a Monday to come look at it. They were quick and timely. I did it online then they informed me who they’re going to have it through. I didn’t get anything back within 48 hours so I called the company they gave me and they set it up and they were able to see me that day.
I just hope that next time, if it’s a weekend when people are off, the claim must be resubmitted again on a Monday, or e-mail back to the originating company in case they do not get it on the weekdays. However, they gave me all the information and the claim number so when I called the company, they had the claim and they said, “Yeah, we can get somebody out there today.” The technician was really helpful and knowledgeable and he handled the issue really well. And I know what to do next time because he trained me a little bit. It went really good and the AC’s in good shape now. I am very satisfied.

The air conditioner pipe was leaking by my front door. The problem was it was by an electrical socket. When I originally called and made the appointment, the rep from American Home Shield gave me a company that told me they wouldn't be able to see me for a far day away. I told them I was concerned because I have an electrical socket right there and we got a potential fire hazard. She said they would find me another company that can get there sooner so I appreciated that because originally she was pushing back. They need to listen to the customer a little bit and slow down before they respond with a no, and understand what the customer is asking for and why.
She saw me another company and this company came out. The technician fixed the problem so it worked out good. He was very nice and very informative. He taught us about a few things - why it was happening and why he was doing what he was doing. That was great customer service. And he was definitely on time. He also called ahead of time to let me know what time he's going to be there. I would recommend American Home Shield.

Our refrigerator stopped working, and from the time we called American Home Shield to the time that it was fixed, it was nearly two months. There were two different contractors and there were five different visits, four of which were from people that were completely unqualified and were all from the same company. The first guy was randomly replacing parts and he had no clue what he was doing. He actually burned our cabinet with his torch while he was replacing something that wasn’t even required to be replaced. We had to pull the cabinet door off and send it out to a painter to get that taken care of as well. Finally, the fifth person that came out was great to deal with and the refrigerator is working now that he has fixed it. We have four kids, so you can only imagine the misery that the problem with the refrigerator caused in our house. American Home Shield stepped out too and they were useless.

The service workers they sent out were awesome. They took care of me and were really knowledgeable and very professional. The only thing I disliked about the whole thing was the timing between them submitting to the insurance, them actually getting that approval and then still having to wait three days to get the part in once it was approved. The problem was the blower underneath the house and not actually the AC unit outside and getting approval to cover that took several days. So luckily, we were in in a cool spot of the summer. When I have a problem with electrical or plumbing, we're never quite sure exactly where the problem lies and it could be multiple issues. To date, the contractors have been very professional and on-time. They come when they’re supposed to and the gentleman who came out for the plumbing was very good. However, Home Shield could expand their repair services. I have a generator that I don’t know who to get for repairs. The air conditioner wasn't working and we called American Home Shield. I had to wait on the phone for over an hour every time I call to get an appointment. It's a painful process and they need to figure out a way to get people to answer their phone faster. I think they do it so that you don't want to make the appointment because it costs them money every time they have to do something. So they sent one person out that was not a reputable contractor. My husband has booked the two unit with someone else. They had a clue of what was wrong, but the guy wouldn't listen. He tried putting Freon in the unit, which wasn't the issue and we knew that because we already had Freon put in the unit. But he didn't want to hear it. So, he charged it and we had to pay it. Then he wouldn't close up the service tickets so I could get somebody to come back because the air conditioner still wasn't working.
After many hours on the phone with American Home Shield, I was finally able to get somebody else to come out. They again put Freon in the unit. Then it wasn't working so we had to call back. The guy was supposed to come back but never showed up. Again, I'm not sure if it was a reputable contractor either because I don't think they use reputable contractors. They eventually ordered the part that I've had to pay all the extra money for the said service which is terrible and the worst thing ever.
My air conditioner is still not working right. Plus the weather's turning cool so I can't test it. Reputable contractors would go a long way. If AHS uses reputable contractors then they might not have their issues. Their guys show up and they're dirty, they don't have any kind of marking on their trucks and they don't have a uniform on. They're fly-by-night. I've looked up a couple of them, they are one-man-show working out of the basement of his house. My husband lost interest in the contract or I would have been right out of it. I have told everybody I know to never get involved with AHS.

By the time it was all done, I tried to call him and left multiple messages. Still I never got any response. So when the problem wasn't fixed, I had to call American Home Shield back. Because of the turnaround time, they weren't going to charge me again since I called back for the same issue. But, you can't really get in touch with them over the phone. There's an automated system that tells you, "I apologize, you called at a time where they're extremely busy. Use the website." I've waited 40 minutes the few times that I have called. The sign-up process with American Home Shield had been easy. Their rep even told me everything was covered including the small fridge. Once I’ve signed the contract, I called for the claim over the phone, the rep told me, “Oh, you’re not signed. Your fridge is not covered. The small fridge is not covered.” My contract only covered one fridge but not the small one. So, I told them that I explained to the lady that I have two fridges. She said, “Okay, yeah. That’s covered, the small fridge.” But they showed a different contract and AHS was not able to help me. I even called to cancel the warranty but a nice guy called me and said, “Why do you want to cancel it? I mean, stay with us.” So, I said, “You are a nice guy. I will stay with you.”
Then, I called to have the pool pump, filter and the electrical fixed at the same time. The guy cancelled the pool pump but fixed the filter and the pool is falling down. He took a picture of the pump and told me that it needs to be changed because it’s not safe that way. They could have worked on it since it’s still working although it’s scratched. But they said, “No, when it stops working then you call us then we’ll fix it for you.” The guy who fixed the pool sent me an estimate to change the pump which was out of the American Home Shield warranty. He wanted to charge me $1,200 for him to fix and give me a new pump. I even have the email from him.
So, when the powers started shaking and it turned off, I asked the salesman on the phone specifically if the electrical is still covered and he said it was absolutely covered. But before I called up, the contractor who showed up was asking me to pay him $100 since the electrical was not covered. I thought why do I need to pay him if it’s not covered but I paid him the $100. I called back and AHS told me that they will refund it. I’ve been waiting for one month for them to call me back regarding the issue. I will cancel from AHS because once you lose the trust, it’s hard to gain it back. I’ve had the worst experience and I will be going with Fidelity Insurance.
I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered in getting the pool filter and electrical repaired under your AHS contract.

I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with American Home Shield. We lived 10 years in Phoenix and had a great experience with a home warranty company there. They were prompt, courteous, and fixed things in a timely manner. When we moved to California, we had to go with another home warranty company because the other company was only for Arizona, and we chose American Home Shield. When our 8-year-old washing machine broke, I called AHS with the expectation that we would have a good experience. They sent a technician out in a timely manner. The technician was professional - no problems there. However, after the visit I got a call that the technician said that the problem was due to overloading the machine, and that they don't cover that. I was stunned, because I felt that we hadn't overloaded it, especially because we bought a heavy-duty machine that handles bedding.
They said we could get a second opinion, which we did. This time, I was with the technician 100% of the time. He put his hand into the machine, moved the drum a little to the right and to the left, and said it was the bearings. He said that Samsung machines were awful and that they break all the time. I got a message from AHS a few days later saying that the second tech confirmed that the problem was due to overloading the machine. I was just stunned. I was with the man 100% of the time and all he did was put his hand in the machine and move the drum back and forth a little, and he can somehow say that the problem was due to overloading?
I called AHS back and talked to several people, and finally we got a man from the technician's company on the line. I recorded all of this with their permission. He said he agreed with the tech that the ONLY POSSIBLE THING that could have happened to cause the problem was that we overloaded the machine, and that this is a valid conclusion based on the tech putting his hand into the drum and moving it back and forth a few inches. He said that there was NO other possibility. I feel strongly that I was scammed and that they just want to get the service call fees. How can it be that there is NO other possibility of ANYTHING else causing a problem besides overloading, and that you can figure this out by moving the drum back and forth a few inches? This is not right, and I'm going to contact the president of AHS.

Frustrating to wait 3 months for a $25 discount and having to write consumer affairs just to get this done. However after this review my issue was resolved, but should have never gotten this far. A companies customer service agents (phone reps) say a lot about a company and phone reps should give the customer correct information. Discounts should be applied as soon as the contract or service is started not months later.

Back in July I renewed my policy and was told I would get $25 concession fee ($25 off) for the yearly contract. This $25 has become a negative experience. From the 5x I have called I was told this fee would be processed by next billing cycle, 3-5 days (3 times told this btw), 7-10 days, that it's a different call center so they need to contact the "other" call center and my favorite, "My supervisor is working on it," even though they never patch me through to a supervisor.
I have had to wait 30+ minutes each time. Finally, almost got a supervisor to be "disconnected." I believe they are instructed not to put customers through to a supervisor. To date the 3-7 days has now been 3 months. Don't understand how getting a concession fee has turned into a 3 month wait. If this happens again next year I will not be a customer.

Everything was smooth. I had a call from the contractor within ten minutes of hanging up with the customer support department which was awesome. However, the cost is a little too high and I probably will not be continuing the service when the contract expires.

I purchased a new house and it came with an American Home Shield warranty. After more than three weeks, the AC went down, so I was forced to avail the service. I went online, put the claim in and it was simple. It took less than five minutes and someone called me the next day. We set up the appointment and the guy who came was knowledgeable, professional and great. He walked me through the whole process and gave suggestions on how to maintain the AC in better condition. American Home Shield has great and fast customer service.

Two weeks ago, we had a clogged up line. I submitted a claim by phone to AHS and then someone called within two hours. A contractor came out the next day as well. He was great, very thorough, personable and did a good job. AHS was very efficient and everything was fine. I've been with them for 15 years now.

The lower motor of my HVAC unit needed to be replaced so I submitted a claim online and it was as easy as it can be. The contractor was great, professional, on time and courteous. My HVAC has been performing perfectly since the repair and now it's freezing off. Based on this experience, I’m seriously considering continuing to buy this policy from American Home Shield year for year. It’s great.

Submitting a claim with AHS was easy. I went online then they gave me a call to make sure everything was set up and got a good time and date. They treated me well over the phone and the technicians that came were very professional. They came out four times to fix my dryer but it’s still not fixed and so I had to get it replaced. Everything was fine. AHS did an excellent job and they should keep it up.

I love American Home Shield. Everybody is always great. Recently, they had a contractor come out because of my toilet. It wouldn't flush in the morning. They came out twice, and he did something to it. He said the flapper was working fine. I found out that there was something that was sticking a little. I called and canceled the last one because I figured it out for myself, and the lady was nice. The only thing that I didn’t understand was that there's a 48 or a 24-hour window before they can come, but I understand now. I would recommend American Home Shield to everybody.

I opened a ticket online with American Home Shield. Everything was good up until the contractor reached my home and he told me he has to order the part for a water heater. The tech said he will come on Monday and I expected somebody is going to call. It was an excellent experience until that time. Two days later, Thursday, nobody showed up and no communication. The technician came this Friday.

I have contacted American Home Shield and they sent out Third Generation Plumbing. They're nice people and the guy who has come out twice has been great. However, at first they supposedly fixed the water heater but it was not fixed and I was still bathing in cold water. It works but it would shut off. It was kicking the internal breaker of the water heater so I called Third Generation Plumbing, but I didn't have a call from American Home Shield so they have to schedule everything with them. I called them, went online and put in a request for them to come back out. They came back out and the guy briefly set an oil-filled thermostat. I don't have to reset the water heater anymore but now I'm just having a couple of minutes then it gets cold again.
I called them again to let them know and request another time for them to come out and I waited until the plumbing company called me back to let them know what was going on because if they would take the time to let me explain what was happening they may be able to fix it instead of just keep coming out. Then I talked to other plumbers. I am in the construction business but I decided to get AHS because I thought it would make things easier but I ended up having my own plumber come out and he just needs to know all of it. So I am just going to tell the guy from the plumbing company to let them know and for us to figure out what was wrong and hopefully it will be resolved.
I'm having an issue with my pool pumps but I don't want to contact AHS so I have my own electrician coming out. After I added the pool pumps I thought I should call them, but it takes so long to get somebody out because I submit the things to them, then nobody calls until the next day and they can't get out for another week. I needed somebody out tomorrow and do it myself. It's been great so far just because it's not the cost that I have to worry about. I'm getting a little bit of hot water so at least I get to take a shower. It's not like when I used to get a lot of hot water, which is convenient, but that's something I can deal with. But I decided to do the pool pumps myself because it's not something I can wait on because my poolside is already turning green.

I had a very huge frustration in trying to submit a claim for an AC. I could not get to them to tell them I have a claim. I was on hold for an hour and forty-seven minutes and then got disconnected. Then I was on hold another hour. Their website kept knocking me out and their email stated I wasn't part of their program, but I was. Luckily, my real estate agent knows their district manager.
AHS argued with the people I had doing the work. The AC unit and the furnace were 18 years old so when I bought the property, I also bought the warranty knowing that this could happen. Due to the mechanics of the heat pump, you can't do the air-conditioning without the furnace. I've had to pay for the furnace out of pocket which really makes me mad. They covered the air-conditioning part of it but not the furnace part. I'm disappointed that I had to put up $1,700 for a furnace because they can't acknowledge the reality that they can't work without each other. Though it’s better than $3,400, I was not pleased with the experience at all. But I love the people that AHS used. They didn’t use a fly-by-night operation, they used someone that was decent. They're really good people and they argued with AHS and fought for me.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting your AC system repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.

Water was dripping from the pen of our air conditioning. American Home Shield tried to put some compressed air to clean up the pipes but it's still dripping. The contractors were very good but I would like to invite them back on Saturday. They could bring some liquid to remove the molds inside of the pipe because this air gives out filth and pipe looks like it was clogged. It seemed this connection between the heater and the water condenser can go to the tenants then go to the sewage system.

When I submit a claim, I usually do it online and their response time is good. The last time I submitted one was for a furnace issue which has been resolved. The techs were very good. They’ve fixed things the first time they came out. I had only one incident a couple of years ago where the guy had a bad attitude, but the people from AHS were all very helpful in taking care of it. They’re also always prompt and very honest.

On Sept. 21, 2017 our AC went out. We have American Home Shield (AHS) so we put in a repair request and received a notice that Total Air Care (TAC) would be handling. I immediately called TAC and got an appointment for the 25th. Tech came out, we need new coils. In the meantime, my husband has had a heart attack and just out of the hospital so I request AHS to make this an expedite call. It took TAC one week to get the paperwork to AHS for approval, and when I would call AHS they said they are waiting for TAC. On the occasions when AHS would call TAC, they would have to wait for very long periods of time. Who lets their contractor treat them like that? The part was finally ordered but could not get an installation date until Oct. 6th. The technician arrives with the wrong part.
No one can come out until Oct. 9th with a different part. I was promised that due to what happened on Friday a technician would be at my house at 12:00. 1:30 arrives and no technician so I called. The young lady said there were notes that no part is available but it said technician is scheduled, so she said she needed to straighten it out and call me right back. By 4:00 I still had not heard so I called again and was told the part wasn't available until the 10th and a technician would be out between 2 and 6. I explained that my husband had an appt. with the cardiac specialist and must leave the house by 3:00. So, they said they could move the appt. up to 10:00 - 2:00. At 1:45 I received a call from the technician that he was running late and couldn't be there until after 3:00, so I explained the situation and asked if he could come over after 5:30. He said he would check with the office.
Next call I get is scheduling to reschedule for the 12th of Oct. I asked why the tech couldn't come back later since he had the part on his truck and I was told they don't do it that way. I should have waited for the technician. Again, I explained the situation and what I was promised. I asked for a supervisor, Marie, or Maria **, who was extremely rude. So that I wouldn't crawl through the phone and strangle her I accepted the appt. for the 12th and called AHS again. They were of no help. They tried to call TAC but was told no one available and AHS accepted their response. Technician arrives on the 12th, works about 5 hours, we had AC until 1:00 on the 13th. Called TAC, they said no one could come out until the afternoon of the 16th. Again, I argued that they had to send someone on the 14th but I was basically hung up on.
Called AHS, they called another company to come out the morning of the 14th. That technician said the part was installed incorrectly and TAC has used the wrong Freon, which is against EPA rules, he couldn't touch it. Called AHS again, they wanted TAC to go back out. I told AHS I did not want this company back in my home. I was told that the contract liaison would look into this and get back to me. I still have not heard from the contract liaison. Tech arrives on the 16th, said it wasn't the coils but the compressor that is leaking. On the 17th I called AHS to tell them what transpired, they would look into it and have TAC expedite the paperwork. I repeatedly asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor told the lady to handle it and would not speak with me.
I called back that evening and was told a supervisor would call me the next day. TAC did not expedite the paperwork and I have had to call AHS and TAC every day, sit on hold for up to 52 minutes at a time, that was the longest wait time but usually over 30 minutes for both companies and never heard from AHS supervisor. Spoke with AHS on 10/19 since I had not heard from AHS or TAC. AHS had just received paperwork, I was told they were suppose to call in the order to expedite, but submitted online instead. AHS did not want to take responsibility at all for the company they contract with. When I would ask questions I was repeatedly told I would have to ask TAC, well they either lie or tell me to talk with AHS.
Finally got a call from TAC today, the 19th, saying it would be the 23rd before they could come out. Needless to say, I demanded to speak with the manager or owner. Supervisor came on and could reschedule for the 20th. My concern is about the Freon at this point. Back in Aug. they said I had to use R22 Freon because of the type of unit I have, but on the 12th of Oct. they used 407C Freon, much cheaper and they did not clean out my system to use a cheaper Freon. If they can use a cheaper Freon why was I not offered this option in Aug.? So far, no response from TAC and AHS says I have to deal with TAC, even though AHS sent this company to my home repeatedly.

My son bought a house with a warranty and I have had my home for 35 years but I've never heard of home warranties. Then he had an issue and he had it fixed very quickly so when I saw that, I checked into it then I went ahead and bought a home warranty with American Home Shield, which was one of the best things I ever did. I recently submitted a claim over the phone and I had good time with their representatives. There was a safety on the range top that went out and the contractor had to know where the part for it and he found it real quick. As he went along, he was also explaining what was wrong, what went down, and what was and wasn’t there. Then the part came within three days and job was done. The range is working perfectly now and I'm very happy with American Home Shield. They were very professional and knowledgeable, and I like that they did the job as quickly as possible.

This is my first time doing a claim with American Home Shield and I am not too pleased with them. I heard reviews and results that they do great with prompt service and stuff getting taken care of, but my experience has been runaround after runaround. I've had issues with my heat and air unit. It didn’t feel like my air was cooling my house efficiently. I called American Home Shield and let them know of the problem. The first contractor who came said my air was fine but my heat unit side was bad. They were going to condemn it where they had to take the unit back to their shop. But the ductwork definitely needed to be repaired, if not, replaced. American Home Shield called me and said, “Well, if you're not pleased with it, we can send another to give a second opinion.” Another company came out this past Monday and did a second look. They did nothing because they were trying to say it didn’t qualify to do the work.
Since then, nobody has come out and did anything. I called American Home Shield yesterday and they’ll be emailing the second company that came out. It seemed that American Home Shield and the contractors are contradicting. It’s either they come out and see the issue themselves to get the true appraisal or make sure they are on the same page with the contractors.

We purchased a contract with American Home Shield a few months ago. The day I called and purchased the policy, I dealt with a person who was very helpful over the phone. We had one service call out to a rental property that we own. The tenants reported a plumbing issue, and I contacted American Home Shield. The plumbers who were assigned to do the job called me to arrange an appointment to go out to the property. I referred them directly to the tenant to set that up, and they did. They went out and diagnosed the issue very quickly and turned the heat back up. The repair was silly. Probably one of my tenant's children had turned down the thermostat on the water heater, which is why they weren’t getting any hot water. It was 35 bucks I would rather have not spent, but it’s saved me from having to go out and do it, which is kind of the whole point.
Submitting the claim online was super easy to the point of probably being a little too simplified. There should be a box that allows you to put some comments in. Right now, the way it pops up, it says which system needs servicing - air-conditioning, heating, plumbing, blah blah blah. You click one of those, and that’s the only input you get to give. I would have much preferred to be able to click the box and also have a place to put some comments in to say exactly what the problem is. Nevertheless, Having the American Home Shield policy has brought us great peace of mind.

My freezer had some issues and I filed a claim with AHS. However, it takes forever to talk to somebody on the telephone. It's not uncommon to sit on the phone for an hour or an hour and a half before being able to talk to a live person but they are fine once you get through them. They take a bit of info then have you assigned to a certain company and inform you that you'll be hearing from them within 24 hours. When the contractors give you an appointment and show up, it goes very well. They take care of the job. The last time, my freezer had several different issues that weren't related to each other. They fixed the leak and ordered a part. However, my fridge wouldn't make the noise that it'd been making, so he told me that when it made the noise, to record it on my telephone.
He gave me his personal cell phone number so that I could send the video to him. At which point, the technician responded almost immediately giving me guesses to what he thought it was and told me to contact his company the next day, and they would set up a recall for me. I did that and I didn't hear back from them. I called and left at least a couple of messages. When I got somebody live on the phone, they told me that because it was a recall, I had to call American Home Shield back to make sure that they acknowledged there's a recall and that they didn't charge me again when they came out to service the appliance. I did that and there was an hour and a half wait on the phone again.
AHS told me I would be hearing from the contractors within 24 hours but I didn't, it took several days. They called me and ultimately scheduled an appointment for today to come out and look at my appliance between noon and 5:00, but I got a phone call this morning telling me that their driver's truck broke down and that they have to cancel today's appointments. The next available appointment for me will be Monday, October 30th.
I asked for assurance. The day I took the video of my freezer making the noise was September 25th. Now, it won't be until October 30th before they're able to come out and address the problem. When I asked about that, they said that American Home Shield was well aware of how busy they were. I told them okay and that I will be home between 8:00 and noon on October 30th. Hopefully, nothing will go wrong with my freezer between now and then. However, with that annoying noise, something is going out. Hopefully, it doesn't go out and we'll move forward.
A couple of years ago, the very first time I had a problem with my refrigerator, it died. I don't remember the part they had to replace, but I lost food. The refrigerator wasn't that old. I also asked about some door baskets inside my refrigerator that had cracked. At first, they told me it was not a covered item because it did not affect the actual operation of the refrigerator. I countered it and told them that yes, it does because the way the refrigerator freezer is set up, a good portion of my storage is on those doors. If the little plastic pieces are broken to a point to where I can't comfortably use them, I'm losing a lot of square footage in my refrigerator. They still told me that it wasn't covered, so I took it upon myself and I researched it. I found out that I didn't have to replace the entire basket. I could just order the little clear plastic inserts. They pop in and out of the front portion of the door baskets.
I ordered them online at a fraction of the cost that the appliance company told me. They had told me an amount very close to a couple hundred dollars. Through my research, I found out I could replace them for $68. I did that and within a couple of days, I got a phone call from American Home Shield telling me that they had reevaluated the situation and agreed that it did have an effect and that they were going to cover those costs. At which point, I shared that I had found this good deal and it wasn't going to cost them a couple $100. I asked if they could they reimburse me for the $68. I submitted information to them a couple of times and was never reimbursed for those parts. I finally gave up.
I also had issues with my stovetop and they deemed it dead. It's too old and they can't even find the replacement parts to fix it. They told me an amount that they would reimburse me to replace it. My husband and I decided at that point that we wanted to convert from electricity to gas. We are still working on that process. I'm hoping and praying that there's a notation on my account for the day that I call and tell them that I've replaced my stovetop and that have a receipt for them. I hope that they're going to honor it. Last time I talked to them, somebody confirmed that that was still open and should not be a problem. Generally, they come through. However, if my husband worked in town more than he does, I wouldn't have this policy. But, since my husband is gone so much, I don't want him to have to take care of all these things in the little bit of time that he is home.
I deal with it, however, the number of hours that I put in to sitting on the phone and making repeated phone calls back and forth is very frustrating. The average person would not have the time for it. Even if it goes as smoothly as we've had it, they wouldn't have the time to be as persistent as I am. They're trying and it's becoming more automated lately. It used to be that when the technician showed up at your house, you wrote them a check for $75 for the copay. Now, American Home Shield takes it from my credit card the day the technician arrives. I don't know if that's a way of guaranteeing they get their money. For this current instance, when this is supposed to be a recall, I'm hoping they don't decide they need to draw another $75 out of my account for the same issue.
I understand that you encountered some issues to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

American Home Shield is a great service and it covers things that would be pricey if I had to pay out of pocket for repairs. But as far as their customer service, it is not great. They can be difficult to get a hold of if one needs to talk to somebody in person. We have had past experiences with other contractors that have not gone well, and I sat on hold for hours trying to get a person through them to get that situated. Yet our most recent experience has been easy and wonderful. There was a part broken on our air conditioner and the contractor who came out was really nice and on time. He was able to fix it without even coming in the house. He walked me through it over the phone and he didn’t have to wake my husband up, which is really nice because he works third shifts. So the A/C was unplugged from the wall, the piece was screwed, the broken part was replaced, and the A/C was fixed. The A/C has worked out well and it was perfect.

I had a problem with my garden tub and sink so I told AHS that I had some faucets that were leaking. I paid them $75 then the contractor showed up like he was supposed to. My two dogs, my wife, and I went out to get out of his way. He went in for a few minutes then came out to say the sinks were fixed. Then he said he couldn't fix my tub since he needed to get a part. He told me that someone would call me the following day about it then they'll ship the part to me and he'll be back to fix the tub. This was on a Thursday.
On Wednesday the following week, I still haven't heard a word from these folks. So I called them again the following day and they told me they didn't have anything regarding my order. They passed me off to someone in charge of ordering. Another lady picked up and I explained my problem to her. She told me she didn't see anything regarding my order and that the tech didn't tell them about it. I told her that's none of my concern and that I've already paid but my tub was not fixed and my sink was still leaking.
She told me she'll call me back within 30 minutes and when she did, she said she ordered the part I needed. She told me I needed to call Home Shield and tell them that the contractor didn't fix the tub. She also told me that they'll call back as soon as they know when the part was coming. They called and scheduled the following day, a Friday, between 8:00 and 12:00. The guy called at 10:30 to say he'll be here in 45 minutes. He arrived at 11:30, walked in and said he could fix my tub. I told him not to forget my kitchen sink because it's still leaking. He replied that he didn't know anything about that. I told him that I called AHS for a recall and he said that he'll check.
Then he went to his truck, came back, and after 20 minutes, he said he had fixed my tub. I asked about my sink and he told me he didn't have the right tool to fix it. I told him to come with me outside since I probably had what he needed, and I did but he couldn't get the top off. I tried to help him but I also couldn't do it. He told me that it must be stuck and that he couldn't fix it. He said he'll have to call someone. But I had to leave and he also left.
At about lunchtime the next day, while I was eating lunch, I got a phone call from American Home Shield. The rep said that he was trying to okay a charge that KNS Plumbing submitted that was outside of the scope of what was called in to start with. He told me that I have to pay another $75 but I told him no. I had this guarantee and I was supposed to get this fixed. I told him to just forget it and that I was not going any further with that. He told me about a program where I could pay the money in kind and get it fixed. I told him to check on that, let me know and I'll see what I thought.
The next day I got a call from someone who was very business-like. It's like she thought I was trying to cheat somebody. She told me they could okay $250 for me to get my own plumber, but I have to pay the plumber first and send them the bill. I told her to just forget it. I also have not heard from KNS Plumbing. So I was very disappointed and I certainly was not impressed with AHS. But I have another plumbing problem and they're going to send the same people.

Then I had one lighting fixture that was blowing bulbs all the time and another one that got a short. But only one thing was repaired and I paid for something else to be done. The guy told me that the fixtures aren’t covered by the warranty, but when I looked it up it said it was. I'll need to call AHS and find out about it. Other than that, I have been with AHS for 10 years and they've done a good job.

Our swimming pool heater was not functioning correctly, so I contacted American Home Shield for repair and they sent out a guy who came to be incompetent. He allegedly ordered parts and then he told me he wasn’t available for the weekend. When the following week came, I called the tech and he said that he still hadn’t gotten me a schedule so I became upset because the problem I had involves a medical situation. And so, I called American Home Shield and they sent out someone else who identified the same kind of problem that the first tech identified. However, they said they couldn’t do any work until I contracted with them for four weeks.
They told me it’d take two weeks for them to go through their review. They have a process for sending money versus completing the claims themselves, which took another two weeks. They sent me the money and I’m taking care of the repairs myself. And then, they also told me, for them to cover anything in the future, I need to have the work done by somebody certified and licensed, and I need to send proof that the work was done, which is another irritant to me because there are a lot of people qualified to do the work that may not have the license. As far as I’m concerned, they can send someone out to see that everything’s operating. But I got my money from them so I’m going to switch to the other home warranty company. They have a very poor customer and product service, very slow response, and they don’t pay attention. They don’t even support the Americans with Disabilities Act.
I would like to apologize for the delay in service you have experienced with getting the pool heater repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.

American Home Shield works pretty good. The reps who I spoke with were nice and they had me on hold for quite a bit but other than that, I'd end up going on a long time, each time I called. I know they get a lot of calls every day and eventually when I got someone, they were very helpful. The first problem I had was my stove and the contractors ended up getting the part that I needed and fixing it.
The second thing was a washing machine. They ordered parts for it, thinking it might have been an electrical or digital issue. Then they realized they couldn't fix it. They tried to find the parts and ordered them. After they found the parts they could find, they replaced them. But the ones they couldn't find were the ones that they really needed so they had to replace the machine. It took about three or four months but they eventually replaced it. They were very knowledgeable and patient with me because I asked a lot of questions. They were really nice people I didn't have a problem with. Everything's working fine now. I'm satisfied with the service that's why I continue to pay my money on my warranty. I don't have a problem paying as long as I'm getting what I need. All in all, the experience was timely and effective.

I've had American Home Shield for a long time and my experience with them was good. They have sent contractors from other companies and they have all been nice. Recently, I had an air conditioner compressor issue. The company they sent out to fix it, didn't fixed it completely. The house never cooled up. They had to send somebody back out there a few days later to get it fixed correctly.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for about 15 years and we’ve been very pleased with them. We have recommended them to plenty of people and they were very pleased using them too. My most recent claim with them was for my new air conditioner that didn’t work. We’re in Texas and we get hot. I called Sherrell Air Conditioning and Heating because that’s the company I like and if I’d call AHS, they would send anybody out. Sherrell said they couldn’t file a claim for me. I haven’t had filed a claim since we pay in advance. So Sherrel called AHS and then AHS called me. I told them that I wanted Sherrell. In a matter of hours, Kim, the guy from Sherrell, came right out and he did a great job. The AC has been wonderful after the repair and I slept nice and cool.
Years ago, every once in a while AHS would have sent out bad-looking people that I was a little afraid of but now, everybody we deal with is very nice. When I call to put in an order, I’d get a text or an email or both that says who’s going to call me in a matter of how long. Sherrell would also call ahead of time and give a 30-minute notice which I like. I have a maintenance agreement with them too. They’d come out in October and about April to check things out and make sure things are running okay.

The pilot light of my water heater was going out. I called AHS and a contractor got out here right away. The tech fixed our water heater and he was really nice. He put the new regulator and a new thermostat in and checked all the connections. Now, we are having a little problem with our ductwork. I think we're losing a bunch of heat in the underground. I think some of the ductwork aren't exactly attached correctly so I'm going to call on that and get service on that too before the winter sets in.

I honestly do not know where to even begin. Having to work with AHS over the past 4 years has been incredibly aggravating and I would urge anyone considering signing a home warranty contract with AHS to run the other way. Besides being a complete waste of money, AHS contracts the absolute worst (unqualified, rude, destructive, not punctual, etc.) vendors imaginable.
My first experience with an AHS vendor was to fix a clothing dryer when my contract began about 4 years ago. The vendor who AHS sent to my home could not figure out what the problem was and required multiple visits – during one of those visits, he broke several floor tiles (in my 1-year old house) when he insisted on beating the front panel of my dryer on the floor (with a hammer). AHS finally sent someone from GE to fix the clothing dryer and it was a very quick and easy repair for the GE person.
Fast forward to almost 4 years later… Although over the past 4 years I had learned that it was a lot less costly and much less of an inconvenience to just hire repair people outside of AHS for repairs, I decided to use AHS to fix a garage door opener this year (it seemed like it would be a simple repair and wouldn’t be a problem). AHS sent a repair person (who we were not even able to verify if he was a valid business owner and was licensed) and, instead of trying to fix the garage door opener, proceeded to try to sell a very expensive new garage door system to us (which was not covered by AHS). He did not even bother to look at the existing garage door opener. He was basically using AHS to sell his items and services. For the sake of brevity, I am not including all details, but I assure you that the repair person was a complete con artist and AHS was not much better.
AHS is probably not the best home warranty company for you, if you do not enjoy: Holding on the phone for 1+ hours to speak with an AHS customer service rep about an issue, and then following an extremely lengthy hold, speak with a complete idiot who does not have the desire or knowledge to assist with an issue. Having your personal property destroyed by incompetent repair people. Having your time wasted while waiting for repair people who either do not show up on time -or - require multiple visits for something that should not require multiple visits. Having repair people attempt to scam you for services and equipment that are not necessary. I have since changed home warranty companies and I assure anyone considering AHS, there are less expensive options out there with much better service and more qualified technicians.

In the seven years I've been with AHS, my overall experience has been positive. Sometimes I get a great experience but sometimes it's a terrible experience. It all depends on the contractor. Getting my AC unit repaired was a disaster because the first six times, AHS sent me a terrible contractor. By the time the contractor finally said he cannot handle the unit, he didn't know what to do whether it needs to be replaced. By that time, the air conditioning upstairs wasn't working well for over a month in the middle of summer.
I called AHS a number of times and they contacted the contractor. The contractor confronted AHS that he was going to call in a replacement for the unit. But when he called, he requested for another contractor. But the second contractor was great. He was able to repair the unit but he actually had to change almost everything in the unit. The first contractor was completely not up to the job and AHS was not managing their contractor well. And the main problem with AHS was that it's very difficult to reach them. They should put in more reps to answer the phone. I had to reach them about this specific issue many times, and every time it took over an hour. But once I reached them, it was a good experience and most of their reps were very helpful too.

I had an issue with the other company that I had so I went back to American Home Shield. The reps are always decent and nice when I call in my claim and I’ve never had any problems with them. They get somebody out right away and I don’t have to wait a big amount of time. I also like that American Home Shield sends people from a notable company versus that other place who sent me somebody in a beat-up van and didn’t know what they’re doing in the first place.
I've had problems with the refrigerator twice now and the first time, a fellow came out and replaced the thermostat. It started doing the same thing again, but it was our fault because we had some stuff up in the freezer that was blocking the vents which was causing the freezer to freeze up and kept the refrigerator from cooling. That was taken care of with no problem at all and the fridge is working good now. I was caught by surprise because I didn’t have to pay the man the deductible when the technician came out and they simply added it to my bill. I’m okay with it and it’s better that way. I’d definitely recommend American Home Shield.

My latest experience with AHS was good. I submitted a claim online for a dishwasher problem. They sent a repairman but he needed to order a part. After waiting for three days for the part to come in, he came back and fixed my dishwasher to my satisfaction. However, back when the dishwasher first stopped working, I called them and they sent somebody to fix it. The guy came out and Sears said it was fixed. However, it was not fixed. I called AHS and the lady I talked to said she'd call Sears to see what was going on. The ticket was still open online. I was holding on the line when we got cut off. I thought she'd call back. Five days later, no call and the ticket is closed.
We only found out that it still wasn’t fixed when my wife filled up the dishwasher and cut it on before going to bed. Then my wife wakes up and asked if I smelled smoke. We went down and saw that it was the dishwasher, so we cut it off. My wife was upset with me. I called AHS and told them I talked to a lady but never got a callback. I told them that the dishwasher wasn't fixed and yet the ticket is now closed. The person I was talking to was nice and calmed me down. She told me that they're going to send someone else out here and won't charge me for it. She gave me the tech's number and told me that if they can't get to me that day, then they'll get to me by the next day.
The techs called that same day and told me they'll get to me the next day and that's exactly what happened. They came out and checked it. I gave them the whole story. They put in a new part, but then told me that that it's something with the voltage thing. Their specialty was not the dishwasher so they were still missing some parts. They ordered what they needed and put it in. When I cut the dishwasher on I saw the water running and it was fixed. We had a little hiccup but they raised their game up to satisfy us here. I own a business myself and I understand that every once in a while you have a little hiccup. They're not perfect but when I told them what their mistake was, they fixed it. Right now, I'm happy and satisfied with their service and I would tell somebody to use them.

I've been with AHS since July when I bought the house. I’ve had two claims with the dishwasher and that was fixed. Last week, I made a claim on a refrigerator that is still in progress. The reps were good when I spoke with them on the phone. The only complaint I have is that when the guy came out today to try to fix the fridge with the parts, he ran into an issue. It has been two and a half weeks since my fridge went out and I’m probably looking at another two weeks without it.
The contractors have been amazing, been very upfront with me, very truthful, very organized, except for the first contractor that I had with the dishwasher since I couldn’t get in touch with them. The guy from that company pestered me for about a week, trying to come out and see it when I’ve already rescheduled. Another thing, it has been extremely hard for me to get in contact with AHS through the phone. Each time I called, I waited over an hour. Also, getting the replacement part or the new appliance has been a headache. And I’m not being informed what their decision is until a few days after.
On the other hand, DK Appliances has been coming out the last three times and I love them. The guys that they’ve sent out have been amazing. They came out once for the dishwasher, once for the initial visit for the fridge, and then came out again today to do the replacement part. I’m extremely happy that we decided to go with American Home Shield. We were going to go with another warranty company. Besides the few complaints that I have, everybody that I talked to has been very helpful, very informative and very understanding.

We had a plumbing issue which we submitted a claim for with American Home Shield. Submitting the claim online was fine, but calling was ridiculous. I was on hold for 90 minutes. And then when I finally got through, they hung up. I had to call again to explain the problem. Then they took the money out of my account, which I already knew, but the order was closed without the plumbing issue getting fixed. It’s still doing the same thing it was doing before the technician came out. He just said, “Oh, it’s probably this.” It really wasn’t.
So now, I have to submit another claim. I will have to pay another $125, which I’ve been calling to make a complaint, but I can’t get through. I’ve been calling three days. It’s just frustrating. I’ve been to lunch, came back, it’s still on hold. By the time I get through, it’s like, “Okay, your hold time will be seven minutes.” And then it’s on hold and then they hang up when they get to the phone. I went to look at the reviews, and everybody has the same problem. That’s not a company I want to support with the money that I’m paying, and then the work is not done. With that warranty, I’m not satisfied right now. They’re not professional and they lack customer service.

And once I got the email, I called them and the representative took care of what I was asking for and got me set up pretty quickly with an appointment from our contractor. I'm really happy with the contractor. They were on time, professional and did the work. They explained what they were doing and the two recommendations that they had for us, which we ended up going with that day. One time they shorted me $400.00 for refund and I had to call 4 different times to finally get someone who GOT IT and made certain my money was refunded. What should have been a routine service call turned into a week of dealing with incompetent service, apathetic and hostile employees, and frankly, business practices that can only be described as unethical. Over the course of two weeks after we made the claim with American Home Shield, the following occurred: We were left without hot water for 6 days, unable to bathe or do laundry. We took time off from work on four separate occasions to accommodate the installer. We're denied the option to get a second opinion, leaving us no choice but to pay the exorbitant out-of-pocket fees quoted by the vendor that we were forced to use.
Had to negotiate directly with the vendor to reduce our out of pocket by $140. Customer service representatives refused to escalate the case to a supervisor when directly requested. Repetitive disconnection of calls by customer service, authorizations, and options department representatives. Hold times of over 45 minutes for almost every phone interaction. After submitting a complaint via Facebook, we were promised to be contacted by the social media service team within 4-5 days. Today is the 7th day and we still have not been contacted. Promises of callback from Bryce ** (supervisor in authorizations department) and Lana (supervisor of options) that were never delivered.
Additional damage was done to our home as a result of an inept and/or careless installation. We now have mold in our garage from the old water heater not being drained prior to removal (instead allowing it to just empty its contents into the garage). Also, from the time of the installation, we no longer have cold water running in our bathrooms. The vendor will not return our calls to repair the damage. I went as far as searching for executive leadership of AHS and ServiceMaster (the parent company) online and sent them an e-mail with the information above. All I got in return was an "apology" letter from the executive relations department.

On the 1st of October 2017 I placed a call for repair. The contractor they gave me did not call me. I called him. He came out on the 2nd and said he had to order a part. AHS says that he has not called for an authorization. It is now 15 days later and I have been on the phone trying to get a resolution. I have spent a total of 8 hours and 48 minutes on hold with the several calls I made. I am 78 years old and have health issues that require surgery on the 19th. In the meantime since he had not shut the water to the dishwasher off it kept on filling on its own even when not on and the floor which is Pergo had to be ripped up. One layer of luan and 1/2 inch plywood because mold was there. I have a 7x8 foot section in a 247 sq. ft. kitchen down to the sub-floor.
Monday the water remediation company came and I have blowers and humidifiers running. Also all the base cabinets next to the dishwasher had to be taken out because mold was starting to form. Today I got the quote from the contractor to replace the custom cabinets and floor in the kitchen and adjacent hall, the drywall behind the dishwasher, total cost $8153.00. Today I called again and after being on hold for 57 minutes I was told that the contractor had 48 hours to reply to AHS. I think 15 days is more than enough time to rectify this mess. I don't know what to do. I am frustrated beyond words.

This is our first year with American Home Shield. They had a good review and the technician was absolutely experienced. The other company that we had excused everything wrong with the installation. They denied the case directly and we had a big fight with them. We did an inspection before moving to our house last year and everything was fine. The people before us used American Home Shield and they always fix the other house clean and nice. But when you have kids who shower and play in the bathtub every day, the use of the water is four times than what they used and that's when you see the problems.
The first tech that AHS sent did a good job by fixing and figuring out where was the problem because there was a leak coming from the restroom to the kitchen and he said it's continuous running water. The source of the leak was the small hose that connected the cup to the main line of water. That tub is connected to the main line of water next to the toilet with a small hole which was broken up and has a hole so it became a sprinkler. He fixed it right away and left. But the problem was that they don't do the dry wall. So, to complete the work, AHS sent the other company and that’s where the problem happened.
The contractor came late but they did a good job. It’s a one-foot hole so he just placed it back and fused it in. But it wasn't like that in the kitchen. They tried but couldn’t fix it. He didn't have the proper tools and could not do the job. He didn't do the whole procedure and just attached more wood. He said he needed to take the whole sheet out where the damage area was if we wanted to do it. He didn’t look like an experienced guy because he shouldn’t try touching the sheet rock since it’s wet. But he kept on trying and that increased the size of the hole about one foot. He wanted me to replace the whole ceiling but that is not how sheet rock works. It's frustrating because I've waited all day that I thought he knew what he was doing.
I suggested to just leave it alone for two weeks. They have a special stand connected to the ceiling with the hose that should dry the whole wood so that it would not create molds. I saw it in my friend's house because they started to fix whatever they left in the ceilings and just dry it out and cut where it's damaged. It’s small pieces similar to a puzzle. He also said that my warranty only covered three feet by three feet and that he’ll contact the company and call me back. But he never did.
I called American Home Shield late Friday and was able to speak with Nicole. She told me she will call me to see how much it'd take to come out to fix the job. We can't shell the money out because I thought I have somebody else. Good thing our house didn't flood. But on all these houses in our area, the upper restroom is really a hassle for everybody. Every time there's problem in the upper restroom, it comes down automatically to the bottom. And there's no way to find out what the problem is unless we cut a hole down in order to see what's going on. My kids refuse to eat in the kitchen since that, so we have to eat in the living room right. The smell is really bad in the kitchen right now.
I’d like to have someone that would come to fix the two situations and I’m asking if AHS can give me some money so I can get somebody to fix it as soon as possible. I called yesterday and spoke with Debbie. She said she doesn't have any extra information about my case because they have missing pieces. It's really a messy situation because either company or that tech that came to us submitted the report for AHS. There's a miscommunication between the people who work on the weekend and the people who comes after the weekend. They never follow up to make sure they receive the report from the technician. I have to repeat the whole story which is very frustrating to do and then get no result. But they call me when they’d send people out to say when they are arriving which is really amazing. In general, I'm really satisfied with AHS as they handled the issue professionally. Hopefully, they’d resolve my issue really soon.

Since my shower has the lowest drain, all the water from the laundry went to the shower. It was a walk in shower but I opened the bathroom door to a small pool.
I went online to my American Home Shield account and filed a claim. I got a text confirming my claim within seconds then a couple of minutes later, they sent me the company's name. The next morning, around 8:00, the plumber called me and asked when I was available. I said “Right now," and he said he was on his way. He came and was all done within seconds. He asked some questions about the problem then he ran the snake and found the lint and hair and pulled all that stuff. He also told us to pour Drano down the drains every now and again to try to keep it from getting blocked again. Everything works well now and American Home Shield was great.

The AC was leaking and the tenants never called me. The pipe was clogged but they probably could have prevented it and I had to get my ceiling fixed after that because it’s frail. American Home Shield's customer service is not really good at all. They need to hire more people because it’s such a large company that you’d be holding on the phone all day long, and if you hang up, you lose your place in line. I don’t like that part of it and I found that it’s best to go online when submitting a claim. I love American Home Shield but they have you on the phone forever, and I really feel sorry for the people who can’t go online.
The contractor was an AC man and he was very nice, and I really like him. He had to come back the same day because we found out that the leak was still there. I thought it was a plumbing issue so they sent a plumber out. I had to leave work and meet the plumber for the timeframe of 9:00 to 3:00 so I told him to let me know 30 minutes ahead of time, which he did not. Also, he called me and told me that he was at the door and nobody was there, and if I couldn’t be there in five minutes, they’re going to charge me $75 and he would be leaving. And then, he also told me that it wasn’t a plumber’s job but an AC man’s. He tightened something up for the water, and then I got his side of the claim for it. He was there for a minute and left without doing anything. He was not courteous at all and I don’t want him to come to my house ever again.
The AC man came back and he stayed until he got the job done. So far, the AC has been going good and I haven’t had any complaints from the tenants. I highly recommend American Home Shield to everybody because it has saved me a lot of money. It would have cost me a whole lot of money to get the people out here to fix those pipes, but with AHS, all I had to pay was $125 deductible.

I've been with American Home Shield a long long time and they're acceptable for what I'm paying for. But I don't like the communication and them pushing the computer on me. I've got enough technology in my life and I don't need to do this on the computer. I'm very angry because everything has to be on the computer or electronically done. It's taking away people's job and I don't like talking to an inanimate piece of equipment. When submitting a claim, I don't like the way I have to go through loopholes. It's very difficult for me. I also wish they sent something stating that you no longer pay the person.
There is nothing outstanding about them. When I had a sewer problem and we called on Friday, they wouldn't send anybody out until Monday. With that kind of problem, I don't appreciate not getting somebody on the weekend. And that happened to me twice. This last time I called for help, they said they'd call me back but they never did. I didn't appreciate that at all. I lost about four days and I was really irritated with them. And I'm still having trouble with the dryer. It's not drying my clothes as it should. I'm going to try it one more time and if it doesn't dry in that whole hour, those people have to be called back. The contractor was a very nice man though. He did what he was supposed to do.

I had an air conditioning system that was not functioning. Whenever I submit a claim over the phone to AHS, I have a wait time from the time that we submit it to the time that we get a call back from the vendor. The reps were cordial and helpful. The contractor AHS sent came out and found that it was our capacitor and had it repaired in about 20 minutes which was atypical. Most of the time, what we experience is they come out, they look at it and say they’re going to need to go get this part. In this case, I sent vendor data and everything else so that we could avoid that because they might have to replace that outside unit.
I also have realized that AHS has issues with contracts. When we’ve got a major issue and we talk about what they are going to do and I ask if I could get credits so that I can go purchase a new unit or a new item by myself, the credit that they give towards replacing a unit is far below than what it should be. That’s usually when AHS says, “We need to replace one.” And I say, “Well, I want a different type unit.” They say, “Well, here’s what we’re going to give.” I’m sitting there looking at the price of a water heater and it’s a third of what the value is that you can get through a normal vendor. Other than that, I’ve always told my sons and everybody that they need to have something like American Home Shield available to them because it’s just an insurance policy for themselves. I haven’t found another firm that is any different or better so I stuck with American Home Shield for a long time.

I had American Home Shield for years when I lived in Milpitas. When I moved to Gilroy, part of the purchase was a year's service with another company. When that expired, I went back to American Home Shield. I like it that American Home Shield lets me choose my 10 appliances. Plus, they're thorough. They respond to the need and are very efficient. I know exactly who is coming when and all of that. I had a plumber come out because there was no water pressure in my kitchen faucet. He was able fix it. He was great and was on time. He did everything for me very quickly, smoothly, and I had no problems since. Another guy came out for the garbage disposal and he was good, too. The reps at American Home Shield are fairly quick ad I've been happy with the experience.

I've been with AHS for one year and four months now. When I called them, their rep answered my request for service and I told him what was the matter. Then the person checked everything the first time he came to repair the AC and saw what the problem was. Two days later, he came in to fix it and now, the AC is working good. I'm happy with AHS. I've had two opportunities to use them and in both times, they came fast and did a good job. So I know that their system works and I would recommend them to others.

The contractor for my heat pump was great. They were prompt and kept in touch. They made sure everything was working properly. They were experienced unlike some of those that American Home Shield sends out. They have one that they keep trying to get me to use every time I have a trouble with my heat pump, which is Guaranteed Services. I keep telling them, “Do not even offer them to me anymore.” That’s what I don’t like. I figured it would have been documented because I’ve asked them to document that I do not want to use Guaranteed Services anymore.
The heat pump still sometimes takes a while to perform like I want it to but it’s nothing like it was broken. It has lasted longer than anybody that’s come out to repair and I’m praying that it keeps doing that. However, American Home Shield should work on the time that somebody has to wait on the phone to get somebody to answer. Once you get through, they seem to be cooperative, but a lot of times it takes a while to get through by phone. I’ve waited 45 minutes to an hour before. Sometimes I just hung up and try to call back. Also, they wait too long to replace an item because when people have to be called back for the same item to repair again and again, it would benefit not just themselves but the customer in replacing that item altogether.

This was the second time that American Home Shield has really disappointed me and it was horrible. The compressor in my air conditioner went out and it was a nightmare getting this resolution done. It took forever for them to get someone out here. When we finally got a contractor, he didn't know what he was doing. He said it was an electrical issue. My son-in-law works on air-conditioners and he knew it’s the compressor. The tech took apart something in the air-conditioner and just left it on top of the unit. Then, it took weeks before we finally got the order. The order came in and it was incorrect. So, we had to wait another week for the right piece to come in. The tech came back in and then said, “Okay, it's the compressor." And then we had to wait another three weeks to get a new compressor, so we were without air-conditioning for weeks.
The contractors were horrible and very unprofessional too. Getting in contact with them was ridiculous. They did not return calls nor answer their phones. It was like nobody was ever available. I spoke to a couple of American Home Shield agents and I told them they should never use that company, Air Force One, because their employees and office personnel are very unprofessional. Towards the end though, there were a couple of young ladies who were very helpful and very nice. I also went round and round with American Home Shield and they would not give me any kind of assistance to get this issue forward and resolved. It was one excuse after the other. One excuse was that they could not make contact with Air Force themselves. I must have spoken to at least six associates there. American Home Shield should find better contractors. I also had a contractor for a couple of fan repairs and that took over a month to get resolved.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

I saw a leak outside so I called American Home Shield. It was difficult so I went online and it was easy. I canceled my initial call set up because I didn’t get a confirmation on what it was. When I said the problem was a drain for the shower, it automatically went to clogged drain. I didn’t know that until the very end when they gave me the summary so I went online and corrected it. I tried to go to customer support but there was over an hour of wait so I waited for about 15 minutes before I went online. Nevertheless, AHS was helpful and they sent out a contractor who was great. I'd recommend AHS but they need to improve their support on the phone.

There was no hot water in all the showers. They were not on for a while since the house was vacant for a month and there was no water coming out, cold and hot. I called AHS and had to pay $75 for the service. The contractor got it fixed that day. However, I thought it was free since I’m paying the premium but they said no. It didn’t make sense then. The contractor that came was okay but I felt a bit uneasy when he told me that he’s going to do it but not to tell them. I asked him why and how much I would have to pay him. He told me not to say anything. I don’t like this kind of people and I don’t want to work with people hiding something and taking advantage of homeowners just because we’re new in Vegas. I was advised when I was talking to the lender, that I don’t have to get the home warranty. I can cancel that only after one year since it has already been paid for one year. But we’ll see, maybe that was just the contractor. The showers are working now.

American Home Shield has been out several times because we just moved into this home and there were lots of things wrong with it. The last time they came out, we had a major leak from a drain in our kitchen down into our basement which has rooms and carpeting. The first contractor came out and cut a little hole in the area where it was leaking and they told us that they wouldn’t handle it because it was a rodent damage and that it’s the homeowner’s claim. We didn’t turn the water and it’s still leaking. They told us not to use the kitchen for a week until they can come and fix the leak.
We called another plumber that wasn’t American Home Shield. They came out immediately and fixed it. The cost was almost $500. They opened the wall, took the pipe out and found no rodent or any droppings anywhere. They said it was a failure of the pipe and the glue. We asked the first contractor to come out and look at the pipe because they had put that on the report. Our homeowner’s claim which we eventually had to have wouldn’t cover the damages on the carpet, wall, drywall if it was caused by a rodent. So we had to prove that it wasn’t. So, they came out again after everything was open and said, “Oh, no, it wasn’t a rodent. Sorry about that,” and wrote that in the report.
I'm trying to get American Home Shield now to cover that $500 that we paid the other plumber which I haven’t heard from them. I emailed them again this morning asking what is going on with this. We've only been here two months and we’ve called AHS six times. It takes at least an hour and a half to get on the phone or sometimes I’d be waiting for 45 minutes then the phone goes dead all of a sudden and I need to start all over again. But for them to call, they have to call in a report and it’s ridiculous.
We're going to cancel AHS when we can but we're trying to get the refund back first. I'm very reluctant to call them and I do not want that first company to come out. We also have a Bosch oven where the hinges were broken on the door when we moved here. We called the expert on Bosch and he said he would come out. We waited two weeks but he never showed up. We called him again and he said he couldn’t fix it. So, we called AHS again and they finally sent somebody else who told us that the Bosch oven was horrible and that we shouldn’t even have it but he fixed it and it's been working. We also had another leak causing carpet damage but they came out right away. They were good both times.
We just moved here from California and we've had Fidelity National Home Warranty there for years and had none of this experience. We had good luck with Fidelity and I never had to wait to make an appointment in there. Sometimes they usually call me immediately and if they didn’t, I had their number so I could call them and arranged it. I would never ever recommend American Home Shield and would never use them again because of my experience. They need to work on their system. The waiting period alone will discourage anybody. $500 a year for the policy is not cheap and their copay amount is a lot more than we were paying too. We paid $75 and I pay a tax on top of it in Washington State unlike in California that my copay is $55 or $60 which I wouldn’t even mind paying that if I didn’t have to be treated like a third class citizen.

I've been with AHS since May 31st of this year and I've had three claims with them. The first claim was settled fine. The second claim was for a new hot water heater. The third claim was for some furnace repairs. It's the second claim regarding the hot water heater where I've had trouble with them. I elected to take the buyout on the water heater. I had a supplier here in town that had done work for me before in our prior home and they were quite a reputable company.
Apparently, once I elected to take the buyout, they were supposed to send me information to my address regarding the procedure. The procedure is that I have to send the copy of the invoice after the work has been performed to verify that the job was done. Two weeks went by, I heard nothing. So, I called and found out that the realtor who sold this house had put the seller’s name in as the buyer in the AHS form. So, I re-contacted the real estate company. I told them to get this thing changed immediately and to call me back when it's done. They never called me back but it was changed.
So, I went ahead and got an invoice from the company, Waldrop Plumbing, Heating and Air and they sent it right over to me. I had them write the project number on the invoice so it would link to AHS’ records. I sent it in and attached the copy to the email. I heard nothing for two weeks. I called again and found out that they had received my email but they did not receive the attachment to my email. So, I took the invoice, attached the copy again and inserted the copy into the email so if it doesn’t get attached, it's in the email. They can read it in the email and can download the attachment. After doing that, I still heard nothing from them. Finally, last week, I called AHS again. I got a hold of a lovely girl who did some begging for me. She found out that there had been a check cut on the 29th of August but it was not mailed because they did not have the invoice from the people who performed the work. So now, it is not done yet.
However, on September 19th, they allegedly released the check as payment to me. Here we are in October and the girl I talked to last week was filling me in on this and said that she's been to the cashier’s department and they're going to do a search on the check. Depending on what the search finds out, then they'll mail me the check.
I called yesterday and got a hold of a girl who told me that if the cashier's department got the notice to do the check search last week, then they won't have an answer for me until Friday. And since they have my phone number and email address, they would contact me. She also added that they would write me a letter and God knows how long that would take. I told her that was interesting since they’ve had several opportunities to contact me and they haven’t done it right yet.The girl I talked to was kind enough to give me her phone number and her 10 digit number within the system. She then said that if I don’t hear anything by Friday, I can call her directly. I told her that was fine and thanked her. I told her that if they have a suggestion system at AHS, they should put in a suggestion that if they're receiving emails from customers, then they should respond and let the customer know that they got the email. It’s something simple like that.
The people at the front are getting the runaround too. When I call and they would say that they’ve got to check with the cashier department, I go on hold and they're talking to somebody in the background. The first time they did that, I got cut off. My phone was totally disconnected from AHS while I was waiting. She was trying to transfer me to the cashier’s department to talk to somebody, but it didn’t matter. I told her that we'll see what happens. And two weeks later, nothing is happening.
This is a $530 change check that I've been waiting for almost two months. In retrospect, the people that I talked to after 45 minutes of waiting had been very gracious and have shown concern about my problem. They were great and have been trained very well. However, I don’t like the way the company operates internally and it's the people in the background that don’t know what they're doing. So I'm terribly upset. I wondered if I wanted to extend the warranty with them or not and spend money to do that. The next check is on my ticket and that’s in May of next year. I manage large corporation and I also run a little small business now that I'm retired, but the customer comes first and we'd create any kind of way to keep the communication lines open with the customer. It doesn’t work that way if they have a problem with their internal procedures.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced to have your water heater repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.
Thank you,

I've been paying American Home Shield for many years and this was only the third time I had to use them. My refrigerator was broken. I went online to try to chat with someone, but I had trouble with the online thing, so I called. They sent out one person and he told me that my freezer was fine and left. My freezer broke the next day and I lost everything. He wouldn't answer American Home Shield's calls and my calls.
My complaint and frustration with American Home Shield was that every single time I had to call them – and it was me calling them, not them checking on me – I spent an hour and 10 minutes average on hold. I asked the lady, “Is there any way we can do this quicker because it's very difficult and I've had to call like eight times in a month?” She said, “Nope. It's always going to be like that.” The last call, I asked, “Do you guys not have supervisors? Is there something I'm missing?” She goes, “We do. We can have them call you back.” I go, “Well, I've asked so many times. Nobody calls me back.” It was disappointing. I expected better service than that. The lady told me that a supervisor will call me, but no one did. I asked for a supervisor as I told them four times and was never given one. I was talked over so that I couldn’t get to them.
They could have put a little more effort into escalating things. I work in the medical field. We do have protocols, but there are still things that you also escalate when there's a problem. I didn’t feel I got any of that with American Home Shield. Nobody cared that my fridge was broken. Only one lady tried. She called me back on a weekend and she said, “I don't know what to do. They're not answering my calls.” And I don’t disbelieve her. They don’t answer calls. I tried many times and left messages but I got no response. Two and a half weeks later, this man called me back and said he got the part, but I told him we were done.
But one lady was really nice. She told me I had a lot of medicines, so they could give me $125 for the small fridge to hold my medicine, but that didn't do anything for all the food that I lost. GE finally came and fixed my fridge but it was five weeks later. I called them on August 27th and my refrigerator was fixed on October 4th. It was not a good experience. The only good thing out of all this is that I save money. I'm sure it was expensive for this man to come. It's great that you can pay the money and they fix things, but is it the best insurance? No. Based on my situation, they lost five customers who were about to join them.

Last Friday at about 5 o’clock, I noticed the air conditioning was not going on. So, I called American Home Shield that night and got an automated machine. They set me up with the person who ended up coming out on Monday. I told them I wanted to get someone else because we weren’t sure if they had a ladder, but I was told that once the automated system assigned someone, it could not be changed. On Monday morning, I called the air conditioning people and it was a total delight to work with them. They set someone up between 11AM and 1PM, and the person came at around 1PM. Fortunately, my neighbor has a spiral staircase leading to the rooftop, so we used her rooftop deck. We jumped over it several times. Everything was taken care of and the air conditioning has been excellent ever since.
However, in the past, it has been nothing but a nightmare with American Home Shield. In 2006, I had a Trane air conditioning unit on the roof that had to be repaired. I said, “There’s a Trane up there. I want it replaced with one.” They said, “Absolutely not. We’ll replace it with something comparable.” I have an all-electric building, but they delivered a gas-powered air conditioning. They had to send the Trane away and we scheduled it. And we ended up putting a Trane electrical unit on top of the roof.
Then I had a solid brass chandelier in my dining room that went out. They replaced it with a brass-sprayed finished chandelier which was nothing like what I had. What I had was several thousand dollars and the one that they replaced was bought at Lowe’s and it cost about $98. It was nothing comparable to what I had. I also had a hot water heater that should’ve been replaced. I called them up and I told them it was not working, so they sent two different people over and they said it was because of water pressure. I said, “No. The hot water is not working.” I was told it’s not covered under the warranty because it was water pressure. So, I had the hot water unit replaced by a different company.
I also had an issue with the dishwasher where American Home Shield had someone come here 15 times before they decided they were going to replace it. They kept on telling me it was the dishwashing detergent that I used. I was very dissatisfied with this company. I would not recommend it to a friend unless they want a fight with them. The only reason why I keep American Home Shield is because of the air conditioning and heating unit.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experiences in getting your AC system, dishwasher, and chandelier lighting repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.

American Home Shield always sends out good people. I got our air conditioner fixed more than once. There was a freon leak and I paid a lot of money for freon twice. The vendor didn’t fix the problem the first time, but they came back within two weeks, found the root cause of the problem, re-fixed it and stood by their work. But this time they were very responsive and the contractors came out the same day that I called the claim in. It was totally unusual and it was great. I asked to speak with a higher level staff person to get a better understanding.
My renewed contract DOES NOT discuss buyout under Water Heater. AHS said they'll pay $712 for the diagnose, replacement, and install and the remaining costs are on us. WHAT??? So why does the contract read ALL COMPONENTS AND PARTS, INCLUDING TANKLESS WATER HEATERS AND CIRCULATING PUMPS. This is not the outcome I am expecting. I had American Home Shield (AHS) coverage for several years and recently my GE refrigerator broke after 12 years of service. Besides the long waits on the phone to talk to claims rep and then scheduling delays with a tech to assess repairs and approve replacement, it took 8 weeks of living without a refrigerator. When claim was finally approved, the replacement cost was only 60% of a comparable refrigerator. I had to buy a new refrigerator out of my own money or wait for another 2 weeks for the check to arrive. This I can live with but then a year later I sold my home and all appliances along with it.
I called AHS to have coverage service suspended since I no longer owned the home and the appliances. Then I started new rental AHS coverage on the new home in another city. A few weeks later to my surprise the bill arrived and AHS assessed me a "cancellation fee" for the first policy equal to an additional month of premium even though I started new rental coverage!! I then cancelled the new rental AHS coverage. AHS customers retention representatives were firm on the cancellation fee and will not reverse.

All the AHS contractors have been very well except for the one I had early on that I didn’t like. When I filed a claim for my air conditioner recently, I requested to have a different company to come and look at it and AHS did that. I had a satisfactory communication with their reps over the phone too. AHS responds quickly and the claim gets set up fast. But it seems to me that even if the contractor can come in and fix something, sometimes they don’t get to fix it completely. I'm trying to get AC service with American Home Shield. I submitted the claim online and the process was easy. However, I still haven't gotten my central AC fixed yet because the company that came out, they were just trying to overprice things, the part that I had to pay for. So, I asked for a second quote. And I'm in the process of doing that now. American Home Shield could on improve on the amount that they pay for the service because now I'm trying to find a contractor on my own, and is not willing to pay for the extra service.

I had air conditioner problems and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. I was at work and I tried to submit the claim online but my computer had a lot of firewall and virus protection and I didn’t get any phone call or notification that I submitted a claim. I logged in on my phone and it didn’t show that I had a pending claim either. I called American Home Shield and ended up taking care of the issue. The rep on the phone was great and courteous and the contractor that was sent out was awesome. I had a problem a year ago and the same young man came to my house. He remembered me, my previous problem and what we talked about. I couldn’t ask for better service than what the guy gave me. Since the repair, the air conditioner cools and works fine. American Home Shield is wonderful and I recommend their service to all kinds of people all the time.

I have had two claims with AHS. The first one went really smooth -- it was a plumbing stoppage at the new condo that I bought. The vendor was really good, and he was on time and everything worked perfectly. The second claim was about the smell of gas on the stove. It was also baking off all of the oil and stuff that was in it. It is a new one, and it turned out good because it was not gas. There was just a glitch on that stove, so I had to call the vendor to find out when they were coming. When the tech got there, he was excellent, so it was not a horrible thing. Submitting a claim online was very easy, and it is much better than it used to be. Years ago, you would have to call. And they would take a while to get the appointment scheduled. With American Home Shield, you just click on it, tell them what you want and they send you a vendor. I got contacted by a vendor within 30 minutes and I was really impressed with it. It was an efficient process and it is a lot more responsive.

We recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield for an appliance service. It was easy to do it online but trying to contact them on the phone was extremely difficult. And I was on the phone for a combined two hours. So, it would be great if they’d improve the phone service and an option to chat online would be better. The contractor gave a very positive service, and he was prompt, friendly and extremely professional. He even put on booties when he walked inside. The items have worked fine since the repair.

I found an electrical problem (Sunday morning) and I called American Home Shield - waited 54 minutes for the phone to be answered. While on hold I called the number to purchase/renew a policy and the call was answered on the first ring! I asked to speak to a lead/supervisor/manager and was told 'nobody available' but will get someone to call back within 72 hours. After getting to speak to an agent (with an attitude), they could not get me anybody today and I would have to wait until Monday.
American Home Shield - you need to understand what service means. I manage a condo complex in another state (multiple units) and emergency repairs can be done 24 hours a day - just depends what you are paying your vendors! I will have to reconsider renewing this policy because during the week I can shop around for a better price so why would I pay you $500+ and year plus a call-out service fee and be treated so poorly!

When I first moved in a couple of months ago, I filed my first claim with American Home Shield for my fridge that wouldn’t stay shut. The service tech who came out said that it’s cosmetic and he couldn’t fix it. He told me to replace the fridge and didn’t fix anything. Still, American Home Shield took my $75. Then, the last time I had submitted a claim was for a plumbing issue. I had a dislodged backup. I filed a claim online, but I ended up calling because it was going to be about five days before the service tech would be able to come out. I didn’t like that I had to talk to somebody, but the lady on the phone was very helpful. She switched to a different contract company which was Altstadt Plumbing and they were very good. It turned out to be more than just a plumbing issue, so I still have problems with it and I’m filing a claim with my homeowner's insurance. Nevertheless, I’m happy with American Home Shield.

With American Home Shield it's a lot of waiting. When I'm trying to get information everything was like a line. When I signed up online and I called it was 30 minutes before I got somebody on the line. Also everything that they want you to do is online and I’m not an online guy. I want to talk to somebody. I also don't think that AHS' service was what I wanted. They told me how much they would give me towards my claim and I figured that if I'm paying a certain amount of money a month it adds up to a lot a year. When I submit a claim they told me that they’re only going to pay $400, which is not really worth it to me.
Once my air-conditioning was leaking and I was worrying that the whole system’s got all rusted. It was also dripping on the blowhole of the motor that helps blow the hot air and the cold air to the house. I then got a contractor and I paid them $75. They told me what was wrong and what they could do to fix it. However it came all the way around because they didn't tell me that they'd be changing the Freon from 22 to 14. A pound of Freon is $100 and it’s usually five pounds for the system so there’s another $500. A new system would have cost me $3,000 and AHS could have placed that system.

It still cost me thousands but they replaced the heater portion free of charge. I submitted the claim both online and through the phone and it involved a dozen calls. Before the air conditioner, I went through this with the stove as well. Every instance I’ve had with them is terrible. Right now, I’m filling out a pile of paper to take them to small claims to recoup. The air conditioning was out for weeks and we had to take a hotel room and a whole bunch of interesting things. But the technician was great and he got it all taken care of. The repair was flawless and American Home Shield released the parts and in less than a day, it went in. They had three people here, it’s fantastic.

We had a leak coming through and I found out it was the coil for the AC unit. We had American Home Shield send somebody out six weeks ago and the company that was sent out kind of did a temporary fix. It was just water in my drip pan before but they caused it to leak into my ceiling and actually made it worse. So, then I had a plumbing issue and I called the plumber. But American Home Shield said the problem was the AC so they sent a different AC company. They came out, fixed everything and replaced it yesterday. They did a good job and I'm happy with that, but I still need someone to fix the drywall on the ceiling that the first AC company caused. The coordinator called me last week to set up what the cost is going to be above what they covered. They said they're going to work on and see what they can do on the drywall, but I haven't heard back from them yet. Everything else is looking good, so far.

So, I called AHS back and they set up the service with a different provider and got the issue resolved months later. On the other hand, my property manager mostly calls AHS to submit a claim and normally, she's on the phone for 20 minutes just to get a person. She complained about it several times but once she got them on the line, it was easy from there. She told them what the problem was, then they would tell her who they were going to send out and a representative from that company would contact her.

I’ve got more than one policy with American Home Shield. I’ve got one in California, a personal address, and I have them on rental properties in Texas also. Submitting a claim is faster online. You can get in touch with their reps. But it’s normally slow and the wait is longer but the contractor that they send has been great on average, and after the repairs, the appliances work as normal. I’ve owned the same appliances in this house since 2005, so 12 years now. I’ve had both washers; some clothes washers as well as clothes dryers they tried to fix multiple times. It could be a different thing but they’ve kept them going as opposed to having to buy new appliances.
The monthly payment deductible is minuscule compared to the life of my appliances. Particularly, I missed my hot water heater when it went out. In my region in California, it’s very costly to replace a hot water heater. The cost of a home warranty for years is between $23 and $400 and you’ll just replace a hot water heater here with the five years of a home warranty if you have to replace it on your own. So, having American Home Shield warranty has been invaluable and cost saving. I’ve been happy with them.

My most recent claims with American Home Shield were for my washing machine and our central heat and air. The claim on the washing machine was really simple and it went very well. The technician who came out was professional. He checked it to see what was wrong about it. When he found out what was wrong, he placed the order while he was here. The part did not come in before the appointment but it worked out just fine because I needed to change the appointment date anyway. Then when we finally got it set up, it was about two weeks before he came out and finished the unit up. The problem was resolved and the washing machine is now running beautifully.
Out of the central heat and air, the heat went out and then I called American Home Shield and they sent a contractor that I had before. He was nice and very personable in a professional manner. He came but when he went up in our attic, he told me that he couldn't fix the unit since there's no safe access to it. They then got a safe platform so he could work on the unit and he fixed it fast. He knew we needed it and so he got it done in no time. The issue is not resolved yet since he still has things to do but he can do it now since it's safe enough for him to go up. AHS has qualified people to get the job done and I’m very satisfied with them.

Later on, I got a message in the mail from American Home Shield, saying that the payment was overdue. They said that I hadn't paid the service fee, but I wasn't told I needed to pay a service fee. I thought they would bill me, plus no one arranged to have me pay that before the technicians came out. Then the second one, the electrician came out. The service was prompt but ironing out the issue with the service fee made the experience unpleasant. I still haven’t heard back what happened with that. I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They sent a company that’s not telling the truth and it was a very bad experience. I submitted a claim for my air conditioner because it has a leak. Budget, the contractor, sent someone out and then it wasn't a couple of weeks after that I had them back. Their techs came here about three times and they had to put Freon in it every time. I couldn’t pay $80 for one gallon, and I asked the tech how often am I going to have the leak. But he said they didn't know.
Budget’s techs were very honest and nice, but they said that their company wasn’t going to replace the unit for me and that they’re supposed to only fix the issue. They also said, “If you're hoping to have something better, they'll put something not as good." And that’s what they did. They patched a hole and the Freon would go out again. They were also supposed to put a coil in, but adding to an old system won’t work. So then, I had to pay for that coil and Freon. Budget wouldn't even discuss it at all too. It seemed that they were not working properly and talking to the people who do the work. Although my air conditioner is old, it hasn’t had a lot of trouble and I love it because it was so quiet. However, it had to be new to get the warranty.
I had to hire another company because it was so hot in here and for two weeks, I was very sick. I am 83. My neighbor stepped in to help me and he got bids from Budget too, but Budget was not finished with the air conditioner yet. They have to put something on it. Since I have another air conditioner on one floor, my neighbor put fans so the cool air would be sent up. That made me feel better. When I reached out to AHS, they just said, "Well, this isn't fixed, we'll call Budget." And then I called Budget and Budget said that’s what they would all do. My daughter told me that she’s going to call AHS and see what was going on. I didn’t want to deal with this anymore and I wouldn’t recommend AHS.

Earlier this year, in May, I had a problem with my AC on the outside that started leaking weeks ago. My husband called American Home Shield and they said they couldn't get a guy out for a longer time. Filing a claim on the phone was miserable and it took me so long. I kept trying to call, but every time I did, I was on hold for an hour and no one ever answered, so I hung up. So, I went to file the claim online and then, I was able to get service. I called and I was able to get a guy out the next day. But they ended up charging us for that service when my husband called. They never refunded the $75 and I was trying to get that back. I called about a couple of months ago and they said they’ll figure it out, and if we don't get a check, they'll have to submit something to that department. I never heard anything else about it but I had to pay another claim again for this one. They charged twice and it is exactly what went wrong.
The guy that came out to fix the AC was fine. The main guy, not the guy who actually came to fix it, was very rude when I called him from my job. He was irritated, and he didn’t know why they were giving out his cell phone number. It was weird, and so I'm like, "Well, there's been an inconvenience. And could you finally tell them, so they could give me another contractor? Because, right now, I have water outside my house and I need that fixed. So, I couldn't give a ** if I'm calling your cell phone or not!" That didn't work for him. He told me that he would be out there that afternoon or evening and that he would call me 15-20 minutes before they came out, but he never showed up. I called and left a message for him at 4:50, to find out that his voicemail said they closed at 5:00. It was a headache going through American Home Shield and it has really been hell working with them. The warranty benefits me, but after waiting a month to get AC, I was literally two seconds from paying somebody out of my pocket just to fix it.
That was just one trip with the AC within the past month and this did not include the $75 that was charged before. They sent a plumber to my house first before they sent the AC technician. The plumber got there only to say, "Well, you don't need me. You need an AC guy" so I had to wait again for an AC guy to come out. I had American Home Shield about five years ago at my other house in Oklahoma and they were great. The only thing I didn't like was they went up on the price and it kept going up annually so I switched to American Residential Warranty when I was there. Now that I’m in Florida which is a bigger area to serve, the customer service is awful. It could also be that the contractors are different, but it's not a good look at all. I would not recommend American Home Shield to anybody at all. This is the only time I've encountered so much headache on one issue.
I buy a warranty because I don't want a headache and I pay them to keep it down, but I still get a headache because of the guys at American Home Shield. Before, they were prompt, and I wasn't complaining too bad when I had my plumbing last time. With the AC, everything was worse. But they were able to call people so maybe it's the storm too, with all the hurricanes that came through here. That could be the reason why they're behind because, earlier this year, I got to them quickly. Now and especially the last month or so, trying to call them has been pure hell. To sum up my experience, in a couple of words, it's been awful. It's lack of communication and lack of promptness, and those are my two biggest things. I can deal with waiting if you communicate to me what I'm waiting for. But when no one knows something, that makes it a lot harder for someone to be patient.

I had a plumbing issue where a spout just popped off of the copper lines. The plumber said that somebody pulled out the spout but I told him that it popped off while I was in the shower. The guy didn’t want to do anything though and he said it was not a malfunction but was an extended home break. I argued that it was made by a human and it was going to break. In the end, I had to tell him to get off my property in an offensive way before I called the cops. He tried to get me to sign a couple of documents but I refused. I paid $75 dollars for nothing. I haven’t called American Home Shield about that yet though.
This was the third plumbing issue I had. I submitted the claims over the internet and their response time is usually 24 hours, but this last one was a different plumbing company and they didn't respond back for more than three days. I've been AHS for a year and they have been well prepared to deal with all kinds of issues and they go above and beyond. But they need to pick better repair companies to deal with. They should drop the last one I had, the company shouldn’t even be on their list.

I live in Raleigh, North Carolina and in the past, American Home Shield has sent plumbers from as far as 60 miles away to come and do the job. Then when they get out there, they don't have the right parts and they can't get back 'cause they're not scheduled to be in Raleigh for another three days. This has been my issue in the past several times. This last plumber came from Hillsboro, North Carolina and that's probably 35 or 40 miles out. That's my big issue and I thought about stopping Home Shield because of that problem but otherwise, performance has been okay.
There was a company out of Garner which isn't that far but they said they were coming at 6:00 in the evening and it was midnight by the time they got there. This was not even during a hurricane or freezing cold. They kept calling back to say they were running late but they would be here in an hour. But an hour later, I couldn't get a hold of them and they wouldn't call me back. I tried calling Home Shield but I got put on hold. Finally they asked if I wanted them to come the next day but I had taken off work to be able to get home and I didn't want to take another day off. That was a real inconvenience and nerve-wracking for me and I had to get to work the next day too but they were very pleasant and apologetic though.
Overall, I had an okay experience with Home Shield. However, sometimes the wait time is longer. When I submit a claim on the phone, which I generally do, it's all computerized and I can never get a real person. I tried to talk to somebody and say I want somebody within at least 20 miles of Raleigh, north. I've had technicians from Mebane and Zebulon, North Carolina. At one point I did talk to a person and they said they would note that on their contract. But when you use the computer, I'm sure the computer doesn't look in the contract and see I want somebody within Raleigh. I wish that they would give me the option to talk to a real person and something that I can get to quick.

He had spent time in Shepherd Center, and they had told him that if he ever breaks his back again or falls, that he would be paralyzed. We have vaulted ceilings, so they can’t walk over it and the vent is up there. So, when they left, the repair was not done because he was only able to do a small amount of work. But they were a great team that came out and I really like them. And they spent quite a bit of time out here. It was not his fault that he could not get up there and do it. It just so happens that it was on the roof. And that's not his fault. So, I'm not blaming him. American Home Shield has been awesome and everything is going wonderfully. I called on a Tuesday to get my air conditioner fixed and the contractor said it would take three days before they could come out. I proceeded to explain to them what the problem was and I didn't want to wait three days. The only way they can change it is I have to call and talk to AHS.
I had called American Home Shield before and it seems that it doesn't matter what's wrong with the customer or what the problem is. Anytime I call in an air conditioning problem or to have anything fixed, it's going to be three days unless I pay that a priority customer or whatever they call it that moves customers to the front of the line which costs an additional $100. It's a horrible policy for elderly people that are retired and has their policy. I'm 70 years old and I've had a rotator cuff surgery. I called back to AHS and I can't get a live person. And when I did get a live person, it had to be in sales, so I tried to tell them our situation and I wanted to talk to a live person at AHS to try to get something done.
They gave me another number and I called that, and phones were so loaded down that I have to go into the automated thing. I did that several times. There wasn't any way to get through to them because people would talk to somebody. And then, when I do get them they tell me that I've got to pay in another couple of hundred dollars to be treated like a regular customer that calls an air conditioning place to come and fix the air conditioner. That's a terrible business to me, but that's their policy. Fortunately, I had two air conditioners and I could go to the back bedroom. I couldn't sit in my bed and watch TV and the heat in the kitchen in the early morning when it gets into the heat of the day. I was dissatisfied with the service that I got of having to wait but once that I got the service, it was good.

Our washing machine was not draining well, so we asked for a repair from AHS. It took two weeks for the technician to find time to come and diagnose the problem, and another two weeks for them to get the part prior to coming here to fix the machine. I was not satisfied with the time it took for the machine to be repaired -- from the moment I submitted the claim to the time where I could use the washer again. I have children, so being without a washer for an entire month was a lot. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with the service. The technician was very polite, very knowledgeable and efficient. We knew ahead of time what the timeline was since he said that the part that malfunctioned will be ordered and it will have to come from California, so it will take a while. When the part came, he fixed the problem within 30 minutes. So, he was fast and clean as well.

I made a claim for my air conditioning with American Home Shield, and they did what we needed them to do. The customer service was above and beyond. Especially by the girl in the office. But my interaction with them over the phone was ridiculously long. It went for probably half an hour. But, I love the people they sent. They were very thorough, polite, and nice. The performance of my air conditioner was great since the repair. However, I would not recommend American Home Shield, not until they take care of whatever problem they seem to have. They need to hire people because they did not have enough. Nobody should have to call and then hang up and then call again and then call on a separate line just to get through. I'm close to cancelling them because of the wait. I'm going to look into another one because nothing should take that long.

I had an AC problem which had something to do with the tube. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online then I called to confirm to make sure I did it right. Both of my experiences online and over the phone were good. The guys they referred came, they were in and out in an hour and a half and were courteous. It took six days for the contractor to come from when I filed the claim, but it was hot and I had AC friends that couldn't make it, so I understand the time and need that it was handled long.

A while back my oven stopped working and I contacted Home Shield. They had a repairman come out within a couple of days. The repairman had to order a part, then I had to wait for two weeks for the part to arrive. It worked out okay in the end though. Once they got the part, they quickly installed it. They did a great job and I couldn't be happier.

I recently reviewed American Home Shield's customer service very negatively. After my review, I was contacted by AHS and was given first class treatment. They resolved my problem and followed up to make sure I was happy. I would give them five stars if they do something about reaching a person in customer service by phone without an hour wait. Once a person got on board, my issue was resolved.

I have been having problems with service providers being able to repair my washing machine since March of 2017. I have tried to contact a real person at AHS and get a ONE HOUR HOLD TIME. Outrageous!! I have no platform to express my dissatisfaction other than those surveys that get no response with from my negative comments. I may have to look for another insurance carrier and tell AHS to go jump in the lake!!!

After calling them they said the case is with the authorization department and it's been a week it is sitting there. Looks like AHS wants the money and not do any service. They are delaying the authorization so that the consumer just forgets about it.

I had an oven and a stovetop that wasn't working and submitting a claim with American Home Shield was easy. I did it online and it was user-friendly. However, the contractor that they sent took a lot of time. We scheduled a time, and when I tried to reschedule it, he told me he couldn't come that time. And then he didn’t even bother to call me back to let me know when he could come the next time. I had to call him back instead of him calling me. It took almost a whole month to finally get him to come. His work was quick and everything’s working great now, however, AHS should get better contractor service.

It's not been a good experience with American Home Shield. I submitted a claim for my AC over the phone and it was horrible. I waited three hours to speak with somebody. My mother has American Home Shield too and it's the same thing for her. I don't submit claims online because I need to talk to a live person to see what's covered and what's not, which you can't find out online. You need to speak to someone to make sure you're going about everything the correct way.
Also, when some of the vendors came out before, it was a little confusing. Sometimes they collect the payment and sometimes they say American Home Shield will collect the payment. I've never experienced that before. Prior to the last three months, I would always give it to the vendor. I had an issue with that because I gave a payment to the vendor for something in the past, and American Home Shield kept emailing me and calling me saying that I owed them the $75, when the $75 was paid to the vendor. AHS kept saying that I was delinquent. I kept getting calls and I kept having to call back in saying that I wasn't. I gave them the check number and told them the check had cleared. It kept going back and forth until they finally straightened it out.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for our heating unit. We had a cold spell and I turned on the heat one night and couldn’t get it to work. I tried several times but the automatic lighters wouldn’t light. When the contractor who was sent by American Home Shield came, he found that some fuses have been disconnected. When the previous repair was done to fix the AC, my son let the contractor in and he apparently put in a new motherboard but did not reattach all the wiring that would service the heating unit and that seemed to be the problem. Some of the wirings had to be reconnected. The contractor AHS sent was very professional, helpful and knowledgeable. We discussed what I had done and where we left it which all made sense to him. The experience was fine and we had no trouble.

Called about early afternoon on Wednesday. Hot water heater problem water all over garage. Thursday nothing. Friday at 5 o’clock they send a plumber out. Says, "You need new hot water heater!" Did he bring one. No not all. He will be back Tuesday or Wednesday. I had knee surgery recently and have chronic pain. I had to go Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday to health club to take a shower. Now they want you to wait four more days. I had to heat water up in microwave to wash dishes. Of course I can’t use dishwasher. Our house is just ten years old. And the Am/Pm plumbing day they need make modifications. I paid $100 service fee. They want $389 to install. Home Depot does everything for $399. So American Home Shield apparently doesn’t pay any amount to installed the hot water heater.
My last hot water heater Old republic I paid service fee and $50. Not sure what wasn’t covered. We have flexible wire but Am/pm requires they need all new. First thing someone should be sent out for five minutes Thursday to look at the problem and hot water heater should be in a truck. Waiting seven days for water heater is ridiculous. I am very upset with American Home Shield warranty. I don’t want Am/pm plumbing to come for service. Why pay for a warranty if you get ripped off with extra fees. Plus who wants wait a week to get hot water. Waiting 80 minutes then they hang up on you. I waited 30 minutes to 45 minutes already the other day. The home warranty may be good for some things but if they send out a company who wants additional fees what choice do you have???

I have had American Home Shield for years (around 8 years and approximately $5,000 not counting the copay about $75 per fix times about 6). It never fails when I call I am going to wait for 30 minutes. Very rude usually. Have tried to update my last name for several years due to misspelling. Good luck. Still not right. Cannot call during normal working hours because I work. Supposedly it’s a shorter wait.
I am currently looking for something else because “fixing” an issue should say we will put tape on your appliances if that “fixes” it. For example I have paid for an independent technician come out and check the issue after several “temp” fixes. The independent tech says it should be replaced due to several issues. I have provided that info to AHS... Finally fed up. Don’t get this company to deal with your problem. As I type this I am at 52 minutes and waiting to get a simple list of repairs. Yuck. You will regret it when you have to deal with this. Good luck. Not spending the time to get a receipt so it may show “not verified”. Not sure, first review I’ve done with Consumer Affairs, just see the option below as I update my wait time. I verify that I am disgusted right now.

The people that were sent by American Home Shield and installed the appliances or repaired them were great. I've installed new appliances and had a couple of repairs to my actual ovens and stove top. They're working okay. In a short period of time, I may have to change them up since I purchased an older home with older appliances. They were still in good functioning condition. However, we thought that the refrigerator was working but it froze everything solid within 24 hours.
The wait time for AHS is unreal which takes an hour and a half. They are terrible and they use the excuse of the hurricane. Their call center was in a hurricane territory and that I can understand but it didn't stop them from having me wait other times. I told their rep that there were no hurricanes one time and I waited an hour and 45 minutes to get through. That was just for one rep. Also, they're not knowledgeable enough and I was misguided to the wrong department which made me wait for another 35 minutes. I would like the wait time to be cut down considerably and some of their call center employees educated a little bit more about things that they provide so they know what department to direct me to and not wait for so long.
Overall, I'm very disappointed. I paid $595 for a year warranty on things in my house. They're using some of the technology but sometimes technology does not work and you have to call them back, so that takes another half a day. I've tried to see about filing a formal complaint with them and I've never once gotten a hold of anybody. I've done it three times and that's a waste of my time and on my warranty as well.

Over the years, the furnace has been the big issue with me. It was next to impossible to have it replaced and I was told this by several contractors. American Home Shield wanted to have it repaired again and again, even though the contractor recommended that it needed to be replaced. I also heard from the contractors that AHS doesn't necessarily replace a unit with what was recommended by the contractor. So, I did not use AHS to replace my furnace because they wanted it to be repaired again even though it had gone on fire.
My last claim with AHS had to do with the faucet in my tub. But they were trying to automate the process of claim submission and I didn't like that. I'd rather speak to a person than be directed by an automated system. The last few times I called, I pressed the button so that I could get to a human. The reps have always been very nice and not once in all the years that I've been with AHS has there been a rep that I didn't like. All my interactions with the contractors have been good, too, and the items were fine and worked beautifully after the repair. On another note, I also don't like the new feature where customers have to pay upfront and give credit card information prior to the service being performed.
Apart from these issues, they've always done what they said they could do. I like AHS except that I had to have the furnace replaced and I paid for that out-of-pocket. In addition, they charge almost $800 a year now, plus there's a $100 service fee that has to be paid each time. I've been a customer of AHS for four consecutive years, but at this point it might not be in my best interest to renew with them for the following year.

I have two properties with American Home Shield. My most recent claim with them was for AC's loose valve. Submitting the claim was easy, but they couldn't distinguish one property from another at first. But they got through that. They then set up an AC person to come to my house and it went well as it normally does. The technician who came told me that there was a leak in the unit somewhere and that he'd change the valve. He put something in there to check the leaks and told me that he needed to let AHS know to see if they cover putting the refrigerant back in.
When AHS called me the next day, they told me that they were paying $100 and I had to pay $700. I almost lost it. For them to tell me I owe $700 was mind-blowing. It made me want to drop them and wait for whatever goes wrong and I'd pay for it myself. If something you think that is covered is not covered and they hit you with a bill like that, it's ridiculous. I was very dissatisfied. Also, I didn’t like the way American Home Shield was explaining the process to me over the phone. It wasn’t cool, so I told them I didn’t have $700 for the Freon to be pumped out.
I was left with no AC for about a couple of weeks. Then finally, I had to get a credit card and use it to pay them. I then called American Home Shield and they gave me the company to call. I then called the company and paid $700. Then they came out and charged the unit up. Then the second technician, who was knowledgeable and understanding, found a leak on the valve where you put the hoses on. He had to put a request that he needed to repair the valve that the first technician should've found. Then he put me back again in a couple of days and came back out. He fixed the unit, charged it up, then it was okay.

American Home Shield provides good service. I filed a claim with them over the phone for water backing out in the basement. There was a root getting in the way of the main drain. I let the rep know what the issue was and then I got a call the next day to confirm. There was also an automated voicemail from the local contractor and another confirmation that came later that day.
The contractors were professional. I got a call half an hour ahead of time to let us know that they're coming. They seemed to know what they were doing and it took them less than an hour to fix the problem. They sent the snake down that main drain and get that cleared out, then ran a ton of water to make sure that the water won't get back up again. They did a good job. It was also brought to our attention that the area that was treated was not in the backyard, so we were given a quote in case there might be an issue in the future. And then I paid $70 deductible. However, I have noticed recently that the water is starting to back up again, though not as bad as it was before. I might be calling up again.

Once they have you under contract they forget you. Terrible service: Expect to spend over an hour on hold waiting to speak to one of their employees. I called six times on the most recent service call. Four times went over an hour on hold BEFORE they answered; the other two went over 30 minutes each. Then expect to talk with someone with all the interest and helpfulness as Eeyore. AHS couldn't schedule anyone to come to my house for two weeks, 8 work days. Then the contractor failed to show. No one called, no one came... Another couple of calls waiting on hold for over an hour waiting to talk to someone on each call. One of the AHS employees said that they would waive the $75 fee because of all issues/failures in repairing my washing machine, which AHS DID NOT waive. In all it was about a month before they repaired my washing machine.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a refrigerator which wasn't working anymore. I have moved it out of the kitchen because I've got two little kids and I had another fridge that I put in there. They denied my claim because the fridge wasn't in the kitchen physically, even though it was the fridge that I bought with the house which I showed them on pictures. I was frustrated about that. So I had to move everything around, put the fridge back in the kitchen to get the claim done.
The guy who came out was awesome. He said that the thing's clearly shot and the fix was going to be a lot more than it's worth. It was a GE Profile fridge and then they came back to replace it but offered to buy something a lot cheaper, not the type of fridge I had. So I went out and bought something on my own and they reimbursed me for part of it. I'm not going to use AHS again because I was in here thinking they'd cover the same type of product and they just said, "Hey, it's got just the same cubic feet so that's good enough for us." The cheapest GE Profile I could find was almost double what they offered to pay. Except for this price thing, the service was as expected and it didn't take too long, so it wasn't bad.

We recently cancelled our service contract with American Home Shield after a series of disappointing experiences. Our primary issue with this company is the incredibly poor customer service received. Over the course of the contract we always found that we had to wait on hold for over an hour to speak with a customer service agent. We recently called about an existing service request and again discovered that the wait time was over an hour.
We hung up and this time selected the option to purchase a new plan and the wait time was less than a minute. Why don't they provide that same level of response to existing customers? You can of course go online and request service and pay the service call fee but you cannot go online and contact customer service or cancel a request. There are no forms to contact them, no email address and no online chat options that we could find. If you need to contact customer service for some reason it's a wait time of over an hour and it's always the same delay - it was not an isolated experience.
After submitting the request for a plumber online for a service that was covered we received a prompt response from the company with the name of the company that was selected. Too bad the scheduled appointment by the plumber was SEVEN days later to fix a leak in the bathroom shut off valve and toilet. We would have shut off the valve to the toilet to stop that leak but that was also not working so we had a continuous leak that could not be stopped.
Because of the delay in response by the plumber and the continuous leak we tried to replace the float valve and cracked by accident cracked the porcelain toilet so American Home Warranty denied the claim because it was not normal wear and tear. If the plumber they selected would have been able to take a look at the leak within 24 hours of it being reported this would not have been an issue. When we tried to discuss this with American Home Warranty they stood by their decision so we stand by ours and cancelled the service agreement.
I'm not sure why a company owned by ServiceMaster has provided this level of service but it certainly was not expected and it has been a total disappointment. We trusted them and in the end that was a mistake. If you are thinking about a home warranty with any company read the entire contract first including the limitations and caps on what the company will pay and under what conditions and take a look at the methods available to contact customer service. We strongly suggest that you test them before you purchase a service agreement.

I built this house 20 years ago and when I first got it through my mortgage, I had American Home Shield for a little while. However, I didn’t need it because nothing was breaking down and it was a waste of money when everything was new. Now, I figured everything is getting older so I better go ahead and get something to cover some of the cost. I talked to one other warranty company and what they were offering wasn’t the same as what AHS did. American Home Shield seems to be the best so far. I should’ve gotten the warranty a little earlier but I was thinking that nothing was going to break down. Luckily, I got it at the time when I did get it.
I filed a claim for the air conditioner and they got somebody out within a couple of days. The technicians had to order a part so that took about two weeks. Luckily at that time, the weather wasn’t too bad and I had purchased a window air conditioner for my bedroom. The AC also kicked out a couple of times and we were talking about how the fuses and the air filter were too low for the air conditioner. Getting them back out there took a little longer than I wanted but they were out here today and now everything’s good. So far, American Home Shield is worth the payout and I had a good experience with them.

My dishwasher wasn’t cleaning and I’ve had American Home Shield send someone out three times on different occasions for it within the past year. I had problems prior to that with the dishwasher and I had to pay $80 each visit so, it was frustrating. Finally, they replaced it because they couldn’t find the model number anywhere. It takes a long time for them to replace anything. It took three weeks from the time I first put an issue to getting it replaced. I liked my old dishwasher but I had to upgrade it to get a little better since what they were offering was not.
I’m not happy with American Home Shield and I’m thinking of switching. They give you a hard time in everything. Whenever you have to make a phone call, it is delegated to people that are not informative of what to do. They usually answer quickly, but the vendors that they use are people that are on the lower end of experience. They charge too much a year and there are other companies that are much better and less expensive than that. If it's $80 a month or $2,000 a year, every visit is also $80 when someone comes out.
A lot of times, when the vendors come out, it's something so minor that costs $15. It makes me second guess whether I should even contact them for certain issues or just do it on my own because I have to pay $80 on top of the monthly with the contract. For example, I had something wrong with my garbage disposal. I pay $80 monthly and I also paid $80 to the vendor of American Home Shield. It was five minutes that he was in here, and it was not a big issue. He didn’t have to repair anything. He just had to tighten up something. I spent $160 and it’s not cost-effective for me to continue with them. Someplace, they'd only charge $45 for a visit. It's been a disappointing experience.
