We've had the American Home Shield policy at various times on various homes for years. We had a plumbing call recently at our second residence. My husband submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and the process was easy. However, we were not 100% satisfied with the outcome. The plumbers told us that we had too much water pressure, and we felt like the faucet needed to be replaced, it made a thumping noise, but they wouldn't replace it. So, we ended up just closing out the claim, but we had checked with our water department in the city of Waxahachie, and the water pressure was not an issue. So, we still feel like it just needs a new faucet.

In the beginning, we didn't have any water pressure coming out of the faucet, or it was low water pressure. And so, my husband got under the sink and tried to adjust the water valve underneath the sink, and then all of a sudden, I had no water at all. So, that was why we made the initial call. And then the plumbers came out, and they told us that we had issues with the faucet, that there was trash in their line of the faucet. They cleaned that out and then I had water pressure. But a day after they left, when you turn the faucet on, it'd go "Ka-plunk", and then all of a sudden it would make a "Wheee" sound, a really high pitch. And I actually got that on video, so I could show how it was doing.

I had four calls and I had them out there four times. They came out again, and this time they told me that the valve in the faucet was bad, that they needed a new valve. They came out and unscrewed the faucet and put a valve on the part where the water runs out. The faucet doesn't go "Wheee" sound anymore, but it has a pop when you turn it on. This was the fourth call, and one of the plumbers went out to check our water pressure at our line and they were claiming that we had way too much water pressure. And in order to fix that, it was going to cost $1007 which was just ridiculous. And so, we said, "No, we're not doing that". So, I just closed the claim out. I have water pressure now, but it still makes this plunking sound. I said I'll just deal with it but it's not fixed. I liked the plumbing company initially, they were responsive. This issue just turned into a huge headache. I wish American Home Shield would send a plumber and put a new faucet in my sink.

I tried to switch my heating over to the air conditioning. But when I tried to switch it over, I didn't have heat or cooling. It turned out to be the thermostat. I had forgotten that I got American Home Shield so I looked around myself in the area and found a place. Then I realized that maybe I should look through AHS's brochure and sure enough, the warranty covered it. When I called, AHS said they had to have their own people come in and so something was set up supposedly. They called me and I talked to those people. I waited another three weeks in a 100-degree weather without air conditioning. I finally called, about three times, and they finally got someone out here. It wasn't the best experience for that one.

On the other hand, the contractor was great. Once they got here, everything was straightened out. The person that came was extremely professional and had the thermostat fixed within 15 minutes. The thermostat I had, it was called a LUX Pro and he said that they've had nothing but problems with those. I got a basic thermostat that has a little computer where I can just switch it back to air conditioning, the heat, and nothing. So, it's simple for me. However, when AHS was dealing with them, there was some miscommunication going on. I finally got their number directly and talked to them. The contractor was here within two days and everything worked out great. When my contract expires I'm going to renew it.

Ice was collecting in the bottom of our refrigerator and it was leaking on the floor so I filed a claim online and we were sent a good guy. AHS has a very quick online service and as soon as we submit a report, somebody calls us right away. But AHS does not have good customer service. When I had some other problem with my microwave, I saw online that my microwave was not on my plan so I had to call them because I could not submit the claim online. I had to call two times and for both times, it was more than an hour wait time. Other than that, the person who came to help us was perfect and was nice.

We had problems with our air conditioning and somebody came out and checked it out. It took a little while to get them here, but we were having a hurricane at the same time so it was understandable. They texted me saying when they were going to come and they came within the allotted time. So it all worked out fine. The one we have on our residence is great. We had two experiences and the ones who came to our house were good. They were professional. But with the other house, I never got the end with American Home Shield. I’m being debited for $100 and I don't know what happened at the end if the washing machine and the dishwasher got fixed.

I signed up for American Home Shield online because when I call, I'm on hold for at least an hour and a half. There's a $75 copay each time they come out. I asked a rep and she had no idea what that was. She told me that her supervisor, Tamica, would call me back in 48 hours. I've been waiting for someone to call me back for five days now. The rep was very unprofessional and combative on the phone. When I asked her if there was no one out there to take my call, she said, "We are professionals, we're adults, we don't need supervisors". I asked her to make sure I was calling insurance so that her supervisor could listen to the call.

I have a rental property, so I've had a lot of calls to American Home Shield to come out and take a look at some things at my home and my rental property. My copay has been coming out of my account because I have to use my credit card. They're saying I haven't paid them but I have proof on my bank statements. It was a messy call.

Then, someone called me from American Home Shield stating the reason why I was denied but eventually, it got fixed by a certain company, so that's why I was confused. There were so many fine lines with American Home Shield. I've had both homes for 11 years and have been with AHS for 11 years as well. And I pay premium every month. But I'm really close to going to another company. I'm still very upset.

The people that were working on it were very good. They were on time, very friendly and informed me about everything. Everything was fixed in a good manner and our energy bill went back down and it’s nice to have the air conditioning when we need it. Our experience was pleasant and easy and we’re very happy with what American Home Shield did.

I recently had three services for my dishwasher, a refrigerator and the stove all at the same time. The filter in the refrigerator was changed, and the refrigerator sometimes makes a huge grinding noise. But the tech said that when we pile up the very top shelf, that’s why it makes that noise. Submitting the claim online was difficult. There was something asking the same situation again and again, and it was awkward. I called but it was already recorded in the system. That’s not in the customer’s best interest. American Home Shield should make their site user-friendly. I also didn’t have a good experience with Value Appliances. Because of them, I tackled Home Shield's service for a while and I didn’t reinstate, but Home Shield was able to fix it for me.

I just went to their website, filed the claim and they have somebody out there within three days. We originally had some problems with getting the problems solved. So, we talked with somebody from AHS directly and they've been great. It took a couple of visits before they got the problem right. I had a plumber come out, who was great. And I had a person from the appliance company come out but my wife said he was a bit slovenly. Other than that, they were very professional at doing the job. So far, the service has been great except the skepticism part. And we're not calling people out just because. It takes time out of our day. As far as having somebody respond, they do it within the day, typically. So, that's great.

The contractor who came is good and the AC has been perfect after the repair. The only issue I had was that it took 3 days for us to get someone to come and fix it. They got to come the next day because it's hot sleeping without AC at home when it’s summertime. I would understand for a washing machine or microwave, but the AC is so necessary and should be priority. The problems come maybe during the approval of the claim. Still, I’ve been getting a lot of people trying to sign up with American Home Shield.

We have three policies with American Home Shield for three rental rooms up in Reno, Nevada. The programs are under me and my son’s name. My son lives in Reno, so when we need to submit a claim, he would contact the renter, then me, and I would call AHS or go online to set it up. Then the renter or my son would be contacted to set up the time to do the work. I submitted a claim to have a kitchen faucet replaced on a Thursday, and it only took a couple of days max for them to make a contact back with me to get the process going. I figured that the weekend was coming up, so I called the renter and asked if they got a call from the plumbing company, and she replied that she hasn’t heard from them yet. So, I got a hold of the plumbing company by Monday morning, and they said that they’ve already contacted the renter, and they’ve set up the time to go do the work. The renters said that everything went well. The contractors came, took care of the issue, and the renters were really happy with what they did.

I've got an issue going on now that I'm trying to get situated with American Home Shield and I'm confused on how to go about this. A guy came in about a month ago and he did some plumbing work for me. All the toilets were needing repair so he came and did it. But one of the toilets had still the same problems occurring. Submitting the claim was okay. I called the 1-800 number and the person at American Home Shield set it up for me. The interaction with the rep was good and they contractor sent by American Home Shield was also okay.

However, the contractor needs to come back out and he's unaware now that the plumbing needs to be done so I got to call him and let him know. Maybe American Home Shield could also re-assess their rule of every time something goes wrong, you have to pay up $75 for different services. When you call them out and you've got a couple of things that are not right for you, they should be able to take care of that under that one $75 fee, instead of each. The electrical is $75, the plumbing is $75 and everything is separate. They could have a better system than that. Not everybody can afford that and it's just too much.

AHS sent a plumber out and he couldn't figure the issue out. He just left me in the dark of what's actually causing the leak. Some AHS contractors aren't really qualified. As far as AHS' customer service though, it's pretty good. I called in the claim for my garbage disposal. The contractor who came said the problem was wear and tear. However, he didn't really check anything. I told AHS' rep about it and they sent someone else to take a look. The second contractor checked and determined that it wasn't wear and tear. He ended up replacing it, which should have happened in the first place.

I've been using them for about seven years now. However, the price for the deductible keeps going up every year. They are a very good warranty company to work with, but, like any other company, they still have some flaws and things to work with as far as making sure they have the good contractors coming out to people's homes.

I am very disappointed in the way my issue has been handled. I called AHS on 11/6 to request service on my refrigerator which was not cooling. I talked with the contractor Advance Service Center on 11/7 who advised they could not come to my home until 11/9. The technician came on 11/9 and within 5 minutes advised me that my control board was bad and he would have to order one. Another tech came on 11/16. He replaced the board, but it did not resolve the problem. After trying everything he could do he advised me that he did not know what was wrong with the refrigerator and would have to get a senior technician to come out. I received a call later advising me that it would be Tuesday 11/21 before he could come. That’s 2 days before Thanksgiving. I called AHS to see if they could replace refrigerator so I would have cooling to unthaw turkey and ham I needed to cook on 11/22.

I spoke with William who advised me that they could not replace my refrigerator until the contractor submitted a request stating they could not repair the refrigerator and it needed to be replaced. There was no concern regarding me having no refrigerator to use to prepare for our Thanksgiving dinner. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he said there was no supervisor or anyone else there I could speak with. I have been a customer for many years. I always pay AHS on time. I feel that I should have received more consideration since a refrigerator is a necessity in my household every day not just because Thanksgiving was coming up, I do think more emphasis is needed when a customer is without an appliance like a refrigerator. I will rethink my future as a AHS customer.

I can select which system I'm having a problem with, though I cannot put in the exact issue I have. A text field where I can type in the description of my problem would be helpful for their technicians. But the techs have been very professional. They were early the previous time they came. Everything that they have repaired has been working as expected. I've submitted a claim for my heater just today. I've also submitted a claim for my dishwasher before, as well as for a plumbing problem. They had to fix dishwasher three times since we thought it was just one problem. We fixed it once, but then it was still leaking so we fixed that. I'm happy with my service and I will definitely recommend them.

It was hot in July and my AC wasn't working. It's a wall unit which I've had for three years. It's the one in the family room which cools majority of the two-bedroom condo. It's where everybody gathers, watches TV, and have dinner so it was the important one. I normally go by phone to submit a claim. They were always good and helpful but the only issue I have is that a lot of times, they're tied up and I would be on hold for 40 minutes. So, I put it on speaker phone, sit there and watch TV while waiting. But once I talk to a representative, everything's great. They always solve everything for me.

Somebody came out and took 10 days to submit the claim because they're backed up and busy. I called Home Shield asking what's going on and they said they can't tell what I had with what the guy wrote but they'd tell the company to send somebody more senior and somebody that does it all the time, which they did. They sent someone out the second time and then they came out the third time to do the actual replacement.

At first, I was a little frustrated. Then when the guy came and did it, they were wonderful and apologetic. They yanked the wall unit, put the new one in and were done in an hour. But the entire process took two months. So through the sweltering summer, I went without an air conditioning unit. I opened windows and got some breeze to come in. I also brought a fan in and had it blowing in nice, cool air. So, even without the AC, I made the best of it. However, it would be nice for somebody to come out the next day but I understand that the busiest time for the AC people is during the summer. In the end, it got fixed. I’m going to stick with AHS and keep my policy for next year 'cause I have a couple of other wall units which I hope won't go. And I'd definitely recommend them to a friend. But I suggest that they'd get more people so there won't be such a wait time.

I had a microwave issue, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Typically, it takes them a while to call back, so I like working on the phone because it expedites the contractors, and also because I can get a phone number and actually give the contractors a call. That way, I can make my appointments instead of waiting for them to call. The lady I talked to was attentive and didn’t need a lot of directions. When they sent the contractor, my daughter was at home, and she had nothing but very positive things to say. She doesn’t give out compliments easily, so the contractor was pretty good.

I’ve been with AHS for more than 10 years, and there was a time when the contractors they sent told me something that was not what I needed to hear, and were not as reputable. So, that was not good business. Also, the price has been raised in the last few years, so I think that someone that has been with them for a while could have some kind of plan where they lower the price for each year you’ve been with them.

I called American Home Shield when the fridge door wasn't shutting. The person who came out was awesome, a 100% triple A! We had to order whatever closes the door at the end and replace it. The same thing on the dishwasher -- it was running all the time because it was not going in and clicking. He had to order a part and replace that closing part, which took 10 days. Then, he had it all done within less than an hour at that time. And then, there was a complaint from the inspector that one of the burners didn't work and he was able to fix that right on the spot, so that’s the three things he fixed.

It took him an hour the first time he did the diagnosis and everything. And I asked him a question, I said, "I have another refrigerator that's not making ice. It doesn’t make any sense." So, he looked at it for me. It wasn’t part of it. He said, “I don’t know if that’s current." I said, "Probably not." He said, "Let's do this, this and this.” So, I did what he told me and that fixed it. He did that as a courtesy, which was really nice. He was quick, and he wanted to get the job done. I think he’s the one that owns the company. I look for quality and I can tell if somebody is BS. This guy was all business. The diagnosis, the treatment, it was just perfect. My experience with AHS has been perfectly awful. We just moved into the house two months ago and the stove broke down sometime after we moved in. We were trying to bake a pizza in the built-in oven, then the stove just shut down. It turned out that it wasn’t steaming properly. It's hard to eat and it’s becoming hard to do Thanksgiving. We attempted to activate the warranty. People came and did some parts that weren’t available. It went into this spiral of nobody getting back to us from AHS to where they’re trying to rebuild the parts. Plus, we’ve been told it could be upwards of three months before those parts are rebuilt.

We spent 40 minutes on hold to make the initial appointments and then three hours the other day trying to get some resolution. However, my wife was treated rudely by virtually everyone she encountered. There was one woman who was at least kind enough to tell my wife, "I've got to put you on hold or I’ll get back to you." Everybody that my wife ended up talking to was nothing short of rude.

The vendors that AHS hired to do the work has been great. They’ve really kept us in the loop. Plus, they can get through to the warranty company much easier than the we can. They told us there are three things wrong with the stove, but they can’t work on the other two things until the hinges get fixed. Even though it’s only a six-year old stove, for whatever reason, the hinges are no longer available.

We’re still waiting for a resolution on what they’re going to do. We keep getting told that we’re going to get called back. However, if it weren’t for the vendor calling and telling us things, we wouldn’t have heard anything from AHS. We got a hold of the local representative who has been very attentive and got somebody to call us.

They certainly have demonstrated customer service in terms of being apathetic in trying to help us, but they’re constrained by what the home office will let them do. In some cases, they’re only able to get the same information that we were getting from the appliance repair place. Tonight, we had a lengthy conversation with the local rep and he’s assured us that he’s going to do what he can and get back to us on Monday with some resolutions. Locally, the service has been really good. The call center is the place where we’ve had nothing but bad luck.

We also had an issue with the refrigerator. They sent out a different guy and he was great. The vendors that they get certainly are positive and are great to work with. He came out and resolved the situation with some parts. When the problem reoccurred, we called and they got a hold of him. He came back and ordered some more parts.

The family runs an independent convenience store and probably decided to go into the appliance repair business. They would not provide any licensing or permit from the state. After their third visit, I called AHS and told them they needed to get somebody else in here to fix my dishwasher. By then, it was already the end of August.

We're in the Fredericksburg area and they tried to send somebody else who had a DC number. I asked the contractor for their license number for Virginia but they refused to provide it to me. They told me that since they're just fixing a dishwasher, they didn't need to give it to me. I told them I wanted to make sure that they were permitted and that they knew what they were doing since they were going to our rental property and the family had young children. Since they refused, I called AHS back and I spent 90 minutes on hold before I got somebody. The third company they gave me was absolutely wonderful and they sent a technician out, found the problem and fixed it.

The unit was a Samsung and their dishwashers are not as good as some of their other appliances. After the tech's third visit and repairing a couple of things, AHS said that the dishwasher needed to be replaced. I could either choose from a little GE list they sent me or they would give me $742 to get what I wanted. Using the $742, we paid for a Bosch. It's now November 10th and the replacement was just installed yesterday.

The wait times have been an issue with AHS. The last couple of times I called weren't as bad and I had to wait for only 10 minutes. But a month, when I was trying to follow up, one call took me 95 minutes before I was able to talk to their CSR. We have two contracts with AHS, one with a property that we rent out and the other with the home we own and occupy. We were at the point of saying, "forget it" and switch companies. But AHS redeemed themselves with by getting a decent company to do the repair.

We started with them in 2010 and never had any problems with them. Then we moved a couple of years ago and we re-established services with them this year. It was then that we found that they really seem to have gone downhill, especially when trying to contact customer service. If you can get what you needed to be done through the automated system, that's all well and good, but if you actually need to talk to a CSR, you're going to have to wait and wait. But, once you talk to somebody, they get things done.

I've been with American Home Shield since the end of May. I recently had two back-to-back claims within a couple of days of each other. One was for a plumber and the other was for HVAC. For the plumber, I had a leak. Aside from that, there were a few other things around the house, like the chains on the toilet kept popping off. I also had water that would spray out from the faucet in my kitchen sink. The tech fixed it, but even now from time to time, water will still spray outside of the faucet. My partner has also been noticing it, so I’m going to give them a call before the 30 days are up. For the HVAC, the issue was that the air downstairs wasn’t working. We dropped the temperature a little bit, then we started smelling a burnt smell so we turned everything off. But the HVAC guys came out and they were very quick. Within an hour they discovered the issue and resolved it.

I didn’t have any issues with either of the two crews. The plumber came out by himself and for the HVAC, there were two guys. Both crews were nice, courteous and knowledgeable. The plumber got back to me within the same day. Someone called and scheduled an appointment with me. With the HVAC, I did it over the weekend, but Monday morning someone was on the case. It was very easy for me to schedule the appointment, ‘cause I didn’t have to take time away from my day or my schoolwork to sit on the phone and wait with anyone. I love the fact that I could just log on and set up everything from there.

I had a water heater that went out so I called American Home Shield and they sent out Plumb Genius to fix it. I was satisfied that it was fixed, but I was not overly impressed with the service guys. The plumber came over and went right to the garage, started working on stuff, left, came back, knocked on my door and said, "Okay, ma'am. If you'll just give me 5 stars, and I'll be on my way. I appreciate it." And I was like, "Are you not going to tell me what was going on?" He assumed that I didn't care. I would appreciate somebody telling me what's going on with my house. Nonetheless, he did a great job. He got it fixed in a timely manner. Submitting a claim was perfect. That was really easy and very seamless. I called up to check the claim and their rep was really nice. So, I was impressed with AHS but not the company they had sent out.

My dishwasher wasn't going through the cycle properly and it kept on running and running. I called American Home Shield and got a great representative. They sent over a technician and he was awesome. He said that the control panel was messed up and a new one was needed. My unit and kitchen are white and AHS couldn't find a control panel in that color. They found one in black, but I didn't want it so they offered to give me the amount for the part in lieu of repairing it. They paid for about a third of the new dishwasher that I purchased. We had to pay $119 for installation though because AHS wouldn't pay for that.

One time I called, they said that they didn't have any people available and to call back at a different time then hung up on me. When I finally called back, I had to wait 20 minutes and I finally got somebody. They said not to call on Mondays and Fridays. AHS needs more people on their telephones since customer service is very important. Everything is not hunky-dory there. They want everybody to do it through the internet but old people, like myself, don't do that. I don't feel comfortable going online. AHS needs to accommodate older people better. Other than that I've been with AHS for four months now and they have been great. I'm very satisfied and I would recommend them to a friend.

We’ve had American Home Shield out so many time since we bought our house. We’ve had various things repaired, and every time they came, they were wonderful. We either call or go online to request a service person, and then we get an email almost right away that somebody’s going to be contacting us within a short period of time, which they do. They would call us back, and then we’d tell them what’s up. They would then send the applicable service person out, and we have had some very good ones. For our claims on our current house, everybody has been really good. The electrician was fantastic, and the plumber, as well as the guy who came to fix my stove was good. We’ve been very impressed and I kept their business cards in case I need an electrician and didn’t want to go through American Home Shield for some reason, or if I just want someone to come out and do something that my policy doesn’t cover.

On the other hand, in my other house, which I just sold, I was not as pleased as I am now. I had an issue with my air conditioning, so I had my old air conditioning guy come out first because I didn’t realize that I also had American Home Shield then. He told me that I had a leak in my compressor, and that it’ll be expensive. He said that I could get through probably a little while longer, but will eventually need a new unit. So, I asked him how much it would cost, and that I had this thing called American Home Shield. So, he told me that I should call them because it will save me a lot of money. So, I didn’t have him do the work, but asked him to leave a note on all the information on what he found to be the problem was, which he did.

The guy from AHS came as week later, and I told him that we already had somebody and had him write down what he found on an invoice, but the AHS guy replied that he didn’t see anything wrong, and he’ll just give us some Freon. He said that he didn’t diagnose the hole in the compressor, and that he couldn’t take the other guy’s work because the other guy was somebody we had besides him.

The first guy that I had come out could have made a lot of money off of me, but he chose to be honest and told me to call AHS. And he was a reputable person from a professional company, so I know that there was something wrong with the air conditioner, but the AHS guy said that he couldn’t do that work on our AC because he didn’t do the diagnosis. He just blew me off even if I had proof in writing, from a very reputable company, of what was wrong with our air conditioning unit. But I paid him $75, and that kind of annoyed me. But, it’s all said and done now, and it’s over with. I did wind up taking a contract with Total Air and Heat who’s an amazing company and they replaced my air conditioning system when the time came and I trust them.

I’ve only used American Home Shield twice but I found it to be extremely easy. The only issue I have is it’s so hard getting in touch with them. One has to hang on the phone for 35 minutes, if not longer. Now, they have a set up on the internet where one can make a claim, which is fine, but it’s hard to describe what the problem is. It’s a check-the-box situation, like plumbing, and then they ask what one has a problem with. The toilet kept running and running and I didn’t know whether to put toilet or sink. If they could have a little box where we could go into depth a little bit, that would be easier.

American Home Shield calls a company and then we’d get a call from that company and they tell us that the tech will come the next day between some times. I was fortunate enough to have the same contractor both times and it was great each time. I was apprehensive about the thing and I thought it’d be a long wait and they wouldn’t show up. But I’m very satisfied on these two occasions. They came in, identified the problem, and went right to work. It didn’t take them long and there wasn't no hanging around, which I love. They were extremely professional and helpful. For the toilet, the tech ended up using the snake and if I could have talked to someone then he would have known. But it wasn’t a problem as he had the equipment when he came.

Having American Home Shield's service to help out is good. I’m coming up on my one year and we'll definitely renew because I'm retired now and it’s hard to get off a certain amount of money. Now, the American Home Shield expects their money when we make the appointment and I can understand that because that’s not their company that’s coming out. So, we call and make payment online but what would be good is if they give us a chance to pay in two parts.

The faucet was a weird faucet and I have to turn it to the side to turn it on. Unfortunately, the owners didn't leave me any instructions about anything with the house so it's hard for me to figure out. Reviewed Nov. 16, 2017

We've been with American Home Shield for 16 years since we bought this place. My very first experience with AHS was that they had gone through a lawsuit where people claimed that AHS did not pay for things that they should have paid for and we got a $5 payout from this lawsuit. But when we first moved in here, within a month I couldn't use the dishwasher and it leaked water badly all over the floor. The process of getting the first contractor to come out was very easy. But this contractor said that the problem with the dishwasher was my fault because I had used the wrong soap which had broken the seals down. At that time, we weren't living here yet and the prior tenant had done that, but I still had to pay for the repair because that was what the contract said.

So I called AHS about the matter and they sent another contractor out to look at the problem with the dishwasher. The second contractor told me that he didn't blame me for the cracking of the seals and he called AHS to get our claim approved, but AHS wouldn't approve it. So, I had a dishwasher that I absolutely could not use and AHS said it wasn't covered by our warranty because the seals were cracked. I told them that I had just bought the property, but AHS said that since the prior tenant had caused the problem with the dishwasher, then they were not going to cover it. That was an appliance that AHS should have replaced, but they didn't do it. I had to buy my own dishwasher and put it in.

AHS did the same thing with my stove. I was going to put something in the oven and I had a gas blowback and a little ball of gas flame came out. I had a mini-explosion in my house and I learned that I was very lucky that my house didn't explode at that point, with me standing there in front of the oven. AHS had the Edison Company come out and I have the letter from the gas company saying that the oven was not working properly and that there was a problem with a certain part in it, and that the whole oven should be replaced because it was old. I gave that letter to AHS and they said, "We don't deal with that part." They made excuses and never replaced the stove. We had to hire our own company to replace the temperature regulator, but they couldn't fix the rest of the oven and we finally got a new oven that we had to pay for.

Two months ago, I went online to make a payment and I was told that our account was not in the AHS system. I tried several, different ways to get through to AHS online using my address, phone number, and other personal information, but still I was told that our account did not exist in their system. So, I had to go back and call AHS on the phone, but I was bounced around to five different people and it took me another two hours before I could get through to somebody. I was on hold on the phone with AHS for a total of four hours that day. The problem was in getting through to AHS. But once I finally got through, the reps were very helpful. They were not outwardly rude on the phone as with some companies I've dealt with where I run into extremely rude people. For the most part, the AHS reps were very polite, cheerful and fairly active, once I got past being transferred five or six times. But the passing around on the phone shouldn't happen.

Finally, I got through to Rose, a rep at the Atlanta call center. I told her that she was the fifth person I had talked to at AHS that day and that was ridiculous. She was nice enough to actually listen, whereas the other reps I had talked with didn't even bother to listen, told me that they couldn't help me, and just passed me off. Rose was very nice and professional, and she was the type of person that customer service reps should be. It took a while for her to find out what the problem was and she had to put me on hold, but she kept coming back to me, saying that she was looking and trying to resolve the issue. She even went to her manager and her manager took the time to look too, then they came back to me.

I explained to Rose that we had been having problems with being automatically deducted for payments at the wrong time with our bills. So, I had taken our account off of automatic payment and put it on manual payment. Our contract was nearing expiration and it was time to renew our contract, so I tried to go online to the AHS site and make a payment so we could continue with the service. But I couldn't get through to AHS and the website said our account didn't exist. But at that time, our account should still have been in the AHS system because we were then on the last week or two of our contract with AHS.

Finally, Rose said that they had figured out what had happened with our contract. Initially, Rose could not find our account in the AHS system, then she found it in another area of their system. Although I had told Rose that we paid monthly, she said, "You do have a contract, but it's an annual contract." Somebody at AHS had made a note in our account that our annual payment was $474. Rose also said, "We don't have any records of your payments in our system." She said that all the records of our payments had been dropped off the system and were gone. It was a real nightmare. Rose said that had to have the system re-establish our account and she would do certain things to get the matter fixed, but this could take a week to do.

I told Rose that I was concerned because our contract was expiring and I had to renew it. I said, "We were paying $37.83 a month." She got all the information from our contract and sent this over to the sales department which sets up and processes new contracts, so they can create a new contract and I can call and make a claim. Rose said that she would call me once the matter was resolved, but I never got a phone call.

A day or two later, I was looking at my bank account because we had several large items that were getting ready to clear and come through, and I saw an overdrawn balance on our account. It turned out that AHS had processed our new contract and they charged us the full annual amount of $474 instead of a monthly payment of $37.83 which I was expecting, and that got our account overdrawn. They still owe me an NSF fee. I need to get a letter from them stating that it was their error that had caused the overdraft.

AHS didn't offer any apology for their error. I never got a call from them and, even though I requested several times to talk to a manager about this matter, they never put me on the line with a manager. We were having a lot of the issues and needed the money, and we couldn't afford to prepay that full year. It would have been very helpful if they had refunded to us the 11 months of payments that they had charged us and asked us to just pay for the current month. But with as much trouble as I've had with them, I didn't want to be on the phone with them for four to five hours to try to get back the excess payment that they charged us.

Then three weeks down the road, we had an issue with our garage door. The springs in our garage door went out and I couldn't open the door to get my car in the garage. I tried calling AHS to submit a claim for the garage door, but I was on hold for two hours and a half, and I couldn't get through to AHS. Then I went online and tried to use our contract number, but that didn't work. I also used my address, thinking that our new contract and the payment we had made went through and would be in the system with our address, but these weren't there and the site said that no such contract existed. I was livid. I found out that AHS took the payment we made but our new contract was never placed in the system. I finally got through to somebody recently because my husband had fixed the garage door and opened it somehow, although we had left it locked and parked our car outside.

Recently, our water heater went out and we filed a claim with AHS. Actually, that transaction was good once we finally got the contractor out here, but I had a difficult time getting through to AHS. When I called them, I was on hold on the phone for two hours. Holding on for such a very long time was ridiculous, so I had it and I hung up. Then I finally decided to go online to the AHS site and I put in our contract number, but the website said we had no contract with AHS and the number I had put in was just for browsing the system. I was obviously very upset because I knew right away that AHS had not fixed the problem that I had two months before when I had gone online to make a payment and the exact, same thing happened. I finally got through to somebody at AHS after calling them again and being on hold for two hours and 45 minutes. They were absolutely terrible.

I was just about ready to hang up the call when a rep came on the line. I had to warn her that I was extremely upset. The rep was helpful, although she was a little short. Overall, she was nice and polite, but she was on the edge and her tone left me with a weird feeling. But she confirmed that she had us in the system. I said, "I can't pull our account up online." But she said that if I call, our account is in the system. She was able to pull our account up and she confirmed that everything was settled in our account and that all the records were there. I asked her if she could see whoever fixed our account since they were supposed to have called me and she said that she'll bring that up with her manager.

From then on, everything was normal. Lately, it has been okay with AHS and we got the service. I had to call them recently because we were not able to replace the hot water heater right away since we're trying to get the funds for it and it has been difficult for us lately. Luckily, the contractor called me and asked if we still wanted to go forward with the new water heater. I told her, "Yes, definitely, but we're still waiting for the funds." She said that she was making this out on her account and I asked if she could let AHS know about this. She said that she has their number, which is a direct line, so I can get right to it.

But AHS seemed to be going through something recently, around the time of the hurricane, and they may have been bombarded. The reps were on edge and sounded aggravated. AHS had two and a half hour wait times, no one was calling me back, and they kept transferring me around. My husband and I actually talked about transferring to another company. We were getting suggestions from friends on what home warranty provider to go to because were thinking that we couldn't deal with these issues. The only reason we stayed with them then was because they had taken a whole year of payment and we had a whole year's worth of warranty already paid for, and we couldn't afford to pay another company.

Then I called AHS last week and I got through right away, in less than a minute. I told them that we were going forward with the water heater replacement, but there was going to be some delay. The lady rep was nice and I said, "This is like how it used to be before all that mess I went through." I used to call AHS and their wait times even then were getting a little bit long, but the reps have always been very polite and professional on the phone. The rep put our claim for the water heater through quickly. We're going to stay with AHS for now, but next year we'll consider switching over to another home warranty company.

So, I complained a couple of times to AHS and they gave me a number directly and I just handled it with them. The second technician was very good.

The person who answered the phone is the owner. So, when you talked to the owner, things happen. He gave me a direct line to his cell and whenever I called or texted him, he replied right away. And then, his technician came in and he was good. He didn't have to replace the whole thing. He said the heater was gone so he ordered the parts and replaced it. And then, he couldn't do it because there was a havoc in between. So then, he came and fixed it. I also asked him to check something else and he was glad to help me. We kept monitoring it then as the days got a little cooler, it still was barely keeping it at a temperature. So we decided to have it serviced and checked before winter comes. I called AHS and set up the appointment. The reps I talked to were very efficient, professional and told me the day that the tech would come.

The contractor who came out was great. He sent us an email about the time that he was coming but at 8:00 o’clock in the morning, we don’t ever look at our emails. So we didn’t know what time he was going to come but we knew that he was coming that day. He came in at 8:00 o’clock and was very efficient. He figured because of the temperature drop, there must be a leak. So he climbed up in and checked everything with the machinery. Then he said there didn’t seem to be a leak and he was shocked. We’re still shocked about it. But there has to be leak somewhere because he put in two pounds of the refrigerant which was very expensive. So we had paid him when he was done.

AHS warned us that we would have to pay for the refrigerant though I didn’t realize it ahead of time. It’s probably in the paperwork and in the fine print. But we really appreciated that they sent an email a day or two before the actual work was done, warning us that we would have to pay for the refrigerant because it was so expensive now. Without that warning, we would have thought the contractor was gouging us. So that was good that the company does that. So far, it’s a little hard to tell if what the tech did worked because we had the air conditioning on one day and it was fine, but it was not super hot. We’ll find out once the heat pump comes on.

I had a leak underneath my house and I called American Home Shield. My most recent call was a little bit kind of rude. Basically what American Home Shield said was that they couldn’t and wouldn't really help me with my issue anymore. And the woman on the phone was just kind of condescending like, “Oh, look sir. I’m not under your house. I’m not seeing your pipe. All I got is this screen in front of me.” Just like, "There’s nothing I can do or say. It’s just the way it is." I felt like there was a disconnect from the people who are working in customer service and what the customers’ actual issues may be.

I felt like there was nothing that could be done. It’s just more like, “Hey, I’m reading information that someone else has typed in, and I’m just the bearer of the message. That’s it.” Also I've had a technician come out three times. The first time he said he fixed it and then it was still leaking under the house so I called again. The second time the guy did nothing except just turn off my main water supply. The third time he came out he goes, “Yeah, I fixed it.” And then it was leaking again. So the three times that someone came out it was never ever, ever fixed. So now I’m actually having a regular plumber that I found outside of American Home Shield to come today to fix my issue because this whole American Home Shield warranty thing just did not work out for me.

They turned in the claim that the dishwasher was not repairable and then I got an email from American Home Shield that they were going to replace it. They gave me what they would recommend or we could purchase one and that they would only allow this much on a purchase and then if we get anything more than that we pay for it. The oven had gone out before. It has a part that is defective from General Electric that designed that item. The motherboard goes out once every 18 months. So this recent claim was one of those call-ins where the oven has gone out and not working again. The vendor came out with the wrong part. It took them three weeks to figure out that they didn’t even order another part. They finally ordered the part and then came out but the oven was down for over a month which was very disappointing. Even though this particular vendor has nice people, AHS still dropped the ball with them. But that’s not always the experience with AHS. I call the 1-800 number to submit a claim, which means I get a round robin of different people. Some are very attentive, some not so much. They have an automated system that allows us to call it in and get it started. It's very helpful and very useful. We’ve had a good experience with their reps.

However, as much as we appreciate having the ability to call them for so many appliances, it disappoints me that we can’t use repeated good vendors and that it’s always a flip a coin and then there’s a new vendor. We try them and the experiences can be totally different from one to the other. What AHS needs to improve on a little better is the quality of their vendors. I recall an AC repair where we’ve got old units and the guy that came told me I have to have the whole thing replaced, looking at $10,000 to $12,000 cost. I requested AHS to get me a 2nd person from a particular vendor to come out here since they’ve already come out here before and have been very honest and very timely with what we needed.

I've done it twice where we’d get a second opinion and the guy comes out here and he adds two pounds of Freon and said that there’s nothing wrong with our unit. Some of their vendors truly aren’t working on behalf of AHS or the end user like me and trying to take advantage of an opportunity to make $10,000 to $12,000 instead of just the service fee for $75. And then I would call and tell AHS that I don’t want those people ever back again. I would think that after they get a couple of these types of calls for a particular vendor, that they would disqualify them from using AHS to get some of their future repair orders. But what happens is that if they get disqualified for coming to my house, they’re still out there doing business for American Home Shield and causing havoc to others. This means that there are additional costs that are being spent that aren’t needed and is not the intention of American Home Shield’s services.

AHS try other contractors but they aren’t doing a good job of removing the bad ones from their portfolio. If they have good people and didn’t have these issues, then it would be a better experience for not only American Home Shield but for the consumer, who would have a bit more faith in the people. I wish they do a better job of not just taking them off a personal residence but to take them out of their system which would make all those contractors be a bit more sensitive to providing good and honest service.

Nevertheless, all the repairs eventually got taken care of. They got started, then all got concluded and life goes on. We would continue using them and keep a good record of who I don’t want back in this house to make sure that they don’t send me these bad people that are not doing an honest job. Our home was new 10 years ago and we have appliances that are having issues so AHS is a good investment for us. I have recommended them to other people that have had similar experiences with other services. The overall experience has been good.

After having written my original Consumer Affairs review of this company, I was contacted by a company representative both in writing, and via a phone call. After I explained my situation, and after some researching by the company and further discussion of the matter together, the home warranty company agreed to replace our washing machine. I replaced our machine and received a check in the mail a couple of weeks later for the full amount. I am very grateful for the outcome of this situation and for the company's representative who worked on my behalf. My only suggestion for the company would be to improve communications to the customer, both in terms of content and frequency of the status of their claim, and to reduce the hold times when a customer does call in for a status update.

    Original Review: Nov. 15, 2017

I have been with AHS for two years. Last week, our washer stopped working. I requested service from them and they sent out a repairman who said the control board was bad and that he could not find a replacement part. He said that he would let AHS know and they would either find a replacement part for him to come back and install, or they would have to replace the washer.

The next day, I got an email stating that my service request had been completed and fulfilled. I called AHS the following day, waited for an hour on hold, and then was told by their representative that they had begun a search for the replacement part and that it would take 24-48 hours to find it and that they would get back to me. It has now been 5 days and no contact from AHS. I am currently on hold with them and have been for 2 hours. They provide no way on their website to contact them via email. The only way to contact them is to wait on hold forever. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY!

Our dishwasher started leaking a week and a half ago and so we went to American Home Shield and called a plumber. Immediately I got a plumber that was connected with me. The plumbers came, but unfortunately, they’re taking a long time to get back to us about what’s going to happen next. They initially came to look at the dishwasher, and then they said it might need to be replaced. I’ve been calling them every day asking what’s going on, because every day I use the dishwasher and it’s still leaking. If my kids move the bowl, it makes a mess under the sink and it gets slippery on the floor. It’s smelly and dirty. I’ve left three to four messages and they haven’t returned my calls.

The techs are nice when they come out, but their response time is not that great. They’ll come initially to see what’s wrong, but it’ll take them two weeks to get back to me with something. We had another issue with the water heater and somebody came relatively quickly, but then it's the same thing. I was calling them for two weeks asking them what’s going on with the water heater and what parts do we need, and they weren’t calling me back. I don't know if that's normal and I’m just not used to that, but I always thought that you should let the customer know what was going on, and at least return the call. But with American Home Shield, the service is good and they've been really cool. I always submit claims from my phone, online. It’s really nice, easy and quick. It’s a useful service, and it connects you with local technicians quickly.

He came and he told me that it was terminal and that it needs to be replaced. They got back to me in a timely fashion and offered me a website to look for a washer comparable to the one that I had. I did that and I ordered off the website and it was delivered. The contractor has been to my home other times and he was excellent. I'm happy with their customer service. However, the high volume in their call center happens a lot, and it's a long wait.

Sometimes they'll say, "Leave your number, and we'll get back to you." But if you're having serious water problems, having me wait and get back to me is not going to help my situation at all. I've had three or four negative experiences. For instance, with the other refrigerator, they told me that the refrigerator was insured, but the freezer was not. I don't understand that. Isn't the freezer part of the refrigerator? So, they charge me more money to get the freezer insured. I was really upset about that. But so far, so good. This time, it was a better experience.

We had one claim on the dishwasher that we're still in the middle of getting fixed. It's a two-part dishwasher so there's an upper part and a lower part and it'd be nice to have the lower part working again. The contractor was originally scheduled for six days from when I called them. But they called when they had an opening and I happened to be home because I was getting the air conditioning fixed that same day. Their guy came out that day and was here in three days instead of six. And this guy was good. We've had the dishwasher looked at five times before but he took the whole thing apart and determined that a printed circuit board connection was bad. They have the new board now but I haven't had time to take another day off work to get it put in.

We've also had a couple of occasions with American Home Shield where people came out and saw something wrong then handed us off to another company. We had to restart the whole process and that could get frustrating, especially when you're taking a day off work to try and schedule something. But we've also had some good vendors that came out.

I called them in the morning and the contractor was here by 12:30 PM so I was very pleased with them. He was polite and did what he was supposed to do.

Other than that, I like the fact that I can pay on a monthly installment to have their services. But I think that I should not be paying the $75 since I'm paying them for a yearly contract. Also, in some situations, the turnaround time for a technician to contact me is between 24 and 48 hours. But usually, when somebody needs something, it's an emergency. I understand that they have other jobs, too, but in some circumstances, they should be waived. For example, with the cold weather coming in, if someone's having problems with their heating system, they shouldn't have to wait 24 or 48 hours for somebody to come up. So with something like that, there needs to be some type of emergency wherein that the contractors can come out readily and take care of their client's needs. I have also found out that the contractors were supposed to contact me when I had a claim, but I had to contact them in order to get something done.

First two repairs went well. Third repair was a stripped diverter/shower faucet which is covered in the warranty. The repair company sent by AHS/ Flowright Plumbing indicated that it wasn't covered because it had been installed incorrectly BUT that he would contact me with a quote/estimate to repair it. He also only looked at one out of two items. A second opinion plumber said it was a simple stripped diverter (which should be covered under warranty) and that the plumbing company was just trying to make additional $. It seems like a clear conflict of interest for the contractors that AHS sends to say it is not covered but hire me. A complaint to AHS brought no response even so far... much less a resolution.

I've had AHS for over 10 years and their service has continued to decline. My recent experience with them was the straw that broke the camel's back and I cancelled both of my homes. If you want to submit a service claim, the easiest way to do it is online. Then they set up a repair person to do the work. If it is something routine and small, like a ceiling fan, you pay your fee (ours was $75) and hopefully the tech will take care of it. If it is something more expensive, like a pool heater, then that's where I've found they've become very, very difficult. They will nickel and dime you much of the time. READ THE FINE PRINT. Some items have maximum limits. For AC units they won't replace or repair with state of the art items. For coolant leaks they only cover a pound or two. At $40 per pound you can end up paying hundreds of dollars just for a leak. Then if it has to be replaced they will probably install junk.

Recently, our pool heater stopped working. Their tech determined that it was the heater valve and that AHS wouldn't repair it because we didn't have a sediment trap on the gas line. First of all, this trap isn't required by code nor is it required by the manufacturer. Second, there isn't any way for the tech to know if particles from the gas line are what caused it to stop working. He was speculating. So I paid this dude $75 to tell me that AHS wouldn't repair it.

Now they only have two ways to reach them that I could find. One, you can call them on their 800 number. Or you can submit a repair work order. Well, the online option didn't give me the option to dispute the repair diagnosis so I called. I waited over an hour on hold before they answered. Then they said they would set up another tech to get a second opinion. They never called or contacted me. I called again and waited over an hour to get through. Oh, sorry, they said but they didn't have another company to send over there to get the second opinion. So they said AHS considered the matter closed.

After spending hours on the phone, I was done with AHS. I just talked to an actual pool repair company and they said the gas line and valve was fine. It was some other component parts that had malfunctioned. They said the other company obviously didn't know what they were doing. And of course, the cost to repair was $900. This would have been covered even by AHS' own limited responsibilities but I couldn't have forced them to repair it because some yahoo they hired misdiagnosed it in the first place. This isn't the only problem I've had, so I'm still glad I cancelled. I can save my $300 per month I was paying for both houses and just use that for future repairs... You already pay $75 each time they come out anyway. Good riddance AHS!

Do not waste your time with this company. Either find a company that has a better reputation or save the money you would pay them every month and fix the issue yourself. I have been with AHS for many years. They were recommended by a co-worker who spoke their praises and for the first year they were great. They fixed my AC twice, replaced my microwave, then they went completely downhill using substandard contractors with one and two star reviews themselves. I am now on another hour long wait to speak to a customer service representative, this would be my 4th call, waiting an hour to speak to someone since 10/20/2017. I called for service on my refrigerator before 10/20/2017.

They assigned AmTech, a contractor who has more bad reviews than good. The contractor came out, said our refrigerator was old, needed a part, to wait a week and he would be back. Just a note that our freezer stopped working not the refrigerator. The part came in and the freezer worked for one day, then stopped again. We didn't notice because we were off getting married. When we returned, we called AHS and they sent the same contractor out again. The contractor said, it needed another part, wait another week, he would be back. We did, he did, but this time we had to drag the refrigerator all the way to the garage he said he would have to weld it, and needed space. We did, he did, and for a day, the freezer half way worked, next day, not only did the freezer stop working now the refrigerator didn't either. The contractor said it would be another week before he could come out and look at it.

When we call AHS and told them this was unacceptable that we have been without a refrigerator for almost a month, they contacted another contractor that day, a contractor that had a 1 star review. When the previous contractor found this out, they rushed to the house, looked at the fridge and said, oh you need another part (I CAN'T EVEN MAKE THIS UP) wait another week. It is today exactly another week. I get an email from AHS stating that our service is complete and to rate the contractor. I called the contractor who stated they called AHS on 11/8 and told them they couldn't fix it, they would need to give us a second opinion or replace the refrigerator. It is 11/14 and the only contact I've had with AHS is this email saying my service is complete. Note that I contacted them on 11/7 to complain about this whole situation and they told me the contractor had ordered the part and would contact me next week!

Five vials of insulin in the garbage, it’s about to be Thanksgiving and I could have taken the $100.00 service fee that's nonrefundable whether they fix your appliance or not and added to my wedding money and got me a new refrigerator. The service request has completely disappeared from my account online. I wasted, time, ice, money, and medicine trusting this company. They stopped me from cancelling my service before when they tried to screw me on my hot water heater replacement but this time, I'm completely done… And by the way I'm still on hold.

I tried submitting a claim to American Home Shield twice over the phone and in both times I had a 30-minute wait. I let it go for about 15 minutes on my speakerphone and decided to file a plumbing problem online, which was a leak in the toilet. The contractor was excellent and got a hold of us within 24 to 48 hours which was really quick. He contacted me and we set up an appointment the next day so it was a super quick turnaround. A nice guy came out and fixed the problem right away. He was very professional and it was a good experience.

When we were new customers, our first call should be free for using the policy. After the bill came, my husband contacted AHS telling them that it was part of the sign up that the first service is free. But, the rep told us to have that happen, we have to speak to a representative. But when you’re on the phone waiting for a representative, they encourage you to use the online, which I can understand. There’s nothing wrong with going online and filing a claim, but there should have something on your online submission that allows you to make a notation that it’s your actual first usage so the first time you use it, it’s free and then you would go to whatever the standard charge thereafter.

We were told that we have a year from the sign-up date to use it, so the next time that we need to make a call with someone, we have to make sure that we speak with a representative and not do it online. So we asked them if we could go retroactively put it as our first usage, and the service would be free, and we were told, “No, you have to speak to a representative”. So, that's the only glitch. Other than that, AHS is fine and I would recommend them to someone else.

The first people were miserable, and then, American Home Shield assigned me to someone else. It has probably been about three months ago that I called them the first time and then, a month ago, they were here. That's when they were going to order more parts because the guy told me there was nothing wrong with it, although it was obvious there was. American Home Shield has been fine. I had to call AHS out for some electrical issues and it was worth the $75 to get somebody out here to explain. Overall claims process was very easy. I just call or do it online then somebody usually contacts us and they're out here within a day or two. Everyone they send has been very helpful and everything turned out fine. Having the policy has been a very good thing for us and we didn’t realize what the benefits would be until we’ve had to use them. We've been very pleased and I would recommend them.

I filed a claim recently with American Home Shield for the heater for a spa due to wear and tear. Submitting the claim was okay but getting the process done wasn't. Calling them and talking to the sales rep or to the customer service, I was explaining to them all about the pipe that was corroded on the ground. She told me that it was covered by my insurance, only to find out when the pool guy came down here it wasn't. So now, I'm trying to collect my $75 back and I'm calling American Home Shield because they're supposed to be refunding my money. But that's already been a few days so I'll give it until Monday. I had other claims before and they came and fixed the problem. My experience with them has been great except for this one misunderstanding.

I’ve had two claims that I had to submit with AHS and I have had a bad experience on both times. The first time, my AC unit needed repair and AHS didn’t advise me that the refrigerant was not covered under my plan. I went ahead and submitted a claim. A guy came out and through the back, he wanted to charge me $300 and something for my refrigerant. I called AHS and they told that they should have sent out all that information to me, which they didn't so I wasn’t aware of that. Otherwise, I would not have had him come out. As I was talking to the lady from AHS, she began to email me the policy on the air conditioning unit. So, with the $100 deductible, I had to pay AHS $398 that day. Afterwards, I contacted another HVAC guy. He would’ve charged me $240. So, it was even higher going through AHS than if I had called a private company.

The second time, there was a leak in my ceiling and it ended up being the upstairs bathroom that I had an issue with. The guys came out and fixed the leak but they did not advise me that there was an additional charge if he had to cut through drywall or repair the drywall. That was nowhere in the information that I had and I thought it was part of the claim. When he left, there's a two-by-three-foot hole in my basement ceiling in my living room. They were going to review my plan and give me a callback, but I’ve never heard anything from them.

Customer service should be upfront in letting people know that this is what’s covered and this is what’s not. Even if they don’t know, I would rather have them tell me that they're not sure if something is covered and they would give me a callback when they find the answer. But telling me that things are covered and then when a contractor showed up, I expected one thing but he was telling me something different, that's not a good situation. After their service though, the HVAC was good. But I still have that hole in my ceiling and I'm waiting for a contractor to come out next week and do the repair. Of course, that’s going to be out of my own pocket.

My hot tub is not getting hot and my pool guy thought it was the pump. It's covered by American Home Shield. Submitting that claim was really easy. The reps that I spoke to seem pretty good and I just went online and told them what's wrong. Then they assigned to me somebody who would either call me or I'll call them, and they’d arrange a time to come out. That part was pretty seamless. But then they sent somebody out who wouldn't look at it because he said he couldn’t get to it, which was kind of ridiculous. I asked American Home Shield to send somebody else out, and they looked at it, diagnosed it, and said they would order the part. But they never called me and it took two weeks, and I had to call them a couple of times.

When I called American Home Shield, I was on hold a really long time. I think that’s when all the floods were and they were really busy. It took a little more time on my part than I would have liked, but they did a nice job fixing it, and the end result was very positive. However, they never put water in my hot tub to test it out. They said they don’t do that and they’re supposed to just put the tub in, so it was not a very satisfying experience. I’ve been with American Home Shield since I bought the house about four years ago and I think they’re a really good company, but I don’t know how the ball got dropped. I called them to say, “Aren't you going to fill it up? How do I even know you were here? How do I even know it works?”, but there was no paperwork, and they said that’s how they did it. I haven't needed American Home Shield a lot, but they’ve been amazing. My garbage disposal went out and they had somebody out here the same day fixing it.

Submitting a claim with AHS over the phone is easy. For the last couple of times, I've dealt with their automated system which doesn't have the intelligence to know whether or not I'm submitting the same claim or a different claim. I had to call back to follow up on my appliance and they had already visited. It should have the intelligence to be able to offer me the option to answer questions about an existing claim. But instead, it recreated the claim for me so I ended up getting a recreated claim that was cancelled because of the confusion the system had.

The water heater that I filed a claim for needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, American Home Shield only gave me $500, which was only a portion of the $1,500 replacement. So they leave it on the owners to pay for a lot of things and to cover some of the costs. It's atrocious. The expansion tank was also affected by the installation and AHS told me that they won't accommodate that and that they won't allow me to go up a level so that even without an expansion tank, I could end up with a tank capacity. The other issue I had with them was that since the heater is really old, replacing it will mean replacing one of the gas lines since they can't re-install a hot water heater as old as the one we currently have. However, they won't pay for a modification. Now, my husband and I are going to have to either wait until the thing explodes.

This is the worst I've seen in terms of loop holes and manipulations by the company. But I've also had fair experiences with AHS. When my old, 36-inch wide range oven died and needed to be replaced, they told me that they'd replace it but I can't have a 36-inch wide unit anymore since they don't replace that feature. It resulted in me needing to modify my kitchen to deal with what has been a six-inch gap where the range was because they refused to replace it with the same size. These are the maneuvers that make me question whether or not I need to have a home warranty service or should I just save up the money and when I'm ready to get a new range, I can get what I want because I saved hundreds of dollars.

AHS should come up with a way to have the home warranty service monthly cost be aligned with the age of the appliances because for me to pay what I pay every month with this service and then when I finally need something replaced, they nickel and dime me, it makes me feel like I shouldn't even have this service because they are getting more from me than I'm getting from them. Overall, it was a nuance and tricky experience with American Home Shield.

I submitted most of my claims to American Home Shield over the phone. They were fast to answer and some of their reps were helpful, while some were not. They said they would get back to us, but we didn’t hear from them and since they thought all the information and problems were in front of you, you would just take care of it. Sometimes, their contractors didn’t show up on time while some said they were coming but never showed up. It was hard because we took our time off from work to be there but they would call and say they couldn’t come today. They were knowledgeable and friendly, but Home Shield needs to have good contractors who are more responsible, have a good experience and do not repeat the problem but take care of it instead. Their whole concept needs to be improved.

One time, I had air conditioning problems but Home Shield was not listening and kept sending the same guy who didn’t help me over and over. Each time he came, he would just replace one part. They knew the whole A/C was going down and the customer could pay the difference, but they didn’t replace it. Home Shield charged too much money every time the person came and at the same time, we took time from work every day and just sat there. Finally, I replaced my whole A/C out of my own pocket because it was the worst each time I dealt with them. On the other hand, the tenants in my other home also called them for a claim and it was taken care of.

I forgot we had American Home Shield until my daughter-in-law mentioned it to me. I wouldn't have paid things out of pocket for all of it, good thing she reminded me. I stayed with my daughter-in-law for about two months and their hot water heater went out. I went and stayed in a hotel because it took them almost two and a half weeks to get it replaced.

Submitting the claim for the AC was easy and the contractors they sent, two gentlemen, were very personable. I was here the whole time watching what they were doing, I was asking questions and they answered them. It took them a while to figure what was wrong but the AC has been working great since the repair. We've been checking to make sure there are no further leaks and evidently, it was the drain, something came off in the AC that goes outside. That was probably installed improperly from the beginning. I was really impressed with the service because I wasn't sure how I was going to be. After that experience with my daughter-in-law, of them not having hot water heater for two weeks, I was not looking forward to no AC for two weeks. I'll be calling them back to do the maintenance on the AC unit, private heating unit as well.

But my water heater issue has not been resolved even though the contractor said that it works fine. It works fine for a few hours then it doesn’t anymore. The first contractor who came out was the owner of the company. But he had to come out three times and on the fourth time, he sent out somebody else and it’s still not resolved. So I requested a different company and they seemed to have a better handle on it. The last contractor was extremely nice and seemed very knowledgeable. They had approval on the water heater to be replaced but there is a waiting period because Florida has no experience in gas water heaters.

When there was a problem with my previous provider, issues were resolved and if the issue was not solvable, then it would be replaced. I didn't have to call six times either. With AHS, I’ve only had one issue with the water heater and it should have been resolved within five times that the contractor came out. Winter is coming and Florida is not as cold as other states but nevertheless it should be resolved. They seem to be working on the claim but I'm not very happy.

Our hot water heater went out. We usually call AHS when submitting a claim and their reps are very good about it. Though there were some things that had to be done that the insurance didn't pay for which we had to pay out of our pocket, the contractors were very nice and did a very good job. The stand that our hot water heater was on had to be rebuilt because it had leaked through. They did a very good job of suggesting a contractor to do that. And the guy came out that very day they told us, and then he started work the very next day and finished it up on the day we put the claim in. He did a really good job of fixing it. And then because of the state and city, the contractors had to make modifications for the hot water heater to comply with state regulations. So, the plumber went ahead and did that too since the insurance didn’t cover it either. But all in all, if I had to experience the bad experience, I am glad we have American Home Shield.

Usually, the contractor would call and make a schedule. But when my AC was not working and I asked them if they could send someone quickly because it was summertime, they failed to send someone and I had to fix it by my own. So, I had to change it. My water heater ruptured about a month or two ago and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was pretty bad. They showed no sense of urgency about getting it fixed and it took us five days to get somebody in here. I placed a call on a Wednesday afternoon and we automatically got dispatched to somebody who didn’t bother to call us that afternoon until the next morning. They couldn’t get to us until Tuesday and the water heater was spraying water up against the foundation. It was the plumbing leak in the middle of the tank and we didn’t realize this when we bought our house. There was something weird about the plumbing because they used to have a solar hot water system, which means you can’t completely shut the water off back flowing from the house. Even after the tank drained down to where the leak was, there was still water running out.

So, for four to five days, water was leaking out into the basement and running down the drain. I tried to get back with American Home Shield but it was really hard to get through to somebody because that was the time when everyone was making calls about problems in Texas and Florida. I can’t really fault them for being busy at that time. When I finally got through to somebody, I was like, “Well, I need this to get taken care of. I can’t wait.” The woman I spoke with on the phone was very nice, very accommodating, and tried hard. She called five or six places around Arvada and Denver, but some of them wouldn’t answer the phone. Some of them weren’t even part of the American Home Shield network anymore. Four were disconnected. And the couple of places she called didn’t do hot water heaters.

I was on hold for half an hour as she was trying to get through those places until she finally found one but they couldn’t show up until Monday. When I finally got in touch with the guy on Friday, he was going to have to come out and inspect it and then order the hot water heater. I was able to take some pictures and show him the various parts. He said, “Yeah. I don’t need to come out. I can just order it. I’ll be out next day.” So, the guy that came and said, “I got to charge you this amount to do the work.” I said, “What?” And he was like, “Yeah. But they say it’s for parts and other stuff.” And I was like, “What parts?” I understand them saying that it was weird stuff that the plumber had to do to get it back in or to bring it up to quote, then you have to pay for those parts. But in this case, all he did was replace the hot water heater with exactly another hot water heater.

And the one part he added was some flexible tubing in there, then charged me $30 or $40 for the two pieces of tubing. But I have no idea what the $230 fee was for. They were slow to respond, there really was no sense of urgency, and there were extra fees. And that’s not what I had signed up for. I didn’t pay for it so I can’t complain too much. It saved me some money but it makes me wonder that if I use it again, what place is it now where people are calling them? So, I’m not really happy. If I had a great experience with American Home Shield, I might have renewed when my term was up but as it is now, no and it’s not worth it. The guy that came out here to replace the water heater was great but no matter how good they are, their companies won’t let them do the best job because they don’t provide them the tools and the information.

I had lots of difficulty with American Home Shield in working with one of their vendors for a washing machine repair. It literally took eight months for them to finally say it wasn’t repairable even though I told them I had a 95-year old mom here and I’ve got to be able to clean her clothes. I travel all the time so when I get here, I can’t go to a laundromat. I had to have people come and help me keep things washed for her but there was no real understanding of that or caring in my view until I wrote to the manager of the vendor who did write back. He said I didn't understand how it really worked and AHS wanted them to try to repair it then the vendor gets graded from what he said or whether or not AHS repairs it rather than replacing it.

It took a lot of work. I had written letters to everybody. I even went to Congressman Hoyer and had his office involved. The vendor said they've been out eight times but they were going to try again. It was absolutely unacceptable. I told them I didn't have to get an attorney involved but my mom's comfort level was involved. The vendor sent his whole team out and they called from my house to say they couldn't repair it. That's a crazy process that they have to be able to say they can't repair it before AHS finally decided they would replace the appliance. If technicians have been out four times then that means they've been working but they can't repair it, then American Home Shield needs to do what they need to do.

But once they said they would replace it, the response was within 24 hours. They asked me if I wanted them to replace it or send me a certain amount if I wanted another washer. There needs to be a stronger relationship between their vendors too. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had and I was very upset with them. I really tried to look for someone else but then I‘ve had people come back since to look at the furnace and they’ve come in a fairly good period of time. The furnace has leaked a couple of times and the gentleman who came out was really wonderful. He was here less than 40 minutes, cleaned it up and fixed it, and everything was fine.

I don’t have to pay the vendor immediately too. American Home Shield paid first and I only pay them. That’s one difference I’ve seen in the last several months and that was fine with me. I’m not sure if that impacts the service at all though because one gentleman said that he was going to have to quit because of the time it takes for them to get paid.

The only other challenge I had was the winter before last when the heat went out. I told them I needed somebody as soon as possible but the person I was dealing with at the time didn’t seem to care at all. When I finally asked for a manager, now that was one of the challenges. You never know if they’ve given the phone to somebody else or whether it’s a high-level person. That person said another person had given the right information but a lot of people have called in and I have to wait. I've heard that sometimes they would let people go out and buy a heater so I was asking what other recommendations they had, but they didn't have any suggestions at all.

Other than that, they have been fairly responsive and I’ve had American Home Shield for 12 years. I submit claims over the phone and when we first got it, there was a real rapid response to it. Now, you’re on hold with the music for up to forty five minutes sometimes. It takes a long time for them to make a decision to replace something but for general types of issues, they try to get somebody out in a fairly rapid period of time. While I’ve had some good experiences, I’ve had a few that were really so unfortunate that it lacked professionalism that I had expected over the years. I would tell people to shop around and do some comparisons.

The problem with that is that the sink is right next to the dishwasher and he was not able to keep his hands under the hot water when we turned it on. Still he put that down instead of replacing the dishwasher. AHS has the worst customer support I have ever experienced. Our hold times ranged from 30 minutes to 1hr 22 minutes. The last call I asked for a supervisor three times and was refused. I finally got smart and canceled the service. Today our new dishwasher was installed. It works perfectly no thanks to them. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE.

I had AHS for couple years now, was very happy up until a few days ago. I requested service, my heater burner to furnace stopped working. It's very cold outside so I had no heat. I went online, requested service simple enough. But problem was the service contractor AHS recommended never responded. I even called and left a message several times and still not gotten any response. This is when the headache started. I have been calling AHS for several days and could not get through. Wait times usually 30min to 1hour or more. I then called a contractor myself and paid out of my own pocket because I couldn't sit around freezing. I then finally decide I'm going to cancel my policy. After calling and waiting I finally got through to customer service and speaking to the young lady trying to explain to her what happened, she didn't seem like she cared just by the tone in her voice. So disappointed in AHS, felt like I just wasted my money for the past couple years.

I'm extremely disappointed in American Home Shield. I called them to report an issue with our water heater as we were no longer receiving hot water. They sent a technician out within 48 hours (Saturday). The technician indicated that the thermostat on the water heater had gone out. He said it was a model that was only made for one year and that there have been many issues with the thermostats... he indicated that they go out all the time. He would place an order for a new thermostat to replace. On Monday, AHS left a message and said the thermostat went out due to a power surge and that power surges are not covered. However, the power never went out! So not only will AHS not cover the thermostat, but they also collected $75 for the fee. What a racket!

They have contacts with very bad companies or one man company to fix your problems. Any time you call them, you will be on hold for hours and that is not a joke. I am done with them. Funny thing is that you call their sales, they will answer your phone in 1 second but call their service and you better go to sleep, take a nap. Salespeople don't care about your problem. Go with someone else. They should be reported too for their bad service.

I have heard wonderful things about American Home Shield but this weekend I had an emergency. The handle on my bath tub came off and the water continued to run on a fast pace. I had to call someone to shut off my water. I was told by American Home Shield that they do not have an emergency service and I had to wait 24 hours to make an appointment. I am single and a senior citizen. This was one of the purpose for me getting this warranty. The customer service representative had no problem asking me for the $100.00 fee and they have no problem deducting the money from my account each month.

This was an emergency to me not being able to bath, flush the toilet and etc. They told me I could get a plumber but they gave me a list of the good plumber I could not use. But she could not tell me how much money I could spend for a plumber. This was very stressful for me and gave me second thought about American Home Shield because I cant use them for an emergency.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple of years now. The last claim we had was for our air-conditioner back in August, and everything was fine. The contractors were good and they got the job done. I just had issues with spending over two hours on the phone trying to confirm that I paid the air-conditioner people $100, and I kept getting a bill. There's no way to communicate other than via the phone. The first time I called about the bill, I was on hold for over 45 minutes. The second time I called, I was on the phone for half an hour and yesterday, I was on the phone for another half hour. It would be better if they had a way to email issues because I've spent over two hours on the phone and I don't have time to be doing that. But the problem has been resolved and it didn't show that I owed anything. The service is great and I have recommended them.

The whole time was difficult because that was during hurricane Harvey so I waited on the phone for an hour and 40 minutes. For about four times I had to call because they would pick-up and then the phone would turn off or it would take that long and then I had to call back because they didn't get my claim. But I understood the whole hurricane situation and that they had a bunch of stuff going on. Besides, they were very nice and helpful. I had 3 Boys Appliance come for the two jobs and then I had another contractor come for the dishwasher. They were very professional and got the job done. The 3 Boys Appliance had to order a part for my dryer which came in in about a week and they came back as soon as the part came in. Everything works great now, and AHS has been very helpful and polite.

The first time I submitted a claim wasn’t hard at all. It was a phone call and it went straight through. Our pool motor went out so I called American Home Shield. They had someone come out and repair it. They’ve been very on time, very knowledgeable and organized.

The technician showed that he really knew what he was doing. He went through all the scenarios of what could be the problem and what actually was the problem. We were able to find that out right away and put it together really quick. The pool got real messy after the storm and once the motor was in, within a couple of days, it was ready to go. I've filed claims online with American Home Shield but at times that I've used it, I've ended up having to call anyway. The website was user-friendly except when we had two AC issues two weeks apart and the AHS website wouldn't let me put in a claim for the AC online because I had already done a claim on the AC recently. I had to make sure I called in. Then when I did the pool, I called on that one too because when I went through and looked at what's covered, it didn’t specify the specific part that needed replacing so I had to ask them questions.

The biggest challenge recently was when we had a gas leak. I honestly don’t know if that would have been covered, but I didn’t even try to use American Home Shield because the turnaround time is slower than just calling someone myself. If I put the claim in one day, I never get a call back from the people until pretty much at late afternoon or the following day. They can never come out the same day so it feels like waiting 48 hours to actually get it worked on versus calling someone directly that can typically come the next day.

We already know what it is but it doesn't seem like I can get it done. AHS is a good company. However, we're taking too long for this project. They have been sending the wrong young people out here and I'm ready to get this stuff done. They sent me 3 different contractors out here and they don't know how to fix it. I got different diagnoses and it's been a hectic thing with them. One wants to go through the kitchen walls and one wants to go through the bathroom walls and take the shower out, which I was planning to do anyway. But it isn't my decision, I just want it fixed.

I go and tell American Home Shield to get the company and they won't come back and do it. I can't take a shower and if I take a shower, I’ve got to get the water out of the bathtub and pour it in the commode. AHS needs to send some experienced and older people. The youngsters, they might have been schooled and know something, but the older dudes, they got the experience and then did it before. They better do something.

The contractor called me to make sure that the time for coming to my house was the right one and they also texted me reminding me of the appointment. The AC is cooling down now the way it was before. I already put another claim a few weeks ago because the toilet was leaking and I might have to put another one. We bought a house and we just moved in this weekend. I’ve been using some things in the house and I have noticed plumbing issues again, so I’m just going to wait until I find everything.

Sometimes it’s hard to find somebody to talk over the phone for a small question. When I put the claim for the AC, I have to call that day and request that I have two units and I was on wait for a little bit. It wasn’t a big deal, but I would have preferred to do the repair a day or two or when I put the claim. But I wasn't given an option to leave a message or add additional things because the AC is not working but I don’t know which one is not working. And sometimes, it’s hard to find the number. If you are a member or if you have to pay for the coverage, they should provide a different phone number that you can speak with somebody. So far, it’s costing us whatever is not covered but I’m happy.

American Home Shield was recommended by a friend when I bought my house. I had two claims on my air conditioner and those were handled the same day. I had a claim on my dryer, ceiling fan, water heater, and I’m currently in the middle of a claim for my microwave, which is the only time I have been unhappy. The contractor came out right away and said he'll let me know whether it's going to be repaired or replaced. He was good about that and I was told it was gonna be replaced, so I needed to order one and I was given the link for ordering. I waited four days before I ordered but I still haven’t gotten the microwave so I had to call the company that’s going to deliver and install the microwave. I called them on Friday and they said they didn’t have it, so I challenged them and they said they have it and that they'll deliver it on Tuesday.

When I asked what time, they said they'll let me know on Monday. It’s Wednesday and I called on Tuesday late afternoon. They said the order just arrived and that they’ll deliver it the following day but they’re going to call me today and tell me when they’re going to deliver it. The woman who answered the phone sounds like she's sitting on the couch, watching something. I have three millennial kids at home, they don’t cook and I'm still waiting for my microwave. It’s been over three weeks and the company doing the installation isn’t as top-notch as all the other representatives I've had.

I usually file claims over the phone and they tell me to pay the vendor for the service call, so I expected to pay the vendor in two cases and they said I'll get a bill in the mail from American Home Shield. Then I got an e-mail saying my payment was delinquent, but I never got a bill. I paid that, called again and paid another one. I got a bill last week right after I paid, but we got that cleared up. It’s a new way of paying and I wasn't aware that they do it that way.

Generally, the contractors have been great. But I have one friend who has American Home Shield and he hates them because they said it was gonna be over two weeks for an air conditioner call. I told him that’s really funny because I called AHS twice and the contractor came out the same day when I called during the week. When I called on a weekend, they couldn’t send people out on the same day but they offered to let me call somebody on my own and then have American Home Shield reimburse me, which they did and that was perfect. I've had AHS for 6 years and they’re great. I'm satisfied with them.

I have four service requests and we're still having issues with at least half of those. We had inoperable ovens in our kitchen and it took a week for someone to get out and take a look at the unit. Everything since then has been downhill. It took American Home Shield another two weeks to make a determination on whether it was repairable or replaceable then I received a follow-up another week after that. So it took three weeks to make some determination to get me some idea of what was going on. What they proposed wasn't going to work and I'm still going round and round with them about the replacement options.

I have had to call them multiple times to ask and I have finally reached them after five days of trying to get through. I've been on hold greater than 45 minutes each time yet no one had picked up. One time, I was even on the line for over a hundred minutes. Yesterday, after close to an hour of being on hold, someone finally picked up and was very apologetic and nice. She went ahead and resubmitted my request to see if they could replace with something that would be more like of what we have. It's been going on for a month now and all along, we've had an inoperable oven and microwave so my wife has not been happy.

One other claim in particular was on having our locks re-keyed. It wasn't necessarily American Home Shield's problem but the contractor Rekey messed around for at least three weeks, trying to get somebody out, which was really unheard of. I can call locksmiths and have somebody here by the end of the day. Especially with the sense of safety and security, that was a concern. I kept getting an excuse from the Rekey representative that the gentleman just had a baby and he's been busy. I understand that and am sympathetic but AHS needs to be able to use a vendor that's going to handle the business. AHS needs to either terminate their agreement or have a stern conversation with them about how they're handling their business.

I have made half a dozen calls about getting the locks re-keyed and they'd say they'd follow up with me and they'd get somebody else out there but I wouldn't hear back from them every time. So on the final attempt, the rep was going to call another vendor and promised to contact me about this. She sent me an email at approximately 10:00 in the evening, saying they have contacted another vendor who would contact me in the morning. A different locksmith called me and they were able to get out within a couple of days. I've not been totally dissatisfied with American Home Shield but there's certainly a lot of room for improvement there.

We could not find any place on American Home Shield's website to file a complaint; hence we are doing so through BBB. We would have preferred to first attempt to do so through the company, but neither the website nor the phone maze indicate this as an option. We spent over 3 hours on hold with American Home Shield (Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, 2017). After spending hours on the phone, re-explaining the plumbing problem... we finally reached a representative who authorized that an outside contractor could do the work and they would need to call and submit the diagnosis and estimate. Once the plumber arrived, I was on hold for another hour. Finally we reached a representative who spoke with the contractor.

I had asked for a callback number in case we got disconnected because we could not wait another hour to reach a representative. (According to AHS, the contractor cannot work without pre-approval!). The employee was very upset that we requested a number in case we were disconnected. She said we could call the main number back. When I explained that the wait is over an hour, she was upset and said she needed to talk with the contractor, not me. When the contractor explained that the main line was clogged, she asked if there was an access point. He replied that he did have access and she said that the job would not be covered. My husband got on the phone to ask why it would not be covered, since yesterday 2 separate employees reassured us that plumbing stoppages were covered. She got upset with my husband and said she would only speak with the contractor.

The contractor spoke with her and when she asked for the estimate the contractor was ATTEMPTING to explain that they break down their fees: $135/hour + $50 snake fee and that he estimates the job would be 2.5 hours. Hence, the estimated total would be $387.50. However, the employee repeatedly cut him off and indicated that they would cover $135 (minus our $75 fee). My husband tried to re-explain that $135 was NOT the cost of the job and the employee hung up on him. We hope BBB will follow up with the company. The final cost ended up being $330. Minus the $75 copay would mean that AHS should reimburse us $255. We look forward to a favorable resolution in this regard. We highly recommend that the employee involved receive training on proper phone etiquette and handling of conflict. THANK YOU for your assistance! God bless.

We called the AHS support line 4 times on Saturday to try for another contractor but had to wait on hold for at least 45 mins each time and was hung up on 3 of the 4 times by AHS "support" personnel. Finally got in touch with someone at AHS on Sunday morning and was told I must allow 24 business hours for the dispatched contractor to reach out, which means we could not hear from someone until Tuesday morning... If we do not hear from someone by Tuesday AHS will dispatch another contractor and give them 24 hrs to respond. And the cycle continues!

If this is the type of service I can expect, I WILL be canceling the contract with AHS. Seems like it should be illegal to take my yearly subscription fee and NOT be able to provide a prompt service as stated on their website... I'm not the type to post online reviews, however this may be the only way to get a response from an AHS employee.

I was with American Home Shield about five or six years ago. It was an excellent experience. I had financial difficulty, so I had to let them go. I got back with them six months ago and the service just doesn’t seem to be the same to me. I highly recommended them to a few friends but I was a little disappointed. I have a few reasons why. My refrigerator went out on me and my wife. So I called American Home Shield to get this thing repaired. Submitting a claim was a little bit more difficult than what I expected.

Once I filed the claim, the guy came out. I thought we are about to get our refrigerator fixed. Then he says that it was basically uneconomically repairable. Which is what he put in his report. He left and I didnt hear from American Home Shield. Two weeks have passed and all this time, I and my wife didn't have a refrigerator. They apologized. My claim was lost in the paperwork somewhere. So they said that they need to send another guy out. I'm like, “Okay. That’s fine. I just want it fixed.”

They sent out another guy. He came out a couple of days later. He did the same thing. After reading my contract, I contacted American Home Shield a week later only to tell us that they need to send out another repairman. So another repairman came out. So this is what the problem was. During that time, I've lost $100 worth of food. I went ahead and took that hit. What they did, they authorized me to get a dorm size refrigerator. I did that. It took two months after when I first called in when it was resolved. I don’t know whether to deem it as personnel qualified or not. American Home Shield told me that they need somebody that specializes in that type of refrigerator. But once again, lo and behold, this so-called specialist came out and he echoed the same remarks as the first two repairmen that came out. It was frustrating and the wife wasn’t happy at all. We worked it out.

Our AC went out so we filed a claim with AHS. It turned out it was not or AC but a problem with the electricity. We figured it out because the pool pump went out as well. They sent several people out and the issue ended up being the main electrical line going into the house. We had that fixed and it's working now. They came back out and serviced the air conditioner that wasn't working. They made sure that it had Freon. Submitting the claim was fine. However, it took them a few days to get back to us, which was a little frustrating since it was summer. But once the ball got rolling, things went fine. Their contractors were all good and we were really happy with all of them. It was a good experience.

That was when hurricane Harvey was hitting and it got delayed for one day because of the flooding. But it's summer here in Texas and I can't stay in our house. So, we were out of our house for about a full week. But, they were friendly and helpful throughout that. They just came in and had it all replaced in one morning. They never followed up and they haven’t done their job right. The only time we’ve used the service that has worked out well for us was the pool guy. All the rest has been a very large disappointment. It also takes 45 minutes to wait and to speak to somebody. I can’t get anybody to fix my problem because I don’t have 45 minutes to wait on the phone. You can’t recall somebody out online and you have to call. Overall, when things have been done, it’s been fine. But AHS's customer service times are atrocious.

My experience with American Home Shield has been interesting so far. While the plumbing problem in my house was solved, my electrical problem isn't. What happened was, they found radon when I had the house inspected. Some company came out and installed a radon pump but they wired the switch wrong, which fried my master circuit breakers. Now they're causing problems with the electrical going on and off intermittently.

So, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield because when I call them, I'm on hold forever. They had Lynch Electric come out and look at it. The person they sent fixed the switch on the radon pump and the electricity went back to work until he left. And then, it went dark again. Plus, it added not only just my bedroom and the two bathrooms but also my kitchen to the entire north wall of the house. So I had him come back out again. I found out if I went downstairs and flipped the breakers, it would all come back on.

However, he couldn't find anything wrong when he showed up so he left again. After that, it went dark once more. I left the house dark for several days until he came back. By then, he figured it out that it was my master breakers that were bad. Now, they're supposed to make an appointment with the Board of Public Utilities to come out and pull the meters so he can replace the breakers because they're hot all the time.

Since it is not yet resolved, I'm running the north half of my house on extension cords from the south half of my house. Other than that, American Home Shield has been really good. It's the company they sent that I have a problem with. And while the guy they sent out was really nice and really helpful, Lynch Electric isn't doing their best to get this problem resolved.

I had issues with upstairs plumbing and I put in a request for assistance online. The system immediately put that request out but in the meantime I called the plumbing company to come help as well.

The plumbing company responded the next day and they found the problem and fixed it. They were helpful and they even called up the company itself to order replacement parts for Delta faucets. Eventually the pieces came in to the house and I have them now in case I have another issue with another faucet. However, besides the $100 response fee, they charged an additional $50. I was okay with it once they explained to me what it was for though. Since the leak was upstairs, it meant that water traveled on the ceiling below it. That created another issue, but we got it fixed. I’m satisfied for what AHS did and I’ve recommended them too.

Our most recent claim was about our dishwasher and it was a bad experience.

The contractor who came over didn’t fix the problem and quoted us a ridiculous amount of money to the point where we had to call a regular handyman from our own neighborhood who fixed the problem in a matter of minutes and it only cost us $60. American Home Shield refunded us what we had to pay to the person who was sent through. They are a good company but they could use some improvements in the wait times when calling them. Also, they should pick better service providers because the quality of the contractors who come out is hit or miss.

I've had American Home Shield warranty for years now. Something I learned through trial and error with them is that one needs to read the fine print and be aware that almost always, there's going to be an additional cost to the homeowner on top of what it says on the contract. Several years ago, I had to have my water heater replaced. I live in Southern Nevada, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and apparently, there's a fault line somewhere near here. They required that I had to put earthquake straps on the new model since they weren't code-required when it was originally installed. I had to go out and purchased the earthquake straps to put on the water heater before they'd sign off on it. That was an extra fee above the normal fee that I paid for having to replace the item.

Once I realized what was going on, I've had a much easier time with them. My most recent claim with them was for the outdoor light on my back patio that was malfunctioning. I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield online. I did it in the evening, and the next morning, the company called me to set up the appointment. We set up the appointment for the next day. They came out, looked at the issue and determined it was the fixture. I then purchased a replacement and they put it up and everything was fine. I would recommend AHS to other people because their yearly cost is worth the money in case something really big goes wrong.

Buyer beware: American Home Shield will only provide you service Monday - Friday, unless their system determines otherwise, not the people with brains that work there, but their system that was built to "take all the guesswork out" for their customer service reps. We have had American Home Shield for more than two years, but after today, I am ready to cancel my contract with them. Our heater decided to stop working today, a Saturday, and the temperature outside is a high of 42 and low of 37. The temperature inside of our house is 64 degrees. I called to inquire about expediting our claim to get someone out here sooner due to the circumstances. It took over an hour to finally speak with someone. And when I did I was promptly informed that AHS can only call the company that they have assigned to my "ticket" and see if they can come out sooner.

However, the assigned company has 24 BUSINESS HOURS to schedule a time to come out and fix our issue, and the company assigned to our ticket just happened to be closed today. I was repeatedly reminded by the person I was speaking to that they were following company guidelines and there is nothing else they could do to help me until the assigned company has contacted me within that magical 24 BUSINESS HOURS. I then inquired as to what the company guidelines say in regards to a situation that needed to be handled in less than 24 business hours. The customer service rep told me that she was not able to tell me what their guidelines say. I asked to speak to a manager and was told she didn't have a manager, but could submit a request for someone to call me back, and it could take 48 hours for someone to get back to me.

Surprisingly I was called only a couple hours later by someone else from AHS that was equally unhelpful. I asked this person why I would have to wait until Monday or Tuesday (the 24 BUSINESS HOURS) considering the temperatures currently and expected for the next two days. I was informed that AHS does not deem a non-working heater to be an expedited issue, because their system didn't mark it as so, and therefore they cannot do anything further to assist me. I then inquired about what temperature it would have to be outside for this work order to be expedited. I was told, "Our system does all the work for us so that we don't have to guess. And it doesn't tell us an exact temperature, but I believe that I have seen it happen when the outside temp was 30 degrees."

So what I've been told is that I spend $60/month for a home warranty that is only useful Monday thru Friday, and should I need to have my heater fixed on any other day; i.e. Saturday or Sunday, the outside temperature would have to be BELOW FREEZING! That is utterly ridiculous. I understand that when I actually use their services, they can potentially save me hundreds to thousands of dollars, but since when does things only break during the week? I will be heavily reevaluating my service contract with AHS, and will not recommend them to anyone else.

I called for American Home Shield to come check my furnace and air-conditioner because I was just new to this area and this house. I was having problems with my air conditioning. They scheduled a time and then Miller Plumbing never showed up. A couple of weeks later, I finally called back and rescheduled and then Miller Plumbing called and they said they were very sorry they forgot me. They came the day after I called the second time and I paid the guy that was here. They were supposed to collect $75, each payment in check. I paid and then I was getting notices in my email that I had not paid. I called AHS and I told them I had paid it and it was on a weekend. The rep said, "I'm sorry because I can't take care of it today because I can't call them, it's the weekend. We show that you did not pay." He seemed a little perturbed about it.

I said, "Well, I'll pay. We'll wait 'till Monday. But I did pay." I called the following Monday and they got a hold of Miller Plumbing and that they said all was good. Then I got another email that I had not paid and my account was past due. I called AHS again and I said, "My account should show zero dollars." While I was on the phone, the rep called Miller Plumbing, got back to me and said, "I'm sorry. They said you just paid. So your account is okay."

The technician from Miller Plumbing that was here knew what he was doing because I've had somebody check my air conditioner before but he said he really couldn't find out anything that's wrong with it. It was working after he cleaned it. If I need them again, he's the one that I would like to have come back because he seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing. It worked for two days and then that's when I called American Home Shield because he said he didn't know what was wrong with it. He just cleaned it and everything. Then the guy from Home Shield came out on the 28th and said that it was the compressor. He put a new piece on and it seems to be running fine after that. He seems to know what he was talking about. He just checked the furnace and he said that we're good to go for winter.

But when the two of them broke and I asked the plumbers to come out to change them, it turned out that the policy changes hadn’t gone into effect yet so they couldn’t do the spickets as they weren't covered under our current plan. I had to get those fixed by someone else and I lost $75. I also had a claim for a sump pump repair as something broke. It was the thing that guides the Baldor that tells the thing when to pump the water out. But it turned out that the sump pump was not up to code so the technicians didn’t want to touch it and I had to have another contractor come out and repair it.

The contractors AHS sent were a little abrupt and a little negative about those things. With the sump pump, they didn’t even consider looking at the one thing I wanted them to fix because they just saw that it wasn't up to code. Nonetheless, the contractors told me what I had to do. And although those experiences didn’t work out to my favor very well, everything was fine. The air conditioner was blowing hot air, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I called them probably 15 times over this air conditioning issue and they're horrible. The hold time is an hour to speak to a human. At one point, I did get somebody on the phone. But most of the time, you’re forced to use the automated system. So you can either go online or you’re on hold for an hour and it’s the automated system.

They sent out a kid who is new and has been doing repairs for a little while. He puts Freon in there. Then there was some confusion about the service charge. I knew there was a $75 fee if somebody comes out, but I didn't know who to pay it to and I couldn't get anyone there to tell me. The contractor said that I should pay him and then AHS sent me a bill for it. A month later, it got hot again, so I figured there was a leak. I wanted them to do a leak test, but the guy told me to call back in a month and they'll have someone else come out to do that test. So I had to beg them to do the leak test. Then the same kid never learned how to do it and he told me that it was his first leak and he just put more Freon in it. I have cold air right now, but I still don't think it's fixed. It was a waste of $400.

They were out here three times. The guy at AZ plumbing said that he couldn’t have someone out here until Saturday, so I was expecting Saturday. Then, someone came on Thursday or Friday. So there’s horrible communication which gave me a hard time. American Home Shield was part of negotiation when I bought the house. But they did such a bad job with the air conditioner that now I'm replacing my water heater and I'm not even going to bother with them. Hopefully, we’ll never use them.

I then showed him how everything was freezing in my refrigerator. I didn’t know what he said and he went back. Then, I got a call back that my refrigerator couldn’t be repaired because everything was problematic. So American Home Shield sent Sears out here for a second opinion.

The man came this morning and he found out what was wrong. The icemaker inside the machine and the part that catches the ice weren’t connected tightly so the cool air was escaping into the refrigerator and freezing everything. He repaired that today. The second opinion person called me to let me know what the good man has said about my refrigerator and I appreciate that. And then he gave me a chance to explain to him the repairman error. He listened to me and I really appreciated that as well. I’m very pleased with American Home Shield and I don’t mind paying $48 a month. Also, I already recommended it to a friend.

They came on time as scheduled. However, the problem wasn't really a problem, it was me not knowing how to work my shower. Apparently, the type of shower faucet that is installed is a common cause of confusion. Both knobs push in and not just like the main shower knob.

I thought the shower wasn't working. It turns out, the second knob was pushed in and not pulled out so no water would come out. The plumber assured me that I wasn't the only person that was that dumb because I really felt dumb at that moment. They also double checked just to make sure that nothing else was going on, that that was the only issue there. They tested it a couple of different times, with different combinations with the faucet pushed in and out. It worked fine. They said I had so many days to have them come back out for that $75 call out fee if anything else went wrong with it.

My washing machine broke last September. On September 13th, I called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the rep that I talked to was really sweet. Their contractor then came out to fix my washing machine but he wasn't able to fix it. When I called him the second time and told him about it, he told me that he had ordered a part for it. I asked how he did it since he still doesn't know what happened to the unit but he said that he knew.

When he came here, however, he had the wrong part. He then told me that the unit's motor was gone and that I have to wait until that part comes in, which was going to be a while. I then called AHS again and the rep told me that they would reimburse my money since it's been too long and would send me a check but still haven't received that. I also got a text the other day saying that the contractor got the part and would come on Monday to fix the washing machine. Other than that, I never had any problems with AHS. We've been with them a long time and I would recommend them.

We came across American Home Shield on the website. We saw the rating and everybody was talking positive. I also did a little research and AHS came on top one so I went with the best. The first time we had to use AHS was to fix the AC problem. The rep set up the appointment and gave me the contractor's number. I've talked to contractor over the phone before he came to our house and he said he was going to be here eight hours later. He had a little service to go to and he said that as soon as he was done with the other services he would be here. Sure enough he was on time. He was by himself and he was very professional. He was not afraid to take extra time to go over other things of the AC component system and how to maintain an AC system. Plus he replaced a part. I was very pleased with him. In the future if we have another problem I will love if he will come out here again.

Since I found out my fridge wasn’t working the second day after I moved in, submitting a claim took a bit of time because the contract hadn’t started yet. They hadn’t received the payment from the loan. It took about four days to finally get that active and then I called in and made the claim. The contractor was wonderful and he came out two days after that, which was fine, but my fridge was still broken. American Home Shield scheduled the delivery for October 30th because I need a whole new one. I moved on September 29th and I just had a baby five days ago. I’ve been a little busy so I have not called them. Now I’m scheduled for this coming Monday so I’ve got five days left. So far, this is the only claim that I’ve made and I think American Home Shield needs to be a little faster because a month without a fridge is not okay with me. But I don’t have to pay for a fridge so that’s nice too. Everything else has been fine.

The contractor who came knew what he was doing and he cleaned up his mess when he was done. The leaks were gone and it felt like I had a giant hole in my pipe underneath the floor. It was flushing something else but it's gone and I'm happy. American Home Shield is great. Whenever I've had a problem I call and it's taken care of within two or three days although one time it took a couple of weeks to get somebody in to repair a problem.

They knew my home and they were good people. They did what they said they’re going to do. Prior to that, I had a heating and air company come out who were also provided by AHS. They told me something was wrong and they wanted me pay from $600 to $1000 for an issue that may not even fix the problem. I sought out a second opinion and they came out and just cleaned my unit. It was only a couple hundred dollars compared to $600 to $1000. I was unhappy with that.

Anytime I’ve had to call them, I’d have to be on hold for 45 minutes. They’re always nice when I talk to them, though. It’s a great company. It’s just that you have to wait forever. When the first tech came, he was very nice but wasn’t able to do anything because he couldn’t fit under the crawl space of our house. So, they put me in touch with a different company and that’s when everything just ended up getting pushed back because everything here shut down after hurricane Irma happened. Even if they had wanted to come out, there was no way. Otherwise, it would have been fine. Even with the hurricane going on, they stayed in communication.

Since, the repair, there have been no issues. They’re a great company to deal with because I had to get something from them to get to the City of Sarasota to have the water bill adjusted. They were able to get it to me immediately. I called and their rep had it to me via email in five minutes. I would use the company on my own.

American Home Shield is very decent, and submitting a claim is an easy process. You can go online and submit the claim, and they’ll respond within 24 hours. I prefer to do it online because trying to speak to a representative is time-consuming. When I need help over the phone, it takes a little while to get to them. But the contractors that they sent out have been really good, and very proficient at what they do with the exception of a couple of companies. American Home Shield is very unprofessional and the people that they have as their vendors are horrible. I own 24 houses and I do remodeling. If I sent that kind of vendor to my tenants’ places, I would have about 80% vacancy rate. Also, their response time is terrible and they cancel their appointments all the time. They canceled on my air conditioner for about three times. I'm a tenant and the owner and I have been dealing with this. They may have a really good sales force that sells the dream, but it's a nightmare. We've had several repairs that needed to be done and they have dropped the ball on 95% of them. Our stove is not working and they're going to wait for $675 worth of parts to come in instead of replacing it.

Even their replacement plan is bogus because they replace it and nobody comes to do the installation. We had a microwave that the tech replaced. They dropped off the microwave but now they don't have anybody to come and install it. We're very dissatisfied. It's not a good company and they are so mismanaged, it's unbelievable. They need to go to their middle management or upper management and fire everybody because whoever is running the company and pumping all the money in has no idea that the customer service level is terrible. They have a good platform to operate from and if they get good vendors and they have good customer service and follow-ups, they could make a lot of money. However, based on my experience, I would never sign up with them, ever.

When we purchased our home almost a year ago, our Realtor offered to pay half the fee for the home warranty and so, we researched which one was the best and we ended up going with American Home Shield. I filed a claim for our water heater and getting someone out here was fine. However, the plumbing company that they arranged to come to our house wasn’t the easiest to work with and we kept going around in circles. When we filled up our bathtub with hot water, there would be rock sediments left inside so we’re showering in the sand. It took us so long to get AHS to accept our claim so it was a bit longer than I would have expected.

Also, I did the filing over the phone and I was on hold for at least an hour. I tried doing it online a couple of times but the issue with the water heater was easier to explain to someone over the phone than online. So, usually, I have to call and when I got ahold of customer service, they were good. I had one rep who was rude but other than that, they were nice and friendly. After I’ve called them, it took three days to get a technician. We had a plumbing company that we were using and their reviews online were horrible. So, after talking to AHS, they arranged for a company to come out and do our water heater and it was a smooth process once we got that going.

The technician from the first company was good but I hated the receptionist in the company that he worked for. They are never nice but he was. The company that AHS got and did the water heater was good, professional and very quick to come back and replaced the water heater once it was approved. Once a year is over, we're going to be done but we’re not planning on moving again so right now, we’re here to stay. It was an okay experience but there were a few things that made it a little difficult and the claim could be approved a little quicker.

Everybody said American Home Shield was a good company to go with so now I have been with them for four months already. We have filed a claim for our dishwasher, our refrigerator, and our stove but they’re still not resolved and still not fixed. They have come out about five times and it’s still over the place. I don’t really know what they're doing. They schedule appointments but they don’t show up like they're supposed to. They call me the day before and say they can't make it or they're never on time. He can't figure out what the problem is when I told them all they needed to do was let AHS know that I need my stuff replaced. The company that they're going through won't do it and I think they're milking the company for money. My main issue is my dishwasher and it’s still not fixed by Percy’s Appliance. That was a back and forth between saying it's a plumbing issue and the plumber said it's not a plumbing issue, it's the dishwasher.

Then the appliance guy said it's not the dishwasher, it's the plumbing. So they kept calling some people back and forth. Those guys showed up at my home and they were not in a company truck, just a regular truck. They were not in uniform, just regular sweatpants, and t-shirts. Aaron Plumbing is the same way. They don’t have the name on the side of the truck so I don’t know who I'm letting in my house. They just come and say, “Hey, I'm from Aaron Plumbing.” If you're running a business, you should come to my house in a uniform so I know you're legit. AHS does pretty good at getting me scheduled but the people never come out.

They come when it's inconvenient for me. If I tell them, “I need you to come out here this time or that time,” they don’t want to come out. They even tried to schedule where the plumber could be there and the appliance could be there, but they don’t want to be there at the same time. American Home Shield is okay but they should use well-named brand companies instead of these companies that I never heard of. Send me Maytag or somebody that knows what they're doing.

I give them a call, tell them what’s wrong and they let me know that someone is going to either email me or text me. Usually, their reps on the phone are very knowledgeable. They jot down everything and give me options on who might be coming down.

I also called them when water was leaking from the air conditioner and they noticed that one of their vendors came down last year. I was happy with them so I told them to just send him again. He came in exactly when he said he would be here, remembered me, introduced himself and was very professional. He knew right away and exactly what it was, which was the pipe from the condensation that was clogged. He told me where we clean and where we start, washed the tubes first, cleaned it out and the air conditioning started to work again and stopped leaking. They rectified the situation and everything’s working perfectly now. Overall, I could count on Home Shield if something goes wrong in my house and they would get the situation resolved as quickly as they could. It was a very good experience and I was very happy. American Home Shield was offered to me when we bought the house as the first year warranty. It's in a ghetto and there were so many things they had to fix in the house. It's pretty but it wasn't functional, like they’ve wired everything backward, so when I press on, it turns it off and off is on. They did the plumbing backward too. They got all the PVC copper pipes hooked up wrong. So, we had to get people in there and told them they got to fix all of that. Because we had to keep having them come back, they gave us a year warranty under American Home Shield. I had it for free in the first year and I figured that I wasn’t going to sit, do market research and try to find somebody else if anything broke since they’re already covering me.

So I called them one time and they set us up with a plumber because my daughter's bedroom is directly beneath the shower and when I was taking a shower, it was leaking onto her bed. It goes down through the ceiling onto her bed. The plumber called when he was on his way, came in and although I don't know what he did, it doesn't leak anymore. He was very professional. He told me what the problem was and sounded like he knew what he was doing. It didn't even take him 10 minutes to fix it. It took him longer to take off his shoes. He was also very clean. You would never know he was in there as there was no kind of debris. I was very pleased with him.

Other than that, I find the claim process a little disjointed. If I were Home Shield, I would do it the same way that Angie’s List does where I could say "I need a plumber" and it shows the top five, and as soon as you put in my name, address and what the claim is, that plumber would be calling immediately. But the way Home Shield does it is if I go online, I’d say what I need, and then nothing. I then have to call American Home Shield and they’d say they got it but no one’s going to be available for a couple of days. They gave a number if I wanted to call the guy. So, what's the point of American Home Shield? If it's a pass-through, then just make it so that the plumber gets a direct call. Otherwise, I'm sitting around waiting for two or three days with a leaking upper building.

But still, I'm going to go through American Home Shield because whoever they brought to me was clearly professional and knew what they were doing. I'm very persnickety in the way I like things done. They did what they needed to do and did it well. I would recommend AHS and would trust that whatever else would go wrong with the house, I could call American Home Shield and they would do the same thing.

We’re living in an older home so we decided to have AHS. Recently, we submitted a claim online for a pool filter. When the filter goes, I have to turn the pump off, and at that time, it was in the summer. It took them two days to get a technician to come out here. After he came out, it all fell apart. He came and he was very rude and not very nice. He said that they’re going to order a new filter, so he did, but he never called us back. After two weeks, we finally called him and then he asked if we wanted him to go ahead and order the filter. He was supposed to order that a week ago and we waited for him for weeks.

I called them every day but we could not get hold of him. He was not responsive and not a very pleasant man. The pool was standing still in the backyard for two weeks, without being able to pump. The water was totally green and I had mosquitoes all over my yard. The pool was nasty and that experience was a nightmare. He finally came with a new filter and his excuse was that AHS wouldn’t let him order it. But they did order it, so it took longer for him to come. He said he can’t work in the backyard due to the mosquitoes so he went out to get mosquito spray at Lowe’s. He finally put the new filter on and fixed whatever was needed to be fixed. We had to leave at the time so we told him to do what he needs to do and leave. When we come back, my pool was disgusting so I had to drain it, fill it back with water and put all new chemicals, and that cost me a fortune.

We have never had anybody who was like him and is the only person that we ever had any issues with. My husband wrote an email to AHS when it was all said and done. He told them how he felt about this technician. I’m assuming they got it. There were a lot more expenses to this experience that we never claimed from them since we question if they were responsible for my pool looking like this which I have to drain. We should have filed a claim since emptying a pool and filling it up is an expensive business, but we were so happy that it was done and we didn’t have to deal with the technician anymore. If we have a problem with the pool again, we will not accept them sending out the same gentleman. I was very dissatisfied with this experience. Other than that, everything else has been fine. We had air-conditioner issues before but that was fine. I called it in, they responded and came out. They were also courteous and nice.

The air conditioner on my bottom unit had gone out and was not functioning properly. Submitting the claim was fine because I did it all online. When I do an online request, I usually get the phone number of who's going to come. I then call the contractor every time before they call me since my air conditioner has been fixed 13 times. I've been talking with the contractor for a year now and they are great.

Several times, the AC had broken down. It happened both last summer and this summer. They've come out 13 times in a 12-month period. Last summer, in July, I did not have air conditioning for over a month. The AC went out on a Friday and nothing happened until Monday. Then the contractor can't come for a couple of days. When they come, I have to get AHS and they have to decide what's going to happen and what parts to get. Before I know it, it's been another week. The parts came the following Monday, but I can't get scheduled until two or three days later. It's not the contractor's fault since they have a schedule. I've spent $2500 out of pocket for this unit. I want to replace the whole thing already. I'm just tired of the air conditioner breaking down. I'm hoping that this time is better. Plus, I've also spent money on the upstairs unit.

AHS does not communicate at all. There have been days that I've had to call them and ask for updates about the parts or about what's happening to my account. I either have to call them or call the contractor. However, the contractor can't do anything because they're waiting for the warranty company. For instance, last week, they got the part in. They went to the house, and they fixed the air conditioner. I was anticipating that they got all the parts they required and fixed the air conditioner. Two days later, I texted my daughter and asked if the air conditioner got fixed. My daughter lives there during the week and I'm there on the weekend. She said no and that they're waiting for a part. No one called me and no one said anything. Plus, they charged me an extra $500 that I didn't even know I was going to be getting.

I called the contractor and they said that something else was wrong and they needed to get another part. I also had to pay another $500. We had to wait for another couple of days. Then they came yesterday and fixed it. However, when they left, they left the unit on at 61 degrees. My daughter didn't get home until later because she works in the evening, so it was running for 10 hours. I called the contractor and told them that if the unit burns up, I'm not paying for anything. Also, the unit runs so inefficiently that it has costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars a month. We get a $500 electricity bill and the unit doesn't even run half the time. I would like to be reimbursed for every single penny that I've put in that unit. I would like to also be reimbursed for my electric bill because it's absolutely ridiculous.

I bought some portable air conditioners and told them to reimburse me for the stuff. They didn't reimburse me the whole amount and just gave me $200. I shouldn't have to go through 40 days of no air conditioning. They kept bringing people out but nobody knew what's going on. I need someone who knows what's going on with this thing. It's gotten to the point where I threw my hands up and said, "Whatever." There have been delays, waiting on parts, waiting for a schedule, and waiting for AHS to move. If I was not on the phone with them constantly, I would still not have an air conditioner today. I've already paid for the service. Now I need them to provide the service. I need them to be on top of my claim and get things approved. It's been overwhelmingly frustrating. If somebody just opened the history of this one piece of equipment in this one residence, they would know that something is wrong.

We've been having a problem with the icemaker for almost the whole year. Every time we call them, they'd come out and order parts. Then a company came out and lost the screw. American Home Shield said we had to replace the screw but why do we have to replace it if the other company lost it when they came out? Another company came out and replaced the screw and put them on the ice maker but it is still making noises. And then they said, we owed them $75. But I said, "How do we owe you $75, you never really fixed the problem?" Our stove went out too and then we got to pay another $75 for that. The AHS customer service was okay but they were unorganized. We called a number and then they told us to get in contact with the supervisor about the $75 but they never called us back. Overall, I won't recommend others to go to American Home Shield. I'd rather have them go to somebody else.

Unit leaking carbon monoxide and was told would try to find universal part possibly 7 to 10 days but probably would not work. Technician offered to SELL us unit. Our cost $7500. According to my contract it should be under warranty. And should be replaced. Placed a call to speak to Supervisor was told 30 min would call back. 3 hits later no call. Very dissatisfied.

Wait time to speak to representative is VERY POOR, upwards of 45-75 minutes. Have been a customer of AHS for 15 years. Only used services two other times, with great response time & service. I have had to repeatedly schedule service calls because the plumber either cannot or will not fix the problem. First it was the bathroom backing up. Had to call another company to fix. Now my water heater is broken and leaking. The plumber came out and tried to re-wire the electrical. It only worked for two days, and the faulty wiring sparked and burned up my breaker panel. Called an emergency electrician and spent $600 getting fixed what the plumber messed up because it was still leaking. Waste of money!

I had an issue with my toilet so American Home Shield had a plumber come out. I also inquired about an electrician to come out which I ended up not needing. The claim was easy to submit and I did it over the phone. The rep who assisted was very helpful and said that someone would be contacting me within 24 hours. Then the contractor who came was very thorough, gave some really good suggestions, and did the job in a timely manner. Everything has been good, but I received an email about a claim fee being seven days late. The plumber should have gotten a check that same day. So I reached out to American Home Shield yesterday while I was at work but it was a 30-minute wait time and I didn’t have time to stay away. Still, the service has been excellent.

A dishwasher broke and I called it in but when it started out, they didn't want to cover it. But all of a sudden, they covered it and it was all fine. They were claiming that it was a bad motor but it wasn't and that the dishwasher was abused. If it were, I was going to have to pay for it but anybody who's ever had a dishwasher has had a broken glass in their dishwasher. That's part of the nature of dishwashers. I found out that they were freaking out over a little bit of glass. It ended up not being a big deal but it started out that way.

The first person they sent out was not knowledgeable. He didn't really have the training, the equipment or the parts to do the job so it was a waste of time. But the second person was factory trained and he was really good. He knew what he was doing and there wasn't a lot of drama behind it which felt like it was with the original thing. Ultimately, it was worked out but it was not the employees' fault but the policy of the company, not having knowledgeable people come out the first time and then accusing me of abusing the machine. Both of those disgusted me. We've had the warranty for three years and have all brand new appliances so it was not like we made a ton of calls and repeated every month or year.

American Home Shield sucks. They sent people out to the house, and they diagnosed one problem, and it wasn’t that problem. We got other people out and paid them out of our own funds for what they did to find out what was really wrong. And now, there’s still an issue that still has not been resolved. It has been an ongoing thing for a couple of months. The technicians have been out there at least six times. Jim and Elliott, who are renting the house from me, have been very patient and very understanding. They are the ones that are handling it. Had I been out there, I would have ripped somebody’s head off by now.

American Home Shield doesn’t send the same person out again and there’s a problem with that. If you hire somebody, that company who started should be the same company that comes out and finishes the problem. One person says this, another person says this, and you’re stuck in the middle. And every time, you’re paying money for people to come out and they don’t fix the problem. I’m never buying American Home Shield again. Once I’m done with this year, I’m done with them.

We've been having problems with our dryer off and on, and I had called American Home Shield to have them look at it. Normally, customers like me go through their automatic system. When I call their number, there's never a live person. There’s a series of questions that I have to go through and then I get to hold. Sometimes I can hold for a very short period of time and sometimes a very long period. And once I get someone, I tell them what the situation is and then they tell me who's going to be calling me.

And so, after a guy came out and looked at the dryer, it was going to be a 2-step process. Our dryer was acting up because there's a problem with the electrical unit. We had to have an electrician to come out and look at it. So I called American Home Shield again. The electrician who came was really good and discovered that there was a short in the attic. He got us to call our electric company to come out and fix the wires. And the dryer’s been doing excellent since then.

Everybody that has come out has been really good with the exception of a couple. With the air conditioning situation that we had, we called them out about six times. That started out in June 2016 through almost August. And then we finally got somebody out here. Last November of 2016 was the first time I've used them, and then I've used them all this year. The last time, I had them send out a master technician because by that time I was sick of it. I've been paying for this thing for two years. But as far as professionalism, that's never been a problem. The biggest deal was, a person comes out, and you want to feel as if somebody works on your house and they're telling you your issue, you don't want to feel as if someone is not being as truthful.

So, I've had one person come out for the air conditioning and then had another one because I want fresh eyes and a fresh company. I wanted them to fix it and one person was saying, "We need to do this." But another person was saying something contradictory. That was the biggest issue and it went on for a little bit. And then the air conditioning was fixed. And then it wasn't fixed. And then it was fixed, and then it wasn't fixed. When you have a senior in your home and it's 89 degrees, we have a problem. Also, it was the first time I used American Home Shield and I’m having a problem with the amount of money. When it comes to Freon, it's outrageous. I paid $300 something for that. And then, someone put too much Freon and it had flowed in all the pipes. Someone came to find out that had to melt and that wasn't the issue at all. And then a new one came and said something else. So, I was not happy about that.

American Home Shield is a good company and there are advantages to it. They came highly recommended by my college roommate and I would recommend them too. Every time I call them out, though, I have to pay the servicing. Also, I’ve always paid them a $100 service fee and I don’t know how I went from that to paying a monthly fee of $700. With the electrician for my dryer, I had to pay him to do a service that American Home Shield didn't cover. The problem with companies like this is their definition of wear and tear along with what they do and do not cover. Nevertheless, for single women like me, especially if you don't have a handy guy, you can contact American Home Shield if something goes wrong. You'll feel like you're a little bit in control no matter what time and day because they'll pick any call. They may not get to you until the next day.

I’ve had American Home Shield for the better part of 20 years. At that time they had the best offer and package. I've had no issues with American Home Shield until two years ago. And this year we have had nothing but problems from the customer service people telling you that your claim will be denied because you're not covered when you first call to being on hold for about an hour and a half to get a hold of somebody. It's never been like that. It just started this year.

And the problem is I work from home and I'm on the telephone most of the hours of my day. I simply cannot sit here for an hour and a half on hold so I have to send my husband with the home phone outside and stay here, take the phone and wait until somebody answers the phone. I even sent a letter to the corporate office complaining and I got a call back but I still didn’t get to speak to the person. It's very frustrating because if you call them you'll get a customer service person out there about an hour and a half to tell you one thing then you have to call back to get another one and they tell you something else.

This year they also started a chat online but on many occasions it doesn’t show up on the website and when it does show up you sometimes can't get anybody to chat. If they would improve on that chat that would help a lot with the call volume but they have trimmed the call centers down to a bare minimum instead. But the online chat was actually where I finally got a hold of somebody and they actually had a record of it.

I have an issue still with one of my last claims because they are claiming I didn’t pay the service fee but this fee was waived because it was a second call on the same incident. Besides the most recent contractors we've had have been not as effective. They said they couldn’t figure out what the problem was, left everything the way it was and couldn’t care less. Five years ago AHS used to have a contract with the Sears contractor and I have never had an issue with them. But this year has just been so horrible so they sent another guy out and it was great but now they are fighting me over the fee.

I have two homes with Home Shield but I'm starting to look at other home warranties. They are simply not covering a lot of things anymore and they keep reducing the coverage in the contract. I also discovered now that other companies are actually more competitive and offering more coverage. The contractors have told me they cover like contractors I know, not the ones that Home Shield sends out. They said, “Yeah. We have worked with them and this company and they will not give us any hassle. They will just work with us.” So overall American Home Shield has been very satisfactory until this year and this year I'm seriously considering switching to somebody else and I'm looking at other course right now.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2003 and it's been absolutely horrible. The quality of care has been terrible. I also feel that AHS has become very robotic. I tried to call AHS but you're on hold forever now and it's ridiculous. You can't even get through anymore. It's all animated and you can't talk to any human being. I am very displeased with their service. They used to send me out a little card and the contract. My contract is up in September and I should have gotten a contract but I haven't gotten it yet. They don't send you the card anymore. They don't even know your number unless you have to look at the contract. I don't know if they've gotten so big that they forgot about the customer. There are a lot more companies out there now trying to get my business. I get all kinds of emails now if I wanted new insurance. They came out here on a call that I had made for a repair and the guy was really nice and honest.

When I called AHS, they told me they would do a prevention plan and it was only $59.95. I said, "That's fantastic. I need to get that done.” It was getting cold here in Florida and the air conditioner needed to be checked out. So the guy came out here and he got on my nerves. I said to him that I didn’t want to hear what he was about to say. And he said, "You need to hear because, you know, you have an old system and you're not going to pay for anything.” And that I’m not going to pay for anything until it completely breaks down. And I said, "Well, that's part of the warranty." He said, "Yeah, but you don't understand. They probably didn't tell you this. In your contract, it's probably in fine print. Because your Freon is not going to be around next year and they're going to start charging you. We could do this right now and my company can take care of you."

He went on and on and he irritated me. I said, "Listen, you really irritated me. I don't have any extra money for you today. That's why I have the warranty. In case something happens, if it can be repaired then they'll pay for it.” He said, "That's not covered. They'll make you pay for it." I said, "What are you talking about?" He said, "Well, that company that you're with is not going to pay your Freon. You should give them a call." He gave me a receipt on it and he wrote down in the receipt that I refused him. He said it was about a pound or something short. Yes, I refused him. He told me I would have to pay the $59.95 plus the $75 if I called AHS to let them know that I needed whatever I needed and plus whatever it is to his company. He came into my house trying to sell me. It was the most frustrating, irritating, almost frightful thing that I've ever experienced. And they came back and I paid that out of my pocket for prevention.

I even told him that I was going to call his company but I got busy after that in life. I got pneumonia and I tried to get it fixed. But my point is that I felt that that was really disrespectful, almost telling me I'm stupid to be with AHS because of the fact that I'm being ripped. Anybody knows that this air-conditioner is oldest as ever and it should be replaced and they are just nickel and diming me. He was off the chain. I told him personally to leave and I was so glad he was leaving. And I said to him I was going to get in touch with his company and tell them how he was. But his company has been doing that with all of his clients so it was a way of business for them. You expect that the people that are going to come in are going to do right by you. And when that other guy came from that company, he was nice that's why I let them come here and do that preventative measure.

However, after I thought about it, the guy showed me how dirty the air-conditioner was when he took some part out but he didn't tell me what that part was. The stuff that was on that part was disgusting. And I felt like, "Wow, you know what? The guy that came out here before, he was here for maybe 10 minutes max. Even though he came out here to see what was wrong because I had water leaking from the air-conditioner, he could have taken that off and blown that out. It would be part of the job.” It was clogged up but when the guy took the power off and I saw all that gunk on that piece that he took out, he could have done that when I paid $75. And what I find him doing for all the years that I have been with AHS was very minimal. I said, "But why are you with the company then?" "Because we can get business," he said. I said, "Well, sometimes that's how it works."

He said, “You can get more money for this or for that or some other place with the client representing AHS because they pay you the minimum.” I said, "Really?" He said, "Yes." So that's why they come in here and they really don't do anything and that guy that was here before could have repaired that. There were two companies that came here. There was another guy that came here that was a plumber and the plumbing company was fabulous. He took my knobs and even until today, the knobs in my bathroom sink and my master bedroom don't even work. He took some knobs from the little part of my house and put it on there but they didn't even fit. They'd do anything they can to not do the job quick and easy. And I don't understand that except if they're telling me that they get paid less than what they can really make.

I like AHS and I've been with them forever but I'm very unhappy with the people they're sending out here. And all they do is put this company down and then we feel stupid and then they always try to get more money out of me. They are always getting more money out of me for some reason, maybe because I'm senior and I live alone. The people that come out here are part of AHS because they're working for them but I can't say I don't like AHS.

I waited there all day for them to come and then after 6:00 o'clock I gave a call back and the place was closed. So, I was kind of upset about that because they had me waiting around the house for all that time. I called back and they didn't have my appointment. They rescheduled me but this time they showed up. They got the guy there on time. He was fast and was precise of what he had to do. He did the job very well.

The only problem was the guy who was supposed to show up initially came. He didn't tell the people where he worked at that he didn't report to the job at the site. He didn't let them know anything when I called back about it. They said that he didn't say anything about it. I've been with American Home Shield since August. I've already submitted three claims with them, one of which was for my washer, which turned out horrible. The technician came, looked at it and told me the part that he needed. He ordered it which costs $800. On his second appointment three weeks later, he found out that he got the wrong part. The part stayed at my house for three weeks and it took Sears forever to come pick them up. Two weeks later, he tried to order an additional part but AHS didn't have the parts needed so they just replaced the unit.

The washer should’ve been ordered a whole lot earlier than when they did. I work in the day, so I had to get somebody come to my house and sit for four hours to wait for somebody to come. I was without a washer for a month a half, which was very inconvenient since I had to go to people’s house to wash my clothes for almost two months. I kept getting the runaround and it was annoying. I would still recommend them though. When my dryer wouldn't work, they fixed it. And when my ceiling fan's light wouldn't come on and spark had flown, the technician did something with the wires and it was fine.

The vendor that American Home Shield sent charged me $75 a pound, so I paid $450 extra for the coolant and the rest was for getting rid of things. I paid about $700 bucks for the repair. I looked at it online and I talked to American Home Shield about it. They said that they will set a price and they'll pay a certain amount only depending on what the vendor would charge.

I go mostly online to file the claim because I know who AHS would send. Though, I've called them about some people in the past that weren't good. If a specific plumber that I like won't fit in their budget, I have to pay extra. But, this last group that AHS sent out was really good. They fixed the problem and went above and beyond. They were from out of town, but they had a satellite up here and they do all of American Home Shield's work. Overall I've had AHS for 15 years and I'd recommend them.

Then they sent it to guy and that person evidently doesn't deal with AHS anymore and so they sent another one. The second person showed up on time and everything was okay. He went above and beyond. He noticed that the coils themselves is close to the edge of the yard and blew a bunch of grass into them. He took the extra time and cleaned them for us. I'm really happy with the work. The AC worked for the month after the repair that happened and it worked just fine. I think they have to make sure that their vendor list is up to date.

I've been with American Home Shield for 12 years now and my most recent claim with them was for plumbing and drywall repair. The plumber came and he cut a hole in the wall. We were not told that he would not fix the wall, so we contacted AHS to make arrangements for the drywall to be fixed. I kept asking AHS for a notice, an e-mail or something that said that the drywall will be covered but I couldn't get to the person. They told me that they don't do such e-mails and that they only have a standard form.

They then assigned me a contractor who was out of town. After several days, they told me that it would be covered by contingency coverage. I kept calling them and they've always told me that everything is covered and that they're about to call the contractor, but then all of a sudden, the contractor couldn't do it. In the end, I had to take a cash offer in lieu of services. I was frustrated with the whole process because the house was being sold and it has interrupted that process. I also spent several hours being reassured that this matter was being taken care of when it wasn't. It's also frustrating to get in touch with someone because it takes 30 minutes to an hour.

Do not work with Home Shield. The wait times on the phone to talk to a customer service representative is over an hour. They do not end of resolving any issues that you might have so they are complete waste of money. Very unhappy with their service. They don't contact you back to tell you what is going on. You have to call again and again and again.

These people simply give horrible service and no response. I have been dealing with a broken dishwasher for months now. I call them they send people back out. Never fix the problem. No show appointments. Don't call back. I chase them down again, etc.

American Home Shield had a contractor call me. He came out and looked at my dishwasher which stopped working. He contacted AHS with the part that was needed to be replaced. Because that part was unavailable, AHS replaced the entire dishwasher. It was an excellent service. I looked at their reimbursement option, but the price that they could get the dishwasher for and installed was a little bit less than what I could get it, even at a discount place here in town. So, it was much more advantageous to have them buy the thing itself. Though it took a couple of weeks for the new dishwasher to be set up, it works great. So far, everything has been fine with American Home Shield.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield went horrible. I’ve been dealing with the same problem with my air conditioning unit since May and it’s still not fixed. I was without AC all summer and that was unacceptable. AHS just told me, “Well, there’s nothing you can do about it.” About three weeks ago, I submitted a claim over the phone for it. The rep who I talked to was rude. The first thing I was asked to do was to verify my name, phone number, and address. But then, all of the sudden, the phone was cut off. The service was just awful.

AHS also kept sending me the same people who just patched the problem. Since I was never home when the contractors came out, I decided to take off from work this last time to wait for the contractor. Then AHS finally sent me another contractor that was really nice. But after the service, the AC shuts off and needs some water when it gets hot. I am very dissatisfied with this company. I’m about to go under realty and a lot of realtors deal with warranty companies, so I will make sure that AHS would never be recommended.

I placed a claim for our dishwasher and didn't get a callback. I ended up having to call American Home Shield. There was an issue of getting the claim scheduled, which took a week and me calling to follow that up. AHS had to get on the phone with the provider, which they verbally told me a date on Tuesday and then texted me a date on Wednesday. I missed that, so now I have to reschedule. I'm two weeks out of the last service request, so that didn't go well. I need to call the contractor back as their service was scheduled wrong, and part of it was American Home Shield’s problem. It's becoming irritating and I've seen a slippage in their service.

The dishwasher was something that I had a claim last summer. But then it started working again and they couldn't find the problem. So this is actually a repeat claim that I have, but it's too far away since it's six months out. Submitting a claim was easy but getting it closed is the hard part. I had a couple of other minor issues on there as well that I wanted them to take a look when they were out here. For plumbers and electricians AHS responds well but for the appliances they poorly do.

American Home Shield tried to get my dishwasher fixed in the first try, but it took a while to get it done by three different attempts so we were without a dishwasher for about a week and a half. I filed the claim online for the second visit and for the first and the third, I used the phone. The phone experience was okay as they were always expedient. The vendors that came were two different companies and one came twice.

My issues started probably about a month and a half ago. According to the three technicians who came by, there were three different problems, but I didn’t know why they couldn’t assume that on the first visit. One guy replaced the circuit board and worked for about two days then he got called out again. American Home Shield called a different agency the third time and they said our fuse just went and there was no power to it whatsoever. The two problems weren’t associated but at least they didn’t get a new dishwasher. We went back to hand wash but it was not very convenient because some people would forget taking dishes and that made it double the effort. But in the end, it turned out okay. The dishwasher is still working so I’m happy. I got a 12-year-old house and I only bought the appliance insurance but if I like it, I might extend into the systems as well.

It takes forever to get American Home Shield on the phone. I’m waiting 15 minutes every time I call. That’s 24 hours and 7 days a week so it’s not the best thing out there. However, when I get them on the phone, the customer service is okay and the tech would come about three days after I call. My most recent claim was about a plumbing issue and the techs whom I dealt with was fine. The work was good and everything is still up and running but they were really late. It has been an average experience.

My most recent claim was our dishwasher and the dishwasher soap dispenser that won't open during the cycle cleaning. It was an automated system when I called American Home Shield to make the claim, and the process was really easy and quick. Their online thing doesn’t work every time we enter any information. It says that it's the wrong phone number but there isn’t any place for the phone number to work. The contractor they sent for the dishwasher was okay and I like him but he ordered a new opener and it didn’t work. So, he had to order another part and it’s been four weeks and we are still waiting to get it fixed.

We had another claim that we made before for the oven in our kitchen and I was on hold with AHS for an hour and 20 minutes today. The company that they used is Quality Services and they have done an awful job compared to the dishwasher guy. The guy came, looked and said, “You need this, this and this.” The last man came back with the parts and none of the parts were the right parts. Now, they have to take it out and it's going to be three to five weeks that we don’t have an oven and that’s going to be over Thanksgiving.

We've been with American Home Shield for 10 years now. We had the vent in the bathroom go out before and someone came out and fixed it. The most recent claim I had with them was for my water heater. I tried calling them, but the hold time was so long so I submitted it online instead and did everything via e-mail. It was fine, but since I'm old school, I like to have somebody to talk to. The technician came out after a couple of days since it was towards the weekend. He didn't end up coming on the day he said he'd come and we were without a water heater for a week. He was nice though, but couldn't figure the problem. He then referred to us to somebody else, who came out immediately. That technician told us that we had to get a new one, so we ended up replacing our unit. Overall, they're efficient and I'm satisfied with the experience.

I've been with American Home Shield for a while now. I called them to look at a leak that was on my ceiling. They sent out a gentleman to check the pipes but when he went to the attic, but there wasn't any. He told me that it was from condensation on my air conditioning unit's vent which made sense because there was a vent that goes through that wall right there. I paid for that visit. They then sent out another person for the air conditioning who took a picture of the unit, then called multiple times, and finally said that it wasn't covered. He didn't even look at the unit or anything to see what caused the leak.

I felt like AHS dropped the ball and didn't follow up on any on that. Even the company that came out didn't call. I'll have to get somebody else to come look at it and fix it. I tried to call them about it but getting through is hard. After they had me on hold for 40 minutes every time to get through, I got discouraged. I've told two people that have purchased warranty from AHS that I feel like they won't be covered by AHS if something would go wrong.

My AC wasn’t working so I called American Shield, and submitting a claim was really fast. They sent two guys that were amazing. They just put a green liquid in and that was it. Since then, everything is working well. I’m happy and I will definitely call them again if I have any issue. I know they’re going to treat us well and they’re going to help us with our issues.

We've had American Home Shield for a couple of years. We call them every time we have a claim and they've always sent people who were spot on. Our experience has been great except for the fact that we paid for our last visit and they keep sending me nasty emails saying I need to pay for my last visit. But they automatically charged it to our credit card. This has happened once before. It used to be when the tech would come out, people would pay the tech. And then, according to American Home Shield, there was a lot of instances where the cash never made it to them. So then they started this new thing. Other than that, we've loved them. We had our microwave repaired several times and they completely rebuilt our furnace about six years ago.

The only other issue that we've had with them is that they say our dog peed on our air conditioner and now they don't want to cover our air conditioner. They’ve come out and serviced our air conditioner every summer for seasonal prep and nobody's ever said anything about putting a fence around it so the dog can't pee on it. The handbook says pet damage and I assumed pet damage to be the dog chewed it up. The air conditioner, the compressor out here is about 20 years old. It's about due to be replaced anyway.

And we have this great microwave, a big old GE Profile that quit working. That was about four months ago and the fourth time that they've had to come out for it. The tech told us new ones are not made anywhere close to being this good anymore. And the last time that they came out, we thought for sure we were going to wind up with a new microwave. But they put 400 and something change into our microwave and it works like brand new. Overall, we've been very pleased with them over the years. And we recommend them to people all the time.

I filed my first claim with American Home Shield online when the downstairs air conditioning wasn’t working and it took them twenty minutes to answer my claim. When he was here, he said he'll see me in a month and it was almost a month to the exact date when the other capacitor went out on the upstairs air conditioning. So I called AHS to file my second claim and he was the same guy who came and worked on the other unit. After that, I filed my third claim for the dishwasher over the phone and a different guy came out to work on it. All the reps I spoke with on the phone were very good. Also, both technicians were very nice and fixed all my problems exceptionally well. American Home Shield is excellent and I'm very happy with them.

I've used the contractor that they sent out before and they were very technical. They explained everything that I needed to know thoroughly.
