I had a leak in the water heater, so AHS had to replace the water heater. I called to file the claim and explained to them that my water heater was not working properly, that it had a hole at the bottom of it. They said they would send the recommended company that they would choose out to look at it, they looked at it and I paid $487 for the new water heater plus the $145 deductible.
Their reps were receptive and professional. I called and they said that they'd have to go through ES Plumbing. They would have to use their people to come look at it. However, I had to wait two weeks before they delivered the new water heater, which was tough. We got cold weather here, but I made it. Their demeanor was good. Everybody said we got to make sure everything is put back right, and it's up to code.
Everything is working good now. ES Plumbing put in the water heater, took care of the faucet in the bathtub and they did a good job. I'd recommend AHS. I've never had any problem with them. I've had the policy for a couple of years now but I was a little dissatisfied that I had to pay $625. I thought it might have been a little bit less but I'm glad AHS took care of it. I received a very efficient company to take care of it. I thought the $145 deductible was fair. I just thought the extra $487 that I paid was a little deceitful.

American Home Shield is a good company and I'm glad that I have them. I'm on my third year with them now and I have recommended them to several people who now have them as a warranty company. American Home Shield covers plumbing, electrical, and major appliances and having their home warranty is the best investment one could ever put their money into, especially because things happen. A homeowner already has got to worry about utility payments and it's so much stress when an appliance goes out. Our AC went out in August and it was inconvenient because it was hot then. I contacted American Home Shield by phone to submit a claim and everything was fast and went fine. Everything was good with the representative who took down the information. The next day, we had a contractor show up and he went to the unit and fixed it. He turned on the AC unit and everything works fine. I was happy.

We had a unit that froze up and it wasn’t cooling. I originally submitted the claim online and I got a response from American Home Shield that they were assigning the repair to Air Boss. That same unit was worked on 50 days before by Ace Air Conditioning. So, I called American Home Shield and told them it was a recall because it was not in the tune of 60-day window. Then, AHS reassigned it. The contractor came and did the work. He was terrific and very engaging. He explained everything that was wrong, showed me the bad parts, and did us a very thorough job. He even cleaned up after themselves and left. I’m telling my sister to get American Home Shield as well.

I just moved to the States. I’ve been in Germany for 40 years so I’m learning the process. Initially I was calling American Home Shield because I thought that’s what I needed to do and the wait time was lengthy. But as I learned, I was on hold for 50 minutes and before I could explain what the problem was the guy said, “We’re open 24/7, you can submit a request online and all that.” I like the online service request a lot. That’s much easier now that I do it online unless I have to talk to somebody because sometimes I don’t know who I need. They’ve been very responsive, friendly and customer service oriented. I’ve had to ask them some questions because I haven’t lived in the States for so long and they really clarified this and that. They’re very knowledgeable and professional. I’m very pleased with my American Home Shield experience. Everything has been wonderful. I’m also very pleased with the contractors as well.

I wasn’t really sold with AHS but I had to renew with them because there weren't any good choices, including them. I timed my calls with AHS and each and every time, I was on the phone for over an hour just on hold. You shouldn’t have to wait that long every time you call, several times in a week. If you have to purchase a plan from them, there's no problem getting to talk to someone. But if you have an actual problem, you can’t.
Also, claims are not always uploaded to the computer like when I had an issue and it said that I didn't have a complaint or a concern on there. The only option at that point is not to email someone about the problem but to make an appointment. You can't even request to have them call you at a certain number. They don’t have a phone number saying your call would be on hold for more than 30 minutes. They only ask if they should call you back or if you would like to stay on hold.
And when I spoke to someone one time, she was upset that I was on the phone with her for about half an hour when I was on hold for over an hour. Each time she asked if I had any more concerns, I gave her a concern after talking about the first one, I had five concerns then. So I’m not really thrilled with American Home Shield.
I still have an outstanding balance of more than $125 from I don't know where. I spoke to someone about it and she said it would eventually go away, but she said I would have to wait for 14 days meaning if it’s still on my billing in 14 days, I would have to call again and waste my time. I’m a busy ER doctor so I don’t have time to call people all day long.
Also, because of their lack of repair, I had to go shower in my neighbor’s house. AHS would say someone was going to call me back within 24 hours but nobody did. They never answered the phone after 3 emails and I left a couple of messages. By the time I got in touch with someone, I was told that they canceled my order, replaced it with somebody else and had no one until Monday so there was a whole weekend in between.
I understand your concerns with AHS and the multiple issues that you have experienced from long hold times to a lack of repair. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my AC. I had somebody coming in for a reunion on that Saturday and they didn’t have emergency people to come out and fix it. I didn't like that. I know they have an emergency HVAC personnel, but it seems like they go for the cheapest route and that they're trying to save money. It was hot that weekend so my whole upstairs was hot and I had roaches there. I had to wait until Monday but when. It's been a month and a half and as of today, it still is not fixed. Another issue I have with them is getting a hold of them. You stay on hold forever, which I don't understand. I won't be continuing the service and I definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone else. I was very disappointed.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

The garbage disposal sprung a leak as part of the unit cracked and so we submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. It went smoothly and within an hour we got a response from the selected vendor. They followed up and set an appointment. Everything went as scheduled and the unit has been good since the repair. I’ve got the protection plan on two properties and my overall experience has been good. Our challenges have been fairly consistent in the HVAC. We’ve had two plumbing and two HVAC and one of them wasn’t covered which was fine. They were kind enough to dispatch a technician. However, my wife likes having all of the information and so when they assigned a local company that she’s never heard of, she jumped on the internet and searched for that company. Home Shield could take this as a marketing opportunity by providing a little background information.

Sometime in November, the drum inside my washer stopped moving so it wouldn't spin clothes. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it's not really hard. However, there's always an hour wait over the phone if you have a problem. And then, when you finally get through, they send someone out. But the guy was in my house for just two seconds and then he left. He said that they will order the part. I looked online on my account and it said, "part ordered." Yet, nothing was heard from the company or AHS for days.
I finally called them and after an hour of waiting again, they told me that the contractor denied my claim because I broke the washer but I didn’t. It's ridiculous. They said they’ll send someone else out to take another look at it. That took days. Finally, someone came out and he said that they will find out what the problem is, and then they will order the parts. Days went by and we never heard back. I called American Home Shield again and after an hour of waiting, they told me that the parts aren't available anymore so they will instead give me a new washer and dryer. I have a problem with calling every time and being on hold for an hour and then getting rude people on the phone. And on top of that, there’s no communication without me calling in to find out what’s going on. Nobody’s calling me to say what's going on. It's not very good and something is not right.
They find are the bottom-of-the-barrel people. They do not hold those contractors accountable for anything. For example, when the guy said my parts were on order and then the next thing you know, my claim was denied and nobody could ever answer how it was done. Also, they gave me a number to an appliance company to come out and that company wasn't even in business anymore. It seems that nobody’s following up with these contractors that they have on their list. The representative from AHS would say that they will call me, so I waited but nobody called. I called back to say that nobody called and they told me to try calling them again. Instead of them calling, I called the contractor myself and that's when I found out that the company wasn't even in business anymore.
It’s just a sad situation. I've seen everything online and there is not one positive comment on there for AHS. They’re all horrible complaints and mostly about on hold time and customer service. One lady that I spoke with on the phone basically called me a liar and that my concern is not in her system. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said none was available. I had to wait for somebody to call me back. Frustrated, I hung up the phone and I just called back later to speak with a really nice lady. She told me that none of my conversations with the previous representative were in the system. I'm sure she didn't note that because she didn't want her name.
So far, AHS sent me an email to give options for the replacement of my washer. I'm working through that to see if I'm going with whatever they provided or just buy my own and get a cash reimbursement since it’s not the same color and it’s hard to tell online if it’s really the kind of washer that I want. They said that once I send the receipt they’ll give me the cash back for it. But until they straighten their act up, I will never ever recommend them to anyone. While having a home warranty is a good idea because if things break down, you want protection. It's ridiculous that you have to jump through hoops and do all of these and deal with people's attitude just to get your stuff done when you’re paying for it, which is awful. I'm their client.

I only made two claims with American Home Shield. The first contractor I used got my toilet fixed quickly and it was perfect. Everything's been easy but I didn't understand my last claim when I had my heat pump fixed. I paid $75 for the technician who came out here but he didn't fix anything. He said I needed refrigerant and told me that the consumer has to pay $10 to him for a pound of that refrigerant which I didn't know. He even said the insurance didn't cover that. I didn't have cash at the time and I just had my card so I couldn't pay him. Then, I talked to the lady in AHS and she said that they just fix whatever’s broken and they don’t do refrigerant. She even told me that the contract indeed indicates that the consumer has to pay $10 per pound. The heat pump has never been fixed and if I knew, I’d have the money ready for the technician so as not to waste his time either.

Our dishwasher wasn’t working a couple of months ago so I went online to submit a claim and then put the claim in. The reps were quick at getting it taken care of. American Home Shield sent a contractor who was knowledgeable and good. Then, we had a second problem with the fuse of the dishwasher and it got fixed yesterday. Everything’s fine since the repair but AHS charged me the two times the dishwasher was fixed. I paid $75 the first time and when the dishwasher broke the second time, I paid another $75 fee. AHS is busy and has a lot of other people they’re dealing with but they were good. I appreciate the way they handled everything and we’ll probably renew their service.

I was on hold nearly an hour. While speaking with a very pleasant rep. I was disconnected. I had to call back again and was on hold again for over an hour. Again the rep was very helpful and pleasant. He informed me the first rep had resolved my issue, unbeknownst to me. I have to commend the employees, however the management seems to be very poor. They need to have an auto return your call system when the wait times are outrageously long. They also need to do work on their website and have an area to write comments and needs. A further review may be coming after my repairs are completed.

We have been with American Home Shield for years. This past year or so the service has completely gone downhill. The service is the worst. AHS sends out a technician from a company and then there is absolutely no follow up. We had a problem with our stove top on October 10, 2017. Today is December 1, 2017. RC Appliance came out and I don't know if they never communicated with AHS and dropped the ball or visa versa.
I called them again this AM and have been on hold with AHS for one hour and 45 minutes. This nice lady is working to fix the problem finally. But now I have to talk to a supervisor about the issue. So, we will be without our stove top until this is resolved once again. I don't love to cook but almost two months is ridiculous. I will be looking for another Home Warranty Company for our rental properties and home once this is resolved (hoping it shall be!). Terribly disappointed with how the company has gone downhill. Be careful when you sign up for American Home Shield!

I have been a long time customer of American Home Shield and their service is terrible. Besides the fact that each call into customer service has a wait time of a minimum of 30 minutes, my last two claims involve contractors that show up on site to just collect their service fee. Each contractor told us that they will never complete a job and that it is worthwhile for them to show up for 5 minutes, review the issue and notify AHS that the problem is not a warrantied item even though it is. For example, with my current claim, the contractor said that he did not want to do the job and that he was going to tell AHS that our AC/furnace was not installed incorrectly.
He said that this way he would get paid and it he would not have to do the work. However, we mentioned that the unit was installed by a licensed contractor and approved by the township that it was installed properly and that we have proof of that. The contractor said that was true but he didn’t want to complete the job and he just wanted his fee. AHS’s customer service people continually mention that they are not licensed contractors and need to listen to the contractor’s review on the issue. There aren’t any supervisors or anyone in corporate that will handle this. Shouldn’t they know what kind of contractors they are requiring that we use?
We still have a faulty unit and now I am required to pay an additional service fee for a second opinion who, if he’s like the other contractors associated with AHS, will deny any work to be completed. How unprofessional. All consumers need to be made aware of this company and the high risk you will endure if you try to utilize their service.

I submitted a claim for my AC unit, and American Home Shield did a great job. Their representative was really good when I called them, and the contractor that they sent to fix my unit was also very good. He followed us up, and also let us know that they were coming 30 minutes earlier. He was also very polite, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain that the fan went out and that he would have to order one and actually checked where to get the part quicker. Our AC is fixed and it’s been performing great ever since.
AHS, as well as the company that they used provided good service. It was a really good experience, and I’d recommend them. In fact, my son and daughter had different home warranty providers, and they both switched to American Home Shield. AHS does not give you the runaround when they come out. They find contractors that actually know what they are doing. The ones that went to my daughter and son’s house, were paid the same amount of money that I paid AHS, but then they fixed nothing at their house because it wasn’t covered or whatever under their home shield.

American Home Shield sent somebody out for the refrigerator. He looked at the problem but they sent the wrong part, so I ended up waiting for a month for the repair. It was not the best experience. I was able to file a claim with anyone I called from American Home Shield and they have all been nice, polite, courteous. And they've always got someone out here quick. But the first time my dryer went out I used a company I was totally dissatisfied with. It took them forever to get the parts and it took them forever to fix it. And it didn't sound right when they did fix it. It lasted a couple of years and then I had to file another claim.
The contractor came right out and told me that he had to order a part and the part came in a couple of days later. He came out and he fixed it. It's running now. Also what I did like that they did was now you don't have to pay the supplier when they come out. You can go online and just put in your card and be done with it. I would tell my friends to go for American Home Shield. I didn't believe any of this stuff either until my oldest brother told me to get it done. So I did it and I'm glad I did.

Yesterday, I was on the phone for quite a long time speaking with somebody from American Home Shield. I have four claims and I know that now, instead of me paying the service technician when they come, they'd rather use a credit card. That’s the latest thing they want to do. However, the first claim that I had was with a heater service. I wrote them a check and it’s already been cashed. Then, I had another claim with the plumber so I wrote him a check. But he called me back and said that they didn't take checks anymore. He also told me that he was going to rip it up and they’re going to just take the payment off of my credit card. I had two other claims and for the very last one, I wrote a check yesterday. I put it in the mail stop today, Sunday, and it won’t go in until Monday. But the lady that I spoke with yesterday said that some of these checks have to go through the bank before American Home Shield gets it, so it’s taking them quite a long time.
When I submit my claims with AHS, I call them and most of the time, I talk to a recording. Then the machine would come on and say that so and so has been assigned to me, that my confirmation number is blah, blah, blah, their phone number is that and I would be hearing from them soon within 24 or 48 hours. I've been carrying AHS for 17 years now and 75% of the time, the contractors they sent out were very good. I'm satisfied with them. AHS seem to be knowledgeable with the contractors that they use and what they do to get me the person to do the job is fine. But I hate the fact that I have to be on the phone so long to talk to somebody I wanted to for 15 to 20 minutes whenever I call in. That’s horrible.
I would first like to thank you for being a customer of AHS for over 17 years. I understand your concerns with the long hold times and I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My most recent experience with American Home Shield was last month. We called them and I got a technician to go see our dryer. They said there was an unusual dent in the dryer, inside the drum and that it can't be fixed and it can't be replaced. So, I got to come out of pocket to buy my new dryer. That's my worst experience with American Home Shield. I honestly thought you are taking money from my account each and every month thinking that I'm covered, no matter if it's replacement or if a technician will come out there. It's going to take money out. Or you can get a second opinion.
The contractor that they sent out was very professional. When he came to the house, he did everything. He looked inside and said, "Well, that's the problem. You got a hole in your tube. I'll let them know now. For sure, there will be a contact with you. But besides that, whatever they tell me what to do, they'll be in contact with me and I'll just come back." But that guy never went back. AHS got a guy in contact with us so, I said, "Well, we'll wait an hour." But I waited an hour and 43 minutes, to be exact before somebody came on the phone and we discussed the problem but they couldn't help me. To this day, I'm an honest customer, still paying. In the past, they did help me out. It's just that my last experience with them was unsatisfactory. I'd tell others to be careful what AHS tells them. Listen, pay attention and ask a lot of questions.

The last 2 claims I had with AHS were for my air conditioner but they were two different issues. One issue was that the duct work in the house had a gap in the opening and it was making a loud sound when the air went through it which was called the air handler. It was bowed out a little bit because my husband and I went up there and looked to see if we could figure out what was making that sound. And so, the guy came in and he had to drill some holes to rivet and close that gap so that it wouldn’t make that sound. The pan that collects water underneath the air conditioner had filled somehow. The insulation had floated into it and he cleaned that too.
About a week later, the air conditioner wouldn’t cool, so we’ve made another claim. It took him a while to come, because the first time, he came right away, but the next time, there were a lot of people on the list. I was without air conditioning for four days. Some people were asking why I didn't call so and so down the street. I said that I’m with AHS and I have to use their people. When the same guy came, he found a wire that had come loose on the air conditioner outside the house and he soldered it back on. He was super nice, well-mannered and professional. He got right to the job, took care of it and got on with his day as we get on with ours. We were confident with him and we appreciated him getting everything done right away. And as far as I know, the air conditioner's working right now.
Then within the last month, I had three things break and four services called altogether. I had my dishwasher broke which was a minor thing. The guy that came out said that he can't fix it and told us to call the company since it’s under some kind of warranty that had to be fixed before they could work on it. Once the company did that, the problem was resolved. The contractor didn’t really work on it but he got paid $75, and the guy who came out and repaired it was paid by his company. The other thing was the dryer that had a belt problem. It was $75 which would have probably been $150 if I didn’t have the Home Shield.
Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield was easier than calling because sometimes I have to wait on the phone for a really long time for a representative. And I’m still iffy about their customer service because I was getting a service for $75 and I’m paying them $70. The work that I’ve had done would have cost not a huge amount of money because neither time was it anything big. That will really save me whenever I have a big problem that costs thousands of dollars. And I’m hoping it’s going to pay off later on. However, it's not outstanding since I didn’t get any new appliances. All of my appliances are 13 years old and I don’t know how long they can be repaired. But I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. We’re not leaving it and promise to stay with it. And I have and would recommend AHS.

My heating and air-conditioning went out so I filed a claim to American Home Shields over the phone. My interactions with their rep were fine, however, there was a two-day lag before they sent out someone but it wasn’t very long. The time was reasonable. It's just that at that time it was cold, so I really needed the heat. The technician came out and found the problem and fixed it very, very quickly. He was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and explained exactly what he was doing while I was watching him. Apparently, the issue was some kind of blockage that had blown in the vent. He cleaned it from some of the debris that had gotten caught in the gears and everything was fine after that.
When I first signed up for these services, I had to simply give the technician my deductible when they got to the house. I used it a couple of times and I was able to pay the technician the $125 when they came and fixed certain things in my house. I may have had four things fixed in my home since I’ve been with the service. And every one of those times I was able to give the check for the exact deductible amount to the technician. However, I was a little put off last time when they said, “No. You have to pay the deductible upfront.” So, I had to pay the provider the deductible over the phone via credit card. I wasn’t allowed to do a check and I paid an additional premium in tax. They taxed the $125, which made my total deductible about $134, which was not in the contract that I originally signed. I know it’s not that much money, but it was taxed, and that was not the way it was for my previous usages.
So, it made me think that either the services are going down, the company might be going out of business, or there’s something wrong with this overall protection plan that I have. So, it made me start to think if I need to look for another company to provide these services since this company now is charging me my deductible plus tax. I did make a statement about it and said, “Really? I’ve never paid tax on my deductible before.” And they said that in North Carolina they were now supposed to collect the tax on the service deductible. I have deductibles involving my job with my client, and my client, as far as I know, doesn’t have to pay a tax on their deductible.
I wasn’t dissatisfied with the service that the technician delivered but I was very dissatisfied with the way I was charged. Had they told me upon signing up that my deductible is going to be plus tax, I might have chosen a smaller deductible rather than the $125 that I did choose. The technician did a great job and got it up and running fast. But overall, I was concerned that maybe I need to find another company because the way that it was handled didn’t seem professional as it was in my previous encounters. It’s a minor issue, but it’s still an issue.

But I felt like I could trust SWAT Plumbing and then, American Shield was there, responsive to that first problem where it was a water heater problem and it was addressed. So far, I've been very pleased and I've already paid for next year.

We lived in many states and have used American Home Shield for many years. We've always been very pleased with them and everything has been an A+. We always call on them for any claim then they talk to a person and it's good. But technicians were supposed to come yesterday for our microwave claim but they ended up not coming so we had to reschedule that. They needed another guy to list out the microwave oven then to install a whole new computer board. But they had a hustle and they'll be coming in two weeks. Other than that, I recommend AHS to friends all the time.

My dishwasher wasn't drying. But the problem was that the dry button wasn't on. So, for $100, American Home Shield had the button pushed and we were all happy. The next claim was for the thermostat. The little button came on and said it needed something, but all it needed to do was be reset. Submitting those claims were great and the guys that came out were very nice.

We recently bought a house seven months ago and our heater and air conditioner unit stopped working. We were told it wasn't repairable and a red tag was put on it. We needed to change the unit to a new one because it was a hazard. Everything started on August 28 and it took more than a month to fix the problem. The first contractor that American Home Shield sent me, that was the worst experience in my life. The company was Prime Master and it was awful. They had no manners and didn't have any customer service.
American Home Shield declared an emergency since I am living in the high desert in California and by that time the heat was 106-110 degrees. And I had my 14-month-old son and 85-year-old mother-in-law with dementia at home. That was hell for us. I was sitting on my porch crying and asking my husband what we were going to do. We contacted another company but we would have had to pay $10,000. But why would we pay somebody else when we had a home warranty.
American Home Shield had nice people who were very polite. They listened to whatever I had to say and they tried to help me. But they didn't do anything fast and by that time, I was so frustrated because I needed to have the problem resolved. They told me many times that the contractor would call me in a week but they never did. I called the contractor but they told me that they were busy and they yelled at me. They wouldn't let me speak to a manager too. They also told me that I didn't speak very good English and that I had to call the office to explain to me what happened. I have a heavy accent but that was no way to talk to a customer.
So I called American Home Shield and told them to change my vendor because I couldn't deal with them. I didn't want the company in my house. AHS told me that changing vendors would take more time but I didn't care because the first one was not treating me with respect and were not professional. The experience with the second company, Sawyer, was night and day. They were very professional. There was a lady on the phone who was so sweet. And in a week, I had a new unit. We had to pay some amount from our pocket, around $2300, for the unit because American Home Shield only covered some of the expenses. But they were very nice and they help me with the permits.

Our dishwasher's connection to the water line wasn't working properly. Submitting the claim online was easy and the next day, somebody from American Home Shield called me. They were touching base to confirm how things have worked and to ask me about the service needed. Within 24 hours of that initial call, I had an appointment set up. The contractor they sent out was very respectful, efficient and informative. He told us what he was going to do and what was needed on the machine. He confirmed that they needed to order a part and that somebody would be calling me to come back out and put it on the dishwasher and connect everything up.
When I called to get this service set up, they told me that the ticket wasn't open and that they needed to send somebody back out to check what was needed. That's a problem I'm hoping that wouldn't happen again. But we haven't had a call back about anyone coming back out yet and I'm still waiting for someone to complete the job.

I found that submitting the claim online with AHS is great. Once I logged on, I do everything there and I also I like the option to be able to chat with someone online. That makes the process a lot quicker too. But when trying to do it over the phone, the wait times are ridiculous. The first time when I had to call in for our dishwasher, it was a 40-minute wait. But when I get someone, it's pretty good. Recently, I filed claims for our refrigerator and a rain shed.
The only thing with AHS was there were a couple of issues with the last repair company that I wasn't too pleased with. American Home Shield changed their policy for collecting the service fees up front and I wasn't aware of that. When the repair guys came out the first time to diagnose everything, they took our credit card information and wrote it down on a paper which wasn't protected. If we or the repair company were to lose the copy, our entire credit card information, CVV, billing code would all be there. Other than that, the contractors sent to us were good.

I have a couple of things that I’m not a 100% satisfied with. The technician was a good guy but he turned the hot water the wrong way. The second thing is that faucet is like 35 years old and he was saying, "It’s going to leak again." It’s a temporary fix the way I look at it. So he came out and it’s not leaking right now. But it’s just a matter of time that it’s going to happen again.
And I asked him to replace the faucet. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy or expensive to get this faucet fixed but it needs to be permanently fixed instead of just put a bandaid on it. The representative just said that if they are able to fix the problem right there they’re not going to do anything else. I understand that to a point but we already got a history here. We got the same problem twice in less than a year and it’s because the faucet is just worn out. But I would recommend AHS.

A couple months ago one of the AC was not producing cool air. When the service technician came out, he took care of that but he discovered that there was another issue with water in the pans. I should get the transfer of the tickets, so someone came out. All in all, they did a good job. The cause was properly diagnosed and the installers for the AC coil were very competent, professional and very efficient. They knew what they were doing and were quick, and I appreciated that. They also added value by giving suggestions and recommendations on other products and things that I can do to enhance the air conditioning experience.

I’ve been a long-time user of American Home Shield and I generally like their service. The people from Bear Plumbing they sent most recently are fantastic. But the biggest issue is I cannot reach AHS on the phone. And so, when I call and do an automated thing, they send somebody of their choice automatically. And the first people they sent were from On Time Plumbing, which I did not want. But on the second call, they were gracious enough to give me a second opinion for no additional charge, and it was fantastic. Also, I understand prices go up but American Home Shield gets a little costly and their fee of $75 now is almost getting close to what the fee is for anybody to come out, and it won’t cover parts and labor.

Submitting a claim for the fan over my stove with American Home Shield was very long, and the people didn’t call me back, so I called them, and it was like I woke the lady up. She just said, “Okay, I’m up” and then hung up. So, I waited a week and called American Home Shield again. It took 30 minutes to get through to them and that is my biggest complaint. They always put me on hold. But I got through to a lady and she was very nice. She set me up with someone else but I never heard back from them either. So I called back to American Home Shield and told them about it. She thought it was somebody in Auberry, a little town that I live by and said the original people that they had set it up with would take a month.
Finally the guy came and he was really nice. He said he didn’t have to take out the motor. We got another motor, came back a week later and put it in. I'm retired now but if I was still working, this would have been a big inconvenience. It was a long and ridiculous process, but the vent's working fine now. Prior to that, another company from AHS put a new kitchen faucet in for me and they were wonderful. However, they need to have more local people in our area because a year and a half ago, they sent an electrician who came from 90 miles away which was weird. And I live not too far out of a big town. American Home Shield send out service people that they don't pay well, so I get the bottom of the barrel.

We started turning the heat on in our house, but it was blowing cold air. The thermostat wasn't working right, and there was also something wrong with the venting outside. It's not American Home Shield's fault, but they were backdating our coverage for May when we bought the house, so we only have a little over six months left. There was a lot of confusion about our claim.
When we closed Escrow, I tried to call. AHS didn't have any coverage for us, but it was in our transaction that we would have them for a year. I called my realtors and they called Escrow, and apparently, they sent the money to AHS but they didn’t ever send in other information that AHS required to set up everything for us. So while AHS had the money, whoever was in charge down here at the escrow didn't send them the rest of the paperwork that AHS had asked for.
The rep over the phone when I submitted the claim was professional. The service provider did the best that the contractor thought they could do without going into huge expense for the company, but he was pretty sure that he got it good. Anything the contractor did, he cleaned up. He was so careful about his shoes, our home, or letting our dog out or no. He was so patient and professional about everything, and so polite. I was really impressed with this guy. However, the heater didn't work, and he said we have to call the service provider in. They were wonderful. When I called back, they said, "Thank you for letting us know. Can we come out right after 1:00 o’clock? Is that okay with you?” I didn't expect that. It's been a few weeks now since the repair, and everything's great.
I had my own property management company for 28 years along with being realtor for longer than that, so I dealt with American Home Shield a lot. Their contractors were really awesome. I was mega impressed by them. I would put these guys at AHS right at the very top of my list of excellent providers, and I would use them all the time. I'm glad we have AHS and we're going to get it again when it’s up.

We called AHS in for a repair of the refrigerator, and it was not a great experience. I put my notes away because out of frustration. I Initiated a call on a Sunday, and we were told we'd be contacted within 24 hours. First Monday came, no one contacted us. So, I called the number, and I was on hold for about 30 minutes to get to a representative. I put in the request, then she gave me a claim number. She said, "Someone else will get back to you maybe by Thursday." I said, "So, I have to go five days without a refrigerator?" She said, "I didn't realize it was a major appliance". So, she ended up switching it to somebody else and they would contact me. I let another 24 hours go and no one contacted me. Called again to the 800 number and I waited online for another half hour.
She located someone else, but they weren't able to come out 'til the following Tuesday. Hence, I went eight days without a refrigerator. So, then I followed up with the contractor and made the appointment and so forth. So they came out on Tuesday and he was here for about half hour or forty minutes, and he fixed the problem. I was very satisfied with the actual person who did the work. But the whole situation has made us rethink the warranty.
I would like to apologize for the delay in service you experienced to have to refrigerate repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and discuss the issues that resulted in the delay.
Thank you,

But the guys that American Home Shield sent out to work on our cooler wasn't very good. The motor that they put in makes more noise than the low-speed motor we had in there. We asked for the service from American Home Shield and filing the claim on the phone was not good because of the wait time. The first time I tried that, it took one hour and 15 minutes. That was for a garage door problem and they helped me with that. But doing it on their website was really easy and awesome. When I had to talk to their reps, I had to explain my problem and they were very helpful. It took less than a minute to complete the whole process and it was efficient. They gave me the vendor's name then the next day, I contacted the vendor and they contacted me as well. We made the appointment then they came yesterday and fixed it.
The contractors who came out for those two claims were both professional and knew what they are doing. The first one for the garage door fix was very friendly and I really liked that. The second one was knowledgeable but we had a personality mismatch. When I asked him for a recommendation, he was a little cold or not very polite. But that was his personality. In terms of doing his job, he was excellent.
So far, AHS have addressed our claims correctly. But I wanted to know a bit more about how can you bundle and pay less. For example, they said that if I have multiple claims in the same category, like for microwave, fridge and dishwasher, I would pay the $75 deductible and they would address them all for this bundle. But when I was playing with their website to see what can be saved in case we need to wait and request maintenance at the same time, I tried to choose the bundle option for my garage door and the website said I could not combine it with any claim under any other subcategory. So that guideline was not clear to me.

I had a clog on one of my rental houses. Claiming submission to American Home Shield was actually one of the easier. I haven't had great experiences with them, but this recent claim was pretty decent. I wasn't too happy when the contractor came out for my hot water heater especially because that's one thing that they claim that they are really good at fixing. He told me that basically, unless it's rotted, that they're always going to look for a reason not to replace it, and I found that very disheartening. He basically said I need to call them, and pay it out of my pocket because American Home Shield is not going to fix it. He took my $75, and basically said turn off the temperature and you're on your own.
And to call them, and tell them that, "Hey! This is what your contractor said!" Nobody listens to you. If somebody said that about my business, I as the owner would want to know why. They were just very nonchalant, so it leaves me to believe that the contractor was absolutely correct. They are very interested in taking my money, but when there's a problem, they're really not going to fix it. Considering I've had them for three years, I don't know if I'll be paying again to renew it next year. However, when they make changes, some were for the better. For example, they made it easier where you now pay the service call and you should not have to give it to the technician. But, then again, they didn't communicate it to the plan people, or the people that were taking your money. They need to make sure everybody knew. The people who answer the phone are mostly really good too, and they do have some great customer service.
I understand your concerns with the plumbing issue that needed to be repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

It’s great having the peace of mind that if something goes wrong, I have coverage for all my appliances. When someone has to get coverage for all individual appliances, that’s quite expensive, and that all starts chunking up. We've been with American Home Shield for close to a year now, but we also had them when we were in Maine for 13 years, and I was very happy with it. It was nice to have all of our issues covered without having to go out there and try to individually pay for them, which is quite costly. Given that comparison, it’s very economical to use AHS.
Recently, there was a leakage in our air handler and it has been resolved. The tech replaced the tray, but then it cracked again so he had to replace it again. Also, AHS has a pretty good response time, but I have to try to do the claims online. If by phone, whether I call morning, noon, or night, it doesn’t matter. The whole times I’ve literally been on hold for an hour, and it’s awful. But that’s the only thing. Overall, I’ve been happy with AHS.

American Home Shield called me shortly after I submitted a claim for my microwave. I filed the claim online and it was self-explanatory, and I have a kind of a weird schedule and they were able to accommodate it. The service guy said he'd be here at 10:00. I work a night shift, so he ended up waiting for me. He was here before he said he was going to be here, which was very convenient for me because I didn't have to wait up. He showed me what was wrong and did his job, and it was all done quickly. He was awesome, and the microwave is good as new since the repair. American Home Shield is a good thing to have especially if you're a homeowner. It saves you some money in the long run. We've been in the house for a while and we had them when we first moved in but we stopped using them. And then, my wife and I had decided we should renew it and so we did six months ago.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was painless and simple to do. I had a leaky showerhead and the contractors came and replaced the unit in the faucet. It was a relatively painless job and I could have done it myself but there were some parts that were frozen together and I couldn't do it without breaking the pipes so I figured I needed a professional. The contractor gave me a two-hour window, called ahead of time and was on time. They were very good and professional. I was very happy with the service and the people were easy to get along with and have answered all my questions. I had a very good experience.

I had a problem with an AC unit, which was worked on earlier in the year, and then the heating as well. It wouldn’t come on. It seemed like it was warm outside but it wasn’t blowing anything warm inside. So the Greenway people responded to the call that I had put in American Home Shield and worked with American Home Shield in getting us two new units. Over several years Greenway has been the one that’s recommended to us and during the last week they were very helpful in getting everything set up to bring the units in.
They told me approximately how much time it would take to do it, about six and a half hour, and then they landed it right on the nose. They had to work in the dark and in the cold, and they still got it all done. We’ve been without heat for a couple of weeks in one area of the house, downstairs. And they got it running and everything was good.
American Home Shield has been very helpful as well. The only drawback, which is not one of their problems is that, it’s really hard to get in touch with them on the phone. It takes forever. They could get more phone lines. I’ve waited 40 minutes and so I’ve put it on a speaker. But I understand there are particular times of the year they’re overloaded. I’ve learned to use the internet and place a service request through their website and that’s been very helpful. And they’ve been very responsive and quick in terms of letting me know who the contractor will be. They have given me all the information that I need to go ahead with what I need to have done. I’ve been very pleased with the way they run their business and staying in contact.
I moved to American Home Shield several years ago from another home warranty outfit that had inferior contractors. American Home Shield contracts with really good persons who do service work. And I’ve been very pleased with the work they’ve done and the people that get sent out to do the work. The folks that they sent out were very professional and competent. With the other contractor it was a little sketchy in terms of who showed up and whether you really wanted them in your house. And I don’t feel that way with the people that American Home Shield has sent out..

I had a plumbing issue and called American Home Shield. Their reps were very nice when I finally reached them, but I was in a hold for an hour and a half before that. They should work on the wait time as an hour and a half is kind of a long time. Also, the plumber who came out wasn't the greatest. He wasn't able to solve the problem for my stopped-up toilet and it kept backing up. I asked him to check into it and he said that there was nothing wrong with it. But it backed up again so I'm going to have to submit another claim and have somebody get another look at it.

I got an over the range microwave oven and a couple of months ago, it wouldn’t properly shut and I couldn’t turn it on. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was really easy. I just called and they said that the contractor people should call me within 24 hours. The first guy that came out couldn’t figure out what was going on. He said that it will work if I just change one of the switches, but it didn’t. So, they came back and he looked at it and couldn’t figure it out. That’s when I requested another company to see if they can do it.
Another tech came in and suggested that we should have done both switches, so he did both switches and that still didn’t work. We tried to rearrange them and it was okay for about two days and restarted again. I called them and they came over and looked at it. They couldn’t fix it and referred us back to American Home Shield who sent an email saying that they’re going to replace it. They did replace it and somebody came here in time to install it. Everything went smooth. I’ve been with AHS for 13 years now and they are very easy to deal with. They have very good communication and the problems are really solved.

There was an issue with one of the burners on our stove and it wasn't level so I called AHS. I sat on hold the first time for 45 minutes and then I called back. I was ready to cancel the entire contract with them and find somebody else after several calls but they finally sent somebody out. They were very good but it wasn't quite fixed. So I called back and sat on hold for over two hours waiting for somebody. I got very tired of it and called back the next day, sat on hold for an hour, and that's when I discovered that because it was a recurring issue, I could do it online. They said they're waiting on getting payment from the title company, which in fact happened a week before.
Their reps said, "You don't have a contract with us but we see that it's in process. So we can give you a one-time service call until they get paid." And I said, "Well, how long does that take?" And they said, "Well that's up to the title company." I said, "Well the title company tells me they've paid you. So all I can go by is what the two of you are telling me and they conflict with each other." I asked to speak to a manager that could help me and the guy said, "Well, I am tech support. I am the manager." And I said, "You don't report to anybody?" "No." Going forward, if I have another issue and it goes that way, I'm just going to cancel. I was recommended by several people to them and I had been extremely surprised and disappointed with the service I've gotten thus far. I would have done better just paying the extra money for the contractors to come out and do it themselves. They were good but AHS has been less than pleasurable.

American Home Shield is a terrible company. I’ve had them for over 10 years now. I used them once. This was a couple of years ago and that went well. And then I used them for my air conditioner. I told them everything that was wrong with it over the phone and told them “We can do that.” They come to the house and my husband tells me he didn’t do what he was supposed to do.
Then the second time it was with the air conditioner again and same thing again. My husband tells them how he wants it to be done - the coils to be cleaned. He comes and he tells me he can’t do the coils. I’m like, “That’s not what you told me on the phone.” They told me that they can do the coils. Now, “We don’t do that. That’s not under your warranty thing.” So I’m like “You should have told me that.” That’s the rule.
Then he wanted me to pay so I’m like “I’m not paying the hundred dollars. You guys didn’t do what you’re supposed to do.” Then they called me up to tell me that I have to pay a hundred dollars and then they sent me a bill for hundred dollars, I’m like “I’m not paying a hundred dollars. You guys told me you’re going to fix it and you didn’t fix it so I got to call someone else to do it and I got to pay them. ” They charged my account that I pay $45.99 to. They charged the hundred dollars without my okay. I had to go to the bank. I had to put a stop payment on it and then I had to fight it to get the money back. I got my money back because they knew they’re wrong and I cancelled it right away. I’m very dissatisfied.

My water heater went bad, and I was told by American Home Shield that they were going to replace my 80-gallon water heater with another 80-gallon one. They called me and told me that they were going to replace it ‘cause the plumber determined that the one I had was bad. And they said that there is something that wasn’t covered under my warranty and it’s going to cost me an extra $50, which was fine as long as I’m getting a 80-gallon water heater.
The very next day, the plumber told me that they’re only going to replace it with a 50. The original problem with American Home Shield was on Sunday so I called them back on Monday. And they said that they don’t replace 80-gallon water heaters. So I asked why I was told I was going to get an 80-gallon water heater and they couldn’t tell me. I was not happy about that. I had a $1,000 water heater and I got a $400 water heater in replacement. Then they said that they put something on top of it. It’s some kind of valve that’s supposed to make it act like a 80-gallon water heater. But the plumber that installed it said that this is not going to do anything to make it act like an 80-gallon water heater. When that happened, I started looking for other home warranty companies as soon as my contract is up with American Home Shield.

The first home I bought, I had a home warranty policy with Old Republic Home Protection. I was very satisfied, everything got resolved promptly, and there was always a genuine interest/good customer service to make sure things were repaired in a prompt manner. I renewed that warranty and everything continues to go well.
When we were buying our 2nd home, our realtor suggested I go with American Home Shield, she told me their policies are ranked best/stack up higher/offer better protection than others. So went with AHS, and I greatly regret it. I'm at a point where I'm probably going to cancel it early. I've had a couple important/urgent things break at the house, like having the sewer backed up/back flowing into the showers (major Gross unsanitary mess too). I made a request online, but in order to escalate it, I needed to call in. I waited 2hrs 17min on hold. The agent told me it's their policy to wait 24 hours before they can escalate the call. Well there is sewage flooding the bathrooms and the outside of the house. How does that not seem obvious that I need an emergency plumber.
Eventually after speaking with a manager, they gave me 'outside authorization' to use my own Repair company. So I called back the plumber they initially assigned (who they said I can use). It was a Saturday night, and he said he would only come out if I paid him for his services when they were complete (and then per AHS, would submit that for reimbursement).
Well it's all messed up/a scam. Because AHS doesn't pay for emergency service rates/work. And they denied my claim, so basically it ended up being all out of pocket. So why even bother to buy a home warranty when you have to be on hold for 2 hours each time, and then if it's an emergency Repair, you basically are forced to pay it out of pocket if you need prompt service.
So here I am, with another emergency issue, and I've been on hold for over 1hr 30min. They either purposely have such a long response time to discourage you from placing requests/getting proper resolution, or they just don't care? When I was with Old Republic Home Protection, I would get a live agent on the phone within 5 minutes. Even after hours it would be no more than 10. This is terrible service, all they do is find ways to deny claims, and I strongly urge home buyers or owners to stay far away.

I took American Home Shield thinking that it would be very convenient to get things fixed. But my experience with a refrigerator repair has been terrible - it's been over a month and they have still not been able to fix it. The technician comes out (twice already), diagnoses it incompletely, there was a long unexplained lag between the first work and the time they got the part (the contractor and the AHS blames the other for the lack of communication leading to the delay).
I am still waiting for them to fix it as I write this - technician said he does not know what to do, but AHS apparently asked them to order another part, and now I am stuck on a call holding for the past 30 mins, trying to get an answer from AHS on what their new solution is. Their wait times on the phone are typically a HOUR - what kind of business does that? It's been extremely frustrating to say the least. Another work order to fix the washing machine got done in a couple weeks time (technician comes within a few days for diagnosis, orders parts which takes a week or so, they reschedule the visit, which is another few days).

We bought the house in June of this year and whoever put the flooring prior to us moving in put a finishing nail through the trim when they put it back on the wall. The nail went into the PACS pipe and then the type of pipe that sealed right around it began to rust and finally sprung the leak. So technically, the nail and the pipe was a man-made problem, but the rest was a natural cause. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. They got back to me the next day but they denied my claim, so I handled the problem myself. It was the company and the policies that were the problem. They look for a way to get out of things and that’s how a warranty company stays alive, which is why we cancelled them. On the other hand, the plumbing company that they sent out was great and very professional, and I would definitely recommend them for the future. I had a bit of mix-up with them, but they took care of it on the back end.

I have called them twice and I spent almost an hour. So it would have been better for me to be able to do it online.
I made the request online and everything went very well. But there should be a way to follow up online. That was impossible for me so I had to call them. The offices were very busy and they hold customers on. They keep customers waiting for almost an hour each time we need to say something. They called me back and then they said I should call them again, and then I called, I stayed another hour to be able to speak to someone. And then somebody else came to fix the hole. I had a water leak under the house so I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the process worked out good. However, the first contractor that came out, Shields Plumbing, was terrible. The guy looked 20-feet away under the house with a small flashlight and says, "Oh. Well, I’ll have to take a look at that.” So, he typed up something and sent it to AHS, saying that it was a shift in the earthquake that caused that and that's why AHS couldn’t fix it or pay for it or get it fixed. I thought that guy probably just didn’t want to crawl down in there to check it out. I called AHS back and they suggested that I get another person to come out and check it and they weren't going to charge me more if it was the same findings.
The second group, Hodges Plumbing came, checked the issue out and fixed it that same day that I called. The guys went where the source was and found where the pipe was corroded. Usually, AHS send an email but I didn’t see anything so I don’t think I got charged for it. I would tell a friend that having AHS would be a good idea, especially if you’re old like me who do not like to crawl under the house and tired of plumbing work.

The American Home Shield's contractor came at the time he said he was going to come and looked at our HVAC system and the furnaces to see if they were putting out carbon monoxide. And in his opinion, they were not because the fire was burning blue. But he did not have his carbon monoxide tester tool with him so, he’s going to have to bring it back in the next days or next week to test it. He said there’s a part in the furnace that gets rid of excess gas and vents it out into the house. We have two furnaces and that unit was old and not working optimally in both furnaces.
So, he called American Home Shield and reported that and they said that they’d cover that, so he ordered those two parts. He stated that the parts would take 10 days to come out. And so, I said, “Well, I don’t want to wait that long to retest, so can you come out prior to that time to test?” And he said he would come out early next week to get his tool because he had forgotten it for today’s appointment. So, he’s going to come twice. He’s going to come back early next week, do the carbon monoxide testing, then he’s going to install the new parts, the induced draft generator, and then he’s going to test it again just to make sure that there’s no chance of carbon monoxide.
One of the things that I really don’t like about AHS, it’s that I can’t reach a human being when I call them. And when you call them, the little voice on the phone basically says, “Okay. Pick a device or appliance that’s broken.” And so, you have to pick something that’s broken, and then they’ll register an appointment with a plumber or an HVAC or whoever, and then they’ll call you to schedule something. But I don’t have the ability to speak to a human. I once was online for 45 minutes waiting to just talk to a human, and literally, they picked up, and like, “Hello? Hello?” And I didn’t say hello fast enough back to them, they hung up. So, I have a customer service with AHS in terms of speaking to a human.
The issue is I got a weird smell coming from the closet area in the bedroom, but I am not an expert. I don’t know what system is producing that. There’s a pipe that runs through that closet and the closet is in a room next to a bathroom. So, we had a plumber come out because we thought maybe it’s a sewage smell and the plumber said, “Well, I’ll fix the toilet because the toilet was not heated properly. So he did fix the toilet but he said, “I’m not allowed to look at anything else,” because the only thing I’m charging for is this toilet. And then he said, “I’ll look around,” and he went up and looked around. And he said, “There are no pipes that go through this closet.” It turns out in retrospect he was actually wrong because when the HVAC guy came out on our own dime he detects a pipe that was underneath the insulation. So, there’s a weird smell in the house.
We had the gas company out. They said it’s not gas. I don’t know where it’s coming from, but it is a gas-type smell. We thought maybe it’s a dead animal, but it doesn’t smell like a dead animal. It’s very distinct and it would decompose and go away eventually. But this has been an intermittent yet constant smell over the last couple of months. So, on our own dime, we’ve had another guy come out to do like an ozone generator thing. And that seems to have worked somewhat, but the ozone smell is interacting with the paint and the carpet liners to make even a weirder smell coming out of the carpet and the paint. So, that’s not been a really good solution either. We have a room in our house we cannot use because of the weird smell. It makes my wife nauseous.
I bought the home warranty to try to mitigate these issues, so it’d be really cool if I could talk to someone who would send multiple experts out to look at it and address the root issue. That’d be a deal. I don’t care if they rip the wall out, look in there with a snake camera. It’s frustrating from my perspective as a consumer because I’ve tried about four or five different things, and AHS is not responsive in a way that would be helpful to me. And there’s something like home restoration places that work on mold remediation. AHS could send somebody out or a team of people to assess it, figure it out, lock it down, cut a hole in the wall, detect, ground in there, and that would be awesome. Nevertheless, the service members who have come out have been extremely helpful, kind and nice, but they can only address the issue they’re allowed at best.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

It was SOP as far as what you would expect from filling out an online form. If you had any kind of technical background, it was easy to figure out their website.
The contractor was there when he said he was going to be there and he was very professional. He came in and analyzed the problem and he let me know exactly what he was doing. He completed the repair right then and everything in my refrigerator is working now, so I'm very happy. We had to throw everything away and start over as far as groceries went but it didn’t matter. Other than that, everything else was fine. I feel comfortable knowing that if anything happens, I'm covered. My lower heater went out. It wasn't heating and we need heaters in the house. We're not run down though and it was finally repaired last Wednesday. Eight days or so before that, I called in the claim to American Home Shield, and then the technicians came out right away. They were very good. They did their troubleshooting and I actually had a third problem with it. We figured out that the heat exchange was bad and as they went in, they found other issues that were bad with it. Now, the worst part of the whole thing was they could have picked the parts right up at Carrier local. But they had to wait for AHS, or whoever they ordered it from, and then it took them three to four days to ship here. And then, my repair guy had to go pick them up in order to do it, or I would have had heat a lot sooner.
AHS reps were good and considerate. But when the claim was made and they ordered the parts, they don’t give anybody a tracking number so we could see where they're at or maybe figure out a way to get them sooner. Their overall customer service was very good. I'm very pleased with their reps. But there's a little light on the heater if there's no sight gauge. So, when it would fault and the light would come on, it would flash. And if it flashed so many times, there's this thing in there that tells you what's wrong. But because of the issue I had, I had to turn the power up on because the heater was blowing cold air and not heat into the home. So, even with my fireplace on, it wasn’t really helping. So, every time I did that, it'd reset. So, when we finally held it long enough where they could come out and look at it, then we were able to go to the source. But they were very good at what they did and they were very concerned about doing the job correctly.
I've had AHS since 2012 on this particular home. I've had incidents where they did things that were wrong like shipping the part to Florida instead of South Carolina, and then saying it was here. But that was only at one time. Now, everything went as it should. They called and contacted me and let me know when the parts would be in but with no tracking number. I don't know the difference in the cost if it was much cheaper for them to get the part wherever they got it and had it shipped here rather than getting one local right here. That's what AHS need to consider especially when it's cold and the heat or air goes out. But other than that, I've been very happy with AHS. The heating contractor that they have now is much better than the ones I've had in the past. I would recommend them to a friend.

The transmission in my washing machine was all rotted out, and it was time to replace it. So, I had American Home Shield come to fix it, and it went really smoothly. Everything was great. I called in at night, and they took care of it. They also said that they would come in 10 days, but they were here in six. The machine’s been nice since the repair. I’ve had American Home Shield for 18 years, and they’re efficient. When the air conditioner goes out, I can call no matter what time at night, and then they have someone out by the next morning. They’re here when they say they’re going to be.

My furnace was blowing out cold air. It was very lukewarm, but no heat. I called American Home Shield and told them it wasn't working. They sent someone to check it out and the guy made an assessment. After I had a hard time getting in touch with them, I called and asked them what was going on and I was told the claim was submitted and they were waiting to figure out what they want to do. Then someone came out and fixed the problem. Everything's working good.

I only had one claim with American Home Shield. It started in July and it was just completed last week. As far as rectifying the problem, they continuously band-aided it until they had to replace the compressor on the air conditioner. Their contractor was responsive and on time. They scheduled well. On their first trip, they charged me for a pound of Freon, as well as the service visit. And then, within a couple of weeks, it wasn't working again. So, they had to come back out and they did something else but there was no replacement of any parts or anything that lasted for another month or two. Then, they came out and jumpstarted on it and that worked for a week. But within a week, it was acting up again intermittently, and not working throughout a portion of the summer. But it was our upstairs air conditioner, so it wasn't our primary air system.
We finally were nearing the end of the exploration of our warranty and I became more persistent about taking another call into them to get them to come and take a look at it. They came out within days of my warranty ending and determined that I needed a compressor. But all the prior attempts could have been avoided if they had just acknowledged that on the front and that was always the issue.
My experience with American Home Shield took a while to get my unit fixed. But, all in all, it was fine. Ultimately, I got my unit repaired. But I chose not to renew because I thought that the rate had gone up too significantly. When I originally bought it, it was $650-ish and they wanted $1100 to renew it for the second year. So, I opted not to because the compressor repair was probably a $1500 repair. So, by the time I paid for the Freon, and the multiple service calls that I had to invest in it as well as the first Freon shot, I probably put $800 in it. So, I've looked at the first year as a value, but didn't see the value in renewing.

There were two faucets that needed new cartridges and another faucet that was leaking. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine. The plumber came out promptly and they said they needed to order the part and it took a long time. They said that they couldn't handle it because I have high-end faucets and they couldn't work on it. I didn't hear from them for a month so I called American Home Shield a couple of times and they sent messages to the plumber. The plumber never responded.
I contacted the executive office and they changed the company because she tried me to them as well and she said that she wouldn't use them anymore. The same contractor was assigned once before so I won't accept them anymore. So, she took them off the list and added up to change the plumber. I got the issue with the faucets resolved in two days. The faucets have been perfect and the executive office and the plumber that came out the second time were excellent.

I just called to submit a claim, gave them the information and they sent somebody out. It was very easy. I’ve had people out to take care of the plumbing issue five different times. And they kept telling me that it was the air condition. I decided I was going to find out exactly where the leak was from because when the air condition ran, I didn’t have any problems with the leak. So I turned the air condition off and I started using the bathroom that was right over where the water was so I found out that it was the bathroom. It was the bathtub and not the air condition by process of elimination.
Then the contractor sent by American Home Shield came out. The guy was professional. He listened to what I said. He investigated and saw I was right. He went right to it and fixed it. It took him about an hour. He stayed to run the water to make sure it was fixed. When it was fixed, he left. Since then, I have not had any problem.
I've been with American Home Shield for 24 years now and when you’ve been with a company that long, the only comment that I have is they don’t give any incentives for being with them for loyalties. Still, I have recommended people to American Shield because on a whole, I’ve had a good experience. The bad experiences that I have had have not been with American Shield, they have been with the contractors that came out.

We had a problem with the air conditioning not cooling down the house. We filed a claim with American Home Shield and the technicians came out right away and fixed it. They were probably in and out in 20 minutes and everything worked great since then. So I'm very happy with them. The only thing that I didn't like with AHS was their wait time. It was an hour and a half, and that is way too long to be on hold. When you schedule online you get a couple of the ones that people have nightmares with. And sure enough, the same thing happened when I schedule online. I have to call and wait on line and that way I get the company I rather have. AHS needs to give you a choice of companies to pick from and have a star rating next to them. So that way you can actually pick someone that other people have liked, and for companies that have lower ratings to get their acts together so they'll get better ratings. But overall, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

We got a home warranty when we first bought the house years ago. But I wanted to get another one and American Home Shield sent me an email. When I went back to back in the house one Thursday night, our water heater blew out and was spewing water out of the tank. It apparently had a hole in the inner tank. I submitted a claim through the AHS website because it was about 10:30 that night. On Friday, a young guy came out and looked at it but couldn't get back to us until Tuesday because AHS had to order the tank. They couldn't repair the hole so they replaced the water heater. But everything went fine. The plumber did a great job and was very professional. He took care what he was doing and didn't make a mess. Overall, my experience was simple, easy and timely.

My heat pump went out, started making a big rattling noise, and was just blowing hot air. I let it go for a few weeks but it wasn’t getting any better so I called American Home Shield up. They then sent out a company that concluded that the compressor had gone out. He said that they would repair and replace the compressor which would typically be a $3000 or $4000 job and they were only going to pay $1800, and that didn’t cover permits. However, he didn’t address the other issues like the clanking. I was asking the guy who came here about the other issues, but he only seemed to send in a quote for the compressor. So, when American Home Shield contacted me, it was only for the heat pump and not the other issues. So, I researched the company that they sent out, and they had horrific reviews.
Why wouldn't they have other reputable companies on their roster rather than these shady ones which seemed to like to make claims about one issue so they can come back and fix the next one later? I opted not to have them touch my unit, and called AHS to ask what I could do, and wanted to have another better and more reputable company. I wanted to check if they would do anything else, and they said no. The only other option I had was cash in lieu, like a check. Plus, they only offered $801, which is pretty much only the cost of the part itself, not the labor. I didn’t understand why in a $3000-$4000 quote, with me paying $1800 would they only cut a check for $801.
AHS is only good for small appliances. They don’t want to do big repairs, only the little ones, and that’s exactly what I’m going to keep using them for. If they’re getting $31 a month from a consumer, and it costs $100 for a repair call, if you paid for a full year and call them once and pay the $100, you already pretty much paid for a new dishwasher. We are dissatisfied with AHS mainly because of the companies they partner with. I might have let them do it if I just trusted the people they were working with.
AHS insure things but not as much as possible, and you end up working with shadier companies. If they diagnosed the entire thing, they might have looked and said that there were a few parts that weren’t working right. I know a little bit about ACs, and they didn’t notice that there was a little fire that started on the hard start motor, which if it’s not working, or it blows out, the compressor will blow. And that’s what happened. My wife and I will probably go with Gilmore. It’s a reputable company.
Hello, Matthew. AHS covers the parts and labor of any repairs or replacements that we cover. I apologize if you are experiencing issues that were never addressed by the service provider. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact to further assist.

The kitchen sink was clogged so I called American Home Shield up and they said, "We'll have a plumber you can contact." They contacted me and the plumbing company couldn't come out because something was wrong with one of their vans. And so it was going to be a couple of days. So I contacted plumbers in the area where I live because I can't live with a backed up kitchen sink with kids -- they just put everything in there.
I found one that could come out and I called the Home Warranty plumber back and I said, "Hey, I found somebody that can do the job." And they go, "Oh no, we have somebody that can come out." I go, "Well, in how long?" "He'll just be out there in 20 minutes." So I called the plumbing company back that I had scheduled and they showed up on time and they resolved the problem. They just had equipment failure and they got it fixed and they showed and did what they are supposed to do.
My kitchen cleanout was shallow and the technician didn't have anything to catch the water in the cleanout. But that's not his fault because he didn't know. So I loaned him a cookie sheet that he could catch all the water on so it wouldn't get on my kitchen cabinet. I would not say he's ill prepared but if he knew he's coming to something like that he should be prepared for it. But he was nice and friendly to me and the issue was resolved in a timely manner. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I bought a place in Central Village for my dad and the water heater got busted. I had dripping water so I called AHS and they gave me a plumber who called the last minute and said that there was a death in the family and he couldn’t come. The same company was rescheduled for the next day but they did not show. I called the company four times and they said they were coming and for me to hold on. It was so frustrating that I thought I had paid money for a nonsense service.
After a lot of calls, they finally told me that they'd give me the discretion to bring my own person in. I brought my own guy and he told me I needed a new heater. He then got me a new water heater and AHS reimbursed it. While the reimbursement took quicker than I expected, it was very very frustrating in terms of getting someone out there. Also, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a lot of confusion around whether something is covered or not.
I had another so-so experience with AHS with my air conditioning unit. One guy said that he was going to fix the unit but he only half fixed it. So I had to get another guy who did a good job fixing it. Overall, it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. What I find curious is that the first plumber they send for my water heater. When I went online, they had the world’s worst reviews. The refrigerator that was not cooling was the most recent claim we have submitted to American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy. The only difficulty was the time we submitted a claim for our AC. It was really hot, and it took a couple of days for somebody to come out because they said that there wasn’t anyone available. So, we were stuck in the heat in the house, which is not a good thing. I have a two-year-old and an eight-year-old, so I was really more so concerned about them. But they did say if somebody’s appointment was canceled, they would try to fit me in.
I had to wait three days and they’ve included the weekend, and then we had somebody out that Monday. When something goes out such as heat or the AC, they were not able to schedule something right away. We had fans in the house, so we cooled the house using the ceiling fans. But I was definitely glad when the AC was back on. But with the refrigerator, the service happened quickly. We had an appointment the next day. The contractor that did our refrigerator was great. He was professional, he worked on the problem, cleaned up the water and there wasn’t a mess left. It's working perfectly now, so I was happy.
I submit claims both through the phone and online but the online process is really quick. As soon as we submit the claim, we instantly receive a text message or a phone call. I also appreciate the phone call right when they’re in route and when they’re almost there. So, as far as staying on top of the scheduled appointment and calling us back and following up, it’s perfect. I was told that it was going to be very difficult to deal with American Home Shield and that I would have to fight to have my claims submitted and covered under the warranty. But I haven’t had that experience. Overall, they're professional, prompt and has very strong communication.

I had a leak in my shower and I submitted a claim online for its repair with AHS. In previous experiences, I've called them but I found that it takes forever or at least an hour every time you call. So, it's faster to do it online. When the contractor came out, they cut a few holes in the drywall and in the tile. When they figured out where the leak was coming from, they repaired the hole. Then, they dispatched a drywall repair person out and they fixed the holes in the drywall. The repair on the tile was not covered per the policy, so that's annoying, but it's not the fault of the home warranty. We requested a refrigerator fix on 11/8/17 using our AHS home warranty (it took us 2 calls - 1st we were on hold for over an hour and then got hung up on; 2nd call was answered after 49 minutes of wait time) and we were required to pay our $80 service charge at that time. The contracted servicing company by AHS was scheduled 7 days out as the earliest appt. The company fixing our fridge required us to sit at home and wait on them between 8am-5pm. They were to call us 30 minutes before coming. We received a call but could not answer immediately (due to a work call) and when we called back (15 minutes later). The company skipped us and said they would have to reschedule (earliest reschedule was 1 more week away). The company was rude and hung up on us. When we questioned them why they moved onto the next customer before our 30 min wait time was expired.
We called AHS and sat on hold once again for another hour for help. The AHS rep Told us the company that was contracted was the only refrigerator repair company in our area. (We live in Charlotte, NC - a large city - there should be more companies to service!!). We requested to cancel our contract and get a refund on the $80 we originally paid for the "No Show" company. The rep transferred us to the retention group - we sat on hold an additional 45 minutes. The retention rep said he was sorry, would refund our $80 and offered to send someone out to fix our fridge at no cost. That rep said he would use Sears and we were thrilled to get a larger company known for appliance repairs. We received a confirmation email the following day but did not receive confirmation of the scheduled appt time or date - just confirmation of our service call.
We tried to call 4 more times over a few days as we waited patiently but we're hung up on or sat on hold indefinitely a few times. Finally on Sunday, 11/26 we were able to reach a live person at AHS after 1 hang up (after 50 minutes of waiting) and an additional wait of 47 minutes. Whitney said she would schedule the appt on Monday because sears appt line wasn't able to schedule over the weekend. She said our $80 was not refunded because it was transferred to the new request with Sears. (This was suppose to be a no-charge fix!) She said she would send a request to the rep in retention to contact us about our refund but for now at least she could get the appt scheduled. She promised to call me back on Monday between 9am-9:30am but she did not return my call. I tried to call all day but each time I stayed on for at least 50 minutes and was disconnected without speaking to a human.
My husband reached a man last night by calling and selecting the sales option - that wait time was only about 20 mins as they thought they were gaining a new contract. We were transferred and then hung up on. Sat on hold a 2nd time (through sales line) asked to be transferred and waited 40 minutes - this time the man told us our service had been scheduled for 12/7 (almost 30 days after our first call was made). We quickly called Sears directly to validate and it was confirmed. All the trouble we had scheduling an appt and now my fridge is a complete block of ice in the back behind the panels. I have to use it because we have nothing else but I fear more damage has been done by all the waiting. We were also told we will not be reimbursed for any food loss if that happens.
AHS drafts my acct monthly so they are paid on time. They quickly took my $80 co-pay on 11/8 for service and held that money up. Yet they take my time and I lose working time sitting and waiting or tracking them down via Social Media to get their attention for a callback! Their staffing of call centers is ridiculous and sets up their employees for failure. The Voice over IP system either isn't working or they have set it up to intentionally frustrate people. The reps do not follow through with what they promise (callbacks, refunds, etc). I have other items that need fixing but don't feel like fooling with all the hassles. (Perhaps their strategy.)
Warn people before giving this company a good rating. All you need to do is lol on Twitter or Facebook - the complaints are all over the country and too numerous to count. This company was good about 3 years ago but something changed in a very bad way. Bottom line - poor customer service, no follow through, bad model with customer paying for service before work is completed or even scheduled, the negatives far outweigh the positives and we will be canceling our contract this year and advising others to do so before they are hurt. (We do not have a receipt as the company pulled funds virtually from our acct.)

This complaint is against AHS's contractor Active Appliances. They sent out a service technician to fix my leaking dishwasher and after taking it apart he verbally informed me that the motor was bad and that it needed to be replaced. He also told me that he would need to order the part and that someone would contact me in a few days. After a week I called AHS for the status and they informed me that the contractor reported that there was nothing wrong with my dishwasher and closed the issue. The technician basically lied to me about coming back to fix my dishwasher then reported that there was nothing wrong with my dishwasher. I went back to look at my copy of the work order and he had left it completely blank. He must have filled it out after I signed it. I called AHS and after waiting on hold for 30 minutes the line disconnected. I don't know what to do at this point but I DON'T WANT that contractor back in my house again.

We called American Home Shield for a leaking pipe claim. The plumbers fixed it but when they came back, they said that AHS was not going to cover the repair because it was a preexisting condition. The plumbers even said that the repair would be expensive. But when I pulled up my home inspection as well as the sewer inspection report, none of them mentioned that I have a preexisting condition. I called back AHS to bring it up but they said that they would take care and cover it. So I didn't even need to necessarily use the ammunition that I had gotten. There was some miscommunication and I don’t want to be cynical but it sounded like the contractors were going to have a large repair and are trying to find a way to side-step it.
The AHS website is good for setting up the claim. My initial contact with them was good and it's a really fast system. But when I had to call in for technical support during the claim, I had to be on hold for an hour because of the huge volume of calls they got. I also had to repeatedly call in to talk about an existing claim. In doing so, I had my phone on hold next to me and went about my day until I heard them pick up. So if there was a better way for the website to take care of customers with claims already in progress, it would be a fantastic improvement.

We got AHS less than a year and had called them for a couple of broken items. Already the problems started, as contractors had to come multiple times (often late) for same issue, and masked the problems rather than repair them. We have a broken fridge and after paying 2 deductible for NOT having it fixed properly, AHS wouldn't even pay for the total cost of replacing it. The last straw came when our water heater suddenly stopped working and started to flood the garage. Due to the urgency, and to our now lack-of-confidence with AHS, we called the contractor who initially installed the water heater. He came promptly and said the water heater had to be changed immediately since it was broken and the water had to be shut down until it was replaced.
While he was replacing the heater, I called AHS to tell them this couldn't wait, and my claim was completely denied since I had not gotten their approval first. We obviously had no time to wait for their contractor to show up for a subpar job. We basically lost money paying for AHS contract-premium-and now, about 2000$ for the water heater. Obviously, being insured with them didn't give us the peace of mind they promise.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you have experienced to have your water heater replaced. I would be glad to resolve the issues. I have sent you an email providing you with my contact information.

However, I decided to cancel my most recent claim for an HVAC because they referred it to a company who couldn’t get here for 48 hours. So, I asked them if they could please refer it to a different company, and they said that 48 hours was sufficient. And then, they told me, “Well, it’s not freezing in your area.” So, if I’m not freezing to death, they don’t care? It was 27 degrees at night that got up to 55 during the day. So, it can be really uncomfortable.
I ended up getting another HVAC company to come out here later that day out of my own dime, and they were able to get it fixed. I do not wish to renew with AHS this January. A few days after we have moved in, I noticed that there was mold growing in our refrigerator and there was water leaking. I called AHS and had no problems filing my claim and it was very easy. Their rep was very pleasant and easy to talk to. We had a very great conversation and they handled everything. A man came in October and fixed it. He did the best job he could. It was hard to get the part though so we had to wait for it. Our fridge is working perfectly now. The repair really helped because we were having to keep our food in an ice chest.
Our second claim was for a rekey. Some of our keys were lost and when the technician came over here, the house was standing wide open. Rekeying was something that had to be done. The guy who did it was very professional and he definitely knew what he was doing. I've been with AHS since the day we bought our house in September and everything has been great. I would recommend them to a friend.

One day, the AC just stopped blowing out cold air. I was actually at work, so my wife called the number, and they got a local person to come out and take a look at it. He said it was just a compressor issue, so he replaced the part, and it worked again. We'd recommend American Home Shield.

My shower was leaking from the shower head and my sink was leaking underneath the sink. And then, I had a leak in the garage ceiling that I believe was coming from the upstairs bathroom. So we had three leaks and I submitted my claim online to American Home Shield then I spoke to their representative and they took care of my question. Apparently, there's a difference between a shower head and a shower panel. And a shower panel isn't covered by American Home Shield. So, that didn’t get fixed.
Also, they didn’t see any water coming from the garage portion of it and he couldn’t make any water leak under the sink. However, the whole bottom of the sink is sunk in and smells like mildew. So nothing got repaired. They just patched up the hole that they cut in the garage, but they said I have 30 days to have them come back and check it again. So, I'm just waiting for a good time to have them come back.
American Home Shield has a great system, but a lot of things don't actually get covered. It just seems clean as day to me that a shower head and a shower panel all where water comes from should be covered. But I didn’t make the rules and I didn’t go in and read the super fine print, but it seems pretty self-explanatory to me. But apparently you have to read the fine print.

We had issues with the toilet and the oven in the last month, and the plumber and the appliance person sent by American Home Shield were very professional. I've always had American Home Shield so I talked my grown daughters into getting them. Up until two years ago, they were the premier home warranty company, but in the last two years, things have totally changed as far as the response time. It is difficult to get in touch with someone. You're always put on hold for at least an hour in order to talk to someone. They have professional people coming up but the response is very slow. So, if we had a true emergency or if I worked, it would be a difficulty. I wouldn't be able to cook or flush the toilet. And also, with the toilet situation, in order to have our toilet taken care of, they had to remove the toilet while they charged more because American Home Shield said they can't remove the toilet.

Our garage door wouldn't open or close anymore and for some reason, I went ahead and scheduled a regular garage door guy to come out myself, which I shouldn't have done. I didn't even think to do it through AHS. The guy came in and he told me what he thought was wrong. He said the motor was burned out and have to be replaced and was talking several hundred dollars. But when we called AHS, they had somebody come out in a couple of days and the guy had a completely different diagnosis of the problem. He was also able to actually fix the existing motor. In a matter of half an hour, it was up and done. It was a much better result and I never had to have a technician come back out. It all worked fine once they fixed it.
Overall, my experience with AHS has been much more positive than I anticipated. I've never had anything like it before. But the Realtor, when I bought the house, paid for the first year. And I've been renewing it since then because it has really worked well. This house was built in '92 so it's 25 years old and things here and there are starting to fail. I've become a believer in AHS.

My toilet was leaking from the tank so I called American Home Shield. The call with the claims rep was quick and I was able to pick when I wanted the repairman to come out. The rep sent out a referral to a local vendor who came to our home. The repair was minor that they were in and out and it was fixed really quickly in the first round. AHS sent me a text to let me know when the repairman was arriving and I was able to track their travel to my house so I knew to the second when they were arriving. That was really great and one of my favorite part of the experience. The whole process was straightforward and satisfactory.

The air-conditioner went out the weekend we closed on the house and I called my realtor to find out because we didn’t know any information about what warranty we had and she didn’t call me back until Monday. So we just called somebody locally and had them fix it. It was right in the middle of Harvey too so I sent American Home Shield a letter hoping we would be reimbursed. Everybody was closed and given that extenuating circumstances maybe they would honor it but they wouldn’t. So we paid for that and then we had a refrigerator ice-maker that they came out to fix. And by that time things went fine.
I submitted the claim online and it was easy. The contractors were coming from quite far away but they worked with us and they were there on time and set up the appointment so that we could make sure we were there. They were really easy to work with. They looked at it and they had to come back until they get the part and finish fixing it. And when a part came in we just scheduled it. The contractors were good. AHS works as having the set amount on the deductible each month and that went it for a year. Everything’s fixed.

We had somebody that came out through American Home Shield because I was having problems with the septic tank. He said that our septic tank needed to be pumped out. My wife had called to let them know on the 20th that it needed to be done. The guy came out on the 24th but he doesn’t do septic tanks at all. There was a confusion there that’s why the guy said he was going to refund the money because basically he said that they don’t cover septic tank pumping at all. So they sent somebody that didn’t do that type work out but they charged us for it. But everything else has been good. We've communicated with them and they’ve been fair. We recommend them to friends. And it would mean a lot to me if they try to get this money refunded to me for a service claim that they do not cover.

And they came out and they replaced something with it. For this recent claim, I did it online on a Sunday because that's when we got back and within an hour, the contractor was calling me and setting up an appointment to come out the next day. I've used multiple companies sent by American Home Shield in the past with my rental property and with my own personal residence, and I'm very happy so far. I had a few different things that were going on with my plumbing, and a company called Just Plumbing came out. The tech was able to fix everything expeditiously, did a good job and seemed to really know stuff, so I was very happy with him. Before that, we had somebody come out to do a dishwasher repair as well as a refrigerator and ice maker repair, and they were fantastic as well.
The hardest thing that I've had to deal with is when I didn't want to go online to do my claim. If I wanted to physically call somebody, I had to wait anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour before to get somebody on the telephone. Sometimes, I like talking to somebody versus doing it online because I know what I'm saying and I know I'm going to ask a few questions here and there. I don't feel like I can do that when I'm doing something online. But my biggest problem's been if I had a claim ticket where I can avoid having to pay multiple hundred dollar deductibles. If I have two different things to fix, I don't know that I can necessarily get online and make appointments to set up two separate things. Other than that, everything else has been seamless. AHS seems to be responsive once you get them on the phone and set up the appointments. Everything seems to move quick and efficient and they're on time, and all that have been great.

We called them and after waiting a few weeks, they came over back to order parts and on fourth time we got it done. Everything works okay now. Their contractors were very nice. We have a seven year old Samsung refrigerator. Two years after I got it, the warranty worn off of it. It started having problems. It will work a while but my food keeps getting spoiled. It's the same thing over and over and I'm losing a lot of money behind it.The manufacturer replaced the pods that appear to be defective. They keeps freezing up.
It's very difficult getting through AHS, and sometimes they keep you on there. Once they pick up the phone, they put you on hold and do not give you any response, and you have to wait because you're afraid that you're going to lose your space. I also don't like the new system they had set up. When the contractor came and I gave them the deposit for what's required for the service cost, they will give us the receipt. We don't get anything now.
When a company tries to improve something, they're supposed to improve it for the customer's benefit as well as for theirs. However, AHS will only be doing it for their sake. What I do is I document and use the computer to verify certain things, just like when I received a message from them telling me that the problem is corrected. It hasn't been. They are still supposed to be getting another pod in coming back, so I have to send a report saying, "No, I'm still waiting for the service to be completed."
I'm thinking about looking at another service provider. I come talking to them from out of town and they don't follow-up anything that I asked of them unless I called back and follow-up, and that's when they'll follow-up. I would not recommend them because I'm not satisfied with the service that I have been getting in previous years, and I've had them for a while.

I've been in this house ever since I moved to Vegas 20 years ago. When our air conditioning stopped in the summer, I had my own serviceman from a different company come for it. He went up the roof and when he came back down, he said somebody was up on my roof and left the caps off so I lost all the air conditioning Freon. I had to have a new one and American Home Shield fought me to the nail as they didn't want to put a new one in there. So we were over $200, and the other $75 just to get a technician walk in, just to get it filled. If that air-conditioner goes out again, I want to have that thing covered as that can cost me $5,000 real quick.
Whether the technician does anything or not, he still got to get paid $75. Like when my microwave's handle broke within the last year, I had to pay them 'till they found the handle to put back on. And the same thing happened with our dryer that was making noise. It was 20 years old and probably in another six months, something else is going to happen to it, so I just bought a new one.
Recently, I tried calling American Home Shield for one day straight to submit a claim for my toilet for whenever I flush, it would make a whistling noise and then it gets loud. It was the inside that had to be changed. They kept on saying, "You're 10 minutes away." And by the time that time come by and nobody answered, I hung up and tried calling them again later on in the day. I started at about 8:30 in the morning and it went on right through to 9:00 at night and I was not happy with it. My wife got in touch with them the next day, and she said the girl she talked to was very nice and the person that came out was terrific. We've had problems with guys before that came out, but this last one was a really good guy. He fixed the toilet problem and I asked him some different questions about other things that I had plumbing-wise that I needed to have fixed and he gave me answers. My fan would not shut off at all which caused a heating problem. I submitted a claim on the phone because they usually use somebody named Greenway and I've had very, very bad experience with them and so has my sister. So, I cannot allow Greenway to come to my home. The guy they sent was wonderful. He was in and out, and he knew what he was talking about. They ordered the part, came back and fixed the problem, and everything was on-time. Everything was just as he said. He showed me the part that was burnt out and everything's been working perfectly since then.
Their reps were supposed to have marked my file a long time ago that I would not use Greenway. They were nice but a little bit argumentative about it. AHS wanted to send Greenway and I just don't like them in my house, because I had them come out a while back because there was something wrong with my air-conditioner. They came out and they said nothing's wrong. They finally sent the supervisor. The supervisor walked in and said, "You're not going to get a new air-conditioner." And I said, "I've never even asked for a new air-conditioner. I just want this fixed. And there's nothing blowing out right now."
The supervisor didn't bring a ladder. He knew it was up on the unit. He laid down on my floor because one of my registers is in my cabinet. He laid there for 15 minutes waiting for everything to stabilize. Then he got up and said, "Go outside and see if it's still running." I did. I went outside and I came back in. And he was at another register and he said, "It registered just fine." But I never did see where it was registered properly. I told him, "Be sure to put it on there that you didn't bring a ladder. That you didn't check the unit up above." And he said, "Yeah, I'll do that. Will you check again and see if it's running?" I went out, checked again, it was running. I went back in the door, almost knocked him over and he was leaving. I came in my kitchen and he has written on it, a form, "No Defect." And he hadn't even checked out everything.
So I had to actually contact one of the representatives with American Home Shield to get something done. And then as it turns out, there was something wrong. There was a hole in my coil and it was leaking. And all of my Freon was used up and I used that the whole time without Freon. I asked them again to mark their records about Greenway. They said they would but I don't know if they did or not. I haven't used my air-conditioner. It was already working from the last time it was repaired. They sent somebody other than Greenway out and repaired it and it was working fine after that. But that was a year ago when it happened.
I want to make sure that the guy who was out here this last time came from Antioch, Tennessee. He was very professional. He and the people on the phone were wonderful. I just want to make sure that AHS knew that Greenway was the problem and not this other person who came recently because he really did such a marvelous job.
I understand your frustration with one of the contractors assigned to repair your air conditioner system even after you requested for us not to send them. I would be glad ot speak with you in an effort to resolve your experience.
Thank you,

It's going well with American Home Shield. They're fine, but one problem that I have is if I have an emergency, the vendors takes so long to come out. My worst experience was when my toilet was backing up all over my house. That’s what I said when I called in, but the vendor couldn’t come out till five or six days later. I called back and asked if they had anybody else, but they didn’t. I had to pay a plumber to come out to my house and stop my toilet. When I got through with that, I forgot to cancel the appointment of the plumber from the vendor, and ended up paying $75. When I called back, the lady said because I didn’t use the word “emergency”, my claim wasn’t considered a rush.
The next incident that I had was pretty bad, when my hot water heater burst. A vendor couldn’t come out until four or five days later. I had to pay somebody to come in and do the hot water heater myself, because we didn’t have any water in the house plus the tank was reaching all over my house. I was pretty upset about that because I’m paying for a service that I’m really not receiving. With the last incident I called for, was my air condition was leaking, so somebody came out and did some work on the it and that’s fine. But, when I have an emergency, they're not there for it, and we ended up paying out of our pocket. Vendors should be able to come out sooner if it’s an emergency.

I had a pipe leak and it probably has been going on for a while because it had soaked the ceiling tile downstairs. The basement is semi-finished and there's concrete floors down there so the living area is upstairs. If I didn't go down in that room I wouldn't have known there was a problem. So I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and the contractor they sent were good people.
They came out with two guys, told me what work they were going to do, did the work and told me that if I have any problems to let them know. And I didn't have any problems. They were great. I asked them not to leave the door open because there was a cat and they respected the house rules. Since the repair the pipe is not leaking anymore. And this isn't the first call I've had with them. I've had a claim with my water heater before and I've saved $1200 because of them.
AHS seems to do really well. When I first got the contract, which I got when I bought the house, I was like, "Oh, man. This could go either way. It could be bad, it could be good." But the things that are outlined as covered seem to be easily covered. I don't pay for it so I can't say, I get what I pay for. But I got what the previous owner paid for, for sure. I'll probably renew it myself when it comes time. Warranty service, first and foremost, is avoidance of fixing things. It's not insurance but AHS works more like insurance than a warranty and I like that.

After we bought the house, we noticed that the valves that control the water going to the sink were old and leaking when we tried to turn them off. We had to have a plumber come out to replace them and so we phoned in American Home Shield. We filed it the day after we closed on the house, and I'm glad it was a simple process. In my experience, it took an hour to talk to them so that was not positive though. But once I got on the phone, it went fine. One question that I had that I was trying to nail down is the $75 copay per visit for the plumber, so that kind of rubbed me wrong. Also, I had to ask it about five different ways to get a straight answer, and that was the answer.
The contractor sent out was prompt and nice. He went above and beyond what he actually had to do, and he went ahead and replaced three that might have been leaking. He didn't have to do that but he did, so I was very appreciative. I also like that a contractor calls in less than 24 hours - ours took 12 hours which was really fast. We also filed a claim on some termites. I guess American Home Shield is owned by the same company that owns Terminix, so it was a little confusing when we had the termite guy come out as to who we pay, and the Terminix guy was a little unclear on that too. One of my rooms stopped having electricity then another light fixture in the house wouldn’t work. When I filed a claim, the AHS site was good but then they directed me to call. The representative was very helpful and I was very pleased with her. The only thing was I had to talk to her three times. The process was kind of silly in that you submit your claim but then you still have to call. It would have been nice if I didn’t have to do the six-step process. But other than that, the company they referred us to seemed to be a good company.
There were three different people that saw the problem and I even had one person who may not have known what he was talking about. Three electricians saw the same problem but they gave me the same answer. It was unfixable unless I rewired the entire valve. I assumed the reason why the electricity didn’t work in the hallway was because the valve was burnt out. So a new fixture was bought and a valve was put in it. But there was no electricity at all to the fixture. That was the piece the electricians could not repair. Evidently, at some point in the history of the home, the owners had stolen electricity so there was no fix to it.
I had three different workmen and they finally resolved one problem in one area and were able to restore some power to it to the best of their ability. But several others, they were not able to fix. According to the workmen, the work prior to my moving in was not done to code, therefore, they weren't responsible and I would have to deal with it. But for the work that they were allowed to do, they were polite, reasonable and professional.
They arrived within the window for the most part of time that was scheduled. The second time, I was a little annoyed though as there was an emergency that took precedence over me. The person who was supposed to have four hours to do all these projects was called to put in an air conditioner and I got someone who was just kind of a band-aid. The process should've been completed the second time but the guy did very little because there was no longer enough time as it was late in the day. Then a couple of weeks later, I got someone that did the repair. It was a bit annoying since I had to hang out three Saturdays. The blower fan for my heating system, which is a heat pump, failed. In order for the heater to work, the fan’s gotta blow hot or cold air through my house. I happened to be in the basement and I heard a noise which sounded like the motor shorted. I called American Home Shield and a guy came out and said the fan motor was broken so he removed it and then four days later, they brought it back and the owner of the contractor company came back to install it. Right after that, it was working but it was still an air conditioning.
Then a day later, they needed to put on heaters. It got cold overnight so I put on the heat and it was not working. I called and asked the wife of the owner of the company that came out to service it if there was any possibility that they miswired the motor. She said, “Absolutely not.” I said, “All right. I'm gonna call it in” I called AHS. The woman’s son came out and found out what had happened when they were installing or removing the motor. They pulled the wire connector off the thing that allows it to heat up. Once he saw that, he put it back on and everything worked properly.
Now it’s working perfectly. I called the contractor company again and the woman answered the phone. She said, “Oh, that’s our responsibility. It’s our fault and we’re gonna make it good. I’m canceling your service call.” Once she said that I knew I had somebody forthright. The son was terrific and the father was good the first time. I ended up signing a contract with them for service.
The only other time I ever called in a service from AHS was when I had a water heater installed. It was a gas water heater that was very difficult to get. I had it installed and then it wasn't working right. It kept going on and off so I called AHS. The guy came out and he said they didn’t install this properly. But I paid the service charge for that guy to come out and he didn’t do anything. They came out again a day later and fixed whatever the problem was and I paid for that too. I called with an issue on Monday before Thanksgiving. A plumber could not call me back until Friday after Thanksgiving but they came out and try to fix the problem on Saturday. After he fix the water pressure valve he took off and I went to turn on the sink and water was barely flowing out of it. I had to call him back and He adjusted the valve and I had perfect water pressure. I left for an early dinner. After that came home. Someone tried to use the faucets upstairs to take a shower and the pipe started rattling so bad in the house I thought they would burst or come through a wall. So I tried calling the plumbing company again. They were closed for the night. No answer machine. I called Sunday. Again no one was working. No answer machine so I called American Shield back. They called and told him when I talk to them. After being on hold for one whole hour they told me that they would contact another company and they would call me within 2 hours.
After 3 hours I call back American Shield again and after being on hold again for another hour they told me that they will get in contact with me as soon as possible so they could contact me. Now it's Monday. The 2nd plumbing company came out and looked at the issue and they said that they put the water pressure valve in wrong. They called American Shield and was told that they cannot touch the job. They will send out the original company. I called the original company and was told that they cannot come out now until Tuesday to fix this issue.
I called American Shield now clearly upset for good reasons to tell them my problem and they said that there's nothing they could do and I asked for a supervisor to talk to a supervisor. They said they had no supervisors in at the time. I'm now sitting here waiting for the plumber Tuesday. The bottom line is American Shield does not stand behind what they say they could do. They give you the runaround. Their wait time while when you call in is terrible. An hour to wait to talk to someone is way too long. And then they say they have no power over anybody or any company to come out and finish the job that they screwed up to begin with. It sounds like that American Shield does not have companies for emergency situations at all. So in my opinion this is overpriced, overhyped and I will never sign another contract with American Shield again.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I filed my claim online on Monday, June 26. I called AHS on Wednesday June 28 (waited 40 minutes to speak with someone) to ask why I hadn’t heard anything. They said they never got the claim. I filed the claim on the phone (explained that I have a Samsung refrigerator that is leaking) there and then on the phone. They assigned a company to fix the problem. The company called me and asked what the problem was. I explained I have a Samsung refrigerator that is leaking. They said that they do not work on Samsungs. (Of course, I’m wondering why AHS would assign a company that does not work on Samsungs to fix my Samsung).
I called back (and waited another 40 minutes to speak with someone) and was told that AHS would have to actually verify that the company did not work on Samsungs (why would they want to take the word of a customer of 13 years) and that she would call me back that night. Guess what happened? You are right. I never heard back from her or anyone else at AHS. I called again Friday, June 30. This time waited 20 minutes to speak with someone. That someone answered the phone and said that her computer was not working and that I would have to call back. I asked her to transfer me to someone whose computer was working (so I wouldn’t have to wait another 40 minutes). She said that she couldn’t. So I called back, again. This time I waited only 10 minutes (that was refreshing). They asked me what I was calling about.
I asked them if they were kidding. They said that they were not. I then asked who was coming to my house to fix my refrigerator as it had been almost a week and no one is even assigned to fix the fridge yet. What’s worse is that I am doing all the work following up to get that done. If I didn’t, my fridge would never get fixed. The representative I spoke with on Friday, June 30 called and verified that the company I spoke with days ago indeed did not work on Samsung refrigerators. So they assigned another company.
I did not hear anything from the other company on Friday June 30, or Saturday July 1, or Sunday July 2 or Monday July 3 or Tuesday July 4 or Wednesday July 5. Finally, I called them on Wed, July 5 at 11 am and they said that they would come out tomorrow. I asked why I hadn’t heard anything and was told that they only worked half days on Fridays and only worked half a day on Monday. I Googled them. Nothing is returning on either the company or the phone number. (That is another problem we have with AHS. They send jackleg people to your house in panel vans and trucks with no signage (same problem with a water heater claim). The people AHS has sent to our home to fix problems over the years are usually unprofessional, sleazy, have terrible reviews on the internet and often times are trying to sell you something that is not included in the warranty contract.)
Every time we call AHS we wait a ridiculous amount of time to speak to someone. We’re told to file claims online because it saves time. When we tried to file this claim online, AHS claims they never got it. The service we have had with AHS has been horrific. I can honestly say that I have never had worst customer service than with AHS. They deny claims that should be covered, they don’t have enough people to answer their phones (the ones that they do have are rude and unprofessional), when they do actually agree to pay a claim, the people they send to the house are indescribable and have terrible histories, track records and internet reviews. We are pretty sure that we have had a problem with nearly every claim that we have filed with AHS. Every one.
On about a third of our claims, we have actually had to call out another repairman to fix what the AHS guy screws up. We have complained about most problems we have had with AHS and the solution is usually to put us through to one of your folks and comp me the next month of payment. Now things have gotten so bad there that they require you to agree to stay with them for 6 months after they comp you a month. It just keeps getting worse and worse. No one ever tries to fix AHS's problems. And they have a ton of problems. BEWARE!
We definitely want to discuss your concerns with you. A Social Media Specialist has sent you an email in an attempt to open the lines of communication.

As of today, 3 weeks later, no return call... I have tried to CHAT... It's not available. There are several phone numbers, each one the same telephone response system. You cannot reach anyone. Last week on Wednesday I submitted a form for a pipe leak I had in my home. AHS was very fast to reply and send someone out to the house. I thought they were coming to fix the leak but they came out and only looked at the leak and took pictures. They left after 5-10 minutes. So I had to pay my deductible of $100 and then they call me saying that it required additional work and would cost another $150. I don't understand how AHS can send me an email today saying they completed their portion. How is that possible if the leak is still present? And to charge me $100 for 5-10 minutes and still have a leak is ridiculous. Very disappointed in the service.

After I had placed my "negative" review on this site for AHS, dated 11/27/17, Mariah from AHS reached out to me regarding the review. She wanted more information which I provided. I told her about the tech, who lied about my having clothes in the washer when he came out. I told her that when we moved the washer, after purchasing another one, that there was a leak, which the tech did not tell me about. Mariah wanted a copy of the receipt for the washer, which I sent to her. She told me that she would research the situation.
To my surprise, she came back and told me they were going to pay for the replacement washer. I received the check yesterday! I am very happy that AHS stood by their contract. Although, it was extremely frustrating, AHS did the right thing. However, I did cancel my contract when my original claim was denied and I do not have any intentions of going back to AHS or any other warranty/service contract company. I have started to put the money, I would have paid to them, in a separate savings account. Overall, I am satisfied with AHS that they did the right thing.

I requested service on their website. I followed up with the company the next day. They sent someone out the following day. Please note, I could not find the company they sent on the internet! The technician came and took pictures and when he was done, he showed me the pics and stated the motor was done and the wires were fried. He told me that the machine had been overloaded or there was a power surge. I told him that this was the second Bosch wash machine I had and that I know how to load the machine. We did not have any power surges. I called today to find out the status of our claim and they denied it due to "abuse" and "overload" of the machine.
He said nothing about the bearing, which will permanently damage the motor and wires. He submitted his pictures and they denied the claim. I asked about an independent second opinion and they said they wires. Also, the voice mail I received from AHS stated that the tech informed them that "upon arrival he saw that I had overfilled my washer". I didn't have any clothes in my washer when he arrived. He lied! He submitted his pictures and they denied the claim. I asked about an independent second opinion and they said they don't do that. I would have to use one of their technicians. I told them I was not feeling good about that because how would I know AHS would not tell the technician the reason why it was denied.
I told them that they should allow me to have my technician come in and look at my washer, that was it would be totally "objective". I could not do that unless I wanted to pay for the service call. The first technician stated that it would cost over $500 to have it fixed. I told them I didn't want to do that. I asked to cancel my warranty and they transferred me and I waited on hold for 30 more minutes! When I spoke to the person, she said she would cancel my warranty and she hung up! I called again, waited on hold for another 30 minutes and this time the rep told me he would sent a form over to retention to have it cancelled. He said that they would contact me within 24 hrs.
Needless to say, I am not happy about the decision. I think, this is only my opinion, that their "network" technicians know what will deny a claim. As the technician told me, it was either a power surge or overload. As I found out, both causes would be denied. I will not repair the washer. I will go out and buy another one! I will also set aside money to have the repairs done on my own and not worry about a home warranty company. I think they find reasons not to pay out. I called to have my warranty canceled effective immediately and AHS told that I would be RESPONSIBLE for an administration fee equal to one's month payment --- I told him, they are being denied!
Update*** So, we have purchased a new washer. As we were taking out the old one... you know the one that AHS denied the claim and stated that I overfilled the washer. My husband took the back off of the washer and noticed that there was a leak. There was residue from my detergent. The tech never mentioned this to me. According to the internet, a leak could cause damage to the machine and the wiring. (An electrical burning smell may also be caused by a water leak coming into contact with electrical wiring. Both are major concerns and should be addressed immediately. A water leak can cause structural damage in your home and can short out the electrical wiring in your washer and cause additional damage to the machine.)
I did have a burning smell for a while before the machine stopped spinning. I should have called at that time, however I suspect the outcome would have been the same. I am still not over the fact that the tech lied about my having clothes in the washer when he came out. And not I am disgusted that the tech did not mention to me about the leak. Really, I am not a repair person, but water and wires... I think that would have set off red flags. The very BEST advice that I could tell someone is to STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE from this company. They are a rip off!
I understand your f5ustration with the service you received to have your washer machine repaired. Also, I understand that your biggest concern was with the diagnosis and denial of the washer being overloaded. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issue.

So I called American Home Shield to come and check and repair whatever needed to be repaired. And then somebody came to look at the furnace. We showed him what was the deal and he said there was nothing wrong with the system. It was working fine and it was just old. The contractor was on time and they accommodated my wish to get in there early. They’ve given me a two hour window but they were there fairly early.
When the gentleman was leaving, I wanted to pay but he said nothing was due and now, I've been getting all these messages from American Home Shield saying that I owe $75 which is the service charge. I don't know whether they’ve changed the system that it used to be that we pay the person or company who comes. So if there's something changed, they need to communicate that because I didn’t know and I thought it was strange when the gentleman said there was nothing due. And then now, they're hounding me on email.

And then, the following day, I got a call from the service company to set a schedule within two to three working days. AHS is worth the value and helps you save. I'd tell others to definitely get it. AHS was given to us by the previous homeowner that we bought the house from but it expires within a year. I only opened one support request with American Home Shield and it is still open at this point in time. Three weeks ago my dryer was not drying adequately. They came out for the third time this morning. The same company replaced a couple of different parts. I prefered to just call and speak to a person before when submitting a claim but with this claim I called in twice and both times the wait times were horrendous and I ended up just opening up a request online.
So if there's any one thing that I would comment on is the fact that it's impossible to get hold of them over the phone. And my calls have not been on a Monday when I can understand that they're busy. I've called different days of the week, different times and it's like they still have long hold times. So either they need to increase on number of people on answering the phones or totally do away with the phone service. But I'm only working with one contractor now and they've all been very professional, easy to contact and keep in touch with on that ongoing issue. I've also had American Home Shield before and they've been good.

My dryer wasn't getting hot enough and had several different people come out. The first guy said it's upstairs and it vents to the outside. He told us to clean the vent, and sure enough, there was a dead bird in there. But he couldn't do that, so he left it at that. And then with the second guy, we ended up having some sort of controller replaced. But it still wasn't right and it seemed like there's another one in there too. Then the last guy figured out what the problem was and it was funny because he ordered the parts which was wrong, but when he opened it up and saw what was going on, he ended up doing the right thing. We finally got results on that.
Everything else has been great. We've had other calls and they fixed everything like when I had someone out for the oven. We thought the oven had died but it was just a lever that needed to be pushed which my house cleaner must have pushed when she was cleaning the inside. Nobody would come out because of the brand. It went on and on, but the American Home Shield ladies were more than helpful and kept working on it to figure things out. Another one was when my microwave died and they replaced it which was worth $2600. I've been with American Home Shield for more than two years and I'm really happy with them. They're great and I'd recommend them to everybody.

I loved American Home Shield so much I also bought my mom and stepdad the policy. I told them that if something breaks down, American Home Shield will come fix it and they don't need to worry about it. And then when I got it, they have a septic tank. The rep asked me if I wanted to add the $40 extra deal to cover the septic tank. He said it’s only good for the first one year and the first-time buyer, so I told him to add it on. Lo and behold, they have a septic problem, and my mom calls in, and they told her she’s not covered. They had to get it fixed, so it cost them $700.
So I got to the bottom of it, and American Home Shield said they didn’t add that coverage to my plan. But one of the main supervisors said they'll go back to the recording and if I agreed to add it then they will have to honor it and I'll get reimbursed. This started in June and every time I call in I always get told that somebody will call me back. And then a couple of weeks go by and I call back, and I deal with the same things. I have to repeat my story every time. They do document every single thing that was done or said and who got email, but for some reason the supervisors just blow me off like I don't matter. And I've been nice to everybody that I've talked to.
I've used them a couple of times over the years and it has worked out really good. When my hot water went out, I called American Home Shield and somebody came out in a couple of days and they replaced it. That part was excellent. But I'm paying them for two policies which is $1000 a year and I'm still waiting if they are going to do the right thing or not for my mom.

American Home Shield is a great company, but it takes too long to respond to a repair. If you want something done, it shouldn’t take three days because it's too long. There are companies that I’m checking into that takes 24 hours. If your hot water heater is leaking or if your AC is not working, or your range is not working, you don’t want to wait three days or three weeks to get a compressor in but that's what they've been taking me through. I called AHS back and I said, “I don’t want to deal with the first pool company anymore either because they don’t know what they're doing.” So, they sent out another pool company and those guys fixed the problem. Once they got a pool pump up, they said, “Oh, your heater is not working either.” So then, they came back and fixed the heater. I was very happy with the pool company. Everything was working and then we closed the pool. AHS charged $100 for the pump and then $100 for the heater. I would tell a friend that AHS is great. They have good response time but some of their contractors aren’t that good. They have to do a quick Yelp search to get the name of the contractor and see if they have any reviews and then use their best judgment. If they don’t want that company, they could call back and request another company.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a pump that wasn't working correctly. Their contractor was excellent. He diagnosed the problem correctly on a Friday and he contacted American Home Shield and got their okay for the repairs. He got the parts ordered and when he came back out that Monday, he had the part with him and got things done in a reasonable amount of time and it works great. I have breathing problems and without air conditioning, it can be brutal. I'm very happy with him and I'm going to continue with AHS.

I filed a claim over the phone with American Home Shield and it was a little bit of a long wait. I waited around 30 minutes on hold but besides that things went fine. I called them for a fan that broke. It looked like it was going to fall out of the ceiling and they resolved the problem. So far I'm really happy and satisfied with American Home Shield and I've recommended them to two friends.

We've had American Home Shield for 18 years and my kids kept telling me to get rid of them. But I figured that if my husband thought it was good enough to keep then I would. So far, some of the people who came out had questionable professionalism and they didn't ever let me know of what they were doing. I've had some good ones though who were nice. There was one bad condition in September 2016 with the air conditioning people. Someone was supposed to come out for my air conditioner but they never showed up. I had to go get my son's air conditioning people to come fix the problem and I had to pay a lot of money.
I have two issues too. One, I have a pressure valve that had gone bad. GOS plumbing came and put in new valves on some new heaters I had. That was supposed to take care of everything and they put a pressure of 70 which supposedly was the average and it was fine. But I was gone for two weeks and when I came back, I've had problems with the pressure. There is a lot of air in the lines and there's popping when I flush one of the toilets. When I turn on the water, it seems fine but it's just dripping.
I've been trying to get a technician out here for about a week or so. I stayed all day yesterday, thinking they were coming, but they never did. The biggest issue I have is I can't get them out to either call me and say they're coming and set a time. They just call you and you never know when they're coming then nobody shows up. And you end up wasting your whole day waiting. I've had to call them several times. I was told a technician was coming out today but he should have called me this morning and should have given me an idea.
The other problem is with my refrigerator. They came out and checked it to see if they could fix it. They couldn't so I'm supposed to get a new refrigerator. They sent me an email that said I can either choose a fridge comparable to the one I have or I can get $1600 to buy my own. I've not dealt with that though because I left town and I've been gone for two weeks. But I want someone to help me with that. I get so much advertisement in the email that I can't find the email they sent. When I called about the fridge, I was told it was going to be an hour wait so I hung up. I was told to go online but haven't had the chance to do so yet. I don't like not having anybody to talk to. When I try to call, I get a recording. I'm not that great with computers so it's nice to be able to have a number where I can call and talk to somebody. I'm not satisfied with my experience and AHS needs to improve.

We have been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years. They have very good service before. However, we didn't have very good experience with our plumbing claim. Sometimes, it seems the left of American Home Shield does not know what the right hand is doing. We normally don't even use them for months and months, and years and years. So, the need came up. We have a rental and I was made to understand that the problem came from the septic tank. AHS gave us a company and the company said, "No, we don't do work for American Home Shield". The plumbing company wasted my time in contacting them for hours and they said that they don't do the pumping. They could not find a single company there to do septic tank pumping. And nobody wanted to work with them. That was a very frustrating experience.
Now, we are paying from our own pocket, and their rep Shirley who was in the customer retentions unit apologized and said, "I will take care of this". She gave me an email address but they never responded to email nor a phone call. They should at least tell us what's the next thing. When the company is backing out of the customer, AHS should force them so that it has to be done or they can file a lawsuit. I have still not sorted it out with AHS. If they don't cover it, I want the $100 we paid in the bank refunded as well as the $30 we paid for the additional septic tank. They should not keep that either since it's not resolved. I am very, very upset about this. They haven't resolved, they don't return the calls, and they've given me a special email, but nothing after that.
We have them in California and we asked for the plumbing guy for a broken knob in the toilet unit, the thing that flushes the toilet. The Amazing Plumbing Service was absolutely unprofessional. We have had very good experience before, so we don't think that it's all just like this, but this part of the company is very unhelpful and very unfriendly. What they did was not very nice. We have a very expensive toilet, so I bought the proper knob. The AHS rep asked me one dozen questions and then she told me, "Yes, this is covered". And when this guy from the plumbing service comes to me, he said, "No. I have to check with American Home Shield." This is one other unresolved with them. They told me, it is not covered because it is outside the house, but it is attached to the house. So, we were not very happy. It was absolutely horrendous. I almost thought about switching to some other company and I have not given up that thought yet.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service for AHS to find a contractor that works o septic systems. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

A month ago I came home from work and my house was hot. I submitted my claim online and it was super simple, easy and fast. And as soon as I submitted it, the reps at AHS said that they would have somebody call me within two to three days, but I got a phone call the very next day. And an appointment was scheduled with the contractor they hired. The tech was awesome, got the job done quickly and was very friendly. I was really pleased with the way everything was handled.

Recently I had to have the complete air conditioning system replaced. I had just bought the house and the seller didn't have it serviced and checked like he was supposed to. It wasn't until after we had everything done and moved in that we found out it wasn't working. It was a long wait to submit a claim over the phone, but it was very easy to go through the website and put down what it was I needed to have checked. The website was also very user-friendly. They sent a rep to check out and troubleshoot the original cause. When they determined that the whole system would be better replaced, they had the person meet with me and talked about the system. We made an appointment and a company called Greenway showed up, then it was done in a few hours. It's nice to know that our AC is brand-new. It's got a good warranty on it for parts and labor 'cause it's from Trane. It's a nice system. They hooked it all up and it runs great.
I had to call a couple of weeks ago because I kept getting an email about owing $75, but I had already paid that. When they initially came out, I had to pay a $75 charge. Then, the same place came back again to put in the new AC system. I was wondering why they were trying to charge me twice, but with Home Shield, that was supposed to be a one-time $75 charge. I don't know if it was just something that was delayed, and I haven't received an email so I assume that was taken care of. I would highly recommend American Home Shield overall, especially on buying a home. The people there are very helpful, professional and they will take care of whatever issue it is you have. It's worth the money.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for a leaking pipe which started in October. The first contractor that came out told my husband that they had fixed the leak. When they left my also husband left and went to work. I wasn't at home at the time too. When I got home I checked on what they claimed they had repaired which was a faucet in my backyard and I saw that they made two holes in my master bedroom closet to get to that pipe. The faucet turned 360 degrees so it was not fixed, just temporarily repaired. I called American Home Shield back to complain about this they told me that the contractors told them that they repaired everything. I also told them that they have to come back and fix the toilet that they forgot to fix. I also put that on the repair order but they didn't fix it at the time.
The contractor came back the second day to repair the toilet and my husband also told them about the faucet that they claimed that they repaired. The plumber told my husband that it was temporarily repaired and it would be $300 to fix it the correct way so my husband told them that they never told us that yesterday. I had to call American Home Shield back to complain again. I told them that I didn't want that contractor back in my home, that I wanted a second opinion and I needed another contracting company to come out.
They sent another plumber out from another company and that plumber told my husband that the faucet wasn't repaired correctly and that it was a temporary fix and that they must get back with us on how the repairs were going to proceed from there. American Home Shield hasn't repaired anything yet and they haven't sent the contractors back out. I still have two holes in my closet and a faucet that's still not repaired a month later so I'm very upset and disappointed in the service that I've received from them. It has been a horrible and disappointing experience.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I heard about American Home Shield from one of my friends from my church. She’s had them for the past 15 years and she loves them. So when I purchased a condo, I also got AHS based on what she said. I used a different company before but I didn't like them. I quit the service because when my furnace went out, it took me three weeks to get it running. I had no heat during the winter but they took their time before they sent people out to fix the issue. Then they called me when they knew that their contract was almost up, but I said no way.
Compared to that, my experience with American Home Shield has been great. When my garbage disposal was leaking water underneath my sink, I called to file a claim and the wait time was not that long. I got immediate results and I liked that. Also, the guy that they sent out was excellent and he only had to come out that one time. He was very professional, too.

The water heater just stopped working over a month ago, and we called American Home Shield and the reps were very helpful. They took the request and submitted it, but it was a very long wait. The contractor they sent out was someone I've worked with when we had some issues many years ago and it was a very positive experience. We had someone come initially and they tried to fix the igniter, but that didn’t work. I had to light it up every time, so if we needed water I had to go down and ignite and then wait. Sometimes it would heat up, but sometimes it wouldn’t so it was a very big pain.
The people came back and said there was a leakage and they needed to change the entire unit. And I've had no issues since then. But there were a few things that American Home Shield didn’t cover that the contractor put in so we had to shell out $500, which is a lot given that we take the annual insurance. The service is great, but the coverage can do better and we shouldn’t have to pay out of our pocket as much.

American Home Shield has always been great. We've had them in the previous house for many, many years and then, we moved into this house two months ago. I've always had extremely good service from them. I've had primarily good interaction with contractors as well. The repair they did for the recent plumbing issue was perfect. However, they sent out some who were unqualified for the problem I've had a time or two. They're good but they can always be better. The only thing I would complain about American Home Shield is the process of sending a representative to validate the need for the claim. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with them and I would recommend them highly.

But I ended up calling them 'cause it was already a day and a half later that the rep said she's getting ready to call me. The guy that came out was super nice, and was right on time. But he's going to come back and they had to order some part. He will have it in with the beginning of the week and then he said he'd call me to make an appointment to come and put it in. AHS is awesome and I have encouraged my sister and one of my really good friends to get it.

My thermostat wasn’t working and I wasn’t sure if it was an actual thermostat issue or it was an electric. But it was actually just a thermostat had gone bad. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield on the phone, which was all automated and very easy. The tech did not take long to come out. The length of time was basically due to me because they wanted to come out early. But, with my work schedule for the window they had set, they kind of worked around my schedule. He knew what he was doing. He didn’t have what I needed so he put a temporary thermostat up. And then, he had to come back and order a programmable one. I’m satisfied, and I do recommend them quite often.

We've had a fabulous experience with American Home Shield. Something in the air conditioner was sort of blocking something and it was stuck up there on the roof. I called AHS and got a rep who was very clear and helpful. The contractor was a local company that they had authorized. The technician couldn't have been better. He went up the roof and cleaned out that little part that was stuck and he said it was working fine after that. We then changed the filter inside and it was fine. They hardly charged anything to do it too. Everything worked perfectly afterward. We sold our home about a month ago and AHS was wonderful about the switch. We had them for about seven years and I would refer them. The people who moved in were going to go with American Home Shield, too.

Whenever I file a claim with American Home Shield, the company they contract with contacts me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Then they come out and evaluate the situation, go back to American Home Shield to find out if the problem is covered and then they schedule the repairs. We had a company come back because they forgot to hook up one of the pipes which meant if we had had another issue, it would have flooded our garage, so we took care of that.
I have contractors I prefer to work with and when you go through someone like American Home Shield to a point you’re locked in to their people initially. There are pluses and minuses to that. We’re in a large city and it's great if you can get somebody out to come out relatively quickly to ascertain what the problem is. And I have had an issue when the hot water heater went out year ago and they said they would send someone to replace it. We had someone we preferred to work with and they said, “Okay. This is the replacement cost.” And they allowed us to bring out our guy and they sent me a check for that amount.
I've been a customer of American Home Shield since 2009 and I will renew it. If you have a claim, it definitely more than pays for itself. I pay under $800 a year and I just got a brand new hot water heater that is the same brand that I had. They replaced it and that would have cost me $1,200 just for the hot water heater and not counting repairs. That's great value right there. My house is 22 years old and we go to great lengths to keep up with everything. But even with that, unexpected things happen so I would recommend people look into American Home Shield. I have a friend who now signed up with them based on my experience, and they researched other companies themselves and American Home Shield offered the best coverage.

He fixed it within about two hours and he did a great job. I was billed $83 to my credit card for the service. That saved me a little money as having an electrician come out would have probably cost me $150. It was a very short and effective experience.
