I was having an electrical issue in my house and I called American Home Shield to set up a claim and put in the list of my issues. They were quick to schedule someone for me and the company that they sent out was really excellent. I was very pleased with their work and I was completely happy all the way around. Having American Home Shield is the best decision I ever made.

I filed claims for my air conditioner and my dryer and I’m old-school, so I usually do claims over the phone. Generally I like to speak to someone and my experience has been very good. The techs were very good, professional, prompt and accurate in their information, so I was impressed. We had another situation before and it was fine up until a few other times, but I switched because of timeliness of getting things once I filed the claim. American Home Shield has excellent customer service and it's money well-spent.

I have four service requests and we're still having issues with at least half of those. We had inoperable ovens in our kitchen and it took a week for someone to get out and take a look at the unit. Everything since then has been downhill. It took American Home Shield another two weeks to make a determination on whether it was repairable or replaceable then I received a follow-up another week after that. So it took three weeks to make some determination to get me some idea of what was going on. What they proposed wasn't going to work and I'm still going round and round with them about the replacement options.

I have had to call them multiple times to ask and I have finally reached them after five days of trying to get through. I've been on hold greater than 45 minutes each time yet no one had picked up. One time, I was even on the line for over a hundred minutes. Yesterday, after close to an hour of being on hold, someone finally picked up and was very apologetic and nice. She went ahead and resubmitted my request to see if they could replace with something that would be more like of what we have. It's been going on for a month now and all along, we've had an inoperable oven and microwave so my wife has not been happy.

One other claim in particular was on having our locks re-keyed. It wasn't necessarily American Home Shield's problem but the contractor Rekey messed around for at least three weeks, trying to get somebody out, which was really unheard of. I can call locksmiths and have somebody here by the end of the day. Especially with the sense of safety and security, that was a concern. I kept getting an excuse from the Rekey representative that the gentleman just had a baby and he's been busy. I understand that and am sympathetic but AHS needs to be able to use a vendor that's going to handle the business. AHS needs to either terminate their agreement or have a stern conversation with them about how they're handling their business.

I have made half a dozen calls about getting the locks re-keyed and they'd say they'd follow up with me and they'd get somebody else out there but I wouldn't hear back from them every time. So on the final attempt, the rep was going to call another vendor and promised to contact me about this. She sent me an email at approximately 10:00 in the evening, saying they have contacted another vendor who would contact me in the morning. A different locksmith called me and they were able to get out within a couple of days. I've not been totally dissatisfied with American Home Shield but there's certainly a lot of room for improvement there.

Submitting a claim with AHS for my leaking AC was easy. I contacted them by phone and they were able to respond within the same day. They contacted the company and sent a guy to fix the AC. The tech was very professional and had a lot of experience. He had worked in my home before doing maintenance, so I knew the guy a lot. He was able to fix the issue within 20 min. I've been with AHS for 35 years, and aside from a couple of issues where we had to call back and follow up on what was going on, the experience has been generally positive.

We’ve been with American Home Shield since 2004. The first was with me and then when Barbara, my wife, and I got together the account was switched to her.

Sometimes I wish that I've gotten her more help or information but in the overwhelming majority the service is remarkable. The service of their contractors has always been pleasurable part of it. People come and they know what they’re doing. They do the job well. There were very, very few call backs because of one thing or another. They’ve been particularly polite, professional and knowledgeable. I've only had to get rid of one of them. I recommend it to about everybody I know who has a home. The whole system works very, very well.

When I purchased the home I have now, the people prior to me was using American Home Shield so it just continued on. I've been with them since 2008. I like the level of service that’s being provided and they keep their promises. The companies that AHS use to repair my appliances are fine so I'm pleased with that. I like having a sense of protection that if something goes out that’s under my contract, it will be taken care of for a very small amount to pay out. Their representatives are very knowledgeable but I rarely speak to them. I go online most of time and do a service request. They get back to me about the submitted claim in 24 hours. And the contractors they send are very professional. My air conditioner was excellent after the repair.

The representative who signed me up was very patient with me and gave time for me to make my decision on switching to American Home Shield. She was very informative, very persistent and consistent. AHS had extra amenities as opposed to who I was with before, and this is our first month with them. The first time I submitted a claim wasn’t hard at all. It was a phone call and it went straight through. Our pool motor went out so I called American Home Shield. They had someone come out and repair it. They’ve been very on time, very knowledgeable and organized.

The technician showed that he really knew what he was doing. He went through all the scenarios of what could be the problem and what actually was the problem. We were able to find that out right away and put it together really quick. The pool got real messy after the storm and once the motor was in, within a couple of days, it was ready to go. My pool and pump are working.

I got a leak in the bathroom walls. A drain pipe broke or someone unplugged a bathtub and the water came out of the bathtub and the commode. We already know what it is but it doesn't seem like I can get it done. AHS is a good company. However, we're taking too long for this project. They have been sending the wrong young people out here and I'm ready to get this stuff done. They sent me 3 different contractors out here and they don't know how to fix it. I got different diagnoses and it's been a hectic thing with them. One wants to go through the kitchen walls and one wants to go through the bathroom walls and take the shower out, which I was planning to do anyway. But it isn't my decision, I just want it fixed.

I go and tell American Home Shield to get the company and they won't come back and do it. I can't take a shower and if I take a shower, I’ve got to get the water out of the bathtub and pour it in the commode. AHS needs to send some experienced and older people. The youngsters, they might have been schooled and know something, but the older dudes, they got the experience and then did it before. They better do something.

I've filed claims online with American Home Shield but at times that I've used it, I've ended up having to call anyway. The website was user-friendly except when we had two AC issues two weeks apart and the AHS website wouldn't let me put in a claim for the AC online because I had already done a claim on the AC recently. I had to make sure I called in. Then when I did the pool, I called on that one too because when I went through and looked at what's covered, it didn’t specify the specific part that needed replacing so I had to ask them questions.

The biggest challenge recently was when we had a gas leak. I honestly don’t know if that would have been covered, but I didn’t even try to use American Home Shield because the turnaround time is slower than just calling someone myself. If I put the claim in one day, I never get a call back from the people until pretty much at late afternoon or the following day. They can never come out the same day so it feels like waiting 48 hours to actually get it worked on versus calling someone directly that can typically come the next day.

I filed a claim with AHS over the phone for an AC was not cooling down and their response was quick. The contractor called me to make sure that the time for coming to my house was the right one and they also texted me reminding me of the appointment. The AC is cooling down now the way it was before. I already put another claim a few weeks ago because the toilet was leaking and I might have to put another one. We bought a house and we just moved in this weekend. I’ve been using some things in the house and I have noticed plumbing issues again, so I’m just going to wait until I find everything.

Sometimes it’s hard to find somebody to talk over the phone for a small question. When I put the claim for the AC, I have to call that day and request that I have two units and I was on wait for a little bit. It wasn’t a big deal, but I would have preferred to do the repair a day or two or when I put the claim. But I wasn't given an option to leave a message or add additional things because the AC is not working but I don’t know which one is not working. And sometimes, it’s hard to find the number. If you are a member or if you have to pay for the coverage, they should provide a different phone number that you can speak with somebody. So far, it’s costing us whatever is not covered but I’m happy.

American Home Shield was recommended by a friend when I bought my house. I had two claims on my air conditioner and those were handled the same day. I had a claim on my dryer, ceiling fan, water heater, and I’m currently in the middle of a claim for my microwave, which is the only time I have been unhappy. The contractor came out right away and said he'll let me know whether it's going to be repaired or replaced. He was good about that and I was told it was gonna be replaced, so I needed to order one and I was given the link for ordering. I waited four days before I ordered but I still haven’t gotten the microwave so I had to call the company that’s going to deliver and install the microwave. I called them on Friday and they said they didn’t have it, so I challenged them and they said they have it and that they'll deliver it on Tuesday.

When I asked what time, they said they'll let me know on Monday. It’s Wednesday and I called on Tuesday late afternoon. They said the order just arrived and that they’ll deliver it the following day but they’re going to call me today and tell me when they’re going to deliver it. The woman who answered the phone sounds like she's sitting on the couch, watching something. I have three millennial kids at home, they don’t cook and I'm still waiting for my microwave. It’s been over three weeks and the company doing the installation isn’t as top-notch as all the other representatives I've had.

I usually file claims over the phone and they tell me to pay the vendor for the service call, so I expected to pay the vendor in two cases and they said I'll get a bill in the mail from American Home Shield. Then I got an e-mail saying my payment was delinquent, but I never got a bill. I paid that, called again and paid another one. I got a bill last week right after I paid, but we got that cleared up. It’s a new way of paying and I wasn't aware that they do it that way.

Generally, the contractors have been great. But I have one friend who has American Home Shield and he hates them because they said it was gonna be over two weeks for an air conditioner call. I told him that’s really funny because I called AHS twice and the contractor came out the same day when I called during the week. When I called on a weekend, they couldn’t send people out on the same day but they offered to let me call somebody on my own and then have American Home Shield reimburse me, which they did and that was perfect. I've had AHS for 6 years and they’re great. I'm satisfied with them.

I had to cancel with one guy and then try to call back and wait another 30 minutes, and then they put in the request for our guy to come and do it. It’s been a while since our AC went out, and Tony handled it. The fan was making a rattling noise and it was the outside unit. Tony has been here before and he knew about it and he told us when it was going to need to be replaced, and he did. We love our contractor who does all of our appliances. He’s great, and the performance of the appliances since the repairs has been excellent. Original Review: Nov. 12, 2017

We could not find any place on American Home Shield's website to file a complaint; hence we are doing so through BBB. We would have preferred to first attempt to do so through the company, but neither the website nor the phone maze indicate this as an option. We spent over 3 hours on hold with American Home Shield (Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, 2017). After spending hours on the phone, re-explaining the plumbing problem... we finally reached a representative who authorized that an outside contractor could do the work and they would need to call and submit the diagnosis and estimate. Once the plumber arrived, I was on hold for another hour. Finally we reached a representative who spoke with the contractor.

I had asked for a callback number in case we got disconnected because we could not wait another hour to reach a representative. (According to AHS, the contractor cannot work without pre-approval!). The employee was very upset that we requested a number in case we were disconnected. She said we could call the main number back. When I explained that the wait is over an hour, she was upset and said she needed to talk with the contractor, not me. When the contractor explained that the main line was clogged, she asked if there was an access point. He replied that he did have access and she said that the job would not be covered. My husband got on the phone to ask why it would not be covered, since yesterday 2 separate employees reassured us that plumbing stoppages were covered. She got upset with my husband and said she would only speak with the contractor.

The contractor spoke with her and when she asked for the estimate the contractor was ATTEMPTING to explain that they break down their fees: $135/hour + $50 snake fee and that he estimates the job would be 2.5 hours. Hence, the estimated total would be $387.50. However, the employee repeatedly cut him off and indicated that they would cover $135 (minus our $75 fee). My husband tried to re-explain that $135 was NOT the cost of the job and the employee hung up on him. We hope BBB will follow up with the company. The final cost ended up being $330. Minus the $75 copay would mean that AHS should reimburse us $255. We look forward to a favorable resolution in this regard. We highly recommend that the employee involved receive training on proper phone etiquette and handling of conflict. THANK YOU for your assistance! God bless.

Called for service to replace leaking water heater that was installed by AHS service provider (4) yrs ago. Now for replacement of the unit, they want an additional $230 dollars for removal and installation? I called to discuss my dissatisfaction with the additional charges and expressed my concerns...no modifications have been made to the unit nor have there been any modifications to any access points. They would not work with me to reduce or remove any charges. I was told that I would have to be my own advocate and call the service provider to remove or lower any charges; to me that is unacceptable! Why have the warranty with them in the first place. I am canceling service as soon as the repairs are completed. Do Not Use this company!

We have been AHS members for the past 3 yrs and have rarely submitted a claim. Our water heater blew out on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. We promptly submitted a claim by 7:30 am online and the contractor they appointed of course is not opened on weekends... We called the AHS support line 4 times on Saturday to try for another contractor but had to wait on hold for at least 45 mins each time and was hung up on 3 of the 4 times by AHS "support" personnel. Finally got in touch with someone at AHS on Sunday morning and was told I must allow 24 business hours for the dispatched contractor to reach out, which means we could not hear from someone until Tuesday morning... If we do not hear from someone by Tuesday AHS will dispatch another contractor and give them 24 hrs to respond. And the cycle continues!

If this is the type of service I can expect, I WILL be canceling the contract with AHS. Seems like it should be illegal to take my yearly subscription fee and NOT be able to provide a prompt service as stated on their website... I'm not the type to post online reviews, however this may be the only way to get a response from an AHS employee.

I was with American Home Shield about five or six years ago. It was an excellent experience. I had financial difficulty, so I had to let them go. I got back with them six months ago and the service just doesn’t seem to be the same to me. I highly recommended them to a few friends but I was a little disappointed. I have a few reasons why. My refrigerator went out on me and my wife. So I called American Home Shield to get this thing repaired. Submitting a claim was a little bit more difficult than what I expected.

Once I filed the claim, the guy came out. I thought we are about to get our refrigerator fixed. Then he says that it was basically uneconomically repairable. Which is what he put in his report. He left and I didnt hear from American Home Shield. Two weeks have passed and all this time, I and my wife didn't have a refrigerator. They apologized. My claim was lost in the paperwork somewhere. So they said that they need to send another guy out. I'm like, “Okay. That’s fine. I just want it fixed.”

They sent out another guy. He came out a couple of days later. He did the same thing. After reading my contract, I contacted American Home Shield a week later only to tell us that they need to send out another repairman. So another repairman came out. So this is what the problem was. During that time, I've lost $100 worth of food. I went ahead and took that hit. What they did, they authorized me to get a dorm size refrigerator. I did that. It took two months after when I first called in when it was resolved. I don’t know whether to deem it as personnel qualified or not. American Home Shield told me that they need somebody that specializes in that type of refrigerator. But once again, lo and behold, this so-called specialist came out and he echoed the same remarks as the first two repairmen that came out. It was frustrating and the wife wasn’t happy at all. We worked it out.

Something I learned through trial and error with them is that one needs to read the fine print and be aware that almost always, there's going to be an additional cost to the homeowner on top of what it says on the contract. Several years ago, I had to have my water heater replaced. I live in Southern Nevada, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and apparently, there's a fault line somewhere near here. They required that I had to put earthquake straps on the new model since they weren't code-required when it was originally installed. I had to go out and purchased the earthquake straps to put on the water heater before they'd sign off on it. That was an extra fee above the normal fee that I paid for having to replace the item.

Once I realized what was going on, I've had a much easier time with them. My most recent claim with them was for the outdoor light on my back patio that was malfunctioning. I submitted a claim for it with American Home Shield online. I did it in the evening, and the next morning, the company called me to set up the appointment. We set up the appointment for the next day. They came out, looked at the issue and determined it was the fixture. I then purchased a replacement and they put it up and everything was fine. I would recommend AHS to other people because their yearly cost is worth the money in case something really big goes wrong.

I started with American Home Shield in Denver, Colorado in 2012 and they were always responsive and good in following up if need be. I had issues with upstairs plumbing and I put in a request for assistance online. The system immediately put that request out but in the meantime I called the plumbing company to come help as well.

The plumbing company responded the next day and they found the problem and fixed it. They were helpful and they even called up the company itself to order replacement parts for Delta faucets. Eventually the pieces came in to the house and I have them now in case I have another issue with another faucet. However, besides the $100 response fee, they charged an additional $50. I was okay with it once they explained to me what it was for though. Since the leak was upstairs, it meant that water traveled on the ceiling below it. That created another issue, but we got it fixed. I’m satisfied for what AHS did and I’ve recommended them too.

My experience with American Home Shield has been interesting so far. While the plumbing problem in my house was solved, my electrical problem isn't. What happened was, they found radon when I had the house inspected. Some company came out and installed a radon pump but they wired the switch wrong, which fried my master circuit breakers. Now they're causing problems with the electrical going on and off intermittently.

So, I submitted a claim online with American Home Shield because when I call them, I'm on hold forever. They had Lynch Electric come out and look at it. The person they sent fixed the switch on the radon pump and the electricity went back to work until he left. And then, it went dark again. Plus, it added not only just my bedroom and the two bathrooms but also my kitchen to the entire north wall of the house. So I had him come back out again. I found out if I went downstairs and flipped the breakers, it would all come back on.

However, he couldn't find anything wrong when he showed up so he left again. After that, it went dark once more. I left the house dark for several days until he came back. By then, he figured it out that it was my master breakers that were bad. Now, they're supposed to make an appointment with the Board of Public Utilities to come out and pull the meters so he can replace the breakers because they're hot all the time.

Since it is not yet resolved, I'm running the north half of my house on extension cords from the south half of my house. Other than that, American Home Shield has been really good. It's the company they sent that I have a problem with. And while the guy they sent out was really nice and really helpful, Lynch Electric isn't doing their best to get this problem resolved.

I had a plumbing issue and filing a claim with AHS online was easy. The plumbing contractor was very prompt. Since then, the plumbing has been fine. In another time, an HVAC contractor was prompt with his initial visit, but there was a delay in parts and scheduling. He seemed like a small operator, so time was in demand. This warranty was provided as part of my home purchase, and it has worked fine. We have gotten some benefits from it. But it is probably not something that I would do if I were paying for it.

We kept losing our oven light. I went online and made a claim for it with American Home Shield. They're a good company. As soon as we made the claim, the company called me to schedule an appointment the very next day. I asked them to come at 10 in the morning but they were here at 9:15. They even called us about coming early and we told them no, but they still did. When the contractor they sent out came, he tightened up the oven's hinges and he charged us the $75 for the deductible. It caught me off guard because they told us that we would only pay the deductible after the service has been completed. He told us that he still needs to order parts, so the service is not yet finished. He did come back out and completed the service by installing the parts, but it happened a week later.

We just bought the house and have had American Home Shield for three months. The pool’s fine but the bathroom’s not. The electrician that came out told me that he couldn’t do anything and they still charged me $75. I’m also extremely disappointed with the plumbers. I can’t get them back out here. They never followed up and they haven’t done their job right. The only time we’ve used the service that has worked out well for us was the pool guy. All the rest has been a very large disappointment. It also takes 45 minutes to wait and to speak to somebody. I can’t get anybody to fix my problem because I don’t have 45 minutes to wait on the phone. You can’t recall somebody out online and you have to call. Overall, when things have been done, it’s been fine. But AHS's customer service times are atrocious.

That was when hurricane Harvey was hitting and it got delayed for one day because of the flooding. But it's summer here in Texas and I can't stay in our house. So, we were out of our house for about a full week. But, they were friendly and helpful throughout that. They just came in and had it all replaced in one morning. Buyer beware: American Home Shield will only provide you service Monday - Friday, unless their system determines otherwise, not the people with brains that work there, but their system that was built to "take all the guesswork out" for their customer service reps. We have had American Home Shield for more than two years, but after today, I am ready to cancel my contract with them. Our heater decided to stop working today, a Saturday, and the temperature outside is a high of 42 and low of 37. The temperature inside of our house is 64 degrees. I called to inquire about expediting our claim to get someone out here sooner due to the circumstances. It took over an hour to finally speak with someone. And when I did I was promptly informed that AHS can only call the company that they have assigned to my "ticket" and see if they can come out sooner.

However, the assigned company has 24 BUSINESS HOURS to schedule a time to come out and fix our issue, and the company assigned to our ticket just happened to be closed today. I was repeatedly reminded by the person I was speaking to that they were following company guidelines and there is nothing else they could do to help me until the assigned company has contacted me within that magical 24 BUSINESS HOURS. I then inquired as to what the company guidelines say in regards to a situation that needed to be handled in less than 24 business hours. The customer service rep told me that she was not able to tell me what their guidelines say. I asked to speak to a manager and was told she didn't have a manager, but could submit a request for someone to call me back, and it could take 48 hours for someone to get back to me.

Surprisingly I was called only a couple hours later by someone else from AHS that was equally unhelpful. I asked this person why I would have to wait until Monday or Tuesday (the 24 BUSINESS HOURS) considering the temperatures currently and expected for the next two days. I was informed that AHS does not deem a non-working heater to be an expedited issue, because their system didn't mark it as so, and therefore they cannot do anything further to assist me. I then inquired about what temperature it would have to be outside for this work order to be expedited. I was told, "Our system does all the work for us so that we don't have to guess. And it doesn't tell us an exact temperature, but I believe that I have seen it happen when the outside temp was 30 degrees."

So what I've been told is that I spend $60/month for a home warranty that is only useful Monday thru Friday, and should I need to have my heater fixed on any other day; i.e. Saturday or Sunday, the outside temperature would have to be BELOW FREEZING! That is utterly ridiculous. I understand that when I actually use their services, they can potentially save me hundreds to thousands of dollars, but since when does things only break during the week? I will be heavily reevaluating my service contract with AHS, and will not recommend them to anyone else.

I called for American Home Shield to come check my furnace and air-conditioner because I was just new to this area and this house. I was having problems with my air conditioning. They scheduled a time and then Miller Plumbing never showed up. A couple of weeks later, I finally called back and rescheduled and then Miller Plumbing called and they said they were very sorry they forgot me. They came the day after I called the second time and I paid the guy that was here. They were supposed to collect $75, each payment in check. I paid and then I was getting notices in my email that I had not paid. I called AHS and I told them I had paid it and it was on a weekend. The rep said, "I'm sorry because I can't take care of it today because I can't call them, it's the weekend. We show that you did not pay." He seemed a little perturbed about it.

I said, "Well, I'll pay. We'll wait 'till Monday. But I did pay." I called the following Monday and they got a hold of Miller Plumbing and that they said all was good. Then I got another email that I had not paid and my account was past due. I called AHS again and I said, "My account should show zero dollars." While I was on the phone, the rep called Miller Plumbing, got back to me and said, "I'm sorry. They said you just paid. So your account is okay."

The technician from Miller Plumbing that was here knew what he was doing because I've had somebody check my air conditioner before but he said he really couldn't find out anything that's wrong with it. It was working after he cleaned it. If I need them again, he's the one that I would like to have come back because he seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing. It worked for two days and then that's when I called American Home Shield because he said he didn't know what was wrong with it. He just cleaned it and everything. Then the guy from Home Shield came out on the 28th and said that it was the compressor. He put a new piece on and it seems to be running fine after that. He seems to know what he was talking about. He just checked the furnace and he said that we're good to go for winter.

The air conditioner was blowing hot air, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I called them probably 15 times over this air conditioning issue and they're horrible. The hold time is an hour to speak to a human. At one point, I did get somebody on the phone. But most of the time, you’re forced to use the automated system. So you can either go online or you’re on hold for an hour and it’s the automated system.

They sent out a kid who is new and has been doing repairs for a little while. He puts Freon in there. Then there was some confusion about the service charge. I knew there was a $75 fee if somebody comes out, but I didn't know who to pay it to and I couldn't get anyone there to tell me. The contractor said that I should pay him and then AHS sent me a bill for it. A month later, it got hot again, so I figured there was a leak. I wanted them to do a leak test, but the guy told me to call back in a month and they'll have someone else come out to do that test. So I had to beg them to do the leak test. Then the same kid never learned how to do it and he told me that it was his first leak and he just put more Freon in it. I have cold air right now, but I still don't think it's fixed. It was a waste of $400.

They were out here three times. The guy at AZ plumbing said that he couldn’t have someone out here until Saturday, so I was expecting Saturday. Then, someone came on Thursday or Friday. So there’s horrible communication which gave me a hard time. American Home Shield was part of negotiation when I bought the house. But they did such a bad job with the air conditioner that now I'm replacing my water heater and I'm not even going to bother with them. Hopefully, we’ll never use them.

My mom changed our AHS policy slightly to include the spickets outside. But when the two of them broke and I asked the plumbers to come out to change them, it turned out that the policy changes hadn’t gone into effect yet so they couldn’t do the spickets as they weren't covered under our current plan. I had to get those fixed by someone else and I lost $75. I also had a claim for a sump pump repair as something broke. It was the thing that guides the Baldor that tells the thing when to pump the water out. But it turned out that the sump pump was not up to code so the technicians didn’t want to touch it and I had to have another contractor come out and repair it.

The contractors AHS sent were a little abrupt and a little negative about those things. With the sump pump, they didn’t even consider looking at the one thing I wanted them to fix because they just saw that it wasn't up to code. Nonetheless, the contractors told me what I had to do. And although those experiences didn’t work out to my favor very well, everything was fine. We've been with AHS close to five years and we usually have good experience with them and I'd recommend them.

They sent one company out, Flamingo, and I showed the gentleman my refrigerator. The handle on it was broken as well as one of the doors inside, but I can live with that. I then showed him how everything was freezing in my refrigerator. I didn’t know what he said and he went back. Then, I got a call back that my refrigerator couldn’t be repaired because everything was problematic. So American Home Shield sent Sears out here for a second opinion.

The man came this morning and he found out what was wrong. The icemaker inside the machine and the part that catches the ice weren’t connected tightly so the cool air was escaping into the refrigerator and freezing everything. He repaired that today. The second opinion person called me to let me know what the good man has said about my refrigerator and I appreciate that. And then he gave me a chance to explain to him the repairman error. He listened to me and I really appreciated that as well. I’m very pleased with American Home Shield and I don’t mind paying $48 a month. Also, I already recommended it to a friend.

I filed a claim online and it was very simple and quick. It took less than 24 hours to get it scheduled. The plumbing guys came out and they were really great and very informative. They came on time as scheduled. However, the problem wasn't really a problem, it was me not knowing how to work my shower. Apparently, the type of shower faucet that is installed is a common cause of confusion. Both knobs push in and not just like the main shower knob.

I thought the shower wasn't working. It turns out, the second knob was pushed in and not pulled out so no water would come out. The plumber assured me that I wasn't the only person that was that dumb because I really felt dumb at that moment. They also double checked just to make sure that nothing else was going on, that that was the only issue there. They tested it a couple of different times, with different combinations with the faucet pushed in and out. It worked fine. They said I had so many days to have them come back out for that $75 call out fee if anything else went wrong with it.

On 9/26/17 I requested electrical service for my home. Go on the website to request service and when requesting service it gives you option to pay merchant or have American Home Shield pay, ie debiting your account and paying the merchant directly. Well I opted for American Home Shield to pay the merchant. On 10/3/17 American Home Shield drafted payment, updated it on my Profile with them and debited my checking account. However, they claim that I owe past due service fee. This is the 3rd time that the same thing happens to me!!! So they are Stealing, in other words if I did not have record or proof they'd be making money on innocent hard working people like myself. Then to top it off, you call them it takes hours for someone to answer. They don't even get a resolution. Always state that they have no managers or supervisor. Not a good experience. I'm very disappointing.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. They're pleasant to deal with. The last claim with them was for our water heater. I’ve had the contractor on recent calls, so we already had a relationship. They knew my home and they were good people. They did what they said they’re going to do. Prior to that, I had a heating and air company come out who were also provided by AHS. They told me something was wrong and they wanted me pay from $600 to $1000 for an issue that may not even fix the problem. I sought out a second opinion and they came out and just cleaned my unit. It was only a couple hundred dollars compared to $600 to $1000. I was unhappy with that.

Hi, Justin. I don't blame you, I would not have liked to have been told I needed to pay close to a thousand when a few hundred would have solved the issue. In the future, if you do not agree with what our tech is advising, you can ask for a second opinion through AHS. Glad to know the other issues were resolved to your satisfaction.

Anytime you call them [I tried more than a dozen times-various hours of the business day-various days] -after they Identify you -they "politely" tell you that you'll have to wait more than an hour for a response. It seems to me that it is done by design so that they do not have service you- until you give up. No one has an hour + to wait to be answered by customer service for a business that is built on serving its customers. Shame on you!!!

I used to call them when I submit a claim and recently, they have it online so I also sign out a request through that. Both processes were smooth. They call and answer us very well when we have any problem. Recently, there were some problems with the pipes so they came and replaced those. The contractor called first and came on time. They did a good job and everything went fine.

We had a leak and I submitted the claim with AHS online and called over the phone. I had to stay on hold for 45 minutes to talk to somebody. Anytime I’ve had to call them, I’d have to be on hold for 45 minutes. They’re always nice when I talk to them, though. It’s a great company. It’s just that you have to wait forever. When the first tech came, he was very nice but wasn’t able to do anything because he couldn’t fit under the crawl space of our house. So, they put me in touch with a different company and that’s when everything just ended up getting pushed back because everything here shut down after hurricane Irma happened. Even if they had wanted to come out, there was no way. Otherwise, it would have been fine. Even with the hurricane going on, they stayed in communication.

Since, the repair, there have been no issues. They’re a great company to deal with because I had to get something from them to get to the City of Sarasota to have the water bill adjusted. They were able to get it to me immediately. I called and their rep had it to me via email in five minutes. I would use the company on my own.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a plumbing issue where I had leaky faucets and my toilet kept running. I had two plumbers come out. The first one came and fixed the faucets then they had to come back out because the toilet kept running. The second plumber who came was very nice as well. Everything has been fine since then. The faucets got replaced and the toilet got fixed. But I wish the service fee was directly withdrawn from my account. Sometimes I pay directly to the service guys and sometimes to AHS. That's a little confusing sometimes.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2009. I had a different company prior to them and it was horrible. They were closed down by the government because they were declining all the claims. American Home Shield is very decent, and submitting a claim is an easy process. You can go online and submit the claim, and they’ll respond within 24 hours. I prefer to do it online because trying to speak to a representative is time-consuming. When I need help over the phone, it takes a little while to get to them. But the contractors that they sent out have been really good, and very proficient at what they do with the exception of a couple of companies. Nevertheless, I just scratch those companies out of my list and I call American Home Shield, and they gladly send somebody else. I'm happy with them.

When we purchased our home almost a year ago, our Realtor offered to pay half the fee for the home warranty and so, we researched which one was the best and we ended up going with American Home Shield. I filed a claim for our water heater and getting someone out here was fine. However, the plumbing company that they arranged to come to our house wasn’t the easiest to work with and we kept going around in circles. When we filled up our bathtub with hot water, there would be rock sediments left inside so we’re showering in the sand. It took us so long to get AHS to accept our claim so it was a bit longer than I would have expected.

Also, I did the filing over the phone and I was on hold for at least an hour. I tried doing it online a couple of times but the issue with the water heater was easier to explain to someone over the phone than online. So, usually, I have to call and when I got ahold of customer service, they were good. I had one rep who was rude but other than that, they were nice and friendly. After I’ve called them, it took three days to get a technician. We had a plumbing company that we were using and their reviews online were horrible. So, after talking to AHS, they arranged for a company to come out and do our water heater and it was a smooth process once we got that going.

The technician from the first company was good but I hated the receptionist in the company that he worked for. They are never nice but he was. The company that AHS got and did the water heater was good, professional and very quick to come back and replaced the water heater once it was approved. Once a year is over, we're going to be done but we’re not planning on moving again so right now, we’re here to stay. It was an okay experience but there were a few things that made it a little difficult and the claim could be approved a little quicker.

American Home Shield is very unprofessional and the people that they have as their vendors are horrible. I own 24 houses and I do remodeling. If I sent that kind of vendor to my tenants’ places, I would have about 80% vacancy rate. Also, their response time is terrible and they cancel their appointments all the time. They canceled on my air conditioner for about three times. I'm a tenant and the owner and I have been dealing with this. They may have a really good sales force that sells the dream, but it's a nightmare. We've had several repairs that needed to be done and they have dropped the ball on 95% of them. Our stove is not working and they're going to wait for $675 worth of parts to come in instead of replacing it.

Even their replacement plan is bogus because they replace it and nobody comes to do the installation. We had a microwave that the tech replaced. They dropped off the microwave but now they don't have anybody to come and install it. We're very dissatisfied. It's not a good company and they are so mismanaged, it's unbelievable. They need to go to their middle management or upper management and fire everybody because whoever is running the company and pumping all the money in has no idea that the customer service level is terrible. They have a good platform to operate from and if they get good vendors and they have good customer service and follow-ups, they could make a lot of money. However, based on my experience, I would never sign up with them, ever.

We've been having a problem with the icemaker for almost the whole year. Every time we call them, they'd come out and order parts. Then a company came out and lost the screw. American Home Shield said we had to replace the screw but why do we have to replace it if the other company lost it when they came out? Another company came out and replaced the screw and put them on the ice maker but it is still making noises. And then they said, we owed them $75. But I said, "How do we owe you $75, you never really fixed the problem?" Our stove went out too and then we got to pay another $75 for that. The AHS customer service was okay but they were unorganized. We called a number and then they told us to get in contact with the supervisor about the $75 but they never called us back. Overall, I won't recommend others to go to American Home Shield. I'd rather have them go to somebody else.

He came in exactly when he said he would be here, remembered me, introduced himself and was very professional. He knew right away and exactly what it was, which was the pipe from the condensation that was clogged. He told me where we clean and where we start, washed the tubes first, cleaned it out and the air conditioning started to work again and stopped leaking. Everybody said American Home Shield was a good company to go with so now I have been with them for four months already. We have filed a claim for our dishwasher, our refrigerator, and our stove but they’re still not resolved and still not fixed. They have come out about five times and it’s still over the place. I don’t really know what they're doing. They schedule appointments but they don’t show up like they're supposed to. They call me the day before and say they can't make it or they're never on time. He can't figure out what the problem is when I told them all they needed to do was let AHS know that I need my stuff replaced. The company that they're going through won't do it and I think they're milking the company for money. My main issue is my dishwasher and it’s still not fixed by Percy’s Appliance. That was a back and forth between saying it's a plumbing issue and the plumber said it's not a plumbing issue, it's the dishwasher.

Then the appliance guy said it's not the dishwasher, it's the plumbing. So they kept calling some people back and forth. Those guys showed up at my home and they were not in a company truck, just a regular truck. They were not in uniform, just regular sweatpants, and t-shirts. Aaron Plumbing is the same way. They don’t have the name on the side of the truck so I don’t know who I'm letting in my house. They just come and say, “Hey, I'm from Aaron Plumbing.” If you're running a business, you should come to my house in a uniform so I know you're legit. AHS does pretty good at getting me scheduled but the people never come out.

They come when it's inconvenient for me. If I tell them, “I need you to come out here this time or that time,” they don’t want to come out. They even tried to schedule where the plumber could be there and the appliance could be there, but they don’t want to be there at the same time. American Home Shield is okay but they should use well-named brand companies instead of these companies that I never heard of. Send me Maytag or somebody that knows what they're doing.

We’re living in an older home so we decided to have AHS. Recently, we submitted a claim online for a pool filter. When the filter goes, I have to turn the pump off, and at that time, it was in the summer. It took them two days to get a technician to come out here. After he came out, it all fell apart. He came and he was very rude and not very nice. He said that they’re going to order a new filter, so he did, but he never called us back. After two weeks, we finally called him and then he asked if we wanted him to go ahead and order the filter. He was supposed to order that a week ago and we waited for him for weeks.

I called them every day but we could not get hold of him. He was not responsive and not a very pleasant man. The pool was standing still in the backyard for two weeks, without being able to pump. The water was totally green and I had mosquitoes all over my yard. The pool was nasty and that experience was a nightmare. He finally came with a new filter and his excuse was that AHS wouldn’t let him order it. But they did order it, so it took longer for him to come. He said he can’t work in the backyard due to the mosquitoes so he went out to get mosquito spray at Lowe’s. He finally put the new filter on and fixed whatever was needed to be fixed. We had to leave at the time so we told him to do what he needs to do and leave. When we come back, my pool was disgusting so I had to drain it, fill it back with water and put all new chemicals, and that cost me a fortune.

We have never had anybody who was like him and is the only person that we ever had any issues with. My husband wrote an email to AHS when it was all said and done. He told them how he felt about this technician. I’m assuming they got it. There were a lot more expenses to this experience that we never claimed from them since we question if they were responsible for my pool looking like this which I have to drain. We should have filed a claim since emptying a pool and filling it up is an expensive business, but we were so happy that it was done and we didn’t have to deal with the technician anymore. If we have a problem with the pool again, we will not accept them sending out the same gentleman. I was very dissatisfied with this experience. Other than that, everything else has been fine. We had air-conditioner issues before but that was fine. I called it in, they responded and came out. They were also courteous and nice.

    Reviewed Nov. 10, 2017

American Home Shield was offered to me when we bought the house as the first year warranty. It's in a ghetto and there were so many things they had to fix in the house. It's pretty but it wasn't functional, like they’ve wired everything backward, so when I press on, it turns it off and off is on. They did the plumbing backward too. They got all the PVC copper pipes hooked up wrong. So, we had to get people in there and told them they got to fix all of that. Because we had to keep having them come back, they gave us a year warranty under American Home Shield. I had it for free in the first year and I figured that I wasn’t going to sit, do market research and try to find somebody else if anything broke since they’re already covering me.

So I called them one time and they set us up with a plumber because my daughter's bedroom is directly beneath the shower and when I was taking a shower, it was leaking onto her bed. It goes down through the ceiling onto her bed. The plumber called when he was on his way, came in and although I don't know what he did, it doesn't leak anymore. He was very professional. He told me what the problem was and sounded like he knew what he was doing. It didn't even take him 10 minutes to fix it. It took him longer to take off his shoes. He was also very clean. You would never know he was in there as there was no kind of debris. I was very pleased with him.

Other than that, I find the claim process a little disjointed. If I were Home Shield, I would do it the same way that Angie’s List does where I could say "I need a plumber" and it shows the top five, and as soon as you put in my name, address and what the claim is, that plumber would be calling immediately. But the way Home Shield does it is if I go online, I’d say what I need, and then nothing. I then have to call American Home Shield and they’d say they got it but no one’s going to be available for a couple of days. They gave a number if I wanted to call the guy. So, what's the point of American Home Shield? If it's a pass-through, then just make it so that the plumber gets a direct call. Otherwise, I'm sitting around waiting for two or three days with a leaking upper building.

But still, I'm going to go through American Home Shield because whoever they brought to me was clearly professional and knew what they were doing. I'm very persnickety in the way I like things done. They did what they needed to do and did it well. I would recommend AHS and would trust that whatever else would go wrong with the house, I could call American Home Shield and they would do the same thing.

The air conditioner on my bottom unit had gone out and was not functioning properly. Submitting the claim was fine because I did it all online. When I do an online request, I usually get the phone number of who's going to come. I then call the contractor every time before they call me since my air conditioner has been fixed 13 times. I've been talking with the contractor for a year now and they are great.

Several times, the AC had broken down. It happened both last summer and this summer. They've come out 13 times in a 12-month period. Last summer, in July, I did not have air conditioning for over a month. The AC went out on a Friday and nothing happened until Monday. Then the contractor can't come for a couple of days. When they come, I have to get AHS and they have to decide what's going to happen and what parts to get. Before I know it, it's been another week. The parts came the following Monday, but I can't get scheduled until two or three days later. It's not the contractor's fault since they have a schedule. I've spent $2500 out of pocket for this unit. I want to replace the whole thing already. I'm just tired of the air conditioner breaking down. I'm hoping that this time is better. Plus, I've also spent money on the upstairs unit.

AHS does not communicate at all. There have been days that I've had to call them and ask for updates about the parts or about what's happening to my account. I either have to call them or call the contractor. However, the contractor can't do anything because they're waiting for the warranty company. For instance, last week, they got the part in. They went to the house, and they fixed the air conditioner. I was anticipating that they got all the parts they required and fixed the air conditioner. Two days later, I texted my daughter and asked if the air conditioner got fixed. My daughter lives there during the week and I'm there on the weekend. She said no and that they're waiting for a part. No one called me and no one said anything. Plus, they charged me an extra $500 that I didn't even know I was going to be getting.

I called the contractor and they said that something else was wrong and they needed to get another part. I also had to pay another $500. We had to wait for another couple of days. Then they came yesterday and fixed it. However, when they left, they left the unit on at 61 degrees. My daughter didn't get home until later because she works in the evening, so it was running for 10 hours. I called the contractor and told them that if the unit burns up, I'm not paying for anything. Also, the unit runs so inefficiently that it has costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars a month. We get a $500 electricity bill and the unit doesn't even run half the time. I would like to be reimbursed for every single penny that I've put in that unit. I would like to also be reimbursed for my electric bill because it's absolutely ridiculous.

I bought some portable air conditioners and told them to reimburse me for the stuff. They didn't reimburse me the whole amount and just gave me $200. I shouldn't have to go through 40 days of no air conditioning. They kept bringing people out but nobody knew what's going on. I need someone who knows what's going on with this thing. It's gotten to the point where I threw my hands up and said, "Whatever." There have been delays, waiting on parts, waiting for a schedule, and waiting for AHS to move. If I was not on the phone with them constantly, I would still not have an air conditioner today. I've already paid for the service. Now I need them to provide the service. I need them to be on top of my claim and get things approved. It's been overwhelmingly frustrating. If somebody just opened the history of this one piece of equipment in this one residence, they would know that something is wrong.

I had an issue with my toilet so American Home Shield had a plumber come out. I also inquired about an electrician to come out which I ended up not needing. The claim was easy to submit and I did it over the phone. The rep who assisted was very helpful and said that someone would be contacting me within 24 hours. Then the contractor who came was very thorough, gave some really good suggestions, and did the job in a timely manner. Everything has been good, but I received an email about a claim fee being seven days late. The plumber should have gotten a check that same day. So I reached out to American Home Shield yesterday while I was at work but it was a 30-minute wait time and I didn’t have time to stay away. Still, the service has been excellent.

A dishwasher broke and I called it in but when it started out, they didn't want to cover it. But all of a sudden, they covered it and it was all fine. They were claiming that it was a bad motor but it wasn't and that the dishwasher was abused. If it were, I was going to have to pay for it but anybody who's ever had a dishwasher has had a broken glass in their dishwasher. That's part of the nature of dishwashers. I found out that they were freaking out over a little bit of glass. It ended up not being a big deal but it started out that way.

The first person they sent out was not knowledgeable. He didn't really have the training, the equipment or the parts to do the job so it was a waste of time. But the second person was factory trained and he was really good. He knew what he was doing and there wasn't a lot of drama behind it which felt like it was with the original thing. Ultimately, it was worked out but it was not the employees' fault but the policy of the company, not having knowledgeable people come out the first time and then accusing me of abusing the machine. Both of those disgusted me. We've had the warranty for three years and have all brand new appliances so it was not like we made a ton of calls and repeated every month or year.

We've been having problems with our dryer off and on, and I had called American Home Shield to have them look at it. Normally, customers like me go through their automatic system. When I call their number, there's never a live person. There’s a series of questions that I have to go through and then I get to hold. Sometimes I can hold for a very short period of time and sometimes a very long period. And once I get someone, I tell them what the situation is and then they tell me who's going to be calling me.

And so, after a guy came out and looked at the dryer, it was going to be a 2-step process. Our dryer was acting up because there's a problem with the electrical unit. We had to have an electrician to come out and look at it. So I called American Home Shield again. The electrician who came was really good and discovered that there was a short in the attic. He got us to call our electric company to come out and fix the wires. And the dryer’s been doing excellent since then.

Everybody that has come out has been really good with the exception of a couple. With the air conditioning situation that we had, we called them out about six times. That started out in June 2016 through almost August. And then we finally got somebody out here. Last November of 2016 was the first time I've used them, and then I've used them all this year. The last time, I had them send out a master technician because by that time I was sick of it. I've been paying for this thing for two years. But as far as professionalism, that's never been a problem. The biggest deal was, a person comes out, and you want to feel as if somebody works on your house and they're telling you your issue, you don't want to feel as if someone is not being as truthful.

So, I've had one person come out for the air conditioning and then had another one because I want fresh eyes and a fresh company. I wanted them to fix it and one person was saying, "We need to do this." But another person was saying something contradictory. That was the biggest issue and it went on for a little bit. And then the air conditioning was fixed. And then it wasn't fixed. And then it was fixed, and then it wasn't fixed. When you have a senior in your home and it's 89 degrees, we have a problem. Also, it was the first time I used American Home Shield and I’m having a problem with the amount of money. When it comes to Freon, it's outrageous. I paid $300 something for that. And then, someone put too much Freon and it had flowed in all the pipes. Someone came to find out that had to melt and that wasn't the issue at all. And then a new one came and said something else. So, I was not happy about that.

American Home Shield is a good company and there are advantages to it. They came highly recommended by my college roommate and I would recommend them too. Every time I call them out, though, I have to pay the servicing. Also, I’ve always paid them a $100 service fee and I don’t know how I went from that to paying a monthly fee of $700. With the electrician for my dryer, I had to pay him to do a service that American Home Shield didn't cover. The problem with companies like this is their definition of wear and tear along with what they do and do not cover. Nevertheless, for single women like me, especially if you don't have a handy guy, you can contact American Home Shield if something goes wrong. You'll feel like you're a little bit in control no matter what time and day because they'll pick any call. They may not get to you until the next day.

I’ve had American Home Shield for the better part of 20 years. At that time they had the best offer and package. I've had no issues with American Home Shield until two years ago. And this year we have had nothing but problems from the customer service people telling you that your claim will be denied because you're not covered when you first call to being on hold for about an hour and a half to get a hold of somebody. It's never been like that. It just started this year.

And the problem is I work from home and I'm on the telephone most of the hours of my day. I simply cannot sit here for an hour and a half on hold so I have to send my husband with the home phone outside and stay here, take the phone and wait until somebody answers the phone. I even sent a letter to the corporate office complaining and I got a call back but I still didn’t get to speak to the person. It's very frustrating because if you call them you'll get a customer service person out there about an hour and a half to tell you one thing then you have to call back to get another one and they tell you something else.

This year they also started a chat online but on many occasions it doesn’t show up on the website and when it does show up you sometimes can't get anybody to chat. If they would improve on that chat that would help a lot with the call volume but they have trimmed the call centers down to a bare minimum instead. But the online chat was actually where I finally got a hold of somebody and they actually had a record of it.

I have an issue still with one of my last claims because they are claiming I didn’t pay the service fee but this fee was waived because it was a second call on the same incident. Besides the most recent contractors we've had have been not as effective. They said they couldn’t figure out what the problem was, left everything the way it was and couldn’t care less. Five years ago AHS used to have a contract with the Sears contractor and I have never had an issue with them. But this year has just been so horrible so they sent another guy out and it was great but now they are fighting me over the fee.

I have two homes with Home Shield but I'm starting to look at other home warranties. They are simply not covering a lot of things anymore and they keep reducing the coverage in the contract. I also discovered now that other companies are actually more competitive and offering more coverage. The contractors have told me they cover like contractors I know, not the ones that Home Shield sends out. They said, “Yeah. We have worked with them and this company and they will not give us any hassle. They will just work with us.” So overall American Home Shield has been very satisfactory until this year and this year I'm seriously considering switching to somebody else and I'm looking at other course right now.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2003 and it's been absolutely horrible. The quality of care has been terrible. I also feel that AHS has become very robotic. I tried to call AHS but you're on hold forever now and it's ridiculous. You can't even get through anymore. It's all animated and you can't talk to any human being. I am very displeased with their service. They used to send me out a little card and the contract. My contract is up in September and I should have gotten a contract but I haven't gotten it yet. They don't send you the card anymore. They don't even know your number unless you have to look at the contract. I don't know if they've gotten so big that they forgot about the customer. There are a lot more companies out there now trying to get my business. I get all kinds of emails now if I wanted new insurance. They came out here on a call that I had made for a repair and the guy was really nice and honest.

When I called AHS, they told me they would do a prevention plan and it was only $59.95. I said, "That's fantastic. I need to get that done.” It was getting cold here in Florida and the air conditioner needed to be checked out. So the guy came out here and he got on my nerves. I said to him that I didn’t want to hear what he was about to say. And he said, "You need to hear because, you know, you have an old system and you're not going to pay for anything.” And that I’m not going to pay for anything until it completely breaks down. And I said, "Well, that's part of the warranty." He said, "Yeah, but you don't understand. They probably didn't tell you this. In your contract, it's probably in fine print. Because your Freon is not going to be around next year and they're going to start charging you. We could do this right now and my company can take care of you."

He went on and on and he irritated me. I said, "Listen, you really irritated me. I don't have any extra money for you today. That's why I have the warranty. In case something happens, if it can be repaired then they'll pay for it.” He said, "That's not covered. They'll make you pay for it." I said, "What are you talking about?" He said, "Well, that company that you're with is not going to pay your Freon. You should give them a call." He gave me a receipt on it and he wrote down in the receipt that I refused him. He said it was about a pound or something short. Yes, I refused him. He told me I would have to pay the $59.95 plus the $75 if I called AHS to let them know that I needed whatever I needed and plus whatever it is to his company. He came into my house trying to sell me. It was the most frustrating, irritating, almost frightful thing that I've ever experienced. And they came back and I paid that out of my pocket for prevention.

I even told him that I was going to call his company but I got busy after that in life. I got pneumonia and I tried to get it fixed. But my point is that I felt that that was really disrespectful, almost telling me I'm stupid to be with AHS because of the fact that I'm being ripped. Anybody knows that this air-conditioner is oldest as ever and it should be replaced and they are just nickel and diming me. He was off the chain. I told him personally to leave and I was so glad he was leaving. And I said to him I was going to get in touch with his company and tell them how he was. But his company has been doing that with all of his clients so it was a way of business for them. You expect that the people that are going to come in are going to do right by you. And when that other guy came from that company, he was nice that's why I let them come here and do that preventative measure.

However, after I thought about it, the guy showed me how dirty the air-conditioner was when he took some part out but he didn't tell me what that part was. The stuff that was on that part was disgusting. And I felt like, "Wow, you know what? The guy that came out here before, he was here for maybe 10 minutes max. Even though he came out here to see what was wrong because I had water leaking from the air-conditioner, he could have taken that off and blown that out. It would be part of the job.” It was clogged up but when the guy took the power off and I saw all that gunk on that piece that he took out, he could have done that when I paid $75. And what I find him doing for all the years that I have been with AHS was very minimal. I said, "But why are you with the company then?" "Because we can get business," he said. I said, "Well, sometimes that's how it works."

He said, “You can get more money for this or for that or some other place with the client representing AHS because they pay you the minimum.” I said, "Really?" He said, "Yes." So that's why they come in here and they really don't do anything and that guy that was here before could have repaired that. There were two companies that came here. There was another guy that came here that was a plumber and the plumbing company was fabulous. He took my knobs and even until today, the knobs in my bathroom sink and my master bedroom don't even work. He took some knobs from the little part of my house and put it on there but they didn't even fit. They'd do anything they can to not do the job quick and easy. And I don't understand that except if they're telling me that they get paid less than what they can really make.

I like AHS and I've been with them forever but I'm very unhappy with the people they're sending out here. And all they do is put this company down and then we feel stupid and then they always try to get more money out of me. They are always getting more money out of me for some reason, maybe because I'm senior and I live alone. The people that come out here are part of AHS because they're working for them but I can't say I don't like AHS.

American Home Shield sucks. They sent people out to the house, and they diagnosed one problem, and it wasn’t that problem. We got other people out and paid them out of our own funds for what they did to find out what was really wrong. And now, there’s still an issue that still has not been resolved. It has been an ongoing thing for a couple of months. The technicians have been out there at least six times. Jim and Elliott, who are renting the house from me, have been very patient and very understanding. They are the ones that are handling it. Had I been out there, I would have ripped somebody’s head off by now.

American Home Shield doesn’t send the same person out again and there’s a problem with that. If you hire somebody, that company who started should be the same company that comes out and finishes the problem. One person says this, another person says this, and you’re stuck in the middle. And every time, you’re paying money for people to come out and they don’t fix the problem. I’m never buying American Home Shield again. Once I’m done with this year, I’m done with them.

The speaker outside the house needed replacement. I made a request that I would have it repaired, and there was some kind of confusion. They gave me hours that they would be there, that was from 4:00 o'clock to 6:00 o'clock. I waited there all day for them to come and then after 6:00 o'clock I gave a call back and the place was closed. So, I was kind of upset about that because they had me waiting around the house for all that time. I called back and they didn't have my appointment. They rescheduled me but this time they showed up. They got the guy there on time. He was fast and was precise of what he had to do. He did the job very well.

The only problem was the guy who was supposed to show up initially came. He didn't tell the people where he worked at that he didn't report to the job at the site. He didn't let them know anything when I called back about it. They said that he didn't say anything about it. American Home Shield's customer service should be a little bit more on point with regards to support if they're coming out doing the repairs. They need to work on the information between customer service and the workers before they come out.

Their reps put everything in the system and give me the exact information of the person who will come out and fix it while I’m on the phone with them. The reps were very polite and knowledgeable. Then the email comes through and within about 24 hours, I get a call from the contractor. The contractors have been awesome.

They came, look at what the issue is and always say, “Well, okay, this is what’s going on. Let me call back and let Home Shield know what’s going on and make sure it’s covered.” And if it's covered, they come back and fix it. We have to pay the money through AHS, and I always choose to pay after the service is complete. In terms of the quality of the work that’s being performed, it was fabulous and it looks good. I've been with American Home Shield since August. I've already submitted three claims with them, one of which was for my washer, which turned out horrible. The technician came, looked at it and told me the part that he needed. He ordered it which costs $800. On his second appointment three weeks later, he found out that he got the wrong part. The part stayed at my house for three weeks and it took Sears forever to come pick them up. Two weeks later, he tried to order an additional part but AHS didn't have the parts needed so they just replaced the unit.

The washer should’ve been ordered a whole lot earlier than when they did. I work in the day, so I had to get somebody come to my house and sit for four hours to wait for somebody to come. I was without a washer for a month a half, which was very inconvenient since I had to go to people’s house to wash my clothes for almost two months. I kept getting the runaround and it was annoying. I would still recommend them though. When my dryer wouldn't work, they fixed it. And when my ceiling fan's light wouldn't come on and spark had flown, the technician did something with the wires and it was fine.

This problem started shortly after I purchased the house within a month. I submitted my claim through their website. Then they sent it to guy and that person evidently doesn't deal with AHS anymore and so they sent another one. The second person showed up on time and everything was okay. He went above and beyond. He noticed that the coils themselves is close to the edge of the yard and blew a bunch of grass into them. He took the extra time and cleaned them for us. I'm really happy with the work. The AC worked for the month after the repair that happened and it worked just fine. I think they have to make sure that their vendor list is up to date.

The vendor that American Home Shield sent charged me $75 a pound, so I paid $450 extra for the coolant and the rest was for getting rid of things. I paid about $700 bucks for the repair. I looked at it online and I talked to American Home Shield about it. They said that they will set a price and they'll pay a certain amount only depending on what the vendor would charge.

I go mostly online to file the claim because I know who AHS would send. Though, I've called them about some people in the past that weren't good. If a specific plumber that I like won't fit in their budget, I have to pay extra. But, this last group that AHS sent out was really good. They fixed the problem and went above and beyond. They were from out of town, but they had a satellite up here and they do all of American Home Shield's work. Overall I've had AHS for 15 years and I'd recommend them.

I kept asking AHS for a notice, an e-mail or something that said that the drywall will be covered but I couldn't get to the person. They told me that they don't do such e-mails and that they only have a standard form.

They then assigned me a contractor who was out of town. After several days, they told me that it would be covered by contingency coverage. I kept calling them and they've always told me that everything is covered and that they're about to call the contractor, but then all of a sudden, the contractor couldn't do it. In the end, I had to take a cash offer in lieu of services. I was frustrated with the whole process because the house was being sold and it has interrupted that process. It was fine, but since I'm old school, I like to have somebody to talk to. The technician came out after a couple of days since it was towards the weekend. He didn't end up coming on the day he said he'd come and we were without a water heater for a week. He was nice though, but couldn't figure the problem. He then referred to us to somebody else, who came out immediately. That technician told us that we had to get a new one, so we ended up replacing our unit. AHS had to get on the phone with the provider, which they verbally told me a date on Tuesday and then texted me a date on Wednesday. I missed that, so now I have to reschedule. I'm two weeks out of the last service request, so that didn't go well. I need to call the contractor back as their service was scheduled wrong, and part of it was American Home Shield’s problem. It's becoming irritating and I've seen a slippage in their service.

The dishwasher was something that I had a claim last summer. But then it started working again and they couldn't find the problem. So this is actually a repeat claim that I have, but it's too far away since it's six months out. Submitting a claim was easy but getting it closed is the hard part. I had a couple of other minor issues on there as well that I wanted them to take a look when they were out here. For plumbers and electricians AHS responds well but for the appliances they poorly do.

Because that part was unavailable, AHS replaced the entire dishwasher. It was an excellent service. I looked at their reimbursement option, but the price that they could get the dishwasher for and installed was a little bit less than what I could get it, even at a discount place here in town. So, it was much more advantageous to have them buy the thing itself. Though it took a couple of weeks for the new dishwasher to be set up, it works great. AHS also kept sending me the same people who just patched the problem. Since I was never home when the contractors came out, I decided to take off from work this last time to wait for the contractor. Then AHS finally sent me another contractor that was really nice. But after the service, the AC shuts off and needs some water when it gets hot. I am very dissatisfied with this company. I’m about to go under realty and a lot of realtors deal with warranty companies, so I will make sure that AHS would never be recommended.

My most recent claim was our dishwasher and the dishwasher soap dispenser that won't open during the cycle cleaning. It was an automated system when I called American Home Shield to make the claim, and the process was really easy and quick. Their online thing doesn’t work every time we enter any information. It says that it's the wrong phone number but there isn’t any place for the phone number to work. The contractor they sent for the dishwasher was okay and I like him but he ordered a new opener and it didn’t work. So, he had to order another part and it’s been four weeks and we are still waiting to get it fixed.

We had another claim that we made before for the oven in our kitchen and I was on hold with AHS for an hour and 20 minutes today. The company that they used is Quality Services and they have done an awful job compared to the dishwasher guy. The guy came, looked and said, “You need this, this and this.” The last man came back with the parts and none of the parts were the right parts. Now, they have to take it out and it's going to be three to five weeks that we don’t have an oven and that’s going to be over Thanksgiving.

It takes forever to get American Home Shield on the phone. I’m waiting 15 minutes every time I call. That’s 24 hours and 7 days a week so it’s not the best thing out there. However, when I get them on the phone, the customer service is okay and the tech would come about three days after I call. My most recent claim was about a plumbing issue and the techs whom I dealt with was fine. The work was good and everything is still up and running but they were really late. It has been an average experience.

American Home Shield tried to get my dishwasher fixed in the first try, but it took a while to get it done by three different attempts so we were without a dishwasher for about a week and a half. I filed the claim online for the second visit and for the first and the third, I used the phone. The phone experience was okay as they were always expedient. The vendors that came were two different companies and one came twice.

My issues started probably about a month and a half ago. According to the three technicians who came by, there were three different problems, but I didn’t know why they couldn’t assume that on the first visit. One guy replaced the circuit board and worked for about two days then he got called out again. American Home Shield called a different agency the third time and they said our fuse just went and there was no power to it whatsoever. The two problems weren’t associated but at least they didn’t get a new dishwasher. We went back to hand wash but it was not very convenient because some people would forget taking dishes and that made it double the effort. But in the end, it turned out okay. The dishwasher is still working so I’m happy. I got a 12-year-old house and I only bought the appliance insurance but if I like it, I might extend into the systems as well.

I've been with American Home Shield for a while now. I called them to look at a leak that was on my ceiling. They sent out a gentleman to check the pipes but when he went to the attic, but there wasn't any. He told me that it was from condensation on my air conditioning unit's vent which made sense because there was a vent that goes through that wall right there. I paid for that visit. They then sent out another person for the air conditioning who took a picture of the unit, then called multiple times, and finally said that it wasn't covered. He didn't even look at the unit or anything to see what caused the leak.

I felt like AHS dropped the ball and didn't follow up on any on that. Even the company that came out didn't call. I'll have to get somebody else to come look at it and fix it. I tried to call them about it but getting through is hard. After they had me on hold for 40 minutes every time to get through, I got discouraged. I've told two people that have purchased warranty from AHS that I feel like they won't be covered by AHS if something would go wrong.

It was on time as well. I live in South Alabama where it’s hot so air conditioning and water are the most important things. He helped me set it, got it going and since then, the AC has been fine.

I've been paying a premium fee without questions and I was expecting the service when I called. But a year ago, I had a dishwasher that was not functioning properly. We called for a service and the contractor came but they couldn’t deal with it because they didn’t have the expertise on that particular brand. AHS told us to go ahead and call our own but we couldn't find anyone. We had two of those units and at the end of the day, I decided to replace because one was already stopped and they were both going to give me problems. I was told AHS was going to cover it but then I got bounced back and forth. Then this last customer service representative said she would take care of it right away but I realized then that the check was in the mail. I just received it but it was half the amount of what was invoiced so I was frustrated.

Even more recently, my experience with American Home Shield started off real bad for months and months. The contractor had been here a couple of times and kept promising that this motor that he needed to order would be on its way. Then he said he had it but he left us high and dry. Months went by and I had to call the guy 15 times until finally I got fed up and canceled everything. Then the customer service department reacted, not because I threatened to cancel though. She was on the ball and she contacted another service provider who came within a few hours. The contractor had the motor in the car and replaced it. It took 15 minutes and it was done. The was only satisfaction I had.

I didn't have any problems calling the claim in and the rep was excellent. The contractor did a good job. He saw something that hadn't been handled properly by the previous contractor, which was part of the problem. He corrected that, and he also identified a couple of new issues and took care of it. The two commodes are working properly now. Over the past 20 years, I've had AHS on three houses and I'm satisfied with them. I don't like its high price but I like the security of having the warranty. Overall, it's been pretty good and I have recommended AHS to friends.

My spa equipment was flaking out and the pool panel was acting crazy. I filed a claim using their app. If you've gone to their website, it takes you to a mobile version. It was super easy if you already have your existing stuff online. The contractors misdiagnosed it during the first visit claim. I let American Home Shield know about it so I don't know if they'll continue to use them or not but I wanted to make it known because that was the second time that I've had them and they were just horrible. They're really a bad company because I looked them up and they have 2.5 stars. I don't recommend them. I'm glad I didn't take what they said because that would have cost me to repair it on my own, which would have been $1,200. Then I just did a second opinion and the company that came out was amazing. And everything has been great.

AHS should improve their hold time if a customer calls to speak to somebody. Luckily, I'm a realtor, so I have connections to be able to get on this offline. Other people don't so before I knew about that special connection, I would be on hold for like an hour with them. Everything else was easy. They were always willing to look at a claim. We've had American Home Shield for a couple of years. We call them every time we have a claim and they've always sent people who were spot on. Our experience has been great except for the fact that we paid for our last visit and they keep sending me nasty emails saying I need to pay for my last visit. But they automatically charged it to our credit card. This has happened once before. It used to be when the tech would come out, people would pay the tech. And then, according to American Home Shield, there was a lot of instances where the cash never made it to them. So then they started this new thing. Other than that, we've loved them. We had our microwave repaired several times and they completely rebuilt our furnace about six years ago.

The only other issue that we've had with them is that they say our dog peed on our air conditioner and now they don't want to cover our air conditioner. They’ve come out and serviced our air conditioner every summer for seasonal prep and nobody's ever said anything about putting a fence around it so the dog can't pee on it. The handbook says pet damage and I assumed pet damage to be the dog chewed it up. The air conditioner, the compressor out here is about 20 years old. It's about due to be replaced anyway.

And we have this great microwave, a big old GE Profile that quit working. That was about four months ago and the fourth time that they've had to come out for it. The tech told us new ones are not made anywhere close to being this good anymore. And the last time that they came out, we thought for sure we were going to wind up with a new microwave. But they put 400 and something change into our microwave and it works like brand new. Overall, we've been very pleased with them over the years. And we recommend them to people all the time.

This company takes your money, then sends out 2nd rate repair people that they sublet to and then they take 2 or three times to make a repair...that is if they do not deny the claim! If you try to call them to ask why or to tell that you are not satisfied with their service, expect to be on hold for at least an hour. Their vendors also tell you that they will only do a repair their way so they can try to up-sell you. Tried to tell me that my washer door cracked due to misuse... The first company they sent out said it was a cosmetic repair, that cost me $100.00. Then they said if I wanted a second opinion, I would have to pay another $100.00. I agreed, and the second guy told them it was due to misuse!! Had they said that the fist time I would not have requested a second visit. This company will do all they can to deny a claim and is just taking your money each month. DO NOT BUY A CONTRACT FROM THEM!!!

I submitted a repair request for a leak in the basement the week of October 16. It was dispatched to a local plumber. I had to make arrangements to let the plumber into the house in my absence. Days went by and I never heard a word. Finally late in the day on Thursday, Oct 23, I called the plumber. They told me that there wasn’t a leak, that it was condensation. By the following Monday, the LEAK had continued and spilled over into the garage. I reached back out to the plumber and AHS, after sitting on hold with AHS for an inexcusable length of time, we initiated a recall. At this point, the plumber has been back to the house, not repaired anything, and left a note saying that they shut the water off so there wouldn’t be any additional damage.

I have repeatedly called the plumber and left numerous messages. I have repeatedly called AHS and am tired of sitting on hold. I am trying to sell this home and it is sitting there with no running water. This is into the third week since I first placed the request for repair. I don’t know how AHS stays in business. They certainly will not get any future business from me and I will make sure to spread the word on how poorly the run their business and treat their customers. By the way, I have been a customer for 12 years and added a second home contract a year ago. They will lose both—as soon as the leak is repaired!!!

It may be one of the least expensive, spend a little time and a little more money to find a company that supports and values its customers. I was stunned by the lack of customer service or sense of responsibility of consumers especially in an at risk situation. I received a 1 year American Home Shield warranty when we purchased our home. I created an account and created our first service order and paid $75 to have our home re-keyed and since the previous homeowners did not leave and could not find the mail key to have the lock drilled out and replaced so we could pick up our mail.

After waiting for 4 days for contact or status to the service order I created online I called to speak with a service representative, I waited on hold for 40 minutes. After speaking to one of their representatives she explained they were still searching for a contractor and someone would call me within 24 hours to the status. I asked if they did not find a contractor or I did not receive any update within 24 hours would I be reimbursed if I found a contractor and took care of the payment, she said yes. After waiting 24 hours, I did not receive a call and so I found a contractor to come out and rekey the house and mailbox.

This is day 5 of waiting. I called American Home Shield again, spent over 30 minutes on hold, and spoke to another representative to ask how I would get reimbursed. This representative said I would not be reimbursed. They had found someone, apparently American Home Shield is not responsible for contacting me to status updates, the contractor was responsible and the contractor has 48 hours to contact me.

So after waiting for 5 days, I would have to wait another 48 hours potentially to hear from the contractor, and there is no commitment to when the job needs to be completed creating a safety issue for our family to have an unsecured home and where we are unable to get our mail and pay any bills due. After speaking with a supervisor, and apparently there is no one above her to speak to, this is their process, and she was sorry the miscommunication by the first representative, ‘if she really said that’, the supervisor would ‘need to review the tape’ of my call with the first representative.

My AC broke and it was somewhat easy to do the claim online. I got a response right away. It was same day and it said the contractor would be getting in contact with me within 24 hours. The technicians were very knowledgeable and they did what they were supposed to do. The first day they came out, they found out it was the compressor, so there was nothing they could do. They had to call back American Home Shield who had to approve it. After American Home Shield approved it, the technicians got back in contact with me and they scheduled to come back out within the next couple of days.

Everything works perfectly that’s why I keep renewing my American Home Shield contract. I recommend them to people all the time. They also have that text feature now that lets me know when they’re coming. It's a nice little feature where you can track their progress to see where they’re exactly at. American Home Shield has been a pleasure. I don’t mind paying that money every month. If they can’t repair it, they replace it. They’ll give you something comparable, but a lot of times it is a lot cheaper. When I first had my AC replaced, I had a big Carrier one, but they gave me a smaller one. It would be nice if they would give you an option to pay a little bit extra to upgrade to a better model.

But since I’ve had American Home Shield, I only had one issue with their contracted providers. Normally, since I’m at work when they come, I tell them to give me a call in half an hour because I work half an hour away from my home. One day, they never called, but they kept telling me they called me. I told them their workers lied to them. I told them, “I’m going to tell you how I know your workers lie. When you call my home number, it calls my cell phone ‘cause all my calls are forwarded. So if he called me, I would have gotten the phone call." I had a log on my phone and I could show them no one called. They still tried to stick me with the service fee. I kept going back and forth with the American Home Shield and they finally removed that fee from my account.

Years ago when my AC broke the first time, a guy came out and said that he couldn’t the work on the AC unit because there was a beehive in it. He left so I called American Home Shield back. The person whom I talked to at American Home Shield said anybody who worked in that field knew that was something where bees always build their hives at. When he called the next company, the guy who came knew what he was doing.

I had a good experience with American Home Shield itself. Their customer service is good. They understood my problem and listened patiently to my story. I had an issue with the pipes in the laundry room, where the hookup for the washing machine was. The faucets were leaking and I didn't know if there was some pressure building up in there. It was just not working right and I could not connect the washing machine to the pipes. Plus, when I turn on the faucet, water spilled all over the place.

It was supposed to be something simple but it turned out to be something far more complicated. Originally, my case was assigned to one plumber. I don't have any complaints on American Home Shield's end. However, the first contractor assigned to my case didn't take it seriously at first. He came and said that he will have to break down the walls and change all the pipes. I was okay with that. Then he said that I might have to pay separately for the actual replacement of the pipes, which I was also fine with.

He said he would contact American Home Shield and then AHS will get back to me in a timely manner. However, the plumber never got the next appointment. When I tried to get an appointment after a few days, he said he's leaving for a vacation and wanted to set appointments with me three days in advance. I couldn't get the appointment on a Wednesday because he said he's leaving on Friday for his vacation. I was told that when he comes back, then I can call. I called him Tuesday after he came back. At this point, it was already three weeks since the whole process started. He said that the labor rate changed and he's going to have to do this claim all over again. I said, "Okay."

When I made the appointment with him again after the claim restarted, he gave me a date for the following week. He asked whether Tuesday or Wednesday was good. I remember this very well and I told him Tuesday works. I didn't want to do it Wednesday. Then the following week, Tuesday, he never showed up. When I called him, he said that I never confirmed. At that point, I was still quite patient with him. I told him we can still do it. The conversation didn't go that well because even though I was trying to complain to him, he kept saying that I am the one who's delaying. He was blaming me and I told him I'm ready to work out something. However, anytime I tried to speak to complain he kept his phone down and wouldn't actually listen to me. I'm not being rude, I'm just complaining in a nice way.

Then he'd pick his phone up again and ask if I'm ready to listen to him. That wasn't nice. Then he himself says that I've lost faith in his plumbers and his work. I told him I'm ready to work out something, but he was showing me a weird attitude. I asked if he was coming in with the pipes during the next appointment to do the work. He told me that he's coming in just to look at it and then he'll let American Home Shield know again that the pipes need to be changed. I told him he already did that.

There were a few annoying things like that but I still tried to work with him, but he showed me a lot of attitude on the phone. He told me that he didn't think that they're going to work well with me. So I ended it. I called Home Shield and told them what happened. It took another week for American Home Shield to get me another contractor. The second contractor who came to do the plumbing came in and looked at the pipes. He said that only the faucets have some issues and I didn't have to break the wall. He fixed it right then. It's been a month now since the second plumber came in. It only took him 20 minutes and everything is working fine.

I didn't want him to touch my stuff after the first contractor looked at it because when I was told that I had to break the whole wall down, I thought that this thing is going to be bad. I didn't touch it myself. However, the second contractor was very courteous and on time. He told me the whole issue and kept me well-informed.

They evidently don't have enough people answering their phones. And online, I don't know if I've gotten through. It's a waiting game and see if you really got through.

The contractor that they sent, CK Appliance, was top notch, though. They come from another town. Their tech understood what I was saying and he ordered the needed part. He also realized that because of that it was also causing some problems with my clock, so he got that as well. Both appliances are, so far, doing good. I also had one contractor before and that person also did a good job. He was a little older and a little more experienced. I'm not always having an admiration for some of the people because I think they train them too fast. But though AHS does well in some areas and not in others, I renewed them for next year.

I had the pipelines replaced and then I paid the plumbers the service charge. I used to give the service charge to the service people but when I renewed my contract, I was not told that the service charge is sent to you. So the plumbers got it and then they took it out on my bank and left me overdrawn. They were supposed to send in a correction, but who knows how long it would take and what's going to happen. Nonetheless, I've had American Home Shield for years and they're really good. I called them to file a claim and they took care of it in a day. Their reps have been very polite and helpful so my experience has been excellent.

The plumber did an amazing job and the electrician corrected the problem. However, the plumber didn't have the whole order from the agents that I spoke to at American Home Shield. We had a stoppage in our sink in the bathroom where there's a flow leak and I gave that information to the Home Shield rep and the plumber didn't have it on his work order. It was very difficult to get through to American Home Shield because the first time that I called I had to wait an hour on hold. I didn't have that kind of time again so I didn't call them back. And then we made a mistake, we lost the bill and all of the papers that were around the house because we were moving in. We grabbed papers so they emailed my husband.

The rep was personable and a great person. It was a great phone experience. However, she was taking her time and making sure we went back to everything more than once. She refused the services that I was requesting to be done a couple of times. There was no particular category for the slow drain in the sink. Maybe there was something the plumber didn't understand or she missed because that's the only gray area.

The contractor sent out by American Home Shield was professional, quick, didn't leave any mess, many times cleaned up, helpful, knowledgeable and everything was fixed. The toilets are working great. The drain from the AC fan overflow is not leaking onto the ground anymore. Everyone was doing what we called them to do. It's just that we weren't able to get the slow drain repaired under that same visit. If we had to call them back out we were going to have to pay another 75 bucks. But everything looks good, we can flush our toilets and we don't have to worry about a ceiling leak so it's been a great relief to know that all those things have been repaired properly.

American Home Shield is a great company. I have been with them for 10 years and they have always fixed anything that we had go wrong. Air conditioning is probably the biggest expense that they covered. When filing a claim, I make sure I do both over the phone and online, though it depends on where I am at the time. If I do it online, we receive an email right away. Their reps have always been very good too. When our garbage disposal wasn't working, contractors came out and replaced it. Everything went pretty smoothly.

We had a plumbing blockage and submitted a claim online. The guy that American Home Shield sent out fixed it in about 10 minutes. When you've got a blocked sink you stop using it. So, it hampered us a little bit. But now, it's working perfectly. The online service works very well and their contractors were good. I just let them in, do their job, and then let them out. It's a pain-free experience and the job gets done.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about 12 years and I have it for my several rental properties. For the most part, I do it online when I submit a claim, but a lot of times I would call back in to make sure in case there’s another checkbox to clarify exactly what the issue is. It’s pretty easy to get through but some of the selections that are available don't 100% cover all of the issues that could potentially happen. Most of the time, the claim was for my rental properties so I would always end up having them coordinate with the time schedule of my tenants. I’ve had to have people come out multiple times where sometimes it wasn’t the best vendor on the program. I have seen some improvement with the last few that came, but I’ve had some cases where I’ve had to have them recall. It can get a little frustrating sometimes but overall, I’m satisfied with them.

We had a situation where something was coded incorrectly and right now they got me in limbo as if I owe a fee. Every time I call, they say that they’re working on the situation. I had to do a recall on the plumbing because it happened again within 60 days but when they came back, they left a hole in the ceiling and it was another person that had to come in and fix it. American Home Shield coded it as a new service and I’ve been getting all these bills and urgent messages. They tell me to keep ignoring the messages and I don’t really have the time to keep calling back but it’s been over two months now. I’ve been with them a long time so I’m a bit more tolerant of it.

I’m praying nothing else happens to the property because I don’t want to be in a situation where I need to put another service and that’s coded on my account as something is wrong. Maybe I can call in and they’ll see the notes and it wouldn’t be an issue, but I was hoping it gets resolved. Overall, American Home Shield is a decent company and there are opportunities with some of the vendors that they have on their program.

I'm ready to cancel my service with AHS, since they say one thing and do another thing. I submitted a claim with them a month ago for my dryer. The first person who took my call wanted the dryer to be fixed because it wasn't coming on. I also asked them if they'd service the washer and they told me yes. However, when the first technician came out, he told me that the ones who answered the phone were a bunch of kids and that he doesn't know why they told me that he could service the washer since he couldn't. I told him that it isn't a problem since the washer is working and that I just didn't want to have to pay a hundred extra dollars a month later if something happened to it. He also didn't fix the dryer the first time he came, since he told me that he had to order the parts, which would come in after two weeks. He told them that he'll come back after that and fix the unit.

Within that two-week span, I called him back but he had a whole different story to tell. He had told AHS that my house was flooded, and that what happened to my unit was an act of God and that he couldn't fix it. I told AHS that that was not what he told me when he came out. They then sent someone else, who was really nice and fixed my dryer. They also sent a contractor to see why the washing machine was doing what it was doing. I called them and they told me that I didn't have to pay for it since they were supposed to look at it when they took a look at my dryer. The contractor told me that the washing machine repair was going to cost $600, which I wasn’t going to do.

So then I kept calling back in to see if the contractor had written a report, and I kept calling back in for them to tell me what he said. They kept saying that they didn’t have the report yet and that they were going to send for it. It’s been over a month now and I haven't heard anything back from AHS. AHS is not consistent and if I’m going to pay $50 a month for service, I expect a little better service.

The technicians come to our area only on a certain day. My wife filed the claim over the phone on a Thursday and they were here that Wednesday which was when they said they were going to be here. One contractor came out, checked the problem and what parts they needed. Then it was another one that actually came and did the work. They were both respectful and knew what they were doing. I was impressed with both of the young men who came. Everything is working since the repair. We have been well pleased with American Home Shield. I purchased a home warranty 2 years ago that covered the appliances in my condo. I placed my first claim several weeks ago and was informed by the repairman that I needed the hinges replaced on the door of my oven to get the oven door to shut completely. He said he would order the replacement part and come back in 7-10 business days to fix the door. Over 2 weeks later I get a call from AHS stating that the part is back ordered but that they can have the hinges removed and repaired by another company but it would take 6 to 8 weeks for them to do so. Or if I prefer they would give me the cost of the repair ($340) so I can buy a new oven.

Basically they are giving me the options of being without an oven for 2 months or giving me $340 to replace a $1000 oven. If the company truly believes that the 2 months is a reasonable amount of time to repair an oven door I would warn any prospective clients to beware of signing up with this company. It took me 45 minutes to speak with someone on the phone and they will not transfer you to a supervisor in the event you are unhappy with your options. They said they will send a message to their escalation department and they will call you back in 24-48 hours but if you happened to miss the call you will have to call them back and wait another 24-48 hours for another callback. I'm waiting to see what works out with the escalation department but I'm not holding my breath. I am about ready to place my complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Illinois Department of Insurance.

As a real estate broker I am constantly in the middle of home warranty company recommendations. It's part of the job. Since approximately 2005 I have been recommending American Home Shield (AHS) to my clients interested in home warranties. My sales area has included Malibu, Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Barbara. Today I call Madera County home. My home is also covered by AHS, and has been since 2013. Admittedly, in the past, my wife has been in charge of calling and organizing with AHS. Today, I had my first experience.

I called AHS for my home repairs after noticing some odd noises coming from our gas furnace. I am so embarrassed for having recommended them for so long. Please, let me tell you why. You must order service from automated systems. I chose the phone system over the website. There is no human option provided in the prompt. You can press "0" but nobody answers.

Today, I live in a rural mountain area of California. There is a local Heating & Air company that is certified to make repairs for AHS who has been in business for 50+ years, yet the automated system assigned a company from out of town with 10 years of experience. Note: When AHS sends an out-of-town repairman the repair doesn't always get repaired. Our last issue involved a toilet. The repairman said he couldn't fix the toilet after we wrote him a check. When I contacted his company they said they wouldn't return because of the far drive. This isn't just a problem with AHS. If you live in a rural area you know companies from out of town don't like to drive back out to your house. That said, if there is a local company, AHS should be using them. Do not use AHS if you live in a rural area.

Since the automated system assigned an out of town company I should be kind and talk to AHS about it right? Nope. You can't address issues with AHS unless you can sit on hold for over two hours. This is not an exaggeration. The customer service is so bad. As I'm writing this I've been on hold for over an hour. So, if you have a job and can't wait on hold please purchase your home warranty from another company.

To conclude, if you are in real estate sales, do not recommend American Home Shield. If you prefer not to deal with an automated system, do not use AHS. If you do not want to deal with the inevitable excuses of out-of-town repairmen, do not use AHS. If you live in a rural area, do not use AHS. If you don't enjoy taking a day off work because of long hold wait times, do not use AHS. This company is out of touch and does not deserve my business or recommendations anymore. I will not renew with AHS and will do my best to remove their business from my sales area. American Home Shield Agreement **.

AHS is the 3rd Home Warranty company I've used. They are not a good company and it takes over 30 minutes to get anyone on the phone when you call their number. Try it yourself, call and try to speak with someone like you need to file a claim. I've had them for 2 years and when I finally needed to make a claim they denied it. I had a garage door opener fail on me. The springs broke and that's something "not covered". So I paid out of pocket for a repairman to help me fix it. A few months later, my gas dryer left brown streaks on 2 sets of our expensive bed linens. I filed a warranty claim and they sent someone out. He said it was the seal around the drum and would need to order the part.

I have a basic GE dryer, but it took 6 weeks for the repair company to call me back and schedule the repair. I bought new bed linens to replace our damaged units, and on our first wash after the repair, the unit left brown streaks again. I called back to get it fixed and the repair company said I needed to call AHS. I called AHS, but they said it would be another service call fee. I explained the situation and they said that it's been past the "grace period" and I should have called sooner. It took me 6 weeks to get the repair completed. The agent said she had to look into this and get confirmation from the repair company, and call me back. Two months later, I'm still waiting on this call. I called AHS back and cancelled my account. These guys are no better than any of the other home warranty companies out there. They are scams.

We called and waited for over an hour and if that's the typical wait period to get a rep from the phone, then that's something that most people won’t tolerate. Besides that, everything else went well though. They were able to help us and got a person out to the house the next day. Now we have one key to use instead of ten. It was worth the wait and we are considering American Home Shield for our old house that we're renting out as well.

But I got to call them back for my air conditioning problem. The guy who came out did an awesome job on it, but most recently, we have noticed some power surges. We turned the air conditioning off and when we turned it back on, there were power surges. But every time I've called them - and unfortunately I've called them several times this year and I had no idea when I got it back this year that I would have to call them that much - they’ve been pretty good! I even talked to him and told him he was supposed to fix my stove. However, I waited about a week and a half to get him and it took him three weeks to come back and put it back. And now, the burner that was supposedly fixed was not getting hot enough so I called them and it was taking a week and a half to get them back out here. The service was good and I usually got the problem solved, but getting them to our house wasn’t good at all. I also had to wait a week the first time I called and evidently, it was the norm for them because they did it twice to me.

On the other hand, they were really good when I talked to them. Sometimes I got them on the phone and sometimes I got a recording. The only problem I had was nine times out of ten, they always said that I owe them money whenever I call them when I didn't. At that time, we had to pay the $75 to the vendor who came to do the work and now, they changed it. I had to give them a credit card and they would take the money to make sure that the vendor gets paid. In addition to that, I had an electrician come out and I paid the money, but he did not do what he was supposed to. So, I called them again, said I wanted somebody else and they called another so I had to pay another $75. Also, my year was about up and with what they're wanting, it was a little expensive and I couldn't afford it. But their technicians went a whole lot better every time and overall, I had very good luck with American Home Shield. I like them.

We moved into a new house and I recently had my locks changed. I filed that claim on the phone when I was calling American Home Shield about a different matter. I wasn’t in a rush for the lock issue, so I booked it for the next week but they had someone out very quickly for the other claims I made. Customer service is very good and I'm very pleased with them. In the past, I'd call two to three times and I'd be on hold for 45 minutes before I could talk to a person, but last time was only 15 minutes. Also, it would be nice if there was a comment section online where you can put a little more detail into the issue because it was just click this or that.

My interactions with their technicians were good. One issue I had with AHS was when the first people they sent out were not able to resolve my plumbing issue. It was a stoppage that was 40 feet into the pipe and it was causing the toilet and the tub to both back up. The contractors did the snake thing both in the sink pipe and through the tub pipe and they were not able to clear the stoppage. They just cleaned up, packed up, and left with the problem still there. So, I called AHS and had them send out a different technician. They told me they were going to charge me $75 fee if they said the same thing. I said, "No, I think they're able to fix it. The first people just couldn't do it." So, the second company they sent out fixed the plumbing issue in 15 minutes using the same method that the first company did and I wasn't charged that extra $75 fee.

Besides the first plumbing company, the other three people I've had out for my issues have all been great and have resolved the issue. So far, it's been good. We've never had American Home Shield before, but having it feels like there's a safety net there for you. I'm sure they don't cover 100% of what issues can happen, but it's nice to know that we have some coverage even if we're getting into a house that's four years old and we didn't know what we were walking into.

I needed about two little night lights that have switches on them so I could plug them into the wall receptacles and I could turn the light on when I needed light and turn them off when I didn't.

I brought those two little light home. I plugged one into the wall by the refrigerator and it worked. I turned the switch on and off, and it was fine. I plugged them into the plug between the stove and the microwave and the bulb blew up and blew my circuit. That was a GFI wall plug and when I tried to reset it, it wouldn't reset. I looked all over this house - in every closet, in the garage - for a for a fuse box. I went around outside with a flashlight but I couldn't see anything from where I was shining the light that looked like a fuse box.

I called AHS and they scheduled Kelly Electric which were supposed to be here between 2:00 o'clock and 4:00 o'clock. The guy showed up about 5:20. He had gotten tied up on previous job, but he was a nice guy. He went in and took the GFI receptacle out of the wall, put his reader on it, and said it got no power. I told him I didn't know where the fuse box was so he went around and walked around the other side of the house where the electricity comes in the house, there's where he found the fuse box. A breaker had tripped and he came right to it. He put the receptacle back in the wall and I was back in business. So it was really not a repair, it was just flipping a breaker back on. But that was not the first service call I've had since I've been to this house. When I first moved here, the refrigerator went out and AHS got that fixed. I had the garbage disposal quit and they got that fixed, too.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and before, I would just pay the serviceman a check and that was it. But since they don't let the service people collect their service fee, I don't know how am I supposed to pay AHS. I've talked to several different people from Mississippi to Beaumont to Georgia, and I'm still kind of in the dark about it. I called customer service and I was on hold for 30 minutes. They got the most hideous background music that you got to listen to. I just put in on speaker, lie down, and wait. But even after talking to two different girls, still I'm not satisfied, if they're going to email me with instructions on what to do. From that standpoint, I'm pretty disappointed. Also, the email that I get from AHS tells me I can go to my AHS account but when I tried that, it asked me for a password. And none of these people I talked to can tell me how to get a password.

A dishwasher started leaking and it was pretty easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. They sent a technician out. He was very helpful because he quickly determined the pump or something was leaking, and that's where all the water was coming from. We pulled the dishwasher. We're in Houston, Texas where we had flooding. Right now, it's kind of difficult to get other stuff done. We're just waiting for my wife to pick out the type of replacement dishwasher that she wants.

American Home Shield does very well as far as getting someone out here quickly. The technicians also generally diagnose the problem quickly. Our home is 20 years old and so appliances are starting to break down. They’ve been very helpful in determining whether we have to replace them or not. But we generally have to spend additional funds to get a replacement appliance that we want that's a little higher grade than what they generally offer. And though American Home Shield didn’t do quite as well on the previous claim, they did very well on our last one.

The hot water heater was leaking so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I filed it online, then the contractor called me the next day. The technician came out in a week and fixed the pipe that was leaking. The guy who came out was friendly. But I was outside with my stuff and when I looked up, he was already inside my house. My son was in there, so he was upset. When I opened the front door to let my son out, his eyes were so huge and he looked at me like he was wondering, “What’s he doing in here?” The tech was done working on the repair and he didn’t see me outside, but I was upset that he came in and walked through my house, just because I didn’t answer the door.

Apart from that, I filed another claim for my duct work under the house which may have opened because I can feel the heat coming out from underneath when I turn on the furnace. The furnace was also making noise. So I called AHS about these issues and the techs have been scheduled to come out in two weeks, so they’re coming next week. On the whole, I would recommend AHS.

I've had American Home Shield for eight years and they're one of the excellent companies I deal with. Their customer service is excellent and I like their online app. Their response time is sometimes an hour, sometimes 10 minutes when I put it in. It's really convenient for me. I usually work night shift, so I don’t have to be calling them to claim it on the day shift. I just put it in and they call for an appointment. I filed a claim when the air conditioning was not cooling. The contractor they used was really professional and they explained to me what the problem was. It did not take much time to get the parts ready. Now, everything is working. Overall, nobody likes to deal with insurance companies, but American Home Shield is not just a company and it's more than insurance. If something breaks or if something needs to be done, they have the online website where you can purchase plans, which I never use but maybe in the future, I’ll buy something from them.

Filing a claim with AHS seems to be a lot easier when you submit it online because if you try to call in, you have to wait a very long period of time. My property manager tried to do it one time and she told me she had to hang up because it was too long. Their reps are all right. They are probably better than some of the other home warranty companies out there. I've had other home warranty companies that are not as good as they are. AHS seems to cover a lot of things. They give a little bit more when things aren’t covered. What they have, is a modification. Modification basically is something where there's a city ordinance on something like gas. If the gas is really dirty, they put a sediment pan below it.

Some companies will cover those modifications. Most companies will not because it's an extra cost that’s incurred. They always give that cost back to the consumer because that’s how a lot of companies operate these days. American Home Shield also does a good job when it comes to getting the claim submitted in a timely manner and I get a text right away. I call the company and I just tell them, “You have to call this guy’s phone number, the guy that I have renting.”

I also have AHS in my home. They came out one time to look at my dryer. That was fine and it was just cosmetic. He didn’t even have anything to do with the mechanical and they won't fix cosmetics things. They tend to cover mechanical failures. A loose handle on a refrigerator is probably not covered, whereas if it's not cooling properly or something of that nature, then they're going to cover it.

However, their contractors sometimes send guys that don’t know what they're doing. They show up in a truck and they don’t have the proper equipment. They come in and they're here to assess the situation. I have my own handyman that I use in situations when I have to do a larger type of cleaning up the rental or replacing certain things. But when it comes to water heaters and air conditioning units, he doesn’t do that kind of stuff, so I got to keep what I have.

Plumbing is going to be one of the areas where contractors take a huge advantage of you because, basically, people just don’t know. If I told you what a manifold was, all it is is the pipe and breaks off into other pipelines. But if you get these plumbers, what they do is, “Oh, your manifold is all screwed up. We don’t know where the leak is. We're going to have to locate it.” That’s all nonsense. You take a wrench when it's a copper pipe and you tap on it. You can tell whether or not there's a leak in one from the sound that it makes.

When it comes down to it, you keep these type of home warranties, especially on a rental, because everything that I get from the rental, I can write off. It's tax deductible. Then the tenant is responsible for anything under $100 and it's on the contract. I keep American Home Shield because the policy can be written off every year and it's a good policy to have. I don’t have to interact with the tenant and I send the contractor over there. Then I get the invoice online that it's been completed. Although this last one, I haven't gotten yet. I have more than one policy with American Home Shield. I have two residential policies with them.

I've gotten ripped off before by contractors. Contractor time is not regular time. They have too many things going on so it's better to use the American Home Shield because then they're held accountable. It's also a lot easier. You just submit the claim and they send out the contractor on their own. It's more convenient for the person that’s in a position who doesn’t have time to deal with it. It is a little bit more expensive than other companies, but you tend to get better service. The contractors and technicians that they dispatch seem to have knowledge of their product.

One of the worst contractors out there is L&S Heating and Air. They don’t know what they're doing half of the time. I had a guy come out during the summer here in Henderson in Las Vegas, which is very warm here in the summer. They had to come out four times because they kept trying to fix the same thing over and over again, and it was just a different thing. They didn’t have knowledge of really what it was. Then, I had a guy from American Home Shield that came and fixed the air conditioner. He fixed it right the first time and that’s why I use AHS. They're pretty good at what they do.

They never heard the noise that it was making until the other day. The AC will cool then will start making noise. The air it blows is not cold, it's just blowing out the fan. I was happy with American Home Shield's response time when I filed a claim for a clogged up toilet. I could've been happier though. The day you call AHS, technicians can never come out until the next day. This time, they wouldn’t come out the same day but they came out the next day. That’s a little concerning. A lot of times when they send people, I have to wait longer versus if I didn’t have a warranty and I just called somebody who will come out right away. There was a time when I had an air conditioner that wasn’t working and I made a claim and they didn't come out for four days. Luckily, I had two air conditioning systems.

I also had a different company come over to fix my dryer and I wasn't happy. They kept changing their appointments and then the technician told me that he wanted to take the dryer apart and clean out a bunch of stuff because of the lint and that would cost me extra money that I would have to pay to him directly. He convinced me to do it but I wish I didn't since I didn't think he knew what he was doing. This was an inexpensive dryer that’s not very old. Ever since the fix, it became very noisy. I don't think he put things back together as it should have been. He also took my check, but I kept getting bills saying that I didn't give him a check when I did. I had to make four phone calls to get that cleared up. The technicians had to come back three different times to get my problem fixed that time and they were very unprofessional. I called AHS and told them that I wasn’t happy with them and I would not use them again.

Also, the way AHS schedules service online is not efficient and I wish the response times were better. The wait time when I have to call in to try to get something rectified, I have to wait so long. When there was a problem with the plumber thing where I didn’t pay my check to the plumber, I had to wait for 25 minutes. I owed $250 them on a service call then but when I talked to their rep, she told me that it was only showing $125. I then told her that I'd pay it over the phone but she told me that I had to do it online. I went online but it was still showing $250 on there.

I had to call back and this time, I only waited for 10 minutes. The rep I got was super nice and was ready to take my payment so I gave her my information. But she forgot to ask something, either the back card number or the expiration number, so I still had to go back online again and changed that. Overall, I like having AHS and I get peace of mind from it, but they need to have a better customer service by not having me wait forever on the phone.

I had an issue when my AC had went out. It was horrible, three weeks with no AC. When I initially called American Home Shield, it was right around Hurricane Harvey. I called and the agent I spoke to was a gentleman. He informed me that their system was down and he was mainly creating a ticket for me, and that someone will call me from one of their contracting companies between four to 48 hours. No one contacted me so I followed up the following week to say, “Hey, what’s the status? What’s going on?” They had no record of it. So, I escalated to the supervisor. He told me no supervisor was available and they'll submit a ticket and they will get in contact in 72 hours. I told them I can’t wait 72 hours and I needed to escalate to someone right then.

They transferred me to an escalation department and I spoke with a young lady. I explained the situation to her. She was supposed to investigate the call. She said that she will waive the $100 deposit and she scheduled someone to come out immediately. So, they sent someone out from their contracting company, but we’ve been told that the guy that they sent out was inexperienced on the job.

I arrived home first and then the tech came shortly after. As soon as I approached my home, he was coming from the side of my home like they had already assessed my AC and did something to my AC. I told them, “I didn’t give you guys permission to look at my AC. I told you guys that I was on my way and you said that you’ll wait too. You didn’t tell me that you were here sitting and waiting.” He asked me what was going on and I explained to him that it was obvious that I have a leak and my house is not cooling. I knew that I was leaking freon. I asked him if he could tell me where the leak was so he pulled out this Windex bottle, went into my attic, and he started spraying the unit with this Windex. He said he was looking for bubbles. He asked if I have a leak and I told him it was probably leaking freon. And he said, “Well, show me where the leak is.” I told him, “Well, how do I show you the leak? I didn’t go to school for this.”

At that time, my fiance had chimed in and he said, “Sir, we don’t know where the leak is. That’s why we contacted the home warranty for a company to have them come out and to assist us to find the leak to resolve the problem. We’re not going to keep paying for freon.” The tech said, “Well, that’s the problem ma’am ‘cause I can’t find the leak.” I asked if he had the electronic leak reader. We did our research and we knew there were multiple ways that they can look for a leak. He said they didn't have that and we needed freon which would be 14 pounds. I told him I was not paying for 14 pounds of freon. I knew that I had to buy freon, but I needed him to fix the issue that’s causing the leak.

I escalated that night. It happened on a Friday. I was on the phone for four hours because they wouldn’t send anybody out. When they said they were going to have someone to come out, they said eight o’clock in the morning. He didn’t call me until 11 o’clock. I asked him what time he'd be here and he said he was not going to be out until one o’clock. American Home Shield didn’t send somebody else to fix it. I was so frustrated because I took off work. So, I contacted them and stayed on the phone because when you call American Home Shield, you have to wait more than an hour, two hours just to get a person. I'm very dissatisfied with them.

Although the site was really easy to navigate, there was only one option for electrical and it was vague, but it worked. I couldn't tell what the problem was myself, so I had American Home Shield send someone out. The electrician quickly deduced that it was the circuit breaker, but he couldn't locate a replacement because of the age of the panel. He did a temporary jury-rig to enable us to use our drier and use it safely, and gave the instructions on how to do so. The panel needed to be replaced and he told us that it's what he would recommend to the home warranty. AHS sent someone else out for a second opinion and they said the same thing, so the panel got replaced. My interactions with both contractors who were sent out were very good.

Working with AHS was both a good and bad experience. We bought a house that has a very high-end kitchen in it so we also got a home warranty. I have a very specific problem and I had to go through it two or three times because whoever is taking the information there wasn't getting it. We had our ice machine separate and it's not the ice maker in the refrigerator. The first time they sent somebody out, it was somebody for the ice machine in the refrigerator, even though we are very clear about it. That was a waste of a trip. Then somebody else came out and they had to get the parts.

There was a noise from our refrigerator and the guy who was working on the ice machine said, "You really should get that fixed." We have a huge, expensive refrigerator and getting it fixed wouldn't cost so much money, but if it broke, then it would be a whole other story. We called American Home Shield and went through it one more time, and said this is the part that needs to be ordered. They called a whole different company. It's so much waste of time to get to what needs to be done and they send people who aren't the right people.

Our refrigerator that's here wasn't working. They sent a company twice and it still wasn't working. That same company said that the door needs to be replaced. American Home Shield was ready to trash the refrigerator and would only give us $3000 towards a $10,000 - $15,000 refrigerator. We said we'll pay for another opinion before we do that. They sent another guy who said that the previous company put the seal upside down and backwards. Also, it said it on the seal's box that you should open it up and lay it out. Then put it in warm water. But they said that they don't have to do that and they just use the heat gun. Then AHS tried billing us. I said, "Why should we pay that extra $75 when the guy from the first company came out twice, and they didn't do it right?" I told them they shouldn't pay that company either.

Something happened to our air conditioning. They called this company and the company called us. They told us they're from Tallahassee and can't get here for three days. I told that that that's not going to work. David called back American Home Shield and they got somebody else to come out. That was expensive because there was a leak on the Freon and we had to pay for the Freon. Then that company from Tallahassee called me yesterday asking if we still need service. I couldn't even remember why we called for the air conditioning. Then they reached me this morning and I asked when I called them. They told me September. That's such a long time ago. American Home Shield didn't call them back to tell them that we didn't need them.

Fortunately, my husband is retired and is at home. If we were both working and have to be home every time someone came, that would have changed the whole dynamics of it and we'd probably stop. I can’t keep taking off from work if they’re not doing the right thing, sending the right people who know what they’re doing. We didn’t have to worry about that because he was home. It's still a pain in the neck though. There were times when he was working from home and he couldn’t really be with them while they were doing the work. He just had to let them do the work because he was on conference calls. Still, we'll probably renew with them. I'm glad that we have a home warranty so I hope that they keep our rate and our deductible the same.

I’ve been dealing with American Home Shield year after year and I’m very unhappy. Every time I call them, it takes some time to resolve the problem. But sometimes, there would be a waterline leakage and since you have the kids at home, you cannot just shut off the main valve. You wait 24 hours and if they get it done, that’s okay. But if you wait 24 to 48 hours, then somebody’s going to email you and schedule the service for two or three days later, that's not good. In some of those cases, I call my handyman to fix the other stuff instead. If you have an emergency, then it should be dealt right away. It makes no sense to wait and schedule this and that. Even though I’m requesting, they say nothing is available.

One time, I had my dryer broken and it took me forever to get that fixed. They said we needed a new one but it was never replaced. It was very inconvenient then I sold the house but even after that, they would be calling me several times, month after month, asking for other stuff. They said it was computer generated and that was why they were calling me. I've also already told them that certain people were not good or slow on time. With one of the technicians, I was asking some questions and he was so mad. I was thinking to cancel one of those Home Shield accounts but it takes forever every time I try.

My refrigerator's ice maker wasn’t working quite properly. It was leaking water and then, the water dispenser was also leaking. I called American Home Shield and they sent out a tech to fix those items. Initially, I tried to call them but I wasn’t getting through very easily. So I ended up just going online and putting in a claim that way. That worked well. Within hours they responded back online and said they had got my response.

From that point forward, it went really well. They were able to contact a business where I live and was able to get out here in a day or two. They came out and diagnosed the problem before doing any work. Then I found out they have to call Home Shield back to get permission to go ahead and make repairs. Eventually, we got everything fixed that we needed to have fixed within six days so it wasn't bad at all. And although the service people who came here are very highly recommended, Home Shield could improve on the call in. The wait times are fairly long. I've tried to interact with the call center and was on the phone between 30 and 40 minutes. So, that's not good. Overall, we're still happy with the service we got.

It's been eight months since I've been with American Home Shield. They are friendly when you call them and are 100% better than the warranty provider I had before. If I've had a problem with the contractor that they're about to send out, I tell AHS and they move on to the next person on their list. For the most part, the claims I have submitted to them have been good, but I had an issue with the one for my water heater. They replaced it but I didn't get what I had and it irritated me. Also, some of their contractor companies are not good. I'll definitely keep my warranty with AHS as long as they keep up the good work.

American Home Shield was great. It was easy submitting a claim for my hot water heater. They couldn’t get to me for five days because I’m a realtor here in Destin so one of their local reps, Suzanne, reached out and expedited my call. She was very helpful and was always positive. AHS got a guy out and got it fixed. The contractor was fantastic and my hot water heater has been working great. Everybody ought to have AHS. I’m very pleased with American Home Shield and promoting it as part of my business plan.

A neighbor recommended AHS and I’ve been with them for about five years now. Recently, we filed a claim for a dishwasher that went out and everything’s been done except for the check from AHS because we bought one instead of having them install theirs. We’re waiting for the install and they said we’d receive $507 reimbursement. I faxed in the sales receipt but I have not received the check yet. It’s been almost two weeks.

So far, I am satisfied with their response per service call. Generally, I make down my request within the day if somebody calls me to come in and do the service. However, their phone system is not up to date. I have to wait 30 minutes or more to get a representative when I contact them. They need to get more people but they were very friendly, knowledgeable and quick to respond. On the other hand, the contractors that they sent out were very good and knew what they were doing. But I’d recommend that they upgrade their website so we could get an update on our status online instead of trying to call them.

The air conditioning wasn't coming on and working correctly so we called American Home Shield, waited for about 30 minutes to get a hold of a rep, and then they sent somebody out to fix it. They checked everything and said there was nothing wrong with it, and then they left. But it still didn't work so they came back, changed the piece out, and it was fixed. However, the same thing happened, it didn't work. They have to send somebody else out, fixed it again, changed another part out, and still didn't work. Finally, on the fourth visit and with another part replaced, we had it fixed today. The contractor was very good, he’s pleasant to be around and he seems to know what he was doing. He looked and acted in a professional way. Assuming the air conditioning is fixed, I’m very happy with it.

American Home Shield needs to be more available on the telephone though. Customers don’t have to wait 30 minutes to get a hold of somebody. They want us to submit everything online but every time, I have issues with their website. Probably because I don't let the cookies go in my computer, but the site can't find my policy half the time. So, that's why we call them.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for the clogged master drain outside my house. The contractor came the next day, when they were supposed to come, and were professional. The overall process has been easy and smooth. The problem was my daughter and her friends have been wrapping hygiene products in paper towels and flushing them. As he was getting four of those out, he found one, tiny little piece of a branch or root. Pretty much as soon as he found that, he said that he couldn't do it anymore unless I pay him directly. I understand the AHS won't pay if the problem was caused by roots, but what caused the clog was the other things he found and I ended up paying him another $150 out of my own pocket. To blame it on the roots is a little excessive.

We've been happy with American Home Shield. It's nice to just call one number instead of searching around for plumbers or air conditioning and refrigeration people. My husband filed almost all of our claims online and it’s been an easy experience for him. He just clicked and then after about three days, someone would come out. However, because of the hurricane, there was one claim that took a little longer.

The techs who American Home Shield sent were 100% nice. They were excellent as well, except for the one who came out when we submitted our most recent claim. Our washing machine had leaking water, so they searched and sent a plumber out. He was polite and respectful, and most of our interactions were very good. But, he seemed overwhelmed and was not having a good day. He also said he had ten other places to go after me. When the service was over, I said to him, "This was wrong and this was wrong." And he replied, "I just got on the phone and looked around a little bit," and then told me that he couldn't find the part. He made it very clear that he was not fond of Samsung washing machines. Also, he said that he would turn the part in to see if American Home Shield had better luck than him in finding the part. If not, then the company would come up with the thing on if the washing machine couldn't be fixed by replacing the part.

I called American Home Shield yesterday and talked to a representative. She then called the people that order parts and they said they were finding the part at that time, so they were going to get back with us once they find out if they could get the part. We still don't have a washing machine. Another time we filed a claim was after Irma. The electricity went out so we lost all of our stuff in our freezer. And then, we replenished it. However, the freezer went out and we had to call American Home Shield. The man who came fixed it. He also noticed that there was a hole in the water line where I get water from the refrigerator and then fixed it. This claim, together with the one for the bathtub, has been resolved and the quality of service was excellent.

We bought a home and the sellers purchased the AHS plan for us. Our air conditioner failed. Before we remembered we have AHS, we'd scheduled to have somebody come out and it was just a two-day wait but it was going to be $180 for them to show up and then whatever the cost of the thing was. AHS was way cheaper but we had to wait longer so we had to balance the odds between what we'd rather have.

I called AHS and got straight through. I explained to the lady what the issues were. The submission and the scheduling part were easy. However, the technician couldn’t get in for two weeks and it was during the 100-degree weather so the waiting was longer than I wanted. It was the hottest couple of weeks in Portland so they were incredibly busy, but also the worst two weeks without the air conditioning. When the day came, my husband was the one who’s here and he said that the technician was efficient, figured things out right away and had the part that he needed to fix it. After the repair, the unit works and looks just like it did beforehand. It doesn’t make any weird noises. Overall, it ended up being worth the wait for us and we’re happy with AHS.

The vendors call majority of the time but we didn’t get a call from Big Ten Appliance and my wife left a message a lot of times and even I left a message. I called a couple of days ago to American Home Shield to let them know that Big Ten Appliance was not returning our call. We also had a great experience with them in the past but it’s been a nightmare with the icemaker in the fridge. I really got frustrated because none of us can get the ice and I don’t know what happened to this.

This is the third time we’re calling them to tell them to check on it because the ice just stops and then they get stuck. When the kids open the fridge, it melts and the water comes out. They are coming this Tuesday so we’re hoping that they will be able to resolve it. It’s been over two weeks and it’s very unusual for the Big Ten Appliance. Prior to that, the contractor who came to our house has been very professional and nice that we've never had a problem that everything was working fine. That aside, American Home Shield is Godsent and they are great.

The AC wasn’t cooling and I called AHS-- the response was pretty quick. It was very easy to submit the claim and the rep I spoke with was pleasant and answered my questions pretty quickly. There wasn’t any question or anything that they had to call me back on. I also got really prompt and immediate response from the vendor. The technician came, and he was excellent and very informative. He let me know each step of the way, what the possibilities were, what he was looking at, and what the problem was. The AC was fixed and it has been working excellently since the repair.

I've been in my house for 11 years and a lot of times, it's a bit of a wait to get a response. Getting the prompt response from the vendor is a huge thing for me. If it's air conditioning, I don’t really want to wait 24 hours when it's 100 degrees and more outside. American Home Shield doesn't use a vendor that typically does that. There's not much they can do because they tell you it could be 24 to 48 hours, but I've never waited 48 hours and rarely has it been 24. Also, I wish they covered the icemaker in the refrigerator because that’s the one thing they don’t cover.

I had to have the pool motor replaced, and it has been perfect since then. I hired the pool company to be my opener and closer this year because I'm so happy with their performance when they came out for AHS repairs. The AHS reps are fine and the contractors are all good. But I had a problem with a contractor years ago. When we had to replace the microwave, I had to wait for months for the replacement. Also, I don't understand why my premium goes up a little bit every year. It should stay at $80 for a couple of years, not go up every year by about $1.53. It always changes which screws me up with my automatic draft. But I've been happy with the service and I have recommended them to others.

As I'm writing this review on AHS I've been on hold 32 minutes... Contacted AHS over 2 weeks ago regarding our Samsung fridge. It took over a week before a 1-star rated (Google) repair person came out. He said they don't work on Samsung, and they are repeatedly assigned Samsung cases even though they've told AHS they don't work on Samsung. Back to square 1. Tried calling AHS several times, each time it says "wait time is greater than 30 minutes." Today it said "wait time is greater than 10 minutes"... still holding.

BTW, tried their website 'chat' option. Got error message, that my internet connection is down (after I just logged into their website and while I'm looking at AHS reviews online). As I continue to hold... I find that AHS has 1,016 negative BBB reviews, compared to 29 positive ones. Some websites will give AHS a 5-star ratings, such as consumeradvocate.com, even though 90% of the reviews shown on their site are terrible. AHS is like an onion, the more you peel, the more it stinks.

There has to be a better way. I have had American Home Shield for quite a few years and they have always done a great job until now. Some of my appliances were purchased when I had the home built 15 years ago. Yes, 15 years ago! I have put a great deal of effort into taking care of what I have. This time my dryer began to sound like a dying moose. I figured since the front of the microwave was cracked and coming apart I'd add that to the claim, the dishwasher wasn't cleaning dishes, and the washing machine had developed a leak and the plastic handle had cracked and fallen off. I used a piece of rope to make a new handle. The only big thing was the dryer.

A repairman did come by and took down numbers from all the affected appliances and told me it was all normal wear and tear. He didn't start any of the appliances or even look at the washing machine seal. Well, that was close to three weeks ago. I attempted laundry this week and the day and the dryer no longer sounded like a dying moose. It had died. It would turn on but not heat up and after a couple minutes all the lights would flash and it would stop. I did my due diligence and called American Home Shield (and was on hold for about 40 minutes the first time). I spoke with a very condescending agent who preferred to speak over me than with me. He informed me that the technician had never sent in a diagnosis. I was told to call the repairman directly which I did. His office said that he had called the diagnosis in on the same day he looked at the appliances.

Okay, so my next call back to American Home Shield took "70" minutes on hold to get an operator. The operator was nice and tried to expedite the repairs. Another man called me back and once again lectured me that it was up to me to be sure that follow-ups were made as they had so many complaints each day that they weren't able to keep an eye on each and every one. Well, I kinda thought that was what computers were for. And, what I was paying for each month. Additionally, he told me that I had to wait on parts and that I was out of luck with the washer because the repairman had never seen one broken like that so it must not be normal wear and tear. "It's plastic!"

Well, I checked back today and see that they have multiplied my one service request into two and still no word on when something MIGHT get fixed. I was promised a supervisor would call me but that never happened. So now I have multiple loads of laundry hanging around my house in hopes that they will eventually dry without souring since there is no laundromat here at work! Soooo disappointed after all the good years we had.

American Home Shield, up until a couple of years ago, was a decent outfit. We have had their service for about 10 years and they used to be pretty efficient, responsive and accurate. The last few times we have had to file a service request it has been a part-time job to get the job scheduled, done, and billed correctly. This last episode is the last straw.

My partner spent literally parts of days trying to get anyone on the telephone to take the service order. Someone finally did come and did fix the ice-maker on the fridge. My partner paid the $75.00 co-payment on the spot, by check. Just as has happened on the last 3 calls, AHS sent a bill in the mail, claiming that we did not pay the $75.00. I tried calling - just got put on hold for 30 minutes and disconnected. I tried logging in - was told it would be 23 minutes and there are 7 people ahead of me. Finally, I wrote them a nastygram and put a copy of the cancelled check in the snail mail to them. I have no idea whether it will do any good.

I think they do this sneaky billing of co-payments that have already been paid in the hopes that people are too old, too stupid, or too disorganized to realize that they have already paid the bill. Heaven only knows how many times a day they collect the co-pay twice, just taking advantage of people. If you think you need appliance insurance, fine, but don't buy it from these people!

We have called 5 times, waiting on average 30+ minutes each time only to be disconnected while waiting. There is no other way to contact them so you are forced to call back and get at the end of the line, again! They sent someone to fix a plumbing issue and the plumber broke our hot water dispenser (later stated he didn’t even notice we had one, although it is the biggest unit under the sink he was working on). The unit failed the day he was there and luckily we were home to prevent major flooding. Now AHS saying they are sending different plumbing company in, new service call, but can’t reach anyone at AHS to find out what is going on. As I sit here on hold for more than 30 minutes now listening to this boring music... Thinking of what the recording tonight when I first dialed the number... Your wait could be GREATER THAN 10 MINUTES is so misleading. One of the problems I have with AHS... MISLEADING. This is my problem and how I got here on hold, waiting for a Customer Service Rep. A week ago my dryer stop heating, I called AHS for service and was immediately assign a technician. Within 24 hours the Tech called to schedule an appointment. The time that he suggested was not good for me. I informed the tech of my hours of work (4 hours a day), telling him that I am available every morning up to 11:30 am which is the time I leave for work... This was a Thursday that we first spoke. So I offered another suggestion, telling the tech that I get off at 4 pm and I can be home by 4:15 pm.

The technician told me that he did not want to get caught in the Friday evening traffic, and that they do not work on the weekend. I asked if it was possible to come on Monday, I am home all day... The tech told me that he would have to give me a call back once he get to the shop and check his schedule... But he would definitely call me on Friday to confirm a possible appointment for Monday... Well, this is when the nightmare begins. I received no call on Friday as promised... So I was thinking that he probably will call on Monday since I told him that I would be home all day on Monday... As the evening came on Monday and no call from the contractor... I called him and got no answer. I left a message asking him to please call me... A few more hours passed, so I decided to call AHS to make them aware of the situation...

AHS suggested that I call the contractor after I told her that I had done this and have received no call. The Customer Service said that she would call the contractor while I wait on the line... When she returned, she also said that no one answered but she left a message for them to contact me. Well, about 5 pm, on 10/30/17, I received a call from a female that could not even pronounce the company's name... Telling me that the contractor would be at my house on 10/31/17 between 8 am and 11 am. Now I had told the contractor when we initially spoke that I leave for work at 11:30 am. On 10/31/17 at 10:19 am, the contractor stated that it's not going to take him long to do the job (he does not know what the problem is at this point).

He did arrive about 10:45 am, I open the door to see a man there with a full arm cast on his left arm. I asked if he was going to be ok, he stated that he was ok, just a little minor surgery. I showed him to the laundry room where the dryer is located. I did not remain in the room with him... But within 20 minutes he came and told me that the dryer is heating now... Plus he made a adjustment to the one of the burners on my stove. He started telling me that the dryer had a blown fuse and he had replaced it and that my dryer was aging and this kind of thing happens... And he went on to say that once the fuse blow... It will probably happen again. What he was saying was not sinking in at the moment because I needed to get to work.

Well, when I returned home that evening of the 31st, I decided to clean from behind the dryer before I return everything to the laundry room... I pulled the dryer out from the wall only to find that this technician did not even connect the dryer vent back to the dryer. Need I say that I was pissed. So I decided since I have to connect the dryer vent myself... That I would replace it with a new one. I came home today 11/02/217 replaced the dryer duct vent ONLY to find out the dryer still is not heating. I was pissed realizing that I had been ripped off by this contractor. I immediately called AHS and was placed on hold. I AM STILL ON HOLD... PLEASE UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION. Well, AHS just picked up. It is now 10:21 pm on 11/02/2017, I waited from 8:30 pm to 10:05 pm to speak with a Customer Service Rep... This is not fair to the customer of AHS.

I have been assigned another contractor to take care of the issue. I still feel that AHS is not doing enough to protect their clients that are paying for warranties. I also wanted other to know that home warranties can be a rip off. You are thinking that when you purchase a home warranty and you have an issue that the company you have selected for a home warranty provider is looking out for you and is there when you have a problem. If you have a couple of hours to wait for a Customer Service Rep to pick up and schedule an appointment... And you do not care about the quality of work or the professionalism of the contractors... Then maybe AHS is for you.

My daughter had American Home Shield and she was saying that they are good people and I should get them, so I did. We had a problem that started two months ago and I had somebody out to look at it. He told me that the water was leaking in the wall in the bathroom and that he had to take the tile or loosen all these stuff. It broke my heart because I just had my bathroom remodeled a few years ago. He said that if he couldn't get in more tile to match the existing tile, he doesn't have to break it.

I called AHS and their reps were so professional. The contractor let me know when he was on his way. Then the tech went into the bathroom, pulled some pipes or something loose in there and installed a steam in the hot bathroom. My husband said it was very hard for him to get it out and that whoever did it didn’t do it right the first time. The guy was so professional and so good. He also had it done so quickly and he didn’t have to break anything. If I had any more problems, I hope I could get him. I had no more plumbing problem after the repair and I love it.

Then, just before Thanksgiving last year, American Home Shield came out for my built-in microwave. They sent a guy who was nice and he said that if it had any problems, we could call him. I noticed that when I push the button on the microwave, it doesn’t come on. I have to hold the door, push it and hold it tight. They sent a guy out last year, too. My daughter-in-law said that the microwave was not working and it won't come off so, I messed with it, shoved it a little bit and it came on. I don’t know what's wrong with it, but it's still not right. The tech came and worked on it, put a little switch in it or something in the door. Other than that, I love their people and I've recommended AHS to my neighbors.

I got AHS as a home warranty on a rental property and they have been good ever since. I’ve had them for around eight years. I’ve done both online and over the phone when filing claims and the reps were fine. I hear from them within a day when filing online. The contractors have also been fine and I had no problems. It's been what I expected and I'd continue to use them. I have even recommended them to a friend.

A couple of weeks ago, my AC wasn't blowing cold air so I called American Home Shield and let them know about it. We’ve had different issues with different appliances so I know the drill and they’re always courteous, friendly, professional and our questions are always answered. They sent the order to one of their vendors and provided us with their contact information. We took it from there and it’s resolved and done. The contractors were good. We're definitely satisfied with AHS.

I've had American Home Shield since May, and it's easy to deal with them and to schedule the appointment. I submitted the claim online and somebody responded very quickly. However, I did not like that their contact did not have weekend appointments. They also had to come out twice. The first time they came out, they said they fixed the ice maker on my refrigerator and it worked for a couple of weeks but then it stopped working again. On the second time they came out, they replaced the whole ice maker. But other than that, they were very professional and courteous.

Having American Home Shield is efficient and cost-effective. My claim started with plumbing but I changed all the way to garbage disposal. I just noticed a drip under the sink two months ago. I submitted my claim online and it's very simple. I entered my phone number, typed in my home address and I did the request online. They called me the day before and the service was made within a day of having submitted the request. It's very fast. The plumber texted me that he was on his way. I don't remember the name of the plumbing company but they were excellent and I will not hesitate to call them again even if it wasn't covered under warranty. My garbage disposal has excellent after the repair.

We have a plumbing problem that has been going on for months, so we called American Home Shield. The plumber they sent was great and was very good to deal with. His initial solution to the problem didn't work, so he had to come out a second time. However, getting somebody from AHS on the phone takes too long. Also, in the couple of times that I've tried to use them over the years at different places, they don't cover what needs to be fixed, so it's not worth the money.

    Hi Adam,

I am glad we were able to repair the plumbing issue and I most certainly understand your concerns with the delay in service as well as the hold times that you experienced.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was for my bathroom faucet, which they said wasn’t a wear and tear but I didn’t agree with them. It was never fixed, they’re still the same. The other one, which was the most recent was for my microwave that was shorted out. I thought they were going to blame me for that but they fixed it. I’ve had one contractor in the past who refused to answer or acknowledge me. But the two contractors that came the last time were very nice. They were very helpful, answered my questions and respected my home. I commend them for that. Since then, the microwave has been great. On the other hand, their automated system is difficult. If you don’t know how to push all those buttons, you can get confused. I wish they'd make it more people friendly, dumbing it up a bit because it can get frustrating. I’m sure more people will use them instead of trying to call them.

We bought the house and the owners didn’t leave us all the keys so we re-keyed the locks. It was a service I didn’t know American Home Shield provided and it was very nice to have it. I filed a claim online. Their website was really easy and everything worked out as expected. We're happy with the service so far.

Submitting a claim online with AHS is very easy and their site is very user-friendly. I appreciate the simplicity of filing a claim. Plus, the option of them just charging the deductible to the card that's already on file is very helpful. Their rep was very timely and professional. The electrician they sent got our problem fixed and the quality of work was very good. It's a really great service and I'm satisfied.

I had a garbage disposal go bad. I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody up. The contractor knew what he was doing and what to bring, and did it real quick. The garbage disposal couldn't be fixed so it was replaced. I’m completely satisfied with the service that I had on the first thing that I ever called AHS on. It was as I expected. They will either fix something or replace it.

Filing an online claim with AHS is the quicker way and that's what I did when our air conditioner went out. I got an email and a very professional contractor was sent out. My husband said that he knew exactly what he was doing and my husband was really impressed with him. By the way he conducted himself, my husband couldn't tell he was so young. The air conditioner has been working good and we are really satisfied with our experience with AHS.
