I made a phone call to American Home Shield to claim for a replacement of a water heater. They were responsive and they sent very good contractors. I didn’t know I needed to have an inspection and that I had to have a building permit to have the water heater put in. It’s the first time I’ve experienced that but it was fine and I had it done. AHS sent me the information and I called them. Someone came to inspect it and they approved it. It didn't cost me. So, the water heater was installed perfectly because it passed inspection.

American Home Shield calls me within a day after I file a claim online and it's really good. It was easy to file a claim for the pool pump, but there was a problem and AHS called the contractor back. The guy came back and it’s good that he fixed it. In the past, contractors come in, work and leave, but they do it professionally. and that's good. I'd recommend AHS to a friend.

I had an air conditioner issue and submitted the claim online to AHS. The contractor came out, told me what he thought the problem was and fixed it. However, only part of the problem was fixed and the air conditioner broke again. He came back at 9:30 pm to make further repairs without additional charge and fixed the rest of the issue. It’s working excellently since then. AHS is very professional and efficient. They are well worth the money and make timely repairs. When I spoke to their reps they were very polite and got people out to fix the problem. I had a very good experience with them.

I've had American Home Shield since we bought a house in August, so about two months. The first time we ran our dishwasher we saw water on the floor, which was leaking from the dishwasher, so we shut it off and put in a claim for repair. Putting in the claim was really easy. It's downhill from here. AHS sent our service request out to a contractor, but gave them the wrong phone number, so we didn't hear anything for days, until we reached out to the contractor directly.
They sent a technician, who didn't speak any English, so I don't know what was wrong with the dishwasher. He said something about ordering hoses, and that it would be three or four days. This was four days ago. I called the contractor today and got a very rude woman who would not tell me anything at all except to call AHS. She told me she was "not allowed" to tell me anything, which suggests AHS does not have a good relationship with their contractors.
I called AHS on my lunch break and spent an hour on hold (not good hold music, btw) and then had to hang up. I called again as soon as I left work, and am still on hold as I type. I'm up to an hour and twenty-three minutes, so I've devoted nearly an hour and a half to trying to reach these people without ever speaking to a live person. Did I mention I was charged $75 for this experience? This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

The technician just came to put more Freon without checking the leak and charged me $180. After I complained, he took the coil and left. After 10 days, he brought back the same coil saying he fixed it. I have checked with other A/C professions; they said that I need to replace the coil instead of repairing it, so I asked why, they told me AHS only allows repairing but not the replacement. If I want to replace, it will come out my own pocket. In fact, they told me that AHS never replaces the AC unit for the customers.
I then called AHS and asked for diagnosis, but they cannot provide any documents. There was no record at all. After I called at the 4th times (about one month later), they finally told me that the technician repaired the coil and put more Freon... I think they just don't want me to call again. I paid $660 for insurance + $75 service fee + $180 for the Freon. The total is $915, but I have no idea how long the coil is going to last since they only repair instead of replace it. The technician told me "I WILL FIND OUT NEXT YEAR" and smiled...

We had a Samsung Washing machine, just over a year old, cratered, tub bent all 4 sides of the machine and won't run. Took 5 days for the contractor from Sears to show up, he stated it was unrepairable, discussion with AHS they wanted another (second) opinion, first call was 9/22, second finally was 10/5 2 weeks later. Now it has been a month, I have been on hold with this company 3 different times, disconnected 4 times and not resolved as yet. The excuse now is the second contractor hasn't submitted the information, I called and they were resubmitting today. The customer service is BS, they are not reliable or trustworthy...

I have had AHS for 15 years with few claims and no problems. Then 5 weeks ago my dishwasher went out. The repair tech that came out said it was too old to fix and he recommended replacement. Then the circus began. AHS told me I had to schedule with an electrician and then a plumber, instead of 1 installer. Okay, can't see how that would be cost effective but who am I to tell them their business? A company dropped off the new unit but said they do not install.
Talking to electrician who is scheduled to come tomorrow I find that he does not pull out the old unit and install the new one. He simply hooks the wires up, period. The plumber does not install either... So I call AHS yesterday to find out what their plan is for this install. After 1 hour and 8 minutes hold time, I get a rep who first tells me that it was up to me, upon delivery, to call someone for install. Then he said, no that's wrong, can I hold? While on hold the call was dropped at their end. I called the place that arranged delivery and asked them about installing but they said they only install Bosch and Maytag. I have a cheap Hotpoint.
So here I sit, waiting again for an hour+ to talk to someone at AHS, and, by the way, that is the normal wait time for all 6 calls I have made to them over this mess. Maybe AHS used to be the oldest and highest rated home warranty company in the US, but that is certainly changing. I will switch companies after I finally get my dishwasher installed. IF I ever do... I may have to give up and hire someone myself. Maybe that's their new cost saving plan?
June,

In a panic that the heat pump had a problem because a burning smell was coming through the vents, I placed an online service request to American Home Shield. As a first time home owner, I didn't realize that the 'smell' was normal when switching from ac to heat. After several days of phone tag with the contractor I told them the service request can be cancelled. Well to my surprise I was charged the $75 service fee anyway even though no one came to the house to look at the heat pump.
So of course I attempted to contact AHS's customer service only to hear that the wait time would be more than an hour! Really? How can a company justify $75 just for a online request/phone call and have customer service wait time of more than an hour? I don't have the money to waste nor the time. I will continue to pursue a refund of my hard earned money for no service rendered! It's time to write a few letters - BBB, local business bureau, State of Virginia HVAC contractor association, etc.

I started having problems with my air conditioning unit around the end of August. My friend has American Home Shield and they came highly recommended. I was new to AHS and I wanted to have a feel for what it would be like instead of just doing the internet thing, which I would do if I needed to in the future. I wanted my first contact to be someone I can talk to so I filed a claim over the phone. I was on hold for at least 30 minutes, but the reps were pleasant, super nice and helped me as much as they could. They worked my claim fast and showed me the options. I ended up spending a fortune out of pocket, but I had to do what I had to. I had to buy a whole new unit inside and out and spent almost $3,000.
The contractor and the girl in their main office were nice. They have a tracker so I used it as basis to know where their worker was for when I had to leave work to meet the contractor at the house, but it was very inaccurate and didn’t work very well for me. It was saying he’s 50 miles away, and then he called me and said, “I’m at your house”.
When they initially did the work, my house was still really hot. My time slot was between 12:00 and 3:00 o'clock, but at 7:00 o’clock, I was at work and the contractor called and said he's at my house. Another guy was sent who came out two days later. He said the welding was not done good enough the first time and all my Freon leaked out. The company is scheduled to come back out and take care of it.
I have a different type of plan than my friend and I chose to pay a little bit more, but I’m very pleased with their efficiency. I’m happy that I decided to go with American Home Shield. My friend has someone else and they’re trying to get me to do with them. I read up on it, searched a lot, looked online and saw testimonies. My friends have had some experience, so I decided to stay with AHS.

We had hot a water heater go out and a leak in the house that we sold because we'd winterized our house and when we turned on everything we found out that we had some problems with the gaskets failing. We had all of that repaired first. Several weeks later, after we had listed our house, we had a home inspector come through and he identified we had a water leak underneath the bathtub upstairs. Unfortunately, that leaked into the closet downstairs. And then, we had a gas leak with our water heater. It all took place with the same subcontractor they had with the plumbing so that was all taken care of at that same time. AHS came out and the contractor said that it's not worth repairing. We had it replaced and we were very happy with everything.
Submitting a claim was extremely easy. We called them and they told us who we needed to get in contact with as far as the people that they dealt with in Walla Walla. The technician was knowledgeable. He did the evaluation and told the insurance what needed to be done and it was all taken care of and approved. We had a positive experience. Anybody who's considering of buying or selling a house should get the AHS home warranty.

My air-conditioning unit quit cooling so I called American Home Shield. It was an automated call and they told me who was going to call and gave me their number. The first contractor sent was nice and on time but they have the “I'm not getting paid enough to do this so I don't really care" attitude. The people American Home Shield sent out the next time were great. They were better than the ones that used to come and were able to fix the air-conditioner. I've used American Home Shield for almost six years and I’m satisfied with them but the price goes up a little bit each year. It used to be around $40 but now it's almost at $50 a year.

My washing machine had a bearing that burned out so I made a claim online to American Home Shield. I’ve been with them for three years and didn’t have any trouble with them at all. The only issue I had with them is their choice of subcontractors. They probably need to vet their contractors a little better. AHS sent a representative from Sears appliance repair who came out, diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts. We waited a couple of weeks for the parts to come in. Two repairmen showed up to do the actual work but they hadn’t ordered all the parts needed so they ordered the rest of the parts then they left. They came back 10 days later to install the parts.
A few days later, we started having another issue with the washing machine that they had not diagnosed so we asked AHS to send a repairman from a different company, Mr. Appliance. Mr. Appliance sent a repairman out and he diagnosed the problem then ordered the parts. He came back about a week and installed the parts and the washing machine has been working okay ever since. We were without a washing machine since the whole process took two months. I would recommend American Home Shield to a friend because when I called them the second time, they responded right away with another company. The whole thing with the initial repairman not being experienced enough to know what he was doing hasn’t been a pleasant experience.

We submitted a claim over the phone with AHS for the washing machine, then somebody came out the next day and we paid $75. He said he was going to be here between 7:00 and 11:00 that morning. He came at 9:00, then he was in and out. He said that there's a drum in the machine and the motor was all shut out so the machine needed to be replaced. Once that was authorized, it took two weeks to replace the machine which was the biggest problem we had. Other than that, everybody we talked to and dealt with was kind, nice and courteous. Also, the new washer is doing alright. The service at the start and at the end, all of that personal individual stuff were great. The overall experience was fantastic.

I had somebody come over and look at my heater and my air conditioner. Several things were found wrong with the heater and the person that was here talked to American Home Shield and explained what was going on. Then I talked to AHS and they proceeded to say they had to send their own people out. I told them my concern that I didn’t want the heater to break down in the middle of winter and that to get the parts to fix the minimum of the problem with the heater, it was going to be a week or longer. But AHS gave me a number that I called and somebody came over within a few days. Parts were ordered too. The contractor was good and fixed the heater. He said that it has a little more life on it. The heater sounded like a jet plane taking off in my basement before but now, it's much better. The contractor explained everything to me too and I appreciated that.

I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS about my AC. It was a very easy experience and the rep I spoke with was very professional. The technician came out to look at my air conditioning system and he was really nice and professional as well. He went in and checked out the system. He came out and explained to me everything that he had done and what he found. I enjoyed the service and it was an excellent experience.

I bought the house at the end of July and it came with a warranty from American Home Shield. It was a one-year thing with the escrow. When my washing machine stopped working, I hopped on the website then filed a claim. I was impressed because the process was quick. American Home Shield had me pay $80 to have a technician from a third party come check the washing machine out. The technician was awesome. The website showed that we could schedule him for next week, but later that day, he called me and said, "Hey, I'm swinging through. Does right now work?” The washing machine had a major structural failure and the technician confirmed that it was totally ruined then gave me an estimate.
About a week or two later, American Home Shield sent me an email with a link to pick out a new washer. I didn't like any of their models, but I had an option to buy my own and send the receipt. So, I did that and then submitted a copy of my receipt to an email address. However, I haven't had any contact from American Home Shield since. There’s no notification about it on their website either. Still, this company seems good.

I've been with American Home Shield for about 12 years and recently submitted a claim online for my air conditioner’s blower. Though the reps were very pleasant and requesting for someone to come out was easy, it's hard to get in touch with them if I need to call someone back. I’d stay on the line waiting for one hour and then get cut off. Then I'll do half hour. It didn’t use to be that way but that’s what happened recently. I complained, I wrote them, and they responded. I got a call and they told me that if I have that problem again, to get in touch with technical department. They seem to have remediated something because after I complained, things changed. It's a little bit improved.
I've used American Home Shield many times and the technicians were all wonderful. Some try to upsell something, which is just the nature of the business, but they don’t shove it down my throat. American Home Shield has saved my butt on many occasions because over a long period of time, I'm paying a small amount of money in. Then when I need a major repair, someone comes out and I pay a small amount of money. It always worked for me. Anyone like me, with all the appliances and doesn’t have somebody who can repair things easily and doesn’t have a big cash flow, I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

The hot water recirculating pump went bad on my hot water heater a couple of days ago. American Home Shield assigned one company to do the work, but a different company showed up. They said they were a second-tier company. American Plumbing was the company that came over on the repair. They said that they didn't have the part in the truck and they'll go back and order it. But all of a sudden, a change took place. That company didn’t come back and AHS sent another one over, which was Serve Giant.
The guy pulled the pump apart and said that my bearings were bad. He had to get authorization from American Home Shield to get it fixed. So, he went on his truck and called American Home Shield and the next thing I knew, he came in the house and said that AHS denied the claim. I told him to get AHS on the phone. I wanted to talk to them. They called back and the lady said that it wasn't normal usage according to the guy and described that there were rust and sand going through the waterline which ruined the pump. What she could offer was for the repairman to replace it for $750. All those the time I was on the phone with American Home Shield, the guy packed up and left. I went on the internet and looked up the cost of one of these pumps which was only at $250.
So, I asked to speak to her supervisor at American Home Shield. She left for a minute, came back and asked if I'd like a second opinion. I told her that I wanted American Plumbing back here to come in and give me their opinion. So, she’d put a call in for them and they’re supposed to call me and set something up. They haven’t called yet. I was very disappointed with that kind of response.
I’ve been a loyal customer ever since I owned this house for 20.5 years, and I’ve never run into something like this. But I felt it was a little shady when the repairman told her that it was not normal usage. It’s water that comes into the house and it's not like I'm trying to filter up from a sand pit. All water is going to have some sand and it’s going to have some particulates. But when I watched them take the pump apart, it looked okay. The bearings were just frozen up and it was not from abuse.
I’ve been pretty pleased with American Home Shield with how they handled things in the past and had recommended them to many of my friends because it’s a good deal for a home that’s older. But I’m not happy with what’s taken place so far. I want to see how American Plumbing comes in and what they say. And then I’d talk to American Home Shield, supervisory level, and drop them if they’re going to deny this claim because this is ridiculous. But I hope we can get it resolved because I don’t want to change companies.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting the water heater pump repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was fast and I've been satisfied so we keep buying the warranty. When I submit the claim over the phone, they don't answer right away which is typical nowadays. But doing it online, it was easy to navigate. My shower was leaking down into the basement and AHS sent a tech from Stilwell to fix that. He was fast and he also fixed the motor of my dishwasher of which he had to come back after the part came in. Now, both the shower and dishwasher are working well again. I've had Stilwell as a contractor before and they’re always really good and seem to be very professional. Also, AHS reps have been very nice and helpful. I've recommended AHS to other people.

I've been paying on time monthly because it's automatically withdrawn since January 2014 yet they deny my first claim. Nobody comes to fix my electricity. I’m disabled and I want my money back. I thought that American Home Shield was a reputable company until I had a claim. I would never refer anyone to them and I want them to fix this problem. This is ridiculous. I want action.

There was a little piece of hard plastic that had gone down in and the machine ended up switching off for safety. We took the plastic out and it was good to go. The man was very quick and efficient. Our oven quit working completely for a month or so. I submitted a claim with AHS and their process took forever. You can't talk to anybody unless you sit on the phone 45 minutes. But, the rep that handled the business seemed very nice and she took care of us. She was real professional and did a great job. They said they're going to replace our oven and I was very pleased with that. But the contractor couldn't come to service us until he gets five or six people to come to Morgan City because we were not considered local. It's not the man's fault, though, but the company's.
Another issue we had was an electrical problem. I made a claim on it and they said somebody from Vince Electrical was going to get back with me in 24 hours. That was October 4th and we still haven't heard from Vince Electrical. I told AHS that we had an electrician who's local and she said that they're going to get me somebody local who's from Breaux Bridge. But That is two hours away from me. She also said that I'm from a small town. But I grew up in a small town and where I'm living at is not. I also pay the same amount everybody else pays so I should get proper service.
Then, now they're saying that the warranty coverage does not cover electrical, but it's supposed to and I was made to believe that when I signed up. Three people have contacted me just this week about if they should get American Home Shield. I told them they should definitely get something and I told them about the experience I had with them. I also told these people to ask AHS what they don't cover because they could tell you it's all good until you make the claim. We're going to send the paperwork in because if an appliance broke and this is illegal and it catches the house on fire, that should be covered.
Hello Roslyn,
I would like to express my apologies for the issues that you have made us aware of. We will assign a representative to reach out to you as soon as possible to help resolve this matter. Thanks

I have been upset with AHS. I had problems with my washer and paid to have their technician come out. They came three times for the washer. The first time, the guy told me that there was nothing wrong with my washer and that I should take the tray out and empty it out each time. I asked why since I didn't have to do that when I bought the washer and it's not that old. He told me that it's not the machine, it's me. I went along with that, then called AHS again and spoke to somebody. They gave me a free repair, so I had them come out again. This went back and forth until I told them I wanted a second opinion. They gave me another guy who came out and told me that there's nothing wrong with my washer. They're making me think I'm crazy.
This last time, I called and I told them I didn't want the original guy and that I wanted this other company. The guy who came was really nice and he told me that he thinks it's a plumbing problem and that I need to call a plumber and have them come out because my line is blocked. But then before he left, he called his office and his boss told him that I didn't need to get a plumber. He needed to check certain things. He checked it and found out that a part of the washer had gone out. When the part came in, they called me, then they came and they fixed it. Everything was great after that.
I had paid all those times when I called the AHS about the same issue. I mentioned it to them and I was told I won't get a refund because I asked them to check something else. It's very unfair. They're telling me I had to pay these charges. I honestly paid my money each time and they were checking for the same things. Then they said that there was nothing wrong. That it was not the machine, it was me. I had some sheets that were ruined and because they told me it's okay. One guy told me not to use pots since they're not good. I told him I've been using pots and never had a problem.
The people that AHS use are not up to par. They can do some things but they don't take that extra step. We pay every month for the service and then we pay another $75 to get them to come out. That's not cheap and all we want to is to be taken care of. I've been so frustrated and I was thinking that I should just change companies. However, I'm not one to move. I just want to be treated the way I treat them. But, they didn't listen to me when I talked about the contractors. They didn't want to hear what I had to say about him. Plus, getting to the main people that can do something is like getting to the president. I happened to run into a guy who told me that he didn't think I was treated right. He transferred me to this other lady and she authorized their technicians to come out an extra time at no charge to me.

My water heater had a leak, AHS sent out a technician who said that the unit had to be replaced. AHS said it would cover only $1000, the plumber was going to charge me $1700. AHS said I could have another plumber do the service cheaper and that I could file for reimbursement, but that the reimbursement department would have to call me. They never did. I had to keep calling only to find out that I would only be reimbursed $443.63. I asked where are these reimbursement figures so that as an informed consumer, I could make a decision with all my options available. AHS agent stated that they are private. Why hide these reimbursement figures?! I found a plumber that did everything for $950.
This is the second time that I felt like I was scammed by AHS. Two months ago, their AC service company gave me the runaround and tried to cancel on me when I took the day off and wait for them to show up. AHS would not do anything about it and refused to send out another company. AHS said that I would have to wait until the following Monday for my AC unit to be serviced when it was 100 degrees outside. AHS is truly a rip-off. I keep asking to speak to somebody like a supervisor or manager, and the agent tells me that they will call me back, which they definitely do not. Unless you truly enjoy wasting your time, getting frustrated and listening to 30-40 minutes of Muzak, I suggest you stay far away from this company. AHS use to be good and reliable, but cannot be trusted lately.

Can never get customer service unless you're willing to wait on hold for an hour, then every repair I had done took forever to get done. Even common parts that they should have in stock takes 5 to seven business days. Don't waste your money. There are plenty other much better companies available.
Updated on 11/07/2017: After spending numerous hours on phone calls, mainly being on hold for most of it, I decided to do the repair myself. It took the repair company 5 business days to get a very common part, which I found with one phone call and had it in 30 minutes. I cancelled the service call but was still charged the 100.00 fee even though I repaired it myself. American Home Shield refused to refund the fee stating that what I am paying for is the service call for which they did not have the part for. They obviously care more about the 100.00 than having a good customer. I will never use American Home Shield again. This is one horribly bad company. Don't use them. Unless you like spending hours on hold and waiting weeks to get anything done.

I have been trying for 4 months to get my air conditioner fixed. First Vendor was sent out, he was very rude, could barely speak any English and said he would get back to me (which he never did). I contacted AHS and requested a second opinion because I did not trust the first vendor. They said if 2nd vendor took the job, I would owe nothing. But if he did not take the job I would owe $100.00. I was fine with that. Second vendor came out and told AHS he was not going to do the job. I contacted AHS and they tried to get a 3rd vendor to come out, but nothing. Again I contacted AHS and they sent out a 4th vendor who said it was not a really big deal and he didn't understand why I was having such a hard time with getting someone to fix my air conditioner. Again I hear from no one. I finally called vendor #4 today and was told that AHS told him that they gave the job to vendor #1.
I told them from the start that I did not like or trust vendor #1 and would not allow him into my home. Vendor #1 originally said I was going to have to pay out of pocket $1,200.00. When I questioned him about the price, he told me I should take the cash-out from AHS and take my business elsewhere. Why would I ever allow someone like that back into my home. There is much more that I have to say about my treatment with AHS but I don't want to go on and on.
Bottom line is AHS never contacted me once in the four months I have been trying to get my AC fixed. I have called them every single time and have had to wait on hold for a minimum of 45 minutes. They do not care about me as a customer and certainly do not stand behind their word. I have called them at least 10 times in the past 4 months and I can't even talk to a supervisor about my problem. They just say they will check on it and call me back.

I am writing the review in hopes that no one else experiences this. I am A 1 yr customer, used my credit card for payment agreement for one year. My dishwasher went out in August. I made many calls to AHS, only to be on hold for over an hour some days. At the beginning of call they ask for your phone # in case we get cut off, so they could call me back (that never happened). When the company call you for appointment "It's take it or leave it", You'll have to wait another week (no flexibility). It took 4 servicemen to visit my home, couldn't get anywhere with that so I had to get in contact with corporate office. Finally, then they told me they couldn't fix the dishwasher. Offered me a cheap replacement, I was not happy. They said I could upgrade for a 150.00 and 75 dollars for stainless steel.
LONG STORY SHORT, STAY AWAY. Then to add insult to injury, my warranty was going to expire August, they told me I had to be under contract to proceed, then they used my credit card for Sept (the thirteenth month) which I never agreed to. When I noticed a payment had been taken out in Sept. I called and canceled. They not only charged me for Sept. (prorated) and a full payment for Oct., basically I had to pay 180.00 to get out. I AM taking the time to write this so maybe someone else will read this before purchasing warranty. Oh and by the way, I did finally get the reimbursement of 386 dollars finally, even though they got back 180.00. STAY AWAY, RUN.
I understand your concerns with AHS and the replacement of your dishwasher. I will be contacting you in an effort to resolve the situation that occurred.
Thank you,

American Home Shield replaced my bad garbage disposal with a newer unit. I called them up and talked to a representative. It was a quick conversation, it was all set up and I got the confirmation email. Dealing with both the guy who diagnosed the problem and the one who fixed it went well. They showed up on time, were professional and courteous. The garbage disposal is running great.

I had to call AHS to fix my gas stove since one of the burners wasn’t working right. I filed a claim, went online and told them what the problem was. They sent a contractor out in a couple of days and he fixed it in about 30 minutes. He was polite and very good. It was an excellent experience and we were very happy. I've been with AHS for 6 years and I’ll renew the warranty whenever the time comes.

I'm a realtor and I sell American Home Shield warranty, and I use them for myself as well. I've been with them for three years and I've submitted a claim once every year. My recent claim was for my AC. AHS was fine once I talked to the reps, but my only complaint is that I was on hold for 55 minutes. The claim process was great if I filed online, but I needed to speak with a rep when I called that time. Unfortunately, I have to tell my clients that the wait times are long and usually take 30 minutes. Aside from that, however, the reps were excellent when I eventually got to them on the phone. The amount of time from filing the claim up to when a technician actually came out was fine. Also, the technicians that AHS sent out were professional, clean and on time, and I had very good interactions with them, particularly with my second and third claims.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for years, but lately, their service stinks. They also got this system now where you pay before the contractor even shows up. When I called in about my refrigerator's ice machine in August, the reps treated me nicely and it was easy to submit my claim. But the lady that was trying to help me get the service I needed told me that she was going to call this company and she would call me in 24 hours. But she didn’t so after about a week had passed, I ended up calling them again. That’s when they really got on it. Then the contractor took forever to come out. It was hot and I had to go and keep on buying ice.
So back in September, I called AHS and asked them what he was because he hadn't done anything but I've paid my money already. Then two weeks ago, he finally came out and managed to fix my refrigerator. All he needed to do was to place a little old filter on the water line. Another issue was with my dryer. They weren't able to fix it even after coming out four times and I just had to get it replaced. So the service has really gone bad and right now, I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. They’re not as great as they used to be and I feel like they could do better. Also, I have referred two people to them and I don’t know the reason, but they said they dropped AHS.

I've recommended American Home Shield to several people and they have joined because of me. I live in a condo and American Home Shield usually have to come and flush the AC. AHS said that things clogged up because they're all tied to the same line. It’s the third time I’ve had to call them. American Home Shield worked on the AC then it leaked. I saw water spots on my wall so they had to come back out. It was nothing but flushing out the line but the technician said the pipe was broken so he had to put another PVC pipe on it.
I called AHS on the phone and the last time took a long time for me to get through to them. They left me on hold too long without coming back and telling me something which I don’t like. It was days before I got this last issue resolved and I didn't have any air in here. The same guy who came told me he didn’t know why they didn’t send somebody else. I don't know if it's because he was the initial one who came and did it. I was not happy with that part. But the service technicians they sent now were great and fixed the problem.

The washing machine was broken and anything over the phone with American Home Shield is a nightmare. The reps are nice but hold time take an hour and a half to two hours. I had a couple of issues with the installation of the washing machine and I waited on hold for about an hour and 10 minutes. And then, I was in the wrong department and I had to hold again for another hour and 20 minutes. There wasn’t any online solution to the the problem I had.
As far as the guy who did the repair, he was great. They wound up replacing the washing machine and when the new washing machine was to be installed, they wouldn’t touch my dryer to install the washing machine because I have a stackable unit and the washer is on the bottom. They said that wasn’t their job. They put the dispatcher on the phone and she was pretty rude. She was kind of like, “This isn’t my problem to handle.” I told her, “If you wouldn’t do this, why didn’t you just tell me this and explain that you need to get the dryer taken off? Because obviously, I can't pick up a dryer by myself." That was a little frustrating. I understand that it's not covered but I would have liked a heads up to have it taken care of. But other than that, everything was fine.

I've been using American Home Shield for years and I submit my claims over the phone because I want to give more detail. Their reps were very polite and very friendly. But sometimes, it takes longer than others to get things done but if they don't have the answer, they look for it. The only thing I absolutely hate is it takes forever to get through to them and when you're online, it can take almost an hour.
My most recent claim from them was for a refrigerator. The first time that the techs came, I told them what was happening but they said that there wasn't a problem because they couldn't detect it. But, they replaced all the baskets and the refrigerator bins because they were broken and it was under contract. And then, the problem occurred within the month so I contacted American Home Shield again and the techs came back to resolve it while my husband was there. The tech, I don't know if it was the same person, said that there was an ongoing problem and he opened up the back panel, looked at the situation and found the problem. I felt that if a male guy is there versus a female, they're going to pay more attention to the problem because I felt like I was brushed off the first time. Nevertheless, the techs were very nice, very polite and they seemed to be trustworthy.

AHS handled everything well. I got them on two homes and the refrigerator freezer in my Brentway house made a loud noise a few times. I called them and they told me they'll send a service man out. He looked at it and said it would cost extra. It was expensive just to put in the parts that needed to go in it. He called their office and made a report. I got a call from American Home Shield and they told me to not just go with owner buyout. It would pay the difference to buy a new one. They bought me a three-year warranty and put it in. It's running and everything's good. I have filed for the money, but haven't gotten my check yet. And sometimes it's a long wait before being able to talk to a rep. The most recent one, I went online to do most of it and that worked out better. It was faster and easier. I still had to talk to someone but it wasn’t as long as the call that left. So far, they've done everything they said they would do.
Hi, John. I do hope that you have received your check by now. We are doing all that we can to properly staff our call centers in an effort to minimize the hold time. Thank you for remaining a loyal AHS customer.

My dishwasher had a water leak in two and a half months. It is only about five years old and the first time it started leaking, a couple of months ago, a bracket came loose off a hose. There was a lot of water and it partially damaged my kitchen floors. A guy came out and fixed it. He did his job so I can’t complain but he wasn't overly friendly. Two months later it happened again.
We were home and over two hours we had all kinds of water on the floor and it ruined my kitchen floors. The second guy was fine as well and I liked him. He worked through it quicker, solved the problem a bit faster than the first guy. It was unfortunate that the first time it didn’t work. Now I’m going to have the whole house refinished. I called back but they said that a certain number of months has already gone by when the job was done so they’re not accountable if something happens after that finish.
American Home Shield is okay. But I like to call and deal with a person directly when filing a claim so my only complaint is that it’s really hard to get a live voice sometimes and I have to wait. The other night I was on there for 45 minutes and I got pissed and I hung up. The next day when I called I didn’t wait too long. They have a bad customer service system but once you get a hold of them they’re fine. They would set up somebody right away and I hear from whoever was going to come out within a day or two. So overall I’m typically pleased with the service guy that come out to fix our sort of appliances but I’m less than overwhelmed with how long it takes to get a live voice on the phone.

It's a long hold time when I call so I submit my claims at American Home Shield online. But when I call, the reps were very nice. My last claim was for my furnace heater and they said it was not covered. There's been a lot of stuff that they haven't paid for which they should because it's on our policy. The time before that was for my AC, and it's been the third or fourth time that I've had to call them to have someone come out. One time, I did it over the hurricane season. There was no way to get a hold of them to say that the contractor hasn't called us. But the contractors were very polite. Whoever AHS is using for their AC called me back within the hour. I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and they are fine. At the moment I have two accounts. I was a bit worried about my claim for an AC repair. The claim was submitted over the phone and the rep automatically sends an agent. It took a long waiting time wanting to talk to an agent. The first contractor they sent, Total Air Care, came to say that there was a leak in my air conditioner. They put Freon and they go but the AC stops working exactly two weeks after. Total Air Care came and did it four times and every time they say there’s a leak and they fix it temporarily. The AC stops working another two weeks later.
So after my fourth call I told AHS that I am done with Total Air Care since I was expecting AHS would send me the same company. For four months this has been going on. I had guests and it’s heating up at night. It took another three days to get someone to come. I'm thinking I just speak to the manager and they would just resend another company. Then another contractor came yesterday and said, “This should not be like this.” He went outside saying, “All it needs is a part. Why can't they fix it?”
So I’m waiting to see what's going to happen. He said, “Don’t worry. If the other company can't fix it, we will do it." But they need to talk to American Home Shield about the other company why they have been coming here for four times and not fixing it and bringing the whole air conditioning industry a bad name in Orlando. So he put Freon and I told him if this will work for another two weeks but he said, “Definitely, we will fix it before then.”

After submitting a request for service due to my heat pump and furnace not functioning on 10/27/2017, I called today to get an update as the website has not updated from pending assignment. After sitting on hold the first time for 2 hours, the customer services representative put me on hold only to come back on the line and tell me that their computer system has crashed and they will need to call me back in 10 minutes. No call back was received...
Spent over an hour on hold again this afternoon to be told that they cannot find a HVAC company in my area and I will have to do some calling for myself. Not only that, I will have to pay the contractor out of my own pocket up front and wait for a reimbursement from American Home Shield after. I don't understand why I had to pay a upfront fee of $75 dollars to open the service request when I am the one that will have to do everything to find a HVAC contractor to do the repair and pay them for their service to wait who knows how long to be reimbursed by a company that I already paid $75 dollars to send someone out. Not to mention buying this plan in the first place. I wondered how long it would take for them to call me to tell me nobody is coming if I wouldn't have sat on hold for 3+ hours. Not to mention that my home will be without heat for an unknown amount of time. Not a HAPPY CAMPER! I requested and paid for service. Why am I the one doing all the work?

Service generally okay on items that need fixing from individual companies. Customer service reps polite, but AHS take your payment and still keeps billing you over and over. You call four times on one issue. They tell you they have submitted the paperwork to accounting and they rarely do. My fourth call today about the same issue since July and I found out no one except one customer service agent submitted the request form to accounting this entire time. Yet, they are polite and assure you they have and the issue will be resolved. In the meantime, I keep getting email after email demanding the service fee, which was paid three months ago. There can be no level of trust with a company like this.
In addition, the WAIT TIMES ARE UNBEARABLE. One hour and ten minutes on hold on average and usually after holding for one hour, they disconnect the call! When we do actually get through, we expect a level of trust as the reps are the only link we have. But it is hard to trust anyone there as nothing seems to get done. It's all lip service.
It is now THREE months and the issue is still not resolved. Yet, every rep tells me that the form is being submitted to accounting. And, nothing shows on my account that I called four times over this issue. They only show the request as having been submitted ONCE. Imagine that. So, we are being lied to. You can't speak to the owner or manager as they are never available. It is a very poorly run service business, and in my opinion their management is useless. I hear they have changed their system of collecting money after God knows how many complaints. But this is no way to run a service industry and creates nothing but ill-feeling and lack of trust with American Home Shield. Avoid them if you can.

I was selling the home and on the day of the inspection, the pool pump went out. The water wasn't running and it looked a little dryer there so I had to call out and the folks replied right away. That was Tuesday and the gentleman came out on Thursday. The technician and the service were great but if I can complain about anything it would be the timing. I had explained to them that it was the pool pump that went out and although I understand that they also need to do an assessment, the gentleman didn't have the part for it. That was not necessarily their fault though and I'm sure that happens a lot. They've got a lot of customers to take care of and not everyone can be an emergency. Besides, he picked up the part, came out the next day and fixed it. It's working perfect now.
On the previous visit, I had a plumber come out. However, the issue looked like it was existing prior to us purchasing the home but since we were selling it, the new possible homeowners complained about it so we had to get it fixed. It turned out that in the master bath, we had something that looks like a brass plug that was inserted between the hot and cold water. So when you opened either one, it came out very weak like there was not enough pressure coming out. The plumbers tried to unclog it and see if there was a clog in there somewhere but it was coming from the direction of the inward water not the outward water so they couldn't figure it out.
They had to cut a hole in the wall but because that wasn't covered, they asked if I wanted to proceed. I needed to get it fixed so they cut a hole in the wall and then they had to cut the pipe. I was charged $149 for cutting a hole and then another $149 for cutting the pipe. I would've understood one charge for the whole thing but doubling that was a little excessive for five minutes of cutting a hole. Other than that, I was very happy that it got fixed. The technicians were great and they did a great job. Overall, American Home Shield had been attentive and professional. They didn't stop until the problem was solved.

Our house will be 20 years old in December and we’ve been pleased so far with American Home Shield in the number of years that we’ve had them. I got a warranty from AHS because I wanted to be prepared if something broke and I didn't have the money to fix it. Submitting a claim with them was very easy. I just went to the ahs.com website and clicked on whatever needed attention. Then AHS called the contractor and made sure that I was contacted right away, and if I wasn’t and I called AHS and let them know, they got someone else. AHS also gave me the contractor's number and I could get a hold of the contractor if the problem was urgent, and the contractor came. I had to come up with a $75 co-pay for the service, but sometimes that covered whatever was done, so I didn’t gain anything then.
In 2014, the water in our water heater, which was in the garage on a platform, ran out the back, down the wall, and into our family room. I placed a claim with AHS and they paid to replace the water heater. But the contractor who came to fix the water heater caused damage by leaving the water softener on bypass and I didn’t know that until the stains got bad. We ended up having to replace our water softener which wasn’t covered by the warranty and it cost us $1,000, so I will not use that contractor again. One time, I didn’t like a certain contractor and I asked AHS not to call that contractor again, and AHS agreed.
In addition, our microwave broke and AHS replaced it, but I wanted the stainless steel one so I paid the difference. I have a refrigerator and a stove that will be 20 years old in December, but I’m hanging on to these because I don’t know what’s going to happen. I can get stainless steel replacements for these if I want to pay the difference and AHS can get a better price than me because they buy directly from the factory. As far as what they cover, AHS was excellent. But I had to read the contract to see if there were any omissions in the coverage. AHS was prompt and, if I didn’t agree with an opinion, I had the right to a second opinion. On the whole, I've had a very good experience with AHS and I've recommended them to my grandson.

My most recent claim with them was for the air conditioner that wasn’t getting cool. I was amazed and pleased with the process. When I checked off that I needed them, it said that someone would call me within 48 hours. It was a Saturday, but a man from the air-conditioning company called me to arrange an appointment. He was very polite and professional.
The tech who came out was polite as well. He checked the AC and said that the issue was something with the motor and he would have it repaired the next day which he did. It's all cool again and I’m so happy. I have three home warranties with them now, one on my house, one on the house my son lives in in Mississippi, and one of the houses where we’re renovating. I have two listings right now too and they both have home warranties.

My toilet was little coming loose. Two of them were running more than they should. So I looked around, started calling and then the faucet would only turn off in certain positions. This incident happened a couple of months ago. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and it was super easy. The contractor came and fixed everything. Though, one of the faucets still leaks a little bit if it’s not turned off in a certain position. Other than that, the toilet that was starting to come loose is nicely secure now.
I was really impressed how easy the claim was because I used to have a different provider for home warranty. It’s a lot more up with the time because the other place, I always had to call. And another thing, it’s really frustrating because they never seem to be able to get anybody to come on weekend. And my husband and I both work from Monday through Friday, so the fact that AHS have contractors that can come out on the weekends is probably the most impressive.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for about a year and it’s been excellent with them. I submit claims over the phone and they would call me to respond. Then they would come to fix the problem. I had a good experience with the contractors they sent out, too. Everything they did was satisfying from the air conditioner, stove, cooler, to the water heating system. They charge a reasonable rate as well. I paid $75 dollars a month for each account.

I have one pending claim. The service tech who came out didn't call it in, so I talked to him yesterday and I haven't heard back from him. AHS sent me roundabout to several different people. The first girl got frustrated when I asked to talk to somebody and she hung up on me. The other claim prior to this, which is a motor for an electric shutter, was declined because AHS said it was not part of the electrical that I had specified and paid for in my contract. They said it wasn't attached to the house. They do hose bibbs and AC units which are outside of the house. This is attached physically to my house and discussed before I even bought the contract. The rep told me she would pull up the phone conversation when I purchased the contract and would call me back, but it's been a month ago.
The first repairman that AHS sent out didn't know anything about shutters, so he was just a waste of trip and it took me hours on the phone to go over all of this. AHS finally sent out a second service technician, and that's when they decided they were going to decline so I wasn't happy about it. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet. On top of that, I was billed twice the service call fee for the second electrician. I called AHS about it and when you call them, it takes hours before I get a response from anybody. I was told they would take the fee off of the account but I've gotten two more since, and so I called yesterday again. They said it is noted but they aren't sure what happened and why the paperwork didn't go through, and they'll do it again. I work on computers everyday and I know it might take a little while, but it's just ludicrous.
When I bought my home, my realtor bought me a different home warranty contract. It was a big rigmarole so I canceled it and went back to AHS because I had them for 12 or 15 years, and I never had any problems with them in my other house. I just bought this contract and it went in effect in July or August, and I've had nothing but difficulty ever since. When the realtor asked me who I would recommend and who I used, I told her American Home Shield. So she was going to start buying contracts for all of her clients and customers through AHS. At this point, I'm getting ready to call her back and say, "No, you better find somebody else, 'cause I’m not having a good experience." The wait times alone is frustrating.
I'm not renewing with AHS again. I'm frustrated because they don't cover anything and I had to keep making phone calls back to them. They say they're going to call me, but they never do. I have a broken pipe and the plumber cut a hole in my wall, and it's been a week of waiting to see if AHS is going to cover the repairs and the broken pipe. I'm frustrated because I don't even know what's going to happen.
I understand your concerns with the service you experienced to have your air conditioner repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the issues.
Thank you,

I had two claims with American Home Shield and both were on an air-conditioning repair. They send out the first company and it was terrible. It was over five weeks and they couldn’t fix my air-conditioning. I called American Home Shield on numerous occasions and couldn’t get them to change to a new vendor because they said the part had already been ordered.
The technician didn’t know how to do anything but personally he was as nice as he could be and I really think he tried but his company ordered the wrong part and it took almost two weeks to get the right part in. He came back out in time but I think he was desperate to try to get me some air. So he did everything he could and I think in doing so he made some mistakes. It was cooling but inside it was making all kinds of noise. They shouldn’t be a vendor. I don’t even think they should be licensed. They’re absolutely horrible.
So when I did another claim on air-conditioning I told the rep from AHS, “Whatever you do, do not send me this company.” And they did send me somebody else and within 24 hours they were out here. My air-conditioning was repaired perfectly. The technician from the second company was absolutely delightful. He was very personable and knew exactly what he was doing, took a look at the end, worked on for a while and he told me all the things that the other company had done wrong and the air-conditioning worked like a charm ever since.
So I fault American Home Shield because they didn’t help me to get resolution with the company that they sent me that was horrible but I don’t fault American Home Shield for the work that was done. I have had American Home Shield for a long time and for the most part they’ve always been really good but once they call somebody else you’re at their mercy. American Home Shield just doesn’t have the follow-ups.

He checked the unit, showed me what the problem was and fixed it. They got a new one, installed it and then they went away. It was wonderful and I was happy. I've been with American Home Shield for 30 years now and recommend them to other people because I like them.

I had another warranty and it was the same as my sister’s. She had a problem and we found out how bad they were so I switched to American Home Shield. I called them, got a hold of a representative, and talked to her for probably 45 minutes. She answered all my questions and was very positive about how they work. She had American Home Shield herself and that kinda sold me. She was very honest and forthright.
I usually call in for my claim and the phone system works really good. Their reps are all very nice, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. I'm handicapped and I have a disability where I have to stay home all the time and it’s affecting my immune system so heating and air is pretty important to me. There’s been a couple of times I've had to talk to a representative to get an appointment sooner, and they have been extremely responsive. They go above and beyond trying to help. They are courteous and professional, too.
If American Home Shield didn’t contract with South Placer Heating and Air, I would still go to them for service. They’re a smaller company and their guys have been very knowledgeable. I've had maintenance contracts with other people and they send out their people who only find something different. It’d be different if different guys come out and said, “Well, you still have the same problem” but they don’t.
With South Placer Heating and Air, they come out, find the problem, and they all say the same thing. It’s usually the same guy who comes out. Yesterday was the first time that it was a different guy. When told him I had a home warranty, he thought that was a great idea and a good thing to have. All the other guys were like, "Oh, you don’t want them. You da da da da da.” I asked them, “Well, if I have to replace them, you gonna pay for it? Right away they were like, “Well, ah…” It may be a simple thing which was what yesterday turned out to be, but if it was something big, American Home Shield would take care of it. I call them and the contractor comes out, fixes the problem, and we’re good to go. I’m really happy with what I have so far and what I’ve seen. I have recommended American Home Shield.

My husband went to take the shower and the shower just filled up. We called American Home Shield, and when the plumber came out, they took the little cap off the shower and they used the snake. They got on top of the roof and they had to plug in the things that pushed the pressure up. They found out that the problem was a fishnet tank top and somebody that had stayed in here before we did had put it in the shower. I couldn’t believe it, and I took a picture of it with the guy holding it. The shower has been doing fine since the repair but it took us a while to file the claim because we had been calling and trying to find a plumber that covered it. We already paid our insurance through the mortgage and we didn’t want to have to pay from our pocket and then they would reimburse us. If I had to have a plumber here, I would prefer to have the guys sent by AHS because they did an A1 job and we were laughing and joking and having fun.

American Home Shield is an excellent company to have a warranty with and I appreciate their service. I have them for 14 years now. I recently submitted a claim for a condenser problem in the AC unit and their claims process was good. Online is the best way to file claims because if you call, you’ll wait for hours. The contractors who were sent out were helpful and were able to answer any questions I had. They replaced the condenser unit and the air conditioner works excellently since the repair. I also had an issue with the microwave a while back where I had to talk to their reps and the issue was resolved. But sometimes I had to speak to the supervisor because the person I was speaking to couldn’t actually help me. It's a little frustrating but once we get up to the supervisor, it's usually resolved. I would recommend American Home Shield.

And then, I tried with the manufacturer to see if it was covered under warranty, but it wasn’t. So, when I called American Home Shield back, I used the automated system and it was super easy.
The contractor called even though it was his day off because it was a holiday. He scheduled the appointment and was able to work with me to fit me in his schedule. He came out and assessed the washer one night, he figured out what was wrong and put in an order for the part. When the parts came in, he called me and we were able to work something out and squeezed me in so that he could get it fixed. He was willing to come early but I wasn’t home at that time so he went to somebody else’s house first and then came to mine after. He was amazing. So far the machine has been very good without issues. American Home Shield has been easy to deal with. It's easy to make the claim and they're available whenever you need them.

So, I ended up having to call to put in my claim. Waiting on the phone depends on what time of the day you would call. I called first thing in the morning and waited maybe 10 minutes or so. Their representatives were fine. They took my information and texted me the company and the person that was assigned to me. The one they contracted was there about 15 minutes, replaced the belt and was on his way. It has also been economically advantageous for me except for this dryer issue. It's probably $10 for my husband to change that as opposed to paying them $75. But overall, American Home Shield always have reputable people who come and work on my appliances and I've always had pretty good experiences with them.

He took the time to explain how my pool works as well, which I didn’t fully understand but I really appreciated everything he did. I've only had AHS for two months though I’ve had them before. American Home Shield, being the carrier for Oxford Heating & Air, should be informed and I’ve already spoken to the company with regards to that. This is my second issue dealing with AHS where I have had to almost file a lawsuit against them. Same AC unit again!!! On August 4th I called AHS to service my AC unit. Several days later they sent contractor: SUMMER BREEZE HEATING & AIR COND., INC. from Dacula, GA to my home. On the first day they came it was raining so they could not do anything. The second time they came out the contractor pretended that he knew what was wrong, said he was ordering a part and they would call me back to schedule an appointment to fix my unit. After a few days I had to call them back to find out why there was a delay on the part. They schedule my appointment for me. Finally the part comes in and a third appointment is set up.
On the day of the appointment we don't hear anything back from the company. Ten minutes before my appointment is to start I call them and the receptionist tells me that they are still on their way. The contractor who was supposed to come is running behind. Mind you, it is the dead heat of the summer. My house is 110 degrees inside and we have a non-working AC unit with a sick pet and irritable children. By this time, we are almost 8 days in with no working air. Twenty two minutes after the receptionist lied to me and told me they were still coming out, she calls me back and tells me that the contractor she sent out is new and does not think my issue is what he thought it was. In other words, he does not know what the heck is wrong. She wanted me to wait another couple of days later until August 12th for her to send another guy out to our home, supposedly a senior technician.
By this time I am livid! I told them to forget it, cancel my appointment and I will call someone who knows what they are doing. We get someone else out to our house on the same day. They know exactly what the issue is. They pull the part and fix our AC unit for $17 and in under 30 minutes. I call AHS and explain that the receptionist for the company they sent wasn't truthful with me and ask them to refund my service fee. Of course, the horrible customer supervisors tell me that is not happening. I decide to then hang up, call my bank and have the charge to my card reversed. How do you charge my card and you have not even fixed my issue yet? My credit card company reverses the charges.
The following week I call corporate, speak to a nice woman who was going to get everything straightened out, SUPPOSEDLY. Weeks later I see a charge on my account for $125 again. On September 18th to be exact. This prompts me to call AHS corporate office again. This time the woman I spoke with had a bit of an attitude. She tells me the person I spoke with before would have to fix my issue. She tells me she will call me back soon. To this date, I have not heard one peep from the corporate office.
So today I call and leave a voicemail for a Lynn ** who is supposed to be a customer service claims manager. I have not gotten a callback yet. I go on social media, voice my complaint there and tell them I am about to file a suit against them. They respond with a generic answer and ban me from their Facebook page. How convenient to hide the truth!!! I am also told they will contact me back about my issue on Facebook, but how can I believe they will contact me when their track record is so terrible.
Now I am supposed to wait for them to sort through the hundreds of complaints they receive to get assistance. I am so sick of dealing with this company!!! Not only does their customer service agents and supervisors stink, the contractors they hire are untrustworthy and unreliable. They lie, they come in your home and break things and say they are broken already! And now to add insult to injury, the corporate office has now changed their menu so you cannot speak to a human. Supposedly because of all the complaints. This is a cop out! How about you treat your customers better and you won't have so many complaining customers?!! Very disgruntled customer who wants her money back!!!

Filed a claim with American Home Shield. Did not hear from a contractor so attempted to call AHS for verification of the claim. Was on hold for close to an hour that day. Got frustrated and hung up. Called back the next day with the same results. Called again today and have been on hold for 67 minutes. The claim is for a malfunctioning heating system. It has been cold in the house for the past 3 days. Funny how AHS doesn't have a problem taking my money every month and seems to do it right on time. Don't try to file a claim with them though and expect prompt service. If you are in the market for a home warranty company, you can do better than AHS. Oh by the way, I'm still on hold... 72 minutes and counting.

I called them numerous times to ask why taking so long. I always have to be on hold for at least one hour. My smartphone tells the mins your phone call last. And when I tried to get them to fix my central air conditioner the very same thing happened! They came out to fix it 08/25/2015 then 05/27/2016 then 06/01/2016 then 06/12/2016 and it still don't work. They never fixed the problem. All they ever do is charge you for the Freon that leaks out but never fix the leak. I called numerous times about that too but does no good. It is impossible and seems hopeless.
Updated on 11/02/2017: I'm still waiting on my washer machine to be fixed. The guy Tony from Appliance Surgeon, the second opinion that AHS sent to fix it, didn't show up today and when I called and asked him what happened, where was, he apologized and said he would come Saturday. So here I am still without a working washer machine since August. The guy came out the first time for a second opinion as AHS requested Oct 16th from Appliance Surgeons and said he was going to put a new control panel on it. I told him the company Integrity that had come out before him as AHS requested had already put in a new control panel. He stated he did not think they had. And went on to say he was going to order another one and replace it again.
He returned on Oct 30th to work on it and pulled out a long neon orange plastic piece of plastic that he said looked like weed eater string. He showed it to me and asked me "Mama, do you know how this got here?" I replied "No" then I said "What is it?". He said "It looks like weed eater string, how did it get here?" I said "I have no idea, I don't own a weed eater, I hire my yard work done." He pointed to a small round translucent hose in the control panel (washer machine is Whirlpool), and said it was stuck in the hose. So I called Integrity to see if when they had been out previously had they seen it. The tech that had been out previously was Zach, he said yes he had seen it and that it was suppose to be there. Someone does not know what they are doing and I don't know what to do at this point but to reach out to you to help. Remember I've been without a washer since August and it is November.

I have been with AHS for almost 5 years, always had good experiences until the last year or so. It seems as though the contractors that they dispatch find every reason to not come repair the item in need. Call wait times are ridiculous, that was never an issue in the first few years of being a customer. When you have a small child and your furnace isn't working, makes things a little challenging. They should make their loyal customers more of a priority. Hire more customer service agents to take calls and get the repairs done in a timely manner.

I placed two separate service calls for my icemaker and microwave. The initial task of getting the services scheduled was reasonable. However, the experience quickly degraded as it comes to service. It seems the onus is on the customer to keep harassing the service companies to follow up when parts are ordered. I had 2 separate teams come to my home to work on the icemaker, with the first one being ServiceMaster from Sears. Sears came out on 2 separate occasions and failed to get the icemaker to work. Finally, after escalating to the AHS team through my mobile phone – they dispatched A-Tech Appliance Services. I've called AHS on two additional occasions on the icemaker issue and got poor responses each time. Basically, was told the service provider would follow up with me each time.
I never received a call from A-Tech appliances. I contacted A-Tech personally on the 19th and spoke with someone named Debbie who alleged the part was coming in and that she would call back. Today is 10/30 and I have neither received a call nor was the part installed. I left several messages and still no response. I contacted AHS again (3rd time for this part) and was told that I still had to continue to wait for their engineer since the part was not ordered via AHS.
The supplier has 2 options, to order through AHS or order and get reimbursed. Also, I could not escalate to a manager to assist, but was offered a service support desk who would tell me the same. Wait for the A-Tech engineer to call me because they can't move forward. There was absolutely no interest in the customer service representative to push for answers. At least with my initial contact with Fred at AHS, there was an appearance of concern. In fact, when I engaged another rep, she offered to switch me to A-Tech as a solution.
Ultimately, the agent today disconnected my call and yelled 'AHS no response 3x to get the call disconnected. She seem to repeat a script which essentially tells you to just wait and there is nothing you can do. No concern at all about tackling the-loop I am in which is calling for status and being told the engineer will contact you. The original call was on September 4th, 2017.'
My second problem was with the motherboard on the microwave. The good news here is after my escalation to the supplier, he conceded that the part was broken when originally shipped and lost the second time. He agreed they did not communicate well. We agreed on a delivery date of 10/30 and they followed through with the installation giving me a 20 minute notice before arrival.
This lack of follow through with proper expectation setting is frustrating when I am paying for a warranty program. I used to use this service in the past with no issues, but it appears they have degraded over time. At least with my previous warranty program - they provided statuses and held the supplier accountable. The only reason I switched to AHS was because of my experience with my property in St. Paul, MN.
I should be told exactly when the part is ordered, expected delivery date which is follow up with an install date upon receipt. I should not have to keep chasing this down given it's been 2 months since the initial request for repair. This should be on someone's radar! Shady business practices at this organization. Oftentimes, you immediately go into a >60 minutes hold queue to speak with an agent to follow up on existing orders. Conversely, if you want to renew or buy a plan - you can reach someone almost instantly.

After being a faithful fee-paying Member of AHS for many years, they have now demonstrated the unseemly inappropriate conduct which gives rise to so many complaints and may be contributory to the reduced BBB rating of AHS. What follows demonstrates reprehensible performance and customer service similar to that reflected in ** and other areas:
On Friday 27 OCT 17, I placed an online request for emergency service as both toilets in the home suddenly became totally nonfunctional and backing up. AHS issued Dispatch No. ** with one of their vendors. Subsequently the vendor stated they would not be able to address this emergency until at least Monday. I then recontacted AHS by phone, and after an ungodly long wait, finally spoke with Rachel who stated she had had a similar problem and stated she would escalate to locate a AHS plumber vendor who could more timely respond.
When there was no reply, I then later contacted Desmond after another ungodly wait on hold who stated he was continuing to contact their vendors. He then suggested that I contact an outside vendor, and I told him if I found one to cancel the $125.00 service fee as moot. He agreed. Later I contacted AHS service rep Shamika on same date and told them I had Roto-Rooter en route. She then told me for the very first time from AHS that Roto-Rooter was NOT on their approved reimbursement list. What? What a messy and slow operation! Roto-Rooter was already at the door, and I had to turn them away based on this new news. Hours were now fruitlessly spent while AHS made me jump through hoops.
Now it is getting late in the afternoon, and AHS has not rectified my home issue of all toilets backing up. I contacted A-Abel who arrived in the late afternoon. They quickly rectified my issue and charged me $169.00. When getting back with AHS, they stated they were NOT going to reimburse me, as roots were not included as a reimbursable item. Ridiculous as everyone knows, unless you live in the desert, roots can get into your main drain as a matter of course. I consider this clause in their "contract" void and unenforceable as they cover clients in areas they know or should know roots can and do invade.
I then went online the next day and CANCELLED their $125.00 service fee as they did nothing in this arduous process to resolve, nor timely provided even one of their vendors. Clearly on the online form, it stated that canceled service fees would be REFUNDED in 24-48 hours and they cannot deny this fact. Any member or Consumer Affairs can replicate this to find it to be true and factual.
Then to add insult to injury, I found AHS had charged my credit card for $125.00 anyway. Incensed, I was ultimately told on Monday after another long wait on hold by one Tamika at approximately 0905 ET on 30 OCT 17 that they were KEEPING my $125.00 service fee, now calling it a "trade fee" for "authorizing" me to seek my own contractor. The SAME one I had to locate and contact on my own, not AHS. The SAME one I had to pay out of pocket; not AHS. The SAME one AHS found ridiculous reasons not to reimburse me for.
While I was originally willing to just have AHS cancel and refund my $125.00 service fee that they did nothing to earn pursuant to their own website's notification, I am now going to seek the $169.00 paid out of pocket that they found vague and unenforceable excuses not to reimburse. This inappropriate and reprehensible conduct of AHS has sickened me to my stomach, and I am now currently reviewing other Home Warranty companies who will not treat their longstanding Clients with such obtuse and recalcitrant disregard. No courtesy from AHS, even under these circumstances.

AHS' customer service was excellent. However, they didn't cover what we thought they might cover when we had an emergency. The water main in our house broke, as well as the water main going out underneath the house out to the street. We filed a claim over the phone and everybody was very nice, but my husband was on hold for nearly an hour. The contractor who came was also very nice. He did a temporary fix because they have to rip everything out. He did a very good job. It's not leaking in the house now and we have water. We have people coming to excavate and do all the plumbing on the outside then come underneath a driveway and foundation of the house and through the foundation. We're just not planning to do anything since they won't cover it. And we would not be able to continue with AHS' insurance now that we're going to have a substantial loan to do all this other work.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a commode that was running at odd times, and the process was incredibly easy. When I called, the representative looked at my account number and filed the claim. The contractor that they sent out was also the one on at least one other call that I had. They have really stepped up their game. They were not my favorite vendor before but they were nice. American Home Shield responded promptly via text. And then, I got a call promptly from the vendor. They scheduled an appointment at a time that was convenient for me. I called in the claim on a Friday, and they came on Monday.
The guy who did the work was very professional. He, unfortunately, missed one little step but it didn’t cause any problems. The same old thing kept happening, but I called back to American Home Shield and they immediately rescheduled with the vendor. The vendor sent another guy back on Wednesday. And he was there for five minutes and fixed the problem. American Home Shield should keep doing whatever it is that they’re doing right because this is probably the best and fastest service I’ve ever had.

Our pool pump went dead so I called American Home Shield on a Sunday. They said someone would get in touch with me right away and the next morning, the people who were going to fix it called me. They said that I didn’t have to be there when they fixed it because they already took care of the fee. They also ordered the part and the rep said that it might take him a couple of days to get it, and I said it’s fine. But he called me that day and said he got the part and he would come back the next day. So, they came while I wasn’t there, fixed it and it was excellent. Overall, it was a simple and easy process.

I called and American Home Shield put out the orders to get people in contact with me. My pool filter went out and it was taken care of by one company. My small refrigerator also went out. The wait time to get a rep was ridiculous and I was on hold one time for 45 minutes. I never did get a representative. But it seems to have gotten better in the last couple of weeks that I’ve called. Moreover, there was some issue as to whether or not the refrigerator was covered, and I felt it was. They went to a supervisor and said, “Oh, yeah. It’s covered.” But I had to go through some issues with that.
I had some issues with the repairs because the contractor took the refrigerator and ordered parts. I asked the technician when he was going to get back to me but he wouldn’t commit to a date. I called American Home Shield and asked them to call him and put a little pressure on him. It seemed to help because it was excessive that the technician had the refrigerator for six weeks. I was asked to respond as to the unmet refrigerator service and told them that the technician did a good job but it took too long. It was my secondary refrigerator, it wasn’t that big a deal, but had it been my main refrigerator, it would have been a big deal. Other than the wait times, American Home Shield has been fine.

But she didn't understand what carriage lights were so when the technician came out to assess the problem, he explained everything to me nicely and told me that he's sorry but they don't cover carriage lights on the outside. He was very professional and respectful. Then I had the follow up service and everything was good. I'm pleased with the service and I'd refer other people to American Home Shield.

So, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it was easy for me to do it online.
One of the representatives called me to see if they had those lines rerouted but then told me that they were not responsible for it after all. She told me that it was not under their policy and would have to be an out of pocket expense. I also submitted a claim to my homeowners’ association in Starkville and they said that it’s a maintenance problem that American Home Shield should cover. They really need to improve because what’s the sense of paying $600 a year when you couldn’t even get that help when you need it. You might as well not depend on them, save your $600 and just pay for everything that comes up. They were doing really great but I was very dissatisfied with the way they handled this situation.

She had trouble with locating a local company, so she said she would get back to me, which she did promptly. She told me that they were sending someone out, and who it would be. They're all very nice.
The contractor had to order a part, but the man stayed until he figured out what was wrong because everything looked like it was running right. He's very thorough, he checked the settings on the thermostat and everything. He also contacted his office when he himself had questions and spoke with the people there who had more experience. It was a small valve that goes out in the system, but it's not evident, so all the pressure from the Freon and everything was good, but the cooling wasn't getting from the coils to the rooms. So, I really respected him because he stayed with it. They received the part much sooner than I thought they would. They received it in three to four days, and were back out here. They were all very polite and professional, both from the American Home Shield side and on the contractor's side.

We were having electrical problems in our house and we've had the electric company come out a couple of times and check it but they were saying it wasn't on their end so we called American Home Shield. The people that they said were going to come out usually send a text message saying they would contact us within 24 hours to make an appointment but it took them four days. They finally called but I wasn't able to get the phone so they left a message. I called them back that same evening but the receptionist said that the lady who was handling that was busy. She asked for my number and I gave it to her but I didn't hear from them for two days until I called them back again and I finally got it scheduled.
When the guy came out, I was actually at the bank but my wife was there and she deals with vendors all the time but he was rude to her and she was taken aback by it. He said our home warranty company was not going to cover it and she said, "Well, we'll see what they do. We just really need to diagnose this problem." He called me afterward and said the problem could be my panels and that my home warranty company may cover one of them, maybe two, but not all three. I told him that was fine and then he asked if I wanted to have the electric company install something that monitors the power coming in for a little bit.
I asked him if that was his personal number so I could call him and let him know when they could come out and install it. But he was like, "Yeah, but don't be calling me up like 4:00 o'clock in the morning or 8:00 o'clock at night. That's a good way of getting me all mad." Then he started bragging about how he was the only one in the company who does panels 'cause he has the same license as the owner of the company and he's the best at it. At that point, I was like, "What is this guy doing?" I wanted my problem fixed. If I have to pay some money, that's fine. I have this home warranty company that covers electrical and we've been having these problems. I wanted to try to use it and get these problems resolved.
He didn't make repairs though and I had Duke Energy come out and install that thing actually. Once I heard back from them, I was going to call the company back but American Home Shield said since that contractor started it, they have to finish it. But I told her that the company had been a bad experience from the get-go. I get that I paid $75 when they had contractors come out and that it comes down to money but when someone's really not happy with the service that they're receiving from the company, there should be other options for them if the company's not really caring too much. There's obviously been a couple little hiccups but every time I've dealt with them, it's been totally fine and they've answered any question I've had when I've had to call them. We've had a few issues with American Home Shield but luckily they've all been fixed before they've had to do anything and I would still recommend them.

It would have been helpful if they said, "Hey, call us back in a few hours, there might be somebody available." But they sent somebody out the next day and the technician was fine. My wife was mad though because if we didn't call back, they probably wouldn't call back until the next day. The times we’ve had AHS before went fine but right now, AHS keeps sending a bill for the service fee that we paid the guy the same day. We were with American Home Shield for quite a few years. Then I discontinued the service for a while and went with another company, then I came back to AHS a little over a year ago. When I left AHS, it was mainly because of the wait time to get through to people there. Also, AHS kept sending out the Sears technicians to do the repair work and I had a hard time getting AHS not to send them out. AHS did not take my word for it that they were imbeciles.
The Sears technicians had been out here three different times and they were inefficient. They cancelled one appointment and set up another one for five days later. When a Sears tech came out initially, the refrigerator was cooling but the freezer wasn't working. The tech put some dye in the ref to see where the leak was and then the ref stopped working altogether. This technician had come out a year ago to replace the ice maker in my kitchen refrigerator and he forgot to put the little shield over the spout where the water goes into the ice tray. So, ice blocks were forming because water was getting down into the bin where the ice was dropping into and my husband had to take the bin out every couple of days to chunk it out. Then another technician put the shield on and he said that the other refrigerator needed a compressor, but he failed to order it. This second technician was from Sears, too, so I was not happy at all with Sears.
Recently, I filed a claim for refrigerator repairs and the reps were fine when I finally got through to them, but I waited for an hour and a half before I could talk to a live person. AHS sent out another contractor at my request because they couldn't get Sears out here for over two weeks. The other contractor came out and he was able to diagnose the problem. The refrigerator had leaked the Freon on the inside of the cabinet, so it was not repairable. AHS is going to provide $888 towards a replacement ref and I'm going to see if I can locate one for that amount. In the end, we're going to be okay, but the claim had been ongoing from August 8 when I first called to submit the claim up to October 12 when AHS agreed to replace the ref. So, it took some time to get the claim resolved and time is important.

The contractor came out and cleared the clog but I noticed that it still drained very slowly. We called to schedule their return and it turned into a bit of a nightmare when they came back. They were supposed to notify us 30 minutes in advance before they would show up but instead we had about a 10-minute notice. The tech came to the house and son answered the door. The tech asked for my wife but she wasn't there and he said, "Okay, they're going to have to call us." My father got there right as the technician was backing out of the driveway so he was able to stop the tech. The technician told my father that he went in and flipped the the garbage disposal switch and that we have to call the electrician.
The garbage disposal was never the issue plus the man never came in the house. He lied all the way around. I called the company and told them they needed to send the tech out back and that the garbage disposal had nothing to do with the the kitchen sink draining slowly. I went back and forth with them for about two hours and ended up leaving work to go home and take care of it. I finally got another woman on the phone and she sent somebody totally different out. He came out, re-ran the line and the sink drained. We hear gurgling in the pipes now which we never heard before but the sink drains. I submitted a work request online that said went through and apparently didn't. I called later the morning and got a ticket made from the call. The company they assigned us was closed at the time my ticket was opened and wouldn't be in till Monday. I called to have our ticket reallocated to another vendor and was told by Raven out of Georgia, that my situation didn't meet their criteria for escalation. The www.weather.com shows current temp outside as 59 degrees and the low's tonight will be 36 degrees. My house is 66 degrees at the moment.
Raven said she could put in for a call back (which takes 48 hours) - that makes no sense because we can't stay in this house tonight - or tomorrow night, and Monday a technician will be out. They say our situation doesn't warrant an escalation. I have no heater and the temperatures will be freezing tonight. I can do without an AC in heat, but not without a heater in cold. My child is too young to wrap in blankets. This is absolutely unacceptable. This is not the way to do business. Completely horrible that this company would refuse to transfer me to a manager, refuse to escalate, or do anything other than offer a 48 hour call back which puts us into a business day! I have AHS for several months now. I've had their warranty before, then it lapsed and I just resumed service. I got a plumbing problem that started a couple of weeks ago and it got progressively worse. So I made the call and submitted the claim online. I requested service and almost immediately I got some kind of reply back. Then a service appointment was scheduled in less than 24 hours. The contractor who came out was professional and their reps came at the time that they said they would. Then they did the job, cleaned up after themselves and left. They cleared the drain and stopped the leak. So, they did what I needed them to do.

I've had a leak in the garage coming from underneath the hot water heater closet. The leak was not a fast leak, but it was consistent and persistent. Sometimes it would dry up for about a day, and then sometimes it would not dry up for several days. When I explained that to American Home Shield, they said that if it's coming from underneath the hot water heater they should send out a plumber. The plumber came out and his assessment, which didn't take long, was that the hot water heater was leaking. I asked him to show me how he could see that and he said that there's a gap on the hot water heater floor.
Where the heater actually sat, he said that there was dampness there. He wanted to drill and dig that floor out and put in a new floor. And then he said that the pressure of the heater is going to make it worse. He allowed me to touch and feel it, but there was no give-way there and it was not soft. Also, I'm a heavy lady, almost 200 pounds, so I told him we don't need to go to that extent. I said that we can reinforce the floor if he wants to buy and put in a layer of Hardie board, which he agreed on. I had to have it tiled and I had some big, 15’ x 15’ sheets of porcelain tiles. I allowed him to put them underneath the heater and he was okay with that. He proceeded, gave us an estimate of $900 for the installation, and part of that included a $200 permit for an undeveloped permit for the inspection of his installation. We settled, gave that to him and went away.
It was the middle of August when he installed that heater but the leak never stopped. My husband and I were too busy at work to spend a whole lot of time with it. I kept calling the plumber back, even leaving voice messages and text messages, but there was no response. I told my husband that the plumber didn't say that there was going to be an inspection, so someone has to be getting in touch with us. I started calling and trying to get the inspection myself. But when I got to the people that do the inspection, they told me that they cannot come until the permit has been filed or pulled. He also said that there was no permit that has been pulled for any work at our house.
I asked for some instructions on how to proceed with the leak issue. They said to call our plumber back and tell him he needs to process that. I asked how much time do we give the plumber to allow him to do that. They said that it doesn't take long and that the plumber should be familiar with the process, which is usually within 24 hours. They should have the permit before they do the work, but sometimes, it's 24 to 48 hours after. So, I told them that it's been a couple of weeks, but I'll reach out to him. I started calling the plumber about the permit deal. I was initially calling him back about the leak still leaking, but no response. Then I started calling him back about the permits and still no response.
So now, I called AHS again and I told them water is still leaking. They sent out another plumber because the initial plumber was not available and not responding. The plumbers that came out to the house were not in a truck of any professional marking at all. My husband told me that there were two guys driving down toward the house, and asked me if I’m expecting anybody. I told him not today but tomorrow. They were not in uniform and so I just had to believe that they were who they said they were.
I didn't let them in the house. Instead, I let them in through the garage. One plumber says that my AC condensation to the pipes is clogged. My condensation is pooling in the pan and the pan is running over and this is why I see some days that it's dry and some days that it's not. Some days, you get more water than others. However, he's a plumber and I needed an AC person. They agreed with their assessment, which was a good thing. But they were having a personal test about something. They were having a conflict to the point of calling each other names.
A few days go by, I finally called American Home Shield out. They sent out another contractor for the AC and sure enough, that cool expert was the contractor. Automatically, he went right to the problem and he removed some doors off of the AC so he could look deep. He pulled out his flashlight, and he showed me the problem. True enough, it was the condensation tubing or pipes. He also showed me where the water was pooling underneath the floor, which is the reason why it was leaking out into the garage.
The AC unit is a great structure. I'm glad it wasn't leaking in the house then there would be more damage. Water has been leaking for about three months now and I'm surprised the house didn't start sinking. He was able to vacuum that water out and clean the tubing. Before he left, he actually poured water in the condensation pipes and he showed me that it was coming out in the proper place, which is on the outside of the house. He charged us $100 for that, which I would have paid that initially.
Now, I have a new hot water heater. It's just that the installation has not yet been inspected and I'm nervous about that. I wanted the installation inspected so I called the development company again, the man that oversees the installation and he still has not pulled the permit. So, they gave me some information on how I can find out if his contractor’s license is valid or not. I asked the rep at AHS if the contractor that they sent to my house has a valid license and they said that the last time they checked, he had a valid license. I told them that I did not want to be charged another service fee for this contractor.
So far, the service that I'm getting from American Home Shield is dwindling. It was not near what it used to be. I've had them for 20 years. They used to be a part of my mortgage. So, when I pay my mortgage, my mortgage company automatically paid American Home Shield. It was totally invaluable to me unless I need it. It's just now that I've been in my house for 20 years that there has been something going wrong.
I would not recommend AHS to others since they're not checking their contractors and that's a problem. Another thing is that every time I've called, my wait time has been over an hour. I get a warning that my wait time could be over 30 minutes or over 45 minutes. So, what I do is I put my phone in my pocket, walk around with it, put it on mute, and have my conversations while I'm at work or after I get a hold of them. Also, through landline, I put it on speaker phone and do what I need to do. My husband and I were thinking to go to another home warranty company where I may not have to worry about the contractor.
I'm beginning to wonder if I want to take the money that they're taking from my account every month and give it to another company. I would like AHS to take the ownership of having that contractor, pull that permit so that I can have that installation inspection. But they've clearly said to me that they're not responsible for the permits and all that. That's a crossroad since they should be responsible for that or have some type of enforcement. The pride in terms of services that they once had to offer is no longer there.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting the leak repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

We had a whole system backup at the trap and American Home Shield was able to send somebody out. The guy fixed the plumbing and everything worked. He was professional. It happened on a Friday night and I submitted the claim via the web portal. But the only way I was able to make it an urgent ticket was I had to call and sit on hold for about a half hour. The rep was good though. He immediately knew that we were in an emergent situation and made sure he could get in touch with the plumbing company that was supposed to be coming out and also made sure they had somebody scheduled out. After making sure the claim was in correctly, everything went smoothly.

I’ve had American Home Shield for a very long time and I’m happy with their services. Every once in a while, I’ll get a service provider and they’re not in the control of AHS. I had an issue with my freezer when water from somewhere leaked into it and it started creating a big ice block in the bottom. I filed a claim online and it was very easy. However, the tech couldn’t fix the freezer the first time out. They diagnosed it and said that they'd come back but they didn’t. I needed to hunt them down to come back and it was frustrating. But I got it fixed and it’s finally done. For the most part, the people that AHS sends over are top notch. They fix what they say they're going to fix, and they're kind and courteous. I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend and I’ll continue to use them.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my AC and they had someone come out last July or August to look at it. I came home from work and the AC was broken in my upstairs unit. They fixed it quickly though. I also submitted a claim for a washer machine the other day. This is the first time I've had that issue and they have to go look at that next week. The contractors they've sent have all been very professional and good. They explained what they're going to do and I've never had a situation where somebody was not qualified. It's been a good experience. They communicate well and send you emails. When you file the claim, there's usually an email sent to you right away. Plus, my issue gets resolved quickly each time. I will renew when my contract ends in April. It's certainly worth the money, especially on an older house.

We had a sink that kept backing up and the toilet kept running so they're both plumbing but they're two different areas of the house and when I went online to submit the claim, that wasn't one of the options. We need to be able to select multiple issues so American Home Shield needs to fix that. I was afraid to submit another claim and then get charged the second time so I ended up doing over the phone and with that, there's a real long wait always. Then if I forget something and have to call back, I can forget it. The rep was very nice but American Home Shield definitely needs more people answering.

AHS couldn't help with my AC's issue. The company they sent couldn't find the cause why my AC's Freon disappeared and their suggestion was to put in $1,000 worth of Freon. I refused since I didn't know if it's going to stay in there. I decided to go ahead and change the unit out. We've been dealing with the problem for a long time. Plus, I was supposed to get a phone call back from a manager, because I wanted to have a pressure test done, but never heard back from anybody.
Finally, I got this nice guy and he set up to get the pressure test done. I didn't like the people who came out and I wouldn't use them. They weren't really interested in trying to find where the answer is. They said that someone stole my Freon. At the end of the day, that's what their diagnosis was. Luckily, I had a friend who has an AC company. I had him come and he said, "We're not seeing where this is coming from." So I'm just not going to put a lot of more money into the AC unit, with it being so old. I paid $800 for a service that didn't help me. I won't be using American Home Shield again after this year.
I would like to speak with you and help resolve the experience you recently encountered to have your AC system repaired.

My air conditioner went out for the fourth time. It happened on a Friday. We called Saturday and the reps were nice and concerned. The contractor got out there Monday and he was professional and prompt. He was very considerate, too. The problem was something simple and it was an easy fix, but I didn't think it was. He flipped the switches, the amps, the switchboard, the thingamajigy. I had already done that, but I guess I did it wrong or maybe missed one. My only complaint is they don’t work on weekends, but AHS provides excellent service.

My water heater stopped working. The pilot light would not stay lit and could only get it on for just a couple of moments. It shut everything down for a day and a half. I can't shower, can't clean, and can't do everything. I tried to do submit a claim online and had great difficulty. It didn't take me to the right area. I then submitted a claim over the phone to American Home Shield. Good thing I was able to talk to the claims reps. They were friendly, attentive and not assuming. They also sent a contractor who was amazing. His name was Josh and he was up to code. Since the repair, my water heater has been working wonderfully.
However, before that, I've had other contractors from American Home Shield and I found them absolutely horrible. The one for my refrigerator was very rude to me and my daughter but was kind to my son. He had to come out four times and we've lost hundreds of dollars of stuff because it wasn't keeping it cold. But overall, AHS has been helpful, consistent and easy to deal with. I had American Home Shield before when I had purchased another home. So whenever I was asked who I wanted to go through, I automatically chose them just because of the quality of the people they send out is typically very good.

I noticed that the hot water heater had slowly stopped putting out hot water and it was getting annoying taking cold showers. American Home Shield was provided when I purchased my home and I’m glad to know that. When I first called, it took an exorbitant amount of time to actually get on the line with a representative. Getting a hold of a representative sometimes at peak hours is not ideal.
The gentleman that I dealt with was extremely professional. He asked questions that really went beyond the scope of his job and at the time he was actually training somebody but he was able to answer all of my questions and complete the tasks within the minimum amount of time. The contractor was really knowledgeable and it seems like they knew the task at hand. They found out what needed to be done and they were in and out very quickly. It’s a great company and after this whole experience, it really made me think whether I wanted to continue with them. I’m probably gonna continue on with them for homeowner’s insurance.

I had to wait too long on the phone but she called to see how I was and I didn’t even want to complain until she had somebody at my house. She told me to call a certain number and so that worked out fine. I've had American Home Shield for a long time and I've been very happy with it. When I first submitted the claim online with American Home Shield, I never got a notification that the contracting company wasn’t going to do the work because they didn’t service the brand of appliance we have. I logged in and saw that the claim had been canceled. I resubmitted the claim and American Home Shield sent it back to the same company again, so I called them. The rep looked at the claim and said, “It says they serviced that here.” I said, “If you look at the previous claim I opened, the notes in there say that they don’t service that brand of equipment.” She looked and then told me, “You’re right! I’ll see if I can find somebody else.” AHS finally dispatched it to somebody else.
I was contacted within 48 hours and we set up the service call. It got submitted back to American Home Shield for approval. It took about six weeks before somebody came out for service, which I was a little disappointed with. Also, although this is not American Home Shield’s fault, it took more than a month for the part to come in. But once Appliance Wizard, the company that came out, did the service, it was great. The problem has been resolved and I'm happy.

I was with American Home Shield a couple of years ago, then we had to cancel. I then decided to reinstall again. So far, American Home Shield is okay but I have an oven that has ongoing problems and a cooktop that doesn't work well. First, they said that they’re going to replace it then they decided they take the parts. They said it’s going to take six weeks to be fixed so I don’t have an oven for the past six weeks. Since last week they’re saying the part is coming. I talked with the contractors and they were nice but it’s very hard to get in touch with them. They’re supposed to come today but they called and they said they cannot come due to an emergency. They were supposed to replace those two but they're still not working well. Right now I can turn them on somehow but I when they come back I hope they bring the oven and the cooktop because it’s the holidays now.
Furthermore, the customer service is very difficult to get through. There were a couple of times when I called and I was just on hold for more than one hour. That needs to be improved. Every time I called I was told something else about the oven. First, they said, "We’re going to replace your oven so call back on Monday because we are waiting for the contractors to see how much they’re going to charge us to put in the new oven for you." So I called on Monday and then they said, “No, who said that? No, we are going to fix your oven. You’re attached to your Thermador.” When did I say that? I was willing to change it especially for the holidays. And then the lady said, “No, I’m not listening to that. I’m from that department. I’m just filling in for customer service today. There’s no such a thing. We’re not going to replace it.”
The computer wasn’t working well and now I understand that they’ll refurbish it. It’s going to take another six months to get down again. I’m surprised that American Home Shield made a decision like that. Nevertheless, AHS is good. I had so many problems and they really did the job very well but I’m hoping that I still get the problem with the oven solved soon.

I've only used American Home Shield twice since I've been enrolled with them and the first job was done well but a few months later it's not working. I had an electrician here at the beginning of the year and he replaced a part. It’s the holidays and we’d like to put some decorations outside but the outlet still doesn’t work. And then recently I called American Home Shield to file a claim and the call was short and easy. I told them what I needed done. The shower was leaking badly to the point that we weren’t using it for a while because when my granddaughter takes a shower, she takes two hours so, it was dripping water all the way down to the kitchen. When the plumber came in, he found the problem and told us how to fix it. He did not fix it at all, we did.
My husband called me at work because the plumber told him what to do and he asked him to buy the caulking to put on the pipe and a spray because he didn’t carry any of that stuff in his truck. My husband was disappointed and since he is 59 years old he couldn’t do it. We had to get one of my children to come and do it for us. So I paid $50 somewhat a month and then I pay somebody to come and fix something for me and charged me $100 and doesn’t do the work. We were not satisfied with that at all.

I needed a water heater replaced recently and the interaction with the contractor was fine. But we did extensive work, beyond what we anticipated. I hope it was done well since it was also replacing the unit, bringing things up to code and filing permits to do so. I would expect that they did all of that. One of the reoccurring problems that I have with AHS is that they don’t route the service request to providers that actually do the work. The last two times, I had to call them on more than two occasions to resend the request. There should be an opportunity to set up more criteria in their system so that they don’t have that happening. They should also have better clarity on the front end so that a customer does not need to call multiple times and then be put on hold for an extensive period of time. But other than that, all the people that I've been on the phone with were extremely courteous and tried to do their best. Overall, AHS is relatively good.

American Home Shield replaced the evaporator on my air-conditioning unit. Over the last three years, their contractors came out four times and added Freon to my air-conditioning unit. They did it at the beginning of the season, at the end of season, and at the beginning of next season, it was out again. And they never checked the evaporator. They had rerouted my drain so the water came out on the side of the house because the pan on the evaporator has rusted out and was leaking on to the drip pan below it. One of the guys last year made the pipe go back the drain of the house to circumvent the rusted out evaporator but didn't replace it. Nobody ever checked if the evaporator was leaking Freon. Because they kept on replacing a little valve or didn't find any leak. They just said that the Freon is low but they're talking about three or four pounds low on a unit. I got to pay an extra $100 because it’s my Freon.
The guy from Greenway told me that I needed a whole unit and that I was wasting my time spending money on more Freon each time. Then he tried to sell one for $6,000 and told me that he'd finance it for $150 a month. I told him that the reason why I got Home Shield was so I don't have to pay $6,000. But then it came down to $4,000 and told me that I should cancel American Home Shield and just pay $100 a month for an air-conditioner finance. I said, "I'm not going to finance my air-conditioner." Then the Greenway salesperson was absurd and finally came back in and said that they have a new unit out for $2,500. But I insisted for them to replace the evaporator and that Home Shield is going to pay them for it. My payment was taken out of my mortgage payment for the last 15 years. And then last year, Wells Fargo stopped taking the payment out so I just went direct.
I paid $675 back in May and now I spend another $1,000 because I had $700 worth of Freon that I had to put back in the evaporator. They should have fixed it right the first time because it doesn't just rust out. Now, it's routed right in the drain and everything is. The air-conditioner would work when they fixed it, but it kept on leaking out Freon. It's working now, but we'll see if it holds Freon 'till next season.
I've had AHS for 16 years in this same house and everything has been done by Greenway. They were trying to sell me a new air-conditioning unit and telling me I didn't need to be spending my money on American Home Shield. AHS should refund me my money from my last repair and shoul fix the unit permanently instead of putting a little band aid on each little part.

I have had a few experiences with AHS. The hold times for this company are just ridiculous. The rep has no authority to do anything. I have a contractor that is supposed to fix my boiler. They never showed for the appointment after confirming with the office staff that morning for an 8 am to 12 pm. They never showed and when I called back the lady thought she talked to me 5 minutes prior. I called and had to get a supervisor to request another company because the rep is not allowed to do so. The case was switched to another contractor at that point.
The next day the original contractor called to address a new ticket. It was another gentlemen who had no idea about the appointment Monday. He was kind enough to tell me how to reset the boiler and it worked for a few ignitions. I then called and cancelled the call. A few days later the boiler will not stay lit. I went into AHS to start a new ticket but the original is still open and the original contractor is not returning my calls or texts. American Home Shield definitely sent competent folks out to do the repairs. In the year that I've been with them, I've had two contractors come out and they both repaired what we needed to be repaired. The last time I filed a claim, I had some things that weren't working and I called AHS, and the contractor came out within a reasonable amount of time to check on the issues but they had to come back. But the contractor was a different company this time and they said that I had used them before. The other contractor seemed to be a little slow in calling the consumer once AHS gave them the referral. I had to call this contractor myself because it had been several days since I submitted the claim and they said, "Oh, it was in our inbox," and I didn't know if they hadn't checked their inbox or they didn't care. It was five days before they were able to come out.
But it was with AHS and not with the contractors that I had a problem. Whenever I called AHS, I was on hold for at least 40 minutes every time. As far as getting in touch with AHS, I tried something. I called AHS and pressed the number to file a claim, and it took 40 minutes before I could talk to a rep. But when I called back and pressed the button to open a new account, the rep answered the phone right away. I said, "So, you guys really care about opening new accounts. But when someone's calling with a claim, we have to be inconvenienced for 40 minutes." This was ridiculous and it definitely made me not want to have a warranty with them. I hated calling AHS since they were very slow in picking up my call and I'm already shopping for another warranty provider.
I would like to apologize for the hold time of over 40 minutes that you have experienced. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.
Thank you,

Lately, I had claims with AHS concerning the air conditioner and dishwasher at our house. They had to come out a couple of times for the air conditioner. Initially, they thought it was fixed, and it did seem fixed, but it wasn’t. Then they tried really hard and finally got it fixed. For the dishwasher; the people from Sears had to order a part and the part came so they are coming back out here next week.
When filing claims, it's very hard to speak with someone from AHS. They also try to just assign you to someone and I’ve been assigned contractors that I really don’t like and don't fix things. These contractors just try to sell me something. Even when I file a claim online, I couldn’t request what company I wanted. I could, if they accepted American Home Shield and if I go through all that, but AHS should have more people responding to the calls. Also, some of the contractors that come out only tell you that your appliance couldn't be fixed, has to be replaced and they don’t want to put anything through American Home Shield.
So I had to be on hold for a very long time, about an hour, in order to talk to someone at AHS and get a contractor that I wanted and that I knew would usually fix the problem the first time. The contractors that I picked were very professional and I have no complaints. You have to have a lot of determination and persistence to make it work with AHS. It isn’t the easiest thing in the world to deal with them, but it can work.

I submitted a claim for my air conditioner online because I couldn't get anybody from American Home Shield on the phone. They kept telling me I didn’t have an account. My daughter-in-law did it online and it was fine. The contractors called us right away and they came out. The air conditioner works now and I've been very satisfied.

American Home Shield has always been cooperative with everything and their reps have always been polite and prompt. When we called in our problems, they would either give the name of a contractor or they would send the job out to the contractor. If I didn't hear from the contractor, I contacted them and we usually get the service within two days. After the hurricane, we couldn't get through so we submitted a claim online. My husband got it right away and didn't seem to have any problem with the website. Recently, we had AHS replace our worn out garage door opener and they did that promptly. Then our AC went out and was also replaced. The repair people who came out did all in a professional way. We've been with AHS for quite a while and we've been very pleased with them.

The AHS reps are very professional and very polite. I first submitted a claim three weeks ago when we had a water leak in the house and they gave me who's going to come out and the subcontractor was very prompt. I appreciate what they did. During the repair they set up and took care of the house in a way that I didn't expect and they were very quick. The company that they gave me was Paul Davis Restoration. I would highly recommend that company to anybody. They are very expedient, courteous, very professional, answered our questions and took care of our problems.

My refrigerator was not working and it took me hours and hours to stay on hold when submitting a claim through phone with American Home Shield. But when I went through the mobile app, I was able to open up the ticket fairly quickly. The only drawback was that I have to pay upfront for the deductible. Luckily, something happened and I didn't need that service anymore. I was able to get through when I called them back and they were able to cancel the service call and would refund my money. They initially sent me an email that a charge was taken, but I haven't received an email about the refund taking place. Other than that, the experience was pretty easy.
When something was clogged up in the outside fan of my AC, the contractor that American Home Shield sent out was very professional. He came at the time he was expected and did what he was supposed to do. He also left his number. AHS is a reputable little company and their business model is pretty good. They did a good job with me and I would recommend them.

My air conditioner stopped working and filing a claim for it with was very quick. AHS sent contractors who were outstanding. They knew exactly what was wrong in the beginning and fixed it right away. It only took about 30 minutes and they took off. I had to pay the maintenance but it wasn't a major problem. I've had AHS for a month and so far, they seem to be doing what they said they're going to do and I appreciate that. It's been a good experience.

The sink in my bathroom wasn't draining and AHS couldn’t fix it. The tech said they tried to clear out the drain line and they couldn’t do it. The guy told me the snake wasn’t long enough. In the meantime, American Home Shield had called me saying this isn’t part of the contract and it is my responsibility to get this fixed myself and that they would not be able to come out to do anything to drain the line.
AHS sent out Lone Star and they said it would be $450 for them to do it. I said okay and we discussed this with my husband and see what he wants to do. I got it done for $100 from another plumber and he is a certified plumber. He was here in 10 minutes and he did the job. We needed a really long snake and he cleared the whole thing. They sent me a letter and the rep from AHS told me on the phone that it wasn’t from American Home Shield and that was not part of my contract to get the drain line cleared, it was my responsibility to find somebody to do it other than Lone Star.
Another thing was with a guy that AHS sent came to fix my washing machine. The motor had gone, so he goes out to his truck. Everything was taken apart. It was all over near my kitchen. Then he goes out to get the part anyway and realizes that the part is not the part that he needed so of course, he can’t come back. He then comes back the next day to me. They should ask you what type of the washer or dryer you have, what’s the model number, et cetera, so that they can bring the right parts and this time, they didn’t.
Before, we used to pay the contractor when they came out. One time, it went up to $81.65 so I called AHS and they said that’s an increase and that’s tax. I said, “What are you talking about tax? We don’t pay tax. It’s the flat fee of $75.” I went back and forth with them and they did nothing. The next time I had somebody out, it was $75 again. Also, when you try to get on to American Home Shield, it takes an hour and a half to get through and they put you on hold. One day, it took two hours to get hold of them, so it’s very frustrating with them and I have a lot of friends who complain about the service.
I'm also not a fan of having to pay before the service is done. I said there’s a website you have to go to and you can put in your credit card or pay after the service, which I’ve chosen pay after the service many times and that’s where I have to go through the regular number and wait an hour and 30 minutes to two hours waiting for them to approve me and say, “Well, yeah. We’re going to take your credit card anyway and we won’t charge your credit card until the job is done.” But, what if I don’t like the job? They’re still going to charge my credit card. I preferred the system where you write the check when the guy comes out and then that’s it.
They've also seemed to use the same contractors and I’ve had some come out. I’ve complained to them about it and I said do not send me these contractors again. It’s like they’re on a training mission and they’re not really qualified. They go up and down the stairs and it takes them forever to do stuff and I have to clean up after them. I’m not happy with American Home Shield. They need to up their game and they need to get companies that are reliable and companies that are efficient and professional.

We had a problem with one of our AC units. I called AHS and I told the girl that we had some people that were going to be staying upstairs and it was so hot there. So, they worked as fast as they could for us, which was nice. I had nothing but fine experiences every time I've spoken to them. On the other hand, we had several people come out to fix the AC. It was a long ordeal, but it ended up getting resolved.
The first person that was sent out said that it was electrical. He wasn’t authorized to open up the panel, so he said that he was confident that it was the breaker or that we needed to get a new switch. Then when the electrical guy came out, he tested it with a machine that tests it and he said it's 100% fine. It's an actual problem with the AC then he came back again and told us that the breaker kept tripping. He was very nice. For about a month, every time we went upstairs, it would just trip. We made sure that the breaker wasn’t tripped then it started to get so bad and it was tripping all the time.
We called him back again and it ended up being the condenser having the problem. We had some guests that were coming to stay upstairs so it was frustrating at the beginning. Everyone kept saying it wasn’t their deal but ultimately, everybody worked fast for us. My husband had to stay home for a couple of hours from work on the day that they came to fix it. Also, it was expensive and hopefully, it will last. Other than that, we had an issue with the garbage disposal and it was resolved, too. AHS has been great.

At first he tried to salvage the parts that were in there already and then let me know that he couldn’t, so he replaced the garbage disposal for me. He showed me the old part and also showed me that everything was working and running before he left. He was done within a couple of hours. It was a quick and easy experience. American Home Shield's customer service was great, especially considering how quickly they contacted me. We already have some other things lined up that we’re gonna call them for pretty soon.

I sell AHS to sellers and buyers since I'm a real estate agent. It's a benefit that I offer to them. I also have AHS for my home. I've had a policy with them for two years now. I live in a nine-year-old home and my AC went out recently. Unfortunately, it happened on a weekend, a Saturday, but I made the claim online and I was fine. I could tolerate it 'till Monday. The response time was very quick. They gave me the name of the contractor that I would hear from. I had somebody come here on Monday and it was repaired swiftly. I was very happy with the contractor that came.
We have an AHS representative in our office, David. I called him to make sure he knew about my claim since they said they were going to respond in 24 hours. But the 24 hours brought it still to the weekend, being on a Sunday. I called him to ask a question and he answered right away. He offered to purchase an air conditioning unit for me or pay for a hotel if I needed it but I said that it was unnecessary and I appreciated it. He goes over and above his job to take care of the agents that sign their clients up for these benefits and he does a great job. The technician was great. He explained everything and what he discovered. He made the repair, came in and explained a little more about what he had done. He was clean as he made sure he took his shoes off before he walked in my house. I was very pleased with the contractor. My experience with AHS overall was exceptional.

I've been with American Home Shield for two months. Recently, the drainage line was clogged. Submitting a claim with AHS online was fast and easy. The website was good and if I went through it, the claim process was smooth, straightforward and fast, and the issues were settled very easily. But if I had to call AHS, the wait times were crazy. I've waited from 30 to 40 minutes and got no response, so I was frustrated if I had any questions and called in. I got bounced around from one rep to another. The reps were courteous and tried to help, but they didn’t have the knowledge nor the authority to do anything, and the issues didn’t get solved.
On the other hand, the contractors were good in general and my interactions with them were good. But I had specifically told one of the contractors that I had to work with for my air conditioning to call me before coming in since I wasn't home then, but they didn’t call. They came and left without letting me know, so I had to reschedule the service appointment and that was frustrating. Also, the service people that came initially didn’t seem competent enough since they were making excuses one way or the other. Then AHS sent out a different contractor that was able to fix the problem the first time they came and the drainage line works fine now since the repair. But right now, I wouldn't recommend AHS to others since calling in to them wasn't very easy.
I understand your concerns with your most recent experience in getting the stoppage repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and help resolve all of the issues you have encountered.

Again I call them and they told me that the previous person did not do it properly and again for the 2nd time I updated it after waiting on the phone for 50 minutes. So on October 24th I am getting another email that my payment was rejected and I call them again after waiting for them for 50 minutes on the phone, so the customer service rep tells me that the other person forgot to click on the ok option.
I was like furious and told them whose was to be blamed and she said that it not her fault the other person did not do it properly. So I told her that I need to talk the supervisor at this point as this is totally unprofessional and worst customer service I have seen. She said she is going to transfer and then disconnected the phone. At this point I am not sure what to do since they are not willing to help and passing on the blame to the other customer rep. I am not sure if that is what American Home Shield trained them to do as this is the worst customer service I have ever seen in my life. They have absolute no regards for the customer's time. After 2 visits and multiples new parts, they could not get my heater to work. The second company has been requesting AHS replace the heater. As of 10/25/2017 AHS will not authorize replacement after 2 repair companies could not fix the heater, multiple new parts installed, and 5 months since I first requested service. They want to send the same repair person out to troubleshoot the heater again. Do they think he can perform magic after spending hours on two previous calls, installing multiple new parts, and informing AHS he is not able to repair the heater?
I would like to tell you how difficult it is talk with AHS customer service. The wait times are extremely long and they are limited in their ability to help. I called customer service representative Devon on 10/12 to report the problems I was having with AHS in getting my heater fixed or replaced. He was pleasant but kept telling me to be patient and he would notify contract relations of my problem. I asked to speak with a supervisor but none were available. He assured I would get a call within 48 hours from a supervisor or contract relations. It has been two weeks and no calls have come from AHS supervisor or contract relation.
It is almost winter and some days it's 60 degrees in my house. AHS does not seem to care about their customers and the hardship they created by not fulfilling their agreement. They have caused me hours of frustration and the heating company advising them the heater needs to replaced not troubleshooting it again that will only prolong the inevitable. I feel 5 months of trying to fix a heater is long enough. It needs to be replaced.

I went to their website and submitted a claim for our water heater. It was easy and within an hour to two, I received a text message that the vendor had been identified and will be contacting me within 24 hours. However, I wasn’t happy that at one point I had to call in twice because I was given numbers to contact a vendor which AHS should be able to do. When the rep hung up, I had to get right back and be on hold an hour or so trying to get in. We tried to reschedule with the original vendor, ran into a lot of back and forth trying to get back on a schedule, and it became very difficult.
I followed up with AHS and their queue was very bad on a Friday. I was on hold for a long time. American Home Shield needs to improve on their staffing to minimize the call wait time. The gal I was able to speak to was able to quickly identify a back-up vendor though. They were supposed to arrive on a Saturday, but they arrived that Friday evening to restore service. They brought back the hot water and I was very pleased.

Also, when you call, their system doesn't give you many alternatives as compared when you're talking to a person. However, getting a person to talk to is terrible. But once I got a live person, my experience was good. American Home Shield should hire a few more people to talk on the phone. We submitted it online, received a call within 12 to 24 hours, then had something scheduled for the next day. The contractors they sent did an initial scheduling call, a quick visit to fix the pipe and a follow-up call the next day to make sure everything went well. They managed to fix the leak and that's all that mattered to us.
We've had AHS for about four years now and we've had several claims for older things that really don't have any business being fixed. But that's the only thing American Home Shield will do, that is, to fix rather than replace an appliance, as long as it could still be fixed. We have to make the decision to actually go ahead and replace it because it's the right decision to make. Then American Home Shield will only cover whatever the cost of the repair would have been, like a couple of hundred dollars instead of the whole $5000 that it cost to replace the busted things in the house. It's frustrating but it's the way the business works. Other than that, we're satisfied with the four years we've been with them.

The husband explained what he was doing, answered my questions and did everything. I really appreciated that because I'm one of those people who will stand there and ask questions. I thought my unit has cratered and he told me too, at first. But he explained that if he could get it working and do what he thought would be a good job to where it would continue working, because some of the older machines are better with some other parts, it would probably keep working longer than a new one. And he worked on it and got it to break loose. The washing machine is now running really smoothly.

So, I called American Home Shield and said that it wasn’t working efficiently, and that I thought that there was something wrong with it. AHS called the company, who came out pretty fast. They looked at it and said that there was indeed a problem with the fan in the motor. That was the reason why it was making all that noise. and it needed to be replaced. He said that they’ll do it for me, and asked me to turn it off because if I kept running it, the pieces that are working well could be damaged.
Another guy came back in about four days and had the part and replaced. It ran and it sounded great and it's very efficient. Before we sold the house. We ran it and it cooled really well. So, they did the job. The technicians were very respectful and good company. However, it took them about five days. American Home Shield Home Warranty, DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! It’s a SCAM. I’ve been a customer for 4 years with no claims. On Sept 20th I filed a claim because my refrigerator was not cooling or freezing. Standard is they hire someone to come out and service. That contractor has 24 hours to contact you and set the appointment. Contractor’s first availability was the following week, diagnosed it and they needed to order a part. The following week’s scheduled appointment deemed the part defective, and had to reorder. I asked THEN for a 2nd opinion and AHS said it would be out of pocket. The following week the part came in and once again had to get on schedule for repair. That part also didn't work and after 3 hours of further diagnosis AHS now wants a 2nd opinion. This is after 3 individuals have been to my home and diagnosed the problem, and said refrigerator needed to be replaced.
In the background over the past 5 weeks (now starting my 6th), I have been trying to communicate with AHS. They have a 1.5 hr hold time PER call and PER person you need to speak to. So, if you need customer service and they need to transfer you expect a 3-4 hour call minimum. DO NOT ask for a supervisor, you’ll be told they are unavailable and will called back in 72 hours, and that call never comes. DO NOT request them to listen to the recorded calls to support your inquiries, they won’t. I have been told they are “a service repair company” not an insurance. There is nothing they can do to expedite service calls.
Customer service conveniently disconnects with request for a supervisor. Promised my deductible would be waived but still charged my CC. Escalations promised I qualified for cash in lieu only to have another rep tell me that person didn't have the authority to do such. Customer service Supervisor told me fridge could be replaced only to be told a week later that the supervisor didn't know what she was saying. Consistently being told promises, making me believe they are helping me to only document untrue statements to CYA of the extreme opposite in their notes.
I have taken 3 days off of work to accommodate their repair people. I have been eating out for the past 6 weeks. By now I could have bought a new fridge and be money ahead! Instead, I’m still waiting…on endless hold...for no answers. The WORST customer service. They make it as difficult as possible to get the coverage you've paid for and will not put the customer first.

2.5 weeks ago, I put in a claim needing my washer fixed and my dishwasher fixed. After waiting 1.5 weeks for parts for the appliances it was determined my washer was not able to be fixed. They "fixed" the dishwasher and they would call me in 1 business day to get my washer replaced. This was Friday, October 20th. Well today is Wednesday, October 25th. I still haven't gotten a call from AHS, I spent an hour on hold to speak to a representative, who then put me on hold while he made phone calls. At about 1.5 hours on hold, I was disconnected. It's been 2 hours now, no callback from this person working on my file. So now I have been hold for another 45 minutes to speak to someone about when I will get my washer replaced.
Now my dishwasher. I told them it was working. The person they sent out said it was fixed and turned it on. Well it turns on, great, it did that before too. But the problem of the water not draining when you finish a load is still there. Since the guy replaced the motherboard and didn't report the issue of the water not draining. I have to pay another $100 fee to have it fixed. This is ridiculous. They are quick to sign you up and take your money but the customer service sucks. It is always an hour plus wait to talk to someone and God forbid you get disconnected they never call you back. And even when they schedule appointments to call you back... THEY NEVER DO. This is a ** company and I regret ever doing business with them. STAY AWAY.

Our microwave and refrigerator broke, and we are up to three weeks with no repairs because there is no one to service our area. On October 8, 2017, we called American Home Shield (AHS) to report our broken microwave and place a repair request. On October 12, 2017, we called American Home Shield again to report our broken refrigerator and have it serviced under the purchased warranty. My husband and I have called the company multiple times between the 12th and today, the 25th of October. We have been told multiple times there are no vendors to service our area, but we can call a vendor ourselves with an outside authorization number. So, we tried that. When we called all appliance repair companies within a 40 mile radius, they all said they will not work with AHS and cannot help us. We've called AHS back to inform them that no vendor in our area wishes to do business with them and therefore will not help us.
The AHS operator and "Service Specialist" again told us today what we have been told each time we called, as I described to you above. They told us the only thing they can do is keep our repair need open and wait for a vendor to pick it up. Despite explaining to AHS that this is an unreasonable and absurd amount of time to wait when we purchased a warranty that guaranteed service in our area, and it is not our job to do their work. We have made very reasonable attempts to look for vendors ourselves as instructed by AHS, however, we continue to be told they are unable to help us and there isn't nothing we can do but pay for the repairs ourselves. We have been living out of ice chests since this happened, and there's is no end in sight. Living without the microwave is inconvenient, but not a crisis. It appears that we were sold a warranty without good faith in mind from AHS, and appears to me that we purchased a fraudulent warranty.

My range hood stopped working 2 weeks back. I filed a complaint. The first contractor they assigned me didn't call or pick up my call. A week later I called again. I was waiting on phone for 1 hr before someone picked my call. They assigned me new contractor. Thankfully new contractor called me next day. When I told him the fan in range hood is not working. He told me he cannot fix that. Now I am again trying to call AHS and again I have been waiting for someone to pick my call. Why are they assigning contractor who is either not picking or cannot fix the appliance I have been calling to fix?

Currently, I have a home warranty contract with American Home Shield (AHS). The contract is identified as a "3X3 Combo" meaning it covers my appliances, plumbing, electrical issues, etc. AHS was notified by one of their plumbing contractors that my water heater needed to be replaced - that was back on 10.13.17. I was told that they would cover the cost of the water heater but not the "modification" cost that the plumber would charge. The plumber (Grade 'A' Plumbing) wanted to charge me $400.00 for "modifications". As a result, I asked for AHS to send me check, which is my option as a customer. Per AHS, the "cash out" option is suppose to consider the cost of the water heater and labor. On 10.18.17, AHS told me they would send me a check for $403.91 after I submit an invoice for the replacement of the water heater.
Section 'A' of my contract glowing list everything covered. However, Section 'I' talks about these "modification" cost that are the responsibility of the customer. I take responsibility for not adhering to the "buyer beware" rule. But, I don't think any customer should: 1.) Be kept on hold for an hour, yes, I am not kidding. 2.) Be told different things by representatives of the company. 3.) Have to present an invoice when they opt out of using AHS services to repair an item because of additional inflated cost demanded from an AHS contractor. And, what is the purpose of submitting an invoice when AHS derives at a predetermined amount they will pay anyway? 4.) Not be permitted to speak with a managers or supervisors, no matter how many times requested.
5.) Be told that a "cash out" offer will cover the cost to replace an item as well as the cost of labor to replace that item; 40 Gal water heaters on average start at $439.00 and good one starts at $600.00. Even receiving a contractors discount the amount AHS wants to send me in 4-6 weeks, that's right, I was told after complaining about the need to submit an invoice to prove repairs were made, that I would be extended and I quote, "a one-time courtesy" of having the check sent to me between 10.26.17 and 11.15.17.
On top of that at the onset of this entire painful experience with AHS, an AHS customer service representative told me that back in March 2017, my water heater was replaced by the same plumbing company AND I received a "cash out" payment. WHAT? The notes in the system are always wrong, the communication is poor and, this is only my opinion based on my experience with AHS, this company works like an insurance company. When you submit and claim and they have to replace an item they increase your premium payments. Buyers Beware?

Our air conditioner wasn’t working. We had attributed it to the fact that we had a huge oak tree fall on our house. We thought that it was because the AC was trying to air condition our attic from all the holes we have. It turned out that it was an easier issue. The contractor came and figured out that a rodent got into the outside of the AC, and he was able to fix that pretty quickly. Everything was good with American Home Shield. They were able to help out with the issue right away. It was an easy, quick, turnaround kind of experience.

I called in April to have a water tank checked since it was leaking. It was replaced it and the manufacturer of the tank took responsibility for it. But last month, the tank started leaking and flooded the first floor of the townhouse the day before closing. Trying to get anybody on the phone is a nightmare as the wait time was over an hour. So, the only way to submit a claim was online and their website was pretty basic. All I needed to do was log in and then tell them what the problem was. Then they have sent the same people for plumbing and they had been very great so I've had no problems with them.
One of the things I don't like was the emails and text messages generated were not matching. For instance, with the plumbing issue, we asked them to check the water pressure and do some of the repairs on the house. I got emails and text messages that American Home Shield got so-and-so and had been scheduled to come out at this time. But nobody contacted me to see if I'm going to be available for it. Previously, I would get an automatic response saying that I put in the claim and this is the company that's been assigned to and then the company would call to say that they can come on this day. Then lately, I've had to call the company to know if they are coming. They've either gotten the claim and they've not scheduled it yet or they have it scheduled and nobody notified me. Their communication has gotten worse. Overall, American Home Shield's process sucks but they're beneficial to have.

American Home Shield came with the new house and I’ve been with them since July of this year. When I called them about my pool pump, the representative was non-existent. I tried to call them and couldn’t get through on the telephone. When I did it online, the response time was as predicted. The repair company contacted me within 24 hours and set up an appointment. It was all within the guidelines. I filed an extension of the same claim because it turned out the work wasn’t completely done. They didn’t quite understand the scope of the work that needed to be done so, we worked that out.
The technicians were excellent and very professional. I was impressed with the speed and quality of their service. They were very efficient and I’m glad I had the policy to replace the pump since it was very cost-effective. I’m very pleased with AHS and the online experience was seamless. But I was concerned with the fact that I haven’t been able to speak to an actual human.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for about 20 years. The house we purchased had the plan on it so we continued it. Waiting to speak with their rep doesn't take long and when we called because the air conditioner was not working properly, that required just one visit from their contractor. We called AHS on the weekend so it was Monday before we got anybody out. There was also one time though when we had someone come out and the contractor didn't do what he said he was going to do and he was out in this truck calling. We weren’t happy with that so we called AHS and they immediately sent somebody else out. They've been worth every dime we paid.

The previous owners had American Home Shield and they told us that they liked it and explained to us what it was, so we continued with them and it's been over 16 years that we've been with them. However, it has changed since then. When my microwave broke down, they had to get it fixed. We called them about three times in one year to get it fixed and they wanted to fix it again, so we told them that it’s costing us more to get the microwave repaired than have it replaced. We kept paying $75.
Before, when a unit has been repaired and then it was not fixed, they would replace it and we would just pay $75. Now, they don’t replace the unit and they would give you less or what it’s going to cost to get it fixed and then you pay the rest. That’s not right since we’re paying for something that they told us before and then it changed. Although they’ve sent us in the mail what the changes have been, it’s just a lot. With the number of years we’ve been with them multiplied by how many issues we had and how many things they have replaced, I don’t think we have gotten our money’s worth.
Nevertheless, I would still recommend American Home Shield. They are efficient and I pay $75 for something that might cost us $300 to get fixed which is still a good deal. It’s been a great experience as well. We filed a few claims last month wherein the most recent one was the leaking dishwasher. My husband called and he had to wait on the line. It’s usually too long. But the techs who came were quick and efficient. They fixed the dishwasher the same day and we haven’t had any issues since then.

I'm very thankful that we had purchased the warranty from American Home Shield. Six weeks after we moved into our new home, the dishwasher stopped working. It was getting power but the start button was not working. I filed an online claim with American Home Shield for my dishwasher. I was able to do it from my phone. I had my account number so it was easy to just click and submit a claim.
Somebody called me to set up an appointment right away, even though it was a busy time after the hurricane. The appointment was set a week and a half later, which was fine and doable. The appliance tech called me first to find out what exactly was the problem so that he could diagnose it. He was able to bring the part needed to replace the panel. He came in, removed the panel and put the new one in. He was here for 20 minutes and it was an easy process. There're a lot of people who have had nightmares and problems with their home warranties so I was worried. However, I had a quick and easy time.

A gentleman from Aqua Pools in Florida replaced the pump motor for the pool because the pool was covered. He said the pump was an upgrade so I had to pay 300 bucks out of my pocket. I called American Home Shield because I liked to know what it costs but they refused to tell me because that was between them and the contractor.
Then something happened to the filter where the water goes through. It was leaking and there was a pinhole in the tub. The same people came out again and said that they needed to replace it. They also said it's made in Australia and they'll order it and ship it right away within the next day or so. And they did. But they additionally charged me $190 for the plumbing. Now, it didn't take a plumber. All that took was a guy who put the filter in to cut some pipes and glue them together. So, that worked again. But that was a bad omen there for me to have to pay. Also, when I called them, it took forever for somebody to answer. That's very irritating to call and wait on the line for an hour. That's inexcusable to me. They weren't responsive in the manner which I thought they should have been. And a couple of people I spoke to were rude, so they're done in December. I'm going to Select Home Warranty.

My air conditioning went out and very simply, I filed the claim online. Because I work, I really like the fact that I can go online and then they would call me back to ask what days were available and the contractor would come out. It’s convenient. We have an older home and our air conditioning is on top of the house and I didn't go up there with them 'cause I figured everything was okay. But it still wasn't working. Josh came back and he was totally honest. He was training another guy and the trainee fixed the wrong air conditioner. He apologized and he did whatever he could even though he didn’t have the part that he needed. He pushed the part in for our breaker because that was what it ended up to be in the breaker ‘cause it was making a circuit blow. He had put the lowest wattage he had and said he would be back in a couple of days once he had the part.
He also saw that I had children and since we live in Vegas and it was the peak of the summer, it was really hot. He could've lied or said anything crazy but instead, he even went further as to give me his personal number and ask me to call him immediately if an even worse issue occurs that night or if the breaker breaks. I really appreciated that and everything is working now.
I also had some issues previously but the plumber came out again and they cleared that up. Then this time with the air conditioning, I was wondering if this was what American Home Shield was known for. But I'm paying for the service and as long as my issue is resolved, I’m cool. At one point, my garbage disposal kept going out and my husband said he would go YouTube stuff and try to fix it but I said we have American Home Shield and he should just use it. The guy came out and he felt nothing was wrong with it but then it went out the next week. I kept the receipt and I called back. He came back and brought me a new one, no questions asked. I am overall satisfied and I have recommended them.

I did a claim online and American Home Shield's website was easy to navigate. The contractor sent who I've also had before was very good. They had to order the parts and because AHS didn't allow them to purchase parts elsewhere, it put me out of my refrigerator for an additional period of time that I didn’t need to. The part was available through a vendor that was in Jacksonville but because of the price difference, those are things that AHS wouldn’t have covered, so that’s the bad thing about it.

It is very intuitive being able to go log in to the website and pay the $75 deductible fee. A lot of times it’s not fun having to call an 800 number, talking to someone and having to be on hold so it was nice to be able to do that online. AHS and the electrician reached out to me directly so it was very easy on my part. It was quick and painless too. The gentleman who came was very punctual and informative about the process. I’m not happy with American Home Shield because they refuse to pay anything. I had claims for my washing machine and AC. Submitting claims is easier to do online but sometimes I had to do it over the phone and make follow-up calls where I’m placed on hold for a long time. The last time was an hour. And also when I get a hold of somebody they go down a list of what they pay and what they don’t pay. They tell me what they find and that’s it.
The washing machine was messed up after we moved here and it took almost three weeks before we got it fixed. It had two service visits where three different men came out. It took an hour and a half to fix it but it would have been less than $400 to replace it because it’s just an old GE top motor. So it’s just been really frustrating. If I had a different warranty place to go to I might go with them. It was unfair for them to say in trying to sell this product, “We will repair or replace.” I learned from the first set of contractors for the washing machine that if they don’t make any money off American Home Shield, any home warranty works. They stretch it out to get the most money they can and that’s what the three people and the extra time was all about.
We lost power for 12 hours during the hurricane. I cut the power off to everything because I was told to. Then in the final day when power was hooked back in the area we heard what sounded like gunshots and I cut the power off again and put it back on and everything seemed to be working fine. Several days later the compressor blew up and lost all the Freon. The technician came out the next morning and he just said that it was a power surge and if he fixed it it would be $15,000. So then I was making calls to try to get it expedited and I was told that since it was a power surge they wouldn’t pay anything.
I guess the technician didn’t want to do that work so he blamed it totally on the power surge. And then they told me I would have to pay another $75 for a second opinion and if they decided it was a power surge then they wouldn’t pay still and I would be out $150 dollars then. Also my friend had his guy come and he said “With the compressor blown up, you can’t say it was a power surge.”

Every time I've called American Home Shield (including a call at 12:00 AM because I had a pipe spraying water everywhere in the basement), I have had to wait on hold for at least 45 minutes (at 12 AM, it was a full hour). Although you can submit a request for service online, there is absolutely no mechanism by which to contact them about that service except for the phone. There is a chat line, in theory, but it's never available. Most recently, our water heater has stopped working and there is no hot water in our home. The company that was contracted to come out originally told us they'd be able to provide service today. Then I got a call just an hour or two later saying there was an emergency and now they can't come until 2 days from now, making a total of 3 days without hot water.
I called American Home Shield and waited on hold for 50 minutes, only to be told that another company couldn't be assigned because the original company had 48 hours to come out. Ok, but it's over 48 hours if they come out between 1-5 on Thursday, but... ok. That situation is frustrating enough, but the hold times every single time I call being between 45 minutes and an hour is the most annoying and frustrating thing. From a customer service perspective, that amount of hold time should be the exception, not the rule!
It's unacceptable to me that every time I call for assistance, I have to hold for close to or over an hour. Even the hold times for technicians that come out can be excessive. One technician that came to our home had to wait on hold for over 30 minutes to get authorization to provide the service. They can't perform the service until they get that authorization, so they almost left without providing service (AHS couldn't provide a contractor within the time frame so we needed to contact a company outside of the warranty company contractor group - they were really close to refusing to serve us due to how long the hold time was).

The past two times I've had to submit a claim through American Home Shield, they have failed to properly deliver their work orders to the company being hired. Each time I have had to personally hunt the company down and wait well over a week before anyone comes to look at the problem I'm having. Both times, the issue at hand involves my furnace. My family (including my three young children) have had to endure roasting in 100+ degree weather in the summer waiting for someone to fix my air conditioner, and now, will freeze at 40 degree and colder temperatures this fall waiting for these companies to learn how to communicate with one another.
If it was a one time problem, I would have chalked it up to a one-time mistake, but since this happens every time I call them, it's definitely a problem. The companies hired always say they never receive the work order from AHS until I hunt them down myself. These warranties are not cheap - the least the company could do is confirm these businesses are getting their work orders properly! And when they fail to do their job, they should at the very least refund the service fee paid by the customer. I do not recommend AHS for homeowners. I plan to find a different company to go through as soon as my contract is up.

Although I've been a consumer for 30 years, I have never written a review about a company until now. AHS is the worst company I've ever worked with except for Comcast. I was their customer for 11 years only because it is hard for me to take time to change plans, and being a single parent I can't afford to go without a home warranty. The AHS online service request process is very poorly designed and I could never use it because there were certain companies I had to ban from my property due to past incompetent performance, and there was no way to add any kind of comment in the online service request. So I always had to use the phone. Once a service request is logged, you are supposed to be able to look up the status on the internet site, but this rarely worked when I accessed their site.
The phone wait times were extremely long - commonly 30 minutes and sometimes up to 1 hour to the first contact with a representative. This was a multi-year pattern. After reaching a representative, a high percentage of them were not competent in their roles. This too was a multi-year pattern. The last service request I logged (within the past 2 months), I was on hold for 30 minutes and then the representative was so incompetent it took another 30 minutes to log my service request because she kept telling me things weren't covered that were definitely covered.
I was on the phone more than one hour for a simple service request. At one point I asked her to let me speak to a supervisor since she was struggling, and she told me it would be more than 1 hour wait to speak to a supervisor. Over the years, every time I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told every time that a supervisor was not available or that it would be a one hour or more wait.
In August, the contract I had been on became "no longer available." When I called to investigate and arrange for cancellation, the man I spoke to told me that the contract I had been on was still available, just not to me. He said (and this is a quote) "I don't know what you did, but the underwriters have changed your contract and raised your premium." My premium was doubled. It went from approximately $50/month to $100/month. I told the man I wanted to renew only for a month or two while I found another warranty vendor. He said, "No problem, there is no obligation. It is month to month and you can cancel any time." He NEGLECTED TO TELL ME that they charge a "convenience fee" when you cancel: approximately 1 month's premium.
I canceled it today and learned that I now must pay them $92. That same man that explained how they were gouging me also told me that AHS has new owners and they recently started over with a whole new call center. This validates the many complaints of long wait times and incompetent representatives on this and other websites. My experience with AHS was so bad that I simply don't believe the positive reviews on this website. But I'm logging this negative one anyway, in hopes that it might help someone else avoid the bad experiences and losses I have suffered from being their customer. I would also like to know if there is some way to get them to waive the "convenience fee." I am a single working parent and $92 is painful for me financially.

I was getting ready to leave for a vacation when I discovered that we had no hot water. I called American Home Shield that particular time though I was trying to figure out if I was on hold a lot. I called them another day and I never got through. After trying that for 20 minutes, I hung up. As soon as I got a rep on the phone, the claim went fine and they checked who’s available. The turnaround time was good. AHS sent me the names of the people to call but we had to call them to set up an appointment for them to come out. My husband dealt with the contractor. He came in and assessed the problem then came back in two days because he couldn't fix it. He said we needed a new one so he picked up a new heater and brought it back to install it.
He was supposed to come back end of September to put on the faucet but the guy hasn't shown up. We never heard from him until my husband had called him and he said, "No. I know I'm supposed to come back." After that, I had someone from a different company come to repair my dishwasher. The guy checked it out and saw that it needed a new part. So, when the part came in, he came back and installed it. AHS gets somebody to come out or accommodate you whenever you get them.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a refrigerator and an oven and it went well. They handled everything quickly and efficiently and the performance since the repair was fine and working as advertised. My staff also said that the contractor was courteous and professional. I have been with Home Shield for a couple of years and they’ve been very cooperative. I like working with them.

I called American Home Shield because I thought they were covering flooring and other stuff, but they told me that they were not. I also called about a leak in my closet. I ripped the carpet to know exactly where the force of the water is coming from. It's a big leak so there must be something. But I don’t know what it is and they just came and did not charge me. We called for someone else to come over and check it again. The second guy came and didn't do anything. They don’t know where it's coming from, and they just want me to wait for another leak. So do I have to wait for another one and then call again? Are they going to charge me again? I don't know what's going to happen that’s why I'm a little bit frustrated. American Home Shield refers me to another plumbing company but they are charging me for something that’s not done. Until now, I can't figure what the problem is.
