I am extremely dissatisfied with AHS. We put a claim in to have someone come look at a toilet we have upstairs in our full bath upstairs. They sent a company out called Loyalty Plumbing and a gentleman came to the house. He brought a toilet auger with him to the bathroom and before I even made it up to the top of the steps, which five minutes tops, he was coming out of the bathroom and already had the toilet auger back in the bag. He said that something fell into our toilet that clogged it and he couldn't get the ogre down it.

I have no little children, only all teenagers in my house. And I didn't think the kids would be flushing objects down my toilet. I also told him that my husband's got a toilet auger down three times and it still wasn't flushing. He told me my husband didn't have the type of auger he had. I said I could show him the same six feet auger that was outside in the garage because. But refused and said that he will have to call American Home Shield and get us a new toilet.

He left and I didn't hear anything back. I called American Home Shield and they said the toilet was not covered because if we dropped something in the toilet and that was not normal wear and tear. I told them that nothing had fallen in the toilet and told them what happened with the plumber. They said there was nothing they could do so I stopped payment immediately on the $75 service fee check to go to Loyalty Plumbing because of how the plumber was up there and called the company. The owner got irate with my husband and it was bad.

So I called back to American Home Shield and I was on hold forever. When I got through, I talked to three different people and they again said that I could get another company to come out and it would cost you another $75. But if they came back with a different problem then I wouldn't get charged the service fee. I told them that I didn't want Loyalty Home Plumbing to be paid. They said that that didn't matter. Since they came out, they would have to get paid. The higher-up lady then said to me again that there was nothing they could do. I told her that I didn't want to stay with a company that treated their customers the way they did and that I was going to cancel my policy. She told me to do what I had to do so I called to cancel my policy and a lady answered the phone.

She was really nice, asked me why and told me that I was going to get a call in a couple days from retention. A gentleman named Tom called me that next day and asked me what happened and I told him. And the next thing I knew, I got a call from a company called CNJ and they said that they were coming out to look at our toilet. American Home Shield called them out. I asked if there was a service charge for it and they said there wasn't. I told Tom that the CNJ was coming out on Friday to assess the toilet and if they could straighten around, I wouldn't have a problem paying the $75 service charge if it were to go to the company that did their job and I would stay with AHS.

CNJ came out and they were so nice and very professional. I would only let them into my home. The technician told me that we had a vacuum leak in the toilet. There was a crack somewhere going up from wear and system overuse and it wouldn't push it down. They were here for over half an hour. He told me that they would order our toilet and get all that situated. The next thing I knew they came back to put the toilet in and set it all up. They said they had to get a hold of American Home Shield to get the approval from them. A gentleman said that American Home Shield didn't authorize the toilet but he knew we needed one. He told AHS that we couldn't do without it.

So I called American Home Shield again. I was getting the same thing that I had to pay the $75 service fee but it was saying it was going to Loyalty Home. I was not paying Loyalty Home and neither should AHS. I told AHS I would pay the $75 if it was going to CNJ. But it didn't matter who we paid as CNJ got paid as well. So AHS paid $150 and the one company didn’t do their job. I also asked if they gave CNJ the authorization for the toilet which should have been covered and also if they reimbursed them. AHS said they'd get someone to get in contact with me but no one's called me.

I got emails so I wrote a big thing out on the email because it was saying that if I didn't pay the $75, it was going to hurt our policy. After numerous calls and getting nowhere, I did an email reply explaining everything since I didn't have a problem paying the $75 if it was going to go to CNJ. I also wanted to make sure CNJ got reimbursed for the toilet they put in or to see what's going.

If a company runs like that with AHS, I wouldn't want any part in them and I would never recommend them. It's getting to the point where I'm ready to write a horrible report on American Home Shield because I have never in my life dealt with anything like this over a toilet. Whenever I say all this, it just falls on deaf ears. No one has taken it to the proper area. I've called, put on hold for an hour then I got disconnected. As soon as someone picked up the phone, they'd hang the phone up. It was ridiculous. It's terrible how AHS is running the company, for home warranty company. And Loyalty Home services was a joke and people should stay away from them.

I made two claims with American Home Shield. One of the outlets was giving me problems. The guy that American Home Shield sent came and fixed it. He changed the whole outlet and it worked again. But I asked him if the company would cover a major problem with all the wires in my house and he told me no. He said what they do is repair what is not working but they won't pay for the whole wiring. And they didn't give me another option in the computer. So if it's electric it doesn’t let you put anything else.

This next complaint was with the plumbing. I was telling the guy that I have a little leak in my bathroom. It's a small guest bathroom. He didn't change anything. He just adjusted what's there. He told me, "Just don't take out that wall, because there's a lot of mold in that wall." And I said, "And you don't fix it?" He said, "No, we don't fix those claims. I don't think that American Shield also covered walls. No, they won't, okay?"

He said, "Don't mess with that wall because you will open a Pandora box. There's a lot of mold there and you will have to change the whole wall." The reps were very kind persons and oriented to the detail and very professional. But I would like the contractor to fill a form saying that I have mold. Nobody knows but him. I didn't even know that I have mold there. I'm very dissatisfied with AHS. I won't recommend it because it's not covering anything.

We had AHS work on our heating unit and they replaced part of the heater. However, it took us a while to get it all settled out. Apparently, a lot of the ways they do business have changed and we didn’t know about it. No one had explained to us that we're supposed to pay the $75 fee upfront so we got a bill from American Home Shield in our email saying that we’re delinquent when it’s only been three days. We didn’t know why we were getting a bill and it took us a while to get that resolved. The work that was done was satisfactory. However, we were not happy with the contact and the billing part of it. It’s also impossible to reach anyone on the telephone. I had to wait over an hour to be able to speak to someone.

We've been with them for 15 years and we’ve had some really good experiences with them in the past. We’ve always been extremely happy or we wouldn’t have kept renewing. Even when the process and the service call have gone up, we still renewed because they’ve always been prompt and really easy to deal with until this year. This past year was a little frustrating. No one ever explained to us that they had changed the way they do business. We had already paid our annual fee. We even paid the whole thing at one time. We came really close to canceling because it was so frustrating trying to reach someone on the telephone. Their contractors are very good. Through the years, we’ve been happy with who they send out and we’ve only had one or two that were not top-notch. Overall, we've had a very good experience with AHS and we have recommended them to friends.

The duct system for my heating and air conditioning unit was not working and the air flow was light. When I filed the claim over with AHS, it was pretty easy and their live representatives were nice. Their contractors aren't the best, though. The one they sent for the duct system didn't come out right when he was supposed to, but besides that he was fine. I'm just waiting for someone to come out to install it. The technician's really booked out to the heating season, but that doesn't have anything to do with American Home Shield.

I had another claim for a plumbing issue and the contractors they sent for that one were terrible. When they first came out, they said that nothing was wrong when I knew that there was a big leak from my tub. The drain was clogged and every time I tried to plug it or even use the plunger, it would leak down through my ceiling in my kitchen because my bathroom is upstairs. So I called them again and they came out again. They then said that it was just an easy fix so hey said they'd fix it again and I don't know what they did but it didn’t fix the problem. So I had to call them again. But they never came out and they didn't want to do it.

AHS sent out another contractor who finally fixed it and I'm glad they did, but the whole plumbing issue took about a month. It sucks that it took that long. Also, I didn't like how they fixed it because they got floor joist to put in the pipe and I had to pay someone to put in new floor joist in my house. AHS usually only has two contractors per area, so that makes it hard. But AHS sends someone out fast if you do have a problem. This is not my first time that I've gotten a home warranty, plus I did a lot of research to get one when I bought a house, and I think that AHS is the best company for home warranties.

We had AHS ever since I had a home which is around 10 years. I talked to one of their representatives when I submitted a claim for a leak under the sink. The contractor they sent out was good. They had to get the garbage disposal. The technician came out last week, and the last time I checked, it was dry up to the sink. They're very good and if a friend would ask me about American Home Shield, I'd say, "Go for it."

My furnace quit. I’m usually an over-the-phone person, but I found it actually very easy to submit the claim online. I had an email back saying who was going to be calling me, who did within four hours. They were here the very next day and I was very impressed. The guy that came out was amazing. He was here for four or five hours. He looked the furnace over and told me what was wrong with it. He found a couple of other issues and fixed those as well so it didn’t break in a couple of weeks. After the repair, there’s snow on the ground and it’s warm in my house.

The only thing that surprised me was I had to pay the service fee. I didn’t know about that when we bought the house. I thought that that all came with it, with how much money that the warranty was. We went through all of the paperwork with the previous owner and even my realtor. Nobody said that there was a service fee when I call. But I’m very satisfied with AHS and I would recommend them to a friend. It's been wonderful.

Every year we have AHS get our air conditioner fixed and I prefer to file my claim over the phone because I like to make sure I’m talking to somebody and it’s getting addressed right away. My husband does it online though. They recently fixed it but we're not happy with the process that AHS has because this air conditioner is very old. We had it fixed seven times in one year. If I ask the rep how I could go about possibly getting a new AC, I feel like I never get an answer and it’s really unresolved. They explain it but it never really makes sense to me.

They always say to have the technician submit something and I tell them that the technician won’t submit anything because the problem is fixable. It has to be completely broken. They said that they will never replace it as long as it’s fixable, but unfortunately, we had to have somebody come out four times in a month. If our air conditioner went out, it was the same issue over and over but it was fixable. I feel that with AHS if you ever want anything replaced, it’s never going to happen.

Last year, our AC went out immediately multiple times. But recently, it stayed okay. Majority of the time, the technicians have not done a good job though. There was this one guy who went to the attic, cut his hand and was gushing blood. He was walking to my living room and dripping blood over everything which was gross. I was sympathetic and wanted to help the guy, but he could have stayed in there and asked for help.

I called American Home Shield for an air conditioning problem and on the four occasions that I did, I was on hold for almost an hour each time. Their machine was very helpful because it tells you that your wait time is greater than half an hour, but it's useless since it should tell the time frame. Then, they sent me a fly-by-night company called Total Air Care who came out the first time on October 12th, then on October 20th, 26th, 30th, 31st, November 9th and the seventh time today, November 10. I told them I have no faith in them because every one of them stood in front of me, switched out parts and told me that was the problem, but the parts were working perfectly well. They didn’t know how to diagnose it and had to redo what the guy before them did.

One guy spent an hour putting a new thermostat in, but it was never an issue to begin with. I also got a new capacitor and the one that was in there was a year old, a new blower module and a new relay module. But if that doesn’t fix it, we're back to square one and they have to come back the 8th time. Also, I just spent another three and a half hours today waiting and working with AHS's contractor. I had to rearrange my schedule every day, sit here and wait for them and get up in the attic with them to see what they're doing.

They also sent me different technicians and last time, I told them that I didn’t want the last two they sent me. One of them left the cover off outside the condenser and ran off with the screw, and I didn’t want the condenser to be exposed to the rain. He even had an attitude with me when he came back. I also asked him to show me his credentials but he's not even a school-trained mechanic.

When I asked Home Shield to switch to another company, they said I couldn’t switch until it went through them at least four times. I called them at the sixth time and they told me I didn’t call them every time and went directly to the company, and I could go with another company but have to pay another $75. I told them I already paid $75 and that they sent me an incompetent company, so when I asked what if I pay again and they send me a company who can’t diagnose the problem, they said they’re not responsible for it.

In addition to that, the air conditioner didn’t work when I came back on Monday and my housemate said the air conditioner ran all weekend, 24/7. My housemate is also a hypochondriac and allergic to everything. She's coughing and gagging because I had the windows open and she didn’t want to be in here because of the air quality. So, I had to listen to her complain every day and she said she would never use Home Shield again when she owns a home. Overall, I’m not happy because of the phone service and because they made me stick with bad companies. I got a new system which was a win for me, but the service was ridiculous and horrible.

Since I’ve been working with American Home Shield, I had so many claims and they have sent some technicians out that’s real good. There was an electrical issue with the light in one of the rooms and the guy who came out spent time and fixed it. He explained things to us and did good. Recently, I called AHS to fix the heater/air conditioner unit outside that's making a horrible noise. Sometimes it works just straight and the next time it doesn't. When the guy came, the unit wasn’t making the noise that we heard and it was working all right. He said that the unit's got to do the bad thing for him to know what to fix. So he said for 60 days he could come back for no charge. But when I put a call-in to him because I had a question for him, he never called me back. I ended up paying $75 and nothing was fixed. The unit's performance is still spotty and I'm dissatisfied with AHS.

We tried to start our furnace one morning as it was starting to get cold out, but it didn't start up. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and a contractor called me the very next morning. His name is Josh and he's a great guy. I told him that I left the door unlocked for him. He came that same morning, went in, did what he needed to do, had the furnace fixed, and locked the door on his way out. There was a switch inside and it was an easy fix, which took 5 minutes. The furnace is now working and the experience was smooth.

We used to have different warranty company but there has been a fall out and so we've been with American Home Shield since summer. I've had nothing but good experiences with American Home Shield and I've used them pretty much standard and even on my own home. I'm at real estate and when we do home warranties, we always go to them. I've also brought a lot of business to them and they've done a good job. I tell clients that having American Home Shield gives a peace of mind especially if they're a first time home buyer. And if they're uneasy about something breaking and don't know what to do or how to fix it, they can call American Home Shield who can get a contractor over there and have it fixed shortly.

We've stayed with American Home Shield a long time because they seem to be extremely reliable. I'm not entirely sure how they get a vendor listed but most of the people that we called tend to come from farther away but that's kind of common. Other than that, I have really good experience. I paid American Home Shield online and the company didn't try to collect the $75. So, all that seems to be going fine.

I had an issue relating to my side-by-side refrigerator freezer. I called American Home Shield and they connected me with the company, which moved relatively quickly. Once AHS passed it off to the actual repair company, their main objective is to intervene if there's an issue which it ended up not being an issue. My claim was for a microwave and a refrigerator and something with the microwave part took a long time, so the refrigerator remained unrepaired. I think they could repair the refrigerator and then come back and repair the microwave but I'm sure they don't want to lose all the money on the trip charge. The biggest inconvenience was not being able to microwave and we're staying with the house full of kids so that was frustrating. But once it all got fixed, it all seems to be working just fine.

My house is in the market to be sold, and that’s why I have American Home Shield and so I contacted the company and they made arrangements for air conditioning people and for plumbers. The plumbers came first and they found the leak and were able to repair it so that was very good because I’ve been going without water for a week in the house because I had to shut off the main.

But I was a bit frustrated about the air conditioning service. The company came and they identified the problem, a blower motor in the air handling unit, but they did not have the appropriate motor so they said they would have to special order and come back in about a week. And when they came back with the new motor, they had the wrong one so it was another week before they were able to install a new motor and get it fixed. Other than that, I was satisfied with the work that was done.

I had an ongoing claim with American Home Shield as far as my plumbing is concerned though it is closed now. The first guy that came out snaked out my pipe but the same problem existed. I waited a couple of days to make sure that was what was happening although it wasn't to the same magnitude as when I initially called them. I called them back again and they came back. It was an acceptable time period and he changed out the garbage disposal. But this time when he left, there was water draining on the floor and it was coming from that side of the sink where he worked on and had replaced the garbage disposal. And I knew it was that side because between the time he did not come and he came back, we only used the right side of the sink and the water wasn't draining out.

I kept calling them back. He came on a Friday and I called him back that next day which was a Saturday. I understood that it was the weekend but I still expected to hear some response from him but he never called me back. When I called him, his wife answered the phone and she said that the office did not open until 10. I assumed he wasn't up for talking or going to any visit until after 10. That wasn't a good experience for me. When I called them back the next week and explained my problem, she said that she would send someone who was a master plumber and would fix it. When one of the reps came back the third time, he fixed it though the same guy didn't come every job.

I haven't had any problems but the first time their guy came, I gave him a check and he never deposited it. I have been receiving some notices from AHS that I need to pay my account because my account is delinquent. But my account isn't delinquent because AHS does a draft on my account every month. I'm reluctant to call AHS and pay them and then their guy submits or cashes the check. I don't want to do a stop payment because I did what I was supposed to do.

Moreover, I called AHS to file a claim because when they sent me a letter, they had a customer representative number there. I wanted to hear a voice and I wanted to talk to somebody. When I initially called and explained my problem, it was a voice recording so I couldn't converse with her. I called for several things that I had problems with and when I said the light in the oven was not working, she said that I needed to talk to an electrician. She gave me the person to call, Cheviano. He has come to my house before and I knew he was an electrician. He came out and I told him that I wasn't having electrical problems and that I was having a problem with my oven. He gave me the customer service number because he does wiring. My wiring was fine and I already checked to see if I needed to reset my electrical outlet. It was just a light that burned out and American Home Shield charged me for that.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend AHS because I've had them for so many years, and this is the first time I've had a problem with it. Not with American Home Shield, but with their vendor.

Now, there are times when I’d like to ask a question or make a comment when making a request and it’s really difficult to do that. I can’t do it online or on the phone so American Home Shield should have a way for that.

So, I was really happy with the service. I'm also pleased with the person that came out and worked on the problem. He was on time and he replaced my garbage disposal unit. It was very easy to file the claim and the reps were very professional. They answered my questions and even went a little bit above and beyond. The contractor that came out was incredible. They called to give me a heads up about when they would be there so I could leave work and meet them. The technician was just amazingly professional and he took care of everything. American Home Shield gives a divine peace of mind for the day-to-day things that could happen at your house. It's a little expensive, but it's worth every penny.

My water heater was making a very strange noise although it wasn’t leaking. I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on so I turned the water off, called AHS and scheduled. The rep let me know who the local person was that would be calling me and gave me the contact information in case I didn’t hear from them. She told me it would probably be 24 to 48 hours before I would hear from somebody. I ended up calling the local person that she gave just to check because I was worried it could be gas or something else. And when I talked to the local people, they said it would take within the same day. They said that it usually would be at the end of that day or early the next morning before they received the claim. And once they did, they called me right away and scheduled it for the next day.

It took about three days for my appointment. He called me when he was on his way and once the guy got here, which was within the time frame, he found out that the water heater was making noise because it was sending the water out through that relief valve. He fixed it within 30 minutes. There’s no more noise and it’s working perfectly.

But before that, he took me outside to where that water comes up from the relief valve just so I would know what was going on. He showed me that the water was coming out and if it ever happened again, I could check to see if it’s the water and I would know that was what the problem was. He was excellent and courteous. He was very good explaining what was going on and very quick. The only thing they could improve on is the time frame. The window that they gave me that they would be there was a five-hour window which is a little bit long as it's going to basically take the whole day. Moving forward, if they could make smaller windows, it would be much better relief.

I filed a claim four weeks ago to American Home Shield for my AC that's having problems. The water runs after the heat pump. The technician came out and put Freon in my old unit and it lasted for about two weeks and then they came back again and put in a new outside unit and fixed the problem. I got an issue but I don't know why the heat pump doesn't get hot when I turn the heat on. I'm not sure how that works especially if it's cold outside. I don't know if the Freon's supposed to heat up or what. I don't understand it. But other than that, the AC part works fine. My AC's working now.

Their reps were very good. I've had AHS ever since I bought the house in 2009. And they fixed my refrigerator, my dishwasher, my stove, washing machine. So, they have good quality work. The workers were really nice and professional. I even told my neighbor he needs to get AHS coverage for his house. So far, I'm satisfied with AHS. I would recommend them to anyone that would be looking for insurance coverage on their home appliances.

However, he wasn't that great and wasn't very cooperative. We have two ACs, one for upstairs and another for downstairs. Both of them are located in the attic and we called someone to look at them. The guy came in and looked at the one for upstairs. He said that the problem was I had two chokers in it. We had to cut one, then it worked fine. We asked him to also look at the one for downstairs, but he said that we had to make another request. That means another call and we had to pay $35 again. I was not happy that we had to call the AC guy one more time when we already someone who could take a look at it. Other than that, I don't have much complaints. He fixed the problem. In general, the experience has been good.

We set a new appointment but at the end of the appointment window, I get a text message saying the appointment has been canceled and they rescheduled it again. It was a weekday which I cannot do. The appointment scheduling process was a lot of back and forth and I was getting really frustrated. I was at the point where I was going to call AHS and ask them to contract somebody else. I recently had service requests with American Home Shield for the oven and the garbage disposal. And as far as the garbage disposal, the technician did his best shot and he ultimately was able to get it done as fast as he could. However, there were multiple issues with the oven and it took four weeks to get it repaired. Getting a request was a big issue. It takes time to order parts and it wasn’t anything quick, but I'm glad we were able to get it resolved.

I called American Home Shield twice when I was looking to sign-up and the sign-up process was easy. But I was concerned that it was very difficult to know exactly what’s covered and what’s not. It’s very elaborate when it comes to what the plan supports, but it's not very detailed when you’re requesting for a service. I had the garbage disposal replaced because it was leaking. My garbage disposal was covered, but the power cord was not covered so I had to pay separately for it. I was not expecting that the coverage of my garbage disposal excludes the power cable. So, I had a lot of heartburn behind it and I did not like it at all. I ended up paying it. It really kind of bothered me but it was a fair amount of money that I would have to pay for the service.

When I had to call them to extend the request, which I did twice over the phone and then one over the internet, both experiences were fine. And I didn’t have any problems submitting the request. I am kind of thorough, so I didn’t wait until the service company contacts me. And so, I followed up with them and then I had to wait until they were available to give me a callback, which was not a problem. On each request, I waited about two days until they called me to get a date scheduled, and it wasn’t bad.

The only other thing that could have been improved was knowing more details about what happened. I would hope that the company that’s doing the request would understand that I had a problem with paying for the power cord and put it into the notes. I would like for AHS to know that it was something that I paid in addition to the $75 service fee and to what I’m paying for my service membership. But overall, I’ve had a positive experience. Outside of the power cord, which was a part of the details in the agreement that I did not like at all, my experience with the representatives, signing up online, the website and understanding my account details, have all been great. I got what I wanted and I’m satisfied with the all the benefits that it brings.

The issue with my refrigerator has been going on since before October. The first time when I originally issued the claim, no one called me for a week and a half. Then when I called back to see why no one called me, they gave me another company. That company called and they came out two weeks later, in early October. When he came out, he said that he had to order some parts. He came and put the part in, but it didn’t work. The cold came on again, so I had to call them back out. They came back out on November the 7th. He just looked at it and he had to order some more parts. I called to see what was taking so long for these parts to come in and when I called back on the 16th, I was told that they had just submitted the order for the parts. So another week and a couple of days had gone by before they had even submitted the order for the parts.

So the parts didn’t come in until the 22nd, the day before Thanksgiving. Needless to say, I did not have a refrigerator for Thanksgiving. So, when the people came on Thanksgiving to try to fix it, they said, “Oh, your refrigerator just needed to get defrosted.” I said, “Well, nobody told me that. I would have had it defrosted”. So he came back on Tuesday and he told me to wait 24 hours and I left my house, and he came in about 2:00 yesterday. When I left out of my house at 11:00 o’ clock, it should have been cold at that time, but it wasn’t. The cold was coming on, but it’s not cooling, so I had to call again. I called Universal, and they said to call AHS so he can come out. Now, he’s going to come out on Tuesday with some kind of diagnostic tool to see why it’s not cooling.

AHS take too long to pick up so you have to stay on the phone for at least half an hour. And when I try to get something resolved, they'd say, “Oh the supervisor is in here. She’s online.” I felt like I had to pull teeth to try and get some resolution. I should not have paid that full-service fee when from the very beginning, no one called me for a week and a half, and then when they came out, it took another week to order the parts, and when they came to repair it, they never told me that I need a deposit. So, all around, it’s been problems. They said that they would give me half off on the next service but I said, “I don’t even know if I’m going to even keep it after this.”

I understand that AHS is trying to get everybody to use online, but when you call, you go through the automated service, and then you request for a representative, that's when the wait time comes in. You get that music recording and wait for a representative to pick up. But once you get in contact with someone for you to put your work request in, everything goes in the flow. The contractor came out and did a repair then the same exact problem occurred. He came back out, claimed to fix it and said that was a fluke but then it happened again the third time. I suspect that the person might not know quite as much as he should. The website clearly has an issue as well. It shows that you can click to pay the $75 fee when the service is gone but it does not work at all. You have no choice but to pay $75 even if you have a return service or a repair that was not right. Now we’re calling the actual repair people rather than calling back Home Shield, who we cannot contact at all. That full charge is not fun and I’m not going to be paying another $75 for them to come out. But other than that, everything else has been fine.

I turned the heater and it made a huge bumping sound like it was about to explode. I turned it off and wasn’t sure what was going on. My husband came home from work and we turned it on again, same noise. He said to go ahead and call American Home Shield. The girl said we're not covered for noise, so we need to do it ourselves. We've had AHS for three years now since we moved into our home and it has always been an awesome, very good experience. This was the first time I ever had something like this happen.

When the technician finally came, the heater guy said there was something wrong and it shouldn’t be making noise. He found exactly what was wrong and fixed the problem. Every other claims have been good and very prompt. One thing I really like is the follow up service and AHS never tries to charge me extra for it. They call me back when they know that the person didn’t get the job done. I never have to call and chase them down. The contractors are honest in looking at things. If they're unable to fix it, they're honest about it and ask to do a follow up and find somebody. I like that. I've never had any bad interactions with them. I filed a claim for a leakage in my refrigerator. I tried to do it that fastest way by calling. It was easier for me than doing it online. I called the contractor directly and said “Did you receive this order?” And they said “Oh yes, we received it,” because if I wait it takes a whole day. I filed two claims -- one for the plumber and the other one was the refrigerator guy.

The appliance guy is the best. He was so nice and he will tell you how things are and all that. He came a couple of times and I was like, “Oh my god, he was so good." But the plumber was so-so. Instead of putting a new hose for my leakage under my deck for the water he just tied it up and he said “No, we’re going to charge $150 all-expense paid.” And AHS sends a picture of everything from the person that’s going to come to you and they tell you if he’s 10 minutes away. It’s so cool. If he’s 10 minutes away I get ready and clear everything up for them so they don’t have anything around them and they can work. And they fixed everything.

But I initially have issues with American Home Shield two years ago. No one came to me and I spent three days with no heating. They tried to make it up to me and I cut my service for two years because that was not good. And now I was also getting bills for something that I already paid online and I’m worried. I already made the payments because now you have to put the order in where you make a payment with your credit card.

But I referred American Home Shield to a lot people because I know they had upgraded a lot of things and it's getting better now. They have better people and they had better companies working for them. So I appreciate that because some of the companies that worked for them were very crappy before. And now they’re more responsible — because they’re going to have more secure jobs with them and they’re going to have more work. And that’s working better for everybody. The customers also feel better.

This includes getting in touch with them because there's almost an hour hold time. Also, the response in terms of scheduling service is not consistent. There is a minimum time per the contract but sometimes it's slow and sometimes it's faster. But I've seen that change in the last two years.

My last claim to them was a sewage ejector pump issue and our toilet was clogging. It hasn't been fixed yet but it was easy to have them follow up. I had followup appointments twice, especially on plumbing. It was a disappointing service. They misinterpreted the contract and they were not ready to listen so I had to talk to a supervisor. Their staff is not clear about contracts themselves. That raised to an issue in which I had a two-hour call and then back and forth. Then the supervisor called me after three days. If it were an emergency issue, it would have been a big problem.

With my initial calls to set up and inquire about the service, the young lady that set-up my service was very nice and knowledgeable of everything that they offer.

My most recent claim was a couple of weeks ago, when my dryer went out. I filed a claim online and within a couple of hours after filing the claim, the contractor company contacted me and asked me what was wrong. The caller asked me to give her the model and the main information with the serial number. I got her that information, she called me back and was able to schedule the service call. The tech came out with the part in here, repaired it and that was it. I tried to get everybody's name the last week to when I have to call, just in case we run into some problems down the line. But so far, that was the only thing that I've had to call about. Now our dryer's working great. I get a lot of horror stories from people about front load washers and dryers, and I also get a lot of horror stories from people about Samsung appliances. But ours was repairable and it's serving its purpose.

From my first experience with having to use American Home Shield, for what I pay monthly and what I had to pay for the service cost of the tech who came out, it was worth it. Without them, calling somebody out to repair the dryer would have cost us a lot more than what we're paying and what we're getting as well as the one-time service fee from what I was told is covered for that contractor to come out and repair. And if there's anything else that goes on with my dryer in a certain amount of time, they come back out and we don't have to put up the $125 in.

They also gave me a result of the repairman coming to our house last week and told me what I can do. AHS is very fast, and they respond very well.

Recently, there was something wrong with the sensors of our garage door opener. I called American Home Shield and did their automated system for claim submission. The contractor came out very quickly and the issue was taken care of the same day. Since the repair, the garage door opener's performance has been good. It had been a positive experience with AHS.

I had a problem with my heater making a lot of noise and it was not heating up as quickly as it used to either. I was off of work and waiting when the guy came, which was even sooner than I expected. He didn't take long to pinpoint what the issues were. He said the filters needed to be replaced and the motor was the one making the noise. It was about to go but he oiled it and when he left it seemed a little quieter. He said to give him a call back if there were any more problems. He didn't have any filters but all my problems had to stop so I had to go to the store and get filters. But the only complaint I have with American Home Shield is the wait time when you call on the phone. It's long sometimes but the reps were always very friendly. Plus there's always good service and good people have come to repair.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone when my air conditioner went out. I gave the claims rep my account number and told him what happened then he set me up with an appointment with ACE Unit who was our a/c guy out of San Antonio. ACE Unit came and said it was the compressor. They told the AHS what we needed and took care of it.

But when AHS had someone came out for the a/c the first time it was a different company and I was not impressed with them. I called AHS back and told one of their reps that I didn't want those to represent AHS. The rep said that it's not a problem and that they would send someone else and they did. AHS was quick and on time. When they said they're sending someone they will and I don’t have to check up on them. They’re a good company to have and I like them.

I've had a good experience with AHS in the three years I've been with them. I've filed a claim over the phone for my fridge and my dryer, and though the wait time is terrible, my experience with the last two guys they sent out has been good. If there's something wrong and I call them, they're out here in a couple of days with no problem. The refrigerator was leaking and since the freezer was on the bottom, it was filling up with water. Then the water would freeze. The guy came here Monday and made sure it was working right. First, he flushed out the back and then came back three weeks later. He pulled the whole pan off from the front and side of the freezer and flushed it out. It worked perfectly.

The guy who fixed my washing machine was also very good at what he did. There have been three other people who came to work on it, but they didn't know what they were doing. He came and figured out what the problem was right away. He got the part needed and fixed the washing machine. My hot water heater was also blowing up so we called AHS. The guy who came looked at it and called the plumber. The plumber was out here that same day and fixed it. Then it started leaking but they fixed it right away.

Their reps on the phone were okay but one time, they had a problem with a claim that I had put in. It involved a buyout and I couldn’t get the correct place to send the information that they needed. It took three tries and over three months before we finally got it done. But the contractors they sent out were professional and while some of my claims took slower to get done than others, the last one was very quickly completed. It was for my heater that wasn't working which the contractor figured out after only one visit.

The contractor was very helpful and asked me about the problem and how long had it been going on. He was here for maybe 40 minutes and he stopped the noise. Nobody from the guys who came out and serviced my unit asked me about the noise. He was the one who couldn’t stand it. He was awesome and was very efficient. The unit is working awesome. He then evaluated saying that I needed a new ice maker, then he called back to whoever and made sure that it was covered, and it was. It took a little bit for them to get the part and now that they installed it, the ice maker is still not working. So I was going to call them today and see if they can come back and look. A year ago, I had a very difficult experience with American Home Shield trying to get a dishwasher replaced. The first time the guy came out, he looked at it and replaced something. Then we found out that he needed another part. He came back and said he could not get the dishwasher out. I talked to my tenant and the wife was able to pull the dishwasher out. I was told lame excuses that it has to be a GE part and they can't find it, and they don't do this. Another week passed and they said they shipped the part to the house. The part never showed up.

We waited and waited until after three months, and my tenant got upset with me 'cause I didn't have a dishwasher. So I ended up coming out of my pocket buying a new dishwasher and having it installed. Although I have been contacting American Home Shield about this problem, they told me because I didn't do something right, I did not have their approval to buy a dishwasher and were not willing to compensate me.

This was in my property in Louisiana. I was upset about it especially 'cause I've been paying month after month for the maintenance fee. Because they were not working at all for me, I ended up cancelling the warranty. But the people that I had working here in California did well. They came out and repaired the air conditioning, garbage disposal, and the shower. The service has been okay and I'm waiting to get a stove delivered today because my stove was too far gone for them to repair.

This was during the point where they were starting their to give their customers the option of paying them or paying the contractor. A technician came out and did a good job but after I paid him, he told AHS that he didn't get paid. So AHS sent me a thing saying I hadn't paid him and I had to go get a copy of the check I gave him then fax it back to AHS to clear my bill. That was discomforting but it was a confusing time when they were switching to making payments online. Finally, they got that straightened up and it's made things easier.

I had one experience with American Home Shield that was pretty good. We had a faulty refrigerator and we had to wait for a while until the people contacted us. But after they contacted us, they were very nice and they eventually fixed the problem. We really liked them and if something would come up again, I'd call them again.

But there was something on the contract saying that if it's faulty work, then it's covered. This house was renovated when we bought it, and we have a brand new tiled floor in the bathroom shower, and grout is coming out of the floor and the tiles are moving. And when I called American Home Shield, they said that walls, floors, and ceilings are not under the contract. And to me, it looks like it is under the contract. So if it's not covered then they should not put it in their contract because it's misleading and it's false advertising.

I asked to speak to the manager and the rep said there was not one available. So she was going to have the supervisor call me. I asked when can I expect a cal, and she told me that they'd get back to me within 24 hours but they never called me back. It takes 45 minutes to get through so I didn't call them back. And I've called them twice before that and both times, I was on hold for 45 minutes before I could even get somebody.

We noticed that the AC wasn't cooling so we called American Home Shield and it wasn't too bad placing the claim. But the follow-up with the contractor was kind of crazy. The contractor said they were going to be there between 8:00 and 1:00, so my wife stayed on that day. The guy didn't call until about 5:00 and he was trying to get into the drive gate and we couldn't get him in. But they didn't call us and say they couldn't make it so we could make other arrangements. But they came the next day and took care of the AC.

The contractor seemed to know what he was doing but he didn't talk much. He tried to explain the issue to my in-laws who were there but up to now, I'm not aware of what the problem was. My in-laws couldn't explain to me what he really said. It was weird because when we had previous technicians that came, they would explain the problem. But for some reason, the contractor who came didn't explain it properly. Other than that, he did a good job and the AC is working well.

I've been with AHS for a long time and one thing they are doing well is whenever you need something, you can contact them and they schedule a service, that's very efficient. The real problem is the companies they are using. Sometimes the company is not the best and they have sent some bad companies in the past. They need to screen the companies a little bit more. There have been three instances where we told AHS we didn't want the company that was here before to come back. My wife would talk to them and explain to them exactly why. They didn't put up a resistance. They said they it was not a problem, they understood and they complied. Other than that, I've recommended AHS to a lot of people.

Submitting a claim has been very easy, and when I speak over the phone with the reps at Home Shield, they’re very friendly and I usually have a very good experience. But the wait times are usually pretty bad so I started doing it online. There has been a lot of little things that seem to keep happening. I submitted a claim for our furnace that was very old and we didn’t have a gas leak, but they shut my gas and then the furnace didn’t go on right. I also requested service for our air conditioning which is also very old and we had a little trouble with their contractors not showing up. And then they sent out another contractor and they’ve been wonderful.

The AC is fine but the furnace, unfortunately, is still doing what it was doing before. It's such an old furnace and there’s a way to bleed the line to keep the water so you don’t hear it and unfortunately, the tech didn't know exactly how to do it, so I’m still hearing the water running through. Home Shield is a good product and they've been very good, though. They’re always very on time and I've had a very good experience so far. I would recommend them to other people especially if they’re buying an older home.

My original call to AHS was in March and throughout the months until October when it was replaced. I had the technicians come out eight times. The contractor first said it was the Freon but eventually, it was the compressor which they replaced. They came out again and said that it was leaking coolant at the unit and my attic. That was when I had AHS replace it. But I ended up paying $700 in Freon throughout March until October because it was not covered. Also, I usually get online for my claims but I ended up having to call AHS right before they did the replacement because I couldn't do anything online because it was still a previous ticket. I was on hold for 50 minutes before I finally talked to somebody.

My AC kept blowing a fuse, and every time the repair people come out, they would just say, “Oh, it’s just a broken fuse". In a period of three years, they came out at least seven times. But, there were some other issues that had happened. Then another air conditioning company came and figured it out, and they repaired it. When I’ve spoken to American Home Shield about it, after speaking to them one night, then the issue was resolved. I think they gave me a couple of free service calls, so they gave me like two $75 credits.

There was a dispute once with American Home Shield too when one of the representatives said, “No, that’s not going to be covered.” I said, “Okay. Well, then I just won’t renew with you guys.” And then afterwards somebody from American Home Shield retention called me and said, “Hey, what can we do to get you back?” After I told them what happened, the agent went ahead and she submitted the claim for me and that’s how they’re able to resolve the issue. Right now, I’m not very happy with American Home Shield because they renewed my contract wherein the price went up by 7$ a month. Furthermore, $75 is expensive when they do a service call.

We usually file our claims with AHS online and haven't had any issues getting what we needed fixed. But we learned from one of our recent transactions that if we have more than one system, we need to file our claim by phone because when we do it online, we can only put in one claim for one system. I wasn't pleased about that. With our new home we have multiple AC units and because we only put one claim in, they only were going to service one unit. They told us to call back and pay another service call fee for them to service the other units. But the contract doesn't specify how many units when the contractor comes out.

The contractor we dealt with was great and very flexible. But we had an issue with Greenway. We put two claims in, one for the AC and one for the furnace. But the person who came out said he was there for only one of the claims. For whatever reason, AHS decided to cancel one of our claims. When I called to ask why they sent only one person when we had two claims, they said they didn't think we needed the other one. But they never called to check with us and they had the contractor turn back around and come back out.

Another thing is with M&M contractors. They wouldn’t service our claim because we only did it online. The rep walked me through the process and was very knowledgeable about how to handle it and what to do. But she also acted as if American Home Shield was their company. So some of the interaction we had with her wasn't that good. Other than that, the work that the contractors, Greenway and M&M, have done were great. I've had AHS on my house for three years now and everything has been great. But the warranty is a lot of money.

I’ve been trying to get my refrigerator fixed for two and a half weeks now. American Home Shield first assigned me to a company called Big Bill’s. They came out and they diagnosed my refrigerator problem. They said it was something with the compressor and they didn’t work on that. They called American Home Shield and said that the job had to be assigned to someone else. Then they assigned me to All Star Appliance. All Star Appliance is the gentleman that came out on my refrigerator and said that he replaced the computer circuit board in the back, and it still froze up after that. But then he claims that American Home Shield canceled the work order.

I requested someone else to do the job other than All Star Appliances. So they assigned it to Bush’s Appliance Repair. They got the work order and a young man came out yesterday. He troubleshot the refrigerator and checked everything that he could. He diagnosed it as being the compressor and said that he would call to get one. But when I called American Home Shield this morning to find out if there was anything that they can do for us since we’ve been without a refrigerator for a long time now and we lost our food, they simply said that there was nothing that they can do. That’s not their business. It was rumored to me by someone that they would purchase a small refrigerator so people can have some refrigerator for their milk at least. However, they said that they don’t do that.

So we are still waiting for a refrigerator. The lady that I spoke to said that the part would be in on the 12th of November. And as soon as Bush’s Appliance can, they would come out and put it on my refrigerator. One problem I have with American Home Shield is that every time I call, I have to be put on extended hold. I was on hold Thursday morning and I’m not happy at all with being on hold for an hour and a half. When the lady answered the phone, she simply told me that their computer system was down, and there was nothing that they can do to help me with my problem. I have a very busy life schedule. I have things that I have to do that takes me away from the phone and being on hold for that amount of time for me is ridiculous.

It looks like we’re going to get the refrigerator repaired. When I originally called in the work order, I called in the work order for two things. One, the refrigerator froze up and then, the freezer side of my refrigerator defrosted. When I went to bed, I thought it was working fine. But when I woke up the next morning, it wasn’t working. It froze up and everything was thawing out. Also, the ice maker makes ice but it does not dispense ice. The guy from Bush’s Appliance Repair came yesterday and said that he can’t see why it’s not dispensing ice. There was no ice in there so he couldn’t know whether it’s dispensing ice or not. But he defrosted it yesterday. When we woke up this morning, it was half a container of ice, which is fine. But when I tried to press the panel, I could hear the motor making a sound but no ice comes out.

The problem I have with them is when I’m speaking to someone on the phone, they’re talking to me like they are repairmen when they’re not. They are people that are aking information. So they should take the information and pass it on to somebody, and get somebody out that can do the job. With regards to the contractors, Big Bill’s fine and they were good. Bush’s Appliance Repair was good as well. But All Star Appliance was negative. I’m dissatisfied with the service that I received from All Star Appliance Repair. We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and the experiences with them have been fair. On the other issues that I had, they sent somebody out and we got it done but it’s always waiting for a part needed.

I've only been in this house two months now, and this is the first time I've had to use American Home Shield. I was having issues with the heating. A serviceman from All Temperature Heating & Cooling came out, and all it was is a five-minute fix. Whoever serviced it before we moved in had the furnace on pilot instead of fire, so all the serviceman did was click the switch to fire. Now we have heat, but I had to call back October 23rd because we can't turn the heat off. Looks like the thermostat and the furnace is not communicating.

I set up an appointment and I talked to the serviceman about what was going on. When he was here the first time, he did look at the thermostat, and he thought something might be wrong with it. I called and spoke to him on 25th. He said he was waiting for the thermostat. I called November 1st. I spoke to someone at American Home Shield who tried to reach him but couldn't, so she sent an email upstairs to contact people.

November 2nd, she said she was going to get back to me, and find out and give me some info, but no phone call. I called and it's the same thing. The rep could not get in touch with the company. He sent another email upstairs. November 6th, I called and spoke to the serviceman, who managed to get in touch with them all of a sudden, and they're waiting on another part. But he never told me this the first time. All he told me was the part on waiting on the thermostat.

I called All Temperature Heating & Cooling and at that time, their mailbox was full. I couldn't even leave a message. That was the same thing that happened when the other reps calls. Contractors should clear their voicemail, so you can leave a message. Also, I told John the contractor that he was better off. The day I talked to him on the 25th of October I told him to to go to Home Depot and get a thermostat. If that's what he think the problem is, and let them reimburse him when the part comes in.

The wait time is ridiculous when calling AHS. It's an hour, and within that hour, I got disconnected twice, so I had to call back. I got disconnected on their end, and I had to call back and wait another hour. I had to do that three times on November 6th, when I spoke to Jordan. I got a text from American Home Shield that the contractor would be contacting me within the next 24 hours. However, it's now November 10th, and I haven’t heard anything from anybody. For the mean time, I just keep turning the furnace on and off because that's what John told me to do.

If file a claim with AHS online, it's very simple and painless. But there are certain things that need to be addressed or if I have a question, I have to call and it's really excruciating. The minimum amount of time that I've spent on hold is 30 minutes. When I put in a claim to have an ice maker and wine fridges repaired, I didn't realize that it wasn’t covered. So, they referred the claim to a contractor and I paid the $75 service fee upfront. Then the people called to set up the appointment and I told them what the apparent issue was. The company that they referred didn’t repair wine fridges or freezer. It's a wrong company and they said I had to have AHS send somebody else out. So, I tried to go online to resubmit the request and their website wouldn’t let me do it.

I had to call and the first time, I was on hold for 50 minutes to get things done. When I got through, I was 75% done with the woman on the phone. She got all the information and had my phone number because she verified it, then my cellphone cut out and she never called back. I had to start the process all over the again and go on hold for 30 minutes. That's not fair and it's just something AHS need to work on. She should have called me back. Also, they never credited the service fee that I paid. I looked online and they told me that their records said the assignment was complete. But it wasn’t because nobody ever came out.

I tried to call again and they couldn’t get anything done. I called the company back and asked them to call AHS so, they called but nothing was done. Then next time, I was on hold for an hour to get things taken care of. It's ridiculous and the process was painful. I feel like after a couple of claims, I'm being rooted to hold the line where I just don’t want to even put in the claim. But recently, I had a claim for the pool heater that wasn't firing properly and I had a woman who helped me after I was on hold on the phone. I was trying to request a pool company that I know uses them and for some reason they were on hold with American Home Shield because they’ve been sent out in too many calls. So they try to give the job to other people to be fair. And this woman was really helpful. It's the process of getting through that is frustrating.

Other than that, I've gotten stuff taken care of and for the most part, it's been pretty good. The pool guy who came out was great and I even kept him to do non-covered work. Then when I moved in about a week after, a couple of the air conditioning units stopped working and AHS sent a guy who's very efficient and fixed them. I may have to call them again because I couldn’t fix a garage door myself. But I'll do it online because I don’t want to kill myself. 10 years ago, I had American Home Shield and I was very satisfied with them. I've never had this kind of difficulty last time so maybe they’ve just grown so big and need to hire some more people to man the phone.

My air-conditioning ductwork was leaking so I called and made a claim with American Home Shield. They were very helpful and they scheduled a service provider for me. However, the contractor was terrible. He put some glue on the ductwork and said he couldn't do anything else. I called American Home Shield and they brought him back. They had him look at it again and then he put more glue on it and when that didn't fix it, he said that he can't do anything for me. I kept telling American Home Shield that he can't fix it and they'd need to send out someone else. They sent somebody else and that person fixed it. The ductwork is working fine and American Home Shield was great.

American Home Shield sent a technician twice and the problem is still not fixed yet. My dishwasher had water lying in there, and my sink was throwing back the water in my dishwasher. My problem was that water stays there and it’s not draining, and it stinks after a couple of days. I first submitted a claim online, and then I phoned them. Apparently, nobody could pick up the phone first of all. You leave the number and somebody will call. So, they called me, they came, they said the problem is fixed. After a couple of days, it wasn’t fixed. I complained again. The problem is still there. I checked it last night, it was not draining properly. I just want to know what to do.

AHS should at least appreciate the business and try to call back, not just an automated system, and just don’t let a third party call us and then ask the problem. They should value our business and our hard-earned money. This is the worst thing I have ever heard of. It's my first experience, but I don’t think I’ll renew my contract with American Home Shield for the next time. I had HMS for the last three years and I had no issues. My friend recommended me to AHS, but I would probably be going back to HMS. Right now, I’m very disappointed.

We have three restrooms on the top floor and there was water coming down through the garage. We called American Home Shield and pinpointed that it was from one of the restrooms. When the contractor went in to the hatch up there, he found that the trap and the drain were loose. He thought that was the problem so he completely replaced that top to bottom. Then when it continued to drip the next day, he came back and found that condensation was created from that water dripping down the pipes and it deteriorated the coffer. He cut it out and went above and beyond for us. We were also very happy he came out the very next day when we determined it was not resolved.

We've filed three claims after having AHS for about a year and a half, and so far, they've done what they’re supposed to. In this day and age, that is positive in my opinion, especially when dealing with warranties and insurance. We've tried submitting a claim over the phone but we had to wait quite some time. So, we tried the online method and that was pretty effective. Going forward, that’s the method we’ll use. Also, the contractors they sent out have been great and made good follow up.

I claimed for the fixing of my garage door from American Home Shield. There was no problem in the submission of the claim using their website, and it was easy! However, I’m disappointed because I thought they would cover when the garage door doesn’t work. But, once the fixing company came over, and then they said they only cover for the electrical and not the spring, which was the one broken. Previously, I have already claimed for something else, which they didn’t cover as well. They said it’s covered but I had to repair the coil of my AC unit. I had to pay $1,300 or $1,400.

When it was starting to get colder, I tried to turn on the heater, and it just seemed to be blowing only cold air. So, we were worried that our heater was broken because our house inspector told us when he looked at the house when we bought it, that it was a rather old heater. So, we put in a claim with American Home Shield that it was broken, and it was easy to set up an appointment. Once they got here, they didn’t take long. Some guy came, and he was really nice and professional. It turned out that the nest thermostat that I had set up was wired wrong. So, the air conditioner was also turning on at the same time as the heater. The technician was able to identify the issue quickly and got it rewired correctly. So, everything worked out pretty quickly. Everything has been working great since. However, my wife is a little upset with AHS that our garage door isn’t covered, and we are wondering why. Other than that, we’re happy with them.

I've been with American Home Shield for many years. I renew my contract every year and if I have a problem, I call them. It was a couple of weeks ago on a Thursday that I noticed a problem with my toilet. I called American Home Shield that evening and the techs came the day after next. I also had a problem with my dryer. The techs came right away and they had to replace the part on the toilet, and I had to wait for them to do it which is why they’re coming today. It’s the same contractor they always send, and they tell me what's covered for the amount of money that I spend. They’re a very good company and they send out very good workmen.

I only have one problem and I've told American Home Shield about it. When you call, they prefer you do everything online because it’s easier. But I’m a senior citizen and I don’t do that. So when you call that you need a service or a repairman, your wait time is generally about an hour and I resent that. For the amount of money that I’m spending, I don’t want to wait an hour for somebody to answer the phone. I spoke to them about that and the girl said that they were opening a new call center in Phoenix. They have four call centers. This is either gonna be their fourth or their fifth, and their service is gonna be better. I've told them that if it doesn’t get better, I'm changing my company. I'm not gonna pay all that money and wait for somebody to answer the phone for an hour.

In fact, I'm getting ready to sell my home and move and I'm going to make sure that I get AHS for my home and purchase AHS for the next homeowner. I couldn't live without AHS and I make sure I use my services. If I need anything, it's never complicated. I love the promptness, expertise and the knowledge of the servicemen that they send out. The wait time is very, very short. Their process was simple, easy and straight to the point. All I do is pay my $75, they come out and they do everything. If you need something replaced, then they bring you a new one, you sign the papers and they're going home. They send the best technicians out, they do their thing and the experience was wonderful!

With respect to professionalism, they were quick, straight to the point and knowledgeable about whatever they're doing. One time, one contractor couldn't get an item fixed. He made sure that he called the head electrician, he came out, found the problem and got the job done. I've had them come out here on eight different occasions, from the plumbers to the electricians. As a matter of fact, I just had the electricians out here not even a month ago. They fixed the problem and they were in here less than five minutes. He found the problem so fast, he didn't have to cut the power off. I couldn't believe it! I love them and I'll always keep American Home Shield. In fact, I got them on speed dial on my phone. I’ve had two other companies come and tell me that I didn’t need a 3.5 ton. The technician and plumbers who came out were good but the back office at one of them was terrible. It wasn’t American Home Shield's fault but the plumber blamed it on them and they blamed it on the plumbing. My dryer that wasn’t working properly so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, you have to wait for 30, 40 minutes to ever get through to make a request if you can’t deal with them online. I certainly don’t like that aspect of it. But we’ve been with them for 30 years. We’re real estate brokers and we’ve recommended them dozens and dozens of times to our clients. But this last time was very nice. The Patterson people came out, analyzed the problem and they fixed it the next day. So far, their customer service has been fine. But they’re overstretched in terms of people answering phone calls, and I assume that’s why they're trying to force people online.

One time, we had them call out here because we had an instant hot that did not work about four months ago. They sent a guy out, he took pictures and he said, “We’ll get back to you.” Two days later I got a call from them saying they were denying the replacement of our instant hot because it did not have a filter. We bought this house 10 years ago and it’s the same filter we had as far as I know and everything was fine. So, I spent $500 to get a new thing and they had the plumber come out and do the service. I was not really happy about that but they would tell you that if you had to read the fine print, you have to have a filter on your instant hot. It was disappointing but we’ve been with them for 30 years on two different properties so they must be doing something right.

My AC keeps shutting off every year and it has something to do with the breaker. This year it didn't do it but it did in the past. I called AHS and the breaker was changed. The issue happened again after a year and without even figuring out what was wrong, the technician told me it must be the pests eating the wire and that was not covered. I questioned how they knew about that because they didn't even check it.

With the most recent claim, I came home from vacation and when I went upstairs I found that one of the pods connected to the AC was all iced up. I called in AHS and they sent me some guy. I changed the filter in the summertime but all the guy said was it was the filter and that I didn't change it. I told him I did but he said it looked like it was never changed for centuries. He was lying and didn't want to check it. He didn't want to do extra work. I told the guy it wasn't the filter and that the pipe needed to be fixed as it must have been leaking. I also found out that the rubber covering the pipe had broken down because of the frost.

The guy was very rude and said he was not going to fix any of that because it was cosmetic. He also told me that I was giving him attitude which I wasn't. It was just that he was not even fixing the problem. He almost hung up on me so I called AHS to report him and I was assigned to another company. The other company was better and the other guy taped up that pipe and clearly said the issue was not the filter. But he started selling me Freon and wanted $300. I stopped believing everybody. Also, this is not the first time with these people. Every time technicians come in, they don't want to fix the source of the problem and they just want to give you reasons why they don't want to do it. I've been with AHS for two years now and I can't wait until the contract ends.

Contacted AHS to create an order for our dishwasher (we just purchased a home) during the week of November 13th. Repair person was timely and polite, but indicated that he had attempted to find the same program board for our washer recently with no luck on another call. He stated he would have to report to AHS his findings and that AHS would look for the part. I did not hear from AHS for 4 days, so I decided to contact them. First, my contract is not searchable online. No matter what combination of information I type in, no contract found. This left me the only option of calling. I was on hold for 53 minutes (completely unacceptable) before reaching an agent who could not find my contract based on phone number or address - finally it was able to be located utilizing the contract number. (It’s notable that not even the contract number cannot be used to search when registering for an online account.)

So, she found my contract... Yay. She told me that the status needed to be updated and moved to purchasing. She said, helpfully, that she would call purchasing and then conference me in once she got through... 40 minutes later, she comes back on to give me the purchasing phone number so that I can call myself if I could not wait longer. I waited a few more minutes, then decided to just hang up. That was yesterday. Last night, I received an email stating that my order for work was complete and that if I had any further issues, I could report them through my online account (remember that I could not establish an online account.) This left me in the unenviable position of calling again... Uggh.

This time only 21 minutes from about 9 AM. The agent was helpful and she put me on the account as a contact... I guess I wasn't before. Not sure why the agent yesterday did not do that. So, in spite of my email indicating that my work was complete, today's agent told me that Purchasing would be buying a replacement washer because the parts weren't available for it. But... I need to contact purchasing in order to discuss the replacement. I fear another ridiculous hold time, plus, I'm not sure I'll have the answers for what type of replacement I should get. This has not been a great experience.

The guy who came originally didn’t change or put additional springs to make the balance inside of the washer. So, when it spins, it makes a lot of noise. So, the guys who came last week said they will be back, but they still didn’t call and didn’t come back. It’s Pro Appliance and I’m waiting for their phone call. I'm thinking if I should call them to remind them to come so it can be done.

So far, I’m happy with everything that Pro Appliance guys did, except that they're a little slow to come back and finish their work. Reviewed Nov. 22, 2017

We’ve had quite a few claims with American Home Shield and more often than not, it seems like we live outside of their normal coverage area. So anytime we have a claim, they typically don't find the vendor within 30 miles like they usually would do for a more urban area. The process takes a week or so because it has to go through an outside authorization department. And then, on our end, we have to find the vendor that will service our area. When that vendor comes to do the work, we have to phone up American Home Shield outside authorization department. They'd approve it and then we pay for that out of our pocket and get reimbursed within a month. It’s not the most convenient thing, but it is a work around and the service has been sufficient enough for us to feel confident in renewing our coverage.

The warranty was supposed to cover all components including a central vacuum system because it was written in the contract as an included component in the home. However, when I went to go put in a service request, I was told that they no longer service it. They had changed the term of the coverage after I purchased it. So, that was an out of pocket expense I wasn’t expecting.

I also had one service request where I had paid the contractor directly. It was when there was a transition between the contractors receiving the service fee from the customer and American Home Shield just taking it up front. I had AHS calling me for a month and sending me letters saying I hadn’t paid the service fee and I’m like, “I paid the contractor.” So, there was a little bit of a mix-up there. I had to provide them copies by faxing a statement showing “cleared” which was better than whatever they were threatening to do like cancel my warranty because I’d hate it.

Recently, we submitted a claim for our water heater. I went with the company that I knew so I'd know what to expect. They have a good work ethic and have done a good job. So, I’m pleased that I got here the contractor that I wanted. As annoying as the outside authorization thing was, it actually worked in my favor at that point. However, although we’re not used to things being done overnight as we're a little bit rural, it would have saved with the water heater if they expedited it. It took about a week and so we knew that if we wanted it fixed quicker, we would just not use the warranty. But we felt that the home warranty protected us because we're not a whole lot of do-it-yourself people. It paid for itself the first year so it was a good investment for us.

However, they could have kept better record on our end as far as noting that our location is rural and that nearly every service request we put in is going to have to have outside authorization. But it seemed like there was a bit of hold-up as far as that goes because they had to go through their own protocol. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any skipping that step which felt like a waste of time and was irritating for us and for the people taking our call because they had no way to bypass it. They had to go through the steps knowing ahead of time that it’s not going to produce any positive result.

They asked me if I needed it right away but it's not like a leaking pipe or a broken pool so a couple of days was not a big deal. The contractors I've seen personally were mostly from Russia. They didn't really know what they're doing and were probably overqualified with what they do. But they've all been very nice and very good. They fixed the problem quickly and efficiently.

I also had a swimming pool problem about a year ago. The filter housing's in two pieces, and the bottom half broke. The rep had to buy both pieces, but he could only give me the bottom piece. I thought that was stupid because the top piece was going to break next. It just seemed like they get a little cheap on what they qualify for repair sometimes, but that's probably part of their business plan. My only major complaint is that the deductible's too high. Even higher than other companies but that's what I signed on for.

I just had a stopped up drain and I called American Home Shield. The contractor they sent out was great. He was very extremely prompt. He came out that day and I live out in the country so that’s really unusual. Plus he was very friendly and he got right to the problem, got it fixed and was through. Probably he was in here twenty minutes. The issue was fixed within four hours that I submitted the claim. That was the quickest I’ve ever had one and I’ve never have one real slow. Things go smooth when I file a claim with American Home Shield. They’ve just always been very, very helpful and the people they’ve all sent out have been very good so I’m very happy with them.

I had a claim to check my range oven, and called American Home Shield. It wasn't difficult to do, but the calling time and the wait with customer service is so long. It's not a 10 minute wait, and they keep saying your wait is going to be 15 minutes and it turns out to be 20 and 30 minutes. You just can't hold on the phone that long. But once I was put through customer service, the individual that I spoke to was pleasant and was really concerned about my claim. The rep was willing to take care of it and they did that day. They got the information that I needed and they called and set up for the gentleman to come out for the services. So, everything went fine.

My range has not been repaired, but they're going to replace it. It has been placed on order and right now, we're just waiting for the range to come in. But I'm still well pleased with American Home Shield. Everyone that I've spoken with are really pleasant, and they're really professional with their job. If there's something that they don’t know, they'll put me on hold and work on trying to find an answer for me and come right back and let me know. And I appreciate that. I woould recommend it.

We had a leaky kitchen sink faucet so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. But it was super difficult to do it on the phone. I can't get ahold of anybody on the phone at all. It would be really nice if their hold times weren't an hour. But it was not too bad doing it online. Their contractor was great. Apparently, there was something wrong with the sink that was a warranty part. He gave me some tips on how to deal with the manufacturer to get a replacement part because we're not the original homeowners. He also said that because it's a warranty item, he can't order it and replace it, but he was able to do something to temporarily fix it for us. To me, I felt like he went above and beyond what he needed to do because if it's a warranty part and he's saying he can't replace it, then he could’ve just left at that point and said, “Sorry. I can't help you.” But at least getting the leak stopped was a big deal for us, so we were happy with him.

I called American Home Shield and the reps were very helpful once I explained my situation. They sent Eastern Air Control who I feel ripped me off because they didn't fix it. They didn't replace anything and I wounded up having the subsequent leak once again. I tried reaching Eastern Air Control after they hadn't repaired or replaced what they were supposed to do. I wasn't able to get through to them and I made a complaint to American Home Shield. My wife is sick and I really couldn't have this constant going back and forth. They sent another company out, Liberty Heating and Air Conditioning, and they took care of it. The AC is better than before and they did a great job. I recommend AHS.

My mother-in-law was with AHS before me and I just renewed the contract when I took over about five years ago. Altogether, we've been with the company for about 15 years. Some of the contractors were really good but some of them didn't really want to be there and they said AHS didn't pay them. My mom said American Home Shield was the worst to work for. Right now, I'm really not happy with AHS. I'm waiting for the end of this month and I may cancel with them. I pay $50 dollars a month and I had hardly ever used them except for this year. I used them for three different things.

I called AHS twice for a plumber and he had to be over twice until it worked. Once I filed a claim for a water heater and that was denied because of the sediments. But what do I know about sediments? And that was why I insured it. When my refrigerator broke, that took a long time too. AHS had four different companies come and look at it. One guy who came didn't even look at it. I told him what had happened and hat he was the fourth guy here. I asked if he could tell me what was wrong and he said that it didn't make sense for him to look at it.

The contractors all told AHS that they couldn't fix it and it took AHS about two months until they decided to replace it, during which I was without a fridge. It was so frustrating and it was so hard. Some people were very nice over there and some people were very mean. In the end, they took care of it. But I had a mess in my kitchen because I was living out of ice chests. One of the ladies that I talked to at the end was really sweet though. She was the one that made things happen because they were trying not to replace the fridge.

I had six contracts with AHS for several of the properties that I have. I also purchased the additional coverage for the hot water tank where if I need to bring it up to code, they will cover all of that. When I kept getting repeated denials for plumbing, I cancelled all of my contracts with them. Even when I would say that I have that extra coverage, they told me my claims were still not covered. So I’m better off not having AHS.

When I called them to submit my claims, their reps were very nice. In fact, they call me all the time telling me that they noticed my contract's getting ready to expire or has expired so they ask if they could offer me a discount to come back to them but I told them no. As for the contractors they sent, I believed them when they came out and said what the property needed. But I had it with AHS for nine years on all of the properties and they should really think about the claim that they are handling. I feel that now, it’s harder and harder for them to approve anything. The wait time to get a contractor out was longer, too. After I call them, I have to get authorization from AHS, then they come out. It was easier for me to call a standard plumber and ask him if he could come fix the problem. Also, since I have a renter, it’s cheaper if I call a plumber out for $200 then make the renter go into a hotel for two nights.

I called up AHS right away and they told us that they'll change the contractor and that they'll review his status as their vendor since it was not the first time that they have gotten complaints about him.

I was extremely happy that they listened. They then sent me another gentleman within the same time period. He came out the same day that I called. He was very friendly and I was pleased with him. He told me that I didn't really have to submit a claim for it and that I can do it by myself. He showed me why the unit wasn't draining and took time to explain how to do maintenance on the part that was giving us a problem. It's easy to call in a claim instead of going on the computer and doing it. And somebody’s usually here within at least two days. But when the contractors get out here sometimes there’s extra fees and they should explain that in their ad when they advertise them on TV.

They tell me I need to get a text. They let me know who’s going to be coming out then they call right away. They usually wait until it’s Monday through Friday because everything usually happens on the weekends. But the contractors have all been nice. They’re friendly and easy to talk to. I would recommend them. AHS keep in contact with you. They still send me texts telling me that this plumbing company is going to be contacting me and then they do and then they’ll say, “How was your experience with them?” It’s like everyday I hear from them until everything was completed.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was a water or sewer pipe leakage because of cracking in a wall. I called them to have them come out and investigate. The first guy they sent out didn’t do a thing and the second guy said he could not do what he thought needed to be done. He looked at what he thought might be leaking but there was no exterior water of any sort. And so, he recommended to pop up tiles, do a moisture inspection on the concrete, open up walls in the bathroom to see if the pipes were leaking and take videos down the sewer lines, so that he could see if there were any pipes but it was rejected by AHS because there was no visible water.

What I always thought about American Home Shield was that if it’s not a broken refrigerator or an air conditioner that went out, they're not going to deal with it. And they proved me right. Having this foundation issue was a fish out of water and it seemed like they didn’t know how to handle it. Also, the customer service rep was not very accommodating. She was pretty matter-of-fact about the whole thing and didn’t really care to have me walk through the whole thing. And so, I had to contact the contractor because she told me that the contractor wrote that he did not find anything which wasn't what he told me verbally. So, I followed back up and the guy said that what he wrote was what he recommended for us to do. I even have the sheet that he came out with.

I did not request that the cracks be fixed as of yet, because I didn’t want to do anything till I knew what was going on. And so, I took it upon myself and hired somebody to do the video inspection which cost me $350. I had them check if the foundation has moved in the last three years and it has not. So it's not from foundation movement or water moisture. They found out that the wall lost its air gap at the top and so as it expands and contracts, the crack appears. And so the way to relieve it is to put spacers between the top plate and the ceiling of the non-bearing wall.

Overall, the AHS rep that I talked to had no compassion or empathy to my problem. But from the standpoint of the vendors that they sent out and the communication they had with me, that all went really good. I can go online and put a thing in or I can call them. Their vendors got right back to me, trying to set up an appointment.

Two months ago, the temperature was in the mid-90s out here but the AC wasn’t keeping up. It was running about five degrees below what the thermostat was set on. Then, they came out and diagnosed that the condenser core was bad. AHS ended up replacing the whole outside AC unit. The guys that came out did a great job. We changed seasons so I don't know how well the unit works until probably March of next year.

The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is the amount of time that it took to get through to talk to someone in service but totally understandable with the hurricane in Mississippi and Florida. But besides that, the service and the call back from the reps has been phenomenal. I would definitely recommend AHS to a friend. With them, my house is still up for sale. After giving her my credit card info and thinking things were all set she called back to say that there was an error and I no longer qualified for a renewal. I was in a different category and would have to pay a higher rate. I asked for supervisor who explained to me that the Legal Department had reviewed my policy and said I had used too much service. I could get a new policy but it would be more than double the $571!

I think that is outrageous on the part of AHS. I have been with them 9 years and have never had any complaints about using too much service. I am conservative trying to fix things myself first but before I absolutely must call AHS. I also think they pulled a bait and switch telling me I had a renewal policy only to cancel it. The supervisor said that she would email the Legal Department but doubted that it would do any good. No other recourse was given.

I input a request for service on a failed Hot Water Heater (HWH) ---- water all over floor; leaking out of bottom on HWH ---nothing coming out of the Heat Relief Valve. It is gone! They said they'd assign someone to it within a few minutes. They did, the company called and said they'd be out tomorrow, to evaluate the HWH. If it was "found" to be faulty; then they'd call American Home Shield (AHS) who would ship a HWH from their warehouse (location unknown) to me, and they'd come back and install it. In the past, they'd simply call AHS to report it faulty, and put in a HWH they had on the truck.

This saves AHS a few bucks---they buy a bunch of HWHs cheaply---and then ship them out to be replaced and they save a few dollars. IT IS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Thursday is Thanksgiving; nothing is going to ship nor be delivered on Thanksgiving. Nor is a plumber going to install anything on a holiday. So we are going to be out of hot water for at least four or seven days. Over a holiday weekend! With guests in the house, a dinner to cook, and nowhere to take showers or wash dishes.

I called and talked to "Shelly" in their Service Support office. After waiting 51 minutes to reach Customer Service. She said, "Yes, that is how we do it now. Read the contract." The contract was changed a month ago according to the plumbing company. Obviously, I didn't know it changed as I expected service today or tomorrow. I asked to speak to her manager, who Shelly told me is off for the holiday, and won't be back until Monday. A "Kamaira" who doesn't have a next up in line manager (according to Shelly). This company wants your money for providing service and protection. But they sure don't want to actually provide it!

I used them on another property, a rental one, and the bad experience that I had was that they quoted me to do all this work. They asked me some information and they said, "We've got you approved for $8,500." I said, "Well, give the paperwork because I'm trying to do something else right now. " I'm trying to get a home improvement loan and I said, "I don't want to mess up my credit and have too many nicks on it."

The next thing I know, I get a credit card from the bank where I owed them $8,500. And I never even had the work done. So, I took it back to the bank and I told them. And they said, "Well, we didn't issue it, but this company had set up where they run credit through us." So, they canceled the credit card. I said, "Here's the paperwork. I never filled it out, I never signed it." When I called to request service, I told them I did not want them to come. I wanted another company to come. The contractor that we have now is very good and I use them now for both properties. The good thing about AHS is that you can talk to them, you can let them know if you're happy or unhappy with someone that they recommended. And then they can find somebody else for you.

He was supposed to try and locate the source of a water leak but as far as I’m concerned, he has done some damage to my property which was more than what I would consider necessary. Instead of doing a routine problem-solving expedition, he took a saw to a number of different locations in my home and cut about six-inch holes in my drywall. Now the wall needs to be re-sheeted entirely and it’s going to cost a significant amount of money to repair the damage. I’m still in the process of trying to get it fixed but American Home Shield is less than willing to cover the cost. I've been with them for three months and this is my first interaction with them. The tech that AHS sent was very good to come out very quick and told me our plug wasn't screwed in the wires correctly and I could've had a really bad fire. This was poor workmanship for a brand new house. The other claim was for a plumbing issue. I had a leak in one of the pipes outside of the garage and it was starting to go on the drywall. The guy who came out was wonderful and did a great job but AHS couldn't get anybody out for over a week. I took a day off when the tech was coming and I got a call from the dispatcher and I was asked if it was okay if we reschedule. I thought I was going to blow veins. The tech was stuck on another job and came after hours, which I had to give him a lot of credit for that. He was so sweet, helpful, and apologetic. It was not his fault. They just didn't have enough people in the area.

I tried calling AHS and the hour and 45-minute wait was ridiculous. So I left an email but nobody ever responded to it. They should get back to you if you're trying to call or email them. The plumbing issue can damage the house and can cost so much money. And when you're a single person and you have a house, a woman especially, you have to have a home warranty because I don't know who to call. The service people were great.

I had a very negative experience with American Home Shield. I had paid this insurance for over 10 years and only did one claim in Chicago that I have to fight to get paid. A pot in the broiler broke and it was in the middle of winter and this was a couple of years ago. They told me they found a company 30 days later. I was calling the company, getting work with the type of heating that we have. Then, that's when I learned that when I call them, they put a claim, they assign the contractor and the provider, then the provider calls me and then I pay the $75, and before the job is done, they have to approve it. I'm a disabled person and I needed the heat, but the company never came through.

So, between four and a half days without heat, I called them to say that I had gotten a company to fix it. They told me that they won't approve it because that company doesn't work for them. I told them that I didn't care what they're approving or not because I needed the heat. I told them all of that but they didn't cancel the insurance. And at least, I got part of the money back.

The second claim that I put was in the new house that we purchased. We were moving things to the house and we accidentally pushed furniture because the thermostat was in the middle of the wall. We accidentally knocked out the thermostat that affected the air conditioning. Then, I called the insurance. They had found me a company, Air Bus Mechanical, LLC. They didn’t call me but I called them because I was the one in need.

The gentleman came and we informed him what had happened, saying it was an accident. He said that he can’t fix the air conditioning without the thermostat. I told them that I have respiratory problems and that I need air. So the gentleman said he’ll be back that afternoon and will call before he comes but they never called back. So, I called the next day just saying what happened, that the person never called me and we still have the issue. Then I called American Home Shield and found out that the claim was denied because it was not normal wear and tear.

After paying for so many years, with only two claims and getting trouble with both of them, I would not recommend AHS to anyone. I called and told them that I wanted to cancel my insurance. They canceled it and never called me back about anything. My last payment was on the 28th of October because I pay at the end of the month. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield.

Submitting the claim was very easy. I used the automated service so it scheduled everything and there were no problems at all. The contractor AJ was very, very, nice. He let me know he was on the way and that helped a lot because I was running all over the place. There was a problem with my toilet. One was leaking and one would flush but it wouldn’t shut off and then they came to check on that. They gave me a window of time and he was there. He arrived before the time was up. He fixed the toilet but the very next day I had to call back because the hot water tank was leaking. He told me he would have to do some ordering things for the hot water tank and they would let me know when those things are in. They have been in contact with me since then and said that the parts have been ordered. Everything was fine.

I had AHS come out regarding a furnace that was not working. It was a new issue on a new home I purchased. I tried submitting the claim online but I had additional questions and I wanted clarifications. I had multiple issues and they kind of cancelled each other out that selecting one issue would not allow me to select another issue. So I ended up calling. I talked with a live person and their representative was knowledgeable and efficient.

The contractor came out once here too but the most recent one was regarding the furnace. He called beforehand and was very timely. When he got here, he explained what he was doing, let me know what the issue was, then said he would be getting in contact with me once he submitted the work order. The appointment happened early in the morning. I was expecting a call either at the end of the day or that morning to of let me know what the determination was, but I had to call back to find out what the outcome was.

The problem's still unresolved as of right now and the holdup involves the mortgage company. What happened was when I purchased the home, I had the inspections and when they came out for American Home Shield, they advised that the gas company tagged the line that the furnace was inoperable prior to me closing on the home. I'm not sure if it wasn’t repaired or if it wasn’t repaired properly, but whatever date was stated on that notice predated my closing date, so AHS said that they couldn’t cover its repair. I'm going to have to repair it then go back and forth with the mortgage company. With the weather getting a little bit colder, I know the amount of time this is going to take. If at all possible and if I can even be reimbursed, I'm going to try to go that route where I know I'm going to have to fix this myself. So the outcome was unfavorable but I had a pleasant experience with AHS. My claim was handled well and I would still recommend them.

And within an hour, the repair guy from Sparks Plumbing called me and he was out here to save the day. He was very professional, really quick to get here and was able to get everything fixed. The contractor was very knowledgeable and kept me informed of what he was doing. He told me that they had to order the part that they need from the factory so they could make it for my unit and it normally takes two to three weeks. It took three weeks but as soon as they got the part, they called me, came out and fixed everything. The unit worked 100%. It would have torn up completely my outdoor condensing unit and affected everything had they not fixed it right away. Everything went smoothly this time and I appreciate it. We had a toilet that was not flushing correctly and we had a faucet that was leaking so I phoned AHS. I had a good experience with both the rep and the contractor. The toilet is working fine now but the sink faucet still has a little bit of spraying coming out on the side. It's a different problem than what I had before though. I didn’t have enough pressure then but the contractor fixed that.

That aside though, American Home Shield has areas to improve on in their process. We had two plumbing issues at the same time and the plumber could have made it in one service call as long as he knew that we had those two issues because whenever they come, they know in advance what the problems are. The way that it's handled on the computer or over the phone, you can only report that you have a claim for a faucet or a toilet. You can't say faucet and toilet.

They will not allow you to make two claims simultaneously and that’s a problem with the system because ultimately it'll costs American Home Shield more money to have multiple problems taken care of separately than it would to take care of them at the same time if it's the same contractor. What they should have when you make a plumbing claim and you click the box, there should be another box that comes up. Once you selected a specific type of claim, they don’t ask if that is the only plumbing problem you have or if you have other plumbing problems as well.

What theoretically happens is Home Shield ends up having to pay two separate visits rather than just one. Granted I would have to pay a deductible each time, it would make me angry at them that I couldn’t take care of both the claims at the same and that makes the customer dissatisfied. It's also possible that if you make two separate claims that one claim could get right to one contractor and another one could be routed to a different contractor even though it's the same type of claim.

In order to minimize the amount of outgoing claims money that you pay, you don’t want to encourage people to come up with new claims. You don’t want to have one box that says plumbing claim #1, plumbing claim #2. Otherwise, people will start thinking about a lot of stuff. After you’ve already committed to saying you have a plumbing claim, it makes sense to ask if there are any other plumbing issues because that way you at least know that there's one contractor and one service call because it tells the contractor what the problems are.

It's the same contractor that gets the claim that says toilet and faucet are both bad then they know to bring parts for them. You don’t want two different plumbers to come in because you're going to end up doubling the cost that American Home Shield pays and we're going to be mad about having to pay two $100 deductibles when we could have done it with just one $100 deductible. But AHS is not identifying the opportunity to make a second issue at the same time during the claims process because by adding that one extra question they probably could end up saving themselves some money.

I have owned 15 houses that I've had American Home Shield warranties on a dozen of them over 34 years. They have the data and they could easily do a test to see if they end up paying out more money one way or the other. All it is is math and statistics and keeping track of the data. But they have no way of knowing how much money they could save by making one contractor handle two problems at the same time. They're going to get better customer loyalty and a contractor can oftentimes do a toilet and a sink in less than an hour.

It's very frustrating as a customer to use the automated systems then go back in and have to call and find out I have another matter and wanting the same contractor because it happens to be two different plumbing issues. What I end up having to do as a customer is to work it out with whichever contractor calls me first and that’s what had happened to me before. I tell that contractor that I have two problems and I'd like them to handle both of them. And they’ll say to call American Home Shield and cancel the other claim and tell them that I want the second claim on the name of that particular contractor. It ends up costing AHS money to have live operators as opposed to the telephone and the computers.

At one point in time, we also owned another policy with Home Warranty of America and they had slightly better contractors for the most part than American Home Shield. But I went back with American Home Shield because Home Warranty of America's premium was too high. Right now, I own five homes and I've got American Home Shield policies on two of them and I sometimes pay for the policies under different people’s names because I've got runners in different homes.

I submitted online and then once they start working, they called me. They have good customer service. However, there's a disconnect between the contractors and American Home Shield. I scheduled an appointment and then the company calls me to tell me they can't make it. I've already taken a day off and spent the day at home waiting for them to call me and then they said they can't make it because their technician had an emergency or there was something that might have been more priority to them. At that point, there's no benefit to me. I've already lost a day at work.

AHS was able to send a new contractor but it was in two days later. They should know what their contractors are doing. If I have the option and if it continued to happen this way, and AHS is not tracking what their contractors do, then I would be willing to go to another company. But as far as if what they repaired is working, it works and I'm happy with that. AHS came through for me every time I needed them and I'd recommend them.

I get my heating system checked twice a year -- once for air and once for heat. The guy who came, who I've had service from, checked the heating on one of my units. It was running before he stopped it and did the checks. When he tried to start it up again it would not start up. He checked everything and he saw that it was the gas valve. I asked him what was going to happen and he told me that I was going to pay for service. He then left to go and check and see if they had a partner with a special order price. After two hours he didn’t come back so I called to find out what was going on. He told me it was a special order price and he had to order the part. I told him that would have been nice if he had told me and that this is not needed to be just hanging out.

While the contractor was here I called American Home Shield and they told me that they would set up an appointment so that somebody can come and look at the unit. I then set the appointment up for that Wednesday. When the other company called back they told me that the part wouldn't come in until Thursday so I told them that they can come on Thursday.

Meanwhile the guy that AHS sent came that Wednesday and checked the unit. He told me that the gas valve was bad and that they have the part in their truck since my unit was a Goodman and it uses a standard valve. He then installed the valve and I was very impressed and satisfied. AHS found a person who knew what he was doing, found the problem, fixed it and when he left the ac was already working. He was efficient and on time. When the other guys called that day I told them that I don't need them to come back because they were going to charge me a lot and that I found somebody who tells me the truth and treats me like a customer.

Submitting a claim can’t be any easier. I've done it by phone but I do it online most of the time. The representatives are very professional and the wait time is not long. They’ll say eight minutes and a minute later they come on. My contractors have been very professional and very pleasant. The last one even remembered my name from visit to visit.

When I just moved into my little doll house on the island my air conditioner went out and American Home Shield came out and replaced it. The sad part was it was a one-SEER air conditioner and they weren’t authorized to go any higher. But a one-SEER was no longer made so I got a two or three-SEER. It wasn’t what I would have put in myself. That was my first experience. But I still got a new air conditioner and I’m pleased with American Home Shield.

We also had a bad dishwasher motherboard diagnosed and it took a while to get the motherboard. The serviceman took a couple of days to come out, came out, discovered the motherboard wasn’t it and that the entire electrical system is shut. Then I went online and American Home Shield was very helpful and they ordered me a GE dishwasher with stainless steel top and a white front with controls on the front just like I have. I haven’t been contacted by the new installer yet but American Home Shield said probably late next week. I recommend AHS. My daughter thinks it’s a waste of time because she said, “Mother you’re just paying all year upfront whether you use it or not.” And I said, “Yeah, but when I needed it, it saved me a hell of a lot more than $480.”

We had a garage door repair and prior to that, we had claims for our microwave and dishwasher, four times. We do our claim filing online but for the dishwasher and the microwave, I did it over the phone because I was having some issue with putting the claim.

Also, the first contractor was pretty horrible. When he was repairing the dishwasher, he couldn't figure out the parts so he came back a second time. But when I came home, the things were still not working so I checked the dishwasher part and put it all back together the right way for him. And then for the microwave, he had to do six different visits. Each time, he said that a different part was bad. So we asked AHS to send out another contractor and we filed a complaint and did a review on the guy. The second guy who came out just opened up the microwave, told us something was in the wrong spot, plugged something else in the right way and it worked fine. Other than that, I have been pretty happy with my service overall.

The best part about American Home Shield was I submitted the claim on a Wednesday and the man was here on a Thursday. It was super fast and I didn’t even wait 24-hours.

The guy that they sent here was awesome and very personable. He told me every step of everything he was going to do, what was wrong and what he was going to do to resolve it. His knowledge was triple A plus and he had it fixed in 20 minutes. Then I paid him my fee and that was it. The unit works perfectly now and it's heating when it needs to. We’re in Georgia so some days we need heat but some days we need air.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield online because we were having issues with our air conditioner and it was very easy. We did it very early in the morning but they were very responsive. We got a text confirmation that they'll be sending somebody out from a certain vendor within two hours. A tech from a local AC repair shop came on the same day but he was to remake a repair about three days later. He told us at that time that the part would need to be brand specific because he wasn't sure if the board would run the heater if it was a universal. But when he came back, he said that he had brought the universal because he had been told that it would run the heater as well. He replaced it and the AC started to work.

When we had to turn on the heater a day later, the heater stopped working. We called American Home Shield back out and they said we were within the recall period so they didn't charge us another fee. However, the tech determined that another part is broken and needs to be fixed. American Home Shield said that they'll replace that part but there's $1,500 worth of non-covered pieces that we'll need to take care of. We're currently speaking with American Home Shield and the vendor to try and figure out if all of those parts are necessary because my husband is familiar with some of the parts and he said that they're still in good condition.

However, from when they called to notify us that there would be some uncovered expenses, they did list everything off but they've told us that they cannot provide us an email copy of the list of all the parts and their prices. The first person whom I spoke to said that they would email it to me but when I called back when I didn't receive it, the other person said that they can't send it to me. They've also told us that they cannot furnish us the prices of the parts and the heat exchanger that the vendor has said were needed to be replaced. When I spoke with the vendor, they confirmed that per their contract, they're not allowed to tell us how much it cost so I'd like a little more transparency there just in terms of the cost but other than that, it's fine.

I put in a work order for some plumbing to be done. A plumber came out and said he fixed it, but he didn’t. I called American Home Shield back and the guy wanted to get crappy with me on the phone and told me that I would have to pay another $75 to have somebody else come out. I told him I wasn’t paying it! The same guy who came out the first time came out the second time and he accused me of doing something to his work to make it start leaking again. He had a cocky attitude and he didn’t even look at anything. He had to replace a spigot and he had to replace three parts on the other sink, yet he got on the phone and called American Home Shield and said it wasn’t even leaking. This scammer was from North Texas plumbing and I had put in a complaint about him with Austin and under no circumstances are they permitted at my house again. I've talked to people that live around me who said the same thing about North Texas.

I was upset with both the American Home Shield rep who argued with me and the first contractor who said everything was fixed. I called American Home Shield back and the guy that I talked to wanted to give me the runaround and told me that I would have to pay for a different company to come out and I told them no. They sent another company out here, and this time, the guy was from Westside Plumbing. That company is awesome and I highly recommend him. He had to go and buy a spigot and he was here at 8:00 the next morning putting a new faucet in my sink. He was mad and he said it wasn’t the first time he had to go behind North Texas Plumbing because their work was not complete. I was not happy with my overall experience with American Home Shield.

We had a plumbing issue, and we couldn’t use the showers or the toilets in our house. I called American Home Shield and I could not get through on the phone. The wait time was over 30 or 40 minutes. It was incredibly long. So, I went through my past emails, and I was able to find some information about getting online. And I was able to get online and post a request through the online portal. Then they gave me an option to pay right then for the certain call or you can wait until after the service technician has come out to visit you. I chose to wait until after the technicians came out to visit me. I sent in a request late in the day, and the technician called me that night. And they were able to come out the next day and help us with our problem.

The contractor was wonderful. They were very nice, very friendly, very professional, and on time. Originally they were going to schedule two days out but I pleaded with them to come out the next day. They worked with me on that and they came out the next morning. And they sent me a text early in the morning with the window time that they'll come and they were there. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield.

Submitting an online claim was okay, but when you call them you will on hold for an hour and a half. There were times when we had to talk to a live person and that was hard. They were very apologetic, but the wait is frustrating. The contractor came out for the initial diagnostic on my refrigerator and they were good!

They sent people to fix my dryer last Friday, and at that point, it was still working. They came to replace the motherboard, and evidently made it worse because now, it’s not working at all. So, I spoke to AHS, and they were pleasant and eager to get the issue resolved. So, now they’re back to work on it.

This contractor’s been good. But I’ve had someone horrible come up before, and AHS had to send someone else. I've had this paperwork. But the contractor came out and basically told me that there was nothing that he could do. And then, whenever I called back to speak with a representative, they called him, and once the representative talked to him, she saw his attitude for herself. So, she was the one who suggested that they just contact another contractor. And I said that I was on board with that because I'd rather not even deal with him. And she said, "I can see why you would say that." So, she got someone else out within a couple of days, and they took care of it. It was easy-breezy from there. AHS is definitely good to have, and I have recommended them. It’s better that having to go out and purchase things, and you’ll never know how good it is until you actually need it.

The microwave oven recently quit working and the techs sent by American Home Shield came out and looked at it, and figured out what's wrong with it. Then, they came out again after they got the parts and put it back together, hung it back above the stove. I paid them $75 and they left. They did a good job and they knew what they're doing, and that's what's important to me. They didn't have to guess about it. Now the oven's working really well.

However, American Home Shield had explained to me on the phone that I would have to send the check to them. Then, the day of the service, the lady from American Home Shield called us and said I had to pay the techs. I said that I was told not to, but now she's saying I had to. They said they're changing their policy and apparently, the day after I had to get a hold of them to complain, I had a two-hour wait on the phone. I have talked to people there four times, and they have not fixed it yet. I'm getting upset about it because I did pay and I got proof. It's just $75 but that's a shame 'cause it's not necessary. But they've done really well for us. We've been with them for 15 years with every problem we've ever had, and they've done everything that I needed done and I like them. This unfortunate thing that's going on is a mix-up in their policy. I'm sure that eventually they'll get it fixed.

I've been with American Home Shield since April. In October, my refrigerator was making a funny noise and going out, so I called AHS and submitted a claim. They called me back, then they texted to me the number of the contractor that they were sending out. The contractor was very courteous and knowledgeable. I called the contractor and they got the information on the problem. They said that they would try to send someone out the same day, if possible, and that the guy would call before he comes late in the afternoon. Just like they said, the guy called before he came and he got here at 5:00 PM. He checked the refrigerator and he said that the compressor was going out and that it could last a day and may be gone by tomorrow. Then he said that he was going to contact me.

A couple of days later, someone contacted me and told me what was going on. AHS replaced my refrigerator and the replacement ref is doing good. I have an Amana ref now and it is smaller inside than the LG ref I had before. The only thing is that the Amana ref has its icemaker sitting inside the ref, so it takes a lot of space. But other than that, the ref works good and we get cold water every time.

I had a policy with Choice Home Warranty before, but I was not pleased with them at all. On the other hand, I've had very good service from AHS and I'd recommend them to anyone. I've passed on the number of AHS to my parents who had another home warranty company that they weren't pleased with and I've also passed it on to several people in the company that we work with. AHS is a great company to work with.

I spent hours on the phone and I was disconnected multiple times when I tried to submit a claim with AHS. It was very difficult so I finally went online and made the appointment. It was a plumbing issue that I had to turn off all the water in the house, so it was a major inconvenience. I had to go to a hotel and when I filed my claim, it was Thursday so the techs weren't able to come out until Monday. When they came out Monday, American Home Shield called me up. They said that the issue was outside in my yard and since it's not inside the house, they wouldn't cover it. That was very frustrating and very upsetting. The kind and location of the plumbing issue should have been part of the questions when the appointment was made. If they asked for those details and I knew they won't cover the repair, I could’ve already had another plumber out here at that time. I also spent days in a hotel for nothing.

I'm a master in many categories of being a man, but one thing I didn't know was about the air conditioning. The air conditioner wasn't broke but there's a water thing inside the tube that was clogged in the drain. It was not working and it was going on and off. It was a problem because I have eight kids at home and we've been burning up. My wife called American Home Shield and they taught her how to file a claim online. Then she got a callback about the appointment a few days later and the guy showed up a week after. It took AHS about 2 weeks to do the service appointment and that's a part we were a little upset about.

The guy who came was the best. He was awesome, had a great demeanor, personality and his vibe was really good. He was honestly there to try to help. He went in there with vacuum cleaners and when he pulled the cover off of the air conditioning unit, he saw that two wires were black like they were burning up so he replaced those. But the two wires is not why the air-conditioning wasn't working, so he did what he did and put covers back on and left our place clean. The air conditioner started working again and it was better than before. It was a blessing and we’re happy. I'm a car salesman and I've actually recommended AHS to my customers.

I had an electrical issue where the dryer wouldn’t dry, and the guy from Frank’s Electric, the company that American Home Shield used, did an exceptionally good job. He had two intermittent problems that he had to figure out, so he had to spend a bunch of time doing the testing to figure it out. At first, he thought it was the dryer, and then he had to isolate over and above one connection to two connections. One, being the breaker and the panel box, and the other, the electrical connection that the dryer plugs into. Normally these things are either hot or not. But this was intermittent, so trying to diagnose it was pretty difficult.

What I don’t like, however, is that originally, when I submit a claim, I first get someone out here, and then I pay them $75. That was what they told me in the contract. Now, all of a sudden, they said that I couldn’t do that anymore, and had to put my credit card on their website so they charge it automatically. I don’t keep my credit online. So, having my information sitting there is just another vulnerable thing on the web, and I don’t particularly like it. There’s also slowness in some of the contractors getting out there, which I don’t think AHS controls. I once had a plumbing issue where I had to call them a couple times, which cost $75 a pop, and then it took four days before they got out here. And nobody came back to me and say sorry that it took them four days.

Eventually, I had to go out and dig up the line where it connected to the city sewer. Then I called to talk to a guy, and they tell me that they don’t pay for that. I pulled up the contract, and it does say that. So, it was my fault that I didn’t read it deep enough when I signed up. I got it now and learned my lesson, but it cost me $1200. Overall, my experience with AHS was sometimes good, and sometimes, it was bad. They are a victim of the people they use, so they could use somebody else.

Several weeks ago, I went to turn on my heat and it didn’t work. We had just renewed with American Home Shield and so, I filed the claim and went on to the website and gave a few details about the problem. After I submitted the claim, they responded with an email quickly saying the contractor would be in touch. And then, just a short time later, I got a call from JW Ultra Heating to schedule the time. We agreed on the next day and he came out on time. I was really happy with the contractor. He spent a good deal of time talking to me and telling me exactly what the problem was and how he fixed it. It was a painless process. If I have issues in the future, I would like to be able to request to have those same folks come out again.

I talked to their customer service when I was going through their renewal process right before scheduling the service. I realized that my previous contract had expired so I went to their website to try to look at my options, and I ended up chatting with the representative on the site. She was really helpful to answer my questions. Therefore, it was a good and positive interaction. As a customer, the most important thing is a quick turnaround and quality work. There’s this perception that if you’re going through your home warranty company, it’s extra overhead and it’s going to be painful. But I don’t think that reflects my experience so far. I would continue the contract with the quality folks and make sure that the repairs are handled in a timely manner.

The contractor told me that it was a hot water heater that needed to be replaced and then I had them go ahead and do it. When I sent the paperwork across for a claim to the company, American Home Shield denied it saying that in order for us to do that, it had to be done by one of their service people. Our water bill had gone skyrocketing for two months, so we had the water company come out to have them check it. They said that it wasn’t their leak, and that it was somewhere on our side of the meter then charged us $35. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a leak and couldn’t find it. Then I told them that I needed somebody that can find the leak, and they said okay. They charged me $75, and then they sent out a plumbing company. And though the plumber who came got paid, he couldn’t find the leak. He then said that we needed a leak specialist, and that we would have to pay $450 to have somebody come out and find the leak. So, we paid him the $450, then the leak specialist came. He had specialized tools to find the leak, so he found it right away. He was able to do the repair, and the whole thing cost us about $1000.

The leak specialist wanted to get paid, so we told him that we already paid the plumber to pay him. That got straightened out, but the plumber took another $100 fee although American Home Shield already paid him $75. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I paid $75 for somebody to come out, but all he did was call the leak specialist and charge me money. So, the plumber got $75 for not doing anything, and another $100 for calling a leak specialist. I then told American Home Shield that I wanted my $75 back, and the representative responded that they were sorry, but we had to pay the $75 no matter what happens.

So, I argued that I asked them to send somebody who could find and fix the leak, but they didn’t even send the right person, and she said that there was nothing she could do. So, I asked for a supervisor and she told me that they were not available, but she’ll put a note to for them call me. That was 5 days ago. So, now, I’m waiting for a callback from a supervisor. In the meantime, the leak cost us cost us another month of high water bills, so we’re out of a lot of money. I understand that things cost. But for me to pay American Home Shield $75 for nothing does not seem fair to me.

I was also very pleased with the contractor. He’s thorough and went over and beyond. I did a service recommendation online for him. Since the repair, everything seems to be working. I’ve been happy with AHS so far.

American Home Shield already had my electrical switch replaced once. I’ve had the house for 20 years and about 10 years ago, they replaced the switch. Now, I got a letter that said the switch is of the automation system in the house. There is no automation system in the house. What that switch does is when the house was built, there’s a light at the top of the stairs which lights up the stairway, and there’s a switch at the bottom and a switch at the top. It's a three-way switch and the builders forgot to run the wires. It was too late to run the wires, so what they did was they put in a radio frequency switch so you can turn on and off at the bottom. If you want to operate it from the top, it sends a signal down to the switch at the bottom.

The most recent electrician left and he didn’t understand anything. I was very unhappy with him. But AHS called me and said they were turning down my claim because of the automation. It was a really quick call and I didn’t get a chance to answer or say anything then. Now they’ve sent me a letter telling me to get in touch with them if I was not happy. I got that letter as I was leaving town, so I never had a chance to call them back. When I get back in town, I'm going to call them to explain it. But other than that, I'm still very happy with American Home Shield. I wouldn’t have had it for 21 years if I wasn't. I'm just unhappy with that one incident.

I chose American Home Shield warranty because I thought that they were a good company. I haven't had the service and year yet my Kenmore Refrigerator the ice maker is broken. They did send someone out to look at it. The service fee is a 100.00 dollars. They said that it's my sensor because the whole refrigerator is not working. That it would be a week to fix. Well it's going on two weeks now still without a refrigerator.

I called. I was on the phone on hold for 2 hrs or more on when I finally did speak to someone. She tells me that they just got the service order. I was pissed off so she tells me they have to order the part and that would be back the 20 of this month. I've been with a refrigerator for that amount of time. This is unacceptable... Buyers beware. Don't buy a WARRANTY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD WARRANTY.

There aren't enough words to express how horrific my experience with these people has been. I received a warranty through this miserable organization as part of my home purchase and every dreadful thing I've ever heard about home warranties has proven itself out. If you are considering acquiring a warranty through this organization, think very seriously about it first. Their contract expresses what they'll cover, but in another part of the contract, the language is just vague enough, so as to give the company an excuse not to cover something.

After paying $125 for a plumber to come out for a stoppage, they denied the cost to fix the source of the problem (the previous owner installed the pipe incorrectly). But if I wanted a 2nd opinion, I could pay another $125 and they would send a second plumber out to provide one. If the second plumber agreed with the first, then they would cover the repair. But when he submitted his concurrence with the first, they denied the coverage and then denied they ever told me they would cover the repair if the 2nd opinion concurred with the first. I have been without kitchen water for 3 weeks now because of this experience.

In another case, the contractor came out, walked around, said he'd communicate with AHS and I never heard from anyone again. I was without A/C during the summer (with elderly parents and a puppy with a broken leg in the house) because of their delays. Then I was without heat because of more delays (although both problems were eventually fixed... 90 days later).

I have sat on hold multiple times for over 60 minutes waiting to speak to someone. Every single contractor who has walked through my door under an AHS repair, has expressed their similar disgust to me with how they are treated by this abominable company. Do yourself and your sanity a favor and either negotiate their "out" out or better yet, hold companies like this accountable by not giving them your money in the first place.

I also have their warranty for my home and this year, their technician was out here the third time to work on my refrigerator and dishwasher and to fix my washing machine that was leaking. We’re getting to know each other pretty well. He’s a very nice man and he did a lovely job each time. He clearly knew what he was talking about and he knew immediately what was wrong with the washing machine.

I submitted a claim on the computer for the molding on our refrigerator that wasn't holding a seal, and American Home Shield called right back and scheduled the appointment, which was good. But the service guy didn't come in their bracketed time. We called them and told them we wanted them early. Instead, they missed the deadline by half an hour and caused us to miss our schedule all day. The person answering the phone from the contractor's side was impersonal and despite two requests to come early in the window they gave, she just said they couldn't handle it, and that wasn't the way it worked.

When the service guy was here, he had trouble accepting our explanation that the molding around the refrigerator door needed to be replaced. It didn't close securely every time but the issue was it did sometimes, and he didn't see the problem when he was here. We're worried that the refrigerator might not close, and therefore, stuff could eat up and become damaged. But as the guy said, we just have to be sure to push it securely every time. He finally but reluctantly agreed to do it, and he ordered a new part. But we haven't had it fixed yet. And the problem was a modest one and we'll see what happens when he fixes it. I like American Home Shield. It's the contractor that was the problem in this case.

It was completely frozen all the way up the wall and to the attic, and there were a lot of things wrong with how it was vented. All the things were on the ground and they weren't suspended. I was told by the techs, "We could repair it, but we can't guarantee that the AC unit will last you for another couple of months. You're going to have to keep paying and then you'll eventually have to get a new unit." So, I went ahead and got a new one. I tried to do submit the claim online, but the site was kicking me out so I had to call it in. I sat on hold for two hours, but once I got through it was okay. I ended up hanging up and then calling back. The wait time needs to be improved though. Also, one of the ladies didn't seem like she wanted to talk, but the others were very nice, courteous and professional.

American Home Shield have always handled their business when it comes to any of my orders. When I had a leak in my pipe, they immediately had someone to come in and fix it. But a hole was left in my sheet wall and it's been two weeks that they haven't fixed it. I'm going to call American Home Shield back because they didn't send the order in to the contractor. The company is ready to do it but they're not going to without an approval from American Home Shield because they need to make sure that they're going to get paid. I already made the schedule with their people and I just need American Home Shield to send the approval over.

Other than that, everyone of the contractors who came out have always been professional and helpful. When my GE refrigerator went out and it drove me crazy, American Home Shield also replaced my refrigerator. I waited for GE to do that for five years but American Home Shield did it instantly for me. I filed the claim as soon as the contract was over and I upgraded it. For me to upgrade it from black to the stainless-steel cost $371 originally, but American Home Shield did something and I ended up paying only $171.

The contractors that American Home Shield sent out also did exactly what they were supposed to do and were very courteous. There has been a delay in the repair of the sheet wall but if I call today and I can't get it resolved, then it will be a problem. Part of it is because I could've called sooner but I kept forgetting. American Home Shield should've put the order in, but I should have made a follow-up. I also have an issue with their automated system and it's something that I don't like. When I call, there's no button to push to get a live person. Somebody gave me a number and that's the only way I might be able to get to them. I could go online and send an email, but if I don't want to and if my computer is down, I don't know how else I could reach them. I would recommend American Home Shield to someone but this company needs to figure out how somebody can get to a live person.

My AC unit upstairs wasn't cooling properly and the temperature would not drop. The contractor AHS sent was great and very professional, but I knew what the problem was because my husband's a licensed contractor. I told the contractor what we knew it was he walked me through it. My unit hasn't had service since last year, so he checked everything out, including the Freon levels. He was around for 10 minutes and he was gone, so it was easy and the AC is working very well.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 11 years and the only time I contested a situation was with an incident that happened when the home was built. My home was a brand-new construction that I built 11 years ago and there was a water leak. When somebody came out, he wanted to break down the walls upstairs, and mine came all the way down from American Home Shield. The company collected their $75 from me and they didn't do anything.

I asked for a second opinion and had another company come out. They looked and opened up the hole where the water was coming from, a cut and a plastic tubey line for the hot water that comes from upstairs for the shower downstairs. I was told it's not covered by American Home Shield and I had to come up with another $150 for this guy to cut the line and put a metal connector to plug it from one side to the other. He was out there for five minutes and in turn, I'm paying for sheetrock damage because I'd rather have sheetrocks than pay another $3.75 for them to complete them, which I knew wasn't going to be covered at all.

I felt like the previous company didn't do their job because the guy would end up with all this other extra stuff that was making the problem. In the second job, the contractor went straight to the problem and fixed it. I had a leak previously in my kitchen when one of the main pipes coming in have burst in the wall, and that was covered. As the customer, everything should be covered without the pre-existing conditions. It's a condition I didn't know anything about and I was upset with American Home Shield. If I knew the AC wasn't working properly, and continued to run it like that, then I caused that damage. But I made a call as soon as I saw the problem. If I waited six months, that should be on me because I knew I had a problem six months ago and I let it keep going this way.

I bought a house not too long ago and I moved in and I bought the home warranty. I got some faucets that didn’t work and some parts that were broken, and American Home Shield called it all pre-existing. But I had no way to check the plumbing before I moved in, and there was no water. I've had some real problems and the thing that hurt my feelings about it was that they sent somebody out, it cost me $75 and they left. It has happened to me three or four times. The attic fan got the runaround from those guys. The electrician said it was an appliance and the appliance guy said it was the electrician. That was $150 to find out that they just blamed it on each other and I still have an attic fan that doesn’t work.

But plumbing problems, other than a water heater replacement, has been a nightmare. Then I got some pipes that were off and I had to have the house tunneled and the plumbing fixed. Now I’m having to learn how to be a plumber because a plumber wants $300 to replace a faucet and that was something I wasn't expecting. When I called the home warranty, the guy came out with a roto-rooter and he ran it down the pipe. It came back out with roots and he said, “This is where we stop. It’s got roots. It’s not under warranty.” Then he loaded up his stuff and left. I was about to spend $4,000 on a tunneling crew to come in and tunnel and replace pipes under the house but I thought that was what I bought a home warranty for. Also, I had a dishwasher in my kitchen that they said needed a belt. It took a month to get it in and by the time it did, I had given up and I just bought another dishwasher. But there was another $75 that I spent.

It has been one thing after another. I got people to come out and see me but I didn’t get any service. I really came close to canceling my service one time and getting my money back. I can take $750 to the hardware store and buy a lot of stuff and do it myself. At least there’s somebody calling for feedback because there are a lot of companies out there that don’t that. The last two times I've called for a home warranty, I had a water heater go out, and they came out and put a water heater in. It took a couple of days but they did it. And this last time, the garage door opener threw the chain off and they fixed it. The contractor they sent out took care of us and it seemed easy compared to some of the other things I’ve dealt with them. Those were two good experiences but I've only been in the house for six weeks and 90% of my claims have been declined.

They have been inconsistent because they said the faucets and the plumbing were a pre-existing condition. But I had eight light switches replaced though I haven’t worn those light switches out in a month. So, if it costs a bit of money, it’s pre-existing. If it’s cheap and we can get it knocked out really quick and easy, then we’ll do it. That was how it has been going. The only thing I've had good was the light switches and these last calls I've had a good response to. But right off the bat with my plumbing issues, it has been really frustrating for me. My seller paid for $500 of the home warranty and I went and threw in another $250 at it and said I want the best home warranty I can get, but I also need septic system warranty. If this is the best you can get, then I feel really bad for the people that are spending $500.

I had a plumbing request with American Home Shield, and the guy who came out wasn’t able to help. I purchased an older home, and he said the issue to the plumbing was preexisting from the previous owner, so it wasn’t covered by the warranty and I would have to pay $1200 out of pocket to get it fixed. I also did a request for electrical service two weeks ago, and they told me that Electrical Connections was the only company that services my area through them, but Electrical Connections is not professional and they don’t return phone calls. I’ve left them several voicemails, and I’ve yet to hear from them so I can get my electrical issues addressed. I have called American Home Shield on three occasions to let them know that I have not heard from the electrician and they have yet to get an electrician out to my home.

My heating and air were serviced. The heating was fixed, but the tech adjusted the voltage, and now it keeps throwing out all the power in my basement. I requested someone for my air, and they came too early in the day and I couldn’t take off work, so they were supposed to reschedule me to address my air issues but they never did. I told them that I had left work early on several occasions and the heating people had gone out three times. I have called American Home Shield and they said they would try to get in touch with them, and they would call me back once they did. They never returned my call and I don’t know what to do past that. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been negative, and I’ve been contemplating on canceling the service and receiving a refund.

I prefer submitting claims online because I have been placed on about an hour holds calling in because of the supposed high call volume. I don’t want to sit on hold for an hour out of my day to put in a service request, so I do it online. But when you do it online as what the plumber told me, it chooses the services that need to be addressed. They didn’t let me choose how many faucets and how much plumbing I needed to be done. They did an automatic, one faucet, one toilet type of thing, and there was nothing wrong with my commode. So, the plumber came out here with a service request for one faucet and one commode, but I have several issues.

Initially, I was told having my home on a warranty would be a good thing, but it can be frustrating because the service can be slow. And my first claim was fairly quick. They came on out and checked my heat. So I figured that it wouldn’t be as difficult, but with this electrical issue, I’m starting to see where the slowness is coming into play because I have yet to receive any results. American Home Shield should definitely get more people in their call center so customers wouldn’t have to be placed on hold for so long, and they should definitely provide more than one service provider for an area.

The plumber was a very nice gentleman. He was out here at around 8:00 in the morning and was able to fix the issue for about 30 minutes. However, the sink isn't back in yet. He referred me to a restoration company because they had to take off some walls. The cabinet that held the sink disintegrated so they're remaking the cabinet. Our experience with American Home Shield has not been that great. Sometimes they’re real responsive and then some other times they’re not. I don’t know if it’s just the person we happen to get, which is probably 89% of it. Their customer service needs a great deal of improvement. There were also a lot of people who had attitudes and I don’t like that. I asked for a supervisor the other day and they said they didn’t have any supervisors which I find hard to believe.

Every time we get on the phone with American Home Shield it takes at least an hour. Plus they don't take the time to really listen to the customer to find out what the real problem is either and we have had issues with American Home Shield sending out the wrong vendors. They hear a few words and then they’re off running to send someone out. The other day I went round and round with one of the reps saying we had a propane fireplace that wasn’t working. He sent out Economy Air Conditioning & Heating. If they are sent out it costs $75 and thank God I asked them before they came out whether they work on propane fire logs. They said no and that I need a different vendor. That's what I thought but I couldn't get AHS to understand that.

When they have to send out the vendor they can only send out the vendor that’s available, which is okay. But a lot of times like for the plumbing issues they send out a plumber who doesn’t have the right equipment. They refuse to send the company that we know has the right equipment. It ended up costing us $75 every time they came out yet we ended up redoing that.

One summer we had to have the heating and air conditioning unit replaced but the people who installed it did not do it correctly so when we went to turn the heat on it blew the fuse in the house. The contractors came back out but we had to get an electrician fix the breaker before they could do anything. The electrician came out and changed the breaker but he said that was not what the problem. Then American Home Shield sent out a different heating and air person and they figured it out.

The 30-amp had been hooked into the 60-amp breaker and he also discovered that we only have two heating elements on the new unit even though on our old unit we had three. So American Home Shield replaced something that was broken but they replaced it with inferior products. It is not the same. We had another air conditioning unit replaced this summer and it was a 5-ton but they replaced it with a 4-ton. It’s not as efficient because we have a huge house. We’re not happy about those types of things.

We got an email saying that we needed to check our heat to make sure it works. I couldn't do it that day because it was 80 degrees that whole week. But when the temperature got low, we checked it for the first time and it didn't pop on. I called American Home Shield and made a claim through the automated system. I would rather talk to a live person, but they said it was busy and I didn't want to wait that long. But the automated system worked great. It said within 24 to 48 hours, somebody would call for an appointment and four hours later, somebody called to make me an appointment.

The contractors were on time and they kept in touch. My husband was there when the contractors came and he loved them. He said they were professional and that they explained what was wrong. He said he would use them again and again. Since the repair, the heater works perfectly. However, I was disappointed that they did not go in the house to make sure there was no carbon monoxide leak after they fixed it because I know it could have been leaking before, during, or after. But other than that, they were very professional over the phone and in person. I highly recommend American Home Shield if all of it is going to be that way.
