I made a claim online from American Home Shield for our microwave. It was easy to navigate through their website and so was their claim process. The contractor was excellent. The first time, the guy came out and evaluated. We did quick service when they came up the second time. The guy that came out and did the repair was excellent. My microwave has been good since the repair. We've had our disappointments and disagreements, but it's been okay.

I just had a stopped up drain and I called American Home Shield. The contractor they sent out was great. He was very extremely prompt. He came out that day and I live out in the country so that’s really unusual. Plus he was very friendly and he got right to the problem, got it fixed and was through. Probably he was in here twenty minutes. The issue was fixed within four hours that I submitted the claim. That was the quickest I’ve ever had one and I’ve never have one real slow. Things go smooth when I file a claim with American Home Shield. They’ve just always been very, very helpful and the people they’ve all sent out have been very good so I’m very happy with them.

My AC failed and it started with the compressor issue on my outside AC unit. American Home Shield replaced the compressor and then they came back out. Two months ago, the temperature was in the mid-90s out here but the AC wasn’t keeping up. It was running about five degrees below what the thermostat was set on. Then, they came out and diagnosed that the condenser core was bad. AHS ended up replacing the whole outside AC unit. The guys that came out did a great job. We changed seasons so I don't know how well the unit works until probably March of next year.

The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is the amount of time that it took to get through to talk to someone in service but totally understandable with the hurricane in Mississippi and Florida. But besides that, the service and the call back from the reps has been phenomenal. I would definitely recommend AHS to a friend. With them, my house is still up for sale. I am the seller and if I would decide to take my house off the market, I would consider getting American Home Shield personally as a warranty service for myself.

We’ve had American Home Shield in the last five years and we’re very very pleased with their prompt and efficient service and the way the things are taken care of. My refrigerator was not cooling properly so I placed a service call with American Home Shield online. It was very easy and convenient, then the serviceman came. Our ice maker had shorted out the main board on the refrigerator so he replaced all of that and everything is running satisfactorily now.

We had an issue with the dishwasher. It gave an error code and the thing wasn't working. AHS managed to fix it and it is working well. We also had another claim with the fridge. There was a flab inside that looked like it was about to fall off and the handle was broken. The handle was not fixed but the flab was fixed. I'm just waiting for the handle to be done. The only thing was they told us it would take them seven to 10 days to come out and it took a little bit over that. But their people were professional. When I called in, they were okay on the phone.

My mother-in-law was with AHS before me and I just renewed the contract when I took over about five years ago. Altogether, we've been with the company for about 15 years. Some of the contractors were really good but some of them didn't really want to be there and they said AHS didn't pay them. My mom said American Home Shield was the worst to work for. Right now, I'm really not happy with AHS. I'm waiting for the end of this month and I may cancel with them. I pay $50 dollars a month and I had hardly ever used them except for this year. I used them for three different things.

I called AHS twice for a plumber and he had to be over twice until it worked. Once I filed a claim for a water heater and that was denied because of the sediments. But what do I know about sediments? And that was why I insured it. When my refrigerator broke, that took a long time too. AHS had four different companies come and look at it. One guy who came didn't even look at it. I told him what had happened and hat he was the fourth guy here. I asked if he could tell me what was wrong and he said that it didn't make sense for him to look at it.

The contractors all told AHS that they couldn't fix it and it took AHS about two months until they decided to replace it, during which I was without a fridge. It was so frustrating and it was so hard. Some people were very nice over there and some people were very mean. In the end, they took care of it. But I had a mess in my kitchen because I was living out of ice chests. One of the ladies that I talked to at the end was really sweet though. She was the one that made things happen because they were trying not to replace the fridge.

I had six contracts with AHS for several of the properties that I have. I also purchased the additional coverage for the hot water tank where if I need to bring it up to code, they will cover all of that. When I kept getting repeated denials for plumbing, I cancelled all of my contracts with them. Even when I would say that I have that extra coverage, they told me my claims were still not covered. So I’m better off not having AHS.

When I called them to submit my claims, their reps were very nice. In fact, they call me all the time telling me that they noticed my contract's getting ready to expire or has expired so they ask if they could offer me a discount to come back to them but I told them no. As for the contractors they sent, I believed them when they came out and said what the property needed. But I had it with AHS for nine years on all of the properties and they should really think about the claim that they are handling. I feel that now, it’s harder and harder for them to approve anything. The wait time to get a contractor out was longer, too. After I call them, I have to get authorization from AHS, then they come out. It was easier for me to call a standard plumber and ask him if he could come fix the problem. Also, since I have a renter, it’s cheaper if I call a plumber out for $200 then make the renter go into a hotel for two nights.

We had a leaky kitchen sink faucet so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. But it was super difficult to do it on the phone. I can't get ahold of anybody on the phone at all. It would be really nice if their hold times weren't an hour. But it was not too bad doing it online. Their contractor was great. Apparently, there was something wrong with the sink that was a warranty part. He gave me some tips on how to deal with the manufacturer to get a replacement part because we're not the original homeowners. He also said that because it's a warranty item, he can't order it and replace it, but he was able to do something to temporarily fix it for us. To me, I felt like he went above and beyond what he needed to do because if it's a warranty part and he's saying he can't replace it, then he could’ve just left at that point and said, “Sorry. I can't help you.” But at least getting the leak stopped was a big deal for us, so we were happy with him.

I submitted a claim over the phone with American Home Shield to work on my washing machine and their rep was helpful and friendly. However, after they scheduled the first guy to come out, I found out that the service agent was a guy they used in the past and had done some work for my mother, and we've had very bad experience with that particular company. I called up AHS right away and they told us that they'll change the contractor and that they'll review his status as their vendor since it was not the first time that they have gotten complaints about him.

I was extremely happy that they listened. They then sent me another gentleman within the same time period. He came out the same day that I called. He was very friendly and I was pleased with him. He told me that I didn't really have to submit a claim for it and that I can do it by myself. He showed me why the unit wasn't draining and took time to explain how to do maintenance on the part that was giving us a problem. After the service, the washing machine was like a brand new machine again.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was a water or sewer pipe leakage because of cracking in a wall. I called them to have them come out and investigate. The first guy they sent out didn’t do a thing and the second guy said he could not do what he thought needed to be done. He looked at what he thought might be leaking but there was no exterior water of any sort. And so, he recommended to pop up tiles, do a moisture inspection on the concrete, open up walls in the bathroom to see if the pipes were leaking and take videos down the sewer lines, so that he could see if there were any pipes but it was rejected by AHS because there was no visible water.

What I always thought about American Home Shield was that if it’s not a broken refrigerator or an air conditioner that went out, they're not going to deal with it. And they proved me right. Having this foundation issue was a fish out of water and it seemed like they didn’t know how to handle it. Also, the customer service rep was not very accommodating. She was pretty matter-of-fact about the whole thing and didn’t really care to have me walk through the whole thing. And so, I had to contact the contractor because she told me that the contractor wrote that he did not find anything which wasn't what he told me verbally. So, I followed back up and the guy said that what he wrote was what he recommended for us to do. I even have the sheet that he came out with.

I did not request that the cracks be fixed as of yet, because I didn’t want to do anything till I knew what was going on. And so, I took it upon myself and hired somebody to do the video inspection which cost me $350. I had them check if the foundation has moved in the last three years and it has not. So it's not from foundation movement or water moisture. They found out that the wall lost its air gap at the top and so as it expands and contracts, the crack appears. And so the way to relieve it is to put spacers between the top plate and the ceiling of the non-bearing wall.

Overall, the AHS rep that I talked to had no compassion or empathy to my problem. But from the standpoint of the vendors that they sent out and the communication they had with me, that all went really good. I can go online and put a thing in or I can call them. Their vendors got right back to me, trying to set up an appointment.

I had a claim to check my range oven, and called American Home Shield. It wasn't difficult to do, but the calling time and the wait with customer service is so long. It's not a 10 minute wait, and they keep saying your wait is going to be 15 minutes and it turns out to be 20 and 30 minutes. You just can't hold on the phone that long. But once I was put through customer service, the individual that I spoke to was pleasant and was really concerned about my claim. The rep was willing to take care of it and they did that day. They got the information that I needed and they called and set up for the gentleman to come out for the services. So, everything went fine.

My range has not been repaired, but they're going to replace it. It has been placed on order and right now, we're just waiting for the range to come in. But I'm still well pleased with American Home Shield. Everyone that I've spoken with are really pleasant, and they're really professional with their job. If there's something that they don’t know, they'll put me on hold and work on trying to find an answer for me and come right back and let me know. And I appreciate that. I woould recommend it.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my hot water heater and they only have to change the vent which is located on the top of the water heater. Their technician came and change that, and now it’s okay. Another one was my washer which is still waiting for some kind of spring, something to be put in. The guy who came originally didn’t change or put additional springs to make the balance inside of the washer. So, when it spins, it makes a lot of noise. So, the guys who came last week said they will be back, but they still didn’t call and didn’t come back. It’s Pro Appliance and I’m waiting for their phone call. I'm thinking if I should call them to remind them to come so it can be done.

The AHS reps were very nice. There was a time when the technician couldn’t come right away and they gave me another address. So far, I’m happy with everything that Pro Appliance guys did, except that they're a little slow to come back and finish their work. I called AHS and told them that I need Pro Appliance guys to come back because the heater is still making noise, and to make sure that I’m not charged again. And they said, "No, you’re not going to be charged again. It’s only one-time charge." I am on limited spending and I had a back surgery and for peace of mind, it’s so good for me to have AHS because I don’t have that fear on how much I spend every month and the stresses. I would definitely recommend AHS.

I have two air conditioning units in my home. One of them, the one that was in the attic, was leaking and wasn't working correctly. I called American Home Shield and the reps were very helpful once I explained my situation. They sent Eastern Air Control who I feel ripped me off because they didn't fix it. They didn't replace anything and I wounded up having the subsequent leak once again. I tried reaching Eastern Air Control after they hadn't repaired or replaced what they were supposed to do. I wasn't able to get through to them and I made a complaint to American Home Shield. My wife is sick and I really couldn't have this constant going back and forth. They sent another company out, Liberty Heating and Air Conditioning, and they took care of it. The AC is better than before and they did a great job. I recommend AHS.

    Reviewed Nov. 22, 2017

We’ve had quite a few claims with American Home Shield and more often than not, it seems like we live outside of their normal coverage area. So anytime we have a claim, they typically don't find the vendor within 30 miles like they usually would do for a more urban area. The process takes a week or so because it has to go through an outside authorization department. And then, on our end, we have to find the vendor that will service our area. When that vendor comes to do the work, we have to phone up American Home Shield outside authorization department. They'd approve it and then we pay for that out of our pocket and get reimbursed within a month. It’s not the most convenient thing, but it is a work around and the service has been sufficient enough for us to feel confident in renewing our coverage.

The warranty was supposed to cover all components including a central vacuum system because it was written in the contract as an included component in the home. However, when I went to go put in a service request, I was told that they no longer service it. They had changed the term of the coverage after I purchased it. So, that was an out of pocket expense I wasn’t expecting.

I also had one service request where I had paid the contractor directly. It was when there was a transition between the contractors receiving the service fee from the customer and American Home Shield just taking it up front. I had AHS calling me for a month and sending me letters saying I hadn’t paid the service fee and I’m like, “I paid the contractor.” So, there was a little bit of a mix-up there. I had to provide them copies by faxing a statement showing “cleared” which was better than whatever they were threatening to do like cancel my warranty because I’d hate it.

Recently, we submitted a claim for our water heater. I went with the company that I knew so I'd know what to expect. They have a good work ethic and have done a good job. So, I’m pleased that I got here the contractor that I wanted. As annoying as the outside authorization thing was, it actually worked in my favor at that point. However, although we’re not used to things being done overnight as we're a little bit rural, it would have saved with the water heater if they expedited it. It took about a week and so we knew that if we wanted it fixed quicker, we would just not use the warranty. But we felt that the home warranty protected us because we're not a whole lot of do-it-yourself people. It paid for itself the first year so it was a good investment for us.

However, they could have kept better record on our end as far as noting that our location is rural and that nearly every service request we put in is going to have to have outside authorization. But it seemed like there was a bit of hold-up as far as that goes because they had to go through their own protocol. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any skipping that step which felt like a waste of time and was irritating for us and for the people taking our call because they had no way to bypass it. They had to go through the steps knowing ahead of time that it’s not going to produce any positive result.

I wanted to renew my policy with AHS. I called in and connected with a CSR who told me my policy would a be $571 for the year a little bit more than last year. After giving her my credit card info and thinking things were all set she called back to say that there was an error and I no longer qualified for a renewal. I was in a different category and would have to pay a higher rate. I asked for supervisor who explained to me that the Legal Department had reviewed my policy and said I had used too much service. I could get a new policy but it would be more than double the $571!

I think that is outrageous on the part of AHS. I have been with them 9 years and have never had any complaints about using too much service. I am conservative trying to fix things myself first but before I absolutely must call AHS. I also think they pulled a bait and switch telling me I had a renewal policy only to cancel it. The supervisor said that she would email the Legal Department but doubted that it would do any good. No other recourse was given.

I input a request for service on a failed Hot Water Heater (HWH) ---- water all over floor; leaking out of bottom on HWH ---nothing coming out of the Heat Relief Valve. It is gone! They said they'd assign someone to it within a few minutes. They did, the company called and said they'd be out tomorrow, to evaluate the HWH. If it was "found" to be faulty; then they'd call American Home Shield (AHS) who would ship a HWH from their warehouse (location unknown) to me, and they'd come back and install it. In the past, they'd simply call AHS to report it faulty, and put in a HWH they had on the truck.

This saves AHS a few bucks---they buy a bunch of HWHs cheaply---and then ship them out to be replaced and they save a few dollars. IT IS TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Thursday is Thanksgiving; nothing is going to ship nor be delivered on Thanksgiving. Nor is a plumber going to install anything on a holiday. So we are going to be out of hot water for at least four or seven days. Over a holiday weekend! With guests in the house, a dinner to cook, and nowhere to take showers or wash dishes.

I called and talked to "Shelly" in their Service Support office. After waiting 51 minutes to reach Customer Service. She said, "Yes, that is how we do it now. Read the contract." The contract was changed a month ago according to the plumbing company. Obviously, I didn't know it changed as I expected service today or tomorrow. I asked to speak to her manager, who Shelly told me is off for the holiday, and won't be back until Monday. A "Kamaira" who doesn't have a next up in line manager (according to Shelly). This company wants your money for providing service and protection. But they sure don't want to actually provide it!

I had multiple issues and they kind of cancelled each other out that selecting one issue would not allow me to select another issue. So I ended up calling. I talked with a live person and their representative was knowledgeable and efficient.

The contractor came out once here too but the most recent one was regarding the furnace. He called beforehand and was very timely. When he got here, he explained what he was doing, let me know what the issue was, then said he would be getting in contact with me once he submitted the work order. The appointment happened early in the morning. I was expecting a call either at the end of the day or that morning to of let me know what the determination was, but I had to call back to find out what the outcome was.

The problem's still unresolved as of right now and the holdup involves the mortgage company. What happened was when I purchased the home, I had the inspections and when they came out for American Home Shield, they advised that the gas company tagged the line that the furnace was inoperable prior to me closing on the home. I'm not sure if it wasn’t repaired or if it wasn’t repaired properly, but whatever date was stated on that notice predated my closing date, so AHS said that they couldn’t cover its repair. I'm going to have to repair it then go back and forth with the mortgage company. With the weather getting a little bit colder, I know the amount of time this is going to take. If at all possible and if I can even be reimbursed, I'm going to try to go that route where I know I'm going to have to fix this myself. So the outcome was unfavorable but I had a pleasant experience with AHS. My claim was handled well and I would still recommend them.

When you go up and deal with people, you need to be friendly. So, I was really pleased. He was also professional and explained what the problem was. He first checked to see if it was not my heater by any chance. He did a very thorough job, and I was very satisfied. My unit was 20 years old, so it was an older technology. The new one, on the other hand, is much easier to handle and put the heat up or down that the old one. It’s really nice, and I’m very happy with it. Everything with AHS was perfect, and they should continue what they are doing.

The contractor was very knowledgeable and kept me informed of what he was doing. He told me that they had to order the part that they need from the factory so they could make it for my unit and it normally takes two to three weeks. It took three weeks but as soon as they got the part, they called me, came out and fixed everything. The unit worked 100%. It would have torn up completely my outdoor condensing unit and affected everything had they not fixed it right away. Everything went smoothly this time and I appreciate it. American Home Shield is a fantastic company. They’re always on time and they deliver the product that I pay for. I have been with them for eight years. I was an active duty military for over 20 years so I have two houses in different states. I ended up with the warranty on the houses as a result of that and just carry them as rental properties now. My experiences with them have all been very positive. They live up to their word and I’ve never had an issue with claims. There had been follow-ups that have been needed but they’ve always been taken care of.

Once, I had issues with my heating system in my house in North Carolina and AHS identified and isolated the problem, and they fixed it. It conked out again, they went in, identified and isolated the problem once again and realized that it’s not going to be able to be fixed so they replaced the system. No hassle, it was just done. The contractors they sent out were great and one guy especially comes to mind. He’s the plumber that typically gets contracted through American Home Shield down in New Bern, North Carolina. He’s a fantastic guy. So far, they’ve done right by me and I’ve recommended them to other people, which I don’t do if I don’t trust or believe in their product.

In my main house, I phoned AHS for a claim and they sent a company out to fix my AC. They checked both units and said everything was fine. The rep was very good and the main reason that I called rather than do it online was because of the bad with one of the companies that they had recommended. I used them on another property, a rental one, and the bad experience that I had was that they quoted me to do all this work. They asked me some information and they said, "We've got you approved for $8,500." I said, "Well, give the paperwork because I'm trying to do something else right now. " I'm trying to get a home improvement loan and I said, "I don't want to mess up my credit and have too many nicks on it."

The next thing I know, I get a credit card from the bank where I owed them $8,500. And I never even had the work done. So, I took it back to the bank and I told them. And they said, "Well, we didn't issue it, but this company had set up where they run credit through us." So, they canceled the credit card. I said, "Here's the paperwork. I never filled it out, I never signed it." When I called to request service, I told them I did not want them to come. I wanted another company to come. The contractor that we have now is very good and I use them now for both properties. The good thing about AHS is that you can talk to them, you can let them know if you're happy or unhappy with someone that they recommended. And then they can find somebody else for you.

I had a very negative experience with American Home Shield. I had paid this insurance for over 10 years and only did one claim in Chicago that I have to fight to get paid. A pot in the broiler broke and it was in the middle of winter and this was a couple of years ago. They told me they found a company 30 days later. I was calling the company, getting work with the type of heating that we have. Then, that's when I learned that when I call them, they put a claim, they assign the contractor and the provider, then the provider calls me and then I pay the $75, and before the job is done, they have to approve it. I'm a disabled person and I needed the heat, but the company never came through.

So, between four and a half days without heat, I called them to say that I had gotten a company to fix it. They told me that they won't approve it because that company doesn't work for them. I told them that I didn't care what they're approving or not because I needed the heat. I told them all of that but they didn't cancel the insurance. And at least, I got part of the money back.

The second claim that I put was in the new house that we purchased. We were moving things to the house and we accidentally pushed furniture because the thermostat was in the middle of the wall. We accidentally knocked out the thermostat that affected the air conditioning. Then, I called the insurance. They had found me a company, Air Bus Mechanical, LLC. They didn’t call me but I called them because I was the one in need.

The gentleman came and we informed him what had happened, saying it was an accident. He said that he can’t fix the air conditioning without the thermostat. I told them that I have respiratory problems and that I need air. So the gentleman said he’ll be back that afternoon and will call before he comes but they never called back. So, I called the next day just saying what happened, that the person never called me and we still have the issue. Then I called American Home Shield and found out that the claim was denied because it was not normal wear and tear.

After paying for so many years, with only two claims and getting trouble with both of them, I would not recommend AHS to anyone. I called and told them that I wanted to cancel my insurance. They canceled it and never called me back about anything. My last payment was on the 28th of October because I pay at the end of the month. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield.

The contractor that AHS sent to my house, who is one of their approved repairers and who they told me was a licensed plumber, was in fact not a plumber. He was supposed to try and locate the source of a water leak but as far as I’m concerned, he has done some damage to my property which was more than what I would consider necessary. Instead of doing a routine problem-solving expedition, he took a saw to a number of different locations in my home and cut about six-inch holes in my drywall. Now the wall needs to be re-sheeted entirely and it’s going to cost a significant amount of money to repair the damage. I’m still in the process of trying to get it fixed but American Home Shield is less than willing to cover the cost. I've been with them for three months and this is my first interaction with them. Based on my experience, I would seriously reconsider not being with them anymore. It was awful and the worst.

We had a toilet that was not flushing correctly and we had a faucet that was leaking so I phoned AHS. I had a good experience with both the rep and the contractor. The toilet is working fine now but the sink faucet still has a little bit of spraying coming out on the side. It's a different problem than what I had before though. I didn’t have enough pressure then but the contractor fixed that.

That aside though, American Home Shield has areas to improve on in their process. We had two plumbing issues at the same time and the plumber could have made it in one service call as long as he knew that we had those two issues because whenever they come, they know in advance what the problems are. The way that it's handled on the computer or over the phone, you can only report that you have a claim for a faucet or a toilet. You can't say faucet and toilet.

They will not allow you to make two claims simultaneously and that’s a problem with the system because ultimately it'll costs American Home Shield more money to have multiple problems taken care of separately than it would to take care of them at the same time if it's the same contractor. What they should have when you make a plumbing claim and you click the box, there should be another box that comes up. Once you selected a specific type of claim, they don’t ask if that is the only plumbing problem you have or if you have other plumbing problems as well.

What theoretically happens is Home Shield ends up having to pay two separate visits rather than just one. Granted I would have to pay a deductible each time, it would make me angry at them that I couldn’t take care of both the claims at the same and that makes the customer dissatisfied. It's also possible that if you make two separate claims that one claim could get right to one contractor and another one could be routed to a different contractor even though it's the same type of claim.

In order to minimize the amount of outgoing claims money that you pay, you don’t want to encourage people to come up with new claims. You don’t want to have one box that says plumbing claim #1, plumbing claim #2. Otherwise, people will start thinking about a lot of stuff. After you’ve already committed to saying you have a plumbing claim, it makes sense to ask if there are any other plumbing issues because that way you at least know that there's one contractor and one service call because it tells the contractor what the problems are.

It's the same contractor that gets the claim that says toilet and faucet are both bad then they know to bring parts for them. You don’t want two different plumbers to come in because you're going to end up doubling the cost that American Home Shield pays and we're going to be mad about having to pay two $100 deductibles when we could have done it with just one $100 deductible. But AHS is not identifying the opportunity to make a second issue at the same time during the claims process because by adding that one extra question they probably could end up saving themselves some money.

I have owned 15 houses that I've had American Home Shield warranties on a dozen of them over 34 years. They have the data and they could easily do a test to see if they end up paying out more money one way or the other. All it is is math and statistics and keeping track of the data. But they have no way of knowing how much money they could save by making one contractor handle two problems at the same time. They're going to get better customer loyalty and a contractor can oftentimes do a toilet and a sink in less than an hour.

It's very frustrating as a customer to use the automated systems then go back in and have to call and find out I have another matter and wanting the same contractor because it happens to be two different plumbing issues. What I end up having to do as a customer is to work it out with whichever contractor calls me first and that’s what had happened to me before. I tell that contractor that I have two problems and I'd like them to handle both of them. And they’ll say to call American Home Shield and cancel the other claim and tell them that I want the second claim on the name of that particular contractor. It ends up costing AHS money to have live operators as opposed to the telephone and the computers.

At one point in time, we also owned another policy with Home Warranty of America and they had slightly better contractors for the most part than American Home Shield. But I went back with American Home Shield because Home Warranty of America's premium was too high. Right now, I own five homes and I've got American Home Shield policies on two of them and I sometimes pay for the policies under different people’s names because I've got runners in different homes.

The tech that AHS sent was very good to come out very quick and told me our plug wasn't screwed in the wires correctly and I could've had a really bad fire. This was poor workmanship for a brand new house. The other claim was for a plumbing issue. I had a leak in one of the pipes outside of the garage and it was starting to go on the drywall. The guy who came out was wonderful and did a great job but AHS couldn't get anybody out for over a week. I took a day off when the tech was coming and I got a call from the dispatcher and I was asked if it was okay if we reschedule. I thought I was going to blow veins. The tech was stuck on another job and came after hours, which I had to give him a lot of credit for that. He was so sweet, helpful, and apologetic. It was not his fault. They just didn't have enough people in the area.

I tried calling AHS and the hour and 45-minute wait was ridiculous. So I left an email but nobody ever responded to it. They should get back to you if you're trying to call or email them. The plumbing issue can damage the house and can cost so much money. And when you're a single person and you have a house, a woman especially, you have to have a home warranty because I don't know who to call. The service people were great.

We do our claim filing online but for the dishwasher and the microwave, I did it over the phone because I was having some issue with putting the claim.

Also, the first contractor was pretty horrible. When he was repairing the dishwasher, he couldn't figure out the parts so he came back a second time. But when I came home, the things were still not working so I checked the dishwasher part and put it all back together the right way for him. And then for the microwave, he had to do six different visits. Each time, he said that a different part was bad. So we asked AHS to send out another contractor and we filed a complaint and did a review on the guy. The second guy who came out just opened up the microwave, told us something was in the wrong spot, plugged something else in the right way and it worked fine. Other than that, I have been pretty happy with my service overall.

I’ve been with American Home Shield since I moved back to St. Louis four and a half years ago and I had them the nine and a half years that I was in Corpus Christi. Submitting a claim can’t be any easier. I've done it by phone but I do it online most of the time. The representatives are very professional and the wait time is not long. They’ll say eight minutes and a minute later they come on. My contractors have been very professional and very pleasant. The last one even remembered my name from visit to visit.

When I just moved into my little doll house on the island my air conditioner went out and American Home Shield came out and replaced it. The sad part was it was a one-SEER air conditioner and they weren’t authorized to go any higher. But a one-SEER was no longer made so I got a two or three-SEER. It wasn’t what I would have put in myself. That was my first experience. But I still got a new air conditioner and I’m pleased with American Home Shield.

We also had a bad dishwasher motherboard diagnosed and it took a while to get the motherboard. The serviceman took a couple of days to come out, came out, discovered the motherboard wasn’t it and that the entire electrical system is shut. Then I went online and American Home Shield was very helpful and they ordered me a GE dishwasher with stainless steel top and a white front with controls on the front just like I have. I haven’t been contacted by the new installer yet but American Home Shield said probably late next week. I recommend AHS. My daughter thinks it’s a waste of time because she said, “Mother you’re just paying all year upfront whether you use it or not.” And I said, “Yeah, but when I needed it, it saved me a hell of a lot more than $480.”

I put in a work order for some plumbing to be done. A plumber came out and said he fixed it, but he didn’t. I called American Home Shield back and the guy wanted to get crappy with me on the phone and told me that I would have to pay another $75 to have somebody else come out. I told him I wasn’t paying it! The same guy who came out the first time came out the second time and he accused me of doing something to his work to make it start leaking again. He had a cocky attitude and he didn’t even look at anything. He had to replace a spigot and he had to replace three parts on the other sink, yet he got on the phone and called American Home Shield and said it wasn’t even leaking. This scammer was from North Texas plumbing and I had put in a complaint about him with Austin and under no circumstances are they permitted at my house again. I've talked to people that live around me who said the same thing about North Texas.

I was upset with both the American Home Shield rep who argued with me and the first contractor who said everything was fixed. I called American Home Shield back and the guy that I talked to wanted to give me the runaround and told me that I would have to pay for a different company to come out and I told them no. They sent another company out here, and this time, the guy was from Westside Plumbing. That company is awesome and I highly recommend him. He had to go and buy a spigot and he was here at 8:00 the next morning putting a new faucet in my sink. He was mad and he said it wasn’t the first time he had to go behind North Texas Plumbing because their work was not complete. I was not happy with my overall experience with American Home Shield.

We love our experience with American Home Shield. We had somebody out here for a heater problem. We submitted a claim over the phone and their reps were great. We got a hold of them, and then the same day they were out here checking the heater out. I had to order a part, but we got it the next day. Everything's good now. It hasn't been too cold, so we haven't had to use it a lot. The contractor was great. He was very clean and polite. He was good and he knew what he was doing. He ordered the part and we got it back, and it was good to go. I'm glad American Home Shield is around and I think everybody should have it. I told other people about it because it's one of the best things out there for people that don't have to try to save up or have to borrow money when an appliance breaks down. So, it's perfect for people.

I am so thankful that my AHS home warranty is here and that I have it. It’s a wonderful thing and I love it. When I first got it, the gentleman that I spoke with was great. They’re very nice people and I have recommended them to seven people so far. I told them they better get on AHS to protect themselves. I filed a claim with them when my heating and cooling unit wasn’t working. It was blowing but it wasn’t cooling or heating. I did it online and that was really easy. The best part about American Home Shield was I submitted the claim on a Wednesday and the man was here on a Thursday. It was super fast and I didn’t even wait 24-hours.

The guy that they sent here was awesome and very personable. He told me every step of everything he was going to do, what was wrong and what he was going to do to resolve it. His knowledge was triple A plus and he had it fixed in 20 minutes. Then I paid him my fee and that was it. The unit works perfectly now and it's heating when it needs to. We’re in Georgia so some days we need heat but some days we need air.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield online because we were having issues with our air conditioner and it was very easy. We did it very early in the morning but they were very responsive. We got a text confirmation that they'll be sending somebody out from a certain vendor within two hours. A tech from a local AC repair shop came on the same day but he was to remake a repair about three days later. He told us at that time that the part would need to be brand specific because he wasn't sure if the board would run the heater if it was a universal. But when he came back, he said that he had brought the universal because he had been told that it would run the heater as well. He replaced it and the AC started to work.

When we had to turn on the heater a day later, the heater stopped working. We called American Home Shield back out and they said we were within the recall period so they didn't charge us another fee. However, the tech determined that another part is broken and needs to be fixed. American Home Shield said that they'll replace that part but there's $1,500 worth of non-covered pieces that we'll need to take care of. We're currently speaking with American Home Shield and the vendor to try and figure out if all of those parts are necessary because my husband is familiar with some of the parts and he said that they're still in good condition.

However, from when they called to notify us that there would be some uncovered expenses, they did list everything off but they've told us that they cannot provide us an email copy of the list of all the parts and their prices. The first person whom I spoke to said that they would email it to me but when I called back when I didn't receive it, the other person said that they can't send it to me. They've also told us that they cannot furnish us the prices of the parts and the heat exchanger that the vendor has said were needed to be replaced. When I spoke with the vendor, they confirmed that per their contract, they're not allowed to tell us how much it cost so I'd like a little more transparency there just in terms of the cost but other than that, it's fine.

However, I've had trouble with going online in the past and getting the claim to go through or with the website not recognizing my phone number or address. I panicked, thinking something is wrong with our policy. And then, I called them and they said it's fine, so I stopped messing with it and I just call. The reps have always been very polite and they’ve always sent out great contractors. The repairs all work when the techs are done and they always clean up after they're finished. For a while, there was nothing going wrong in the house and I almost told my husband to get rid of our American Home Shield, but then everything started breaking. So, it's been a life-saver and I'm glad that we had it. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I get my heating system checked twice a year -- once for air and once for heat. The guy who came, who I've had service from, checked the heating on one of my units. It was running before he stopped it and did the checks. When he tried to start it up again it would not start up. He checked everything and he saw that it was the gas valve. I asked him what was going to happen and he told me that I was going to pay for service. He then left to go and check and see if they had a partner with a special order price. After two hours he didn’t come back so I called to find out what was going on. He told me it was a special order price and he had to order the part. I told him that would have been nice if he had told me and that this is not needed to be just hanging out.

While the contractor was here I called American Home Shield and they told me that they would set up an appointment so that somebody can come and look at the unit. I then set the appointment up for that Wednesday. When the other company called back they told me that the part wouldn't come in until Thursday so I told them that they can come on Thursday.

Meanwhile the guy that AHS sent came that Wednesday and checked the unit. He told me that the gas valve was bad and that they have the part in their truck since my unit was a Goodman and it uses a standard valve. He then installed the valve and I was very impressed and satisfied. AHS found a person who knew what he was doing, found the problem, fixed it and when he left the ac was already working. He was efficient and on time. When the other guys called that day I told them that I don't need them to come back because they were going to charge me a lot and that I found somebody who tells me the truth and treats me like a customer.

There was a leak in a pipe and it was coming up under my carpet. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was simple and it was easy. I submitted online and then once they start working, they called me. They have good customer service. However, there's a disconnect between the contractors and American Home Shield. I scheduled an appointment and then the company calls me to tell me they can't make it. I've already taken a day off and spent the day at home waiting for them to call me and then they said they can't make it because their technician had an emergency or there was something that might have been more priority to them. At that point, there's no benefit to me. I've already lost a day at work.

AHS was able to send a new contractor but it was in two days later. They should know what their contractors are doing. If I have the option and if it continued to happen this way, and AHS is not tracking what their contractors do, then I would be willing to go to another company. But as far as if what they repaired is working, it works and I'm happy with that. AHS came through for me every time I needed them and I'd recommend them.

Our dishwasher had gone out and I filed a claim with American Home Shield. It was a good experience, except the whole thing took forever because of the lack of communication. I called it in at the end of July but the job got finished just three weeks ago. I first filed the claim online and they sent somebody out. My husband dealt with the contractor and he was very impressed. The contractor did a good job and tried to fix the dishwasher, but it was past fixing. He was able to take the whole situation and make us feel better about it. However, they didn't let me know that I was supposed to get back with them on the type of dishwasher that I wanted.

Since it was taking so long, I called to see what's going on. The first time I called, I left a message, but I didn't get a call back for several days. In the meantime, I called the person who worked on the dishwasher and asked him what the status was. He told me that AHS was supposed to have ordered me a dishwasher and asked if I wasn't informed about it. AHS ordered the dishwasher, but when they sent it, they didn't send all the parts. The guy who came to install it had to order the missing parts and it took forever to arrive. The dishwasher has been used a few times since its installation and it's all good. All in all, I've had good luck with AHS and they've been very good about sending someone out. It just took a lot longer than I think it should have.

The microwave oven recently quit working and the techs sent by American Home Shield came out and looked at it, and figured out what's wrong with it. Then, they came out again after they got the parts and put it back together, hung it back above the stove. I paid them $75 and they left. They did a good job and they knew what they're doing, and that's what's important to me. They didn't have to guess about it. Now the oven's working really well.

However, American Home Shield had explained to me on the phone that I would have to send the check to them. Then, the day of the service, the lady from American Home Shield called us and said I had to pay the techs. I said that I was told not to, but now she's saying I had to. They said they're changing their policy and apparently, the day after I had to get a hold of them to complain, I had a two-hour wait on the phone. I have talked to people there four times, and they have not fixed it yet. I'm getting upset about it because I did pay and I got proof. It's just $75 but that's a shame 'cause it's not necessary. But they've done really well for us. We've been with them for 15 years with every problem we've ever had, and they've done everything that I needed done and I like them. This unfortunate thing that's going on is a mix-up in their policy. I'm sure that eventually they'll get it fixed.

I had an electrical issue where the dryer wouldn’t dry, and the guy from Frank’s Electric, the company that American Home Shield used, did an exceptionally good job. He had two intermittent problems that he had to figure out, so he had to spend a bunch of time doing the testing to figure it out. At first, he thought it was the dryer, and then he had to isolate over and above one connection to two connections. One, being the breaker and the panel box, and the other, the electrical connection that the dryer plugs into. Normally these things are either hot or not. But this was intermittent, so trying to diagnose it was pretty difficult.

What I don’t like, however, is that originally, when I submit a claim, I first get someone out here, and then I pay them $75. That was what they told me in the contract. Now, all of a sudden, they said that I couldn’t do that anymore, and had to put my credit card on their website so they charge it automatically. I don’t keep my credit online. So, having my information sitting there is just another vulnerable thing on the web, and I don’t particularly like it. There’s also slowness in some of the contractors getting out there, which I don’t think AHS controls. I once had a plumbing issue where I had to call them a couple times, which cost $75 a pop, and then it took four days before they got out here. And nobody came back to me and say sorry that it took them four days.

Eventually, I had to go out and dig up the line where it connected to the city sewer. Then I called to talk to a guy, and they tell me that they don’t pay for that. I pulled up the contract, and it does say that. So, it was my fault that I didn’t read it deep enough when I signed up. I got it now and learned my lesson, but it cost me $1200. Overall, my experience with AHS was sometimes good, and sometimes, it was bad. They are a victim of the people they use, so they could use somebody else.

I've been with American Home Shield since April. In October, my refrigerator was making a funny noise and going out, so I called AHS and submitted a claim. They called me back, then they texted to me the number of the contractor that they were sending out. The contractor was very courteous and knowledgeable. I called the contractor and they got the information on the problem. They said that they would try to send someone out the same day, if possible, and that the guy would call before he comes late in the afternoon. Just like they said, the guy called before he came and he got here at 5:00 PM. He checked the refrigerator and he said that the compressor was going out and that it could last a day and may be gone by tomorrow. Then he said that he was going to contact me.

A couple of days later, someone contacted me and told me what was going on. AHS replaced my refrigerator and the replacement ref is doing good. I have an Amana ref now and it is smaller inside than the LG ref I had before. The only thing is that the Amana ref has its icemaker sitting inside the ref, so it takes a lot of space. But other than that, the ref works good and we get cold water every time.

I had a policy with Choice Home Warranty before, but I was not pleased with them at all. On the other hand, I've had very good service from AHS and I'd recommend them to anyone. I've passed on the number of AHS to my parents who had another home warranty company that they weren't pleased with and I've also passed it on to several people in the company that we work with. Our water bill had gone skyrocketing for two months, so we had the water company come out to have them check it. They said that it wasn’t their leak, and that it was somewhere on our side of the meter then charged us $35. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a leak and couldn’t find it. Then I told them that I needed somebody that can find the leak, and they said okay. They charged me $75, and then they sent out a plumbing company. And though the plumber who came got paid, he couldn’t find the leak. He then said that we needed a leak specialist, and that we would have to pay $450 to have somebody come out and find the leak. So, we paid him the $450, then the leak specialist came. He had specialized tools to find the leak, so he found it right away. He was able to do the repair, and the whole thing cost us about $1000.

The leak specialist wanted to get paid, so we told him that we already paid the plumber to pay him. That got straightened out, but the plumber took another $100 fee although American Home Shield already paid him $75. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that I paid $75 for somebody to come out, but all he did was call the leak specialist and charge me money. So, the plumber got $75 for not doing anything, and another $100 for calling a leak specialist. I then told American Home Shield that I wanted my $75 back, and the representative responded that they were sorry, but we had to pay the $75 no matter what happens.

So, I argued that I asked them to send somebody who could find and fix the leak, but they didn’t even send the right person, and she said that there was nothing she could do. So, I asked for a supervisor and she told me that they were not available, but she’ll put a note to for them call me. That was 5 days ago. So, now, I’m waiting for a callback from a supervisor. In the meantime, the leak cost us cost us another month of high water bills, so we’re out of a lot of money. I understand that things cost. But for me to pay American Home Shield $75 for nothing does not seem fair to me.

So, I spoke to AHS, and they were pleasant and eager to get the issue resolved. So, now they’re back to work on it.

This contractor’s been good. But I’ve had someone horrible come up before, and AHS had to send someone else. I've had this paperwork. But the contractor came out and basically told me that there was nothing that he could do. And then, whenever I called back to speak with a representative, they called him, and once the representative talked to him, she saw his attitude for herself. So, she was the one who suggested that they just contact another contractor. And I said that I was on board with that because I'd rather not even deal with him. And she said, "I can see why you would say that." So, she got someone else out within a couple of days, and they took care of it. It was easy-breezy from there. AHS is definitely good to have, and I have recommended them. It’s better that having to go out and purchase things, and you’ll never know how good it is until you actually need it.

I had to go to a hotel and when I filed my claim, it was Thursday so the techs weren't able to come out until Monday. When they came out Monday, American Home Shield called me up. They said that the issue was outside in my yard and since it's not inside the house, they wouldn't cover it. That was very frustrating and very upsetting. The kind and location of the plumbing issue should have been part of the questions when the appointment was made. If they asked for those details and I knew they won't cover the repair, I could’ve already had another plumber out here at that time. I also spent days in a hotel for nothing.

It was a problem because I have eight kids at home and we've been burning up. My wife called American Home Shield and they taught her how to file a claim online. Then she got a callback about the appointment a few days later and the guy showed up a week after. It took AHS about 2 weeks to do the service appointment and that's a part we were a little upset about.

The guy who came was the best. He was awesome, had a great demeanor, personality and his vibe was really good. He was honestly there to try to help. He went in there with vacuum cleaners and when he pulled the cover off of the air conditioning unit, he saw that two wires were black like they were burning up so he replaced those. But the two wires is not why the air-conditioning wasn't working, so he did what he did and put covers back on and left our place clean. The air conditioner started working again and it was better than before. It was a blessing and we’re happy. I'm a car salesman and I've actually recommended AHS to my customers.

That was five days ago. They told me that they are going to send someone in on Tuesday, and that they’re going to sheetrock it. But they said that they don’t paint, which I don’t understand why. It was their contractor’s fault, he did it, so they should take care of the entire problem.

But it hasn’t been inspected yet, so I don’t know if he did it the right way. Hopefully it gets inspected by next week. But the main problem was the hot water heater and I went without hot water all weekend. And the leak in the sink kept dripping all weekend so I had to have someone else come out and fix it. That wasn't a good experience. But other than that, American Home Shield has been very good for me and I’ve recommended them a lot.

I have a plumbing problem on a shower and submitted a claim online. They responded to me almost immediately and the next day, I had a plumber scheduled. The contractor seemed to be quite knowledgeable and very personable. He explained what he discovered, recommended that I didn't need a plumber and indicated what I needed to do to solve my problem. I'm still getting it fixed but I’ve been exceptionally pleased with American Home Shield. They have done everything they said they would do and responded to contacts that I've made to them promptly. All the experiences I've had with the people that they have sent out has also been very good. I highly recommend them and have done so to several of my friends.

We purchased our house on the 7th of August and got American Home Shield immediately. The person from N&K that initially came out for our Sub-Zero icemaker didn’t do the job, and we had to call for a follow up. Then, trying to get them back out, he would not return my call after I left three voice messages. So, I then called through to American Home Shield. They assigned another person to come out and this person was excellent.

We also had a hot water problem and I called American Home Shield to have someone come out. The contractor told me that it was a hot water heater that needed to be replaced and then I had them go ahead and do it. When I sent the paperwork across for a claim to the company, American Home Shield denied it saying that in order for us to do that, it had to be done by one of their service people. I had not called because I already had the people out there on what we thought was a different issue, but it wasn’t. I would certainly have liked to have gotten what I thought I was getting when I failed to make the call to their person. It was my error, but it was a costly one.

I have had to go online to submit claims because of the extended amount of hold time that I’ve had trying to call through and do it through the phone. It’s been an extremely long hold time with American Home Shield, taking 45 minutes to an hour. Anyone that I talk to who asks about them, I’ll be giving that same information.

Several weeks ago, I went to turn on my heat and it didn’t work. We had just renewed with American Home Shield and so, I filed the claim and went on to the website and gave a few details about the problem. After I submitted the claim, they responded with an email quickly saying the contractor would be in touch. And then, just a short time later, I got a call from JW Ultra Heating to schedule the time. We agreed on the next day and he came out on time. I was really happy with the contractor. He spent a good deal of time talking to me and telling me exactly what the problem was and how he fixed it. It was a painless process. If I have issues in the future, I would like to be able to request to have those same folks come out again.

I talked to their customer service when I was going through their renewal process right before scheduling the service. I realized that my previous contract had expired so I went to their website to try to look at my options, and I ended up chatting with the representative on the site. She was really helpful to answer my questions. Therefore, it was a good and positive interaction. As a customer, the most important thing is a quick turnaround and quality work. There’s this perception that if you’re going through your home warranty company, it’s extra overhead and it’s going to be painful. But I don’t think that reflects my experience so far. I would continue the contract with the quality folks and make sure that the repairs are handled in a timely manner.

I had a good experience with AHS. They came in at a time when we were remodeling our bathroom, so it was quite hectic. My most recent claim was for a hot water heater. There was an element inside that we learned that had to be replaced. But in order to replace it, the entire water heater had to be replaced. Submitting the claim was real easy. I contacted them directly over the phone and they said that someone would call. The next day, somebody did call and but they said it would take a week before they got out here.

But the contractor was great, courteous and professional. He explained the issue and took care of it right away. His visit was 40 minutes and that's when he said the water heater had to be replaced. He contacted American Home Shield and explained that to them. American Home Shield then called me within an hour after he left and said that it'll be replaced within 24 hours. I’ve looked into other companies that offer the same kind of thing and called them but I feel like American Home Shield is, by far, rated better than all the places I’ve talked to or looked into.

American Home Shield already had my electrical switch replaced once. I’ve had the house for 20 years and about 10 years ago, they replaced the switch. Now, I got a letter that said the switch is of the automation system in the house. There is no automation system in the house. What that switch does is when the house was built, there’s a light at the top of the stairs which lights up the stairway, and there’s a switch at the bottom and a switch at the top. It's a three-way switch and the builders forgot to run the wires. It was too late to run the wires, so what they did was they put in a radio frequency switch so you can turn on and off at the bottom. If you want to operate it from the top, it sends a signal down to the switch at the bottom.

The most recent electrician left and he didn’t understand anything. I was very unhappy with him. But AHS called me and said they were turning down my claim because of the automation. It was a really quick call and I didn’t get a chance to answer or say anything then. Now they’ve sent me a letter telling me to get in touch with them if I was not happy. I got that letter as I was leaving town, so I never had a chance to call them back. When I get back in town, I'm going to call them to explain it. But other than that, I'm still very happy with American Home Shield. I wouldn’t have had it for 21 years if I wasn't. I'm just unhappy with that one incident.

Well it's going on two weeks now still without a refrigerator.

I called. I was on the phone on hold for 2 hrs or more on when I finally did speak to someone. She tells me that they just got the service order. I was pissed off so she tells me they have to order the part and that would be back the 20 of this month. I've been with a refrigerator for that amount of time. This is unacceptable... Buyers beware. There aren't enough words to express how horrific my experience with these people has been. I received a warranty through this miserable organization as part of my home purchase and every dreadful thing I've ever heard about home warranties has proven itself out. If you are considering acquiring a warranty through this organization, think very seriously about it first. Their contract expresses what they'll cover, but in another part of the contract, the language is just vague enough, so as to give the company an excuse not to cover something.

After paying $125 for a plumber to come out for a stoppage, they denied the cost to fix the source of the problem (the previous owner installed the pipe incorrectly). But if I wanted a 2nd opinion, I could pay another $125 and they would send a second plumber out to provide one. If the second plumber agreed with the first, then they would cover the repair. But when he submitted his concurrence with the first, they denied the coverage and then denied they ever told me they would cover the repair if the 2nd opinion concurred with the first. I have been without kitchen water for 3 weeks now because of this experience.

In another case, the contractor came out, walked around, said he'd communicate with AHS and I never heard from anyone again. I was without A/C during the summer (with elderly parents and a puppy with a broken leg in the house) because of their delays. Then I was without heat because of more delays (although both problems were eventually fixed... 90 days later).

I have sat on hold multiple times for over 60 minutes waiting to speak to someone. Every single contractor who has walked through my door under an AHS repair, has expressed their similar disgust to me with how they are treated by this abominable company. Do yourself and your sanity a favor and either negotiate their "out" out or better yet, hold companies like this accountable by not giving them your money in the first place.

I signed up for American Home Shield online because when I call, I'm on hold for at least an hour and a half. There's a $75 copay each time they come out. I asked a rep and she had no idea what that was. She told me that her supervisor, Tamica, would call me back in 48 hours. I've been waiting for someone to call me back for five days now. The rep was very unprofessional and combative on the phone. When I asked her if there was no one out there to take my call, she said, "We are professionals, we're adults, we don't need supervisors". I asked her to make sure I was calling insurance so that her supervisor could listen to the call.

I have a rental property, so I've had a lot of calls to American Home Shield to come out and take a look at some things at my home and my rental property. My copay has been coming out of my account because I have to use my credit card. They're saying I haven't paid them but I have proof on my bank statements. It was a messy call.

Then, someone called me from American Home Shield stating the reason why I was denied but eventually, it got fixed by a certain company, so that's why I was confused. There were so many fine lines with American Home Shield. I've had both homes for 11 years and have been with AHS for 11 years as well. And I pay premium every month. But I'm really close to going to another company. I'm still very upset.

I had a plumbing request with American Home Shield, and the guy who came out wasn’t able to help. I purchased an older home, and he said the issue to the plumbing was preexisting from the previous owner, so it wasn’t covered by the warranty and I would have to pay $1200 out of pocket to get it fixed. I also did a request for electrical service two weeks ago, and they told me that Electrical Connections was the only company that services my area through them, but Electrical Connections is not professional and they don’t return phone calls. I’ve left them several voicemails, and I’ve yet to hear from them so I can get my electrical issues addressed. I have called American Home Shield on three occasions to let them know that I have not heard from the electrician and they have yet to get an electrician out to my home.

My heating and air were serviced. The heating was fixed, but the tech adjusted the voltage, and now it keeps throwing out all the power in my basement. I requested someone for my air, and they came too early in the day and I couldn’t take off work, so they were supposed to reschedule me to address my air issues but they never did. I told them that I had left work early on several occasions and the heating people had gone out three times. I have called American Home Shield and they said they would try to get in touch with them, and they would call me back once they did. They never returned my call and I don’t know what to do past that. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been negative, and I’ve been contemplating on canceling the service and receiving a refund.

I prefer submitting claims online because I have been placed on about an hour holds calling in because of the supposed high call volume. I don’t want to sit on hold for an hour out of my day to put in a service request, so I do it online. But when you do it online as what the plumber told me, it chooses the services that need to be addressed. They didn’t let me choose how many faucets and how much plumbing I needed to be done. They did an automatic, one faucet, one toilet type of thing, and there was nothing wrong with my commode. So, the plumber came out here with a service request for one faucet and one commode, but I have several issues.

Initially, I was told having my home on a warranty would be a good thing, but it can be frustrating because the service can be slow. And my first claim was fairly quick. They came on out and checked my heat. So I figured that it wouldn’t be as difficult, but with this electrical issue, I’m starting to see where the slowness is coming into play because I have yet to receive any results. American Home Shield should definitely get more people in their call center so customers wouldn’t have to be placed on hold for so long, and they should definitely provide more than one service provider for an area.

But when the temperature got low, we checked it for the first time and it didn't pop on. I called American Home Shield and made a claim through the automated system. I would rather talk to a live person, but they said it was busy and I didn't want to wait that long. But the automated system worked great. It said within 24 to 48 hours, somebody would call for an appointment and four hours later, somebody called to make me an appointment.

The contractors were on time and they kept in touch. My husband was there when the contractors came and he loved them. He said they were professional and that they explained what was wrong. He said he would use them again and again. Since the repair, the heater works perfectly. However, I was disappointed that they did not go in the house to make sure there was no carbon monoxide leak after they fixed it because I know it could have been leaking before, during, or after. But other than that, they were very professional over the phone and in person. I highly recommend American Home Shield if all of it is going to be that way.

Our experience with American Home Shield has not been that great. Sometimes they’re real responsive and then some other times they’re not. I don’t know if it’s just the person we happen to get, which is probably 89% of it. Their customer service needs a great deal of improvement. There were also a lot of people who had attitudes and I don’t like that. I asked for a supervisor the other day and they said they didn’t have any supervisors which I find hard to believe.

Every time we get on the phone with American Home Shield it takes at least an hour. Plus they don't take the time to really listen to the customer to find out what the real problem is either and we have had issues with American Home Shield sending out the wrong vendors. They hear a few words and then they’re off running to send someone out. The other day I went round and round with one of the reps saying we had a propane fireplace that wasn’t working. He sent out Economy Air Conditioning & Heating. If they are sent out it costs $75 and thank God I asked them before they came out whether they work on propane fire logs. They said no and that I need a different vendor. That's what I thought but I couldn't get AHS to understand that.

When they have to send out the vendor they can only send out the vendor that’s available, which is okay. But a lot of times like for the plumbing issues they send out a plumber who doesn’t have the right equipment. They refuse to send the company that we know has the right equipment. It ended up costing us $75 every time they came out yet we ended up redoing that.

One summer we had to have the heating and air conditioning unit replaced but the people who installed it did not do it correctly so when we went to turn the heat on it blew the fuse in the house. The contractors came back out but we had to get an electrician fix the breaker before they could do anything. The electrician came out and changed the breaker but he said that was not what the problem. Then American Home Shield sent out a different heating and air person and they figured it out.

The 30-amp had been hooked into the 60-amp breaker and he also discovered that we only have two heating elements on the new unit even though on our old unit we had three. So American Home Shield replaced something that was broken but they replaced it with inferior products. It is not the same. We had another air conditioning unit replaced this summer and it was a 5-ton but they replaced it with a 4-ton. It’s not as efficient because we have a huge house. We’re not happy about those types of things.

AHS sent a plumber out and he couldn't figure the issue out. He just left me in the dark of what's actually causing the leak. Some AHS contractors aren't really qualified. As far as AHS' customer service though, it's pretty good. I called in the claim for my garbage disposal. The contractor who came said the problem was wear and tear. However, he didn't really check anything. I told AHS' rep about it and they sent someone else to take a look. The second contractor checked and determined that it wasn't wear and tear. He ended up replacing it, which should have happened in the first place.

I've been using them for about seven years now. However, the price for the deductible keeps going up every year. They are a very good warranty company to work with, but, like any other company, they still have some flaws and things to work with as far as making sure they have the good contractors coming out to people's homes.

I bought a house not too long ago and I moved in and I bought the home warranty. I got some faucets that didn’t work and some parts that were broken, and American Home Shield called it all pre-existing. But I had no way to check the plumbing before I moved in, and there was no water. I've had some real problems and the thing that hurt my feelings about it was that they sent somebody out, it cost me $75 and they left. It has happened to me three or four times. The attic fan got the runaround from those guys. The electrician said it was an appliance and the appliance guy said it was the electrician. That was $150 to find out that they just blamed it on each other and I still have an attic fan that doesn’t work.

But plumbing problems, other than a water heater replacement, has been a nightmare. Then I got some pipes that were off and I had to have the house tunneled and the plumbing fixed. Now I’m having to learn how to be a plumber because a plumber wants $300 to replace a faucet and that was something I wasn't expecting. When I called the home warranty, the guy came out with a roto-rooter and he ran it down the pipe. It came back out with roots and he said, “This is where we stop. It’s got roots. It’s not under warranty.” Then he loaded up his stuff and left. I was about to spend $4,000 on a tunneling crew to come in and tunnel and replace pipes under the house but I thought that was what I bought a home warranty for. Also, I had a dishwasher in my kitchen that they said needed a belt. It took a month to get it in and by the time it did, I had given up and I just bought another dishwasher. But there was another $75 that I spent.

It has been one thing after another. I got people to come out and see me but I didn’t get any service. I really came close to canceling my service one time and getting my money back. I can take $750 to the hardware store and buy a lot of stuff and do it myself. At least there’s somebody calling for feedback because there are a lot of companies out there that don’t that. The last two times I've called for a home warranty, I had a water heater go out, and they came out and put a water heater in. It took a couple of days but they did it. And this last time, the garage door opener threw the chain off and they fixed it. The contractor they sent out took care of us and it seemed easy compared to some of the other things I’ve dealt with them. Those were two good experiences but I've only been in the house for six weeks and 90% of my claims have been declined.

They have been inconsistent because they said the faucets and the plumbing were a pre-existing condition. But I had eight light switches replaced though I haven’t worn those light switches out in a month. So, if it costs a bit of money, it’s pre-existing. If it’s cheap and we can get it knocked out really quick and easy, then we’ll do it. That was how it has been going. The only thing I've had good was the light switches and these last calls I've had a good response to. But right off the bat with my plumbing issues, it has been really frustrating for me. My seller paid for $500 of the home warranty and I went and threw in another $250 at it and said I want the best home warranty I can get, but I also need septic system warranty. If this is the best you can get, then I feel really bad for the people that are spending $500.

My AC unit upstairs wasn't cooling properly and the temperature would not drop. The contractor AHS sent was great and very professional, but I knew what the problem was because my husband's a licensed contractor. I told the contractor what we knew it was he walked me through it. My unit hasn't had service since last year, so he checked everything out, including the Freon levels. He was around for 10 minutes and he was gone, so it was easy and the AC is working very well.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 11 years and the only time I contested a situation was with an incident that happened when the home was built. My home was a brand-new construction that I built 11 years ago and there was a water leak. When somebody came out, he wanted to break down the walls upstairs, and mine came all the way down from American Home Shield. The company collected their $75 from me and they didn't do anything.

I asked for a second opinion and had another company come out. They looked and opened up the hole where the water was coming from, a cut and a plastic tubey line for the hot water that comes from upstairs for the shower downstairs. I was told it's not covered by American Home Shield and I had to come up with another $150 for this guy to cut the line and put a metal connector to plug it from one side to the other. He was out there for five minutes and in turn, I'm paying for sheetrock damage because I'd rather have sheetrocks than pay another $3.75 for them to complete them, which I knew wasn't going to be covered at all.

I felt like the previous company didn't do their job because the guy would end up with all this other extra stuff that was making the problem. In the second job, the contractor went straight to the problem and fixed it. I had a leak previously in my kitchen when one of the main pipes coming in have burst in the wall, and that was covered. As the customer, everything should be covered without the pre-existing conditions. It's a condition I didn't know anything about and I was upset with American Home Shield. If I knew the AC wasn't working properly, and continued to run it like that, then I caused that damage. But I made a call as soon as I saw the problem. If I waited six months, that should be on me because I knew I had a problem six months ago and I let it keep going this way.

I recently had three services for my dishwasher, a refrigerator and the stove all at the same time. The filter in the refrigerator was changed, and the refrigerator sometimes makes a huge grinding noise. But the tech said that when we pile up the very top shelf, that’s why it makes that noise. Submitting the claim online was difficult. There was something asking the same situation again and again, and it was awkward. I called but it was already recorded in the system. That’s not in the customer’s best interest. American Home Shield should make their site user-friendly. I also didn’t have a good experience with Value Appliances. Because of them, I tackled Home Shield's service for a while and I didn’t reinstate, but Home Shield was able to fix it for me.

It took a little while to get them here, but we were having a hurricane at the same time so it was understandable. They texted me saying when they were going to come and they came within the allotted time. So it all worked out fine. The one we have on our residence is great. We had two experiences and the ones who came to our house were good. They were professional. But with the other house, I never got the end with American Home Shield. I’m being debited for $100 and I don't know what happened at the end if the washing machine and the dishwasher got fixed.

I submitted a claim on the computer for the molding on our refrigerator that wasn't holding a seal, and American Home Shield called right back and scheduled the appointment, which was good. But the service guy didn't come in their bracketed time. We called them and told them we wanted them early. Instead, they missed the deadline by half an hour and caused us to miss our schedule all day. The person answering the phone from the contractor's side was impersonal and despite two requests to come early in the window they gave, she just said they couldn't handle it, and that wasn't the way it worked.

When the service guy was here, he had trouble accepting our explanation that the molding around the refrigerator door needed to be replaced. It didn't close securely every time but the issue was it did sometimes, and he didn't see the problem when he was here. We're worried that the refrigerator might not close, and therefore, stuff could eat up and become damaged. But as the guy said, we just have to be sure to push it securely every time. He finally but reluctantly agreed to do it, and he ordered a new part. But we haven't had it fixed yet. And the problem was a modest one and we'll see what happens when he fixes it. I like American Home Shield. It's the contractor that was the problem in this case.

We've had the American Home Shield policy at various times on various homes for years. We had a plumbing call recently at our second residence. My husband submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and the process was easy. However, we were not 100% satisfied with the outcome. The plumbers told us that we had too much water pressure, and we felt like the faucet needed to be replaced, it made a thumping noise, but they wouldn't replace it. So, we ended up just closing out the claim, but we had checked with our water department in the city of Waxahachie, and the water pressure was not an issue. So, we still feel like it just needs a new faucet.

In the beginning, we didn't have any water pressure coming out of the faucet, or it was low water pressure. And so, my husband got under the sink and tried to adjust the water valve underneath the sink, and then all of a sudden, I had no water at all. So, that was why we made the initial call. And then the plumbers came out, and they told us that we had issues with the faucet, that there was trash in their line of the faucet. They cleaned that out and then I had water pressure. But a day after they left, when you turn the faucet on, it'd go "Ka-plunk", and then all of a sudden it would make a "Wheee" sound, a really high pitch. And I actually got that on video, so I could show how it was doing.

I had four calls and I had them out there four times. They came out again, and this time they told me that the valve in the faucet was bad, that they needed a new valve. They came out and unscrewed the faucet and put a valve on the part where the water runs out. The faucet doesn't go "Wheee" sound anymore, but it has a pop when you turn it on. This was the fourth call, and one of the plumbers went out to check our water pressure at our line and they were claiming that we had way too much water pressure. And in order to fix that, it was going to cost $1007 which was just ridiculous. And so, we said, "No, we're not doing that". So, I just closed the claim out. I have water pressure now, but it still makes this plunking sound. I said I'll just deal with it but it's not fixed. I liked the plumbing company initially, they were responsive. This issue just turned into a huge headache. I wish American Home Shield would send a plumber and put a new faucet in my sink.

American Home Shield have always handled their business when it comes to any of my orders. When I had a leak in my pipe, they immediately had someone to come in and fix it. But a hole was left in my sheet wall and it's been two weeks that they haven't fixed it. I'm going to call American Home Shield back because they didn't send the order in to the contractor. The company is ready to do it but they're not going to without an approval from American Home Shield because they need to make sure that they're going to get paid. I already made the schedule with their people and I just need American Home Shield to send the approval over.

Other than that, everyone of the contractors who came out have always been professional and helpful. When my GE refrigerator went out and it drove me crazy, American Home Shield also replaced my refrigerator. I waited for GE to do that for five years but American Home Shield did it instantly for me. I filed the claim as soon as the contract was over and I upgraded it. For me to upgrade it from black to the stainless-steel cost $371 originally, but American Home Shield did something and I ended up paying only $171.

The contractors that American Home Shield sent out also did exactly what they were supposed to do and were very courteous. There has been a delay in the repair of the sheet wall but if I call today and I can't get it resolved, then it will be a problem. Part of it is because I could've called sooner but I kept forgetting. American Home Shield should've put the order in, but I should have made a follow-up. I also have an issue with their automated system and it's something that I don't like. When I call, there's no button to push to get a live person. Somebody gave me a number and that's the only way I might be able to get to them. I could go online and send an email, but if I don't want to and if my computer is down, I don't know how else I could reach them. I would recommend American Home Shield to someone but this company needs to figure out how somebody can get to a live person.

We have three policies with American Home Shield for three rental rooms up in Reno, Nevada. The programs are under me and my son’s name. My son lives in Reno, so when we need to submit a claim, he would contact the renter, then me, and I would call AHS or go online to set it up. Then the renter or my son would be contacted to set up the time to do the work. I submitted a claim to have a kitchen faucet replaced on a Thursday, and it only took a couple of days max for them to make a contact back with me to get the process going. I figured that the weekend was coming up, so I called the renter and asked if they got a call from the plumbing company, and she replied that she hasn’t heard from them yet. So, I got a hold of the plumbing company by Monday morning, and they said that they’ve already contacted the renter, and they’ve set up the time to go do the work. The renters said that everything went well. The contractors came, took care of the issue, and the renters were really happy with what they did.

I tried to switch my heating over to the air conditioning. But when I tried to switch it over, I didn't have heat or cooling. It turned out to be the thermostat. I had forgotten that I got American Home Shield so I looked around myself in the area and found a place. Then I realized that maybe I should look through AHS's brochure and sure enough, the warranty covered it. When I called, AHS said they had to have their own people come in and so something was set up supposedly. They called me and I talked to those people. I waited another three weeks in a 100-degree weather without air conditioning. I finally called, about three times, and they finally got someone out here. It wasn't the best experience for that one.

On the other hand, the contractor was great. Once they got here, everything was straightened out. The person that came was extremely professional and had the thermostat fixed within 15 minutes. The thermostat I had, it was called a LUX Pro and he said that they've had nothing but problems with those. I got a basic thermostat that has a little computer where I can just switch it back to air conditioning, the heat, and nothing. So, it's simple for me. However, when AHS was dealing with them, there was some miscommunication going on. I finally got their number directly and talked to them. The contractor was here within two days and everything worked out great. When my contract expires I'm going to renew it.

Submitting the claim was okay. I called the 1-800 number and the person at American Home Shield set it up for me. The interaction with the rep was good and they contractor sent by American Home Shield was also okay.

However, the contractor needs to come back out and he's unaware now that the plumbing needs to be done so I got to call him and let him know. Maybe American Home Shield could also re-assess their rule of every time something goes wrong, you have to pay up $75 for different services. When you call them out and you've got a couple of things that are not right for you, they should be able to take care of that under that one $75 fee, instead of each. The electrical is $75, the plumbing is $75 and everything is separate. They could have a better system than that. Not everybody can afford that and it's just too much.

I was told by the techs, "We could repair it, but we can't guarantee that the AC unit will last you for another couple of months. You're going to have to keep paying and then you'll eventually have to get a new unit." So, I went ahead and got a new one. I am very disappointed in the way my issue has been handled. I called AHS on 11/6 to request service on my refrigerator which was not cooling. I talked with the contractor Advance Service Center on 11/7 who advised they could not come to my home until 11/9. The technician came on 11/9 and within 5 minutes advised me that my control board was bad and he would have to order one. Another tech came on 11/16. He replaced the board, but it did not resolve the problem. After trying everything he could do he advised me that he did not know what was wrong with the refrigerator and would have to get a senior technician to come out. I received a call later advising me that it would be Tuesday 11/21 before he could come. That’s 2 days before Thanksgiving. I called AHS to see if they could replace refrigerator so I would have cooling to unthaw turkey and ham I needed to cook on 11/22.

I spoke with William who advised me that they could not replace my refrigerator until the contractor submitted a request stating they could not repair the refrigerator and it needed to be replaced. There was no concern regarding me having no refrigerator to use to prepare for our Thanksgiving dinner. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he said there was no supervisor or anyone else there I could speak with. I have been a customer for many years. I always pay AHS on time. I feel that I should have received more consideration since a refrigerator is a necessity in my household every day not just because Thanksgiving was coming up, I do think more emphasis is needed when a customer is without an appliance like a refrigerator. I will rethink my future as a AHS customer.

Everything that they have repaired has been working as expected. I've submitted a claim for my heater just today. It was hot in July and my AC wasn't working. It's a wall unit which I've had for three years. It's the one in the family room which cools majority of the two-bedroom condo. It's where everybody gathers, watches TV, and have dinner so it was the important one. I normally go by phone to submit a claim. They were always good and helpful but the only issue I have is that a lot of times, they're tied up and I would be on hold for 40 minutes. So, I put it on speaker phone, sit there and watch TV while waiting. But once I talk to a representative, everything's great. They always solve everything for me.

Somebody came out and took 10 days to submit the claim because they're backed up and busy. I called Home Shield asking what's going on and they said they can't tell what I had with what the guy wrote but they'd tell the company to send somebody more senior and somebody that does it all the time, which they did. They sent someone out the second time and then they came out the third time to do the actual replacement.

At first, I was a little frustrated. Then when the guy came and did it, they were wonderful and apologetic. They yanked the wall unit, put the new one in and were done in an hour. But the entire process took two months. So through the sweltering summer, I went without an air conditioning unit. I opened windows and got some breeze to come in. I also brought a fan in and had it blowing in nice, cool air. So, even without the AC, I made the best of it. However, it would be nice for somebody to come out the next day but I understand that the busiest time for the AC people is during the summer. In the end, it got fixed. I’m going to stick with AHS and keep my policy for next year 'cause I have a couple of other wall units which I hope won't go. And I'd definitely recommend them to a friend. But I suggest that they'd get more people so there won't be such a wait time.

My experience with AHS has been perfectly awful. We just moved into the house two months ago and the stove broke down sometime after we moved in. We were trying to bake a pizza in the built-in oven, then the stove just shut down. It turned out that it wasn’t steaming properly. It's hard to eat and it’s becoming hard to do Thanksgiving. We attempted to activate the warranty. People came and did some parts that weren’t available. It went into this spiral of nobody getting back to us from AHS to where they’re trying to rebuild the parts. Plus, we’ve been told it could be upwards of three months before those parts are rebuilt.

We spent 40 minutes on hold to make the initial appointments and then three hours the other day trying to get some resolution. However, my wife was treated rudely by virtually everyone she encountered. There was one woman who was at least kind enough to tell my wife, "I've got to put you on hold or I’ll get back to you." Everybody that my wife ended up talking to was nothing short of rude.

The vendors that AHS hired to do the work has been great. They’ve really kept us in the loop. Plus, they can get through to the warranty company much easier than the we can. They told us there are three things wrong with the stove, but they can’t work on the other two things until the hinges get fixed. Even though it’s only a six-year old stove, for whatever reason, the hinges are no longer available.

We’re still waiting for a resolution on what they’re going to do. We keep getting told that we’re going to get called back. However, if it weren’t for the vendor calling and telling us things, we wouldn’t have heard anything from AHS. We got a hold of the local representative who has been very attentive and got somebody to call us.

They certainly have demonstrated customer service in terms of being apathetic in trying to help us, but they’re constrained by what the home office will let them do. In some cases, they’re only able to get the same information that we were getting from the appliance repair place. Tonight, we had a lengthy conversation with the local rep and he’s assured us that he’s going to do what he can and get back to us on Monday with some resolutions. Locally, the service has been really good. The call center is the place where we’ve had nothing but bad luck.

We also had an issue with the refrigerator. They sent out a different guy and he was great. The vendors that they get certainly are positive and are great to work with. He came out and resolved the situation with some parts. When the problem reoccurred, we called and they got a hold of him. He came back and ordered some more parts.

We’ve had American Home Shield out so many time since we bought our house. We’ve had various things repaired, and every time they came, they were wonderful. We either call or go online to request a service person, and then we get an email almost right away that somebody’s going to be contacting us within a short period of time, which they do. They would call us back, and then we’d tell them what’s up. They would then send the applicable service person out, and we have had some very good ones. For our claims on our current house, everybody has been really good. The electrician was fantastic, and the plumber, as well as the guy who came to fix my stove was good. We’ve been very impressed and I kept their business cards in case I need an electrician and didn’t want to go through American Home Shield for some reason, or if I just want someone to come out and do something that my policy doesn’t cover.

On the other hand, in my other house, which I just sold, I was not as pleased as I am now. I had an issue with my air conditioning, so I had my old air conditioning guy come out first because I didn’t realize that I also had American Home Shield then. He told me that I had a leak in my compressor, and that it’ll be expensive. He said that I could get through probably a little while longer, but will eventually need a new unit. So, I asked him how much it would cost, and that I had this thing called American Home Shield. So, he told me that I should call them because it will save me a lot of money. So, I didn’t have him do the work, but asked him to leave a note on all the information on what he found to be the problem was, which he did.

The guy from AHS came as week later, and I told him that we already had somebody and had him write down what he found on an invoice, but the AHS guy replied that he didn’t see anything wrong, and he’ll just give us some Freon. He said that he didn’t diagnose the hole in the compressor, and that he couldn’t take the other guy’s work because the other guy was somebody we had besides him.

The first guy that I had come out could have made a lot of money off of me, but he chose to be honest and told me to call AHS. And he was a reputable person from a professional company, so I know that there was something wrong with the air conditioner, but the AHS guy said that he couldn’t do that work on our AC because he didn’t do the diagnosis. He just blew me off even if I had proof in writing, from a very reputable company, of what was wrong with our air conditioning unit. But I paid him $75, and that kind of annoyed me. But, it’s all said and done now, and it’s over with. I did wind up taking a contract with Total Air and Heat who’s an amazing company and they replaced my air conditioning system when the time came and I trust them.

I had a microwave issue, so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. Typically, it takes them a while to call back, so I like working on the phone because it expedites the contractors, and also because I can get a phone number and actually give the contractors a call. That way, I can make my appointments instead of waiting for them to call. The lady I talked to was attentive and didn’t need a lot of directions. When they sent the contractor, my daughter was at home, and she had nothing but very positive things to say. She doesn’t give out compliments easily, so the contractor was pretty good.

I’ve been with AHS for more than 10 years, and there was a time when the contractors they sent told me something that was not what I needed to hear, and were not as reputable. So, that was not good business. Also, the price has been raised in the last few years, so I think that someone that has been with them for a while could have some kind of plan where they lower the price for each year you’ve been with them.

I’ve had no issues with the appliances then. I've had a good experience and I like using AHS. It's very convenient and it’s a very immediate process. The home I moved to needed a lot of things repaired so I use AHS a lot.

The representatives were very helpful and once the contractor looked at the washer he knew the problem right away. It was a very good experience overall. I had some reservations in the beginning, even before I purchased the protection plan, but I was very happy with the results. They were very professional from beginning to end. Anyone I talked to over the phone, anyone that came to the home to analyze the issue and who came and installed the washer, were all very professional and very timely.

I filed my initial claim for my dishwasher on July 14. The first company that came out took three visits and it did not go well. I did a background check on the company and found that it's a little mom and pop shop about 45 miles away from here. The family runs an independent convenience store and probably decided to go into the appliance repair business. They would not provide any licensing or permit from the state. After their third visit, I called AHS and told them they needed to get somebody else in here to fix my dishwasher. By then, it was already the end of August.

We're in the Fredericksburg area and they tried to send somebody else who had a DC number. I asked the contractor for their license number for Virginia but they refused to provide it to me. They told me that since they're just fixing a dishwasher, they didn't need to give it to me. I told them I wanted to make sure that they were permitted and that they knew what they were doing since they were going to our rental property and the family had young children. Since they refused, I called AHS back and I spent 90 minutes on hold before I got somebody. The third company they gave me was absolutely wonderful and they sent a technician out, found the problem and fixed it.

The unit was a Samsung and their dishwashers are not as good as some of their other appliances. After the tech's third visit and repairing a couple of things, AHS said that the dishwasher needed to be replaced. I could either choose from a little GE list they sent me or they would give me $742 to get what I wanted. Using the $742, we paid for a Bosch. It's now November 10th and the replacement was just installed yesterday.

The wait times have been an issue with AHS. The last couple of times I called weren't as bad and I had to wait for only 10 minutes. But a month, when I was trying to follow up, one call took me 95 minutes before I was able to talk to their CSR. We have two contracts with AHS, one with a property that we rent out and the other with the home we own and occupy. We were at the point of saying, "forget it" and switch companies. But AHS redeemed themselves with by getting a decent company to do the repair.

We started with them in 2010 and never had any problems with them. Then we moved a couple of years ago and we re-established services with them this year. It was then that we found that they really seem to have gone downhill, especially when trying to contact customer service. If you can get what you needed to be done through the automated system, that's all well and good, but if you actually need to talk to a CSR, you're going to have to wait and wait. But, once you talk to somebody, they get things done.

I've been with American Home Shield since the end of May. I recently had two back-to-back claims within a couple of days of each other. One was for a plumber and the other was for HVAC. For the plumber, I had a leak. Aside from that, there were a few other things around the house, like the chains on the toilet kept popping off. I also had water that would spray out from the faucet in my kitchen sink. The tech fixed it, but even now from time to time, water will still spray outside of the faucet. My partner has also been noticing it, so I’m going to give them a call before the 30 days are up. For the HVAC, the issue was that the air downstairs wasn’t working. We dropped the temperature a little bit, then we started smelling a burnt smell so we turned everything off. But the HVAC guys came out and they were very quick. Within an hour they discovered the issue and resolved it.

I didn’t have any issues with either of the two crews. The plumber came out by himself and for the HVAC, there were two guys. Both crews were nice, courteous and knowledgeable. The plumber got back to me within the same day. Someone called and scheduled an appointment with me. With the HVAC, I did it over the weekend, but Monday morning someone was on the case. It was very easy for me to schedule the appointment, ‘cause I didn’t have to take time away from my day or my schoolwork to sit on the phone and wait with anyone. I love the fact that I could just log on and set up everything from there.

My dishwasher wasn't going through the cycle properly and it kept on running and running. I called American Home Shield and got a great representative. They sent over a technician and he was awesome. He said that the control panel was messed up and a new one was needed. My unit and kitchen are white and AHS couldn't find a control panel in that color. They found one in black, but I didn't want it so they offered to give me the amount for the part in lieu of repairing it. They paid for about a third of the new dishwasher that I purchased. We had to pay $119 for installation though because AHS wouldn't pay for that.

One time I called, they said that they didn't have any people available and to call back at a different time then hung up on me. When I finally called back, I had to wait 20 minutes and I finally got somebody. They said not to call on Mondays and Fridays. AHS needs more people on their telephones since customer service is very important. Everything is not hunky-dory there. They want everybody to do it through the internet but old people, like myself, don't do that. I don't feel comfortable going online. AHS needs to accommodate older people better. Other than that I've been with AHS for four months now and they have been great. I'm very satisfied and I would recommend them to a friend.

I called American Home Shield when the fridge door wasn't shutting. The person who came out was awesome, a 100% triple A! We had to order whatever closes the door at the end and replace it. The same thing on the dishwasher -- it was running all the time because it was not going in and clicking. He had to order a part and replace that closing part, which took 10 days. Then, he had it all done within less than an hour at that time. And then, there was a complaint from the inspector that one of the burners didn't work and he was able to fix that right on the spot, so that’s the three things he fixed.

It took him an hour the first time he did the diagnosis and everything. And I asked him a question, I said, "I have another refrigerator that's not making ice. It doesn’t make any sense." So, he looked at it for me. It wasn’t part of it. He said, “I don’t know if that’s current." I said, "Probably not." He said, "Let's do this, this and this.” So, I did what he told me and that fixed it. He did that as a courtesy, which was really nice. He was quick, and he wanted to get the job done. I think he’s the one that owns the company. I look for quality and I can tell if somebody is BS. This guy was all business. The diagnosis, the treatment, it was just perfect. I would use him anytime, every time!

We were having a lot of trouble with the air conditioning keeping at the set temperature that we set it at and it was running much hotter that it should have. We kept monitoring it then as the days got a little cooler, it still was barely keeping it at a temperature. So we decided to have it serviced and checked before winter comes. I called AHS and set up the appointment. The reps I talked to were very efficient, professional and told me the day that the tech would come.

The contractor who came out was great. He sent us an email about the time that he was coming but at 8:00 o’clock in the morning, we don’t ever look at our emails. So we didn’t know what time he was going to come but we knew that he was coming that day. He came in at 8:00 o’clock and was very efficient. He figured because of the temperature drop, there must be a leak. So he climbed up in and checked everything with the machinery. Then he said there didn’t seem to be a leak and he was shocked. We’re still shocked about it. But there has to be leak somewhere because he put in two pounds of the refrigerant which was very expensive. So we had paid him when he was done.

AHS warned us that we would have to pay for the refrigerant though I didn’t realize it ahead of time. It’s probably in the paperwork and in the fine print. But we really appreciated that they sent an email a day or two before the actual work was done, warning us that we would have to pay for the refrigerant because it was so expensive now. Without that warning, we would have thought the contractor was gouging us. So that was good that the company does that. So far, it’s a little hard to tell if what the tech did worked because we had the air conditioning on one day and it was fine, but it was not super hot. We’ll find out once the heat pump comes on.

I’ve only used American Home Shield twice but I found it to be extremely easy. The only issue I have is it’s so hard getting in touch with them. One has to hang on the phone for 35 minutes, if not longer. Now, they have a set up on the internet where one can make a claim, which is fine, but it’s hard to describe what the problem is. It’s a check-the-box situation, like plumbing, and then they ask what one has a problem with. The toilet kept running and running and I didn’t know whether to put toilet or sink. If they could have a little box where we could go into depth a little bit, that would be easier.

American Home Shield calls a company and then we’d get a call from that company and they tell us that the tech will come the next day between some times. I was fortunate enough to have the same contractor both times and it was great each time. I was apprehensive about the thing and I thought it’d be a long wait and they wouldn’t show up. But I’m very satisfied on these two occasions. They came in, identified the problem, and went right to work. It didn’t take them long and there wasn't no hanging around, which I love. They were extremely professional and helpful. For the toilet, the tech ended up using the snake and if I could have talked to someone then he would have known. But it wasn’t a problem as he had the equipment when he came.

Having American Home Shield's service to help out is good. I’m coming up on my one year and we'll definitely renew because I'm retired now and it’s hard to get off a certain amount of money. Now, the American Home Shield expects their money when we make the appointment and I can understand that because that’s not their company that’s coming out. So, we call and make payment online but what would be good is if they give us a chance to pay in two parts.

However, I had a problem with the first technician. He does not want to come after a week and can only do with a sudden time but I couldn't lose my whole day. So, I complained a couple of times to AHS and they gave me a number directly and I just handled it with them. The second technician was very good.

The person who answered the phone is the owner. So, when you talked to the owner, things happen. He gave me a direct line to his cell and whenever I called or texted him, he replied right away. And then, his technician came in and he was good. He didn't have to replace the whole thing. He said the heater was gone so he ordered the parts and replaced it. And then, he couldn't do it because there was a havoc in between. So then, he came and fixed it. I also asked him to check something else and he was glad to help me. Overall, I'm happy and I would definitely recommend AHS to people.

I had a leak underneath my house and I called American Home Shield. My most recent call was a little bit kind of rude. Basically what American Home Shield said was that they couldn’t and wouldn't really help me with my issue anymore. And the woman on the phone was just kind of condescending like, “Oh, look sir. I’m not under your house. I’m not seeing your pipe. All I got is this screen in front of me.” Just like, "There’s nothing I can do or say. It’s just the way it is." I felt like there was a disconnect from the people who are working in customer service and what the customers’ actual issues may be.

I felt like there was nothing that could be done. It’s just more like, “Hey, I’m reading information that someone else has typed in, and I’m just the bearer of the message. That’s it.” Also I've had a technician come out three times. The first time he said he fixed it and then it was still leaking under the house so I called again. The second time the guy did nothing except just turn off my main water supply. The third time he came out he goes, “Yeah, I fixed it.” And then it was leaking again. So the three times that someone came out it was never ever, ever fixed. So now I’m actually having a regular plumber that I found outside of American Home Shield to come today to fix my issue because this whole American Home Shield warranty thing just did not work out for me.

    Reviewed Nov. 16, 2017

We've been with American Home Shield for 16 years since we bought this place. My very first experience with AHS was that they had gone through a lawsuit where people claimed that AHS did not pay for things that they should have paid for and we got a $5 payout from this lawsuit. But when we first moved in here, within a month I couldn't use the dishwasher and it leaked water badly all over the floor. The process of getting the first contractor to come out was very easy. But this contractor said that the problem with the dishwasher was my fault because I had used the wrong soap which had broken the seals down. At that time, we weren't living here yet and the prior tenant had done that, but I still had to pay for the repair because that was what the contract said.

So I called AHS about the matter and they sent another contractor out to look at the problem with the dishwasher. The second contractor told me that he didn't blame me for the cracking of the seals and he called AHS to get our claim approved, but AHS wouldn't approve it. So, I had a dishwasher that I absolutely could not use and AHS said it wasn't covered by our warranty because the seals were cracked. I told them that I had just bought the property, but AHS said that since the prior tenant had caused the problem with the dishwasher, then they were not going to cover it. That was an appliance that AHS should have replaced, but they didn't do it. I had to buy my own dishwasher and put it in.

AHS did the same thing with my stove. I was going to put something in the oven and I had a gas blowback and a little ball of gas flame came out. I had a mini-explosion in my house and I learned that I was very lucky that my house didn't explode at that point, with me standing there in front of the oven. AHS had the Edison Company come out and I have the letter from the gas company saying that the oven was not working properly and that there was a problem with a certain part in it, and that the whole oven should be replaced because it was old. I gave that letter to AHS and they said, "We don't deal with that part." They made excuses and never replaced the stove. We had to hire our own company to replace the temperature regulator, but they couldn't fix the rest of the oven and we finally got a new oven that we had to pay for.

Two months ago, I went online to make a payment and I was told that our account was not in the AHS system. I tried several, different ways to get through to AHS online using my address, phone number, and other personal information, but still I was told that our account did not exist in their system. So, I had to go back and call AHS on the phone, but I was bounced around to five different people and it took me another two hours before I could get through to somebody. I was on hold on the phone with AHS for a total of four hours that day. The problem was in getting through to AHS. But once I finally got through, the reps were very helpful. They were not outwardly rude on the phone as with some companies I've dealt with where I run into extremely rude people. For the most part, the AHS reps were very polite, cheerful and fairly active, once I got past being transferred five or six times. But the passing around on the phone shouldn't happen.

Finally, I got through to Rose, a rep at the Atlanta call center. I told her that she was the fifth person I had talked to at AHS that day and that was ridiculous. She was nice enough to actually listen, whereas the other reps I had talked with didn't even bother to listen, told me that they couldn't help me, and just passed me off. Rose was very nice and professional, and she was the type of person that customer service reps should be. It took a while for her to find out what the problem was and she had to put me on hold, but she kept coming back to me, saying that she was looking and trying to resolve the issue. She even went to her manager and her manager took the time to look too, then they came back to me.

I explained to Rose that we had been having problems with being automatically deducted for payments at the wrong time with our bills. So, I had taken our account off of automatic payment and put it on manual payment. Our contract was nearing expiration and it was time to renew our contract, so I tried to go online to the AHS site and make a payment so we could continue with the service. But I couldn't get through to AHS and the website said our account didn't exist. But at that time, our account should still have been in the AHS system because we were then on the last week or two of our contract with AHS.

Finally, Rose said that they had figured out what had happened with our contract. Initially, Rose could not find our account in the AHS system, then she found it in another area of their system. Although I had told Rose that we paid monthly, she said, "You do have a contract, but it's an annual contract." Somebody at AHS had made a note in our account that our annual payment was $474. Rose also said, "We don't have any records of your payments in our system." She said that all the records of our payments had been dropped off the system and were gone. It was a real nightmare. Rose said that had to have the system re-establish our account and she would do certain things to get the matter fixed, but this could take a week to do.

I told Rose that I was concerned because our contract was expiring and I had to renew it. I said, "We were paying $37.83 a month." She got all the information from our contract and sent this over to the sales department which sets up and processes new contracts, so they can create a new contract and I can call and make a claim. Rose said that she would call me once the matter was resolved, but I never got a phone call.

A day or two later, I was looking at my bank account because we had several large items that were getting ready to clear and come through, and I saw an overdrawn balance on our account. It turned out that AHS had processed our new contract and they charged us the full annual amount of $474 instead of a monthly payment of $37.83 which I was expecting, and that got our account overdrawn. They still owe me an NSF fee. I need to get a letter from them stating that it was their error that had caused the overdraft.

AHS didn't offer any apology for their error. I never got a call from them and, even though I requested several times to talk to a manager about this matter, they never put me on the line with a manager. We were having a lot of the issues and needed the money, and we couldn't afford to prepay that full year. It would have been very helpful if they had refunded to us the 11 months of payments that they had charged us and asked us to just pay for the current month. But with as much trouble as I've had with them, I didn't want to be on the phone with them for four to five hours to try to get back the excess payment that they charged us.

Then three weeks down the road, we had an issue with our garage door. The springs in our garage door went out and I couldn't open the door to get my car in the garage. I tried calling AHS to submit a claim for the garage door, but I was on hold for two hours and a half, and I couldn't get through to AHS. Then I went online and tried to use our contract number, but that didn't work. I also used my address, thinking that our new contract and the payment we had made went through and would be in the system with our address, but these weren't there and the site said that no such contract existed. I was livid. I found out that AHS took the payment we made but our new contract was never placed in the system. I finally got through to somebody recently because my husband had fixed the garage door and opened it somehow, although we had left it locked and parked our car outside.

Recently, our water heater went out and we filed a claim with AHS. Actually, that transaction was good once we finally got the contractor out here, but I had a difficult time getting through to AHS. When I called them, I was on hold on the phone for two hours. Holding on for such a very long time was ridiculous, so I had it and I hung up. Then I finally decided to go online to the AHS site and I put in our contract number, but the website said we had no contract with AHS and the number I had put in was just for browsing the system. I was obviously very upset because I knew right away that AHS had not fixed the problem that I had two months before when I had gone online to make a payment and the exact, same thing happened. I finally got through to somebody at AHS after calling them again and being on hold for two hours and 45 minutes. They were absolutely terrible.

I was just about ready to hang up the call when a rep came on the line. I had to warn her that I was extremely upset. The rep was helpful, although she was a little short. Overall, she was nice and polite, but she was on the edge and her tone left me with a weird feeling. But she confirmed that she had us in the system. I said, "I can't pull our account up online." But she said that if I call, our account is in the system. She was able to pull our account up and she confirmed that everything was settled in our account and that all the records were there. I asked her if she could see whoever fixed our account since they were supposed to have called me and she said that she'll bring that up with her manager.

From then on, everything was normal. Lately, it has been okay with AHS and we got the service. I had to call them recently because we were not able to replace the hot water heater right away since we're trying to get the funds for it and it has been difficult for us lately. Luckily, the contractor called me and asked if we still wanted to go forward with the new water heater. I told her, "Yes, definitely, but we're still waiting for the funds." She said that she was making this out on her account and I asked if she could let AHS know about this. She said that she has their number, which is a direct line, so I can get right to it.

But AHS seemed to be going through something recently, around the time of the hurricane, and they may have been bombarded. The reps were on edge and sounded aggravated. AHS had two and a half hour wait times, no one was calling me back, and they kept transferring me around. My husband and I actually talked about transferring to another company. We were getting suggestions from friends on what home warranty provider to go to because were thinking that we couldn't deal with these issues. The only reason we stayed with them then was because they had taken a whole year of payment and we had a whole year's worth of warranty already paid for, and we couldn't afford to pay another company.

Then I called AHS last week and I got through right away, in less than a minute. I told them that we were going forward with the water heater replacement, but there was going to be some delay. The lady rep was nice and I said, "This is like how it used to be before all that mess I went through." I used to call AHS and their wait times even then were getting a little bit long, but the reps have always been very polite and professional on the phone. The rep put our claim for the water heater through quickly. We're going to stay with AHS for now, but next year we'll consider switching over to another home warranty company.

Our dishwasher went out and I talked to American Home Shield. The company came out and I knew that there was a major problem. They turned in the claim that the dishwasher was not repairable and then I got an email from American Home Shield that they were going to replace it. They gave me what they would recommend or we could purchase one and that they would only allow this much on a purchase and then if we get anything more than that we pay for it. We’re happy with American Home Shield.

I had a pool heater that was turning on and off when it shouldn't have been, and I made a phone call to American Home Shield. They told me that someone was going to contact me, and I was contacted and we set up an appointment. The technician showed up when he said he would and we did troubleshooting. He said my GE filter, was backed up and it wasn't moving water fast enough, so the heater would overheat and it was shutting itself off. He didn't fix anything because there wasn't anything to fix. But I had my other pool guy come out and clean the filter which AHS doesn't do, and it increased the flow to the heater and I haven't had a problem since. So, the technician's diagnosis was right on. I also picked his brain and he was able to answer my questions to my satisfaction. It was a fantastic experience.

I spoke to a wonderful representative of American Home Shield for a plumbing issue. I could tell she was young but she was funny and very nice. She satisfied my problem and got me a contractor. I had called the contractor company after-hours and scheduled an appointment. Then they called and came out the next day. The faucet was a weird faucet and I have to turn it to the side to turn it on. Unfortunately, the owners didn't leave me any instructions about anything with the house so it's hard for me to figure out. The tech went over the faucet and turned it on and said that it's not broken. I felt real stupid. But then, I have a problem with a nozzle with the washer so he fixed that and the faucet runs wonderful. American Home Shield has been very helpful and thorough.

The oven had gone out before. It has a part that is defective from General Electric that designed that item. The motherboard goes out once every 18 months. So this recent claim was one of those call-ins where the oven has gone out and not working again. The vendor came out with the wrong part. It took them three weeks to figure out that they didn’t even order another part. They finally ordered the part and then came out but the oven was down for over a month which was very disappointing. Even though this particular vendor has nice people, AHS still dropped the ball with them. But that’s not always the experience with AHS. I call the 1-800 number to submit a claim, which means I get a round robin of different people. Some are very attentive, some not so much. They have an automated system that allows us to call it in and get it started. It's very helpful and very useful. We’ve had a good experience with their reps.

However, as much as we appreciate having the ability to call them for so many appliances, it disappoints me that we can’t use repeated good vendors and that it’s always a flip a coin and then there’s a new vendor. We try them and the experiences can be totally different from one to the other. What AHS needs to improve on a little better is the quality of their vendors. I recall an AC repair where we’ve got old units and the guy that came told me I have to have the whole thing replaced, looking at $10,000 to $12,000 cost. I requested AHS to get me a 2nd person from a particular vendor to come out here since they’ve already come out here before and have been very honest and very timely with what we needed.

I've done it twice where we’d get a second opinion and the guy comes out here and he adds two pounds of Freon and said that there’s nothing wrong with our unit. Some of their vendors truly aren’t working on behalf of AHS or the end user like me and trying to take advantage of an opportunity to make $10,000 to $12,000 instead of just the service fee for $75. And then I would call and tell AHS that I don’t want those people ever back again. I would think that after they get a couple of these types of calls for a particular vendor, that they would disqualify them from using AHS to get some of their future repair orders. But what happens is that if they get disqualified for coming to my house, they’re still out there doing business for American Home Shield and causing havoc to others. This means that there are additional costs that are being spent that aren’t needed and is not the intention of American Home Shield’s services.

AHS try other contractors but they aren’t doing a good job of removing the bad ones from their portfolio. If they have good people and didn’t have these issues, then it would be a better experience for not only American Home Shield but for the consumer, who would have a bit more faith in the people. I wish they do a better job of not just taking them off a personal residence but to take them out of their system which would make all those contractors be a bit more sensitive to providing good and honest service.

Nevertheless, all the repairs eventually got taken care of. They got started, then all got concluded and life goes on. We would continue using them and keep a good record of who I don’t want back in this house to make sure that they don’t send me these bad people that are not doing an honest job. Our home was new 10 years ago and we have appliances that are having issues so AHS is a good investment for us. I have recommended them to other people that have had similar experiences with other services. The overall experience has been good.

After having written my original Consumer Affairs review of this company, I was contacted by a company representative both in writing, and via a phone call. After I explained my situation, and after some researching by the company and further discussion of the matter together, the home warranty company agreed to replace our washing machine. I replaced our machine and received a check in the mail a couple of weeks later for the full amount. I am very grateful for the outcome of this situation and for the company's representative who worked on my behalf. My only suggestion for the company would be to improve communications to the customer, both in terms of content and frequency of the status of their claim, and to reduce the hold times when a customer does call in for a status update.

    Original Review: Nov. 15, 2017

I have been with AHS for two years. Last week, our washer stopped working. I requested service from them and they sent out a repairman who said the control board was bad and that he could not find a replacement part. He said that he would let AHS know and they would either find a replacement part for him to come back and install, or they would have to replace the washer.

The next day, I got an email stating that my service request had been completed and fulfilled. I called AHS the following day, waited for an hour on hold, and then was told by their representative that they had begun a search for the replacement part and that it would take 24-48 hours to find it and that they would get back to me. It has now been 5 days and no contact from AHS. I am currently on hold with them and have been for 2 hours. They provide no way on their website to contact them via email. The only way to contact them is to wait on hold forever. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS COMPANY!

He came and he told me that it was terminal and that it needs to be replaced. They got back to me in a timely fashion and offered me a website to look for a washer comparable to the one that I had. I did that and I ordered off the website and it was delivered. The contractor has been to my home other times and he was excellent. I'm happy with their customer service. However, the high volume in their call center happens a lot, and it's a long wait.

Sometimes they'll say, "Leave your number, and we'll get back to you." But if you're having serious water problems, having me wait and get back to me is not going to help my situation at all. I've had three or four negative experiences. For instance, with the other refrigerator, they told me that the refrigerator was insured, but the freezer was not. I don't understand that. Isn't the freezer part of the refrigerator? So, they charge me more money to get the freezer insured. I was really upset about that. But so far, so good. This time, it was a better experience.

Our dishwasher started leaking a week and a half ago and so we went to American Home Shield and called a plumber. Immediately I got a plumber that was connected with me. The plumbers came, but unfortunately, they’re taking a long time to get back to us about what’s going to happen next. They initially came to look at the dishwasher, and then they said it might need to be replaced. I’ve been calling them every day asking what’s going on, because every day I use the dishwasher and it’s still leaking. If my kids move the bowl, it makes a mess under the sink and it gets slippery on the floor. It’s smelly and dirty. I’ve left three to four messages and they haven’t returned my calls.

The techs are nice when they come out, but their response time is not that great. They’ll come initially to see what’s wrong, but it’ll take them two weeks to get back to me with something. We had another issue with the water heater and somebody came relatively quickly, but then it's the same thing. I was calling them for two weeks asking them what’s going on with the water heater and what parts do we need, and they weren’t calling me back. I don't know if that's normal and I’m just not used to that, but I always thought that you should let the customer know what was going on, and at least return the call. But with American Home Shield, the service is good and they've been really cool. I always submit claims from my phone, online. It’s really nice, easy and quick. It’s a useful service, and it connects you with local technicians quickly.

I called them in the morning and the contractor was here by 12:30 PM so I was very pleased with them. He was polite and did what he was supposed to do.

Other than that, I like the fact that I can pay on a monthly installment to have their services. But I think that I should not be paying the $75 since I'm paying them for a yearly contract. Also, in some situations, the turnaround time for a technician to contact me is between 24 and 48 hours. But usually, when somebody needs something, it's an emergency. I understand that they have other jobs, too, but in some circumstances, they should be waived. For example, with the cold weather coming in, if someone's having problems with their heating system, they shouldn't have to wait 24 or 48 hours for somebody to come up. So with something like that, there needs to be some type of emergency wherein that the contractors can come out readily and take care of their client's needs. I have also found out that the contractors were supposed to contact me when I had a claim, but I had to contact them in order to get something done.

The contractor was originally scheduled for six days from when I called them. But they called when they had an opening and I happened to be home because I was getting the air conditioning fixed that same day. Their guy came out that day and was here in three days instead of six. And this guy was good. We've had the dishwasher looked at five times before but he took the whole thing apart and determined that a printed circuit board connection was bad. They have the new board now but I haven't had time to take another day off work to get it put in.

First two repairs went well. Third repair was a stripped diverter/shower faucet which is covered in the warranty. The repair company sent by AHS/ Flowright Plumbing indicated that it wasn't covered because it had been installed incorrectly BUT that he would contact me with a quote/estimate to repair it. He also only looked at one out of two items. A second opinion plumber said it was a simple stripped diverter (which should be covered under warranty) and that the plumbing company was just trying to make additional $. It seems like a clear conflict of interest for the contractors that AHS sends to say it is not covered but hire me. A complaint to AHS brought no response even so far... much less a resolution.

I've had AHS for over 10 years and their service has continued to decline. My recent experience with them was the straw that broke the camel's back and I cancelled both of my homes. If you want to submit a service claim, the easiest way to do it is online. Then they set up a repair person to do the work. If it is something routine and small, like a ceiling fan, you pay your fee (ours was $75) and hopefully the tech will take care of it. If it is something more expensive, like a pool heater, then that's where I've found they've become very, very difficult. They will nickel and dime you much of the time. READ THE FINE PRINT. Some items have maximum limits. For AC units they won't replace or repair with state of the art items. For coolant leaks they only cover a pound or two. At $40 per pound you can end up paying hundreds of dollars just for a leak. Then if it has to be replaced they will probably install junk.

Recently, our pool heater stopped working. Their tech determined that it was the heater valve and that AHS wouldn't repair it because we didn't have a sediment trap on the gas line. First of all, this trap isn't required by code nor is it required by the manufacturer. Second, there isn't any way for the tech to know if particles from the gas line are what caused it to stop working. He was speculating. So I paid this dude $75 to tell me that AHS wouldn't repair it.

Now they only have two ways to reach them that I could find. One, you can call them on their 800 number. Or you can submit a repair work order. Well, the online option didn't give me the option to dispute the repair diagnosis so I called. I waited over an hour on hold before they answered. Then they said they would set up another tech to get a second opinion. They never called or contacted me. I called again and waited over an hour to get through. Oh, sorry, they said but they didn't have another company to send over there to get the second opinion. So they said AHS considered the matter closed.

After spending hours on the phone, I was done with AHS. I just talked to an actual pool repair company and they said the gas line and valve was fine. It was some other component parts that had malfunctioned. They said the other company obviously didn't know what they were doing. And of course, the cost to repair was $900. This would have been covered even by AHS' own limited responsibilities but I couldn't have forced them to repair it because some yahoo they hired misdiagnosed it in the first place. This isn't the only problem I've had, so I'm still glad I cancelled. I can save my $300 per month I was paying for both houses and just use that for future repairs... You already pay $75 each time they come out anyway. Good riddance AHS!

Do not waste your time with this company. Either find a company that has a better reputation or save the money you would pay them every month and fix the issue yourself. I have been with AHS for many years. They were recommended by a co-worker who spoke their praises and for the first year they were great. They fixed my AC twice, replaced my microwave, then they went completely downhill using substandard contractors with one and two star reviews themselves. I am now on another hour long wait to speak to a customer service representative, this would be my 4th call, waiting an hour to speak to someone since 10/20/2017. I called for service on my refrigerator before 10/20/2017.

They assigned AmTech, a contractor who has more bad reviews than good. The contractor came out, said our refrigerator was old, needed a part, to wait a week and he would be back. Just a note that our freezer stopped working not the refrigerator. The part came in and the freezer worked for one day, then stopped again. We didn't notice because we were off getting married. When we returned, we called AHS and they sent the same contractor out again. The contractor said, it needed another part, wait another week, he would be back. We did, he did, but this time we had to drag the refrigerator all the way to the garage he said he would have to weld it, and needed space. We did, he did, and for a day, the freezer half way worked, next day, not only did the freezer stop working now the refrigerator didn't either. The contractor said it would be another week before he could come out and look at it.

When we call AHS and told them this was unacceptable that we have been without a refrigerator for almost a month, they contacted another contractor that day, a contractor that had a 1 star review. When the previous contractor found this out, they rushed to the house, looked at the fridge and said, oh you need another part (I CAN'T EVEN MAKE THIS UP) wait another week. It is today exactly another week. I get an email from AHS stating that our service is complete and to rate the contractor. I called the contractor who stated they called AHS on 11/8 and told them they couldn't fix it, they would need to give us a second opinion or replace the refrigerator. It is 11/14 and the only contact I've had with AHS is this email saying my service is complete. Note that I contacted them on 11/7 to complain about this whole situation and they told me the contractor had ordered the part and would contact me next week!

Five vials of insulin in the garbage, it’s about to be Thanksgiving and I could have taken the $100.00 service fee that's nonrefundable whether they fix your appliance or not and added to my wedding money and got me a new refrigerator. The service request has completely disappeared from my account online. I wasted, time, ice, money, and medicine trusting this company. They stopped me from cancelling my service before when they tried to screw me on my hot water heater replacement but this time, I'm completely done… And by the way I'm still on hold.

We moved into a new house and we've had a lot of little issues where we were not understanding how things worked in some of the cases. I had to call AHS out for some electrical issues and it was worth the $75 to get somebody out here to explain. Overall claims process was very easy. I just call or do it online then somebody usually contacts us and they're out here within a day or two. Everyone they send has been very helpful and everything turned out fine. Having the policy has been a very good thing for us and we didn’t realize what the benefits would be until we’ve had to use them. We've been very pleased and I would recommend them.

Several months ago, the contractor came but they didn’t fix the washer. They came a second time but it still wasn’t fixed. The first people were miserable, and then, American Home Shield assigned me to someone else. It has probably been about three months ago that I called them the first time and then, a month ago, they were here. That's when they were going to order more parts because the guy told me there was nothing wrong with it, although it was obvious there was. American Home Shield has been fine. It's just who is coming out.

I tried submitting a claim to American Home Shield twice over the phone and in both times I had a 30-minute wait. I let it go for about 15 minutes on my speakerphone and decided to file a plumbing problem online, which was a leak in the toilet. The contractor was excellent and got a hold of us within 24 to 48 hours which was really quick. He contacted me and we set up an appointment the next day so it was a super quick turnaround. A nice guy came out and fixed the problem right away. He was very professional and it was a good experience.

When we were new customers, our first call should be free for using the policy. After the bill came, my husband contacted AHS telling them that it was part of the sign up that the first service is free. But, the rep told us to have that happen, we have to speak to a representative. But when you’re on the phone waiting for a representative, they encourage you to use the online, which I can understand. There’s nothing wrong with going online and filing a claim, but there should have something on your online submission that allows you to make a notation that it’s your actual first usage so the first time you use it, it’s free and then you would go to whatever the standard charge thereafter.

We were told that we have a year from the sign-up date to use it, so the next time that we need to make a call with someone, we have to make sure that we speak with a representative and not do it online. So we asked them if we could go retroactively put it as our first usage, and the service would be free, and we were told, “No, you have to speak to a representative”. So, that's the only glitch. Other than that, AHS is fine and I would recommend them to someone else.

Calling them and talking to the sales rep or to the customer service, I was explaining to them all about the pipe that was corroded on the ground. She told me that it was covered by my insurance, only to find out when the pool guy came down here it wasn't. So now, I'm trying to collect my $75 back and I'm calling American Home Shield because they're supposed to be refunding my money. But that's already been a few days so I'll give it until Monday. I had other claims before and they came and fixed the problem. My experience with them has been great except for this one misunderstanding.

The pool pump exploded. When I contacted American Home Shield, they sent a technician who saw that there was a wrong filter on the pool that I have never been aware of. Because of that, I paid almost $700 to the contractor because American Home Shield didn’t want to cover it. They changed the motor and the filter, but it was not through American Home Shield, it was from my pocket. I thought they will cover it. For the past two years, they never changed a new one. They had rebuilt the pump at least five times and I kept telling them not to send the same company over and over because I pay $100 co-pay every time they come out. But they kept sending the same company.

But, everything is okay now. I have submitted claims for the past three years, and usually, American Home Shield would say, "Somebody will contact you in 24 hours and if they don’t contact you, please contact us back." Usually, the contractor would call and make a schedule. But when my AC was not working and I asked them if they could send someone quickly because it was summertime, they failed to send someone and I had to fix it by my own. So, I had to change it. I could not wait two to three days for them to fix it because we could’t sleep. But other than those, American Home Shield has been okay. It’s a good company. They make me worry free. I know if anything happens, they will fix it.

Our hot water heater went out. We usually call AHS when submitting a claim and their reps are very good about it. Though there were some things that had to be done that the insurance didn't pay for which we had to pay out of our pocket, the contractors were very nice and did a very good job. The stand that our hot water heater was on had to be rebuilt because it had leaked through. They did a very good job of suggesting a contractor to do that. And the guy came out that very day they told us, and then he started work the very next day and finished it up on the day we put the claim in. He did a really good job of fixing it. And then because of the state and city, the contractors had to make modifications for the hot water heater to comply with state regulations. So, the plumber went ahead and did that too since the insurance didn’t cover it either. But all in all, if I had to experience the bad experience, I am glad we have American Home Shield.

My water heater ruptured about a month or two ago and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was pretty bad. They showed no sense of urgency about getting it fixed and it took us five days to get somebody in here. I placed a call on a Wednesday afternoon and we automatically got dispatched to somebody who didn’t bother to call us that afternoon until the next morning. They couldn’t get to us until Tuesday and the water heater was spraying water up against the foundation. It was the plumbing leak in the middle of the tank and we didn’t realize this when we bought our house. There was something weird about the plumbing because they used to have a solar hot water system, which means you can’t completely shut the water off back flowing from the house. Even after the tank drained down to where the leak was, there was still water running out.

So, for four to five days, water was leaking out into the basement and running down the drain. I tried to get back with American Home Shield but it was really hard to get through to somebody because that was the time when everyone was making calls about problems in Texas and Florida. I can’t really fault them for being busy at that time. When I finally got through to somebody, I was like, “Well, I need this to get taken care of. I can’t wait.” The woman I spoke with on the phone was very nice, very accommodating, and tried hard. She called five or six places around Arvada and Denver, but some of them wouldn’t answer the phone. Some of them weren’t even part of the American Home Shield network anymore. Four were disconnected. And the couple of places she called didn’t do hot water heaters.

I was on hold for half an hour as she was trying to get through those places until she finally found one but they couldn’t show up until Monday. When I finally got in touch with the guy on Friday, he was going to have to come out and inspect it and then order the hot water heater. I was able to take some pictures and show him the various parts. He said, “Yeah. I don’t need to come out. I can just order it. I’ll be out next day.” So, the guy that came and said, “I got to charge you this amount to do the work.” I said, “What?” And he was like, “Yeah. But they say it’s for parts and other stuff.” And I was like, “What parts?” I understand them saying that it was weird stuff that the plumber had to do to get it back in or to bring it up to quote, then you have to pay for those parts. But in this case, all he did was replace the hot water heater with exactly another hot water heater.

And the one part he added was some flexible tubing in there, then charged me $30 or $40 for the two pieces of tubing. But I have no idea what the $230 fee was for. They were slow to respond, there really was no sense of urgency, and there were extra fees. And that’s not what I had signed up for. I didn’t pay for it so I can’t complain too much. It saved me some money but it makes me wonder that if I use it again, what place is it now where people are calling them? So, I’m not really happy. If I had a great experience with American Home Shield, I might have renewed when my term was up but as it is now, no and it’s not worth it. The guy that came out here to replace the water heater was great but no matter how good they are, their companies won’t let them do the best job because they don’t provide them the tools and the information.

My hot tub is not getting hot and my pool guy thought it was the pump. It's covered by American Home Shield. Submitting that claim was really easy. The reps that I spoke to seem pretty good and I just went online and told them what's wrong. Then they assigned to me somebody who would either call me or I'll call them, and they’d arrange a time to come out. That part was pretty seamless. But then they sent somebody out who wouldn't look at it because he said he couldn’t get to it, which was kind of ridiculous. I asked American Home Shield to send somebody else out, and they looked at it, diagnosed it, and said they would order the part. But they never called me and it took two weeks, and I had to call them a couple of times.

When I called American Home Shield, I was on hold a really long time. I think that’s when all the floods were and they were really busy. It took a little more time on my part than I would have liked, but they did a nice job fixing it, and the end result was very positive. However, they never put water in my hot tub to test it out. They said they don’t do that and they’re supposed to just put the tub in, so it was not a very satisfying experience. I’ve been with American Home Shield since I bought the house about four years ago and I think they’re a really good company, but I don’t know how the ball got dropped. I called them to say, “Aren't you going to fill it up? How do I even know you were here? How do I even know it works?”, but there was no paperwork, and they said that’s how they did it. I haven't needed American Home Shield a lot, but they’ve been amazing. My garbage disposal went out and they had somebody out here the same day fixing it.

Since we bought this house a little over a year ago, and had American Home Shield, we’ve only had claim for the AC and they did a great job. Prior the claim, when we first purchased our home, techs had to do work on the AC but all they kept doing was patch job. I forgot we had American Home Shield until my daughter-in-law mentioned it to me. I wouldn't have paid things out of pocket for all of it, good thing she reminded me. I stayed with my daughter-in-law for about two months and their hot water heater went out. I went and stayed in a hotel because it took them almost two and a half weeks to get it replaced.

Submitting the claim for the AC was easy and the contractors they sent, two gentlemen, were very personable. I was here the whole time watching what they were doing, I was asking questions and they answered them. It took them a while to figure what was wrong but the AC has been working great since the repair. We've been checking to make sure there are no further leaks and evidently, it was the drain, something came off in the AC that goes outside. That was probably installed improperly from the beginning. I was really impressed with the service because I wasn't sure how I was going to be. After that experience with my daughter-in-law, of them not having hot water heater for two weeks, I was not looking forward to no AC for two weeks. I'll be calling them back to do the maintenance on the AC unit, private heating unit as well.

Submitting a claim with AHS over the phone is easy. For the last couple of times, I've dealt with their automated system which doesn't have the intelligence to know whether or not I'm submitting the same claim or a different claim. I had to call back to follow up on my appliance and they had already visited. It should have the intelligence to be able to offer me the option to answer questions about an existing claim. But instead, it recreated the claim for me so I ended up getting a recreated claim that was cancelled because of the confusion the system had.

The water heater that I filed a claim for needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, American Home Shield only gave me $500, which was only a portion of the $1,500 replacement. So they leave it on the owners to pay for a lot of things and to cover some of the costs. It's atrocious. The expansion tank was also affected by the installation and AHS told me that they won't accommodate that and that they won't allow me to go up a level so that even without an expansion tank, I could end up with a tank capacity. The other issue I had with them was that since the heater is really old, replacing it will mean replacing one of the gas lines since they can't re-install a hot water heater as old as the one we currently have. However, they won't pay for a modification. Now, my husband and I are going to have to either wait until the thing explodes.

This is the worst I've seen in terms of loop holes and manipulations by the company. But I've also had fair experiences with AHS. When my old, 36-inch wide range oven died and needed to be replaced, they told me that they'd replace it but I can't have a 36-inch wide unit anymore since they don't replace that feature. It resulted in me needing to modify my kitchen to deal with what has been a six-inch gap where the range was because they refused to replace it with the same size. These are the maneuvers that make me question whether or not I need to have a home warranty service or should I just save up the money and when I'm ready to get a new range, I can get what I want because I saved hundreds of dollars.

AHS should come up with a way to have the home warranty service monthly cost be aligned with the age of the appliances because for me to pay what I pay every month with this service and then when I finally need something replaced, they nickel and dime me, it makes me feel like I shouldn't even have this service because they are getting more from me than I'm getting from them. Overall, it was a nuance and tricky experience with American Home Shield.

I had lots of difficulty with American Home Shield in working with one of their vendors for a washing machine repair. It literally took eight months for them to finally say it wasn’t repairable even though I told them I had a 95-year old mom here and I’ve got to be able to clean her clothes. I travel all the time so when I get here, I can’t go to a laundromat. I had to have people come and help me keep things washed for her but there was no real understanding of that or caring in my view until I wrote to the manager of the vendor who did write back. He said I didn't understand how it really worked and AHS wanted them to try to repair it then the vendor gets graded from what he said or whether or not AHS repairs it rather than replacing it.

It took a lot of work. I had written letters to everybody. I even went to Congressman Hoyer and had his office involved. The vendor said they've been out eight times but they were going to try again. It was absolutely unacceptable. I told them I didn't have to get an attorney involved but my mom's comfort level was involved. The vendor sent his whole team out and they called from my house to say they couldn't repair it. That's a crazy process that they have to be able to say they can't repair it before AHS finally decided they would replace the appliance. If technicians have been out four times then that means they've been working but they can't repair it, then American Home Shield needs to do what they need to do.

But once they said they would replace it, the response was within 24 hours. They asked me if I wanted them to replace it or send me a certain amount if I wanted another washer. There needs to be a stronger relationship between their vendors too. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had and I was very upset with them. I really tried to look for someone else but then I‘ve had people come back since to look at the furnace and they’ve come in a fairly good period of time. The furnace has leaked a couple of times and the gentleman who came out was really wonderful. He was here less than 40 minutes, cleaned it up and fixed it, and everything was fine.

I don’t have to pay the vendor immediately too. American Home Shield paid first and I only pay them. That’s one difference I’ve seen in the last several months and that was fine with me. I’m not sure if that impacts the service at all though because one gentleman said that he was going to have to quit because of the time it takes for them to get paid.

The only other challenge I had was the winter before last when the heat went out. I told them I needed somebody as soon as possible but the person I was dealing with at the time didn’t seem to care at all. When I finally asked for a manager, now that was one of the challenges. You never know if they’ve given the phone to somebody else or whether it’s a high-level person. That person said another person had given the right information but a lot of people have called in and I have to wait. I've heard that sometimes they would let people go out and buy a heater so I was asking what other recommendations they had, but they didn't have any suggestions at all.

Other than that, they have been fairly responsive and I’ve had American Home Shield for 12 years. I submit claims over the phone and when we first got it, there was a real rapid response to it. Now, you’re on hold with the music for up to forty five minutes sometimes. It takes a long time for them to make a decision to replace something but for general types of issues, they try to get somebody out in a fairly rapid period of time. While I’ve had some good experiences, I’ve had a few that were really so unfortunate that it lacked professionalism that I had expected over the years. I would tell people to shop around and do some comparisons.

They said they would get back to us, but we didn’t hear from them and since they thought all the information and problems were in front of you, you would just take care of it. Sometimes, their contractors didn’t show up on time while some said they were coming but never showed up. It was hard because we took our time off from work to be there but they would call and say they couldn’t come today. They were knowledgeable and friendly, but Home Shield needs to have good contractors who are more responsible, have a good experience and do not repeat the problem but take care of it instead. Their whole concept needs to be improved.

One time, I had air conditioning problems but Home Shield was not listening and kept sending the same guy who didn’t help me over and over. Each time he came, he would just replace one part. They knew the whole A/C was going down and the customer could pay the difference, but they didn’t replace it. Home Shield charged too much money every time the person came and at the same time, we took time from work every day and just sat there. Finally, I replaced my whole A/C out of my own pocket because it was the worst each time I dealt with them. On the other hand, the tenants in my other home also called them for a claim and it was taken care of.

But my water heater issue has not been resolved even though the contractor said that it works fine. It works fine for a few hours then it doesn’t anymore. The first contractor who came out was the owner of the company. But he had to come out three times and on the fourth time, he sent out somebody else and it’s still not resolved. So I requested a different company and they seemed to have a better handle on it. The last contractor was extremely nice and seemed very knowledgeable. They had approval on the water heater to be replaced but there is a waiting period because Florida has no experience in gas water heaters.

When there was a problem with my previous provider, issues were resolved and if the issue was not solvable, then it would be replaced. I didn't have to call six times either. With AHS, I’ve only had one issue with the water heater and it should have been resolved within five times that the contractor came out. Winter is coming and Florida is not as cold as other states but nevertheless it should be resolved. They seem to be working on the claim but I'm not very happy.

I’ve had two claims that I had to submit with AHS and I have had a bad experience on both times. The first time, my AC unit needed repair and AHS didn’t advise me that the refrigerant was not covered under my plan. I went ahead and submitted a claim. A guy came out and through the back, he wanted to charge me $300 and something for my refrigerant. I called AHS and they told that they should have sent out all that information to me, which they didn't so I wasn’t aware of that. Otherwise, I would not have had him come out. As I was talking to the lady from AHS, she began to email me the policy on the air conditioning unit. So, with the $100 deductible, I had to pay AHS $398 that day. Afterwards, I contacted another HVAC guy. He would’ve charged me $240. So, it was even higher going through AHS than if I had called a private company.

The second time, there was a leak in my ceiling and it ended up being the upstairs bathroom that I had an issue with. The guys came out and fixed the leak but they did not advise me that there was an additional charge if he had to cut through drywall or repair the drywall. That was nowhere in the information that I had and I thought it was part of the claim. When he left, there's a two-by-three-foot hole in my basement ceiling in my living room. They were going to review my plan and give me a callback, but I’ve never heard anything from them.

Customer service should be upfront in letting people know that this is what’s covered and this is what’s not. Even if they don’t know, I would rather have them tell me that they're not sure if something is covered and they would give me a callback when they find the answer. But telling me that things are covered and then when a contractor showed up, I expected one thing but he was telling me something different, that's not a good situation. After their service though, the HVAC was good. But I still have that hole in my ceiling and I'm waiting for a contractor to come out next week and do the repair. Of course, that’s going to be out of my own pocket.

Technician came out four or five times and was never able to find the problem. He replaced the motherboard and it still did not work. On the last call he put down that it was our hot water heater. The problem with that is that the sink is right next to the dishwasher and he was not able to keep his hands under the hot water when we turned it on. Still he put that down instead of replacing the dishwasher. AHS has the worst customer support I have ever experienced. Our hold times ranged from 30 minutes to 1hr 22 minutes. The last call I asked for a supervisor three times and was refused. I finally got smart and canceled the service. Today our new dishwasher was installed. It works perfectly no thanks to them. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE.

I had AHS for couple years now, was very happy up until a few days ago. I requested service, my heater burner to furnace stopped working. It's very cold outside so I had no heat. I went online, requested service simple enough. But problem was the service contractor AHS recommended never responded. I even called and left a message several times and still not gotten any response. This is when the headache started. I have been calling AHS for several days and could not get through. Wait times usually 30min to 1hour or more. I then called a contractor myself and paid out of my own pocket because I couldn't sit around freezing. I then finally decide I'm going to cancel my policy. After calling and waiting I finally got through to customer service and speaking to the young lady trying to explain to her what happened, she didn't seem like she cared just by the tone in her voice. So disappointed in AHS, felt like I just wasted my money for the past couple years.

I'm extremely disappointed in American Home Shield. I called them to report an issue with our water heater as we were no longer receiving hot water. They sent a technician out within 48 hours (Saturday). The technician indicated that the thermostat on the water heater had gone out. He said it was a model that was only made for one year and that there have been many issues with the thermostats... he indicated that they go out all the time. He would place an order for a new thermostat to replace. On Monday, AHS left a message and said the thermostat went out due to a power surge and that power surges are not covered. However, the power never went out! So not only will AHS not cover the thermostat, but they also collected $75 for the fee. What a racket!

Please look for a better company as they are good in taking money from you but they are really bad in providing service. They have contacts with very bad companies or one man company to fix your problems. Any time you call them, you will be on hold for hours and that is not a joke. I am done with them. Funny thing is that you call their sales, they will answer your phone in 1 second but call their service and you better go to sleep, take a nap. Salespeople don't care about your problem. Go with someone else. They should be reported too for their bad service.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it was very easy. My wife said the contractor was very professional and everything is working fine since the repair. American Home Shield has been doing very well as far as the few claims I've had to file. They are very timely and had things gotten done. I’m very happy and I've recommended American Home Shield to a couple of people who signed up.

I have heard wonderful things about American Home Shield but this weekend I had an emergency. The handle on my bath tub came off and the water continued to run on a fast pace. I had to call someone to shut off my water. I was told by American Home Shield that they do not have an emergency service and I had to wait 24 hours to make an appointment. I am single and a senior citizen. This was one of the purpose for me getting this warranty. The customer service representative had no problem asking me for the $100.00 fee and they have no problem deducting the money from my account each month.

This was an emergency to me not being able to bath, flush the toilet and etc. They told me I could get a plumber but they gave me a list of the good plumber I could not use. But she could not tell me how much money I could spend for a plumber. This was very stressful for me and gave me second thought about American Home Shield because I cant use them for an emergency.

I filed claims for my air conditioner and my dryer and I’m old-school, so I usually do claims over the phone. Generally I like to speak to someone and my experience has been very good. The techs were very good, professional, prompt and accurate in their information, so I was impressed. We had another situation before and it was fine up until a few other times, but I switched because of timeliness of getting things once I filed the claim. American Home Shield has excellent customer service and it's money well-spent.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple of years now. The last claim we had was for our air-conditioner back in August, and everything was fine. The contractors were good and they got the job done. I just had issues with spending over two hours on the phone trying to confirm that I paid the air-conditioner people $100, and I kept getting a bill. There's no way to communicate other than via the phone. The first time I called about the bill, I was on hold for over 45 minutes. The second time I called, I was on the phone for half an hour and yesterday, I was on the phone for another half hour. It would be better if they had a way to email issues because I've spent over two hours on the phone and I don't have time to be doing that. But the problem has been resolved and it didn't show that I owed anything. The service is great and I have recommended them.

I did three claims in one go and they were for the dishwasher, the dryer, and the stove. The whole time was difficult because that was during hurricane Harvey so I waited on the phone for an hour and 40 minutes. For about four times I had to call because they would pick-up and then the phone would turn off or it would take that long and then I had to call back because they didn't get my claim. But I understood the whole hurricane situation and that they had a bunch of stuff going on. Besides, they were very nice and helpful. I had 3 Boys Appliance come for the two jobs and then I had another contractor come for the dishwasher. They were very professional and got the job done. The 3 Boys Appliance had to order a part for my dryer which came in in about a week and they came back as soon as the part came in. Everything works great now, and AHS has been very helpful and polite.
