I filed a claim for my oven online and it was fine once I figured it out. They changed it a little bit and now you pay your deductible up front. You don’t pay it to the vendor who comes do the repair. The contractor came when they said they would. The young man that worked on it explained what he was doing and was very good, professional and accommodating. Every vendor I’ve had out here from American Home Shield and even when we had them in Virginia, I’ve liked all of them. I've never had a problem.

We had a problem with our air conditioning unit at a condo we recently purchased. We filed a claim to American Home Shield online because we live in the Atlanta area and the condo is in Florida. It was easy to navigate their website. They set up with one of their local providers and I was impressed with the serviceman that came out. He troubleshot the problem, ordered the part, got the part, then came back the next day and repaired it. He fixed it for us fairly quickly and the part was something they don’t normally carry on their truck. We would recommend AHS to others. In fact, we asked the seller that we purchased the place from to provide a warranty for us. So, we had done that on homes we had sold and also we had purchased in the past. It's a good thing for that.

Something went out in the heater and when I filed a claim for it with American Home Shield, it was as simple as a pie. The first person from Fire & Ice called me up early in the morning and asked if they could stop by since they would be in our area. My wife works at night and she comes home at two in the morning, so I told him 12 o’clock would be fine. But he called 10 minutes later and told me that they were sitting in our driveway, so I told him they had to wait until noon because we were just rolling out of bed. He hung up on me and when I walked outside, they were gone. I called him 20 minutes later but he wouldn’t answer, so I called him on my home phone that doesn't have a caller ID and asked if they would be coming at noon or not. He asked who I was and when I told him my name and street address, he cussed at me and slammed down the phone.
I called Home Shield back and told them I don’t want the people from Fire & Ice near my house, so they sent another company out and these people were very friendly and they diagnosed the issue within 15 minutes. It was a bearing on the fan that wouldn’t let the unit come on and three days later, they have the part ordered in and they fixed the issue in 25 minutes. Every other time we’ve had people repair for us, and they’ve been great other than one time years ago when one of them left the toilet leaking at one of my rental houses and never came back to fix it. I never paid him so we’re even.
The cost is excellent, but I’m biased because both major times that I've had their service, it was for my air conditioning unit that cost $100 to fix. So paying them for one year pays for a one time fix in my air conditioning unit. I don’t have the appliance because it’s a ripoff. For people who have the money and don’t know how to work on anything, it’s worthwhile. But it’s not worth it to me to pay an extra $200 a year for the appliances. I fixed my dryer the other day for $18 and waited for the parts. And so by the time I pay the $200 extra a year plus the co-pay, it’s not worth it to me.
I recommend Home Shield all the time to people. Everybody should have them. One thing that I was kind of upset with was the latest time I tried to call them, I was on hold for over two hours. But luckily, we have unlimited minutes and I just put it on speaker phone. They also don't take your number and call you back when they have their time. I got so tired of the phone waiting that I went online, and although the website was simple, I’m old school and I want to hear a voice.

American Home Shield's online site's very user-friendly. I submitted a claim through it because my outside fuse box wasn't working. When the contractor came, I wasn't home, but my dad was and he said that the tech was very nice and quick. The unit's been working fine since the repair. I love the service and I'm glad that I got it.

My air conditioner went out in June. I didn’t get a new one put in until August 8th and around September 8th, the air conditioner froze up and that leaked out all the Freon. I called on American Home Shield the 60th day and the rep had trouble getting someone to come out. Someone finally came and found out that I had a bad coil in my brand-new unit. The coil has been made and American Home Shield said that I should be responsible for the Freon. But it's a brand new part and I don't think I'm responsible for the Freon in it. AHS said that it’s in their book that a person is responsible for the Freon in their AC. It’s understandable but it was a whole new circumstance and it was a faulty part of a brand new air conditioner that only worked one month.
I've worked with the first contractor who put in the air conditioner a few times while the second one called out to check my air conditioner and refused because he didn’t want to travel out of his area. I live south of San Antonio. Then they sent me to US Air and the gentleman was very nice. I've been waiting for the new coil to get in and when I called American Home Shield and asked about the update on this, they said they called the company that’s supposed to put it in and they were waiting on me to call and set up an appointment to have it put in. I had no idea when the coil came in and it's not my job to call and check on the coil. It's the company’s job to tell me when it is in and when it came in.
I called the company because I was going to go ahead and pay for the Freon to get it over with, but it's against my better judgment in this circumstance. I'm waiting to get a call back to set up a time for AHS to put in my new coil in my new air conditioner. Overall, AHS has been really good with everything else. They’ve done well if it's a small project, but with the air conditioning unit, it's been too much of an ordeal and it's been going on too long.

We had a refrigerator and the washing machine go out, both at the same time. Submitting the claim was easy but when it came down to actually getting the work or a service agent out, that became very difficult. Initially, American Home Shield scheduled for one company and then that company never contacted me so I contacted AHS back and let them know. They tried contacting another company and eventually they found somebody, but that company seemed like they had the brakes on when it came to getting stuff done. I even called about that recently because initially when that company came out to fix my refrigerator, the light was working. When they finished fixing it, they didn’t put the bulb back in and the bulb was missing. I went and bought a bulb but when I put the bulb in, the light fixture was not working inside of the refrigerator anymore.
When I called, I was told I had to resubmit another claim and pay another $75 to get that fixed. So now we have a refrigerator that works but I have no light inside. But I would still describe having American Home Shield as a necessity. I had to have those two claims and then my water pump went out a month later. The contractor company came by to do that and they were excellent, so I have zero complaints on that. I've had an overall positive experience with American Home Shield and I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

We had an issue with the handle on our bathtub. When we turned the handle to turn it off, it just kept running. It was pretty bad. We had to turn off the water in the whole house to get it to turn off. Submitting a claim with American Home Shield online was super easy and their website is very user-friendly. As soon as we submit a claim, whoever they contracted out will send a text message and let us know when they should be contacting us. They got to us in the next day, which was super awesome. The cartridge on the inside had eroded, so they replaced it. My mother-in-law was home when they came and she said that they were friendly and took care of it quickly. Overall, it's been a very positive experience and worth it because we're not handy people.

We have an RV and the ice maker had quit working in our refrigerator. It was a pain in the butt but it was because I didn’t file a claim immediately. I waited a few weeks to notify American Home Shield. When I purchased the warranty, American Home Shield had me set up an online account. It also sends me a newsletter which reminded me I needed to file a claim for the icemaker. So, I went online and opened my account and it walked me through filing a claim.
Then the tech contacted me and asked me to just take a picture of what my model was and explain to him what it was doing so he knew immediately what was wrong with it. He was so pleasant. When he came out, he made sure he had the part. He had it switched it out, put it in very quickly, then it was working. Since the repair, the ice maker has been working great. The tech told me it would take a little bit because it takes a while to make ice. But he could hear it and he could tell it was starting to work and it wasn’t very long after he left and it did start dropping ice. It was a fantastic experience from beginning to end.

AHS in past year has become the worst home warranty co. They do not answer their phone for 45 to 60 minutes minimum. They have hired unprofessional (mom and pop off the street type of repair people). Even they have hard time contacting AHS. They do not get back to you. This is their way of not doing the work and taking your money. It was a good co. but now they are the WORST CO. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. As soon as my contract is over, I will change the co. They have the worst phone holding time with standard message ("at this time we have a extremely large call volume"). This does not mean anything. Horrible, horrible, horrible.
I understand your frustration with the hold times being longer than normal to speak with customer service. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Had a stoppage issue earlier in the year - called AHS who sent their contracted company to rod the pipes - the plumber seemed unsure of the problem and could not find the trap opening and suggested cutting the pipes to get the rod in. Huh? Well, he called AHS to get authorization and was told that cutting of pipes is not covered under contract. As I didn't want the pipes to be cut, I showed him an alternate trap to the pipes and he tried plumbing through there - no success. Then came the head honcho of the plumbing company, inspected the entire house plumbing and said that things needed to be re-piped and that the stoppage will never be truly gone. Huh? He tried rodding - no success.
Guess what - rod was not long enough. He got a longer rod and tried that as well - no success. Rodded again and again. While doing this, one of the pipes started leaking, which he fixed (too much rodding, you think?) Gave me a temporary fix and advised to re-pipe part of the house. Huh? Well few weeks later it happened again. I called AHS, who assigned the same plumbing company. They never responded for 2 days, I called AHS, but had too long a wait and hung up after 45 minutes.
Out of desperation, I called a local plumbing company, who inspected the issue and said they could resolve it by rodding and power jetting, but as it was a Thursday night and they were booked the entire weekend, they were willing to work late evening and resolve the problem. They were however not willing to wait till I got authorization from AHS (typically a long wait, most times over an hour). So to get my kitchen and laundry functioning, I authorized them to go ahead with the job. They resolved it and also gave me a 2 year warranty on the repair. Paid $565.
Called AHS the next working day to let them know that I had got this repaired and sent in the paperwork for reimbursement - they have obviously denied my claim, saying that I did not get authorization from them first. Well - how could I when the wait is so long? Should I have risked letting the stoppage get worse or fix it in an emergency? I am still trying to get them to reimburse me - hopefully it does come through, but given all the negative reviews and complaints on BBB, I am not holding my breath. Please do not use this company for appliance insurance - there are other companies with much better reviews out there to choose from. You do not want to deal with substandard contractors, sad customer care and poor accessibility to customer care.
I understand your concerns with the plumbing issues that you have experienced as well as the contractors sent to repair. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I had a problem with my air conditioning. It's easier to submit a claim to American Home Shield online but it doesn't matter whether it's on the phone or online if I don't get any result. The technician they sent diagnosed that the AC is not working and I'm not happy with the outcome. They are saying that it's a preexisting condition. That's ridiculous. It broke down on me and every time I called, American Home Shield is saying that it's a preexisting condition. I only called them two times. They still haven't fixed my air conditioner. AHS needs to satisfy their customer. When I have a problem, I need my insurance to act as an umbrella to cover me. But when they're not covering me, it's no use that I get the insurance. I want to cancel my account with them.

I was with AHS for over a year. I've been paying for my services, $50 a month and never had a problem. And then when I finally had a problem, it took them over three months to fix the problem. My washing machine was messed up. I have four children and a husband and we had to start going to the laundromat and wash our clothes. They were saying that they were getting people to come out. The first person who came out was a man from Sears. He came out and told them what was wrong. They wanted more opinions on it so we had three or four different people come out and give the same advice. Everybody kept saying they just needed a new washing machine. But AHS wouldn’t do it. They kept sending other people out to look at it and test it. They bought several parts for the washing machine just for it, after the end of three or four months, they end up having to purchase a new washing machine altogether.
But in that time, we had to load up clothes every week and take them to the laundromat. It was terrible. They were not concerned at all and we kept calling them and we had to wait on hold for hours to speak to someone. It was ridiculous. Once we finally get in touch with someone, they always say they’re looking into it and different things. However every technician was nice. They did an extraordinary job. They would tell me what was wrong with it and told me they were gonna send a report right in. I appreciate them but I am ready to cancel AHS.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have received to have your washer machine repaired in August. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

My refrigerator went out the day after Thanksgiving. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out. He gave me a time between 12:00 and 4:00 but he got there about 1:30. We pulled the refrigerator out and he saw right away what the problem was but he didn’t have the part and no one had the part so it had to be ordered. He got on the phone, ordered the part but it couldn’t be delivered until Monday. So, he went and picked it up Monday and he came to my house Tuesday, put the part in and everything is fine since then. I got the home warranty for that and it worked out just fine. Of course, I wish I didn’t have to do a couple of things I needed to do, but I can understand that companies can't have every part of every appliance just sitting around. So, I'm fine with it. My experience was great. As a matter of fact, I talked to my sister and brother-in-law and he went right out and got an American Home Shield warranty too.

Our electric pump motor for an inground pool failed. I submitted a claim online through the website like I always do and got an immediate response and then a call the next morning on who would come out and take a look at it. They called and said they would try and come the first day late in the afternoon if possible. I told them it wasn't that big of a deal. The pump is not running all the time and it's Fall. We are about to put the board up for the winter -- put it in the winter mode. But they said if not they'd be in the next morning.
Late that afternoon they called that it would be in the morning. They were running a bit behind. They showed up the next day, diagnosed the problem in about 15 minutes and then went and got a new pump and put it in within an hour or so. I got a couple of other minor issues around the plumbing of the pump. The old pump they actually replaced for me to make it a little easier next time if a pump goes bad so I was very pleased.
The pump runs from about 7:00 in the morning until 5:00 o'clock at night and shuts off so it's doing like normal. I’ll probably put the pool in winter mode, which means we cover it and some other things until April and May. But otherwise it's doing its job like it’s supposed to. My last two to three claims have all been pretty much the same: very fairly minor things that were repaired promptly and to my satisfaction. So so far I've been pleased. AHS should be considered by anyone who is looking for a home warranty on other non-house items like I have my refrigerator and appliances and other things covered.

Right before Irma came through, we had our drains backed up. And what we did is call American Home Shield. And they said they would send somebody out. But some reason for miscommunication, nobody came out until the day we had to evacuate. When we came back one of our rooms got really hit with the hurricane. But we still have the backup drain so we got somebody to come out and they said they can't go on the roof. We were with water and the monsoon in one side of the house, and in the other side of the house, we got the drains backing up.
We finally we talked to somebody at corporate, and they remedied the situation because somebody really needed to go up on the roof and clean out our drains. The man went right up. Once done, drain is cleared. Not but a week later, the hot water tank had a problem. There was water coming out and we didn't know it was going out now into the porch. We called them and they said they have to send the air conditioning people. My husband said it is electrical problem but they said they had to send a plumber first. We'll be paying $75 for somebody that can't even address what the problem is.
So finally they said okay and they sent out an electrician to fix the problem. Our water softener blew as well. There was stuff all over the place so I called and they sent somebody out and fixed it. We thought "okay, we're done now." But we were not. It was warm but the air conditioning is running. When the person came out, he said the coils needed to be cleaned. But there was something burned. They ordered the part and 5 days later, they came back out. They put the part in and they left. And I said, "Wait a minute, what about those coils?" Because then if I call them in a week and its still not cooling out the pan that's another, $75 dollars. They called somebody and they came out and cleaned the coils. Everybody that had come out was nice. But at the present time, I was dissatisfied because it's very hard to when you call. But for the most part, I will stay with American Home Shield because the air conditioning is doing good.

I kind of stopped using the oven for a couple of months and then I realized I wanted to use it more. So I scheduled this most recent one to try to see if we could get to the real issue. And it seemed like the technician did. He was very professional. He answered my questions as I was talking to him. He was nice to talk to in general. I had a hot water heater leak in my home and my downstairs heating unit went out. There was nothing that American Home Shield can do for the water heater because when it was put in the wrong place and they would have to drill a hole outside the house. But American Home Shield don't cover that. The downstairs heating ended up being $700 because American Home Shield didn't cover the Freon so I had to pay for it. The contractor needed to do some modifications because my unit wasn't up to code. Overall, the contractors were great. But when we had a problem with the air conditioner, American Home Shield said it would take a week for somebody to come out and fix it. And it was terribly hot and we were just burning up in our house. So I called back American Home Shield and told them that this was unacceptable. They are supposed to be a large company and it won't take them a week to get somebody out to even look and see what the problem was. Then the rep said that they have two companies that could come out and look to see what was wrong. She looked at their availability but it was going to be the same day, just earlier in the morning.
I don't understand why it took American Home Shield a whole week to get somebody out to look at the problem. And when the contractor came, it took them another week to get the part in. Then they charged a service fee plus I have to pay tax on it. My husband is self-employed and he does service calls but he doesn't charge tax. We had no problem with the people that was sent out. We had American Home Shield work on a pool, and it’s worked so much better since the repair. Submitting a claim was very, very simple. Their website is very user-friendly, but I wasn’t able to submit the claim through their website because they didn’t have my account number set up with my address. But I have since then, set up through the website, and it was super easy. One downside of submitting online, however, is that it’s very general. So, you’d have to explain. Sometimes, there are a couple of different issues, and it would be helpful to be able to talk to a real person.
Their representatives were very good. They knew exactly what’s covered and they can help you get things set up and narrowed down right away. All the contractors have also been really great. They were really helpful, professional, and they explained things. We were very pleased. We also have a pending claim still open for our electrical system. We’re having it checked out because we’ve got wires that are buzzing. The technician showed up today to start the repair, and he’s incredible. He explained things super well, and If I had a question, he didn't mind answering. He also took pictures for me to show me stuff up in our attic that I hadn't seen. Super, super helpful.

Submitting a claim online for my washing machine was easy and the contractor was excellent. He was very professional and courteous. However, the extremely long hold time at American Home Shield was ridiculous. I waited on the phone two hours one night. One hour was one part and then they changed for me to another department. It was another hour’s wait and that was one time. The second time, I was on hold for an hour and I felt like I was being tricked because I couldn’t get what I had before. I had a blue washing machine and the guy on the phone wanted to tell me that I could get a higher replacement amount if I would tell him the color. So, I had to call back several times and start all over to try to get a higher dollar amount and still, I came out of pocket for my washer.

I have carried American Home Shield for 16 years and it's a good deal. So far the only problem I've had was a couple of years ago with my air conditioner. It took a long time to get it fixed. But other than that when I have a problem I call in and usually the workers come out properly and they do what they need to do and I found all of them to be courteous and professional.
Recently I submitted a claim online and it was much better than holding on for half an hour. The contractor who came out was very good. He fixed what he was supposed to fix and it was a very easy visit. Up until now AHS has been very good but their payment system now seem to be lacking. I had two people come out, I gave them the check and then I got an email that my thing is overdue. I did give the person the check. One vendor even called me to see what the number the check was, he had cashed it but I guess he didn't tell them what the number on the check was or they have a problem with their bookkeeping.

I've been with American Home Shield since I've had my house and I haven't had any problems so far. Recently, the outside outlet kept popping the circuit. And, then, the bathroom light, when I turn it on, it had sparks. And so, AHS replaced both of them. It was really easy to submit a claim with AHS. I just did it online and I didn't even have to know my policy number. The contractor was very polite, on time and he explained things to me. The wires were loose inside the wall and he could have just retightened it, re-looped it, and tightened the screw. But he went ahead and just replaced it just in case and he explained everything. So far, everything's fine since the repair.
When I went online, I just put in the street address and they pull everything up and you can just fill it out, and somebody always contacts you within hours. And, now, it's even better because now it gives you a choice to pay upfront or pay after the contractor finishes. In case it doesn't go well, you can call somebody and say, "Don't process it." So, I would recommend AHS to everybody. My family has something different and every time I turn around, they'd say It's not covered. But I have yet to have that problem with AHS.

I called American Home Shield to request a claim for the water heater and got a hold of somebody as quick as I could and they got back to me the following day. However, trying to contact the person takes forever and some of the people who answer the phone were not too knowledgeable. The first representative I spoke to was a little confusing that I had to call back. The one girl gave me a little wrong information. But the second time I called back, it got a little bit better.
The service worked out well. The contractor told me that he couldn't do it till it was a holiday or the following Monday which I had no hot water for four days. But, they went out, picked up a water heater and installed it. They were able to do it that day and I was very happy about that. I've used AHS on several claims and they've replaced everything they couldn't fix and it's great. But, it took them a little longer than you anticipate sometimes. Also, I’ve set up for a direct deposit that comes right out of the checking account but the notices tell me that they can no longer do that and that I need to contact my bank. AHS needs to get their things in order and run it a bit smoother as it sometimes can be a little hectic.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield to have water heater replaced, and it was a pretty frustrating experience. We bought this warranty with the idea that it was going to save us money, but it didn’t save us money at all. We had to have that water heater replaced, and by the time they were going to replace it, they did all of what they said were upgrades and necessary changes to my plumbing line. I ended up having to spend as much money as it was to just hire a plumber, which is in fact what I ended up doing.
They had a plumber come out within three days. I asked him if he gave me the repair that day and he said that he didn’t, and that they can’t repair to replace it that day. They had to get me back on the calendar. He also said that it was the end of the week, so he didn’t think that they would be able to get me on the calendar until the middle of the following week. Which meant that I was going to go a week without hot showers, washing machine or dishwasher.
I called AHS and asked to speak to a manager who I can complain to, and they told me that there’s nothing they can do for that and said that they take complaints as a written letter. So, after I fought through and told them that I needed the address, and that I was so upset with them by that time, I just told them to get me a check and get that done. If this is how they run all their stuff, it seems useless for me to buy a warranty from them because it ended up costing me as much money to do it on my own. So, I paid $125 for the technician to come out and say that our water heater needs to be replaced. It was terrible, and I was really angry.

My air condition stopped working downstairs so I had to open a ticket with American Home Shield and find the contractor. Using the app, I put in the ticket and they were able to help from that onwards. It was flawless. However, the first contractor wasn't very responsive and I had to call him to set up an appointment. I had to keep calling, which was uncomfortable but necessary, and it took a lot of time for him to come. Then he wasn't able to help much because he needed to look at the unit which is in the attic and he couldn't fit very well in the attic.
A second contractor was sent and they were amazing. They were good from the top. They called me, set up the time, and came right on the time. They were two young kids who knew exactly what they were doing and came very well-prepared. They looked at the unit and immediately figured out what the issue was. They didn't have the part with them so they came back with the part the next day and replaced it. They were very professional and to the point. They're the best by far and the AC's been fantastic since the repair.

I submitted a claim online to AHS recently for an air conditioning issue. Their website is good but they need to improve their response there. I ended up having to call them to make sure that they got it and I got the impression that had I not called, nothing would have happened. Other than that, I was impressed with the quality of the people who came out. The contractor, Total Air Care, has been out four times with different people every time and they've all been fantastic. They know air conditioning and they were able to finally get my system working. Since then, my air conditioner has been perfect and doing great. All has been good and AHS has been great.

My air conditioner was not cooling. I called AHS on a Thursday and the contractor wasn’t able to get out until Monday. We had a cool front come in over the weekend so it wasn’t that bad. It saved my life. AUS Air is the only ones that ever come out and they’re okay. They seem to know what they’re doing. However, the techs are not all that great. I don’t particularly care for contractors that come over and ask to use my restroom but that is something they need to do before they get to the house. And they’re very difficult to get back in touch with and AHS is very difficult to get in touch with as well.
I just wish American Home Shield is a bit more proactive in actually doing some replacement rather than patching everything. My air conditioning unit is close to 20 years old and they keep replacing parts in it. And it clearly needs to be replaced. So it’s very odd how they do things. I appreciate the fact that I have a home warranty company. I’m not appreciative of the fact that all they do is put Band-Aids on things. I pay a pretty penny for my home warranty policy and I think they're better than that. I have gotten to a point where I’m thinking about going to another warranty company and I would never recommend someone to go to them. They told me that they would replace things when they were broken to a certain point and that’s originally why I went to them but they have not done that.

We looked everywhere and we couldn’t find what was happening. So he came in and took it apart. And then, it was frozen in the back wall of the freezer shield. I am extremely disappointed with your service. I placed a service request for our refrigerator on November 15th. The refrigerator was not cooling down. You assigned Active Appliances to fix the problem. They put in a temporary replacement part which never did anything. They ordered the part which took over a week to come in. The correct part was placed in on November 30th. Over two weeks have passed by now and our food is getting spoiled. We called Active Appliances back to tell them the fridge was not cooling down and it took over 45 min. to get them on the phone. We called American Home Shield customer service and it took over 2 hours to get someone on the phone. There is no way to communicate with both parties in a timely manner. The refrigerator is a necessary item and one cannot function without it. Both parties seemed to not take the problem as an urgent matter.
This seems like a problem with American Home Shield. We had them do another repair for the garage door opener. They placed an opener that is only in China and does not pair with any car. We pay extra to be able to open the garage without the opener and through the car. This is ridiculous. We called both parties multiple times and both refused to solve the solution. It seems like it is a waste to buy home insurance.

I made one claim to American Home Shield for an air conditioner where I live. I called them on the phone and waited an hour and 30 minutes to talk to somebody. Somehow it wound up into two claims, one for the AC and one for the heat pump, which I never made, and they tried to charge me a service fee for it. I called them twice to take care of my issue but 75% to 80% of the time I ended up having to call to find a company to come out here. And then if it was one that AHS is not dealing with, I had to pay and then they reimburse me.
The contractors sent by AHS have all been good and polite. And the AC has been the same as usual since the repair. The last AC guy left me his number to call if I had any problems. I had an excellent experience with American Home Shield. The water kept running in the toilet, so they took out the inside of it and replaced it. Their rep scheduled the appointment, signed me up to have someone call and I know now that they do payments upfront. Everything went fine and I was very pleased. The contractor did a great job too. He came in and did what he needed to do. Then he made sure that I was satisfied with it because he tested his work and he gave me some pointers to look for if it wasn’t done correctly. The job was done, it flushes well and float back up. Before the repair, it was a big inconvenience because of the noise of the water running and I knew it would cause my water bill to go up so I had to turn the water off when I wasn’t using it.
The only thing I dislike is when you call the number, the wait time is real long to get an agent. But I've been with them for over 10 years now and I would recommend them. Without it, I would have to pay the service charge plus the labor on whatever else they have to fix. When I got my washing machine it was leaking water. I was not very happy with the fact that the communication with everybody trying to get something set up was not easy and that what I was told over the phone could be done was not able to be done because the fine print tells me totally opposite. I had somebody come out for the furnace and all of them said they can't do this type of furnace so then we had to find different sources in order to have this taken care of. Then trying to have the plumbing done, the plumber said he can't do it the first time he came because AHS won't let him. Once he was able to get through and talk to somebody, he was able to get it done. The contractor was fantastic.
My son has had good experience with AHS but it was not for us. Maybe he's just stronger as far as getting something taken care of than I am. But I was satisfied with the fact that one of the representatives was very good about making sure the double $100 taken out of my Visa/Mastercard was taken off. Still it should never have been there in the first place. I'm going to try another home protection.

Our AC had been going off at the same time every evening and would come back on during the day and then it wouldn’t come on at all at one point. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it was difficult. It was hard to explain to them that it was going off at intermittent times. The times it was going off was after business hours for the AC people. So, American Home Shield would let the AC people come during the day when it worked and then nobody could explain why it wouldn’t work and they wouldn’t send them at night when it didn’t work. So then, it wasn’t until it totally stopped coming on that we were able to get help.
It took two service people to find out what the issue was. The electrician eventually had to come out because the AC guy said it wasn’t getting enough power. The electrician put the electricity back on and said it was the unit. Everybody was pointing finger at each other, but they finally found that it was the switch of the circuit, which is up in the attic. It must’ve been tripping the unit for a while because it was going bad, but once they replaced the switch, the unit stopped going off and it has been working since then.
I was frustrated going back and forth. Everybody was very rigid in their way of trying to solve the problem until the unit completely shut off. And although they were respectful, they were not very helpful for a while, but it got better. I hope American Home Shield would make service available to me if I would have a problem that requires after-hour assistance. It isn’t something I am asking for out of convenience but it is a matter of solving the problem, which is not available right now.
When we first started the service several years ago, there were a lot of things they didn’t cover that they now cover. And to me, the service is a little pricey because if I go to a different company, they’re going to give me a lower starting rate. But over time, every company seems to add to that bill. I’m a loyal customer, so I don’t want to jump from people to people. I stayed with the same cell phone company for 20 years and I’ll stay with the same cable provider for 20 years. And I would do the same for American Home Shield, so I would appreciate some benefits for the old-timers who don’t mind staying with them and recommending their service to others.

American Home Shield offered us safety inspection, furnace inspection. If they find anything wrong they'll fix it. So, I signed up, did it, they got somebody right out. And did what they were supposed to do. Filing claims with AHS was easy. I do everything online. Trying to get one of their representatives on the phone is beyond a nightmare and a complete test of your sheer will and determination. Because, I've not been on whole less than 45 minutes waiting for a representative. Usually what I do is I get my home phone, my two cell phones, and my wife's phone. And I call in on everyone's of those phones until I hear somebody pick up. And then I grab whatever phone it is.
The representative from the company was very nice. But, the girl that I spoke to on the phone from the contractor company wasn't exactly helpful. And I kind of get the feeling they were more wanting to deal with me directly, instead of going through Home Shield which isn't going to happen. I usually get a resolution or a solution every time I get a hold of somebody. It's just so exhausting and it's kind of hard like if you really needed to talk to somebody about something, you have to really make sure you know what it is that you want to talk about. Because, by the time they get on there, you always forget why you're calling.
I had a home furnace inspection and I got the locks changed on my doors. The locksmith company was awesome! The furnace company was okay. I got a form from them that they did on the furnace inspection up and below. They inspected it and said, “It’s safe. You're not going to burn the house down or have carbon dioxide poison if you use it".
AHS is great for me. They fixed a lot of things for me. I would not have purchased this home without the Home Shield warranty. My dad had a great experience with them, my brother has my sister did. So, our whole family has used the service and we believe in it. I'm looking forward to signing up again next year for the gold or whatever plan I currently have. American Home Shield states to pay within 48 hours after the service is completed. During the first service call, the rep called me a month later and said I never paid for the service. Then there was some mishap with that because the contractor asked me for a credit card. I gave it to him and I thought he was taking out the $100 fee for their service, but he didn’t. Then I thought he charged for the parts so I called and they said I was not charged. That first experience was strange. The most recent claim that I had was I had to replace a washing machine because it quit running, and I had a perfectly wonderful experience. I had a nice Whirlpool Duet that would only do queen size loads, and American Home Shield determined that it could not be repaired. I ended up getting a better machine. It was the same model but I got a king-size one, which is what I need. There were a couple of pauses but it wasn't anybody's fault. My old pipes were coming out of the wall and the techs couldn't get one of the hoses off, but we were able to get that done.
The other thing they had to do was they came out and looked at my AC. My unit was dripping, and it turned out that it needed to be cleaned outside. I don't have a maintenance contract, but they cleaned the entire outside unit. The guy came in, he went upstairs and he said everything looked fine up there 'cause it was very humid in my attic and he did some stuff up there. But then it got really humid again and hot up to the 90s. The AC was running a lot and it dripped again. The pan dripped and damaged my floor and my house which was good because American Home Shield replaced my floors, so I'm a very happy camper. The contractors are competent, kind and they know what they're doing. They also replaced a wall oven. I had to pay a little extra money but I got the one I wanted. So, if you want something else, you can upgrade if you want to pay more money.
I do have one thing that I'm not happy about. A couple of years ago, I had to replace a hot water heater and it was going to cost me a lot of extra money because the contractors had to make modifications to my plumbing. So, I couldn't afford to do it until several months later. When I did it several months later, the hot water heater I got was not the one they originally said I was going to get. I got a piece of crap hot water heater called a State water heater and it's not a good water heater. I'm not happy with that, but at some point, I will buy another one. Overall I probably could have saved a lot more money if I had put the money in a savings account and I could have bought a bunch of appliances after eight years of paying. American Home Shield's fee started out at 45 and now it's up to $80, so their service charge is double what it used to be, but it's a good idea to have it.

Our dishwasher stopped working and the plumber AHS sent came when he was supposed to come and replaced it. They did what they were supposed to do. We've had AHS for almost two years and we were kind of thinking of getting rid of it because we haven’t used it and then we did and I was like “Oh, I don’t know.” I called in the claim and the rep was warm, nice and easygoing. He didn’t give me any grief. It was a very old disposer, and so I kind of thought they might try to put a bandaid on it and the tech didn’t. He just said “Nope, this thing is trash.” He had one in his truck so I didn’t even have to wait. He didn’t even have to come back. He said, “If you have any trouble with it I want you to give me a call,” and I haven’t had to. I would consider using him again for other things.

It was very difficult to get American Home Shield on the phone. I called them one day and I stayed one and a half hour waiting. I put them on hold until I got a representative to speak to. It's unacceptable as a customer to be put on hold for one and a half hour. They do a good job once you get them on the phone, but it's very, very irritating that you have to be subjected to these kinds of delays. And when you complain to the person who comes to the phone, they will say, “Well, there's nothing we can do. Sorry.” or “I'm sorry, but that’s the way it is.” They need to improve on that.
I recently submitted a claim for our water heater and the contractor that came told my wife that the whole system needed to be replaced including piping that’s in the attic and the piping wasn’t covered by American Home Shield. Just the piping replacement itself was around $450 on top of the unit that wouldn’t be paid by American Home Shield. And my wife agreed easily.
When I went back to the house and went upstairs to check the unit, I noticed that the pilot was off. We had another appliance repair where we were replacing the cooktop and the gas was turned down for it. And when the contractor turned it on again, he didn't realize he switched off the water heater pilot. So the whole thing was the pilot was off and we had this estimated $450 of piping alone, plus the whole new unit that they were going to change. I called the contractor myself and they were very embarrassed. This happened about four weeks ago and I've been busy so I haven't reported it to American Home Shield.

We have had our family here for Thanksgiving, and my son told us that the sink in the guest bathroom was running slow and was backing up. And because we’re on a septic system, I just didn’t want to have any trouble. It has always been easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield. I called this one and I just pushed numbers in the automated system and it was very simple. The contractor who came out was very pleasant and very knowledgeable. He didn’t find any significant problem, but he gave us several suggestions on what to do should that happen again. Our plumbing seems to be back to normal since the repair. I’ve tried several companies and I’ve always come back to American Home Shield.

I had an issue with the hot water where the water wasn't as hot as it should be coming from the faucet of the shower. My shower was only lukewarm, but all the other faucets in the house get really hot. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online and the site is user-friendly. They sent a guy out who called me before the appointment and told me he was on his way. He got in the shower and showed me what the issue was and what had happened before he fix it. He really knew what he was doing and took about 15 minutes to fix the issue. It ended up not being a water heater issue and he was able to figure it out quickly. I got my hot water back and I didn’t know that anything could go that smoothly. The experience went better than expected.

I was having problems with my water heater. It was overflowing and spilling out water at the overflow tank so I filed a claim with AHS and the contractor they sent was able to let me know that it was the pressure regulator that was on the house that was causing that. They handled it and fixed it so very very quickly and I haven’t had any problems since.
Submitting a claim has always been very very easy. Every time I called they’ve been perfect and fair. I've had some other plumbing problems and had that experience with another plumber and I expressed to them that I didn’t want to use that plumber anymore and they were very accommodating in giving me another one to do the work. I love them. They really handled my business well.
I signed up with a lesser policy with another company and then when I called to have things done they were saying, "Oh, that’s not covered. That’s covered on our triple gold platinum thing." I said, “Well, that’s what I asked for.” But this particular time I haven’t had any problems with American Home Shield. The only thing is that they haven't got back to us. But I will highly recommend AHS. We have a two year-old washing machine and the fabric softener cup wasn't draining. The valve that sent water in there wasn't functioning. I filed a claim to AHS and I got a call the next day from the local contractor. They came out the following week and had to order the part, and took a couple of weeks. But I wasn't upset. It wasn't any sort of an emergency. So overall, I'm pretty satisfied.
The first claim I submitted to AHS was for the central air conditioning. That was a much bigger job and it was resolved to my satisfaction. Anytime they are going to replace or repair a major a component they give a cash out option. So I took that and got a new unit. They were going to replace the condenser. I took that cash out and replaced the whole AC unit just because it came to make more sense to me. AHS could do better though with better fees for the contractor to come out. AHS replaced a part that was like $200. If I didn't have that warranty it would have cost me probably $300 or $400. But I still had to pay $125 just to get somebody to come out.

With American Home Shield, submitting a claim over the phone is worthless. The wait time on the phone is awful and we've waited on the line for over 45 minutes, so we do everything online now and we get so much progress that way. And what they do really well is they cover what they say they're going to cover and they don't pest you around and try to deny a claim. There was what appeared to be staining from a leak in our basement and the dishwasher railing was off and wasn't closed correctly. The contractor was very professional and has great customer service. He took a look at things and diagnosed it quickly. He ordered two separate parts for it and came back in a week and took care of it. And the dishwasher works great now.

Don't pick AHS unless you are able to miss work for days to wait on unreliable subcontractors and spend hours on the phone with them arguing coverage or just getting status updates. I've been with this company for several years now and have had a couple of ok experiences, but for the most part it has been pretty bad. I have been without water due to leaky pipes now since November 22nd. I e-mailed and called to tell them it was an emergency since I have three kids and 3 pets at the house, but that had little bearing on their responsiveness. It took over 4.5 hours on the phone and two days of missed work for them to tell me the leakage was not covered under my contract because I would eventually need the entire crawl space re-piped.
They could fix the immediate issue but refused because it would mean other pipes may fail and dubbed the diagnosis re-piping which is not expressly called out in the contract. Despite their claim the pipe could not be fixed, AHS had an out of pocket amount I could pay of $480.00 to fix the same pipe they said could not be fixed. I let AHS know I was tearing down the house in a few months therefore the immediate patchwork would be fine, and they still refused to help even after their lack of responsiveness since 22 Nov. They lost another customer.

I've been a customer of AHS for 3 years. I made a service request to fix 2 faucets that were leaking and a toilet that wasn't flushing properly. The plumber company AHS sent was Polar Plumbing. Polar plumbing refused to look into 1 of the faucets because the work order only stated 1 faucet. I raised the service request online, where it doesn't give you the option to say how many faucets are broken. I had also asked to look into a bath that was clogging, but because I hadn't put it on my original service request they would have to charge me another service fee for this. Never mind the fact that it's the same plumbing company on the same visit.
I attempted to call AHS to resolve the issue multiple times and found hold times for customer service to be greater than 45 minutes which is ridiculous. I attempted to contact on the chat they have, and they told me the only available representatives at the time on the chat service were those that dealt with renewals or purchase of contract. AHS doesn't have a contact form on their website nor is there is a customer service email available to contact them. The only time you can get in touch with them is if you're giving them money (i.e buying or renewing a company). As soon as you need their help with something, they'll abandon their customers.

They said they would have Sears out to fix it in 48 hrs or less according to our legal contract time parameters with AHS. AHS said Sears service would be out by Friday last week to repair our dryer. On Friday morning I called the Sears service number AHS gave me to verify a window when they were coming out last Friday. The Sears representative on the phone said they had no record of a service request from AHS. The rep on the phone said I also needed a vendor number not just my dispatch number I gave them.
I recalled AHS back last week Friday. I waited over an hour once again to talk with someone at American Home Shield. They came on and spent well over an hour to try to rectify the problem. They said Sears would now be out by the end of the next week. I told them that is not the 48 hour repair agreement in my contract. They said their other repair company is Whirlpool and since I have a Whirlpool dryer that would be better. The American Home Shield rep said my repair would now be between 8 am to 4 pm next week Monday. I waited 2 hrs and called Whirlpool to confirm that my Monday appointment was confirmed. Whirlpool said it was confirmed for Monday, December 4th between 8 am and 4 pm. Whirlpool said the repair person would call me on Monday before they head to our home.
I recalled Whirlpool on Monday to confirm they were coming out and they informed me that they called my cellphone, spoke to my wife, and she said no one was home! The number they said they called was my cell phone. I was talking to them on at my work. They would not back down from their lie. A friend of mine who is a realtor gave me a contact with this AHS and she was the one that expedited things. All of the electricians that came, except for the last one, did not know what the hell they were doing. He found the problem and he said that indeed the house can catch on fire with this issue going on. So, I was correct with my fear. Because of this guy fixing the issue, I will be asking for him or I will call him directly.
Also, during another time, the drip pan on my AC system had a hole in it that their tech did not see and it caused the ceiling, about 1ft x 3ft, to get wet in my closet. It could have been a lot worse. I had someone who's very skilled and whom I trust go up there and he saw that someone had duck taped the drip pan. Sometimes the people that American Home Shield refers to you aren't that efficient, they take a long time. We had a problem with the refrigerator and their technician came Tuesday, two weeks ago. They evaluated the problem and there were two issues. They said that they would come back. They called, they left a message and they said, "We ordered the parts. And we'll be calling you." But they never called. Also, the guy that they sent from this company for the refrigerator, could barely speak English. He tried to get me to sign the paper that said that I was satisfied with everything. And I said, "I'm not going to sign that. You guys didn't finish yet. If I sign it, it means that you guys finished, and I'm satisfied with the work." So, it took me a while to make him understand that, "This is the not the part that I sign now until you're done." And then, he said, "Okay." And then, he said they needed to order a part.
So, we're still stuck waiting for them. I called them back and I left a message, and nobody got back to me. It's been two days. I called the company that they referred me to. I've been waiting at least a couple of days since I called them and nobody called me back, nobody came. The name of the company is Atlantic Repair Service.
Fortunately, the refrigerator is still working. The issue was with the icemaker and the light in the refrigerator which doesn't go on. So, we can still use the refrigerator. AHS are okay. But even the last time when I spoke to them, I wasn't too happy with their customer service or their communication with customers. I think the service is good when it works. But once they refer you to a company, they don't seem to care or follow up. And when you call them, you really can't get much satisfaction. The first time that we needed them was with the air conditioning unit. We had no air conditioning, and it's Florida. But we were away for a few days, so that wasn't too bad. But as a service company, they should fulfill their contract. But they need to improve their customer service.

They sent me an email to let me know that someone was coming out, and that was fine. The contractor was from Guaranteed Services. They worked on the unit and discovered that the furnace was bad, as well as the air conditioner. They discovered the heat exchanger had a crack in it so, they replaced the unit. They got me a unit sorted out here and plugged it in.
They were very courteous and kind and did their job very well. I couldn't have been happier with the service I got with them. I recently called for a washer and my freezer. I'm not good with computers but I liked the fact that I was able to put both of the appliances in for that day in American Home Shield's website and the people from ARK Appliance came out. The guy did a thorough check of the freezer first and it was working at that time. It had been working and then not working then working and not working.
He said everything looked good with the freezer and went ahead to the washer. He tore apart something in the washer and fixed some stuff. I have an old washer but it's a really good Maytag. He said it was not working and he got it going, and he left. The next day, the washer was stuck again and I called back to ARK Appliance. They said they will handle it and ordered in a new motor. It’s really hard to get through to somebody on American Home Shield's phone. They don’t have a setup for recalls. My ice maker started not working again and I was within the recall time. I went online to try to see if I could set up a recall appointment but I couldn’t. I called ARK Appliance before I tried to get back in touch with American Home Shield. He said I needed to check with them first and then as soon as he gets the okay from them, he’ll schedule and take care of my problem. But then she said, “Yes, you just need to have a recall appointment.”
The lady from American Home Shield that helped me was very nice. She walked me through everything and said that there wasn't a way to do it on the website for a recall but she said she would gladly take care of it for me and set me up on all that. She also answered a couple of other questions that I had at that time. Then the same man that worked on the things in the past came. He was very nice, clean cut and remembered my name, which I was very surprised because I didn’t remember his. He was only here for about 40 minutes and he worked very hard because it’s hard to get into that ice maker. He brought a new one with him and they put it in. He told me I should have ice in about 24 hours and away he went.
Since I've been with American Home Shield for a little over a year, I've been very happy with everybody who came out. I was impressed with the fact that American Home Shield's website said it was chosen by women’s groups as far as being the best for home stuff. Also, everybody has been much more prompt than the company I had before. They've been good workers and have handled things well. I'm 63 years old and I’m really bad with computers, but I’ve been able to walk through on your website and get it done almost immediately each time and up until this recall and I really value that. That’s been a big advantage.
I’m very careful about my house. It’s a big home and I’d been having to deal with lots of contractors and I've been very impressed with the speed that American Home Shield has gotten hold of people, and how quickly they responded to me and taken care of my problems. I have recommended American Home Shield to quite a few of my friends who are still with the company that I had been with when I first bought my house.

We’ve been in this house over 20 years, and American Home Shield was the only one that we’ve had since we’ve been here. The technicians are professional, comes out ready to see the problem and get right to it. They don’t waste any time. They ask exactly what’s going on. My husband goes out and he shows them what’s going on and then they fix the problem. We haven’t had any challenges with anybody that American Shield would send out. They get the job done and that’s what we like.
Our recent claim was for the washing machine which was flowing. My husband had checked it and saw that it was doing that, so we wanted to make sure that it was malfunctioning before we called out. The tech told us it was one little thing that had clogged up and it just needed clearing out and needed a part put in there. Once he did that, we haven’t had any more issues with it. He also said that if we have more problems, we could give them a call so they could call back. They’re professional and they did excellent service. We’re quite pleased with the results and we would recommend American Home Shield to our friends.

The most recent claim was for my air conditioner and I found out it was fire ants that had gone in the circuit board and destroyed it. American Home Shield called the Sears people out and within a couple of minutes, my air conditioner was good to go. It's always quick work with American Home Shield and their guys were very professional as usual. The contractors were good as well. AHS is a great insurance company that's always on time and very helpful.

The rep I spoke to wasn't warm but she got straight to business and it was real quick. The contractors who came had introduced themselves and were real cordial and friendly at the front door. They came in, asked the right questions, gave all the information and explained themselves in detail. It was thorough and I have no complaints. Everything is fine and I was satisfied.

I had an issue with my AC unit and submitting a claim was easy. I had more issues with the company that came out here. I tried to tell the person in American Home Shield that they shouldn’t use that company because if you look at the reviews, they have 900 complaints. One of the technicians that came out and replaced my blower motor and some other part left all the old parts. Then he tried to sell me on a whole unit. Another guy came out and was supposed to report him. I gave him my $100 deposit and then there was a dispute. AHS said I didn’t turn it but I did. I got the e-mail and the guy’s name and they researched it and eventually fixed it.
I had friends of mine that had AHS and said that they took care of this or that. But I ended up having to come out of pocket $1,800 to this company. They said they had to bring me up to code and we need this and that which I don’t. But I got to get it done. I wasn’t expecting to get it for free but I wasn’t expecting to pay that much. I didn’t pay that much before I had AHS. I had my other AC unit and the other evaporator coil replaced. It was $1,100 with the Freon. The contractor told me that we have to drain the Freon because I needed seven pounds. I said it’s a 14-pound unit so what are they going to do with the other seven pounds. I was frustrated the whole deal. There was a 2-month period where we went without AC because I was going back and forth.
AHS is good on small things but when it comes to air conditioning units, it’s kind of touch and go. I eventually had to replace my evaporator coil and one of the ladies I talked to said they don't cover that. They cover water base units. It’s the water that comes down the grate that cools and there’s none of that down in Texas.

I have two houses, so combined, I have filed about seven claims with American Home Shield and I’ve been with them for about five years now. I usually call to make a claim and the wait time takes about 10, 15, 20 minutes. Their reps were friendly and their contractors were all right. My only issue is the time they had to take to come back. One time, I had a washer and they had to replace it. That took over two months for them to replace. They had to decide to repair the washer before they decide to replace it. Another problem I had was with the faucet dripping. It took a long time because they said they had to get the parts.
My upstairs bathroom in the hallway was dripping. That went for a long time too because they sent somebody to repair it and then they said they would order the part. It took more than two months before the part finally came. Right now, when they came to do the repair on the faucet that was dripping and they damaged the drywall. There's a hole in one of the bedrooms that they had to cut to repair the dripping faucet. They said they would send somebody to repair the drywall but they haven't yet. I called once and they still haven't sent anybody to repair the drywall. But I would still recommend AHS.

But I'm the one who got on the floor and cleaned it. He just took the back off and that was $107. So I cancelled my plan last month. Also, when I called in my claim, it took too long to talk to somebody and they put me on hold for about 30 to 40 minutes. I had to call for two days and finally got them. But they shouldn't put the customers on hold forever in a day. I'm 64 years old and my husband died in 2015 so I needed some help and got American Home Shield. I paid all that money but they didn't come to do about the situation. I wouldn't recommend them.

I had a house in Georgetown and had American Home Shield there. I’ve been paying on it for 10 years but I never used it because it was a new house that we had just built. When I bought this house in Jarell, I transferred my membership to this and I probably used them twice in the whole time I've been with them. My air-conditioner went out in the 100 degrees heat and I called American Home Shield. They said that the service tech had four days to get to my house from the time AHS gave them the order. That went almost at the end of the time that they're supposed to be there cancelled. Then it started all over again with another company that American Home Shield sent out. The guy purchased Freon but didn't fix the problem. It still didn’t work. I called him back that night and he said, “Sorry, I don't have time to come back."
I called American Home Shield almost every day because I was trying to get something done. But when I call, I’d be put on hold for about an hour before I finally get somebody. It took us three and a half weeks to get the thermostat of our air-conditioner fixed and that was ridiculous. American Home Shield kept telling us they can get somebody new and the time starts every time somebody new comes assigned to our account. We had two different service techs that came out and both of them said that they’ve got to call American Home Shield before they could fix the problem. And they told me that it was going to take a good hour or so to get a hold of the reps. But eventually, they got my thermostat fixed.
If you've got to use American Home Shield, you're not going to like them. Using the warranty’s just a hassle. They didn’t care and all they told me was, ”That's the policy”. Everybody that I talked to that has American Home Shield was so unhappy with it. I have a friend that had American Home Shield and they went three months without a refrigerator because American Home Shield did all this crap of sending somebody else out. I put this issue on Facebook just to let my friends know and nobody was saying good things about them. American Home Shield’s service sucks. I'm fixing to get off of it and I’m making sure my air-conditioner is not going to break again before I canceled.
I understand your frustration with the ongoing issues you have experienced to have your AC system repaired through your AHS warranty. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

About 20 times now, I've tried to get American Home Shield to take my work number off because they should have my cell phone and home phone number. My work phone number is my last resort. But they still haven't taken care of that so that's one of the issues I'm having with them. Second, I really do like the concept of the whole company but there have been several times that they’ve sent contractors out to fix things and they're not being fixed. Then the last go-around that I've had with them when I called and asked them, the person could not fix what was broken and so they transferred because I had paid up front, which I know now not to ever do.
But I paid up front for that contractor and AHS was supposed to transfer that amount over the second contractor that came out to fix the problem and they fixed it. Now, I'm getting delinquent notices for outstanding amount owed. That’s why I tried to call them earlier this week. Then I was on hold for 45 minutes before I could ever speak to any one person. Then once I got a hold of somebody, she put me on hold. I was on hold for another 20 minutes and then I was disconnected. If I wanted to call back, I'd have to go through that entire whole business all over again, and I frankly was put out.
My most recent claim was my leaking air conditioning. It actually caused my roof to collapse. I do my claim online because sitting on the phone makes me crazy. If I know exactly what I need to have done, I try as best as I can to do it online. My interactions with their reps were all fine. They wanted to be very helpful. It's just being able to get a hold of somebody. I understand people are really busy and there are delays and there are peak times too, but it seems like every single time that I call, it's a minimum of 30 to 45-minute wait. There's no number that you could call back with the same issue. Just like when I got disconnected from this lady, if there would have been a number that I could have called and talked to directly to that person again, I would have called back. But knowing that I was going to have to sit on the phone for another 45 minutes to talk to somebody and then have to explain it all over again was not right.
Up until this last year, I've been very, very satisfied with any contractor that’s come out to do anything in my house. There was a time that my garbage disposal underneath the sink was dripping water. They sent out a guy to try and fix that. It worked for a week, maybe two weeks and then it didn’t work anymore. It started dripping water all over again. Unfortunately, I travel a lot, so I had to go work out of the country and was gone for quite some time. Before I could get back, I knew I was going to have to call again and they would charge me again for another service call because of the fact that I was out of my timeframe to call back and report that it was not fixed correctly the first time.
Then, we had the Harvey storm that came through here. I was getting that dripping water. I confirmed that it was not my roof leaking, that it was my air conditioning leak. I called an AC man. Then he got up there and said that he didn’t have anything to do with it. Then I had to call a plumber. They were going to send the first team out that had tried to work on my garbage disposal. I said, “No. Do not send that company again. Give me somebody else.” The next company that came out was impeccable. They were incredible. So I got everything fixed but now those poor people haven't been paid because the AC man said that he was transferring over the money that I had paid for the service that he didn’t do anything for. He said he was transferring it over to the next, which was the plumber that I had to call.
Then I kept getting delinquent notices. Also, my monthly charges were automatically withdrawn out of my banking account, so I know that that wasn’t it. That’s what prompted me to call. I made the call just Monday. They're saying that it's not payment for a service call. That's when I got disconnected. I honestly have not taken the time to call back. That was just this week. They don’t have any way of knowing what their contractors are doing unless we give them feedback.
I know this is the day when you're supposed to do everything online, but what about for older people that have to call in? My mother is 93 years old, and she's very, very conscious of everything. She still lives by herself and is perfectly capable, but if she had to go through these phone things, and listen to all this crap, and staying on the line forever, there's no way an elderly person could do that. I'm not just talking about my mother. I'm talking about anything. So there's got to be an option that allows people to get through to a person.
The one thing that I truly love about the whole concept is that when you do hire a contractor to come out through them, you can actually be notified via text messaging of who they are, their whereabouts, that they show up with some kind of identification on their shirts or their cars or whatever. That is a big plus in my book because, as people do get older, you're very cautious of opening your doors up. I live by myself, so I'm very cautious of just opening up my door. But if I can see the map and there's communication going back and forth, then that's awesome.

We're not always home every hour and when we'd go for errands and come back or walk into the room in the morning, there would be a puddle of water on the floor. I mistakenly thought that my daughter had left something in the bottom of the freezer and it caused the leaking, so it went on a little bit longer than it should have. I'm 72 years old and have never had this problem with our refrigerator before. I realized when the ice was building up so much that my original assumption was wrong and that there was really something seriously wrong with the operation of the freezer.
I used to submit my claim over the phone but I've been on hold for 45 minutes and then disconnected. I don’t do it anymore and have learned to do it online. I waited a week getting the assignment in a timely manner. The repairman came and knew exactly what to do. He had the refrigerator fixed in less than an hour and I was quite happy with that part. Turns out there were two kernels of corn plugging the drain. I don’t know if refrigerators are inspected when inspecting a home, but we didn’t have any corns so it was left by the previous owner. The refrigerator is working nicely and it's a great relief to have it fixed. Unfortunately, there is damage to the floor from the leaks over a period of time so the floor is going down a little bit, but there may be a follow up needed to take care of the damage.
American Home Shield is not so friendly in terms of submitting the claim or trying to reach somebody to discuss any issue that has come up. The previous claim for the furnace, I could never get through and there's no convenient email. I did not hear from them in 48 hours. I called and left messages but never got a response. The only thing I got from AHS was the email telling me of the assignment and the ticket number. We had no heat and had a couple of little space heaters, so we were quite uncomfortable and it happened to be the coldest period.
Finally, I went back to my account at AHS and the whole request had been eliminated. I never heard from anybody about this. My husband and I said we were going to go with somebody else entirely. So we spent $6,000 for a new furnace and not able to use AHS at all. This was when I was still very frustrated because I couldn’t get anybody on the phone when the air conditioner went out. I have very mixed feelings about AHS. It's either wonderful and easy to use for small problems, but I'm not happy for major problems.

The phone was just ringing for that particular company. I had been trying for two days and I ended up calling AHS. I told the rep that nobody would pick up. She said to hold on but she never came back. I was on the phone for 15 minutes and it just hung up.
I called back and was on the phone for about 45 minutes before someone answered the phone. Then they clicked over and hung up the phone. Again I tried because I needed my refrigerator. This was done in the course of one day, so it was like almost four hours. The last time was when someone picked up the phone and made everything good. She was awesome. She took my number and promised that if she lost my call, because she had to call the contractor, she would call me which she did. The contractor did not answer so she set me up with another company and sent me the email immediately with all the updates. From there, it was great. But trying to get through was a nightmare.
The contractors were very nice, came out timely, and very cordial. Everything was done and put back in place. It was a good experience with them. AHS needs to do something with the wait period and getting through to the customers. If they want the customers to be able to put the claim in online, then make it accessible. If a customer has something pending, have some way that we can go up in the queue or have an automated thing that will let us leave our name and number so we won't lose our spot and they'd call us back versus keeping us on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes. It was outlandish.

So, I had to call back in, cancel the one online and resubmit it. However, I’ve been on hold every time I call, which would be two or three times for over an hour ‘cause they hang up. So, I just turn the phone on, put it on speaker and go by my business. That’s frustrating and if I hadn’t wanted to be sure that my claim went through, which it didn’t, then I would’ve hung up. I also don’t know if this warranty works for me or not. So far it has not saved me any money, but I’m going to keep it because my house is older house and something might go wrong.
With the first claim, the company that worked on it was Day’s Heating and Air out of Cave City, Arkansas. The second claim I had was with a company out of West Memphis, Arkansas. He was very professional, clean and personable. I couldn’t have been happier with him. The people who did our roof 15 years ago had put a roofing nail through one of the air conditioner’s wires, and when we recently had roofers tear off the old roof, they ripped it up and tore the insulation of the wire. They finished their thing, and the wires were sticking up. But they had pulled the fuse box on the air conditioner. So, we needed somebody to come out and fix it because we weren’t sure if it had blown the air conditioner, or if it was simply disconnected. So, I called American Home Shield and got an automated voice that asked for my contact number, as well as the problem. It then told me that they will contact the service provider, and they should be with us the following day. They also give you a claim number to call back and follow up on in case the service providers didn’t come. Then they warn you about their $75 service fee. It was a really quick call, and I didn’t have any trouble with it.
Our AC was off, and I wanted somebody who knew what they were doing to come out. A really nice kid from the service provider went up and said that he put it all back together, and I said, “That’s fine.” It was 75 bucks well spent. Our most recent claim with American Home Shield had to do with the heat and air. My wife called in initially and there was a really long wait. So, we went online and submitted the claim that way. We had AHS contractor come out initially because it was not clicking on properly and it was freezing up. When they came out, they cleaned it really good and changed out the capacitor on it. And about a week later, it got cold and we switched the thing to the heat and it was doing the same thing where it wouldn’t come on. They sent out a different company or a different service person the next time and he found that the thermostat was the wrong thermostat for the house. So, he changed it. The heat wasn’t hooked up and when we switched it to heat, it blew something in the system, but it's working great now.
The contractors were both very nice. The man that came out the second time was super nice. Since then, we've had no issues. When moving into a new house, you never know what you're going to end up with. So, it's nice to have AHS knowing that if something goes out or was installed improperly, that’s included in the coverage and the cost will only be $75 and not the full amount. However, I wish they could come out a little sooner because it happened on a weekend and with a child in the house, we'd put on more clothes. We're in Florida and cold to us is when it hit 50. The coldest we got in the house was 66. So, it definitely could have been worse if we were up in the northern part of the country. But other than that, I have no complaints and I would highly recommend AHS.

When I had a water pressure problem, American Home Shield sent out a company. They changed something that rather deteriorated my water pressure. So I called the guy again but it still didn't work. Then I had to leave and go out of the country for two months. When I came back, I called again. The guy came on a Saturday and he was supposed to come between 11AM and 3PM. But he arrived at 3:30PM and he was totally tired. He just kept staring at the thing and then he said he forgot his ladder at the last place and that he didn't have anything to make it straight flow. I was so fed up that I just told him to go because I didn't think he knew anything about it.
I had no way to tell American Home Shield what happened, so I called the company in the morning and told them to cancel the service because their guy could not do it and he couldn't give me any information or report. They are a great company and I had services done for my pool and garage door in the last months, and they were done perfectly. But with this last guy, it was like when you're stuck somewhere and you have nowhere to go.
American Home Shield should do something about their communication with their clients. There is no communication other than the internet. They can make a column online in which you could say any other problems, so one can write down what exactly happened. Also, if you want to cancel the order, you have to go on a phone to cancel it, but nobody is going to pick. And they should be approving it in front of your order that you want to cancel it. American Home Shield should give us a time limit when you can cancel the service.
I've been telling everyone that American Home Shield is a great company. Although they are the most expensive in the city, at least you don't have problem with the spare parts and other things. But through time, American Home Shield is deteriorating rather than it is getting better.

All three of my appliances were not working. The home I recently purchased had American Home Shield. I've previously had them and always submitted claims online, which was easier, but this time, because the policy was still in the previous owner’s name, there was a little confusion, so I had to do it over the phone. They sent out an appliance person, who said the problem was electrical, but then they sent out an electrical person who said it's the appliances. This was verified by a third party they sent out. They then sent out a different appliance company who ended up almost fixing all three of my appliances. I still have one outstanding. I got a the runaround between contractors who diagnosed differently from each other, but they weren’t rude.
Every time I call American Home Shield, I’m on hold for an hour. Because all of this was messed up, I was on the phone over a period of two weeks for nine hours. Contacting them on the phone is ridiculous. Also, there is no way to email back and forth between myself and a representative. If they had email, I wouldn’t have to stay on hold on the phone.

We’ll continue to keep American Home Shield.

We have been with American Home Shield for years in various states that we've lived in and we have always been pleased with the manner in which they conduct their business. We usually get a repairman out very quickly and we're happy. When the igniter was off on our gas oven, I submitted a claim online and it was an easy process to go through. The person who came to repair was very professional, seemed to know exactly what he's doing, and had the part on his truck. He took care of it very quickly and the gas oven has been very good since the repair. It's a positive experience. We have recommended American Home Shield and have paid membership to part of our family to get them with AHS.

There's a fault to American Home Shield's system. When you pay in advance, there is no way to cancel the order. Before the people came out, I ended up fixing it myself because it was just a switch that was done the wrong way. So then I cancelled with the pool company. They've got my $75 and there's no way to get that money refunded, which is ridiculous and there's no way to cancel. All you can do online is tell them it was either completed and then tell them how great they are. Those are your two options. And then when I called, I was on hold for 55 minutes. And even then, they didn't refund the money.
The pool company ended up working with me and they were super nice. I told them I needed them out for something else that wasn't covered and they said they'll give me a credit for the $75 because they were going to end up getting that from American Home Shield. So the actual vendor fixed it for me, but American Home Shield didn't do anything. From now on, I will never pay in advance again. And American Home Shield needs to control their hold times and there should be a call back option. There is no business in today's world that should leave you on hold for 50 minutes. If they can afford all those dopey commercials, they can afford to upgrade their phone system.

It’s good to have peace of mind with American Home Shield. I had an air conditioning problem and it ended up being a Freon leak. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and by phone at the same time because I didn’t know exactly how to do it. Their reps were really good but their contractor wasn't that great. One guy in the AC company was good but another one was sloppy. He could have fixed it right then and there but I waited two weeks for it to get fixed. A second guy had to come in and ordered the wrong part. Then I waited for the second part to come in. But they were really good about calling and following up. The air conditioning has been great since the repair. It could have gotten worse. The same company fixed it but it was a minor problem which they could have solved that same day and I would not have had to wait for the part.

I submitted four different claims on American Home Shield's website. They all went smoothly and their website was user friendly. Mr. Appliance came out for the wall oven and dishwasher. They were excellent and professional. AHS replaced the whole unit so I was happy. They have been helpful and I am pleased. The wall oven was delivered was supposed to be delivered in three weeks but AHS told me that it should be up in three days. They also said they would install it and haul off the old unit, but nobody ever got back to me to do the install. So, I had it installed. I was under the understanding that somebody was going to contact me but they never did. And when I got online, I looked up the information and it said the issues were complete. But I'm going to take some responsibility on the fact that I haven't contacted them back. If I had called them, they probably would have gotten somebody out there to do it.
I have an outstanding claim for the air duct right now and it has not gone so smooth. AHS didn't have a contractor in-contract with them that would do the repairs that I needed to be done so they had me contact outside contractors. They had me get multiple companies to come give estimates on repairs and each company wanted a $100 to come out. And now that I've got estimates and turned them in, AHS is telling me I have a $500 cap so the claim has been a little frustrating. I wish I had known I had a $500 deductible. For what I needed to be done, I got estimates of $8,000 and $15,000. I have an email from AHS that they're going to give me cash in lieu of repair but I don't understand whether the cash in lieu of repair is $405 when the cap was $500 and I've already paid a contractor $95 to come look at it. They're taking that $95 that I paid to the contractor out of the $500 in lieu of repair which doesn't make any sense to me.

We've been with American Home Shield for about 5 months and we've been happy with them. My wife usually submits a claim over the phone and I've also done it online. They are reasonably easy to work with. However, they put you on hold for a long time. Plus, if you call in at the end of the day, they might put you on hold and leave you on hold forever. We had a built-in GE microwave with an oven which was built in 1985. They shared control panel, and at some point, the control panel LED stopped functioning on the microwave, so I couldn’t control the settings on the microwave. A person came in and they attempted to find parts, but the parts were not available so they decided to go with a replacement. However, that has not yet been installed.
We've been dealing with the claim for three weeks and they were fast. They spent a week or so looking for parts. The contractors were fine and we've got the installers scheduled for Wednesday. But we're not sure if it's going to fit because we can't find the space to put it in. We'd feel better if the person who comes out was willing to make adjustments, but it's a service they don't provide. I spent an hour trying to get a hold of AHS before giving up. We called the contractor and decided to take a chance. If it doesn’t work, it'll have to be adjusted. It introduces some uncertainty into the process, but maybe everything will go perfectly. But so far, American Home Shield has been fine.

Our dishwasher wasn't draining and I looked at all the basic things in them. YouTube says I could fix it but I wasn't too savvy on that. So for $75, a technician came out the day I called my claim which was a Thursday. He asked me what the problem was and I explained it to him. He knew what he was doing and he explained to me in a clear and concise manner what the problem was. He had to order a part though since he didn't have it. He then called on Tuesday and asked if I was I home. I was and he came and finished the job so it was a great experience. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The sprocket above the chain of our garage door opener came loose. I'm a pretty handy guy but it would cost me around $230 if I'll do it myself. My wife suggested to contact American Home Shield, so I went and looked at my contract and the garage door opener were included there. American Home Shield was responsive and they called me the next day after making my online submission.
Then the technician came out the next day. But he had to leave and get some additional parts to do the piece that wasn't covered. I was disappointed that the contract didn't entail all the operational pieces of a garage door opener because there was another piece in the system that ended up costing me $200. So, when I paid my deductible and then fixed the piece that wasn't covered, it's a $325 day. I spoke with the technician and he was very knowledgeable and very professional. Apparently, they're second generation garage door opener guys. So, he's very familiar with what happened and what needs to be done. He was clean, thorough, timely, and polite. Overall, it was a good experience.

I recently had an AC claim with American Home Shield and my experience was great. The heater sensor was out and they replaced that so it was staying hot now. Submitting the claim was great. Their reps have been nice and this experience was better than the experience I had with them last year because I did not think that I really understand how to do things then because my coverage was a little bit different than I thought until they explained everything it to me. I had one contractor last year when I had plumbing done but I wasn’t really feeling him. But not bad enough to do a major complaint. But this air conditioning guy, I could've just kept him. He was nice, concerned and was really, really thorough in doing and checking my filters. Things that you don’t have to ask. Just checking everything out for me. So, he did a really good job.
The AC was out of whack six days or so before I realized what was really going on. It was just running, running and running. And my electric bill shot up in that week. There were several appliances in the recent claim that I had. My ice maker in my refrigerator wasn’t working, I had a front loading washing machine that the seal had broke, and then a dishwasher that wasn’t draining. It was slow draining even though I had gone through the proper maintenance of cleaning things. The ice maker was fixed and the washing machine seal was replaced, but the dishwasher was not repaired or replaced. The service guy basically said due to the age of the machine, that it was really more cost-effective to replace it than repair it.
So when it came back declined, I called American Home Shield and they said, “Well, because that was something you could have maintained yourself.” The rep also said that if the maintenance guy had sent just normal and tear, then they could have fixed it. I guess the guy that came out worded it wrong, but age and wear and tear are almost synonymous. But I think he was great and I’m glad American Home Shield came out and fixed what they fixed. I asked if I can file a claim or get a second opinion for the dishwasher and she agreed. When I called back later because I haven’t heard from them in a while, she said I missed the deadline and told me she sent an email.

I love the service that I have received from Home Shield, and when I ordered the insurance policy, I liked that I was able to pay a minimal fee for a retired senior citizen. Seniors like me who are by themselves don't have a lot of money, so it is good to have this kind of service where you can rely 100% on a company sending you somebody who would fix a problem and you don't have to pay until they send a bill for what was done and it's a fixed fee. Also, Home Shield is a smart way for people to take care of home maintenance because they're not going to send in anybody out unless they are people who can be trustworthy.
Home Shield sent out a company for my plumbing claim recently and they did okay but I had to wait for them to come back and have the parts to the problem, and I was without the use of my ice maker for several days during this season. If they have had all of the parts at their office, it could have been done quicker. It is also a 2009 appliance so it is relatively new. They jerry-rigged the line leading from the refrigerator to the basement, and our water outlet from the street where the water comes in, and it took some time which I did not mind. I am a patient person and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but not having the part and having to come back into our home again was a bit frustrating for me.

The first claim I had with American Home Shield was when a tech from Travis Appliances came over. He told me he was going to go and get a relay from a call which he did but it didn’t work. Also, he worked at the bottom of the stove and got the serial number but he didn't even try to turn it on and he said that the nozzle didn't turn. I told him there was a knocking in the refrigerator but he didn’t check that. He just said that he's going to replace the gasket on the top and the bottom. He also mentioned how much work it's going to be if that didn’t work like changing the compressor but I never got a reply on what was wrong with the refrigerator.
The tech returned but it was to put a gasket in the refrigerator in another unit so I called their office to find out what’s going on with the stove and the refrigerator that he’d looked up. The first thing they said was that American Home Shield will replace the stove and that I have to call American Home Shield. However, American Home Shield said that they didn't have both claims on the appliances so I asked Travis Appliances to send me the claim they had with American Home Shield. Travis Appliance emailed me something but it was not what I asked for. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that there's a missing card for the stove but I told them that when the tech came to look at the stove, he took pictures and did whatever he had to do. Still, American Home Shield's advice was to have a second opinion.
When the second tech came out, he got the stove working and he showed me everything. As for the refrigerator, he ordered the relay but he said that he also needed to order the gasket for the bottom. He looked at the refrigerator which we had the gasket replaced last week and he said that I also need to replace its gasket judging by the moisture and the color on it. I took pictures of what he showed me and I sent it to American Home Shield. He said that he can't do anything with it because he didn't have a work order for that but he said that he can verify what he saw and I just have to let American Home Shield know.
I also had a tech from a plumbing company. He gave me a time on the phone and email but he didn't come and he never called so I called him about an hour later. He told me he'd come between 11:00 and 4:00 but he didn't. I called over and over again and the phone kept hanging up. I found an email address for him and I sent him an email but he never responded so I called American Home Shield. I had to wait for four hours for the tech to come and tell American Home Shield that he didn't show up. However, he said that he showed up on the date of the original call but I didn't see him. I was there in the unit and he said that he knocked on the door but he didn't because I never heard it. When he did show up on my date, he looked at the problem and he told me that I have to move all my kitchen cupboards to get to the pipes.
I had another call. The tech went to another unit next door and he told them that the toilet was backed up and they said that’s what they called American Home Shield for. The tech took a picture under the sink and then he walked over to next door to the other unit. He never looked inside the bathroom but he told all kind of lies in the report. He put his foot on the concrete and said that we need to dig all that up and then we can find a snake on it and then they can fix that problem. He said that they can reel in a live one if we break our pipes but American Home Shield had been sued because of it before. He said that he's going to call American Home Shield and tell the rep how much all of this will cost so I got so upset and I called American Home Shield myself. I waited for about an hour after I called and then the tech pulled out a baby diaper and didn't see the problem.
Every time the tech comes, American Home Shield wants to charge me another $125 for the service. But, they don't charge if the first opinion was incorrect. Also, one of the things I can check with American Home Shield was that they made sure that the contractors give the customer copy of their findings before they leave. They can email that to me just like the email that they all send so I’ll know what’s being said about the incident because the contractors go out and tell a complete lie. It’s my word against theirs.

Their rep could be a little bit nicer on the phone though. When the tech came, he didn't have the part with him. He had to make another trip somewhere to get to the hardware store and come back to put the part in. The backwash valve of my pool was leaking and I didn't realize it until my sprinkler guy came out because I had a leaking sprinkler head. I called American Home Shield and filed a claim for the O ring on that backwash valve. Their rep took down all the notes of what I needed, told me they would get in touch with the pool company and I would be getting an email and a phone call. I did within hours and they scheduled it for me. She was very professional and put the contractors in contact with me really quickly.
Then the contractor showed up on time and he was knowledgeable. I explained to him that there were several different issues all tied in to that one O ring because the vent was dripping. And when I went to backwash it, it shot water out of that vent all the way down to my sidewalk. I also needed all my filters checked in the backwash. I needed to see if the manifold needed cleaning. He took it apart and said they didn't need cleaning. And then he did the O ring thing. So he addressed multiple issues and the valve has been perfect since the repair. We just upgraded our coverage to cover everything we had. And then we pay monthly $50 but it went up to $56. We've been with them about three years now, and we've used them for refrigerator and washing machine. Recently I had a bunch of plumbing issues, and I've learned to file my claim over the phone because online, you can only put down one issue. And if you call them over the phone, you can list all your problems, which I did. I had about nine of them, and each one was taken care of. Each one of the reps I've talked to has been really helpful.
I had one contractor come out, and I was just satisfied, so I called AHS and I told them this one was satisfactory. And there's no problem, then they sent me another one. He represented himself, he had a real nice business card, and when he got here, he was dressed in cut off sweatshirts and a t-shirt, and an old crock, and this barely had the tools to do what he's supposed to do.
And then he said he was going to work on the issue, and he didn't show up. So, I went to his business address and it was just an old house where he was living. And then, I called AHS rep and told her. She got another one, and the guy came out with a truck and it was more professional looking. One of my air conditioning units stopped working. I filed an online claim to American Home Shield and they assigned a reputable repairman to it. He got out there quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. But the AC problem was not major that a warranty had to really cover. The contractor was very polite and very professional. Our air was out for a couple of days. And we live in Florida, so it was a little warm. But the air conditioning has been fine since the repair and the problem hasn't relapsed. I didn't have the disaster where I had to replace the whole system but I found out that the part was not covered so I have to pay for a repairman and pay for the part too. It was not a normal experience.
It's still difficult for me to quite understand what's covered and what's not. There's a lot of fine print relative to the warranty. It's not crystal clear on what specifically is covered. But when you dig into the fine print, there are a thousand exclusionary things. I found out that because of a loophole in the system, one of the most expensive elements of an AC repair is replacing the coolant. However, the contract does not pay for even 10% of coolant replacement cost, which was frustrating. And so, you might end up with an $800 bill just because that's excluded in the contract. That was a surprise. You don't know anything until you have a disaster.

My husband and I were working out in the garage last Wednesday. He came into the house ahead of me and said there was water all over the floor in the toilet on the first floor so we shut the water off. I got a flashlight and he said it looked like it was coming from the tank. We finally spot it and there was a crack on the back right corner of the tank, but you couldn't see it in the front of the tank. Of course this happens in the only hardwood floor toilet in the house but thank God we were home. We have a $4000 grandfather clock 10 feet from that bathroom door in the foyer, nice furniture in the living room and an oriental rug. They would have been destroyed if we were out of town and the water had kept running in there.
I called American Home Shield and told the claims representative Latisha that we're covered for this. But she left the phone for 15 minutes to look up our contract then she came back and said the claim would be covered. I set up a plumber to come the next day. But American Home Shield usually doesn't send somebody here for a week so I needed to get the water off totally. But the bottom left intake hose was still dripping after I shut the water all the way off. We had a 10 gallon bucket in here that was filling every hour and a half. But how were we supposed to go to bed? We couldn't get up every hour and a half to empty it. We didn't want to shut off all of our water either because we wouldn't have been able to take a shower next morning, flush the toilet or run the sink.
We finally thought that if we drained the tank, filled the rest of the tank in the back and then dried it out, we could take it off. It was just two bolts underneath and it was already cracked so we knew it was going to be trash anyway. We drained it with a turkey baster then unbolted and took it off, and put it on a blanket in the hallway. I also poked the fill hose from the wall and I put it in the hole where the tank had been which goes out to the sewer so it was bone dry in there.
The first plumber who came in didn't fix the problem. He told us the problem could have been due to a number of things but it most likely was due to old age. It was a 22-year-old tank and we did replace one on our master 10 years ago and it had a hairline crack on the bottom of it. But that was close to the outside wall of the house and it could've frozen, whereas this one is on an interior wall. We also had a couple of freezing nights a week and a half ago, then the next day it was 90. The next day it was 70. The plumber said that the toilet could've cracked because of the fluctuations in the water temperature. Then he said, "Either that or," and this confused us, "somebody leaned on it." Why would somebody lean back on a toilet? He said it could've been impacted by something but we're empty nesters in our 60s. Did he think we took the flood jammer and hit that thing?
Then he went outside and called American Home Shield. Half an hour later, while he was still out there in his truck, our house phone rang. It was American Home Shield. They were rejecting the claim because the plumber said we abused and broke our toilet tank. That bathroom is rarely even used. But the lady also told me that we could get a second opinion and if the second contractor disagrees with the first, we won't be charged for the second service call. I was going to be charged the second service call anyway so I said fine. Plus, if we wanted the first plumber to fix it independently, it would have been $395 and we couldn't afford it so he left.
After the plumber left, I spent the afternoon trying to find out where would get a tank ourselves to put on. We checked every plumbing place until finally the guy at Ferguson's said Crane doesn't exist anymore. Our toilet bowl and set here was a Crane and I thought we could just replace the tank on the back. So my husband and I made an executive decision. Even if American Home Shield approves the claim, they were going to give us a crap tank. So I started looking online and there were a few American Standard and Kohler tanks in stock up at Home Depot. So we took the car up there and bought one entire set.
The second plumber who came walked in and was very nice. He shook our hands and asked us what happened. He looked at the date stamped and said the toilet was old. But then he asked what the first plumber said and we thought that he didn't even know he was a second opinion. We were mad because American Home Shield told us not to say anything but they must've told him.
We told him the first plumber said we damaged it ourselves and he was like, "How in God's name?" He said that we were feeble and we couldn't have stood on the back tank. It's a tiny half-a and it's got an angled wall in it. Then he said, "Or the bolts on the bottom could have been tightened too much," which was interesting because the first plumber was the one who last worked on it when he put the fill valve in April. The second plumber also put a quarter turn valve in, a little nut and bolt, at that hose right at the wall and said that would shut the water off completely.
The plumber called American Home Shield and said the problem was due to normal wear and tear, that the tank is 22 years old and that tanks break. I don't think it was the tightening of the bolts either because when I took the tank off, I didn't feel that they were too tight under there. Then the plumber informed American Home Shield about the customer-supplied toilet which was $259 plus tax so it was $280. I figured American Home Shield would give us back the labor that we paid him on top of that but they called me the day before and said they were only giving me $133. I was praying again but I just am sick. Otherwise, we've been very happy with American Home Shield. They had to go on the plumber's say-so and it was very mean of him to go outside and say what he did after telling us in the hallway that it could've been water temperature or age. But American Home Shield has been very good to us.

We’ve had one contractor, Plumb Genius, that we have had multiple problems with. We have asked American Home Shield to not send that company to any of my addresses and they said that they'll put it on a vendor list that I don’t want. Then someone called in a plumbing problem and we got them again. I called American Home Shield and one person told me that I'm not allowed to request or deny a certain vendor. Some time recently, when we needed a plumber, my daughter did the claim online, and they sent a note saying it would be that same company that I do not want. My daughter said that that was the only one they had available and something needed to be done. And I was really not happy. The contractor told us that there’s a leak in the slab and he was going to have to get a jackhammer and tear up the floor. It was going to be very expensive and of course, American Home Shield didn’t cover that.
And so, I called AHS and talked to a very, very nice man and said there’s no problem with putting Plumb Genius on a list. I told him a couple reasons why and he asked me if there was a company that they had sent out before that I would like to have come out. I said yes, and he got it reassigned. The second contractor came out and everything was peachy-keen. They said something completely different. So we actually hired a third plumber to come out because if we did have a slab leak, we really did need to know and we certainly didn’t want Plumb Genius doing it. So the third plumber that wasn’t involved with American Home Shield agreed with the second plumber, that everything was cool. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I called them and I'm glad I got them because sometimes when things happen and I don't have the cash at hand, AHS is a good help for me. I just have to pay a little bit upfront then AHS pays the rest.
American Home Shield has done jobs for me. One morning, I went to the basement where my water heater was. I heard some water running and when I opened the door, water came out. I called AHS and a company came the next day or two. But I had to wait nine days before the company came back out again which was a long wait. But it was fine as the service was okay. My daughter was upset though because she didn't know what to do with the cold water. But it wasn't a life or death situation and I will use AHS again. They're on point and they did what they said they were going to do which is very good.

I've used American Home Shield for 10 years, and what's been going on lately has been a nightmare. I had a stove wherein the outlet was not working, and when the second one stopped, we just let it instead of calling American Home Shield. By the time that I called American Home Shield to get it fixed, there were several parts that had to be ordered. The service request was in, and I was trying to find out what was going on if they’d ordered the parts. There's no communication to let me know what's going on, and it's very aggravating to me. There's no follow-up on it at all. The whole experience was a headache.
The claim before that was in apartment B. The techs came out and said they would replace the stove. I didn’t even know they were ordering the stove. Nobody from American Home Shield communicated with me at all. The techs brought the stove, which had been on hold for two weeks. I didn’t even know that it was there. It sat on the floor over a week before anybody even called me. I called the people that did the service and they said, “We don’t put the stove in. We submitted this to American Home Shield.”
I have my home and I have a fourplex. I always get the service company number in my home, so I can be there and I can talk to the reps myself when they come. With the apartment, the AHS reps don’t call me and say they're coming. If I had known when they were coming, I could be there. There's no problem submitting the claim, but once the claim is submitted, there's a communication problem. I kept calling AHS and it took three weeks to get to them. The last three times I've called, I have had to hold on the line one hour. But now that the work is done, it's fine. They got the part in, everything is working and we're happy about it. American Home Shield is great and I've probably recommended their service to at least 8 to 10 of my friends that have gotten them in the 10 years I've had.

We had two claims in almost the same day. We had our water-heater leak and then we had a washer issue. It’s been the third time, but the main thing was the water-heater leaking, and I’m not happy with them at all. It took seven days to replace the water-heater around Thanksgiving. I was a big fan, I got about four or five friends that I had them go to American Home Shield and they’re terrible. When you call them -- and I called three times in three days to talk to somebody -- I don’t want to talk to a computer. I’m 70 years old I’ve been in sales for 44 years and I like to talk to people about a problem.
Every time I call them, it was a 55-minute wait before someone would answer their phone -- how many people would wait 55 minutes? So, they send the guy out. I live in North Phoenix and the contractor almost drove 45 minutes from South Phoenix down in Chandler Area. He was a young kid, and he was pretty good. He came out and he had to get an approval and I said, “You drove all the way out here in your van to look at my water-heater, the water’s everywhere in my garage and you have to get an approval? So, you didn’t bring a water-heater?” He goes, “No, we have to look at it.”
So, he looked at it for 10 minutes and he said, “It’s dead.” And I go, “Well, I would’ve told you that.” And he goes, “Okay, it’s going to be replaced by American Home Shield and it’s going to take five days.” And I go, “Five days? You’re a plumbing contractor and you don’t have one in your van? This is two days before Thanksgiving that you can put in my house?” He goes, “Oh, no. We have to get an approval, then they have to send it from their warehouse. So, we can’t use the water-heaters in our contracting business, they have to send it.” And I go, “How long does that take?” And he goes, “Four or five days.” I said, “So, I have no hot water for five days?” He said, “Yes, sir.” So, thank God, I belong to a country club and my wife and me for five days every morning when we’d go and take showers, we had to go to our health club, take showers and all that.
So, four days later, he called and he goes, “I got the water-heater.” So, he comes out and before he puts it in he goes, “I want 403 dollars.” And I go, “For what?” He said, “To install the new water heater.” I said, “I’m getting it replaced, you’re replacing the old and broke. I have a contract.” And he goes, “Well, unless you write me a check right now, I cannot put the new one in.” And I go, “How long is this going to take you?” And he goes, “Oh, about 20 minutes.” I said, “And I got to pay you 403 dollars?” He goes, “You got to give me a check before I start.” I said, “Are you kidding me?”
So, I call American Home Shield. 55-minute wait on the phone and I didn’t talk to anyone, the kid was here, we were pissed. I wrote a check for 403 dollars and I go, “Put it in.” And he did. Then he said to me – he was on like a little dry wall pedestal and he goes, “Well, you should’ve taken this off and then you could’ve fixed the dry wall before I put the new one on there.” I said, “Why didn’t you tell me that when you came out the first time? Why didn’t you take it off with me then I could’ve gotten it fixed?” So, the dry wall wasn’t too bad as I was in the construction business. So, he attached a new one that has a secure warranty, shook my hand, and then he left.
I was home and I told my wife, “I’ve been with American Home Shield for five years and they are done.” This is what they do, they scam you on the back end, they don’t tell you about this and no one ever told me except this contractor. I couldn’t communicate with anyone at American Home Shield, and I will never do this again. Two days later, we call them right about another washer issue. And we’ve had our washer jumping up and down making noises and everything else. Now, they’ve sent two contractors out. Both times, when the contractor comes out here and it cost me a hundred dollars. I wrote again a check.
The first time they come out the guy was here and didn’t fix anything. So, I called them again and said, “This guy didn’t know what he was doing.” He came out, and they go, “Oh, we’ll send another company.” So, I had to write another check for a hundred dollars. So, the third guy came out and he told my wife, “This washer you have will last for a long time, but you can’t put it on this one cycle that most people use, you got to just put it on this basic cycle.” And he goes, “I’m not going to charge you because I’m here for two minutes, and let’s put some wash in.” The kid was a nice kid. My wife puts some wash in and it ran well. That was three weeks ago, and it's been running perfectly.
I guess every time they come out they have to charge you a hundred dollars, but this kid said to my wife, “This is ridiculous. This is the third time you’ve had someone out here and no one told you this before. So, don’t pay me a hundred dollars.” So, lately I’ve gotten four letters from American Home Shield that I owe them a hundred dollars, and I called my credit card company and canceled American Home Shield. I have until February, I have a year agreement. So, they can’t get money from me anyway and I refuse to pay them, but I can’t talk to anybody to tell them about this situation. Because I tried to call again, explain the situation, why that kid never charged me a hundred dollars – he was a very honest kid, and now they say I owe you a hundred dollars.
I have told my three friends about this and they haven’t had any problem, and they’re all going to cancel. Also, my credit is terrific, I pay all my bills but when I have a situation like this, I can’t wait until they call me and I’m going to tell them, “Well, I’ll call you back in 55 minutes.”
Hi, Paul. We do apologize if certain information is not being conveyed to you as it should. Per our records, we did contact you about the non-covered costs affiliated with the hot water heater replacement. Your recall period is for 60 days. The clothes washer was last repaired in January of 2017, your work order placed on November 9th would create a new work order as it is past a 60 day period. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you about your service work order and to discuss your request to cancel.

Two months ago, our AC was definitely not cooling, although the fan was fine. Sometimes the AC would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Submitting the claim went fine, and then the contractor came out in a day or two. They ordered the part, which took the longest to get the order - it took at least a week and a half to get that part. It was not the super hot part of the summer though. Then they got it fixed, and it has been working fine since the repair. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

We had an awesome experience with American Home Shield. We had a faucet in the bathtub of our hallway bathroom. My husband was taking a bath and the faucet blew off. We looked for a faucet and thought that we'll just fix it ourselves, but realized that the faucets we were looking at were not going to do the trick. It was a Saturday and we thought we'd call on Monday and get a plumber to fix it for us. I was in an extra bedroom and the carpet was all wet. I told my husband that we had a problem and that we had a leak somewhere. We pulled back the carpet and the padding was all wet. So I called American Home Shield and told the rep what the problem was. She was very helpful and before she even had all the info, she already called and dispatched the plumber. She told us that it was a serious thing since we had wet carpet on the floor.
Within 15 minutes, someone from Lovett A1 Plumbing called us and told us that he would be here within 20 minutes. He came out and spent a couple of hours here. Plus, he also tried to find a faucet that would work. He had to cut a hole in that wall of the bedroom to see where the leak was coming from. It was behind where the bathtub faucet was. The water ran back behind the walls somehow and came up under the other wall. He cut two little holes in my bedroom wall and he kept monitoring it through the whole process. Plus, he finally found a faucet that would work. He fixed it and had to work with the copper pot that came off the wall, where the faucet was attached. He worked very well and I really appreciate him.

I'm a medical alert patient and I made her aware of that so their rep got me someone within a day. The contractor called me back and since I recently had surgery and I'm going out for therapy, they worked with me on my schedule and kept me posted to let me know who is coming. They were very professional and I would recommend that company to people with heating and air conditioning problem.

I filed three claims with American Home Shield this year and it has been problematic. We couldn't get through to talk to somebody. We’re on the phone for 45 minutes on hold because I wanted to talk to a person. Then there was also the issue with the people that didn't even bother to call. But generally, the contractors have been fine but one time for my pool pump issue, the company that they submitted the request to never contacted me. The second company was really good, but they had to jump through hoops to get the authorization because it was one of those that had to be totally replaced. The latest claim that I had to file with American Home Shield was for my dryer which didn’t heat and this time was okay because I knew what to do as far as going online to do it. Since the repair, the dryer’s been fine.
I understand your concerns with a few of the service requests you have placed. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

Some things with American Home Shield have been really good in the past, but some things were not. We had a horror story with the refrigerator. My husband complained tremendously about it. I had to transfer things to coolers into our garage refrigerator on a regular basis for about three months. It broke down three different times before we finally could get a refrigerator that worked. And then with the washer/dryer situation, it went on for over a month. The agitator was sucking it under so it was ruining clothes. And it was an inexperienced service person who came out the first and the second time. The third time, we got somebody who knew what they were doing, and then we finally got a really nice new washer. With the microwave, we were quite surprised that American Home Shield didn’t immediately say that they would replace it. It was a used microwave and around 20 years old. They said they were going to repair it.
My husband always starts the claim process online and I would speak to their reps at times. They have been lax, delayed, and they have racked up service calls and payments when it was unnecessary. They could do better. Some of the contractors are good, most are excellent. And if we don’t like them, American Home Shield can reschedule with somebody else. It hasn’t been always the best experience with American Home Shield, and since we were stuck paying and needed the service, we have to go with it. And the delays are so that they could keep charging for service calls.

I've had several appliances break down and American Home Shield has come out and fixed them. The most recent one was for my refrigerator. The contractors who came were professional and did what they were supposed to do. They say that they track their people with GPS and they know where they are. For instance, if I call them for a repair for my washing machine and they come out. They say that come in Tuesday at 1 o’clock and I’m not there. I said, “No, I’m here.” They don't show up until they charge you $100 fee regardless of whether they showed up at the right location or not. And we have no avenue of recourse.
And if we were to cancel our contract with them then they give us the cancelation fees and penalties and everything else that goes along with it. So it’s much cheaper just to bite the bullet and pay the $100 and go on. Because they probably do that a thousand times a day. Who knows? So I’ll probably won’t take AHS again when it’s time to renew it.

We have been living in our home for about two months now and got American Home Shield when we closed on our condo. We had a leaky kitchen faucet and so they came out to fix it, including the garbage disposal. It was originally working okay, but then it started not to drain properly. The plumber came out and assessed the situation. He was great and very prompt. And then, about a week later he came back with parts as replacements. Everything went smoothly from there.
Calling them is a nightmare but submitting the claim online was very easy. Within 24 hours, I get a call from whoever has been assigned to come out and see us. However, claims that have had to be resolved outside of the normal realm of things have walked by. The follow-up call has been frustrating because of how long they had to attend to me over the phone. But ultimately, everything has been resolved.
The contractors they send out are mixed. We've had very honest contractors and they are frank with us with regards to their ability to fix things. And so with the garbage disposal, they told us that the part I've had installed was the lowest end of the line and that's what they can offer. But there's an option to upgrade with an additional amount. It's because American Home Shield requires the exact same replacement for what the contractors are taking out, which is just their policy. Overall, I've had a positive experience with AHS. This is our first time owning a house and we don't really know who to go to, so having AHS is a nice exposure.

The most recent claim I had was with the air conditioner and the heat pump, and the AC people came out three times. The tech came once to check it because it was not cooling and he ended up putting a coolant in. He wasn’t sure whether there was a leak or not, so he put in something that would show that there was a leak. A couple of weeks later, it was not cooling again, so I called American Home Shield and the tech came out. He found two leaks, but he wasn’t sure whether he got all of them and he pressurized it, and he came back this past Monday. The pressure was up so there were no more leaks, and he put the refrigerant back into the system, so it's fine.
I also had a refrigerator claim and the only problem I had with it was that American Home Shield immediately contacted Sears. After three to four postponements, Sears got somebody out there who did absolutely nothing. I reported that to American Home Shield, and they immediately switched to another contractor. It is always very easy to submit a claim and I always call to make sure that everything gets put in properly. The only time there was a problem was when a young lady rep had a little problem with the computer late at night, but other than that, it's always been very good. American Home Shield is dependable but you have to read the contract to be sure that you're covered for replacement value.

I noticed a very wet spot on some carpet in the basement but I could not figure out where the water was coming from. So I called and had them send out a furnish guy since the wet spot was a couple of feet in front of where my furnish is. The first guy came out and said that it's definitely not my finish. It was a plumbing issue.
So then we switched and we had a plumber come out. I had to rip up some of the carpets. We then realized that there's a french drain under the carpet and for some reason, that sewer was blocked. We tried to replicate the problem because it wasn't backing up anymore no matter what we did until we finally poured water into the actual drain and it backed up. Immediately, he snaked it and cut it out. He noticed something was in my hot water and it probably needs to be replaced. He gave me a price that was very reasonable so I'm going to call them next week and schedule to have that replaced.
But I had some bills showing up from AHS and they were charging me for the first people that were coming out. I called and told them that I'm unsure about it, but the guy didn't do anything. All he said was I had to call the plumbing people so I don't really understand why I'm being charged for the heating and cooling people who came out. And then I had a charge for the plumbing people and I said that I paid them when they were here. The customer service representative was able to realize why I was being mischarged and she assured me that I don't have to pay anything extra.
The customer service representative was extremely nice. As soon as I explained the problem she was very accommodating. She was able to pull up my records and saw where the problem was. Though it took her a while to get it rectified on the computer she kept coming back on the line saying "I'm sorry it's taking me long. We'll get it figured out." And then she did come back and she said, "Okay. It's all taken care of. She then gave me confirmation numbers and said that it takes about three weeks to go through accounting. She added that I may get some additional bills but my confirmation numbers tell that everything is paid in full.
Since the repair everything has been fine. Though I don't understand why that sewer became clogged because the people that lived here before me were pretty meticulous with the house. It might be some type of a weird drain that's not in use very often. I'm a single mom and some of these repairs are all new to me. And owning a home by myself for once it was reassuring to know that I had people at American Home Shield to help me through it all. Everybody was extremely helpful at American Home Shield and they got things fixed right away.

We had issues with our air conditioner. I submitted a claim both online and through the phone. The representative was great. The website is fine if the claim is something basic, but it was a little cumbersome. A lot of times I had to call them to specify something. With the claim I put in, the website actually assumed that was a recall on another issue, when it wasn't. I've also tried to put in another claim for my fridge and it doesn't have the correct options, so I can't complete the request online.
The contractors were awesome, though. They called us and let us know when they were on the way. We've had much better luck with the contractors through AHS than we have just calling on our own. They don't try to over repair things. I've recommended AHS several times to my co-workers and friends. They make it very easy and relieved a lot of stress around this kind of repair.

We had two separate claims which both happened the same week. One was for a refrigerator and one was for some plumbing issues. The refrigerator claim was easy to submit. We were contacted right away and the repairmen came out right away to fix it. It was a maintenance issue that we weren't aware of and the contractor even showed us what to do in the future. The repair was flawless and the refrigerator is fine now.
With the plumbing issue, we were encouraged to submit the service request online. We did it but the options given did not specifically apply to our issue. So, we chose the best option and when the plumber got here, he refused to do some of the work because they were not in his work order. We called American Home Shield and it took us an hour to talk to a person every time we called. AHS was able to adjust the work order for the repairman to do the work but it took two appointments because the first time he was not able to work with the type of faucets that we have in our home so he left without completing the work. Then it took several phone calls to get AHS to reassign that service request to someone else until it was eventually taken care of. It was frustrating and it took full two weeks before we got somebody to complete the repair.
The plumber who came out showed us what was wrong but he couldn't fix it so we eventually got it fixed on our own. He was borderline rude and we wouldn’t ever use him on our own. In the end, we paid the service charge when the refrigerator guy came and we did not pay the service fee for the plumber the first time because he did not complete the job. But we paid it the second time when he completed one of the two issues.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield online took me about two minutes and it was very easy. I wasn't getting any heat from the heater and the contractor originally thought he had fixed it because we felt heat pumping out when he worked on it. Unfortunately, the lines froze over. There was actual ice on the line both inside and outside, so I had to call him back and he was very responsive. He looked at it and he figured out that the control panel was actually calling for the AC and heat at the same time. So, he had to replace the control panel, which he didn't have one with him. It was late in the day, so he came back the following Monday and installed it and it’s good to go. AHS has been nothing but fair. I’ve filed claims on three different things but American Home Shield only covered one of them. A plumber came out because there was a leaky toilet. He replaced the flapper but he put in a wrong kind of flapper and I paid the $75 deductible. We thought it was fixed at the time but it wasn’t so I waited for something else to go wrong before I have them come back.
Then the hot water dispenser started leaking. The technicians came back and replaced the flapper again and the flapper was fixed on the toilet. But, they said that the hot dispenser was not covered. They told me it would cost $80 to fix it so since they were right there, I gave them $80 to fix it. All they did was tighten some things. Then, I had an inspector come out to inspect the stovetop since it wouldn't start. They told me that I should have called AHS so they could fix the stovetop. An appliance guy came to look at the stovetop and said that it was water damage so AHS would not pay for it. The repair cost $500 to fix it so I’ll just use a match to light the stovetop.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield recently for my water heater. At the beginning, filing it was not too hard. I got something automated, so it wasn't a live person, and then I got people to come out. The pilot went out and I tried lighting it, but it wouldn't stay lit. The guy that came out tried too and had a heck of time getting it to stay lit but finally he did. He fixed some little wires but he said it probably would happen again, so it was a band aid type fix that wouldn't last. T
Later on, I got an email from American Home Shield saying something about a new water heater. I called them up to make sure that they pay because I knew I had to pay for the upgrades. My water heater was put in the 1970’s and I knew that there were things to be done to get it up to today’s code. I was on hold for over an hour and I was red hot by then. I hung up before I exploded. Finally I gave up and then the plumbing company got back with me and told me that they had contacted American Home Shield. They decided, with the plumbing company’s recommendation, on a new water heater which I think was greatly needed. So my water heater is in and done.
Some people gave me the name of other companies and I might look into them. What good does it do to have a company like this that will fix things when they need to be repaired when customers can't even get through to them? I know several people are looking into home warranties and before, I would tell them I have American Home Shield and that AHS has always been real good about fixing things. In the past it's been okay but this is ridiculous. As far as getting my things repaired, once I was hooked up with a company then things went okay. About three calls that I have recently with American Home Shield were satisfactory in terms of the technician who came to diagnose and order the parts within a reasonable amount of time. I have two real concerns, though. One is if I want to keep a specific contractor who I've had a prior good experience with, I cannot do that on the website. And two is in a plumbing claim, for example, if I want to add an additional plumbing item that I've found, I also cannot do it on the website. These simple things I have to put in a call to talk to a claim representative and the typical wait time is an hour and a half. That has constantly been the experience. That is just too long to wait to talk to someone in the claims department.

However, they left a little mess upstairs that had to be vacuumed but I didn't make a big deal of it. Everything was doing good and they made sure that the door was closed. I have a little dog and they made sure that he didn't get out when I couldn't get it in time. I was able to get the contractor out quickly this time but there have been other times that they've not come out. Overall, sometimes, they could be a little slow to get a contractor out.

We had a problem with our heater, and American Home Shield gave me the name of the contractor. Then the contractor contacted me, scheduled my appointment for a week later and they told me that was within the guidelines but that didn’t end up working out. The company ended up calling me on the day they were supposed to be here and said that their tech called in sick and that they had to put me at the end of the list. They refused to work with me at all and the girl told me they can’t pay overtime to somebody just because they can’t have somebody come out. She made a big deal about how the tech that called in sick was going to come in on a Saturday, which was another five days later, to cover his appointment that he had for that day.
I said that I should be up to the front of the line with a different technician because we’ve been waiting for eight days. The girl really had no idea but she was just saying they're not going to pay somebody overtime just because of that reason. I said that if they have an appointment scheduled, they can’t tell me that they will not pay overtime pay. That’s their business. To tell me that they’re not going to pay somebody overtime when they’re overbooked and they can’t meet their appointments doesn’t make sense.
I mentioned that when I called back to them after they cancelled with me because they were telling me my only option was that next Saturday and my husband was really upset about it. He said that there was no way we are working with them. I was not happy about it so I called back American Home Shield and I explained the situation. They said that since I was over their seven-day approval time, they allowed me to switch to a different provider and they found somebody. The lady put me on hold and found somebody right away and explained that I’ve been waiting forever to have my heat fixed. We had no heat for over two weeks and we were using space heaters. Somebody called me back right away within a half an hour of finding a new company. The reps were really friendly and helpful.
The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is I cannot get a hold of them. I have waited four times for at least 40 minutes on hold to try to get a hold of somebody. There are certain things that I can do on the website but there are certain things that I can’t do. The problem is they don’t answer and there’s no way to make the call to get somebody any quicker except when they want me to renew. If I call the renew number, I don’t get a hold because they want my money. Not all people have 40 minutes to wait on hold. They really need to change that.
Also, when we bought our home, the seller gave the warranty which he only paid $280 and it didn’t cover all that much. One of the techs that came out to our house said that all my stuff was right about the time when I was going to start having a problem so he recommended renewing the warranty. When we went to renew the same policy with the same coverage, it was $408. I was pissed about that. But I ended up renewing and I added AC to my renewal because that wasn't included in the warranty. Other than that, the contractors have always been good and my experiences have been positive.

One of our stove's burners had a faulty switch for a while, and we finally called American Home Shield to file a claim. The faulty switch was an inconvenience but the service tech replaced it and now, it's performing well. We've been with American Home Shield for years and their representatives and contractors have been fine. And it's a good service overall.

We've been with American Home Shield for ten years. They have a good program. Interacting with the people on the phone goes fairly good. I usually recommend American Home Shield, but maybe because most of the time I get good people come over and fix it right away. But sometimes, the subcontractors that they send aren't that great. They don’t care so many times. The guy sent by AHS for the furnace was on it for three minutes. He says it was something with the blower. My wife says, “How did it happen?” And the guy just said, “You tell me.” We’re paying him to fix it, not to try to have us guess. He then adjusted the fan. Supposedly he fixed it, but three minutes after he left, the furnace started making the same noise again. I usually just let it slide, but not this time.

The self-cleaner on my oven wouldn’t clean. It got too hot and it shut off and the fan wasn’t working. I called AHS and the appliance people that they worked with were great. They fixed my oven and it's working fine. I really like AHS' appliance people a lot. They come out right away, I never have to wait. They’re very efficient.

I did a callback on my ice maker on the refrigerator which I had claimed for with American Home Shield. They had sent a repairman out about two weeks before and he said he just cleaned it out and that it was okay. A part had come off and he wasn’t sure what it was. And so, it worked for about a week and then the same thing happened where it wasn’t working anymore. I called Art Plumbing back and the owner came back and he said, “Yes, you need a new one and he should have known what this part was.” So, he put a new one in and everything has been fine. I've been happy with it.
It was a little bit of an inconvenience however that they wouldn’t come out after 3:30 in the afternoon. I'm a teacher so I can't take off whenever I want to and I don’t get off school until about 3:15. So, I had to have a friend come by and stay here until they got here. Also, I wasn’t really happy with the first gentleman who came out. He didn’t seem as knowledgeable as he should have been. I wish American Home Shield would send someone out the first time that knew what he was doing, should have known what the part was that has gone off. Other than that, every time I've had a problem, even if it took a time or two, it was taken care of. I’ve submitted my claim online and have talked to reps over the phone as well and they were very nice.

American Home Shield did a good job on my last claim. I called them up, they assigned a plumber for my issue with the toilet, and then I called the plumber before he calls me. He seemed to be professional and he came out within a day. He had the part, got the work done, and didn't have to come back. The toilet now works better than before the plumber got to it. I paid my deductible to American Home Shield and I hope they continue to give good service on time.

One time last year, we went for over two months without a toilet because American Home Shield was arguing over replacing it or not. But the last time somebody came out, they were really on the job. They were very good and very professional. I usually submit my claims over the phone. Our most recent claim was for a garbage disposal and a faucet, and we had a good experience. However, in the past, they had sent out some people that didn't do a really good job. On the other hand, this guy did a good job. He was very honest, very professional and on time. I hope they keep sending out good people and not send out lousy people because they’ve done that several times.

Our coil went out, so I called American Home Shield to set up an appointment, and their representatives were very nice, helpful, and told me what needed to be done. They sent out contractors to assess the problem, and they were very professional. They told me what was wrong, then we set up another appointment, and they came back to replace and fix the coil. They did a great job, and now, the AC is working fine. AHS called, followed through, and lifted our problem. I’d recommend them.

I have submitted a plumbing claim by way of a telephone call and the American Home Shield reps were responsive and attentive. They wanted to know when the problem occurred and what the problem was, and then they assigned a plumber, immediately gave me the number of the company and told me when I should expect a call from them. I got a call from the plumbing company within 24 hours and the company was sent out at the time that American Home Shield promised. The contractor arrived on time and they were very efficient. They came more than once but each time they were doing something different. They explained everything that they had to do and everything that they would be doing as a follow-up.
That problem was fixed but I have been waiting for a couple of weeks for these other problems to be addressed. There was moisture on the wall so a restoration company had to come out and open up the walls and put fans. They are scheduled to come this week to close the walls, texture the walls, paint them and put everything back in place. The response time with American Home Shield has always been very prompt and I am satisfied with the service.

We purchased our house in 1993 and that was when AHS was offered to us. The house was built in 1978 so it's an older home with possible issues and we've kept up with AHS so that it will keep the cost down for any repairs. I've submitted claims both online and over the phone. Recently, I had an issue where the fan belt motor burned out in our heat pump and had the fire department come out since there was smoke everywhere, then I called AHS. The downside was that I had to wait an hour on the phone to speak to somebody as they prefer everything to be done online.
But the good part was that they were able to contact the provider that could come in that same day. The interaction I had with the contractor was very good. He was very nice and very professional. He had it done the same day and the heat pump has been working fine since then. I've had AHS come out three times this year and everything's gone smoothly. AHS is a good value for the premium that people pay.

I talked to other people and they all have all the good things to say about American Home Shield. I've had them on my house since 2006 and I like them. I haven’t had trouble and I don’t know where I would be without them or their coverage. When filing a claim, I have the option of doing it online, waiting for customer service or doing it through the main service. When I had a problem with my AC/heating unit where it wasn't working, I called them and had good customer service. They got someone over here the next day and it seemed that the problem was fixed. But I had to call again because I had a problem again. It was fixed though. My experience has been efficient and I have recommended AHS to people.

We called American Home Shield for a clogged drain. The contractor who came out to our house was professional. He was on time, as stated when he called. He was not very thorough the first day but on the second day, he was able to pinpoint that the issue was in the main drain. And then we had to take another step but it took him the second day to determine what was the main issue. So far, the plumbing has been good and we haven’t had to call again. We know what the issue is, which will require a major removal of the pipe where the root is but the issue is not present at this time. American Home Shield doesn’t have multiple contractors. The person was professional and resolved the issue on the second trip, but it didn’t provide more flexibility.

When we bought our house, the American Home Shield warranty was transferred to us. Then we had issues with two different appliances. There was an initial contact and then after I made the phone call, the contractor company called me up within 24 hours. They sent out Jefferson the following day and he assessed it. He looked at everything, told me that they would be in contact with a decision, and kept me in the loop. Since it couldn’t be fixed easily, we chose the replacement option and I got a call this morning that they’ll be here tomorrow. Everything was quick, smooth and painless. I'm very satisfied with AHS so far and I just renewed with them.

I've been with AHS for so many years and I've had a lot of trouble with them. Last year, I fought with them over a drier. It was two months of back and forth, different service reps coming out and me having to take time off work to be there. It was a nightmare that should not have been. They finally replaced it, but they should have done so from the beginning. Plus, I got the cheapest drier I could get because they would only give me a few hundred dollars for it.
I also had a washer and having it replaced was another ordeal but it was done. The air-conditioner was the worst one. It went out on a Friday, about 2:00 in the afternoon. We're in Arizona so it was 115 degrees outside. I called American Home Shield and I put in a work order. The rep said the contractor couldn't get there until Monday. I canceled the work order and called somebody on my own to get it fixed. The people I got told me that all American Home Shield was going to do was to keep putting parts in and get the AC to run. They didn't replace very quickly. I ended up getting a new air-conditioner since the previous one was so old, 26 years old.
I called AHS and was told to send in the receipts for the AC and to make an appeal to them. They denied me because they said I didn't follow protocol because I should have called them back and maybe they could have gotten an emergency person out there. But I thought I followed the protocol because when I called them and tried to get someone out there, they couldn't be there until Monday. What was I going to do? I am not happy with American Home Shield and I would not recommend them. The whole idea is if they can't fix something, it has to be replaced. The process was such a rigmarole to go through.
AHS also keeps you on hold for so long and when you want to talk to a supervisor, they put you into them and you leave voicemails and nobody ever calls you back. They're horrible. I understand that AHS is a large company but they should get people to work. We all pay our bill on-time and they work for us. Also, I forked the money out of my own pocket for the AC and I should have technically had it covered. The best thing AHS could do is to reimburse me my money. Overall, I still have AHS but I have very minimum on there.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several different times with different houses and I’ve always hated it because I dreaded using the service which took so long. The people were generally so inexperienced and amateur-ish when they came out. But the last two times had been exactly the opposite. It seemed like from the outside looking at a very well oiled machine. I submitted the claim online and I immediately got a reply from American Home Shield and from the technician who came. The guy even called before he showed up. The repair happened in less than 24 hours.
I asked AHS to come out and fix my heater to be sure it was safe to run it for the winter time. Then I made a follow-up to my last request to them that I wanted to be sure that all condensation had a way to drain out since there was a bit of water accumulating in my drip pan and a blow in my air conditioning unit in my attic. The guy who came a couple of weeks ago for the drain problem was the same guy who fixed some moisture that had seeped through our ceiling. He knew exactly what to look at. Besides him, the other guy was personable and I start over explaining to him what the last guy did. He talked to us and told us what he was doing and it was a great interaction. American Home Shield is great and easy to do business with.

I have to hold forever. But when I finally talked to someone, they were very nice. We were very pleased with them. Since the repair, our Clarity Spa works well. It was something that needed to be fixed because the pool pump had to work. We've been very pleased. When we moved in, my washing machine and the heater didn’t work so we had two calls and they both were handled very nicely. The only thing is one guy didn’t know if I was supposed to pay him so I gave him a check and then later he called me to say, “No, you weren’t supposed to pay me” so he tore the check up and I was billed later, which I paid. The technicians were very capable. I'm going to call and make an appointment for a plumber, though, because all of the toilets make funny noises and it makes me nervous. Overall having AHS is a good experience.
