When we bought the house, I had a leak in one of my faucets. So I called American Home Shield to have it repaired and the guy came out and checked it. I had to order some parts then he came back and fixed it. Since then it's working just fine. And then we also had another claim to have the house rekeyed after we bought it. The reps were pretty helpful with answering questions that I had. But the day before we close with the house, they didn't have my contract readily available, so I wasn't sure what was and wasn't covered. But we're able to set it up with the appointments and we kept moving forward because I wanted to get the leak fixed and my house rekeyed. I finally got the contract after a week.

I like the guy who came in and rekeyed the house. He did what he needed to do. And he was in and out in a pretty quick time. He didn't really bothered me. He gave me the keys and left. And everything works fine. The other guy that came in for the faucets was also pretty quick in fixing the issue. Overall, American Home Shield did amazingly well and they did what I expected.

I only had one claim with American Home Shield. It started in July and it was just completed last week. As far as rectifying the problem, they continuously band-aided it until they had to replace the compressor on the air conditioner. Their contractor was responsive and on time. They scheduled well. On their first trip, they charged me for a pound of Freon, as well as the service visit. And then, within a couple of weeks, it wasn't working again. So, they had to come back out and they did something else but there was no replacement of any parts or anything that lasted for another month or two. Then, they came out and jumpstarted on it and that worked for a week. But within a week, it was acting up again intermittently, and not working throughout a portion of the summer. But it was our upstairs air conditioner, so it wasn't our primary air system.

We finally were nearing the end of the exploration of our warranty and I became more persistent about taking another call into them to get them to come and take a look at it. They came out within days of my warranty ending and determined that I needed a compressor. But all the prior attempts could have been avoided if they had just acknowledged that on the front and that was always the issue.

My experience with American Home Shield took a while to get my unit fixed. But, all in all, it was fine. Ultimately, I got my unit repaired. But I chose not to renew because I thought that the rate had gone up too significantly. When I originally bought it, it was $650-ish and they wanted $1100 to renew it for the second year. So, I opted not to because the compressor repair was probably a $1500 repair. So, by the time I paid for the Freon, and the multiple service calls that I had to invest in it as well as the first Freon shot, I probably put $800 in it. So, I've looked at the first year as a value, but didn't see the value in renewing.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my electrical and submitting the claim online is the easiest. I was semi-impressed with the contractor. They were pleasant and punctual. They gave a good ETA and they did exactly what they said they would do. The performance is great after the repair and it was done in one appointment.

The transmission in my washing machine was all rotted out, and it was time to replace it. So, I had American Home Shield come to fix it, and it went really smoothly. Everything was great. I called in at night, and they took care of it. They also said that they would come in 10 days, but they were here in six. The machine’s been nice since the repair. I’ve had American Home Shield for 18 years, and they’re efficient. When the air conditioner goes out, I can call no matter what time at night, and then they have someone out by the next morning. They’re here when they say they’re going to be.

My heat pump went out, started making a big rattling noise, and was just blowing hot air. I let it go for a few weeks but it wasn’t getting any better so I called American Home Shield up. They then sent out a company that concluded that the compressor had gone out. He said that they would repair and replace the compressor which would typically be a $3000 or $4000 job and they were only going to pay $1800, and that didn’t cover permits. However, he didn’t address the other issues like the clanking. I was asking the guy who came here about the other issues, but he only seemed to send in a quote for the compressor. So, when American Home Shield contacted me, it was only for the heat pump and not the other issues. So, I researched the company that they sent out, and they had horrific reviews.

Why wouldn't they have other reputable companies on their roster rather than these shady ones which seemed to like to make claims about one issue so they can come back and fix the next one later? I opted not to have them touch my unit, and called AHS to ask what I could do, and wanted to have another better and more reputable company. I wanted to check if they would do anything else, and they said no. The only other option I had was cash in lieu, like a check. Plus, they only offered $801, which is pretty much only the cost of the part itself, not the labor. I didn’t understand why in a $3000-$4000 quote, with me paying $1800 would they only cut a check for $801.

AHS is only good for small appliances. They don’t want to do big repairs, only the little ones, and that’s exactly what I’m going to keep using them for. If they’re getting $31 a month from a consumer, and it costs $100 for a repair call, if you paid for a full year and call them once and pay the $100, you already pretty much paid for a new dishwasher. We are dissatisfied with AHS mainly because of the companies they partner with. I might have let them do it if I just trusted the people they were working with.

AHS insure things but not as much as possible, and you end up working with shadier companies. If they diagnosed the entire thing, they might have looked and said that there were a few parts that weren’t working right. I know a little bit about ACs, and they didn’t notice that there was a little fire that started on the hard start motor, which if it’s not working, or it blows out, the compressor will blow. And that’s what happened. My wife and I will probably go with Gilmore. It’s a reputable company.

The American Home Shield's contractor came at the time he said he was going to come and looked at our HVAC system and the furnaces to see if they were putting out carbon monoxide. And in his opinion, they were not because the fire was burning blue. But he did not have his carbon monoxide tester tool with him so, he’s going to have to bring it back in the next days or next week to test it. He said there’s a part in the furnace that gets rid of excess gas and vents it out into the house. We have two furnaces and that unit was old and not working optimally in both furnaces.

So, he called American Home Shield and reported that and they said that they’d cover that, so he ordered those two parts. He stated that the parts would take 10 days to come out. And so, I said, “Well, I don’t want to wait that long to retest, so can you come out prior to that time to test?” And he said he would come out early next week to get his tool because he had forgotten it for today’s appointment. So, he’s going to come twice. He’s going to come back early next week, do the carbon monoxide testing, then he’s going to install the new parts, the induced draft generator, and then he’s going to test it again just to make sure that there’s no chance of carbon monoxide.

One of the things that I really don’t like about AHS, it’s that I can’t reach a human being when I call them. And when you call them, the little voice on the phone basically says, “Okay. Pick a device or appliance that’s broken.” And so, you have to pick something that’s broken, and then they’ll register an appointment with a plumber or an HVAC or whoever, and then they’ll call you to schedule something. But I don’t have the ability to speak to a human. I once was online for 45 minutes waiting to just talk to a human, and literally, they picked up, and like, “Hello? Hello?” And I didn’t say hello fast enough back to them, they hung up. So, I have a customer service with AHS in terms of speaking to a human.

The issue is I got a weird smell coming from the closet area in the bedroom, but I am not an expert. I don’t know what system is producing that. There’s a pipe that runs through that closet and the closet is in a room next to a bathroom. So, we had a plumber come out because we thought maybe it’s a sewage smell and the plumber said, “Well, I’ll fix the toilet because the toilet was not heated properly. So he did fix the toilet but he said, “I’m not allowed to look at anything else,” because the only thing I’m charging for is this toilet. And then he said, “I’ll look around,” and he went up and looked around. And he said, “There are no pipes that go through this closet.” It turns out in retrospect he was actually wrong because when the HVAC guy came out on our own dime he detects a pipe that was underneath the insulation. So, there’s a weird smell in the house.

We had the gas company out. They said it’s not gas. I don’t know where it’s coming from, but it is a gas-type smell. We thought maybe it’s a dead animal, but it doesn’t smell like a dead animal. It’s very distinct and it would decompose and go away eventually. But this has been an intermittent yet constant smell over the last couple of months. So, on our own dime, we’ve had another guy come out to do like an ozone generator thing. And that seems to have worked somewhat, but the ozone smell is interacting with the paint and the carpet liners to make even a weirder smell coming out of the carpet and the paint. So, that’s not been a really good solution either. We have a room in our house we cannot use because of the weird smell. It makes my wife nauseous.

I bought the home warranty to try to mitigate these issues, so it’d be really cool if I could talk to someone who would send multiple experts out to look at it and address the root issue. That’d be a deal. I don’t care if they rip the wall out, look in there with a snake camera. It’s frustrating from my perspective as a consumer because I’ve tried about four or five different things, and AHS is not responsive in a way that would be helpful to me. And there’s something like home restoration places that work on mold remediation. AHS could send somebody out or a team of people to assess it, figure it out, lock it down, cut a hole in the wall, detect, ground in there, and that would be awesome. Nevertheless, the service members who have come out have been extremely helpful, kind and nice, but they can only address the issue they’re allowed at best.

I'm a single woman and I wasn’t sure if it needed to be cleaned that time. I submitted the claim online and it was the easiest to me. I only called out three times and every time it's been really quick and everything worked out fine. Also the contractor was very polite, professional, and did their job really quickly and got it started right up for me. He definitely knew what he was doing. He was very explanatory and showed me how to change the filter.

It has been an ongoing persistent issue with the filter on the dryer, and the tech was very professional and he came in the backdoor because he didn't want to track through my house. He was very concerned about that. He went in, did his thing, he was in and out. It was a quick and easy fix.

The kitchen sink was clogged so I called American Home Shield up and they said, "We'll have a plumber you can contact." They contacted me and the plumbing company couldn't come out because something was wrong with one of their vans. And so it was going to be a couple of days. So I contacted plumbers in the area where I live because I can't live with a backed up kitchen sink with kids -- they just put everything in there.

I found one that could come out and I called the Home Warranty plumber back and I said, "Hey, I found somebody that can do the job." And they go, "Oh no, we have somebody that can come out." I go, "Well, in how long?" "He'll just be out there in 20 minutes." So I called the plumbing company back that I had scheduled and they showed up on time and they resolved the problem. They just had equipment failure and they got it fixed and they showed and did what they are supposed to do.

My kitchen cleanout was shallow and the technician didn't have anything to catch the water in the cleanout. But that's not his fault because he didn't know. So I loaned him a cookie sheet that he could catch all the water on so it wouldn't get on my kitchen cabinet. I would not say he's ill prepared but if he knew he's coming to something like that he should be prepared for it. But he was nice and friendly to me and the issue was resolved in a timely manner. I would recommend American Home Shield.

We had a problem with the air conditioning not cooling down the house. We filed a claim with American Home Shield and the technicians came out right away and fixed it. They were probably in and out in 20 minutes and everything worked great since then. So I'm very happy with them. The only thing that I didn't like with AHS was their wait time. It was an hour and a half, and that is way too long to be on hold. When you schedule online you get a couple of the ones that people have nightmares with. And sure enough, the same thing happened when I schedule online. I have to call and wait on line and that way I get the company I rather have. AHS needs to give you a choice of companies to pick from and have a star rating next to them. So that way you can actually pick someone that other people have liked, and for companies that have lower ratings to get their acts together so they'll get better ratings. But overall, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

He listened and went above and beyond on the call to try to determine the leak that was bothering me. Nick on the other hand just wanted to get out of here and go home at 5:00 in the afternoon. When the service call was done and the guys were getting in the truck and leaving, he said, “Because I signed that, I’m not liable for this problem for the next 60 days”. He also said that it's an old home and hearing things in the pipes was just a part of being a homeowner. I called them because I wanted to be able to sleep at night but I’m still hearing the noise.

When I went back to back in the house one Thursday night, our water heater blew out and was spewing water out of the tank. It apparently had a hole in the inner tank. I submitted a claim through the AHS website because it was about 10:30 that night. On Friday, a young guy came out and looked at it but couldn't get back to us until Tuesday because AHS had to order the tank. They couldn't repair the hole so they replaced the water heater. But everything went fine. The plumber did a great job and was very professional. He took care what he was doing and didn't make a mess. Overall, my experience was simple, easy and timely.

We requested a refrigerator fix on 11/8/17 using our AHS home warranty (it took us 2 calls - 1st we were on hold for over an hour and then got hung up on; 2nd call was answered after 49 minutes of wait time) and we were required to pay our $80 service charge at that time. The contracted servicing company by AHS was scheduled 7 days out as the earliest appt. The company fixing our fridge required us to sit at home and wait on them between 8am-5pm. They were to call us 30 minutes before coming. We received a call but could not answer immediately (due to a work call) and when we called back (15 minutes later). The company skipped us and said they would have to reschedule (earliest reschedule was 1 more week away). The company was rude and hung up on us. When we questioned them why they moved onto the next customer before our 30 min wait time was expired.

We called AHS and sat on hold once again for another hour for help. The AHS rep Told us the company that was contracted was the only refrigerator repair company in our area. (We live in Charlotte, NC - a large city - there should be more companies to service!!). We requested to cancel our contract and get a refund on the $80 we originally paid for the "No Show" company. The rep transferred us to the retention group - we sat on hold an additional 45 minutes. The retention rep said he was sorry, would refund our $80 and offered to send someone out to fix our fridge at no cost. That rep said he would use Sears and we were thrilled to get a larger company known for appliance repairs. We received a confirmation email the following day but did not receive confirmation of the scheduled appt time or date - just confirmation of our service call.

We tried to call 4 more times over a few days as we waited patiently but we're hung up on or sat on hold indefinitely a few times. Finally on Sunday, 11/26 we were able to reach a live person at AHS after 1 hang up (after 50 minutes of waiting) and an additional wait of 47 minutes. Whitney said she would schedule the appt on Monday because sears appt line wasn't able to schedule over the weekend. She said our $80 was not refunded because it was transferred to the new request with Sears. (This was suppose to be a no-charge fix!) She said she would send a request to the rep in retention to contact us about our refund but for now at least she could get the appt scheduled. She promised to call me back on Monday between 9am-9:30am but she did not return my call. I tried to call all day but each time I stayed on for at least 50 minutes and was disconnected without speaking to a human.

My husband reached a man last night by calling and selecting the sales option - that wait time was only about 20 mins as they thought they were gaining a new contract. We were transferred and then hung up on. Sat on hold a 2nd time (through sales line) asked to be transferred and waited 40 minutes - this time the man told us our service had been scheduled for 12/7 (almost 30 days after our first call was made). We quickly called Sears directly to validate and it was confirmed. All the trouble we had scheduling an appt and now my fridge is a complete block of ice in the back behind the panels. I have to use it because we have nothing else but I fear more damage has been done by all the waiting. We were also told we will not be reimbursed for any food loss if that happens.

AHS drafts my acct monthly so they are paid on time. They quickly took my $80 co-pay on 11/8 for service and held that money up. Yet they take my time and I lose working time sitting and waiting or tracking them down via Social Media to get their attention for a callback! Their staffing of call centers is ridiculous and sets up their employees for failure. The Voice over IP system either isn't working or they have set it up to intentionally frustrate people. The reps do not follow through with what they promise (callbacks, refunds, etc). I have other items that need fixing but don't feel like fooling with all the hassles. (Perhaps their strategy.)

Warn people before giving this company a good rating. All you need to do is lol on Twitter or Facebook - the complaints are all over the country and too numerous to count. This company was good about 3 years ago but something changed in a very bad way. Bottom line - poor customer service, no follow through, bad model with customer paying for service before work is completed or even scheduled, the negatives far outweigh the positives and we will be canceling our contract this year and advising others to do so before they are hurt. (We do not have a receipt as the company pulled funds virtually from our acct.)

This complaint is against AHS's contractor Active Appliances. They sent out a service technician to fix my leaking dishwasher and after taking it apart he verbally informed me that the motor was bad and that it needed to be replaced. He also told me that he would need to order the part and that someone would contact me in a few days. After a week I called AHS for the status and they informed me that the contractor reported that there was nothing wrong with my dishwasher and closed the issue. The technician basically lied to me about coming back to fix my dishwasher then reported that there was nothing wrong with my dishwasher. I went back to look at my copy of the work order and he had left it completely blank. He must have filled it out after I signed it. I called AHS and after waiting on hold for 30 minutes the line disconnected. I don't know what to do at this point but I DON'T WANT that contractor back in my house again.

We called American Home Shield for a leaking pipe claim. The plumbers fixed it but when they came back, they said that AHS was not going to cover the repair because it was a preexisting condition. The plumbers even said that the repair would be expensive. But when I pulled up my home inspection as well as the sewer inspection report, none of them mentioned that I have a preexisting condition. I called back AHS to bring it up but they said that they would take care and cover it. So I didn't even need to necessarily use the ammunition that I had gotten. There was some miscommunication and I don’t want to be cynical but it sounded like the contractors were going to have a large repair and are trying to find a way to side-step it.

The AHS website is good for setting up the claim. My initial contact with them was good and it's a really fast system. But when I had to call in for technical support during the claim, I had to be on hold for an hour because of the huge volume of calls they got. I also had to repeatedly call in to talk about an existing claim. In doing so, I had my phone on hold next to me and went about my day until I heard them pick up. So if there was a better way for the website to take care of customers with claims already in progress, it would be a fantastic improvement.

We got AHS less than a year and had called them for a couple of broken items. Already the problems started, as contractors had to come multiple times (often late) for same issue, and masked the problems rather than repair them. We have a broken fridge and after paying 2 deductible for NOT having it fixed properly, AHS wouldn't even pay for the total cost of replacing it. The last straw came when our water heater suddenly stopped working and started to flood the garage. Due to the urgency, and to our now lack-of-confidence with AHS, we called the contractor who initially installed the water heater. He came promptly and said the water heater had to be changed immediately since it was broken and the water had to be shut down until it was replaced.

While he was replacing the heater, I called AHS to tell them this couldn't wait, and my claim was completely denied since I had not gotten their approval first. We obviously had no time to wait for their contractor to show up for a subpar job. We basically lost money paying for AHS contract-premium-and now, about 2000$ for the water heater. Obviously, being insured with them didn't give us the peace of mind they promise.

Over 3-4 weeks ago American Home Shield sent a repairmen to my resident to repair my refrigerator. The repairman stated that it was unrepairable. I received one call and email reference to my issue to gather more information about the type of refrigerator and its features. This has been at least 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything else from them. They are not concern if I have a replacement or not. Every attempt to contact them by phone, results in at least a 30 minutes or longer wait time. This totally unsatisfactory and they just doesn't seem to care. Someone PLEASE assist me with this matter.

I have had AHS coverage continuously since buying my house in 2003. I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company. Over the years, AHS contractors have replaced my water heater, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. They have repaired my heat pump several times. They have repaired my refrigerator, washing machine, and oven. I have had plumbers come to the house to fix leaks (most recently a shower valve leak the day before Thanksgiving). My washing machine just died and I took the cash option in lieu of replacement. The contractors have always been reliable and professional and the appointments are scheduled very quickly. I would definitely recommend AHS. I have never had a single issue with AHS. When I have needed the service, they have consistently repaired or replaced items with no hassles at all.

American Home Shield has been very helpful and polite every time I've called. I have filed claims both online and over the phone and the waiting time to speak with somebody was reasonable. The contractors that have been sent out has been great. They're always polite and they always try to work out if there's an issue. Also, the customer service is always phenomenal. However, a couple of years ago, they sent a tech to fix something and it wasn't done properly so they gave me a $150 credit. I had a service done and when I called, their rep explained to me that I was supposed to alert them to let them know I had a credit so they wouldn't go in and charge which they did quickly.

Recently, I submitted a claim for my water heater. I had to get a new one because it was rusty and leaking and they explained everything but I was surprised that I had to pay for the permit. Right now, I've been waiting for three weeks for them to send me my $75 check worth of credits. It's strange how quickly they can take it out of your account but then it takes a long time to get it back but overall, American Home Shield has been very effective.

We had issues with the toilet and the oven in the last month, and the plumber and the appliance person sent by American Home Shield were very professional. I've always had American Home Shield so I talked my grown daughters into getting them. Up until two years ago, they were the premier home warranty company, but in the last two years, things have totally changed as far as the response time. It is difficult to get in touch with someone. You're always put on hold for at least an hour in order to talk to someone. They have professional people coming up but the response is very slow. So, if we had a true emergency or if I worked, it would be a difficulty. I wouldn't be able to cook or flush the toilet. And also, with the toilet situation, in order to have our toilet taken care of, they had to remove the toilet while they charged more because American Home Shield said they can't remove the toilet.

It's going well with American Home Shield. They're fine, but one problem that I have is if I have an emergency, the vendors takes so long to come out. My worst experience was when my toilet was backing up all over my house. That’s what I said when I called in, but the vendor couldn’t come out till five or six days later. I called back and asked if they had anybody else, but they didn’t. I had to pay a plumber to come out to my house and stop my toilet. When I got through with that, I forgot to cancel the appointment of the plumber from the vendor, and ended up paying $75. When I called back, the lady said because I didn’t use the word “emergency”, my claim wasn’t considered a rush.

The next incident that I had was pretty bad, when my hot water heater burst. A vendor couldn’t come out until four or five days later. I had to pay somebody to come in and do the hot water heater myself, because we didn’t have any water in the house plus the tank was reaching all over my house. I was pretty upset about that because I’m paying for a service that I’m really not receiving. With the last incident I called for, was my air condition was leaking, so somebody came out and did some work on the it and that’s fine. But, when I have an emergency, they're not there for it, and we ended up paying out of our pocket. Vendors should be able to come out sooner if it’s an emergency.

The microwave oven was broke and the previous owner gave a one-year free insurance with American Home Shield. We called them and after waiting a few weeks, they came over back to order parts and on fourth time we got it done. Everything works okay now. Their contractors were very nice. The only thing that was keeping me stunned is I paid $105 bill when they came twice. I'm going to send an email, I'll say I don't have balance but other than that I would recommend them.

A few days after we have moved in, I noticed that there was mold growing in our refrigerator and there was water leaking. I called AHS and had no problems filing my claim and it was very easy. Their rep was very pleasant and easy to talk to. We had a very great conversation and they handled everything. A man came in October and fixed it. He did the best job he could. It was hard to get the part though so we had to wait for it. Our fridge is working perfectly now. The repair really helped because we were having to keep our food in an ice chest.

Our second claim was for a rekey. Some of our keys were lost and when the technician came over here, the house was standing wide open. Rekeying was something that had to be done. The guy who did it was very professional and he definitely knew what he was doing. I've been with AHS since the day we bought our house in September and everything has been great. I would recommend them to a friend.

After we bought the house, we noticed that the valves that control the water going to the sink were old and leaking when we tried to turn them off. We had to have a plumber come out to replace them and so we phoned in American Home Shield. We filed it the day after we closed on the house, and I'm glad it was a simple process. In my experience, it took an hour to talk to them so that was not positive though. But once I got on the phone, it went fine. One question that I had that I was trying to nail down is the $75 copay per visit for the plumber, so that kind of rubbed me wrong. Also, I had to ask it about five different ways to get a straight answer, and that was the answer.

The contractor sent out was prompt and nice. He went above and beyond what he actually had to do, and he went ahead and replaced three that might have been leaking. He didn't have to do that but he did, so I was very appreciative. I also like that a contractor calls in less than 24 hours - ours took 12 hours which was really fast. We also filed a claim on some termites. I guess American Home Shield is owned by the same company that owns Terminix, so it was a little confusing when we had the termite guy come out as to who we pay, and the Terminix guy was a little unclear on that too. I felt like we were here on two different things from each place. We eventually got it all worked out, but that would be one improvement, as well as adding more people to the call center.

I've been in this house ever since I moved to Vegas 20 years ago. When our air conditioning stopped in the summer, I had my own serviceman from a different company come for it. He went up the roof and when he came back down, he said somebody was up on my roof and left the caps off so I lost all the air conditioning Freon. I had to have a new one and American Home Shield fought me to the nail as they didn't want to put a new one in there. So we were over $200, and the other $75 just to get a technician walk in, just to get it filled. If that air-conditioner goes out again, I want to have that thing covered as that can cost me $5,000 real quick.

Whether the technician does anything or not, he still got to get paid $75. Like when my microwave's handle broke within the last year, I had to pay them 'till they found the handle to put back on. And the same thing happened with our dryer that was making noise. It was 20 years old and probably in another six months, something else is going to happen to it, so I just bought a new one.

Recently, I tried calling American Home Shield for one day straight to submit a claim for my toilet for whenever I flush, it would make a whistling noise and then it gets loud. It was the inside that had to be changed. They kept on saying, "You're 10 minutes away." And by the time that time come by and nobody answered, I hung up and tried calling them again later on in the day. I started at about 8:30 in the morning and it went on right through to 9:00 at night and I was not happy with it. My wife got in touch with them the next day, and she said the girl she talked to was very nice and the person that came out was terrific. We've had problems with guys before that came out, but this last one was a really good guy. He fixed the toilet problem and I asked him some different questions about other things that I had plumbing-wise that I needed to have fixed and he gave me answers. I'm keeping AHS because they're a necessity.

We have a seven year old Samsung refrigerator. Two years after I got it, the warranty worn off of it. It started having problems. It will work a while but my food keeps getting spoiled. It's the same thing over and over and I'm losing a lot of money behind it.The manufacturer replaced the pods that appear to be defective. They keeps freezing up.

It's very difficult getting through AHS, and sometimes they keep you on there. Once they pick up the phone, they put you on hold and do not give you any response, and you have to wait because you're afraid that you're going to lose your space. I also don't like the new system they had set up. When the contractor came and I gave them the deposit for what's required for the service cost, they will give us the receipt. We don't get anything now.

When a company tries to improve something, they're supposed to improve it for the customer's benefit as well as for theirs. However, AHS will only be doing it for their sake. What I do is I document and use the computer to verify certain things, just like when I received a message from them telling me that the problem is corrected. It hasn't been. They are still supposed to be getting another pod in coming back, so I have to send a report saying, "No, I'm still waiting for the service to be completed."

I'm thinking about looking at another service provider. I come talking to them from out of town and they don't follow-up anything that I asked of them unless I called back and follow-up, and that's when they'll follow-up. I would not recommend them because I'm not satisfied with the service that I have been getting in previous years, and I've had them for a while.

I requested for an AC service with American Home Shield online, which was an easy process and the next day, they had somebody out here. The AC guy was on time and it took him very minimal time to fix it. And we're back up and running quickly.

I've had American Home Shield at two properties for at least five years and never had an issue. All their techs are professional, clean, and not tedious and they help us get a resolution quickly. And if I'd have an issue with a tech, I'd contact AHS, and they'd reroute it to someone else. I love their service. They move with a sense of urgency knowing that when you call, you have a problem and they're ready to resolve it. I can request service online, which is a plus. I can track and pay online and I can do it anywhere, and it makes my life a lot easier. If you own a home even if it's brand-new, you're going to have some problems at some point, so what I pay for our home warranty leave us a value. And they're dependable when we have a problem. We don't wait 10 days, and it's straightforward. Also, if they're going to cover the service, they'll tell you and they'll fix it. But if they're not, they'll ask for more information.

Our garage door wouldn't open or close anymore and for some reason, I went ahead and scheduled a regular garage door guy to come out myself, which I shouldn't have done. I didn't even think to do it through AHS. The guy came in and he told me what he thought was wrong. He said the motor was burned out and have to be replaced and was talking several hundred dollars. But when we called AHS, they had somebody come out in a couple of days and the guy had a completely different diagnosis of the problem. He was also able to actually fix the existing motor. In a matter of half an hour, it was up and done. It was a much better result and I never had to have a technician come back out. It all worked fine once they fixed it.

Overall, my experience with AHS has been much more positive than I anticipated. I've never had anything like it before. But the Realtor, when I bought the house, paid for the first year. And I've been renewing it since then because it has really worked well. This house was built in '92 so it's 25 years old and things here and there are starting to fail. I've become a believer in AHS.

One of my rooms stopped having electricity then another light fixture in the house wouldn’t work. When I filed a claim, the AHS site was good but then they directed me to call. The representative was very helpful and I was very pleased with her. The only thing was I had to talk to her three times. The process was kind of silly in that you submit your claim but then you still have to call. It would have been nice if I didn’t have to do the six-step process. But other than that, the company they referred us to seemed to be a good company.

There were three different people that saw the problem and I even had one person who may not have known what he was talking about. Three electricians saw the same problem but they gave me the same answer. It was unfixable unless I rewired the entire valve. I assumed the reason why the electricity didn’t work in the hallway was because the valve was burnt out. So a new fixture was bought and a valve was put in it. But there was no electricity at all to the fixture. That was the piece the electricians could not repair. Evidently, at some point in the history of the home, the owners had stolen electricity so there was no fix to it.

I had three different workmen and they finally resolved one problem in one area and were able to restore some power to it to the best of their ability. But several others, they were not able to fix. According to the workmen, the work prior to my moving in was not done to code, therefore, they weren't responsible and I would have to deal with it. But for the work that they were allowed to do, they were polite, reasonable and professional.

They arrived within the window for the most part of time that was scheduled. The second time, I was a little annoyed though as there was an emergency that took precedence over me. The person who was supposed to have four hours to do all these projects was called to put in an air conditioner and I got someone who was just kind of a band-aid. The process should've been completed the second time but the guy did very little because there was no longer enough time as it was late in the day. Then a couple of weeks later, I got someone that did the repair. It was a bit annoying since I had to hang out three Saturdays. My experience was good and the things they could repair are working fine. I would recommend AHS.

However, I decided to cancel my most recent claim for an HVAC because they referred it to a company who couldn’t get here for 48 hours. So, I asked them if they could please refer it to a different company, and they said that 48 hours was sufficient. And then, they told me, “Well, it’s not freezing in your area.” So, if I’m not freezing to death, they don’t care? It was 27 degrees at night that got up to 55 during the day. So, it can be really uncomfortable.

I ended up getting another HVAC company to come out here later that day out of my own dime, and they were able to get it fixed. I do not wish to renew with AHS this January. And if anybody asks, I will tell them about my experience. Plus, submitting claims over the phone is completely unacceptable because you’ll be on hold for 30 minutes to an hour.

I've used multiple companies sent by American Home Shield in the past with my rental property and with my own personal residence, and I'm very happy so far. I had a few different things that were going on with my plumbing, and a company called Just Plumbing came out. The tech was able to fix everything expeditiously, did a good job and seemed to really know stuff, so I was very happy with him. Before that, we had somebody come out to do a dishwasher repair as well as a refrigerator and ice maker repair, and they were fantastic as well.

The hardest thing that I've had to deal with is when I didn't want to go online to do my claim. If I wanted to physically call somebody, I had to wait anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour before to get somebody on the telephone. Sometimes, I like talking to somebody versus doing it online because I know what I'm saying and I know I'm going to ask a few questions here and there. I don't feel like I can do that when I'm doing something online. But my biggest problem's been if I had a claim ticket where I can avoid having to pay multiple hundred dollar deductibles. If I have two different things to fix, I don't know that I can necessarily get online and make appointments to set up two separate things. Other than that, everything else has been seamless. AHS seems to be responsive once you get them on the phone and set up the appointments. Everything seems to move quick and efficient and they're on time, and all that have been great.

My fan would not shut off at all which caused a heating problem. I submitted a claim on the phone because they usually use somebody named Greenway and I've had very, very bad experience with them and so has my sister. So, I cannot allow Greenway to come to my home. The guy they sent was wonderful. He was in and out, and he knew what he was talking about. They ordered the part, came back and fixed the problem, and everything was on-time. Everything was just as he said. He showed me the part that was burnt out and everything's been working perfectly since then.

Their reps were supposed to have marked my file a long time ago that I would not use Greenway. They were nice but a little bit argumentative about it. AHS wanted to send Greenway and I just don't like them in my house, because I had them come out a while back because there was something wrong with my air-conditioner. They came out and they said nothing's wrong. They finally sent the supervisor. The supervisor walked in and said, "You're not going to get a new air-conditioner." And I said, "I've never even asked for a new air-conditioner. I just want this fixed. And there's nothing blowing out right now."

The supervisor didn't bring a ladder. He knew it was up on the unit. He laid down on my floor because one of my registers is in my cabinet. He laid there for 15 minutes waiting for everything to stabilize. Then he got up and said, "Go outside and see if it's still running." I did. I went outside and I came back in. And he was at another register and he said, "It registered just fine." But I never did see where it was registered properly. I told him, "Be sure to put it on there that you didn't bring a ladder. That you didn't check the unit up above." And he said, "Yeah, I'll do that. Will you check again and see if it's running?" I went out, checked again, it was running. I went back in the door, almost knocked him over and he was leaving. I came in my kitchen and he has written on it, a form, "No Defect." And he hadn't even checked out everything.

So I had to actually contact one of the representatives with American Home Shield to get something done. And then as it turns out, there was something wrong. There was a hole in my coil and it was leaking. And all of my Freon was used up and I used that the whole time without Freon. I asked them again to mark their records about Greenway. They said they would but I don't know if they did or not. I haven't used my air-conditioner. It was already working from the last time it was repaired. They sent somebody other than Greenway out and repaired it and it was working fine after that. But that was a year ago when it happened.

I want to make sure that the guy who was out here this last time came from Antioch, Tennessee. He was very professional. He and the people on the phone were wonderful. I just want to make sure that AHS knew that Greenway was the problem and not this other person who came recently because he really did such a marvelous job.

The blower fan for my heating system, which is a heat pump, failed. In order for the heater to work, the fan’s gotta blow hot or cold air through my house. I happened to be in the basement and I heard a noise which sounded like the motor shorted. I called American Home Shield and a guy came out and said the fan motor was broken so he removed it and then four days later, they brought it back and the owner of the contractor company came back to install it. Right after that, it was working but it was still an air conditioning.

Then a day later, they needed to put on heaters. It got cold overnight so I put on the heat and it was not working. I called and asked the wife of the owner of the company that came out to service it if there was any possibility that they miswired the motor. She said, “Absolutely not.” I said, “All right. I'm gonna call it in” I called AHS. The woman’s son came out and found out what had happened when they were installing or removing the motor. They pulled the wire connector off the thing that allows it to heat up. Once he saw that, he put it back on and everything worked properly.

Now it’s working perfectly. I called the contractor company again and the woman answered the phone. She said, “Oh, that’s our responsibility. It’s our fault and we’re gonna make it good. I’m canceling your service call.” Once she said that I knew I had somebody forthright. The son was terrific and the father was good the first time. I ended up signing a contract with them for service.

The only other time I ever called in a service from AHS was when I had a water heater installed. It was a gas water heater that was very difficult to get. I had it installed and then it wasn't working right. It kept going on and off so I called AHS. The guy came out and he said they didn’t install this properly. But I paid the service charge for that guy to come out and he didn’t do anything. They came out again a day later and fixed whatever the problem was and I paid for that too. Other than that, my overall experience with AHS was fantastic.

My toilet was leaking from the tank so I called American Home Shield. The call with the claims rep was quick and I was able to pick when I wanted the repairman to come out. The rep sent out a referral to a local vendor who came to our home. The repair was minor that they were in and out and it was fixed really quickly in the first round. AHS sent me a text to let me know when the repairman was arriving and I was able to track their travel to my house so I knew to the second when they were arriving. That was really great and one of my favorite part of the experience. The whole process was straightforward and satisfactory.

The air conditioner just stopped working. The condensing unit wouldn't shut off. And the man American Home Shield sent found a leak. They had to put in some Freon. And then about a week later he had written down that it probably is going to need a new condenser at some point. But it started running again outside. One day my husband was out there and it wouldn't shut off. So he came back and he found another part that was rusting away or something. He fixed that and it's doing good. We really liked the young man that worked on it.

And as far as I can remember they have always been good. But we had one person back in our last house who wanted to do way more work than what was actually needed. And he was going to charge us extra or something and it never needed to be done. But other than that we've had good experiences.

I just really like having American Home Shield. I feel like it's a necessity especially if you've got things that just might break someday.

My shower was leaking from the shower head and my sink was leaking underneath the sink. And then, I had a leak in the garage ceiling that I believe was coming from the upstairs bathroom. So we had three leaks and I submitted my claim online to American Home Shield then I spoke to their representative and they took care of my question. Apparently, there's a difference between a shower head and a shower panel. And a shower panel isn't covered by American Home Shield. So, that didn’t get fixed.

Also, they didn’t see any water coming from the garage portion of it and he couldn’t make any water leak under the sink. However, the whole bottom of the sink is sunk in and smells like mildew. So nothing got repaired. They just patched up the hole that they cut in the garage, but they said I have 30 days to have them come back and check it again. So, I'm just waiting for a good time to have them come back.

American Home Shield has a great system, but a lot of things don't actually get covered. It just seems clean as day to me that a shower head and a shower panel all where water comes from should be covered. But I didn’t make the rules and I didn’t go in and read the super fine print, but it seems pretty self-explanatory to me. But apparently you have to read the fine print.

I've had American Home Shield since we bought our house seven years ago. They've always been very helpful and my experience with them has been always very good. I previously had two other claims. One was for the water heater that died. They sent us a check and we got a different type of water heater. Prior to that, the washing machine died. And they came out and they replaced something with it. For this recent claim, I did it online on a Sunday because that's when we got back and within an hour, the contractor was calling me and setting up an appointment to come out the next day. They took care of it right away and it's working perfectly after they fixed the AC. We were really pleased with them.

The air-conditioner went out the weekend we closed on the house and I called my realtor to find out because we didn’t know any information about what warranty we had and she didn’t call me back until Monday. So we just called somebody locally and had them fix it. It was right in the middle of Harvey too so I sent American Home Shield a letter hoping we would be reimbursed. Everybody was closed and given that extenuating circumstances maybe they would honor it but they wouldn’t. So we paid for that and then we had a refrigerator ice-maker that they came out to fix. And by that time things went fine.

I submitted the claim online and it was easy. The contractors were coming from quite far away but they worked with us and they were there on time and set up the appointment so that we could make sure we were there. They were really easy to work with. They looked at it and they had to come back until they get the part and finish fixing it. And when a part came in we just scheduled it. The contractors were good. AHS works as having the set amount on the deductible each month and that went it for a year. Everything’s fixed.

I had a pipe leak and it probably has been going on for a while because it had soaked the ceiling tile downstairs. The basement is semi-finished and there's concrete floors down there so the living area is upstairs. If I didn't go down in that room I wouldn't have known there was a problem. So I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and the contractor they sent were good people.

They came out with two guys, told me what work they were going to do, did the work and told me that if I have any problems to let them know. And I didn't have any problems. They were great. I asked them not to leave the door open because there was a cat and they respected the house rules. Since the repair the pipe is not leaking anymore. And this isn't the first call I've had with them. I've had a claim with my water heater before and I've saved $1200 because of them.

AHS seems to do really well. When I first got the contract, which I got when I bought the house, I was like, "Oh, man. This could go either way. It could be bad, it could be good." But the things that are outlined as covered seem to be easily covered. I don't pay for it so I can't say, I get what I pay for. But I got what the previous owner paid for, for sure. I'll probably renew it myself when it comes time. Warranty service, first and foremost, is avoidance of fixing things. It's not insurance but AHS works more like insurance than a warranty and I like that.

Since the repair everything seems to be working fine. I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to two people that I know and they’re already getting ready to acquire the services.

I called with an issue on Monday before Thanksgiving. A plumber could not call me back until Friday after Thanksgiving but they came out and try to fix the problem on Saturday. After he fix the water pressure valve he took off and I went to turn on the sink and water was barely flowing out of it. I had to call him back and He adjusted the valve and I had perfect water pressure. I left for an early dinner. After that came home. Someone tried to use the faucets upstairs to take a shower and the pipe started rattling so bad in the house I thought they would burst or come through a wall. So I tried calling the plumbing company again. They were closed for the night. No answer machine. I called Sunday. Again no one was working. No answer machine so I called American Shield back. They called and told him when I talk to them. After being on hold for one whole hour they told me that they would contact another company and they would call me within 2 hours.

After 3 hours I call back American Shield again and after being on hold again for another hour they told me that they will get in contact with me as soon as possible so they could contact me. Now it's Monday. The 2nd plumbing company came out and looked at the issue and they said that they put the water pressure valve in wrong. They called American Shield and was told that they cannot touch the job. They will send out the original company. I called the original company and was told that they cannot come out now until Tuesday to fix this issue.

I called American Shield now clearly upset for good reasons to tell them my problem and they said that there's nothing they could do and I asked for a supervisor to talk to a supervisor. They said they had no supervisors in at the time. I'm now sitting here waiting for the plumber Tuesday. The bottom line is American Shield does not stand behind what they say they could do. They give you the runaround. Their wait time while when you call in is terrible. An hour to wait to talk to someone is way too long. And then they say they have no power over anybody or any company to come out and finish the job that they screwed up to begin with. It sounds like that American Shield does not have companies for emergency situations at all. So in my opinion this is overpriced, overhyped and I will never sign another contract with American Shield again.

I filed my claim online on Monday, June 26. I called AHS on Wednesday June 28 (waited 40 minutes to speak with someone) to ask why I hadn’t heard anything. They said they never got the claim. I filed the claim on the phone (explained that I have a Samsung refrigerator that is leaking) there and then on the phone. They assigned a company to fix the problem. The company called me and asked what the problem was. I explained I have a Samsung refrigerator that is leaking. They said that they do not work on Samsungs. (Of course, I’m wondering why AHS would assign a company that does not work on Samsungs to fix my Samsung).

I called back (and waited another 40 minutes to speak with someone) and was told that AHS would have to actually verify that the company did not work on Samsungs (why would they want to take the word of a customer of 13 years) and that she would call me back that night. Guess what happened? You are right. I never heard back from her or anyone else at AHS. I called again Friday, June 30. This time waited 20 minutes to speak with someone. That someone answered the phone and said that her computer was not working and that I would have to call back. I asked her to transfer me to someone whose computer was working (so I wouldn’t have to wait another 40 minutes). She said that she couldn’t. So I called back, again. This time I waited only 10 minutes (that was refreshing). They asked me what I was calling about.

I asked them if they were kidding. They said that they were not. I then asked who was coming to my house to fix my refrigerator as it had been almost a week and no one is even assigned to fix the fridge yet. What’s worse is that I am doing all the work following up to get that done. If I didn’t, my fridge would never get fixed. The representative I spoke with on Friday, June 30 called and verified that the company I spoke with days ago indeed did not work on Samsung refrigerators. So they assigned another company.

I did not hear anything from the other company on Friday June 30, or Saturday July 1, or Sunday July 2 or Monday July 3 or Tuesday July 4 or Wednesday July 5. Finally, I called them on Wed, July 5 at 11 am and they said that they would come out tomorrow. I asked why I hadn’t heard anything and was told that they only worked half days on Fridays and only worked half a day on Monday. I Googled them. Nothing is returning on either the company or the phone number. (That is another problem we have with AHS. They send jackleg people to your house in panel vans and trucks with no signage (same problem with a water heater claim). The people AHS has sent to our home to fix problems over the years are usually unprofessional, sleazy, have terrible reviews on the internet and often times are trying to sell you something that is not included in the warranty contract.)

Every time we call AHS we wait a ridiculous amount of time to speak to someone. We’re told to file claims online because it saves time. When we tried to file this claim online, AHS claims they never got it. The service we have had with AHS has been horrific. I can honestly say that I have never had worst customer service than with AHS. They deny claims that should be covered, they don’t have enough people to answer their phones (the ones that they do have are rude and unprofessional), when they do actually agree to pay a claim, the people they send to the house are indescribable and have terrible histories, track records and internet reviews. We are pretty sure that we have had a problem with nearly every claim that we have filed with AHS. Every one.

On about a third of our claims, we have actually had to call out another repairman to fix what the AHS guy screws up. We have complained about most problems we have had with AHS and the solution is usually to put us through to one of your folks and comp me the next month of payment. Now things have gotten so bad there that they require you to agree to stay with them for 6 months after they comp you a month. It just keeps getting worse and worse. No one ever tries to fix AHS's problems. And they have a ton of problems. BEWARE!

So I had to pay my deductible of $100 and then they call me saying that it required additional work and would cost another $150. I don't understand how AHS can send me an email today saying they completed their portion. How is that possible if the leak is still present? And to charge me $100 for 5-10 minutes and still have a leak is ridiculous. Very disappointed in the service.

After I had placed my "negative" review on this site for AHS, dated 11/27/17, Mariah from AHS reached out to me regarding the review. She wanted more information which I provided. I told her about the tech, who lied about my having clothes in the washer when he came out. I told her that when we moved the washer, after purchasing another one, that there was a leak, which the tech did not tell me about. Mariah wanted a copy of the receipt for the washer, which I sent to her. She told me that she would research the situation.

To my surprise, she came back and told me they were going to pay for the replacement washer. I received the check yesterday! I am very happy that AHS stood by their contract. Although, it was extremely frustrating, AHS did the right thing. However, I did cancel my contract when my original claim was denied and I do not have any intentions of going back to AHS or any other warranty/service contract company. I have started to put the money, I would have paid to them, in a separate savings account. Overall, I am satisfied with AHS that they did the right thing.

    Original Review: Nov. 27, 2017

I requested service on their website. I followed up with the company the next day. They sent someone out the following day. Please note, I could not find the company they sent on the internet! The technician came and took pictures and when he was done, he showed me the pics and stated the motor was done and the wires were fried. He told me that the machine had been overloaded or there was a power surge. I told him that this was the second Bosch wash machine I had and that I know how to load the machine. We did not have any power surges. I called today to find out the status of our claim and they denied it due to "abuse" and "overload" of the machine.

He said nothing about the bearing, which will permanently damage the motor and wires. He submitted his pictures and they denied the claim. I asked about an independent second opinion and they said they wires. Also, the voice mail I received from AHS stated that the tech informed them that "upon arrival he saw that I had overfilled my washer". I didn't have any clothes in my washer when he arrived. He lied! He submitted his pictures and they denied the claim. I asked about an independent second opinion and they said they don't do that. I would have to use one of their technicians. I told them I was not feeling good about that because how would I know AHS would not tell the technician the reason why it was denied.

I told them that they should allow me to have my technician come in and look at my washer, that was it would be totally "objective". I could not do that unless I wanted to pay for the service call. The first technician stated that it would cost over $500 to have it fixed. I told them I didn't want to do that. I asked to cancel my warranty and they transferred me and I waited on hold for 30 more minutes! When I spoke to the person, she said she would cancel my warranty and she hung up! I called again, waited on hold for another 30 minutes and this time the rep told me he would sent a form over to retention to have it cancelled. He said that they would contact me within 24 hrs.

Needless to say, I am not happy about the decision. I think, this is only my opinion, that their "network" technicians know what will deny a claim. As the technician told me, it was either a power surge or overload. As I found out, both causes would be denied. I will not repair the washer. I will go out and buy another one! I will also set aside money to have the repairs done on my own and not worry about a home warranty company. I think they find reasons not to pay out. I called to have my warranty canceled effective immediately and AHS told that I would be RESPONSIBLE for an administration fee equal to one's month payment --- I told him, they are being denied!

Update*** So, we have purchased a new washer. As we were taking out the old one... you know the one that AHS denied the claim and stated that I overfilled the washer. My husband took the back off of the washer and noticed that there was a leak. There was residue from my detergent. The tech never mentioned this to me. According to the internet, a leak could cause damage to the machine and the wiring. (An electrical burning smell may also be caused by a water leak coming into contact with electrical wiring. Both are major concerns and should be addressed immediately. A water leak can cause structural damage in your home and can short out the electrical wiring in your washer and cause additional damage to the machine.)

I did have a burning smell for a while before the machine stopped spinning. I should have called at that time, however I suspect the outcome would have been the same. I am still not over the fact that the tech lied about my having clothes in the washer when he came out. And not I am disgusted that the tech did not mention to me about the leak. Really, I am not a repair person, but water and wires... I think that would have set off red flags. The very BEST advice that I could tell someone is to STAY AS FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE from this company. They are a rip off!

I called during the day but I kept getting, "Tomorrow", "Next day", "I’m not working today", etc. It took them four days to send out somebody. Their technician was doing a really good before but he seemed preoccupied the last few times. I guess it was a lot of personal problems he was having. But I haven’t got a problem since the gentleman repaired my AC.

American Home Shield is a great company, but it takes too long to respond to a repair. If you want something done, it shouldn’t take three days because it's too long. There are companies that I’m checking into that takes 24 hours. If your hot water heater is leaking or if your AC is not working, or your range is not working, you don’t want to wait three days or three weeks to get a compressor in but that's what they've been taking me through. I’m looking around now for somebody else, but it takes time. Nonetheless, the rates are okay though not outrageous. Overall my experience has been good and I would recommend them.

We've had American Home Shield for 18 years and my kids kept telling me to get rid of them. But I figured that if my husband thought it was good enough to keep then I would. So far, some of the people who came out had questionable professionalism and they didn't ever let me know of what they were doing. I've had some good ones though who were nice. There was one bad condition in September 2016 with the air conditioning people. Someone was supposed to come out for my air conditioner but they never showed up. I had to go get my son's air conditioning people to come fix the problem and I had to pay a lot of money.

I have two issues too. One, I have a pressure valve that had gone bad. GOS plumbing came and put in new valves on some new heaters I had. That was supposed to take care of everything and they put a pressure of 70 which supposedly was the average and it was fine. But I was gone for two weeks and when I came back, I've had problems with the pressure. There is a lot of air in the lines and there's popping when I flush one of the toilets. When I turn on the water, it seems fine but it's just dripping.

I've been trying to get a technician out here for about a week or so. I stayed all day yesterday, thinking they were coming, but they never did. The biggest issue I have is I can't get them out to either call me and say they're coming and set a time. They just call you and you never know when they're coming then nobody shows up. And you end up wasting your whole day waiting. I've had to call them several times. I was told a technician was coming out today but he should have called me this morning and should have given me an idea.

The other problem is with my refrigerator. They came out and checked it to see if they could fix it. They couldn't so I'm supposed to get a new refrigerator. They sent me an email that said I can either choose a fridge comparable to the one I have or I can get $1600 to buy my own. I've not dealt with that though because I left town and I've been gone for two weeks. But I want someone to help me with that. I get so much advertisement in the email that I can't find the email they sent. When I called about the fridge, I was told it was going to be an hour wait so I hung up. I was told to go online but haven't had the chance to do so yet. I don't like not having anybody to talk to. When I try to call, I get a recording. I'm not that great with computers so it's nice to be able to have a number where I can call and talk to somebody. I'm not satisfied with my experience and AHS needs to improve.

I have had one of those yearly maintenance that checks the furnace and they had come up with all kinds of things claiming that it wasn’t efficient. So I called American Home Shield to come and check and repair whatever needed to be repaired. And then somebody came to look at the furnace. We showed him what was the deal and he said there was nothing wrong with the system. It was working fine and it was just old. The contractor was on time and they accommodated my wish to get in there early. They’ve given me a two hour window but they were there fairly early.

When the gentleman was leaving, I wanted to pay but he said nothing was due and now, I've been getting all these messages from American Home Shield saying that I owe $75 which is the service charge. I don't know whether they’ve changed the system that it used to be that we pay the person or company who comes. So if there's something changed, they need to communicate that because I didn’t know and I thought it was strange when the gentleman said there was nothing due. And then now, they're hounding me on email.

I dealt with the person for the stove and he was very professional and very nice. The experience was really great. After I entered the claim online, I got a notice via email. And then, the following day, I got a call from the service company to set a schedule within two to three working days. AHS is worth the value and helps you save. I'd tell others to definitely get it. AHS was given to us by the previous homeowner that we bought the house from but it expires within a year. So, my partner and I are thinking about renewing it afterward and see if we can get a good deal on it.

The chain on the ceiling fan in the master bedroom broke and I submitted a claim online. The tech that was sent out found nothing wrong with the dishwasher and he thought maybe I have overloaded it. Thinking back, I may have done that, but the arm had caught a card and he said if it did that, it went straight to the door and eventually have water to come out any day. So I was thinking that maybe that's what happened because there wasn’t anything wrong with the dishwasher. I've been with American Home Shield for years and they have been out several times. I loved American Home Shield so much I also bought my mom and stepdad the policy. I told them that if something breaks down, American Home Shield will come fix it and they don't need to worry about it. And then when I got it, they have a septic tank. The rep asked me if I wanted to add the $40 extra deal to cover the septic tank. He said it’s only good for the first one year and the first-time buyer, so I told him to add it on. Lo and behold, they have a septic problem, and my mom calls in, and they told her she’s not covered. They had to get it fixed, so it cost them $700.

So I got to the bottom of it, and American Home Shield said they didn’t add that coverage to my plan. But one of the main supervisors said they'll go back to the recording and if I agreed to add it then they will have to honor it and I'll get reimbursed. This started in June and every time I call in I always get told that somebody will call me back. And then a couple of weeks go by and I call back, and I deal with the same things. I have to repeat my story every time. They do document every single thing that was done or said and who got email, but for some reason the supervisors just blow me off like I don't matter. And I've been nice to everybody that I've talked to.

I've used them a couple of times over the years and it has worked out really good. When my hot water went out, I called American Home Shield and somebody came out in a couple of days and they replaced it. That part was excellent. But I'm paying them for two policies which is $1000 a year and I'm still waiting if they are going to do the right thing or not for my mom.

We have been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years. They have very good service before. However, we didn't have very good experience with our plumbing claim. Sometimes, it seems the left of American Home Shield does not know what the right hand is doing. We normally don't even use them for months and months, and years and years. So, the need came up. We have a rental and I was made to understand that the problem came from the septic tank. AHS gave us a company and the company said, "No, we don't do work for American Home Shield". The plumbing company wasted my time in contacting them for hours and they said that they don't do the pumping. They could not find a single company there to do septic tank pumping. And nobody wanted to work with them. That was a very frustrating experience.

Now, we are paying from our own pocket, and their rep Shirley who was in the customer retentions unit apologized and said, "I will take care of this". She gave me an email address but they never responded to email nor a phone call. They should at least tell us what's the next thing. When the company is backing out of the customer, AHS should force them so that it has to be done or they can file a lawsuit. I have still not sorted it out with AHS. If they don't cover it, I want the $100 we paid in the bank refunded as well as the $30 we paid for the additional septic tank. They should not keep that either since it's not resolved. I am very, very upset about this. They haven't resolved, they don't return the calls, and they've given me a special email, but nothing after that.

We have them in California and we asked for the plumbing guy for a broken knob in the toilet unit, the thing that flushes the toilet. The Amazing Plumbing Service was absolutely unprofessional. We have had very good experience before, so we don't think that it's all just like this, but this part of the company is very unhelpful and very unfriendly. What they did was not very nice. We have a very expensive toilet, so I bought the proper knob. The AHS rep asked me one dozen questions and then she told me, "Yes, this is covered". And when this guy from the plumbing service comes to me, he said, "No. I have to check with American Home Shield." This is one other unresolved with them. They told me, it is not covered because it is outside the house, but it is attached to the house. So, we were not very happy. It was absolutely horrendous. I almost thought about switching to some other company and I have not given up that thought yet.

My dryer wasn't getting hot enough and had several different people come out. The first guy said it's upstairs and it vents to the outside. He told us to clean the vent, and sure enough, there was a dead bird in there. But he couldn't do that, so he left it at that. And then with the second guy, we ended up having some sort of controller replaced. But it still wasn't right and it seemed like there's another one in there too. Then the last guy figured out what the problem was and it was funny because he ordered the parts which was wrong, but when he opened it up and saw what was going on, he ended up doing the right thing. We finally got results on that.

Everything else has been great. We've had other calls and they fixed everything like when I had someone out for the oven. We thought the oven had died but it was just a lever that needed to be pushed which my house cleaner must have pushed when she was cleaning the inside. Nobody would come out because of the brand. It went on and on, but the American Home Shield ladies were more than helpful and kept working on it to figure things out. Another one was when my microwave died and they replaced it which was worth $2600. I've been with American Home Shield for more than two years and I'm really happy with them. I only opened one support request with American Home Shield and it is still open at this point in time. Three weeks ago my dryer was not drying adequately. They came out for the third time this morning. The same company replaced a couple of different parts. I prefered to just call and speak to a person before when submitting a claim but with this claim I called in twice and both times the wait times were horrendous and I ended up just opening up a request online.

So if there's any one thing that I would comment on is the fact that it's impossible to get hold of them over the phone. And my calls have not been on a Monday when I can understand that they're busy. I've called different days of the week, different times and it's like they still have long hold times. So either they need to increase on number of people on answering the phones or totally do away with the phone service. But I'm only working with one contractor now and they've all been very professional, easy to contact and keep in touch with on that ongoing issue. I've also had American Home Shield before and they've been good.

We submitted a claim online to American Home Shield for a problem with our pool pump. A pool company came out and they said that it wasn’t the pool pump and that there was something wrong with electricity. We called back AHS and they sent out someone to come and look at the electricity. The electricity guy came out. He was supposed to call me 20 minutes before he got to my house but he didn’t call me, didn’t call my phone, didn’t call my work number and came and left. So, they sent out another electric company because I said I didn’t want to deal with those guys anymore. The second company said the problem could be a circuit breaker because there's nothing wrong with the electricity. I have plenty of electricity.

I called AHS back and I said, “I don’t want to deal with the first pool company anymore either because they don’t know what they're doing.” So, they sent out another pool company and those guys fixed the problem. Once they got a pool pump up, they said, “Oh, your heater is not working either.” So then, they came back and fixed the heater. I was very happy with the pool company. Everything was working and then we closed the pool. AHS charged $100 for the pump and then $100 for the heater. I would tell a friend that AHS is great. They have good response time but some of their contractors aren’t that good. They have to do a quick Yelp search to get the name of the contractor and see if they have any reviews and then use their best judgment. If they don’t want that company, they could call back and request another company.

It wasn't until after we had everything done and moved in that we found out it wasn't working. It was a long wait to submit a claim over the phone, but it was very easy to go through the website and put down what it was I needed to have checked. The website was also very user-friendly. They sent a rep to check out and troubleshoot the original cause. When they determined that the whole system would be better replaced, they had the person meet with me and talked about the system. We made an appointment and a company called Greenway showed up, then it was done in a few hours. It's nice to know that our AC is brand-new. It's got a good warranty on it for parts and labor 'cause it's from Trane. It's a nice system. They hooked it all up and it runs great.

I had to call a couple of weeks ago because I kept getting an email about owing $75, but I had already paid that. When they initially came out, I had to pay a $75 charge. Then, the same place came back again to put in the new AC system. I was wondering why they were trying to charge me twice, but with Home Shield, that was supposed to be a one-time $75 charge. I don't know if it was just something that was delayed, and I haven't received an email so I assume that was taken care of. I would highly recommend American Home Shield overall, especially on buying a home. The people there are very helpful, professional and they will take care of whatever issue it is you have. When I got home I checked on what they claimed they had repaired which was a faucet in my backyard and I saw that they made two holes in my master bedroom closet to get to that pipe. The faucet turned 360 degrees so it was not fixed, just temporarily repaired. I called American Home Shield back to complain about this they told me that the contractors told them that they repaired everything. I also told them that they have to come back and fix the toilet that they forgot to fix. I also put that on the repair order but they didn't fix it at the time.

The contractor came back the second day to repair the toilet and my husband also told them about the faucet that they claimed that they repaired. The plumber told my husband that it was temporarily repaired and it would be $300 to fix it the correct way so my husband told them that they never told us that yesterday. I had to call American Home Shield back to complain again. I told them that I didn't want that contractor back in my home, that I wanted a second opinion and I needed another contracting company to come out.

They sent another plumber out from another company and that plumber told my husband that the faucet wasn't repaired correctly and that it was a temporary fix and that they must get back with us on how the repairs were going to proceed from there. We've stayed with American Home Shield a long time because they seem to be extremely reliable. I'm not entirely sure how they get a vendor listed but most of the people that we called tend to come from farther away but that's kind of common. Other than that, I have really good experience. I paid American Home Shield online and the company didn't try to collect the $75. So, all that seems to be going fine.

I had an issue relating to my side-by-side refrigerator freezer. I called American Home Shield and they connected me with the company, which moved relatively quickly. Once AHS passed it off to the actual repair company, their main objective is to intervene if there's an issue which it ended up not being an issue. My claim was for a microwave and a refrigerator and something with the microwave part took a long time, so the refrigerator remained unrepaired. I think they could repair the refrigerator and then come back and repair the microwave but I'm sure they don't want to lose all the money on the trip charge. The biggest inconvenience was not being able to microwave and we're staying with the house full of kids so that was frustrating. But once it all got fixed, it all seems to be working just fine.

The contractor that came out was a friendly serviceman and I had bought a new showerhead and he put it on for me. Since the repair of the showerhead, I’ve had no problem. I would tell a friend that American Home Shield was good and that I was satisfied.

The water heater just stopped working over a month ago, and we called American Home Shield and the reps were very helpful. They took the request and submitted it, but it was a very long wait. The contractor they sent out was someone I've worked with when we had some issues many years ago and it was a very positive experience. We had someone come initially and they tried to fix the igniter, but that didn’t work. I had to light it up every time, so if we needed water I had to go down and ignite and then wait. Sometimes it would heat up, but sometimes it wouldn’t so it was a very big pain.

The people came back and said there was a leakage and they needed to change the entire unit. And I've had no issues since then. But there were a few things that American Home Shield didn’t cover that the contractor put in so we had to shell out $500, which is a lot given that we take the annual insurance. The service is great, but the coverage can do better and we shouldn’t have to pay out of our pocket as much.

We've had a fabulous experience with American Home Shield. Something in the air conditioner was sort of blocking something and it was stuck up there on the roof. I called AHS and got a rep who was very clear and helpful. The contractor was a local company that they had authorized. The technician couldn't have been better. He went up the roof and cleaned out that little part that was stuck and he said it was working fine after that. We then changed the filter inside and it was fine. They hardly charged anything to do it too. Everything worked perfectly afterward. We sold our home about a month ago and AHS was wonderful about the switch. We had them for about seven years and I would refer them. The people who moved in were going to go with American Home Shield, too.

I am extremely dissatisfied with AHS. We put a claim in to have someone come look at a toilet we have upstairs in our full bath upstairs. They sent a company out called Loyalty Plumbing and a gentleman came to the house. He brought a toilet auger with him to the bathroom and before I even made it up to the top of the steps, which five minutes tops, he was coming out of the bathroom and already had the toilet auger back in the bag. He said that something fell into our toilet that clogged it and he couldn't get the ogre down it.

I have no little children, only all teenagers in my house. And I didn't think the kids would be flushing objects down my toilet. I also told him that my husband's got a toilet auger down three times and it still wasn't flushing. He told me my husband didn't have the type of auger he had. I said I could show him the same six feet auger that was outside in the garage because. But refused and said that he will have to call American Home Shield and get us a new toilet.

He left and I didn't hear anything back. I called American Home Shield and they said the toilet was not covered because if we dropped something in the toilet and that was not normal wear and tear. I told them that nothing had fallen in the toilet and told them what happened with the plumber. They said there was nothing they could do so I stopped payment immediately on the $75 service fee check to go to Loyalty Plumbing because of how the plumber was up there and called the company. The owner got irate with my husband and it was bad.

So I called back to American Home Shield and I was on hold forever. When I got through, I talked to three different people and they again said that I could get another company to come out and it would cost you another $75. But if they came back with a different problem then I wouldn't get charged the service fee. I told them that I didn't want Loyalty Home Plumbing to be paid. They said that that didn't matter. Since they came out, they would have to get paid. The higher-up lady then said to me again that there was nothing they could do. I told her that I didn't want to stay with a company that treated their customers the way they did and that I was going to cancel my policy. She told me to do what I had to do so I called to cancel my policy and a lady answered the phone.

She was really nice, asked me why and told me that I was going to get a call in a couple days from retention. A gentleman named Tom called me that next day and asked me what happened and I told him. And the next thing I knew, I got a call from a company called CNJ and they said that they were coming out to look at our toilet. American Home Shield called them out. I asked if there was a service charge for it and they said there wasn't. I told Tom that the CNJ was coming out on Friday to assess the toilet and if they could straighten around, I wouldn't have a problem paying the $75 service charge if it were to go to the company that did their job and I would stay with AHS.

CNJ came out and they were so nice and very professional. I would only let them into my home. The technician told me that we had a vacuum leak in the toilet. There was a crack somewhere going up from wear and system overuse and it wouldn't push it down. They were here for over half an hour. He told me that they would order our toilet and get all that situated. The next thing I knew they came back to put the toilet in and set it all up. They said they had to get a hold of American Home Shield to get the approval from them. A gentleman said that American Home Shield didn't authorize the toilet but he knew we needed one. He told AHS that we couldn't do without it.

So I called American Home Shield again. I was getting the same thing that I had to pay the $75 service fee but it was saying it was going to Loyalty Home. I was not paying Loyalty Home and neither should AHS. I told AHS I would pay the $75 if it was going to CNJ. But it didn't matter who we paid as CNJ got paid as well. So AHS paid $150 and the one company didn’t do their job. I also asked if they gave CNJ the authorization for the toilet which should have been covered and also if they reimbursed them. AHS said they'd get someone to get in contact with me but no one's called me.

I got emails so I wrote a big thing out on the email because it was saying that if I didn't pay the $75, it was going to hurt our policy. After numerous calls and getting nowhere, I did an email reply explaining everything since I didn't have a problem paying the $75 if it was going to go to CNJ. I also wanted to make sure CNJ got reimbursed for the toilet they put in or to see what's going.

If a company runs like that with AHS, I wouldn't want any part in them and I would never recommend them. It's getting to the point where I'm ready to write a horrible report on American Home Shield because I have never in my life dealt with anything like this over a toilet. Whenever I say all this, it just falls on deaf ears. No one has taken it to the proper area. I've called, put on hold for an hour then I got disconnected. As soon as someone picked up the phone, they'd hang the phone up. It was ridiculous. It's terrible how AHS is running the company, for home warranty company. And Loyalty Home services was a joke and people should stay away from them.

I submitted the claim to American Home Shield on the phone, which was all automated and very easy. The tech did not take long to come out. The length of time was basically due to me because they wanted to come out early. But, with my work schedule for the window they had set, they kind of worked around my schedule. He knew what he was doing. He didn’t have what I needed so he put a temporary thermostat up. And then, he had to come back and order a programmable one. I heard about American Home Shield from one of my friends from my church. She’s had them for the past 15 years and she loves them. So when I purchased a condo, I also got AHS based on what she said. I used a different company before but I didn't like them. I quit the service because when my furnace went out, it took me three weeks to get it running. I had no heat during the winter but they took their time before they sent people out to fix the issue. Then they called me when they knew that their contract was almost up, but I said no way.

Compared to that, my experience with American Home Shield has been great. When my garbage disposal was leaking water underneath my sink, I called to file a claim and the wait time was not that long. I got immediate results and I liked that. Also, the guy that they sent out was excellent and he only had to come out that one time. He was very professional, too.

We had AHS work on our heating unit and they replaced part of the heater. However, it took us a while to get it all settled out. Apparently, a lot of the ways they do business have changed and we didn’t know about it. No one had explained to us that we're supposed to pay the $75 fee upfront so we got a bill from American Home Shield in our email saying that we’re delinquent when it’s only been three days. We didn’t know why we were getting a bill and it took us a while to get that resolved. The work that was done was satisfactory. However, we were not happy with the contact and the billing part of it. It’s also impossible to reach anyone on the telephone. I had to wait over an hour to be able to speak to someone.

We've been with them for 15 years and we’ve had some really good experiences with them in the past. We’ve always been extremely happy or we wouldn’t have kept renewing. Even when the process and the service call have gone up, we still renewed because they’ve always been prompt and really easy to deal with until this year. This past year was a little frustrating. No one ever explained to us that they had changed the way they do business. We had already paid our annual fee. We even paid the whole thing at one time. We came really close to canceling because it was so frustrating trying to reach someone on the telephone. Their contractors are very good. Through the years, we’ve been happy with who they send out and we’ve only had one or two that were not top-notch. Overall, we've had a very good experience with AHS and we have recommended them to friends.

I called American Home Shield for an air conditioning problem and on the four occasions that I did, I was on hold for almost an hour each time. Their machine was very helpful because it tells you that your wait time is greater than half an hour, but it's useless since it should tell the time frame. Then, they sent me a fly-by-night company called Total Air Care who came out the first time on October 12th, then on October 20th, 26th, 30th, 31st, November 9th and the seventh time today, November 10. I told them I have no faith in them because every one of them stood in front of me, switched out parts and told me that was the problem, but the parts were working perfectly well. They didn’t know how to diagnose it and had to redo what the guy before them did.

One guy spent an hour putting a new thermostat in, but it was never an issue to begin with. I also got a new capacitor and the one that was in there was a year old, a new blower module and a new relay module. But if that doesn’t fix it, we're back to square one and they have to come back the 8th time. Also, I just spent another three and a half hours today waiting and working with AHS's contractor. I had to rearrange my schedule every day, sit here and wait for them and get up in the attic with them to see what they're doing.

They also sent me different technicians and last time, I told them that I didn’t want the last two they sent me. One of them left the cover off outside the condenser and ran off with the screw, and I didn’t want the condenser to be exposed to the rain. He even had an attitude with me when he came back. I also asked him to show me his credentials but he's not even a school-trained mechanic.

When I asked Home Shield to switch to another company, they said I couldn’t switch until it went through them at least four times. I called them at the sixth time and they told me I didn’t call them every time and went directly to the company, and I could go with another company but have to pay another $75. I told them I already paid $75 and that they sent me an incompetent company, so when I asked what if I pay again and they send me a company who can’t diagnose the problem, they said they’re not responsible for it.

In addition to that, the air conditioner didn’t work when I came back on Monday and my housemate said the air conditioner ran all weekend, 24/7. My housemate is also a hypochondriac and allergic to everything. She's coughing and gagging because I had the windows open and she didn’t want to be in here because of the air quality. So, I had to listen to her complain every day and she said she would never use Home Shield again when she owns a home. Overall, I’m not happy because of the phone service and because they made me stick with bad companies. I got a new system which was a win for me, but the service was ridiculous and horrible.

I had an ongoing claim with American Home Shield as far as my plumbing is concerned though it is closed now. The first guy that came out snaked out my pipe but the same problem existed. I waited a couple of days to make sure that was what was happening although it wasn't to the same magnitude as when I initially called them. I called them back again and they came back. It was an acceptable time period and he changed out the garbage disposal. But this time when he left, there was water draining on the floor and it was coming from that side of the sink where he worked on and had replaced the garbage disposal. And I knew it was that side because between the time he did not come and he came back, we only used the right side of the sink and the water wasn't draining out.

I kept calling them back. He came on a Friday and I called him back that next day which was a Saturday. I understood that it was the weekend but I still expected to hear some response from him but he never called me back. When I called him, his wife answered the phone and she said that the office did not open until 10. I assumed he wasn't up for talking or going to any visit until after 10. That wasn't a good experience for me. When I called them back the next week and explained my problem, she said that she would send someone who was a master plumber and would fix it. When one of the reps came back the third time, he fixed it though the same guy didn't come every job.

I haven't had any problems but the first time their guy came, I gave him a check and he never deposited it. I have been receiving some notices from AHS that I need to pay my account because my account is delinquent. But my account isn't delinquent because AHS does a draft on my account every month. I'm reluctant to call AHS and pay them and then their guy submits or cashes the check. I don't want to do a stop payment because I did what I was supposed to do.

Moreover, I called AHS to file a claim because when they sent me a letter, they had a customer representative number there. I wanted to hear a voice and I wanted to talk to somebody. When I initially called and explained my problem, it was a voice recording so I couldn't converse with her. I called for several things that I had problems with and when I said the light in the oven was not working, she said that I needed to talk to an electrician. She gave me the person to call, Cheviano. He has come to my house before and I knew he was an electrician. He came out and I told him that I wasn't having electrical problems and that I was having a problem with my oven. He gave me the customer service number because he does wiring. My wiring was fine and I already checked to see if I needed to reset my electrical outlet. It was just a light that burned out and American Home Shield charged me for that.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend AHS because I've had them for so many years, and this is the first time I've had a problem with it. Not with American Home Shield, but with their vendor.

Every year we have AHS get our air conditioner fixed and I prefer to file my claim over the phone because I like to make sure I’m talking to somebody and it’s getting addressed right away. My husband does it online though. They recently fixed it but we're not happy with the process that AHS has because this air conditioner is very old. We had it fixed seven times in one year. If I ask the rep how I could go about possibly getting a new AC, I feel like I never get an answer and it’s really unresolved. They explain it but it never really makes sense to me.

They always say to have the technician submit something and I tell them that the technician won’t submit anything because the problem is fixable. It has to be completely broken. They said that they will never replace it as long as it’s fixable, but unfortunately, we had to have somebody come out four times in a month. If our air conditioner went out, it was the same issue over and over but it was fixable. I feel that with AHS if you ever want anything replaced, it’s never going to happen.

Last year, our AC went out immediately multiple times. But recently, it stayed okay. Majority of the time, the technicians have not done a good job though. There was this one guy who went to the attic, cut his hand and was gushing blood. He was walking to my living room and dripping blood over everything which was gross. I was sympathetic and wanted to help the guy, but he could have stayed in there and asked for help.

My house is in the market to be sold, and that’s why I have American Home Shield and so I contacted the company and they made arrangements for air conditioning people and for plumbers. The plumbers came first and they found the leak and were able to repair it so that was very good because I’ve been going without water for a week in the house because I had to shut off the main.

But I was a bit frustrated about the air conditioning service. The company came and they identified the problem, a blower motor in the air handling unit, but they did not have the appropriate motor so they said they would have to special order and come back in about a week. And when they came back with the new motor, they had the wrong one so it was another week before they were able to install a new motor and get it fixed. Other than that, I was satisfied with the work that was done.

I made two claims with American Home Shield. One of the outlets was giving me problems. The guy that American Home Shield sent came and fixed it. He changed the whole outlet and it worked again. But I asked him if the company would cover a major problem with all the wires in my house and he told me no. He said what they do is repair what is not working but they won't pay for the whole wiring. And they didn't give me another option in the computer. So if it's electric it doesn’t let you put anything else.

This next complaint was with the plumbing. I was telling the guy that I have a little leak in my bathroom. It's a small guest bathroom. He didn't change anything. He just adjusted what's there. He told me, "Just don't take out that wall, because there's a lot of mold in that wall." And I said, "And you don't fix it?" He said, "No, we don't fix those claims. I don't think that American Shield also covered walls. No, they won't, okay?"

He said, "Don't mess with that wall because you will open a Pandora box. There's a lot of mold there and you will have to change the whole wall." The reps were very kind persons and oriented to the detail and very professional. But I would like the contractor to fill a form saying that I have mold. Nobody knows but him. The duct system for my heating and air conditioning unit was not working and the air flow was light. When I filed the claim over with AHS, it was pretty easy and their live representatives were nice. Their contractors aren't the best, though. The one they sent for the duct system didn't come out right when he was supposed to, but besides that he was fine. I'm just waiting for someone to come out to install it. The technician's really booked out to the heating season, but that doesn't have anything to do with American Home Shield.

I had another claim for a plumbing issue and the contractors they sent for that one were terrible. When they first came out, they said that nothing was wrong when I knew that there was a big leak from my tub. The drain was clogged and every time I tried to plug it or even use the plunger, it would leak down through my ceiling in my kitchen because my bathroom is upstairs. So I called them again and they came out again. They then said that it was just an easy fix so hey said they'd fix it again and I don't know what they did but it didn’t fix the problem. So I had to call them again. But they never came out and they didn't want to do it.

AHS sent out another contractor who finally fixed it and I'm glad they did, but the whole plumbing issue took about a month. It sucks that it took that long. Also, I didn't like how they fixed it because they got floor joist to put in the pipe and I had to pay someone to put in new floor joist in my house. AHS usually only has two contractors per area, so that makes it hard. But AHS sends someone out fast if you do have a problem. This is not my first time that I've gotten a home warranty, plus I did a lot of research to get one when I bought a house, and I think that AHS is the best company for home warranties.

Whenever I file a claim with American Home Shield, the company they contract with contacts me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Then they come out and evaluate the situation, go back to American Home Shield to find out if the problem is covered and then they schedule the repairs. We had a company come back because they forgot to hook up one of the pipes which meant if we had had another issue, it would have flooded our garage, so we took care of that.

I have contractors I prefer to work with and when you go through someone like American Home Shield to a point you’re locked in to their people initially. There are pluses and minuses to that. We’re in a large city and it's great if you can get somebody out to come out relatively quickly to ascertain what the problem is. And I have had an issue when the hot water heater went out year ago and they said they would send someone to replace it. We had someone we preferred to work with and they said, “Okay. This is the replacement cost.” And they allowed us to bring out our guy and they sent me a check for that amount.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield since 2009 and I will renew it. If you have a claim, it definitely more than pays for itself. I pay under $800 a year and I just got a brand new hot water heater that is the same brand that I had. They replaced it and that would have cost me $1,200 just for the hot water heater and not counting repairs. That's great value right there. My house is 22 years old and we go to great lengths to keep up with everything. But even with that, unexpected things happen so I would recommend people look into American Home Shield. I have a friend who now signed up with them based on my experience, and they researched other companies themselves and American Home Shield offered the best coverage.

When I have to submit a claim to American Home Shield, I just go online and indicate what needs repair and then they have somebody contact me. They'd notify me immediately who the repair company will be and then that person contacts me usually within 24 to 48 hours. The last time I had a claim, I called them because I wanted to request the company that had come out the previous time. It was an easy conversation and the wait time wasn't too bad. All of their contractors were fine but we wanted the last guy to come back because he did such a good job with our air conditioner. But instead of having to call in, it would be nice if their website had a thing where I could check air conditioner and there was a place for notes where I can write that we're requesting for a particular person.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield for my refrigerator and I had to stay on the phone for about an hour before someone answers. Their claims process could be better especially when your computer's down and you can't go on the computer. And when you call in for a request update, it's the same process. I understand that AHS is trying to get everybody to use online, but when you call, you go through the automated service, and then you request for a representative, that's when the wait time comes in. You get that music recording and wait for a representative to pick up. But once you get in contact with someone for you to put your work request in, everything goes in the flow. Their rep's treated us great. The service for our refrigerator claim went well and it's doing great now. Overall, it's a great warranty company.

I filed a claim four weeks ago to American Home Shield for my AC that's having problems. The water runs after the heat pump. The technician came out and put Freon in my old unit and it lasted for about two weeks and then they came back again and put in a new outside unit and fixed the problem. I got an issue but I don't know why the heat pump doesn't get hot when I turn the heat on. I'm not sure how that works especially if it's cold outside. I don't know if the Freon's supposed to heat up or what. I don't understand it. But other than that, the AC part works fine. My AC's working now.

Their reps were very good. I've had AHS ever since I bought the house in 2009. And they fixed my refrigerator, my dishwasher, my stove, washing machine. So, they have good quality work. The workers were really nice and professional. I even told my neighbor he needs to get AHS coverage for his house. So far, I'm satisfied with AHS. I would recommend them to anyone that would be looking for insurance coverage on their home appliances.

When we called on them, they wanted the co-payment of $75 before they send out somebody. Every time we make a claim it's $75 if they provide the service. They were nice and they explained how the system works. They set up a time and appointment and they came in that time allotted. The guy from the lock company was also very nice, knowledgeable and efficient. He took care of it.

I filed a claim for a leakage in my refrigerator. I tried to do it that fastest way by calling. It was easier for me than doing it online. I called the contractor directly and said “Did you receive this order?” And they said “Oh yes, we received it,” because if I wait it takes a whole day. I filed two claims -- one for the plumber and the other one was the refrigerator guy.

The appliance guy is the best. He was so nice and he will tell you how things are and all that. He came a couple of times and I was like, “Oh my god, he was so good." But the plumber was so-so. Instead of putting a new hose for my leakage under my deck for the water he just tied it up and he said “No, we’re going to charge $150 all-expense paid.” And AHS sends a picture of everything from the person that’s going to come to you and they tell you if he’s 10 minutes away. It’s so cool. If he’s 10 minutes away I get ready and clear everything up for them so they don’t have anything around them and they can work. And they fixed everything.

But I initially have issues with American Home Shield two years ago. No one came to me and I spent three days with no heating. They tried to make it up to me and I cut my service for two years because that was not good. And now I was also getting bills for something that I already paid online and I’m worried. I already made the payments because now you have to put the order in where you make a payment with your credit card.

But I referred American Home Shield to a lot people because I know they had upgraded a lot of things and it's getting better now. They have better people and they had better companies working for them. So I appreciate that because some of the companies that worked for them were very crappy before. And now they’re more responsible — because they’re going to have more secure jobs with them and they’re going to have more work. And that’s working better for everybody. The customers also feel better.

For three years, I've been an AHS customer and they have been good. Their people have been courteous and knowledgeable, but there are areas for improvement. This includes getting in touch with them because there's almost an hour hold time. Also, the response in terms of scheduling service is not consistent. There is a minimum time per the contract but sometimes it's slow and sometimes it's faster. But I've seen that change in the last two years.

My last claim to them was a sewage ejector pump issue and our toilet was clogging. It hasn't been fixed yet but it was easy to have them follow up. I had followup appointments twice, especially on plumbing. It was a disappointing service. They misinterpreted the contract and they were not ready to listen so I had to talk to a supervisor. Their staff is not clear about contracts themselves. That raised to an issue in which I had a two-hour call and then back and forth. Then the supervisor called me after three days. If it were an emergency issue, it would have been a big problem.

My water heater was making a very strange noise although it wasn’t leaking. I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on so I turned the water off, called AHS and scheduled. The rep let me know who the local person was that would be calling me and gave me the contact information in case I didn’t hear from them. She told me it would probably be 24 to 48 hours before I would hear from somebody. I ended up calling the local person that she gave just to check because I was worried it could be gas or something else. And when I talked to the local people, they said it would take within the same day. They said that it usually would be at the end of that day or early the next morning before they received the claim. And once they did, they called me right away and scheduled it for the next day.

It took about three days for my appointment. He called me when he was on his way and once the guy got here, which was within the time frame, he found out that the water heater was making noise because it was sending the water out through that relief valve. He fixed it within 30 minutes. There’s no more noise and it’s working perfectly.

But before that, he took me outside to where that water comes up from the relief valve just so I would know what was going on. He showed me that the water was coming out and if it ever happened again, I could check to see if it’s the water and I would know that was what the problem was. He was excellent and courteous. He was very good explaining what was going on and very quick. The only thing they could improve on is the time frame. The window that they gave me that they would be there was a five-hour window which is a little bit long as it's going to basically take the whole day. Moving forward, if they could make smaller windows, it would be much better relief.

It was an easy process and the challenge initially was finding the number because I had my packet placed away securely. But once I found the number, it was easy to call directly rather than go online. There was a brief wait time when I called but it was reasonable, and the rep that I spoke to was very proficient.

The contractor fixed the toilet that day, but there was an issue that he did not address. There was a leak from some pipe that led to the garage, but he couldn’t determine where it was coming from because the pipe is in the wall. He needed to follow up with his people and get back with American Home Shield to get his authorization to go into the wall and resolve that and schedule another appointment. But that was about six days later and it didn't happen. He failed to follow-through, so I had to call back to reschedule another appointment. But overall, I don't have any issue with American Home Shield and I had a very favorable experience with them.

I turned the heater and it made a huge bumping sound like it was about to explode. I turned it off and wasn’t sure what was going on. My husband came home from work and we turned it on again, same noise. He said to go ahead and call American Home Shield. The girl said we're not covered for noise, so we need to do it ourselves. I said AHS covers heater but she said not for noise. It took several minutes for me to get her to file my claim. She refused to send someone to my house to check on my heater. We've had AHS for three years now since we moved into our home and it has always been an awesome, very good experience. This was the first time I ever had something like this happen.

When the technician finally came, the heater guy said there was something wrong and it shouldn’t be making noise. He found exactly what was wrong and fixed the problem. Every other claims have been good and very prompt. One thing I really like is the follow up service and AHS never tries to charge me extra for it. They call me back when they know that the person didn’t get the job done. I never have to call and chase them down. The contractors are honest in looking at things. If they're unable to fix it, they're honest about it and ask to do a follow up and find somebody. I like that. I've never had any bad interactions with them. We even have our pool covered with AHS and we've always gotten good service even with the pool people. We've recommended AHS on several occasions.

I recently had service requests with American Home Shield for the oven and the garbage disposal. And as far as the garbage disposal, the technician did his best shot and he ultimately was able to get it done as fast as he could. However, there were multiple issues with the oven and it took four weeks to get it repaired. Getting a request was a big issue. It takes time to order parts and it wasn’t anything quick, but I'm glad we were able to get it resolved.

I called American Home Shield twice when I was looking to sign-up and the sign-up process was easy. But I was concerned that it was very difficult to know exactly what’s covered and what’s not. It’s very elaborate when it comes to what the plan supports, but it's not very detailed when you’re requesting for a service. I had the garbage disposal replaced because it was leaking. My garbage disposal was covered, but the power cord was not covered so I had to pay separately for it. I was not expecting that the coverage of my garbage disposal excludes the power cable. So, I had a lot of heartburn behind it and I did not like it at all. I ended up paying it. It really kind of bothered me but it was a fair amount of money that I would have to pay for the service.

When I had to call them to extend the request, which I did twice over the phone and then one over the internet, both experiences were fine. And I didn’t have any problems submitting the request. I am kind of thorough, so I didn’t wait until the service company contacts me. And so, I followed up with them and then I had to wait until they were available to give me a callback, which was not a problem. On each request, I waited about two days until they called me to get a date scheduled, and it wasn’t bad.

The only other thing that could have been improved was knowing more details about what happened. I would hope that the company that’s doing the request would understand that I had a problem with paying for the power cord and put it into the notes. I would like for AHS to know that it was something that I paid in addition to the $75 service fee and to what I’m paying for my service membership. But overall, I’ve had a positive experience. Outside of the power cord, which was a part of the details in the agreement that I did not like at all, my experience with the representatives, signing up online, the website and understanding my account details, have all been great. I got what I wanted and I’m satisfied with the all the benefits that it brings.

The contractor came out and did a repair then the same exact problem occurred. He came back out, claimed to fix it and said that was a fluke but then it happened again the third time. I suspect that the person might not know quite as much as he should. The website clearly has an issue as well. It shows that you can click to pay the $75 fee when the service is gone but it does not work at all. You have no choice but to pay $75 even if you have a return service or a repair that was not right. Now we’re calling the actual repair people rather than calling back Home Shield, who we cannot contact at all. That full charge is not fun and I’m not going to be paying another $75 for them to come out. But other than that, everything else has been fine.

The issue with my refrigerator has been going on since before October. The first time when I originally issued the claim, no one called me for a week and a half. Then when I called back to see why no one called me, they gave me another company. That company called and they came out two weeks later, in early October. When he came out, he said that he had to order some parts. He came and put the part in, but it didn’t work. The cold came on again, so I had to call them back out. They came back out on November the 7th. He just looked at it and he had to order some more parts. I called to see what was taking so long for these parts to come in and when I called back on the 16th, I was told that they had just submitted the order for the parts. So another week and a couple of days had gone by before they had even submitted the order for the parts.

So the parts didn’t come in until the 22nd, the day before Thanksgiving. Needless to say, I did not have a refrigerator for Thanksgiving. So, when the people came on Thanksgiving to try to fix it, they said, “Oh, your refrigerator just needed to get defrosted.” I said, “Well, nobody told me that. I would have had it defrosted”. So he came back on Tuesday and he told me to wait 24 hours and I left my house, and he came in about 2:00 yesterday. When I left out of my house at 11:00 o’ clock, it should have been cold at that time, but it wasn’t. The cold was coming on, but it’s not cooling, so I had to call again. I called Universal, and they said to call AHS so he can come out. Now, he’s going to come out on Tuesday with some kind of diagnostic tool to see why it’s not cooling.

AHS take too long to pick up so you have to stay on the phone for at least half an hour. And when I try to get something resolved, they'd say, “Oh the supervisor is in here. She’s online.” I felt like I had to pull teeth to try and get some resolution. I should not have paid that full-service fee when from the very beginning, no one called me for a week and a half, and then when they came out, it took another week to order the parts, and when they came to repair it, they never told me that I need a deposit. So, all around, it’s been problems. They said that they would give me half off on the next service but I said, “I don’t even know if I’m going to even keep it after this.”

American Home Shield was recommended to us by a co-worker of my husband. From the first time someone made contact with us in regards to calling with enrollment to calling to get payment information change and update it, I had great service calls. With my initial calls to set up and inquire about the service, the young lady that set-up my service was very nice and knowledgeable of everything that they offer.

My most recent claim was a couple of weeks ago, when my dryer went out. I filed a claim online and within a couple of hours after filing the claim, the contractor company contacted me and asked me what was wrong. The caller asked me to give her the model and the main information with the serial number. I got her that information, she called me back and was able to schedule the service call. The tech came out with the part in here, repaired it and that was it. I tried to get everybody's name the last week to when I have to call, just in case we run into some problems down the line. But so far, that was the only thing that I've had to call about. Now our dryer's working great. I get a lot of horror stories from people about front load washers and dryers, and I also get a lot of horror stories from people about Samsung appliances. But ours was repairable and it's serving its purpose.

From my first experience with having to use American Home Shield, for what I pay monthly and what I had to pay for the service cost of the tech who came out, it was worth it. Without them, calling somebody out to repair the dryer would have cost us a lot more than what we're paying and what we're getting as well as the one-time service fee from what I was told is covered for that contractor to come out and repair. And if there's anything else that goes on with my dryer in a certain amount of time, they come back out and we don't have to put up the $125 in.

Our dishwasher wasn’t working, and I submitted the claim online. Then American Home Shield contacted within 24 hours. It was very quickly. And then we set up the quickest appointments that worked for both of our schedules. We spoke with the contractor over the phone. He called me when he was close to tell me that he was on his way. And when he was here he was very polite and professional. He fixed it, and he was great.

My AC suddenly stopped working and I made a claim online. The AHS website was good and it was easy to navigate. I got a tech who was very knowledgeable and professional. He cleaned the AC and said that there was a problem with the motor. It had to be replaced. Then he replaced some liquids and fluids. The AC is working fine now. The only inconvenience, especially for people working, was when scheduling an appointment window wise, they gave a whole day time rather than giving a certain window. The technician could come any time within the day. But it should have been narrowed down to at least an hour or two so that I didn't need to stay at home the whole day. Other than that, it was an excellent experience.

I had a problem with my heater making a lot of noise and it was not heating up as quickly as it used to either. I was off of work and waiting when the guy came, which was even sooner than I expected. He didn't take long to pinpoint what the issues were. He said the filters needed to be replaced and the motor was the one making the noise. It was about to go but he oiled it and when he left it seemed a little quieter. He said to give him a call back if there were any more problems. He didn't have any filters but all my problems had to stop so I had to go to the store and get filters. But the only complaint I have with American Home Shield is the wait time when you call on the phone. It's long sometimes but the reps were always very friendly. Plus there's always good service and good people have come to repair.

They also gave me a result of the repairman coming to our house last week and told me what I can do. AHS is very fast, and they respond very well.

I recently submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone when my air conditioner went out. I gave the claims rep my account number and told him what happened then he set me up with an appointment with ACE Unit who was our a/c guy out of San Antonio. ACE Unit came and said it was the compressor. They told the AHS what we needed and took care of it.

But when AHS had someone came out for the a/c the first time it was a different company and I was not impressed with them. I called AHS back and told one of their reps that I didn't want those to represent AHS. The rep said that it's not a problem and that they would send someone else and they did. AHS was quick and on time. When they said they're sending someone they will and I don’t have to check up on them. They’re a good company to have and I like them.

I've had a good experience with AHS in the three years I've been with them. I've filed a claim over the phone for my fridge and my dryer, and though the wait time is terrible, my experience with the last two guys they sent out has been good. If there's something wrong and I call them, they're out here in a couple of days with no problem. The refrigerator was leaking and since the freezer was on the bottom, it was filling up with water. Then the water would freeze. The guy came here Monday and made sure it was working right. First, he flushed out the back and then came back three weeks later. He pulled the whole pan off from the front and side of the freezer and flushed it out. It worked perfectly.

The guy who fixed my washing machine was also very good at what he did. There have been three other people who came to work on it, but they didn't know what they were doing. He came and figured out what the problem was right away. He got the part needed and fixed the washing machine. My hot water heater was also blowing up so we called AHS. The guy who came looked at it and called the plumber. The plumber was out here that same day and fixed it. Then it started leaking but they fixed it right away.

I've been with AHS for 13 or so years and they've done quite a bit. One example is my attic fan which they replaced it. But my claim for my upstairs AC took forever. My original call to AHS was in March and throughout the months until October when it was replaced. I had the technicians come out eight times. The contractor first said it was the Freon but eventually, it was the compressor which they replaced. They came out again and said that it was leaking coolant at the unit and my attic. That was when I had AHS replace it. But I ended up paying $700 in Freon throughout March until October because it was not covered. Also, I usually get online for my claims but I ended up having to call AHS right before they did the replacement because I couldn't do anything online because it was still a previous ticket. I was on hold for 50 minutes before I finally talked to somebody.

I ordered the part so that it could be customed to what I wanted it to be. And then, he came back when the part was here and finished the job. We’re very happy with the results! I had two plumbing issues, and both of them have been resolved in a very timely and professional manner. I have no complaints. My AC kept blowing a fuse, and every time the repair people come out, they would just say, “Oh, it’s just a broken fuse". In a period of three years, they came out at least seven times. But, there were some other issues that had happened. Then another air conditioning company came and figured it out, and they repaired it. When I’ve spoken to American Home Shield about it, after speaking to them one night, then the issue was resolved. I think they gave me a couple of free service calls, so they gave me like two $75 credits.

There was a dispute once with American Home Shield too when one of the representatives said, “No, that’s not going to be covered.” I said, “Okay. Well, then I just won’t renew with you guys.” And then afterwards somebody from American Home Shield retention called me and said, “Hey, what can we do to get you back?” After I told them what happened, the agent went ahead and she submitted the claim for me and that’s how they’re able to resolve the issue. Right now, I’m not very happy with American Home Shield because they renewed my contract wherein the price went up by 7$ a month. Furthermore, $75 is expensive when they do a service call.

I’ve been trying to get my refrigerator fixed for two and a half weeks now. American Home Shield first assigned me to a company called Big Bill’s. They came out and they diagnosed my refrigerator problem. They said it was something with the compressor and they didn’t work on that. They called American Home Shield and said that the job had to be assigned to someone else. Then they assigned me to All Star Appliance. All Star Appliance is the gentleman that came out on my refrigerator and said that he replaced the computer circuit board in the back, and it still froze up after that. But then he claims that American Home Shield canceled the work order.

I requested someone else to do the job other than All Star Appliances. So they assigned it to Bush’s Appliance Repair. They got the work order and a young man came out yesterday. He troubleshot the refrigerator and checked everything that he could. He diagnosed it as being the compressor and said that he would call to get one. But when I called American Home Shield this morning to find out if there was anything that they can do for us since we’ve been without a refrigerator for a long time now and we lost our food, they simply said that there was nothing that they can do. That’s not their business. It was rumored to me by someone that they would purchase a small refrigerator so people can have some refrigerator for their milk at least. However, they said that they don’t do that.

So we are still waiting for a refrigerator. The lady that I spoke to said that the part would be in on the 12th of November. And as soon as Bush’s Appliance can, they would come out and put it on my refrigerator. One problem I have with American Home Shield is that every time I call, I have to be put on extended hold. I was on hold Thursday morning and I’m not happy at all with being on hold for an hour and a half. When the lady answered the phone, she simply told me that their computer system was down, and there was nothing that they can do to help me with my problem. I have a very busy life schedule. I have things that I have to do that takes me away from the phone and being on hold for that amount of time for me is ridiculous.

It looks like we’re going to get the refrigerator repaired. When I originally called in the work order, I called in the work order for two things. One, the refrigerator froze up and then, the freezer side of my refrigerator defrosted. When I went to bed, I thought it was working fine. But when I woke up the next morning, it wasn’t working. It froze up and everything was thawing out. Also, the ice maker makes ice but it does not dispense ice. The guy from Bush’s Appliance Repair came yesterday and said that he can’t see why it’s not dispensing ice. There was no ice in there so he couldn’t know whether it’s dispensing ice or not. But he defrosted it yesterday. When we woke up this morning, it was half a container of ice, which is fine. But when I tried to press the panel, I could hear the motor making a sound but no ice comes out.

The problem I have with them is when I’m speaking to someone on the phone, they’re talking to me like they are repairmen when they’re not. They are people that are aking information. So they should take the information and pass it on to somebody, and get somebody out that can do the job. With regards to the contractors, Big Bill’s fine and they were good. Bush’s Appliance Repair was good as well. But All Star Appliance was negative. I’m dissatisfied with the service that I received from All Star Appliance Repair. We've been with American Home Shield for two years now and the experiences with them have been fair. On the other issues that I had, they sent somebody out and we got it done but it’s always waiting for a part needed.

I've only been in this house two months now, and this is the first time I've had to use American Home Shield. I was having issues with the heating. A serviceman from All Temperature Heating & Cooling came out, and all it was is a five-minute fix. Whoever serviced it before we moved in had the furnace on pilot instead of fire, so all the serviceman did was click the switch to fire. Now we have heat, but I had to call back October 23rd because we can't turn the heat off. Looks like the thermostat and the furnace is not communicating.

I set up an appointment and I talked to the serviceman about what was going on. When he was here the first time, he did look at the thermostat, and he thought something might be wrong with it. I called and spoke to him on 25th. He said he was waiting for the thermostat. I called November 1st. I spoke to someone at American Home Shield who tried to reach him but couldn't, so she sent an email upstairs to contact people.

November 2nd, she said she was going to get back to me, and find out and give me some info, but no phone call. I called and it's the same thing. The rep could not get in touch with the company. He sent another email upstairs. November 6th, I called and spoke to the serviceman, who managed to get in touch with them all of a sudden, and they're waiting on another part. But he never told me this the first time. All he told me was the part on waiting on the thermostat.

I called All Temperature Heating & Cooling and at that time, their mailbox was full. I couldn't even leave a message. That was the same thing that happened when the other reps calls. Contractors should clear their voicemail, so you can leave a message. Also, I told John the contractor that he was better off. The day I talked to him on the 25th of October I told him to to go to Home Depot and get a thermostat. If that's what he think the problem is, and let them reimburse him when the part comes in.

The wait time is ridiculous when calling AHS. It's an hour, and within that hour, I got disconnected twice, so I had to call back. I got disconnected on their end, and I had to call back and wait another hour. I had to do that three times on November 6th, when I spoke to Jordan. I got a text from American Home Shield that the contractor would be contacting me within the next 24 hours. However, it's now November 10th, and I haven’t heard anything from anybody. For the mean time, I just keep turning the furnace on and off because that's what John told me to do.

A technician came out and did a good job but after I paid him, he told AHS that he didn't get paid. So AHS sent me a thing saying I hadn't paid him and I had to go get a copy of the check I gave him then fax it back to AHS to clear my bill. That was discomforting but it was a confusing time when they were switching to making payments online. Finally, they got that straightened up and it's made things easier.

We usually file our claims with AHS online and haven't had any issues getting what we needed fixed. But we learned from one of our recent transactions that if we have more than one system, we need to file our claim by phone because when we do it online, we can only put in one claim for one system. I wasn't pleased about that. With our new home we have multiple AC units and because we only put one claim in, they only were going to service one unit. They told us to call back and pay another service call fee for them to service the other units. But the contract doesn't specify how many units when the contractor comes out.

The contractor we dealt with was great and very flexible. But we had an issue with Greenway. We put two claims in, one for the AC and one for the furnace. But the person who came out said he was there for only one of the claims. For whatever reason, AHS decided to cancel one of our claims. When I called to ask why they sent only one person when we had two claims, they said they didn't think we needed the other one. But they never called to check with us and they had the contractor turn back around and come back out.

Another thing is with M&M contractors. They wouldn’t service our claim because we only did it online. The rep walked me through the process and was very knowledgeable about how to handle it and what to do. But she also acted as if American Home Shield was their company. So some of the interaction we had with her wasn't that good. Other than that, the work that the contractors, Greenway and M&M, have done were great. I've had AHS on my house for three years now and everything has been great. But the warranty is a lot of money.

The contractor said they were going to be there between 8:00 and 1:00, so my wife stayed on that day. The guy didn't call until about 5:00 and he was trying to get into the drive gate and we couldn't get him in. But they didn't call us and say they couldn't make it so we could make other arrangements. But they came the next day and took care of the AC.

The contractor seemed to know what he was doing but he didn't talk much. He tried to explain the issue to my in-laws who were there but up to now, I'm not aware of what the problem was. My in-laws couldn't explain to me what he really said. It was weird because when we had previous technicians that came, they would explain the problem. But for some reason, the contractor who came didn't explain it properly. Other than that, he did a good job and the AC is working well.

I've been with AHS for a long time and one thing they are doing well is whenever you need something, you can contact them and they schedule a service, that's very efficient. The real problem is the companies they are using. Sometimes the company is not the best and they have sent some bad companies in the past. They need to screen the companies a little bit more. There have been three instances where we told AHS we didn't want the company that was here before to come back. My wife would talk to them and explain to them exactly why. They didn't put up a resistance. They said they it was not a problem, they understood and they complied. Other than that, I've recommended AHS to a lot of people.

Then we found out that he needed another part. He came back and said he could not get the dishwasher out. I talked to my tenant and the wife was able to pull the dishwasher out. I was told lame excuses that it has to be a GE part and they can't find it, and they don't do this. Another week passed and they said they shipped the part to the house. The part never showed up.

We waited and waited until after three months, and my tenant got upset with me 'cause I didn't have a dishwasher. So I ended up coming out of my pocket buying a new dishwasher and having it installed. Although I have been contacting American Home Shield about this problem, they told me because I didn't do something right, I did not have their approval to buy a dishwasher and were not willing to compensate me.

This was in my property in Louisiana. I was upset about it especially 'cause I've been paying month after month for the maintenance fee. Because they were not working at all for me, I ended up cancelling the warranty. But the people that I had working here in California did well. They came out and repaired the air conditioning, garbage disposal, and the shower. The service has been okay and I'm waiting to get a stove delivered today because my stove was too far gone for them to repair.

But after they contacted us, they were very nice and they eventually fixed the problem. We really liked them and if something would come up again, I'd call them again.

But there was something on the contract saying that if it's faulty work, then it's covered. This house was renovated when we bought it, and we have a brand new tiled floor in the bathroom shower, and grout is coming out of the floor and the tiles are moving. And when I called American Home Shield, they said that walls, floors, and ceilings are not under the contract. And to me, it looks like it is under the contract. So if it's not covered then they should not put it in their contract because it's misleading and it's false advertising.

I asked to speak to the manager and the rep said there was not one available. So she was going to have the supervisor call me. I asked when can I expect a cal, and she told me that they'd get back to me within 24 hours but they never called me back. It takes 45 minutes to get through so I didn't call them back. And I've called them twice before that and both times, I was on hold for 45 minutes before I could even get somebody.

And then they sent out another contractor and they’ve been wonderful.

The AC is fine but the furnace, unfortunately, is still doing what it was doing before. It's such an old furnace and there’s a way to bleed the line to keep the water so you don’t hear it and unfortunately, the tech didn't know exactly how to do it, so I’m still hearing the water running through. Home Shield is a good product and they've been very good, though. They’re always very on time and I've had a very good experience so far. Previously, I have already claimed for something else, which they didn’t cover as well. They said it’s covered but I had to repair the coil of my AC unit. I had to pay $1,300 or $1,400.

I submitted a claim online to AHS using my phone and they got a great guy to came out. He was on time and did everything he said he was going to. Everything is good.

When it was starting to get colder, I tried to turn on the heater, and it just seemed to be blowing only cold air. So, we were worried that our heater was broken because our house inspector told us when he looked at the house when we bought it, that it was a rather old heater. So, we put in a claim with American Home Shield that it was broken, and it was easy to set up an appointment. Once they got here, they didn’t take long. Some guy came, and he was really nice and professional. It turned out that the nest thermostat that I had set up was wired wrong. So, the air conditioner was also turning on at the same time as the heater. The technician was able to identify the issue quickly and got it rewired correctly. So, everything worked out pretty quickly. Everything has been working great since. However, my wife is a little upset with AHS that our garage door isn’t covered, and we are wondering why. Other than that, we’re happy with them.

I’ve done three claims recently with American Home Shield and it was very easy. We did a dryer, a water heater and a septic line for plumbing. I submitted the claims online but I had to do one of them over the phone and they didn’t give me the same plumber that they did for the first one. The technician fixed the dryer and it is great. The water heater took months to get it working, but it is working now. And the plumbing in our garage is working fine, too.

The technician and plumbers who came out were good but the back office at one of them was terrible. It wasn’t American Home Shield's fault but the plumber blamed it on them and they blamed it on the plumbing. But other than that, the experience with American Home Shield was good overall and I would recommend it because I'm saving money. But because I'm saving money, I also lose some of that great customer service not necessarily from American Home Shield.

I'm an extremely satisfied customer of American Home Shield. In fact, I'm getting ready to sell my home and move and I'm going to make sure that I get AHS for my home and purchase AHS for the next homeowner. I couldn't live without AHS and I make sure I use my services. If I need anything, it's never complicated. I love the promptness, expertise and the knowledge of the servicemen that they send out. The wait time is very, very short. Their process was simple, easy and straight to the point. All I do is pay my $75, they come out and they do everything. If you need something replaced, then they bring you a new one, you sign the papers and they're going home. They send the best technicians out, they do their thing and the experience was wonderful!

With respect to professionalism, they were quick, straight to the point and knowledgeable about whatever they're doing. One time, one contractor couldn't get an item fixed. He made sure that he called the head electrician, he came out, found the problem and got the job done. I've had them come out here on eight different occasions, from the plumbers to the electricians. As a matter of fact, I just had the electricians out here not even a month ago. They fixed the problem and they were in here less than five minutes. He found the problem so fast, he didn't have to cut the power off. I couldn't believe it! I love them and I'll always keep American Home Shield. In fact, I got them on speed dial on my phone. That's the company I will always use and recommend.

We have three restrooms on the top floor and there was water coming down through the garage. We called American Home Shield and pinpointed that it was from one of the restrooms. When the contractor went in to the hatch up there, he found that the trap and the drain were loose. He thought that was the problem so he completely replaced that top to bottom. Then when it continued to drip the next day, he came back and found that condensation was created from that water dripping down the pipes and it deteriorated the coffer. He cut it out and went above and beyond for us. We were also very happy he came out the very next day when we determined it was not resolved.

We've filed three claims after having AHS for about a year and a half, and so far, they've done what they’re supposed to. In this day and age, that is positive in my opinion, especially when dealing with warranties and insurance. We've tried submitting a claim over the phone but we had to wait quite some time. So, we tried the online method and that was pretty effective. Going forward, that’s the method we’ll use. Also, the contractors they sent out have been great and made good follow up.

If file a claim with AHS online, it's very simple and painless. But there are certain things that need to be addressed or if I have a question, I have to call and it's really excruciating. The minimum amount of time that I've spent on hold is 30 minutes. When I put in a claim to have an ice maker and wine fridges repaired, I didn't realize that it wasn’t covered. So, they referred the claim to a contractor and I paid the $75 service fee upfront. Then the people called to set up the appointment and I told them what the apparent issue was. The company that they referred didn’t repair wine fridges or freezer. It's a wrong company and they said I had to have AHS send somebody else out. So, I tried to go online to resubmit the request and their website wouldn’t let me do it.

I had to call and the first time, I was on hold for 50 minutes to get things done. When I got through, I was 75% done with the woman on the phone. She got all the information and had my phone number because she verified it, then my cellphone cut out and she never called back. I had to start the process all over the again and go on hold for 30 minutes. That's not fair and it's just something AHS need to work on. She should have called me back. Also, they never credited the service fee that I paid. I looked online and they told me that their records said the assignment was complete. But it wasn’t because nobody ever came out.

I tried to call again and they couldn’t get anything done. I called the company back and asked them to call AHS so, they called but nothing was done. Then next time, I was on hold for an hour to get things taken care of. It's ridiculous and the process was painful. I feel like after a couple of claims, I'm being rooted to hold the line where I just don’t want to even put in the claim. But recently, I had a claim for the pool heater that wasn't firing properly and I had a woman who helped me after I was on hold on the phone. I was trying to request a pool company that I know uses them and for some reason they were on hold with American Home Shield because they’ve been sent out in too many calls. So they try to give the job to other people to be fair. And this woman was really helpful. It's the process of getting through that is frustrating.

Other than that, I've gotten stuff taken care of and for the most part, it's been pretty good. The pool guy who came out was great and I even kept him to do non-covered work. Then when I moved in about a week after, a couple of the air conditioning units stopped working and AHS sent a guy who's very efficient and fixed them. I may have to call them again because I couldn’t fix a garage door myself. But I'll do it online because I don’t want to kill myself. 10 years ago, I had American Home Shield and I was very satisfied with them. I've never had this kind of difficulty last time so maybe they’ve just grown so big and need to hire some more people to man the phone.

When I called for the claim, their rep just told me the name of the outlet and that they would be calling to set up a schedule, and they did that within the same day, Friday, and they came out on Monday because they didn’t work on weekends. The two contractors who came out were great. It was a very short visit. They deduced what the problem was, they solved the problem and moved on. I’d recommend AHS, cautiously. I also had a problem with my dryer. The techs came right away and they had to replace the part on the toilet, and I had to wait for them to do it which is why they’re coming today. It’s the same contractor they always send, and they tell me what's covered for the amount of money that I spend. They’re a very good company and they send out very good workmen.

I only have one problem and I've told American Home Shield about it. When you call, they prefer you do everything online because it’s easier. But I’m a senior citizen and I don’t do that. So when you call that you need a service or a repairman, your wait time is generally about an hour and I resent that. For the amount of money that I’m spending, I don’t want to wait an hour for somebody to answer the phone. I spoke to them about that and the girl said that they were opening a new call center in Phoenix. They have four call centers. This is either gonna be their fourth or their fifth, and their service is gonna be better. I've told them that if it doesn’t get better, I'm changing my company. I'm not gonna pay all that money and wait for somebody to answer the phone for an hour.

We contacted American Home Shield to submit a claim warranty. They were very prompt in coming out. Even though the contractor has limited English proficiency he knew what he was doing and he quickly resolved the problem. He had the line fixed and was in and out of there in an hour. It was a fairly efficient, quick trip from a technician. It was not my typical American Home Shield experience. The other contractors were fairly slow to respond. My dryer that wasn’t working properly so I filed a claim to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, you have to wait for 30, 40 minutes to ever get through to make a request if you can’t deal with them online. I certainly don’t like that aspect of it. But we’ve been with them for 30 years. We’re real estate brokers and we’ve recommended them dozens and dozens of times to our clients. But this last time was very nice. The Patterson people came out, analyzed the problem and they fixed it the next day. So far, their customer service has been fine. But they’re overstretched in terms of people answering phone calls, and I assume that’s why they're trying to force people online.

One time, we had them call out here because we had an instant hot that did not work about four months ago. They sent a guy out, he took pictures and he said, “We’ll get back to you.” Two days later I got a call from them saying they were denying the replacement of our instant hot because it did not have a filter. We bought this house 10 years ago and it’s the same filter we had as far as I know and everything was fine. So, I spent $500 to get a new thing and they had the plumber come out and do the service. I was not really happy about that but they would tell you that if you had to read the fine print, you have to have a filter on your instant hot. It was disappointing but we’ve been with them for 30 years on two different properties so they must be doing something right.

I’ve had two other companies come and tell me that I didn’t need a 3.5 ton. But they insisted that I did and they forced me to take a monetary settlement which is only half the cost of getting a new unit because they pay me what they would pay for one instead of what I have to pay. So, I’m into a year now with no heater up. It's a despicable way to treat a customer. My experiences have been good and bad when I call to submit claims. When I first started with American Home Shield, the people that answered the phones were very rude and very hard to deal with but over the years, they have become much better. My problem was that water stays there and it’s not draining, and it stinks after a couple of days. I first submitted a claim online, and then I phoned them. Apparently, nobody could pick up the phone first of all. You leave the number and somebody will call. So, they called me, they came, they said the problem is fixed. After a couple of days, it wasn’t fixed. I complained again. The problem is still there. I checked it last night, it was not draining properly. I just want to know what to do.

AHS should at least appreciate the business and try to call back, not just an automated system, and just don’t let a third party call us and then ask the problem. They should value our business and our hard-earned money. This is the worst thing I have ever heard of. It's my first experience, but I don’t think I’ll renew my contract with American Home Shield for the next time. I had HMS for the last three years and I had no issues. My friend recommended me to AHS, but I would probably be going back to HMS. Right now, I’m very disappointed.

My AC keeps shutting off every year and it has something to do with the breaker. This year it didn't do it but it did in the past. I called AHS and the breaker was changed. The issue happened again after a year and without even figuring out what was wrong, the technician told me it must be the pests eating the wire and that was not covered. I questioned how they knew about that because they didn't even check it.

With the most recent claim, I came home from vacation and when I went upstairs I found that one of the pods connected to the AC was all iced up. I called in AHS and they sent me some guy. I changed the filter in the summertime but all the guy said was it was the filter and that I didn't change it. I told him I did but he said it looked like it was never changed for centuries. He was lying and didn't want to check it. He didn't want to do extra work. I told the guy it wasn't the filter and that the pipe needed to be fixed as it must have been leaking. I also found out that the rubber covering the pipe had broken down because of the frost.

The guy was very rude and said he was not going to fix any of that because it was cosmetic. He also told me that I was giving him attitude which I wasn't. It was just that he was not even fixing the problem. He almost hung up on me so I called AHS to report him and I was assigned to another company. The other company was better and the other guy taped up that pipe and clearly said the issue was not the filter. But he started selling me Freon and wanted $300. I stopped believing everybody. Also, this is not the first time with these people. Every time technicians come in, they don't want to fix the source of the problem and they just want to give you reasons why they don't want to do it. I've been with AHS for two years now and I can't wait until the contract ends.

Contacted AHS to create an order for our dishwasher (we just purchased a home) during the week of November 13th. Repair person was timely and polite, but indicated that he had attempted to find the same program board for our washer recently with no luck on another call. He stated he would have to report to AHS his findings and that AHS would look for the part. I did not hear from AHS for 4 days, so I decided to contact them. First, my contract is not searchable online. No matter what combination of information I type in, no contract found. This left me the only option of calling. I was on hold for 53 minutes (completely unacceptable) before reaching an agent who could not find my contract based on phone number or address - finally it was able to be located utilizing the contract number. (It’s notable that not even the contract number cannot be used to search when registering for an online account.)

So, she found my contract... Yay. She told me that the status needed to be updated and moved to purchasing. She said, helpfully, that she would call purchasing and then conference me in once she got through... 40 minutes later, she comes back on to give me the purchasing phone number so that I can call myself if I could not wait longer. I waited a few more minutes, then decided to just hang up. That was yesterday. Last night, I received an email stating that my order for work was complete and that if I had any further issues, I could report them through my online account (remember that I could not establish an online account.) This left me in the unenviable position of calling again... Uggh.

This time only 21 minutes from about 9 AM. The agent was helpful and she put me on the account as a contact... I guess I wasn't before. Not sure why the agent yesterday did not do that. So, in spite of my email indicating that my work was complete, today's agent told me that Purchasing would be buying a replacement washer because the parts weren't available for it. But... I need to contact purchasing in order to discuss the replacement. I fear another ridiculous hold time, plus, I'm not sure I'll have the answers for what type of replacement I should get. This has not been a great experience.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for four years. This year I had a water heater replaced. And then I had a pipe that was leaking and was fixed. It's easy to call in a claim instead of going on the computer and doing it. And somebody’s usually here within at least two days. But when the contractors get out here sometimes there’s extra fees and they should explain that in their ad when they advertise them on TV.

They tell me I need to get a text. They let me know who’s going to be coming out then they call right away. They usually wait until it’s Monday through Friday because everything usually happens on the weekends. But the contractors have all been nice. They’re friendly and easy to talk to. I would recommend them. AHS keep in contact with you. They still send me texts telling me that this plumbing company is going to be contacting me and then they do and then they’ll say, “How was your experience with them?” It’s like everyday I hear from them until everything was completed.

My wife misused the washing machine. She did a rug in there that fell apart and clogged up everything. So a guy came out and I thought he might have to replace some things but he just cleaned it out. He did it in about an hour but it took a week for the guy to get here from my initial call to AHS because they didn't consider it as an emergency. They asked me if I needed it right away but it's not like a leaking pipe or a broken pool so a couple of days was not a big deal. The contractors I've seen personally were mostly from Russia. They didn't really know what they're doing and were probably overqualified with what they do. But they've all been very nice and very good. They fixed the problem quickly and efficiently.

I also had a swimming pool problem about a year ago. The filter housing's in two pieces, and the bottom half broke. The rep had to buy both pieces, but he could only give me the bottom piece. I thought that was stupid because the top piece was going to break next. It just seemed like they get a little cheap on what they qualify for repair sometimes, but that's probably part of their business plan. My only major complaint is that the deductible's too high. Even higher than other companies but that's what I signed on for.
