I've used American Home Shield a couple of times and the technicians do a super good job. I asked questions when I don’t know something but I tell them that if I get in the way, to tell me to quit. Once, I had a leak on the tank and we noticed the water on a weekend so I called American Home Shield and they responded Monday afternoon. If I had anything to worry about, it was the amount of time it took to notify them, for them to show up and for them to get it fixed. The good news for me was the tank kept being refilled so I kept utilizing everything. Plus, they did a professional job and overall, I'm satisfied.

I feel like my appliance was a little cheaper and was professionally installed. However, I don't know the rules that American Home Shield has with their contractors and I don't know how to make that better and get the best as a consumer. I also don’t know if I want to pay upfront if I make a service call. I've only had to pay the technician that gets here so I don't know at what direction the company is going.

I also didn’t like how they treated me on a previous water heater claim. The guy came out and said, “Oh, did you know you're in 98 psi here? We can't use your warranty. Thank you.” If you don’t have your water below 80 psi, your warranty is void and I never knew that. When my wife and I went to the store, got everything we needed and put it back, we didn’t understand the code and because I didn’t realize that my hot water heater was out of Code Compliance, I was out $390. Everything worked out though. We never had a thing and my hot water heater gave up after eight years which is the average life here in San Antonio, apparently because of the mineral content. It's the code and unfortunately, American Home Shield doesn’t cover that. I've used other warranties and with Home Warranty of America, if you were out of Code Compliance, they would cover that.

A few years ago, American Home Shield forgot to let me know that my policy was expiring and we went a couple of months without service. But they were able to reinstate me and that was the biggest problem I've had which happened four years ago. I've recommended them and I would say to others to get them. They're really good. I recently filed a claim with them for the refrigerator in my rental property in Florida. I did it online and it was easy. I don’t call them anymore because there's usually quite a long wait. American Home Shield has done well but when the contractors came out, they misdiagnosed the problem on the refrigerator and they didn’t put the right part in. Then they took a long time to come back out and put the right part in so my tenants were frustrated with them all for that. They also told me to ask American Home Shield not to have this company come out anymore.

We had a few issues with the house and one of them was when our AC broke down. They were able to call me three days after I put the claim in and everything was fixed in less than five days. They had completely changed our AC and everything was working fine. I usually call for my claims but the last one with our home heater, I did that online. About 10 minutes later, I received an email that my case was already referred to a company. An hour or two later the lady called me and said they're coming the following day. They’ve been quick and all the repairs were done outside so they didn't have to go into the house and disrupt anything. Overall, they’re awesome and very professional.

I thought my garage door had snapped a chain so I had someone come out to check it. But it was just in safety mode which was what is was supposed to do to keep it from breaking and the contractor didn't have to do anything. He reset it and everything's fine now. He was also very polite and nice, and he said that if I had any other problems, we can call him back.

In my experience, the warranty has been a good deal for me to have the security that if I call American Home Shield, they would send someone out to take care of the issue. The previous times, I have been able to set the claim up online. But this last time, for some reason, they were having some issues with their online thing. But I was able to speak to someone and set it up by calling and the wait was just a few minutes. The warranty also offers me a little comfort in knowing that I can have someone come and fix an issue for a little bit of money, not a big fee.

My experience with American Home Shield was really good. I called and got an answer without having to wait very long. Then the contractor came out the next day and was very nice. He took care of the issue and repaired my water heater. That was the first time I’ve had to use the warranty since I’ve been paying it and it was definitely worth having the service and paying the monthly fee as opposed to having to come up with a lot of money for a new water heater.

I’ve filed a claim for the washing machine about a month ago, and the reps recorded from the initial report what was going on with it and they set up the appointment. We were doing it online, going back and forth with dates and they kept canceling out something, but we got that all resolved. There was also a bit of a confusion on how the claim process worked because when I called the original maintenance person and he came out, he was kind of cryptic about what he was doing, how he was going to do it and what had transpired. He didn’t tell me those things and he said, “Well, I think this is covered but I'm not sure.” But everything worked out fine. The replacement part came in the mail and then he came and installed it free of any charge. I think highly of American Home Shield and I've recommended them to another house that I'm selling.

AHS came out for the clogged sink in our master bathroom. It had been going on for a while and then it got worse. They had to come out a second time since it wasn’t fixed, but since then, it’s been fine. It took them seven days to get it fixed completely. If we submit a claim online, it’s super easy. But one of my biggest complaints about the company is that when I try to call, I'm on hold for 30 minutes at least and then end up submitting online. They could have a better customer service. Nevertheless, the people I talk to are usually friendly. There was one contractor that I was very unhappy with and they tried to reschedule me with them again which was one of the reasons I had to call. Other than that, the other contractors had been good.

There have been about two contractors of American Home Shield that were less than satisfactory but their contractors have been excellent in general. Our last service call was regarding our gas water heater and they resolved the issue partially. They are to come back to extend the flue and do something with the pilot light but we've been away from our home there so they haven’t been able to visit and finish that project. Nevertheless, we recommend the program to anybody that gets involved in a real estate transaction. We're very happy with American Home Shield and intend to renew our current policy with them whenever it expires.

Their contractor attempted to repair it twice but never to got the problem fixed so AHS decided to replace the unit. The whole process took three months and was handled well. A lesser model was initially suggested but my wife pointed out that the one being replaced had particular features. AHS agreed and they stepped up. The dishwasher is not the same brand but it has the same features. The installer that came out and put it in was a really nice guy too.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the plumbing. The garbage disposal leaked and I did the claim online. Someone’s company was contacted and they did an excellent job. The contractor came in and did what he could to fix it but in the end, he decided it was easier to replace because the parts inside were rusty and it would probably start leaking again. So, I appreciate their honesty on that.

I have submitted the last couple of claims online because of the wait time. It's entirely too long on the phone. But I’ve had good interactions with their reps and they're usually helpful. About a year ago, I had a plumbing stoppage issue and they sent it out to a company. I didn't hear back from the contractor and when I finally heard back from them, they gave me about a five-days out. I called American Home Shield and let them know that although the sewage went backing up into the house, it was backing up into the side of my house, which I share a wall with my neighbor. The rep understood that and she called the contractor up but didn't have another date so she found me someone that came out the next day. This turned into a sanitation issue at that point. She understood and I appreciated that.

American Home Shield has been good. However, they no longer cover water softeners and though I gave some thought of dropping them because of that, I didn't want to risk losing that good service just for one item. Luckily, I'm new at this point so I could give it some good years out of it. Everything else is all positive. I’ve been using American Home Shield since my house was built. I would tell my friends it's definitely worth it. I know of at least five or six of my friends that are with American Home Shield now.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for five years now and the last experience we had was an issue with the air conditioner unit upstairs in the attic. The provider had to go over to my house five times for different reasons such as to add Freon, to order and install parts and double check the status of the working unit with them. Comfort First was the heating company and American Home Shield was monitoring the progress and the status of the work order the whole time. It was a positive experience.

The technician who went to my house several times and the lady who works at the main office were very friendly. That lady was able to give me updates and where I was on the service request list, their priorities, the status of the parts and when is the technician was going to be in my house. They were very reliable and the overall experience was outstanding. I recommend American Home Shield to my friends or any person that I know who needs their services.

We have been with AHS for several years. Three weeks ago our hot water heater was not providing hot water. We contacted AHS for service and they sent a plumber out to assess the problem and repair it. A day after the hot water heater was repaired, we again had no hot water. To make a long story short, AHS sent the plumbers out 4 separate times to repair the problem, twice in one day. Still no hot water. AHS then suggested it may be an electrical issue. An electrician was sent to our home and the electrician confirmed there were no electrical issues.

We have been without hot water for 3 weeks and counting and trying to get a customer service rep on the phone is at best an hour wait. We have family coming for the holidays and not having hot water is an embarrassment and a huge inconvenience. If the plumber cannot repair the heater, it should be replaced, but that seems like the last thing AHS is willing to do. We are still trying to get this issue resolved with AHS but it has been a battle. We hope AHS does the right thing and replace the hot water heater so that our family can enjoy the holidays.

We recently had a hot water heater claim with AHS. Their site was very user-friendly and I submitted the claim easily online. The contractor that came out did a good job. They were polite, friendly and very nice. The guy knew what they were doing and the entire installation process was almost seamless. However, it took them about a day and a half by the time they got the fitting done. They had to order the hot water heater then get approval from AHS and took a couple of days to get all that done. AHS charged us $75 just to get somebody out and $280 for replacing the hot water heater and it’s too expensive.

I didn't get anything in writing about the breakdown of how much was the labor, the cost of the hot water heater and why I'm paying the contractor another $280 that AHS won't cover. I have to pay $400 to $600 a year for the insurance and then it ended up costing me more than the benefit I can get out of the warranty. I would never ever renew my contract with them.

A faucet in our shower goes hot so we put the claim with American Home Shield for repair. I did it online and it was easy. I had to call the first time that the person came. He replaced the faucet but I think it was not totally repaired. It was still dripping because the faucet does not completely close. So we called in for a second one and at that time he asked me to wait for over two weeks to see if he could bring us stuff by himself but he did not. That’s why we called once more and that was when he fixed it. He replaced whatever was initially put and he fixed the problem for us. I've been an American Home Shield customer for about more than 10 years now and I know for older homes it is only somewhat good because they don’t cover everything. If something breaks it's okay but if it's for replacement it is not that great.

My slide-in range wasn't dependable. Sometimes I would turn it on and it would work and sometimes I would turn it off and it would go off and tell me that there was an error and F3 or F2 would flash on. I called American Home Shield and it was very difficult to get a hold of them, which was a bit frustrating. When I first got on and made the claim, that wasn't so long, but sometimes I've waited for an hour. They told me they would replace it with one similar to my stove, a slide-in GE stove, so I looked in three different stores here in Greenville trying to see what that stove looked like, but none of the stores carried it. All I could do was get a picture of it and the measurements. I checked my measurements on my stove and on the printout that I got on the one that they would replace it with, and they were the same. I called them back and told them that I would accept that.

When the stove came, it wasn’t even delivered by an installation place for stoves but by two men on a truck. They were going to slide it in and hook it up but it wouldn’t fit, so I called American Home Shield and they said it was a modification problem and that was my problem. About a fourth of an inch on either side of my Frigidaire went on top of the quartz countertop while the GE slid in beside the quartz, so I had to pay $300 to get my quartz countertop cut down to fit the GE that they sent me. If I send it back, it was $200 or $300 restocking fee and I still didn’t have a range. After I got the quartz cut down, it was a terrible mess, and they vacuumed it as they went but it was a two-day clean-up. Then, the plug on the new stove stuck out so far that the stove still would not go back in. I had to have an electrician come and move the box from the side down behind. It was unbelievable.

I’m not really pleased with American Home Shield at this point. It seems to me that sometimes, they’re a bit hard, and I just got my new bill telling me that my payment for next year, if I want to keep them, has gone up again. I'm thinking, "Is it really worth it or not?" They did give me a new range but it really would have been nice to send somebody to install the range that knew more about what they were doing than just bring them in and plunk it down and say, “Oops!”

I have had so much trouble with the air conditioner as well. They sent out people to take care of it and I got it repaired, but the last two repairs have been pretty expensive. They have sent a different company every time so there is no consistency in getting anything taken care of. I have other friends who say the same thing about American Home Shield. I finally refused one company to have them come again because I did not really feel safe with their coming but I had to pay another $75 service fee. We have had good experiences with American Home Shield as well, but when you’re not dealing with the same person or the same unit, it’s very difficult.

American Home Shield needs to know how they can serve because we pay a hefty fee every year and some years we don’t use anything at all, so they’re making money off of us. We have had them on a home that we had in Greenville back in 1969 until we sold it in 87. When we came back to Greenville and owned a home, we registered with them again so we’ve had with them since 2002 or 2003 in this house. Also, they don’t have enough people to answer the phone.

When I finally got a hold of agents, they were very kind and very willing to take time and listen to me, which may be the problem why they have such a volume of calls. Maybe they’re just so kind at listening to your request and trying to get information to make a good decision on what you’re doing because you’re never seeing anything and you’re going just by what they tell you. But if they could make it so you didn’t have to sit with your cellphone for an hour and wait for them to answer, it would be great.

The contractors have also always been very polite and right on top of things. We love American Home Shield and we won't ever be without them. The warranty is extremely valuable especially when you're retired like we are but it is for anybody whether you're retired or not. When we were in our 30s, we came home from work one day and the kids had put something in the microwave and blown it up. And our television, our washing machine and something on the car went out in one day. So that was an expensive day. Thank God our tax return showed up in the middle of that day so we replaced some items and the entire tax return went. Luckily, it was a hefty tax return. But imagine if we had American Home Shield. When the second guy came, he said it needed a thermocoupling. He took care of it and it’s been working fine. However, American Home Shield tried to charge me again. When I called, they said it was going to be cleared up, but I got an email saying that I’m still behind in the payment.

When I had an incident with my oven, it was cleared at once. Somebody came out and they made what was wrong clear. I’ve called on the refrigerator, the washer, the dryer, the air conditioner, and the furnace. Some of the stuff was minor. Most of the times, when the guys come out, they’d say, “Somebody will get in contact with you within a day or two.” So on the third day, if I haven’t heard anything, I go online and then it’s like, “The job is complete.”

The guy who came about the oven came with somebody else and he didn’t look like he knew what he was doing. He told me that if it was the hands that were broken, they couldn’t repair it. He took the door off and for almost three months, I didn’t have an oven. Since he took the door off, I didn't mess with anything because then, somebody could come in and say, “Well, you messed it up by doing this.” It was our anniversary and my wife was upset that we didn't have an oven. American Home Shield should have their own inspectors, but nevertheless, I'm mostly satisfied. I had issues but they were resolved and I just renewed their services last month. The guys are nice, too.

The other time was when the contractor thought the AC had a leak in the coil and he put some Freon in it then it worked fine after he left. Normally, we pay the serviceman but AHS changed that. I got a letter in the mail telling me I owed $75 for the service fee. I got all that settled and I called probably 50 times to get that straightened up but it was almost impossible to get a hold of somebody so I gave up. The reps are fine when I talk to them, but I have to wait about an hour or so before somebody from American Home Shield would answer me. Last time, the contractor came early and he was professional. He got the stuff that he took off, the leak was fixed, and the performance was better than before. I’ve been with American Home Shield for over 20 years now and they are good. I’m happy with them. Whatever your contract is, they live up to it.

I've done the past couple of claim submissions with AHS online because it's easier since I have a little one. Also, it's been late and it's just quicker for me to just sign in and fill up the form. Then usually the next day, I'd get a call from someone. My dishwasher wasn't draining any water on the bottom. So, the contractor came as quick as possible because it was around the holiday. They gave us a 10 AM to 2 PM time frame and they came around 11:30. They were professional and took probably 20 minutes or so. They did a fine job and my dishwasher's working since then. The same company came before to fix our dryer.

I have good interaction with the reps and the technicians sent out are very professional. However, I didn’t like that I got a screwed up bill payment. We always give our credit card on the telephone. Then we received a notice that American Home Shield hadn’t received a $150 from us, although my husband took care of it right away. Nonetheless, I absolutely recommend them.

I had to wait more than 30 minutes on the phone but the experience was fine when I got a rep. And the contractor who came was perfect. Though, they had a problem and had to come back. And then it was taken care of with no problem the next day. We’ve kept American Home Shield because it has been beneficial and it's worth the money. Recently, the furnace broke so I put in the request online and that worked fine. The company that came out had really great customer service and they fixed everything right away. They were the same company that came last year when it broke, too. I have referred people to AHS and I said it's great to have, especially for people who don't have a lot of money in the bank for when something does break down.

Our furnace was blowing cold air so my wife called American Home Shield to put up a claim. That was a Thursday and it was starting to get cold up here in Minnesota. Someone got our claim, but they couldn’t service our area in Saint Paul. So, we were on the phone quite a lot on Friday trying to figure out what we can do and each time I was on hold for over an hour. It was a little ridiculous that I had to be on the phone for that long. Eventually, someone came out on Monday and it took him less than an hour to fix the furnace. He did a good job but won't be continuing with AHS next year. Most of our appliances are new, so I don’t think that we'd need it.

He was the owner of the company and he arrived at 8:15, replaced the garbage disposal and was gone by 9:00 AM. Now, the garbage disposal works fine.

We moved in our house in February and we like the American Home Shield warranty on it. We used it three times mainly for little plumbing leaks. I always call in to submit claims since speaking to someone makes me feel it’s getting me handled. I would call first thing in the morning otherwise, there would be a really long wait time. If the wait time was more than 15 minutes, I would call back. We have a rep from AHS that comes in periodically. The contractors were super, and they fixed the leaks and tightened a port that was loose. And we were not just looking for fixing those, but we were also looking for little things that they might be coming back for. They were very thorough, cordial and professional.

AHS is a nice security blanket. When you use the warranty, you’ll tend to renew it. I enjoyed having it in my own house. It’s a little bit of an expense up front, but it’s worth the insurance. I just renewed them last month and I will renew again next year. I had recommended them to my clients, too. They use it and go happily with it on the sales contract and when they have been working, they renew it.

The garbage disposal would not turn on and because of my work, I kept forgetting to file a claim. When my father came home and complained about it, I finally filed the claim with AHS online. I've had the service for about a year and now it's getting a bit easier when I need to go in and file a claim. I like the option where I can pay the deductible up front. I used to pay at the time of service. And for one claim, I had to pay at the time of filing. With the latest time, I had a choice of whether to pay it at the time of filing or at the time of service. One time, though, I was frustrated because I was on hold for nearly an hour to talk to somebody and could not get through to ask a question. After that, I try to avoid calling them because of the long wait times.

The contractor who came out most recently was really great. I was impressed that when they came, they did a more thorough inspection and realized that even though they got it to work, it was leaking. So, once they traced it, they replaced the garbage disposal. They realized that there were some other issues that were outside the scope of the warranty or what they do. They educated me that the sink wasn't properly mounted and it's something that I want to look into having taken care of sooner rather than later. There was a little cranky thing in order to get it started and I didn't have that and they gave me an extra that they had that would fit. Their service was the best of any of the contractors that I have had out from AHS.

I'm satisfied at the moment but I would not recommend them to somebody else at this point, though, because I was getting really dissatisfied with the service level especially with the customer service wait times. And when I finally got through one time on a question for clarification, the rep was dismissive of me on answering questions. Also, before, their contractors were just coming out and doing the bare minimum in order to move on instead of making sure that everything was resolved so that it would not be a problem again.

We had a problem with the sump pump in the house. I called American Home Shield and set up for someone to come out. A technician came out and he said that he couldn't look at or service the pump. It was evident that it was having some kind of issue but because he can hear it actually working, he couldn't service it. They left and the same problem continued to happen. We called back American Home Shield to see if we can get a service. They sent out the same group and they picked it up on American Home Shield’s end but they never picked it up to come into our side. I couldn't get in contact with them directly so I had to send a message through their call center. I asked them to make sure to tell American Home Shield that they are not going to take the job. They got the message and they went ahead and canceled it out with American Home Shield.

The other group came out and they had the same process. They looked at the pump and they ended getting the injector. They looked up the injector and I could see that there was obviously an issue with it. But it comes on occasionally so it was okay. Then they left and we put in a call again. The technician who came out was absolutely awesome. He was very efficient and he gave some advice. He looked at it and realized what was going on. They worked on it quickly and without delays. They were very helpful and I really appreciated them. My experience with American Home Shield is always favorably pleasant and I recommend them. This is the first I've ever had an issue with American Home Shield and even though it was frustrating for me and my wife, I recognized that we don't have a problem often and American Home Shield really does take care of us.

And he wasn’t able to fix the dishwasher because it was outdated, but he gave me the option as to what would happen and how to get my dishwasher back from the claim. But I still haven't heard anything from American Home Shield as far as the payback. Before that, they used to give me money ahead of time to get the part, which I think was easier. Once they set up that appointment, they show up typically on time. If they're running 30 minutes late, they give us a heads up or so. They come and get to do the work. Once the work is all done, they let us know. They show my husband what the issue is before leaving so we know what's wrong. The washer is working better than it worked before, which is great. The process with American Home Shield is fast and painless. I don't think much about the money coming out because I know that if something happens, it will be taken care of right away.

I've been an American Home Shield customer for 10 years now. It came as the home warranty for our first house for two years and then we picked it up for another few years. We bought another house and I had it consistently for the last five years. Our cooling stopped working recently so we filed a claim with AHS through the website via my mobile phone and entered the information that they asked for. Most recently, when you file a claim, they allow you to pay right then. So, I don't have to write a check or give my card to the contractor that comes up to the house and that was a good change.

A guy then came out and we troubleshoot it. We replaced the compressor starter, the charge starter, and it was fixed. He took some measurements and see if the temperature drops. He checked it and made sure it was cooling. My issues are always on heat and air so I’ve had the most contact with Myers and they've always been on time. When they are running late, they'd call me at least an hour ahead of time saying that they won't make the appointment. They’d give me a new time and keep me in the loop. And when they're there, they're clean if they're working inside the house. They make sure that their shoes are clean and they put the little walk things on. I really appreciate that especially when they're coming in and out of the house, checking the side and going upstairs, checking the thermostat. They're mindful of everyone's property.

But they had a situation where they didn't have a part or they had to come back another day. On the last 10 years with them, they had a situation where they didn't fix a problem or what they thought was fixed and I have to call them back out. But they’re usually prompt and they find the issue. I've recommended AHS to my mother as well as my aunt.

The contractors let me know that they’re coming and they came on time. However, it is difficult to start the paperwork if you don’t use a computer. Plus, the AHS website is not user-friendly. When I paid the $75 service charge for the dishwasher, they said the work was completed which I knew was not the case because they ordered the part. There was no place on their website to make a comment that the work was not yet complete. In this age, AHS needs to be a little more computer-savvy and have easy access for people in all forms.

Also, the rep I spoke to on the phone was professional but they have an extremely long hold time. I do most of my claims on the phone, and it was impossible to get a hold of them. AHS needs to get some more people on the phone. At one time, the hold time was more than one hour so I hung up. I felt I needed to look at some other companies at that point.

The second one I did, I had to pay upfront before somebody came out. The technician that came was professional and knowledgeable. He was looking for the serial number and he knew where to look. He looked into the problem, took a picture of it and two weeks after, they told me that they could not locate the parts needed for it to be fixed. I’ve been calling all of the September and October, and even reached out to their Facebook page and it said someone from their social media department would contact me but nobody did. My ice-maker's still not working and that is an issue.

Another claim that I had was for my stove. The oven was not working and the switch to turn it off was broken. I could not get through to anybody so, I did it through their website which was horrible. My stove was the older type so, the brand does not exist anymore and there were no parts for it. But I was told they'd replace it and they sent me a selection for the replacement. I wouldn’t be dissatisfied if we were able to actively communicate. But they could improve on checking the quality of the contractors that they send out. The guy came in and kept on looking at the appliance, going back to his car and looking on his computer then coming back in. First he said that the machine was working with a problem then he was going back to order this gigantic part. I called the company a week later asking if they had ordered the part and when they thought the part was going to get there. But the lady said the case was closed because the contractor couldn't find nothing wrong with the machine.

I wasted almost two weeks waiting for a part that was never ordered. These warranty companies probably take bids from these contractors and that contractor probably gave them a bid they couldn't refuse. But they need to work with people who know what they're doing rather than someone who's going to charge them the least amount of money.

We had to call AHS back and get a second contractor out. We also alerted them that the first guy has 20 Yelp reviews and they were all bad. AHS was very helpful and they agreed to send a second guy out. The new company called me the same day and told me they were going to send the guy the next day. I got a call before he came and they gave me an estimate of the time he was coming. He came in, knew about the machine and was right on it. He figured out what the problem was and got it fixed. There was no part ordering needed and he was wonderful.

We had someone come out to work on the plumbing. He did a great job but the day after he left, I noticed that our water heater wasn’t producing hot water the same rate it had the day before he worked nearby. He had turned off the main water. So he came back out and found there was a lot of sediments in the filter and it was a result of his work. If there wasn’t enough water getting in, the tank’s heater could have burned out and would've led to bigger problems. They took care of the problem and it was nice that it didn’t cost anything.

The only negative about my experience was I was on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes on hold before someone ever picked up the phone and spoke with me. And it was the third day because I tried two other times when I spent about half an hour each day before, hoping to get a hold of someone but I just couldn’t. I had to get through because the only way to get the same company to come back out to deal with the problem that I didn’t want to have to pay another $75 for was to actually wait to speak to someone. If I had done it through the website, I wasn’t guaranteed to get the same company.

I’ve had plumbers come out a couple of years ago when we had a clog. A couple days later, the clog was there again. The plumbers gave us a 60-day warranty on the work so I called them directly. The owner said they won't get paid if they just come back out. So I had to go back and call American Home Shield. My hands were tied because the owner of the company would not send his technicians back out. Whoever I spoke with from AHS was very supportive and said, “If I were in the same position, I would not want to pay for another $75 to fix the problem that didn’t exist the day before he got there.”

We were making a list at one point of the companies that we didn’t want to work with anymore. Maybe it’s just this area of Los Angeles but some contractors work for a specific company so they’re not in-house. A lot of times it's hard to understand the accent, whether it’s Russian or Eastern European. They are very good at working with machines but not great at working with people. I’ve been online and have looked up other competitors of AHS. It seems like everybody’s got their negatives. So it's almost better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.

Don't make the mistake of purchasing a home warranty with AHS. To start, you are on hold for 1-2 HOURS each and every time you have to call them about a claim. Then they never have any answers and have to ask someone else while you wait on hold AGAIN. This last time our phone call was "disconnected" but I would be willing to bet we were hung up on because we requested to speak with a supervisor. They constantly say things to appease you but never follow through with it. For example: I'm going to forward your claim to dispatch and they will get a hold of you in 48 hours.

THEY NEVER CALL BACK. But none of this is the worst of it. We put in a claim OVER A MONTH AGO because our refrigerator went out. And we are still waiting for it to get fixed. WE HAVEN'T HAD A WORKING FRIDGE IN OVER A MONTH. At this point our refrigerator is supposed to be fixed on Dec. 15th. I imagine it's going to be pushed out past that date AGAIN and AHS will do nothing for us AGAIN and tell us we need to wait longer. Update: fridge is still not fixed and AHS is doing nothing. They tell us to wait. Imagine that. So now we're expected to wait another 15 days. This is outrageous.

I have had American Home Shield most of the time since the 1980's and have always been satisfied until now. Maybe this company has gone downhill. My natural gas furnace quit and I called AHS who sent a contractor to fix it. The contractor said I needed a new furnace. Checking online for a Goodman GDS808004BN the list price is $650 plus installation. Supposedly, AHS paid for the furnace, disposal of old, and installation, but not the modifications required since the furnace was physically a different size versus the old furnace (2002 model and different brand). I expected AHS to cover the cost of replacement including any modifications required due to different size furnace unit, but I ended up paying $1850 so what was the point in having AHS. I paid them nearly $600 a year for the warranty for years. They should have paid for the furnace and installation minus my $100 deductible.

Instead I paid $1750 over the deductible. Seems like I maybe could have found my own contractor for that price. Supposedly the $1750 was to bring the new furnace up to code, but looking at the individual costs, they were mostly sheet metal due to the different size furnace, these would have to be replaced as part of the installation so why did AHS not cover those costs? The old furnace was a 2002 Litton and the city standard is the 2009 building code. The new furnace is only 80% efficient but the top of the line Goodman is 97% efficient. Total labor time for actual replacement was 2 and a half hours. I am not happy with American Home Shield. The air conditioner below the furnace and the filters and vents above were untouched except for the joints between them. By the way, it was nearly 2 weeks without heat in December.

The provider they sent to my home did a great job, However, this is my first time filing a claim with AHS. I was very disappointed in the 2 day scheduling time for a furnace repair in the middle of winter, especially given that I was able to contact several local companies on my own that were able to come out the same day. I called AHS multiple times to try to speak with someone about getting another provider assigned and was on hold for more than 35 minutes each time I called. I was never able to speak with someone at AHS and have already began looking for another home warranty company.

In August American Home Shield (AHS) inform me to chose a refrigerator which AHS provided as replacement for the old one. The only brand for me was GE which was too deep for my kitchen space. Since AHS did not offer me any other option I had to pick up one. When GE delivery truck came to my house. The movers measured the kitchen door, and told us that the kitchen door was too narrow for the fridge to go through by 1/2 inch. They did not move the fridge down to the ground or into the house, took the fridge and left. In Sept. AHS staff told me to order a fridge on my own, price not exceeding $854.8. The staff also told me that if the movers moved the GE fridge into my house but could not fit into space, then took it away.

GE could charge me restock fees $251.5. But if they did not move the fridge down, the restock fees should be $98. Without fridge for 2 month in summer, in Oct. we bought a fridge for $711.74. But in Dec. AHS only gave me a check $460.24, (711.74-251.5=460.24). This is a rip off. Why AHS did not offer me to buy my own fridge at the beginning with? Force me to pick up a GE fridge. The GE movers even did not move the fridge down from the truck, still charged me restock fees $251.5. They did not ask my opinion whether to leave the GE fridge for the house or not. They just took it away. AHS gave poor service. No customer should be treated like this. It is a total rip off.

There was water coming out of the refrigerator. The technician fixed the sealer on the doors, and after that, he recommended that we change the filter, which we did. We started trying to use the ice maker but it wasn't working. We realized that it was broken and it had to be replaced so they did. The contractor that was sent was clean and he explained what he changed at the end. He fixed everything really well. American Home Shield is very recommended.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield the same day the issue has started and their contractor came in and repaired it. I submitted the claim online and it wasn’t difficult at all.Their website is good and it’s easy to navigate. The contractor who came out was very matter-of-fact; got right down to business and took care of what he had to take care of. However, when they come they should come prepared to cover their shoes or take their shoes off. Customers shouldn’t have to deal with explaining or telling them, “You don’t come in to someone’s house and walk to their home with your shoes.”

I had several plumbing issues around the house. Individually, it was small, except for when the water heater started leaking. And so I monitored that for a little while. We went out there and saw that there's always a little bit of water at the top. I then noticed an increasing amount of rust on the water heater, which led me to believe it was nearing the end of its useful life and was about to fail.

So I called American Home Shield and asked if I get charged per thing that needs to be repaired. What their representative said was if it's all plumbing matters, then it would be one. So I told him I got several to report and then I filed the claim. Although I had excellent interaction with their customer service, there's been one slight problem in the end.

One issue that we have had is that the original contractor selected to come out wasn't really great. They didn't call within 24 hours they said they were going to call. I gave them 48 and at the end of 48 hours, I called them. Then they set an appointment but then missed the window. I had given them a two-hour window to get here. They told me they would be here in 10 minutes, but an hour and a half later, nobody came. I told them I couldn't keep that day's appointment once they had missed the window.

That precipitated a call from American Home Shield. They asked if I would like them to reschedule or have a new contractor. At that point, I felt it would be more comfortable having a new contractor. So I had a new contractor come out and everything went great. They had to visit me twice though because they still had to order the water heater.

The lingering issue was that I continually got emails from American Home Shield saying I had an outstanding balance of $75 service call fee. I knew that wasn't the case since I had paid the $75 service call fee when I originally made the order. However, after 45 minutes on hold, I finally got to talk to somebody who said that the problem is that $75 had been applied to the first contractor who ended up not doing the work. And that they needed to do something on their end on their reporting. I was also told that it was to come out upon that first contractor to close it out or report that they did not end up completing it, that it was reassigned, and that would free up the $75 to be applied to the second contractor.

The representative said they got it fixed, but then, the next week, I got another email saying I'm past due. So after the second one, I got a little upset and I had my wife spend another hour on a Saturday getting in touch with American Home Shield, who again said it was being resolved. I just wanted the emails to stop saying that I was past due on my bill because that doesn't make anybody very comfortable. And so far I haven't gotten other emails saying I'm past due or anything like that.

I'm sure this error comes up with home warranty companies where there's some dissatisfaction with the first guy. In fact, the other major claim that I had to make with the home warranty, the exact thing happened. We ended up having a guy who was so incompetent. He told us that I had a faulty carbon monoxide detector. Meanwhile, it goes off for the third time. And we called the fire department and they told us to get out of our house because our carbon monoxide detector's going off.

So we had to call a second HVAC guy out and he took one look at the heat exchanger and said that our manifold was totally rusted out and leaking gas furnace exhaust back into our house. The last guy didn't see that. He just said that he would have had to take the whole thing apart after looking at it with a flashlight. So it's probably pretty common that customers request a different contractor than the original one assigned. And the problem that seems to have happened is that American Home Shield wasn't able to unilaterally on their side - solve whatever billing issue they had to pull the $75 service call fee from being applied to the first contractor and make it apply to the second contractor.

It's not that bad but the annoying part was that there was no speedy way to contact American Home Shield's billing department. I had to wait in the same on hold queue as anybody trying to call and make a claim. And you would think that maybe there would be a fast lane for people trying to give them money or straighten that billing issue but there wasn't. Still, it doesn't affect my perception of them, though I feel worst for my wife who had to spend an hour on a Saturday. And there's no way I will consider any other home warranty company other than American Home Shield for my personal home, and I'm saying this as a real estate agent. It's not to say there aren't any other good ones but American Home Shield has done very good so we're very happy with them.

I love American Home Shield. They're great. My contract just expired and I'm renewing it right now on one of my houses. They replaced my air conditioning unit last July. When I switched to heat, I couldn’t get it to work. So I went online and had them send someone out. They adjusted the thermostat and replaced it. It was great. I've had the warranty for four years in this house since I moved here and all the contractors have been wonderful and very respectful. They’re always on time, they call ahead and they're very clean, too.

However, I wish that they could have the same contractors come out for similar issues, like the ones who are associated to our house because they probably would have been able to figure out the problem with the thermostat way quicker if they were the same ones that installed the unit. It just makes more sense to me. It doesn’t bother me but I think for them it would make it more timely. They're paying the extra time it takes to figure out what’s wrong. I just pay $75 no matter how many times they come out. But for them, they have to figure out the problem. Even so, I've really enjoyed it. They’re very prompt and the response is quick. I love the online website. I just go online in the morning and tell my problem. I hear back right away. I’m very pleased and definitely thrilled.

I’ve had American Home Shield for 15 years now, and I’m possibly quitting them. I called them to get the back wall fixed because they came loose. The guy was able to snap everything back in place, but the door frame was cracked above where the handle is. When I told the lady on the phone that I was thinking of quitting since my membership ends this month, she said that she would make sure that everything gets fixed, and she got the guy to come over. He said that the handle is no longer available. So, they would have to replace them. But I’ve been waiting for two weeks and I didn’t hear from anybody. Either the company or AHS should get a hold of me and at least tell me if they would not do it.

We’ve also had other problems like we had on a microwave once. We paid the $75 out and the guy came. But he couldn’t fix it because the model number had worn off on the side of the microwave. We had the book with the box number, as well as the receipt, but the guy ended up taking our $75 and we had to go out and buy a new one because he couldn’t touch it. Other than that, we also had an issue with the dishwasher, and at least, it’s working now. It’s 12 years old, which is good for a dishwasher, so I was not surprised that it didn’t get replaced.

They got it done and my heater is working great. One has to be careful with what's covered. They'll always try to repair even when replacing makes more sense. One needs to weigh their options and do what makes sense. For us, we're in a home we just bought. Then I put it on the internet, but I didn't hear back from them. I called again, and when I got somebody, it went fine and they scheduled our plumbing right away. I liked that the contractor they sent explained everything. He had all the knowledge and I never realized that there's a plumbing education they had to go through to understand if there are people who can take care of an issue. And because I was asking questions, and everything lined up to the rationale why the smell wasn’t consistent in coming in and out, he said to me that they could do more work, but it's not under warranty.

In addition, he was very courteous and honest which I appreciated. I also liked that even though Dankel, the contractor company, was small and local, they sent messages to keep me informed of everything in that window of time. Though it wasn't in-person, the notification was really nice and I was really happy with it. Dankel was right on, but AHS could’ve been better.

American Home Shield worked really well. The lady who helped me was great. She took the time to go through all the aspect that needed to define someone to help me on that same day. I've had a lot of experience with them but it was always three or four days that I've had to wait, but she made certain that she could get someone to head out the same day for me. However, when filing a claim over the phone, I might get on the line and it might take me 30 to 45 minutes for someone to actually come on the line to talk to me. I have had people come as fast as five minutes then tell me, "Wait a minute, let me transfer you this next line." Then I get to that line to be told, "Let me transfer you to that line." And when I get to someone, they hung up. And I have to call right back and then my wait time is 25 to 45 minutes again.

But the last technician who was here was pretty good. He did his work and informed me on what he was doing and what it looked like. But someone would just come in and look at the issue. They'd say there was a little something and they'd fix it, and then, I had to call them right back. And they got the same thing happening over again. And right back when I have to call them, I get American Home Shield to call them back. I told one of the ladies that I didn't want that company to come back. They were coming back over and over to do the same thing. American Home Shield should have more than one or two contractors that I could get some in the area that I'm in. The one that they recommended in my city was 30 or 45 minutes away. Other than these, American Home Shield has been great about doing what they say they cover. I have recommended them to someone and they went with them this year.

I went to California on a business trip and when I came back my house was flooded. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's automated system and I didn’t like that their wait times were extremely long. We have to work and nobody has time to be waiting for two hours on the phone. If you get American Home Shield on the phone after two hours and you forgot to ask them on another question, that’s going to be another two hours of wait. They didn’t even have a callback option, which is the worst, and when I spoke to somebody, I was told they were understaffed.

I told them about my house being flooded and that they had to take everything to mitigate. I had to have all these fans in my house to dry up all the water so the toilet had to be removed. But they said I have to put the toilet back on in order for their contractor to come out. But if I was doing mitigation services and I put the toilet back on, then my homeowners would only pay for them to take it off and put it on. So, American Home Shield was trying to incur a cost for me based on a sudden and unexpected incident, and I found that to be really ridiculous.

Then, when I called the contractor company, the lady that I talked to was not very friendly and I felt like the company had an attitude. But the tech that came to my house was awesome. He was very friendly, conversational, and informational in explaining about the toilet and how it works. I had a clogged sink, too, and he fixed that as well. But when I asked him if he could also look at my toilet since he was in my garage, he said that the toilet had to be attached for him to do so. So American Home Shield was horrible. My prior experience with them on my microwave was horrible, too. Even though they got it fixed, their reps couldn’t find the claim in their system because the contractors entered it in incorrectly and that delayed the work even more.

He told me he was going to order some knobs that go inside that hold the wire rack up inside the microwave, and then once those came in, that he would call me and bring them back out. Before he did that, I called back. I also left a message and told them that it was still making the grinding noise. I didn’t hear back from him, so I called American Home Shield and told them what was going on. The young lady said that she was going to have the tech come back out. But I don’t want the same person coming back if I've already left them a message and explained that it was still happening.

American Home Shield needs to screen the company that they use for coming out because a lot of these people are not good quality. This guy came to my home one time to fix my refrigerator. He was probably Middle Eastern, and I know they have a culture where they don’t wear deodorant, but it was a horrible smell in my home when he left. To him, it's probably normal because that’s their culture, but that’s normal to Americans. I've also had a couple that have come and fixed something, and two days later, there's something wrong with it again. Plus, AHS has to do better follow-up. Their phone system is horrible. He was trying to use his dirty tactics and ripped me off by upgrading me to another garbage disposal for a $100 extra. He showed me the Chinese garbage disposal which American Home Shield would pay for. He also told me that my line was backed up and he would charge me $450 to do a Roto-Rooter on the line. I told him that mine's backed up and asked shouldn't it be covered by the call. Then he lowered his price to $350 and I said okay.

And then I got on the phone with someone else who told me not to do it. So I told the guy before he got all the equipment out of his car that I changed my mind and he started trying to convince me that he should do it. He acted like he was really pissed off that I changed my mind and that I was going to be sorry that I didn't do it. He was really manipulative.

I called American Home Shield the next day to put in a complaint about him. They called him and he denied all the allegations. He told them that he just suggested that I do the Roto-Rooter but it wasn't part of what needed to be fixed to fix the garbage disposal which was the opposite of what he had told me. He also denied that he had shown me those cheap Chinese parts and told me that that was the one that he was going to replace it with unless I paid him extra $100. He's completely immoral and preys on people with fear. And to have him associated with American Home Shield just lowers their credibility and integrity.

American Home Shield just dropped the complaint so he's still out there preying on people. They did not take it seriously and seemed to not be concerned about the quality of the people that they sent out. This was not the first time that the people that American Home Shield has sent me that have tried to upgrade me. They use the copay and decide that they won’t walk out unless they make a couple hundred dollars more. The whole experience was a paper mill.

In the two years that I've had them, I’ve submitted five or six claims and some of them were regarding the AC problem. It kept not working right, so they had to continue to send somebody out to make it right and eventually they did. The problem was there were no proactive procedures. The AC broke when it was 200 degrees outside, and they put a band-aid on something and waited for it totally to go out when they knew it was going to happen. That was the frustrating part. Also, the wait time is killing me and they should probably hire more people. The reps are very friendly and helpful, but the last two times I've talked to them has been at least a 30-minute wait. They tell you that the high call volume is lengthy and you can call back or you can wait. At least they're not lying to you automated, too.

Sometimes when you're a female and you have somebody coming in your house and you're the only one here, nowadays can be a little bit scary. But every contractor that they sent out has been very nice and has made me feel comfortable. The quality of their work is very good but their hands are tied with that proactive thing. They can tell you that the AC will keep going out but until it totally breaks and kicks the bucket then you know band-aids are band-aids. But the contractors, especially the appliance people, have done an excellent job and they’ve really gone above and beyond helping me out. The AC guy did a great job too. He knew what the problem was, but until he finally witnessed and saw the AC totally being dead, there was not a whole lot he could do about it because he has integrity and he has to say, “Well it's not broke, but I know it's going to be broke. That’s the deal there.”

Since the repair, the dryer has been great as Andrew did a fantastic job. A screw had come off of the little arms inside the tub of the dryer that grabs the wet clothes and toss them around, and that wasn’t related to him at all. I was able to pop the panel and put that screw back in and we were good to go. American Home Shield gives a peace of mind knowing that you’ve got this mortgage payment and the last thing you want to do is to get all these expenses if something goes wrong. They make you feel better about knowing that if something major breaks, it's only going to cost you 100 bucks. On my last conversation with them, I was calling because the yearly due had gone up and I was asking if there is something like an online discount or discounts that they can give to people that have been with them, but there was none.

I would tell friends to go for American Home Shield as first-time buyers get a better deal. I've definitely recommended American Home Shield to a lot of people because they’ve got contractors that you can trust and I like their turnaround time as they call you within 24 hours. Maybe it's a bad experience American Home Shield has had in the past with having contractors that just want to bill them for fixes that don’t really need to be fixed or they're saying the same thing, so I see both sides of it. If it was a horrible experience, I wouldn’t be renewing. And I am renewing even though I'm not happy about having to pay the extra money a month.

Their reps are usually helpful but trying to get through them takes 45 minutes to an hour. And that’s a little irritating. So those are a couple of really major items that they need to improve upon. Otherwise, we’re quite happy with American Home Shield. Everything's been working well now. The upstairs air conditioner has been a problem, but at the moment, it’s repaired. However, they've had to replace a total amount of Freon to the tune of $800 and then three months later, the same thing happens and I'd have to repay the same $800 because it’s past the critical period. It's the way AHS operates. Their contractor was great, but they replaced one part and it didn't work so they had to take the whole thing out and take it back to the shop. AHS won't let the contractors order the part. They got to order it themselves and send it to the contractor, which was ridiculous but my microwave finally got fixed. AHS should've let the contractors tell them what was needed and let them get a part locally and it would have been repaired in a couple of days instead of three weeks. But other than that, they covered it.

The washer had been worked on several times and the technicians were out three times that last weekend before they finally said there was no way to repair it. So the technician submitted the claim and we got an “okay” from American Home Shield to go ahead and replace it for $604 and some cents. We've already sent the receipt into American Home Shield last week to show that a new washer and a dryer were purchased but I realize that the $605 is the only thing going be allowed.

In the past, I had the appliances done through Sears but when the home was purchased, the realtor spoke highly of American Home Shield. I've been with them for five years now and I just insured another home too. There was one technician who we weren’t very pleased with but we discussed that with one of the representatives in customer service and she got us with another company and they were very nice. As a homeowner, there is peace of mind in knowing that when you have a problem, you pick up the phone and the folks who are providing you a service actually do. That’s what American Home Shield does when you call and it's worth your money to have that peace of mind.

My mother has been with American Home Shield for years and we've done really well with it. My sink was all backed up and the contractors came and fixed everything and were very nice and professional. Now the sink runs beautifully and I thank them profusely. I'm an over the phone person and there was a time where I had to wait an hour and a half to get through but they treated me very well when I finally got somebody on the phone. If ever I have any more problems, I’ll get American Home Shield back. I have spoken to my friends and told them they need to get American Home Shield because they will only pay $75.

I contacted American Home Shield to replace my furnace after we had another furnace company take a look at it for the fall maintenance. They found that it had a crack in one of the units and it was leaking carbon monoxide. I called it in since it was easier for me to explain what the other furnace company had found and what they were saying I needed to ask for by talking to somebody. The customer service rep was very good. They were very understanding and worked on getting everything taken care of for me.

The contractors were good for getting it installed, but we're still having problems getting a hold of them now. They were supposed to fill out a form for us for the rebate from our gas company, but the guy won't return any of my calls. He did the work and now he's not communicating with us at all. Although, he responded to my wife one day and texted that he just needed to drop the paperwork off for us, it's been two weeks. I've called and I left him a voicemail, but he has not returned it.

It takes a long time to get on the phone with AHS or do the chatting via the instant message on their site. It seems like there's a long queue. It's very quick to just submit a claim but if you need to talk to somebody, it takes 30 minutes or more before somebody gets online with you. Overall, the experience with them was very good. They took care of the issue, reached out and got a contractor sent out immediately. Plus, they are easy to deal with.

We have two different problems. Our washing machine is leaking and AHS said it has been assigned to somebody. I haven't heard a thing. We had a problem with our radiant floor heater and AHS sent out a regular electrician who said he knew nothing about the heater. AHS said they'd have to get someone out that knows radiant floor heat. I talked to the tech and he said he would definitely tell AHS that we shouldn't have to pay for a second call. However, again, we haven't heard a thing back from them. It has been almost three months. Luckily, the heat still works but at times we don't have any hot water.

The main complaint is sitting on hold for a half hour to an hour. There was a period of time, maybe six months ago, where it was 10 or 15 minutes, but it didn't last. AHS tells you to do it online but this kind of thing can't be explained online. I tried calling at 2 o'clock in the morning but the recording says they're experiencing unusually heavy calls and it will be a minimum of 10 minutes. Then I go to the next step and then it'll come on and it will say wait time is 40 or 60 minutes plus. It would be great if AHS would set up an option that will put a customer in the queue and they'll call back in order.

But once we finally get the service call, the people AHS has sent out have been great. I renewed with AHS for another year because we have had some real issues with almost all the appliances and the techs have been wonderful. We've had a couple who have come out and I've called them directly but they said they don’t work with AHS. I think it's part of the problem that AHS is not making their contractors happy and they're stopping working with them.

Now they have been back to normal so everything is fine. The contractors were very good. However, it was a very difficult experience because you have to wait about an hour just to get them. And, we had some AC and heating systems issue with our gas. They asked the company to come twice and nothing has been fixed. The company was first telling us that it was not covered by the insurance and then they just provided us the quotation so we can pay for it. The company never got back to us. Besides that, it’s not always clear about what is covered and what is not. And once you have a claim, you pay for $75 and once the company came to your house, they don’t follow up to make sure everything is all right. So it was not a really good experience.

American Home Shield tried to get out of fixing everything. They do as little as possible and they send out unqualified people. I had that before when they told me I had a bad water pan and it turned out to be nothing of the sort. I've had this repeatedly especially in the house in Michigan that I have it on too. They are one of the worst companies I've ever dealt from a customer service perspective and in getting the job done. They do a very poor job at fixing things and the worst job at diagnosing the problem.

This recent issue was something to do with a water line backup because of tree roots. They sent out so many unqualified people to diagnose things that they should be ashamed themselves. My guy poured literally 21 gallons of water continuously down the drain and it had no leakage whatsoever, yet they claimed it was a pan problem. Then the people that were managing the property wrote a stupid letter that made it look like we were responsible, which we weren't. American Home Shield sent out somebody that didn’t finish the welding job, so there was water leaking behind the wall for a year, which then caused the wall to collapse and create black mold. So, that was lost rent and that was $14,000 in fixing things.

I keep hoping that American Home Shield is going to get better but that doesn’t seem to be happening. They seem to be getting worse. They find a way to deny my claim because that way, the company that they send out gives me their own bid. It's in their best interest to figure out a way to deny my claim because the company that they send out will then offer me a separate bid for that specific problem. They’re interested in denying it so that they can make money off of me by giving me their claim. I would switch but I'd have to wait a month and I don’t know if the other company is any better.

AHS doesn’t have enough staff to handle the phone and there's usually a one-hour wait time or more, although they're coming up with an appointment system similar to Spectrum where a customer can call in and enter their number then AHS will call them back. Getting through to somebody is a problem but the A-TX Express folks who came out to work on the air conditioning were very pleasant and professional. They took their shoes off and put booties on when they came in the house, represented the company well and diagnosed the issue quickly.

The heater was not cycling on and it appeared to be a relay issue. They swapped the circuit board but it took them six days to get the board ordered and then had to schedule a visit back. I was busy when they came back but they said everything was fine and left. But we leave the unit on 24/7 and I noticed the fan was slightly going off of the compressor, and when I switched it from auto to on, the fan wouldn’t come on. At that point, what got me was that AHS sent something saying my service was complete but it wasn’t. I called A-TX Express and left a few messages, then I tried to get through to AHS. Finally, service was rescheduled and A-TX Express came back out. A jumper on the board simply needed to be reconfigured and then everything worked properly.

When they installed the circuit board, they didn’t check it out thoroughly before leaving and although they were very good, the repair took three visits. It was getting cold and our heater was out but it took almost a week and a half to get the heater repaired. The wait times are a problem sometimes but here’s the biggest thing that’s stuck in my craw. Five years ago, our refrigerator had crapped out but we regularly replace things and buy new appliances, and that refrigerator was a GE and a good one.

The claim took a month and five visits, and on the fifth visit, the guy injected some goop into the cooling system that would supposedly seal it because he couldn’t fix it. But that didn’t fix it either and we were going on almost a month with no refrigerator so I asked AHS at what point they were going to give up and simply replace it. Then they sent somebody else out. A GE repairman came out and wondered what that goop was around the nozzle. I explained to him what the previous service tech did and he said the EPA certification was voided. It was a closed cooling system so you can’t introduce a foreign substance into it. So, it was shot and he couldn't do anything with the refrigerator.

AHS came back and said they disagree with his understanding. They were going to send somebody else back out but the guy had just told them the EPA was cancelled, the authorization for that particular cooling system. A week later, the claim went into some review and they escalated it, listened to the telephone conversations and went through a whole bunch of rigmarole. Finally, I got a call from somebody saying they were replacing the refrigerator. Four days later, we had a replacement refrigerator but we had been without a refrigerator for a month and a half.

They were very reluctant to replace it when the evidence was clear. It needed to be replaced and the main reason was because one of the repair techs messed it up and didn’t follow procedure for that particular refrigerator. I’ve been paying like clockwork for 12 years at that point but I almost cancelled the service over that experience alone. I thought they could have handled it better.

Another time, there was something that needed to be repaired and AHS said they were going to do a cash buyout. I went back, looked at the contract and realized that if something serious happens, there’s a maximum payout or a maximum cap on a repair. The only thing that might apply would be the air conditioning. Plus, I also heard that if there’s a plumbing issue, they no longer covered the digging to get to the plumbing. Those are things that stand out competitively. The warranty is certainly not economically beneficial but there are other advantages so I would still recommend it. If you’re persistent, claims work out well for the most part and most of their contractors have been excellent.

I thought air conditioning and heating go hand-in-hand, but they charged me double service calls and I didn't like that. It's not like I called two people to see my unit. It was just one call, one guy. If the guy had to come back out the next day, then that's another call. Homeowners don't know that. If I had called a regular air conditioning guy, he wouldn't have charged me extra. The contractor that came was great and did a good job, but I'm very dissatisfied with my experience and I won't recommend AHS.

American Home Shield had a contractor come out to work on a leaking toilet issue. They completed the job but there was an issue in the way they had made an installation on a piece of equipment and the toilet wasn’t functioning properly, and they came back and adjusted it. This particular company that they sent out the last time was professional and a better quality than what they sent out in the past. The past were people that were called in didn’t have a whole lot of experience or knowledge.

However, I have had very limited need to use the contract and I’m considering canceling it because I have not utilized or had the need to utilize their services. Financially, it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense. I’m paying $75 to have a serviceman come out to look at something. Invariably, if I called an independent person, that would perhaps be $85 to come out and perform the job. I’m paying that in addition to the cost of my policy. But that’s what insurance is for.

We have an open lawsuit against American Home Shield right now because of their services. We purchased our house this year and called American Home Shield for some problems we were having. It started off with a couple of things at first. The first thing we called them for was either a doorbell or a thermostat issue. They came out and couldn’t fix the doorbell and we accepted that. But they found out what was wrong with the thermostat. Each time somebody comes out, we pay $75. Even though the guy couldn’t fix our doorbell, we still paid him $75. Also, American Home Shield picks which company to send and we don’t get a choice of who comes out to our house.

We live in a pretty nice neighborhood. Our house is just under three-quarters of $1,000,000. If we're going to have people coming out to our house to work on it, we’d want reputable companies and reputable people. Unfortunately, AHS contracts with providers that would give them the best deal but they don't make sure that those providers are qualified to to be working on the appliances and equipments, and servicing the work orders that they're being provided. AHS also does not make sure those providers have the proper training or if they are even legit companies.

The problem started happening when we went to turn on our air conditioning for the first time towards the end of May. We have a three-story house. I've got two children and the pregnant wife all living here. It's a brick house and these houses get hot during the day, plus they hold their heat like ovens, so it’s a nightmare. We filled out an online request form and they sent someone out. When they got here, I asked them how long was the time they allotted to be at our job site. The guy said that they've got two hours to do the service call and that he was here to work on one unit only so if we wanted him to work, we'd have to pick which he’d work on.

I called American Home Shield, and they told me not to let that individual work. They'd reissue a work order that will allow them to have time to work on more than one unit. That individual left and American Home Shield scheduled another visit, but the company that came out billed us $75 when they didn’t even perform any work. They didn’t even set foot in our house. When that same company came back out to service our equipment, they informed us that they didn’t service our type of air conditioning units. They weren't educated enough to be able to perform the service that we needed for our air conditioning unit. They left again without even doing any work and charged us another $75.

Then AHS had another company come out to look at our units and we asked specifically if that company was going to be able to work on these units and they said yes. I took off work, but the company they sent never showed up. The next day, I called AHS and scheduled me for another day on which I was going to my daughter's dance recital. However, my wife’s pregnant and I got a one-year-old baby, so I wanted to get this air conditioning unit fixed as soon as possible. I missed out on my daughter’s dance recital that morning. When the contractor got here and we showed them the units outside, they informed me that they didn’t work on those types of air conditioning units either. They left without even getting one tool out of their truck or even stepping one foot in my house. And I was charged $75 again.

The first time all this happened, I had the 1-800 number and it took two hours just to talk to someone. I was on hold and wasting my time. I got tossed around and hung up on. Finally, I got to talk to someone, filed a claim got updated. I asked one of my friends who’s a real estate agent if he ever used this company. When he said yes, I told him to stop because of what was happening with me. He then gave me the name of the supervisor in St. Louis so I can call him directly. I called that guy, David, and told him what was going on. He was in disbelief. Then he assured me that he's going to make sure that that was the last time we’d ever speak and that I’d be taken care of that day and that I never would have another problem with my air conditioner. When I told him about the times I got charged $75 he told me they're going to take care of it and I didn't have to pay it.

He sent out another company two days later. However, before that, I hired my own air conditioning company to come and put 12 pounds of Freon in my air conditioning unit because I knew that’s what it needed. I paid the air conditioning guy $750 out of my own pocket so that we could have AC over that weekend because it was 100 degrees. Then the third company came out and I told them exactly what's wrong. The unit upstairs is freezing up, which means it's low on Freon. They agreed and said that since I just got it filled, it must have a leak. I said, "Fine. We'll get that fixed." They then went downstairs and took notes on the air conditioning unit there.

The tech said that the problem was the motor. He got the part number and contacted American Home Shield after a day or two. AHS authorized for the repairs to get done. At that point in time, a month and a half has gone by as it took two weeks for the first company to get out here. American Home Shield, for some reason, ordered the wrong parts that were shipped to the dealer. The dealer then picked and chose the time when they’d come out to our house. So they were just waiting American Home Shield to send the parts.

Two weeks after they said they would send the parts, I called back and checked with them again. They said, “No.” I called a week later, and they said the parts came in several days ago, but once the parts come in, only then will they put me on the waiting list. We had another two-week wait for them to come out. They should have just had me on standby, so whenever the parts got in, they knew what was up. This company was supposedly sympathetic to our situation. Then they said that they're going to come out here, but unfortunately, there's $1,300 worth of work that American Home Shield wasn't going to cover. They had to replace the wiring and the copper since it's a code thing. At that point, I didn’t care and agreed to it.

They ripped out all of my air conditioning units, even the one that I just filled up with Freon a couple of weeks before. They took 18 pounds of Freon that was legally mine without even asking me. Then I noticed that they weren't replacing the wiring and the cooper. I asked the technician why and he said they can just hook it up to the existing copper and electrical wires. I told him that they were charging me to replace all the wires and copper and if they weren't going to do it then I wouldn’t pay for it. He called his boss and all of a sudden, they took all of my air conditioning units and left stuff all in disarray. Then they left without even saying one word.

When I walked upstairs to our third floor, there were scratches across our hardwood floor. Then I went into our guest bedroom where there wasn’t even an air conditioning unit or anything to do with an air conditioning unit, all of the furniture was moved across the floor up against one side of the room. The floors in there were all scratched from them sliding the furniture across instead of picking it up and moving it.

They opened the windows, took the window out of the sash, and threw an air conditioning unit from the third floor out this window down onto my nice landscaped lawn in the front yard. Not only did it break a limb on my tree underneath and left huge indentations on the side, but they also scratched the window sill. They took a functioning air conditioning unit. While it didn’t work the best but it still worked just a little bit. I went around the house to see what else was going on. They didn’t even start working on the other unit. I walked outside and all of the electrical wiring and plumbing were just dangling there. On top of it all, they stole my scrap metal.

I called the company and they won't get back to me. I called American Home Shield and told them what's up. AHS called me back and told me that the contractor said that the work has been completed and I told them otherwise. Then I called the air conditioning company and told them everything that was going on. They said they'd send out the owner the next day to talk to me.

The next day, the owner came but was 40 minutes late. I took off another day of work to meet this owner. He got out of his truck, then another truck pulled up with two other workers in it. They weren’t the workers that came the day before. They didn't get tools out of their truck so they weren’t here to do any work but for a confrontation. He started yelling at me while I was standing on my front porch, and he's walking up the sidewalk to my house. I came off of my porch and walked around the side of the house. I pointed at the air conditioning unit, the bare wires just hanging there and the copper that weren't finished being hooked up to the air conditioning unit.

I told him that they’re liars and his workers told American Home Shield that this was all finished and hooked up. I also showed them the damages that were done. He said he didn't have to take that and left. Then, American Home Shield told me that they weren't going to send out another contractor to fix it and I had to take the cash-out amount or do nothing. Everything was their fault and I told them they sent out people who weren't even qualified to work on the AC unit, to begin with.

In the middle of this process, American Home Shield locked us out of our account on the computer. They said that we owed money for the contractors that came. They sent the collection agency and then suspended our account. We couldn’t access it or have anybody come out to our house to look or work on anything. Over the course of two months, I spoke to David, who said before that I'd never have talk to him again, over 100 times.

It's been a year and our air conditioning unit still isn't fixed. We went through the hottest part of the year with no air conditioning whatsoever on all three floors of my house. Plus, the mini-splits downstairs needed to be replaced. Now, we don’t have heat on our first floor and it's going into the coldest time of the year. That’s where our TV room, our Christmas tree, and our kitchen are. There's also the dining room and all the things we use when we're together as a family. It's affecting the emotional and mental status of my entire family right now. It's been frustrating for me because I've spent a little over 200 hours on the phone with American Home Shield this year. And I took off eight days worth of work to meet contractors here at my house or go over stuff with contractors.

This week we are using AHS again. We turned on the vacuum the other day and the power blew on three of the rooms on the second floor. I went down and tripped the circuit breakers. I tested all the ground fault interrupts in the bathroom to see if any were bad, but they weren't. They're not even getting power to trip them. But the problem is, if they send out the cheapest contractor they can find and I’d ask them to put booties on, they’d come in to your house and look at me like, “What are you talking about?” I wouldn’t want their greasy boots on my $50,000 Kashmir rug from Persia. If they want to accept the work order, then send someone out here that’s capable of doing the work. If not, then see you later.

We’ve already paid the deductible, which isn’t refundable, but the contractor called us to let us know what was going on, and that we have 75 days if something occurs again, to let them know, and they’ll be right back out. There were a few contractors that weren’t good, but this particular one was very, very good. He was exceptionally professional, clean, and neat.

But the problem is sometimes, American Home Shield sets up a new way that they can dispatch their service, and that dispatch feature doesn’t always work on my phone. The reps that I have spoken to are fine but the call takes too long and it’s ridiculous to get through. I’d tell my friends to go online and log the information rather than wait on hold.

Most of the technicians are good and the last one I had was really good. However, I don’t care for the electrical company, Sundance. They didn’t fix the problem. If it’s not working, then replace it but it takes hard for them to make that call. I’m paying this insurance all year long. American Home Shield should give a better break to people that have multiple accounts with them. They should give a really good bundle program because right now, it’s not that great. I have five pieces of property with them.

In my six months with American Home Shield, I’ve had a water heater replaced, a fridge repaired before Thanksgiving and a repair on a furnace. The biggest frustration for me, though, is that I can't get a live person. What happened with our furnace, initially, was that it was only working in half of the house. This was on a Thursday and they sent me a text saying these people will come out on Monday. We went through a cold weekend. The person was supposed to come by noon on that Monday but he didn’t.

I called the contractor and they said that they were not coming. They don’t work on oil furnaces but no one told me. They said that they told American Home Shield and that I needed someone else but I could not get a live person at AHS. I couldn’t do anything online because then the only thing it would do is take a new claim and charge me another $75. When I called the helpline, I sat on the phone one time for 45 minutes and then had to go because I have a life. No one ever picked up. Also, with the water heater claim, going through the whole process, we were without hot water for about six days. It took that long for someone to get someone here.

Their technicians are absolutely great, though. They are nice people, clean and did the work. Everyone of them was wonderful. I'm glad that AHS paid the claims and the people that they have had come out are good professionals. I'm pretty appreciative of that end very much, but on the customer service and trying to reach someone and trying to understand the process, it was very clear, I didn’t feel that they responded.

American Home Shield was good. However, every time I need assistance, I had to pay $75. It comes out to pay another insurance so I'm not renewing. The washers that connected the toilet to the tank were completely rotten. So, I submitted my claim by phone, and their reps have all been good. They sent a plumber to change the washers and it only took a couple of minutes, but I paid $75 for that. My neighbor could have done it for less than that. Other than that, the service was fine, and Their contractors were good. They came and did the job. Nothing more, nothing less.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our stove that went out and it was very easy because it was all online. The repairman came out within a day and we were pleased with that since it was two days before Thanksgiving. I’m sure people were on vacation and it was the Holidays but given that, he came out very quickly. AHS ended up having to replace my unit since it was not repairable. However, once it was determined that we needed a replacement stove, we had to call their purchasing department and that was a hassle since we had to wait for over an hour to talk to someone.

Getting the new unit and having it installed were also fiascoes. The freight company that was supposed to deliver it called to tell us they would not be able to come at the time they were scheduled to come. At that point, it's been 10 days since we’ve been without a stove. When they finally rescheduled to come out a couple of days later, I notified Home Shield that we were on propane and would need a conversion kit which the stove came with. But the company who delivered it refused to hook it up to propane so they dropped it. As they were walking out the door I called Home Shield and they had someone out here the next day to convert the orifices from natural gas to propane. Then we were up and running. This second company that came out was fabulous and the stove is working wonderfully.

We built a new house and when the builder’s warranty went off, we bought the home warranty from American Home Shield. It's been 15 months now and it's certainly beneficial. Our washing machine was hooked into a wall and the connecting metal thing broke but it didn’t take the contractor very long to fix the issue. I also had another claim recently. We were without water all weekend 'cause the house would have been flooded. When my husband finally talked to somebody on Sunday, he was told that I didn’t say it was an emergency but there was no place to say so on the website. I submitted the claim that way because I was put on hold when I called and it took an hour. Also, the website's easy to navigate. With AHS, I don’t have to worry if somebody’s going to get things fixed. They send out good plumbers.

I have been using American Home Shield for 15 years. My experience with them has been very good 98% of the time. When it hasn’t been good, it wasn’t really because of American Home Shield. It's because of the tradesman that responded to my service request. They either just weren't knowledgeable or they weren’t polite or they weren't clean or they just couldn’t get it fixed for some reason and had to make multiple visits. I can't throw American Home Shield under the bus. They got a really good thing going on and it has paid huge dividends to us in the homes that we've used them to cover our appliances and systems.

I called them recently and requested service on two refrigerators. The warranty policy that I purchased from them allows me to select specific appliances where they'll actually cover multiples of those appliances. It's called the Pick 10 plan and one of my picks was a refrigerator because I have three in the house. I have two large double-door side by side, and then I have a small mini fridge like a dorm-style fridge that I keep in the garage just to keep soft drinks and water handy. However, one of them had an ice maker issue and the other one had a thermostat issue. So they dispatched a local service technician, and when they came, looked at both refrigerators and got the information they needed.

Usually, I submit my claims online if it's something really simple. But in this recent case with the refrigerator, I had to call, even though I don't like calling because it's not unusual to wait 30 or 40 minutes for them to pick it up. Their call center must be incredibly busy. So, it is much more convenient to do it online. But because I could tell that the automated voice system got confused because it acted like I was just repeating myself, I ended up calling them. It really is very efficient and easy to just go online and submit your request and it works the same way. They're very responsive. I usually get a call within 24 hours from one the business they dispatch the repair to. And they're almost always on schedule and on time.

There have been a couple of cases in those 15 years though where they send contractors who were not great. We had a refrigerator in our former room that had a water leak. And it turned out at the end of the day to be something just incredibly simple. What made it frustrating is that all refrigerators have a drip pan down in the bottom where the condensation from the defrost cycle from the freezer compartment runs into and it actually had a tiny hole through in one little corner and that's where the water was dripping out of. It took four different companies and seven visits to my home before anybody found what was causing the leak. Through that process, they replaced the thermostat, the water valves, the tubing and replaced everything, but the fridge, and still couldn't find the leak. Then, a particular technician took that drip pan out and, sure enough, he found the little-rusted hole in it and that was the problem. It's still running today.

There has been a couple of times when the technician was just unprofessional or wasn't clean. He should either keep his hands clean or carry some handy wipes or a rug because they will leave their fingerprints on the trim or the wall or the appliance. There was also one instance when one guy, for some reason, offended my wife. And that's where I just got to draw the line. I asked him to leave and then I called American Home Shield and told them that we didn't like that guy and he was offensive. Other than those may be three instances, we're very happy with them. I love them and I have recommended them to a lot of people. My son uses them and some of my friends use them too.

The technician knew what he was doing and he fixed it very quickly. AHS' customer service was good. I had a question in regards to the order as my name and some information needed an update in the system. I explained to the rep what the problem was. He took note of it and put that in the system.

In the past, I had an experience with another company which I didn't like so, I requested AHS to send me another company. In addition, I added to my contract to repair the refrigerator and I added a fee. A few years later, I requested to service the refrigerator and the fee was included in the payment I made every year. The following year, the fee was the same but not included anymore. That was my question which they didn't' answer neither by phone nor by email. Other than that, I'm satisfied with their service.

He cleaned the hose that was maybe loaded with sediment and he put it back together and it ran fine. But, my washer started doing it again so the tech came back and he replaced the sensor that tells the machine that the water is out and it can stop. The washer has been perfect since.

Every time the tech came out, he would tell us that he would be arriving in 15 minutes so we're always ready for him. Recently, American Home Shield replaced my dishwasher. The hardest part of filing a claim is getting the live operator because they’re that busy. It’s a long wait. But if you waited through and you managed to get somebody that will take your claim, they’ll send somebody to check everything out, and they get $75 for that. Usually, if it can’t be repaired, they’ll just replace the whole unit. I complained about my refrigerator as it was freezing up the food in it. They checked that all out, found out what was wrong, and ordered the parts. They came and put in one part. They needed a gasket which kept the doors closed. They ordered it and that has not come in as yet.

The contractors are usually very nice and very eager to please. They always ask you if you have any other items that are not working properly and they’ll check it through for you. But I got one lemon and he made my oven explode. I was lucky that I didn’t have a true explosion, and he was lucky he didn’t get burned. He tried to make the oven work and the whole thing just blew. It was a particular firm that American Home Shield used and it was the father of the owner. He didn’t speak our language. Since I don’t speak Russian, we couldn’t communicate. I requested that they never send that company to me ever again and they haven’t. He could have set my house on fire. He was trying to take out the light that lit up the oven and it had nothing to do with what I was complaining about.

Also, I’ve been having some problems lately in getting my microwave and oven. They can’t tell me the measurements so I am wondering how am I supposed to know and say it's the one that I want if I don’t know the measurements of what they are offering. I tried to call them about it, but if I want to see it, I have to go out. I live in Johns Creek and I have to go to Kennesaw. That’s the only place that has the unit that they say will fit my old unit. But overall, American Home Shield is very good. I’ve been using them for the last umpteen years since I bought my house and I find them very reliable. The customer service team is always very nice. When you report a problem to them, they don’t send that company out to you in the future.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield used to be easy but it’s extremely difficult now. I cannot reach them on the phone and it’s a high call volume every time. I have to wait 10 minutes or more than an hour and I usually just hang up. Recently, I filed for a garage door opener and a refrigerator claim at the same time. Once I got a representative, it was easy. I set up the appointment and the lady was helpful. When I got them on the line, there was a skip and that was the end of that.

A day later, my refrigerator was all of a sudden making a strange sound so, I called AHS back. I went through the whole process but I could not get them until the day they were supposed to come out. I panicked because that day, the people that were coming out for my garage door were scheduled and I couldn’t add on another claim. Finally, I waited it out on the phone and I got AHS, and they added the claim on. I thought though that they would charge me one time for the multiple things.

The contractor who came for the garage door was amazing and he went above and beyond. He called me to tell me he were coming out and he called me after to see how the service was. The guy was very professional, kind of provided maintenance for the garage door and even found out that I just needed a garage door opener, the remote. He probably would not have had to come out and even waived the fee for that cause. I felt so comfortable with him. On the other hand, the guy who came for the refrigerator made me a little nervous because he wasn't in any type of business vehicle. He drove up in his vehicle, which never happened before, and I didn’t know who he was at first other than he got out with tools.

I had a plate that was coming off from the bottom and he did not fix the problem in any way, shape or form. It didn’t make sense what the contractor was telling me about my door staying open. It was off balance in some kind of way but he just told me I had too much in the door. I told him that I never heard of that before but I moved everything off the door. Also, the grill in the bottom that covers the wiring won’t stay on but the repair guy said that he couldn't fix it and that he'd have to order a new one. He would just mail me the part and I could install it. There was no reason for him to come back out for that. But I never heard from him again and never got the plate. And since I couldn't reach him, I just gave up.

All of a sudden, I started getting a bill for $75. I always paid the bills as they come out. I spoke with AHS and they said they were going to waive it but I keep getting the bill saying it was past due and that they were going to terminate my service. Whenever I called back, they agreed and they could see it was agreed to that they were not to charge me. There was a confusion where the agent didn’t explain that there would only be two $75 fees. I said that if that was the way it was, then I was going to pay it but they said no.

It was not a good experience with them at all. It's a totally different company than that one I signed up with years ago and I loved them. The number one thing that changed is reaching them and I let them know how I feel about that whenever I call. If I try to go online and order the service, it’s not letting me schedule for some reason. It could be me doing something wrong though. I then have to call which I try to avoid. Another change is the way I pay the fees. It’s not just one charge when the contractor comes out and that's fine if that’s the way it is. But what I don’t like is having them come out but I’ve never get something fixed.

AHS had always had top-notch people out and they had been very professional and they got things fixed. But I’m very dissatisfied right now. The difference with the contractor who did the garage was night and day. And I still have a bill out there that I can’t find out whether I should or shouldn’t pay it. The person that wrote the note was off the day I called and he is the only one that can make the adjustment because the people I’m calling and complaining to can't. I'll probably not stay with AHS.

I was happy with American Home Shield until last year. This year, there has been a little bit of problem. They're taking the $75 upfront. That was not good because if I wanted to take the $75 on the spot, they didn't care. They fixed the dryer 3 weeks ago but not the washer. It's been a month and a half and the washer is still not done. Someone from the corporate office helped me to change to another company but the company is not taking care of the issue. A technician came and did the investigation. He told me they could order the part and it was going to take three to five business days. He said I was gonna receive a phone call from the company where he was going to go from his office to get the order. Friday came and I didn't receive a phone call so I called. The lady told me that they had to talk to the technician and the technician was out of the site. Once they talk, they were going to order the part. So it was going to be more delayed.

American Home Shield ordered another company but they're giving the same thing. Today I called American Home Shield and American Home Shield called AG Appliance. The American Home Shield lady said she was gonna keep an eye on it but I don't know if they are going to fix it or if they have ordered the part. Everything is a question mark. If I know that they ordered the part, at least I can tell my supervisor that "Hey, this day I need a day off. The people is coming to fix my dryer." I have a big laundry load and I'm waiting. I'm already spending 99 every month for the fees which is on top of the $75 dollars that I paid. The service that I'm getting is not good. I already took a day off 3 times. And I'm not on salary. I'm on hourly so I'm losing my money from work.

American Home Shield did a good job with a plumbing repair recently. The garbage disposal went out and they unclogged it. They repaired it and I didn't have to get a new one. It's working good now. They also repaired my sink, which was out for a year. They did a good job on it. With our refrigerator, I talked to a guy that was from their home office and he said that they would reimburse us the $75 fee that we paid but I never got it. He didn't call me back and tell me if we were going to receive it or not.

In submitting the claims, at first I called, then I went online. The rep was good and she took care of me. I put in some claims but it wasn't the right one because all didn't fall under plumbing so she took out the one that didn't fall under plumbing and corrected it. I will refer American Home Shield to family and friends because they are good.

AHS lets you request a specific contractor when you have a repair so I specifically asked for the contractor who fixed my dryer before. He was awesome. I always feel that their contractors are all reputable and professional. I've recommended AHS to a couple of friends.

I submitted a claim for our AC to American Home Shield online and the website is much better than it had been in the past. There were some changes and it’s much easier to navigate now. The AC is in our second home so we're not there that often. When we went there this past July, we had trouble with it. I was satisfied with the attitude of the person who made the appointment. The repairman was very knowledgeable and good. Unfortunately, he was only able to fix part of the problem and had to come back with some parts. However, we weren't going to be there for long. We got the chance to get back there this November. I called AHS again and they had him come out and finish the repair. I was very happy and satisfied.

Our AC wasn’t producing cold air and I called for service and a guy came out and told me I was going to need eight pounds of 22 and this stuff is about 80 bucks a pound. He said that it has to be a leak somewhere and instead he could put the eight pounds in. It was a lot so I called American Home Shield for a claim. They sent an HVAC guy who was a really knowledgeable tech. I went to the roof with him and he was really sharp. He tested the system. He put in some leak stuff to run through the system and when he replaced the coolant, it was considerably less than what the other individual had stated. And I didn’t have any problems with the rest of this season. I had air conditioning and I didn’t sweat.

The HVAC guy has excellent customer service. I referred his company to my daughter just for fall clean-up and stuff and I will probably use him in the future. I’ve never lived in a condo which is totally electric, and when I bought it, I was originally told that the unit on the roof was a heat pump. Also, when I had nest thermostats installed, the person who sold and installed the nest told me I had a heat pump and that he had to program the nest with different stages for cooling. And so I’ve had four people tell me that it is a heat pump and the HVAC guy said it is an air conditioner and not a heat pump. He was really thorough. And he was definitely worth the 75 bucks copay. He even called me back two weeks later to ask me how we’re going. He’s a person who’s proud of what he does and it shows and evidently, has a good working relationship with insurers.

I’m very pleased with American Home Shield's response time. And I wasn’t looking for a replacement of the air conditioner. I wanted a conditioned air and that’s what they did. With the way I was treated on my claim, I would certainly recommend and would continue the policy. My father-in-law is the realtor that sold me the house and the policy. And then I renewed and then I will continue to renew it.

I have a mobile home and there was a leak underneath. The contractor who went to do the work on it was unable to determine where the leak was because they could not get underneath the floor. They didn’t believe there was enough room and claimed that there was only four inches of room to get underneath there. However, we were in the process of selling the home and the prospective owner crawled under there herself and determined there was a problem. She then called an independent plumber on her own, who was able to come and crawl under and find the problem also. It added a whole bunch of extra time to this whole process. When I let the contractor know that, they were a little bit defensive and stated that that was just policy. I said that maybe it was just because their plumbers are too big and that they need to find small plumbers. Since instead of really doing the job, the person just claimed that it was too tight to get into.

Now, I’m really under the gun to get this thing done because the loan documents are going to expire on Friday. The buyer is not feeling good because things didn’t go as quickly as they should have. There’s a possibility that this whole deal might go south because of that. And every time I called American Home Shield, the waiting time was well over an hour. If it had been this way all along, I would have cancelled the contract a long time ago. But all my other calls have been pretty good. I regularly got people out here in a timely fashion and they’ve been able to do things pretty well.

The wait is too long to speak to somebody, but when I get to speak with the reps, they’re fine. However, the company of the technician they sent out for a plumbing issue was the worst business I've ever dealt with in my life. They caused thousands of dollars of damage to my home, and then American Home Shield said they were not responsible for any damages caused by that company. That was an issue for me. American Home Shield could have better vetted that company because this was a fly-by-night plumbing company that’s just plucking people off the street to work for them. The rest of the companies have been fine and I'd recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield never fixed anything. It was horrible. I have asthma and I have been in this house for 12 years. I have two air conditioning units and lately, I started having problems with them. One person came out here and he changed something to make the blowers start working properly. When you clicked on, it never stops running. It started winding, but then it would take a long time for it to cycle off. Somebody else came to say it was too much Freon.

The thing is, there's so much confusion. This person told me that one unit needs three pounds of fluid Freon. The other one needs four to six. I said I'm not paying for that and so he leaves. The next person that comes to check it again says the same thing. I was mildly confused about the whole situation. Now, the one on the living room side, which I never had problems with is now winding and wouldn't turn off. I requested a service call and for the first time in my life, I didn't ask for a human being. Instead, the recording went back and put a recall on the last call that was in there. I didn't know where to do that.

So, when the person came, he said he couldn't work on the unit that was giving me the problem. He had to work on the other unit. In the meantime, I went out of town because my sister was dying of cancer. When I came back, it's cold as the outdoors here. I tried my unit on, and neither one of them won't come on. If you press the on button, it won't come on. Just the fan running, and I smelled the burning stuff like you would from cold to heat. But the fan is not blowing on either side. Some guy called me and said that he would get somebody out to come check my unit, but he didn't. I did not call him back thought I would just forget it. So right at this moment, I am living in a 32 square footer using some little floor heaters because I have paid so much money between the $75 charges I pay for one thing to get fixed, or the $69 plus $79 that they charge you monthly. that I could have gotten my unit fixed.

And also another thing that really ticked me off outside of the air conditioning units is that one day, all the smoke detectors went off in the house. Normally, I would go hit that thing in the ceiling with a hammer. But I changed the batteries and they all went out, so I ended up having to call the fire department. The fire marshal said all the smoke detectors were expired. They had an expiration date on there, 2015. They got up the ceiling on a ladder and pulled one down. And looked at it. He'd recommend they all be changed out.

The guy sent out by AHS came in there. Whoever he talked to on the phone told him to check to see if the detectors will go out. He changed the battery, which I have already done once, and it did do whatever problem he said that it was having. I told him that I went to Amazon and bought the nine batteries I needed for the $75 he will charge me to come out and change one. He was going to charge the company $650 to change out nine of them since that was what the fire marshal said. I asked if my house burns down, will American Home Shield put the charge on my insurance? After that, I was done because before I even told about that problem, I canceled it. So many people have come to my house and told me so many different things.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioner that wasn’t cooling. The first visit, we checked the Freon. They added some Freon so I thought that was it. Days later, it still wasn’t cooling so I called back. At that point, they changed some part to the outside unit. It started working again then it wasn’t cooling again. So, we called them out again and they changed another part to the outside unit and it was working fine. And that time, the fan wasn’t moving. It would come on, but that outside fan was low and then it was cut off in a moment’s notice. So then, I had to call them back out again.

It turned out that one of the pipes in the inside unit was clogged therefore water wasn’t blowing like it was supposed to. The technician took an air blower and blew out my line. At that point, everything was working. There were 3 different technicians but it was the same company. Each technician was thorough with their explanations with what they thought the problem was. The service was also courteous. I would get email notifications as to when they would arrive. They were on time. Overall, it was a good experience.

In August, I had a water heater that went out on Friday, which was a terrible day to have it go out. I called and AHS said 24 hours. I called the contractor and told them I can't wait all weekend. The contractor said they don't work on weekend. The plumber showed up 1 o'clock on Monday, pulled out a wire with his knob-nose pliers, and then stuck something back in. Two weeks later my water heater was out again. Same weekend scenario.

Another company came out on Monday and he said he didn't know why AHS called them because they are more of the commercial types of contractor. He then asked me if the other contractor blew me up because the pilot light was right against the gas. He said, "Sure you've got everyone in the gas line going up through your ceiling, to all southern units, including yours." So I told him he needed to report this because, obviously, he's the professional and I'm just the homeowner, and he did. He at least re-assembled everything properly.

The heater went out again early November. It was cold and was on a Monday so I called and AHS said they'd send somebody out. I saw the text that it was the first contractor. I told them I never want to see him in my home again so they had to cancel him. It was two more days before I could get somebody out but the contractor said the heater was leaking and was beyond repair. In the meantime, I told AHS that I was not paying for all the service calls when the first one was cancelled because I personally cancelled it and the second couldn't fix it. They sent a third person who was great and fixed the heater, and I do intend to pay that one.

I had given the first gal my credit card during the first call and during my second call when I cancelled the first contractor, I gave her my credit card again. So when the third person came out, I thought she had my credit card but she evidently didn't. So now I get these letter and emails that state there's going to be a $141 or $114 charged to repair my drywall and I don't know what this is about. It's terribly frustrating. I don't have time to babysit all these. I replied to the email if my water heater is deemed to be replaced and what the drywall repair is about but nobody ever responded.

I recommend AHS only because it's my company's preferred warranty company, but I lately have been telling people that there are others to consider and I've heard good things about them. I was convinced that if I ever have to replace something, that AHS matches the quality of what's in the home or exceeds it. I haven't had to deal with that but if I do and I find out differently, I will never use them again.

We've had the house going on for years and we've always had American Home Shield. They're awesome. However, the first couple of times we had problems, they wouldn't help us. The contract stated that if they can't get something repaired, they would replace it but they said they had to do maintenance. We had just bought the house and everything was brand new in the house except for the things that they were saying that weren't which we didn't know because we didn't live in it.

We ended up paying $10,000 for one air conditioner the first year. Then last year, we had to pay $9,000 for another one 'cause we have a two-story house. We had to pay the fee for the guy to come out but we also had to pay for the actual air conditioner and the condenser because they didn't replace it. Everything that we have in our home was a chrome, aluminum and stainless steel but when we had to get the microwave replaced, they wanted to give us some white thing. I told them it doesn't work that way. They should give us what we have but we ended up paying $100 extra to get the stainless steel one. They should honor the product that you have in your home and they should give you that product if it can be replaced. That's the only problem that I had with them. If it was anything major, they gave us a hard time. But if they do something simple, they don't give us a hard time.

You can either call AHS or request an order online and you will still get a feedback right away. Their contractors were great. When you call AHS, somebody calls within a few hours and they say they're going to be here then they're here. AHS has always sent somebody they're supposed to send out and the contractors usually know what they're doing. When they didn't have the parts, they ordered it and told us when they were going to come back. They truly showed up and did what they have to do. They tell us everything too. The customer service at AHS is also great. We had problems with AHS last year but they gave us our first call for the year free and they honored it so that was good. I recommended AHS to my brother and he took it.

When I finally got somebody, he was apologetic about it but it didn’t fix my issues. They want to do what I ask them to but they said, unless I specify every time I call in the exact issues I'm having, they're not allowed to do anything beyond that.

The contractors have done numerous different things. The first time, they came out to snake the lines to see if there was a clog or something but they won't do that. The last time they were out, I had a roof problem and the city told me to call and specify for them to go through the front drain in my yard and to sink that out, and that was the only thing they did. It got fixed a little bit but I'm still having issues with my sink and it's not draining properly. I'm not happy with the overall value of American Home Shield. I can't even get anything set because I can't get a response. I told them three times that I would like to get a call back because I've been charged every time they have their people come out to supposedly do the work. The property I purchased out here was going to be a multi-unit and I got the warranty from American Home Shield to be able to quickly service calls and replace defective equipment as far as having tenants in. Submitting a claim is really easy. I have two accounts for different properties here in San Diego and I just go online, pick what property I want to put a claim on and then I hit submit a claim. It gives me all the options that I'm covered for and I click whatever is in question. If I have a water heater for instance, I click plumbing then water heater and I make a claim. Within 24 hours, the contractor would call me back. We set an appointment then they come out and take a look at it.

With the electrical work recently, I wanted someone with a license to come out and check the wiring. The fan itself turned out to be faulty and it was something that I couldn't determine. There wasn't really work to be done but he explained exactly what needed to happen and he explained it perfectly well. Then I got someone out to replace the fan.

American Home Shield covers all the appliances and even the things that go bad right when you least expect it. And it's quick. For instance, my dishwasher wasn’t draining and they got someone out to inspect. If nothing was wrong with the dishwasher, it was the drainage system so then I know what to fix or modify. If there was something wrong with the dishwasher, they would replace it for the cost of the service fee. It's like they cover everything. The warranty is well worth it just because you can pay for American Home Shield when you want or when you're ready. There's peace of mind with it.

I had a blockage between the laundry room and the bathroom. So I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. But after a week, it was back up again. It went on for three times and then AHS finally switched over to another company. The last contractor, they explained that the pipe wasn't large enough. However, I had to pay additional money because they ended up going through the vent and AHS didn't cover that. Nonetheless, their reps were fine and they tried to take care of the problem.

We have an open for almost a month now. Last time I called American Home Shield, I gave up after being on hold for an hour and 15 minutes, listening to the stupid music for a representative to come to the phone. From a service point of view, it is inconceivable that somebody has to be on the phone for more than an hour waiting for somebody to come on, or not being able to talk to anybody because you got tired of waiting and you got other stuff to do. If other companies allow for them to call you back, that's definitely an option.

I also wish American Home Shield would do some background check on the company that they hire. I don't know how they went and picked these people who are handling our refrigerator. For whatever reason, they have been frustrating. They called on a Monday so they can see you on a Friday and in the meantime, I got to have a cooler. Then, they had to order the part and they are coming on Friday, after one month, to finish the call. I'm just waiting for them to fix the refrigerator 'cause I don't want to antagonize them. But after they leave out, I'll make sure I'll send AHS a letter because nowadays, you can go on the internet and find information and the company handling my refrigerator issue has so many complaints out there. I don't understand how AHS still uses them.

Otherwise, I like the service. We've had the warranty for three years and in the past, we would place a claim and the process online is simple. Then immediately, somebody gets assigned. The plumbing company we had before was fine too. The person who came to our rental seemed to be very knowledgeable and although the tenant's still saying that she has some issues, the original call was for overflowing in the shower and I know the guy went in and did his job.

I've always used American Home Shield. I usually file a claim over the phone and their representatives were very nice and helpful. Though I had one problem with one guy, everybody else has been wonderful. I had a recent experience with my AC. The company that first came out to fix it put the wrong parts in. They were too small. Also, the guy who came out told me that AHS would not pay to get my AC fixed unless I paid him cash to clean the outside of the unit. I came to find out that it's not true but I did it.

Then the owner of the company came out and said that the guy has been fired. He apparently had done that to other people and he would get me the right size fan blade. So, they kept promising to come back, but they never showed and they would not answer my calls. I finally had enough, so I called American Home Shield back and they sent out a different guy. He told me they put in everything wrong. He knew what he was doing and fixed it correctly. All in all, American Home Shield should screen their people better since the first company they sent basically did everything wrong and I don't want it happening to anybody else. And although I have told them to take this first contractor off their list, I'm still waiting for the refund they promised me they'd do due to all the problems with the first company.

The people that American Home Shield has sent out were all nice guys and really pleasant to talk to. They were professional too. We asked them to put on shoe covers and they did. The only downside was we've had them out three times for the same repairs. It was a real inconvenience to us that we had to call and the biggest problem with Home Shield is when you call, they put you on hold. The last time, we were on hold for over an hour before they came on. The shortest time we've ever been on hold with them was 40 minutes. It was almost like they put you on extended hold to get you to hang up and not file a claim or come back on a previous claim that hasn't been fixed.

We put the phone on speaker and set it down then we go on about whatever we were doing but we still try to stay within earshot of the phone so we don't miss it. Eventually, they would come on and when you do get through, they're really pleasant. They have been real courteous and most accommodating. They go beyond themselves. But it seems there is a problem that they're understaffed and they can't process everything as quickly as they need to. My wife has mentioned the issue to a rep but they were just sympathetic. Besides, if they fixed the problem the first time, the people wouldn't have to call back four times. That will cut their wait time considerably for the people who have first-time calls.

The faucet in the kitchen was leaking and when the guy came out, he said the faucet needed to be replaced. He said he was going to order the part but it never came in so we called Home Shield back. They set up another appointment and sent a different guy out. The second guy who came out fixed the outdoor faucet and the toilet. He said he would get a part for the kitchen sink and when that part came in, we called Home Shield back but two of the repairs that they had previously done had broken again or weren't repaired all the way.

The first guy came back out and he said the part that came in wasn't going to fix the kitchen sink. He completely replaced the sink as it was completely worn out. He also told me to call Home Shield back when it starts leaking and that he would come back out. He would order a faucet next time but of course it was delayed. We had to call him back out and fix it. Then something was leaking in the toilet and we would hear the toilet come on and run. That was the third time we had that fixed and they're scheduled to come back out again next Wednesday. The entire experience has been frustrating. The last time, the contractor also said that if I call back, he would definitely be the guy who comes out because he's the only one left that Home Shield uses in Tulsa for plumbing.

We've been good customers of American Home Shield for over 20 years but we want to quit them. We're upset because we had our old dishwasher repaired seven times and that was a lot of my time. It was an old machine that just didn't work right and was never that bad. They didn’t fix it every time but they think they did. We had to change the configuration of the dishwasher and they told us we have to change the plumbing but I talked to plumbers and contractors and they said that wasn’t the problem. And finally, the repairman said the last time that he couldn't fix it and that we would have the company call us and replace it but it turned out that the company refused to do so.

They also said American Home Shield would be in touch with us and we got the cryptic letter saying they couldn't afford anything. It was also impossible to get through Home Shield by phone and there were often delays and they didn't always answer and we were always put on hold. It was very frustrating and not worth the savings because we could get the same care ourselves without subscribing to them. We did everything that we could possibly do and now, we're left with nothing and we’re so unhappy.

We had our microwave go out and I was told that somebody would call me within 24 hours, but that was last week and no calls. I sent two emails and called AHS, which when I finally got through, it was an hour and a half of waiting on the phone only to be told somebody would call us back. I got a message that they need the dimensions of the microwave, which was what I sent in an email, and still no resolution. I got a voicemail today saying they need me to be in front of the microwave with a measuring tape. I’ve already done that and I can tell them off hand what my microwave dimensions are because I measured them. My microwave has been out for two weeks, right before thanksgiving, which was so screwed up timing.

I still have a claim on my range from two years ago. We recently had the same tech look at it again and no resolution. They said that they filed the information with AHS stating that the model and the parts for it are no longer available, which was the same for the microwave. He's the same guy who came out for the microwave. I was told by the tech that he spoke to AHS and he was told somebody from the appliance area would call me and that the microwave is going to be replaced. But I never got the phone call back. When I do call, it’s over an hour wait and at an hour and a half I’m hanging up. I’m not going to stand all day on the phone.

The plumbing issue was taken care of very quickly. The people who fixed it were awesome and very accommodating. I am very frustrated over the two claims that haven’t been resolved. As a matter of fact, I’m thinking about filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because I’m so ticked off about this. Nobody has even mentioned my range out, which has been two years. I feel like AHS is intentionally not getting back with me because they don’t want to replace it when it’s under my contract.

My parents have American Home Shield and when I bought a new house, they talked to me and told me it was a good idea for me to get it. Submitting a claim is easy sometimes but there needs to be an option to be able to talk to somebody. It’s hard to find someone to talk to and I’ve had problems trying to get a hold of someone when I need them. I didn’t know how to go about doing it and instructions weren’t very clear to me. The last time I talked to a rep, it was not good but I got my point across. I have been having problems with my dishwasher at the time and they had sent this one guy twice from Hewan Appliances. I was wanting the same person to come back because they wanted to all of a sudden send a different person out here.

They wanted to send Sears and I said, “I’ve worked in electronics. I have an electronics background.” And I asked them, “Why would you send a different technician to work on something this other gentleman has been working on? Because now we’re going to have to start over. He’s going to have to dig from scratch when this other gentleman has been working on. He’s taking notes and he knows what he was doing.” And I said, “I was so comfortable with the other company since my wife has already dealt with them. Now, you’re asking me to try to figure out how I can be home with this another stranger coming in my home? I don’t know if I feel comfortable with that.” I wanted the same company to come back out here because I was so comfortable with the gentleman and the rep didn’t like that so we had a back and forth.

She told me that I don’t get to choose and then I said, “I’m not choosing. I’m just telling you that you already used this guy. You send them a report and that’s what I want.” And then she thought about my way and sent the same company back out. But it took me a while to figure out how to get someone on the phone to even talk to them because every time I did the automation thing, it kept sending me to Sears and that didn’t make sense. The guys who came out first worked on this thing twice and he knew what the next thing was and what to look at. The most recent claim we had was my refrigerator. It had started almost a week prior. Things weren’t getting as cold and the freezer side started to fall about on its own. The gentleman came and charged it, and we hadn’t had problems since.

Most of the time when we have someone coming to the house, we got to corral the dogs, and the gentleman was like, “Don’t worry about your dogs. I love dogs.” He patted them and talked to them. He explained thoroughly what he was doing, what he found when he was going to contact the company, and what the next steps were going to be. He talked his way through it while we’ve had people coming and have worked on a heater. We’ve had problems with our heater since we moved in and they sent a couple of different companies. This is where my frustration came in. One company came in and did this. This other company guy coming in from a totally different company said, “That guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s this.”

I’d rather settle for one that’s very knowledgeable and telling me what he’s doing. I would feel comfortable with him in my house. He came and introduced himself to me and my wife, and it made me feel more comfortable. He wasn’t just here about business. He was here to find out what my needs were and how he can help me and make sure I feel comfortable with what he was doing while being in my home. American Home Shield sends multiple techs to do the same job and they’re not always going to agree. Everybody’s going to have their own opinion. Other than that, I love them and the peace of mind they give.

Right now I have a problem with the dishwasher. The dishwasher machine is not cleaning properly at all and this will be the fourth time that they've sent someone out. The reps on the phone are doing what they're told to do. They said, "Well, we'll call someone," and they waived the $75 fee again.

They sent out a young man and he was very cordial and polite. And he's doing what he's told to do finding a part. We're going to see what happens Thursday and then it's up in the air with American Home Shield. We've been a customer for about 20 years. We live up in the mountains here and maybe that's a problem too that we can't get good service because it takes a week for anyone from Fresno to get up here. And then if they had to order a part it's another week. So I would tell a friend who would ask about them to try another company. The service has been bad.

The process was good on my most recent claim with American Home Shield. I needed to get my refrigerator fixed. The contractor scheduled my appointment from 12:00 to 4:00 and a four-hour window is a bit excessive nowadays. So I started calling at 8:00 AM on the day of my appointment. Then I called every hour until 11:00 before I spoke to someone and I asked if there was a way they can get me a shorter window because it was my day off and I had to run in around. She said she’d call the technician to see his schedule. She called me back and gave me the same 4-hour window. I was at home by 12:00 and the guy didn’t even show up until 4:45 which was later than the appointment that was scheduled so that really made me upset. I was calling but they didn’t answer their phone or even respond. I left messages initially but after the third time, I stopped, and no one called me back.

I started calling American Home Shield about 3:30 when the technician hadn’t arrived yet and their wait time was an hour on hold. And then I called back. When we want new service, people answer just like that. But if we’re calling and trying to speak to someone in reference to a service, the whole time was an hour plus. But eventually, they got it fixed. It was something so simple that it took less than five minutes. The contractor eventually had to pull the refrigerator out and there was pressure in the little valve. He had to push it up or push it out wherein he didn’t need any tools. It was the first time that I had ever experienced that. Usually, I could do everything online and it answered within that day if I put in a service request. But I would still recommend American Home Shield. I’ve had nothing but great experience with them.

I've got two different policies with American Home Shield and they're okay for small items, but when they incur larger expenses, they find ways to either decline or put the burden mostly on the homeowner. With my primary home, I had a claim for the water heater and they paid for it which was good. But they said that their contractor said that the piping was a modification so they didn't pay for that. How could that be a modification? It was a disagreement but I wasn't in the position so I told them to go ahead.

What I found out was American Home Shield does not pay the contractors as much so they force the contractors to upsell or change the wording so that the work would sound more like a modification rather than a standard thing. For someone like myself who is in the business, not only as a contractor but as an engineer, I know when something is stretched.

For the property I now rent, the person doing the repair on the air conditioner said it needed to be changed completely. I told him it always had a filter and it was not as dirty as he thought. But he insisted that it needed to be changed and that was the recommendation he gave American Home Shield. I asked him how much it would cost to change it and he said $5200. I went ahead into Angie's List and found somebody for 230 bucks. When the guy came in, he corrected the issue and was done.

Another thing I noticed was that the contractors they use are not National-recognized, or even locally recognized. They're probably giving opportunities to mom and pop shops which is good but the problem with that is they are less trained contractors and technicians. I had a problem with the plumbing and I knew what the issue was. They only paid for the toilet seat to be changed so I paid 100 bucks to somebody even though I can do that myself. I went ahead, cut the thing myself and fixed it.

In another claim, the lady said that something was covered for my pool but when the contractors came out, they said it wasn't covered. The conversation had been recorded though and American Home Shield agreed with what the lady told me so we went back and forth on that. Also, now American Home Shield has a website but submitting a claim used to be harder. You would stay on hold for 20 minutes before somebody answers. So would I renew? Maybe for the rental but not for the primary home.

I have been with American Home Shield for four years and I had a terrible experience with them earlier this year when our refrigerator broke. They had the same guy come back eight times before they finally said it was unfixable then they gave us some money to buy a new refrigerator. And when I had to submit a claim for a broken dishwasher that they were going to replace, I was left on hold for 40 minutes before I was able to talk to someone. I got so annoyed that I hung up. But when I called for new business, they answered within two seconds so I told them that their existing customers get 40-minutes wait but their new customers who aren’t customers yet get a two-second hold.

Recently though, I had a wonderful experience with AHS. I had a slow draining sink in the bathroom so I called and a plumber came the next day to fix it. The guy was really lovely. I had work and it’s always awkward when I’m on calls. But he was quiet, looked through everything and he waited until I was off the call then fixed the sink. He also explained to me what had happened and gave me some ideas on how to prevent the problem going forward.

Overall, it’s nice to know that I don’t have to look something up and I can just call AHS and they will get someone out here. But there’s definitely a sense that they’re trying to spend the absolute minimum. For simple repairs, it's good but if it's anything complicated, they’ll try and fix it a lot of times before telling me to just get a new one. While I get that, it got excessive this year.

I like American Home Shield. I’ve had very good experiences with them. One time in our other house with our air conditioning, there was a relay that was going out and the people had come out to regularly check my stuff twice a year and found out about the relay. He replaced it. It was 90 something dollars and I would have to pay at that point. It was 60 something for them to come out. And when I told American Home Shield about it, they reimbursed me for the part, so I was very happy. They’ve been very good to me.

Our latest claim is for our GE Profile Advantium microwave oven. It’s like a real oven. It does halogen, microwave, convection and everything above the stove. It just stopped working and the GE tech came out and looked at it. He just told me what was wrong, tested a few things and then said he would have to order parts and then he called me back an hour later and told me those parts weren’t available because those were discontinued and he’d exported the information on to American Home Shield. I only have the guy out on Monday so I haven’t heard from them yet. At least now they know they have to send a GE person out because the normal run of the guys don’t know what they’re doing with it because it’s a complicated piece of machinery.

The only problem lately is that when you get on the phone to try and talk to somebody, your wait is almost an hour long or more. So, that’s a nuisance. They’re trying to get everybody to go online but I’m old-fashioned. I want to talk to somebody instead of putting claims online. And I’m sure there are a lot of me out there. If I have to talk to someone immediately, I have to call at one or two in the morning to be able to talk to someone within 10 to 15 minutes. Other than that, I have had no complaints at all with the service and I have recommended them to other people.

I just put a claim on my heater with AHS. It's been 13 days and it hasn't been done yet. I submitted my claim online, and then I called. I scheduled it and someone came out. They said that they would call us back but they haven't. When we called, nobody seemed to care. Before, we had Ice Man Cooling and Heating, and I liked them. We have a new contractor but I'm not sure who's coming to look at our heater now. I called American Home Shield and they said that they have to speak to whoever the tech was that they assigned to our service order.

Recently, American Home Shield had a contractor to come out to put a faucet in my kitchen sink. He was so professional and on time. He was explaining to me everything they had to do and what was going on. He was telling me, at one point, that they could go back with the same faucet or I could upgrade because they couldn’t fix the faucet. I would have to get a whole new faucet. I told them if I'd get it for the same price, I’d just upgrade to a newer faucet. We also had a problem on being it so hard to find the parts. If I had that problem again then we won’t have a problem getting the parts because it’s upgraded from an ‘87 to a 2016. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a good while and they're very good. Keep up the good work.

Two weeks ago, one of the wires from the fuse box to the AC unit got fried and a fuse was blown. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent a guy. However, when he came out, he didn’t cut the power to the house off. So, when he went up there, he knocked all the lights in the house. So now, the board is messed up, and the guy came back out and I showed him the board and he said that it looked like something shorted. So, he came out a third time to replace the board, but now I think that he knocked the board and the module out.

That’s where we’re at now, and I’m still waiting for it to be repaired even after a couple of weeks. I’ve lost a couple of days’ work the first two times and I couldn’t keep losing days at work. The next appointment is on Friday from eight to noon to finish up. The guy made a mistake, but I love how he comes out here. I’m loving how they’re handling the issue. They call me about 15 to 20 minutes before they come, and then they’re there.

We've had several calls to American Home Shield this year and one had to do with a leak under the refrigerator, which they took care of. The most recent one was for a washing machine leak. I used to call my claims in but now that we can do it online, it's much easier. I get a confirmation immediately, nobody has to call me and it's all done. It happened on Thanksgiving, so we weren't sure if we'd even hear from anybody that weekend, but we did. They sent this company called Greens Appliance and they're always good to work with. Their tech arrived the next morning and just had to adjust something and we haven't had any trouble since.

American Home Shield called me to request my renewal in the warranty and I told them I was having trouble with the heating system of the pump in my house. So, they set up a service call for me on the phone. It was pretty easy. The person I spoke to on the phone was good. Then, I got emails constantly updating me on when the service technician would come. They sent out a technician who was knowledgeable and experienced. He replaced a part that went out and the heat pump has been a bit more efficient and effective than it was before the service. But, I had to pay a $75 service call fee so I was doing it blindly by who AHS sends out. That aside, I’m satisfied with AHS. They are a reputable provider of service and I would recommend them.

We were getting ready to sell our house and the garage opener door wasn't working. We submitted a claim online, and then a guy sent out by American Home Shield came. It turned out to be a minor adjustment, so he didn't even charge us for the visit. My wife did most of the conversation with the contractors and she said they were really helpful. They were responsive and they did call to confirm to make sure that we were going to be there. They were also very informative. When we sold the home, we worked out a deal with the real estate agent to go ahead and buy the new homeowners a one-year account subscription with American Home Shield so they have a new home warranty to continue that service with them.

It's always been pretty easy to go out and submit a claim to American Home Shield. But I don't like the size of the fee that we have to pay when we call. I talked to other people with their home warranties and they don't have to pay near as high a fee. To them, it sounds like we're just paying for the guy to come out but we're not. It's cheaper than what it would have actually cost us. But I would like for either the monthly payment or the co-pay to get cheaper.

Submitting a claim was easy and I got an immediate response. The contractor they sent was very good. He's also very nice and polite. Plus, he did what he could to try to fix it the first time. When I called back to say that it wasn’t working, he was back within a couple of days and got it all fixed up. He replaced the main gizmo in there. Now, everything seems to be working just fine. I just wish that they also covered the garage door opener.

A couple of years ago, when I first got started on AHS, I had a leakage in my plumbing. The contractor who came out said that I was imagining it and that it wasn’t real. He checked something and he told me that it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Then he went away. Later, I had a flood. They came back and got it fixed. I told them there was a leak and if they had dealt with it the first time around, I wouldn’t have had a little flood in my house. Fortunately, it didn’t do that much damage. I have an older home and I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

I had a problem with my washer and dryer. The washer could not be fixed so American Home Shield replaced it. They had to get some parts for the dryer and it took a while for them to get the parts. They got the parts and came back out. They took the dryer apart to install the new parts. But they said that it didn't really need the part that they had gotten because there was something wrapped around inside the machine. So, they unwrapped that. The machine worked but it still has the same noise that we had originally called about. I tried calling the company itself but I could never get through. So, I went back and called to put in another claim with American Home Shield and they started the process all over again. In a couple of days, they contacted me and sent somebody and they determined that it needed some parts. They might have had to re-order the parts because they haven't been back and this has been a couple of days now.

I normally contact American Home Shield online. Originally, I try to call but I found it easier to go online and put in a claim. I get a response from American Home Shield saying that they got my request and they are going to contact whomever they are going to contact. They tell me who it is and they say that the people will contact me within 24 hours to set up an appointment. But it has not been within 24 hours at any time. It's been at least two days before somebody called me back to set up an appointment. And then, the appointment is normally about a week from the time they call me. When they come out to do the initial diagnosis of the problem and they tell you what needs to be done for the next visit, it always says online that the job is completed. I don't agree with that. The job isn't completed because they have to come back and do whatever action they need to do.

I would tell friends to check with somebody else to compare. The people were pretty good but they had to come back out. I had them out for a garbage disposal, and they changed the garbage disposal on the spot. There was no problem. But there was something they left loose. So then, it had leaks and I had to call that company back. They came back and determined that there was something they didn't do completely. That was a different company.

But I had another problem with the same company, and they came out. They determined the issue as to what the problem was with my sewer line. They took pictures and told me what needed to be done. Before they came back, the company called me and told me that there was going to be an additional fee because they had to move something out of the way in order to get to the pipe that they needed to get to. I didn't think it was that big of a deal because it was just a piece of wood that wasn't even being used. They could've just cut it off and got into the pipe. But, no. I paid the $400 and something for that and I wasn't pleased. The technician didn't think it was the problem but when he went back to the company that he worked for they told him I had to be charged for it. I called American Home Shield about that and they said because the company had to do something extra, they had the right to charge me an extra fee.

We’ve had American Home Shield for over 30 years. Four or five years ago, I retired from selling real estate, and I used to say to every one of my clients to get American Home Shield and they won’t be sorry, even with new homes. But I’ve gotten to the point where I’m going, “If I have to wait an hour or something to get through when I can’t go through the computer system, I’m gone.” There are other companies out there now and this is a big issue for American Home Shield to address.

I had to call American Home Shield and when I make a call, I have to hand-carry my telephone with the speaker on so that I can catch the telephone operator when he or she comes on, and it’s at a minimum of one hour. This has happened and I had to do it a few times in the last couple of weeks. When American Home Shield posted my payment, my credit card has had a change in the expiration date and it had extended out.

The extension wasn’t working so I knew what it was. I was receiving the calls from them saying, “Hey, your card’s not working, et cetera, et cetera.” It almost got to the point where it was like, “We’re going to hang up. Call us to get this taken care of.” I tried my best to call and I called a couple of times. And then, I grabbed my phone, which I had laid down, and some lady got on there before I could get the speaker up, and she was gone. This has been a really bad experience with their phone system. I also got on to their system and it said, “Put your credit card in.” I put the same credit card in with the extended new date for the expiration but it did not do any good so I’ve called several times. I’ve gone on their system to put in the credit card and it says, “Okay, we got it.” Today, I had to call in because I had what I thought were two payments posted and it was one hour and 16 minutes to call and talk with someone.

We got it all resolved but their phone system is really lousy. However, the reps are good and each one of them had apologized, and the young lady saying, “I’m so sorry.” I said, “It’s not your problem. This is a big problem for them.” I’ve never had that kind of a problem. I call and wait for a few minutes, but not like this. Last year, I had a contractor and I called back and complained about them. Their performance was bad and it was with my shower head. The guy was a jerk and I went, “This isn’t the type of people that I’ve been working with ever.” I’m having a second call on a dishwasher. The contractor came and the dishwasher worked for a day or so, but it’s not working again. The order where you push the button to make it start doesn’t want to stop.

So, I’ve called them again and it was Al’s Plumbing. Their company was very efficient, very nice, and the gentleman who did the work was great. I’ve had always had high regards for American Home Shield, the people they’ve hired, and their workmanship. I had a washing machine once and I didn’t want to have it replaced or repaired because then I’d had to have the dryer matched up, and I said, “No. Just fix that thing.” They worked on it four or five times. Then someone who was working on it said, “They could have bought you a brand new one from its shop.” And I said, “I didn’t want to get another.” It was one that I didn’t want to get the dryer to match and I’m going to have a non-pair in there. They gave me a loan fall off for 300 bucks but I said, “I can’t do anything with that. Fix it.” And they did.

When I call American Home Shield, it’s been top notch. It has recently been with that blasted telephone because I’ve had to call them back or get something corrected. When you stand around and you carry around a telephone for an hour, you go, “This is too way out of line.” I still would recommend them, but they should understand that when it’s bad, they fix it now.

I've used American Home Shield several times and they are easy to deal with. Submitting a claim is simple too. I've got their number on my computer and I call them up. I talk to their computer and give them my account number then it basically walks me through everything. Then they email me back with my claim number and to say they've forwarded the request to the right contractor. One of the parts in the furnace was bad and that was the third in a row that the cold weather kept putting it out. A contractor came out the first two years but he didn’t do anything. The guy who came out last time ran a bunch of tests on all the parts and he found the part that was bad. That has been working good since then.

We had another claim when a pipe was leaking in the bathroom in the hallway. A guy came out from On Time Plumbing & Heating. He gave me a call that he was on his way and that he would be there in a number of minutes and he was. I went up to the attic with him the first time because it was in the middle of the house towards the back. I showed him where the drip was at then I left him. He came back down and said he would take care of it. About 15 minutes later he was back down and he said it was fixed. Apparently the contractor that Home Creations used didn’t put glue on the pipe at the joint so it had a little bit of water leaking out which got on our ceiling in one room. The contractor did a good job. We've been with American Home Shield for three years and we purchased a five-year plan. It is a good bargain in case something goes wrong. You don’t have to pay everything out of pocket.

We have had American Home Shield for over a year, and at first this company was amazing to us. I recommended them to everyone. This past year, however, things just haven't been right at all and I'm extremely frustrated. We have had the same company out to work on our air conditioner unit four times already this year. The fix only works for 2 weeks before the air stops blowing cold. They refuse to believe there could be a freon leak and then I'm billed for their replacing freon after the visit because it goes over the American Home Shield limit. I've stopped calling because it's now winter and I'm just too frustrated to deal with it anymore.

Now, my kitchen sink and dishwasher won't drain and until I can fork out an additional $150 to pay out of pocket for the plumber to go on the roof, because American Home Shield doesn't cover that, I'll be washing dishes in my bathtub. We have four children in this house including a toddler. The sink first clogged right before Thanksgiving and is still not fixed! So Christmas will be a fun time. And calling in a complaint is unrealistic if you work during the day. You're looking at a wait time of AT LEAST an hour and that is during the off hours.

I submitted a work order request on Dec 3rd due to a leak in my kitchen ceiling. It took the assigned plumbing company 48 hours to contact me regarding an appointment and gave me an 8 to 4 window for arrival. The plumber was nice but didn't do anything that a plumber is supposed to do to locate a leak. After cutting into my ceiling, he stated that I didn't have a leak but I continued to explain to him what I had experienced while pointing out the obvious signs on the ceiling and allowing the water to run continuously. After about 25 minutes, the ceiling started to leak. The plumber checked the leak but didn't have the part to repair it.

While we were able to locate that leak, he didn't resolve the issue with the leak on the other side of the ceiling. He didn't bother to check my toilets to ensure that there was not clogs as stated on the work order. He merely flushed them and stated that they are fine. I've had at least 5 calls with both, AHS and Mayes Plumbing but the problem continues. AHS requested that the plumber come back out, but the plumbing company continues to give AHS excuses as to why they shouldn't have to come back out.

In the meantime, I don't have access to my shower and constantly worried about my toilets; not to mention that the ceiling can't be repaired until the leaks in the kitchen - which I'm now told are not covered - are repaired. I've made up my mind. I'm moving on to another company. I've given AHS more than enough time to get their act together. They sent a repairman out 3 times within 6 months to repair my freezer and spending over $1300 for parts on the 3rd attempt to repair only to end up replacing. If they had replaced the refrigerator on the 2nd attempt as requested, they would have saved a lot of money. I'm done. Wish that I could rate them in the negative. Their service has steadily deteriorated over the years with no upside in sight.

I had claims for my oven, my cooktop, and my refrigerator and I did it by phone but I had a problem getting through. It was during the time of the hurricane and they were having some problems down that way where it hit. They didn't have enough people on the telephone and that was a nightmare. In fact, several days later, I held for an hour and they still didn't come to the phone.

When I did talk to somebody, most of them were nice and they did the best that they could under the circumstances. But we miscommunicated one time when I was trying to make sure that I have the right size and the rep told me that the size she had didn't seem like it would fit. I told her to cancel that until we could work it out and this was after several days that I had called and my wait time would be an hour or two hours. To put somebody on a hold for two hours several times when the refrigerator and stove are not working, that's testing your patience and sometimes, I would hang up after an hour. The reps also had to put me on hold quite a bit so they could check into stuff but the outcome was good. Greenway came out, installed everything and fixed my refrigerator. All of the contractors were nice, professional and super good but I was especially pleased with the young man who worked on installing my oven.

Towards the end, it worked out good, thanks to Greenway. But they really need to revamp the telephone and if American Home Shield doesn't do something about this, they're going to lose a lot of customers. I was without a stove and I waited almost two months before I finally got everything done. Sometimes it looked like I was being completely ignored and I got very frustrated.

In fact, I called Better Business Bureau to see what kind of rating they all had. I had really given up on American Home Shield and it probably would've been reported but my experience with Greenway was so good and I was hoping it was a one-time thing. I had been with American Home Shield for 20 years before they cut me out for non-payment and that was because at one point, the arrangement was on automatic withdrawal from my checking account and somebody put it in wrong. I called back a year ago and got back but over the years, I've invested so much money in American Home Shield and they should be obligated if something were to go wrong.

I went out to my garage and almost dumped my things in the water coming out on the floor. It was coming from one of the wall on the inside of the house. AHS gave me a phone number for a plumber which I called and got nothing. I called AHS back and said “Hey, he hasn’t answered. What’s going on here?” Then, I did not hear anything else back from them. I then called the third time, and then they said to try calling them again. I said I didn't want them because they were not answering. And every time I talked to them, they sounded like they didn’t care.

After the third call, they got another plumber in the area to come out who came the very next day and was really outstanding. I was perturbed because I said that it was leaking into one of the bedrooms, so he went in there and had some type of tool that determines whether it's water or not. Then he said that my carpet was wet in one of the bedrooms and that the padding and everything else had to be taken out so I wasn’t happy about that. He opened up the wall and was determined to find the leak. Eventually, he found out that one of the PVC pipes had a crack in it. He went outside, shut off the water and pulled off the piece. Then he created another piece, fixed it up, and cleaned up everything from where he had to cut a hole in the wall into the drywall up in the garage. Since then, everything's great with the plumbing issue, but now I have to replace the carpet in the bedroom.

I have been with AHS for 20 years now. Getting a hold of somebody is extremely difficult since I have to wait for an hour but the technicians they have sent out have been good. My most recent claim with them was for my dishwasher because its motor and timer were burnt out. They determined that they're going to get a new unit so we ordered a new one which supposedly be delivered tomorrow. I also submitted a claim for my washer before and we had issues with it because whenever the contractor was here, it wouldn't leak but when he's gone, it does. But it worked out in the end. AHS is worth the investment.

The lights in my oven had gone out and I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. The contractor they sent did a very good job. They were professional and they were on time. The oven is working fine since the repair. The lights make it a lot easier because I'm seeing the oven. I was happy with my experience and it's a good warranty system for a house that's more than 5 years old.

The dishwasher that we don't use had a water leak and the water was all over the carpet. My wife called American Home Shield to submit a claim and the contractor they sent out was very good. He cleaned up his mess which is a very important thing. However, I don’t like the way AHS advertise that they are 24/7. We had an incident last year or the year before when my AC went out during the weekend and I couldn’t get anybody. I had to wait until Monday to where they finally got a contractor. And they have to call me within those 24 hours so I waited for more than that. AHS should contact somebody to come out and take care of you if you have an issue. It doesn't matter if it falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. That’s the way I take 24/7. But, they claim that “It's 24 hours from the time you make the claim. Then, the contractor should get a hold of you." Other than that, AHS is good to have, they have different payment plan option.

The refrigerator ice maker broke so I called AHS to file a claim, then the gentleman from GE came and fixed it. The reps at AHS were professional and courteous. So far, the ice maker performs perfectly since the repair. AHS was excellent and my experience with them has been wonderful.

I had two claims with American Home Shield - my central heat unit messed up and my dryer quit working, also in the same timeframe. They came out ASAP and fixed them both quickly. I got a brand new central heat unit and then, the guy replaced the switch on the dryer. The interactions that I had with the contractors were 100 percent perfect. They did a super job, let me know when they were coming, when they were coming back, and what they had to order. It was all good. The only problem I have with the American Home Shield is trying to get a hold of them on the phone. I sat on there for an hour before and did not get a hold of them. But if you do it online, somebody calls you within 30 minutes or so. That's how most places do it nowadays, but I don't like it that way.

The microwave started smelling like it was burning and then it wouldn't start up. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the representative was very nice and helpful. She said that whoever they contract with would call me and they did the very next day. The contractor was great. He came in and looked at it. He thought it was one thing and went out to his truck but he didn't have that part. It had to be ordered so he told us it would be back in five days. I waited for them to call me but they didn't. I had to call them, although the lady said that she was about to call me when I did. The microwave had been fixed before so instead of paying, I asked about a new one and he said no but they came out and fixed it.

American Home Shield should give us at least two choices on the contractors. They just send somebody out but I've had other things in my house fixed that I wasn't happy with. But that's the person that they sent out and I didn't have a choice. Plus, most of the time, you've got to wait three days until somebody is able to get to you but I've had things go wrong in my home that Home Shield would cover but I needed the contractors immediately. If the contractor is busy, what do you do? Those are the people they're contracting with and you don't have a choice to go to anyone else. Their fee has also gone up to $75 which is a bit ridiculous. I'm already paying $55 a month and then, on top of that, when someone comes out, I still got to pay them the $75. That aside, whatever we've needed fix, we've been able to get it done.
