I had a water heater that had gone bad in my house so I filed the claim online with American Home Shield and then talked to someone over the phone because I didn’t have any representatives to respond and I had to call twice to get somebody to come. The company they assigned didn’t show up for a whole month so my house went without hot water for a while. They tried to send that company again and I refused that company. I wanted another one.
Bell and Cow was the second company they sent and on the same day that Bell and Cow came the other company showed up and they took that $80 dollars out of my account to pay that other company. I tried my best to talk to someone but the system got cut off on me two times because I was waiting so long. It was a 30 minute wait for 2 different times and I just said to forget it. I am very upset with American Home Shield.
They’re playing games or something. Although I’m sure they have thousands of calls and they don't necessarily pick on one person I thought it was strange. But It’s just this one incident that I’ve been very disappointed with because they draft my account every month and I haven’t had any problems. I’ve only used them twice, this being the second time, so I was just disappointed this time but overall they’ve been a very good service.

I recently called for a washer and my freezer. I'm not good with computers but I liked the fact that I was able to put both of the appliances in for that day in American Home Shield's website and the people from ARK Appliance came out. The guy did a thorough check of the freezer first and it was working at that time. It had been working and then not working then working and not working.
He said everything looked good with the freezer and went ahead to the washer. He tore apart something in the washer and fixed some stuff. I have an old washer but it's a really good Maytag. He said it was not working and he got it going, and he left. The next day, the washer was stuck again and I called back to ARK Appliance. They said they will handle it and ordered in a new motor. They came out a few weeks later when it got in and replaced the motor. And the washer has been working fine.
It’s really hard to get through to somebody on American Home Shield's phone. They don’t have a setup for recalls. My ice maker started not working again and I was within the recall time. I went online to try to see if I could set up a recall appointment but I couldn’t. I called ARK Appliance before I tried to get back in touch with American Home Shield. The guy said he wanted to fix it and that I was well within the 60 days but he can’t do a recall until it comes from American Home Shield. He said I needed to check with them first and then as soon as he gets the okay from them, he’ll schedule and take care of my problem. So I sat at my desk and paid bills and left the phone on speaker for almost 45 minutes and finally got a hold of them. They finally answered and they apologized for the long wait. But then she said, “Yes, you just need to have a recall appointment.”
The lady from American Home Shield that helped me was very nice. She walked me through everything and said that there wasn't a way to do it on the website for a recall but she said she would gladly take care of it for me and set me up on all that. She also answered a couple of other questions that I had at that time. Then the same man that worked on the things in the past came. He was very nice, clean cut and remembered my name, which I was very surprised because I didn’t remember his. He was only here for about 40 minutes and he worked very hard because it’s hard to get into that ice maker. He brought a new one with him and they put it in. He told me I should have ice in about 24 hours and away he went.
Since I've been with American Home Shield for a little over a year, I've been very happy with everybody who came out. I was impressed with the fact that American Home Shield's website said it was chosen by women’s groups as far as being the best for home stuff. Also, everybody has been much more prompt than the company I had before. They've been good workers and have handled things well. I'm 63 years old and I’m really bad with computers, but I’ve been able to walk through on your website and get it done almost immediately each time and up until this recall and I really value that. That’s been a big advantage.
I’m very careful about my house. It’s a big home and I’d been having to deal with lots of contractors and I've been very impressed with the speed that American Home Shield has gotten hold of people, and how quickly they responded to me and taken care of my problems. I have recommended American Home Shield to quite a few of my friends who are still with the company that I had been with when I first bought my house.

The most recent claim was for my air conditioner and I found out it was fire ants that had gone in the circuit board and destroyed it. American Home Shield called the Sears people out and within a couple of minutes, my air conditioner was good to go. It's always quick work with American Home Shield and their guys were very professional as usual. The contractors were good as well. AHS is a great insurance company that's always on time and very helpful.

We always call American Home Shield to submit claims. It’s a little bit better for us and we do it in Spanish, so it facilitates the process but it’s quite good. The reps at American Home Shield have been very professional and they take the claim. We had a problem with the dishwasher, and initially, they assigned the job to one company who didn’t call me so I called American Home Shield back, and then they assigned the contract to another company, and they came in about a week. They saw the problem, and because it was an old appliance, they had to find the spare parts that were needed, and they ordered it. Unfortunately, it didn’t work, so we had to change the appliance, and we agreed with American Home Shield to have a new one. We shared the price, but it was good.
We decided to buy a stainless steel LG dishwasher, so it fits in our kitchen. They came and installed it and they took the other one. It is very new and it’s working fine and I noticed that the noise is much smaller than what we had before, so it’s more convenient. Overall, having the insurance with American Home Shield has been a good one. And their response has always been very professional and on time.

I had a dishwasher that wasn't working and I also had my stove, my fan and my light over the stove that all weren't working. I filed claims mostly on the computer and another one I called in. The rep I spoke to wasn't warm but she got straight to business and it was real quick. The contractors who came had introduced themselves and were real cordial and friendly at the front door. They came in, asked the right questions, gave all the information and explained themselves in detail. It was thorough and I have no complaints. Everything is fine and I was satisfied.

I had a problem with my stove so I filed a claim online with AHS and scheduling an appointment was easy. The contractor they sent was pleasant, on-time and took care of the issue. He was able to resolve it in about 10 minutes so it's very quick. I've had no problems since the repair and I had an overall fine experience.

I have two houses, so combined, I have filed about seven claims with American Home Shield and I’ve been with them for about five years now. I usually call to make a claim and the wait time takes about 10, 15, 20 minutes. Their reps were friendly and their contractors were all right. My only issue is the time they had to take to come back. One time, I had a washer and they had to replace it. That took over two months for them to replace. They had to decide to repair the washer before they decide to replace it. Another problem I had was with the faucet dripping. It took a long time because they said they had to get the parts.
My upstairs bathroom in the hallway was dripping. That went for a long time too because they sent somebody to repair it and then they said they would order the part. It took more than two months before the part finally came. Right now, when they came to do the repair on the faucet that was dripping and they damaged the drywall. There's a hole in one of the bedrooms that they had to cut to repair the dripping faucet. They said they would send somebody to repair the drywall but they haven't yet. I called once and they still haven't sent anybody to repair the drywall. But I would still recommend AHS.

The process of submitting a claim to American Home Shield was fine and the reps over the phone were very good and professional. The contractor came out and replaced for me a piece on the hot water heater that went out. He was awesome, really nice and quick. Since the repair, the hot water heater is working like it was before. I've been with American Home Shield for about four months now and they're beneficial to have especially to the homeowner.

We're not always home every hour and when we'd go for errands and come back or walk into the room in the morning, there would be a puddle of water on the floor. I mistakenly thought that my daughter had left something in the bottom of the freezer and it caused the leaking, so it went on a little bit longer than it should have. I'm 72 years old and have never had this problem with our refrigerator before. I realized when the ice was building up so much that my original assumption was wrong and that there was really something seriously wrong with the operation of the freezer.
I used to submit my claim over the phone but I've been on hold for 45 minutes and then disconnected. I don’t do it anymore and have learned to do it online. I waited a week getting the assignment in a timely manner. The repairman came and knew exactly what to do. He had the refrigerator fixed in less than an hour and I was quite happy with that part. Turns out there were two kernels of corn plugging the drain. I don’t know if refrigerators are inspected when inspecting a home, but we didn’t have any corns so it was left by the previous owner. The refrigerator is working nicely and it's a great relief to have it fixed. Unfortunately, there is damage to the floor from the leaks over a period of time so the floor is going down a little bit, but there may be a follow up needed to take care of the damage.
American Home Shield is not so friendly in terms of submitting the claim or trying to reach somebody to discuss any issue that has come up. The previous claim for the furnace, I could never get through and there's no convenient email. I did not hear from them in 48 hours. I called and left messages but never got a response. The only thing I got from AHS was the email telling me of the assignment and the ticket number. We had no heat and had a couple of little space heaters, so we were quite uncomfortable and it happened to be the coldest period.
Finally, I went back to my account at AHS and the whole request had been eliminated. I never heard from anybody about this. My husband and I said we were going to go with somebody else entirely. So we spent $6,000 for a new furnace and not able to use AHS at all. This was when I was still very frustrated because I couldn’t get anybody on the phone when the air conditioner went out. I have very mixed feelings about AHS. It's either wonderful and easy to use for small problems, but I'm not happy for major problems.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

My experience with American Home Shield was great and wonderful. It started out when the air conditioning went out, which I have a combined heat and air, and a gas pipe. I submitted the claim over the telephone. I called and gave them the information such as the type of unit it was and certain things like that, and they handled it from there. They sent me an email to let me know that someone was coming out, and that was fine. The contractor was from Guaranteed Services. They worked on the unit and discovered that the furnace was bad, as well as the air conditioner. They discovered the heat exchanger had a crack in it so, they replaced the unit. They got me a unit sorted out here and plugged it in.
They were very courteous and kind and did their job very well. I couldn't have been happier with the service I got with them. I also called them up and told their office manager what a fine job they had done. I don't plan on looking any further for a company to work with except American Home Shield. They’re the greatest. I never had them with not one finished problem and I have recommended some of my friends to contact them and talk to them.

I had an issue with my AC unit and submitting a claim was easy. I had more issues with the company that came out here. I tried to tell the person in American Home Shield that they shouldn’t use that company because if you look at the reviews, they have 900 complaints. One of the technicians that came out and replaced my blower motor and some other part left all the old parts. Then he tried to sell me on a whole unit. Another guy came out and was supposed to report him. I gave him my $100 deposit and then there was a dispute. AHS said I didn’t turn it but I did. I got the e-mail and the guy’s name and they researched it and eventually fixed it.
I had friends of mine that had AHS and said that they took care of this or that. But I ended up having to come out of pocket $1,800 to this company. They said they had to bring me up to code and we need this and that which I don’t. But I got to get it done. I wasn’t expecting to get it for free but I wasn’t expecting to pay that much. I didn’t pay that much before I had AHS. I had my other AC unit and the other evaporator coil replaced. It was $1,100 with the Freon. The contractor told me that we have to drain the Freon because I needed seven pounds. I said it’s a 14-pound unit so what are they going to do with the other seven pounds. I was frustrated the whole deal. There was a 2-month period where we went without AC because I was going back and forth.
AHS is good on small things but when it comes to air conditioning units, it’s kind of touch and go. I eventually had to replace my evaporator coil and one of the ladies I talked to said they don't cover that. They cover water base units. It’s the water that comes down the grate that cools and there’s none of that down in Texas.

My refrigerator went out and it wasn't keeping cold. The contractor came out, and he told me what was wrong with it. Then he took the back cover off and said that it needed to be cleaned out. But I'm the one who got on the floor and cleaned it. He just took the back off and that was $107. So I cancelled my plan last month. Also, when I called in my claim, it took too long to talk to somebody and they put me on hold for about 30 to 40 minutes. I had to call for two days and finally got them. But they shouldn't put the customers on hold forever in a day. I'm 64 years old and my husband died in 2015 so I needed some help and got American Home Shield. I paid all that money but they didn't come to do about the situation. I wouldn't recommend them.

About 20 times now, I've tried to get American Home Shield to take my work number off because they should have my cell phone and home phone number. My work phone number is my last resort. But they still haven't taken care of that so that's one of the issues I'm having with them. Second, I really do like the concept of the whole company but there have been several times that they’ve sent contractors out to fix things and they're not being fixed. Then the last go-around that I've had with them when I called and asked them, the person could not fix what was broken and so they transferred because I had paid up front, which I know now not to ever do.
But I paid up front for that contractor and AHS was supposed to transfer that amount over the second contractor that came out to fix the problem and they fixed it. Now, I'm getting delinquent notices for outstanding amount owed. That’s why I tried to call them earlier this week. Then I was on hold for 45 minutes before I could ever speak to any one person. Then once I got a hold of somebody, she put me on hold. I was on hold for another 20 minutes and then I was disconnected. If I wanted to call back, I'd have to go through that entire whole business all over again, and I frankly was put out.
My most recent claim was my leaking air conditioning. It actually caused my roof to collapse. I do my claim online because sitting on the phone makes me crazy. If I know exactly what I need to have done, I try as best as I can to do it online. My interactions with their reps were all fine. They wanted to be very helpful. It's just being able to get a hold of somebody. I understand people are really busy and there are delays and there are peak times too, but it seems like every single time that I call, it's a minimum of 30 to 45-minute wait. There's no number that you could call back with the same issue. Just like when I got disconnected from this lady, if there would have been a number that I could have called and talked to directly to that person again, I would have called back. But knowing that I was going to have to sit on the phone for another 45 minutes to talk to somebody and then have to explain it all over again was not right.
Up until this last year, I've been very, very satisfied with any contractor that’s come out to do anything in my house. There was a time that my garbage disposal underneath the sink was dripping water. They sent out a guy to try and fix that. It worked for a week, maybe two weeks and then it didn’t work anymore. It started dripping water all over again. Unfortunately, I travel a lot, so I had to go work out of the country and was gone for quite some time. Before I could get back, I knew I was going to have to call again and they would charge me again for another service call because of the fact that I was out of my timeframe to call back and report that it was not fixed correctly the first time.
Then, we had the Harvey storm that came through here. I was getting that dripping water. I confirmed that it was not my roof leaking, that it was my air conditioning leak. I called an AC man. Then he got up there and said that he didn’t have anything to do with it. Then I had to call a plumber. They were going to send the first team out that had tried to work on my garbage disposal. I said, “No. Do not send that company again. Give me somebody else.” The next company that came out was impeccable. They were incredible. So I got everything fixed but now those poor people haven't been paid because the AC man said that he was transferring over the money that I had paid for the service that he didn’t do anything for. He said he was transferring it over to the next, which was the plumber that I had to call.
Then I kept getting delinquent notices. Also, my monthly charges were automatically withdrawn out of my banking account, so I know that that wasn’t it. That’s what prompted me to call. I made the call just Monday. They're saying that it's not payment for a service call. That's when I got disconnected. I honestly have not taken the time to call back. That was just this week. They don’t have any way of knowing what their contractors are doing unless we give them feedback.
I know this is the day when you're supposed to do everything online, but what about for older people that have to call in? My mother is 93 years old, and she's very, very conscious of everything. She still lives by herself and is perfectly capable, but if she had to go through these phone things, and listen to all this crap, and staying on the line forever, there's no way an elderly person could do that. I'm not just talking about my mother. I'm talking about anything. So there's got to be an option that allows people to get through to a person.
The one thing that I truly love about the whole concept is that when you do hire a contractor to come out through them, you can actually be notified via text messaging of who they are, their whereabouts, that they show up with some kind of identification on their shirts or their cars or whatever. That is a big plus in my book because, as people do get older, you're very cautious of opening your doors up. I live by myself, so I'm very cautious of just opening up my door. But if I can see the map and there's communication going back and forth, then that's awesome.

The gentleman that came out to fix my refrigerator didn't do a good job. I can't use the freezer part where the ice maker is because if I used it, it freezes up everything. Then the contractor showed up on time and he was knowledgeable. I explained to him that there were several different issues all tied in to that one O ring because the vent was dripping. And when I went to backwash it, it shot water out of that vent all the way down to my sidewalk. I also needed all my filters checked in the backwash. I needed to see if the manifold needed cleaning. I submitted four different claims on American Home Shield's website. They all went smoothly and their website was user friendly. Mr. Appliance came out for the wall oven and dishwasher. They were excellent and professional. AHS replaced the whole unit so I was happy. They have been helpful and I am pleased. The wall oven was delivered was supposed to be delivered in three weeks but AHS told me that it should be up in three days. They also said they would install it and haul off the old unit, but nobody ever got back to me to do the install. So, I had it installed. I was under the understanding that somebody was going to contact me but they never did. And when I got online, I looked up the information and it said the issues were complete. But I'm going to take some responsibility on the fact that I haven't contacted them back. If I had called them, they probably would have gotten somebody out there to do it.
I have an outstanding claim for the air duct right now and it has not gone so smooth. AHS didn't have a contractor in-contract with them that would do the repairs that I needed to be done so they had me contact outside contractors. They had me get multiple companies to come give estimates on repairs and each company wanted a $100 to come out. And now that I've got estimates and turned them in, AHS is telling me I have a $500 cap so the claim has been a little frustrating. I wish I had known I had a $500 deductible. For what I needed to be done, I got estimates of $8,000 and $15,000. I have an email from AHS that they're going to give me cash in lieu of repair but I don't understand whether the cash in lieu of repair is $405 when the cap was $500 and I've already paid a contractor $95 to come look at it. They're taking that $95 that I paid to the contractor out of the $500 in lieu of repair which doesn't make any sense to me.

One of my air conditioning units stopped working. I filed an online claim to American Home Shield and they assigned a reputable repairman to it. He got out there quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed it. But the AC problem was not major that a warranty had to really cover. The contractor was very polite and very professional. Our air was out for a couple of days. And we live in Florida, so it was a little warm. But the air conditioning has been fine since the repair and the problem hasn't relapsed. I didn't have the disaster where I had to replace the whole system but I found out that the part was not covered so I have to pay for a repairman and pay for the part too. It was not a normal experience.
It's still difficult for me to quite understand what's covered and what's not. There's a lot of fine print relative to the warranty. It's not crystal clear on what specifically is covered. But when you dig into the fine print, there are a thousand exclusionary things. I found out that because of a loophole in the system, one of the most expensive elements of an AC repair is replacing the coolant. However, the contract does not pay for even 10% of coolant replacement cost, which was frustrating. And so, you might end up with an $800 bill just because that's excluded in the contract. That was a surprise. You don't know anything until you have a disaster.

We just upgraded our coverage to cover everything we had. And then we pay monthly $50 but it went up to $56. We've been with them about three years now, and we've used them for refrigerator and washing machine. Recently I had a bunch of plumbing issues, and I've learned to file my claim over the phone because online, you can only put down one issue. And if you call them over the phone, you can list all your problems, which I did. I had about nine of them, and each one was taken care of. Each one of the reps I've talked to has been really helpful.
I had one contractor come out, and I was just satisfied, so I called AHS and I told them this one was satisfactory. And there's no problem, then they sent me another one. He represented himself, he had a real nice business card, and when he got here, he was dressed in cut off sweatshirts and a t-shirt, and an old crock, and this barely had the tools to do what he's supposed to do.
And then he said he was going to work on the issue, and he didn't show up. So, I went to his business address and it was just an old house where he was living. And then, I called AHS rep and told her. She got another one, and the guy came out with a truck and it was more professional looking. Also one time, I had a guy, who I thought he was a little shaky, but he did a good job. Other than that, they've always been okay.

We had two claims in almost the same day. We had our water-heater leak and then we had a washer issue. It’s been the third time, but the main thing was the water-heater leaking, and I’m not happy with them at all. It took seven days to replace the water-heater around Thanksgiving. I was a big fan, I got about four or five friends that I had them go to American Home Shield and they’re terrible. When you call them -- and I called three times in three days to talk to somebody -- I don’t want to talk to a computer. I’m 70 years old I’ve been in sales for 44 years and I like to talk to people about a problem.
Every time I call them, it was a 55-minute wait before someone would answer their phone -- how many people would wait 55 minutes? So, they send the guy out. I live in North Phoenix and the contractor almost drove 45 minutes from South Phoenix down in Chandler Area. He was a young kid, and he was pretty good. He came out and he had to get an approval and I said, “You drove all the way out here in your van to look at my water-heater, the water’s everywhere in my garage and you have to get an approval? So, you didn’t bring a water-heater?” He goes, “No, we have to look at it.”
So, he looked at it for 10 minutes and he said, “It’s dead.” And I go, “Well, I would’ve told you that.” And he goes, “Okay, it’s going to be replaced by American Home Shield and it’s going to take five days.” And I go, “Five days? You’re a plumbing contractor and you don’t have one in your van? This is two days before Thanksgiving that you can put in my house?” He goes, “Oh, no. We have to get an approval, then they have to send it from their warehouse. So, we can’t use the water-heaters in our contracting business, they have to send it.” And I go, “How long does that take?” And he goes, “Four or five days.” I said, “So, I have no hot water for five days?” He said, “Yes, sir.” So, thank God, I belong to a country club and my wife and me for five days every morning when we’d go and take showers, we had to go to our health club, take showers and all that.
So, four days later, he called and he goes, “I got the water-heater.” So, he comes out and before he puts it in he goes, “I want 403 dollars.” And I go, “For what?” He said, “To install the new water heater.” I said, “I’m getting it replaced, you’re replacing the old and broke. I have a contract.” And he goes, “Well, unless you write me a check right now, I cannot put the new one in.” And I go, “How long is this going to take you?” And he goes, “Oh, about 20 minutes.” I said, “And I got to pay you 403 dollars?” He goes, “You got to give me a check before I start.” I said, “Are you kidding me?”
So, I call American Home Shield. 55-minute wait on the phone and I didn’t talk to anyone, the kid was here, we were pissed. I wrote a check for 403 dollars and I go, “Put it in.” And he did. Then he said to me – he was on like a little dry wall pedestal and he goes, “Well, you should’ve taken this off and then you could’ve fixed the dry wall before I put the new one on there.” I said, “Why didn’t you tell me that when you came out the first time? Why didn’t you take it off with me then I could’ve gotten it fixed?” So, the dry wall wasn’t too bad as I was in the construction business. So, he attached a new one that has a secure warranty, shook my hand, and then he left.
I was home and I told my wife, “I’ve been with American Home Shield for five years and they are done.” This is what they do, they scam you on the back end, they don’t tell you about this and no one ever told me except this contractor. I couldn’t communicate with anyone at American Home Shield, and I will never do this again. Two days later, we call them right about another washer issue. And we’ve had our washer jumping up and down making noises and everything else. Now, they’ve sent two contractors out. Both times, when the contractor comes out here and it cost me a hundred dollars. I wrote again a check.
The first time they come out the guy was here and didn’t fix anything. So, I called them again and said, “This guy didn’t know what he was doing.” He came out, and they go, “Oh, we’ll send another company.” So, I had to write another check for a hundred dollars. So, the third guy came out and he told my wife, “This washer you have will last for a long time, but you can’t put it on this one cycle that most people use, you got to just put it on this basic cycle.” And he goes, “I’m not going to charge you because I’m here for two minutes, and let’s put some wash in.” The kid was a nice kid. My wife puts some wash in and it ran well. That was three weeks ago, and it's been running perfectly.
I guess every time they come out they have to charge you a hundred dollars, but this kid said to my wife, “This is ridiculous. This is the third time you’ve had someone out here and no one told you this before. So, don’t pay me a hundred dollars.” So, lately I’ve gotten four letters from American Home Shield that I owe them a hundred dollars, and I called my credit card company and canceled American Home Shield. I have until February, I have a year agreement. So, they can’t get money from me anyway and I refuse to pay them, but I can’t talk to anybody to tell them about this situation. Because I tried to call again, explain the situation, why that kid never charged me a hundred dollars – he was a very honest kid, and now they say I owe you a hundred dollars.
I have told my three friends about this and they haven’t had any problem, and they’re all going to cancel. Also, my credit is terrific, I pay all my bills but when I have a situation like this, I can’t wait until they call me and I’m going to tell them, “Well, I’ll call you back in 55 minutes.”
Hi, Paul. We do apologize if certain information is not being conveyed to you as it should. Per our records, we did contact you about the non-covered costs affiliated with the hot water heater replacement. Your recall period is for 60 days. The clothes washer was last repaired in January of 2017, your work order placed on November 9th would create a new work order as it is past a 60 day period. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you about your service work order and to discuss your request to cancel.

All three of my appliances were not working. The home I recently purchased had American Home Shield. I've previously had them and always submitted claims online, which was easier, but this time, because the policy was still in the previous owner’s name, there was a little confusion, so I had to do it over the phone. They sent out an appliance person, who said the problem was electrical, but then they sent out an electrical person who said it's the appliances. This was verified by a third party they sent out. They then sent out a different appliance company who ended up almost fixing all three of my appliances. I still have one outstanding. I got a the runaround between contractors who diagnosed differently from each other, but they weren’t rude.
Every time I call American Home Shield, I’m on hold for an hour. Because all of this was messed up, I was on the phone over a period of two weeks for nine hours. Contacting them on the phone is ridiculous. Also, there is no way to email back and forth between myself and a representative. If they had email, I wouldn’t have to stay on hold on the phone.

The first claim I had with American Home Shield was when a tech from Travis Appliances came over. He told me he was going to go and get a relay from a call which he did but it didn’t work. Also, he worked at the bottom of the stove and got the serial number but he didn't even try to turn it on and he said that the nozzle didn't turn. I told him there was a knocking in the refrigerator but he didn’t check that. He just said that he's going to replace the gasket on the top and the bottom. He also mentioned how much work it's going to be if that didn’t work like changing the compressor but I never got a reply on what was wrong with the refrigerator.
The tech returned but it was to put a gasket in the refrigerator in another unit so I called their office to find out what’s going on with the stove and the refrigerator that he’d looked up. The first thing they said was that American Home Shield will replace the stove and that I have to call American Home Shield. However, American Home Shield said that they didn't have both claims on the appliances so I asked Travis Appliances to send me the claim they had with American Home Shield. Travis Appliance emailed me something but it was not what I asked for. When I called American Home Shield, they told me that there's a missing card for the stove but I told them that when the tech came to look at the stove, he took pictures and did whatever he had to do. Still, American Home Shield's advice was to have a second opinion.
When the second tech came out, he got the stove working and he showed me everything. As for the refrigerator, he ordered the relay but he said that he also needed to order the gasket for the bottom. He looked at the refrigerator which we had the gasket replaced last week and he said that I also need to replace its gasket judging by the moisture and the color on it. I took pictures of what he showed me and I sent it to American Home Shield. He said that he can't do anything with it because he didn't have a work order for that but he said that he can verify what he saw and I just have to let American Home Shield know.
I also had a tech from a plumbing company. He gave me a time on the phone and email but he didn't come and he never called so I called him about an hour later. He told me he'd come between 11:00 and 4:00 but he didn't. I called over and over again and the phone kept hanging up. I found an email address for him and I sent him an email but he never responded so I called American Home Shield. I had to wait for four hours for the tech to come and tell American Home Shield that he didn't show up. However, he said that he showed up on the date of the original call but I didn't see him. I was there in the unit and he said that he knocked on the door but he didn't because I never heard it. When he did show up on my date, he looked at the problem and he told me that I have to move all my kitchen cupboards to get to the pipes.
I had another call. The tech went to another unit next door and he told them that the toilet was backed up and they said that’s what they called American Home Shield for. The tech took a picture under the sink and then he walked over to next door to the other unit. He never looked inside the bathroom but he told all kind of lies in the report. He put his foot on the concrete and said that we need to dig all that up and then we can find a snake on it and then they can fix that problem. He said that they can reel in a live one if we break our pipes but American Home Shield had been sued because of it before. He said that he's going to call American Home Shield and tell the rep how much all of this will cost so I got so upset and I called American Home Shield myself. I waited for about an hour after I called and then the tech pulled out a baby diaper and didn't see the problem.
Every time the tech comes, American Home Shield wants to charge me another $125 for the service. But, they don't charge if the first opinion was incorrect. Also, one of the things I can check with American Home Shield was that they made sure that the contractors give the customer copy of their findings before they leave. They can email that to me just like the email that they all send so I’ll know what’s being said about the incident because the contractors go out and tell a complete lie. It’s my word against theirs.

We have been with American Home Shield for years in various states that we've lived in and we have always been pleased with the manner in which they conduct their business. We usually get a repairman out very quickly and we're happy. When the igniter was off on our gas oven, I submitted a claim online and it was an easy process to go through. The person who came to repair was very professional, seemed to know exactly what he's doing, and had the part on his truck. He took care of it very quickly and the gas oven has been very good since the repair. It's a positive experience. We have recommended American Home Shield and have paid membership to part of our family to get them with AHS.

It’s good to have peace of mind with American Home Shield. I had an air conditioning problem and it ended up being a Freon leak. I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online and by phone at the same time because I didn’t know exactly how to do it. Their reps were really good but their contractor wasn't that great. One guy in the AC company was good but another one was sloppy. He could have fixed it right then and there but I waited two weeks for it to get fixed. A second guy had to come in and ordered the wrong part. Then I waited for the second part to come in. But they were really good about calling and following up. The air conditioning has been great since the repair. It could have gotten worse. The same company fixed it but it was a minor problem which they could have solved that same day and I would not have had to wait for the part.

I woke up in the middle of the night and I heard a noise. It was my water busted up in the attic. I couldn't do anything until morning to call AHS. I called and they said that a tech would be out, not that day, but the next day. So, I had to go shut the water off and I didn't have any water for a day. Their rep could be a little bit nicer on the phone though. When the tech came, he didn't have the part with him. He had to make another trip somewhere to get to the hardware store and come back to put the part in. He advised me to have the insurance company pay to have all the things changed because it happened again. He was just very friendly and polite. Since the repair, the water has not been leaking anymore.

Two months ago, our AC was definitely not cooling, although the fan was fine. Sometimes the AC would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Submitting the claim went fine, and then the contractor came out in a day or two. They ordered the part, which took the longest to get the order - it took at least a week and a half to get that part. It was not the super hot part of the summer though. Then they got it fixed, and it has been working fine since the repair. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

The sprocket above the chain of our garage door opener came loose. I'm a pretty handy guy but it would cost me around $230 if I'll do it myself. My wife suggested to contact American Home Shield, so I went and looked at my contract and the garage door opener were included there. American Home Shield was responsive and they called me the next day after making my online submission.
Then the technician came out the next day. But he had to leave and get some additional parts to do the piece that wasn't covered. I was disappointed that the contract didn't entail all the operational pieces of a garage door opener because there was another piece in the system that ended up costing me $200. So, when I paid my deductible and then fixed the piece that wasn't covered, it's a $325 day. I spoke with the technician and he was very knowledgeable and very professional. Apparently, they're second generation garage door opener guys. So, he's very familiar with what happened and what needs to be done. He was clean, thorough, timely, and polite. Overall, it was a good experience.

I had two claims, both with the air conditioner. I was confused on how to submit a claim at American Home Shield, so I went online and did it and found out that didn’t work. So, I had to call back in, cancel the one online and resubmit it. However, I’ve been on hold every time I call, which would be two or three times for over an hour ‘cause they hang up. So, I just turn the phone on, put it on speaker and go by my business. That’s frustrating and if I hadn’t wanted to be sure that my claim went through, which it didn’t, then I would’ve hung up. I also don’t know if this warranty works for me or not. So far it has not saved me any money, but I’m going to keep it because my house is older house and something might go wrong.
With the first claim, the company that worked on it was Day’s Heating and Air out of Cave City, Arkansas. I knew what’s wrong with the air conditioner, but I didn’t ever understand exactly what they did and I would not prefer to use them again. The second claim I had was with a company out of West Memphis, Arkansas. He was very professional, clean and personable. I couldn’t have been happier with him. He did an excellent job and I would use them again. Thanks to AHS, my problems with my air conditioner have been fixed.

There were several appliances in the recent claim that I had. My ice maker in my refrigerator wasn’t working, I had a front loading washing machine that the seal had broke, and then a dishwasher that wasn’t draining. It was slow draining even though I had gone through the proper maintenance of cleaning things. The ice maker was fixed and the washing machine seal was replaced, but the dishwasher was not repaired or replaced. The service guy basically said due to the age of the machine, that it was really more cost-effective to replace it than repair it.
So when it came back declined, I called American Home Shield and they said, “Well, because that was something you could have maintained yourself.” The rep also said that if the maintenance guy had sent just normal and tear, then they could have fixed it. I guess the guy that came out worded it wrong, but age and wear and tear are almost synonymous. But I think he was great and I’m glad American Home Shield came out and fixed what they fixed. I asked if I can file a claim or get a second opinion for the dishwasher and she agreed. When I called back later because I haven’t heard from them in a while, she said I missed the deadline and told me she sent an email.

I've been with American Home Shield for quite some time and then I left them for a year and came back to them. Their service is quick and they respond. But they are not available on phone or on email or even through chat. When I wanted to talk to somebody, I was on hold for an hour the first time I called and then another 35 minutes the second time. So I just left it because nobody was picking up. I'm really frustrated with that. And I went for the chat, but then they said it was not available. I was so pissed off.
When I had a water pressure problem, American Home Shield sent out a company. They changed something that rather deteriorated my water pressure. So I called the guy again but it still didn't work. Then I had to leave and go out of the country for two months. When I came back, I called again. The guy came on a Saturday and he was supposed to come between 11AM and 3PM. But he arrived at 3:30PM and he was totally tired. He just kept staring at the thing and then he said he forgot his ladder at the last place and that he didn't have anything to make it straight flow. I was so fed up that I just told him to go because I didn't think he knew anything about it.
I had no way to tell American Home Shield what happened, so I called the company in the morning and told them to cancel the service because their guy could not do it and he couldn't give me any information or report. They are a great company and I had services done for my pool and garage door in the last months, and they were done perfectly. But with this last guy, it was like when you're stuck somewhere and you have nowhere to go.
American Home Shield should do something about their communication with their clients. There is no communication other than the internet. They can make a column online in which you could say any other problems, so one can write down what exactly happened. Also, if you want to cancel the order, you have to go on a phone to cancel it, but nobody is going to pick. And they should be approving it in front of your order that you want to cancel it. American Home Shield should give us a time limit when you can cancel the service.
I've been telling everyone that American Home Shield is a great company. Although they are the most expensive in the city, at least you don't have problem with the spare parts and other things. But through time, American Home Shield is deteriorating rather than it is getting better.

My husband and I were working out in the garage last Wednesday. He came into the house ahead of me and said there was water all over the floor in the toilet on the first floor so we shut the water off. I got a flashlight and he said it looked like it was coming from the tank. We finally spot it and there was a crack on the back right corner of the tank, but you couldn't see it in the front of the tank. Of course this happens in the only hardwood floor toilet in the house but thank God we were home. We have a $4000 grandfather clock 10 feet from that bathroom door in the foyer, nice furniture in the living room and an oriental rug. They would have been destroyed if we were out of town and the water had kept running in there.
I called American Home Shield and told the claims representative Latisha that we're covered for this. But she left the phone for 15 minutes to look up our contract then she came back and said the claim would be covered. I set up a plumber to come the next day. But American Home Shield usually doesn't send somebody here for a week so I needed to get the water off totally. But the bottom left intake hose was still dripping after I shut the water all the way off. We had a 10 gallon bucket in here that was filling every hour and a half. But how were we supposed to go to bed? We couldn't get up every hour and a half to empty it. We didn't want to shut off all of our water either because we wouldn't have been able to take a shower next morning, flush the toilet or run the sink.
We finally thought that if we drained the tank, filled the rest of the tank in the back and then dried it out, we could take it off. It was just two bolts underneath and it was already cracked so we knew it was going to be trash anyway. We drained it with a turkey baster then unbolted and took it off, and put it on a blanket in the hallway. I also poked the fill hose from the wall and I put it in the hole where the tank had been which goes out to the sewer so it was bone dry in there.
The first plumber who came in didn't fix the problem. He told us the problem could have been due to a number of things but it most likely was due to old age. It was a 22-year-old tank and we did replace one on our master 10 years ago and it had a hairline crack on the bottom of it. But that was close to the outside wall of the house and it could've frozen, whereas this one is on an interior wall. We also had a couple of freezing nights a week and a half ago, then the next day it was 90. The next day it was 70. The plumber said that the toilet could've cracked because of the fluctuations in the water temperature. Then he said, "Either that or," and this confused us, "somebody leaned on it." Why would somebody lean back on a toilet? He said it could've been impacted by something but we're empty nesters in our 60s. Did he think we took the flood jammer and hit that thing?
Then he went outside and called American Home Shield. Half an hour later, while he was still out there in his truck, our house phone rang. It was American Home Shield. They were rejecting the claim because the plumber said we abused and broke our toilet tank. That bathroom is rarely even used. But the lady also told me that we could get a second opinion and if the second contractor disagrees with the first, we won't be charged for the second service call. I was going to be charged the second service call anyway so I said fine. Plus, if we wanted the first plumber to fix it independently, it would have been $395 and we couldn't afford it so he left.
After the plumber left, I spent the afternoon trying to find out where would get a tank ourselves to put on. We checked every plumbing place until finally the guy at Ferguson's said Crane doesn't exist anymore. Our toilet bowl and set here was a Crane and I thought we could just replace the tank on the back. So my husband and I made an executive decision. Even if American Home Shield approves the claim, they were going to give us a crap tank. So I started looking online and there were a few American Standard and Kohler tanks in stock up at Home Depot. So we took the car up there and bought one entire set.
The second plumber who came walked in and was very nice. He shook our hands and asked us what happened. He looked at the date stamped and said the toilet was old. But then he asked what the first plumber said and we thought that he didn't even know he was a second opinion. We were mad because American Home Shield told us not to say anything but they must've told him.
We told him the first plumber said we damaged it ourselves and he was like, "How in God's name?" He said that we were feeble and we couldn't have stood on the back tank. It's a tiny half-a and it's got an angled wall in it. Then he said, "Or the bolts on the bottom could have been tightened too much," which was interesting because the first plumber was the one who last worked on it when he put the fill valve in April. The second plumber also put a quarter turn valve in, a little nut and bolt, at that hose right at the wall and said that would shut the water off completely.
The plumber called American Home Shield and said the problem was due to normal wear and tear, that the tank is 22 years old and that tanks break. I don't think it was the tightening of the bolts either because when I took the tank off, I didn't feel that they were too tight under there. Then the plumber informed American Home Shield about the customer-supplied toilet which was $259 plus tax so it was $280. I figured American Home Shield would give us back the labor that we paid him on top of that but they called me the day before and said they were only giving me $133. I was praying again but I just am sick. Otherwise, we've been very happy with American Home Shield. They had to go on the plumber's say-so and it was very mean of him to go outside and say what he did after telling us in the hallway that it could've been water temperature or age. But American Home Shield has been very good to us.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield had to do with the heat and air. My wife called in initially and there was a really long wait. So, we went online and submitted the claim that way. We had AHS contractor come out initially because it was not clicking on properly and it was freezing up. When they came out, they cleaned it really good and changed out the capacitor on it. And about a week later, it got cold and we switched the thing to the heat and it was doing the same thing where it wouldn’t come on. They sent out a different company or a different service person the next time and he found that the thermostat was the wrong thermostat for the house. So, he changed it. The heat wasn’t hooked up and when we switched it to heat, it blew something in the system, but it's working great now.
The contractors were both very nice. The man that came out the second time was super nice. Since then, we've had no issues. When moving into a new house, you never know what you're going to end up with. So, it's nice to have AHS knowing that if something goes out or was installed improperly, that’s included in the coverage and the cost will only be $75 and not the full amount. However, I wish they could come out a little sooner because it happened on a weekend and with a child in the house, we'd put on more clothes. We're in Florida and cold to us is when it hit 50. The coldest we got in the house was 66. So, it definitely could have been worse if we were up in the northern part of the country. But other than that, I have no complaints and I would highly recommend AHS.

But if something breaks, she calls me and I could just call one number and American Home Shield will take care of it from there. Then I just have to pay the service call of $100. And that is worth a million dollars to me.

The top side of the attic that I use was creating a leak in my ceiling. There was some overflow in my AC's drip pan, and the PVC pipe that comes out of there and goes outside was clogged. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was excellent. They're very prompt to come out and take care of the issue. I pay my $75, and I'm a happy customer. I've used them many times on several of my properties and I’d recommend them to my friends.

We've been with American Home Shield for about 5 months and we've been happy with them. My wife usually submits a claim over the phone and I've also done it online. They are reasonably easy to work with. However, they put you on hold for a long time. Plus, if you call in at the end of the day, they might put you on hold and leave you on hold forever. We had a built-in GE microwave with an oven which was built in 1985. They shared control panel, and at some point, the control panel LED stopped functioning on the microwave, so I couldn’t control the settings on the microwave. A person came in and they attempted to find parts, but the parts were not available so they decided to go with a replacement. However, that has not yet been installed.
We've been dealing with the claim for three weeks and they were fast. They spent a week or so looking for parts. The contractors were fine and we've got the installers scheduled for Wednesday. But we're not sure if it's going to fit because we can't find the space to put it in. We'd feel better if the person who comes out was willing to make adjustments, but it's a service they don't provide. I spent an hour trying to get a hold of AHS before giving up. We called the contractor and decided to take a chance. If it doesn’t work, it'll have to be adjusted. It introduces some uncertainty into the process, but maybe everything will go perfectly. But so far, American Home Shield has been fine.

I've used American Home Shield for 10 years, and what's been going on lately has been a nightmare. I had a stove wherein the outlet was not working, and when the second one stopped, we just let it instead of calling American Home Shield. By the time that I called American Home Shield to get it fixed, there were several parts that had to be ordered. The service request was in, and I was trying to find out what was going on if they’d ordered the parts. There's no communication to let me know what's going on, and it's very aggravating to me. There's no follow-up on it at all. The whole experience was a headache.
The claim before that was in apartment B. The techs came out and said they would replace the stove. I didn’t even know they were ordering the stove. Nobody from American Home Shield communicated with me at all. The techs brought the stove, which had been on hold for two weeks. I didn’t even know that it was there. It sat on the floor over a week before anybody even called me. I called the people that did the service and they said, “We don’t put the stove in. We submitted this to American Home Shield.”
I have my home and I have a fourplex. I always get the service company number in my home, so I can be there and I can talk to the reps myself when they come. With the apartment, the AHS reps don’t call me and say they're coming. If I had known when they were coming, I could be there. There's no problem submitting the claim, but once the claim is submitted, there's a communication problem. I kept calling AHS and it took three weeks to get to them. The last three times I've called, I have had to hold on the line one hour. But now that the work is done, it's fine. They got the part in, everything is working and we're happy about it. American Home Shield is great and I've probably recommended their service to at least 8 to 10 of my friends that have gotten them in the 10 years I've had.

We’ve had one contractor, Plumb Genius, that we have had multiple problems with. We have asked American Home Shield to not send that company to any of my addresses and they said that they'll put it on a vendor list that I don’t want. Then someone called in a plumbing problem and we got them again. I called American Home Shield and one person told me that I'm not allowed to request or deny a certain vendor. Some time recently, when we needed a plumber, my daughter did the claim online, and they sent a note saying it would be that same company that I do not want. My daughter said that that was the only one they had available and something needed to be done. And I was really not happy. The contractor told us that there’s a leak in the slab and he was going to have to get a jackhammer and tear up the floor. It was going to be very expensive and of course, American Home Shield didn’t cover that.
And so, I called AHS and talked to a very, very nice man and said there’s no problem with putting Plumb Genius on a list. I told him a couple reasons why and he asked me if there was a company that they had sent out before that I would like to have come out. I said yes, and he got it reassigned. The second contractor came out and everything was peachy-keen. They said something completely different. So we actually hired a third plumber to come out because if we did have a slab leak, we really did need to know and we certainly didn’t want Plumb Genius doing it. So the third plumber that wasn’t involved with American Home Shield agreed with the second plumber, that everything was cool. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I love the service that I have received from Home Shield, and when I ordered the insurance policy, I liked that I was able to pay a minimal fee for a retired senior citizen. Seniors like me who are by themselves don't have a lot of money, so it is good to have this kind of service where you can rely 100% on a company sending you somebody who would fix a problem and you don't have to pay until they send a bill for what was done and it's a fixed fee. Also, Home Shield is a smart way for people to take care of home maintenance because they're not going to send in anybody out unless they are people who can be trustworthy.
Home Shield sent out a company for my plumbing claim recently and they did okay but I had to wait for them to come back and have the parts to the problem, and I was without the use of my ice maker for several days during this season. If they have had all of the parts at their office, it could have been done quicker. It is also a 2009 appliance so it is relatively new. They jerry-rigged the line leading from the refrigerator to the basement, and our water outlet from the street where the water comes in, and it took some time which I did not mind. I am a patient person and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but not having the part and having to come back into our home again was a bit frustrating for me.

I recently had an AC claim with American Home Shield and my experience was great. The heater sensor was out and they replaced that so it was staying hot now. Submitting the claim was great. Their reps have been nice and this experience was better than the experience I had with them last year because I did not think that I really understand how to do things then because my coverage was a little bit different than I thought until they explained everything it to me. I had one contractor last year when I had plumbing done but I wasn’t really feeling him. But not bad enough to do a major complaint. But this air conditioning guy, I could've just kept him. He was nice, concerned and was really, really thorough in doing and checking my filters. Things that you don’t have to ask. Just checking everything out for me. So, he did a really good job.
The AC was out of whack six days or so before I realized what was really going on. It was just running, running and running. And my electric bill shot up in that week. Now, I can already see the big difference in my electric bill. It’s working great now. I just looked at my bill yesterday and it was great. I’ve been recommending them. I’ve been telling people, "You need to get American Home Shield."

There's a fault to American Home Shield's system. When you pay in advance, there is no way to cancel the order. Before the people came out, I ended up fixing it myself because it was just a switch that was done the wrong way. So then I cancelled with the pool company. They've got my $75 and there's no way to get that money refunded, which is ridiculous and there's no way to cancel. All you can do online is tell them it was either completed and then tell them how great they are. Those are your two options. And then when I called, I was on hold for 55 minutes. And even then, they didn't refund the money.
The pool company ended up working with me and they were super nice. I told them I needed them out for something else that wasn't covered and they said they'll give me a credit for the $75 because they were going to end up getting that from American Home Shield. So the actual vendor fixed it for me, but American Home Shield didn't do anything. From now on, I will never pay in advance again. And American Home Shield needs to control their hold times and there should be a call back option. There is no business in today's world that should leave you on hold for 50 minutes. If they can afford all those dopey commercials, they can afford to upgrade their phone system.

I came home one day and my refrigerator out of the blue wasn’t working. So I put in a request for AHS and I did not have any problems either with the company contacting me or the person coming at the requested time. The company that came out to repair my refrigerator was extremely nice and much more pleasant than what I would’ve expected for somebody that's contracting with another company. And even though it took some time which was a little bit frustrating since the tech had to come back three times, everything worked out.
At times, I have heard people say they don't think AHS is worth it but I think it really is. It gives peace of mind and I haven’t had any problems with AHS for coverage. For whatever they cover, they just send people out to repair it. And for the things that are not covered, they are always part of the deal and one just has to know that. Overall I would recommend AHS to anybody.

The people who did our roof 15 years ago had put a roofing nail through one of the air conditioner’s wires, and when we recently had roofers tear off the old roof, they ripped it up and tore the insulation of the wire. They finished their thing, and the wires were sticking up. But they had pulled the fuse box on the air conditioner. So, we needed somebody to come out and fix it because we weren’t sure if it had blown the air conditioner, or if it was simply disconnected. So, I called American Home Shield and got an automated voice that asked for my contact number, as well as the problem. It then told me that they will contact the service provider, and they should be with us the following day. They also give you a claim number to call back and follow up on in case the service providers didn’t come. Then they warn you about their $75 service fee. It was a really quick call, and I didn’t have any trouble with it.
Our AC was off, and I wanted somebody who knew what they were doing to come out. A really nice kid from the service provider went up and said that he put it all back together, and I said, “That’s fine.” It was 75 bucks well spent. We had AHS since ’88, and I’ve just rolled it over every year. They’re not fantastically expensive. We’ve had them do quite a bit of stuff, and we’ve had a fine experience with them.

My refrigerator went out. I tried to put the request in online but, for some reason, it wouldn't work so I ended up calling. I was on hold for an hour and something. When someone finally came to the phone, she said to hold on and she was transferring me to the contractor who will come and fix my refrigerator. The phone was just ringing for that particular company. I had been trying for two days and I ended up calling AHS. I told the rep that nobody would pick up. She said to hold on but she never came back. I was on the phone for 15 minutes and it just hung up.
I called back and was on the phone for about 45 minutes before someone answered the phone. Then they clicked over and hung up the phone. Again I tried because I needed my refrigerator. This was done in the course of one day, so it was like almost four hours. The last time was when someone picked up the phone and made everything good. She was awesome. She took my number and promised that if she lost my call, because she had to call the contractor, she would call me which she did. The contractor did not answer so she set me up with another company and sent me the email immediately with all the updates. From there, it was great. But trying to get through was a nightmare.
The contractors were very nice, came out timely, and very cordial. Everything was done and put back in place. It was a good experience with them. AHS needs to do something with the wait period and getting through to the customers. If they want the customers to be able to put the claim in online, then make it accessible. If a customer has something pending, have some way that we can go up in the queue or have an automated thing that will let us leave our name and number so we won't lose our spot and they'd call us back versus keeping us on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes. It was outlandish.

We had an awesome experience with American Home Shield. We had a faucet in the bathtub of our hallway bathroom. My husband was taking a bath and the faucet blew off. We looked for a faucet and thought that we'll just fix it ourselves, but realized that the faucets we were looking at were not going to do the trick. It was a Saturday and we thought we'd call on Monday and get a plumber to fix it for us. I was in an extra bedroom and the carpet was all wet. I told my husband that we had a problem and that we had a leak somewhere. We pulled back the carpet and the padding was all wet. So I called American Home Shield and told the rep what the problem was. She was very helpful and before she even had all the info, she already called and dispatched the plumber. She told us that it was a serious thing since we had wet carpet on the floor.
Within 15 minutes, someone from Lovett A1 Plumbing called us and told us that he would be here within 20 minutes. He came out and spent a couple of hours here. Plus, he also tried to find a faucet that would work. He had to cut a hole in that wall of the bedroom to see where the leak was coming from. It was behind where the bathtub faucet was. The water ran back behind the walls somehow and came up under the other wall. He cut two little holes in my bedroom wall and he kept monitoring it through the whole process. Plus, he finally found a faucet that would work. He fixed it and had to work with the copper pot that came off the wall, where the faucet was attached. He worked very well and I really appreciate him.

I noticed a very wet spot on some carpet in the basement but I could not figure out where the water was coming from. So I called and had them send out a furnish guy since the wet spot was a couple of feet in front of where my furnish is. The first guy came out and said that it's definitely not my finish. It was a plumbing issue.
So then we switched and we had a plumber come out. I had to rip up some of the carpets. We then realized that there's a french drain under the carpet and for some reason, that sewer was blocked. We tried to replicate the problem because it wasn't backing up anymore no matter what we did until we finally poured water into the actual drain and it backed up. Immediately, he snaked it and cut it out. He noticed something was in my hot water and it probably needs to be replaced. He gave me a price that was very reasonable so I'm going to call them next week and schedule to have that replaced.
But I had some bills showing up from AHS and they were charging me for the first people that were coming out. I called and told them that I'm unsure about it, but the guy didn't do anything. All he said was I had to call the plumbing people so I don't really understand why I'm being charged for the heating and cooling people who came out. And then I had a charge for the plumbing people and I said that I paid them when they were here. The customer service representative was able to realize why I was being mischarged and she assured me that I don't have to pay anything extra.
The customer service representative was extremely nice. As soon as I explained the problem she was very accommodating. She was able to pull up my records and saw where the problem was. Though it took her a while to get it rectified on the computer she kept coming back on the line saying "I'm sorry it's taking me long. We'll get it figured out." And then she did come back and she said, "Okay. It's all taken care of. She then gave me confirmation numbers and said that it takes about three weeks to go through accounting. She added that I may get some additional bills but my confirmation numbers tell that everything is paid in full.
Since the repair everything has been fine. Though I don't understand why that sewer became clogged because the people that lived here before me were pretty meticulous with the house. It might be some type of a weird drain that's not in use very often. I'm a single mom and some of these repairs are all new to me. And owning a home by myself for once it was reassuring to know that I had people at American Home Shield to help me through it all. Everybody was extremely helpful at American Home Shield and they got things fixed right away.

The guy that came out tried too and had a heck of time getting it to stay lit but finally he did. He fixed some little wires but he said it probably would happen again, so it was a band aid type fix that wouldn't last. T
Later on, I got an email from American Home Shield saying something about a new water heater. I called them up to make sure that they pay because I knew I had to pay for the upgrades. My water heater was put in the 1970’s and I knew that there were things to be done to get it up to today’s code. I was on hold for over an hour and I was red hot by then. I hung up before I exploded. Finally I gave up and then the plumbing company got back with me and told me that they had contacted American Home Shield. They decided, with the plumbing company’s recommendation, on a new water heater which I think was greatly needed. So my water heater is in and done.

We had a leaky kitchen faucet and so they came out to fix it, including the garbage disposal. It was originally working okay, but then it started not to drain properly. The plumber came out and assessed the situation. He was great and very prompt. And then, about a week later he came back with parts as replacements. Everything went smoothly from there.
Calling them is a nightmare but submitting the claim online was very easy. Within 24 hours, I get a call from whoever has been assigned to come out and see us. However, claims that have had to be resolved outside of the normal realm of things have walked by. The follow-up call has been frustrating because of how long they had to attend to me over the phone. But ultimately, everything has been resolved.
The contractors they send out are mixed. We've had very honest contractors and they are frank with us with regards to their ability to fix things. And so with the garbage disposal, they told us that the part I've had installed was the lowest end of the line and that's what they can offer. But there's an option to upgrade with an additional amount. It's because American Home Shield requires the exact same replacement for what the contractors are taking out, which is just their policy. Overall, I've had a positive experience with AHS. This is our first time owning a house and we don't really know who to go to, so having AHS is a nice exposure.

I've been with AHS for so many years and I've had a lot of trouble with them. Last year, I fought with them over a drier. It was two months of back and forth, different service reps coming out and me having to take time off work to be there. It was a nightmare that should not have been. They finally replaced it, but they should have done so from the beginning. Plus, I got the cheapest drier I could get because they would only give me a few hundred dollars for it.
I also had a washer and having it replaced was another ordeal but it was done. The air-conditioner was the worst one. It went out on a Friday, about 2:00 in the afternoon. We're in Arizona so it was 115 degrees outside. I called American Home Shield and I put in a work order. The rep said the contractor couldn't get there until Monday. I canceled the work order and called somebody on my own to get it fixed. The people I got told me that all American Home Shield was going to do was to keep putting parts in and get the AC to run. They didn't replace very quickly. I ended up getting a new air-conditioner since the previous one was so old, 26 years old.
I called AHS and was told to send in the receipts for the AC and to make an appeal to them. They denied me because they said I didn't follow protocol because I should have called them back and maybe they could have gotten an emergency person out there. But I thought I followed the protocol because when I called them and tried to get someone out there, they couldn't be there until Monday. What was I going to do? I am not happy with American Home Shield and I would not recommend them. The whole idea is if they can't fix something, it has to be replaced. The process was such a rigmarole to go through.
AHS also keeps you on hold for so long and when you want to talk to a supervisor, they put you into them and you leave voicemails and nobody ever calls you back. They're horrible. I understand that AHS is a large company but they should get people to work. We all pay our bill on-time and they work for us. Also, I forked the money out of my own pocket for the AC and I should have technically had it covered. The best thing AHS could do is to reimburse me my money. Overall, I still have AHS but I have very minimum on there.

I had a leak in the water heater, so AHS had to replace the water heater. I called to file the claim and explained to them that my water heater was not working properly, that it had a hole at the bottom of it. They said they would send the recommended company that they would choose out to look at it, they looked at it and I paid $487 for the new water heater plus the $145 deductible.
Their reps were receptive and professional. I called and they said that they'd have to go through ES Plumbing. They would have to use their people to come look at it. However, I had to wait two weeks before they delivered the new water heater, which was tough. We got cold weather here, but I made it. Their demeanor was good. Everybody said we got to make sure everything is put back right, and it's up to code.
Everything is working good now. ES Plumbing put in the water heater, took care of the faucet in the bathtub and they did a good job. I'd recommend AHS. I've never had any problem with them. I've had the policy for a couple of years now but I was a little dissatisfied that I had to pay $625. I thought it might have been a little bit less but I'm glad AHS took care of it. I received a very efficient company to take care of it. I thought the $145 deductible was fair. I just thought the extra $487 that I paid was a little deceitful.

Some things with American Home Shield have been really good in the past, but some things were not. We had a horror story with the refrigerator. My husband complained tremendously about it. I had to transfer things to coolers into our garage refrigerator on a regular basis for about three months. It broke down three different times before we finally could get a refrigerator that worked. And then with the washer/dryer situation, it went on for over a month. The agitator was sucking it under so it was ruining clothes. And it was an inexperienced service person who came out the first and the second time. The third time, we got somebody who knew what they were doing, and then we finally got a really nice new washer. With the microwave, we were quite surprised that American Home Shield didn’t immediately say that they would replace it. It was a used microwave and around 20 years old. They said they were going to repair it.
My husband always starts the claim process online and I would speak to their reps at times. They have been lax, delayed, and they have racked up service calls and payments when it was unnecessary. They could do better. Some of the contractors are good, most are excellent. And if we don’t like them, American Home Shield can reschedule with somebody else. It hasn’t been always the best experience with American Home Shield, and since we were stuck paying and needed the service, we have to go with it. And the delays are so that they could keep charging for service calls.

American Home Shield is a good company and I'm glad that I have them. I'm on my third year with them now and I have recommended them to several people who now have them as a warranty company. American Home Shield covers plumbing, electrical, and major appliances and having their home warranty is the best investment one could ever put their money into, especially because things happen. A homeowner already has got to worry about utility payments and it's so much stress when an appliance goes out. Our AC went out in August and it was inconvenient because it was hot then. I contacted American Home Shield by phone to submit a claim and everything was fast and went fine. Everything was good with the representative who took down the information. The next day, we had a contractor show up and he went to the unit and fixed it. He turned on the AC unit and everything works fine. I was happy.

Our coil went out, so I called American Home Shield to set up an appointment, and their representatives were very nice, helpful, and told me what needed to be done. They sent out contractors to assess the problem, and they were very professional. They told me what was wrong, then we set up another appointment, and they came back to replace and fix the coil. They did a great job, and now, the AC is working fine. AHS called, followed through, and lifted our problem. I’d recommend them.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several different times with different houses and I’ve always hated it because I dreaded using the service which took so long. The people were generally so inexperienced and amateur-ish when they came out. But the last two times had been exactly the opposite. It seemed like from the outside looking at a very well oiled machine. I submitted the claim online and I immediately got a reply from American Home Shield and from the technician who came. The guy even called before he showed up. The repair happened in less than 24 hours.
I asked AHS to come out and fix my heater to be sure it was safe to run it for the winter time. Then I made a follow-up to my last request to them that I wanted to be sure that all condensation had a way to drain out since there was a bit of water accumulating in my drip pan and a blow in my air conditioning unit in my attic. The guy who came a couple of weeks ago for the drain problem was the same guy who fixed some moisture that had seeped through our ceiling. He knew exactly what to look at. Besides him, the other guy was personable and I start over explaining to him what the last guy did. He talked to us and told us what he was doing and it was a great interaction. American Home Shield is great and easy to do business with.

I have submitted a plumbing claim by way of a telephone call and the American Home Shield reps were responsive and attentive. They wanted to know when the problem occurred and what the problem was, and then they assigned a plumber, immediately gave me the number of the company and told me when I should expect a call from them. I got a call from the plumbing company within 24 hours and the company was sent out at the time that American Home Shield promised. The contractor arrived on time and they were very efficient. They came more than once but each time they were doing something different. They explained everything that they had to do and everything that they would be doing as a follow-up.
That problem was fixed but I have been waiting for a couple of weeks for these other problems to be addressed. There was moisture on the wall so a restoration company had to come out and open up the walls and put fans. They are scheduled to come this week to close the walls, texture the walls, paint them and put everything back in place. The response time with American Home Shield has always been very prompt and I am satisfied with the service.

I've had several appliances break down and American Home Shield has come out and fixed them. The most recent one was for my refrigerator. The contractors who came were professional and did what they were supposed to do. They say that they track their people with GPS and they know where they are. For instance, if I call them for a repair for my washing machine and they come out. They say that come in Tuesday at 1 o’clock and I’m not there. I said, “No, I’m here.” They don't show up until they charge you $100 fee regardless of whether they showed up at the right location or not. And we have no avenue of recourse.
And if we were to cancel our contract with them then they give us the cancelation fees and penalties and everything else that goes along with it. So it’s much cheaper just to bite the bullet and pay the $100 and go on. Because they probably do that a thousand times a day. Who knows? So I’ll probably won’t take AHS again when it’s time to renew it.

The only thing is one guy didn’t know if I was supposed to pay him so I gave him a check and then later he called me to say, “No, you weren’t supposed to pay me” so he tore the check up and I was billed later, which I paid. The technicians were very capable. I'm going to call and make an appointment for a plumber, though, because all of the toilets make funny noises and it makes me nervous. About three calls that I have recently with American Home Shield were satisfactory in terms of the technician who came to diagnose and order the parts within a reasonable amount of time. I have two real concerns, though. One is if I want to keep a specific contractor who I've had a prior good experience with, I cannot do that on the website. And two is in a plumbing claim, for example, if I want to add an additional plumbing item that I've found, I also cannot do it on the website. These simple things I have to put in a call to talk to a claim representative and the typical wait time is an hour and a half. That has constantly been the experience. That is just too long to wait to talk to someone in the claims department.

We had a problem with our heater, and American Home Shield gave me the name of the contractor. Then the contractor contacted me, scheduled my appointment for a week later and they told me that was within the guidelines but that didn’t end up working out. The company ended up calling me on the day they were supposed to be here and said that their tech called in sick and that they had to put me at the end of the list. They refused to work with me at all and the girl told me they can’t pay overtime to somebody just because they can’t have somebody come out. She made a big deal about how the tech that called in sick was going to come in on a Saturday, which was another five days later, to cover his appointment that he had for that day.
I said that I should be up to the front of the line with a different technician because we’ve been waiting for eight days. The girl really had no idea but she was just saying they're not going to pay somebody overtime just because of that reason. I said that if they have an appointment scheduled, they can’t tell me that they will not pay overtime pay. That’s their business. To tell me that they’re not going to pay somebody overtime when they’re overbooked and they can’t meet their appointments doesn’t make sense.
I mentioned that when I called back to them after they cancelled with me because they were telling me my only option was that next Saturday and my husband was really upset about it. He said that there was no way we are working with them. I was not happy about it so I called back American Home Shield and I explained the situation. They said that since I was over their seven-day approval time, they allowed me to switch to a different provider and they found somebody. The lady put me on hold and found somebody right away and explained that I’ve been waiting forever to have my heat fixed. We had no heat for over two weeks and we were using space heaters. Somebody called me back right away within a half an hour of finding a new company. The reps were really friendly and helpful.
The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is I cannot get a hold of them. I have waited four times for at least 40 minutes on hold to try to get a hold of somebody. There are certain things that I can do on the website but there are certain things that I can’t do. The problem is they don’t answer and there’s no way to make the call to get somebody any quicker except when they want me to renew. If I call the renew number, I don’t get a hold because they want my money. Not all people have 40 minutes to wait on hold. They really need to change that.
Also, when we bought our home, the seller gave the warranty which he only paid $280 and it didn’t cover all that much. One of the techs that came out to our house said that all my stuff was right about the time when I was going to start having a problem so he recommended renewing the warranty. When we went to renew the same policy with the same coverage, it was $408. I was pissed about that. But I ended up renewing and I added AC to my renewal because that wasn't included in the warranty. Other than that, the contractors have always been good and my experiences have been positive.

We had two separate claims which both happened the same week. One was for a refrigerator and one was for some plumbing issues. The refrigerator claim was easy to submit. We were contacted right away and the repairmen came out right away to fix it. It was a maintenance issue that we weren't aware of and the contractor even showed us what to do in the future. The repair was flawless and the refrigerator is fine now.
With the plumbing issue, we were encouraged to submit the service request online. We did it but the options given did not specifically apply to our issue. So, we chose the best option and when the plumber got here, he refused to do some of the work because they were not in his work order. We called American Home Shield and it took us an hour to talk to a person every time we called. AHS was able to adjust the work order for the repairman to do the work but it took two appointments because the first time he was not able to work with the type of faucets that we have in our home so he left without completing the work. Then it took several phone calls to get AHS to reassign that service request to someone else until it was eventually taken care of. It was frustrating and it took full two weeks before we got somebody to complete the repair.
The plumber who came out showed us what was wrong but he couldn't fix it so we eventually got it fixed on our own. He was borderline rude and we wouldn’t ever use him on our own. In the end, we paid the service charge when the refrigerator guy came and we did not pay the service fee for the plumber the first time because he did not complete the job. But we paid it the second time when he completed one of the two issues.

The most recent claim I had was with the air conditioner and the heat pump, and the AC people came out three times. The tech came once to check it because it was not cooling and he ended up putting a coolant in. He wasn’t sure whether there was a leak or not, so he put in something that would show that there was a leak. A couple of weeks later, it was not cooling again, so I called American Home Shield and the tech came out. He found two leaks, but he wasn’t sure whether he got all of them and he pressurized it, and he came back this past Monday. The pressure was up so there were no more leaks, and he put the refrigerant back into the system, so it's fine.
I also had a refrigerator claim and the only problem I had with it was that American Home Shield immediately contacted Sears. After three to four postponements, Sears got somebody out there who did absolutely nothing. I reported that to American Home Shield, and they immediately switched to another contractor. It is always very easy to submit a claim and I always call to make sure that everything gets put in properly. I’ve filed claims on three different things but American Home Shield only covered one of them. A plumber came out because there was a leaky toilet. He replaced the flapper but he put in a wrong kind of flapper and I paid the $75 deductible. We thought it was fixed at the time but it wasn’t so I waited for something else to go wrong before I have them come back.
Then the hot water dispenser started leaking. The technicians came back and replaced the flapper again and the flapper was fixed on the toilet. But, they said that the hot dispenser was not covered. They told me it would cost $80 to fix it so since they were right there, I gave them $80 to fix it. All they did was tighten some things. Then, I had an inspector come out to inspect the stovetop since it wouldn't start. They told me that I should have called AHS so they could fix the stovetop. An appliance guy came to look at the stovetop and said that it was water damage so AHS would not pay for it. The repair cost $500 to fix it so I’ll just use a match to light the stovetop.

They don’t care so many times. The guy sent by AHS for the furnace was on it for three minutes. He says it was something with the blower. My wife says, “How did it happen?” And the guy just said, “You tell me.” We’re paying him to fix it, not to try to have us guess. He then adjusted the fan. Sometime in November, the drum inside my washer stopped moving so it wouldn't spin clothes. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it's not really hard. However, there's always an hour wait over the phone if you have a problem. And then, when you finally get through, they send someone out. But the guy was in my house for just two seconds and then he left. He said that they will order the part. I looked online on my account and it said, "part ordered." Yet, nothing was heard from the company or AHS for days.
I finally called them and after an hour of waiting again, they told me that the contractor denied my claim because I broke the washer but I didn’t. It's ridiculous. They said they’ll send someone else out to take another look at it. That took days. Finally, someone came out and he said that they will find out what the problem is, and then they will order the parts. Days went by and we never heard back. I called American Home Shield again and after an hour of waiting, they told me that the parts aren't available anymore so they will instead give me a new washer and dryer. I have a problem with calling every time and being on hold for an hour and then getting rude people on the phone. And on top of that, there’s no communication without me calling in to find out what’s going on. Nobody’s calling me to say what's going on. It's not very good and something is not right.
They find are the bottom-of-the-barrel people. They do not hold those contractors accountable for anything. For example, when the guy said my parts were on order and then the next thing you know, my claim was denied and nobody could ever answer how it was done. Also, they gave me a number to an appliance company to come out and that company wasn't even in business anymore. It seems that nobody’s following up with these contractors that they have on their list. The representative from AHS would say that they will call me, so I waited but nobody called. I called back to say that nobody called and they told me to try calling them again. Instead of them calling, I called the contractor myself and that's when I found out that the company wasn't even in business anymore.
It’s just a sad situation. I've seen everything online and there is not one positive comment on there for AHS. They’re all horrible complaints and mostly about on hold time and customer service. One lady that I spoke with on the phone basically called me a liar and that my concern is not in her system. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said none was available. I had to wait for somebody to call me back. Frustrated, I hung up the phone and I just called back later to speak with a really nice lady. She told me that none of my conversations with the previous representative were in the system. I'm sure she didn't note that because she didn't want her name.
So far, AHS sent me an email to give options for the replacement of my washer. I'm working through that to see if I'm going with whatever they provided or just buy my own and get a cash reimbursement since it’s not the same color and it’s hard to tell online if it’s really the kind of washer that I want. They said that once I send the receipt they’ll give me the cash back for it. But until they straighten their act up, I will never ever recommend them to anyone. While having a home warranty is a good idea because if things break down, you want protection. It's ridiculous that you have to jump through hoops and do all of these and deal with people's attitude just to get your stuff done when you’re paying for it, which is awful. I'm their client.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I wasn’t really sold with AHS but I had to renew with them because there weren't any good choices, including them. I timed my calls with AHS and each and every time, I was on the phone for over an hour just on hold. You shouldn’t have to wait that long every time you call, several times in a week. If you have to purchase a plan from them, there's no problem getting to talk to someone. But if you have an actual problem, you can’t.
Also, claims are not always uploaded to the computer like when I had an issue and it said that I didn't have a complaint or a concern on there. The only option at that point is not to email someone about the problem but to make an appointment. You can't even request to have them call you at a certain number. They don’t have a phone number saying your call would be on hold for more than 30 minutes. They only ask if they should call you back or if you would like to stay on hold.
And when I spoke to someone one time, she was upset that I was on the phone with her for about half an hour when I was on hold for over an hour. Each time she asked if I had any more concerns, I gave her a concern after talking about the first one, I had five concerns then. So I’m not really thrilled with American Home Shield.
I still have an outstanding balance of more than $125 from I don't know where. I spoke to someone about it and she said it would eventually go away, but she said I would have to wait for 14 days meaning if it’s still on my billing in 14 days, I would have to call again and waste my time. I’m a busy ER doctor so I don’t have time to call people all day long.
Also, because of their lack of repair, I had to go shower in my neighbor’s house. AHS would say someone was going to call me back within 24 hours but nobody did. They never answered the phone after 3 emails and I left a couple of messages. By the time I got in touch with someone, I was told that they canceled my order, replaced it with somebody else and had no one until Monday so there was a whole weekend in between.
I understand your concerns with AHS and the multiple issues that you have experienced from long hold times to a lack of repair. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I only made two claims with American Home Shield. The first contractor I used got my toilet fixed quickly and it was perfect. Everything's been easy but I didn't understand my last claim when I had my heat pump fixed. I paid $75 for the technician who came out here but he didn't fix anything. He said I needed refrigerant and told me that the consumer has to pay $10 to him for a pound of that refrigerant which I didn't know. He even said the insurance didn't cover that. I didn't have cash at the time and I just had my card so I couldn't pay him. Then, I talked to the lady in AHS and she said that they just fix whatever’s broken and they don’t do refrigerant. She even told me that the contract indeed indicates that the consumer has to pay $10 per pound. The heat pump has never been fixed and if I knew, I’d have the money ready for the technician so as not to waste his time either.

Our dishwasher wasn’t working a couple of months ago so I went online to submit a claim and then put the claim in. The reps were quick at getting it taken care of. American Home Shield sent a contractor who was knowledgeable and good. Then, we had a second problem with the fuse of the dishwasher and it got fixed yesterday. Everything’s fine since the repair but AHS charged me the two times the dishwasher was fixed. I paid $75 the first time and when the dishwasher broke the second time, I paid another $75 fee. AHS is busy and has a lot of other people they’re dealing with but they were good. I appreciate the way they handled everything and we’ll probably renew their service.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for my AC. I had somebody coming in for a reunion on that Saturday and they didn’t have emergency people to come out and fix it. I didn't like that. I know they have an emergency HVAC personnel, but it seems like they go for the cheapest route and that they're trying to save money. It was hot that weekend so my whole upstairs was hot and I had roaches there. I had to wait until Monday but when. It's been a month and a half and as of today, it still is not fixed. Another issue I have with them is getting a hold of them. You stay on hold forever, which I don't understand. I won't be continuing the service and I definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone else. I was very disappointed.

The garbage disposal sprung a leak as part of the unit cracked and so we submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. It went smoothly and within an hour we got a response from the selected vendor. They followed up and set an appointment. Everything went as scheduled and the unit has been good since the repair. I’ve got the protection plan on two properties and my overall experience has been good. Our challenges have been fairly consistent in the HVAC. We’ve had two plumbing and two HVAC and one of them wasn’t covered which was fine. They were kind enough to dispatch a technician. However, my wife likes having all of the information and so when they assigned a local company that she’s never heard of, she jumped on the internet and searched for that company. Home Shield could take this as a marketing opportunity by providing a little background information.

I was on hold nearly an hour. While speaking with a very pleasant rep. I was disconnected. I had to call back again and was on hold again for over an hour. Again the rep was very helpful and pleasant. He informed me the first rep had resolved my issue, unbeknownst to me. I have to commend the employees, however the management seems to be very poor. They need to have an auto return your call system when the wait times are outrageously long. They also need to do work on their website and have an area to write comments and needs. A further review may be coming after my repairs are completed.

We have been with American Home Shield for years. This past year or so the service has completely gone downhill. The service is the worst. AHS sends out a technician from a company and then there is absolutely no follow up. We had a problem with our stove top on October 10, 2017. Today is December 1, 2017. RC Appliance came out and I don't know if they never communicated with AHS and dropped the ball or visa versa.
I called them again this AM and have been on hold with AHS for one hour and 45 minutes. This nice lady is working to fix the problem finally. But now I have to talk to a supervisor about the issue. So, we will be without our stove top until this is resolved once again. I don't love to cook but almost two months is ridiculous. I will be looking for another Home Warranty Company for our rental properties and home once this is resolved (hoping it shall be!). Terribly disappointed with how the company has gone downhill. Be careful when you sign up for American Home Shield!

I have been a long time customer of American Home Shield and their service is terrible. Besides the fact that each call into customer service has a wait time of a minimum of 30 minutes, my last two claims involve contractors that show up on site to just collect their service fee. Each contractor told us that they will never complete a job and that it is worthwhile for them to show up for 5 minutes, review the issue and notify AHS that the problem is not a warrantied item even though it is. For example, with my current claim, the contractor said that he did not want to do the job and that he was going to tell AHS that our AC/furnace was not installed incorrectly.
He said that this way he would get paid and it he would not have to do the work. However, we mentioned that the unit was installed by a licensed contractor and approved by the township that it was installed properly and that we have proof of that. The contractor said that was true but he didn’t want to complete the job and he just wanted his fee. AHS’s customer service people continually mention that they are not licensed contractors and need to listen to the contractor’s review on the issue. There aren’t any supervisors or anyone in corporate that will handle this. Shouldn’t they know what kind of contractors they are requiring that we use?
We still have a faulty unit and now I am required to pay an additional service fee for a second opinion who, if he’s like the other contractors associated with AHS, will deny any work to be completed. How unprofessional. All consumers need to be made aware of this company and the high risk you will endure if you try to utilize their service.

There was a water leak in my second floor which went all the way through my ceiling and the drywall had to be replaced. Submitting a claim with AHS seemed fairly easy and when the first technicians came out, they were on time, really interactive and helped me out a lot. They explained what they were doing and always asked me if it was okay if they were doing certain things. I pretty much told them they could do whatever they want to fix the problem and I was not going to tell them how to do their job. In the end, they got everything working properly. When the drywallers came in, they were not on time, but it wasn’t a big deal. They were really nice, too, but I didn’t realize that they didn’t put one of the lights back in, so I'm missing one light in my kitchen. They just put the drywall over the light instead of having the light through the drywall. I was kind of frustrated but I let it go.

The last 2 claims I had with AHS were for my air conditioner but they were two different issues. One issue was that the duct work in the house had a gap in the opening and it was making a loud sound when the air went through it which was called the air handler. It was bowed out a little bit because my husband and I went up there and looked to see if we could figure out what was making that sound. And so, the guy came in and he had to drill some holes to rivet and close that gap so that it wouldn’t make that sound. The pan that collects water underneath the air conditioner had filled somehow. The insulation had floated into it and he cleaned that too.
About a week later, the air conditioner wouldn’t cool, so we’ve made another claim. It took him a while to come, because the first time, he came right away, but the next time, there were a lot of people on the list. I was without air conditioning for four days. Some people were asking why I didn't call so and so down the street. I said that I’m with AHS and I have to use their people. When the same guy came, he found a wire that had come loose on the air conditioner outside the house and he soldered it back on. He was super nice, well-mannered and professional. He got right to the job, took care of it and got on with his day as we get on with ours. We were confident with him and we appreciated him getting everything done right away. And as far as I know, the air conditioner's working right now.
Then within the last month, I had three things break and four services called altogether. I had my dishwasher broke which was a minor thing. The guy that came out said that he can't fix it and told us to call the company since it’s under some kind of warranty that had to be fixed before they could work on it. Once the company did that, the problem was resolved. The contractor didn’t really work on it but he got paid $75, and the guy who came out and repaired it was paid by his company. The other thing was the dryer that had a belt problem. It was $75 which would have probably been $150 if I didn’t have the Home Shield.
Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield was easier than calling because sometimes I have to wait on the phone for a really long time for a representative. And I’m still iffy about their customer service because I was getting a service for $75 and I’m paying them $70. The work that I’ve had done would have cost not a huge amount of money because neither time was it anything big. That will really save me whenever I have a big problem that costs thousands of dollars. And I’m hoping it’s going to pay off later on. However, it's not outstanding since I didn’t get any new appliances. All of my appliances are 13 years old and I don’t know how long they can be repaired. But I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. We’re not leaving it and promise to stay with it. And I have and would recommend AHS.

So far, I've been very pleased and I've already paid for next year.

We called AHS in for a repair of the refrigerator, and it was not a great experience. I put my notes away because out of frustration. I Initiated a call on a Sunday, and we were told we'd be contacted within 24 hours. First Monday came, no one contacted us. So, I called the number, and I was on hold for about 30 minutes to get to a representative. I put in the request, then she gave me a claim number. She said, "Someone else will get back to you maybe by Thursday." I said, "So, I have to go five days without a refrigerator?" She said, "I didn't realize it was a major appliance". So, she ended up switching it to somebody else and they would contact me. I let another 24 hours go and no one contacted me. Called again to the 800 number and I waited online for another half hour.
She located someone else, but they weren't able to come out 'til the following Tuesday. Hence, I went eight days without a refrigerator. So, then I followed up with the contractor and made the appointment and so forth. So they came out on Tuesday and he was here for about half hour or forty minutes, and he fixed the problem. I was very satisfied with the actual person who did the work. But the whole situation has made us rethink the warranty.

I have a couple of things that I’m not a 100% satisfied with. The technician was a good guy but he turned the hot water the wrong way. The second thing is that faucet is like 35 years old and he was saying, "It’s going to leak again." It’s a temporary fix the way I look at it. So he came out and it’s not leaking right now. But it’s just a matter of time that it’s going to happen again.
And I asked him to replace the faucet. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy or expensive to get this faucet fixed but it needs to be permanently fixed instead of just put a bandaid on it. The representative just said that if they are able to fix the problem right there they’re not going to do anything else. I understand that to a point but we already got a history here. We got the same problem twice in less than a year and it’s because the faucet is just worn out. But I would recommend AHS.

Submitting a claim for the fan over my stove with American Home Shield was very long, and the people didn’t call me back, so I called them, and it was like I woke the lady up. They always put me on hold. But I got through to a lady and she was very nice. She set me up with someone else but I never heard back from them either. So I called back to American Home Shield and told them about it. She thought it was somebody in Auberry, a little town that I live by and said the original people that they had set it up with would take a month.
Finally the guy came and he was really nice. He said he didn’t have to take out the motor. We got another motor, came back a week later and put it in. I'm retired now but if I was still working, this would have been a big inconvenience. It was a long and ridiculous process, but the vent's working fine now. Prior to that, another company from AHS put a new kitchen faucet in for me and they were wonderful. However, they need to have more local people in our area because a year and a half ago, they sent an electrician who came from 90 miles away which was weird. And I live not too far out of a big town. The contractor came right out and told me that he had to order a part and the part came in a couple of days later. He came out and he fixed it. It's running now. Also what I did like that they did was now you don't have to pay the supplier when they come out. You can go online and just put in your card and be done with it. AHS, as well as the company that they used provided good service. It was a really good experience, and I’d recommend them. That's my worst experience with American Home Shield. I honestly thought you are taking money from my account each and every month thinking that I'm covered, no matter if it's replacement or if a technician will come out there. It's going to take money out. Or you can get a second opinion.
The contractor that they sent out was very professional. When he came to the house, he did everything. He looked inside and said, "Well, that's the problem. You got a hole in your tube. I'll let them know now. For sure, there will be a contact with you. But besides that, whatever they tell me what to do, they'll be in contact with me and I'll just come back." But that guy never went back. AHS got a guy in contact with us so, I said, "Well, we'll wait an hour." But I waited an hour and 43 minutes, to be exact before somebody came on the phone and we discussed the problem but they couldn't help me. To this day, I'm an honest customer, still paying. We recently bought a house seven months ago and our heater and air conditioner unit stopped working. We were told it wasn't repairable and a red tag was put on it. We needed to change the unit to a new one because it was a hazard. Everything started on August 28 and it took more than a month to fix the problem. The first contractor that American Home Shield sent me, that was the worst experience in my life. The company was Prime Master and it was awful. They had no manners and didn't have any customer service.
American Home Shield declared an emergency since I am living in the high desert in California and by that time the heat was 106-110 degrees. And I had my 14-month-old son and 85-year-old mother-in-law with dementia at home. That was hell for us. I was sitting on my porch crying and asking my husband what we were going to do. We contacted another company but we would have had to pay $10,000. But why would we pay somebody else when we had a home warranty.
American Home Shield had nice people who were very polite. They listened to whatever I had to say and they tried to help me. But they didn't do anything fast and by that time, I was so frustrated because I needed to have the problem resolved. They told me many times that the contractor would call me in a week but they never did. I called the contractor but they told me that they were busy and they yelled at me. They wouldn't let me speak to a manager too. They also told me that I didn't speak very good English and that I had to call the office to explain to me what happened. I have a heavy accent but that was no way to talk to a customer.
So I called American Home Shield and told them to change my vendor because I couldn't deal with them. I didn't want the company in my house. AHS told me that changing vendors would take more time but I didn't care because the first one was not treating me with respect and were not professional. The experience with the second company, Sawyer, was night and day. They were very professional. There was a lady on the phone who was so sweet. And in a week, I had a new unit. We had to pay some amount from our pocket, around $2300, for the unit because American Home Shield only covered some of the expenses. But they were very nice and they help me with the permits.

However, the first claim that I had was with a heater service. I wrote them a check and it’s already been cashed. Then, I had another claim with the plumber so I wrote him a check. But he called me back and said that they didn't take checks anymore. He also told me that he was going to rip it up and they’re going to just take the payment off of my credit card. I had two other claims and for the very last one, I wrote a check yesterday. I put it in the mail stop today, Sunday, and it won’t go in until Monday. But the lady that I spoke with yesterday said that some of these checks have to go through the bank before American Home Shield gets it, so it’s taking them quite a long time.
When I submit my claims with AHS, I call them and most of the time, I talk to a recording. Then the machine would come on and say that so and so has been assigned to me, that my confirmation number is blah, blah, blah, their phone number is that and I would be hearing from them soon within 24 or 48 hours. I've been carrying AHS for 17 years now and 75% of the time, the contractors they sent out were very good. I'm satisfied with them. AHS seem to be knowledgeable with the contractors that they use and what they do to get me the person to do the job is fine. But I hate the fact that I have to be on the phone so long to talk to somebody I wanted to for 15 to 20 minutes whenever I call in. That’s horrible.

So while AHS had the money, whoever was in charge down here at the escrow didn't send them the rest of the paperwork that AHS had asked for.
The rep over the phone when I submitted the claim was professional. The service provider did the best that the contractor thought they could do without going into huge expense for the company, but he was pretty sure that he got it good. Anything the contractor did, he cleaned up. He was so careful about his shoes, our home, or letting our dog out or no. He was so patient and professional about everything, and so polite. I was really impressed with this guy. However, the heater didn't work, and he said we have to call the service provider in. They were wonderful. When I called back, they said, "Thank you for letting us know. Can we come out right after 1:00 o’clock? Is that okay with you?” I didn't expect that. It's been a few weeks now since the repair, and everything's great.
I had my own property management company for 28 years along with being realtor for longer than that, so I dealt with American Home Shield a lot. Their contractors were really awesome. I was mega impressed by them. I would put these guys at AHS right at the very top of my list of excellent providers, and I would use them all the time. I'm glad we have AHS and we're going to get it again when it’s up.

I’ve been a long-time user of American Home Shield and I generally like their service. The people from Bear Plumbing they sent most recently are fantastic. But the biggest issue is I cannot reach AHS on the phone. And so, when I call and do an automated thing, they send somebody of their choice automatically. And the first people they sent were from On Time Plumbing, which I did not want. But on the second call, they were gracious enough to give me a second opinion for no additional charge, and it was fantastic. Also, I understand prices go up but American Home Shield gets a little costly and their fee of $75 now is almost getting close to what the fee is for anybody to come out, and it won’t cover parts and labor.

My heating and air-conditioning went out so I filed a claim to American Home Shields over the phone. My interactions with their rep were fine, however, there was a two-day lag before they sent out someone but it wasn’t very long. The time was reasonable. It's just that at that time it was cold, so I really needed the heat. The technician came out and found the problem and fixed it very, very quickly. He was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and explained exactly what he was doing while I was watching him. Apparently, the issue was some kind of blockage that had blown in the vent. He cleaned it from some of the debris that had gotten caught in the gears and everything was fine after that.
When I first signed up for these services, I had to simply give the technician my deductible when they got to the house. I used it a couple of times and I was able to pay the technician the $125 when they came and fixed certain things in my house. I may have had four things fixed in my home since I’ve been with the service. And every one of those times I was able to give the check for the exact deductible amount to the technician. However, I was a little put off last time when they said, “No. You have to pay the deductible upfront.” So, I had to pay the provider the deductible over the phone via credit card. I wasn’t allowed to do a check and I paid an additional premium in tax. They taxed the $125, which made my total deductible about $134, which was not in the contract that I originally signed. I know it’s not that much money, but it was taxed, and that was not the way it was for my previous usages.
So, it made me think that either the services are going down, the company might be going out of business, or there’s something wrong with this overall protection plan that I have. So, it made me start to think if I need to look for another company to provide these services since this company now is charging me my deductible plus tax. I did make a statement about it and said, “Really? I’ve never paid tax on my deductible before.” And they said that in North Carolina they were now supposed to collect the tax on the service deductible. I have deductibles involving my job with my client, and my client, as far as I know, doesn’t have to pay a tax on their deductible.
I wasn’t dissatisfied with the service that the technician delivered but I was very dissatisfied with the way I was charged. Had they told me upon signing up that my deductible is going to be plus tax, I might have chosen a smaller deductible rather than the $125 that I did choose. The technician did a great job and got it up and running fast. But overall, I was concerned that maybe I need to find another company because the way that it was handled didn’t seem professional as it was in my previous encounters. It’s a minor issue, but it’s still an issue.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

Our dishwasher's connection to the water line wasn't working properly. Submitting the claim online was easy and the next day, somebody from American Home Shield called me. They were touching base to confirm how things have worked and to ask me about the service needed. Within 24 hours of that initial call, I had an appointment set up. The contractor they sent out was very respectful, efficient and informative. He told us what he was going to do and what was needed on the machine. He confirmed that they needed to order a part and that somebody would be calling me to come back out and put it on the dishwasher and connect everything up.
When I called to get this service set up, they told me that the ticket wasn't open and that they needed to send somebody back out to check what was needed. That's a problem I'm hoping that wouldn't happen again. But we haven't had a call back about anyone coming back out yet and I'm still waiting for someone to complete the job.

We lived in many states and have used American Home Shield for many years. We've always been very pleased with them and everything has been an A+. We always call on them for any claim then they talk to a person and it's good. But technicians were supposed to come yesterday for our microwave claim but they ended up not coming so we had to reschedule that. They needed another guy to list out the microwave oven then to install a whole new computer board. But they had a hustle and they'll be coming in two weeks. Other than that, I recommend AHS to friends all the time.

My dishwasher wasn't drying. But the problem was that the dry button wasn't on. So, for $100, American Home Shield had the button pushed and we were all happy. The next claim was for the thermostat. The little button came on and said it needed something, but all it needed to do was be reset. Submitting those claims were great and the guys that came out were very nice.

I found that submitting the claim online with AHS is great. Once I logged on, I do everything there and I also I like the option to be able to chat with someone online. That makes the process a lot quicker too. But when trying to do it over the phone, the wait times are ridiculous. The first time when I had to call in for our dishwasher, it was a 40-minute wait. But when I get someone, it's pretty good. Recently, I filed claims for our refrigerator and a rain shed.
The only thing with AHS was there were a couple of issues with the last repair company that I wasn't too pleased with. American Home Shield changed their policy for collecting the service fees up front and I wasn't aware of that. When the repair guys came out the first time to diagnose everything, they took our credit card information and wrote it down on a paper which wasn't protected. If we or the repair company were to lose the copy, our entire credit card information, CVV, billing code would all be there. Other than that, the contractors sent to us were good.

I’ve done two claims with American Home Shield -- one for the dryer and one for an electrician. The dryer was great. The electrician fixed my issue but he stopped the breaker from tripping by disconnecting a switch. He was supposed to get back to me with an estimate of what he would do to fix it, but he never followed-up, so I called someone else. The interactions with the contractors were okay, except for the fact that the electrician didn’t resolve the issue.

I had a clog on one of my rental houses. Claiming submission to American Home Shield was actually one of the easier. I haven't had great experiences with them, but this recent claim was pretty decent. I wasn't too happy when the contractor came out for my hot water heater especially because that's one thing that they claim that they are really good at fixing. He told me that basically, unless it's rotted, that they're always going to look for a reason not to replace it, and I found that very disheartening. He basically said I need to call them, and pay it out of my pocket because American Home Shield is not going to fix it. He took my $75, and basically said turn off the temperature and you're on your own.
And to call them, and tell them that, "Hey! This is what your contractor said!" Nobody listens to you. If somebody said that about my business, I as the owner would want to know why. They were just very nonchalant, so it leaves me to believe that the contractor was absolutely correct. They are very interested in taking my money, but when there's a problem, they're really not going to fix it. Considering I've had them for three years, I don't know if I'll be paying again to renew it next year. However, when they make changes, some were for the better. For example, they made it easier where you now pay the service call and you should not have to give it to the technician. But, then again, they didn't communicate it to the plan people, or the people that were taking your money. They need to make sure everybody knew. The people who answer the phone are mostly really good too, and they do have some great customer service.
I understand your concerns with the plumbing issue that needed to be repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience.

I got an over the range microwave oven and a couple of months ago, it wouldn’t properly shut and I couldn’t turn it on. Filing a claim with American Home Shield was really easy. I just called and they said that the contractor people should call me within 24 hours. The first guy that came out couldn’t figure out what was going on. He said that it will work if I just change one of the switches, but it didn’t. So, they came back and he looked at it and couldn’t figure it out. That’s when I requested another company to see if they can do it.
Another tech came in and suggested that we should have done both switches, so he did both switches and that still didn’t work. We tried to rearrange them and it was okay for about two days and restarted again. I called them and they came over and looked at it. They couldn’t fix it and referred us back to American Home Shield who sent an email saying that they’re going to replace it. They did replace it and somebody came here in time to install it. Everything went smooth. I’ve been with AHS for 13 years now and they are very easy to deal with. They have very good communication and the problems are really solved.

Recently, I had my air conditioner serviced by AHS. It needed cleaning and time to turn it on. It was easy to submit a claim when I called them. A guy came and did the service and he noticed that one of the overflows was full. It's wrapped up in that and the motor was running on one of the fans that he has to replace. So far everything has been good. We're waiting for that person to come back as he’s waiting for the order to come in. I also called for her old Montgomery Ward. She won't give that up that and so we're trying to find out with them so far. The guy came back as he bought the part and the top oven is working. They're good to get the part of something that old.
Their reps were very courteous, polite and they get straight to the point. They also gave me a callback to make sure everything was good. Both of the contractors that came were polite. They were all gentlemen. They let me know what was going on especially with the air conditioning unit. They even check the outside of it and they were good to me. We will keep their policy up and continue using them. I will recommend AHS to others.

I work a night shift, so he ended up waiting for me. He was here before he said he was going to be here, which was very convenient for me because I didn't have to wait up. He showed me what was wrong and did his job, and it was all done quickly. He was awesome, and the microwave is good as new since the repair. American Home Shield is a good thing to have especially if you're a homeowner. It saves you some money in the long run. I had a problem with an AC unit, which was worked on earlier in the year, and then the heating as well. It wouldn’t come on. It seemed like it was warm outside but it wasn’t blowing anything warm inside. So the Greenway people responded to the call that I had put in American Home Shield and worked with American Home Shield in getting us two new units. Over several years Greenway has been the one that’s recommended to us and during the last week they were very helpful in getting everything set up to bring the units in.
They told me approximately how much time it would take to do it, about six and a half hour, and then they landed it right on the nose. They had to work in the dark and in the cold, and they still got it all done. We’ve been without heat for a couple of weeks in one area of the house, downstairs. And they got it running and everything was good.
American Home Shield has been very helpful as well. The only drawback, which is not one of their problems is that, it’s really hard to get in touch with them on the phone. It takes forever. They could get more phone lines. I’ve waited 40 minutes and so I’ve put it on a speaker. But I understand there are particular times of the year they’re overloaded. I’ve learned to use the internet and place a service request through their website and that’s been very helpful. And they’ve been very responsive and quick in terms of letting me know who the contractor will be. They have given me all the information that I need to go ahead with what I need to have done. I’ve been very pleased with the way they run their business and staying in contact.
I moved to American Home Shield several years ago from another home warranty outfit that had inferior contractors. American Home Shield contracts with really good persons who do service work. And I’ve been very pleased with the work they’ve done and the people that get sent out to do the work. The folks that they sent out were very professional and competent. With the other contractor it was a little sketchy in terms of who showed up and whether you really wanted them in your house. And I don’t feel that way with the people that American Home Shield has sent out..

We've been with American Home Shield for close to a year now, but we also had them when we were in Maine for 13 years, and I was very happy with it. So far, AHS have addressed our claims correctly. But I wanted to know a bit more about how can you bundle and pay less. For example, they said that if I have multiple claims in the same category, like for microwave, fridge and dishwasher, I would pay the $75 deductible and they would address them all for this bundle. But when I was playing with their website to see what can be saved in case we need to wait and request maintenance at the same time, I tried to choose the bundle option for my garage door and the website said I could not combine it with any claim under any other subcategory. It’s some kind of valve that’s supposed to make it act like a 80-gallon water heater. But the plumber that installed it said that this is not going to do anything to make it act like an 80-gallon water heater. When that happened, I started looking for other home warranty companies as soon as my contract is up with American Home Shield.

There was an issue with one of the burners on our stove and it wasn't level so I called AHS. I sat on hold the first time for 45 minutes and then I called back. I was ready to cancel the entire contract with them and find somebody else after several calls but they finally sent somebody out. They were very good but it wasn't quite fixed. So I called back and sat on hold for over two hours waiting for somebody. I got very tired of it and called back the next day, sat on hold for an hour, and that's when I discovered that because it was a recurring issue, I could do it online. They said they're waiting on getting payment from the title company, which in fact happened a week before.
Their reps said, "You don't have a contract with us but we see that it's in process. So we can give you a one-time service call until they get paid." And I said, "Well, how long does that take?" And they said, "Well that's up to the title company." I said, "Well the title company tells me they've paid you. So all I can go by is what the two of you are telling me and they conflict with each other." I asked to speak to a manager that could help me and the guy said, "Well, I am tech support. I am the manager." And I said, "You don't report to anybody?" "No." Going forward, if I have another issue and it goes that way, I'm just going to cancel. I was recommended by several people to them and I had been extremely surprised and disappointed with the service I've gotten thus far. I would have done better just paying the extra money for the contractors to come out and do it themselves. They were good but AHS has been less than pleasurable.
I understand your concerns with the first work order that you have placed through your AHS warranty for your cooktop. I would like to speak with you and resolve your experience.

American Home Shield is a terrible company. I’ve had them for over 10 years now. I used them once. This was a couple of years ago and that went well. And then I used them for my air conditioner. I told them everything that was wrong with it over the phone and told them “We can do that.” They come to the house and my husband tells me he didn’t do what he was supposed to do.
Then the second time it was with the air conditioner again and same thing again. My husband tells them how he wants it to be done - the coils to be cleaned. He comes and he tells me he can’t do the coils. I’m like, “That’s not what you told me on the phone.” They told me that they can do the coils. Now, “We don’t do that. That’s not under your warranty thing.” So I’m like “You should have told me that.” That’s the rule.
Then he wanted me to pay so I’m like “I’m not paying the hundred dollars. You guys didn’t do what you’re supposed to do.” Then they called me up to tell me that I have to pay a hundred dollars and then they sent me a bill for hundred dollars, I’m like “I’m not paying a hundred dollars. You guys told me you’re going to fix it and you didn’t fix it so I got to call someone else to do it and I got to pay them. ” They charged my account that I pay $45.99 to. They charged the hundred dollars without my okay. I had to go to the bank. I had to put a stop payment on it and then I had to fight it to get the money back. I got my money back because they knew they’re wrong and I cancelled it right away. I’m very dissatisfied.

The first home I bought, I had a home warranty policy with Old Republic Home Protection. I was very satisfied, everything got resolved promptly, and there was always a genuine interest/good customer service to make sure things were repaired in a prompt manner. I renewed that warranty and everything continues to go well.
When we were buying our 2nd home, our realtor suggested I go with American Home Shield, she told me their policies are ranked best/stack up higher/offer better protection than others. So went with AHS, and I greatly regret it. I'm at a point where I'm probably going to cancel it early. I've had a couple important/urgent things break at the house, like having the sewer backed up/back flowing into the showers (major Gross unsanitary mess too). I made a request online, but in order to escalate it, I needed to call in. I waited 2hrs 17min on hold. The agent told me it's their policy to wait 24 hours before they can escalate the call. Well there is sewage flooding the bathrooms and the outside of the house. How does that not seem obvious that I need an emergency plumber.
Eventually after speaking with a manager, they gave me 'outside authorization' to use my own Repair company. So I called back the plumber they initially assigned (who they said I can use). It was a Saturday night, and he said he would only come out if I paid him for his services when they were complete (and then per AHS, would submit that for reimbursement).
Well it's all messed up/a scam. Because AHS doesn't pay for emergency service rates/work. And they denied my claim, so basically it ended up being all out of pocket. So why even bother to buy a home warranty when you have to be on hold for 2 hours each time, and then if it's an emergency Repair, you basically are forced to pay it out of pocket if you need prompt service.
So here I am, with another emergency issue, and I've been on hold for over 1hr 30min. They either purposely have such a long response time to discourage you from placing requests/getting proper resolution, or they just don't care? When I was with Old Republic Home Protection, I would get a live agent on the phone within 5 minutes. Even after hours it would be no more than 10. This is terrible service, all they do is find ways to deny claims, and I strongly urge home buyers or owners to stay far away.

Signed up for the home warranty insurance for my rental property. My tenant called in a problem, they were told that the warranty had expired - even before the "waiting period" had elapsed. Calling them on the phone typically results in endless wait on hold, the robotic voice says "typical wait time 30 minutes." Are you kidding? Even for billing questions, I cannot get through.

I took American Home Shield thinking that it would be very convenient to get things fixed. But my experience with a refrigerator repair has been terrible - it's been over a month and they have still not been able to fix it. The technician comes out (twice already), diagnoses it incompletely, there was a long unexplained lag between the first work and the time they got the part (the contractor and the AHS blames the other for the lack of communication leading to the delay).
I am still waiting for them to fix it as I write this - technician said he does not know what to do, but AHS apparently asked them to order another part, and now I am stuck on a call holding for the past 30 mins, trying to get an answer from AHS on what their new solution is. Their wait times on the phone are typically a HOUR - what kind of business does that? It's been extremely frustrating to say the least. Another work order to fix the washing machine got done in a couple weeks time (technician comes within a few days for diagnosis, orders parts which takes a week or so, they reschedule the visit, which is another few days).

I had a water leak under the house so I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the process worked out good. However, the first contractor that came out, Shields Plumbing, was terrible. The guy looked 20-feet away under the house with a small flashlight and says, "Oh. Well, I’ll have to take a look at that.” So, he typed up something and sent it to AHS, saying that it was a shift in the earthquake that caused that and that's why AHS couldn’t fix it or pay for it or get it fixed. I thought that guy probably just didn’t want to crawl down in there to check it out. I called AHS back and they suggested that I get another person to come out and check it and they weren't going to charge me more if it was the same findings.
The second group, Hodges Plumbing came, checked the issue out and fixed it that same day that I called. The guys went where the source was and found where the pipe was corroded. Usually, AHS send an email but I didn’t see anything so I don’t think I got charged for it. I would tell a friend that having AHS would be a good idea, especially if you’re old like me who do not like to crawl under the house and tired of plumbing work.

Approximately a month and a half after we've moved into this house, the refrigerator quit cooling and everything defrosted. I called American Home Shield, and within three days, someone came out and fixed the problem. I submitted the claim online and it was very easy. It was SOP as far as what you would expect from filling out an online form. If you had any kind of technical background, it was easy to figure out their website.
The contractor was there when he said he was going to be there and he was very professional. He came in and analyzed the problem and he let me know exactly what he was doing. He completed the repair right then and everything in my refrigerator is working now, so I'm very happy. We had to throw everything away and start over as far as groceries went but it didn’t matter. Other than that, everything else was fine. I feel comfortable knowing that if anything happens, I'm covered. The policy was spelled to us and American Home Shield did exactly what they said they would do. It's a good peace of mind product and true to its advertisement.

I bought a place in Central Village for my dad and the water heater got busted. I had dripping water so I called AHS and they gave me a plumber who called the last minute and said that there was a death in the family and he couldn’t come. The same company was rescheduled for the next day but they did not show. I called the company four times and they said they were coming and for me to hold on. It was so frustrating that I thought I had paid money for a nonsense service.
After a lot of calls, they finally told me that they'd give me the discretion to bring my own person in. I brought my own guy and he told me I needed a new heater. He then got me a new water heater and AHS reimbursed it. While the reimbursement took quicker than I expected, it was very very frustrating in terms of getting someone out there. Also, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a lot of confusion around whether something is covered or not.
I had another so-so experience with AHS with my air conditioning unit. One guy said that he was going to fix the unit but he only half fixed it. So I had to get another guy who did a good job fixing it. Overall, it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. What I find curious is that the first plumber they send for my water heater. When I went online, they had the world’s worst reviews. And then I called in a subsequent time about another issue and AHS still had that name in their roster companies, which makes me wonder why they would even have that guy who doesn't go to appointments in their list of names.

I submitted the claim online because you can never, ever get a person on the phone unless you want to renew your annual service. But on the other hand, doing it online is very good. I didn't hear from them for a month so I called American Home Shield a couple of times and they sent messages to the plumber. The plumber never responded.
I contacted the executive office and they changed the company because she tried me to them as well and she said that she wouldn't use them anymore. The same contractor was assigned once before so I won't accept them anymore. So, she took them off the list and added up to change the plumber. I got the issue with the faucets resolved in two days. My lower heater went out. It wasn't heating and we need heaters in the house. We're not run down though and it was finally repaired last Wednesday. Eight days or so before that, I called in the claim to American Home Shield, and then the technicians came out right away. They were very good. They did their troubleshooting and I actually had a third problem with it. We figured out that the heat exchange was bad and as they went in, they found other issues that were bad with it. Now, the worst part of the whole thing was they could have picked the parts right up at Carrier local. But they had to wait for AHS, or whoever they ordered it from, and then it took them three to four days to ship here. And then, my repair guy had to go pick them up in order to do it, or I would have had heat a lot sooner.
AHS reps were good and considerate. But when the claim was made and they ordered the parts, they don’t give anybody a tracking number so we could see where they're at or maybe figure out a way to get them sooner. Their overall customer service was very good. I'm very pleased with their reps. But there's a little light on the heater if there's no sight gauge. So, when it would fault and the light would come on, it would flash. And if it flashed so many times, there's this thing in there that tells you what's wrong. But because of the issue I had, I had to turn the power up on because the heater was blowing cold air and not heat into the home. So, even with my fireplace on, it wasn’t really helping. So, every time I did that, it'd reset. So, when we finally held it long enough where they could come out and look at it, then we were able to go to the source. But they were very good at what they did and they were very concerned about doing the job correctly.
I've had AHS since 2012 on this particular home. I've had incidents where they did things that were wrong like shipping the part to Florida instead of South Carolina, and then saying it was here. But that was only at one time. Now, everything went as it should. They called and contacted me and let me know when the parts would be in but with no tracking number. I don't know the difference in the cost if it was much cheaper for them to get the part wherever they got it and had it shipped here rather than getting one local right here. That's what AHS need to consider especially when it's cold and the heat or air goes out. But other than that, I've been very happy with AHS. The heating contractor that they have now is much better than the ones I've had in the past. I would recommend them to a friend.

The refrigerator that was not cooling was the most recent claim we have submitted to American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy. The only difficulty was the time we submitted a claim for our AC. It was really hot, and it took a couple of days for somebody to come out because they said that there wasn’t anyone available. So, we were stuck in the heat in the house, which is not a good thing. I have a two-year-old and an eight-year-old, so I was really more so concerned about them. But they did say if somebody’s appointment was canceled, they would try to fit me in.
I had to wait three days and they’ve included the weekend, and then we had somebody out that Monday. When something goes out such as heat or the AC, they were not able to schedule something right away. We had fans in the house, so we cooled the house using the ceiling fans. But I was definitely glad when the AC was back on. But with the refrigerator, the service happened quickly. We had an appointment the next day. The contractor that did our refrigerator was great. He was professional, he worked on the problem, cleaned up the water and there wasn’t a mess left. It's working perfectly now, so I was happy.
I submit claims both through the phone and online but the online process is really quick. As soon as we submit the claim, we instantly receive a text message or a phone call. I also appreciate the phone call right when they’re in route and when they’re almost there. So, as far as staying on top of the scheduled appointment and calling us back and following up, it’s perfect. I was told that it was going to be very difficult to deal with American Home Shield and that I would have to fight to have my claims submitted and covered under the warranty. But I haven’t had that experience. Overall, they're professional, prompt and has very strong communication.

I just called to submit a claim, gave them the information and they sent somebody out. It was very easy. I’ve had people out to take care of the plumbing issue five different times. And they kept telling me that it was the air condition. I decided I was going to find out exactly where the leak was from because when the air condition ran, I didn’t have any problems with the leak. So I turned the air condition off and I started using the bathroom that was right over where the water was so I found out that it was the bathroom. It was the bathtub and not the air condition by process of elimination.
Then the contractor sent by American Home Shield came out. The guy was professional. He listened to what I said. He investigated and saw I was right. He went right to it and fixed it. It took him about an hour. He stayed to run the water to make sure it was fixed. When it was fixed, he left. Since then, I have not had any problem.
I've been with American Home Shield for 24 years now and when you’ve been with a company that long, the only comment that I have is they don’t give any incentives for being with them for loyalties. Still, I have recommended people to American Shield because on a whole, I’ve had a good experience. The bad experiences that I have had have not been with American Shield, they have been with the contractors that came out.

But during the daytime, I normally get an email back saying my repair has been scheduled and a callback saying, “These are the people that are going to be calling you back.” The contractors they sent out were friendly and experienced as well. I’m glad I have American Home Shield. I had them for a while and then I had to cancel. We bought the house in June of this year and whoever put the flooring prior to us moving in put a finishing nail through the trim when they put it back on the wall. The nail went into the PACS pipe and then the type of pipe that sealed right around it began to rust and finally sprung the leak. So technically, the nail and the pipe was a man-made problem, but the rest was a natural cause. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. They got back to me the next day but they denied my claim, so I handled the problem myself. It was the company and the policies that were the problem. They look for a way to get out of things and that’s how a warranty company stays alive, which is why we cancelled them. On the other hand, the plumbing company that they sent out was great and very professional, and I would definitely recommend them for the future. I had a bit of mix-up with them, but they took care of it on the back end.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I made the request online and everything went very well. But there should be a way to follow up online. That was impossible for me so I had to call them. The offices were very busy and they hold customers on. They keep customers waiting for almost an hour each time we need to say something. They called me back and then they said I should call them again, and then I called, I stayed another hour to be able to speak to someone. And then somebody else came to fix the hole. And they did very well. All three contractors who came out were excellent. It's my first experience with AHS and it was excellent. I'm happy and very satisfied.

I had a leak in my shower and I submitted a claim online for its repair with AHS. In previous experiences, I've called them but I found that it takes forever or at least an hour every time you call. So, it's faster to do it online. When the contractor came out, they cut a few holes in the drywall and in the tile. When they figured out where the leak was coming from, they repaired the hole. Then, they dispatched a drywall repair person out and they fixed the holes in the drywall. The repair on the tile was not covered per the policy, so that's annoying, but it's not the fault of the home warranty. I have AHS for close to two years now and so far, my experience has been very good.

He was very knowledgeable and efficient. He called me when he was coming so it was good and he let me know what was going on. He took out some little tool out of his pocket, opened the refrigerator, did something to it, pressed the button and it started again. He said it was the defrost timer that was the problem and he just overrode that to make it work. But he had to order a part still and that was going to take four days. The refrigerator was running though so that wasn't an issue. Everything was great.
