I called AHS to have my water heater fixed. They sent someone from Atlanta, which was three hours away from where I am. The guy gave AHS a quote that was going to cost me $938 out-of-pocket since the part was not covered by AHS. I've read reviews about the guy that gave the quote and several other people said that they had a problem with him jacking up the prices trying to beat their homeowner’s insurance out of more money. For that reason, I didn’t want him to come back to my house.
I was without hot water for three weeks because I waiting for AHS to send someone else out but they never did. I called every day and was on hold for an hour, only to get someone to say that my claim was in the queue, which meant they were looking for someone to come out. I ended up calling another plumbing company right here in Albany who came and did the repair for only $200. When I got somebody from AHS on the phone to reimburse me, the woman I spoke to said that they do not pay for repairs. They only pay for heaters to be replaced, but my heater didn’t need replacing. The heating element was the one replaced. This experience was not a good one and it's the only problem I had with AHS. I have two properties with them and they did the water heater on my second property with no problem.

It was easy and fast submitting the claim for my heater through AHS' website. The technician was great that he went on a Saturday and took care of the problem. On the other hand, prior to the heater, I had an issue with the AC and AHS sent a contractor. The tech connected the AC but disconnected the heater, and I paid again which I shouldn't have. When another contractor was sent, I told him what happened and he made sure that both were working. Other than that, I like having AHS because it’s very convenient, fast and efficient. I have a rental property so, if something was to happen, I'd simply call somebody. As soon as I submit the claim online, I get a text within an hour. Most of the time, I get a phone call from the contractor, asking me what the problem is and when they are going to come and fix it.

The front door of my front loading washer wouldn't close. So I filed a claim online and the technicians sent by AHS came out and fixed it. But they found another problem. Apparently, there was an issue with the circuit card. When they came back out to put a circuit card in it, they determined that there was something wrong with the washer drum. They said they were going to come out the next day to fix that, but they didn’t, so I had to get a hold of the contractor that was working on it. They apologized for not getting back with me, and they sent a master repairman out who determined that it was going to take several hours to repair. So they referred it to American Home Shield to determine if they were going to repair it or replace it. So that was the process of how that contractor determined what all the faults were, and for each problem, they had to wait for the necessary parts.
I ended up having to take my laundry to the Laundromat for several weeks and I'm still doing so because American Home Shield called back and said that they were going to replace my washer but the washer they wanted to replace mine with was not going to be available for a couple more weeks. So I asked if I could just buy my own washer and for them to reimburse me.
I have American Home Shield for several years now and I never had any major problems. But they should set a certain amount of visits before they could say that something needs to be replaced. I had an air conditioner and I don’t know how many times they had to come out before they determined that it needed to be replaced. Despite these, I had good experiences with them so I always recommend them. My son is getting ready to buy a house and that's part of his contract, for them to provide American Home Shield on the house.

We're having a terrible time with AHS. On the 13th of November, they sent out a technician to look at our oven. The contractor told us that they cannot replace the part that we have. It's going to have to be rebuilt and that they'll send it off. AHS was supposed to contact us and ask us if we either want the unit to be rebuilt or if we want a cash settlement. However, I called them and I have been held two different times for over two hours each time and never got to speak to anybody. I've never experienced a situation where you cannot talk to a person.
The contractor that came here, however, was exceptionally nice. They were very confident and knew what they were doing. They told us that when the part is no longer available, they send it to the company. The company then rebuilds it, sends it back, and they come back and install it. They also told us that it usually takes 30 days but because AHS hasn't okayed anything, they haven't sent the part off. I don't know what's happening. It's Christmas and we don't have an oven.
Hi, Gary. You should not have to wait that long for your repairs to be completed. I apologize for the delays in reaching a resolution. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to further assist.

I had a tub drain that needed to be fixed and it was going on for a while. Plus, my sink was getting loose for a period of time. It happened quickly and I was afraid it was going to break. I've been gone a couple of days and I noticed that when I came home from out of town. I called in and told AHS about it and they gave me a name and a number of who was going to do it. After I had my claim number, I called the vendor and asked when we could set things up. They set up an appointment for the leak for the next day and they fixed it. They did a very good job.
The contractors AHS have sent have usually been professional and done the job well. They've always been reliable and on time. Through a call or an email, AHS' customer service always checks to make sure that somebody contacted me and that I was satisfied with the service I got. AHS says it takes 24 hours, but I can see why that might irritate some people if they didn't get somebody returning their call. Instead of waiting for a call from the vendors, encouraging people to call, like I do, might reduce some people's anxieties.

I had the energy people over on a Sunday night and they smelled something bad coming outside with the furnace pipes. So, they showed me down, asked to get my furnace, and we had American Home Shield get a heater company over. AHS was very responsive and quick, and the small family-owned company was great too. They said the furnace was bad, replaced it two days later, and did it as fast as they could. We appreciated them and would use them again. You have to use Home Shield too.

My gas furnace went out and submitting a claim for it with American Home Shield was pretty easy. Also, the contractor that they sent was phenomenal. They were very prompt and they called to let me know when they were coming and they came when they said they were coming. Since the repair, everything is working great. My contract was getting ready to expire and because the service was so great, I renewed it. It’s a wonderful benefit. It’s a peace of mind benefit.

My refrigerator was not cooling. I started a claim to AHS online but didn’t get a response. I called on the phone and they couldn’t get a guy out here. The GE repair guy was busy and I ended up waiting 10 days. I said I can't live without a refrigerator for that long and finally, they gave me permission to hire someone else. I hired a contractor and they were here the same day I called them. The ref was repaired and it has been fine since then. Although AHS paid off for the services of the contractor I hired, I’m quite dissatisfied with the experience. AHS should have other contractors to fall back on if they can’t get their prime guy.

At first, I was hesitant because there's Choice and several others that are not as cool and I've heard a lot of negative things from them. But a couple of guys at my work said American Home Shield has been really good so I gave them a shot. I tried something small that I had a problem with and they surprised the heck out of me. American Home Shield got me up to par with everything. It was too good to be true.
I thought they were just romancing me but then I had another problem and they were right on the ball again. By now, I've called them four times already and with three of them, the same thing happened. The guys that they send are professional. They are gentlemen who are cool, clean and courteous. American Home Shield had said I have to put on the ticket then they sent me back an email within minutes and the other company within a short time. They all would touch base with me. If the contractor is coming in, he would keep me well-informed when he was on his way, etc. The experience has been awesome and I hope it continues that way.

I call American Home Shield to file claims and they text me who the service provider is going to be, then the techs reach out when they're going to be there. It's a smooth process. Recently, our 20 year-old oven malfunctioned and wouldn't unlock. We had to shut the breaker off. The contractor that came had Yelp reviews that weren’t so good, but he did a good job and I'd have him back again. They were on time, neat and cleaned up after themselves. Plus, they kept us updated on when our part would be in.
So far, the work has been good but American Home Shield keeps on repairing the oven rather than replacing it. It's a waste of money and I suggest AHS looks at the larger picture. In our case, our unit is old and AHS should have given us the option if we wanted to repair it or have the money to replace something that would be comparable to the unit. American Home Shield is okay but we’re not sure if we’re going to renew because their prices keep on going up every single year which is ridiculous. They charge $85 for a service call when they come out plus over $800 a year. For that money, I could buy a new oven.

We submit our claim online or over the phone. American Home Shield's site was very easy to navigate but it takes a long time to get a call back when you do it online. When you call, their average wait time is one hour but once you get someone, they are helpful. AHS replaced our refrigerator freezer and they had great guys who delivered it. Any claim we made in the past, whoever they send are usually really top notch.
One of the reasons we kept AHS was because it was more of a custom refrigerator/freezer. However, after a few years and you don't read through the contract, they changed it from full replacement to a cap of $3000. And it was a $10,000 refrigerator. We asked AHS about it and they said that that was what is in our contract and we just didn't catch it. Now, we know exactly what they cover and don't cover after that. So, people should always read the contract thoroughly each time they get a new one or learn the hard way. Overall, they are better than some of the other ones. They are satisfactory. They just need to work on their telephone reporting because that is the most frustrating part.

I've been very pleased with American Home Shield and I have nothing but good thoughts for them. I’ve been with them for 17 years, since I got the one-year warranty with my home purchase. At the time my husband was disabled and we really couldn't do maintenance stuff anymore so we kept them. Previously, the wait when I called was fine but I noticed that if I call now, it's always hard to get through the line. Nobody will stay on the phone waiting for 30 minutes, so they need to have a line where we can leave our name and number and they call us back. But the reps are very nice and helpful when I get them on the phone. Recently, I had to call AHS because my furnace went out. The experience went very well with the contractor and the furnace has been good since the repair.
I recommend AHS all the time and I tell people having AHS would be the best thing they’ll ever do. They can forget about waiting on a family member to come and repair some for them. Just pay a little upfront fee and someone will fix it. If it's not fixed within 60 days, they'll come back on the same money paid and then they'll get it fixed for you.

We’ve had AHS for five years. Ever since I've had them, it was very easy for me to maneuver online. When my heater did not come on recently, I submitted a claim online. Then they got back to me and told me who would be coming, and approximately when the contractor would be coming. It was the beginning of the season and the heating unit needed to be checked. AHS responded quickly and the serviceman they sent was a miracle worker. He went out and it took him minutes to work on it. He knew what to do and got the job done. He got my heater on and it’s been working fine since then. I'm pleased that I have AHS.

American Home Shield is definitely something I use and my experience with them is mostly positive. They get the qualified professional out to me quickly so I found a lot of value in it. The only negative is their customer service. It's something I didn't really care for once I try to contact them. I call them and they put you on hold for an hour and a half and it's crazy. It's one of the worst experiences. As long as you don't have to contact them, everything is good. I like sending emails and they gave me the whole, "Oh, somebody will get back to you." And nobody ever got back to me.
The issue ended up taken care of itself so it wasn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. But you'd like to be able to call the company and get somebody on the phone if you have an issue especially somebody you've been doing business with for years. I've been doing business with American Home Shield for nine years now and that is an area for improvement for them. They're not some small fly-by-night company and they have a lot of customers. They should have a much better customer service operations provider.
My most recent claim was the day before Thanksgiving and we were cooking some food, getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner. The garbage disposal went out on me so things were stuck up and all that. It took them a few days to get somebody out because of the holidays but it was straightforward when somebody came. I'd definitely recommend it. There's good value because, in homes, there's always something going wrong so you would want to be able to have that insurance. That way you don't have to come out of pocket for thousands of dollars if the plumbing goes out or if the heating or air goes out. You can just pay $75 service fee along with the monthly rate. So you save a lot of money and it makes it very easy to have that peace of mind knowing that. Especially if you're not a handy person, you can call somebody and a trained professional is going to come and take care of it for you.

My AC suddenly stopped working so I went online the night I found out that something was wrong and submitted a claim for it with AHS. The submission process only took a few seconds and I was very satisfied with how AHS handled the situation. They sent me an email that a request was sent to a certain company and the next morning, the contractor called me and we set up the appointment. It was so hot at the time so he had to come as early as possible. He showed up on time just before noon that day and spent an hour trying to repair the AC. I watched how he worked on the outdoor units and I was very satisfied.

I had a clogged toilet then I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the process worked pretty good. I usually do it on the phone because sometimes their online choices aren’t very good. All of the contractors they sent seemed to be very good. I've been very happy that’s why I've stayed with them for at least 20 years now.

When I called American Home Shield to file a claim for the electricals of the pool fountain, the reps were straightforward. They took all the notes and dispatched the contractors. The contractors came on time, diagnosed it and told me what the issue was. They were professional. But they had to wait four weeks for the parts. They fixed two out of the three problems. AHS kept debating with me on the third problem on what was covered and not. I told them, "You guys are assuming the salt cell system is not covered, which is fine. What I'm telling you is the electrical panel is the problem.” But they wouldn't agree, so they haven't fixed the third part of the problem. It was only because American Home Shield does not authorize it and not because the contractor can't do it.
The pool isn’t working until now because without the salt cell electrical fixed, the salt doesn't get generated, so there's no chlorination in the pool. I'm having to do it manually right now until I find the problem and fix it because American Home Shield does not want to fix it. On other little things, AHS have all been fine with the claims. They came and fixed the garbage disposal and my toilet when they were not working and I paid them 100 bucks. But this one claim turned out to be a problem and they were difficult to work with.

The worst. The first time we called (about a week and a half ago) it was almost two hours on hold and then they forgot to submit the order to the electrician so we had to call back, wait again and have them actually send through the request. Problem wasn't fixed and so we had to call back today. Just spent 2.5 hours on the phone with them only to have a recorded message come on telling me they are experiencing an interruption in the phone lines and then hung up on me. Tried to submit a ticket online but it won't let me because there was a recent work order for the same work. Yes, there was. And it wasn't fixed. Which is why I am calling again. If this isn't just an outright scam, they are making it so difficult to get any money for repairs it just isn't worth it. Put the money spent on them in a savings account and use that when things break down - don't give them a dime.

If you call American Home Shield, they would keep you on the phone waiting for an hour on average. I don't understand how they do business. It was so frustrating and we gave up. When we filed a claim we submitted it online. The heater was not working to the Jacuzzi. When the guy came he said the plumbing was disconnected between the motor and the Jacuzzi but that it was not covered and he wanted out. In my contract, the plumbing is covered but since they said it was not we are waiting. My brother talked to somebody and that was the last we heard. It was a terrible experience.
I understand your frustration with the hold times you have endured to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to help resolve your claim with the jacuzzi pool heater that needed to be repaired.

This was the first claim I submitted since I’ve been with American Home Shield. I did it over the phone so I can get the names and places. There's an electrical issue with my doorbell and the other problem was with the dishwasher. The representatives were excellent and explained in detail that there will be two technicians who will come. Then, the electrician who came did a very good job of squaring the inoperative doorbell and the exhaust fan in the upstairs bathroom. He got both of them working.
Luckily by the time electrician had seen this, the problem with the dishwasher has been found, with the hose that had broken. I squared them away myself, so I would need a different one to make sure all is wrapped up and this man took care of the dishwasher problem himself. I'm glad I solved the other problem along with the dishwasher before AHS sent out the other technician. I'd recommend American Home Shield at the top of the line and the technician who handled me did a very excellent job. I'm a retired veteran and I definitely know customer service is very important.

In the third week of October, I had a plumbing issue and filing a claim for it with American Home Shield went pretty good. The technician was friendly and got here within 48 hours. Also, they were able to schedule when I was home so that was good. During another issue, though, in which my refrigerator was leaking, it took the people about a week and a half to fix it. That was unpleasant. When the technician came in here, I have to show him where the leak was. I’m the one that discovered where the leak was and he had the wrong part so he had to come back. That’s why the whole process took about a week and a half.
I’ve been with AHS for almost 10 years and I wish I’m able to choose my contractor instead of them picking because, sometimes, they’re not available. I live in Arizona and if something happens with my air conditioning unit, I hope that they get here the same day. Also, I’ve compared AHS with other companies and their packages are good but the service fee is a little high.

American Home Shield has been very good at what they've been doing but they have a couple of contractors that I'd rather not do business with. My AC had a problem. My unit is a water-cooled one and it was working, but one of the sensors went and ran out of water, and it wouldn't shut off. I needed it fixed because if something goes wrong, the whole unit would have been possibly broken. The original contractor didn't get it fixed and I kept on complaining, and American Home Shield finally sent out a different contractor who fixed it that day. And when I asked why it would not be covered, he said that it was because he said so.
He left without doing anything so I had to call AHS again. I was on hold for more than an hour and a half every time I called them. And because they would not give me any reply, I told them to cancel my membership. They then said they would send out somebody else but I had to pay extra money for it. But I told them I was not going to pay one penny to them because of my experience. It went on and on for a few days and I wasted 10 hours of my time dealing with them with no good result. And then, they finally said they would cover it but they were going to get somebody else to do it. They sent a guy but I should also pay $1400 for the permit which was two times more than when I got the unit installed by somebody else. It was over an hour hold and the only way you could get somebody is if you call like you were a new customer coming in but of course, they couldn't help you with anything. The website was user-friendly but I was really irritated because they wanted to charge my credit card automatically and I did not want to give my credit card information. I'm used to paying the vendor that actually comes. So I chose to pay for it two days after the service, in case something didn't go well.
In the past, I've been able to call in the concern and actually get a live person. A lot of people are going towards using the automated stuff but I am not one of those. For people who don't mind doing this online and not having a whole lot of service, the warranty works fine. But if American Home Shield can possibly go back to using the phone system for people who don't want to do everything online, that would be a nice thing. I usually submit my claims on the internet because the phone is a disaster with American Home Shield now. It’s a terrible service. When I first signed up, I could call and talk to a customer service rep within 10 to 15 minutes. Now, it’s literally over an hour, which is unacceptable. It’s very frustrating and has made me think about leaving. Lately I've been doing it online where you enter your contract, click the service and click the item involved, and that’s it. The problem is that you can’t request multiple items. If you have multiple plumbing issues, there’s nowhere to detail it so you have to talk to customer service. I’ve got two garage door openers and they’re both broken, so it's just one claim and I’ve got to call and physically talk to somebody so they can put the second claim in.
But anytime I’ve had a problem getting hold of somebody with requesting service or multiple items, the customer service department has been good. The contractors that I’ve had have all been very good as well. With the appliances, I typically have the same company, though not necessarily the same person. American Home Shield has been great up until last year. The person dispatched for my recent claim was helpful. He was very knowledgeable and very professional. However, I was dissatisfied with my previous claim for a replacement of an oven port. I tried to submit the claim online but it wasn’t easy. I wound up calling the claim to American Home Shield. I live in a house that was built in 59 so the wiring is old. There were a lot of issues and I have some outlets that don’t work. When I plug the microwave and toaster oven in the same plug at the same time, it flips the little safety switch in the outlet and shuts both of them. I’ve learned not to run both of them at the same time but the outlet burned out. I know how to swap outlets but because it’s an old home, I wanted to take precaution and have the other outlets fixed as well.
I submitted the claim and I told AHS that there were multiple outlets I wanted to be fixed but I wanted the oven port replaced. AHS said it was fine but they never passed the information to the repair guy. But he was able to change the oven port and left. I asked him through a text message about the other outlets but he told me he was only aware of the port being replaced. I paid 75 bucks for somebody to do something that I could do for about 5 or 10.
Also, I wanted to pay until after the port got fixed and AHS asked if I’d like to delay payment on my card for up to 48 hours. I said yes because I want to be sure it was going to be done. They wouldn’t process the claim and it kept saying that I’ll have to wait online for a customer service rep as the next available one will be after 30 minutes. I did it twice and I had one time that I waited a longer time but I never got a hold of anybody. That time, I did something different. I told them to just go ahead and immediately charge the card and when I did that, AHS processed the claim. That was unsatisfying and it made me shop around for another company.

I've had some problems with American Home Shield in the past. My husband was sick and it would get very warm in the summertime, and we had problems with the air conditioner going out. We made a call on the weekend because we had low heat and my husband couldn't get hot, but they told us we couldn't get anybody until Thursday. We called somebody who came out and fixed it, and we sent American Home Shield the bill. We didn’t hear from them and they never paid anything. I still have American Home Shield and we've been with them for a long time, but I'm not happy with it, especially in an emergency like that. There had been other times we called them twice about our air conditioning and it was the same problem. We haven't had to call them a lot in the past but the most recent claim was fine. I submitted my claim by phone and the reps were okay. The electrician was very good and it was a very good experience.

I filed a claim for our kitchen oven over the phone with American Home Shield. They said the people who would be performing the service would be in contact with me. I asked for a follow-up phone number and they gave it to me. I was contacted within 24 hours to set up a time when they could come in and do the job. The contractor called and gave us a window, and then called within 15 minutes saying, "Hey, we're on our way." So, he was no problem. Our interaction was fine and there was no difficulty at all. He looked at it and said, "Oh well, this is going to be pretty simple." I said, “Great.” He was done in 15 minutes. It was one of those things that take specialized screws and stuff to put in that I couldn't handle. He fixed it in no time at all and was in and out of here very quickly. The oven works fine now.
We've had several claims with American Home Shield and everything has come through. We had an issue with our washer, which took several times out. But after the initial payment, everything was taken care of. So, other than the wrong people that couldn't do the job until they found the right person, it was fine. But I don't think that is American Home Shield's problem. We know now that we have a GE washer/dryer and it's a stack unit. If we ever have any problem with it, we will specifically ask for GE to come out rather than a generic home repair or repair person because I know that they have different companies that are on contract with them. When the GE guy came out, he found some problems and stuff that probably the other people couldn't find or were not really sufficiently accustomed to the GE product.
What we pay for a month is very fair for what American Home Shield covers. We live in a condo so there's some limited stuff because of the condominium as opposed to a regular house but we're very happy with them. I would recommend them if others wanted some protection at a very reasonable per month cost. It’s an initial $75 per visit and then after that, everything is covered. Several years ago, we had a washer and dryer. They could not get the parts repaired and they gave us a very satisfactory remuneration to go out and buy a new washer and dryer. So, we're way ahead of the game so far from what we paid them through the years. We're very happy.

The head of the shower was leaking and American Home Shield hooked me up with a plumber who came the next day. He was great, did a great job fixing it and was very timely. In fact, he was even early and had to wait outside because I had to pick up my kids. I usually file a claim over the phone and it's automated, so it's not very long. Then I'd get an email confirmation and within 24 hours, I'd get a phone call from whoever they assign me to. The setup is streamlined. However, if I have to ask a question or change anything, then I generally would have to call and it would take forever to get a real person on the line. For instance, I waited for 45 minutes when I had to change my credit card information. But once I speak to someone, they're very helpful.

American Home Shield has been very helpful. They've been responsive when we have a claim. Our most recent claim was for replacing a light switch but the last major one we had was when we needed our garage door springs replaced. They were the tight springs that are over the garage door. We submitted the claim over the phone and had a very pleasant interaction with the representative.
They came out, took care of it and were very professional. It turned out that we only needed one garage door replaced but it doesn't make sense to replace one and leave the other one which was 20 years old. American Home Shield wound up replacing both. We repaid the contractor for the other spring and American Home Shield reimbursed us for it. They've been here to repair our dishwasher twice but with the amount of money that they've put into that dishwasher, we could have bought a new dishwasher. I'll never understand why they want to keep repairing it. We've been within the limits of the policy and we’re very satisfied with American Home Shield.

We've had very good results every time we've called American Home Shield. The only problem we have is getting through. We get put on hold on the phone and the wait can be anywhere between 20 to 50 minutes, and then usually a recording comes on saying to leave a message. So, I’ve learned to do everything online as I get better results in requesting a service call. Sometimes I have a little struggle with their website, though, but it's okay.
The latest claim I had was for our refrigerator’s door mechanism that was not functioning, so I went online and I was contacted within 24 hours by the company that was going to service it and they were out within a day. A part had to be ordered and I got it within less than a week, then they installed and repaired it. I was very pleased. We've had the coverage for a few years now and the service that we've had has been very good. We've recommended AHS several times to people.

It's winter and American Home Shield took too long to repair the furnace so I brought in someone else. When I came home, I felt that the furnace was not working. I have a kid, and my wife had three operations. I asked the rep if they could make it speedy. At 7:00, the house was freezing and I could not get out. I called my friend and he came and fixed the problem. By the time the contractor called me at 1:00, the furnace had already been fixed. AHS is good but their contractors need to come out faster especially when it's for air condition or heating. Other than that, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. For peace of mind, I recommend getting them.

Five months ago, I submitted a claim over the phone to AHS for my AC and the contractors took four days to come out the first time. I had to call again and they were supposed to come back but didn't make it for another three or four days after. They blew me off a couple of times and I had a couple missed appointments before they came and checked. They patched up my AC with sealant and dye and were supposed to come back and find out where the leak was. But they didn't do that until the air became warm again at the end of summer. I put in another service call and they were going to come out and replace some part on it for starters but it still hasn't been resolved. I also spoke with American Home Shield and they said that the parts just came in, which was the contractor's excuse for not coming a couple of months before, yet I still haven't seen them. So, I wouldn't recommend them.

It took two visits for him to fix the refrigerator. However, I'm not renewing my contract with AHS. It's way too expensive. I wish they could get rid of the copay, the service fee you have to pay upfront. The competition doesn’t do that. They should reduce the overall cost and have a wider variety of contractors.

I'm a realtor and American Home Shield is one of our preferred vendors, and I have it for my personal use as well. Recently, my showers needed to be replaced because of a leak as one of those emergency shut-off things under my master bedroom had broken off. Submitting a claim online is fine except when you have more than one thing that you need them for. The website isn’t user-friendly for putting additional stuff and I have to call in to put the second item on. The categories they have under plumbing are fairly generic and it would be helpful if there was room for additional things under plumbing that you could actually write something in because I was on hold for over an hour to have that. And anytime I tried to call, which was rare, it's been a very long wait.
Nevertheless, the contractors that they sent out were good. I had a plumber from Pro Master and I was very happy with them. I had someone from an appliance company because I thought I had a problem with my dishwasher, and it turned out that there wasn’t a problem but I liked the technician that that company sent. I have referred three vendors to clients just to keep myself out of trouble with the vendors, and if anybody asks me if I use any one of them, I tell them that in my home I have American Home Shield. But I leave it at that because there's a thin line we walk.

I thought I was going to have to put in a new water heater but the guy that American Home Shield sent diagnosed and took care of it immediately. Also, submitting a claim online for that was an easy process. I only had one bad experience with AHS, and it had been with my air conditioner. The company that they sent me was terrible. Their guy extended damage to my house. A leak occurred because he did some bad connection. It wetted up all my carpet and it leaked into my garage. It also bubbled up the sheetrock. He was supposed to come back and repair what he did wrong. He even put on my receipt that it was his problem and that he was going to take care of it but he never came back, and my problem is still here. Also, when I called, I was put on hold for over an hour. One time, the phone was hung up after waiting an hour.
But I've had some customer service that has gone above and beyond, wrote exactly what I'm telling them and felt very compassionate. One even gave me a room at a hotel because I was put out for so long. I have been very pleased with AHS as they have responded to my problem. The best thing I could have ever done is buy a program like that and I have recommended them to many of my friends.

I filed a claim recently with American Home Shield for the cooking stove. The control panel wasn’t working and it was shorting out and wouldn’t heat things. And the inside window of the oven was cracked. My daughter submitted the claim and it was a pain in the neck to get a hold of them. She was on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes yesterday, waiting for them to answer. We tried online and they were sometimes rejected and other times we got right through.
But most of the time the interactions with the contractors are good and they get a hold of us very quickly. The one company here in town usually comes the same day and gets it taken care of. A couple of them are about 60 miles away and take a day or two or a week to get here. Their work has been okay. If they didn’t get it repaired or fixed the first time they’d come back. But it gets frustrating when you’re on the phone for 20, 30 or 40 minutes, even up to an hour. They told my daughter it would be 30 minutes yesterday but took an hour and 10 minutes. They should improve on the operator. And sometimes in the bills they only pay a certain amount for Freon and people charge about twice as much for Freon as they allow, or three times as much and it would be nice if it was changed although I understand part of it too.

My toilet broke and when I came downstairs, I had a leak coming from the ceiling. I thought it was the toilet so I went back upstairs and shut the toilet off. I called American Home Shield and they sent a plumber out but he was unable to find any problems. There was nothing showing that there were any breaks. The bathroom tub cut up a pin-head sized chip but I haven't showered that morning.
I called the neighbor across the street, who has a construction, to come over right away to make sure I'd shut everything off. I'm 75 years old and living alone so it was not like I abused anything. He went up on the ladder, looked and couldn't find anything. He thought, maybe the water has come back up and had no place to go, so it overflowed. The plumber thought it was the other thing in the trunk and my neighbor came over and took care of that for me.
I let it go for three weeks with an open hole that I covered with plastic in the event that it was going to happen again since nobody could figure out what caused it to start with. I didn't want to fix the hole and have it happened again. I called AHS back and they sent somebody out to put in plaster and tackle over it. At that time, my ceiling fan was where the water came out through. The light works but the fan itself doesn't. All I asked was if it was covered but they told me no because that would be a secondary.
They sent the plumber twice. One was to look for the leak to begin with and the second one was to do the dry walling and patch the hole. Both couldn't find anything and the second plumber covered it all up. It hasn't leaked again and it's been about two months, so it was just a fluke. Plus, the two guys that they’ve sent were absolutely fantastic. They did everything that they could to find what the problem was and they were very professional and nice. Now, I have to have somebody come out, sand and paint but they don't do that. But I would definitely recommend AHS. I had them for years when I had another home in Florida and I'm really satisfied with them.

My experience with American Home Shield has been fine but they raised my rates. I have a large home and I was paying $77 a month, and it went to $115. If I never had a claim, it probably would have stayed at $77, but I live in a home where my furnace and appliances are over 15 years old. With all the electronics these days, it's predetermined that those computer boards will fail. Then their phone services were terrible as it was always an hour late. But the contractors that they have sent out have always been fine. Recently, I submitted a claim for my stove which I had for 20 years. It was great and it was working until a part went out. There was no place to get that part, so I had to get a new stove. And then American Home Shield doubled my rates.
I stayed with American Home Shield as they offer services for pool heaters, pool pumps, and sauna. For a normal home, I would go with another company because they're so much cheaper. Another home warranty company is $40 a month for a regular home but it's just the basic stuff. That's why $115 ends up being a bargain for me. They will keep fixing and then there's not going to be a part of the air conditioner, so I get a brand-new air conditioner. And so, having a home warranty is a lot better than coming up with $2500 for an air conditioner. It’s like I'm pre-paying for my new appliances.

HVAC systems are very complex and I don't know about fixing them. I knew ours was an old system but it was a system that should last 30 years if properly maintained. This one was only 13 years old, so it got a good 17 years. I've had a problem with it for years and AHS sent some company out about three years ago to replace the compressor.
The company, Cool Experts, found some kind of twisted copper wire. He also told me that I would have to pay for the Freon to recharge the entire system. I asked how much Freon would it take and he said 25 pounds. But in his report, he said I'm the one that came up with that number. I also asked how much was that going to cost me and he said $1500. He also said that they have to put their own Freon in which was a lot of BS because three companies that I hired prior took my Freon. I called the installer who came over the next day and he told me about drop-in Freon and it's about $200. So, AHS was going to make some money. I feel they should pay for the whole thing.
I asked the woman I talked to at American Home Shield how I could get access to the report, and she said, "Well, you can't unless you get a court order." I said, "I hope we can resolve this without needing to take this to court. Because I really don't like dealing with lawyers." I shouldn't have to hire a lawyer to do any of this. That's totally ridiculous. It was not yet resolved and I'm in the middle of it, and I've not heard from them in over a week. And, I'm not happy. I've been using them for 10 years on this house and then for around a couple of years on a rental house that I own. I pay every month, and it's over $600 a year. Plus, I pay them $75 when somebody comes out. They're supposed to replace something when it breaks.

I had one HVAC claim that was a repeat problem and it happened on weekends when the temperature was 110 degrees and whenever I had family coming over. It was crazy. Once, we were having a family barbecue and my cousins were here with their newborn from California. That’s when the HVAC wasn’t cooling then it would work for a while and then something else would go wrong. By the things that were going wrong, the contractors should have known what the problem was and that it was a bigger thing. But they kept putting coolant in it. If the coolant keeps going away, that should have been the first clue that we have a leak. They were basically putting a band-aid on an artery. The HVAC unit kept failing and we needed to replace the system. For the new system, they were not the same company that I used. I went with somebody else.
That aside, I usually try to call claims in to American Home Shield and the reps are always professional and courteous. The wait time for a contractor to come out used to be 24 hours. Now, you’re lucky if you get it in three days, which is not acceptable, and if the contractor actually fixes the problem. American Home Shield has gotten worse especially in the last two years. They have no quality and I’m divided about canceling them. They caught the bottom of the barrel in the plumbing world and they need to have some quality behind who they send out. If American Home Shield is going to write their rights or charge more for the call, then let’s have more quality people in a timely fashion.

I called AHS for repair to kitchen Faucet, their contractor BUDGET ROOTER INC came to repair and just fix the leak and not replaced the broken handle. Picture is attached for reference. The contractor keen to fix only the cost under my service charge (75$) and not at all responsible for any other things needed. They are coming to repair with expectation, to fix only. Leave nothing else. When I followed up with AHS at least 5 times and their IVR system, will make you to wait for hours for follow up calls... First time only 10 mins. Second time 30 mins. Third time an hour. Then fourth time 2 and half hours...so and so. I need to fix the item as soon as possible. AHS repetitive are behaving like not responsible for fix and I have to live with that.
Good morning, Ajith. Thank you for taking time out of your day to advise us of your service issues. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to assist you in resolution.

I write this as I've been sitting on hold for over two hours waiting to speak to a customer service representative. As stated by other reviewers my first call was disconnected after 56 minutes of hold time. Second call was disconnected at 43. Thanks for the break ;)! Currently 35 minutes into my third call. It's an endurance game folks! We called AHS to have our dishwasher repaired. It's a Bosch that is just over a year old and the soap dispenser would not open. They sent out AG Appliance Repair in southern California to resolve the issue. AG gives a 5 hour window of when they will arrive. So there's not much you can do other then take the day off work.
Technician shows up and says he needs to order parts and then slips the invoice to my wife to sign stating that AG Appliance completed all repairs to our satisfaction and we authorize them to bill AHS in full. Well... You didn't so in looking out for AHS my wife didn't sign but said she would be happy to when the work was complete. The technician slams his clipboard on the counter and throws the paper at my wife as he storms out the door. Clearly an uncomfortable situation for my wife who's home alone with the guy. I proceeded to call the appliance company to inform them that this technician was not welcome in my home.
So to my wife's surprise it was the same technician who showed up after multiple calls to find out if anyone was coming back. Now she's left with a tough choice let the douche bag back into the house and hopefully have a working dishwasher again considering she's lost two days of work and we've been without a dishwasher for two weeks or refuse the service and hope the shady company sends out someone decent next time.
She opted for option one and let the guy in. He installed the new parts and then informed her that our dishwasher no longer worked. What??? We were under the impression that you were here to fix it? We now have a dishwasher that won't even turn on. The technician's response "I don't know. It's your dishwasher." Needless to say I'm on hold now hoping that someone at AHS will help. My expectations sent very high and considering I'm 48 minutes into my third call I don't know if I'll be able to invest the time to find out. Buyer beware. You'll be better off without the frustration of having this home warranty in your life.
Hello, Zach. I apologize that one of our contractors behaved aggressively in your home. I would like to assist you to reach a resolution with your dishwasher. Back in June, my refrigerator was not working properly. AHS sent one guy out and he said he could not fix it as there was a closed, contained system after he did the first repair on it. It was getting loud at the time as well. They then sent this other group out and by the time they made the appointment with this other group, it took them over two weeks, from the first visit, before they even came out for the second visit to actually do the repair. I had to call them four times since they weren’t calling me to make the repair. I complained to Home Shield that this group wasn’t doing their job, they weren’t making the appointment, and they weren't doing it right. However, they wouldn't change to a different group. By this time, it has been over two months the we were without a refrigerator. After they did their repair, it still didn’t cool, and it was running loud again.
AHS sent this group out again and it took another two weeks before they would come out again to look at it. They were here three times, and by that time it was the end of September. They said it was fixed, but it wasn’t. So, I ordered thermometers for the refrigerator since it wasn't cooling right. I didn’t trust it, and didn’t want to put food in because we already lost over $1,000 worth of food because of this. I called on October and I told them the refrigerator was still not running. The temperature would go from 37 degrees and then all of a sudden, it would jump to 50 degrees. It was continually running and not constant. They were supposed to make an appointment for it but it was a week and a half later.
I asked AHS how come I’ve not gotten anything about my appointment on my refrigerator and they said that they saw that I didn’t need repair. I then made an appointment for the 17th time. I was starting to get mad since they had five chances to fix it, and still, it was not working and was getting loud. They made an appointment with another company, Sears, to come out. Sears came out in the mid of October. By that time, I was getting sick of it, so I sent a letter to my attorney general’s office as I’m disabled and I was getting no satisfaction. If they can’t fix it the third time, then they should’ve replaced it by then since there was something wrong with it.
Sears came out here and their guy called and told AHS on the phone that they won't fix and touch the refrigerator as it has already been opened once. Once that closed system’s been opened once, there’s nothing they can do with it, if it couldn’t be fixed after the first time. They don’t do it if someone else has already opened it since the odds of it getting fixed correctly is unlikely. AHS then made an appointment for the other people to come back out. They came back out on the first of October, did some stuff and put it together.
We stopped using it as it made a real high-pitched noise all of a sudden, while we were in bed. The next thing we knew, it came up on the morning of October and it wasn’t running at all. The motor was running, which was hot like diesel fuel and it wasn’t doing anything. It wasn’t cooling as well. It was 70 degrees in the refrigerator, so we unplugged it.
The group that came after Sears came back out and did some work. We found out there was a hole in the top and it looked like it had burst open. He fixed that, turned it on, and then it went and stayed past the temperature after that. On November 1st, I called AHS and was trying to get them to come back and fix it. The attorney general’s office had sent some letter suggesting that they do something about it, and they put it through investigation. At that point, Home Shield said they would replace it. But it was three weeks before we got a new refrigerator. I paid my original fee for doing the service. It was supposed to be a one-time fix fee. But, I kept getting bills all throughout for additional fees until lately. I had to call them hundreds of times and was on the phone for hours at a time, waiting for them to talk to me. It was a very poor service.
My main problem was with the one company AHS was dealing with who wouldn’t work on the refrigerator. They said they wouldn’t get a guarantee that they would be paid for the parts until they got the parts from AHS. They wouldn’t even make an appointment for it until after they had the parts on hand, which was two weeks later. We were almost six months without a refrigerator and I got the new refrigerator in the week of Thanksgiving.
No one should have to ever go through what I had gone through. That is unbelievable. I was on hold on the phone with them for four days, trying to get answers, since the second company that they called would not even call me to let me know what was going on and make the appointments. I had to call them to make sure the appointments were made and verified. The most important thing is that their service is not timely like it’s supposed to be. I wouldn’t even put them on the map. As soon as I could get out of my contract, I’m done with them.
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your refrigerator repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve your experience and get the repairs completed as soon as possible.
Thank you,

Electrical problem and the assigned contractor responded within 1 week. He advised that he would get the part needed and get back with me. He never got back and after several call to him he said he had the part on order. After several weeks I started calling AHS and always had 1 hour or more waiting time. After a week the wife and I stayed on the phone waiting and did get to talk to someone. They said they would contact the contractor. I got an e-mail from AHS that said the contractor would contact us. After another week we tried to call AHS and again the waiting time was in excess of 1 hour. We never heard from the contractor so we called AHS and waited the hour and talked to them. They assigned a different contractor which came and corrected the problem within a couple of days. I wonder what is wrong with the customer service at AHS?

This company is great until a couple of claims are filed. Then they start using the gray areas of your contract. It’s loaded with grey so they can get out of paying for repairs. We were paying top dollar for their best plan. This was suppose to cover any leaking AC ducts as well clearly written in black and white on our contract. They dispatched a contractor of their choice out twice. Both said the ducts needed replacing which was causing moisture on the subfloor at the two vents in our home. This is in writing on the work orders the contractor left with me. But AHS refused to pay for the replacement of these ducts as stated in their contract. When you call and ask for a Supervisor...everyone is Supervisor. They promise to resolve it for you and you never hear back from anyone unless you call. Then you get more of the same old run around. All the while they’re drafting that monthly fee out of your account.
They also tried to charge me for an additional trip fee when they had to return on a covered issue that wasn’t repaired properly the first time. This took over three weeks of calls to get someone back out. The ducts issue arose in August of 17...to date no one has called and offered to resolve the issue and honor the contract. But I’ve had plenty of calls trying to get us to sign back up for coverage. This company has very poor customer service, very poor contractors performing the work but are one of the most expensive home Warranty providers around. If you buy a Warranty with these folks after two claims you’ll start being denied payment for coverage. Don’t waste your money!

This company prefers not to talk to talk to you. Everything is automated and they NEVER complete service in one day. I had water all over the floor in my kitchen and water under the tiles. I called AHS which took 48 hours to get a plumber out. He decided he needed to replace my $200.00 with a cheap one off his truck and told me it was better. Here we are two years later and the handle breaks off in my hand because it is cheap. Again, AHS takes time to respond, never anyone to answer the phone in less than an hour if I can wait on hold that long. Not only do they STILL charge me another $75 service fee but the plumber takes until 3:00 p.m. to come out and tell me in five minutes what he wants to do or recommend.
AHS will then approve the work order and the plumber will reschedule a time hopefully this week to complete the job. Do they understand I am WITHOUT a kitchen faucet for a problem that could be fixed in 30 minutes? - Do they care? No. They have $400 a year from me and $75 every time a service call is placed even if they put crap in my house to fix a problem. Very poor service. Other services may charge 10 dollars a month more but offer better service with top quality companies.

The washing machine leaked water from underneath and had been doing it for about a week. I called American Home Shield and it was very easy to submit the claim. The rep that I spoke with over the phone was excellent but the guy that came to fix the washing machine was a bit rough. We're having another issue with my washing machine and he's coming back again today. When he put the thing back together again, it might have been something that he did to make the drum unbalanced so it never finishes any load of laundry at all. Everything has to be wrung out by hand before it can be dried. He got really frustrated with the situation very easily. He wasn’t rude but he was highly irritable.
It used to be that American Home Shield would proffer the contract out to companies that were not in my local area, which was ridiculous, and they were not good at all. Now that we've been dealing with local companies, we feel fine about them and are much more satisfied and comfortable enough. However, the payment is done online which I don't like. Our payment didn't get through and it was going to be sent to a collection agency. I immediately called them and took care of it over the phone. Submitting payments online could be problematic that way. Also, the consultation fee of $85 dollars is steep. There are other companies that charge less. It's gotten to the point where we really have to think hard if we're going to call somebody from American Home Shield.

The warranty is a great product. This was my first experience with American Home Shield and the vendor that they sent out was wonderful so I would definitely recommend them. Submitting the claim was very easy and they were very responsive. They sent out an excellent person too. My dishwasher wasn't draining but the problem ended up being my garbage disposal. We had to wash dishes and I haven't done that in a long time. The contractor was here quite a long time because my garbage disposal would work intermittently so he was trying to figure out if he could get it to go. He finally was like, "No, this is crazy." But he was able to get it to work that day and so far, it's been good.

I used to be able to call them and get right in but recently, I had to wait an hour to get through to American Home Shield in filing a claim for an AC issue. They said it was going to be 15 minutes but, twice, I had to wait an hour. Their rep was very nice and helpful though and the company that they sent, Doctor Cool, was wonderful. They came out one night and the AC worked fine. Then the little thermostat in the hall started blanking out, so I called them and they came back out again. Their tech looked at it and I needed a new thermostat so he put that in, which was nice. They go behind their work.
This one time though, during the summer, my other air conditioner didn’t work then and AHS sent another company out. I had to pay the $100 for them to come out. I called for service again the next day because the AC wasn’t working and they charged me the $100 which wasn't right. I found out that the air conditioner was under warranty and the guy never did anything nor took anything off his truck. I have a couple of people I told that to, and they canceled theirs but I haven't. Also, last year, I called AHS for my dryer and a guy came out and said that something was wrong with the door but never fixed it so I'm going to have to call them again and pay my $100 again. Most of the time, though, AHS is very good to deal with.

I called AHS since I had a water leak. I spoke to somebody, however, it took me an hour and 15 minutes to get to them. That happens every time. AHS should have a system where people would leave their number and then they'd call back since that is a lot of time wasted. On the other hand, their reps were good and friendly. I already had one contractor come on my own to see what were the problems. They went to my roof, poured water through the pipe and then they said where the water is leaking from. Then, I called AHS and when the plumber came he said that they don't go on the roof. So, I had to call back the other contractor to come back and coordinate with my contractor and the plumber to go on the roof and pour water since the plumber could see. The plumber was very good. They came up four times and then fixed the problem.
I told them that since my other contractor had helped me three times to diagnose it and since AHS could not go on the roof, I’d rather give the job to that contractor for the drywall. My contractor came three times and AHS only paid me $190, wherein my contractor took $350 from me. This was the first time and I wanted to help him because he came three times to pour water on the roof. Other than that, I’m satisfied with AHS.

I had two claims in November and the first one was for a leaking faucet. The first plumber that came out was really nice. He worked on all of it and he made everything great. He had to order some parts, so he came back and did that. But then right after he left, the handle fell off, so we needed to have the handle put back on. I called that plumber again and they sent out another plumber after ordering parts. It was really weird, and I think I can live with this, but it was a fancy wall faucet, so the second plumber had both the hot and cold handles turned back and you could see the little tiles in them. About two or three days after he left, the handles switched back to where one went down and one went up and my husband was like, "That's the most mysterious thing I've ever seen."
Both of those plumbers were very professional and they went to great lengths to order special parts. One of them even ordered a part that he said had to come from Europe for this 19-year old faucet, so I was pleased. Since the repair, the faucet has not been leaking and the handles had been on tightly, but the faucet has been different from what it was before, and if you saw a picture of this faucet, it got these little white ceramic things that say 'hot and cold.'
The second claim last month was for the ice maker. All of the sudden, the ice in my freezer started smelling really funny. American Home Shield had put in a new ice maker earlier in the year and I was thrilled- about that. This time, a plumber by the name of Boris came and he didn't have much bedside manners, which was fine. He came and he said, "Well, you just need to dump your ice out every two months." His manner was rushed and gruff, and he hardly opened the refrigerator before he said that.
I said I was dumping it out every two weeks and I'm not putting any of that ice in my drinks. He said I needed a water purifier and had to put that in the basement of our house. I felt like somebody else should check that because all the other people that American Home Shield had sent out had been so nice except for this Boris guy. Also, sometimes, I've been on a hold for a long time to get through American Home Shield reps. I probably should just bite the bullet and do it online but I’m not really good at that as I’m a senior. Nevertheless, if a friend who would ask about American Home Shield, I would tell them to just do it.

Three months ago, we opened a claim on our microwave that broke down. The submission of the claim was pretty easy and straightforward. We can either go online and submit it or we can call someone and submit. But it was really difficult to get a hold of some person. And with online, we get alerts but those really don’t tell much. The whole process for the microwave claim happened online. Then, AHS sent a contractor who came in within four business days. He looked at it and told us they’ll go back and see if the microwave can be fixed and if there were parts that need to be ordered. They left us with that information saying that American Home Shield will contact us. After a few days, we received an email saying that the product was no longer available and we’ll have to put in a request for a new item. And somebody would be looking into that. The process took its own time and we never got any updates.
There was one number we could call and find out what’s happening. So, we called the usual AHS number and they transferred me to a different number since a different group takes care of the replacement. It was difficult to find out and understand what they were saying. We were looking for a replacement which is very similar to what we had and we were told to go to a site to look at the products and pick from there. It was difficult to figure out whether it’s equal to what we have or not. So, we ended up picking the same brand, GE microwave.
Once they came and installed it, we immediately knew that there was a lot of difference between the microwave in terms of the look as well as functionality. The new one made a lot of noise whereas the one we had before didn't make. Also, the one we had before had a see-through glass, so we can actually see what is happening inside the microwave that if something was boiling or basically trying to come out, we could actually see that and switch it off. But the new one is pretty dark. There were a lot of specifications that talk about the differences which we never got to see. These were some of the things that were very difficult with the online thing. We basically go and put enough information.
I wish there was a better way of understanding what we're getting into. And we had expectations that it’s just the equal end to this in terms of form and functionality. But it looked like we settled for a lesser one and it was an inconvenience and annoyance. Something that should have taken two weeks took us three months to get replaced. We were not happy with the time it took them to replace it as well as with the product that was replaced. Even though we have the warranty, we were better off just going with an outside company and pay a little bit more. But, at the end of the day, we'll probably be happier with that.
We paid $75 for the service fee so the technician can come. But if I spent $200, I would have gotten a much better, modern looking microwave. When I look at the price point, it was enough for me to have gone with something new as opposed to just sticking with the replacement. I’ve had American Home Shield for five years. It's more convenient to have for repairs since I just call one number and AHS will send somebody to take care of it.

American Home Shield sent a contractor to fix a plumbing issue with the sink in my washroom. That was good but the guy also said that my piping was old steel. The best piping would have been copper because it doesn't rust up. What he put in there was plastic though, because that was all AHS would allow. I figured they're in the business and they're going to take the cheaper route so I accepted whatever they gave me. The pipe got corroded and I would have liked the top-grade stuff but it's working good now and I have no more leak in it.
I had another guy come out to do an assessment on the swimming pool when the little jet thing stopped functioning but the company said AHS wouldn't pay for it. They must know what AHS' criteria are so I accepted what they said. I got the warranty when I bought the house and it's been a year, and I would have to renew the policy. But I did a figure on how much it would cost per month then what incidents may happen and for how much. I figured it would be cheaper to pay for the service myself so I canceled American Home Shield.

I recently had American Home Shield replace my ceiling fan. I went online for the claim and they sent me a plumber instead of an electrician. And then, I paid online because it said, “Do you want to pay with your card on file?” which is how they were billing me every month and I said yes. But the other day, I got a bill for that $100 for the ceiling fan when I had already paid it online. The rep said they’d transfer the $100 over for the electrician. I was on hold over 6 hours and 58 minutes on that call and yesterday and got a bill for that $100 again. And it doesn’t matter what I call about because I’m always on hold for at least 45 minutes. I didn’t renew with them after that. But that’s because of the prior claim with an air conditioning problem that took almost four months to resolve.
Three contractors have come out here to get it taken care of. And then, AHS kept sending me a bill, and calling, saying I haven't paid for the initial fee. So I told them that I've already talked to all three of those contractors and every one of them has been taken care of. AHS sent me the first guy out and he did $300 worth of work, which all AHS paid was $100. I had to pay the $100 plus an extra $266. I put that on my credit card 'cause I wasn’t expecting it. Then, I found out that it was against the law for my usual air conditioning man to do what they did. So I called AHS and told them about that.
They sent out a second contractor who put three pounds of Freon in the air conditioner and never checked for a leak. One can't put more than two pounds in without checking for a leak. So they sent a person out the second time who said that the coil was leaking in 20 places and that it needed to be replaced. I waited a week but didn’t hear anything back.
I called both the contractor and AHS. The contractor said, “We're not certified to work on that kind of a unit, so they're going to have to send you out someone else.” But nobody came, so I called AHS. They sent out another service person who walked through the door with his little meter and said I have Freon downstairs and that he already knew without going upstairs, where the unit was, but he went up anyway. He also said I needed a new coil and that my unit wasn't made anymore. Parts have to be manufactured for it. It took six to eight weeks. But in the meantime, Freon was coming out into my house in the middle of the summer.
And then, AHS started sending me something that I hadn't paid the original contractor and that I owed $100 to each of those two people they sent out. I said that they’ve sent out another technician because the first one didn’t do what he was supposed to do. So I called EPA and found out that there's a $47,500 fine per unit that is leaking. When I called AHS back, I let them know that I'm not paying that and that they need to be talking to their contractors. I also said that I was advised by EPA that when the coil is replaced, they must recover the Freon in there because I've already paid $366 for it. It’s my Freon and they can put it back in my unit. Plus, they don’t get to charge me for putting Freon back in after they redo the coil.
The day the guy came out to do it, he went upstairs with the recovering machine and when he came back downstairs, he said he had recovered my Freon and was going to check outside for leaks. Then I talked to AHS two weeks later and they told me I owe them $18 for the Freon but I said that EPA told me that if they try to hoodwink me, they'd go after them for the $47,500 fine for the Freon that was put in illegally in the beginning. All of a sudden, it got real quiet. I didn’t get any more threatening things. Then I get a bill that says I still owe that original contractor who came out in June. I called AHS again and they said they have spoken with the contractor twice telling them that I’ve already paid. They, too, didn’t know why the contractor was bothering me but AHS said they’ll take care of it. AHS has real billing problems.

The contractors they sent out were all very good, very polite and cleaned up after themselves. I’ve had good luck with them. Then sometimes if I call them for a service and I had to wait, their reps were very accommodating. But for my recent claim, I went to their website because I couldn’t get through to them in person. The claim was for my dryer that wouldn't heat and their website worked well. If you’re not really tech-savvy, it would take you a while to submit a claim, but for me it wasn’t complicated. They told me how much I had to spend and they gave me some information about what the options were. I made a decision, bought a new microwave, paid for it, sent the receipt in and got a check. I also had a problem with my washing machine that wasn't completely broken but was making a horrendous noise. The tech was able to fix it temporarily, but he said that it was just a matter of time. I also heard from him that unless it was absolutely broken, AHS wouldn't pay for it.

I had two issues, my faucet, as well as my toilet, were leaking. I filed a claim with AHS and the tech replaced the inside of my basement toilet. However, he couldn't deal with my leaking faucet as they don't replace those cylinders that needed to be replaced in the faucet. I thought I called for two things and both of them were plumbing issues. One wasn’t doable but the toilet is working fine now. I usually call my claims in and do a recording. I find that I need to speak to someone since when I'm recording, I don’t get to be as specific as when I'm talking to a person. The contractor they sent is very polite, thorough and knowledgeable. Plus, he explained things to us since we were asking questions. I've been with American Home Shield for years. I've had both good and not so good dealings. All in all, I'd recommend them. It’s a copay but it covers practically everything in the house.

My latest claim with American Home Shield was an issue with the noise in the pipe. The process was extremely easy. I just went online, looked for my contract and submitted a claim. I was contacted within half an hour and someone was out the same day. The website has been great for me and the turnaround was amazing. I've had three claims and they've been out very quickly. The contractor was great and was really helpful. At first, the noise in the pipes wasn't there. He did some digging, found the problem and took care of it. I'm a happy customer and it's been a great experience with AHS. I told my friends that they should definitely sign up and get a contract with AHS because they're reasonable and they're very prompt in delivering service, which is important to me.

My garbage disposal was not working. It would turn on but the blaze wouldn't go. I submitted a claim through the AHS automated system on the phone and it was rapid. The service took a little longer to get in but I understood because I was going through a third party to get it done. The contractor was very quick when fixing it though. He didn't sugarcoat anything. He just fixed it and since then, there have been no issues. Get American Home Shield so you have peace of mind rather than worry about having a repair happen at a certain time. Go with AHS and you know you're safe for the most part.

My collector tray had a crack in it and so it was leaking all over the floor and making gurgly sounds. I called American Home Shield, told them about the problem, and they sent out Golden Appliance. When Golden Appliance first checked out the collector tray, they didn't find a problem. But 15 minutes after they left, the refrigerator peed all over the floor again so they came back a few minutes later and fixed the problem. They didn't get it the first time and I don't blame them for it because it didn't act up when they were there. But they got it the second time and they were professional, very pleasant, and personable. They were also very prompt, patient, and definitely did a good job. I just paid them and I didn't fill out any paperwork, so it was good. They handled my issue very well.
However, I also got a misinformation when I called American Home Shield. When I told them that my refrigerator shelves were broken, they said they don't cover those. But when I booked somebody else, they said they would have covered such after I have already paid for it. So, I don't know what the truth is. Even so, they were still good.

A week before Christmas, my water heater began leaking. I called and was assigned to a local plumber that had a rating of 1 star. It took them 4 days to even come to the house to assess it. Then, on the day after Christmas, I received a voicemail from AHS giving a long laundry list of items they would not cover per the plumber's assessment. First was that they said they needed to replace a fan for $100. I don't have a fan that needs to be replaced, nor do I need one. Second was that they were going to charge me for the parts and labor to REPLACE the water heater!!! They said that it was a "modification", when it was a common activity to replace a water heater (meaning, you can't get around it to do the replacement. Point blank.) So, they were wanting to charge me an additional $350 for the replacement on top of my $125 deductible.
So, by the estimate, all they were paying for was the removal and the actual water heater. Not the actual installation. They kept saying it was in my contract. I kept telling them that this is not a modification, that a modification would be if the installation would require something different from what was there before. They would not budge. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and was told that was impossible. And this was after waiting over an hour to speak to someone in the first place. This company is a rip off. They assign you to contract companies with bad reputations, have terrible customer service, then give you excuses that make no sense to people who know better in order to rip them off. Stay away!

Been without heat for over 6 days. Heater went out right before Christmas Holiday Weekend. Filed an online service request. Contractor still has yet to make contact. Called AHS to ask what the status was of the request I submitted. I was told if I didn't hear from the contractor, call the contractor myself and request service. I called and they are not answering the phone nor returning phone calls.
AHS keeps having we wait for over an hour to talk to someone. I called a different contractor that usually handles my area and he said he could come out and fix the heater tomorrow. AHS won't pick up in order for me to request they assign the request to the contractor that can do the repair. I am so unhappy. I pay close to $80 a month and this is the service I get. There is nothing I can do. I don't have the money to pay out of my own pocket for a heater repair. I can't get ahold of anyone at AHS. I can't get ahold of the assigned contractor. My kids are left in a cold house relying on a portable floor heater and it is 30 degrees outside.

We were getting water in our basement and it was dripping through some ductwork insulation. We then filed a claim for it to AHS. A plumber came out and he was very thorough. He told us it was the ductwork and that he would send an HVAC guy out. However, when the ductwork guy came he told us that the ductwork was fine and that it's the plumbing. Another guy came out and he had to seal the ductwork to get the issue fixed. He also had to cut some insulation away. We only had to pay for the first time someone came out since the succeeding contractors were under the same work number. I expected that someone could’ve diagnosed the issue right away. Also, other than the first guy and the last one, every contractor was here for 10 minutes like they wanted to get out as soon as possible.

We’ve been with American Home Shield for about six years now and I like the coverage. However, a lot of the contractors that they work with aren't good quality companies. The first few years have been fantastic but we have been having more and more issues with them. Last year, we had a lot of frustrating experiences. It's about three different times that we've had really bad luck with our contractors.
We waited four months for our refrigerator to be fixed, which is unacceptable. The contractor told us that the part needed was backordered. We had our refrigerator for about 10 years. The icemaker went out twice and the first experience was the same, was the bad situation. And then, the second time, I purposely requested that I don't want that company. They sent us another one that was just as bad. And then, it went out the third time. We have been fighting back and forth; it works for us then it wouldn't work. We’re a family of five and, with no refrigerator, we’ve been living out of coolers and that was crazy. So I called and lost my marbles with a lady. I demanded that they send somebody else. They sent us Sears and within a week, it was fixed. So, AHS has the ability to do it. But the frustrating part is they're not always willing to go that extra mile to listen to the customer complaints about the contractors.
Another bad one was our garage door. Our garage door spring broke, so we couldn't get our garage door opened. And our vehicles were stuck inside. I called on a Wednesday and the contractor couldn't come out till a Friday. And when they came out that Friday, they said they didn't have the part. So, they would have to wait until Monday, which then turned into Tuesday, or Wednesday, or Thursday. It ended up being over 10 days that we had to rent a car, which was ridiculous. Had we not had our insurance, I would have called another contractor and gotten the job done. But we're paying all this money for this insurance. I would like to use it. But that has made it feel like this isn't worth it because when we need it, they aren't there supporting us. When I called them, they were like, "We can't do anything about it." And I'm like, "You can do something about it. You need to call another contractor. You need to figure something else.”
I get that some contractors are not good, but it's frustrating that AHS wouldn't stand behind them and send us a new contractor. AHS would say, "We've already sent out the work order," or "we've already placed the work order, so we can't change that." To me that's not acceptable. If contractors are not responding, then, AHS need to get them off of their list. And then, even when something happened, I would call in to complain. I tell the reps that though the situation is over and done with, I want their manager to know our experience. And they didn't really seem to respond well to that. Reps would say that they'll note my concerns but they don’t seem to really care about the bad experience that we did have.
What we’ve been through with the refrigerator and the garage door made us think twice about why we're renewing our contract with AHS. We have been looking at other companies though we haven't had time to research on them so we’re still with AHS. And because there are some good things, which has made us not want to give it up. I love the ease that I can call somebody. We recently had our pool pump went out. And they sent somebody. They were responsive, and were able to take care of it. We were given a whole new one that we needed. And that was all done within a week. We had a super awesome experience with that. With the bad comes the good, but the bad has been really bad that if friends asked me about AHS, I'd tell them to look around a little bit to see what else they could have.

We had a claim with American Home Shield for our washer and had the tech out here. He told us it would take more parts to fix it and more time and labor than it would to buy a new one. But we didn't want to get rid of the washer. We were advised to keep it because people said the older models actually have a lot of attributes that the newer ones don't have. But the tech told us that it was leaking oil and they would have to take the whole thing apart and rebuild it. And by the time they got done with the time, labor and everything else, the thing would run into the thousands of dollars. So, we went and got a new washer.
American Home Shield did a very good job handling that scenario. Submitting claims with them was a lot easier than some other places. Their reps on the phone have been good as well as the guys that they sent here. It took them about a week to resolve the problem and considering we were heading towards Christmas, it was quick. They installed the new washer we ordered and took the old one out. They came in 12:25 and were out of here about 1:10. They also did some extra work on the hoses in the back. They were so good I gave them a Christmas present. American Home Shield is a worthwhile company and we plan to stay with them.

American Home Shield has helped with both my washing machine and my garbage disposal. I called my claims in and talked to a machine. However, I'd prefer talking to a person more. The garbage disposal was an easy fix. There was just something in it which the tech took out and it has been running fine. The washing machine needed a new motor. The tech came out and installed the new motor, but they did not give him a part that went with it. So he had to leave, re-order the part, then come back out again to install it. I was without the washing machine for approximately two and a half weeks and while I wasn't happy with that, the repairman himself was very nice about it.
I also filed a claim for the garage door opener and the tech came out on the same day. He fixed one but couldn't fix the other, so he's supposed to be back out tomorrow. AHS needs to be on top of the repairs with their contractors. Plus, they really need to hire local people. The ones they are paying to do the repairs are usually out-of-town people, which makes it more inconvenient.

They had a problem with a part not on the truck but they were great. So our experience started out rough but we were able to get everything done. And it was a lot easier than what it could have been. There was a problem with our garbage disposal unit, so we went online and filled the American Home Shield forms out. Their reps are always very friendly and their contractors are always very helpful. Since the repair, the garbage disposal unit has been perfect. The only thing that was peculiar was when they came for the fix. Apparently, we had paid online somehow for the charge and we didn't realize that we were hooked up to do that. They never collected anything and we were never billed. Then, we just saw it come through our bank account.
But we usually have a pretty good experience with AHS. For a low monthly fee, whatever goes wrong in your house, I just pay a minimal coverage and 80% of the repairs are typically covered. For instance, if I had a furnace, there are very specific things with the furnace that I would be responsible in paying for but most of everything else is covered under the insurance policy. One particular time in the years that we’ve been with American Home Shield, they offered a higher payment for including the maintenance things and we missed out on that because we couldn't afford it. It would be nice to have the opportunity to enroll in that again but everything is great with AHS.

I filed claims with American Home Shield for two issues that were just a couple of days apart. One was for an air conditioning check and the other was for a plumbing issue. Both contractors who came were very professional, did their job and got it done in no time. The one trouble that I am having, though, is that AHS changed their policy recently. Instead of us paying the copay, they were billing us. One of the plumbers took a copay check from me but American Home Shield said that I hadn't paid that. They've found where I have paid but what they had done was apply that first payment that I made by credit card to the plumber instead of to the air conditioning people. So, it's still showing that the air conditioning bill is still outstanding. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with AHS and they assured me that everything was corrected but I got another bill, so they still have not. They are billing me for $75 when I have already paid both.

Every project that I've had done with American Home Shield had been absolutely phenomenal. The local people they have are terrific. AHS says that the contractors will call me within three days but they call me up within 24 hours and we usually get them out within two days. If they don't have the parts they need, they'll go down to the store. If they need something back at the shop, they'll be back the next day. I also know that AHS is going to send the best quality of folks out if we had any problems. That's one of the reasons why I opted to sign up again for another year.
We had a heat pump that wasn't heating up and we thought the thermostat was dead. It turned out that was the heat pump that was dead. The wrong heat pump was sent and three days later, they came back with the right one. The folks were fantastic at putting the stuff in. Woods Plumbing, the plumber, went above and beyond as value added for all of the people that AHS sent out. Also, we have 48 outlets in the house and an electrician checked every outlet and the lights switches. He gave our house a thorough shakedown which was much more than I would've expected. We also had a combination microwave and oven, and the handle came off and it was so old. The technician couldn't find a new one so they replaced the oven. They made it so easy and once we got hooked up with the appliance people, they kept calling me back. When we got that oven, the electrician from The Service Company came over and got the work done.
On the other hand, the thing that turned me off many times is that nobody answers the phone. 45-minute of waiting time on the phone is totally unacceptable in business. Their phone service sucks really bad. We pay $75 up front and I pay it by credit card over the phone. And then, I get a notice on an email I can't reply to that I owe $75. I'm not going to waste 45 minutes calling them about that. They should be the one to call me and explain why the $75 wasn't worth it. If they need more people, they should get more people. In addition, I hate the website. It is not user-friendly. So, if I could work online, I would. When anyone signs up to the program, somebody needs to call and walk them through how to deal with the website, especially older folks. Other than those, the product is fantastic.

American Home Shield came with the house so we didn't and wouldn't pay for it ourselves just because we have a savings account that we save for our own home repairs. But we've been very happy with it and it's nice to know that I can call, go online or go to a place and they'd know all of the people to call for whatever's wrong and send out that person within a very short time. We have AHS on both our house and our rental property. We’ve been with them for several years and our experience has been great overall. The latest claim we did with them was for the refrigerator in our rental property. I put the claim in on the phone and surprisingly, that was well done, fast and easy. The computer took care of everything. Once I put my account number in, it asked what I wanted to repair which I answered with the name of the appliance and the model of it. Before I knew it, I got the email confirmation and the contractor, the Avengers, were calling in for a time. After, we met them at the property and paid upfront. Then they diagnosed the problem and fixed it.
I also had a previous experience for the dishwasher and clothes washer in our home. I processed the claim and the nice thing about the plan was that if I had one or two things that needed to be fixed, I could have them repaired for one dollar amount. The vendor that AHS sent out was pretty quick and diagnosed the problems. They had to take the washer back to the shop for a few days and ordered the part for the dishwasher. So everything seemed to be heading in the right direction. But the vendor ended up keeping the clothes washer for a week. They said they were going to do one thing on it but they didn’t do it. They were also supposed to follow up with me but they didn’t.
Then the part came in for the dishwasher. The vendor called about that and came out but they couldn’t get my dishwasher out of the cabinet. They said it was stuck in the cabinet and they couldn’t go any further. There were four screws on the dishwasher that were level and it had been in there for a long time. So I called my handyman to come out. He unscrewed everything and pulled the dishwasher out. I also ended up just having him fix it and not the contractor.
Three weeks later, the vendor still had my clothes washer and wouldn’t return phone calls. It was a nightmare. They finally brought my machine back after I escalated. It’s a nine-year old GE but it was very expensive to replace. They ended up taking off the top part where I could select all changes in the settings, and taping it back on. The tape eventually fell off, then the whole thing fell off. So, the nightmare continued. I called the vendor and they came out, ordered a part and put the top back, but they still were not able to connect it. They ended up taping it again and two months later, the tape still came off of the thing. The washer works now but it’s a $1,000 machine and sometimes I have to push the top part to get it to work.
I gave up on the contractor and I escalated the matter with American Home Shield several times. But they said they could do nothing unless I put in another claim which would cost me another $100. Finally, they said it was my fault that I waited two months before telling them about it and tough luck chuck. They didn’t want to take any action and I could have sued but I didn’t have the time or the resources. I filed a complaint against the contractor as I didn’t want them touching $1,000 machines and somehow AHS put it in their system never to send them out again to me. But that didn’t get my machine fixed. So now, I’m going to wait for my clothes washer to not work one day then I’ll call in again.

And it was causing that circuit breaker to withdraw. And I got it fixed and it's working perfectly, so I cancelled the order and gave them the $5 back. After waiting an 1.5hr 20 to get a rep on the phone... The worst customer service ever!!! Every time I have ever had to call AHS the wait time is ridiculous unless I call in the early hours of the am (4am-6am). Had set up a service call with AHS for my elderly grandparents November 29, they sent a company HVAC company called Best Way Mechanical due to the heat pump unit not heating. When best way mechanical heating and air came out they came back with a diagnosis of the reversal valve malfunctioning which also controls the flow of the refrigerant. If they replace the reversal valve and a switch I would have to pay the cost of the refrigerant at 90.00 per lb up to 7lbs to be replaced which I just had replaced in the unit back in October 2017. My grandparents cannot afford to pay another 700.00 and the other companies that I had out never said it was the reversal valve.
I called AHS back and ask for a 2nd opinion. They sent out Baileys (still no heat during this entire time). Mind you my grandparents are 79 and 74 both of whom are ill. They send Baileys out December 12, 2017 at that time the technician state it is NOT the reversal valve but he recommended that I change filter. He also got the heater back working again. So 4 days later the heat pump goes back out, so now it's back to blowing cool air again. I called AHS who at that time a supervisor by the name of Marcus ** called back and said they had to go with the first company diagnose and they offered me a Cash Lieu (meaning I would have to get it done myself and submit all the paperwork and they would reimburse me) still NO heat. While Baileys was out there they offered me a maintenance program where they would come 2x a year to service the unit, I signed up for this program.
The first visit was December 22, they sent the same tech out. When he arrived we told him the heat had gone back out last Sunday, Dec 17, so at that time he put his amplifier meter and checked the unit computer module and stated it's NOT the reversal valve that's bad it's the unit computer module. So to keep my grandparents from being without heat on the coldest weekend of the year I had the computer module replaced, faxed them the itemized form from Baileys stating what was wrong with the unit and the receipt. They denied the payout. I reached out to them yesterday, the first rep with AHS, Megan who has to be the rudest customer service rep ever been hired told me the Supervisor was on another call and I had to call customer service to dispute the issue.
I then hung up and called my attorney who got Ms ** who was the other rudest rep stated they had no one in the building with any authority that I would have to call customer service. Needless to say I did not get anything accomplished with AHS yesterday and I am out over 500.00 so I could get my grandparents some heat. I happened to be a realtor in my local area. This will not be a company I will be suggesting for my clients to use.

We submitted a service order with AHS on November 27th. A service technician came and advised that the computer panel on the dishwasher was inoperable. Then there was no contact whatsoever. December 12th arrived with an email indicating that AHS were going to replace the Dishwasher and to send a copy of "that" email back to appliancesupport@ahslink.com, indicating what we would like to do. This was done on the same day. Then there was no contact whatsoever. Tried phoning AHS to get an update three times. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than talking to someone who actually cares, is prepared to help, or finally knows what they are talking about.
First time waited 2 hours and 32 minutes before finally being disconnected. 2nd Time waited 93 minutes before being answered by one of the above descriptees and transferred to another number 1800 326 6710 using option 3. Gave up after waiting another 88 minutes. 3rd time waited over 92 minutes and the call disconnected. This was before the 25th December. Tried calling again today, actually got through after waiting only 23 minutes to be transferred to the above 1800 number which I am still waiting on. So after all this we are still in the dark as to when and where a replacement is coming from. And we are stupid enough to have two accounts with them. So we have been without a dishwasher for now over a month. This is a company with absolutely no knowledge of what customer service is all about.

I am new to Home Shield. We just bought a home and the upstairs shower leaked and ruined drywall also. Home Shield has been awful. The first guy they sent wanted to replace 20 feet of pipe which is not covered per AHS. I asked for a second opinion. He wanted to rip up the floor and replace the shower. Home Shield told me I would have to provide access. I guess the bathroom access isnt good enough. I was told I would need scaffolding. I called handyman plus and they sent a real pro who did a solid fix. I submitted the bill. AHS is paying 25 percent. Wow talk about a rip off. I regret buying this insurance as AHS is not a real company. They are scammers and will fix nothing in your home. I'd like my money back for this scam of a plan. DON'T BUY THIS INSURANCE.

I was covered by This Company for one and half years. I called in for a repair of my dishwasher twice, because the two calls were just over a month apart, I had to pay the deductible again. Mind you, it was the same problem that was not fixed correctly. Also, my shower head stopped working, it got replaced with a very cheap plastic piece. My original was stainless steel. They were supposed to replace with a like item. What made me cancel is one morning we woke up to a broken/rupture in a water line just underneath the bathroom sink. After the plumber came to my door, insisted on getting his deductible before even coming in. After that, he said that this is not covered. Those idiots knew exactly why I called, they could’ve just told me this is not covered, but no, they still wanted to get the deductible - for doing nothing. Go to any other company just not this one.

We had a stove replaced by American Home Shield and after that I had a problem with the air conditioner and heater. I submitted the claim for that online and the contractor that they sent was very friendly and informative. He reset the breakers for us and since then, we got heat. I'm very happy with AHS. I've had this company for almost 20 years now and I like them very much. I still pay the premiums because they're worth having.

We've been with American Home Shield for a few years. We've always had good relationships with them and the best way to submit a claim to them is over the phone. That way, it’s more personal and we can be sure that there's no trouble with the computer. One time, they had to replace our stove and when our refrigerator went crazy on us a couple of weeks ago, my wife called them and they replaced it with a smaller one. We’re missing a room but we could get over that. Also, our usual fee with them is $10,000 but the transactions to replace the stove and the refrigerator was all complimentary.
They also came out to fix our dishwasher the first time, but it continued to leak so they came back and did something else. However, I heard a little click and saw a few pieces of black plastic when I opened the dishwasher the next day. We called them and they said they would give a callback, but it’s been a week and we hadn’t heard from them. On the other hand, they knew what they were doing and finally fixed the dishwasher as far as the leak goes. The contractors were also nice, polite and friendly. The reps were good as well when I speak to them and just said what was wrong, see what they could do and go from there. I like that they check back with you too to see how things went or how they were going. I recommended Home Shield to other people when they talked about their problem and told them Home Shield always did us right.

And luckily, I told the AHS rep exactly what was going on with the microwave before the contractor came out so they had the part on their truck. Since the repair, the microwave has been working perfectly.

And the company has been out four or five times and they told me that they had submitted a repair or replacement card to American Home Shield but American Home Shield has not called me about it. They said they would be able to contact me within 24 to 48 hours but it's been almost a week now. I have not heard of anything and I'm still without an ice maker. I’ve contacted them over the phone and online, yet no one said anything to me about what's the next step. “Are they going to replace my refrigerator? I have been with American Home Shield for two years and I have had a little bit of plumbing issue. The first time the plumbers came out, it took them almost two months to fix a faucet. They got the wrong part, and then got the wrong part again, and then they switched around. It's ridiculous. They seemed nice though, but if I had called the regular plumber to fix that, I don’t think it would have cost me $125. I had two faucets that wouldn’t turn and all he did was took it apart, clean it up, put it back together and that was it.
And the other time, I had a ball of soup blow up in the microwave and it's a microwave-convection oven combination so it has an element on top. And the directions in the instructions in the pamphlet that came with it, told us to do something and consequently, the instructions were incorrect and we broke it apart. They claimed we broke it and they won't cover it. We followed the directions exactly to what it said. It said turn and drop the little piece down to drop the element so you could clean the top and then pop it back in. Evidently, it was a permanent part and it broke when we tried to turn it. Because of this, I'm beginning to figure out that most of the people that you deal with come out and they know exactly what to say but they don't get it fixed and they get the $125 for nothing.
Then recently, when we turned the heater on for the first time, the fan wouldn’t turn off. And so I called to have somebody come out and check it. And the guy that came out said something about a power surge. I notice that the panel had been scorched a little bit, but that’s been scorched for years. But when the technician called American Home Shield, he claimed that the reason for his estimate and his idea for replacement had to do with the power surge, which I disagreed with and that was not what he actually told me. The claims person called me and said that they didn't cover power surges. This is the second time this has happened and if AHS is not going to cover anything why bother.
Consequently, we had somebody else check it and it was fine. It was just the switch. I have recommended American Home Shield to just about all my friends but whether they’ve acquired American Home Shield, I don’t know. I haven’t talked about it for a long time as ever since the microwave thing I wasn’t recommending them.

I had called American Home Shield about my dryer issue. A technician came out and he just opened it, said that we had to get the vents cleaned, closed it back up and left. So, I got a vent cleaning company to come out and got the issue resolved. It took about a whole week to try to get an answer or even the technicians to come out to do the reassessment on the dryer because the issue was still there where it wasn’t heating properly due to the technician cancelling my request without even calling to check whether I had gotten the vents cleaned. It took two days of back and forth or even more than that just trying to get the local company to even talk to me. By the time we finally got serviced out, it was a whole week later when they could have just picked up the phone and called me to ask if I already got the vents cleaned.
I have a family of six and two weeks of not having a dryer is a big deal. I had to spend $144 to bring my clothes to Fluff N Clean because the tech said to not use the dryer because it might burn my house. Also, when I call AHS, it takes two hours on hold and I had to call three separate times. I’ve had AHS for years on a separate property when I lived in Vegas and I never had issues with getting technicians out or getting anything resolved. Here in California, it’s just been a different story. It has been a 1 year since I’ve been out here and it’s been really frustrating to try to get assistance using their 800 number.
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced recently to have your vents cleaned. Also, I understand that the hold times are an inconvenience. I would be glad to speak with you and resolve the situation.

I recently had a claim for a seal on a washing machine. And while American Home Shield's online system was great, the technician who came out was awful. He basically accused us of trying to commit insurance fraud on a home appliance. He said that we had ripped off the seal and that was why it was broken. And then, American Home Shield denied the claim. I called back to get a different person, but basically, they just stood with the contractor. So I told them that we couldn't go another four or five days without having a washer functioning because once they'd come out, they were still not going to repair it if they didn't have the part. I decided to call somebody else. So I called my own contractor and had him come out. He thought the claim was a rip off and felt that this was normal wear and tear. It was absurd. An additional $250 after, I had the washing machine fixed within 24 hours.

American Home Shield stands by the terms of their contract. However, one needs an abundance of patience in order to get serviced. I had an issue with my washing machine and I had to wait for over an hour to get someone on the phone. Plus, we had to call twice and it was an hour's wait each time. However, if we didn't hold we would still not have a resolution. They ended up replacing the washing machine since it could not be repaired. I spent an hour waiting on the phone when I called American Home Shield to submit a claim for my water heater that had a malfunctioned part. It was an awful experience but once I was able to talk to someone, they treated me well. Their contractors were very helpful and all but one have been exceptionally professional and were able to fix the problem. That one contractor came to fix the hot water heater when it went out. They had to bring another water heater since the old one had leaked all over. They had to make two trips like they always do. When the hot water heater was to be installed they said that it was going to cost me $600. I realize any extra expense is on me but there should have been no extra expense. They went up two flights of stairs not into one of those crawl things.
A couple of years ago, a different company came and installed a water heater and it went beautifully. They just installed it, put in new flex line and put a pan under it. That's all they did. However, this contractor wanted to charge me $600 to do it. I was desperate and said, "Come on!" When the guy came in the house, he asked, "How about $300?" I knew I was getting taken and I expressed that to American Home Shield, but they wouldn't stand behind me at all.
AHS told me that the plumber said that it was an inconvenient place. It was hard to get to and they had to do all kinds of retrofitting, which is wrong. I'm not stupid. When the part went out here a couple of weeks ago, they tried to send that same company to me. I called AHS and I said, "I never want to see that company again." Even though I'm not in a remote location, they have trouble getting contractors here, which makes me wait longer. I'm at a town between Waco and Bryan College Station. Everything else has been very positive and I recommend American Home Shield.

It was easy to submit the claim for my dishwasher with American Home Shield. I did it online first, but then I had to do it over the phone because the people never showed up and they never even responded. It was fine and once I notified American Home Shield what was going on, instead of calling certain subcontractors that deal with the equipment, they got with the company itself. The contractor was good. The dishwasher acted up and it's going on almost four and a half years. It had built up some nasty fungus inside from not drying properly.
So, we’re trying to get that cleaned out now but still not able to use it. It got taken care of last week and I have been dealing with the contractor for about three weeks now. It's something that they don't have anybody to clean it. And instead of putting it in to be replaced, they figured it's fixed and now it's up to me to get that cleaned off. I'd recommend American Home Shield. I'd tell others it's good coverage as far as for their appliances. It's like having insurance and sometimes it's better than your own home insurance.

And this repairman, too, could not do it. It just wasn’t repairable. We’ve gotten two brand new units and neither one of them worked.
It was decided that it was the refrigerator itself that wasn’t getting cold enough in order to make the ice maker work. However, we use the refrigerator and it seems to keep our food cool. It would freeze ice in an ice tray but the ice maker itself would not work. On the other hand, AHS has been top notch and we would give them the best of recommendations. Tuesday the plumber arrives and we need to replace the hot water heater which was done by AHS 7 years ago with what turns out to be a cheap rock bottom POS. But even with an AHS warranty I will have to pay almost half the cost. When asked why I had to cover so much out of pocket the phone rep, Sam, just kept reading the same script.
I asked to talk to a supervisor but Sam didn't make any effort or show any urgency. He simply tells me that they will call me in 24-48 hours. The water heater stopped working. My son was staying here overnight and discovered it in the morning when they didn’t have any hot water and there was water everywhere. Judging from the mold and the rot of the floor of the closet where the water heater was, it must have been dripping for a while. We took pictures of everything, not only for American Home Shield but for the other insurance company because we figured that the insurance adjuster who came out said that it looked as though the water was leaking over a long period of time. The water heater had gone under the tile and made the tile on the floor rise up and it rotted out some stuff behind the washer and dryer too.
I sent in what American Home Shield asked for and I haven’t heard back from them yet. They told me that I didn’t have to use the company that they sent out. I used Will Fix It and they agreed that that was okay, and that I would just submit all the paperwork to them and that they would reimburse for the water heater that was being put in. It took almost 10 days to get the water heater in. But that’s no fault of American Home Shield. They sent someone out immediately. The reason we chose the other company instead of immediate response is that the plumber from Will Fix It said that he could fix the floor and the close that was watered out. He could take that out and replace it. The other company said I’d have to hire an independent carpenter to do that. I didn’t like that at all because I didn’t have any idea how to find a carpenter who would come and do such a little bitty job.
The Will Fix It man who was going to do the carpentry work got sick. He was the only one who would volunteer to do the carpentry work and so we had to start to wait for that and we had to wait for the insurance adjuster from the Homeowner’s Insurance to come and look at the damage because American Home Shield doesn’t do secondary damage.
One of the other problems that I’ve had was a leaking washing machine. The plumber who came out to fix the water heater and the insurance adjuster were having a hard time figuring out whether the damage was being caused by the washing machine, or whether it was being caused by the hot water heater. I thought that it had to do with the hot water because it was sort of intermittent. Unfortunately, after the water heater got put in, I discovered it’s the washing machine and American Home Shield had sent someone out twice to work on it. Twice they’ve said they can’t find anything wrong with it. But still, there’s water all over the floor whenever I wash. The last repairman who came out, who also fixed my stove, did a fine job on that.
But on the water heater, he said, “Ma’am, I can’t find anything wrong with it. Just be thankful. Some people have water that goes all the way out into their living room. This is just a little bit of water.” I don’t want even a little bit of water all over my laundry room floor. That didn’t get fixed. I didn’t call Home Shield back to tell them. Not the first time, nor the second time that it hadn’t been fixed. It’s too hard to get them on the phone. Sometimes you get them right away, but sometimes you have to wait 45 minutes before someone comes.
The same thing happened with the air conditioner. Bottom line is, they fixed it but it was a lot of hassle getting it fixed, with a lot of people coming out, a lot of different times and hurry up and wait stuff. It was easier to wait for the cold water to be hot than it was to wait for the air conditioning to cool down the house because we had to wait over a week for that too in the Summer. I’ve entertained thoughts of looking for another company.

American Home Shield was passed on us when I bought our first house. That’s how I became aware of it and as that house aged, I purchased it again when it turned into a rental property and I’ve used it ever since for almost 10 years. I have a couple rental properties and I recently let go of my subscription ownership for those properties because there were some challenges in getting good vendors and getting there on time. The turnaround time wasn’t working out well on the other locations so I let that expire but I will keep AHS in my personal house. However, it hadn’t gone well in the last two to three months. One time, the work on the property in Houston was not properly done and I had them come back out and redo it. They did not get it done in a timely fashion and were not able to accurately describe what the problem was what was needed.
I had spoken with two vendors directly and my property manager had spoken to vendors directly and a representative from American Home Shield. They mentioned that there was nothing that they could do about it and that it was the vendor. Then we switched vendors and had a similar problem. I had issues over the years in my personal home so I wanted to make sure they take care of that, and I’m a bit more patient. There had been times where I requested and they would have a certain benefit before. There were some issues with the dishwasher and I didn’t complain about it but that took three trips over a three to four-week period because of the wrong part ordered, mistaken diagnosis and then not following up. It’s probably an overwhelmed vendor and not American Home Shield itself but I let that one go.
I would recommend American Home Shield to those who I know could benefit from this kind of service with the caveat which you might get sometimes with vendors. I didn’t know a lot of this can be improved and the follow-up could be better. There are other companies where you book a vendor through them, not like American Home Shield style where they’ve already done the research for licensed and bonded vendors, and you work at your own deal with the vendor. The others follow-up and see how the service was, and sometimes the standard surveys with the actual phone call or email. I haven’t seen that from American Home Shield. They could do better with their personal touch. There’s competition now so they got to step up. Sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re bad. They could do a better job of following-up and bidding.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for my garbage disposal. The contractor called relatively quickly to schedule the appointment. Then the plumber came and showed up early. He fixed everything and provided a brand-new unit. In addition, he re-did some of my plumbing underneath because there was an excessive number of pipes, so he cut things down to get me more storage space. I love the place. He also cleaned up really well and he was in and out within an hour. He did a phenomenal job and the garbage disposal is better now.

I like calling American Home Shield to make sure I’m not charged a fee. Because I had an experience one time when I did it online and I was trying to get my microwave fixed. And I was charged, even though the guy who came out said they don't cover it because it wasn’t a microwave over the range. Luckily, I called back, and they only charged me half of it and they absorbed the other half. So, that’s why now, I just call so I can avoid any confusion.
Recently, I filed a claim and it has something to do with the heater. So Anderson Heating came out, did their inspection and they noticed a couple of things wrong with the system. And they were able to fix one of the problems. The contractor said that unless it’s not working, they can’t replace the part. The other part, he was able to replace. So I hope and pray to God that I don’t go without heat because I feel that being proactive is better. Additionally, I've had good experiences with the contractors American Home Shield has sent. They have been very nice and helpful.

Recently, there was a problem with our guest shower where the water didn’t turn on. I tried to fill out a form on the AHS site but that didn't really capture how the water wouldn't turn on by the categories. I then called and waited for an hour and a half until I finally got through. I described the problem and they put a ticket in for me. It took about three days that they were able to send a technician out. It was around Thanksgiving. The technician figured out what the problem was which was a broken valve stem plastic piece. I was able to order through Kohler then I replaced the valve myself because it was pretty easy. But it took two weeks for the manufacturer to send me the piece.
The previous issue I had was with our refrigerator and it took three different technicians to finally figure out the problem and order the right part to fix it. The first guy said there was no problem with the refrigerator even though it was clearly not making any cold air and everything was spoiling. The second guy said that it was a problem with the sensor. It worked for 24 hours then stopped working. Then this new guy came out and he figured out it was the motherboard, there's a computer in the back of these modern refrigerators. It was the most expensive part to replace next to the whole refrigerator itself and the compressor. It was six weeks until it came so we ate out every day until we finally gave in and bought a little mini fridge to store a couple of things. We have kids who like chicken nuggets and yogurt and sometimes just want snacks.
I was getting really frustrated because it was getting to a point where I just wanted my refrigerator to work and AHS needed to replace it. I was going a month with it not working. I got a little more attention once I raised a stink about it. But it was important that I had to get to that point. The refrigerator worked great once the right person came and I only paid the one-time fee of $75 but it took months for our refrigerator to finally get repaired which was really annoying.
Since then, the other issues I've had have been adequate. They resolved the problem in the end and gave me satisfaction. It just took a lot longer than I would have hoped and a lot more work on my end than I would have thought was required. I didn't want to renew with AHS but my wife really wanted the warranty for the protection. They're not an all-star outfit but they do a fine job.

I submitted a claim for my washing machine online and although I didn't have access to do it at work, it was easy to do. I had tried to do it over the phone but I waited for a long time. Then the contractor called me before coming. That way, I didn't have to leave work early which worked out really good. He was very courteous but he did not install the washing machine because he could not do the water hoses off so my husband did the installation.

I have carried the American Home Shield policy since I bought this house two years ago and I’m selling it now. The buyer wanted me to have the HVAC systems cleaned, serviced and checked. So I called American Home Shield since they’re my people and, in summary, the lady that finally helped me straighten it all out was awesome but I will never pay for another American Home Shield policy ever. One of the things about American Home Shield that I do not like is that I had to go through an automated system, which forced me into a choice system that erroneously recorded my claim as air conditioning.
I had two issues that I wanted handled. They assigned me a couple of different contractors and I called the contractors directly to make the appointments and it’s been the biggest hassle and the hardest situation to try to resolve. That one contractor for the plumbing kept giving me windows. I ultimately waited two full days before someone came out and when the guy got out here, he was just a jerk. I started telling him what the issue was and he said that there is nothing I can do about it and that it’s just the way the house was built. Finally, he said that there was something that could be done about it. Once they had my business directly, they got somebody scheduled the next business day. That guy came out and did a really good job but I have to make six calls to get the work order and the proof that I had the work done. I was so pissed at that particular company.
This is the person that AHS told me I should work with and in the meantime, I’m out a thousand dollars and AHS doesn’t cover any of it because the deal is it has to fully break before they will cover it. Also, I’ve always given the contractors a check for the service fee and I shouldn’t have done that because, on the HVAC, the contractor took a check and it was cashed but they are telling American Home Shield they never got the money. The AHS rep, Holly, was helpful and she asked me to send them a copy of that check and she stood on the plumber and I finally got the proof of the work that I actually paid for. But the whole experience really soured me because, other than a discounted service call, it was no help whatsoever.

I made a claim to American Home Shield for a dishwasher repair. We had water running to the basement. The issue was a result of a previous vendor that they sent out to clear vent blockage that we had. I spoke with two individuals, and the first one didn’t have a clue what was going on, wasn't paying attention, wasn't listening and promised that she would have a supervisor call me. Nine days later, I didn't hear from them and when I called back, they said no request had ever been placed. I was on hold for 30 minutes to get a hold of someone and it was 55 minutes today. Also, their automated system when submitting a claim is very quick but they automatically charge $75. There are no options to speak to a human being. We just say a repair is needed and someone is dispatched quickly.
So far, we have been fairly lucky with the contractors being sent by AHS. But the company that ended up causing the dishwasher problem was difficult to get a hold of. I'm waiting on a call right from the gentleman who did the work. I’m still waiting for it to be fixed and I’m extremely frustrated. American Home Shield appears to be helpful but things are not getting done. We also don't have any choice on who they send out. At this point, I wouldn't recommend them.

I called American Home Shield and said that I had no heat and the furnace wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t stay lit. If I lit it, it would go right back out. It was really cold at that time and there weren’t a lot of available heating and cooling companies. Everybody was telling American Home Shield that they couldn’t come up until Monday or Tuesday and it was crazy. But American Home Shield said that they would expedite my claim and I was happy that they did that once it passed the 48 hours. They told me to call whoever I want to and they’d pay for the service.
So I called the heating company and they said they could come out between 1:00 and 5:00. While I was waiting for them, they called me at 3:00 o’clock to say that they found out that the work would be through American Home Shield and that they couldn’t do it that day. They said that they didn’t take emergency calls so they would be out on Tuesday. I told them that they already scheduled me, we were two hours into the service call, and they were the one who made the appointment. So clearly they had a technician available and they wouldn’t come out only because I had American Home Shield.
My son was sick at the time and I was staying with someone because the furnace had been out for a few days. I already brought my sick child home and we were sitting there waiting for the tech. I went ballistic and ended up calling American Home Shield. I told them that the company they were doing business with refused to service a customer based on having a warranty with them. American Home Shield said that sounded ridiculous and they were upset, too. I even talked to the heating company’s supervisor and they kept refusing me.
An hour later, after we talked to the corporate American Home Shield, the contractor called me back and said they were coming out. When the guy came, it took him 10 minutes to fix the problem. He told me that the carbon monoxide detector was tripping and I don’t know what he did to fix it but it was very quick. Then he tried to get me to pay them directly and not pay the $75. But I told the guy that I wanted to go through my claim with American Home Shield because if something happened, I didn't have to pay the money again since it was under warranty.
The heating company was trying to circumvent any paperwork through American Home Shield on this issue and I was very disappointed. We spent more time on trying to get the approval line on the phone than on what the tech did to repair the furnace. If they had come and done that, they could have gotten their money and moved on but it sounded like they wanted to price out the customer. They were probably on a fixed price and weren’t going to come out on an emergency call for that.
Despite my complaint on the heating company, I would recommend American Home Shield. They handled my claim appropriately and I was happy with their response. However, they should improve the initial service time and stay on top of that for the customer. They should make it where their process was streamlined and they knew the availability of the companies during a power outage or heating issues. They should also have some sort of real-time communication with their contractors instead of having to go through a list and call 30 companies. That way it cuts down on that delay time.

We have two toilets, one in the main bathroom and the other in the guest bathroom, and there was water leaking someplace. Even though the water valve had been shut off, we were still getting water that was running and I couldn't detect it just by looking at it. I could hear the water in the pipes though. When the plumber sent out by American Home Shield came out, he was able the see this trouble right away. The flapper was so old, it had warped and was no longer sealing properly. So every so often, it would release a tankful of water. He got it done in 15 minutes.
The plumber was early for the service call and he was pleasant while he was here. As far as the office goes, American Home Shield leaves a voicemail when they call, and when we called them, they called right back. Since the repair, we're no longer hearing water running through the pipes, unless somebody's actually using water. That means when the new bill comes in, it will be less than what the old bill was. Our normal bill is $14 to $16. The bill that I had paid prior to the plumber coming in was $32.
Nine months went by this year without having any claims, so there's always that discussion about why we are paying AHS if we're not getting any benefit. But, while the plumber was here filling out the paperwork, I asked him how much it would have cost us to have him walk in the house without our insurance. He said $195. Therefore, paying every month even though we don't use it is still a really good bargain. There's also something about being able to pick up the phone and call American Home Shield anytime of the day or night, and knowing that even if it is the weekend, we'll still get a call back from the local vendor within 48 hours. We don't even get stuck with high weekend/holiday overcharge, so it's great. It's really nice and I have recommended it to some of our friends.

We had a bad motor in the ice maker and American Home Shield sent someone out to replace it. The contractor found out that the motor was stuck to the shaft so they couldn't remove it. And right now, it has been about five months. It was a lot of back and forth and I had to initiate any kind of action because otherwise, things will just get sat. Now we're waiting to hear of a disposition because they may have to replace the entire door of the refrigerator to fix the problem, which is just a bad motor. I've been pretty disappointed in the way they are handling this. I was ready to dump the service and just ease the cost of the refrigerator myself. But I finally talked to a supervisor today who is supposed to be looking into it. If he does a good job, then I'll keep the service. Otherwise, I'm on the verge of canceling American Home Shield completely.
Also, it would take an hour and a half to call them and get hold of anybody, and it was just a pain. But once you reach somebody, they're very friendly and nice enough. It's just that they're not experts and they're relying on notes which may or may not be incorrect, and it's the same thing every time you talk to them. We would be relying on the repair company to give them good data and the repair company would tell us one thing and we would hear a different story from AHS as to what the repair company told them. So, it was hard to know who to believe. And telling a person your story doesn't necessarily get you anywhere because they're relying on the notes, so you talk to a supervisor, which took us a long time to get to that point as well. American Home Shield seems to deal and in contract with the lowest cost service providers out there that may or may not be the best ones to fix something. I understand why they do it but that's disappointing.

However, I'm not too happy about American Home Shield because, for the last five years, I've been trying to get them change a whole bunch of parts. That furnace has been there for 25 years and it was supposed to be changed six years ago, but they never did. The contractors must have come out about six times but they did not take care of it, and neither did American Home Shield. I have told the technician to make sure the water is drained when he leaves, but that was never drained. My furnace is still leaking and my floor in the basement has been ruined because of that. It’s all rusty because the furnace itself is holding so much water in there. I'm going to take pictures and send them to American Home Shield because they’re not doing anything about it.
Also, I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator years ago because it was leaking water. They told me I needed an appliance person and I had one that I paid $65. The appliance person came in and he said I needed a plumber, so I called a plumber through American Home Shield. I paid another $65 and my ice maker was still not fixed because one was blaming the other and nobody was fixing it. They came three times for the refrigerator and I paid $65 three times, yet my floor and kitchen were getting ruined because I got ice in my freezer. I had a towel there for three to four years and I could not afford to call American Home Shield every time. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield was poor.

The problem started with my heat not working properly the week before Thanksgiving. When I called American Home Shield to set up an appointment, it started working again. It was on and off. So I waited another week and I called back because it still did the same thing. And then, I had one of the people to come out and try to service it. They told me last time that the service provider cannot fit and that the chimney was blocked, which I didn’t think it was. But they said I needed to go and get the chimney unblocked so I had the service people come for the chimney, and paid that out of pocket for $1,800. They said, “Well, it’s not that blocked but you can go ahead and get the chimney walls and inner lining.” But then after that, I had them to come back because the heat was still not working properly.
And when they came back, they brought in a new service provider, and that provider said that the other guy that was here didn’t even look and check the electric box that was inside the heater. He said it was not working properly. And he fixed it within five minutes. So I paid out of pocket for $1,800 which wasn’t necessary because the first guy didn’t take the time to fix it. I didn’t even know that they didn’t do the work until I spoke to the second guy that came in to repair it.
American Home Shield should be able to have quicker access when you call them. Whenever I call them, I can’t get through as quickly as we had a couple of years ago. It’s good being able to set it up automatedly but I didn’t even speak to the service provider. We did everything by text so I didn’t articulate and converse with anyone pretty much, so there was no one-on-one to assess what was going on. Also, they gave me a timeframe between 12 and 4 pm. I can’t even get a 2-hour time window. It’s worse than Comcast. But American Home Shield is good if you have an older home and you may have potential repairs. It’s definitely worth it and I'd recommend them.

Even if you call them, and it's too busy and the wait is 10 minutes, they tell you to press a button and they would call you right back. I paid a big money, at least $2,500 for the replacement of the whole air conditioning system. The explanation was not satisfactory and I don’t understand it. He installed the system someday in the middle of August, while the replacement happened someday early December.
In some cases, however, they say they replace the whole system just for $400. For small things, I know that when they come, I have to pay $100. One of my friends in Dallas called, they only paid $75. The plumbing lines were clogged and I submitted a claim to American Home Shield over the phone, which is my preference. The reps were professional and they advised that they would call me in 24 hours or so. I noticed, however, that when I started, the lines were more open to file or place a claim quicker, but I understand the volume of work. The contractors would just go by the book. They solved whatever you put a claim on and they did their due diligence. I had a couple of issues in one of the rentals a couple of years ago when the air conditioning died. It was the cold season, around November or December. First, they came on a Saturday and I appreciated that, and they fixed the problem. A week later, it broke again and I called American Home Shield. The contractor came back but the job couldn’t be followed up under the same claim, and I was informed that there was water damage.
Usually, when you place the call, they fix the problem, and if they cannot fix it, they come back. American Home Shield delivered what they promised and my experience has been okay. However, I had to drop them because I thought I could have a better deal in the contracts by having two properties, and that wasn’t the case. I had a deductible of $100 or more on my property and on the rental, I have $75. I have a low usage and then I did the math. If the heaters would not be covered or it was going to be a low buyout, I'd rather have that money on the savings account and if something breaks, I'll use the money for that. On the rental, the warranty works well because you send the claim and you pay for it, so I would place more calls on rentals and the claims could be better handled by American Home Shield. It's the tenant's obligation to interact with the contractors but sometimes I have to be there because the tenants are uncomfortable with that.

Also, our bathtub was leaking around where the drains were out. I called American Home Shield and asked if we could have the same company who came and did our hot water heater and they said yes.
The next day, the contractor came out. He took a look and said that American Home Shield won't pay for a bathtub being repaired and he's not allowed to fix it. Someone from American Home Shield called and said that someone will check into our conversation and will get back to me. A week or two went by and nobody has done anything about it. In the meantime, my washer started making this horrible noise. It sounded like a helicopter is going to land in our laundry room. I called American Home Shield about it and the lady I spoke to said the washer has to stop working for them to fix it. They could have sent out an appliance person.

I would rather talk to a person, but that's probably an older person's problem.

My faucet was previously repaired and the technician was good about looking at it. He said it was best to replace them so I had it replaced. He did a good job, and after he has finished, he picked up and cleaned. Since the repair, the faucets have been good. It was a good experience with American Home Shield, however, the only issue when I filed a claim to them was the long hold time on the phone when I call. So, I got frustrated and went to the website. I emailed them about the claim and it was much faster that way. But I've actually recommended them to a coworker and my brother, who also became a member also with American Home Shield.

We still use American Home Shield, and we will continue to. Our biggest negative comment is the unacceptable wait time to get through to someone if you call. We ended up looking up the CEO’s number on LinkedIn. It's horrible and American Home Shield will lose a ton of customers if it continues. Oftentimes, you just need to talk to someone live. The online process does not facilitate your needs. It's beyond us why they don’t have everybody else’s service where they'd ask for the customer's number and they'd be the one to call the customer back, or have a chat service.
Our neighbor who referred American Home Shield loves them because it's cheaper than calling somebody. She has so much wrong with her house. American Home Shield is a great service when it works. But they got a limited number of suppliers. We had one guy who was great. The next guy was the most useless person we've ever met. For a garbage disposal, we got charged 150 bucks and all he did was turn a switch. He reckoned we needed the replacement but he didn’t do any diagnostic. He was brutal. Then he was saying something was wrong with the water with the shower. He turned it on and off. That was it. We ended up getting a neighbor come over to fix it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield has always been wonderful. Majority of the time, I've submitted my claims over the phone and it was quicker but when it was a long wait, I went online. One of my family members also signed up with them and when the water on her appliance would not go out, she called them. She said that they didn't service the appliance so she had a bad experience.
However, I always had a good experience with them and the contractors that they sent out were professional. The tech who came out to fix my dryer explained to me what was going on although I didn't have a clue. Even as a young person, he was very well groomed. Also, the tech who came out for the stove was courteous. The contractors have been on time and courteous and if they're running behind, they will call to let you know and ask if it's still okay for them to come. I was even surprised that they came out here for plumbing. American Home Shield provides very good service and I would recommend them to the world.

My washing machine's broken. I tried to file a claim online for my washing machine but it didn't let me because of my computer. So, I had to call them and managed to get a response. The tech had to order parts and they were coming back the next day to finish the job. However, I had one frustration. My coverage was ending on December 16th. So, I called on the 12th to make my yearly payment in full so I didn't have to pay the surcharge each month but I was on hold for about 35 minutes to do that. That was frustrating and that was not the first time.
Then today, they called and said that my American Home Shield policy is expired. I said that I called on the 12th and paid in full. They said they had records that I called and for some reason, it didn't go through. Technically, I was on auto-pay so if the statement that I got said that if I took no action, they would just continue the auto-pay for next year. So, it should not have expired anyway. It concerned me that that was going to hold up my repair, but they assured me that it won't. They called and scheduled the appointment for the washing machine so it was okay.
I'm very happy with the people that I call when I call for service. They have always been very good about taking a service order and getting the vendors to respond back to me. I've been with AHS for about 20 years or so and the vendors that they're using now are way better than they used to be so I'm much happier. I get the people and they get back to me in a timely manner. They've all been very good, very helpful, and very accommodating. Everything goes off without a hitch. $75 is a little bit steep for a visit, but it is what it is.

I had trouble with the toilet running. I went to American Home Shield to submit a claim and the contractors had to come out a number of times for the toilet off and on for a while. Part of it was to get the correct part. They recommended to get it completely replaced but that was not covered and I told them I couldn't do it. Also, it was hard because they only offered times during business hours, Monday to Friday so, I'd have to take off work. On the other hand, they were professional and on time, and it's working okay now.
I usually submit claims with AHS online. I have done it on the phone before and their reps were excellent, but sometimes, it takes longer and it's hard to get somebody to talk to. Sometimes, I'd be on hold for quite a while, but they’ve always gotten the vendor in the area and they’ve always gotten in touch with them right away. Also, I've always been contacted right away by whoever needed to come out. The technicians have been very courteous, professional and prompt. Even though I pay the fee to come out, it's nice to have peace of mind that if something major breaks down like the air conditioning, it's a good value. I may not use it every year, but at some point, I'm going to need to use it or have some sort of home maintenance. Even though there's always room for improvement with anything, I would recommend them. Overall, I've had a very good experience with American Home Shield.

My hot water tank was leaking. It didn't have a pan on it and the leak was going towards my bedroom, and I couldn't let my stuff get damaged. American Home Shield representatives always acted like they were willing to work with me. They were going to send a company and they said I'll hear from the contractor soon. Normally, the contractor always called me right back within the next two hours.
I couldn't get American Home Shield back on the phone once I put my claim in. They kept me on hold so long. I was at work and I stayed on the line waiting on them for three hours where the answering machine told me that I would have over an hour wait. So, I called Greenway because those are the people that were going to do the work and they told me that they had not gotten an approval to replace the hot water tank. So, I found somebody that was licensed to put it in and they put my hot water tank in. I tried to call American Home Shield back. I didn't want them to pay any for the labor but I wanted to get paid for the hot water tank because I didn't have any problem with anything else. But I never could reach them anymore.
Greenway finally called me and said American Home Shield approved it to get fixed. I told them I had already gotten it fixed. I was reluctant about using them because every time I use that company, they want me to pay for a permit. I paid them a hundred some dollars for a permit, then another $100 to get rid of the hot water tank when I should not have to pay a disposal fee.
Also, when they did my heater, they charged me a hundred something dollars for putting an electrical outlet in that was never done. I called Greenway back and told them that they owe me some money because I paid them $800 something and $100 something for it. I couldn't get AHS to give me any justification why they wouldn't refund me because they referred Greenway to me. And I couldn't get Greenway to give me a justification because they gave AHS a quote on how much it was going to cost for this that. But the contractor that came and their customer service were good. The people that came to my house knew about the equipment. They did the work and cleaned up after themselves. I really liked them.
However, American Home Shield needs a service where I could leave my name and number so they’d call me back as soon as possible. When I have a disagreement or when I need to contact them, I can't get them on the phone and it takes so many hours. Some of my questions never got answered. Nonetheless, I will recommend them. It's good to have a company that would send a reputable person and company to my house if I call them. I don't have to look in for somebody to do the work so I'm very satisfied with them. American Home Shield is a very professional company and they know what to do to get the work done.

I'm happy with my membership with American Home Shield. We had a ceiling fan where the light was blinking unsteadily and it never stayed on. I submitted my claim to American Home Shield online. The repair person came in and immediately saw what the problem was. He opened up the fan and there was a little box that housed the energy consumption. He pulled that out and we hadn't had a problem since. It was an easy fix. He did the job very promptly. My daughter can now use her ceiling fan.
The contractor was excellent and had great customer service skill. Prior to him coming into the home, he kept me abreast of where he was so that I would be able to meet him. We actually had more than one thing that we needed to accomplish. But he told me that I had to create other work jobs. I wasn't aware that I had to go through and make several different work tickets when I could have just combined all of it in one. I didn't like that because I ended up having to pay another service fee when I had a live person to speak with and I would have been able to do it all at one time. The website was just a little bit confusing and I would have appreciated a live person. But when I did get in contact with one, we were able to resolve it. The repair person was excellent. He came in and did what he needed to do.

I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years and we had their policy ever since we bought our house. Whenever I've called or made an appointment, they've always sent someone out here. Recently I had problems with my oven and microwave. The temperature was off on the microwave and it wasn't heating the way it should have been. I went online and submitted a claim. They assigned me an appliance dealer and then he called and made the appointment. A guy came out and checked the temperature and said it was okay. In the inside of the oven, the stuff they have around the door that seals the door had come off. The guy put it back on for me and that was it. Everything was okay.
I also had problems with my washer before and I had someone out here about five times, and each time they came out, they went through the whole thing. The belts were broken and the motor stopped, but each time they came out here, they fixed it and now it's been running for almost a year with no problem. I was looking and having to buy a new washer but it worked out.
Overall, American Home Shield was timely. They're quick to get you to the right person and to get an appointment for someone to come out here and it's never been more than a couple of days. At one time, I had an appointment for a week out and I called back to Home Shield and they said they'll give me another provider, which they did and the guy was out here in two days.

I haven’t had the greatest experience with every contractor I used. This last one has been a terrible experience. It seems like they don’t care that much. Our fridge cools sometimes then it doesn’t cool other times and we've been trying to get it fixed or replaced for two months now. A guy from Antech Appliance came out and recommended for the fridge to get replaced. He said he would put that in the notes in the system so that American Home Shield would be in contact with us.
After waiting a week and a half, I called American Home Shield and they said they don't have anything like that. We called Antech Appliance and they said they put it in the notes. When I called back, they said they would have to send somebody out again. The same guy came out and said that he recommended for the fridge to be replaced, that he didn't know why he was sent back out and that he was going to re-put the recommendation in his notes. I called American Home Shield and the Antech Appliance receptionist on speaker phone. The receptionist said, "He said what?" Then she read his notes and they said that he had fixed the fridge but that I wanted it replaced. The guy didn't deny it when they were on the phone. He waited until he got off the phone and said he would never talk to that receptionist again and that she had done this to him two other times.
After that, Antech Appliance sent over the lead tech and he was good. He didn't even take a look at the fridge and he knew what was wrong with it. He really seemed like he knew what he was doing and then he ordered a part. That's going to be in in the next couple of days and hopefully that would fix the fridge. If it does not, he’s going to put in a request to replace the fridge. This last claim was definitely a runaround although getting through with other claims has always taken a long time too. Even other companies schedule by the week out but that aside, American Home Shield has been good.

It was our very first experience. Our AC stops working when the outside temperature goes down (about 32-40 F). The auxiliary heating is turned on in this case but the AC air is cold. We ordered the service, they sent Blue Sky Heating and Air LLC. They measured the temperature, touch some pipe on outside unit, shrugged and said that there were no problem. We still have the problem. We paid for that visit $75 and also pay every month. I don't understand why we need such company which works with people who cannot do anything.
Updated on 05/11/2018: In December we had problems with the air conditioner. The guy came, didn't do anything, we still had the same problem. I wrote down here about that in December. We called American Home Shield because we thought possibly we're having maybe electrical wire problems, particular with the ceiling fans. They might have not been installed quite correctly. He explained to us what the problem was with the lights. The main thing was he said it wasn't dangerous so that part was good.
We also liked the plumber they sent. He was very informative and very patient. He answered questions. We can call American Home Shield 7/24 so we can't get better than that and we're very pleased. We've had American Home Shield for a long time now and we can't imagine anyone not wanting to have home insurance with them. AHS has not yet completed the repair on my washer and instead, they made it worse than what it was. It wasn’t throwing all the water out, it was shredding and leaving fibers in my clothes and the transmission was leaking oil. The technician said he replaced that but it must have been broken because now it leaves more water in my clothes. I have to spin them twice. The washer is super loud too like it's going to walk out of the house. I still haven't had the last part brought in and put on.
I called American Home Shield three times regarding that matter. I waited for an hour once and they said that they would call me back because I had another claim for my dishwasher. They replaced that and I had it put in. But I bought it for less than the payout and AHS told me they would send the rest of the money to me but I have yet to receive that. Also, the technicians had a good demeanor and they were friendly. But to not come back for many weeks or call me and tell me they got the part is not a good deal. I like American Home Shield for the most part. They're reasonably priced for the coverage and the copay is not that big. But they are super slow about getting anything taken care of.

I compared consumer reports on warranty companies and I signed up with American Home Shield. There's nothing hard about submitting a claim. You can call a number or you can do it online. Usually, the company that's going to do the work will contact you within 24 hours from when you made the claim to set up an appointment. However, the appointment can be a week from when the appointment was made. We have filed a claim before Thanksgiving and the tech came out a week after and they decided to replace it as opposed to repair it. So far, everybody has been really good. Everybody I met had all been very professional. However, sometimes the techs come but they don't have the part and yet AHS pay you the order. The contractor will callback to schedule another time to come.
Also with every warranty company, when the techs come out, they only fix what they think is wrong. I’ve had several claims with the heat pump and it seemed to be just recurring so I thought that we have to get the problem fixed in one trip as opposed to making several trips. If you’re paying for that out of your pocket, they’re going to come out and do the systems check and get everything right so you don't have to call back in six weeks because something else is wrong. My dishwasher took two trips. The tech thought he had it fixed but it wasn't so they came back. As for my microwave, they replaced it. They offered me about 20 different models to choose from but I didn't like any of them. They said that if I didn't like them then they'll give me this much money to buy a new one and I thought that the amount of money that they gave me was fair. They almost gave me enough to replace it with the same make and model that I have.
However, I wanted them to fix it and I didn’t want to have to go get a new one but that’s just the way it turned out which I completely understood. I was without a microwave longer because when I ordered one myself; I had to wait for it to get here then I had to install it. I still haven’t been reimbursed. I had to send them a receipt and they said I can get the money after two weeks but it has been almost two weeks so I’m still waiting to see about that.

One time, I felt insulted when I had an electrical problem. The person from the electrical company talked to me like I was stupid. I’m not an electrician and I answered to the best of my ability, but he kept asking the same question even after I've answered it. I told him that the whole left side of the house has no electricity, but he kept asking, "What socket?" I'd tell him again that the whole left side of the house has no electricity and I don't know which socket. It was frustrating. When it was over, they wanted me to hang up, but I got the feeling that he and another person on the other end were talking about me.
Other than that, I’ve never had a bad experience with American Home Shield. When the electrician came, he was decent. It’s been a few years and I’m glad I have American Home Shield. I spoke to the manager and she was really helpful. She understood what we were saying and she tried to get in touch with Ultimate Plumbing company. Unfortunately, it was closed on a weekend and most of the companies had their teams already out in the field scheduled for a farther distance from where we are. She really tried hard but nobody could make it. It wasn't possible, so we had to wait. When the contractor came out, he was fabulous. He was very courteous and told us exactly what he was going to do. On American Home Shield's website, there's no way for us to express how urgent the issue is. My first day with American Home Shield goes back to 1998. It was a house in Topeka when we lived there. Recently, the range and the burners had stopped working. I submitted the claim over the phone and it took about ten minutes before I got someone. Then the contractor called within 24 hours from the time we called in. They gave us a date and we chose one. I would have liked an earlier date but we had to wait about a week. Fortunately, we have a microwave and the oven was still functioning so we were not totally out. After the repair, it's all working fine now.
However, I have one caveat. Every year we got these people coming out and we went through this with our air conditioner head on. It gets us through the year and then the next year when we turned the furnace on, it wouldn't work so we have to call them back. So it's service fee, then service fee again. We finally just replaced the air conditioner on our own then we reduced our expenses. Other than that, I would recommend AHS because they are responsive and they do a good job.

I’ve had a couple of claims with AHS. There was a leak in my ceiling from my shower upstairs. The repair guys came very quickly in a day or so and fixed it. On the other hand, we had been dealing with the microwave for over a year now. It was off and on for a month and it took forever for them to get the parts, replace it and fix it. It broke again and then they fixed it four or five times. AHS said that they couldn't replace it until the repair guys tell them it couldn't be fixed. Then, the microwave people said they couldn't replace it and to tell AHS it needed to be replaced. There were mixed signals and nobody knew what they were doing. They then realized they couldn't fix it and got me a new one. It should’ve been replaced sooner than it was. Now, I have a new microwave.
In addition, when I called in to submit the claim, it took me over an hour and a half one time to get through. It used to be that I get somebody pretty quickly on the phone, but now, it’s a nightmare. The people making claims through the phone are already mad due to their issues and waiting for an hour to get somebody makes them madder, and they take it out on the person trying to help them. They need to hire more people. I’ve referred AHS to people because I’ve been happy. I’ve been very happy up until these past six months with my microwave and I had to call back several times. Unless that changes, I’m not going to tell anybody to do it again.

I had an issue with the master bedroom shower, so I went online and submitted a claim with AHS, and they went back to me saying that they will send somebody to do the work. A company called AMTM came, and the contractor said that he didn't carry the part on his truck. So, they'd get the part and then come back to fix it, but they never did. I called them, and they never returned my calls. So, I complained to American Home Shield, and they said that they’d send somebody else. They sent another company, and the guy was very personable. He said that there was a problem, went to his truck, got the part, and put it in. He said that it was a new valve, and he changed it right there. It took him 10 minutes and he was done.
However, I have an issue with AHS because they charged me $75 for the first company that came but never came back to fix my shower. I called AHS a couple of times to get a credit on that, and they said that they will give me credit. I've called them twice and I'm still waiting for it. They told me I don't have to pay the second $75. So, I didn’t pay for the second company that came. I was guessing that they’d put the charge I paid for the first company against the one that did the job, but I’m still getting emails that I haven’t paid that credit. I don't want to pay for a job that wasn't done.
I’ve previously had an issue with the icemaker on my refrigerator. A guy came in and said that he’d have to order a part, and nothing was ever charged until the job was completed. So, to my understanding, we don’t pay them until the job is done. But with AMTM, it was charged immediately. Other than that issue, the shower is good now. The second company did a good job. My contract with AHS ends in November, and I’m now paying $50 a month to keep it going. So, I’m satisfied with them.

Our refrigerator wasn't cooling so I went to American Home Shield’s website and submitted a claim and it was very easy. The contractors came out about three times. They initially replaced the compressor and the gentleman was very professional. We called them back because the fridge had stopped cooling again and he said he was aware that sometimes the filters get clogged, so he repaired it. When it stopped cooling the third time and we called them back, American Home Shield wanted the consultant to go out and check. The gentleman who came to repair it was from a different agency and he was apparently more adept with a built-in fridge. On the third time, he said that these fridges need a lot of normal repairs that people don't understand and that they have to replace a particular cooling panel at the back and the sides of it.
I was very pleased with American Home Shield for getting another opinion, so it was a good deal. The repair took a while but it was fine, and the people that were sent out were professional about it. American Home Shield handled the claim well but if I can add some constructive criticism, it is that we didn't understand that they were referring the job out. We only knew when the company called us to tell us, so we wanted to make sure that it wasn't accidentally double booked. Had there been some correspondence explaining that they wanted a different opinion that would have been a bit easier. The vendor provided the information so I didn't want to see someone else show up and they weren't supposed to. There should have been a bit more communication concerning that.
Since the last repair, the fridge has been perfect. To replace it was $8,000 so I wanted them to do whatever they could to make sure it was running. However, I think they repaired the refrigerator a year prior and it sounds like the same part may have gone out, but I don't have those records. So I'll wait for them to look internally and say, "Hey, why did I have to replace the compressor twice or evaporator twice?” Just to protect their business.
I would absolutely recommend American Home Shield through a friend. Sometimes it takes a few days for someone to come out but I also understand that working in a warranty program it's not going to be immediate service. We had another fridge so it wasn't a big deal. But the people they use were prompt. It wasn't next day service per se. It was always a few days out. So that would be the only complaint. But they handle it well. I'm pleased that they fixed the fridge again. I didn't have to buy a new one because that would have really ruined my Christmas.

I am a realtor and I have used American Home Shield for my clients over and over again for 35 years. The most recent claim that I submitted was for a refrigerator which was getting water on the shelf. The first time the repairman came out, he wasn't able to fix the unit. Then, he found what the problem was and made a last minute fix. He was very diligent. He called on time and when he got the part, he came back. I was very pleased. However, the big problem about them is that whenever I try to call them, I wait. I waited 45 minutes several times. I've never done that with any other plan and they didn't use to be like that. It's making me rethink whether or not I'll use them again because it reflects poorly on me as a realtor. But when I get somebody on the phone, they have been very helpful.
The other problem I had was on the second house I had. A couple of weeks before the warranty was about to expire, I called them and told them that I was not going to renew it. They discontinued it but they deducted the monthly payment from my checking account. They straightened that out but the next thing I knew, they took out something from my checking account. I also got a letter from somebody saying that the contract was going forward. It took me several phone calls to get them to stop and refund that. We just got that check two weeks ago for $48 and it was supposed to stop on October 3rd. I would not recommend AHS to anybody.
