We built a new house and when the builder’s warranty went off, we bought the home warranty from American Home Shield. It's been 15 months now and it's certainly beneficial. Our washing machine was hooked into a wall and the connecting metal thing broke but it didn’t take the contractor very long to fix the issue. I also had another claim recently. We were without water all weekend 'cause the house would have been flooded. When my husband finally talked to somebody on Sunday, he was told that I didn’t say it was an emergency but there was no place to say so on the website. I submitted the claim that way because I was put on hold when I called and it took an hour. Also, the website's easy to navigate. With AHS, I don’t have to worry if somebody’s going to get things fixed. They send out good plumbers.

Recently, American Home Shield replaced my dishwasher. The hardest part of filing a claim is getting the live operator because they’re that busy. It’s a long wait. But if you waited through and you managed to get somebody that will take your claim, they’ll send somebody to check everything out, and they get $75 for that. Usually, if it can’t be repaired, they’ll just replace the whole unit. I complained about my refrigerator as it was freezing up the food in it. They checked that all out, found out what was wrong, and ordered the parts. They came and put in one part. They needed a gasket which kept the doors closed. They ordered it and that has not come in as yet.

The contractors are usually very nice and very eager to please. They always ask you if you have any other items that are not working properly and they’ll check it through for you. But I got one lemon and he made my oven explode. I was lucky that I didn’t have a true explosion, and he was lucky he didn’t get burned. He tried to make the oven work and the whole thing just blew. It was a particular firm that American Home Shield used and it was the father of the owner. He didn’t speak our language. Since I don’t speak Russian, we couldn’t communicate. I requested that they never send that company to me ever again and they haven’t. He could have set my house on fire. He was trying to take out the light that lit up the oven and it had nothing to do with what I was complaining about.

Also, I’ve been having some problems lately in getting my microwave and oven. They can’t tell me the measurements so I am wondering how am I supposed to know and say it's the one that I want if I don’t know the measurements of what they are offering. I tried to call them about it, but if I want to see it, I have to go out. I live in Johns Creek and I have to go to Kennesaw. That’s the only place that has the unit that they say will fit my old unit. But overall, American Home Shield is very good. I’ve been using them for the last umpteen years since I bought my house and I find them very reliable. The customer service team is always very nice. When you report a problem to them, they don’t send that company out to you in the future.

I've had 2 claims for a plumbing issue and a bathtub that's leaking into the basement, and it's been a horrible experience. I'm considering dropping American Home Shield because of it. The contractor came out and said it was a roof leak. I just had a roof inspection, so it's not the roof. They were very unhelpful. So, now, I have to pay everything out of pocket for it. I've tried calling American Home Shield, but there's always a 45-minute wait on line. They said, "Well, that was his diagnosis. And, unfortunately, there's nothing we can do." I tried calling back to make a complaint about the contractor so they wouldn't use them because they have really bad reviews, and I can't get through them.

The GFI box in my garage was triggered. The light was flickering and then there was no power. Submitting a claim over the phone with AHS went smoothly. The reps are always professional and efficient in making sure the date that they give on when they'd call back is the same date that that person would call to set up an appointment, that's why I still have the service. The contractor that came out was very great and cut the power back on.

I've been with American Home Shield since 2007 and I would definitely recommend it. I typically do claims over the phone and the experience has been good. There were a couple of things wrong with my air conditioner recently, like the blower motor and a coil, and it basically quit working. The technician was very thorough and I was impressed. He fixed it to work right now but I've had to have someone come out to do my air conditioner once a year. It's been redundant, plus the unit is from 1998 and I don't know how long it would last. They might as well replace the unit rather than continue to fix it.

We've called American Home Shield for a couple of other things and the contractors have been right out to fix things. Everything is going well with American Home Shield. They've got a good product and they stand behind their claims.

In my six months with American Home Shield, I’ve had a water heater replaced, a fridge repaired before Thanksgiving and a repair on a furnace. The biggest frustration for me, though, is that I can't get a live person. What happened with our furnace, initially, was that it was only working in half of the house. This was on a Thursday and they sent me a text saying these people will come out on Monday. We went through a cold weekend. The person was supposed to come by noon on that Monday but he didn’t.

I called the contractor and they said that they were not coming. They don’t work on oil furnaces but no one told me. They said that they told American Home Shield and that I needed someone else but I could not get a live person at AHS. I couldn’t do anything online because then the only thing it would do is take a new claim and charge me another $75. When I called the helpline, I sat on the phone one time for 45 minutes and then had to go because I have a life. No one ever picked up. Also, with the water heater claim, going through the whole process, we were without hot water for about six days. It took that long for someone to get someone here.

Their technicians are absolutely great, though. They are nice people, clean and did the work. Everyone of them was wonderful. I'm glad that AHS paid the claims and the people that they have had come out are good professionals. I'm pretty appreciative of that end very much, but on the customer service and trying to reach someone and trying to understand the process, it was very clear, I didn’t feel that they responded.

He changed all the locks and gave me the new keys. American Home Shield has been okay so far.

I filed a claim with AHS for my fan online but I had a problem so, I called. They helped me, gave me the information I needed and referred me to the company that would do the job. The technician knew what he was doing and he fixed it very quickly. AHS' customer service was good. I had a question in regards to the order as my name and some information needed an update in the system. I explained to the rep what the problem was. He took note of it and put that in the system.

In the past, I had an experience with another company which I didn't like so, I requested AHS to send me another company. In addition, I added to my contract to repair the refrigerator and I added a fee. A few years later, I requested to service the refrigerator and the fee was included in the payment I made every year. The following year, the fee was the same but not included anymore. That was my question which they didn't' answer neither by phone nor by email. Other than that, I'm satisfied with their service.

I have been using American Home Shield for 15 years. My experience with them has been very good 98% of the time. When it hasn’t been good, it wasn’t really because of American Home Shield. It's because of the tradesman that responded to my service request. They either just weren't knowledgeable or they weren’t polite or they weren't clean or they just couldn’t get it fixed for some reason and had to make multiple visits. I can't throw American Home Shield under the bus. They got a really good thing going on and it has paid huge dividends to us in the homes that we've used them to cover our appliances and systems.

I called them recently and requested service on two refrigerators. The warranty policy that I purchased from them allows me to select specific appliances where they'll actually cover multiples of those appliances. It's called the Pick 10 plan and one of my picks was a refrigerator because I have three in the house. I have two large double-door side by side, and then I have a small mini fridge like a dorm-style fridge that I keep in the garage just to keep soft drinks and water handy. However, one of them had an ice maker issue and the other one had a thermostat issue. So they dispatched a local service technician, and when they came, looked at both refrigerators and got the information they needed.

Usually, I submit my claims online if it's something really simple. But in this recent case with the refrigerator, I had to call, even though I don't like calling because it's not unusual to wait 30 or 40 minutes for them to pick it up. Their call center must be incredibly busy. So, it is much more convenient to do it online. But because I could tell that the automated voice system got confused because it acted like I was just repeating myself, I ended up calling them. It really is very efficient and easy to just go online and submit your request and it works the same way. They're very responsive. I usually get a call within 24 hours from one the business they dispatch the repair to. And they're almost always on schedule and on time.

There have been a couple of cases in those 15 years though where they send contractors who were not great. We had a refrigerator in our former room that had a water leak. And it turned out at the end of the day to be something just incredibly simple. What made it frustrating is that all refrigerators have a drip pan down in the bottom where the condensation from the defrost cycle from the freezer compartment runs into and it actually had a tiny hole through in one little corner and that's where the water was dripping out of. It took four different companies and seven visits to my home before anybody found what was causing the leak. Through that process, they replaced the thermostat, the water valves, the tubing and replaced everything, but the fridge, and still couldn't find the leak. Then, a particular technician took that drip pan out and, sure enough, he found the little-rusted hole in it and that was the problem. It's still running today.

There has been a couple of times when the technician was just unprofessional or wasn't clean. He should either keep his hands clean or carry some handy wipes or a rug because they will leave their fingerprints on the trim or the wall or the appliance. There was also one instance when one guy, for some reason, offended my wife. And that's where I just got to draw the line. I asked him to leave and then I called American Home Shield and told them that we didn't like that guy and he was offensive. Other than those may be three instances, we're very happy with them. I love them and I have recommended them to a lot of people. My son uses them and some of my friends use them too.

We submitted a claim with American Home Shield for our stove that went out and it was very easy because it was all online. The repairman came out within a day and we were pleased with that since it was two days before Thanksgiving. I’m sure people were on vacation and it was the Holidays but given that, he came out very quickly. AHS ended up having to replace my unit since it was not repairable. However, once it was determined that we needed a replacement stove, we had to call their purchasing department and that was a hassle since we had to wait for over an hour to talk to someone.

Getting the new unit and having it installed were also fiascoes. The freight company that was supposed to deliver it called to tell us they would not be able to come at the time they were scheduled to come. At that point, it's been 10 days since we’ve been without a stove. When they finally rescheduled to come out a couple of days later, I notified Home Shield that we were on propane and would need a conversion kit which the stove came with. But the company who delivered it refused to hook it up to propane so they dropped it. As they were walking out the door I called Home Shield and they had someone out here the next day to convert the orifices from natural gas to propane. Then we were up and running. This second company that came out was fabulous and the stove is working wonderfully.

They were too busy and it's hard to get an appointment. It was so cold and we had to cancel other activities just waiting for them to come. The company that came was really good, though. They took care of the stuff and quickly finished it. They did a very good job and the unit is now working. I recommend AHS. They will cover a certain amount so I don't worry about the huge expense to come up. But there are charges that I have to pay like when I had that air conditioning service one time. So sometimes, in the summer, it's not covered and that sucks.

We called American Home Shield and we talked to their rep to submit the claim for our washer. It would go through a rinse cycle and keeps running. It wouldn't stop draining and it won't realize that it was empty so I have to set it off and reset it. The tech came out and experimented with it. He cleaned the hose that was maybe loaded with sediment and he put it back together and it ran fine. But, my washer started doing it again so the tech came back and he replaced the sensor that tells the machine that the water is out and it can stop. The washer has been perfect since.

Every time the tech came out, he would tell us that he would be arriving in 15 minutes so we're always ready for him. He had to walk it through because there was a lot to determine when he was walking it through. He showed good mannerism and he did his work very professionally. I was happy with American Home Shield until last year. This year, there has been a little bit of problem. They're taking the $75 upfront. That was not good because if I wanted to take the $75 on the spot, they didn't care. They fixed the dryer 3 weeks ago but not the washer. It's been a month and a half and the washer is still not done. Someone from the corporate office helped me to change to another company but the company is not taking care of the issue. A technician came and did the investigation. He told me they could order the part and it was going to take three to five business days. He said I was gonna receive a phone call from the company where he was going to go from his office to get the order. Friday came and I didn't receive a phone call so I called. The lady told me that they had to talk to the technician and the technician was out of the site. Once they talk, they were going to order the part. So it was going to be more delayed.

American Home Shield ordered another company but they're giving the same thing. Today I called American Home Shield and American Home Shield called AG Appliance. The American Home Shield lady said she was gonna keep an eye on it but I don't know if they are going to fix it or if they have ordered the part. Everything is a question mark. If I know that they ordered the part, at least I can tell my supervisor that "Hey, this day I need a day off. The people is coming to fix my dryer." I have a big laundry load and I'm waiting. I'm already spending 99 every month for the fees which is on top of the $75 dollars that I paid. The service that I'm getting is not good. I already took a day off 3 times. And I'm not on salary. I'm on hourly so I'm losing my money from work.

The other one never even contacted me and that's been over two months ago. One of the contractors that came out, I asked him the questions and he answered it for me.

Also, AHS supposedly ordered my refrigerator for me to replace it and the company I was supposed to call to set up the delivery has no record of the order that was supposed to be placed on November 20. So, I emailed AHS to find out, get a copy of the order and I haven't received it yet. There was no response. But as far as them replacing my refrigerator and the dishwasher, that's a plus. I purchased a dishwasher and sent them a copy of the invoice, and they're supposed to be reimbursing me but I haven't received that yet. We have an open lawsuit against American Home Shield right now because of their services. We purchased our house this year and called American Home Shield for some problems we were having. It started off with a couple of things at first. The first thing we called them for was either a doorbell or a thermostat issue. They came out and couldn’t fix the doorbell and we accepted that. But they found out what was wrong with the thermostat. Each time somebody comes out, we pay $75. Even though the guy couldn’t fix our doorbell, we still paid him $75. Also, American Home Shield picks which company to send and we don’t get a choice of who comes out to our house.

We live in a pretty nice neighborhood. Our house is just under three-quarters of $1,000,000. If we're going to have people coming out to our house to work on it, we’d want reputable companies and reputable people. Unfortunately, AHS contracts with providers that would give them the best deal but they don't make sure that those providers are qualified to to be working on the appliances and equipments, and servicing the work orders that they're being provided. AHS also does not make sure those providers have the proper training or if they are even legit companies.

The problem started happening when we went to turn on our air conditioning for the first time towards the end of May. We have a three-story house. I've got two children and the pregnant wife all living here. It's a brick house and these houses get hot during the day, plus they hold their heat like ovens, so it’s a nightmare. We filled out an online request form and they sent someone out. When they got here, I asked them how long was the time they allotted to be at our job site. The guy said that they've got two hours to do the service call and that he was here to work on one unit only so if we wanted him to work, we'd have to pick which he’d work on.

I called American Home Shield, and they told me not to let that individual work. They'd reissue a work order that will allow them to have time to work on more than one unit. That individual left and American Home Shield scheduled another visit, but the company that came out billed us $75 when they didn’t even perform any work. They didn’t even set foot in our house. When that same company came back out to service our equipment, they informed us that they didn’t service our type of air conditioning units. They weren't educated enough to be able to perform the service that we needed for our air conditioning unit. They left again without even doing any work and charged us another $75.

Then AHS had another company come out to look at our units and we asked specifically if that company was going to be able to work on these units and they said yes. I took off work, but the company they sent never showed up. The next day, I called AHS and scheduled me for another day on which I was going to my daughter's dance recital. However, my wife’s pregnant and I got a one-year-old baby, so I wanted to get this air conditioning unit fixed as soon as possible. I missed out on my daughter’s dance recital that morning. When the contractor got here and we showed them the units outside, they informed me that they didn’t work on those types of air conditioning units either. They left without even getting one tool out of their truck or even stepping one foot in my house. And I was charged $75 again.

The first time all this happened, I had the 1-800 number and it took two hours just to talk to someone. I was on hold and wasting my time. I got tossed around and hung up on. Finally, I got to talk to someone, filed a claim got updated. I asked one of my friends who’s a real estate agent if he ever used this company. When he said yes, I told him to stop because of what was happening with me. He then gave me the name of the supervisor in St. Louis so I can call him directly. I called that guy, David, and told him what was going on. He was in disbelief. Then he assured me that he's going to make sure that that was the last time we’d ever speak and that I’d be taken care of that day and that I never would have another problem with my air conditioner. When I told him about the times I got charged $75 he told me they're going to take care of it and I didn't have to pay it.

He sent out another company two days later. However, before that, I hired my own air conditioning company to come and put 12 pounds of Freon in my air conditioning unit because I knew that’s what it needed. I paid the air conditioning guy $750 out of my own pocket so that we could have AC over that weekend because it was 100 degrees. Then the third company came out and I told them exactly what's wrong. The unit upstairs is freezing up, which means it's low on Freon. They agreed and said that since I just got it filled, it must have a leak. I said, "Fine. We'll get that fixed." They then went downstairs and took notes on the air conditioning unit there.

The tech said that the problem was the motor. He got the part number and contacted American Home Shield after a day or two. AHS authorized for the repairs to get done. At that point in time, a month and a half has gone by as it took two weeks for the first company to get out here. American Home Shield, for some reason, ordered the wrong parts that were shipped to the dealer. The dealer then picked and chose the time when they’d come out to our house. So they were just waiting American Home Shield to send the parts.

Two weeks after they said they would send the parts, I called back and checked with them again. They said, “No.” I called a week later, and they said the parts came in several days ago, but once the parts come in, only then will they put me on the waiting list. We had another two-week wait for them to come out. They should have just had me on standby, so whenever the parts got in, they knew what was up. This company was supposedly sympathetic to our situation. Then they said that they're going to come out here, but unfortunately, there's $1,300 worth of work that American Home Shield wasn't going to cover. They had to replace the wiring and the copper since it's a code thing. At that point, I didn’t care and agreed to it.

They ripped out all of my air conditioning units, even the one that I just filled up with Freon a couple of weeks before. They took 18 pounds of Freon that was legally mine without even asking me. Then I noticed that they weren't replacing the wiring and the cooper. I asked the technician why and he said they can just hook it up to the existing copper and electrical wires. I told him that they were charging me to replace all the wires and copper and if they weren't going to do it then I wouldn’t pay for it. He called his boss and all of a sudden, they took all of my air conditioning units and left stuff all in disarray. Then they left without even saying one word.

When I walked upstairs to our third floor, there were scratches across our hardwood floor. Then I went into our guest bedroom where there wasn’t even an air conditioning unit or anything to do with an air conditioning unit, all of the furniture was moved across the floor up against one side of the room. The floors in there were all scratched from them sliding the furniture across instead of picking it up and moving it.

They opened the windows, took the window out of the sash, and threw an air conditioning unit from the third floor out this window down onto my nice landscaped lawn in the front yard. Not only did it break a limb on my tree underneath and left huge indentations on the side, but they also scratched the window sill. They took a functioning air conditioning unit. While it didn’t work the best but it still worked just a little bit. I went around the house to see what else was going on. They didn’t even start working on the other unit. I walked outside and all of the electrical wiring and plumbing were just dangling there. On top of it all, they stole my scrap metal.

I called the company and they won't get back to me. I called American Home Shield and told them what's up. AHS called me back and told me that the contractor said that the work has been completed and I told them otherwise. Then I called the air conditioning company and told them everything that was going on. They said they'd send out the owner the next day to talk to me.

The next day, the owner came but was 40 minutes late. I took off another day of work to meet this owner. He got out of his truck, then another truck pulled up with two other workers in it. They weren’t the workers that came the day before. They didn't get tools out of their truck so they weren’t here to do any work but for a confrontation. He started yelling at me while I was standing on my front porch, and he's walking up the sidewalk to my house. I came off of my porch and walked around the side of the house. I pointed at the air conditioning unit, the bare wires just hanging there and the copper that weren't finished being hooked up to the air conditioning unit.

I told him that they’re liars and his workers told American Home Shield that this was all finished and hooked up. I also showed them the damages that were done. He said he didn't have to take that and left. Then, American Home Shield told me that they weren't going to send out another contractor to fix it and I had to take the cash-out amount or do nothing. Everything was their fault and I told them they sent out people who weren't even qualified to work on the AC unit, to begin with.

In the middle of this process, American Home Shield locked us out of our account on the computer. They said that we owed money for the contractors that came. They sent the collection agency and then suspended our account. We couldn’t access it or have anybody come out to our house to look or work on anything. Over the course of two months, I spoke to David, who said before that I'd never have talk to him again, over 100 times.

It's been a year and our air conditioning unit still isn't fixed. We went through the hottest part of the year with no air conditioning whatsoever on all three floors of my house. Plus, the mini-splits downstairs needed to be replaced. Now, we don’t have heat on our first floor and it's going into the coldest time of the year. That’s where our TV room, our Christmas tree, and our kitchen are. There's also the dining room and all the things we use when we're together as a family. It's affecting the emotional and mental status of my entire family right now. It's been frustrating for me because I've spent a little over 200 hours on the phone with American Home Shield this year. And I took off eight days worth of work to meet contractors here at my house or go over stuff with contractors.

This week we are using AHS again. We turned on the vacuum the other day and the power blew on three of the rooms on the second floor. I went down and tripped the circuit breakers. I tested all the ground fault interrupts in the bathroom to see if any were bad, but they weren't. They're not even getting power to trip them. But the problem is, if they send out the cheapest contractor they can find and I’d ask them to put booties on, they’d come in to your house and look at me like, “What are you talking about?” I wouldn’t want their greasy boots on my $50,000 Kashmir rug from Persia. If they want to accept the work order, then send someone out here that’s capable of doing the work. If not, then see you later.

I’ve only got one issue with the contractor that they sent out before but besides that every time I called in the past I’ve been satisfied.

I had a problem with a fan and it was resolved after submitting a claim with American Home Shield. The fan stopped sucking up the air in the shower area. The person that came out fixed it pretty well. But the problem is sometimes, American Home Shield sets up a new way that they can dispatch their service, and that dispatch feature doesn’t always work on my phone. The reps that I have spoken to are fine but the call takes too long and it’s ridiculous to get through. I’d tell my friends to go online and log the information rather than wait on hold.

Most of the technicians are good and the last one I had was really good. However, I don’t care for the electrical company, Sundance. They didn’t fix the problem. If it’s not working, then replace it but it takes hard for them to make that call. I’m paying this insurance all year long. American Home Shield should give a better break to people that have multiple accounts with them. They should give a really good bundle program because right now, it’s not that great. I have five pieces of property with them.

I called American Home Shield when the main bathroom started leaking. The reps were efficient and told me that someone would be here from the plumbing company. The contractor came in, found the problem, went out, got the parts, came in and fixed it. He was here 45 minutes total. This gentleman from Allstate Plumbing was excellent. But on the claim that I had on our dishwasher several months ago, I wasn’t quite as happy. A spring had broken in the dishwasher door so when I opened it, the door fell. When the repairman came, he wasn’t concerned. He said it was just external and since then, the dishwasher has not worked like it had. It is working at this point but it doesn’t hold the heat where it most dries the dishes. Now, I’m going to have to save up and buy a dishwasher.

American Home Shield has been fantastic though. The very first claim that I ever had with them was on Thanksgiving morning. My oven went out and I panicked. They had a repairman here in under an hour and I had my oven and my turkey dinner on time. From then on, I'm never leaving American Home Shield. There’s a new company that is telling me they're better than American Home Shield but I’m not going anywhere.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield used to be easy but it’s extremely difficult now. I cannot reach them on the phone and it’s a high call volume every time. I have to wait 10 minutes or more than an hour and I usually just hang up. Recently, I filed for a garage door opener and a refrigerator claim at the same time. Once I got a representative, it was easy. I set up the appointment and the lady was helpful. When I got them on the line, there was a skip and that was the end of that.

A day later, my refrigerator was all of a sudden making a strange sound so, I called AHS back. I went through the whole process but I could not get them until the day they were supposed to come out. I panicked because that day, the people that were coming out for my garage door were scheduled and I couldn’t add on another claim. Finally, I waited it out on the phone and I got AHS, and they added the claim on. I thought though that they would charge me one time for the multiple things.

The contractor who came for the garage door was amazing and he went above and beyond. He called me to tell me he were coming out and he called me after to see how the service was. The guy was very professional, kind of provided maintenance for the garage door and even found out that I just needed a garage door opener, the remote. He probably would not have had to come out and even waived the fee for that cause. I felt so comfortable with him. On the other hand, the guy who came for the refrigerator made me a little nervous because he wasn't in any type of business vehicle. He drove up in his vehicle, which never happened before, and I didn’t know who he was at first other than he got out with tools.

I had a plate that was coming off from the bottom and he did not fix the problem in any way, shape or form. It didn’t make sense what the contractor was telling me about my door staying open. It was off balance in some kind of way but he just told me I had too much in the door. I told him that I never heard of that before but I moved everything off the door. Also, the grill in the bottom that covers the wiring won’t stay on but the repair guy said that he couldn't fix it and that he'd have to order a new one. He would just mail me the part and I could install it. There was no reason for him to come back out for that. But I never heard from him again and never got the plate. And since I couldn't reach him, I just gave up.

All of a sudden, I started getting a bill for $75. I always paid the bills as they come out. I spoke with AHS and they said they were going to waive it but I keep getting the bill saying it was past due and that they were going to terminate my service. Whenever I called back, they agreed and they could see it was agreed to that they were not to charge me. There was a confusion where the agent didn’t explain that there would only be two $75 fees. I said that if that was the way it was, then I was going to pay it but they said no.

It was not a good experience with them at all. It's a totally different company than that one I signed up with years ago and I loved them. The number one thing that changed is reaching them and I let them know how I feel about that whenever I call. If I try to go online and order the service, it’s not letting me schedule for some reason. It could be me doing something wrong though. I then have to call which I try to avoid. Another change is the way I pay the fees. It’s not just one charge when the contractor comes out and that's fine if that’s the way it is. But what I don’t like is having them come out but I’ve never get something fixed.

AHS had always had top-notch people out and they had been very professional and they got things fixed. But I’m very dissatisfied right now. The difference with the contractor who did the garage was night and day. And I still have a bill out there that I can’t find out whether I should or shouldn’t pay it. The person that wrote the note was off the day I called and he is the only one that can make the adjustment because the people I’m calling and complaining to can't. I'll probably not stay with AHS.

I have a mobile home and there was a leak underneath. The contractor who went to do the work on it was unable to determine where the leak was because they could not get underneath the floor. They didn’t believe there was enough room and claimed that there was only four inches of room to get underneath there. However, we were in the process of selling the home and the prospective owner crawled under there herself and determined there was a problem. She then called an independent plumber on her own, who was able to come and crawl under and find the problem also. It added a whole bunch of extra time to this whole process. When I let the contractor know that, they were a little bit defensive and stated that that was just policy. I said that maybe it was just because their plumbers are too big and that they need to find small plumbers. Since instead of really doing the job, the person just claimed that it was too tight to get into.

Now, I’m really under the gun to get this thing done because the loan documents are going to expire on Friday. The buyer is not feeling good because things didn’t go as quickly as they should have. There’s a possibility that this whole deal might go south because of that. And every time I called American Home Shield, the waiting time was well over an hour. If it had been this way all along, I would have cancelled the contract a long time ago. But all my other calls have been pretty good. I regularly got people out here in a timely fashion and they’ve been able to do things pretty well.

The wait times were a pain in the butt and they need to have better phones. Whenever I call AHS, I’m always on hold for over a half hour. They are the worst and it's been like that for four years.

When our heater stopped working and I called on a Friday morning, I got a rep after almost an hour on the phone. The rep was friendly though. AHS then sent me a text saying that they contacted someone. I called the company to find out when they were coming out and it wasn’t going to be until Monday afternoon and it was cold. While waiting, we used a space heater. I live in Alabama so the temperature was down in the 20s and it was nice.

The contractor was great other than they stopped working at 4 o’clock, Friday. He came out here and was able to get it started right out. The problem was something stupid and he just had to clean something. The heater got fixed and has been performing great. It was 70 on Wednesday and we’re going down into another cold snap.

Then, they said, "Well, we can change it since your requesting to somebody else." I said I want somebody else that could come out.

When we called Friday and told them nobody still contacted us, even though they told me somebody would, it ended up that someone would come Saturday morning. Saturday morning comes and we're wondering where they are and what time they would come. When we called the company's number, they don't open on Saturday. Then, we called Home Shield back, and they said, "We can't get anybody for today, so maybe tomorrow." Finally, someone came on Sunday morning.

In the end, there was nothing wrong with the tank. It was a circuit breaker that made the heater go out. So, the guy just came and flipped our switch, and it was working again. We're out a $100, but oh well. But, after all these years being with them, this was the first time that I was totally aggravated and disgusted by the service. I like American Home Shield. I’ve had very good experiences with them. One time in our other house with our air conditioning, there was a relay that was going out and the people had come out to regularly check my stuff twice a year and found out about the relay. He replaced it. It was 90 something dollars and I would have to pay at that point. It was 60 something for them to come out. And when I told American Home Shield about it, they reimbursed me for the part, so I was very happy. They’ve been very good to me.

Our latest claim is for our GE Profile Advantium microwave oven. It’s like a real oven. It does halogen, microwave, convection and everything above the stove. It just stopped working and the GE tech came out and looked at it. He just told me what was wrong, tested a few things and then said he would have to order parts and then he called me back an hour later and told me those parts weren’t available because those were discontinued and he’d exported the information on to American Home Shield. I only have the guy out on Monday so I haven’t heard from them yet. At least now they know they have to send a GE person out because the normal run of the guys don’t know what they’re doing with it because it’s a complicated piece of machinery.

The only problem lately is that when you get on the phone to try and talk to somebody, your wait is almost an hour long or more. So, that’s a nuisance. They’re trying to get everybody to go online but I’m old-fashioned. I want to talk to somebody instead of putting claims online. And I’m sure there are a lot of me out there. If I have to talk to someone immediately, I have to call at one or two in the morning to be able to talk to someone within 10 to 15 minutes. Other than that, I have had no complaints at all with the service and I have recommended them to other people.

It went on for three times and then AHS finally switched over to another company. The last contractor, they explained that the pipe wasn't large enough. However, I had to pay additional money because they ended up going through the vent and AHS didn't cover that. Nonetheless, their reps were fine and they tried to take care of the problem.

Recently, American Home Shield had a contractor to come out to put a faucet in my kitchen sink. He was so professional and on time. He was explaining to me everything they had to do and what was going on. He was telling me, at one point, that they could go back with the same faucet or I could upgrade because they couldn’t fix the faucet. I would have to get a whole new faucet. I told them if I'd get it for the same price, I’d just upgrade to a newer faucet. We also had a problem on being it so hard to find the parts. If I had that problem again then we won’t have a problem getting the parts because it’s upgraded from an ‘87 to a 2016. I’ve been with American Home Shield for a good while and they're very good. Keep up the good work.

It was for the stove top and he said he had to get a part but he never confirmed with us when he's coming back or what he had to do exactly. So, I'm not sure if he's coming back again but the case hasn't been closed yet. I haven't had too many issues but sometimes the quality of work is a little questionable and if they the best contractor possible. I can't use my stove so it's making it difficult if I had to cook anything.

Our air conditioner turned on but it wasn't cooling the house and it's hot over here in the desert. I do everything over the phone with American Home Shield and it usually takes me about an hour to get through to somebody. I specifically requested this contractor who's helped me in the past because his employees understand my unit and they know it well. They've been servicing it for a long time. It was about three days before techs came over to fix the AC because it happened over the weekend.

I've been with American Home Shield about 22 years now and the last two things that I have in this house that haven't been replaced by American Home Shield is the refrigerator and the dryer. Everything else in the home has been replaced the last four years. I own five properties with contracts from this company and I left them for about six months to test the water with another company because they were a lot less expensive. But in the end, they weren't worth it. It was a big mess, so we cancelled with them. We ended up going back to American Home Shield. Even though they were ahead up the price, in the long run, it's working out best for us. I would totally recommend American Home Shield to my family and any of my friends that own any property.

My thermostat controls my heater as well as my air conditioning. When the cold weather came and I turned on the heater, the vent came on but it wouldn’t shut off. Submitting a claim was easy and I got an immediate response. The contractor they sent was very good. He's also very nice and polite. Plus, he did what he could to try to fix it the first time. When I called back to say that it wasn’t working, he was back within a couple of days and got it all fixed up. He replaced the main gizmo in there. Now, everything seems to be working just fine. I just wish that they also covered the garage door opener.

A couple of years ago, when I first got started on AHS, I had a leakage in my plumbing. The contractor who came out said that I was imagining it and that it wasn’t real. He checked something and he told me that it doesn’t seem to be a problem. Then he went away. Later, I had a flood. They came back and got it fixed. I told them there was a leak and if they had dealt with it the first time around, I wouldn’t have had a little flood in my house. Fortunately, it didn’t do that much damage. I have an older home and I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield.

We submitted a claim for the microwave with American Home Shield before but I did not get any satisfaction. My husband and I ended up going down to Sears in Fresno and buying a new one. Right now I have a problem with the dishwasher. The dishwasher machine is not cleaning properly at all and this will be the fourth time that they've sent someone out. The reps on the phone are doing what they're told to do. They said, "Well, we'll call someone," and they waived the $75 fee again.

They sent out a young man and he was very cordial and polite. And he's doing what he's told to do finding a part. We're going to see what happens Thursday and then it's up in the air with American Home Shield. We've been a customer for about 20 years. We live up in the mountains here and maybe that's a problem too that we can't get good service because it takes a week for anyone from Fresno to get up here. And then if they had to order a part it's another week. So I would tell a friend who would ask about them to try another company. The service has been bad.

I had to call AHS back but they were not able to get it fixed so I went ahead and contacted the service technician from the manufacturer of the refrigerator to have it fixed.

I will still continue to use AHS despite the experience with the refrigerator because for other things, they have done a great job. I've been using AHS for years now and it's a very good service to have as a homeowner. Their reps are all excellent and I had no problems with them. The techs were all courteous. Even the guy who came out to service the refrigerator was pleasant because I told him I can't give him a good review if Sears comes out, and he said, “I understand, sir.”

It was an old machine that just didn't work right and was never that bad. They didn’t fix it every time but they think they did. We had to change the configuration of the dishwasher and they told us we have to change the plumbing but I talked to plumbers and contractors and they said that wasn’t the problem. And finally, the repairman said the last time that he couldn't fix it and that we would have the company call us and replace it but it turned out that the company refused to do so.

They also said American Home Shield would be in touch with us and we got the cryptic letter saying they couldn't afford anything. It was also impossible to get through Home Shield by phone and there were often delays and they didn't always answer and we were always put on hold. It was very frustrating and not worth the savings because we could get the same care ourselves without subscribing to them. We did everything that we could possibly do and now, we're left with nothing and we’re so unhappy.

American Home Shield never fixed anything. It was horrible. I have asthma and I have been in this house for 12 years. I have two air conditioning units and lately, I started having problems with them. One person came out here and he changed something to make the blowers start working properly. When you clicked on, it never stops running. It started winding, but then it would take a long time for it to cycle off. Somebody else came to say it was too much Freon.

The thing is, there's so much confusion. This person told me that one unit needs three pounds of fluid Freon. The other one needs four to six. I said I'm not paying for that and so he leaves. The next person that comes to check it again says the same thing. I was mildly confused about the whole situation. Now, the one on the living room side, which I never had problems with is now winding and wouldn't turn off. I requested a service call and for the first time in my life, I didn't ask for a human being. Instead, the recording went back and put a recall on the last call that was in there. I didn't know where to do that.

So, when the person came, he said he couldn't work on the unit that was giving me the problem. He had to work on the other unit. In the meantime, I went out of town because my sister was dying of cancer. When I came back, it's cold as the outdoors here. I tried my unit on, and neither one of them won't come on. If you press the on button, it won't come on. Just the fan running, and I smelled the burning stuff like you would from cold to heat. But the fan is not blowing on either side. Some guy called me and said that he would get somebody out to come check my unit, but he didn't. I did not call him back thought I would just forget it. So right at this moment, I am living in a 32 square footer using some little floor heaters because I have paid so much money between the $75 charges I pay for one thing to get fixed, or the $69 plus $79 that they charge you monthly. that I could have gotten my unit fixed.

And also another thing that really ticked me off outside of the air conditioning units is that one day, all the smoke detectors went off in the house. Normally, I would go hit that thing in the ceiling with a hammer. But I changed the batteries and they all went out, so I ended up having to call the fire department. The fire marshal said all the smoke detectors were expired. They had an expiration date on there, 2015. They got up the ceiling on a ladder and pulled one down. And looked at it. He'd recommend they all be changed out.

The guy sent out by AHS came in there. Whoever he talked to on the phone told him to check to see if the detectors will go out. He changed the battery, which I have already done once, and it did do whatever problem he said that it was having. I told him that I went to Amazon and bought the nine batteries I needed for the $75 he will charge me to come out and change one. He was going to charge the company $650 to change out nine of them since that was what the fire marshal said. I asked if my house burns down, will American Home Shield put the charge on my insurance? After that, I was done because before I even told about that problem, I canceled it. So many people have come to my house and told me so many different things.

I have been with American Home Shield for four years and I had a terrible experience with them earlier this year when our refrigerator broke. They had the same guy come back eight times before they finally said it was unfixable then they gave us some money to buy a new refrigerator. And when I had to submit a claim for a broken dishwasher that they were going to replace, I was left on hold for 40 minutes before I was able to talk to someone. I got so annoyed that I hung up. But when I called for new business, they answered within two seconds so I told them that their existing customers get 40-minutes wait but their new customers who aren’t customers yet get a two-second hold.

Recently though, I had a wonderful experience with AHS. I had a slow draining sink in the bathroom so I called and a plumber came the next day to fix it. The guy was really lovely. I had work and it’s always awkward when I’m on calls. But he was quiet, looked through everything and he waited until I was off the call then fixed the sink. He also explained to me what had happened and gave me some ideas on how to prevent the problem going forward.

Overall, it’s nice to know that I don’t have to look something up and I can just call AHS and they will get someone out here. But there’s definitely a sense that they’re trying to spend the absolute minimum. For simple repairs, it's good but if it's anything complicated, they’ll try and fix it a lot of times before telling me to just get a new one. While I get that, it got excessive this year.

I've got two different policies with American Home Shield and they're okay for small items, but when they incur larger expenses, they find ways to either decline or put the burden mostly on the homeowner. With my primary home, I had a claim for the water heater and they paid for it which was good. But they said that their contractor said that the piping was a modification so they didn't pay for that. How could that be a modification? It was a disagreement but I wasn't in the position so I told them to go ahead.

What I found out was American Home Shield does not pay the contractors as much so they force the contractors to upsell or change the wording so that the work would sound more like a modification rather than a standard thing. For someone like myself who is in the business, not only as a contractor but as an engineer, I know when something is stretched.

For the property I now rent, the person doing the repair on the air conditioner said it needed to be changed completely. I told him it always had a filter and it was not as dirty as he thought. But he insisted that it needed to be changed and that was the recommendation he gave American Home Shield. I asked him how much it would cost to change it and he said $5200. I went ahead into Angie's List and found somebody for 230 bucks. When the guy came in, he corrected the issue and was done.

Another thing I noticed was that the contractors they use are not National-recognized, or even locally recognized. They're probably giving opportunities to mom and pop shops which is good but the problem with that is they are less trained contractors and technicians. I had a problem with the plumbing and I knew what the issue was. They only paid for the toilet seat to be changed so I paid 100 bucks to somebody even though I can do that myself. I went ahead, cut the thing myself and fixed it.

In another claim, the lady said that something was covered for my pool but when the contractors came out, they said it wasn't covered. The conversation had been recorded though and American Home Shield agreed with what the lady told me so we went back and forth on that. Also, now American Home Shield has a website but submitting a claim used to be harder. You would stay on hold for 20 minutes before somebody answers. So would I renew? Maybe for the rental but not for the primary home.

We were getting ready to sell our house and the garage opener door wasn't working. We submitted a claim online, and then a guy sent out by American Home Shield came. It turned out to be a minor adjustment, so he didn't even charge us for the visit. My wife did most of the conversation with the contractors and she said they were really helpful. They were responsive and they did call to confirm to make sure that we were going to be there. They were also very informative. When we sold the home, we worked out a deal with the real estate agent to go ahead and buy the new homeowners a one-year account subscription with American Home Shield so they have a new home warranty to continue that service with them.

It's always been pretty easy to go out and submit a claim to American Home Shield. But I don't like the size of the fee that we have to pay when we call. I talked to other people with their home warranties and they don't have to pay near as high a fee. To them, it sounds like we're just paying for the guy to come out but we're not. It's cheaper than what it would have actually cost us. But I would like for either the monthly payment or the co-pay to get cheaper.

I've used American Home Shield several times and they are easy to deal with. Submitting a claim is simple too. I've got their number on my computer and I call them up. I talk to their computer and give them my account number then it basically walks me through everything. Then they email me back with my claim number and to say they've forwarded the request to the right contractor. One of the parts in the furnace was bad and that was the third in a row that the cold weather kept putting it out. A contractor came out the first two years but he didn’t do anything. The guy who came out last time ran a bunch of tests on all the parts and he found the part that was bad. That has been working good since then.

We had another claim when a pipe was leaking in the bathroom in the hallway. A guy came out from On Time Plumbing & Heating. He gave me a call that he was on his way and that he would be there in a number of minutes and he was. I went up to the attic with him the first time because it was in the middle of the house towards the back. I showed him where the drip was at then I left him. He came back down and said he would take care of it. About 15 minutes later he was back down and he said it was fixed. Apparently the contractor that Home Creations used didn’t put glue on the pipe at the joint so it had a little bit of water leaking out which got on our ceiling in one room. The contractor did a good job. We've been with American Home Shield for three years and we purchased a five-year plan. It is a good bargain in case something goes wrong. The property I purchased out here was going to be a multi-unit and I got the warranty from American Home Shield to be able to quickly service calls and replace defective equipment as far as having tenants in. Submitting a claim is really easy. I have two accounts for different properties here in San Diego and I just go online, pick what property I want to put a claim on and then I hit submit a claim. It gives me all the options that I'm covered for and I click whatever is in question. If I have a water heater for instance, I click plumbing then water heater and I make a claim. Within 24 hours, the contractor would call me back. We set an appointment then they come out and take a look at it.

With the electrical work recently, I wanted someone with a license to come out and check the wiring. The fan itself turned out to be faulty and it was something that I couldn't determine. There wasn't really work to be done but he explained exactly what needed to happen and he explained it perfectly well. Then I got someone out to replace the fan.

American Home Shield covers all the appliances and even the things that go bad right when you least expect it. And it's quick. For instance, my dishwasher wasn’t draining and they got someone out to inspect. If nothing was wrong with the dishwasher, it was the drainage system so then I know what to fix or modify. If there was something wrong with the dishwasher, they would replace it for the cost of the service fee. It's like they cover everything. The warranty is well worth it just because you can pay for American Home Shield when you want or when you're ready. There's peace of mind with it.

We have an open for almost a month now. Last time I called American Home Shield, I gave up after being on hold for an hour and 15 minutes, listening to the stupid music for a representative to come to the phone. From a service point of view, it is inconceivable that somebody has to be on the phone for more than an hour waiting for somebody to come on, or not being able to talk to anybody because you got tired of waiting and you got other stuff to do. If other companies allow for them to call you back, that's definitely an option.

I also wish American Home Shield would do some background check on the company that they hire. I don't know how they went and picked these people who are handling our refrigerator. For whatever reason, they have been frustrating. They called on a Monday so they can see you on a Friday and in the meantime, I got to have a cooler. Then, they had to order the part and they are coming on Friday, after one month, to finish the call. I'm just waiting for them to fix the refrigerator 'cause I don't want to antagonize them. But after they leave out, I'll make sure I'll send AHS a letter because nowadays, you can go on the internet and find information and the company handling my refrigerator issue has so many complaints out there. I don't understand how AHS still uses them.

Otherwise, I like the service. We've had the warranty for three years and in the past, we would place a claim and the process online is simple. Then immediately, somebody gets assigned. The plumbing company we had before was fine too. The person who came to our rental seemed to be very knowledgeable and although the tenant's still saying that she has some issues, the original call was for overflowing in the shower and I know the guy went in and did his job.

We had our microwave go out and I was told that somebody would call me within 24 hours, but that was last week and no calls. I sent two emails and called AHS, which when I finally got through, it was an hour and a half of waiting on the phone only to be told somebody would call us back. I got a message that they need the dimensions of the microwave, which was what I sent in an email, and still no resolution. I got a voicemail today saying they need me to be in front of the microwave with a measuring tape. I’ve already done that and I can tell them off hand what my microwave dimensions are because I measured them. My microwave has been out for two weeks, right before thanksgiving, which was so screwed up timing.

I still have a claim on my range from two years ago. We recently had the same tech look at it again and no resolution. They said that they filed the information with AHS stating that the model and the parts for it are no longer available, which was the same for the microwave. He's the same guy who came out for the microwave. I was told by the tech that he spoke to AHS and he was told somebody from the appliance area would call me and that the microwave is going to be replaced. But I never got the phone call back. When I do call, it’s over an hour wait and at an hour and a half I’m hanging up. I’m not going to stand all day on the phone.

The plumbing issue was taken care of very quickly. The people who fixed it were awesome and very accommodating. I am very frustrated over the two claims that haven’t been resolved. As a matter of fact, I’m thinking about filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because I’m so ticked off about this. Nobody has even mentioned my range out, which has been two years. I feel like AHS is intentionally not getting back with me because they don’t want to replace it when it’s under my contract.

In large part, the reps I speak with are mediocre, in terms of both friendliness and helpfulness. In instances where we've had to have a part ordered, sometimes it's taken weeks and multiple phone calls to get things resolved. My overall experience with the contractors has been good, though we had an issue yesterday where the contractors showed up too early and I wasn't able to be here. I've had AHS for probably 15 years in this house. Initially I was very happy and felt like it was a good value. The service has gone downhill over the last couple of years to the point where last year and this year, I'm really considering not renewing.

Something got reversed and the AC seemed to be putting out heat rather than cool air. I submitted the claim online and the contractor got here the next day when he said he would and fixed the AC in 10 minutes. We’ve been using American Home Shield since 2006. Maybe, after that long a time, they'll start cutting my bills. I have a warranty on all my systems in the house, so I'm not too worried about something crashing on me.

American Home Shield called me to request my renewal in the warranty and I told them I was having trouble with the heating system of the pump in my house. So, they set up a service call for me on the phone. It was pretty easy. The person I spoke to on the phone was good. Then, I got emails constantly updating me on when the service technician would come. They sent out a technician who was knowledgeable and experienced. He replaced a part that went out and the heat pump has been a bit more efficient and effective than it was before the service. But, I had to pay a $75 service call fee so I was doing it blindly by who AHS sends out. That aside, I’m satisfied with AHS. They are a reputable provider of service and I would recommend them.

We've had the house going on for years and we've always had American Home Shield. They're awesome. However, the first couple of times we had problems, they wouldn't help us. The contract stated that if they can't get something repaired, they would replace it but they said they had to do maintenance. We had just bought the house and everything was brand new in the house except for the things that they were saying that weren't which we didn't know because we didn't live in it.

We ended up paying $10,000 for one air conditioner the first year. Then last year, we had to pay $9,000 for another one 'cause we have a two-story house. We had to pay the fee for the guy to come out but we also had to pay for the actual air conditioner and the condenser because they didn't replace it. Everything that we have in our home was a chrome, aluminum and stainless steel but when we had to get the microwave replaced, they wanted to give us some white thing. I told them it doesn't work that way. They should give us what we have but we ended up paying $100 extra to get the stainless steel one. They should honor the product that you have in your home and they should give you that product if it can be replaced. That's the only problem that I had with them. If it was anything major, they gave us a hard time. But if they do something simple, they don't give us a hard time.

You can either call AHS or request an order online and you will still get a feedback right away. Their contractors were great. When you call AHS, somebody calls within a few hours and they say they're going to be here then they're here. AHS has always sent somebody they're supposed to send out and the contractors usually know what they're doing. When they didn't have the parts, they ordered it and told us when they were going to come back. They truly showed up and did what they have to do. They tell us everything too. The customer service at AHS is also great. We had problems with AHS last year but they gave us our first call for the year free and they honored it so that was good. I recommended AHS to my brother and he took it.

In August, I had a water heater that went out on Friday, which was a terrible day to have it go out. I called and AHS said 24 hours. I called the contractor and told them I can't wait all weekend. The contractor said they don't work on weekend. The plumber showed up 1 o'clock on Monday, pulled out a wire with his knob-nose pliers, and then stuck something back in. Two weeks later my water heater was out again. Same weekend scenario.

Another company came out on Monday and he said he didn't know why AHS called them because they are more of the commercial types of contractor. He then asked me if the other contractor blew me up because the pilot light was right against the gas. He said, "Sure you've got everyone in the gas line going up through your ceiling, to all southern units, including yours." So I told him he needed to report this because, obviously, he's the professional and I'm just the homeowner, and he did. He at least re-assembled everything properly.

The heater went out again early November. It was cold and was on a Monday so I called and AHS said they'd send somebody out. I saw the text that it was the first contractor. I told them I never want to see him in my home again so they had to cancel him. It was two more days before I could get somebody out but the contractor said the heater was leaking and was beyond repair. In the meantime, I told AHS that I was not paying for all the service calls when the first one was cancelled because I personally cancelled it and the second couldn't fix it. They sent a third person who was great and fixed the heater, and I do intend to pay that one.

I had given the first gal my credit card during the first call and during my second call when I cancelled the first contractor, I gave her my credit card again. So when the third person came out, I thought she had my credit card but she evidently didn't. So now I get these letter and emails that state there's going to be a $141 or $114 charged to repair my drywall and I don't know what this is about. It's terribly frustrating. I don't have time to babysit all these. I replied to the email if my water heater is deemed to be replaced and what the drywall repair is about but nobody ever responded.

I recommend AHS only because it's my company's preferred warranty company, but I lately have been telling people that there are others to consider and I've heard good things about them. I was convinced that if I ever have to replace something, that AHS matches the quality of what's in the home or exceeds it. I haven't had to deal with that but if I do and I find out differently, I will never use them again.

Two weeks ago, one of the wires from the fuse box to the AC unit got fried and a fuse was blown. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and they sent a guy. However, when he came out, he didn’t cut the power to the house off. So, when he went up there, he knocked all the lights in the house. So now, the board is messed up, and the guy came back out and I showed him the board and he said that it looked like something shorted. So, he came out a third time to replace the board, but now I think that he knocked the board and the module out.

That’s where we’re at now, and I’m still waiting for it to be repaired even after a couple of weeks. I’ve lost a couple of days’ work the first two times and I couldn’t keep losing days at work. The next appointment is on Friday from eight to noon to finish up. The guy made a mistake, but I love how he comes out here. I’m loving how they’re handling the issue. They call me about 15 to 20 minutes before they come, and then they’re there.

My parents have American Home Shield and when I bought a new house, they talked to me and told me it was a good idea for me to get it. Submitting a claim is easy sometimes but there needs to be an option to be able to talk to somebody. It’s hard to find someone to talk to and I’ve had problems trying to get a hold of someone when I need them. I didn’t know how to go about doing it and instructions weren’t very clear to me. The last time I talked to a rep, it was not good but I got my point across. I have been having problems with my dishwasher at the time and they had sent this one guy twice from Hewan Appliances. I was wanting the same person to come back because they wanted to all of a sudden send a different person out here.

They wanted to send Sears and I said, “I’ve worked in electronics. I have an electronics background.” And I asked them, “Why would you send a different technician to work on something this other gentleman has been working on? Because now we’re going to have to start over. He’s going to have to dig from scratch when this other gentleman has been working on. He’s taking notes and he knows what he was doing.” And I said, “I was so comfortable with the other company since my wife has already dealt with them. Now, you’re asking me to try to figure out how I can be home with this another stranger coming in my home? I don’t know if I feel comfortable with that.” I wanted the same company to come back out here because I was so comfortable with the gentleman and the rep didn’t like that so we had a back and forth.

She told me that I don’t get to choose and then I said, “I’m not choosing. I’m just telling you that you already used this guy. You send them a report and that’s what I want.” And then she thought about my way and sent the same company back out. But it took me a while to figure out how to get someone on the phone to even talk to them because every time I did the automation thing, it kept sending me to Sears and that didn’t make sense. The guys who came out first worked on this thing twice and he knew what the next thing was and what to look at. The most recent claim we had was my refrigerator. It had started almost a week prior. Things weren’t getting as cold and the freezer side started to fall about on its own. The gentleman came and charged it, and we hadn’t had problems since.

Most of the time when we have someone coming to the house, we got to corral the dogs, and the gentleman was like, “Don’t worry about your dogs. I love dogs.” He patted them and talked to them. He explained thoroughly what he was doing, what he found when he was going to contact the company, and what the next steps were going to be. He talked his way through it while we’ve had people coming and have worked on a heater. We’ve had problems with our heater since we moved in and they sent a couple of different companies. This is where my frustration came in. One company came in and did this. This other company guy coming in from a totally different company said, “That guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s this.”

I’d rather settle for one that’s very knowledgeable and telling me what he’s doing. I would feel comfortable with him in my house. He came and introduced himself to me and my wife, and it made me feel more comfortable. He wasn’t just here about business. He was here to find out what my needs were and how he can help me and make sure I feel comfortable with what he was doing while being in my home. American Home Shield sends multiple techs to do the same job and they’re not always going to agree. Everybody’s going to have their own opinion. Other than that, I love them and the peace of mind they give.

The people that American Home Shield has sent out were all nice guys and really pleasant to talk to. They were professional too. We asked them to put on shoe covers and they did. The only downside was we've had them out three times for the same repairs. It was a real inconvenience to us that we had to call and the biggest problem with Home Shield is when you call, they put you on hold. The last time, we were on hold for over an hour before they came on. The shortest time we've ever been on hold with them was 40 minutes. It was almost like they put you on extended hold to get you to hang up and not file a claim or come back on a previous claim that hasn't been fixed.

We put the phone on speaker and set it down then we go on about whatever we were doing but we still try to stay within earshot of the phone so we don't miss it. Eventually, they would come on and when you do get through, they're really pleasant. They have been real courteous and most accommodating. They go beyond themselves. But it seems there is a problem that they're understaffed and they can't process everything as quickly as they need to. My wife has mentioned the issue to a rep but they were just sympathetic. Besides, if they fixed the problem the first time, the people wouldn't have to call back four times. That will cut their wait time considerably for the people who have first-time calls.

The faucet in the kitchen was leaking and when the guy came out, he said the faucet needed to be replaced. He said he was going to order the part but it never came in so we called Home Shield back. They set up another appointment and sent a different guy out. The second guy who came out fixed the outdoor faucet and the toilet. He said he would get a part for the kitchen sink and when that part came in, we called Home Shield back but two of the repairs that they had previously done had broken again or weren't repaired all the way.

The first guy came back out and he said the part that came in wasn't going to fix the kitchen sink. He completely replaced the sink as it was completely worn out. He also told me to call Home Shield back when it starts leaking and that he would come back out. He would order a faucet next time but of course it was delayed. We had to call him back out and fix it. Then something was leaking in the toilet and we would hear the toilet come on and run. That was the third time we had that fixed and they're scheduled to come back out again next Wednesday. The entire experience has been frustrating. The last time, the contractor also said that if I call back, he would definitely be the guy who comes out because he's the only one left that Home Shield uses in Tulsa for plumbing.

We’ve had American Home Shield for over 30 years. Four or five years ago, I retired from selling real estate, and I used to say to every one of my clients to get American Home Shield and they won’t be sorry, even with new homes. But I’ve gotten to the point where I’m going, “If I have to wait an hour or something to get through when I can’t go through the computer system, I’m gone.” There are other companies out there now and this is a big issue for American Home Shield to address.

I had to call American Home Shield and when I make a call, I have to hand-carry my telephone with the speaker on so that I can catch the telephone operator when he or she comes on, and it’s at a minimum of one hour. This has happened and I had to do it a few times in the last couple of weeks. When American Home Shield posted my payment, my credit card has had a change in the expiration date and it had extended out.

The extension wasn’t working so I knew what it was. I was receiving the calls from them saying, “Hey, your card’s not working, et cetera, et cetera.” It almost got to the point where it was like, “We’re going to hang up. Call us to get this taken care of.” I tried my best to call and I called a couple of times. And then, I grabbed my phone, which I had laid down, and some lady got on there before I could get the speaker up, and she was gone. This has been a really bad experience with their phone system. I also got on to their system and it said, “Put your credit card in.” I put the same credit card in with the extended new date for the expiration but it did not do any good so I’ve called several times. I’ve gone on their system to put in the credit card and it says, “Okay, we got it.” Today, I had to call in because I had what I thought were two payments posted and it was one hour and 16 minutes to call and talk with someone.

We got it all resolved but their phone system is really lousy. However, the reps are good and each one of them had apologized, and the young lady saying, “I’m so sorry.” I said, “It’s not your problem. This is a big problem for them.” I’ve never had that kind of a problem. I call and wait for a few minutes, but not like this. Last year, I had a contractor and I called back and complained about them. Their performance was bad and it was with my shower head. The guy was a jerk and I went, “This isn’t the type of people that I’ve been working with ever.” I’m having a second call on a dishwasher. The contractor came and the dishwasher worked for a day or so, but it’s not working again. The order where you push the button to make it start doesn’t want to stop.

So, I’ve called them again and it was Al’s Plumbing. Their company was very efficient, very nice, and the gentleman who did the work was great. I’ve had always had high regards for American Home Shield, the people they’ve hired, and their workmanship. I had a washing machine once and I didn’t want to have it replaced or repaired because then I’d had to have the dryer matched up, and I said, “No. Just fix that thing.” They worked on it four or five times. Then someone who was working on it said, “They could have bought you a brand new one from its shop.” And I said, “I didn’t want to get another.” It was one that I didn’t want to get the dryer to match and I’m going to have a non-pair in there. They gave me a loan fall off for 300 bucks but I said, “I can’t do anything with that. Fix it.” And they did.

When I call American Home Shield, it’s been top notch. It has recently been with that blasted telephone because I’ve had to call them back or get something corrected. When you stand around and you carry around a telephone for an hour, you go, “This is too way out of line.” I still would recommend them, but they should understand that when it’s bad, they fix it now.

I had a problem with my washer and dryer. The washer could not be fixed so American Home Shield replaced it. They had to get some parts for the dryer and it took a while for them to get the parts. They got the parts and came back out. They took the dryer apart to install the new parts. But they said that it didn't really need the part that they had gotten because there was something wrapped around inside the machine. So, they unwrapped that. The machine worked but it still has the same noise that we had originally called about. I tried calling the company itself but I could never get through. So, I went back and called to put in another claim with American Home Shield and they started the process all over again. In a couple of days, they contacted me and sent somebody and they determined that it needed some parts. They might have had to re-order the parts because they haven't been back and this has been a couple of days now.

I normally contact American Home Shield online. Originally, I try to call but I found it easier to go online and put in a claim. I get a response from American Home Shield saying that they got my request and they are going to contact whomever they are going to contact. They tell me who it is and they say that the people will contact me within 24 hours to set up an appointment. But it has not been within 24 hours at any time. It's been at least two days before somebody called me back to set up an appointment. And then, the appointment is normally about a week from the time they call me. When they come out to do the initial diagnosis of the problem and they tell you what needs to be done for the next visit, it always says online that the job is completed. I don't agree with that. The job isn't completed because they have to come back and do whatever action they need to do.

I would tell friends to check with somebody else to compare. The people were pretty good but they had to come back out. I had them out for a garbage disposal, and they changed the garbage disposal on the spot. There was no problem. But there was something they left loose. So then, it had leaks and I had to call that company back. They came back and determined that there was something they didn't do completely. That was a different company.

But I had another problem with the same company, and they came out. They determined the issue as to what the problem was with my sewer line. They took pictures and told me what needed to be done. Before they came back, the company called me and told me that there was going to be an additional fee because they had to move something out of the way in order to get to the pipe that they needed to get to. I didn't think it was that big of a deal because it was just a piece of wood that wasn't even being used. They could've just cut it off and got into the pipe. But, no. I paid the $400 and something for that and I wasn't pleased. The technician didn't think it was the problem but when he went back to the company that he worked for they told him I had to be charged for it. I called American Home Shield about that and they said because the company had to do something extra, they had the right to charge me an extra fee.

I also had a problem with electrical and a guy came out and found out it was something underneath the house that was causing a circuit trip. He told me he was going to floor it on so, they said they would send someone to check that out but it never happened. They then sent someone out for the microwave in early August and I’m still having people come out to the house for the microwave. It still hasn’t been resolved. But American Home Shield is not a bad investment, and if anything happens, the warranty almost pays for itself quickly.

The process was good on my most recent claim with American Home Shield. I needed to get my refrigerator fixed. The contractor scheduled my appointment from 12:00 to 4:00 and a four-hour window is a bit excessive nowadays. So I started calling at 8:00 AM on the day of my appointment. Then I called every hour until 11:00 before I spoke to someone and I asked if there was a way they can get me a shorter window because it was my day off and I had to run in around. She said she’d call the technician to see his schedule. She called me back and gave me the same 4-hour window. I was at home by 12:00 and the guy didn’t even show up until 4:45 which was later than the appointment that was scheduled so that really made me upset. I was calling but they didn’t answer their phone or even respond. I left messages initially but after the third time, I stopped, and no one called me back.

I started calling American Home Shield about 3:30 when the technician hadn’t arrived yet and their wait time was an hour on hold. And then I called back. When we want new service, people answer just like that. But if we’re calling and trying to speak to someone in reference to a service, the whole time was an hour plus. But eventually, they got it fixed. It was something so simple that it took less than five minutes. The contractor eventually had to pull the refrigerator out and there was pressure in the little valve. He had to push it up or push it out wherein he didn’t need any tools. It was the first time that I had ever experienced that. Usually, I could do everything online and it answered within that day if I put in a service request. But I would still recommend American Home Shield. I’ve had nothing but great experience with them.

The people I bought my house from last year included the American Home Shield warranty as part of selling it to me. I usually like to call and talk to somebody but the AHS reps have been so busy. I've had to submit the claims online lately and haven't been able to talk to anybody. I sat for probably close to an hour and a half the last time I called. When I finally got somebody, he was apologetic about it but it didn’t fix my issues. I've had the same plumber three times this year to try to handle some issues I've been having with draining, and honestly, I have not been happy with the whole experience. They keep having the same plumbers come out and I keep having the same issues and they're still not resolved. They want to do what I ask them to but they said, unless I specify every time I call in the exact issues I'm having, they're not allowed to do anything beyond that.

The contractors have done numerous different things. The first time, they came out to snake the lines to see if there was a clog or something but they won't do that. The last time they were out, I had a roof problem and the city told me to call and specify for them to go through the front drain in my yard and to sink that out, and that was the only thing they did. It got fixed a little bit but I'm still having issues with my sink and it's not draining properly. I'm not happy with the overall value of American Home Shield. I can't even get anything set because I can't get a response. I told them three times that I would like to get a call back because I've been charged every time they have their people come out to supposedly do the work. I also feel like they don't care about and they're here to collect money, and that's about it.

The worst company ever! Expect to be on hold for at least an hour WHEN YOU DESPERATELY NEED SERVICE before they even answer and then expect that after your appt is scheduled they will lose it and then when you call back 3 days later when the service person failed to show up (mind you they did lose your initial request, again, in the first place) and when you spend over two hours trying to reschedule to discover that their earliest appt for your broken refrigerator is now a month away? Yeah, lousy company, lousy service. I liked having the "peace of mind" and have been client for 4 or 5 years but this last time was the final straw. I called about fridge on 11/27/2017, said repair person will be here 11/28/17 between 1 and 5; never showed and never called.

I called back on 12/1 and they say nothing in the system??? I did have confirmation # so they have no choice but acknowledge I had called but now they can't get to me until 12/28/2017 - ONE FULL MONTH FROM INITIAL SERVICE REQUEST & THIS IS MY MAIN REFRIGERATOR!!! Today is only 12/12/17 so only time will tell if they will truly show up. Terrible company, terrible service and if this was the only instance of such service you could excuse it. This is the third time of 3 different situations and all 3 were just as this one is - inexcusable terrible service. Obviously I plan to cancel this years long service I haven't enjoyed and write it off as lesson learned!

We have had American Home Shield for over a year, and at first this company was amazing to us. I recommended them to everyone. This past year, however, things just haven't been right at all and I'm extremely frustrated. We have had the same company out to work on our air conditioner unit four times already this year. The fix only works for 2 weeks before the air stops blowing cold. They refuse to believe there could be a freon leak and then I'm billed for their replacing freon after the visit because it goes over the American Home Shield limit. I've stopped calling because it's now winter and I'm just too frustrated to deal with it anymore.

Now, my kitchen sink and dishwasher won't drain and until I can fork out an additional $150 to pay out of pocket for the plumber to go on the roof, because American Home Shield doesn't cover that, I'll be washing dishes in my bathtub. We have four children in this house including a toddler. The sink first clogged right before Thanksgiving and is still not fixed! So Christmas will be a fun time. And calling in a complaint is unrealistic if you work during the day. You're looking at a wait time of AT LEAST an hour and that is during the off hours.

I submitted a work order request on Dec 3rd due to a leak in my kitchen ceiling. It took the assigned plumbing company 48 hours to contact me regarding an appointment and gave me an 8 to 4 window for arrival. The plumber was nice but didn't do anything that a plumber is supposed to do to locate a leak. After cutting into my ceiling, he stated that I didn't have a leak but I continued to explain to him what I had experienced while pointing out the obvious signs on the ceiling and allowing the water to run continuously. After about 25 minutes, the ceiling started to leak. The plumber checked the leak but didn't have the part to repair it.

While we were able to locate that leak, he didn't resolve the issue with the leak on the other side of the ceiling. He didn't bother to check my toilets to ensure that there was not clogs as stated on the work order. He merely flushed them and stated that they are fine. I've had at least 5 calls with both, AHS and Mayes Plumbing but the problem continues. AHS requested that the plumber come back out, but the plumbing company continues to give AHS excuses as to why they shouldn't have to come back out.

In the meantime, I don't have access to my shower and constantly worried about my toilets; not to mention that the ceiling can't be repaired until the leaks in the kitchen - which I'm now told are not covered - are repaired. I've made up my mind. I'm moving on to another company. I've given AHS more than enough time to get their act together. They sent a repairman out 3 times within 6 months to repair my freezer and spending over $1300 for parts on the 3rd attempt to repair only to end up replacing. If they had replaced the refrigerator on the 2nd attempt as requested, they would have saved a lot of money. I'm done. Wish that I could rate them in the negative. Their service has steadily deteriorated over the years with no upside in sight.

We had a repeat company called Alex Pool Service come out several times and every time they did, the problem that they came out to fix that I and American Home Shield would be charged for seemed to be a band-aid. The tech came out one time and there was one of the pumps making noise and having issues. I happened to be home, and he looked and said, “Yes, it’s the capacitor,” which I agreed with. Then he said, “I think I have one in my truck.” So he went out to his truck and I happened to be standing there, and he went inside the house and switched the capacitors saying, “The capacitor zipped, I put the capacitor in and it’s working.”

It did work, but I was very skeptical so when he left, I unscrewed the lead. One screw was missing but I found it on the ground and I got the other one. The capacitor he put in was an old one, and that isn’t the way to do things. He pulled it off of a motor that was in his truck that he must replace. I mentioned it to him when he came out the next time for a pool pump that I switched the capacitors. He said, “You shouldn’t be doing that or telling me because it’ll void your warranty.” Needless to say, I’m sure he charged American Home Shield and me for it and the next time he came out, he fixed the problem on the other pump but again it’s like a patch. It seemed like he kept doing the same stuff over and over again, never getting the claim resolved.

I came back from a trip and again, the pool pump was making noise and the bearings were grinding. It would run for maybe two or three hours then it would stop. I called American Home Shield and they sent Alex Pool Service out. The tech came out and said it wasn’t the pump, it was my plumbers unit, which I didn't agree with. He showed me the water pump and said, “It pumps now but the pump is grinding and makes a noise.” I said, “I guarantee that if I leave this on for two or three hours, that pump is going to stop like it has been.” So I went upstairs, he said he fixed it, I came down and I didn’t hear anything. Sure enough, after three hours the pump stopped. It wasn’t running so I went out of town and told my wife to keep an eye on it which she did.

It was funny because twice when he was out, he mentioned my plumbers unit. There’s a plastic thing that goes to the wall and he was messing around with it. Both times after he left, that fitting was broken which I didn’t appreciate. The first time that it was broken, I thought maybe I hit it when I was sweeping the pool. The second time I had just been out there checking the unit and adjusting the pressure because I thought maybe the pressure on this plastic valve should be open. It was open all the way and it was not getting enough pressure. When the tech left, that thing was broken and I had to go and buy myself a new fixture.

I was a little upset with the tech so I called American Home Shield again. I got a text saying Alex Pool Service would be out, and about 30 minutes after that another text came from American Home Shield saying Paddock would be out. The tech from Paddock came out, he looked at the pump and the motor and said, “Obviously this pump is bad. It does grind and then it stops”. He had another guy with him and the other guy fixed the pump.

The bottom line is that looking at the history of how many times Alex Pool Service came out, they seemed to be fixing the same problem of patching it over and over and not with new parts, with old parts and used parts for the pumps and motors. Maybe the guy thought he was doing the right thing by using old parts or just making it work until he gets the next service call. I liked him and he seemed to be good, but I don’t know if that’s American Home Shield's policy or not. The guy that came out from Paddock said the same thing and figured it out quick. Overall I like American Home Shield because I could travel and if something happened to the AC unit, my wife can call up and AHS will send somebody out and fix it.

I went out to my garage and almost dumped my things in the water coming out on the floor. It was coming from one of the wall on the inside of the house. AHS gave me a phone number for a plumber which I called and got nothing. I called AHS back and said “Hey, he hasn’t answered. What’s going on here?” Then, I did not hear anything else back from them. I then called the third time, and then they said to try calling them again. I said I didn't want them because they were not answering. And every time I talked to them, they sounded like they didn’t care.

After the third call, they got another plumber in the area to come out who came the very next day and was really outstanding. I was perturbed because I said that it was leaking into one of the bedrooms, so he went in there and had some type of tool that determines whether it's water or not. Then he said that my carpet was wet in one of the bedrooms and that the padding and everything else had to be taken out so I wasn’t happy about that. He opened up the wall and was determined to find the leak. Eventually, he found out that one of the PVC pipes had a crack in it. He went outside, shut off the water and pulled off the piece. Then he created another piece, fixed it up, and cleaned up everything from where he had to cut a hole in the wall into the drywall up in the garage. Since then, everything's great with the plumbing issue, but now I have to replace the carpet in the bedroom.

I had claims for my oven, my cooktop, and my refrigerator and I did it by phone but I had a problem getting through. It was during the time of the hurricane and they were having some problems down that way where it hit. They didn't have enough people on the telephone and that was a nightmare. In fact, several days later, I held for an hour and they still didn't come to the phone.

When I did talk to somebody, most of them were nice and they did the best that they could under the circumstances. But we miscommunicated one time when I was trying to make sure that I have the right size and the rep told me that the size she had didn't seem like it would fit. I told her to cancel that until we could work it out and this was after several days that I had called and my wait time would be an hour or two hours. To put somebody on a hold for two hours several times when the refrigerator and stove are not working, that's testing your patience and sometimes, I would hang up after an hour. The reps also had to put me on hold quite a bit so they could check into stuff but the outcome was good. Greenway came out, installed everything and fixed my refrigerator. All of the contractors were nice, professional and super good but I was especially pleased with the young man who worked on installing my oven.

Towards the end, it worked out good, thanks to Greenway. But they really need to revamp the telephone and if American Home Shield doesn't do something about this, they're going to lose a lot of customers. I was without a stove and I waited almost two months before I finally got everything done. Sometimes it looked like I was being completely ignored and I got very frustrated.

In fact, I called Better Business Bureau to see what kind of rating they all had. I had really given up on American Home Shield and it probably would've been reported but my experience with Greenway was so good and I was hoping it was a one-time thing. I had been with American Home Shield for 20 years before they cut me out for non-payment and that was because at one point, the arrangement was on automatic withdrawal from my checking account and somebody put it in wrong. I called back a year ago and got back but over the years, I've invested so much money in American Home Shield and they should be obligated if something were to go wrong.

He realized I had a new garbage disposal, so he tested a couple of things and he said that it was the knockout plug. It was a two-minute job and it was done. However, their online survey has nowhere to hit 'submit'. I had to submit a separate email because I could not put that in the survey. I've complained about that twice now with the two things that I've done and they've not fixed it. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the service and I've always recommended them.

The microwave started smelling like it was burning and then it wouldn't start up. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and the representative was very nice and helpful. She said that whoever they contract with would call me and they did the very next day. The contractor was great. He came in and looked at it. He thought it was one thing and went out to his truck but he didn't have that part. It had to be ordered so he told us it would be back in five days. I waited for them to call me but they didn't. I had to call them, although the lady said that she was about to call me when I did. The microwave had been fixed before so instead of paying, I asked about a new one and he said no but they came out and fixed it.

American Home Shield should give us at least two choices on the contractors. They just send somebody out but I've had other things in my house fixed that I wasn't happy with. But that's the person that they sent out and I didn't have a choice. Plus, most of the time, you've got to wait three days until somebody is able to get to you but I've had things go wrong in my home that Home Shield would cover but I needed the contractors immediately. If the contractor is busy, what do you do? Those are the people they're contracting with and you don't have a choice to go to anyone else. Their fee has also gone up to $75 which is a bit ridiculous. I'm already paying $55 a month and then, on top of that, when someone comes out, I still got to pay them the $75. That aside, whatever we've needed fix, we've been able to get it done.

So far, it has been great with AHS. They can cut the price in half though, but it's nice to have them. Our most recent claim was a plumbing issue. The flush mechanism on both toilets failed so I had to get them replaced. At first, I submitted that claim online, but the lady had some questions. She called back and we had to give her some more information. Sometimes, the rep and I talk back and forth when we forgot to ask something, but it happens and it's no big deal. Customer service was very good. The contractor that came knew what the problem was, he knew what the fix was, and he got it done. I don’t think he spent a total of 20 minutes in the house.

We’ve been with them since 2004 and submitted dozens of claims. We file claims over the phone and have a great dealing with their reps. Their technicians were all good but I’ve had two experiences that have not been so well. The first one was for the swimming pool heaters. Before I bought the house, it was inspected and AHS issued the warranty. Then three years later, when the pool heater stopped working, I called and asked them to come out and look at it. They said that something about it had been improperly installed so they were not going to recognize the claim. I contended that it was inspected before and there were no issues with it. They had come out a couple of times for different things then fixed them and yet, they declined to fix this one.

And then, just recently, I had a timer box that went out in the swimming pool and it turns the pool and the pool cleaning on and off. They said that they no longer made that style so they weren’t going to honor it. My contention was, “Yeah, the pool was built in 2001 and I’m making a claim in 2017. It’s like a car. You don’t have the same model. It’s an outdated version and you need to convert it.” They said they wouldn’t do it and I had to pay out of pocket to have a very basic switch installed. I was upset about those claims and I still am. Other than that, I’m impressed with the product all throughout, their technicians and their timeliness.

I chose them because of their record and I have no plans at this time to change unless some significant event occurs that I either get upset or offered a better deal. I told one of the guys I worked with who just bought a house that he needs to get a home warranty because as soon as something goes out, it’s going to be expensive and he doesn’t have the discretionary money to cover all that. I’ve been satisfied with AHS and suggested it to him.

However, when I called back the contractor, they asked me if they can come on Saturday, and it was great. The technician they sent out was so truthful. He replaced the fan motor. But then, the AC wasn't cooling.

When I called back to make an appointment, he came back and told me that he had to come back and didn't charge me for it. He then found out that my refrigerant gauge which checked the pressure wasn't working. I had to pay for the refrigerant, which was fair. My customer service experience was also really positive. The rep that I talked to calmed my fears and reassured me that they'd have someone come back out. It was great that American Home Shield covered me and took care of it. They say they will call back with answers and no one ever does. It takes 5 min to pay and get the service they ate fast about that but when you need actual service it is damn near impossible to talk to someone, it's like they want it to be such a pain in the ass to get help. You don't even call. You just quit and they get out of having to pay or fix the items you need repaired. They have sent 2 different companies out to my house and I have paid twice the tech fee of 125 dollars and my system is still broken. It has been a week since last tech went to house and I still have heard of nothing. They say they got a state of the art online deal to request repairs or check status of service and it is **, does not help you out at all.

Since last week I have tried calling several times and have been on hold every time so long I end up hanging up because I have other things to do. This is a screenshot of the last time I was on the phone with them and I still didn't get to talk to anyone. But if you try to purchase devices from them when you press the number to purchase new services someone is on the other line seems like within a minute. They are quick to sell services but when you need the services it's almost like no one exists to contact.

We had no choice in choosing a home warranty. Home Shield was purchased by the seller of our home during escrow. September 2017, I called to have three appliances fixed, which came with the sale of our new home. We were on the fence to spend the $75 or not to have them fixed. We knew we were going to remodel in January. However, we also had company coming for three weeks in November. Our dishwasher is not working well so we decided to call and have it repaired along with two other appliances.

A AND G appliances, are sent out to do the repair, by HS. They arrive on Oct 4th. They are in my home approximately 30 minutes to look at three appliances. I am told my dishwasher is fixed and they need to order parts for the other two. I realized immediately, the problem is not fixed with the dishwasher was. I called A And G approximately 5 minutes after they leave. I am told, "Ok we will let the technician know when he comes in later today."

Three weeks later I get a call that the parts are on back order. (End of October just before our company arrives) Two week into November, I call A And G to find out what is up. I am told everything is still on back order. I wait another week then call HS. (I am on hold for approximately an hour.) The rep calls A And G while I am on hold with her. She finds out the parts will be in this Friday. (The Friday within the week I am calling. A week before Thanksgiving.)

Thanksgiving and our company came and went and it is now December. I call HS on December 5th, I am on hold for 1 hour and 45 minutes. A rep from Atlanta picks up. I explain my issue and tell her my story. At this point we have already purchased new appliances for our remodel in January, I have still not heard from A and G, and we do not need to repairs anymore. I am used to handwashing my dishes at this point. So I tell her I would like my $75 that I paid for A and G to FIX my appliances, which has not been done. She tells me "that does NOT happen in any circumstance." I get a bit upset at this point. I have been totally inconvenienced and not serviced.

So she tells me, "I will ask the department that handles this, tomorrow when they reopen, and call you back tomorrow with their answer." She never called me the next day or any day. It is now December 11, 2017, 10 weeks, at least, from the date of my original call. I am on hold again, at this point it has been 48 minutes and no answer. I never got a call back from HS or A And G, and everything is still broken. Do not use this company! They are not professional, you will sit on hold for 1 to 2 hours every time you call, they do not follow up, need I go on. They are the Worst! We will not be renewing our warranty with them in August.

AHS is a complete SCAM. I became a customer in October and shortly after needed assistance on 10/23. I reached out to AHS to schedule someone to look at my oven. After multiple scheduling blunders and no shows, I finally had someone out on 10/30 to look at the oven. The tech said it was a super easy fix and that all the oven needed was a new hinge. They said it was covered and that they would order the part, with a lead time of 7-10 business days.

After not hearing back for 3+ weeks from AHS or the local outfit they outsourced the work to, I called the local company. They told me that the part had to be ordered with AHS and that it was arriving the next day, GREAT! After a few more days without contact, I called AHS and waited on hold for 95 minutes before being forced to hang up because I had to tend to a newborn child. Finally, I got in touch with AHS after waiting over an hour again on a subsequent call.

I explained to AHS that at this point, it had been over a month since I opened a service request for a simple hinge to be replaced (if I could get the part, I could install it myself). They went on to tell me that it wasn't AHS's fault and that I SHOULD HAVE READ THE FINE PRINT in the agreement before accepting the terms and conditions. When I asked to speak with a manager, politely, I was denied. She told me that there's no one to talk to that will change anything. After over 45 minutes on the phone with someone who could not care less, I accomplished NOTHING.

Here I am on December 11th with a 6+ week issue that isn't resolved. I called the local company again this morning and NOW THEY TELL ME THERE WAS NEVER AN ORDER IN AHS' system. They said AHS apologized and said it must have been a new person who was working that day and that they failed to place the order. It would be at best another 2 weeks before the part comes in to stock!!! I signed up for a service that I have yet to receive. Now, I've paid three monthly payments and have received ZERO SERVICE, ZERO EMPATHY AND ZERO APOLOGIES.

This service should only be purchased by people who simply cannot afford to take on the cost of replacing an expensive appliance, at which point you should still consider that there are low limits on what they'll cover for existing appliances. You'd be better served not having this service and taking out a loan to replace an appliance if you cannot afford the cost of replacing something. I am an extremely logical person and have exercised patience at multiple points in this process, only to be treated like crap. Complete SCAM, BUYER BEWARE.

When my heater was not working, I requested for service online with American Home Shield and they were very prompt. I got an email back stating the company that's going to be coming out. I was impressed. The contractor was awesome. He called me and made sure that I knew everything that was going on because I was at work. He also let me know that he had to order a part, which was going to take about two days, but he called me later that day and said that he found the part, which means that he was looking for it. And he came out the next day to fix it. He was very professional and knowledgeable and he got the job done, and I definitely would use him again.

The heater is working well since the repair. We experienced really warm temperatures a few days later, and when I tried to turn the AC on, it won't come on. So, I reached back out to the contractor who came out to fix the issue with my heater before I put in another claim with AHS. I called him and when he answered the phone, he remembered who I was after I gave him a few pointers on how our home looked. I told him that the AC was no longer coming on and he said he'd come back and he did the next day after I talked to him. I liked that he was accountable. He apologized and told me that in the midst of him trying to take the broken piece out for my heater, it maybe had hit a switch for the AC. In some kind of way, he said that I have a newer kind of furnace and the heater piece that was broken was connected to my AC unit. But now my AC is working.

I just hope American Home Shield doesn't keep going up on the prices. They went up twice since I've had it, and I still want it to be affordable so that whoever I refer to the program, they can at least afford it. But I love American Home Shield. It's a great service, and every homeowner should have some form of a shield on the things that are in their home. It can save thousands of dollars and they just pay a service fee, and the company will come out and fix the issue as long as they make a call and let them know what's going on. I also would recommend homeowners to make sure they keep the manufacturer instructions of their appliances in a box or in a folder somewhere. So, if it ever goes out, they have all the information right then and there, to let American Home Shield know exactly what kind of appliance they had. From my experience, we had to pull everything down and look at serial numbers because I totally didn't have anything.

I do claims on the phone 'cause I want to talk to someone in person so I can explain what's going on so that they would know what to be looking for when they show up. If I tried to do it online, I could give them a synopsis but I wouldn’t be sure that they would understand what I was trying to get at. It usually takes a while to get to them but when I do, they're fairly helpful. The girl whom I talked to was really nice and helpful. She gave me the direction as to where I should go with my claim.

I called American Home Shield up recently and told them my washer wasn’t working. They arranged to have Golden Appliance come out and look at it. The guy who came out said that the washer needed to be repaired but he didn’t think that it was repairable. He said that he was going to recommend replacement. He told me to call them and American Home Shield said that they agreed my washer needs to be replaced. I’ve had American Home Shield for 12 years and they’d never replaced anything that I’ve ever called up about. This was really shocking that I could actually do that.

American Home Shield sent me an email with the appliance that they recommended to replace my washer with and they work with three companies, Sears, Whirlpool and GE. I looked at their recommendation but the piece they chose was 37 inches and mine's only 27 inches so there was no way it was going to fit in there, especially with my dryer there. Then they told me that I could go out to Best Buy or Sears and find a replacement. So I went to Sears and Best Buy to look at washers. There was one at Best Buy that’s reasonable and the one at Sears was more expensive so I didn’t know whether they would give it to me or not.

On their website that they sent me, it said that if I decide not to choose one of the items that they go with, the Sears, the GE or the Whirlpool, then they would give me $600 off on whatever I chose. I didn't get a clarification from them though and this was what I assumed but I figured, first, I had to get the order done. So, I ordered the washer and I ordered a dryer too ‘cause I wanted them to be equal. I knew they’re only going to pay for the washer but the one I had picked out was $599 so that would make it even. I had it installed today and although I haven’t called AHS back yet to find out what goes on from there on out, I am imagining that they’re going to send me a check for $600.

It took a good solid week to get somebody down here to work on it. We had to go to the clean washer for a while and that was the bad side. The good side was that we had good response on everybody else that we've had problems with, mostly with the air conditioning, heat pump related and dishwasher stuff.

Recently, I have two heat pump systems for the house and my upstairs heat pump is not working so I called American Home Shield but the company that they were going to contract with us had not responded within the 24 hours that they're supposed to respond. So, I called them and left a message on their voicemail saying, “Hey, what's going on?” But the contractors that have shown up have all been very professional. Our house has got some age to it, therefore, I am continuing to contract with them because we keep having things go wrong. But if it was a newer home, I'd probably have them just for the first year and then let it go from there.

We moved to a new home and had a leak in our water heater. I submitted a claim over the phone with American Home Shield and their process was fair. But we had to wait 5 days for the first contractor to come out and when he did, he was not professional and he did not tell the truth. He went upstairs in the attic with his iPad, came back down, then told us that he'd call American Home Shield and get back with us. Then AHS called us and said that they couldn't cover the repair because the problem was with our roof. But the guy never told us that that was the problem. Plus, there was nothing from the roof that would cause the water heater to be damaged within the inside.

So my husband was really upset that AHS' rep just took the first tech's word for it. Then the same lady sent all these letters out and asked us if we wanted them to give us $300 on getting a new heater. That has never happened to us and it made us think it was something underhand. My husband said no to her offer and told her to just give us some ideas on how to get a second opinion. That's when everything got better.

Another young lady called, got our information on how we felt the service was, and told us that they could replace the water heater but we’ll be responsible for our piping. We were okay with that. The communication with her was very consistent but it was not with their other people. Then the second contractor came out and he was so professional. He went upstairs, looked at everything, came back down, and told us exactly what he saw. He said the leak was caused by the wear and tear of the inside of our old water heater. Then he called his company, his company called AHS, and everything was settled right there on the phone. And the very next day, they brought the new appliance in. So our claim was handled very well. But we told AHS that we don’t want the first guy back at our house again.

It was an excellent experience with American Home Shield. There was no hassle, no problems. I was having a water leak coming out of my furnace. The claims rep took care of it and understood what I needed and they cut me a contract. They got me in touch with a contractor who gradually fixed the problem. And the contractor got there within two days, which was an appropriate amount of time.

My wife filed the claim to American Home Shield by phone. The contractor said that he could not help us since we were missing some device. I don't know why it wasn't covered. For us, if the pool is not working, it's not working. There's no way for me to check the system to see if it has 100% of the components. However, working with the AHS folks were good. They were responsive and on top of the situation. It’s just that the outcome did not come out as what we expected.

I filed a claim to American Home Shield for a garbage disposal that went bad and it was replaced. The difficult part of my experience was calling them on the phone. I was waiting online for about 75 minutes just to speak to someone there, which I thought was a very bad business. Once I finally got someone, it was fine. They sent someone over from a local plumbing company and they fixed it, which took about half an hour. AHS reps seem to understand what I needed and were able to respond to my request very quickly. The contractor was very professional, very helpful and did the work very quickly. My garbage disposal is working very well now. I'd tell a friend that getting a home warranty was worth it if they were living in a house that has a lot of older appliances in it.

My stove broke and so I had to file a claim with American Home Shield. The contractor kept on rescheduling it and canceling it and rescheduling it. It went way past my original due date on my contract but because the ticket was already opened previously, we were able to extend it. But it took two months and five reschedules for us to get them out there. It was just one burner and the guy looked at it in 15 minutes and then said he had to order a part and had it sent to my house via UPS. He was awesome and was real efficient once he was there. And everything's working now.

The only other thing that we were having issues with is our AC. But every time we got somebody out there to go look at it, they said everything was fine. But we got to do master resets on the AC because it freezes on us. And so we'd like to actually figure out our AC problem. The guy, he came out and told us that by summer, we're going to a whole new unit. That's going to cost us thousands of dollars. But because it wasn't acting up when he came out, the two times that I paid the $75 for the AC, it was just wasted trip, wasted money.

I was having a problem with my oil heater, and I put in a claim with American Home Shield and then someone came out. The contractor said it was my thermostat and there wasn’t any water in the heater, so they came out and they put the water in the heater and they rewired the thermostat, and the heater was working fine. But then that night, the heater stopped working and my basement was full of water the next morning. I called American Home Shield back to let them know and they told me they were going to send the same people to come out and check it again. They did come out after the holiday and looked at the heater, and they said that my boiler went bad because they tried to fill it up and the water leaked out again. They told me they would have to go to American Home Shield, put the claim in, and they would let me know from there.

I waited a week and I heard nothing, so I called American Home Shield to find out what was going on because I have no heat. They finally told me that they would pay $1500 and we had to pay $3500. They told me that it was what's covered under my contract. But I never received the contract because I signed up online, so I didn’t know this. The rep said I could get a payout and he transferred me to a claims adjuster. I waited on the phone for half an hour only to find out from this lady that the person I was speaking to earlier could have told this information and put the form in for me. Nevertheless, she was more helpful than the guy I spoke to the first time. She said that if I had my contract, I could have read Section “I” and it would have told me that since I have a boiler system, the contract only covers $1500 dollars. If I would have had a gas heater, it would have been covered. They could have told me this before.

She put the claim in for the payout and told me that the reps were working on Wednesday calls and they should call me back on Tuesday. She told me that American Home Shield will send me a check once I prove that the work is done. So, I have to pay out of pocket first and get someone else to do the work. But no one has called me yet and I still have no heat. This has been going on before Thanksgiving and when you call the corporate number, it just rings and then it hangs up. I’m very dissatisfied with American Home Shield.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a little more than a year and have filed two or three claims. I do them over the phone and the representatives in calls are good. It’s the matter of getting to them that is ridiculous. I often had to wait 30 minutes to even more than an hour. As for the technicians, we had one issue that I reported and they sent a different company out to take care of the problem that I was having. The plumber that came out said he didn’t know how to fix the problem and that he will send out a more experienced plumber. We waited two or three weeks and nobody called or came out. And when I called the plumbing service, they were like, “Oh, that got closed.” And I was like, “Well, how did you close it if it’s not done?” Then they said, “We didn’t know it wasn’t done.”

I then called American Home Shield and again had to wait an hour for them to answer the phone, and they said, “We’re going to send another company out.” There is also a toilet issue in my house now and the plumber’s supposed to come out today. American Home Shield takes care of things quickly. I just don’t like waiting on the phone forever to get to them.

Sometimes American Home Shield keeps things pretty close. When I first moved into this house, there was an issue with a pressure reduction valve that is located between the house and water meter outside. The policy states that the pressure reduction valve is covered, but they attempted to say that it would not be since it was outside the boundaries of the foundation. They finally agreed to pay for part of it rather than getting a long-protracted discussion.

I recently submitted a claim online for the air conditioning that was not working. The contractor that was sent knew what he was doing and he corrected the problem. American Home Shield's website was very easy to use. Overall, AHS is a good deal especially if you have an older home where major components are more likely to break down. In a brand-new home, the warranty would probably be of lesser value.

I like American Home Shield and I have been with them for five years. Recently, I had a claim for my air conditioning central unit. Every year, it would have to be recharged because every spring, it wouldn’t work when I turn it on. But I know the technician changes out some parts along the way and fills it with Freon every year. Then this summertime, that thing died on me. It isn't cooling the house down so I called them back in. The technician said the air conditioning unit was shut. That's how it panned out.

While their representatives were very accommodating and straightforward, I didn’t like that they upped my payment to $108 and it automatically went to my credit card. I don’t like using credit cards because if you don't pay it off, you have a balance. I would rather give cash. Other than that, they usually get someone out to me right away and everything’s been really good.

I also had a lot of problems with my washing machine and I was not crazy about the company called Limelight that AHS used to send out. They looked like hippie guys and every time they fix something, they’re going to have to come back. But the second company that AHS contracted started sending out someone who was so much better. As a matter of fact, if I had something go wrong, I would probably request that they send me over to them. But sometimes, I feel that American Home Shield would just keep fixing things and in the end, it might cost them more money. I still think that my washing machine is going to go and at this point, they should have replaced it with a new one.

Overall, having a warranty is a good thing, especially for the first few years. If it's not a new home, you don't know what maintenance other people put into it. I would also recommend American Home Shield because they have a good product. But they should look at their incentive program as they might be missing the boat. Our realtor said that they don't push the home warranty very much because they don't get a commission here in New York. But in other parts of the country, they do.

My heating system died out and I couldn’t get it to come back on. I contacted American Home Shield via phone and told them that I didn’t have any heat. I was on hold for a little bit longer than I would have liked, but it was not excessive and the representative I spoke with was very efficient. I called them at midday and the rep told me someone would be here by nine to ten o’clock the next morning. I was told what company would be coming and they called and confirmed it the next day.

We live in New England and we could be a popsicle in 24 hours if we didn’t have heat. Harris Heating and Air-conditioning sent a very knowledgeable service person. He was polite, dressed well and clean. He introduced himself and I felt very comfortable with him. He said nothing was wrong with the heating system but the problem was with the thermostat. He had one with him so he replaced it and all has been well since then. He could have said we had to have a full replacement but he went right to the problem immediately and told us it was only the thermostat. Then he even showed me how to deal with the thermostat. He also told me that the thermostat that we had was smaller than what they have, so when he replaced it, it left an area where I can see my old paint, and I was amazed that he was concerned about it and it was very polite of him to mention it.

We had American Home Shield 20 years ago for eight years, and then we let it lapse and recently we just decided that with our age, we really needed to have the security of it, and it came in very handy. I checked their ratings as well and they were decent, and when I called them, there was no pressure and they were just giving us some information, which was very nice. They’re very efficient and they explained what the copays were and everything when we signed up. They asked what we wanted to be covered so that we had choices.

I have recommended AHS to a couple of people already. We sold a second house and we recommended the people who bought the house that they get AHS, and I offered it as part of the closing to purchase it for them. The older you get in life or the busier you are, the less you want to start dealing with finding a specific person and then not knowing who’s coming. It makes more sense to cover yourself. People should stop looking for somebody. When you call AHS no matter what your problem is as long as it’s covered, they'll find a supplier for you. And I’m assuming that AHS has arrangements with people and that they’ve been checked out. And you pay a certain amount upfront for your membership, but then during the course of the year, you could save a considerable amount. They're not the cheapest but they're not hideously expensive when you think of the peace of mind. I’m definitely keeping it.

I had giant leak and I was running water through a tank in my garage out my driveway for four days, and I couldn't stop it. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and their contractor seemed to fix everything. They were cool guys. The Triad guys, Mike and his assistant, were good and really easy to communicate with. It was Saturday when I texted them and sent in the ticket. I also sent them pictures. They immediately texted me on my phone and told me they'll have a tech come out the same day. It was resolved a lot faster than I thought it would be. So when they told me I got to pay $500 to have my other stuff updated to code, I said, "Okay, fine, whatever".

The rest has been a decent experience, if not great, and to the point where I'm going to keep my warranty on the help. AHS should thank Triad Repair for being stellar and making the whole process. A warranty company can only go as fast as their repairmen, and Triad definitely complemented the whole system. Everything’s working perfect now. But I wish my code stuff was covered under the default plan with AHS. I was a little shorted and when I re-upped my plan, it wasn't something that they told me. I have a 15 year old house and they would have said something like, "If we have to come replace stuff, 95% of the time we're going to have some code upgrades. It's just state law and federal law". That really needs to be communicated a lot better. American Home Shield as a whole is very useful. But if they could add code support, I’d pay an extra $ 5 or $6 a month for it. Some of it was covered, like $100, and it was still $500.

I’m not thrilled with American Home Shield. I’ve had five claims recently on a leased house and I’m having difficulty knowing exactly when and if things are getting done. On one of the claims, it had to do with the range and there were two items in the home. For some reason, there was a delay with one of the parts for gaining approval, and that was an issue that I’m not sure I understood why and never did. I’m not even sure it got fixed at the end of the day ‘cause I haven’t talked to the people that are in the home. When it was happening, I was calling and asking what’s the deal or why this isn’t getting fixed, and the AHS reps said they didn’t know. They’re waiting on something and I don’t know what it was. They ought to find out why there was a delay with the tech that was out there. There was another claim that I sent in yesterday regarding the electric panel on the pool and I don’t know if it’s getting taken care of or not.

American Home Shield also shouldn't cheap out on fixes. There was a fix a year ago where I went ahead and paid another $2,000 to replace a compressor that they were going to do a half-ass fix on. But other than that, they get right out on some of the other stuff, like the air conditioner a month ago. When it comes to the basic stuff, it’s fine. The hard stuff is dissatisfying.

I've dealt with American Home Shields three times. The problem with dealing with them is that they don't respond quickly and you have to sit on hold for sometimes over an hour. And I wasn't particularly pleased about that. Our most recent claim with AHS was fine though. I had a problem with my heater in the house and because AHS had dealt with me before, I made sure that I could find a way to be expedited. However, I could not get to AHS because you sit on hold for an hour and their hold music goes on and off. So, I went back to the vendor that serviced me before and I asked them to reach out to AHS to start my claim process because they have the direct dial number which is something I don't have. And so, AHS expedited my claim. Their contractor came out and fixed my heater. It only took about 16 hours for them to get it taken care of and I was happy.

The vendor did a good job. The unit is working fine however, AHS just need to improve their intake process so that you don't sit on hold for an hour. I don't know if they need to hire more personnel. I know everybody is going strictly to online stuff but I'm an older gentleman and I'm not as adept at going through those processes as some people are. Therefore, they need improvement in their customer service department.

We've been with American Home Shield for five or six years and they've always been very good to deal with and we're very pleased with their services. But over the last year and a half, it's gone to crap. One example was when my water heater went out and it was covered by the warranty. They installed the one that was in there and they came this time and they rejected service on it because it was installed improperly and they did a similar thing with our cool heater. It went out earlier this year except they had repaired it two to three times in the past and they never said anything about the way it was installed. They just said, "Well, this isn't installed properly. We don't cover it."

In fact, they wouldn't fix microwave's handlebar because they said it was out of date, and it is not out of date. It is still the same unit. It's a GE. They have rejected each and every claim that we filed over the last 18 months. And before that, we weren't trying to get things we weren't entitled to. In fact, several years ago, they did some work on our air conditioner and they covered the repair. But they told me I had to install an additional fresh air unit and that that wouldn't be covered. So, that's an example that they took care of the problem and I agreed with them that the other part wasn't covered by warranty so I paid for that. They just become very difficult to deal with and really look for any possible way to avoid coverage.

They conscientiously try to avoid paying the claim. We never had that problem before but we're mad enough with them now that we'll not renew our policies going forward. Also, the quality of the service personnel that they send out is much lower than it used to be. Normally they would send out brand service people that we know in the neighborhood like when they work on the air conditioner, they sent out King with Air which is the largest air service company in the area. Up until recently, we recommended them to a lot of people because we thought they were really a first class company. But they've gotten very profit-oriented and don't really give a who about their customers.

I've been very satisfied in the past with American Home Shield. I'm also completely happy with Greenway, the company that's always sent out by American Home Shield to service us. But I, for a couple of months now, have been dealing with a washing machine issue. Greenway came out and ordered what they thought the part was. It took about few weeks to come in. They put it in but that really didn't work. So, they sent someone out again to look at it. They ordered another part. Greenway Home Services can't find it. They sent a request to American Home Shield to find it and I've been without a washing machine for nine weeks now.

I called American Home Shield last Thursday and talked to someone. I finally got through and they said they'd call me right back. I've gotten zero phone calls. I've got a washing machine that doesn't work and nobody is following up with me. I don't want to wait for an hour on the line with American Home Shield when I'm trying to call. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend American Home Shield. They've always been reliable for as long as we've used them, except for this past nine weeks. They've been very accommodating and everything's been great. The contractors came in a timely manner when we've had issues.

The plumbing company was great but something's wrong with my toilet, it keeps running. They've replaced everything in the toilet but I don't think it's their fault because when they leave, it's fixed. I don't know what's going on and it might not be leaking. I just need to test it. I haven't checked what's covering in it to see if it was leaking because it's not seeable, but you see it run and it's going somewhere. It's our fault for not calling AHS again. It's just frustrating because we always have to work it around our work schedule.

Our dishwasher was acting up and leaves particles all over the dishes. When I put the soap in it, it doesn’t wash the soap out of the tub. Before I can wash again, I gotta stop and I’ve got to scrape out all the old soap. This guy from Pinnacle appliance came out and said he couldn’t find anything wrong. He said he needed to confer with some people. He put some more dishes in there and said to let him know if it’s still doing the same thing. It did, so I called him back and I even sent him pictures. We had an appointment for him to come. He said he was just gonna completely rebuild it, put in a new motor and pump. He said that that was probably the problem.

They sent a text message to my wife saying they will be here between 9:30 and 1:00. We tried to call the number and we got a message that said, “Oh, we’re closed thanksgiving weekend.” But we have not heard anything from anybody. Nobody’s called up to say that that they’re on their way. No one has called up to say they were sorry and the reason why they can’t make it. So I'm not happy right now.

The deal with American Home Shield is that when I call and I got a problem, their instructions to the people that come out are, “Get it working. As long as it’s working when you walk out the door.” Like with my air conditioner. They had to replace the inside unit a few years ago because it had a Freon leak. I’m no HVAC person but even I know that the inside unit and the outside unit should be kept as a matched set. They replaced the inside but they didn’t do the outside. As a result of them doing that, every time my air conditioner comes on and it’s more than one degree, it goes into emergency heat mode. It doesn’t operate like a heat pump. It operates like a forced air heater.

Then the outside unit stopped working. The guy comes out, looks at it, and he says, “This needs to be replaced but I can’t replace it because Home Shield won’t let me do it." He said the problem was the starter-capacitor, and he needs to wire around it to make it work. But he said his company will lose the contract with Home Shield if he told them that it can’t be fixed and they found out that it can be fixed by wiring around it. So he goes in and jury rigs it. Later on, the thing goes out again. Same story. Still another jury rig. This outside unit has been jury rigged three times so it keeps running. But it comes on and turns off, and that’s not right. And it was the same thing with my dryer. They made the contractor go in there and it took them two weeks to find the part so it would turn back on.

When my pressurized high flow toilet was broken, American Home Shield had the contractor put a regular flush in there instead of the power flush that they were replacing and they didn’t want to even put a new seat on the toilet. They said it was not in our contract. But they were taking a toilet out that’s got a seat on it. And you want to take that out the door with the seat. You don’t want to put that seat on this and you don’t want to put a new one on it. That doesn’t make any sense. American Home Shield didn’t replace the item that I had with a properly matched unit. Then they didn’t want to even leave me a usable unit.

When you call American Home Shield and complain, after you’ve been on hold from one to three hours, all they do is read from the script. There's no supervisor around. Or if there is one around, you’re gonna wait for another hour to two hours on hold for them to call you back. Only for them to give you the same company line. American Home Shield collects a lot of money from you but they want to do the absolute minimum that they can do when it comes to answering a service request. I do not recommend them.

I heard about American Home Shield through some friends and all my experiences with AHS have been good. When the injector pump went out, I submitted a claim online and American Home Shield sent me a text with the information on who the plumber would be. The plumber was supposed to call me back but I just called the plumber right then and scheduled it. The plumber that we had was excellent and we couldn't ask for a better person. The contractor for the dishwasher was excellent as well.

However, I wasn't excited about the gentleman who came out and fixed the dryer. And the air conditioning has been a hit or miss. It kept on running low and finally blew up the compressor which was almost 15 years old. The model I had was like my car. If a certain part goes out, I have to replace one at a time and go on with it. But when the Freon got mixed up with it, everything became very expensive and it seemed to cause other problems. The wheels started to come off a bit which delayed me on having my air conditioner fixed. I wound up paying for two new outside units which was switched to newer Freon type.

I was shocked that my bill out on the summer was at least 35% cheaper. Other than replacing the air pressure coil on the inside, the contractor left the mortors on the inside of the house unit alone and just replaced the air conditioning piece of this system. It never felt better since the first day I moved in. It didn't cost that much to run in. I still like to have AHS in my back pocket. If something comes up, they're there for me and that means a lot. I'm happy with our relationship and I'd recommend them. As a matter of fact, after my mom moved over here to Georgia, I signed her approval for her house as well.

The most recent claim was for my furnace. It was a big one. I had the technician come out and he looked at it and he told me it was dead and needed to be replaced and they came out. It did take us a little while to schedule just going back and forth with the contractor. The first time I got American Home Shield it seemed like the request didn’t get through and I did it a second time. They were able to explain to me how it went and that was fine. And I had to call them for a second house that I have Home Shield for as well just to cancel a claim that we had already figured out the problem before they came.

The contractors were pretty easy to work with. Sometimes it was hard to schedule because of the availability of answering the phone, but we eventually got the scheduling and it was fine. Now the furnace works really well. For the AC, the tech replaced the thermostat. He didn’t screw it into the wall, so it's really loose and that would be my only complaint. It's probably easy enough for me to do it but having a home warranty is really helpful. I recommended it to my brother. We have a bunch of rental homes and usually we just have my family fix problems, but it's nice to have the home warranty too and if major things go wrong.

The compressor didn’t want to turn over, so they put a hard start kit on, which is really just prolonging the inevitable. Working with American Home Shield has been a good experience. The sink in the master bathroom and the one in the kids’ bathroom both started dripping at the same time. Plus, the tub in the kids’ bathroom was slow to drain. They came in and fixed both of the sinks and the drain. They’re supposed to come out again today to fix the drain on the kids’ sink. It's draining slowly as well.

I called my claim in. We had a mix-up and they assigned two plumbing companies to do two different situations. I also called in for my kitchen garbage disposal that went out. They came out and fixed it, but it was a different company. The system thought that it was my kitchen sink that was messing up and they assigned that company to come do one of the sinks. Then they assigned another company to come do the other sink, however, we got that straightened out.

I’m usually here every time a contractor comes. However, for this one, I had to be at work because it was the day before Thanksgiving break. I’m a principal and couldn’t take off and be at home. My brother-in-law was at the house and he said they did well. I saw their work when I came back and they didn’t leave anything messed up. Everything was put back in place.

The last guy that went over there to do the electrical wiring was very professional.

The most recent claim was for a kitchen ceiling light. There was no power going through it and it was an old light. My mom would always hit the switch and my mom is an elderly lady and it wouldn't go on. So my sister tried doing it manually and pulled the string. And when she pulled the string it kind of broke and then so I just told my sister, "Don't even mess with it. She's got appliance insurance. Let me call American Home Shield and get it taken care of".

So the contractor that came over was very professional. He was very polite. He added a little bit of wire and then extended wire. But he was willing to put the brand-new ceiling fan and he was willing to go the extra mile but we didn't have it on us. So he just had the wiring setup for it. And he goes, "Dude, this is what you need to do," and I go, "Hey, you know what, thank you, I really appreciate it." He's a real good guy.

Their customer service is the best. I didn't have talk to their rep very long. It was just, "Tell me the issue." I told her what the issue was and she says, "Let me get you the right people. I believe you're going to let it be an electrical guy." I got a call within an hour from the contractor. Everything got taken care of. I've gone with them three times and it has always been a good experience every time. I recommend them to a friend.

When I file for a service call, which I usually do online, I have to wait for at least a day and sometimes a day and a half to hear back from whoever person they sent it off to. Then I have to wait another day before they will come out and look at it. And depending on how long it takes to get a part in, I still have to wait for 2-3 days before the contractor comes out.
